Asian fusion restaurant
Maru Sushi & Grill is a Michigan-based chain of Japanese fusion restaurants with several locations across the state, including one in Grand Rapids. The restaurant offers unique sushi rolls, hibachi eats, craft cocktails, and delectable desserts. The Grand Rapids location is situated in the East Hills neighborhood on Cherry Street and features patio seating. The restaurant blends traditional cuisine with modern touches to create incredible dishes.
It was our first time trying maru and we had an amazing experience. Our waitress Sophie was so friendly and helpful with us. Thank you for making my husbands birthday so great!
Yaya Q — Google review
Service is a little slow but friendly. Food was good for sushi. Wife's chicken was cool so it was remade and taken off bill without asking. Good customer service.
Joe — Google review
The Detroit location was our go-to, so we were bummed when it closed…but the Grand Rapids location is just as good! Beautifully crafted sushi, packed with flavor, and served in an upscale, welcoming atmosphere. So glad we have another location to enjoy!
Cecilia W — Google review
Love this spot for date night! All of the appetizers are amazing but the crab rangoon dip is definitely a favorite. We always end up ordering multiple of the crouching tiger specialty roll because it is THAT good. The restaurant is typically full on weekends so I would recommend making a reservation, however, typically you can make an online reservation 30 minutes to an hour prior to when you want to eat and they were able to seat us immediately. Service has always been great, but plan on 1 to 2 hours for dinner just because of the time it takes to make each of the rolls. The quality of the food is definitely worth the wait. Best sushi restaurant in Grand Rapids hands down!
Tyler R — Google review
Nice experience. Wife and I went here for our anniversary. Rolls were great! 2 with a couple of apps was a perfect meal. Zen garden with gin was a pretty and tasty cocktail 🍸. Will be back
Joshua S — Google review
My husband and I went here on a Monday evening and it was lovely! My husband got a specialty roll and I got Salmon nigiri and gyoza. The sushi was good quality and flavorful. They also had some speciality lemonades and I tried the Mango flavor. It was delicious! Our waitress was kind and answered all our questions. Our food took about 25 minutes to come out which was a downside to our experience but overall we had a great time. We sat outside on their deck which was nice. I would recommend this place to anyone in GR!
Kayla F — Google review
Awesome spot! Melina (sp?) Was a wonderful server and recommended one of the best roles I've had in along time the Mangalorian. Absolutely would reccy. Soooooooo good. Reminded me of Aco Pulco. The mango cilantro combo was exquisite. ALSO THE YELLOWTAIL CRUDO SET WAS TO DIE FOR.

Maru serves colorful, flavorful rolls with that POW vibrant sushi look. Patio’s excellent, servers are solid, and it’s the best sushi on the East Side.

Gastropub

Asian fusion restaurant
Rockwell Republic is a vibrant gastropub located in the historic Heartside District of Grand Rapids. This trendy hangout offers a blend of Asian and New American cuisine, featuring dishes made with locally sourced ingredients and regional farm produce. The stylish two-story setting boasts high ceilings, exposed-brick walls, and an elegant screened-in lounge for outdoor dining. Guests can indulge in succulent steak, freshly made sushi, handcrafted cocktails, craft beers, and wines.
We came here for dinner but they weren’t serving what we wanted so we ended up just getting a drink and an app this time. The service was also taking a longer time than usual. Perhaps we will visit again soon, but everything was just a little off on this visit, EXCEPT FOR THE RANGOONS which are always delectable.
Kaylin — Google review
I want to start by saying the service was beyond exceptional. I will go back for that if nothing else. Thankfully though they are more than their service. The atmosphere was incredible with a live jazz band playing at a volume that allowed you to have a conversation with those with you, but also very much enjoy their playing. Made for an outstanding evening. I have mixed feelings with our food. We went with sushi and it was good. Very flavorful, but nearly impossible to eat as almost every piece fell apart just trying to get it off the plate. Getting the very large pieces in your mouth was just not an option without using your other hand to catch half of it and stuffing it in all caveman style. Overall we really liked the place and it certainly sits near the top of our list for return trips to Grand Rapids.
Scott V — Google review
We visited for your first date night service. Food was good, needed more seasoning. We had the charcuterie board, steak, and scallops. It was very bland/simple. Mashed potatoes were dry. Cheese plate was good, minus the turkey. Apple skillet dessert was good a bit runny, would have preferred a thicker sauce. Overall the experience was great and we will definitely do it again.
Alicia S — Google review
Went here for the first time. We were lucky enough to be there during happy hour. I got a Raspberry Margarita and Blackberry Perrin. We got sweet potato fries and the shrimp ahi roll. The food was SO good. The sushi was definitely in my top 3!! The server is extremely good at his job. Never wrote anything down, but our orders were always exactly correct. Can't wait to go back. The only slight downside is that the tables are close to each other, and the walkway is a little tight. I am very fluffy though. ☺️
Heather L — Google review
Fantastic food and drinks! They have a decent amount of indoor/outdoor seating. Rockwell Republic also has some great deals throughout the week. They do tend to get pretty busy and can often have a long wait time, but are well worth it. We’ve always had fantastic service and are always excited to return.
Chase H — Google review
Excellent place all around. Ordered the guacamole and a sushi roll both on happy hour and both were excellent. Service was impeccable. Our server Shane was always in communication with us while he was in-between serving other customers. He was also extremely friendly and helped us with finding places to go around town! Great place to start out our Grand Rapids trip.
Alison C — Google review
Food was wonderful and fresh. Takeout portions are smaller than dine in but overall the quality is top notch. All of the food was delicious. Only complaints are that we ordered the 3 taco meal and only received 2 tacos & that we asked for crostini and naan and received crostini and chips with the beer cheese dip. Also thankful that they were one of the few places that kept their normal hours in the mist of this water situation.
Toni J — Google review
We came for lunch during the week and absolutely enjoyed our experience. The food was delicious, the server was professional and friendly, and the atmosphere was great. We will definitely be back!

