Art gallery
The Portland Art Museum offers a diverse collection of art from various cultures, including Asian, American, Native American, and European pieces. The museum is housed in two buildings connected underground and is located on the serene South Park Blocks. Established in 1892, it holds over 42,000 artworks and is renowned for its extensive Native American, Asian, European, American, and English silver collections. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum hosts touring shows and film screenings.
Visited many times and even took my engagement photos inside the museum a year ago! They have some rules about photography within the museum, so make sure to call ahead of time if you plan to do a photoshoot here. There are so many exhibits to walk through with art for all kinds of tastes. Plan to spend at least an hour and a half here. The free First Thursdays are such a cool deal! Pretty crowded, but the acoustics of the building soften the noise. The gift shop is delightful but can get tight when lots of people are inside. As for parking, just find a parking garage nearby and walk over to the museum. One more note: they generously offer a military discount which is free entry.
Melia — Google review
Currently the museum has no temporary exhibition (the Monet’s water lolies closed on August 10) and most sections are closed for renovation, however no discount was applied to the tickets price. We entered only because we weren’t sure if we ever return to Portland. Part of the European and the American galleries were open and we enjoyed the paintings and sculptures. Staff was kind.
Carmen S — Google review
Apparently they are under construction with 2 of four floors unavailable for viewing. But they are charging full price for half the museum experience, doesn't sound fair. There also wasn't a guidebook to add to the disappointment, I was just walking around on pure vibes lol. For the portion of the museum that was available, there, the art and installments were beautiful. I loved that so many pieces could be tied back to Oregon including the founder of the museum. I would recommend viewing this museum when it's whole again.
MS S — Google review
An amazing collection, and that's even before they opened the new Mark Rothko wing. One of the most beautiful Monet's waterlillies, an incredible Artemisia Gentilesschi, and much more!
Ziki — Google review
Had a great time getting inspired by many great artists from around the world. Really enjoyed the Peruvian/Chilenian artist on religious artifacts. Great works of arts to enjoy.
MrCopper K — Google review
Had the opportunity to visit on free Friday and was so lucky to see the Monet exhibit. The museum is rather small compared to what I have visited before. But, the staff are very friendly and the artwork is really fantastic.
Angela H — Google review
Global icons, Local spotlight exhibition is interesting. The museum is currently under construction but I was told it will reopen soon, surprisingly there are pieces from Picasso and Monet!
Mustafa D — Google review
I visited recently and they have an awesome collection. They were undergoing a remodel so there was limited access to many areas, but worth every penny of admission! First, their prized Monet has been restored recently and it’s absolutely amazing. In connection with Monet, the collection of Japanese paintings and wooodblock prints is really some incredible work. It’s worth going just to see these Japanese works because pictures do not do them any justice. To see these techniques and details up close is sublime. Portland has so many awesome things to draw one’s attention, but don’t miss the Art Museum, the museum itself and the blocks long park that connects all the buildings on the street are a local treasure.

Used book store
Powell's City of Books is a renowned bookstore located in downtown Portland's Pearl District. It spans an entire city block and boasts a staggering collection of approximately one million books, making it the largest used and new bookstore globally. The store features nine color-coded rooms with over 3,500 different sections, catering to a wide range of interests.
A must visit bookstore, featuring the largest collection of books of all types I’ve ever seen. The store takes up an entire city block and is five stories tall. There are lots of guides to help point you toward what you’re looking for. There are also a variety of Portland gifts. The travel section and science fiction sections were amazing. Lots of obscure topics as well. There is also a little coffee shop on the ground floor looking out o to the street. One of my favorite features are shelves with the top books by category, such as best fiction, best nonfiction, staff favorites, etc. Absolutely worth a visit.
Chris — Google review
I got lost among thousands of books and found one of my favorite places in Portland: Powell's City of Books. The largest bookstore in the world (a full block) reminded me that there will always be stories waiting for us; you just have to dare to look for them among books and coffee. Since I was a teenager, I loved going to bookstores and spent hours there (literally); I would walk aisle after aisle and write down what I found interesting on my to-read list. In the end, I would leave with just one book, or sometimes with a bookmark, but always with great reflections and thoughts, and I never failed to feel the tinge of anxiety that my life wouldn't allow me to read everything I wanted to read. Visiting this bookstore was like giving that Carlitos an unforgettable experience and reminding him how fleeting life is, so I confirm what I understood at a very young age: I will only read what I am truly passionate about, and I'm not just talking about books. Only if I could change something it would be the cashier's attention.
Carlos C — Google review
They layout is interesting. You can easily get lost in the sea of books. Everything seems well organized. Some prices are quite surprising. Books from the 60-70s costing more than 20 bucks. Overall, it's worth visiting. But I didn't walk away with what I expected to find. But there are interesting books.
Julio P — Google review
Nov 2025 visit I adore books and cats. If you do as well, Powell's carries a number of adorable cat themed tote bags (and others) scattered around. I got stuck in the journal section for a while, admiring the beautiful artwork and embossed covers of blank journals. 3rd floor has the crafting books along with a rare book room (limited daytime hours). Will visit again.
Ali C — Google review
They say it's one of the largest independent book store and it is a great spot for booklovers. They have a coffee shop, rare book store and a 6-7 big sections with different topics. You can easily get lost for a day if you want. Definitely a must stop place to experience while visiting Portland.
Shobhit G — Google review
Book lovers dream and a must see destination for any Portland vacation! So many books, had to come two days in a row to check out everything! Incredible selection and very friendly and helpful staff. Recommend checking out the rare books room.
Lori P — Google review
I can go through this bookstore for hours. A huge selection, and it’s all a well maintained. The store is laid out by rooms, each holding different genres/categories. Whenever I’m in Portland I always have to stop by this location. It’s a tradition. I love the cafe they have connected to the bookstore as well!
Aaron T — Google review
I know of this bookstore, but the first time I went here, it was a wave of synchronicity that somehow brought me to a talk with one of my favourite writers, Adam Johnson, during my two days sojourn in Portland. It really made my night. Other than that, it is impossible to not recommend this indie bookstore. It has got it all. A sheer size of labyrinthine bookracks filled to the brim with everything you can imagine, many information stations that will assist you, cute and carefully selected merchandises, a nice catalogue of used books. If you are a book lover, it is heresy not to visit Powell’s City of Books at least once.

Pittock Mansion, a 23-room museum built in 1914, offers visitors a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of the affluent in the early 20th century. The mansion, commissioned by Henry Pittock, features period furnishings and rotating exhibits such as 'Dining in the Gilded Age,' showcasing tableware from that era. The French Renaissance-style chateau boasts scenic views of Portland and the Cascade Mountains.
Beautiful!! I think it’d be cool if some of the rooms weren’t roped off — like the upstairs bathroom— but I also understand why they aren’t. I really liked that the servants quarters and such were on display (kinda). That was super cool. I loved all of the teapots and china on display as well
Beau ( — Google review
Cool hangout spot with great panoramic views. The mansion itself is small but nice and takes about 30 minutes to explore. Bathrooms inside and a small guesthouse you can also see inside is also included with the ticket. The main attraction is the views outside the mansion overlooking Portland and beyond. The view itself is free just go inside the house you have to pay. Also don’t forget to pay for parking. Have fun!
Guillermo R — Google review
It's the best place to see Portland. I came for the view and took some beautiful photos of the city and nature. The inside of the house offers a glimpse into a historical life. There are some wonderful historical artifacts, including old-time home layouts, household items, and kitchenware. I'd call it a museum. I found parking. I paid $5-6. The ticket was around $20. It was worth it for the view.
Rana B — Google review
I've lived in Oregon for over 40 years and visited Pittock Mansion for the first time yesterday. It is spectacular with amazing views of downtown Portland. The house is cleverly decorated- each room features authentic furnishings from different eras, dating back to the early 1800's. The grounds are immaculate. Be sure to take in the views of Portland from the backyard overlook. Also, take a hike through Forest Park which borders the grounds!
Lee M — Google review
Gorgeous grounds to walk and views are amazing too. The mansions architecture and furnishings are so impressive for their time and still beautiful even now. Spent about an hour to hour and a half and it was want busy at all, this was on a Wednesday morning. They have an elevator if you need it. Very nice staff. Parking is $2 an hour or $8 for the day. They had a couple handicap spaces which are very close to the mansion.
Kimberly C — Google review
Beautiful views and hikes. The mansion was amazing to visit. The volunteers were eager to tellvus the history and interesting facts. I was impressed with the history and how they displayed the information. The price was reasonable. Definitely a must see.
Sandra Y — Google review
After a long hike to the Pittock Mansion, the view made it worth the trouble. It offered sweeping views of the city and the best part is, you do not need to pay for it. You have to pay to go inside the mansion but most people were just walking around and going to the view.
Gustavo J — Google review
Amazing historical place! Do the tourist! Was so worth it! Lots of information you will only get going through the tour. Had a great time the whole way through. Gorgeous place!

Lan Su Chinese Garden is a serene oasis nestled in the bustling Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood of Portland. This tranquil botanical garden showcases rare plants native to China and features exquisite decorative stonework. A collaboration with Portland's sister city Suzhou, this garden offers a glimpse into the life of a wealthy 16th-century Chinese family through its ornate structures and exquisitely landscaped courtyards.
Beautiful garden right in the city. Peaceful setting even in a bustling city. The garden stays much cooler than the outside city and the noise is buffered by the birds and water. With plenty of opportunities to sit and enjoy the scenery, make sure you check out the events. We took the free tour which was very interesting. There is even a Tea House and gift shop.
Kim K — Google review
What a peaceful meditative oasis! There is clearly some special energy here, transplanted by the artisans from Suzhou China who crafted the design and contents of this garden. We especially loved the tea house with an impressive variety of teas and baked goods, with tables overlooking the picture perfect lake and garden. The gift shop is also well stocked with a wide variety of items. I can totally see spending hours just quietly reading or soaking in the special special ambience of this meditative space.
Leonard S — Google review
Beautiful Chinese Garden, the tea house here is one of the best I’ve been to in the States! It’s so well done, it transports you to a whole new place. Spent a good couple of hours here just sipping tea, walking around the gardens and being in Zen mode.
Aaron T — Google review
What a beautiful hole in the wall place to visit! Lots of good photo op places and felt very culturally grounding for all races, especially if you’re Chinese. Reminded me of my roots, the koy fish pond right in the center was impressive and having the tea house to enjoy some cold tea on a hot day like today was amazing. Top tier decor and ambiance. So glad I came to visit this garden. The area outside the garden may be a little sketch but we have not encountered anything negative especially during the daytime, it’s ok. Metered street parking.

Very beautiful complex that has regular tours and a great tea house in the back. The beverages and snack were delicious and the ambiance was lovely. Highly recommend for folks looking to do some work or for a few hours of calm leisure!

This is a wonderful spot to pause, breathe deeply, and truly enjoy the surroundings. Every detail here is thoughtfully designed and meaningful. Visiting the tea house is a delightful experience and a must do!

It is a beautiful place fills with tranquility and culture. It is a gem in downtown Portland. When I was there sitting on the bench inside the pavilion, watching fish swam between the waterlilies and lotus, I forgot my anxiety and time. Even after I left that place I can still see its’ beautiful pictures on my brain.

Park
The International Rose Test Garden, located in Washington Park between the historic Portland neighborhoods of Arlington Heights and Goose Hollow, is a city-maintained garden that was established in 1917. It boasts over 10,000 rose plants displayed in meticulously manicured gardens. The garden offers stunning views of Downtown Portland and Mt. Hood and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
I read somewhere that this rose garden is Portland's most popular attraction. It's massive it is also part of the larger forest park region that houses many more cool parks. Summer is when the roses bloom and they look and smell amazing. Flower lovers can spend hours here walking through each row of roses. And astonishing how many species of roses live here. The other day I saw a ketchup and mustard rose. When you're tired of roses, you can then walk to the nearby ampitheater to chill and watch one of their many summer shows for free. Parking here can be tough it's coming here during the day. If you don't want to fight for spots, considered coming early morning or after hours.
Deedee C — Google review
It is peaceful and beautiful to walk in nature. I learned there is a 9-11 tribute rose. The variety is amazing. I came in late October when the smell wasn't so strong. Many flowers were hanging on their last breath. But it was a nice cloudy day and I enjoyed walked the park alone. They have a few trails you can walk but I wasn't properly dressed. Had I known I would have brought running shoes.
Julio P — Google review
first time visit with my friends and we really enjoyed our time- i think we just walked around smelling and admiring the roses for at least an hour and a half. i had no idea there were so many kinds of roses. it is so well maintained and beautiful with a rich history and a staple of portland. please visit! be sure to check if you will be there when the roses are blooming. we were there in early october and there were still plenty of beautiful roses to see
Allison — Google review
What an incredible garden to stroll around and be amazed at the variety of roses with every turn. I went 10/28/25, so it was fall season and the leaves on the trees brought magic to this oasis on top of the hill. I spent more time venturing over to the Sacajawea Statue, Lewis & Clark column, then over to Coming of the White Man Statue and through the Holocaust area. If you are looking for a place of solitude and serene views, then check this park out.
St C — Google review
Went exploring and car across this place. It was amazing. The flowers were still in bloom even though we went pretty late in the season. Very clean and it smelled so wonderful. Will definitely be making this one of my regular walks
Sabrina G — Google review
Wow. I’ve been to quite a few rose gardens and none are this large. Even in late Oct there were still lots of blooms. I can’t imagine the smell in summer. Plan for at least an hour if you want to see the whole thing. We loved stopping and smelling the roses 🥰
Ninette — Google review
This place was great and so pretty. Out of the hundreds, I mean hundreds of roses I saw there wasn't one blue one....a bit disappointed. Lol Steady amount of people enjoying the day. Parking I'd say wasn't hard to find but it wasn't easy either. Nice day people can be the all day. The parking price wasn't bad in my opinion, considering where I come from and pay to park. Well kept up and beautiful.
Jeri Y — Google review
The rose garden was beautifully maintained. Even though we visited outside of peak season, it was clear the gardeners take great care of the grounds. The paths were well-kept, and the remaining blooms still offered vibrant pops of color. To top it off, I even came across a kindness rock, which made the visit extra spe

Washington Park, located within the expansive Forest Park in Portland, is a must-visit destination offering an array of diverse attractions. From the Oregon Zoo and Hoyt Arboretum to the World Forestry Center and Children's Museum, there's something for everyone. The park is renowned for its International Rose Test Garden with over 10,000 rose bushes and the serene Japanese Garden, both providing stunning views of downtown and the Cascade Range mountains.
Roses are my favorite so of course I had to visit the Rose Garden. I enjoyed walking through the gardens and smelling all the different roses. The amphitheater was perfect for a break. The walk from the parking lot was very enjoyable. There’s a free trolley you can get on to make your way to the zoo and Japanese gardens too.
Jacky — Google review
Our day trip from Seattle led us straight into a dream at the Portland International Rose Garden in Washington Park. The moment we stepped in, it felt like walking onto the set of a romance movie…roses in every shade imaginable, perfectly cared for, their fragrance floating through the air like a love spell. Every turn revealed another picture-perfect scene, as if the garden itself wanted to be admired. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, where you can wander hand in hand and feel completely wrapped in beauty. Even the practical side is easy, with plenty of paid parking along the road, so the magic begins the moment you arrive. Truly a garden made for memories.
Thu L — Google review
The park is huge!!! I rode Maxi red line and got off right at the Washington Park station. The trail is underground but there are elevators that can buying you to the street level. I'm surprised how deep the rails are running underground. You will see Oregon zoo right outside. It's around $5 dollar reasonable price. I hiked the Wildwood trail. It's a little challenging for some portion of the trail but I managed to walk all the way back to the rose garden playground. The ride garden is free.

