Nature & Parks
Kansui Park is a popular destination located near Toyama Station's north gate, offering scenic mountain views and grassy areas for leisure activities. The park capitalizes on the history of Fugan Canal, once a boat harbor extending 5.1 kilometers to the sea. Visitors can enjoy attractions such as Fountain Square, Fugan Suijo Line boat cruises, and Starbucks Coffee with breathtaking views.
Beautiful site, every season have different face especially during the Sakura blooming season. Spend some time walk around this park to relax or exercise! Or you can take a boat ride it will last 30 to 40 minutes! The Starbucks in this park are so cool whirl most beautiful Starbucks! You can judge by yourself!

We were randomly taking a stroll in the beautiful city of Toyama and then we saw this park on the sign board and thought of going to the park. It was such a sweet surprise. One of the best parks it was with a beautiful canal throughout the park. There was a fountain show too with music, it was very nice. It’s a huge park and plenty of space throughout the park. Do visit if you are closer to Toyama Station.
Lakshmi — Google review
A really nice park. A scenic lake and jogging track. On a clear sky the view should be spectacular… we went on a cloudy and drizzling day. You can also enjoy a nice cup of coffee and enjoy the view at Starbucks Kansui Park. Nice!!
Ong Y — Google review
The place is amazing I really like everything there and how clean is it The cruise was also great and on time and end also on time. People and services was very good and friendly. I will always go there of iam in Toyama. Thank you very much
Eslam A — Google review
Nice to walk at night when the lights are lit up. Or have coffee at Starbucks with a view. Try to go up the observatory building it has an elevator and viewing deck.

Pretty park at the heart of Toyama city. Petite canal to the sea ends here and you can take a canal boat from here. Clean and contemporary looking, offers a good place to relax in summer.
Keng T — Google review
Was there to visit the popular starbuck. Scenic and quiet park. There's an observation deck too.

Dams
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in the breathtaking Toyama Prefecture, Kurobe Dam stands as a monumental feat of engineering and natural beauty. Completed in 1964 after seven years of construction, this impressive structure reaches a towering height of 186 meters, making it Japan's tallest dam. Spanning an impressive width of 492 meters, it effectively harnesses the spring runoff from the Northern Japanese Alps along the Kurobe River.
View is so crazy! This is the second time I came here. This time, We're here in the 3rd week of October, which is autumn color. We're at the dam about 9am and walk up to observation on the top. View is so wonder and crazy up there. Worth to walk up, but many stairs and quite steep. Just take time and enjoy the View all the track. We're back here in the evening as well to go back yo ogisawa. It about 4pm.
W Y — Google review
The dam is damned humongous!!! What a damn dam!! It would most likely be super stunning during summertime. I went during winter season when the spillways don’t operate but I heard they open the spillways to shore to the tourists during the summer season <3
Helena W — Google review
It is a beautiful and magnificent as it can be! It was built at 61 years ago according to our. Tours guide. And 171 people were lost during the construction! The lights rain on the day of our visit did not affect its beauty. The dam and the lake really made this place magical! All four seasons will give this place a different and unique face, so it is worth of coming back sometime! We also saw a performance in front of gift shot even is raining! What a fantastic performance!
Steven C — Google review
Absolutely magnificent! 🍂 Visiting Kurobe Dam in October was unforgettable, the earthy autumn colors, the rainbow terrace, and the scenic views all along the route were stunning. Also as always, Japan is so thoughtful in accommodating tourists, combining the nature and how they made it easy for all people to hike, even though it’s a short uphill hike from the station to the top, the views make it more than worth it. Every step of the trip was memorable, with breathtaking scenery everywhere ✨✨✨
Dinisa A — Google review
From Murodo I took the tunnel electric bus, ropeway and cable car to arrive at the Kurobe dam at 12:06 pm. It’s a beautiful sunny day in September. The views are impressive.
Alicia H — Google review
On my way to Morodo i was wondering why would i even stop to see a dam, but once you arrive there you understand why. There's also an observation deck on the opposite side to e joy the view even more. One of the highlight of the the whole Kurobe alpine route
Andrea R — Google review
A magnificent location that shows the courage, determination and resourcefulness of Japanese people. Nature blends in extremely well with man-made structure here.