Ju Sushi & Lounge is a cosmopolitan choice for those seeking creative sushi rolls and Asian-fusion dishes, along with unique martinis and sake. Located in Grand Rapids, this spot offers some of the finest handmade sushi, sashimi, and other Asian-fusion fare.
What a great experience. I was working out of town a couple days and didn't get a chance to eat for a day. I was able to sneak in 30 minutes to stop somewhere (a client recommended this place). I stopped in and let the bartender know I was in a hurry, asking what they had that could be made quickly and she made some recommendations. The dish was amazing, a good amount of food, and it came out quickly. The server actually made a point to get me my bill right away so I could dine and dash. Will definitely be back!
Ben B — Google review
Always FRESH! Great specials, creative rolls and options. Service is stellar, all of the people working here know the assignment. Atmosphere is sexy sitting next to the fireplace and more family style in the open seating areas, so the beat of both worlds. You can take a date or your grandma out to eat anytime- assuming they like sushi. Now on another note their fried rice is super good. You can get all the add-ins meat no meat whatever You like. The drinks are good and stiff, very creative too.
Monica S — Google review
We had an incredible experience at Ju Sushi Lounge last night! The quality of the sashimi was absolutely next level… each cut was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. You can tell they take real pride in the freshness and presentation of every dish. But what truly made our night was our server, Cam. Not only was he attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we were taken care of the entire evening… I'm pretty sure I saw him save a cat from a tree on his way to refill our drinks. A true hero in every sense. If you're looking for top-tier sushi and standout service, Ju Sushi Lounge is the place. We’ll definitely be back!
Kaitlyn D — Google review
Been here twice for lunch, solo each time. First time I was unimpressed, but I've heard good things, so I thought maybe it was a fluke. Second time was more of the same though. Service was nice, but slower than ideal for a quick lunch. Food was truly uninspiring. Both times the sushi rice was undercooked. Fish tasted low quality. Miso soup was weak and used firm instead of soft tofu. Atmosphere was fine, but felt a little dated. If someone were to suggest going here in the future, I would suggest other alternative options as I'd rather spend my time and money somewhere else.
Megan A — Google review
I expected friendlier service. The waitress could not be bothered with questions about the menu or forthcoming about the menu, drinks often sat empty. When she did come to our table she left very quickly not to be seen again for quite a while. It was not busy at all.
Jamie P — Google review
They have best Japanese ginger salad and sushi. The dressing was different and I did not care as it was so good.
Claire G — Google review
Sat at the bar and was guided through a savory 3-item meal
Clark H — Google review
This place has really gone downhill. They still charge and present themselves like a nice restaurant, but the experience does not match. Servers in hooters length short shorts and skirts, sushi chefs wearing novelty ramen shirts (no beard or hair net nor hat I’ll add), and lofi YouTube videos with ads on the TV ruin the atmosphere. Tried calling to place an order and got no answer. Called twice more with a few minutes in between and still nothing, just a busy tone. Walked in to find the place not busy. The hostess greeted us with an eye roll and an AirPod in, and showed no concern when we told her the phone was not working. The bartender was clearly stressed, short with us, and treated another guest the same way. Never saw a manager do a table touch but maybe they were also dressed too casually to recognize. The place also needs cleaning and repairs. They still have a “Best Restaurant of 2014” plaque on the wall, which might be the last time the stainless steel around the bar was polished.

