Louisiana's Old State Capitol is a unique museum dedicated to the state's political history. This former statehouse, designed in a Gothic Revival style by architect James Harrison Dakin, resembles a medieval fortress with its towers and stained-glass windows. Although it ceased official government functions in 1932, it now welcomes visitors to explore exhibits such as the multimedia presentation on the ghost of Sarah Morgan, a Civil War-era figure.
The architecture of this building was amazing! They had a movie that is a must-see. It really gave you the history. It's only $2, so it's worth it. They have a room that gives the chronologic dates of the state capital. Very informative! They even have the Merci Train car from France out front. That has its own historical significance. Definitely make this a place to visit.
Traveling N — Google review
We absolutely loved our visit to Louisiana’s Old State Capitol! The building is an architectural masterpiece—every inch packed with incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail. The stained glass dome is truly over the top in the best way, casting colorful light across the ornate interior. We were blown away by the intricate woodwork throughout the space, and even the engraved door hinges stood out as tiny works of art. Some of our favorite features included the grand spiral staircase, the unique exterior pocket doors, and the thoughtfully curated exhibits. Highlights for us were the Hall of Presidents, the beautifully preserved 1861 hand-stitched Confederate “First National Flag,” and the delicate 1850 embroidery on display. It’s not just a building—it’s an experience that celebrates history, design, and storytelling. A must-see if you're in Baton Rouge!
Wanderfish — Google review
Beautifully kept up, so much rich history in this building. I loves that you are able to do a self guided tour and take your time with each exhibit. There were two rooms, however, that seemed like they didn't belong there - the one with children's coloring over the walls was just not really fitting, but I understand why it's there - as an activity for kids to do...and the other with random wedding photos on the walls - my understanding is that they are displaying the wedding that have happened there? I honestly wished that it was opened on Sundays because I wanted to go back to the gift shop and purchased something - as they don't sell any of that stuff online.
Gair B — Google review
We had the BEST time here. Our young kids loved all the children’s areas. The exhibits were so well done and the staff was helpful. Great gift shop as well. It is free and a great use of time!
Kristin M — Google review
We had the pleasure of attending/participating in a lovely wedding. The staff was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. It would be wonderful if the groomsmen's waiting area could be more comfortable, and if there were restrooms available upstairs, rather than only on the first floor.
Felicia C — Google review
This was an awesome site. If you are into architecture at all, you'll love taking a tour through this place. The staircase and the atrium ceiling were stunning. We got there late, so we had to kinda skip through it, but feel we got to take most of it in and enjoy it.
Brian D — Google review
So cool, Very small definitely see why they need a new capital. The wood work inside is gothic but very large.. hard to describe Great that it's free!

Helpful and welcoming staff. Quick and simple meusum with small section of historial information past and present. Beautiful mosaic windows and ceiling. Beautiful architecture.

Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) is a museum complex that offers a diverse range of experiences for visitors. The museum features kids' science exhibits, a planetarium, and galleries showcasing the history of art. One of its highlights is the new interactive gallery called The Seed, which provides hands-on activities for children. Additionally, the Pennington Planetarium offers various shows throughout the day, including '3-2-1 Liftoff!' and 'Supermassive Black Holes.'
SO COOL!!!! They had plenty of Egyptian artifacts to look at and learn about. They had an interactive science area with crafts and activities. The Planetarium area had an amazing movie section where yey screen different educational films
Katherine C — Google review
We decided to give this a shot since entry was free for veterans. We were pleasantly surprised. We got to watch a planetarium show on mummies and my kids (5&10) were enthralled with the mummy exhibit and my youngest cannot stop talking about how she got to see a “real life mummy”. We also really enjoyed the kids play area and are now on the hunt for a magnetic marble run wall like they had. I had to peel my son away from it when it was time to go.
Lauralee E — Google review
I had such an incredible time at the art and science museum! 🧪🎨 There was so much to see and learn, I could have spent all day there. 🤩 It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The museum offered so many interactive displays, making it a fun and engaging experience for all ages. Just a heads up, parking is easy to find on the street, but it is metered. Don't forget to pay!
Alfredo O — Google review
I was surprised by how nice the museum was. The number of ancient Egyptian artifacts was stunning and there is even an actual mummy on display. Furthermore, the movie about Egyptian burial practices was both entertaining and informative. We loved it!
George O — Google review
Really cool museum! We brought our 13 month old and one month old and it definitely helped with beating the Louisiana heat! There’s a planetarium that has short movies on the hour. We watched one about space and another about mummies. Both of which were engaging for not only the adults but even our 13 month old was intrigued. Military/Veterans/Fiest responders & family can enjoy for free which is a big plus in my book!
Matt — Google review
We got to explore this museum on the first Sunday of the month and it was Marvelous. I do recommend to get there early to get free parking and it wouldn't be full. Around 3 in the afternoon it got super full but we finished everything around 2-3 hours and we got to see the planetarium shows. The service was perfect, they welcomed us in and were super patient with our questions and they listened.
Yelile T — Google review
We had a great time here with the whole family. My little one LOVED the Sesame Street planetarium show and everyone loved the children’s section. We are looking forward to visiting again when the renovations are done. And I hope the museum will figure out a way to make ticket prices accessible to all!
Rachel S — Google review
Was looking to kill a little time and hoping to learn more about the city and it's historical past. The museum is a converted train station right on the river. I asked the staff at the check in desk for their recommendation on the best way to see the museum and any must sees and they basically just shrugged their shoulders and could not have been less interested in my questions. They handed me a map which did not detail what any of the exhibits were aside from the Egypt one, but was literally just a map of the building; not much help at all. I wandered around and enjoyed the exhibits but there didn't really seem to be any rhyme or reason for what was in each room; there was no cohesion. The planetarium offered a show each hour and while I didn't have an opportunity to take a show in, the attendant at the entrance of the planetarium was very informative and enthusiastic! Next time I will definitely partake. Overall, not a bad value for $15, especially if you're looking to kill a little bit of time (like I was 😉).

