Today visited this beach in the afternoon. We walked from Mothers ashram till Bakers street shop. Dark blue color waters welcomed me. With monsoon to set soon the beach looked calm and composed. Boats were doing trials on this beach. With rocks on both sides, enough space to walk, get down and touch the sea waters this beach is mesmerising. Afternoon with not much harsh sweaty sun, the whole beach looked glittering amidst blue sky and dark clouds. This is my first afternoon time visit to the beach. The promenade is indeed beautiful with coconut trees swaying in breeze. Lighthouse, crafty bazaar, Pondicherry museum, art museum and park are places around to visit. There is a lactation room spot in this beach. Travellers don’t miss visiting this beach when you travel to Pondicherry.

One of the best beaches in Pondicherry. Ample of parking space available and a lot of food stalls. There are also provisions for changing. Rock cliffs are there which look beautiful. We also found a lot of shells and clams on the beach. Highly recommended. Must visit while you’re in Pondicherry.

TN and Pondy people, please stop unnecessary honking and follow basic traffic manners, 📣📣🤯🤯🥵🥵 Poorly Maintained & Unhygienic Beach This beach was very disappointing during our visit. It was full of waste and felt extremely dirty. Maybe it was because of Ganesh Chaturthi, but apart from that, there were also dead fish, prawn shells, plastics, and other garbage scattered around. The stinky smell from dead fish and the many fishing boats parked nearby made the experience unpleasant. Parking is available, but overall the beach is poorly maintained and unhygienic. Not recommended unless it is cleaned up properly.

Here you will find many surfing training institutes, offering various short and long-term courses. Speaking about this beach, I found it to be very clean, rocky and wide. There are two rocky piers on both sides of this beach, where you can walk and reach the last point. Sitting on the last point of the pier and observing the strong waves crashing down on the rocks, paired with strong winds, will transport you to a different world altogether. Worst food experience ever. Felt like a scam. Non veg meals cost ₹ 250 and what they serve is just rice and a fish curry with small piece of fish. Not worth for the money. No side dishes. No proper display of menu with their costs.

Worst experience we were all girls and there were many men who were drunk and standing in que with us. Owner should have maintained different que for men and women. had ordered fried rice they put so much black pepper powder. Also it took around 20 mins for our order to be prepared. Order management was also bad.manager was giving priority to drunk people. Worst restaurant

Rock Beach is a very nice place to visit in Pondicherry. The view of the sea is beautiful, and the sound of the waves is very calming. It’s a great spot for morning or evening walks. The area is clean and has many small food stalls and cafes nearby. You can’t swim here because of the rocks, but you can sit, relax, and enjoy the sea breeze. It gets a bit crowded, especially on weekends, but still feels peaceful. A lovely place to spend some quiet time. I gave 4 stars because of the crowd.

Nothing negative about this place except the accessibility. Many a times Cars are not allowed to nearby area so may be an issue for elderly people. Very nice place where one can spend hours gazing at sea (Bay of Bengal). it is a must visit place whenever you visit Puducherry. Have been here 4-5 times. Walk along the beach is romantic for couples. There are many small small cafés which serve you till late night. Sunrise at 6 o clock attracts a lot of people. Gandhi statue in the middle of 800m beach walk path is also attractive.

Complete 1.5km long rock beach covers the esplanade area except a stretch of about 100 meters of proper sand beach with great views on both sides. Good place to sit and relax, minus the shacks and drinks. And please don't smoke here, it's prohibited to smoke in public areas in whole of pondicherry. At dawn or dusk the beach provides good views and winds.

A Scenic Escape with a Touch of French !! Puducherry Beach, or Rock Beach near French colony as the locals call it, is a refreshing break from the chaos of city life. Unlike many other Indian beaches, this one is surprisingly clean—probably because it’s more of a rocky coastline than a sandy stretch. Strolling along the promenade is a highlight, especially in the evening when the whole place comes alive with street performers, vendors, and families out for a walk.

Many people defecate openly hear at the beach in morning time. I would recommend people to stay away and not play at the beach.

This area is used mostly by the fishing boats. People defecate here in the open. Go to pier nearby where it is more clean and picturesque.

