Napier Museum, located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a 19th-century architectural marvel housing archaeological artifacts, historical relics, and art pieces. The museum features royal seats with Chinese engravings, a musical bow in mahogany, colored windows, and intricately painted and carved rosewood ceilings. Situated near the museum is the Kanakakunnu Palace which was once used as a summer retreat by the Travancore royal family to entertain guests.
Napier Museum: Where History, Nature & Calm Come Together 🏛️🌿🕊️ It’s an experience that deserves an entire day to truly absorb. Spread across a huge, well maintained space, the place is spotlessly clean and beautifully organized, offering a calm escape right in the city. The museum itself is free to enter, while the adjoining zoo entry costs just ₹50, which also includes a locker facility for bags and even plastic bottles a thoughtful touch for keeping the space clean. The zoo is expansive, and right outside, a small café serves as the perfect refresher after a walk. What makes this venue special is the balance it offers: while the exhibits and zoo engage your curiosity, the grounds themselves invite you to slow down. There are plenty of shaded spots and tree-side seating areas, making it easy to pause, rest, or just take in the serene atmosphere. Despite the outside heat, the entire space feels naturally cooler, adding to the comfort. Whether you’re interested in history, looking to enjoy a day amidst nature, or simply searching for a peaceful retreat, Napier Museum is one of those rare places where you can do it all at once.

Napier Museum is a must visit destination in Trivandrum. It is well maintained and the building in itself is a work of art. The displays throughout the museum are quite interesting and will keep you intrigued throughout your visit. Taking videos isn’t allowed but you can happily pose for pictures and capture the history of the displays with your camera. All in all a great place to visit with your family and children.
Akanksha M — Google review
The Napier museum has several other prominent places to see like the zoo around the same area. The museum is housed in a unique building 🏫 with ample greenery surrounding the place. Excellent 👍 artifacts dorn the museum including a great collection of ivory pieces. Just outside is a collection of paintings along with a royal chariot. A canteen is also there with some good food just behind the hall with the paintings 🎨

The ticket price is 200 rupees for foreigners while it's only 30 rupees for local Indians, so it's almost 7 times more expensive than locals for me. But I decided to look around inside, and it's worthwhile visiting just one time while you are in Trivandrum. Most importantly, I have met so many beautiful locals who were so curious about me taking pictures together with them, what a memorable time mingling with genuinely welcoming Indian locals. Again it's a lovely wooden house containing lots of artifacts from thousands yrs ago or unknown periods etc, and interestingly I noticed they had some Indonesian artifacts too.
Pam F — Google review
Atmosphere is nice, nicely maintained garden. Inside is a bit old, some of the beam concrete have already fell down from the ceiling. You can look into the past there are some ancient artifacts. Also there's a dedicated staff to guide us through them. You can take photos but need permission to take videos!!! Idk weird, anyways spend some good time there, won't be disappointing.

Step into a captivating little room where history and artistry collide! This enchanting space is alive with stunning artwork that spans centuries, each piece a testament to the incredible skill and craftsmanship treasured by rulers of the past. If you have a passion for art, this is an absolute must-visit destination that promises to ignite your imagination and leave you in awe!

Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram is a beautiful place full of history and art. The architecture itself is stunning — a mix of Kerala and Gothic styles. The museum is surrounded by a peaceful green park, perfect for a walk after exploring. Inside, you can see traditional Indian sculptures, ancient ornaments, and rare archaeological pieces. A great spot to learn about Kerala’s rich culture and relax at the same time. Entrance fee is 200 rupees.
Alexandr — Google review
Napier Museum is a historic and beautiful landmark known for its unique Indo-Saracenic architecture and peaceful garden setting. It houses an impressive collection of ancient bronze and stone idols, ornaments, ivory carvings, and cultural artifacts. Located next to the Trivandrum Zoo, it’s affordable and easily accessible. However, some exhibits lack proper lighting, clear labeling, and maintenance. Facilities like restrooms and signboards could be improved, and it can get warm or crowded at times. Overall: A must-visit for art, culture, and history lovers — charming for its architecture and heritage, though slightly outdated in presentation.

