Japanese curry restaurant
Curry Bondy is a renowned curry restaurant in Tokyo, particularly popular among locals. Situated in Jimbocho, it stands out among the bookstores and has even won first place in the Kanda Curry Grand Prix. The restaurant's unique way of serving curry sets it apart from others in the area. Despite its popularity, be prepared for a bit of a wait as there is often a queue of curry enthusiasts eager to savor their acclaimed Japanese curry.
Such a special place for Japanese style “European curry” - come first thing when they open to avoid the queues. Each curry comes with one and a half boiled potatoes with butter, and your choice of pickles. I like spicy food but the spicy was a bit much for me - medium was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, and that special kick they have! The beef is a classic but vegetable is also delicious. We also tried the mix with chicken and seafood, the way they char the chicken is quite delightful! Really a timeless restaurant to relax in before checking out the nearby book town!
Hazel — Google review
I visit this restaurant every time I come to Tokyo. We ordered two servings of their most popular beef curry along with draft beer, which came to 4,800 yen. Before the curry arrives, they serve two steamed potatoes with butter—simple but deliciously rich. At first glance, the portion of curry might seem a bit small compared to the amount of rice, but once you start eating, you realize it’s just the right balance. The first bite has a noticeable sweetness, which might feel a bit heavy, but from the second or third bite onward, that sweetness fades and the curry becomes incredibly enjoyable. On weekends, be prepared to wait at least an hour, while on weekdays at lunchtime the wait can be under 30 minutes. Still, a long line is always a good sign that the food is worth it—and this place definitely is.
Taehyun T — Google review
I arrived at around 1045am (on a Sunday) thinking it would wait 10 to 15 mins at most. Nope—i ended up waiting for at least an hour. This “カレーライス” restaurant is just that popular. When i left, the queue length doubled at least. They probably gotta wait two hours. Anyway, the beef curry arrived shortly after i sat down, and this gourmet curry and the superbly tender beef was truly a class above the rest. The potatoes and pickled side items were all delicious too. If you’re a fan of Japanese-style curry rice and don’t mind the wait, then this place is a must-try
Eugene P — Google review
It was quite a few years ago when my wife and I first learned of this spot, and over time, the reputation and anticipation built up in my mind - hype can be dangerous, so I was really hoping this would be as good as I thought it might be. We arrived 15 minutes before open and were part of the first seating. We ordered one sweet and one spicy beef curry to maximize the flavour diversity. I was taken aback by just how different the two are. The sweet brings out the creamy, buttery notes and goes down incredibly pleasantly, whereas the spicy has legitimate heat (i.e. not Japanese “spicy”) and is a little more sour as well. Combined with the potatoes and tender beef, both dishes were simply outstanding. There are so many delightful bites and the variety of pickles really add to the diversity of the meal and unlock new flavour combos. Exciting in both taste and interest, the hype is extremely jusitifed here. Mandatory stop, and be certain you come before open.
Nathan M — Google review
Normally not a fan of curry, but I think this one is really delicious. The restaurant opens at 11 am went there on a weekday at 10.55 and there’s already a line but got in as a first sitting so it was good. A few options to choose from for the protein and three levels of spiciness . Went for the spiciest level and it’s not that spicy. Service is very fast and friendly . The beef is tender, and the condiments and pickles on the table goes really well with the curry. The steamed potato with butter is served before the curry. It’s OK nothing to write home about but eating it alternately with the curry makes it taste better than on its own The Music choice is a little bit strange for the place. It is like heavy metal rock.
J S — Google review
The review below me mentioned banana latte or some kind of banana milk and that sold me as I’m a big banana fan, so the coffee and drink selections go a long way. I think the biggest surprise was how tender the beef was, the curry itself was solid, and the potatoes I couldn’t care less for, they are just regular potatoes. A solid choice in a great looking shop. The locals eating there were friendly. The pudding was also decent too.
DaChang — Google review
This curry is a bit different from the usual coco curry style that is everywhere. Starting with boiled potatoes as a start to meal. Good chunks of beef in a rich curry served in a gravy boat to put over rice. Popular with tourists and locals, servers were functional but a bit mechanical. Probably because of how busy location can be. Google maps not great. Go to opposite side of where Google sends you and you will see small sign in front of bookstore. I believe you can get to restaurant from second floor of the store. I go down alley to left of store, then take right in next alley where you will see sign. Enter dark doorway and go upstairs.
Kevin C — Google review
This is the place where a lot of Japanese curries started. You get a free starter: some boiled potatoes with melted butter. They have different kinds of curry dishes like shrimp, chicken but the recommended is beef. Beef is uncommon for a curry but it beat my expectations: not tough at all and quite tender. Served with rice topped with cheese and some side pickles. 7.8/10

Japanese curry restaurant
Rojiura Curry SAMURAI in Shimokitazawa is a popular spot known for its Sapporo-born soup curry. The restaurant offers a variety of soup options with Hokkaido vegetables and rice, all without any additives. Customers can customize their spice levels and choose from an array of toppings and side dishes. If the restaurant is full upon arrival, guests can join a waiting list and explore the vibrant neighborhood until they receive a call to be seated.
It is one of my favorite soup curry restaurants. The curry is made with at least 12 different vegetables and your choice of toppings such as fried chicken, stewed cubes, cheese, and other toppings that change on any given day. You can also choose the base soup and spiciness of the curry, so you can customize it to your liking. The volume of the curry is very satisfying. The staff is friendly and helpful, and you can enjoy your meal in a good mood.
Sho N — Google review
We visited this curry restaurant without a reservation, and even with five of us we were able to get a table. It was my wife’s birthday, so we just wanted a nice dinner to celebrate. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were warm and friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The restaurant is a little out of the center on a quiet street — easy to miss if you’re not paying attention — but definitely worth finding!
Keith M — Google review
The waiting system is self-service — you just check in and get a ticket automatically at the entrance. If you add their LINE account, you can monitor the queue and see which number is being called. They also display a notice when it’s your turn to enter. The food is delicious, perfect for cool or rainy weather. The curry portion is just right for me, and the vegetables are so fresh and tasty. Ordering is done through an iPad, and switching the language is super easy.

My friend and I visited on 25/06/2025: The vegetables were really tasty (my friend really liked the add on fried broccoli) We ordered their special kiwi Lassi and it was perfect for the hot weather. Hoping to try their coconut curry base next time :D
Yan K — Google review
I really liked the soup curry here. The taste is very similar to the original soup curry I've tried in Sapporo! The staffs are very friendly and the overall vibes is very good!
Arvin E — Google review
Randomly came across this restaurant while exploring the area. Loved it!!! The best curry with veggies I’ve had. Seasonal veggies and curry is so light and flavourful. Highly recommend this place. There was a little wait as it was busy, but you can register your phone number and then just come back, very easy!
K — Google review
The place is a little hidden on the side street, nicely lit outside. A bit pricey but totally worth it, highly reccomend for all soup-curry lovers who miss Hokkaido 😁 Menu is available in multiple language and customization is superb. Inside waiting area is super small though, but it is a minor thing.
Ekaterina A — Google review
Apparently this place doesnt sell your typical japanese curry rice, those thicker dark brown kind but this is from what I heard Hokkaido curry. I got the spicy level 6 and I loved it, just the right spice level for me. Me personally find too much vegetable is going on but I loved their fried chicken, its a must order imo. Their queue system is also easy for a gaijin like me to navigate so I would say everything is smooth. Do come and try.

Restaurant
Curry Kusamakura is a minimalist cafe with a relaxed ambiance and friendly staff. It offers Indian-style curries made in-house, with the option to choose the spice level. The menu is simple, featuring only a couple of options, with the eggplant curry being highly recommended. The restaurant has a unique blend of Indian and Japanese curry flavors, creating a fusion that patrons love. Additionally, it provides takeout options for those on-the-go.
This is easily some of the best curry I’ve ever had. It’s like an Indian/Japanese curry fusion and I love everything about it! Be sure to order a classic class of Lassi to wash it down 🍛💯😋
Bernard S — Google review
I don't usually give detailed bad reviews, but the food here was so shockingly bad for a store that is highly rated on both Google and Tabelog. Signature eggplant curry was bland and one-dimensionally tastes of burnt spice. Tastes nothing like curry - it's really just a runny spiced soup. Indian curry is supposed to have lots of depth to it, while Japanese curry should be easily palatable. This dish had neither of those. Highly do not recommend. Service is good, at least, but not enough to make up for the disappointing signature dish. I question the taste buds of everyone who called this the best curry they have tasted - please go to a proper Indian restaurant.
J C — Google review
A no frills shop that serves a pretty decent curry. There are only a couple of options available and the eggplant is definitely the option to try. You can pick the spice level, and the level 5 had a quite a nice bite to it. The ambiance is simple and is very relaxed, and the staff was very friendly. There’s also a kotatsu, which is always fun. Stop on by for if you get a chance.
Justin S — Google review
3.5 stars for me. The tomatoes are delectable and pop in your mouth, the chicken is tender and juicy, and the eggplants have a superb silky texture. However, I must agree with other reviewers, the taste of cloves was overpowering and kinda ruined a perfectly good curry. Seems like it doesn't bother everyone the same, but it really threw the balance off for me. Give it a shot and figure it out for yourself.
Jean-Philippe G — Google review
Was hunting for Japanese curry and found this place on Google. Turned out to be a surprise find as the place serves curry made with herbs typically used in Indian curries (e.g., cloves and star anise). Decently priced for the portion served with good service.
Doro C — Google review
NOTE: this is NOT a Japanese curry restaurant in case that's what you're looking for, it is an Indian curry restaurant. Positives: super cheap, <1000 JPY/person. Efficient service. Clean. Negatives: only one piece of chicken in the curry, that's why it's so cheap, you're basically eating rice and the sauce, would like to have more protein and veggies. Also, they add way too many spices in the curry, which takes away from the usual deliciousness of the Indian spices. The place itself is quite cute and it's super efficient, they take your order while you're waiting. Seems popular with the locals but as a tourist, many other restaurants in Tokyo that would be a better choice than this.
Rohenne L — Google review
I’ve got into this “Indian-Japanese original curry restaurant” finally after 2–3 failed attempts (just closed due to being too late or early, as it opens mainly daytime). The original chicken curry with rice was, honestly, quite good. The books there were good reading, too.

Friendly staff, English menu and tender curry chicken. 10 spicy level available and definitely give it a try! Eggplant curry recommended.

Japanese curry restaurant
Curry Station Niagara is a charming restaurant in Meguro that offers a nostalgic dining experience for Japanese curry lovers. The interior is designed to resemble the inside of a train, complete with vintage train memorabilia and attention to detail. Diners can enjoy their curry dishes as they are delivered on the back of a model train that passes by their table.
I’m not a huge fan of curry, but I had to come to this train-themed eatery anyway! In fact, I had one of my most fun meals! The place is full with train paraphernalia, but the highlight is that your food arrives on a train!!! It’s only open for lunch. Luckily for me, there was only one more customer. I ordered and paid for a Shinkansen curry through a machine (900 yen, only cash payments). A few minutes later, my train-shaped dish arrived on a train, and so did the orange juice. The portion was not huge, but considering I came here for lunch, it was OK!
Alex — Google review
Must-go for train fans. Not only is the amount of rare train-related memorabilia mind-boggling, but the curry is also really good! You can pick between three levels of spiciness: local (mild), express (medium), and limited express (spicy). The pork cutlet is super crispy, which I find rare among Japanese curry restaurants. The staff are really nice and very open about their passion. The "station master" (owner) guy is very good with kids, too! Your food is brought on a model train, and the station master yells out the "line" number to announce which table's order it is. Overall a very, very fun experience for all ages.
Chris B — Google review
Carry Station Niagara is a delightful hidden gem that’s absolutely worth a visit—especially if you’re a fan of Japan or just love discovering unique spots! The restaurant is built around a Japanese railway theme, and the attention to detail is amazing. From the decor to the menu design, it really feels like you’re stepping into a station in Japan. It’s fun, nostalgic, and unlike anything else in the area. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and it was a huge plus that he speaks English well. He took the time to explain the concept, share recommendations, and made us feel very comfortable throughout our visit. The food was tasty and authentic, clearly prepared with care. It’s a small place with a lot of heart, and the overall vibe is cozy and inviting. The only reason for 4.5 instead of 5 stars is that the space is quite limited, so it can feel a bit tight during peak times—but honestly, that just adds to the charm.
Rav C — Google review
I love this place, the decoration and every small detail is just amazing. You can really feel like you're in some old train station, they did an amazing job. But let's not forget this is a curry restaurant and the curry is really good. You can choose what kind of curry you want, from mild to spicy which is always welcome, some people don't like spicy so it will be good news for them. The amount served is not too big or too small, just about right. You have to order from the vending machine first, hand it to the waitress, and wait for your curry, which takes around 10 minutes. The curry is brought to you by a train, which is really cute and awesome and adds to the whole experience. They will give you a cool ticket after you finish so you can have a souvenir from this place. The price is what you can expect from a curry restaurant, so no surprises here
Pablo M — Google review
This compact spot caught my attention when I was watching a YouTube video about the fashionable Nakameguro neighborhood. The vlogger got caught in the rain and took what seemed like a long walk below the train tracks to get here. Sure enough, when my husband and I arrived in Nakameguro, it was raining, and we repeated the exact same walk we saw in the video. The cafe has been operating since 1963, and the first thing we noticed was the railway crossing signal in front. Upon entering, we noticed every nook and cranny was filled with vintage train memorabilia. A pair of young American parents were struggling with the vending machine used to place orders. There are just three booths and a small counter, so we were fortunate to ensnare the second booth decked out with authentic train seats. There was no picture menu, so we took our chances with our orders. My husband ordered the ¥1,300 Vegetable Curry, while I went for the ¥900 Shinkansen Curry with a ¥300 Hashed Potato. We went for Mildly Hot because we were mildly wimpy. The hook is that the food and drinks are delivered on a model train complete with locomotive sound effects. That's how we learned we received complimentary glasses of Lemonade. Our food came soon after. The Vegetable Curry arrived first on a regular plate on a flatbed rail car attached to the chugging engine. It was pretty good with a decent helping of veggies in a thick curry accompanied by melted cheese and a scoop of white rice. Mine came on the next nonstop express. It turned out to be a kid's portion ladled into a bullet train tray with a baby spoon. They decided to put the hashed potato on top to make it look more substantial. It wasn't bad, and honestly, I was fine with the small serving because I knew we had a big multi-course dinner coming up at Den. However, if you're a grown adult, be aware that the Shinkansen Curry is for your bratty kid. They offer add-ons like fried chicken, pork cutlet, and hamburger steak, but we just came for the train. FOOD - 4 stars...perfectly decent curry, nothing groundbreaking AMBIANCE - 5 stars...the train paraphernalia was a lot to take in but worth examining SERVICE - 4 stars...the Shinkansen model train delivery was a memorable touch TOTAL - 4 stars...pardon me, boy, is that the Shinkansen Choo Choo?

