The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, is the city's tallest building and a landmark concert venue with stunning views of the harbor. Visitors can explore historical landmarks like the Hamburg Rathaus and St. Michael's Church, enjoy concerts at various musical venues including the Elbphilharmonie, and take tours of the harbor area.
Beautiful building, architecture and imaginative space. You can visit for free and just go up the two escalators and there you can walk outside the viewing platform. To get a ticket just go up to the kiosk and state how many, it's free.Youll see QR codes but don't scan them as you pay a small fee but they allow fast track,so unless you're short of time or the queue is really long you could do that but you'll all going in the same direction. Its open till late too and nice views at sunset.
Brian F — Google review
I recently visited this striking building in Hamburg, and it truly exceeded my expectations. Architecturally, it is a masterpiece—modern, innovative, and with a sense of elegance that immediately stands out. The design is both cutting-edge and inviting, and the panoramic views it offers over the city and the harbor are absolutely breathtaking. It’s one of those landmarks that feels both futuristic and seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Hamburg. One of the aspects I really appreciated is the accessibility. Entrance is free, although you need to queue in order to receive a timed ticket to pass through the turnstiles. The process is well organized, and while there can be a wait, it is usually manageable. For those who prefer not to stand in line, there is the option to purchase a “skip-the-line” ticket for just a few euros, which I found to be very convenient and worth considering during peak hours. Inside, the atmosphere continues to impress. The space is bright, airy, and beautifully maintained, offering plenty of opportunities to take in the surroundings at your own pace. The store located within the building is also worth a visit: it is stylish, well-curated, and features a nice selection of souvenirs and design objects that reflect the spirit of Hamburg. Overall, this building is much more than just a viewpoint—it’s a cultural and architectural highlight that combines innovation, beauty, and accessibility. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience one of the most remarkable perspectives of Hamburg.

It’s free to go up to the terrace and enjoy a panoramic view of Hamburg from above. There’s an automatic escalator that takes you up. At the top, you’ll find a café and a restaurant, and you can also bring your own food to enjoy there.
Ayşe ( — Google review
Beautiful building. We were lucky enough to visit it free of cost. The entrance was allowrd and security was present even at 10pm because of a performance there. I heard that by 2026 entrance won't be free. The building offers free panoramic view over the city. I recommend taking ferry 72 from Lanndungsbrucke which drops one directly to the building. The view of this building over water is amazing.
Rabia R — Google review
View from the rooftop is nice, free entry (need to get a free ticket at door). I have been there twice, the first time is a gloomy workday in November, and there is no wait. The second time it gets quite crowded on a sunny weekend afternoon. There is a long queue for getting the free ticket, but there is also the option of paying 3 euro to skip the queue.
Mingtong Z — Google review
Nice experience, nice view! Be mindful of the wind gusts when strolling on the terrace. It can get pretty windy. The view and building architecture is stunning.
Eduard G — Google review
A stunning blend of architecture and acoustics! The curved glass façade and harbor view are breathtaking. The plaza’s sound, space, and light feel perfectly balanced — a must-see icon of modern Hamburg.
Huu V — Google review
Lovely building to spend some time wandering and taking in the views even if you're not watching an event. Small bar and food offerings too. Top tip: don't pre-book online at a cost! It's free to enter by collecting a ticket at the kiosk right beside the entrance. Funky little travelator takes you up and down to the viewing platform.

Miniatur Wunderland is a must-visit attraction in Hamburg, featuring the world's largest model train exhibit. The miniature recreations of famous global sites such as Hamburg, Austria, and Scandinavia are incredibly detailed, with animated elements like planes taking off and lights simulating sunset and sunrise. It's a popular tourist spot for visitors of all ages, offering guided tours through its intricate landscapes and bustling cities.
Absolutely amazing experience. One can spend hours here. Of course Kids gonna love it but I I found mostly adults on that day cherishing entire replica of famous cities with excruciating details as a miniature world. One can see and admire all that work gone into planning an execution of this world over the years. One of its kind experience not to be missed. The entry ticket is 20 euros but definitely worth it.
Naman S — Google review
Wonderful experience, details are incredible, as well as the perfect scaling and diversity of scenes presented. 100% positive memory. Being an adult doesn’t mean itself not for you! Maybe ever better than being a kid. The day/night alternation gives it a magical touch. WOW
Leonardo D — Google review
Wooooow! Amazing place with a unique experience that lets you walk through different parts of the globe. I loved how much attention to detail was put into everything, and the design often includes funny little scenarios—like taking a bath with a penguin or the sheep pyramid! It’s incredibly creative, yet the landscapes still feel realistic. The night and day versions of the cities are a very cool twist. Also, all the robotics and technology behind the functioning train system—without any crashes—is mind-blowing. I especially enjoyed getting a behind-the-scenes look at the newest addition. One thing to note: it’s a huge place to explore, so plan your visit accordingly to give yourself enough time to enjoy it without rushing from room to room. It can also get quite busy, so be patient and dedicate a full day if possible. There’s a café and food area if you want to take a break during your visit. Definitely recommend it! I’d love to come back and get even more lost in the details.

Amazing place for a visit especially with children although you don’t need kids to enjoy this amazing place.. the workmanship is just phenomenal. Pictures don’t do it justice. €20 for adult €17 concessions and €12.50 for kids worth every penny. Cloakroom and lockers for your stuff.50 cents and a canteen and gift shop Footnote please make sure you book online as we were in a line and had only late entry to get in so we had to get a early entry next day but that was nearly sold out also ..
Glyn ( — Google review
Fantastic venue. Everything feels grounded and made by people who know what visitors will want to have or need. The exhibition itself is spectacular. Lots of details and stories are told ... Sometimes very hidden. Food is fine. Okay price. Reminded me of IKEA. There could be more washrooms. Also, the regular ticket isn't valid for reentry. That's a bit of a bummer since opening hours are until 1am.
Robert K — Google review
Amazing attraction. We purchased tickets well in advance and got lucky, wasn't too busy. The scenery displays are magnificent, and now perhaps has got too big? We went as a couple, but seen visitors young and old enjoying the quirky funny characters placed within the miniature towns. Very close to city and other attractions such as the Elbphilharmonie, U Boat Museum, shopping etc.
W T — Google review
Must visit if you're in Hamburg! The miniature work done is just amazing. We didn't get tickets online inspite of trying for days on a weekday and so we decided to just walk in. We were told at the entrance to wait approx 1 hour which we agreed to. The waiting area is good with free unlimited juice/water but subsidized price tea/coffee and many activities for kids and we barely waited for 10 mins and we got an entry to the Miniature land which was surprisingly quick. There is an Garderobe service for a price at enterance which we utilised but later on realised there are free cabinets to keep your stuff once you go inside. There are restaurants at different levels with really good food also lots of vegetarian options and very minimal priced which was the best thing. One can easily spend 2-3 hrs going around.Overall highly recommend
Sheetal G — Google review
Visited there in September 2023. Fantastic must visit place for all ages if you are at Hamburg, full day will be vanished unknowingly. Gift shop and bistro is there inside the miniature. Entry fees applicable €20 per adult and children upto 1 metre length is free. Ticket can be booked online and less crowded hours booking will be best choice, however we visit there in a weekdays to avoid crowds but we found full of crowd. A spectacular miniature from various famous locations and cities around the world spanning over 3 floors. The details and quality of the models is outstanding and so realistic. Using Souvenir Medaille press your own penny (Only 1 & 5 cent) into a souvenir design for long lasting your memory.

Alster Lakes, located in the heart of Hamburg, is a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. The sprawling lake is surrounded by verdant parks and historic mansions, making it popular among joggers and kayakers. It's a great place to start your day in Hamburg with a leisurely stroll around the 160-hectare man-made lake. You can grab a coffee from one of the many cafes or even try some unconventional breakfast options like ice cream from Luicella's.
The Alster Lakes in Hamburg offer a escape within the city, perfect for outdoor activities, trail around lake is ideal for running and walking. For water activities, the lakes provide opportunities for kayaking and paddling, and rentals are available. In my experience, the Alster Lakes stand out as the best nature spot near Hamburg, offering a blend of scenic beauty and recreational options. I really liked it.
Stefan — Google review
My go to running route during my 1 week stay in Hamburg. I personally find this is the best place to run in Hamburg as it is uninterrupted and the whole lake clockwise/anticlockwise is about 4km. For runners, most part of the runs are on trails but they are use granites etc. Entire stretch of the lake are well maintained and three are many ducks and swans around. Would suggest going early morning as the whole place will be crowded late afternoon onwards.
Terence Y — Google review
The Alster Lakes area is absolutely dreamy. It's a great spot to watch the sail boats, the ducks, the people out for a stroll or a run. I sat on one of the benches for a bit and then walked into the city from there. What a treat for people living or visiting that area of the city. I enjoyed it so much that I booked a boat tour of both the Inner and Outer Lakes today.
Irma Z — Google review
Outer Alster Lake is the larger one of two artificial lakes, which are formed by the Alster River and are both located within the city limits of Hamburg. Its shores are used by the inhabitants of Hamburg for many sport and recreational purposes, such as sailing and rowing.

Planten un Blomen, which means "Plants and Flowers" in Low German, is a captivating urban park spanning over 100 acres in Hamburg. It features themed gardens such as a rose garden, Mediterranean terraces, and one of Europe's largest Japanese landscaped gardens. Visitors can also explore a tropical greenhouse with otherworldly plants and enjoy free daily fountain shows set to music from jazz to Beethoven between April and September.
This is a must see if you are going to be in Hamburg! It’s great for all ages. Put on your walking shoes and enjoy the sights and wonderful aromas of the flowers and herbs. So many plants to see. I would recommend bringing a lunch/snack and just hang out in one of the many places to sit, relax and enjoy this wonderful space.
Rose T — Google review
A nice symphony of light and music in a beautiful garden/park. Be there at least one hour before the evening show, as it quickly gets crowded in the summer and vacation times. Bring some food and drinks and enjoy a 30 minute show for free.
Troels M — Google review
What a peaceful park in the middle of the city center! It’s easy to reach by public transport. You can walk, run, or sit on the benches while watching the sunset. The atmosphere is calm, with many ponds and lovely birds. People walk their dogs, and it feels very relaxing. I ate my salad here and rested for a while. The botanical garden was temporarily closed, but the park is still beautiful and definitely worth a visit.
Ayşe ( — Google review
Big and great park! Some flaws though; Many of the parts of the park were very worn and there was no water in many of the places designed for water. In all, though, a very nice place! Fantastic "rooms" of plants to discover. I highly recomend a visit when in Hamburg!
Jonas S — Google review
Very lovely park for a walk during a beautiful, warm summer's day. Highly recommend it if you need a little breather from the city and need to see some pretty nature and maybe have an ice cream or so from one of the the nearby stalls.

