Heritage Hill is a significant area in Grand Rapids, Michigan, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and known for its 1,300 historic properties representing over 60 architectural styles. The neighborhood faced challenges in the late 1960s and early 1970s when there were plans to demolish much of it for urban renewal. However, residents formed the Heritage Hill Association and successfully prevented these demolitions.

Hotel
The Amway Grand Plaza, Curio Collection by Hilton is a luxurious hotel located in downtown Grand Rapids. The newly renovated Celeste Salon & Spa offers a range of beauty and wellness services, with indoor and outdoor relaxation spaces, steam rooms, saunas, and access to the hotel's pool and fitness center. The hotel boasts traditional rooms with scenic views and complimentary Wi-Fi, as well as five restaurants for dining options.
Lovely views, beautiful food, and everything you need on-site. Plus who else has lighted steam resistant mirrors in their bathrooms? Also very quiet because the rooms are so well-insulted. Staff are super nice. Valet treats you like royalty. Nice decor. Beds are so comfortable! It's all very fun and highly recommended.
Rachel B — Google review
This is a great hotel. My wife and I have stayed here several times over the years, mostly for work conferences. The location is perfect for shopping of exploring different restaurants downtown. If you are a runner or like taking walks along the river front, this is a perfect spot. I highly recommend the river view rooms for the view of the sunset alone. The rooms have small bathrooms and the towels were not as plush as would have expected, but the view is amazing.
Daniel M — Google review
The bars and restaurants within this hotel are incredible and the service matches, don’t get me wrong. The valet service was also one of a kind and helped us with a special circumstance to accommodate. But the great service and accommodation ended there. Be careful of what room you book. Most don’t come with anything often considered to be standard: no microwave, no ice bucket, no refrigerator. I can expect all of these things at a basic holiday inn for $200/night, so I definitely didn’t expect to not have them at a hotel I paid $400 for. Lastly, we ordered food to be delivered to the hotel. We got back from our event too late one of the nights to eat within the designated restaurant hours (understandable! It was a Tuesday.) The food got delivered but we didn’t get a single notification of such from the front desk; not even a phone call. It wasn’t until we called the place of business we ordered from that they told us it was delivered 15 minutes prior. When I went and asked the front desk the gentleman informed me it was “my job to check on that”. Still feel like he could have picked up the phone to call. Overall, not what I’d expect at all from such a beautiful and amazing looking hotel; especially for the price.
Kelli B — Google review
This is a nice hotel in the heart of downtown. There is plenty of places to eat and enjoy yourself in the immediate surroundings. It is a short walk from the Ford Presidential Library, and about a 10 minute walk from Grand Rapids New Holland Brewing location and other unique shops and dining locations. The rooms are descent sized, clean and quiet. We stayed in room 2181 which had nice floor to ceiling windows on two walls with a nice view of the city. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway with plenty to do, this is a fun place to try.
Travis M — Google review
I have been staying here with my wife for a long time. Customer service quality has let me down lately. Valet is awesome. Front desk is not polite and condescending. Cant take towels from pool to rooms is very Cannot order drinks to the room. No late check out each time i ask for one. Edited, (reason at the end of review): Spa never answer phone calls. I cant say this enough but nobody can beat Four Seasons and Waldorf Astoria (I know its part of Hilton). But at least Amway should try to beat JW Marriot across street customer service. Lastly, General Manager refuses to call me to discuss these issues. Edited 10/15/25 “The General Manager reached out to me on the very same day, and I could really sense his genuine concern about how I was treated and the poor service we experienced. It’s clear that he cares deeply about his customers and is committed to making things right. I appreciate his efforts and look forward to returning soon”.
Victor H — Google review
This is a nice hotel and it's right at the heart of the city. You can easily walk to the local hot spots or can a short ride. The rooms are a bit small for my liking and in an antique style. Everything this else, amenities, service, etc. is great. I would come back again.
Aaron P — Google review
I've stayed at the Amway twice now for GrandCon and it was a wonderful experience both times. The rooms are always clean and I love that they have a complimentary refrigerator because of all the delicious restaurants in the area. It's a gorgeous place and I just love being in that building. Highly recommended. Next year I'll try to take pictures and update.

Disappointing and Unaccommodating Stay We stayed here while attending a convention and had a really disappointing experience. First, we were not given the room we requested, and when we asked about it, staff told us all those rooms were already taken due to a busy week. Then, the hotel bar was completely closed off for a different private convention, and when we tried to order drinks to take up to our room, we were told we couldn’t because we didn’t have a seat in the bar area even though we were unable due to another scheduled event. It felt unwelcoming and poorly managed, especially for a well decorated hotel that regularly hosts conventions. We expected much better hospitality and communication for paying guests, and have had a great experience in the past. Would not recommend staying here if you’re attending an event and expect to be treated fairly.