I'm a train nerd. This place had been on my list for quite some time. My friend surprised me and took me for my birthday! It was really fun to see all the train decor. We got some cool ticket souvenirs too. Highly recommend to any other train nerds out there!
Ashleigh F — Google review
More off the beaten path for a typical tourist destination, this tiny delicious curry/pork/chicken resturant is filled to the brim with train gear. Food served to you from model trains on tracks around the resturant which was exquisite
Luke — Google review
I thought this would be a gimmicky kind of place, but far from it!! The food was actually really good!! But of course, the whole experience is just bonkers, and absolutely worth checking out. They even punch you a ticket that heads from the restaurant to “the galaxy.” The waiters all dress in conductor attire, and you get to wear the hats too! Seating is pretty limited, better to go as just a pair max.

Japanese curry restaurant
SPICY CURRY ROKA is a cozy Indian-inspired eatery near Okubo Station, offering delectable chicken and lamb curries alongside minced pork rice. Despite its small size with only nine seats, the restaurant warmly welcomes solo diners. What sets this place apart is the ever-changing limited quantity curry options, ensuring a unique experience with each visit. While reservations may be challenging for non-native Japanese speakers, reaching out via Instagram DM is suggested.
Felt like i had new experience there. Its delicious and after you finish u feel fresh. Please order masala sauce to mix with the curry its very good

I came twice within two weeks time and it's always closed!!! What kind of joint are they running??? They close with no regular pattern at all. Will I come a third time? Most likely not, no matter how popular and great people claim their curry to be. Not interested in an over-confident place. Even if the owner is becoming a celebrity-like figure on TV, this is no way to run a restaurant. It's ridiculous! Waste of time traveling all the way here for nothing ... twice. Don't even like this part of town and the vibe here. Bye-bye, 魯珈! You won't last with the way you run this place!
M C — Google review
I arrived at 8:45 to find about 15 people waiting to sign up for today's seating. 30 minutes later the owner comes out with the sign up sheet. She greets everyone with a friendly smile, and says "hi" to the regulars that often go to her small curry restaurant. There are about six or 7 seatings in thirty minute blocks beginning at 11. If a block fills up then you'll have to find another open space. I arrived a few minutes before my seating and waited outside because I wasn't sure I could go in or not. The owner came out, called me by my name and welcomed me into her shop. I'm sure she remembers most people's names, but it made me feel special that she used it. The menu is not extensive by any means. There is basically chicken, lamb and a weekly special curry. But there are variations and a few add-ons. I choose the lamb roka with a side of the special curry and a beer. As you can see from the pic, it's a very interesting take on Japanese curry. And although the portions may look large, it was actually just enough if you include the add-on curry. And if the heat isn't enough for you, then there is some Indian togarashi on the counter to increase the scovel levels. All in all a nice lunch.
Bao P — Google review
Spicy Curry Roka offers, as the name suggests, a flavorful and fiery curry experience. Their curry is known for its rich and complex spice blends, customizable heat levels, and generous portions. The restaurant typically has a casual and unpretentious atmosphere, making it a great spot for a quick and satisfying meal. While it might not be for those who prefer milder curries, Spicy Curry Roka is a worthwhile destination for spice enthusiasts looking for a flavorful and customizable curry experience.

Curry was delicious. Not your typical Japanese curry. Was a different type of curry from what Ive ever had. After eating it my stomach felt "refreshed" rather than the usual "heavy" feeling I get after eating curry. Probably a lot of the different spices and herbs that are in the curry. Only bad thing I'd say is the reservation/queuing system they have. It might be a bit too confusing. I arrived at the store at 10:50 only to find out that you have to put your name down and reserve a spot. I came with a party of 3 and luckily there was only 3 spots left for the lunch hours and I had to come back at 1:20pm.

High marks for good (not mind-blowing) spice curry and being a one-woman show. The portions are quite small. I'm talking like 10 bites. I saw some customers who ordered the special get larger portions so maybe there is some super size option I missed. They go by registration system, but it seems it's inconsistent. They post that they take names at 930am, but when I came they started at 9am. Was disappointed that they were sold out of one of the popular specials (aka keema) about halfway through lunch service. I know it's cool in Japan for small shops like this to barely make enough food to serve their customers, but it just gets annoying after a while. Given the above, not sure I'd go through the trouble to return.
JK A — Google review
We waited about half an hour to get into this restaurant at 2:00 PM on a Wednesday. I had the lamb curry which had more of a subtle flavor than I expected. It had some spice but not too spicy (even though I ordered the highest spice level), and less salt than I'm used to from Japanese curry. We liked it overall, but I'm not sure I'd wait in too long of a line to have it again.

Epic curry, but the system of reservation is difficult for none native Japanese. I recommend go away by Instagram DM.

Japanese curry restaurant
Beef Tendon Curry Little Curry House is a small restaurant located near Okubo Station in Tokyo. Despite its unassuming exterior, this eatery offers delicious and affordable kare raisu. The cozy space may be cramped, but the flavors of their suji curry with strong hints of black pepper and star anise make it worth the visit. The portions are generous, and the miso pork topping is highly recommended.
Local style tasty curry with beef and/or pork. Must try if you are in the area. Go early to avoid long line waiting. Small mom and pa shop with 8 seats only.
Ski G — Google review
Great curry with a profound flavor of various spices. Tastes very different from the regular Japanese curry. But the owner and his wife cannot really speak or understand English, so better prepare before going. The inside is very cramped, just like those old school Japanese eateries, which is perfect for me, but not for everyone.
Jerry L — Google review
It's a tiny place, with seating for maybe ten single seat at most. the food was authentic. The atmosphere had such a welcoming feel, although the owner " mom and pop" only spoke Japanese, menu is also only Japanese. I just showed them photos. I really enjoyed the Japanese beef curry. Next time I'll try the pork ! Since i gets full easy I'll just get the small since I didnt finish the large.
Henry L — Google review
Basically everything about this place rules. Grime level is worse than a typical American diner. Space is too narrow for the incredibly slow-moving ojisan to really work properly. The suji curry looks like something that came out of a box, but is way more delicious. There are strong flavors of black pepper and star anise. Miso pork topping is great! Would maybe try their miso curry next time. Portions are huge. Toku size appears to be served in a giant salad bowl of some sort. You can get that same size salad bowl filled with shredded cabbage for 50 yen. It appears to be topped with "Italian" dressing and bacon bits.

Honestly, I feel myself extremely lucky for my Tokyo trip this time. Was randomly swiping and zooming around my hotel area and spotted this place. And I really, really love curry rice, even more so with beef! Sadly, I didn't make it in time when I arrived at 2pm on the first day and they were already sold out. Very friendly elderly couple especially the wife doing the service. 8-seater restaurant so be sure to reach early if not there will be a long queue outaide the shop. Not couple/group friendly due to 8-seater, each customer will just enter when available unless you are very lucky or early. You can have a very satisfied and filling meal for less than ¥1000 compared to other places with beef curry rice at only ¥550! I had mine topped extra beef, miso pork and an egg for only ¥950. The beef suki melts in mouth! Taste-wise, the curry is a bit strong on the spice "star-anise", so if you're not a fan then don't try. It was not spicy for me but for those unable to take spiciness, I think it is still acceptable. Will definitely eat here again whenever I visit Tokyo! Beware that the normal serving is already a huge amount of rice!

Great value hole in the wall. Best curry you’ll get. Get all the toppings including squid, which comes out tender.

Just really the best curry ever with beef tendons. Get the chicken topping. It is SO GOOD. Also, way too much rice! And I like rice haha.

Japanese curry restaurant
Yakuzen Soup Curry SHANIA is a laid-back eatery in Tokyo that offers a unique blend of Japanese and Chinese culinary influences. The restaurant features a cat-inspired dining room and serves up a variety of curries and soups infused with Chinese medicinal herbs known as kanpo, following the Yakuzen tradition. While the curry soup may not be as authentic as those found in Hokkaido, many visitors find the taste to be delicious.
A shop full of cat elements, cozy and cute. The chicken legs are stewed until tender, the soup base is rich and delicious, and the vegetables are fresh and sweet. Love the soup curry from Hokkaido! P.S do not to come during meal times, there will be a queue!
Fuku O — Google review
Best I have eaten in a long time. Cool place. Spice level is real.
Jeffrey D — Google review
The curry soup here is awesome. One of the most delicious curry that I have ever tried. I saw this and wanted to go because it was introduced by a Japanese TV drama. Though it is quite far from the heart of the city and hard to find, you should definitely come if you are a curry lover. The vege was fresh, chicken was tender, not too spicy, seasoning was good, you can drink up all the soup. Highly recommended.
丁匚匚丫丫 — Google review
Small and cosy soup curry restaurant, love the ambience. Enjoyed the soup curry with chicken and vegetables very much. Only issue is that the diner is small and has a queue even if you arrive early. If you enjoy spiciness, get level 4 and above.
Jacelyn Y — Google review
This place is quite famous but hidden. I don’t think the curry soup is as authentic as it is in Hokkaido, but the taste is very good. I would order more if I knew it was so delicious. And, you probably need to make a reservation online first before you come.

6 STARS! Superb flavor. Please don’t miss this well hidden treasure. It’s a little difficult to reach and sometimes you have to wait so if possible try to reserve. Very few seats. Staff is super friendly.

Great soup curry. Abundant portions. Customizable souce (I suggest the coconut one), spiciness and additional toppings. The place is quite famous, and pretty small (~20 seats) so there is a waiting line. Anyway, very delicious food. I will come back for sure.

Best of best. Need some walk from Meguro station but totally worthwile. Dont expect to be served right away. Opens at 1130 but earned ticket #3 when arrived at 1100ish. The curry is one of best I had. You can adjust spicyness, amount of rice, etc. as you like. I advise not to soak all the rice to the soup but rather to soak each scoop.

