Nui Hostel & Bar Lounge is a trendy accommodation housed in a former toy warehouse, now transformed into an open and comfortable space for international travelers and locals. The interior features handmade wooden furniture and specialty coffee, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Located in the Kuramae area alongside the Sumida River, this highly-rated hostel offers not only cozy lodging but also a popular cafe on its first floor.
Friendly staff and nice, clean rooms. It's in a pretty great location too, just a 30 minute walk to Akihabara so if you're a super nerd like me you'll love that, though your wallet might suffer a little. Genuinely lovely place.
Tyler A — Google review
Stayed at Nui as a home base for exploring Tokyo for 10 days! Super close to Kuramae train station/Asakusa line and a grocery store, super clean and comfy rooms, and a really kind and helpful staff! The cafe in the lobby is also quite good, and serves up tasty coffee and food as well as cocktails at night. Recommend the espresso tonic and the bar master makes a brilliant old fashioned. My time at Nui was lovely, and it was the perfect place to call home in between excursions to Shimokita and other neighborhoods!
Lawrence G — Google review
It being a hostel attached to a cafe/bar would make you think it's got some makeshift setup, but it is anything but. It's weird to use luxury to describe a hostel but Nui definitely is more luxurious than any hostel I've seen. It also appears to be very good for socializing, since the bar was always filled with people (though I didn't personally hang out there much).
Michael Z — Google review
I am honestly sooooooo happy with this place!!! It might be my favourite hostel I’ve ever stayed in. I stayed in an 8 bed female dorm which was spacious enough for everyone’s luggage. There are lockers in the room, you get a free towel and padlock. Everyone in the room was incredibly quiet and respectful. The female only bathrooms were soooo good and well thought out !!! Immaculately clean, loads of room in the shower cubicles for clothes and hanging things. Theres some free cotton pads in there too. They even had a small bath which was incredible after a long day of walking. The common room was so cozy and completely stocked with everything you’d need to cook. Such a nice vibe. Downstairs there’s a cafe/bar which has such a nice atmosphere too. The staff are all so wonderful, friendly, cool and helpful. The only downside is that you have to make your own bed which is a bit of a pain after a long travel day lol. I honestly would live in this hostel. 10/10.
Isobel H — Google review
Nui is probably one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. In terms of service, cleanliness and quietness for a hostel. The bar/cafe downstairs was warm and welcoming with friendly staff. The rooms and bathrooms were always serviced and clean. I would highly reccomend this stay.
Lyndal P — Google review
Had an amazing stay at Nui Hostel! The location is super convenient, close to major attractions and well connected to the airport via subway. The staff were absolutely fantastic, super friendly and helpful. I also loved the great food and relaxed vibe. Highly recommend this place and I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in Tokyo!
Riccardo L — Google review
The location is very convenient next to the metro and supermarkets. Dorms are spacious and shared bathrooms are clean. Could have been a toilet more but I understand limited space. P.s. Had a small issue and they solved it nicely in the end 😊 Arigato for that!
Ben D — Google review
Excellent espresso coffee, delicious cakes and healthy, western-style light lunches. The staff speak very good English. Lovely, peaceful space. Part of a hostel which looks really cool too.

CITAN is a trendy hostel with functional dorms and rooms, featuring a cafe, bar, and guest kitchen. It is managed by the same team behind Toco and Nui guesthouses, known for their excellence in the Tokyo guesthouse scene. CITAN offers affordability, comfort, meticulous design, and great dining options all in one place. The standout features include a stylish cafe and co-working areas that transform into a restaurant-bar at night.
It’s near the station and has a Lawson convenience near it. The common areas and bathrooms are clean. There is a washing area for only ¥300. It’s a good place for solo travelers. Thankfully, I had very respectful roommates who observed silence and cleanliness. I stayed in an all-girl room.
Twentysomethings P — Google review
The staff were always very helpful, and they provided just about everything I needed for a comfortable stay. They also have good food available whenever I didn't want to go searching for it. Additionally, the location was ideal, it is right in the middle of Tokyo and is near to a subway station and currency exchange. I felt relieved that I could come back after each exhausting day, assured that I would have a shower and some privacy.
Bryce K — Google review
Private room is honestly perfect. An affordable option for those who appreciate being around other travellers but still want privacy. Good coffe and friendly staff. Only downside is the washing machine is old and a bit stinky. Also they didn’t change our sheets, we stayed for 8 nights (probably would’ve done it if we asked).
Byron R — Google review
Loved my stay at CITAN Hostel. The atmosphere was modern yet cozy, with a great social vibe downstairs at the café and bar. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The location near Ningyocho Station made getting around super convenient. Only small downside was some loud roommates, but overall a great experience — would definitely stay again.
Joshua H — Google review
One of the best hostels I ve ever been to, definitely going there again. Great staff, great social activities, very clean and well air conditioned. Bathrooms are very nice as well, even shampoo and soap provided. They have all the facilities you might need. Just great! Only thing is it's a bit far away from the "party area" in Tokyo but with a bike it's like 20 minutes
Jad M — Google review
this hostel is amazing the rooms are clean and tidy the lockers are easy too use and the staff are incredibly friendly. the location is great but after the last train at midnight it can be difficult to get back without spending money on a taxi however before midnight it’s great 20mins from shinjuku and 30 from shibuya
Tarrin M — Google review
I loved the place but in my opinion they can invest a bit more in making it a bit more comfortable. If you get the bunk bed with like air vents on top you’re screwed because I’m 157 cm and it was uncomfortable. So imagine a tall guy European or American trying to stand up on the bed or sit impossible. The place is good they have a bar down but def super hard to have a social vibe which is mostly Japan. If you’re doing your plan go in and out great. Use Hostelworld chat to make friends but don’t stay there to hang out is like jot the best place. But affordable and you pay the price for what you get
Manuela B — Google review
Amazing! great rooms, comfy beds, its a quiet, awesome location, the staff is super nice too! the only cons is that there are metallic beds so its pretty loud and the lock system was a bit tough, I would 100% stay there again though!

Imano Tokyo Hostel/Cafe&Bar Shinjuku is a laid-back accommodation option located within 10 minutes from Shinjuku Station. It caters to backpackers and offers various activities such as theme parties and happy hour, making it an ideal choice for young travelers looking to socialize. The hostel provides dormitories with curtains, bed lights, and plug outlets, as well as private rooms suitable for families or groups of friends.
Staff are super nice, they all speak fluent English. The check-in, check-out process is easy. I was worrying about the luggage problem because the review before saying that the hostel don't have the luggage storing service, but during my visit this time they do allow you to put your luggage at first floor temporarily before check-in or after check-out. So there's no need to concern about it. They offer shampoo, conditioner and body wash in shower room, but you need to prepare your own towel and toothbrush. (You can also buy it at the front desk) The room is simple and clean. I saw some people would think the soundproofing was bad, but I think it depends on the roommates and the other people you shared the same floor. During my four nights stay there, I was lucky enough to have a quite time at nights. The only inconvenience I found is the size of the room. The aisle is pretty narrow, and you won't be able to fully open your luggage. You have to pack your thing in the public space outside of the room or on your own bad. But other things are just really good. The location is great. (At least 3 convenient store within 100 meters) and it's really close to Shinjuku station. The price is also really good. Totally foreigner friendly. Definitely recommend.
Parmeseancheese — Google review
If you don't know what to expect from a hostel, this is probably not going to be your first choice. However, if you are traveling on a budget and don't mind sharing a room with up to 5 other people, then this is a fairly nice place. Very friendly staff, beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, and amenities are decent. Community area on each floor, Cafe on main floor, separate floors for men and women. Not alot of spots if you need to charge multiple items, but there are areas. We didn't stay overnight as 2 in our group of 5 didn't like not being able to stay together. But from what I did see and experience, it's a good place to stay, especially if you are on a budget.
Audria G — Google review
A good breakfast. The beds were exceptional for a Japanese hostel. (Vertical instead of horizontal was the only complaint , but it was an important one for me). The beds were very soft. The hostel was very good about security, but the lock changed the layout of the numbers after every use, which was very annoying) The common room on each floor was great. They were very opposed to sexual hanky panky, which surprised me. I saw a couple get chewed out for showering together which amused me. The laundry facilities were very good and cheap.
Steven D — Google review
Four of us were supposed to stay for three nights, we checked in at 7 pm and we checked right back out around 9 pm. I’ve stayed at hostels before but was not expecting this. The staff was friendly but the pictures online make the room appear bigger than they are. The room is so narrow the only ideal luggage to bring is a backpack or a small carry on. The room was warm and it didn’t smell good. Told the staff we would not be returning and they were friendly about it - no questions were asked. They told me no refund which was expected but for not staying being out $500+ sucks especially since we paid that amount when we arrived which was only two hours of staying there. We found another sleeping accommodation elsewhere.
Vinida O — Google review
Tonight is my last night here at Imano Tokyo Hostel. It feels like a good hotel with excellent amenities and service. I'm very satisfied and I recommend this place. It's worth every penny you pay for the stay. Do add breakfast when you book. 👌👍👍
Faiz R — Google review
The staff may know more english than many if the other places but that just means you can understand them being blunt and rude. The rooms don't smell nice, The shoe 'locker' doesn't have locks. There is no secure luggage storage unless you pay extra for a small box that wouldn't fit my gear (I am travelling light). The AC clicked constantly making it impossible to concentrate, Someone was snoring loudly I my dorm, The beds were not made, and on the top bunks that is difficult to deal with. I paid for the breakfast service and was given a redeemable card but it was not honoured because I was a minute late getting to the cafe. The place is a hole. I had a reservation for 2 nights but I booked another hotel after realising the state of the place. If you are on a budget and desperately need a place for the night keep your belongings close, but general advice would be pick a different hostel
Kol T — Google review
Shittiest hostel ever stayed in. They dont even give you a made up bed. You have to make your own bed. They even charge for towels. Rude staff & 0 consideration. Overcharge for everything. Paid around 6000 yen per night. Absolutely not worth it
Bhavesh K — Google review
I stayed in the hostel for a week as a solo traveler. pros - great location near Shinjuku station, showers were pretty convenient, curtains in the dorms, reception. cons - no much room for luggage great value for money, I would recommend my friends to stay there.

UNPLAN Kagurazaka is a contemporary hostel with an industrial-chic cafe/bar and a shared kitchenette. Conveniently located in the center of Tokyo, it offers easy access to various attractions in the city. The accommodation options range from female-only dorms to private suites, catering to different guest preferences. The stylish interior creates a sophisticated ambiance, and the hostel provides amenities such as bicycle rental, free Wi-Fi, luggage storage, a terrace, and a lift.
Wow. My first hostel experience and the best. They were happy to hold my luggage early, before check-in. Then, when I arrived back late, there was a guest working downstairs and he energetically jumped up to help when I had questions. Thank you kind stranger! The mixed dorm room had noise makers (people will inevitably come in at midnight when you stay in a hostel), and space beside each bunk for bags. The breakfast was simple with bagels, granola, yogurt, hot water for tea, and coffee and was exactly what I wanted. The cafe space is open to the public and there is a great social atmosphere here. You will need to book early as this place fills up quickly and it's no surprise why.
Anna G — Google review
Short stay in women’s dorm It was a comfortable stay. One of the better and cleaner hostels I’ve been in. The bed and pillow were comfy and I like the capsule because you can put stuff along the sides which you don’t always get with bunk beds. It was very hot one night so I think temperature control may be an issue. My light in my capsule was not working the best and even after the fix it would take some time to turn it on (had to click it repeatedly). They also do not turn off the room lights but I don’t mind because the capsule is dark enough to sleep. Though it is a lot of beds in one room I never had to wait for the shower and there were two toilets that a separate from the dorm. It is close to Kagurazaka station and with a checked luggage it was not the worst walk though it is on a bit of a slope. There are many amazing cafes and crepe places nearby and the neighborhood feels a lot quieter and local. I preferred this as it is my second visit to Tokyo and I stayed in Ginza the first time. Commute wise if you are traveling to other popular neighborhoods it will be 20-40 min. The cafe is also popular and serves good food and you can get a discount on the sauna if you want to use it.
Caro W — Google review
I’m writing about the cafe, not the hotel. I have been coming here for about 5 years and really liked it. But unfortunately I don’t think I’ll come here so often anymore. They changed the system so the app is no longer in use, so I lost all the points and benefits I’d acquired. They also changed the menu (it was much better before. I didn’t enjoy the new salad) and the price (got more expensive, and lunch set doesn’t include drink anymore. And the amount of food decreased). I was a regular here (almost every week) but probably won’t come very often now. I feel quite let down as a regular customer. Perhaps their target now is tourists rather than regular customers. Its disappointing. The staff are nice.

Without a doubt, this is where you should stay in Tokyo!! It’s charming, has great staff, and wonderful rooms!! - Location: one of the highlights is the location. It’s in Kagurazaka which is a charming, and low-key part of Tokyo. Tons of amazing food and shopping. Plus Kagurazaka station is a 2 minute walk away. Pharmacies, and ATMs/convenience stores are also right down the street. It’s the perfect location. Rooms: this was one of the largest rooms I had while in Japan. I booked the private room with balcony. It had plenty of storage, and the balcony had a view of the sky tree. The bed was extremely comfortable! Bathroom was a bit small (no tub), but still very nice. Amenities: the toiletries line used by Unplan are lovely! There is a coin laundry facility (very cheap) on the second floor. There’s a cafe in the lobby, they also sell beer and some other beverages at the lobby. Staff: the staff at Unplan Kagurazaka is incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming! They’re very helpful. Shoutout to Manisha, she was super friendly!! Overall I loved Unplan Kagurazaka and if I ever come back to Tokyo it would be where I stay.
NYsam15 — Google review
Great hostel in general with a great cafe, but only a 3 star and my least favorite hostel this far in Tokyo due to having pretty much no functional locker. At most it fits an ipad and a wallet, not even a laptop. The capsules have enough space to install a larger locker box, so I think it would be a good investment. Would be 5 stars with a bigger locker box If it wasn't for my own locks I brought, I would have felt very uncomfortable leaving my things behind.
Indradb — Google review
I am writing this review for the café, not the hotel. I placed a takeout order and briefly stepped away, only to be chased down by the cashier, who raised their voice at me in front of everyone, making it appear as though I had stolen something. They told me I had taken the wrong order—even though they were the ones who handed it to me. I immediately went back inside and offered to pay for the incorrect item (a tea that wasn’t part of my order), but they told me it wasn’t necessary. However, when I arrived home, I discovered that my entire order was incorrect. This experience was embarrassing and frustrating, and I hope the café improves its customer service and order accuracy.
Marcos V — Google review
The dorm was clean and the bathrooms were pretty spotless! Didn’t have much interaction with the receptionists because I didn’t need to. Close to the station and there’s a 7/11 close by.