Fuji Yama Asian Bistro, situated in northeast Grand Rapids, is a spacious Japanese restaurant that presents flaming hibachi grills and generous portions of sushi combos. With an extensive menu featuring sushi, hibachi, and bento meals, along with some traditional Chinese and Thai dishes, this establishment provides a wide range of options for diners.
Amazing food as always!! Sushi, ramen, Thai dishes... it's ALL excellent here & reasonably priced. That ginger salad dressing is Everythaaang! The manager Wyn is such a nice & friendly guy every time we go too! We don't go here that often just because it's far from where we live but he still remembers us by name! Highly recommend!
Jacie D — Google review
We visited this place for my daughters 16th birthday. The service itself was great, the two waitresses were attentive and fast. We are greeted right away and our reservation was recognized, we did have a wait, due to our group size but did not mind. The hibachi experience was not the best, yet not the worst we have seen. The food was pretty flavorful. Portion sizes are unbelievably bigger than average, everyone in our group had leftovers which was good. Price was fair, we would go back.
Kiah S — Google review
Me and some of my friends came here after doing a photoshoot, and it’s safe to say we were definitely not disappointed. I ordered the Basil Fried Rice with chicken, beef, and shrimp. Let me tell you there wasn’t a single grain of rice left in the bowl. The waitress we had was so kind. Sadly, I didn’t get her name. The other great thing about this place is that the prices on most of the dishes didn’t break the bank! I don’t live in Grand Rapids, but will definitely be going back to this restaurant whenever I am able to!
Evan H — Google review
I’ve visited this place a few times and have never been disappointed! Sometimes there can be a long wait, but it’s just because the food is so good, that everyone wants to eat here! We started our visit at the bar while we waited for our table, and we ordered some wine and a soju spritzer- both very good. We got a table and ordered a bunch of rolls- honestly can’t remember exactly what we ordered but they were all good! We’ll be back for sure. EDIT 1) We came back for the Volcano Bowl for Two (*BLUE : Blue Curacao, Bacardi 151, Gin, Vodka, PJ, Sprite) which was delicious and worth getting if you like to share a sweet thing with your “sweet thing” 😝. We ordered the Crab Rangoons- which we almost always do, and even though sometimes you might have to send them back because they’re still frozen, they’re always apologetic about it and will bring them back to you piping hot (worth it!). We also ordered some soups: Sizzling Rice Soup (Sautéed broth with chicken, shrimp, and a rice patty on the side) and Miso Soup- both good (I love miso soup so it’s something I almost always order when I get sushi). We almost always return here for the Pineapple Fried Rice (With chicken & shrimp) as it’s his favorite. Of course, he enjoyed it! I ordered a couple rolls: Golden Roll (my favorite roll here): (Mango, spicy salmon, avocado and shrimp tempura, wrapped w. soy paper & served w. mango sauce & eel sauce) and the Sweetheart Roll (Crab salad, shrimp & avocado topped w. fresh tuna & drizzled w. honey sauce). Both rolls were good- exactly what I expected. We’ll be back! Edit 2) UPDATE: this visit we got the miso soup again, the Shrimp Shumai (Shrimp dumpling) which were pretty good, but not my ultimate favorite. If it’s something you normally like, I’d suggest ordering because they were good enough, but otherwise I’d recommend the crab Rangoons over those. We ordered the shrimp and filet minion hibachi, as well as an order of pineapple fried rice - a regular thing we order- served in a pineapple! Always good, according to my bf. I got sushi: the Pink Lady (Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado wrapped w. soy paper) and the Mango Hawaii Roll (Salmon, avocado, mango, wasabi, caviar, served w. spicy mango sauce)- both amazing. I love trying all the rolls here! I’ve not gotten one I didn’t like. We love this place! We’ll be back with more updates 😎
Kaylin — Google review
Meal was ok I usually love Fuji Yama’s noodles but this time they were lacking in flavor as well as the rice was very bland! Chicken and filet were ok nothing amazing. Don’t know what happened but the food quality definitely changes and the ginger sauce seemed a little water downed
Staphany J — Google review
Fast get seated even though busy. Delicious food, large portions. EXCELLENT RAMEN. Duck to die for. Absolutely top notch. Great sushi. Highly recommend
Becca N — Google review
We went for my daughter’s 9th birthday! It was a bit tight for space around the grill for 13 of us, but Overall we loved the food-you get ALOT- the shrimp turned out overcooked and tough and the gentleman accidentally forgot to make my father in laws chicken with the rest of our meat. He apologized and made a double serving which was very kind. They made my daughter feel very special and kept it very entertaining for the other kids as well (as young a 20 months old) The kids loved their noodles and the baby ate all my miso soup!
Felicia M — Google review
I just wanted to start off with saying how friendly the staff are. Super kind and helpful, and answering all of my questions about the food. On the other hand, the food was absolutely fantastic. Everything I ordered was so delicious I came back the next day. My favorite part about this place is the price. I have not seen sushi and roll prices this cheap anywhere besides Japan. I believe this is my first 5 star review, but this place deserves it for the quality of food vs price.