It is the first Thematic and Interactive Museum in Kerala, showcasing various aspects of the culture and heritage of the state. Apart from maintaining a museum of international standards it is also spearheading the initiative for bringing professionalism in the modernisation of the existing museums and the setting up of new museums in the State and Central sectors.

I visited this place for my 2 year old as it would help him understand some species up close and would help him when he goes to the zoo. Also it is inside a building so he will be able to walk a lot without much crowd. We went on a Saturday and rainy day. There was very little crowd almost 20 people or so. He loved the exhibits especially the wild animals but was afraid of the skeletons. He ran a lot from one exhibit to another and would address most birds as crow. He knew lion tiger and giraffe from his soft toys. Everything except snake and giraffe are stuffed live animals. They have maintained it well. Really good and would suggest others to see it

Kuthira Maliga Palace Museum, located in Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala, is a historical treasure trove showcasing art, artifacts, and royal collections. The palace's unique architectural design features 122 wooden horses on its exterior walls and horse face-shaped roof beams. It is part of a complex near the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and was built by Maharaja Swathi Balarama Varma.
The concept of a 'Museum' gains significant value when the treasured heirloom artifacts of a Royal Family are exhibited within their original palace! The atmosphere is exceptional, amplifying the visual appeal of each display. Participating in a guided tour proves to be more fulfilling than exploring independently, as there is a wealth of history and interesting facts associated with each item. It typically requires over an hour and a half to thoroughly appreciate every artifact, but the experience is undoubtedly worthwhile. The visit was captivating. The palace, constructed by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, provides an in-depth exploration of Kerala’s historical and cultural landscape. The wooden architecture, elaborate carvings, and particularly the distinctive horse motifs (which lend the palace its name) are breathtaking. Strolling through the palace felt akin to traveling back in time, with exquisite artifacts, paintings, and royal memorabilia offering insights into the life of the Travancore royal family. The guides were well-informed and contributed essential context to the exhibits, rendering the tour both educational and engaging. Although photography is prohibited, which may disappoint some visitors, it serves to protect the artifacts. In summary, Kuthiramalika is an essential destination for those passionate about history and architecture. Puthen Malika Palace, also referred to as Puthen Malika Museum, is an essential site to visit in Thiruvananthapuram! This magnificent palace, erected in the 19th century, exemplifies the stunning architecture of Kerala and its rich royal heritage. The intricate wooden carvings and beautiful murals are visually captivating. Every corner narrates a story, and one can truly appreciate the craftsmanship that went into its creation.

Stepped into Royalty at Kuthira Malika 🐎🏛️ Wandered through the timeless corridors of Kuthira Malika Palace Museum, where every teakwood beam and intricate carving whispers tales of Travancore’s royal legacy. The 122 wooden horse motifs, the traditional Kerala architecture, and the antique royal treasures made it a walk through history—majestic and serene. A must-visit for anyone drawn to heritage, art, and regal charm.

Th only thing you will like is the palace architecture.. there is an entry fee fo adults and even a mobile phone and camera. The palace is empty from inside, the rooms are empty without any artifacts except for some old furniture and 10 odd paintings.. the worst part is that management expects visitors to remove their footwear outside at the entry gate and no arrangement are made for their comfort.. the floor is very hot and my kids for skin burns.. request to management, you are taking a user convenience fee, pls think about visitors comfort.
Vishal P — Google review
If you love to hear out the history come here. Worth visiting spot don't come if there is no time to spend .A guide will be there for a group which is included with the ticket which i think is a Star..
NP — Google review
The place does have some valuables on display, but charging ₹500 for entry feels excessive. It’s not as though the items are one-of-a-kind treasures; they are simply a collection of things. The explanation given for such high charges was quite skillful, but honestly, it turned out to be very disappointing after going inside. Hearing claims like *“the valuables cost crores”* doesn’t justify the price of admission.
Rocksy J — Google review
I visited there on weekday. Less crowded than usual, and it kept really need clean. Staffs and helpful, they kept the place beautiful with grass and plants. Guide available and they'll tell you about everything. The ticket cost 70/- and with chithralayam ticket it's 100. Old sculptures, guns, decorative items and things used in the palace iss kept here. Some of them is over 1000 years old and it's really exciting to visit to such a place. Overall enjoyed a lot. The inside photography cost 500 and I think that's reasonable, if all the items is real!! And I don't understand why 50 rupees for outside photography. Because you can click photos without a ticket, there's no one there to question it or asking ticket for photography outside. So I think that's not necessary at all. Overall a good experience. You can visit there sometime while visiting sreepadmanabha swmy temple, it situated nearly, especially if you're an history buff.

