1The Vic On The Park

Pub
The Vic On The Park is a lively and popular corner pub in Sydney, offering an expansive deck, a basketball court, and a revamped menu by Merivale. It's located right across from Victoria Park, making it a favorite spot for families. Meanwhile, the Lord Raglan Hotel across from Alexandria Park prides itself on being a classic pub with no pokies or gaudy smoking areas.
Located at 2 Addison Road, Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺. Edit - I have been back to this great hotel a number of times since my initial visit and have always loved it 🥰. The food is always so delicious 😋 and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is amazing, especially when the live music 🎶 is playing. I love it! Always looking forward to my next visit. 👍😊 This was a great little find after visiting the park across the road. The atmosphere was great and I loved the way they decorated the place. Very cool. The food was great, I had chicken schnitzel and it was delicious. The service was excellent, no complaints at all. Very happy. Would definitely recommend. Thumbs Up!! 👍👍😊😊

We brought Barry the dog for lunch and was so impressed! The outside is huge and was so nice to have a beer garden where we could lounge in the sun, order some really yummy food and we also got a great deal on the pitchers/jugs as a lunch time offer too! The MAIN thing we want to compliment is the staff- other places in Australia we have noticed aren’t great at customer service but here the staff were all friendly, welcoming and SO HELPFUL! They even loved Barry! It’s super dog friendly with water bowls everywhere for the dogs on warm days & you can take them anywhere inside. We would highly recommend the Vic on the Park and wish we lived closer as we would love to come back!
M S — Google review
The Vic is a bit of an institution it’s been around so long. Now under the Merivale group and it’s reflected in the menu. The burger is very good as was the lamb with pita. The beer garden is huge with plenty of big screens screening various games and it even had a half court with bleacher seating. The main pub retains its old school pub feel, also has big screens and there is live music some nights. The pub is super dog friendly - there were almost as many dogs as people. Anyone that is allergic or not good with pups running free, this is probably not the venue to visit
Niki V — Google review
Excellent local pub owned Merivale. The food is great and the portions huge. The courtyard is spacious with lots of areas for eating, drinking and separate area for smoking. From day to night - this place has great vibes.

Live Sessions at Vic on the park on a Sunday afternoon - what a great vibe - a mix of bands - Great music. Food was good all round great way to spend a Sunday afternoon
Suzanne P — Google review
The vic is a fine establishment, great smoking area, ample seating and a gigantic tv. My only qualm is that when they’re busy, they’re busy. I struggle to get a drink and the bar staff seem inexperienced and slow. I’ve never had a bad meal here and it’s always a vibe on a Sunday
Thomas B — Google review
On a busy Saturday night, everything was right. Great music, enough staff to keep the service at the bar flowing, appropriate security and a good crowd.
James F — Google review
Really disappointing experience. Our group was kicked out after one of my friends politely asked a waitress for her number. Nothing inappropriate was said, and we even apologised right away if it made her uncomfortable. Instead of accepting the apology, she lashed out, swore at us in front of everyone, and the staff told us to leave. The whole situation felt unfair and made us think it might have had something to do with the fact that our friend is Asian. Whether intentional or not, it came across as discriminatory and left a really bad impression. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.

Pub

Function room facility
The Old Fitzroy Hotel is a charming 2-storey bar and theatre venue with a cozy atmosphere, featuring exposed-brick walls and comfortable sofas. The 160-year-old pub has retained its friendly interior under new ownership, while the kitchen has been revamped by an ex-Sepia chef, offering a menu filled with classy pub grub. This historic establishment prides itself on its character and history, serving as a meeting place for artists, writers, and musicians in inner Sydney.
The Old Fitz is a very memorable mother's day venue. Live jazz music (the band was amazing), excellent service and just a fantastic atmosphere overall. However beers are a overpriced as a schooner of Mountain Culture is $15.
Christopher J — Google review
Fantastic traditional atmosphere with a great selection of beers and foods. The starters were exceptional. I had the scotch egg and shared the lamb scrumpet. The theatre downstairs had a famous Harold Pinter show which some attendees suggested was very personal and well performed but did not experience myself. The atmosphere then upped a gear when a very eclectic jazz band performed a set that was extremely enjoyable. Great service and atmosphere and would highly recommend.
Alastair L — Google review
The Old Fitz has a local feel about it and the staff are friendly and helpful. We came on a Sunday for their Sunday Roast which was either Pork, Chicken or a vegetarian. The price is quite high and when we got it, it was lukewarm. We did bring this up with the staff and they gave us a round of drinks which was appreciated. We tried the scotch egg as well which was ok. They have live jazz on a Sunday which on the day we came were great musicians. There is also a theatre out the back which hold some amazing plays. I really enjoy this venue but this isn’t the first time I have been disappointed with the food.
Casandra T — Google review
According to Time Out Sydney, The Fitz comes in at #4 of the top 16 Sunday roasts in Sydney. Not sure what roasts were tried when the list was compiled, but the ones we had last Sunday were very bland. It was extremely busy at the pub and even though the place was pumping, the bar staff did an amazing job. You could see they were run off their feet, but they were always smiling and welcoming. The pub itself is really cool. Outside dining, tables in the main bar, sunny mezzanine level and a bistro upstairs. The Fitz Theatre is located here too but didn’t get to see that. The roasts…… There were six of us for lunch, two had chicken and four had pork. All the roasts came out lukewarm at best and the serving sizes were ok... although each a different size. We all agreed that for the size, temperature and flavour, the roasts were not worth the $32/$33 we paid. It was like the kitchen were just trying to pump them out to keep up with the amount of orders coming through. I’d go back to The Fitz to try their standard pub menu but not for the Sunday roast. I don’t actually think it should be on the top 16 list, let alone at #4.
David K — Google review
Popped in for lunch, as I knew of this pub, due to its history and its support for the arts. Quintessential 19 century pub. Love the photographs of the walls. The food was great. Enjoyed sitting outside. Will return
Peter L — Google review
I came by for a drink as it’s in walking distance from my hotel. It’a crowded and lively even on a rainy day. Most people were hanging out by the bar. I later found there were more seatings in the back and there’s a dining area upstairs. We didn’t order food as it’s late but I would love to try their Sunday roast one day (maybe when I return to Sydney). I liked the neighborhood bar vibe.
Bonnie Y — Google review
One of my favourite pubs in Sydney for a meal, with great vibes and atmosphere all year round. In the summer, or even a nice sunny winter’s day, there’s nothing better than getting a table outside with a jug of beer or a bottle of wine. And for those cosy wintry nights, grab a spot inside and tuck into their steak frites, one of the best in Sydney. Sunday’s are also a great time to visit, as there’s a live jazz band and their Sunday roast. But I have found their Sunday roasts a bit inconsistent, in terms of portion sizes. I’ve been with a group of friends and we’ve all ordered the roast, with some portions being super generous and others leaving a lot to be desired. Just my honest feedback, because otherwise, it’s full marks for the Old Fitz! Great selection of tap beers too, including dark ales and usually a sour, plus a great wine list. So there’s something for everyone. And the bar staff are always super lovely and obliging, even when the pub is packed to the brim. So if you haven’t visited yet, add the Old Fitz to your list!
Adrian W — Google review
Our sixth week Sunday pub roast in East Sydney and Darlinghurst experiences our less than desirable result here at the old Fitzroy Hotel. The hotel was very busy inside and out upstairs and downstairs yesterday – a younger crowd, a crowd that was hip and happening. Reminded me of being in Enmore or Newtown in the early 90s. At this hotel there was a choice of roasts: either chicken Maryland, pork with crackling or slow roasted Japanese squash. We ordered and less than four minutes later, our roasts had arrived. I can’t help but think that they may have been sitting there waiting to be served up. I thought the pork was OK and the crackling was very welcome, but the potatoes were not cooked properly. The Yorkshire pudding had no taste and rather light on with the gravy – but the carrots were excellent. This also was the first time in six weeks that I was unable to enjoy a Guinness or two with my roast. I did, however, have a very heavy stout beer and that was OK for a change, but allow me to praise the preparation of the carrots because whatever they’re doing with the carrots is great. We sat at a table inside and were surprised to see a dog on a leash, walked into the front bar and dining right beside us – it’s just a little of putting. Again, the interior of the pub reminded me of the Newtown hotel 1992 painted black and sorely needing of renovation, modernization and love. I’d say try this one for yourself for you might fall into the demographic stratum that this pub embraces. Also, there’s a Theatre space attached to this pub – that’s an important asset that they should exploit to it’s fullest effect.

Cocktail bar
The Glenmore Hotel, located in The Rocks, Sydney, is a historic pub spread over three levels. It offers elevated fare, a cocktail bar, and a bustling rooftop with stunning views of the harbor. The rooftop provides clear vistas of the Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay, making it one of the best rooftop bars in Sydney. The hotel's heritage-listed building has undergone restoration to preserve its original features such as fireplaces and bars.
The staff are incredibly friendly. Service is very efficient. If you’re fortunate enough to get a table on the rooftop you’re doing very well. It’s such a popular place that’s a challenge to find a table up there but even so, sitting anywhere in this charming old pub is a pleasure.
Michael J — Google review
The Glenmore is one of my favourite places in Sydney for a casual team lunch — the rooftop atmosphere is amazing, the old-world décor adds real charm, and the plates are generous (the prawn toast was a standout). I often bring my team here, and the service is usually excellent. On our last visit, though, one team member’s meal arrived almost an hour after the rest of us. She was our new starter, which made things a little awkward. The staff did offer her a complimentary drink, which we appreciated, but when booking as a group we’d hope that meals are timed so everyone can eat together. Overall, still a fantastic venue I’ll continue to frequent, but group service could be tightened up.
Jessica H — Google review
The Glenmore hotel a stunning multi level venue perched between the Sydney harbour bridge and circular quay in the rocks over looking beautiful Sydney harbour from the rooftop terrace. With heritage charm and decor, Offering a range of tap beer, wines and spirits paired with a lavish menu with something for everyone. Food was hot and tasty, just bit inconsistent on arrival times. Hi tables and chairs in the direct sun can be a be uncomfortably as they get really hot so pick your seat depending on weather. Otherwise plenty of other indoor and outdoor options. Friendly staff, Fairly priced. Would recommend
Ritchie W — Google review
A really nice rooftop bar with stunning views of the harbour. Perfect place to bring someone who is visiting Sydney. It offers a special view of the harbour and the Opera house. The staff are friendly and there is plenty of room, as it’s a large multi story venue. Arrive early if you want to get good seats on the rooftop though.
Donal E — Google review
We had a great afternoon at the Glenmore where we had arranged to meet up with a bunch of friends. We had a room to ourselves close to the bar, for food was fantastic and service quick. Some of the food we had included the Glenmore bowl, chicken skewers, falafel bowl, barramundi and the fish sliders - so tasty. I highly recommend you book and take your our of towners there for the Sydney Rocks Experince. We will be going again.
K P — Google review
We gathered our family of 20 to enjoy the outdoor seating, food, drinks, and atmosphere. Perfect place for a large family gathered in Sydney for a wedding. Great hangout place, food was really good, super friendly service. We loved it.
Mike U — Google review
Very disappointed… we booked a table for a drink and some snack and / or dinner. We requested a table close to the view. They reserved us 2 tables instead. A big one in the middle of the rooftop with no view and a second downstairs with even less view (or as the girl told us: “a view with a few lights of the city”. Excuse was that: “it’s going to pour in 10min and we can’t set you close to the view”. It actually rained only 3 or 4h later. We stopped at the handrail a few minutes to decide what to do and observe a bit the view, during that time, another staff asked us to move as they’re setting tables where we were standing as they have a venue…. So we then decided to leave as we understood they prefer give better service for people having a venue. If you can book a table to have a view over the harbour, I’d advise you to do it somewhere else. Also, no lift to access the rooftop.

The Newport, located on the Northern Beaches, offers a fantastic outdoor bar experience with breathtaking views of Pittwater. This transformed venue provides a chic Riviera-style outdoor pub with multiple restaurants and bars for families to enjoy. Children can have a blast in the indoor play area while parents indulge in drinks and delicious meals. The expansive outdoor space features various dining areas and bars, making it an ideal spot for both kids and adults.
Worth the Drive! I won’t lie — it was a 40-minute drive for me, but absolutely worth it. The venue is open-air with beautiful views and a relaxed, spacious layout. Whether you’re after a bar, café, or pizza — they’ve got it all. I went with the pizza and a drink and it was delicious. The staff were attentive, and the whole place is very well kept. Highly recommend for a laid-back day out!

The Newport – ★★★★☆ Great spot for a relaxed meal with a beautiful view of the water. The food was fresh and tasty, and the overall vibe is super chilled — perfect for a sunny afternoon. Plenty of space, a nice variety of seating, and a lively atmosphere without feeling too crowded. Service was decent, and everything came out quickly. Would definitely come back. A solid place for good food, great vibes, and stunning surroundings.

beautiful spot with lovely gardens and plenty of greenery. The fish burgers were fresh and tasty, with crisp chips on the side. A relaxed place for a casual meal with a view.

Super popular place with good pizzas. We picked a very windy winter day, so frozen a bit in the elements. Staff were flat out but worked hard. One meal didn't arrive as they were just so busy, but they issued a refund.. Nice cocktail selection.
Kylie S — Google review
Amazing atmosphere, amazing food. I could not fault this place (except ridiculously expensive) but worth it for the views & atmosphere!! Wow. We will be back!!
S — Google review
Late home, we needed simple for a light dinner and our hosts said let's go to the Newport. My expectations of a little neighbourhood bar were, to say the least, incorrect. It is a massive sprawling complex overlooking the top end of Pittwater. I didn't have time to explore all of its delights! We parked at a table overlooking the water, just as the sun was setting, and if you read this review and are left wondering when would be a good time to go, check Google for 'sunset time in Sydney today' and make sure to get there a little before that. It was just lovely. We settled on some draft pale ales, and decided what to eat. Choices, choices. Pizzas from the pizza kitchen? Burgers from the Shack, or seafood from the Kiosk? Are there more outlets? Who knows, I could still be looking for them as I write ! We ended up with burgers and salt and pepper calamari from the shack, ordered and given some gizmo that alerted us as to when our order was ready. And when it duly buzzed and whirred, off we traipsed to collect - we were our own wait staff. Not sure I liked this....bit like having a dog and having to bark yourself if you ask me.... I would have preferred someone to bring it, except (one supposes) it would tire the staff out looking for the punters over the course of a shift.... numbered tables might be an option? Anyway, the kids portions turned out perfect for a light treat and we left happy. Go back? Yes, definitely for the sunset and a couple of beers, and in fairness the kids meals were plenty big enough for us.