Sushi Kuni is a contemporary establishment that offers a diverse menu of Asian-fusion dishes, specialty rolls, and sushi. Situated in a modern setting with private tatami rooms, the restaurant has received high praise for its personable service and cozy atmosphere. Guests particularly appreciate the delectable food options and generous portion sizes.
Nice little place with few selection of different Asian foods. The spicy pork wasn't bad. Could have been little more spicy. Little disappointed that kimchi didn't automatically come with the Korean food.

They were the best in the area. I appreciate them so much for their many years of service and sushi. The Ole Smokey was my favorite and even after they took it off the menu they would make it for me. Some of the best staff and sushi around. Thank you.

The food was pretty good and the service was awesome! Too bad they were charging extra for the soup refill! The Sushi was fresh and overall, a nice place to dine (Korean & Japanese food) in GR area.
에바이안 — Google review
I've been eating lunch here once a week for the last 6 months and it's always great. The decor and interior design are nice and the place is quiet and peaceful. The food is excellent and they have a good selection (plus they actually carry some of the more uncommon items that I've had trouble getting elsewhere). The staff is incredible. They are polite, attentive, and have put in extra effort to remember what I typically order and what I like. It's an exceptional level of service and it made me a regularly returning customer. The quality of the food and the tastes of each dish remind me of my vacation in Japan. The dressing on the house salad is delightful. The miso soup is always the perfect temperature. The unagi is the best I've had in the states, only falling behind what I had in Japan. The quail egg shooters are so good that you'll order one and want to order another when they come back around to check how you're doing. The takoyaki always hit the spot, the spicy garlic edamame have just the right amount of heat, the sunomono is balanced and has a nice variety. I've ordered more chirashi/donburi than I can count and I've enjoyed every single one. I could go on and on and give some kind of praise for everything I've tried on the menu, but I'll stop here. Sushi Kuni is worth a visit.

This place is literally the most amazing asian fusion sushi place we have ever been to. The portions are generous and the sushi is amazing. We had the same waitress twice and she was fantastic each time. Great service and greater food. Well worth the visit!

My husband and I went to Sushi Kuni for the first time and everything was delicious! Servers were very attentive and kind. We got 3 speciality rolls and they were all so good! Monkey roll (middle) was my favorite out of those 3 but the michigan roll (right) and crab mania (left middle) were both very tasty. We also got the uni roll (2 in the corner) and spicy salmon roll (far left) and my husband and I both agreed the spicy salmon roll was so simple but SO good! Out of all the rolls, it was our favorite!! Would recommend and visit again!
Kelly K — Google review
Sadest place with worst service in GR. Place was almost empty, with 2 tables occupied, now I know why. 5 minutes to bring menus, than we waited 15 minutes watching waitress wandering aimlessly in the back of the restaurant, managing not to look once in our direction. So after 20 minutes we werent even asked about drinks. At that point we left and went to the next sushi place Also Nigiri prices are highest ive seen in GR. Most at $10 for two pieces.

Mikado Sushi Restaurant, located on 28th Street in Grand Rapids, is a charming Japanese eatery with a traditional ambiance. Boasting over 25 years of experience in Japanese cuisine, Mikado offers an extensive menu featuring a wide variety of sushi options and house specialty rolls, along with other classic Japanese dishes. The restaurant has garnered praise for its friendly staff, inviting atmosphere, and delicious food at reasonable prices.
I've been in GR for a while and I miss good Japanese food. But I've looked in many places and still haven't found it. Until I came to eat here Everything is very fresh. Use good things and make it delicious. The atmosphere is very friendly. Luckily today came when there weren't many customers. So I got a special menu from the owner. This is probably my regular shop now.

Bliss inducing sushi. The flavor balance is otherworldly. Eating here is a transcendental experience. This is my first experience with fresh wasabi. I'm so grateful for this meal. I can honestly say, I won't be the same. My experience of Japanese food has truly been up-leveled.