Dockland in Hamburg is an architectural masterpiece and a must-visit for those who appreciate modern design and panoramic city views. Located along the Elbe River, this striking, ship-shaped office building extends over the water, offering a unique visual appeal. Designed by Hadi Teherani, it stands out with its sharp angles and sleek glass façade, reflecting Hamburg’s maritime heritage while embodying contemporary elegance. One of its biggest highlights is the public rooftop terrace, which is accessible via an external staircase with around 140 steps. St. Michael's Church, also known as Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis, is a prominent Baroque Lutheran church in Hamburg. Its 132-meter-tall copper-covered spire makes it a standout landmark in the city. Visitors can ascend the tower, locally referred to as 'Michel,' using stairs or an elevator to enjoy panoramic views of the city and port, especially during extended evening openings.
Nice church, huge, very grand and spectacular. Our timing could have been better, they were having service on Easter so we didn't see much of the inside. But it looked like it was certainly worth experiencing both inside and out. Would have loved to have been able to go up the tower and see the crypt!
Richard — Google review
St. Michael’s Church is a very beautiful and famous place in Hamburg. The building is big and impressive from outside, and inside it looks peaceful and bright. You can also go up to the tower and see a great view of the whole city. It is a nice place to visit for history, architecture, and quiet time.
Kunal — Google review
Very good National Landmark to visit in Berlin because of different reasons. The arquitecture and history are some of the most important facts to learn at this location, but also specially the view! Take the elevator or walk up the tower, it's "only" 500 steps! Once at the top enjoy the incredible views from Hamburg! Very recommendable spot to discover in Hamburg!
Real T — Google review
I would highly recommend visiting St Michael's church as the view from the top of the tower is probably the best in the city! To go up there is a small side building to buy your tickets and any souvenirs you may want, we only got the tower tickets at around €8 each. To get there you have to climb a few sets of stairs before reaching the main elevator to the top. Once on top of the tower you'll have full 360 panoramic views of the city, just beware the bell does still ring up the top and it made my friends and I jump!

St. Michael’s Church is a must-visit in Hamburg! We went up the tower – it’s the highest viewpoint in the city, and the view is absolutely stunning. The entry fee is only 8 euros, which is honestly a bargain for such a breathtaking panorama. There were quite a few people, but the elevator made the climb easy and fast. Totally worth it!
Khusein K — Google review
Beautiful architecture. Absolutely worth the fee to climb the tower, the view is amazing. 555 steps up, with a few exhibits along the way.
Valerie H — Google review
We had a blast at St. Michael's Church today! The view from the tower of Hamburg was incredible. There is an elevator but be sure to either walk up or take the stairs down so you can see the tower clock mechanics! The crypt wasn't great, but seeing CPE Bach's burial spot was awesome, especially for a music lover. 😉 The church itself is gorgeous, and we even got to hear an organ concert with all three main instruments. The acoustics were amazing – like a 5-second reverb! Go on a Saturday morning by 11:30 for the noon concert/service.
Jeff A — Google review
Impressive in scale and beauty. Amazing inside and out, with a very large pipe organ. It must be an amazing experience when that is being played. We were lucky to catch a concert rehearsal, which filled the chamber with beautiful music.

The St. Nikolai Memorial in Hamburg, Germany, stands as a poignant symbol of the city's resilience and remembrance following the devastation of World War II. The church was heavily damaged during Allied bombing raids and now serves as a museum and memorial to the victims of oppression and conflict. The remaining ruins offer a solemn tribute to the horrors of war, while also providing visitors with an opportunity to imagine its former grandeur.
An old monument with some nice views of the city near Hfen city district. An elevator which takes you up the tower. Significant history attached to it. The ticket involves an underground museum. The museum has toilets. Good place to see & visit while exploring Hamburg
Eshant S — Google review
Impressive, special, up the bell tower (there is an elevator) a perfect view of the old city and the harbor...but mostly a moving place that reminds us all how terrible war is. It is important to visit the museum located at the base of the bell tower.
Ilan I — Google review
Fascinating place to visit; tragic to see the destruction caused by fire and then war, but still amazing to see the detail of the construction of the spire. Take the lift to see it close up and get amazing views of the city of Hamburg.
Malcolm D — Google review
A good view at the top of the tower, however is obstructed a bit by all the bars (in place for safety). We bought tickets but doesn’t seem managed properly so anyone could probably just walk in. Similarly, there is no controls in place to manage the amount of people going up and down so can get quite crowded. Be warned it is very windy but does let you see all of Hamburg. Costs very little and you get access to the museum below.
Thomas R — Google review
A cheap and cool way to see the entirety of Hamburg, provided you don't mind the bars and obstruction. Ticket was cheap and it includes access to the underground museum that talks about the church's history, a sad one really. Definitely recommend visiting it! Also looks very cool from outside
Dragos B — Google review
I really enjoyed visiting St. Nicolai in Hamburg. The views from the tower are stunning and offer a great panorama of the city. The building itself, though in ruins, is very impressive and has a fascinating history. Highly recommended if you’re interested in architecture or history.
Álvaro R — Google review
There’s an elevator that brings you up to see the view at 5 euros. The memorial is a place with rich history. The church was bombed during World War II and you can stand within its remains. Some of the walls can still be seen. A humbling reminder of the painful past and the lives disrupted.
Gwen — Google review
A very interesting church with an intriguing and equally sad history. It's such a shame that the church didn't survive the bombing. However, the tower is amazing. You can get up with an elevator (€6 for adults, €5 for students, big groups and reduced fares, and €4.5 for kids). The price is a little steep for a single elevator ride...but, the view is amazing. Truly breathtaking, great views of the Port and Rathaus!

Begin your day with a stunning view of one of Hamburg's most famous landmarks, the Landungsbrücken. This historic pier and floating island, built in 1839, was once the departure point for many emigrating to the New World. Today, it serves as a starting point for harbor sightseeing tours. The iconic 420-meter-long clock tower not only tells time but also features a water level indicator.
This place is one of the best outdoors in Hamburg. It's a beehive of activities and tourists movements on a warm weather day. You can take a free ship ride on the Elbe river, take coffee and enjoy the sea view. You can also shop for lovely Hamburg souvenirs and take awesome photos!
Aishat O — Google review
Useful station at the river edge with lots to do around it. This area of town is well worth a trip of visiting the area or want to explore the river edge
Daniel A — Google review
excels in its ability to paint a comprehensive picture. It's not just about the bustling ferries or the architectural grandeur; it's about the people who frequent the docks, the historical weight of the place, and the ever-changing light on the Elbe River. The slower pace allows for a deeper appreciation of the details—the salty air, the distant cry of a seagull, the intricate ironwork of the bridges.
Amro A — Google review
Landungsbruecken is the jumping off point at the Hamburg harbor for tourists and tourist related commerce. It's all about boat trips, snack stands and gift shops. It is super crowded in the summer and pleasant in the off-season. Learn where to go by asking locals. Ferries drop you off at one point but pickup is often far away. Know your connection numbers and names, so you can ask quickly as the crowds push you along. Restrooms are tough to find and pay only. Go to a brick and mortar place for a sit down meal and amenities like toilets.

The International Maritime Museum Hamburg is housed in the historic Kaispeicher B, one of the oldest warehouses in Hamburg. With 10 floors dedicated to maritime history, it offers a diverse collection of model ships, art, uniforms, and photographs. Each floor has a unique theme, from voyages of discovery to serving on board and maritime art spanning over 400 years. Visitors can also marvel at a Lego model of the Queen Mary 2 made from almost one million Lego blocks.
This place was really great. I think its 8 floors of maritime history. Everything from how ancient ships were made, to mlthe modernization of shipping and ports, to unmanned underwater systems. There are a ton of models, and every floor has something interactive to assist in the learning and understanding of topics. They are kid friendly, though limited space for child buggies. I would definitely dedicate at least half a day if you want to see it all.

Wow, I've seen a few maritime museums, but nothing comes close to this one. An absolute treasure trove of maritime history from when man first started crossing water. Seriously, this has to be the best in the world, or really close to it. If there's a better one, I'd be surprised. Don't miss it when in Hamburg!
Graeme S — Google review
An amazingly full museum where you can spend more than 4 hours!!! It's got 9 floors with different themes, from Ancient to Renaissance ships, going up to WW2, and also some yachts and cruise ships in there. Also you get to see lots of ship-related replicas and models. Incredibly fun and interesting, worth visiting!
Dragos B — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed the museum. Very comprehensive collection and well displayed. 10 floors of artifacts! Scale models, beautiful art works, engine plant displays, weapons, anything to do with maritime history and also it's connection to Hamburg. Highly recommended!
Jerry B — Google review
What an amazing museum! This was not my first visit, but I discovered something new yet again! Pitty that the part on slave boats & trade is no longer included. The floor with models is simply mind-blowing with the amount of details as well as the quantity. Fantastic job!
X K — Google review
There are 10 floors! I shouldn’t have allocated only 3hrs for this museum, it could take up the whole day to go through it completely. Something not so good at the end. At 17:40, on the broadcast of closing time announcement, the white hair male staff saw me and used his finger pointing directly on me, and did a “get out” gesture, without saying a word. I thought it was really rude. Hope his act was not something discriminating.

The Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg is a fascinating dive into maritime history. Housed in a historic warehouse, it offers extensive exhibits on ships, navigation, and maritime art spanning centuries. The ship models and interactive displays are particularly impressive, appealing to both enthusiasts and casual visitors. While some sections can feel dense, the museum’s organization and rich storytelling make it an engaging experience for all ages.

BLOCKBRÄU is a massive beer hall located beneath the iconic clocktower on Hamburg's harborfront, offering traditional German beers brewed on-site. The brewery features classic fish plates and seafood alongside a variety of standard and seasonal beers, including Helles, Pilsner, wheat beer, winter beer, festbier for Oktoberfest, Hamburger Senate Buck, and porter. Visitors can enjoy views of the Elbe from the waterfront terrace while savoring their drinks.
Excellent beer pub right on the water overlooking the river, in a very good location. It’s pretty famous. It’s in the old block house. We were there at midday and got a light appetizer, beer and coffee. The prices were very reasonable for the area, and for being in the most touristy spot in Hamburg. We got an appetizer, fish bites, which were large and tasty with bread, pickles and salad, etc. A half liter of their good pale ale “Helles “ beer was only €6.50, and coffee was €4. Portions for the lunch entrees looked huge! Our server was really great, although very, very busy. Obviously the place was packed, and they were seating people at long tables with others, which was fine. There is a beautiful view of the river as the ferry go by. This is a very pleasant place, and a good spot for a snack and good draft beer. I imagine it’s very crowded in the evenings. It’s three levels. Outside there are many, many shops, and it’s a major stop for all of the different hop on hop off bus routes. You can also buy a boat tour for €30 each. English menu in the pictures, or you can scan the QR code on the front of the menu.

