Nestled within New Orleans City Park, Couturie Forest is a serene woodland escape just a short distance from the bustling downtown area. This hidden gem encompasses eight distinct ecosystems and is home to Laborde Mountain, the city's highest point. The forest offers an opportunity to explore off-the-beaten-path trails while staying within the city limits. Visitors can wander through the lush greenery, observe diverse bird species, and encounter native wildlife such as turtles.
I love Couturie Forest; it's such a serene, lovely place to walk! The forest is beautiful, and I enjoy walking and birding here. I also really like the signs and education given here to help people of all ages learn the importance of forests, and what kinds of wildlife live in them!
I spotted White Ibises, Mallards, Snowy Egrets, Downy Woodpeckers, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Blue Jays, Northern Cardinals, and several more here; it's a lovely forest and also a lovely place to see where the wetlands meet the forest, and you can also catch glimpses of grassland birds that roam around across the water. :)
I have been here (at least) twice, and I would absolutely go again. It's a lovely place to walk and enjoy nature. :)

Beautiful park, though a bit of a walk from other sections of City Park. We saw several species of birds, some lizards, and a few gator heads swimming around. Not to mention beautiful plants (and more than a few mosquitoes).
Nice, little park, close to town. You walk close to the water under beautiful trees. Well maintained trails. There is a good sized parking area.
My god I love this place. HUGE. When you walk over an into the forest there’s a trail to the left middle and right. It is so big that after finishing one day I went back another day and saw areas I didn’t see the first time. - was able to see 2 bunnies, a red cardinal, and lord of butterflies. My dog loved the trail.
My only complaint is there’s no trash cans. But at the very entrance so if you have a poop bag or bottle of water you finished you must hold it the whole entire walk. To refrain from littering. I did see a few poop bags littered. It upset me because I wouldn’t want to be penalized for them as far as dogs being welcomed. So I def think atleast one trash can in the middle could totally help.
You’ll forget where you are while exploring this unexpected little hidden treasure, right in the midst of City Park! Make sure to check out the NOLA map etched in concrete at the “top of the hill”!
A beautiful and well-kept city park for sure!! There was no litter at all. I only saw a few birds today, but I’m guessing there wasn’t much because of the cold front coming to town. Very spacious area and beautiful trails
We had a family birthday party/picnic at the Couturie Forest in City Park. I had never been to this area. It was beautiful. Nice trails. There was an art association that put together a scavenger hunt for various things you'd see or find in a bottoms land forest. It was really cool. Take a few hours and visit. Very relaxing.
I really enjoyed this quiet spot in City Park. Even on one of the most busy days of the year this spot has significantly less traffic. It's quiet and very beautiful. I love all of the flowers and shaded areas. We also saw lots of butterflies! It has a small area for parking, a few picnic tables, and some easy walking trails.

Was crazy to see this place potential being wasted, was dirty and empty and I really have to same pretty bad shape! Was amazing I ask the security guy few questions and he was amazing describing all about this place and history ,he take the time to talk to me and was the best of coming here…. Oh what a wonderful world
A wonderful little world housed just outside of the French quarter of New Orleans. This quiet little haven of peace serves as a public green space, equipped with sculptures, plaques and more honouring the late founder of jazz. Though I would say it’s potential has been let down by its custodians.
The park has some quaint little walkways and bridges which personally I enjoyed. This included a wooden bridge over a small beck, within which turtles can be spotted.
We pondered on whether the turtles are natural or placed by man.
I can’t help feeling like this park isn’t lifted to its full potential, due to the abundance of scaffolding and heras fencing, and the colour of the water. This could be a truly magical place but does feel somewhat uncared for. I understand there has been discussion about whether the adjacent parking lots may be incorporated into the park at some point.
Louis Armstrong Park has the appearance of a public space designed in the Lyndon Johnson era. Stark looking concrete bridges over concrete ponds seemingly without intent or direction. I can't quite figure out what seems so odd about the park. The rarely used Mahalia Jackson Theater is on the property as well as a very large abandoned building, the Municipal Auditorium whose intent is unknown to me, but is in great need of rehabilitation. I find an Executive Order from the Mayors office setting up a committee to study its redevelopment. Hopefully something is in the works. There is also an older historic building complex in the middle of the park, fenced off. Don't know what that is. The stark concrete bridges would be a lot more pleasing to the eye if they were faced with brick. Anyway, it does serve as an outdoor space for events and gathering spot for walking parades. I'm not sure whether they even have bathrooms in the park. There are some nice statues.

Amazing park dedicated to a legend. A nice surprise to stumble across while out seeing the sites of the French Quarter.
The park has great appeal. The city or whoever oversees the park needs to maintain it. It was so sad to see the level of trash that filled the water feature.... the landscape is too nice to look like that. It can be a serene place. Also some of the night lights on the entry of the park are our. Please clean the water up. I still think it's worth going to visit.
This park has potential to be a nice place to visit but at the moment it appears to be almost abandoned and not taken care of at all.
The artificial lake in the middle of the park is so dirty and overall even in plain daylight this place does not gave me the sense of being safe.
I feel this is unfortunate given it is dedicated to one of the best personalities in Jazz and one of the most recognized musician

Updated 2025 review: Great walking trails! Well maintained, well marked. The visitor center was a wealth of information and the park rangers were friendly and helpful. I would recommend to anyone in the area.
2019 review: The employees here are passionate about their work. I came as a single person and was welcomed into the planetarium ($8 for an adult) and it was great. The planetarium is geared to kids, but the gal doing the show was just lovely. I was not aware that the 2nd Saturday of each month is a farmers market, so that was a nice surprise. Everything else is free of charge. I walked part of the trails, and they were well maintained. I look forward to coming back and bringing friends with me.

Great place to take kids. Star were the friendliest of any nature center I have ever been too! The boardwalk trail is nice. We saw turtles and a swap rabbit. The bathrooms were very clean. They have a planetarium and a clean inside portion to the nature center as well. The path was shady and nice. Would 100% recommend this place!
When we visited some of the trails were closed but we still had a nice walk around the loop, every bit of it was boardwalk. The interpretive center was very nicely done with several live animals and our daughter was able to do some arts and crafts too. Ranger Steve in the planetarium was wonderful, he is very welcoming and a wealth of information. In fact every one we met was very welcoming. This is the perfect place for children.
Walked up and Sarah the park ranger gave me all the info on the trails and the exhibits they have to offer. I enjoyed walking the nature trails and seeing the gator. The trails are elevated so kid friendly and there is another trail that is longer but the high water has it temporarily closed. I will visit again when that part reopens.
If you haven’t made the trip out here, you definitely need to geaux! The park rangers are so genuinely passionate about what they do and enthusiastic about sharing it. The trails and the discovery exhibits are beautifully designed and maintained well. And the real STAR of the show (see what I did there?) is the planetarium experience - it’s not what you expect if you’ve been to planetariums before - this is a guided, personalized experience. It’s been weeks since we went and my kid still finds cool nature stuff on walks and asks me to send videos to Space Ranger Steve.
The Audubon Louisiana Nature Center offers peaceful scenery and nature immersion through a system of manageable length nature trails for all ages, toddlers to elderly. Options for boardwalk or dirt trails are available. The boardwalk trails have built-in benches at turn-around points perfect for those who require recovery after short distances. The Interpretive Center is only open 10am - 2pm Thurs - Sat but is worth planning your trip around if you would like to make this an educational visit or have small children to wow. While the facility is equipped with a Planetarium, it has been closed since the pandemic began and has not opened as of the writing of this review 3/2023.
Haven't been here in well over 20 years. Unfortunately, hurricanes have caused a reduction in size; however, staff was friendly & knowledgeable. Bring bug spray & water for the trails. Pay for the Planetarium show - it's worth the nominal fee, especially since there is no other admittance charge for the Nature Center or trails.
This place is amazing! You feel like you’re somewhere else under all that tree canopy, the park Rangers are super kind and enthusiastic, and the nature learning center is awesome!

Wonderful urban park situated at the back end of the garden district, yet feels rather remote and distant from the roar of traffic and city life.
This park was lovely, and had a very relaxing feel to it, unlike city park which felt more like a location one goes for activities such as golf, football practice or disc golf. The path was very nice, wide enough for pedestrians, dogs and cyclists alike, and runs parallel to a lovely stream.
Forget your woes and come down and enjoy this lovely little breath of scenery.

What a beautiful park! Well-manacured, serene trails, delightful fountain. I spent more time here than I thought I would.
The park is directly across from Loyola and Tulane, yet many families with young children were enjoying themselves. There were several walkers, bikers and joggers but the park wasn't crowded or noisy.
Just a great stop off the St Charles streetcar line!
Nice environment, loved the bike trail and playgrounds. The random tree swings are also a nice touch. Restrooms are decent.

Totally disappointed 😞 😒 On our last day in New Orleans we had purchased a pass to the Zoo and aquarium On our Last Day in New Orleans arrive at 10 am Tuesday morning to Find out the Zoo is Closed Tickets for the Zoo were purchased on Zoo website for package deals on Monday night ..Totally disappointed and having to wait until Thursday to try to get money back for Tickets that should not been sad and sketchy at the same time...The young security guard working that day young African American man deserves a raise 4sure he was awesome!!! Zoo on the other needs to not sell tickets for days that you are closed border line Tom Foolery and Shenanigans!!!! Totally disappointed In Cincinnati.....

The New Orleans Museum of Art, also known as NOMA, is housed in a magnificent marble building and boasts an extensive collection of over 40,000 artworks from global artists spanning various historical periods. Louisiana residents can take advantage of free admission on select Saturdays in August through The Helis Foundation's Art & A/C initiative.
This review is mostly about the sculpture gardens. Although the museum is nice, it's the sculpture gardens that really wow you. The landscapes, combined with the outdoor art is just incredible. Paths wander around ponds, and sculptures are located along the paths, each one has a plaque telling you who the artist is and when it was sculpted. We went during the week, so it was probably less crowded. So many great photo opportunities along the way. Highly recommend going. What a gem.

It’s an amazing place to visit if you are ever in New Orleans. They have beautiful exhibits and interesting free programs. The museum is spacious and exhibits are easy to navigate. The museum is located inside a lovely park with a lake. All staff members are friendly and helpful. I only wish we had more time to spend at the museum and at the park.
The New Orleans Museum of Art is such a hidden gem. The rotating exhibits are always something special and worth checking out each visit. The permanent collections are fantastic too—especially the galleries on Africa, China, and Orientalism. Beautifully curated, peaceful, and inspiring every time. A must for art lovers in the city.
So much beautiful and dramatic art to view. The museums provides info of the time period, meaningful symbolism and history behind lot of it the pieces of art. Definitely a must see when you come to New Orleans and I love how the botanical garden and the sculpture garden is close by. Staff was friendly and helpful and restrooms were clean!
This is a wonderful place to visit if you appreciate art. They consistently have a great variety of pieces on display. Plus, there are always fresh exhibits being introduced to keep things interesting. The cafe is also quite lovely, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. I highly recommend stopping by for an enjoyable afternoon.
Beautiful exhibits! I didn't expect to find so many famous paintings in here. The museum has three floors, a lot of classic art, but also modern art and ancient artifacts from all over the world! The museum is spacious and quiet. It also have a cafeteria and a nice gift shop

Bayou Sauvage NWR Ridge Trail & Boardwalk, established in 1990, features diverse wildlife habitats including forests, marshes, lagoons, and bayous. It is a haven for around 340 bird species and is also home to American alligators. The .75-mile boardwalk trail offers a leisurely stroll through Madere Marsh and green spaces while the 6.8-mile Ridge trail provides a longer hiking experience.
Neat swamp/marsh area to check out. Pretty clean except for the few idiots who throw their water bottles down. We were hoping to see some gators but only saw one raccoon and a few birds. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a peaceful place to walk in nature.

