Angkor Wat is an iconic and expansive temple complex surrounded by a wide moat, adorned with intricate carvings. Its sheer beauty can be overwhelming, making other Asian sites seem less remarkable in comparison. Visitors often recount the awe-inspiring experience of witnessing the sunset and sunrise at this magnificent site, where the play of light and shadow reflects on the water amidst pink water lilies.
I don’t know about you, but for me, a pilgrimage to the Angkor temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is a must. It has always been on my bucket list. I did my homework months ahead of my arrival. Wishing to visit the 12th Century religious temples and areas of Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon Temple. Yes, just a half day excursion, at the most important sites. So how was it? The English dictionary does not have words, to describe the inner spiritual levitation one experiences, when entering the ancient Khmer city of Angkor. Goose bumps, breathtaking awe and an awakening. There you are, smack in front of the iconic, Angkor Wat. Stop, be humble, pause, pray and take stock. You are now in the company of the past and brilliant, Hindu and Buddhist Cambodian Kings. They are immortal. You are mortal. The view, from all sides, is heart-stopping. There is rich culture and history, oozing out of this magnificent complex. You wonder, how did it come to be? Vast monuments of stone. How? The architecture and the dedication to detail is mind blowing. Especially when you realize that all this took place before machinery, tools and high tech construction. Elephants and humans did the heavy lifting. But it was extremely evident that those Architects were unmatched, superbly skilled, religiously dedicated and hauntingly incomparable. At Ta Prohm and at Bayon, the magic of the place continuously endured. You get hypnotized and can feel the presence of the infusion of both the Hindu and Buddhist religions that competed, in harmony, to construct one of the greatest religious sites in the world. In summary, this is a must see place, before you die. Life changing. Awesome. Spectacular. Unforgettable.

It is rare that world heritage sites live up to their billing but Angkor Wat is a success story in that regard in my book. At this point, it is probably unnecessary to detail the architectural and archeological importance of the site. But, may I suggest, there is something to be said for being an explorer, rather than going with a guide. Just open your eyes and wander in wonder through the maze-like ruins and porticos. Try to put yourself into the mind of an Angkorian. Put aside the detailed explanations and observations and just try to flow with the vibe of the place. I think that it is somehow more in tune with the spirit of the place to walk around in silent mystery. You can get the explanations and historical commentary from any number of excellent YouTube videos, before or even more powerfully, after your visit. Enter the temple with an open, detached mindset. Just my opinion, of course. Pro Tip Whatever your mindset, be aware that it rains frequently and heavily, from April to October so come with appropriate precautions (raincoats, umbrellas, etc.) or be prepared to be drenched as we were.

Visit on the equinox to see the most amazing sunrise in the world Visiting Angkor Wat Sunrise: Watching the sunrise over the temple's iconic five towers is a popular and magical experience for visitors. Exploration: Visitors can explore the temple's grounds and intricate wall art depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. UNESCO World Heritage Site: Angkor Wat is part of the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Beautiful and a must see! You can pay by card at the ticket counter in town for $37. We opted for the sunrise one but unfortunately it was too cloudy. Going in the morning is less crowded and less hot too.

It’s just incredible!! It’s like if you only get to one place in Cambodia make it be this! But I have to say I EQUALLY LOVED Ta Prohm Temple so go to that too, it’s not far away and has all the trees all over it. They are doing restoration which wasn’t at all in your face. But I loved the rustic ruin of ALL the temples.. that’s what’s so good about it all! Just amazing this amount of history.. from Buddhist to Hindu to Buddhist.. over all that time with different rulers. Amazing don’t miss this!

It's such a beautiful site ... must experience if you can do it. Very beautiful Vishnu temple, and very well maintained. You have to buy tkts in advance n buying tkt is also novel experience. At the counter they click your pic and within seconds you get your tks with your picture on it.. you can save it as a souvenir. To explore the whole temple one has to walk a lot so go prepared but in the end it's worth it.

Visited in the afternoon and ended up hiring a local guide which was worth it, he explained a lot and showed me where are the best spots to take photos. Pretty incredible place, and it was hot but I went around 2pm which apparently has fewer tourists than peak time. Ticket control wearing pink/ purple shirts will check your ticket.

This is a wonderful place to explore. If you have more then two days in Siem Reap I would suggest booking the two day ticket. I only had one full day and visiting 6 temples in humid weather was a lot. Also there are a lot of steps in entering the temples so please take that in consideration for another reason to split between two days.