Beautiful ambiance, placed inside of St. Pauli Piers. There is a terrace on the roof where you can greet cruisers. We had potato/leek soup and porck knuckle, nice and tasty. Beer was super fresh and good. The waiters are very patient and welcoming. It was interesting to hava a sneak peek of food in kitchen :)

Beautiful location with a great view The location is simply stunning – right by the water, with a wonderful view of the harbor and the passing ships. Especially on a nice day, the view is a real highlight. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was freshly prepared, beautifully presented, and tasted excellent. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience – highly recommended! 😉👍
Oliver T — Google review
Stopped by Blockbräu for lunch after crossing under the Elbe. Sat at the biertische and ordered a schnitzel. It was crisp, golden and exactly what it should be. The Munich-style Weißbier was lovely, and service was on point despite the lunchtime rush. Big windows, open space, and a steady stream of seagulls circling the ferry terminals outside. A solid spot if you enjoy your beer with a view (and a hint of diesel in the breeze). Would 100% return. Possibly just for the schnitzel. Edit: I sat in the establishment, having a few beers, and eventually decided to also have the 700g Schweinshaxe, and it did not dissapoint. This is a meal for Kings and probably what I should have gone with in the first place. But I was just dying for a Schnitzel so I ordered that without looking at the menu. If I return here before I leave Hamburg I’m gonna try the Kalbsbratwurst at €20
Per S — Google review
Excellent food and beer. Service was fast and efficient. If you're on holiday I highly recommend coming for lunch. There is also a good view of the river and the returant is close to tourist attractions.
Mike D — Google review
Came here as part of a stag do and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more patient. Drinks came out fast, and the food was excellent — from the pretzel to the haxe, everything was soft, well seasoned, and delicious. The atmosphere was lively with plenty of groups celebrating, from bachelorettes to tourists, but everyone was well-behaved so it never spoiled the experience. A great spot for good food, drinks, and a fun time.
Oldrey L — Google review
Convenient brewery/restaurant by the harbor. Food was alright but not amazing. Got the fried fish and salmon. A bit overpriced, but it’s in a touristy area.
Madison W — Google review
This place is lively and busy at lunch time. It seems well known and visited by Germans who come to the harbour. Big groups and individuals turn up to this place where they are greeted with a smile and then take a seat of their choice. This brewery - restaurant is huge. They have seating on the ground floor, upstairs and on the terrace. The view from here is great. Tables and seats are comfortable and clean. Staff is friendly. They have menu card as well as the dish of the day. We realised only later about the day’s special. Nevertheless, our food was tasty and the portion was adequate. Beer was homemade and tasty. Toilets were clean. Staff was very attentive and fast. Food came fast too. I would recommend this place for those who want to eat traditional German food and drink traditional beer. And also for those who want to mingle with Germans and feel the atmosphere.

That was a great spontaneous experience that I got Friday night. Was lucky to get there with no reservation. Friendly staff at the bar and amazing view upstairs. Put the credit for future visit, cos you guys canceled the party I’ve expected while I was in Hamburg. See you later.

The location has amazing views from Hamburg, there is also a terrace bar on the upper floor to enjoy them. Regarding food, my expectations were too high I guess. The king Prawns were ok, we also order the truffle pasta which is far away from the quality that I was expecting for such a price and popular restaurant.
Triana S — Google review
A not so pleased experience. While the ambiance was pleasant (which I guess you only paid here for the magnificent view of Hamburg), the exorbitant prices didn't quite match the quality and portion of the food. The Burrata I had was so small for the price they asked. The bread and butter which they also charge you extra is also very few. The desert is the same. The steak (Entrecôte) was really delicious but for the price, really it is too much. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly slow, leaving us waiting for ages between courses.
Ariane J — Google review
Good place, the waiter was really kind. We were celebrating birthday so we were treated with respect. The fish option was really delicious. I don’t need to comment the view… it is fantastic.

Great views from the 23rd floor of the Dancing Tower. Meat-oriented menu, decent wine list. The wait for the food was too long though. We enjoyed the sides very much, and the meat (most of us took the Mastercut Ribeye) was good, though I found my rare-medium rare a bit too cooked.
Serene D — Google review
Amazing view, honestly the best place to go for a relaxing evening in Hamburg. The menu is quite pricey but the service, atmosphere and overall quality definitely make the cost worth it. Drinks were good and the complementary popcorn and peanuts delightful. 100% would go again!

Nick, our waiter was extremely courteous and patient with our orders and clicking our pictures. We got a seat by the window and it was the best view that I could have asked for. We were really satisfied with the service and the atmosphere. Will definitely be back again. The pictures don't do justice. They are way better in person. Chilehaus is a remarkable 1920s building in Hamburg, Germany, designed to resemble a ship and symbolize the city's economic revival after World War I. Commissioned by Henry B. Sloman, who made his fortune in Chile and wanted to give back to his hometown, the building houses restaurants, shops, and offices. It is an iconic example of Brick Expressionism architecture.
This UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its striking, ship-like shape, with sharp angles and intricate brickwork that showcases the Expressionist architectural style. The building’s facade is a masterpiece of brick design, and while it’s an office building with no interior access, you can spend about 15-30 minutes admiring its exterior. The surrounding area also features other interesting architecture to explore around on foot.

Architectural masterpiece. Dont miss in a Hamburg trip. “It is an exceptional example of the 1920s Brick Expressionism style of architecture. This large angular building is located on a site of approximately 6,000 m2 (1.5 acres), spanning the Fischertwiete Street in Hamburg. It was designed by the German architect Fritz Höger and finished in 1924. As part of Kontorhaus District, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.”

Wonderful place to take pictures and visit. The whole building looks so beautiful with the white windows. There are two buildings. The first one has the name " Chile Haus" on it. Really cool park with a majestic view of the harbour, and basketball court and just cool vibes right in the heart of st Pauli. Everything is cool there but some people who hand around the park might spoil your experience, or not. Anyway the vibe and atmosphere and the place itself deserve 5 ⭐, sadly some people hanging around the area drag it down

A lesser-known but really enjoyable spot in Hamburg. The harbor view is great - especially around sunset, it’s peaceful just to sit and take it all in. The design of the park is a bit unusual, with plastic palm trees and grass terraces that give it a fun, quirky vibe. It’s small, but full of character. If you’re around St. Pauli, definitely worth a quick stop. A nice little escape in the middle of the city.

Historical landmark
When visiting Hamburg, don't miss the Alter Elbtunnel, a historic tunnel that runs under the Elbe River. This early 20th-century marvel has been modernized and is now used for exhibitions. The tunnel connects St. Pauli-Landungsbrucken with Steinwerder peninsula in the port of Hamburg and is open to pedestrians, cyclists, and tourists free of charge.
This is a public, toll-free tunnel for pedestrians and bikes. One tube is currently undergoing maintenance, so be aware of traffic in both directions when you cross. The tunnel is manned, and if you don’t feel like taking the stairs down, there’s good elevators to take you down on both sides of the tunnel. Built in 1911 and still very much alive beneath the Elbe. The tiled tunnel feels more like a film set than public infrastructure, beautifully preserved and slightly eerie. Walk it, bike it, or just descend for the atmosphere. If you have time, continue to Steinwerder on the south side for a quiet panoramic view of the city.
Per S — Google review
A perfectly kept tunnel running under the Elbe river. A fun free experience. I recommend taking the stairs down and the lift up. The tiles are beautiful and adorned with various sea animals. The tunnel connects central Hamburg with the docks and shipyards on the south side of the river Elbe. It is used daily by commuters as a shortcut across the river. Be sure to stick to the pavements inside the tunnel as cyclists move quite quickly.
Petra P — Google review
The Old Elbe Tunnel in Hamburg is one of those attractions that truly surprises you — not least because it’s completely free, yet feels like stepping straight into a piece of living history. Opened in 1911, it’s a remarkable feat of engineering and architecture that still functions perfectly today. As you enter the building near Landungsbrücken, you’re immediately struck by its historic charm. The beautiful tiling, solid metal pillars, and the massive elevators — once used to carry horse-drawn carriages and vehicles — all stand as proud reminders of early 20th-century craftsmanship. You can either take one of these impressive elevators down or descend via the staircases, which adds to the experience as you move from daylight into the cool, slightly damp air beneath the river. Walking or cycling through the tunnel itself is fascinating. The long, arched passage, lined with white tiles and lit by old-fashioned lamps, stretches underneath the Elbe, giving you a sense of both nostalgia and wonder. Along the walls, you can spot small, decorative details depicting fish, crabs, and maritime motifs — all beautifully crafted and perfectly preserved. When you emerge on the other side, you’re rewarded with a stunning view back toward Hamburg’s skyline. From there, you can admire the harbor, the massive cranes, and the impressive silhouette of the Elbphilharmonie in the distance — a breathtaking contrast between Hamburg’s industrial past and modern elegance. The Old Elbe Tunnel is far more than a functional passageway; it’s a piece of living cultural heritage, a journey through time, and a reminder of what humans can achieve with vision and craftsmanship. The fact that it’s completely free only makes it more remarkable. A truly unique and memorable experience — an absolute must-see when visiting Hamburg.
Jan L — Google review

Ольга И — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place we used it twice and it’s so efficient and well looked after. Really historic too .. it’s even better that if you are on a cruise you can walk into the city via the tunnel. But you might want to check the opening hours as it closes for maintenance sometimes and weekends are shorter opening
Glyn ( — Google review
Incredible engineering and really well renovated. Totally free. No wait. Gorgeous inside. Easy 10-12 minute walk to other side. Make sure you use the large left for the bicycles and scooters but also check out the main hall via the stairs.

The Hamburg Dungeon offers a 90-minute interactive experience that delves into the chilling and haunting history of Hamburg. With live actors, special effects, and immersive storytelling, visitors are taken on a theatrical journey through the city's darker past. From plague-ridden streets to infamous pirates, the attraction brings history to life in a thrilling and unforgettable way. Located in the heart of the city, it provides an entertaining yet educational look at Hamburg's historical menaces and legends.
This attraction exceeded my expectations. It was fun-scary. Nicely decorated, with different attractions inside which do not repeat and a very good play of the actors. They interact with the audience as well, so it is nice too. Please note that it is in German, so you will need to know the language to understand the historical events they tell you. Was a cool way to learn more about the city. Also there were some unexpected attractions (do not read if concerned about spoilers) like water slide, free fall and different rooms where actors interact with you. Buy tickets in advance as an advice.
Darya N — Google review
Not Recommended Unless Your German Is Really Strong! The Hamburg Dungeon offers a theatrical and immersive dive into the city’s darker history. The set design and actors are impressive, and the whole show lasts about one hour, which feels just right. However, there are a few things to be aware of: 👥 The staff at the entrance weren’t very friendly, which was a disappointing start. 💸 The ticket price felt a bit too high for what you get. 🎁 You can visit for free on your birthday, but only if you book your ticket online in advance — don’t forget that! 📸 There’s a souvenir photo option: €2 for a basic download via QR code, and €7 for extra photos with fun effects. ⚠️ Important: All performances are in German, and the actors speak very fast. If you’re not fluent, you’ll miss most of the jokes and context — so I wouldn’t really recommend it for non-German speakers. Overall, it’s a cool one-time visit if your German is solid and you know what to expect — but not something I’d do again.

