Sokyo is a sought-after Japanese restaurant located in the heart of The Star in Sydney. An unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. This Japanese restaurant delivers five-star quality in every aspect — from the exquisite presentation to the refined, authentic flavors in every dish. Each plate is like a work of art, beautifully arranged with incredible attention to detail. The ambiance is elegant yet comfortable, striking the perfect balance between sophistication and warmth. Whether you’re seated at the counter or a private table, the atmosphere enhances every bite. The service is beyond excellent — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely hospitable. The staff makes you feel truly valued from the moment you walk in. If you’re searching for top-tier Japanese cuisine with impeccable service and ambiance, this place is an absolute must-try.

Went there for lunch, menu was very limited (only 2 types of sushi). Only the smallest sushi roll at splurge prices with very ordinary qylualiy and taste, it did not even serve the eye and I was very disappointed when it landed on our table. Overall experience was very disappointing with a big bill. Had to spend $130 for one appetizer, 2 beers and two small rolls. Will never go back.
Nami T — Google review
Truly magical Japanese food experience. Staff were brilliant and exceptionally accommodating. Atmosphere in the restaurant was intimate, cozy and quiet. It's a large restaurant but the acoustics around us to have quiet conversations without being disturbed. The food and wine was sensational. I highly recommend this restaurant for special intimate occasions.

5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sokyo never disappoints! The atmosphere is absolutely amazing—modern, stylish, and vibrant. The service is always top-notch, and the food is out of this world. Every dish is a masterpiece, packed with flavour and beautifully presented. From the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to the perfectly grilled wagyu, and the creative dishes—each bite is a celebration of Japanese fusion done right. The balance of textures and flavours shows true culinary artistry. Special shoutout to Quynh , who always goes above and beyond to make our dining experience unforgettable. Her warmth, and genuine care truly set Sokyo apart. It’s our go-to place and easily the best dining spot in Sydney. Highly recommend!
Claudia T — Google review
the food was outstanding, especially the cuttlefish and sweet potato tempura, plus the lamb was cooked to perfection. Salmon and sushi were yum too. The service was just just great with staff who were friendly and helpfull. A bit on the pricey side but worth going back to
Francis G — Google review
I called in at Sokyo for dinner with my partner and her mother (who have been several times and swear by the place!). The team are welcoming and attentive, with a superb wine menu and a wonderful variety of options. Everything we ordered was utterly delicious (the tempura prawns were better than many I’ve had in many high-end places in Japan), and I’ll happily be returning again!
Simon L — Google review
My oh my… it’s been almost a week and I’m still craving their crispy rice sushi. Absolutely amazing food. The wagyu was tender and melted in your mouth with each piece. The sushi’s were fresh and tasty. The crispy rice sushi… wow. The vibe was beautiful, the service was decent and overall it is a wonderful experience. Sure, it’s super expensive - but tbh I do see why. Loved it!
S — Google review
Some aspects of the meal were excellent, but overall, the food quality was inconsistent. A few dishes were beautifully prepared, while others fell short—mostly due to overpowering sauces. Here’s a more detailed breakdown: • Tempura shrimp was fried to perfection, light and crisp, but the accompanying spicy mayo tasted more like a heavy paprika sauce and dominated the delicate shrimp. • Green salad was fresh and generously portioned, but drenched in a sesame-soy dressing that overwhelmed the flavors. • Soft shell roll was very good and well balanced. • Toothfish 51 (Chilean sea bass) was cooked perfectly—tender and flaky—but unfortunately buried under a sauce that was far too sweet for our taste. • The biggest letdown was the Kobe steak. It was extremely chewy and difficult to eat. I pointed this out to the server, even gesturing to the uneaten pieces left on the plate, but received no response or offer to address it. On a positive note, the service was quick and generally pleasant. However, the lack of acknowledgment when feedback was given was disappointing. If you visit, I’d recommend steering clear of the meat dishes. As for pricing, I’m not entirely sure how it stacks up, as I haven’t quite wrapped my head around the exchange rate yet. Hope this helps!

A truly top-tier Japanese experience in Sydney. Expensive, yes—but absolutely worth it for the highest quality Japanese food we've had in Sydney. The service was excellent, the atmosphere cosy and inviting, and the food was simply outstanding. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts—they were a surprising standout! We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back.

Japanese French Fusion style and delicious .. whatever we ordered were so good! So happy with our choices .. We picked the never heard menu .. and turned up to be so great Also the dessert, the dragon egg as well as the pear pie were also our fave Plan to go back there in the next few days, before i leave to fly back home to Indonesia The ambiance of the restaurant was a bit too dark for me ... but actually once we sat down on our table, the lighting was good for reading the menu seeing the food as well as to take the food's pictures .. well done on the interior lighting
Ayda S — Google review
Saké Restaurant & Bar delivered an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was intimate and romantic—perfect for a special night out. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented, setting a high bar for the rest of the meal. For mains, we had the beef tenderloin and lobster—both were cooked to perfection, rich, buttery, and packed with flavour. Service was truly impeccable—friendly, attentive, and professional without being intrusive. Every staff member made us feel well taken care of. Highly recommend for anyone looking for elevated Japanese dining in a stunning setting. Would absolutely return.

We visited this restaurant after seeing all the great reviews. The food was very good. If you like raw seafood and the like you would love what’s on the menu. We ordered the chefs tasting menu for a birthday and it was tasty! We were not a huge fan of the lemon meringue shard dessert but everything else was a hit. My personal favourite was the miso toothfish! Our Wagyu strip loin dish was a bit inconsistent, one was more chewy in texture than the other. Service was okay but nothing that stands out, it fell a bit short considering this is considered a fine dining restaurant. Staff seemed to be very busy today. Atmosphere was okay. We sat at the table with the view of the kitchen. It is very busy here with lots of people walking past and orders being called. The ambience could have been better. Overall not a bad experience! Would recommend trying at least once!
Siobhan Z — Google review
Love the food and the atmosphere here — such a nice spot to celebrate. Most of the dishes were so good and full of flavour. However, the regular sushi rolls and karaage chicken weren’t really to my taste, but everything else was excellent!
Tahnee N — Google review
This year for my birthday, my boyfriend surprised me with a visit to Saké Restaurant — and wow, it definitely didn’t disappoint! From the beautiful ambience to the attentive service, everything felt like a trip back to Japan, but with a modern twist that gives Saké its own unique charm. The kingfish and oysters were definite highlights for my boyfriend and he couldn’t stop raving about their freshness and quality. For me, nothing beats the kingfish sushi. I honestly couldn’t get enough! And for dessert, I went with the Dragon Egg. Beautifully presented, rich, creamy, and bursting with flavour, it’s the kind of dessert you can only experience at Saké. I’d go back just for that alone! To top it all off, the team surprised me with a little birthday cake and candle, without me even asking. It’s such a thoughtful touch that made the night even more special. We were served by Martina, who was absolutely lovely. Her service was exceptional from start to finish. A truly memorable dining experience — perfect for special occasions or simply treating yourself to something amazing.
Julienne — Google review
Amazing experience! Highly recommend sashimi (melts in your mouth), oysters, popcorn prawns and the house salad made our night! Everything was incredibly fresh and high quality. Honestly reckon it’s better than Nobu! Rated 4 stars for food as the sushi roll was a let down.
Sharon C — Google review
It’s been a long time since I last visited the old Four Seasons restaurant, and I was surprised to find out that The Rock Sake has moved to a new location, luckily just across the street. The new venue has a completely different vibe — much more modern, with only a small touch of Japanese elements left. It seems like the ownership has changed, and the menu is now very different, catering more to Western tastes. The direction is clearly high-end dining with premium pricing. The food overall was decent but not particularly memorable. The sashimi was fresh, the lobster dish was well prepared, and the steak was cooked properly. However, the fried shrimp dish felt completely disconnected from Japanese cuisine. Service from the staff was excellent — attentive and professional. The restaurant was clean and stylish, but the tables were quite close to each other, which made privacy feel a bit lacking. In short, it’s not that the place is bad, but there wasn’t anything that stood out enough for me to want to return unless I have a specific reason.

Fusion restaurant
Nobu is a renowned Japanese restaurant located in the Crown Sydney at Barangaroo. It is part of the globally acclaimed Nobu chain, with over 50 locations worldwide. The restaurant offers a unique culinary experience inspired by chef Nobu Matsuhisa's fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, known as 'Nobu style.'
Visited [Restaurant Name] and was absolutely blown away by the experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and elegantly designed with a perfect balance of modern and traditional Japanese elements. The menu features a wide selection of fresh, high-quality ingredients, and each dish was a true work of art. We tried their sashimi and other specialty dishes, and every bite was perfection. The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the flavors of each dish were balanced perfectly. The service was impeccable — the staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations on both food and drink pairings. Every detail, from the ambiance to the presentation of the dishes, was carefully considered, making it a truly memorable dining experience. It’s on the pricier side, but absolutely worth every penny for the quality, service, and overall experience.

This was my third time back at Nobu, and once again, it didn’t disappoint. We ordered the Sydney Seven Course and loved the variety. They regularly change the omakase, so it’s always a treat to see what’s on offer each time. The service was top tier, as expected from Nobu, and the atmosphere had a great vibe. Highly recommend if you’re after a refined dining experience with consistent quality.
Kristine D — Google review
We had dinner at Nobu Sydney and overall enjoyed the experience! I had expected something really fancy, but the atmosphere and presentation were a bit less impressive than anticipated. However, the food was tasty and the service was friendly. It was still a pleasant evening, and we’re glad we tried it.
A T — Google review
We had lunch here on a Saturday. It didn’t have the same vibe you may expect on a weekend evening, but it was nice and relaxed. The food is exquisite. The service was really good. It’s hard to go past Japanese cuisine. The flavors are just amazing. While the pricing is not cheap, you get what you pay for. We had lunch for 6 with cocktails and dessert. Total bill including tip was around $770. Well worth it for a 3 hour delightful meal.

We had a fantastic experience at Nobu Sydney. The Japanese dishes were delicious and beautifully presented, and the cocktails were excellent. Chelsie and Peter provided attentive, professional service that made the evening extra special. Highly recommend!

This may be my new favorite Nobu location! The space in the Crown Sydney is gorgeous with stunning views 😍 Very friendly staff and as expected, fantastic food and cocktails 😋 I am still dreaming of the Kohlrabi Dry Miso Salad with Scallops and the last Winter Truffles of the season 🤤 Refreshing and luxurious! 😋 Looking forward to visiting again!

We hit up Nobu Sydney for lunch and wow… so good! Food was on point, cocktails were 10/10, and dessert was the perfect ending. Definitely a vibe✨

Food is not bad, tastes quite fresh. Miso black cod was amazing, but for $50 quite steep for 2 bites. All other japanese dishes were quite average, but nicely presented. could find better somewhere else.

Masuya is a Japanese restaurant that offers a blend of slow food, tapas, and sushi in a contemporary setting adorned with artworks and flowers. The eatery embraces the local belief that food connects the soul to the body and others' souls. It welcomes patrons for various occasions, whether it's for solitary reflection, business celebrations, or sharing stories with family and friends.
Definitely a hidden gem in Sydney! Top quality sashimi, fresh and savory. We were surprised by their hospitality as well. All the waitstaff were welcoming and friendly. Our waiter Sean has the best vibes! First time we were happy to tip in Sydney :)
Sabrina — Google review
Popped in for lunch. Bento is their main choice at lunch. One of my favourite Japanese. Always top quality. This restaurant is downstair and doesn’t have any natural light but is relatively quiet even with a lot of people. The staff are all very respectful and polite. I got the salmon bento and my friend got the eel bento. Highly recommend the food.
Crankycicada — Google review
Had an amazing dinner here! Everything was fresh and beautifully presented — especially the sashimi and oysters. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sushi was so delicate and tasty. The dessert was a perfect finish to the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was really cozy. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for quality Japanese food in Australia!
-3- — Google review
I took my wife here on a date and the atmosphere was perfect here. The waitress for our table provided excellent service. The only disappointment was the food. The tempura batter was not as light as the one I had many years ago. The deep-fried soft-shell crab in the sushi roll was soggy, looked like it was not made to order, but was cooked much earlier. The wagyu steak katsu was tasty but the batter did not stick to the steak and has fallen apart already on arrival.
Brian L — Google review
Beautiful Japanese cuisine in Sydney CBD. Totally authentic and most of the staff are from Japan. Sean provides excellent service for us and we went back again. The tuna toro is stunning and it worth with the price. All waiters are friendly and nice!!
Marco — Google review
Reservation made for 4 thus no much wait. Reini and Sean were very friendly, helpful and attentive. Food was great, the sashimi was fresh and well explained by Sean.
Steven — Google review
One of the best authentic Japanese food that you can find in Sydney. The blue fin tuna was of the highest quality and melted in my mouth without much biting. The Aburi sushis were also well seasoned and cooked, with the right texture to feel the seafood. Their tempura set was extravagant, offering 3 shrimps, 1 fish, 1 oyster, and others. The deep fried oysters were very impressive. The Kingfish wings were very tasty and cooked to the right timing. Staff here were very friendly and attentive. Otowa, apparently the manager here, did a good job getting our orders and attending to our requests. We came on a Saturday night so it was quite crowded and could be a bit noisy but this is understandable.
Charlie C — Google review
Food was great and so fresh! Staff was very attentive and took care of us! It was for a friends 30th and they took care of all of us and recommended drinks. We ordered a lot more than the photo but it was too good I had to eat it before taking the photo - Definitely will be back!

Zushi Barangaroo is a Japanese restaurant located in Barangaroo and Surry Hills, offering a minimalist ambiance and a diverse menu of sushi and sashimi. The restaurant features wallet-friendly deals such as the $6 Sydney rock oysters, as well as an extravagant 20-course omakase menu curated by Chef Han.
The food was top notch! We ordered many dishes off the menu and none of them disappointed. Didn't take photos of all the food because after having a taste of the first few dishes, I couldn't bring myself to put the chopsticks down to snap a pic 😂 Great atmosphere and service. We were especially greatful for our waitress who was super helpful and understanding of our halal dietary requirements. Looking forward to going back soon.

Wow chefs here have quite a skill! All the dishes are prepared with detailed attention. The food is just perfectly cooked. Every bite sparks the joy in the mouth. The eggplant, the duck and the tooth fish are sensational. Definitely recommend to people who would love to have enjoyment while eating.

From the moment we arrived the service team were all over it. Having been in hospitality for 30 plus years it’s the best service I’ve seen for a long time. The quality of the food delivers & could not recommend it highly enough. Well done team Zushi.

Zushi in Barangaroo is a great spot for modern Japanese with a view. The waterfront setting is gorgeous and the vibe is stylish yet relaxed. The sushi and share plates are fresh and flavourful. Drinks are fun too, with plenty of sake and cocktails. Service is friendly and efficient. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but worth it for the location and quality. Ideal for a nice lunch or dinner catch-up.

An exceptional dining experience from start to finish! The ambiance was elegant yet inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed yet refined meal. The cocktails were crafted to perfection. The sashimi platter was fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with natural flavors. The fried karaage and prawn dishes were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired wonderfully with the sauces provided. Service was top-notch, ensuring we had everything we needed without feeling rushed. Every detail, from the plating to the flavors, was carefully curated, making this a truly memorable experience. If you’re looking for a sophisticated dining experience with exceptional food and drinks, this place is a must-visit! Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Zushi was a win. The sashimi was super fresh, the nigiri was spot on, and the corn ribs were such a standout, full of flavour and something a bit different. Great vibe and solid service too

Best experience! Being coeliac my options are very slim. Once I found out they had a gluten free menu I was so excited. The staff were so attentive, every time they came by they knew I was coeliac and assured me the meals were gluten free. The food was excellent I can't wait to come back!!
Alyssa J — Google review
We were a party of six and our food came out a plate at a time over the course of an hour. The waitstaff were friendly but not particularly attentive or helpful. Even when we asked why two people had their food before the drinks arrived and over an hour later we were still waiting for one main dish, there was no apology or explanation. The food was delicious and the flavours amazing. The experience wasn’t horrible and we were very impressed with the quality of the food, but it wasn’t what we expected from a restaurant of this calibre.

Makoto Sushi Bar, located in Liverpool St, Sydney CBD, offers a unique dining experience with its revolving sushi train and noodle dishes. The glass-walled restaurant features counter seats and tables, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Despite some online feedback about potential changes under new ownership, Makoto continues to attract diners with its lively vibe and jazz music. The Chatswood location has also garnered praise from locals for its authentic offerings.
An awesome experience. We attempted to dine at another Sushi restaurant but they were not very accommodating so we chose to look elsewhere and found this amazing restaurant. Fresh ingredients and so tasty. A really inviting space and very family friendly. Staff were so engaging and attentive. The serving sizes were also very generous. The Gunkan seared scallops were excellent and the cooked tuna was also amazing. Dine here for a great experience.

It’s a sushi restaurant which has a belt serving. As a tourist, here bring us the memories in Japan. However, since it’s in Australia, you can’t have high expectations on its jap food. The sushi rice is warm and they do not serve free green tea. Still, if you wanna get back some jap food, here maybe an option.

Second time came here and always looking for the plumpy scampi (my favorite). But this time I had a slight delay for 15-25 mins for a dish to come out. It was not a busy day or during lunch break, but might be some other problems I think. At first my orders were come in a timely manner but when I did my second / third order, the slight delay happened. Fortunately, I was in no rush. But always good to come back.

Nice sushi bar with plenty of options and great service. Good for a quick bite. Love their paradise prawn, scallop uni don, paradise scallop, scampi handroll.

Great tasting and very fresh. The sushi train experience is great with lots of options. Did realise that closing time was 9:30 on a Friday night we were seated at around 8ish the outside kitchen began cleaning up around 8:30, which meant the choices on the sushi train were no longer being replenished but you could still order from the kitchen inside. The only reason for the food getting 4 started rating was that I couldn't see any red meat options such as wages or beef.
John N — Google review
The OG of the sushi trains. Haven't been here in years. They still do the oyster omelette quite well.
Denise ( — Google review
Great sushi place, easy to get to by train. Only wished there were more variety, and the price can be pretty high. But then again sushis are so expensive in Australia. Nothing particularly bad about the atmosphere, just thought it could do with a little more comfort for the price.

Really delicious and fresh. The Uni Chawanmushi was what made me pick this place and it was really good. Only downside was I didn't think the premium tuna was that premium, but maybe I shouldn't compare tuna in Sydney to that of Japan. Still better quality and value than anything I can get in NZ so I was happy 😊

Authentic Japanese restaurant
Azuma is a sophisticated Japanese restaurant that offers both tasting menus and a la carte options in an elegant setting. Owned by Chef Kimitaka Azuma, the restaurant prides itself on providing innovative dining experiences while celebrating Japanese culture. The use of the freshest seasonal ingredients to create refined dishes is one of its highlights. Known for traditional kaiseki and omakase menus, Azuma has earned a loyal following since its establishment in the 90s.
A beautifully appointed modern but authentic style Japanese restaurant that I happened across while staying at the Sebel Hotel next door during the lead up to the Sydney Marathon. The staff were extremely friendly and polite which has been my usual experience in both Japan and Australia. I must admit when I ordered the grilled lamb cutlet for $28.00 I was expecting some sort of side with it. I ordered the agadashi (a favourite of mine) as an entree. Both dishes were superb in both presentation and taste but I was still hungry. I then ordered the tempura prawns and vegetables and again, just perfect🥰 I enjoyed a refreshing ‘Moho’ mocktail with my meal (no alcohol leading up to the marathon 😊). The meal was expensive but for lovers of fine food I thought it was worth it. I’d certainly return❣️🥢🍱🍲🍤

Been visiting Azuma over the years and came to celebrate my friends 50th at their new location on Phillip St. Staff were attentive and friendly, and the new layout was open and inviting. The 8 courses were well presented, and can clearly see the attention to detail on the small dishes. The journey also included the theme of the Japanese elemental colours and the flavours were well thought out. The fish were also cooked perfectly. The only minor things was the broth in the soup dishes were slightly salty and the zenzai red bean was a tad sweet for my preference. However the flavour profiles were there. Finished the meal with their world famous chiffon cake. If you want to experience a genuine Japanese cuisine in Sydney using some Australian ingredients, I do recommend you to try. Probably one of the best Japanese restaurant in Sydney

It was fabulous food and service. The sashimi is very fresh and marvellous taste. All food we ordered was top taste. The service was professional and at the same time comfort. We had fabulous time. It is one of the quality Japanese Restaurant in Sydney.