Historical landmark
State government office
The Louisiana State Capitol, opened in 1931, replaced the Old State Capitol and is home to the Louisiana State Legislature. Unlike many state capitol buildings with large domes, it rises dramatically from the ground and stands as the tallest building in Baton Rouge. Nicknamed 'Huey Long's Monument,' it reflects art deco architecture from the Gilded Age and features an observation deck on top.
Tallest State Capitol building in the US! This building is more than just the tallest, it’s also full of beautiful art deco architecture features! Hard to fathom this building being built during the Great Depression. It’s worth researching more about Gov/US Senators Huey P. Long before visiting to understand its significance more. No worries if you don’t have the time, it’s worth the visit just to admire the architecture and great views of the Mississippi River. FYI… it’s free to visit and the top is open to walk around outside so it you’re afraid of heights this might not be for you.
Candace M — Google review
It's a great building. There are 49 stairs coming into the building representing the 50 states. The inside doors were all engraved with carvings of the history. This is where former governor Huey Long was shot. There are still bullet holes in the walls. The state senate and legislators meet. On the 27th floor, you are able to see a 360 view of the area. Another must see stop.
Traveling N — Google review
If I was to say I enjoyed the Louisiana State Capitol and Baton Rouge I would be lying. That is a massive understatement. This towering building lies in a garden just next to downtown Baton Rouge with good parking and bus connections. There’s even a secret second lift to levels 24-30 with a viewing platform off level 27 with breathtaking views of downtown Baton Rouge, sugar mills, the airport, Lousiana State University, and much more. If I could go back to Baton Rouge I’d visit here again.
Trainandbus123 — Google review
I have been to all 50 states and all 50 state capitals. This would be towards the middle or higher end of the bottom. 30 stories tall, which is cool. Observation deck on the top, which is cool it just does not feel like a state capital building. It’s an office building. Not a lot of character. Not a lot of beauty. The grounds of the Building are very nice.
Kevin S — Google review
The Louisiana State Capitol marks our 12th statehouse visit, and so far, it ranks as one of our favorites. While the exterior didn’t exactly wow me—though that’s probably just personal preference, since I’m not a huge fan of the high-rise style Capitol buildings—we found plenty to appreciate once we stepped inside. One of our favorite exterior features was the grand staircase leading up to the entrance, with each step engraved with the name of a U.S. state in the order it joined the Union. It’s a small but very cool detail that connects the Capitol to the broader story of the country. Another standout feature on the grounds is the gravesite of Huey P. Long. He’s actually buried upright, facing the Capitol building—a bold and fascinating tribute. I won’t spoil the details here, because it’s much better to learn more about his story for yourself, either by doing a little reading or, even better, taking the official tour. Inside, the Capitol is absolutely stunning. The artwork, architecture, and numerous monuments and memorials throughout really help bring both the building and Louisiana’s complex history to life. If you can, definitely take the guided tour—ours was led by one of the best guides we’ve had on this whole Capitol bucket list quest. Whether you go the self-guided route or join the tour, this is a statehouse worth visiting. And don’t forget to take in the views from the observation deck at the top—they’re not to be missed!
Wanderfish — Google review
To say we enjoyed our visit to the Louisiana State Capitol is an understatement. This is one awesome building. The tallest of all the state capitols. The inside is impressive to see the House and Senate chambers. Then for FREE, you can take the elevator to the 28th floor observation deck. The view from there is remarkable. You can see for miles and miles. This marks my 24th in my quest to visit all 50.
Brian D — Google review
Amazing exterior and friendly visitor center. The first floor stood out, but the rest of the building didn’t quite live up to the start. The historic elevator ride to the top was the highlight.
Charlie P — Google review
This beautiful national monument is free of charge to also o the observation deck, is free . The car parking is too, which is truly nice. You need to take two lifts, one up to 24th and 24th to 27th. There is also a souvenir shop, visitors log book, and beautiful view of 36 degree view. It's fascinating and stunning observatory view of Louisiana.

Nestled just south of the museum, BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is a haven for nature enthusiasts. This expansive facility was established in 1997 to preserve the sprawling swamp and now features live animal exhibits, mineral displays, and photo exhibits showcasing the park's diverse flora and fauna. Visitors can explore scenic swamps, wetlands, and forests teeming with wildlife such as alligators, armadillos, otters, snakes, turtles, and more.
This is a great area to go for a walk. We enjoyed it and may only complain that they didn’t have longer trails. A great shady walk in the swamp. So many species of birds! We saw turtles, rabbits, squirrels and then in the nature center saw snakes and so on. There was a nice picnic pavilion and benches along the walk ways. There is a little gift shop and clean restrooms.
Beth R — Google review
I truly enjoyed my nature walk and seeing the animals inside the museum. It’s good to know the only animals roaming around are squirrels, birds, lizards and rabbits that I saw in my walk. It was very peaceful
Tonya C — Google review
Nice trails, very well maintained and spacious. When you park, walk down the trail that has a sign that says conservation area. You will follow a board walk to the building and that’s where the admission fee can be taken care of. It’s 3 bucks for adults. And they have a few reptiles in there. They also have bird feeders and nest boxes set up near or right across from benches for photographers. I liked that a lot. Great place to take your family for a hike. I prefer more secluded off the beaten path hikes myself, but I’d come back here.
Sevenn M — Google review
It is a beautiful place to walk and relax with the birds singing and if you are lucky you can see some other animals that live there 😍 you can feed the turtles and they have a visitor center where you can admire some snakes, I loved this place.
Evolet M — Google review
I had a great time connecting back to nature here. The scenery was very beautiful and clean. It was peaceful and its always a pleasure to hear the sounds of nature.
Elietta M — Google review
We did the $5 tour as a homeschool field trip. Definitely worth the money. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the grounds are beautiful
Clair B — Google review
BREC believes they can close a swamp, lol! WRONG! You can't close outside! That's just silly! Closing it would make it then become "inside" simultaneously making it no longer "outside" and the attempt would only prove to be successful erasing the part of outside from existence. But enough of all that, look at my stick bug friend and his spider buddy!
Colin ( — Google review
Nice family nature walk through the swamp. Was nice to see the wildlife inside the centre.. got to see a baby alligator and a cotton mouth snake. While walking around the swamp we only got glimpse of rabbits and squirrels. Maybe it was the time of year but we will definitely be back and visit again next time we come to Louisiana