Such a disappointment. We pre-booked in advance and specifically asked for a bed by the pool. The weather was set to be 37° so we decided to spend the day there. We noted the minimum spend of €150 for a sunbed. We paid €20 for an Uber to drop us at the location which was difficult to find. 13 floors up in a run down car park where the only lift we could find on entering the car park, wasn't working. After climbing 13 sets of stairs in the heat we were met by a chirpy member of staff who welcomed us. We were told to sit where we liked (there were only 4 other people at the venue) so I asked where the pool was. I was informed that there was no pool, they hadn't updated their website yet but it was removed a couple of years ago and in any case 'it was a fake pool anyway' - I was furious. We were only in Hamburg for 2 days and we'd planned to spend the day here. We had absolutely nowhere else to go. It was incredibly hot and we just wanted somewhere to cook down. Talk about false advertising! Don't rely on anything you read. Looking for a pool? Try Beach Hamburg. Unfortunately after wasting our morning getting to this place, Beach Hamburg was fully booked (another wasted Uber)

Nice place but just terrible to find. Google maps send us to the parking lot and we found no signs there pointing to the correct direction… The day that I went to a birthday party there were only us at the club (around 10 people) and there was no music because they were repairing something. We asked if we could play something in a music box and they let us.

Puzzle Bar, located in Hamburg's Hafencity, is a sophisticated rooftop venue that has earned a top spot in the national rankings. With a stylish indoor space and an outdoor terrace on the 15th floor, it offers stunning views of the city. This establishment is associated with renowned chef Kevin Fehling, known for his three-star restaurant The Table.
The drinks were different, making you wonder how someone could develop something so creative. The location was the only issue, but the bar was unique, with a great view of the water. The drinks were excellent. The bartender explained everything when he delivered the drinks, so that was also something I found great. We had a great time being here. The ambiance of the setup of the bar was just 10/10. You have to try the Slange Dansk and the Yuzu Pornstar.

The cocktails are average, considering the price i had far better whiskey sour (this is a drink that I calibrate my expectations in a bar when I visit for the first time). The whiskey sour was average. The service on the other hand was great. I have been there multiple times and I was always satisfied with them friendly staffs.

A hidden gem of Hamburg, great atmosphere and amazing cocktails. Each cocktail is explained at the table, the classics were really good and menu was full of creative options. Unfortunately it was a rainy day (no so surprising for Hamburg), so we couldn’t enjoy the view, so definitely will go there again for the view and the cocktails.

Wow, we found this accidentally when we searched for rooftop bars. Gorgeous place. Very intimate setting. Incredible view of the entire city and the harbor. And I had my first real old-fashioned since coming to Hamburg. We didn’t eat any food they except a small bowl of chips so I can’t rate the food.
Kitty B — Google review
Don’t treat your customers like freeloading children. We arrived and were shown to an indoor table. The staff then told us in order for everyone to be allowed to stay, we’d all have to order something immediately. One of our friends who didn’t want to drink straight away ended up being forced to order some still water, which ended up being 750ml and €7.50 which felt very sneaky. The rest of us started with some soft drinks. We asked about a table that become available outside, but were told that it was already claimed by another party… fair enough. However, the waiter came back over and said in order to sit outside, we’d “have to order more than just the cheapest soft drinks” on the menu. This was incredibly disrespectful and condescending. The waiter was implying that we were trying to “game” the system and buy as little as possible. We had actually planned to spend some time and order more drinks, but after that beautiful show of entitlement from the waiter, we decided we no longer wanted to stay. Service was slow. Don’t know what they were doing half the time. It took ages to have our order taken, drinks delivered and bill paid. Nice view, pretentious place with slow and condescending staff.
Ben M — Google review
Maybe our expectations were too high from reading the many good reviews, but this bar is far from competing with the best in Hamburg. We tried eight different cocktails and weren’t very excited about any of them - and we like to try cocktails. Even the whisky sour was very average. You need to ring a door bell at the ground floor of the building and then wait for a staff member to pick you up. When we visited it took more than five minutes, and that’s a long wait with Hamburg winter weather (rain and wind). The bar has no food except for a pulled pork sandwich. The liquor selection in the bar is very limited, so if you would like a different type gin, let’s say a craft gin, you’re out of luck unless you consider Monkey47 a craft gin. The whisky selection is poor. You can find way better bar options even on a walking distance from Puzzle Bar. The many glorious reviews left us puzzled.
Bull D — Google review
The drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. The service was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the view and the atmosphere in the bar a lot. We are looking forwards to returning and trying out more cocktails on their menu.

The Grand Elysee Hamburg, a renowned 5-star hotel, unveiled its latest addition in 2020 - the Top Seven rooftop bar. This elegant terrace offers comfortable lounge furniture and stylish bar stools where guests can savor creative signature cocktails, refreshing drinks, and delicious tapas while taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of Hamburg's skyline.
Amazing and very polite service. The bar is quite cozy and feels private. The view is not the focus of the place, and they don't serve food. We were given some snacks along the bottle of wine we ordered and when it got colder in the evening, we also got blankets to keep us warm. It was a great time being at Top Seven.

Very very bad service, the place supposedly closes at 1 am but one waiter said he “ will call security” in 5 minutes with no prior warning just out of no where, also we asked for tequila shots and magically the 13 euros per shot was chosen for us without telling us, i don’t recommend it at all. Unprofessional ( our bill was close to 400 Euros for 8 people, only drinks..)

The staff was so rude, they said they close in 5 minutes which we totally understood and showed acceptance to that then immediately they said they will call security if we dont apply although other customers were still there. This is very disrespectful and unprofessional.

The Hamburg Townhall, also known as the Hamburg Rathaus, is a magnificent neo-Renaissance building that serves as the seat of the city's government. Constructed in 1866, it features opulent state rooms and a vaulted hallway. Visitors can take guided tours to admire its beautiful decor and paintings. The building is adorned with 16 sandstone pillars and over 60 portraits of significant figures in Hamburg's history.
I had a great time visiting Hamburg Townhall, even though I didn’t go inside. The building itself is stunning, with its grand architecture and intricate details making it one of the most impressive landmarks in the city. Just standing outside and admiring the facade was an experience in itself. The surrounding area is lively and offers plenty to explore. I walked around, took some photos, and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. The sunny weather made it even better, and I grabbed a coffee while sitting nearby, just taking in the view. Even without an interior tour, the visit was well worth it. If you’re in Hamburg, this is definitely a place to stop by, whether to admire the architecture, take pictures, or just enjoy the surroundings.

The former Hamburg city hall was destroyed by fire in 1842 and was rebuilt more than 40 years later at its current location. The current new city hall was completed in 1897. The city hall is very beautiful. Guided tours of the city hall are well worth taking, as you can enter areas not open to the general public and hear many interesting stories. Currently, Hamburg's mayor's office, as well as the meeting rooms of the parliament and senate, are located in the city hall. In one of the city hall's rooms, there is a large painting depicting the scene when the Speaker led a group of councillors into the new city hall after its completion. At that time, everyone wore neat formal attire. According to the tour guide, that formal attire was handed down through generations, was very heavy and difficult to clean, and is no longer in use. The most beautiful room in the city hall is where the mayor meets with the administrative departments. In front of the doors of the room are two statues of goddesses representing justice and mercy respectively. On the door frame was written in German: GOTT MIT UNS., which means God is with us. Some abbreviations SPQH were seen outside the room. The tour guide explained that this was a reference to the Roman abbreviation SPQR. In Roman times, SPQR represented the Roman Senate and People. We think SPQH probably stands for Senate and People of Hamburg.

Absolutely do the guided tour. Frau Sabine Bendig led our group in English and it was amazing. Each room is so beautiful and meaningful right from the wallpapers to the busts and paintings. It's classy and rich without being gaudy.

Beautiful parliament building in the heart of city. Be sure to walk through the side, there is a beach fountain in a courtyard. The construction is incredible and the detail statues and adornments are incredible. You can enter the budding behind the fountain and enjoy the restraint located beneath the building.

A timeless masterpiece Rathaus Hamburg stands like a grand storyteller in the heart of the city — every arch, statue, and corridor whispers history. The exterior took my breath away with its intricate details, and the interior felt serene and majestic, like stepping into another era.
Christina A — Google review
The Hamburg Rathaus is one of the most impressive buildings I’ve seen. Its exterior is breathtaking, full of detailed decorations and bronze statues that reflect the city’s rich history. The facade is lined with figures of emperors, kings, and traditional professions like blacksmiths, tailors, and gardeners, which beautifully connect the city’s governance with everyday life. The tall towers and elegant stonework create a sense of grandeur. It’s a perfect spot for photos, especially when the sunlight highlights the carvings and sculptures. Simply standing in front of it gives you a true feeling of Hamburg’s history and pride
ASSIM H — Google review
I visited the Hamburg Rathaus in 2023 and it is one of the most impressive places in the city if you are into architecture. The building is truly imposing, with a massive façade and fine details that make it stand out even more, catching your eye as soon as you arrive. The central tower is very tall and can be seen from many points in the city center. Right outside the Rathaus on the Rathausmarkt there is a bronze scale model of Hamburg — a great little landmark to check out.

St. Pauli Piers, also known as St. Pauli Landungsbrucken, is a historic and bustling landmark situated along the Elbe River in Hamburg, Germany. It serves as a significant transportation hub and entry point to the city, offering panoramic views of Hamburg's harbor, vibrant maritime activities, and picturesque waterfront promenades. Visitors can partake in boat tours, savor waterfront dining experiences, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere of this renowned location.
This lively waterfront area is perfect for a scenic walk, with its mix of historic piers and modern ferries. The views of the Elbe River, bustling port activity, and the iconic sight of ships passing under the bridges are worth the visit. Entry is free to the pier itself, and you could spend 1-2 hours wandering along the waterfront, stopping at the variety of cafes or hopping on a ferry for a harbour tour. Be sure to check the ferry times and landing bridges as each ferry offers different routes.

Boat Tours can be very expensive. The Ferry Lines are scenic enough to tour the Elbe, the ride is covered by the local transport ticket also by the Deutschland Ticket. Sit on the top deck when weather is nice and enjoy the views especially Elbstrand riding Line 62 which departs every 30 minutes.

Your general public transport ticket will also work for most regular boat rides. Try the open air upper deck for sunny days and if it's raining covered and the enclosed lower deck is best.

The view is amazing and very beautiful. The cool breeze from the waters and the sounds of ships and boats makes it a really nice and lively harbor place to have a stroll around, especially when you have extra time during your stay here. There were a lot of stands, games, and attractions for tourists, so you’ll never get bored. And a lot of boat tour companies offering boat rides. If possible, I would recommend buying a boat tour ticket, you get to see a different perspective of not just the harbor, but also of Hamburg as a city itself.

Hard Rock Cafe Hamburg is a rock 'n' roll-themed restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere, serving classic American dishes and burgers. Located on the banks of the Elbe River, it boasts an impressive collection of music memorabilia. The restaurant offers a large rooftop terrace with stunning views of the river and the city's landmarks. It's popular among both tourists and locals, offering an extensive cocktail selection and a great place to enjoy good food, music, and people-watching.
The location near the river is a great place to stop and get a drink after enjoying the views of the tour boats... We went back another day too because we enjoyed the atmosphere and looking at the memorabilia from musicians. They make great expresso martinis and sangras. You can take home a souvenir glass too. A shop is attached for other souvenirs. We didn't eat here but the food smells good.

