Great St Mary's is a 15th-century church located in Cambridge, offering stunning panoramic views of the city's renowned colleges from its tower. The church faces Kings College and features attractive shops on Kings Parade. Notable attractions include 18th-century galleries and a tall bell tower that provides superb panoramic views of the city center. King Henry VII contributed to the rebuilding of the church by donating oak beams for its roof.
Nice church where you can climb to the bell tower, about 120 steps so 3-5m. The church is free but the climb is about 7 quid.

The Church of St Mary the Great, often called Great St Mary’s, is one of the most important and historic churches in Cambridge. It stands right in the heart of the city, next to the marketplace and opposite the Senate House of the University of Cambridge. The church dates back to the 15th century in its current form, though there was a parish church on the site much earlier. It has long been tied to the University of Cambridge, serving as the official university church. For centuries, major university ceremonies and sermons were held here, making it central to academic life. Architecturally, it is a beautiful example of late Gothic style, with a tall tower that dominates the city center. Visitors can climb the tower, which offers one of the best panoramic views of Cambridge—the colleges, the market square, and even the countryside beyond. Inside, you’ll find elegant wooden galleries, a fine organ, and striking stained-glass windows.
Yarys — Google review
One of the highlights building in Cambridge. It's very impressive construction, but the tower stands out. You have to climb the one hundred twenty seven steps to admire the vest overview of the city. The only 'but' could be that you have to pay almost nine euros to do it.
Manuel — Google review
Beautiful Anglican Cathedral This is an iconic Church in the hypercentre of Cambridge. It sits right in front of Cambridge market and next to some of the top colleges. The building is beautiful and is historical dating back a few centuries. To be noted this is a great place also to climb up the stairs to get a view of Cambridge town centre. You can buy tickets in advance but you can also get them here too.
Paul V — Google review
Reasonable sized church in the middle of Cambridge, which is free to enter, however to go up the bell tower it is £7.50. Outside the church is the very touristy area of Cambridge, so stepping inside for some peace and tranquility is much appreciated. Lovely stained glass windows and high ceilings make the church fairly impressive, although it doesn't take too long to see everything.
Atlas — Google review
Was walking passed and saw a sign to climb up the tower, so I was sold. 123 steps gets you to the top where you get amazing views from one of the tallest buildings in Cambridge.
Stephen M — Google review
Beautiful views. Prepare for a bit of cardio on your way up and down! Well maintained and peaceful once at the top. Maybe bring a jumper as it can get chilly!

Nestled at the bustling crossroads of Hills Road and Lensfield Road in Cambridge, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the English Martyrs is a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture. Completed in 1890, this magnificent Roman Catholic church boasts a striking 65-meter spire that can be seen from various points across the city. The building features exquisite stained-glass windows and historic elements that reflect its rich heritage.
Yesterday (Tuesday) I attended the 12:15 mass where we prayed for Pope Francis; may God bless his soul. I sat amongst a beautiful kaleidoscope of ages and colors as I listened to the holy word of the Lord. I was encouraged by the number of young men there. Praise God! What a worthy and uplifting way to dedicate some time in the weekday. Thank you to the Catholic Church for having so many mass times dotting the globe. It’s like a plethora of stars visible on a clear night from a cozy country home. For a full time traveler like me, each mass, each Eucharist, is like a crisp and clean new breath of air filling my lungs after choking in a smog filled city where the air is putrid. May God bless the church leaders and all upholding the house of the Lord. May God bless us - one and all. Love, A friend of Jesus ❤️

A super beautiful church, nice old medieval lots of historical history. I took some time to sit down and pray, and just taking all the beauty. There wasn’t really anyone running the place that I saw at the time when I went it was pretty empty, but you can leave donations at the door, but there’s not really anyone to ask questions but overall the place was beautiful and I had a wonderful experience being there

Beautiful church and it has mass in Polish. I parked on the street paid meter without realizing that the church has a small parking for those attending mass.

A beautiful church! Smells wonderful inside and has an eclectic roof of wood and stone, which is something I don’t often see. Have a peaceful wonder or a little sit to get away from the main road. Would be nice if there was a little shop inside selling some of the incense or little trinkets.

A very serene and peaceful place of worship this church has indeed the ambience of a peaceful place. It’s been very well looked after and has very clean interior. The information displays are clearly shown and one would like to spend more time in this holy place once inside. The exterior could do with a good clean up to remove all the black soot due to weathering over the decades. For this the campaign has started to collect donations but it’s a long way away from the target.
Mas H — Google review
This is probably the most beautiful buildings in the area and being a catholic church, I was very happy that it was open during the day. You can freely enter the building, take pictures, admire the view or pray, without any issues. It is very interesting how, despite that it’s on a very busy junction, when you enter the building it’s like you enter a different realm, everything changes – the sound, the light And what I particularly like about churches, the air! You can probably get a good idea of the look of the place from the pictures and videos online but that has nothing to do with being there. I highly recommend. Unfortunately, there is no car park around the park for free, but if you are planning a visit to Cambridge, I believe it’s worth it to park at the nearest paid car park which is Queen Anne Terrace car Park.

St Bene’t’s Church, also known as St. Benedicts Church, is a historic gem located in the heart of Cambridge on Benet Street. Dating back to at least 1050 AD, it is considered the oldest building in the city and boasts an iconic Anglo-Saxon square tower. While much of the church was remodeled during the Victorian era, it still retains its original beauty inside.
St Bene't's Church is a Church of England parish church in central Cambridge, England. Parts of the church, most notably the tower, are Anglo-Saxon, and it is the oldest church in Cambridgeshire as well as the oldest building in Cambridge. This small church in an area dominated by very large churches is easy to overlook, but it's worth a 30-minute stop to experience the oldest building in Cambridge and read about its extraordinary and varied history.

