Cheomseongdae is the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia, and possibly even the world. It was constructed during the Silla period, during the reign of Queen Seondeok (r. 632–647 AD). Cheomseongdae was designated as the country's 31st national treasure on December 20, 1962.

This is a must visit in Gyeongju! The museum is fantastic. There's so much history, the installations are modern and sleek. entrance is free, there's a beautiful pond & cafe where you can chill.

An excellent museum to discover and deepen your knowledge of the Silla period. I recommend starting your stay in Gyeongju with this visit — it’s free and provides valuable context for exploring other sites, especially the tumuli. The museum also offers an app with additional explanations in English for selected artifacts. Lockers are available to store your belongings, and several bus lines stop nearby. The only drawback is that there aren’t many dining options in the immediate area, so it’s worth planning your meals accordingly.

It was so crowded. Luckly we were able to find a parking space. No tickets were available for the the crown exhibit. Ot was worth to visit.

Highly recommend. Excellent exhibions of the artefacts discovered through the ages put into historical context. They had a fab Buddha exhibition also. It's a nice walk from the Woljeonggyo Bridge to the museum and then on to the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. They also have a good coffee shop 🙂

This was the highlight of our trip to Gyeongju. The museum is beautifully done and the building is such rich architecture. The exhibits are eye opening with how ancient koreas history is.

Went here in the evening. It was busier then I thought it would be (Sunday night), but not over crowded. It's easy to walk around and would suit all walking abilities. The lighting at night is great for taking photos. There is a parking area and toilets too.

With the pond, the bridge, the royal tombs and the unesco world heritage sites to explore, give yourself an entire day for the area. The pond is beautifully serene, the entrance fee is laughably cheap and you can meet a squirrel or two under the mogwa trees nearby. Absolutely worth the visit.

This is a tranquil garden with a pond and pavilions as centrepiece. It's worth checking out by circling the pond and view the extensive landscaping works. The pavilions and walking trails are illuminated after sunset.

It's a very beautiful place. There are two cats, one is hurt by the tail. The two cats are really cute and calm. I really hope someone kind and generous can take these two for some vet doctor, especially the cat tail hurting one. The ticket sellers and the staffs are indeed very helpful and friendly.

We went here around May, weather was totally different with Busan. Its warm and sunny here. Need to buy ticket from entrance , no crowded and you can enjoy to see the historical building here. I think evening time will be more beautiful as we came here in the morning.

Although this is basically all reconstructed, it feels authentic and magical. Come here in the evening and enjoy the lights, the little islands, trees, and pavillons reflected in the lake. But don't forget your Mosquito spray, if you plan on sleeping the following night! 😀

Very fascinating area. Not much to see except the pond and a few structures but it’s very quiet and relaxing.

Woljeonggyo is very picturesque, especially when lit up at night. Just be aware that the bridge will be closed at 10pm. If you are on the other side, you will have you walk around to the nearby road bridge to re-cross the river.

The bridge is a beautiful reconstruction, there's a very small museum room upstairs open during the day. Although the upstairs was closed when we came back, it's definitely worth visiting in the dark!

This magnificently reconstructed wooden bridge in Gyeongju is famed for its stunning night illumination and perfect water reflection. The pavilion on the bridge is beautifully lit and often features live traditional music performances by performers in hanbok.

The Woljeonggyo Bridge is a reproduction of the original Silla period structure and had been beautifully constructed. It is an excellent day and night photography destination. It is a popular stop on day tours from Busan and there are a number of restaurants and cafes that are on the site and worth a look including one that sold an excellent injeolmi and ice cream creation.

It is a beautiful village but prices are significantly above even Seoul and food is not the best. Nevertheless worth an afternoon especially if you are in Busan. We were lucky to be there during cherry blossom so it was extra charming.

What you see is what you get and what you will see are some large, grassy mounds (one containing a small museum). Beautifully maintained, it’s worth an amble but, honestly, thirty minutes is more than enough. Telletubby fans might get more of a kick out of it.