A wonderful little hostel in the quiet suburb of kagurazaka, very centred to young travellers. a lot of things about this place were wonderful. The staff who went above and beyond for us from: • taking our brekkie orders early to allow us to catch the bus to our next location • sharing a japan-wide vegan restaurant list to us (which we have used our entire trip), • Helping us figure out the rental bikes • shipping us our lost items to our new hostel. The hostel itself which included: • An electronically locked women's only room • A common room with necessities (stove, pan, rice cooker, microwave, fridge, coffee, tea, oil) • 🌱vegan/vegetarian brekkie meal options- Unlimited continental brekkie (yoghurt, coffee, orange juice) • Free hostel group tours and events which included food • A solo sauna They offer lots of free amenitites- unlimited shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cream, cotton pads, one free towel, bike hire until 7pm, free candy downstairs. The location was a quiet neighbourhood but public transport such as the 61 bus and Kagurazaka station were close by, so we could reach the tourist spots we needed to explore. A special thanks to Julija, who gave us the vegan menu which saved us throughout the whole trip; and Sho, who helped us patiently with our bike rental and shipped my lost items to Osaka for me! Check in and check out was easy and food everyday was delicious. Would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a quiet and comfortable stay

UNPLAN Shinjuku is a trendy hostel located in the vibrant neighborhood of Shinjuku. The hostel offers streamlined and clean accommodations with a self-service concept, making it convenient for introverted travelers. It's situated close to Shinjuku and other nearby stations, providing easy access to transportation. The social atmosphere at the hostel makes it perfect for solo travelers looking to meet new people and enjoy daily events organized by the friendly staff.
Social without being a messy party hostel. Super clean, quiet, and private bunks without being claustrophobic. Loved the Saturday walking tour - Glenda offers amazing photography at a really really affordable price! The pictures are definitely making it onto my dating profiles lol. Only ding: a little far from the station. It was brutal during the heat wave.

Very cool place. Check-in is simple and user friendly, the staff help if needed. Theres laundry and a common room attached to a kitchen with a fridge. Breakfast is generic and lovely. Our experience of the rooms how ever weren’t as advertised. If you happen to get 5A be prepared to only have room to turn around. For the price we paid if we would have known this was our room we would have looked elsewhere.
Danica S — Google review
Super social, awesome hostel. Never had a night with no one to hang out with. Some nights the bar is quiet, others it picks up. Good amenities, solid sleeping quarters. Never had to wait for a shower. Will absolutely come back
Mythmaker — Google review
I made it a point to stay here because I wanted to meet people. I read a review that said “you will meet your people” here and it was totally true! I made some amazing friends and after traveling solo it was just what I needed. A free drink ticket for happy hour is included in your stay, and I feel like this was the only “social” aspect of the hostel. Keep in mind it is HUGE, about 5-6 floors with tons of people of all ages traveling through. One thing I would have really liked is some sort of organized activity other than drinking. Showers were hot, and rooms surprisingly quiet given the number of beds. I enjoyed hanging out on the rooftop as well. Conveniently located right across from a 7/11 where you can get all your kombini favs.

Great place! Really enjoyed my stay here and I was there for over 2 weeks. I think the upstairs is a bit under developed, they could make it a cooler hanging spot and the breakfast is a bit meh, but those are my only 2 caveats. All staff members were super friendly, specially Nicolas, such a cool dude; really made me and many others feel welcomed at the place.

Very central location in Shinjuku, just an 8-minute walk from the metro. You can easily explore Shinjuku on foot from here. The hostel was well-designed and functional, with plenty of common spaces. The beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms and toilets were separate and always clean. There were also designated areas for doing makeup and self-care, with hair styling tools available. Breakfast was buffet-style and quite filling. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in the common area, which made it difficult for remote work. The workspace setup wasn’t ideal for digital nomads. Also, the rooms didn’t have enough space to store backpacks or luggage properly.

Stayed here for 2 weeks in the mixed dormitory room and it is very clean. Metro is very close by and there are lots of places to explore by foot from here. Breakfast downstairs complete with bar in the evening. Staff is very helpful and kind. I would recommend anyone to stay here and I will be staying here again when I come back to Japan.

So much for helpful staff... I had been told by the evening staff that people who are not staying in the hotel could buy breakfast, so I got up early before work to stop for breakfast... I was told no, and now I have an hour until work and nowhere to go because everywhere else is closed at this time. Maybe staff should learn their own rules.

Great Location by Ueno Station. We stayed here back in 2023 for our first family vacation, nothing was wrong then & it was awesome, we wanted to come back in the future & stay here again. This time we went in April of this year, but only stayed for 1 night since the place was booked out. Horrible experience this year. Found a pair of socks from the past guest hidden in my sheets & ended up getting bed bug bites all over my legs, feet and stomach. Traumatizing. After leaving my room to complain to reception, I found the housekeeping staff sitting in the hallway texting & playing on their phones. My bed was the only one not professionally cleaned, compared to the other 3 beds in the room. Reported both the housekeeping staff & the bites. They took pictures of my bitten feet & reimbursed me for the night. I’m glad they took my bites serious but I hope they train that housekeeping staff better. Will be forever traumatized & never staying at this hotel ever again.

Great little hotel / hostel, a stone's throw from Ueno (station / park / you name it), which in itself is single train trip on the skyliner. Tight but efficiently spaced rooms, some with direct views of the ueon train tracks - which the kids will LOVE. Great little bar in the foyer to enjoy an drink while waiting for check in / before or after a night on the town. Rooms have heaps of charging points for all your gadgets. Friendly staff who allowed us to check in an hour early to get hot and tired kids up into a nice cool room!
Jimmy M — Google review
This hostel gets great public relations, but it’s a terrible place to stay. There are no stairs. The elevator is super slow. You can’t open any windows. The rooms are small and smells like fit. The people at their reception were rude and very non-Japanese behavior. I paid for three nights, but left after the first night because I couldn’t sleep there mainly because of the smell. When I told the receptionist about it, there was zero empathy from his side. Needless to say that I was not offered any compensation.
Eran B — Google review
Overrated, room smelled like feet, dirt under mattress. Staff was kind enough for the most part. Good location, lots to see in the area. Kombini and restaurants a plenty. No smoking area, no vending machines. Towels aren’t included and are extra which is a bit ridiculous. Rooms have an awkward layout for the bunks and mattresses are thin and firm (I love me a shikibuton but these were pushing it a bit). You can find cheaper places to stay with more amenities that are far cleaner and more comfortable in Tokyo though so I wouldn’t recommend nor will I be returning. No bed bugs this stay thank the lord.
Michael S — Google review
My bedsheets weren’t clean upon arrival, see picture . However, I am really positive about everything else. The cabins are super private with the curtains and they stop all light from coming in. The bathrooms were also clean. They offer free water and even sanitary item, soaps are also provided in the showers. A station is nearby with lines to reach everywhere in Tokyo. I’d really recommend this place and would come back!
Laura — Google review
The location is really convenient. It’s near Ueno station and if you looking for convenient store, there is a family mart nearby.
Jitrapha P — Google review
Very easy to access location near Ueno park, probably 100 meters walking distance from the north most exit from Ueno station. Room was tiny but highly functional. We had 4 people, 2 adult and 2 kids. We got a room with two futon and a bunker bed. It’s a good choice for young travelers I think. Pretty functional for traveling families. I think it’s a good trade off. After all, there are so many things to do in Tokyo, for hotel, you largely need a place to sleep. The air conditioning is a bit weak for winter month with subzero temperatures. The AC needs to be on all the time to keep the room reasonably warm.

This social hostel has a great atmosphere and comfortable beds. The staff are knowledgeable about the local area and can recommend good places to eat. The hostel is also close to several tourist hotspots.
This is your classic fun, affordable hostel with great staff. Is it the cleanest? Well, no, but that's not what folks are here for. The staff are wonderful, fun people. Mostly college students with solid English. The group outings on Tuesdays and Thursdays are fantastic. It's a cramped little place with a great social atmosphere. A free drink at 6PM every day and a well-stocked bar. People talk to each other and end up hanging out. You'll meet people from all over the world who can tell you about the must-dos in the area. Everyone was respectful enough about not being loud when coming in late. This is a great, fun hostel, run by fun people. If that excites you, and you're not looking for just a cheap hotel, you'll love this place. These guys are part of the reason why we're determined to spend more time in Tokyo than planned for this trip. Wish them all the best. 3 stars for food, only because there is no food, not that they advertise any. Not sure why Google even asks.
Nathaniel D — Google review
Honestly not sure why the reviews are so good. You are paying for the social aspect of this place and not much else. If you are a clean freak do not come here. Showers got black mole galore. Nothings been deep cleaned in years. Walls between beds are paper thin pieces of wood so can you absolutely hear everything. Layers of dust caked around. There is one lonely fork for the whole hostel to share. The location is decent not amazing. I really wanted to like this place but there’s just better out there. The staff are quite nice. I think 2/5 is a pretty fair score
Alex — Google review
It's a hostel so expect hostel amenities. But the atmosphere is really good and the hosts are really friendly and will happily answer any questions that you might have. If you stay there, you get one free beer a night. Word of warning, the stairs to reach your room are quite narrow and steep so if you have heavy luggage it's going to be a bit of a pain.
Cosmin B — Google review
One of the most social hostels I’ve ever stayed at. As a solo traveler, it’s super easy to meet people and find others to do activities with. The atmosphere is friendly and open, so you never feel alone. Whether it’s joining group outings, hanging out in the common areas, or just chatting over breakfast, there’s always someone around to connect with.
Jannes S — Google review
Having a social atmosphere doesn't mean the hostel should be in the state it's in. The showers are disgusting, we had to make our own beds, no locks on the doors, and it looks like the last time someone cleaned was about a decade ago. For the price, you can still find hostels that are just as social and have better amenities and service, don't trust the 5 star reviews.
Manuel C — Google review
amenities are super nice, you get one free drink at the bar, which is great if you are a tourist or it’s your first time in Japan, the beds all come with charging stations and a flat wooden area where you can also store things, there’s also a woman only floor, which I personally found very nice and awesome. The location is not too good
N N — Google review
This is a great place for people traveling to Tokyo. Affordable accommodation, excellent facilities, amazing staff, clean and well maintained building. A lot of people drop by so you've got opportunity to meet new people. The bar is an amazing place to hangout and the bartenders are amazing! I made really nice friends here. Would recommend this place to everyone!

Great bar and Great hostel ever Very clean and everything is organized A few years ago, there’re so many ppl from other country like me. It was great as well. but lately most customer is Japanese. If you like to have a conversation or spend time with them, it’s great time to visit. Grab a beer and have a nice chat with Japanese makes me feel great and good on my Japanese skill. Japanese-style business hotel
The Millennials Shibuya is a trendy capsule hotel located in the heart of Tokyo's bustling shopping district, Shibuya. The modern dorms offer a unique experience with iPod room keys that control lighting, bed settings, and alarm clocks. Some floors feature pod walls designed by local artists, adding to the funky atmosphere. The hotel provides affordable capsule-style sleeping arrangements with comfortable beds and storage areas. Its central location allows guests to easily explore the city's attractions while enjoying complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi.
I highly recommend this place as a luxury hostel option. I spent a week here, and it was so good. It is definitely quite pricey compared to the other hostel options, but totally worth it. The beds are super comfortable, and private. Showers and toilets are clean. And the location is amazing! The free beer hour every night is great for meeting people, and makes it very easy to find plans for the evening! Thanks for having me!
Aiden H — Google review
The good part: the location is very handy. Walking distance to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. The vibe is great at the kitchen area. Free hot drink and free beer hour. The bed is comfortable and spacious. The area for luggage is great too. The bathroom and shower are clean too. There is a phone to control the lights and bed, as well as alarm. The bad part: on my second night, I was woken up by some one at 3:30am:(
A K — Google review
This is hands-down the best place to stay around Shibuya at the ~70 €/night mark. Considering the location, the amenities, and all the items provided free of charge 24/7, nothing really beats it. If you’re a foreigner staying less than a week and want to explore the surrounding area, this is the place to book—100%. You can tell it was built with real enthusiasm and great attention to detail, from hygiene to practicality. They clean and disinfect daily, and an air filter runs constantly, so the air quality is exceptional. Showers are spotless and modern, and the toilets are the most advanced I’ve seen in Japan: self-opening, flushing, cleaning with soap, plus all the usual high-tech features. Everything works, and supplies are always restocked. A small tip: don’t bring too much luggage. The capsules have surprisingly high capacity, but it can feel cramped if you try to manage too many items. I’m a very skeptical and critical person, but everything I checked in this hotel made me think: “Hmm, that makes sense. This is really well done.” Ignore the 1-star reviews. They’re either from people who didn’t use common sense or who skipped the 2-minute intro video. For this price—especially in an area where rent soars above 2,000 €/month and hotels often start at 150 €/night—this place is an absolute steal.
Balazs — Google review
The Millennials Shibuya is one of the most stylish and innovative places to stay in Tokyo. The concept of smart “pod” rooms is amazing—each capsule is clean, modern, and surprisingly spacious. You can control the lighting, bed position, and even the alarm with an iPod, which makes the stay both fun and convenient. The location is perfect, just a short walk from Shibuya Station and all the famous spots like Shibuya Crossing and Center Gai. The common area is beautifully designed, offering a relaxing space to work, read, or meet other travelers. Free beer during happy hour is a nice touch too! The staff are friendly, professional, and speak great English. Everything feels safe, comfortable, and well-maintained. It’s the perfect mix of style, comfort, and technology—definitely one of the best capsule hotel experiences in Tokyo!
Syauban A — Google review
I really like the design concept of this place: modern, convenience, but you still get the privacy. The bed is very comfortable, the temperature was ok. There is a small vent on the ceiling but I'd prefer is to be a bit cooler. I noticed that people mentioned that they were waken up at night due to noise, but I slept likea baby!!! They do provide earplugs if needed right when you walk out of the elevator. The common area where you can meet people. There is also a working space. I had to take a call during my vacation and the working space was great. It's definitely on the pricier side but it worth it.
Ngoc D — Google review
Any one who is travelling solo and love meeting new people then this place is a good to place, Everyone i met was soo cool. I made few friends for lifetime. im soo glad I chose this place. I usually never write the reviews. But this place and the people made me feel good about me. Breakfast was OK but I would still rate them 5 star
Bhavesh S — Google review
Really cool capsule hotel. Very organized and clean. Staff were friendly and engaging. Would stay again. Showers and bathroom were spotless. Mixed gender and single gender floors available. Breakfast was tasty and had both fruit, pastries, eggs and sausages. I really liked the availability of hot drinks like matcha coffee were included in my stay in their 24 hr lounge area. Free luggage storage for the next day was very helpful as well.
Rebecca R — Google review
The place is very nice to stay as international guest. Good community options. But, minus some stars for the arbitrary pricing of the rooms between different websites and also different hours of the same day on the same website. Sometimes you cannot book a capsule without breakfast, sometimes you are able to choose. Be sure to monitor the pricing in advance to get a bit of a feeling for it. I was getting offered price differences of up to 40% on the same website (booking.com) on the same day for a planned stay of 5 nights including one Friday to Saturday. I booked on very short notice, so that might have contributed.

