Glensheen Mansion, situated in Duluth, Minnesota, is a historic house museum that offers tours of its 39-room mansion and extensive grounds. Originally constructed in 1908 by the influential Congdon family, this architectural masterpiece boasts Jacobean Revival design and breathtaking views of Lake Superior. Visitors can explore the well-preserved interior with original furnishings and learn about the estate's rich history during guided tours.
The grounds and mansion are beautiful! We’ve done several mansion tours around the country and this was the largest, best preserved site we’ve seen. Unfortunately it was 90+ degrees the day we visited and that kept us from fully enjoying it, it is very warm inside the mansion on a hot day, but worth the walk through. We did appreciate the fans set up in every room. I recommend buying tickets ahead of time as entry is timed, we weren’t sure what time we’d be there so we bought tickets when we arrived and waited about an hour. We did the self guided full tour, $64 for two people - again, we felt it was worth it. It’s set up with ropes and signs so it’s always obvious where you should be going next and staff is scattered throughout. We walked through more quickly than we normally would due to the heat, it took us about 45 mins but I could see it taking longer if you stop to read everything. Highly recommend checking it out.
Melissa G — Google review
Walked the grounds with my niece and sister, loved being able to explore the space outside the mansion after years of taking the indoor tour and skipping the outside portion. Pictures from the 20th of August. It was only 5 dollars for the grounds pass.
Rachel ( — Google review
This is truly the most amazing place. The woodwork and craftsmanship were the best I have seen. Most rooms where done in different woodwork and supplies from all over the word. Grounds and home have been well taken care of.
Cindy N — Google review
This is definitely the most impressive mansion tour I've taken. Everything is set up to be very authentic to the period. We took the self-guided tour, which I highly recommend since they have many interpretive markers to read for more information about the room and history.
Tim S — Google review
Holy smokes this place was awesome. Wife and I are into touring mansion museums when traveling and we really appreciated the full self guided tour. Would recommend doing the tour that gets you into the attic and upstairs areas. Colin was an awesome source of information and you can tell that he enjoys sharing.
David T — Google review
This place is awesome! A must see! It's just amazing the amount of money and work that went into building this house in the early 1900s! So modern for its day! The woodworking is just exquisite! And the stable is, wow, like a house, not a barn! We went on a self guided tour for $20 per person. A great tour because the path is marked out so well! And the yard and gardens are just beautiful!
Susan C — Google review
This was a nice in door tour of the mansion. You'll be walking around the rooms and reading family history. There's also a sea shell scavenger hunt which made it fun. There's not a lot of places during the tour to take a break and have a seat but otherwise there's some out door patio furniture once you get outside where you can relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful lake. There's also military discounts, UMD student discounts and elderly discounts as well. Definitely a nice tour if you're into history and architecture.
JayDoo V — Google review
Excellent self-guided tour. Beautiful early turn of the century (1905) mansion. Beautiful views of Lake Superior. Our teens enjoyed that the tour was self paced so they went fast and hung out on the beach and hammocks while we went slower.