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of southern Louisiana at Magnolia Mound. This 1700s plantation home showcases restored French Creole architecture and offers guided tours by costumed interpreters. The site is a rare example of vernacular architecture influenced by early French and West Indian settlers, making it a vital part of the community.
If you want to know about history, this is a good place. The tour is super detailed. Loved 100%recommend
Denise P — Google review
Interesting museum from the Plantation Era. It is conveniently located, though the entrance is a little tricky to see from Nicholson Drive. The property is attractive and the buildings well maintained. We had a couple of staff members cover the tour, and both were excellent. The main house is relatively modestly sized. The decor is from the period, but not necessarily from this family. They did a good job of covering the perspective of the enslaved people.
Don L — Google review
This is one of the best plantations in Baton Rouge as it’s big trees, and spacious houses are a true historical landmark in the city of Baton Rouge. I came here for free on the first Sunday of the month, most of the time they have tours that cost money but it’s an overall good experience. If you like history and big houses this is the place for you.
The S — Google review
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience! The tour guide was amazing and gave us so much detail while still making it enjoyable and fun! It was not busy so we got a personal one on one with our tour guide! The gift shop was also great! I’ve been going to college here for 5 years and never even knew this place excited! It’s definitely worth checking out by yourself or with friends and family! ** Please note that there is a difference between self guided and tour guided!! You can’t enter the home without a tour guide! We chose to go with a tour guide. **
Haley F — Google review
Really good tour!! If you love history like we do, you will love this place.
David W — Google review
I did the self guided tour for the kids & I. It was five dollars per person, you got a map that had markers that showed where everything on the grounds were located. The lady in the gift shop was very welcoming & also gave me some suggestions on other things to do since I told her I wasn't from around here. It's always interesting to me to see our history & to drop a little unknown knowledge on the kids. If you're in the area stop by no reservations needed. Guided tours are every 45 minutes, I believe that's what was stated.
Mendel J — Google review
We visited Magnolia Mound Plantation on a weekend in June, 2023. We decided to take a guided took, because we feel you get so much more out of it. Although we had to wait a bit since they only do the tours on the hour. So we walked around a bit before an took some pictures. Then we gathered with others to take the tour or the house and kitchen. It lasted an hour and was informative. We were able to get an insight into life back then. The tour told us and showed us things we would have missed if we went it alone. We could ask questions and such. I felt it was a good time spent. I would recommend visiting, but definitely take the guided tour. The visitors center has a nice gift shop with actual decent items. The have rest rooms and a model display of the plantation back in the day. The price ran between $9-12 per adult. So it wasn't overly expensive either. And they give you a nice little fan with the map of the plantation on it. So you can stay cool and have a map all in one item. Then take it with you for use later. Such a deal:)
Sponge B — Google review
The place has a great atmosphere. It's a pity that you can't enter the house without a guide. We declined it because our English proficiency is weak. The entrance fee is symbolic, but there aren't many exhibits. The main highlight is the owners' house, which has restricted access

The Red Stick Farmers Market in Baton Rouge offers a vibrant and diverse selection of locally sourced products from over 50 booths, including seasonal fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meats, eggs, cheese, wine, breads and sweets. This dynamic marketplace has expanded to three times a week in multiple locations after 20 years of operation.
SPECTACULAR!☆☆☆☆☆ Every weekend for 22 years is what one of the farmers related to me. Fresh, Fresh, Fresh, Happy & Invigorating! This is a part of my Hometown and Downtown Baton Rouge (Red Stick). It looks like a smaller version of Ponce City Market (the Old Sears Store) in Historic Fourth Ward near the Beltline. Great presentation, event, and vendors (children and young adults were involved as well). I'm so happy and inspired. Thanks River City Planners and Citizens.
Aktn M — Google review
This was a solid little farmer's market w/ quite a few interesting booths selling interesting items. We purchased rum, muscadine wine, bread, and salsa. There were quite a few booths selling meat products of various origins but since neither of us partake of meat; our options were limited.
George O — Google review
Was a good visit with fresh items. Picked up some nice healthy plants as well as fresh veggies. Friendly service.
Bob O — Google review
Love, love, LOVE the Red Stick farmer's market. One of the Saturday vendors sells a fresh cooked breakfast. 🍳🥓. The prices and quality of everything sold here is top notch. 🥩🥦🥪🍓🍞🍧🥒🥕. Try Cutters meat. Especially Paw Paw Gaylons sausage! You will never buy anything else!!
Cindy ( — Google review
I enjoyed my visit to Red Stick Farmer's Market. I got there late in the morning and there wasn't a whole lot in the way of produce. However, there were vendors with artisan cheeses, breads, teas, coffees, cakes, jams/jellies/preserves and baked goods. Everything from microgreens to fresh seafood to hand made butter! The area was clean, vendors were polite and have great personal stories about their items and businesses. BUY LOCAL!
Jonathan — Google review
Great choice of plants and veggies. Ponchatoula strawberries are soooo sweet. Lots of leafy veggies plus the normal vendors selling meat, breads, eggs, and other great foods. And the 🍄 farm products are fabulous.
Debbie Q — Google review
We ride our bikes there almost every Saturday to buy produce, eggs, meats, and sometimes plants for our garden. Plus it is right around the corner from Matherne's, so we can pick up whatever else we may need for the week in one trip!