Imano Tokyo Ginza Hostel is a laid-back accommodation offering simple dorms and private rooms. It features a hip cafe and a shared kitchen, making it an ideal choice for city-centric enthusiasts. Nestled near the bustling Tsukiji Market, the hostel provides comfortable beds with good privacy and spaciousness. The staff are known for being helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. Additionally, there's a large socializing space with a bar on the second floor.
Loved the beds in this hostel the most out of all of the ones I stayed in while in Japan. Fully blocks out light and feels really private. Location is very central. I left something in the hostel and Haruka was SO helpful in getting it back for me. Seriously thankful for her!
Alexis L — Google review
Great location and nice staff but sharing one shower among the 3 dorms on our floor was difficult. As all the other reviews said, they charge extra for towels, etc. I saw a sign saying Imano will be permanently closing in April 2025.
Patrick D — Google review
The people who work here are extremely careless, unprofessional and have poor communication. If you are planning a trip and are looking for a place to stay, I would advise staying somewhere else rather than attempting to book with their highly irregular and unreliable website. Even if you call, it's probably best to not trust the information that you have been given. I have been waiting to make a reservation at this hostel for months as their calendar is highly irregular. We called in December or November to ask when would the calendar open for April and they didn't give us a specific date, but told us that once 2025 came, we should keep checking the calendar. I waited until Jan and the calendar didn't open for April so I emailed them and my email was ignored. We kept waiting as they opened the calendar for March but not April or later......then we called again this week to ask what was going on. Finally they said that they would be closed for the month of April. If you were going to be closed for April, why were we told four months ago to wait until January to make a reservation for April. You were given the specific dates and number of people that we were trying to make a reservation, yet we were still given incorrect information.

Cool, modern, and chill vibe with attentive staff who speak English well. I stayed in a private room on one of the floors, and it included basic amenities. Otherwise, most amenities, including towels, are rented or paid if renting a dorm. Personally, staying in a hostel wasn't for me due to some factors explained below: - Close proximity in terms of spaces and rooms: Even in a private room, there was some mild to moderate amount of noise from a next-door neighbour as well as the shared washroom right ahead of the private rooms -the room size was a small squared tatami floor room as well as the washroom was compact (not much room for opening multiple luggages at a time and even room for walking when futons were out open. Minimal storage space) -The sink inside the room was super tiny... I had to wash my face in sections to avoid splashing everywhere - Expect to be comfortable with how others use their space in the common area... mostly repectable fellows, but some weren't responsible for cleaning up or taking out their clothes from the shared washer/dryer after hours of being finished You'd just have to be comfortable with some noise and be around people of different habits and backgrounds. Good, polite, friendly, and attentive service. Security was good as they had key pads on each private room as well as the hostel entrance door. The location of the hostel was in a quiet neighborhood, which was nice. Close to Tokyo metro.
Toyomi I — Google review
No employees will smile at you. They don't care if u go or come. No hospitality no greetings. I know this is not a 5 star hotel but still customer service matters. The manager and few employees that we encountered were never friendly. The room was tiny w no space to put anything which was ok but man this place is not worth the money. Location is ok but don't expect anything from them. Filthy kitchen the dryer is a scam that needs to be run twice to dry never going back
D P — Google review
One of the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. The front desk guy on the night shift rudely asked if I was drunk, in a very disrespectful manner in front of his staff. Unfortunately, he's not the only rude employee at this hostel. Additionally, they charge $2 for each towel, which is absurd. The quality of the shampoo and body soap provided is also terrible. The only positive aspect was that I could leave my bag and come back later after check-in, but that hardly makes up for the overall terrible experience. Beware and avoid this place at all costs.
Chris V — Google review
The hostel was incredible value for money. Clean and comfortable, with great policies in place for making sure everyone respects one another. The blackout curtains let no light through. The bunk beds were spacious enough to fit a duffel bag at my feet with room to spare (5’10”). Above everything else was the staff. I had the very stressful experience of losing my wallet on the first day, and Chloe went above and beyond to help me. Her kindness and generosity saved me so much time and stress. Even when my wallet was found and I no longer needed help, Chloe and the rest of the staff always greeted me with a smile and were very helpful. Given the impeccable cleanliness, location, thoughtful policies, and incredibly kindness, this is definitely a 10/10 stay!

Sakura Hostel Asakusa is an informal hostel in Tokyo, centrally located just a step from Kaminarimon and the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Centre. The hostel offers simple dorms and private rooms with a dining area, TV lounge, and kitchenette. With air-conditioned guestrooms equipped with amenities like hairdryers and complimentary Wi-Fi, the service-minded staff is always available to assist guests.
Very social place, the staff is great and it is amazingly located. I personally like to use my hostel to just « crash » at the end of the day, and as a social place, and everything was clean, comfortable enough and fun. If looking for a super bougie experience, it might not be your cup of tea but it was certainly mine.
Mia R — Google review
The hostel was fine. Bare bones. The rooms are the only place with AC. The bathrooms are boiling. The curtains on all the beds are loud enough to wake you up in the night if someone opens their bed. The lockers are too small for any kind of luggage besides a tiny backpack. They had multiple “room checks” while we were there, requiring us to have all our stuff packed up for multiple days. The location is decent although a 10 min walk to most subways. The concierge was nice
Leila T — Google review
Although I share the idea that rooms could be improved, in general I feel this hostel is a very nice place. I have been twice already, and I always feel like at home. Although my Japanese knowledge is very basic yet, it was pretty fun to chitchat with the employees both in Japanese and English (and now even in Spanish!). The treatment by the employees is excellent, and people are usually kind when resting in the lobby, so it is always possible to meet nice people there too. The place is also nice, being only a few minutes away from Sensoji. I really recommend the place.
Eduardo B — Google review
I stayed here for one night, in transit from airport between flights. The staff were super helpful and sweet, and the accommodations were above hostel standard but nothing extraordinary. Cool neighborhood is literally around the corner. Ideal if you want to stay in Asakusa and are okay with slightly crammed corners.
Ethan B — Google review
I read the reviews, positive and negative, prior to my stay here and to be honest, I was quite worried with my decision of booking Sakura Hostel. But I was glad that I just had positive experiences during my stay. The receptionist upon check in is warm and friendly. They speak english well so foreigners don’t need to worry. I was given a bed sheet and pillow case. There are no bath towel, slippers, toothbrush and toothpaste provision so either you bring your own or rent/buy from the hostel. I was assigned to the room near the restroom. Total of 8 bunk beds was there and I got to have a lower bunk. Aircon is cold, wifi is strong, matress is thick and soft, room is spacious enough and clean, there is 1 cabinet for each guests at the room but it’s small and has no lock. If you have a luggage, you can place it below your bed instead. The bed has an individual light and just one socket. It was quiet and although I can sometimes hear sounds frok outside, it isn’t much of a big deal as it’s not loud. I was able to sleep well. Restroom is clean. I am usually alone in the bathroom. It was never cramped. There are shampoo and body wash available. There’s also hair dryer. Only downside is it’s warm inside. Receptionists change from time to time and they were all friendly. Breakfast is okay. There were toasts, spreads, soup, coffee and tea everyday. All in all I would say staying here is bang for the buck. Great location too. Just a few mins away from Sensoji, Donki, Uniqlo, Nakamise Street, etc.

Stayed here with a travel group and this was one of our least favorites. Just the potent odor in the elevator and our bedrooms would be enough to not want to stay here but the beds were very uncomfortable and hard as well. Would be nice if the breakfast offered more than just bread and soup.

This hostel, located in the popular entertainment district of Shibuya, has a lot to offer. Aside from dorms and private rooms, there is a hot pot restaurant and a basement bar for those who are looking for some late night fun. The hostel has an industrial aesthetic with wooden capsule-style dormitories and is perfect for anyone looking to stay in Tokyo's vibrant Shibuya district.
Great Atmosphere, super nice and fun staff, clean rooms where you get a good sleep. Great for Backpackers who like to engange with other travellers. Location is optimal 15 minutes walk to Shibuya and close to other really nice neighborhoods.

It was great, i stayed one week in this location and i do not have any complaints. Check in was quick and easy, my bed was clean and the restrooms are in very good conditions, i had my bed on the fifth floor, the staff is very friendly and they have food and drinks promos every day, It seems they have parties once a while and that makes the place even better, when i go back to Tokyo i will definitely stay there again.

The service here made my trip! My flight arrived late and I missed check in. The front desk reached out to me by email to help find a solution. Thanks to their kindness, I did not have to sleep on the street! I truly felt so cared for staying here. Though the space is very cramped in the rooms, the hostel does as much as it can to keep things organized. Showers, bathrooms, and grooming areas complete with sinks and blow dryers are all separate. I never had to fight for a place to get ready. Staff acknowledge everyone whether coming or going with a smile. I utilized their storage area for the day and had no problems, and even stayed for a delicious lemon sour at their bar. I would 100% come back here just for the vibes.

Hostel recommended by a couple bloggers which is how we landed here. Based on reviews I did not expect a friendly atmosphere, but wow there sure is not. The staff are not welcoming at all. We arrived 30 minutes before move in, they made every single person wait to check in at 4, likely the rooms ready. Really didn’t bother us, but something to know. No lockers or storage room - your bags sit by the elevator if you leave them with them if you arrive early. Not the safest space with a back door access close by. We stayed in a private twin room, it was comfortable and clean. Had our own tiny sink and mirror. Really comfortable comforters, bed was decent. Small locker with key inside the bed. Another one night stay for us so it suited our over night in Shibuya. It’s about a 15 min walk from the train station / bus station once you know the lay of the land it’s pretty easy. Recommend for those who are not caring for a hostel atmosphere or friendly serviced stay. No info about things to do, tours or anything hostel typical.

Comfortable hostel walking or bus distance from Shibuya crossing. We stayed 2 nights there, in a private 2 bunk bed room. The room was very small but included a small sink which is helpful. We had a window to give some cool air because unfortunately the AC unit only pumped hot air out. The common room is okay, with not much amenities and always loud music playing even at 9am. There wasn't any space for us to store some food or use cutlery/bowls/plates.

Additionally, it features a rooftop terrace and a lounge, going beyond the typical bar vibe. The staff, consisting of young Japanese and foreigners on working vacation visas, are friendly and accommodating.
Great location to nearby stations, great service and had some some good amenities (washer/dryer available, drinks to buy or you can make your own teas / coffee) they also provided 1 free drink a day during 'happy hour'. The toilet and showering facilities were shared spaces but were kept clean and tidy and in good use. We had no issues whilst we stayed there and was a good central location to many areas of Tokyo. Highly recommend.

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The location is great, right in between two metro stations and outside of the hostel it is very quiet at night. The rooms and facilities are clean and well maintained. The staff and people were the highlight for me. The common room is pretty small, this together with the happy hour makes for a great social atmosphere where its very easy to meet people. People would flock to the happy hour, would usually make plans to go out from there and split of into little groups for the night. I've met so many amazing people here. The staff are all amazing and are really friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back!

Close to station and conbini, Staff are friendly. Room is kinda like capsule bunk bed Good enough to sleep in. 1 free beer everyday from 7 to 8pm in the lobby and socialising with people staying there. Roof top is great too Would recommend

You are guaranteed to love this place and the wonderful people who work there. It’s a fantastic spot to meet new people during your stay. I highly recommend it for solo travelers as well as groups! Next to Hostel Den is also lovely caffè place with homemade puddings.

Hostel DEN in Japan was an absolute delight! From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and comfortable. Every employee was friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind, always ready to assist with any questions or local recommendations. The hostel itself was spotless—the cleanliness in the rooms, bathrooms, and common areas was outstanding, making the stay even more enjoyable and relaxing. The thoughtful touches and attention to detail throughout the space really set this hostel apart. Hostel DEN is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a cozy, well-maintained place to stay with exceptional hospitality!

Hostel Chapter Two Tokyo is a budget-friendly accommodation in Tokyo, offering shared bathrooms and free Wi-Fi. It caters to both tourists and digital nomads, providing various amenities at an affordable price. The family-run hostel boasts welcoming staff and a rooftop terrace with river views. Guests can enjoy air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, shared lounge access, and quality toiletries. The clean and comfortable capsule beds come with charging stations and ample hanger space.
I stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed my stay. I appreciate and very thankful to Hiro (owner) for his quick thinking and sending me a message to double check if I had forwarded my luggage, as the service carrier I used did not ask me for my name and my luggage almost got sent back to Kyoto! The staff are wonderful and they help you with your luggage. You are also able to store your luggage if you have a late flight! The hostel is close to everything such as Sensoji-temple, convenience store, restaurants etc. The rooftop is also very nice especially at night!