Portland is a beautiful city. Washington Park is just one of its many treasures. We visited the Japanese Garden and got a chance to hear Japanese string music played. It was like being transported to another place and time. The walk through the garden is spiritually recharging. Hubby and I experienced the calm, peace and restoration of Shinrin yoku or forest bathing. We finished our garden walk at the gift shop where they sell such curious items and inspired books. We rode the shuttle around the park to see the other attractions like the zoo and the Discovery museum. We were sad we didn’t get to visit all of the attractions for lack of time.
Lourdes P — Google review
Absolutely lovely park in Portland. So many places to explore and recreate for adults, families and really any group. Good date, reading, hammocking or walking spot.

Aesthetic is key, these parks do nothing but nail it, no matter what time of day, or year, it doesn't change a thing about the experience. That's what makes these parks, & Portland on general so perfect, almost too good to be true

The Oregon Zoo, located in the lush Washington Park, spans 64 acres and is home to nearly 3,000 animals from 90 different species, including 19 endangered ones. The zoo's exhibits are divided into five themed areas: the Great Northwest, Pacific Shores, Discovery Zone, Africa, and Elephant Lands. Visitors can observe a variety of wildlife such as elephants, polar bears, river otters, penguins and lions.
We have been to a lot of zoos and this one felt like you could get super close to all the animals. The walk was very well laid out and easy to follow even without carrying a map. The animals were well cared for, and the terrain was just beautiful. If I had an negative about the park, it might be that at times it was hard to find the trashcan, but what I really really liked was you could always find a bench and somewhere to sit to enjoy the wildlife and to rest. I do think this zoo is very well worth a trip. In about 2 1/2 hours, you can see everything and experience just some wonderful terrain to walk-through. It wasn’t too difficult or hard to climb and I always felt like I could do it in a wheelchair if I had to. One of the most interesting things I saw in this zoo was a children’s sandbox play area that looked like just the kind of things. My children would have loved when they were 2-6 years old. Parking was very interesting and you had to download a specific app, but there were kiosk where you could get a parking place without having to use the app so I was very thankful for that.

I've been here twice now as a guest of a annual pass holding zoo member. Delightful each time. Animals appear to be in great shape and have gorgeous habitats. They even accommodated for my service animal with no issues providing a special map to help guide through the zoo. I really enjoy coming here. And with the Rose garden and many other things connected around the zoo it's a lovely place to hang out for the day.

The Portland Zoo is a great place to visit, and we had a delightful time. The layout makes it easy to walk, but since most of it is concrete, definitely bring good walking shoes. The exhibits are well-designed, the animals look well-cared-for, and there’s a nice variety to see without feeling overwhelming. The grounds are clean, the signage is clear, and the paths are stroller- and kid-friendly. There are plenty of spots to stop, rest, or grab a snack, and the whole place feels well-maintained and thoughtfully organized—a great family outing and absolutely worth the visit.
Savanah E — Google review
The zoo itself was amazing. The structural aspect of the zoo is great, easy paths to follow that allows you to see all of the animals very easily without confusing path directions and such. The variety of animals is also very good. The Zoo itself has 3 restaurants/cafes all together, so if you do not want to bring food there is plenty to choose from. The grass are by the food options is also great for kids to let go of steam, have a great picnic or just to enjoy a nice break. The only thing I wish the zoo would advertise on their website is which animals are currently not available, as there were many such as the lions, spotted dogs, cheetahs etc that were not available to see due to different reasons. However, all in all is it a great zoo!
R R — Google review
Absolutely love this zoo! You’ll find a fantastic range of animals, including adorable new babies like an elephant, turtle, and ape, all thriving in spacious habitats. Visit now for minimal weekend crowds and affordable admission—perfect for a day of exploration! Bring your own snacks to save on food and skip the lines. On the downside, there’s a parking fee, and it can get super crowded in late spring and summer, making it tricky to see the animals, especially with kids. Plus, tickets are only available online now—no more at the gate! Pro tip: If you’re military, part of a group, a nonprofit, or an eligible family, you could snag discounted tickets up to 50%, so check eligibility before buying tickets!

Amazing zoo. Came here on a whim and we were blown away. I have never seen animals at a zoo so healthy looking, active and playful. The design was also great that it took you on a loop, and we loved that it was incorporated into the nature around us.

Absolutely beautiful park! Loved the mist stations all around to help keep cool on hot days. Only surprise was that the entire park is cashless but you can get a loadable MasterCard for use around the park at a kiosk that takes cash. Animals are VERY well cared for and have nice sized habitats, customized for their species. 10/10 would absolutely love to go again.

Nestled in a serene 5.5-acre space, the Portland Japanese Garden offers a stunning contrast to its surroundings. The garden showcases various styles and features a waterfall, teahouse, and mountain views. Unlike the nearby rose gardens, this AAA GEM attraction is a study in shades of green with delicate Japanese irises and water lilies adorning koi ponds.
I absolutely love this garden. I recommend more for couples and families with teenagers instead of young kids. There is no play ground. I also recommend coming in the fall ( late October) for cooler weather and beautiful leaf color changes. If you bring in a tripod, you are charged extra at the ticket booth. There is a shuttle available to get up to the garden and pack to the parking lot. The small gift shop and cafe are definitely worth checking out in the gardens too
Christina D — Google review
The gardens are absolutely beautiful. Very well maintained and clean, including the restrooms. There are many photo ops all around the grounds with a fantastic view of Portland with Mt. Hood in the background. There are memberships available for single and multiple on line and at the window and gift shop. If you purchase from the gift shop your entry fee is refunded and it affords you entry for a year and a 20% discount in the gift shop. It's definitely worth the trip. My only issue was with the parking. Not great but there is a free shuttle that goes around.

Fantastic visit to this Japanese garden. Our first time visiting Oregon from the UK and thiz was high one our list of things to see - and it didnt disappoint. The planting, pathways and structures looked fantastic. It was busy but not overly so and everything was well maintained. Food in the cafe was great as well. Plenty of nearby car parking and short queues to enter.

This is such an amazing and magical place. We visited during the fall and were blessed with beautiful fall foliage. Be sure to get the earliest timed entry tickets and arrive 30 minutes before opening to ensure you get parking. The first 5 minutes is a slight incline, but the rest of the gardens are relatively flat. Go, you won’t be disappointed. Are,sure you get timed entry

Breathtaking Gardens, But Be Prepared for the Wait We visited the Portland Japanese Garden about a week ago—absolutely stunning this time of year. The colors were unreal, and we couldn’t have timed our visit better. Every turn of the path was like stepping into a painting: moss-covered stones, fiery red maples, and soft autumn light filtering through the trees. Unfortunately, our experience started off on the wrong foot. We had an 11:15 a.m. tour booked and arrived an hour early, paid for parking, and went to get our tickets—only to be told there was a two-hour wait to enter. The website hadn’t mentioned this possibility, so our only choices were to wait around for two hours or leave, come back later, and pay for parking again. The staff seemed well-prepared for this kind of situation, which tells me it’s a common issue, but it would make a huge difference if visitors were better informed ahead of time. Thankfully, our visit happened on a Bank of America “Museums on Us” day, so admission was free, which softened the blow. Once inside, the frustration faded away—these gardens truly deserve five stars. But the lack of clear communication at the start left a disappointing first impression. Go for the beauty, but plan ahead for crowds and wait times.
R. W — Google review
We came at the perfect time for the leaves. The garden was aesthetically beautiful and vibrant. Gardens are well-maintained and in traditional Japanese fashion. It certainly had the feeling of being authentically curated. Pro tip: you have to buy tickets for a specific time so plan accordingly.

This amazing Landscaping achievement recreates the classical, contemplative nature experience of the historic Japanese gardens. It is a wonderful place to visit anytime of the year. Even when it is raining, the middle of winter, and the leaves have fallen from the deciduous trees, the Landscaping still invite you to pause in contemplation. In fact, in winter, and inclement weather, you may have this place mostly to yourself without the crowds of people to distract you. Even in the peak summer season, however, admissions, our time restricted, so it’s never overcrowded. Parking can be an issue at the popular times, and you should count for that.

The Oregon Historical Society, located in a stone building on the South Park Blocks in Portland, offers rotating exhibits that delve into the state's history and art. The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts, photographs, maps, books, films, and oral histories. Visitors can also explore the research library for free. Notable displays include the famous Portland Penny and an exhibit detailing Oregon's history from Native American settlements to pioneers arriving in the mid-19th century.
The Oregon Historical Society museum was great! It's a fun and educational experience about Oregon's history and many different events. There are tons of exhibits and lots of artwork. The museum staff are helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. The museum has four levels, with elevators and stairs. Would recommend checking it out. It's a great place to hang out with your family or visit by yourself.

We had a wonderful experience here! I want to say that the men and women who work behind the scenes on the exhibits go above and beyond and do an incredible job searching out and sifting through items and records to showcase history in a clear, honest, and interesting way. The new Yasui exhibit involves the family I married into and we were so honored and touched by the care taken in bringing our family history out so clearly and honestly. They were extremely gracious to the family members and we got a sneak peek of the exhibit. As for the rest of the place, we are going to have to go back to further explore all the treasures. They really showcase Oregon history and I believe they work hard to tell all the stories from many cultures living in our state. They said there is free admittance for Multnomah county residents! The only downside is they are located in downtown Portland and you will need to pay for parking and you may need to walk away. I believe there is a parking structure across the street and that might be a good option for some. It should be easy access for all, they have an elevator that my husband made use of because it is a large multi level place. If you don't know anything about the Japanese American internment camps during WW2, I highly encourage you to check out the Yasui exhibit telling local Japanese American history and highlighting a piece of often overlooked American history. This exhibit will be open for about a year. It is very personal and they got the stories straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.

I am so glad I came! I learned a lot about the history of the city and of the state. I was unaware of a lot of the history, and what I did learn was mainly whitewashed. Not to say this was completely comprehensive, but this went into more depth than I realized. It should not have been any surprise that the natives were not treated well at all. I could seriously have spent way more time here than what I did. Reasonable admission prices, there is a lot of information presented here. I highly recommend this museum to anyone wanting to learn more about the state of Oregon.

Excellent exhibit on trans identity in the wild west. Also a good job handling the racist and colonial roots behind the foundation of the state of OR as well as indigenous voices. I had never seen a KKK hood in real life before this day. It's important to acknowledge these realities.

Park
Tom McCall Waterfront Park is a scenic riverfront green belt in downtown Portland, offering paved paths, public art, and historical monuments. The park hosts various events and festivals like the Waterfront Blues Festival and LGBTQ Pride. Named after a governor who protected urban green spaces, it features a fountain for kids to play in and ample space for running around. Visitors can enjoy strolling, jogging, or cycling along the waterfront path while taking in the cherry blossoms during springtime.
This waterfront park is gorgeous! It was especially gorgeously beautiful in the last week of March 2025! The cherry blossom trees are breathtakingly beautiful, delicate, magical. When the wind blew, all of the people enjoying the flowers were treated to the softest pink candy fragrant flower petal shower. Being there for the cherry blossom trees’ bloom is like being in a beautiful dream!
Margot S — Google review
Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park is one of Portland’s most iconic gathering spots, especially in the spring. When the cherry blossoms are in bloom, the park transforms into a sea of pink—an absolutely magical sight that draws locals and visitors alike. Walking under the blossoms or sitting by the river as petals drift through the air feels like stepping into another world. It’s festive, lively, and one of the city’s most photogenic moments of the year. Throughout the year, the park remains a hub of activity. Joggers, cyclists, families, and groups of friends bring a constant energy to the riverside path. Festivals, events, and casual weekend outings keep the atmosphere vibrant and social. The open green spaces are perfect for picnics or simply lounging by the Willamette River. That said, the park has faced some challenges in recent years. Cleanliness and safety have become concerns, and it would benefit from more consistent upkeep to match its status as a centerpiece of the city. Ensuring that the park is well-maintained would only enhance its appeal and help preserve the welcoming, community-centered space it’s meant to be. In short, Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park is still a must-visit spot in Portland—especially during cherry blossom season, when it shines at its best. With more attention to cleanliness and safety, it could truly live up to its full potential as one of the city’s most beautiful and beloved parks.

Nestled between Reed College and the Eastmoreland Golf Course in Southeast Portland, Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden is a 5-acre botanical paradise boasting over 2,000 vibrant rhododendrons alongside various other plants and trees. The garden comes alive from late March to September when most of the flora is in full bloom, attracting a diverse array of wildlife around its serene lake.
This was my first time visiting the gardens and I was completely blown away! The grounds are fairly extensive, and neatly manicured. There are so many variety of rhododendron and azalea, along with other native flora and fauna. There are beautiful contrasts in the colors of the blooms and foliage alike. There were ponds, waterfalls, fountains, open grassy and bench seating areas as well. We witnessed a lot of wildlife as well! Ducks, geese, and even some nutria! Absolutely worth the $9 to have such an enjoyable and peaceful natural spot right here in town.

The perfect garden to walk through in the spring. The trees are green, the azaleas and rhododendron plants are in full bloom and some of the perennials are opening up. The water features are fun to explore. Attended the wedding of my son today and just loved the backdrop for the ceremony. Various walking trails, bridges and ponds/lakes to spend time exploring. There were of course ducklings to see swimming with mama duck as they explore the larger areas of the ponds. Exciting and beautiful garden. Worth a trip to wander through.