With 13,000 square feet divided into fourteen galleries, guests can explore diverse exhibitions featuring American and European paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and photography.
I came on a Saturday to visit the museum, and I am so glad I did. It was not busy at all. The rooms flowed well and I liked all of it. My favorites were the Clementine works as they left an odd aching feeling in my heart. The space station exhibit was nice as well. All of it was well worth seeing. I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Beautifully maintained collection of art with descriptive texts located at the 5th floor. It is free for the LSU affiliated people and $5.50 for others to enter. Currently covers a collection of silverware and ceramics, portraits, and contemporary arts, among others. Great place to spend your weekends exploring.

I knew that I would be visiting Baton Rouge so what I did is I went on groupon and searched things to do in Baton Rouge. I was able to find the Groupon for LSU museum. I really didn't know what to expect but they met my expectations. My daughter and I literally really enjoyed it. The price was so affordable that I paid. It was around $5 for the both of us. There was a lot of nice artwork in the museum and the people there were really nice and friendly they even have a gift shop attached. I loved how my daughter and I got to bond during that visit to LSU museum today. #Makingmemoriestogether💕💕💕🥰

Mike the Tiger's Habitat is an impressive on-campus enclosure at Louisiana State University, home to the live mascot, Mike the Tiger. The Italianate-style habitat features a manmade pond and lush landscaping, creating a picturesque environment for the majestic Bengal tiger. Visitors can observe Mike as he prowls, plays, and eats while learning about his historical connection to the university through exhibits, photos, and videos.
Wow, I finally made the pilgrimage to see Mike the Tiger. I wish I had it that good. Mike was just relaxing and chilling, getting ready for the game on Saturday when we visited. So, no action shots this visit. Fun, visit. It was nice to finally see him. I lived in LA for 40 years and just never made it before now. They really do spoil him for being a captive wild tiger. That enclosure is HUGE, and the newer tree and comfort rock? The wife and I were joking that we wish we lived (comparatively) soo good!!!

My wife and I stopped by the LSU campus and had a great time checking out Mike the Tiger. His enclosure is huge and really clean—it’s obvious they take great care of him. Mike was being super playful and active, which made it even more fun to watch. We were there for a while just enjoying the sight of him roaming around. If you're ever on campus, definitely swing by to see Mike. It’s a cool experience, and you can tell he’s well taken care of!

No tickets needed. Saw Mike 3 days on our 7 day stay! He is absolutely beautiful!! If you are in the area definitely go see him! Recommend early in the morning at around 8:30am when it's not so hot on him! We got to watch him swim and walk around alot!

I LOVE Mike! Every time I am in Baton Rouge I visit him everyday. His enclosure is well put together and I love the rock that heats in the winter and cools in the summer. His habitat is always clean and he seems to be a well taken care of tiger!

Found out about Mike when we were planning our recent road trip and made sure to stop by here. We were so happy to meet him and he was very active and entertaining at the time. We wish for his well being and happy campus life. As for parking, we parked at a visitor parking across from the habitat and it was flat rate ($5.35) on the day of our visit. We thought we met Mike VI but we learned that he is Mike VII according to the LSU website.

Mike is amazing. Even if you aren’t an LSU fan, be sure to stop by. Sometimes he hides and other times he’s up for giving a show.

Very green and relaxing place. It is open from dawn till dusk, and the office/gift shop is only open normal hours (like a 9-5). There are turtles in the pond, if you go up to the deck and look over, that will come to you. There are a bunch of interesting trees and a few flowers. It’s very earthy and smells fresh. There are multiple paths in, and not a hard closing time, so if you are concerned just park outside the gate. There are bees in the far back past the hill near magnolia trees, and lots of insects and birds. Check the office when you go, as this place is a venue for people to use and could be closed. Overall, very relaxing.

Was a beautiful walk and loved seeing the flowers. It is small and I do wish there was more flowers but what was there was nice. Would make a great spot for a small intimate wedding. There is a geocache that we found and it made for a fun scavenger hunt for us. Will be back with my cameras next time to get some more pictures!

Cute little place. I kind of expected it to be a little bigger but that was my mistake. Beautiful place for a short morning walk. Very quiet and Serene. Just the sound of the gravel path underneath your feet. I will say that the cantilever wouldn't deck around the Little pond is a little unnerving and feels a little unstable but I made it safely.

Big enough and informative museum! Overwhelmed with their collections of all Louisiana-native wild lives. Decent interactions, too. And they’re free!