It was a rainy day. The kind that makes a beer feel like a solution. The place was packed. Tourists, locals, noise. The usual suspects. I didn’t have a reservation, just mild optimism and damp sleeves. They found me a seat at the bar anyway. Ordered a Warsteiner. Cold, golden, reliable. Like a German engineer’s handshake. Then hunger crept in, subtle but persuasive. I ordered chicken tenders. They arrived hot enough to sear doubt from your mind. Crispy, juicy, and paired with fries that didn’t ask for permission, just space on the plate. Two sauces came with them. One mysterious and red. The other beige with attitude. Both did their job without needing praise. Alex, the bartender, was managing chaos with the calm of a man who’s seen worse. Probably brunch shift on a Sunday. All in all, a satisfying detour from the weather, the crowd, and existential dread.

We sat down here for a bite to eat around 9pm on a Saturday evening. Although it was crowded, there were plenty of empty tables. As you might expect, the menu consists of American classics. We opted for chicken sliders, French fries, and onion rings as appetizers. Frankly, the service was quite slow; it took half an hour for the food to arrive. Fortunately, everything tasted great and was served piping hot. The waiters were attentive and friendly. It's a pleasant place to grab a drink or a bite to eat. The prices are a bit above average but the portions are huge! Its location on the waterfront and the view make it a lovely spot.

Same menu as most other HR cafes, but that's OK with us as we like most things on it. Photos are of a potato tots starter salmon noodles and a New York burger. All were very good and reasonably priced. 5*

Went to many Hard Rock Cafes in Asia and in the US and this was the most disappointing one from all of them. The service is not up to company standards incl. greeting, the food prices and menu are almost the same, but the flavours, presentation, temperature and quality of the dish are very disappointing. You have to ask for everything extra even sauces, incl. the free soft drink refill system isn't promoted at all, which means unless you are familiar with the system, you would pay per drink. Unfortunately, would not go a second time or wouldn't even recommend to a friend.

Plus, it’s right by the harbor, so you can enjoy a sea view from some of the tables — which makes it even better!

My husband and I went for dinner to celebrate our first anniversary. We thought it must be worth spending this kind of money. Everything starting great even though prices are quite high. Dinner was ok however service could be better for the amount you are paying. Once our main course was served our waitress completely disappeared and we had to get up to serve our self’s wine as we wanted wine with our main course and not later. When we finished dinner we asked for the desserts and this is when for our surprise the answer was the kitchen is closed… really? You are paying over 100€ per person for a dinner and you just get the answer that the kitchen is closed and you can’t have dessert? This is really not professional. Leaving your customers half way done with dinner. :( If you don’t want to be disappointed with the service then don’t go to this restaurant. Sorry.. I can’t recommend.

Well, first the good news: The steaks tasted really good and were cooked to perfection. Staff was also friendly and knowledgeable about wine, but they were also too few and so they were overstretched. It took a very long time for us to get our first drinks, and they messed up our steak order. They took them back without arguing, but as we worked our way through the ones we got back, we had a strong suspicion that they were not the bone-in rib-eyes we had ordered (and eventually paid for). They didn’t have a fat eye, and the bone looked like a – 10€ cheaper – New York cut (see photo). They tasted great, though. In fact, it was the best steak I have had in a very long time – the perfect level of dry-aged nuttyness and cooked to perfection, so we didn’t have the energy to complain further. But we probably won’t be coming back.

The Hamburger Kunsthalle is a major art museum located in three buildings, showcasing a diverse collection of artworks ranging from medieval altarpieces to contemporary photography. The museum is part of the 8th Triennial in Hamburg, along with several other prominent venues. The grand facade of the Hamburger Kunsthalle greets visitors as they leave Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, leading them into an old building housing remarkable works of art spanning five centuries.
An outstanding collection of fine art. The Impressionist collection is particularly spectacular. There is currently an exhibition of surrealism. Paintings by Dali, Magnet, Ernst, Miro, Klee. Audio guide in English in a very cut-down version: a few paintings from the general collection, 30% of the Impressionism exhibition. There is no audio guide in English at all for the Surrealism exhibition.

€16 at the door and you’re in for a ride through centuries of art. The place jumps from old masters to Romantic drama, realism, impressionism, and straight into the modern era. When I was there, the Galerie der Gegenwart was housing the Anders Zorn exhibition. That felt like a bonus on top of the already stacked collection.

The Kunsthalle Hamburg is an absolute gem for art lovers! I visited for the Surrealism exhibition, and it was outstanding — brilliantly curated with a mix of iconic and unexpected works, presented in a way that’s both thought-provoking and accessible. The interpretation was clear without being overwhelming, and the layout encouraged you to linger and make your own discoveries. The main galleries are equally impressive, offering a journey through centuries of art — from stunning Old Masters to bold contemporary pieces. The spaces are light, airy, and beautifully designed, making the experience feel calm and immersive. One of the highlights for me was how well the different wings connect; you can explore at your own pace without feeling lost or rushed. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic, which made the visit even more enjoyable. If you’re in Hamburg, this is an unmissable destination — whether you’re an art history enthusiast or just curious to see something inspiring, the Kunsthalle delivers on every level. I left feeling enriched, inspired, and already planning my next visit.

A great museum with excellent special exhibitions, including the current surrealism exhibition demonstrating affinities between surrealist and German Romantic piets and painters. This show draws on the museum's strength in German painting, so expect to see many great works by Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge alongside those of Max Ernst, de Chirico and others.

Absolutely a wonderful Museum of Art, painting and sculpture like no other in Germany, you must visit this Museum of you love Art History! I was here for the first time attending an exhibition in October: "Rendezvous of Dreams", this was the title of the brilliant exhibition. A retrospective of the Surrealism painters and German Romantic Art artists. Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, Max Lieberman, Meret Oppenheim, Andre Masson, Philipp Otto Runge, Caspar David Friedrich and more artists were sharing the space and were perfectly exhibited! Very good ambient and different ways to interact and learn with this exhibition! Historical videos, films, photos, even an open area where you could paint your own artworks! Hope the management of this cultural institution continues organising events like this one! This was a rebirth into the appreciation of painting and sculpture techniques of the Surrealism and German romanticism movements of art! Two of the most important periods for the history of art! Located in Hamburg, coast by east offers an elegant and diverse culinary experience with a stunning city view. The upscale spot provides a bright and stylish ambiance for enjoying sushi and various Asian delicacies, including Japanese specialties, vegetarian dishes, grilled options, and fresh seafood. Whether indulging in a light low-carb meal or savoring delicious sushi with a sweet ending, guests can relish their dining experience while overlooking the Elbe River and Grasbrookhafen from the terrace.
Absolutely amazing food with a fantastic selection, top-notch service, and a beautiful ambiance. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the location couldn’t be better. This place is a must-visit for sushi lovers and fans of Asian fusion cuisine. I highly recommend it and will definitely return every time I’m in Hamburg. A solid 10 out of 10!

If you’re searching for a dining experience that feels like a breath of sea air mixed with urban sophistication — look no further than Coast by East. This isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a sensory journey along the coastline, reimagined with modern flair and soulful precision. From the moment you walk in, you’re enveloped in effortless elegance: soft linen drapes, sun-bleached woods, ocean-toned ceramics, and the gentle hum of chilled cocktails being crafted at the bar. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the city skyline like a living painting — perfect for sunset drinks or romantic evening meals. The vibe? Calm luxury. Effortless cool. Like a seaside villa designed by a Scandinavian minimalist who fell in love with Japanese restraint. But let’s talk about the food — because Coast by East doesn’t just serve dinner… it serves memories. The seafood here is nothing short of extraordinary. Their crispy-skinned seabass was cooked to perfection — golden, flaky, resting on a bed of saffron-infused fennel and citrus beurre blanc that sang with brightness. The grilled octopus, tender as silk and charred just enough, came with smoked paprika purée and pickled shallots that danced on the palate. Even their simple oyster platter — served with mignonette and finger lime — felt like tasting the North Sea itself. And then there’s the sushi. Yes — sushi. At a coastal-inspired spot, you’d expect it, but not this good. Their tuna tartare with yuzu kosho and avocado cream was pure poetry. The uni (sea urchin) nigiri? Silky, briny, sweet — the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-chew and whisper “wow.” They even have a seasonal sashimi board that changes daily, showcasing fish so fresh it looks like it just swam off the boat. The cocktails? Artisanal masterpieces. Service is impeccable without being stiff. Staff move with quiet grace, anticipate needs before they arise, and clearly adore what they do. Our server spent time explaining each dish’s inspiration — not because we asked, but because they wanted us to feel the story behind every bite. Coast by East isn’t trying to be the biggest, loudest, or trendiest place in town. It’s simply the best version of itself — refined, authentic, and deeply satisfying. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, treating yourself after a long week, or just craving food that makes your soul sigh — this is where you belong. I’ve already booked my next table. Five stars? I’d give it infinity. 🌊🐟🍋

I don't understand the negative ratings this restaurant is receiving. Everything was perfect -- food, service, location. Would definitely want to come back here.

We love the coast restaurant, great food, great atmosphere, but over the years the price/benefit ratio is constantly going down. Smaller portions (just an example the Creme brulee is probably half the size it used to be). getting to the 'not worth it anymore' point, which is sad but spending 150 Eu on two starters, one sushi plate and two drinks? Sadly only only 3 stars because of the prices

We have been living in Hamburg for long time, and this place has been our list to visit. And we finally visited Coast by East Hamburg for a special occasion. The high ceiling, green ambience, great view through glass walls, etc. made the good initial impression. Waiter was helpful and patient. And the food tasted good. Not the best sushi/roll that I ever tasted, but beautiful presentation, good taste, and good portion were worth the money.

Nestled just a stone's throw from the iconic St. Michael's Church, Krameramtsstuben is a charming enclave that transports you back in time. This collection of half-timbered houses, dating back to the early 17th century, was originally built to accommodate widows of local grocers and stands as one of Europe's oldest assemblies of townhouses. As you stroll through this historic lane, you'll discover rustic architecture amidst modern surroundings—a delightful contrast that adds to its allure.
The service and the environment were so welcoming when we arrived. The spot was a bit hidden in an alleyway but not too hard to find. They offered English menu to non-German speaker. We ordered 2 soups and 2 mains for the table. Aalsuppe (Eel soup) - The eel is boneless and incredibly tender. The soup is simmered with a variety of vegetables, giving it a naturally sweet flavour. Krabbensuppe (Crab soup) - The crab soup is creamy and bursting with rich crab flavor. The small prawns in the soup and the dollop of cream on top add an extra layer of taste and texture Schnitzel - The food portion is generous and freshly fried. It’s served with crispy potato slice and cucumber slices, which add a refreshing contrast to the fried dish Pasta with Lobster Sauce - The pasta is also in a decent size, with a rich and creamy lobster sauce. The grilled boneless fish is tender, well-seasoned, and pairs perfectly with the pasta. Funny story: We were actually in a rush to catch a coach, but the restaurant was simply too good to skip. We have no regrets about cutting it close and nearly missing our coach. The waiter was also very understanding of our situation and did his best to accommodate us😊

Charming little restaurant in a side street near St. Michael’s Church. The seafood soup was really tasty, and the place has a nice historic vibe. However, the staff were surprisingly unfriendly – they even tried to talk us out of staying and trying their famous soup. Another downside was that some of the dishes had chips on them, which isn’t great from a hygiene perspective. A strange experience in an otherwise promising place.

