American restaurant

Stella's Lounge is a vibrant bar in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, that offers a unique blend of 80s nostalgia and vegan-friendly comfort food. The walls adorned with graffiti and an arcade filled with classic games set the retro tone for this unpretentious eatery. Their menu features three variations of nachos, all starting with tortilla chips, Cuban black beans, lettuce, onion, tomato, fresh salsa and pickled jalapenos.
Late night on a Tuesday and this place hit the spot while everything was amazing! The atmosphere, food, drinks, music were all “Stellar”! Once we saw the fried bologna sandwich…we had to get it and it did not disappoint! The pickle chips and toasted Texas toast took the sandwich to another level!!!! Highly recommend this place!
Ken S — Google review
The atmosphere is awesome, the style of the place is cool. The service was great! Loved the waitress. The food was not the greatest. Not full on flavors and basically stuff I can make at home. Now if your vegan or vegetarian you may really like this place. Lots of options.
Kymmie L — Google review
A great mix of vintage and new, Stella's Lounge is awesome place to play retro arcade games, eat some of your favorite comfort foods and kick back with some good friends! If you're looking for something to do with friends or family, Stella's is most definitely a great night out! Swing by and see what kind of fun you can have at Stella's Lounge!

Big shoutout to my server- gave great recommendations. Gave me a to-go box without even me having to ask for one, she knew I was visiting from Detroit and had a long drive home so she offered to get me a Mountain Dew refill for the road (now that’s what you call great service). The food she recommended was DELICIOUS, one of the best smash burgers I’ve ever had! The atmosphere and the bar overall is 10/10. Have arcade games and just all fun vibes. Will definitely visit again when I’m back in town!
Sameer K — Google review
I was visiting here from the southwest us and the chronic fries are the best food I've had from the downtown Grand Rapids area. Service is excellent, and I've come back a few times this trip because of the good vibes and quality food. This place is my top recommendation for those looking for some spice and good drinks.
Mike R — Google review
Unique bar and restaurant. They have a photo booth and arcade games. Staff is super friendly. Laid back atmosphere with music playing. Food was good. Limited menu though. Highly recommend 💚💯💯

Tried Stella'a Lounge for the first time at the end of July and will def be back! Ordered the pizza snacks, the classic smash burger and fries, everything was delicious! Great service , great food, the vibe was fun and eclectic! The price you pay per person depends on if you order apps/cocktails or not

Amazing vibes here. We were in town for a concert and this place was so good we had to go twice. Service was great, food was amazing, and the prices were very reasonable. Actually one of the best bars with the good food i’ve been to in Michigan.

Bar
Nestled just east of the Medical Mile, Logan's Alley is a charming neighborhood pub that has earned a reputation for its impressive selection of over 200 microbrews. This inviting spot embraces a laid-back atmosphere reminiscent of a high-end gastropub, making it the perfect place to unwind with friends. The craft beer menu features an extensive array of options, including hard ciders and draft cocktails, primarily sourced from Michigan but also showcasing international selections.
Logan’s Alley has a nice, convivial atmosphere and a pretty long tap list. The staff was friendly and the bar was comfortable. I had a very nice beer from an out-of-state brewery, and the side of fries was delicious. The fries reminded me of McDonald’s in the best possible way. I’ll definitely come back to this bar.
Mateo G — Google review
The best classy "dive bar" I've ever been to. What a happening place this is. I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area to grab a bite to eat or have a cold beverage. The service is fast and friendly whether the place is packed or only a bar full of people.

POUTINE WEEK 2025. - 2025 Poutine Week - Pot Roast Poutine – $16.00: Generally, the poutine was standard, medium quality, but perfectly balanced with all the elements. The fries were medium to thick cut and mediumish quality fries. The white cheddar cheese curds were great, but might have been better on top so they don’t melt since the squishy texture is what makes the curds special in poutine. The beef and gravy were succulent. They also added two cooked carrots which I think matched and added a great robust homestyle flavor. The onions were not as noticed but good. Comparing this to other contenders, I sit on the fence. While the quality is not there, it is the largest portion I tried so far, though not by a wide margin. Water was served in glass containers with straws. - Service: It was table service, but it was a bit distracted. We did not get menus, but that was probably because I was wearing my Poutine Week shirt and quickly ordered the poutine. Everything was as ordered and we had our water filled at all times. The poutine was served VERY quickly. - Atmosphere: Fairly standard bar with loud music. It was very difficult to talk, but that depends on why you are there. It was a bit looser atmosphere, but still clean for how busy it was. We sat at a table with a bench seat and chair. They also had standard tables and chairs, taller tables with chairs, bar seating, and outdoor seating. - Conclusion: If you like a place to hang out, listen to loud music, and be whatever, this is your place. Visited during Poutine Week 2025 on a Wednesday at 6pm.

Came last Sunday and enjoyed visiting with the adoptable puppies on the patio. Had good service from 2 different servers for drinks with our group. Wednesday morning I received an alert email from my credit card company asking if I had left a 36% tip, which I did not. Luckily I keep all my receipts until the final charge goes through. I called Logan’s Alley and received a call back from the manager to address the situation. I left a $6 tip, and my tip had been upped to $10. I only expected to receive a refund of the difference to make my bill correct but she went above and beyond to not only refund the entire $10 tip, but also send me a gift card to apologize and said she would figure out how this happened. I was very surprised but equally impressed by how she handled this. Having worked in food service before, this is why you always keep your receipts!!! If we return we will be checking out via the QR code instead of having someone run our cards to ensure this never happens to us again.

If you love a "dive" bar this place is for you. Great people with an awesome cheeseburger and fries. Don't be in a hurry. The burgers are freshly cooked and worth the wait. The staff is very friendly. I have yet to full experience the place during the "nightlife". When I do I'll update my review.

SpeakEZ Lounge is a popular spot in Grand Rapids, offering a speakeasy-inspired atmosphere with live music and a menu of New American cuisine. The lounge is known for its diverse offerings, including premium salads, grilled sandwiches, craft beers, and an array of signature cocktails. It's also a great place for international soccer fans to catch matches from various leagues. Additionally, the lounge hosts intimate shows and events throughout the week, making it a vibrant destination for locals and visitors alike.
The SpeakEZ Lounge offered a beautiful atmosphere with friendly staff and live music. I enjoyed the non-alcoholic drink menu including the Kew Gardens. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly.

Stopped in for drinks while on vacation. Great experience and atmosphere. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. Can't comment on food since the kitchen was closed. It was a late night cap. Highly recommend 💚💯💯
Kenny G — Google review
Good food. The mixed drinks are served well and the bartenders do a great job, both with their mixing and their attentiveness. Overall, a good atmosphere, but likely better for groups larger than 1-2 people as it's not an intimate setting.
Jesse — Google review
Good food and atmosphere. It’s got a cozy, dimly lit classic bar vibe. Definitely the spot for soccer games. The food can be a bit slow, so if you go during your lunch hour I’d recommend putting your order in quickly. The pit boss wrap is so good. Update: Unfortunately this place has done a major menu change, and not for the best. We’ve tried out the new menu twice now and were disappointed both times. Most recently we tried the sticky chicken sandwich… it was honestly the worst chicken sandwich we’ve ever had. Just downright gross. They’ve also scaled down the portions. Wont be back to this one.

We came down to GR for a food show and decided to check out this place as it was right down the street from our hotel. Em was our server and she was absolutely amazing. And she made THE BEST smoked old fashioned hands down! Check out this place. We didn’t eat this time but we will be back for sure!
Jessica — Google review
COULDN'T KICK US OUT FAST ENOUGH The waiter kept revisiting our table, eventually clearing two of the four setting while the rest of us were still eating. It was annoying enough to inspire me to write a review. Half the tables were occupied,, and it was only 6pm. When the waiter returned to our table a few minutes later, we had to ask him if they had any deserts. Even though it was only 6pm, he told as they were out of everything except for vanilla ice cream. We got the message. I'm not sure what was really going on at this place, but we will not be returning.
Pat B — Google review
The best kept secret in GR. The food came out fast and it was SO good. Our server was attentive and kind. Their brunches are the best in the city! Very British Pub vibe but with incredible food and good prices!
Ruthie H — Google review
My girlfriend and I went in for a few cocktails around 6pm today and we sat all the way in the back near the window, The section didn’t seem blocked off when we arrived, and there was a sign at the host stand that said seat yourself. We sat for about 10 minutes and nobody noticed us so I went up to the bar and ordered our drinks and got a few waters. I offered to wait for the drinks, but the bartender said she would bring them out to us. I returned to my seat and then waited another 10 minutes and it was around this Time a waiter approach our table saying “Oh hey I didn’t even see you back here” Not a hey or a hello, but greeted as an inconvenience for sitting in the back is what it felt like. I explain I had already ordered the drinks and he persisted. We re-ordered them and he said they weren’t put in the system yet. At this point, we have waited 20 minutes for cocktails, which wasn’t that much of an inconvenience because we were just hanging out socializing. The restaurant didn’t seem busy. We waited another 10 minutes, and then I went to approach the bar and my waiter stopped me and said the bartender was making our drinks right now. I approached the bar and so did my waiter and I explained to the both of them if they didn’t start making my drinks yet I would just leave Because I wasn’t trying to wait any longer. The bartender seem flustered and responded with “ You can leave if you want, it’s not skin of our backs.” I told her I would wait for the drinks which by the way weren’t started at all. I returned to my seat and my girlfriend and I decided to leave it was at that moment walking out that I had seen my drink starting to be made. We will not be back and I don’t recommend this place. The service was atrocious.

Nestled in the heart of Grand Rapids, Grand Woods Lounge is a vibrant hunting lodge-inspired venue that promises an unforgettable experience. With its spacious layout and inviting ambiance, this hotspot features cozy fireplaces, two tiki bars, and a stunning patio where you can unwind. The lounge boasts twenty televisions for sports enthusiasts and hosts live music performances throughout the week, ensuring there's always something happening.
I recently came back to The Woods and noticed they’ve got a completely new staff, and honestly, they really turned the place around. I ordered some wings and a few drinks and everything was fantastic. The vibe feels way better now, and the new staff is awesome, super friendly and on top of things. Definitely glad I gave it another shot, feels like a whole new bar.

Over all everything was great until the bill came. They charged at 2.95% admin fee. Then I gave her cash and she didn’t give me the exact change. Establishments really need to start rolling their fees into the prices of their food because this admin fee makes me want to never come back. And stop rounding up without asking and not giving the correct change.
Jennifer S — Google review
I just moved in downtown and decided to give this place a try despite the poor reviews. Walked in to get some dinner and the place was empty. The employees were devoted to playing their YouTube playlists on the tvs and despite have no other customers, they totally ignored me, so I walked out. Then, last night, the were violating the noise ordinance and keeping me awake until about 2am.
Rob K — Google review
First time. Paid too much for some chips and salsa from a jar. It’s easy to make fresh salsa. And what the heck is the admin fee added to the bill?!? Total scam. Our waitress was fast and friendly and efficient. It was pretty empty in there and I’m not sure how they’re still in business.

What a cool Grand Rapids spot. Great decor inside and out. I am looking forward to returning when the weather is nice so I can sit outside and enjoy the outdoor fireplace. Tasty food and good drinks.

Drinks are super affordable and good. Wait staff and security are super friendly and it's a great atmosphere. Haley is super friendly and treats guests with respect! Definitely coming back

Food was not good! Salmon was dry and "hard" on the outside. Waitress didn't describe the dish correctly. There was not supposed to be any tomatoes anywhere they were all over the place. Menu said the dish was 18.95 when we got the bill it was 21.95. I asked for nothing different. Would never go again and certainly wouldn't take anyone there.

Nestled on Michigan Street, Birch Lodge is a beloved local dive bar that exudes a charming and laid-back vibe. Known affectionately as "The Birch," this cozy spot features a warm woodgrain bar top and walls filled with quirky knick-knacks, making it an inviting place to unwind. With numerous big-screen TVs, it's the perfect venue for sports enthusiasts looking to catch their favorite games alongside friends.
We visited Birch Lodge on a Monday evening for dinner. We sat at the bar and the bar tender greeted us right away. She then asked our drink order and offered us menus. When asked if she had any recommendations, she said the chicken quesadilla, French dip and any of the burgers were amazing. I decided to go with the quesadilla and my boyfriend ordered a "Build a burger" with cheddar, bacon and an egg on top. Our food came out hot and fresh after about 15 minutes. We were both happy with our choices and will definitely be back.

Great Friday fish dinner. Our server was awesome, always had time to check on us even though it was very busy. Great happy hour specials also.

I just had drinks during my visit, but I loved the atmosphere. It’s just what I want a dive bar to be: comfortable, casual, and straightforward. Prices were very reasonable, and the staff was friendly enough. The bar was pretty cool with all the money decorating the walls. Birch Lodge makes a nice escape from the usual.
Mateo G — Google review
Good burger and amazing fries.  Standard bar/pub atmosphere. - Goliath Burger $16 (with fries): TWO THIRD POUND PATTIES!  TONS OF CHEESE!  Regular bun. That is the sum of it, but here are some details. The burger patties are third pound patties and about average.  They were cooked at about medium-well by default.  It says never frozen, but it didn’t seem to ultimately affect the taste a lot in their case.  Not bad, but not unique. The cheese was coated on this burger!  You can barely see the beef patties.  The cheese, though there were loads of it, was actually mediocre and was a bit of a bland texture and taste. I added ketchup and mayo to it and it helped liven it up a bit.  I did enjoy it. - Fries: AMAZING!  Get them!  They were good and hot all the way to the end, even if they were thinner.  They were crispy, but soft inside.  The batter and seasoning were slightly sweeter and full of savory goodness. - Service: You seat yourself here, but there is table service.  I was a bit confused walking in because it was not communicated, but I quickly figured it out.  My waitress was quick and helpful.  The burger didn’t take too long.  Paying was fairly painlessly quick. - Atmosphere: Standard bar feel.  The music played was a variety of 90’s pop and rap and they play it louder with thumping bass (not my cup of tea). - Conclusion: The prices were good and the quality was ok.  I had a few people recommend Birch Lodge and I may come back for their Lodge Burger because that has American cheese and that’ll probably register with me and fit into my general baseline of how I gauge burgers. Visited Wednesday 5:00-5:45pm.