We had a pleasant walk in the complex to visit the tombs and learn more interesting historical stories of Silla Kingdom and the Kings. Admission was free, the vibe was really nice even it was raining heavily when we were there.

It seems like these burial mounds are everywhere in Gyeongju. What I want know is where are all the big holes where they got the dirt to make these mounds? They are lit up at night. When we visited, there were fireworks. I also wondered how they kept the grass on these mounds so neatly cut.

I enjoyed the gardens and the walk around the complex, which is free. You can pay a small fee to enter the open tomb, where you can learn about the Silla tombs and horse culture.

Great opportunity to see a tomb from the inside. You need to pay to access this part (ticket booth infront of the entrance). You can see how the tombs are built as well as artefacts that were found in the them. The inside is air-conditioned.

A peaceful park and a magical place. The big tomb mounds, never opened for two thousand years, make you feel connected to the past.

Much better than the jungang market nearby. This one is more lively, cleaner and more ready to eat food where you can comfortably dine in.

Seongdong Market is a typical Korean Market. But it was pretty quiet during our visit, possibly because it was 3pm on a rainy Monday. We ate at a food stall. The tteokbokki, spicy fried chicken, tempura and onion pancake was good and cheap.

Market with lots of produces. Good for tourist who are keen to experience the local life with the banchan buffet at a really affordable price ~$7.

Come and experience the authentic Korean street food. How it works here is like a mini buffet. First choose a stall at the food court (for me, I just go for the one surrounded by most ahjumas). Then grab a seat. You will be given a bowl of rice, soup, cutlery and most importantly an empty plate! With the spread on the table, you are free to add whatever you would like to have it with rice. Tips: if you have a curious tastebud, take a little of something you'd like to try. If you like it, you can always go for more.

It was a remarkable experience to explore one of the magnificent royal tombs of the Shila kingdom in Kyongju City. The tombs were filled with a wealth of artifacts and royal treasures, all meticulously preserved for visitors to admire. Although many of the treasures on display were replicas, their splendor was undeniable. The genuine artifacts are housed in the National Museum in Seoul, but this visit was an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.

This tomb is just a small part of a pretty big park, but it is also the only tomb you can go inside. Very interesting history and lots of replicas of artifacts that they found in the tomb. I took my time and only spent about 30 minutes inside (and that was after reading all I could about the tomb construction). Definitely worth the price and there are lots of tombs in this area.

Standard Starbucks wrapped in a traditional Korean hanok style. This was an easy landmark for us because our hanok was around the corner on a quiet side street.

One of the prettiest Starbucks cafes in existence. There is also a part to sit on the floor without shoes, traditional style.

Great service as usual from Starbucks. The building is so unique and beautiful. Due to the cold weather and rain, that hot Matcha was so good.

Wow! We stumbled upon this museum while taking a stroll through the tombs on a beautiful sunny morning. What a fantastic find! We had visited the main museum already where it displayed basic information about the tombs and a replica of the coffin area. But visiting Geumgwanchong museum shows in detail exactly how the tombs were made, and it's fascinating. It's inside of a real tomb! Be sure to visit both buildings and view the presentations.

We were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to go for a walk the morning of our departure, when we came across the Geumgwanchong Silla Tomb Information Center. What a find. In the first hall you get to see the inside of the tomb to appreciate the construction and all the work and ceremony that went into its construction and the subsequent burial. The second hall is the museum where you get to learn more about the Silla and contents of the tomb. Highly recommended if you are interested in Korean history and culture.

The measly 3,000 won entrance fee was definitely worth it! Entrance includes admission to 2 separate buildings: excavation area and tombs excavation center. An incredible animated film plays on a loop in the second one. Staff didn’t speak a lot of English but they were very kind. Highly recommended!!!