Didn’t have a photo with the food & drinks because the view was stunning, especially during sunset. Best outdoor beer garden kinda area to hang out. Food was really good with diverse options (pizza, burgers, finger food, etc) and the whole vibe was amazing. And of course, it’s a Merivale venue

The Dolphin Hotel in Surry Hills is a vibrant venue with three levels, modern decor, and an outdoor terrace. The Delfino Pizzeria within the hotel features a handmade Neapolitan Mesiano wood oven and offers traditional Italian pizzas made with 100% Australian ingredients. Head pizzaiola Sasha Smiljanic leads the kitchen, ensuring that pizzas are prepared quickly and served fresh to patrons.
I’m really impressed. I got the Pipette Alla ‘Delfino’ and it was *excellent*. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were lovely. I didn’t have to wait long before it came out. The place has a really nice feel to it and the music isn’t too loud so you can have a conversation. Seriously, that pasta was so good that if it was socially acceptable to lick the plate clean, I would have. Compliments to the kitchen!

Went for dinner with a group of 12 and they managed everything perfectly! Food was awesome and service was good too! The pizza's were exceptional, the croquettes delicious, the grilled octopus and the crudo tuna were amazing! Most dishes were spicy but they made non spicy versions of them for those who couldn't have chilli! The prawn linguini lacked abit of salt/flavour though. Cocktails were good too. Overall a great experience, I hope it's not long before we visit again!

7/6/25 - 4 stars One of multiple well known pubs in Surry Hills. I had heard about their pizza for a while and managed to come try it. The place is pretty huge and has restaurant-like seated areas, but, ordering happens at the bar counter. It's super busy in peak hours and, as a result, really noisy. Personally, not a big fan of that environment, but, I get that some people like this. Our booking was put in a corner right next to the bathrooms which was suboptimal and the stools were a little unsteady and uncomfortable. The pizza, however, was a pleasant surprise. Really delicious and felt authentic. Only drawback is that its quite expensive for the size. Margherita Flavour: SS, 9/10. Probably one of the best I've had in Sydney in terms of getting the basil flavour imbued. Texture: SS, 9/10. Really soft yet chewy and cheese not runny like other places. Only drawback was the amount of burnt areas. Value: B, 6/10. $24 is quite expensive for a margherita Pepperoni Flavour: S+, 8.5/10. Nice but not quite as impressive Texture: SS, 9/10. Value: B, 6/10. $28

The best swordfish I've had in a very long time. This is a fine pub restaurant indeed.

I probably would have given this a 5star if the burgers were actually a decent size and not like a kids burger and also way overpriced for the size. It did taste pretty good, and the pizzas 🍕 were also pretty good but went cold quickly as there wasn't anywhere inside to sit on the first night. The service was excellent and quick, and so was the food coming out after ordering. It's in a pretty central location and multi story, with heaters outside, TV's for watching sports, lot's of alcohol options.

Witnessed this manager try tip a girl out of her chair to make her leave because she shut a door leading to the outside area because it was so cold. That’s literally all she did. Absolutely NO grounds for forcefully removing a paying customer. Both me and my partner were shocked by the treatment of this young girl.

Arrived around 9pm on a Monday and the staff were lovely and accommodating even though the kitchen was about to close. The burgers were really good. I’m not a huge fan of polenta, but the polenta chips were actually really nice. The cocktails were not great, but I’d definitely go back for the food.

The Lord Dudley Hotel is a charming and cosy gastropub located near Sydney's Alexandria Park. It offers a warm and comfortable setting with a fireplace, an extensive selection of craft beers that rotate weekly, and an American-inspired menu. The pub exudes an intimate atmosphere with its classic pub meets jazz lounge vibe, featuring a baby grand piano and rustic firewood stack.
The ragu steak was good, but i prefer the one with sauce rather than the home butter. The beer selection in here was also great. Great deal 18$ for the ragu steak on tuesday. Car park just behind the pub. Pretty tight and have to look around to get the spot

Rained off work so I went for lunch as usual and what a good call that was. Had the chicken parmigiana. The chicken was cooked properly with a store bought tomato sauce on it. The cheese was good and plentiful and the chips were thin cut so they did go cold fast. The plate not warmed up. The salad was a good size and only leafy with a nice dressing on it. 4.5 plates cleaned

This was an unexpected gem of a place. Recreates the feel of a British pub which is more cosy and homey than the Aussie variety. I loved the British beer and my Brit pub lunch at a table near an open log fire. The Old Speckled Hen on tap was a real highlight. 5 stars for atmosphere. Thanks!

Went for an early lunch. It had a lovely and quaint atmosphere, even when the crowds started coming in for the regular lunch times. We got a Scotch egg and Sunday roast pork, which was absolutely delicious. The servings were unexpectedly big and would be good shared between 2 people and really decently priced. If you're feeling nostalgic for a good London pub and grub, this is a good start.

I visited on Sunday and listened to live jazz music. I also had the Sunday roast. it was the most delicious one I've had in a long time.

By my beard, The Lord Dudley is a hall most worthy! I strode in from the weary road and found a fire that roared hot like dragon’s breath and ale that flowed colder than mountain stream. There with my brethren I raised my horn of mead, and swapped ales and tales. A true refuge for any warrior seeking warmth, cheer, and mead aplenty

Been coming here 30+ years and this was the worst food I’ve ever had here. Scotch egg had thin dry meat covering and the egg was fridge-cold and had a grey ring around the yolk. Fish (and chips) was dry. The pork special arrived after my partner had pushed aside the fish and was greasy. Horrible. Service was well intentioned but awkward.
Joanna K — Google review
The best Sunday pub roast in Sydney. The pork roast is fantastic. Could do with a few more greens (even just some peas!) but everything on the plate is perfect - juicy pork with crispy crackling, lovely gravy, Yorkshire pudding is spot on. Great atmosphere. Make sure you book!

Forrester's is a welcoming neighbourhood pub in Sydney that features discounted food and drinks, as well as live events throughout the week. The bar is split into three areas; a relaxed bar, an all-round botanical restaurant, and an event space which gets really busy on weekends.
Great spot for a British roast, love the big yorkie (would like it more if it was thicker as it is quite thin in pastry) the beef in the roast is great, carrots + potato’s are generously served & loved the peas and thick gravy! The double cheese burger is expensive but lord it’s delicious! It’s worth it. Great options of mocktails & beers. Such a great pub to sit outside on a nice day and people watch. The sticky date pudding is delicious also! Hits the spot

Christmas in July event review: Walking into the restaurant, it was immediately clear that the main dining area—especially near the bar—was quite crowded. Unfortunately, we spent several minutes standing at the entrance without being acknowledged by any staff. It felt like we were invisible. We eventually called a friend who had arrived earlier. She had also struggled to get help and ended up locating our reserved table (which had our name on it) on her own. No assistance was provided by the staff during that process. After we seated ourselves, a staff member finally approached our table, and shortly after, our food was served. On a positive note: huge compliments to the chefs! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the pork and the pumpkin dip—those were standout dishes and truly memorable. However, service throughout the night was inconsistent. We weren’t offered water, and our attempts to get a staff member’s attention were ignored; they seemed to avoid our side of the dining room altogether. As it was a course-meal, we were also surprised that our plates weren’t changed between courses. That said, when the staff did interact with us, they were polite. Atmosphere wise, it was noisy but bearable.

Sundays need a Sunday roast and it did not disappoint. Opted for the Turkey being that the lamb was an $8 extra. Might have to splash out on that next visit. Whole meal was great washed down with a few cold ones. Certified meal to fix any of the previous nights activities.

We were here on a Monday night with a reservation in their Phyllis space. The food was delicious, we ordered their Steak Night special as well as other starters and mains. It was buzzy but not too noisy, we could still have a conversation 😊

Sensational $35 "Winter Yorkie" Roast Turkey dinner served inside a giant Yorkshire Pudding (genius!) The place was pumping on a Saturday lunch owing to patrons heading to a Swan's game at the SCG. Opted to sit on the second floor dining area which was nice and quiet. Decided to order at the bar downstairs instead of table QR codes. $35 roast special can be made into a combo for +$5 with a Young Henry's Newtowner beer or a house wine - white being a pinot grigio on this particular day. Service was fairly timed given how busy they were. Staff were friendly and attentive. The meal itself was delicious, large portion size. Several slices of turkey, mash potato, peas, glazed carrots and gravy. We opted for no cranberry sauce on ours. One yorkie was a much different shape to the other but portion sizes seemed comparable. Wine menu is quite expensive with bottles starting at $60+ so if you want to get lit go to the Keg and Brew first for a $35 bottle of wine and then toddle up the hill for lunch. A large party with a reserved dining area moved in at 2pm and became very noisy so we went elsewhere for coffee. Pub is dog friendly! ♥️ Strong recommend.

Went to celebrate my birthday with good friends - all I wanted was to try the Yorkie been out of the UK for 10 years I was craving a good roast! This was by far the best I have Had. Oooh and the Irish Coffee topped it off. Thank you for making my birthday, extra special.

The Big Yorkie Sunday lunch at Forresters is absolutely fantastic! The Yorkshire pudding is massive and perfectly crisp, stuffed with generous slices of tender roast meat, rich gravy, and fresh veggies. Everything was hearty, full of flavour, and cooked just right. Pairing it with a schooner made the experience even better. The atmosphere in Phylli’s Room was cosy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed Sunday meal. It's definitely worth coming back for – highly recommend!

Great service and atmosphere. I was really looking forward to the big Yorkshire and while it was good it wasn’t something someone couldn’t create at home. Also my peas were raw. So I really felt the heavy price tag of $35 is ridiculous. My partner liked the steak but they didn’t bother to make it medium rare n since we paid $37 for it. It was just something simple not done right. Again the pricing needs to be better. It was a ridiculous amount for something that wwe could get down the road.

Taphouse Sydney, located in the heart of Darlinghurst, has undergone a major refresh and now offers a vibrant experience over three levels. The main bar boasts an earthy and intimate interior, while the rooftop terrace features a retractable roof and stunning views of Darlinghurst. The menu on the rooftop includes classic Cantonese dishes designed for sharing, complemented by a selection of over 20 taps, wines, and cocktails.
On my quest to try every Spice Bag in Sydney, Taphouse really sets the bar high. Ticked every box for the dish and especially the curry Sauce which I wanted to marry. Super friendly service both in greeting and stopping for a chat on the way out. Impressive selection of tap beers too.

Overall: high 4/7 personally It’s good vibes and a good location to catch up - less if a good place for food. Do note that some of their more “special” items are specials that are only available on certain days of the week. Upstairs is very cool! Just quite hot in the summer. Spice bag: 5/7 Pretty good! All well fried and decently seasoned. Curry sauce is good pairing. Signature fried rice: 4/7 Pretty typical, decently fried. Fairly sizeable portion, we got the regular. Chilli chicken: 4/7 Chicken is reasonably fried and not overly dry. Just feel it’s drowned in too much sauce. Otherwise good.

Had the most amazing experience booking the rooftop for my birthday with Taphouse Sydney - reasonable pricing and beautiful setup! Achilleas was super helpful, responsive and flexible to all my enquiries, which made the planning process so smooth. Also wanted to say a huge thanks to the managers on the night Jake and Quin who helped with getting my DJ, speeches, cake and trivia sorted (even when I forgot my laptop to project onto the screen). The boys Jude and Lincoln were so sweet and lovely serving my friends and family all night. It was such a special night for me and everyone who came loved the venue. Would highly recommend :)

Freshwaters Harbord Hotel, formerly known as the Hilton, has recently undergone a major transformation with a new white-washed look and updated interiors. Amazing food, but the service needs improvement. If I were rating this place on food alone, it would easily get 5 stars. The meals and drinks are always fantastic—I’ve been here several times and the quality has never disappointed. However, the service really lets the experience down. Some of the staff come across as disengaged and not particularly welcoming, which makes the atmosphere feel a bit off. On our most recent visit, we were told at 6pm that the table was needed again by 7pm. While I completely understand that tables are booked for specific time slots, being told this during our meal felt abrupt and uninviting this should either be mentioned at the start betore sitting down or closer to the time needed. It made the experience feel rushed, almost like a conveyor belt restaurant! For the price point, which isn’t necessarily cheap, the level of service just doesn’t match the quality of the food. Hats off to the chefs!

So disappointed. Long time customer of the Hilton but it had been a few years. Had high expectations. 4 of us ordered entrees and mains. Entrees came, 3 of the mains came. After 10 minutes we asked about the missing main, it's an open kitchen so we could see the conversation, the kitchen missed it on the docket. We were told it would be 4 minutes. 10 minutes later we asked again only to see they had missed it again. By this time the other 3 had finished their meals. I cancelled, got a refund and left disappointed at the shocking service and attention to detail.

Really disappointed.. We came a few years ago to Balsa and got the set menu. It seemed as if then it was fine dining. Amazing food and great table service. We came tonight and were extremely disappointed. It felt like a pub. No longer the amazing table service and now poor quality food. The food was deep fried and really below average. We paid $170 which included 2x of the set menu’s and 2x wines. We would happily pay this for a high quality experience and high quality food but this was so below average. Deep fried in seed oils and tasteless. We will not be back.

As a coeliac, I’m always a bit nervous about eating out, but I was working in the area today and a mate mentioned that the Harbord Hotel has a lot of gluten free options. I decided to check out the menu, and while I’m usually worried about cross-contamination, I noticed that everything that could be deep-fried was actually marked as gluten-free. That gave me hope that they’ve really thought it through and that their fryer is completely gluten free. I’m happy to say I’ll definitely be going back the fish and chips were incredible!

Please don’t open reservations for dinner when you have 95% of the restaurant booked with a wedding. Please don’t tell your patrons to go and order at the bar for a $42 steak because you can’t work out how to take their order.. Menu is amazing, fit out is amazing. But for the prices (even though it’s a “hotel”) people want to feel an experience. That was awful.

As a French native living in Australia for 16 years, last night I had the best surprising culinary experience of a long time. I was randomly joining my in-laws in the Cricketers Pub and we decided to go to the restaurant upstairs. The menu was full of traditional French dishes. I asked the chef to surprise us. So he did perfectly! With preparing an assortment of handmade traditional dishes that reminded me of my childhood “Pate en croute” Pate de foie”, “Terrine au pruneau”, “Rillettes” then “traditional steak fritters with wine sauce” and for dessert “a delicious chocolate tart with fruits. All surrounded by 2 bottles of Côte du Rhone to open our senses. I'd like to offer my compliments to this chef! Don't miss out. Go quickly before he becomes too famous, and you have to book six months in advance.

Lured here by the “best ever” crispy skin chicken Kiev’s and all the talk about the vibe. Happy to report the staff have been delightful, the beers were good, food on point and the vibe was great. We loved sitting outside the front with the fading remnants of the sunset and fresh air. Very cute little pub. The Aperol Spritz was a little watery from a flavour perspective and I could have had a little more juiciness to the Kiev. Would be happy to return.

The Henson Park Hotel is a laid-back neighborhood pub with a rustic-chic decor and a large, leafy beer garden offering craft beers. It's unashamedly family-friendly with a kids' ball pit in the back and an Asian-inspired menu featuring dishes like Szechuan fish taco and salmon fillet baked in banana leaf. The venue boasts a gorgeous open-air back garden, chic courtyard, and safe play area for children.
We had an event hosted at the Henson on a Saturday. Our previously booked in venue cancelled on us last minute, and The Henson was very helpful in helping us out on short notice. The communication I had with Kate was open and easy, all my questions were answered and I felt totally confident in the venue. I was not let down! The managers on the night, Katie and Andrew, were super helpful and all the staff were friendly and attentive. Their side bar was a great venue space and everything went smoothly :) I would highly recommended this venue for anyone wanting a classic Inner-West pub feel for their party.