One of the rare museums in India. The very attraction of this museum is rare and great collection of oil paintings of Raja Ravi Verma, well known in portraying the Indian culture and Hindu gods. The display of the paintings in the hall are well organised and maintained. Oil paintings are in the main building in two floors. The building itself is very artistic, coloured white and terracotta. Another small block for other paintings is there. Entry cost is Rs25.00 per head. Good thing is that you are allowed to take the photos of the exhibits. Whatever many the quality of your camera, but it can’t capture 1% off of the photo. Must visit place in Trivandrum.

Sunil's Wax Museum in Trivandrum is a top-rated attraction that showcases an impressive collection of meticulously crafted wax statues. Founded by renowned artist and sculptor Sunil Kandalloor, the museum features lifelike figures of celebrities, historical icons, political leaders, and cultural personalities. Visitors can marvel at the attention to detail in each statue, capturing the likeness and personality of the subjects. The museum also boasts wax sculptures of famous sport stars and significant historical figures.
Located at East Fort, right opposite the KSRTC parking area, this spot offers an affordable outing with tickets priced at 100 rupees per adult. It's a good place to visit if you have some free time and want a quick experience. The attraction features wax works of several famous personalities some sculptures are quite impressive and lifelike, while others are just average
Sanoj N — Google review
This wax museum features some decently crafted figures of celebrities and historical personalities, making for fun photo opportunities. The maintenance and lighting are good, creating a decent atmosphere. However, the ₹100 entry fee feels quite steep for what’s offered. The entire museum can be explored in under 10 minutes, with limited interactive elements . While the wax figures are impressive, the overall experience doesn’t justify the price compared to larger, more engaging attractions. A lower ticket price would make it more reasonable. The staffs were very friendly and attentive.
Neeraj R — Google review
Good collection and the way the statues are crafted is beautiful. Few could have been better. The entry fee seems too high considering the time spent
Pushkar P — Google review
I recently visited the wax museum and was truly impressed by the experience. The figures were incredibly detailed and realistic—down to the expressions, textures of the skin, and even the lifelike glimmer in the eyes. Standing next to them felt almost like meeting the real personalities in person. It was fascinating and surreal to walk among such life-like figures. It was a memorable visit and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys art and creativity or simply wants a unique experience.

Location - Very close to Padmanabhaswamy temple. Exactly opposite to parking area. It's on road. Place - Loved all idols. Credit goes to Sunil Sir for coming up with such good ideas. So welcoming & full of warmth staff. Especially thanks to Ganga for taking my great pictures. Only drawback is, not convinced with highly charged entrance cost ₹100. Rest all is superb.

Koyikkal Palace, a traditional 2-story Kerala palace dating back to 1677, is home to folklore and numismatics museums. The Keralam Museum has implemented modern techniques in refurbishing archaeological museums at various locations and played a pivotal role in establishing district heritage museums across the region. This historical site is one of the major tourist attractions in Thiruvananthapuram, offering visitors a glimpse into Kerala's rich cultural heritage.
Koyikkal Palace is a calm and beautiful place in Kerala. The palace is built in the traditional Kerala style with wooden walls and sloping roofs. Inside, there is a small museum that shows interesting items about the history and royal life of Kerala. The palace is surrounded by trees and nature, making it a peaceful place to visit. It’s a great spot for anyone interested in history or looking for a quiet place to relax.