Japanized western restaurant
Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Restaurant
Kitchen Nankai Jinbocho is a renowned yoshoku restaurant in Tokyo, known for its flavorful and slightly spicier curry dishes influenced by Western-style cuisine. The most popular dish on the menu is the katsu curry. Despite the possibility of a queue, the staff takes orders while customers wait. The portions are generous, and the rich, dark-colored curry is served from a large pot at the eating bench.
Tucked away in the heart of Jinbocho, Kitchen Nankai is a no-frills curry shop that delivers big on flavor. I stopped by recently and was immediately drawn to the nostalgic vibe—wood-paneled walls, counter seating, and the comforting aroma of simmering curry. It’s the kind of place that feels like a Tokyo time capsule, and the food matches the mood perfectly. I ordered their signature curry with crispy chicken, and it was everything I hoped for. The curry sauce was rich, dark, and deeply savory, with just the right amount of spice to keep things interesting without overwhelming the palate. It had that classic Japanese roux-based depth that clings beautifully to the rice. The crispy chicken was the star of the plate. Lightly breaded and fried to golden perfection, it had a satisfying crunch that held up even under the curry. The meat inside was juicy and flavorful, clearly cooked with care. Portion-wise, it was generous without being excessive—ideal for a hearty lunch or casual dinner. The only downside is the available space because the place is small that can only accommodate less than 10 people and you may have to get in line outside to wait. Service was fast and efficient, and prices were reasonable. If you're exploring Jinbocho’s bookstores or just craving a solid plate of curry, Kitchen Nankai is a reliable, satisfying stop. I’ll definitely be returning for another round.
Kiet L — Google review
In contrast to the popular reviews, I think their specialty is not really the curry but actually the deep fried stuff? The pork were fried to perfection and they also have other deep fried things going on. For me the curry itself was pretty bland, not sweet, no spicy, just a bit salty. It was like a deep rich salty taste which covers the spice taste, and almost none sweet taste. The curry was also quite starchy. If I get to go again, I'll definitely do the deep fried dish instead and have it with tonkatsu sauce and mayo. Went there on a Saturday lunch time so there was a big queue. The wait is around 30 minutes all the way from like 11 to 1pm. I do like the service though because it was fast and efficient. There will be a lady who takes your order while you are in line. Once it's your turn, she seats you down, and gives you what you ordered. You'll eat and leave in like 10-15 minutes or so. If you want to order more, you can tell her directly while seated. The price was pretty cheap. Katsu curry was 800 Yen. I'll eat here again if I don't have to queue half an hour.
Natthakul — Google review
When you are in Japan and see a line with >90% of japanese people, you can’t go wrong. This place offers the best kare I had in Japan: dark colored, spicy, not to mention the tonkatsu and the korokke. The service is fast: you order while you are in line, you seat, you eat, you pay and you leave. As it should be.
Felipe P — Google review
I was in Tokyo for a couple days and googled best Japanese curry and this place was listed on multiple sites. It definitely lived up to the hype!! There was a line as expected from other reviews but it went really fast! They come take your order while in line so you get your food as soon as you sit down. All I can say is YUM!
Christina P — Google review
Be prepared to queue for at least 30 minutes during lunch hour. Most of the customers ordered Katsu curry and so did I. The katsu curry is delicious.
Eric S — Google review
The pork katsu curry melts in your mouth. We were wandering the neighborhood and saw a queue with only two westerners and the rest were Japanese locals, so of course we queued. We only queued for 45 minutes. The whole vibe is Showa era retro and the service is kind and efficient. Wait in the queue it is well worth it!
D K — Google review
Long line, but it moved quickly. I couldn't get exactly what I wanted without ordering two dishes (and so I did); beware that if you're going for their dark curry, you need to order the curry rice. Otherwise, no curry with the non curry rice dishes. No big deal - this place was about as authentic as it gets and it was delicious!

(Translated by Google) The store is on the second floor. I wonder if there is an elevator. The interior of the store has a Showa-style atmosphere The food is not bad and not expensive, the taste is not too salty, and there are homemade garlic slices The biggest drawback is the service attitude of an older waiter. I went to eat on a weeknight, I don't know if he is the owner, but the hospitality was very poor. 1. If you pronounce your order incorrectly, they will impatiently correct you. 2. It doesn’t work to order dishes with your fingers or ask for “this”; he will directly use the command tone to ask you to read the name of the dish. There is no sense of respect for guests at all. If you don’t want to receive foreigners or order food manually, I suggest you use the self-service ordering machine. Do all Japanese people pronounce all the names of dishes? I'm sorry, but this store gave me a bad impression of Japanese people because I felt really uncomfortable. No matter what country you are from, no one should be treated like this, not to mention that there is a waiter in the store who seems to be a foreign national, and his attitude is very good. Personal experience above. I have never encountered such rude people in restaurants in other countries or places. It might be better to have a regular pasta lunch that comes with focaccia etc. and is cheaper. Since this restaurant has very reasonable prices, we have added focaccia and rice croquettes as side dishes. The taste was worth the price. Curry wa Nomimono Akihabara branch is a Japanese curry restaurant situated in the bustling shopping area of Akihabara. The menu offers a diverse selection of delicious and reasonably priced curries, with the black curry being a standout for its unique and addictive flavor. Priced at 890 yen, the black curry features tender pork chunks combined with an assortment of spices that contribute to its distinct color.
Ordered black pork curry and chicken curry plus pork cutlet. Surprised with how good they tasted! Red chicken curry is more spicy than the black pork curry. Both are equally good. Recommended to add pork cutlet as well. We ordered small size and it was enough for us. I couldn't finish the rice though.

This is the best curry I have ever eaten. The black curry taste so amazing I want everyone to try it. If you like curry you should really try this one. It is a bit of the beaten path, but if you take your time to go there you will have the best meal akihabara has to offer. Easy to order thanks to the order machine you see in many other places. After you give the ticket to the staff you get to chose 3 out of 9 different topping. I always go for tuna mayo and garlic chips. Usally not many poeple so you get your food very quickly.

Probably my favorite curry place now. I took the katsu curry and it was absolutely delicious. 950 yen for the mountain sized portion, it doesn't get much cheaper than that in Tokyo. Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi Souhonten is a historic tempura restaurant that has been serving delicious tempura since 1923. Located in an old-fashioned building near Shinjuku Station, it's the largest outlet of Tsunahachi and offers both table and counter seating. The atmosphere is traditional and cozy, perfect for enjoying a meal. The restaurant's original location maintains its old-school charm with battered wooden premises.
Simply the best tempura I have ever had. The batter is so light that it's actually translucent. The chef is an exceptional artist. The seasonal vegetables are sourced from a small family farm. Everything is of superior quality. Reservations required. It is part of the Tsunahachi chain but a thousand times better than the other stores.

Consistent and delicious. One of the oldest (102 years) establishment in Shinjuku area, their insistence on freshest ingredients sets them apart from ordinary touristy tempura places. Nostalgic old building with ancient artifacts. Counter seats are the best to see the food preparation if you are willing to wait. Only drawback was the feeling of being rushed as their service was hurried and the atmosphere is like a fast food joint.

Delicious tsukemen with great portions, typical for the dish. Price was a bit higher but fits the location I think. There was a slight wait and a longer line started to form for a weekday dinner.

On our third day in Tokyo, we decided to try a popular ramen spot for dinner. Despite the 35-minute queue and an additional 10-minute wait after placing our order at the machine, the experience was well worth it. I instantly fell in love with the rich, thick broth and the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, which was incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, making it even more enjoyable. Order at machine before getting started. 10min wait at 7pm on Saturday. Huge portions of thicker type springy ramen, very tender and thick pork, incredible lava egg. Prefer the soup ramen to the dry dipping tsukemen as the dipping sauce isn't as warm and it's chilly weather now in mid Dec. Wonderful atmosphere and service, customers get to wait indoors out of the cold. Not my favourite ramen, but decent. JPY5500 for 4 huge bowls. Water and serviettes provided.

Nestled in the upscale area of west Shinjuku, Park Hyatt Tokyo offers luxurious rooms and suites, some featuring breathtaking views of Mount Fuji. The hotel provides a serene retreat from the bustling city, with a complimentary shuttle to Shinjuku Station. Made famous by its appearance in Lost in Translation, this five-star hotel boasts elegant rooms with stunning vistas of the city lights and walk-in closets.
Service is impeccable. The rooms are spotless. The Japanese breakfast is a delicious and bountiful feast--so much so that you may be full until dinnertime. This may be the only downside. You won't be able to enjoy the great food that the city has to offer. The rooms, furniture and lighting do feel a bit...older, but not in a bad way. I enjoyed the 90s feel to it, like entering a time capsule. Unlike other hotels in which this would be a negative, there was a quiet luxurious charm to it all. Go to the swimming pool. Skip the NY bar.

Our stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo was memorable. The service was outstanding, staff were attentive, and always made us feel welcome. The room was on the smaller side, but it was very comfortable, spotless, and had an incredible view of the city. The design and details made it feel cozy and special, even without a lot of space. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a calm, elegant atmosphere. The restaurants and New York Grill & Bar are great, having a drink with the skyline view is a must. The location is excellent, Overall, Park Hyatt Tokyo combines luxury and hospitality.

This was the first stop on our honeymoon to Japan and Korea and it did not disappoint. The hotel is gorgeous and the views are incredible. They upgraded us and had gifts for us, which included champagne, flowers, and a framed photo of us. The service was the best of the hotels we were at. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The gym is amazing, too. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again.

Staying as a Globalist at this property on points/SUA. Amazing service throughout my stay. Lots of pros, some cons. Do note the property is going through a big renovation after May 6, 2024 and not reopening for 18+ months. Staying in the lovely Park Suite, which has a dining table/4 chairs, and a living room area all in the same room, with another center round table with sofas and sofa seats. Japan hotels also have a huge list of items they can give to you complimentary which is really nice. Suite was a huge room, with a living room and a table to dine on. The bathroom was also huge with a tub, wall in shower, Dyson hairdryer, and nice Toto bidet. Breakfast was included for Globalists and it was outstanding. The service at the restaurant was amazing and had a wonderful selection. Where it shines is the room service was also included and presented really well. They were professional every morning and let us order anything off the menu, without even a bill to sign. The pool and fitness area were also really nice, and Globalists also got access to their spa. I did not spend that much time there, but it had nice views of the city.

I was fortunate to have a 2 night stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo before it closed for renovations. Globalist and used a SUA for a park suite. The room was large with a separate living room and bedroom and had a view of Mt Fuji when clear. Service was very good and the staff went above and beyond helping me with my proposal. The hotel while dated was impeccably clean and well maintained. The highlight of the stay was using the facilities at the club on the Park every morning, best hotel gym and spa I've been in. Hopefully they can update the hotel without changing too much. I really appreciate everything the hotel did helping with my engagement.

Had been dreaming to stay a night here and had the chance as we celebrated my friends birthday. The staff were welcoming, warm and so helpful. The room was grand and comfortable and smelled like a dream. We had the opportunity to use a suite upgrade certificate and so glad we did. We were placed in the Park Suite King. Aesop amenities for the bathroom. Stocked bar and snacks (for a charge of course) but added to the atmosphere. The hotel is starting revocations and excited to return to see the hotel reborn. Also had dinner at New York Grill with amazing views and food.

The best ever! Incredible service and large perfect rooms. The most elegant, original, and perfect design. From the rooms to hallways and an unbelievable spa. Don’t listen to what anything negative anyone says, it’s the best if you want a unique hotel with insanely elegant design and fab service. Will never forget.

We stayed here in 2014 as a splurge at the end of a trip to Japan. The service, amenities, and attention were incredible. Worth every penny. Fast forward 5 years and we returned to Japan in 2019 for Christmas. Upon walking up, someone met us OUTSIDE, greeted us BY NAME, and thanked us for returning. We were blown away by the hospitality and genuineness of the staff. Once again our room was breathtaking and our stay was incredibly memorable. An amazing experience that I recommend to anyone going to Tokyo.

Shinjuku Kappo NAKAJIMA is a renowned restaurant located in the basement, offering traditional Japanese multi-course meals with a focus on sardine dishes. The kaiseki courses are priced higher during dinner but set lunches are available at an affordable price and include substantial meals with rice, miso soup, pickles, and tea.
We walked in at open without a reservation on a random weekday and got seated immediately. Service was impeccable. Food was memorable. Price was reasonable. Can't think of a single criticism.

1-star Michelin restaurant. We really love this one. We booked omakase dinner and find it amazing in every course. Entrance is downstair with narrow staircase. Service is great and staff can explain each course in English. The best dish for us is flounder fish. Seasonal dish, firefly squid & bamboo shoot, is also tasty. Booking can be done 3-month in advance via a link in google map. Concierge service will support you through booking process.

Unique restaurant that specializes in sardines. We tried the top two dishes: sashimi sardines (which were great and tasted like ceviche) and the coated in egg and fried sardines served boiling hot in a broth. Both great and very different. We arrived before it opened and there was already a line, but we were seated without waiting once it opened and it was a Saturday

This was an incredible dinner experience that I had here. This restaurant is located in the basement of a building near Shinjuku station and I got reservations ahead of time. It was a complete tasting course of a ton of different Japanese sushi and food. All of it was so good it is hard to decide what my favorite was. I think it is definitely the freshest and best wasabi I have ever had in my life here. But there wasn't anything that tasted bad at all. The staff was also very friendly and explained all the dishes to us and made sure that our drinks were always full or if we needed anything. For what this place offers it is a very good value and I can't wait to come back when I am in Japan again!