New American restaurant
Bar
Restaurant
Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar is a casual dining spot in Canal Park, located in the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace. It offers inventive New American cuisine and regional cocktails in a relaxed setting with outdoor seating. The menu features shareable plates like Beef Tartare, Fresh Mussels, and Charred Shishitos, as well as entrees such as Lamb Tikka Masala, Brick Quail, Salmon, Bulgogi Wagyu Skirt Steak, and Toasted Orzo.
My husband & I enjoyed yet another LOVELY evening at Lake Avenue - from the chef's counter, we sipped tasty cocktails (mezcal & negroni) while observing the chefs & servers create the most perfect meal & experience for all, everything seemed to run flawlessly! We started with the most delicious calamari (perfectly cooked with a chili kick) & next, the warm kale salad (a must eat) and salmon dish. What a perfect evening! Thank you all for taking such good care of us, we cant wait to return!
Vanessa K — Google review
The food was good however not spectacular. I had the red snapper ceviche and the pork belly sandwich for dinner with a black sesame cheesecake for dessert. The sandwhich was amazing but the fries were plain. The ceviche was watery (if that makes sense) but still good, and the cheese cake was average. The wait staff was incredible however and I would definitely go back.
Josiah W — Google review
This place was excellent! It’s a little hidden and you have to go through the market entrance. The salmon was great and I think the portion was perfect for me. I also got the carrot cake for dessert and it was super rich and dense. Super delicious spot for dinner!
Hannah M — Google review
I've not left a restaurant with such a deep understanding of its city like I have with Lake Avenue. Duluth's urban renewal is charming in the same way a childrens' soccer match is, in that there is an earnest attempt regardless of the result. The same cannot be said about Lake Avenue. A rotating menu will always be bold, and I would have commended them for this had the execution not been so poor. In the images I've included, you'll see the Tofu Masala ($24), the Mac and Cheese ($20), and the Steak Dinner ($53). While I cannot be certain which ingredients were used to push these dishes to such a steep price, I know salt was not one of them. The keen-eyed gourmet will undoubtedly spot the great unifying force of the culinary world, fresno chili and pickled red onion. The unnecessary inclusion of these in both the Tofu Masala and the Steak Dinner unfortunately speaks truth to Lake Avenue's attempt at being something it is not - a restaurant worthy of its prices. Neither the Steak nor Tofu Masala benefit from these flavors, but if your menu is on rotation and you lack the culinary experience to accommodate this, it does provide a universal shock to the palette that might distract your guests from the dish's lack of cohesion. In other circumstances, I would not be so harsh, but the $120 (pre-tip) bill my partner and I paid makes that irresponsible. This is Duluth, Minnesota; leave Lake Avenue, walk 20 seconds in any direction and you'll wind up in a T-Shirt shop or a Bar & Grill. Lake Avenue is not fighting the expectations of its patrons, but the ones that it sets upon itself. Find what works and do it well. No one is asking for anything else.

Our visit to Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar was truly enjoyable. We stopped by during a quiet period, so we were seated right away. One of the owners, who was both friendly and attentive, looked after us. We tried the Biscuits and Gravy (without the chili oil) and the Carrot Cake French Toast—both dishes were outstanding and unlike anything we'd tasted before. We're certain we'll return in the future.
Curt O — Google review
Wonderful atmosphere. Nice attentive staff. Food was PHENOMINAL!! only thing I wish different is that the red snapper was the entire fish head on and scored. Most places that serve red snapper do the entire fish. Here it's only 1 fillet. The fish is not quite big enough to do only one fillet. But it was delicious! The calamari was some of the best I've ever had and im from florida and eat a LOT of calamari!
Andrew D — Google review
Very nice setting, the atmosphere was wonderful. The food was great, and the drinks were also amazing. I highly recommend the Hurricane. Rio was our server and he was very polite and had a good sense of humor. I will be coming back here in the future.
Aaron O — Google review
I ordered the red snapper with white bean purée for my entree and it was fantastic. We also shared the pork lettuce wrap with bulgogi sauce and kimchi, also super tasty and I highly recommend. We had as appetizer but it could be a lite dinner or lunch entree.

Hospital
Cardiologist
Established in 1881 by church members in a former blacksmith's shop, St. Luke's Hospital has a rich history of providing healthcare services to the community. Patients have praised the hospital for its efficient emergency room services, with quick response times and attentive staff. The birthing center is also highly regarded for its cleanliness and accommodating environment, with patients commending the excellent care provided by the staff. Additionally, St.
Had my sweet baby in via c section in May 2024 and my experience was the absolute best. I had a c section previously in Cambridge and that was an absolute crap shoot. St Luke's took everything I put in my birth plan and made sure it was 100% followed. It was very smooth. Dr. Swanson is an amazing OB and helped me through a very trying pregnancy. Our room in the birthing center was wonderful, the care of all the birthing center staff and their attentiveness is unbeatable. I had infusions for iron at the infusion center - they were wonderful and very prompt. I also had a hospital stay during my pregnancy for a kidney stone. The room was small but other than that, the staff were great. They informed me of everything that was going on. I also ended up having a cystoscopy and Dr. Carrie was very understanding of my concerns and very informative. Having all this during a pregnancy was very nerve racking and my care team was attentive to my needs and helped me through every step of the way. I prefer to drive here than to any local hospital. Only improvement - different pillows...the pillows are not very comfortable.