What an amazing place to explore. If you are local or visiting from elsewhere and want to experience an environment that showcases wildlife this is it. Great opportunity to see both flora and fauna. (Alligators, Alligator Gar, Osprey, Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Rosetta Spoonbills, Ball Cypress Trees, Tupelo Gum Trees, Black Willow....just to name a few) Well maintained walkways and plenty of parking.

Very nice place to get a look at the unique ecosystem of this area. Informative plaques scattered about were helpful. There was one spot in the boardwalk that had a large hole. If not watching carefully, we could have stepped through and been injured. There was also quite a bit of trash in the water in various spots which is such a shame. Otherwise, this is a nice place! We saw one alligator sunning himself, some herons, ducks and lizards.
Just a beautiful walk in the swamp. There are a few soft spots on the boardwalk and you hear a lot of traffic sounds in certain parts, but it is well worth it. It did get hot and shade became difficult to find in the middle of the day

We really loved the tour and was happy it was open on January 2nd when so many places (museums and historic locations) were closed.

Wonderful estate complex and gardens. I arrived too late for a house tour, but enjoyed exploring the gardens. There were several wedding photographers there taking photos of young couples. I'll have to return another day for the house tour.
We had Joseph (I believe was his name) as our tour guide. He couldn’t have done a better job!! As for The house and gardens, it was beautiful and full of cool quirks. Highly recommend!
The guided tour was great, the gardens were great but are no longer maintained, therare lots of weeds. I hope that more people will visit so that they will have the $$ to maintain this beautiful place! The house is VERY impressive, and the history is awesome. I hope that they do well and that this place and history will not be forgotten!
Visited in mid-May for just the gardens. We were disappointed with how unkempt the gardens were, as well as the limited range of plant species and wide-ranging water feature issues. All of that could be overlooked to some extent with a more reasonable price. As it is, at $3 more per person than the far superior botanical garden 10 minutes away, I do not feel I received good value for my money.

I love Longue Vue. I have been coming 6 years. Every time I come the staff is lovely and kind. And the food at the cafe is great. yes it has changed a couple of years ago to what I see as a vegan/vegetarian food options the food is still great and I specifically love their bagels!! I recommend 10/10! Garlic spread specifically.

For all the people giving one star because the gardens are 'unkempt' how would you like to keep up 16 different gardens across 8 acres of land? It is very difficult. I have become close with the Longue Vue staff for coming here so often. If you have an issue with how the gardens look please go and volunteer yourself to clean it up and make it look beautiful. However they are still beautiful and the gardens that are 'unkempt' to you, might actually be designed to look like that.
Also, "As it is, at $3 more per person than the far superior botanical garden 10 minutes away, I do not feel I received good value for my money." somebody said this in a review. If you feel that way then just go there. As I have volunteered at Longue Vue before, we have a lot of staff and a lot of land that we need to work to keep it how it was previously.
Also y'all understand what weathering is correct. Old things do get dirty and it is hard to get to everything. Don't be shallow as an adult.
What a lovely tour! Just took a tour of the house, but I will be back for the combination tour of the house and gardens. The history of this house was amazing. Lafitte Greenway is a scenic pedestrian trail that runs from Louis Armstrong Park to Bayou St. John, linking the French Quarter with the Lakeview neighborhood. Opened in 2015, it offers a beautiful green space adorned with trees and native plants. The wide path accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists, and visitors often remark on the friendly atmosphere and cleanliness of the area.
I really love the Lafitte Greenway and try to use it at least once weekly. The path is a great way to travel through the Tremé from Mid City to the French Quarter. There are numerous playgrounds with exercise equipment, baseball, football, basketball and soccer fields. Even tire pumps for bicycles and tennis courts. This is the original route of the Old Basin Street Canal, from the 1700’s, reclaimed for public use.

It is a good concept and provides access from the Treme area to Mid City. The several playing fields and the exercise pavilion are ok gathering and recreational spots. However the constant reworking of the landscape is both annoying and seemingly irrational, and completely contradicts the purported goal of "naturalizing" the space. Whoever is directing this disruptive disaster should be replaced with someone with actual horticultural knowledge and understanding of natural processes. Also, horse riders are often taking over the walkway and also allowing their horses to defecate at will. This is totally inappropriate and very unsanitary. Overall, the Greenway experience is mixed and could be much improved.
Beautiful greenway lined with trees and native plants. There's enough space for two lanes of pedestrians or cyclists to travel through. Just about everyone is friendly and greets each other as we pass.
I'm surprised at how clean and quiet it is. The volunteer teams are doing a fantastic job! Let's hope it stays this way for all time.
Love the new Cypress trees that were planted. The air smells amazing after the rain here. You can smell the aroma of the trees and the smell of the earth.
The native wildflower patches are lovely too and will be beneficial for increasing the biodiversity of the region.
I'm happy that this place exists. I was working on creating something similar in Queens once upon a time. I also love all of the signage, even the one showing you where you are along the Greenway.

This was a cute little aquarium. I enjoyed the fact that they had a section dedicated to Mississippi River fish and animals. It is not a huge aquarium, so it really did not take a long time to get through, even if you are reading all the displays and taking your time. I super enjoyed the insectarium. Bugs aren't for every one but the displays were nice and all the information cool.
The New Orleans Aquarium is a thoughtfully designed and truly immersive experience. The layout flows naturally; beginning with exhibits that highlight the rich local habitats of Louisiana and then gradually expanding into global regions like the Amazon and Mayan areas. Each section feels purposeful, with smooth transitions and plenty of space to linger and observe.
About halfway through, there’s a well-placed café. It was a perfect pause point to grab a meal before continuing the journey. The combination of regional storytelling, diverse marine life, and beautiful display design makes this aquarium both educational and inspiring. A fantastic experience and highlight of New Orleans.

*Little tip: If you are planning to do the aquarium and the zoo you can add the zoo ticket for a little less than $10 more for a regular entry fee at the front desk or online. So we jumped on the website for the zoo and bought the three attractions package! It's VERY WORTH IT!!!! The insectarium and the aquarium are together and then it's a 20 Min ride up to the zoo. We had a blast! Get the bundle deal! The butterflys are so awesome, they will land on you. I got some great shots of the big ones! At the aquarium there is a penguin ( he is in the photos ) His name is flippy.....HE LOVES THE CAMERA!
A large enough zoo that can make it a day experience depending on your pace. With various opportunities with events with some of the animals, but! They may be day specific so check the calendar.
I recommend waiting to reach the swap to eat. Makes a nice halfway point and if you brought your own food or would like the cafe’s, the one at the swamp will have different dishes and you can eat with the gators. Oh for the parents they do have some light alcohol options like Truly or some other beer brands at either location.
Lastly, the 1st thing you may want to do is go to gift shop and immediately buy a refrigerated spray fan… of course it won’t be cold all day but in those you’ll be so glad, also feel free to throw some ice in there to keep it cool. Hope you guys have a pleasant day 🫶
This place was great!! The mermaids and the penguins were the favorites for the kids. My daughter didn't want to leave the mermaid, she was sooo excited. We always love to see the sea turtles and jellyfish. As always we had to get some plushes to remember the trip.
Our grandson LOVED the special exhibit of mythical creatures! He HAD to get on every single one that had a saddle !!! It made my soul so happy to see him rolling/ running down monkey hill! That marks the 4th generation of my family that has played on that hill!! It brought tears to my eyes!!! The thing he loved the absolute best was seeing the sea lions!!

Wonderful little sculpture park nestled in the south side of city park
The first thing which struck me about this brilliant little free attraction was the diversity in sculptures. Each crafted by a different creative mind, using varied raw materials in unique and perplexing ways.
The sculptures provoke an array of personal thoughts and feelings, sometimes due to the way they move and sometimes due to their curious topologies.
The park is nicely connected by a labyrinth of paths that lead you betwixt the sculptures, over quaint bridges and through nooks. A wonderful immersive art experience.
What a rush! I absolutely LOVED the Sculpture Garden, it was quirky and unique and beautiful and weird, it was amazing. And to see my 5 year old grandson so intrigued by the sculptures made the visit even more fabulous. We visited on a Tuesday and the crowds were light, so we were able to really enjoy without rushing. I urge you to make the Sculpture Garden a definite stop when you visit City Park.

Let me add to pile of good reviews on here. The grounds were lovely. The design pleasing and interesting incorporating the landscape. My only complaint…the staff that embarrassed us by sternly snapping to “stop touching the art.” Makes sense except that we had been walking in the park for a while interacting with the pieces as we had seen everyone around us doing. There were no barriers and no signs and we were the only one she spoke to in our vicinity. So, don’t touch the art even if everyone else is.

Woldenberg Park, also known as the Riverwalk, is a 16-acre riverfront park located just outside the French Quarter in New Orleans. It offers stunning views of the historic Mississippi River and provides a fantastic space for leisurely activities. The park features jogging paths, green spaces, sculptures, and artwork. Named after philanthropist Malcolm Woldenberg, it hosts live music performances during events like the French Quarter Festival.
Beautiful park set on the edge of the river. From there, you can watch the boats float by and the sunrise ripple on the water. The place is quiet in the early morning with just a few joggers and walkers. A nice stretch of riverwalk lets you stroll for quite a while, and the whole area is pretty clean and cared for. If you go further north/east along the water, you can find some beautiful murals. All in all, sunrise there was one of my favorite parts of a day in New Orleans.

This was a nice park. I didn't see much of the park itself because I was attending the French Quarter Festival. The waterfront view of the park was really nice as well as being able to take a stroll in the boardwalk. If you're waking a dog or just out for a leisurely stroll this would be a great place to get away and enjoy. If you're visiting the area and need a break from the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street this could be a great opportunity to take the trolley or even take a walk and get a little peace and relaxation with a view of the ships and other scenery.

A really nice and big park on the Mississippi River, it’s very clean and pleasant to walk through. There are also plenty of places to sit down in the shade.
After the aquarium and insectarium visit we went to check out the river boats. Great view and a beautiful day. The kids loved to look at the water and we just enjoyed the evening.

We visited the New Orleans Botanical Garden today, and it was such a lovely experience. The gardens are really beautiful and full of charm. One of my favorite parts was the kitchen garden with all the vegetables growing—it was so unique and fun to see. The rest of the gardens were just as wonderful, especially the live oak trees draped in Spanish moss. They added so much character and that classic New Orleans beauty.
Coming from Birmingham, Alabama, where we have a very lovely botanical garden of our own, I can say this one is special in its own right because of those grand oaks and the Southern atmosphere. It made the visit memorable and peaceful all at once.
If you’re visiting New Orleans and want a break from the busy French Quarter, the Botanical Garden is a must-see. We truly enjoyed our time there.