Food was very good. The spicy pork bulgogi was not too spicy and very tender. The mixed tempura was great. My only issue was the the pork cutlet was little over done. The cutlet was thin and little on the crispy side. Overall, great little place.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market is a spacious food hall that offers a diverse range of culinary experiences. Visitors can explore specialty food and drink shops, attend cooking classes, and discover incubator kitchens for food startups. The market features artisanal vendors from the region, making it an ideal spot to pick up fresh ingredients for home-cooked meals or enjoy a quick lunch while sightseeing.
What an outstanding market! A culinary dream come true. I’m not sure I could keep this review to less than 6 paragraphs if I got going, so I’m going to post some photos of my weekend instead. I hope everyone has a chance to experience how wonderful this market is in person. Great Job, Keep up the outstanding work.

Assorted food vendors. Prices are pretty inflated at most places we visited. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the walleye fish and chips meal and the smoked salmon from Fishlads. I enjoyed the boneless wings from the Juju Bird and Brian was friendly. I would definitely skip tacos from Tacos El Cunado. No one was present and I ordered myself on a kiosk. The girl came back after and I asked to add lettuce and tomatoes to the tacos and she said okay. Luckily I looked before leaving and it was only beef in a tortilla. I ordered 2 tacos at 4.00 each and chips and salsa and guacamole for an additional 3.75 and somehow my order was over 17.00 . Food below subpar. I would also skip the lemonade at the Chewie Bitez as it tasted of fake powder lemonade definitely not fresh and ran over $17 for 2 without having any Boba in them, the huge brownie was also days old( dated) and extremely dry. The chocolates from Loves ran $3 per tiny piece but my kids really wanted to try them. Although they were beautiful they were extremely over priced for the quality and size. The kettle corn from Dorothy and Tony's was very good.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market is a lively food hall with a mix of local vendors and more commercial offerings. It features a cheese bar with a good variety of cheeses and a large selection of wines, making it a great stop for cheese and wine lovers. The market also includes a bakery, various food vendors, a spice shop, and a place for handmade soap, offering a nice mix of specialty items. However, some visitors might find that the market leans a bit more toward commercial products than expected, rather than purely artisanal or locally crafted goods. Still, it’s a fun place to explore, grab a bite, and shop for unique ingredients or gifts.

Crazy wide variety of food shops and restaurants. Meats and cheese, fish market, popcorn, bakery, tea and spices, ice cream. Noisy fun vibe, friendly staff, and a quieter place for eating upstairs.

Market is always a treat. Great environment, interesting food selection, international variety from entrees to desserts. Vintage Market was fun to shop too!

Very cute place. Not all places was open. I tried oysters for the 1st time. Had sushi, bought some seasons , bon bon and ice cream The ladies at the tea place wrote HBD on my cup.
Lyn L — Google review
Its a wonderful location. You can get great foods, wines, spices and more there. A couple bakeries, some restaurants, a wine store a cheese store, a butchery and a fish monger are all some of the things available inside. The prices can be pretty steep in some of the places, particularly with the fish, but thats more or less, the nature of the beast on the whole. Vendors were all great and service with a smile.

Sushi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Sushi Yama is a modest sushi spot located in the basement of McKay Tower on Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids. Despite its unassuming location, it offers an extensive menu of maki and nigiri, as well as lunch combos. The atmosphere is laid-back and casual, making it a great choice for those seeking quality sushi in a relaxed setting.
I had a Satirday night dinner here before a concert at the GLC. Couldn't recommend this place more. Such a lovely little place on the basement level. The chef was a very good guy. Can't thank him enough for the wonderful experience. The stairs down are a tad scary. I envy those of you who live in this beautiful city.

This location was a little hard to find, so I figured I would take some photos of the lobby area of the McKay Tower (This restaurant is located in the basement of this building). As a tourist I really enjoyed the scenery they constructed within the fairly congested space. The food was solid all around, if I remember correctly I ordered either the "Spicy Salmon Roll" or the "Yummi Yummi Roll". Either way as you suspect from the photo, it was delicious. Overall, I had a pleasant experience here and would definitely visit again.

Go. I’ve been going to sushiyama for almost 15 years now. It’s in an out of the way spot but has some of the best sushi in Grand Rapids. I picked this lunch combo up for $13. Lots of other variety available, you can’t go wrong!

Very cosy, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. This little sushi restaurant is tucked in the bottom floor of the Mckay Tower, right in the heart of Down Town Grand Rapids. The cooks are extremely polite and compassionate about their work, and the owner always strives to make his customers happy. Often, they'll give out treats and desserts to your table, just to make you smile. Well worth the trip. Food is fresh, filling, and delicious!