Ta Prohm Temple, a stunning 12th-century Buddhist site, is a captivating blend of nature and history. Nestled within the lush jungle, this temple showcases the incredible power of nature as towering kapok trees and strangler figs weave their roots through ancient stone structures. While Angkor Wat exemplifies human architectural brilliance, Ta Prohm stands as a testament to the relentless embrace of the jungle over time.
Ta Prohm: Where Nature Reclaims Ancient Stone! As a local guide, Ta Prohm remains one of my absolute favorite temples to share with visitors. Unlike the perfectly restored Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm offers a truly unique and evocative experience, showcasing the raw power of nature intertwining with ancient Khmer architecture. What makes Ta Prohm so special are the colossal silk-cotton and strangler fig trees whose roots have embraced and, in some cases, consumed the temple's stone walls. It's a breathtaking sight that truly transports you back in time, making you feel like an explorer discovering a lost city. This "unrestored" charm, famously featured in the "Tomb Raider" movie, adds an undeniable sense of mystery and adventure. While navigating its crumbling corridors and narrow passages, you'll find countless opportunities for stunning photographs. I always point out the intricate carvings still visible amidst the encroaching foliage, reminding visitors of the incredible artistry that once flourished here. Be prepared for crowds, especially during peak season, but even then, Ta Prohm manages to retain its magical atmosphere. It's a place that speaks volumes about the passage of time and the enduring spirit of both human creation and natural forces. A visit here is not just seeing a temple; it's experiencing a living, breathing testament to history and nature's embrace. Highly recommended for those seeking a truly atmospheric and unforgettable Angkor experience!

Very cool to see the temple based in the Tomb Raider film. Hasn’t been restored to the same level as Angkor Wat but it has a cool rustic charm. Very cool to see how the trees have grown inside the walls. Probably a close second best behind Angkor Wat.

This was by far my favorite temple. The trees growing around the buildings helping to keep the old temples in position. This particular temple you may recognize from the Lara Croft movie

Simply wow. I found the rebuild of this temple amazing. They showed what it looked like before and after. The trees were also extraordinary, if you looked up high you could see some bees nests. This was my favourite temple out of the small and large temple tours. Don’t miss this one!!

It is amazing to visit something this old and significant. It has been here for a centuries and maybe millennium. It boggles the mind how these structures were built with so much detail. It is something that must be experienced. This is one of my favorite temples in the area. Well worth visiting.

Nature meets history in the most magical way! Ta Prohm is truly breathtaking. Ancient temple ruins wrapped in giant tree roots make it feel like a lost world. Peaceful, mysterious, and incredibly photogenic. A must-visit in Angkor!

Great ancient temple with interesting tree roots. Many parts of the temple are still not renovated giving visitors dramatic vibes of the name ancient ruin. They also call this temple Tomb Raider because Angelina Jolie shot the movie here.

Wat Preah Prom Rath is a serene Buddhist temple complex located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The grounds are adorned with colorful pagodas and beautiful gardens, providing a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to explore. While many tourists flock to the famous Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm temples, Wat Preah Prom Rath offers a tranquil alternative within the city.
Loved the walk, loved to witness young children and family work on the renovation of some walls but couldn't help myself to try to give a hand which they gently refused with their own way. Huge complex with a lot of things to go through and the wat where there is a sleeping buddha is beautiful.

We had a good time visiting this temple, the “murals” (I don’t think that’s the most correct word to use) had striking colours and were very detailed. The story behind the lying Buddha was also very interesting. One of my memorable place in SR, as this is where we met Mr. Sakhorn - a lovely man and Tuktuk driver, who took us around and out the city, including the “Grand tour” of Angkor Wat. I highly recommend him if you want to explore the city and wider SR area.
Ruther O — Google review
Nice Pagoda to visit if you can do a quick visit. There are interesting statues, carvings, and history boards. You can also go inside a few of the rooms where the monks pray and have a quiet reflection. There are places to leave monetary donations. The only bad part of the visit was all the tuktuk drivers that are there walking around. I was obviously saying a prayer and one of them came up to me asking if I needed a ride. I had to say no 5 times before he would go away. I also got asked by 4 other drivers if I needed a ride.

