Cafe
Restaurant
Café Central, located in the Palais Ferstel complex, is a renowned Viennese venue with a rich historical legacy. Frequented by influential figures such as Freud and Trotsky, this café was a hub for literary and political discussions. Since its establishment in 1876, it has retained its late Romantic Historicism style despite post-WW2 renovations.
We had breakfast at Café Central, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The historic ambiance and elegant architecture make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time — it’s truly one of Vienna’s most beautiful cafés. The breakfast was outstanding — fresh pastries, perfectly brewed coffee, and a variety of delicious options beautifully presented. The service was attentive and friendly, despite how busy the café gets. It’s easy to see why Café Central is such a Viennese institution — a perfect mix of charm, history, and great food. Definitely worth the wait and a must-do when in Vienna!
Asif A — Google review
Café Central is one of Vienna’s most iconic coffee houses, located inside the grand Palais Ferstel on Herrengasse. Stepping inside feels like entering another era—ornate columns, vaulted ceilings, and marble interiors capture the charm of 19th-century Vienna. This café wasn’t just about coffee; it was once the meeting place for some of Europe’s greatest minds. Regulars included Sigmund Freud, Leon Trotsky, Stefan Zweig, and even Adolf Loos. You can almost feel that intellectual energy still lingering in the air. It is open from Monday–Saturday from 08:00 – 21:00 and Sunday/public holidays from 10:00 – 21:00. The nearest metro station is the U-Bahn “Herrengasse” (U3) and it’s a short walk from major sights in the first district. Reservations are accepted online for up to 6 people (via their website). Larger groups need to call in. Walk-ins are possible but during busy times expect a wait. Service is professional but can be slow, especially during peak hours. Some standout dishes: the famous Apfelstrudel, Kaiser-Schmarrn, Backhendl mit Erdäpfel-Gurkensalat and classic Viennese coffee like a Wiener Melange. Prices are a bit steep compared to local cafés. Still, the experience is absolutely worth it for the atmosphere and history.
TheMindisCurious — Google review
Beautiful, beautiful cafe! But do yourself a favor and set a reservation. The line out the door, waiting for tables, was wild—with a reservation, we walked right on by! We had the einspänner, melange, apple strudel, and the warm chocolate cake. The cake was a must get! My apple strudel came out a bit cold. Wasn’t my favorite. I did see someone get the kaiserschmarrn and if I could do it over, I would 1000% get that!! Our server was lovely and attentive. It was a bit expensive, definitely cheaper cafe’s all over Vienna. But… this is obviously for tourists. So you should know what you are walking into!
Olivia H — Google review
Beautiful interior, very cozy place to sit down and relax over a nice cup of coffee and dessert. The Espresso served with whipped cream was excellent and very smooth. The apple strudel was one of the best I've eaten thus far. A thin crispy layer of pastry with plenty of apples, a bit of sourness combined with the sweetness of the cream, just melts in your mouth. The service was also excellent - staff very friendly and cheerful. I arrived at roughly 10AM, and only waited for roughly five minutes before being seated, but the queue might be longer closer to noon. Definitely worth the wait if not in a rush.
Eric H — Google review
I visited because it's said to be one of Vienna's top three Sachertorte. There was a long line in front of the store, but I got it to go and went right away. The staff greeted me with warm smiles and kindness, which made me feel very welcome. I had it with coffee, and while it was a bit too sweet for my taste, it was perfect for a day like today when I'm tired and need a sugar boost.
MinKyung L — Google review
I went for breakfast, and there was already a long queue outside — definitely book ahead if you don’t want to wait in the cold. The desserts are the highlight for sure: beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. The rest of the food was decent, but quite simple for the price, and you’re mostly paying for the experience rather than an exceptional meal. That said, the architecture is stunning. The high ceilings, arches, and overall interior make you feel like you’re sitting inside a historical postcard. Worth visiting at least once for the atmosphere and pastries, just go in knowing it’s more about the setting than the food.
Bianca L — Google review
Iconic venue in Central Vienna. Beautiful building inside and out. A short wait to get in (about 10 mins), but worth it. We ordered coffee, the amazing strudel with vanilla sauce and a slice of cream Schnitten. The waiter was really funny, professional and helpful. The atmosphere is fantastic, and has the 1800s feel to it. All the staff wear period clothing. Lovely experience. We visited around 11am on Thursday. The place looks amazing at night too.
Alex P — Google review
Overall experience was nice. The building and interior is very beautiful for sure and has its historic charm. Apple strudel we had was very beautiful and tasty. However we didn’t have a reservation and ended up in a line for more than 30min (beginning of November, weekday afternoon). After having seats, the atmosphere was a bit fussy and rushed due to the high demand and I wanted to quickly eat and leave. I was very curious about their apple strudel because I have heard they had the best one in Vienna. And it was good, but it’s overestimated as most cafes in the city have equally good strudels. Overall, I’m not sure if it’s worth standing in the long line and sitting in a busy atmosphere.

Cafe

Coffee shop
Café Landtmann is a renowned Vienna café and restaurant located near several city attractions. The interior features a series of interconnected rooms with cozy seating options, creating a bustling and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The café has been frequented by famous figures such as Sigmund Freud, Marlene Dietrich, Romy Schneider, Paul McCartney, and Hillary Clinton. It offers sophisticated desserts in an opulent setting adorned with wood-paneled walls and old-fashioned lights.
It is recommended to make an reservation online as there are many people queuing! Vienna’s coffeehouses are known as the city’s elegant living rooms, where time flows slowly and conversations flourish. Beloved by writers, artists, and intellectuals, these cafés offer a refined space for reflection and dialogue. A cup of Wiener Melange, the city’s signature coffee blend of espresso and frothy milk, perfectly embodies this graceful tradition of culture, comfort, and contemplation.

Café Landtmann is a beautiful spot in the heart of Vienna, known for its elegant, traditional Austrian interior. The atmosphere feels timeless and charming, making it a perfect place to relax and soak in Viennese café culture. Their coffee and cakes are exceptional — especially the classic tortes — which explains why both locals and tourists love coming here. It’s not just a café, it’s a piece of Vienna’s history.

A true Viennese classic! Café Landtmann is a real Viennese institution – and now I understand why! We tried the sausage selection, the breaded veal, and finally the Kaiserschmarrn – everything was absolutely delicious, both in flavor and presentation. The veal was perfectly tender, and the Kaiserschmarrn came freshly made with a lovely homemade jam. The service was excellent – polite, attentive, and genuinely friendly. A wonderful experience that truly captures the spirit of Vienna. We’ll definitely come back!

Good one for Breakfast with a lovely outdoor seating set-up as well. We sat inside though due to the cold weather in early November. Tried Melange coffee which is the authentic vienesse coffee and omlette which was good. Croissant wasn't the best I had in Vienna though. Lot of tourist places to explore nearby after breakfast.
Sunny K — Google review
The Food was really good and fast. But after the first 5min we were completely ignored. We were about to ask for another beer, a desert and more softdrinks. We were a table of 4 and put in a "private" ( more like hidden) room, keept waving for a few minutes but we all gave up and decide to just get up to find a waiter, pay for what we ate and find somewhere else.
Raphael B — Google review
Elegant & refined old school grand cafe. We booked here for lunch after our historical walking tour and it was the perfect spot to relax & absorb all the amazing history we’d just learnt. Firstly the indoor seating area is just beautiful and so elegant and stylish. Secondly the service was excellent- super friendly and welcoming. Thirdly, the food was superb- they have a wonderful all-day menu. Very traditional Austrian food. The sausage plate was utterly delicious, as was the potato salad. The grand finale was the cakes - wow, the glass cake cabinet is lined with one beautiful cake after another. And perfectly paired on a hot summers day with an ice coffee. Perfection. Make sure you book in advance. Highly recommended.
Gustav — Google review
The restaurant was pretty full when I walked in but it was just me so they walked me to my table right away. The servers were efficient and polite. The food came out quite quickly after I ordered it. I had the pumpkin risotto with chicken and that was delicious. I was certainly not going to skip dessert, so I ordered the apple strudel with custard, which was heavenly. The crust is very thin and flaky. The apples were perfectly cooked and the custard was so creamy and light. I bought a Bundt cake to take home and asked for a box which was a little complicated to get because they were technically out of them. But the gentleman who was helping me managed to get me a box which I very much appreciate because otherwise the Bundt cake would’ve turned into a pancake on my 24 hour flight back home. So to that gentleman, thanks again!
Kimberly R — Google review
I’m sure that most of the time, the service is great. However, we went there as a group of five and for some reason “the kitchen confused our order with another table so they thought they have made it already”… We waited for 50 minutes for a breakfast… When we got the food, it was very good, with beautiful esthetics-we enjoyed it. Hopefully it won’t happen next time I visit Vienna 🫡

Cafe
Café Hawelka, a beloved Viennese establishment, has been serving up sweet rolls and coffee since 1939. The café's old-world charm is evident in its dimly lit dining room and bohemian furnishings that have remained largely unchanged over the years. Frequented by artists and writers, including notable figures like Oscar Werner and Andy Warhol, Café Hawelka exudes an atmosphere perfect for leisurely afternoons spent with a good book or newspaper.
This café carries the charm of time — the owner warmly greets every guest. Its Sachertorte is a bit on the dry side compared to Café Sacher’s, but still quite tasty. The Apfelstrudel filling is delicious, somewhat reminiscent of a McDonald’s apple pie. Paired with a cup of Schale Gold, it’s simply wonderful.
Tony L — Google review
Visited as many guide books suggested to enjoy among other best coffee shops in the Vienna historical center. picked up buchteln, a set of rolls filled with hot cherry gem, which did not disappoint. nor disappointed excellent coffee seemed with a small jar of milk and a glass of water. The servers though, mostly middle age+ men dressed in classic servant suits of the past looked very relevant to the venue. What did not feel too relevant was their attitude toward the guests, at least those who did not speak German (I noticed a substantial difference in the way they served in German at the table next to me). Perhaps it came from the times when the server was confident they were more important than the customer, I was not sure. but it did not impress an experienced traveler like myself: we are just in very different times, I.e. the younger generation of those work in Vienna food industry know a lot better how to serve.
Agusto C — Google review
It's not often these days that you see people sitting in a cafe and reading a newspaper. Rarer still, is someone reading a newspaper on a reading stand in a cafe. But such is the atmosphere in Hawelka that this seems natural. The worn out - but stable - wooden chairs, the old school furniture, the dimly lit interiors, all bear testimony to the vintage credentials of Cafe Hawelka. I'll say the food is not out of the world (for instance we've had better apple strudels in much less celebrated shops elsewhere), but certainly serviceable. A visit to this place is recommended.
Dinesh I — Google review
Café Hawelka lets you feel the atmosphere of old Vienna. I tried Wiener Melange for the first time, and it was absolutely delightful! The Sacher Torte was moist and tasty, and the service was impressively fast despite the crowds. It was a bit hot and cramped, but still — it’s definitely a must-visit spot!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A True Viennese Classic with Timeless Charm Café Hawelka is one of those legendary Vienna coffeehouses that feels like stepping back in time — and in all the best ways. We visited as a group of about 10 people during a guided tour around the city, and it turned out to be one of the most pleasant and memorable stops of the day. ⸻ Atmosphere: The café exudes old-world charm, with cozy, dim lighting, vintage furniture, and a lived-in warmth that makes you feel like you’re part of Vienna’s long-standing coffeehouse tradition. You can almost imagine the writers, artists, and thinkers who once gathered here. It’s the kind of place where time slows down — and that’s the point. ⸻ Food & Coffee: The coffee was excellent — rich, smooth, and exactly what you’d hope for in a historic Viennese café. The desserts were equally great, especially the traditional pastries that go perfectly with a warm cup. Everything was served in a laid-back, no-rush manner that felt genuinely authentic. ⸻ Experience: This isn’t just a café — it’s a slice of Viennese history, and our group truly appreciated the ambiance. Even with 10 people, we were able to sit comfortably and enjoy the experience. It’s not flashy or touristy — it’s classic, understated, and full of character. ⸻ Final Thoughts: If you want a break from the polished modern cafés and are looking to connect with the real heart of Vienna, Café Hawelka is a must. Great coffee, delicious pastries, and a timeless setting that’s worth savoring. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the soul of the city.
Brandon B — Google review
The cafe looks so beautiful with its vintage charm and warm coffees that feel like a hug. With watercolour paintings adorning the walls, poems, people having conversation with a newspaper in hand, everything makes it a memorable experience. It has a history of welcoming and inspiring artists and one can see why.
Janaki S — Google review
Such a nice place. The vibes are so chill, cozy and coming from another time. The deserts were tasty but not anything special.

Very nice authentic Viennese cafe, great atmosphere, still owned by the family. Warm and cosy. Also very close at the new Hawelka cafe we had a wonderful experience with Bryan, the barista. He took time and pleasure to discuss coffee with my husband. A great experience. Thank you. Muriel and Stefan.