We visited the New Orleans Botanical Garden during a trip to City Park, and while the gardens themselves are well-maintained and offer some lovely sights, the overall experience felt overpriced—especially for a family.
The space is peaceful and offers a mix of tropical plants, flowers, and a few artistic installations. It’s a nice place to explore if you’re really into horticulture or looking for a quiet walk. That said, I expected more for the cost of admission. I honestly would’ve preferred to visit alone or with other plant lovers rather than bring the whole family, considering how quickly the price adds up and how little there was to keep the kids engaged after a short while.
There were some highlights: the butterfly garden, interesting sculptures, and shaded areas to rest. But overall, it didn’t feel like a good value for a full family outing. If you’re on a budget or traveling with kids, I’d think twice unless you know they’ll be into the experience. Next door they have a story book land which kids may enjoy more.

I really enjoyed wandering this botanical garden. It's not incredibly large yet there is plenty to see. Several small garden types to choose from. Unfortunately the Japanese garden and train area were closed when I came. A bit pricey compared to other US gardens. Plenty of parking in the area. Restrooms available. Tiny gift shop. No food.

Absolutely phenomenal! I wish we had started earlier in the day because we ended up having only about an hour and a half before closing, and we felt like we barely touched the tip of all this beautiful garden had to offer. We also plan to visit it again in a different season.
The botanical gardens is a beautiful place for a nice walk. There are some great shady paths for hot sunny days! There are nice fountains and greenhouses as well. Restrooms were decent.

Brown Park, named after a prominent oil producer, is a popular destination in New Orleans offering year-round events and free outdoor recreation experiences for students through the NORD Commission. The park features a variety of activities including archery, tennis, fishing, and canoeing/kayaking during the summer. Visitors can enjoy a scenic walking path, running track, sports fields, gym, pool, playground equipment and various exercise classes.
I went swimming today. There's an indoor swimming pool. Adult aerobics classes are Mon-Fri. at 9am. You can also free swim, i. e; do your own thing. The water is about 80 degrees. Come and get your swim on.

Who ever is responsible for the Maintenance in this park need to be fired. weeds and grass everywhere trees are taking over the walking path. You should be able to see the water when you walk but can’t alligators are in the water but you would even see one coming because of the trees and weeds it’s the only park we have in the east and it’s poorly maintained. This really is a beautiful park that is surprisingly kept up very well. There is a wide variety of activities available and you can even rent kayaks and canoes for FREE! They even have a pond stocked with Catfish and Rainbow Trout. The rainbow trout blew my mind!
Gorgeous facilities. We used the victory track and field for our O-D All American Bowl games. Bathrooms and concessions were as good as any High School! The parking is a little confusing and you can end up going in circles if you don't know that there are large Lots if you keep going straight back!
This is a nice park in New Orleans East. It's got a walking path that meanders through the park, a running track, sports fields, gym, pool, playground equipment, and outdoor activities. During certain times of year, they offer free canoeing and fishing for the general public on Saturdays. NORDC has done a good job with this park.
The security was oddly rude and controlling, During the McMain vs. Carver Game. Definitely don't understand the reasoning behind seating arrangements. The guest was very upset after being moved several times. I don't have any future plans of returning. It's unfortunate.
Joe Brown Park is a wonderful resource in New Orleans east. There are so many facilities available like a running track, a stadium, a recreation center, and a public pool. The park is maintained beautifully and is one of the most wonderful public resources available in the east!

We had a fantastic time on our swamp tour! Our guide/boat captain (his name is escaping me right now—he was a former cop, firefighter, & military) was great! He was knowledgeable & funny. He made all of his guests feel at ease with being so close to the gators. You could tell that he had a passion & love for these amazing animals. I would highly recommend!
We had a blast on this tour. We went on the pontoon boat, our guide shared so much history and knowledge. He was quite funny while feeding the alligators and we got to feed them as well. I would recommend Swamp Tours.
We did a small airboat tour with Capt. Brady and that’s definitely the way to go. He took us through canals that the larger pontoon boats can’t make it through, and we saw so much of the flora and fauna. Capt. Brady was super knowledgeable and the tour was informative and amazing. Loved the Bayou, the adorable gators, and all his food recs!

This natural area is an ideal destination for birdwatching along the Mississippi Flyway, thanks to its lagoon system and diverse array of trees and vegetation.
Loved this park, gras needed to be cut… but it’s been raining for three weeks down here so! It’s completely acceptable ! Awesome place for my younger and older children to play!

Brechtel Memorial Park
A very large sprawling nature park tucked away in the Westbank neighborhoods. I feel I cannot do this park justice as it has a lot of potential but it also needs a lot of work. It's large, 110 acres complete with multiple pavilions, picnic areas, one playground, two bathrooms, two large ponds with a canal connecting them and several bridges and two baseball diamonds and the trailhead campground. It was first built in the 1970s damaged by the hurricanes in 2006 and 2008 and part of a rejuvenation to an ecological park in 2011.
This was a very exciting park. The grounds and trails are kept maintained and the bathroom closest to the road is open and maintained. The playground was well equipped with two different age group play areas and equipment. It is in a well shaded area next to the water with trash cans and benches.
There was a plethora of nature here. We went on a short hike down one of the trails over the bridge and saw two rabbits and a snake. The grass was a well kept height and the trails were clear with only a recently fallen tree on one section.
There was a man fishing, and several birds about the water but it was a distinctive orange color probably from low pH and bacteria from decomposing organic materials.
There was no charge on entering but sources say there used to be. The large wood carving at the right of the entrance called Whispering Giant was nice, I should have gotten a closer look and picture of it. Picnic tables were not in the best shape. The camp ground was closed and locked to traffic. The camp areas were overgrown and in need of repair. The pavilions were in good shape and perfect for parties, nature lessons or gatherings. I do want to come back and explore more.
This was a nice place to spend the day and eat a picnic. We walked around the woods and visited Bachelor's Groves. It was a peaceful place with scenic views in the middle of the forest. I would have liked to see the camping grounds, but there was a locked gate across the entrance to the camping area.
You can hike around and through the forest and feel like you are really away from the city. i did see several large snakes.
A hidden gem. Beautiful park that's not crowded. We rented shelters 7 and 8, and had sooo much space plus private restrooms.
The park was clean but there were a couple of tables and benches that were unusable because they were broken. The city should really replace these. There also wasn't any soap in the restrooms. No electricity, so we needed to bring generators but this was known in advance. These are really the only cons.
This is one of the only few parks in the city that allow a DJ outside so that was great! We also were able to bring in food trucks (they must be paid in advance), games, grill, etc.
The staff was also nice. No issues there.
Black, female security guard with the atrocious wig is extremely rude, combative, unprofessional, and confrontational. Confronts every visitor she sees in an attempt to intimidate and bully you into leaving the park earlier than the posted closing time by almost an hour. This park is not visitor friendly.

I enjoyed being on this Square. The presence of St. Louis Cathedral as the oldest Cathedral in America from where the Square is beautiful. Very well maintained. There's a jazz player and you know you are in New Orleans. If you are driving a car, there's a convenient paid parking just a few minute walk to the Square and the Cathedral.

This is a beautiful historic site. I love visiting these kind of places. Sandwiched between the St. Louis Cathedral and the Mississippi River, it is a wonderful setting. Cafe Du Monde is right across the street! There is an open air market all around it with vendors of all types and some street performers also.
A lovely park on the river in New Orleans! There is a lot of space and places to sit, and it certainly is a beautiful space! There are also a lot of historical things around and plaques to read!! I continue to return every time I visit NOLA — it is where I find some of my favorite street performers. :)

Where do I even start from the artist? I got a beautiful print for $10, the weather was 71° which was perfect. The park was Right next to the trolley and the New Orleans hospitality cannot be beaten. A gentleman made us try beignets with him and coffee and paid for it because he's so proud of his state and what they have to offer. The street performers were so awesome. We need more of this in our life. Connecting with others and nature through food and art. We also check out the hat store and picked up a hat that's right along the side of the park. So there is so much to be offered here as the last stop was the cathedral and the ceiling was amaculate We had lunch at Monty's on the corner of the park a must see.

Jesus. The most beautiful city park I've ever been in. And I didn't even cross into the north section. The south part has great water features, the free sculpture garden which is fun and chances to spot turtles, storks and alligators.
The City Park in New Orleans has to be one of the best I’ve ever been in. The landscaping is beautiful and there are several places to see inside the park, the Botanical Garden, Story Land, the Museum of Art etc. There’s plenty of parking and security too.

New Orleans City Park is everything it promises to be, a park in the city. It is also big, and home to a range of popular sports facilities including football, tennis, golf, disc golf, running, dog walking and more.
There are eateries within (e.g. cafe du monde).
The park is equipped with important park apparatus such as trees, grass, bodies of water and rollercoasters. A train circumnavigates the south end of the park.
The northern end of the park presents itself as more barren. We saw a large black snake in the grass near the disc golf course which we understand was either completely harmless and friendly, or deadly. A lady picking leaves nearby remarked she’d never seen a snake in the park before, and was both thankful yet envious that she had not witnessed this with us.

Absolutely beautiful park! We only had about an hour to be in City Park, but we wished could have had all day. There is something for everyone here. If you want a sweet treat, stop at Café Du Monde. If you want to see areas with deep historical roots, look at the 300+ year old trees and more. Looking for a great spot to take your kids, there's an area of the park for that! Looking to enjoy the water and maybe see an alligator, there are plenty of spots for that.

It was fantastic. The exterior designs of the zoo were divided by all the cultural diversity areas of the world and which animals originated from. There's so much to see you'd have to stay here for the whole day just to be able to see it all. There is a small Waterpark area if you have kids or it's just too hot outside. There's also a restaurant that is not considerably expensive. it's most snack food to relax and to continue with your sightseeing of the animals. It does take a long time before entering the zoo.