Only giving it 4 stars because it was lacking a gift shop & I really am a sucker for souvenirs - I've been to a lot of natural history museums and this one was definitely the smallest but had an interesting collection nonetheless - took us about 30 minutes to go thru everything - no fee for entrance (at least there was no one at the front & we had the whole place to ourselves!) & all on the first floor

Water & Amusement Parks
Dixie Landin' Theme Park, also known as Blue Bayou Water Park, is a thrilling all-ages destination located just a short drive southeast of Baton Rouge. The park offers an array of heart-pounding adventures, including the world's largest water slides such as the 7-story High Water Slide and the 8-story Ragin' Cajun.
Taking my kids and my mom on a mini vacation to start the summer break, and we ended up at this theme park/waterpark. Unfortunately only the theme park part was open, not the water park-which is what we originally came for. However, we had such a great time! The theme park was just as fun , and they did have the splinter ride open which included water so we were able to cool off with that ride. My kids rage from 2-16 and all kids were able to ride multiple rides, they offer a variety of size rides for the little kids too! The employees were so nice and accommodating! Every worker we came in contact with was so very nice and helpful! A little short staffed- which may be because we came right when they opened-but employees were running multiple rides at a time, which i feel like they handled very well! If we walked up to a ride and the operator was at another ride, they were sure to recognize we were waiting and acknowledge we were waiting and to say "we will be right with you"- . No long wait for a ride, and multiple to choose from. My kids already want to go back so we definitely will return!
Taylor C — Google review
My wife and I took our children and grandchildren here for the 4th of July. Wheat early enjoyed it. My wife spent most of her time in the lazy river and the wave pool which she loved. I rode some of the rides with our children and grandchildren. They were a lot of fun! We had hot dogs and hamburgers at one of the cantina's. They were pretty good. I'm sure we will be going back next year.
Chris J — Google review
Really 1.5 stars but that’s no an option. Half the rides work, and extremely overpriced tickets. For a family of 5 it’ll cost about 300$ just to get in. That excluding food lockers and concessions. There are also rumors that the owner is closing the park permanently, but at the time of this post, it is still under debate. The positive things about this park is the rides are fun, some also look 28 years old. But nonetheless, this is a fun theme/water park.
Jayden T — Google review
Great water park, lots to do, fun for all ages. I went opening day this year, credit card machine was down but they got us through! Only recommendation is that they put some cover over the eye bolts sticking out of the ground in the first sled slide area. Food lines could use some assistance.
Matthew G — Google review
We Love our weekly trip to Blue Bayou!!! They are very accommodating and allow us to bring in fruit and veggies for us to have healthy snacks too! They have plenty of places to have lunch at and they staff are very friendly. I do wish that they had more bathrooms at the front of the park but that’s ok. My kid loves the rides and even said that he enjoys them almost as much as Disney rides;) the park is Very clean. The water is clean.
Amanda O — Google review
Pretty big water park. The lazy river is a little too shallow. You can only go around once with the park provided tubes. And you have to ride in/on the tube. No free swimmers. The wave pool was being worked on and closed. It had some nasty brown stuff all in the shallow end and some workers were trying to suck some stuff out of the deep end. That’s kind of a disappointment. We came down from Jackson, MS with a Girl Scout troop. No way to get your group inside until all are there. Seems like you could have some sort of will call to help speed this part along. We read the lemonade was good so we got some. And yes it’s good. Cost 4 tickets (4 dollars). But seems reasonable for park food.
Dave T — Google review
Most of the attractions were close so we got a small discount. The kids part was fun. It sucks you can only go around the lazy river once unless you purchase a floater. Which they were out.
Krystal G — Google review
Wow! First day this season and I’m completely impressed. Every slide is open. Staff everywhere. Fresh paint on most areas. Food is good. Especially the chicken tenders! ❤️! I’ve been coming yearly since Covid and this is the best year yet! Great job, Blue Bayou!

My daughter and her friends (all over the age of 18) just arrived to have a picnic. There is only about 10 of them. They wanted to get together as friends and eat, kick around a soccer ball too. They just arrived and got kicked out of the park. Why is this??? Isn’t this a public park where you are allowed to gather for a couple of hours with friends to have picnic and play?? They are not unruly teenagers and they didn’t even give them grace to share time together. Why don’t you want young adults spending some time outdoors together in a safe area of Baton Rouge??? When I moved to city 4 years ago I didn’t realize parks were off limits. Do better EBR parks, we all pay taxes you keep those areas so let people enjoy them as needed .

While I love BREC and the parks and have been sending my son to Afterschool Adventures since 2021, things changed recently. A new person took over the program at Antioch Park and has utterly ruined it. Instead of kids getting to burn off some energy after spending an entire day sitting at a desk in school, they are forced to sit at a table and be quite. This should be a time for them to play and socialize and for their minds to get a rest.

I called the main office and recieved a return call from one of the local supervisors. she told me these issues have been dealt with and she couldn't give me information on other children. apparently 3 other mothers from the fb group have called as well. Photos from Christmas 2018 but the area is still shown. We did a church outreach function down there the other day and it was nice out. A little chilly with the wind coming off of the river but the sun was out and it wasn't muddy. A great winter day for Louisiana. The construction seems mostly done down around the Rivercenter...just with there was more bathroom access. We ended up using the Library's facilities up the hill.

My family have been residents of the area for more than 25 years. I have seen this area go from United States Air Force Depot 2 a FEMA trash collection site to the facility that it is now. The Reformation of it over the last few years has been beautiful. Today my youngest grandson and I enjoyed 4 hours at the facility. We only played on the playground equipment, the bike path, and did a little fishing. We did not utilize any of the Interior facilities, but we had a great time. I think it's great that b r e c has provided an area like this for this community. Thank you. Please don't dump all the trash next door anymore. I'm sure we can find another site to do that. Thank you again!

This was a last minute trip due to inclement weather so we were scrapping for field trips. I called around 9 am today to let front office know that we’re coming and if they would let us in. When we arrived the woman in the front was already extremely rude interrogating us with questions when we just need an area for our kids to play in. Do I went inside to discuss with the woman in charge and she did not make things any better. She told us another group was coming and that she couldn’t let us in.