Cafe
Café Schwarzenberg is a historic and traditional café located on Vienna's famous Ringstrasse. It boasts a charming interior with warm wood panels, heavy damask curtains, and leather upholstered chairs. The café offers a variety of specialty coffees made from FAIRTRADE Arabica beans, as well as classic Viennese breakfast options and delicious cakes. Visitors can enjoy live piano music on select evenings while sipping on their coffee or tea.
Food is out of this world for light and quick lunch or dinner or pleasant long dine in. Service is outstanding. As far as dishes it's self will recommend for soup - liver dumpling soup with beef broth, schwarzenberg sausages with horseradish, mustard and roll. Desert is separate story, after trying many different types of apple strudel - Wien /Vienna strudel (warm /hot) is far the best - moisture, juice, thin.

Charming coffee spot with good service and a cozy atmosphere. The selection of pastries and desserts was inviting, and the cappuccino melange was smooth and flavorful. It’s a lovely place to stop by and recharge during the day. The wooden interior, complemented by elegant chandeliers, gives it a warm and slightly vintage feel. Definitely worth a visit.
Wessam N — Google review
To me it seems a little bit overrated but don’t get me wrong it has great decoration and the food is okay. The wait could be frustrating. I didn’t have to because my friend was there before I arrive but I saw so many people waiting and I think it could take 30 minutes for them to seat.

Nice atmosphere. One of the oldest cafe. Served with nice cutlery. We had breakfast there. Order large breakfast, small breakfast and a egg benedict. Price is on the high side. Good served warm 🫰.

Café Schwarzenberg is a beautiful and historic café with a classic Viennese atmosphere. The coffee and pastries were excellent, and the staff were polite and professional despite being quite busy. During my visit, I did notice a couple of disgruntled customers who had a complaint and were ultimately given their meal for free. As I was leaving, one of them even joked loudly that she’d “try complaining every time” to get free meals, which was a bit surprising. That said, my own experience was very pleasant. The service was attentive, and the quality of food and drink was wonderful. I’d still recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy an authentic Viennese experience.

Badly received! I was with my big kids and a dog yesterday 39th August 2025 between 9:30 and 10 AM, for a breakfast. I asked politely to the server: is the dog allowed ? he gave me a dirty reply “ dog is allowed but not you!’ I could have turned by back and left but I didn’t react , I said so funny way to greet a client. Above all they needed tips . I gave them but not high tips anyway. For sure I will never step in there. Arrogant people. Then only guy smiling was an Indian guy i suppose with a steel bangle. The others no smile , how can they recruit people so arrogant. I can recruit better ones for them!!! It is a shame. 🥵 attitude has to change we are in the 22st century!!!

We had cakes only, they were all delicious, the staff is not very friendly but automatically asks for tip. A place between tradition and tourist attraction. Prices are very high.

Had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely lovely, each dish was a delight, soup was a bit salty. What really made the evening special was our waiter, Mike. He was incredibly polite, kind, and had a great sense of humor. Mike's exceptional service truly enhanced our dining experience. A big thank you to Mike for making our visit so memorable!

Cafe
Café Sperl, a historic coffeehouse dating back to 1880, is a quintessential part of Vienna's cafe culture. It was once a popular hangout for artists, writers, and even royalty until the Nazis intervened during their reign. The cafe is famous for its opulent and timeless ambiance that embodies the Austrian concept of gemutlich - warmth, comfort, and familiarity.
I definitely recommend this place for an authentic Viennese experience. You can enjoy the full-day breakfast or the regular dishes. There are tons of coffee specialties. The atmosphere is delightful and the service is nice. Make sure you check out opening times as they tend to be closed on Sundays during the summer time. Please enjoy the beautiful seating area inside as they have never changed it since the day they opened.

The true Viennese atmosphere is here. For a coffee or a breakfast all day is good. Recommend this place 100%. You have to walk a bit outside the city centre but it’s worth it. Reasonable price and good food. Coffee is very good. Better to book a table, queue is often but it moves quick.
Alex — Google review
Absolutely brilliant experience. I came here from a review to enjoy "classic Vienna cafe experience". And I think I got exactly that! The place was nice, with the furniture and layout feeling very authentic. Around us were local people. Having their morning coffee and reading newspaper. The coffee, pastry and egg sausage were all great. Highly recommend the Sperl chocolate cake! We went there at around 9AM, and no wait time needed however around 30' later there was already a waiting line formed. Highly recommend this place!
Ha V — Google review
Though located slightly further from city center, the price per portion was much better than some of the other cafes. Staff was also very friendly, and gave us the choice of where to sit, instead of immediately deciding for us. The weiner schnitzel was succulent and wasn't too filling, which was great, as it allowed room for a cup of coffee and dessert. The included potato salad is my personal favorite from all the restaurants I've eaten - there isn't as much acidity, and much "smoother" to eat. It's so good that I could eat just the salad as a main dish. The apple strudel was also excellent. Instead of apple chunks, the pie was layered with thin apple slices. The sourness of the apples combined with the whipped cream were a perfect match. Despite my short stay in Vienna, this is definitely my go to place the next time I return.
Eric H — Google review
I really wanted to try one of the traditional cafes in Vienna, and this is the one we chose. It was really nice in the inside, probably with the same decor since when it opened, but it had a lot of charm. The Sperl Torte was really delicious and both coffees were great too. Service was very good and slow, as expected. :-) I can imagine the "slow living" they are famous for.
Ana C — Google review
I’ve been cafe-hopping around Vienna, and Cafe Sperl truly stands out — the food quality here is far more delicious than many other popular spots. Tucked away in a quaint corner, it feels like a hidden gem beloved by locals. I didn’t bump into any other tourists during my visit. The staff are lovely, and the place exudes a peaceful old-world charm and timeless elegance. I wish I lived in Vienna so I could come back more often. Thank you for such a wonderful experience — and as a bonus, it’s one of the filming locations from Before Sunrise, which adds a touch of movie magic to the visit!

Café Prückel is a classic Viennese coffeehouse located in the city center, offering a traditional yet stylish ambiance. The interior boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and mirror panels overlooking the Ringstrasse. Renovated in 1955 by architect Oswald Haerdtl, it combines midcentury charm with original Art Nouveau details. Established in the early 1900s, it exudes a 50s flair after a subsequent refurbishment.
The food was delicious and beautifully served! Our order came very fast and our waiter was very nice. Recommend 100% to anyone who wants a delicious schnitzel. There’s also vegetarian options that were delicious too.

A great place when staying close to city centre: quick service and tasty food made my day and day of my colleagues. The time was after 17, still not overcrowded but better to book upfront when considering to stay there for the later dinner as most of the tables were booked. Thanks to waiters!

One of the famous cafes in Vienna This place is awesome, big enough for you not to wait to get in, The food is absolutely delicious. We took the classic Viennese breakfast and bacon & eggs WOW! super tasty, really recommend! You should visit there when you gonna be in Vienna.

The apple strudel is out of this world! The layers of apple and thin crust are baked to perfection. The plum dumpling an absolute delicious and well worth the 15 minute wait. The café is large but bustling and full. Clearly well loved by the public. We learnt about the café from a friend who used to frequent the café. Very grateful for the recommendation.

Lovely coffee house, a unique mix of old school furniture and flair combined with light filled rooms with high ceilings, lovely vibe. Ample outside seating as well, inside you can also find the numerous newspapers to browse. Super nice Topfenstrudel, very Topfen forward. Coffee is available in decaf as well, and waiters are quite quick and friendly, some more than others but I felt well cared for. I also liked the cups and plates in Prückel design.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A Perfect Introduction to Vienna’s Coffeehouse Culture Café Prückel was the first stop on a coffeehouse tour my friends and I took through Vienna with a local guide — and what an introduction it was. Located right in the heart of the city, this café delivered the perfect mix of charm, history, and warm hospitality that defines the traditional Viennese coffeehouse experience. ⸻ Atmosphere: Café Prückel has a classic, old-school charm that immediately sets the tone. From the vintage décor to the elegant lighting and cozy seating, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and take it all in. It’s easy to see why locals and travelers alike keep coming back. ⸻ Coffee & Sweets: This was my first real Viennese coffeehouse experience, and it absolutely set the bar high. The coffee was excellent, rich and smooth, served in true traditional style. We also tried a selection of pastries and sweets, which were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. ⸻ Experience: What made the visit even more enjoyable was the laid-back, unhurried vibe. Despite being a popular spot, it never felt rushed or overly touristy. It was simply a genuinely pleasant experience — a great way to ease into the day and soak in a bit of Viennese culture. ⸻ Final Thoughts: If you’re new to Vienna’s café scene, Café Prückel is a fantastic starting point. It’s elegant but approachable, traditional yet welcoming — and it set the perfect tone for the rest of our coffeehouse tour. Highly recommended for first-timers and coffee lovers alike.

Cafe
Café Sacher Wien is a quintessential Austrian café located in the heart of Vienna, offering a typical Viennese coffee-house atmosphere and the opportunity to indulge in an Original Sacher-Torte. The café boasts a rich history, situated near Vienna's opulent opera house and adorned with elegant décor. Its signature dessert, the Sacher Torte, is a decadent dark-chocolate cake with a layer of tangy apricot jam, served with whipped cream.
Visiting Café Sacher in Munich was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the elegant, classic atmosphere—it feels truly special. I had their famous Sacher-Torte, and it was absolutely divine: rich, perfectly moist chocolate cake with a smooth layer of apricot jam. The coffee complemented it beautifully, and every detail, from the presentation to the service, felt top-notch. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. This isn’t just a café; it’s a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates fine desserts, quality coffee, and a touch of luxury. I can’t wait to return!
Webman T — Google review
This café is for you if you enjoy a condescending and inattentive service, albeit in a nice historical setting. There is often a long queue outside, however when we were sat upstairs, the floor was half-empty. Perhaps this is to create a sense of exclusivity or the service is simply lacking efficiency (as highlighted in other reviews). We came here for a meal and the cake. The server made it his mission to make this experience as awkward as possible. To start, he came across as quite rude and condescending. He proceeded to knock over one of our glasses, without apologising or cleaning up the contents on the table. The attention to detail was poor, as he forgot to bring the spoons for the soup, and the butter for the breads (we never got the butter). This is despite multiple reminders. Apart from that, the main attraction - Sachertorte - was nothing more than an average chocolate cake. We have had it plenty of times before in Salzburg and simply wanted to try it in the original location. Overall, I am aware that this review won’t stop tourists from visiting the café, but it would be a shame if their experience is tarnished by the same level of service we received. Hopefully they are able to make some much needed improvements to match the more pleasant experience we received in Sacher Salzburg Café, which would be fitting of this historical establishment.

Well I enjoyed it. I just went for the experience and a very nice afternoon hot chocolate and the famous Sacher Torte, which was everything I expected. There was a bit of a queue on a cold afternoon but hey, it's in all the guidebooks so it's going to be busy. Service was pleasant, quick and polite. To those who have given poor reviews I would say get over yourselves! The place is famous and will serve what has done it well for many years, so enjoy it for what it is.
Nick P — Google review
The place was stunning, but the waiter lady not so much. I mean, I don’t know what she expected us to order, but she looked at us like “omg just this?” Just because we didn’t all get something to drink and eat each of us. Not nice at all. Stop looking at people like they’re weird just because they have different opinions or make different choices! Anyway the food was okay but I’m not a fan of Sachertorte.
Melania D — Google review
Beautiful and classic atmosphere, with that traditional Viennese charm. The Sacher Torte is truly delicious and worth its reputation. However, my experience was affected by the attitude of one of the waiters. He slightly raised his voice and acted with a certain arrogance, as if placing himself above the guests, even while remaining outwardly calm. This small detail disturbed my peace during the visit and ended up ruining what could have been an excellent experience. In short: great dessert, pleasant setting, but the arrogance of the staff, especially this particular waiter, made the visit less enjoyable than expected.
Hilton V — Google review
We didn't stay. We went early evening after a bus tour, minimal queue, though the place was busy upstairs and down. The young lady who seated us was smiley and friendly. We had literally sat for 2 minutes when a male server asked if we were ready to order and before we had a chance he just said, 'no, not ready' and strode off. We were hoping to stay for dinner, looked at the menu for main meal ... but no vegetarian 😕 We asked the same server if there was a vegetarian menu. We were abruptly told, 'the menu you have is it.' And again he strode off, like we were an inconvenience or stupid for asking. We sat for another 5-10 minutes being ignored, wanting to ask if at least an omelette would be OK at this time of day. No friendly face came our way. It was then we left, we pointed out the server, to another and asked their name. The name of the male server was Michael. This person should not work in a customer service environment. He needs reminding that the customers who come pay his wages. He is not above any person who walks through those doors. Good customer service in a place of high reputation is key. We found a lovely Austrian Cafe not far away, with vegetarian options and live music, where the servers all smiled and nothing was too much trouble.

I visited with my baby. There was a space for the stroller, and they even had the same Stokke high chair we use at home, so my baby seemed really comfortable. He actually fell asleep in the chair. The café had such a lovely vibe, and the apple strudel was much better than the ones I’ve tried elsewhere. What really made the visit special, though, was the server with curly blonde hair. She had the warmest smile, and her positive energy just brightened the café. I left a little extra tip and got a small gift in return. which was such a lovely surprise. She truly matched the café! beautiful, sweet, and kind.