Azuma feels different from many Japanese restaurants in Sydney - run mostly by Japanese staff, it carries an authenticity and quiet elegance that is not at all touristy. Even the wall of fine wines adds to the understated beauty of the setting. The food was exceptional throughout. I particularly enjoyed the variety of seafood dishes, each prepared with delicacy and depth of flavour. The desserts were equally memorable - refined yet playful - and one, presented with a flickering light, delighted my niece during a family celebration. It was a thoughtful touch that made the evening feel special. Azuma balances refinement and warmth in both service and food. It has quickly become a place I would return to, and one I would recommend to anyone seeking true Japanese hospitality in Sydney.

Service here was impeccable. The servers were attentive to us and they would clean the table and replace our plates for every dish we finished. Water was refilled quite frequent too. We had edamame and lotus crips to start. I found the crisps a tad too salty. We had Wagyu tataki and it cake with lotus crips too. They were just as equally salty and I had to drink a lot of water. Though Wagyu tataki was flavorsome and nicely presented, I would have liked it better had the sauce not been overly salty. Agedashi tofu and eggplant was my favorite dish as it was soft and fresh, not to mention it was flavorful with the broth. It was the only dish I found not overwhelming. We had king prawns and vegetables tempura for sharing too and it was the best tempura I had in Sydney. They were fried to perfection and not overwhelmed with oil at all, not to mention they were very crispy and flavorsome. I enjoyed every bit of it with the sauce they provided. We got Wagyu sirloin steak mbs5+ with yuzu chilli dipping sauce and it was nicely presented. It was nicely done in medium rare and I enjoyed it with the sauce provided. It was well complemented with the veggie in it. Lastly, we had their limited time Mont Blanc daifuku dessert with matcha gelato to finish off. It was a tad disappointing as I didn’t like the texture of daifuku that much. It tasted like a frozen mochi. Though I loved the matcha gelato. All in all, I had a pleasant dining experience here. Thumbs up to the good food and good customer service.

I'm on a personal mission to find the best sushi and sashimi and have been fortunate to have struck gold with Azuma. I have now had lunch here two weeks in a row, first time by myself and second time bringing my partner after listening to me rave about Azuma during my first visit! Food is consistent and beyond exceptional, the sashimi and nigiri were so fresh and delicious it took us both right back to Japan. The food is prepared and presented with fine precision and skill, which is hard to come by in Sydney when it comes to Japanese food. There are lots of options in Sydney but I am after a very specific experience and Azuma ticked all the boxes for me. Food is obviously important but it's the collective experience with wait staff, chefs and restaurant space to elevate it from just being amazing food to a truly magical experience. Everyone there is genuinely friendly and warm, I had great chats with Mickey she's truly lovely! I feel so fortunate to have found a slice of Japan so close to home, I will be back again without a doubt!

WOW! If you are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine go no further than Azuma. We stayed next door in the Sebel on Phillip St, and were pleasantly surprised to have such a fine restaurant right next door. We dined three times at Azuma, and on each and every occasion we received 1st class service and food. If you are looking for a superb dining experience, then Azuma is the restaurant for you.

We had the tasting menu and it was very delicious. Highlight was the grilled glacier cod which melted in my mouth. Atmosphere is great, and cocktails were good. They also had mocktails which made the designated driver happy. Finally they had Zenzai (red bean soup with mochi and ice cream on the side) which I ordered in addition to the tasting menu was just the perfect way to finish a lovely meal off. Definitely coming back again to try other foods on the menu. September 2025 edit: Sadly did not see oshiruko on the menu. But food is still just as delicious. The toothfish and the steak were still the highlight for me. The new restaurant is well furnished and peaceful 🥰

Sushi Hotaru is a trendy sushi train restaurant located at The Galeries Victoria in Sydney. It offers a wide variety of freshly made sushi that can be selected from the conveyor belt or ordered through a tech-savvy touchscreen system. The stylish interiors exude a funky Tokyo vibe, adding to the dining experience. With affordable prices and high-quality dishes, Sushi Hotaru stands out for its exceptional value.
Cannot really fault it. Can order on tablet or off the train. Ordered the chicken karage for 17.00. Nice. Good serving. Other assorted sushi was very fresh. Salmon very nice and fresh. It's one of the better sushi trains in Sydney. Reasonably priced for Sydney too.

I went here for the first time today after being introduced by a friend. The food was delicious and the staff were all friendly. Draft beer was $6.50 during happy hour. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. I will visit again. 😊

We chose this place because of its great Google rating and the fact it offers both sushi and Japanese BBQ — just what we were craving. The vibe inside was cozy, but the food didn’t really stand out — though looking at my pics, you can see why it’s so popular. Since it’s inside QVB and doesn’t have its own restroom, we had to head up to the third floor to find one. The staff were really friendly and patient, which made the whole experience nicer.

sometimes i stop by with my partner to eat here, and it's always been really nice! prices are reasonable and the wait (if there is one) is never particularly long. you can also order straight to your table or pick it up via the sushi conveyor belt, so it's up to your preference!

Sushi Hotaru is one of my favourite spots for a quick and fresh lunch! The sashimi is always fresh, and the prices are very reasonable. Perfect place for a quick catch-up during lunch hour – the service is fast, and there’s a great variety to choose from. Love the ordering system too – so convenient and efficient. Highly recommend!

The sushi train here is very popular and is usually busy which is great because the plates get turned over quicker and you aren’t just eating something that’s been on the conveyor belt for hours on end. Ordering is easy you can pick off the train or you can order via a touch pad that is in front of you. Staff are attentive, and the dishes come out quick when you order. Each plate starts at about $5, they also have a range of ala carte items like udon and salads and sashimi which cost a bit more than $5.

I have visited at 1pm on Sunday. The food and the sushi chef were great, and the service for the dishes was quick. However, the manager who handled my payment was very unfriendly and had a gloomy attitude. I wasn’t even informed that I needed to ask for the bill, and instead of helping, he embarrassed me by asking where my bill was. Thanks to another staff member, I was finally able to pay. The food was good, but with such unkind service, I have no intention of coming back.

Gaku Robata Grill is a culinary gem that beautifully marries traditional Japanese cooking with modern flair. Nestled in a minimalist setting, this intimate 11-seater offers an exquisite dining experience led by the talented owner-chef duo, Haru Inukai and Shimon Hanakura.
We visited the famous bar-restaurant in Darlinghurst, known for its ramen offerings available exclusively at lunchtime. I tried their special Tsukemen (dipping ramen), and it was a delightful experience. The noodles were thick and chilled, giving them an extra chewy and bouncy texture that was simply perfect. The dipping broth, made with a bonito base, was light, refreshing, and not greasy at all. A side of marinated cabbage added a sweet crunch, complementing the dish beautifully. The pork belly slices were marinated and served as-is, yet they tasted tender and flavorful without any overwhelming fattiness. Adding to the dish’s uniqueness was the crispy seaweed-flavored fried fish cake, which added an extra layer of flavor and texture. This is a dish that feels incredibly refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. The bar’s relaxed and inviting atmosphere further enhances the dining experience, making it a place I’d love to revisit to try other ramen options.

Dinner is definitely overrated especially for the price. We reserved for dinner planning to get ramen but they don't serve ramen at dinner. We asked to cancel but they said they would charge $60 if we cancel. Dinner menu is underwhelming nothing special but the prices are exorbitant. A poke bowl with Wagyu costs about $125 whilst the foie gras Monaka which is the size of a cookie costs $25! Haven't tried the ramen at lunch but definitely wouldn't recommend the dinner menu here. Tip: if you want ramen at dinner and it's past 8-9pm and you're in Darlinghurst go down the road to Yorimichi, they open late till 12am.

I've been coming here for a long time so l feel like l'm part of the furniture. The sashimi normally comes on a bed of diced ice but l just ask them to place it on a bed of small stones - reason, l eat it quickly and l'm a local here. The menu specials are always seasonal and l'm really enjoyed trying the winter time sukiyaki for the first time tonight. I'm not sure if this will be available in the summertime. One of my favourite handroll is the eggplant and its a must try in my eyes. Tonight, due to Sydney's bad weather it wasn't busy but over the years l've seen it go from me just walking in around 8pm a getting a spot at the bar where you can see all the action to sorry Wayne, we are full - l would highly recommend you make a booking these days. Last orders are at 8.30pm. It's a very small restaurant with only one large seating table for around 6 and one for 2 to 3 people. The main bar can seat around 10 people l think and the two side bars facing the street can seat up to 3 people. By the way, they have a good selection of suki which l prefer cold. Tonight l only gave them three stars for the service as one of the waitresses finished early due to the bad weather and the restaurant wasn't busy - normally l would rate them a 4 star service.
Wayne M — Google review
Since we went on a Wednesday, the restaurant didn’t have uni available. The sashimi platter (P2) was pretty underwhelming—nothing tasted particularly fresh, and the snow crab was especially disappointing: overly salty and clearly not fresh, more like low-quality frozen seafood. ❌ The eel (P3) was also a pre-made product, simply thrown on the grill for three minutes. The meat was tough and definitely not worth the price listed on the menu. ❌ On top of that, one of the chefs was casually scrolling on his phone during service. Considering how sushi is made with direct hand contact, this was incredibly unsanitary and unprofessional. I don’t even want to think about how many bacteria were on his phone case and screen. The foie gras mochi (P4) was the only dish I actually enjoyed—it tasted great, but it’s very rich, so you can’t eat too much of it. This is the only item I would recommend. Now, for the worst part: the beef tongue (P5). I was shocked to find that instead of being grilled, it was slow-cooked and served in a thick, sour-tasting sauce with mushrooms that had zero mushroom flavor. The tongue itself was absurdly thick—almost like a brick—and poorly prepared, with visible taste buds on the edges (I was too disgusted to take a photo, and even thinking about it now makes me feel sick 🤢). To make matters worse, the wagyu salad had unwashed greens, which was completely off-putting. At that point, I just wanted to leave. We finished with a caramel ice cream roasted sweet potato for $20, but it was nothing special. The total bill for two people was $254—definitely not worth it. If you’re thinking of coming here, I’d only recommend the foie gras mochi and nothing else.

Been meaning to come here quite a while to try out the ramen here but also heard that the tsukemen was available so I had to have both. The tsukemen was very good. It was a fish based broth for the dipping sauce. I can't say the noodle were too much to my liking but together it was alright. The duck yuzu ramen was super good really like how they added the fried veggie for some added texture. Duck was cook super nice and loved the wonton. Went here for a lunch on Thursday and there was a line before opening. Soon after it was full but there was no line. Be sure to check menu as lunch and dinner serve different things.

Went for chef tsukasas special event popup. He's very cheerful and cute. The ramen broth was delicious and the sushi very fresh. The counter sitting is good for watching chefs at work, but would be better if the proximity to other diners was a little more spaced out and if a crate or something was provided under the stools to put our stuff. We were in and out in 30mins.
Denise ( — Google review
Since Yelp was a platform for food enthusiasts to discover exceptional dining experiences, I have not returned to this establishment. Today, I had lunch with duck ramen. The ramen was satisfactory, but I found the broth to be excessively light for a duck consommé. Nevertheless, it was pleasant with a subtle yuzu flavour. The addition of tempura vegetables provided a delightful crunch. However, I found the smoked duck breast to be overcooked. I prefer my duck to retain a slight pink hue.

Super friggen good experience. The vibe was super cool with dim lights, nice open kitchen, lil dj and furnishings, pretty pretty cool. Came here cos I saw it had been awarded two chef hats and Japanese food gotta be the best in the world, it got like a 15/20, I think, from Australia Food Guide and they definitely deserved it! We also ordered like half the menu, at least. The food was crazy good; both the wagyu beef and tuna tartare were the best i've ever had, melted in my mouth and heaps flavour of the best kind; I don't usually order steak, because I find them boring, but the wagyu steak, that the nice waitress recommended, ended up blowing my mind, super tender and flavourful; the truffle wagyu katsu sandwich is as good as it sounds; even the pickled veges were rlly good and there were other amazing stuff i ate. However, I found the gyoza, the fried chicken, and the rice with fish on top to be nothing special to be honest. Dessert was like 7/10 for both. Oh and everything came pretty quick and very nicely spaced. The waiter was heaps cool, chatting good, and recommending wines to my parents n that. However, I WISHED THAT THEY WARNED US ABOUT THE KITCHEN CLOSING! cos I definitely could have done with some more tartare. Bathroom was very nice too. Overall, VERY VERY VERY FRIGGEN GOOD. I love tartare even more now. THANK YOU.

I believe Kuro had its moment 3 years ago. It was good back then, but in 2025, “the food iwas okay” is probably the most generous comment I can make. However, the ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. The dim lighting paired with the furnishing does create a nice vibe. The servicing was atrocious. There was a 40 minute wait between the last entry and main. The staff on multiple occasions bought over dishes that were not ours not once… not twice… but three times. The kicker on top is of that was staff said there were 2 desserts, for us to finish the first dessert… wait 15 minutes for them to tell us they made a mistake around what menu we ordered. There is an opportunity for Kuro to reinvent itself.

Absolutely outstanding experience. The food and service were exceptional from start to finish. I came here with a client and was amazed I hadn’t heard of it before — a hidden gem! We visited the restaurant for my sister's 21st birthday. The food was good, drinks from the bar were amazing, staff was polite and friendly. But the food service let the whole experience down. It took for ever for the food to come, and often only half of the course would come, then 10 mins later the other half would arrive. We have half of our snack, edamame came after our entree. And one of our entree didn't show up at all. It took an hour and half to get to our main course, sorry the first half of our main course, then 10 mins later, after we cleared the dishes, the 2nd half of the main course arrived. We were getting more hungry as the night went on, and also quite bored. In the end, we didn't bother with desserts. To the credit of the staff, they were all friendly and professional, even send out a birthday dessert free of charge. Overall service was great, food was good, just the food took forever to arrive. Lastly, there is no energy with the DJ. He is just playing background music all night. But what's the point, if you want background music, any Spotify playlist can do. Why hire the DJ and don't utilise them. I was at Kid Kyoto the night before, food was equally delicious and service was quick. All the courses arrived at the same time. Given the similar price point, I don't see myself coming back.

I visited this place a few years ago and loved it, so I came back this time with a friend. The cocktails were still great, but the food was just okay i mean not bad, but not as impressive as before. Maybe the quality dropped a little since the prices went down. Still, it’s a great value for money course overall. I mentioned that it was for a birthday when making the reservation, but nothing was written on the dessert. Meanwhile, the table right next to us got one on their dessert. Candle and writing😅 It just felt a bit unfair. Anyway, I still wish them the best.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR!!! Food was so epic 😭🥹 we got the set menu, every bite made me SO HAPPY omg esp the WAGYU STEAK and SALMON😭 SUCH UMAMI. I loved the noodles too so creamy so good. Entrees were so cute and delicious, i loved how the quiche is savoury and sweet(its base is very soft and creamy/milky). The oyster was really fresh and the fish tartare had such a good blend of different ones. All the drinks were amazing too, really recommend the apple flavoured sake, it has the apple pulp too and so sweet so yummy. All the staff were super friendly and nice too, I had a great time! Interior design is very classy and intimate, music has good vibes too, was jazz covers of english songs, I really rate.

We came here for my foodie wife's birthday. We had the premium chefs selection menu. The grilled imperador was so crispy and moist at the same time. The service was great, and food was wonderfully executed, highly recommended!
Sam L — Google review
Agreed with Manfred N, Kuro has really slipped from a very nice restaurant to one that probably isn’t worth returning to, unless they can reinvent themselves. The new dishes were really below average in taste and execution. There seems to be little thought in what ingredients complement others, these new dishes on the block are mish-mashes that make you wonder why you wasted the money. Had a similar experience with the service, a very long wait between dishes (probably also 30+ minutes) and tables were only about a third full? How do you plan to service a full restaurant? Kuro’s prime time has passed. Can it claw its way back?

Sashimi Shinsengumi is a humble Japanese eatery in Crows Nest, owned by sushi master Shinji Matsui and his wife Tomoko. With over 45 years of experience, the couple focuses on offering classic Japanese seafood specialties such as sushi and sashimi platters. To enjoy their offerings, customers need to place an order via text a few days in advance and pick it up at the shop.
Fresh, Delicious, and Great for Takeaway Sashimi Shinsengumi always delivers top-quality, fresh fish. Their sushi is flavorful, with rice that’s soft and slightly sweet. Although it’s takeaway only, everything is well-packed and perfect for making seafood bowls at home. The uni is especially outstanding - sweet, fresh, and rich in flavor. Highly recommended!

High quality, thick cuts of fish even for takeaway, the freshness and standard really stand out. The price is incredibly reasonable for what you get. Ordering was easy and friendly via message. We requested no eel, and they were more than happy to offer a great alternative. A friendly local spot when I want amazing sushi without flying to Japan!

Sashimi Shinsengumi. I'll forever remember this place as the one where I lost my good sushi-ginity. It was circa 2015. My friends had found their FB page advertising Chef Matsui's sushi omakase, a word that we hadn't heard before. If you were lucky enough to get a reservation, you could sit on a table of 10 (or 12?) and have a sushi master personally making sushi for you, one by one. To a group of friends in their late teens who had never even tried nigiri before and who knew sushi only to be the salmon avocado/chicken katsu rolls at sushi hub, this was an experience not to be missed! The only problem? You had to call a phone number as soon as they posted that reservations were open. You, and about a hundred other people trying to get on the one phone line too. Voicemail. Voicemail. Voicemail. "Yo I got in" my friend screamed. 😂 I won't talk too much about the actual sushi omakase experience, because as far as I know they don't do it anymore. I just have good memories of us kids saying "man that's gangstaaa" every time Chef used his long, shiny knife, or pulled out his blowtorch, or gave an extra piece of tuna to the hungriest looking guy on the table LOL. Back then, the omakase was done seated around his metal commercial kitchen table too, not like the fancy places you can visit these days around Sydney. Sashimi Shinsengumi is now open for take away orders only. I'm not exactly sure when they switched (COVID lockdown perhaps?). Recently we were driving past Crow's Nest, and I decided to check if they were still open. What do you know, they were! We spent $110 on this platter for two which came with two servings of otoro, scampi, uni, conger eel, scallop, salmon belly, kingfish and some white fish + silver-skinned fish. In a way, it is still 'omakase' because what ends up on the platter is what he decides and has available on the day. It's been a long time since I've had Chef Matsui's sushi, but yes, the taste brought me back to the first time. 📍Sashimi Shinsengumi, Crow's Nest

Sashimi Shinsengumi’s takeaway is on another level. Even though they’ve moved away from dine-in omakase, the quality and attention to detail remain just as high. The sashimi is incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and tastes exactly like an omakase experience packaged to go. It truly feels like fine dining at home. Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, top-quality sashimi and Japanese cuisine.

Got a box of fatty taro, a box of uni, and a box of amaebi, total came to $A79. Super fresh, and reasonably priced. I always love adding a bit of shichimi to my sushi or sashimi, it really brings out the natural sweetness of the seafood.

Being a Kokushu/Nihonshu/Sake specialist you are not disappointed for selections or the presentation of the menu.😉 The Orion beer on tap was very refreshing and a great and only option. Stand out dishes : Fire fly squid The duck The house miso pickled vegetables And The clams. If you haven’t been…. You should!!!!!