King's College Chapel is a stunning example of late Gothic architecture located in the heart of Cambridge. This 16th-century chapel boasts an impressive fan-vaulted ceiling, intricate wood carvings, and original stained-glass windows. It took nearly a century to complete this monumental structure, which was founded by Henry VI and later finished by five English monarchs. The chapel's history includes being spared during the English Civil War due to Oliver Cromwell's nostalgia for his college days.
King’s College Chapel is a breathtaking masterpiece of Gothic architecture and one of the most iconic landmarks in Cambridge. With its soaring fan-vaulted ceiling—the largest of its kind in the world—and stunning stained-glass windows, the chapel creates an atmosphere of awe and reverence. Visitors are often struck by the serene beauty and historical richness of the space. Commissioned by King Henry VI in the 15th century, the chapel has witnessed centuries of history and royal influence. Its grand organ and regular choral services, especially those by the King’s College Choir, add a deeply moving auditory experience to the visit. Whether you’re drawn by the architecture, the music, or the legacy, King’s College Chapel is a must-see for anyone exploring Cambridge.

Beautiful Cathedral King’s College Chapel is an amazing architectural building of Gothic Art. Probably one of the most iconic landmarks in this city. We highly recommend the visit. It is very unique, but tremendously stunning!

Words are wasted here - one of the finest monuments to Perpendicular architecture anywhere. Go in, have your breath taken away, admire the paintings, and try and keep your heart in your chest. The fan vaulting is like no other. Pick a sunny, still day, and approach the college from the Backs, the classic side - you avoid the tourists, feel more like a student 😉 And when you are done, take some time sitting on the Backs, and appreciate that Rupert Brooke and others used to punt to here from Grantchester for their lectures. I'm guessing (hoping?) in straw boaters
Gordon D — Google review
Indeed a very very special place. We were lucky that a former student has shown us this area. With all the details and historical parts of the Kings college chapel. All these details are so special that you need to take the time to observe all the details of this chapel. The colors, the building architecture in relation with the stories is amazing. You can easily enter this chapel via the main entrance of the Kings College. Please do vist the total area which is amazing and combine this visit with the other College areas in Caimbridge.
Jeroen G — Google review
There is a reason this is a must stop. The ceiling alone was worth the price of admission. The stain glass work was very human. It needs renovation. They seemed to admire the "modern man" in several panels which caught my attention. Yes, all the tourists stop here. . .for a reason.
Jeffrey S — Google review
Very beautiful place, nice place, i havent been punting but I would like to try👍. Lots of shops and places to eat near. Students who study here should be gratful for such a beautiful college✌️

Can only visit the chapel by attending a service. We went to Evensong - a truly uplifting place. It made me feel very humbled. The choristers were serene.
Andrea P — Google review
Visited for organ recital and evensong which is a good way to visit a chapel and spend some quiet time to admire the architecture. Both exterior and interior are stunning. There is no charge to visit a chapel if you come for church service. Otherwise the college has quite pricey sightseeing ticket.

The Round Church in Cambridge is a 12th-century landmark and one of the town's famous churches. It is the only church in Cambridge that charges an entry fee to explore inside. This medieval round church, modeled after the church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, is one of only four surviving round churches in England.
The Round Church in Cambridge is an interesting piece of history. With its unique circular architecture, this 12th-century church stands as a symbol of medieval architecture and design. It's also one of the 4 standing round churches in England. Entry is ticketed and dog friendly. The adult ticket costs £3.50, and the kids go free. Highly recommended for a traquil visit to learn about Cambridge's history.

Beautiful Unique Church Architecture This is a landmark building in the UK and also for Cambridge. There are not that many Churches that are circular in this country. This particularly interesting Church dates back from the 12th Century. It is really beautiful & stunning, we all enjoyed visiting it.

It's The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, widely known as The Round Church. It's unique because of its design and its history. There are only 4 round churches there in England which are still standing. It's located in the center of Cambridge. It's not free to enter. It's worth visiting as it's different from other churches and got a well explained history behind the design.
Prashant S — Google review
Amazing insight into not only the church, but also Cambridge through history. The staff were lovely and very knowledgeable. A very interesting building. They also do tours.
Karen W — Google review
Though it would be lovely if this building were still used as a place of worship and thus retained some of its sacred atmosphere, still it does not fail to impress as a beautiful example of sacred architecture in the round. Though the Templars are quite absent in any of the information given about the building and its times, their stamp is clearly upon it.

Jo was our tour guide for the University Walking Tour. She was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and personable. She chatted with each of us and made herself available for any questions throughout the tour. Jo was extremely articulate and thorough in her explanation of different aspects of the university, and made sure to highlight connections between the university’s history and the Christian faith. I was very impressed with her emphasis on the most important foundational concepts of Christianity was blessed by her sharing of the gospel message. I would absolutely recommend this tour for anyone interested in a wonderful experience visiting Cambridge!

Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, St Botolph's Church is a charming slice of history that offers a serene escape from the bustling city. This Grade-listed parish church, dedicated to the seventh-century abbot and patron saint of travelers, stands near where the medieval south gate once welcomed visitors from London.
It isn't that surprising that there are as many as 71 Churches dedicated to Saint Botolph in England he is the patron saint of travel after all . I have managed to get to 2 of them I need to get moving but both of these were special . This one in Cambridge is beautiful and an oasis of peace and quiet in a busy city . St Botolph’s Church, often called “The Church by the Castle”, is a charming historic landmark in the heart of Cambridge. Originally serving both the local parish and the nearby castle community, it features a fascinating mix of Norman and Gothic architectural details. The church is dedicated to Saint Botolph, the patron saint of travelers, and its historic bells have called generations of residents to worship. Despite its central location, the church offers a peaceful, almost hidden corner of the city, making it a delightful spot to admire medieval craftsmanship and soak up local history.

Went along to an Evensong earlier today, it was just myself and another man - George - who told me it’s typically only him on Fridays. The service was really lovely; quiet & reflective, & that really did help me put my mind to God. The church itself is gorgeous, too, & I would certainly love to come here again some day for a service of Holy Communion!

Little St Mary’s Church (St Mary the Less) in Cambridge has origins in the 12th century. Rebuilt in 1352 by Peterhouse College and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it later served both as the parish church and the college chapel until 1632. The church suffered damage during the Puritan reforms of the 1640s but was restored in the 19th century by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Today, this Grade II* listed building remains a fine example of medieval architecture and Anglican heritage.