My husband took me to the hospital because I wasn't feeling well. We got there around 5:45 PM, and only a couple of people were sitting and waiting. We were called right away to get my vitals checked and the reason I came in. The nurse did a nose swab and had us return to the waiting room. Then, about 30 minutes later, the nurse who took my nose swab told me that he accidentally threw my swab away, and I had to take another one. After sitting for two and a half hours, we noticed that the people who came in way after us were being called first. I wasn't upset that they called two small children, but when they started calling other people (white), I was getting upset because I wasn't feeling good. I noticed that every time the nurse would come out, she would go through the stack of paper and pull out names, so I went to the front desk and asked what was going on because we had been here since 5:45 PM and people who came in after us are being called in before me. She told me that they had to make sure that beds were available, but still, they were calling people who came after us. So, my husband noticed that I wasn't looking good, and when the nurse came from the back and was going through the papers to pull another name, he told her that I was sick, and we had been sitting for two and a half hours. She told him the physician decided who could be called next. She then called another person who came way after us and looked at me with a big smile. We signed a form to inform them that we no longer need their services and went to Essential. When he arrived at Essential, I had a fever of over 100, and they took good care of me by putting me into a room and giving me some Tylenol. We were there for about 2 hours because I had to do another swab, and they took ex-rays. I have always enjoyed St. Luke's, but now it is time to switch.
Tara L — Google review
My experience at Aspirus St. Luke's was fantastic. There was a surgery that was required. I arrived early in the morning and the team was prompt and had me admitted and into the prep area rather quickly. All the nurses were friendly and helpful for the start and post operation. It was nice to have smiling friendly faces after I awoke from the procedure. It's always interesting to see the bad comments about hospitals. This is a difficult role and my experience was very positive. Five stars plus.
Lawrence T — Google review
I wish I would of read all the bad reviews before I went to this ER. I am from North Carolina just here visiting and knew nothing about the hospitals here. I have a history of blood clots both my feet and legs are swollen. Was told it was bc of the car ride here . So they are swollen even though I have been here for a week? Doesn't even do any test to see if it's another clot or not. Also been going to pee every 10 to 15 minutes for days . Says it's my diabetes. Really it's my diabetes when my numbers are good and my AC 1 is at 6? Sat in the waiting room for hours . Was taken to a room told to put a gown on was still putting it on when the dr walked in . He spent less than 5 minutes with me . What a joke.DR Cameron Johnson you suck.
Stephanie B — Google review
Very frustrating experience here. I went in for a rash that I thought was a tick bite. The staff directed me to the emergency room where I saw a triage nurse and was asked to wait to see a doctor. I was in the waiting room for 2 hours, then waited (in a gown) in another room for another 2 hours. When the doctor finally came in we talked for 5 minutes before he wrote me a script and left. Then I was billed $430 ($1,300 before insurance) While I was waiting I told several nurses and the receptionist that I didn't think I was in the right place, but they assured me I was. I almost walked out and wish I had... Surely this could have been taken care of in a different and less expensive way... surprisingly bad service
Johnny S — Google review
Horrible care and most employees. I went in with what they called a very serious fracture. They did absolutely nothing to fix it. No operation like they said they were going to have to do. Extremely horrible pain management. When trying to talk to them it's like talking to a wall. It's very painfully obvious they simply just do not care. Only good part of my stay was... Well I can't think of anything. Even the rooms are not clean at all. There's also a huge lack of communication between the staff.
Wayne H — Google review
My father-in-law has been sitting in the morgue at St. Luke’s due to Dr. Elizabeth Day’s negligence of promptly signing his death certificate. How does this happen? The funeral home has said they have had more than one issue with this doctor’s promptness. The last thing I want to be doing right now is writing a review and naming an individual.
Brian R — Google review
My parents drove over an hour to ER/UC at main campus, got there at 3 pm and did not get treated until after 11 pm. He is diabetic and elderly. The lobby was not full. He waited over 7 hours to be told he has L pneumonia after quick examination, given a shot of antibiotics and a neb. Over 7 hours sitting with chronic back and knee pain. That is not quality patient care. That is pathetic. He got home at 1am. When talking to hospital staff at the desk about the wait, they just say that they don’t know why it is taking so long. They don’t call back or rely any messages or concerns. Maybe there should be cots in the waiting area or maybe an outside firm should perform Quality Care review as the hospital seems to desperately need guidance.

