Gyeongju National Park, Sogeumgangsan District is a UNESCO site featuring numerous shrines, Buddha statues, pagodas, and temples from the Silla Dynasty. Namsan Mountain within the park offers a gentle slope for hiking and exploration of hidden treasures. The area is ideal for light walks in comfortable attire to enjoy cool breezes in summer and beautiful autumn foliage. Visitors can also explore Baengnyulsa Temple and Gulbulsa Temple with their many Buddhist statues.
Great place for hiking with some really nice views!

The Gyeongju National Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and culture lovers. Established in 1945, it houses an extensive collection of artifacts dating back to the Silla Dynasty, offering insight into the lives and traditions of the Silla people. Exhibits include intricately crafted pottery, Buddhist sculptures, ancient royal tombs, ceremonial weapons, and the Emillejong (National Treasure No. 29), also known as the Bongdeoksa Bell.
Free entry. It’s got to have the best cleaned glass displays in any museum. Almost ran into the glass towards the displays. Be sure to check out the building across the bridge to find out about how they keep the relics well.

This is a must visit in Gyeongju! The museum is fantastic. There's so much history, the installations are modern and sleek. entrance is free, there's a beautiful pond & cafe where you can chill.
Marcia L — Google review
An excellent museum to discover and deepen your knowledge of the Silla period. I recommend starting your stay in Gyeongju with this visit — it’s free and provides valuable context for exploring other sites, especially the tumuli. The museum also offers an app with additional explanations in English for selected artifacts. Lockers are available to store your belongings, and several bus lines stop nearby. The only drawback is that there aren’t many dining options in the immediate area, so it’s worth planning your meals accordingly.
Elisa L — Google review
It was so crowded. Luckly we were able to find a parking space. No tickets were available for the the crown exhibit. Ot was worth to visit.

Highly recommend. Excellent exhibions of the artefacts discovered through the ages put into historical context. They had a fab Buddha exhibition also. It's a nice walk from the Woljeonggyo Bridge to the museum and then on to the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. They also have a good coffee shop 🙂

Cheomseongdae Observatory is a cylindrical structure made of 362 stones, symbolizing the solar year. It is located in Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla kingdom in Korea. This city was once a bustling cultural and commercial hub with significant archaeological remains. The observatory is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is just one of many historical treasures found in Gyeongju, including Daereungwon Tomb Complex and Bulguksa Temple.

Cheomseongdae is the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia, and possibly even the world. It was constructed during the Silla period, during the reign of Queen Seondeok (r. 632–647 AD). Cheomseongdae was designated as the country's 31st national treasure on December 20, 1962.

The Daereungwon Tomb Complex, excavated in 1973, is an ancient burial site of an unknown king and holds over 11,000 artifacts. It is part of the UNESCO-listed Gyeongju Historic Areas and offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Silla era. The city itself is often referred to as a "museum without walls" due to its numerous historical and archaeological treasures, including the Cheomseongdae Observatory and Bulguksa Temple.
Beautiful! Come during spring. Bring your DSLR. It’s gorgeous. Will come back every morning while I’m in Korea. Come earlier since it’s cooler. gyeongju is more humid than Seoul during spring.

What you see is what you get and what you will see are some large, grassy mounds (one containing a small museum). Beautifully maintained, it’s worth an amble but, honestly, thirty minutes is more than enough. Telletubby fans might get more of a kick out of it.

We had a pleasant walk in the complex to visit the tombs and learn more interesting historical stories of Silla Kingdom and the Kings. Admission was free, the vibe was really nice even it was raining heavily when we were there.

Fabulous Worth a journey Theae tombs are very impressive We enjoyed exploring the area and viewing many tombs We enjoyed the tombs at night when they are very beautifully illuminated Most stunning was the museum where you visit a tumb and enjoy the burial chamber and their burial gifts Must see Enjoy
Wim R — Google review
It seems like these burial mounds are everywhere in Gyeongju. What I want know is where are all the big holes where they got the dirt to make these mounds? They are lit up at night. When we visited, there were fireworks. I also wondered how they kept the grass on these mounds so neatly cut.
K J — Google review
I enjoyed the gardens and the walk around the complex, which is free. You can pay a small fee to enter the open tomb, where you can learn about the Silla tombs and horse culture.
Kim S — Google review
Great opportunity to see a tomb from the inside. You need to pay to access this part (ticket booth infront of the entrance). You can see how the tombs are built as well as artefacts that were found in the them. The inside is air-conditioned.