We visited Henson Bar and Restaurant for an outing and had high hopes based on their 4.5-star reviews, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The bar staff member who welcomed us was incredibly friendly, and her service was a clear 5/5. However, the rest of the staff seemed a bit disengaged, likely because they were busy with a photo shoot. The food was where things really fell short. The steak we initially wanted wasn’t available, so we ordered the schnitzel with Sri Lankan curry sauce, which sounded fascinating. While the presentation was great, the chicken schnitzel itself was partially raw, mostly just crispy skin with little substance. Serving undercooked chicken is unacceptable and very unsafe. The chips were fine, and the coleslaw was just okay, but the main meal was a major letdown and couldn’t even be eaten. We also noticed the table we sat at was sticky, which added to the disappointment. For a total of $56 (without drinks), we expected much more. While we appreciate the friendly bar lady’s service, the overall experience fell way below expectations. We won’t be returning. It’s disappointing to see a place with such high reviews not deliver on basic food safety and quality. Hopefully, they can take this feedback on board to improve.”

I was around Marrickville today and feeling hungry, so I decided to check out a nearby pub with some great reviews. The atmosphere was nice, but overall the experience was just okay. The wait time was a bit longer than expected, and the pricing felt a little steep for the portions and quality. The food was decent, but not quite enough to draw me back again.
Kresta — Google review
A very solid pub for catching up with friends. Very solid vibes, helped with the building's historic structures. The staff were so friendly and so keen to have a chat. A good selection of beers, and great food options available. The reason it wasn't five stars was that the steak and guineas pie I had was very lacklustre, with no hint of seasoning at all to compliment the meat and rich gravy. But I know that on good days, they provide some great food (I remember have a traditional pork ramen here a few years ago which was incredible)

I went with a few friends and we were pleasantly surprised. The place is quite busy, which is a good sign, and it has a really nice atmosphere. It's cozy and welcoming. The staff was very attentive, coming to the table to ask if everything was okay and making sure we were satisfied. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and I really liked it. One of the highlights was the Krabby's — very tasty! My friends had a burger and a vegetarian sandwich, and they both enjoyed their meals as well. Overall, it’s a place I would definitely recommend. It’s great for spending a nice time with good food and company. The prices are reasonable too. The only downside is that service can be a bit slow, probably because it's always busy. But in general, everything was great, and we’d be happy to come back

Lovely pub. Great food, no pokies and a few pinball machines and pool tables. Proper pub. Visited this bar during my vacation in Sydney. This is definitely where the locals hang out. Loved this place especially the happy hour menu $5.50 AUD beers and house wine. The assistant manager made us feel so welcomed (wish I remembered his name but he’s the guy from Brazil) and the bartenders were also fast and nice to chat with. Vibey little pub for a Sunday. We popped in for the post marathon celebration and it had a good buzz. Bit of a letdown that the pint for schooner deal on their site wasn’t being honoured. Went the parma (parmi here I guess) and the chicken was spot on, juicy and tasty, the rest was pretty standard pub
Chris ( — Google review
It’s a decent pub, but the staff had accidentally charged me $25 for a schooner of carlton draught. Maybe that was meant to be a pint size? Still, it seems very excessive. Disappointed because next time when I paid for a second one it was $11 Advice: Just be careful to check what you’re paying for before you tap and go. The venue overall is comfortable and laidback, good for a quiet casual drink.

A great pub with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Over the years, it has kept its same atmosphere - lively but still comfortable, and the balcony seating is perfect for sitting back and watching the world go by. The drinks selection is decent, though the wine list is a little limited, but it’s a pub after all, and the beer and cocktails make up for it. Convenient location, friendly service, and a great spot to unwind after work or catch up with friends.

This place is always been my go to for a beer in Surrey Hills. Drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very good. However I ordered the Sunday barbecue special and I was incredibly disappointed. I paid $35 for this meal and when I got it, it looked nothing like the photo. All the portions are not true to the photo. While everything was delicious, the value of this dish was not great. I brought this up with the staff and they didn’t seem interested. The burgers would have been a better option as I’ve had them before and they are good.

Most delicious gf fish and chips. Generous helping. Friendly staff. Good service. For me the music was too loud. We went out to the lovely courtyard to get away from the music but it was still too loud. However. If you are gf ..the best fish and chips ever!

This is such a beautiful place to meet with friends for dinner and drinks. Sitting under the oak tree at night with the lights is such a beautiful atmosphere and the food was exceptional as well! I had some dietary requirements and the staff was more than happy to accommodate!

My local boozer. Not eaten here before, but if you're going for drinks it's relatively cheap and is often busy - has a very good vibe. Trivia on Thursdays, and music from time to time on weekends. Its one of my favourite dives.

Came for a short gaming experience. The machine jamed up and tool my winning money. The asked me to come back and pick up the money later. The sad part is all the way through the staff has been so rude as if I owe them money. There are so many beautiful pubs at Surry Hills. Avoid this place at all cost!

Nestled in the heart of Petersham, Public House Petersham is a charming pub that perfectly blends rustic vibes with a modern twist. This inviting spot boasts a spacious beer garden adorned with lush plants and colorful lights, creating an enchanting atmosphere for patrons to unwind. Even on quieter nights, the friendly ambiance buzzes with life as locals gather to enjoy delicious bar food and an impressive selection of craft beers on tap.
The rump steak special here is an absolute steal when it’s on. Please never stop serving the steak with the red wine jus, it’s so much better than the gluggy, gloopy, insipid sauces 99% of other pubs serve with steak. Even the dessert, the tiramisu fried ice cream (pictured) was really nice. However, I have two criticisms. First, the choice of beers on tap is incredibly boring. It’s run of the mill Young Henry’s and major brewery stuff. It was way better a few years ago. Second, the outside dining area does not have enough lighting, which leads to quite a sombre mood unfortunately.

My partner and I use to come here quite often before they changed the menu. The food was amazing, delicious and fresh, decently priced and the atmosphere was great. We decided to come here again and realised the menu changed quite a lot as well as the prices, which were significantly more expensive. The prawns were terrible… $26 dollars for four prawns which had absolutely no meat on them. They were inedible because all there was to it was the shell of the prawn. It was a complete waste of money. We also ordered the steak which was $48, it was extremely chewy and watery. The zucchini flowers were just gross and oily, we could not eat them. The pizza was fine, but not as good as what it use to be and covered in oil. I would only recommend for families and children, other then that its not great for adults wanting a good pub meal with drinks.

The renovation is great. So much more space and light! The kids area is A+ however the floor seemed to be wet, maybe it was cleaned before opening and hadn't dried yet? Also the highchairs are pretty low compared to the outdoor tables. Our 10 month old smacked his face on the sharp edge of the wooden table. Other than that I am super impressed

Fantastic chicken burger. The fried chicken in the burger was great, the spicy sauce is exactly that. A great combo. Reminds me of the chicken burger that used to be served at the bat and ball.

We had a big party of 20 to celebrate a bday. Staff were very happy to provide cake plates and knife. Food arrived promptly and was yum. Drink prices were appropriate and options were good. Kid play area is awesome! Appropriate for our kids from ages 2-7. We’ll be back time and time again.

Cool spot with a nice beer garden. Was a shame that many of the beers on tap were out. Pizzas were so good! Had the pepperoni and Italian sausage. Wood fired to perfection and flavour in every bite! Points for having a vegan ricotta option on the menu - will need to come back to try it

They desperately need more staff behind the bar. Like heaps more. Went to get a drink and the line was ten deep and there was one girl behind the bar. The other couple are wandering around ferrying drinks to tables. So I caved and figured I'd use the stupid thing to order from the table. 25 minutes later and still no drinks. They obviously need more staff behind the bar. But the immediate fix is to get rid of the table ordering option. People go to the bar, see the long line, so use the table ordering option instead, which takes more staff away from the bar, which makes the line longer, which means more people use the table ordering option, which, well, you get the point. It creates a viscous circle of slow service. It's a pub, people are used to ordering at the bar so make that the only option, but have four people behind there instead of one. This is definitely costing them revenue. Kudos to the manager however, who's trying to make the best of a difficult situation.

We ordered the steak medium rare and on the menu it said - red wine jus. We got well done and a gravy. Also we had the potato pizza - arrived 15 mins later than my partners steak. I asked for a little bit blue cheese on it, got the pizza with non on it. Pizza base was very yummy though. Staff never around… overall I wouldn’t go again.

The Royal Hotel Paddington is a popular multilevel venue located in the Five Ways district of Paddington. It features a swanky cocktail lounge, smart sports bar, and upscale pub grub. The highlight of this boutique space is its divine rooftop on the fourth floor, offering incredible views of the chic eastern part of the city and even the Harbour Bridge. It's an ideal destination to unwind after shopping along William Street in Paddington and enjoy a beautiful sunset with a cocktail in hand.
We went to this place for lunch because we got a deal on the EatClub app for discounted food and drink which was really good. My friend and I both ordered burgers and it was delicious. It'd be better if the dish goes with some sort of salad in my opinion though. It was during the week so there was only one or two other tables but the food did take a bit of time to arrive.

The staff were friendly and helpful, putting requested sport & commentary on the TVs when asked. The Sunday Roast looks the part, but sadly didn’t taste of much. Needs some work on the meat & gravy.

Went to their truffle dinner and it was terrible. Chefs were so slow they took 3 hours to finish the dishes in the tiny course they had. Though because they are a pub they probably did it on purpose so you'd keep ordering drinks. Nothing tastes good. The first dish was a garbage over burnt bread. There were no truffles except for the 1 dish with meat which had a little. Asides from the truffle the meat dish tasted good, its why this gets a 2 star on food and not 1 star. For $180 you're honestly better off flushing $168 down the toilet, going to mcdonalds and getting a big mac for the remaining $12. Quicker service, better taste, and you aren't held hostage for 3 hours. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want a beer. I take good photos. Don't let them fool you into thinking those abominations tasted good. Meat one was ok though, apparently the chef was from a good restaraunt who cooked it, so no wonder.
Ray G — Google review
I ordered the mushroom and halloumi burger and requested the vegan option. I was curious to see what would replace the halloumi - but when the meal arrived, it was literally just four slices of mushroom with some sauce in a bun. That’s it. It came with chips and still cost the full $26. To be fair, I didn’t think to ask what the substitution would be so that’s on me. But it’s also 2025. The bare minimum would’ve been to throw in some tomato, lettuce, or something to make it feel like a complete burger. Instead, it felt like the kitchen just removed the cheese and called it a day. If you’re going to offer a vegan option, please don’t treat it as an afterthought. It shouldn’t take much effort to create something that feels like a proper meal and not just a stripped-down version of the original. I actually like the Royal as a pub, it has a nice atmosphere and the service was really good so this is just super disappointing.

The Oaks is a long-standing establishment offering craft beer, cocktails, and upscale pub food in a retro-themed setting. It features a leafy patio with an impressive oak tree adorned with twinkling lights, making it an ideal spot for Sunday sessions. The venue offers diverse ambiance options including a chic garden pavilion, a rustic Bar & Grill room, and a sleek front bar. Specials such as Sunday roasts and Monday chicken schnitty nights are popular among patrons.
The beer garden at The Oaks is absolutely magical – shaded by a majestic oak tree draped in fairy lights, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal. We ordered the chicken schnitzel, oysters, and fish tacos – all were fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The oysters in particular were incredibly fresh. I also had the lychee cocktail which was light, sweet, and delicious. Great vibes, friendly service, and a lively yet laid-back atmosphere. A favourite spot for a reason!

A mainstay in this location for decades. A real landmark for the north shore! Extremely eye-catching oak tree, which looks spectacular glowing with fairy lights in the evening. Various rooms and outlets in the complex to imbibe, eat, and catchup with loved ones and friends. Staff were very kind in allowing us to move through the complex throughout the evening while celebrating an after party of a wedding. Thank you!

The Oaks is an excellent choice if you are looking for a place to enjoy good food, quality drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. I am very glad I decided to visit, as the experience was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. This venue is perfect for groups and makes a fantastic spot to spend a weekend with friends or family. There are several distinct sections within the venue, each catering to different occasions. There is a lively bar area, a space that appears suitable for private gatherings, and a beautiful open courtyard. We chose to sit outside, close to the magnificent oak tree that gives the venue its name, and it created a lovely, relaxed setting. The drinks were excellent, offering a great selection and prepared with care. The food quality was outstanding—flavourful, well presented, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Every dish we tried was impressive and matched the high standard set by the venue. The service was equally noteworthy. The staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. Whether you are looking for a casual catch-up, a weekend celebration, or simply a spot to enjoy a great meal and drinks in a charming setting, The Oaks is well worth a visit. The combination of its beautiful surroundings, excellent food and drinks, and warm service makes it a place I would happily return to and recommend to others.

Love the Bat and Ball. Always feel welcome, has a great atmosphere, genuinely friendly staff an the food is great. We tried the lasagne for the first time this visit and it was delicious. It's my daughter's favourite, she's non-verbal but definitely lets us know how excited she is when we visit. And the food always seems to come out quickly no matter how busy it might be.

The stay was good, until it started raining. The first drips started falling in the kitchen, and then in some of the rooms. For now, they’ve closed it down to restore the roof. I’m sure once the repairs are done, the hostel will be really cool. The volunteers are super nice and keep the common areas clean. The location of the hostel is perfect, and if they take care of it, it’s a really good price-quality option. There’s a bar downstairs, but you get used to the noise; the music isn’t too loud. The bar, for drinks and food, is pretty good.

Hint - book a table if you're hitting up the Sunday roast in the front bar (or you'll probably miss out!) Our group of 4 friends had a great Sunday roast at the end of June. Options were chicken $30, or roast beef $34. Grabbed a bottle of wine for $45 (bottles of wine from their bottle shop attracts $15 corkage - but still cheaper than most places) and we shared amongst friends. Lovely. Super popular, lots of families. My only feedback - only 2 small roast potatoes it's just not enough. They were delicious!! Desserts: Sticky date pudding was lovely too. Will save the choc tops for next time. The other meals we saw coming out looked tasty and decently portioned (I have a big appetite!). We'd definitely come back (on a non match day if I wasn't heading to the footy).

We had the most wonderful Father’s Day lunch! The staff were absolutely amazing, friendly, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. They went above and beyond to help us pull off a surprise for my husband, which made the day extra special. The food was fantastic and perfect for a relaxed celebration. It’s rare to find a spot that nails both service and flavour, but The Bat and Ball delivered on both fronts. That KFC gravy! Thank you for helping us create such a memorable afternoon.