Live music bar
Live music venue
The Pyramid Scheme is a unique and laid-back bar in Grand Rapids, offering a vibrant atmosphere for music enthusiasts and free spirits. This eclectic venue features pinball machines, a live rock venue, and a bar serving local draft beers. It's the perfect spot to immerse yourself in indie bands, punk rock, and experimental music while enjoying the energetic ambiance. The place also hosts various activities such as concerts and fosters collaborations with community partners to support independent artists.
I had some fun playing the pinball machines here. The combination of those machines with a bar is a great idea, and I enjoyed a nice beer while trying some older machines. It’s fun even when you’re as bad at pinball as I am. Maybe I’ll have better luck next time.
Mateo G — Google review
We came here specifically for the pinball. They have some recently released machines. While the machines were in good condition, some of the glass was very dirty and we also thought the machines were a bit pricey (used to more 2$ for 3 games rather than $1 a game which seemed to be a lot of the machines). Staff also did not seem very knowledgeable about the machines either so didn’t feel like a true pinball bar. Staff also came off kind of rude, like they are too good to serve you???!!
Taylor B — Google review
The Pyramid Scheme easily rivals as one of my favorite venues in downtown Grand Rapids. I have seen several shows here. The most recent was the Death is Little More tour with Boundaries, Stick to your Guns, Gates to Hell and Psycho-frame. Shows always run in a timely manner, with lines moving fluidly, pinball machines singing and drinks flowing from the bar. Highly recommend catching a show that suits your tastes, here!
From; P — Google review
Great bar in front with booths and pinball machines. Great draft selection. The venue area in the back is fantastic. Great place for medium sized gigs with bathrooms and another bar.
Barb K — Google review
I like the Pyramid Scheme venue mostly because for its size it offers just as much as the larger venues but without the congestion and prices. I have had the opportunity to see smaller acts like Mother Mother, Good Terms, Have Mercy to larger acts like Emery, Living Color, and Baroness. Before the show you can get a drink, play some pinball, and if you're lucky meet the bands in the lot. If you have some time to burn Stella's across the street has some great food so sit back and enjoy the show and ambiance. Always a great time.
Matthew M — Google review
Are you disappointed because the tickets to see the band whose song is on repeat at 5 different radio stations, from 400 yards away in the stadium stands, costs 2 whole paychecks (I hate Ticketmaster), well then look no further. There’s not a better place this side of the Atlantic Ocean to see an artist who actually wrote the songs perform them than at the bar named after the great 3D triangular shape. If you invite 2 friends, and each of them invite 2 friends and so on, the fun only multiplies for everybody. You can’t go wrong, and you don’t even have to report your enjoyment on your taxes next April. I’ve attended an incalculable number of shows here (maybe 10) and I’m never let down. Rates are fair, and the staff is kind. Play some pinball while you await the front row to true art in the best form.
Brooks A — Google review
Pictures don't do it justice! It was fun and the vibes were great. I came from Canada to see a show and it was worth the drive.
Kenny B — Google review
I didn't have any drinks here, but I was pleasantly surprised by this "hole in the wall" venue I have never been too. I saw still remains here and it was a awesome little venue. I'll be keeping an eye on upcoming shows for sure.

Located in laid-back Grand Rapids, Steel Cat Bar offers a variety of drinks, delicious bar foods, and friendly locals. On the weekends they have a Bloody Mary bar that is truly amazing!
Came in before work for a delicious bloody Mary. Prompt, efficient, friendly service. Got off work early and came back for a post shift drink. Different bartender but still same level of service. Beer tap selection might be a bit light but they have a nicely rounded out full bar so plenty of quality options. They also have an Ice shelf? Built into the bar that your drinks can sit on while you're drinking. I decided I love it and no one can take that away from me. It's fun. It can get loud in here as it's a small place so I probably won't come on weekends but weekdays are perfect for me. They specialize in bloody Mary's with several options. They also have a bloody Mary bar which I will have to come back for at some point.

I am absolutely appalled by the condition of this bar! It is extremely unsanitary, with bathrooms that are so filthy I couldn't even bring myself to enter. They simply sprinkle powder over vomit and leave it on the floor. The bar staff is incredibly rude and gives off a negative energy. Additionally, the parking is now paid, which means you are essentially paying to park your car in a high-crime area just to visit a dirty bar! Trust me, you are not missing out by steering clear of this establishment. There are plenty of other wonderful bars just a short distance away!

So I have been going to go to this bar since 1993. When it was the old name and a very blue collar 3rd shift bar. When it reopened as Steel Cat it was still cool. NOT ANYMORE!. I want in and had my backpack since I'm on a bicycle. I was told by the rude female bartender. "You can't have all that in here" I was like what do you mean by all that. She's like the backpack and stuff. Backpack equals one item to her it was stuff and all that what. Play relaxing went down the street and spent my money at the Anchor Bar which is what I recommend to everybody. This used to be a cool bar.

I was told there is a rule that if you more than 2 drinks within 1 hour, you will cut you off? Never heard of that before, but when I left a 0 dollar tip, the bartender decided to come to my table and complain about it? It’s your right to cut me off as it is my right to leave whatever tip I think is fit. My bill was 20$ so you’re coming about 4$? Unprofessional. Didn’t get her name, but it was the older blonde girl. I won’t be coming back
Drake T — Google review
Honestly, the previous staff was so much better. The new team was rude, unprofessional, and had a really snotty attitude. Save yourself the disappointment and go literally anywhere else but Steel Cat . You’ll thank me later.

Great staff. First time visiting with my girlfriend and they treated us great. Excellent beer variety. Will definitely go back.

This place is a great for meeting up with friends. They have a rotating beers on tap. Infused vodka that are amazing, strange but good. Good old popcorn and peanuts for snacks. If you're hungry feel free to order delivery from anywhere. Outlets on the wall if you need to charge your phone. Definitely a spot to be a regular. Also be brave with your friends and get the GIANT MULE! Cheers!

Steel Cat is a great place to go grab a drink. I suggest sitting up at the bar if you like a little entertainment to go along with your beverage. They have toy construction equipment that you can play with on their frost rail that was very entertaining. The bar tenders are also very nice and attentive.

Mojo's Dueling Piano Bar & Restaurant is a popular nightlife spot in Grand Rapids, offering lively entertainment and a vibrant atmosphere. The venue features dueling piano performances that encourage sing-alongs and create an energetic ambiance. In addition to the music, the ground-floor eatery serves classic American fare such as burgers, fries, pasta, steaks, sandwiches, and salads. The bar offers a variety of martinis to complement the experience.
Great music from several musicians, all very talented and ready to play your favorite by request. Fun audience participation too.

The entertainment is always great. It's been about a decade since I have been there until tonight. Came for my 40th bday. I was just not impressed there wasn't any food. Like nothing not even appetizers. So our group of 16 had to go elsewhere. I have never been to a bar they didn't serve food. All the waiters bartenders were great and friendly.
Kari R — Google review
This is a review for the second floor. The first floor is decent if that is your vibe. But no food is a big negative. Plus this last weekend first round of drinks the male bartender on first floor charges me for doubles. Which I did not order and I literally watched him make and they were light singles. A 2 second poor max. I even said to my wife wow that was a light poor. Then charges us $29. The second floor is supposed to be more of a dance club. But the last few years they leave it very bright up there. The vibe is all wrong for dancing. People want it dark and play recent music. I just visited this last weekend because I seen they are bringing in new DJ’s. I was hopeful that would help the music but I was very disappointed. The playlist was more like a rave. Every song was mixed and not in a good way. Plus super bright white floodlights on.If you don’t turn the lights down the best DJ in Michigan will not fill that place. If this is the new example of talent coming in things are not looking good. 10 years ago it was packed every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Now it’s dead every weekend and not even open Wednesdays. It’s not only the DJ it’s more about the ambience. It’s great you are trying to improve I hope it gets back to how it use to be. It could with good talent and proper lighting.

It was a Friday night and we arrived a minute before 9pm and got in for free. Bouncer even commented that we JUST made it in, because cover charge begins at 9pm. We thoroughly, enjoyed the musical talents that evening. We had already eaten dinner elsewhere and had drinks elsewhere, so it was just nice to enjoy the music with other patrons. We would enjoy going back if ever in the area again!
Nancy S — Google review
Edit: also when they take someone’s ID and say it’s fake, and you call non emergency on them (they tell you it’s the only way to get it back) they BAN YOU. God this bar sucks. The workers suck, the drinks are midpack and expensive. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen security go on a power trip. One of the big problems I’ve seen is that the security doesn’t understand new Michigan licenses let alone out of state licenses. When Michigan started with the new IDs, everyone in this bar thought they were fakes, they took peoples licenses and IDs and those same people had to call the police to get it back. Absolutely inane behavior, just avoid this place.
Callum L — Google review
Got absolutely scammed by the male bartender on the main floor this past Saturday night. Charged me and my buddy $29 for TWO redbull vodkas. I almost couldn't believe it & asked if they were doubles and he assured to us they were single pours. Then my buddy tried seeing if there was a price difference upstairs and it ended up being $8.50 for one. How is this possible? Super scammy practices and I won't be coming back. Place was also dead as a doornail at 11pm as well. You wonder why...
Trevor C — Google review
This place is an absolute blast! Highly recommend anyone visiting the area, check this place out. The staff are laid back and friendly, the musicians are very talented and really know how to work the crowd, everyone was having a blast. We spent like 5 hours there hanging out, left for another bar next door and had one drink and went back haha there's a night club upstairs, but unless you're under 25 years old, you should probably just stay downstairs and give the piano man $20 to play some piano man.
Jon — Google review
Easy enough to reserve a table. When we arrived, we were carded (as expected, I'm 21 but look 19) and the host at the front took my ID and started at me for a good minute, looking at me like I was trying to get in with a fake ID or something. It may have had to do with my recent weight loss and hair color change, but I doubt it. Male staff and bouncers were incredibly rude and standoffish, refused to talk to us when we had questions, we had to look for one of the female wait staff in order to figure out what was going on. It was our first night club scene and we were confused as to how things worked. Waitress was very helpful and polite, food was fantastic and relatively inexpensive, around the tune of $10 for an entree. I highly recommend their Margherita flat bread pizza. Mozzarella sticks left more to be desired but I've definitely had a lot worse. Live music was fantastic, they played a lot of '60-'70's classic rock but they did play some Fall Out Boy and they do take requests. Mixed drinks/cocktails tasted cheap and watered down, but the shots were pretty good. Bartenders were nice but a little unprofessional, talking about/making fun of what I assume to be other employees. My friends and I went to go dancing and the upstairs didn't open until 9pm. We went upstairs and there is a small dance floor and a DJ whose music was so overpowered by techno-beats that you could scarcely make out what song was being played. We were honestly a little disappointed with the dance floor but all in all we had a good time. Ended up leaving at 10pm to walk around GR in the rain because it got boring. Probably won't be going back, except for maybe the pizza and the pianos. Definitely won't buy any mix drinks/cocktails again.

The Lumber Baron Bar is a great place to go for a drink or dinner before Ruth Chris. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the bar has a fireplace and leather furnishings.
Great place in town to catch a cocktail in an intimate setting. Our bartender Cayden was friendly and helpful. He always made sure to check in on us and keep the cocktails full. Really enjoyed my first time here. Everyone seemed to work well together to give a positive experience. Will plan to come back

Cocktails were delicious, service was attentive and pleasant, and the vibes were great. We stopped in on a whim around 11pm and we were greeted, seated, and served quickly. The ambiance is calm and comfortable, feels very intimate and private in there! Would recommend checking it out.

I stopped by this bar for a drink with a friend, and we happened to get there at a quiet time. It’s a very classy place with an upscale atmosphere, but the bartenders are friendly and down-to-earth. They have some rare drinks on their menu, but their cocktails are approachable and delicious. They don’t seem to water anything down, and the cocktails tend to be strong. I tried two: smooth criminal and lavender blues. I think I preferred lavender blues, it was light and floral, but both drinks were excellent. I’d love to come here again, and I think it’ll be easy to convince my friends once in a while.
Mateo G — Google review
Cocktails were great, service was good, atmosphere was great. Food was tasty but maybe a little on the heavy side for cocktail appetizer food, eg totally smothered in buttery oily goodness sauce that requires cutting and avoiding drippage on white clothes. Tasty but out of context! I'll be back for more Old Fashions for sure.
Thilo S — Google review
Great drinks and appetizers. The price point is a little over the top compared to other locations that provides a similar food and cocktail experience, however the atmosphere makes up for it. A good place for celebrations or a date night, will definitely be a treat.
Renata C — Google review
Absolutely love the vibe of this place. Very chill and quiet, it has that speakeasy feel. The cocktails are top notch, as is the service. If you're interested in food, Lumber Baron doesn't have a kitchen, but they allow you to order off the full Ruth's Chris menu nextdoor. Lumber Baron does have a dessert menu though, the creme brulee is delicious.

My husband and I were looking for a low key bar near our hotel to end our night and this was the perfect spot. Loved it’s low key, speakeasy/old world vibes and delicious cocktails. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the bartenders make drinks. Our favorite cocktail was the smoked old fashioned, but all the drinks were delish!
Jennifer W — Google review
This is a MUST visit. While walking through the Amaway Grand Hotel we stumbled upon this very cozy cocktail bar. It has that old-school, exclusive, members only, cigar bar feel for sure. The cocktails are well thought out and prepared by a very professionals, not just some person they found for minimum wage. All of this does come at a price, but the experience is totally worth it! I will be back, often.

The Holiday Bar is a long-standing neighborhood sports bar with a rich history and a recently renovated patio. Originally established in 1905, it has been a beloved establishment on the West Side of Grand Rapids. The bar offers happy hours, finger foods, and classic nachos topped with various ingredients like spicy queso dip, lettuce, tomato, black olives, jalapenos, green onion and cilantro.
Wow! What a great time! The atmosphere on a Tuesday evening was inviting and the food marvelous! From the hearty wings, to the kids blackened Mac/cheese to the Cuban sandwich! Amazing! And the entrainment was just as enjoyable!! Sadly I forgot my MSU hoodie and the next morning I called when they opened, and it wasn't turned in..my loss is someone else's gain.

First time to visit - and during a cold snowy day so most likely slower than usual. Live music was nice - guitarist singing - not too loud that couldn't have a conversation. A dozen beer taps, wine and a wide selection of alcohol. Food is good tasting and fair prices. Ample parking. Happy Hour specials Monday thru Thursday

I love this place! I absolutely love corned beef, so Rueben sandwiches are one of my favorites. However, I don’t usually order them bc I’m so gaggy about fat (and that’s a marble cut). Without fail every time, The Holiday Rueben is super clean meat, the taste is phenomenal, and portion is filling. I have at one point or another had everything on their menu, and everything is excellent. The French Onion Soup is also outstanding, as well as the French Dip. I would highly recommend this place! Staff and service is always great! The place is also always nice and clean.

The food was satisfactory, but none of our group thought their dishes were good enough to return and give it another try. A great place if you're just looking for drinks, bar seating, or patio seating on nice days. Our server was friendly and helpful but seemed overwhelmed by other duties.

This place is worth checking out! We ordered the Cowboy Burger and the French Dip and both were delicious! We had this delivered and the service was prompt and everything tasted as fresh as being in the restaurant. The packaging of the to-go boxes played a role into how well the food stayed table-ready. I highly recommend stopping in to support this west side (the best side) establishment. Enjoy! Happy eating!