I love the little waterfalls too, adds so much zen to the garden! Beautiful park that offers spacious level paths in an incredibly relaxing environment; even outside of the flowering season for the rhododendrons and azaleas it is a must-see. There are ample areas to sit and take in the nature visually and audibly. Plenty of bird and waterfowl watching areas. Additionally, the restrooms were clean and well stocked with the necessities to get the job done!

The Grotto, a Catholic outdoor shrine in Northeast Portland, is famous for its Pieta replica in a grotto and serene botanical gardens. The site is sacred to those who are religious or Catholic, as it is one of the best sites in Portland.
Love this hidden gem. Is a unique Catholic Church surrounded by the nature. I enjoyed the peacefulness and the quietness. The upper level garden cost $10.95 which I think is worth it. Beautiful garden that you can find a place to sit and enjoy the white noise from the nature. I would recommend to visit while in Portland.

I went on a weekday and it was fairly empty. The place itself is free to visit the only thing that requires a purchase is to see the gardens above the mountain. Everything below that is beautiful and free to see. The church is nice and decorated and the sculptures outside are great. Bathrooms by the gift shop. I did buy tickets to take the elevator to the gardens and they were also cool. More sculptures and flowers up there to see. Definitely a very unique church worth visiting.

Such a peaceful and calming place The mass session was serene and uplifting, creating a sense of deep tranquility. The garden above is absolutely spectacular; it's so quiet and soothing that even speaking loudly feels out of place. It’s the kind of atmosphere that invites reflection and inner peace. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a moment of calm away from the noise of daily life.

We rented a transport wheel chair at Beaverton pharmacy to bring a friend with mobility issues. If you want to do that, I recommend a more robust chair. The pathways are a bit uneven, but we were able to navigate well, and other visitors were beyond kind, helping us navigate the ramps and elevator. The church is gorgeous and welcoming. Staff members, some of whom live on grounds, are so hospitable and spiritual. It was deeply moving to receive their warm welcome regardless of denomination. This is a wonderful choice for a jubilee pilgrimage church! The art along the pathways is so beautiful. Many types of plants and trees are lovely and fresh, it is cool under the branches. We even saw tad poles! I hope to come again soon. I recommend arriving by 10:30 so you can visit the gift shop to buy mementos and candles then go to 11:00 am confession and have them blessed at the same time. I think mass is at noon.

A serene, beautiful place to find stillness and peace even if you're not catholic. There is a garden area up top that over looks the city. Here you find little areas to sit, meditate, pray or leave some tears behind. Walk around or sit to find clarity. On the grounds where your enter, there is a large gift shop to find a little gem to help amplify you prayers or guide your manifestations. Daily mass indoors and outdoors that you can flow in and out of. There are saints along the walking area that you can visit. There is a smaller shop towards the back where you can also purchase candles to leave at the altar area. Be sure to visit during Christmas time. A spectacular show of lights flood the ground and there are chiors and special services.

Great concert and event space! Nice natural amphitheater and food trucks when they are open. They offer a misting tent in the summer with concerts and in the winter a huge tree lighting.
Mashall S — Google review
Love this place, love the immersion, and the brick everything... Honestly if it weren't for aggressive homeless/addicts it would be a five stars but that's likely always going to be the case given the location. Summer concerts are amazing here.

Downtown Portland surprised me with its charming, almost European vibe—walkable streets, cozy cafés, and beautiful old buildings. There’s a laid-back energy, lots of greenery, and plenty of spots to sit and people-watch. It feels both relaxed and cultured, like a little slice of Europe in the PNW. It seems cleaner and safer now than few months and even years before. But not quite pre covid though.
Marta S — Google review
Nothing to really do here. The courthouse is pretty, but the square itself was closed off for vendors to set up. If we waited we could have grabbed food, but we didn't go there to eat
Cigal S — Google review

Hiking area
Hoyt Arboretum, nestled in a 190-acre park, is a haven for nature enthusiasts and hikers alike. Its network of trails spans 12 miles, offering a chance to explore thousands of native and endangered trees. The Overlook Trail, with its paved paths and mild slopes, provides stunning views of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier on clear days.
Beautiful area to walk one or multiple trails. The Redwoods were beautiful. They have a small gift shop & 2 unisex bathrooms outside the gift shop, with a sink. The free shuttle has a drop off location at Hoyt. One short trail gives a beautiful view on a clear day of Mt Rainer & Mt St Helen. I had a great visit! Hoyt Arboretum is free and has no entrance gate.

This place was absolutely beautiful. I saw a tree i definitely would love to have on my forever home property - The Japanese Hornbeam. The Vietnam Living Memorial is such a great idea. I love the idea of a memorial that gives back to the Earth. Plus it doesn't just have names of their veterans, but info on what else was happening in their towns during that time. The rose gardens were absolutely amazing. The wide variety of roses was breathtaking. It was nice to see so many still in bloom. I think that was because roses have two bloom seasons and I just happened to visit during the second blooming season, late September. I will definitely visit this place the next time I'm in Portland.

Our family enjoys visiting this place for a peaceful and beautiful stroll. The fall is definitely a great time to visit with all the trees changing colors. Volunteers are sometimes walking about and can help you navigate the area if you're looking for anything in particular. There are paved paths and some gravel paths. You'll either pay for parking or park on the road. Keep in mind the parking lot tends to fill up quickly during peak times, like weekends and nice weather.

Wooooooow! I was not expecting this to be one oc my favorite parts of Washington park!! What an incredible series lf trails and trees! Amazing diversity and size! Truly felt like I was in the redwoods at times! We were able to walk all the way to pittock mansion following the redwood trail and it was great! Nice and shaded!

This was my first time going to Hoyt Arboretum but it definitely won't be my last. Such a beautiful place to reconnect with nature. I went early in the morning on a weekday and I couldn't have picked a better time. It was so peaceful and had many of the trails to myself. I stuck to the flatter trails, as my shoes were more for strolling than hiking.I can't wait to explore more of the area and bring my sneakers to check out some of the slightly steeper trails. It's a great place for beginners like me! 🌳🚶‍♀️🌲

Hoyt Arboretum is a beautiful place to spend a day outdoors. We enjoyed a wonderful 2-hour hike through the lush trails, taking the Wildwood Trail up to Pittock Mansion via the scenic Barbara Walker Crossing. It’s peaceful, well-maintained, and a great way to connect with nature right in the city. Perfect spot for an easy adventure!

From the moment I saw a photo of the Redwood Observation Deck on Pinterest, I knew this was where I wanted to get married. There was something dreamlike about the tall Redwoods towering over the deck, and the light filtering through the trees. It looked like it belonged in a fairytale. Seeing it in person on our wedding day was even more breathtaking than I imagined. Booking the venue was a unique experience. Portland Parks & Rec operates on a lottery system, so we had to line up outside their office early in the morning to get our permit. It felt a little old-school, but it also made the process kind of special and exciting. Once we secured our date, everything else fell into place. The day-of experience was flawless. While a few of our out-of-town guests had a bit of trouble finding the entrance to Bray Lane (where the trailhead begins), once they arrived, it was only a short, easy walk to the deck. Despite being in a public park, the area felt incredibly private. The few joggers we passed were respectful, and there were no interruptions or background noise — just the quiet, calming presence of the forest. We were lucky to have a beautiful August afternoon. The weather was warm and golden, and the light filtering through the canopy and our chuppah created this soft, ethereal glow. Guests couldn't stop talking about how magical the space felt. It was serene, intimate, and completely unforgettable. If you're dreaming of a natural, woodsy wedding that feels tucked away from the world (while still being in Portland!), I can't recommend the Redwood Observation Deck enough. It’s already a popular choice for a reason, and after our experience, I understand why. Truly a hidden gem in the heart of the city.

Hoyt arboretum is a wonderful place to take a walk or even a hike any day of the week. It can get a bit crowded when they host weddings but the trails make it worth it. I feel like it is one of my favorite places to decompress after a day of work.

Oaks Amusement Park, established in 1905, is a family-friendly destination featuring a variety of attractions. The park boasts one of the oldest roller rinks in the country and offers activities such as mini-golf, classic carnival games, and an array of rides suitable for all ages. From the historic Carousel to bumper cars and a Ferris wheel, there are over 20 rides to enjoy.
My family had a fantastic time at this vintage amusement park, which opened in 1905. Grandpa (me) even tried a few thrill rides for the first time in many years—Tilt-A-Whirl and Scrambler and survived! The bumper cars were a blast as well. The grandkids, ages 11 and 8, were in Nirvana at the Oaks. It was an overcast day and it rained occasionally but we didn’t mind because lines were short. Highly recommended!

Had a really fun day at the park yesterday with my kiddo and nieces. There was a nice variety of rides which even my short little two-year-old could enjoy. We went on a kids' day where adults are free and you pay for the kids' tickets and they just need an adult on some rides. The staff could use some training so they know how many spots they can fit. Lots of unnecessary delays because the staff were undertrained. Overall very fun. Kids had a blast which is all we could ask for.

8/16/25: so much has changed since I last came to Oaks Parks! 💫💫 Last time I came was about 5 years ago?! 😅😊 ❤️ No entrance fee, yay! (Glad this hasn't changed!🙏). The staffs are friendly 🩷 🎢 Cost for rides: depends on height and safety requirement, if accompanying child under 48" (4 feet), age (if senior, 62 years and older), you can add-on Roller Skate, etc. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth. 🚫💵 Payments are cashless (NO cash) 💳 👍 pay for parking--parking machines does not accept cash (Lots of parking machines near the entrance. Have your car license number ready!) 😋 Lots of food selections: Burgers, fries, pizza, chicken tenders and more! There's also lots of food carts! 🚙 parking is plenty by the Roller Rink area. Hard to find parking near the entrance. 🎠🎡🎢🚂 LOTS of things to do! Lots of rides! Lots of games to play! And lots of food to eat! 👾 lots of games and arcade games: you'll need to purchase tickets for certain games (tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth); and you'll need a game card for certain games (game card can be purchased near the games). 🩷 highly recommended for the whole family! Definitely would come back again! 🩷😊

First time visiting this amusement park and it's one of my favorite 😍! First amusement park I've been to that has no entrance fee and affordable parking only $4. The tickets price is great since it grants you access to pretty much all the rides. There's plenty entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Many food selections and they have special events as well...Halloween event this weekend! Most importantly I noticed that the staff double and triple check for safety on all the rides I was on. I would definitely visit again and recommend this park to others!

So awsome! The big roller coaster is so smooth and exciting but not painful like some can be. The smller Rollercoaster definitely not the same quality in build. We were surprised about the gocarts. Didn't even notice while planning so it was a perfect surprise. We got the unlimited bracelets with the rollerskating add on. I was very impressed with the rink. Just like the good old days! There is a looong practice area just outside the rink so people can get used to being on wheels. Not a fan of the bumper cars! It's called something else and you are supposed to everyone drive one direction. Like I need to go to an amusement park to experience grid lock traffic in what supposed to be bumper cars. Dumb lol. Over all so great. We will definitely be back
Marnie G — Google review
I was very impressed with the haunted houses. They had 3 of them, and they had a lot of characters running around very scary or very friendly. We went on a Sunday and there wasn't much of a wait. We were able to do all 3 haunted houses in an hour. There was one haunted house that had a lot of strobe lights at the end. So if that bothers you definitely be careful of that But it had a good amount of scare and darkness in each haunted house.

Visited this place to watch the Rose City Roller Derby game! The park itself was closed, but a fun venue for to watch roller derby! Side note however, do NOT sit by the entry door of the arena! The out houses give inside the place a pretty awful smell! 😖 Was a fun experience tho and would definitely visit the park when its open! Looked really fun!! ❤️

Mt. Tabor Park is a large forested park situated on an extinct volcanic vent, offering a variety of activities such as tennis courts and playgrounds. Despite not being the tallest viewpoint, it provides a 360-degree panoramic view of the Portland metro area, including the city skyline, West Hills, East Portland, and distant mountain views. The park's Douglas Firs may obstruct some vistas but walking up the rocky mountain rewards hikers with stunning scenery.
On an extremely hot day, I sought shade in the forest and found this perfect spot to walk my dogs and cool off beneath the deep, leafy canopy. It’s a wonderful place to escape the heat. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a tranquil space right in the middle of the city. There happened to be a concert taking place, and it turned out to be an ideal spot for a relaxed picnic. Highly recommended.
Kai D — Google review
This park is on a mountain with pretty steep elevation, so if you're not ready to climb, I would suggest just driving up and parking the car by the street and climbing from the reservoir area. It's much easier. The view is beautiful, especially from the peak of the park, and there are trails for both walkers and bicycle riders. There is also a dog park on the south side, which I haven't gone to, but I see many people walking their dogs heading down to that area. There are two reservoirs on the west side, providing a good view towards downtown, and picnic or camping right by the water.
Nan L — Google review
This was mine and my husband's first time at this park and we really enjoyed it! It was beautiful. LOTS of trails to enjoy. Those stairs are unforgiving as heck 🤣. It's definitely a busier park, but with how many trails there are, everyone is spaced out, and everyone we ran into was very nice. We will definitely be back to take a crack at the trails we didn't get to.
Melissa W — Google review
Mt Tabor is an exquisite park located on an ancient volcano! That's right, Google it! It provides a stellar view of not only downtown Portland (from sunrise to sunset) but also part of the Portland Metro. During the summer, Mt Tabor hosts Tabor Dance, which is a "rave-like" free event that puts on 3 local DJs; donations help support this event and let's them keep coming back. It houses 2 large water reservoirs, adding to beauty of the space! If you're new or visiting, make a trek up to Mt Tabor, you won't be disappointed!

I've been coming here for 30 years and really love this place. You see a lot of like minded people that are just there for the beauty and the peaceful experience of being on top amount tabor. There's also a basketball court there and places to picnic. Maybe have a barbecue, but it's just beauty. You're so high up above the city. You can see very beautiful vantage points from different places

One of the better views in Portland. The off leash dog park is pretty nice, and there are lots of trails to enjoy. Note that this is a popular spot, so you will see a lot of other people on the trails and in the park.

I live near Mt. Tabor park, and absolutely love going on late night walks there. It’s a really calm and peaceful environment, not to mention the basketball court surrounded by trees, tennis courts, and playground. And on Wednesdays they close off the roads for cars, so you can skate/ bike on the roads. Overall I think Mt. Tabor is an amazing place.

