The menu offers exceptional contemporary Japanese cuisine featuring the freshest fish, meats, and produce available while upholding high standards of marine stewardship and sustainability.
I travel a good bit for work and I love trying restaurants that locals recommend when I visit an area for the first time. The front desk woman recommended this place and it did not disappoint. I even went back my second night. I typically test a new spot by ordering something simple and basic. The reason I do this is simple if a restaurant puts care into something basic I am positive the hard stuff will be exquisite. Their miso soup is stupid good meaning everything else should be great and in this case it was The mgr rob was funny and helpful my server tonight Lucas was spot on with suggestions and the choice of paired local wines was spot. I would also give major props to my server from last night but I can’t recall her name.

We sat out on a warm evening, with an aim of a light dinner. Service is warm and friendly. Kudos to the manager who managed very professionally an incident that occurred. I was a little worried that it could escalate though she handled it well. Thank you. The food - the chix karage was nicely fried. Cucumber sunomono / salad and seaweed salad - decent. They are what you expect tho they are also hard to go wrong. We ordered one roll to try out - it tastes fine tho it isnt great. The roll was kinda floppy and loose, and way too large (circumference wise). It was cut very thinly (about half an inch) and it probably was a practical choice as it is such a large / fat roll… tho it ruins the proportion and mouthfeel of how the roll should be. The ingredients of the roll were otherwise fresh and tasty. To put it in the right context - I would not provide this feedback if this restie is not positioned as a sushi restaurant and is not so pricey.
Winnie T — Google review
Sushi rolls tasted good. Fish quality was acceptable. I cannot recommend the oyster here. Service was ok. We did patio seating, but I recommend indoor for two reason. Probably will received better service. A bit slow on the patio and also random foul smell when the breeze shifts. Parking can be challenging as it is downtown so just street parking.
Vee H — Google review
Overall, I will not come back. Best dish was the ceviche with taro chips otherwise, food was mid, karage chicken was raw or cold half of the plate, service seems like they were generally dont want to be there and not justify the price. Service: We went during happy hour and the server’s face turned so unhappy after we asked for the happy hour menu. He probably was having a bad day, or the place doesn’t treat their employees so well somehow. Food: sashimi and/or nigiri was so mid…the tuna was actively stinky 😬. We ordered a cooked roll to see if it tastes better, and nope the entire roll was just so bland and flat on flavor. The chicken karage was raw in the middle, or cold or recooked/deep fried too many times that it ended up chewy.
Chi W — Google review
Everything at Bamboo Sushi was so good, I just wish I’d come more hungry! The crispy rice with salmon was amazing, and almost the entire menu was gluten-free (except the burger). Great service and such a nice dining experience overall.
Bren B — Google review
Everything we ordered was flavorful, and the sushi was unique. The only critique was that the service can be very slow. We waited for about 15 minutes for a server and eventually had to call someone over
Aire P — Google review
Had such a great experience here with our server Mikalo. Honestly the best service we had during our visit to Portland. We ordered hot sake and the Tomodachi board. Everything tasted super fresh!
Cora M — Google review
This is my new favorite sushi joint! I had the Yellowtail nigiri and the Unicorn Roll. The Unicorn blew my mind! It has a nice, spicy kick along with so many fresh flavors. My wife had the king salmon nigiri and a custom-made veggie roll. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Our drinks were delicious as well. I would give you 6 stars if I could.

Masu Sushi is a modern Japanese restaurant located in downtown Portland, offering an updated take on traditional Japanese cuisine. Since 2004, this locally owned and family-operated establishment has been serving unique dishes and prides itself on its diverse menu and accommodating space for both small and large parties. The restaurant provides a warm and inviting atmosphere with attentive staff, making it a delightful dining experience.
Great place to eat with great chefs and outstanding food. It’s so much more fun at a sushi bar when you have engaging chefs that joke and chat. This place really has a wide open feel to it. Giant tall windows open onto the tree lined street. The setting sun painting the whole scene in golden tones and shadows. Really amazing! They have a really awesome selection of sake and the quality of the fish was superb! I’ll be back.
Ric W — Google review
Perhaps the best sushi restaurant in Portland. Food quality is exceptionally high, presentation is beautiful and authentic. Service level is very excellent. My server even taking the time to explain each type of fish in a dish, like the chirashi. The vibe is upscale friendly, with a beautiful view out onto the street (it’s on the second floor). Pricing is very fair for the quality, prsentation and service, even if somewhat higher than other downtown sushi restaurants. Highly recommended.
Chris — Google review
Absolutely wonderful food, cocktails & vibes. Sushi and small plates were soooo yummy. Amazing cocktail, wine and sake list. Atmosphere was great and so fun being up on the second floor. Servers were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive.
Bailey E — Google review
A nice sushi restaurant in Portland near Pearl. Very low key entrance but when you reach to upstairs it has quite a large area. Handsomely done interior and an extensive selection of sake. Food is excellent and the happy time menu is a good bargain. All wait staff are very nice and friendly. I will come back to this place many times more.
Eiko R — Google review
Hands down the best omakase we’ve ever had. Not only was the fish top notch but the creativity and pairings were daring yet rewarding. You can sip the shoyu, it’s that good, they have the most expensive nori on the market, the ginger and wasabi are good, and of course the diverse array of fish is high quality. I don’t know all the names so I can’t repeat it, but I’ll mention that the otoro is worth the admission. The duck noodle dashi soup was also a standout. Oh and the teas were fine as well The ginger ice cream monaka was a lovely dessert as well The location and vibes are very unassuming, as was the service, although the people are lovely. If not for the food you’d think it’s just a normal neighborhood casual sushi joint. You MUST treat yourself to the omakase, until they blow up it can be your own little gem here in Portland that SF and Seattle don’t have

Ended up here on accident and it was such a great experience! The atmosphere is super vibey and low lighting. Our waitress was so sweet and was able to answer all our questions and gave perfect descriptions for the food. The food.. was incredible! Quite eye pleasing but most importantly delicious. We got three appetizers and two sushi rolls, leaving us fulfilled for the night. Will be back to try more and definitely try the dessert next time.

Great sushi, fun atmosphere and great location. Took my team from work out for dinner and drinks. The service was very nice and the rolls and scallops were fantastic. Would recommend and will be back!

Terrific in all senses of the word. Appetizers, nigiri, main courses, cocktails, and of course dessert. Date night, birthday, or anniversary and you won’t be disappointed. Get a glass of Sake. Not asking, I’m telling you! (You won’t regret it!)

Restaurant
Saburos | Sushi House Restaurant is a bustling, no-frills Japanese restaurant located in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood of Southeast Portland. Since its opening in 1988, it has been drawing crowds with its generous portions of super-fresh sushi rolls, nigiri, tempura, and marinated tuna. Despite the wait to get in, patrons are rewarded with monstrous servings of unagi, hamachi, creamy scallops and salmon skin rolls.
10000 stars. As a sushi connoisseur, this was like heaven. Upon being seated, I could hear 2 other parties rave about how good the food always is here -- this is a good sign. Super fast service, very kind waiters. The serving sizes are HUGE, very well priced and worth every bite. I was astonished how huge these slabs of fish were--as well as their sushi rolls. Everything was fresh, tasty, and worth drooling for. 🤤 The Unagi btw--was my favorite in my opinion, it was SO succulent and addicting, yes I will be back.
Hana — Google review
Came here with a few friends when I was visiting and it was great! The waitress was super nice and very communicative. We went around 6pm and they were pretty busy, we waited for about 25-30 minutes which wasn’t a problem at all, and the staff was super accommodating! The food was great and the portions are super generous! Inside is very cute but it is also pretty small and tight. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a good sushi spot! :)
Kayla H — Google review
Super large pieces of sushi/nigiri, very fresh, and attentive staff and sushi chefs. We had 6 people at the table, and the sheer amount of food was overwhelming! Prices seem high, but totally worth it because the portions are so big. Thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere as well.
Trish — Google review
Been here a couple times but I never remember how absolutely massive and generous the portions are. You definitely get what you pay for! The salmon was so fresh and delish! The wait can be long to be seated and the servers don’t really check on you often since it’s always so busy but that’s ok! The food comes out pretty quick after the initial wait of a getting table and putting in your order. I was really thirsty so I drank my water but it honestly tasted like really bad tap water and the cup had a fishy smell unforch.. -0.5 for this 9.5/10
Rebecca L — Google review
Every time I go down to Portland, I MUST stop by Saburos! However, I always forget how massive the hand rolls are, but I still have a great experience chowing down the meal. Leftovers? Always. Thank you for existing 💖 The staff are incredibly nice. Sometimes, the waitlist can get pretty long, but the wait goes by fast.
Phi D — Google review
This place had been on my must-visit sushi list in Portland for a long time. The portions were generous, and the sashimi was thick and fresh. Next time, I’d like to order just sashimi with a bowl of sushi rice on the side. Nigiri was good too, but felt a bit pricey compared to sashimi alone. Highly recommended!
Sally N — Google review
If you like Susi roll and Nikini Susi, you should check what’s Jumbo meal that I never have!! Seafood is fresh, delicious and very jumbo!! Remember order half meal compare the other Japanese restaurant or prepare bring the rest of food in TO GO
Nelson Y — Google review
Great sushi, very fresh and flavorful. The portions for both the sushi and rolls were surprisingly generous. The service was great, and the cozy atmosphere made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I’d come back to.

Sushi restaurant
Murata Restaurant is a renowned Japanese dining spot located in Portland, Oregon. It offers an upscale setting with traditional decor and serves delectable sushi and sashimi. Known for its long-standing reputation as one of the best restaurants in the USA, Murata provides great value for Japanese cuisine downtown. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on busy days or if you prefer a private tatami room.
I had the ribeye, and I was really impressed. It was a good cut, cooked to a nice medium rare, and had great flavor and char. The miso soup also got the spot. Definitely will go back and try other options! The staff was friendly and the service was quick.
T F — Google review
We had a small group and reserved tatami room. We all had a great experience. The service was great. Everyone we interacted with was awesome. The food was great! We had a few in our group that "didn't like raw fish" not really knowing. At the end of the evening they absolutely love sushi. We tried a lot of different things and it was a ton of fun.
Elijah S — Google review
We had lunch for two, both taking a $28 combo of a succulent, large steak, three sushi, three pieces of a roll and miso soup. We loved it! Parking at nearby garage is validated. Excellent value. What could be better? Service was a bit scattered, and servers appeared overwhelmed. Side salad featured a tasteless tomato and similarly tasteless iceberg lettuce.
Jack R — Google review
Authentic Japanese sushi Love the Japanese interior design and atmosphere here! The bluefin tuna-mid fat was melted easily in your mouth. The sushi was fresh and delicious! The cherry bloom tree on the top of the restaurant was blooming. It made me feel like I was in Japan.
Pin L — Google review
THE totally authentic Japanese dishes, hands down! Sushi is REALLY good and they taste very authentic, I was shocked because I never even imagined I could eat this good Japanese dishes (especially sushi) anywhere outside of Japan. If you want to know what the real Japanese cuisine is, this is the place to show you.
K K — Google review
Murata is my family’s favorite restaurant for special events and celebrations. The tatami room has great Japanese atmosphere and the food is authentic. The service is great with hot towels and appetizers. The food came quickly after ordering. I especially love the items on the special menu. Murata has several special things that no other restaurants serve in Portland area. On the regular menu, my family’s favorites are salmon nigiri, chawanmushi (steamed egg) and the fried chicken nuggets. Reservation is highly recommended especially if you want the tatami rooms. The only complaint is the waiters generally have no smiles and always seem very busy.
Vicky — Google review
The service was a bit slow. I sat in the chair for more than 30 minutes before someone came to speak to me and arrange my seating at the bar. I ordered from the dinner menu, and while it was good, the fish was much better than the beef. We also ordered some sushi—the portions were small, but the fish was fresh. Crowed environment, a little pricey for the food.