Historic Walking Areas
Gyerim Forest is a tranquil woodland area located near Gyeongju National Park in South Korea. Legend has it that this 2,000-year-old forest was where Kim Al-ji, a great ruler of Gyeongju, was found and adopted by King Talhe. The forest is also home to the Cheomseongdae Observatory, the oldest surviving observatory in Asia.
Gyerim Forest, located in Gyeongju, South Korea, is a historic and scenic forest that holds deep cultural significance. Its name, **Gyerim**, meaning "a forest of cranes," comes from an ancient legend where cranes once roamed the area. The forest is a peaceful and picturesque space, often associated with the *Silla Dynasty* as it is near Gyerim's historical landmarks, including the birthplace of King Muyeol, one of the key figures in the Silla Kingdom. The forest is famous for its **dense trees**, **gently winding pathways**, and **quiet, serene atmosphere**, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists seeking a peaceful retreat or a reflective walk in nature. It's also tied to Korean literary history, particularly the *Gyerim poems*, written by scholars and poets who were inspired by the surroundings. In addition to its natural beauty, Gyerim Forest holds **historical significance**. The surrounding area features remnants from the *Silla period*, including the site of an old royal palace and other important archaeological sites. The forest provides a sense of stepping back in time, with its combination of nature, history, and tranquility.
Scott N — Google review
Nicely landscaped forest with fenced pathways and a stream. You end up walking through it as you go from one historic call site to another.
K J — Google review
A small, peaceful woodland located in Gyeongju, South Korea, and is historically significant as the legendary birthplace of Kim Alji, the founder of the Gyeongju Kim clan during the Silla Dynasty. The forest is situated between Cheomseongdae Observatory and the Gyeongju National Museum, making it an easy stop when exploring other nearby attractions. The name "Gyerim" means "Rooster Forest," derived from a legend in which a rooster's crowing led to the discovery of Kim Alji. The forest is filled with ancient trees and offers a serene environment for a leisurely walk. Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty, shaded paths, and calm atmosphere, which provide a nice contrast to the historical sites in Gyeongju. Gyerim Forest is free to visit and can be explored within 30 minutes to an hour. It is also close to other key attractions, such as the Royal Tombs and Wolseong Palace, making it a convenient stop during a day of sightseeing in Gyeongju.
R — Google review
There were interesting shapes of trees with nice angles...a forest. It might have been something special if we could have understood and appreciated some semblance of the allegoric history. It was obviously a well-protected grove of trees with local significance.

A shiny golden box was hanging on a tree in this forest. And a white long-tailed hen cackled(more barked?) under the box. The King considered it weird, so let the retainer broungt the box. From in it, a good-looking baby came out. He was the first "Gyeongju Kim" named "Kim Alji"(김알지), one of the 3 founders of Shilla. Since then the holy forest is called "Chicken forest" or "The first forest"

Bunhwangsa Temple, constructed in A.D. 634 during the Silla dynasty, boasts its original stone tower and adorned pillars that have withstood the test of time. Despite losing many buildings and relics to invasions in the late 16th century, it still holds the Mojeon Stone Tower as National Treasure No.30. The temple's old well, though no longer in use since the 1980s, adds to its historical charm.

