Beautiful coffee roasters with a gorgeous cafe. The staff are very friendly and efficient, the patrons are eclectic, and the atmosphere is very hipster/stylish. The smell of roasting coffee beans is devine as well! I don't think I've ever had avocado toast with peas mashed into it, creative and unusual for sure, but very fresh and delicious. Perfectly poached eggs and delicious coffee, what more could you want!

Great first stop in Hamburg. Very welcoming service, even at peak hour, which is appreciated as an outsider. Coffee is absolutely delicious and on par in price with any other boutique coffee shop. Ordered the waffle with fruit and maple syrup and it was a good no frills waffle. Very recommended and the best coffee I had in Hamburg.

Amazing place to hangout in Hamburg. Flat white was amazing ended up drinking 2 of them. The food is easily customisable and I would definitely come here again. Recommend scrambled eggs with sourdough bread and avocado cream on the side. And of course the acai bowl

Great filtered coffee and Asai bowl. Excellent service. Amazing for first dates and dinning breakfast/brunch. They roast the coffee beans on the spot and offer different filtering options. Great selection of items – doesn’t feel there’s too many options that it’s hard to choose. Highly recommended for rainy days. Must visit for lovers of açaí and filtered coffee.

Great coffee, friendly team, delicious food (we tried the waffles and avo with eggs). No wait on a Monday but a bit of a queue on weekends (if like us you hadn’t made a reservation), but worth the wait. Kids enjoyed watching the coffee roasting on Monday morning ☺️

Very very friendly staff with great service. Place allows dogs inside and once we sat down the waitress brought us a bowl of water for our dog. It will be my go-to breakfast spot even though we live 45 minutes away

A time powerhouse of a cafe. Very modern and sleek. The coffee was outstanding and so was the service. The baristas are very knowledgeable about coffee and the creative drinks they concoct. They have a restroom and the clientele are mostly friendly people from the neighborhood. A short walk from and to anywhere in Neustadt Viertel. Go! Enjoy!

First of all, their coffee is delicious. The staff is very helpful. There are not many tables and chairs, but you can find a place because it is not too crowded. There is a toilet inside.

A 7-minute walk from Stadthausbrücke, I stopped by this café before visiting the nearby Composer’s Museum. Though the interior isn’t particularly spacious, the relaxed atmosphere, complemented by the casual wood-toned decor, makes it an inviting spot. I ordered a flat white with oat milk and a mocha cake. The flat white was mild and silky, while the mocha cake was a bit drier than I had anticipated, though the flavor was perfectly fine. The prices are average, and the barista provided friendly service. It’s a great place to visit while exploring the heart of Hamburg.

You walk and immediately think - they know what they are doing. Their availability of different espresso blends is fantastic. The baristas helped us pick what roast to try. We went with one of each (first love (our fav) and I believe the other once was called dark temptation or something similar. It’s perfect for people that like a more strong and on the bitter side flag white/ have their coffee with sweet pastries 🥐) we went to sit outside and it was lovely!! Definitely a big recommendation from my side.

This apparently is the original location of the Public Coffee Roasters cafés. The café is very small with around 12 seats, some more outside in the summer time. The interior is spartan but cozy. Less stuff for sale than other Public locations and no food here. We like that. Extremely friendly staff and very good coffee. We tried the Flat White and it was exceptional. We will come back for more.

Coffee was just Ok in my opinion. Nothing special, didn’t taste amazing or anything. I did like the vibe inside though, love the colors.

The aesthetic and vibe here is pretty on point. The coffee I got was good, but the milk was slightly off and it made what could have been a 5 star experience slightly less. I would try this again.

Really terrible long black despite all the efforts at doing proper coffee. They weren’t displaying their beans so I don’t know what they were and when they were roasted. But I could also be down to the barista. Vibe is a little off due to the trust-fund-kid clientele. Ordering system also super weird - you wait in line for all the oat-milk-lattes to be ordered and made while customers tiptoe around the bar trying to figure out when and where their coffees will appear, and you then have to find yourself a table with coffee in hand. I wish I had tried the roaster venue first, might have been better.

I was initially hesitant to visit this place due to some negative reviews about the staff being unfriendly and rude. However, I've also heard that they serve really good coffee, so I decided to give it a chance. While I understand that the baristas might be busy and finding it difficult to smile all the time, I didn't find them to be rude during my visit. Although I do think that they were overwhelmed with the long lines. The drinks are great and their decaf options were great too.

Very tasty coffee, I would really recommend the place for coffee lovers. Variety of brewed coffee is huge, latte is very mild. What was really shocking for me - the cheesecake was not fresh. I am attaching a picture where you can see that the back of the cake is dried out already.

I had ordered a latte, which I always drink because I can only handle something very light. However, the one I received was so light, even for me. It was almost like it had no coffee taste at all. So, I went back and asked if they could add an extra shot. Three of the employees (I believe one of them was the manager) gathered together and said, ‘So?’ I repeated my request, and I wasn’t mean or loud or anything. They were unfriendly, and told me to pay for the extra shot. Which was totally okay, thankfully I have money for an extra shot :) The problem is their lack of ability to communicate with customers and resolve issues. I mean it doesn’t necessarily take three people to decide whether to add an extra shot or not. :) also you could have done it in a friendly manner, if not free of charge

The coffee used to be amazing everyday. This year, it tastes sometimes watery. But the worst of all is the service. There are SO unfriendly. Even though we come every second day, there are never smiling, never saying hello or thank you. The girls are having attitudes all the time. I don’t understand why the direction let those people ruins their reputation…

Amazing coffee, in this times we couldn't enjoy it sitting inside, took it only to go, but, the barista was great, experienced, nice and cool, the oat milk flat white and the oat milk cappuccino were great, had a slight nutty flavour, we loved it and will definitely come back, to take it to go or later on also to enjoy it inside, once it is possible again.

Well balanced Americano in a nice coffee cup and a glass of water. Sandwiches and cakes available, also WiFi and work spaces. Recommend 👍

Best coffee in Hamburg so far. They use only fresh roasted beans and high quality gear. The staff seems very accommodating and personally engaged in making great coffee. Cozy atmosphere outside the cafe under tall trees and limited traffic volume. This place has ONLY 5star rating - extremely rare!