We love being members here. It’s got something for everyone and perfectly located in the city so you feel like you in a totally different place. We enjoyed the shaded areas during a hot summer day. The food wasn’t bad either when we took a short break while it sprinkled. One of the coolest places was an area for the kids to play and cool off in the heat. My twins didn’t want to leave until I told them we were heading to see the gators. They have a beautiful collection of animals and it was really clean everywhere we went.
What an amazing zoo! Spent 4.5 hours and wish I had more time to spend. The animals looked well cared for and there is a large diversity of animals. Feeding the giraffes lettuce was 10 seconds of fun for $5. Only downside is that the park map doesnt fully match the pathways available to walk - several people including myself were "lost" a few times.
Such a great zoo!! I spent about 2 hours here & had a great time. Very clean. Helpful & educated staff. Animals look like they are being taken care of very well. I try to visit a zoo everywhere I travel now & this was one of the best. I purchased my tickets in advance just in case there was going to be any long lines because I went on Halloween. I got there when it opened & didn’t have to wait in line at all.
What a wonderful experience! I was a little sad that they did not have reciprocal pricing for AZA accredited zoos, since we are a part of our local AZA accredited zoo. But the money you pay is definitely worth what you get to see. Inside the park was a little pool area (that costs extra) where you and the kiddos can hang out on a hot day. Unfortunately, that was not something out group knew about so we didn't wear water appropriate clothing - although it would have helped because oh my gosh, was it hot when we went there.
They have the zoo divided up into areas, and some of my favorite things to see was the ocelot, tapirs and the maned wolf (so which I was so thrilled!).
They also have a cute little area dedicated specifically to the bayou and had a store where you could somewhat get out of the heat and cool down.
It can take about two to three hours to cover the whole entire zoo, which is a lot of walking but - like I said entirely worth it.
I went to the aquarium a few years back, and this definitely out did the aquarium! So if you're only able to do one - the zoo wins out!
We went recently to the boo at the zoo. Not being our first time to the zoo but the BATZ event, both are great! We love the zoo in the first place, 2 visits and the membership pays for itself. Theres always things to see there and its got plenty of quiet spots to take a break and eat picnic lunch. The BATZ event had enough new things to spend the whole day!

The habitats arent even habitable, they have dirty water , no toys to play with , half of the enclosures werent able to see , half of the animals werent out which is understandable bc it was hot but still

I was looking at one animal and then in the far back i seen another that looks locked up pacing back n forth , i came back at least 20 min later and it was STILL doing the same thing

Even the reptiles have enclosures that are so small for them , some snakes cant even climb which maybe im just thinking wrong but snakes need good enclosures also (they werent horrible just small in my opinion)

And yeah maybe some animals are “playfull” but they still need ENRICHMENT

This place is an amazing location for families or anyone who wants to learn more about Insects. I have been to many butterfly exhibits and this by far is the best one I have ever been too for the amount of butterflies flying around. Additionally the other insects were fascinating and there was plenty to see. The signage was informative and easy to read/comprehend. Well done and a must to visit!

Small but mighty. I mean, insects are small, so you can't expect it to take a lot of space right? The butterfly room is beautiful and truly a unique experience. The bug cafe is awesome too! You get to try eating a food with bugs in it - the cookies re my favorite.
It was very crowded. The butterfly exhibit is the best thing about the insectarium. There isn't a whole lot to look at other than the butterflies. You can eat crickets on a cookie and ranch and Cajun flavored ones as well.
This is included in the price of the aquarium and was a nice add on. It was small as well but worth it. We saw a lot of bugs that were active. The butterfly area is pretty and relaxing!
I loved everything about this insectrium. It was beyond what I expected. Learned a lot, saw a lot. The staff were great. Engaging and offered education. For a weekend visit not overly crowded. Was able to see all the insects before heading to see the butterflies. All in all this was worth the money. I bought both aquarium and insectarium and having been at a larger aquarium personally the highlight for me was the insectarium. Definitely a great visit for children and adults.
Holy cow!! The amount of insects in this place is phenomenal. Varied species and from all over the world. The butterfly exhibit is next level awesome.
Interactive firefly experience, butterfly house, and so many different insects! The ant exhibits were so cool, you could see the underground colonies.

I enjoyed the Insect area. I think for the size of the aquarium the insect area was pretty good. I went into the butterfly entrance and I thought that place was absolutely beautiful. It smelled so earthy with all the plants and butterflies. The perfect place for a plant lover.
I asked some questions about the butterfly food and the employees there were very knowledgeable. I enjoyed all the information they shared. So kudos to the two employees that were in the butterfly area today.
I like the little computer games they had in the area as well. The instructions were really easy for kids to understand and it allowed them to play more so they could survive from being eaten by a bird.
There was a gentleman there that was showing a scarab to another customer and the information that he had on the scarab was interesting.
I wasn’t expecting much from this place, but I enjoyed myself plenty and highly recommend going to the aquarium and getting the combo.

The funeral home Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries is a well-maintained, historic funeral home in Metairie, Louisiana. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is frequented by residents of New Orleans for its history and elaborate mausoleums. The employees are friendly and helpful, making it an easy place to visit.
The staff was exceptionally compassionate, professional & accommodating. The chapel & event center were beautiful & convenient for organizers & guests alike. The catering was superb. Highly recommend !

After you tour St. Louis #1, head up to Canal & City Park Streets. There are 4 big cemeteries up there, no your required. Metairie is the largest, by far. So much to see here, so many interesting tombs. And this is where Anne Rice is, if you want to see her monument. We probably spent 2 hours in here, driving around, parking and wandering and taking photos. Highly advised.
This cemetery is an absolute Must See if you are visiting New Orleans and love old cemeteries. I visited in 2007. We are planning a trip for this fall. I just wanted to share some pics I took.
We had my grandmother’s funeral here the past weekend and I was very disappointed with one of the staff members. She was the first person we spoke to about all of this in person. My uncle and I have never planned a funeral before and I just felt so overwhelmed. She lacked empathy & compassion. I know it’s a business but you also want to promote your business through word of mouth. If your customers are happy they will tell others but it does go both ways because I will not recommend your facility and have later heard others dissatisfaction as well.
Ken Shields from the burial side was exceptional and went out of his way to answer some questions regarding pricing for the funeral side of things. She had the attitude of, this is the price & if you don’t like it you can go some where else basically. All about the $$$ and not the customer. I feel like in this type of business it should be like working in the healthcare field but she totally missed that part… compassion part! You should treat people like the way you would expect to be treated as well as your family members. I am giving 3 stars because there are others who were good to us. Whoever did the makeup for my Granny, GREAT job! Lauren Appel, she knows what compassion is and how to treat people with respect, I really appreciate all she did for us. She could teach Kailyn a thing or two. The greeter was very kind and thank you for gathering all of our things.
I chose Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemeteries for my wife’s final resting place in the All Saints Mausoleum because of the reputation for cleanliness and the high standard of facility upkeep. While the grounds are well maintained, I must share a deeply disappointing experience that occurred during her entombment.
On that day, there were not enough staff members available to conduct the service on time. We were forced to wait nearly an hour while the same team completed another funeral that arrived just minutes before ours.
This delay was not only distressing during an already painful moment, but it also caused us to be late in receiving our guests at the repast. It felt as though Lake Lawn placed efficiency and profit above compassion and respect for grieving families.
For those considering Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries, I urge caution. While the facilities are pristine, the lack of adequate staffing and the prioritization of profit over families’ needs can cause unnecessary pain during already heartbreaking moments.
My Dad passed away in August. The services at LakeLawn were very nice—no complaints. However the cemetery has proved to be somewhat incompetent. It took over 1.5 months before his name was added to the plaque and when we went to see it today THEY MISSPELLED HIS LAST NAME!! Totally unacceptable especially since the other four members of my family who are buried in that same vault have the same last name posted on it. Waiting for explanation on how that happened and how it will be corrected.
The cemetery representative just contacted me and cited human error as the cause and assured me it will be fixed. Human error? Not buying that. Someone in management was not paying attention.

Hermann-Grima House is a 19th-century museum featuring period furnishings, an operational 1830s outdoor kitchen, and a stable. The house showcases the influence of American architecture on New Orleans homes post-Louisiana Purchase and offers insight into the lifestyle of affluent Creole families from 1830 to 1860.
This might be one of the best historical tours I've ever had. Guide Katie was an outstanding source of information, ready and able to answer any question asked. It's a true skill to offer the right amount of details without over-communicating and to provide a factual account of the events with awareness and sensitivity to different levels of social and emotional awareness. I got so much more out of the tour than expected, with guest questions leading us into discussion of a variety of extra topics. The house and grounds are well-preserved and arranged with true historical pieces and covered nearly the whole of the property.
The price was very fair and if you have interest in visiting their other site - Gallier - you can get a discount on admission (works in reverse as well). Just show your receipt when you purchase admission to the other one.
Katie also generously offered me a little extra of her time after the tour to discuss additional perspectives and have an excellent local food recommendation. I was so pleased I called the next day they were open to say thank you again!

Our tour guide, Ariety, was wonderfully knowledgeable, engaging, and professional. She patiently and thoroughly answered questions and provided details that brought history to life. This tour sheds light on urban enslavement, a topic not often covered in either history books nor in tours of antebellum homes. Enlightening experience!

I had booked for the 1300 tour, but received a call in the morning that they had no one to do it if I could come earlier or at 1400. I chose 1400 as I had other plans in the morning. The tour started right on time. The tour guide made sure he asked if there was any questions before we moved on to another room. Got to see a cooking demonstration. If you have time I would recommend. There is also a small gift shop.
The Urban Enslavement tour was a fascinating look at life in the French quarter from the perspective of the enslaved men and women working in a huge mansion. It was so interesting to step inside each section of the slave quarters and each room of the main house and hear the true stories of the individuals who lived and worked there. Our guide was fantastic and cared so deeply about the history she shared and the memory of the people whose stories she told.
Great place to visit for visitors and locals alike. I've been twice in the past few months and live nearby here in the French Quarter and walk past this gem all the time.
First visit was during museum month solo on my own. Had a great guide and enjoyed seeing the home and learning about the Herman and Grima families. What really made it special, however with the focus on urban enslavement which open up dimensions many tours don't provide

Put it on your to-do list if you are local or visit the area. I also highly recommend visiting the Gallier House which is an associated property located down on Royal street. The story of that family and current tour focused on death and mourning traditions is also fantastic. Great guides and insights shared.

I absolutely LOVE Lake Pontchartrain!!!! It really is something special. It looks just like I’m at the ocean! It is one of the most beautiful places in NOLA. I usually grab some gator bites and a burger from one of the restaurants on Lakeshore, and sit for hours…just being. It is a great place for fishing, running, walking, jet skiing, boating, reading, gathering…ANYTHING!! Most tourists miss out on this place when they are in New Orleans…that’s probably a good thing. It’s a really cool place. I had never seen an estuary this large…WOW!! A cool bit of information I learned about Lake Pontchartrain: any life in the Gulf of Mexico can be potentially be found in the water, and it is only about 14 feet at its deepest. Go hang out, you will love it!!!!

Paddled from the launch at Airline Highway close launch is not open long but nice paddling but lots of big boats so keep and eye out and raise a flag to be seen.
Gigantic lake...so wide, you cant see the other side from the shore! Lots of shelters surrounding it for gatherings and picnics, plus a nice walking walk and nice paved roads for bike riding with several restaurants nearby on the Metairie side.
The neatest thing was taking a car across the causeway, especially when its slightly foggy, it's like driving thru a cloud. Just make sure you're not on an empty tank! Worth a detour!

This place was amazing. We went as soon as they opened on a Saturday morning and the kids were able to do everything they wanted to do.
They had sunblock dispensers at the entrance and hand sanitizer placed throughout.
Indoor areas are amazing, awesome toddler area, the outdoor spots were clean and fun, the art station and water stations were easily the best. The staff was all fantastic as well.
I could go on and on, this was a definite hit. It felt amazing to be somewhere designed for kids, not just accommodating or tolerate of them.