Came here for my 40th birthday dinner last night. No way is this a typical Izakaya restaurant. This is more of a sake bar than anything. They cook the food in the kitchen and serves them to you at the table. Nothing special except the variety of sake. While the choice of sake and food quality was good, it was definitely not worth 5 stars. The river shrimp karage was good. The other dishes were nothing spectacular. That's about it. We ordered a wagyu beef brisket which took almost an hour to arrive! And the previous course was served 30mins prior. Definitely not worth an hr wait. Service was severely lacking. When I mentioned that the Wagyu took too long, the wait staff offered a simple "sorry". I had received better hospitality from sushi shops! The aircon also needs servicing. Water keep dripping down my back during the entire dinner. My shirt was wet from the air con by the time we ended out dining experience. Overall, a huge disappointment at this highly rated place.

We were lucky to secure a table on the sidewalk on a public holiday. It’s an izakaya in a way, serving mostly sake with small side dishes. Service was surprisingly quick and we finished dinner in an hour. We loved the sashimi, which was incredibly fresh! And the yuzu wine on the rocks was fun (see video).

I’ve been here twice in the past two months, and every visit feels like a little trip to Japan. The space is good for smaller groups of two to four, due to the seating setup—any bigger and it’s a bit tricky to chat with everyone. The menu changes regularly, which keeps things exciting, and there are some standout dishes like the school prawns, cheese paired with pickles, and the agedashi tofu. The sake list is also extensive, so there’s plenty to explore.

(4.5 stars) Some restaurants leave you feeling warmly toward them. Tumbling out of a tiny, hole-in-the-wall on Liverpool Street in Darlinghurst, Nomidokoro Indigo is one such place. We stumbled upon this small collection of mismatched tables set under a retractable canvas awning a few weeks back after an event at the National Art School. We marvelled at the tiny interior, where twelve guests can sit facing a counter that concludes in a kitchen separated only by noren curtains. We resolved to come back and try it, and last night we left feeling very glad that we did. The izakaya’s menu revolves around sake. Fittingly, you’ll spin the bottle to make your selection, or rely upon friendly and knowledgeable staff. Ichinokura Enyu tokubetsu junmai ($27/180ml) suits kingfish sashimi ($19) fanned out over washed onion. It’s plucked from a daily selection of snacks, like eggplant and quail eggs ($8.50) and corn and onion fritters ($8.50). Both are served cold, designed to take the edge off your hunger as you neck that first important beverage and forget about your day. Sake steamed baby clams ($19) are like diving into the ocean. The seductive blend of butter, sake and clam juice warrants a sake upgrade to the umami-rich Kozaemon Bizen Omachi kimoto junmai ($38/180ml). Salty sea water stays with me through chawanmushi ($19). Here creamy hunks of king prawn and briny bubbles of salmon roe burst over warm, perfectly textured custard. The food here is effortless and simple, like the slightly-too-firm torched jacket potato ($16.50) topped with squid fermented in its own funky juices. Scallops ($22.50), painted with soy butter, only wanted for their adductor muscles to be cut to release them from their shells. We ended our night eating roast duck slices glazed in soy and chilli yuzu ($25), wondering if we had just teleported to Tokyo.

Izakaya style restaurant - transports you right back to Japan. The food was delicious - 10/10 (only the tamago was a miss for me)! We ordered a few different sakes and they were all amazing. The seating was a bit cramped but I highly recommend booking the bar seating (limited) so you don’t have to stand or sit outside. The service was outstanding and the people were attentive, quick and kind. My only criticism is about the price of food - while I understand the location is quite popular, I was a bit shook as to how expensive some vegetarian things were. My favourite dish was the Japanese pickles + cream cheese however for the portion size, you’re paying $20 which is insane! I won’t be returning as I tried pretty much everything on the menu as I went with friends. I highly recommend but be prepared to spend a bit :)

Takes you back to Japan and how! This izakaya-inspired joint had the fastest and most friendly service. A great selection of Sake, beers and whiskeys. A perfectly curated food menu with light bites + heaps of vegetarian options. Everything we were served was a 10/10.

Atmosphere and service very lovely (5 stars)! Food 2 stars. If you have a gluten intolerance this place is definitely a no go for you (it doesn’t even have a GF soy sauce. Very limited food options for GF but my partner still got very sick after the restaurant so it wasn’t fully GF after all). Otherwise the food unfortunately wasn’t great either, sashimi was ok but probably not the freshest one. Eggplant dish I could not eat, meat too well done and micro portion, scallops were ok but very well done and lacked flavour. Overall it’s overpriced and lacks flavour ($165 for one sake and few small entree size dishes for the quality & portion size).

Fine dining restaurant
Tetsuya's Restaurant in Sydney is a renowned Michelin-starred dining establishment that offers a unique fusion of traditional Japanese cuisine with a French influence. The restaurant, owned and operated by Chef Tetsuya Wakuda, is housed in a beautifully refurbished heritage-listed building overlooking a picturesque Japanese garden.
I’ve been to this place at least three times and the quality of food has always been too good for words. The ingredients used are always fresh, the style of cooking is a marriage between Japanese and French cuisine. The service is great - all the staff encountered from the entrance are polite and entertaining to say the least. Each and every food item is presented well with healthy level of info about where the ingredients came from, and how each item was prepared. In one of my visits, we went for the wine-pairing option, and although it was really good, that was a bit too much alcohol for my small body frame. In one of my visits, both my cousin and I were celebrating our milestone birthdays, and Tetsuya’s gave each one of us a selection of free desserts. I’d like to go back again one day.

We first dined here >15 years ago and held fond memories so decided to come back one more time before the establishment closes for good. The food tastes just as good as it did all those years ago - with the ocean trout their signature dish. The restaurant was absolutely packed out on a weeknight due to everyone wanting to try/return one last time so service was a little rushed. We didn’t mind it too much as the first time from memory it took 4-5 hours to dine and way too much time between each dish but the second time around it only took 3 hours. The 8 course degustation is priced at $320pp without wine pairing but where you get caught out is $20 tea $20 water $25 parking $15 oysters etc so our total bill was way more than $320pp. Is it exorbitant pricing in this climate of high living costs? Yes but twice in 15 years is okay for quality food. The end of an era… we will miss it.
Nin R — Google review
The oysters were great, as were the salad of scampi/uni/caviar. The ocean trout lived up to the hype, but unfortunately the dining experience as a whole did not. Every other dish didn't feel refined and the Australian wine pairings felt hit-and-miss. The menu and wine pairings both need a desperate dose of inspiration and direction. Hopefully these come along with the new location.
Jonathan W — Google review
One of the most disappointing dining experiences I've encountered so far, and my best friend shares the same opinion. The staff was excellent; we received a warm welcome at the entrance and had great service from the wait staff throughout our lunch. However, the food did not meet the expected standard given the price we paid. Having dined at various other establishments, we could draw comparisons with different dishes. Upon visiting Google to write a review, I noticed numerous 5 star reviews for the food, which has left me perplexed. Am I being too discerning... The tastes were either dull or a combination of too many flavors that did not complement each other. The only redeeming thing on the menu was the additional $120 caviar and bread with truffle butter, which was delicious. I cannot recommend this restaurant; there are certainly better options within the same price range and for less.

As soon as you walk in, you know you're going to have a great night. The service is the best I have had around the world. Their drink mixing of cocktails has been dialed into a fine out. The mix of flavors is spot on. The food was to diefor everything was cooked perfectly and very well presented on the plate like fine artwork. Great laid out tables for conversation. This place is selling an experience, not just great food.

I had an amazing fine dining experience. The food and cocktails were tantalizing & exquisite. My favourite dish was the Ocean trout! It literally melted in my mouth! Tasted amazing! So fresh and mouth watering ❤️ I think I enjoyed the seafood dishes more than the meat/dessert dishes, but I love my seafood more than anything. I loved the oysters also!!! (They were add-ons) and the caviar was to die for! 🤤 I also love my desserts but unfortunately the desserts didn’t capture my heart this time. The dessert presentations were amazing! My favourite dessert would be the chocolate stone, so smooth and velvety 😍 Very pleasant and light to eat. The customer service was exceptional. They were super friendly & attentive. And they also checked if there was any dietary requirement, so they could cater to our needs!! They definitely looked after us through the whole dining experience.

Loved this place! The staff are amazing. I also loved the restaurants timeless interior that overlooked the Japanese style garden - so classy. Some dishes that were a highlight for me were the oysters, the tuna, and the abalone. That truffle butter served with the bread is awesome as well! Surprisingly, I wasn't a big fan of the famous ocean trout dish, presentation was gorgeous though.

Managed to get a booking at Tetsuya before they moved locations. Really enjoyed the beautiful garden view. The food was very well presented and a delightful experience for the taste buds. The sitting was a little longer than we'd hoped (3.5hrs) with a bit too much time between each course. The service was friendly but it did feel a little not genuine. But overall, it was a decent experience and I'm glad we got to try it.

sushi e is a renowned, upscale Japanese restaurant located in The Establishment precinct. The restaurant offers a blend of traditional and contemporary sushi-making techniques, providing an intimate and theatrical dining experience. Guests can indulge in classic nigiri options like kingfish belly and unagi, or opt for creative uramaki rolls such as Balmain bug tempura with spicy mayonnaise. For a special occasion, diners can book the 20+ course omakase experience for an immersive culinary journey.
My 2nd time here tonight for my 21st birthday. Service was incredible especially from Paul who accommodated extremely well for my sister who is gluten free. The food was delicious, fresh and came out quick. They also brought out a delicious cheesecake with a candle on it. Perfect place to celebrate. A must visit.

Tried Sushi e for the first time, and it definitely delivers a refined dining experience. The decor sets the tone for a classy atmosphere, and the menu offers a great range of signature dishes. Service was very good from start to finish. The food quality, preparation, and presentation were all impressive, though it does come with a hefty price tag. The drinks were just as enjoyable. It’s not the kind of place you’d visit casually with friends for a Japanese food craving, but it’s a great option for celebrating something special.

I’ve always been to this establishment, but I actually didn’t know it has such a lovely Japanese sushi bar inside! The food overall was really nice — fresh, well-presented, and truly enjoyable. However, the service on that day was a little behind. The waitress was friendly, but she seemed quite busy and tried to chill the Umeshu for us, which I appreciated. Still, I had to raise my hand a few times to get her attention for refills, even though it was already quite late (we reserved for 8 pm and the restaurant wasn’t busy by then). Eventually, I just asked her to leave the bottle on the table, which worked out fine in the end. Overall, great food and atmosphere — just hope the service can be a little more attentive next time.

Table was too small or maybe we ordered too much, not sure which. Portion sizes and prices are on par with what were expected. There was not a single disappointment with any of the dishes. Order what you feel like and enjoy yourselves.

the oysters were good quality and went well with the ponzu sauce! The kingfish was was really nice as well I recommend this dish! It was really light and fresh! The sashimi was all really good and the salmon was a personal favourite! It was so creamy. The beef tartare was really nice with the egg yolk and the meat was really firm and creamy with everything all combined. The cracker complemented it really nicely too with a fun crunch. The salmon nigiris were good as well, nothing specifically stand out but it was just spend well. The toothfish was really good! It was so soft and there was a little saltiness which was nice! The finger line was also another fun texture. I had a zucchini flower special which isn’t pictured but i didn’t quite enjoy that dish as much as the others. It was all finished off with the complimentary pannacotta! Overall the food and atmosphere was really good and perfect for pairs/couples as you are seated in the bar facing the chefs preparing food! The main disappointment I had was the service, our water wasn’t refilled the entire time we were there, which is something I feel we shouldn’t have to request, especially at the price point for the restaurant. Even when the waiters would come around they weren’t very attentive. They seemed quite inexperienced or not well trained as they often had to go back and reconfirm with the chef what certain dishes were, which was a bit strange.

I just had a dinner and a great night here. Nice environment on the top of the Establishment. Waitress was so polite helping us with our choices, easy to talk to and with a good memory. Food was cooked in front of us, which helped as well to understand exactly what we could have eaten. We spent 2 hours eating great food. The dessert suggested by our waitress was amazing! It’s an expensive restaurant but totally worth it.

RK San Contemporary Japanese Restaurant is a unique establishment that adds a contemporary spin to traditional Japanese cuisine. By using locally sourced ingredients, RK San creates innovative dishes like their daily Cigar creation, where salmon is wrapped in pastry and designed to resemble a cigar. This sets them apart from other restaurants, offering patrons a dining experience like no other. Situated in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, this restaurant holds an esteemed reputation as one of the finest Japanese eateries around.
Ingrid (5yrs) rates the marble in the lemonade bottle highly along with the black stones with the scallop plate. The edible flowers also went well with her dress and she did enjoy tasting them. Japanese fried chicken rated well as did experimenting with the amuse dish that featured fried rice cake. The 4 accompanying guests seem to have polished off all other dishes around her which were rated highly for interesting fusion twists. Delicious.

All the dishes were beautifully presented and came out quickly. The service was friendly and efficient. Just something to note — the portion sizes are on the smaller side. We ordered 9 dishes between the two of us, and it was just the right amount of food. For the quality, the pricing is on the higher side ($200 for two people), but the presentation and flavors made it worth it to try once. My favorite dishes were the cigar, tuna ceviche, and wagyu carpaccio — absolutely delicious!

Dinner was such a fun experience! That wasn’t a real cigar, it was made with salmon, very delicious 😋 I’m pretty sure the ash was made from white sesame. Truly a fantastic meal. 1️⃣ Cigar with Salmon: Cigar-shaped crispy pastry filled with sashimi-grade salmon tartare and house-made ash 👍🏻 2️⃣ Toro Carpaccio: Sliced toro with char garlic dressing, seedless jalapeno and micro coriander 3️⃣ Sear Scallop Salad: Sliced Hokkaido scallop seared with house-made seafood oil mixed greens 4️⃣ Maguro Hana: Floral shaped tuna, spicy mayonnaise on bed of crispy sushi rice and micro shiso 👍🏻 5️⃣ Trevally Tempura: Trevally tempura and watermelon cube on ponzu lake with cilantro and onion bushes 6️⃣ Yakitori Negima: Chicken and shallot skewer with teriyaki sauce 7️⃣ Braised Pork Belly: 36 hrs sous vide pork belly with carrot purée, dashi ginger glaze, popped pork skin, cumin crumbs 8️⃣ Karaage: Karaage chicken, spicy mayonnaise and avocado 9️⃣ Soft-Shell Crab: Soft-shell crab, spicy mayonnaise and avocado 🔟 Tuna Tartare: Tuna, spicy mayonnaise and avocado 1️⃣1️⃣Miso Butter Salmon: Salmon with seasonal vegetables and miso butter sauce

RK San in Redfern is an absolute gem for contemporary Japanese cuisine. The dishes are beautifully presented, with a perfect balance of traditional flavours and modern creativity. Everything we ordered was fresh, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully plated – from the delicate sashimi to the inventive small plates. The atmosphere is sleek but welcoming, and the staff are attentive without being intrusive. It’s clear a lot of care goes into the food and overall experience. Highly recommend for a date night or a stylish catch-up with friends.

We had such a wonderful experience here. The restaurant is spotless and very well kept, and we were warmly welcomed with a complimentary entree which was such a thoughtful touch. The gentleman who served us, dressed in a chef’s uniform and clearly the owne, Tamang, was incredibly polite, attentive and helpful. The food itself was absolutely delicious, clearly made with care and attention to detail. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into both the menu and the overall dining experience. Even though the place was not busy during our visit, it truly deserves to be. We do not live in the area and getting here was not easy, but it was absolutely worth it. A hidden gem. Keep up the good work, we will definitely be recommending this restaurant to others.

Unfortunately I’m struggling to see why this place is so highly rated. We had 5 dishes which were all very average. Nestled in the vibrant Surry Hills, Tokyo Bird is a compact bar that exudes an industrial-chic vibe, making it a must-visit for fans of Japanese whiskey and sake. This cozy spot specializes in serving up delightful yakitori bites alongside an impressive selection of Japanese whiskies and cocktails.
Wow what a great hidden spot in Surry hills! Their yakitori are well priced and portions match it. Everything was so tasty and cooked to perfection, well seasoned with delicious sauces. Loved the cabbage salad, salmon yakitori, Wagyu and chicken thigh yakitori. Cute moody and intimate spot! Great service from the lads who are super attentive and always replaced our water etc

Like the other reviews, the place itself seems hard to notice but it’s actually quite a decent sized venue inside. We made a mistake and didn’t make a reservation (so I recommend doing so) but they were able to make arrangements to fit three of us in. The food and drinks here are on the pricier end of things but I would say the quality of each dish is present and it does warrant a try at least once. Think of this place as high end izakaya.

Tokyo Bird is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is intimate yet lively, making it the perfect spot for a night out. Their cocktails are next level, beautifully crafted and balanced, and you can really taste the thought that goes into every detail. The whisky are worth the money! Love it! Cozy and hidden in the middle of surry hills. The entryway tucked away in an alley, making it feel like some secret back-alley restaurant hahah. The food is great, but feels a bit pricey as it IS skewers. Love the vibe and the cute Ghibli movies playing in the main dining area. Theres another dining area on the other side where you have better view of the kitchen as well. depending on the atmosphere you’re going for, both sides provide different dining experiences. We were sat in the back area the first time, which was a bit quiet— making us feel like we were eating in a deserted restaurant. The second time we were sat in the main area with the rest of the customers and the atmosphere fit our vibe a bit more. The food i feel was inconsistent with some tasting really good and flavourful, and some lacking that flavour. Favourite dishes were the salmon skewers and the corn ribs!!! Omg the corn ribs are so good! All in all, we returned a few times cause the food was yummy and the drinks were unique (and also taste really good!!)

Such a great Izakaya with great food and drink options. Couldn’t eat it all so will just have to come back. The salmon tostadas were a great experience with the crispy tempura nori to scoop the salmon up. All the Yakitori and Kushiyaki were on point. The cocktails were incredible. Service was great as staff super attentive and checking in frequently and everything came out quickly.

A fantastic venue for dinner tucked away at Tokyo Bird. The food is spot-on – simple, flavourful yakitori and izakaya dishes that paired perfectly with their creative cocktails and whisky selection. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Every person we dealt with was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. From guiding us through the menu to checking in on how we were enjoying our meal, they struck the perfect balance between attentive and relaxed. Besuto - Omakase Sydney offers an exclusive 15-course dining experience with only 8 seats available per session. The restaurant promises to provide the best produce available, featuring dishes like miso-marinated Glacier 51 toothfish and toro with N25 caviar. The menu changes regularly, ensuring a unique culinary journey for each visit. Besuto aims to immerse patrons in traditional and cutting-edge Japanese culture and cuisine, offering an unforgettable dining experience.
Dining at Besuto Sydney was an incredible experience from start to finish. Every detail—from the meticulous presentation to the balance of flavors—was truly impressive. The chef was not only skilled but also warm and engaging, adding a personal touch to the evening. Each dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Every bite made me think, “I’m definitely coming back.” It’s rare to find an omakase experience this refined and memorable. The ambience was cozy, intimate, and thoughtfully decorated, with seating for just eight people—making it feel like a private culinary performance. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, contributing to the seamless experience. Without a doubt, Besuto ranks among the best Japanese omakase restaurants I’ve been to. A must-visit for anyone seeking a top-tier dining experience in Sydney.

Exquisite experience, charming staff and very knowledgeable chef that brought the whole experience together. It goes without saying that the food was exceptional. Next time i would be tempted by the sake pairing but tbh we were perfectly satisfied without it! Intimate and perfect for date/celebration. Option to converse with the other diners if you are so inclined but the atmosphere is also perfectly comfortable to enjoy quietly.

My husband and I had an amazing time at Besuto, Omakase. The cocktails were delicious, Kyoto Day Dreams and Stroll in Okinawa are our favourites! The chef prepared each dish with care, so delicious and well presented. Each dish is nicely timed, didn’t feel like we had to wait for the next dish to come out. Our waiter was superb, funny and friendly, he made us feel so welcome. The atmosphere was lively and fun throughout the evening. We enjoyed every moment and looking forward to coming back!