Stop for a chicken parmigiana. The stand out here was the condiments they had a great condiment shelf. Chicken parmigiana cooked well but the crumb was a bit too thick for me. The tomato base was okay and a bit lite on. The ham was good quality soccer ball ham with the cheese being a bit lite on. The chips were good and the salad was good with a vinaigrette on it. 4 out of 5 plates cleaned.

Dove & Olive is a lively and rustic pub in Surry Hills that offers an array of craft beers on tap and inventive pub grub. The establishment has been transformed into a modern space with well-presented food, but it's their expertly curated beer offerings that stand out. They are known for their unusual tipples on tap and have received recognition for their Sunday Pub Roasts. The atmosphere is described as friendly, especially for group gatherings, with both inside and outside seating available.
We visited this hotel the other night and had a great meal. The steak melted in your mouth and the spicy cauliflower was delicious. I'd definitely put this on your list if you like a good pub meal. Happy hour is always another great incentive and they do have a great selection of craft beers.

I've held two events at the Dove & Olive, both in the Terrace area, and both times have been great. This weekend, we opted for the minimum spend and a staffed event. Anna looked after us from 2 pm until close and was very attentive. We had the entire upstairs bar to ourselves, so service was super quick. They have an amazing selection of beer, and the food menu is also great! Couldn't recommend it enough if you're looking to host an event!

We recently hosted a charity fundraising trivia night in the top bar at the Dove & Olive. Event organisers will know how stressful these nights can be, but the D&O team made it effortless. Chris, Jamie, Sonya and the staff were all outstanding, nothing was too much trouble while Bianca delivered a fantastic trivia session that kept everyone engaged (& laughing!) The night ran seamlessly, the atmosphere was brilliant, and we’re now planning to make it an annual event. A huge thank you to the wonderful team at this great pub - it was fabulous night!

I had the beef pie and it was dreadful. It was dry, small, and the serving of peas was hilariously tiny. Honestly, one of the worst pub meals I’ve had. Decent enough beer selection but no nitro stout. You’re far better off visiting the Shakey up the road for some very good food and a decent pint of Guinness!

Outstanding range of beers, but all of our group thought the food was bang average, especially the anorexic chicken wings and the greasy and powdery chips. I certainly wouldn't visit this venue for the uninspired food, but thankfully you visit the Dove & Olive for the craft beer and here it never disappoints. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable about the different beers and there are many great seating options, inside, outside and upstairs. Drinking, then highly recommend. The Lord Gladstone Hotel is a cool, restored corner pub with graffiti-covered walls and live music. It has a good selection of beer and had an excellent brisket burger and nice chips. The nachos also looked good. The only downside was that the music was too loud to chat comfortably. The staff were amazing and ordered the smoked brisket burger for takeaway - highly recommend!
Sydney’s best burger according to Tamm So I had the Triple Cheeseburger here a little while ago, and it was sooo good. I didn’t know if I just had a great night out or the burger really was that good. Tonight I went back, and besides the lovely service the friend I brought with me and I can confirm it’s one bloody good burger. It’s got all the things I like, and none of the things I prefer avoided. A good bun that’s not too sweet, red onion, pickle, a great patty juicy enough to drip a little but not drop any of the contents, SO cheesy… and the chips are crisp shoestring fries with a reasonable amount of salt. I’ll definitely be making this place a regular, even if I just want a great burger.

I had an incredible night at The Lord Gladstone Hotel! I saw an amazing band called Jericho perform — their set was energetic and unforgettable. Spent a few hours ( at the Lord Gladstone) on Sunday afternoon listening to some awesome music. Decided to get some food and we weren’t disappointed. It’s pretty standard pub food, but definitely hit the spot. The crinkle fries are THE BEST I’ve tasted in Australia. Their salt blend was incredible. I’d go back just for the music (it was rave music situated out the back) and the crinkle fries.

Every time I’ve been to this place I’ve had excellent service. Renae and Cameron have always done a fantastic job serving in a casual yet professional way. Perfect for this kind of venue. Love paying $25 for a Coles multi-buy burger bun, that was toasted with the chefs hot breath, with a single patty of the saddest excuse of meat that rivals a coke fiends 2am attempt at self pleasure. The sprinkling of leftover chips on the side of the plate was weaker than the West Tigers defense this season. Jake Howsam Lowe said the pizza was great though.

WOULD BE 0 STARS IF I COULD ! My partner and I had an absolutely shocking experience at Duke Hotel Enmore. While we were minding our own business, two staff members, an English man with a strong accent and a woman with black hair and a blonde strand who proudly boasted about being on break and working their began screaming at us, mocking us, and making obscene gestures, including swearing and putting their middle fingers up. Their behaviour was aggressive, completely unprovoked, and utterly unacceptable for anyone representing a hotel. The woman with black hair went so far as to make disgusting, mocking comments about my sexuality followed by asking if I “wanted to touch her hair ” while laughing at me and making fun of my clothing, knowing I’m queer woman with my partner. This behaviour was not only unprofessional but deeply offensive and discriminatory. Things escalated when they continued shouting and even came close enough to spit as they yelled. Despite us trying to ignore them, they kept up their harassment. To make matters worse, when the manager finally came over after witnessing their staff’s behaviour, instead of addressing it, he accused us of being the problem and told us to leave( despite the fact we had just bought drinks and had to leave them there ) . One of the staff members even raised his fist in my face and shouted at me while I remained silent while talking to his boss. I have never in my life experienced such disgusting and unprofessional behaviour in any hospitality setting. Management should be ashamed of how they handled this defending such behaviour is unacceptable. I strongly advise anyone considering staying here to think twice. I have definitely considered filling in a report to anti discrimination along with reporting to liquor and gaming NSW under the behaviour of staff if a formal apology is not attended to. This situation has caused my partner to feel extremely unsafe around this location especially considering we are locals.

I visited here during the day when it was a relaxing spot for a drink, sat in the large open windows watching the world go by. But for any rock music lover it must be a dream place in the evening - even the food menu is geared appropriately to the genre! There’s a full set up on the stage for bands and the decor has lots to admire as well. A decent pub for sure and one I’ll return to soon.

Is saying you go to The Duke for the food like in ye olde days saying you buy playboy for the articles? You could seriously go here just for the food, it’s excellent. But you could also check out a free band, have a pickle back, or go to an obscure film screening night. The Duke preserves the best parts what used to exist in venues like Frankie’s and the Flinders, and adds a flavour uniquely Enmore. You’ll either love it or hate it, but it is easily the best rock dive night out in Sydney.

Had an awesome Saturday night at The Golden Sheaf in Double Bay! The vibe was electric with great live music, delicious food, and a buzzing crowd. Perfect spot for drinks with friends or a fun night out. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was top-notch. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!

Was too busy to eat or drink there, but not too busy to visit! Last time I was here, There was a couple in America saying “ We can still call her Taylor, even though she’s a girl” (FYI Taylor Swift 1989) Really love the atmosphere. The pub was well maintained. Staff were friendly. Loved having the tree in the beer garden. Reminded me of the oaks neutral Bay. There is also a back entrance, which is handy. Parking out the back. Enjoyed reading the sporting photos and photos famous people who have visited the pub. Also an area for live music. I like the way the poker machines were “encapsulated” within the Hotel. Have already booked a table for the 2nd of November 2029. I can celebrate 50 years of the east suburbs railway, my wife’s birthday and most importantly being able to catch a train to Woollahra station and walking to the pub. No doubt will visit for a meal and beer before then.

Our favourite pub in Sydney. Place has awesome vibes. Staff are super friendly. Food is delicious, and portions are huge. Would 110% recommend

Finished work early and went for lunch. You can see it’s a nice place to be just my timing was off for hanging out. Had a chicken parmigiana. The chicken was cooked nicely and the tomato base store bought but used wisely. The cheese was a good choice nice mozzarella with a sprinkle of cheddar on top which made you interested in the dish. Great move. The chips were thick cut so they held their heat ( plate wasn’t pre warmed) but nice. The salad was a bit plain. I had no seasoning/ dressing on my salad but others had just a little olive oil. 4 out of five plates cleaned.

August 2025 I stopped at The Golden Sheaf for a casual dinner on a quiet Wednesday night and didn’t regret it. On the chilly evening, it was warm and cozy inside. The service was friendly, and the food was delicious.

Music was better than half the clubs in sydney. Got some cocktails pretty late into the night, was a 10 - 15min wait after ordering but worth every second. Great place, will definitely be going back!

Just wanted to say big thank you to all the staff for helping me to organise my 40th birthday party last Saturday. I’ve rented the private section upstairs called The Canopy for 50ish people. Everyone was super helpful, well organised, and very professional from the coordinator to staff members on the day. You made my special day great 😊

Paddo Inn is a sophisticated boutique pub that offers refined global dining and cocktail jugs. The establishment has evolved into a high-end dining experience under the guidance of chef Matt Moran, offering a more casual menu in its classical front bar with craft beers on tap. The sociable wood-flanked booths are perfect for a quick lunch, lazy dinner, or after-work drink.
Always a pleasant experience at the Paddo Inn. Had the Sunday roast and was completely impressed by the portion size. Great atmosphere with a jazz band - engaging duo with a lively audience. Lots of different break out areas within the bar and an inside smoko area. A great local with friendly staff, come with friends for, watching live sport or watch the world go by on Oxford Street.

Mixed feelings about the Paddo Inn. We ordered via the app on the table and two of our orders arrived in the expected time, the third order was lost somewhere and almost an hour to sort out. The order receipt was provided various staff and we were told numerous times either the kitchen was busy to the order never went through the to kitchen. The steak finally arrived and it was good and they did comp, but still, not the best service in trying to sort out the order. The schnitzel were a decent meal but they there lukewarm at best and the chips were bordering on cold. The pub is nice and has a warm atmosphere but the indifference of the staff doesn’t scream ‘come back’. Overall disappointing.

I had an amazing experience a few days ago! The atmosphere of the place was really nice, but what truly made the difference was the service from the Latina girl, Katy. From the very beginning, she was kind, attentive, and friendly. You could tell she really knows her job and genuinely cares about giving great service. She recommended drinks based on our preferences, and absolutely nailed it. I couldn’t let more time pass without writing this review, she truly deserves it. Katy is the kind of person who makes you want to come back, not just for the drinks, but for how she makes you feel. 100% recommended.

The security sent my friend home. Very fair but took her away and said we can all keep drinking so she can find her own way home. As someone who also works in security this is never how I’d treat someone who is intox. To send a young girl home in the city by herself with no witness to know of her surroundings is awful and out of touch. Like I said, very fair to kick someone out for intox. But in training you make sure this person has a safe way home. Lack of care is very obvious here

Pub
The Duke of Clarence is a hidden gem nestled in Sydney's CBD, drawing inspiration from 18th century English taverns. The pub offers a cozy and historic ambiance, perfect for savoring cocktails, cask ale, and traditional British cuisine. Guests can enjoy the decadent Sunday roast dinners and warming cocktails while soaking in the uniquely British experience. Despite its somewhat unexpected location, visitors can relish their meals at outdoor tables or indoors on comfortable sofas.
Absolutely loved it!! I scheduled my lunch to be on a quiet time after peak lunch hour so I could get a nice seat next to the fireplace, and my perfect plan worked! It was very relaxing, specially on such cold day, to enjoy reading, eating and drinking in such warm atmosphere. The steak was divine, cooked to perfection, everything was delicious! More people started to arrive and sitting near me, and it was a very friendly bunch, we had great conversations! Adding to my list of favourite places in Sydney! Thank you!

I came for the Sunday roast and a good pint of beer. I wasn’t disappointed. I got the lamb roast and a three sheets ale and it was all delicious. I’m going back again for the Monday steak night special. I like the pub atmosphere the food is good and the service is quick. Don’t let the alley and the trash bins deter you. Update: I came back the next day for the steaks Monday special. The Monday steak was not as good as a Sunday Lamb. But I still enjoyed having a pint of lager with my meal.

A real and proper British style pub experience. The hand-pulled ales are delicious, and true to form proper cask ales, meaning fermentation of sugars breaking down which causes the “fizz” and foam, as opposed to artificial carbonation. Atmosphere is relatively dark and cozy, just want you want for a pub nestled into the corner of an alley outside of the immediately hustle and bustle of the surrounding CBD area. Service was impeccable, very attentive and chatty, with great cocktails to boot. Great experience, even for just a duck in visit for a quick pint.

Tucked away in the laneway but a lovely gem. Fantastic atmosphere and decorated like an old English pub. We had the Sunday Roast which was delicious and filling. They had a few different types to choose from. Service was great. Tiny venue so it’s not for a long session.

The Light Brigade is a historic pub with four floors, each offering a unique experience. On the ground level, guests can enjoy classic pub fare while watching live sports games. The next level features Subida, a modern Spanish pintxos and tapas bar that offers an eight-course Chef's Selection menu. However, the highlight is the top-floor bar, Brigade Rooftop, which has recently undergone a stylish refurbishment.
They have seating on multiple floors, and by 5:30 the place started filling up quickly! Food was served in reasonable time and was good pub food. Beef Ragu Pappardelle was the best of what we tried.

A very nice venue, let down by apathetic stuff and absent management. This place had some of the filthiest bathrooms I have been to, and a bartending team that does not even know how to make a Manhattan which is a pretty basic cocktail. Our pizzas were left sitting on the counter for 40 minutes to get cold while the staff milled about chatting and laughing behind the bar rather than notify us that our order was ready

What a shame for such an iconic rooftop view. First time visiting and probably the last. Even though I just moved into the neighbourhood. Beautiful building, and the front-of-house staff were lovely. The food was honestly some of the worst I’ve had at a Sydney pub in a long time. We were a group of 4. Ordered a couple of small mixed plates to share, planning to follow with burgers. Told everything would come out at once — apparently the kitchen can’t stagger dishes? We were the only table in the venue at opening. Surely it’s not that hard to hold off cooking a burger for 15 minutes when there is no other dockets. I've work in Hospo and managed restaurant and also dine in many Pub. it's not that hard you just "don't care" Then the food arrived… and it was disappointing and sad just to look at to say the least. (Pics) But give it the benefit of the doubt and tried it. Calamari was like rubber bands, polenta chips were fried to death, and the $32 double patty burger was so overcooked it was dry and tough — usually a sign of poor-quality meat or bad cooking. We spoke to the manager, who was understanding. Not their fault, but someone in the kitchen either needs training or retirement. We spent $140 on food and left most of the food that the manager removed after we spok. At that point, even just a round of drinks or a bottle of wine (who is about $20 cost price) as a goodwill gesture would’ve made a difference. I rarely leave bad reviews, but for a Paddington pub, this was seriously underwhelming.
Jo C — Google review
The Ceviche was really disappointing, i understand its a pub, but if someone offers something the should know a little more about how to make the product. Fish was old and stinky so i didn’t eat it, no lemon at all, big pieces of fish and some other stuff like sweet potatoes…hmm oke it sounds good though on the menu but its really bad made. Buffalo wings was okey but not special Burger was burned and had a bitter taste and definitely not how should be. The rooftop is the only thing why i could consider to come back for a drink. Drinks are not bad. But No mocktails at all…mocktails are so simple to make and you have anyway the higher profits at the end of the day. So why not sell them… Employees was professional, we had a birthday party and we booked a table for 10 people and we consumed from beginning everyone drinks, beer and food. But they kicked us off the rooftop after two hours even if they confirmed with a mail the reservation for the table…fair enough this is normal in Sydney and I leave it as a side note. We had fun aswell on the first floor. Yeah average pub and i gonna try probably something else next time…

I had been going to the Light Brigade for over 37 years. All was great, then enter the Laundy group, very quickly a lot of locals are disappointed with the changes to the 2 fo 1 Tuesdays, reducing to less than half of the old menu. But it was the no communication- No verbal warning, no signs, no new 2for1 menu, just having the bill doubling over night. Then they change it to taco Tueasdays- what a joke, barely any filling. We went in April 2025, ordered 12 for $60, they were so empty we had to order another 12. my 8 and 10yo wanted more. So we came home to make toast. $120 of tacos for a family of four, who had to come home to cook. Instead of writing a review, I contacted the Laundy Group. I had a group head chef contact me and tell my I would be invited back as apology of what he said wasn't acceptable. I have heard nothing. So I'll assume nothing has changed , so with a decent Mexican place a few doors up and a ton of other great pubs in Paddington, we have no need to go back.