I had a lovely experience at Café Johanna. I was a bit hesitant because it was my first day in Germany and I don't speak German, so I didn't know how the locals would react, but the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I had the porridge, which tasted wonderful and I have been dreaming about since. I also ordered a cappuccino, which was also delicious and expertly done. Overall a great experience and I wish I could come back to visit it again!

Dropped by Café Johanna on a Saturday around 12:15 PM. Parking was a little tricky, and the café was already buzzing with people. The place has a homely feel, filled with friendly chatter and the constant sound of pans and pots from the open kitchen, which actually adds to the charm. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. My scrambled eggs with crispy toast were perfect ..light, fluffy eggs and just the right crunch on the bread. The croissants were fresh and warm too. The cappuccino and latte were fine, though I prefer mine a bit hotter. The menu was different and interesting, not the usual café choices. I loved how every table, chair, and piece of crockery seemed unique, giving the place a creative, eco friendly vibe. It felt like a spot where people come more to talk and relax than rush through a meal. Service was a bit slow, probably because of the Saturday crowd, but it was worth the wait. Would definitely go back to try more from their menu on a quieter day.

Everything was super tasty and the quality-price-quantity ratio was super good! You really need to come early if you want a table (especially outside) it full super quick! I recommend this place it was good and everyone is really nice !

Cafe Johanna is one of the most beautiful cafes I've ever been to. great location, tasteful furnishings and nice staff. the food was incredibly delicious. I had sourdough bread with greyuere cheese and homemade jam, but the poridge was absolutely amazing. Everything else I saw from my neighbors looked fantastic too. I'll definitely come back. Found this nice place for breakfast whilst walking down to schlagermove! Service was attentive and friendly and breakfast options were good and tasty. Sourdough bread was really good. Fresh juice and coffee were excellent. We did feel prices were on the high side, but the quality was good. Overall recommended

This is a hidden gem in the Landungsbrücken area. Excellent coffee, cakes, pastries, and even grilled cheese sandwiches! The pumpkin spice latte was out of this world and so delicious! I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone and will certainly come back.

2024.02.07: my first café experience in Hamburg, I drunk a double espresso, which was nice. The sparkling water besides was really tasty, I know it sounds funny, but still. Also they had no problem with using a laptop for a while, but also had no Wi-Fi. The lamps and the disco ball are cute and stylish.

Wonderful spot to grab a coffee and a small bite. The cafe latte was excellent with the right amount of foam. While the cafe is cash only, the quality overall is sufficient to overlook this minor point. The small bites are reasonably priced and with a good selection. Cozy seating with big bright windows makes this a great spot to stay for a drink.

Great coffee - the barista knows his coffees and has excelent skills. You can choose between two of their three own roasts ording your coffees. We just had some coffees, however, the tarts and cakes looked stunning as well! Not only a take away coffee place having a few seats in a cosy atmosphere.

Loved this small cafe! Delicious coffee, food and super friendly staff - limited seats outside at the moment but perfect when the sun is shining as it was when I visited. Photo of my quark with granola w/pistachios, apricot compote and nectarines doesn’t do it justice - it was so good! The open faced sandwiches looked fantastic and the fresh baked cinnamon rolls smelled amazing. Can’t wait to go back!

Good light roasted coffee. The espresso based drinks are all great. I wasn't too fond of their filter. If you look for cakes and brunch that is also the right place to go to.

This place is so lovely and the staff is really wonderful. They were clearly so busy and had people waiting but came to talk to us and explain the menu really carefully and warmly. Our food and drinks were really special and prepared with heart. The juice was especially lovely. The sandwich was really yum and we can’t wait to try more :)

Run by a delightful brother-and-sister duo, this little café really is something different. The latte I had here is absolutely amazing, the best I've had in Hamburg (and I've tried a good amount). Oh and when they say cheese sandwich they mean cheese sandwich. It might be more cheese than sandwich, and it works out brilliantly.

Nice atmosphere! The coffee and matcha were good. The barista was very unfriendly and bad mannered though; he would toss stuff and even gave us a dirty cup.

This place is amazing! Deserve five stars even more. I like the ambience of being here, especially with warm as well as friendly environment. Their staffs are super awesome, I visited this place twice and the second time was on the weekend, definitely you need to reserve a seat, otherwise you need to wait (but the staffs / manager are super solutive and friendly) The coffee is amazing, tried their americano and cappuccino with soya milk. They also have some options in cake or pastries. I bookmarked this place as one of my favorite places to hangout.

We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine as they reopened after remodeling the space. Nice way to be welcomed. We had a quiche, a cake and a yoghurt with fruit. The quiche I found delicious, well rounded flavour profile with a teeny bit of spice. The cherry cake was good and the yoghurt a little to water-y, but that might have been the heat (30C in Hamburg). We were somewhat disappointing with the new remodel, as it's difficult to really understand the concept. Some elements are rather fancy, others belong more into a a hipster coffee shop and then there are bizarre photos. Helmut Schmidt smoking, which is fair enough, but also a photo of an ash tray. It is a none smoking Cafe. There is also really no connection to Die Zeit unfortunately.

10/10 everyting is just amazing. By far the best coffee in Hamburg and the cake is amazing as well. Staff is aaalways super nice and the new look is just soo pretty :) 10/10 every day!

The coffee was really good! I also enjoyed the cozy atmosphere inside the shop. However, I wouldn't recommend the cakes. I ordered the Marmorkuchen and it was quite dry.

If you are looking for an authentic place to enjoy tasty coffee this is the place to go. They are also giving coffee tasting workshops. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Also a great shop to buy beans, large variety of coffee for coffee lovers.

This review is only about the guided tour: We had booked a 50min guided tour of the cellar/basement. The ticket clearly said tour of the cellar and gave timings of 50min. The guide arrived 5min late which is ok. The guide was very friendly and told great stories about coffee roasting and history — we appreciated his passion and knowledge. But he spent 60min giving us a lecture of two machines in the upper cafe. Finally we were taken to basement/museum. But there he just collected us in a circle and again gave lecture of 20min. We could not stay more because we had to catch our train. They should be better organized. The people from the coffee tasting (2h experience) were patched together with those who just wanted the guided tour of basement. Huge waste of money. I would advise people to just book self tour of museum with audio app so you can view the entire basement. Much cheaper.