The spa phlōt in at least 300 characters: Soothing, relaxing, and rejuvenating, the spa phlōt is a great place to go if you're looking for some peace and quiet. The menu offers a variety of treatments that are sure to leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated.
Wow! Great clean refreshing experience. Would definitely recommend the fire and ice. Will be booking again for their float session.
Erin W — Google review
The private room with the sauna and cold plunge was nice. We had one hour to rotate between the two experiences. They provide sandals and a towel and the room has a shower. They provide blow dryers in a separate area when you are done. The cold plunge was about 45 degree and the sauna was 150.
Zoe Z — Google review
Just leaving my first float and so upset. The shower afterwards was absolutely miserable. The temperature was swinging between blazing hot and bitter cold the entire time and something in the wall was clunking. The staff said, “sorry you had a bad experience at the end, hope you have a good weekend”. They obviously have all sorts of problems from plumbing to customer service. Not remotely worth it.
Ama N — Google review
Had a wonderful experience today at Phlot with a 2-person Fire & Ice. The atmosphere was friendly, welcoming, and very relaxing. The cold plunge and sauna temperatures were perfect for us and the room had everything that we needed. We left feeling great, and can't wait to return!

Rest, relax, recover indeed! Loved it, can’t wait to go back. Felt like a weightless meditation. Let your mind wonder 💭
Bailey B — Google review
Super staff, wonderful service. The phlot is amazing. I have multiple sclerosis, and too hot or too cold is miserable. The water being body temp made it pleasant. Such a relaxing service. Helps with achy muscles, tension, and stretches your spine. Helping align your body for better mental and physical health.

Always a delightful experience. I’ve been going to phlōt for years, and I’m always impressed by the cleanliness, the futuristic options, and the complete comfort regardless of which experience I’m participating in. I choose total sensory deprivation, but how cool are the lights?? And the soothing sounds available make relaxing that much easier to do! Staff is so kind, accommodating, and super helpful! It can seem expensive, but it’s beyond worth the luxury! Highly recommend!!
Timothy P — Google review
Place is clean that’s one plus , the lights in tank aren’t connect to room lights so just when you get in you have to get out again. Floor are VERY slippy from the moment you start. Idea to put better mats in there before someone slips as you also have no safety rails. A small shelf that can be reached from tank would be an idea for ear buds. Thats another trip out of tank. Also i paid for an hour. I got out early before the hour , they didn’t ask was I finished or was I going back in. They just cleaned the room. This place is not what I thought it would be. Very very disappointing.

The center's team consists of dedicated doctors and licensed therapists who are currently accepting new patients.
My 1st time at Beaubien was wonderful! A cozy, welcoming vibe. My massage therapist Gen was amazing! I have recurring neck issues from tension & I felt like a weight was lifted after my massage. So relaxed. I can't wait to return to try other wellness services. My friend and I plan to try a yoga class too! 🧘💜
Amy Y — Google review
Can’t thank them enough! Beaubien was able to get me in same day when I was experiencing severe back pain during pregnancy. They were a lifesaver because three other facilities I called couldn’t make anything work but Beaubien did! Cynthia was my massage therapist and she was amazing. She was so sweet and had such a calming demeanor and I felt so relaxed. Her massage was fantastic! I loved the pregnancy table too! That made the massage so much more comfortable. I will definitely be back!

Absolutely perfect. A beautiful blend of singing bowls and yoga. I truly felt healed after this session. The hot stones assisted in completely taking me to a place of zen. I will be back. Thank you!

I have visited twice now. Once for a massage, the second time for an IV infusion. I left both times feeling so much better! Thank you to the caring wonderful staff! I will continue to make Beaubian a regular part of my sell-care!
Nicki T — Google review
The staff there are wonderful, very friendly and informative. I have had massages with Cynthia and Ashley and both were extremely relaxing with the right amount of pressure. Both are great about checking how the message is going and be aware of problem tense areas. Highly recommended!
Megan A — Google review
I have known one of the instructors, Marla, for years. She is extremely detailed and caring as an instructor and provides the most relaxing and intense classes. I will continue my membership for years to come.
Jamie S — Google review
Response: Marla, you raised your voice at me, flailed your arms in the air, shrugged your shoulders several times at me in the lobby, not letting me get a word in, judging me and others for working in medical insurance where I’ve worked for a decade. I actually implement software to connect patients with mental health providers and we do this with over 50 softwares but you didn’t care and judged everyone harshly when you and your mother never had any services with us. I sat in the car trembling for 30 min, you undid the good acupuncture experience I had just had and yet you are delusional enough to think me leaving is some dig at you. Lady, this is self-care and any other customer would have done worse. Then you continue to pester me through texts after I asked you to stop. You continue to make unkind remarks which shows your apology is insincere! I am still showing you kindness by not actually listing the things you said. Original note: I originally left these people a neutral 3 star review, even after a terrible experience with Marla. She continues to send me unsolicited text messages, making herself the victim in the situation. How can you say “keep beaubien out of it” when your ill behavior occurred at beaubien? Need I remind you that not only am I the customer, I spent 3500 there last year. I chose not to put the entire story out and this wasn’t enough.