Museums
The Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design is a stunning modern building located on the riverbank, offering sweeping city views from its rooftop. The museum features works by renowned Western artists like Picasso and Warhol, as well as prominent Japanese and local artists. Visitors can explore three floors, with the upper levels dedicated to exhibitions and the ground floor housing a shop and restaurant.
A Captivating Museum Experience for Art Enthusiasts Nestled in the heart of the city, this museum stands as a beacon for art lovers, seamlessly blending architectural brilliance with cultural richness. Its design is a testament to modern aesthetics: soaring ceilings, an abundance of natural light, and an expansive glass gallery that bathes the interior in a luminous glow. The structure’s transparent façade not only invites daylight but also offers visitors a panoramic view of the urban landscape. Ascending to the rooftop terrace, one is greeted with a breathtaking vista of the city skyline. This elevated space transcends traditional museum offerings by incorporating interactive art installations and play areas, catering to both adults and children. It’s a place where creativity meets recreation, allowing visitors to engage with art in a dynamic environment. The museum’s commitment to rotating exhibitions ensures a fresh and evolving experience. During our visit, we explored a fascinating chair exhibition that resonated deeply with us as Viennese natives. Among the showcased pieces were iconic designs by the renowned Gebrüder Thonet. Their innovative use of bentwood techniques revolutionized furniture design in the 19th century, and their chairs remain emblematic of Viennese craftsmanship. Notably, the Leopold Museum in Vienna houses several of these masterpieces, including the elegant “Sessel für das Café Museum” from circa 1898, reflecting the minimalist ethos of architect Adolf Loos . This museum not only celebrates artistic expression but also offers an immersive experience that bridges the gap between art, design, and community engagement.
Yasmin G — Google review
Great modern beautiful architecture to explore! There are free fare areas to feel modern art and architecture around the museum and outside of the museum!
KIICHIRO K — Google review
This is a very modern, clean and well organised museum. You would spend max 30 minutes as they have limited items on permanent exhibit. Somehow they have emphasis on chairs by having dozens of them on display. The surprise was that they have paintings of Chagall, Picasso and Taro Okamoto which are all worth seeing. Some other thoughts: Restaurant on 3rd floor is great. They have limited menu options but their meat and vegetables are freshly prepared. And they also have a good canal view. Location / Access is problematic as taxis are the only realistic option to get there. I think the local authority should consider running bus services if they want more tourists to visit this beautiful museum. I took a taxi from Toyama Station but had a bad experience as the driver was rude and deliberately driving at slow speed to earn more cash.
MASAAKI H — Google review
I only visited the museum shop and the onomatopoeia rooftop playground. Both were lovely, especially the playground! The concept is interesting and it is suitable for adults and children. You also get a great view of the mountain range in the distance.
YJ K — Google review
Great views from interesting building and regular interesting exhibitions. Don't forget the roof garden. Facilities for kids to play and enjoy. Watch for lovely and unique uniforms worn by staff designed by isse miyake. 20 mins walk from station.
Julius A — Google review
Beautiful architecture as always from Japanese museums. The collection when I visited was beautifully collected also (the chairs). Worth to pay for the extra exhibits.
陳Jimson — Google review
A nice modern and contemporary art museum. A slightly different art museum from the rest. Worth a visit. There’s a roof top garden cum playground too.
Ong Y — Google review
Pretty disappointing actually, there are definitely better museums to go to... but the view from the roof is fantastic!

Nature & Parks
Matsukawa Park, situated in central Toyama City, is renowned for its stunning cherry blossom trees that line the Matsukawa River for about 3km. The park offers boat cruises to enjoy the illuminated blossoms in the evening. Once a part of the old Jinzu River and now forming the outer moat of Toyama Castle, this park is a popular spot for locals to unwind and is considered one of the best places in the prefecture to view cherry blossoms.
Convenience location at the heart of Toyama City. Very quiet, especially during weekdays. People can leisurely walk around the surroundings of the Toyama Castle as well as observe a group of cranes who live on the big trees adjacent to the castle.
Eddy C — Google review
Sad to come here when there are no more cherry blossoms (end May). Very normal park as everything is green. The trees near the castle is home to many birds. Not sure what are their names but I suspect they are herons. If you read this and you know the name of the bird, can you kindly leave a review. Thank you.
Seah H — Google review
Sakura🌸 in full bloom on the day I visited, though cloudy. Not too much visitors perhaps due to the bad weather. But environment is nice and quiet, and I guess it would be even nicer to view this place with a river boat trip!
Mcklavier C — Google review
Very good park, clean and beautiful, near Toyama Railway Station. I visited in April so Cherry Blossom season and park was amazingly beautiful
RRT — Google review
A hidden gem in Toyama. Just a couple of minutes walk from Toyama station. It is a small little park and not much crowd. During autumn, the views can be pretty stunning. Do walk along the canal below with a good camera in the early morning. You will be amazed by what you may capture through the lens.