Seldom write reviews but felt compelled to here. The three girls who served me and my sister on 08/12/2024 were simply amazing. Helped me find the product I wanted to exchange, exchanged for a slightly different product (same garment with different hardware colour), and packaged up into a gift box - all with no fuss, hassle, or attitude. You three were simply amazing - we left smiling and refreshed that retail still has some golden stars working in it! Keep it up, legends!

Visited the store in Grand Arcade Cambridge today with my wife. Interested in leather jackets, looked at a couple which the store put aside for us. Went back a few hours later and bought them. The staff were so helpful, so polite, so engaging it was a total difference from the service normally received from a retail store. Without doubt the service received is what any retailer should aspire to, the staff at All Saints Cambridge are an absolute breath of fresh air and I just wanted to say thank you.

I went yesterday with my son. Bought a green shirt and being served by a polite and friendly sales person called Risvan. He was very helpful and friendly. Better service than John Lewis! 5* service. Thank you Risvan. I dont normally write a review but yesterday he made my day!

Contrary to some of the more recent comments I came into the store about 4pm for the first time with a new starter and a lady on the top floor. Nothing was too much trouble, the t shirt I was after unfortunately wasn’t in stock however I was shown alternatives and given numerous sizes to try on as all saints sizing is larger commonly, the service was fantastic it even persuaded me to buy a t shirt I hadn’t considered before. Thank you for that

Assume it was female manager who refused refund/ credit gift voucher for item needing to be returned but out of return period . Bad attitude and 0%customer service/ relation skills. I went in after contacting head office who gave extended return period. Must of been same manager as matched description and frosty attitude repeated no refund out of date bluntly. Ha ha!! I handed over email from head office. Credit gift card issued in silence by said Manager .your nice when we come to buy but hostile verging on rude if we come back. Suggest a course in customer relations or a job where you don’t mix with the dreaded public

Friendly welcome from both staff members on the shop floor. Asked if we needed anything without being pushy. When I did have a question the lady was so helpful! What I wanted they didn't have in store, so she showed me on the big tablet and helped me to purchase it. Not to mention that when it came (on-time I might add!) the item was beautiful! Great quality. I wish I had caught her name. She did have lovely nails, with red around the tips! If this gets to her then thank you! :-)

The Fitzwilliam Museum, located on Trumpington Street in Cambridge, is a renowned destination for art and history enthusiasts. Established in 1816, the museum boasts an extensive collection of classical art and artifacts from various cultures. Visitors can explore Asian ceramics, armor, coins, paintings, and archaeological remains such as a Roman Swiss army knife and a colorful 3000-year-old Nespawershefyt coffin from Egypt.
Visiting the Museum right as it opened was a fantastic idea. We had many of the galleries to ourselves, which made the experience even more special. The collection is incredibly diverse, spanning from ancient Egyptian artifacts to masterpieces by famous painters. The building itself is a work of art, and it's a great place to spend a few hours exploring history and culture. Best of all, it's free to enter!

The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge is truly a gem—and completely free! Founded in 1816 from the personal collection of Richard Fitzwilliam, it has grown into a world-class museum with stunning collections of art, antiquities, manuscripts, and decorative arts. The building itself is beautiful, with grand galleries and a light-filled central hall. Highlights include works by Turner, Monet, and Van Dyck, as well as fascinating Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts. Every corner has something to surprise you, from delicate miniatures to imposing sculptures. Whether you’re an art lover, history enthusiast, or just curious, it’s easy to spend hours exploring. A perfect cultural stop in Cambridge, and a must-see for both locals and visitors.

This is a fantastic museum and if you’re interested in art, it would be a reason enough to come to Cambridge, even if you have nothing else while you’re here. There’s a lot of nice impressionist paintings as well as other realist and pointillism from around the same time. As you could see in the photos, the Holdings for armory, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, ceramics are very extensive. I’ve got a big gift shop in a very nice little café on site as well. It’s really nice.

A true oasis of culture and beauty in the heart of Cambridge. Whenever I have a bit of time I like to walk in and get a good dose of inspiration. The museum never disappoints. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. I like the new, more modern display mixing various periods under different themes, it's refreshing. There are always fascinating temporary exhibitions too. The café and gift shop are also excellent. All in all, the Fitzwilliam museum is a must if you have more than several hours in Cambridge.

Very nice museum with a lots of different arts displayed from various era and places. If you like arts your place is here when you visiting Cambridge. The entry was free, the staff was polite and helpful all the way. Please make a note turn off your phone flash as it harms the the displayed arts. The staff also will ask you politely. You can take many photos as you want. Very diverse and nice collection. Recommended to visit it. I post pictures from my favourite part the armory.

now write me a short review of my trip to the fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge England. The visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge was a captivating exploration of art and history, offering an impressive collection that spans centuries and cultures. Highlights included the museum’s exquisite paintings and finely curated artifacts, each thoughtfully presented to tell its own unique story. The blend of classical and contemporary works created a rich, immersive experience, making the Fitzwilliam a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, archaeology, and cultural heritage in a beautifully historic setting.

We only had time to visit the main museum but were not disappointed, some great pieces very nicely and clearly displayed. The building itself is simply stunning
Ady F — Google review
Popped in for a few hours before my train, so unfortunately didn't get to see everything, but what I did see was impressive. There is definitely something for everyone here, with artifacts seemingly from all over the world, and from every time period, even some modern works of art. I particularly enjoyed the armory room, seeing all the weapons and armour is right up my street. The piece that struck me most was a firearm that was also an axe! I also really enjoyed seeing some of the old Chinese dynasties pottery, given how old it is and that other ancient cultures usually take the limelight, some artifacts were over 3000 years old! Definitely one to revisit and see what I missed the first time round!