Gosh! The worst food (i'm sorry!) I've ever had in a long time , it was really bad. The ceasar salad was dry, it can be called as lettuce salad, as it had a kg of lettuce and 20gm chicken . Buffalo Chicken wings had no seasoning . Water was the only good thing I had there

We went on a night that trivia was held to have dinner and play. You pay at the counter for your food but then you have to collect your food up on the first floor and bring it down. The food was ok but not amazing. The salad has zero dressing on it so I went back and asked for some dressing and then it started much better. The greens were delicious. Trivia was one of the worst we've been to. Felt rushed and the sound system was terrible. Couldn't hear much as there was so much other noise. We've had meals on the rooftop before and we prefer that instead

Went to The Light Brigade for our Christmas dinner party. Very good pub with lovely food but extremely noisy! We were allocated a small room on the first floor next to the kitchen, so was a little squishy for 20 people. Food was good, but on the expensive side for what we all paid per head. Service was average, which made me think they left us to our own business instead of interrupting our function to clear away dirty dishes. Parking can be a pain, being on the main road on Woollahra: two hour limit. So you might have to walk 10-20 minutes to get parking close by.

The trendy and contemporary Woollahra Hotel offers a terrace bar and a French bistro with a curved wooden ceiling. Stop in for lunch 😁 and had a Chicken schnitzel. No parma on offer. The chicken was nicely cooked with panco crumb on it. A little over done but good. The katso sauce was very nice and made for a great change. Really enjoyed it. The chips were very good. Stayed hot but not seasoned. The salad was an Asian coleslaw and was finished with a coconut vinaigrette ( I have never had one before) and was delicious. Great to try and treat yourself with this dish. 5 out of 5 plates cleaned.

We went here for Mother’s Day as we heard good things. The beef burger was really good as was the fried rice. The beef massaman could be better, the beef was a little tough and the flavour a bit bland. The venue is really nice, traditional pub but with a modern renovation. Lots of seating areas with some cosy spots for groups. There is a lift to the upstairs dining for elderly or people with mobility difficulty.

A recent dining experience at the Woollahra Hotel was worthy of a 5-star review. The recently refurbished front bar holds on to the amazing art decor style and heritage of the hotel which has been around since the 1930's. Plenty of beers on tap and a team of exceptionally skilled bar staff who made some of the best cocktails I've had in a while, highly recommend trying the gimlet. We moved up stairs to enjoy some of the Asian fusion dishes I had heard so much about. Chef Jordan and his team bring a highly elevated dining experience in a relaxed setting, the braised beef short rib and kingfish curry were the standout dishes of the night. A big thank you to the friendly and attentive team that hosted us, I highly recommend you check out the Woollahra Hotel and all it has to offer.

I knew when I was invited to a pub in Woollahra that the food would be good but the food and venue at The Woolahra Hotel are the best I have visited in 2022 - we are only halfway through the year and I am calling this the venue to beat, and I have already planned my return!! ❤️💚❤️⁣ ⁣ 🍸🍸 Recently renovated and almost restored to its original state and look from the 1930s it has old school opulence down pat. We were greeted and served cocktails and entrees downstairs in the bar and the manager discussed the renovations including the poured terrazzo floors, they are so bloody good!! The waitstaff was incredible, regularly checking in on us and seeing to our every need, then after the entrees, we were led upstairs to dine on the outdoor terrace.⁣ ⁣ And we were mind blown at such incredible dishes. ⁣ ⁣ 𝐌𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫...⁣ 🐟 STEAMED SNAPPER FILLET with soy, ginger, shallot, chilli & coriander - it was so delicately crafted and a pure delight to eat, I have thought about it regularly since my visit.⁣ ⁣ 🥘 The THAI GREEN CHICKEN with Thai eggplant, snake beans & baby corn was also marvellous and a beautiful winter curry and their BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIBS with pickled cucumber, Asian slaw, sambal mayo, and bao buns were the most tender ribs of all time - these are a favourite as you can load bao with them, but the fish won for me!⁣ ⁣ 🍷🍷 And when the mains arrived the manager brought us a wine that would pair perfectly and based on him seeing us order whites downstairs, this was exceptional service beyond anything required.⁣ ⁣ 🏆🥇🏆 I am returning soon and you need to stop what you are doing and head on in soon for a divine night. I took so many venue shots that I will post them tomorrow as stories probably. Huge thanks to the venue and the The Mint Partners for organising this sublime experience.⁣

I have not been more disappointed in a queer venue. We booked 2 weeks ago, and called to confirm our table location for the drag and dine evening. We arrived to be sat at the very back of the venue, when we were explicitly told we the whole venue would be used for the show, not the case at all. People standing completely blocking the whole view of the stage. Disappointingly, we made it clear that we had interstate visitors and they just clearly didn’t care. We have seen this show before, 4 years ago, and couldn’t stop recommending to people visiting, I will not recommend again. The bar staff were down right rude. We stood for close to 15 minutes while they made cocktails, not a single hello, how are you, I’ll be with you shortly. Nothing. Then while the bar was 3 deep, they decided to wash cocktail mixers as they went, even though there were clean ones ready to go. While washing, the two staff then decided to have a chit chat for a further 5 mins. Wait staff were lovely, apart from the clear lie about the whole venue use. Food was good. Overall, would not come back. Will not recommend. Can get much better service, show and food else where.

Fit out looks nice and the staff are friendly, but the food was horrific. It was the worst pasta I’ve had in a long time. The carbonara was dense and cakey and the pasta was really overcooked. I was able to pick the whole thing up like a hockey puck, and its consistency was far more similar to an omelette than a bowl of pasta.

We visited The Abercrombie as part of the Urban Wine Walk and really enjoyed it. The venue had a great atmosphere and was buzzing without feeling too busy. Tilly J Wines were the wine stand at this venue. They were our absolute favourite from the whole tour, such a standout! We ordered a mix of dishes for lunch and found the food to be just okay. That said, for a pub meal with exceptionally quick service, it was perfectly fine and the staff taking our orders were so helpful. Overall, a fun stop on the wine walk and somewhere I’d happily return to for drinks again.

This place has been recently renovated and it's not getting the attention it deserves. Back in the day when it used to hold parties like Sash (some 15 years ago) , it was a lousy pub with limited space for growth. After a good refurbishment and striking interior design touches and a no-fear approach of winning Sydney nightlife, I feel this place needs a deserved TLC from the bored community who doesn't know what "fun" means anymore.

Bar staff spilt a schooner glass full of vodka red bull all over me and only responded with a quick sorry almost as if he was unfazed. I asked for some sort of compensation as this completely ruined my clothes and left me drenched, just for him to look at me and ignore my request. As someone who works in the same industry, if I ever spilt a schooner glass worth of alcohol across a customer, I would be a tad more empathetic.

The Welcome Hotel is a charming 1890s pub in Balmain, Sydney, offering a mix of gourmet and everyday Australian cuisine. The dog-friendly establishment boasts a classic ambiance with plush leather couches and wooden stools. It's renowned for its extensive selection of craft beers from small breweries like Mountain Goat and Moo Brew. The venue also features an outdoor seating courtyard, indoor seating options, and even a pool table.
9th November - Our lunch choice today was The Welcome Hotel - a great story behind the name of the hotel and given the background of the hotel and the inclusion of dogs being welcome is such a great idea - not the we had ours with us but still it was nice to see such a pub. Quite historic in its decor and a great garden to enjoy our lunch in. The menu had some great options and we enjoyed the Balmain Bug and the Prawn Toast'ada. Unfortunately the Spiced Crispy Cauliflower and Cucmber Raita was not as nice as we expected - it felt a little over fried and the battering took away from the meal. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Great place for lunch in an unexpected part of the Rozelle neighbourhood

The welcome hotel is a nice out of the way place but still in the middle of town. I had the chicken schnitzel and it was delicious but the construction of the dish was something else. The chicken was cooked spot on and the crumb was great. The tomato base was on the bottom or the first layer on the plate ( different). Then real Parma ham on top with buffalo mozzarella on top. Fantastic. The rocket salad (which I normally hate ) It wasn’t the peppery one and had a little parmesan cheese on it, I would have liked a bit more but I ate more than I thought. 5 out of five plates cleaned.

The Welcome Hotel in Rozelle is a gorgeous back street corner pub, tucked away from the main drag. It's where locals go. It's got a front bar, a dining room and a courtyard out back. Something for everybody. The menu is extensive, way bigger and more adventurous than your average pub. They offer three cuts of steak: a 300g rump, a 250g sirloin, and a 400g porterhouse. We ordered the 250g sirloin. No mash option offered, so we ordered some 'Paris mash' as a side, which was nothing like genuine Paris mash, if we're being honest. The steak was good, although nowhere near their claimed 250g. The mash was not as creamy as Paris mash should be and the chicken gravy ruined it. Good mash doesn't need gravy, it just needs the meat accompaniment. Easy. Whilst the food was good, not great, but good, the front bar itself is an absolute gem. It's cosy, has a ton of tap beer options, and has a nice deep bar top - perfecting for sitting at and leaning on. And they had AFL on the TV. Result! The Welcome is a good pub!

What a Rozelle institution! Fantastic front bar - eat inside, the ambiance is unparalleled. The Scotch Fillet is one of the best valued steaks in Sydney. Cooked perfectly and not traditional in any way/shape/form, but perfect in its own Welcome way. Awesome pub!

Black Angus sirloin was delicious unfortunately the Yorkshire pudding was burnt & the potatoes overcooked - $38 All in all it was a good Sunday roast. Tip: make sure you book this place gets busy!!!

Best pub in an area of a lot of good pubs. Food is always on point and specials always interesting and new. Beer taps change regularly and nice and fresh. Can’t wait for my next visit.

By far the best pub in Rozelle. The staff are devoted to a great personal experience even at the busiest of times. Beer garden, dog friendly, although I like the more intimate front bar (and prefer cats) the Sunday pork roast is the best we have had in years anywhere in Sydney.

Located in Marrickville, the Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre is the flagship venue of Hawke's Brewing Company. This 2,100-square-meter brewery offers a unique experience that pays homage to 80s Australiana. The center not only serves as a brewery but also features a leisure area with an uncanny cultural tribute where visitors can enjoy delicious food and drinks.
Fabulous! They’ve taken old-school Chinese food and brought it up to date with flair and flavour! Fresh, real ingredients and generous portion sizes. We tried the recommended classics: prawn toast (OMG!) and deep fried Viennetta (yum) and they lived up to the hype. Mushroom fried rice was delicious without the old school grease, and a wonderful Murray Cod with ginger and shallots was perfectly cooked and subtle in flavour. Lovely retro room with a backdrop of the fermenting tanks to remind us that we’re actually in a brewery. And out the back is a wonderful showcase of photos of our country's most charismatic and fun loving ex prime minister, with some memorabilia donated by the Hawke family. Such a fun and delightful experience for a Thursday evening. We’ve already booked again to come try out more dishes. Special thanks to our waiter Harrison who provided the most unconventional and amusing service that I had ever experienced, and still managed to give great warmth and hospitality. Great retro venue, cool vibe, delicious food bringing back the comfort Chinese food we grew up loving, and snappy and attentive service. Do yourself a favour! OH! And did I mention the beer? It’s a brewery after all. Great selection of craft beers with tasting flights available. This place rocks 🌟

This was our second visit. Weekends are tricky as the restaurant only takes reservations for 4 or more and even though we arrived around 11.45 and perched ourselves at a bar table, the restaurant’s reserved tables remained infilled until we left around 1pm. This place trades itself on nostalgic old school Chinese food. Well, I was around in the 70’s and 80’s when Chinese food was a mainstay of Australian dining and I can assure you, it was nothing like what was dished up here. Ok let’s talk about the positives. Music is great, bar staff are welcoming and accommodating. The vibe is pretty cool. The food is ghastly. We ordered the soup dumplings, they were ok, not made on site, probably frozen from some wholesaler. The garlic prawns were swimming in a grey sauce, check out the photos if you don’t believe me. Crab omelette was not like anything we had experienced anywhere in Asia or even in a backwater Australian town. The cod was acceptable, but tasteless. The food was around $150 for two people. I’m pretty sure one can do better than this anywhere else in Marrickville. Visit here for the fun vibe, the great music and the overpriced drinks. Don’t eat here

Looking for the good old slap up Chinese meal? Look no further! Heard about this place and was impressed by the gluten free options for classic 80s Aussie Chinese. It’s like a staged time capsule to the 80s with a good dose of humor. Make sure you book because it was busy! But that only added to the atmosphere. Good beer, great food and friendly staff. What else can you ask for. Definitely going back. May be for Sunday yum Cha next time. (Without the coeliacs)

We had an average experience at Hawkers Brewery in Sydney. The venue itself has a nice setup and the beer selection is quite extensive, which was great to see. However, the overall vibe felt a bit underwhelming. Service was polite but not particularly engaging, and there wasn’t much atmosphere during our visit. While it’s a decent spot for a casual drink, it didn’t really leave a lasting impression. We were hoping for a bit more energy or something unique to set it apart.

This place is awesome, whoever came up with this concept is a genius. $24 for a Margarita is absolutely ridiculous, but the rest of the place is GOLD. Hearing Ritchie Benaud cricket commentary when walking into the men's room is just perfect. Great food, generally good staff (the table wait staff are great), great beer, best decor for those of us who remember our beloved mildly corrupt PM Robert Leee James bloody Hawke. Wonderful venue. Just don't order a Margarita.