One of my most favourite coffee houses in the entirety of Hamburg. The coffee is first rate. Some of the best if not the best in the city. The cafe is a gorgeous space to sit and relax in for a a while. And the cake......well, go and see for yourself. Wonderful atmosphere and a chunk of history to boot.

Great experience! I bought the tour+tasting session and it was amazing although it was only in German but there are English audio guides. The staff are really nice and passionate about coffee and the coffees in the tasting are very high quality especially the Ugandan Robusta. 10/10 would come here again :)

We ordered a long black, an iced filtered coffee and a Croissant Royal. The presentation was awesome and the taste was impeccable. The waitress was really nice even though she was busy taking orders, delivering the plates and even charging and giving back change, she was never impatient with us. Huge thumbs up and would totally recommend this place.

Went today for the first time to try something new and different in Hamburg for breakfast/brunch. The menu is clear and concise with less than a dozen dishes to choose from (each can be adapted at an additional expense). The place is popular and you’ll likely have to queue for a table (at peak times). I was there at 9.15 and had to wait about 10 mins (which was ok). There is limited seating (I’d guess around 20 -24 people) so longer waits may be necessary depending on when you go. As it’s breakfast the turn around is relatively swifter than conventional dining. But the wait was worth it. The dishes are vibrant and freshly made to order. I tried the Turkish Eggs Platter. Excellent flavours and poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The dishes are above average in both quality and price but worth it. The coffee is excellent. Check their menu first for prices. All in this was an excellent place for healthy start to the day and completely different from the usual breakfast places. Great job 👍

The waitresses were just pretending to be busy — walking back and forth while keeping several people waiting outside, even though there were at least half a dozen empty seats. After 15 minutes, they finally gave us a “shared” table. We then waited another 10 minutes, hoping for the “busy” waitress to notice us or make eye contact so we could finally order. After another 15 minutes, our coffee arrived — overly roasted and clearly overbrewed to hell. It was beyond bitter. 0/5. Then, 10 minutes later, our food came. Simply put: awful. The focus was all on presentation. Everything looked shiny and “fancy,” but the taste? Absolute zero. We ordered French toast and Turkish eggs. Neither of us were even slightly happy with our dishes. The flavors were just weird. It felt like someone tried way too hard to be creative and ended up ruining the entire experience.

The place was so cozy, we sat outside and we're seated straight away. The service was very good and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The yoghurt and granola was one of the nicest I've had, the granola I think is home made and the presentation was fantastic.

I had the most delicious Turkish eggs here, and it was truly unforgettable. The dish came with tahini-labneh, perfectly poached eggs, lemon-hummus, harissa chickpeas, spring onions, sumac, brown butter, sourdough bread, and fresh herbs. The combination of flavors was outstanding – rich, balanced, and full of depth. The portion size was just right: filling but in the best possible way. But the real highlight? The coffee. As an Australian-style café, they know exactly how to do it right. I ordered a flat white and it was one of the best I’ve ever had: smooth, no bitterness, with just the right touch of brightness. Pure perfection in a cup. Marshall Street Coffee is a must-visit in Hamburg if you love great food and exceptional coffee. Highly recommend!

Food and coffee was delicious. I got the french toast. The coffee was the best I had during my stay in Germany. Try their Rwanda-Rugali. My favorite coffee of the year. I'd buy a kilo to ship to the states if I could. It was so tasty!

the kräuter and cheese sandwich didn't have much kräuter in it... so it was not great value at €7.50 the chai latte was good, my friend had a matcha latte which didn't taste particularly strong but it was alright.

I like the atmosphere of the coffee lab. Decoration is cozy. I try pain de chocolate, cinnamon roll, blueberry muffin and americano. I dont like americano but i like pain de chocolate ☺️ ı think blueberry muffin is not fresh.

Coffee was okay. Nothing exceptional for a specialty coffee but service was so bad. First of all, you cant be picking up clients while using headphones and you cant put a croissant in a broken plate. Attached a picture because i know its hard to believe that you pay for stuff in broken plates

I don't know how is it in the other days, but yesterday afternoon was pretty bad. There were a lot of people and the employees couldn't manage to finish their job fast and the girl made my coffee very bad. They should pay attention and make the coffee with love. I don't blame her, probably is the bosses guilt. Anyway maybe next time would be better.

I heard this café has really good coffee, so I decided to check it out. I ordered a cappuccino, and it was good — smooth and rich in flavor. The place is small and cozy, with a few outdoor seats where you can enjoy your drink. I also noticed a lot of people buying coffee beans, which probably means they’re pretty popular! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Excellent coffee shop in Hamburg featuring small batch roasted specialty coffee. Hip decor inside with fun music when I was there (though maybe not the best for work calls!). Weather was nice so I saw outside under a tree at their outdoor tables. Flat white was delicious and well prepared. Beans were Guji from Ethiopia and the barista did an excellent job preparing it. He was also very friendly when I asked about the beans. Can highly recommend if you are in the area.

I’d give it a 4.5 if I could. The pour over was excellent. The flavor was bright and had a nice fruitiness to it. The croissant was good as well, with a soft texture but not overly flaky. The shop itself is also cool with high ceilings but limited seating. And then the barista seemed to not want to do a v60 for some reason, but reluctantly agreed, so not sure what that was about. Good place to do and get a drink if you’re in the area though.

Very good coffee, cool vibe, industrial style, basically the best coffee I had in Hamburg. I love the concept of choosing your own milk for free. Lovely outdoor seats and indoor feel cozy as well. Will definitely go again and try their cake, looks homemade and tasty!

Very nice place. Inside the restaurant is very nicely decorated. We were there for the breakfast and you can find very nice french bakery and breakfast in the menu. We had croissant sandwiches and croque monsieur. All were very delicious. The menu was very nice for the evening and dinner too. It’s a very nice stop in the city

The breakfasts are excellent, from tartare cheval to avocado on toast topped with a poached egg Quite busy on weekends, but the preternaturally calm wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Café Paris exceeded our expectations during our Saturday afternoon visit. Despite not having a reservation, we were promptly seated. The interior, boasting an elegant art nouveau style, added to the charm of the place, exuding historical vibes. We savored a delightful small beef tartare and brunch set, both of which were delicious. The staff were incredibly nice and friendly, enhancing our overall experience. We had breakfast in a Sunday. We arrived around 9:30 which still was okay to get a table without having to reserve. The staff was really accommodating!! We had our luggage for our later train which they stored for us while we were eating. The food was simple but amazingly good! 👍 The coffee is exceptional!