Koyikkal Palace in Nedumangad is a peaceful place with serious old-world vibes. It’s not one of those massive royal palaces, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm and history. The building itself is this beautiful old Kerala-style structure with sloping tiled roofs and wooden beams—super traditional and photogenic. You can literally feel the history in the air. It was built way back in the 1600s. Inside, there are museums. The Folklore Museum has some really cool stuff like old musical instruments, traditional lamps, costumes, and even tools people used ages ago. On the ground floor is the coin museum, Ancient coins collections are there. The place isn’t crowded at all—perfect if you want a quiet, thoughtful afternoon. The gardens around the palace are also nice, and it’s a great spot if you’re into photography, culture, or just want a chill outing away from the usual city spots.

Koyikkal Palace in Nedumangadu is a beautiful historic spot that perfectly blends culture and architecture. The palace is well-maintained, and the museum inside is very informative, showcasing traditional Kerala artifacts, coins, and antiques. The calm and peaceful surroundings make it a great place to spend some quiet time while exploring history. A must-visit for anyone interested in Kerala’s heritage.
SABARINADH R — Google review
To be honest, I might’ve been a bit influenced by the stories and rumors, but I didn’t really find anything extraordinary about this palace. It mostly feels like a regular exhibition. If you’ve been to the Keralam History and Heritage Museum, the vibe is pretty similar — except the Keralam Museum has more stunning sculptures, cave paintings, and artistic displays. That said, Koyikkal Palace does have a few things that make it unique. I won’t spoil anything, but there are some interesting elements that are worth checking out. I still encourage everyone to visit it at least once. I went today, and I was the only visitor there 😅 — which actually made the experience even better. You can ask the staff more about the palace’s history or even the rumored stories connected to it — they’re usually happy to share. Entry is super affordable: just ₹30 for adults, ₹10 if you want to use your phone camera, and ₹150 extra if you’re planning to take videos or reels. So yeah, not mind-blowing, but peaceful, low-key interesting, and worth a visit if you're into heritage spots.

Museum of space history
Nestled in Thumba, the Space Museum is a captivating destination for anyone fascinated by the cosmos and India's journey into space exploration. This unique museum has its roots in history, as it was once St. Mary Magdalene Church, where India’s first rocket systems were assembled back in 1962. Over time, as projects flourished, additional structures emerged around this historic site. In 1985, the church was transformed into what we now know as the Space Museum.

Very well explained by staff the whole journey of Indian Rocket science 5. From kids prospects we must visit this museum... 6. It takes hardly 40 min n outside 15 min time 7. While returning you must carry your visiting pass which will be checked at the gate for exit. 8. There are really beautiful exhibits with real scale rocket models along with several rocket parts with some detailed information on each exhibit along with a small documentary for each section. Booking the ticket online is the only way to go there and there is prompt confirmation via email within a day. There is a small locker to place phones and you need to take a shuttle bus from the gate to the museum as walking or taking personal vehicles are not allowed..

Fantastic place to visit, the only drawback is that it's closed on holidays (and weekends). Best day to visit the entire compound would be Wednesday as they launch sounding rockets on that day every week. Advance booking of tickets is important, carry your ID card and remember, no photography inside the premises. (The photo attached is of a nearby water body which I saw on my way)

I recently visited the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum and Priyadarshini Planetarium with my kids and family, and it was a fantastic outing for all of us! The museum provided a perfect mix of education and entertainment, with its wide array of scientific exhibits that fascinated both the adults and the children. The Priyadarshini Planetarium was an absolute treat for everyone. The immersive shows captivated my kids, sparking their curiosity about the universe, while the advanced GM-11 starfield projector brought the wonders of the cosmos to life. The multilingual show options (Malayalam and English) were a bonus, making the experience accessible and enjoyable for everyone in our group. However, I do hope visitors and authorities alike take extra care in preserving this wonderful facility. It's important to maintain the cleanliness of the premises and handle the exhibits responsibly to ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from this excellent resource. The staff were courteous and attentive, and the facilities were clean and well-maintained during our visit. Ticket prices were reasonable, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and family-friendly. Whether you're looking for a fun family day out or an educational experience, this place is highly recommended. It's truly a gem in Thiruvananthapuram!