I enjoyed this place wherein you can see temples and Ancient Monuments located in Gyeongju. There are also small lakes around the area. When we visit the place, there are also many tourists coming along to see the beauty of the place. Guest house
Gyeongju Guest House is a popular choice for young Korean visitors due to its convenient location near Gyeongju Station and close proximity to shops, restaurants, and a bus stop for easy access to attractions. The hostel offers a decent-sized common area for socializing and has friendly staff. While some find the price slightly high for the average quality, it's considered one of the few good budget options in central Gyeongju.
I stayed here for 3 nights. The prices are exceptional. I stayed in the females floor in a 4 persons room. only 18000won..in that price included is a free breakfast in the lobby. I met a lot of really nice people here. The owner cares for people who travel alone very well and eventually makes them get to know each other, korean style with beer and soju. the rooms and bathrooms are very clean, but i must say the floor heating was on so the room was very (!) hot.make sure to open your window otherwise you'll sweat like crazy. Gyeongju station is only a 3min walk away and the Busses to Bulguksa temple and Seokguram Grotto are just across the street where you can also find a 7eleven. If you need any help just talk to the owners, they're really nice and helpful ! Enjoy :)
Sutes M — Google review
Pretty usual hostel experience. The one downside is you need to pay for most amenities. The breakfast is simple but at least they offer breakfast! I'd really recommend this place for anyone who wants a good cheap place to stay in gyeongju. The location is very good too.
Caleb P — Google review
This is a decent hostel in Gyeongju, the location is very close to the local train station (not the Korea Rail station, which is quite far from the city) and the manager helped us to plan a fantastic itinerary. The price seemed a bit high given the somewhat average quality of the place, but there really are so few options in central Gyeongju that it's probably not a bad deal. The rooms are spacious and have private bathrooms, but there are no keys to the rooms and they only lock from the inside, so you have to lock up your belongings in cabinets inside the rooms whenever you go out. I will caution that the place seemed to be more focused on Korean-speaking visitors and the manager's English might be a bit limited; my partner ended up doing most of the talking in Korean. There also seem to be a few less-helpful assistant managers which seemed a bit grumpy to me. But if you can get past the language barrier then I'd definitely recommend this place.
Marshall W — Google review
Close to many shops and restaurants in Gyeongju, and right next to a bus stop taking you to all the great attractions. Night bicycle tour very good (shows you all the historic sites in the area) but you'll need a translator. Decent sized common area used for drinking and eating (and a chance to mingle). Few bars nearby and most closed early (during chuseok) so we made use of the 7/11 just across the road. Friendly staff,,judging by his photos, the owner has travelled everywhere! Rooms could be a tad cleaner
Benjamin W — Google review
For the minimalistic traveller, it's one of the best deals in town. Located near to the Gyeongju Station, near Downtown area, within walking distance to Anapji Pond and the observatory. Initially the address was confusing. It's along the Gyeongju Train Station towards Bunhwangsa. It's kind of hidden but the signs and Google Maps helped a lil. Breakfast is provided; sufficient to keep you going til lunch. Owner is very hospitable and helpful. Place is old but clean. Went in without expectations and enjoyed it.
Wei C — Google review
Good hostel for few days. It is a bit let down but rooms are clean, breakfast is OK. Staff friendly even if they can't speak much English.

Geumgwanchong is a part of the Silla tombs located in the Noseo-dong district, near the main shopping area. It is an ancient tumulus built between the 4th and 5th centuries and was excavated between 1921 and 1946, revealing significant finds including two gold crowns.
preserved burial site. there is a detailed digital explanation too. there is entrance fee 3,000 won and note it’s a small place that has an annex that is included too