Nestled in the heart of Duluth, the Kitchi Gammi Club stands as a testament to over a century of social history and architectural grandeur. Established in 1883 during a period of rapid growth for the city, this exclusive private club has long been a gathering place for influential figures and community leaders. The building itself, completed in 1913, showcases stunning Beaux-Arts architecture that reflects the elegance of its era.
A Duluth institution. This is the second time I have rented a room here. My sister is a member so I can stay here too. Prices are comparable to a hotel room. The room is clean and spacious with a balcony overlooking the lakewalk. The central location is fantastic . I haven't eaten here yet. In the past it was very good.
Robin E — Google review
This place is literally a private club. Beautiful woodwork, beautiful rooms. This is where we had a celebration of life for a family member. Only flaw is they ran out of dishes when we were eating. They have the best lemon cheesecake cookies. They were fabulous. The food was good too.
Linda V — Google review
A beautiful building, generous service and incredible history. They took wonderful care of us as we celebrated my parents’ 60th anniversary, having had their wedding reception there in 1964. This club is a true gem that has only improved with time.

I am not a member, but what an amazing preservation of a brilliantly built mansion in the middle of Duluth, Minnesota. I have only been inside one time but I can assure you it was absolutely fascinating. Truly an historic landmark.

A great venue to hold formal events. This is a private members club and can also be rented for events. This building is historic and has a great front deck overlooking lake superior. If you need a place to have your next formal event or wedding, I highly recommend this establishment.
Mike J — Google review
Really bad customer service. Had an event, directed by servers to go upstairs to side bar to get a glass of wine. No bartender there, waited 10 minutes and gave up. Asked the front desk what was going on and they were clueless. Place is run down. And they wonder why their membership is lacking.
Missy M — Google review
Gorgeous building; historic design and handcrafted details rarely found in our time. Much of the furniture and art appear to be original, with tasteful updates dappled throughout. The staff were exemplary, and everything is spotless. Not a hint of dust, not even in the fireplaces. I didn't have much to eat but my party all enjoyed their meals. Highly recommend as a venue, I hope to return. I imagine this space makes a timeless backdrop for weddings.

It's a very well-structured service. Reverend Janine is a fantastic preacher. You'll also get a name tag that you can write on. They also got doughnuts and excellent coffee. My ONLY complaint? I would appreciate some ability to interact with the sermon. Be more engaged. Sure, they have something for the kids. That's great and all. But, what about a post-service Q&A? That would be really cool.

Episcopal church
St. Paul's Episcopal Church is known for its welcoming and inclusive community, with a strong emphasis on youth programs that encourage personal values alongside biblical teachings. The church actively engages with the neighborhood and greater community, fostering dialogue and outreach. It offers a variety of programming opportunities for individuals and families, including music on Sundays and adult education forums on relevant topics. The historic church building, constructed with local basalt, features a large social hall in the basement along with a kitchen.
Our family is so grateful to have found St. Paul’s. They’ve welcomed us with open arms and given us a loving faith community to belong to. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a genuinely warm and welcoming congregation that has a variety of programming opportunities for individuals and families alike.
Katie T — Google review
I switched to this church 15 years ago or so because it was so welcoming, and I have stayed because the community is very strong. Before that, I was a lifelong Lutheran. The youth programs are very strong, well attended, and open ended - meaning kids get to learn their own values, not just the Bible. The confirmation program is fantastic and values-based. St. Paul's also makes a priority of giving back to the community in a variety of ways, including its direct outreach budget, extensive service opportunities, and events that the public can and does attend regularly. The primary message of St. Paul's seems to be that we are all beloved children of God, and that we have a mission to serve those in need. 'All are Welcome' is more than a slogan for us, it is the lived mission as members of a living Christ.
Brad B — Google review
This is a fabulous, welcoming community that has been instrumental in my life and in helping me raise my two daughters. The children's formation program is excellent. My daughter used to call it "fun"day school. I encourage you to visit and see for yourself. Introduce yourself, we love to meet new people!
Leslie B — Google review
On Sundays I enjoy the music and the sense of community this church offers. I especially like the Wednesday evening adult ed forums on a wide range of relevant topics. They welcome people who ask questions and there are no requirements as to what you must believe, just information and support to be a better person.
Carol A — Google review