Demel is a historic Viennese pastry shop and chocolaterie that has been serving delectable treats since 1786. Located near the Hofburg palace, this elegant salon offers a charming ambiance with a shady terrace. The interior boasts spacious lounges where you can indulge in specialties like cream cakes, scones, and strudels. One of their must-try dishes is the Kaiserschmarrn, caramelized Austrian pancakes served with plum compote.
Went to the cafe and just wanted to say Elke was such an amazing and cheerful staff. From the moment she sat us down all the way till we left, and even to other customers around us too. She made our experience at the cafe better than we expected. Staff were super friendly, the food and atmosphere were great. Eating here made our experience in Vienna more memorable! Many thanks to Elke and the other amazing staff and chefs!

Huge line to seat in the cafe so I just got the Kaiserschmarrn for take away. It was super delicious and one of the best sweets I’ve had in Vienna. It’s a bit expensive but I think it worth it to try it when you are in Vienna. The store is also very beautiful itself and you can buy souvenirs. 💯 Great experience

The place looks really nice with a charming, antique atmosphere. We were lucky to arrive about 30 minutes before opening, as a queue started forming very quickly! Through the window, you can even watch the chef preparing Austrian pancakes, which adds a lovely authentic touch. The service was simple and fast, which we really appreciated. We ordered the Sacher and Kaiserschmarrn. The Sacher was excellent — when it arrived, I expected it to be dry or the chocolate too hard, but it was quite the opposite: moist cake and soft, rich chocolate. The Kaiserschmarrn were also very tasty, with hot and delicious plum jam on the side. To drink, we had a cappuccino, which had a nice, rich coffee flavor and perfectly frothy milk. Overall, it was a great experience — delicious food, cozy ambiance, and quick service. I would definitely recommend this place! ☕🍰

Stopped for a slice of their Sacher torte on my birthday last week while on my first-ever visit to Vienna. The place is gorgeous! You can smell the buttery vanilla Kaiserschmarrn right as you walk in and it just makes you all the more excited. The servers were really sweet. I asked for a little candle on my cake. They immediately congratulated me and along came my slice of Sacher torte with a lit candle on top. They knew I was going to take photos so they offered to come back and light the candle again if I needed them to. The Sacher was, of course, delicious! Coffee was good. My friend ordered the Kaiserschmarrn and it was lovely! We had a very good experience! Made my birthday feel special and I appreciate that very much 😊

Pricey but an experience. A short wait as seats with multiple floors. Anna cake was good but tasted like normal chocolate cake. Hot chocolate was indulgent and chocolatey. The pancakes were fluffy although not very hot or warm and didn’t have enough plum sauce to go with it Waitress was friendly and smiley. Toilets available.

I visited because it was said to be one of Vienna's three best Sachertorte. I got it to go and had it with coffee. It was delicious, just the right amount of sweetness for me, especially when I was tired and needed a sugar boost.

Demel’s Kaiserschmarrn is famous for its fluffy texture and caramelized sweetness. Once beloved by Emperor Franz Joseph, this imperial pancake served with powdered sugar and fruit compote embodies the elegance and charm of Viennese café culture. It is recommended to make a reservation. There was already a long queue at 10 am that day. The email address on the website is invalid.

Café Demel is like stepping straight into Vienna’s sweet history! This legendary café has been around for centuries and still feels as elegant and charming as ever. The interior is a mix of classic Viennese style and timeless luxury, making it the perfect spot to enjoy coffee and some of the best pastries in the city. One of my favorite parts? The shop section – where you can pick up chocolates, cakes, and all kinds of beautifully packaged treats to take home (or just eat on the way!). Everything feels special here – from the craftsmanship of the desserts to the atmosphere that blends tradition with a hint of royal charm. Yes, it can be busy, but that’s part of the experience – it’s Demel after all. If you want to taste a piece of Vienna’s sweet heritage, this is the place.

Nestled near the Altes AKH and University of Vienna, Coffee Pirates is a cozy wooden coffee shop offering homemade cakes and their own roasted coffee. The spacious interior includes communal tables and comfortable couches for lounging with a book. It's popular during peak study times but maintains a welcoming atmosphere.
This coffee shop is a perfect place for you if you’re looking for a place to sit and work with your laptop. The prices are very reasonable. I ordered cappuccino and chocolate cake. I really like their coffee order the cake is just ok. The atmosphere is nice, but it can be a little cramped during the busy hours as it is located very close to MedUni of Wien.

CoffeePirates is a true gem in Vienna’s specialty coffee scene. Unlike the traditional historic cafés, this place offers a modern, relaxed, and creative vibe that makes it perfect for coffee lovers looking for something unique. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with plenty of seating and a laid-back energy that invites you to stay longer. The baristas are highly skilled and passionate, and they prepare each cup with precision and care. Their espresso is rich and full-bodied, while the filter coffee brings out delicate flavors that reflect the quality of the beans they use. CoffeePirates also offers a great selection of pastries and light snacks, making it a wonderful spot for breakfast or an afternoon break. Whether you are a coffee connoisseur or just someone who enjoys a perfectly brewed cup, this café is an absolute must-visit in Vienna.

No heating in the winters and for some reason they keep opening the doors, so if you're interested in losing toes to frostbite - this is the place for you. If you do come here, pray you won't have to use the bathrooms: the toilet flush doesn't work and the sink also lacks water, so the whole bathroom experience is a 0/10. Plus the wi-fi has gotten really slow recently, so working on a laptop is challenging. All of this is a huge shame, because the food and drinks are actually pretty good (although a bit expensive) and the staff is quite nice too.

Café Diglas, located at Wollzeile 10 in Vienna, is a long-established venue that offers a variety of breakfast options, cakes, and a daily-changing menu. The café's decor dates back to 1934 and retains some prewar Vienna accessories. It has a strong association with composer Franz Lehar and serves traditional Austrian cuisine alongside run-of-the-mill caffeine fixes and liqueur-enriched concoctions like the Biedermeier.
We came across this place by chance after the other restaurant (which my wife recommended) was full, but we don't regret it at all. They accommodated us without a reservation. The goulash soup was very tasty. I recommend it to everyone. The schnitzel (original Viennese) was also good. However, I don't think its price is justified.

Food was great! We got what seemed like a simple soup but it was somehow incredible. Hummus plate was also delicious and all the desserts looked great! Service wasn’t the best (walked in and no one would seat us for an awkward amount of time..) but the location (right next to St Stephen’s) was perfect and was a great stop between tours!

Café Diglas was recommended to us by a Vienna resident. After we checked into our hotel, we found out the cafe was only a block away. When we arrived at 4:00, we were seated immediately. My wife ordered the beef goulash, and I ordered the pork schnitzel. I was impressed by the large serving of schnitzel I received. The crust was the best that I’ve ever tasted. The pork meat could be cut with a fork. A delicious bowl of potato salad was included. My wife’s goulash had tender pot roast and boiled potatoes. It too was excellent. In three days, we’ve gone to Café Diglas three times, and I’ve ordered wiener pork schnitzel every time. My wife has tried three different meals, and each one was superb. One night we returned for dessert, and the apple strudel was A+ Highly Recommended! 😊

Typical old Viennese Café! I can especially recommend their sweet dishes, e.g. the Scheiterhaufen- very hard to find anywhere else in Vienna. Definitely a dish for someone with a sweet tooth.
Antonia N — Google review
Came here in February, so I’m a bit late writing this, but the experience stuck with me enough that I feel it deserves a mention. I ordered a Vienna schnitzel, Sachertorte, and a beer. the food was really good, although on the pricier side (around €40, or $70 AUD, paying with my Australian debit card). Service was also good… until the end. When I asked to pay, the waiter (a tanned, Italian-looking guy) emphasised that tips are not included. He then proceeded to enter a higher amount on the card machine around— €43 instead of €40 — and asked, “Is this ok?” I questioned it, saying “It was 40, not 43,” and he replied with “No tip?” to my face. I was stunned. It felt like a money grab, and I firmly replied “No tip,” shaking my head. He then gave me the dirtiest look as I paid and walked out, until I said “thank you, have a good night,” and suddenly he flipped to being smiley and friendly again. The frustrating thing is, I actually considered tipping because the food and service were good up until that point. But being pressured like that completely ruined the experience. Really unfortunate, because the meal itself was fantastic, and it looks very nice inside.

They had some nice summer specials that were just right for hot weather- different salads. The fruit drinks were good and not too sweet. The service was good but slow- it took me time to get something I needed from time to time. But they are friendly and willing to serve. The apple strudel was good. It was worth getting. I have had better but definitely it was good. The whipped cream is not real whipped cream but it tasted good. I also like that the restaurant is at street level as that was convenient with my special needs son. The walls have posters of current and past things going on in the city. It is fun to look around and see them and see what this city puts together for entertainment.

Came here for the Apple Strudel, reach about 7.30pm. Still has few tables available, no waiting is required. The Goulash soup is nice. Apple strudel filling is fabulous but the sweetness level is slightly at the over sweet (as I prefer less sweet). One thing I recommend the restaurant is to install some fan to keep the air circulated or switch on the air conditioner, as we are sweating & most other customers also fan for air. Waiter told me tips is a must for this restaurant.

It’s a good place overall: the food was tasty and the schnitzel was really good: crispy and with a thin batter. That said, it’s a bit pricier than average. They seem to target tourists by automatically adding a 10% tip, and even tap water costs €0.80. Because of those things, it doesn’t feel like a great place to me. But if you don’t mind the extra charges, the food itself is definitely tasty!

We took part in a guided tour and our guide Michael recommended this place and because he was born in Vienna and obviouslyhas lived here so we followed his advice. Kaffee Alt Wien certainly delivers on the authentic, old-school Viennese coffee house atmosphere—the setting is the best part of the experience. We were seated immediately and the server was pleasant, though not particularly warm. I ordered the Schnitzel to try the local fare. The preparation was technically correct (the coating separated, indicating hot oil), but the dish itself was unfortunately not that good and felt quite average. Given the quality of the meal, it's not cheap here. For the price point and overall value, I won’t be coming back again. Come only if the historic, non-touristy atmosphere is your main priority.

The 2 girls who worked today were extra kind. Thank you for the wounderful espresso and your hospitality.

Great little coffee shop with a warm atmosphere, lovely staff and amazing coffee. The oat cappuccinos were perfect and the vegan cookie was delicious too. Would definitely recommend!!

Stumbled into Kaffemik and was greeted by an Australian barista so friendly I briefly considered inviting him to my wedding (no date set, but still). The vibe? So chill I thought I accidentally walked into a Scandinavian meditation retreat — minus the chanting, plus really good V60. The coffee was so good I came back a second time, which, for me, is basically commitment. If I come a third time, I expect a loyalty ring. Only reason it’s not 5 stars? Because I need some mystery in my life, and perfection scares me. But seriously, great brew, relaxed space, and an Aussie accent that makes even “flat white” sound exotic. Would recommend if you like quality coffee, low-key vibes, and being greeted like a long-lost mate. 🇦🇺☕✨

Café Jelinek is a charming and cozy spot in Vienna, offering a true Viennese coffeehouse experience. Established in 1910 by a Jewish family, it has retained its old-timey feel with patine-stained walls adorned with pictures of famous faces and well-worn wooden floors. The café's decor remains unchanged since the 80s, exuding an authentic shabby chic ambiance.
I love this spot! If you go on a beautiful day, please sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and wonderful atmosphere. We ordered the Schinken-Käseomelette mit 3 Eiern. The food is delicious, and my coffee was excellent. Would definitley come when I have the chance.

A very nice, typical Vienna cafe with a pleasant atmosphere. If you want to have a quick coffee or enjoy breakfast its a place you should go.
Alexander_Germany — Google review
A friend of mine from Vienna recently took me here for a coffee and we couldn't help ourselves when we saw their showcase of cakes 😍 We got Tiramisu-Gugelhupf (they give 2 pieces each!!) and couldn't have chosen better! The atmosphere was also wonderful because they have a beautiful interior and to my surprise the service was very nice - and in Vienna sometimes you can really be surprised (if you know what I mean haha). Plus, if you also want to taste something typically Viennese then take Melange - a little weaker coffee but very good because it has more milk ✨☕️🇦🇹 Hopefully will be back in the near future!
Karolina P — Google review
Very original place. Looks authentic and interesting. Food is good as well. Maybe a bit pricey, especially the charge of 1.60€ for ketchup or mayo. Coffee was great.
Kris T — Google review
A really charming spot with the feel of a typical Viennese café. The atmosphere is cozy and has its own character, which makes it worth a visit. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by a few things: the prices are quite high (a simple Melange costs over 5 EUR!!!), and dogs from other guests are allowed to roam freely through the garden. They bark loudly and disturb the otherwise pleasant setting. With some adjustments, this could be a truly wonderful place.
Janina R — Google review
I really liked the omelette I had + my coffee. They have a large variety of options, including vegetarian ones. The environment and decorations are very beautiful with an old feeling to it. It gets quite busy and there was a long wait line, if you don’t make reservations ahead of time.

Stopped into Cafe Jelinek for some Apple strudel. The staff were friendly and polite. The cafe itself feels very authentic and was comfortable. I had the strudel with a pot of green tea and it cost around €12. So while not a cheap spot, I enjoyed being able to relax in a cosy atmosphere with my book my strudel and my semi hot tea.