Scenic spot
Amaharashi Coast, located within the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park, offers breathtaking views of rocky islets and the majestic Tateyama Mountains. This picturesque coastline has been recognized as one of Japan's top beaches and has inspired poets throughout history. The famous Onna Iwa rocks against the backdrop of the snow-capped 3,000-meter Tateyama Mountain Range make for a stunning sight that attracts photographers from all over Japan.
Magnificent spot for some stunning photos of the woman's rock against the backdrop of Tateyama. Be sure to come on a clear and sunny day for the best views and pictures. Other than the coast itself, there's also a visitor centre that offers good panoramic views over the coast and a small store to buy local specialities. Do note that the place is slightly crowded, so expect to wait a little while for a parking spot if you're driving.
Ziyuan W — Google review
A very nice spot in Toyama where you can enjoy a stunning view of the Japanese Alps, the sea, and trains passing by — all in one frame. It’s a must-visit when in Toyama. Highly recommended to everyone! Be sure to check the train schedule in advance and reserve your photo spot for the best experience.
NNchan — Google review
Beautiful coastal line where you can see the magnificent Sea of Japan. There is a beautiful walking foot path also along this coastal line to enjoy a stroll. Also opposite to This, there is a cafe shop from where you can sit and enjoy the view of the sea while sipping coffee or tea or while having ice cream. There are also toilets and a good place to sit and enjoy the view.
Lakshmi — Google review
Walking distance from Amaharashi station to the point of the scene. Cloudy on Oct 22, 2025 but you can see the shadow of mountain a little bit. Not bad The train will come in every 1.30 hr.
Chutapha C — Google review
Stunning views of the Onnaiwa Rock, with the Tateyama Mountains in the background. The area is walking distance from Amaharashi Station, which in turn is accessible from Takaoka via the Himi Line. The beach is sandy, so be careful when trying to walk on the rocks as the sand may affect your balance while walking. There are lots of ducks swimming which makes for a charming sight. There is also a nearby roadside station where you can have snacks and buy souvenirs. The roadside station also has an observatory deck. Please consult the train timetables so that you can plan your visit, if visiting by train.
Alvin D — Google review
Such a picturesque little corner. Unfortunately weather was bad, so we couldn't see any snowy mountain, but still worth it. The small shrine, the cave, the railway, the islet and the landscape all mixed together create such a perfect synergy
Andrea R — Google review
A short distance walk to Amaharashi JR station. Train passes right next to the coast. Beautiful location to see the Alps nearby. Unfortunately, no snow caps were seen during our visit. There's a nearby restaurant to recharge yourself and admire the landscape view at the same time. Visited on October 22 ,2025

Castle
Historical landmark
Toyama Castle, situated in Toyama, Japan, is a significant historical landmark dating back to the Edo period. The castle showcases remarkable architecture and offers stunning views of the picturesque surroundings. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful and serene atmosphere in the garden area, making it an ideal spot for picnics or relaxation activities like reading or yoga. Despite its small size, the castle is well-maintained and provides insights into Toyama's history.
Toyama Castle is a small but charming historical site in Toyama, Japan. While the original structure no longer stands, the reconstructed keep now houses a museum that offers insight into the region’s history. The entrance fee is affordable at around 210 yen, making it an accessible attraction. The surrounding park is beautifully landscaped, especially during cherry blossom season, providing a peaceful spot for a stroll. Though not as grand as some of Japan’s famous castles, its blend of history, affordability, and scenic beauty makes it worth a visit if you're in the area. We visited the castle on 1st April 2025.
WS — Google review
Toyama Castle truly surprised me with its serene beauty and historical significance. While the original castle is no longer standing, the reconstructed main gate and the carefully maintained grounds offer a wonderful glimpse into its past. Strolling through the park, you can almost picture the lords and samurai who once walked those paths. The Toyama Municipal Folk Museum, located within the castle grounds, is a fantastic addition. It provides excellent context about the castle's history and the local culture. I particularly enjoyed learning about the Maeda clan's influence on the region. What struck me most was the tranquility of the setting. The lush greenery, the gentle flow of the Jinzu River nearby, and the peaceful atmosphere create a lovely oasis in the heart of the city. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing walk, a picnic, or simply to reflect. Even without the original keep, Toyama Castle offers a compelling experience. It's a testament to the city's commitment to preserving its heritage and a delightful place to spend an afternoon. I highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in Japanese history or simply seeking a peaceful escape.
Javier F — Google review
It's well restored and in good keep. It's quite small compared to other Japanese castles and you can wander around the ground and castle in under an hour. The observation deck is nice and breezy.
T ( — Google review
The castle in Toyama is small but has a really nice garden around it with lots of trees and a river. Even though it was already early winter, the autumn leaves were still so beautiful with all the colors and there's no one else around the area so I got to take as many photos as I like and just enjoy a nice stroll around the park. The river was under maintenance so the boat is not running, otherwise that would also be a nice option to go around. The tourist information centre staff is also super friendly and I receive a wooden bookmark gift from them.
Tracy L — Google review
It’s an interesting place to walk around outside and enjoy the lovely gardens at the rear. As it’s almost totally reconstructed inside I felt little need to go inside as I’ve seen many bigger and more original castles such as Himeji. We particularly liked the mandarin ducks in the moat
Kevin G — Google review
We visited Toyama Castle in the morning and it turned out to be such a peaceful and enjoyable experience. The weather was perfect—blue skies, gentle breeze, and not a single crowd in sight. It felt like we had the entire castle grounds to ourselves. The family really enjoyed the walk around the park surrounding the castle. The greenery was lush, the moat reflected the morning light beautifully, and the entire place had a calm, almost poetic atmosphere. It was one of those moments where you slow down, take a deep breath, and just enjoy being present. While the castle itself is a reconstructed version, it still carries a sense of quiet dignity. The surrounding gardens and stone walls give you a glimpse into the history and offer plenty of scenic spots for photos. If you’re in Toyama, don’t skip it. It’s not a grand, towering castle like some others in Japan, but that’s what makes it so charming—understated, serene, and a perfect way to start the day.
Crumpled N — Google review
A smaller but lovely castle. The gardens are very spacious, and there is a small museum inside the castle itself.
Hercules W — Google review
This is the castle of the MAEDA family, who were the lords of Toyama. The old stone walls and gate remain. The main building was recently rebuilt based on the original design, and the interior is now a historical museum. The MAEDA’s armor helmet was impressive because it has 127 centimeters length with unusual shape.