The atmosphere here is confusing, but welcoming and comfortable. It's dark, buy has big windows that let in lots of light. Brown table with black benches. Open space with bar in middle. Only negative is when entering servers area is on opposite side of bldg and can't see you, and there's no sign saying seat yourself. I ordered their Grandwich 2019 entry the PBB&J Monte Cristo with fries and Siracha Deviled Eggs. The sandwich was surprisingly filling. I was shocked to only be able to finish half. It is very rich and extremely delishous. It is far from a Classic Monte Cristo, more lika cousin, however who cares! The fries were the suprising thing. They were pure excellence. Probably the best fries I've had this decade. I'm serious, they were that good, crisp on the outside. Melted in your mouth inside. Their loaded fries look even better, next time. The Deviled Eggs were very pretty and just as good as the rest of the meal. The service at first scared me with no welcoming. However after that it was 1st rate. Overall a massive 5 stars. Will I be back? You can bet I will be. Awesome meal, awesome experience!

WORTH EVERY PENNY !!! From the service, to the drinks to the food; portion sizes, to the taste wow that’s all I can say. Highly recommend 100/10 .. I’d suggest sitting inside if you can cause I was outside it was pretty hot and there was a protest down the road and people riding bikes on the side walk close to the tables but if you don’t mind that you can enjoy the outdoor tables. Forgot to get pictures of the drink and dessert I had a strawberry crush mocktail pretty refreshing and nice if you like ginger beer and the lemon slice cake I think it was is pretty good.

My friend and I evidently arrived before the crowds, but Meanwhile quickly got busy after that. It was our first time there, and it’s quite the happening place. There are movie posters from a local designer all over the place, and it almost feels like a diner. They have a nice draught list, and although there’s often a line it moves pretty fast. I think the crowd tends to be on the younger side, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable. It seems like quite a nice bar to me, and I’d be happy to visit again.

The company has experienced remarkable growth over the years, becoming one of the largest craft breweries globally with distribution in numerous countries and states. Known for their popular All Day IPA, which is the top-selling session IPA worldwide and ranks fourth among all IPAs, Founders Brewing Co continues to expand its reach.
Founders Brewing Co. has a very nice taproom. The menu is fairly broad and includes salads, bowls, skillets, burgers, and platters. For those with celiac, they have gluten free options highlighted on the menu. Mentioned this to Hannah our waitress and she found the recipe had changed and made an alteration to our order. Also vegetarian options highlighted on menu. The beer selection is good as you would expect. Music a bit loud and not to my taste, but not a huge problem. Waitstaff very attentive. Most breweries can make a good beer. A lot of breweries can make one great beer. Very few can make several really great beers. In my rankings, Founders is #1. This location is first-class all the way! I was a little surprised - you're not gonna drink on the cheap, but really the prices aren't bad for quality of beer and environment that you're getting. I very much wish I lived closer. One question: My receipt and Google Maps do not agree on the street name. When did the street get renamed, and why?

This place has got great vibes and a great atmosphere. Theres so much to look at inside and the decor all just melds so well with each other. The burger was well made and the fries were top notch as well. All washed down with a local brew, made this fella one happy customer.

Amanda and the girls are great could have asked for anyone better to serve me.... I will say very classy and reserved with a upscale hipster vibe..food was awesome I had the Hangover Helper a 2 patty burger with a fried egg and hash cake and garlic aioli....

Update: Chloe the AGM reached out directly via phone and left me a very genuine and sincere voicemail once I reached out via email. It was within hours of me sending the email that I received the call. They are remedying the situation and going above and beyond to make me want to continue my business with them. Again Chloe has been absolutely amazing!! Will update food review once I am able to get back down there which will be soon!! Love this bar and love the vibes. However I ordered from Uber Eats and there were bits of plastic in my Dirty Martini Burger as well as me ordering Killer Cosmic Fries and I received Mac n Cheese instead. I’m hoping that there can be some form of remedy.

Was busy before the concert. Many people waiting for table saying a 45 min wait. We waited maybe 15 min. Atmosphere was warm and friendly. Food and drinks came quickly.. They were on the ball getting us in and out ontime. Fries were great! Needed 2 hands for the burger. It tasted as good as it looked..maybe could have used more sauce. I would recommend this place...uodate 9.4.25...another concert.. was told 45m for table..only took 15m... food took a little bit to come..but tasted good... they out of many beers.

Z's Bar & Restaurant is a long-standing American eatery and bar located in downtown Grand Rapids, just a block away from the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Since its establishment in 1982, Z's has been a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The restaurant offers an array of elevated bar food, including delectable Angus-beef burgers and an impressive selection of cocktails.
Great bar atmosphere very traditional, and the restaurant portion of the bar or the food was great. I went in there to actually grab a carry-out but I decided to sit down and stay. I placed an order for the chicken sandwich. By the way was spectacular. They did mess up I wanted no barbecue sauce or on the side and they forgot but I was in a hurry by the time I placed the order within five minutes. It was ready so they must’ve been, anticipating some big crowds. Regardless, can’t expect much more from a bar/restaurant than this. I would definitely recommend this place for quickly grabbing a drink or getting some food or staying all night great atmosphere

I came here because I heard the ribs were amazing. Turns out not to be true, they are very mid-level at best. Not a lot of flavor, and kind of dry. The service was really nice, and the atmosphere seems fun, the ribs do not live up to the reputation, unfortunately.
DEFINE F — Google review
This review is strictly on their chicken wings, nothing else. If you’re looking for good chicken wings then look elsewhere. $21 for a dozen wings that have got to be the tiniest, absolutely smallest wings I’ve ever seen. Even with the breaded coating they are tiny. If they offered naked wings they would look like they came off of a Cornish hen. I had to take some photos just to document the comically small size of these wings. In one photo you can see the drumstick bone next to a standard wet wipe pack for size reference. In another photo you can see a chicken “chunk”. Not quite a drumstick, not quite a flat. There was probably more breading than actual chicken meat on these things. This place should seriously consider getting a new supplier for their wings, or lower the price. Have always enjoyed coming to Z’s, but this is the first and last time ordering wings.

Good food. Great atmosphere. Service was a little slow but it was busy. Huge drink selection. Highly recommend 💚💯💯

We didn’t eat there but grabbed some drinks instead. The service was good and our waiter was lighthearted. He brought us drinks in a relatively short time and checked in on us enough but not too much. The other staff was friendly as well. The exterior seating was ok but a little crammed. The interior seating has more room but if you want fresh air, then outside and closeness it is. The beers were beers. So not much to say about that. lol

Great menu offerings and authentic “tavern” ambience. We loved the Reuben, Cuban, and craft cocktails (extensive bar selection.) Amazing value on the $5 bartenders choice cocktails. Appreciated the kind and helpful service that was provided despite it being a busy Friday night. Great experience!

Was staying across the street for a conference so the convenience was great! One day I got the mac and cheese with grilled chicken and it was great. Big enough that I saved some for lunch the next day. Went over this evening to try the "award winning" ribs. I don't know who gives the awards for this but they were far from award winning. They weren't bad but not great. Really dry, kinda flavorless. No problems with service, waitress was polite and efficient.

I was happily surprised with the size of the location and service we received. The menu is burgers, pizza and the like. The drink menu is expensive and they have memberships for more deals. It was a very good option as it was close to our hotel and on the way to Devos. We were in and out quickly and it wasn't fast food.

The Mitten Brewing Company is a popular craft brewery and pizzeria located in a restored Victorian-era firehouse, offering a unique blend of old-time baseball decor and delicious food. Since its opening in 2012, this vintage baseball-themed brewpub has become a staple in Grand Rapids, attracting locals and visitors alike.
A great brewery in the Grand Rapids area. We have gotten beers before so it was nice to finally go to their brewery and get some beers on tap. All the beers are good and they have a few absolute knockouts. The sour mango and Belgian spiced red come to mind. They were phenomenal, we took a 6 back of the mango to go. We did a flight and a specialty pizza. The pizza was really good. We wanted to try the pizza flight but there were only 2 of us so we're going to come back with friends for that one. The staff were really friendly, we got there right at open and within an hour it was packed. Our server was great. She helped with the pizza and beers. The decor is also awesome, completely themed in baseball. I can't recommend Mitten Brewing enough!

We stopped here before a ballgame in Grand Rapids MI. Great Detroit Tigers and baseball Memorabilia and displays. Decent sized seating indoors but the patio was great. Did not feel crowded outside. Our pizza was very good. Beer selection is also good. Tried a couple of great beers...I recommend the 84. Would definitely stop here again. They only have street parking, then I saw a sign about parking somewhere? after I had parked a couple of blocks away.
J C — Google review
The ambience at this place is top notch if you are a Detroit Tigers fan!!! One of the coolest designed restaurants I have been to! It’s in an old Fire Station and has all kinds of old Tiger and fireman memorabilia. They have flights of both beer and pizza, which is so awesome! My first time getting a pizza flight! They also have a Detroit style pizza, which was very good. The beer flights come in a really cool Michigan shaped holder. All the beers were good. The “Peanut and Crackerjacks” beer was such a tasty and unique brew, so I would definitely recommend trying that one for sure! Our server, Megan, was super nice and did a fantastic job with our party of 9. We got the cheesebread and The Big Show pretzel appetizer and both were very good! Would get both again. All in all, just a great place that is definitely worth visiting!

I love coming to the Mitten! The pizzas are truly one of a kind and delicious. I don’t think I’ve tried a pizza I haven’t liked yet. I definitely recommend trying out their menu.

Woah… that crust! And what a neat concept for a pizza. Lemon ricotta, hot honey, pepperoni, and spinach. This pie is definitely worth driving out of your way for. Not only that but the place has a really neat themed “timeless” baseball collection feel.

Was passing through Grand Rapids on the way to Muskegon to catch the Lake Express home to Milwaukee and stopped for lunch. First off the place is clean, inviting and has a great vibe. The baseball theme is AWESOME and they do a great job with it. The service was awesome. Our server was polite, clear, smiled and had patience. Just top notch. We ordered a Detroit style pizza and it was FANTASTIC. Delicious, fresh, hot out of the oven. The sauce was delicious, the crust was delicious and perfect and all the ingredients were fresh. I had a flight of beers with a focus on IPAs and Lagers. All the beers were good with a couple a bit above average but didn’t feel any of them were grand slams. Go to the Mitten and you won’t be disappointed.
Ken M — Google review
STOP TURN AROUND GO BACK TO THE MITTEN!! All of us were in heaven. The wait for a table was worth it! What an amazing atmosphere. We had a blast. The pumpkin spice latte beer was the best. Even I drank it. I don’t drink but it was so good. We were in pizza heaven. The pizza flight idea is the best. I love it. I’d drive from Detroit just for the pumpkin spice beer and pizza. Love it. So so good. We haven’t laughed so hard at dinner in the 7 years we’ve done our beer tour. DON’T MISS THE MITTEN!!

I've only been to the BOB during Art Prize and I've only tried their pizza, so take this review with a grain of salt. Pizza was decent. Brew selection was pretty good except they were out of my top choice. Fun atmosphere, multiple levels. I'd go again.

The good: The atmosphere was nice. The bad: You are basically your own waiter The ugly: Our food was cold. By the time we got it, it was room temperature, and there were no servers to help us remedy the situation. Just the very occasional person running orders out from the kitchen. They were no help. Yet they still had the nerve to ask for a 20% or more tip in the food. Not sure why. They certainly aren’t giving the patrons attentive service. We will not be returning.
Erik K — Google review
I was recently here celebrating my 21st birthday with friends. When we arrived everything was great, friendly staff and a nice environment. Unfortunately the bartenders changed shortly after and they were terrible. Openly pouring half shots into drinks and claiming they were doubles (still charging double price) to multiple people was the first problem. They charged me $10 for a $4 drink, and when we asked if prices changed as the night goes on we were told no. To top it off the drink was extremely weak. Total rip off of an evening and we left for better bars.
Dylan C — Google review
We were greeted after sitting at the bar however we had to flag down a server to order food. They didn't check on us and the location was not busy. They did check on the couple next to us 3 times during their maybe 30 minute visit. The chicken ordered was served hot and fresh however the fries were warm at best. The beer was ok. I was visiting the area, when I return to the area I wouldn't visit again, due to not feeling like a valued customer.

A friend and I shared the Jenga Nachos. They are perfection. We do wish that the cheese, chicken, and other ingredients had been evenly distributed throughout the dish, but it still tasted wonderful! The staff was friendly and attentive.

Wow oh wow. I mean, haha, where do begin! I came here as a young boy, and this establishment took me in. They fed me, they gave me clothes, a place to sleep, and a family to cherish. I will never forget what this place has done to me, let alone what they have done for others. When I walk in here, I become someone. Outside, I am nothing. The big old building is certainly a place I will be going again. Thank you, thank you thank you. #love

Awesome dive bar in downtown GR. Close to Van Andel so it’s perfect for drinks and food prior to a game or show. Service was great and very friendly. We asked for other dive bars in the area and all 3 servers were quick to suggest places and make conversation

The place is amazing with fire pit ! Cottage burger was fantastic 👌🏾 Little disappointed with no availability of fish or chicken corn dog. $17 for 2 strips of chicken and calling it a burger wasn’t nice ! Lady taking our order wasn’t attentive , overall , not the right time for us.

Went here for lunch with a friend. It was ok. A little over priced for what I got. Potatoes were very bland. Just chunks that were over roasted. Didn't taste like there was much seasoning. The sandwich was fine. My friend really liked the beef stew. I do like the atmosphere here. After we asked for the bill it took about 10 minutes to get it, which wasn't great. Their burgers are really good here though.

I dropped by for a quick dinner on a Thursday evening, and I was happy with my meal. The place has been in business a long time, and the interior is cozy with a nice old bar. The staff was friendly, and the prices weren’t too bad considering how things are these days. I got the cottage burger (an olive burger variant) along with a cup of the chili blanco. Both were excellent. The whole place had a nice warm feel. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re in the area and you’re looking for a comfortable meal.

Delicious! We went for a late lunch on the first day of fall. We sat comfortably on their patio and had fabulous service. The burgers we ordered were cooked exactly as requested (medium-rare), the tots and cottage fries were addictive and drinks were nice and strong. The entire experience was perfect and we're looking forward to going back!

Very dark inside which I I enjoy if you have trouble seeing or wear glasses, you may need to use your phone flashlight to read the menu. Me and my wife stopped in for lunch. We got the cottage burger and waffle fries plus a Coke. I was surprised when my bill came out to $52.. the waffle fries tasted like they had the flavor of bad oil and in my opinion the burger was not that great. The burger patty was small. I enjoy good food and don’t mind paying fort it but when I left here, I felt like I was robbed.

I sat on their very cozy side-patio for a quick solo dinner and enjoyed the charm and privacy of the setting. I’ve hear this is one of, if not the oldest bar in Grand Rapids. The black bean burger & fries were great - I’ll definitely be back, hopefully on the patio again!

Rockwell Republic is a vibrant gastropub located in the historic Heartside District of Grand Rapids. The stylish two-story setting boasts high ceilings, exposed-brick walls, and an elegant screened-in lounge for outdoor dining. Guests can indulge in succulent steak, freshly made sushi, handcrafted cocktails, craft beers, and wines.
We came here for dinner but they weren’t serving what we wanted so we ended up just getting a drink and an app this time. The service was also taking a longer time than usual. Perhaps we will visit again soon, but everything was just a little off on this visit, EXCEPT FOR THE RANGOONS which are always delectable.