Beautiful area with temples and monastery in Siem Reap with free entrance. This is one of the many pagodas in the city, and perhaps also one of the oldest; the plot was offered to King Ang Chan in the mid of the 16th century by the wealthy family of Ta Pum and Yeay Roath, to build a monastery there. In Cambodia, the pagoda is always attached to one or more villages. It plays a strong social role within the community, serving as a gathering place; it also plays an educational and moral role. This is why the composition of their plan is rich in varied constructions. The number of constructions on the plot increased significantly in the 1940s. Today, we find a school dating from 1952 in the North, the monks' homes in the West, and the Hall of Merits near the sanctuary. The sanctuary or Preah Vihear, rebuilt in 1945, consists of a central nave (thnem) resting on two rows of columns, surrounded by a side aisle (robieng) and a revolving covered gallery (binsach), used during processions. On the wall, murals illustrate the life of Buddha. Finally, at the back of the nave, there is a wooden sculpture representing the reclining Buddha. The main Buddha sitting on the lotus base is named Preah Ang Chee Buddha. Built in the Bayon period with sandstone from the Angkor area and kept in the ordination hall (Uposatha Hall). The reclining Buddha in the ordination hall (behind the main Buddha) is known as Preah Ang Chang-han Hoy, a revered monk living in 1358-1456 A.D. (B.E. 1900-2000). The king Ang Chan claimed to have built both the statue making of wooden boat and the monastery in late 15th and early 16th century A.D. to honor to Preah Ang Chang-han Hoy and to dedicate to the spirits of the rich family of Ta Pum Yeay Rath who offered its land for establishment the monastery.

Phnom Bakheng, a Hindu and Buddhist temple built between 889-910 CE, is a popular spot for sunset viewers due to its pyramid-style ruins. Perched on a hilltop, it offers panoramic views of neighboring temples and the lush jungle. Unlike most other temples in the area, Phnom Bakheng remains open until 7 pm, making it an ideal choice for catching the sunset.
I climbed this hill to watch the sunset over Angkor Wat. The trail starts just outside the South Gate, and it takes about 20 minutes to reach the top. At the summit stands the pyramid-shaped temple of Phnom Bakheng, and from the upper level you can see the horizon. Although sunset was around 6 p.m., many tourists began reserving good spots after 5 p.m., so it’s necessary to go up early to secure the best view. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see the sunset, but the panoramic view from the top was spectacular and I was very satisfied.
HiDe86 — Google review
Sunrise photos and sunset photos. A long walk before you get to the top, but i think it is worth it because everybody has pictures of sunrise at Angkor Wat. The extra effort is worth it, plus Siem Reap with no traffic on the streets, and it is always a nice, cool ride out to the temple. Be sure to take coffee, water and a good flashlight. Be sure to leave enough time so you get a good spot, whether you're going for sunrise or sunset. It takes a lot longer than you might think to get to the top. It also is a must to bring something soft to sit on, the rubber thing that has a handle at one end, which is used by gardeners to kneel on is ideal, but haven't a clue where to get one, maybe Macro?
Greg O — Google review
The place to be for sunset. Gets busy quickly around sunset time. Also a nice walk up the mountain with a few viewpoints on the way. You can also See Angkor Wat in the distance. Unfortunately for us it was too cloudy for a good sunset.

This ancient situates on top of Phnom Bakheng summit which is one of the most popular spot to watch the sunset in Siem Reap province. Recommend to arrive early as it can be crowded.
Samnang N — Google review
So beautiful road on the way to this temple! Like a small forest with so clean air. There are several viewpoints with benches there to sit, drink your still water and enjoy. Many trash containers there to avoid and trash on the ground. From one viewpoint you can see the Angkor wat. Dedicated to Shiva, it was built at the end of the 9th century, during the reign of King Yasovarman (889–910). Phnom Bakheng is one of 3 hilltop temples in the Angkor region that are attributed to Yasovarman's reign. There is a big construction there for renovations to protect the central temple from further deterioration through stabilization, waterproofing, repair, and partial reconstruction.

Srah Srang is a 10th-century reservoir in Siem Reap, Cambodia, known for its enchanting and serene setting. The reservoir features a cross-shaped landing stage made of laterite, offering stunning sunrise and sunset views. It has been partially flooded since the reign of King Rajendravarman II and is guarded by two lion statues. This historic site was once used as a bathing pool for royals and remains filled with water today.
The best place for a sunset view in Siem Reap! The photos are made on iPhone 11 within 15 minutes, no colour grading at all. It looks much better irl. To see the breathtaking sunset go to the east end of the lake.