Overall, while the museum offers engaging spaces, for those who value children's museums that excel in truly open-ended play, rich loose parts, and exhibits with scalable complexity – allowing children of varying ages and abilities to engage at their own level and continually discover new challenges – there's certainly room for growth in areas like the water and food exhibits. With some thoughtful additions, these spaces could become even more powerful catalysts for learning and imaginative exploration.
They have indoor and outdoor activities. That can keep the children very busy. They have different activities. They have music, food, arts etc. Outside, they have activities on the patio, an artificial turf green space. The children can water the plants, a huge sitting area with chairs and a fire pit etc

Truly excellent local museum- active learning exhibits for kids on native plants and animals, culture and foodways - the water play area about the Mississippi River is always a hit! Don’t forget to go into the cafe with a quarter to get some pellet food for the turtles that live in the bayou outside- you might get a gator sighting too!

I went here so I do have some thoughts. Graduated in 4 years, no mean feat in a town with as many distractions as New Orleans. To me, going to school in here felt a bit like Pinocchio might have when on the first day he was heading to school and got distracted to Donkey Island instead, with all its gaudy joys.
Plus, my four years coincided with the protests and conflicts over the Vietnam War, civil and women's rights, MLK and RFK assassinations ... lots going on in the world around us. At times classes were disrupted by protests on Tulane's campus and the term called off a month early in 1970, just after the shootings at Kent State. I remember going to Washington DC to participate in the national protest going on then.
I will say Tulane did present me with the opportunity to learn quite a bit and I did occasionally take advantage of that. Many of us who went there know we learned how to party and how to stop. Otherwise, there is no way we are graduating in four years, if at all.
It is amazing to visit Tulane as always. Thank you for treating my daughter so well.

Crescent Park is a beautiful space with deep cultural and historical significance — especially the Latin American Workers Memorial, which honors those who helped rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The artwork and intention are powerful.
However, I was concerned by what I saw during my recent visit. The monument is visibly neglected, with dead flowers, trash, and stains on the marble base. Even more alarming, there are clusters of wild, potentially poisonous mushrooms growing right along the walkways — a major safety risk for kids and pets.
This park deserves better care and attention. It has the potential to be a peaceful and educational destination, but only if the city invests in maintaining it. I hope to return and see it restored with the dignity it deserves.

When I was there the place was lousy with clowns but they were kind of hot so, when they chased me on their roller skates it was oddly traumatic yet stimulating.
I guess the best way to describe this would be that when I recall this memory "I will find it difficult but not impossible...".
There's a very small chance that if you me running to clowns here so if you don't like clowns or don't want to be put in a situation that would cause you to not like clowns in the future, perhaps you should steer clear.
Other than that..it's a nice park.
Pleasant, meandering park. Cool pedestrian crossings over the railroad, including an elevator for wheelchairs. Big, covered warehouse floor is great for skating and tennis. Easy to forget the river is there when on the other side of the levee.

There are tables toward the Piety Wharf side where you can sit to have a picnic lunch. We ate our sandwiches from the nearby Frady's One Stop Food Store, Roast Beef PO Boy and a Muffuletta sandwich on one of the tables while admiring the view of the river. The area is very clean and nicely landscaped with rose bushes.
Absolutely love this park. They open the gates promptly for 6a. I lead a free workout group, open to all - community oriented (come join us!). But point is we are there every Tues/Thurs at 6a and Sat at 7a, and we've never had a problem!
It's always clean, always safe, and always beautiful. The views are awesome. Fun fact - the park is EXACTLY one mile (if you know where to start) in length. Which is awesome for our Saturday timed miles. I promise this is not a shameless workout post (despite what it seems) just authentically want to share that for our use it's an absolute treat. As a local who also spends a considerable amount of time at Audubon, City Park, etc - all of which I love - Crescent Park just hits different. Enjoy it.

Had a few drinks,chatted, and listened to the jukebox. Definitely a fun experience.

Took the ferry over to Algiers on our recent New Orleans trip- planned to just wander but found this place and decided to check it out- what a treat!! We love a good “dive bar” with character and history, and this one’s got it! The service was IMPECCABLE *chefs kiss*. Our day shift bartender (I’m sorry I forgot your name!) was a great historian and she recommended some other great establishments to check out, both in Algiers and back across the river too. Algiers itself is a beautiful, peaceful, clean place, and the folks who live there and can stop by the Old Point after work are lucky!!
Great old-school neighborhood bar on Algiers Point. Bartenders are friendly and attentive, drinks are "locals" priced, and they have amazing music on a regular basis. Quite a few movies have filmed at this place. Great place to go for fireworks on NYE and July 4th, as it's right on the levee, and the fireworks are just out in the river. Highly recommend any time. If you're visiting, it's a short walk from the West Bank ferry landing. Ride the ferry over, grab a bite from any of several restaurants, and grab a cocktail at Old Point.
Some of the most laid-back entertaining people. So willing to never be a stranger to anyone. The beer selection is great, the alcohol pores are exceptional. Can't say enough about the bartenders. The music venue, booking calendar, fantastic job.
I challenge you to tell me where you can go to listen to such good music for 5 or 10 bucks. Plenty of seating inside and out, parking is just as easy.
We took the pedestrian ferry from New Orleans to Algiers and walked 10 minutes to the bar. Ferry is modern, $2 fare, well staffed - it runs late as well. Algiers was an old neighborhood, but pretty clean, there’s a great path on top of the levee, we felt safe enough. The bar is “divey” but clean and well managed. We were very comfortable there. There is no food service - so we got pizza delivered. Staff was courteous and attentive. Nice stage, and a really good band called River Rock played ($5 cover – Elvis, Steely Dan, Petty, Springsteen, Eagles, Huey Lewis). It was worth the $5! Overall a great experience.
Cool locals bar. Anyone from a small town has been in a bar like this. Feels like home. The kinda place you can leave your wallet and phone on the bar and no one touches it. Saw some bird, ducks and lizards. We went in February, not so much to see. The beginning there were a few wasp. Has signs with info, all and all it was nice to walk around. I would say it’s about less than a mile long. If you want to see the Castle, you need to cross or park across the street.
Little run down but still a beautiful view and great place to stop to enjoy. Along the road you pass the castle house and a little further down is the pull off to the nature area to enjoy the views and the wildlife
Nothing much to see during December. We only saw one rabbit and that’s about it. Restoration work was on going but it could be really nice place if it’s done nicely. There wasn’t restroom available when we went in December 2022.
My favorite little nature getaway right here in New Orleans. We try to go at least once a month, and it's never the same twice. This place changes so much seasonally and with the weather, it really is an amazing spot.
Was a nice quiet easy place to go to see alligators!! Wanted to be in an area away from the city where we were able to see wildlife without having to take a swamp tour. It was clean, quiet, uncongested with people we were able to walk around and enjoy. There are tables and a bathroom nice area to relax and walk around
If you like paddling with alligators and birds, Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge is the place for you. The bayous and sloughs inside the Refuge are mostly inaccessible because of invasive plants but the main canals are wide open and chock-a-block with reptiles. We lost count of the alligators cruising by us after 30. Lots of big gar in the water too. And all sorts of raptors and marsh fowl. Nice little pier at the launch site for shore line fishing.

This place is definitely unique. It has a dark rock sort of vibe...not my thing personally but it's cool. Lots of skeleton themes throughout and rock metal playing. I like that they are open late. They have 4 different bean roasts- medium, chicory, dark, and another blend- Highland something. Barista was nice and brewed another pot of coffee for us. The coffee was alright. It's got a lot of sitting space, and they have board games, as well as nights for movies or games. They've got half n half, soy milk, coconut milk, and regular milk for the coffee.
Personally I love Z’otz. If you are not familiar with New Orleans, the city is a bit like Amsterdam. There is a taste of everything here from formal/conservative to informal/unconservative. Z’otz is pretty far out on the latter end. The decor embodies a quirky humor, slightly morbid, very ‘alternative’. Patrons are mostly quiet studying types the half dozen or so visits I’ve made. Music is very varied, and you might discover something new. Coffee and treats are reliable, but the charm is in the bohemian feel.
Coffee is really good, some unique flavor blends available. The patio is actually really cute and a nice place to enjoy some coffee, have a meeting, study, whatever your heart's desire. The inside is actually really artsy in the best way possible, all kinds of cool things to be seen. This place is a whole vibe.
Service was extremely poor. The waiter , a short, sassy, bald-headed man with a beard was extremely rude to me. He kept pestering me to make an order even though it had already been an hour since I've arrived. He tried to say that it was policy for me to be a customer even though there was no sign stating such a rule. Very unprofessional. I just wanted to relax and chill at what used to be a favored cafe of mine. I honestly feel discriminated against and unfairly treated in the end. If it truly was a policy then there should have been a sign created to let people who are walking in know that they need to make a purchase. It's a bunch of crap. Very shameful the way I was treated.
Z’otz is the most down-to-earth, unpretentious, artsy, gothy, bohemian little cafe in New Orleans. Authentically eclectic and weird, it’s been a gathering place for university students, local goths, punks, nerds, artists and good weirdos of all sorts for decades now. The coffee bar is solid and the pastries are reliably yummy, but let’s be honest - you come to Z’otz because you’re a Z’otz kind of person and it’s a safe, cozy place for people like you. Couldn’t love it more.
I've been a regular at Zotz for more years than I can count and I've never had a bad experience. The staff and the environment are the best in NOLA, their coffee is great, and its one of the only cafés you can frequent late at night. They care about their customers (if you have a spine) and you can always find someone to strike up a conversation with on the back patio. If you're looking for community and coffee, go here!

The trail is completely overgrown. If it wasnt for All trails, I would have gotten lost. This is not a hiking trail. The people who manage this "trail" should be embarrassed. They have no idea what they're doing. If you don't know how to properly manage a hiking trail, then at least post warning signs so people know what to expect. I have never experienced anything like this in my 10+ years of hiking experience.
I've hiked to the ammunition magazines twice, both times were overcast, no rain. Great hike, the alternate routes were overgrown, when you cross the bridge just pass the bat houses there's really no trail that I could see. I will probably come back in the winter to see what I can see. Only saw two snakes, one was a moccasin and the other was a runner (blue) at least that's what I thought. No other animals.
Nature trail with two paths: one muddy, one rocky. This place offers night time adventures with reptile treks and the team is very knowledgeable. Great place to take a walk with your kids, your dog, or just by yourself, enjoying the nature and the surroundings.
As a Cypress tree lover, this trail was amazing. All the different formations they made. Saw wildlife , 5 armadillos, 1 solamander, butterflies, squirrels, and 1 large boar. The trail is moderate as it has roots and cypress knees everywhere, there is a geocache route or whatever it's called and a few more. The bunkers were nice to see. The signs and information boards were very interesting. Bring lots of water and some snacks if you explore like I do. Overall a great hike.
This is a very nice trail to walk. It’s about 5.5miles if you are doing the entire trail. There are bathroom areas by the entrance which were decent. It was really nice getting to the back to see the WWII depots. You can bring your dogs for a walk as long as they are leashed. I did see. horse trail signs also but didn’t see anyone riding when we went. It was a really nice walk. Would definitely come back again.
Was in for a visit and did the 5 mile hike with my Aunt. Very moderate hike follows the levy the levy. Its over grown in some areas and its warming up so keep your eyes peeled for snakes, the armadillos were out as well I almost kicked one on the trail. The WWII ammunition batteries are a neat piece of history. In all its a great nature hike close to everything.
Great easy trail spot. Had plenty of flowers and different plants. They had plaques up to learn about each species of greenery. Definitely a worth it experience. Parking was weird because there is no designated spots. It was free to enter. There are public bathrooms at the start of the trail. The bunkers are a neat thing to see. The trail to get there is about 2.5 miles out. There are a couple small bridges to walk across. It was a very immersive nature experience with all of the wildlife and animals. Lots of deer and birds. Be careful of the spiders, and i definitely recommend wearing pants instead of shorts for this trail.