Zilla Sake is a trendy bar adorned with local art that not only offers an impressive selection of sakes but also serves gluten-free sushi. The establishment takes great care to ensure that their sushi is entirely gluten-free, using gluten-free tempura batter and exclusively tamari soy sauce. Originally established as a sake bar, it has now become one of Portland's top spots for sushi under the leadership of Kate Koo.
My gf and I dined in for our anniversary, and had the omikase for two. It was a really nice and fun experience over all. The staff was very nice and attentive. And the food was amazing. It’s an 8 course experience. Which featured a lot of food and many different things to try. We also had a sake flight and tea. Some of my standouts were the bluefin tuna, the crab and tofu dish, crispy skin trout, and the 3 week dry aged king salmon. I would definitely recommend you try it out.
Trent W — Google review
The food was good and the sake too. The service is what I found a bit disappointing. Although I got seated almost immediately, it took them like 20 mins to get my order. It wasn’t really that busy, but the server was just doing other things instead of coming and asking if I was ready to order. I found the food pricey as well. So in summary: expensive food + slow service = I’m not coming back =)
Chris — Google review
I really like this place. I visited here about 2 weeks ago for the first time. Sushi selection is great. Quality even better! Staff was friendly and helpful. They have a extensive Sake selection and they helped me navigate it for what I wanted. Plus they have sake flights. If you like sushi, I recommend a visit.
Vance W — Google review
Had a great experience. I ordered the lobster appetizer, a selection of nigiri, and some rolls — all were excellent. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. It’s definitely on the spendy side, but absolutely worth it for the quality and experience. Will be back!

VERDICT: Difficult to recommend. Good presentation but leaves much to be desired. FULL REVIEW: ----------------------- Kate Koo and Sam Saltos may have indeed been acclaimed in 2017 in Forbes, and even featured on the Discovery Channel, and they do offer classes on how to prepare fish. I found Zilla Sake on Instagram and thought it would be a great idea to show my son what a proper Japanese higher end experience was like. - (Oh dear...) So as military fashion we got there early, but on the reviews I read it mentioned it opens at 4PM, but they were still closed. My mistake, I was incorrect. I did not know you needed to have a reservation, but I was told you should make one as it's very busy by the Sushi Chef in the Video. My assistant did make one for 6PM, but I can tell you its not needed as there was only 2 other people in the restaurant with 5+ staff there at opening and it was very empty. The presentation was nice, and the Maitre d was a bit odd as I have always gave gratuity to the person who gets me a great seat in the restaurant, but he oddly refused - A first I might add. Maybe this is Japanese specific as its not normal to tip in Japan, but I find it odd that this was the response with absolute refusal. Very odd. Never seen anyone turn down gratuity for good service and seating us early despite our reservation being at 6PM, but maybe it's some unwritten rule I was not aware of. ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯ He seated us right at the bar, with another chefe that was very helpful and IMO made a very well presented recommendation and even filled the soy sauce Ramekin & was very nice to touch. As you can see it was presented very well. I did not feel to try any other of he Libations, but I am sure they are lovely. Inside is nice, its quiet, and it does have a very nice look with great presentation. This concludes my review. 🄷🄾🅆🄴🅅🄴🅁 ..... This video says it all that I have included. I do not appreciate being accused of using Illicit substances by the staff as I have never done any of the sort and am proudly drug free for 46 years - My entire life BTW. I still hold an active Secret Security clearance to work with Nuclear Arms, and a allegation of smoking a weed pipe could affect my reputation and future. Not to mention my Son being accused of the same. The person was there and offered no apology either. For that alone, I can't with good conscious recommend this place to those who care about their reputation or wish to entertain anyone or clients on that alone. I did leave a $40 tip for the fantastic service of the chef that made our meal, and his attention to detail was superb! I am disheartened by what should have been a great memory on a Saturday with my son ended up being less than that to say the very least. All the best to Zilla. It's just not for people like us I guess.
Mickey M — Google review
Really, really enjoyed this place. I will say though, the service slows down immensely once they get busy. Try to go on off hours or before any dinner rush or late night date rush. Super friendly staff love being able to see food as it was being made, we sat at the bar. It's the most I've ever spent on sushi and it was totally worth it!
Rebecca H — Google review
One of the best kept secrets of getting fantastic sushi and omakase in the city. A great selection of sake personally curated by the owner. The restaurant doubles as a sushi grade, dry aged fish butchery shop that serves fantastic sashimi rice bowls on the back end of the week. reservations highly recommended in the weekend.
TheOtherChef — Google review
We went for the omakase. It took three hours and most of the time was spent waiting between courses. I thought the food was alright and the ingredient quality was good, however the server who brought out most of our dishes couldn’t remember what they were called and therefore couldn’t explain well to us what was being served. He also pointed at items with hands right over the dish, which I found off-putting. And at one point his thumb was touching the nigiri when it was served. It was quite uncomfortable to sit for three hours as the chairs are wood and not cushioned. It was $360 (they include the 20% gratuity) for two people, so not something I’d do again. It doesn’t seem like the servers are familiar with fine dining etiquette, so the price seems inflated for the experience.

Lovely Spot in Downtown Portland, Great Atmosphere and Quality Food This restaurant in downtown Portland has such a beautiful setting and view. The space is charming, there’s a smaller outdoor area currently open, and we were told a larger section will open in a few weeks when the weather improves. We ordered a lot of food, and everything was high quality and delicious. The service was excellent, staff were attentive, friendly, and constantly checking in. They walked by often to make sure we had what we needed, cleared our small table regularly, and even asked if the heater was keeping us warm enough. It really made us feel cared for. The atmosphere was so lovely that we ended up staying for a few hours and we didn’t want to leave! But of course, it’s only fair to make room for others to enjoy the evening too. Prices are pretty standard for a nice place in Portland not cheap, but fair for the quality you get. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice evening out, whether you’re with friends or on a date with someone special.

Amazing food and drinks. A great upscale place for a fancy dinner or date night. Love that it feels like you’re in a plane. Tables were a little too close together for my liking and our waiter only checked on us a few times, and would’ve liked more frequent check ins so we didn’t have to wait as long for drinks. Cannot complain about the food at all, everything was good!! And the cocktails were some of the best. Try the duck fat old fashioned!

Amazing view. If you want sunset view come early and notify them during booking We came late and wanted the night view and we got it. Drinks are amazing - white beer from Japan and the sake were spot on Food is 4 Star as someone from Asia the fusion is ok

Dinner at Departure was such a great experience. I tried the avocado maki, salmon maki, and a perfectly cooked salmon dish, all of which were delicious and beautifully presented. The Lucien Crémant was a highlight and paired really well with the food. Nina took amazing care of the table, always friendly and attentive without being overbearing. On top of that, the space itself feels modern, stylish, and lively, which makes the whole night even better. Definitely the kind of spot I’d recommend to anyone visiting Portland who wants good food, great service, and a memorable atmosphere.

Great views. There are 3 different rooms and if you are coming for sunset be sure to ask for the room with food service and views. I wasn't aware and was seated in the main restaurant facing the river and was able to see mountains but had to move to another location to watch the sunset. Food was okay for the price. Crab mazeman was delicious. The ones I tried on the crispy menu (pork belly and tots) were mid. Very crunchy, was a chore to eat and did not have much flavor. The Brussels sprouts from the wok were quite soggy. The espresso martini was very delicious and highly recommend.
Phil Y — Google review
This restaurant located on the 15th floor is a scenic location with sweeping views of Portland city and sky line. We enjoyed every dish we ordered - the Brussels sprouts were soft and yet crispy, the garlic fried rice was tasty, the chicken wings were flavorful, the grilled octopus was slightly chewy but in a good “golden sauce” and avocado rolls were fresh. Drinks were well-made. There appeared to be some confusion with servers with multiple different people showing up and asking similar questions though overall the service was fine.
M C — Google review
Cool vibe. It has a space-age feel to it with the architecture angles. Cocktails were great. We tried a bunch of apps and entrées and it was pretty good, but the halibut was dry. Can't beat the views though. Service was great as well.
Mandy M — Google review
Met chef Dan randomly at a lunch spot and my girlfriend and I stopped by for a sunset cocktail on his recommendation. Stayed around for a little grub and so glad we did. The Brussels were killer and the sushi roll was so fresh! The vibe was on point, cocktails were fun and inventive, and the sunset was the best I've seen in town thus far. Highly recommend this place! Dan's the man! Thanks for pointing us here!

Mirakutei Sushi & Ramen is a cozy Japanese restaurant located in Portland's industrial district. It offers a diverse menu featuring upmarket sushi, small tapas-style dishes, and some of the best ramen in the area. The sushi master, Hiro Ikegaya, is renowned for his skillful preparation of seafood and Asian fusion tapas.
I have been coming here for years. In my opinion this is one of the most underrated sushi restaurants in town. A hidden gem, truly. Their food is always fresh, creative, and beautifully plated. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is surprisingly not bad, at most I’ve had to park 2-3 blocks away. Atmosphere wise, sometimes I wish they would dim their lights sooner, or maybe even modernize the space with new decor and art. Lots of blank wall space, but also really chic and clean in the regard. Did I mention their sake list is super robust and absolutely delicious? Anyway, definitely come here if you love sushi, sake, and a good time.
Nusheen B — Google review
Alexa was super attentive to my needs and answered all the questions I had. I chose a Sapporo for beer and tried "Cabin in the snow" Sake which was refreshing before trying their amazing Ramen. I got the House Tonkotsu Ramen 🍜. Full of flavor, mushrooms and noodles. They were even sweet to my service animal. I would 💯 recommend doing business with this establishment again.

Hard to find a place that does both ramen and sushi well. Tonkotsu was flavorful, rainbow roll was super fresh, big windows were cozy on a rainy day

A really great ramen and sushi West Ryan! They have tons of specials and the staff was very friendly as well. A half mile walk from the convention center, in a decent part of town but has some rough parts. They also had a very nice drink selection.

Absolutely! Here's a polished and enthusiastic review based on your experience: --- 🌟 A Return Worth Celebrating! 🌟 This was my second visit—and honestly, it was just as unforgettable as the first. I originally came here to celebrate my birthday, and the food blew me away so much that I had to come back for more. Every dish I ordered was a masterpiece. The house tonkatsu ramen was rich and comforting, with a broth that could warm your soul. The dynamite salmon roll, hello kitty roll, and kazien roll each brought their own unique flavor profiles and textures—playful, bold, and beautifully balanced. But the real showstopper? The chef’s choice sashimi. Each slice of fish was paired with toppings that elevated the flavor to a whole new level. It was clear that every detail was thoughtfully curated, and the result was nothing short of spectacular. If you're looking for a place that delivers not just amazing food but a memorable experience, this is it. I’ll definitely be back again.

Best ramen I’ve ever had. The house sake/ sushi was incredible and service was perfect. I think our servers name was Rachel , she was awesome !

Insane. Delicious. Solid recommendations from the wait staff and even more delightful eats. The Pacific Northwest roll, salmon flight, and miso with Ramon plus egg plus pork was incredible. Definitely favorite sushi and ramen in Portland.

One of our favorite places in Portland. Service and ambiance is always nice with plenty of seating and really like the calm and chill atmosphere. Sushi is fresh and I always go for their chirashi bowl. They have a pretty decent size sake list and a full bar. Minus one star because sometimes their chirashi can be a hit and miss. I feel like with the cost of the chirashi, miso soup should be included (personal preference). Prices are reasonable though.

Yoko's Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is a cozy and homey spot that has been a favorite in the Reed neighborhood for over 30 years. The trendy, modern dining room features an open counter where authentic sushi is served, along with a selection of hot Japanese specialties. The restaurant is known for its extensive sake options and affordable nigiri and maki menu. With a casual and friendly atmosphere, Yoko's offers a vibrant dining experience in Southeast Portland, close to Reed College.
Still the best little sushi spot in Portland! Always spot on! The Taka's Tuna is a shining star appetizer that I get everytime. Never had a single complaint. It's tony and fills up fast. They are only open 4 hours for dinner and it's packed the whole time so show up early. If you're solo or a duo, sit at the bar and watch the magic! Staff is attentive and friendly! A must for anyone visiting Portland!

One of our new favorite sushi spots in PDX! Love the history of the restaurant and the teams honors it well. Portion size of the sushi is great while still high quality. Get there early or when the first dinner rush clears.

was looking for a great sushi place and didn’t wanna spend my paycheck. Yoko’s had awesome reviews here on Google …. but also in a ton of other places … and the prices looked great + i love the fact that is been owned by the same woman for 30+ years - so I get to feel good about supporting local businesses. In the end though … it’s still all about food and it definitely did not disappoint. Great quality, everything was fresh, great portion size. We will definitely be back.

Cozy place. The space can get loud with all the people talking and the rock music playing in the background. Good selection of sushi rolls. If you sit by the bar, it’s fund to watch the colorful place being served. Will definitely come back for more.

This is our favorite sushi in all of Portland. Yoko, Jim, Greg, Rob and the whole team are incredible- so kind, and skilled. Well worth the wait. Our favorites are: salmon chili crunch, unagi nigiri is the BEST, takas tuna, tamago, yokos special roll, lotus special (when they have it on specials), and we always have a bottle of nigiri. This restaurant is so special we come here for celebrations and regular weekday meals. We wanted to be the 500th review, we love you guys!