Museums
The Toyama Glass Art Museum, located in the modern Kirari Building designed by architect Kuma Kengo, is home to a remarkable collection of contemporary glass art from both Japanese and international artists. The museum features permanent exhibitions such as the Collection Exhibition, Glass Art Passage, and the Glass Art Garden showcasing works by renowned artist Dale Chihuly.
This museum is fun to visit, it also have a library inside. The whole building has a lot of natural lighting, making photos look amazing at many angles. The use of wood and glass makes the overall design minimalist and clean. The glass installation is so colorful and looks mesmerizing. There's also special exhibitions from time to time. I made my own glass bead bracelet at the gift store, wish I could buy some of those beautiful glass deco. the staffs are super friendly.
Tracy L — Google review
Architecturally, this building is remarkable – combining historical charm with a modern sense of space and light. It houses several well-curated exhibitions and galleries, each offering a different cultural perspective. The top floor is dedicated to the art of glass and glassblowing, featuring a thoughtfully designed exhibition with impressive glass installations that highlight both craftsmanship and creativity. While admission is somewhat on the expensive side, the overall experience offers a lot of cultural and artistic value. The lower levels include public libraries for both adults and children, providing a quiet and welcoming space for reading and relaxation. We spent over an hour there browsing through books and enjoying the calm atmosphere. Overall, a visit is worthwhile for anyone with an interest in art, design, or architecture.
Yasmin G — Google review
I never know glass can be made into such as amazing artwork. The admission is only 200yen. The paid exhibition spends onto floor 4 and 6. I wish there are more items on display. The building itself consist of a public library as well.
Gordon K — Google review
I only can appreciate some of the larger scale glass are or the glass sculpture with the light effect. For other smaller glass sculptures on display, which to me, it’s a dust collector. I’m apologize for not understand the art form or the creativity of those artists. One good and positive thing about this museum is the price of snacks like cheesecake and chestnut 🎂 cake etc is very fairly priced also very delicious! Coffee is also very good!
Steven C — Google review
Beautiful museum to visit. The architecture of the building with its wood and glass structures evokes a calm and peaceful feel blending in with the beauty of the glass art pieces. There was a piano recital in the foyer when we visited. In all a must visit when visiting Toyama.
Yvonne C — Google review
The building itself is a stunning piece of architecture by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma, with a façade inspired by the shimmering ice dikes of the Tateyama mountains and warm cedar interiors. Inside, you’ll discover an impressive permanent glass art exhibition and a beautiful library. A must-visit when in Toyama!
Addaia M — Google review
The museum looks big. Only 3 floors (Starts from Floor 6, then 4, and 3). Some art prices are really spectacular. The other floors are just book stores. There is also a coffee shop inside and has a nice menu. They serve in one of the best glass crockeries. It’s allowed to take pics Inside, but not allowed to share on any social media channels or on google. So, I won’t be able to upload pics here 😊. There is also a museum shop inside where you can purchase some souvenirs and other glass selections.
Lakshmi — Google review
Architect: Kengo Kuma. Love the sleek exterior juxtaposed by the rustic interior of cedar beams. Entrance fee: we only paid 200yen but you could pay more if you'd like to catch the special exhibition. Exhibits: the permanent exhibition of dave chihuly works was a crowd pleaser and certainly eye catching. However I preferred the understated glass art by japanese, korean, and czech artists - photography was not allowed for that exhibition though. Since toyama has a rich glassmaking history, I think it's worth visiting this museum. Dont miss the gift store too!

Takaoka Old Castle Park is a captivating blend of history and nature, nestled just a short drive from the Takaoka Interchange. Established in 1875 on the grounds of the former Takaoka Castle, this expansive park spans an impressive 210,000 square meters and features remnants of castle ruins surrounded by three serene moats. Visitors can explore various attractions within the park, including Imizu-jinja Shrine, a zoo, and even a museum.
さくら🌸forest is very awesome, I enjoy the sunny morning, Suggesting to walk from Takaoka station directly to enjoy the street view. The another reason is the train duration between the two lcations is too long. If you come from KANAZAWA, you must take the Shinkensen with JR 4-day pass to Sintakaoka station. You can save much money, and then taking the train to Stakaoka station. Have a nice vacation!

This incredibly beautiful park, is only a few minutes walk from the famous Takaoka Daibutsu (Great Buddha) and is both free, and open 24 hours. It was once the site of the Takaoka Castle however there is almost no evidence of the castle remaining. It is most definately worth a visit.