My family has been coming to this restaurant fairly regularly for a few years. In all that time, we've always had excellent fresh food and great service. We've tried sushi restaurants all over GR and this one is our current favorite. We usually get miso soup, salads with ginger dressing, AAC rolls, and sweet potato rolls. Just writing that out is making me hungry! The location also feels special and unique. I enjoy the atmosphere and plan to continue coming to the restaurant for years to come.
Kate — Google review
Stopped by this place incidentally and will be coming back! It was a quiet meal and the food was prepared fresh and quickly. I got the Pacific Roll with salmon, tuna, and avocado and both the fish and the avocado tasted of good quality. I also got a side of kimchi that tasted very good and had a good amount for the price.
Nicole L — Google review
Great sushi at a great price, can't beat it. Glad I found this place as I'm not from the area. Highly recommend , Would go again. Very nice chef who takes order, prepares and takes your order to you. Gave us free nigiri rolls, And candy . In the basement of the old bank just follow the signs. Super tasty. Kind of hidden gem you always hope to find in an unfamiliar city!

Sushi restaurant
Korean restaurant
Ato Sushi Korean & Japanese Cuisine is a cozy cafe in Grand Rapids offering a mix of classic Korean and Japanese dishes, including BBQ, noodles, sushi, and bento boxes. The family-owned spot on Monroe Ave serves up an enticing Burning Tongue Roll filled with jalapeno, cucumber, crab stick, red snapper, and masago. The menu also features the October special Bibimbap dish served in a hot bowl.
Very good spot to stop for lunch or dinner. Was in town for a conference and dropped in for dinner one night and lunch a few days later. Excellent, attentive service, very tasty food. I had a spicy tuna roll and the bulgogi box. Best ginger dressing I’ve ever had on the salad. Excellent bulgogi. You really can’t go wrong here.

This sushi spot is always worth the trip! The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and so kind—it feels like you’re being taken care of by family. The food is nothing short of AMAZING: always fresh, beautifully prepared, and bursting with flavor. You can tell how much thought and care goes into every dish, with such creative and unique ideas that make each visit exciting. From the quality of the sushi to the friendliness of the staff, everything here is top-notch. This place has truly become one of our absolute favorite restaurants, and we look forward to every visit. Highly recommend! 🍣❤️✨

Okay, I haven’t had their Sushi yet, so perhaps I should wait on this review, but i’ll edit it when I go back. I told our server I wanted a lunch special of several rolls unless she could convince me to get the October special, which was a Bibimbap dish in a hot bowl. She succeeded 😁. Didn’t regret it one bit, though I can never quite shake my menu FOMO, hence the picture of my friend’s plate 😂. Anyway, along with the delicious bowl, soup, and fried dumplings was a great atmosphere with a fun and pleasant server experience. Thanks guys!
Luke S — Google review
Normally, everyone goes for sushi or ramen at a sushi spot—but I have to admit, my go-to order at Ato Sushi is a little different . I absolutely love their bowl of sticky rice paired with their perfectly balanced kimchi, some ebi shumai, and one of those Korean potato and cheese corn dogs. So good! The place itself is pretty solid—great for grabbing a quick bite after class or work. It’s right in downtown Grand Rapids, easy to get to, and very reasonably priced. Definitely a nice little hangout spot with friends without breaking the bank.
Harshitha A — Google review
Came here for lunch with my sister. It was such a nice day so we chose to sit outside. It is right on the street so I just wanna caution people that it can get pretty loud during the day with lots of trucks and deliveries stopping and going around the surrounding businesses. We shared some shrimp shumai and a few sushi rolls. The spider roll was tasty, sushi overall tasted good. The shumai was good although I could tell they weren’t homemade. The sauce was a bit too sweet so I just added some soy sauce to balance it out. We had a nice server and it was about $70 including tip for an app and 3 sushi rolls.
Nina C — Google review
This is a nice, small sushi shop. It has a good menu and the food is great. I got a few different rolls and enjoyed them. They don't several alcohol but have quite few drinks options. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Steven W — Google review
A great little lunch/dinner date spot, especially if you are walking by Rosa Parks Circle! I love the Bento Boxes especially if you can't decide what to get (I recommend the Teriyaki chicken). You get some Tempura fried veggies, Rice, California roll, and the tasty chicken. If you want Sushi, the sushi is made fresh and delicious! You can watch them make it for you. It's a little cramped, so better if you are eating alone or with a small group.
Erik S — Google review
Crab wontons had a sauce made from ketchup. Sushi was moderate. Same price and much better portion and quality I'd suggest you head over to mizu in Holland. For 10$ more I also had an entire beef udon meal to take home with me as well. It was kinda a waste of time and money but you live and learn.