We have enjoyed Yoko's sushi for almost 20 years. The fish is always fresh, and the combinations are delicious. We love Taka's Tuna, Hamachi nigiri, Thai roll and Samon nigiri. I recommend arriving early, sitting at the sushi bar and watching Yoko work. Try some of the affordable sakes available. We've enjoyed every one we tried.

Great food, would visit again. Toro roll was my favourite!
Gary N — Google review
Yoko's has been a long standing Portland Sushi restaurant with a reputation of quality sushi at a fair price. It is one of my friend's favorite sushi spots in town and it just might be yours soon too. The restaurant is nestled in a vibrant SE Portland neighborhood close to Reed College, my Alma Mater. Parking can be found on the side streets in the local neighborhood or if you're lucky right in front on the street. Just note, there is no take out and it is a first come first serve restaurant. I recommend getting there early else you'll be on the wait list for the table to turn over. The shop itself is fairly small. There is the landmark aquarium at the entrance, it's been there since I first went here 20 yrs ago, with a few seats for those waiting their turn. Yoko herself is usually found working behind the sushi counter so grab a seat there if you want a special experience. Her take on sushi is a fusion of traditional and PDX ingenuity. The food here is fresh and absolutely delicious. I usually go for the Chirashi bowl but there are many other great special sushi rolls and items that are worth trying. Make sure to check out the Specials board at the entrance to see what's in season. You'll not be disappointed. Overall prices here are fair and service is good. If you are ever on the lookout for trying a new sushi place make sure to stop in and try Yoko's.

Nimblefish is a warm and inviting Japanese restaurant in Portland, offering a refined sushi experience with a focus on nigiri and omakase menus. The chef, Cody Auger, emphasizes the use of impeccably fresh fish and seafood without any overpowering flavors. The menu features traditional favorites like tako, maguro, and hotate, as well as hand rolls filled with high-quality ingredients.
Absolutely incredible experience! This was the best sushi I've ever had. Every piece was prepared with care and attention to detail. It was fresh and each piece was better than the piece before. Our chef was so funny and kind. He told us all about every piece of fish and even some other cool places to check out in Portland. I would eat here weekly if I had unlimited funds, it was that good. I can't wait to go back for another special occasion.
Jenny F — Google review
Nimblefish, in the heart of Portland, Oregon, is a place where the sea speaks clearly and kindly through rice, vinegar, and immaculate knife work. I have eaten sushi in a few fine establishments, in cities that glitter and in alleyways that hum, and while this may not be the single greatest omakase of my life, it sits among the saints. There were seven of us, and we occupied nearly the whole of the sushi bar. It felt conspiratorial, reverent. We were pilgrims and the altar was hip-high and lacquered. From the first starter to the final spoonful of sorbet, the experience unfolded with the precision of a pocket watch and the warmth of a handwritten letter. The chef, a man who treats fish with the seriousness most reserve for funerals or first love, spoke to us not just of what we were eating but why. This fish came from Hokkaido. That one from the California coast. The trout, rainbow and shimmering, was a particular surprise, new to me, and now unforgettable. Another chef talked about his rice like a poet would talk about meter. The host, too, guided us gently through the meal with enthusiasm and knowledge, like a teacher who remembers what it's like to be young and curious. The structure of the meal was intelligent and satisfying. Thirteen bites of sushi, each different, each deliberate. Soup that quieted the mind. Egg custard that felt like an apology from the universe for all the things that have gone wrong. The sorbet was a gentle goodbye, a kiss on the forehead. The whiskey and sake list is the kind of thing that could cause trouble in the best possible way. We tasted a few and they were each better than the last, the way good short stories are. If you find yourself there, let yourself be led. Trust them. It took two hours and not a second of it dragged. We laughed and whispered and stared up at our planks like children watching snow fall. The bill, at around $165 per person, felt less like a transaction and more like a tithe. If you're interested, and you should be, book ahead. There are few seats and many seekers. Nimblefish is not just a restaurant. It is a gentle argument for precision, quality and beauty in a world that too often forgets to offer any.
Gerald P — Google review
Such good things to say about this place! The price, first of all, pretty decent for an omakase considering the amount and quality of the pieces/dishes. I've been a couple times now and every chef I've had has been amazing, both in service and in knowledge on each and every dish (they'll tell you about where it's from, different names, and anything else you'd want to know). It's really nice getting to sit and watch them create each dish with care and you can tell how much work and expertise goes into each serving. I cannot reccomend this place enough. Best sushi I've had in Portland (one of the few good places I've found actually)
Nicolle N — Google review
What a lovely omakase experience at Nimblefish! I arrived a bit early for my reservation and was waiting for the previous group to finish up. I was quickly seated and chatted with the chef for the evening. As someone who has had omakase a handful of times in New York, it was a unique experience trying different cuts of fish I hadn't heard of or even tried back home. The atmosphere was relaxing yet chatty, as we had small conversations between the chef, myself, and the couple next to me. I would recommend others check out Thank you to the staff member who wrote me down the names for the different cuts of fish we had for the night. Nimblefish and the other omakase spots in Portland! (Hopefully I've labeled everything correctly!)

I had some of the most incredible bites of food I’ve ever experienced in my life!!! This place was amazing. There is very limited seating so it feels really intimate. The chefs were incredibly talented and it was so cool to see them make each piece right in front of you! The servers were kind and experienced. The sake list was WOW amazing. Great place for a date night if you’re wanting to try something new! But be warned - it will ruin all other sushi for you 😭
JL E — Google review
Fantastic setting with a wood sushi bar and well considered decor. The nigiri themselves were great. I liked that the selection featured a lot of more subtle fish and that there wasn't a focus on things like toro with caviar and there was no salmon. Each piece of nigiri was composed of a lightly packed mound of rice which was delightful. The fish was all tasty. I liked the young amberjack fish and it was fun to have some pieces that were more lean and bouncy, and then more fatty pieces that were melty. The toppings always allowed the fish to shine. For the miso soup, I want to know what tofu they are using as it was creamy rather than just kind of jelly. This kind of quality and service for 12 pieces feels like a bargain for $125. It's a great value and I respect the focus on more traditional and subtle fish.
Bob L — Google review
My lovely bf surprised me with an omakase reservation and it did not disappoint :) high quality and tasty courses! I love the intimate atmosphere and our server was accommodating and kind, she was helpful and reminded me of my sister 🩷 pricing was not bad at all compared to other omakase spots ive seen. After the chef choice courses we done we were only at about $60 a person. So we ordered a few more, The waygu and smoked salmon were our favorites.
Nikki T — Google review
My wife and I had such an incredible experience here. The sushi was by far, the best we've ever had outside of Japan, and the attention to detail with each piece was outstanding. Our chef built so many unique flavors into each and every bite, that we couldn't stop ordering. He was so great at explaining each piece; where the fish was from, what he brined it with, and even how long he'd worked on perfecting that specific piece. If you're looking for an intimate sushi experience that is about as close as you can get to the real thing, then Nimblefish is the place to go. *10/10*

Wow! Excellent sushi and love the interior vibe which is light woods and recently remodeled. Do not be fooled by the exterior. Worth the drive as it’s in SW Portland. We started with miso and then shared the sashimi and two rolls. My favorite was the Hanabi roll and my daughter loved the King Dragon roll which was surprisingly a bit spicy. Look forward to returning.

After a remodel, this place has become more upscale. Yet the food is consistently good. It’s close by and an easy place to go without reservations. You can either sit at the sushi bar or TV monitor. They also have tables with high backs that allow lots of privacy. The udon and Ramen are always tasty. Sushi is good and a popular favorite.

Delicious and fresh sushi with great presentation! I ordered the tuna nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, tempura, and seaweed salad. Everything tasted extremely fresh and flavorful but the nigiri stood out. The ratio of tuna to rice was very generous and the fish tasted very buttery and luxurious. It made me want to order more but I was too full. Also, appreciated that they put wasabi under the fish the traditional way. The restaurant itself was very pretty and felt very clean. Near closing, almost every surface was meticulously sanitized. Each dish, even the matcha ice cream, which wasn’t too sweet, was served in beautiful pottery. This is one of my favorite restaurants and I couldn’t recommend it more! I can’t see anyone being disappointed!

The casual eatery features a circular sushi bar where customers can watch the preparation of traditional sushi, rolls, and sashimi. The menu offers a variety of options at very reasonable prices, making it easy to sample different dishes. One popular choice is the Spider roll, which combines crispy tempura-battered soft shell crab with avocado and cucumber.
This is a fun place to visit for sushi that comes to you on a train! You can also order ala-carte as well from a menu. Their food is good quality and has good prices. Don’t be shy to ask what something is, or ask for advice! They’re super friendly!

The area is a bit sketchy, but we came by when the area was enveloped in the starlight parade. Was immediately greeted by a staff member who was highly motivated, but he was the only one. The remaining staff seemed as if they did want to be there. The food, however, was very good and we struggled through sticky counters and spotty service to enjoy decent sushi. Hard to say if we'll return, but if you're in the area, might be a good stop when you're craving sushi.

Dope sushi joint with friendly people and a cute sushi track with toy train. I eat here alone on break and staff is always very kind to me. Delicious rolls, the salmon is the best in the city imo (if you account for flavor) and the presentation of each roll punches well above. They also serve ramen though I've yet to try it, it looked lovely. I'm in love with their spicy tuna too. Satisfying heat and plenty of fish. I will be a regular customer for sure.

Unsure if it was the owner or manager (the man with the red hat) who greeted us, but their hospitality was exceptional. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious. I first visited this location back in 2008 or 9. It was an amazing experience then, and it still is one of my favorite Sushi experiences anywhere in the country. I absolutely love the atmosphere, the staff is incredibly attentive and very eager to help and assist. The sushi was absolutely delicious and by goodness those prices! Me and my partner were able to practically stuff ourselves for $30. Can't wait to come back again, hopefully it doesn't take another 18 years before I can visit again.

Amazing quality for conveyor belt, the nigiri portions are hearty and the variety is always popping. The staff are great and super attentive too! Tonight the manager saw me grab a slice of cake and brought me a fork before I even realized I needed it 😂 I’ve also noticed very little turnover in the staff in the few years I’ve been going, so they must treat their people decent too! 10/10 would recommend, this is one of my husband and is favorite spots to bring guests! First time here, everything was great. I love the Uni, I ordered it twice 😋 Akimo no smell at all. The lobster bake rolls were a bit too greasy for me, a lot of mayonnaise sauce. White fish carpaccio was delicious too. After swallowing, the sesame fragrance lingers in the mouth.

A nice combination of the classics with a unique twist of its own. Fish was very fresh, rolls delicious, and service very friendly. The ambiance is very inviting - urban cool with warm touches. One thing to note. Google maps offers a Reservation option via Open Table but it always says that there are no tables. That is not accurate, the restaurant currently doesn't take reservations, that is why OpenTable never comes up with an opening.

The hostess and overall feel of the restaurant was very nice and spoke of an elegant sushi restaurant! Unfortunately that was the extent of the good experience we felt, even for a Saturday night, the waitress only came by twice, once for the drinks, and once to bring our food. My wife and I got the sashimi deluxe and while most of the fish was great, unfortunately the salmon was cut from the tail end and the texture just made it inedible. I don’t think we’ll be visiting again if we visit the area

I could taste the quality. Great for a classy date! 10/10 , gold medal, 100% win rate. (We got the Ahi tower, the monkey roll, the tuna-vo and the sashimi salad, with a side of edamame.) oh and the bottle of Joto.)

The sushi here is always top notch, super fresh and delicious. Get the salmon sampler and the ahi tuna tower! All the rolls are great, and even their hot house saki was decent..they were out of more than half of the Japanese whiskies on their menu, so that was a bummer. They forgot our miso soup too. Even so, what we did have was really great and I will keep going back.

Yama Sushi & Izakaya delivers a top-tier sushi experience in the heart of Portland. I ordered the smoked salmon nigiri, king salmon nigiri, seared salmon nigiri with tobiko on top, tamago nigiri, and tobiko nigiri, and every single piece was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully crafted. The seared salmon with tobiko was especially outstanding, with a perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture and a rich, smoky finish. The tamago had a delicate sweetness, and the tobiko brought a fun crunch and burst of flavor. A must-visit for sushi lovers looking for authentic quality and elegant presentation. Highly recommended!