OMSI, short for Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, is a popular attraction in Portland offering a wide range of interactive and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. The museum features rotating shows, science labs, submarine tours, and a planetarium. It also hosts monthly 21+ events.
I went last week and really enjoyed the science museum. I can only imagine how much cooler it would be if I was a small child! Bright colours, high ceiling, lots of interactive educational activities- this place has it all! I did not see the Jurassic Park exhibit or go to the planetarium, but I would love to go see both the next time I'm in the area! Designed for kids, but people of all ages can find something interesting to learn about here. The gift shop is great too!!

We went on a Tuesday before heading back home after we had been hanging out in Portland for a few days. Parking was close and easy although required us to download yet another parking app. We went and saw the Lego Jurassic World exhibit which was very cool. Fun interactive displays in addition to the major builds on display. Then out into the Turbine Room for a bunch of hands on science. Everyone had a good time.
Gavin S — Google review
This was my first visit to OMSI, and I can see why so many people love it. The hands-on exhibits and interactive science areas are really well done — perfect for learning while having fun. It’s a great place to explore for a few hours and sparks curiosity in every age group. We also went to see the Earth movie, which was visually beautiful but mostly focused on climate change, so it wasn’t quite what I expected. Still, I enjoyed the overall experience and would definitely come back to explore more exhibits next time.
Stacey H — Google review
Went to OMSI with a friend and had such a great time! The Monsters of the Abyss: Aquatic Predators Past + Present exhibit was fascinating — we even met a Caiman lizard named Crunch, who’s related to the prehistoric Megalania! The exhibit was full of interesting creatures and incredible displays. We also went to the planetarium, toured the USS Blueback submarine, and spent time in the engineering labs, which were so much fun. Everything was super engaging and well put together. OMSI is always a blast — definitely worth a visit for adults too, not just kids!
Kelsee H — Google review
Nov 2025 visit Mainly only downstairs with 2 rooms: the monsters exhibit and the large activities room. I visited for about an hour. The Monsters of the Abyss exhibit is very interesting and informative. The individual stations are very well made with signage in both English and Spanish. There was a paper passport to stamp at 6 stations. I wasn't ready to see a planetarium show so I visited the activities room. All geared towards younger children, perhaps younger grade school. It was quite busy and full of kids and parents. There's a water fountain and bottle refill station in the activities room and restrooms. I did enjoy watching the metal balls on the wire tracks. Quite similar to the one in SJC Terminal A and the San Jose Tech Museum. I visited with the BoA MOU program.
Ali C — Google review
We went to Brickman and it was amazing!! Good mix of exhibits and hands on. The rest of the museum wasn't what I think of when I think museum. No big exhibits, not a lot of info. But they had a room that was an engineers dream. Lots of problems to solve and hands on activities. My kids could have spent all day in that one room. Had a great time, but cost seemed high for what you got. Didn't but tickets ahead of time as AAA discount is offered in person.

This is a lovely museum. Has a large interactive section for kids, also some cool exhibits. We didn’t get to see one but the films looked great

We LOVE OMSI! Went ahead and got the membership which if you have young children, just the upstairs area alone is worth the membership but the facility is expansive and there is so much to do to keep people of all ages entertained and gripped with wonder and education. We have been several times now and have yet to see all OMSI has to offer!

Hiking Trails
Forest Park is a sprawling 5,000-acre wooded area located just west of downtown Portland, Oregon. It offers over 70 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and bird-watching, making it a top recommendation for outdoor activities in the city. The park's old growth forests are filled with Douglas Firs, Western Hemlocks, Big Leaf Maples, and Red Alder Trees.
Place: *Many trails here so you feel secluded though it is a very popular hiking area. *Not an exaggeration, this is an enchanting beautiful green forest. *Local and touristic. Pet: *Dog friendly. *Dogs must be in leash. *Dogs will love this place! Pros: *Cooling temperature all year around. *Easy to find parking (came at 6:30pm on a Sunday & 6pm on weekdays). *Running/jogging friendly place. Cons: *No trash bins. *Visible amount of poop bags. *Some dead end trails. Tips: *Check out the classy, tasteful & unique line of houses around Forest Park. *Know there are no bins; if you bring your dog you will have to carry the poop bag throughout the hike or take it with you. *2 loop trails doable for couple hrs - see photo.

This place is absolutely beautiful! Highly recommend. It is a dog friendly trail. Trail was pretty muddy so make sure to wear good shoes to hike in.
Jamie G — Google review
Forest park is really a special place in my opinion, throughout my life it's been a bit of a getaway to me and it's always almost felt like a place you would hear about in books. The most impressive thing about it is it's location, nestled just outside one of the largest cities in oregon, you can go from portland to dozens of miles of forest trail in less than 20 minutes (if traffic permits it) and once you're there it feels uniquely isolated for how close it is to the city. The park provides a plethora of outdoor activities such as bird watching, photography, hiking and identifying the wild variety of plants in the area. It's kind of a must see for me whenever i have someone visiting out of state that's at all into the outdoors and I've never had anyone be disappointed, even if they come from a place with more exotic plants or forestry it's still a fairly unique experience
Jesse L — Google review
Last week I started my hike from the trailhead off of Skyline Boulevard. The trail is well maintained, peaceful and it feels clean and safe. Frankly, the health of the forest is spectacular. It is a wonderful place to find your center, fill your lungs with fresh air and appreciate the beauty that rages beneath our noses when we're not noticing it. The trail is steep in some places. It wasn't crowded with people, but there was a runner and a dog walker. I was happy that I had brought my trekking poles to help with my stability on the ascents and descents.
Tara H — Google review
Largest urban park in the US! Forest Park’s jewel is the Wildwood Trail marked by blue diamonds. All other trails branch from that. Good for year-round hiking on well-maintained trails through old-growth forest. Highly recommend for a quick escape from the city to a mossy wonderland.
Tiffany O — Google review
Amazing trails and beautiful scenery. Trails are very long, but have nice paths(other than mud, which is natural) and decent amount of signs to be able to tell where you are going and what trail you want to go on. Signs are scattered at important intersections and are fairly easy to read.
Trever R — Google review
This is a great trail. Wide enough to walk easily but still has essence of a forest trail. Parking is easy as they have added extra gravel bank (careful, it’s slippery). We passed many fellow hikers (in masks). All were friendly. Signage is clear and all bridges, trails well maintained.
Keith N — Google review
This is such a beautiful park! For being so close to the city, it's actually very quiet. Even on a Saturday morning you don't see many people on the trails and most of the people you will see are runners, so it's not very crowded. The Leif Erikson drive trail is more of a bike path so that trail is pretty populated with people on bikes as well as runners and hikers. So if you are looking for more of secluded hike among the forest I would stick to the other trails. But you do get some great views of the mountains from some points on Leif Erikson. Overall this park is extremely beautiful and a great place to get away and be out in the fresh air and get a good excercise in. There are many connecting trails and lots of different ways you can make a loop hike, long or short. My husband and I recently moved here from Ohio and this park has been a great escape and a pleasant surprise!

Nestled in the verdant Washington Park, the World Forestry Center is a captivating 20,000-square-foot museum dedicated to all things related to trees and forests. The center features an impressive array of hands-on exhibits designed to educate visitors about sustainable forest management, mass timber, and logging culture. Inside the lodge-like building, guests can marvel at a five-million-year-old petrified Giant Sequoia stump and explore displays showcasing different types of forests from around the world.
This museum has something for everyone and would be great for groups, especially for children. There's a great mix of science, industry, nature, art, culture, and hands-on exhibits as well as a fountain courtyard. Most of the exhibits are wheelchair accessible with the exception of the underground animals display and the tractor that you can sit in. We spent about 2 hours here but if you want to read everything and view all of the videos you might need to double that. I loved the Following Fire photography exhibit, I found it very moving and ecologically fascinating. Glad I got to see it before it goes away in March.

A very cool place to visit with your little ones. There's lots of giant things to look at like a tree in the center, a tractor you can go into, things to explore. Lots of things to interact with. Prices are great too. A good place to spend an hour or two. The gift shop has changed and is now smaller but I heard they might slowly bring it back.

Pretty neat experience! Nothing too long or too expensive! 8 dollars per adult and it will likely take about 40 mins if you see everything. What a gorgeous center! My teenager had an open house event for his school hosted at the World Forestry Center and it was an amazing experience! The aesthetics are incredible and the information is presented in a fully interactive manner which makes it even more interesting. We saw children and adults of all ages enjoying the exhibits throughout. There’s also a large arboretum with walking paths that is adjacent and is breathtaking in the fall and spring, especially! As a local, this place has been on my list for years. I found myself in the area this Friday afternoon and finally made a visit. Parking can be very tricky in this neighborhood, especially on a nice day, but I lucked out on a nearby dead end street (24th Place off Vaughn). This is such a cool gem in the NW area! It very much has that roadside attraction/oddities vibe. Great photo ops if you’re with friends! Parts of it almost made me think of a low budget Meow Wolf as it’s somewhat interactive. There is a LOT to see. You could go through it all twice and notice new things the second time. I also really enjoyed the gift shop, which was just as quirky with a lot to see as well! I ended up getting a 3D bat air freshener for my car, but they had a TON of cool sunglasses, stickers, and enamel pins.

The Eastbank Esplanade in Portland is a 1.5-mile paved trail along the Willamette River, offering stunning views of the city's skyline and urban landmarks like the Steel and Hawthorne bridges. It's a popular spot for running, biking, or simply strolling while taking in the river scenery and architectural marvels. The esplanade features various sculptures and artworks, creating an inviting atmosphere for leisurely walks or bike rides.
One of the best spots to see and capture Downtown Portland with Willamette River! But unfortunately many homeless people around in that area as well... All photos attached are my work and copyrighted. Hope you enjoy them! (the pano images are from captured with drone!)

While the path is well-maintained and popular among locals, it’s advisable to exercise caution during early mornings or late evenings due to limited lighting in some areas.

Great place for a stroll with a friend or a bike ride. At times it can be very busy and some bike riders are crazy,so stay alert. Love the city views!

The night view of Portland Downtown is breathlessly spectacular. The instagram worthy corner does not get enough promotion. It is not crowded at all and there is no basic security in the area.

Highly enjoy skating the East Bank across the river and back again. It's a fun loop. Sometimes solo, and mainly with friends from Bridge City Skate (follow on IG, join us!) I rollerblade during nice weather, and into the night time. Pavement is mainly smooth for the most part. Lots of great views of the river and the waterfront. It's beautiful day and night!

It is a serene and captivating riverside escape. With its well-maintained pathways, stunning views of the Willamette River, and a variety of recreational activities, this urban oasis is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and outdoor lovers. Whether you prefer leisurely strolls, invigorating bike rides, or peaceful moments by the water, Eastbank Esplanade offers a picturesque and accessible retreat that guarantees a memorable experience. For those looking to enjoy the river, the Eastbank Esplanade boasts several public docks, perfect for launching kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards. Gliding along the calm waters of the Willamette River, you'll be treated to stunning views of the city skyline and the majestic Mount Hood in the distance. It's an absolute treat for water enthusiasts seeking a peaceful and immersive experience.

Love this place, minus the confusing sign how to pay for parking. Understandable due to the COVID season. Also just a mental note don’t leave any valuable in the car because there are lots of homeless people roaming around. Not trying to be discriminate, more of being safe than sorry.

Located in the southernmost end of Portland's Forest Park, Witch's Castle is a fascinating site with a mysterious past. Despite its name, it is not actually a castle nor was it ever inhabited by witches. This old stone building, dating back to the 1930s, was originally used as a public bathroom for hikers and later served as the park ranger station.
The "witches castle" is cool, but honestly even the walk to it and around it is just beautiful. A lovely little stream running along the trail. The trail has a few spots the had water runoff over it but other than that the trail was very decent. Also, lots of parking.. I think I saw 3 or 4 different lots.
Valerie K — Google review
The path to Witch’s Castle feels like the beginning of a tale…just a short half-mile walk, with the trail dipping down as if leading you into another world. When the stone walls of the castle appear, covered in layers of graffiti, it doesn’t feel ruined but it feels alive, like the forest and time have been painting it together. The colors make it eerie and mysterious, as though the castle keeps secrets whispered in the moss. Perfect for wandering with a sense of curiosity… or staging a Halloween photo shoot straight out of a ghost story. Bonus: we found a banana slug on the trail !
Thu L — Google review
The hike next to the creek is beautiful, east to moderate walking some tree limbs and mud and fun to cross the bridge. But unfortunately people have desecrated (the old building) Witches castle with spray paint. While I was there, two teenagers were leaving alcohol and smoking in it while I was trying to get my pictures….
Cecilia T — Google review
We took the shorter 0.5 mile hike from the Upper Macleay parking lot. Awesome hike, would have been a short hike but we kept stopping to take photos and enjoy the views. The Witch's Castle itself was so cool and there were friendly people around just enjoying the day.

People have ruined what would have been a cool spot. We hiked down from the parking lot off the road. We were saddened to see so much graffiti. I think it tool away from the experience! Try and go at a time to avoid the heat otherwise it was a nice little hike.

The Oregon Rail Heritage Center is a meticulously curated indoor museum located in the inner Southeast industrial district of Portland. It houses historic exhibits, detailed maps, and memorabilia showcasing the rich railroad history of the Pacific Northwest. Visitors can explore multiple restored trains, some of which are operational, including the stunning Art Deco-influenced Southern Pacific 4449, Spokane, Portland & Seattle 700, and Oregon Railway & Navigation 197 steam locomotives.
Super rail museum with operational units. Very helpful and friendly volunteers who provide history and can answer questions. Also have a bathroom and water bottle refill station. Great gift shop, too!

The effort put into the entire experience at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center was special. All the staff were really friendly and engaging, and the atmosphere in the main center was wonderful and family oriented. The same can be said for their train tour as well. Its a 5 mile back and forth ride on a well maintained steam engine with several cars. Each of the cars offers a wonderful experience, one even including ac wich was very nice. Will definitely be coming back to experience this again!

This is my third visit and I never get tired of it. There is always something new to discover. The staff is totally awesome and passionate about trains. So much wonderful history is preserved there. I learned there that unique trains can earn their listings in the National Register of Historic Places. It comes along with tax credits. There is hope for the E550-025 Electric locomotive from Italy, abandoned to rust since 1968 by the National Museum of Transportation of St Louis Missouri. Don't accept historic trains to let them decrepit. Portland doesn't do that.