The food at The Lucky Prawn inside the Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre was surprisingly good. I forgot to take photos but this place serves up super-tasty Chinese food with a side of what's fast becoming a tidy lineup of classic Aussie beers. The Prawn Toast is king, 4 steamed dimmies that packed a flavour punch, the crab omelette was silky smooth, prawns in XO yum, and the old school sweet & sour pork and beef in black bean sauce served on a sizzling hot plate is every bit worth the money (which isn't expensive, especially if you're there with a group). Our bill came to around $75pp and included a bottle of white wine, 4 pints and 2 glasses of rosé.
Sascha — Google review
A cheeky spot with delish food, yummy drinks and a good atmosphere. Yes, it's a touch pricey, that's what you get for all the Inner West coolness oozing from the bricks 😂 The food is a modern play on 1980s Chinese food, which has been done really well. It could have gone over-ginmicky, but our dishes were really yum. We ordered shrimp toast, shitake omlette and Mongolian lamb. On a Sunday, they were booked, but we grabbed a high-top table which suited just fine. 📱 Can order by QR code 🚘 A bit of a hustle, you'll circle the block for a spare street spot when busy 💳 Takes credit card 🚻 Clean toilets with 80s cricket playing over the radio

Well I stopped in for lunch and found the newly renovated pub in good shape but could do with some more art. But very tasteful in the way they renovated it. I had the veal schnitzel with cheese and Neapolitan sauce. Fantastic. The veal was amazing and the crumb was great. Not heavy just good. I think the cheese was provolone and the sauce was house made and had good flavour to it. ( all gone). The chips were great I just put a little bit more salt on them. Gold. The salad great. So much of it and the dressing was wonderful with plenty of it all over. ( this is in my top 3 schnitzels ). 5 out of 5 plates cleaned.

Retro pub really good for meeting friends. Has lots of character. Has some really hearty and great tasting and well priced meals. All meals basically range from $15 to $20 and are large, fresh and made to order. Burgers, schnitzels, lasagna, meatballs, amazing shoe string fries, etc. Weeknight specials as well. Imperial Hotel Paddington, also known as the Impy, is a popular rustic-chic pub in Sydney. It gained fame from its appearance in the movie 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' and is a prominent fixture in Sydney's gay nightlife scene. The venue hosts drag shows, themed nights, and events like drag trivia on Tuesdays and Felicity and Friends performance on Fridays.
What an adorable pub! We went in for a classic pub meal and got exactly what we hoped for. I finally got to try the schnitzel parmi, and it was delicious. The atmosphere was charming, with the feel of a traditional old-style pub. There were quaint staircases and cozy nooks, adding to its sweet and quaint vibe. I especially enjoyed chatting with one of the local ladies; she was an absolute gem. Overall, it was a delightful experience.

Food is pretty decent. Kitchen staff are lovely. Bar staff are okay but need to smile every now and again. As for the pub itself, only one word describes it - Soulless. They used have open fires in the colder weather. Now it's just cold in general, cold and soulless. Close the stadium for the footy.

I am a tourist in Sydney and didn’t expect much of the food in a pub, thinking about my experiences visiting pubs in the UK but this pub proved me wrong. It was the best steak I have had during my trip (and my husband said best chips he has ever had), even the mash potatoes and vegetables were exceptional and the service was very good too!

Edmund Resch’s own pub is one of the best. Having dined here numerous times, the food is always good and the Reschs always cold. The service has always been friendly. The after game drinks are great, even for a Rabbitoh! Recommended.

I appreciate the pub is busy after a game but I would never return. The pub owners/managers clearly do not plan for sports matches and it shows. I came after a game at Allianz Stadium (41k in attendance) and waited for 35 minutes to order drinks at the main bar. 1 of their 3 payment terminals didn’t work and in terms of staffing they had 4 staff to cover the entire bar which is not nearly enough. Further, the single staff member on the side of the bar the bouncer forced (seriously) us into was not trained at all. They made mistakes on every order (every customer was raising this) with my own missing an entire drink and another beer being the completely wrong brand and type despite me repeating it twice and pointed to it right in front of me. None of us said anything as we honestly felt sorry for them being put in this situation when they clearly weren’t ready. Would not return nor recommend.

The Hero of Waterloo Hotel is a long-standing sandstone pub in Sydney, offering modern Australian cuisine and a range of entertainment options. With its convict-hewn sandstone walls and timber floors, the venue exudes an old-world charm that adds to its appeal.
The 1st time I visited The Hero of Waterloo Hotel was part of the awesome The Rocks Ghost Tour! Loved it! (Photos on its way I promise!) What an incredible place with so much heritage and history! Returned for dinner, and still loving it! The Staff are very friendly and helpful, lots of places to seat, with comfortable seating too! The meal was delicious, good size too! Spectacular setting, gorgeous building. Surly and snootty/snotty Server. Guessing as Canadians , he assumed we were were from USA. His condescending attitude dripped of arrogance. Experience? Purest disappointment. Traveled an incredible distance to experience an adult child. Beer wasn't attractively priced but I'd gladly have paid 2x as much for a classic Aussie Server. Staffing matters. Please dismiss the adult child?

Been here many times but after today’s food offerings, I felt the need to say something. I think historically, a borderline institution like this shouldn’t think that due to its location or history, that maybe it doesn’t need to put in some effort as was evident today. Went for some beers and lunch, decided to grab the steak sandwich. Big mistake! At $35 this was a slap in the face for what it was and the price. Bland, poorly presented, chips, while cooked perfectly, not even salted. I mean the bread was not even toasted, unsure what they were going for here? While I’d go back for beers, skip the food, dreadful. They really need to lift their game in that part. Pub classics shouldn’t be difficult.

Small gristly ones. 2 of us ordered the whiskey sauce steak at $54 . Sauce was cold! This was all before there was a mixup of food being handed out. Might go for a beer if I’m around the area but there are hundreds n hundreds of places I’d prefer to eat at

A friend of mine wanted to check out some of the older bars in Sydney on a rain-filled Saturday, and we ended up at The Hero of Waterloo. Showing up at around 3 pm on a weekend, the place was packed with families, people from a nearby wedding, and a live jazz band. It was cosy, warm, and very welcoming. The four of us posted up at the bar and had a great conversation with our server who would surprise with us a new drawing on the top of everyone’s Guinness, and kept the crowd happy on a really dreary day. We didn’t stay for food - but judging by the number of people there for a late lunch that appeared to be regulars, we should have tried a few things. Worth a stop anytime you’re in town, we really did love this place. Great conversation, great beverages, and it’s hard to beat the atmosphere.

Nestled in the heart of Sydney's historic Rocks precinct, The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel stands as a testament to the city's colonial past. Established in 1841, it proudly holds the title of Sydney's oldest continually licensed hotel and is home to Australia's first pub brewery. With its charming sandstone walls that evoke a sense of history, this venue offers visitors an inviting atmosphere to enjoy modern Australian cuisine alongside an impressive selection of wines.
Have read other reviews but honestly our experience was amazing! Had the beef burger and the ploughman’s board. Both were SO good and the ploughman’s so generous, would have been enough for 2 with a side salad or entree…we were so stuffed we couldn’t finish the last bit of pork pie and cheddar, which were so tasty I half thought of just carrying them out with me for later haha. Delicious beers too as always!
Rebecca S — Google review
I’ve been eating at the Lord Nelson for about 10 years. My favourite thing was the pie, which was always fresh and had a really deeply rich taste. I dont know whats happened, but when I ate it last night it was disgusting. Cold in some places, warm in others; but the real problem was the pastry. It was hard as rocks and stale tasting. If I had to guess, it seemed like the pie had been made the day before, was frozen, and then reheated. But that cant be the case for a $20 pie, can it? Nevertheless, thats how bad it was. The other people in my party gave their food mixed reviews, the only good feedback given was for the mushroom linguine. A common complaint: food was cold in some places, hot or warm in others, which indicates reheating. I really hope that isn't the case. P.s. looking at some of the more recent reviews, I've noticed similar complaints to mine, and a response from the owners being along the generic and empty lines of “we appreciate your feedback so sorry your experience was bad one” etc. I don’t need that. Just fix the food.

We had a function held at the restaurant upstairs. The room and seating were lovely, with a vintage charm and a cozy atmosphere created by the soft, warm lighting. I had the rump steak, which was delicious, and the chips were perfectly crispy. The only downside was the organisation. Since it was a function with nearly 40 guests, we were asked to pre-order our mains a few days in advance so the kitchen could prepare. However, on the day, things still felt quite disorganised - some dishes came out very early, while others took much longer. The first mains appeared after about half an hour, and my rump steak was the last to arrive - almost a 50-minute wait, which felt especially long after a busy day.

We stayed 1 night in oct2025. The staff were friendly , welcoming and very helpful and the pub had a great atmosphere. However, it was 60 stairs to our 3 floor room and the room was very tired and desperately needed a repaint. Mould on the bathroom ceiling , walls need painting etc, sheets had holes in them. It gave the impression of being grubby. We are well aware its an old building but room 302 definitely needs some life bought back I to it

I have been coming to the Lord Nelson for over 20 years and I thought I should write this review. Although it is obviously popular with tourists, it is also extremely well used by the locals. What I have noticed in the past 6 months is how scruffy and badly run it has become. The tables are sticky and haven't been wiped. The staff are less attentive (although still friendly) and there aren't enough staff. The place just appears more run down generally. I hope this is temporary, as it is a favourite pub of mine and I would hate to see it continue to decline. Please give this pub (and its clientele) the love and care it deserves.

The Keg & Brew Hotel underwent a $10 million renovation, resulting in a multi-story establishment with one of the best rooftop bars in Sydney. The ground floor offers an American-inspired ambiance with wooden decor and taxidermy, perfect for enjoying craft beers from the almost 360-degree bar. This venue is part of the Good Beer Company and boasts multiple floors, each offering a unique atmosphere to enjoy your favorite brew.
Keg & Brew Hotel is hands down my favorite pub in the CBD! I’ve been here a few times, and every visit has been fantastic. The food is so delicious that I never have time to snap a photo before diving in. Yesterday, I tried their Tuesday burger promo (burger and fries) and went for the cheeseburger—it was amazing! I’ve also had their pizzas before, and they’re equally delicious. What really stands out is the big variety of beers they have on offer—there’s always something new to try. The atmosphere and service are always spot on, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area!

Fab pub, great food, decent beers, cosy atmosphere, epic rooftop. Brought down by the pissfest that is the unisex toilets. Pure vom. Stinks like grandpa Abe’s cesspit even at 4:30pm on a Friday. 🤢 Parmy was delicious and coleslaw delightfully acidic and refreshing even if the portion was on the very meagre side. Chips were legit maccas style fries, but came out hot crispy and well salted so I guess that’s a pass. The fried chicken burger is also epic and delicious.

The rooftop at Keg and Brew is a great spot to enjoy an afternoon drink, relaxed, breezy, and very pleasant early in the day. By Saturday evening it gets much busier and more hectic, but the atmosphere stays lively and fun. Booking for a large group was simple and straightforward, which made planning easy. Solid venue choice for both casual catch-ups and group gatherings.

I booked Level Two of Keg & Brew Hotel with my friend to celebrate our 33rd birthdays. We had an amazing night, it was exactly what we were hoping for! All our guests loved the venue and the party. 😊 I liked the fact that there are no room hire fees and that all the money you spend to privatise the room goes towards the food and drinks. Also, the entire floor is privatised for your event, so it’s completely private. We first had dinner for 27 people; the service was really good, the food was served quickly and without any mistakes. Everyone really enjoyed the food. After dinner, we dimmed the lights and started the party (about 60 guests). It was such a great night, the space is perfect for a DJ party!! We brought our own decks, lights, and monitor, and used the venue’s sound system (it worked really well, the sound system is great!) I really appreciated the whole process of planning with Poppy, it was very smooth and easy. Poppy was very helpful from the beginning and accommodating with all my requests. The team was also super flexible with the setup and pack down of our equipment and decorations, which was a huge help. The venue was perfect for both, the dinner and the party. I highly recommend this function room if you want to celebrate your birthday. 🎉 The only downside is that Level Two is licensed only until midnight, we would have loved to keep going longer! 😊

Food and atmosphere is great, rooftop bar is amazing. But I want to send my compliments to genius of hospitality who though its a great Idea, when guests order food and drinks on rooftop, lets make them to walk down to floor one to pick up their food and then walk back again. You are genius, mate! Kudos to you for such a great idea! You can be proud of yourself!
Sanan I — Google review
I’m not usually one to leave negative reviews because I know hospitality is hard but I found this experience really poor. We waited 45 minutes at lunch for our food only to find the kitchen had “deprioritised” our order in favour of other single orders, because we had 5-6 people on one bill (would you not prioritise in the order that they come in as to not leave people waiting?) We had to get our food takeaway as we had to go back to work for meetings, they forgot one of our orders and had to refund it and I opened the poke bowl up back at the office to find it was a tiny portion pictured. Those served their poke bowl at the table seemed like they got much more value for their money. Not worth $28 — won’t be going back anytime soon. Also the tills went down at the rooftop and everyone had to trek all the way to the bottom level to get their orders in. Wouldn’t have minded that had they delivered on the rest of the experience but it wasn’t to be.

Typical heritage-listed pub ideal for weekend arvo drinks. The rooftop is undoubtedly the highlight for both sunshine and after work evenings. Thanks to Meg and her team for booking several high tables as well as ample standing space. The 2 for 1 pizzas are not to be missed if you're ever by on a Saturday.

I can’t complain - not like the North Korea kind of “can’t complain.” No law prevents me from complaining. Except, perhaps, the law of human decency, and honesty. Atmosphere? It’s a matey pub. Lots of jolly dudes with mullets. Very Cronulla vibes. Food? Excellent. Service? Amazing, even on a very busy day. Good place to watch the footy.

My partner suggested we check out Northies at Cronulla to soak in the long weekend vibes, and at first, we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The place had a great energy, and we got along well with several of the staff members. My partner and I are laid-back and friendly people—she's a bit on the louder side, but always authentic and transparent. However, things took a strange turn when a random man started attacking her for no reason. Two other guys nearby stepped in and tried to tell him there was no issue, and that she hadn’t said or done anything wrong. The bar staff and others we had mingled with earlier backed her up, saying she was innocent. But the management, security, and the "FOPs" (front of house staff) were completely unhelpful. They did absolutely nothing. To make matters worse, not only did we get kicked out, but this arrogant guy was allowed to stay because his feelings were hurt? I just can't believe how the situation was handled—it felt so out of touch with common sense. Society has really become weak and petty if this is how things are dealt with

Beautiful bar by the beach. Staff were very friendly and the service was 10/10. Live relaxed music was playing on Sunday which went very well with the meal. The food quality was amazing. Would highly recommend coming here with friends or family for a meal.

Five stars for Northies. Special mention to Ben who took our order and set the tone for a great dinner. Attentive and genuinely happy to help. Service was quick, the food was fresh and generous, and the 2-4-1 on Wednesdays seals the deal. We’ll absolutely be back, thanks Ben and team!