Had a very tasty and calm breakfast here. Waiter was very attentive and patient and there was no problem with strange requests ( I asked to make sure that food is edible without using fork and knife, since I had an injured arm in a sling). Great food and wonderful atmosphere.

Good coffee and good bakes. The vibe is nice. The hot chocolate is very bad. More like a milk with a hint of chocolate.
Anish D — Google review
This cafe seems to be a well oiled machine. They're making complex drinks during peak times with serious precision. The pastry case was stocked with a good variety of delicious looking treats. I just popped in for takeaway coffees though. Their batch brew and cold brew were good. Reasonably priced these days. I didn't really have an interaction with the staff a part from saying my drink order, which is why I'm not sure I can give 5 stars for service. The atmosphere seemed buzzing as most tables were full. People were eating, drinking and chatting away. Overall nice vibe. Great drink offerings.

The latte and cappuccino are excellent! With pleasant floral and chocolate notes, without bitterness. The pastries are super, the Choko Babka is very juicy. I am not a fan of pastries, but didn’t regret that I took it. Highly recommend this place 🖤

Excellent cafe and it matches the reputation! Safe are great and the bean selection was exactly what you want for drip coffee.

Balthasar became less a café for us and more a daily pilgrimage site during our week in Vienna. There were four of us, the best of friends, technically in town for a conference, but in reality attending a symposium on “Why Conference Coffee Is an International Tragedy.” The conclusion of our study: abandon ship and head to Balthasar. Every morning, like clockwork, we ordered filter coffee that was so smooth and rich it made the watery brown liquid at the convention center feel like it came from a puddle outside. By day three we weren’t even pretending to try the conference brew anymore—straight to Balthasar we marched, our lanyards flapping with purpose. And then there were the raspberry chocolate cookies. "Cookies" feels like too small a word. These were not baked goods; they were spiritual encounters. Transcendent, glorious discs of joy that could probably settle international disputes if served at peace talks. By the end of the week, the baristas knew us, the chairs molded to our shape, and Balthasar had become the unofficial headquarters of our delegation. Five stars. Stronger than any keynote speaker: their filter coffee and raspberry chocolate cookies.

Randomly came across this café, such a nice vibe and lovely environment. I think this is the best latte I’ve had in Vienna so far! The froth was super smooth and the flavour was just perfect. I really enjoyed the espresso base in the latte — well-balanced!

Cafe Comet is a lovely spot that seems to appeal mostly to people around their mid-40s and younger. The coffee is fresh and flavorful, with a nice variety of options. I had the chance to try their cheesecake, which was also very fresh and delicious. The decoration gives off a cozy student-café vibe, and the warm atmosphere inside really complements it. The fact that it’s open on Sundays is another big plus.

Café Museum is a smart café that has gained popularity for its original 1930s design, featuring semi-circled boxes, red velvet upholstery, and retro-style mirrored globes. The café's minimalist interior by Adolf Loos attracted artists like Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele in Fin-de-Siècle Vienna. It offers a spacious area with a quiet separate room for business discussions.
Wow! This restaurant was a wonderful experience—the food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The menu had great variety with creative and authentic options to suit different tastes. Service was impressively fast, attentive, and very friendly, which made the meal even better. Very nice restaurant and cozy. The egg benedicts were good, however the scrambled eggs were too oily. If your a big fan of coffee and looking for a cafe americano this will not make you fill your stomach you have to order at least another one. Apple struddle was 10/10.

The cappuccino is really good, with creamy milk foam that's rich and slightly sweet. Also, The Kaiserschmarren is sweet but not excessively so, fluffy, and perfectly matched with honey sauce—and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Though slightly pricey, it’s well worth a visit.

Cafe Museum is a very good choice during our Vienna trip. It is located at a very central area, where we can easily combine with our touring agenda (National Opera, Karlskirche). The place itself seems very gorgeous and exclusively fancy, yet the staffs and waitresses/ waiters are friendly and nice. The atmosphere is calm and quite quiet for such a popular venue. We had a Viennese Melange Coffee and a Cappuccino, both were good. Kaiserschmarrn was totally unmatched with the thick yet light and fluffy pancakes, which are also soft and moist inside while slightly crispy outside. It was served with berries and apple jams. I can only highly recommend it, though the prices are totally on the higher end. Spending a slow morning there was perfect to observe the local tradition of cafe house.

On the pricier side, this lovely café has plenty of outdoor seating when the weather is nice, and a great menu. The food is fantastic, and the service is prompt and welcoming. If budget isn’t an issue, it’s definitely worth trying local specialties like goulash or schnitzel.

For us Sacher, Strudel and Vienna melange coffee were one of the main point in this trip. This place is ideal to sit and try the Vienna sweets. Strudel with ice cream and vanilla cream is super tasty. Sacher cake is a bit dry, but also nice. Coffee melange in the small cup, tasty and nice. Friendly staff and comfortable view to the city.

We choose Café Museum to enjoy one of our first breakfasts during our stay in Vienna. Beverages were great and the Mozart Cakes were just fine! Here goes the side note. Apparently there's a dress code no one knows about: We were seated with a disgusted face by the chief personnel just because we choose to dress casual and not in an old fashioned way like many other guests. They did not even took our jackets as they did for other people who were seated before us. Choose another old café to better enjoy the cozy atmosphere they have!

What a cute and lovely experience to step into this cafe. Very warm and welcoming staff. Really nice coffee. Nice, simple and healthy cooking of dishes. Really cute idea to get a token to order a slice of cake directly at the counter.

This is a really nice, cozy cafe with a great atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Let's talk about the cakes: they were truly amazing. I highly recommend trying them. They're definitely the highlight! The service system is a little unique: you have to buy tokens from the waiter, which you then exchange for the cake of your choice at the counter. It worked fine, but be prepared for that step. The coffee was okay-ish (nothing special, but totally drinkable). Just be warned, this place gets crowded. If you don't have a reservation, expect to wait a little for a table, but honestly, the cakes make the wait worth it!
The D — Google review
As I understand it, this café has a social mission - that’s probably the only thing that can justify such high prices for everything. The coffee is good, and the cake is tasty too. The breakfast with a sandwich is quite ordinary, nothing special. The atmosphere itself is unusual; you can spend a long time looking around - there are lots of little details. It’s worth booking a table in advance, even on a weekday.

Lovely cafe, just so homely and delicious food, shakshuka was good as well home made rolls. Cute bathrooms. Expect a wait as it gets busy! But it’s worth it!

This is a lovely and charming restaurant–coffeehouse. The staff are exceptionally attentive and genuinely friendly — something you don’t often find in Vienna. It’s the perfect spot for tourists exploring the city. Walking into the restaurant feels like being hugged by your grandmother — cozy, comforting, and full of warmth. The desserts were freshly made, warm, and absolutely delicious. My only complaint was that it was very pricey. I ordered two mélange and two apple strudels which total €27.

Very good dessert and ambience! The grandpas and grandmas are so lively and dessert was amazing. We got the Buchtel and caprese cake. Both were so good. Not overly sweet. Def recommend! And they have cute postcards as a souvenir from here.
Rin S — Google review
We were in Vienna for a few days for my Mum's 60th birthday, and decided to drop into the Vollpension having seen it on TV in the UK. It most definitely lived up to expectations - we ate the buchtel and it was delicious, and the atmosphere of the place is so quaint and cosy, you really do feel like you're in Granny's living room! The highlight was the staff - so welcoming and so chatty, and when they found out it was Mum's birthday, it wasn't long before a free cake with a candle was coming out and they were singing happy birthday to her! Such a treat, and a definite highlight of our trip. A hidden gem that I would recommend to anyone visiting Vienna!
Kieran K — Google review
We were seated inside amid the bustle and bric-a-brac. We ordered the big breakfast - a perfectly cooked boiled egg, five delicious breads, pickles, cheeses, meats, orange juice, sparkling wine, cake, butter and jam. Plus coffee. It's a fun place. Attentive an friendly staff. Worth a detour.

Café Frauenhuber is a classic Viennese café housed in a former medieval bathhouse, boasting a rich history dating back to 1824. The café's traditional ambiance features vaulted ceilings, grand chandeliers, and deep burgundy upholstery. Notably, it was frequented by renowned composers such as Mozart and Beethoven, with the former giving his final public concert there. Despite its age, the café has added an outdoor terrace while maintaining its historic charm.

An old coffee house with a rich history. The classics were available to order, paired nicely with a nice hot cup of coffee. Though the room was a bit warm to my liking, but I was able to sit back, relax and my mind seeming traveled back in time to imagine what it was like when the Greats such as Mozart and Beethoven came in and enjoyed their afternoon snack. The place was relatively quiet, interior design simple but clean. Servers were attentive of patrons, but gave ample room to sit back without being rushed. Definitely worth a visit when in Vienna to soak in the history of this place.

Highly recommended. Melange Coffee was amazing, Kaiserschmarm was ok. The apple and the plum sauces were nice but the kaiserschmarm itself was thick and kinda dry and the portions are waaay too big in my opinion. I also detest having to tip in a non tipping country

The schnitzel and fries were really good but the older man waiter was very rude and has terrible customer service skills. Took awhile to even acknowledge me and then just told me to look at the qr menu because I don’t speak german. And when I ordered I accidently misspoke and ordered the more expensive still mineral water and instead of regular tap water. When I asked him to take it away when he brought out because it wasn’t what I wanted, he wasn’t at all empathetic and insisted that I couldn’t change the water order when I hadn’t even laid a finger on it. He said it’s too late because it was open as if he wasn’t the one who opened it! Just difficult for no reason. Good food bad service. Not good for tourists

The place has a good atmosphere if you like to read but unfortunately the customer service it’s quite bad. We ordered 2 coffees and 2 breakfast, we received the coffee few minutes later but waited around 40 minutes for the food, when the waiter actually realised that he forgot about our order and that he was gonna do it fast. As long as I heard that I understood that something was gonna be off. And it was. The food was brought 10 minutes later, and it was clearly done without giving care. The Austrian soft boiled eggs that should be soft inside were completely dry. The butter was fully melted. We paid 25 euros for the two plates you see in the picture, we expected something good quality but unfortunately it was quite poor quality and taste. I would not recommend this place, specially considering the amount of good places that Vienna offers.

The very nice lady at the candle shop around the corner recommended this place for a drink and a bite to eat - we were glad we took her advice! There's indoor and outdoor seating - the locals seemed to take the lower indoor bar area while we sat just inside the door. Lovely atmosphere - it feels very authentic. Be aware…Cash ONLY!! The waitress wasn’t so nice from beginning, and as I was finishing my cake and coffee, she abruptly told me she is going home and need me to pay right now. I told her I don’t have cash with me, then she asked me to go to the ATM nearby, which I don’t have any card on me or PayPal account either. I suggested to go back to where I live, which is 10 mins away, and she said she can’t wait this long cause she is going home right now. It was only in the afternoon…who would’ve expected that to happen? I ended up borrowing cash from another table of nice people. The “cash only” itself isn’t a huge problem, but it could’ve been handled better anyway…

A nice coffee place with the famous cappuccino in an ice cream cone. It is somewhat hidden, however very close to the subway station. As the name suggests, it is sold through a window and no sitting area. The Barista was very nice. Love the concept!

This is a small takeout café located right beside my Airbnb. I saw many people waiting for their coffee served in waffle cones, which looked intriguing—so I decided to try it. The latte in the cone was delicious, and you can enjoy the waffle as you sip your drink. Given that it’s a takeout coffee spot, the price is a bit on the higher side. But it was worth it for the experience of trying something unique in Vienna.

The most expensive coffee I ever had ( 18 Euro) but also the most amazing. The coffee is delicious ( had it with oatmilk, and the cone is homemade, coated inside with the most delicious Belgian chocolate. Love it. You must try. The lady was very sweet and friendly as well.

Such a cool and unique concept! ☕️ This little coffee window is full of charm — tucked in a quiet old street and beautifully lit at night. The idea of ordering through the window makes it feel cozy and special. The coffee was amazing, smooth and rich, and the service was friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Vienna!

Fenster Café is honestly one of the most unique coffee spots I’ve tried in Vienna. They serve their coffee inside a chocolate-dipped cone, which looks amazing and is super Instagram-worthy. Prices are on the higher side – around €12 for the simpler version and about €18 for the one decorated with Smarties or extra chocolate – but it really felt like a special treat rather than just a coffee. What surprised me the most was that the coffee itself was actually really good, not just a gimmick. The combination of the rich espresso with the melting chocolate from the cone was delicious. The café is tucked away in the Fleischmarkt area in Vienna’s 1st district, which is such a beautiful and historic part of the city. Overall, it’s not something I would do every day, but if you’re visiting Vienna or just want a fun and memorable coffee experience, Fenster Café is absolutely worth it.