Be sure you check out both sides of this Temple. One side is on the lake, and even though we did not see the sunrise there, we plan to go back for it. On the other side, it is very Serene with what seems to be an endless series of archways and Halls!

🌅💛 Srah Srang – The Royal Bath That Stole My Heart at Sunset 🛶✨ If you're chasing that golden-hour magic in Siem Reap, Srah Srang is the spot to be. Often overshadowed by the grand temples nearby, this peaceful reservoir—also known as the "Royal Bath"—was originally dug in the 10th century by King Rajendravarman II, and later remodeled in the 12th century as a spiritual bathing site for the Angkor elite. But fast forward to now? It’s a gem for serenity seekers and sunset lovers alike. 🧘‍♀️🌞 As the sun begins to dip, the water glistens like gold, casting soft reflections of the trees and sky—it’s the kind of view that quietly stuns you. I had the privilege of experiencing that moment with someone I love, and it made the beauty of Srah Srang even more unforgettable. 💬 Whether you're up for a chill stroll, a moment of meditation, or just soaking up the views with friends, Srah Srang offers a tranquil escape from the temple crowds. You’ll often find a few locals hanging around, maybe even sharing a quiet picnic as the day winds down. 💡 Pro tip: Head there around 5:00 PM, bring a drink or snack, sit by the ledge, and just be. It’s one of those places where time slows down—and your heart, somehow, feels full.
Bea B — Google review
Srah Srang Built in the 10th century, possibly during the reign of King Rajendravarman II, and renovated in the 12th or 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. It functioned as a baray, a traditional Khmer reservoir used for storing water for irrigation, domestic use, and regulating the water flow in the surrounding area. While not completely dry, the water level fluctuates throughout the year. During the dry season, remnants of a possible temple platform can be seen peeking out from the water. The most prominent feature is the grand, laterite landing stage (platform) located opposite the entrance to Banteay Kdei temple. It's known for being a peaceful and less crowded alternative to sunrise viewing points like Angkor Wat. The reflection of the sunrise or sunset on the water creates a beautiful scene.
Socheatey H — Google review
The fourth and final recommended place to visit especially for photos within the Angkor complex would be Srah Srang. Although technically not a temple, this reservoir will give you the most amazing sunset photos. You will see the colours change magically within minutes of sunset.
Riley L — Google review
Srah Srang is a must-visit spot for cycling teams looking for a picturesque coffee break during their morning rides. The breathtaking sunrise views and serene surroundings make it the perfect place to relax and recharge. The local villages surrounding the lake add to the charm, providing a unique cultural experience. With restaurants and a pool available, it's a great place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a stunning morning sunrise. Optional keywords: cycling, coffee break, sunrise views, local culture, serene surroundings.
Steven P — Google review
One of the best place to visit in Angkor archaeological park. King’s pond. The authorities done a great job of revitalize this pond, as just 2-3 years early, it was completely dried up. Glad to see it comes back to its glory self.
Monytep — Google review
Srah Srang is a 700 metre by 350 metre reservoir that you will find directly east of the Banteay Kdei temple complex in the Angkor Archeology Park. The lake was dug in the mid-10th century. In the 12th-century, a western landing platform was constructed. From the western entrance to Banteay Kdei, you can make a quick 1 minute walk to the western platform, where you can view the expanse of Srah Srang. In addition to the lake the platform has good naga balustrades and guardian lions sculptures. You can conveniently see Srah Srang after your visit to Banteay Kdei and then continue onward with your other intended temple visits.

Absolutely amazing experience. The rooms were clean and big. The breakfast with many options and fantastic location. Fantastic SPA at reasonable prices. Special thanks to the staff and particularly to David for making our stay extra special by giving us the best local-dining tips in town. Hopefully one day we’ll come back! 10/10 experience, a true 5* hotel.

A bit disappointed with my stay at Lotus Blanc Resort. There was not enough, barely accommodating 10 cars inside the premises — guests are asked to park outside on the national road, which feels unsafe and inconvenient. The security guard was rude and unhelpful, showing no sense of responsibility toward guests. The room itself was decent and clean, but the amenities are quite old and need upgrading. The walls are thin, and I could clearly hear staff walking by and carrying luggage early in the morning (around 8–9 AM), which made it hard to rest. Overall, not the experience I expected from a resort of this level. The management should seriously improve guest service, parking, and sound insulation.