The Corpus Clock, located outside Cambridge's Corpus Christi College, is a remarkable monument created by John C Taylor and unveiled in 2008. The clock features a unique design with a gold-plated face and an insect-like creature called the Chronophage perched on top, symbolizing the devouring of time. Instead of traditional hands, the time is displayed through backlit LED lights in concentric rings.
Superb. I just love this place. Visited this for more than 3 times now. The clock is designed so well and looks so beautiful. It’s surrounded by many attractions like colleges, punting, shops and all. We took lots of pictures here. Only thing you need to take care about is the reflection on clock’s glass while taking pictures, it’s so annoying and you can’t avoid it unless you use another angle. Cleanliness: 4/5 Attractive: 5/5 Parking: we used park and ride method 3/5 Toilet: use any nearby shop 3/5 Must visit.

I know it's only a clock, but it's a very special clock. One which is mysterious, hypnotic and captivating, all at once. If you're in Cambridge and haven't seen it before, make sure you check it out. It's even more magical when it's dark, as you get to see these awesome blue lights 😀.
Tintin — Google review
The Corpus Clock is an intriguing and unusual piece of public art located right on the corner of one of Cambridge’s busiest intersections. The craftsmanship is fascinating — especially the way the grasshopper-like Chronophage “eats time.” It’s a brilliant fusion of art, science, and engineering, and worth seeing if you’re nearby. That said, the spot is quite cramped and always busy, so it’s hard to stop and take photos without being in the way. Still, a quick look as you pass by is well worth it.
Kamaldeep S — Google review
A unique and fascinating landmark in Cambridge. The Corpus Clock was unveiled in 2008 by Stephen Hawking and created by John C. Taylor, a former student of Corpus Christi College. The clock is known as the Chronophage – the “time eater.” Instead of hands, it shows the time with blue LEDs. On top sits a large mechanical grasshopper that “devours” each second as it passes. There are no numbers on the face, and the movement is deliberately uneven, to remind us that the flow of time feels subjective. In fact, the clock shows the exact time only once every five minutes. Both artistic and philosophical, it is a striking reminder that time is precious, fleeting, and unstoppable. Definitely worth seeing in person when in Cambridge.
Olga L — Google review
We took a train from Liverpool station in London to Cambridge to start our Cambridge day trip. This was our first stop. There is a very informative article by Dr Ewan St. John Smith entitled "Secrets of the Corpus Clock" on the Corpus Christi College site. We also visited the Mathematical Bridge nearby, which has a long history.
Patrick X — Google review
The Corpus Clock is a striking and unconventional timepiece located at Corpus Christi College in Cambridge, England. Unveiled on September 19, 2008, by physicist Stephen Hawking, this clock has captivated visitors with its unique design and thought-provoking symbolism. 🕰️ Design and Functionality Spanning approximately 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) in diameter, the clock’s face is a rippling, 24-carat gold-plated stainless steel disc. Instead of traditional hands or numerals, time is displayed through 60 illuminated slits arranged in three concentric rings, representing seconds, minutes, and hours. These slits light up sequentially, creating the illusion of moving hands. On a top of the clock sits the Chronophage, a mechanical grasshopper-like figure that “eats” time. This creature moves its jaws every second, symbolizing the relentless passage of time. The Chronophage’s movement is linked to the clock’s mechanism, which employs a grasshopper escapement—a design first introduced by John Harrison in the 18th century. However, in the Corpus Clock, this escapement is externalized and exaggerated, serving both a functional and artistic purpose.
Yarys — Google review
The Corpus Clock is free, and that’s the right price. It’s a striking design, but the real show is the beast above the clock. It blinks, crawls, and adds a touch of unease. At night, the glow makes it more impressive. Worth a quick stop, though it’s more spectacle than depth. 3.5/5
Real P — Google review
The Corpus Clock was unveiled in 2008 by physicist Stephen Hawking. It was conceived and funded by Dr. John C. Taylor, a Cambridge alumnus, inventor, and horologist best known for inventing the thermostat in electric kettles. He spent over £1 million of his own money and five years to create the clock. The clock is mounted on the outside of the Taylor Library, facing King's Parade. It’s a mechanical clock with no hands or numbers. Instead, time is displayed through blue LED lights that show the hours, minutes, and seconds around a 24-carat gold-plated stainless steel disc. The Chronophage is a sculpted mechanical insect that "walks" around the clock face as time passes. Its legs move, it blinks, and occasionally it opens its mouth and appears to "eat" time, symbolizing the relentless nature of time and mortality.

Visitors can also explore charming shops and enjoy refreshments at places like Fitzbillies cake shop while taking in the beautiful scenery by the river.
Attractive small park area, home to one of the most iconic views in Cambridge. The magnificent buildings of King's College dominate the scene looking across the river, while punts travel past in the foreground. At the time of my visit in early April, the wooded area was carpeted with blue and white flowers, lending it a natural feel that contrasts well with the surrounding architecture. The paths are well maintained and the area kept spotlessly clean. A short walk across Garret Hostel Bridge from the city center, The Backs is a must-see location for visitors to Cambridge. Paid parking is available by the side of Queen's Road for up to 4 hours.

Trinity College, a prestigious academic institution founded by King Henry VIII in 1546, is the largest college in Cambridge. Its grand gothic architecture surrounds a vast courtyard and includes the famous Wren Library, home to original works by Shakespeare, Newton, and Swift. Visitors can admire the monumental Tudor gateway with its statue of Henry VIII and explore the college's exterior from a punt on the River Cam if interior access is restricted.
Trinity College in Cambridge is an absolute masterpiece, both historically and architecturally. The grandeur of the Great Court alone is enough to take your breath away; it's one of the largest enclosed courts in Europe, and its sheer scale makes you feel part of something monumental. Founded by Henry VIII in 1546, the college is steeped in history, and you can feel it in every stone. The chapel, library, and gardens all add to Trinity's charm, offering a serene escape from the bustling city just outside. The college’s list of alumni speaks for itself: from Newton to Byron to Turing, you’re surrounded by a legacy of minds that changed the world. Definitely recommend 👌.