Takaoka Castle Ruins, located in a leafy park known for its spring cherry blossoms, is the site of the 17th-century Takaoka Castle built by Toshinaga Maeda. The castle's stone walls still stand today and are surrounded by three water moats. The vast site also features shrines, a museum, a zoo, restaurants, and other facilities.
Takaoka Castle Ruins, now part of Takaoka Kojo Park, is a fascinating historical site that blends history with natural beauty. While the original castle no longer stands, the remnants of its moats, stone walls, and layout offer a glimpse into its past as an important Edo-period fortress built by Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga Domain.
Wisanu T — Google review
The site features a magnificent stone structure and exterior formations of a 17th century Japanese castle. It is the only castle site in Japan that remains almost completely intact. Unfortunately, the castle buildings no longer exist, but there is plenty to enjoy. For castle enthusiasts, this is a site with a lot to see. There is a large free parking lot near the site. There is also no admission fee.

This is a great destination for flower lovers when they're in season. In addition to its famous cherry blossoms, it has heritage plum trees with a variety of different colors of blossom. It's also family friendly with a zoo and spacious park grounds. There are a variety of full facilities, including some excellent restaurants. Do keep in mind that it's nationally famous and so can become incredibly crowded during it's busy seasons.

The castle, or statues were okay to look at. The park is the real draw. With no English signs it was not possible to understand the significance or back story of the location. Sat under the pagoda with the golden Phoenix/crane and ate a snack before heading on to the park portion of the grounds.

Uozu Aquarium is a compact aquatic attraction that showcases both marine and freshwater creatures, including a diverse collection of fish species. The facility also boasts a captivating penguin exhibit where visitors can observe these charismatic birds being fed. Moreover, guests can explore an underwater viewing tunnel for a unique perspective on life beneath the surface. Although renovations or updates may be necessary, Uozu Aquarium remains an affordable destination suitable for families with children seeking to bond over nature's wonders.
A small yet impressively diverse aquarium in terms of species variety. Many of the animals on display are ones we’ve never seen in any other aquarium before. The deep-sea section is particularly fascinating and a true highlight. The entire exhibit is very child-friendly, with tanks, aquariums, and terrariums thoughtfully positioned at the perfect height for young visitors. You’ll spend around an hour here, making it ideal for a short visit. On the downside, some of the tanks are quite small and a bit outdated. Nevertheless, it’s a great spot for a brief stopover and definitely worth a visit.
Yasmin G — Google review
Honestly it's pretty great, I've visited a lot of aquariums and this is really the perfect size and location if you have (younger) kids or just for couple hours, it's not like a full day affair that the bigger aquariums are. It's interesting and just long enough for them to stay intrigued, there's a wide selection of weird fish, large central viewing pool with a tunnel, some jelly fish, amazonian / tropical jungle river animals, and even doctor fish you can touch at the end which kids will love. Couple seals and even penguins. Theres a place to each outside serving your standard selection of ramen, udon , curry etc basically easy staples at reasonable price. A large park right next to the place with some slides and activities and an amusement park ( free to enter) across the street with various rides and a bug trampoline for kids up to 12 years old can use. All in all totally worth your time for a easy relaxing day out with minimal logistics for a family or just a date.

Toyama Station is a key transportation hub in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. It serves both locals and tourists, providing easy access to various attractions and the airport. The station area offers a range of eateries and gift shops, making it convenient for travelers. One must-try dish recommended by locals is the shiroebi ten-don (white-shrimp tempura over rice) available at an establishment on the ground floor of the station.

Small but very complete Shinkansen(Hokuriku line), rail, tram & bus station in Toyama, Japan. Good connection to Alpine Route. Has a department store/restaurant building next it it. Small, but easily accessible. Great onigiri store. Has a convenience store & several restaurants including a McDonalds. Very good seafood - Toyama is known for its seafood & skiing nearby.

A huge station with complete facilities and easy access. What I love the most is the integrated tram system right inside the building, so you can easily hop right from the shinkansen gate to explore the city without walking too far. The JR West office also provides us with the unique design of ICOCA cards! Easily one of the best JR train stations in all of Japan.

The Hokuriku Shinkansen line was extended to this station in 2015, and the station building was beautifully renovated. There are some souvenir shops, restaurants, and hotels adjoining the station building. The tram is convenient for sightseeing. It is interesting that there are many designs of cars, classical one, advanced one, imitated police car, and so on.

Station is not too big but has all the amenities that you may need. Comfortable waiting areas and clean restrooms. Staff was helpful for nonnative speakers. I don’t know the language and was able to easily get around quickly. Much busier on Sunday than it was on Friday.

A JR station stop on the Hokuriku shinkansen line, and a great jumping off point to many excellent local train routes - including Takayama Line for Takayama and connection to Shirakawa, or Toyama Chiho Railway to Tateyama and enroute to Kurobe Alpine Route including Murodo, Kurobe Dam, etc. Gentetsu Toyama local train station is right next door. A big station with souvenirs store, nearby malls such as Maroot and Kitokito market Toyamarche.
Saifu A — Google review
Beautiful station with the Shinkansen, JR local trains, Hida Express and local street car all in one spot. Has food venues but not as many like Osaka, Nagoya or Tokyo. The waiting areas are clean and modern. There are plenty of lockers, vending machines, tourist information department, help desk, 7 Eleven, and a few cafes. They even had a farmer's market outside when I stopped by. There is a decent mall that is also connected. What isn't there to like?