Templation is a luxurious boutique resort located just three kilometers from Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. The hotel features 33 suites and villas, each offering uncluttered space and aesthetic gratification. The centerpiece of the resort is its colossal swimming pool, which spans 700 square meters and holds one thousand cubic meters of water, making it one of the largest in the area.
What can I say. This is a real gem, hidden away in Siem Reap. It’s a fantastic little hotel, really beautifully done with lovely rooms. We had a twin room, which has a lovely pool for after a day walking round the ruins. Breakfast and other food was amazing. Really high quality and a good selection. Unlike most hotels, its mainly off a menu rather than a buffet, which makes sense for a small boutique hotel. Beds were really comfortable and the rooms were ideal for chilling. It was also excellent value for money. The staff were fantastic, really helpful and attentive. It was also easy to get anywhere from here and its really close to Angkor Wat itself. Its ideally located for most things. I would definitely recommend staying here if you go to see Angkor Wat and the surrounding area.

We had a lovely stay in one of the Jungaloo's! The small private pool was very nice, as was the bed and pillows (so soft!). The gentle sounds of nature and monks was audible through the walls but was quite pleasant to hear. The food was amazing! Room service impeccable, though a little bit confusing what to do with the food when you're done. They brought us small treats every evening for New Year. Highly recommend the Marscapone Caramel Taro Mousse (we tried three and this was by far our favorite!). The bunnies and cats roaming the property are very cute and unobtrusive, I wish they wanted more pets though hahaha. The spa stayed open 30 minutes later to accommodate our appointments. Honestly an amazing place such great service and delicious food and comfortable accommodations. PLUS ITS BEAUTIFUL!

Really wonderful, small hotel with great room options and food. We stayed in a jungaloo which was clean and beautifully decorated. The food for dinner and breakfast was great. Staff were 10/10: kind, attentive and friendly.

Lovely resort hotel surrounded with trees and flowers. There is nature everywhere. They even have bunnies roaming around the property. The vilas are beautiful with own private pool. Comfortable beds and even a nespresso machine. The service and staff are excellent. They even fixed the faulty jacuzzi promptly. Breakfast isn't buffet style but unlimited. They have a fair amount of vegetarian options.

Best Hotel, Ever!!!!! We spent 8 nights at Templation Hotel, and the entire stay was just magical. The hotel is really quiet and laid back, with charming, super helpful staff that are very considerate and kind in every way. Our villa had 2 rooms and our own private swimming pool. Each room had its own outdoor bathroom, which was so refreshing! I loved taking shower outside. We ate at many restaurants in Siem Reap including high-end places, but I actually liked the hotel restaurant the best. It was reasonably priced and all the dishes were very well presented. I loved seeing bunnies and gini pigs in the garden. We sometimes had cute visitors in our villa! This hotel really is my favorite. I can’t wait to go back!
Chihiro I — Google review
I really like this place but the bathrooms is out doors so there's a lot of insect. Service is great and the food it's very good and you should really get the chicken and rice or the fried noodles it's also very good. The location of this vila is very relaxing it's next to Ankor Wat and a lot of nature but when you are sleeping the frog will start to cry and it's very loud so get a few ear buds.

This resort has a very nice pool and gardens with a lot cute rabbits around. Food is also a highlight. They offer a la cart breakfast menu with delicious food, and they also can serve BF for pool photoshoot without any surge charge. 😆 Staffs are very friendly and have good customer service mindset. I really like my stay here. It’s very calm and relaxed. Highly recommended for family or couple holidays.

We absolutely loved our three-night stay at Templation in Siem Reap. We had a one-bedroom villa with a private pool, and it felt like our own little sanctuary : peaceful, spacious, and beautifully designed. One of the highlights was having breakfast delivered directly to our villa, as well as the afternoon tea set in the comfort of our own space. We had sunlight almost all day in the villa, which made lounging by the pool even more enjoyable. The bed was extremely comfortable, and every detail of the decor was thoughtfully chosen, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere throughout our stay. The service was excellent: friendly, polite, and always ready to help with a smile. Overall, it was an amazing experience and we’d definitely come back. Highly recommended!

