Napier Museum, located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a 19th-century architectural marvel housing archaeological artifacts, historical relics, and art pieces. The museum features royal seats with Chinese engravings, a musical bow in mahogany, colored windows, and intricately painted and carved rosewood ceilings. Situated near the museum is the Kanakakunnu Palace which was once used as a summer retreat by the Travancore royal family to entertain guests.
Napier Museum: Where History, Nature & Calm Come Together 🏛️🌿🕊️ It’s an experience that deserves an entire day to truly absorb. Spread across a huge, well maintained space, the place is spotlessly clean and beautifully organized, offering a calm escape right in the city. The museum itself is free to enter, while the adjoining zoo entry costs just ₹50, which also includes a locker facility for bags and even plastic bottles a thoughtful touch for keeping the space clean. The zoo is expansive, and right outside, a small café serves as the perfect refresher after a walk. What makes this venue special is the balance it offers: while the exhibits and zoo engage your curiosity, the grounds themselves invite you to slow down. There are plenty of shaded spots and tree-side seating areas, making it easy to pause, rest, or just take in the serene atmosphere. Despite the outside heat, the entire space feels naturally cooler, adding to the comfort. Whether you’re interested in history, looking to enjoy a day amidst nature, or simply searching for a peaceful retreat, Napier Museum is one of those rare places where you can do it all at once.

The Napier museum has several other prominent places to see like the zoo around the same area. The museum is housed in a unique building 🏫 with ample greenery surrounding the place. Excellent 👍 artifacts dorn the museum including a great collection of ivory pieces. Just outside is a collection of paintings along with a royal chariot. A canteen is also there with some good food just behind the hall with the paintings 🎨

The ticket price is 200 rupees for foreigners while it's only 30 rupees for local Indians, so it's almost 7 times more expensive than locals for me. But I decided to look around inside, and it's worthwhile visiting just one time while you are in Trivandrum. Most importantly, I have met so many beautiful locals who were so curious about me taking pictures together with them, what a memorable time mingling with genuinely welcoming Indian locals. Again it's a lovely wooden house containing lots of artifacts from thousands yrs ago or unknown periods etc, and interestingly I noticed they had some Indonesian artifacts too.

Napier Museum and the surrounding garden are beautifully maintained and very peaceful. The museum building itself is stunning with unique architecture, and the collection inside gives a nice glimpse of Kerala’s history and culture. The garden is spacious, clean, and perfect for a relaxed walk or family outing. Good place for photos too. It can get crowded on holidays, and some sections inside the museum feel a bit old, but overall it’s a calm and refreshing spot to visit in the city peaceful atmosphere i used to go there for studying mornings are very clam

Step into a captivating little room where history and artistry collide! This enchanting space is alive with stunning artwork that spans centuries, each piece a testament to the incredible skill and craftsmanship treasured by rulers of the past. If you have a passion for art, this is an absolute must-visit destination that promises to ignite your imagination and leave you in awe!

Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram is a beautiful place full of history and art. The architecture itself is stunning — a mix of Kerala and Gothic styles. The museum is surrounded by a peaceful green park, perfect for a walk after exploring. Inside, you can see traditional Indian sculptures, ancient ornaments, and rare archaeological pieces. A great spot to learn about Kerala’s rich culture and relax at the same time. Entrance fee is 200 rupees.

Napier Museum is a historic and beautiful landmark known for its unique Indo-Saracenic architecture and peaceful garden setting. It houses an impressive collection of ancient bronze and stone idols, ornaments, ivory carvings, and cultural artifacts. Located next to the Trivandrum Zoo, it’s affordable and easily accessible. However, some exhibits lack proper lighting, clear labeling, and maintenance. Facilities like restrooms and signboards could be improved, and it can get warm or crowded at times. Overall: A must-visit for art, culture, and history lovers — charming for its architecture and heritage, though slightly outdated in presentation.
ANANDHU S — Google review
I visited this Museum yesterday, hoping to explore its exhibits, but unfortunately, the museum itself was closed by the time we arrived. However, the trip was far from disappointing, as the surrounding grounds turned out to be an absolute delight and made the visit memorable. Located in the heart of the city, the Napier Museum’s premises are spacious, calm, and strikingly beautiful. The wide, open area is a haven of tranquility amidst the urban bustle, offering a serene ambiance that instantly captivates. The lush greenery, coupled with the historic charm of the museum’s architecture, creates a picturesque setting that feels almost magical in the evening light. What stood out was the subtle addition of music in the air whether it was from nearby performers or an intentional touch by the management, it added a soulful vibe to the experience. We saw several people, from families to groups of friends, enjoying the space, walking, chatting, and soaking in the relaxed atmosphere. It’s clear why this spot is a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Despite the charm of the surroundings, there were some notable drawbacks that kept this from being a perfect experience. The amenities were lacking in several areas. There was no designated parking area for two wheelers, which made it inconvenient for those arriving on bikes. Seating areas were also limited, forcing many visitors to stand or sit on the grass, which might not be ideal for everyone. Additionally, I noticed a lack of garbage bins, which led to some litter scattered around, detracting from the beauty of the place. The number of toilets was also insufficient for the crowd, and the available ones could use better maintenance. I strongly suggest that the management address these issues to elevate the experience. Adding a dedicated parking area for two wheelers, increasing the number of benches or seating spots, installing more garbage bins to encourage cleanliness, and improving toilet facilities would make the grounds even more welcoming. These improvements could transform the area into a truly exceptional public space. Overall, spending time in the Napier Museum’s surroundings was a wonderful experience, filled with beauty, calm, and a unique ambiance enhanced by music. Despite the museum being closed and the limited amenities, the charm of the place earned it a solid 4 star rating. With some attention to the mentioned improvements, this could easily become a 5 star destination for anyone visiting Trivandrum.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a prominent feature of Thiruvananthapuram, part of a temple complex with a towering gateway and shrine to Padmanabha reclining on a serpent. The city also boasts other attractions like the Keralan Museum, Napier Museum, Kerala Government Secretariat, and various palaces and historical sites.
My visit to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, was a deeply spiritual and mesmerizing experience. The temple’s architecture, with its golden gopuram and intricate carvings, beautifully reflects the grandeur of traditional Kerala and Dravidian styles. The darshan of Lord Vishnu in the reclining (Anantha Shayana) posture was truly divine and filled me with peace and devotion. The temple’s atmosphere was calm and sacred, and the chants of devotees created a serene spiritual vibration all around. The temple administration maintained the premises with good discipline and cleanliness, and the staff were polite and helpful. The security arrangements and queue systems were well-managed, ensuring a smooth darshan experience even during peak hours. Visiting this ancient and world-famous temple was not only a religious experience but also a moment of cultural pride. I felt truly blessed and spiritually enriched after offering prayers at the feet of Lord Padmanabhaswamy. It is indeed one of the most divine and must-visit temples in India.