Serene and quiet beach, not more than 10-15 locals on beach, 0 tourists, clean blue and green water however sand on the beach has lot of litter ... Streches far... VEERAMPATTINAM BEACH : Veerampattinam is the biggest coastal village in the Union Territory of Puducherry and is located between Pondicherry and Cuddalore. The village is 7kms from the city centre and frequent bus services are available from Pondicherry. The village has over 500 years of recorded history and is very close to Arikamedu archaeological site. It has rivers on both sides which helps fishermen protect their boats during cyclones as the majority of the swell in the sea is absorbed by the rivers. The surrounding village looks green always as it's enriched with water and nutrient resources. Veerampattinam is also home to one of the biggest festivals - The Temple car festival, where hoards of devotees pull massive wooden chariots using thick natural rope. A sight to behold indeed! The village has one of the longest beach and most beautiful beaches in the south of India. This attracts tourists from all over the world. A large number of people sun bathe and relax on the beach almost round the year. One can also watch the fishermen ply their trade and working with traditional fishing nets at dedicated sites. Long stretches of the beach are free of any kind of encumbrances thus making it an ideal destination for "beaching". Veerampattinam Beach: Each and every beach present in Pondicherry is amazing. It's a beautiful beach with a lot of free space to walk around and enjoy the waves without the crowd. It's got a lot of coconut trees on the way to the beach... A pier called 'The Sea Farer' is yet to be constructed fully... It looks good..

This beach is mostly occupied by fishermen's. Less crowded as compared to others and water is also clean comparatively. No shacks and shades available at the beach. Changing room and shower facilities are also not available.

Located away from the main road ..Google maps give proper directions to reach there via the small internal Roads. it's good experience to see the local village life, it's a fishing harbour kinda beach so lots of boats and fishermen around, cuz of this there is lot of fish and other sea life thrown on the beach so it's a shabby not many tourist around, good for a long walk along the shore.

Manakula Vinayaka Temple is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I visited in Pondicherry. The temple has a very positive vibe and you can really feel the divine energy as soon as you enter. The architecture is amazing with colorful carvings and detailed artwork on the walls and ceiling. It’s clean and well-maintained, and the priests are polite and helpful. The place gets a bit crowded, especially during morning and evening aarti, but the overall atmosphere is calm and spiritual. I really enjoyed spending some quiet time here. A beautiful, peaceful basilica with a striking red-and-white façade and tall Gothic arches. The stained-glass panels glow in the morning light, the nave is calm for prayer, and the grounds (grotto, statues, small garden) are tidy and welcoming. It’s an easy stop from White Town/railway side, and staff/volunteers keep things orderly during Mass. Must visit What could be better: Parking on the boulevard is limited and weekends can get crowded. Photography is usually restricted inside—especially during services—so plan your shots outside. Verdict: Come for quiet prayer and architecture; linger a few minutes just to soak in the stained glass and silence.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Puducherry is a magnificent Neo-Gothic architectural landmark, built between 1902 and 1907 by French missionaries. It is renowned for its Latin cross plan, 24 massive columns, and vibrant stained glass panels depicting the life of Christ and various saints. When we visited it was closed, but guard allowed us till the door for few minutes, Felt happy.

While the collection is nice, a touch of friendliness from the staff would make the experience even better. Overall, Sacred Heart Basilica is a calm and soulful place that beautifully blends history, spirituality, and charm. Whether you’re visiting for prayer, photography, or just a quiet moment, this spot is definitely worth adding to your Pondicherry itinerary.

Gothic architecture Church with colourful stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. The interior feels peaceful. It’s located near the railway station and easy to reach. The church is well-maintained.

It's a wonderful, quiet place. All are welcome. A unique marriage of Hindu tradition with Christian culture is seen in the installation of "Dhwaja Stambha" (Kodimaram in Tamil) in front of the church. The symbolic pole is seen largely in all Hindu temples in South India. Loved exploring the place.

Visited here with family while the Farm Fest 2025 and some botanical expo was happening. It was great experience during these weeks because a lot of visitors, school tour, exhibitions, pop-up shop sales happening. I'm not sure if this same environment exist on usual days. Good place if you are looking to just spend some time walking around, enjoying park and taking photos. But unless you are visiting during similar special days, there won't be much happening. Easy to reach from Railway station, Beach, Bus Stand etc. Specific cons : Even though we visited on an active day like the public restrooms were not functional even though it is new. Some where closed down. Some had no water. There is a lack of Park Layout Signs and Maps making navigation hard. Would have loved to see "You Are Here" layout maps here and there to make overall navigation. I have only visited this place one time.

I am writing this review to bring attention to an issue I observed during my recent visit. While exploring the aquarium section, I noticed that the scientific names of the fish species were incorrectly labeled as botanical names. (Scientific name is the umbrella term; zoological and botanical names are its branches for animals and plants respectively.) This misrepresentation not only causes confusion for visitors but also undermines the educational value of this place. I respectfully urge the concerned authorities to review and correct it.