There are 25 or so food booths at this location. It’s protected from the elements but also in an open environment. We paid 12,000 won for a 4 booth food sampler. Everything was delicious and we thought that it was a great deal. Our favorites were the Filipino cuisine offerings at booths #11 and #22. All of the Korean booth operators were very kind and welcoming. 👍

We walked in, ordered two pieces of bread filled with the red bean paste. It was served warm and was tasty. The place was busy people coming in for their orders. It’s quite a large bakery that produces just one item. It was good, though I get the impression this place runs more on nostalgia than the actual pastry itself.

Absolutely dissapointed! It looks like cool fancy place, but in fact it just regular cafe. The prices are quite high for everything. My coffee was discussing 😦 it taste like cheap coffee from convenient store. Ice cream looks so poor as for 10$. Be honest, I was excited high quality brunch, but I've got terrible food and coffee.

Very large cafe with lots of parking and seating. Brunch was good, but some items were off. Bagel not toasted. Not breakfast sausage. Bacon not crispy. Weird bitter side salad. Everything is too Koreanized. 😞

The Wolseong Fortess or Palace is mostly an excavation site. The moats (spelled as Welseong) and hills make for a pleasant walk and views. There are no significant structures except the Seokbinggo ice storage. There is a Silla Royal Palace Video Hall on the main road which shows a free 15 minute video about the site

Nice change from the oppressiveness of Seoul. Eclectic restaurants, cafes, shops, desserts and snacks (fried squid on a stick!). Touristy, with a bit of kitsch, but mostly done right. Hanok-styled architecture is mandated (see Starbucks review) nothing over 2 storeys. Short walk to historical sites. We visited in October so there were no crowds. I imagine the heat and swarms in the Summer may be unpleasant.

A lot of nice souvenirs and trinkets shops. Nice to walk down alleys of traditional korean shophouses. However, the 10cent cheese shop and street food is very repetitive. Would be nice to have a greater variety of street food. Recommend to bring your international driving license to ride the buggy cars around for rental. Fun and cheap activity.

this covers a huge area and there are lots of food and cafe options here as well as trendy select shops. half a day isn't even enough if you want to fully explore every nook and cranny. most of the cafes are super aesthetic and even in traditional hanok style. honestly i feel this area beats jeonju's hanok village in vibes and quality of food selection. there's korean, thai, viet, japanese, chinese, western food etc here and you'll be spoilt for choice. weekends are particularly crowded so getting a seat at popular restaurants will have a wait time

Went for dinner on a weekday night. No wait with plenty of seating options and great ambience. Tried their Ragu pasta and seasoning risotto. The ragu pasta was delicious and flavourful. For the risotto, the waiter kindly informed us about the spice level (around shin ramyeon level) and adjusted it to a non spicy version so we could still enjoy it. I think if you can handle a bit of spice, it would definitely enhance its flavour!

Nerd is a super cute brunch cafe in the middle of Gyeongju. We waited for about 50 minutes to get in and the vibes were immaculate. The bathroom was clean and had all the amenities you would need including stain remover ! The food was very aesthetic but overall a 7/10. Casual flavours, nothing to write home about but definitely a good brunch. The hash brown was seggsy, definitely get that :) Staff were lovely, vibes were 10-10 and the mocha was lovely. Great little gem in Gyeongju for western breakfast/brunch food. They have 2 vegan food options on the menu (Walk in the forest platter and avocado toast) and both are delicious and beautifully presented. Their coffee was excellent too, and they do have oat milk. They also offer free water. Service was attentive and friendly and the interior is filled with light and plants. Highly recommend this place!

They were very unkind with our baby. Food was quite bad, we ordered pizza and risotto. These were not tasty at all, like a bunch of ingredients cooked together without any sense and a lot of spicy at all. They shall not use names as pizza or risotto since they are not cooking these dishes. Only good thing was beer. Total price 50,000 KRW we may have spent in other place.

Most authentic Korean dinner that we had during this winter holidays! Warm and friendly though no much communication in a typical roadside homely setting restaurant. The dishes were not salty but distinctly flavourful .. sumptuous! Side dishes were unlimited but we really couldn’t repeat most as portions were generous. Very happy to dine here and look forward to be here so my family makes future trips to Gyeongju!