The hotel's French colonial-era design features high ceilings, louvre shutters, and wrought-iron balconies in the Psar Chaa area.
We had a great one night stay at this hotel Staff were amazing Good size gym Large room Spotlessly clean Lovely pool Great breakfast. Good choice of Cambodian and western dishes. Also an egg station Location central but quiet Would recommend. The one negative for us was that the pool doesn’t receive the afternoon sun due to the height of the buildings surrounding it.

Loved this hotel, mainly for the hospitality of the staff, they always greeted you with a smile, I came back from my trip to the temples and it was raining heavy and they came out with an umbrella to me as I was in the tuk tuk, cold towel on arrival and a drink. Always greeted me with a happy face! Breakfast was OK, location was great, right near pub street but far enough away that not hectic. Solo woman traveller but felt completely safe, the rooms were big and bed was comfortable and had everything i needed. Decor a bit dated but it fitted in with the charm of the place, overall an amazing hotel 😊

Cooking class
Restaurant
The Siem Reap Countryside Cooking Class offers a unique opportunity to learn the art of Khmer cooking from a local chef in a small village on the outskirts of Siem Reap. The four-hour class includes a visit to the market to select fresh ingredients before heading to the kitchen. Participants can choose between morning and afternoon sessions, during which they will learn to prepare traditional dishes such as chicken amok, banana blossom salad, and pumpkin custard.
This is a wonderful little cookery school. The owner puts all of the profits towards helping local disadvantaged and orphaned children. We not only learned about Cambodian cooking, but also about Cambodian history and culture. Ben is an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. He kept the class running even though the other guests dropped out and it was just my wife and I. The location in the countryside just took around 30 minutes to get to by tuk tuk and was so much nicer than simply staying in the city. It was a wonderful experience.
Adam B — Google review
This is a wholesome and enjoyable experience. Adrian was a fantastic guide for the day. The team are friendly and helpful from pickup through the market visit (an authentic local market with no tourists) and support for cooking. And the menu is soooo good. 50% of the fees go to the orphanage, a wonderful way to give back while enjoying your holiday.
Matt M — Google review
Where do we start. Mr Ben you’re an absolute wonderful human being. This cooking class is not only amazing but helps fund orphaned and disadvantaged children. Offering them hope, education and a safe place. Mr Ben is passionate about his cooking as he is about saving these children. If you’re looking for an authentic experience that goes even further than just learning about local cuisine. This is it. Hands down one of the best experiences ever. Highly highly recommend.
Jason O — Google review
This was an incredibly special experience. We started with a trip to the local markets to see all of the amazing fresh produce and learn about the food we would cook. When we got to the venue there was a traditional Cambodian wedding taking place and we were invited to meet the bride and groom and their families. They were very generous and welcoming and the wedding was beautiful. We then spent the morning cooking some Traditional Wood fired changkran stove. Our teacher Tuy was very knowledgeable, kind, helpful and patient with us. For the level of the experience, I would expect to pay 3x what this cost in Australia. Don't hesitate to book.
Ilona B — Google review
My wife and I did the cooking class with the morning market visit. T was our guide for the day. He picked us up promptly at 7:30 AM with a tuk tuk driver to head to the morning market. He provided cold waters and taught us about Cambodian history and explained a lot of the sights to see on the way out of town towards the morning market. Once we got to the morning market T walked us around and showed us all of the ingredients the Cambodian people use to prepare their traditional foods. We also tried cricket, beetle, meal worms, and lotus flower seeds. All of them were great! After the market we headed back to the cooking class. T had us prepare the pumpkin dessert to start things off because that required the most time to cook and it would be ready by the time we’d be done with the rolls and amok. The dipping sauce with the chili peppers were great! Next we made Chicken Amok which was my favorite. We hand ground the Amok paste which was more difficult than I had imagined but well worth the hard work. Folding the banana leaf bowl was fun too! T showed us around the property while we waited for the Amok and pumpkin dessert to finish. We got to meet a couple of the cows and one of the kittens named “Chicken”. T also took time to explain Ben, the owner, story which was fascinating. All of the work that Ben has done for the Cambodian people is heart warming and honorable. Such a cool story that a young boy trying to run into the Tomb Raider film crew to practice his english has spawned an organization that touched so many lives is truly amazing. After the food was done we ate the results of our own work which was fantastic. This was both my wife and I first time having Amok and we both loved it. The pumpkin dessert was a nice way to finish the meal as well. T was very hands on and was a great teacher. He is certainly a very skilled chef. He spoke great English and taught us a few words in Cambodian as well. They emailed us the recipes so we can try at home and said to reach out if there’s anything we can’t find and need to substitute which was nice. Overall a great experience and I recommend choosing Countryside Cooking Class because not only is it a great experience it supports a great cause. Thanks again we loved it!!