Portland Spirit Cruises and Events offers a variety of cruising experiences around the Portland waterways, catering to couples or large groups. Whether you're interested in city tours, explorer boat tours, or Columbia Gorge cruises, there's something for every adventurer. The website provides easy navigation to help you choose the best tour for your family. While the food may be average and prices are relatively high, the breathtaking views of mansions and wildlife make it worthwhile.
Took part in the 9 hour 3 story Spirited Cruise event on 14 May 2025, with 3 full meals provided, from the Willamette River in Portland up the Columbia River to Astoria OR, then got on a 2 hour Greyhound type of bus all the way back to Portland to finish this amazing trip. They conduct this kind of all day river cruise, currently twice a year. I got lucky enough to purchase a $230 ticket after several people cancelled by placing myself on the wait-list. Definitely an amazing experience whether with others or alone, it's fantastic either way. Definitely remember to bring proper weather gear and backup battery packs for your electronics, such as phones.

We were booked on the Crystal Dolphin for a private event and we loved it! The food was great, and the open bar offered pretty much any drink you wanted, made by Devyn, the wonderful bartender! The boat was clean and well-maintained, and the route was very scenic. Word of warning, though: the journey up the hill from the boat to the parking lot is tough if you've enjoyed the open bar!

Went with the Brunch Cruise for my Grandma's first time to PDX. Food, live music, our server Boone, the tour, everything was top notch. Highly recommend. My only complaint was we didn't bring enough cash for a tip and bc we didn't make a purchase we couldn't card tip. I will be sure to drop something off another time. Also I am gluten free and had a wonderful assortment to choose from.

We had a wonderful time 🥳 our anniversary on this dinner cruise. The meal was delicious. We had the lamb and the veggies lasagna. Drinks were good. But the best part of the trip was our server Maddie (Mattie?). Not only was sha an excellent server, she also got up and sang a couple times, she did some announcements (like our anniversary)and gave some information about local landmarks we could see. I also really enjoyed the historical information about all of the Portland bridges as we passed under them. If you're considering Portland Pirit cruises, don't wait. Purchase your tickets now! It's definitely worth it.

This short boat ride down the Willamette River turned out to be very educational and a lot of fun. The weather was perfect on the day we sailed. We sat up top (after reading reviews about people not being able to hear the narrative down below) and had no problem hearing everything. We stood at a table along the side and had a perfect view of the sights along the river, including its many bridges. It was a very relaxing cruise with everyone seeming to have a great time and interacting with each other. Getting on and off was fairly easy but I would not recommend high heels. If you want to sit up top, it seems to fill up very quickly so arrive early.

Portland Spirit offers a wide range of cruises, but from our experience I'd say any cruise with them is sure to be memorable. For our stay, we chose to book the 7 Wonders of the Gorge Jetboat Cruise, which we booked via Viator about two days in advance. It seems that booking through a third-party, especially on this cruise which has a smaller capacity, might not be the best idea since overbooking can happen, but the team was very accommodating and while we didn't have an issue, I do recommend either booking directly through their website or calling ahead to confirm your reservation a few hours in advance. Our tour guide, Silas, deserves his own paragraph because I think the cruise was as good as it was only because we had an amazing guide. He got to know as many passengers on the cruise and made sure to point out landmarks and points of interest to everyone, even tailoring some of the tour to those who had particular interests, such as bridges, wildlife, or waterfalls. It was simply unreal how much we got to see on the tour, and while I didn't keep track of all the wonders of the gorge, I had a great time and got plenty of pictures to show my coworkers back home. I would definitely suggest to show up early, especially with smaller cruises like this. The guides typically offer a lot of information before the cruise departs, and you also have a chance to use the restroom and fill up water bottles before you go on your cruise.

The Haunted Underground Shanghai Tunnels Tour offers a unique exploration of Portland's historic Chinatown tunnels, which were rumored to have ties to organized crime. Dating back to the mid-19th century, these underground passages were used for illicit activities and connecting docks to basements of establishments. Visitors can join guided ghost, heritage, and cultural tours to delve into the mysterious history of the tunnels.
We absolutely loved our experience at Old Town Pizza & Brewery! We got the house special pizza and garlic knots. Both were absolutely delicious! We also sampled a few of the Old Town Brewery beers and enjoyed all We tried. We did the haunted history tour of the tunnels and loved every minute! The tour was so informative and fun and our tour guide, Natasha was phenomenal! Highly recommend you do it all!!

This was a fun activity my fiance and I did on our date night. Natasha was a great tour guide! I enjoyed learning about the history in a fun way. I'm not much of s beer drinker, but the beer at the end was a nice way to end the night. Natasha was very knowledgeable in not only Portland history, but in architecture as well as many other things. Her quirky personality was a fantastic addition to the tour. I highly recommend giving this a try.

Great tour! Our guide, Doug, was really fun and had some great stories. I learned a lot about Portland in the creepiest way possible. Are there ghosts? Maybe, but the tunnels are definitely eerie. Would absolutely recommend!

We were visiting Portland for the weekend and wanted to do something unique. We found this tour and decided to check it out. From a historical standpoint- it’s interesting to see the ‘underground’ side of Portland and walk through a historic building. The pizza place upstairs is cool and pizza smells fantastic. In terms of spookiness, we weren’t necessarily freaked out by the tour but the tour guide (Natasha) did a good job of added some fun stories to help set the mood for spooky time. The tour takes about 1.5 hours. It was a little pricey but overall we are glad we did it.
BackpackingAndy — Google review
I’ve been wanting to do this for a few years now. I love history, and the building is cool. Our tour guide was awesome - engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining. The tunnels were also cool, but the majority of the haunted “stories” are literally just hearsay. It was a lot of “my coworker said they saw”, or “I heard that during a different tour” or “a former employee said they had something happen”, kind of thing. The trap doors are all fake and everything else in the tunnels are recreations of what they believed it to be like during the time the tunnels were originally used. (There is a real sealed trap door in the restaurant under a couch, though). They also aren’t “tunnels” anymore, so much as the basements of Old Town Pizza and one or two of the surrounding buildings. I wish there was an option for a non-drinking guest to have a tasting of anything during the tour. Thankfully I was able to take the included pint of beer to-go at the end of the night to bring to my partner, but otherwise it would be nice to either have a slightly discounted ticket for people who either don’t drink or are gluten-free, or maybe even a soda. Overall, I probably would not go again and it wouldn't be on one of my “must-do in Portland” lists, but if you like history-adjacent storytelling, this is a fun activity to do on a date or with a friend once.
L — Google review
Natasha was the greatest tour guide ever! She turned history into fascinating tales of greed, corruption, human trafficking, and other sordid crimes - her flair and knowledge brought everything to life, keeping us entertained, educated, and safe. The tunnels are spooky and creepy, but an amazing reminder of how far humanity has come and how far it has to go. The craft beer tasting in a replica tunnel speakeasy topped off the night in a grand fashion. This was worth every penny and more...Natasha deserves a raise 😊
Melissa M — Google review
Call it a “tunnel tour”, call it “Things that go BUMP in the basement”, but what you won’t call it is “dull”. This was a great fun and educational night with Natasha bringing great energy to being our comprehensive guide… and the beer’s good too! Would recommend the penultimate tour time each day so you emerge to a still vibrant bar.
Stephen A — Google review
The Haunted Shanghai Tunnel Tour was an incredible experience, made even better by our phenomenal tour guide. He was an unbelievable storyteller, weaving together chilling tales of Portland’s past with fascinating historical details. Though I don’t usually believe in ghosts, I might after hearing the eerie and crazy stories—especially those about the old hotel and the mysterious woman who once lived there. Beyond the supernatural, the guide was a wealth of knowledge about old Chinatown, sharing insights that made the tour both spooky and historically enriching. To top it all off, the pizza place upstairs was absolutely phenomenal! The entire experience was thoroughly enjoyable, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of history, mystery, and a little bit of ghostly intrigue.

Stark's Vacuum Museum, located near the Burnside Bridge in Portland, is a unique ode to the history of vacuum cleaners. The museum houses over 300 vacuum models dating from the late 19th century to the present day. A recent remodel added an informative timeline display. While some may question its classification as a museum due to its size, it offers an intriguing collection for those interested in vintage vacuums or seeking a quirky party trick.
I'm giving it a 5 star because penalizing an establishment for a potentially lackluster "museum" isn't fair. It's more of a business play than anything else. If you're in the market for a vacuum come here and get a rep to teach you about what's needed to meet your needs. Apparently a good vacuum starts around 400 dollars and one must avoid robot vacuums because they're not as great despite the lack of human touch needed.
K.M.A. — Google review

When traveling, my family likes to check out unusual museums and often finds a diamond in the rough. The Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY and the Banjo Museum in OKC are two stellar examples. We were hoping this would be, too. Although they had some neat examples going back to the first consumer vacuums, it was a pretty small display. The highlight for me was that they had the EXACT canister vac from the 50s that my Grandmother had, so that brought back some memories. They also have all manner of high end new vacuum cleaners for sale, so if you're in the market for something like that, have at it. All of that said, it was free and briefly interesting. So, if you're in the area, by all means, stop by.
Zac C — Google review
This is a joke! And a bad one at that. It's nothing like a museum. It's just a bunch of old vacuums on a wall. The entire " museum" is 20 feet long and 8 feet high. I would recommend this if you have out of town relatives that you don't want to come back.

Portland Center Stage is a prominent theater company housed in a converted armory featuring two stages: a 590-seat main stage and an intimate studio theater below. The venue presents classical and contemporary plays and musicals, often with fresh interpretations. One of its productions, Coriolanus, offers a modernized take on the Shakespearean tragedy with an eager female and nonbinary cast. The season's programming reflects political themes, making it didactic yet entertaining.
Wonderful place to see a play! Intimate theater with great acoustics and sight lines. Lobby bar serves beer and wine.

"Portland Center Stage is an exceptional venue that hosts a range of captivating plays. Its offerings tend to lean towards the sophisticated & snoopy, which, while impressive, might not resonate with everyone. It would be fantastic to see them introduce plays that are a bit more accessible to the general public. Making the themes and narratives easier to grasp could help attract a broader audience, ensuring more people can enjoy the magic of live theater. Regardless, it remains a top spot for those who appreciate high-quality productions.

We used to love coming here for several years but now we've moved on to other theaters. Every production here has a social justice theme, gay characters, minority issues, or a Liberal message. What happened to simple fun entertainment with great actors from all walks of life telling interesting and funny stories. We get beat down with constant politics day in and day out and just want to have a couple hours of enjoyment.

I was lucky enough to sit front row for Larry Owen’s, tour de force, Sondheimia this past Monday. It was nothing short of revelatory. I love everything about the Portland Center Stage. They make live theater accessible to everyone regardless of socioeconomic status! The quality of their performances is superb with various themes and diverse talented artists! The scale rate option and the monthly BIPOC Affinity night were how we were able to get started when we relocated to PDX in 2021! Please check them out and support them however you can: season ticket holder, donate each time you purchase ticket, or go to one of their play. My only rant is the parking situation in the area. Allow yourself time to park and walk to the venue. Street parking is free after 7pm, yet hard to find. Paid parking lots are expensive, limited, and feel unsafe at times if you're alone while female.
Nikky B — Google review

Why did my tax dollars go to a $1.5million bailout for this company because they lost $15,000 in NEA grants?? Now they still need $6.5million more or they're threatening to shut down AGAIN? 27 theatre companies in Portland lost their NEA grants. The total of all 27 grants was $590,000. For some of the smaller companies, these $15,000 - $30,000 decimated significant portions of their budgets. Some have had to cancel shows. And yet PCS threw them under the bus to "save" themselves (again, they're still threatening to close), while paying their Artistic Director $170,000/year. At what point do we call this mismanagement of not only just a budget, but a budget made of grants and donations??

It stands out with its vibrant white cables and towers, designed to prioritize visibility of the surrounding natural elements. This bridge is unique as it is exclusively open to pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation such as light rail and buses - private vehicles are not allowed.
Good place for a nice family walk. On a good clear day you get an amazing view of Mount Hood as well. Plenty of parking available at the OMSI parking lot (park near the gravel lot for an easy access to the bridge). Has a very nominal parking fee.

Awesome bridge!! Super infra for running, biking, since much less traffic noise than a highway bridge. And cool to see all the transit machines go by. However, they should increase the speed limit for the buses above 25 mph, to make the transit options faster.

Providence Park is a historic stadium in Portland, built in 1893 and home to various sports teams including the Portland Timbers, Thorns, and Vikings. Over the years, it has hosted diverse events such as cricket matches, ski jumping competitions, and even an iconic Elvis concert in 1957. Attending a Timbers game here offers an electrifying experience with passionate fans creating a vibrant atmosphere.
I visited Providence Park twice this week, and both experiences were equally excellent! The entire operation runs like clockwork, creating an environment that feels safe, friendly, and efficient. A heads-up for first-timers: Regular-sized bags aren’t allowed in the stadium. All belongings must be in either clear bags or small pouches no larger than 11cm x 20cm. I found this out the hard way and had to use the paid lockers, which cost $15 per visit. Since the app didn’t work with my UK number, a very helpful steward came over to assist. He eventually let us through with my slightly oversized bag, a kind and accommodating gesture that really stood out. The entire staff team was helpful and attentive throughout both visits. The atmosphere at both games was fantastic. Football here feels more family-oriented than in the UK, there were lots of children, women, and even teenie babies wearing ear defenders 💕 As for stadium food, it’s actually quite decent! We had nachos one night and chicken the other, both enjoyable. However, be prepared for steep prices: two cans of beer set us back $32 (with tip). That’s pretty wild! All in all, it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend a visit!

Not very organized getting people into the stadium nor getting to your section. The security was really really slow, it took 20 minutes for our line to move 2 feet. Overall it was another hour to get in the stadium. Once we got in it was another fiasco to get into our section as the ticket checker wasn’t not very sure who was going where. Overall a cool stadium but they need to work on organization.

Fabulous experience attending our first MLS match. Electrifying environment - the fans are truly passionate, creating a fabulous atmosphere. Decent food and drinks but $$. Definitely family oriented. We sat in the cheap seats - really, a long bench - but views were still very reasonable.

Our first professional soccer game was here. Timbers vs Quakes. The food, like in all stadiums, wasn't great, but the atmosphere compensated. Access was easy but parking almost turned into a headache since they don't have a designated parking lot. Good luck finding parking on the streets or using one of the $40 for three hours of use private parking lots. Besides that, we had a blast!