A bit on the expensive side considering what you’re getting but I guess you pay for the history and the place. Very cute little restaurant with a lot of history apparently. We came two people and were seated very closely next to another couple, in general I think that you’re seated quite snuggly with other patrons which is not always that nice. We were served a small appetizer which consisted of four pieces of thinly sliced, very dry bread with a bit of creme fraiche or quark or something like that. Very weird honestly. Germany is know for their bakeries, but this was very sloppy. As a shared starter we tried their labskovs. It’s basically like German tartar. I really found it quite repulsive in flavor, but my partner who is German liked it. I really didn’t like it, but I am happy that I tried it. For main course I had a steak with a baked potato and some greens. My partner had rinderroulade and sauce. My steak was nicely cooked, and so was the other stuff on my plate. Besides that I think it was just quite average. Nothing too overwhelming and special. I do think however, that my girlfriend’s rinderoulade was super nice. Very flavorful sauce, nice tender beef and her potatoes were good too. Only for that reason I give it 4, otherwise it would’ve been an easy 3 stars for me. I think there are much better places to go for this pricepoint in Hamburg.

The interior is beautifully designed with charming furniture that really adds to the warm and inviting ambiance. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very helpful throughout our visit. While there weren’t many options for starters or appetizers, the main courses more than made up for it — both the steak and fish dishes were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine local dining experience in Hamburg

We wanted an authentic German restaurant experience. This is the place! Tucked away on a side alley this is authentic German food. We were helped by our server - she guided us to what we wanted. Super friendly and just the right amount of service. A bit pricey but worth it. We dined outside but you have to take a look inside- gorgeous!

Labskaus appetizer version and Pannfisch was good enough to split with 2 people. I was prepared to be disappointed but I was actually delighted by the food quality. The mustard sauce was not too strong not too weak. The potatos bacon bits and chives side which came with the Panfish was in particular delicious and a highlight.

Walking into Krameramtsstuben is like stepping into a little German village from centuries ago, right in the middle of Hamburg. It is a charming and cosy environment with half-timbered houses and narrow lanes. There are a few stores and a restaurant. Refarding the restaurant, the staff were fantastic — friendly and genuinely welcoming. We went for the Grand Schnitzel and it was perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. The beer selection is also spot-on and matches the menu. If you want great German food, this is the spot!

It was a bit crowded when we attended this bar, but that was expected when you have such a lovely view of the city and the water. The music was great, and I loved the nice upscale feeling. Everyone dressing classy was definitely a plus. It was definitely a great experience, and the bar staff always walked around with a professional attitude. The drinks were delicious.

The view- amazing! It makes sense to visig here if you are in Hamburg. Just try to reserve in advance! I went there with a friend, and got to witness a beautiful sunset over the city and the docks. The cocktails are absolutely delightful, I just wish they also had some finger snacks to order. We ordered two drinks each and sat there for almost 3 hours. Dancing chili is a trendsetter here but I honestly loved the Mai Tai wayyy more. The gin basil smash was brilliantly fresh too.

View was very nice, they had a great gin selection and mix the drinks great. But service was very sub par. You have to wait to be seated, but no one takes you’re order. Weitor does not give you any info on ordering, when trying to get an order from the bar it takes 10 to get attention and 25 minutes to get the drinks. One guy paid and left. This wax museum was a surprise in the centre of the St Pauli strip. For €6.50 there was a lot more figures than I expected to see, and the fact that they include an English or German audiotape alongside it was a big plus. My only issue is that I'm not big on history so I was hoping for less historical figures, and more movie/music stars. However, it was a nice way to spend an hour so I would consider it a nice experience either way!

The museum showcases German, European, and Asian applied art including Japanese pottery, Bauhaus furniture, northern German china, furniture, silver, East Asian art, works by Oskar Kokoschka and more.
⭐️Eclectic and inspiring. Love the hands-on experiences with water calligraphy and painting scrolls on the 2nd floor (that is the 3rd floor in the US sense). Other recommendations from me include: ⭐️Hitting the piano keys mounted in transparent boxes on the wall of the music room. The mechanics are fascinating! ⭐️Tumble in the kid’s room in the basement even if you are 55 yo! ⭐️Check out the open studio right behind the ticket counter. Read, lounge, create. Tools waiting for you right there. ⭐️Access: Right across the street from the south side of the central station. The entrance of the museum also faces a huge bus station with many lines. ⭐️Luggage: Coin-operated lockers of various sizes. Your carry-on suitcases can fit in the bigger boxes. Not sure about huge suitcases. Lockers take both 1 and 2 euro coins. You get the coins back as you put the key back in. ⭐️This is a museum I look forward to revisiting whenever I’m in town. Every pore of it drips creativity.

I feel of two minds about this museum. On the one hand, some of the exhibits were fantastic, like Hello Image, Tin, and Arab Graphic Design. On the other hand, the standard exhibits feel very dated by comparison. The glitter exhibit in particular felt very forced and nonsensical. It's very loosely connected, and the works that were there didn't feel very inspiring. A timeline of the use of glitter in popular culture doesn't really work. I was also disappointed by the musical instruments exhibit, which was focused almost entirely on pianos. I feel there're so many unique, beautiful instruments out there, I would love to have seen more saxophone production or something. I would still come visit, it's a very good museum. The Der Spiegel room is like something out of a dream, and it's worth visiting for that alone.

The space is superbly organised. A very rich selection of themes and collections. Contemporary art is neighbouring with a collection of exhibits from Egypt and ancient Greece. Each exhibit has a bilingual description. Atmospheric cafe. Any visitor will find something of interest. A chic museum shop with a huge selection of books.

The museum is a real gem for lovers of architecture and the history of industrial design. The transition from the 19th century to the 20th and a complete change in the way of living and the materials used for furniture. How much did new materials affect everyday life, habits and the very organization of living space. A rich collection of objects from Japan that influenced art in Europe at the end of the 19th century. Also, a beautiful cafe with a view of the inner courtyard. The museum shop offers a huge collection of books related to interior design, architecture and furniture. Wonderful experience.
Sanja T — Google review
The museum is much bigger than it looks from the outside. It houses an eclectic collection of art from different areas and regions. I really enjoyed some sections whereas others were not so much my cup of tea. Overall I found it very enjoyable and would go again if I wanted to refresh my memory. There was no wait when I entered and I got lucky that a revamped section of the museum was opened with pomp and fanfare when I visited.

it was a rainy day in Hamburg. We went to this museum and how fun is it they had a glitter exhibit in a museum of something. I never expect to see They also had many other art deco exhibit and many other important exhibit. It’s a nice way to spend a couple hours and if you have children, they had a workshop that you could make things out of glitter they also have a nice café, so fun.

I enjoyed it, plenty of descriptions in English, and some lovely ancient artefacts. Especially good on the early twentieth century, art noveau, etc. Not sure about the (temporary) glitter exhibition. People like and liked to wear glittery things...and...so what. Good cafe, usual German museum thing where you're not sure if your expected to go through a closed door or not (no sign!). But overall great museum. Here's some of my favourites, from the first ever (?) fitted kitchen, by Margarete Schutte-Lihotzky, to a 6000 year old figure, and some lovely pottery.

Nice smaller museum with a café inside. There are 5-6 steps at the entrance but the exposition itself is on one floor with wide enough spaces for a wheelchair. I rather like that the exposition is structured by aspect rather than chronologically, it gives a better insight into what life around the Speicherstadt was actually like. There are some pieces that are interactive. I particularly enjoyed how i found the answer on how probing of cargoes was done in the past by actually trying it out myself. The café has a good selection of teas, some softdrinks and a tasty cake.

C N — Google review
Beatles-Platz is a unique and vibrant public square located in Hamburg’s bustling St. Pauli district, right at the crossroads of the famous Reeperbahn and Große Freiheit streets. Opened in September 2008, this plaza commemorates the crucial and formative years The Beatles spent in Hamburg during the early 1960s before their global breakthrough. It celebrates Hamburg’s profound influence on the band’s early growth and serves as a popular pilgrimage site for Beatles fans from around the world. Design and Symbolism The circular plaza spans 29 meters (about 95 feet) in diameter and is paved with black granite to resemble a giant vinyl record, symbolizing The Beatles’ musical legacy. Around its perimeter stand five life-sized stainless steel silhouettes representing the band members as they appeared during their Hamburg era: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, and a hybrid silhouette combining the two drummers Pete Best and Ringo Starr. The statues, created by architects Dohse & Stich, capture the youthful essence and dynamic presence of the band during their early days playing long sets in Hamburg’s clubs. Embedded in the plaza’s pavement are the titles of about 70 Beatles songs, connecting visitors even more deeply with their iconic music. At night, special lighting at the edges of the plaza simulates a rotating record, enhancing the immersive and celebratory atmosphere of the site. Historical Context Throughout the early 1960s, before The Beatles became international superstars, Hamburg was where they honed their craft, performing marathon sessions in small clubs like the Indra, Kaiserkeller, and Star-Club. Despite harsh living conditions—cramped storerooms and long playing hours—the experience helped shape their musicianship and stage presence. John Lennon famously remarked, “I might have been born in Liverpool, but I grew up in Hamburg,” highlighting the city’s formative role in their rise. The Beatles’ time in Hamburg was also marked by their encounter with photographer Astrid Kirchherr, who influenced their distinctive “mop-top” haircuts and iconic style. Hamburg’s red-light district was both a challenging and inspiring environment that propelled the band’s transformation from struggling young musicians to the pioneers of the British Invasion. Visitor Experience Beatles-Platz is not just a static monument but a lively meeting point that invites interaction. Visitors often pose within the band-member silhouettes, imagining themselves part of the legendary group. The plaza’s design encourages fans to immerse themselves in the legacy of The Beatles, making it a popular photo spot. The square’s location in the heart of the nightlife district means visitors can easily continue exploring nearby venues, clubs, and museums celebrating the band’s Hamburg story. Guided Beatles-themed walking tours commonly start or end here, providing detailed histories and anecdotes about the band’s time in the city. The collaborative funding and support from the City of Hamburg and public donations highlight the city’s pride in its musical heritage. Accessibility and Surroundings Situated in the vibrant St. Pauli area, Beatles-Platz is easily reachable by public transport with nearby stops such as the U3 St. Pauli station or the S-Bahn trains at Reeperbahn. Visitors can combine their visit with exploring the famous Reeperbahn nightlife, the Beatles Museum nearby, or cultural institutions in the Hamburg harbor area.

The Kaffeemuseum Burg is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts, offering a deep dive into the history of coffee and an extensive exploration of various coffee varieties. The museum, run by the Burg family for almost a century in Hamburg, provides valuable insights into Germany's favorite beverage. Situated in the Speicherstadt, where coffee has been stored and processed since 1896, the museum offers guided tours that cover everything from cultivation to trade and processing of coffee beans.
Among the many nice roasteries/ cafes in Hafen City this is one of my favorites. Its design and atmosphere is very interesting specifically for the tourists. Coffee is good. Staff are great. Also the little gift shop is quite offering. Not all cakes are very good (some really are, but still seem to be - maybe - baked by an industrial bakery).