Stopped by Café Fernster in Vienna and tried the famous coffee in a cone — yes, it’s a little pricey, but honestly, it was more about the experience than just the coffee. Such a fun and unique treat! The guy working there (wish I remembered his name!) was really nice and welcoming, which made the visit even better. Definitely worth it if you’re looking for something a bit different and Instagram-worthy in Vienna. 😊☕🍦

☕ Cute little spot in Vienna - very welcoming staff and cozy vibes. 🍦 The coffee served in an ice cream cone is definitely an original twist. 💸 But… at 12€, it’s one of the priciest coffees I’ve ever had. ✨ Experience: fun and Instagrammable ⚖️ Quality vs price: seriously overpriced

Brass Monkey is a charming coffee shop located on Gumpendorfer Strasse in Vienna. The cafe features a shabby-chic style and offers a variety of breakfast options, including vegan choices. In addition to their delicious cupcakes, the cafe serves snacks, cakes, cookies, and brownies. Guests can also enjoy Greek coffee from Taf and hot chocolate from France. Despite its small size with limited seating, the cafe has garnered positive reviews for its friendly staff and quick service.
Definitely stop by if you can. I was here twice, once in the evening and once during the day. They have hands down THE BEST cupcakes I’ve ever eaten and this is not an exaggeration :) the pistachio cream was 12/10. The barista, a Greek lady (I didn’t ask for her name, sorry!) was super friendly and made me feel very welcome the first time. So much so I came back the day after to try the peanut butter cupcake she recommended. It’s good… but I’m still team pistachio.

Out of about 10 third wave places I tried on my trip to Vienna, this was the best. I tried another branch of theirs and it wasn’t as good, this branch is where it’s at! The barista just knows he has the best coffee and the swag vibe is on point. The 8.8 flat white had the strength and milkwork balanced of some of the best out there. The beans were well selected.
Lift_Run_Eat_ — Google review
Great especially coffee. I loved my cappuccino although I usually drink flat white. I also tried the brownie, croissant and chocolate croissant was the best. They also gave me a free coffee as a good gesture because I bought a lot of stuff ☺️.

I love the vibe at this place. Moreover, in my opinion they serve the best cupcakes you can buy in Vienna. Especially carrot and peanut butter are absolutely delicious.

These are seriously the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. They’re amazing and the coffee was really good too - didn’t expect that. The owner is super nice and you can tell he really cares about what he’s doing. I’m definitely going back to try more flavors. If you like cupcakes, you should check this place out - totally worth it!

Went there with a friend for coffee. Super nice staff and simple but pretty interior. Sadly it's quite small so there's not much space for a lot of people, also the toilet is next door. However, we really enjoyed our coffee and the (vegan) cupcakes are AMAZING!

With an outdoor terrace available during warmer months, POC offers a unique setting for enjoying superb third wave coffee. Housed in an old church in Vienna's eighth district, this intimate cafe boasts minimalist interiors and serves sumptuous brews.
The ideal little coffee shop tucked away in the ninth. It's very nondescript and yet super inviting. The folks running it are really friendly and they know their specialty coffee. It's a small spot, great place for a little alone time or a one on one hang.

Fantastic coffee spot! Robert is such a delight and serves an unbelievably smooth oatmilk latte (for €3,60)! The café is on the corner and forms part of the church so don't miss the entrance! The perfect place to grab a coffee to go, sit and read, work on yout laptop, or hang out with friends during/after class (it's right next to the uni).

Almost as if hidden in a corner, this one's a pretty cool spot to hang out over coffee and conversations. Limited menu. Great coffee. Friendly staff. Humble prices. And in general a great place to visit!

Cannot recommend enough. Great curated coffee, small but thoughtful menu, very welcoming owner. It's a small space where people are mostly chatting with friends, not any other laptops when I came. No food on the menu but it seemed OK to bring your own snacks. Chat with the barista and you'll learn a lot about their choice of coffees!

Kaffeemodul is a cozy and compact coffee spot located in Vienna's 8th district. Since its opening in 2012 by Valentin and Boris, it has become a popular destination for caffeine enthusiasts. The small space offers pour-over cups and espresso-based drinks, creating a sense of design despite its size.
"For espresso we have Brazil today. Oh wait, would you like something more fruity? We have Ethiopian, natural or washed." With this kind and tempting introduction, the barista and the place have gotten me forever. Gem of specialty place. The eating range is limited, but you find suitable options just around the corner, though.

A solid, hole-in-wall speciality coffee shop serving perfectly executed cortados. Café Mozart is a renowned Viennese coffee house with a rich history and a popular spot for opera performers and enthusiasts. The café's elegant interior, complete with crystal chandeliers and comfortable seating, adds to its charm. It is known for its delicious food, particularly the excellent tafelspitz. Additionally, Café Mozart offers a variety of gluten-free options, including delectable chocolate mousse cake.
Café Mozart is a true Viennese gem! The atmosphere perfectly blends historic charm with a warm, welcoming vibe, making it an ideal place to relax and soak up the city’s spirit. The food is outstanding—beautifully prepared, full of flavor, and presented with great care. From traditional Austrian specialties to delightful pastries, every dish feels authentic and thoughtfully crafted. The service is exceptional: attentive, friendly, and efficient without ever feeling rushed. Whether for breakfast, lunch, or a leisurely coffee and cake, Café Mozart offers a memorable experience that captures the essence of Vienna. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the city!
Smita P — Google review
We ordered a pink latte, which was quite nice, though it seemed to contain cinnamon, which wasn’t mentioned on the menu. We also tried the Sacher and Buchteln (buns). The Sacher was okay, though not the best we’ve tried. The Buchteln, however, felt a bit overpriced — almost 15 euros for two small buns with vanilla custard that tasted rather artificial. On the positive side, they were soft and filled with warm jam, which was a nice touch. The part that disappointed us was the service at the end. When paying, the waiter (or possibly the manager) asked if he could add a 10% tip to the bill. We found this request quite unprofessional, especially considering the very minimal service provided. Overall, while the café looks lovely, the value for money and service experience didn’t meet our expectations. There’s another café just a few meters away that offers a much better overall experience.
Serge R — Google review
The full English and eggs Benedict were delicious…I had room for an apple strudel which didn’t disappoint either! Food delicious and great service. I am only marking this down a star as there is no accessible toilet so my mother couldn’t go as she can’t do steps (had to go to Starbucks)
Emma P — Google review
I stopped by Café Mozart for lunch and left with mixed feelings. The ambience was lovely—elegant yet welcoming, with that classic Viennese charm. Unfortunately, the lunch menu was underwhelming and didn’t live up to expectations. The flavors felt rather bland, and it wasn’t as enjoyable as I had hoped. The soup was extremely salty. On the brighter side, the dessert truly saved the experience: the cake I ordered was excellent, rich, and beautifully presented. If you’re coming here, I’d recommend skipping the lunch menu and going straight for coffee and cake in this wonderful atmosphere.
Anju R — Google review
Cafe Mozart is a cozy cafe conveniently situated in the heart of the city. We had blueberry cake and tea. It was lunch time when we went there and people were having different types of soup which looked very delicious. The service was really good and the atmosphere was also welcoming and warm.
Nesrin D — Google review
Café Mozart truly has a historic charm paired with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We tried the apple strudel, hot chocolate, and a few cocktails and everything was really good. What stood out the most was the warm and welcoming staff who made our visit exceptionally pleasant. A delightful place to stop and enjoy a classic Viennese experience.
Mariam B — Google review
This café has been rated highly both here and in numerous blogs so we did come here with high expectations. We made a reservation after seeing the crazy queues for Hotel Sacher's cafe around the corner and because our four year old was in tow. We were immediately seated by a smiley young man and the seating was nice and comfortable. The cakes and coffee were fine, the Sacher torte was a little dry but coffee helped with that and the Apple strudel +custard was albeit lukewarm. The let down sadly was the service, it was a little abrupt during ordering and payment but also you were oddly ignored otherwise. This would be fine in a Starbucks but maybe not in an establishment with these prices, reputation and with staff keen to get a tip out of you when you pay with card! If you want to say you've had a coffee and cake experience in Vienna this isn't the worst place to go to but you can get better cake, coffee and service elsewhere.

Probably the best coffee in Vienna, definitely top 3. The flavour of the 8.6 flat white was really good and the milk work was the best I’d had in the city. Setting is, of course, brilliant and it’s a good place to come and chill.

We looked for a while to find a place here in Vienna that served good coffee. This place was exactly what we were looking for. Extreme attention was paid to every step of the preparation of our coffees, and there was nothing to complain about. Prices are very reasonable, especially when taking into account the effort put into every coffee. The setting is also very nice, inside a beautifully decorated corridor.

Small specialty café with a simple, cozy vibe. The barista was very friendly, spoke perfect English which I really appreciated as a tourist, and made me feel welcome. I had a flat white with oat milk; the coffee was clearly high quality, but the flavor was a bit too acidic for my taste. I usually prefer smoother, nuttier blends. Still, this is a great spot for those who enjoy brighter, fruitier coffee profiles.

Especially if you're someone who can't settle for a single cup, a filter coffee with the roast of the day fills 3 cups & works like magic. Looked super inviting from the outside. There is a big out door space where you can take a seat while it’s sunny. On the inside you’ll have plenty of space as well and also the tables are wide apart, so you’ll not have to take part in you neighbors conversation. About the coffee, well the baristas are great. You can also see their trophies from brewing comparisons being displaced on the counter. Coffee tastes great, not bitter, neither sour, simply a creamy nice coffee. In case you’d be hungry, there were also some good looking cakes, toasts, croissants,…

Love AIDA. Hope you get lucky and get beautiful “Bernadette” as your Waitress. Fun, and speaks great English. But beware not all locations have the same menu. This location has breakfast all day. The egg dishes included a Scrambled options which comes with a small salad and 2 slices of toast. Cappuccinos were nice and strong. Centrally located in Vienna town. It claimed to serve the 'best coffee and cakes' but we didn't think so. The fruit smoothy I got was tasteless, felt it was made with water and not juice. Price is reasonable though. Service staff is attentive and got a sense of humour, otherwise I would have rated this a 1-star place.

Service is too low and too rude. I chose this brunch several times, but still no chance. They are not friendly and the service quality is not high. Despite the service location being great. The view is also awesome. Sweets are fresh and tasty. Especially local applesweet is good here. At least for takeaway, I recommend to try. Other deserts are a bit costly.

This place is supposed to be a ‘low cost alternative’ to caffès like Cafe Central, Landtman…. However, the price was almost the same as in more iconic places and you even have to pay to go to the toilet despite having consumed in the Café. The coffees were good but de Kaiserschmarrn was nothing highlightable (I’d recommend to taste others like Demel’s as you’ll get better quality and experience)

Coffee Aida is a decent café located in a very tourist-friendly area of Vienna, making it a convenient stop for visitors exploring the city. The location is definitely a plus if you’re sightseeing and need a quick coffee break. While the café offers a pleasant atmosphere and good service—the staff are friendly and welcoming—the menu is relatively limited compared to other coffee spots in Vienna. If you’re looking for a wide variety of specialty drinks or artisanal pastries, you might find more exciting options elsewhere in the city. That said, Aida maintains a classic Viennese charm and is a reliable choice for a simple coffee and snack. It’s not the most innovative or diverse café, but it delivers a consistent experience with courteous service. 👍 Good for a quick stop in a tourist zone 👎 Limited menu compared to other Viennese cafés 😊 Friendly staff and clean environment

It’s a beautiful place, easily accessible from Karlsplatz and Stephansplatz U-Bahn stations (U1 line). The café has three floors, each nicely decorated and full of charm. My tip: when going upstairs, take a look at the cakes on display so you know which one to order — the menu unfortunately doesn’t have pictures. I ordered a chocolate cake and a cappuccino, and both were excellent. We sat facing the opera building and really enjoyed the view. Highly recommended!

I have to say, if I lived in Vienna, this would be my place to go every Saturday morning for breakfast. Even if it were just for a coffee, I swear, this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been for breakfast. Seriously. And not only is the place beautiful, but the breakfast itself was amazing. Everything there, from the service, to the atmosphere, to the entrance, to the area where you leave your coats, even the bathrooms, everything is perfect. This place is a 10/10 in every way. There are standards… and then there is this place. This is the standard. I genuinely wish I lived in Vienna just so I could come here all the time. I also wish I could have gone more than once on my trip, but I needed to try other places and didn’t have much time. Still, I’m so glad we walked by, saw it, and decided to go in. It was unbelievable. The food is so good, the coffee is delicious, the service is great, and the desserts are amazing. It’s truly a 10/10 place. I have nothing bad to say, not even one thing. I don’t even have the words to explain how good it is. If you’re in Vienna and you see this place, go. It’s super chill, so good, and honestly unforgettable. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

The Palatschinken (crepes) with chocolate and whipped cream were rich and satisfying without being too heavy. And the coffees? Excellent. The Einspänner with whipped cream was just right for the setting—warm, slightly decadent, and exactly what you’d hope to sip in Vienna. Service was warm and attentive even during the busy hours, and the pace of the place lets you really enjoy your time. Highly recommend for a relaxed afternoon coffee and dessert in a traditional setting.

I visited this café and really enjoyed the experience. The apple strudel isn’t the traditional kind you’d expect. The atmosphere of the place is truly special – cozy, charming, and different from other cafés

Very authentic and original place. Good coffee and good food. Servers are usually quite busy and do their best to serve everyone, but during busy hours, be prepared to wait a bit longer. Great for breakfast, lunch, or a quick coffee break.