Sushi restaurant
Ginza Sushi & Ramen Bar, situated at the corner of Michigan Street and Diamond Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan, offers a contemporary and vibrant ambiance perfect for a date night. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu with options ranging from traditional beef broth pho to sushi and ramen bowls. Founded by Mr. Chen, who has over 25 years of experience in Asian cuisine, Ginza promises fresh and healthy dishes that cater to all tastes.
This place was well worth the 30 minute wait. We were seated at the bar and our bartender/server was very entertaining and served us very well. The sushi was fantastic. The Ramen was amazing and the fried rice added a nice touch. Highly recommend making a reservation!
Varun S — Google review
The food, service, and drinks were all great. Our server was friendly and attentive. I had the drink special of strawberry lemon drop and it was very good and my daughter had the regular lemon drop which she also liked. We ordered an appetizer of fried tofu which I did not care for at all, but to be fair it was my first time trying tofu and I probably just don't like any tofu. We also order three types of sushi and it was all good. The only thing I didn't care for was our seating. We came in for an early dinner so it wasn't very busy when we arrived. We were seated at a table that had booth seating connected with another table. (Kind of what you see at some fast food restaurants) We were seated right at the same booth as other customers when there were many other seats to choose from. I really don't like sitting that close to others when I'm at a restaurant. They do have nice outdoor seating. Kids get a cute pair of chop sticks.
Tammy C — Google review
If you are eating here and the weather allows it, pick a table outside. It was so relaxing, the customer service was great and our appetizer and food came out on timely manner! I got the champions ramen and it was delicious, I do recommend to eat the lobster tail ASAP otherwise it will get overcooked and chewy by just sitting on the hot broth!! My wife got a special roll and it was just full of flavor, love the tuna it had in it! Highly recommend to try this place out!

I honestly was expecting this to be so good because of the reviews but I thought it was alright. We ordered a lot off the menu it was fresh and the presentation was good but the it didn't blow my mind. We sat out on the patio and our waiter wasn't on top of our drinks or checking on us. Overall I would say it's good but not the best in GR.

Exceptional Sushi. I’ve eaten a lot of it over the years! Full of flavour, big portions, and the rice was a great consistency and temperature which not all restaurants get right. I had the “Rainbow Roll” and “Crazy Southern Roll”. My server was very attentive throughout the meal. Highly recommended.

Stopped in here for dinner tonight and was not disappointed. The food was extremely good, and was absolutely what I was looking for. Cucumber mocktail was top notch. My server was River at the bar and *chef’s kiss*. Excellent service to myself and everyone else around me! Definitely give this place a try!

Ginza is a must for anyone who likes sushi or ramen. Great food every time we go there. They consistently lose best sushi place to Maru in some kind of rigged contest as Ginza hands down is better than 90% of other sushi places. Try the Red Curry Ramen when you are there on a cold day for a warm pick me up.
Noah W — Google review
Ginza was by far the best dining experience I've had in a very long time. The service, ambiance, and food were all amazing. We ordered two appetizers, one sushi roll, and two bowls of Tonkatsu ramen. All of our dishes were a solid 10/10 in taste, presentation, and ingredient quality. We left very surprised at the cost of dining here, as the quality far surpassed the menu prices. If we lived closer, we would be there once a week. Can't reccomend this place enough.

Noodlepig is a popular spot for ramen and katsu lovers. The Zessan and Shoyu ramen are highly recommended, with the option to add spice levels for an extra kick. The hospitality at Noodlepig is exceptional, with friendly and helpful staff creating a memorable dining experience. The atmosphere is described as fun and clean, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Excellent Ramon spot!!! I think the best in GR rivals top spots in Chicago. Besides the food, staff and presumably the owner are exceptionally knowledgeable about drinks including Saki. He took extra time with me to go over each type of saki before I made my selection. Even though they had a rush coming in the atomosphere was cool and collected. Food came out quickly and we lingered for a while. Seating is casual and open kitchen watching them throw things together was entertaining. I like the ability to customize your own bowl...but honestly for myself I like everything so wish I could just pick one option and someone bring me out some deliciousness.

First time here I felt welcomed & the establishment was elegant. Owner greeted me immediately and once I looked at the menu I fell in love instantly, especially with the miso Naruto ramen and the amazing J - dogs Deep fried deliciousness on a stick❗️ Premium yet affordable food you’d see and taste in japan most def. Make sure to check out more of their adult beverages & non alcoholic ones too. Lovely place to discuss business or just to chill & create some content. Make some new memories? 🍜 🐖 🔥 Work hard & remember that kings didn’t even have access to this much at once.

Happy to see staff is knowledgeable about gluten-free options. Soy sauce is not gluten free.. but several dishes are. Pesole was “pretty good” and the pork shoulder was excellent.