What impressed me most was how well-maintained and green the entire space feels, despite being surrounded by busy roads outside. The moment you step through the gates, you are greeted by tall trees, flowering plants, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels almost like a natural sanctuary. The garden is spread out and has clearly marked pathways, making it easy to walk around without feeling crowded. I really liked the variety of trees and plant species here—some are rare and give you a sense of how diverse nature can be. There are also boards with names and details of plants, which makes the visit informative as well as relaxing. The small aquarium inside is quite simple but a nice add-on, especially if you are visiting with kids. The toy train and musical fountain were not fully functional when I visited, but they are attractions that would definitely make the garden even more lively. What makes this place special is that it is not just for tourists but also a spot where locals come for morning walks, photography, or simply to enjoy some quiet time. Entry fees are very nominal, and the garden is spacious enough to spend a couple of hours without feeling rushed.

Loved the greenery very much. I went on Monday morning, so less number of people. The garden looks beautiful. On weekends train ride, musical fountain like attractions are available. Green house, tree house etc are also there. Nice and beautiful place to hang out.

It has lost its charm and a lot of it seems old and not renovated yet. Although, it is extremely beautiful in general inside. The pond was just dirty water with dust on top, along with the train that goes around the garden not working at all. It's nice for a walk and some picturesque moments. One nice part of the place was the aquarium, it was well maintained and had a wide variety of fish.

The children's play area, is awesome. The toy train is a must try for kids as well as adults.. there are so many big trees in here and the lawn area is well maintained. The aquarium is average..A great place to spend time... Nominal entrance fee only.. restroom is not good..

The structure is grand, well-maintained, and filled with spiritual charm. The blue and white tones, tall façade, and prayerful silence make it a perfect place for reflection and devotion. The place has potential, but it needs better upkeep. While their collection is quite unique, most items seem to be displayed just for the sake of it, without any proper information or context. Some exhibits aren’t even clearly visible. It would be great if they handled things more professionally, especially considering some of the pieces are genuinely rare. Even a brief description for each item would add a lot of value. On the plus side, the entry fee is just ₹10. But note that photography and videography are not allowed inside the museum.

I especially loved the idols and sculptures from the Chola era, along with the French historical displays. There’s also an art gallery, which is worth a visit. The ambience inside is very good and peaceful. Entry is ₹10 for Indians and ₹50 for foreigners, and UPI payments are accepted. Parking, however, is quite difficult to find nearby. Overall, a good spot to explore history and art in Pondy.

A small, well maintained lovely Museum, must visit for those Visiting this lovely City. The cost of the ticket is only Rs.10 per head. Videography and Photography are totally prohibited inside the Museum and Art Gallery but allowed outside the Museum where you could find plenty of stone sculptures. I request the authorities to provide Power Back Up Facility for Museum as it poses great difficulties for the visitors and also a security threat. All the displayed artefacts are well organised. The Government should consider providing Air Conditioners for the Museum and increase the ticket fare accordingly.

Its a very old place or you can say its a ruin but fairly photogenic if want to have skme old movie kind of vibes. If you want to go here you need to book a ferry. After 10 minutes of boat ride you will reach the place. They say scenes of a south indian movie were shot in this place so recommended but for a short visit. Not a place to spend a whole day here . Food- nariyal pani and other ready to eat snacks were available Boat wale bhaiya told us that he will wait for 15-20 minutes only which means we got this much time only to spend here.

Arikmadu trust is historical site , it is a peaceful and historically rich archaeological site located a few kilometres from the main town of Pondicherry. I visited recently and found it to be an interesting glimpse into India’s ancient connection with the Roman world. The site, now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, is quiet and surrounded by greenery, making it feel like a hidden piece of history away from the city crowds. There isn’t much left standing except some brick structures and old foundations, but the information board explains its importance as an ancient Indo-Roman trade port known as Poduke. Reading about the excavations and discoveries—like Roman pottery, beads, and coins—makes the place come alive. It’s fascinating to imagine ships once docking here, carrying goods and ideas between continents. Although the site is small and not very commercialized, it holds great archaeological value. Visiting Arikamedu feels less like a tourist stop and more like stepping quietly into history. Anyone interested in ancient trade, archaeology, or heritage will appreciate it. A short visit of 30–45 minutes is enough, and it pairs well with exploring the nearby Ariyankuppam area or Auroville later in the day.

This beach has a great sunrise view, which is definitely worth checking out. The sky looks beautiful during sunrise, and it's a nice spot to relax. However, it's often crowded, which can be a bit overwhelming. The cleanliness of the beach has been a bit of an issue lately. Compared to Promenade Beach, it's not as clean. When I first visited, it wasn't that dirty, but now I've noticed a lot of litter and trash around with plastics and beer bottles. It's not a huge problem, but it destroys the mood and would be great if the beach was better maintained. There is ample space on the beach, making it a good option for watching the sunrise and capturing some stunning pictures. Just be aware that it can get crowded, so arrive early or visit during less busy times. A little ahead, you can also take a boat ride or speed boat ride to explore the mangroves forest, fishing harbour, and other scenic sites. Be mindful of the timings to make the most of your visit. To make the best of your trip, consider visiting early in the morning. The peaceful atmosphere and beautiful sunrise will make your experience more enjoyable. With some effort to maintain the beach's cleanliness, this spot could be even more breathtaking.