I want to start by saying the service was beyond exceptional. I will go back for that if nothing else. Thankfully though they are more than their service. The atmosphere was incredible with a live jazz band playing at a volume that allowed you to have a conversation with those with you, but also very much enjoy their playing. Made for an outstanding evening. I have mixed feelings with our food. We went with sushi and it was good. Very flavorful, but nearly impossible to eat as almost every piece fell apart just trying to get it off the plate. Getting the very large pieces in your mouth was just not an option without using your other hand to catch half of it and stuffing it in all caveman style. Overall we really liked the place and it certainly sits near the top of our list for return trips to Grand Rapids.
Scott V — Google review
We visited for your first date night service. Food was good, needed more seasoning. We had the charcuterie board, steak, and scallops. It was very bland/simple. Mashed potatoes were dry. Cheese plate was good, minus the turkey. Apple skillet dessert was good a bit runny, would have preferred a thicker sauce. Overall the experience was great and we will definitely do it again.

Went here for the first time. We were lucky enough to be there during happy hour. I got a Raspberry Margarita and Blackberry Perrin. We got sweet potato fries and the shrimp ahi roll. The food was SO good. The sushi was definitely in my top 3!! The server is extremely good at his job. Never wrote anything down, but our orders were always exactly correct. Can't wait to go back. The only slight downside is that the tables are close to each other, and the walkway is a little tight. I am very fluffy though. ☺️

Fantastic food and drinks! They have a decent amount of indoor/outdoor seating. Rockwell Republic also has some great deals throughout the week. Excellent place all around. Ordered the guacamole and a sushi roll both on happy hour and both were excellent. Service was impeccable. Our server Shane was always in communication with us while he was in-between serving other customers. He was also extremely friendly and helped us with finding places to go around town! Great place to start out our Grand Rapids trip.

Food was wonderful and fresh. Takeout portions are smaller than dine in but overall the quality is top notch. All of the food was delicious. Only complaints are that we ordered the 3 taco meal and only received 2 tacos & that we asked for crostini and naan and received crostini and chips with the beer cheese dip. Also thankful that they were one of the few places that kept their normal hours in the mist of this water situation.

Blue Dog Tavern, situated on the West Side of Grand Rapids, is a corner location with 1930s-era accents. The building has a rich history, having served as a grocery store and later as the City Trust and Savings Bank during the Great Depression. It was then transformed into various bars over the years. The tavern offers craft beer on tap and American comfort food, such as Chorizo Queso Tots and the J-Dawg Burger.
Yooo so I had the J Dawg burger I believe it was. I honestly don't eat much red meat anymore and there were no issues, so they're pretty lean as well as super delicious 😋 Also those tots are truly the best I ever had, pretty large amount on all accounts for a nice price!!! Way to go ya'll and my compliments to the cook also ⭐️💜🤑

Great burgers, a passion for tater tots, and good dogs. - Stocking Street Burger: It is your average burger, but done right. Ordered medium with American Cheese. It was juicy good. The toppings were well balanced. It did not fall apart. The bun complimented well. - J-Dawg Burger: This was my favorite, but it had a minor flaw of falling apart. Ordered medium and it was medium. The burger patty was stuffed with toppings and sauce, a new trend I am liking. I’ve always been concerned if they fell apart and this was an example of one that does. A third of the burger fell out the back about two to three bites in. I put it back, but bummer. But that was the only flaw. They put a lot of thought into this burger and the taste was amazing and balanced just right. The burger patty was SUPER juicy good. The pretzel bun was a great decision on their part and really made it stand out well. - The Cooper: Basic chili cheese dog, but with really good cheese sauce. It was a little better quality beef dog and slightly bigger. The chili was a little above average. The cheese sauce, like with the J-Dawg Burger, is amazing! If you like hot dogs, you’ll like this place. Get two dogs and tater tots or fries are free! - Curry Tots: A monthly special that is only available for this month (August 2024). I believe they mainly added a curry spice to a mayo (don’t quote me on that, it might not be mayo). The grilled chicken was there, but the onion, red peppers, jalapeño, and cilantro were minor nuances, which were disappointing. A lot of the topping was on top only. The lower 80% didn’t have toppings except the left over. It didn’t seem as well thought out as a concept. That said, it was still delicious because I do like a little kick. - Poutine Tots: A regular menu item and it was delicious! The ingredients were well mixed in and well balanced (better than the Curry Tots). The egg was a great addition. The pork was a great addition. The cheese was stringy good. The gravy is the best part (it is made with flour, so gluten-free beware). - Tots (general): The bowl is small compared with the amount you get. It makes the dish look great, but it becomes a little difficult to manage if you want to mix in the toppings. The tots seemed fairly plain. Better than you’d get at the store, but not significantly enough to justify the price. Maybe ours were just a bit overcooked, but the inside should be a little fluffier and lighter. Again, I did enjoy the tots overall, but there’s still a bit of room for improvement. - Chips: Like most pubs. No one seems to make good house made chips. Maybe it’s me. - Fries: An extra $3 and worth it. Delicious. Nothing special. Just done right. Thin cut, warm to the end, fluffy center, good medium crunchy outside, but a bit salty (like many restaurants). - Service: Waitress was all business, but pleasant. We seated ourselves, were met with immediately, and she made sure we were taken care of and anticipated our needs. The food came relatively quickly without delays and was spot on right. I need a lot of water and though I usually ask for two, having only one was not a problem since she always made sure it was full. - Atmosphere: A little more polished for the neighborhood, but not overly. You can walk in with jeans or a suit and fit in. The emphasis on dogs is a little refreshing. I am not a dog person, but I can appreciate it to a degree. I think if you are a dog person, you’d LOVE this place. - Monthly tots special: I think this is what makes Blue Dog Tavern special and what really attracted me to this place. I watched them on Facebook for a few months and saw a couple of fun ones. I mentioned the Curry Tots a friend of mine who shares my appreciation for curry and he insisted we get there to try it. I thought the monthly tots were simpler and less thought out than I saw on Facebook, but I’ve only tried one. The regular tot options look more well thought out and fuller. Visited Wednesday 4:15-5:45 PM. Their menu on the website is current.

This was a fantastic local spot, within walking distance of the place we were staying in while visiting Grand Rapids. From the TV screen that was dedictated flipping through pictures of dogs, to the fun/interesting drink names that encouraged us to try something different, Blue Dog Tavern has more to offer than the "pub/bar food" you'd normally expect. The Cajun chicken flatbread and poutin tots were absolutely incredible! Definitely a great bar to check out when you're looking for a quick bite or a relaxing place you hang out for a bit!

Great food and service! We stopped here for a quick bite and were not disappointed!

While the food didn’t take very long, most of it was cold, and had the texture of being done for a while. At our table we had 2 fish- both of which were ice cold; two were chicken dishes, in which the chicken was fried and completely dry. The Mac and cheese was not worth the 4$ price- as it was barely half a cup. The kids meals were fine, the tots being the left out texture. We were hungry so we ate- but the area was so loud we could barely hear each other next to each other(not just the boisterous guests- the music was insanely loud). We were not given water refills and the staff only visited tables when folks walked in or needed the check. I had a dirty place setting after waiting 30 minutes for a table, and I used a kids meal to cover because I could not get the attention of staff. Would not recommend for a meal.

First time here at the Blue Dog Tavern in Grand Rapids ,Michigan . The place is incredible. We went out to the outdoor patio, WOW. The Atmosphere was out of this world. They took the empty building next door to the original Blue Dog Tavern and ripped the roof off ,and put cool old barn steel, and barn wood . Big chandeliers hang from I I-beams ,and also has a sit up bar ,and a great little sitting area . Good music was playing and a big screen TV. I almost forgot about the food and drinks. EXCELLENT. The tots were great with many options. Burgers were delicious 😋. Drinks and cocktails 🍸 were to die for . The Services was also great are waitress would check back frequently. If you're in Grand Rapids definitely go to the Blue Dog Tavern. You wont be disappointed.

My dog and I ate on the patio. They had to open a side door so the dog wouldn't walk through the restaurant. My family had some interesting tater tots. I had a decent small house salad with a nice little sprinkling of grilled chicken. They did have gluten-free hamburger buns.

Max's South Seas Hideaway is a tropical-themed restaurant and bar that offers an extensive selection of tiki-inspired cocktails and a diverse food menu. The venue aims to provide an immersive experience, transporting guests to a distant paradise with its two-story dining and drinking space. The menu features a variety of dishes, including poke bowls, chicken satay, beef bulgogi, drunken noodles, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. One of their specialty desserts is the Island Bread Pudding.
We had a great time. The kids loves the bonfire and the drinks we had were the non alcoholic and they were amazing. It was a little dark so you might need your flashlight till you get used to it. Out hostess told us all about the restaurant and the decorations. We did ask her about them. They have a fish tank upstairs. I should have taken more pictures but I didn't. We will go back again. The nacho fries were good too!

A very unique atmosphere. More importantly the food was delicious, tender. There spring rolls had the most delicate flakes wrap. Sauces were spot on. Service was great, the bartender explained everything that I asked and enjoyed watching my drink be made with pride. Id definitely go back and bring friends.

Dear Max’s, your staff, food, and drink, plus ambiance were amazing! I make it a point to visit tiki bars when travelling. While visiting family in Ohio I dragged my dad here from Toledo on a Thursday night. (what a drive and a half) The servers were a pair of young ladies, one gal had a Rum Rum, my darling shirt from the High roller tiki lounge/ Bettie Page rum from out in California which I immediately recognized, and thought was pretty badass! I didn’t realize the owners also had a SF location which explained a lot of the items I saw around the place 😊 Either way the food was superb! The portions were huge, and I wish I could have tried more. The drinks were top notch and again I wish I had a bigger stomach to try more. The servers hooked up my dad with a taste of a rum that they thought he would enjoy, since he’s a bourbon guy and it was both generous and thoughtful! I was absolutely exhausted by the end, and I regret not exploring the upstairs ( which we were invited to check out several times). I am not sure If they had any souvenirs for sale, nor did I see a swizzle… but I got a couple post cards for my tiki cabinet.

Amazing place! Hidden gem in Grand Rapids. The decor is superb and will transport you to an authentic Polynesian Tiki experience. The drinks are super fun and the drink menu is expansive! The food was spot on and we’ll definitely be back if we are ever back in Grand Rapids. Great date night or fun night with friends.

Great drinks (cocktails and mocktails) and food was amazing! Service was a little slow, considering it was a Wednesday and they weren't very busy. We ran out of drinks and water. But the atmosphere is great, and it was a fun time. I would come here again for sure.

Such a fun spot for a date night! Went here to celebrate our anniversary. Drinks did not disappoint. Lots of variety! Food was delicious. Atmosphere 10/10 - loved the fish tank and the art! Make sure to get a reservation!

This place seems like an oasis in a concrete city. If you ever wanted to go to a tropical environment and have a few drink drinks and maybe a few appetizers or food, this is your place. The staff was very friendly when we were greeted at the door and they continued to be friendly while serving us. They were friendly and helpful with giving advice on drinks and I imagine food if we had done so. I will say the drinks were strong. I am not complaining. I’m just letting people know. If you wanna get the most bang for your buck, this is definitely one of your stops. They had a wide variety of beverages to choose from. I am sure you will find something that will wet your pallet. The interior is unique in a way that you might not expect. It has multiple floors. The upstairs has a full see-through aquarium, which was very unexpected. The main floor has the bar along with little private cabana type rooms you get seated in for a small party. Overall, this place will be somewhere I come back to and try additional beverages or maybe some food.

As a tiki connoisseur, this has to be one of the best tiki bars I’ve ever been to. It’s on par with Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago and Tiki Tatsuya in Austin. This place might as well be part museum/exhibition of high tiki art. There’s a large collection of numbered Shag prints hanging casually on the way to the bathrooms, for example. I will be coming back here each and every time I’m in Grand Rapids or else I will have a temper tantrum and become inconsolable. In fact, I will travel to GR again just to visit Max’s. Also, make sure everyone at the table gets a bread pudding, otherwise fighting will ensue over bites. I loved this spot 💗🍹

Bar & grill
Grand Rapids Garage Bar & Grill is a laid-back spot offering American comfort food, an extensive selection of craft beers, and cocktails in a casual setting. The open-air atmosphere and long bar make it the perfect place to unwind with friends or catch a game. They have daily happy hour specials with half-off drinks and $5 appetizers, including sliders, queso dip, jumbo wings, sweet potato fries, hummus and pita, and more.
Whatever seasoning that is on the fries was A+! The Mac and cheese was nice. It was smooth and saucy but for 3$ extra if you add chicken there should be more chicken given. The burger was good as well. The restaurant is cramped and it's definitely a bar but the booth seats looked and felt new and the staff were polite
Caitlin M — Google review
Great food. Can be loud. - Build Your Own Burger - $14: Ordered medium and got medium-well, though it was still fairly juicy. Also ordered with American white cheese (no yellow?), lettuce, tomato, and onion. The toppings were fairly fresh and well balanced. I was not expecting the white cheese, but they confirmed it was white American cheese. Nothing major to write home about, but it was a decent burger without many flaws. - Kennebec Fries - (free with the burger): Thin cut and fried to a darker color and deeper flavor. They were SUPER salty even after wiping them and shaking them. Sounds like something unique, but was fairly common in experience. The waitress said the same. Researching this after the fact, it looks more like a particular potato that is bred for its fast growing, high yield qualities without losing much (if any) desired qualities for fries. - Chicken Tenders Basket - $15: I was recommended the chicken tenders by a friend. They were hot at first and difficult to gauge, but after cooling, they were spectacular. The meat was lean and high quality and the batter was spot on. - Roadhouse Steak & French Onion Soup - $7: My friend ordered this and said it was one of the best versions of this soup he has ever had. It had large steak chunks and a lot of them (the picture was actually of a very small chunk). I was also HIGHLY recommended the Mozzarella Sticks (Straight Pipes - $13), but did not try them this trip. - Service: We sat in the north half to avoid the music (fruitless, but we tried). We were forgotten at first and it took more than 10 minutes to get menus and water. After that, we were taken care of until we wanted our check to pay and leave, which took 5 minutes. When we were served, it was immediate and friendly. - Atmosphere: Garage mechanic like environment. Grungy and mild adult paraphernalia. I wouldn't recommend bringing children. The music is rock and similar pop and played loud at times. They did turn it down a bit when we requested it. You either like it or hate it. They stress hosting the best parties they can and I like a quieter environment. Some of the tables are wobbly, low, and plain. Some are tall. Some are chairs around a coffee table. Some are at the bar. Some are a lot of fun to sit around. There is a ton of variety with HOW you dine. There is also seating just outside the front door and a large heater above that keeps it reasonable to sit out there. I was surprised how well it kept it warm as we walked out. They also have a breathalyzer machine in the back of the north section to the right of the Harley-Davidson logo above the lottery machine (as seen in my picture). If you are concerned, you can use that. I don’t drink much at all so I cannot speak to those things, but that was unique. - Conclusion: Amazing food, but you've gotta like the atmosphere to enjoy the experience. The service can have loopholes that can be frustrating. I do get the vibe that this is a very popular hang out. Visited on a Tuesday at 5pm.