I believe that Taiko-yama land is best place with kid's to go in Toyama prefecture! As you can see from the map, you can walk and run also ride the bike furthermore ride the boat in the huge park. In addition, you can rent bike not only by your self but with your kid's. The remark for me is Kodomo mirai kan( KId's future building) In this building there are some big jungle gym from ground floor to 3rd floor! kid's can climb every floor and steps and tube. In Toyama prefecture, there are many rainy days and heavy snow in winter season, so such kind of indoor facilities are very good for kid's health and free from the weather stress. You had better to bring lunch-box.There is few stores in this park.

Kansui Park Boarding Dock of Fugan Suijo Line offers a delightful solar-powered pleasure cruise along the scenic Fugan Canal. Visitors can board at Kansui Park and embark on a round trip C course, enjoying picturesque views along the canal and receiving informative guidance from onboard staff.

Good fun taking a cruise down to the lock. Relatively quiet on a weekday - not sure how the weekend might look. Unfortunately we couldn't make the times for the visit to the port so we just did the round trip back to the park. But it was interesting to visit the control room and see the lock in action. Commentary mostly in Japanese when we went - as expected and the guide was very helpful and tried to explain as much as he could

This was on the top of my list of "things to do" in Toyama... I love boats, and this was a brilliant trip, and a good excuse to go to the beach down in Iwase. If you get a ticket to Iwase, you don't get a return ticket by boat, but they do provide a tram ticket to take you back. I really enjoyed going through the Nakajima lock and experiencing a water elevator, and I loved getting a look at all the surrounding areas from the river, and all the bugs and birds! There is a tour guide, but this is in Japanese only. It was definitely worth the money! I recommend taking the route the full way to Iwase and spending the day there or afternoon there.

(Translated by Google) It was not long after the end of the rainy season, and we boarded the boat in the heat, with the wind hardly pleasant. It was a 7km cruise down the Tomiwa Canal from Tomiwa Canal Kansui Park to Iwase. The water was freshwater up to Nakajima Lock, and after that it was seawater. At Nakajima Lock, the drop from the sea was about 2.5m, and the water level adjustment was impressive to be able to feel the change with the naked eye. We went downhill for a while, and the sea breeze was pleasant, and the distant Tateyama mountain range was reflected in the blue sky, creating a magnificent sight. At that time, the Fugan Canal was built to facilitate the transport of materials to the industrial area along the old river, and the surrounding area was completely filled in. Currently, the logistics network has changed and the canal is no longer in use, and the Fugan Suijo Line sightseeing boat operates on it. This time, we took the approximately one-hour C course (round trip to Nakajima Lock, 2,000 yen). Nice experience going through the Nakajima lock. 60minutes to Iwase and 30min tram ride back to Toyama train station. ¥2500 each adult. Only 2 boat trips per day on weekdays all the way to/from Iwase. Would've been good if they provide audio commentary in English. Only Japanese tour guide was providing commentary.

We did the long tour from the park to the harbour. It's important to know that the lock is the highlight of this tour. We were hoping to see a lot of the city and some beautiful scenery but it's mostly just construction sites and industrial buildings. Consider it's free to entery, it's a great place to view the city on a lovely day. We were lucky with the weather, and it was a short wait for the lift going to the observation floor also. Perhaps not many know about it, so it wasn't crowded at all. Since the observation floor isn't that big, a good 10 minute visit would be enough. Right in front of the building, there is a river with cherry blossom tress on both sides, perfect for the camera. We actually spent more time taking photos downstairs.

This family park zoo is a treasure trove of many animals! Despite the light rain, we were lucky to see red squirrel, wild boar, giraffes, zebras, pink flamingos many more! There is a petting area for goats as well. Highlight is the black bear. It's a perfect blend of education and entertainment for the whole family.

A very well organized and maintained family-oriented park. The zoo is reasonably priced with a great variety of animals. Giraffe and wolf feeding (free) is possible during weekends and national holidays. Surprisingly the zoo holds a large numbear of different chicken that relates to ancient Japanese time. Some chicken were bred for appearance, some are for their sound, and of course some are for food. Giraffe diner here offer really delicious food. Overall this is a great park to hangout for a full day.

It is a zoo in Toyama. The place is quite huge. A lot of interesting animal collections. It is easily navigated. However I think the overall place and the animal situations is under maintenance. Some animals look malnourished. Soma cages was not so clean. It is probably the financial situation. The park also equipped with some attractions such as merry go round, mini roller coaster, and tiny pedal boat in a small lake. You can enjoy the attractions for 200 yen flat. For the boat 800 yen for 15 minutes. At the time we came, it was almost empty so the place felt like our own. We spent all day to enjoy all the park offered. The entrance ticket for the zoo is 500 yen. If you come using public transport please planned it carefully cause only few busses go there. Recommended route is to stop at Kureha station and take the city bus which cost only 100 yen. However this bus only run 3-4 times a day from the station.