Walking into Trinity College felt like stepping straight into a history book — the courtyards are massive and perfectly maintained, and there’s a calm, timeless vibe everywhere. What really makes this place special though is the Wren Library. I didn’t expect to be as impressed as I was, but it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of my day in Cambridge. The library itself isn’t huge, but the moment you walk in and see that sunlight pouring through the high windows, lighting up those old wooden shelves and glass cases — it’s magic. They’ve got some incredible manuscripts on display, like Isaac Newton’s notebooks and handwritten work by Milton. It’s all real, original stuff just sitting right there in front of you. No photos allowed inside, which I actually liked — it forces you to slow down and take it in properly. Also, the college backs onto the River Cam, and if you walk around to The Backs, the view from there is just beautiful — a perfect spot to rest for a bit before exploring more. Trinity felt more “lived-in” than some of the other colleges, and somehow more welcoming too. Definitely worth seeing, especially if you’re into literature, science, or just appreciate beautiful places.

A wonderful tour of Trinity college with one of the porters today. Lots of interesting stories and well worth the ticket price of just 5 pounds. I would highly recommend it. Thinking of all the past students including our King, Newton , Tennyson, Byron etc.

If you want to visit, try to go along a student from the city, it is mostly mandatory in order to gain access to this gem. This time in the Trinity College, the top college for quantitative methods in all Cambridge network (from what you hear, don’t take my word as the pure truth), has a small tree outside that people say it was were Newton was hit by the famous apple 🍎. One interesting thing is that a few months ago, they had an exposition of the unpublished letters of Oppenheimer with the Dean, professors and some personal items. The library is open from reduced hours and they have a ghost in their Antechapel.

A very inspiring college with the most famous alumni: Newton, Bohr, Baggage, Maxwell, Ramanujan. We were there on Sunday and enjoyed the simple but delicious brunch. Not very crowded. Admission is free for visitors (max 2 people) accompanied by a college member.
Sahitya — Google review
“An excellent guided tour of one of Cambridge’s most magnificent colleges. The porter was knowledgeable and engaging, with plenty of stories about Newton, Byron and the Great Court Run. Strangely, however, the narrative skips lightly over some rather well-known 20th-century alumni who made headlines of a very different sort. Evidently, that chapter isn’t part of the official tour — which is a pity, because I suspect visitors might find it just as fascinating as Newton’s apple. It would show real moral courage for the College to face its whole past, not just the admirable parts. A college of such stature has little to lose — and much to gain — by telling the whole story.”

Corpus Christi College, established in 1352 by the townspeople, boasts the historic Old Court dating back to 1377. The library houses valuable manuscripts collected by Archbishop Matthew Parker, and St. Benet's Church, the original college chapel with a notable late Saxon tower. Renowned alumni include dramatists Christopher Marlowe and John Fletcher.
Corpus Christi College is one of the smaller but very charming colleges of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1352. Despite its modest size, it has a rich history and a cozy, intimate atmosphere that sets it apart from some of the larger, more imposing colleges. The college is known for its beautiful courtyards, classic architecture, and peaceful gardens. One of its highlights is the Parker Library, which houses a remarkable collection of medieval manuscripts, some dating back over a thousand years—making it a treasure trove for historians and scholars. Corpus Christi also sits along the River Cam, with a picturesque riverside area that’s perfect for a quiet walk or watching punters glide by. The college’s blend of historic charm, academic significance, and serene surroundings makes it a hidden gem in Cambridge, often less crowded than some of the more famous colleges, which adds to its appeal.

Beautiful & Historical College This is one of my favorite colleges in Cambridge. It is grand and beautiful. Dating back since 1352 it is really old and has been at the center of Cambridge education since a really long time. It has a fantastic lawn and an amazing Britishness to it that I personally really like. Well worth your time to visit, even if not as famous as some of the other colleges I still think this is a unique and precious building. Highly recommended!

Much smaller than the famous King's College, Corpus Christi College is one of the oldest, and well worth the UKP 5 entry price they'll charge you to visit the grounds and chapel. The "Old Court" dates back to 1350s and features some of the oldest buildings in Cambridge, while the "New Court" was established in 1827. The chapel is quite lovely, if small, the current building is also from 1827. It's painted glass windows came from Germany when the Abbey of Mariawald was demolished in the Napoleonic wars. You can walk the grounds of the college, but of course the students' quarters are off-limits to tourists, as are the mensa and several other areas, all of which are clearly indicated by signs. SO essentially, a visit of roundabout 20 minutes for the current price of a pint.

One of the less known college among the thirty one semi autonomous college in Cambridge. It was built in 1352 by by the Guild of Corpus Christi and the Guild of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is the only college founded the Cambridge people. It is the sixth oldest college in Cambridge. The rest of the colleges were founded by the nobles and the royals. Impressive architecture and wonderful history.

Read the Daily Telegraph article, 'An innocent man was hounded to his death by young vigilantes, and nothing has been done'. In January 2024 a student of this college, Alexander Rogers, was beaten up, humiliated and ostracised for something he had not done. He walked to the river and threw himself off Donnington Bridge. The leader of the pack of vigilantes was a student who acted as a welfare officer. Think of Alexander when you take in the beauty that hides the evil in this place.

Clare College is rather hidden even though it is located in the city centre. It is undergoing some refurbishment at the moment and seems to be perpetually closed to public. Clare College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. The college was founded in 1326 as University Hall, making it the second-oldest surviving college of the University after Peterhouse. It was refounded in 1338 as Clare Hall by an endowment from Elizabeth de Clare, and took on its current name in 1856. Clare is famous for its chapel choir and for its gardens on "The Backs" the back of the colleges that overlook the River Cam.