After a long day of sightseeing, I tried out Grand Rapids Garage. Talk about a great atmosphere, and my server was fantastic. I had their signature brisket sandwich, which was pretty good. But that salsa was fire. I don't know who came up with their salsa recipe, but coming from a salsa snoob, this was legit good. I will definitely be back again, because I was told to try their wings, next time.

Delicious comfort food in a fun, cozy spot! Grand Rapids Garage Bar and Grill is such a cute, quaint spot with tons of atmosphere. It has that cozy, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger. ✨ The chicken tenders? Juicy, tender, and cooked just right. ✨ The pickle chips? Over-the-top delicious—crispy, addictive, and a must-order! This is the kind of place that feels both fun and comfortable, and I’d definitely come back for both the food and the vibe.

A standard out meal, of a Poppyseed Salad with Grilled Chicken as a Protein. The salad was delivered so large I could only finish a little less than half. Great food selections overall and a fantastic kitchen. Everything they put out is top of best. The wait staff delivers with smiles and a welcoming touch. I just can not say enough. The owner, Kevin runs a Fantastic Bar & Grill.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Grand Rapids, Broadway Bar is a charming old-school tavern that has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors alike. Known for its inviting atmosphere, this neighborhood gem serves up hearty comfort foods like burgers and ribs, making it the perfect place to unwind after a long day. The bar's eclectic decor adds to its unique charm, especially during the holiday season when it transforms into a festive wonderland adorned with Christmas trees, snowmen, and other whimsical decorations.
If you're in Grand Rapids, you have to check out Broadway Bar! I recently had their Broadway burrito, and let me tell you, it was fantastic. The burrito was huge, packed with flavor, and the perfect comfort food after a long day. They load it up with tender beef, rice, beans, and the right amount of spice. The sauce they use on top is what really takes it to the next level—rich, savory, and just the right amount of kick. It's definitely something you won't want to miss if you're in the area. The vibe at Broadway Bar is super laid-back, with friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere. The whole place has this great dive bar energy, and their holiday decorations always make it feel festive. Whether you're just grabbing a quick bite or hanging out with friends, it’s a great spot. Highly recommend!

Outstanding neighborhood bar. Great burgers. Beverages are not overpriced. Love the Christmas theme. Music was classic 80s. All in all a great place to sit have a drink and be comfortable.

Such a great local neighborhood bar. The atmosphere is over-the-top with holiday decorations. The staff is super down to earth and friendly. The menu is limited and what is to be expected in a local bar. Caution, the music volume changes randomly according to the owner’s whims and is sometimes so loud you cannot talk to others at your table.

This is by far one of the cutest most friendliest bars in town. They decorate per every holiday and took a vote to keep xmas up year round. It's so amazing in there. It's a family owned bar of 30 plus years we met the nicest owner, daughter abd had the sweetest server Sandy. Ordered fries, Long Island and tenders 😋. It's super small and has about 5 rows of tables so reservations are definitely recommended. It's really the neatest little spot in the NW neighborhood. They are famous for there burritos. Love this place

Love this place. Family owned and operated. The food is great. I recently ordered a burrito. It comes out on a plate that is on a platter with carrying handles. It's that big. The burgers are wonderful and the fries are awesome. They have a large selection of beer, wine and hard liquor. The place is always decorated for the season. Staff is great. I always enjoy gong here.

The atmosphere is casual yet lively, making it an ideal place to unwind with friends or meet friendly locals who are always ready for a chat.
im shocked at all the low reviews im seeing because the food and service are amazing! the pulled pork fries are super crispy and the meat is tender and delicious. and the servers are basically running the whole place. they had 2 servers 1 cook and no manager or supervisor to be seen to help them out the nearly 2 hours i was there. im guessing bad management is why they cant keep more than 3 guys at a time.

Can't rate the food, there was none...the kitchen was closed. Sat at the bar, we ordered our drinks and the bar tender forgot about us. When he finally put his phone down and looked up, he realized his error (10 min. later). We were served our drinks in red solo cups. Not very Irish.

Went there for dinner, reserved but got there with a seat yourself sign. We found seat and noticed the available tables were dirty, after we sat down. Here's the review of the food and service. The service was fair at best. The food wasn't worth the $50 spent. The Bangers and mash were not good, the potatoes were cool and the gravy congealed. The Ruben was ok but the fries were greasy. The pretzel bites were greasy and the cheese dip was clearly old and crusted over. The pub was a bit dirty and very loud. The parking next door for just about an hour at Ellis was $9. All in all, not a do over.

Very disappointed …if I could give negative stars I would. If you are looking for something to eat don’t go here. I paid $13 for a tiny burger that I could have gotten from McDonald’s for less than $2. It wasn’t even freshly cooked. Pretty sure it was warmed up, over cooked on the outside. Big rip off for what I paid. And the posted hours, not even close. I walked around town waiting for them to open up at 3, posted hours, only to get there and have the waitress tell me that they opened up at 11am on Sundays. Close…when things are slow I’m informed. Unless you are just looking for a drink, can’t say anything about that as I didn’t have one, don’t bother coming here because the food menu is poor at best. I’ve had burgers at other bars that are AT LEAST twice as big for under $10. And cleanliness, the menu was dirty.
Matthew C — Google review
I gave it two stars because the staff was friendly and hospitable. Besides that everything was mediocre at best. Tiny menu to choose from, long wait which I'm hoping was because they are short staffed and not because they were busy; because they weren't. Tiny, low quality hamburger, on a plain bun with no condiments offered; I had to ask for ketchup and mustard and wait while they struggled to find some. Soft, chewy chips under the top layer of crunchy ones and a pop for $17. Very disappointed. The bun was excellent and toasted which was the highlight of my meal.
Lindsay O — Google review
Really really disappointed. Perhaps the worst Rueben sandwich I’ve ever had. CUBED not shaved corned beef. No sauerkraut, none to very little dressing and maybe cheddar cheese on it! WTH? We ordered pretzel bites as an appetizer and they came out with our meals. Oh and was told when given, we’re out of the cheese dip. WTH? Fish and chips were ok as well as the French fries. My draft beer was refilled in the same old glass not a new cold glass… Totally bummed out.

And I honestly don't want to say it but the youtube music was the only bad part of my experience of stopping by this great lgbtq community bar! I've visited this establishment three times over the past five years, hoping to find a safe and inclusive environment to enjoy a drink. Each time, I am left with a harsh reminder of why I choose to avoid this place. The owner’s attitude is incredibly off-putting and unwelcoming. My first negative experience occurred in 2021 when he abruptly kicked me and my service dog out of the venue. All while a purse dog of one of the bartenders off duty was at the outdoor table next to me. That incident left a lasting impression, and it took me nearly four years to muster the courage to return. Regrettably, my experience today was just as disappointing. During my visit, the owner harassed me on three separate occasions. He repeatedly commented on the extensive amount of money he spent on recovering the booths, which felt irrelevant to me. As that's an investment needed when previously the seats were duct taped together and the carpet smells of must. At one point, he rudely demanded me to take my feet down. It’s important to clarify that neither my feet nor my shoes ever made contact with his booths, which he claimed cost $16,000. I was sitting with my legs crossed. After the third instance of his harassment, I felt compelled to explain my situation to him. I told him that while my foot might have been hanging off the booth, I need to keep my leg elevated for medical reasons. I truly urge others to reconsider spending their money at this establishment. The lack of respect for patrons, especially those with disabilities, is alarming and simply unacceptable.

I absolutely love this place. It's my go to bar that I always go to on night out when I am looking to just chill and be myself. The staff are phenomenal and always give you such the best mood ever. I swear they always cheer me up. And you always feel so included. However, there is one thing I must complain about, and that is the owner. I am autistic and cannot help but move around A LOT in my space. I adore this bar because the staff make you feel so included and like ourself, especially for me as a queer individual. But my recent experience has definitely thrown me off. I got told not to sit on my legs/feet because he was concerned about "ruining his expensive booths" that he just paid to have redone. Look, I get it. You want to keep the place looking nice, but the way it was approached to me was not all that nice. I don't want to go into full details about it, but it definitely struck me and hit me somewhere in my feelings. Being autistic, I cannot help how I sit and sometimes feel more comfortable in specific positions. And I hate to say that severely hit me somewhere. It didn't necessarily ruin my night since I and my friends just ended up moving to the bar stools when seats were available, but it sort of told me a lot about where standards were. Again, I understand, but it also came off as wrong to me. I love this place, I really do. I love all the people that work here. They are so amazing and do so much and they deserve all the credit in the world. They are the reason I will keep coming back and why this review isn't lower than four stars. Please my babes, keep doing you. You will have my support all the way. But before you obsess over your expensive furniture wear that is for certain to be degraded over overhaul of business over the comfort of your customers, please approach this in a better way. It made me very saddened when I was told this, like I was doing something terribly wrong, when in fact, it's just who I am as a person. I can't sit "normally", and never in my life would I have assumed it was a problem. I have sadly reduced my review due to someone else having a similar encounter as me with “legs up on booths”. It appears to now be a universal issue thing and that I am not the only one encountering this. I understand wanting to keep the business looking nice, but running a business means making hefty purchases here and there. I don’t like how the fear of being verbally torn down by the owner is affecting apparently my and others’ experiences. So caution to those out there like me who can’t help themselves. Be aware. You might get an unexpected call out when you’re in the middle of a conversation to put your legs down. Staff are always amazing. But its sad experiences with the owner are bringing this rating below five stars.

Bar
Anchor Bar is a well-established spot located on Bridge Street in Grand Rapids West Side neighborhood. It stands out with its retro neon sign and giant anchor above the entrance. Despite the rapid growth of new breweries and restaurants in the area, Anchor Bar maintains its traditional old school vibe. The bar offers stiff drinks, intimate seating, and a nostalgic atmosphere that takes visitors back to an earlier era.
Had a 45-minute wait at the fine dining joint across the street and I was in the mood for a dive bar afterwards so we switched our game plan & went Dive Bar 1st.. Best, 45 minutes of the evening besides the steak I ate next door an hour later. The Anchor did not disappoint. Walked in and saw a casual assortment of regulars. Young Affluent professionals that got hooked on the joint in High School (you know the type) there was plenty of Joy in the group. 2 merchant Marine maritime ship captains fellas from Chicago sitting at the bar head there every time they come into Port. Not long after, our newest friends from Chicago offered a shot of mallort and; .... when in Rome I said and glad to have SMASHED it the way I did. I got it out of the way, yet had to fight with the aftertaste for about 20 minutes. The Blanco tequila helped get rid of it. My buddy had an old fashioned and I felt right at home. Long expansive bar with plenty of booth seating. Just when you thought you were comfortable, you realized it was because of the tunes... A fabulous jukebox with the perfect volume playing Creed AC/DC Don Henley, Joan Jett and some of the Commodores... Great vibe. I'll be back

This place puts the dive in "Dive Bar." An amazing fossil from before the Bridge Street gentrification project. I hope this place lasts forever. Sit near the front if you can. The closer you are to the rest room, the more pungent the smell. Classic!

I’ve been to Anchor a few times now, and it’s been pleasant during each visit. The bartenders seem nice enough, and the seating is comfortable. It’s definitely an old-fashioned bar, but that makes it all the more appealing these days. The beer is cheap too, so that’s definitely not bad. As long as you’re not looking for something fancy, I think you can’t go wrong choosing the Anchor for a drink.

I can't get enough of this place. Best value in GR and they don’t make weak beverages. Bathrooms leave something to be desired but they work so who cares. Become a regular and you're VIP if you're a good customer. The staff is the best. It’s like a family.

As always good atmosphere friendly helpful bartender ( I needed help with a phone charger cord) no problem. I am on bike so I have a backpack ( like many students in the area) no problem. Not like many Nazi establishments (steel cat ) in the area.

IDC, located on the second floor of the Amway Grand Plaza, is a speakeasy-themed rooftop patio that offers craft cocktails and a variety of wines and beer. Guests must obtain a code before entering this 'secret' bar. The venue provides a balcony view of downtown and has quick access. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making the experience enjoyable. However, some areas for improvement include uncomfortable seating at the bar overlooking Rosa Parks Circle and slightly overpriced drinks.
Love the vibe and the secret code is so fun! The outdoor seating is so nice and the cocktails were delicious. Staff was so friendly! Just an fyi: for groups larger than 6 they don’t split tabs!

While I wouldn't say that I don't care meets all the criteria for a traditional speak easy, it does make a modern effort at the concept with it's hidden location, "secret code", keypad, and unmarked door. Once inside you'll find the styling is light and chic. There's a nice balcony for outdoor seating and a limited amount of indoor seating. They offer a nice selection of original cocktails with fun names, but only bar nuts for snacks, so don't come here hungry. On this visit I sampled the Spicey Sidepiece, Give Me The Tea, The Mistress, and The Spicey Rodeo. Each were good in their own right and had their own distinct flavors. All four drinks were above average for the Grand Rapids area, but were a little pricey. It's worth noting that the spicey drinks were done exceptionally well as they definitely brought the heat, but it was pleasant and only lingered for a short while after the sip. I visited during non-peak hours and staff was sparse as expected, but our server was friendly and never seemed too far away. Overall, while I Don't Care didn't transport me back to the prohibition Era, it did provide a pleasant experience to have some of the better cocktails in the city. It's a secret too good to keep and I would definitely recommend finding your way there, I'll stop back as soon as I get the chance.

Loved the inclusiveness of mocktails! Thats what drew me in to visit. What had me stay was the atmosphere! I was alone on my first night of a road trip and just wanted to enjoy. THIS let me do that. Took a second to get a drink, but it was a holiday and they looked pretty steady. Hostess was very friendly! Worth checking out if looking for an early afternoon cocktail.

Very fun "secret" bar to drink and chill at. Make sure to sign up before you visit to get the door code! Nice view of Rosa Parks Circle. Plenty of outdoor heaters if it's chilly out, so don't worry about keeping warm. The most important part - the cocktails are excellent. We will definitely return to try some more this summer.

The atmosphere tells it all... i mean why else are you reading this???? Loved the drink menu... creative and refreshing. I had the "special of the day/week/month" or whatever it was good. Not very strong but great flavor. My sisters got the "spicy sidepiece" and said they were good .... strong and spicy fr. This is a great place to go literally got drinks with a group... good pregame kinda vibe. Good music.. but is kinda hard to hear with the street below and on the balcony. Definitely a good vibe. Def recommend.

While visiting Grand Rapids my son wanted to show us this very cool speakeasy vibe bar. We had dinner and wanted to stop for a quick drink. When we entered the code for access, we were told that we would have to wait a couple of minutes for seats to become available. This was about 7:30. There were two ladies ahead of us and they had to wait as well. As we're waiting between 20-30 people left the bar. As we saw workers coming and going we asked why we were still waiting and they said it would only be a couple of minutes more. At about 8:00 the ladies in front of us were allowed in. By that time there was a line of approximately a dozen people. Not even 2 minutes later the ladies came out and said that they now had a $10 cover charge for the DJ. I asked the person that seemed to be in charge and she said that a cover charge starts at 8:00. They kept us waiting until 8:00 so they could charge us a cover. What a scam! I announced very loudly to the the line of people that there is a $10 cover and the line disappeared. When we were asking questions they could have informed us of the cover charge, we weren't there for dancing, just a cocktail and the fact that the dispersed as quickly as it did, the rest of the people weren't aware of the cover charge either.