After some research this was a no brainer. One of best experiences in Siem reap. You are collected from you're hotel and taken thru one of the local markets. This was nearly an hour and Ben was full of local knowledge, well worth the time. Onto their residence and you are shown how to prepare 3 courses of traditional Khmer food. Ben had excellent presentation and demonstration and I could not recommend more highly, there was no pressure at any time. Usually the maximum people is 6 to 8, but coming into low season mid April we we fortunate enough for private lesson. As Ben is also professional guide you may catch him around the temples as a private guide, his English is excellent and you would not be disappointed. Lastly as profits help support the orphans at the residence this was a great choice to make Thankyou Ben
Nevan J — Google review
A great introduction to Cambodian food ingredients and cooking local dishes. Ben, a qualified Khmer Chef, gave us a great overview of his local food market, able to share (in fluent English) information about various fruits vegetables and other ingredients. We then headed back to the cooking school site, and were guided through 3 dishes...banana flows chicken salad, coconut milk custard steamed in pumpkin, and traditional chicken amok. A great hands on day. All of this to support local kids in need, it is a worthwhile morning or afternoon out
David M — Google review
Ben’s countryside cooking class is not only an excellent and authentic cooking class - it is also an important social project. After Ben and his driver picked us up at our hotel, we set course for a local market half an hour from Siem Reap. Ben took us around the stalls, explaining what is what, how it’s all used and what it tastes like. We were the only tourists around there and the people were very friendly. Then we arrived at the cooking school, which is also the site of Ben’s social project: he cares for 15 orphans and helps 68 children get proper education. It’s amazing work and it is overly clear how invested Ben is in this. He invited two of the girls to come practise their English with us. They were absolutely charming, and very motivated to learn. We learned to make banana blossom salad, vegetarian (on my request) amok and a dessert with fresh coconut milk and eggs in a pumpkin. Everything was delicious and Ben answered all of our questions. Ben then dropped us off at our hotel, and we talked some more about his project. It’s a touching story. We’re so happy to have been able to contribute a little - and to have learned more about Khmer cuisine and culture. This is an experience we’ll never forget. We definitely recommend it. Thanks again, Ben! Joos and Emma

Maison Polanka is a charming boutique hotel in Siem Reap, offering a tranquil and upscale retreat for couples or friends seeking a luxurious getaway. Nestled amidst lush jungle surroundings, this refined hotel is conveniently located near the city center, the old French Quarter area, and the stunning ruins of Angkor Wat. Originally commissioned by a French Cambodian couple in 1998, Maison Polanka offers exclusive accommodations with just seven rooms, a cottage, and a four-bedroom villa.
This is a wonderful, peaceful tropical haven in the middle of Siem Reap. Our family of 4 stayed four nights in July. The gardens and buildings are just beautiful and the staff couldn't be friendlier. They are able to arrange and book pretty much any activity, which makes life easy. The food is delicious and the breakfasts are copious for hungry teenagers! I wish they had a muesli option though. I can't recommend highly enough.

We had an amazing one week stay at Maison Polanka. We were a group of 8 so we booked The Maison. Each room in The Maison was uniquely and beautifully decorated and we all loved it. The terraces for each room also gave us a nice outdoor space for some quiet time. We all absolutely loved the grounds of the property. It was so lush and green and beautiful. The pool was also a great size to swim and hang out at. The food at breakfast was excellent with great local and western options and their freshly baked breads were so delicious. We also loved the restaurant food they serve at lunch/dinner. Every dish was delicious and the chef is absolutely adorable. We loved all the staff who really made this stay very special for us. They were amazing from the moment we booked, helping us with a lot of pre-arrival planning and bookings. And from the moment we arrived till we left, the staff were so friendly, fun and warm and took such good care of us. They made us feel so at home, we really didn’t want to leave. Maison Polanka is a very special place and I couldn’t recommend this more!