Had a phenomenal time here pursuing a PhD here at Cambridge. Came back to visit after 8 years away. Was hoping to catch a glimpse of Clare but the college is under construction. While they are open to "alumni," they only mean Clare alumni. Other colleges' alumni are prohibited unfortunately. Not the friendliest porters I must say. Here are the admissions policies of all colleges we visited (or attempted to visit) between July 28 and August 3: Open to all visitors Jesus (open to all visitors) St. John’s (open to all visitors) King’s (open to all visitors) Downing (open to all visitors) Emmanuel (open to all visitors) Corpus Christi (open to all visitors) Queen’s (open to all visitors) Newnham (open to all visitors) Pembroke (open to all visitors, closed on one day for a wedding) Open to any alumni, regardless of college Trinity (only open to any alumni, likely due to construction work) St. Catherine’s (only open to any alumni) Magdalene (only open to any alumni) Only open to their own alumni Peterhouse (only open to their own alumni; exceptions may be made for other alumni) Christ (only open to their own alumni, likely due to construction work and wedding on one day) Sidney Sussex (only open to their own alumni – could not visit) Gonville & Caius (only open to their own alumni – could not visit) Trinity Hall (only open to their own alumni – could not visit) Clare (only open to their own alumni, likely due to construction work - could not visit; second rudest porters behind Pembroke)

I stayed at Clare College this week and my experience with the cleaning staff was poor. They took all my belongings and shoved them into the closet days before I had to check out. I also previously wrapped a gift, which I placed away in my room and I noticed it was unwrapped after my room got cleaned. Some of my important personal items went missing after that, as well. My friend, who also stayed at the College found her dirty laundry shoved under the sofa by the cleaning staff.

Had a phenomenal time here pursuing a PhD. Came back to visit after 8 years away, but Gonville & Caius was unfortunately closed to all visitors, including alumni. Rather disappointed but it is what it is. Gonville & Caius is opposite Michaelhouse (St Michael’s Church with Michaelhouse café) and is the fourth oldest college in Cambridge [1348]. Continue down Senate House Passage to Trinity Lane to see Trinity Hall – the fifth oldest college [1350]. Corpus Christi is not far away being the sixth oldest college [1352]. You can find it between the Corpus Clock and Pembroke College.

Trinity Hall Cambridge is a charming and intimate college located by the riverside in the heart of Cambridge. Founded in 1350, it has a rich history and is known for its focus on law, although it now offers a wide range of subjects. The college boasts traditional architecture, including an 18th-century hall and a Tudor library. Visitors praise the welcoming atmosphere, high-quality food, and beautiful surroundings.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and it was an unforgettable experience. The college's rich history, stunning architecture, and serene environment left a lasting impression on me. The elegant courtyards, the beautiful chapel, and the picturesque riverside setting created a perfect blend of tradition and tranquility. Walking through the ancient corridors and exploring the well-preserved gardens gave me a glimpse into the life of students past and present. The staff and guides were incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about the college's heritage and notable alumni. While the visit was mostly delightful, I felt that some areas could benefit from more detailed informational plaques to enhance the self-guided tour experience. Nevertheless, the charm and historical significance of Trinity Hall far outweighed this minor critique. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Trinity Hall, Cambridge, to anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply soaking in the ambiance of one of Cambridge's oldest colleges.

Had a phenomenal time here pursuing a PhD. Came back to visit after 8 years away, but Trinity Halll was unfortunately closed to all visitors, including alumni. I feel like the colleges should really standardized their policy for visiting. The rules vary so wildly amongst the colleges (i.e. some allow all visitors, some allow all alumni only, some allow only their own alumni, some allow none). At least the staff was nice about it. The Leper Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene, located to the east of Cambridge's bustling city center, is a remarkable piece of England's historical tapestry. Dating back to 1125, this ancient chapel was originally constructed for a leper hospital and stands as one of the oldest structures in the area. While the hospital itself has long since vanished, the chapel remains an enchanting example of Norman architecture that continues to captivate visitors.
Beautiful, little chapel, like stepping into Cambridge's history. A hidden gem

Fantastic mediaeval building from around 1125 and is the second oldest complete building in Cambridge. In 1211 king John granted charter allowing a three day market on the vigil of Holy Cross. It survived due to its association with the Stourbridge Fair. You need to walk to it as there is no parking nearby but it's worth it.
Stephen M — Google review
Free to visit. It's only open on a small number of days each year (look at the website in advance), although you can get a very good idea of it from the outside (accessible at any time) and it's mostly rather plain inside (albeit with some interesting architectural details). Originally 12th century though it has been much repaired, rebuilt and altered over the centuries. It sits on a pleasant plot of green land just alongside Newmarket Road: you can easily park at one of the superstores nearby and walk there. It's very small, so if you want to extend the visit then you can walk down to the river and on to Fen Ditton or further.

Nestled at the intersection of Market Street and Sidney Street in the vibrant shopping district of central Cambridge, Holy Trinity Church boasts a rich history that spans over 800 years. Originally built to replace a church lost to fire in 1174, only its western wall remains from that earlier structure. The church has undergone significant transformations throughout the English Reformation and showcases stunning Gothic Perpendicular architecture.
What an awesome place. Got a friendly welcome and inspiring worship and sermon. Real sense of God's presence.

Yesterday we were blessed by a moving, spirit-filled, Palm Sunday at Holy Trinity Church with a powerful message from Ben Crelin, via Nebraska & Massachusetts, who gave a Tim Keller-esque sermon illuminating a part of the Bible I’ve grappled with until yesterday. Thank you, Pastor Ben, for that illumination. The band was a powerhouse as well leaving me struggling to sing through choking back tears of gratitude for God. It was a great day. Praise God. 🌈 And praise God for everyone involved in this Holy Trinity Church - including its parishioners. While in church I prayed with a woman heading to Oxford to become a Vicar and asked God that she’d see rainbows in all sorts of unexpected places as a means of encouragement. I left church, ordered a takeaway meal and upon stepping out of the Poke Bowl restaurant with my meal was greeted by the rainbow in the attached photo. God is real. Look for the signs. They are all around. Praise God.