Location-wise you’re close to the tokyo metro so that’s a plus. You get what you pay for. The room was a little bit cramped for a group of four but I kind of expected it already. Everything else was top notch. Amenities are available and it was nice to have a coin laundry within the hostel although the dryer was not in perfect condition. The roof top has a beautiful view of Skytree and finally the staff were very helpful and accommodating.

(Didn't get to take much photos due to my phone having not much memory) But, I have to say this is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in! First: The location was great just about 3 or 4 minutes walk from the station(depending on how fast you walk I guess 😂) and it's close to the attractions around Asakusa and the owner has great recommendations(that you scan with a QR code) Second: The staffs were great! Very friendly and speaks really good english! Third: The rooms, I booked a bed with a view and it was the best thing ever! Having a view of the river and the skytree at night was lovely ❤️ the bed was really comfortable for me and spacious since I am quite petite. Had the best sleep ever! Everyone was so quiet at night that it was easy to fall asleep. I almost didn't go out much just enjoying the view from my bed lol. Fourth: the lounge area was really nice too, very comfy and relaxing, although, for tall people you may have to bend down a lot to access the other side of the lounge lol but again, no problem for me since I am short. Now for some cons in my honest opinion, The shower room and bathroom can be a bit too hot since it's summer so just be aware of that, it isn't air-conditioned inside. Stairs. Though I had no problem with it because I only had a backpack and some bags that I can carry. For people with big suitcases though may be a bit difficult. The staff will help to bring your stuff up though. That's about it, overall this hostel is highly recommended! Get the one with the view of the river! Oh and I forgot to mention, the stairs for the upper bunk bed are a great design, most hostels have ladders but this one had actual steps to the upper bunk which is a huge plus for me since I really don't like climbing up ladders lol and this is irrelevant but I was assigned to the bed no. 8 which is my favourite number lol loved it so much! Anyway, this is a long post. Thank you Chapter Two for my very comfortable stay! Will definitely come back again! And thank you for offering me an early check-in, saved me from the heat of the sun! ❤️

Hostel is not too big, but is very social and has a nice communal area in the old garage. Staff is great, especially Erika, I love you! Dormitories with good privacy, everything super clean, great simple breakfast for 500 yen. Location is extremely good in Asakusa, next to the river and 200m from metro Asakusa station. Highly recommended

This was my first stay in Japan. It was a great place to land! It was quiet and clean, which was really nice for getting away from the big energy of the city. The sleeping rooms are air-conditioned. The place is owned by a couple and isn’t too big, so it has a more homey feel— Erica is amazing and so kind!! There’s the option to get breakfast at an additional fee and there is always tea available. I loved the location, right by the water.
Antje S — Google review
Great place to lay your head! Clean rooms, the host was wonderful, helped me with my bags & explained everything. Has a chill spot on the roof overlooking the river & some nice night lights. Totally recommend 👌🏾

My underwear was stolen there.. Maybe they should provide big lockers for people. Apart from that it’s a really nice and clean hostel. Loved the rooftop and the breakfast.
Eleonore N — Google review
The experience is 1000/100!! My main concern is that would it be noisy when stay in hostel? But it is very quiet and especially there is a lot of space for the bed area. You do have space to put your luggage as well. The first floor is common area where the boss has store his own wine and can be sold by cup. There is ample space for common area where I worked. The staff is very nice and helpful to provide recommendations. I just knew it’s opened for 7 years already! And the boss is constantly renovating the hotel so it looks so new. Besides, it’s 200m from the subway, straight line out of airport and 200m from the boat station. Fantastic view and cozy environment.

Hotel
Book and Bed Tokyo Shinjuku is a unique hostel in the Kabukicho area that has gained popularity among both foreign tourists and locals. The modern concept of this accommodation revolves around the idea of staying in a bookstore, surrounded by thousands of books categorized into various genres. The chic industrial design features concrete, exposed pipework, and wooden elements, with a central wall of bookcases housing 'bookshelf beds' for individual guests.
Great hotel - much better than expected actually - we are a family of 4 with 2 kids 10 and 12 and they absolutely wanted to try it - we all had our own capsule - Staff was very friendly and English speaking, the capsules are quiet and bigger than we thought, with room at the bottom to store your luggage (including our big luggage). The books and capsules create a very soft and quiet environment, where we all slept well through the night - it was not noisy at all (even if your capsule door is a double curtain) - Everyone seems to respect the "be quiet" rule. The beds are simple but comfy enough, no one complained the day after 🤪They have a little cafe for drinks and food, but the best part of it is that you are right in the middle of the action - in the very vibrant Shinjuku with all restaurants, neons, bars etc Absolutely 10 / 10 for location and surprisingly 10 / 10 for quietness, located on the 8th floor of a 10 storeys building. All in all a very unique and fun experience.
Dimitri K — Google review
Not bad at all! Comfy enough and super clean during my visit. It was a bit stuffy on the top bunk, unfortunately, and my mate on the bottom was kept awake by whispering — the wood is quite thin, so you can hear everything. That said, if you can come on a weekday and get a good deal, I’d recommend it. I wouldn’t pay too much, though. Have to make own bed on top bunk in small space but managed to get it done although I bashed my head in the process.
Joe W — Google review
This place has a really cute theme, and the book decor is well done. The location is excellent, and the staff were pretty friendly, but the whole place is incredibly dirty. The capsules are filled with debris and dust. The sheets provided are clean, but the sleeping pad (no mattress, just thin pad) was stained. The bathrooms are covered in grime and mold; the showers looked like they had never been cleaned, and the toilets were disgusting. One of the dirtiest hostels I have stayed at which was a huge surprise both for Japan and for the cost given a hotel across the way would have been the same price for two people. If you really like books, maybe visit for a coffee during the day but I strongly suggest sleeping elsewhere.
Jillian G — Google review
Staff: Very young, clearly underpaid, and fully disengaged. Hospitality isn’t part of the business model here. Sleep: Think sauna meets storage unit—hot, dusty, no mattress, and zero ventilation. Bathroom: Couple dirty toilets. That’s the whole sentence. Weekends: The “hostel” transforms into a public café packed with couples on dates. Try showering or getting into your capsule while strangers sip lattes one meter away in their aesthetic dates. If you want to study discomfort in its purest and most immersive point, this is the place.
Nico K — Google review
The space is super cool and I loved all the books. Some great cafe seating and I enjoyed journaling in the lounge area. The bathrooms need some maintenance, and the A/C was not great especially in the middle of the night. The service felt pretty impersonal. Some might really like that.
Ericscout — Google review
I booked based on the online photos, but the real experience didn’t match the images. When my itinerary changed, I contacted the property multiple times via Agoda and email, but received no reply. Communication was difficult. The location is very convenient with plenty of dining options, but because it’s in a busy area, nights are noticeably noisy and the surroundings feel a bit chaotic. Facilities are minimal. Aside from toilets and showers, I didn’t see typical hostel amenities (e.g., a water dispenser, coffee machine, or laundry). The capsule sleeping space is very small and not friendly for luggage or anyone who needs extra room. Overall, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Tips for Travelers Good for a quick overnight if you only need a central location. If you value quiet and shared facilities, consider other options.
Felisa S — Google review
This was my first ever capsule hotel experience. Staff: I think they are very young and maybe underpaid, that is why they dont care about hotel guests. So dont except too much hospitality. Sleep : Not great. Too hot inside and dusty. Noise: As there is no one to enforce the rules, there are noise always. Bathroom: Totolet doesnt work :( Only thing I like were those comfy pyjamas...
Gizem E — Google review
Tl;dr: just a fancy shit, not recommended, 0/5 I can’t understand why ppl here can rate 3/4 stars when they think something is totally unacceptable. If you don't want to pay high and travel with risk, please find another hotel (maybe chain hotel nearby, at least you can enjoy OSEN when you pay more!) - Hostel for bagpackers, but priced like chain hotels - Dusty, the air quality is particularly worrisome, not friendly for ppl with allergic rhinitis - Only a fancy vinyl backdrop for pictures (feels cool at first),but not much common space can use, quite hard to pack your suitcase/ bag pack when crowd - No real rooms, everyone is living in a barrack with woods and curtains - The partition is quite thin between you and others, can hear ppl whispering or snoring, you have to move carefully - Cleaning issue, no comments The worst part is the hostel staff, the night shift guy is super nice is ok, but day shift is another story. The guy doesn’t want to work and doesn’t like to talk to foreign tourists. No senior staff, no manager, no one you can talk to if the only staff don't give you a damn (they act like bus ticket inspectors in EU, rude and annoying), very Tokyo style!

Tokyo Guest House Ouji Music Lounge is a laid-back hostel with simple dorms and private rooms, as well as a casual cafe/bar. It's a haven for music enthusiasts, offering frequent live music events without disturbing the guests' peace. The guest house is conveniently located near Oji station, providing easy access to major destinations while being nestled in a serene riverside setting with an old-style bridge nearby.
The location is amazing, close to a small traditional park, close to the JR train station, 3 Sentos (public baths), restaurants and a beautiful lineal park, perfect for morning walks or jogs. The rooms are very traditional, we rented a room with 4 beds in 2 bunker beds so it was great to have a private bathroom and a big room for the 4 of us, it might get a bit right and awkward if you are staying with strangers. But it was perfect in our case. Even tho the facilities are a bit dated, they work perfectly and were very clean. The staff was nice.

It's a bit old. But well maintained and clean enough for what it is. The food is real great if you want some pizza. There is a laundromat at the ground floor. It's close to the station and a nice Park. All in all, it's good.

A very nice relaxing hostel with great friendly staff. The beds were the comfiest beds I have been in so far in my 5 months of travelling. Was a very easy nights sleep! The bathrooms were kept clean and were equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Unfortunately The cafe/bar/lounge area was always occupied for private events so was barely ever open which is disappointing and the location is far from the attractions. But very peaceful neighbourhood and delighted with the stay

A budget friendly place to stay. We had the 2 beds room with tatami mats, no TV, a decent sized private bathroom. AC runs ok and is a little on the rough side when cooling a completely warm room. We slept on the mats instead of the beds to keep cool. Just stayed a night because we'll, I messed up the timing of the trip and was there a day earlier than I expected. The other rooms I heard house multiple bunk beds and a shared bathroom. It's very close to restaurants, public transportation, and convenient stores. Smoking area is right in front of the entrance. If you're a smoker/caper you'll want to keep that in your back pocket if you're near that area.
Decimo — Google review
Close to some lovely areas to walk around. Levels of comfort depend much on who's sharing your dorm. I liked it here though. There's a bar, free soap for your laundry. An ironing board. Little perks. Easy to find. There are lovely trams to take for commuting about and a very close by train station.

Horrible service I booked this hostel and paid in full. I arrived around 11 PM, but there was no staff present. I contacted them, and only after an hour was I informed that they didn’t have a bed for me. I received no alternative, no assistance, and no refund. I had to walk 40 minutes with heavy luggage late at night. I did not stay at the property, and the staff made no effort to resolve the situation. This experience was extremely disappointing.

Cocts Akihabara is a minimalist hostel located just a short walk from Akihabara Station. The hostel offers streamlined dorms and rooms, some featuring permanent tents for a unique stay. The sleek wooden interior creates a tranquil atmosphere in the midst of the bustling city. Private rooms with tatami mats provide a traditional accommodation option, while groups can book the Complex Room for an indoor glamping experience with tents, sleeping bags, and entertainment amenities.
Nice budget hotel. You can rent one bed for 2 people. Not much space but it gets the job done. Communal showers are a little small, so the humidity can make drying off difficult. All in all a good place to spend the night for travelers.

Its not a clean hostel. I found so many black long hairs in my bed its really disgusting. They say you can get a free donut for breakfast every day from 8:30 till 10:00. First I think its starts really late, but even if you are there at like 9 or 9:30 they are already gone. Don’t say breakfast included if its like this. Really dissapointed. I stayed in a lot of hotels/hostels in Japan that were amazing. But this one is really dirty, loud en the service is just not it. I was excited and had really good expectations, but I’m really dissapointed

I had a very disappointing experience with this hostel. My flight was delayed, so I arrived shortly after midnight. At that point, the reception was closed and I was unable to check in. Since there was no clear communication beforehand that late check-in would not be possible, I ended up having to spend the night outside. When I contacted the hostel afterwards, they refused to offer any kind of refund or solution, claiming I had no proof. This lack of flexibility and customer care was extremely frustrating. For travelers relying on flights and potential delays, I cannot recommend this hostel. Clearer communication and better support for guests in such situations are absolutely necessary.
Danilo G — Google review
Was a bit disappointed with this place overall. Room was not as shown in photos online - two bunks very close together and basically no space for suitcases to be opened. No shelves in bunks etc. When we arrived staff not present at check in desk and had to wait quite a while. Once checked in we realised that the staff had not really given us much info - regarding towel hires, bathroom location, public spaces etc. Public spaces in this hostel are minimal - only a cafe which is open to public during the day and a rooftop for smokers which is hard to access. However, there were also loads of positives. Location was excellent for our needs - really quick to get to airport and Tokyo station as Akihabara station is only a short walk. Facilities were also very clean and modern - showers and toilets were lovely! If you are fine with being quite close to your neighbours and having to stay mostly in your bunk, this place is actually fine for most travellers.