Visited Providence Park for A Thorns match. Great ticket prices for being close to the field. Easy to navigate the stadium and find our seats. There was variety in the concession area. Great walkability inside the stadium without congestion especially during halftime. Have to visit for a Timbers match.

I thought it was great for the concert. I think the staff will get better at handling the larger crowds over time. It was fun to walk around and try out the different pubs before the concert. I loved the open area atmosphere while watching the concert.

Incredible Wild Card Match at Providence Park! Our son’s soccer team from Salem got to walk out with players from both teams for the National Anthem — an unforgettable experience for the kids. The Timbers won 3-1 and are moving on to Round 1 of the playoffs! The atmosphere was electric, the crowd was loud, and Mora’s follow-up goal had the stadium roaring. A perfect family outing and such a special place for young players to see what’s possible! Go Timbers!

This particular event that we went to was a major concert, and it was extremely unorganized. It was completely understaffed. It took hours in line just to get in and they opened the gates late and it was hot, and most of us paid hundreds of dollars for our tickets to miss the first half of this show because of poorly trained employees and understaffing. I am an avid concert goer, and have been to big huge venues, like Lumen field in Seattle, I've been to the Gorge, White River amphitheater, and Spokane arena, even smaller venues in Portland did better job than this place. I will probably never see a concert here again because of the experience, I hope they can figure out how to make it a smoother. PS....Post Malone and Jelly Roll were off the hook!

McMenamins Bagdad Theater & Pub is a laid-back chain pub located in the back room of the historic Bagdad Theatre. The theater, housed in a Mediterranean-styled building, offers a unique atmosphere with its 7-story-high ceiling and art deco design. It is known for showing both second-run and new release movies, allowing visitors to enjoy pub fare, local brews, and cocktails while watching a film.
Stopped for a drink while in Hawthorne. The drinks were delicious, staff were super helpful with recommendations. We noticed the cinema, so we went in and watched a movie, a wonderful theatre!

The food is okay. The cheeseburger I had was dry and the bun was hard. It was edible, but I wish I ate elsewhere. I don't regret it, but I won't visit again. The tater tots were as good as the tots at Sonic. It's cramped, too. The building is an historic building that's pretty dark in the bar and I get that it's an old building and a bar. The waiter took our number when one of us got food and then gave away some of the other food we ordered because we no longer had a number. We mentioned this and they eventually brought us the other food we ordered, but it was left half-eaten. I don't believe that you'll miss out on anything or have major regrets if you don't go. If you do, great! I visited once and that's more than enough for me.

I came all the way from Mexico, and visiting this cinema was a completely different experience. 🎬✨ The theater is beautiful, comfortable, and has wonderful architecture. One thing I really loved is that there’s a bar right in front of your seat, which makes the experience even better. The seats are super comfortable, the price is affordable, and the screen quality is very good. I definitely recommend visiting this place, it’s totally worth it. 👌🏼

The best thing about all McMenanins is the atmosphere. Food is always meh 😕 Love the lively place and vibe! Best movie theater in Portland!

This place is a beautiful part of history. The building and decor is beautiful. The theater area is very nice and comfy. Yummy foods and drinks while watching a movie, what more could you ask for? Also McMenamins is generous and kind and host a free tour every few weeks that give a really great history of the theater. Highly recommend! It's at 10am on Saturday.

Ordered the bowl of beans, cilantro etc which was a little under $20. The resulting plate was a child's portion. I've had burritos with more stuffing in them. How cheap can you be? When I brought it up to the waitress (before eating it or touching it) she didn't seem to care and didn't offer any kind of solution. On top of that, we needed to bring our food to the balcony in the theatre. We showed up early enough to eat beforehand but it took so long that we had to migrate from the booth to the theatre, and mentioned we wanted to do so early but at her insistence that it would only be a few more minutes, multiple times, we waited and waited. So we went to bring our plates to the theatre after finally getting our food and our option was to stand outside and our food getting cold because of it. Small overpriced portions, and slow service that ultimately resulted in a cold, unsatisfactory meal. What a disappointing experience.

I love this spot! All locations are fantastic, but the McMenamins Bagdad Theatre & Pub on Hawthorne stands head and shoulders above the local competition. Fantastic food, great service, love this spot. Fish and chips are always a home run, the Cajun tots are excellent, and the brew selection is great. 10/10 recommend

Mill Ends Park, located in Portland, is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the smallest park in the world. This tiny patch of grass was established by Dick Fagan, a columnist who claimed to have conversations with a leprechaun colony living there. The park has been creatively decorated in the past with installations such as a butterfly swimming pool and a miniature ferris wheel.
My wife and I saw a video on the YouTube channel "Sidetrack Adventures" about this park so when we were visiting Portland recently, we just had to check it out. It's so cute! If you blink, you'll miss it, but it's right there in the median of the road. It made me laugh and it brought a smile to my face. Certainly worth a visit if you're in the area and it's such a unique attraction to share with friends. Thank you Portland for making this!
David F — Google review
The famous “world’s smallest park” was cute but… un-climatic. I don’t know what my expectations were… it’s suppose to be small. Maybe I wanted it to be smaller? I don’t know. But it’s a cute little point of pride for Portland and an easy stop on a jogging route. Be careful of the oncoming bike-lane traffic!
Tak O — Google review
I didn’t know about this park until I saw people taking pictures in the middle of the street, and I thought, what’s going on here? It might seem a little silly, but if you’re in Portland, it’s worth stopping by for a few photos. Afterward, take a walk in the larger park just across the street, it’s really nice. I do want to mention that there are quite a few homeless people around the downtown area, which is a bit sad.

Going to the world’s smallest park was such a fun experience! It was very accessible to go here by walk from a nearby restaurant. It is super small and somehow that makes it very cute! There are restrooms nearby on the other side of the road. This park is also located kind of in the middle of a large road, so you have to cross a road to get here. This place is of course open at all times.

Bird Alliance of Oregon, formerly known as Portland Audubon, is a 150-acre nature preserve offering 4 miles of hiking trails, bird-watching opportunities, an interpretive center, and a store. With over a century of experience in advocating for Oregon's wildlife and wild places, the organization has built a passionate community dedicated to inspiring and connecting people to nature through various science-based programs.
Truly beautiful place to hike with well maintained trails and a good chance of seeing wildlife. The trails are all fairly easy and there are periodic places to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Great for dogs but would not recommend bringing a stroller. At the trailhead are their ambassador birds, who are being cared for by the wildlife rescue center. The gift shop is surprisingly big with mix of souvenirs, books, bird-watching materials and bird feeding supplies. Parking is free but limited.

If you are thinking to bring an injured bird here, think again. We brought a baby mourning dove to this center around July 2nd or 3rd. The bird was eating and seemed to be doing fine in our care, but we were told it was best to bring it in to professionals. We provided all our contact information and were assured we’d be updated, whether the bird was released or needed ongoing care. Instead, we heard nothing for two months despite our attempts to reach out. When we finally got a response, we were told the dove had been humanely euthanized back in early July without any notice to us. This was heartbreaking, especially as our kids kept asking about the bird. We were never informed of this decision, and it felt like a complete breakdown of the promised communication. I regret bringing the bird here. The lack of transparency and compassion in updating us made this experience much harder. I hope they improve their communication with other families in the future.

Always love to visit this place. The little gift shop has some fun items, and the small display of historical items is nice. The real gem is the walking path, with two large enclosures for their resident rescue birds at the beginning of the path. The path is steep, so be aware if you have mobility considerations. The gift store offers binoculars lending (just leave some collateral with the cashier). A lovely walk!

I found an orphaned baby squirrel and called Bird Alliance for help since I know they do rehabilitation. The response I received was not only unhelpful, but incorrect and harmful. I spoke with two associates who told me I was more than welcome to bring the baby down to them—for euthanasia. Because he was an eastern grey squirrel, they would only kill him. I declined, politely, and told them I’d be taking care of him myself until I could find a rehabilitation center that accepted him. Not only did the woman I spoke to try to tell me I couldn’t even take care of it on my own temporarily, but she told me, “No one will take a grey squirrel since it’s illegal. Sometimes a wild animals destiny is to be eaten by other animals.” Hello??? We’re talking about a baby who couldn’t even open his eyes. Obviously, and THANKFULLY, I did not take this “advice” for gospel, and continued my search for refuge. I did end up finding a licensed rehabilitator who said of course they would take this baby. I bottle fed and cared for him for two days and just dropped him off with the people who will do a much better job than me at caring for him until he can be released back where he belongs. TLDR; if you find a baby squirrel, DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE. DO NOT LET THEM KILL INNOCENT BABIES JUST TRYING TO LIVE. Look for info on Squirrel Refuge’s website (they have links to rehab places all over the PNW and info on how to care for baby in the meantime) don’t give up on them 🩷

My wife works for camping world in woodland wa. They had a class A motorhome come in for repair work and while the technician was doing the repairs he found a birds nest with two baby birds in it which later turned out to be juncos. I left a message with bird alliance and someone got back to me within an hour of my calling. They provided instruction on how to safely transport the birds to their location. Upon arriving they had someone right at the front door where they had me fill out some simple paperwork to intake the birds. The staff was very friendly and asked me if I would like to know what they are which they informed me of very quickly and took down my personal information to provide me eith updates as they raise them and told me someone would be in contact when they are of age to be released so I could come watch as well. These people truly love what they do and my interaction with them was very positive and pleasant.

Beautiful trails - a lot to see and not too long. Very accessible, yet with varied terrain. A Creek, native understory plants, and second-growth forest make this place special. Gift shop is also interesting with an eclectic assortment of goods for sale and some stuffed wild animals to view.

What a great spot! We visited on a holiday weekend. There was plenty of parking, though I imagine it fills up later in the day. The great horned owl and the kestrel were at the forefront. Another owl chatted with them in the trees. The hiking trail was well maintained. Great hike for kids and adults!

Located in the heart of downtown Portland, Director Park is a vibrant urban plaza that was transformed from a former parking lot into a lively public square in 2009. The park features a large circular fountain with gentle jets and bubbles, creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors to relax and enjoy outdoor seating areas. It also offers amenities such as a cafe and hosts occasional events during the summer months.
We dropped by on a Sunday morning and there was some sort of cat exhibit on display. My 7-year old daughter enjoyed looking at each cat. There were a lot of people looking with us so it was lively and felt safe. There was also a security guard stationed here, presumably to keep an eye on the exhibits so no one vandalized them.

Director Park Is a nice-looking place to have a nice rest. And maybe get something to eat from the food carts that are usually there. There is a water feature that you can bring your kids to play in and have fun. Usually open in the warm summertime and Spring. There is also a giant chessboard and chess pieces that are cool looking, they also provide free Wi-Fi all year around which is a plus. There is also a covered area that lights up at night. There are a couple of homeless people that do walk around there, but it's fine.

I only visited for the water part of Mt. Scott Community Center, I was very impressed. Not only was there a wide assortment of water activities, a pool, small "non-lazy river", "tornado"(which is a small circular pool that spins in a tornado fashion), a water slide, hot tub, lap pool and rope, but the entire place felt clean and well maintained and watched. There were multiple life guards watching every corner of the place, very capable of helping kids, or adults, in need. I very much enjoyed my short visit here and would definitely recommend!

McMenamins Crystal Ballroom is a historic concert venue and club located in Downtown Portland's West End. It occupies the upper floor of an entertainment complex that includes Lola's Room and Ringler's Pub. The venue, established in 1914, has hosted renowned artists like the Grateful Dead and B.B. King. With its spring-loaded dance floor, it offers an energetic atmosphere for live music and dancing events featuring popular regional and national bands.
Crystal Ballroom is the most iconic McMenamins venue in Portland. Famous for the wooden floor that 'moves' with the crowd, chandeliers and marquee walls adorned with the illustrations McMenamins is so loved for - this venue never fails to impress. Concerts here are always so damn fun. Recent improvements with the sound system have made the acoustics even better. With 2 bars in the main area and one on the balcony, their staff is well equipped to serve libations without having much of a wait. The balcony has a few rows of seats, I believe you have to purchase those specifically as they're not included with GA. The balcony view is partially obstructed from some areas by the massive chandelier, so choose your spot wisely. I always enjoy this venue and appreciate the restaurants and bars McMenamins places so well in their locations.

We were extremely impressed with the Crystal Ballroom's ada accommodations! We saw They Might be Giants this time (they were phenomenal!!!!!). Staff was really on it! We thought we'd have to wait until the venue cleared out to exit, but they totally cleared a path to the elevator. We were also offered cold water during the show, so we didn't have to leave the area to get a drink.

I've seen many concerts here and it's always a friendly crowd. It's a little awkward how the over 21 and under 21 is split. I was there seeing my favorite old band Social Distortion. And when people jump the floor kind of sways and has a bounce to it because it was originally built with some kind of suspension system. Somehow the staff kept the beer flowing and even though it was crowded everyone was polite. Don't miss an opportunity to attend a concert here. Such great old bones that are reminiscent of what would seem like a more civilized time.

GARBAGE on their final North American tour. Ballroom is on the top floor, heat rises, it gets HOT!! there's really no bad spot for viewing. Balcony is usually reserved seating and floor is GA. So depending on how aggressive you wanna be determines how close you can get to stage. Thank the goddess for Lola's room downstairs (paired review on their page) as I'm recovering from a foot fracture, so climbing all the way to the top and just standing was excruciating. I don't know how high the ac was set but personally I think it should be refrigerated instead of just ac. The giant fans were nice but they only stood person-tall so that breeze was lost 3 people deep. Mounting those above head hight would help flush the heat. That really is my only complaint, the heat...
Nate F — Google review
Absolutely love this venue, but do not get the balcony sitting with obstructed view. The PA was not the best during the recent Social Distortion show. Still strongly recommended this place.

This is a fun music venue. Several bars are in the building. For general admission, as long as you were tall I think it works very well. There is a little bit of slope to the floor in the back so if you were shorter, I would recommend trying to get to the front. Sound quality has been reliable and good. The last two shows we saw there were excellent. building itself is a little strange as it’s an old school I believe. It’s definitely a mixed use building with some businesses Incorporated into it as well. The bars that serve drinks outside of the music venue area allow you to bring the drinks into the music venue so it works well from that standpoint. all in all if you have a band that you like that is coming to revolution Hall, I think it is a good experience. I haven’t tried the food there, but I really don’t think that is why people end up going there.