As a native Houstonian, we decided to choose the sashimi omakase especially since we are in the pacific north west and despite the 30 minute wait time. However, it appears that they don’t seem to take the same level of priority over the omakase as they do in Seattle, Houston, LA and NY. The two things that threw me off the most was the scallop, as well as the texture you get with the salmon as it appears that the cut of the salmon was wrong. Side note, our waitress only showing up twice and slightly mentioned that they have better cuts of salmon in the menu for next time.

Bluefin Tuna & Sushi offers a variety of multi-course dinner options at affordable prices, including the Bluefin Special which includes miso soup, ceviche salad, temari nigiri and hosomaki box, and tempura prawns and vegetables. The sashimi board is filled with fresh, high-quality fish. Each dish is a masterpiece bursting with sensational flavors. The service ensures an unforgettable journey through the world of sushi. The Sake Temaki is recommended for salmon lovers.
The flavors of this restaurant are extraordinary. The fish was fresh can I explain each option to you. The presentation was amazing along with the colors in flavors. I did the blue fin tuna sampler B, and it comes with the soup and a salad that has amazing fresh fish in it along with edamame and prawns for dessert. I decided to try some sake for the server suggestion and the flavors match beautifully to my dinner. I would definitely recommend this place. No wait on a Tuesday evening.

The food was all fresh and excellently prepared. Service was also excellent. Finally, the space was comfortable, bright, spacious, and attractive. I'll let the pictures do the talking about the food. It was all good. Though, the least favorite item was the sushi roll. Maybe too much going on there. Simpler items shined brightly! Highly recommend this if you're looking for high quality and good value. (Not cheap, but reasonable for the level of quality and the overall experience.)

I give it 4 stars because the food carries more weight in my view. The service was a bit of a disappointment. Friendly, yes, but when they ask me if I want a second beer halfway through my meal and then bring it to me almost 15 minutes later after my dishes have already been cleared away, I don’t think that is very good service. I didn’t want my beer for dessert, I wanted it with my meal. Would I return? For me, that is always the bottom line. I’ll say yes. I’ll just know from now on to order the second bees when I’m halfway through the first. The food was very good. Just shy of excellent, but still very good. This was the happy hour special. These dishes were all $6 except for one which was $7.

I'm a Washington resident but I'm making this a go-to when I come up here. I've tried a lot of sushi restaurants but this one REALLY stands out. Their fish was so fresh, the presentation was super cute and their batter and oil tasted so clean. Server was really sweet and helpful. You definitely get what you pay for!

I can’t believe this place exists. Wow. Portland is so lucky. Incredible, high quality sushi with prices that make no sense. Hana is an angel and made me feel at home. I’ve heard high praise about both the food and service and it still blew my mind. Really grateful to have a place like Blue Fin in Portland. Will 100% be a regular here.

Best happy hour in town. Seriously you get some amazing sushi and appetizer and drink for an incredible price! The service is fast and the staff is so nice.
JL E — Google review
Do not order the Salmon salad, it tasted like the green equivalent of Tylenol. I’m not sure what was in the sauce they used but the bitterness and strong tangy flavor left in your mouth made every bite worse. Do not order it. The rest of the dishes were pretty good, but the disappointment from the salad ruined the experience.

I’ve been coming here for years. Hands down the best sushi in the area, maybe the entire PNW. Every time I try a new sushi spot it’s a huge let down knowing I could have gone to Bluefin Tuna and Sushi. They have all the unique menu items; toro, uni, you name it. Always fresh and always a fair price. Simon the bartender and Hannah the owner are passionate about quality service and quality food. Don’t waste your money getting sushi anywhere else.

Kashiwagi is a Japanese restaurant in Portland, Oregon that offers excellent service, food, and atmosphere. The ambiance is refreshing with no typical pop radio playing. The menu features dishes like agedashi with crispy and creamy texture, flavorful sauce, hot and tasty karaage, and top-notch nigiri. The food captures the homemade Japanese taste with very fresh fish and exceptional quality. The staff is responsive, well-mannered, and welcoming.
Amazing service. Everyone is so kind and helpful!! Sushi is incredible. Smaller seating area if you plan on dining in, so if it's busy, expect a tight area. But apart from that, it's a great sushi place!! Our go-to spot for sushi, given its overall quality-to-price ratio 10/10 🙏🏼

Excellent sushi. Fresh. Well made. Place is small but wait time was actually quite reasonable. Prices are very reasonable. We got handrolls, karaage chicken, bunch of nigiris. Also I recc to Get the plum wine

My fave sushi place in Portland! Really great prices for fresh and tasty rolls. The lunch combo is an amazing deal—large and generous portions (we both got combo C). Feels very homey and family owned. I like the art on the walls (jazz album covers) and the hand drawn menu signs. すごく美味しかった! 🍣🥢

Probably my favorite sushi spot so far in Portland. Lovely service! I got the Poke Don and partner got the Salmon Special, both were delicious and big portions! Definitely more of a home style mom n’ pop rather than most of the “fancier” spots in the city.

Genuinely great spot. The food is fantastic, and the portion sizes for the sushi rolls are extremely generous for the price (about $6 for a roll). Service was lovely and fast, and the vibe inside is welcoming and has a perfect casual atmosphere. Will be coming back ASAP and bragging to all my friends that I know a better sushi place than they do

I CANNOT stop thinking about the pickled mackerel. It’s so good!!! Really enjoyed everything else we ordered but that was definitely the stand out. We steered with miso soup, takoyaki, and Agedashi tofu! Then got sashimi plate and the pickled mackerel. Everything was great and I can’t wait to come back again!!

Best deal on sushi in the west coast and Good quality! This place is both a gem and a hole in the wall. If you’re happy paying half of what you’ll pay at a fancy place for the same quality food, but sitting next to a plaid pantry and a smelly dumpster, this place is for you. Lunch deals are excellent! A good number of patio seats and a small indoor seating area. Seems like a family business where the owners are cooking and waiting tables. Highly recommended. We normally order take out. But the patio was nice today.

Excellent Japanese soul food in a cozy and homey atmosphere! Delicious appetizers, sushi, saki, and beer. Impeccable service, great prices, and good vinyl background music to set the mood. The Kashiwagi family delivers a lovely and down to earth dining experience that satiates and leaves you with a smile.

Restaurant
Yama Sushi & Sake Bar is a trendy spot known for its innovative sushi rolls, classic Japanese dishes, and an extensive selection of sake. Renowned for its expertise and passion for Japanese cuisine, it has earned a reputation as one of the top sushi bars in Oregon. The menu features fresh delicacies sourced from the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, as well as the Sea of Japan, meticulously prepared by skilled chefs.
Good sushi, salmon roll rice was too thick and somewhat hard. I had better sushi at Yama sushi previously. Tuna tower is highly recommended. Toro tuna was my favorite amongst the 3 different items in the sampler (salmon and yellowtail)

My friend and I ordered the Chirashi sushi, baked lobster roll, and sweet shrimp. While the baked lobster roll and sweet shrimp were passable, the Chirashi sushi unfortunately resulted in severe gastrointestinal distress for both of us -- including intense diarrhea and stomach pain that persisted into the following morning. Concerned that something may have been off -- particularly the escolar, which seemed questionable -- I reached out to the restaurant. Unfortunately, the staff showed little interest in my concerns and hung up on me. This experience was especially disappointing, as I had been a regular customer and had never encountered issues here before. Needless to say, I won't be going back.

Yama Sushi & Sake Bar — A Must-Visit Sushi Spot in Portland! We had an amazing lunch here today and everything about the experience was spot-on. Let’s start with the food — every piece of sushi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. • Uni Gunkan (Sea Urchin Sushi): Creamy, sweet, and melts in your mouth. The freshness was top-tier — no fishy taste, just pure ocean goodness. • Salmon & Red Tuna Nigiri: Perfectly sliced and served at the right temperature. You can tell they take care in how they handle their fish. • Fatty Tuna & Yellowtail Nigiri: Rich and buttery — legit melt-in-your-mouth texture. A real treat! • Signature Sushi Rolls: We tried the Yama Roll — loaded with eel, shrimp tempura, avocado, and topped with tobiko. Flavor bomb! • And of course, everything paired beautifully with a cold Asahi beer 🍺 The ambience was cozy but classy, and sitting at the counter gave us a front-row seat to the chefs preparing everything with precision and care. Staff were friendly and welcoming too! Prices were very reasonable for the quality, and guess what? No sales tax in Portland! 🙌 That alone made me extra happy — high quality without the usual sting of tax. Highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Portland and craving premium sushi in a relaxed setting. Would definitely come back next time 💕

It is a smaller restaurant with many fresh offerings. The hamachi yuzu roll and Waikiki rolls were the two favorites this trip, but basically everything on the menu sounds good. They have a small list of appetizers and salads, endless nigiri and sashimi options, and daily specials. On nice days, they have a ton of sidewalk seating as well. Highly recomend.

A friend asked to meet there; I usually only eat sushi at Bamboo (I know!) but thought I'd give it a shot. It was lovely! I had the fish soup and my partner had the sizzling beef. My mom has sizzling veggies. I wish I hadn't been full at the end because I really wanted to try the foie gras 🤤 It's a great place if some of you want sushi and some want cooked food.

When Judgment Replaces Hospitality On June 14, 2025, I decided to go eat at the Yama Sushi & Sake Bar restaurant at the foot of my building with a friend who had just arrived from Europe. I’m almost a regular there, as I’ve been ordering takeout about once a month for the past two years. The waitresses greeted us and seated us quickly. When it came time to order, my friend and I wanted to have two beers. The waitress told me she wouldn’t serve my friend because, according to her, he was already intoxicated. Surprised by this comment, I asked her what made her think that. She gestured that he strongly smelled of alcohol. I explained to her that he hadn’t had anything to drink all day. The waitress insisted. Shocked, we decided to leave. I was outraged by this attitude, which seemed more like profiling than a genuine concern for someone’s health. It’s shameful to label someone as drunk based on a hypothetical assumption. Being welcomed, seated, and then refused service like that is just strange. What’s even more absurd is that the restaurant is filled with a nauseating smell of cold fish — it spreads onto the sidewalk and even inside my building. That’s actually why I’ve always ordered takeout instead. I’ve seen their kitchen, which opens directly onto the trash room of my building. If the health department ever came by, I’m pretty sure it would cause a scene. In short, the waitress’s inappropriate, judgmental, and insulting behavior opened my eyes to the values of this restaurant. I won’t be going back. Besides, there are far better Asian restaurants in Portland.
David B — Google review
This place used to be amazing but has really fallen to the bottom of my list for sushi in Portland. Prices are quite high for the lack of quality. The seaweed they’re wrapping the sushi with is chewy and both of us choked on it multiple times while trying to eat our rolls. The hot tea had no flavor and generally the atmosphere is not fantastic with mariachi music playing behind the sushi bar. Four chewy rolls, some flavorless tea and a tiny bowl of miso was 100 bucks. We won’t be coming back. I think we’ll go to bamboo next time.
Kris K — Google review
This is my favorite sushi place in Portland, hands down. They have some really yummy and unique sushi as well as some other hot and cold entrees that are excellent. It's also located in the Pearl District and close to lots of shops and the waterfront Park. A must try!

AFURI IZAKAYA SE PORTLAND is a Tokyo-based eatery that found its home in Portland in 2016. The restaurant attributes its choice of location to the city's water quality, which closely resembles that of Japan, and the abundance of local farms and producers. This combination allows them to create top-notch ramen and Japanese dishes.
This spot never disappoints! The drinks are packed with flavor, refreshing, and made with fresh ingredients. I love the variety on the menu—there’s always something new to try, and everything tastes amazing. The ramen is rich and comforting, and the appetizers are just as good—perfect for sharing or starting a meal. The service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is bright and welcoming. A perfect place to grab a treat, enjoy a bowl of ramen, or relax with friends. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food, great drinks, and great vibes!

I first went to afuri when it was located in old town close to voodoo donuts back in August and October and it was amazing I couldn't stop gushing about it. When I visited Portland afuri was the first place I was gonna stop by. To my surprise it no longer was located there so I went to the new location and I wanted to order the same thing I got last time and I showed the server the picture on the left and she said that they no longer had certain things. I notice the menu was very different and she confirmed that the menu has changed. I definitely noticed a difference in the food. The flavor wasn't there anymore. I definitely saw a change. I was very sad about it because to me this was the best ramen I had ever tasted now the flavor and spice is not there anymore. I have 2 pictures from when I was in afuri. one (left) is from October and the other was just this week and the difference is very evident followed by the flavor. Even the spicy paste was very different. I wish the quality and taste was the same as last time. I'm very optimistic and I'll stop by again next time I come to Portland.