The Hotel Cen is an excellent choice for travelers looking for a trendy, contemporary property in the Shinjuku Ward district of Tokyo. The contemporary design and comfortable bedding and linens make it a great option for business travelers, while the breakfast buffet provides a great kick-start to the day before exploring the city.
Staff were very friendly and had no trouble storing our luggage before and after we checked in. The room was small, but that was expected. Comfy beds and a cosy space to relax in after a day of exploring. Clean, modern and really calm atmosphere just off of the busy streets. There’s a nice coffee shop by the lobby where you can sit and plan your day. The metro was only a short walk from the hotel which made getting around easy. Would stay again :)

Really nice little boutique hotel in the heart of Shinjuku. 7 minute walk from Shinjuku station, even as a first timer to Tokyo. Staff are incredibly friendly, price is reasonable and rooms are functional. I had a double room which might be a bit tight for 2 people it was perfect for 1 person. Perhaps upgrade to a deluxe if you are a couple of 2. The bar/cafe is nice but isn’t very lively. Maybe the bar area is open outside of the rainy season but there wasn’t really anywhere to sit at a bar and socialize. 7/11 a block away, laundry on site, and basically everything you would need. Highly recommended!
Alex L — Google review
The hotel was alright. I knew the room was small beforehand but this was really small. I never stayed in such a small room so it was really uncomfortable if you come with two luggages and you cant even put them anywhere. Under the bed there is some space but not if your suitcase is a bit bigger. I don’t recommend staying in shinjuku either. Its chaotic and not so comfortable walking back at night if you are a women.
Merve E — Google review
I think this place is pretty new, which might explain why the rooms are so nicely done and the service is great and you are like a few blocks from Shinjuku station and the price is very affordable. They also have a cool roof deck and vending machines and laundry. it’s a good place.

We are a mid 20s german couple travelling together - we stayed in Hotel Cen for 4 days in a 2 person room. The hotel staff was very nice and good with english. They were also very knowledgable about the surrounding area and could give good first pointers when we were lost. The rooms are very clean and are - for what we expected from Tokyo - average in size. You are kinda expected to live out of your suitcase (which you can push under the bed when not using it) but that was fine with us. Yes the bedroom integrated toilet and shower (although separatable by courtains) are more meant for couple accomondations. So if you are not that open with your room partner in that regard, best book separate rooms. The hotel area is very quiet - which was perfect for us after busy days exploring Tokyo. All in all - perfect hotel for what we expected for a city trip where most of the time is spent outside anyways. The small fridge and electric kettle were nice for breakfast and storing some snacks in between.

We loved this place. So homely and comfortable, great value for money. For what it is, which is a cheap hotel that is foreigner friendly with the right location, we loved k's house! Needed to buy a pillow to make sleeping on the moderately soft beds comfortable (they only provided two very flat pillows, which is not enough if you're sleeping two people on one bed), but otherwise our stay was great. Don't go in expecting good Wi-Fi, it's spotty at best lol. Miki made us feel right at home! Thank you!

We loved our stay at K's House. This was out first accommodation on arrival in Tokyo, felt very Japanese with warm hospitality, the architecture of the house and the area it was located in. We had a family room with 2 bunk beds, our own shower/WC and a bit of extra space so we were very comfortable (we were 2 staying in the room). Communal areas on the ground floor and anything you need in the surrounding area. We would be very happy to stay here again

I already reviewed this on Booking, but wanted to also leave a positive review here since looking back after 2 weeks, it was really one of the best places we stayed during our 3 weeks holiday around Japan, and definitely the best hostel I've ever stayed in in general. For a great price, we got a hotel-style private room with bathroom that was roomy, comfortable and incredibly clean and fresh. The kitchen and shared space were also really nice to use, the location is wonderful since it's near the lively Asakusa but not directly on the noisy streets. A shout out to the 2 girls of the staff who were really nice and helpful and speak perfect English.

I stayed here twice during my vacation in Japan, and would really recommend it. The girl staff at front desk is really spirited, kind, and helpful with fluency in English. The room is really clean with comfortable room size. There are so many restaurants and a convenient store in the neighborhood. It's really worth the price.

Had a really great experience with this hostel. I had lost my passport and wallet the first night I got there, and the staff was very gracious and periodically called the police for me to check if the passport and wallet were found, even when I wasn't actually at the hostel to ask them to. The rooms were clean and well maintained - they're not the biggest but you do get what you see from the website. Lots of great nearby food, and the area is fairly low-key at all times of day. Would be glad to come back next time I'm in Tokyo!

It's not really a hostel, more like a budget hotel with some hostel amenities, namely a shared kitchen and "laundry." You get a private room and bathroom, but it's easily the smallest, most cramped hotel room I've ever stayed in. You'll probably be OK if you're traveling solo and don't have much luggage, but for my wife and I with two suitcases total, we were constantly playing Twister and rearranging the entire room any time one of us wanted to open our bag, pack/unpack, or dress. I was counting on doing laundry, since we stayed here on the first leg of a long trip. Don't count on doing laundry here. I put our clothes through 4 drying cycles and they still came out musty and damp at the end. After the first two tries, I figured I just had too much in the machine, so I split the load in half and ran it one half at a time. Two more cycles with a half load still wasn't enough. Eventually we just had to press every available surface in our tiny room into service as a makeshift drying rack. Other than that, the place is fine. The location is good, it's a quieter part of the city with relatively fewer tourists. Metro stations on the Ginza and Oedo lines are a 10/15 minute walk away. The front desk staff are friendly and speak good English.

It was a pleasant and surprisingly quiet stay (everyone very respectful of their noise level when entering and exiting). They have complimentary toothbrushes, disposable cups, earplugs if you need. However, laundry can be a little tricky as you will need 2 hours to wash and dry your clothes if you plan on using their combo washer-dryer units. Room size is tight but enough space to fit 2 people on the bed (6'2" and 5'2" couple), we chose a unit with our own compact, Japanese-style fitted shower and bidet-toilet, and we were able to fit 2 duffel carry-ons, and a small check-in luggage (carry-on size) into our suite. Front desk staff all speak English well, and are super nice and helpful. They even let you leave your luggage at their desk if you let them know you will be arriving before check-in time. One miss was the wall AC unit being temperamental: one moment it was be a quiet whir, and next moment it would have a gurgling noise. Maybe it was just our unit with this issue.

Super friendly staff and really cozy! The rooms were clean and comfortable. Much larger than I expected! I stayed with just myself and a friend and there was plenty of space. Kitchen was fully stocked and I felt very at home. Wish I could have stayed longer!

The staff is super friendly and talkative and speak good English. Special mention to Kira :) with whom I talked 2-3 hours one night. The location is not super central, but with the metro you can get anywhere quite fast. The pros of the location is that you are in a super calm neighborhood, but close (around 10min walk) from Asakusa temple and the many restaurants close to it. The rooms were nothing fancy but functional. You can wash your clothes there, and you have access to a kitchen, fridge, freezer and drinking water. Overall would highly recommend, price/quality ratio is very good.

Staff here are the best; special thanks to Kira for helping us solve a problem🙏. Good facilities, rooms are a little small, but to be expected at this price point in Tokyo.
Sam B — Google review
I had a comfortable stay. The bed was nice. Shower/bathroom is pretty small, but the entire room is pretty small. On par with other hotels and private rooms in hostels in Tokyo. I saw signage and other people mention the walls being thin, but other than occasionally hearing people out in the hallway I found it to be fairly quiet. Everything in the kitchen you might need was available as well as coin laundry. The staff was very kind. Location was good.

We've recently stayed at this Hostel and it was a great experience! The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpfull. There was one particular staff member that would always greet us with a smile and genuine interest in our day, If I'm correct her name was Kira. She was beyond lovely, such a sweet soul ❤️ we'd definitely recomend staying here. Yes rooms are small, but so is everywhere in Tokyo. Everything else completely makes up for the size of the rooms. Very clean and the common space is nice to hang out at. Did I mention they have great staff? 😄 shout out to all of them they were incredibly sweet!

Hotel + Hostel Tokyo Asakusa 2 is a great choice for travelers looking to meet people from around the world and immerse themselves in Japanese travel and culture. The private rooms, while not perfect, offer a comfortable stay with amenities like private bathrooms and refrigerators. The hotel's stylish layout, excellent location, and useful facilities such as public baths, washing machines, vending machines, microwave, and kettle make it a great value for money.
Spent 2 nights in the mixed dormitory and honestly, no complaints. Clean space, chill vibes. The bathroom experience 😂 literally open for all ladies. Just check my photo and u will understand what am talking about 🥹thankfully, whenever i took my showers, i had the place to myself. I love their shampoo and conditioner!!!!!! 😭 definitely an experience to remember!

I stayed in the dormitory at Hotel + Hostel Tokyo Asakusa 2 and had a great experience. The bed was nice, comfy, and clean, which made for a good night's sleep. The bathroom was also spotless, which I really appreciated. The room itself was cold. The location is fantastic—just a short walk from the metro, making it super convenient to explore the city. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall positive experience.

I stayed in a double room and it's quite nice. Spacious, nice bed, everything is clean, including the bathroom. However, they do not provide microwave or kettle in the room so we need to go to common space for that. Service is good, the staffs are friendly and will definitely help you when you ask them. Location is perfect, it's located in the center of Asakusa so I can reach so many spots easily, including Sensoji Temple, Sumida River, Asakusa Station, and a good view of Tokyo Skytree.

Location is great. Room was small but bigger than apa wnd comfortable. Only 1 elevator with no stairs (???) So it's annoying - can wait 5+ minutes for the elevator.
Shai M — Google review
Honest reviews with such mixed feeling to this accommodation. Loved it but with big concerns to security and high potential of theft because there is zero security measurements with no lockers service to anything bigger than passport and money. Pro: - Unbeatable location. Close proximity to the underground line and Senso-Ji (on foot) - Cleanness with modern feel - Spacious cabin bed in Tokyo standard - Public bath Cons: 1. Lack of any security measurement. Potential ‘theft’! - open floor plan on the 3rd and 4th floor for cabin beds and bunk beds which are mixed together on each floor. No security swipe card is required to access to the building and the lift. Reception is always unattended and no one checks whether or not you are in house guests. Anyone can walk in and out. - once you exit the lift on the 3rd and 4th floor, all beds are there. Completely open floor. Available lockers are only for money and passport. Too small for laptops. That means all your belongings are unlocked. No other lockers are available except your own suitcases. That could easily steal by intended thieves since zero security measurements of the entire place. *Refer to attached photos of floor plan - No secured luggage storage room. All belongings left at lobby unattended. On top of it, the building entrance, lifts are not required any swipe cards or keys to enter. Anyone can walk in and out without any security measurements in place. 2. Receptionist - Mostly left unattended. Even at check out time around 11am. You are told to leave checkout keys on table. You don’t know where to leave your luggage for storage. - The guy at night shift was really friendly and helpful. - The lady during the day was really moody and unfriendly. It wasn’t due to language barrier but purely her attitude cause I tried to communicate with her with translation apps. She sighed a lot and didn’t want to be there. One of the worst customer service I received during my countless visit to Japan. 3. Public bath - I love it but it’s not for everyone because there is no separate changing rooms. Everything is open. They don’t provide any keys to any lockers inside public bath. Basically this accommodation is unlocked completely except the tiny locker for money and passport. - No shower cubic. You need to be completely comfortable and open to use the facility because there is no doors. 4. Open floor plan at the 3rd & 4th floor - Cabin beds and bunk beds are mixed together. That means 25 mixed genders share each of these floor. 3 toilets for men & 3 toilets for women on each floor. Everyone share men & women public baths on the 2nd floor. Shower cubic is unavailable. - I had a loud snoring neighbour in cabin bed from Korea. He snored louder than thunderstorm between 23.00 - 08.00. No one was able to sleep on the entire floor. The top of cabin bed is opened. That means the sound/noise echo even louder at night. In conclusion, such a shame! Despite prime location and clean spacious, comfy bed, I wouldn’t stay here again cause my belongings and laptops are total unsafe due to ‘zero’ security measurements. Building entrance closes at midnight but password signage places next to the door. It’s pointless to lock. This accommodation is paradise to those with bad intend = theft. *Booked for more nights but had to let go due to security reason even though they don’t offer refund. It’s better to be safe than regret!

Good location with lots of food nearby and quick walk to the train/metro. Room was small but got the job done and was relatively clean. We only interacted with the staff at check in/out briefly, but he was kind and efficient.

Disappointing Stay, Despite a Great Location We recently stayed at this hotel, and while we were initially excited about its convenient location—just a short 3-5 minute walk from Asakusa Station—the overall experience was disappointing, to say the least. Cleanliness & Maintenance: One of the most alarming issues was the cleanliness (or lack thereof). Trash and miscellaneous items were scattered throughout the lobby and in the elevator, creating an immediate impression of neglect. Our room itself felt unkempt: we noticed a thick layer of dust under the bed and on the exhaust fan, which we specifically asked staff to clean. Unfortunately, it remained untouched. Air Conditioning Issues: The air conditioning in our room was non-functional, making for an uncomfortable stay in the hot, humid weather. We reported the issue twice, but it was never addressed. Sleeping in a room with poor air circulation was exhausting and unpleasant, and no alternative solutions or apologies were offered. Safety Concerns: Safety was another big concern. As we were using the elevator, the wheel of our luggage became stuck on a string from a hotel laundry bag that had been carelessly left inside. The elevator door closed as expected, with our luggage still caught. Luckily, my partner managed to catch her luggage but it is indeed a traumatic experience. Odors & Hygiene: The second floor, where the laundry bins are stored, smelled strongly of rotten eggs. It was unbearable to pass through, and the smell permeated the air, adding to the overall sense that cleanliness and hygiene are not priorities for this establishment. The One Upside – Location: The only saving grace was the location. With Asakusa Station a quick walk away, it was convenient for sightseeing and accessing other parts of Tokyo. But with so many other hotels in the area, it’s hard to justify staying here solely for location, given the poor conditions. Final Verdict: Unfortunately, this hotel missed the mark on so many basic aspects of hospitality. Cleanliness, maintenance, and safety should be standard, yet they were lacking here. We would not recommend this hotel unless serious improvements are made to ensure guests’ comfort and safety. Save yourself the hassle and consider alternative accommodations in the same area.

Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro is a casual hotel offering straightforward rooms and dorms with shared kitchens and a 24-hour restaurant. The cozy flat, named after a century-old Sakura tree, provides modern one-bedroom accommodation with fully equipped kitchens. The neighborhood offers diverse dining options, convenience stores, and supermarkets. While lacking designer charm, the hotel compensates with multilingual four-star front-desk service and various room arrangements including family rooms.
Great location in Ikebukuro, the staff were very very nice to me. They asked if I cook, and encouraged me to cook a dish from my country, and they will pay for the ingredients and maybe include the dish in their cafe if it's good. So also they have a cafe, dorms, laundry service, strong WiFi, I could get some work done from my room. The room was a standard japanese room, for a good price considering the location. Overall very recommended.