Simple things are often the best. I took an espresso and Franzbrötchen in take away and both did not disappoint. The Brötchen, very traditional in Hamburg was probably the best I have ever had, still slightly warm, delicious! There are also plenty of options to sit and relax inside.

We came across this place by chance on Saturday morning and decided to give it a try. It was extremely crowded, and unfortunately, the smell of fried food was very strong — it sticks to your clothes. The omelette was tasty, but the coffee was a bit below average, giving off a strong “machine coffee” vibe (if it wasn’t actually from a machine — if it was, then it’s acceptable). Would we come again? Probably not.

Nice cafe and restaurant. We went there for breakfast during the week so space wasnt a problem. Breakfast was very good and service very efficient. There is also an area for take away drinks/food. On the first floor there is a shop and an area for working.

The coffee was good. However, the cashier was unable to differentiate between two types of coffee, despite their completely different pronunciations. The barista said “fxxk” in front of customers when the mistake was pointed out, which was highly unprofessional. The staff clearly need better training in both product knowledge and customer service.

The place looks great, the cappuccino was Ok ish and the Franz tasted as if it was not fully baked. Service was also not the friendliest, did not ask whether to eat in or take. He simply put in a bag and gave me a small size coffee to go. I pointed out that I would like to eat in, but my request was simply shrugged off.

The place is very very cute. We ordered the Classic breakfast for 2 and the option for one, and it was surprisingly enough for our party. Tasty croissants, butter, cheese and fruits, also a very good yogurt and delicious pastries. Staff was also pleasant and nice The chocolate pie was divine! I only wished the lemonade wasn’t so sweet, and that the orange juice was fresh instead of from a box.

Small, cute shop. The pastry looks very nice, and it's on the rather pricy side. We were disappointed to learn that the macarons and cookie ice cream sandwiches are only served in the summer season, starting from May.

A great place for afternoon tea, with a lovely selection of teas and desserts. Two drinks (pot of tea + hot chocolate with marshmallows) and one dessert cost 12 euros. We had the "Princess Macaron" which was very yummy and my boyfriend's favourite! We spotted the table next to us having high tea, which also looked delicious.

We went there at around 6:30 on a Monday for a coffee because every single coffeeshop in the area was closed. But we were not disappointed. The carrot cake especially was very good, as well as the cappuccino I had.

Fabulous Cafe for breakfast and brunch. Lots of healthy and filling options. Always a nice choice for a vegetarian or meat lover. Soup of the day as seen in pics was a hearty cauliflower soup with garlic croutons. Be sure to save room for dessert. They have a fabulous cake selection to go with your latte.

Excellent coffee and latte macciatto! Really creamy, almost velvety. Opens at 9am (incl. Saturdays) and, if you're there somewhat early you'll get a nice spot. Good breakfast variety with fresh bread options and tasty cheeses too. Highly recommendable.

Kudos to the team—they manage the flow of customers so swiftly, even on a super busy Sunday afternoon, while keeping a smile on their face and being fast&efficient. I was impressed—this level of service is not a given at most of popular places (left alone, coffeeshops). Naturally, Elbgold has quite a name in Hamburg—their blends are phenomenal, and this year I also discovered their sweet and savoury pastry selection. Should I say that everything was on point, and the cardamom bun is the best one I’ve had in a while.

Short and crunchy (as the Alman likes to say): Elbgold just owns the game. The design as well as the baristas and their equipment is sophistically dedicated to the fine art of coffee - and, most importantly: their latte comes with two shots of espresso. One of the really good coffee places in Hamburg!! We had the cold filter coffee and a crème brûlée bun which was amazing. The place is really nice and the ambience is top notch!

Had the pleasure of visiting this place while visiting my family in Hamburg… Not enough words to describe how delicious everything is there! Amazing coffee from my birth country, Costa Rica … the smell and taste was incredible! The costumer service was spectacular too, and the bread used in the sandwiches was tasty. It was a nice breakfast. Unlike many other places, the option for two was quite satisfying and filling. The service was a bit slow, Another downside is the location by the road and sidewalk — passing cars, delivery trucks, and cargo handling equipment can be both disturbing and visually unappealing. , but other than that, it was a tasty and enjoyable meal. We’d be happy to visit again if we happen to be in the area.

In general, the breakfast is really nice. I would definitely recommend it for a Sunday brunch. A reservation beforehand is def a good idea. The staff is very kind and attentive and they are doing their best to cope with the huge workload during "rush hours". Unfortunately, it is insufficient, so you can count with long waiting times until your order is taken. I received my food 1 hour after the time of my reservation. Moreover, the breakfast for two includes only one croisannt. This is weird, wrong and looks poor. Salt for the eggs and a small bucket for rests might be a good idea. Food and drinks were fresh and tasty. Just some small details need to be smoothened up.

Great place with a romantic atmosphere. The food was delicious, the only downside is that if you don’t have a car, it’s quite a long walk, and they only accept cash. We didn’t know about this and had to walk all the way to the airport just to withdraw money from the ATM.

If you are a fan of planes, airport, cake and coffee, then this is the place for you. I ordered Tres Leches cake and it was tasty. P.s. It may taste too sweet to some or someone who is on a diet. You can sit and smoke outside as well. If you have kids, could a place for spending a lazy afternoon on a weekend.

I like to come here for the great coffee ☕️ and the delicious croissants 🥐 It’s lovely during the good season to seat outside! Unfortunately during winter it get pretty crowded, specially due to people working at their laptop, just with a coffee and staying for hours… If you decide to sit upstairs it’s very uncomfortable as you have the feeling you are annoying/disturbing them ! But that’s just my personal experience … that’s why I can’t give a 5 star ⭐️ Definitely recommend for the coffee and the croissants 😊

We visited for the first time this place today. We started in a little queue which was a bit uncomfortable, however the products and the youngish staff make us a special experience. If you are in Blankenese, it’s a super cool option for a rest.