I was expecting a cool hidden gem in GR compared to night watchman or side bar and we got the most underwhelming experience ever. English garden drink was as bad as it possible could get. Guava lemonade tasted like someone just mixed country time with cheap guava syrup from Meijer. We couldn't even finish our drinks as they were terrible. The furniture was cheap metal stools with no thought or character whatsoever. The code process was not a thing as nobody asked for it. You just showed up and someone just let you in. This could've been a huge success and it just turned out to be a complete flop ...

Tucked away in the vibrant Uptown neighborhood, Pickwick Tavern is a beloved fixture in Grand Rapids that has stood the test of time. This classic dive bar invites patrons to enjoy a cold beer while soaking up its rich history and nostalgic ambiance. With much of its interior preserved over the years, stepping inside feels like taking a delightful trip down memory lane. Pickwick Tavern boasts an impressive selection of beers alongside a menu filled with mouthwatering options.
Very relaxed no frills dive bar. Don't expect fancy cocktails or a large beer selection, but if you just want a quiet place to grab a beer and chat with folks it's a great spot. The drinks are cheap ($8 for a pitcher of Foster's) and they only take cash but there is an ATM inside. One of the oldest bars in town!

Bistro Bella Vita, located in downtown Grand Rapids, offers a warm and airy atmosphere with a focus on farm-to-table Mediterranean dishes. The restaurant prides itself on delivering an exceptional dining experience with top-notch service, whether it's a casual meal with friends or an elegant chef's table dinner. The culinary team creates authentic recipes using fresh, natural ingredients sourced from local farmers.
Of course! Here’s a casual four-star review you can use for Bistro Bella Vita in Grand Rapids: Five Stars - Great Food, Great People, and Allergy-Friendly Too Really solid spot in downtown Grand Rapids. Bistro Bella Vita has some amazing food—especially their pastas and pizzas, which are definitely worth the trip alone. The pasta is always cooked just right, and the flavors are on point. I also highly recommend checking out their weekly specials. I’ve tried things there I normally wouldn’t order, and I’ve never been disappointed. One thing I really appreciated is how well they handled food allergies. The staff was super accommodating and made us feel totally at ease, which isn’t always the case at restaurants. The atmosphere is really nice—comfortable but still has that “special night out” feel. And the servers are excellent: friendly, knowledgeable, and just genuinely nice people. All around a great place to grab dinner. Will definitely be back!

We stopped here to grab a cocktail and sit outside since it was so nice out. We were greeted quickly and our server with the beautiful curly hair was really friendly. She helped my sister pick out a cocktail based on her preferences and gave us some recommendations. We didn’t eat any food because we just had lunch but I’ve heard their martinis were good so we wanted to come check it out. Both our drinks were delicious! I’m a sucker for a drink with a house made shrub! We gotta come back next time to try their food!

Wow! We had an overnight in Grand Rapids and found this restaurant while walking around downtown. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat without feeling “stuffy”. We chose to sit outside for our dinner, and the patio seating was perfect for the amazing weather that early evening. Our server was friendly and offered suggestions and made us feel welcomed. We ordered the bruschetta to split and it was delicious! I opted for a simple meal for dinner and the Margherita pizza did not disappoint! It reminded me of the pizza I had while in Naples, Italy. The dough was light and flavorful with just the right amount of sauce and cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese (forgot to snap a pic!) and she loved it! I tried a bite and the sauce was amazing with a hint of spice. Price is on point for the quality and amount of food you receive. Highly recommend!

The kale salad and prosciutto pizza were delicious! The beef brisket and black spaghetti dishes were well cooked but needed just a touch more salt and pepper to bring the flavors to life, but the server brought the grinders and we fixed that up in a jiffy.

I took my mother here for mothers day dinner. Everything was delicious. The black pasta with seafood, and the risotto rocked. Our server Kylee was awesome. We will definitely be back and request her again. Go here. You won't regret it.
Carlo P — Google review
We made a targeted stop here specifically for the bar program, and the experience was truly top-tier. The ability to grab a seat outside on such a beautiful day was a bonus, but the service quickly became the highlight. We were greeted instantly, and our server—who had the most beautiful curly hair—was genuinely friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. She served as an excellent mixology consultant, expertly guiding my sister to a cocktail that perfectly matched her flavor preferences. The drinks themselves were delicious. As a cocktail enthusiast, I was particularly impressed by the drink featuring a house-made shrub—a sure sign of dedication to a high-quality, inventive bar program. We didn't sample the food this time, having just come from lunch, but based on the stellar reputation of their martinis and the quality of our cocktails, we are already planning our return trip to fully explore the dinner menu. This spot offers high-end execution with a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.

We were at your amazing Bistro on Oct.5 with our son & granddaughter. Our wait staff was Lane & he was wonderful. He suggested a beautiful white wine for me (I'm Canadian) & it paired wonderfully with my meal. I wish I knew the name of my meal; it was just so delicious! It was a pasta wrapped in a circle with a delicious meat sauce inside & seated on a tomato-based sauce. Best pasta dish I ever had. If you know the name of the dish, please tell me. We all enjoyed our meals, filet minion, trout & a chicken dish, along with appetizers & tiramisu & crème boule that my granddaughter & I shared!!! I can't wait until we can return to the Grand Rapids area to enjoy another meal there! Wish I had taken pictures, but everything was so good, I didn't think of it!

Love this gem on beautiful Cherry Street! Stopped in today (July ‘25) to hang on the (dog-friendly!) patio and have a few bites. I enjoyed the catfish sandwich with fries and my friend had the nashville fried chicken sandwich with a side salad. The catfish sandwich with remoulade was very tangy & tasty and the slaw on the chickens sandwich added great taste and texture. I love this place and come in several times a year - 4 stars only because the prices are a bit high for essentially upscale pub food (although for a great product). I’ll be back again, just have to save a little to splurge on their patio!

this was our favorite place for the beer weekend we did. The service was excellent. We sat outside and the beer was excellent. We also has some smoked old fashioned and I think they may have been the best we ever had. The owner came out at one point and offered to do a tour which we did. He really gave us the backstory and enjoyed the service. We had the duck nachos which is their most popular item on the menu.

A charming brewery set inside a former church. We ordered two beer flights, truffle fries, poutine, and a bowl of pickles. The beer list had a solid variety, though a few we wanted to try were unavailable. The ones we did have were enjoyable. The fries and poutine were good, fairly standard. The pickles, while tasty at first, got too acidic and started to burn after a while. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was great, and prices were reasonable. I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in the Grand Rapids area.

I chose this restaurant for my birthday and we started with the wrong foot. My sister made a reservation and the hostess didn't have it on their system, so we just had to wait for a couple of minutes while they prepared our table. Once the restaurant door closed it made a loud noise and that was part of our soundtrack every time a customer walked in. 😳 Rather unpleasant. The venue was dark and the music was gloomy. I started with the lobster bisque and it was perfection, so good! I tried the lobster bites and they were a tad too salty for me. For main course I ordered the beef Wellington with mushrooms and mashed potatoes on the side, it was nice. Drinks were delicious and the 6 desserts I tried were amazing. Probably the best desserts I've had in town. The service was good. I'd suggest to take care of the musty odor coming from I believe the carpet on the lower floor I noticed on my way to the bathroom, which was impeccable.

I have lived all over the country and have eaten in fine dining establishments from coast to coast. This was probably the best service I have ever had. I'm here to tell you, it is an experience! The wait staff are complete professionals at what they do, with detailed knowledge of their delicious menu. They present the food in a choreographed manner that was just delightful to witness. The atmosphere is what you'd expect - dimly lit, tastefully decorated modern dining room. The food was delicious. My steak and lobster were both perfectly seasoned and cooked. The scalloped potatoes were to die for, I would come back just to eat those! All in all, a wonderful dining experience. Do remember this is obviously a very expensive place, think $300+ for two people. But worth it to splurge every so often if you can, I think! Highly recommended.

The Delicious Spot for a Special Occasion or Business Dinner If you're debating whether to eat here, just do it. I visited on a business trip and it was a standout dining experience. Here's a quick guide to making the most of it. What to Order: The star of the show is the 16oz Australian Wagyu steak—it’s an incredible cut of meat and cooked flawlessly. For starters, the piping hot cheese bread is a must-have, and the calamari is a great choice for sharing. The Atmosphere: This is a fantastic choice if you want an intimate setting. The noise level is moderate, making it ideal for quality conversation. It strikes a great balance between being upscale and comfortable. Best For: • Date Nights & Anniversaries • Important Business Dinners • Celebrating a Special Occasion The service was excellent and very attentive. While there are plenty of dining options in the area, this place delivers a premium experience that is absolutely worth the price. Highly recommend.

My husband and I came here for him to try Beef Wellington and to celebrate our anniversary. I thought it was sweet they had flower petals on the table for us. I did not like how dark it was, but it wasn’t horrible. My husband said the scallops were amazing, the beef in his beef Wellington seemed not to be seasoned and the peanut butter dessert he got was delicious. I enjoy the lamb, a pumpkin martini and the espresso cake! Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. We also liked the tablet menus that you could tap the item to see a picture and information on the items. Absolutely recommend for anyone questioning trying!
Britanie D — Google review
I really appreciated the friendly and attentive service — the staff were excellent, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. However, I was a bit let down by the food. The steak lacked depth of flavor and wasn’t as tender as I expected. As someone who has had extensive experience with Wagyu in Asia, I was particularly excited to try it here — but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The texture was limp rather than melt-in-your-mouth, and there was more sinew and gristle than I’d expect from a high-grade cut. For the price point, I was hoping for a more memorable dining experience. Still, it’s a pleasant spot if you’re looking for great service and a vibrant setting.

Thank you for the great time I had tonight! First time in Michigan and for my first stop I was not disappointed. Trendy food choices eclectic drink menu and the atmosphere was just delightful. The regulars at the bar spoke highly of this place and made our minds up for us on our first dishes here. I had the wagyu sirloin which was recommended along with the prime rib which was also ordered. Food came out quickly and it was crazy busy for a Monday night with at least one party waiting at a time for any table, bar or patio seat to open up. Amazing drinks, food, staff, and atmosphere! I got an espresso martini and my fiancé got the pink lotus. The tajin on the rim of the pink lotus was so good! The whipped feta served with focaccia was perfect. The pistachios and chives went so well with the spice of the n'duja vinaigrette. For my main I got the 8oz grilled Wagyu Sirloin with a red wine reduction, crispy onion flakes, jacked potato gratin, and garlic green beans. Absolutely amazing! It was my birthday and they gave me 50% off my meal. My fiancé got the 14oz ribeye with crispy yukon potatoes, grilled asparagus from Visser Family Farms, served with garlic butter, béarnaise, and chives. For dessert we got the chocolate mousse cake coffee with crème anglaise, chocolate hazelnut brownie, chocolate ganache, hazelnut praline crumble. The hazelnut praline crumble went so well with the richness of the chocolate. Everything was truly delicious and the staff was incredibly nice and accommodating.

Conveniently located on the west side of downtown Grand Rapids, it's a popular spot so keep in mind that parking can be limited, and you might need to walk a short distance. We visited on a Saturday with a reservation and were seated in the beautiful atrium room. The atmosphere was lively and bustling, which added to the energy of the night. The food did not disappoint! I highly recommend the whipped feta appetizer, so flavorful! We also tried the Wagyu beef tartare, salmon, pork shoulder, and the burger. Every dish was exceptionally well prepared and delicious. The garlic aioli with the fries is a must try. The cocktails were also top-notch, perfectly crafted and definitely not watered down like you find at some other places. All in all, a memorable dining experience. We'll definitely be back! ✨👌

The Winchester is a popular gastropub located in the East Hills Neighborhood, offering elevated bar food and a fun patio that's open year-round. The exposed-brick walls create a cozy atmosphere, and the menu features delicious wraps, salads, entrees, creative appetizers, and their famous Winchester burger. In addition to the indoor seating area, they have expanded their outdoor space to accommodate more guests. The patio offers shade and ambient lighting for a pleasant dining experience.
Amazing, moody pub vibe with excellent decor and year-round heated solarium! Excellent service and food. Breaded fried fish was packed with flavor (not grease!) and served with a craveable dill tarter sauce - seriously, we were fighting to dip our fries in that stuff. Also tried: French dip, wings, and Winnie Cooper and would get all again. Super find, thanks for being excellent!

Went for lunch with a coworker. Our waiter he did take our order but there was another woman that ran our food & seemed more on top of it. Tables are also close together. The food was good, fresh but the seasoning or cheese is this case was much. Truffle fries were amazing. Portion size to price didnt match well. All in all not a bad restaurant but not some place im going to explore again.

Traveled from out of town and was looking for a good quick bite. The waitress was extremely nice and attentive. Got the fried pickles for an appetizer and would highly recommend. We split the French dip and the naan club. Both were absolutely tasty. Had a salad with blue cheese dressing and the dressing was perfectly garlicky. Would come back here next time we are in town.

First time at The Winchester we split the nachos, which are small but flavorful. I enjoyed a burger and my girlfriend had the tikka masala, she was not overly impressed with the tikka masala. They have an expansive selection of beer and drinks. I would like to come back to try more of their menu.

Only came for drinks so we didn't get to experience the food. Nice large outdoor space to sit. Service was on the slow side, but that's what we were in the mood for anyway. Good experience overall. Update: Finally got a chance to try the food. Not great, not bad, worth a try. The Brussels are decent, and the French dip was flavorful but a bit small. The atmosphere is great, certainly will return and try some other dishes. The happy hour mule is good for the price. Consistent with my original review, service was pretty slow, but not terribly. Update 2025: Really liked the food we had this time! The burger is really good and reasonably priced. The chicken tenders though.... So good. Fries and chips just average but plenty good enough. Service was much improved as well, Jen H. was really great!

Absolutely wonderful experience! Went with my sister and got two appetizers, two entrees, one cocktail, and one dessert and were just barely able to finish. Each dish was incredible and had a lovely balance of multiple flavors, many of which you don't typically see together. We got the deviled eggs, izakaya street corn, smash burger, sweet corn gnocchi, and curry poached pear. Our waitress was lovely and attentive and made sure we enjoyed our experience at every step. We are from out of town but will be back regardless!

Thank you first of all to the Winchester for participating in the GR Vegan Chef Challenge! It's a great initiative and it was awesome seeing the turnout. The Winchester's submission, a corned beet Reuben, was fantastic and creative. The flavor, presentation, and quality were all fantastic. I'd definitely love to see it be a permanent addition to the menu! 😊

We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and had a delightful experience. We ordered the kimchi nachos and fried pickles as appetizers. The nachos are delicious but a tad spicy so beware! For entrees, we had the caesar wrap, french dip, pork sliders, butter chicken bowl, and drunken noodles. We all enjoyed our meals. The server (Yssa) was also super friendly and the perfect level of attentive - 10/10 on her service! We will definitely be back!