The temple has fixed visiting hours — open from 4:30 AM till 12:15 PM in the afternoon and reopens in the evening from 4:30 PM. As you enter, the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere instantly surrounds you. Take some time to sit and walk around the temple corridor — it’s a truly beautiful and calming experience that lets you feel the divine energy of the place. This temple is unique, as it is the only temple in India dedicated to Lord Vishnu in a reclining (Anantha Shayana) posture. The darshan is taken through three separate doorways, and the sanctum is lit only by the gentle glow of numerous diyas, giving it a mystical and sacred aura. 🔒 Locker & Entry Rules: • Mobile phones, cameras, and bags are not allowed inside the temple. • Locker facilities are available near the entrance for safely storing your belongings. 👕 Dress Code: • Men: Must wear a dhoti and uparna (shawl). Management: The temple management is generally seen as effective in maintaining order, especially during peak hours, and provides locker facilities for belongings. The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is absolutely stunning and deeply spiritual. The architecture is breathtaking with beautiful carvings and a grand gopuram that reflects Kerala’s rich heritage. The peaceful atmosphere inside makes it a perfect place for prayer and reflection. It’s also fascinating to learn about the temple’s history and hidden treasures. A must-visit spot in Thiruvananthapuram for anyone interested in culture, history, or spirituality
Praveen K — Google review
We visited at around 5-something in the morning, and I’m grateful we did. This is one of those places where you feel the sanctity the moment you step in. Dress code (very strict, please read): As a foreigner, be prepared to dress traditionally. For women, a sari is best; if not possible, wear a kurta/top with a dhoti wrap below (no stitched pants). For men, dhoti/mundu is required and upper body bare is customary inside the inner areas. Jeans or any pants are not allowed. If you arrive unprepared, you can buy a dhoti at the counter. Even the police/security were in traditional attire when we went—everyone follows the code here. Phones & bags: No phones or electronic devices are allowed inside. There’s a counter/clockroom to deposit them, with strict checks at entry, so travel light. Tickets & queues: There is entrance fee, but be ready for long queues for darshan of Śrī Padmanabha (Lord Viṣṇu in reclining form). It takes patience, but when you finally behold the black stone murti lying in sublime repose, it’s unforgettable—deeply divine and moving. Experience & ambience: Inside, the sculptures and wood/stone work are beautiful—timeless craftsmanship that speaks for itself. When we exited, some painting/maintenance was ongoing outside, so wide photos weren’t ideal, but it didn’t take away from the spiritual depth within. Tip for first-timers: Read a short history before you go—understanding the background of this kṣetra makes the experience richer. Go early, dress correctly, carry cash for garments if needed, and keep an open, prayerful heart. This isn’t just sightseeing; it’s an immersion into the living tradition of Sanātana Dharma. Verdict: A must-visit for seekers and culture lovers alike—come for darshan, humility, and a taste of Kerala’s sacred heritage. 🕉️💛

This park is quite decently priced and have basic activities for kids to keep then engaged for a while. It’s lacks little maintenance as everything seems old, but still it’s a good one. A few weeks ago I went to veli but due to heavy rush I didnt go in, but this time there was no rush so we went inside veli tourist village after a long period. It looks like a lot changed. Veli tourist village is mainly for kids with couple of parks, miniature train ride, hourse ride, etc.. It's a good place for a walk with scenic beauty. The pathways and grass are well maintained. Floating restaurant was closed by mentioning renovation but cant see any renovation work going on. I saw a bio toilet but doesn't seems to be working. floating bridge also require some maintenance. In kids park also some equipments are damaged but not yet repaired. So there are some areas were no maintenance are being done.

Temple Review: Attukal Bhagavathy Temple A beautiful and serene temple experience. The temple is well-maintained and not overly crowded, which makes it easy to get darshanam within 10–15 minutes. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the staff are helpful. There’s also an Indian coffee house nearby, making it convenient for visitors. The food is reasonably priced and offers a good variety of traditional options. Overall, a pleasant and spiritually fulfilling visit. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

This popular beach attracts both locals and tourists who come to relax and admire the serene atmosphere along the Arabian Sea. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking sunsets, indulge in beach activities like kite flying, and savor local street food from nearby stalls.
A peaceful beach to enjoy the sunset. The view is really beautiful, especially in the evening. There’s a big mermaid statue and plenty of space to walk or relax. Some areas need a bit of cleaning, but overall it’s a nice spot to chill with friends or family. Close to the airport too. 🌊🌅

Shangumugham Beach is a beautiful, serene escape from the city bustle! It's wide, clean, and has such a wonderfully calm atmosphere. The highlight is definitely the iconic Jalakanyaka (Mermaid) sculpture .it’s an incredible piece of art right by the shore! 🧜‍♀️ We stayed until the evening, and the sunset here is just magical, painting the sky in fiery colors over the Arabian Sea 🔥. It’s perfect for a long, quiet walk or just sitting and enjoying the sea breeze. A truly peaceful and picturesque spot in Trivandrum! 😌

Shangumugham Beach offers a peaceful coastal escape just minutes from Trivandrum city and the airport. It’s a great spot for an evening stroll or to catch a stunning sunset by the waves. The beach is known for its unique attractions — the massive mermaid sculpture and an old helicopter installation — which make it a popular photo stop for visitors. While the natural beauty and iconic landmarks draw crowds, especially on weekends, the beach does face issues with cleanliness and maintenance. Litter on the shore and a generally neglected feel take away from the overall charm. With better upkeep, this spot could truly shine as one of the must-visit urban beaches in Kerala.