I love this playground!!!!!!! It’s a great day for flying a kite in a beautiful space and the swing and the slides are fun for all the kids to play safely.

Park
Blackwater Conservation Area, located on the east bank of the Comite River, was once a gravel mine that has been transformed into a stunning 57.5-acre preserve. Opened to the public in 2002, this rehabilitated site features restored wetlands and native forests with diverse tree species such as oaks, pines, bald cypress, cottonwood, and more.
Another fantastic BREC park. Very well maintained gravel trails that were flat and easy to navigate. Ample places to fish off a personal sized fishing dock (if that’s your thing) or use it as a seat to watch all the bird and insect life surrounding you at this beautiful park. Don’t forget to walk down to the river and dip your toes in the water.

An impressive view, many trees that provide shade and for fishing. A pleasant walk

Beautiful trail just wish there were more markers
Jordan W — Google review
This is the perfect place to walk your pet/have a picnic. You can see a lot of people fishing as you walk around, since Blackwater is near the Comite river. Please be sure to pick-up after yourself! You can find beer bottles/trash near the water, but there are workers that drive around cleaning as much as they can.
Kamil W — Google review
Beautiful nature walk. Fishing available.
Tronell T — Google review
I loved the view and cleaniess but the pier fishing is risky. You may want to bring protection. I heard that there were car burglaries here, amongst other things. Catching fish is not here, they're always sleep or on a date. Not one person caught a fish.
Niki W — Google review
A great pond to walk and fish with bathroom facilities. The trail that goes down to the pod is rocked to make it easy to walk down and sufficient for my bike to handle a little ride. Plenty of piers to go fish off of so you’re not crowded. It looks to be kept up as I didn’t see a lot of trash on the ground which says a lot. Definitely a place to sped a little time to fish or just walk if you’re up to it.
Janos I — Google review
Overall its a nice park. There isn’t a lot of parking but normally it’s not full anyway. there are a few ponds but only one isn’t overgrown. It has spots to fish but not exactly the best fishing since its fished so much, yet the chance is there. The ponds to the south of the grounds are mainly shallow beaver and other wildlife habitats so it is good for a nature walk especially if you go a little off trail in those areas. If you want to catch some fish You may actually fair better fishing the Comite River close to the bridge. And yes you can acess the river by going into the back heading westward on the northern trail. If you take the northern trail westward It will take you all the way to the back of the park to the Comite River. There you can go swimming in the river if you’re into that. It’s not deep and relatively good for younger kids with supervision as long as the River isn’t high. There is a rocky sandy beach to setup at although it can get a little full at times but mostly not too bad. It does change from time to time with more or less beach area. The people are generally nice and keep to themselves but it being public anything can happen so just a heads up. Outside of that its not a bad place but in general do not bring valuables and leave them in your car especially visible for people to see. Thats not just this park but almost everywhere, a little tip for those a little sheltered. If they look in and don’t see anything tempting then they are probably going to move on. So with that enjoy as it is a good place to get some fresh air.

After Five The Tuxedo Company is a men's boutique in Baton Rouge that offers a wide selection of designer tuxedos and accessories such as vests, cufflinks, and shoes. The shop has received praise for its excellent service and high-quality products, making it a popular choice for weddings and events. Additionally, the store is known for its knowledgeable and helpful staff.
The salesman went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied for the big night. This will be our tuxedo spot for ever/ whenever.

These people want to charge an arm and a leg but don't want to answer my call behind a busted pant clip before the wedding even started. I call Saturday before the wedding, no answer, Monday my brother asked for someone to call me back, they close Tuesday. Its now Wednesday, I have called 4 times, still nothing. I don't recommend.
Tanner G — Google review
Being closed on Sundays is not the smartest business model. As most weddings and events occur on Saturdays, and many people rent from out of town. At the very least, there should be limited availability for returns.
Jacob E — Google review
Had nothing short of a great experience renting from After Five. Had a wedding in Ohio to attend and they were ultimately flexible with fitting, pick up and drop off of the tuxedo. Would definitely use them again for a formal event
Kimberly S — Google review
We are so glad that we booked with After Five for our wedding. The tuxedos looked sharp and the service provided by Cody and his staff was excellent. All of the wedding party agreed that the quality of their product, service, and prices were top notch. Communication was very easy and the FREE getaway car with rental of 10 tuxedos was an added plus! We highly recommend After Five for any wedding or event you may have!
Rachel S — Google review
Terrible. Rent you a tux and want it back the next morning. Had the tux back Monday morning and they charged $40. Then when I told them I was not told the return time they offered to take $40 away from the groom to refund me. Terrible service. Will never go back.

After 5 was one of the most pleasant experiences of our entire wedding. They were incredibly easy to work with and always on top of everything. They went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly for our big day and I cant thank them enough!
Kristin G — Google review
Not recommended. We will never come back. We used this company for my son's wedding. Not a good experience at all. We had to pick up the suits on Dec 21st because they had a company wedding in Utah. They were closed from the Dec 22nd to the 3rd. My son's wedding was on January 1st. We asked multiple times including going back in before we left to specifically ask about my son's suit. We actually had paid for. We were told we had everything. Our mistake was that we took them at their word. My son's suit was NOT with the others. We did not realize this until we were distributing the suits to all of the groomsmen the night before the wedding. Only by chance did the makeup artist know someone to get in touch with the next morning. We were able to meet the book keeper who opened up the store allowing us to find my son's suit. It did not however prevent the strife and tension on a day that should have been perfect. They didn't even offer a partial refund or anything for compensation. Not even a free future rental or anything. Very disappointing. Now on to my suit. It was probably the worst fitting suit I have ever worn. I was fitted and everything was OK. What was given to us was not the size I had tried on. Shirt was a little snug but the vest was a size too small and could barely be buttoned. Made for a very uncomfortable day. Fortunately the coat fit better because I had to wear it the entire time to cover up how bad the vest looked. Instead of dancing and enjoying my son's wedding I just sat and talked because I was too uncomfortable to move. In the future we will have to look to the other options available.