I’ve never met a more welcoming church staff and congregation. Moved to Cambridge from the States and felt so at home right away. Sound leadership, Biblical teaching, emphasis on prayer, intentional worship, and filled with so many incredibly faithful and friendly people. Definitely worth the visit!
Julia B — Google review
I think this is an absolutely wonderful church! There was a warm welcome, the worship was exceptional (balanced, melodic and beautifully not drawing attention to itself, but always pointing to God) and the Associate Vicar leading the service (so sorry, I do not recall the name) exhibited what feels to me like a rare ability these days - the ability to give appropriate spaces for reflection and the Holy Spirit. Ordinary people afterwards (i.e. not the hosts assigned to do greeting) were naturally warm and friendly without being manic or over-focussed. I also had an exceptional and very accurate encouraging and personal prophetic word from Vicar Steven Copsey - wow! (Thanks again Steven!) The place is also smart - well-painted, well-lit and with good visibility with the display screens. If I lived in Cambridge I would 100% make this my local weekly church. Well done church team, you’re doing such a great job! (We visited on Sunday 21st Sep 2025)

Nestled next to Christ's College and Lion Yard, St Andrew the Great Church is a charming informal evangelical church that beautifully marries Victorian architecture with elegant iron interior pillars. Dating back to the mid-19th century, this Grade II listed building boasts several 18th-century monuments, including one dedicated to the renowned sailor Captain James Cook. The church offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere where community members gather for regular services centered around Bible teaching rather than elaborate ceremonies.
Went here for for a wedding two weeks ago. The church service was upbeat and modern, with a good Christian message. The music was beautifully chosen and well played. Refreshing to see a young vicar who was dressed in a suit giving such a good address. There are toilet facilities should you need them. The church is an eclectic building which l think would appeal to most tastes. Overall felt the service was one that would appeal to most people today, without overbearing religious ceremony and one where you would hear the message of Jesus!

I’ve been going to stag since May 2022 every week and every Wednesday as a relatively new Christian and I think it is a really good church. I’d only been to small student churches and tried C3 too but I think that Stag has everything. The small groups are welcoming and easy to make friends with people my age but they make sure there is something for every demographic here and the teaching is very close to the Bible.

I was here for three years as an undergraduate, and this Church benefited me enormously. The Bible is preached faithfully and fearlessly, and they are prepared to tackle even the most counter-cultural passages head on. The Church family is really welcoming and supportive. I made some of my closest friends at this Church, and there is a real culture of openly talking about the Bible. The Sunday services in particular are great for people who have never been to Church before: they are only an hour long, and the service leaders are very good at explaining what is happening. Because it is such a large Church, you do have to make a bit of an effort to form deep friendships - it is is easy to have great chat after a service then not see the person you met again for three weeks! For students, I would really recommend the Tuesday night Bible study group, Focus, to get to know people better.
Eden H — Google review
This is a super church, it is arranged very much around a small centre stage and tightly packed. There are balconies and the though the area is not huge, the volume is, and the number of people in the congregation can be great. Although in Covid-19 times it is obviously not packed out. When I have been there in normal times, it makes me think of what every church on earth is supposed to be - a pointer to the gathering of everyone around Jesus in heaven, worshipping together. The dimensions of this building accurately allow this intended symbolism to be felt in a great way.

St Edward King & Martyr C Of E Church, located in the heart of Cambridge, is a historic Anglican church with roots dating back to the 13th century. Named after Edward the Martyr, it features fascinating historic elements from the 12th century such as a tall tower and an almost 500-year-old wooden pulpit. The church played a significant role in English religious history and was where the first openly evangelical sermon of the English Reformation took place.

As one of the city's oldest churches, it has undergone numerous renovations over the years and is currently in the midst of exciting updates, including a small lift for accessibility. Nestled in the northern part of Cambridge on Castle Street, St Giles Church is a stunning Grade II* listed building that dates back to 1875. This architectural gem beautifully incorporates two arches from its predecessor, adding a touch of history to its elegant design. Just a stone's throw away is St Giles Language School, where students can immerse themselves in an enriching English learning experience.
I spent a month at St. Giles Language School in Cambridge. During the four weeks, I had many positive experiences and made wonderful memories. The school has a family atmosphere and wishes and suggestions are respected. I attended the intensive course and was able to learn a lot. The teachers taught with a varied teaching style, from which I benefited greatly. Cambridge is also a great place to learn English, as it is a perfect mix of a historic city, lots of shopping opportunities and a wide range of leisure activities. If you have any problems during your stay, for example with your host family, you will be helped immediately.
Alex B — Google review
I recently had the opportunity to attend St Giles school with my family for a two-week English course. Unfortunately, my experience was not what I had hoped for, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts with other potential customers. We signed up for the family course, with one adult and three kids of different ages and English levels. My main goal was to attract my kids to the language and help them lose their inhibitions when speaking it. I expected to receive uncompromisingly professional lecturers with tons of experience, and immersive and entertaining afternoon/weekend activities. I also expected the lecturers to adapt specifically to different levels of English of different kids, especially my 5-year-old who hardly expresses herself in her mother tongue compared to my 10/12-year-old who has already spent many years studying English in school. Unfortunately, what we received was far from our expectations. In the first week, all three kids were in a group with a child from a very different culture, and the other kid was even unable to read the English alphabet. It was impossible to prepare a meaningful program for such a group, and it ended up with the youngest watching YouTube videos while the elder kids were scared by irregular verbs the same day. The teacher was very unprofessional. She often used her personal mobile phone, which is unacceptable for a teacher, and was not able to immerse the kids in the activities. The kids were never looking forward to seeing her again in the morning and were so happy when the course finally ended every day. In the second week, the kids were split into two groups, and the elder two got a new lecturer, who was very entertaining, able to play guitar, and having fun with the kids. However, compared to the previous lecturer, he was the opposite. It's a mystery to me why he did not teach the first week, while we’ve seen him there the first week. Afternoon activities were an absolute disaster both weeks, and the lecturer obviously never visited those places; she used Google maps to navigate every site, including the botanic garden, which is basically on the same street as the school. She always seemed like she wanted to go home and was tired of the place and work. Weekends were just outsourced at some external agency, and the lecturer never came with us. We had to develop some effort to get information about the weekend activity; it never came automatically. The way of organizing activities for customers might have been proper 20-50 years ago when there were no internet and no mobile phones with any information at your fingertips. Weekend/afternoon activities were different from the schedule we were provided in advance. The accommodation service was satisfactory, and we loved the hosting ladies, but the food provided at the canteen was horrible. Giving kids a sandwich with potato chips every day is dangerous for their healthy development. Even after a complaint, I was told that it’s an external service, and the school cannot do anything about it. Overall, I paid an incredibly high amount of money for a course that I could have organized myself. I will probably do it again next year, but hardly at St Giles. I cannot recommend this institution to other potential customers.
Michal M — Google review

It serves as an excellent venue for various events such as political party meetings, jazz band practice, concerts, choir performances, and gig nights. The Victorian architecture adds to its old-world charm, creating a peaceful and open-minded environment that is welcoming to all.
Went to see Our Girl, wasn’t disappointed at all! The staff were so nice and there was a really cosy/friendly atmosphere. It’s a bit cold, but what can you expect from a church? Would definitely go again.