Got here at 11:15 and there was a line. Get there a little early! Came for lunch and the food was great. Really cute area and cool atmosphere. We tried the fried sardines, the egg sardines and sashimi style. The sashimi style is definitely an acquired taste. Definitely order the one with egg. Our whole meal was around 2,800 yen!

4.1/5. Very simple yet delicious, also incredibly affordable for what it is. Tried the sashimi, fried sardines and sardines in egg. Sashimi was very special, fresh and extremely sweet. Fried sardines and sardines in egg were classic, definitely worth trying as well. Can come back again.

What a gem! This was the highlight of our dining in Tokyo and such a special experience. Nakajima is run by a husband and wife. The service was phenomenal. Everything was fresh and carefully curated to create a true Michelin style dining experience with a set menu and multiple courses. One of those places where the team have great pride in their craft and work to ensure your own experience is special. Thank you!

Arrived 5mins before they opened and were first in line. Once they opened their doors, a queue quickly formed, so get there a little earlier if you can. The menu really has just the three set options and a number of sides. The meals are cheap and the done very well. When we left there was still a queue to the top of the stairs. Great place for an affordable but highly regarded lunch!

It's a nice cafe in Nishi Shinjuku. The clerk keeps your table and then you order food and drinks. Their coffee and desserts are fantastic and the vibe is excellent because the customers are not that noisy for Shinjuku.

I love the Paul Basset brand. This shop is a curious fusion offering a larger menu than the stores abroad. Aspects of the location design are pleasing : large skylight and nice music but the aesthetics are not the same as the ones at the stores found abroad. Great coffee and great service.

I expected more from this place really. The cakes come in batches and they don't inform you when a product is coming back so I ended up buying whatever was there. The grape tart was tasty but overpriced. Same with the coffee, it was good but not worth the price. Also the place is VERY noisy, I could hardly have a conversation with my partner.
Alejo V — Google review
For a chain, the coffee is quite good. The place is spacious, but loud. It is attached to an Italian restaurant. Reasonable prices for their lunch menu (ends at 14:30). Servers were quick and kind and one of them could speak English. Located near the west exit of Shinjuku station. Good for a quick coffee fix or bite as they have to go options as well. Not the best place for quiet activities like reading or studying.

This was quite crowded on a weekend, so if you can make a reservation then I recommend it. The atmosphere was nice and I loved the overall vibe. The place was crowded. After ordering you have to bring your food by yourself. I got some tea and absolutely loved it. Did not try any food. Recommended.

A nice and surprisingly quiet place to hide from the hustle and bustle if you’re in the area on a weekday morning. The coffee tasted pretty decent, but the art was disappointing. The croissants were average. It was a nice, comfortable place to chill though. I enjoyed my time.

Mandala is a basement restaurant adorned with vibrant textiles, specializing in North Indian cuisine such as curries and tandoori dishes. Visitors have had mixed experiences, with some praising the neatly cooked and smooth curries along with fresh naan, while others were disappointed by the lack of flavor in certain dishes and service issues. The staff is noted for being friendly and capable of communicating in English to some extent.
The waiter was welcoming, the naan was simply the best, and the keema was just the right consistency. The spice level was true to word. Overall, I enjoyed eating here. 😊

One of the most descent north Indian curry restaurant I’ve visit in Tokyo. Their curry is all smooth and organized that you can imagine that it has been cooked neatly. Naan was also fresh and moist. If you got tired of cheap Indian curry in Tokyo, it worth trying it.

The food was tasty. But I found a hair on the curry which I reported to the waiter for the replacement. The waiter came back in few mins asking me to show the hair again. So it was not a reliable place where you shouldn't risk your health and the commitment to maintain so is none.

Order the shrimp and chicken curry combo for 1265 yen, and you will have what is shown in the photo: 2 shrimps and 3 pieces of chicken sized like sugar cubes. The rest is sauce, which, however, works well with the nan bread, although the restaurant should take the name - the one and only Indian sauce and bread restaurant!

Good service with tasty food. It is tucked into the basement of a Chinese restaurant it's easy to miss but woth it if you find it. There are three sets during the lunch with choice of six currys. A great value.

On the sample of one lunch, I'd rate it as a high four, but my friend says it's the best in the area, and one of the best he's eaten in anywhere. Spice scale is not Japanese. The naan was a little unusual but good. Price reflects the quality and location. On a second visit I still can't decide if it's a good value, but I was impressed by the yogurt for dessert. I think this time was little spicier than I remember from before, but my friend said they're in general a little inconsistent.

Came here for lunch - lined up to get in and it was pretty busy for a standard Thursday. Lunch ranges feom 1300 to 1700 yen. Ordered the nanban tonjiru set which was really good, just the volume is small. They serve you with a bottle of evian water when they sit you down. Little gimmicky and also not environmentally friendly with all the wasted plastic bottles vs a jug of water. Overall good place to visit.

On our second day in Japan, we decided to explore without a plan. As we exited our hotel, we discovered a restaurant within the hotel premises. The food looked delicious and the lunch prices were quite reasonable. Amazingly food is very good.

First meal in Japan. Arrived late and went for some traditional Japanese restaurants without plans. Bad experience! Stay away! BEWARE! We sit in the common area, not box, and got charged both table fee and service fee without notifying us. The waiter attempted to show us a final number without itemized details. I asked for details, found 550 yen table fee each person, and 10% service fee on top of both tax and the table fee. The only star is for the waitress. She was professional all the time, took a lot of efforts to intro the dishes to us. Food was utterly disappointing too. The shabushabu we ordered was normal, tastes ok, not bad. But with 3200 yen we expected a little more. The 4800 yen meal was very overpriced. I loved the first tofu dish, and that’s all. The chicken patty skewer was dry. The mackerel fillet dry too. The rice with minced chicken and egg tastes unbearably sweet. Not worth 4800 at all.
Thunder Z — Google review
What a wonderful find. We were looking for a different yakatori place but decided to try here and I’m glad we did. The service was outstanding. The yakatori was perfect and there was a wide variety to choose. The side dishes including potato salad, tofu, Japanese pickles and more were all outstanding. We laughed when we ordered almond jelly, what really tasted like an almond custard, but we’re amazed how delicious it was. It had the ambiance of fine dining with a final price of about $50 US for two including high end sake and strawberry soda. HIGHLY recommended.

Magic Spice Shimokitazawa shop, also known as "Magispa", is a popular soup curry restaurant that has gained fame for being the inventor of soup curry. The concept behind Magispa is to offer a variety of healthy curry dishes that promote a delicious and balanced diet to prevent illness and cure ailments. The restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring dishes like Beef and Chicken curry, both simmered to perfection.
🍛 A Wild, Wonderful Experience at Magic Spice Tokyo Where do I even begin with @magicspice_tokyo? My wife stumbled across this place, and I’m so glad she did because it was a truly unforgettable experience—one that felt like a trip to another dimension rather than just another Tokyo restaurant. Stepping inside, we were hit with a riot of colours, incense-laden air, and an almost otherworldly, Buddhist-inspired vibe. The décor was wild, the music eclectic, and the atmosphere felt like it belonged somewhere between an Indian bazaar and a spiritual retreat. It’s safe to say we were transported far away from the Tokyo we’d come to know. But the real star here was the soup curry—a comforting, spicy, and deeply satisfying bowl of goodness that was unlike anything I’ve tasted before. It had a complex depth of flavours, with hints of Indian spices balanced perfectly in a rich broth that was both light and hearty. Each sip felt like a warm hug, especially after a long day exploring the city. Magic Spice Tokyo is the kind of place that’s not just about the food (which is fantastic) but also about the experience. It’s a place where cultures, flavours, and worlds collide in the best possible way. If you’re looking for a unique Tokyo food adventure that’s a little bit different and a lot of fun, this is the place to go. #MagicSpice #SoupCurryTokyo #TokyoEats #JapanAdventure #CoupleTravels

The atmosphere is vibrant and colorful, with a fun and quirky vibe that makes the meal even more memorable. The portions are generous, and the ingredients taste fresh. A must-visit spot in Shimokitazawa for curry fans!

I'm an Indian and I loved the restaurant atmosphere, especially the lord ganesh statue. very lively ! Since I'm new here and started experiencing Japanese food very recently, I couldn't comment much about the authenticity or taste. However, the chai being served here is excellent. I could feel a variety of spices present in it and simply a fresh taste. It is very different from the traditional indian chai. I felt it is unique with multiple spices added to it.

Not your typical Japanese curry. This is a soup curry, just so you know what you’re getting yourself into. With that said, this place was bomb! They got so many options but very straight forward ordering. And the vibes are so psychedelic, yet inviting. Def coming here again.

Very unique soup curry restaurant. The building is very easy to spot with its psychedelic murals covering it. They are known for their extreme spice levels. In addition to the spice, there are many toppings and even the option of adding CBD to your curry. Maybe this was a way to counteract some of the pain from the spice? They brew their own beer as well and it was fantastic.
Max K — Google review
Score just based on my opinion and tasted preferences. Heard the hype of this curry place and saw the reviews so decided to try for myself. First impression, it didn't look like curry, didn't smell like curry, certainly didn't taste like curry. More like a Sichuan mala soup than not, just less numbing. None of the curry aroma, no any kind of milk or starch to give the soup a little more depth to hold everything together. I was so disappointed but not surprised since I did read some reviews about the watery soup. If some say this is Hokkaido style curry soup, it didn't look like it either. IMHO, this place does not serve curry, just some spiced watery soup with no resemblance of any curry I know of. Chai tea was good though. Anyway, I am quite surprised at the averaged high score in reviews, guess taste is very subjective, oh well...
Edmond S — Google review
Amazing!!! My hunt for spicy food led me to Magic Spice, and it absolutely delivered! The soup curry is a unique and flavorful experience, and with seven spice levels, you can truly tailor the heat. I cranked it up and was thrilled with the intensity and depth of flavor. A must-visit for spice lovers!

This is the original soup curry restaurant with its main branch in Hokkaido. Although this restaurant's curry is called curry, it is very difficult to describe its unique spicy flavor. However, once you take a bite, you will surely be captivated by the spice and flavor.🍛🍛🌶🌶 You can create your own original curry by adding your own spiciness and toppings. We recommend that you try this soup curry and discover a new world for yourself.👍✨

CoCo Ichibanya, a well-known chain of curry houses scattered across major cities in Japan, is a must-visit destination during your trip to Tokyo or anywhere else in the country. The restaurant specializes in serving delectable Japanese curry as its main dish. It offers individual stalls for privacy and convenience, and you can even order via your phone by scanning a QR code if you're not comfortable speaking Japanese.
Ordered the pork cutlet and vegetable rice and curry plate. Got a 500g with an extra pork cutlet to share with my young daughter (normal spice) and my husband got the 300g (level 2 spice). He usually enjoys spicy food but this one was pretty hot! The normal spice level was perfect for me. The pork and vegetables were great and the pork curry sauce was awesome. Great service, reasonable prices, and quick (tablet ordering).

My second favourite CoCo Ichibanya restaurant in the country! I've been here so many times, I've lost count. Eating here means you're always guaranteed something tasty at a reasonable price. Conveniently located and very English-friendly/ foreigner-friendly! Moreover, I've never had to wait to be seated, despite it being located in one of the busiest districts on the planet! Would recommend the chicken katsu. The chicken is so juicy and the katsu coating is always so crisp and crunchy. Perfect combination. Real guilty pleasure stuff.

Dining Experience @ CoCo Ichibanya. . Founded in January 1978 by Tokuji Munetsugu, this international quick-casual restaurant chain specialises in Japanese curry rice. . The Hayashi Kare To Tonkatsu / Hashed Beef Curry Rice With Breaded Pork Cutlet (JPY ¥1,273) is a different spin on the typical Gyu Kare / Beef Curry. . The base still features steamed white rice and assorted pickles, the former fluffy soft with grainy sweet flavour, the latter crunchy juicy with vegetal sour sweet flavour for contrast. There's still scattered pieces of tender sliced seared beef that carry meaty savoury flavour. . However, the difference here is the 'curry' is actually a rich demi-glace sauce, made with all-purpose flour, butter, tomato paste, white onions, shiitake mushrooms, celery, carrots, salt, beef stock, bay leaf, thyme, black pepper, and parsley, resulting in a thick creamy demi-glace sauce with robust meaty savoury salty vegetal sweet spice flavour. . Completed with a crisp outside tender inside tonkatsu / breaded pork cutlet with meaty savoury sweet bready flavour.

One of the main issues with restaurants in Shinguku is that they buy reviews by giving free items for 5 star reviews. This one does not. We ordered the pork curry, beef sauce, and vegetables add-on . Very tasty, people are very friendly and it’s very affordable. We ate there twice already and this is the only restaurant I tried more than once in Tokyo. Edit: 3rd time is the charm. Tried fried oysters and fish. Both were great!