JINU S — Google review
Shangumugham Beach has this calm, old-school charm that makes it different from the usual crowded beaches. I’ve come here often, and every visit feels a bit nostalgic the salty breeze, the sound of the waves crashing, and the sight of the sun slowly setting over the horizon. It’s one of those places where you can just sit on the sand, zone out, and forget about everything for a while. The beach could definitely be cleaner, but if you look past that, it’s a peaceful spot to unwind. The area around has some really nice restaurants and local food stalls — perfect for grabbing tea, snacks, or seafood after a walk along the shore. There’s something special about how time seems to slow down here, even with a few flaws, Shangumugham still has that quiet magic that makes you want to come back.

Akkulam Tourist Village is a calm and peaceful spot located right by the roadside, making it easily accessible. It used to be a nice place to relax and spend some quiet time with family and friends. However, the place is not well maintained nowadays. Cleanliness has become a major issue, and many areas are left untidy, which affects the overall experience. If the authorities could focus on maintaining the space better, this could be a great hangout spot again.

This is a good hangout spot if you ask me. It's good to come with your friends or your partner or want to spend some time alone. It was a quiet place and there were only a few people there. When I went there, it was between 3-4 pm so I'm not sure how it is during the late hours. It's also a beautiful place for photoshoots and all cause there are beautiful things to capture. There are also some stalls to eat and have fun playing some games. But there was one thing that I didn't like. Many of the adventure rides weren't open when I went there, and that's not the right thing considering I paid the ticket price as well.
Devand S — Google review
It's a nice place to sit and relax, especially for families and children. The entry fee is ₹30 per person, and they accept both UPI and cash payments. There’s a good play area for kids with different slides, a swimming pool, and boating facilities. They also offer several adventure activities like zip line, rope cycling, and more. However, you’ll need to buy separate tickets for each activity or combo packs to participate. The newly opened Glass Bridge is another attraction here, with an entry fee of ₹200 for adults and ₹150 for children. But in my opinion, it’s not really worth that amount, as there isn’t much of a great view when you reach the end of the bridge. Toilet facilities are available, and there are small shops inside where you can buy ice creams, snacks, shakes, water, and other refreshments. Overall, it’s a pleasant place to spend some leisure time with family and friends, especially if you’re looking for a relaxing outing.

This grand three-storey palace was built in 1934 by Maharajah Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma as a wedding gift for his sister, reflecting both royalty and family pride . With over 150 rooms, it blends the simple elegance of Kerala architecture with hints of Dravidian influence and even touches of European design like tall steeples and a wooden lift . Set on a small hillock and surrounded by lush greenery, the building stands out in the city, its six towers visible from afar . It was built with respect to Vastu Shastra and oriented to welcome monsoon breezes, showing how practical design and beauty were both important . Inside, long corridors and high ceilings, carved wooden beams, and large halls hint at the royal gatherings and cultural events that took place here . Though visitors can’t enter, it still feels like walking through history. You can admire the elegant façade, spot the wood‑lift shaft, and imagine the palace in its heyday. Nearby gardens hold the king’s burial site, which adds quiet meaning to the place . The palace remains the private home of the Travancore royal family, especially the descendants of the Maharajah’s sister . Seeing it from the outside gives a sense of Kerala’s royal heritage, smart design, and how tradition and daily life once united here. If you drive or walk past, take time to slow down and notice the architecture, the breeze‑friendly layout, the historical importance, and the idea of home it conveys—even without entry, it leaves a memorable impression.

Nestled near the picturesque Kovalam beach in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the Vizhinjam Lighthouse is a striking red-and-white striped beacon that has been guiding sailors since its completion in 1972. Standing tall at 36 meters on Kurumkal Hill, this lighthouse not only serves as a vital navigational aid but also offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the surrounding lush landscapes.
A Hidden Gem with a Breathtaking View! Vizhinjam Lighthouse is an absolute must-visit if you're near Kovalam or Thiruvananthapuram. It's not a very large lighthouse, but the view from the top is incredible. You get a 360-degree panoramic view of the Arabian Sea, nearby beaches, and the surrounding greenery. The climb to the top is short but steep—around 140 steps and a narrow spiral staircase at the end. It’s manageable for most people, and totally worth it for the scenery. The breeze up there is refreshing, especially around sunset. The lighthouse is well-maintained and there’s a small museum that gives you some interesting background on maritime history and navigation. Staff were polite and helpful. Pro tip: Try to go during clear weather, preferably in the late afternoon, and bring your camera—the sunset view is unforgettable! Entry Fee: Very reasonable (₹20–₹30 when I visited). Timing: Check before going, as it sometimes closes around noon and reopens in the afternoon. Parking: Available nearby. Highly recommended if you're in the area and want to enjoy a peaceful spot with a stunning view. 🌅

The tower presents an excellent opportunity for visitors to spend at least an hour enjoying the surroundings. Standing at a height of 30 metres, the tower offers a remarkable vantage point, providing sweeping views of the landscape. The elevated position allows guests to appreciate the scenery from a unique perspective, making it a memorable stop during the trip. For photography enthusiasts, the tower is an ideal spot. The panoramic view from the top is perfect for capturing stunning photographs, whether of the natural beauty or the bustling activity below. Even at the entrance and the areas located beneath the tower, there are numerous photo opportunities. These locations allow visitors to take advantage of different angles and lighting conditions, ensuring a diverse collection of memorable images from their visit. But don't visit on the Monday.

Vizhinjam Lighthouse is one of the must-visit spots near Kovalam. The view from the top is absolutely stunning — you get a full panoramic view of the coastline, the blue sea, and the nearby beaches. The climb to the top is short but a little steep, totally worth it once you see the view. The place is well maintained and organized, with proper timings for entry. There’s also a small museum area that showcases the history of lighthouses, which is pretty interesting. It’s usually not too crowded if you go early in the morning or around sunset, and the lighting during those times makes it perfect for photos. Parking is available nearby as well. Overall, a beautiful spot to visit for views, photos, and a bit of peaceful time by the sea.