Great hostel, they have group rooms and single rooms available. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and quiet. My only complaint would be that the rooms were a little old and smelled a little musty but that can't be helped with an aging building. Some reviewera complain about the AC only going down to 20c but I found that still got the room plenty cold. Staff cleaned rooms daily. Location was great, close to convenience store and food. Ikebukuro station is a short walk away and goes anywhere you need. Shout out to Koma, he was such a great staff member. He gave me recommendations for things to do around Tokyo. He also invited me to cook for the hotels international dinner night, I had a great time prepping dinner for them and partying. Will definitely return if I come back to Tokyo.

The staff is very welcoming & helpful! I wasn't expecting this kind of service/behavior towards guests in a budget hotel but the japanese hospitality is very well appreciated! The location is 5 mins away from Ikebukoro station which is a huge plus for the accessibility. I very much recommend this accomodation!
Charchit C — Google review
This is a wonderful, budget friendly option in Tokyo. The room is small but we were only ever here for bedtime so we didn’t need much space. But they provide so much! Robes, disposable slippers, toothbrushes with toothpaste, combs, razors! We had a tiny fridge that we could keep drinks we bought from the neighboring 7-11 in as well! We also made good use of the on site washers and dryers after walking around in the rain and humidity. And the currency exchange machine in the lobby made it quick and easy for us to get yen on the go…the hotel location was just a quick walk away from the ikebukuro station as well, very convenient! The cleaning staff always made the room feel so fresh every night we returned too. We would love to stay here again next time we visit, it is a perfectly fine and affordable place to stay if you don’t need the extra frills that come with the more upscale places. Arigato, Sakura Hotel!!

Friendly staff, close to a major station, a big donki, a big parco and all the good stuff. However, the room had a stain on the floor and the bathroom smelled bad.

For what it is, it's very good. If you just want a basic room with working amenities for a decent price you'll get it here. Zero complaints about service
Kp P — Google review
We came here with friends recently! The staff is so helpful and the location is great! I would book this hotel again.
Kelly C — Google review
It’s not luxury but affordable and VERY clean. Air conditioned and rather quiet too. No complaints at all if you’re looking for a low cost place to stay that’s central and has amenities in the area. Very close to Ikebukuro station, a major node in the public transportation system. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Laundromat on site that includes detergent. I’d stay here again if I’m looking for a no frills option. As for the breakfast it’s not worth it. Better (albeit more costly) coffee shops around. Lots of restaurants too.

Located in the bustling heart of Central Tokyo, &AND HOSTEL AKIHABARA offers straightforward rooms and dorms with a minimalist tech-focused design. The hostel is conveniently situated within walking distance of popular tourist attractions and Akihabara station. While some guests appreciate the clean bathrooms and convenient location, others have noted downsides such as late check-in times and additional charges for amenities like towels and slippers.
I've stayed at &AND HOSTEL AKIHABARA three or four times now, and it's always been a great experience. The staff are incredibly friendly, the location is central and convenient, and the other guests have consistently been kind and respectful. The private rooms are surprisingly spacious — especially for Tokyo — and feel roomier than similarly priced business hotels like APA, though you do share the bathroom facilities. Even the lobby is a nice place to relax, which isn’t something you can say about every hostel. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay in Tokyo.

The staff was very friendly, they even helped me ship my suitcase to the next hotel after their work hours. The room was nice, I had a private room, can't say anything about the dorms. The common area is very chill and it was easy to meet new people there. Location is near the station, a few minutes walk and you can catch a train or subway.

Lovely stay, staff were so welcoming, special mention to kira and kana (I think that was the name-sorry I couldn't remember) but you were both so helpful and kind! My mum wasn't well and they were so both so helpful with trying to find a pharmacy and so helpful with booking taxis, thank you for your kindness! The hotel itself was great and good value for money, there is a nice sitting area and facilities for cooking etc, good location and near the metro and also lots to see and do in that area within walking distance.

The hostel is right outside of akihabara so the connection to the major lines is very good, while the hostel itself is located in a quiet area. The interior is very clean and modern and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They assisted me in booking a bus ticket. I had lots of nice conversations even late into the night sometimes and I made some friends along the way, so I'd say it's a perfect place for solo travelers but also very nice for groups. Would defenetly stay there again or just come by to say hi :)

Great stay at Focus Kuramae. We stayed 4 nights, in both a private room and dorms. Both were clean, well setup, quiet and comfortable. The amenities are also great, with showers and toilets super clean and well setup and the common room with all the equipment needed to store your goods in the fridge and cook if you'd like. Would definitely recommend if you want to stay in a cute and quiet area walking and easy transit distance from tourist attractions.

A hostel located in a quiet zone and a few minutes walking from the stations. Close to some cafeterias and having one of its own in the main floor. Given that they advertise having a sauna in its facilities, it is important to know that the cost is 10,000 Yen as it is a private space. It is understandable but misleading with the pictures as part of the hostel. The hostel is nice; however, it is a cheap hostel and it is reflected in the cleaning for stays longer than 2-3 nights. There is no change of sheets and dust can accumulate on the side of the bed through the days. Despite comments mentioning problems with smell (moist) & the AC unit (hot), the dorm room I stayed at had non of these; mainly duo to people opening the windows during the day & setting the AC at 22 during the night. The beds are okay as well as the pillow, and the space to sleep is spacious. You are provided with a basket to put your toiletries (at least on the female dorm). The hostel on its own is not friendly but if you sit down on the common area (the cafe), you can easily make friends. Mind that they reinforce check out time at 10 AM sharp by charging you 1,000 Yen. And you do have to present yourself at the reception to confirm or get charged.
Kari C — Google review
Bed bugs! Suspect this may not be news given half the place is unused with beds left unmade everywhere. I had to waste my only full day in Tokyo cleaning up after this mess. It seemed most of the hostel was checking out, yet I was last to leave by far longer than I was up before everyone. It was not possible to sleep being progressively bitten all night long. I missed out on almost everything I had planned to do. Blatant interfering, with trivally redundant prioritisation of others over my revolving around their problems all day didn't help in this. I also missed out on the remaining of my prepaid reservation. The hostel claimed no availability for changing rooms. I was literally forced to waste more time double booking & moving elsewhere. They offered a refund for a dictated cancellation, which is the least I deserve for my troubles, but although I clearly see the cancellation, at least in the sense of not physically not able ro stay there anymore, I am yet to see any refund. I suspect I now need a photo of every bed bug in existence for a refund. They witnessed the bites on my body - evidently visible all over my head, neck, legs and arms - upon interrogation, and I saw what I suspect to be pest control at the property. But never have I seen a refund for bed bugs, or a cancellation following check-in (bar civil emergency, but in such cases, hotels are arranged). The shower water is cold, but the weather is far too hot & I am too busy & tired to care. It is a slippery hazard zone. There's also no power (& thus no catching and snatching photos of bed bugs) - this is where I really start to feel treated as a victim. It's a shared bathroom, but they don't allow this to be used until after an unreasonably late check-in time. This leaves travellers drenched with sweat in what could be days-old attire, stinking out a small "common" area feeling more of a pest than a guest as it's all shared with a cafe/bar/who-knows-what of somewhat respectable-looking standard.

My boyfriend and I stayed in a private room for 4 nights during our Tokyo visit. The room is tiny but we just needed a place to sleep after being out all day so this was totally fine for us. Staff is friendly and everything was very clean. Shared bathroom and showers. Only downside is that you can hear noise from the hallway. This isn’t a party hostel tho and guests were respectful. Quiet and safe neighbourhood and walking distance to train stations, convenience stores and restaurants. I would recommend if you are on a budget!
Lena E — Google review
**★☆☆☆☆ The Ryanair of Hostels - Zero Empathy and Poor Air Quality** Focus Kuramae epitomizes the "budget airline" approach to hospitality - nickel-and-diming guests while providing minimal service with zero empathy. **Inflexible and Unreasonable Check-out Policy:** I was 30 minutes late for checkout due to my luggage handle breaking, forcing me to repack everything into another bag. Despite explaining this unfortunate situation, the staff showed absolutely no understanding or flexibility. When I asked for consideration given the circumstances, the receptionist simply said she wasn't the manager and couldn't ask her manager to consider my appeal - essentially refusing to even try to help. To add insult to injury, I was still charged a late checkout fee despite the legitimate reason for my delay. The reception's excuse was that late checkout would "delay cleaning operations" - yet the cleaning staff didn't even arrive until minutes before I was leaving, proving I caused zero actual delay to their schedule. **Unpleasant Sleep Environment:** If you have any sensitivity to smells, avoid this place entirely. The capsules are made from wood with a strong, musky odor that made breathing uncomfortable throughout the night. I spent hours struggling to fall asleep due to the overwhelming smell. **Bottom Line:** Focus Kuramae prioritizes rigid policies over basic human decency and guest experience. Like Ryanair, they'll charge you fees regardless of circumstances while hiding behind "it's not my decision" excuses. There are plenty of other hostels in Tokyo that offer better value and actually care about their guests. Save your money and book elsewhere - this place treats guests like walking wallets rather than human beings.

Loved every bit of this hostel! It was our first time trying a hostel in Japan, and we couldn’t be happier. After a chaotic experience at a hostel in Amsterdam, we were delighted by the cleanliness and organization here. Each ‘room’ has designated slippers and utility baskets, making it feel tidy and well-thought-out. The dorm has about 15 bunk beds, yet it felt very private and quiet. There are three toilets, two shower rooms, and three sinks, which made it super convenient. Throughout our stay, we only ran into one other person in the washroom area. The staff were amazing—always smiling, friendly, and incredibly helpful. A big bonus: I accidentally booked the wrong date through a third-party service, and they wouldn’t allow a cancellation or refund. I reached out to the hostel directly, and they went above and beyond to contact the third-party service on my behalf and sorted it out. So grateful for their kindness and understanding. Would definitely come back and highly recommend this place!

HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU is a stylish hotel in central Tokyo that offers sleek rooms with free Wi-Fi, a rooftop terrace, and a trendy cafe/bar. It provides a short-stay twist for international and domestic travelers looking for accommodation without the complexities of Japanese bureaucracy. The hotel's cozy environment, amenities like washing machines and a pool table, as well as its convenient location in a quiet neighborhood make it an attractive option for those visiting Tokyo.
This was a brilliant place to stay. The hotel itself is great - simple rooms but had everything you need, and excellent shared areas (cafe, lounge, games space, kids play area). There were nice touches throughout - such as handwritten guides to the area, origami puzzles for kids, free beer everyday at 6pm - that made the hotel feel very welcoming and a great respite from the Tokyo heat! Absolutely loved the area too - Ueno is a slightly calmer neighbourhood (although still well connected) and full of museums, galleries and independent shops. Great value and location - would recommend.

This is a great hotel/hostel for folks looking to be close to the happenings while being in a more residential area. The hotel is a quick walk to the metro and nice restaurants. The hotel cafe is also a great place to catch a burger and getting the room with breakfast included has been a nice way to start our mornings. The staff are super friendly and accommodating! Always willing to help. We have really been enjoying our stay and would recommend to folks visiting Tokyo.

One of the best hostel in the world. The staffs are kind, the atmosphere is really nice, clean, tidy and organized everywhere. It's conveniently located near Ueno Station, but in a quiet residential area so our sleep won't be disturbed. The rooms are spacious, the bunk beds are comfortable, there are lockers for each guest, and there is plenty of storage space. The kitchen and dining space are also spacious and beautiful, various kitchen tools are provided (so we can enjoy cooking). I stayed the hostel just one night when I came back to Japan, and I thought that I wish I could stay here longer. I highly recommend this hostel for your stay when visiting Tokyo.

Decent hostel, but noise and inconsiderate roommates is a serious problem. Had somebody come in after midnight and loudly ate food and munched on potato chips on his bed for an hour. Another person snored through the whole night at such a volume that ear plugs didn't help. I checked out of the hostel one day early and requested a partial refund for the final night, since I would not be sleeping at the hostel, but the workers at the front desk refused, which I thought was very disappointing, given the experience I had.

The amenities are very modern and clean, you’ll have everything you need and more! The staff is super friendly, they helped me navigate a few doubts I had to move around the city. They have a cafe/restaurant which is great if you need a quick affordable snack. The location is also perfect, very close to subway stations and a few convenience stores around the area. The neighborhood is quiet, beautiful and safe.

The reception, communal space, and cafe are all nice. Staff members are friendly and speak English. However the room itself was disappointing. Booked a “large” private room with bathroom, but it is not as nice as the picture. The room was stinky, and I could not open the window without letting mosquitos in. Bathroom was not that clean, with mold and a dirty shower curtain.

The cleanliness could be much better (pictured: stained sheets and mold growing in the private unit bathroom) The bathroom pictured on their booking site appears larger with more counter space. It’s very much a place catered to millennial and wfh folks. Some staff are acting so pretentious and unwelcoming to be honest.

The Share Hotels Lyuro Tokyo Kiyosumi is a trendy hotel/hostel hybrid situated along the Sumida River, just an 11-minute walk from Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station. Boasting a contemporary industrial-chic style, it offers various room types to accommodate different budgets, including mixed or female-only dorms with capsule-style bunk beds and private rooms with en-suite facilities.
I had a wonderful stay here. The staff were genuinely warm and always ready to help with a smile. Chihiro (ちひろ) was especially kind, helping me adjust my travel plans. It’s a great spot if you’re solo traveling and prefer a peaceful location outside the city center — still easy to get around if you don’t mind a bit of walking. Plus, the view of the Skytree is stunning!

A modern and well-maintained hotel with a clean and comfortable bathroom. Guests can conveniently store their luggage before check-in or after check-out. The on-site restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with a lovely view of the river. The staff is exceptionally polite and professional. However, the location is a bit distant from public transportation.