If you are looking for an authentic place to enjoy tasty coffee this is the place to go. They are also giving coffee tasting workshops. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Also a great shop to buy beans, large variety of coffee for coffee lovers.
Kursad T — Google review
This review is only about the guided tour: We had booked a 50min guided tour of the cellar/basement. The ticket clearly said tour of the cellar and gave timings of 50min. The guide arrived 5min late which is ok. The guide was very friendly and told great stories about coffee roasting and history — we appreciated his passion and knowledge. But he spent 60min giving us a lecture of two machines in the upper cafe. Finally we were taken to basement/museum. But there he just collected us in a circle and again gave lecture of 20min. We could not stay more because we had to catch our train. They should be better organized. The people from the coffee tasting (2h experience) were patched together with those who just wanted the guided tour of basement. Huge waste of money. I would advise people to just book self tour of museum with audio app so you can view the entire basement. Much cheaper.

Review: “A Sip of Perfection—A Hidden Sanctuary for True Coffee Lovers” There are places you stumble upon by accident, but your soul instantly recognizes them as a kind of destiny. That’s how I found Kaffeemagie, a small café tucked away on a quiet street in Hamburg, far from tourist crowds, where coffee isn’t just a beverage—it’s ritual, it’s craft, it’s pure alchemy. The wooden door creaked as I opened it, as if whispering stories of decades past. Inside, the air was rich with the scent of freshly ground beans, of artisanal roasts, of promises waiting to be fulfilled. No loud music, just the comforting hum of the grinder, the hiss of the espresso machine, and the gentle murmur of patrons speaking in reverent tones—like a library, but for the senses. I was greeted by a barista who doesn’t just make coffee—he lives it. I asked for a recommendation, and with a knowing smile, he offered a V60 brew of a Panama Geisha that had just arrived. “We only serve this to people who’ll understand it,” he said. I felt like I had been handed a secret password to a world few get to enter. The brewing process was a quiet performance. Floral aroma, citrusy brightness, and a texture so silky it could pass for velvet. No sugar, of course. Here, the sweetness comes from the bean itself and the care with which it’s treated. I said nothing. Just sat there, sipping, letting time slow down. In one corner, a couple debated anaerobic fermentation methods. In another, someone was reading about heirloom Ethiopian varietals. This is not a café for the rushed. It’s a sanctuary for those who know that coffee has terroir, history, character. I left with a bag of washed Ethiopian beans, a handwritten list of recommendations, and the deep satisfaction that I had experienced something more than a cup of coffee—I had been part of a story. Recommended for: Those who seek specialty coffee handled with respect, precision, and love. Not for those just looking for “something with milk.”

One of my most favourite coffee houses in the entirety of Hamburg. The coffee is first rate. Some of the best if not the best in the city. The cafe is a gorgeous space to sit and relax in for a a while. And the cake......well, go and see for yourself. Wonderful atmosphere and a chunk of history to boot.

Great experience! I bought the tour+tasting session and it was amazing although it was only in German but there are English audio guides. The staff are really nice and passionate about coffee and the coffees in the tasting are very high quality especially the Ugandan Robusta. 10/10 would come here again :)
Noppy N — Google review
First of all, the place is beautifully designed — just like its name, almost a museum. And when it comes to coffee, you can taste their mastery from the very first sip. But here’s a problem: someone, by mistake, must have let a sun slip inside — a barista, perhaps. Not just light and warmth — no, a living sun… moving with grace, laughing softly, setting hearts alight. She dances, she glows… and leaves you wondering — should I dare to smile, or simply look away? And now… I had to step outside. I’m cold now. Her smile, her hair, that effortless sway… the word sun can be translated into every tongue — but what of her? What name could ever hold her light? And now… In this city where I meant to be an Ernst Thälmann, I drift like Raskolnikov… Aimless, through quiet streets. Cold. For the sun has set in Hamburg now… /alikemalocalan

Great place to learn about Brahms work and life. I recommend the piano recital on the historic piano which they do once per month

Very interesting collection, you can listen to the music and there‘s a separate part one can visit (with the same ticket), including other composers. And a lovely couple explained everything in English for us!

The Brahms Museum is dedicated to the life and works of Johannes Brahms, one of the most influential composers of the 19th century. Located in the composer’s birthplace of Hamburg, Germany, the museum offers an in-depth look at Brahms’s life, his music, and his impact on classical music.
Kento M — Google review
Very informative and nice museum located in the composers' quarter - lots of interesting exhibits and very cool to have the chance to see a Tafelklavier which was owned by Brahms and upon which Brahms himself played. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and although we only had about half an hour it was definitely worth visiting!

Lovely museum - I spent a very nice rainy afternoon here. Docents are knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of opportunities to listen to music samples. Don’t miss the other “mini museums” for other composers - I especially recommend the Mahler section at the end.

Nestled in the picturesque Oevelgönne district of Hamburg, Museumshafen Oevelgönne e.V. is a delightful dockside exhibition showcasing an impressive collection of restored sailing ships and working boats from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. This charming harbor features around 20 historic vessels, including traditional German and Dutch flat-bottomed ships, fishing boats, and steam tugs that once played a significant role in establishing Hamburg as a key port city.
Some very nice and beautiful old ships to look at. There are signs on the pier that explain the history about them. Very interesting and great to visit. The most fun way to visit is taking the ferry from Landungsbrücken which is covered with the local HVV ticket.

It serves as a great starting point for a waterfront stroll towards the upscale Blankanese neighborhood. Along the way, visitors can explore historic ships at Museumshafen Oevelgonne and enjoy the beautiful Elbstrand Beach for sunset views. The viewpoint also provides an excellent vantage point to watch numerous ships passing through Hamburg's harbor.
I love this park! It has a beautiful atmosphere during the day and a breathtaking night view. I enjoy how its mood changes with the time of day. Sometimes, it’s the perfectly quiet and cozy spot to relax.

If you want to go for a walk and want to relax, please visit here. Trust me, you can spend whole day here, especially at afternoon until the sun goes down completely. A good atmosphere, with fresh air will give you a great experience. I definitely recommend it, if you visit hamburg Harbour or nearby.

It's in walkable distance from the bus station. You can also have sun bath, in one of the extended roof, located near to the pavement. It gives a commecial view to the sea and harbour area. It could be also a nice sport to see fire works during New Year eve or Harbour birthday party. You can also take a walk along the balkon and feel the sun and relax.

The Altonaer Museum in Hamburg is a cultural treasure trove focused on the art and history of Northern Germany. It showcases the development of the Elbe region, Schleswig-Holstein, and areas near the North and Baltic seas through its diverse collection. The museum's permanent exhibition features regional paintings, graphics, arts and crafts, photography, and cultural history.
Visited today with my friends from University. There was World press photo event going on from last 15 days, saw some very good photos clicked by various photographers. Museum also has some good collection of various architecture.
Jayprakash S — Google review
It's a nice museum, I especially liked the caricatures on migration, as well as the house replicas you could walk through. I was however quite shocked that the museum is largely talking about colonialism; it's ships, colonial stores, trade with the Americas, people from that time, as well as colonial pottery. There's however no comment anywhere about colonialism, on who's backs those riches were gained, and that feels highly inappropriate to be like that in 2023 still. My hope is that the museum will add some balances information about this time. I added some pictures of places where I think a quick note could be easily added.
Irene — Google review
Great exhibits, quiet and well suited for younger children on upper floors.
Kristian W — Google review
Superb museum focusing on the very interesting and quite specific history of Altona, roughly speaking the western part of Hamburg. The large museum needs several hours to be explored properly, preferably even half a day or more. The ground floor focuses on historical ships, including an awesome collection of large-scale models and the renowned series of bow statues. On the upper floors several other aspects of Altona's rich history get proper attention. The café is also pretty good.

The Feldstraße Bunker (Flakturm IV) is a massive concrete structure built during World War II to protect the city of Hamburg from Allied air raids. The imposing, densely-constructed interior doubles as an air raid shelter for Hamburg civilians, and remains one of the city's most popular tourist destinations today.
Beautifully upgraded bunker in the middle of the city. There's so much history here, and they're working on adding an exhibition inside the bunker as well. The crowning glory is the big garden at the top, beautifully lush and very serene. Great views all over the city. The walk up the steps doesn't seem as high as it looks, quite easy to do as there's lots of spots to rest as well. Plus, it's a free attraction, so definitely one not to miss!
Bianca W — Google review
This was a fun stop, and easy way to see the city from up high. There are lots of stairs so be prepared. The only negative is how crowded it was up top. They want you to buy drinks and snacks up there, so lots of people and it is hard to see over the edge. You have to get your views from the stairs, not necessarily up top. The prices for snacks were not bad, but more than if buying at ground level.
James P — Google review
Location: 25 min by walking from Harbour (river tunnel). Service: top of the bunker there is a cafe if you’d like to have a rest, there is toilet at 3rd floor. History & ambiance: pretty impressive to see such a building with interesting history & full of concrete. Waiting is just for security check as it is forbidden to have water & food. No ticket is required. Top view is amazing. Highly recommended!

The Hamburg Bunker is a fascinating landmark that combines history and modern culture. Originally a WWII air-raid shelter, it now serves as a cultural hotspot with music events, exhibitions, and a rooftop garden. The massive concrete structure is impressive, and from the top you get one of the best panoramic views over Hamburg. A unique place where history meets creativity
ASSIM H — Google review
Impressive and historic WWII bunker in the middle of Hamburg. The size and architecture are striking, and it's interesting to see how the space is being reused today. Guided tours (when available) offer fascinating insights into its past. Even just walking around the outside is worth it—lots of cool street art and a unique atmosphere. It offers such a stunning view too! A must-see for history lovers and urban explorers!

Nice place to visit although need to climb the stairs to the top. Entrance is free. Do not bring big steel/plastic water bottles as they don’t allow entry. The views going up are probably better that the view right at the top as there are many plants blocking.

Nestled in the picturesque Klein Flottbek district of Hamburg, the Jenisch House is a stunning Neoclassical estate dating back to 1834. Set within the expansive 110-acre Jenischpark, one of Hamburg's most delightful green spaces, this historic site showcases an impressive collection of period antiques that reflect the elegance of various styles from Louis XVI to Art Nouveau. Visitors can explore its beautifully preserved rooms as part of a museum affiliated with the Altona Museum.
More people, young and old, must know about this house. There was nobody as we visited! Great weekend activity to know more about Hamburg and its history.

Beautiful park and interesting mansion that includes some of the original furnishings. I was particularly interested in the bathtub that Jenisch had installed for his wife (back then, having a private bathroom was a huge project because there was no indoor plumbing to speak of). NOTE: the only reason I recommend getting tickets online ahead of time is that their system for credit card payments is a bit random so you may need to pay in cash. Also, feel free to ask the staff about the history of the house, they are incredibly well-informed and their info added immeasurably to my enjoyment of the visit.