A very nice place to visit with your kids, the Planaterium show was awesome, (separate ticket required for this show) but the 3D show was poor in both quality and experience (also separate ticket required for this show). The museum was a very different experience for kids and helped to some scientific terms (also separate ticket required. But the park near the Planaterium is very poorly maintained and almost all playing equipment was damaged. The assistance by the staff is very satisfying especially from the security staff. Recommending to all at the same time I'm a little bit concerned about the poor maintenance of this awesome public facility.

There is no entry fee. Entry time is in between 11 Am to 4 PM. There are 2 museums inside the legislature assembly complex. The older one is built in the 19th century was a military hospital transformed museum. It contains the details of political history and artifacts, diaries, used by famous ministers, speakers and cheif ministers etc. The other one is new museum titled after the former Speaker of Kerala, Shri.G.Karthikeyan . It has comparatively modern facilities including a Gandhi smrithi Room, Constitution room , gifts received by AK Antony etc.
Athul J — Google review
This is a fairly modern museum located near the Kerala Legislative Assembly building. Displays include information on the modern political history of Kerala and information on the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi. There is an extensive display of gifts and items received by A K Antony who was the longest serving Defense Minister of India. The entry to the museum is fraught with confusion and disorganization. We were only able to enter the museum after multiple attempts. The rotating security personnel at the gate do not seem to know how to direct visitors to the museum. They are also confused about letting in foreigners. A police officer inside wasn't sure if the T-shirt and half pants I was wearing violated any dress codes. He wanted to make me wear full on trousers. I refused. Anyway they finally let us in. Their is an older more traditional building next to the museum which was under renovation and we could not visit.

The only station which can be said to be deserving a 5 star comparing what I have stations witnessed till now... Clean. Literally clean. 5/5 on that. The railway station has nearly all amenities one would be requiring... From food courts to clean and properly maintained waiting halls and washroom areas... There are even seating arrangements in the main Platform... The station even has a well maintained emergency room for any health emergency... The main building and the entrance and exit are also congestion free and clean... With adequate presence of Police personnel... With maps for easy transit in the main city. The walls often decorated showing Malayali culture... With separate help desk of Police and Kerala Tourism. And Guess what the station is still under renovation... Guess what more surprises will be there in ahead times. And hats off to Southern Railways with strict and disciplined staff... Ticket checking is done very seriously... While the cleaning staff are always there to clean up even little mess.

The proximity to the bus station and other transportation options is a major plus, allowing for easy connectivity. The station's central location and accessibility make it an ideal starting point for exploring the city. The station's architecture is impressive. However, there's scope for improvement in terms of cleanliness, signage, and amenities.

The State Central Library in Thiruvananthapuram, also known as the Trivandrum Public Library, has a rich history dating back to 1829. Initially established during the reign of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal of Travancore, it was initially a library for a select few, then opened to the public and eventually became the State Central Library in 1958. Here's a more detailed timeline: 1829: Established by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal of Travancore, initially restricted to a privileged class. 1898: Transferred to government control and opened to the public as "Thiruvananthapuram People's Library". 1900: Shifted to its current building, a structure of architectural beauty in the Gothic style, built in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. 1948: Taken over by the government after a resolution passed by the State Legislature. 1958: Renamed the State Central Library. 1988: Granted the status of a minor department under the Higher Education Department. The library has played a significant role in Kerala's literary and cultural landscape, and is known for its extensive collection, including rare books and historical documents. I went to get a membership there. The staff was helpful and got the formalities completed. Two photographs and original aadhar ID needs to be carried. They have car parking facility. Couldn't explore the books section since I had another appointment, but heard that they have a rich collection. Overall it was a good experience.

Has a good collection of books but no proper reading room . There is a study room . However we can only bring a notebook for writing and no other books are allowed. We cannot even bring the library books inside . If we want we will have to take books available in the study room itself . I thin there are a number of competitive books inside , i dont know if its diverse because have not entered inside even after visiting library multiple times.v

Good collection of books. I have been borrowing books from this library since I was a kid. The process of finding, borrowing and returing books has improved a lot. Now my kid loves borrowing books from here and we often visit the park too. Has always been a good experience. Staff are helpful. They have always helped me get any book I have needed.