Yes, yes, I know. Nothing screams “I Googled ‘must-eat in New Orleans’” louder than Cafe Du Monde. It’s the Eiffel Tower of fried dough. The Statue of Liberty of chicory. The Times Square of powdered sugar. But hear me out: sometimes the cliché is a classic for a reason.
We came for the beignets and chicory coffee, and left with powdered sugar in our hair, hearts full, and a renewed belief in the magic of the obvious. The beignets? Pillowy, golden, and unapologetically dusted like they were trying to erase all memory of low-carb living. Each bite was a soft jazz solo, sweet, warm, and just a little bit cheeky. The chicory latte? Earthy, bold, and comforting, like a hug from a caffeinated swamp witch who’s seen things and wants you to know it’ll all be okay.
And despite the reputation for lines longer than a CVS receipt, we walked right in. No wait. No chaos. Just a table, a tray, and the kind of service that says, “We’ve done this a million times, and we still care.” Our server was swift, kind, and knew exactly how to wield a tray of beignets like a seasoned pastry ninja.
Outside, the sky opened up in a theatrical downpour, because of course it did. Our last hours in New Orleans deserved a dramatic curtain call. And right on cue, a saxophone player appeared under the awning, playing something smooth and wistful, like the soundtrack to a sepia-toned montage of love and powdered sugar. My wife and I sat there, sipping, smiling, and silently agreeing that this was the kind of moment you don’t try to improve. You just live it.
Was it touristy? Absolutely. But it was also excellent. And if excellence happens to come with a side of mass appeal and a gift shop, so be it. I’ll take it.
We’ll be back. Not just for the beignets, but for the reminder that sometimes the most obvious choice is also the most delicious. And next time, I might even wear white, just to see how much powdered sugar I can get away with.

Definitely the iconic spot it is heralded for. Beignets were amazing. The frozen café au lait is a perfect pairing. The jazz music outside really sets a vibe for the puffs of powdered sugar as you bite into your Beignets. Its the standard and sets the bar. Start here and then try the others. Seat yourself and someone will come to you. Sometimes that takes longer than you want. Cash only but open 24hrs!!!
What can you say about Café Du Monde? It’s iconic for a reason. The beignets are absolutely incredible — hot, fresh, perfectly crisp on the outside with a light, airy chew on the inside, and piled high with powdered sugar. I went on a busy Sunday morning and was lucky to get a seat right away, and the service was surprisingly quick given how chaotic it can get.
The restaurant is very casual and crowded, with cramped tables and chairs, and the waitstaff are constantly on the move. The restrooms are limited and not the nicest, but it’s a casual spot, and the prices reflect that.
I was so impressed that I went back the next day — these beignets are truly worth a visit to New Orleans on their own. I’ve been dreaming about them for years, and they exceeded every expectation. Absolutely phenomenal. 100% recommend to anyone visiting the city.
We had to visit cafe de monde, it is an institution. Super busy any time of day. Beignets are related to donuts, but not as flavorful. They are covered with heap of powered sugar, so they very messy. I saw very few people that were not covered with white powder. To stay relatively clean you have to shake off the powder first, you still get a lot of sweetness as some of it heats up and melts onto the dough. The bathroom experience was memorable. There is a long line, and there is a bathroom director who tells the next person to enter one of two bathrooms (both are either/or ) bathroom. They are the size of the air plane bathroom, dirty, with wet floor. There are no paper towels, but one can use toilet paper to dry the hands. It is an experience I will remember.

The waiting queue is very fast moving, it's a place where you don't need to be seated. Servers are helpful and quick to serve. Their hot coffee with milk was amazing, kind of similar to filter coffee you get in India.

Beignets and coffee are the name of the game here. The beignets are coated with enough powdered sugar to tempt the Narcotics Unit to throw you behind bars. Will you find better tasting beignets in the area? For sure. But will you eat them in a place as historical and nostalgic as the city itself? Heck no!
The main thing to know is this place is cash only. Also, you can purchase one of the server hats and get the cheapest souvenir in the French Market. I've eaten here early morning and late at night, and it's truly a toss-up on which vibes I liked better. In the end, you can't go wrong.
Long line, but it moved steadily. It helps to know your order in advance, easy with the small menu. Have the right amount of cash ready. Staff did a nice job keeping things moving. It's not revolutionary, but the beignets are good, the chicory coffee is mild, and the beverages are serviceable. Fun to go with a group and check it off your tourist list (then try more beignets at different places with less wait time).

Our best experience in New Orleans. Better than our recent Everglades tour. Our bus driver Derek had so much valuable information I only wish I had booked this tour at the beginning of our trip. We saw so many animals and the swamp itself was picturesque. I will definitely do it again when we are back in New Orleans. I don’t remember our tour guides name but he’s in a photo and he was great at spotting so many animals.

Our bus driver Derek made the trip a great experience from the very start. He was incredibly knowledgeable about New Orleans and shared so many facts and stories along the way — it felt like an extra tour before we even got to the swamp! Once we arrived, Captain Randy took over and did an amazing job on the boat. He was entertaining, experienced, and really knew how to spot wildlife. Both Derek and Captain Randy made the whole experience memorable and well worth it!
We took the ghost walking tour on October 30th, and our guide Henry Lauth was incredible. His storytelling was unlike anything I’ve seen before. He didn’t just tell the stories about the haunted mansions—he truly performed them. Every gesture, voice change, and expression made it feel like we were part of the story ourselves.
Both my girlfriend and I were amazed the whole time. Henry’s passion and talent made the experience unforgettable. Five stars don’t seem enough—I’d happily do the same tour again just to watch him bring the stories to life once more.
It was my first time being in New Orleans, and my group of friends started off my early birthday by taking us on the swamp tour. First off I would like to shout out to our bus driver Dwayne a.k.a. pebbles a.k.a. the rock, a.k.a. Sox. LOL Who gave us a positive experience on our drive to the swamp tour, he was really cool and knowledgeable on giving us information about the city and things that people didn’t know so thank you. I appreciate it. And to our swamp tour, Captain Steve, who is very knowledgeable as well and given us great information about the plants and animals and introducing us to George the raccoon. It was a great experience to visit the swamp tour and a breath of fresh air from California. Thank you for this experience. I hope this reaches to your colleagues and managers. To let them know what a great team they have there!
Captain Scott aka “the swamp ninja” was absolutely amazing! We had so much fun on this tour. He went out of his way to get us up close and personal with all the creatures of the swamp and explain their background as well as the history of the region. We give this tour and Captain Scott 5 stars and an A+++. Highly recommend!!!!
We had a great time with Cpt. Randy (Blueberry)! Very knowledgeable about NOLA, the plants, & wildfire. I was also very nervous about going but ended up having such a great time and felt safe the entire time. Definitely 10/10 recommended!

We had heard about this unique bar prior to our trip so we decided to make an effort to check it out and we’re so glad that we did!
These guys have ALL the Christmas lights and they are strung up everywhere inside as it’s their only form of lighting.
The staff were super relaxed and the vibe is awesome with a mix of locals and travellers (like ourselves) and everyone was made to feel welcome.
We loved the concept and will definitely be back next time we visit NOLA!

The best dive bar I've ever visited! A real New Orleans local spot that's such a hidden gem. Inside, lit by some Christmas lights and sometimes accompanied by some gorgeous dogs and outside feels like a total house party. A place where everyone comes together. Cheapest drinks in the world too and the kindest staff. Can't wait to come back one day.
Quintessential dive bar. When I say that, I mean that this is the most "diviest" dive bar that I have ever walked in to in my entire life. And, they want you to feel that. Dark, red lit barroom that has comfy seats and a long bar to sit at. There is a huge outdoor seating area for a couple or a big group. Decent prices and a warm but semi-creepy feel, which I actually loved, you should definitely come here for a visit especially if you are a fan of dive bars.
Probably not a spot that you're going to take your mother, but let's face it - she's already in bed by the time Snake and Jake's gets going. Definitely a neighborhood spot that you could easily miss if you weren't looking for it. A great dark dive to get away to if you need a break from the normal spots and grab a cold beer.

Went here once two years ago and I still think about what a weird wonderful spot this is. Has the curb appeal of a tool shed and feels like a photo darkroom once you’re inside. But then step out the back door and it’s this backyard oasis full of mismatch patio furniture and big beautiful plants. Next time I’m anywhere near NOLA I will absolutely be stopping by Snake & Jake’s.
The steaks were perfect. Champagne flowed freely. Mr. Snake got in a big fight with Mr. Jake but they kissed and made up. The jugglers didn't show up so the customers decided to strip naked and roll around on the bathroom floor in protest. A meteor slammed right into the bar and that's the last thing I remember.
I think it's a 3.5+ b/c I love quirky. I figured it would be a dive, and essentially, it was, but with so much functional coolness, you've just got to love the experience. Dark, no real parking, and tucked into an uptown neighborhood. But, for all that, you walk in, temporarily blinded by the darkness and then you adjust to the beady, red light strings and you notice there's a bar and some rustic furniture and you flash back to the real glory days of Port of Call b4 its homogenized and pasteurized modern reno. I'm left to wonder if they made burgers, would they be as good? My friend led me thru the bar that, with just a few steps, resembled a shrinking twilight zone hall to hell but once through the plastic flap curtain, opened into a backyard wonderland of giant oaks, string party lights, surrounded by uptown cottages. I loved it and could see myself there in that lovely oasis with any band and any body! This has to be why I've heard so much about this place and the reason I knew I'd be back. But then, later sitting at the rickety table inside the bar, random seeming, folks walked in with trays of food and portable stoves. They tacked up a poster that read, Taco Tuesday, who knew. Then another random guy appeared from nowhere with an accordion, sat down, and began playing. I was transported back to that gondola in Venice. Whatever he played, whoever he was, it was just perfect, random, awesome, odd, unexpected and quirky. I'll be back.