Private rooms is super cool, with good view on the river. Rooms is big, not only for Japan, at least for this price. If you are runner there is running near the river. I liked their trying to be sustainable. I definitely will stay again there.

We stayed in a river view room. The hotel is quiet and calm and a bit out of the way which makes it a great place to unwind after a day of exploring Tokyo. The neighbourhood around it is a very interesting place to walk around. I will definitely look this place up next time I’m travelling to Tokyo.

Great price. The size of the room was manageable. Lovely views on the water. The location was a bit far from the subway station. But it's a quiet location with not many tourists, which I appreciate. Amazing service and loved the cafe.

We stayed here towards the tail end side of our trip. Love the design of the hotel. Staff were helpful and breakfast at Clann was a great way to start the day. Our room was clean, linens has no weird smells. The shared areas always had someone cleaning in the morning and the showers were well kept. Rarely heard our neighbors at night for any light sleepers. It is a bit of a walk from the station. The night time view of the river and Tokyo Skytree was lovely.
Nhubinh N — Google review
The service is excellent !! They provide towel, razor, Q-tip … The location is just ok, subway is a bit far away but there is a bus very convenient near the hotel though. The room in the dormitory is nice but strangely it can be very very hot inside. I had to let the room open to avoid suffocating. But overall it was great.

I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! Located in a quiet neighborhood, it gave me the feeling of being a local as I walked around. There are plenty of great places to eat nearby, and the local supermarket offers a variety of ready-to-eat foods at half price late at night. I felt completely safe walking around by myself, even at night. The hostel itself was very nice. Although our room only had a small window, it was more than enough for our needs. There was ample space to open two large suitcases, and everything was spotless. The shared washroom was always clean, and I never had to wait for a shower despite the hotel being mostly booked. The front desk staff was friendly and spoke perfect English, which made check-in and any inquiries super easy. Overall, a very comfortable and convenient stay—I’d definitely recommend it!

“I left after one night.” eventually i left after just one night. originally i was booked from 17 may to 19 may. however after just one night i really need to go. staff and facility are amazing nothing wrong. but my room, something else happen down there. i was stay in 103, at first it look a quite roomy you can put 2/3 luggage no problem. but, the smell it was like a sewers. it was dusty, it was smelly, it was too gloomy and dirty. on the floor so many rubber band here and there. and it's not comfortable. really. and i just check my self out on 18 may. now I'm on other hotel. I don't know something wrong in that very room. something hard to explain. makes you wanna get out and never come back

The Staff working there are super friendly and helpful! On the day of our checkout we were giving free umbrellas because it was pouring outside and we didnt have any. The rooms as good enough for what they are for. To go, shower, eat, sleep. The beds are comfortable. If you need more towels you can ask. The bathrooms are clean and shared, you can find a bathroom on each floor. If you go to japan to stay at a hotel you might not find it to be the best, but if you are spending most of your time sightseeing, its perfectly suitable to come back to, freshen up or nap or sleep! Would stay again!

Amazing hostel in Tokyo. The room, hall, rest rooms, all clean and comfortable. The staff is helpful. They brings our luggages to the room before we go back to the hostel and check in. Besides, the room is large, I think it larger double than the Ohwa hostel that I've stayed before. Breakfast are served by soup and bread with jam in the first floor.
Phương T — Google review
Hosts at the lobby were kind and welcoming. We loved the general atmosphere of the hostel and enjoyed our stay. My husband and I booked a room with a double bed and stayed 3 nights. Hostel is technologic, there are air purifiers in the rooms and the corridors. We didn’t have trouble finding the place with the help of google maps and we walked approximately 8 mins from the train station.

Amazing place. Everything is really well organized. We had a hard time with loud people in the lobby and they tried to help the situation! (Please be quiet in the common areas ;) thank you for everything, see you soon again! 🥰

Reasonable price. Shampoo and soaps are high quality. Staffs help you in luggage storage which is free of charge for check in date. The room has ample space for you to re-arrange your luggage.

A great stay with fantastic location. The nearby subway takes you to the important places - Akihabara, Ginza, Roppongi, and Hatchobori (to change to the JR local train for Disneyland). The places is very clean, and equipped with the basic kitchen tools. There's a lift inside the building. The private room for two is spacious and comfortable, with ample space for luggage parking.

Beagle Tokyo Hostel & Apartment is a laid-back accommodation option offering streamlined dorms and private rooms, along with a casual restaurant and free Wi-Fi. Conveniently located near Haneda Airport, it's an ideal choice for travelers with early flights or late arrivals. The hostel boasts a simple, modern design and a relaxed atmosphere, making it perfect for a restful stopover. Guests can easily access public transportation to explore the city center.
Great for a quick transition from airport ( we came from Haneda to the Shinkansen next day to start your traveling adventure. We had the couples room… it was great value for a late check in ( they have 24hr check in ) and an early departure to the train station ( literally 2 minutes walk ) see my pic. The room was great value. After a long haul flight, I was happy to have my own bedspace to stretch out in and sleep peacefully. The bed space was very spacious. It had a light, fan shelving, USB access, great pillow and comfortable mattress. My husband slept in the bed space above me and I did not hear him at all. I loved it. Our little couples room had a Bathroom amenity no shower. Showers were on the same level for males. I had to go downstairs for the shower that was no problem. It was very quiet late at night so I actually enjoyed the peace and ability to be able to wash myself and just get ready for bed. I can definitely recommend this hotel. It had a great Teppanyaki bar adjoining it and was very close to other food options for a late night, snack or breakfast if you choose to go for a wonder. My only negative would be that the staff at the counter I found to be not very friendly. Perhaps it was because we were late at night. But it felt like they were bored and didn’t want to be there. They really didn’t Offer us any help. And we will virtually left to our own devices. Perhaps that is typical for this style of accommodation. I’m not sure but after a long flight, it would’ve been nice to be greeted with a smile.

For the price, this was definitely worth it! A little hard to find at first, but it was an enjoyable stay. Check-in and check-out were straightforward and easy. My room was clean and comfortable. I only stayed for one night, but I would return here and recommend it!

For who is consider for Family room, hostel that price is equal to Hotel but if you need space here could help. We have baby 1 yr old which they price for the baby. Location is so convenience from Haneda airport. Has late check-in

The location is great for Haneda Airport layovers but not great for exploring the city every day. Security felt good plus a bike lock to secure your large suitcases to the ladder. No atmosphere, most people here seem to be transiting and the common room was empty or silent all the time. Lots of amenities provided, bed and linen was very comfy, felt very private. Bathrooms and bedrooms very clean! A little warm on some nights and not much space inside the capsule.
Adam T — Google review
The hostel is near the airport. My toilet and kitchen area are very clean. The bunk bed are comfy too
Yumi N — Google review
I really liked staying here in one of the "comfort" rooms where there are four cubicle -style capsule beds. They have high ceilings and my bed was very comfortable. There is plenty of space for luggage and an en suite toilet and sink. On the 2nd floor is a lounge area you can warm up food in as well as vending machines and laundry machines. This same floor also has women's toilets and showers. It's also conveniently located near the Otorii train station to get to and from the airport. Staff was really nice and everything was super clean! I would definitely stay here again

This place is perhaps the best capsule hotel I have ever stayed. My flight arrived Haneda Airport pass 1 am, took Didi to there. The counter had my document ready and immediately checked me in. The ground floor has a bar so many local were drinking and party but the noise couldn't be here from level 2 onwards. The capsule fits a single bed perfectly, it is soft and comfortable. The shower has strong shower head and hot water easily. They also have vending machine washers to use with coins yen. Not to forget that is near a metro station.

Serviced accommodation
Obi Hostel is a modern and stylish accommodation located in the charming Nihonbashi area of Tokyo. It offers utilitarian dorms, a casual cafe/bar, and a communal kitchen for guests to use. The hostel's design blends historical surroundings with contemporary lifestyle, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that appeals to young travelers and families. Conveniently situated near stations and with a konbini next door, it provides easy access to Tokyo's bustling city center.
This location is centered around 3 commonly used train lines where one of it is a direct line to the airport. There are so many Lawson and 7/11 and family mart within walking distance. What even is more amazing is the staff. They are quite chill and speaks English very fluently. This is the first place that is okay with me taking a shower after I check out and after i stored my luggage there as my flight is at night. Shower rooms is too little imo, 2 for males and 2 for females I think. I also noticed that this place has so many foreigners from all over places. If you want to make friends, this place makes it more accessible for you. Disadvantage is there is no longue to hang out other than the sofa table area behind the reception
Froghead F — Google review
The one thing I expect from a guesthouse besides sleep is to feel welcome and obi hostel failed at that. The cheap price and presence of a gym help justify the military comfort and complete absence of space for the guests to relax, but not the hostility of the staff. Plus: Great location next to akihabara Gym is really good and cheap, I definitely appreciated my morning gym there. It has everything you need. Beds are quite low comfort but for the price I'm not complaining. Bad: Don't expect to stay during the day unless you stay in your bed because you have to evacuate all the tables for the restaurant's guests. The ambiance turns somewhat hostile approaching noon. Lockers sometimes get jammed or something so you have to ask for them to unlock it. It happened to several people during my one night stay so it is probably something with the lockers. Worst part: Telling me that it's my fault the locker got jammed and that I got the numbers wrong and leaving without a word while I'm still talking was straight up disrespectful. I talked for 10 seconds, your patience can handle it. When you're used to travelling in guesthouses you don't just forget the 4 digits pin you just set literally 5 minutes ago on the locker containing all your valuables, twice in a row in less than half an hour..... I'd be aware if it was the kind of thing I do.
Thomas F — Google review
In respect to the price its a great place. I was able to get two nights of stay including breakfast and the gym usage for 48 Euros which is not bad. The gym is decent and you can use it 24/7 !!!!!!!!. It does get full though at around 7 pm. The location is perfect with a close subway station to the city. The breakfast was very healthy and tasty. The only critique is perhaps the sleeping area itself. If you are willing so sacrifice a little bit of comfort than this is a perfect place to stay. Otherwise really good. There is convenient store nearby and the ground floor has a good siting area to get any planning or working done.
Alexander B — Google review
Staff were lovely, just the hostel feels like a afterthought. The dorm was very cramped. No room really to organise things. There seems to be permanent people also living in the dorm. It can be noisy as it’s one long room right next to the bathroom. The person next to me in the bunk was playing audio from the phone all night so that didn’t help with my sleep. The bathrooms felt small, only a few toilets and sinks. There’s no really common area at all. They say you can use one of the tables in the restaurant below but it was always taken. So you can seem to only chill in the bed really. Location was ok, it’s a quiet business area but close to the trains so you can go anywhere really. Maybe good for one night if you know what to expect but just don’t expect the same facilities that you get at other hostels.
Caleb V — Google review
I stayed at Obi Hostel with my sister for four days and can honestly say it was the worst place I’ve stayed in Japan — and this was my fourth trip, so I’ve been to plenty of hostels and hotels. To start with the few positives: the gym was open 24/7 and surprisingly well-equipped for its size. I used it every day. The location is also decent — about a 20-minute walk to Akihabara and close to a subway station. Unfortunately, that’s where the good part ends. There’s no real lounge area for guests, since the ground floor is basically a café for outside visitors until 11 p.m. That means there’s nowhere to relax or talk quietly — everyone ends up stuck in their bunks, which makes the dorms noisy and uncomfortable for anyone trying to sleep. The beds creak with every little movement, you can hear people using the toilets, and the bunks get unbearably hot with no airflow at all. During my entire stay, I never once saw the showers or bathrooms cleaned. Sheets and towels weren’t replaced, and no slippers were provided, unlike every other hostel I stayed at in Japan. The beds and pillows were also extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the receptionist (Miyabi) was needlessly rude — when I politely asked where the nearest smoking area was, she just gave me a disgusted look and said, “I don’t smoke.” Not exactly helpful. Overall, it felt like a rip-off. Unless you desperately need access to a 24-hour gym and can’t find anywhere else, avoid this place. You’re better off booking any other hostel and getting a day pass at a nearby gym — you’ll sleep better, stay cleaner, and have a much nicer experience.
Katharina H — Google review
This was my first hostel experience and it was fantastic Very quiet, has a gym, free towel service, affordable washing machines, included soaps in the showers, and the host and hostess downstairs are both very well mannered and amicable to helping you find things nearby. It's in a less touristy location so you get to experience more of the non vacation Tokyo which is exactly what I was looking for.

Everyone at obi hostel was inviting, caring and friendly, I had a lot of fun at obi. A lot more then other hostels because they treated me so good Just like family which was nice being so far from home 🇨🇦 The facilities were also very good, very clean and looked after daily! Thank you all for making my trip great! I willbe back !

The room was very crammed and it felt like someone was permanently living in the dorm as it had a closed curtain area. The balcony you couldnt access and it didnt feel very safe as the door would constantly be left open. The room also didnt have carpet or tiles it was just concrete. Stayed in March 2025.

Plat Hostel Keikyu Haneda Home is a budget-friendly accommodation option near Haneda Airport and Ota City in Tokyo. The hostel offers clean and spacious pod-style dorms in mixed or female-only settings, as well as private rooms for up to four people. The dorms feature privacy curtains, reading lights, shelves, electrical outlets, and under-bed storage. Guests appreciate the cozy atmosphere and the friendly, English-speaking staff who are accommodating and helpful.
Really good hostel, very clean and had everything we needed. Pods were a good size and had a small locker for valuables. Showers had products and you got a towel which was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a kitchen but we went out for dinner, lots of places in walking distance, and two shops. We stayed here before an early flight and it was perfect for what we needed. Great facilities, and they had a map of the immediate area with recommendations. The only thing I would recommend to the staff is to put a sign up reminding guests that certain things like drying your hair, being loud with bags etc, might not be appropriate after certain times. 1.30am is not the time to dry your hair for five minutes!
Harriet — Google review
I had a wonderful experience! My flight arrived very late at night, but the hostel was accommodating and allowed me to flexibly arrive whatever time I could by using the automated check-in/out machine. It was easy to use, and had instructions in English too. Like other reviews have noted, it’s very clean for a hostel and also provides towels and slippers free of charge. There are plenty of toilets and showers kept to good working standard as well as hairdryers for use. The dormitory was the perfect temperature, and each bed has a blackout blind divider for privacy and light reduction. As a female solo traveller, I felt completely safe in the female dormitory and walking about the hostel by myself. The rooms have key cards, and the front door is locked by a code. There are also plenty of common spaces to relax in like the lobby or corridors, and there are chargers here if you want to stay in these areas for a bit instead of chilling in the dorm. It was very easy to get to from the airport, either a 30 minute straight walk out of Terminal 3, or you can take a taxi. My S-Ride taxi was ¥1,300 at 00:30am on Thursday morning. I always received a prompt response when emailing staff before my visit, and was kindly greeted in the morning by a pleasant receptionist. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from a hostel like this! 🫶🏼 Edit: There’s also an airport shuttle bus stop that goes from right outside the hostel too!