More like a casual or fast food kind of vibe but the ramen was excellent. Get it with the marinated egg which is delicious. The Chashu pork is also a great topping. If you add spice though, go easy on it, I’d say go for 1 or. 2 out of 10 levels.

Dirty Chai Boba for the win! Level 4 spice is a bit owie, but the fries, gyoza & K-dog are most excellent!

Basic ramen that charges crazy prices for add ons. $4 for one egg, $1 for extra spring onions? Why?? Ramen is cheap, delicious street food, why make a bowl cost nearly $30? The straw that broke the camel’s back came today when I ordered shrimp tempura. For some reason, they doused it in sauce instead of putting it on the side. They were sad, rubbery, and limp when I opened the container. I called to say that the ramen and edamame I ordered were fine, but the shrimp tempura was inedible. The manager on staff told me to take it up with my bank. I won’t be returning.
Rick H — Google review
The ramen portion was good and the fries were hot and well seasoned. Shrimp was so so for us. The sauces were adventurous as there was a hint of smell/taste that was not our liking. The place is spacious and clean. You can pack for your leftovers with the containers placed in the middle of the place.

Tonkatsu restaurant
Ice cream shop
Japanese curry restaurant
KCM is a modest eatery that offers authentic Japanese and Korean comfort food in a relaxed environment. This establishment specializes in sando, which are sandwiches made with cut white bread or open-faced toast, filled with various options such as meat, egg salad, or other fillings. They also serve rice bowls topped with flavorful curry and mouthwatering tonkatsu - deep-fried pork loin, tenderloin, and shoulder cutlets.
I walked by KCM many times never realizing that it was a restaurant. Stopped today to check it out, never had Japanese food, and asked what they recommend. One of the very popular items was the Chicken Katsu Curry, so I ordered it for takeout. Only took 10 minutes to prepare, looked delicious, but I had to get home, so left smelling the wonderful aromas. Planned on having it for dinner but couldn’t wait as it smelled so good. Tried a sample, ended up eating it all. It was delicious! I will definitely be back to try some other items, but this will be very hard to top. Highly recommend stopping here for a meal or a snack.

KCM has been on my radar for a while, so decided to check the place out during a recent road-trip with my son. I did know that they had a NYT write-up for their Hare Katsu, so that was a must. Pretty unadorned restaurant store front with order counter directly as you walk in. Our order was taken quickly and we were given a number and told to take a seat at one of the tables around the corner. Son got the Chicken Katsu, so we shared Hare and Chicken. Also got the Spicy Kimbap appetizer which was huge. Served with some miso soup and some pickled veggies. Everything was delicious, so it earned all the favorable reviews. The katsu had the perfect amount of breading. We preferred the Hare. The curry was excellent with just a bit of heat. Thought the Kimbap would need some sauce, but it was very good without anything. Will be back since it’s not too far from Sacred Springs.

KCM, I don't understand all the 5 stars. Famous for curry so I got the hire katsu curry, same as Tonkatsu but thicker cut. Is it good, yes it is good. But same as other curry in other Japanese restaurant. I can't tell any other difference. Also the pork is too pink in the center for my liking and the batter is not crispy enough. They should switch to thinner Tonkatsu if they can't control the cooking time

Fantastic comfort food for a rainy day! This was our first visit and I'm impressed. We both got curry, chicken for her and pork for me. The dishes were sizable! We each had enough left over for lunch the next day. The ingredients were excellent and everything was cooked perfectly. I think the chicken beat the pork, but only slightly. Prices are reasonable for the era and portion size. Everything was clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and efficient. Parking was a nightmare.

Delicious food. My wife ordered Chicken Katsu and I ordered Hire Katsu. (Pork). Everything was delicious. My wife wasn’t a visually a fan of the black sesame on the cabbage but I thought it was very tasty. The pork and chicken were great. I really enjoyed this restaurant.

I decided to bring my husband here certain it would be something we'd both enjoy. One bite of everything and he said this was his new favorite place. Every bit of the food was delicious and cooked perfectly from how flavorful the Musubi was to how juicy the Chicken was. We can't wait to come back to try what else they have to offer! The service was also quick and friendly and the restaurant clean and spacious as the eating area was empty aside from us. Very pleasant exp.

Food is incredibly good! Everything was cooked and presented perfectly. Some of the best chicken I've ever had, anywhere, any style. Lunch portions are great and very reasonably priced. Sides were very authentic and fresh. I'm giving service a 5. Despite ordering at a window, your food is still brought to the table. Owner made the rounds and checked on tables too. Atmosphere is simple and in an older space but clean and tidy. Some fun art posters on the walls.