Wow! We stumbled upon this museum while taking a stroll through the tombs on a beautiful sunny morning. What a fantastic find! We had visited the main museum already where it displayed basic information about the tombs and a replica of the coffin area. But visiting Geumgwanchong museum shows in detail exactly how the tombs were made, and it's fascinating. It's inside of a real tomb! Be sure to visit both buildings and view the presentations.
Shawn P — Google review
⚠️ The mounds are NOT for walking. Look at them and take pics if you want, but do not climb them or you will be fined heavily and possibly go to jail for up to 2 years! ⚠️ Geumgwanchong is a large ancient tomb located in Gyeongju, South Korea, part of the Daereungwon Tomb Complex. It dates back to the Silla Dynasty and is known as the "Gold Crown Tomb" because of the gold artifacts, including a crown, that were found inside. The tomb is one of the many royal burial mounds scattered across Gyeongju, which was once the capital of the Silla Kingdom. Visitors can explore the surrounding park where the tomb is located, along with other nearby royal tombs. The site offers a peaceful atmosphere with grassy mounds and walkways, making it a popular spot for both history enthusiasts and casual visitors. There is no entrance fee specifically for Geumgwanchong, but there is usually a fee for entering the larger Daereungwon Tomb Complex, which includes access to other important tombs like Cheonmachong. There are informational signs in both Korean and English that explain the historical significance of the tombs. It’s best to visit during daylight hours, and the complex is a short walk or taxi ride from the city center of Gyeongju.
R — Google review
We were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to go for a walk the morning of our departure, when we came across the Geumgwanchong Silla Tomb Information Center. What a find. In the first hall you get to see the inside of the tomb to appreciate the construction and all the work and ceremony that went into its construction and the subsequent burial. The second hall is the museum where you get to learn more about the Silla and contents of the tomb. Highly recommended if you are interested in Korean history and culture.
Cornelius F — Google review
Geumgwanchong Tomb is a fascinating historical site that offers a unique glimpse into the ancient Silla Dynasty. As one of the many royal tombs in Gyeongju, it stands out for its significance and the treasures that were discovered within. The tomb itself is well-preserved, and the surrounding area is beautifully maintained, creating a serene environment that invites reflection on Korea's rich history. What makes Geumgwanchong particularly special is the opportunity to see the artifacts that were excavated from the tomb, some of which are displayed in nearby museums. These include stunning gold crowns, jewellery, and other royal items that showcase the craftsmanship and wealth of the Silla period. The site is easy to access and provides informative signage to help visitors understand the historical context. It's a quiet and peaceful place, making it a perfect stop for anyone interested in ancient history.
Kavana R — Google review
The measly 3,000 won entrance fee was definitely worth it! Entrance includes admission to 2 separate buildings: excavation area and tombs excavation center. An incredible animated film plays on a loop in the second one. Staff didn’t speak a lot of English but they were very kind. Highly recommended!!!

Located on the 2nd Floor, 125-2, Hwango-dong, Blueboat Hostel Gyeongju is a budget-friendly accommodation option conveniently close to the train station. The hostel offers free breakfast and provides twin, triple rooms as well as dorm beds. With clean rooms and kitchen area, this hostel is an ideal choice for solo travelers looking for affordable lodging in Korea. The inclusive breakfast featuring toast, cereal, and porridge makes it a great value for money option.
My stay at the blue boat hostel was lovely. Very clean, comfortable and as private as a hostel can be. There were little shelves with a charging station and lamp for each bed and a privacy screen that could be pulled down for each bed. The bathrooms were clean and close by. I enjoyed my stay here!

Clean and welcoming! The grandma will welcome you with a big and lovely smile! This hostel is a great base to explore Gyeongju. It is near interesting places to visit and is very accessible. The place is clean and well maintained. I totally recommend this place!

Very good hostel in central Gyeongju. I booked originally a bed, but was upgraded to a room, so that was nice. Very clean all through. Wifi worked perfectly for online meetings. Breakfast was nice (8-10am everyday). Plenty of buses that connect it to the main attractions, and you can also walk to most of them.
Horațiu H — Google review
Great location, friendly staff, clean bathrooms. The breakfast is a nice addition. However a couple of things. When it is busy, the facilities are just not big enough. We went out for breakfast on our last day bc there was no where for us to sit. there is only one toilet in the men’s bathroom, and the urinal makes the bathroom smell Also you cannot be in any of the hostel from 11am - 3pm. We went out early in the morning to do visit a temple so by 12 we were done. it was really hot and we would have liked to come back and shower and change clothes and have a rest, but we had to stay out until 3. considering it’s a room you have paid for lol it seems a bit silly that we couldn’t use our own room. that wasn’t cleaned or the sheets changed during our stay so I don’t really understand that. Apart from that it’s all good
L C — Google review
The location is just awesome. It's very close to the bus stop and most of the tourist attractions are within walkable distance. The rooms are great. They have hangers, a small bag and multiple lockers for each bunk. The shower and toilet cubicles are extremely limited though. There's not much of a common area, it's just a kitchen table. Also, the number of charging ports in the common area is limited. The breakfast is pretty good. They do laundry just once a day and most of the time you won't find anyone at the reception, so you'll have to go down to the store downstairs if you need any help.
Shatadeep B — Google review
Nice hostel, in the center. It is one floor of stairs, the restrooms and showers are clean and ok, they could be just a bit bigger. The bed is comfortable and the lockers are big and just below you.
Marco G — Google review
Highly recommend this hostel! One of the best and cleanest hostel I stayed during this trip. Amazing hospitality from the staff with all the recommendations, nice breakfast and the bathroom and shower area was sparkling clean! Also met the nicest people during my stay!
Indriani — Google review
Great place in a convenient little area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also spoke English to explain the rules and answer any questions. The hostel is very clean and tidy. The beds are comfortable and you have a screen that you can pull down for privacy. All the beds also have lights and lockers underneath them. You can also get breakfast in the morning. If you are traveling and are looking for a quiet place to relax; I would recommend BlueBoat Hostel.