Nestled just a stone's throw from the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, Kirribilli Hotel is a charming local pub that effortlessly combines sustainable dining with a vibrant atmosphere. With its inviting wood-panelled bar and delightful outdoor terrace, it’s the perfect spot for family meals or casual gatherings. The terrace tables are particularly popular, especially on trivia nights when locals gather to test their knowledge and vie for exciting prizes.
Came here last night with friends for trivia. We had a really enjoyable experience here. The food was tasty, well-prepared, and definitely worth the price — great portions and quality for what you pay. The staff were also fantastic — super friendly, attentive, and accommodating throughout the visit. It’s clear they care about both the food and the customer experience. Overall, a solid spot if you’re looking for good food, fair prices and welcoming service. Bonus — it’s just a short walk away from some of the best views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Perfect spot to grab a meal and then enjoy a stroll with a view! We’ll definitely be coming back!

Nice atmosphere with live music on a Saturday night. Food is quite good too. I had the chef special prawn pasta dish, and it was tasty and a good size. My friends got the lamb special and the fettuccini and both were satisfied. For pub food, it is a very high standard. I would come back and recommend!

Nice pub scrub with good meals. Must be good if one sees lots of locals dinjng. Plenty of seating inside. The service is perhaps a bit slow because it was later at night? Food was ok.

Had a very pleasant lunch of fish, chips, and salad, the fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was light and crispy. The staff were polite and efficient. We had been down to nearby Mcdougal Street to see the Jacaranda trees covered in beautiful late October blossom. Great trip out.

Had my wedding after party here, it was amazing!! Staff were very easy to contact and speak with leading up to the event and very happy to help and be flexible. The terrace was set up beautifully and all our guest commented on how nice the food was. The price was amazing for the event we were holding, we had food and drink packages which were great value and priced amazingly. I would 1000% recommend this place for anyone holding an event or in the area wanting to grab lunch. Thank you so much Kirribilli hotel staff!!

Let’s start with the bar staff. They were fabulous. Very friendly and professional They poured a great beer. The kitchen however we were very disappointed. I asked for the pumpkin salad with a small change no rocket instead I wanted baby spinach. It came out with rocket. There was no feta on the salad and the quinoa was s sprinkle on the rocket. Not happy. French onion soup was good and the steak was cooked to order

Nestled at the southern end of King Street, The Union Hotel stands out as a vibrant hub for craft beer enthusiasts and food lovers alike. This charming French-style pub bistro boasts warm wooden decor and an inviting courtyard, making it the perfect spot to unwind. With 22 taps featuring a rotating selection of unique brews and an impressive array of gins primarily from Australian distillers, there's always something new to try.
We recently held our engagement party at The Union Hotel and couldn’t be happier with the experience. The team was incredibly flexible, helpful, and proactive in making sure everything went smoothly from start to finish. All our guests raved about the beautiful space and delicious food. A special thank you to Poppy for her outstanding organisation and attention to detail, she made the whole process effortless. Highly recommend!

The new owners are slowly taking away all things that were great about this pub. Wifi for kids…gone. Great value for portion size…gone. Famous chips…gone. Awesome bbq sauce…gone. Here was my dinner tonight. Sorry guys, this is text book how to destroy a business. Do better.

Had it been to the union Hotel for 40 years. Stating the obvious things have changed, And that for the better. Love the decor. Staff are very friendly. Both are upstairs and downstairs areas to eat. Do you love pubs that have photographs/images on the wall. Great time The background music wasn’t too loud, making conversation easy.

Definitely my last time at The Union Hotel. I really wanted to like this place, but from the moment I sat down, I had doubts. The water bottles on the table were dirty, and the water inside looked cloudy—more like something from a dam than drinking water. It made me question how clean everything else was. I ordered the Atlantic salmon for $36. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for days. Dry, lifeless, and definitely not fresh. The salad that came with it was overcooked and bland. Not worth the price at all. Then came the pizza. Honestly, I have no idea what kind of dough they used—it tasted like bulgur or something similar. The cheese was clearly cheap, the flavor was off, and it was overall just awful. I forced myself to eat it since I had already paid, but it was a real struggle. If I ever return to The Union Hotel, it will only be for a drink—not for food. Disappointing, overpriced, and honestly a bit concernin

It's a great place for a night out with friends, and I would definitely return for the lamb shank. This is my fifth time here, and I'm happy with the food.
W W — Google review
Been coming here for a years and unfortunately the new owners have really made some disappointing decisions with the menu. I got one of the two for one deals (2 burgers) and both the taste of the burger and portion size have really gone down hill. I totally get if the 2 for 1 is an unsustainable offer and not profitable. It's (was) a great deal. But if a customer orders 2 for 1, that's what they expect. Don't keep it going and serve your patrons kid meals and think they won't notice... It sends a poor message and makes your customers feel duped. Either raise your prices and continue to make it sustainable and profitable or scrap the special all together. I would happily pay more to support locals. Might still come here to watch the footy and have a beer but won't be ordering the food again.

The Dry Dock in Balmain has recently undergone a comprehensive renovation, reestablishing itself as a prominent waterfront establishment. The venue offers diverse experiences, including a classic public bar, a cozy lounge bar with a wood-burning fireplace, and an elegant dining room. While some patrons have expressed concerns about service during busy times, others have praised the venue's transformation and its high-quality cuisine.
A great gastropub with delicious food and a lovely setting. The luxe set menu was amazing, I thought the pasta dishes were the highlight. The crab pasta was so flavourful and the pasta perfectly al dente. I think the leek dish could’ve had more seasoning. Our rib eye was juicy and cooked well, same with the fish dish. Overall, it was a nice place to come for a birthday celebration, I would come back!

What a delight to try this fabulous restaurant. Service and food was 5/5 and a real treat. Cocktails were great also. Our waiter Fred was knowledgeable and passionate about the food and service and looked after us so well. The whole experience was perfect. Can’t wait to return.

It’s a slick operation at the Dry Dock Pub, in the U.K. we would describe this as a high end Gastro pub. Service was great, wine list more on par with a fine dining restaurant. We would have liked to have been offered a choice of accompaniments for some of the dishes. For me tartare sauce just doesn’t go with seafood especially things like bugs, prawns lobster, fried fish yes, but it’s way too creamy & acidic for the delicate flavour of Balmain bug meat. Some sort of dip was required but not a mayo based one, perhaps a light caper, butter & chive sauce or something Asian. The skin on the NZ market fish was way too salty, spoiling the taste of the fish, an of the sea saltiness would have been much better. The lamb dish was perfect, the pork terrine absolutely yummy although again the mostly beige pickles were way too vinegary, a lighter sweeter pickling liquid might have helped. Although for me a tart fruit/sour plum jam/chutney would have better complemented and elevated the terrine.

Finally, the true old-school gastro-pub is back! The Dry Dock in Balmain nails it, polished vibe, stunningly designed venue with four separate but seamless areas, and a classic menu done brilliantly with top produce. The place was absolutely pumping on our visit, yet the service stayed calm and on point throughout. There was something for everyone and every dish a hit. Honestly, every suburb needs a Dry Dock. We dined in the Dining Room and are looking forward to trying the other three areas. It is the best pub experience in Sydney right now! Lucky Balmain!

A great spot for modern European cuisine and French-style grilling. The concept is unique — combining elegant European dishes with the warmth of a grill experience that traces back to France. Both the service and the food were excellent. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a stylish yet cozy dining experience.

Thanks to all the team working yesterday lunch time/afternoon at the Dry Dock. The service, food and drinks were absolutely fantastic. This place isn’t cheap but it is a masterclass in hospitality. The bar staff, waiting staff and restaurant manager were all so welcoming and knowledgeable. The food is sublime and the wine list is incredible. Only criticism would be the noise level in the dining room. Have you considered any soft furnishings to try and reduce that? Thankfully now our new local! We’ll be back.

It's a great place to have a drink or get a bite. The pizza is fantastic. Fish and chips as well as other choices are good. Cocktails and beers are 👍. Of course the atmosphere is fantastic next to the water. Service especially outside tables could be a little better. Overall, love the place.

Came for lunch on a Sunday. Place was about 70% full. Ordered via QR code, drinks came out really quickly. We ordered a dozen oysters kilpatrick, give these a miss, it tasted like bacon but looked like mince and smothered in bbq sauce, really disappointing. The rest of the food was better, great size servings of calamari, fish & chips, chicken salad and pizza. We shared our food so not bothered that they came out staggered. Staff are lovely, great view from most tables.

If you bring a cake for a birthday they charge $3 per plate to serve. They don't know how to cut cake so at least learn that before charging a fee. The sweet potato fries and pizzas were good, salads not so much. Staff were nice / embarrassed to say it costs $3 per plate. Nice views.

First time at Felons Brewing. Very happy we decided to stop. Fantastic spot on the water. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. We had pizza and sweet potato fries. These were really good. Drinks was the Margarita and the local beer. Very good with a good variety.

Great location and fantastic ambience. It was a cold and rainy night when we attended, but I could imagine this place being extremely popular on a nice summers day. We were fortunate to experience some live music. The paddle of various brews was delicious and I personally loved the Galaxy Haze. The food was the only thing that let us down. We thoroughly enjoyed the Half Shell Scallops and the Fresh Maloolaba Prawns but we were let down with the Gambero Pizza - given the delicious prawns we had with our starter, we could tell the pizza had scrappy tiny little frozen prawns on it. We tend to enjoy that pizza at many other venues and this one was at the bottom of the list for our faves. This doesn't take away from how great the venue was and how fantastic the staff were with their service but would advise against ordering this particular pizza.

This bar is massive, plenty of seating with great views all around. Exceptionally clean. I am a GenXr that loves technology, so love the ability to order at the table using my phone. However, love being able to actually talk to the bartender too, because when you are drinking real beer (Imperial Stout in our case) you need to be able to at least know who is pouring your pint. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Good selection of beers of all variety and food is quick and good. Highly recommend as a great stop when you get off the Manly Ferry to sit down, have a pint, and map our your manly visit.

Sunday lunch, porchetta was fantastic. As was the steak frites. Service is a little patchy, but will let them off as it’s a large venue with a big menu - and staff are friendly. Live music was excellent too! Not cheap, but the quality of produce is evident, you get what you pay for. Love the work the Felons team are doing at Manly Wharf.

Great location, lovely to sit outside in the sun even on a winters day. Guy at the bar was very friendly, which was nice. QR codes outside didn’t work. The price was a bit of a shock, quite expensive at $12.50 for a schooner, more expensive than central London prices! Would’ve been nice to have a happy hour.

We live right around the corner and came in for the first time on Thursday evening, which happens to be their $20 steak and fries special. My boyfriend and I each ordered a beer and that special and sat at a table near the front, which actually had a DJ playing some lively tunes. The front section was also pretty packed and had bar stools and tables whereas the back of the bar has a couple booths that are quieter, as well as outside seating, so it does feel like there’s a bit of everything for everyone ambiance wise. Enjoyed the steak and the amount of fries we got with it. Totally worth $20.

We came here for the $10 burger special on a Wednesday night. The pub was very busy and understandably so. We ordered the beef burger and it was very good. The patty was juicy. I really liked the addition of some slices of raw, red onion and thought it gave the burger a nice 'bite'. The fries were great, too, and the serving size was very good. We had really warm, friendly, and helpful service from the bar when ordering our burgers. Unfortunately, our server was a different story, and this is my reason for giving the venue 3 stars. The woman who brought us our food was extremely rude. She was way beyond disrespectful. She was condescending and belittling. No one should be made to feel like that, and no one should feel good about treating others that way. Such a shame otherwise.

Had the whole upper deck booked for all-too-easy group identification with spillovers into the main bar as well as funky DJs playing in the early evening - be interesting to see the upcoming renovations so definitely good to bask in the vibes of its final days!

⭐☆☆☆☆ We recently stayed at Harry’s Hotel and were greatly disappointed. The room was very small and overpriced — nearly $800 CAD per night — with nothing remarkable to justify the cost. To make matters worse, the elevator wasn’t working, and my 80-year-old mother had to walk up several flights of stairs. We also had to pass through the hotel’s restaurant each time we went to our room, which was quite uncomfortable, especially with diners watching as we carried our luggage through. Another major inconvenience is that taxis don’t access the hotel due to its proximity to the Trevi Fountain, forcing us to walk with our suitcases over cobblestone streets — not ideal at all. The staff did nothing to compensate or acknowledge the inconveniences we faced. For the price and the overall experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. There are many better options nearby that offer genuine hospitality and accessibility.

The food here is wonderful! This is a great local bar, great for sports and decent beers. The chicken is gluten free and delightful. The burgers are outstanding, cooked and seasoned well, the bun holds it all together and at a decent price point also. Very generous portion of lightly crispy fries also.

I enjoyed my visit to White Cockatoo. I came on a Friday night and the pub was very busy. I liked the atmosphere and the set up of tables and benches. Despite the number of people, it was very clean, well kept and organised. The food was good too. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken. It was well cooked. The meat was succulent with a nice crsip coating. I had it with chips and salad. All elements ate well together. My meal and that of my friends were a good size.

I moved back to Petersham and this pub was a decent factor in my choice. I already missed it and was then shocked with the pleasant realisation that there is now a beautiful cockatoo called Georgie that recides here and is often out saying hello (literally) especially during less busy times The staff are all great , particularly the manager who is always happy to come and say hello and have a chat when he finds a minute. The ambience is great and hosts a variety in atmosphere If I had to find one complaint, due to the pubs deserved popularity, if you go in times like a Saturday night, naturally it’s usually busy so food has taken a little longer a few times , nothing too bad though. Overall this is my favourite pub and for good reason

September: menu changing again, quality of ingredients are lacking and the flavour isn’t there. The gravy is like water, the steak was dry and rubbery despite being medium rare. The chicken burger has changed the cheese, seasoning and sauce it seems which is a shame. Why change things when they were already good? Unfortunately the quality here has gone down the bin over the last 2 years. Probably won’t return. Also why put up the same poster of the specials 5 times next to each other? Early 2025: Menu has changed again and they have taken off my favourite lasagne dish. Sad! Came here for dinner the other night, got the fried chicken burger which was amazing like always. We got the schnitzel which was TINY, absolutely shocked at how small the portions have become for it.. I feel like they have changed the fries now. And the sticky date pudding was nice but I also feel like it’s changed. It’s now very dense (not everything needs Biscoff biscuits…)

Pros: 1. Food was nice, I had the chicken parmi and it was a good size portion. Cheese was melted nicely on top and the sauce wasn't too overpowering. 2. Prices for a Saturday night were spectacular. Two for 1 with chicken parmi, schnitty, cheese burgers on the menu. Very affordable. Cons: 1. Very cramped upstairs, small space, torn up seats, needs some work done. 2. Food took some time to come out but given it was a Saturday night and the joint was packed, not too shabby.

Clean and well-kept, but portions for daily specials are pretty small (tastes alright though)… drinks are on the pricey side for a pub so probably not the best value for money in that part of town.

I picked this pub for a work lunch for a group of 20. What a mistake! Not one of us liked their food. My mushroom risotto was lukewarm and had no flavour, others said their burgers were cold, the steak meal was nothing special for the price, the chips were plain. The menu was just typical pub grub, zero creativity, zero imagination as is common with a lot of pubs which is OK as long as they can nail these really simple dishes. This place could not. The biggest bummer was just 2 minutes down the road is Macchiato, a proper restaurant with chefs who know how to put together quality food that a person can actually enjoy!