We had gone to Marina Beach around 9 a.m. Surprisingly, it was still peaceful at that time. There were very few people around which made the whole experience feel more personal, could take photos without any rush no one walking into the frame, no noise to distract. Just the sea and the space to enjoy it. After clicking a few pictures, we found a spot to just sit and watch the waves. They kept coming in slow, steady and almost meditative. No pressure to move, no distractions. It felt like time slowed down for a bit. That morning had a quietness to it not in a lonely way but in a calm, grounding way. We didn’t need to do anything special. Just being there, watching the sea, feeling the breeze it was enough.

The beach is absolutely filthy. There was trash everywhere. Absolutely disgusted. Photos below, don't waste your time on this beach. Total waste of time and as usual had to pay extortionate rates to the auto wallahs to travel 1.5 kms to this beach and back. Not worth it and will spoil your mood. You are better off at the Rock beach and promenade instead.

Serenity beach is beautiful and visited this place in the evening. You can find a lot of boats and fishing nets kept around. If you don’t like the smell of these fishes then you can avoid this side of the beach. One can find a lots of beautiful shells here. It’s definitely a worth visiting this place.

Visited Serenity Beach in the evening — the breeze and view were lovely, and it’s a nice place to sit on the rocks, relax, and watch the sea. However, it was quite crowded and not very clean. The beach has more of a local, fisherman vibe with lots of boats and activity. There’s a small area where you can play in the water, but overall it’s better for a quick visit than a long beach day.

Overall a nice boat ride. They are charging 500 per person. And show you 4 places in total. Out of which 3 are shown while sitting on the boat itself. For one they will ask you to get down, Arikamedu.

It is a good place. The mangrove forest is peaceful and beautiful to visit. But the water board entrance is not well maintained and not clean. The fish harbour is also not that great. They say the boat ride will cover 5-6 spots but we could only see 2–3 places. They also take you to the Bay of Bengal during the ride. Overall it was still a good experience.

I visited during july and the water is very less and it was smelling very bad, they get 500 per person and take you to 3 places where its just a brick wall, Its just a scam guys. They artificially made that as a tourist spot. also the point where sea and river meets. If you are expecting just a boating for an hour you can visit but if its just harbour and sea. Just save your money and visit someother place.

went with my friends and we ran into some police. They took two tins of something. It was good. Then when we went to eat, we saw a hotel but couldn't get anything. So we saw a marriage hall, went inside, ate and came back. The whole day was fun. The trip to the mangrove forest was a good experience that I will never forget. We went on August 15, 2025, and enjoyed a lot."

The whole facility is very neglected. Several floorboards are not screwed down, or some of them are broken or missing, several screws are sticking out. The toilet is the dirtiest I have seen in Thailand, there is no water, it is full of graffiti. We walked along the path, because the environment is very beautiful, but the neglect is sad, much more could be made of this.

They offer boating into the mangrove forest there, boating price was quite reasonable like ₹400 per person. First they take you to mangrove forest lake and then to an island and then into the Bay of Bengal. The ride to Mangrove forest lake is so smelly!! it feels as if you are into some kind of sewerage & there is so much garbage there! The rest 2 parts are fine, one can try!

Roughly 500 per person on weekends. One of the best experiences I had during my Pondy visit along with Family. They take one 15min stop in between which I felt unnecessary.

This is the best place in Pondicherry to watch the sunrise. It is also the fishermen’s spot so you’ll see many boats out in the sea and fishermen coming back to the shore to store their catch. Sometimes the smell can be unbearable but the sunrise scenes make it totally worth it. The ideal time to visit would be around 5:30-6 in the morning, from here you can go to Le Café to have your breakfast and then go on about your day.

Visited this place during Christmas, which is considered to be the peak time. The crowd was ok, can spend some good time around. This place has got some eateries and restaurant very adjacent to the beach. You can get freshly prepared sea food at a considerable pice. Booze too is avail but it’s restricted insided your hotel premises. No night activity at this place has very lil street lights. So prefer to be around 5am to 6 pm. Police patrol at nights are very common here.

The safest sandy beach in Pondi for swimming and spotting crabs, oysters. This is a small fisherman's beach about 6 km away from the main town so no crowds or touristy shops. Just sea, sand, sunsets, surfers and boats.