The Perfect Japanese Curry Dish (Even Without Rice!) I visited a Japanese curry restaurant for lunch today, and it was a truly unique culinary experience. Japanese curry is a completely different story from the familiar Indian or Thai curry. It is thick, rich in deep umami flavors, slightly sweet, and offers a comforting and addictive experience. It’s a dish that manages to be complex yet homey and warming. Although I adhere to a ketogenic diet and ordered the dish without rice, I was completely satisfied! I added a rich topping (like crispy Chicken/Pork Katsu, or stewed vegetables) which paired wonderfully with the thick and excellent curry roux. The result: The dish was delicious, rich, and very filling, proving that Japanese curry is a true pleasure even for those avoiding carbohydrates. In conclusion: If you haven't tried Japanese curry yet, you're missing out. And if you’re looking for a tasty and satisfying low-carb option, I highly recommend asking for the dish to be "curry roux and topping only." A wonderful lunch experience – I will definitely be back!

Not much too say, I think everybody knows this chain. They might differ (outside of Japan?), but usually it's always a safe pick for good Curry. This store in Shinjuku is no exception! It was really good. Paid about 1400¥ for mine with Katsu, Karaage. (visited on 04.10.2025)

Food was good despite the wait. We went around 9pm and waited about half hour. Spicy lv 3 is a decennt hot but enjoyable heat where you can still taste the curry. If you like a Hot from Nandos lv3 is good. Get the handmade katsus if not yet sold out, the crumb is crunchier. Typical tight seating arrangement, to be expected in such a busy area though.

Shiva Curry Wara is a cozy restaurant near Sangen-Jaya Station in Tokyo, known for its delicious Indian curries and sides like naan bread and achar pickles. Despite its small size with only around 11 seats, it's popular among locals and visitors alike, often resulting in long queues during lunchtime. The restaurant has been serving Japanese-influenced Indian cuisine for about a decade, using seasonal local ingredients to create warm and flavorful curries.
This is one of the top Indian restaurants in Tokyo, and it truly stands out. I follow them on Instagram, and from what I gather, the owner visits India every year. These trips are not just for inspiration; he learns from local chefs and brings back authentic recipes. The result is a menu that showcases some of the most genuine Indian dishes from various regions of the country. The flavors are bold and authentic, with some dishes being delightfully spicy, just as they should be. I’ve had most of the curries available for lunch , and every single one was lip-smackingly good. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Indian dining experience in Tokyo. It’s a culinary journey that you won’t want to miss!

It’s a tiny restaurant with only three small tables and four counter seats. You line up along the narrow staircase in queue as you wait your turn. The employees were all friendly and very efficient. Even with the limited seating, our group of five (seated 3 & 2) were seated very quickly. Everything was delicious.

A very small place. Best make a reservation! But quite comfortable, if a place can be made for you, with Indian tapestries and other decor everywhere. The server seems genuinely pleased to be there and quite humorous if you can follow Japanese. There is no English on the menus, which seems odd for such a place in such an area of Tokyo. But someone is able to describe the menu in basic English to those who cannot read the katakana easily. The food is first rate but more pricey than spicy.

Snuck in with no wait on a rainy day. Great ambiance and excellent food. Every curry from the lunch menu tasted phenomenal.

After reading several positive reviews, we—a group of two vegetarians who recently moved to Tokyo—decided to visit this restaurant. However, a few aspects of our experience were quite surprising: Limited Vegetarian Options: Having tried many Indian and Nepali restaurants in Tokyo, we were disappointed to find that this place offers only one vegetarian curry—mixed vegetables—regardless of whether you order à la carte or a set meal. The curry itself didn’t feel authentically Indian, as it included ingredients like zucchini, brinjal, and okra in a gravy that didn’t resemble traditional Indian flavors. Unexpected Drink Policy: After placing our order (one à la carte and one set meal), the staff returned about five minutes later to inform us of a newly implemented rule requiring each customer to order a drink with their meal. This was unexpected and made us reconsider, especially since the drink prices seemed relatively high and the options were limited. Despite our repeated requests to opt out, they insisted this would be the last time they’d serve food without a drink. Billing Transparency: After finishing our meal, we were surprised to find that the restaurant did not provide a proper itemized bill. Instead, they simply wrote the total amount on a piece of paper and handed it to us, which felt quite unprofessional and lacked transparency. Won't recommend for vegetarians, there are few more good options nearby.

Great little curry place. Space is very limited so make a reservation if you can, or prepare to wait a bit. There are plenty of places to kill time at near by. Food is great! Great use of spices. Highlights for me this visit were the strawberry and pomegranate papadum, oyster coconut curry, and the chai. Would definitely go again. Prices very reasonable too. We didn’t drink, but spent a bit of 3000jpy each for this light meal for 2.

The best Indian restaurant I’ve been to in my life. Probably also the best price/taste ratio I’ve ever seen. My recommended orders are • The daily set with 2 curries and a Naan • The mango lassi (that thing is out of another world) Be prepared to wait a bit during lunch time, but trust me it is totally worth it.
Victor M — Google review
Always a huge line every day at lunch and now I know why. Waited for an hour but ended up enjoying one of the tastiest Indian meals I've had in Japan. Had the 3-type curry lunch set (that was all the curries on the menu) with naan & mini rice, served with some cabbage achar (pickle) and a spicy condiment on the side. Fantastic. You can taste the freshness of the spices in each curry... definitely ground by hand. The Kerala veg curry was probably the most delicious veg curry I've ever had. Ordered some seekh kabobs on the side which were also superb. One big downside, however, is the wait. We arrived just before 12:00 noon and the place was already completely full with a queue of 9 ppl ahead of us spilling out onto the street. The waiter said if you arrive around 2:00 you might get in quicker but last order for lunch is 2:30. He also recommended calling ahead for dinner if you want to avoid a long wait. Anyway, top quality stuff hence the crazy lineups.

Cocoro Shimokitazawa is a renowned restaurant that specializes in Japanese soup curry, featuring a variety of vegetable-packed options served in a simple yet inviting dining space. The establishment is recognized as a pioneer of soup curry, with the owner drawing on extensive experience in Italian and French cuisine to craft this unique culinary offering. Diners praise the aromatic and flavorful nature of the soup, highlighting the tender chicken and impeccably cooked vegetables.
We chanced upon this place when the first restaurant we wanted to eat at was full, and we were overall happy with the food. The weather was pleasant so we sat out (it was almost full indoors) and we scanned a QR code to order - pretty straight forward. The curry was tasty, vegetables fresh and the chicken was tender and flavourful. Staff were nice too.

I got the hamburg and vegetable set. Spiciness level 40. It was good, a bit spicy but not so much that you sweat. The vegetables were fresh and plenty, and it was a fantastic and tasty variety. The hamburg was seasoned perfectly, and tender and tasty too. I would come back when I’m back in the area.

I like this restaurant about 7mins walk from shimokitazawa station! Many selections in the menu for soup curries! Veg curry, Beef curry, Chicken Drumstick curry, Katsudon curry, etc. You can select your preferred spiciness from 1-10. Simply delicious and yummy! 😋

Came here again for the curry soup. Ordered 14 vegetables soup curry and you can choose the spicy level. I had medium and can taste the hotness but not like chilli hot. The lassi cost 280 yen serves in a latte glass and delicious.
LYDIA C — Google review
Best soup curry I've ever had. The first impression is the amazing aroma from the soup that fills the whole restaurant. I had the chicken curry, which was really tender and every vegetable was fresh and cooked to perfection. I need to try out some other popular shops to compare, but I hear from more experienced soup curry eaters that this is one of the better ones and good baseline to measure others. I'll definitely be back again. Update 2019-05-25: 2nd visit. Had the 980 yen weekday lunch set even at 4pm - bonus! We had chicken soup curry, which was tough, and ham cutlet soup curry, which was better sans toughness. The soup curry is still great.

Small, but lively place. Was packed during lunch time on a Monday, but we were quickly seated. There are many curry options to choose from including a completely vegetarian one. You can choose your own spice level, rice portions, and add extra toppings for additional charges. Portions are big. Everything was delicious! If you’re looking for a good soup curry spot in Shimokitazawa, look no further!

Second time back to this curry soup place, for my second time back to Shimokitazawa. They have multiple spiciness level up to 100 for their curry. Chose level 5 because wanted to enjoy the freshness of the ingredients.
Steven T — Google review
I had a green salad and katsu spice curry. The taste was great, but the 20/100 spice level ("spicy" on the menu) was basically gravy. I managed to convey this to the staff member, who brought me a bowl of mixed chilli powder and spices which helped. Will go with 80/100 next time.

Suna-no-Misaki is a small restaurant located just a short walk from Sakura-Shinmachi Station. Despite its limited seating, it offers a private room for a more intimate dining experience with friends and family. Known for its commitment to quality, the restaurant closes once their signature curry runs out and even shuts down for three days to prepare the spices used in their dishes. The menu features four distinct curries, each boasting unique flavors and textures.
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of dining at 砂の岬 with a friend. For lunch, I had a delicious entrée of Mutton Keema, paired with a side of Chicken Keema. I finished the meal with a refreshing Coconut Milk Lassi for dessert (coconut milk lassis are a rare drink even in India, so I highly recommend checking it out!) The ambiance was very calming, and the interior was tastefully done. The service staff were friendly and provided great descriptions of the menu and dishes. As an Indian, I found the food exceptionally well-cooked and flavorful, much like my mother's home-cooked meals. The spices were perfectly balanced, capturing the essence of authentic Indian cuisine you would find in an Indian home. I highly recommend visiting 砂の岬 if you want to experience the true taste of Indian home cooking.

I tried all four curries with a friend. ~¥1000 for each meal was good and filling. The curries each had their own unique flavour and texture. There wasn't any oil on the pappadum which I loved. The lassis are great too! However, the wait is long even if you get there before they open.

Very well maintained, cozy little restaurant. Food is delicious, a bit expensive for the quantity served though. I go there because the vibes inside the restaurant are just fantastic. Every nook and corner of the restaurant has been decorated with Indian stuff that makes me nostalgic. Having a nice hot tusli tea after the meal in a cozy and comfortable environment makes up for the high price.
Deepak K — Google review
A funny contradiction in its own. The decor and atmosphere point towards an eclectic, quasi-nostalgic vibe but the hospitality was just cold and bland. Our curry set arrived with the waiter giving a 5 minute unenthusiastic, bullet train speed monologue on the food. Made no attempt to elaborate further as his monotone voice could not be understood. But don’t get me wrong, the food was light, simple and well portioned, just a bit overpriced.

(Translated by Google) The atmosphere is great. The interior is cute and relaxing, like a hideaway. We climbed the stairs inside the restaurant and ate on the second floor. Everything was just so cute. They have a wide selection of drinks, so I always have trouble deciding what to order. The curry is, of course, absolutely delicious. The chicken, mutton, and sambal are also delicious. The owner was very friendly, and it was a pleasure to chat with him about various things. I'm from another prefecture, but this is the kind of restaurant I want to visit again and again.

East Indian Curry Company was founded by owner-chef Akida out of his love for curry. The restaurant offers a unique blend of Japanese, Indian, and European-style curries that are sure to win over any curry enthusiast. A must-try dish is the tuna katsu curry, featuring large pieces of breaded and deep-fried tuna served with rice and the restaurant's signature curry sauce.
A very unassuming shop the serves up a mean fish curry. There’s literally a couple of options, with medium spice or extra spice. I opted for the fried tuna extra spicy option and it was fantastic. Pickled veggies and cabbage are laid out for you to serve yourself however much you want. The lady running the place was super sweet. Odd spot for a curry shop, but worth going to.

Came here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon at 1230. Was able to get a seat quickly. Had the maguro katsu curry spicy - it's pretty spicy - for 1250 yen You can have all you can eat pickles etc and green leaf salad. They also provide additional curry sauce if you would like more. What I loved the most was the service... The two (owners?) Both served with a smile and we're super friendly to everyone. Would say its a mix of Japanese and Indian curry.

Quite a hidden spot in tsukiji. Had pork curry and tuna curry. Curry is a vegetable based curry on the sour side and watery, not sure if it was a bad batch of the day. Definitely not the rich japanese vegetable curry expected. Service was fast, sides were self service. Wouldn't recommend this place and wouldn't come back. Come for watery, sour soupy curry if that's your thing.
Leung K — Google review
Very good curry and tuna! Unfortunately the maguro rice bowl was sold out when we ate.

One of the best places we’ve eaten at during our time in Japan. We tried both the medium and spicy fish curry as well as the pork. Everything was done to perfection, the batter was light and crispy without being oily, the fish was perfectly cooked and flakey and the pork simply melted in your mouth. The curry sauce was divine and the garnishes were available to add to our liking. The owner and women attending to us were incredibly friendly and spoke very good English. They kept tending to us repeatedly during the meal and were very hospitable. We also got to try some lassi and it was, like the rest of everything we tried here, stunning.