IThe State Central Library is a peaceful and well-maintained place for reading and research. The collection is impressive, especially for academic and historical books. They provide books in languages like english, hindi, Sanskrit, and malayalam. The quiet atmosphere makes it a great spot to focus, though the seating can get a bit crowded during peak hours. Staff are generally helpful, and the architecture adds a nice charm to the experience. They also got many sections and, they got a separate library for differently abled people and children. They got a separate park only for children below the age of 12. They provide magazines, old articles, newspaper, upto date. But, I wouldn't recommend searching for commonly demanded books, as they are quite difficult to get hold of, since everybody put them in waiting list on the computer, so it will be while, you want trending books such as this.

This is one of my favourite peaceful places in Trivandrum. A perfect spot for reading, studying, or just spending time with books. Especially for UPSC aspirants like me – serious vibe and peaceful minds around. They offer different types of membership cards: D Class – ₹100 (refundable), can take only 1 book. A Class – ₹500 (refundable), can take 7 books + magazines + journals. B Class – somewhere in between, and good for regular readers. ✨ All the deposit money is refundable when you cancel the membership. 💺 The Premium Reading Hall on the 2nd floor is beautiful – AC, clean, silent, and gives a professional feel. Only A and B class card holders can sit and study here. 📖 There is also a Reference Hall, accessible to all members, where you can read important reference books, magazines, and journals. Calm and powerful learning atmosphere. Overall, I prefer A or B class because it gives access to everything. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves books, preparation, or a peaceful study spot.

Mateer Memorial CSI Church, located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, is a prominent Protestant church under the Church of South India (CSI), part of the South Kerala Diocese. Established in 1838 as part of the London Missionary Society (LMS), it was named after Rev. The church, situated near the University Stadium in Palayam, features a simple yet elegant Gothic-style architecture with a notable bell tower. The church is historically significant for its role in education and social reforms, reflecting the LMS's legacy in Kerala. It remains an active congregation, known for its serene ambiance and cultural importance in the city’s religious landscape.
Sajin S — Google review
The church's history started with the arrival of the Rev John Cox, the first London Missionary Society missionary in Trivandrum, in 1838. At this time local Protestants in Trivandrum worshipped in a church constructed by the Protestant Evangelical Trust in the 1830s. After Rev Cox resigned in 1861, he was succeeded by Rev Samuel Mateer, who led the church for 30 years and died in 1893. By this time the congregation had grown and needed larger premises and it planned to build a new church building in memory of Rev Mateer. The architectural style used in constructing the church was Hallenkirche (hall church) style. The church building was made in granite, with a square bell tower with a vestibule beneath and a roof supported by gothic arches. The Celtic cross on the bell tower is made of cut stone and commemorates Mateer's Irish background.

Visiting the Bible Museum was an awe-inspiring experience, offering a deep dive into the rich history, culture, and influence of the Bible throughout the centuries. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the thoughtfulness and detail that went into each exhibit. The museum masterfully combines ancient manuscripts, artifacts, and modern interactive displays to make the journey through biblical history both educational and engaging. One of the highlights was the collection of ancient texts and scrolls, some dating back thousands of years. It was fascinating to see how these documents have been preserved and passed down through generations, showcasing the meticulous care taken to protect the Bible’s legacy. There were also early printed editions, including a Gutenberg Bible, which gave insight into how the spread of the Bible influenced literacy and culture across the world. Through interactive exhibits and immersive experiences, visitors can explore biblical narratives and understand the Bible’s impact on art, literature, and society. It felt as though each section of the museum was designed to resonate with both casual visitors and those with a deep knowledge of biblical studies. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, ready to answer any questions and provide context to the displays. Whether you’re a person of faith or simply interested in history, the museum offers a compelling look at how the Bible has shaped the world. There were also a store to purchase valuables that closely relate to the biblical antiques. The one thing that struck me both mentally and physically was the painting of The Last Supper, and it's entire room which gave goosebumps everytime I looked. The painting was created meticulously with utmost thought and precision which gave the originality of the actual picture. Overall, the Bible Museum is not only informative but also inspiring, offering a blend of historical artifacts and modern technology to create a unique, memorable experience. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring one of the most influential books in human history.