We came here on Saturday during lunch, and the restaurant wasn’t very busy. When we arrived, it seemed like there were more employees than customers. By the time we finished, most of the staff were just hanging out and chatting since there wasn’t much to do. The food was very good, but I thought the portion was a bit small. I even joked that maybe it was because it’s Japanese—but Japanese ramen portions are usually bigger than people might expect. We were two native Japanese and one American.

Every time we come to Portland, we have to eat here (make reservations at least a week ahead!) The ramen REALLY tastes like in Japan. No other ramen places do it right. The texture, the broth, the flavor. The quality is spot on. Only thing is, it is pricey and the girls at the front are not friendly. (The server was nicer but right after seating us, she told us we only had a certain amount of time to eat.) It's a busy place, sure, so we try not to mind as we just go there for the food... The yuzu ramen is my favorite. Love the yuzu sparkling too. We've had the chirashi, the tartare, and other ramen before. Everything is delicious. Definitely not a place to chit chat (it's loud anyway - save that for a dessert place afterwards).

All the staff were great- pleasant, attentive, well put together. Our server Josh was SPECTACULAR and is the sole reason I am writing this review, tonight being my 3rd visit over a 2 year period. You know the food is gonna be good, but the stellar service provided by Josh really hit this one out of the ballpark and made an enjoyable evening out even that much better. Josh, if you see this, you are excellent at what you do- keep up the fantastic work! Any establishment would be incredibly lucky to have you on their team!!

If you’re looking for fine Japanese food experience, then give it a try. Else, look the other way. The sashimis are not worth the price. But the yuzu ramen soup does taste good.

Love this creative Japanese restaurant, tough to find a parking spot around this neighborhood but totally worth the visit for sure. Love this place. Probably the best sushi in the neighborhood, fresh sushi, good service, really convenient. Decently priced and good indoor/outdoor seating. Love all the wooden booths inside and the big windows. Looking forward to trying more things on the menu!

My family who lives in town swore by this place but they hadn’t been in years. We went tonight and it’s just not worth the trip. The salmon didn’t taste or smell fresh. They have a really small sushi menu. They got one of the rolls wrong on the protein and the server wasn’t attentive. There was a very sweet older lady who greeted us so for her warm welcome I’m giving 3 instead of 2 stars.
Michael D — Google review
We came here for our anniversary. And had great servers that were very friendly. There was plenty of room for us when we arrived at almost 9 PM on a Thursday night. I talked to the sushi person and she was very honest about what sushi was very fresh and which ones were just pretty fresh. We ended up ordering Tako-Yaki, spicy salmon roll, Big Eye Tuna sashimi (was the freshest and most $$), salmon nigiri, a few hand rolls and a wonderful broth-less thick Ramen bowl. The broth-less ramen was the real stand out for the evening. I highly recommend trying it as the noodles were coated in a unique thick, delicious broth with a soft boiled egg and yummy charshu pork. It is called Kama-tama Ramen and is $16 for a good sized bowl or $24 for a large bowl. One drawback, besides not having great sushi or much of a sushi selection, are the prices. We spent $115. for two folks sharing enough food to fill us and one tall can of Kirin - including tip.

Takoyaki, chicken curry, and sushi were all delicious! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back for more. They have happy hour too. 🙂

The quality of sushi is so poor, it was embarrassing. The fish was okay, fresh. but the prep & taste was awful. It’s hard to imagine bad quality, tasteless rice in a contemporary Japanese restaurant, but they did manage to deliver tasteless rice. I ordered several rolls, including most popular ones and hand roles. Hand roles were just tubes of said rice rolled in dry nori with laughably small and unsavoury filling. It looked like they were rolled by a grandma who hasn’t tried a sushi hand roll before and went literally by its name. On positive note, the staff was super friendly and attentive. Beer was served in an ice chilled mug. Customers who ordered ramens seemed to enjoy their meals. But myself I came for sushi into a sushi joint & it was a culinary sad & tasteless experience all around.

Low key izakaya with authentically funky decor and a very casual vibe. We love the chicken karaage, spicy tuna and mackerel. Beer, wine and cocktail options, booth, table or counter seating and very good service. One of my faves on the PDX izakaya circuit.
Andrew C — Google review
Our favorite thing here was the cold noodles. Definitely the most delicious thing we had. Everything else was pretty much average. Nice staff and atmosphere. Would probably go again if I was in the area to try other things and see if it could get the rating higher for me. But probably wouldn't seek it out on my own.
Nancy X — Google review
The overall atmosphere saved it from being a one star review. If I could put 0 stars for the service then I would. The servers ignored our table even though there were only two other occupied tables in the whole restaurant. Even after many attempts of making eye contact and waving them down, they would continue to avoid us. Portions are very small despite the high prices. The food was ok but nothing special worth coming back for. Definitely skip this one

The fish was so fresh and good quality and the preparation was excellent. The portion sizes were bigger than expected and ratio of fish to rice was great, no skimping on the fish. The spicy scallop nigiri was so good I'm going to have to come back just for that. Service was great.

My personal #1 spot to get sushi when me and friends want a great treat. I love sitting outside after dark with the fireplaces, especially if it's raining a little! The Jalapeño ninjas are the best, even my mom enjoyed them. Wonderful sushi as well. Had the Miyamoto and the black tiger rolls. Our server was delightful as well. The green tea mochi rolls were very tasty.

Miyamoto was AMAZING. Service was amazing and workers were nice but the atmosphere was amazing. I ordered a California roll and a spider roll, and let me tell you. The California roll was so creamy and crispy while the spider roll was the same but also tangy. Then I had ordered a Devil’s Crete. It was even better, spicy mayo, fish, seaweed and other things made it Perfect. Always choose this place.

Very easy to miss. Real hole in the wall next to Roscoe’s. But place was packed so I guess the word is out. Sushi was excellent and a good draft beer selection that comes from said Roscoe’s. Some kind of beer share arrangement. We went at 5 and got a seat but it fills up fast so don’t be surprised if there’s a wait. Outside seating is at picnic tables in covered space. Really great Montavilla option. My friend is a vegetarian and had no trouble finding plenty of options.

The restaurant provides an intimate dining experience with limited seating and a cozy atmosphere.
Such a great spot for authentic sushi. The service was truly outstanding. The selection of fish is somewhat limited but the quality is very good. By far the best sushi I’ve ever had in the greater Portland metro area. We came for my wife’s birthday and everything we had was phenomenal. Just look at these pictures… this place is a MUST if you enjoy sushi. Service was friendly and fast. The place a little small so make a reservation.

You can definitely dine here between $50-100 per person here but the fish is so fresh and high quality we wanted to treat ourselves to uni two different ways abd ikura as well. We did salmon sashimi, sashimi platter, shrimp tempura, Romeo and Juliette roll, ebi/scallop/uni, as well as single serve spoons of ikura and uni/real crab. The food was fantastic. The service is excellent/friendly and very attentive. It is a charming small location so I would recommend making reservations. It was busy on a week day! I will definitely be back here again.

I drove all the way from Seattle to Portland just for this sashimi—totally worth it! Their sashimi is insanely fresh and very high quality, every slice is cut just right, and you can really taste the chef’s dedication and commitment to quality. Whether it’s the uni, tuna, scallops, or sweet shrimp, every bite is mind-blowing, melts in your mouth, and bursts with ocean flavor. It’s not just about the ingredients here, the presentation is on point too, making your mouth water the second you see it. If you’re a raw foodie like me, this place is a must-try. Can’t wait to go back!🍣🥢

My husband and I came here last night for my birthday. I’ve been eyeing Yuubi Sushi for a while now but it’s a small spot so definitely a place you need a reservation for. It doesn’t seem like the place you can just show up and expect a table - we made reservations online about 2 weeks in advance to secure the time we wanted. All I can say is Wow… everything was AMAZING. We ordered a variety of nigiri and there was not a single bite we didn’t fall in love with. Everything was fresh, delicious and fast! I think our first round of sushi hit our table within 3 min of ordering. The servers were really nice and quick to make sure any empty plates were quickly removed from the table to keep the fish flowing. Everything was amazing and while this restaurant is not cheap, I do believe everything was appropriately priced for the quality you get. This is definitely our new favorite place for high quality sushi. We will be back! Hats off to the chefs and staff.

Got lucky and stumbled across this gem. This is some of the best sushi I have ever had! I tried the California and San Francisco rolls. The California roll was delish and the San Francisco roll blew my mind. The dry-aged bluefin tuna was exceptional. Wonderful taste that melted in my mouth. I will be back to try more of their deliciousness. Recommend make a reservation!

Recommend making a reservation here in advance! This is hands down our favorite sushi place near Portland. It’s in Beaverton, but it’s always worth the drive! Every time we come here, we order so much that I am pretty sure they remember us as the couple who always orders a lot! The fish is high quality and tastes so good!! They use real wasabi too!! I get the Ankimo every time and my partner always gets the omakase. I like trying their uni and wagyu dishes too. I also like that they are always switching things up and adding new things to the menu from time to time, it gives us new things to try every time we come in! Literally can’t go wrong with anything, it all tastes so good! You can sense that they have real dedication to the craft! We also love that the amaebi comes with fried shrimp heads and wasabi salt too! The wasabi salt goes really good with them. The inside dining area is fairly small, so it can fill up and get crowded or loud and rowdy easily, but honestly the food is so good that most of the time I don’t notice. Highly recommend if you love high quality sushi!!

Fish & Rice is a stylish counter-serve spot located in NW 23rd, Portland. The ambiance is understated and the interiors are minimalistic with plenty of natural light. It's a favorite sushi place for many, offering amazing food including fresh and flavorful fish, sashimi, and sake. The menu features delicious rolls like the spam roll and popular bowls such as the scallop bowl and chirashi bowl.
Best Sushi I've had (fresh)! The owner is super sweet and explained where in Japan he sourced the sake we tried.

Sweet and homey spot! Opens at noon and was busy right away. Lovely aesthetic with charming touches. They have a whole menu of specials that will definitely entice me to return, though I mostly just wanted to come back to try the salmon bowl I watched my dining companion eat. The prices range from reasonable to indulgent splurge. Really nice to see shiso and other harder-to-find elements.

I had the tuna bowl and it was so fresh. Fish and Rice had a great selection of seafood and the quality is very good. My friend had the chirashi and it also looked fantastic. Staff is very friendly and cute corgis are a big bonus!

I used to visit this restaurant years ago, and it was so good! Then they moved...then they moved back! And I stopped by today, after quite a long absence since it isn't really in my neighborhood...and they changed up the whole menu! They have a bunch of delicious bowls, and fun tasting plates, and still have amazing flavors. The bowls even have a brown rice option! My husband and I both got the spicy bowl. It was excellent! We will be putting this place in our regular routine now that it is pretty close to both of our respective workplaces. It's a great brunch place, and an awesome after work date spot. Also everything is very cute, and dog themed, and the staff is amazing. Highly recommend!

What can I say except that this is my perfect sushi place. More accurately, this is my perfect neighborhood spot. The service is great and I have loved getting to know the folks who make Fish & Rice what it is. The atmosphere is awesome - it's very relaxed and it caters to all who fit the easy going vibe. To top it all off, the food is immaculate. Clean flavors, incredible fish, simple - easy - tasty. 10/10

Incredible food. The steamed dumplings were bite sized and tasty and the oyster topped with shrimp and crab was so fresh it melted in my mouth. I never thought rice could taste this good, it was amazing and it's just rice.

I had the spicy poké bowl- fish was very fresh and overall bowl well made - delicious. My friends sushi roll was also great and fresh. The site is small but very cute, great for a quick pop in w/ 1 or 2 friends. Will definitely return.

Delicious and beautifully crafter bowls and appetizers. Everything we got was delicious and very fresh. This is now my 3rd time at this location since they first open and it is a must stop. Portions are a perfect size, the service is amazing and friendly, and the atmosphere is calming with modern cafe vibes, and a little bit of corgi quirkiness. Loved the corgi accents around the place. We will definitely be back again soon!

Kaizen Sushi PDX is a relatively new addition to the Old Town dining scene, brought to life by brothers Nicolas and Job Martinez, who have over 25 years of experience in Portland's sushi scene. The restaurant offers a unique experience with a rotating selection of nigiri and sashimi sourced directly from Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market.
Delicious sushi and not too crowded or crazy expensive! We loved our meal. The rolls were delicious and the salmon belly was divine. Super cute spot with an upscale vibe and good drinks/wine. Staff was super nice and we just loved the experience! Very quiet and easy to get a reservation.