Nasu Oyaji is a well-known restaurant in Shimokitazawa, operating for over 20 years. Despite its location in a side alley, it has gained popularity for its unique name and simple menu featuring 5 types of curry: chicken, beef, vegetable, mushroom, and special curry. The cozy space offers a great sound system with vinyl spinning on the turntable, making it an ideal spot for music enthusiasts.
Simple place, light music & lips smacking food! We ordered Chicken Curry & Special Curry. Both curries were tasty, rightly spiced & just blended smoothly with the rice, also perfect portion size! Coming from India, we have a high standards for all sorts of curries. Nasu Oyaji is simply a remarkable curry place. Loved it!

The best curry ever! The staff were incredibly friendly, and the music in the shop added such a great vibe. If we ever come back to Tokyo, we’ll 100% visit this little curry shop again. They even have a guest book on the tables — don’t forget to leave a drawing or a note 😄

Came in near closing on a Wednesday night. The place is slightly off the main road. Cash only! The curry was a delight, amongst the top Japanese curries that I’ve had. The service was quick and helpful, just ring the bell at your table when ready to order. My only regret is that I didn’t go with the larger size curry, if you have an average or above average appetite I highly recommend getting the extra portion. Ambience was excellent with a vinyl playing classics quietly in the background. No AC though.
Moddy P — Google review
What a quaint and lovely curry shop nestled in the midst of residential houses in Shimokitazawa. The interior brings a retro, vintage, and chillax vibe with handrawn pics adding a personal touch. The music from vinyls played filled the air with a relaxing tone, blending in beautifully with the interior and enhancing the dining experience. The owners are friendly and welcoming of guests, and the curry was amazing. We had the special curry and beef curry and both were deliciously spiced with the right balance of spices, sweetness and savoury tastes. It's not overly sweet like the typical Japanese curry we tend to think of and the flavors blended well with the meat, vegetables and egg in the curry. The honey yogurt was a lovely way to end the meal. Definitely a must visit if you are in the area!
Ai L — Google review
If you like great music and tasty curry, then you’ll love this small restaurant. During the weekends, this place is always full of people in a long line waiting to get in. But in the weekday, it’s pretty easy to get in especially if you come around 13:00 or so. You can really taste many of the spices quite distinctly and it makes you feel warm inside. I usually get the chicken curry, but today i decided to order the curry with beef, chicken, and vegetables mixed together. Basically the curry is all the same, the only difference is the toppings, either chicken, beef, vegetables, or all-in. The music here is great and is full of nice records with a variety of genres.
Shusuke I — Google review
Wonderful option for curry in Shimokitazawa. We had the lunch set options that come with a drink and salad - one with a chicken curry, and the other with a veggie curry (added a boiled egg for ¥100). The curry is a little sweet, flavourful with more spice than your usual Japanese curry, and a good portion. It's a small restaurant inside, so best for solo diners or pairs. The decor is cool retro, and they were playing 80s J-pop. We came about 15 minutes after opening on a weekday afternoon and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table.
Kyle — Google review
Review on May 2023. I picked this place after looking at Google map randomly and saw that it's a small quaint retro looking place, so I got interested. The interior brings us back to old times where they have vinyl spinning on the turntable. They have nice retro song selections, as the staff will change vinyl every 10-15 minutes. Nasu Oyaji Curry serves only beef, chicken, vege or mushroom curry rice here, no pork. We ordered their special curry rice and mushroom curry rice. Both are good with sweet, deep and dark Japanese curry, slightly spicier than regular Japanese curry... pretty much like Java style. The curry and rice may be a lot but their meat or veggies are really on the skimpy side... so may seem expensive in that regard. They have English menu (shown in pic) and the staff can speak some English. Overall, I like the atmosphere and the music they played that time is really great to listen to while waiting for our food. We were there at around 1pm on a Friday, so waited for 2 people in front of us, maybe just 5-10 minutes. There are about 13 seats I think... table and counter seats. Ideal for 1-4 pax.

The informal ambiance, friendly staff, and delectable Northern Indian vegetable curry make it a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts.
Amazing Indian restaurant. This is definitely a hidden gem. We had 4 different appetizers and each one was better than the others. For the main we did butter chicken which was mild in spice with amazing flavor. The achary chicken was great, way different than any other i had, spicy and great flavors. We had large naan and huge portions. 10/10

Forgot I was in Japan because the first bite was very authentic Indian! Found this recommendation from the Michelin Guide, and it didn’t disappoint. It is nestled unassumingly along a quieter street of Tokyo, and can be found on the second floor of a building. Be careful as you might get lost. There was no big or grand sign, just almost a hand-drawn one. Google Maps pin was accurate, though. The prices were very reasonable. I only paid 3,250¥ but I had butter chicken curry, half chicken biryani, cheese naan, and a glass of ginger ale. The staff members were nice and professional, they speak very good English, too. I booked my dinner slot online as Google says it requires reservations. It also required a name in Kana and a Japan mobile number, which luckily I have because I am a resident of Japan. This was an excellent dinner. They only open from 5-10pm.

You can tell chef did his own interpretation of Indian curry - I’m not saying he changed it, but there is a Japanese touch and it’s for good. Some dishes are less biting but having a richer mix of spices. The curry sour soup is very tasty and goes well with rice. Tandoori chicken was so tender and juicy. My friend loved their cheese nan. And we finished every dish on the table. On a cold and rainy night like that, can’t think of anything more comforting.

From the moment I stepped into Katchar Batchar, I was no longer in Tokyo but transported to a vibrant, bustling corner of India. This wasn't just a meal; it was a transcendent, mind-altering journey for my taste buds. To call it "good" is an insult to the sheer genius happening in that kitchen. It's a culinary masterpiece. The butter chicken is not just a dish, it's an emotion. A silky, rich, and ridiculously deep flavor that proves every other butter chicken I've ever had was a pale imitation. The spicy mutton curry? A revelation. I've never tasted such a tender, perfectly spiced explosion of flavor that left me wanting to lick the platter clean. Seriously. I almost did. Every spice, every ingredient, every single morsel is handled with a level of artistry and respect that is rarely seen. The naan is an ethereal cloud of perfection, the tandoori chicken is a smoky, juicy triumph, and the house-made chai is a warm, aromatic hug in a cup. This is a religious experience for curry lovers. The staff are so warm and welcoming, they feel like long-lost family. If you haven't been here, you haven't lived. Stop reading this and go. Now. Your life will be better for it. Katchar Batchar isn't just the best Indian food in Tokyo, it's the best Indian food on the planet.

I had one of the best Indian meals of my life today. From the very first bite to the last, I was completely impressed. The Nono Pork Vindaloo Curry was rich, bold, and perfectly balanced, while the Lamb Seekh Kebabs, paired with the fresh mint sauce, were simply outstanding. The combination of the curry and the kebabs was nothing short of perfect – flavorful, aromatic, and harmoniously prepared. Every dish was cooked with such care and precision that it was impossible not to notice the passion behind it. This was far more than just a good meal – it was a true culinary highlight. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Five stars almost feel like too little for such an extraordinary experience. I am absolutely thrilled and will definitely return.

Known for its fish curry, this small curry house specializes in Indian thali meals. It has a casual atmosphere and is slightly expensive. It seems to be more of a bar at night. The main issue is the location, which is difficult to find and requires taking an elevator to the 5th floor. Google Maps was not helpful in locating it. Naan bread is not offered on the menu, but their set lunch looked appealing and was ordered anyways.

Definitely has a dive atmosphere and on the expensive side. I think it's primarily a drinking place at night. Main problem is the location. It's hard to find and then it's actually on the 5th floor after a 4-floor elevator. Google Maps was not very helpful. No naan on the menu, but the set lunch looked good and I ordered it anyway. Nan Station is a cozy spot located just a short walk from the North Exit of Shimokitazawa Station. It's known for serving authentic Indian curry with extra-large, chewy naan at reasonable prices. The restaurant has limited seating, including indoor tables and outdoor smoking seats. The atmosphere is described as dive-like, but it offers Wi-Fi for patrons. The curry is flavorful and spicy, prepared to Indian standards by Nepali staff.

Obviously a little dive with a lot of drinking in the evening, but includes Wi-Fi. Very atmospheric, but with only seven seats and two small tables and a counter with about five more seats. About 7 more smoking seats outside. Lots of bottles visible. The curry had a nice thick base and was spicy to the Indian standard, though the staff appears to be Nepali. The naan was unevenly cooked but pretty tasty. I didn't have the spaghetti, but I was impressed by the size of the portion. Overall seems to be a pretty good value for a solid four stars.

Japanese curry restaurant
Anjali is a popular Indian restaurant known for its cozy and trendy cafe-like interior. The menu offers Sri Lankan and Indian-style dishes, including options like mutton and shrimp in spicy curries. Visitors have praised the beautifully spiced Indian prawn curry and the unique blend of spices used in their dishes. Despite the small menu, patrons recommend trying the mutton keema and ebi (shrimp) curry to experience different flavors.
I had a fantastic meal at Anjali! The chicken curry was great but the shrimp curry was absolutely delicious, one of the best curries I’ve had. It has a small cozy vibe and the owner is very friendly. As it only seats around 8 people you might have a short wait but it’s worth it. The music choice was great too. All round a very memorable experience and I’ll be back if I’m ever in Shimokita again!

A great, Southern Indian/Srilankan style curry restaurant in Shimokitazawa. Maybe one of the pioneer-curry-restaurants in Shimokita, currently there are so many latecomers (including great ones and so so ones) here, though. For the first comers, shrimp curry could be a must item. Their space is so tiny, so be careful and come earlier or later if you consider here for your weekend lunch. Enjoy!

I love this place! The menu is small, but it doesn't matter to me because I get the mutton keema every time. My friend prefers the ebi (shrimp) curry, and I would recommend the two curry if you are visiting so you can try more flavours. The spice blend is delicate (the mutton is the spiciest of all of the options) and the pickles are bright. The portion was perfect for me, but my friends said it was a bit small for them. The store is small, but cozy. One of my favourites in Shimokita.

What an amazing curry! I had the mutton and chicken combo and I couldn’t tell which one was better. I’ve tried many Indian and Sri Lankan curries but this is certainly one of the best I’ve ever tried. Great vibes, music and fast service. If you’re around Shimokitazawa, definitely come and try it!

A small cozy restaurant having delicious curry inspired by South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine. The menu is limited, making it easier to order.

Delicious curry - very reasonable, 1200 yen for 2 curries at lunchtime. Chef is a really nice guy too!
Gillian D — Google review
This place is incredible. I came for lunch and got the two curry set. I picked mutton and shrimp and was incredibly pleased. Everything was delicious. I can’t emphasize that enough. The restaurant is small but luckily we didn’t run into a line. I wish they had a little bit more food since it was just great. The two curry option is 1300¥ and one curry is 1100¥ though I highly recommend the two. I should also say I am well aware shimokita has a ton of curry places I have yet to explore but that doesn’t change the fact that this place is great

Nestled in the heart of Tokyo's upscale Nishi-Shinjuku district, Sushi Miyako has been a culinary gem for over four decades, captivating both locals and travelers alike. This esteemed restaurant specializes in two rotating omakase courses each month, highlighting seasonal ingredients and traditional Edomae sushi. Open on Sundays and National Holidays from noon until 7 pm, it also features a limited lunch course that promises to delight.
Sashimi quality is very good. Sake recommended is excellent. Only thing is the clam soup somehow not feeling fresh as expected. Located at B1 beneath Hilton hotel which need some time to find for first time comer.
Po P — Google review
I visited Sushi Miyako for omakase dinner. Had over 20 courses in total from start to finish. Each course was exquisitely prepared and tasted amazing. The team was friendly and professional. Couldn’t be happier.
Macy T — Google review
This place completely blew me away. From the moment I sat down, the chef was incredibly welcoming. The food itself was on another level. Every piece of fish was amazingly fresh, and the variety on the menu is honestly insane. It’s not just the usual cuts—you can really taste their creativity and passion in every bite. I have been to several other sushi restaurants around ginza and azabu, but this the cost performance of this place is on a different level. What makes it even crazier is the value. The quality, the quantity, and the nonstop flow of dishes for the price you’re paying. There were no long pauses, just an endless stream of perfectly crafted sushi and variety of well served seafoods. If you love sushi, this is a spot that balances warmth, freshness, diversity, and value in a way that’s really rare. Can’t wait to go back!
Kolo C — Google review
I didn’t expect it to be this amazing! I’ve been to other omakase restaurants before, but this one is hands down my favorite so far. Initially, I was a bit skeptical because it had a 4.9 rating on Google Maps—can it really be that good? It’s rare to see such a high score in Japan. I was also unsure if I’d get an authentic Japanese omakase experience since the restaurant is located in the Hilton Tokyo. However, I was completely wrong. The food and service were absolutely incredible. You know that feeling when you taste something so good that it makes you say, “Wow”? That happened to me three times during the meal! On top of that, talking with Chef Horii, who prepared and served my dishes, added a personal touch that elevated the entire experience. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I’m so glad I made the reservation and gave this place a try. If you’re in Tokyo, make sure to visit—you won’t regret it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it soon becomes so popular that you’ll need to book months in advance!