St. Paul's is a welcoming and inclusive community which dialogues and acts on these values. The church sees itself as a neighbor and thoughtfully reaches out to the neighborhood and the greater community. I appreciate that spiritual questions are encouraged. Recently one of our high school graduating seniors spoke from the pulpit. She shared that her comfort in being encouraged to ask faith questions and being listened to with intention and without judgement, was the cornerstone of her Faith formation at St. Paul's. As a parent and grandparent, it was heartwarming to be present. Diane K

Laodicean theology (the church which thought it had real truth and love, but really had anything but)... A feel-good message is promulgated here which chops out all the hard lessons and truths of Christ and replaces it with a reductionist distillation of the gospel. "Anyone who would seek to come after me should deny himself, and take up his Cross, and follow me."

I'm a raving fan of credit unions, especially Harbor Pointe. They can do more creative things when it comes to loan products, and they're there to help out the average person.
Noah M — Google review
The credit union has great amenities but the tellers are another story. I called to see if I could deposit a check which should’ve been deposited, and after a stressful day it was good news to hear it could be deposited with mobile checking, I was so relieved I started to cry as I thanked her for her help...and she laughed at me. So who ever answered the phone 4:16p 9/10/2020; your customer service needs improvement. Money is stressful and you should treat all your customers with more respect then to laugh and embarrass them. Shame on you.
Sarah D — Google review
I have tried a few local banks and credit unions to find the one I like. This is worse than Wells Fargo. The professionalism is garbage. They pull credit when they're told to wait. Their customer service is trash. I am 2 years ahead on my loan that I have through them with my ATV and have never missed a payment never been late they denied my new application solely on the reasoning that I spoke up about them running my girlfriend's credit when we told them to wait it's no wonder they have 2.7 stars. After they pulled the credit when they were told to wait I immediately stopped banking through them and they will refuse to give you a loan because they are upset that you stopped banking with them and spoke up about them pulling credit they weren't supposed to. Oh well you don't make any money off the interest now

COMPLAINT: Hello, I have been a consistent customer since 2012. I have never had a worse experience from this bank than this year. I need to let you know of several problems presently taking place with your service. I have endured multiple issues regarding HPCU's service. Your staff have been short with me and unwilling to hear my points of criticism and I feel completely out-casted as a long time customer and supporter of this bank. 1. My debit card is constantly bombarded with false flag fraud claims and my card gets locked up way too frequently. This has occurred almost every single time money is deposited into my account. Your reasons for locking my card are frivolous at best. I have been barred from additional purchases because of payments to local shops such as Subway, Savers, Local convenience stores, and previously approved scheduled bills on my account. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. 2. Your audio teller does not work. 3. Your quick check feature does not work. 4. The online login for my online banking account stops working frequently which bars me from checking my balance. 5. Using my debit card has become an anxiety inducing roll of the dice. I have no idea whether it will actually go through at the places I check out. 6. The two day waiting period for cashing checks is the most inconvenient policy I've ever experienced. Why should customers who have used this bank be forced to have their money delayed? Is there no trust in your customers? 7. The minimum balance fee on customer accounts is discriminatory. Because I do not have at least $50 in my account I was charged a fee for cashing a check. This is insult to injury and a blatant attack on people with low income. Please abolish this hateful policy immediately. Please improve your services and customer support. Your performance this year as a company has been drastically below average. 1/10. Bad service, Horrible customer support, multiple unnecessary fees and Broken fraud detection system (Flags local purchases).

Fast, friendly, efficient local community bank. We keep moving boat, vehicle - really any loans we can - over to Harbor Pointe because of the rapid, personal and friendly service. Highly recommend.