Shout out to Chef Carlos and Chef Alex for the great meal and killer sushi! I had the sushi counter all to myself and enjoyed watching the chefs utilize their skills and put out awesome food. They had nigiri specials with fish flown in that day from Japan. I found it impressive that they were already featured in Eater as a must try in Old Town with the relative short time they’ve been open. With this success I don’t doubt they’ll be around for a while.

Seafood was really fresh and very great flavors. We order oysters as an appetizer, absolutely amazing. Highly recommend. We ordered Albacore, Keep Portland Weird, and Sunshine rolls. All very good.

Amazing Sushi! My wife and I sat at the Sushi bar while we dined at Kaizen, and it was excellent. A very calm, welcoming environment. The Sushi was outstanding, so good! We have a mixed of rolls and all were fantastic. Restaurant was very clear, and staff were awesome! Will definitely be back

The best veggie sushi I have ever had! It had so much flavor. The garden is a must try. The presentation was phenomenal as well. Our server, Jordan, was also very knowledgeable and sweet. I’m glad we were able to visit this place!

Fantastic spot! The service was friendly and attentive from start to finish, and the food was top-notch; fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was modern but still relaxed, making it a great place to enjoy sushi without feeling rushed. We went in during the late afternoon, so it was pretty quiet, which made the experience even better. Definitely a place I’d recommend and plan to come back to!

I absolutely love Kaizen! Whenever my mom is in town we make a point to go. I’ve taken friends and family here and it has been so good every time! They have a great selection of fresh fish for nigiri and lots of delicious rolls and appetizers! They also have a nice list of sake. We did their omakase to celebrate my graduation and it was such a wonderful experience! I don’t spend a lot of time in southwest Portland but it’s definitely worth the trip!

Mio Sushi is a regional Japanese chain known for its creative sushi and hot dishes served in a casual setting. The restaurant offers quick service and a kids menu with options like California roll, teriyaki chicken, and edamame. Many locations provide crayons and coloring sheets for children. Visitors have recommended the spicy edamame and seaweed salad, as well as the hot house tea and spicy chicken dish. Despite some varying opinions on flavors, overall feedback has been positive.
Very good sushi everytime! Staff is always on it and attentive.

Went here for the first time a few weeks ago and got the eel rolls I believe and the eel was a bit sharp? Maybe not the right word but not as tender on the edges as other places. It was still good though. They charged an extra $1 for spicy mayo and they didn't even mix it. I found that odd.
Gabriela C — Google review
This place is humming!! Went in for dinner on Saturday and it was busy! But I know why, this place is good!! The service was fantastic and the sushi was fresh. The cucumbers in the seaweed salad were so crisp! Highly recommend the spicy white tuna roll, but honestly it was all good!! Tip for a busy night: order some appetizers trust me. The sushi doesn’t take forever but there are 4 chefs handling the takeout orders and dine in orders so it’s nice to munch on a little something while your food is being prepped.

We've been coming to Mio for years! Only the one on Walker tho, we tried the new one they put in beaverton & weren't impressed. The service is great, the staff is friendly! we walk in & the "cooks" say hello, we start to leave & they say good bye. Our food is always up to standard & the same each time! We often come for a family dinner, birthday dinner or even just because... Mio is great with 1 person or a big group!
Sabrina P — Google review
This was the restaurant recommendation from local people here. I found my love (spicy edamame and seaweed salad) there. And also ordered hot house tea, spicy chicken (stirred fried chicken with some onions, green and red pepper with steamed veggies). The spicy edamame was really spicy but very tasty. Spicy chicken is pretty good, but veggie was a little salty. So did miso soup. But everyone has different flavors, honestly, this restaurant was very good and I liked it. I would come back to try some sushi if I had a chance.

Still our favorite sushi spot. We come here often and love their sushi. Its always fresh and amazing. We always get Salmon nigiri and its always so fresh! We also always get Mt. Fuji, Beauty and the beast and Mt. Hood, in the photos. Also got the Kalbi that we get sometimes and it was good.
Narine C — Google review
If you are looking for a solid happy hour, this a great place! The workers greet you the moment you walk in the door and thank you on your way out. The service was top notch :) The sushi and sake was mmm good! We ordered the Bloody Vampire, Mt. Rainier & Mt. St. Helen and all were delicious. The Bloody Vampire was our favorite.

There are quite a few of these restaurants scattered around the Northwest Oregon area, and I think that is one of the reasons they always seem to have excellent quality fish. The menu is extensive, and although I just had sushi, everything coming out of the kitchen looked beautiful. At this location, the staff is particularly amicable and courteous. All around this is a solid pick for high-quality sushi at a reasonable price, and I give it five stars.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Portland, Castagna is a sleek and modern restaurant that offers an elevated dining experience. The restaurant features a clean-lined, minimalist ambiance with white tablecloths and an emphasis on artistic presentation. Chef Justin Woodward curates exquisite seasonal tasting menus that showcase a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.
We got the Chef’s tasting with wine pairing and I don’t think there was one course out of 20+ that we didn’t love. Pretty pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of quality, some of the best food combinations I’ve ever had.
Tori B — Google review
Late winter/spring tasting menu was good but didn't knock my socks off (which it should considering the $$$$). Some menu items were standouts, particularly the desserts. Some were a complete disappointment, like the squab and beef. Service was great, as was the wine.
A M — Google review
Consistently and somewhat-quietly amazing. Wine pairings have to be tried to be believed. (I'm not usually impressed by restaurants' wine pairings, and not because I'm some wannabe sommelier who thinks he knows better; I know very little about wine--partly because most wine "experts" seem to be far more proficient at memorizing wine information than knowing what tastes good with what. If I thought someone could teach me to pair wines likes Castagna does, I'd start studying tomorrow.) It's less flashy under the current chef than in its previous iteration as a molecular gastronomy showcase. But, doing fewer things to invite the term "showcase" is rarely a bad thing for the inherent quality of a product, and the offerings here haven't suffered a bit. Instead, the food is more reliably about food than a staged "experience of food." It's less meta. I know, that's pretty much what most pro critics have written, but in this case I agree. I'd further add that a meal here has enough evident control behind it--there are several surprises but few dissonant alarms, which were a risk with the previous chef--that it's now food worth thinking about, like a writer who's found her voice. It rewards contemplation. How does this next dish play against its wine? Am I tasting the one differently now, when it follows the other? (Hint: usually yes, and in intriguing, often astounding ways.) I don't recall asking those questions in Castagna's previous incarnation. Back then, I was dazzled and entertained and well fed, but I was less likely to ask "Why?" than "How in the world?" Now I'm actually tasting the tasting menu. Yes, "authorial voice" and "why" is an odd set of criteria to apply to a restaurant. But at Castagna, the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings is not operating in the same economic circles as most restaurants. At these prices, everything is under the microscope, and every last thing should be everything you'd expect, plus a little extra to wonder about. It should be dinner and a show and, for lack of a better term, food for thought. On our latest visit, for me and my lovely and ever-discerning wife, it was.
Mark K — Google review
Everything was delicious and interesting. We did the dinner menu (one regular and one vegetarian); no regrets.
Kimberly J — Google review
Their Modern, somewhat cool atmosphere sets the tone for the interesting assortment of small plates served and the general attitude of the staff. I didn't enjoy everything they made, but they did get me to try some unexpected combinations and think about the individual qualities of each component. I also didn't care for half the wines they paired with the dishes. If you are interested in a dinner like this, I recommend Coquette. The food was amazing, the people as professional and friendly as can be and the wine pairings exceptional.
Joy W — Google review
The food was exceptional. It opened my ideas of food by having me taste combinations that I would not otherwise try. The steak bites with some spicy sauce was my ultimate favorite but the beets, radishes and mussels were a very close second. I will definitely try the other menu sometime.
Vincent W — Google review
The food and service here is amazing! Great cocktails, and fresh ingredients. Such a great experience.

A phenomenal experience! My husband and I went here for my birthday dinner. Everything was perfection: the food, the service, and the ambiance. We went on a Saturday night and they were just the right degree of busy but there were still a few tables available. We started with the cheese platter which is an absolute must! The Brie was so rich and full, the manchego mild, and the Cherry chutney and the honey were excellent pairings. I had the albacore which was cooked perfectly with a corn relish. The corn was sweet and juicy. My husband had a burger and fries and they were delicious! Perfect for the less experimental eater. The wine was light and fruity. The only miss was dessert. We had the lemon cardamom donuts and the flavor is right on but the texture is off, too doughy and heavy. The staff and the chefs were helpful and friendly. Thank you cafe castagna! We will be back!

Sushi Sakura is a brightly colored, unassuming downtown Japanese spot with a cozy atmosphere and a conveyor belt that rolls out fresh, colorful sushi. It's traditional Japanese cuisine at its best, celebrating the culinary traditions of Japan. The menu divides sushi by the price of ingredients, but there is no flight of imagination - only good old favorites. The restaurant has been around for some time and is well-liked for its quick service and variety.
i love this place. Liked the concept of conveyer belt. Pick what ever you like from the conveyer. And pay by the plate color and numbers. I am gonna come back here next time when i visit Portland.
Monika K — Google review
I’ll have to say the food are not worth the price...and the service was very poor. Seems to be they have very low standards for everything...... when they can’t make evenly cut...... that’s awful, which means you might have a bite but with mouthful of foods......only one waitress seems to be either the wife of the owner of daughter of the owner. She doesn’t smile at all and have to taking care of the reception and cashing people out. The boss just walking around in the restaurant but doing nothing. If you wave hands ask for more water he just ask the waitress to do it. If you want to special order something he does not say a word but pointing the chef to you. Which is pretty rude. The salmon they are using not even meeting the average standards, usually you only use certain parts of the salmon that has evenly fat or white strips for sashimi. But look at the salmon, so terrible... and it’s not even worth the money
JC G — Google review
I was honestly shocked that there was a sushi place that I had not been to in downtown Portland yet. So when I found this place on maps, I hopped right over. Pros: The go-round is very nice looking and well stocked with a nice looking variety of fresh options. Cons: The prices are a bit higher than they need to be, and the waitstaff were near impossible to flag down, as they were sitting around a table in the corner watching their phones. I will not be back... I enjoy having a water refilled and that is not something I could get here.

First time at a sushi bar with a conveyor belt. Delightful, to say the least. Super fun lunch sitting at the bar and just grabbing whatever looked good going by. Spoke with the chefs who were more than happy to put in any item not going around. The food was super fresh with hot items still hot and cold items still cold. Eating with 2 people and filled up more than we should've, but still got out of there for around $50. Clean and easy/bright atmosphere, and the service was excellent! Definitely a place to go back to. Ended on Black pepper tuna nigiri...this was so good I could've just eaten 10 plates of this alone

Not much to say here, the sushi wasn't that good... They have a happy hour if you order any drink it drops the sushi price to $2.10, I think. Most of the sushi I ordered was ok. The last red plate I grabbed, did not taste good and I decided not too finish eating it.

Really excellent experience! Started with delicious hot green tea, then some creamy scallops which were huge and plump and delicious, then omakase sashimi pictured here which was absolutely fresh and delicious and extremely generous. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with friendly staff offering excellent service. The menu is wide-ranging, offering freshly made sushi and delicious options. It's a favorite spot for many due to its carefully prepared food, imported sake, and fun decor.
Just wow! Mazi and his team are friendly, attentive, kind and provided a fun and memorable experience. This is hands down the best Japanese selection of sushi (especially Salmon) that I’ve had dollar for dollar. Recommend sitting at the bar and ordering all the specials - yes, all of them. The aged Salmon with the variations offered are all so so good. We did order one roll, but honestly did not need to.