BEST dinner ever! We ordered the Chef's Special Course and our experience there was out of this world! The sushi, specially prepared by the Head Chef Mr Igarashi, and the food served were fresh and delicious. Each dish came decorated with its own specialty and flavor; absolutely stunning. Staff are awesome too. We'll definitely visit again whenever we're in Tokyo. Very highly recommended!

By a wide margin the best sushi dinner we have ever had. The flavors from the fish were incredible, bested only by the subtle nuances of different Wasabi varieties, of smoked seaweed wraps, salt blends, it just goes on. Even my beer selection - a silk option - I had not seen previously was fantastic. And the staff, every person was top notch, helpful, and attentive. A true dining experience and pleasure.

Unbelievable experience. By far the best omakase dining experience I’ve ever had. Every piece was mindfully crafted and so delicious. The meal was comprehensive and covered all types of seafood. Furthermore the chef made sure to ask if we had enough to eat. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Soup restaurant
Curry & Cafe SAMA Kanda, originally from Hokkaido, has gained popularity across Japan for its specialty soup curry. This unique dish, originating from Sapporo in the 1970s, features a light curry flavor with various meats and vegetables. Customers rave about the explosive flavors of the tomato-based soup curry with chicken and vegetables, available in customizable spice levels. The restaurant also offers coconut-based curry with pork and a variety of toppings to enhance the dining experience.
Yummy delicious soup curry with fresh ingredients. If you're thinking what protein to get, I got the chicken thigh but go for the hamburg instead. The hamburg was juicy and more flavourful than the chicken. The vegetables were all slightly flash-fried so the exterior had a nice crunch. For the soup, the shrimp version is definitely more like a soup while the tomato one is thicker like a stew so choose whichever you prefer. Spice level wise, it can get quite spicy for japanese standards so stick to 5 and below if you have moderate spice tolerance.
Jill J — Google review
I had hamburg patty with curry in shrimp stock (can choose from many different soup base) which taste really good. The meat and veg are cooked just rightly so. I chose level 8 spiciness and is just nice for a spicy fix.
Hui T — Google review
Food was great! A great selection of protein to choose from. The curry is fragrant and spicy… we got their signature chicken with vegetables. Level 10 & Level 5. Level 10 is the bombs! Just enough spice to create a nose sweat.. iykyk… no queue when they opened at 11:30am on a weekday. But the locals working around started coming by around lunch time. Takes while for the food to be served though.

We came to Japan a lot of times and even we had visited Hokkaido in summer and winter time long time ago. Although we knew Hokkaido soup curry specialty, we did not taste soup curry until today. This is a clear miss to us. You can choose the staple of soup curry, then you can choose the soup base ( tomato soup, coconut soup, sea food soup, etc), the spicy and hot scale from 0 to 50 ( anything above scale of 20 is rated as dangerous level). Then you can choose how much rice. I cannot eat too spicy food. I ordered the Tomato soup base vegetable soup curry with spicy scale of 1. We also ordered coconut soup base. All our curry soup selection are excellent and so delicious.
Adrian L — Google review
Very good soup curry in Tokyo. I tried and recommend the chicken leg soup curry in coconut flavor with added toppings like season vegetables like fresh tomatoes , okra etc , pumpkin , broccoli. The chicken was soft , very well stewed and soft, the curry was delicious with tangy and creamy taste. In terms of taste it’s one of the best in Tokyo soup curries. If we you do during weekend lunch expect some waiting time. The portion size was also good.

Curry was special. I ordered the beef one, the meat was really nice! Im not really a spicy food lover, so I recommend to stick at 3-4 if you cant really take spicy. The tomato soup is nice! The light soup was well, light.

Nestled in the bustling Jimbocho district, Sumatra Curry Kyōeidō has been a culinary gem since its inception in 1924. This charming eatery specializes in aromatic Sumatra-style curries that are uniquely adapted to Japanese palates. The star of the show is their signature black curry sauce, crafted from an impressive blend of 26 spices simmered with fresh vegetables and meats, all without any wheat flour.
I am not gonna write you a love song. You have to try it for sure.
Sam K — Google review
I ordered the “Sumatra Curry with Beef”. To be honest, this doesn’t have much to do with actual Sumatra but just a naming / aesthetic stemming from the times Japan was Westernising. The curry itself was unique but slightly bitter, and needed a little more salt. The beef itself was tender and delicious but the curry sauce itself wasn’t anything spectacular. One problem I had though was the water I was served with my meal tasted really weird, like an unpleasant tap water taste unlike what you normally get here in Tokyo where tap water is clean.
Alex M — Google review
The service was speedy and efficient. I could taste a lot of spices in the curry. The salad is coleslaw.
Yusuke G — Google review
The taste is pretty difficult to explain good or not good for the first visiting but I see many people always are standing in line every day. I ordered beef curry which was not I expected I usually eat as beef. I believe this is the authentic, may be addicted from now on.
Molto S — Google review
A very popular and traditional curry rice restaurant in the area. Curry taste is very personal. What I don't like is lack of spicy aroma. Pork is very tender. Beef is not outstanding. If you want to have a bigger than usual rice plate, this is the place to go for. Lots of salary man come here to build up carbohydrates before working hard for the rest of the day.
Booger B — Google review
I ordered chicken curry and the curry is served within 2 mins so if you are in rush, is a good place to go. The curry is very bitter and a bit spicy. Not the normal type of curry(Japanese or Indian or Thai or Indonesia)and is not the type of curry that I like.
Hannah — Google review
I am fairly certain that Curry in Sumatra does not taste like this. Pleasant 80s decor and jazz on the radio. Seems pork curry is most popular here, but the beef is also recommended. I got the hayashi beef expecting it to be the "best" as it was most expensive. It's basically a dark gravy with onions and mushrooms that tastes like something you'd get out of one of those soup packets in an American supermarket. The ingredients are as commodity as you can get. I don't mean that in a bad way really! It's just what it is. There isn't really any spice, but a degree of bitterness and sweetness that I suspect is from how they cook the onion. The acid and sugar from the (also commodity) red pickles definitely enhances the flavor.

Bondy, located in Tokyo, is a popular restaurant known for its delicious curry. The establishment gained fame after winning the Kanda Curry Grand Prix in 2011 and has since become a local favorite. Despite being somewhat hidden on the second floor above a bookstore, it attracts crowds of hungry patrons, especially during lunch hours. The menu features a variety of curry options, with the beef curry being particularly popular due to its rich roux made from an assortment of spices and fruits.
They are renowned for its exceptional Japanese curry, particularly the chicken curry. This dish featured tender chicken pieces enveloped in a rich, flavorful sauce crafted from a blend of spices, vegetables, and fruits. The curry’s depth and complexity were professionally prepared and super enjoyable. Each curry order was accompanied by two boiled potatoes, served with butter and salt, which I didn’t get to be served usually at regular curry restaurants, yet providing a delightful complement to the curry. The restaurant’s dedication to quality and flavor has solidified its reputation as a must-visit destination for someone like me who loves curry😍
Yasuやす — Google review
First of all... CASH ONLY! no other payment method accepted. Secondly, the curry is good, but not queue-worthy good. I got the beef curry with the highest spice and it was pretty spicy but not bad for someone who is used to eat spicy stuff. I suggest coming here at off peak hour. I was here at 13:50 on Monday and there was no queue. I was in and out of the place within 20 minutes.

Heartwarming, soul-nourishing meal. Really tastes like your loving mother made you a hearty Japanese curry rice. I ordered the chicken option, and it was so good. It also came with sides of baked potatoes with butter, which just made the entire meal so amazing. Even with all that plus the cheese, it was Fulfilling but not overwhelming
Eugene P — Google review
The service was good, and the restaurant was very cozy. There was no queue, and best of all, the food was delicious. For everyone’s reference, I went there at 5:15pm and ordered the chicken curry.
Glaiza — Google review
Went 1 pm but the line was so long that we settled on eating in other curry restaurant around the area. Then, my friend suggested an idea of waiting for dinner time and go back to this and I said why not? We walked around, towards Tokyo dome(found out its red hot chili pepper’s concert) until dinner time. Went back 6pm and found a line that is more manageable. Waited 20 mins and entered the restaurant filled with good vibes. Good music btw! Comes our Beef curry order and I can’t just you know… complain? how good it is. European curry is rather sweet but it is, to some extent, subtle enough not to overcome the curry flavor. You can pick the spiciness and I regretted picking medium spicy. So my suggestion when you go here: 1. Go dinner time. Much less people compared to lunch time 2. Pick the spiciest for real kick maybe since I find medium spicy way less than I was expecting.
Ivan D — Google review
I’ve been wanting to try this place for the longest time as it is a highly recommend place according to curry aficionados and gourmet tv shows. To avoid the crowd I arrived around 5pm on a Sunday and waited less than five minutes til I was seated. Had the chicken with cheese topping. It was a bit on the oily side, but tasty curry indeed. The only dissatisfaction was that the cheese topping does not melt smoothly into the curry; it just hardens up to a solid chunk. I had to awkwardly chop it up with my spoons as they don’t have knives or forks.

We had the bone-in chicken curry with the tomato and garlic broth at spice level 1 and the duck curry with standard broth at spice level three. Both dishes where phenomenal. Every dish is highly customisable and there was also a QR code link to an English menu for ease of ordering. We added cabbage to the duck curry and fried onion to the rice. We also ordered a mango beer that tasted like a radler, ie: beer mixed with mango nectar. The highlights were the broth and the root vegetable in the curry. Minoringo is a cozy and unpretentious eatery located in the bustling Harajuku district of Tokyo. The restaurant offers a variety of flavorful curries made with fresh ingredients such as vegetables, fruits, and an array of spices. Known for its inviting atmosphere and counter seating, it's an ideal spot for a casual date or a quick meal while exploring the popular tourist destination.
There are about 10 seats total in this place so expect a wait. They have Heineken on tap which was pretty cool. Pretty solid curry, some of them have a good kick to them - I enjoyed my meal, but I do think the reviews might have overhyped it, and I wouldn't wait more than 15 minutes for it. Quick service and not a bad price.

1) 'not spicy' chicken curry is chock full of spices and mildly hot (spicy). Not suitable whatsoever for children, despite what the menu and proprietor claim. 2) was there during off-peak mid afternoon hours with no wait. Wanted to share two of the large portions (yes, they're big, as others have noted) between two adults and a small child. Was told off by the female proprietor with a "three orders only". Fine, if you're fluent in English, put signage up requiring minimum orders. 3) counter service, locals eatery. Unsuitable for tourist traffic, despite the touristy location. And you'll be treated with the corresponding attitude

Amazing curry — came here soaked from the rain and tired and drinking a beer and eating hot curry was life changing. Any tourist who wants really good authentic curry for a decent price should come here! Waitstaff spoke enough english to help and it was FAST (two minutes type of fast) because everything is premade. Best curry I have maybe ever had, but maybe I’m just exhausted from walking around!

Best curry to have on a rainy day. I highly recommend the pork curry. The price is reasonable and the portion is big.

One of the better curry rice place I have eaten in Japan! The curry was piping hot when served, with general portion of curry and meat. The price of the meal is also reasonable considering that the place is located at Harujuku. The only downside of this place is the limited tables available, which also mean longer waiting time if there’s crowd. All in all, good place to visit! Will visit again if I return back to Japan.
Joelle L — Google review
A long wait (nearly 3pm) was necessary to get a seat in this much talked about curry rice restaurant. The unique menu choices and cozy space near Harajuku station boosted the anticipation. But unfortunately the food was only good...not great. Good flavors, yes...but lacking depth of really great curry. Service was reasonably good, but one of my curries (I got the 2 curry combo) was served less than hot. No lingering after finishing your plate as the waiting guests are staring intensely at your back.

The establishment has been featured on television multiple times, gaining recognition for its delicious curry and unconventional menu options. Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted by a ticket vending machine featuring animal images representing the various meat choices available. Kasei Curry offers customizable spiciness levels and an array of meats including duck and kangaroo, catering to adventurous eaters seeking new culinary experiences.
I love this place, they have great curry with adjustable spiciness, interesting meats and good vegetarian options. On the wall is some autographs from popular anime and manga artists. The only bad thing is the entrance, I'm not a fan of steep stairs, but that can't be helped. If you're travelling, or a regular in Ikebukuro, this is a great alternative to the chain curry places. I especially recommend the duck and the kangaroo meat curry!