Vizhinjam Lighthouse offers a nice short trek to the top with stunning views from above. It’s a great spot for photography and scenic views. Just note that it’s closed on Mondays.
Sandeep K — Google review
If you’re in Kovalam, the Vizhinjam Lighthouse is hands down one of the most beautiful spots you cannot miss. Perched right on the edge of the coast, it offers a panoramic view that’s simply breathtaking. From the top, you can see Lighthouse Beach, Hawa Beach, and Kovalam Beach all at once—the kind of view that makes you pause and soak it all in. The contrast of golden sands, swaying palms, and turquoise waves stretching endlessly into the horizon is nothing short of magical. The entry ticket is just ₹25, making it one of the best-value experiences in Kovalam. You first take a lift for a few floors, but the real adventure begins in the last stretch—where you need to climb two levels on steep, wooden ladder-like stairs. They’re not your regular stairs, so it feels a bit thrilling (and slightly scary for some), but the effort is 100% worth it when you step out to the circular balcony at the top. The 360-degree view from here is unforgettable. On one side, you see fishing boats dotting the sea like tiny specks. On the other, you’ll spot coconut groves stretching deep into the land. During the evening, the lighthouse offers one of the most mesmerizing sunset experiences in Kovalam. The sky glows in shades of orange, pink, and purple while the sea reflects it all like a giant canvas. Some extra notes from experience: • The lighthouse is usually open in the morning and evening hours (closed during midday), so plan your visit accordingly. • The balcony at the top can get a bit crowded, but everyone usually waits patiently for their turn to take in the view or click pictures. • If you’re a photography lover, this is easily one of the best vantage points in Kovalam. 🌟 In short: • Ticket: ₹25 (super budget-friendly). • Access: Lift + two wooden ladder-style floors. • Highlights: Panoramic view of three Kovalam beaches, fishing boats, and stunning sunsets. • Vibe: Scenic, peaceful, and unforgettable. The Vizhinjam Lighthouse isn’t just about climbing up for a view—it’s about experiencing Kovalam from the best seat in the house.
Diksha S — Google review
I visited this Lighthouse yesterday and had an overall enjoyable experience. The place offers a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere, ideal for a relaxed outing. The ambience was pleasant, and the surroundings were clean, neat, and well kept. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which added positively to the experience. Unlike many tourist spots, it wasn't overcrowded, so we could take our time exploring the area and enjoying the views. Parking was easy and convenient, with enough space and no hassle, which is a big plus. The entry ticket was reasonably priced, making it accessible for everyone. The area around the lighthouse is quite spacious, but unfortunately, the space doesn’t seem to be fully utilized. There is a lot of untapped potential here if developed properly with some tourist-friendly additions like a café, souvenir shop, or seating/viewing areas, it could become a major attraction. One of the best highlights was the view from the top of the lighthouse absolutely breathtaking! You get a panoramic view of the sea and coastline, and it’s definitely worth the visit just for that. It was also great to see that the top area was clean, safe, and well maintained. For those who may find climbing stairs difficult, there is a lift facility, which is very thoughtful and convenient. One drawback, however, was that digital payments were not accepted. In today’s time, especially at tourist spots, having UPI or card options is expected and would greatly help both local and international visitors. Overall, a great place to visit with potential for more. A little more development and modernization especially with facilities like digital payment would take this destination to the next level. In summary, Vizhinjam Lighthouse is a great spot to visit if you're in the area. It offers peace, scenic views, and a clean environment. With some improvements in utilizing the available space and adding a few more attractions or amenities, this place can easily become a top tier tourist destination.

The location is approximately 20 km from the city. It's a 10 am to 6 pm program. Try to join by 10 am. The forenoon session mostly focuses on the performance of differently abled children. Stepping into Magic Planet was an experience that transcended mere entertainment. This is not just a theme park; it's a unique social experiment that is succeeding with grace and excellence. The park is a platform to empower and rehabilitate an often overlooked community—differently-abled children and street magicians. Seeing these incredible artists perform with such skill, confidence, and sheer joy is breathtaking. The work done here, training and providing a livelihood for these talented individuals, is a rare and beautiful initiative that sets Magic Planet apart from any other attraction. The park’s architecture and design are stunning, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. Every corner of the park is thoughtfully crafted to ignite the imagination. The magic and circus sessions are, without a doubt, scintillating. The illusions are world-class, the acrobatics are gravity-defying, and the performances are delivered with professionalism and passion, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The variety of shows, from close-up magic to grand illusions, ensures that there is something to captivate every family member. Every staff member we interacted with was incredibly polite, sensible, and genuinely helpful. Their care and attention to detail, especially in managing a crowd with diverse needs, speak volumes about the place's ethos. This was my second visit to Magic Planet, and it was even better than the first. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they no longer charge for entry but instead accept donations. Honestly, I feel they should charge for such a fantastic package of entertainment. To show our support for their noble cause—empowering differently-abled children and street magicians—my family and I happily donated ₹1000 per person. The food options were simple and average: a Kerala style basic veg meal and chicken biryani. In a world full of commercial attractions, Magic Planet stands out as a beacon of hope and humanity. A full five stars and our highest recommendation!

One of the most powerful Devi temples I have visited. We were just spellbound by the beautifully lit Devi, glowing in the light of many diyas. Mesmerizing. Good Temple. Small Shiva temple and there is good view around. Entry is free. There is some park nearby that closes around 06:30pm. Climbing up and down can be very tough. Steps are not well kept. Madavoorpara, nestled in the Kazhakuttanam region of Thiruvananthapuram, is a serene hilltop treasure steeped in centuries-old history and natural charm. Perched roughly 300 ft above sea level, it features a rare 9th-century CE rock-cut Shiva temple that’s hewn directly into granite—complete with an ardha-mandapa, pillared facade, and a rock-carved linga within . Ancient Vattezhuthu inscriptions adorn a pillar, reflecting its cultural importance . Believed to have origins linked to Buddhist or Jain monks, the site may mark the transformation of earlier monastic caves into Hindu worship spaces between the 8th and 10th centuries . Visitors ascend a mix of roughly 200 rock-carved steps—some natural inclines, some vertical carvings—to reach the shrine . Today, the hilltop is a family-friendly getaway: a scenic 100 m bamboo bridge and huts offer panoramic views, complemented by a children’s park, swings, and a sacred pond known as Ganga Theertham . A Redditor in r/Trivandrum shared: > “Sometimes may be good, sometimes may be shit.” referring to the bamboo path's unpredictable state—though many praise it as a fantastic sunset vantage point . Managed by the State Archaeology Department since 1960, Madavoorpara is free to visit (open morning-6.30 PM; closed Mondays; bridge hours vary) . It’s accessible via road from Sreekariyam, and lies ~20 km from Trivandrum's airport and ~17 km from the central railway station . Whether drawn by spiritual reflection, history, or a peaceful sunset, Madavoorpara offers a refreshing escape that gracefully blends heritage with natural beauty.