Train station
Gyeongju Station is a transportation hub with adjacent bus terminals and a train station. From here, visitors can take buses 10 or 11 to reach the Bulguk-sa temple. The fare for these buses is fixed regardless of the distance. While there are no transfer discounts for the same route, each stop and its nearby attractions are announced in both Korean and English, making it convenient for international travelers.
Gyeongju Station is a smaller regional train station located in Gyeongju, South Korea. It primarily serves regular trains on the Korail network, such as the Mugunghwa and Saemaeul trains. For those traveling on high-speed KTX or SRT trains, the nearby Singyeongju Station is used instead, as it is part of the high-speed rail network. Gyeongju Station is centrally located within the city, making it convenient for travelers looking to explore historical and cultural sites. The station offers basic facilities such as restrooms, a small waiting area, ticket counters, and some nearby cafes or convenience stores. Taxis and buses are available right outside the station for easy transportation to popular attractions like Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, and Anapji Pond. For travelers planning to visit Gyeongju from other parts of Korea using high-speed rail, they will need to transfer to Singyeongju Station, which is about a 15-minute drive from the city center.

Closed. I could not get a straight answer if it is permanent or not, but - in spite of what Google shows as schedules - Gyeongju Station is closed as of this posting. My understanding is that Singyeongju Station is currently the only rail option, or bus.

The main train station located at the heart of Gyeongju town area. You can take a train from here to Bujeon Station at Busan. No English speaking staff but they should understand you when you tell them that you're looking to go Busan. Takes about 2 to 3 hours. Train schedule is about every hour. You can check the schedule online if you understand Korean or get someone to help you.

The Tomb of General Kim Yusin is a fascinating site with stone carvings depicting the 12 zodiac characters. It's conveniently located near the bus terminal, making it easily accessible for visitors. Many tourists are drawn to this historical location, where they can learn about the story of Kim Yu Sin from knowledgeable guides. The tomb itself is an impressive sight, reflecting the prosperity of the Shilla Kingdom during that era.
A small park that houses the tomb of famous General Kim Yushin. The walk is about 5 mins to the tomb. There is another walking trail just behind. Very peaceful, full of trees, I'd say a great place to be buried. There's a long walk up if you start/park at the bottom. This spot is also part of the stamp tour. It is 2,000₩ to enter.

This place is really close 10 the bus terminal. I enjoyed walking from the terminal up to this location with my boyfriend. When we reached the spot, we were surprised to see several other tourists as well One group was traveling with a tour guide and she was telling the group the story about Kim Yu Sin. So sad that I was only able to undertand a part of it sounds interesting for me. Aside from Kim Yu Sin's tomb, people also visit this place to exercise. Maybe hike or jog around. This place is also close to a river which has a very good view! Really relaxing. l recommend to visit this place since its just near the bus terminal anyways.

If I’m back at Gyeongju I will stay back here again!

The guesthouse owner is the most friendly lady, and her tiny dog candy is so cute. The breakfast is amazing, eggs and toast as well as homemade soup. The dorm beds are good, a bit hard but that’s everywhere in korea. She provided us with electric blankets when it was cold. The showers are a bit weird they are shared locker room style showers but it’s manageable if you take turns. The dorm beds don’t creak when you move which is amazing. I had a great sleep there It is also very close to everything in Gyeongju. Even though it’s not a very social hostel, I made friends with the girls in my room who were all very friendly