What an interesting restaurant. Like many places in Japan, you can customise the meal to taste. Spiciness, meat, etc. I opted for duck, as duck curry isn't something I've had before. You can also get kangaroo and other less common meats, depending on availability. The sauce was nice- not the best curry I've had in Tokyo but not bad at all. The novelty is in the meat I reckon, more than anything else.

Loup de Mer is a cozy yoshoku restaurant located in the heart of Tokyo's curry paradise, Kanda. This bright and compact eatery offers traditional curry and rice dishes, with a lunch menu featuring four curry options accompanied by a side of soup. The Japanese beef curry and dry curry with omelet are highly recommended by visitors. The restaurant tends to get busy during peak hours, so arriving early is advisable.
My favorite curry in the world. My first visit was back in 2015 and I try to visit every time I’m back in Tokyo! I dream about it and wonder if I could ever make it just as delicious one day. The two main items to get are the Japanese beef curry and the dry curry with omelet. I love both but I love the beef curry more. The opening times/days are listed on their website - check before going! I arrived at 11:25am on a Tuesday with only one person ahead of me. The restaurant filled up by 11:40am. It’s a small spot with limited tables so turnover could be a bit slow during peak times. Plan accordingly and enjoy your curry.

Very relaxed atmosphere. It almost feels like a family run restaurant. They were very friendly I would highly recommend it. The place is upstairs, it probably sits 15 people tops, but what they lack in space they make up in the quality of their food. It comes out hot and ready to enjoy. We didn't speak Japanese, but that didn't stop us from ordering, enjoying the meal, and leaving with a smile over our face. Warning, this place is cash only, as many places in Japan.

This is the first time we have tried omelette and Japanese curry rice in Japan - and it has set a really high bar. The curry has the right amount of spice and is very flavourful. The omelette is fluffy and creamy. Definitely would want to come back again.

Waited for around 15-20 minutes for a five person group for weekday lunch. Amazing curry and braised beef omurice… the egg curds were so silky and the sauce was rich. Also very generous portions already without ordering add-ons. The onion soup side went so well with everything too. Cash only!

This restaurant is located at 2nd floor. They have long service since 2004. Their signature is dry curry rice with omelette. I had minced meat cheese cutlet. Their curry sauce has rich broth and match with cheese. Almost all of customers are male, maybe it is because their portion is too big for female.

Brought my family here and there was already a queue before 1pm. We had the dry curry, hayashi curry and beef curry. All of it was very good but I would recommend the hayashi curry if you like the sweet and sour taste! You can opt for the soup with your dishes!
Celine S — Google review
If you're struggling to find a good omurice then this is the restaurant for you. The egg was cooked perfectly and the sauce is not too spicy or too sweet. We went there during lunch at 1pm and the restaurant was very quiet with no queue, which is a bonus.

The cozy and friendly atmosphere makes it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The curry shop offers a variety of curry options, including daily specials like scallop and mushroom coconut curry or pork vindaloo.
I really liked my chicken curry. I was pleasantly surprised by the spice level. I did the lunch single curry with rice for 1000 yen so it was a great deal. The curry had nice cuts of light and dark meat so it was moist without being too soft or chewy. The chai tea was declicous and my favorite chai in Japan so far.

I visited for lunch on a weekend. There were about five people ahead of me in line, but thanks to the fast turnover, I was seated in around 30 minutes. The curry dishes were exceptional — each one was bursting with flavor and clearly crafted with great care. You can really sense the chef’s attention to detail and passion in every bite. The flavors were original and distinctive, offering a taste experience you won’t find anywhere else. The staff were also very warm and attentive, even during busy hours. One staff member in particular, working at the stove in the back, left a lasting impression. He noticed we were having trouble deciding what to order and kindly offered helpful suggestions with a friendly smile. His thoughtful and welcoming attitude truly added to the overall dining experience.

Not worth the hype! The husband and I both tried their pork and chicken curry combo and it was seriously lacking flavor. My pork curry had two pieces of meat that consisted mostly of fat. Located in Shinjuku City, this highly regarded eatery is known for its exceptional pork loin and tenderloin sets.
The BEST katsu I’ve ever had! It’s definitely my No. 1 katsu so far. The staff were incredibly kind, and it felt like a family-owned business where everyone was genuinely welcoming. Among all the food I had in Tokyo, this place offered the most value and satisfaction. I’ll definitely visit again next time! I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Had an awesome meal of tonkatsu at sharikimon chawanbu. We had the hire rostsu and it was so soft and juicy and non greasy. We also ordered the curry vegetable sauce and it went well with the rice. The portions are big but somehow we all managed to finish it all! Delicious lunch and it was a nice walking area too. Highly recommended and we will come back here again!

Great addition to the tonkatsu scene in Tokyo. They take reservations, but seats weren’t yet ready when we arrived on time (lol). No matter, the tonkatsu was excellent, and was done in the low temperature “white batter” style of Narikura and Keita. Their hire is one of the best I’ve had. Curry was good, but not a must-order.

Authentic Indian food experience. I had a thali (kind of set dinner) which came with 2 non veg curries, rasam, veggies, poori, rice, sweet and tea. I liked poori, chicken curry and Tea. Quantity is generous and price is slightly on the upper end.

Delicious Indian food! The bread was so tasty! As were all the curries. We tried most of the meals and everything was great!👏🏻 The mutton was so tender and simply scrumptious. Timing of the food could have been better, however worth the wait. The rose lassi was delicious. If you fancy good Indian food, this is the place.

As an Indian living in Tokyo , I am always up for trying different Indian restaurants here. I heard about this place from my friends and thought of giving it a try. I ordered the following: Aloo bonda: 1200 yen for 5 peice ( very expensive and average taste) Dal tadka : 1300 yen ( taste was good but the serving was very less) Bhindi Masala 1400 yen ( again serving was very less) Roti 700 yen for 2 peice ( Good taste and size) The restaurant is fancy and the taste is decent but it's very pricey for the quantity.
Astha B — Google review
I was kind of in a rush, and service seemed too slow, so I had to write it off. However the three stars is partly because the menu seemed too expensive. Also, all the dosa had coconut in it.

Great authentic southern Indian food. We ordered about ten different dishes and they were all great. I heard that the owner travels to India each year to purchase spices. We were taken here by some of our Indian friends and can't wait to go back.

Nice view to the Buddhist temple in Tsukiji. We didn't think this restaurant was good value. We ordered biryani and assorted starters. The food was ok but I've had many amazing Indian meals for much less. Its menu is all halal which would add to the cost. Note that we wanted a light lunch and didn't order any curries.
Suz W — Google review
Don’t be put off by silly low star reviews - they’re clueless about good Indian cooking! There are virtually no Indian restaurants in Tokyo that serve masala dosa, idli sambar etc. The execution of the kitchen is great and if you order a variety of dishes in a group your palate is challenged throughout. Principally, per South Indian, some flavoursome vegetarian cuisine, but the fish curry is excellent as are the meat dishes - and they use decent lamb too. 90% of indian restaurants in tokyo you find the lamb is way too tough! Give it a go!
Knight R — Google review
This was my most favourite South Indian restaurant in Tokyo. Went after long time and found that it is not the same anymore. ordered special vegetarian meal. Appalam and poori were both dripping oil and the curries were too spicy. Would think again before going back specially with the pricey menu on offer.

Fantastic dining experience, especially if you go alone. Really cool viking decor as soon as you step inside. The place is quite small and will only seat about 6 people, but for what it is, it’s better that way. The owner/chef is really chill and makes some fantastic curry. Definitely different to the usual Japanese curry you’d find anywhere else, and worth stopping by if it’s on your way.

A pleasant serene atmosphere. The restaurant was decorated with a lot of passion, not afraid to go all out with the decor while still adding their own personal touches. Amazing chicken curry at a very good price! The curry is complex and has a unique taste. I had it with grilled cheese on top which I hadn't tried before, and it was really nice! The restaurant itself is a tiny, intimate room with only around 4 or 5 seats. It's thoughtfully decorated with Viking era weapons, accessories and crockery. It also has a nice whiskey selection although note that whiskey is only served in the evening. The host was extremely friendly and charming, and was very patient communicating with us using a translation app. Highly recommended!

How has this place not gone viral? Amazingly decorated - Viking style with fake weapons made by the owner himself. Only 7 seats around a beautiful bar. Beer is served out of Viking glasses and the wine selection is also great. And the CURRY! So good and so affordable. Come for an authentic Japanese curry experience and stay for the wild decor. Always great to visit a Go Go Curry restaurant for some quick and dirty curry. The food was fresh and tasty, while the curry had a very rich taste. I especially liked the burger steak, as it was crunchy on the surface and soft inside (and was of course very juicy). A rather unique burger steak! The food was served within five minutes after ordering, the price was cheap (¥900 for medium size, which I ordered), the portion was way more filling than I expected it to be - simply fantastic! Everything considered (service, efficiency, price, and food quality), I would definitely visit again.

Loved my experience. Always dreamed of trying Japanese curry and stumbled upon this place near Tokyo main station. I visited during lunchtime rush, but the wait was surprisingly short. Ordering via the machine can be daunting but it’s pretty straightforward and I chose the pork and chicken combo (number six). The only member staff was: efficient, polite, and the food was delicious; full multitasking at its finest. It’s a unique twist compared to Western curry, but didn’t leave me in a food coma. High food quality and great value for money. Highly recommend, even if you don’t speak Japanese!

It's interesting place and good for quick bite, especially if you like curry. Prices are very reasonable and service good. As tourists we had bit of an issues with the full process of ordering but with small help we've managed. The steps are: - check next to the machine the partially english menu with numbers of food you'd like - insert money first ( ideally do orders 1 by 1 as it might be quicker for non Japanese speakers) - select food based on number and portion size - press green button to get back change - repeat for every person in the group - give the small ticket to the chef and your food will be with you shortly

Booked this place on Tabelog to have lunch with friends. We were 6 adults and a kid, and got the 10,000 JPY omakase. We were sitting at the counter and could see the staff preparing our food, which was a very nice experience. The service is great and the staff is really kind. The menu we got is an excellent value for money, and I would definitely recommend it. The choice of drinks (especially nihonshu) is also great.

I came here for the omakase lunch on a Sunday afternoon. At first the course started well and we had a refreshing jelly appetizer, some fresh fish sashimi and a warm uni rice, which was excellent and got my pallet ready for the mains. However, the main plate of sushi was not what I was expecting. Although the chef prepared it fresh in front of us and gave us every piece before making the next, the sushi was not delicious and some tasted weird. The fatty tuna seaweed roll and the miso soup at the end made up for it as it the roll had a good balance between the fatty umami of the fish and the salty flavor of the salmon roe. The staff were very kind and easy to approach and helped us with our requests. Overall the experience was very nice and something you see rarely with the chef making the sushi right in your face. I would recommend it as a lot of locals come here which is why I believe that we were unlucky that we had the bad bits of the fish.

If you like sushi, this is the place to enjoy it. The food is amazing and the whole staff is really friendly. The sushi master explains every dish on detail so you know what you are eating. This is the place to eat in Shinjuku

Indian restaurant
Dhali Curry Bangladesh & Indian Bar & Restaurant is a hidden gem located in Kabukicho, offering traditional and delicious curry dishes. Despite its small space, the restaurant is popular among locals, especially at night. The owner, who also serves as a DJ, creates a lively atmosphere with great music. The menu features flavorful options like mutton curry and biryani rice with just the right amount of spiciness. Even for those not typically fond of spicy food, the flavors are irresistible.
Fantastic meal and service! Doesn't matter if your drunk or your simply hungry, the owner (Jakkir) will absolutely take care of you and give you an incredibly tasty meal . Such a kind, man, I highly highly recommend everyone to come here and try the cusuine!

Tiny bar, huge atmosphere! Met the owner of 19 YEARS!! He also played us some of his music (he’s a DJ). Sat and had some Gin Ricky’s, sake shots and mint beers. Definitely an unexpected great time! For being in the adult district, definitely had a classic “dive bar” night out!

A tiny little curry shop in kabukicho. It is a favorite of the locals who work in the area, especially at night. Also open during the day and is great for a quick lunch. Very small space but filled with music from the owner who is a dj. The sound system is amazing and plays electronic music, which might be a turnoff for some. The food was great. Very traditional curry, I had the mutton and it was one of the better I have had. Owner also speaks English very well.

Really friendly bar. We watched the boxing here!

Had an absolute blast. What started as a stop for a beer after a long day turned into a fun and long evening with the fantastic owner and a few locals. This place and the people will forever live in my heart.

They operate like a club, with a great atmosphere but exorbitant prices.