It's a great place for an authentic experience in a district a little bit hipster. The ladies running the place were extremely nice. For the price of dish for two people (32000won)we've gotten 19 different banchan plates and two soups, on top of the actual order. The banchans were also really unique, both veggie, seafood and Fish based. Totally an experience worth repeating.

Usually when there's a queue at a restaurant, it is a good sign ! Well... That wasn't the case for this one ! We were served half the dishes we ordered and some of them were really not good... After being in Korea for 1 month i still find little places like this one that completely mesmerize me! The pork was superb! All the little side dishes just exploded with flavours! (Loved in particular the little fish one) And the side fish soup was out of this world! If you pass trough gyeongju make sure to pass by this place! Oh and just to add it is very cheap! Specially considering the amount and quality of the food

Bit of a long line for this place but it was worth it on a cold winter's day. I initially thought they were putting large chunks of butter in the grilled pastries but it turned out to be cheese! We had the most magical stay at Doran Doran during our time in Gyeongju. The place itself is so pretty, quiet and secluded. The rooms are very clean with all the amenities you could need. The location for access to all the sites in Gyeonju is also actually perfect. What really makes the stay are the hosts, they are so sweet and kind and will do anything to make you feel welcomed. The other guests we met were also really lovely.

Lovely stay for 2 nights here. Great location, conveniently situated near the city center & main street. Convenience store and café close by. Had a lovely, clean room with a big, comfortable bed, private bathroom and TV. Got free water and had a delicious breakfast. One of my highlight while traveling trough South Korea.

We came here in summer and love it so much, we decided to return during winter with a visiting friend. The room was comfortable with private bathroom, air conditioner and heater, the location is great, we walked to the pond, museum, royal tombs and lots of restaurants nearby. The breakfast is easy mix of self cooked eggs and sandwiches, selection of tea, coffee, juice to start the day. The staffs/owners are friendly and welcoming. We might come back for the third time😄.

We just finished a four night stay at Doran Doran Guest House. Originally, we thought that we stayed too long in Gyeongju but we had an amazing stay because of the wonderful hospitality of the grandma. She painstakingly made delicious breakfast for us every morning, including fruits, eggs, and ham and cheese bread. She and her husband live in the Hanok and made the living room available to our family so we could play cards and eat our ramen. The rooms were small and the beds were hard but the grandma's hospitality was so warming that our kids said it was the best hotel in our Korea trip. Thank you!

Stopped here for some tea and snacks with my friends on our trip to Gyeongju. We have no Korean but the owner was a lovely lady and it was very easy to order. We each tried two different teas and the grilled rice cakes. It was so delicious.

2025.03.31 Not knowing the type of tea that I should order, the owner of Bichkkuli (빛꾸리) suggested that I tried the healthy persimmon tea made from wild leaves hand-picked from Jiri mountain. The rice cakes came with 6 flavours, - the sticky one entails cutting, pulling and twisting (similar to eating spaghetti). Floor seating with cool ambience. Not for those with weak knee.

If you want a real hanok experience this is the place to visit rather than the many replicas around the neighborhood. I spent many childhood summers here sleeping in those very rooms when the hanok belonged to my grandparents who have long passed on. I came back with my own family 40+ years later to show my daughter where her ancestral home is. It brought tears to my eyes. I’m so grateful to the tea owner who has lovingly restored the hanok rather than tearing it down or making garish renovations. Her handmade teas and rice cakes are wonderful. You’ll feel restored here and will understand a bit more about what life used to be like around here.

Clean and comfortable restaurant with helpful staff. Menu is pretty short and we shared the short rib noodle soup and beef pancake. The noodles were springy and broth had depth of flavour. Beef itself was a bit overcooked but overall, not a bad dish. While the beef pancake was more like an omelette, it was delicious. Could do with a sauce though.