Such a cool concept, this hip coffee place! The vibe in this place is super comfortable with nice music. Very nice minimalistic style black and white, with the menus written on the walls in a museum like font. The owner seems to be a Japanese origin guy, who is putting so much thought into making his coffee that the procedure looks like art, a pure joy of watching. He even is testing the coffee with some kind of machine on the quality. His kitchen is highly equipped with the latest technical goodies, in the same minimalistic style, amazing! Unfortunately he puts too much thought into making his coffee and it took like 30 minutes before we got ours. (The place was full) We took a coffee with chocolate mousse and fermented plum-sauce. Very nicely presented on a nice plate along with a ‘license plate’ with all the information. Super idea! The coffee didn’t really taste so special, but was tasty. We ordered 2 coffees, 2 teas and a croissant and he forgot about the 2 teas and the croissant, so we wanted to leave. When we notified him, he felt genuinly sorry and he did not charge us for the coffees. Nice gesture from him! To combine, very nice concept and amazing place. Some finetuning, perhaps a bigger place and some more hands and this could be a worldwide chain destroying Starbucks!

It's an absolutely amazing coffee place that i can't explain it with just words. You'll feel like you're in your own home with your family enjoying (some) cup of coffee. Everything's made in here is absolutely perfect. Temperatures, taste, and the extract of its beans is absolutely out from itself that it feels like you're not drinking a cup of coffee. The side dishes are also a top notch where a Cinnamon cake could taste like a banana WITHOUT a banana in it. The staffs are so friendly, i feel like i don't want to go home. Spending more than just a cup of coffee is normal in here and will worth every single penny of it. It's indeed, the place that serves the best coffee in Hamburg (and till now the best coffee I've ever had in my life) 11/10 Would visit again just for the coffee

Starting back in 2014 CODOS now is one of the best coffee places in Hamburg Altona - with already three different places in Hamburg, and one in Berlin as well. Delivering finest Barista arts with their own roasts they also serve cakes and stuff. The coffee place supports laptop work in the big window area as well as coming with a cosy hangaround seating area. If you like your coffee within a stylish but somewhat familiar setting you should check it out.

Beautiful setting, especially the terrace with a lovely view of the lake — if you’re lucky, you might even catch a rainbow! The prices are reasonable considering the location and the view. The food quality was nothing special — quite average. The restroom was clean but unfortunately had a strong odor. There is no dedicated parking for cars, so it’s best to come by public transport or use one of the nearby public parking lots.

This place is always lively, yet there’s no shortage of seating. The prices are fair, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is wonderful thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows and central location. Dining while enjoying the beautiful view of the lake was truly a highlight.

ALEX Hamburg boasts an unbeatable lakeside location on the Binnenalster with large windows and a lively terrace — perfect for people-watching or a relaxed drink. The menu is extensive and caters to many tastes, but the food quality is often described as average and the prices reflect the prime spot. Service fluctuates: friendly during quiet times, but over-stretched when busy. Overall: go for the view, not for gourmet excellence.

We went for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed it. The buffet was quite varied and the setting by the lake was absolutely beautiful — a perfect spot to relax and take in the view. We paid €23.90 (July 2025), which is slightly higher on Sundays. The only downside was that coffee and tea weren’t included in the brunch price. They only serve a small glass of orange juice as a drink, which felt a bit limited.

There was no wait at all in the late afternoon, but was still rather busy. The food was very good and delicious, except the drinks. They were a bit too concentrated. Besides that, it’s a lovely place to dine.

The food was overall good we enjoyed the pasta and schnitzel the pastrami was a disappointment, it didn’t taste as good and it was also really hard to eat. The place had a nice atmosphere, it was a bit cold so we couldn’t eat outside but it has also a really nice view!

Nice view, sadly food is served after 12 before u have just breakfest menu and biggest disappointment is that they don’t have Labskaus. Good is deserts are properly bug not just small tiny bit.

Below average food with high prices! I had a burger here which the meat quality was very average the bun was nothing exceptional while it closed 27 euro! The food taste and quality simply doesn’t live up with the price and restaurant ambience! Perhaps it’s a tourist trap we got stuck. The service was ok. She made us wait 2-3 minutes in front of door while the restaurant was very empty. I would not go back and will not recommend it

Not the best place to eat. Prices are unreasonable… Botle of still water costs 10,5, glass of bear 6,9. Very poor wine list. Interior is nice… service… oh… restaurant was empty but we waited 3-4 minutes to be sited. But to say truth our waiter was rather pleasant. Food… very simple and 100% not the best.

Good yet expensive Food. Nice location and atmosphere. Fish (~22€) and schnitzel (~18€) were both delicious and I can fully recommend them. Mixed audience both young and old. The Restaurant is also known for Good Brunch which we although did Not test. Recommended.

A very nice place that offers a smaller menu than most places, but a very good menu that will satisfy you. The food is heavily influenced by the region. Fish soup, different kinds of fish, popular street foods like currywurst and hamburger and vegan/vegetarian food (sadly only 2 dishes in total). I had the Matjes with potatoes, green beans and bacon. And it was delicious. Great selection of drinks be it non-alcoholic, wine, beer or coffee. Good old reliable Alsterwasser for me. Also a wide variety of aperitifs and digestifs. Cozy and beautiful interior, as well as a welcoming outside seating area. Clean and funny restroom. Lovely staff. Can recommend.

Cafe Gnosa is a brilliant historic gem. A beautiful old cafe that you can instantly feel its popularity simply by the number of locals who frequent it. Super polite, fast and efficient service, with a great range of food to cater for all tastes. The cakes in the display case had me drooling in anticipation and they certainly like to give you a generous slice. I loved and highly recommend this old gem and will definitely return when I’m next in Hamburg.

Service was very ''German'' standard. Not particularly friendly but not particularly rude. But the food was good. It's kinda ''rare'' in Germany to serve temperature-hot food, but the food was very hot, which was excellent. Atmosphere was good, loved the paintings there. Cozy and comfy setting.

Customer service has been declining… I always visit this cafe whenever I come to Hamburg but maybe not anymore. They gave me spaghetti instead of penne pasta and when I returned they told me this is all we have. Chairs outside are placed so close a lady hit me with a bag on my head while moving. They didn’t makeup for anything after poor treatment. Spaghetti was dry and tasted stale.