I really loved this small guesthouse. It's pretty new so everything is quite clean with superb location. Very quiet setting with nice soft music in the lounge area. Bed was adequately firm, water pressure was awesome in the bathroom which was inside the room. (I guess all rooms in this guesthouse have its own bathroom) Only one downside was the breakfast. Although it was free self-cooking one(bread, egg and coffee), coffee powder in the coffee machine was too little considering the amount of the water filled in, so it was way too weak like drinking coffee flavored water... and there is no butter for the bread! :(

It was the closest to the terminal, and I was captivated by the visual of the ancient tombs in the distance, so I ended up going here without realizing it. In a way, it’s a taste of Daereungwon? It's small enough Because Daereungwon is right across from it, this is a place where you can simply look around and move on. It is a truly amazing sight in itself as the tomb stands so tall. The walking trail is really well-maintained, but it doesn't seem to be clearly differentiated from the regular streets, so I feel like this is the place to go. For a proper tour, we recommend visiting Daereungwon.

(Translated by Google) It is a place where tombs as large as Daereungwon are gathered. It blends in with the houses. The tombs in Daereungwon are certainly well-maintained but cannot be approached closely, but you can see them up close here. In addition to the large tombs, there are also larger tombs that are similar to tombs. Daereungwon is a must-visit course, but I recommend taking a look at this place and Bonghwangdae right next to it, as they are close enough to be seen right from the main gate of Daereungwon. The subway & bus station aren't that far. I even got my Gyeongju travel guide here. The ticket says it all, platform, time of departure, so there's no reason to get lost. If so, there's a tourist info with english & chinese.

Not air conditioned, if waiting for a while, the McDonald's down the street is more comfortable Lockers are available but must be prepaid by 500 won coins only. The people at the ticket counter will make change for you if needed.

(Translated by Google) Some signs in English, the clerk didn't know English, but on the ticket they make it clear. Not to be confused with the other bus terminal. If you go near the bus station in Busan or Seoul, you save time carrying suitcases. It takes longer than the train but it is cheaper. Comfortable seats but they do not have a folding table and power outlet like on the train. (Original) Algunos letreros en inglés, el dependiente no sabía inglés, pero en el billete que dan lo bien claro. No confundir con la otra terminal de autobús. Asientos cómodos pero no tienen mesa plegable y toma de corriente como en el tren.

Gulbulsa Temple Site in Gyeongju is a unique and popular destination for both locals and tourists. The site features stone Buddhas facing four directions, attracting crowds of people who come to pray for their wishes. The carved Buddha statues on the four sides of a large rock are a rare sight in Korea, making it an intriguing place to visit. Despite not being frequented by many, it's considered a hidden gem worth exploring.
(Translated by Google) Both on weekdays and on weekends. A place constantly crowded with people praying for their wishes. How could they have thought of engraving a Buddha statue around a rock back in the day? Different images of Buddha carved on the four sides. The world of Buddha that we encounter step by step is mysterious. It may be because it is located in Dongcheon-dong, a residential complex, but the reason it is known as a famous place in Gyeongju, which has countless Buddhist cultural assets, is probably because the hearts and sincerity of the people at the time of carving the Buddha statue are intact. Banwolseong, also known as the Half Moon Fortress, is a significant historical site in Gyeongju on the Wolseong Belt. Once a palace of the Silla kingdom, it now stands as a park with ancient ruins and the Seokbinggo, or Stone Ice House, dating back to 1738. The fortress has been partially excavated and only remnants of its moat and walls remain.
Part of the cluster of tombs that has great historical significance. These tombs are apparently from the shilla dynasty period and the excavations have happened only in the last century or so. This area has been preserved so

(Translated by Google) It is a huge site that was the site of a palace 2,000 years ago. Excavation is currently in full swing. It is a palace site built on a hill that was a geopolitical fortress at the time, and because excavation is in progress, there is nothing clearly there and it is just like a round hill. A family with children applied for cultural commentary and traveled around Wolseong, listening to the commentary. I think it would be a much more enriching experience with commentary. However, since I had a reservation at the museum and didn't have time, I was content to just walk Wolseong on my own two feet and just take a walk. When you look at this area from the sky, it looks like a half moon, so it is called Banwolseong. It's very quiet and quiet, and there are a lot of bugs. I can't even walk a single step without fanning myself...