Cash only but they do have an atm inside the cafe. Lack of friendliness from the waiter is made up by extremely fast service. The sausage and goulash are delicious but the schnitzel is more on the disappointing side. Overall it is very affordable for such a classic looking place

I have only drunk tea so not much to comment on that. However, atmosphere is glamorous as they kept it originally since 19th century. Price is affordable.

Perfect strudel. Place is really cozy, which is straight out of 19th century. Strudel was fresh and hot, kinda burned myself :D

Nice food, nice atmosphere but spoiled by a rude and unpleasant service. Pictured is the very good potato, egg and creamed spinach vegetarian main dish. I’ve had a lot of creamed spinach in Austria and this one has a good balance between the roux and cream. The goulash soup was also pretty good

THIS PLACE IS SUCH A VIBE. A real Viennese cafe — with all the people gathering late i. The evening. Compared to the other viennese cafes, this one is democratic and thats what makes it so special. The desserts are where its at!

Wow! This place was a find! Really cosy authentic restaurant and I had a delicious and perfect lunch here. Very nice pleasant service. It wasn't fast, but hey I was on holiday and the number of locals in there reading their newspapera is a clue. Great place, hopefully I will visit again some day.

A traditional Austrian cafe. Don't expect a modern menu or modern service. I think it's a cafe where you can enjoy yourself while feeling the history of Austria.
Mozuku — Google review
Decent place for an afternoon snack. There were several cakes to choose from, which were pretty nice, especially the traditional chocolate cake, which resembles the black forest cake. The coachman (Espresso with rum and cream) was a nice change from the usual espresso, which paired well with the desserts.
Eric H — Google review
The dessert was ok but I can't say I enjoyed it much, it was mushy and too heavy for my liking and I could barely taste the strudel because of the sauce. Coffee was mid as well. It's fine though -i tried new things and they just didn't work out for me but in general the place is too expensive to serve in chipped dishes 💀

It felt like home. Cozy and sweet. The waiter who served us was the nicest man on earth. I only ordered my morning coffee there but it tasted heavenly. I enjoyed that there were newspapers you could read quietly. It had a dated decor and that added to the charm for me. Also I enjoy that it was so close to Albertina museum and I could wait there until opening hours. I recommend if you need a warm place to spend some quiet time.

Accidental find on day 1. Been here virtually every day since. Either breakfast (same price as hotel but muuuuuch better), coffee (it is a stereotypical coffee house, or dinner (it is a small selection and stops at 19:00). Very relaxed atmosphere and very good wait staff.

Great experience here, the waiter was super nice and personable. The farmers omelette and apple strudel is delicious. Love how traditional this place is.

Spacious, bright venue with a pleasant retro atmosphere. I went there on a friend’s recommendation to try their Sachertorte, which I must say… was spectacular! I also had a rich and satisfying Viennese breakfast. If I had to offer one suggestion to improve the customer experience, it would definitely concern the welcome and the attitude of the staff, which I found rather cold. Their efficiency—particularly regarding kitchen closing times and dish availability—came across as borderline discourteous. That said, I would still recommend it for the excellent food, and I would gladly return.

Kurkonditorei OBERLAA - Café Dommayer is a charming establishment that embodies the essence of Viennese café culture. Known for its exquisite cakes, pastries, and specialty teas and coffees, this venue also delights visitors with homemade ice cream during the summer months. Nestled in a tranquil street near Schönbrunn Castle, it offers a cozy outdoor seating area perfect for soaking up the sun while enjoying your meal.
Café Dommayer is a wonderful Austrian cafe in Vienna that serves delicious sweet treats and yummy breakfast dishes. We went there for breakfast and I got the omelette with three mixed vegetables and it was very tasty. They served amazing hot drinks. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful, and the service was good!

The Sachertorte just tasted like a regular chocolate cake—not overly sweet. The texture was okay, but a bit boring. The King’s Cake was pretty good, especially with the raspberry sauce—it paired well and was suitable for two people. The latte was decent as well. Overall, there was nothing wrong with the food. However, the service was really not okay. The server’s attitude wasn’t very friendly when we were ordering. There were five of us, and we were ordering one by one. When I finished ordering and said, “That’s all,” the server immediately tried to walk away. We quickly told him that there were more orders, and I clarified, “That’s all is just me.” His expression instantly changed, and afterward, he kept asking, “Is that all? Are you sure? Absolutely sure?” Later, when confirming the dishes as they were served, he was also quite impatient.

We came to try the Sachertorte & while we weren't big fans (it was quite dry unfortunately), we absolutely loved the other cakes we tried – the strawberry and lemon one. 🍋🍓 The atmosphere is very elegant but cozy at the same time & is a great place to take a break from a busy day.

At GOTA Coffee Experts, the talented baristas know how to whip up some of the best coffee in Vienna. Not only do they roast their own beans, but they also offer barista trainings for anyone who wishes to learn more. Their coffee is sourced from South America, where Arabica beans are grown in Peru, Ethiopia and El Salvador.
One of the best coffee and breakfast spots I’ve experienced — and the warmest service in Vienna. I had breakfast at GOTA on a busy morning and was still blown away by how friendly and thoughtful the staff were — especially Katie, who was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive despite the rush. She took time to answer all my questions and gave great recommendations. I ordered the vegan pancakes, banana bread, and a flat white. I’m usually not a pancake person, but these were genuinely delicious — fluffy, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The banana bread was rich and comforting without being too sweet. And the flat white? A solid 10/10 — one of the best I’ve had, with perfect milk texture and a balanced espresso. The vibe is minimalist and relaxed, the beans are clearly high quality (lots of single-origin options to take home), and everything on the menu feels intentional. Can’t recommend it enough — I’ll definitely return whenever I visit Vienna. 📍 GOTA is a must-visit for coffee lovers and anyone who appreciates thoughtful hospitality.

The staff are polite and attentive, making the experience even better. Their coffee is rich and well-prepared, and the pastries are fresh and delicious. Prices are reasonable compared to the quality. A perfect place for both working and socializing ,I’ll definitely visit again

The no 3 Coffee Shop in the world more than meets the high expectations. Well earned rewards! The award is a deserved accolade for the shop and the experience is a treat for the customers. Everything is fantastic and it was a pleasure to meet the lovely co-owener Katherine Brun. One interesting twist is their partnering with very distinguished guest roasters
David D — Google review
The café has a friendly and welcoming service, which makes for a pleasant atmosphere. However, it does feel a bit overpriced for what you actually get. I tried the pistachio cheesecake — the cheese layer itself had a very nice, creamy consistency, but the pistachios on top were soggy, as was the crust, which took away from the overall experience. We also ordered a flat white, which was good but nothing special, and a filtered Costa Rica coffee, which was aromatic and interesting — not your everyday typical brew. Still, for the price you pay, it was on the expensive side. As a one-time visit to see what the hype is about, it was fine.
Magdalena M — Google review
Not sure if you agree with me I think within the top tier food & beverage spots consistent service quality is equally if not more important than product itself….end of day we’re humans and expect basic standards of service levels…I visited Gota this morning (Tuesday) 9.50am and got seated pretty quick…however as visitor to Vienna & travelled 40mins this morning to check this coffee spot I asked staff for recommendation and got an answer ‘everything’s good’…I had to chase for tap water multiple times…my latte arrived bit spilled out of the cup…then I had to chase staff for carrot cake order as I think they forgot it completely…the product both coffee and cake was super good top notch… I’m hoping this is one of those one-offs however service consistency is the point I’m trying to highlight …I hope owners have a think how to have customers avoid such experiences, I’m not sure if I’ll recommend or ever visit this spot again…good luck!

Located near Schönbrunn Palace, I stopped by this well-known coffee shop. It’s quite popular, and it felt busy even when I visited. I ordered some breakfast and a hot latte. When I asked for the latte, the staff gave me a look like I didn’t know what I was doing — complete with an annoyed expression. So I asked, half-jokingly, “Is your latte really that bad?” He just brushed it off and continued taking other orders with a dismissive attitude. The coffee was actually quite good, and the prices were fair. If the service had been a bit friendlier, it would’ve been a great experience.

Great coffee place, friendly and attentive service although the place is packed. I arrived before 1pm on Saturday and the wait is 5 minutes. Even if longer, the coffee and food is worth it. It was selected as top 3 world’s coffee house and I can see why from the V60 filter coffee. The flavor of coffee is not bitter, as what is expected from top brew. Instead it is layered and bursting with complex flavors and notes. Amazing. The food is great too. Had the dish with 2 eggs, where the yolks are poached perfectly. The cake is amazing accompaniment to the coffee

We came here because a friend's recommendation and she was not wrong. We ordered the "Avocado Genuss", a croissant with ham and chesse and for coffees we had a latte and a double expresso (can't remember the name of the variety, the profile said fig, chocolate mousse and something else). Everything was delicious! We had a mixup with the order and mistakenly got a filter coffee (Colombian variety). I'm glad we made that mistake, cause it was so delicious too! The girl who assisted us was so friendly and so nice when we realised what happened with the filter coffee, will come back if we have the chance! 10/10

The No Panic Coffee is a great place to get coffee in Vienna. It's small and intimate, and the staff are really friendly. They serve great coffee and delicious home made cakes. The only downside is that the bathroom could use some improvement, but overall it's a great place to get a cup of joe in Vienna!
Loved the vibe here – super cozy and chill, and the staff were really nice. Heads up: it’s card only, no cash. I had the matcha affogato with pistachio ice cream and it was amazing! The crispy sweet bits in it were such a nice surprise, and the matcha was really good quality. Also tried the almond croissant – super fresh, flaky, and not overly sweet. Everything just hit the spot. Definitely coming back!

The best coffee and the best cakes ! The woman who makes the cakes is truly an artist ! A perfect combination of flavors and high-quality ingredients – I’m delighted. We’ve been coming to this place for a little over a year now, and after today’s Apple Cake and Flat White Iced, I thought it was finally time to leave a review. I browsed some of the other comments because I was surprised that the rating is only 4.3… and I’ll just say one thing: We all have different tastes, and not all coffee blends are the same. When the café gets crowded, we should have some understanding – it’s a small place, and so many people come at the same time wanting takeaway coffee, plus there are guests sitting inside. Also, let’s not forget that we don’t always have a good day, and we never know what someone might be going through. Sometimes we’re all a bit unkind or rude to someone, and yet we’re always ready to judge others before we take a look at ourselves.

No Panic Cafe serves great coffee – I ordered a Piccolo, and it was fantastic! However, the place was quite crowded, and it took some time to find a table. Unfortunately, I couldn't order food because they asked me to wait due to having "too many customers," which was understandable given the crowd. While it's a shame I didn't get to try their food, the quality of the coffee made up for it. If you're looking for a good cup of coffee and don't mind waiting a bit, No Panic Cafe is worth a visit!

Very nice little coffee place in Wien. There are only a few tables so be careful around busy times. The avocado smash and poached egg few just great; they do not have a gluten free option for the bread, so had mine without bread. Their signature lemonade was very interesting, but a bit too sweet for me. The specialty coffee was amazing and they have lactose free milk or oat milk. The service was really good although it was quite a busy morning. Although you can't spot it, they do have a modest bathroom; just ask at the bar.

I just had a weird experience on this place, I came on a Sunday for a coffee and opened my computer to book some flights, then a man from the coffe bar caught my attention to tell me I couldnt use a computer and I put it away. I was about to leave a review to let other people know that you can´t use a computer on weekends (seems important information for me to share) and I just get a comment from the same man at the bar asking me if I am leaving a 1 star review (which honestly I was not doing because the coffee and the vibes of the place are actually so nice), but I honestly don't understang why he was prying in my privacy of what I was doing in my phone. Anyway, we caught in a discussion and I left. So in general the coffee and the place is super nice just note that you will get screamed at for taking your computer out on a nice Sunday afternoon. He did say there are "signs everywhere", there was not one sign close to where I was sitting. And at the end he said that the one star review was now worth it, so here you go.

Really nice place. However, the worker was quite rude. I think he doesn’t know how to properly address things with customers. I was sitting outside with my laptop in a chilly weather with empty tables around me. He came and told me to leave the coffeeshop rudely because they have no-laptop policy over the weekends (very weird rule). I respect the coffeeshop policy but there is no reason to be rude with the customer and act as if you are doing me a “favor” by letting me sit here for extra time. It is absolutely unacceptable. Won’t be coming again. Although, a shame, because it really has a nice atmosphere. Hope they will be changing some of their workers ASAP.

Honestly, this was the worst coffee experience I have ever had, because the owner of the place literally kicked us out!!! The reason? We were two people, and while my colleague ordered coffee, I did not. We only wanted to have a short 15-minute meeting, my colleague just wanted to drink a coffee and then leave. What makes it even more disappointing is that we not only came often ourselves, but we also used to recommend this café and even send our own clients there as we work close to this Place and also Members of our team have been always going this place When we told the owner, “We are your regular customers, but after this we won’t come anymore and will leave a bad review,” his response was simply: “I don’t care about you.” This is absolutely outrageous. You cannot treat customers this way—especially loyal ones who bring you consistent business and recommend you to others. I am convinced that with such an attitude, this place will not last much longer. If you don’t care, then we also don’t care. We wish you many more unhappy customers like us!!!