A very classic scene of Doraemon, and perfect for fans. However the park is only with this part having such theme, other than that would be a common local park, with many autumn leaves and stunning view during sunset. Visited by the end of Nov. Plenty of parking places

Interesting place to visits in takaoka, have some doraemon statue and very playful and challenging slides and playground for kids..very open spaced place and strategically placed vending machines and toilets..got a moderate parking spaces, good to visit during spring and falls..summer also good, but sometimes too hot for the kids..also got observation deck with moderate scenary, as well as indoor children playground..just quite difficult to access without cars, not very close to train station and public transport..anyway, enjoyed some time here~

That was a very nice experienced. An unplanned visit with my friends with our kiddos. We plan to visit again soon. It’s a very beautiful and very nice viewing on night. Spend time with love ones enjoying the millions of lights in the city.

Great place for “The Wall” Mt. Tateyama in a sunny day! Love the view There are 4-5 parking spaces in front also there a park lot nearby. Must see when you are in Toyama. I personally think it’s better view than Starbucks since it’s higher and wider.

Kaiwomaru is a popular ship museum and park located near Toyama Bay, just a short distance from Kaiomaru Railway Station. The central attraction of the park is the majestic sailing ship Kaiwo Maru, also known as "Lady of the Sea," which dates back to 1930. Visitors can explore the nautical exhibits and take tours on this traditional vessel.
A very beautiful heart warming destination which I would love to go once in every month with all my family. You can enjoy great view of long and spacious bridge which runs right through the sea which looks too good. You can see huge ships and even get inside it and see all the inner details as well. You can have a brief tour of the surroundings on a small boat. Beautiful flowers blooming all around. The parking is so huge that i don’t think that it ever gets out of space. Toilets , washrooms and faucets are available at every point. You don’t need to run back to the first washroom you saw while entering. They have lots of it so clean and maintained at every corner. There’s a view tower form where you can see beautiful Himalayan range of mount Tateyama and other and even enjoy the beautiful view of ocean and lighthouses. Overall, it’s highly recommended from my side. If possible, I would go there every once in a while.

I highly recommend this place to spend a relaxed afternoon with family. The park is clean, spacious, and beautifully located right by the sea with fresh sea breezes, views over Toyama Bay and, on a good day, even the Tateyama Mountain Range.

At this Kaio-maru park, Of course you can enjoy the great vista of Tateyama mountain range and Kaiyo-maru harmony. You can enter the Kaio-maru ship inside, and some time you can enjoy ship ride, please check the schedule before going to this park. But the highlight of this park is wave-shaped jungle gym made by rope. This scale is biggest one for my experience, so you can enjoy this playing equipment with your kids. There is some shop for having lunch, but my choice is to bring my own lunch box. To have rice ball outside seeing mountain and sea at same time is very good entertainment for busy persion.

Beautiful place in cherry blossom season🌸 Not even a glimpse of foreign tourist on the day I visited, perhaps due to the bad weather. Just a few local visitors, and the place is so pretty and peaceful. The lady who is a park keeper is very nice too, who proactively lend a hand to take pictures with me and my husband. Nice park memorializing the dam built along the river here. There are some restaurants, shops, and both paid and free museums. Kid friendly. They also have occasional festivals here. It's worth a stop if you're in the area and interested in learning more about local woodworking traditions. Free restrooms are also available, as is a simple bicycle station. We took a bus from Matsumoto bus terminal and got off at Taisho Pond. Then continue walking to Kappa Bridge Kamikochi. Along the way, we enjoy the beautiful views. Along a clear and clean river. While taking photos of trees with leaves starting to turn yellow, wow that's cool. Especially with several mountains in the background. The road is very friendly for elderly people, flat and clean. Assisted by clear information boards regarding directions, types of plants and much more. The good thing is that there are lots of clean, well-maintained toilet facilities.

Spectacular views that are quite easily reached by public transport. Lots of accommodation available in the mountains too. If you like hiking and mountaineering, you will love this national park.

Chubu-Sangaku is an incredible vista of a huge National Park dotted with high alpine mountain peaks. It's popular for the mountain ridge walks, as well as summiting one or more of the mountain peaks. If one is more interested in less strenuous and shorter hikes, then many options await including the Kurobe Alpine Route traveling from the west side through Tateyama, Murodo, Kurobe dam, etc. or Kamikochi from the east side. You could not go wrong with either one of those options and will be treated to a beautiful mountain vistas.

A lovely place fore novice and experienced hikers. The accommodations there however are more premium and less hiking style. I recommend the camp site. I've had seen comparisons to Yosemite before. Don't be fooled, it's a very nice place but nothing like Yosemite. They are both valleys and have bears, there the similarity ends. If you get lucky you get to see some monkeys :) Oh and always bring bad weather gear.

When in Toyama, Japan, experiencing the beauty of cherry blossoms along the Matsukawa River is a must. The river, located at the heart of Toyama City, boasts hundreds of cherry blossom trees that create a stunning sight during spring and autumn. Visitors can also enjoy night illumination to witness the enchanting view. A popular activity is taking a river cruise to admire the cherry blossom tunnel. While boat trips may be costly, walking along the riverside provides an equally delightful experience.