We stopped by in the late afternoon — simply because I was in the mood for a good ol’ fried fish. And what can I say? Mission accomplished. Crispy, flavorful, just right. The remoulade sauce was spot-on, and the potato salad? Solid. Nothing spectacular, but it held its ground. The view is lovely, the atmosphere laid-back, and the prices are what you’d expect in Hamburg — not cheap, but fair. The entire ordering process is digitalized, which is fine in theory. But here’s the catch: you’re prompted for a tip straight away, even though no one’s actually taken your order. The service is pretty hands-off, and for someone who’s worked decades in hospitality, it leaves a slightly strange aftertaste. That said, when a staff member did swing by the table, they were friendly and professional. All in all, tasty food and a nice spot. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

Nice place to visit during sunny summer days.. It is easy to take the boat from city center (boat is in every 20-30 minutes during weekend).. After a boat trip around half an hour you are there.. Nice streets in the village takes you to the beach.. Not very convenient for swimming because the rocky ground at the lake.. Nice place for the kids to play in the sand... I took a pizza there.. Was not very deliciois but pizza is pizza :)

A must go to when in Hamburg, despite of London like prices and not exactly a gourmet temple. But the views, service and atmosphere are great.

Slow service but a beautiful view makes up for it. The staff is very nice though. They charge 50 cents for the toilet, which is a bit odd considering they have a table service.

A great place to chill and do the vesselwatching. Cargo ships, cruise liners, duty boats. Amazing. You can enjoy a cup of coffee, or a beer in a cafe. Some nice snacks too. Could be crowded at the weekends. The only thing to mind: the sand could be quite dirty and, which is dangerous, with pieces of broken glass. So one should take care.

Nice coffee place in the heart of St Pauli. Seating is arranged in the main area on tables and in 3 adjacent rooms on sofas with a more private and cosy feeling. Wide selection of pastries and drinks along with a breakfast buffet. Prices are reasonable and food is tasty.

As a non-local who doesn't speak German, I appreciated that we managed to communicate well. The menu was conveniently available in three languages: German, Mandarin, and English. The location is central, right near the Reeperbahn. The restaurant also has a clean toilet available for customers.

Fun lively cafe, welcoming staff and lots of guests in there. We had great sandwiches and franzbrotchen. Music was good and not overly loud. We sat in there a while as it was a good time. Definitely worth a visit!

Best coffee in Reeperbahn?! I think so!! Stopped around the corner from this place and every morning a few of us would be waiting at the door at 9am. Shame really as that is the only thing that lets it down, opening times are to late in the morning.

I have ordered a customised cake with fitness theme with lime cheese cake flavour. I loved the look of the cake. I also liked the flavour and how the sweetness is balanced well with marzipan(outer layer). The only drawback i felt was the cake was a bit hard and felt like it was baked couple of days back. Rest everything was good.

Looks cute from the outside. Lot's of options regarding warm drinks, and they have a few cakes as well. The cakes are delicious, the drinks are good as well. Have to say that I got the biggest 'large' drink ever, which was a pleasant surprise for the money. The atmosphere is laid back and the staff was chill and attentive. All in all a great place to take a break.

It's a nice cafe with good coffee and decent cake. Cake was a little bit too dry though. The lavender tea was good too. In my opinion it's a little bit too expensive too. When we were there it was also very crowded.

They have nice cakes and coffees. However, we walked for almost 30 minutes to arrive there, and it wasn't worth it. So, take a bus or tram to enjoy your cake.

This is the best cake shop I have ever been. Staff is friendly, cheerful, decorations are amazing to fit their particular "Tim Burton's grandma cake shop" style, but it would be all for nothing without the amazing pastries and cakes. On that front, they deliver an amazing experience for your sweet tooth. The blueberry semi naked cake is fluffy, tasty, moist and creamy without overdoing it, probably one of the best cakes I ever had, and presentation is amazing. I can't recommend this place enough.

We went to Gretchen’s Villa for a cozy brunch with my husband and a few friends, and it turned out to be such a delightful choice. I had the Früchte waffle, which was fresh and full of flavor. We also tried the Tomate-Mozzarella Panini and Gretchen’s Strammer Start — one with chicken and one without — and both versions were equally delicious. Our drinks — iced latte macchiato, chai latte, and cappuccino — were spot on and paired perfectly with the food. The vibe was warm and relaxed, making it a great place to unwind and catch up. Would definitely go back!

perhaps I was a bit too late, but the choice of the cakes was pretty poor. my cappuccino was okay, very milky in my taste. desserts could be a little cheaper. the girls, who are working there, has nothing on their clothes to definitely say yes, it is a personnel. so it was a bit strange to be involved in conversation by some random person until I understood she works here. so there is a place to grow, but this is a relatively good cafe.

I love coming here every time I’m in Hamburg. The Eggs with tomato, onion, and bacon on sourdough bread was very good. And a large portion that easily could be shared. Also very tasty are the waffles, which I opted for the classic Nutella and banana. The chai latte w/ oat milk also was very good (was warm even though served in a tall glass). Fair prices.

It was a recommendation from my Air B’n’B host and did not disappoint. I have been 4 here 4 times during my stay. The homemade ice teas are refreshing and delightful. I had the “Gretchens strammer Start” in variations with Avocado or ham. Always very tasty. The service was very friendly and I loved the relaxed environment! They do have a cake selection which makes it hard to pick but the Team here is happy to share their recommendations. I felt very welcome and was always greeted with a smile! Thank you! ♥️

We got an iced coffee with ice cream and a homemade lemonade. It tasted very good, however, the iced coffee lurk warm and should have been colder. Otherwise, a nice and comfy place to sit down for a quick break.

I had this on my list of places I wanted to eat at while in Hamburg, and I am so glad I got to go here ❤️ It is so cozy, very relaxing atmosphere and friendly service, and the cakes and warm drinks were very good as well. On the window it says they only accept card as payment, which was very nice for us visitors! Definitely recommend!

Flat whites were good. Bauernfrühstück and scrambled tofu (vegan) were OK. Nothing extraordinary. The service is great and so is the location. Might come back for their cakes.