Nice view, park and house. The pieces of furniture look really great and reconditioned. The are some paintings too, mostly portraits. The tapestry on the ground floor looks shriveled here and there. The entrance to the park is free, there were people jogging or walking their dogs. Friendly staff.

Cocktail bar
Tower Bar, located in the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, offers a classic and legendary experience. Situated 62 meters above ground, this modern classic bar provides panoramic views of the Port of Hamburg, the Elbe River, and the city's architecture. The venue is perfect for enjoying stunning sunsets and observing the vibrant nightlife below. With over 70 handcrafted cocktails, a wide selection of wines, and freshly drafted beer available, Tower Bar ensures that every guest's thirst is quenched.
The tower bar is a very good spot for a sunset drink at night. Great panoramic views of the city and the Elbe, very good cocktails for fair prices and very friendly staff. Besides the cocktails the drinks are on the more expensive side of things, but taking the view and location into account still fair. On most nights reserving a seat is recommended, as the place is rather small. As a side note: besides nuts there is no food on the menu, drinks only.

Drinks and service were great. Though you'd expect a bit of a few in a Skybar. We were facing a wall on our table, but even looking behind us, the view to the outside left much to be desired.

Lovely place with also great drink. Not that kind of chill and quiet place, but more like place to have fun with friends and chat.
Trang N — Google review
Very disappointed by the accessibility. Lift to Tower Bar isn't actually to the bar; you have to climb two flights of stairs after getting out of the lift. The view is probably lovely from the top seating area in the bar. We couldn't tell as that's up another curved set of around 20 stairs. When we arrived, with a person using a walking stick, we weren't shown to seats by the biggest window on the level we had reached, but in a darker corner with small windows. People who arrived after us were shown to the better visibility seats. If you aren't able to climb stairs I wouldn't recommend it as your view will be very restricted. Drink prices were average for a hotel bar.

Appropriately fancy. The drinks are good, but it's mostly about sitting outside with the lake view on a summer evening. I don't think you can get a better atmosphere in HH for a terrace bar. Seating is spaced out and service is generally pretty attentive.
Anudari B — Google review
The drinks were excellent (especially the Gin Basil Smash) and the view outstanding. The 20 minute wait at the door to get in (with one couple ahead of us) and 10 minute wait for the menu was very annoying. The bar was not busy at all, but for some reason there was only one person seating customers. There were however 2 security people checking for under age people. We had given ourselves an hour for drinks before going to Lakeside restaurant upstairs. Instead, we had just 20 minutes. Very disappointing.

Location: perfect. just 15min walking distance from the city centre/ Jungfernstieg the hotel is located in a quite, park like setting with direct view onto the Aussenalster water. Building: modern. the hotel has an ultra modern style with highly functional minimalism. Although it is a rather large hotel building, the shape blends organically into the surrounding Room: minimalistic, high quality furniture. Great bed. the space was optimized very cleverly and provided a high tech experience which wasn't flashy but always really useful. This includes a very well lighting concept, a sleek yet super flexible TV positioning, a fully automated toilet with bidet built-in, a rainshower shower, large mirrors, a clever cabinet semi-separet. Only downside was that it took us to fully master the electronics, but once we did, we understood how well thought through everything was (for example it took a while until we figured out how to turn off the automatic night light which is motion sense controlled... Hint: press the "💡- " button several times) Request: please upgrade to Sony TVs to make streaming content via Android better. Bar: stunning 270° view onto the Alster, from sunrise to dawn you can catch any scenic view. Service occasionally took a while but the crew was very attentive and friendly Pool: well due to COVID, you now have to book slots, with all reasonable timeslots already being blocked we couldn't really enjoy the best in-/outdoor pool Breakfast: in short the breakfast was a total disaster. Totally unacceptable. When discussing at reception however, they apologized appropriately and made sincere efforts to ensure they are interested in fixing issues like this going forward, therefore I have not reduced my rating, hoping that if I'll return next time I can fully enjoy the breakfast.

Rote Flora is a historic theater in Hamburg's Sternschanze neighborhood that was initially occupied by squatters to prevent its demolition. Since then, it has transformed into a vibrant community center hosting various events such as political talks, art exhibitions, concerts, and parties. The space is adorned with graffiti and serves as a hub for local activism and resistance against gentrification. Rote Flora also played a crucial role in supporting the nearby Golden Pudel.
We didn’t go inside. It is a political activist community center, or at least that is what we read. Can be a bit intimidating. There are homeless beds in front of the theater, they look nice and cool and chill. Do check the graffiti in the back park. Amazing!
YU Q — Google review
Beautiful graffiti place but understanding from a person living in Hamburg here lots of protests are happening, mostly by extreme left political activists. We did not go inside, just walked around the building. In the back there is a skate park which is now full with graffiti as well, gorgeous scene! In the porch of the building, lots of homeless are sleeping and asking for money. Not the most pleasant place to be in Hamburg but beautiful.

The music is very cool but the lung cancer is not. They tell you at the door no hard drugs, but the most deadly drug of them all - smoking - is perfectly fine indoors, even though it impacts the health of those who don't want to pollute their lungs. Get with the times people! Other than that, had an amazing night, although the wait at the door is unnecessarily long (it was half empty when we got inside despite having to wait an hour in a very short queue).

This 160-hectare lake is a hub for water sports enthusiasts and provides a picturesque setting in the heart of the city.
nice and there are lots of shopping places nearby, europe passage is just around the corner. Cafes and restaurants are worth to visit.

Fabulous views around. Beautiful lake and building mesmerizing your eyes..

Great place to come and chill on any day of a week.
Pavol M — Google review
The French essayist Montaigne, knowingly influenced by Seneca and Cicero, teaches us that „to philosophize is to learn how to die“. Every day we shall reflect on our transitory nature & translate such learning into the way we walk through life. How do you walk through life? Do you always listen to music, perpetually distracted from what‘s going on around you? Do you ever take the time to walk through nature and soak in all its beauty, that which is visible and that indistinguishably? Have you ever strolled along or even around the Alster, Hamburg‘s epicenter of mental health, and learned how to die? If you haven‘t, I urge you to. The lake, and its never fading aesthetics, helps you reach a climax of feeling calm and well no other lake in Europe is capable of. Life is brief. Embrace it.

For those looking to take their Alster experience to the next level, renting a paddle boat or kayak is a must! Cruising along the river allows you to fully appreciate its beauty from a different perspective. The gentle breeze, the sound of water lapping against the boat, and the occasional chirping of birds create a soothing symphony that soothes the soul. If you're a photography enthusiast, the Alster offers endless opportunities to capture stunning shots. From the iconic lakeside villas to the picturesque bridges that span the river, every frame feels like a work of art waiting to be captured. Moreover, the Alster has a wide range of cafés and restaurants nearby, where you can sit back, relax, and savor some delectable treats while enjoying the view. There's something truly magical about sipping a hot cup of coffee or indulging in a slice of cake as you watch the world go by, with the Alster as your backdrop.

Observation deck
Perched atop the Stintfang hill, Jugendherberge Hamburg offers a prime location near the harbor with stunning panoramic views. The youth hostel provides a simple yet nicely decorated accommodation with inclusive breakfast and accessible meals throughout the day. Visitors can access a viewing platform in front of the building, offering mesmerizing vistas of the entire port, museum ship, landing bridges, Elbphilharmonie building, and St Michael church. Additionally, guests can enjoy sitting areas for relaxation and photo opportunities.
Viewpoint - right next to the port. Centrally located next to the metro station. Delicious wursts two minutes from the observation deck.

Great view over the harbour, especially during the sunset.

nice view of the city and the harbour. great place to have a break during your city tour.
Alfistinoxx — Google review
I'd rather go up the Elb Opera house than check out this place as an observation deck. You don't get to see as much, it's a metro station platform entrance and there are usually people here trying to talk to you for something
Marin K — Google review
So beautiful. This is my favourit spot to watching a beautiful sunrise in Hamburg
Annisa N — Google review
Perfect view point, have to climb a little bit but it's worth, the view is mesmerizing, you can see the whole port the museum ship is right in the middle, the landing bridges, the Elbphilharmonie building, the St Michael church. There are sitting places and you can make memorable pictures from there. Can get there right from the U-Bahn station Landings bracken
Ramona D — Google review
Not exactly clean park, but only a few stairs to a viewpoint with a typical view of the city ;)

Inner Alster, located in Hamburg, is divided by a dark and imposing bridge that separates the Aussenalster and Binnenalster sides of the lake. The bridge is adorned with carefully sculpted street lamps and even bears the German flag on one end, adding to its gothic charm. The area also features the Hamburger Hof shopping arcade within Hamburg's Jungfernstieg, where visitors can explore the Alsterhaus department store among other highlights.
Very nice place. Around the alster you may find a lot of nice coffeeshops and restaurants. It is close to Rathaus, which is a must see in Hamburg. If you have kids, renting a paddleboat is a very fun activity. Also shopping centers Europa Passage and Alsterhaus are close. I highly recommend to spend a day at the Inner Alster...

TWOSIX, formerly known as Weinbar 26, is situated on the 26th floor of Radisson Blu at Dammtor. This rooftop bar offers a stunning view of Hamburg from a height of over 118 meters and features an exquisite wine selection from 26 top winemakers, along with 26 varieties of gin and delectable bar snacks.
Breathtaking Hamburg view! The perfect spot for you to relax, enjoy some snacks and beer while overlooking beautiful Hamburg. Highly recommend and will definitely come back!

Great view from top of the building. Food: smaller portions but elevated tastes. Nice place to spend evening. Favourite : Dessert - Malaba
Rijuta B — Google review
Super breathtaking view rooftop bar, very nice drinks and super friendly staff!
J R — Google review
Giving it a 2 just because of the view, otherwise it would have been a 1 star. Service extremely slow, from taking the order, to getting our drinks on the table. The nachos in the picture were 8€, for that price I would have expected a bit more than 20 pieces of cold nachos from a bag and bad guacamole. Surely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone out there, there are better rooftop bars! In addition to this, I called asking if the place was pet friendly, and they said no, HOWEVER I saw a dog in that bar sitting ON THE furniture, really not consistent and hygienic.

Scenic spot
Campari Lounge Hamburg is a chic cocktail spot with a relaxed atmosphere, offering stunning lake views from its roof terrace. Located on the outskirts of the vibrant St. Georg district, it's part of The George Hotel and serves a variety of drinks, including Campari cocktails and even six-liter Methuselah bottles of champagne. Visitors can enjoy Campari Affair's time from Monday to Saturday with Campari drinks and Italian snacks from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Hamburg offers many unique panoramas. During sundown the view of sailboats on the Alster from our roof terrace is certainly one of the most beautiful. A sundown spent above the rooftops of the city in our Campari Lounge puts Hamburg at your feet. Our Campari aperitif – a long drink with an anti-pasti plate – will put you in the mood for dinner at DaCaio or an unforgettable night in the Hanseatic City. Want to have all of this for yourself? It's no bother: We'd be happy to reserve the lounge for you exclusively.