Matsukawa River Cherry Blossoms @ Toyama 🌸 – Quiet Visit with a Scenic Boat Ride We visited on Monday, April 14, and by then the sakura season had mostly ended. Most cherry blossoms had already fallen, leaving behind a quiet and peaceful riverside atmosphere. To make the most of our visit, we joined the nearby Matsukawa Pleasure Boat ride, which turned out to be a highlight. The boat driver gave lively introductions to the local history, nature, and surrounding buildings, making the ride both relaxing and informative. Although full bloom had passed, we still spotted a few late-blooming sakura trees at the turning point of the cruise—adding a beautiful and unexpected touch to the experience. A calm and meaningful visit, especially for families looking to enjoy Toyama’s charm beyond peak blossom season.

(Translated by Google) On both sides of the Matsukawa River, the stretching cherry blossom trees are like a pink ribbon, gently surrounding this ancient city. When the tour boat cuts through the water quietly, your sight is surrounded by cherry blossoms blooming on both sides. It was an almost dreamy pink-white, with layers upon layers, covering the branches like a veil. The breeze blew, and the petals fell like snow, creating circles of pink ripples on the water. The boat moves slowly, and time seems to stand still at this moment. There was no loud noise, just the gentle sound of paddling and the sound of cherry blossoms whispering in the wind. The air is filled with a light floral fragrance, fresh and sweet, refreshing. Occasionally, a few pieces of fallen cherry blossoms would fall on the clothes, as softly as a silent kiss. Sitting on the boat, let your thoughts ripple with the water. The former Toyama Castle now only has mottled stone walls left, but the blooming cherry blossoms, with their vigorous vitality, add a touch of gentle color to this ancient city. This cherry blossom viewing on the water is not only a visual enjoyment, but also a spiritual dialogue with spring and nature. When the tour boat slowly docked, the pink dream still lingered in my heart. The cherry blossoms in Matsukawa, with their quiet and elegant posture, leave a gentle and unforgettable mark deep in the memory of travelers. The poetry flowing on the water will become more mellow and long as time goes by.

You drive up a hill that makes you wonder, "Wait, do we have to climb from there?" The road is steep and so narrow you can't pass oncoming vehicles. In fact, when I went, one car got stuck. There are only about 10 official parking spaces, so everyone parked in the spaces that were designated as such. There is also a small parking lot near the barbecue area. The cherry blossoms bloom all along the mountain slope, so you can enjoy a stroll while viewing the flowers, which is also good for your health. There are chairs everywhere, so you can sit and eat your lunch. There were also quite a few restrooms. It's best to keep an eye on small children, as they may fall down the slope and get into trouble if you leave them unattended. There are cliffs nearby. Railroad company
The Toyama Chiho Railway, known for its scenic route, takes passengers to a small hot spring village and the Kurobe Gorge Railway. The latter operates from late April to November due to heavy snowfall in December. Travelers can also enjoy a ride on retro streetcars and experience the unique atmosphere of these vintage trains. Despite some challenges with fare payment and occasional negative reviews, many visitors have had positive experiences with the railway's sightseeing opportunities.
(Translated by Google) I wanted to see the Sea of Japan at Iwasehama Beach, so I went from Toyama Station to Iwasehama. I want to ride a cool streetcar. [Touch with watermelon when getting off] I got on the train from Toyama Station, but when I got off the train as I was riding in the back, I had to ask the driver to check at the front door, but I didn't realize that I was paying, and since the front door was open, I touched a watermelon as usual. Then the driver said, ``Pay when you get off.'' How far? I'll make sure you don't touch it when you get off.'' When I touched the card when I got on it, it seemed like it was withdrawn. [The tram is like a bus] Just like a bus, you press the button when you hear the announcement of the station you want to get off at. [A mixture of tram and railway] From Toyama Station, the tram is a tram for a while, but halfway through it starts running on tracks like a regular railway. I'm not very familiar with streetcars, so it feels strange. [Fixed price is 210 yen] The place you touch the watermelon and the card used by locals are different. If it's a card used by locals, the fee will be 180 yen. No one pays any attention to people who just hang up the phone, and are there only people who just hang up the phone as a matter of course? The main attraction in this park is its fountain, which is good for kids to play in during the summer. However, because all of the surrounding public buildings are smoke-free, during weekdays it's the preferred smoke break spot for many of the prefectural workers who smoke, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars, as that makes it less family friendly than it otherwise would be. (Translated by Google) I took pictures of Toyama Prefecture's Gofuku Park, a spot for autumn leaves in Toyama at the end of October ♪ I wanted to photograph the autumn leaves of the ginkgo trees, so I took a walk around the sports plaza, baseball field, former Toyama Commercial High School site, Toyama Prefectural Baseball Stadium, and Toyama Athletic Stadium. . The weather was perfect for sports, and many children and adults enjoyed walking and playing sports under the blue skies. The parking lot was spacious and I was able to visit with peace of mind❗️ (Original)

(Translated by Google) It's my favorite place. There's a gazebo and a water supply. There's also an old lady who cleans the toilets, so they're well looked after. It's relatively safe, but you can use it with confidence. It's a toilet on a mountain road, so it's okay, but there are fewer people using it, so the level of patience is less than in the surrounding areas.