Cute little cafe tucked away off the Lange Reihe. Tons of vegetarian and vegan options. I only ever had drinks, but they’re delicious. You can order them in a bowl size, something I’ve noticed seems to be a thing at multiple places on the Lange Reihe. Overall, it’s a very relaxed place that gives you a little reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the area.

Lovely coffee shop where I had breakfast and coffee a couple times. The service is nice and food is fresh and tasty. The issue is that the shopping center it is found in is rather bland and quiet. This coffee shop feels like it’s alone here. I like the upper floor looking down, and I respect the fact that service does not decline on the upper floor. For some reason, I saw fit to take pictures of the multiple angles of my coffee alone...Not sure what they put into the stuff...

Café Koppel is lovely. Stumbled on it while cycling in Hamburg. Nice home made cakes. Cool beer sortiments. Nice and warm people. There is a garden outside but often busy when the sun shines ;)

I will strongly suggest you guys to have the Swedish carrot cake, probably the best cake I've ever tried. Besides that the service was excellent and background music was super chill. Really enjoyed my breakfast and hope to come back.

Okay breakfast. Service and atmosphere good, but the food is rather boring. Nothing special. Neither the egg variations, nor the different plates with cheese etc. Also portions are pretty small, so you need 2-3 to be full. Blueberry Pancake quite tasty though.

Great place for Kaffee und Kuchen. You’ll need to reserve a table at busy times. My companions had apple and plum crumble with vanilla custard and a hazelnut cherry torte and I had a lotus cheesecake which was insanely good, with an excellent cappuccino which, unusually for most establishments, was actually warm. A friendly and competent waitress, a mixture of customers, old and young, and a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere made for a pleasant teatime experience. Definitely going back.

Very friendly people and nice vibe, the staffs are warm-hearted and trying to help. You can also order from their weekly menu (based on availability). Unfortunately my quiche is burned and I have to throw away a lot. I asked the waitress but being told this is normal… however I don’t like to eat burned food.

Worth a visit: this is a great place for Sunday brunch on the middle of Hamburg! Off the beaten track, so it's not overrun with tourists but close enough to the city center (10 minutes' walk from the Rathaus) to be easy to reach. Super friendly service in a relaxed, comfortable café. The breakfasts are delicious and the cinnamon roll was fantastic. Unfortunately we had no room for cake afterwards - that looked really good, too.

This place is quiet special and offers good breakfast options. The food was great! The prices are more on the high side, considering the size of the portions. It had been busy, therefore service and food had been a bit slow.

I must say Lindtner it’s a nice place to get cakes. But would definitely not recommend on the week ends for a coffee or food it is always crowded and beside this the service is so bad with such a bad attitude from some of the servers to welcome you. I would not say It’s a bad place to go in but based on my experiences two times I would not be pleased to come back there again 🙂

A nice cafe with delicious cakes and coffee. We arrived on Saturday at about 16.30. The choice of was very limited: sold out. So I advise to arrive earlier. I tried 2 cakes, good cream and excellent taste. 2 cakes, 1 espresso and cacao was charged 20 euro. So it is rather pricey. Atmosphere is nice. The staff could more care about cleaning the tables. Simple toilets.

The selection of cakes is very large and everything is very tasty. There is also a huge tea list for tea lovers. The service is excellent. I will definitely come back and try all the cakes.

I visited this well-known café in town with high expectations, but my experience was far from pleasant. Despite its reputation, service was extremely slow—20 minutes passed without anyone taking our order. When we finally approached a waitress, she curtly mentioned that our table wasn’t in her area, which was quite irritating. With no proactive service or follow-up in sight, we eventually left after waiting in vain. Overall, it was a disappointing afternoon that did not match the café's famed status.

The cafe had really nice ambiance. It was really cozy. The staffs were very friendly. The food is also fantastic. The tea and cake taste amazing. The price is very reasonable too. Definitely worth going to.

Cosy, family-friendly place for breakfast. We stayed just around the corner with our family of 2 adults and 2 small children. We had breakfast once at Kostbar and our six year old insisted we go back another day as well. Nice breakfast menu, several decent options. Food is well-prepared. Service is friendly. The coffee was really good.

We sought refuge from a rainy weekday morning at Cafe Kostbar, and was delighted by their delicious Crêpes. We've ordered a cheesecake to share as well; the cheesecake is rich and tasty, however the base is too thick for my liking. I enjoyed my cappuccino very much, but the same cannot be said for my wife's hot chocolate (bland, watery). The service staff was cheerful, attentive and great. There's ample seating available at our time of visit and the atmosphere at the cafe is nice.

For a small restaurant in schanzenviertel I like this place. The location and atmosphere are great as well as the service. The music is nice, Simple decoration. Food prices are so reasonable for Hamburg. Highly recommended place to visit.

Just a normal cafe, nothing special. It's too overcrowded, small space around us to move and sit. The staff is very friendly but food was taking too long (around 35 minutes). My friend was not happy with her food (English breakfast) because it's too plain with an overpriced. Should be cheaper since they are not that awesome.

Probably the best cafe we know in Hamburg. Living next street, this is our go to place for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon take away coffee. We immediately became regular customers. The place is lovely and has a very cosy / authentic atmosphere. Staff is friendly and fast, paninis and cakes are home made and delicious. Try the Toscanishe Apfel Torte, our new favourite. Prices are fair too. It really is the neighbourhood cafe everyone wishes for.

Very nice atmospheric coffee bar with a bit of italian accent. The sitting area is very well set up, also a lot of places outside for warmer days. They have some breakfast options, omelette - really very delicious, panini with different toppings, cakes and bakery. You can also have a brunch with a glass of bubbly or even come in the evening for aperol spritz or moscow mule-pretty handy for a cafe next door!

Well, the place itself was really good. Staff was also really kind and quick when serving. However, cannot say the same about the content of food and especially coffee. Our expectations from an “espresso bar” were so much higher, but it was only bitter in taste. And in the menu, you cannot see the contents of breakfast, which is a big minus in our view.

I had the usual latte with soy milk here. The service was fast and lovely even if there was a long queue. This place was super busy so had it takeaway instead. Surprised that they even had glutenfree sweets!