Medical clinic
Cambridge Access Surgery is a remarkable healthcare facility located just over a mile from the city center, easily accessible via public transport. Initially, some individuals may hesitate to register here due to pride or misconceptions about its focus on homeless patients. However, this practice offers much more than basic medical care; it provides compassionate support for those facing various challenges, including substance abuse issues. The staff at Cambridge Access Surgery are known for their nonjudgmental and sincere approach, treating every patient with dignity and respect.
The staff always polite and helpful always manage to get an appointment if needed . Also the phone is always answered and the GPS/nurses I have come across are professional and you feel listened to. ! 🙂

EDIT - After 20 weeks of homelessness I am back in a place now and have moved GP. Thank you to the people of CAS who helped me through a difficult time. I can't thank these wonderful people enough. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening and helping me.
Oli — Google review
I initially was resistant to registering here when I was homeless, because my sense of pride made me think I was more than capable of managing things like my medical needs. I didn't consider it necessary for me to attend a Gp specifically for homeless people. How wrong I was. They are so much more than that. Particularly for those experiencing substance abuse issues like myself. The practice was so incredibly nonjudgemental, open minded, sincere and supportive. They treated me like a person , not a rough sleeping junky. They didn't react to things that others may have. Like people's more challenging issues or behaviour. Instead they made extra effort to accommodate those people to be able to utilise the service as well as anyone else. Without causing upset to the challenging client or other clients. I cannot praise them enough. I personally believe that one of the key aspects to starting to live a functional and self respectful lifestyle is learning to love and respect oneself. After that, one may find the will to stop abusing substances. And live life fully. Simply having professionals available to me who treated me with respect and dignity (which everyone deserves regardless of ones status re housing or addiction) encouraged me to realise that is what I should expect from others. Society generally assumes that people experiencing these hurdles in life do so because they deserve it. I am fairly sure that everyone who is fortunate enough to become acquainted with those suffering from homelessness and/or addiction are surprised to find how untrue that is. The challenges that everyone I met when I was rough sleeping were such that just surviving them was incredible without the additional burden of sleeping in a shop doorway. And the general public can be cruel and nasty to a shocking degree. The stories my friends shared with me were stories of survival. Sometimes sleeping on the street can be the last straw. People find it hard to have the will to survive. The people in the access surgery never made me feel less than. I am now a support worker with homeless people. The Access Surgery definitely played a part in my road to recovery and survival. Mostly because they were kind, at a time when I was desperate for kindness. For that I am grateful.
Sophie D — Google review
I owe my life to the doctors at the access surgery. Have the highest regard for all of them.

Nestled on Trinity Street in Cambridge, Michaelhouse, also known as St. Michael's Church, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture that dates back to the 1350s. Originally serving as a chapel for the early college of Michaelhouse—now part of Trinity College—this parish church boasts intricate period details and an inviting atmosphere. Visitors can explore its beautiful interior while enjoying a delightful café experience within the church itself, which hosts various events and exhibitions throughout the year.
Beautiful. Good if you are planning a small wedding and want to have the reception on the same venue. Vicar is from great st marys.

Good news: Plenty of tables because, (bad news), ultra slow service doesn't fill the tables. Food choice good IMHO. Long wait for kitchen to heat food which after 15 mins arrived tepid at best. And after all this, it is relatively expensive. Could be so good after a time-and-motion study.
Mik L — Google review
Good quality tea. Chocolate brownie though was poor 3/10.  Really its a cocoa brownie as theres not a shred of chocolate in it and too much sugar. No 2 layer cakes let alone a 3 or 4 layer sponge. All are slices, friands or cup cakes. Nothing sugar free. Two GF slices - the ubiquitous brownie and flapjack. Inadequate , uncomfortable outdoor seating. In all, disappointing after the hype.

St Peter's Church is a small yet historically significant church that dates back to Norman times, with much of its original material being used in the rebuilding process. The church features a simple and understated interior, complemented by a wild garden outside. One of its notable attractions is the 12th-century font adorned with mermen, linking it to the Saxons.
A step back in time. What a remarkable church dating from the Norman times with so much history. Worth stopping by and also visiting Kettle's Yard while there (an art museum and café right next to the church).

A quiet and peaceful place. Its origins date back to the 11th century but remains of its Saxon past are only visible in the form of two carved doorways and the stone font, decorated with four mermen. It is believed that Mermen have an ancient link to St Peter, patron saint of fishermen.

This large and imposing church is richly decorated in the gothic style favoured by the Oxford Revival, and it feels oddly cold and unwelcoming. However, it is a beautiful place to worship, and I highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.
Attractive church in a small churchyard overlooking picturesque buildings. Parts of the church date back to the early 11th century, though much of what is seen today is from the Victorian era. Highlights include the grand stone internal arches, ornately painted screen, and stained glass windows depicting different saints. The church is a peaceful place to spend a while away from the bustle of the city center and worth the walk to see.

This was such a interesting church and I had the honor of speaking with a 92 year old lady and let me tell you she has it together. She was dressed beautifully and was waiting to go into mud day prayer group. I could only imagine what this chruch looked like 80 years ago when she was 12. This is what I love traveling and meeting interesting people. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing the cool places, but after speaking with her today, this reminded me why I love to.

Downing Place United Reformed Church in Cambridge was formed in 2018 through the merger of two historic congregations: Emmanuel Congregational Church (founded in 1687) and St Columba’s Presbyterian Church (built in 1891). The congregation now worships in the former St Columba’s building, a fine example of Early English style architecture. After a major £3.3 million redevelopment completed in 2021, the church combines its deep Nonconformist heritage with a modern, welcoming space for worship and community life.