Connemara Market, also known as Palayam Market, is a historic shopping hub in Thiruvananthapuram. Established in 1857, it was originally built to supply daily goods to the army. The market offers a variety of products including fresh spices, vegetables, fruits, clothes, fish and goat meat at affordable prices. It's a vibrant marketplace where you can experience local life and find locally produced items such as handicrafts, textiles, spices and souvenirs.
Visited this old tradition Market built during the British Times. Eventhough I had no intention to shop, it was worth a visit. Situated opposite the Palayam Jummah Masjid, the entrance has a couple of flower shops and a tea shop selling different teas and popular fried snacks. There are a huge number of shops selling you groceries, fruits and vegetables, fish and other meat stalls on the left hand side and the back side of the market. Being a Friday, the chicken and mutton stalls were closed for the afternoon. There were also many shops selling vessels of aluminium, earthenware and ladles made of coconut shells. It's a beautiful sight to see a lot of traditional shops still existing around. I would highly recommend you to visit this market to discover the history or just make a difference in the lives of these shops who have been around for many generations selling food and other quality household stuff items.
Afroze N — Google review
It's one of the oldest markets in Palayam, established by Maharaja Sri Uthradom Thirunal in 1857. The market has been recently renovated and offers a wide variety of household items. Opposite the market, you'll find the beautifully renovated gopuram of the Sree Shaktivinayaka Temple, with the Juma Masjid conveniently located adjacent to it. Efforts have been made to maintain the market's historic charm. However, the presence of posters, banners, and party flags detracts from its aesthetic appeal.

Best market in the middle of the city, where you will find everything you need for daily life. Its now extended to back side for the renovation, but i think renovation is still pending still last few years. Sunil's Wax Museum in Trivandrum is a top-rated attraction that showcases an impressive collection of meticulously crafted wax statues. Founded by renowned artist and sculptor Sunil Kandalloor, the museum features lifelike figures of celebrities, historical icons, political leaders, and cultural personalities. Visitors can marvel at the attention to detail in each statue, capturing the likeness and personality of the subjects. The museum also boasts wax sculptures of famous sport stars and significant historical figures.
Located at East Fort, right opposite the KSRTC parking area, this spot offers an affordable outing with tickets priced at 100 rupees per adult. It's a good place to visit if you have some free time and want a quick experience. The attraction features wax works of several famous personalities some sculptures are quite impressive and lifelike, while others are just average
Sanoj N — Google review
This wax museum features some decently crafted figures of celebrities and historical personalities, making for fun photo opportunities. The maintenance and lighting are good, creating a decent atmosphere. However, the ₹100 entry fee feels quite steep for what’s offered. The entire museum can be explored in under 10 minutes, with limited interactive elements . While the wax figures are impressive, the overall experience doesn’t justify the price compared to larger, more engaging attractions. A lower ticket price would make it more reasonable. The staffs were very friendly and attentive.
Neeraj R — Google review
Good collection and the way the statues are crafted is beautiful. Few could have been better. The entry fee seems too high considering the time spent
Pushkar P — Google review
I recently visited the wax museum and was truly impressed by the experience. The figures were incredibly detailed and realistic—down to the expressions, textures of the skin, and even the lifelike glimmer in the eyes. Standing next to them felt almost like meeting the real personalities in person. It was fascinating and surreal to walk among such life-like figures. It was a memorable visit and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys art and creativity or simply wants a unique experience.

So welcoming & full of warmth staff. Especially thanks to Ganga for taking my great pictures. Only drawback is, not convinced with highly charged entrance cost ₹100. Rest all is superb.

Kuthira Maliga Palace Museum, located in Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala, is a historical treasure trove showcasing art, artifacts, and royal collections. The palace's unique architectural design features 122 wooden horses on its exterior walls and horse face-shaped roof beams. It is part of a complex near the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and was built by Maharaja Swathi Balarama Varma.
The concept of a 'Museum' gains significant value when the treasured heirloom artifacts of a Royal Family are exhibited within their original palace! The atmosphere is exceptional, amplifying the visual appeal of each display. Participating in a guided tour proves to be more fulfilling than exploring independently, as there is a wealth of history and interesting facts associated with each item. It typically requires over an hour and a half to thoroughly appreciate every artifact, but the experience is undoubtedly worthwhile. The visit was captivating. The palace, constructed by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, provides an in-depth exploration of Kerala’s historical and cultural landscape. The wooden architecture, elaborate carvings, and particularly the distinctive horse motifs (which lend the palace its name) are breathtaking. Strolling through the palace felt akin to traveling back in time, with exquisite artifacts, paintings, and royal memorabilia offering insights into the life of the Travancore royal family. The guides were well-informed and contributed essential context to the exhibits, rendering the tour both educational and engaging. Although photography is prohibited, which may disappoint some visitors, it serves to protect the artifacts. In summary, Kuthiramalika is an essential destination for those passionate about history and architecture. Puthen Malika Palace, also referred to as Puthen Malika Museum, is an essential site to visit in Thiruvananthapuram! This magnificent palace, erected in the 19th century, exemplifies the stunning architecture of Kerala and its rich royal heritage. The intricate wooden carvings and beautiful murals are visually captivating. Every corner narrates a story, and one can truly appreciate the craftsmanship that went into its creation.