True Rating: 6/5 – Transcendent I feel that there are maybe three restaurants in Sydney that deserve to be judged on a different scale than most. Besuto is one of them. Straight away, you can tell that Chef Michiaki Miyazaki was trained in a three-Michelin starred restaurant in Japan. It is quite simply the best omakase in Australia and easily a contender among the world's finest, without the unnecessary pomp and ceremony that some insist upon. Having tried three very mediocre versions of omakase that I had been told were excellent, I was sceptical about trying another. Until the first bite, then I was blown away. Every single course builds, elevates and surprises in ways I've never experienced elsewhere. Sakizuke: It opens with a pristine oyster, subtly dressed and chilled just right, showcasing peak-season produce. Mukōzuke: A sashimi box follows, as elegant in flavour as in form. Chawanmushi: A luxuriously silky custard laden with the sweetest crab, ikura and truffle; my vote for the best ever served in Sydney. Yakimono: The black miso cod delivers caramelised edges and buttery flesh. I wish I could eat it every day. Sumiyaki: The Wagyu at Besuto has restored my faith in this often mishandled cut. Cooked perfectly and paired with fried asparagus, mushrooms and fresh wasabi. It is a master class in taste and texture. I never thought I'd say this but even after those beautiful dishes, along comes the nigiri. No soy or extra wasabi required, just perfectly seasoned rice at the ideal temperature and immaculate cuts. The salmon and tuna belly were absolute stand outs and a week later, I'm still thinking about them. A duo of hand rolls, brimming with uni, ikura and finely cut tuna, brings richness and pop, followed by a palate-cleansing hit of yuzu sorbet. Adding to Besuto's magic is Joel, the host and co owner is an absolute legend in the Sydney dining and Japanese whisky scene. He somehow manages to run the counter and bar while keeping service seamless and effortlessly enjoyable. Warm, intuitive and a genius at pairings, he matched a perfect Chablis and impeccable sake to the rhythm of this amazing menu. Recommendations for anyone reading this: Opt for sake or wine pairing. Joel's selections heighten each course without overpowering subtler flavours. Book well in advance, as the room's intimacy means it fills up quickly. Arrive on time and hungry as the progression is calibrated to take you from delicate to decadent and missing a course would be a shame.

I live in Japan. I visited Besuto Omakase as soon as I arrived in Sydney. Some familiar flavors got upgraded with the chef’s expertise. From presentation, to flavor, to wine and sake pairing… everything was professionally catered for with a smile. Can’t wait to go back.

I booked Omasake Besuto only because other omakase restaurants were fully booked. I was already hesitant since this place had many bad reviews years ago, but the recent positive ones made me think it was fine. Sadly, it wasn’t. The portions were very small, not filling at all, and the food was overly salty we had to drink a lot of water afterward. For over $900 for two people, the quality was far from worth it. The chef introduced the beef without even mentioning what grade it was (M7, M9, A9?), and the steamed egg with sea urchin was unpleasantly fishy. I also noted it was our anniversary, hoping for a small thoughtful touch, but all they did was put a candle on lemon sorbet. Even the guest next to us celebrating a birthday got the exact same thing. For the price, everything felt lazy, uninspired, and disappointing. Definitely not a place I would return to.

Restaurant
Ito Restaurant is a delightful addition to the Crown Street dining scene, offering a unique fusion of Italian and Japanese cuisine. Chef Erik Ortolani's blend of his Italian heritage with Japanese cooking results in an exceptional menu featuring dishes like yellowfin tuna on bonito bread with shaved bottarga and Wagyu mafaldine paired with white shimeji and miso. The cozy ambiance adds to the overall experience, making it a perfect spot for special occasions or casual dining.
I had my birthday lunch here and LOVED IT!!! The food was amazing. You must get the Prawn and Scallop ravioli…it was a 10/10. The cocktails were really nice too. Our waitress Millie was so sweet and made sure we had the best time. Can’t wait to come back and try out the rest of the menu.

I ordered the classic set menu, and every dish had both richness and freshness, which I really loved. The flavors of the ingredients were brought out beautifully, making everything taste amazing. (The kingfish dish and the tsukune were especially outstanding!) Two of us went together, and the portions were quite generous, so we had to pace ourselves while eating. All of the staff were kind, but Su-bin in particular was incredibly warm and attentive. She explained each dish really well and always checked in to see how we were enjoying the food, which made my impression of the restaurant so much better! On top of that, when I mentioned that my friend was treating me belatedly for my birthday, even though it had already passed, they surprised me with an ice cream topped with a candle. That thoughtful gesture made me so happy. I’ll definitely be coming back next time!

Came here for a girls night and it definitely did not disappoint!! We arrived early and they seated us straight away and also upgraded us to a window seat with a view. Staff were accommodating and kind, service was perfect. Food was amazing. Definitely recommended coming here!! We also mistakenly ordered the wrong dish and in return they gave us something on the house when the mistake was not on their part. Thank you so much for a great night, will be back for sure!!

By far one of the best restaurants in Sydney. Every single dish we ordered was superb. Our favourite were the scallop ravioli and the wagyu tartare. Also our server Milly was so amazing and friendly. It's the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion or even just for a date night. We look forward to returning again!
Vincent Y — Google review
I have been here on several occasions and every time we come back the highlight is always the yellowfin tuna on bonito bread! It’s small but packs an umami punch. An honorary mention goes to the prawn ravioli. The sauce is rich and creamy and perfectly coats the pasta. The addition of the lightly fried squid and tobiko add the perfect texture. Everything else is solid but the kingfish can be a hit or miss. The most recent time I went it was very fishy but I had no issues with it previously. Paired with the pickle it’s refreshing. They also do a delicious spicy marg if you’re into that.

The food was excellent—every dish was full of flavor and really well balanced. The atmosphere was great too; the slightly dim lighting made it feel cozy. We sat by a first-floor window with a nice view, which made it even better. Millie, our server, was so friendly and thoughtful and made the whole experience wonderful.I’d definitely come back!

We had the $129 pp banquet and were absolutely stuffed. The ravioli dish is one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had - must try if you love seafood. Would also highly recommend the tuna and layered eggplant dish. Would visit again.

Visited for a group of 4 on a double date and everything from the drinks to the food, to service exceeded my expectations. The flavours of all the dishes were unique and full of flavour. The sauce from the kingfish dish was a crowd favourite. Highly recommend!

Nestled in a striking concrete cube at the Surry Hills end of Sydney's CBD, Haco is an innovative dining experience that brings the art of tempura to life. This intimate 12-seat omakase restaurant, created by culinary talents Keita Abe and Kensuke Yada—who are also behind Chaco Bar—offers a unique twist on traditional Japanese cuisine.
We celebrated my husband’s 30th birthday at HACO and had an amazing experience! The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and each dish truly brought out the natural flavors. The staff were super friendly and attentive. When the dessert was served, the chef even kindly offered to take a photo of us — such a thoughtful gesture! Even the payment process at the end was fun and unique. Highly recommend coming here for a special dining experience!

Came in for the set lunch, such a great deal. The food came out really fast, and we were done in about 40 minutes. Service was quick but we didn’t feel rushed. The tempura was light and airy, it reminded me of Japan. The drinks were amazing with a huge menu to choose from. Will definitely come back to try the dinner menu!

We loved HACO! This is an intimate dining space with superb food. We chose the lunch sitting and were not disappointed. The tempura is served individually and is not rushed. We both chose the Meat Lover and were blown away by the Wagyu beef, the pork belly and duck were melt in the mouth! The cheese tempura was a great surprise. We went on to order the abalone and large prawn. We would have loved to have tried the sake selection shower we opted for the green tea. An awesome experience and will be back

It was a pleasant experience to dine at HACO Sydney. Service was attentive , great atmosphere and food was absolutely delicious. Our favourite dishes were the Chawanmushi and abalone. The lobster bisque totally nailed it . Wish we could have a bigger portion 🤣 Loved the dessert, not too sweet and the little cube of sweet potato made the whole dish complete . It’s located in a tiny lane way , kind of a hidden gem around the busy Sydney Commercial area.

Overall rating: 7.5 Seasonal Tempura Omakaze had hit and misses but mostly hits. Service staff were very attentive and deserves the mandatory service charge of 5%. Omakaze dishes in order: Scallop - 10 Perfectly cooked and amazing sauce to partner a well balanced first started dish. Sashimi - 9 Standard well matched Japanese quality dish. Chawanmushi - 9 A very nice twist with very fresh seasoned prawns. Prawn Tempura - 5 First disappointment, Tempura prawn cooked to perfection but that's all. No surprises with the Match salt or Tempura sauce soup combination. John Dory - 6 My fish was slightly overcooked but my partners were done perfectly. Probably just my luck. The curry salt was awesome. Zucchini flower - 8.5 The soup base that paired with the zucchini flower was amazing. The stuffing within the zucchini flower needed more personality. A little disappointed that the stem wasn't included in the dish and was thrown away even it was tempura'd before serving. Yuzu - 8 Taste is a 10, but disappointed that it was noted as a dish on the menu when it was a Palette cleanser. Abalone - 8 Abalone cooked perfectly, and sauce was very well balanced but not my cup of tea. Market fish - 9 Same as above, cooked well and sauce was amazing. Wagyu - 11 out of 10 Superb, the tempura oyster wrapped with a5 Wagyu beef and sauces was perfection. Every bite was, the amount was just right for those with high cholesterol 😉 Ramen - 9.5 Chicken soup broth amazing, not enough noodles to have it all. Char sui slice was done well. Desert - 10 Well done with the sweet potatoes tempura and ice cream combi.

It’s been a while since i was here but still think about the experience and the food here from time-to-time so I had to write a review! If you’re thinking of treating yourself or doing an intimate celebration with a friend/partner, and want to go a bit fancier than usual— get yourself some of that omakase experience, HACO is really beautiful from food to service to atmosphere. I still crave the food I had here, literally everything that was on the menu!! Would definitely come back again :)

celebrated my birthday dinner last month at @haco.sydney 💛 it was my first omakase experience and it did not disappoint! my favourite dishes of the night were the dessert of tempura fried sweet potato and the market fish of the night with that amazing sauce, so glad they gave us bread to soak all of it up in 🤤
Erinxeats — Google review
Had the chef's menu consisting of twelve dishes. The restaurant specialises in tempura with a modern spin. The dishes were creative and pretty tasty in general, but some of the sauces used to pair with the dishes such as the sashimi and the market fish were not to my liking. The prawn tempura and the wagyu dish topped with foie gras shavings were the highlights in the course. Service was good and the chefs explains the dishes as they are being served.

Kokumai Barangaroo is a new sushi bar in Barangaroo offering affordable omakase sets starting at $60 per person, with options for $80 and $100. The location may be a bit tricky to find, but the dining experience is worth it. Customers have enjoyed the Vivid special set meal and the 1-year anniversary specials, such as Skampi and Uni nigiri.
First off, the location was a bit difficult to find as google maps was confusing. Kokumai is located at the northern side of the dining block. Came for the Vivid special set meal at $50pp. This has got to be one of the most bang for buck japanese dining experiences in the city. Everything was tasty and enjoyable. We ordered their Skampi and Uni nigiri at $10 per plate, part of their 1 year anniversary special. My favourites were the scallop and fatty tuna pieces.
William W — Google review
Unfortunately not the best sushi train experience for us. Firstly we came here as they had two winter specials operating: 1) all sushi train plates $5 2) winter special set menu $50pp When I asked the server if we could have the special set menu, she advised the promotion was over. I didn’t try to correct her but they had just posted on their instagram 3 days before saying the promotion was running from 15th July until mid September. The post is still pinned to their instagram page today. I was a bit disappointed but was happy to just order off the regular menu and sushi train as I had read good reviews about their sushi. The sushi train selection was quite limited compared to what was displayed on the menu. It was the same few selections over and over again. The chef didn’t seem to be topping up some of the selections that had run out which happen to be more the expensive plates normally e.g scallops. In fact, we didn’t see him make any sushi whilst we were there but maybe that was due to the lack of customers present. The actual sushi wasn’t up to standard you would expect from a high establishment like this one. The quality of the sushi was okay but the rice was dry. We also ordered karsge chicken which was supposed to come with a yuzu mayo according to the menu but came with this weird black dipping sauce instead. The karage itself was also not the traditional potato starch coating. I know there are quite positive reviews for this place and I truly wanted to like this place but I just did not have the same experience and would of been better off going to Sushi Hotaru. I am just glad I didn’t pay full price for the sushi.

Lunch on a Monday was fairly quiet so not a lot of atmosphere. It was still interesting to watch the chefs preparing the food which was universally fresh and tasty. We opted for a combination of train and platter, all of which we enjoyed. There is a reasonable selection of alcoholic beverages including a variety of well priced Sake.

Tried this place for the first time because of the vivid promotion. Sashimi was delicious and fresh. We added extra nigiri options of scampi, toro and sea urchin and did not regret any of them! Food was great. Atmosphere is casual and only stools were available.
Carol C — Google review
One of the best quality tuna nigiri and sashimi you can try in Sydney. Located convenient at the heart of Barangaroo. The uni was pretty fresh and creamy. The $55 tuna platter sounds expensive but the quality and the freshness of the tuna is worth getting.
Moguchee M — Google review
A really lovely Omakase and sushi train. Chef was really friendly and talented. Everything I ate was super fresh. Quite so easy to have conversations. Sushi train had a lot of options.
Serena B — Google review
This night we opted for their discounted Vivid omakase set. Not bad for $50. We also chose some sushi from the belt. There is potential for this place to do well. Their nigiri on the sushi train could be slightly bigger. They look tiny compared to the rolls. Overall everything was fresh and nice. Mochi icecream was so good!
Steph Y — Google review
Their Omakase Sashimi is one of the tastiest and with the most varieties of sashimi I have ever tasted. Will definitely go back for more. Not sure why the place was quiet on a Saturday night. Hence I have marked down on the atmosphere category. With such great quality of sashimi, more should go and enjoy.

Toko Restaurant is a vibrant fusion of Japanese izakaya cuisine and Australian culture, set in an eye-catching space adorned with moody lighting that creates the perfect ambiance for a night out. This culinary gem invites diners to share delectable dishes while enjoying creative cocktails, making it an ideal spot for socializing.
Went to celebrate son’s 21st upon recommendation by a friend. Top notch from the lovely staff, the yummy food and the ambience of the restaurant. We had the nori-dasu tasting with a couple of side orders. Couldn’t fault the taste, each dish was nice to look at and just so good to savour. The staff are lovely, attentive and know what they’re doing smoothly. The restaurant itself is nice to look at, but gets a bit too loud when it’s nearly full. Overall, great experience and the birthday boy left happy. Will return definitely!

Toko in Sydney offers an unforgettable Japanese dining experience with a perfect blend of flavour and style. The lamb skewers are tender and smoky, the salmon sushi is fresh and delicate, and the chicken karaage is crispy and full of flavour. Vegetarians will love the spicy tofu, BBQ cabbage, miso soup, and broccolini—all thoughtfully prepared and bursting with taste. Combined with excellent cocktails and warm service, it’s a must-visit for lovers of modern Japanese cuisine.

I recently dined at Toko Sydney and was impressed by the stylish atmosphere and vibrant ambience. The setting is modern yet inviting, and the service was attentive throughout the evening. We tried the tasting menu ($115 per head), which was beautifully presented and showcased creative flavours. However, the portion sizes were on the small side – we left feeling unsatisfied and ended up grabbing something extra afterwards. The dishes lean more towards a fusion-style Japanese rather than traditional, which may appeal to some diners, but wasn’t quite what I was hoping for. Overall, Toko Sydney delivers a fantastic vibe with attentive staff and creative food, but the tasting menu could offer better value and more substance.

We visited this restaurant on a Wednesday evening without any reservations at 6ish and they had seats available. We got served by Benoit who was very attentive and funny! He made our experience very memorable so thank you! We ordered: - Sashimi Omakase 15pcs - Spicy Tuna Maki - California Maki - Wagyu Gyoza - Toko Salad - Chicken Karaage 3 cocktails Total price AUD289.17 Food was amazing and service was great! Thank you for another incredible night. The food was outstanding — the Scampi Nigiri was unforgettable, and the Pisco Sours were absolutely perfect. Please pass on our thanks to the chefs for their incredible work. A special thank you as well to Louise, Brian and Ash who looked after us so warmly, and for accommodating the request for some special maki for our friends’ 11-year-old. They are visiting from Germany and on their way to Japan today, and you left them with such an amazing impression of what Sydney has to offer. The dessert with the sparkle topped it all off and made the evening extra special. We truly appreciate it and cannot wait to be back.

Visiting Sydney and took my mum here for her birthday. To say we had an amazing experience is an understatement. From the service to the food, we had a welcoming and great experience overall. Staff was so attentive, kind and patient with us when we explained food allergies. Unfortunately forgot to get the name of the woman who served us but every staff member made my mum’s birthday a 10/10. Food was flavourful and portion sizes were ideal for us. Will definitely dine here again when I am back in Sydney!

With glimpses of the ocean and streetside tables, it provides a unique dining experience. It stands out among the few exceptional sushi places in town. Patrons have been loyal customers for years and continue to enjoy their meals like they did on their first visit. The restaurant is small but offers delivery and pick-up options.
Kyle is the best waiter in Sydney! Food always good and very fresh. Only negative is they don’t put the heaters on for outdoor dining during the day. In winter it’s too cold.

Raw bar - consistent. Expensive. Located right! I live very close to raw bar so it’s a firm fav but the “attitude” of the spot just rubs us up the wrong way. I guess situated where they are sells the goods pretty much. Don’t get me wrong, the food is great but it’s super expensive and the staff are not that friendly until you start up a conversation. Always have too much to eat. Warning the hand rolls are HUGE. Local and great quality. We keep going back.

Bondi’s OG sushi spot and still untouchable. Raw Bar nails that sweet spot between low-key local and top-tier quality. The sushi is always fresh, the sashimi practically melts, and the service is warm without being over the top. It’s the kind of place where you can stroll in straight from the beach and end up having one of the best meals of your week. Perfect for date nights, catch-ups, or solo sushi therapy. First time trying this restaurant in Surry Hills. Set menu is not a bad deal there’s lots of dishes and good portions too we were so full by the end. A Hidden Gem – Izakaya Fujiyama is a Must-Visit! I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Izakaya Fujiyama recently, and I can't stop thinking about the experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming staff made me feel right at home. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between modern and traditional, setting the tone for an unforgettable meal. The food? Incredible. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavour and beautifully presented, but the standout for me was the tuna belly tacos – melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Fresh, delicate, and expertly balanced – they alone are worth the visit. What also makes this place a winner is the convenient parking, which is a rare bonus in the area. It made the whole evening stress-free from start to finish. Whether you're a longtime fan of Japanese cuisine or just discovering it, Izakaya Fujiyama is a true standout. Delicious food, exceptional service, and thoughtful details – We’ll definitely be back!

Looking forward to head back and try the next seasonal menu. Is always fun to see what the chef explore with seasonal ingredients.

I went to Ora in Waterloo for a dinner date and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The atmosphere was spot on — elegant but relaxed, with beautiful lighting and a vibe that made the evening feel special without being too formal. The food was fresh, creative, and full of flavour — you can really taste the quality in every dish. We shared a few plates, and everything was presented beautifully. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a wholesome meal that still feels indulgent. What really stood out was the amazing service from Sam. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome and looked after. Her energy and professionalism added such a lovely personal touch to the night — it honestly made the whole experience even better. Ora is the kind of place I’d absolutely come back to — whether for another date night or just a beautiful dinner with friends.

Had a pleasant experience here 🥰 All the staff greet you nicely and makes you feel welcomed. The pacific oysters were quite big and fresh (half ponzu and half shiso). I usually like sweet drinks so the ly-chee-me cocktail suited my tastebuds. There’s a drink called bar-makase where they make you a random drink which I thought was interesting! We also tried the scampi nigiri and sea urchin nigiri - both were fresh and creamy but I liked the scampi more. Only downside is that street parking is limited and lamb cutlets took quite long (around 30-40 mins). Would go again though!