Café Restaurant Bräunerhof is a charming and traditional spot located in a quiet street near Vienna's tourist center. The ambiance is delightfully old-fashioned, with attentive waitstaff and occasional live music performances. It's a favorite among locals for its relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal place to enjoy Viennese classics or simply unwind with a cup of coffee and some cake.
As there was a queue in front another traditional restaurant in the alley, I walked ahead, passed by here, looked inside, saw the nice authentic setting and immediately walked in. The interior was charming, and the waiter was attentive and efficient; he remembered to take my order after doing several tasks on the side of areas that I sat on. Schnitzel and Suppe were good. Not stunning and a bit over priced, but well made, balanced taste. On tipping : as mentioned, the waiter was attentive and efficient, however at the end, He directly asked for 1 more euro for tip when he saw I gave a 20 Euro note for a 19 Euro bill. I was taken back, as tipping is not as a mandatory by norm in the country, and the good impression from before was a bit dented, but I read there were similar behaviours at the old cafe next door (Cafe Hawelka),so all aspects considered, I accepted the behaviour of asking for tips as an unspoken norm for these old cafes geared towards tourists as an unfortunate development of tourism in this area that was unpleasant but not that outrageous.

Nice hidden gem in an overall crowded Vienna. Feels like stepping back in time, and looks very authentic to me as far as I can tell. Prices are very reasonable and the staff was friendly to me. Had to change my rating for service: Unfortunately I lost something- impossible to call someone over there, it seems somebody keeps picking up but doesn’t answer.

If you think observing locals of Wien reading their newspapers in peace and quite is a good tourist activity; then I recommend this place to you. This is an authentic spot to try the food and beverages of Wien a bit away from the tourist crowd. Waiters are helpful with explaining the menu. If you don't break the vibe, you'll enjoy an authentic local experience. We ate veal and it was good.

The coffee is horrible, the cake is dry, and most of the staff are pretty rude (even if you speak German - I was heavily berated and told not to take photos simply because I had a camera with me, even with zero intention of using it). That said, it doesn’t get much more authentic than this place, in the best and worst ways. The decor is absolutely beautiful.

A very authentic place, with the atmosphere of the old cafés and a really good price despite being in the center. They have a very complete lunch menu for 8.5E. We didn't get there in time to order this menu so we ordered another option they have, a 12.50E menu. The dish was good and the service was correct and fast. I recommend it.
Adriana A — Google review
Came here for the strudel especially, which was good but nothing exceptional. The main meals were ok but you can get much better elsewhere for only slightly higher prices. The Sachertorte was disappointingly dry and tasted like it had been standing around for a while. Waiters were quite impatient but this is part of the traditional experience. Atmosphere very authentic.
Neta M — Google review
A bit crowded. The schnitzel was more breading than meat. And they only serve .33 beers in bottles for 3.90. That was the worst part. The atmosphere of the place was cool though. We'll probably go back during off season.

Fantastic value for money, menu is in German because it’s traditional and not set up for tourists. The waiters are efficient and may seem rude or impolite but please remember that this is actually Viennese culture. We spoke a bit of German and they were very pleased that we made an effort. Live traditional music playing too. Was like stepping into a Time Machine :)

Nestled in the charming 18th district, Café Schopenhauer is a delightful blend of old-world elegance and modern flair. With its high ceilings, large windows, and marble-topped tables, this historic L-shaped coffeehouse exudes a timeless charm that has captivated visitors for decades. Great place to have a morning coffee and a quick bite. Inside is extremely cosy, and you immediately get a warm feeling as you step in. Your perfect place to also sit down and relax or read and study. Try to get a reservation before you come here. I really needed the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of Cafe Schopenhauer, which has a modern feel (book store/dinner) without losing touch of its roots. The Putengeschnetzeltes and Topfenstrudel were delicious and the staff friendly and efficient. The Tom Waits playing just before closing only added to the atmosphere

This was very disappointing, the place looked good from the reviews and is very close to where I am staying but the service was terrible. We asked the waiter if we could sit and since the first moment his attitude was off, he said we could sit if there were tables available, we were gonna sit and he yelled at us that someone else was first. I mean then maybe pay more attention to your costumers waiting? how were we supposed to know? We sat down and the other young waiter was nice. One of our dishes never came, the waiter never came to check the tables on our side, when we called him to ask again for the dish he acted rude and careless again. He acted surprised there was a dish missing, even though he apologized, service was very disappointing. We waved several times to pay, we just stood up and went to pay in the cashier. Never coming back, it’s sad cause it’s a cool place and the food is good! I was thinking having breakfast with my family there a few days in this trip but I will not. We felt discriminated cause of our nationality, all the other costumers got a great service, he even chatted with them. PS we thought it was a croissant with jam and butter, it was a plain white bread. Hope you can sort this out in the future.

Beautiful place with great vibes! The filled croissant was amazing, and the Palatschinken was okay. We were in a hurry, and when I asked at the counter if I could order there, the staff snapped: “We’ll come to you! This is a coffee house!” — okay, chill, coffee house police 😅 The orange juice came in a fancy wine glass, but barely filled — kinda funny, kinda sad. 😂 Lovely spot overall, just wish the service matched the atmosphere.

My absolute favorite cafe in Vienna! When someone asks me- where would you take your friends/family, this would be it. The atmosphere is unbelievable, it’s cozy, comfy and the coffee is delicious. This is perfect for your game nights, brunch, family meetings or just doing work or uni stuff. Also- lots of books, also english, and great choices. They also advise you, if you can’t decide. I always go for the vegans lentil soup, which is my favourite dish. They in general offer more traditional viennese food, so not a lot of vegan options, but it is worth every cent. Space is enough, but not really for groups bigger than 6, and book a table on rainy days!

J. Hornig Kaffeebar is a modern coffee shop located in the 7th district of Graz, Austria. The cafe offers a variety of high-quality coffee, including espresso-based and drip options, as well as excellent cold brew. It's an ideal spot to relax, work on your laptop or catch up with friends while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee.
Cozy little coffee spot with a friendly vibe and consistently great coffee. Their own blend gives each cup a unique, rich taste — easily one of the best in town for everyday coffee lovers.

A very uncomfortable place — seating is tight, the seats are poorly secured, and the tables are tiny. The coffee tasted sour and unpleasant. The desserts (we had a cinnamon roll and a strawberry pie) lacked flavor — it felt like eating sorghum. I don't feel like coming back, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Edit and reply to the answer of the owner: 30.10.2025. as there is no option to reply, i am editing my initial review in order to answer. I understand that it was a misunderstanding and it was fine. But nobody asked me if something was wrong with my coffee when i went to the counter second time, three people just watched me to get my second coffee and pay for it. And the main problem was that my second coffee was boiling hot. Thank you for taking the time to answer but your points are inaccurate. ————————————————————— After a long and exhausting day, I just wanted to have a coffee, relax, and enjoy a quiet moment. I ordered an Americano with “a little bit of milk.” The barista asked me to say “stop” while he poured the milk. After the very first drop, I said “enough,” but he kept pouring, so I repeated “enough, enough, enough!” Finally, he stopped—but by then, it looked more like a cappuccino. Somehow, he must have thought I was saying “more, more” (maybe because of the language barrier, since we spoke in German). I took my coffee, paid, and sat down, but after the first sip I realized I couldn’t drink it—it tasted only like milk, no coffee at all. So I went back to the counter and ordered the same coffee again, this time without milk. The barista prepared it without saying a word or asking if something had gone wrong with the first one, even though he clearly knew. I didn’t say anything either; I just paid again and sat down with my second coffee. Up to this point, it was already disappointing—but the real reason I’m writing this review is because my second coffee was boiling hot. It was far too hot to drink! So in the end, after spending almost €10 just to enjoy one simple cup of coffee in peace, I wasted both my money and my time—because I couldn’t drink either of them. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

Good coffee spot in a nice location! The coffee is always top notch and the atmosphere is great! Have to give it four stars though as they are pretty strict on laptops for a place in Vienna and the Wi-Fi works through a code that lasts an hour. I get the reasoning, but pretty unusual for Vienna and is a hassle.

Can’t believe there are still coffee shops around that don’t offer sweeteners (sugar free). white & brown sugar, syrup and honey are all just sugar in different forms and not healthy options. This is a really easy fix guys
A S — Google review
From the outside it looked nice. But it was not clean (I came even with kids, so I do not have a high standard). The cappuccino was oke (there are better places), but the croissant was really bad (dry and not much flavour). We also had the yoghurt with rasberries. But the rasberries were clearly frozen ones so really sour. Afterwards I think its more a place were you work on your laptop. Thats the vibe of the place. But they definatly can approve theorie food.

We dropped by on Saturday (bank holiday) afternoon to have some coffee and desserts and my boyfriend wanted to read a little with his computer. We chose the place because it was noted on Google as “study friendly” and was COMPLETELY empty. There were maybe max 3 more people inside coming and going. The cakes were nice and the coffee was decent. However, an extremely unfriendly staff approached us (after we’ve already set for half an hour) and told us that it is not allowed to have laptops on the tables on weekends. He tried to act as if he is simply referring to the rule, however the way he was telling us to stop using the laptop without suggesting any alternative felt like he is enjoying exercising his power and we must leave the place nearly immediately. I believe, if it was in his interests to create a good atmosphere, he would have made an exception and kindly warn us about general use and tell us maybe that we could stay until place is filling up, but he did NOT provide these alternatives. Instead, he claimed that the rule comes from the fact that they are “normally full” on the weekends. However, it was extremely empty when we came and it didn’t even make sense for him to come and bother us, as if we were taken up space. Apart from that, there was already another girl sitting with her laptop before we came and ruffly 30 minutes after we arrived. The stuff said NOTHING to her, claiming to us that he “didn’t notice” her. We are completely disagree with the general rule of no laptops on weekends, especially when the place is empty, and we therefore request the manager (if he even cares) to reconsider it by making a couple of exceptional travels for this purpose and to have a serious conversation with the stuff about being friendlier to the customers. They really do not care about customers. A quick remark, about 3 more clients left in 20 minutes for the same nonsense rule in 2025. I agree with all comments on the stuff unfriendliness written below and truly do not want to come back after my experience. Edit to the comment: minutes after I wrote my honest and adequate review, the same staff approached me, claiming that my review is “fake”, giving remarks on my attitude and honest opinion. I guess if my opinion is really “fake”, he would ignore it. I left extremely disappointed and my mood is now completely poisoned.
Victoria I — Google review
Not a good experience. I was seated next to the door and had to keep my hat and coat on because of the cold draft coming in. Meanwhile, there were three empty tables in the back that I wasn’t allowed to use just because I had a laptop. Food and drink were also not so good.

Café Nest is a charming spot in Vienna that offers a refreshing break from the bustling cafe scene. It's popular for its cozy and relaxed atmosphere, making it perfect for enjoying a lazy breakfast on weekends or bringing along your loved ones, including pets. The cafe's warm and inviting ambiance, combined with indoor and outdoor seating options, makes it an ideal place to unwind with a book or work on your laptop during the day.
Lovely café with a nice music inside and outdoor seating as well. I went for Sturm which was great as well as the cofee. Card payments possible.

My Favorite Café in Vienna: A Cozy Gem Amidst the Buzz This quaint café has been a delightful addition to my list of favorite spots in Vienna. It's a refreshing escape from the bustling 'bobo' cafés that dominate the district, offering a relaxed atmosphere that feels like a well-kept secret among the locals. Despite its small size, the café exudes warmth and charm, inviting you to stay a little longer than you might have planned. The food here is a revelation, standing out for its quality and taste, easily surpassing what's available in the surrounding area. But the true star of the show is the coffee—simply put, it's the best you'll find in the district, brewed to perfection and served with a genuine smile. The availability of newspapers adds a touch of tradition and leisure to your visit, encouraging you to slow down and savor the moment. Children are welcomed with open arms, making it a family-friendly haven where even the little ones find something to enjoy. And when summer arrives, the outdoor seating transforms the experience, allowing you to bask in the Viennese sun while indulging in your culinary favorites. This café is not just a place to grab a quick bite or a coffee; it's a retreat from the everyday hustle, a spot where every visit feels like a small vacation. It's clear why it has quickly become one of my favorite café houses in Vienna. The only drawback? It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, exactly when I often find myself wanting to go there.

This is by far one of my favorite places. It is really a comfortable and nice place to go to before or after a hike in the area. The food is really good and so is the coffee. The outdoor seating is great and the indoor seating is cozy. Plenty of space, kids running around, ping pong table. Bus stop right across the street so it is easy to get there. The wait staff is also very nice and quick considering how busy this place is.
Audrey K — Google review
Very cozy and relaxed atmosphere - perhaps a little too much so; once we got our food, the server basically ignored us in favor of her phone. Food is OK, but I missed some attention to details - eggs Benedict with generic white bread is just disappointing, and a couple lettuce leaves on the side wouldn’t hurt either. Coffee is of good quality but indifferently served: I ordered a flat white and got a latte, and the espresso was left to run too long, making it thin and watery. In short: it’s got the potential to be a really great place, and I wanted to like it more…but it needs work.