On the positive side, you can come here and enjoy the day. Lots of food options and other vendors, prices are high though. On the BIG negative side is that this is called the BLUES Festival and every year, they just give you a hint of blues. I'm not saying the other bands and singers are bad, but if you call it Blues Festival, people want to hear lots of it, and just a hint of the other music. The 2 stars are for the organizing board.

Definitely coming here again. A relaxed vibe with a variety of acts. It's downtown and do you're not isolated. Good was great, we had corn dogs, hot dogs and crawfish beignets.

It was a fun, clean family day. I appreciate the preformers and vendors showing up even with the iffy weather. It was an enjoyable day. I do wish there was a way to stop or prevent those walking through the crowds trying to sell items. The vendors have paid for the "priviledge" to sell. It is not right for these others to take advantage of the unpoliced situation and making those in the crowd uncomfortable.

The LSU Student Health Center offers a range of services for students, including mental health care, lab work, vaccinations, and flu shots. Visitors have praised the respectful and helpful nature of the doctors and professionals at the center. Many appreciate the inclusion of mental health care in tuition fees and have had positive experiences with therapists. However, some mixed reviews exist regarding experiences with psychiatrists. The center's services are either free or available at low cost for full-time students.
I always have an excellent experience at the Student Health Center. The doctors and professionals there are respectful and helpful. I'm someone who gets anxious over even the smallest health issues, but they always listen to my concerns with care, and come up with an appropriate care plan for me. What I like the most about the people is that they welcome you whenever you go. It's never a dread when you think you are going to visit the SHC. For the last four years, I have developed a great relationship with the physicians and psychiatrists there, and the Health Center is one the places I will miss a lot once I leave after graduation. 5 STARS.
Delilah K — Google review
I went to the clinic for medical reasons. The staff was nice but they were having problems with my insurance that I didn’t know about.During check in I was told that my insurance went through and that I didn’t have a remaining balance.A month goes by and now they are telling me I need to pay $300 +. I had to file a claim with my insurance and it has been fixed but at this point I should’ve just went to urgent care because I didn’t have this problem with them at all.
Puppy G — Google review
Do NOT recommend. My son went in with flu-like symptoms and the NP there did not thoroughly examine him, nor swab him. He was in and out in 5 minutes. What a disgrace! $250 to have my son know his weight and blood pressure.
Sammy — Google review
They don’t answer the phone it’s hard to reach someone when you are an out of state parent calling to resolve issues. I have turned in my daughter’s paper work a few times and they finally entered it in after weeks of saying I never turned it in.
Olu O — Google review
If I could give them zero stars, I would. This place is a joke. Today I went for a COVID test, and I was made to wait outside. I finally left after an hour of no communication. They don't even pick up calls on the number they posted outside. It's a completely dehumanizing experience. And they have the audacity to talk about mental health. Maybe start off with treating people who come to your clinic with a bit more humanity? And this is not the first time it has happened. Back in 2019 when I had an extremely bad case of flu, I went to see the doctor. They kept me waiting for over an hour. I could hardly hold my head up, so I asked if I could lie down anywhere. They only told me that we don't have that facility and I have to wait for a doctor to see me. They also fine you if you are late. And if they take forever, then it's of no issue. Hypocrisy, much? Is this even a medical facility? I hope no one has to go there. Ever!
Sudip S — Google review
Specifically rating their mental health services. Basically as long as your not gonna harm yourself or others or know of someone who will then they ship you off. You’ll bring up serious issues and that you think you might be out of your depression but don’t know then they won’t touch on it at all and send you to CAS. The fact that y’all are qualified is the sickest joke this university has made and your lack of proper mental health services will drive people deeper into depression rather than actually help. Hire some therapists who actually have an ounce of empathy.
Connor M — Google review
The GYN clinic staff are always amazing and welcoming, but the office staff at the main check-in are rude. The check-in process and signage telling you where to go is already ridiculous and confusing, and they make it more complicated by acting frustrated and being unhelpful. This review won’t matter since LSU doesn’t actually care, but 🤷🏻‍♀️
Maddie A — Google review
If I could give 0 stars I would because they didn’t help me at all and when I was trying to check in the lady behind the desk was rude and looked at me like I was crazy because I was having chest pains and felt nauseous. There’s a complete lack of care and empathy for the students of LSU from the health clinic and if you ever need medical care go to the urgent care on 4460 Perkins rd. Because they will take care of you and you can set up appointments easily through the app. If you have a cold you can get a steroid shot to help you feel better, they take Tricare insurance and Medicare. They educate you on your illness and how to best recover and show empathy like we’re they’re own children. Beautiful rooms and great comfortability.