Cozy restaurant and tremendous sushi! We had the Volcano roll and the yellow Tail Torch roll and they were both so good, with the spicy, baked Volcano roll as the winner. The mushroom cigars were delicious and I’m definitely not a mushroom enthusiast. Definitely make a reservation for Friday and Saturday for peak hours. Parking can be a challenge as well. This was $50 for the two rolls + appetizer and that’s a fair price for high quality sushi. You’d pay more in Seattle or San Francisco and not get better quality.
David B — Google review
I really enjoyed this spot-it was absolutely delightful. I'm someone who's happy to pay for good food, and while prices skew toward the premium side, the quality justifies the tag. Take the best-selling board: nigiri at $7 a piece. That's higher than most casual sushi spots in Portland-where plates often hover in the $1.50-$5 range-but it aligns more with mid to high-end sushi elsewhere in the city. For example, I just had a cheaper meal at ox with dessert yesterday. Ultimately, the experience-and the flavor--is worth it, and l'd happily return. If you go, take a cue from my friend and explore the blackboard specials; they were the real standouts. My boyfriend said it didn't blow his mind for the price through. Which has me thinking. He rated it a 4.5 which I think I could agree with. The service was really attentive and friendly too! Aged tuna ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - looked strange to me initially bc it was so flat - I like the taste, it has seasoning - my boyfriend said he would reorder this for sure ❤️ salmon torro ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I loved this one, would reorder for sure - juicy, almost seared - couldn't taste the roe ❤️Oyster tempera ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - this one is insanely good, I was surprised - when you bite into it, there's an explosion of flavors - love the pairing with lemon and seaweed Fatty salmon ⭐⭐⭐ - sashimi - didn't love this one for some reason but I like the flavor of the yuzu, there's seasoning - I don't love how small the serving was for the price of this, it was really thin, wouldn't reorder Golden crunchy roll ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - good low carb option, would reorder - not the freshest but sauces cover anything

My favorite sushi spot in PDX! Eating at the bar, while Mazi San himself prepares specialty rolls is such a treat 😌 the level of care and love that he puts into the food is very special! If you get to sit at the bar, make sure to ask for the VIP menu and recommendation from the chef 🩷

I’ve been visiting Sushi Mazi for over 5 years now and the consistent quality, incredible fish and sake selection, attention to detail and lovely caring team has brought my partner and I back time and time again. The rolls are all great (get the salmon skin roll you won’t regret it) but the nigiri and sashimi are where it’s at! Perfect fish with delightful accents and Marc nails the fish to rice ratio on the nigiri every time. Sake selection is also on point! There are always new bottles to try and varieties to fit every preference or pallet. Chef Marc and his family have created a unique local gem. Sushi is my favorite food and Sushi Mazi is my favorite place in Portland to get it.

I'm a black guy who loves great food, but any time I walk into a grocery fancier than the Food-4-Less, I get stared at. Great place for sushi! We went in with a coupon or we wouldn't have known about this place. We were seated promptly. Service was perfect--prompt without hovering. Food was delicious: we tried lots of different dishes, everything was fresh, and prices were in line with what we ordered. This is now a definite go-to place for sushi night!

Ingredients, execution, service. The fish is of the highest quality and the rice is on point. If you like fried rolls with mayo/cream cheese/sweet sauce and turn your soy sauce into Wasabi sludge, you might be disappointed. This is a place that delights by honoring the basics with thoughtful execution. They have a well curated menu of classics and a smattering of more inventive fare. Can I mention again just how good the rice is here? If you know, then you know. The menu is priced appropriately and the servers are knowledgeable and attentive. Their new space is airy and elemental, though I do miss the old movies playing on the wall of their former digs.

I went here about six months ago. Afterward, I felt mislead by positive reviews for this place calling it "authentic". The food was overpriced and unimpressive. Our sushi chef was sweet and a nice conversationalist, but she was a petite white girl proud of how she learned to make sushi in the American midwest. There was nothing authentic about my visit. I didn't particularly dislike anything, but I didn't like anything well enough to return either.

Edamame here is awesome, they're buttery and have a nice little kick. The sushi is good, but over priced for what you get, in my opinion. It's also hard to be gluten free at this restaurant because their sushi rice is not gluten free, apparently because of the rice vinegar they use. The plus side is that they do have a raw roll that they were able to do gluten free and it was delicious.

The Sushi here is Exceptional! Some of the best sushi I have tasted outside of Japan. Don't expect to encounter any fancy rolls here, this is as authentic as you can get. Go after 9pm for "Omakase" (I'll leave it to you [the chef]) for a more personal experience. This Sushi can't be missed.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing Valentines dinner here tonight! The chefs were very kind and the gentleman who had helped us up front heard we had never tried sake before and let us try some free of charge which was very nice of him. The sushi was great as well. We had gotten three rolls the shrimp tempura roll, carpenter and sakura. People who are complaining about how there aren't "typical" sushi menu items can always go to a Sushiland if they reaaally need that california roll lol. We thought the menu selection was great and had no complaints. Majority of the higher end sushi restaurants have menus similar to this and for the quality we thought the price was quite fair. We had paid $54 with a $10 tip for two cocktails and three rolls.

Our bartender Jarrod was absolutely amazing. Recommended drinks and sushi for my wife and I who are by no means sushi enthusiasts. Thanks for a great evening at a reasonable price! My wife: “This is delicious and I don’t even like Sushi.” Enough said.

I went here with my husband becsuse it was raited high and we love sushi. The waitress was flighty and kept wondering off when we tried to order. The fish was tastey and the sushi had decent flavor, but the service was horrible, and the selection left a lot to be desired. They didn't even have anything resembling standard sushi fair. I'm okay with an adventure, but when our plates came; The sushi was also the smallest portions and tiniest rolls I've ever had. We even ordered a speciality roll and the Omasaka. We were so hungry after spending 40 dollars, that we went to the pizza place around the corner to get some more food.

The sushi restaurant Momoyama is a popular spot for locals and travelers in Portland. They serve up delicious Japanese cuisine with a variety of options to suit everyone's taste. The restaurant is comfortable and the sushi chefs are more than happy to teach you about the latest trends in the industry.
While looking for fun spots to enjoy a bite and food for our group of 7 to have an impromptu reunion with old friends, we came across this delightful gem. MOMOyama! They were nice enough to take a reservation and had a large booth, perfectly suited to our group. The booth seating is great and provides a nice barrier for sound and privacy for a group to enjoy conversations and laughs without distractions or disturbing neighbors. They have a great selection of appetizers and we opted for a whole bottle of their cold Nigori Sake which was delicious! We had an amazing range of sushi selections and their lobster roll Was super yummy! We tried the Ikura/uni noodles which was tasty and we also had the AGE Tofu and their crispy chicken appetizer and a range of sushi’s and sashimi. Definitely recommend coming here for sushi and the rolls are diverse and delicious and lots of pieces, great for sharing. They have some super good signature cocktails and a fun selection of themed and inspired drinks with an Asian flare. One cocktail had a fried shishito pepper on top which was a fun garnish. When you are in the market for sushi, want to find easy parking, and like a restaurant close to a small green square/park. I definitely recommend a stop in at MomoYama. Cheers to MOMOyama for the great dining experience! Thank you for reading my honest review and Happy Dining!!

This sushi spot feels like dining inside a series of oversized confessionals—you can’t see another soul, but you sure can eavesdrop on their wasabi secrets. The lighting hums with vibey energy, like the fish themselves picked the mood. Fresh salmon melts into existence, and the spicy tuna slaps like a surprise high five. The only mystery roll here is the parking lot, which feels less “restaurant” and more “choose-your-own-adventure.”

We didn't know that we needed to book omakase ahead of time but luckily they had an opening for two. We didn't really have much expectations going in but the food and service were both great! Would recommend trying their omakase for sure!

Okay new favorite sushi spot has been identified! Rachel was such a sweet server and made the night lovely. All of the dishes were so great and she had awesome recommendations on the menu (there is so much to pick from). I will definitely becoming back to try more. The salmon sashimi sampler was divine. So nice to try them side by side. The seasonal blue fin tuna carpaccio was just amazing!! And the salmon garlic yuzu sashimi was a delight. You have to come here and try it all! Inside is so cute too.

Everything was incredibly fresh and flavorfull! The menu is excellent !! Our server; however, was neglectful and mediocre at best. We may return, but not go out of our way considering how untimely the guy was and how long our drinks were empty.

Nodoguro is a Japanese restaurant that offers various levels of omakase experiences, featuring meticulously crafted dishes made with high-quality ingredients. The fish, often wild-caught and imported from markets in Japan, takes center stage in the menu. Wagyu from Kagoshima, albacore from Astoria, sea urchin from Santa Barbara, and other premium ingredients are showcased in the multicourse menus.
A friend booked a table at the April dinner, and I did not pay enough attention to our itinerary to know what to expect. This was, hands-down, one of the most delightful and exciting meals I have ever experienced. Each dish was beautifully prepared and presented with loving narration. The owners gently encouraged us with each delivery to experiment with the various sakes as we tasted. Flavors, textures, service, ambience… all in mind-blowing harmony and absolutely beautiful to experience with close friends.

We did the Peter Cat dinner with sake pairing. It was such a wonderful and memorable experience. Our table loved every dish and sake that we had. Everything tasted so vibrant and fresh. We each got a bottle to take home with us. The staff are amazing and interact with diners and were informative about each sake and dish pairing. I will definitely be back here again.

We’re friends who’ve known each other for over 30 years and have been reuniting annually. We spent the evening here for the Peter Cat story. The service and hospitality was phenomenal. The owners were careful, intentional and brought warmth to every dish. The food was beautifully arranged and delicious. Every part of this experience was amazing. Thank you to the entire team for making this “friends trip” one of our best yet.

Went for the Peter Cat night, and I have to say.. I really liked the atmosphere. It was a wonderful establishment, most of the staff was amazing, some of the most caring and delightful staff i have ever met. The food, though, was very one dimensional, I could not say it was bad at all because that wasn't it. It was just not up to the hype. Everything was very fresh and well prepared it just wasn't jumping out at me as being an "experience" I have eaten at some very wonderful places recently and I feel like I could put a few above this based off of price and food experience. Maybe I was overly hyped up, but I was expecting something a bit more eye-opening, and it all felt very safe. Again, this is a wonderful establishment, the people are literally the best, but the food is very average. For the price, it would be hard for me to want to try again on a different nights experience.
Matthew P — Google review
It has taken me 10 years too long to write this review for Nodoguro. Chef Ryan and Elena Roadhouse have not only executed one of the finest sousaku (“creative, original work”) Japanese dining experiences in Portland, they are impeccable hosts and committed to this town. In fact, having dined with them through 4 locations (we discovered them after their early pop-up days), it feels like home when we come in. We’ve celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, and every time we are awed by new dishes and love to revisit favorite ones. The photos of the beautifully and tastefully amazing food speak for themselves. The saké and wine pairings are thoughtfully curated. The pace of the meal with only one seating for the night feels like time has stood still, and you don’t want it to end. The price point might be a stretch, but the experience will not disappoint. Take someone special with you to share the meal and make the memory of the art that unfolds for your eyes and mouth - you’ll be glad you did.

Flawless execution of the food. Went for the Peter Cat menu. The menu changes so it’s probably not helpful to review. It is definitely worth the price and the service is great. Overall great time

I’ve been taking friends, family, and coworkers to Nodoguro since their 2014 popups. I’ve had at least 12 dinners over time which has never felt old. Ryan and Elena are amazing hosts and continue to make their environment very welcoming, fun, at times educational, and they always give such a delightful presentation to each amazingly tasty course. Whether you live in the Portland area or just visiting, don’t miss out on Nodoguro.

Koya Sushi was spectacular from the very first impression. Everything exceeded expectations—the warm hospitality, the stunning presentation, and, of course, the delicious food. My friend and I arrived close to closing time and didn’t think we’d be seated, but the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, which set the tone for the entire experience. As soon as the food arrived, I couldn't help but notice how amazing the presentation was. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. Koya Sushi left such a positive impression that I’m already looking forward to my next visit for more amazing sushi!

A new sushi place for us. Excellent food - beautiful presentation, larger than typical sizes of fish, smaller portion of rice, but most importantly, really good quality and perfectly aged fish! This is how Japanese food is supposed to be - pleasing to one's eyes, pleasing to one's palate, and pleasing to one's heart and soul! Good value also even just for the quality of fish! The Spider Rainbow roll was both excellent and pleasing to one's eyes! Wagyu and Fois Gras nigiri was quite intereting and really tasty! Very attentive, friendly, and courteous service! Can be a bit noisy from adjacent seatings that are a bit too close. The food trumps that however! We revisited two days later and we shall return!

Tried Koya Sushi in Beaverton and loved it! Started with the Sunomono salad perfectly pickled and full of flavor. My favorite rolls were the Hang Ten, Albacore Delight, and Sunset Roll, plus the salmon sashimi was amazing. Loved the dry ice under the sashimi! The place was clean, the sushi chefs were super friendly, and I’ll definitely be back. Parking is on the street and a bit limited, so plan ahead.

Is this art or food? After eating a bite, I realized this was food. The owner chef's special sashimi plate was so so so incredible itself. All fishes were very very fresh as well the pieces were huge. I can guarantee Koya is the best Japanese restaurant in the U.S. Also all staff were very kind and professional. Especially I like Tank and Jamie who are owners. Come and see them!!!.