This Espresso House definitely fills up fast, and the queue for coffee can be long most of the time. That said, I’d still go again because it’s super convenient, right in the heart of the city. The ground floor can get noisy, but the upstairs seating is much quieter and actually a good spot to get some work done.

The staff is very rude, and talking each other ignoring the customers to order at the cashier, the girls where just playing around, I had to repeat my order 3 times and then she charged me more because she was just distracted chatting with her work mates. Very bad service! I usually buy my daily coffee there but definitely NOT anymore! I’m not coming again!!

I like this coffee house a lot. The coffee is good and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. They also have lots of good food and drinks. It’s my to go to when I don’t want to think where from I will get my next coffee 🙂 and not only this branch, but most of them in the city are good.

A very nice place. The service was 10/10 and the spaces were really pleasant. The only thing was that the bathrooms were a little dirty, but the service and the café products were very good.

I ordered a hot chocolate and a muffin. The barista was very polite and complimented me. It was very nice. The place is cozy, they play nice Christmas music. I liked it very much. We wanted a proper specialty coffee place for breakfast and after a quick search I found Good One Café. It was a bit out of the way but worth the way! The service staff is suuper nice and the order came very fast! We got 2 coffees and a açai bowl to share (the portion is so big that sharing was a good idea!). Inside there is a big space with tables and they also sell some special beans coming from around Europe (if I remember correctly). There are some pastries/cakes on the counter too! The coffee was delicious and the food as well! Super happy to have chosen this place!

The cafe itself is very nice, and is designed in a minimalistic style. The lady who served us was also very friendly. However, I can’t give a good review for the food. I ordered an iced latte, but as you can see, it was not really presentable. The taste was also very disappointing, it was one of the worst coffees I’ve ever had in a café, tasting like watery coffee one gets on driveways. The carrot cake was also really bad: not spongy but dense, overly sweet, and tasting very different from any carrot cake I’ve had before. Maybe it was some kind of fusion, but they didn’t mention it. The texture wasn’t nice either. My friend ordered a matcha cake and she wasn’t happy with it at all, we both left our cakes half-eaten

Rocked up here yesterday (on a Sunday) and it was absolutely packed. There was no chance of getting a table without a booking. We grabbed something for takeaway instead and honestly. The coffee was so good we came straight back today to have some brekkie. During the week you can just stroll in without a reservation, no stress at all. Btw, We have had our little Chili 🐕 with us, he loves chilled music and a good vibe and he did enjoy the good one. Hot tip: the sweets are next-level amazing. Seriously, do yourself a favour and grab some 🤤

I had the Matcha Latte, and it was easily amongst the best I've had. It's small but perfect. So friendly, a polar opposite to my experience at Homely. Go here for your coffee. Nina was so friendly, took so much care, and made the drink and was so welcoming. It's hard to find great staff, but she is a fine example of great service. If I lived in Central Hamburg, this would be my GO TO SPOT. I would post a picture but I sipped it and then it was gone before I even thought of taking one. And that to me is what great things do. So I have posted a pic of my empty glass 🤣 The chocolate croissant was also exceptional. And I could hear other guests very pleased for their cheesecake.

I visited blanco to get some ground coffee. I declined choosing the one from Guatemala which was an excellent choise, they even ground the coffee specifically for my french press, very customized service. However, I also had a hot chocolate to take away that was, unfortunately, not texturized, I think it was just warm milk with a regular cacao powder. Not bad at all but a bit disappointing. After all, it was a good experience and the ground coffee is also great. I might come back to get a cappuccino and taste the speciality next time.

Small, quaint, and very good coffee. In our quest to find Hamburg‘s best coffee, blanco coffee is among the top five (and we have tried more than forty coffee places now). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, will explain any and all details about the coffee, and answer any questions. blanco coffee also serves cakes and bakery products, which look delicious, but we didn’t try. In the back of the café there is a small seating area with five seats. There are a couple more seats in front of the cash register, and some on the outside. We loved the experience and the coffees and we will absolutely come back.

Probably best coffee spot in Hamburg. I really love it here so I must came back during my trip more than once! I had flat white and it was one of the best I ever had. Whats more each day there was really polite barista, especially the first day when we met there barista from our country 🇨🇿! And about the place: it’s really small here but there are some tables inside and even outside👌🏻

After touring the city on bikes, we stopped here for some refreshments and we weren’t disappointed. The dark chocolate mocha was really tasty and the mango cheesecake was just perfect. The atmosphere is very calm and the staff are really friendly

When ordering a small cappuccino you still get a larger big one. So due to lot of milk it could be a bit stronger. Goot atmosphere, 80's music and comfy chairs.

Ordered a Caffe latte, and recived it in a dirty cup. I then asked if it would be possible to get my coffe in a clean cup, they said "No problem", but yet again recieved it in a dirty cup. Will not be going there again.

While I usually try to avoid coffee shop chains actually this wasn't too bad. The cappuccino with oat milk was surprisingly good and I found the atmosphere to be quite relaxed and not too generic. I stll prefer independent coffeeshop vibes, but would visit again given the high quality coffee.

Relaxed café with very good flat white. Prices are average. There is a self-service. The seats can also be used for work. There is a very casual atmosphere. The café is wheelchair accessible. There is a corner in the back with toys for children.

One of my favourites in Ottensen/ Altona area with such a beautiful lighting! It's got a decent size, located in the center and has amazing flat whites. They also serve Oatly barista which is my favourite brand for plant-based milk as it blends perfectly with coffee. The place can get a little noisy as all the coffee places but has an extremely cute little table in a corner of the cafe which is a little hidden.

The coffe is incredible good! They have vegan milk alternatives, including outly milk barista so the best combination! Also I decided to try the peanut granola bar (vegan/glutenfree) and it was delicious!! I really recommend this place for a coffe and some snack. You would not find a full meal. So if you’re looking for a full breakfast maybe this is not your place but totally worthy to Stop and get you a coffee on this spot! Also the place is really nice for meetings either work or with friends. Free WiFi.

Had the Americano and Carrot cake. Carrot cake was really good, i'd give 3.5-4stars to that. Taste of coffee was also good. Americano i ordered, was large but i found the amount of large americano less, may be it looked medium. As in USA a large americano would really mean large americano ☕

Not many options for a dessert but the one we tried was amazingly fresh and light. Coffee was great too. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.