Charlie's Steak House is a classic, old-fashioned steakhouse that has been serving up thick cuts of meat and traditional sides since 1932. The restaurant exudes a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of the good old days when your grandpa would visit after a successful day at the horse track. The menu is refreshingly simple, offering only four options: T-bone, strip, rib eye, or filet. Each dish is brought to your table sizzling on ancient metal trays.
Lovely old school steakhouse, I came with a large group for a birthday celebration. It's a family style service, everyone ordered the steak they wanted, and we ordered a bunch of sides and apps for the table. I didn't order any drinks, as they didn't have the ingredients for a Vespa at the time, but everyone else raved about theirs. The steaks of course were cooked to perfection. I love the fact they had a NY strip on the menu as most places I've been to don't carry that cut. The sides were so good they almost stole the spotlight. The creamed spinach, potatoes gratin and crab casserole were so rich and creamy. Better than any previous versions I've had. And the mountain of fried goodness that is their onion rings! I would seriously come here, sit at the bar drinking and pigging out on them only. Several of us ended up putting them on the superb wedge salads. The only letdown was the broccoli, which I was warned was lacking in comparison with the other sides. Not bad, but decidedly plain when taken with everything else we ordered. They could've cooked them the same way as the asparagus, but they were only slightly steamed. Service was equally excellent. We were the only diners upstairs, so we had their full attention. Being family style, they won't split individual checks from the table, so we collected cards and split everything evenly. Of course there were the two that make the most money out of us all who somehow didn't contribute. Don't bring those ppl when you come!

Old school steakhouse with a lot of flair, no written menues and outstanding food and service. The rib eye was done to perfection, the creamed spinach outstanding and to be quite honest, I never had crab au gratin before! What a treat!! To top it all off, some to die for Tiramisu! A truly superb experience off the beaten path. Our server Jason deserves a honorable mention as well.
We enjoyed our meal and would go back sometime. They were busy but the service was pretty good. My wife's filet was delicious. The NY Strip that I had was also pretty good. We were disappointed that they ran out of tiramisu but otherwise we had a good meal.
Charlie's Steakhouse is the real deal-so good we ate there twice in one week during a vacation in New Orleans. The steaks were phenomenal, cooked perfectly both times, and the sides hit just right. The waitstaff was friendly, fast, and made the whole experience feel like a local favorite, not a tourist trap.
Absolutely worth the drive away from the French Quarter-next time I'm in town, l'm heading straight back.
If I could give seven stars I would. Charlie's is one of the very rare untouched icons in New Orleans, despite having changed ownership. The food and service are impeccable. We literally just ordered the entire menu, minus the asparagus. If you're coming to New Orleans, Charlie's is a must.
The service was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere was great and fun! Yes it is pricey but you get the absolute best accommodation for the reservation. The food was incredible. I’m torn between which sides I liked the most between the potato’s au gratin or the crab as they were delicious! Our server who seated us was very kind and accommodating to such a large table. I highly recommend this fine establishment for anyone who is having an anniversary celebration. Reservations are mandatory but is so worth the time. If I were to give this fine establishment a rating out of 10 it’d have to be a 12 hands down.
Before diving into the food, it’s only fair to acknowledge the highlight of our visit: the service. Our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming — the kind of hospitality that sets the tone for a great dining experience. Unfortunately, the food failed to follow suit. In fact, Charlie’s singlehandedly inspired me to start reviewing restaurants — to give praise where it is due, and to expose the overrated and underwhelming establishments dragging New Orleans’ food reputation into the ground.
Charlie’s Steakhouse may be billed as an “uptown staple,” but our experience revealed why New Orleans patrons — both local and visiting — often settle for mediocrity under the guise of tradition. The picture speaks for itself.
We ordered medium-rare strip steaks, a basic expectation at any reputable steakhouse. What we received were steaks served raw, with virtually no sear and laughable grill marks. For a $50 cut, this is inexcusable. A proper steakhouse has one primary obligation: get the steak right, every single time. Charlie’s didn’t even come close.
The meat itself was under-seasoned and uninspired, with a texture more reminiscent of an oven-baked roast than a seared steak. Just look at the edges — limp, rubbery, and completely devoid of any crust or crispness. It was disappointing to the point of absurdity. I brought the leftovers home, and even my cat turned her nose up at them.
Ironically, the best thing we ate was the potatoes au gratin — and that’s almost entirely thanks to the obscene amount of cheddar cheese baked into them. It was rich, gooey, and borderline excessive — but at least it had flavor.
Very rarely do I walk away from a meal genuinely regretting the money spent. This was one of those rare occasions. For the price and the reputation, Charlie’s Steakhouse delivered an experience that felt more like a parody of fine dining than the real thing.
We came to Charlie’s Steak House for the Coolinary Festival while visiting from Arizona to celebrate a birthday, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Even before arriving, our Uber drivers and locals were cheering for us for choosing Charlie’s, and now we understand why.
This dinner was phenomenal. I ordered the filet mignon cooked perfectly medium, and it was buttery, tender, and unforgettable. I paired it with potatoes au gratin, which were so good I took them to go and even carried them with me on bourbon street to enjoy later. The house salad starter was decent, though a little heavy on the vinegar, but everything else more than made up for it.
What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Our server Amanda was phenomenal and the bartenders were equally amazing. My family and I have not stopped talking about this experience, and we even found ourselves recommending Charlie’s to locals during our visit. We cannot wait to come back the next time we are in New Orleans.

This is the type of place that you will only find in New Orleans. You're stepping into a little slice of history and are given the privilege of perusing the shelves. They have an outstanding collection of books and you can't resist picking up several of them.

A must stop if you, like me, are a lover of classic literature! The shop is tiny, but it is packed with so many great titles. They had multiple editions/publications of each book to choose from. All in a building that is both historic and beautiful! I could have spent all day here.
With so few people who actually buy physical books now, much less the classic literature sold in this shop, you'd think that the person working here the day we visited, would be at the very least...friendly? Maybe even inviting or helpful? Not sure if she was having a bad day, for which I can give some grace, but being passively rude to people who love books, won't sell the small and somewhat unimpressive stock on the shelves. It's a pretty shop, there are a couple of gems, but I fail to see the point of it.

Milan Lounge is a small and unassuming bar in New Orleans that serves cocktails and draft beers. It has a convivial atmosphere and offers darts for entertainment. Despite being hidden, it quickly makes visitors feel like regulars. The place is known for its friendly service, reasonable drink prices, and welcoming cast of characters. While it may appear as a dive bar from the outside, it transitions into a neighborhood bar where locals gather to share the latest happenings in the area.
This is were a true dive bar transitions into a Neighborhood bar. From the outside, most would walk by, but the neighbors don't, and you shouldn't either if you want the latest skinny on the area. Drinks are great, our bartender was a delight. don't leave without ordering a shot of Malort.

Milan Lounge is a classic neighborhood dive bar – the kind of place you might miss if you weren't looking. I popped in during Mardi Gras weekend and grabbed a canned Guinness for $6, which is a decent price. Perfect for a quick drink between parades, and it was conveniently located just a couple of blocks from the route. I even went back for another later on. They had a food truck outside, which was a nice bonus, although I didn't try anything. If you're looking for a low-key, unpretentious spot for a beer, Milan Lounge is a good option.
It's no secret this place is a dive bar. I'm a fan of dive bars and high-end bars alike. This is the quintessential dive bar with friendly service, reasonable drink prices and a cast of characters that are friendly and welcoming. Stopped in here on the recommendation of a former local- and went twice even though it was about 20 minutes from my hotel. If you're expecting Old Style because it's a Cubs bar, forget it because they can't get it in NOLA.
One of the greatest of dives! Cubs bar and jeopardy spot. Bartenders are heavy handed, you'll always get your money's worth. And for the uptown parades this spot is so clutch, and the official jello spot venue.
I stopped in a long time ago but just need to leave a review. We came from out of town trying to get away from the tourist spots. This is the place. Great neighborhood bar. Lovely patrons. We stayed here for hours. Bartenders are the best. Love Wheaties!!!

What happened? We made a special trip because I've loved this place for 20+ years! The bartender at opening 3pm on Wed. March 20 made us feel as if we were in his way while he watched TV. He sat at the end of bar watching TV after the huge task of opening 2 bud cans for us. No wonder no other customers came in. We drank them and left. He never looked or way again. It was uncomfortably quiet and dreary. Not sure why the review is asking about food.. there was no food and no draft beer.
Met a friend here for convo and drinks and the vibe was cool,could tell it's a neighborhood spot and everyone was kosher
Disc golf course
City Park Disc Golf Course offers a great way to enjoy the park while getting some exercise. The course winds through oak groves and features holes suitable for both beginners and experienced players. With a variety of obstacles, including trees, bushes, and even water hazards on some holes, it provides an enjoyable challenge for all. The course is well-maintained and allows dogs off-leash, making it a popular choice for both locals and visitors looking to have fun in a beautiful setting.
Great course, pretty simple with a couple of mildy tricky shots through those big trees! Very fun to see all the dogs. Most people seem to walk nearby with them off leash, but all the dogs were well behaved, so that's good! All the tee pads are well marked, and the course layout is fairly intuitive, though it was nice to have udisc to navigate a couple times. Best to park at the softball field and then walk up towards the first hole or just park on the side of the road nearby.

Pick yourself up some frisbees from Joe at Nelson Bay Beads then head on over to a wonderful, highly adaptable course with a number of well-signposted tee pads and baskets (gold and blue).
The third disc golf course I have visited. The holes are varied, a nice mix of pure distance drives, difficult obstacles and bends, as well as a decent bit of risk factor with a lake.

We had a close encounter with a big black snake. A local leaf collector informed us this was either completely harmless and safe or poisonous and deadly.
It might be a walk in the park to get there, but by no means is it a walk in the park to get there. It’s quite a long way on public transport, about a 30 minute walk from the street car. The map is deceiving with shortcuts too- without satellite view it’s certainly a gamble with what’s an open field and what’s thick hedge- this could easily add 10 minutes to your return journey!
Only played here twice now, but had a great time, both times. It's a great course, with a variety of holes throughout. Can be wet and boggy and hard to find discs in overgrown areas, but if you stay on course, without too many crazy throws/landings, it is a lot of fun!
Good place to go, open in places, treed in places, can play several rounds and use different baskets or tee offs to create a different round each time, I enjoyed it!
City Park is way bigger and cooler than I expected — tons of trails, art installations, and even a sculpture garden. Great place to chill, jog, or just people-watch. Plus, the vibe is super laid-back, which feels refreshing.
Nice FROLF course! You can have your dog off leash. Has a great variety of holes. Has enough trees and bushes. Not a course in the woods. Even some water hazards on a couple holes. Even a fun raised basket.

Located in the historic Bywater district of New Orleans, Clouet Gardens is a charming spot with a variety of activities including concerts, markets, and yoga. The park features a beautiful lawn, planters, roses and a new public piano painted by artist Adam Lozoya. It's perfect for enjoying quiet contemplation or outdoor activities with friends.
I just happened upon the Clouet Gardens and my first impression was Wow. This is a really nice area, shady, tranquil and very nicely done. To have such a special spot in a neighborhood is really great. I was there on a Monday and was the only one there. The grounds are well maintained with ample seating and lots of things to see. Great job!

While exploring Bywater, go to Clouet Gardens for a break with nature. There's a large grass open space with local art, a Little Free Library, tables, and more. It's very peaceful.
This place was so special. A little slice of heaven on a beautiful, 70⁰ and sunny day in the Bywater. So inviting, lots of art and flowers and places to sit and relax and enjoy the little things New Orleans has to offer us.