Great vibe and excellent service. The staff were very attentive and kind. We came here for my birthday and ordered tempura, miso soup, beef tataki, lamb cutlet, sashimi platter and sushi nigiri. The tempura was excellent and probably the highlight for the night. Most of the other food were also great. However, I was a bit disappointed at the sushi nigiri. I was expecting the Otoro to melt in my mouth but it was slightly old as seen in the picture. The sushi chef was very kind though, she offered us another piece. The second piece was much better but I could still feel the sinew as I was chewing on the Otoro. The sea urchin nigiri was okay but the seaweed was soggy and it impacted the texture of the nigiri. The eel nigiri was not torched long enough ☹️ This could very much be my personal preference in sushi but considering some were $15 for a piece, I was slightly disappointed…. Overall, decent experience and nice restaurant! However, if you are after authentic Japanese nigiri, this is probably not the place.

Such a great spot, super chill vibe, friendly staff, and the food was seriously good. Everything we ordered came out fresh and full of flavour. You can tell they really care about what they’re serving. The Lamb Kleftiko was a standout, but honestly, everything we tried hit the mark. Prices were fair too, especially for the quality. Great place to grab a meal with friends or just kick back and enjoy some good eats. Will definitely be back soon!

We visited in February 2023. The restaurant's ambiance was impressive, with a unique rock wall backdrop, soft lighting, and intimate seating. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring we left feeling full. While the sashimi was fresh, it lacked an outstanding flavour profile. Perhaps our visit coincided with a less adventurous seasonal menu. The chef and staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience, but the food could benefit from more innovative and complex dishes.

Jim's kitchen is a brand new experience at the waterfront. The place is slightly unnoticeable from the water front walk but once you walk right next to the building it becomes more obvious. It's modern design inside with the sandstone wall backdrop. Lighting is very comfortable. The sofa against the wall is on the hard side but the provided cushions helped. The setting is great for striking a conversation while taking a few glasses. At the time of this review only a 90pp set menu is available. The food is delicious and very generous in serve. The four of us had a bit trouble to consume all the food and had to takeaway some. The lamb is tender enough and maintained original flavour. We had John Dory as the Fish of the Day which was well done yet still firm enough for a bite. The staff provided excellent service and they are very accommodating. They are also very informative about their food and beverage. Overall a great dining experience.

Had the best night at Jimmy’s Kitchen. Delicious and generous sized meals. The atmosphere was ambient, service was first class and we were provided wonderful guidance on all food offerings - the tuna crudo, beef cheek and custard dessert were standout dishes. A perfect oasis at The Rocks - will definitely be back!

Jimmy’s Kitchen Bay offers authentic delicious Greek food and wine at very reasonable prices. We enjoy the feast menu and were more than satisfied with the amount of high quality food. Everything about this restaurant was great, the fresh flavoursome food, the professional friendly service and the unbeatable beautiful location.

Beautiful spot with amazing food! The Moussaka Croquette and Prawn Saganaki were absolutely delicious, and the slow-cooked beef cheek was incredibly soft and full of flavor. The highlight of the night was Marco’s outstanding service, he was so kind and attentive, and it’s clear he truly understands great hospitality. I’ll definitely be back!

Amazing omakase dedicated chefs and very thoughtful service. The atmosphere is amazing, with great views of the harbour. the inside is understated and gently muted, making it ideal for both slightly larger groups and romantic tetes a tetes. The fish was fresh, they served actual fresh wasabi and the selection of sake was excellent and on point. Overall, well worth the experience, on avwrage about 300 dollars per person for a sitting with a cocktail and a few sakes each.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Located on Sussex Street in Sydney, Monster Sushi & Bar is a trendy and chic spot offering impeccable Japanese dishes. The restaurant's interior is stylish and the conveyor belt serves up fresh and delicious Japanese cuisine. From Ramen to Teishoku, they offer a wide range of options prepared fresh to order. The energetic and funky atmosphere adds to the dining experience, which is conveniently located just a few blocks away from the busyness of George Street.
Delicious! A decent selection of Japanese food prepared fresh as ordered. The staff were polite and helpful and the service was relatively timely. I sampled four different dishes over lunch. The food was delicious and the presentation was excellent. We look forward to returning again. I found the prices reasonable and there's quite a range of different dishes on their menu to choose from. The location is barely a couple of blocks from the Queen Victoria Building (towards Darling Harbor direction). *We were tipped off by positive reviews elsewhere that Monster Sushi was a terrific place to eat. It would appear they were right!

I visited the Barrack Place branch and, based on my personal experience, it was one of the most disappointing and tasteless ramens I’ve ever had. The broth was watery and lacked depth, and the noodles tasted like instant ones. The tempura was cold, not fresh, and had the texture of something frozen. Overall, it didn’t feel representative of proper Japanese food at all. Definitely wouldn’t recommend as the food was not that cheap as well.
Seulki C — Google review
Really enjoyed it here, there was heaps to choose from the menu so you're bound to find something you'd like. Also various prices so you could go really cheap or really expensive depending on what you'd like to spend. It was pretty quiet in the time we went but service was on top of it all ready preparing and cooking. The waitress was very friendly and food was great. Had the house ramen which was really good value as it came with heaps of noodles, an egg, pork slices, chicken katsu, chicken karage and various types of vegetables. Also had a Californian handroll which was presented even beautiful than the photo on the menu. Rekon chips and seaweed salad as a side were also delicious. They also made aburi king fish even though it was not on the menu and fish tasted fresh and was nicely presented. Would definitely recommend and will have to come back sometime!
Erin — Google review
Really horrible Japanese food, the Uni was not fresh and smelled. Curry was watery, and the fried food was over cooked. Fried prawn only had a small prawn or shrimp inside, the rest was just bread crumbs. Beer was served with half glass of foam. Overpriced for everything as the food wasn’t prepared properly and not fresh.
Julianna — Google review
The decoration is good. Feel chill and relaxed here!! Jumbo Unagi & Tamago looks really nice😍 But personally not enjoy the taste of food here tho…feels not like freshly made🥲

Located in Sydney CBD area in Sussex St next to Meriton Suites. They have a huge range of sushi and sashimi options. I ordered sashimi, pork gyoza, unagi don which were huge and very delicious. Worth the price, we really enjoy the fantastic food here. I would come back again
Cen T — Google review
Overall is a okay place to try but food could’ve been better, one of my friends mentioned the ika and some sashimi was not fresh The fact that we need to wait for another 20 minutes after our appointment is also not very good service. However location is close to cbd and atmosphere is awesome Unagi was relatively okay but a bit pricey.. sushi tastes pretty good Chirashi bowl seems a bit plain One bite beef is tender but again a bit pricey
Wilson L — Google review
Really overpriced place for sushi and Japanese food. Some of the dishes go for around $80. The ‘large’ eel and eggroll don that has been making the rounds tastes alright for $40. But other than that, the sashimi tobiko Don didn’t quit taste like the sashimi was fresh. I wouldn’t recommend this place given that the prices for a lot of dishes were overpriced. You can get far better Japanese food elsewhere.

Nestled in the vibrant Potts Point, Kisuke is a culinary gem that opened its doors in 2020 under the expert guidance of Chef Yusuke Morita. With years of experience spanning across global kitchens from Tokyo to Amsterdam and beyond, Yusuke has crafted an intimate dining experience for just six guests at a time. This small yet exquisite restaurant offers a $200 omakase tasting menu that reflects his deep-rooted passion for authentic Japanese cuisine.
Incredible omakase experience with plenty of variety. I do prefer a more sushi-heavy omakase but could not fault any of the raw & non-raw dishes served up. Extremely intimate with only 6 diners served in one sitting. Well worth the money for a special treat. Clear your palate & savour each of the aged Toro pieces. Especially the Otoro.
Jessica D — Google review
We came here to celebrate my partner’s birthday, and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences we’ve had. It was my first time trying omakase, so I wasn’t sure what to expect—but wow. The fish was insanely fresh, and the wagyu was next-level delicious—like, melt-in-your-mouth good. I mentioned that I can’t eat spicy food, and they were super accommodating—every course was adjusted and it did not feel like a compromise. What really stood out was the couple running the place. Watching them work together just added to the charm of the night. Such a memorable meal—we will come back for sure!

This dining experience is considered average. Anyway can’t compare to authentic Japanese dining experience Market is different.Chef has experience and skills However i can’t see any creative and innovative side.my friend is a omakase lover who comments on cuisine is average as well .

Absolutely incredible omakase meal with a master chef. Every dish is crafted with attention to detail and was fresh and delicious. Menu changes depending on available ingredients, but the scampi onigiri was a personal favourite. Not just a meal, an incredible experience in a small authentic Japanese restaurant.
Matt G — Google review
Excellent omakese experience in a cosy atmosphere. Our menu was a variety of sashimi, wagyu shabu shabu, chanwamushi, unique seafood dishes, grilled fish and cheesecake with yuzu jelly. Everything was fresh and delicious. We were very full by the end. No hidden fees or surchages and drinks are reasonably priced. The pacing was also good.
Ashton C — Google review
We had a lovely experience dining here and felt welcomed by the chef and his wife. It was an intimate setting of six diners (we were in a group of four) which made it easy for us to have conversations with the chef and the group of two dining in our session. The food was thoughtfully prepared by the chef and couldn't find any fault in any of the dishes. The menu changes every 3 months according to the chef.
Michelle K — Google review
Best of the best Chef Morita is amazing! He can use different sauce for different sushi, U can try different good fish in a night. 2 people serving 6 customers. You can get the best service ever. Not expensive comparing to what you can get. We will come again! We love omakase
Kandrew L — Google review
One of the best omasake experiences in Sydney. Set in a small intimate setting. The food was amazing. Chef Morita prepares the food in front of you, explaining what each of them is. The waitress is warm and helpful with the drinks. The food!!! What can I say, it’s fresh and delicious as he chooses the ingredients that are freshest and available on the day. The highlight for me was the sushi- the tuna belly and medium tuna was melt in your mouth. Very thankful to be able to secure a booking which needs to be done 1 month in advance. Thank you for a beautiful experience

The sweetest service ever! Came with my girls and the server asked if we were celebrating anything, we said our girl just broke up and they gave us complimentary dessert! ❤️ Food was also so delicious, definitely coming back again!

We chose this restaurant for its location primarily as the previous reviews were inconsistent we were not sure what to expect. Our experience was good with a nice table overlooking Darling Harbor we found everything more than acceptable. We decided to select a number of dishes to share from the menu which we believed turned out to be a good decision. The food was of a high standard with the prawn toast, calamari and sashimi the outstanding dishes. Very nice service provided by Lara finished off an enjoyable lunchtime experience for us.

Restaurant is located in Star and the night we were there, the restaurant was not crowded despite being 7pm. The star itself was also rather quiet. Interior is tasteful and seats are comfortable with sufficient distance from the other. Nice selection of seafood and non-seafood. My favourite was the prawn toast. Exceptional. Everything else we ordered was ok. Service is friendly.
D3AR C — Google review
We had come here a year or so ago for a birthday dinner and had a great time and the food was amazing. Filled with nostalgia we came again in hopes of another great evening. As we entered and stood at the entrance way, not a single service person could be seen, I ended up waving to the bar tender in order to get someone’s attention. Eventually someone led us to a table and informed us that our waiter would tell us this evenings specials and answer any questions about the menu. We were informed that Flying Fish was under new ownership and that the menu had been overhauled with a new head chef. Known previously for its selection of seafood and the seafood platter it was disappointing to see the menu completely stripped of its most well known favourites. Instead we were presented with a paired down simpler menu which seemed to lean far away from the prior direction . Sitting for about 10-15 minutes, someone finally hurried over and asked us what we wanted, to which we were puzzled as no one had explained the specials or taken a drink order or made any contact with us. The food arrived relatively quick, although they had forgotten a side order, but this was quickly rectified upon enquiry. The food was unfortunately quite underwhelming. I ordered the blue swimmer crab spaghetti, which although cooked well, and indeed carried the crab flavour, was overall rather one dimensional and I lost interest in it after the second bite. My partner ordered the chicken with some fries on the side. Which was literally quite just that. The chicken was incredibly salty, borderline intolerable, and I’m sure the jus had more complexity behind it but the intense level of salt over shadowed any contribution it made to the dish. The fries were disappointing, dry, poorly seasoned and slightly overdone. Piled high in a small bowl with just the slightest wisp of seaweed seasoning. The starter bread had more flavour to it than the fries. After finishing our food and wanting to pay, we looked around and the 4-5 wait staff were all chatting away with one another and busying themselves with drying cutlery or clearing tables to notice us. Even when we stood and walked towards the door, no one paid any attention. It was not until we managed to tap someone on the shoulder near the exit to enquire how we should settle the bill did we make any progress. To top the night off the internet was down and they could not generate the bill, could not calculate the bill nor take payment for it. Making us leave our credit card details to charge later once they regained connection. It’s safe to say Flying Fish is not the same as it was before. A rather disappointing dinner, We won’t be returning to this venue.

Pre theatre set menus was excellent! I had a dinner before MJ, we enjoyed foods & atmosphere. It’s a great value, we will definitely come back, highly recommended!
Yumi K — Google review
The food was perfect and it was a beautiful restaurant but when we asked if they had a table and unpleasant server said no, so we checked online and there were plenty of bookings available. She was visibly uncomfortable when she realised we had gone outside and booked a table, I felt it may have had something to do with the way I look, tattooed and stretched ears. I found her attitude quite bizarre. My money is as good as anyone elses. I think she may need a reality check.
Holley K — Google review
Amazing food and service. We had oysters and cocktails and it was phenomenal. I came via the EatClub app, didn't know what I was doing, and they were kind enough to accommodate. If you are a fish lover, definitely don't miss out on this place!
Emily B — Google review
Give this place a miss. Around $100 pp, not sure how it got famous. Nothing bad about the food but similar to your local cafe or diner that charges $20. No views to speak of. Serving mains very slow, portions are small and stingy. No table cloths. No intimacy, table too big. Decor and table setting almost non existent and bland. Fine dining prices for a product that can be found at any RSL club.

Sushirio is a Japanese sushi train restaurant located in the heart of Sydney. The casual, low-lit ambiance makes it a perfect spot for families. Once the lunch service starts at 12 pm, the conveyor belt keeps serving nigiri, hand rolls, chicken karaage, donburi and more until closing time. Prices start from $3.50 per plate with an assortment of options including nigiri, gunkan, rolls, hand rolls and donburi.
Great place to socialise and eat Japanese food. The plates are filling and you could eat 10 of those between two people. I took my kids there at the beginning of the year and decided to go back to it 8 months later. Coincidentally sat at the same place with wife. Best dish I found was prawn tempura. Highly recommend the place.
Bihter A — Google review
It used to be superb value but unfortunately covid took the better of them. At $3 a plate with awesome quality, this place can’t be faulted. Unfortunately now at $3.9 for a plate and the things are clearly less fresh it becomes a harder sell. (Just look at that tuna photo…) All in all however I’m still happy to come for my sushi fix. Just that there are now better options around.
Kelvin P — Google review
Nice sushi at great value for money. Agedashi tofu highly recommended. Really delicious. FYI I’ve never been to this restaurant when it hasn’t been busy so it can be quite a wait for a seat and it gets pretty cramped in there! Still, it is lovely sushi and one of only 2 restaurants I am aware of that offers all plates at $3.50. They also offer 5% discount if you pay cash!
Sharon T — Google review
The fried oysters and the soft shell crab taco are must-order. The ice green tea latte is amazing - they’ve included 1 scoop of green tea ice-cream in it! Most of the dishes are $3.50each and it is very popular. Love their hand rolls too.
G M — Google review
This is still one of my favourite sushi trains with a flat rate of $3.50 per plate with a 5% discount when you pay cash. What I like about this place is how they make things fresh when you place an order, as opposed to finding what you ordered from the train. There is a great variety of sushi here, including nigiri, gunkan and hand rolls, plus other freshly cooked hot dishes like chicken karaage, deep fried prawns/salmon skin and kimchi pork belly soup. The place is starting to look a bit run down but if you want a variety of fresh seafood, this is the place for you!! On my most recent visit, I noticed a general over-use of the dark sweet sauce that is upsetting the balance of flavour. On top of that, the sushi rice was not as good as it used to be and some items were served straight from the fridge, my preference would be near room temperature. TIP: Always order on the console to get freshly made dishes and ask the staff for fresh wasabi.
Brian L — Google review
This is a nice place to go to if you’re not that hungry. Prices have increased a lot though, it’s $4.4 a plate, so make sure you get the good stuff. I’ve noticed that serving sizes have decreased. My favourites are spicy grilled salmon and spicy tuna.
Samantha ( — Google review
Nice little sushi outlet. Food quality is fairly average but I do appreciate the lower price/smaller portion setup so you can try 11 dishes for under $40. Staff can speak Japanese, Mandarin and English.

First time dining at Sunset Sabi and it certainly won’t be the last. Very positive dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant. This restaurant was actually recommended to me by one of the waitresses who works at the Basin in Mona Vale. Everything we ordered was sensational from the tuna and avocado sashimi, prawn toast and not to mention the tacos accompanied with the wasabi margaritas. Every dish was bursting with authentic Japanese flavours. I’m very much looking forward to coming back to Sunset Sabi and having another positive dining experience.

We dined at Sunset Sabi in Manly, and we were fortunate since we didn't have a reservation. The restaurant boasts a delightful atmosphere with seating both indoors and outdoors. The cocktails were exceptional, and we tried two from the menu. For our meal, we chose the Chef's menu, opting for the pescetarian version as we don't eat meat. I recommend this restaurant. Every dish is bursting with flavour, and the staff is incredibly friendly.

Food and cocktails were delicious! Only downside is don’t expect to be sat where you booked. Reserved a table to watch the chefs well in advance and they said they were booked out.. don’t see the point in having a booking system if you just get plonked by the bar on the high stools. Small downside to an otherwise lovely meal.

We visited Niji Sushi Bar (Kingsford) at 6 PM, on a Sunday night and thankful we made a reservation for a table as it was very busy. (Limited table seating, but they also do offer Shushi train seating) We opted for the degustation menu priced at $69.00, or $85.00 with matching wines. The Food Review: worth slightly over 3.5 stars Charred Yukari Edamame: A delightful start, seasoned well and perfectly charred. Miso Soup: A comforting classic, though I’ve certainly had better elsewhere. Kingfish Carpaccio: Thinly sliced and refreshing, this dish was good, however some diners mentioned they would have preferred thicker portions . Spicy Tuna Canapé: the combination of textures and flavours I thought was impressive but others at the table said they had experienced better. Sashimi (Salmon + Tuna): Fresh and tasty, though it didn’t quite reach the level of excitement of the previous dishes. Salmon Nori Taco: nice with good flavours Miso Cream Scallops: Unfortunately, most were overcooked and a bit dry, which was disappointing. Slipper Lobster Tempura: Fair, but I expected more; it contained only a minimal amount of Balmain Bugs- not lobster, plus we faced a 10-minute wait for the same dish for the other diners. Wagyu Kushiyaki Beef Skewers: Tender and tasty Chef's Selection of Desserts: A lovely finish to the meal, with a nice variety to enjoy. As for the Wine Pairing, the selections were good, but unfortunately, they didn’t arrive in sync with the dishes, which was frustrating. A tip for fellow diners: consider BYO wine for just $5 per person; it could save you from the wine timing woes and a dry mouth. Service: The staff were friendly and attentive, consistently refilling our water every 3-5 minutes. I just wish the matched wine service had been as timely. Overall, most dishes were enjoyable, though a few missed the mark. Niji Sushi Bar is a good choice for a casual night out, especially if you opt to bring your own wine! Just a note: there is an additional 10% surcharge for dining on Sundays. 15% on Public Holidays

Had an amazing time with a group of friends here. A booking was made for the 14 of us beforehand, seating was comfy! Food taste and quality were superb, plating and presentation had people with their phones out snapping shots for the Gram, service was attentive yet warm and friendly. A good mix of Japanese traditional and themed beverages, with cocktails that, again, had people taking photos. The duck sushi rolls was a highlight!