Staff could not have been more pleasant. Wine menu was extensive with solid selections. Our mains were well made with fresh ingredients, unique flavors, and the menu took great care to provide top-notch options for vegans and gluten intolerant folks. While I’m not vegan, the chocolate vegan ice cream was incredibly decadent and delicious. The website pictures made me think seating was communal; it is not. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hands-down the best ribeye we’ve ever had! Cocha absolutely blew us away. My husband and I stopped in for dinner and ordered the ribeye steaks with leek purée, mushrooms, and asparagus—and let me tell you, we’re still talking about it! Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. That leek purée deserves its own fan club. We got the yellowfin tuna & rice as an app and it was spicy and delicious! The service was just as incredible as the food. Jess was our server and she was phenomenal—warm, attentive, and super knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. She made the entire experience even better. We sat out front, which was such a cozy and relaxing spot. The vibe was peaceful and inviting, and since we were staying within walking distance, we got to enjoy a lovely stroll to and from the restaurant. The cocktails? Also a 10/10. Cocha is the whole package: food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. If you’re in Baton Rouge, this place is a must. Five stars all the way! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We went for brunch and it was wonderful. We sat outside because it was a nice day, they had live music inside that they were piping to the outdoor seating. Our waitress was very well informed and also patient as we tried to narrow down the menu. I was very happy with my decision but will be back soon to try more of their creations!

Gorgeous space, interesting menu choices, stellar service. We went for brunch on a Saturday around 11:30 and there was no wait, only maybe three other tables were sat. I got a Thai julep that was bright and refreshing, my partner got some sour beer on draft that he liked. I got the Japanese patatas bravas, everything about the dish was incredible but the brisket was waaaay overcooked. It was dry like jerky, which was disappointing. The potatoes and egg and kewpie mayo more than made up for that, though. My partner got the pork belly sliders and THOSE were absolute perfection. Phenomenal bite. We would definitely go back for dinner or a weekday lunch.

They made it so easy to reserve for my party size and the service was amazing!

Stopped in for dinner....didn't know it was wine tasting event night but they found us a table in the back. Dinner was excellent but it was a bit pricey (to be fair, I ordered a rib-eye steak - an off-menu offering). Cocktails are also a bit spendy but, to be fair, were very well done. Shout out to Bert for putting up with us out-of-towners!

The restaurant is really cool and has great food, but I have given service 4 stars since it took about 2 hours to get our main entree last Friday! The oven went out and place was slammed. Also, we ordered steaks as a special. They were great; however, my 5oz filet was $40 and my husband’s 15 oz ribeye was an eye popping $75! I think the waiter should have warned us as it wasn’t written on the menu. Just sayin’.

The museum displays are informative and I felt worth the price of admission. It's unfortunate that the botanical gardens are so close to highway traffic but the plants and flowers seemed well cared for. There were plenty blooming but I'd like to return at an earlier spring date, which I imagine would be very impressive. Thanks again to the staff member who answered my questions although I had unwittingly entered the admin building rather than a welcome center!

A great place to understand the history of Louisiana, slavery, agriculture and how this country is built on the shoulders of slaves. I cannot unsee what I saw in this museum. Make sure you have enough time to see everything and read the text. I appreciate the fact that despite this cruel history, they have a good and clear demonstration of the past. It's bitter but it should be recognized. I need to go back again to learn more. They have a beautiful hiking trail which is mostly shaded. Ugh I hate that I have to revise my 5 star review of this place but after this past Mother’s Day I feel it’s important to share. Around 1:30pm my boyfriend and I parked my car at the dog park and brought my dog inside the play area. We were there for less than a hour. It was sunny and many people were out. When we went to leave we saw my passenger front window had been shattered. My purse was stolen. We weren’t the only ones. The car a space over from mine had their front drivers side window busted and the owners purse was stolen. This was in broad day light. Do not leave anything valuable in your car if you decide to go to this place. I’m sad to even write this because the dog owners and dogs here are wonderful people.

This is a very pretty partial park. Most of it is to the side of the streets and to the sides of the golf course that runs in the middle of it. This is a park more so for anyone looking to walk their pets, go golfing, play tennis or go to the art gallery. When the art gallery is open. The Map directions might send you to the area of the park where you can't park or it's hard to get by. Just look at the actual spot of the park in the maps and follow the road there. The parking was located by the golfing area when I visited.

Park
Veteran's Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a serene and respectful location that honors the sacrifices of service members. Situated near the historic Old Arsenal Museum, it offers a peaceful atmosphere with well-maintained landscapes and commemorative features. The park provides walking paths, benches for contemplation, and picturesque views of Capitol Lake. It's an ideal spot for a romantic stroll or a relaxing picnic.
Beautiful tribute to our nations veterans. Many displays, great views and very pretty garden area. There is a small hill with canons overlooking a lake which also provides a nice overview of the park. The park is large and you could really spend some time there.

Drive around slowly in your car, but stop by the great lake and take a walk to appreciate the trees, birds and views. Have a picnic there. The only downside is the distant noise of cars.

Updated review: Lots of benches to sit on. A lot of statues and the Liberty Bell replica is here. Nice park right near the capitol buildings. Lovely pond. Peaceful spot.

First time visiting and didn't get to see it all but pretty nice. Good history to read about

Small cozy and tranquil place. I liked their bronze George Washington's bust and memorial dedicated to Spanish troops which captured Baton Rouge from British in 1779. Didn't like that memorial was built on top of Indian ceremonial mount. From the other side it is such a crowd of cultures -- British, Spanish, Indians all together finally became Louisianans with a pinch of Canadians and some Africans.

What an incredibly beautiful park! While I was there wedding photos were being taken as well as some other photo shoot with models. The trees are old, lush, and large and the flowers are vibrant. I would love to see it in the Summer! Absolutely stunning! A must see! My pictures don't do it justice at all! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Love the experience, is a very peaceful place, a beautiful sanctuary to remember those who gave it all. I truly recommend the visit.

Very nice park to take a walk in. A lot of history and really wonderful to read about the different monuments and buildings. I feel like this is a hidden gem within the city and definitely recommend anyone visiting the city to stop by and enjoy the park.