Sipped our beers while waiting for the fries at the pick-up window. We went to the rooftop bar with our drinks and fries. Great city view and seating options. Perfect evening for outside. Ordered another IPA round at the rooftop bar...frosty metal cups. Nice! The fries: Thin like shoe string—dry, no potato-inside because too thin—not great. The venue and concert: awesome. Looking foward to going back for 80s video dance club in July.

The only drawback is how warm it can get and how there always seems to be one couple talking in the middle of a song loudly yet nowhere near the back or in the hall outside. Cheers! Came in on a Tuesday afternoon, not crazy busy. But this is perfect for a kiddo date. They have a 3 and under area which is a great option considering how large the actual play place is. 10/10 would recommend from my experience. Also I love that they allow adults in the play areas considering my oldest is only 4 years old, it gave me a chance to check it out with him and not send him in blindly. Great place if you want to enjoy some kid fun with your kiddo/‘s.

Our family went here for the. first time yesterday. Veggie Pizza was better than expected but didn't have enough toppings. Garlic rolls were delicious and kids had a great time too. Only big improvement...someone needs to pressure wash and clean the back exit where we parked. It was disgusting to step onto whatever was outside of that door on our way out.

My favorite play gym in the Portland or the West suburbs. Been here a few times. Every time has been great. We’ll drive in from Beaverton to go to there. The kids have had a blast every time. But what really stands out is the area for the parents. Comfortable seating, great beer, wine, and food selection. Staff is great. Bathrooms are clean. Birthday parties were successful. I actually look forward to going there.

During our visit from Washington, we chose this place to celebrate my son’s birthday. The lady at the front, who I believe is the manager was so kind and helpful, ensuring everything went smoothly. My son had a great time, and the food was good and reasonably priced. Thank you for making our day so wonderful!

I can’t say enough good things about this place! We had our daughters second birthday here and it was a amazing experience! The room had plenty of space and extra seating right outside of the room. The food was ready on arrival as requested and it was very lovely and yummy! We were checked on multiple times throughout our event and the staff was helpful and friendly. The birthday girl got a free stuffed animal that they stuffed together. They let us put up a table backdrop and balloon arch and then broke down anything we didn’t want to take including the balloon arch it was extremely helpful. The play area is so much fun for both infants/toddlers and older children. I love that they have an adult beverage selection that was a nice option for all the parents they also had yummy non alcoholic beverages (loved the Italian soda!) we had great time we didn’t feel rushed at all (but we were one of the last party’s of the night so that probably helped) thank you guys it’s was such a amazing and memorable experience!

We had our kid's birthday party here, and it was fantastic! Tye and the rest of the staff were really sweet and took great care of us. The kids all had a blast. We'll definitely be back ☺️

FUN! This place was a great spot for an afternoon with the little ones. The play structure is very large (3 levels) and there is a separate space with air cannons to launch balls back and forth between teams. I really appreciated the little kids area reserved for those 3 and under to play and stay safe. Everything looked in good condition (though a little warm). There was a lot of dust visible in the areas behind nets, but that wasn’t accessible. Staff was very friendly. Looked like there were two birthday parties going on in side rooms. We will be back.

If you're looking for a vibrant culinary experience in Portland, the Portland Night Market is an absolute must-visit. This lively open-air market beautifully blends local cuisine with craft goods, creating a unique atmosphere that celebrates the city's diverse food scene. Unlike its daytime counterpart, the Portland Saturday Market, this nighttime event leans more towards gourmet offerings and specialty snacks rather than crafts.
First time going to the Portland night market and it won’t be my last! Super awesome market with delicious food, awesome booths, and fun stuff to do. I would recommend the fast pass. It’s cheap and makes getting in a breeze. I only snagged a photo of hot sauce but we snagged all sorts of fun stuff from cider to hot sauce to chocolates to cards and vegetables. At least 3 spots to grab beers (very important) and tons of food options. Photo booths / selfie stations and they just opened Karaoke. If you haven’t been - go! Get a fast pass and just know parking the area is rough. This is popular for a reason.
Karl W — Google review
So crowded and is basically a club (if you’re there late) people dressed skimpy, loud loud music, alcohol… I wouldn’t recommend but if you’re a young Portlander you’d probably have a great time! Just not what I expected :-) also the line to the bathrooms were INSANE and to get anywhere you have to push past people.
Ava W — Google review
Wanted to try this place out! Huge line outside but I was prepared for that. A bit disappointed once inside. Smaller than expected and couldn't even check out booths with the amount of people inside. Considered getting food outdoors but lines wrapped all the way around the courtyard. We left without spending a penny though!
Laura O — Google review
This was a great place to visit as an out-of-towner. Plenty of food trucks to test and try. Lots of cute photo spots. It truly is a place to get to know Portland. Parking: there are spots around the area open for 2 hours. We had to do a couple loops until one opened up, so I recommend ride share. Food Options: they had options that met everyone's dietary needs (vegan, dairy free. etc)
Sidney A — Google review
Love how many food options they had, drinks madly overpriced, they have a few dope vendors but most have crazy prices so it doesn’t give that actual market vibe
Kriscia — Google review
A must go experience. Great venue that blends the night life vibe with a market of local vendors selling amazing hand made and small business goods. The food though is next level. The music is inside and out, with a small dance area in front of the DJ. If you love music as much as I do you will find yourself dancing your way between the merchants, through the indoor bars and out to get some delicious eats and maybe hold a baby goat. It was an experience. I'll be back for every night market in the future. The movie theater in the bar behind the wine venue on the second floor was something I didn't spend enough time really to enjoy. It's a cool date night idea though, for those that don't necessarily enjoy the loud music and crowds, head up to the movie room and enjoy a cute spot. The second floor above the west side has a few cool hang out spots, some selfy/group photo moments and of course a super cute bar tucked in the corner. It's rare to find a market with so many intimate settings as well as great community moments.
Bri — Google review
Really great vendors and food options. With that said, it could have been organized a lot better. I wish they would limit the amount of people let into the building a little more. We were packed like sardines. Worst yet, there was little ventilation. They set up a huge evaporative cooler, which made the area 20 feet around it cooler, but the rest of the building felt like a humid locker room due to the moisture pumped into the air. It was easily 85 degrees plus, nearing 100% humidity inside. I couldn't stop thinking of COVID. I would also recommend more outdoor seating. There were very few tables given the amount of people. I ordered food that really couldn't be eaten standing up, so I had to take it home. We paid the $10 fast pass entrance, and definitely recommend that. The other line wrapped around two city blocks. Like I said, the vendors were fantastic and it's worth going to once... Just wish it was organized a little better.

The Rental Sales Gallery, located within the Portland Art Museum, was established in 1959 to provide access to exceptional works by Northwest artists. With nearly 200 artists from Oregon and Washington State, the gallery offers a diverse selection of contemporary art including abstracts, photography, landscapes, and more. Visitors can freely explore the extensive collection and have the option to rent or purchase pieces. The sales directly support the museum's mission.
Free to go in and look around. What a fun place to shop for art for your home. We spent about half an hour going through the many pieces of art from all types of artists. We couldn't see them all. We found some we liked but didn't take anything home. Maybe next time. A fun place to visit.

Although the festival of lights doesn't last as long as we would like to see it, this creation is amazing even observed from different angles it shines as a distinct form of a whale with a nice pattern of color changes on the very spot of the fountain and it can be seen all around the area and even across the river

Nestled in the heart of Portland, the Multnomah County Central Library is a stunning Georgian structure that has been captivating visitors since its establishment in 1913. This architectural gem, designed by A.E. Doyle, stands as a testament to the city's rich literary heritage and offers an inviting atmosphere for book lovers and knowledge seekers alike. Inside, you'll find a spacious and well-maintained hall filled with an extensive collection of books available for free borrowing, alongside computers for public use.
Multnomah County Central Library was a great trip! It was my first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised by how big it was. It's a three-story library. Everything is very nicely organized; it's easy to find different categories and genres of books. They have plenty of resources, such as computers and private rooms for writing, etc. Unhoused people do use this place quite often. If you live locally, you can check out up to 100 books; I believe you just need to log in to one of their computers, and they can print you a library card. You just need an ID and a local address.
Tony H — Google review
Cool library, not in the greatest of areas but what can you do. Staff were super nice and gave me recommendations on stuff to eat while I was in town. I was able to spend a few hours here doing my homework before they closed at 6 and it was warm, clean and real quiet.
Gustavo J — Google review
The renovated library is wonderful! The big rooms for fiction and periodicals are filled with light and there are ample places to sit down and read or work at a desk. There are also study rooms, conference rooms, a writing room and a rare book collection you can sign up to use.
Chris M — Google review
The library was able to get me the Omni magazine from 1980 and also to read a 2004 microfilm congressional hearing on Lunar Science! However, I generally cannot use it for reading or study because de facto it's a homeless shelter.
Wesley S — Google review
Great place to study if you’re in school also more importantly that there is a lot of homeless hanging around this library. A lot of unusual activity that goes on. It’s kind of what it is in this particular library, but the staff are very friendly. They can help you find whatever books and literature that you’re trying to look for
Joe M — Google review
What a beautiful library. The donations to make this possible are greatly appreciated. It is clean and helps many homeless with access to materials and charging. The only loss of one star comes from the natural result of when many obtain power. Be expected to sit in a 90 degree angle or be told to leave. Be expected to fill out forms to enter empty rooms in advance or be told to leave. Be expected to sit in specific areas or be told to leave. The few who value their own authority over the spirit of education taint the image of this great building. I hope to return and not be treated with such restrictive measures that hinder what this structure was built for: to educate the masses. As many of the posters in this city say in protest, no kings or queens.
Jerick A — Google review
Computer access is available in the building. When it is wet and cold there is a waiting list for computers. The staff is so traumatized that they will no longer discipline anyone for any reason. A full-service library, in a beautifully restored historic building. Helpful and friendly staff. All gender restrooms on the main floor. New plaza seems to be incongruous and there was a needless expenditure of money on supposedly comfortable chairs that appear out of place. But the county decided that it should be a manger for the houseless.
Rob S — Google review
To all those brave enough to restore it to a library once again and take charge. This library feels more like a shelter than a place for research. Every computer was occupied — not by people using the computers for their intended purpose — but by people sleeping, scratching wounds, or simply hanging around. When I brought this up to the staff, I was told, “There’s nothing we can do.” That’s disappointing. Libraries are meant to be quiet places for learning and research, not improvised homeless shelters. I appreciate compassion, but not at the expense of patrons who need to use the computers and actually do library work. The library needs better policies and management so that everyone — especially those of us who come for its intended purpose — can actually use the space.

Laurelhurst Park, a 32-acre park in Northeast Portland, is a picturesque and popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Originally part of a private farm, the city of Portland transformed it into a beautiful park in 1912. Inspired by Frederick Law Olmsted's landscape architecture, the park features old trees, sprawling lawns, walking trails, and picnic areas surrounding a spring-fed pond. The neighborhood around the park showcases fine residential architecture.
I did not realize just how huge this gorgeous park is!! Lots of grass rolling hills covered with huge trees! I think i saw people playing on a "pickleball" court by the tennis court. There are working n open restrooms in the green buildings. Bicyclists, rollerblading, a person in an electric wheelchair, people walking n skipping. Benches n picnic tables throughout this beautifully maintained park. 🌹🌹🌹🌹

Great park with a beautiful pond in the center and large lawn square for dog walking. The trees are tall so you will mostly walk in the shade but you can also lay down on the grass to get tanged. It took a about 30 mins to walk account the park and bus stop #75 is right outside the entrance.

There's a pond, a tall brick staircase, beautiful trees, open grassy spaces, paved paths, old-school street lamps, basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, playground, dog area, bathrooms & more. Had a blast with the family rollerblading in the park. Didn't see any homeless or drug addicts. The whole park was very clean. We had a blast. Would recommend for any park activities. See people doing everything you'd imagine people doing at park. I would not recommend rollerblading though. We fell multiple times and our kids flew off into the bushes a few times hahaha everyone's messed up!.

We don't get out to Laurelhurst as often as we should; it's one of the best inner city parks that we have, for myriad reasons: spacious, shaded, plenty of picnic space and open greenway, trails, special events all year round (our favorites being the Water Lantern Festival and Movies in the Park), an off-leash dog area, duck pond, sports courts and fields, and likely a lot more things of which I am aware. It's also seems, to me at least, to be one of only a handful of Portland's "living room" spaces: large enough, and conveniently central enough, to draw in folks from all over the metro area, for any of the reasons mentioned above. It's quite, serene, welcoming...nostalgic, even. A great place to commingle, or isolate, whatever your preference. Portland is blessed with a lot of urban green spaces, but few outside of Forest Park (the G.O.A.T.) can rival the majesty, modesty, and utility of Laurelhurst. It's the sort of place that can make you fall in love with your city all over again. Keller Fountain Park, named after a former head of the Portland development Commission, features an impressive angular concrete fountain inspired by the waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Designed by Angela Danadjieva, it sees over 13,000 gallons of water cascading through it every minute. The park spans 1 acre and offers pools, fountains, and small waterfalls for children to enjoy during the summer.
Keller Fountain Park is beautiful. It's an astounding setting for photos, whether selfies or wedding or other special occasion photography. Set your camera on one of the main waterfalls and let it record a full minute of video, then edit the ends to have a stunning active screen saver. The water isn't on year-round, of course, so grab those selfies while you can. Above the waterfalls are a number of beautifully laid out pools of various depths. Keller Fountain Park is a great place to bring a friend or a good book , and a remarkable legacy for Ira Keller.

I smelled a lot of urine but I really like this structure, great for pictures, walking by, or taking a pause. The noise of the fountain drowns everything else out, perfect for writing or sketching. I really dig it. For the maintainers: someone should clean the bronze signage - it's hard to read atm - and maybe power wash her nooks and crannies.

Fantastic urban park. Designed by Angela Danadjieva, the Forecourt Fountain was completed in 1970. 13,000 gallons of water per minute cascade through its terraces and platforms, suggesting the Northwest's abundant waterfalls. In 1978, the fountain was renamed after Ira C. Keller (1899-1978), civic leader and first chairman of the Portland Development Commission (1958-72). Keller pushed through the renewal plan for the South Auditorium area of downtown which included the construction of the Forecourt Fountain.

One of Portland's most beautiful open spaces, this majestic work of architecture complements the downtown South Auditorium esplanade. The place is majestic, and you can sit and take a break, as the atmosphere is very peaceful amidst the chaos of traffic.