Great place to visit if you want to visualise what's in the Bible.
Kesia S — Google review
The only inspiration i got is from the collection of old bibles from 18 centuries, and the many types of crosses, planted outside. They have attempted to do a mock replica of the tabernacle, Bethlehem (Church of Nativity), & Jerusalem (tombstone), which is just ok. Other than that, this museum is a collection of the owners hobby collection of toy dolls, toy cars, toy bikes, stamps, coins, toy animals /birds etc. if you are a real student of the Word of God, there’s not much to glean here. i think if the place was air conditioned, n target non christians to explain the stories from the bible, this museum would be beneficial.
Mathews J — Google review
A great repository of various kinds of Bibles and Crosses from different parts of the world, some even dating back a couple of centuries. There are also replicas of various christian holy places and also a good collection of paintings on various biblical themes and characters. Additionally, they also have, on display, an extensive collection of Christmas decorations, dolls, show pieces, clocks, toy cars, old cameras and various other items.

Worth for the quantity, not the quality. Earlier they used to provide good quality dishes on chicken and beef. Now the quality has declined drastically. Also they have now compromised on the hygiene as well. You could well see the untidiness of the kitchen behind the takeaway counter. The front staff are also not cordial. Prices are moderate, but for the quality given the prices are high. If you are here, then order for their pepper chicken and beef roast.

Sree Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, it offers a visual journey through the history and heritage of the Travancore kingdom.

H H Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma Chithralayam also known as Chithralayam Palace Museum is actually an art gallery which exhibits the history and genealogy of the Maharajas of Travancore. It is located near the Kuthira Malika Palace Trivandrum. The place has a huge collection of Art works, paintings, and other related objects of the Travancore Royal Family. The place hosts pictures of Travancore kings when they were young, pictures taken during their travel and with the English, Dutch travellers etc. There are also pictures of the king with the First Prime Minister of Independent India Jawaharlal Nehru, The nightingale of India Sarojini Naidu etc. The place would be a greater spot for History, art, craft and cultural enthusiasts. The ticket charges for the spot is Rs 30 per head for adults and Rs 10 for the children. Young children of less than 5 years are free to enter. The two storied museum buildings are kept neat and clean. It takes around 1 Hour for an average enthusiast to see the place. I would not recommend it for a family when they visit with their kids of playful energetic age. Because it may not at all be entertaining for those kids.

The H.H. Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma Chithralayam, also known as Chitralayam Palace Museum, is an art gallery located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It was established in 2011 by H.H. Sree Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the titular Maharaja of Travancore. The museum houses a collection of paintings, photographs, and other art objects from the Travancore royal family. The museum is located in the Rengavilasam Palace, a 19th-century palace built by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma. The palace is located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, and it is a popular tourist destination. The museum's collection includes paintings by both Indian and European artists. The Indian paintings are primarily from the Travancore royal family, and they depict scenes from the family's history and culture. The European paintings include works by British, Dutch, and French artists. The museum also houses a collection of photographs, including portraits of the Travancore royal family, as well as photographs of the palace and its grounds.