My family have come here dozens of times and the food has consistently been flavourful, with a menu that has great variety and wonderfully contrasting textures. Tonight I made a special request for our waitress Jess to ask the Manager Paul to greet my grandfather Tom by his name when he arrived, to lift his spirits. For my grandfather, the familiarity of remembering his face and receiving a warm welcome is the mark of an establishment he would return to again and again. They happily obliged and it left my grandfather with a smile that spoke a thousand words! Thank you Jess, Paul and the Niji team for not just providing amazing food, but a consistently accomodating & welcoming experience 😁🙏

Niji Sushi Bar in Kingsford is a standout Japanese dining spot on Anzac Parade (333), combining modern flair and traditional flavours. The menu is extensive, offering all your favourites (sushi, sashimi, tempura, robata, donburi etc.) plus some special items like wagyu steak don, crispy skin snapper and seasonal tempura. For sushi lovers there’s sushi train and a la carte ranging from nigiri & rolls to bigger “ship-big rolls” platters. Atmosphere-wise, it balances casual and stylish. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff, and it’s licensed – you can BYO wine for a corkage fee. It’s pretty popular — ranking #1 among Japanese in Kingsford on TripAdvisor. Sushi restaurant
Sushi on Stanley is a compact and casual Japanese eatery located on lively Stanley Street in Sydney. It has gained a reputation as one of the best BYO spots in the area, offering affordable combo meals, sushi rolls, and hearty udon bowls. The restaurant is known for its great value and is perfect for starting off a night of bar hopping. The menu includes sashimi, teriyaki, and more at reasonable prices. While it can get busy, takeaway options are available.
Excellent sushi! My local for over 20 years! Always outstanding and friendly service by the owner! The sushi here is simply exceptional. Every piece showcases the freshness and quality of ingredients, from buttery, melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to perfectly seasoned rice that holds each roll together. Standout dishes include: Omakase Set – A chef’s choice selection of the freshest seasonal fish, beautifully presented. Toro Nigiri – The fatty tuna is incredibly rich and delicate. Dragon Roll – A creative and flavourful roll featuring eel, avocado, and a light drizzle of eel sauce. Uni (Sea Urchin) Sushi – A must-try for seafood lovers, with a creamy and slightly sweet taste. Every dish is prepared with precision and artistry, making it a true feast for both the palate and the eyes.

We went to this place for two dinners. I was craving for Japanese teriyaki and sushi. This place is crowded during weekends and we waited for 30 minutes to get a seat. I loved the teriyaki and rice. We also tried their udon, roll and the combo menu. Everything was upto the mark and a definite yes to visit this when you are around Stanley street.

Great authentic Japanese food served by friendly and easygoing staff. Their chicken katsu is always excellent and a, generous serve, but my favourite is their beef teriyaki. The beef is finely cut and incredibly tender, and the sauce is rich and has just the right amount of sweetness. It might be my favourite umami experience ever - and that's saying something.😋 It's a must try. It's not a glamorous place, but that's part of its charm. You feel like you're tucked away in a back lane in Tokyo somewhere. Great value for money too.

Kept coming back twice to this place during my stay in Sydney. Love love their humble food served with authenticity. Staff are so nice and friendly too. Highly recommend if you are looking for genuine comfort food. Great if you going to eat alone or in groups.

Visited Sunday dinner - Food was average like local street food and was cold (chicken curry). The lady no attention to detail, we ordered sushi didn’t give us container for wasabi, served entrees without plates, and no service at all to be honest.

A restaurant with a lot of cockroaches. A restaurant where rats come out sometimes. I don't know what the Australian Food Safety Authority is doing. Don't they investigate these kinds of places? A restaurant that hasn't paid a penny of tax for over 20 years. A restaurant that doesn't even charge its employees a penny of tax. I don't know what the Australian Taxation Office is doing. Don't they investigate these kinds of places?

Great service and lovely food. Very affordable and a more authentic Japanese vibe to the place. Never been to japan but it has that vibe none the less. I imagine this is what it’s like there. I love the rustic food and you can bring your own booze. Highly recommend this place 😊❤️

Suminoya is a Japanese yakiniku restaurant located in the business district of Martin Place. It offers a unique dining experience where you can cook your food on a charcoal grill at your table. The restaurant is known for its all-you-can-eat buffet options, including the Gourmet and Premium buffets, perfect for large groups.
Suminoya Buffet is absolutely amazing! The variety of dishes is fantastic, especially the premium meats and fresh seafood. Everything is well-marinated and tastes authentic, with the perfect balance of flavors. The service is friendly and efficient, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, great for both gatherings with friends and family dinners. I especially love the quality and freshness of the ingredients – definitely worth the price. Highly recommend Suminoya for anyone looking for an excellent Japanese BBQ buffet in Sydney!

This is a fantastic choice for Japanese BBQ in Sydney. The all-you-can-eat wagyu option is incredible value for the quality of meat you get. The cuts are tender and flavourful, and cooking it yourself at the table is a fun and interactive experience.
David — Google review
We had dinner for three, choosing the Buffet at $89/person, and ended up ordering: • 3 bowls of Egg White & Seaweed Soup (very tasty!) • 500g Wagyu Beef Ribs MB9+ (super tender but a bit too fatty) • 100g Wagyu Ribeye Cap MB9+ (less fat but slightly chewy) • 100g Beef Tongue (the BEST — incredibly tender!) • King Prawn (super fresh!) We didn’t order anything else because we were already too full. Highly recommended if you want a good Japanese BBQ variety — I’ll definitely miss their beef tongue!
Rudi S — Google review
Super tasty Japanese BBQ! The wagyu is incredibly juicy and full of flavor. Amazing deal — if you book for 4+ people after 6:30pm (Mon-Thu), they even give you a free Kagoshima wagyu steak. Definitely worth it!

One of the best Japanese BBQ spots in the city! The meats are always fresh and well-marinated, especially the wagyu and beef tongue. The all-you-can-eat menu is great value, and the sashimi and sides are just as good as the BBQ. Service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere makes it perfect for gatherings. Always my go-to when craving Japanese BBQ in Sydney.

We arrived at this restaurant ahead of our reservation time. A waitress led us to our table, but the table turned out to be half of a larger setup that normally has two grills. This meant that the two of us had to share just one grill. The seating was extremely cramped as well — we could only sit at a right angle to each other, not face to face. What made it worse was the grill itself. As you can see from the photo, it was so small that it could only fit three tiny foil trays at the same time. We politely asked the waitress if we could switch to a proper table where we could sit facing each other, especially since we noticed that many nearby tables were empty at the time. However, she insisted that all tables were fully booked and refused to help us switch. When we tried to go upstairs to ask the waiter who had handled our booking, the same waitress kept making gestures toward the door behind us — as if to say, “If you don’t like it, you can leave.” When we finally spoke with the waiter, he was very impatient and told us there were no other tables available, only that cramped one. Both staff members had an extremely poor attitude. This was a very unpleasant experience, and I will never come back to this restaurant again!

Seafood market
Sydney Fish Market is a beloved institution among locals and a world-famous seafood destination. It's the second-largest seafood market globally in terms of variety, offering some of the freshest seafood in Sydney. The market features shops for seafood, deli items, wine, and baked goods, as well as casual cafes and restaurants serving fresh oysters and fish and chips.
Sydney Fish Market is a must-visit if you love seafood! The variety is amazing! everything from fresh prawns and oysters to sushi, lobster, and sashimi. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all so fresh and delicious. It does get really busy, especially around lunchtime, but that’s part of the fun and atmosphere. Prices are reasonable for the quality you’re getting, and there’s plenty of seating by the water where you can enjoy your food. Just watch out for the seagulls if you’re eating outside! Definitely worth the stop when you’re in Sydney.
Milacarlosg — Google review
must-visit for seafood lovers. 🦞🐟 The variety is incredible — from fresh oysters, lobsters, prawns, and sushi to cooked dishes like fish & chips. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced for the quality. It can get very busy, especially around lunch, but the lively atmosphere adds to the experience. Seating is available inside and outside, with a nice view of the water. Perfect place to enjoy fresh seafood in Sydney!
Alberrich — Google review
Arrived at 3.20pm and it seems like most stalls are already washing up and closing, no more cooking of seafood. Had a quick look and the seafood is indeed fresh and of high quality, however, the prices are on the high side as you can expect of a tourist spot. Got a quick bite for $5 but didn’t managed to catch anything else as it was already near closing time. Would still recommend a visit if you are in the vicinity and enjoys seafood, you choose the items, they cook for you.
Tong T — Google review
The entrance is free, do not believe what’s on Google review that says $95 on ticket section. Got plenty of good food from Multiple food vendors. Many varieties of fish, prawn and crab that you can cook at home, lots of choices but if you want to eat in the market just be careful with the seagulls, those birds love to steal people’s food but thankfully they never snach mine. What I don’t like about this market is when so many Chinese tourists come here, they don’t know the basic manner like standing on the queue or just saying “excuse me & sorry”.
Thomas C — Google review
Had an awesome time at Sydney Fish Market! The seafood was super fresh and tasty — loved the oysters, salmon, scallops, and prawns. The crab legs were amazing too! Great portions, lively vibe, and that fresh coconut drink was the perfect finish. Definitely a must-visit for seafood lovers in Sydney! 🦪🦐🐟🍋
ROWENA A — Google review
An amazing place to get a variety of seafood from raw to cooked. First up, parking can be a headache. I'd recommend going through the market first before buying from just one place. I found some places were more expensive than others and were selling the same produce. I'd definitely recommend getting sea urchin topped oysters, they're really nice!
Arz E — Google review
Plenty of fresh seafood to choose from! You can pick your seafood from the shops and they’ll cook it for you on the spot, or prepare fresh sashimi slices right in front of you. It’s a great experience for seafood lovers. Just a heads up if you sit outdoors, you’ll likely get swarmed by seagulls, so it’s best to eat indoors or take your food elsewhere.
Kuan-Yu C — Google review
Extraordinary feast for the senses for lovers of seafood. One suspects short cuts have been taken with the vast array of prepared options but can not fault the freshly cooked Lobster nor the service at Nicholas Seafood. Went back to the purchase point seeking a "doggy bag" when the size of the Lobster proved our eyes were larger than our stomaches and were asked to bring it back and they cracked and repacked for us to takeaway. Sat outside to eat and noted that the some common sense such as keeping the food covered from the view of the seagulls untill we sat down, avoided the gull stampede.

“Me so hungry" set menu. 5 stars for the value we got out of the set menu. All the seafood we got was very fresh. 12 courses in total, we were very full afterwards. We got a complimentary yuzu sake, super enjoyed it!! For $75pp, I reckon it's very hard to find another place with the same quality food. I 100% recommend this place for a nice night out. They had the bidets too!! Really appreciate the effort they put into these details.

We had a very delightful experience dining here. Each of us got the “leave it to me” set menu. The genmaicha was lovely, presentation of food was solid, and the freshness and quality of each sushi dish is worth coming back for.

[update Sept 2024] Superb value for money - long list of 4 different set menus ranging from $40pp (fewer pieces of standard sushi cuts) to $$88pp (for omakase, more premium sushi cuts). Large variety of other entree and main dishes to order a la carte - very generous servings. Maki rolls range from $15-$20, entrees $<20, mains <$30. We loved the dual miso eggplant, zucchini flower tempura, miso baked black cod, and sashimi platter @ $27 for about 13pcs. Drinks list is great - tap beer, high balls, Japanese inspired cocktails, sake and wine (not too expensive either!). Highly recommend! ******** [2019] Good variety on menu, quality fish, nice Nasu dehu but the sushi and rolls could be made better. Overall, tasty and good service.

Last nights spontaneous dinner choice @yachiyojapanesebistro in Darlinghurst. Whilst it’s not immaculate presentation, the food was nice and it isn’t crazy expensive. We had their sashimi, Balmain bug sushi, miso grilled cod (this only $22) and slow cooked wagyu! Casual dining space and beer on tap.

Amazing culinary experience. Thank you to all the chefs and cooks and staff. We sat at the kitchen bar and could watch them make the food and serve it straight to us which was great. Probably the best value omakase in town these days! Have been craving for omakase for a while, and yachiyo is never a disappointment. Went there last year with a group of friends and the experience has been amazing. Coming back again this year with another group, which turns out even better. Price point is reasonable with great value! Good with the premium omakase this time and all the sushi are super fresh and rice texture is just perfect on point! The other dishes in between prawn, abalone, oyster soup, black miso cod, zucchini flower, they match well with the flow of the course. It helps cleanse your palette but also keep you excited throughout the course. Chef micchan san is super fun as well! We had quite a bit of chat throughout the meal and stayed back for more drinks with him. His vision about omakase and the food industry is so bright which makes him proud of what he does. He is a very genuine chef which aims to bring quality food and Great experience to customers and not jsut focusing about the profit. It is hard to find omakase less than $150 in Sydney these days! Would highly recommend to anyone and can’t wait to go back !

Osaka Trading Co. is a delightful culinary gem nestled within the Tramsheds, brought to life by the talented creators of Tokyo Bird. Since its opening in September 2016, this Japanese eatery has captivated diners with its robata grill and an enticing menu that highlights fresh seafood. The atmosphere transports you straight to Japan, thanks to its authentic decor and welcoming vibe.
Had a fantastic meal. Started with karaage chicken, prawn gyoza, agadashi tofu and salmon nachos, really well done with lotus root chips. The rolls were amazing, the salmon melted in your mouth. The ginger pork was flavourful, the ramen had a nice deep tasty broth, the curry generous with sauce. Fast and friendly service.

Had a lovely dinner here, not too expensive but still such a lovely spot. Quiet and intimate, and yummy Japanese food. The vegetarian ramen was not a stand out but it still filled me up. Karage was delish!!

Always a good idea to have some ramen on a rainy night! Our first dining experience here was lovely - restaurant was chic and appealing, staff were nice and helpful and the food was above average considering the fair price relative to other Japanese restaurants. We tried the corn tempura, karaage chicken, Tantanmen ramen and the butter ramen with scallops (it was on the Chef’s special menu and was delicious!). The regular ramen dishes were priced quite reasonably, while the butter ramen special was quite steep, but I think worth the price. Just disappointed that they removed the pork belly from the menu which I had planned on ordering! But will be back for the other tasty offerings! Hopefully the sushi is good!

My husband and I had lunch here and we absolutely loved it!! We ate: - Edamame - Salmon Nachos - Soft Shell Crab Buns - Pan Fried Scallops - Tempura Corn - Brussel Sprouts - Karaage Chicken - Chocolate Nama Dessert These dishes from were absolutely stunning 😍 Not only were they beautifully presented, they all tasted divine too 🤤 The Karaage Chicken was deliciously crunchy on the outside and so tender on the inside. The Scallops were cooked to perfection and were really tasty! The Salmon Nachos were really unique and we loved them! I can't fault any of the dishes!! The dessert was just perfection too, silly smooth and light, the best way to end a meal 🙌 We also drank a Japanese Negroni and an Iced Tea. Love the decor of the venue too! First time visiting the Osaka Trading Co and my husband and I were blown away. We got a great deal via EatClub and thought it would be a great opportunity to give this place a whirl during lunch. We ordered: Drinks Highball, lime and ginger ale with Suntory Whiskey Bubble Tea with a green tea base, passionfruit and rum Food Spicy Tuna Gunkan King Prawn Nigiri Salmon Belly Nigiri Salmon Nachos Scallops Soft Shell Crab Buns Tantanmen Spicy Miso Pork Rice Bowl Our drinks were so refreshing and exactly what we wanted. I’ve never had a spiked bubble tea before so this was a real novelty! The food and drinks didn’t take long to come out. We were never left waiting for a long time although the order of the dishes didn’t come out as we expected as the sushi came out last and not first. The dishes were all beautifully presented and tasted delicious and flavoursome. The Salmon Nachos were ideal for sharing and the Scallops were to die for! The sauce on it could almost be a dessert sauce!! So delicious and beautifully cooked! The Soft Shell Crab buns had a surprisingly slight fishy taste that wasn’t too pleasant but noticeable if you paid attention. We loved the Tantanmen and Spicy Miso Pork Rice Bowl. Both were spicy and flavour bombs, making you want more. The Tantanmen was an afterthought later when we felt we could still eat a little more and just to try the ramen since we trekked all the way here. The sushi were fresh and tasty. I’d skip the king prawn next time though as there wasn’t anything about it that would make me want to reorder it. The ambience of the place was full of light and vitality during lunch. Although not a big restaurant, the service was attentive and it felt cosy and enjoyable. We’d love to return next time to try some of their other food and drinks! Thanks Osaka Trading Co!

There was no egg in my ramen! Say what?! If you want extra, you’ll need to add extra and pay on top 🤣🤣 But overall a great experience! The ramen was delicious! I ordered the tantanmen ramen! It was delicious, flavoursome, a little salty in taste & served with curly ramen! I loved the king fish sashimi. Well flavoured and fresh and delicious in taste! The bun bao was also soft, crispy and so yummy! I also ordered a passion fruit tea! Very refreshing. The service wasn’t amazing! They didn’t even bother checking on us until we had to call them over. Not so attentive! If we didn’t call them over, then they would probably just ignore us.

Wow! What a beautiful restaurant. It was such an absolute pleasure to eat at this restaurant with the beautiful authentic decorations and atmosphere. I feel like I'm in Japan! The service is above and beyond and they are so welcoming and friendly and so their absolute utmost to help you out. The seating is spacious and comfortable with large group tables, small intimate tables and bar seating available. The food was delicious and fresh although the serving sizes were a little bit on the smaller side for the price you have to pay. The lotus chips were divine and perfectly salty and crunchy! The vegetarian ramen was fresh and flavourful with a delicious broth base with tender soft noodles. My companions thoroughly enjoyed their fried chicken saying that it was crisp on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. The drinks are unique and yummy. I am very impressed with the fun bubble tea with a shot of vodka. Was a delight! The ambience is very warm and inviting with rustic brick walls and themed decor in every direction giving it a rustic yet modern and clean vibe. The projector which displays Japanese anime on the brick wall was a fun little addition which adds a bit of quirkiness to the rustic and modern looking wooden vibe. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Yebisu Bar & Grill is a laid-back izakaya-style restaurant located in the vibrant heart of China Town on Dixon Street. The food here is seriously good! Especially the curry rice—this curry goes well with pretty much anything, it’s just that bold and tasty. On cold days, the sukiyaki is my go-to. I always toss in some udon too—it soaks up all the flavor perfectly. Definitely coming back again!

I came here recently and enjoyed my meal here. Located conveniently in the heart of Chinatown, it is within walking distance from the tram, train, metro and buses. Highlights and tips for this place: - It is one the first floor and can be accessed by stairs or a small lift. - If you are a fan of gacha, this place has also loads of gacha machines. They have a token machine on the street level (in between the stairs & the lift) that accepts both cash and card. They have also another token machine on the first floor but that accepts card only. - Patrons can choose any seating they like within the restaurant. On each table, there is a QR code to place your order digitally via your mobile. Your order will then be in the queue. - When the food is ready, they will announce the food is ready for pick up. There is a dedicated counter for all food pick ups. - They have complementary sauces around the restaurant. They also have complementary water but requires staff to get it for you. - The food is really decent and well priced for the portion + quality. I liked the grilled mackerel but I think the fried chicken in egg sauce would have been more tasty. The takoyaki and gyoza were decent. Take wasabi was a bit on a smaller side but still tasted good. - A lot of the experience here is self service. Staff are friendly. - Payment is at the cashier near the entrance/ exit. They accept both cash and card. - They play pleasant music in the background and noise level is at a reasonable level for a conversation to be able to take place. - They have bathroom facilities available in the restaurant for patrons. - They have cool drawings around the restaurant and a nice vibe. I liked the decor too. Overall, a solid 4 place for me. Worth coming back again and for anyone who would like to try out.

To all my eel lovers, this is the place to be! They have this MEGA eel rice don which was honestly the answer to all my dreams. I didn’t know they even served eel this size so I am honestly shocked at how LARGE it can actually be. It was grilled really nicely and had a sweet terriyaki sauce. Highly recc. Even their other ‘mega’ dishes were so amazing and my mate absolutely devoured their curry pork katsu don (which you must get the extra cheese on).

Good food and efficient service. We spent $199 on dinner and then asked for a box for our left-overs: we were charged $1 for a container. Seems like a funny thing to do and left us feeling annoyed.