Stepped into Royalty at Kuthira Malika 🐎🏛️ Wandered through the timeless corridors of Kuthira Malika Palace Museum, where every teakwood beam and intricate carving whispers tales of Travancore’s royal legacy. The 122 wooden horse motifs, the traditional Kerala architecture, and the antique royal treasures made it a walk through history—majestic and serene. A must-visit for anyone drawn to heritage, art, and regal charm.

Th only thing you will like is the palace architecture.. there is an entry fee fo adults and even a mobile phone and camera. The palace is empty from inside, the rooms are empty without any artifacts except for some old furniture and 10 odd paintings.. the worst part is that management expects visitors to remove their footwear outside at the entry gate and no arrangement are made for their comfort.. the floor is very hot and my kids for skin burns.. request to management, you are taking a user convenience fee, pls think about visitors comfort.

If you love to hear out the history come here. Worth visiting spot don't come if there is no time to spend .A guide will be there for a group which is included with the ticket which i think is a Star..
NP — Google review
The place does have some valuables on display, but charging ₹500 for entry feels excessive. It’s not as though the items are one-of-a-kind treasures; they are simply a collection of things. The explanation given for such high charges was quite skillful, but honestly, it turned out to be very disappointing after going inside. Hearing claims like *“the valuables cost crores”* doesn’t justify the price of admission.
Rocksy J — Google review
I visited there on weekday. Less crowded than usual, and it kept really need clean. Staffs and helpful, they kept the place beautiful with grass and plants. Guide available and they'll tell you about everything. The ticket cost 70/- and with chithralayam ticket it's 100. Old sculptures, guns, decorative items and things used in the palace iss kept here. Some of them is over 1000 years old and it's really exciting to visit to such a place. Overall enjoyed a lot. The inside photography cost 500 and I think that's reasonable, if all the items is real!! And I don't understand why 50 rupees for outside photography. Because you can click photos without a ticket, there's no one there to question it or asking ticket for photography outside. So I think that's not necessary at all. Overall a good experience. You can visit there sometime while visiting sreepadmanabha swmy temple, it situated nearly, especially if you're an history buff.

The Thiruvallam Parasurama Swami Temple is a popular Hindu temple located in the town of Thiruvallam, near Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is dedicated to Lord Parasurama, the creator of Kerala, and is home to several important after-death ceremonies. The temple is also popular among devotees for its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings.
I did Elder's Tharpanam in this Sri Parasurama Temple. So many people from all over India came to this location to perform the Pooja on the day of Amavasya Thidhi. Really amazing and Pandits explained clearly and cooperative. But the only thing is The Pandits explained everything in Malayalam language only other languages people don't understand. We follow when the other people do it.

Gawthaman S — Google review
This temple is one of the oldest and most spiritually powerful temples I have visited. The deity here, Lord Parashuraman is truly divine and powerful - one can genuinely feel the positive energy and blessings upon entering the temple premises. The ancient & traditional architecture adds a classic charm, reflecting the deep-rooted heritage and devotion that this place holds. Every corner of the temple carries a sense of purity, faith, and calmness that touches the heart of every devotee. However, I would like to mention a concern regarding the Bali (ritual) procedures. During my visits, I felt that the poojaris inside the temple were performing the rituals in a bit of a hurry, without giving enough time or attention to make the karma feel complete and satisfying. As devotees, we come with deep faith & emotion, expecting peace and fulfillment after the rituals, but the hurried approach sometimes affects that spiritual satisfaction. It also feels like there is a greater focus on the dakshina (offerings) rather than on the emotional & spiritual connection of the devotees. Apart from that, the temple continues to be a truly divine and sacred place. The presence of the deity gives immense strength, hope, and inner peace. Despite the small concerns, I always feel blessed and spiritually recharged after visiting this temple. It remains a place of strong divine energy and faith that every devotee should experience at least once in their lifetime.

A serene and spiritually powerful temple dedicated to Lord Parashurama, located beautifully along the banks of the Karamana River. The calm atmosphere, traditional Kerala temple architecture, and the sacredness of the rituals performed here make it a must-visit for devotees and those seeking peace. It is believed to be the only major temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Parashurama, and many people perform "bali" (ancestral offerings) here, especially during Karkidakam and Tharpanam days. The surroundings are clean and well-maintained. A truly divine experience and a great place to connect with Kerala’s spiritual and cultural roots.

I recently went to vssc as a part of IV had terribly bad experience in the space museum. We got there on that particular day because we wanted to see the sounding rocket launch which they postponed without any notice. We moved on and went to the space museum where we had terribly bad treatment from the explanation staff of exhibits they rushed the whole thing because there was a high profile person visiting just after us in the theatre show they made us and the teachers stand while keeping an entire side of 50-60 seats for the 3 persons visiting. They didn't even care about even showing the last part and just rushed us out . The most reputed institution couldn't afford well behaved staff? We were utterly disappointed in the behaviour and when we complained the cisf officers supported but the mueseum in charge nearly verbally abused the coordinator teacher .very sad moreover just try to care more for the enthusiastic people who come there

A peaceful and divine retreat Madre De Deus Church (Vettucaud Church) is a place that leaves a lasting impression. The architecture is simply beautiful both grand and graceful. Inside, the church is very spacious and peaceful. Even just sitting there in silence feels calming and meaningful. There's a divine atmosphere that surrounds you the moment you step in. One of the hidden gems here is the underground museum. It's a fascinating space where you can explore many things from the robes and belongings of the priests to beautiful depictions of Jesus and elements of church history. It adds depth to the visit and gives a sense of spiritual and cultural richness. The church is located near the sea, adding to its serene charm. A walk by the shore makes the experience even more special. The only downside is transportatio buses are often overcrowded and uncomfortable. But if you're coming by private vehicle, the trip is much easier and more enjoyable. Truly a place worth visiting!