Nestled on the fourth floor of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, Celeste Salon & Spa is a fresh addition to the wellness scene, having opened its doors in 2023. This luxurious spa boasts cutting-edge facilities that include a hair salon, nail salon, and five serene treatment rooms.
Recently, I had gotten a facial by Brendalee Church and the experience and results were outstanding. Her professionalism was excellent as I felt very welcoming and comfortable throughout the whole process. I admired her knowledge in her field whenever I had certain questions about skin care treatment. Truly one of the best estheticians I have come across by. I would highly recommend anybody to book her for any of your facial needs.

Megan was my therapist for my session and is soo super talented! I had a hot stone with aromatherapy and it was honestly the absolute best! I would highly recommend booking with her! Bummer I live on the West Coast and can be a routine client.

I recently came in for a facial with Brendalee Church and had an amazing experience! The spa is beautiful & welcoming and I could spend all day there relaxing! Brendalee gave me the best facial that left my skin feeling clean and glowing for days! She walked me through each step letting me know the product being used and what the benefits were! Such a relaxing experience because of her! I will definitely be back for a spa day & to explore other services offered!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Celeste Salon and Spa located at the Amway Grand Plaza hotel, where I had my haircut done by the talented Brooke. I am absolutely thrilled with the results! My hair feels incredibly healthy and soft after the cut, and the products they use have an amazing scent. I couldn't resist buying some of their products during my visit. I highly recommend Celeste Hair and Salon for a fantastic hair experience!
Stephanie C — Google review
Worst Spa experience in 69 years. They changed my appt to suit their picture taking day and after a 90 minute massage with ice cold lotion I was placed in the extremely cold 'Relaxation Room' to wait for 50 minutes on a very uncomfortable col 'bench' until I had to get up and get dressed because I was so cold and could'nt use the sauna because I had massage lotion all over and no one would tell me when my Anti Aging Facial would happen, which I then didn't have time to complete because I have to have a breathing treatment every 5 hours. There was NO hospitality shown to me and I was treated like cattle being led to the right room. What a disappointing experience to spend so much money to be treated like an inconvenience instead of a guest. Don't bother going if you've been to a real spa before. This is nothing like a professional spa and if they are a OK treating customers like this then they are completely misunderstanding what hospitality and comfort are all about.
Mimi C — Google review
My 90 Swedish massage was just what I needed to enjoy some relaxation. Dionte was an experienced, personable and an extremely professional masseuse. The price for the massage was very reasonable and it includes use of the pool, hot tub and sauna 🧖‍♀️ I’ll definitely be back to enjoy the heated massage table, the warm aromatic oil and my music of choice. I’ll be back to Celeste 💝

UPDATE: The services provided were amazing. The new location was very nice, clean, and updated. The amenities offered were nice and well above and beyond, and the management and staff were excellent. The manager also made everything right with us from past experiences and assured us it would not happen again. They also thanked us for still giving them a try. We even decided to make a few additional appointments because the stellar service we were fortunate enough to experience with the team at Celeste Salon & Spa. Last year, I had my first ever experience with the spa. I made a couples massage reservation months in advance as part of my wife’s birthday. When it came within a week of our appointment, we never got a confirmation as the spa advised we would. So we called and they claimed to not have the reservation, and, of course, they were booked weeks out. When we finally got to the date of the rescheduled session, the massage package we originally booked was somehow unavailable and we had to take what was available. Fast forward to now, my wife thought we should try again. Made a reservation for a specific day and time. Got the email confirmation and the reservation was for the week prior and the selected massage package was less than the time that we paid for. When we called to inquire why this happened, the staff informed us they were having those pesky computer problems again and changed our reservation to an earlier date for availability and they only had the shorter session available that day so they defaulted to the shorter session due to time restraints. Not sure why the staff can’t seem to schedule anything correctly or why they alter services after you’ve already paid, but it really makes us not want to return. Very disappointing.