I was extremely annoyed and upset after being charged for a plain bowl of rice I didn’t eat ($4), and for a green tea ice cream that tasted bitter and unpleasant. In American dining culture, if a customer is unhappy with a dish, it’s typically taken off the bill — but this Japanese restaurant refused to do so. After the experience, I read other reviews and realized I wasn't alone in this. The customer service here was disappointing, and I will not be returning. I do not recommend this place.

Edomae Sushi Yokocho is a hidden gem in Sydney's CBD, offering an authentic and traditional Japanese sushi train experience. The intimate sushi bar provides meticulously crafted dishes made to order and served fresh on the train, showcasing a focus on traditional Edomae-style sushi. Using the finest locally sourced ingredients, their expert chefs prepare each dish with precision.
Edomae Sushi Yokocho is the kind of CBD spot that wins you over by doing the simple things immaculately. Slip in off George Street and you are met by a compact room, a neat sushi counter, and the clean, toasty scent of fresh nori. Service is quick to greet without hovering, which makes it just as comfortable for a solo perch at the bar as it is for a small group grabbing dinner after work. Fish quality speaks for itself. The nigiri set landed with a gentle shine on the cuts and that telltale brush of soy already applied, so there is no dunking required. Tuna was silky, salmon buttery without excess fat, and the kingfish had that subtle crunch you only get when it is truly fresh. Scallop was sweet and cool against warm rice, and the tamago finished things with a soft custard bounce. Rice is the quiet hero here. The grains stay distinct, seasoning leans balanced rather than sharp, and the temperature sits right in the pocket so the neta does the talking. From the sides, a hand roll wrapped to order keeps its snap, and miso arrives piping hot with a proper umami backbone. If you are hungry, a chirashi bowl is generous with no filler, and the tempura comes pale and crisp instead of heavy. Drinks skew sensible, with cold beer, a couple of sakes, and roasted green tea that pairs neatly with richer bites. Prices feel fair for the quality, and lunch sets look like a smart way to cover ground quickly. Turnaround is efficient without feeling rushed. Staff notice when tea needs topping, happily point out daily specials, and handle small requests with a smile. If you want straight up, well executed sushi in the middle of the city, this place delivers exactly that, and does it with quiet confidence.

The freshness of the sushi was okay, but from the customer's seat, we could see that the sushi chef's workspace was not very clean. My partner and I also work at a sushi train restaurant , that why we paying special attention to how other sushi places working. The serving speed was average, with a waiting time of about 10 minutes. The sushi rice had a good flavor, but some pieces fell apart when picked up.

Have so many selections especially the fish range like flathead, trevally, sweet prawns, spanner crabs, shark fin, and even fugu fish? I thinking how they got the fugu fish?? I mean mostly in sushi restaurant only serve kingfish, salmon, and tuna, but this place got many fish options!!! Also everything looks fresh!

Great casual sushi in Sydney. Generally pretty fresh and even has puffer fish! Service from ordering to serve was pretty quick. Just be prepared to sit in a pretty tight space.

So yum 😋 Sushi was great and I think it's worth the price. Def recommend both of the foie gras hand rolls There was an unusual customer sitting next to me, who kept making things difficult for the staff but I think the staff handled their requests well, with how rude that customer sounded the entire time before I left ✨

This is the only conveyor sushi I always come to. I really love the engawa here it’s my favorite. It’s fresh, clean, and delicious, with absolutely no fishy smell .

Just okay not great. The fish wasn't fresh and had a fishy smell. I had expectations for delicious sushi, but was disappointed with the quality. 🥲

Good fresh sushi. Friendly staff, but since it is a sushi train, there won't be much service from staff to be expected. All black plates are $4.6, and there are a great selection of black plate sushi.

Buffet restaurant
Okami Japanese Restaurant has made a delightful entrance into Sydney, expanding its presence from Melbourne with numerous locations to choose from. This beloved eatery is renowned for its authentic all-you-can-eat experience, featuring an extensive menu that includes sushi, sashimi, karaage chicken, and agedashi tofu. Diners can relish in the joy of unlimited dining within a generous two-hour timeframe.
UPDATE 2ND VISIT: If I could rate this place six stars I would. No joke I’ve never come to Okami for lunch without the buffet and I can say it was a surprisingly enjoyable experience. What blew me away more so was that the manager remembered my family and I the last time we visited. This attention to detail made me feel extra valued as a customer and seriously made the overall dining experience even better. 1ST VISIT: If you’re on the hunt for the best Japanese buffet in Sydney, Okami in Marrickville is hands-down the winner. My family and I have tried countless Japanese buffets over the years, but we always find ourselves coming back to Okami—it’s not only the best we’ve had, but also holds a special place in our hearts as our first introduction to Japanese buffet dining! What sets Okami apart is how they’ve only gotten better with time. We’ve visited over the years, and the quality of the food and service has noticeably levelled up. Everything is made fresh to order—no food sitting under heat lamps or losing its flavour after hours on a buffet line. Every dish we ordered—from the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to the perfectly grilled beef yakiniku—was served hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. And then there’s the service. The team was attentive and efficient, but the real highlight was the manager on duty the night we visited. They went above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was smooth, enjoyable, and memorable. It’s rare to feel that genuinely cared for in a busy restaurant setting, but they absolutely nailed it. From unlimited sushi to sizzling teriyaki, and the clean, welcoming atmosphere to the consistently friendly staff, Okami Marrickville delivers a culinary experience that keeps us coming back. If you’re craving authentic Japanese flavours in an all-you-can-eat setting, do yourself a favour and book a table here. It’s worth every dollar and then some. We’ll definitely be back again—and again!
John C — Google review
My friend and I had a fun and enjoyable dinner at Okami. We came on a busy Friday night and opted to have the all-you-can eat ($42.80 per person). For this, you scan the QR code on your table and order as much on the menu as you would like. Waiters then bring each dish to you. There was so much choice! We really enjoyed the sushi. We also ordered a lot of steak dishes. The meat was good, well cooked and not fatty. Each dish was presented well, too. The restaurant was full and busy, yet staff took care in preparing each plate and making sure it looked good. Service was excellent. It was efficient, helpful, friendly, and courteous. Staff were working really hard. The restaurant is only open for dinner. I would recommend booking in advance. And save room for dessert. That was good, too!

Great experience for what it is! This is a buffet-style restaurant where you order everything through an iPad, which makes it really easy and convenient. Don’t come expecting 5-star gourmet dishes, but for a casual, all-you-can-eat setup, the food was actually quite good and hit the spot. The atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends or family—relaxed, informal, and enjoyable. The staff were attentive and helpful throughout, and we even got a few surprise gifts since we were celebrating some birthdays, which was a really nice touch. Overall, a fun and satisfying place if you're looking for good value, variety, and a social dining experience.

Went for my teenage son’s birthday and had a fabulous time. Had the all you can eat buffet. Service was prompt & generally excellent. The miso and teriyaki beef were delicious. I loved the beef carpaccio. I also enjoyed the mushroom salad. I found the food a fraction over seasoned. I went with my elderly parents for the celebration and just wanted to call out the thoughtfulness of the staff who moved us to an accessible table, helped where they could- thank you!!
P L — Google review
We tried the All You Can Eat (AYCE) menu, drinks were separate. While the overall experience was enjoyable, the selection of sashimi and fresh seafood was a bit limited. As I recall, sashimi wasn’t available on its own, so it had to be ordered as part of a nigiri set. The dessert was definitely a highlight. I had to ask for another matcha ice creams and fish cakes :) Service was great, friendly and attentive staffs. Overall, a decent experience, but I would love to see more variety, especially for sashimi lovers.
Sosweetmai_ — Google review
The food is great. Most of them come out fast enough but we didn't get a few that we ordered, maybe went to the wrong table? As you ordered online, you just don't know if the order went through. We went on a Saturday afternoon 5pm, it was good at the start when there weren't many people but by 6pm, the room was so packed and very noisy. Feel sorry for some of the staffs, they were so stress out. They really did their best. Over all, it's a good experience. If you want to eat that much, $39.80 is worth it.
Julian T — Google review
1st experience was amazing. Food is divine, drinks were cold. When myself and my family went there wasn't a spare seat in the house. I only gave 4 stars for service only because we didn't like that the staff didn't take the empty plates when they were finished and we got more. Other than that. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We had all you can eat and it was $244 for 5 people. I wish I took a photo of every plate we ordered. But we couldn't resist it. It looked soo good.
Aimee T — Google review
Decent value for money if you have a good appetite (as with all buffets) but felt the food wasn’t as great as what I was expecting from other photos. Service was relatively fast and they tailor your serving size based on your table which is great if you want a try a bit if everything. Only bummer was the cap on dessert - only allowed one of each dessert item per person.

Banchō is a cocktail and whiskey bar located in Haymarket, Sydney. It is brought to you by the team behind Tokyo Bird and offers a refreshing cocktail list featuring the standout Murasaki. The bar boasts high ceilings and a warehouse-style space, providing an entirely different vibe compared to its sister establishment. Banchō offers some of the most coveted Japanese and international whisky brands, with drinks inspired by Sydney's Chinatown cultural diversity.
Lovely atmosphere with the nicest staff. The bar is hidden in an alleyway and is truly a hidden gem! We ordered the Dragon Tears ($23) and the Sake Watermelon Highball ($12). The Dragon Tears was very unique and you could truly taste the jasmine tea. The Highball was also quite delicious and refreshing. Will be back!

You walk in this place and you can tell it’s authentic. It’s the type of place where you enjoy a drink with a small group have a good chat and just enjoy the scenery. My friends and I enjoyed the fantastic drinks and played cards. The staff is friendly and so well dressed. I will definitely be coming back here with a date or friends from out of town. Not my first time being there but the last experience was horrible, I ordered whisky highball, not fizzy at all, the whole tank of soda must be super flat, spoke to the staff, they came back with the same drink and filled more flat soda, made the drink even more tasteless. All other cocktails that my friends orders are still ok but the whole experience was kind of disappointing because of the flat soda and fake services.

The Boathouse is a seafood restaurant overlooking Blackwattle Bay in Glebe. The menu features fresh shellfish from around Australia, and the views are worth a visit on their own. The executive chef also offers a seasonal menu with favourites such as the snapper pie.
Every dish we ordered was delicious! The wait staff were very courteous, friendly and helpful despite the current world climate. Get out there and keep supporting your favourite restaurants but don’t forget social distancing yourself too. 🙏🏼💙

We went here on Valentine’s Day. The food was ok. The prawns were tasty and fish was well cooked. It’s just nothing to write home about. The chips were terrible, very dry. Pie presentation was poor and although it was tasty, it came with weird accompaniments. Staff were not great and it was obvious they needed our table sooner rather than later. I get it is Valentine’s Day it was just a little bit of a shame. Also the atmosphere is a bit pretentious. Maybe it’s just not our cup of tea, check it out for yourself, I just don’t get the hype to be honest.

Best oyster selection in Sydney! Perfect for lunch. What a contrast to our lunch at Flying Fish last week! The restaurant has a warm and welcome atmosphere. The wait staff were attentive and interested. Amazing oyster selection with the oysters being freshly shucked. The swordfish main was very tasty. Octopus entree lacked a bit of flavour. Peach sorbet rounded out the meal. Good selection of wines by glass. Will be back again.
M C — Google review
Great service and beautiful views. The pie was the unquestionable highlight for us, although we slso really liked the oysters and banana souflé. The octopus could have been a bit more tender perhaps. Came here on a Fork promo and will definitely return.

Make a reservation for an early dinner and watch the sun set as you dine. The kingfish sashimi starter is gorgeous, and the oysters are very fresh (the bread was too tough and chewy and not to my liking). The snapper pie is the best dish, we knew we would want to share one each. Pairing this with the John dory makes for a massive meal. The chips are the best I've had, prices are not unreasonable for the food and location.

Review: 5*! Location: Beautiful secluded spot, not surrounded by restaurants & offering you harbour views, Anzac Bridge & the city skyline. Beware of the stairs... lol Service: Great service, understated, not in your face but very helpful. Busy restaurant, recommend booking in advance. Decor: Warehouse conversion surrounded by floor to ceiling glass window doors, open kitchen area & 240’ degree views of the city & harbour. Atmosphere: Buzzing restaurant with no live or audio music. But there were no echo’s from other peoples chit chatter because our visual senses were enhanced. Bathrooms: Nice bathrooms, really nice big mirror, bathroom stalls were on the small side though. Value for money: Very pricey but worth it for a special occasion (Starters: $27-$29 & Mains: $40-$48) Drinks: Very big comprehensive wine list. good drinks menu with cocktails & mocktails. The Raspberry Blonde was sensational. Food: Superlative Oyster menu! Braised Lamb Brisket: Sensational taste & would have as a main meal for sure!!! :) AAA+++ Lamb Rump: Fantastically cooked to perfection. Sashimi: To die for. Melt in your mouth. The best Sashimi Kayleen has ever eaten. King Prawns from Clarence River were dinosaur size, amazing sauce with Tarragon! :) Snapper Pie: Smoked tomato with mash potato. Spectacular, would definitely go back for it & ordered because of the previous good reviews. Dessert: For special occasions, you can pre-order a cake which is made in-house. Good selection available. Coconut Dacquoise: White chocolate mousse & vanilla sponge with semi dried strawberries coated with toasted coconut. Synopsis: Fantastic selection of seafood courses available to connoisseur on ;)
UPVC A — Google review
We came here out of curiosity for it being a hatted restaurant. The menu is 95% seafood, so if you’re not into seafood, probably try elsewhere. My favourite of all the dishes we tried was the signature Snapper Pie, creamy pot full of snapper fillet inside buttery pastry cover. Oyster connoisseurs would probably like it too, because they have so many options from different regions (not me unfortunately). If you want tasting menu, remember to book in advance, otherwise they only do a la carte. Service is good, although on a weekend evening it might sometimes take a bit of effort to catch the staff’s attention. It was my partner’s Dad’s birthday so they organised a little sweet surprise that the whole table can share (as a replacement for the cake that we can’t BYO, no wine BYO either). I guess the waterfront view is the most outstanding wow factor of this place. For the price point, I’ve had a better experience elsewhere to be honest, or perhaps we had unrealistic expectations?

This place is one of the best fine dining experiences in Sydney. Top view, top service and top food. It's always a little tricky coming here with your own car and it's best to take a taxi or uber it due to limited parking space. Their signature fish pie is always delicious including the amazing selection of oysters.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Ks Sushi is an enduring sushi restaurant in Burwood, showcasing modern Japanese cuisine with a conveyor belt sushi train. The sleek fit-out reflects the quality of the dishes served, with options to start with recommendations from the chefs. Families are always welcome at Ks Sushi and there’s even high chairs for the little ones!
Love their variety, especially for the creative rolls. My fave is Volcano Roll. Grilled Scallops Nigiri & Very Hot Salmon Ship are tasty too. They also do great Karaage Don (they also have spicy version!), with an option of 1/2 size as well. Ramen was just ok (as I prefer ramen from ramen specialty restaurants). Reasonably priced & ordered food came out pretty quickly.
Tastysydney — Google review
Very disappointed! Rocked up on Sunday night around 6.45pm with my 8yo kids. The food was pretty good (except the ice cream with a cheap poor quality wafer biscuit and frozen strawberries!!! please not frozen fruit served!) Unfortunately the service was not good enough. Train almost empty (what’s the point to visit a sushi train if you need to order everything a la carte?!) and slow slow slow service! At least 10 min for every single dish… Nope 👎
Marco P — Google review
It was great. Love the variety and it has plenty of kids foods like chicken and beef. My second time, it already feels like the best sushi train for kids , give it a try very good.😁🍣🍱
Stacey C — Google review
We had a very good impression and experience in here. Food was very nice. Sushi was so fresh. Ramen will be 3/5. And the price was great. Only thing I would like to give 4 star so hopefully they can improve is the lighting in the restaurant. I passed it almost everyday and I tried all other sushi shops because it was very dark if you look at it from outside. I hope they can decor bit more yellow cozy lightning to make the restaurant brighter and more attractive. We barely find some lights inside to take good photos as well. Yellow light will be better than white light I suppose. All other things are great. One more thing I love from it was they open without breaks so I could dine in even at 4pm.
Hermione L — Google review
It's definitely not the best sushi train but I always return because it's still decent and more affordable than most sushi trains. The fish is of acceptable quality and the plates are still quite tasty. Also not the most authentic, way too much cream cheese on several plates which cream cheese does NOT belong in sushi 🥶 idk why that's even a thing. Burwood severely lacks Japanese options so this does the job for now
LJ L — Google review
K’s Sushi food is really nice. They don’t seem to have as many varieties on the train as they used to before like tempura or fried chicken however you can order these. They just celebrated 21 years in business so must be doing ok. Friendly staff and overall a nice family friendly place. Suggest you phone to reserve seats as the queue can be long at times.
Nelson L — Google review
Another option for sushi train type in Sydney. I came in at around 5pm on a Friday and it wasn’t that busy. We got ourselves the seats on the belt table and started digging in. They have a range of sushi, nigiri and other hot foods available for order in the menu. Sushi is good but didn’t like the salmon that much. Seems a bit cold but at least there wasn’t any weird taste to it. Cheap price ranging from $3.5 to $9.0 per plate and we paid $30 for 2ppl which was quite nice.
Trang L — Google review
K’s Sushie is located a few stores from the famous ice Kiran bar. My first impression of the restaurant wasn’t exciting, but the food wasn’t bad either. The layout of the restaurant consists of a few tables that seat up to 12 people and the rest around the sushi train with a maximum capacity of 30 people. The interior is simple with hardly any Japanese decor compared to other Japanese restaurants with bamboo interiors. The only thing I enjoyed was sitting around the train with the chefs in front me and seeing how sushi is made was quite entertaining. The menu actually has a lot to offer but by order only. Don’t expect to see everything from the menu appear on the train because you won’t! Surprisingly the train was quite empty and the chef was unable to keep up with the demand as more customers started coming through the doors. Also ordered sushi rolls took a very long time to be served👎. The positives for K’s sushi were the quality, freshness and price of each dish. I don’t think you’ll find a cheaper sushi train around in Burwood 👍🏻 that taste good and affordable.

Choji Yakiniku is a top-notch Japanese BBQ restaurant located in Chatswood, Sydney. The establishment offers a wide range of high-quality cuts including Wagyu, Ox Tongue, Chicken, and Pork for DIY grilling at your table. The menu is conveniently accessible via wireless ordering from an iPad with detailed illustrations. Additionally, the restaurant provides a broad selection of beer, sake, and wine or allows BYO with a corkage fee.
Very good Yakiniku with good quality fresh meat, the ox tongue was fabulous and I truly enjoyed the salmon salad. The cold soba is very refreshing on a hot summer night, and the dipping sauce was perfect. The onsen egg is slippery and smooth, great to go with your freshly cooked beef. I like that they have options for leaner cuts of beef too for people who don't necessarily want cuts that are dripping in fat. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They are quite strict on seating time so be mindful of that
June C — Google review
I arrived around 5:30 for an early dinner, and it was nice that there weren’t many people so I could be seated right away. The meat was incredibly fresh, especially loved the marinade—it wasn’t too salty or sweet, just perfectly balanced and delicious. I also ordered some vegetables, which were fresh and very tasty. The hamburger steak portion was a bit on the smaller side, but it was tender and flavorful. Definitely a place I’d like to come back to!

Underrated Yakiniku in Sydney. The quality of the meats they serve are top notch. The price is okay, I wish they include 1 or 2 free sides. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, it brought us back to Japan!

Japanese BBQ restaurant located further away from the centre of Chatswood. We didn't have a booking and walked in but were seated at the counter. The food was really good. Great cuts of meats available including some cuts imported from Japan. These cuts are very fatty so I wouldn't recommend eating too many of them. The tongue cuts were very delicious and try out the different style was fun. The textures were quite different between the tongues. Service was quick and easy. Order via ipad and food came out quick. Beware of Sunday surcharge and cc surcharge. Overall decent food on pricey side but was good.