Also it is inside a building so he will be able to walk a lot without much crowd. We went on a Saturday and rainy day. There was very little crowd almost 20 people or so. He loved the exhibits especially the wild animals but was afraid of the skeletons. He ran a lot from one exhibit to another and would address most birds as crow. He knew lion tiger and giraffe from his soft toys. Everything except snake and giraffe are stuffed live animals. They have maintained it well. Really good and would suggest others to see it

Nestled in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, the Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a stunning example of Dravidian architecture and spiritual grandeur. This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, boasts intricate carvings and majestic gopurams that transport visitors back in time. The main deity is depicted reclining on Ananta, the serpent god, which adds to its allure. Pilgrims and tourists alike are drawn to its serene atmosphere and rich history.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a truly divine and serene place to visit in Thiruvananthapuram. No shirts, T-shirts, or upper garments are allowed inside. • Women: Must wear a saree or traditional set-mundu. Western wear such as pants, jeans, or tops is not permitted. • Traditional attire is mandatory for everyone entering the temple. Overall, a visit to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is not just about architecture or history — it’s about experiencing divine peace and spiritual energy that stays with you long after you leave.

I visited the temple during the weekend on a Saturday in July month. Instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and calmness inside and around the temple. It's really a divine place and you get to see the lord Vishnu in a resting posture and the spirituality, architecture, cleanliness, security and the experience is top notch. I took the vip darshan with a ₹500 ticket and with this you can get the closest to the idol. I went at 8 am and you can enter through any of the four gates. Tickets are avilable inside the temple. After security check at the entrance head straight to the ticket counter and then joined the queue. Within 30 mins I was infront of lord Vishnu and asked for his blessings. No rush, no pushing and ample time in front of the idol was allowed. Post the darshana, I got prasadam which was included in the ticket price. Then visited lord Ganesha as well which is withing the temple complex. My heart and mind was at peace and I sat there admiring the temple architecture and beauty. Temple timing are displayed at the entrance and special puja ticket of around ₹3000 is also available. Best time for free darshana is to go early morning when the temple opens at 3am. Also please note that dress code need to be strictly followed and no electronic item are allowed inside the temple. You get locker and bathing facility at nominal rates.

God's abode where "the creator of all of the universe - Shri Hari Vishnu" rests in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and is depicted in the form that's told in scriptures - He is shown resting on Kshirsagar over Shesh Nag, a lotus coming out of his navel over which sits Lord Brahma, Below his right hand that's extended is Shiv Linga, the form of Shiva widely worshipped across Bharat. Attaching form photo for reference. There are three doors in front of the idol, from right most door his head is visible, from middle door his navel portion and from the left most his feet. All this information is available over YouTube. Please check out that info beforehand else you might not understand what's there to see. Whenever you visit, plan in advance as temple is closed after 11:30 AM till 4:30 PM. There may be long queues, although VIP passes are available for ₹500/-. Most important thing you are not allowed in regular clothes. You need to wear Mundu -white dhoti if you are a man, for women saree or if you are in salwar suit you need to tie a mundu across your waist. Dressing appropriately is a must. It's rich with cultural heritage and must visit for mythology and history enthusiasts. There's a Krishna temple behind Shri Padmanabh Swamy temple which is even older (approx. 5000 years old). All in all a peaceful place to visit.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the most magnificent temples in India, with incredible architecture and deep spiritual atmosphere. The golden towers and detailed carvings are breathtaking. Unfortunately, entry inside is allowed only for Hindus, so I couldn’t go in — but even from the outside, it’s truly impressive. The surrounding area is calm, with beautiful ponds and traditional buildings that add to the sacred feeling of the place.

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu, depicted in a reclining posture on the serpent Anantha. Renowned for its Dravidian architecture and spiritual significance, the temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu. The temple's main deity is composed of 12,008 saligrams, fossilized shells from the Gandaki River in Nepal, and is preserved using a unique Ayurvedic mixture called "Katusarkara yogam" . The temple is also famous for its treasure vaults, which were discovered to contain immense wealth, including gold, jewels, and artifacts, making it one of the richest temples in the world . In June 2025, the temple hosted a rare Maha Kumbhabhishekam, a consecration ritual conducted after nearly 270 years, marking a significant event in its history . Visitors are required to adhere to a strict dress code: men must wear a white dhoti with an angavastram, and women should wear a sari. Entry is permitted only to Hindus, as per the Temple Entry Proclamation . The temple opens for darshan at 3:15 am and closes at 7:20 pm, with various slots for prayers and rituals throughout the day . While the temple offers a profound spiritual experience, some visitors have reported issues such as overcrowding and lack of proper guidance for tourists . Additionally, the temple's treasure vaults have been a subject of legal and spiritual debates, adding to its mystique and intrigue . Overall, Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple stands as a testament to Kerala's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's deep-rooted traditions and beliefs.

One of the most famous mosques located near the coastal area of Trivandrum. It is different from other mosques. It is beautifully constructed and is light pink in colour. The Beemapally Dargah Shareef houses the tomb of Syedunnisa Beema Beevi. She is believed to have divine powers. It is recommended to visit the mosque mornings or evenings or as usual timings to pray. The mosque is famous for its annual Urus that is festivals to venerate Beema Beevi at which people from all customs and faiths jointly participate. The festival begins with the hoisting of the flag of the mosque. During the festivals many programmes like Islamic devotional songs, Duff muttu etc are also conducted. The Chandanakudam Mahotsavam marks the end of the festival at which the flag from the Beema Beevis grave is taken and a grand procession of elephants along with the panchavadyam music takes place. The panchavadyam includes Timila, Maddalam, Ilathalam, Kombu and Idakka. The mosque environment is maintained well. It is just 5-6 kilometres away from the Thampanoor or Thiruvananthapuram City. The mosque was built in the 1960s and completed with nearly 18 years of construction which made it an architectural marvel. There are also many small shops for food and toys nearby which can be utilised by the visitors to buy toys and all for the children. Thus during the next visit to Trivandum one can visit the place and see it.