This is my favorite place downtown. I love coming here. The falls are kind of breath taking. I used to come here as a little kid, it's still am ok place to bring kids as long as you watch them. The water isn't deep but I wouldn't want to fall in cuz that water is filthy. It looks clear but I've pulled yeah out of it and yeah, it's gross. Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, situated along the Columbia River, is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts. This former fur trading post and military installation offers self-guided tours and immersive 19th-century blacksmith demonstrations. The site's reconstructed fort and historical reenactments provide profound insights into the Hudson's Bay Company's influence on the Pacific Northwest. Visitors can explore meticulously reconstructed buildings like the Chief Factor's House and Counting House, gaining a vivid glimpse into colonial times.
Lovely national historical site right across the river from Portland and off the Columbia River. There’s a self guided tour where you can walk in the old buildings of the fort. Next door is an air museum and there is a house where Ulysses Grant lived.

We have been to many forts like this mainly in the Midwest, and Fort Vancouver was very nice and showcased some of the history of the area. The gardens out front were lovely as well. It does have an admission cost but you can use your America the Beautiful pass to get in for free. They also have a Junior ranger program separate from the air museum.

Although the fort itself is recreated, Fort Vancouver is a site that's rooted in history and well worth visiting! The main visitors centre has a video introduction and a small display on the history of the site as well as NPS stamps, maps and a gift shop (there's a great selection of second-hand books here!). The fort is also on the site of a historic airfield which has a free museum too so I'd really recommend popping in there too! You can walk or drive down to the fort- it is a chargeable site and you can buy a pass online or in person. Inside, there's a variety of buildings from the main house to the kitchen and hospital. Most of the buildings had a re-enactor inside explaining about everything from the fur trade to life as a Hudson Bay company clerk- they were all very friendly and answered any questions. There have been a lot of archaeological digs on the site so what's there is based on what has been found. Most of the buildings are open and it was fascinating to find great little facts in each one!

first time going here and it was not a disappointment. I much prefer to be around dead people than living so this was a lovely experience for my that I would highly recommend for others who also hate living people. the grass was green and lush and there was not too much mud with he rain we just had. I saw a beautiful goth couple meandering around the cemetery I'd like to see more of that for sure. all in all y'all this cemetery is the shitznitzs so y'all should come here and talk to the dead people you know not everyone in this cemetery died of natural causes......

I came here on a bike ride and the day couldn’t have been better, with spectacular trees in their gorgeous fall colors, amazing old gravestones and new ones too, and a Metro-sponsored report by ghosts on the sad and often gruesome manner of their death. “Lesson kids: don’t play with dynamite.” So perfectly Portland! Updated from six years ago with a more recent photo :)

Totally awesome historical cemetery tour given by the friends of Line Fir Cemetery! Look it up and give them a few hours to guide you through the history and stories of the people who made Portland what it is, and how they wound up below your feet.

One of our favorites. Kids love to come here for a picnic or just to see some of the older graves. Shady and cooler on hot days.

Was my first time here and it did not disappoint. Very peaceful, quiet, historical, spooky kind of place.

Lone Fir Cemetery is on National Geographic’s list of top 10 cemeteries to visit and a spectacular place for spirit-spotting.

Laurelhurst Theater is a historic 1923 art deco movie house in Portland, known for its wide selection of contemporary, indie, and art house cinema. It's open to 21+ only after 5:30 PM and offers discount films along with pub fare. The theater is located on Northeast 28th Avenue, which also features a newly-opened vintage store called Goodbye Horses and the perfume shop Olo.
One of the best neighborhood theaters in NE Portland. Not as iconic at the Hollywood Theater, but has arguably the coolest Art Deco neon signs of any theater in the Northwest. Always has an eclectic mix of first-run movies showing, and a really great selection of brews and food.
John D — Google review
An Institution! Show up early to get your snacks and drinks before the crowd lines up! Love the vibes, and there are tons of restaurants nearby if you want to eat before or after the movie. Also $10 for a movie? Amazing!
James C — Google review
Old Timey movie theater that shows most of the new hits! This is where I come to get affordable, popcorn, great service, old-school vibe, delicious pizza, taps, and I can reserve my seats unlike the Hollywood theater, which I love! They have many theaters to show different movies in! Great neighborhood vibe! Love bringing my nephew here who is under 21 before 8 PM when they allow minors to be accompanied by adults. Probably the best Portland based Theatre in town. They rotate their movies regularly! I love it here! I am a customer for life! Over 100 years old!
Julia R — Google review
This historic theater had an update over the past few years to add more comfortable seats. Though they don’t recline, they are roomy. The ticket prices are affordable and so are the concessions. Enjoy a pizza, popcorn, candy, soda, beer or wine (and more) while enjoying a show!
Grace H — Google review
They got new seats which are amazing. Love these old theaters the city government should subsidize them, they are about the primary source of character left in the town. This one has long narrow theaters with smaller screens which is a unique experience but quality and the sound is good. Good beer and local pizza available. The popcorn is as good as it gets.
Ryan M — Google review
I'm sure the theatre is great, however, I doubt we will return. As it relates to customer service and business practice, we had a very unfortunate and frustrating experience. We walked-up to the box office to buy tickets for a 3:30PM show. I'm 37 and my wife is 30 -- we're new to PDX and checking-out different theaters. They asked for our IDs; I showed mine, however, my wife didn't have hers with her...she also did not plan on drinking. We were turned-away in a pretty snarky manner -- no attempt to explain, be helpful, or resolve the issue in any way. There's also a sign stating "21+ after 8 PM", so why the need for a 30 year-old to show her ID at a 3:30PM movie? What is gained by this? This is a stupid, stupid rule and we missed our movie. We walked-away really disappointed. We've been to independent theaters all-over the place and have never been turned-away, or treated like that at a box office. And, interestingly, I now see other commentary on here with the same complaint. Pretty bummed because I was excited to check this place out. I think we will go elsewhere in the future.
Phillip W — Google review
Huge seating, which means they can only fit so many people. Which is great. When you buy a ticket, you also assign a seat. This experience is way better than the ugly AMC experience where I'm rubbing against people in a sweaty 250 theater. Wednesday is closed captions, which is really helpful. The food menu has popcorn, booze and pizza. Enough to munch on during the film. Great date night spot!

Saw Friendship here and had the best time. The theater was full and it was a great movie to watch with a crowd.

If you're on the hunt for a unique experience in Portland, look no further than the National Hat Museum. Nestled within the quirky Ladd-Reingold House, this museum offers an intriguing glimpse into the world of hats, showcasing an impressive collection that spans vintage to international styles. Guided tours led by costumed experts provide not only insights into millinery but also fascinating stories about the house's history and its former owner, Rebecca Reingold.
My wife enjoyed this tour so much that she was in tears when she left. The museum is also located in a beautiful neighborhood which is worth the who is it alone.
Kevin M — Google review
Totally cool and very well done. Great tour. Dress so you can select a hat for a candid photo.
Claudia S — Google review
My partner and I went on this tour and it was by far the best part of our trip. If you don't leave this tour both excited to go get a hat for yourself and also make Lu Ann (the director) your new best friend, so you can just hear her talk about history and her incredible life stories, then something is deeply flawed in you. This museum has an amazing collection, and Lu Ann does an excellent job of tying in the evolution of hats, with modern culture and historic events. I guarentee you will not regret this tour!
Wendy — Google review
My wife's birthday has me visiting. She loved the museum and I think the did a old job of displaying hats and providing a tour. We visited a hat store afterward to by hats to celebrate. Edwardian and Victoria period womens hats are on display when you walk in. Nice old house in a great part of Portland

The host was AMAZING. This place was so much fun. Very educational at that. Had lots of laughs. It’s definitely a must see. 5 stars across the board. Would visit again.
Dena M — Google review
This is a one-of-a-kind historic treasure. Our guide Lu Ann was knowledgeable and passionate about hat history. The museum itself is in a historic home. Do not miss this museum!

Wonderful place to visit. Small group tours are perfect for being able to see all the hats and hear their interesting stories! Reopens in May. It's well worth it!

Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is a theater and performing arts venue in Portland, Oregon. It features prolific performances by various local orchestras, and is also home to the Oregon Symphony. The hall has been landmarked for its architectural value and features an Italian rococo interior.
You guys I am literally in LOVE with the Arlene Schnitzer Hall!!! Ive been going constantly for the past year or so for their classical concerts and it’s the best thing ever. My favorite part is for sure the fact that I have an excuse to get all nice and dressed up. Also for students you only have to pay $10 for a concert ticket?? Super insane and convenient. It’s such a beautiful venue and is always so worth the visit. If you’re in town and are looking for something fun to do, like a little side quest, I definitely recommend going to a classical music show. Even if you’re not a huge classical person, it’s still worth the try, could be your huge revelation!!! Will continue to come here as long as I live in the area, it’s so crazy to me that more people don’t go here!
Ava — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! Only thing they need to improve is to have a protein snack or something. And when it’s time to update the seats I hope they get wider ones. Even when I was 14 my hips wouldn’t fit in those things and now there’s more cushion for the pushin’ 😆. Absolutely beautiful.
Tabitha B — Google review
As far as the Oregon symphony goes it was a 10/10. Absolutely amazing. I went to a film series concert to pirates of the Caribbean and it was phenomenal. I only docked one star for the venue. Beautiful venue but seating was tight. I’m not overweight or anything and as someone who used to be overweight I can’t imagine trying to fit in the seat. The seats are old and too narrow. Other than that it was a great time.
Angelica H — Google review
Went to my first Oregon Symphony show here, and it was incredible. Such a welcoming and wonderful venue. The staff is very kind, and the architecture is so beautiful! I recommend going to a show here to anyone, of any age!
Gordon R — Google review
The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is absolutely stunning…a true Portland gem. The architecture and interior are breathtaking, and every seat feels like it has a great view. The acoustics are phenomenal. Parking and nearby dining options are convenient, with plenty of great spots within walking distance. It’s one of those rare venues that feels both grand and welcoming; perfect for a memorable night out.
Laura J — Google review
Saw Sarah Millican there, amazing show. The venue is so beautiful I spent the intermission taking pictures of it. Perfect seating, makes you feel like your closer than you are. Would definitely go there again.
Jon L — Google review
I’ve been here multiple times for various performances. Classy hall and great place to see a live show. Pretty much every seat is great and the acoustics superb.
Rich M — Google review
Beautiful theater, friendly & helpful staff (especially will call), comfortable seats, and great views. But be warned, if you stand up during a concert to enjoy the music, you risk being yelled at by other concert-goers (looking at you, seat N4) for blocking their views — annoying!

Movie theater
The Hollywood Theatre is a historic movie house in Portland that has been renovated from the Prohibition era. It features indie films on a 50-ft. screen and live performances, making it one of the city's beloved landmarks. The theater offers a mix of new and classic films as well as special events like Kung Fu Theater, B-Movie Bingo, Mondo Trasho, 35mm and 70mm screenings.
One of the best theaters I’ve been to!! The staff were great. The prices for the concessions are way cheaper than a mainstream modern cinema. I watched Donnie Darko in 35mm, and it was really hard to watch something else after that experience. I loved everything about this place! Highly recommended to both locals and visitors!
Hadi — Google review
This is one of two locations in Oregon regularly projecting 70 mm film on a huge, curved screen. This weekend we enjoyed “interstellar“ on 70 mm. It is one of the films the Theater maintains in its permanent archive and periodically schedules. The only negative statement is that you need to arrive early enough to get good seats. I was surprised that the theater was essentially sold out For this Sunday afternoon matinee. Although tickets were available when it opened for the showing, those of us with advanced tickets were able to skip the line and enter and select our seats immediately. The projection quality is superb and the sound system is impressive, yielding, a thoroughly pleasurable viewer experience. The popcorn was wonderful with real, pure butter on request. The beers were pretty good as well. A negative is that street parking around the theater is limited for these filmings, and everything has either a two hour or 10 minute limit. I left the car for about three hours for this two hour and 49 minute film, but was not ticketed. I don’t know if they are locally forgiving in the Hollywood neighborhood or if I was just lucky. Taking public transportation might not be a bad idea, depending on your personal situation.
PappaJohn F — Google review
One of the greatest independent movie theaters in Portland. This place is a historical landmark that is worth visiting and preserving for generations. Chill vibes, great movies (35mm & 70mm) and always at a fair price. They serve decent beer and excellent pizza as well. Be a cool human being and donate some extra money to help keep this theater running (if you can).
Ms. R — Google review
Feels good to support this historic-but-updated theater that always has an interesting film schedule. Went to see One Battle After Another in 70mm, I think this was the only place for miles that had that format. Seats are comfy, sight lines are good and sound is alright, but the front lobby is definitely low-fi. The upstairs bar is where it’s at! Not a mind-blowing theater experience but it’s great to have this venue in Portland nonetheless.
Andrew C — Google review
Let’s be clear: I love this theater. Absolutely love it. It’s gorgeous, historic, with the magic of 16mm and 35mm projection still alive and well. Walking inside feels like stepping into the kind of cinematic dream Portland should be proud of and I think we are, its usually full. But the curation? That’s where it loses me. It’s like the Hollywood got trapped in a frat house time loop. Week after week: Kill Bill. Then more Kill Bill. Then Jaws. Then some other greatest-hits-of-dude-movies rerun. It’s less “cinema treasure” and more “bro canon on repeat.” Don’t get me wrong, there’s a time and place for Tarantino bloodbaths and Spielberg sharks. But when that’s the whole diet, it gets predictable and exhausting. A theater this good could be giving us curveballs, oddities, the kind of films that surprise you and remind you why theaters like this matter, why cinema matters. Still love you, Hollywood. Just wish you’d mix it up a little. Please, mmix it up a little.
Chiron M — Google review
In a city of exceptional historic neighborhood movie theaters, Hollywood is far and away the best. As much as I love some of the other wonderful Portland theaters, nobody does it better than the Hollywood in terms of programming and overall experience. This is one of the best movie theaters in the United States.
Marc B — Google review
I like the Hollywood and I love queer horror nights. I'm writing a 3 star review because the bathrooms here are FILTHY. I will spare readers the photos of the toilet scale but I will share photos of the mold growing in the bathroom mirrors. I know the plumbing is old yada yada but clean your bathrooms PLEASE.
Alex H — Google review
When in Portland, you must hunt out this incredible independent cinema. Didn't have time to see a film but peruse the foyer and talk to the staff. It was showing some classic horror for Halloween and was busling with customers. Next time I go back it's a must go to and see a film.