A tiny oasis of cool :) Relaxed and friendly service, excellent coffee, beautiful outdoor area and also really cool indoors (vintage furniture from the 50es-60es, jazz music, daily newspaper, books and board games). It's cozy, familiar and it seems like many customers are regulars.

Café Eiles, located in the 8th district near the town hall, is a local favorite offering daily specials, coffee, and delicious strudel in a relaxed atmosphere with booth seating. The modernized Viennese interior welcomes patrons including writers, poets, intellectuals, and politicians from nearby institutions. Despite some recent updates to the café's ambiance and menu offerings, one thing that remains unchanged is their reputation for serving some of the best apple strudels in town.
We came for a dinner. Ordered sarti spritz and schnitzel (both pork and chicken) and had a good time here. For some people the interior may be slightly outdated or too authentic but I think it creates pretty good atmosphere.

Went for a lunch Pumpking soup was amazing and had unique tastes. Schnitzel was somewhat rough, and not so tender as I had tried in other places. We also ordered applestrudel, but as abaker i could say it wasn't the best: There was too much crumble inside, the slice with the sauce was heated in the microwave because a skin was formed, and there wasn't a balance of sweetness.

It’s a charming cafe in a historical building. Staff is funny and uncomplicated. We were going for a breakfast, but unfortunately it was nothing special. The bread tasted old, like it’s from yesterday. Drinks were okay…

We were staying very close by and found the café both very convenient, friendly and good service. Open hours very customer friendly. We had an early dinner on two occasions. I ordered a very tasty pork schnitzel and the second time the spinach- ricotta tortellini also very good. The atmosphere is very charming and cosy.

Came here after we walked by and liked the vibe inside. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the cafe and thought was reasonably priced. They seemed to be a little understaffed, as wait times for ordering and paying were a bit more than normal, but not egregious. I got the sausages with mustard and horseradish and my wife got the Caesar salad, but we’re solid “meh” but the atmosphere was good enough for us to overlook the meal.

Café with good food but mediocre service This café is a sweet spot to have breakfast or a coffee and a cake. I would have given it 4 stars but I took a star off because the service is not very available. You have to keep looking for someone to flag to help you. The food was pretty good. We had their deconstructed pancakes and their breads which were very good. Their sacher torte and apple crumble were okay. Their lattes were good.
Anonymous A — Google review
I actually went here three times in my week trip of Vienna, and I don’t usually come to a place again when im traveling. The food and atmosphere were great. Honestly the lunch dishes are average at best, but the sweets and coffees are lovely. So is the atmosphere, as this coffee is not in a heavy touristic area, you get some of the Viennese coffee culture ambience that is hard to get closer to downtown. Also, the sacher torte they serve here is amazing On the downside, the service could be better. The waiters although attentive and fast, are a but cold and uninterested. But for me is still a must.

Probably my favourite restaurant in Vienna. The restaurant lived up to the reviews. At first the service was a lil shaky, but it got better. The food was amazing. Service was good . Such a lovely venue. Outdoor terrace seating is very modern and on a quiet street looking at a pretty church. The inside interior is very well preserved and still obtains a charming nostalgic look and feel. Quite a local place as well but I also felt very welcome as a tourist. The foods are nice. We didn’t come for breakfast but the traditional menu is quite sufficient too. The Sachertorte is delicious and the coffee is good.

Viennese people go there for breakfast and more and if you are lucky you can find a cost spot between the regulars. We had a great experience at GoldEgg. The food was delicious, portions were very generous, and everything was clean and well presented. Overall, a perfect spot for a hearty and tasty meal in Vienna. Highly recommended!

We were passing by Austria and decided to try some desserts and drinks. Their desserts were pretty good, and the soup was a traditional Austrian soup, which is refreshing and savoury. I like their interior and the atmosphere in the cafe. The staff members welcomed us graciously. However, a waitress with black hair asked for a tip at the end of the payment, which was a little surprising because, in my opinion, giving tips should be more voluntary and less of a request.

Cafe Harvest, located at Karmeliterplatz, is a trendy all-vegan restaurant in Vienna that offers a diverse menu of vegan dishes. The cafe is known for its all-you-can-eat brunch buffet on weekends, featuring a wide variety of cold and hot dishes including breakfast items like tofu scramble and bread with spreads, as well as heartier options like soups, burritos, and grilled vegetables.
Oh boy, what a cozy little place that I can truly recommend! We went there for Sunday brunch, and it was a lovely experience. The restaurant has the charm of a living room, making you feel right at home. The buffet offered a good variety of dishes to try, all of which were vegan. It’s not comparable to high-end brunch spots, but the price-to-quality ratio is great. What really stands out is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Café Kafka is a charming Viennese coffeehouse that has been serving locals since 1880. Tucked away from the bustling Mariahilfer Strasse, it offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking good coffee and a cozy atmosphere. The café's interior exudes the classic ambiance of traditional Viennese coffee houses, while also incorporating modern elements. First of all I want to say that the food experience was amazing here! The fact that this is a 3 star review is mainly because of the food, otherwise it would have been a lot less! The service was not so good as it took 10 minutes for them to bring us some coffee and also at the end when no one was willing to take our empty plates from the table so we can have some more space. They took it after 15 minutes when we wanted to pay and leave. But the worse part was with the dirt. The spoons and the coffee cups were dirty and this is a big hygiene issue. Also the bathroom was not so clean and not 100% functional! In conclusion a very good food experience, and very bad at everything else.
Denis I — Google review
Liebling was the first cafe we visited during our stay in Vienna because it was recommended as one of the "must try" breakfasts. As you enter you will realize that is a special furnished cafe with lots of different furniture which has an interest. However, the restrooms were very dirty and the locks didn't work. We were late getting our order and late being served on a Monday morning which it's not a very busy day and hour. We ordered shakshuka which I realized it was the no.1 dish and the egg benedicts with spinach and pieces of bacon. The portion was big enough but without taste. For the benedict eggs, the spinach covered the flavor of the dish and the bacon was like didn't exist in the dish. Shakshuka was just okay. The cappuccinos we ordered didn't have any strong flavor and the mugs had dirt on them. Generally we were not thrilled about the place we felt like the photos in Google are a little bit misleading and we don't know why is in the "must" of Vienna.
Stylianie M — Google review
Can food really be this disappointing? I ordered Turkish eggs - served with the cheapest bread, no chili oil, and eggs nowhere near poached. The Eggs Benedict were just as bad: instead of proper hollandaise, they used a cheap salad dressing. It’s such a shame, because the location is great and the terrace is spacious, but the food quality does not match the setting at all. Really bad

1. There’s a good amount of space, and the crowd is often made up of people working or studying, so you won’t feel out of place with your laptop. 2. However, it can get a little too loud at times, which might be distracting if you need a quieter environment for focus. The noise level is not unusual for coffee shops, but if you’re sensitive to sound, it could be an issue 3. The coffee itself is decent—not exceptional, but reliably good for a workday pick-me-up. 4. On the plus side, the café is vegan-friendly, offering plant-based options for both drinks and snacks, which is a big plus for those with dietary preferences or restrictions. ( I am not vegan).

Even though I was there less than 30 min before their closing time, they served me warmly. The apple cake was delicious. And for the coffee I only have good words, one of the best coffees in Vienna!
Sonia S — Google review
3,50 for a very short espresso is wild- especially as I’m guessing they mainly have students coming in. 7 bucks for a coconut water is no joke either. Location is convenient as it’s close to uni and ubahn and has an outdoor seating area too.
LemLem O — Google review
Marvelous no frills coffee shop right in the center of the city. Easily accessible from so many hotels in the historic area. The barista’s make a wonderful cappuccino and the croissants are delish!
John K — Google review
Unfortunately, this place is not customer-friendly. I can understand reserving tables for people who use laptops and even the 1.5-hour time limit is acceptable, but completely removing power outlets makes no sense. It’s impossible to sit comfortably, and the unnecessary rules make you feel stressed. You can’t even charge your phone. On top of that, a single shot of espresso costs €3.5 and the coffee is not impressive at all. Under these conditions, the cafés next door or the nearby Starbucks are much more reasonable and comfortable options.
Zenta — Google review
The café is very beautiful, the staff are wonderful, the location is great, and the coffee is delicious. Highly recommended!
Badr — Google review
Really one of the best coffees in town, next to my regulars Vogel, Pirate and the tiny place in the Palais F. In the Innenstadt near Freyburg Even my Croissant was warm!!

Cafe
Cafe Weidinger is a cozy and popular Viennese coffee house located away from the tourist-heavy areas. The old-style interior with worn furniture and unblemished formica tables creates a nostalgic atmosphere, making it a must-see for those seeking an authentic experience. The cafe is known for its misanthropic waiters, relaxed ambiance perfect for conversations and reading, as well as occasional literary readings.
One of my favourite spots in Vienna. Some reviews here talking about rudeness of waiters here but I think they are actually just a little slow and not ignoring you on purpose. A great place to relax and have a beer or two or enjoy a coffee and some food. Laid back vibe reminiscent of the Whirling-in-Rags!
Harry — Google review
This is a place where you can truly feel the essence of old stories, nostalgic vibes, and the passage of time. The ambiance may feel a bit outdated, but it adds to the overall charm and creates a pleasant atmosphere. I encountered some genuinely kind and welcoming people during my visit. The caffé itself is typical of those found outside the city center—simple yet authentic.
Mateja K — Google review
This place is not worth it, the stuff is so unpolite, i went with my boyfriend, we sit and wait for one hour. Nobody try to get close to us and give us the menu. Other people enter and they get serve but we didn’t. In the end when we decided to leave they look at us like they were happy we were leaving. In any moment we were disrespectful. I felt really dicriminated.
Mildred V — Google review
I'm surprised that some people have had bad experience with waiters, I've been here a couple of times and the waiter has been helpful and charming! We only had ham and eggs and a melange which was great. The place is a bit (very!) shabby but that kind of lends to it's charm, it's a real time-warp. The gents toilet on the other hand should be condemned! Overall cosy and welcoming.
Steve B — Google review
We ordered tea and hot chocolate after a cild day, it was nice and cozy. The only downside for me is that they don't accept credit, **only cash**.
Noa S — Google review
"I absolutely loved the service here—warm, kind, and authentically Austrian. The highlight was the lovely elderly grandma who does the cooking; her dishes felt like true homemade comfort food. My 3-year-old was particularly fond of the place, and it’s easy to see why. Highly recommended for a genuine and heartwarming experience!"
Zahra M — Google review
Actually very good coffee! A nice waiter. And lovely courtyard. I'll definitely come again.
Natalia M — Google review
Café Weidinger too is a real Viennese institution. An absolute must-see, cozy, old-style, popular, shabby Viennese coffee house, with the obligatory misanthropic waiters. All in all, a real time machine! The relaxed atmosphere lends itself to hours of conversation and reading. If you’re in the mood for games, they have Carom billiards tables and a Viennese-style bowling alley. Literary readings are common here, and you may even recognize the interior from Jem Cohen’s movie Museum Hours. Café Weidinger is WORTH EVERY DETOUR!

Coffee roasters
Jonas Reindl Coffee Roasters is a local, independent roaster with three branches across town, the original being at Schottentor. They roast their beans in-house and offer a pour over/hand pour filter drip option. The coffee texture using this method is closer to tea with floral/fruity notes. The warm and welcoming interior attracts both studious individuals and social groups. Customers can also purchase affordable 250g bags of beans to take home.
On our last day in Vienna, we were looking for something special and delicious – and we found it! The coffee was amazing – sweet, nutty, and full of flavor. We had a cappuccino and a flat white, both were excellent. We loved it so much that we bought some beans to try at home. Highly recommended!
Benny B — Google review
Lovely spot, and definitely some of the best coffee in the city. Service was pretty slow when it got busy, but they were really friendly at least. Two people running the entire place on a busy day just isn’t enough, when they’re both making drinks and taking orders. I found the coffee pretty expensive, compared to Amsterdam and London, but it seems to be that way in most third-wave places in Vienna.
Sam B — Google review
Super good americano and also vanilla croissant. Barista was very friendly too 🤍 There’s plenty of space and the street is quite calm, which makes the experience cozy on a chill morning.
Sonia S — Google review
cute place, lacking the attention for the details… during the quiet hours barista serving coffee in cups like that is totally understandable. also, to your attention a large americano… a “no, thank you, let’s look for a better place” from me next time
Natalie — Google review
Such a lovely café, definitely my all-time favorite in Vienna. The atmosphere is so calm, the staff is just lovely, and the food is not only absolutely amazing but also such a fair price! So worth going there; it's also a great study spot! I definitely recommend their matcha, it's the best.
Ray — Google review
Excellent coffee shop. We stopped by for a quick afternoon pick me up. The service was friendly, and the coffee was outstanding. Definitely a must visit in Vienna.
Jenner D — Google review
You gotta go! Seriously, best coffee ever... I'm Brazilian, so I know my stuff ;) Totally worth it, they roast the beans right there (smells amazing, the whole block!) and the selection is awesome.
Carlos J — Google review
Every time I come I get absolutely exquisite coffee. Best in Vienna because it is predictably perfect every single visit over the years