St.Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Palayam, Trivandrum, is the Cathedral Church of the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum This 137-year old grand monumental Goethic structure has a moderate beginning. The initial Church was constructed in 1873 as a Parish Church to look after the spiritual needs of a few Catholic military men and a few Catholic families who mainly migrated from the coastal region of earstwhile Travancore state, comprising of the present Kanyakumari and Trivandrum Districts. The very name Palayam has its ethymological meaning a ‘Contonment’ ie, the Military’s residence. On May 4th, 1873 the first Church was blessed by the then Bishop of Quilon Most Rev.Eldaphonese OCD and Rev.Fr.Emygdius OCD, the Parish Priest. The Second phase of extention work in the manner of the Cross was done in 1912 during the tenure of Rev,Fr.Pamcratius OCD. And the final stage of extention, including the Goethic style imposing front and the bell-tower was completed in1927 during the time of Rev.Fr.Ildaphonse OCD. The three ‘Do-Re-Me’ syncronising bells were brought from Belgium and were installed. These bells were named Joseph, Xavier, and Aloysius to denote St.Joseph the Patron of the Church, St.Francis Xavier, the Apostole of India and Bishop Aloysius Maria Benziger the pioneer Missionary-Bishop of Quilon respectively. When the Quilon Diocese was bifurcated and the new diocese of Trivandrum was formed on 1st July 1937, St.Joseph’s Church became the Cathedral Church of the newly formed Trivandrum Diocese. And when His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. M. Soosapakiam was made the Archbishop and the Diocese of Trivandrum became the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Trivandrum in 2000, St.Joseph’s Cathedral was also raised to the status of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

This historical site is one of the major tourist attractions in Thiruvananthapuram, offering visitors a glimpse into Kerala's rich cultural heritage.
Koyikkal Palace is a calm and beautiful place in Kerala. The palace is built in the traditional Kerala style with wooden walls and sloping roofs. Koyikkal Palace in Nedumangad is a peaceful place with serious old-world vibes. It’s not one of those massive royal palaces, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm and history. The building itself is this beautiful old Kerala-style structure with sloping tiled roofs and wooden beams—super traditional and photogenic. You can literally feel the history in the air. It was built way back in the 1600s. Inside, there are museums. The Folklore Museum has some really cool stuff like old musical instruments, traditional lamps, costumes, and even tools people used ages ago. On the ground floor is the coin museum, Ancient coins collections are there. The place isn’t crowded at all—perfect if you want a quiet, thoughtful afternoon. The gardens around the palace are also nice, and it’s a great spot if you’re into photography, culture, or just want a chill outing away from the usual city spots.

To be honest, I might’ve been a bit influenced by the stories and rumors, but I didn’t really find anything extraordinary about this palace. It mostly feels like a regular exhibition. If you’ve been to the Keralam History and Heritage Museum, the vibe is pretty similar — except the Keralam Museum has more stunning sculptures, cave paintings, and artistic displays. That said, Koyikkal Palace does have a few things that make it unique. I won’t spoil anything, but there are some interesting elements that are worth checking out. I still encourage everyone to visit it at least once. I went today, and I was the only visitor there 😅 — which actually made the experience even better. You can ask the staff more about the palace’s history or even the rumored stories connected to it — they’re usually happy to share. Entry is super affordable: just ₹30 for adults, ₹10 if you want to use your phone camera, and ₹150 extra if you’re planning to take videos or reels. So yeah, not mind-blowing, but peaceful, low-key interesting, and worth a visit if you're into heritage spots.

Very beautiful and unique Palace, but they have very limited access to the areas. It is converted to museum and certainly has one of the most iconic antiques inside .

It is one of the best tourist attractions in thrivandrum. An exceptional architectural masterpiece, with hundreds of horses as part of the exterior decoration, the cieling in each room is unique. The museum tour guide is very thorough with his explanation, giving insight to each and every item.

Well maintained palace. I visited on a Saturday and was not at all crowded. There is an entry fee of 100 rupees (70 for palace and 30 for art gallery).
KEERTHANA K — Google review
Unique palace which is adjacent to the Padmanabha temple. Ticket costs 100rs per head. It is well maintained and there is English speaking guide who gives a tour of the palace. Photography is not allowed inside.
Suneha M — Google review
An artistic excellence. Elegant crafiting work, items that's used years ago kept neat clean, well maintenaned. It's actually a blessing to see those items that used in wars, festivals and for decoration. Such a great place. Reasonable ticket price, helpful staff and security. And yeah an historoc heritage site.

Kanakakunnu Palace, located in Trivandrum, Kerala, is a stunning example of traditional Kerala-style architecture and a remnant of the colonial era. Once serving as the venue for royal banquets, it now houses exquisite royal furniture and antique pieces. The palace stands as a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage and architectural grandeur. It is a popular spot for various programs and events, making it an ideal place to explore and spend time.
Nice area in the centre of Trivandrum city. Nishagandhi is good for events and the entire area is good for festivals. Attended the Mathrubhumi Festival of Letters and the Xmas lights there.
Pauls D — Google review
The main entrance to Kanakakunnu Palace and Nishagandhi Auditorium feels grand yet welcoming. Set along a tree-lined road, the entrance opens into a spacious compound that brings together culture, history, and calm surroundings. The wide gate and well-kept path give a royal touch that hints at the heritage of the place. Once you walk in, you are greeted by open grounds, flowering plants, and a clean environment that makes it easy to forget the busy city just outside. The palace stands elegantly in the background, while the Nishagandhi Auditorium sits to one side, known for hosting classical dance and music performances. During festivals and cultural events, this area becomes lively and full of energy. At other times, it remains peaceful and perfect for an evening walk or quiet visit. There are benches, open lawns, and clear signage, making the area accessible and comfortable for all ages. You will often see families, joggers, and tourists spending time here. The location is also popular for photo walks and small gatherings. Security staff are present at the gate, and the whole space is generally well maintained. Entry is usually free, and the timings extend into the late evening, making it a good spot for both day visits and nighttime strolls. This entrance is not just a way in. It sets the tone for the calm and culturally rich experience that follows. Whether you are visiting for an event or just to enjoy the quiet beauty of the surroundings, this is a place that blends heritage with simplicity in the best way.

Kanakakunnu Palace is a beautiful heritage site in Thiruvananthapuram, known for its stunning architecture and peaceful garden surroundings. It’s a nice spot for a walk, photography, or attending cultural events. However, there’s not much to see inside unless there’s an exhibition or program happening. The place could use better maintenance and more visitor facilities. A good place to relax, but not very engaging for tourists expecting an in-depth historical experience.