This gallery is a must see for people who are art geeks and ardent photographers as the items on display is of rarest nature . This photos were taken at a time when cameras 📸 were owned by a few . Photography is not allowed inside the museum.
Shafi V — Google review
The entrance of H.H. Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma Chithralayam welcomes you into a space that feels like stepping back into Travancore’s royal era. This gallery, once part of the Rengavilasam Palace, is now filled with portraits, photographs, and family heirlooms showcasing two hundred years of Travancore history . As you approach, the two-storeyed building made of laterite and wood stands gently behind a quiet garden. Inside, wide corridors and rooms display images of past maharajas—from childhood and marriage ceremonies to official duties and meetings with British officials . The softly lit hallways invite reflection and leave space to enjoy each photograph. The gallery was created by Uthradom Thirunal himself to share the story of his family and the evolution of Travancore . You’ll find rare photographs taken by him, showing the city and its people in a personal way. The careful printing and framing give the experience a respectful, museum-like feeling . Guided visits begin right at the entrance. The ticket counter and informative signs are clear and helpful. In the rooms, you get a sense of lineage and responsibility—how the last generations of Travancore royalty lived, served, and carried on traditions even after their rule ended . A visit takes about thirty to forty five minutes. Photography may be restricted, but that quiet focus helps you stay present and appreciate the rich visual history. The place remains calm and not crowded, giving it a respectful atmosphere. If you enjoy heritage walks or are curious about modern Travancore’s royal chapter, this gallery is a hidden treasure. It shows how memory, art, and legacy can live gently in a space that once sheltered a royal family.

You could explore lots of beautiful frames and paintings . Also anamorphic paintings are exhibited, which is really interesting. Entry fees : 30/- per head
Cherin P — Google review
A place to understand the historical events of Trivandrum's kingdom under the reign of the king through photos and paintings. The several halls of the building are filled with a thousand photos of the king in his different chores. There are a few artifacts too on display. But the photos are the main attraction. Some of the photos have been edited heavily to bring it to its original appearance. Good effort has been put in for the restoration. The old palace was converted into a Picture museum some time back and has become a touristic attraction of the city. But the thing is, the passive activity is not very awe-inspiring due to the monotony in the photos. After the first few photos, everything else start to look the same. Maybe history lovers might be able to dig up some interest to stroll through all the hallways. But others will simply rush through it quickly. Whatever be the case, the place is definitely a great curation.

This is just a little space when turning towards Golf Links Road from Kowdiar. This is like an Island, surrounded by roads. Seatings are provided. Usually noisy. But there are trees, and you can sit under the shade. There is a fruits shop next to the space, and also a Milma Booth. Just a place, not much to mention.

This museum is a peaceful and informative place to explore, especially if you're interested in nature and wildlife. Located near the zoo and Napier Museum, it’s surrounded by trees and gardens that give a calm feeling even before you enter. Inside, the museum is well-organised with separate sections for birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, fossils, and tribal life. You’ll see lifelike models of animals, skeletons, and preserved specimens displayed with proper descriptions. One of the most interesting parts is the fossil gallery, which includes ancient tree trunks and other rare finds. The building itself has an old charm, and the exhibits are arranged in a way that makes it easy to walk through and learn. It’s a good place for kids and students, but adults who enjoy learning will also find it engaging. It usually takes around one to two hours to see everything. Photography is not allowed inside, and there is no cafeteria, but the museum is clean and the staff are helpful. There’s also a small garden with dinosaur statues that adds a playful touch, especially for children. If you enjoy learning about nature or want to spend a quiet and meaningful afternoon in the city, this is definitely a good place to visit.

I was absolutely thrilled to visit the Natural History Museum in Trivandrum! As a history enthusiast, I was blown away by the vast collection of artifacts and exhibits that showcase the rich cultural and natural heritage of Kerala. From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the stunning architecture of the building itself, which is a beautiful blend of traditional and modern styles. The museum's layout is thoughtfully designed, making it easy to navigate and explore the various galleries. The exhibits are incredibly well-curated, with detailed labels and descriptions that provide a wealth of information about each artifact. I was particularly fascinated by the ancient stone sculptures, bronze idols, and traditional Kerala murals on display. The museum's collection of tribal artifacts and traditional crafts was also impressive, offering a glimpse into the lives of Kerala's indigenous communities. What I appreciated most about this museum was the way it weaves together the natural and cultural history of the region. The exhibits on Kerala's flora and fauna, including the stunning taxidermy displays, were just as engaging as the historical and anthropological exhibits. It was amazing to see how the museum highlights the interconnectedness of human and natural history. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the museum's facilities were clean and well-maintained. Overall, I would highly recommend the Natural History Museum in Trivandrum to anyone interested in history, culture, or the natural world.