Great food and service. It is worth the wait for the food. However, my only critique for the chef is scale back on the butter please. But it was still an amazing meal. It was evident that the staff was busting their ass. For there was only 2 servers, a bartender and it seemed that the older gentleman was the owner. He was out cleaning tables which was good to see. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was eclectic and unique.

Cute little place in the heart of downtown. Patio is dog friendly and they give pooches a bowl of water along with treats. Staff is kind and keep checking on you to make sure everything is good. We had the custom pizza, spinach feta dip and the martini which were all great. Definitely a must visit while in grand rapids.

Server was great atmosphere was stellar!! The food had the potential to be great but it was cold my bill was over a hundred and my 3 year old daughter got burnt black chicken tenders witch was replaced with fresh ones a small recommendation would be to add some fresh garlic to the spinach artichoke dip and maybe serve hot food or temp the food going out because It was definitely cold!!

Food was pretty good, the nachos had great topping layering and made a bit of a mess. The dessert was my favorite part, Cookie Butter Banana Pie ❤️ Dog Friendly patio with a few notes. Public sidewalks aren't always the cleanest and my dog definitely found some of those long toothpicks used to pin a sandwich. There are only bar height tables, meaning your further from easy correction or control for learning pups. There was a dog bathroom station within 30 feet, which was convenient too.

Went for a girls night since I was in town (im from out of state) and had a really enjoyable time! The drink menu seemed a bit limited but it met the different needs we all had. And the food was delicious! Im probably going to talk about that whipped beer cheese for the rest of forever! I do wish they provided more chips and pretzels for the vat of beer cheese they gave you but its very awesome they give you an abundance of dip vs skimping like most restaurants. And the shrimp tacos?! 5?! Unheard of where im from. Full of shrimp too and very delicious! My one critique was they were a touch dry and could benefit from a crema of some sort (avo lime?). So good overall! Also, as an (apparently) elder millennial, i really appreciated the atmosphere. The music was good, and not too loud I couldn't have conversation with my friends. The server was very attentive and excellent too, which is refreshing as good service seems hard to come by these days. I really appreciated her. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Grand Rapids, and locals!

We were in town for a gaming convention. When away from home we like to check out the local places to eat. On our first day in town, someone recommended Brick and Porter. And .... after the first dinner there, we never went anywhere else. There was no reason to. I looked forward to coming here every night after the convention. The food was incredible. The prices were reasonable. BUT ... the servers were awesome! So friendly and personable. Maggie and Emma spent time talking and joking with us at the table at the same time being just awesome with their serving jobs. We come back to Grand Rapids every year for this convention and I am kind of sad that I have to wait another year to come back here. Maggie, Emma and Brendon are awesome (5 STARS to all)

Didn't eat, just had drinks, but the steak salad that the guy sitting next to me ordered looked delicious (he cleaned his plate!) The Chi Society cocktail was delicious. Service was good, but smiling once in awhile might make both our experiences/day better.

We have eaten here multiple times before shows. Tonight we were there with our daughter to see a concert later in the evening. Our appetizer came out super quick, but our daughter’s food never came out in the 45 mins we waited. Our server JJ was amazing and very apologetic, even though was not their fault. They comped our food. I want it known that JJ was fantastic.

This was a gem of a place we found by accident when in GR this weekend. It was a nice quiet place with excellent drinks. I had the old fashioned flight and it was very good. Great cocktails, amazing and unique part about about their cocktails is all the spirits are distilled and made there. From the vermouth, amaro, gin, vodka, bourbon and all the rest. Truly unique and delicious.

We came in on a Saturday evening, 7 of us and had made reservations online but honestly there were plenty of tables open when we arrived. We sat in that table in the front, left corner, which was nice since it was warmer there and less noisy. We were greeted right away and was told to sit anywhere we wanted. Absolutely delicious drinks, wow! The smoked chocolate old fashioned is a must. Two of us did their shots and were super impressed with them that one of us ordered another one! Food: chicken wings, hot honey chicken sandwich, BBQ Mac, chili. Chili was my least favorite item but everything was pretty amazing. Great quality and very flavorful. Dessert: home made apple fritter - OMG. It was tiny but DAMN. Prob THE best apple fritter I've had in my life. Just wow. So glad we decided on this place! A must visit if you're in town!

Food is out of this world. Beautiful set up. Was trying to do a tasting of their browns but the waitress tried to pass off a different spirit as a bourbon. It was obvious it wasn’t. I tried hinting I could tell it wasn’t. She insisted it was. I think she realized she goofed because they didn’t charge me for the flight. Sadly I never got to try the bourbon. Their straight whisky and wheat whiskey are good though.

The staff there the night of were also so helpful and extremely kind. The space is great for groups of any size and far enough from the main dining room that A/V was great. We visited Long Road Distillers after tasting the best cocktail in South Haven, MI. They have many summer cocktails that are sure to delight anyone, as for me, the Lavender Lemonade was a home run! ELK Brewing Grand Rapids is a cozy two-year-old brewery nestled in the Eastown neighborhood. The small, industrial-style tasting room features an inviting eight-seat L-shaped bar and indoor seating, as well as a pleasant outdoor patio. With frequent new beer releases, there's always something fresh to try alongside their staple brews like PB&J'ale'y and seasonal offerings such as Oktoberfest. The diverse beer selection caters to all tastes, with highlights including the flavorful PB and J AleY.
Nice cozy place. We had originally drove down to experience the place down the road but ended up tasting here. Nice selection and friendly people. I wish the menu chalk board had descriptions of the beers. You have to use the digital self rotating board on the side or the mobile menu. Good, light beers anyways

Honestly, with all the great breweries in GR, I don’t find the beer to be anything special. Service on the few occasions I’ve been has left something to be desired. I like their branding and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Also has board games available to play. I’ve never had any food here so I can’t speak to that.

Love these guys.. their Double IPA (Dankalisious) is staggering, PB&J is fun, and they always have cool beers to try. All are welcome, including your furry friend (in the outdoor area).

Large variety of beers that span all spectrums of styles. Really enjoyed the PB and J Ale’Y, it really captures all the flavor and smell you’d expect from the name. Bar area is small but there is plenty of seating at the surrounding tables. There is also a large outdoor patio which looks great for the warm months. Service is friendly and was quick for a Friday afternoon with only one bartender. Not sure why there is a complaint on pricing, it’s on par or below what a typical brewery would charge for a pour.
Mike R — Google review
I never get sick of going to Elk! It's a small brewery with a comfortable industrial atmosphere, indoor seating, and a nice outdoor patio. If you're looking to relax with a great beer, Elk is right up your alley! With new beer releases frequently, there's always something new for me to try when I visit. They obviously have some solid "staple" beers like their PB&J'ale'y, but they also release seasonal ones like their own Oktoberfest. If you're feeling reeeeally daring, give the Hopanero IPA a try... It's definitely an experience! They have large tables and board games available for entertainment and a couple TVs that I've seen running anything from the food network to baseball. The staff interacts with their customers when things are quiet, but are absolutely attentive to pouring for thirsty guests. Don't pass this place up! It may be a small brewery, but they've got big flavors inside!

Assorted food vendors. Prices are pretty inflated at most places we visited. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the walleye fish and chips meal and the smoked salmon from Fishlads. I enjoyed the boneless wings from the Juju Bird and Brian was friendly. I would definitely skip tacos from Tacos El Cunado. No one was present and I ordered myself on a kiosk. The girl came back after and I asked to add lettuce and tomatoes to the tacos and she said okay. Luckily I looked before leaving and it was only beef in a tortilla. I ordered 2 tacos at 4.00 each and chips and salsa and guacamole for an additional 3.75 and somehow my order was over 17.00 . Food below subpar. I would also skip the lemonade at the Chewie Bitez as it tasted of fake powder lemonade definitely not fresh and ran over $17 for 2 without having any Boba in them, the huge brownie was also days old( dated) and extremely dry. The chocolates from Loves ran $3 per tiny piece but my kids really wanted to try them. Although they were beautiful they were extremely over priced for the quality and size. The kettle corn from Dorothy and Tony's was very good.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market is a lively food hall with a mix of local vendors and more commercial offerings. It features a cheese bar with a good variety of cheeses and a large selection of wines, making it a great stop for cheese and wine lovers. The market also includes a bakery, various food vendors, a spice shop, and a place for handmade soap, offering a nice mix of specialty items. However, some visitors might find that the market leans a bit more toward commercial products than expected, rather than purely artisanal or locally crafted goods. Still, it’s a fun place to explore, grab a bite, and shop for unique ingredients or gifts.

A couple bakeries, some restaurants, a wine store a cheese store, a butchery and a fish monger are all some of the things available inside. The restaurant's modern Spanish cuisine and lavish cocktails are complemented by its sleek design and personalized service. With tiered seating, private rooms, and a balcony for eight, MDRD provides an upscale dining experience.
We had a lovely first visit. It was as expected after hearing nothing but high praise since they first opened their doors. We planned a birthday celebration, noted on our OpenTable reservation and received well wishes all throughout our service. We were seated in a private space overlooking the city and were treated with respect and welcome! The food is all top notch quality and flavor and preparation and presentation! All of these details made our first visit an outstanding memory, especially for a milestone birthday of a deserving family member! Our service was wonderful and pleasant and easy going. We appreciated being treated to a high-end experience with a comfortable approach. (We were sure to wear the appropriate business/casual specified on our reservation confirmation but did notice on our way out that other patrons wore more casual attire. I applaud the openness but always like to know how to feel most suitable. Overall, we were definitely glad to not be surprised when we arrived and felt our occasion warranted a dressier vibe.)

Quite the dining experience in Grand Rapids. The view was incredible - and the restaurant is designed to give almost every seat a view (very impressive!) Tapas style dishes were extremely flavorful. Perhaps not fully authentic but not in a bad way - their twist on Spanish food is quite a good take. Drinks were fantastic as well. Definitely will go back - albeit likely for a special occasion.

Best views in Grand Rapids. I absolutely loved this very chic restaurant. The flamenco reserva drink was so refreshing. The food presentation was a surprise. Very beautiful and explosion of flavors in your mouth. We really enjoyed the appetizers, we ordered the wild boar empanadas very tasty. We absolutely loved the spiced ginger carrots. So flavorful with a hint of spicy in it. The pepino salad was a nice surprise if you love pickled foods. The only reason I gave a 4 rating was because the Wagyu steak lacked flavor. The limon dessert Wowww what a fun experience! so delicious!!! Overall we had an amazing experience and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Very romantic. Our reservation was at 7:00 p.m. so the Sun was shining very strong on our table. They do have shades if needed. Our waiter Jeff was so knowledgeable. He explained every single entree with every detail. He did a great job. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. We ordered a nice bottle of tempranillo overall our bill was not a shocker. About $300 for the spanish amazing experience. Worth every penny.

One of my favorite restaurants to celebrate a special occasion. Food, service, and views are always great. Menu changes often though. I am sad they got rid of their beef tartar tapas and dry age ribeye steak entree. As a new resident to the Grand Rapids I have slowly been working through suggested coffee shops and this one did not disappoint. Upon entry, the initial space is cute and cozy with a fun electric sign. The staff greeted me right away and were ready to take my order. Very friendly and professional! I ordered an iced brown sugar cinnamon cold foam, which I learned the cold foam changes day to day. The coffee was tasty and the drink was made quickly. I also ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese that is outsourced from Terra Bagel. They had their own toasting station which I appreciated! They have additional seating on a lower level that offered a variety of options with ample plugs for electronics. As a first time guest I enjoyed my time here and will be returning!

Amazing people and awesome coffee. The downstairs seating area is super cozy and cool. All of their coffee is great- even the batch brew. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into their menu; as well as their coffee which they source themselves! Not to mention they make their own oat milk and recently perfected it. Their old stuff was good, but the new recipe is amazing!!

The coffee is okay and the atmosphere is cool, but if you can't afford to buy something, this isn't the place. I had been going here every couple weeks to write my book, since the library has weird hours on Sundays. I won't be going back since they told me I have to make a purchase to use their space. I get it, but I'm also a broke writer and college student and I just wanted somewhere nice to write. Clearly that isn't here.

They have the best everything bagel in the city (I mean LOOK at that thing) and a darn good latte. The only thing I have against them, and it’s tiny, is they need a new toaster. It seems like a really nice one, but also veeerrryyyyyyy slow. Don’t let that deter you though, thoroughly my favorite place!

Discovering the perfect location to satisfy your craving for Chicken and waffles should not be a challenging task. After thoroughly examining 2361 restaurants in Grand Rapids on Yelp and Google, along with studying 823905 restaurant reviews and 52 lists and articles from Experience Grand Rapids and Gayot: The Guide to the Good Life, we have compiled a comprehensive list. One notable establishment that stood out is The Friesian Gastro Pub.
POUTINE WEEK! September 13-28 on Michigan St in Grand Rapids. - Braised Short Rib Poutine (GLUTEN-FREE!!) - $20: It was the only gluten-free option we could find. Poutine has gravy which is typically made with flour, but can be made with corn starch. They have a gluten-free option which is basically without the Mint Gremolata (which we didn’t want anyway). It was the last serving of the night since they ran out. It was VERY good, so I can see why it ran out. The hand-cut fries were medium shoestring cut and were mainly soaked in the gravy. The texture wasn’t too bad for what it sounds, though. The braised short rib was the main player in the dish. It was very tender and you could tell they went all out. The cheese curds were classic poutine. I thought there wasn’t enough when looking at it, but was actually spot on (there were actually a few leftover at the end). The citrus crema was potent by itself to the taste, but once stirred in, a wonderful nuance. I am seriously considering it as first place, but the price tag was $20. It was a good value, though for sure! It was a large plate!! - Diner Style Smash Burger - $18: Also, I have been wanting to try their smash burger. Couldn’t resist. The smash burger patty was high quality and cooked right. The bacon was thick and tasty. The toppings were also higher quality and well balanced. The cheese was slightly on the lighter side, but worked in this case really well. I was really looking forward to the Nantucket bun, but the sesame seeds were a bit over done. The bun was good, though. - Service: We were allowed to choose our own seats. Some of the tables were not yet cleaned up, so it was a little slim pickings. The waitress was very positive, knowledgeable, and helpful. There was a mix-up about the poutine. We wanted gluten-free and it was not understood the first time, but it was noted and corrected BEFORE it was actually made. I wasn’t too excited to use the online menu, though. It worked for us since we already knew what we wanted. - Atmosphere: Darker industrial feel with wood accents. There was softer and quieter music in the background and it was a great quiet place to stop. We dined indoors, but there is outdoor dining out back or on the ROOF! - Conclusion: This place has a lot to offer! The exterior is a bit deceiving. It is amazing on the inside. It is clean and professional. The food is high quality and at a fair price. It is a little more expensive, but it is worth the price you pay. 6:30-7:30pm Thursday September 19, 2024.