Well prepared, Great tasting food. We ordered some ventilation that came with sushi, salad, miso soup, rice, and chicken katsu with mango rice wine 🍷. The staff was very attentive and kind. The place is small. However, it gave them the opportunity to prepare everything in their own kitchen. Will be back again, and thank you

Samurai Blue Sushi & Ramen is a trendy Japanese and Korean eatery located on North Portland's Mississippi Avenue. The restaurant offers an array of small plates, sushi, tableside hibachi, and sake cocktails in a casual setting adorned with a striking mural of Hokusai's Great Wave.
I’ve had a lot of sushi I’m my life, and Samurai Blue is a gem. The fish was of the absolute highest quality, and their rolls are inventive, interesting and delicious. Sumo roll is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. The hotate/scallop nigiri was huge and amazingly fresh. Succulent and tender, the house-pickled saba/mackerel was the best I’ve ever had. Even the miso soup was more delectable than expected. Service is friendly and gracious, and dishes are served on gorgeous hand-carved wooden platters. Get the house hot sake and look who's in your cup! I was really impressed and will definitely be back.

Another run of the mill "sushi" spot here in Portland. There's more affordable options for better price points in this city. The portion sizes were pretty good, but quality, like many places, is still not incredible. For the sushi purist, avoid. If you're not picky, not a bad substitute.

Enjoyed the rolls and hand wrap rolls. Green tea was meh. It was really a bright green..more of the color tea you would find at the Chinese restaurants. Like the bite size sushi rolls and the tempura. The deep fried oysters was not our favorite. Too mushy and raw for us. 🤢 Dessert was yummy.😋

What a hidden gem! A friend took me here recently and I would have never known it was there. The staff is super friendly. I’ve been told the chef sources everything he can from Japan. I almost feel like I am back in Japan when I eat here. The sushi is delicious and I’d say the best I’ve had in the Portland/Meteo area! I highly recommend the eel. I was also super impressed with the curry! If you’re looking for some great Japanese cuisine look no further.

This sushi spot is a real hidden gem! The quality of the sushi is amazing, with fresh, pieces that are simply so good. One of the highlights is that you can order by the piece, allowing you to try a variety of flavors without overcommitting. The handrolls are also great. Hamono Sushi is a cozy Japanese restaurant located in downtown Portland, known for its intimate setting and delicious food. With a capacity of only 20 diners, it's considered one of the city's best-kept secrets. The charming ambiance is enhanced by cherry blossom decorations on the ceiling. Can’t believe we have never eaten here before! It was great! Really quite delicious and fresh. Nathan is a gracious and knowledgeable host. We took all of his suggestions and they were all spot on. The atmosphere is cute but small, so I hesitate telling you how good it is😏 We’ll be back!

Unlimited sushi used to mean you are there just to fill your belly and sacrifice the quality. NOT the case with Hamono. The dining experience includes Omakase of excellent quality, followed by unlimited addition to your liking. The server superbly took care of everyone in the restaurant with humor. Still can't believe the quality of sushi for the cost... and it's unlimited. Did I mention it's unlimited?

We had a great experience last night. The food was phenomenal. We loved everything we had. The servers were very nice and welcoming. They made us very comfortable ordering more. The only downside is the waiting time. I personally do not like spending 2.5 - 3 hours at the restaurant. I think they can serve more customers if they improve their speed. I noticed that everyone has to wait at least 30 minutes for the first course. Overall, with the price, it is 100% worth it. Definitely coming back again.

Little hidden gem in between all the nonsense. My friend’s been talking this place up and now I know why. This is absolute some of the best sushi in the Portland downtown area. I am delighted with this restaurant. I had heard that the food here was delicious, but I didn't understand how delicious until I tried it. It was the most delicious sushi I have ever eaten. Very fresh and tender fish, perfectly cooked rice, wonderfully combined flavors. Everything was so perfect that it was hard to believe. I also really liked the service; the waiter was very attentive and caring. He's probably the first waiter in the US who really deserved his tips. I also liked how the chef came out to the dining room to present his dishes. It shows that he's proud of what he cooks. Unfortunately, I live 1,000 miles away from you, otherwise I would be a regular customer.

Absolutely delicious. Seriously amazing gastronomic experience. Everything was fresh. The omakase was superb. And the service was top notch. All the details about the food (most that went over my head at no fault of theirs but because I’m just not bougie like that) and the customer service, the attention that we were given felt like it was above and beyond. This was 💯 % worth the price and would encourage everyone to try it.
Carla C — Google review
New favorite place. An omakase lunch to return for, multiple times. 19 dishes today, mostly nigiri, a summer omakase somewhat unlike the pictured menu. Chef Jason (I think) had scored a bunch of different fishes from Japan, plus summer hamachi from Hawaii, obscene toro and much more, explaining them all as I nodded like a dummy. Waiter Nate explained some dishes as well. Both guys were great, super nice, encyclopedic, and this made for an excellent solo dining experience. The fact everything wasn’t all separately plated was a blessing, and when multiple nigiri come out, just eat left to right. Fried shrimp head! Everything was beautifully seasoned as presented, although soy sauce and real (yummy) wasabi is there for you if you feel the need. From fresh crab miso soup to the A5 Wagyu finish (which I failed to photograph, instead snarfing it down) once you’re done with the very ample omakase, you can then order *almost* as much as you like from the separate omakase menu. Including the toro, wagyu, and more, with limits. The rest is all you can eat. The toro simply blew my mind. I had 4 nigiri from 3 different belly cuts, and each one will allow you to say “I can die now.” Man alive, it was life altering sushi, that fatty tuna. He asked if I wanted more, but I was really satisfied. This is all you can eat sushi from a different plane of existence. I ordered extra toro, the uni ikura don, toro uni tamaki, yuzu salmon salad, and negitoro maki. I was perfectly stuffed. In fact, the omakase itself would be enough for a normal person, unlike an abnormal like me, without ordering extras. After all that beautiful seafood, I could have also had cheesecake, mochi, or sweet potato and ice cream, or all of them, but the orange in the yuzu salmon salad kinda made for a really nice light dessert. Plus I had to bike home. All this for $100 + tip is a deal. It was so damn good, I will go again with anyone who wants to. Everything was absolutely fabulous. I’m not a sushi expert, aficionado, or snob. It is possible there is technically better sushi in town. HOWEVER! This is, I think, the best sushi meal I’ve ever had. Aside from the very first time way back in 1992 at Tomoe Sushi in New York - and you never forget your first - it is certainly my new favorite. It was bonkers. Best hunnerd bucks you’ll ever spend.

We indulged in the miso salmon, unagi don, winter sushi, and wagyu sushi, each dish was exquisitely prepared and elegantly presented. I finally got the chance to come here for a meal to celebrate a friend's belated birthday. The interior is nice and spacious, with outside seating available. The decor is nicely done and gives you that nice peaceful vibes. We ordered a good amount of food to share, with the majority being non-seafood. We practically ordered album all of the yakitori and skewer items and were not disappointed. I think my favorite of the skewers were the beef ribeye, wagyu, the Nomo, and pork belly. I also enjoyed their house special Udon stir fry, gyudon, and Plains roll (with wagyu). It is also to be noted that their bathroom has a changing station for parents (this is something that I really appreciate as a parent). The service was wonderful and friendly. Overall, it's definitely worth checking out.

Roe is a seafood restaurant that is tucked away within The Rockin Crab Cafe. It features inventive and unique menus that change according to what's in season, as well as a refined caviar service.
We had the four course meal with traditional caviar. The service was friendly and fast and the food was fresh and delicious. Every dish was packed with tons of flavor. If the chef's tasting menu is sold out the prix fixe menu is still an awesome experience. Hopefully we can come back and try the tasting menu next time!

The best dining experience I have had in Portland. After eating the salmon I thought "this is it, that's the best fish I've ever had" but then they brought out the seabass, which was somehow even more delicious. From the photos you may think that the serving sizes are small, but it ends up being a lot of food. We ordered the wine pairing service to go with the courses and loved all the choices they made. All the staff were wonderful. McKenzie, our server, was so helpful and made the experience that much better. It was also really cool to see the chefs working a short distance away.

excellent dining service. casual cool vibe with no pretentious airs though the open kitchen looked very serious. quality ingredients, amazing sauces and attention to details down to the tiny herbs and flowers on the dishes. caring and attentive service made the evening special.

Really fantastic food. Had the fixed menu with pairing and everything was amazing except the timing. The waitress was bringing out dishes well before we were done with the previous dish. A small issue, but for $250/person, the little things matter.

The food is good, price is fair, but the service pacing needs major improvement. The time between serving each course is too long and varies to much. I was there for 2 hours for this 4-course dinner. In the same 2 hours elsewhere I'd usually be having a 6- to 8-course meal. Service is attentive otherwise. Also, the dining room needs better ventilation. There were periods when the room was filled with smoke from the open kitchen.

Seriously tho, this place was so far above any expectations that I might have had. The service was exceptional and the wine pairings were spot on. Most definitely in the top 3 of some of the best meals that I've had in Portland.

I highly recommend the chef's menu. The food was spectacular and plated with such creativity and beauty. The service was also top notch. Thanks for an unforgettable evening!

I've been Roe twice, tried both tasting menu and chef menu, foods and services there are soooooooooo good! I've been a lot of good restaurants here in Portland, tried different tasting menus and chief menus, Roe is definitely the one of best restaurants I want to visit again and again.

Sushi restaurant
Kaede is a small sushi bistro located in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood, offering high-quality seafood flown in from Japan at relatively affordable prices. With most dishes on the menu priced under $20, it provides an opportunity to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine without breaking the bank. The restaurant operates on a reservation-only basis, allowing guests to plan ahead for a sushi-forward dining experience featuring well-selected fish and rotating specials like golden-eye snapper and half beak.
phenomenal - only regret is ruining sushi anywhere else. Five star service and they need to forge more stars in the galaxy to edge the fish quality and taste high enough. Can't recommend enough - loved the chef's counter experience and watching the chef expertly prepare everything. It was like watching art be made. The nigiri was, of course, perfect, but don't sleep on the appetizers - the deep fried scallop was a favorite. The thin, maki roll with tuna and green onion was something magical, and it visits me in my dreams. Thank you so much for a perfect night!

Incredible food and service. Everything was prepared with care. Absolutely delicious and fresh fish. Great value for the tasting menu as well.

Kaede is a small, quiet omakase spot with a very calm and simple atmosphere. There’s just one chef, and you can really see the care he puts into every detail. Each piece of nigiri was beautifully made and the quality of the fish was excellent across the board. It feels personal and thoughtful — a great place if you’re looking for an intimate, no-frills omakase experience.
Jidapa C — Google review
Amazing nigiri omakase experience! The quality of the fish matched and even exceeded what I've been served at a Michelin star omakase restaurant in Tokyo. The nigiri have the chef's thoughtful personal touch and I found that these complemented the flavor of the fish very well and were not overpowering. We also really enjoyed the soft creamy chawanmushi that had the perfect amount of truffle and the monkfish karaage was fried to golden brown perfection. The waiter was also very kind, explained everything very well and gave us recommendations that really made the experience special. If you enjoy nigiri this restaurant is a must do experience. I highly recommend Kaede!

Absolutely incredible. The sushi is next level and the tasting menu price for the quality is great. The service was also great and the chef was so sweet and a joy to chat with at the sushi bar. Couldn’t recommend enough.
Mary L — Google review
One of the better quality nigiri spots in Portland. Similar to some of the top end omakase nigiri you’d find in Seattle. Nigiri flavors are subtle, fresh and complex. Order off the seasonal/daily menu for some interesting takes. Good sake selection as well. They are reservation only and only available for max party of 2. Ambiance is quiet and spacious. Pricier end for sushi in Portland but definitely worth it.

Our dining experience at this intimate Japanese restaurant was nothing short of fantastic. With only two seats per table, it felt like we were transported to Japan, enjoying an authentic and personal experience. The server, who also welcomed us and guided us through the menu, was incredible, adding to the overall charm of the evening. We opted for the omakase meal, featuring the freshest fish flown in directly from Tokyo markets, and each dish was a delightful surprise. The quality and attention to detail were exceptional. If you’re looking for a truly authentic Japanese dining experience, this place is a must-but reserve in advance is essential

Since there were only a few days left before school began, I decided my son and I were going to do staycation foodie experiences, and Kaede was on our hit list. We snagged the last reservation for the next day, a Thursday. Appetizers were on point with balanced flavors and textures. We were able to indulge in actual wild nigiri (not farmed)and they had several fatty options for this little fatty! Each piece is carefully prepared with just the right touch of fresh wasabi by the chef. Clean, fresh, buttery smooth texture. Our service was excellent and the timing of dishes was perfect. Save room for dessert-corn creme brûlée or balsamic fig ice cream. An intimate space that’s reservation only, so plan ahead!