Cocktail bar
Sake Restaurant & Bar Manly is a contemporary Japanese dining spot with a sake bar, creative banquet menus, and an array of cocktails. Located on Manly Wharf, it offers various dining experiences such as enjoying ocean views on the terrace, sitting at the sushi counter, or opting for a private dining room. The menu features a la carte options, banquet menus, and omakase dining where the chef curates your meal.
Beautiful iconic Manly view. We had an outside verandah table on a lovely Sydney summer day. Excellent service. Many delicious Japanese delights to choose from the menu. We decided on 4 dishes to share between 3 of us. Portion sizes were ideal. The food did not disappoint, everything was delicious, delicate, tasty, beautifully presented. Girls lunch, all of us in hospitality, we rated it a 10/10. Thank you.

Heads up, bit of a long chat coming up. Wonderful staff who explained the menu well, were friendly and attentive. Viewing the Manly harbour, even on a gloomy day, makes a lovely setting. Time is needed to peruse the large menu, with such great variety. The open kitchen adds great atmosphere. Signature Cocktails are truly that & yummo New Style Sashimi, melt in your mouth, flavoured with chilli. Prawn Shumai steamed, soft to bite and generous tasty portions. Pacific Oysters then Spider Maki, both fresh and delicious. Roasted scallop is pieces of scallop mixed with rice, served with a hot mayo sauce- just Yum. Nasty Dengaku, tempura eggplant. A generous serve of creamy cubes- more Yum. Dinners on the next table messed with the pleasant atmosphere. Loud, know it all on every topic and offensive language, all before the bottle of red was opened. I include this issue, as I want to publicly thank management for acknowledging the impact of this poor behaviour.

Our group of six dined at Sake (Manly), and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxed, perfect for a group gathering. Their menu offers a great selection of gluten-free options, making it an easy choice for those with dietary needs (me!). The food was beautifully presented and full of flavor—everything from the fresh sashimi to the perfectly grilled meats was top-notch. But the real highlight? The desserts! The service was friendly and attentive, and the waterfront location added to the overall charm.

This restaurant is a bit romantic#Restaurant recommendation The presentation is pleasing to the eye, the ingredients are fresh, the service is elegant, the environment is comfortable, and the taste may be improved to be more westernized. It is worth trying, especially for people like me who don’t care whether it is authentic or not as long as it looks good and tastes good. Romantic food is also my label for this restaurant. It is located in Manly Wharf and you can go to the beach for a romantic time.

I have booked this place based on recommendation from friends. Attended dinner with SO and were seated immediately (booking made online prior). It was on level 1 so it had a good view of manly wharf if you are seated near the glass windows or in the balcony. We opted for the set menu and food was overall great. The seafood was fresh and the flavours complemented each other. We found it a bit difficult to eat the cooked salmon fillet with chopsticks, it was about flimsy to do. But otherwise the rest of the food were easy to eat. The serving size was just right. We had enough room for dessert which we upgraded to the dragon egg, which I think is a must try if you like chocolate / caramel. The cocktails were IMO a bit overpriced but were nice. The restaurant was clean and had an open and bright ambience. The wait staff who served us was friendly and helpful. Timing of food delivery was great. Not too long to wait and also not too fast that you feel full too quickly. I recommend this restaurant for an upscale Japanese food experience with a great view and will definitely be happy to dine here again in the future.

I’ve been to Sake in Manly a couple of times now, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it each visit. The location has a great atmosphere, and the staff are always super friendly and welcoming. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the lobster platter, popcorn shrimp, miso toothfish, lobster roll, sushi roll, salmon tacos, beef tacos, Moreton Bay bug, edamame, and prawn dumplings – so we had heaps of food. The bill came to around $650, but to be fair, if we hadn’t ordered the lobster platter (which was $250 and felt a bit unnecessary), we would have been more than fine with everything else. The platter was nice, with oysters, sashimi, and lobster, but peeling my own prawns wasn’t ideal. Next time, I’d skip it and just stick to the starters and mains – my standouts were the popcorn shrimp, miso toothfish, and Moreton Bay bug. Parking was quite expensive – I paid around $69 for parking underneath, although I was there for a while. Overall, a fantastic spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner, though the bathrooms could use a little attention.

Great location and lovely setting for lunch or dinner. Staff were great - friendly, attentive and helpful. Food was delicious. The karage chicken was the only dish that was a little disappointing for us, but I am sure that is just personal choice. The spicy tuna roll was delicious, the salmon tacos, pork gyosa and brussel sprouts were also really good.

Nestled behind a striking sliding door, Kuon Omakase offers an intimate dining experience that revolves around the artistry of its chef's station. With executive chef Kideaki Fukada at the helm, guests are treated to a dynamic menu featuring over 20 courses that change regularly, showcasing an eclectic mix of flavors and presentations. The ambiance is sleek and modern, creating a perfect backdrop for this culinary journey through Japan.
Came here for dinner with a reservation and had the standard omakase course. This is probably the first omakase I had which has chawanmushi as the first dish and it was luxurious with plenty of ingredients; very tasty. This was followed by sashimi, steamed abalone, tempura, grilled toothfish, sushi course, and finally dessert. They also have the premium option which includes several extra dishes but I find the standard one very satisfying. Highlight was the chawanmushi, zucchini flower tempura filled with snow crab mornay, Hokkaido sea urchin and sea eel sushi. The chefs and staffs were friendly and attentive, explaining each dish that is being served.

We had a wonderful family dinner at Kuon Omakase and every one of us was very impressed. Each course was beautifully presented and full of delicate flavors, with amazing attention to detail. The atmosphere felt special yet comfortable, and the service was warm and attentive throughout the evening. It was such an enjoyable experience, and we are already looking forward to coming back again. Highly recommended!

Dining at Kuon Omakase was nothing short of extraordinary. From start to finish, the experience was a celebration of authenticity and craftsmanship. Each piece of sushi was an artwork in itself, showcasing the freshest ingredients and meticulous attention to detail. The balance of flavors and textures in every bite was impeccableThe intimate setting and the chef’s dedication to their craft created an atmosphere that felt both personal and elevated. For anyone seeking an authentic omakase experience, Kuon is an absolute must.

Incredible dinner! The beginning dish was so good and each dish just kept getting better. Best dinner I’ve ate in my life. Would 100% recommend for special occasions. You could taste the freshness of the fish and the chef was very friendly with a good pace

This was truly the best omakase experience I’ve ever had. Every single course was absolutely delicious, but the mushi awabi especially blew me away — it was tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Chef Yul Kim was not only incredibly skilled, but also kind, witty, and clearly passionate about his craft. You can really feel the love and care he puts into every dish. I left with a full heart and an even fuller stomach. I can’t wait to come back!

I had a truly wonderful experience at Kuon Omakase. The restaurant is small and cosy, yet elegant, creating the perfect atmosphere for an intimate dining experience. From the moment I was seated, I was warmly welcomed by the staff and chefs, which made the whole evening feel personal and special. The omakase menu was outstanding—each course beautifully presented and crafted with care. The flavours were delicate yet memorable, showcasing the freshness and quality of every ingredient. Watching the chefs prepare each dish right in front of you adds another layer of appreciation to the experience. The food was absolutely to die for, and the attention to detail in both service and presentation made it an unforgettable evening.

Amazing dinner for my birthday, did not disappoint. We got the normal omakase and it was excellent, didn’t feel we missed out at all by not going for the premium menu. Highly recommend!

Kuon Omakase is an absolute gem! The food is not only delicious but also incredibly fresh, showcasing the highest quality ingredients. Every dish is a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. I love the attention to detail and the passion that shines through in every bite. Japanese restaurant
Simulation Senpai is a Japanese restaurant located in Darling Square, Sydney, known for its high-quality sushi and sashimi. The chef, Chase Kojima, is a culinary expert with multiple awards to his name. Despite its food court setting, the restaurant offers above-average Japanese dishes that prioritize flavor over ambiance. Customers have praised the fresh sashimi and well-cooked miso cod, although some noted that the dining area could be cleaner.
My regular place to visit once a week! 😈I will never get sick of Hoseki Bako, it’s too pretty and tasty. You can seriously taste the freshness of the ocean👍🏻 Respect the creativity and all the efforts Chef Chase Kojima contributes to the store, totally can feel it from every bite I had. 💜
Martina T — Google review
Good quality takeaway Japanese food. Was pleasantly surprised how fresh the seafood tasted. The dining in feels like food court eating. The price is on the high end given there is minimal table service and portion size is not large, it was still a good experience overall
IS L — Google review
I could eat this every day! The sashimi was very fresh and the miso cod was cooked well and was very tasty. Great presentation too. I think the setting/food court style dining took away from the experience a little as the tables were not the cleanest and we were seated in a dim-lit area. Having said that though, I'd still go back because the food was delicious.
El A — Google review
Above average quality Japanese dishes at a modern food court setting. I am a flavour first person. I will happily eat in food courts, Asia road side stalls, as long as the food is worth the visit. Restaurant dressing takes a back seat. If you share the same thinking, then you might like Stimulation Senpai, serving really good Japanese dishes inside The Exchange, Darling Quarters. You order at the counter, take a number, find a table and the food will be delivered to your table, sometimes in takeaway containers. The food looks and taste Amazing! Inaniwa $29 - the udon looks translucent with a smooth texture, "springy", and the dipping broth (very different to the usual soy-based dipping sauce), is very rich and beefy (wagyu), the oxtail, melt-in-the-mouth. I wish I had ordered extra udon. And if you are only familiar with the thicker, coarser kind of udon, then you might want to try this version - from the Akita Prefecture, and considered a regional best dish. Saikyo miso cod $38 - the glacier 51 toothfish, a premium fish, is firm and sweet, served on a bed of flavoured premium grade sushi rice with pops of ikura (salmon roe). For me, the star is the rice. Have you ever heard of the saying that the rice is the foundation of the best kind sushi. Well, the rice here, Emi no Kizuna, is simply marvellous. I can still remember the flavour of each fat, individual grain. Yes, the prices may be high for a food court setting, but for me, the quality of the produce and presentation of the dishes are worth every cent.
Ming — Google review
Everything looked pretty and the flavour was good, but by the time the plating for each 'bako' was done, the food had already become cold. Only outstander was the "Zenbu" sashimi, but that was mostly because of the quality of the tuna. Seating comfort was not good. Felt like i was sitting on a $10 kmart camping chair in a fine dining establishment.. which is something that doesn't really match well together. Also old school hip hop music and a ptsd inducing movie (Monster House) were being played at the same time while we were eating: the casual ambience of the restaurant felt out of place and didn't heighten, nor act as a prelude to the dining experience at all. Overrated and expensive for what you get (spent around $140 just for the ekiben, sashimi, and unagi) and wasn't remotely full at the end. Could have it for better and much cheaper in Japan, so save your money unless you really wanna splurge on some Japanese food or gram some pretty food.
Kelvin — Google review
Visited 3 times recently. For a bento place they are pricey, 30+ bucks for one small portion bento, tho the quality and flavour is good. Tried Unagi Don, Miso Cod Don and Salmon Sashimi Box, and I think sashimi box is the best for a lunch takeaway. The other two are interesting but not too outstanding.
Rulo — Google review
I like pretty food. Who doesn’t. But I like the taste better. It’s food after all. We tried simulation senpai in darling square. Has heard about its reputation. I had salmon rice. The salmon was very ordinary. I really like the rice tho, very tasty Japanese rice. Same with the eel unagi. I guess the rice was the star in the dishes we had. I need to mentioned that the sake paddle is a good bargain. Around $12 for 3 glasses. One should order it accompanied the food. The food is quite pricey. The salmon costs about $35.
Lena A — Google review
Omg where to begin? The first taste of the Luxury Chirashi transported me back to Tsukiji market in Tokyo. So fresh and so good! It's over way too soon. My only complaint is that I'm not high rollah enough to eat here more often! The price to serving size ratio is definitely skewed to those not short of cash. But you do get what you're willing to pay for.

Japanese restaurant
Yoshii’s Omakase is an iconic Japanese dining experience in Sydney, led by master chef Yoshii Ryuichi. The restaurant offers contemporary Japanese cuisine served in Kaiseki style, with small portions of various dishes. Located at Crown Sydney, this exclusive 10-seater dining experience comes with a minimum spend of $350 per person but promises pristine seafood and a top-notch sushi procession.
Yoshii Omakase Experience the pinnacle of food craftsmanship. Every dish is a masterpiece, showcasing not only the finest ingredients but also an unwavering commitment to quality in service. After several visits, I am continually blown away by the expertise of the two master chefs, who transform each meal into a delightful culinary journey. Their exceptional creations consistently leave a lasting impression, making every dining experience truly remarkable..
Le D — Google review
Yoshii’s attention to detail and the care he put into each course truly made the evening unforgettable. However the server ruined the whole fine dining experience when we saw her way in clearing the table - Putting the chopsticks paper band into the bowl in front of me & my mom while clearing may seem like an innocent time-saver, but it’s frowned upon in fine dining. Instead, remove the trash individually and put it on a tray out of direct sight.
Vivian L — Google review
Made a reservation for the omakase which is located in a private room at the entrance to Nobu. The course included about ten pieces of sushi, a beautifully arranged plate of sashimi representing the current seasonality, and several other dishes. All the seafood used in the omakase were very fresh and was especially noticeable when tasting the sashimi. The Kagoshima wagyu was perfectly cooked, very tender and marbled with no gristle at all. Each piece of nigiri sushi was delicious and satisfying; some of the highlights includes the squid which was texturally unique to the bite due to how it was cut, the fatty kamatoro tuna which comes in only a small quantity from the collar, the fresh and smooth Hokkaido sea urchin, the soft and sweet pearl meat which is said to be superior to scallop, and the fluffy sea eel drizzled with chef Yoshii's 32 years old concentrated sweet soy sauce. The egg omelette was also very unique and tasty; the top and bottom layer has a sponge cake texture and the centre was like a creamy scramble egg which is barely holding it's shape. Overall it was a great dining experience, food wise as well as the friendly and attentive service from the staff as well as the chef's interactions with every customer.
Barry — Google review
This was the best omakase experience I’ve ever had. I’ve tried Michelin-starred omakase restaurants in Japan, but this was even better! They use the freshest ingredients from Tasmania and rice imported from Japan. The fish was cut and presented with perfect precision, and the rice had just the right texture, it was truly a work of art. I was genuinely impressed by the chefs’ skill, dedication, and sense of pride. I’d love to come back, if I can manage to get a reservation. It’s not easy to book!

Had a great omakase experience! Each dish was full of flavour and beautifully put together, and the chef’s joy made the whole evening really fun and memorable

Been a while since I last visited Yoshii-San and came this time to celebrate a friend's birthday. The room feels secluded - it is quiet and spacious. Staff was friendly overall, but did lack some consistency across the guest. Food wise, in general was spot on. Some dishes were slightly smaller than before, however the techniques are displayed in the dishes. The signature is quite consistent and there's a nice balance of flavour in each of the dishes. Produce is fresh and combines both local and imported ingredients. The tamagoyaki is still my favourite and the big mac, squid and pearl meat were on point. One of the best omakase in Sydney. Recommend you to try 😋😋👌
So M — Google review
We had an exceptional time. The restaurant perfectly balanced warm and friendly hospitality with perfectly timed service. The selection of dishes served highlighted the quality of produce and the chef's expertise. As there are only 10 seats everyone eats the same dish at the same time creating a very harmonious dining experience.
Tia M — Google review
Every dish was good (oh that dashi) but the highlight was definitely the sushi - granted they had the best ingredients, but everything was so meticulously thought out and prepared that even the most ordinary fish (say bonito) tasted incredible. It was interesting watching the chefs prepare the nigiris, but more importantly they were willing to go to some lengths to explain how things were prepared (what they did to bring out the umami), which helped you appreciate the food more - be sure to ask any questions you might have. Thanks so much Hyota-san and Yoshii-san for a great night, hope to see you again next season. Update after the second visit: I had my reservations cancelled twice due to the lockdowns and completely missed out the winter season. However one big advantage of Yoshii's is that they have a big enough budget to import fish from the other side of the world (yes, Japan) when it's summer and the produce is not as good in Australia. As to the food of the night, I felt the courses that came before the nigiris got even more refined - the smoothness introduced by the pumpkin to the chawanmushi, the texture and flavours of the egg yolk, uni and dashi combined - you just couldn't fault anything at all.

Authentic Japanese restaurant
Sushi Oe in Sydney offers an intimate and exclusive omakase experience with only six guests per sitting. Chef Toshihiko Oe presents a 30+ course degustation heavily featuring carefully selected and crafted sushi, with the menu changing for each sitting. The restaurant is known for its top-notch quality, warm and welcoming chef who shares insights about each course, and a focus on raw fish and sushi classics done exceptionally well.
Classic, elegant, and sophistication under simple presentation. The whole dinning experience lasted for 3+hrs with Oe-san as the only chef behind the counter and scene. Very sincere and intimate dinning experience filled with a range of impeccable treats from ocean. BTW…considering getting a reservation as winning a lottery may mentally ease the process…

Unforgettable experience with the great sushi master Toshihiko Oe. I felt so lucky😉 He serves 5 days a week for only 6 seats a day. There are rules to go there, if you can find a seat, read them and dont eat anything that day🥢 it will be a 23 (maybe 26🙈i stopped counting somewhere) course dining journey. Chef knows what he is doing, it was really magical watching him making nigiri by his hands. Don't look for an ambians or something special about the room. Ambiance is Toshihiko. Very very special dining, only can find in Japan. And i wanna talk about that rice, like hours. Did you know that Japanese chefs trained rice for 3 years to become a master. Anyway, for this place; do it if you can.
Ayşe Ö — Google review
Its booking system is an absolute joke! Been trying to get a reservation for 6 for 2 years now but to no avail. You can play hard to get/book, we have decided to take our tummies and $$$$ elsewhere where its customer experience is easy, logical and transparent from the minute I make a reservation on/offline. Don’t recall getting a table at Tetsuya was this painful then. Better off getting on a plane to Japan for authentic food and friendly service.

✨TLDR: Price wise.. It’s reasonable, standard for Sydney omakases. $250pp. Everything was fresh & I can appreciate the craft and skills from chef Oe ✨ Dishes include oyster, tuna, spanner crab, lobster miso, bonito, whiting, cuttlefish, unagi & abalone (didn’t note down everything) 🍣 Menu is focused on raw fish and sushi. Classics done well - no faults in it 👍🏻 but different preferences for everyone. Worth to try once if you’re an omakase lover - it’s a famous one in Sydney! If you’re bothered trying to score a booking every month… 👉🏼 Follow their instagram to find out their reservation dates (once a month) 👉🏼You’ll need to text your preferred dates, name and the number of people in your party at 1PM exactly 👉🏼Tip is book for Tuesday, more likely to get it I reckon ‼️HACK: I set up an automation on my iPhone to send a text exactly at 1PM automatically. If you’d want me to go through it you can DM me @kellyfeasts

Super hard to get a booking but when you do it's almost better than winning lotto. An intimate omakase evening with a maximum of 6 people. The owner/chef prepares most things in front of the diners. A great variety of seafood. All freshly obtained from the Sydney fish market on the same morning (origins include Newcastle, New Zealand, Japan). All 26 courses were wow upon wow. My most memorable are the lobster head miso soup (amazing umami!), the torched unagi wrapped in seaweed from Japan, and the dish that kicked it all off, crab and crab brain mix. The sake recommended was also fantastic as it complimented 99% of the dishes served. A must for food lovers, but if you fail to obtain a reservation, try and try again. Persistence will eventually pay off.

Currently one of the best omakase experience in Sydney. Huge selection of differwnt tuna cuts and variety of fresh ingredients picked daily. Chef was very friendly and explain lot of detail of dishes served. The meal took more than 3 hours but I enjoyed every moments watching fish being sliced and nigiri being shaped. It is not cheap but more than fair among similar restaurants in Sydney. Definitely worth the time and money.

Amazing Omakase! So many dishes and food that was exceptional. Chef Oe took the time to explain each dish and was friendly and great to chat too throughout the night. Well worth the effort in trying to get a booking