Do not get a bank account here! If you do cancel it asap. Awful quality compared to all other banks out there. Amy S is a lier, awful guest service that is the hole reason for me leaving DTCU.
Outdoor E — Google review
This place is a joke..don't ever bank here.customer service does not exist at this place.. they made a mistake with the address with my checks and took no responsibility I felt like I was the blame even though the address was clearly hand written on the form as well..then when I just wanted to close my account they said they would have to charge me a $25 fee..later I deposited a large cashier check and was told that there was a 7 day hold..this bank has no idea how to treat people..I am definitely changing banks when they won't charge me a fee..

We love St Lawrence Church. The times for Mass are great for our family, and between Holy Family and here, there are options for daily Mass and Adoration. Love spending time with Jesus and great community.

About 15 years ago I had lost my faith in God because I felt as though he had left me when I needed him the most. I joined St.Lawrence Church because Father Bill restored my faith in God and I have not and will never lose my way again. Also, the music is so upbeat it makes you feel so alive when singing along with the choir. It's so awesome!!

Religious organization
The First Presbyterian Church of Duluth, designed by Oliver Traphagen and completed in 1891 at a cost of $92,000, stands at an impressive 125 feet tall. Despite having a congregation of 375 individuals, the church was built to accommodate between 1,200 and 1,700 people. The interior is adorned with several Tiffany windows, including one signed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and others crafted by local artist Anne Weston.
It was a great church to grow up in. In the 70's, the main floor and sancuary were full on Sunday mornings. There were good programs for children, teens, and adults. It is a beautiful structure. Many years and wonderful memories.
Cindy M — Google review
The church is magnificent in looks. Tall spires. Plenty of seats...all rows are elevated from the first to the last - improving visibility. The only bad thing was the parking. If you weren't lucky to get a parking spot on 3rd St you might be walking uphill 2 blocks. We discovered, later, that there is a back door in the alley.

Historical landmark
Historic Central High School in Duluth is a stunning Richardsonian Romanesque building constructed in 1892, featuring a 210-foot clock tower and designed by the renowned architectural firm of Palmer, Hall, & Hunt. This imposing structure served as a high school until 1971 and now houses the administrative headquarters of the city school district. Situated on an entire city block, it stands as a testament to Duluth's expansive economic and population growth during its construction.
Charming old Richardsonian style 1890's bld. This was once a prominent High School in Duluth, Minnesota. It was used for office space for decades, now being transformed into apartments with social rooms, game areas, recreational options. It's a magnificent building near the downtown with access to restaurants, movies, Irish pubs, music venues, casino, etc. This should be a fun place to live for anyone that enjoys night life. It's on the bus like as well & walking distance to Lake Superior: Canal Park, beach, shoreline, Lake Walk.

Amazing architecture from the 1800’s being renovated. And to think it was a high school!
R F — Google review
I visited Duluth and was exploring Historic Downtown area, noticing a tall clock tower in the distance. I was intrigued by the structure and decided to take a closer look. Walking around the front of the building, seeing gargoyles at the main entrance which is boarded up, somehow gave me an eerie feeling. I found out this building was once Duluth's Central High School, and sits on the National Register of Historic Places. This massive structure was build in 1892 from locally minded sandstone, featuring a 230-foot clock tower that sounds like Big Ben in London. Duluth does get really cold in the winter and the boilers would burn up to 8 tons of coals per day. The school no longer had classroom instruction as of 1972. There is so much history with this iconic city landmark, and definitely worth a visit.

I grew up and went to school in the Central Hillside neighborhood where the "old" Central high school is located ......I attended Washington Junior H.S. across the street ....In 3 years in jr. high I had a handful of classes in the old Central school....It has always been a beautiful building and is on the National Register of Historic Places ...I live in the Twin Cities now and every time I go back to Duluth I love driving by the beautiful building.

My wife and I started attending this church in early 2019 and since starting here, we haven't looked elsewhere! This body of believers truly has become a part of our family. Theologically solid. Firm on primary beliefs with grace in secondary beliefs. Small groups are an essential part of this church to emphasize personal growth and accountability. Come check it out and say hello!