During our stay in Sydney for the British and Irish Lions event, we had the wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our Welsh niece, her husband, and their children after not seeing them for three years. Ari, you truly made our evening special! Your playful banter and great sense of humor were delightful, and we really appreciated you providing the kids with pens—thanks to that, we managed to avoid any chaos! It was a lovely touch that you allowed us to bring back ice creams for them, and the addition of free crisps and lollies really topped off the night. Thank you for such a memorable gathering!

Great food and friendly service team. Food would have been a 5 except for oysters still having the membrane attached. Just made it so much harder to eat and ruined their texture by the time we not very expertly tried to remove them from shell. Appreciate the intention but Merivale understand that folks want fresh tasty oysters that slide off easily - depending on the oyster when the membrane is attached it's not always easy to remove and eat without ruining the oyster.

Had not been here since the takeover. Started with Oysters so fresh you could taste the sea. The Mulloway fish and Bouillabaisse Broth, was cooked beautifully. Marble 9 Steak (cooked just right) and skinny fries, have to say one the best Steaks on the Northern Beaches. Finished off with the dependable Affogato Bottom line Terrific setting, Gorgeous good, friendly service. $560 for 4.

Got the spicy fried chicken burger w/ chips. $29 or $34 for extra chicken.. you would think it would be like any other piece of fried chicken on a burger so I opted for just one. However I was sorely disappointed as I cut my burger in half to then have to search for the thinnest chicken patty I’ve ever seen.. Stick to the pizzas!! and thank god it was happy hour!

Bought a signature Rib Eye 600grm steak. $125.00 The quality of this steak was divine. Cooked exactly how I wanted served with Rocket Salad and Shoe String Fries in Jus. Worth every cent. Thankyou for a wonderful lunch, sensational views of the beach. Chairs a little too hard to spend countless hours on but hey who cares.

Very ordinary experience. I had wanted to try The Collaroy for quite a while but my experience was very disappointing. The decor which obviously tries for ‘shabby chic’ is just shabby and looks like the forgotten outpost or poor relation of the Hemmes stable of great eating establishments. Service was very ordinary as were the food offerings. Any pub would be a better choice.

The standard complaint: the food was good but overpriced. The reason I'm writing this review: the cockroaches!! I was trying to enjoy my meal when a cockroach appeared half way up the wall about 30cm from my plate. Throughout the night I saw at least 5 cockroaches running around on the floor around the table I was seated at (on the upper floor). Yuck.

Nestled in the inner west, Forest Lodge Hotel may seem unassuming from the outside, but it's a hidden gem for craft beer enthusiasts and lovers of hearty pub food. The hotel has a vintage charm with an array of old-school memorabilia and offers a diverse selection of independent beers, including options from Murray's and Feral Brewing. It's popular among students, tradies, and craft beer aficionados alike. Additionally, the hotel offers decent dining options.
The Flodge has become like a second home to me; not because I've become an alcoholic, luckily, but because of its warm atmosphere, genuine and welcoming staff and incredible food. When biting into their chicken burger, I was brought back to my troubled youth in Italy. After a hard day, my mother would make burgers, always with a spicy sauce to burn away the troubles from the day. As my mouth erupted into flame, it was like I was there, home again, and as I cried the staff were there to ask how I was and order me another beer. Now, I'm off to seek a different life. On advice from some of my dear friends in the Flodge, I have decided to follow my dreams and open a chicken burger restaurant in my home town in Italy. But I will always think fondly of my time here at the Flodge. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Super friendly & welcoming staff in a lively local pub. I highly recommend the outdoor courtyard. Food was good and it was really nice to see $10 wines and beers still exist 😄

A nice local pub. Chicken parmy was delicious! The red sauce was perfection. I asked for vegetables instead of chips. I only wish there was more chips and vegetables, you can see it didn't even fill the plate. The salt and pepper calamari was very nice also. Nice drink selection.

Lovely pub with delicious food and a decent range of beer (a good mix of old familiars and more crafty tipples). Pints are available if price by volume matters to you. Food specials every day and, if your request for extra bibs and bobs isn't excessive, able to be adjusted to suit almost any palate. The staff range from old, experienced hands (Hi Mick!) to a troupe of students. All are friendly and welcoming and do their best to make you feel welcome. I'll be back.

From the moment we walked in, the service and atmosphere were exceptional. Ashley, the manager, deserves special mention for the way she leads and connects with both her team and guests. She was attentive, hands-on, and ensured that everything in the restaurant ran seamlessly. It’s rare to see a manager so genuinely engaged and proactive in creating a positive dining experience. When we asked to move to a high table and requested chairs with backrests due to my daughter’s back condition, Ashley was immediately understanding and accommodating — her empathy and professionalism really stood out. The food was delicious, the service was consistent and the overall vibe was warm and inviting. A big shoutout to Yosher behind the bar for his excellent service and friendly energy — he complemented the great experience perfectly. It’s clear that this place values both quality and hospitality. See you soon. Aby (The Wyz Fam)

This place is massive. So many options for seating, indoor and outdoor. The atmosphere is very laid back, it seems like the type of place you'd randomly stumble upon and sit in to chat with friends over drinks and some light food. The service during Covid allows you to order online on your phone and it will send the order to the kitchen, which is really neat. The service is laid back but helpful and very friendly, it suits the chill vibe. The food itself is alright, I liked the wings the most. It was a little sweet in the way that American BBQ sauce is sweet, but it wasn't bad at all. To enter and exit the establishment, there is a set of stairs that need to be climbed. As far as I know, I didn't see any ramps, so it may be challenging for those with walking difficulties and whatnot. I'll probably come back to try some of the other menu items and update the review when I'm in the area.

Friendly staff. Value for money $10 pizza on the weekend plus specials on each day. Fusion (Thai Aussie) pub food. Vegan options available. Delicious. Seating comfy with some board games available for kids. There are a few steps in both the entrances so not wheelchair or pram friendly. Been here a few times this year already. Booking essential. Food never disappoints.

The Royal Albert Hotel in Surry Hills is a charming pub with a vintage atmosphere that has become a hub for Sydney's craft beer scene. The pub offers an array of craft beers, including selections from Riverside Brewing Company and Illawarra Brewers. In addition to its impressive drink selection, the hotel also serves a fusion of Australian and Asian cuisine, such as parmigiana, duck wrap, and dumplings. Visitors have praised the delicious food and exceptional service at this cozy establishment.

Came for dinner. Started with $1 wings. The smoked chicken sounded like a great option, one had half a chicken with generous sides, I had the chicken roll, the chicken was tender and the gravy was delicious as were the chips, but thought it was a bit pricey for $25 though. One friend ordered a steak with an extra side of brocollini, he was disappointed that he got 4 strands for $8.50. Others also ordered steak which they wanted medium rare, but the steaks were thin that they were medium to well done. The staff are friendly, it was a busy night and it wasn't a long wait for the food. The best part is that it's dog friendly.

Nice quaint corner British style pub. Went for the food based on reviews and menu but was pretty disappointed. Menu at pub was different to what was online/on the QR code ordering Zero chance those ribs have gone anywhere near a smoker so bit risky putting it in the ‘smoker’ section of the menu. Chips were awesome though, only saving grace Plenty of other great pubs in the area I’d go to before this one again

The Mog Champ sends his regards. Enjoyed a nice Melbourne Cup here lunch recently and won a little bit of betting as well which was fun and nice for the day! For food, I ordered a half-chook with potato salad. It was delicious despite how they cooked it differently there! The pub is great in general and we sat at the back with a large TV to watch the horse races on, the service was quick and friendly and it's a fine atmosphere in general. Thanks for the time Royal Albert! Mogliest Regards, Your Mog Champ

Pub
Nestled within the iconic Nag's Head Hotel in Glebe, Winstons is a casual English-style pub that has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Known as Sydney's first true gastropub, it offers an inviting atmosphere where you can catch your favorite sports on TV while enjoying weekly events. The bistro serves up hearty mains with a modern twist, including standout dishes like Beef Wellington and Scotch Eggs, all crafted from premium local ingredients by acclaimed chef Nelly Robinson.
Loved dinner at Winston’s @ the Nags head, went early for a drink at the main bar where the bar tender was knowledgeable and helpful when choosing a beer to suit a particular taste. Dinner at Winston’s was delicious we enjoyed all the dishes in the degustation, our favourites were the crab toast and the steak and chips it’ll the dishes were delicious creative and a play on English classics chef Steve was amazing. Great wine list! The food was exceptional and I thought a great price, although our price per person was high this was attributed to the wine as the menu is a set price of $85. The wine list has a good range of prices as well. Would definitely go back.

Went to Nag's Head with other friends who also have dogs, and we all liked it! It's super dog-friendly, which is a big plus. The new menu is awesome—I had the scotch eggs with a nice spicy kick that I really enjoyed. The mussels were good, and the bread was super fresh —crispy on the outside and soft inside! The fish pie was also yummy. Will definitely go back and try more!
Shirley H — Google review
My boyfriend and I visited The Nags Head on Sunday at 5PM for a roast dinner, and unfortunately it was quite disappointing. While the lamb, chicken, and roast potatoes were lovely, the carrots and broccoli were rock hard, and courgette was oddly included, not something you’d expect on a traditional English roast. The chicken also had pesto on it, which didn’t really make sense. The gravy portion was tiny, and even after asking for more (which I was happy to pay for), it was just another small pot, so I didn’t bother asking again. We then ordered espresso martinis, but were told the coffee machine was off and they could only serve premixed ones, which at $44 were really poor quality and had to be sent back, something I hate doing. That said, the staff were all really lovely and seemed very busy, which we appreciated, it’s just a shame the food and drinks didn’t match the service.

Had a lovely time at Nag's Head Hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and thoughtfully brought our dog Amy a bowl of water without us having to ask. The cocktails were excellent and the food was delicious, particularly Nelly's Fish Pie which was really impressive. The whole team made us feel very welcome and Amy was treated wonderfully too. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and quality of both the drinks and food. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for good food and drinks in a dog-friendly environment.

The small plate starter dishes are delicious and incorporate a bit of fun in how they reflect traditional British pub food and how they are presented. The ‘steak’ was a big letdown for the restaurant- it was not a juicy pice of steak, but instead a piece of slow cooked meat dish that was too salty to eat. We very much hope that this new restaurant becomes a popular local and will return in the future in the hope that our negative meat experience was a one off event.
Angela D — Google review
Absolutely loved my birthday dinner at Winstons at the Nags Head. As well as being delicious, the degustation was so playful - like the melt-in-your-mouth pasty being served in a brown paper bag. I couldn’t decide which dish was my favourite. The pea and ham was so flavourful and the short rib so tender. It was great value for so much food (and such fantastic service).

Thursday lunch visit...we were warmly greeted at the door (arrived upon opening). Perused the menu while we settled at our chosen table - order at the bar. We tried salt & pepper chips (served with curry sauce), scotch eggs, fish pie & roast chicken. Skin-on chips - if these are the only thing you get, these are excellent chips (with or without curry sauce). Scotch eggs - crispy exterior of thin crumbed mince layer, soft eggs. Fish pie - a lot of mash potato topping... fish was a bit of hide & seek... expected some sauce as base of filling but the experience is likened to a big bowl of mash with some bits of fish, bacon & leek) - disappointing. 'Half chicken' being roast chicken with slaw & gravy - absolute highlight of our mains - tender moist, herby flavoured chicken & well-seasoned skin. Slaw was dressed in a vinegarette-type dressing rather than mayonnaise/creamy dressing - which provided a lovely tangy crunchy accompaniment to the chicken. The only downside was that it could have been served with a little bit more slaw. Thanks Steve for your warm welcome.
Carol Y — Google review
Read about this somewhere recently and wanted to try. The two burgers we ordered (beef and mushroom) were fantastic! The sauce in the beef burger was delicious. The mushroom wasn’t watery so bun wasn’t soggy and the slaw that went with the mushroom was tangy and refreshing. Perfect balance. The buns were soft but again not soggy and didn’t fall apart. Chips were delicious. Hot slightly crisp on the outside, skin on and not greasy. Services from anyone we had contact with was very friendly. Can’t wait to return to try other items! Second visit also very good. This time had the fish and chips. Fish was fresh and batter was light and crisp. Again chips were hot and good and not greasy. The ploughman lunch was generous and each component on the board was enjoyable.

Was ready to tear this place a new one due to the prices of the food, but it's great quality. Average spend would be around $200 for 4 people with drinks or so, depending what you get, give or take $20-40 if you get a starter and desert, which we didn't. Just 5 dishes and drinks

Cocktail bar
The Baxter Inn is a sophisticated bar that pays homage to old whiskey bars, boasting an extensive selection of top-shelf whiskies and classic cocktails. The bar features over 800 spirits, described as a collection that would impress any enthusiast. Its nostalgic ambiance includes flickering candles, emerald green booths, and dark wooden fixtures surrounding the seemingly endless wooden bar. This popular establishment is considered one of the best cocktail bars in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.
Absolutely loved this hidden gem! The moment I stepped in, I was blown away by the wall full of whisky bottles and the vintage wooden bar setup – cozy, stylish, and full of character. I tried four cocktails and every single one was a surprise in the best way possible: 1. Apple Whisky ($14) – Light, fruity, and super easy to drink. Perfect for beginners and a popular choice on Chinese social media. 2. Muay Thai ($26) – Off-menu hidden cocktail. Strong, unique, and full of personality! 3. Scofflaw ($24) – On the sweeter side, ideal if you enjoy dessert-like drinks. 4. Silk Road ($28) – My personal favourite. Woody, smoky, and rich. It reminded me of an upgraded Old Fashioned – the deeper you sip, the more addicted you get

One of the best bars in Sydney! Highly recommend visiting this if you wanna grab a a very good cocktail and enjoy this one in an underground bar which feels very secretive. One point to improve is the air ventilation, since it can be a bit smelly in some corners of the bar.

Hidden bar with nice vibe. Go through a dark alley with no instructive sign you will see a guardian standing at a door towards a basement with no name and logo. The inside is quite nice. Try their best sellers like fruit whiskey. I also ordered red wine from local, not disappointed at all. Go late might need to wait abit.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is really nice, and even though it was a Sunday evening and quite crowded, we were still able to walk in and get a table after about a 15-minute wait. The service was fine, nothing too remarkable but nothing bad either. The drinks were quite good and definitely added to the overall experience. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a relaxed place to hang out. Popular bar should visit 🍸

If you’re looking for a truly special spot, this hidden bar is a must-visit. The cocktail menu is impressively diverse, offering everything from creative signatures to perfectly crafted classics. Each drink is beautifully presented and thoughtfully balanced in flavor. The atmosphere inside is intimate and inviting — low lighting, cozy seating, and music that sets just the right mood without overpowering conversation. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, whether you’re out with friends or just enjoying a quiet night. Highly recommended for cocktail lovers and anyone who appreciates a great hidden gem.