One of my favorite restaurants. I love that they change up the menu regularly. And as a celiac, they are somewhere I feel super safe eating (and can actually have fries since they have dedicated fryers!). Their GF carrot cake is amazing and it's rare I order a dish that I don't love. Also very much love the rooftop dining in the summer.

I went here like a year ago and I’m still thinking about how good the food was. Vegan nachos and mac and cheese… Great drinks too
Eden S — Google review
The food was delicious! It’s my new favorite spot in Grand Rapids.
Marianne D — Google review
Nice little place. Food was good but on the pricey side. We did get a generous portion though. Quiet, nice decor and clean. Definitely worth a visit, and don't hesitate to try the French Dip! Update 2023: Visited for brunch today and it was excellent! Both the Corned Beef Hash and Breakfast Burrito were delicious. The bottle of bubbles is reasonably priced as well.
Nathan B — Google review
The outdoor patio was impressively upscale and warm! We had a great time and were extremely happy with the food. Everything was spiced well and served beautifully. It’s definitely in a spot of GR I haven’t ventured much before, but may be the place that brings me over more regularly.
Chase H — Google review
The food value was not equal to the price tag. For 2 people we spent just over $106 which included tip. I ordered the brisket and my girl ordered the steak. The brisket was mostly fat and the spices were pretty intense. We were offered a different bbq sauce which ended up costing $1 for a tablespoon or so of sauce. Her 12 oz New York Strip didn't look anything like the pictures online. It literally looked like a green mess. It was fairly tough with a bit of gristle. The desserts we're very good and the service was also very good. If not for those two things the restaurant would have received between 1 star. Disappointed.

We were drying the night in Grand Rapids and decided to give the Friesian a try. I made a reservation, though on the Tuesday evening we went, it was unnecessary. The decor was nice and the restaurant clean. Service was friendly and quick. We started with drinks and the Frites and Fondue, which I highly recommend. I mean how can you go wrong with a pile of truffle fries and melted cheese? I got the double smash burger with a side of vegan Mac and cheese, Maggie got the torchio bolognese. Now maybe it’s the west coast in me, but a good burger needs some aioli or sauce or something. This burger was by no means dry, but it lacked a little zip. Unfortunately, the vegan Mac and cheese lived up to its name and had virtually no flavor. We took it home to my sister in law who loves bland food and she enjoyed it. The torchio bolognese was on point. A large portion gave leftovers for tomorrow. All in all, I’d come back again. There’s a lot of menu to explore and the drinks were strong.

If you're looking for a casual sports bar with TV screens and bar seats, Bob's Sports Bar is the place to be. They offer Chicago-style food and team trivia nights, so you'll never be bored.
There was a game going on when I stopped by Bob’s, and it was quite busy. I was able to get a seat at the bar thanks to a friendly patron, and the bar was quite nice. The beer selection was decent and prices were cheap, and there was a festive atmosphere in the place. The bartender was quite to-the-point, but they were quick in the busy crowd. This is a good, comfortable place to enjoy a drink in a casual environment. I’ll definitely be back.

Before there was ever a Uccello's or Buffalo Wild Wings, there was Bob's Sports Bar on Michigan NE. This is the OG of sports bars. I highly recommend this small joint for its authentic, down-to-earth feel & great food. The food is on point, be it the Bob's Famous Breakfast Sandwich, The Whiskey Burger, the Chicago Hot Dog or the best pickle pizza in GR. Bob's provides a living room type atmosphere to watching any game for the avid sports fan.
Kurtis H — Google review
1/3 lb. Whiskey Burger was great. $2.00 Up charge on the onion rings wasn’t bad. Cold beer with PBR on draft. Exactly the kind of spot that I look for. Gail, the bar tender, was spot on and friendly. Will return the next time I’m up this way.
BMadd — Google review
We were recommended here by a friend and we were not disappointed! The jalapeño rangoons and wings were phenomenal! This is now one of my new favorite sports bars to come to. There were plenty of TVs to watch March madness (last Friday)! And despite how busy it was, the bartender was very nice and attentive! Thanks again! We will be back!
Samantha L — Google review
My first time there I had a hamburger with fries and it was great. The service was good. Very reasonably priced. Second time there, service was mediocre … at best…waitress didn’t check on me until I was finished, spent lots of time talking with the other waitress. I’m not a drinker, was just there for lunch, had a hamburger basket which was good. Not sure if she was taking good care of the other customers but heard her say “sorry about that “, which is a big turn off for me as it sounds so condescending…so can’t really say if they were receiving the same kind of service. Other places close by where I can get lunch so probably won’t be back.
Matthew C — Google review
Great local watering hole. You'll find bar food and good drinks, with smiles. I went in a Wednesday and they had 2 hotdogs and pint for 6$, while having trivia night. It was packed, and I can see why! Bartender was very friendly.

Cocktail bar
SIDEBARGR is a classy and intimate bar in Grand Rapids that offers a selection of seasonal, handcrafted cocktails, as well as wine and beer. It is considered one of the area's first true cocktail bars, with a tiny basement setting that exudes intimacy and dedication to crafting exceptional drinks. The cozy 18-seat bar provides a warm atmosphere where the staff excels at creating delicious cocktails tailored to individual preferences. Additionally, between 4-6 p.m.
This place is excellent. The ambiance is quaint, charming and very romantic. The red lighting on the night we went was a nice touch. Wonderful, unique drinks. I had the Chad special. Also, shoutout Chad he had a great, off the cuff drink for me. If Chad is your bartender please compliment his shades they’re fire.

The best cocktail bar in GR ! The folks know their game and can make any drink you ask. Recently expanded their seating capacity which is great 👏🏽 Everyone is very passionate and makes great drinks !
TJ T — Google review
Absolutely loved our experience at SidebarGR — hands down the best speakeasy in Grand Rapids! From the moment you step in, you’re transported to a cozy, classy hideaway that feels both exclusive and inviting. What really stood out was the bartending — not just the skill, but the passion. After hearing the bartender’s take on the Old Fashioned, I let him make it his way — and it might be one of the best I've had. Balanced, bold, and beautifully smooth. Two of my friends described what they were in the mood for, and the bartender crafted custom cocktails for each of them — both drinks were spot on and had them raving the rest of the night. If you’re in Grand Rapids and want a cocktail experience that goes beyond the ordinary, SidebarGR is a must. Expert mixology, great atmosphere, and personalized service that makes you feel like a regular — even on your first visit.
Jason P — Google review
Definitely the premier cocktail bar in Grand Rapids. This bar transports you to a more simple time where the Speakeasy reigned supreme. It’s a cozy venue, where you may want to consider a max group size of 4 people unless you’re willing to split up. Every time I’ve visited, the staff has been friendly, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. It’s very clear that this bar is a great startup for bartenders who want to create their own drinks, menus, and abstract cordials for cocktails and move up to other bars to hone their craft. No complaints there, it helps that the menu rotates with the seasons keeping things fresh. Yes it’s dark inside, yes it’s fairly loud when many people talk at once, yes it’s cozy, but none of that matters when you take the first sip of your drink. Not every drink is a 10/10, but among the menu you will find your 15/10, and have a great time with friends or the staff. Prices are well adjusted compared to other bars in Grand Rapids. NEVER be afraid to ask the Bartender to surprise you with a drink. Ask them for something off menu they’re working on perfecting, ask them to make their favorite drink, ask them for something funky and refreshing. They will deliver.
Cody S — Google review
I rated this a bar a 5/5, I’d leave 10/10 if I could! The cocktails were so phenomenal, I couldt wrap my mind around it! I can be formally picky, but every single cocktail the bartenders made were phenomenal! They listened to my picky preferences, recommended drinks, and they were exactly what I could’ve never thought to ask for! Amazing bartenders! Thanks again for making experience better than I could’ve imagined here! Don’t be afraid to tell them any “picky” preferences! These bartenders know their stuff and can find something for anyone!
Samantha L — Google review
What a beautiful place to sit down and take a drink it is small but in a cozy way and the drinks are amazing and well thought out as well as the service is incredible we were taken care of almost immediately and checked in on frequently. I would absolutely recommend coming here for a sophisticated drink and relax area.
Sammi V — Google review
Sidebar is one of those places that always enhances the night. The drinks are always on point. Well crafted and delicious. Good luck trying to stump the bartenders. Their cocktail game is top notch. If you can dream it, they can make it type of atmosphere. Absolutely worth while to stop in and spend a little time here.
E B — Google review
Certainly a hidden gem! Recommended by the bartender at a similar location, when we got there it was immediately apparent this was the place to be. Small(ish), not overly crowded, cozy, perfect lighting - all around great atmosphere - bartenders made us feel welcomed and were most engaging. Menu features some very interesting cocktails - all delicious - watching Drew and Noah craft each cocktail was a treat in itself! Added to the top of our 'go to' list when visiting GR!

Accessible through the hotel, this hidden gem boasts great bartenders ready to impress with delightful cocktails and a modern Dutch-accented menu featuring local beers.
Absolutely loved the food, drinks, and vibe! The cod? Flaky, flavorful, and simply amazing with the aïoli. The steak? Melt-in-your-mouth amazing! And the Old Fashioned—it was on pointe. This place ia a hidden gem. Can’t wait to come back for more!

Went here for drinks. Every drink was wonderful, we were a group of 11, and got lucky to walk right in on a Saturday night! I wish i would have more photos of the skyline and the overall atmosphere inside of Knoop. It was great. Since we were a larger group, we basically tried most of the drinks and loved them all!!

Went here after work to celebrate a Bday. Drinks and food here were great. Lovely rooftop atmosphere. My qualms: the waitress had to come back several times tell one of us that they were out of something ordered. To be out of half the things on the menu @ 4PM on a Thursday was a little shocking but we brushed it off. The waitress asking if we wanted our checks multiple times when we were actively still ordering and eating was a bit off putting.
Jo — Google review
Great ambiance, perfect spot to chill, connect with friends or even make new ones, lots of heating options in the outdoor seating area, with a gas fireplace as well, food was great Wagyu Burger was phenomenal
Guibson P — Google review
A great rooftop to spend the afternoon eating and drinking. Our server was very helpful with our drink selections and never steered us wrong. They were all excellent. The food was perfect as well. It took us a while to get a reservation, so book early. It's a busy spot, and it deserves to be.
Mike T — Google review
I enjoyed my sandwich and salad. The lamb chops my wife had were very full of grissel and they over saturated her drink with the lime. Outside of that it is a pretty location to dine but I would recommend better lighting on the balcony and for more knowledgeable wait staff. When we placed our order the host didn't ask us if we wanted a table inside or outside and the young lady that served didn't seem sure to know if we needed to go to the bar for service or is she had to serve us at first which is bad form.
Darold H — Google review
Knoop is the hip new rooftop joint in GR, on top of the new hotel Canopy by Hilton. They have indoor and outdoor seating, both tables and lounge style. We sat outside in the lounge. There were some bugs, but it was tolerable and we were outside, so what do you expect? The menu is focused on German and Dutch cuisine styles like pretzels, sausages, and meatballs. There also some great seafood and salad options in addition to standard fare like burgers. Everything has a modern flair to it. While the menu is limited, there's something for everyone. Their signature dish is "Rooftop Chicken", a modern European take on chicken and waffles. I had the lobster quesadilla, which was fantastic. They have an extensive drinks menu with a rather large and unique cocktails list. Cocktails are pretty fancy, with fun presentation and premium ingredients. Also good wine and beer options, with local flights available. Usually it takes a little bit for new restaurants to get the kinks worked out, but everything was running smoothly for us from the get go. We got seated immediately, got drinks and apps promptly, our server was attentive and pleasant, service on the whole was top notch. Prices are a premium, but that's to be expected at a swanky new rooftop joint downtown. If a couple each gets a drink and entree and share an app, you can expect to spend 80 bucks-ish. Overall I'd recommend it, especially as a great date spot for conversation.
Drew L — Google review
Wouldn’t go here again. View is cool but drinks were basic and way overpriced for what you are getting. We also ordered their homemade garlic knots which tasted like they were great value frozen ones heated up in the microwave (also way overpriced). Really bummed. I think the reviews and prices are so high because of the atmosphere alone not based on what you get.

Mertens Rooftop, located above Mertens Prime in downtown Grand Rapids, offers a picturesque setting for enjoying summer sunsets. The rooftop is adorned with French canape couches, colorful chairs, and patterned rugs that create a Parisian ambiance. Guests can choose from an extensive selection of Spritz options or opt for a custom-made Spritz while basking in the sunshine.
This amazing restaurant is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. I give this restaurant a five stars! (I don’t give a five star review often). The manager Laura went above and beyond expectations. I would go back to Martens rooftop just for her service alone! Don’t miss this beautiful venue. I will be back and have told many people of this fine dining restaurant!

Definitely going to be my new hang out spot this summer. It was my first time visiting with some friends attending a wine tasting and I had a blast. The people doing the tasting with inviting and knowledgeable, the staff was attentive and friendly and management was so welcoming. The food served with the wine was delicious! Can’t wait for the rooftop to open in April!
Michaela P — Google review
Mikkel, Aiden, and Gabby were super friendly and outgoing. Very cool vibe at the rooftop bar. Awesome views. But the staff really made this experience. Very nice to have outgoing workers in a day and age where you don’t get that much anymore. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven’t.
Robert S — Google review
We've visited Mertens Rooftop before, but had the unique privilege of visiting today with no other patrons. The views and summer breeze are second to none in GR, an excellent experience. We have not tried the food, so we cannot comment on that yet. If Mertens proper is any indication though, it's likely awesome. While a bit on the pricey side, the spritzers are unique around here, so it's fun to try the different flavors. The service was good, even with a trainee on her first day, we were impressed by the speed and attention.
Nathan B — Google review
The glazed pork belly was piping hot and absolutely delicious melt in your mouth. Their Goat cheese salad is sooo yummy. Our server was attentive and the atmosphere was absolutely gorgeous. We definitely enjoyed our elevated dining experience. 10/10 we will be returning ♥️
Vxga — Google review
I didn’t eat (there’s an abbreviated menu on the rooftop from the main restaurant on the ground floor I’m told) but service is friendly and it’s a novelty to have a cool view of the city skyline. It isn’t very big so be prepared to stand or be turned away on some occasions. Prices are a bit higher (~$10 for a 16oz can of Pilsner Urquell) but that’s an expected and acceptable tax for the view IMO. It can be quite lovely up there.
Michael B — Google review
We came in to have some drinks and to enjoy the roof-top view but sadly it was closed for a private event. We ended up being seated in the main floor area. The history of the building and the setup are pretty cool. Drinks are tasty and strong! We paired our drinks with 2 different kinds of poutines, they offer 4, and nothing special, but can’t beat having some good fries with toppings.
FiTFaM — Google review
Great view but honestly not worth it. Service was slower than a snail race. Came here to celebrate birthdays having high expectations bc of reviews. But manager was great to comp 2 desserts and an app but again not worth it. No heat warmers so be prepared and bring a jacket.