I and my wife recently had the pleasure of staying at Maison Polanka in Siem Reap, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a tranquil ambiance that set the tone for a perfect stay. **Location:** Maison Polanka is ideally situated just a short drive from the bustling center of Siem Reap and the iconic Angkor Wat temples. The property is nestled within lush greenery, offering a serene escape from the busy city while still being conveniently close to all the major attractions. **Accommodation:** The accommodations at Maison Polanka are nothing short of luxurious. I stayed in one of their beautifully designed villas, which seamlessly blended traditional Cambodian architecture with modern comforts. The room was spacious, impeccably clean, and equipped with all the amenities one could ask for, including a comfortable bed, a well-appointed bathroom, and a private terrace overlooking the garden and pool. **Service:** The service at Maison Polanka is truly outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect, providing personalized attention and genuine care. **Overall Experience:** Maison Polanka is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that combines luxury, comfort, and authentic Cambodian charm. Whether you’re visiting Siem Reap to explore the ancient temples or simply to relax and rejuvenate, Maison Polanka provides the perfect setting. I highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone seeking an unforgettable stay in Siem Reap. In conclusion, Maison Polanka truly offers an oasis of tranquility and exceptional hospitality. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and eager to return. Five stars all around! See you next time Maison Polanka!

Our experience of Maison Polanka was of such warm and homely hospitality right from the owner to all the staff of the place. We had a wonderful stay and it was just the break we needed. We really enjoyed the scrumptious food, the beautiful Al fresco dine setting and the pool. The owner was also kind enough to give many recommendations which came in really handy while planning the trip. It is a perfect quiet retreat getaway that one would need after the long tours of the temples. It has only a few rooms and so offers a kind of exclusivity.

Maison Polanka is a truly magical place. Set back from the busy streets of Siem Reap, a path winds through a tranquil garden to your accommodation. We were lucky enough to stay in the Garden Lodge, which was wonderful. Everybody there was lovely, and we had such a lovely time. The food was excellent, and they were very flexible with timings (we were getting up early, and coming back at odd times, and it was really good to know breakfast would be waiting for us!) If you have a chance to stay here, take it. You won't regret it.

We were very well taken care of on our quick trip to Siem Reap. Everyone was friendly, warm, and sweet. We loved the area, it's very special, and Maison Polanka made the whole experience perfect. The property is close to everything, but wonderfully nestled as it's own private haven. It is close to a temple, so you will occasionally hear some nice chanting and other spiritual sounds closeby. The room was spacious and nicely presented. We had spa treatments onsite and they were excellent. The food, drinks, and tea were also great. Really nice refreshing pool that will cool you down instantly. There is no question that we will be back to Maison Polanka next time we visit Siem Reap. Thank you again for your hospitality.

Hidden away from the bustling streets is this quiet secluded slice of paradise. The grounds are well manicured and the buildings are in great shape. The staff are some of the nicest and most polite I've had the pleasure of meeting. They are very attentive and accommodating. Each day when I returned from an excursion, I was greeted with a cold scented towel to freshen up. The food is also top notch. Each meal is cooked to order and tastes exceptional. My stay was a short three nights but I intend to stay longer next time in a future visit.

Stayed in a jungaloo. Really great room with a plunge pool. My appreciation of the design, atmosphere, very nice location with the private pool. I went to a restaurant for BF (like a buffet, no limit order), the setting places are great with tables along the big pool. Very nice service & friendly staff. Highly recommend!!! Incredible, amazing, beautiful place to stay in SR. I will definitely come back if I have another chance! Thank you so much.

“Can I live here forever please?” Is the first thing I said when we arrived. Honestly these Jungloos are incredible, you can tell they’ve really been built and designed with the climate in mind because inside it’s so airy and fresh. Waking up here at Jungloo is very special, here’s why: Breakfast is delivered directly to your private pool. We had fruit platters, vegetable rice and fresh juice which delivered in a beautiful basket with a lid keeping it safe from flies. This hotel is by far the most vegan friendly hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The vegan burger is incredible. Everything about it was perfect. The room is has tea and coffee making facilities, a mini fridge, a safety box, insect repellent and all of the toiletries you’ll need. I was so impressed by the attention to detail. The private pool was simply perfect as was the Templation pool (oh yeah you get full access to the Templation facilities) AMAZING! It’s also located conveniently close to Angkor Wat and it’s surrounding temples.