Lovely community park. Sometimes people leave their trash. Other times it’s pristine
Meh.....this place was disappointing. Went Tuesday late afternoon. Except for some chess tables, there's nothing there and no one there. Though, I imagine there was some sort of party maybe the day before cuz when I walked in, to the right there was nothing but empty drinking bottles of all sorts. So there was a party there not to long ago. Shame I missed it. Call BEFORE you go to see if there's anything going on. The mosaic wall and the shell wind chime were the only interesting things there.
I love Bywater, anytime you take a walk, you are greeted with something new to see. It is so peaceful . This garden is a great place to sit and just reflect. Don't leave without speaking on the windphone;) There is a little free library where you can even grab a book while you sit.
We had a great tree planting ceremony there. I never knew this place existed.

Nestled in the heart of New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, Sankofa Wetland Park & Nature Trail is a remarkable 40-acre project that beautifully marries environmental restoration with community engagement. Established by the Sankofa Community Growth Corporation in 2014, this park was born out of a vision to transform an area plagued by neglect and illegal dumping into a vibrant ecological haven.
I love their mission and vision. I'm so happy I got to stop here on my tour for the 20-year anniversary of katrina. They gave us samples and everything I loved every moment and they gave us some education about where they are moving to and how they started the store and everything.

This place is positively lovely. Truly a hidden gem in New Orleans. They do markets catered to kids on the second Saturday of the month.
Really nice place to visit and enjoy what nature has to offer. The group at Sankofa are serious about protecting our wetlands and growing native plants and trees.
Great place to bring the kayak, View birds and natural Louisiana Cypress scenery. Nicewalking trails and picnic areas also

It is a beautiful library that has boasts some marvelous architecture and surroundings. There are some exquisite reading rooms in the library that emanate a vibe that I can only describe as New Orleanian. However, the library or the grounds is not large enough to focus an entire day for tourists. It is a wonderful stop on St. Charles street. You can catch a street car a few steps away from the library that can take you downtown.
I recently visited the Milton Latter Library with a friend, hoping to get some work done on my laptop, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. The historical house and grounds are genuinely impressive, and transforming such a beautiful building on St. Charles into a public library feels like the perfect solution to preserving its charm while serving the community.
While the library itself isn't particularly large given the size of the building, there are comfortable tables for working, and the free WiFi was exactly what I needed. The hour I spent there felt unique and special—partly because the staff was dressed in costume for Halloween, which added a delightful touch to the atmosphere.
What struck me most was the character of the place. More libraries need this level of charm and personality. It's not just a place to borrow books or use the internet; it's an experience. I'll definitely return when I'm in town again, even if just to soak in that special "feeling" the Milton Latter Library provides.
Beautiful public library. Such a unique location, feels very welcoming. There's plenty of sitting areas for reading! The power outlets can be hard to reach but there's some in each room. Great place for quiet study or to get some work done.
This branch just opened after a remodel all summer (to my knowledge). The grounds and outside look fantastic. I was never inside prior to the remodel, so I'm just commenting how it looks now. The front has a bike rack, and there is a big porch, but I didn't see any benches or chairs.
When you walk in there are 2 sitting rooms to read in, and some newspapers also. They have ceiling paintings with beautiful chandeliers, and couch and chairs. Old fashioned parlor feel. Love that.
There is a front desk where I got my Orleans Parish library card from Michael, a very friendly and helpful guy who told me some stuff about the library system.
There is a side room also for reading, using a laptop, writing, whatever...a few long tables and comfortable chairs.
Went up to 2nd floor via an old wood staircase that just impressed me. The staircase, not the 2nd floor. Upstairs has some book cases, and DVD and CD'S and books. Not really alot here, but it's a small branch. Computer room, some more chairs.
Overall, it's a cool place to read. You can get things here, but not a huge selection.
They DO take book donations, and sell books, so there's that.
But, it IS a beautiful property.
This branch of the library is lovely. The building is an old mansion, which is large in terms of houses but perhaps small in terms of libraries. While this means the selection is smaller for what's immediately on hand the second you walk in the door, it's one of several locations, and you have access to anything in the New Orleans Public Library system. Their website is great, so you can easily look for what items are available and where if you want to be sure you get what you're looking for. The reading rooms downstairs are lovely (see photos). I attended a wine and coloring event and it was well-organized, well-supplied (with FREE wine, cheese, and coloring supplies!), and a very pleasant way to spend the evening. The grounds around the library are also appealing; they're well maintained, there are some small garden-like portions, and it has an overall peaceful vibe. It would be nice to see more seating outside, particularly in the grassy and garden-like spaces.
I passed this library while visiting New Orleans from Texas. One of my biggest regrets is that we didn't have time to stop. Otherwise, I would have spent a couple of years in there and never left. It looked absolutely beautiful.
It's a small library, but it's clean and easily accessible and the staff is always helpful. This location is a great reminder of the power you have with a library card in your hand.

Museum
The Great American Alligator Museum is a labor of love that has finally opened its doors to the public. Visitors can expect to see magnificent birds like Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, as well as otters, nutria, and turtles during tours. The museum features a diverse collection of alligator-related memorabilia, including items like toys, cookie jars, purses, and even an alligator guitar.
Really cool little museum! TONS of gator memorabilia, tchotchkes, fossils, folk art, taxidermy, etc! The gift shop sells a a lot of neat stuff, including glow in the dark alligator t-shirts. Limited hours, so be sure to check Google and/or call to confirm they're open!

Donation-based museum about the alligator that incorporates scientific, historical, and social elements in their exhibits. I stumbled across them while exploring Magazine st and spent a long time reading the exhibits.
We saw this while strolling down Magazine Street and popped in, I'm so glad we did!
It's a very cute hole in the wall museum with an incredible amount of alligator objects, some bones, some taxidermy and plenty of whimsy.
The gift shop is also delightful. If your in the area pop your head in, it won't take you more then 15 minutes to see everything and you'll be all the more delighted.
Wow!! This is so much more than someone’s collection of alligator-related memoribilia - it’s a genuine tribute to the American alligator.
As soon as you walk in, it hits you. You can immediately sense the love and knowledge that went into the displays and exhibits.
There are some really interesting items in here - my favorite was the alligator guitar! The collection is nicely organized by type: toys, cookie jars, purses, etc. The variety is stunning.
As you you walk into the first room, you are greeted by Fideaux - a ginormous (dead) alligator. It’s beautiful; you can inspect an alligator up close (but please don’t touch) and take your picture with it (but please ask first, I definitely should have but I don’t think they mind at all). There are some very impressive fossils and even a Katrina door that was beautifully painted with alligator artwork by a local artist.
There are too many items in here for me to even attempt to list - but it has to be seen to be believed!
The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable - they will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
The museum is FREE! You can’t beat that price. But there is a donation box, it is always nice to give something back if you can. The gift shop in the front has so many goodies, which are priced very nicely so be sure and look for something cool before you leave. I got a couple gifts for my girlfriend and my son.

The description of this place reads coming soon! Be warned though because they are indeed open! I have been stalking this place for some time now, and thru various social media sites I noticed they were open! My dream is coming true, in this one case. I packed up my gnome and ran over here. Admission is by donation, they do have a gift shop. This has been an actual labor of love for the owners and has taken many years for them to open. It is a lovely museum. I am so thrilled they are open and I suggest everyone stop on by for a look around. Amazing. Simply wonderful. And near many other places that are interesting. Make a whole day of spending time in the area, shopping local.
Super cute and informative alligator themed museum tucked away. Honestly, this is a must visit! They work on donations only; the museum is entirely free. They have a collections of trinkets, fossils, and oddities!
This place is absolutely croctastic. This FREE (yes, it’s free, but they operate on donations, so show them some monetary love) museum features tons of interesting history about the way alligators have existed alongside humans. It’s a small but dense collection of alligator memorabilia, curio, and fossils. A must-see if you’re on Magazine St.

LOOP NOLA is a nonprofit organization in Greater New Orleans that aims to provide positive outdoor experiences for children and youth. Their mission is to offer urban children more opportunities to spend time outdoors and learn about the natural world. The organization offers various activities such as canoeing, fishing, and a rope challenge course designed to teach teamwork and critical thinking skills. Additionally, they host family days with experienced staff guiding participants through outdoor fun.
Super friendly staff. Cool location. It’s hot out on the high ropes course so pack lots of water. The walking trail to the right of it is really nice as well.

New Orleans is so fortunate to have great programs like LOOP NOLA to help the youth of the area experience the joys of outdoor activity in the middle of the city. There are wonderful experiences like canoeing, fishing and is even a rope challenge course that helps kids learn teamwork and critical thinking skills. The family days are a great way to get the whole family up and off the couch for a few hours of fun outdoors with experienced staff there to help guide you through the activities.
Great canoe rentals in City Park! The staff were very knowledgable and friendly. Also extremely through on keeping the whole experience socially distanced and sanitized. The booking can be done on their website and makes the check in process a breeze.
Would highly recommend renting canoes in city park with LOOP NOLA!
LOOP NOLA offers something unlike any other organization in the area! Students from all around the New Orleans area develop a love & sense of stewardship of the outdoors through canoeing, hiking, wetlands education, summer camps & overnight camping trips. Kids learn leadership skills and develop their self esteem while challenging themselves and having fun! The staff are skilled and passionate. The ropes course is unmatched in the area & can be booked for team building! Such a valuable organization.

Mardi Gras Parade Tickets are a must-have for experiencing the vibrant parades that take place in New Orleans. The festivities kick off in January and continue through late February or early March, with major parades starting Uptown and ending at Canal Street. In addition to the grand celebrations on Fat Tuesday, smaller foot parades like Barkus and Krew Du Vieux offer unique experiences within the French Quarter.
We bought tickets for all the parades passing the grandstand on St Charles Place, right before Canal St. Definitely worth it because you can go in and out, have access to a port-a-potty, and have bench seating. This location is near the end, so it takes about two hours for the revelry to get there. We were so close and caught so many beads and made new friends too. I will always get my parade tix from this company.

Best to just stand on the street side for free because even though there were bleachers, everyone blocked your view by standing up. Bleachers were connected to each other by duct tape. At one point they started swaying and we felt terribly unsafe and left the area to find a safer place to stand and also to be able to view the parades better. I would NOT recommend this place.

Chapel
In New Orleans, Saint Roch Chapel served as a refuge during the yellow fever outbreak of 1817. Reverend Peter Thevis dedicated prayers to Saint Roch, the Patron Saint of Good Health, in this chapel. Although some areas like Saint Roch and Central City have higher crime rates and poverty levels, the chapel has been officially rededicated in 2022 after ongoing repair work.

This little gem is often closed due to the ongoing repair work, but it has been officially rededicated as of 2022. It's a beautiful space and regular healing Masses are offered -- check out the Archdiocesan website for times. If you want to see the ex voto side room or have a specific time frame you need to hit, contact the Archdiocese to ask about visiting privately. It's worth it.
Went there twice on two different days. Closed. Very disappointed. Not sure whats up. But quite a long walk for us each time.