This place was great for a quick stay before heading to Haneda airport. The accommodation is very clean and the capsule beds are comfortable. There is a nice kitchen you can use and plenty of restaurants nearby. It’s super convenient to the airport too and they can store your luggage if you need.

Very clean quite and a lovely feel to the place. Not much room for luggage. Free towel hand towel toothbrush tea coffee. Shower unreal so good. 5pm stated book in. I sent email required to book in earlier. You can leave bags in lounge. So I booked in at 4pm. I find this a rediculous time. Out by 10am from somewhere and can't stop till 5pm. The hostel is quite new. I feel it is 20minutes to shopping g areas and railways. I did like this hostel but probably would have to pick somewhere a little closer to city

Good for one night if you need place close to the Haneda Airport! Close to the main door there is a bus stop. You can check-in and check-out on your own thanks to the machine standing at the entrance. There is an elevator, so you can easily take your luggage up. Unfortunately, you can not leave it at the reception even after checking in. Shower rooms for ladies are separated. However, hair dryers are in different place, close to the toilets. I had an impression that one bin in ladies common room was not enough. Also the space for luggage (under beds) might not be enough when all beds are booked.
Kinga L — Google review
I had hotels booked for rest of my stay but needed a cheap place to stay for overnight after a late night flight. This is nice in that sense. Dorms and bathrooms along with showers are clean. You are provided all necessary amenities. And the sleeping area has a privacy screen so that helps. Decent for short trips.

Budget Japanese inn
Ace Inn Shinjuku is a no-frills hostel located in the lively neighborhood of Tokyo. It's popular among budget travelers and backpackers due to its affordability and convenient location near shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The hostel offers shared kitchenettes, a dining area, and a TV lounge along with free Wi-Fi. Guests have praised the cleanliness and safety of the female-only bunk bed floor as well as the accommodating staff.
Great capsule hotel in Tokyo! Can be loud in the rooms, but it’s a lot better than other options around shinjuku! it’s important to note that the mattresses are extremely thin, so it is close to sleeping on the ground. But the location and service makes up for it in my opinion. The aircon in the rooms are both good in the winter and the summer, so don’t be afraid for cold/hot nights!
Mads R — Google review
Worst hostel I've seen, smell is awful on all floors, bathrooms are so dirty I would rather walk 30 minutes before using these. And that's not mentioning the broken showers, clogged drains that flood, broken chairs in the common area, nasty kitchen with other people's dishes, not cleaned capsule (not even sure if the sheets were changed), loud and obnoxious people on the same floor, no room for storing bags, horrible elevator that closes on you so fast. Don't get tricked into putting a payment in advance, I stayed at way nicer places for the same price in other parts of Japan.
Andrew J — Google review
I stayed at this hostel for a little over 2 weeks. In that time, I can safely say I've gotten an in-depth look at what this hostel has to offer. I pre-booked my hostel stay and I don't think the price was all too bad. Location-wise, Ace Inn is in a great spot, right next to Akebonobashi station and being close enough to Shinjuku for a not-so unpleasant walk. Getting elsewhere in Tokyo takes very little time, or money, to do. Cleanliness is where this place takes a bit of a nosedive, thanks in no small part to what seems like negligence from the owner/landlord, seemingly not wanting to invest the money to repair broken down laundry machines, doors, and even toilets on the various floors. The staff are all fantastic, and are the heart of Ace Inn. Willing to bend over backwards to solve issues that guests alert them to, they clearly love their job and/or the clientele. They deserve more support from upper management. The facilities have a lot to offer, multiple lobbies (ground and 9th floor), a laundry room in the basement, multiple appliances in either lobby to cook food with, a luggage storage area, and more. All in all, this hostel was a pleasant stay, and all the major negative points were generally tied to troublemakers and drunks who damaged property or did not pick up after themselves. Also, they could really use a TV on the ground floor for those who want to relax there.
Olivier P — Google review
The location was great. I’ve spent time before in the area, so was a good shout for my last few days in Japan. The metro is close by on both sides of the road. It was basic, but reasonable for the price. The room has to be addressed though by Management. As I’ve read many comments regarding the hot, stuffy air in the room. It was difficult to sleep and only 20 degrees. That would be unbearable in summer. 100% I also agree at other comments regarding the black female receptionist. At check in, she was demanding, rude and i felt she was abrupt and not pleasant. There was a male receptionist the following day who was very helpful and informative. My summary though, I would return if the air conditioning was improved. Maybe the lady staff member could benefit from re training and how to treat guests on arrival. It’s the last thing you want after such a long few days travelling to get to the country.
Marc M — Google review
Definitely wouldn’t recommend for women travellers, male worker entered the female only dorm multiple times whilst we were changing without knocking. Also had to walk past the front desk and lobby in towel after every shower booooo. Also ants everywhere and pretty poor conditions for the price. Also cockroaches.
Ashley R — Google review
The worst hostel in Japan, without a doubt. It smells awful, everything is neglected and dirty. The atmosphere feels like it’s stuck 100 years in the past. I don’t recommend anyone to stay here. Better to pay two dollars more and get a decent hostel.
Tal C — Google review
Really bad experience, I booked 4 nights and didn’t moove because they demand payed up front. I wonder why. The sheets were cleaned but the amount of dust and garbage around the matress was gross. It’s impossible, they don’t clean for more than months for the amnount of dust on it. Toilets igual, some out of order. Other there was a spilled basket with garbage on the female toilet that was there like that for more than 24 hours, a proof they don’t clean. The toilets don’t have light, you pray before you go there. The smell in the rooms is really bad. It’s the worst capsule hotel I have haver been in Japan and I was in many places before. Even the public areas aren’t cleaned enough. The showers have mold in every corner. The tapestries are old and full of dust, never seen water in their life. Forget the location and find another place, this doesn’t meet the basic cleanless standards.
Susana D — Google review
I had a good sleeping experience in the basic mixed dorm. The boxes are pretty big and they provide a good noise isolation from one another. The bedding is on the more traditional japanese style so pretty hard but you get used to it. The toilets and bathrooms of the sixth floor were pretty gross and not cleaned daily which made me uncomfortable but don't prevent you from getting some rest I guess. There aren't enough showers in the basement and some people take too long. I'd say it's okay for the price but they should clean it more often.

Hmmm what can I say about this Hostel except for AMAZING!! I think this Hostel is what I thought of Japanese and Japan in general. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The facilities??? Man they have everything! The lounge on 6th floor is a good place to chill. Super clean, super accommodating hostel. Definitely one of the best hostel I’ve ever been and the best one so far in Japan!! My only regret is that I stayed only 3 nights instead of the full week I had in Tokyo.

One of the worst hostels I've stayed in during my 3 month Asia trip. Deceiving marketing on Agoda. They don't mention clearly that no towels are provided, so I couldn't even take a shower my first night after a 5-hr flight. Washrooms in the guest rooms have no divider at the top, so you can hear everything your guestmates are doing. There's never any soap in the dispensers. Guest rooms have terrible ventilation. Rooms are divided by the cheapest thinnest plywood. There's mold everywhere. Staff are far too laidback and casual (AKA unprofessional). Very unsanitary hostel. Location is decent, but honestly hard to find a place in Tokyo that's a bad location. Area is very quiet and boring (which can be a plus if that's for you).
Alex L — Google review
Location isn’t too far from the stations, the staff are kind and speaks good English. Toilets and bathing rooms are all kept clean, and the lounge is a great place to relax and make friends, however the sink sometimes gets clogged by leftovers, maybe put up a sign and/or use a net so that the staff or others don’t have to clean it up. Also they provide free earplugs, which is very very helpful if a roommate snores. Definitely a great place for the price.

Stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed my experience. The only bad thing I found was that there were flies in the shower in the basement. I wasn't really a big problem but nonetheless. The space within the beds were incredibly warm, not the best in the summer but bearable. Other than that the place was clean and well operated.
Alan L — Google review
Staff are friendly and rooms are clean but basic. There are mould and flies in the shower room. They need to remove dust from the fan so steam can escape, and unclog the drain to get rid of the flies. I don't know why they haven't considering they clean every day.
Chris S — Google review
It was a very good place in general especially if you are on a budget. The staff was nice. It was quiet and clean and close to a train station and not too far from touristy spots.
Pascal P — Google review
Comfy bed, I appreciated the lamp and mirror inside the bunk as well as the outlets. Staff was great. Everything was pretty clean. The showers are on a different floor so it can be kind of annoying to take the elevator or stairs down to the basement just to shower. The dorms are small so there's little space for anyone to put their luggage. It also seemed like any empty space that could've been used by guests to keep their luggage was filled with random stuff like bags and boxes in a huge pile. No talking in the dorms so everyone was quiet and ignored each other. Fairly good location.
Jordan — Google review
This was a great hostel! It was so close to the skytree (30 minute walk) and you could see it on the balcony as well. They provide slippers, and if you’re staying for 7 days they provide a free towel. The staff can speak english and are helpful and friendly. The ginza line and asakusa line are super close and everywhere you turn there’s a family mart or 7-11. There are also many cheap restaurants around the area. I stayed in the all girls, the bed itself was comfy and spacious, didn’t get too stuffy or hot for me personally. Having the safe helped a lot inside, and the bathrooms were clean and nice as well. You can keep your luggage on the main floor, even when you check out till 11pm. I felt safe in this hostel and even in the area around it. The showers were clean and provided the usuals; shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The amenities in the kitchen were great; kettle, cups, plates, fridge, pot, single stovetop, and a filterized tap. The only “cons” would be the pillow was very flat, and if the rooms are fully booked the space for luggage inside the rooms is very small.

Nestled in Tokyo's Kuramae neighborhood, &AND Hostel Kuramae West offers a unique blend of modern comfort and traditional Japanese aesthetics. The hostel features streamlined dorms and private rooms, providing a cozy stay with a communal atmosphere that encourages interaction among guests. Its location allows travelers to experience the local artisanal shops and cafes while being away from the city's hustle. Guests can enjoy the convenience of a lounge, bar, and coffee house for relaxation or work.
Such a wonderful, clean, and comfortable hostel! The bed cubbies were well fitted and the bathrooms so clean. Best pressure in a shower ever! The curtains at the end of the bed blocked out nearly all the light. A lovely lounge area downstairs to relax in in the morning or evening. And the location is perfect - a serene neighborhood with loads of restaurants around and close to transport. We felt very peaceful and safe, a perfect first stop for our first time in Japan after a long journey from the UK <3

The room exceeded our expectations in terms of size - the photos didn't do it justice. It was spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated, with plenty of lighting options, including lamps and dimmer switches. The shower was warm and had great water pressure. With multiple showers and toilets on our floor, we never had to wait. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, offering cold water and tea in the lobby. They even kindly stored our bags for free for a few hours after we checked out.

Fine for our needs. Room was clean. Amenities are clean. Fifth floor had adequate bathrooms and showers. However keep in mind it is a hostel, the amenities are not as generous as for a hotel. There are more people in a smaller space. I found it hard to work at all in the downstairs area. Staff were helpful and polite. No problems there. Also it is somehow between a few stations and not all that close to any. Doable walks tho for normal people. The window handle was basically broken. The door to our room was not noise proof of even light proof. We literally have a whole int he door that's patched over with a thin piece of wood. Doesn't do much for noise. Thankfully the top floor didn't have super active guests.

The hostel is very clean and has all the facilities one could need (laundry, storage, umbrella rental, free shampoo etc). The staff is very friendly and helpful. They helped me find a cheap gym. The hostel doesn’t have a very social vibe however. If you’re solo and looking to meet people it may be harder. It’s very quiet though, so it’s easy to get rest.

33€/night for 2 people in "Concept room"/Deluxe double room with shared bathroom. Pros/positive: Very good value for money (in Tokyo). Friendly staff. Clean, spacious room. Probably the biggest budget accommodation room we had in Japan. Well-equipped room with coat hangers, TV, bin, fridge, several lamps, AC, "mirror fit" workout gadget, chair.. Clean bathroom areas with toiletries. Clean, comfortable common areas with free coffee/tea, access to microwave/toaster/fridge, electrical outlets at most tables. Quiet, non touristy area, close to metro station. Asakusa in walking distance. Elevator. Cons/negative: AC flap adjustment broken. The Airstream was pointed directly at the bed. Worst was the staff reaction, offering no help or compensation. Told me air shouldn't be pointed at smoke detector because of a fire or something like this, but there weren't even any sensors around the AC. In general, you can't expect the extreme hospitality and politeness here, which is shown in many Japanese establishments. Bed was a futon on the floor and rather uncomfortable. The only curtain barely blocked light and it was really bright, difficult to sleep. The mirror fit was either broken or I simply couldn't get it to start. Either way, be aware that there's a mirror with a big camera in your room..

A good budget stay in Tokyo ; clean and comfortable, the private rooms had a sink which is very much appreciated! Not a super social hostel, but if you’re traveling with someone or are just looking for a quiet place to sleep, this is a good deal
Marie-Eve B — Google review
It was one of the cheapest options we found for Tokyo but was still £320 for 5 nights, so not as budget as hostels we are used to, but quite cheap for Japan. We had a standard double room with shared bathroom. The room was very small and difficult to move around in as a couple as most of the floor space is taken up by a mattress on the floor. There’s no storage beyond two hangers on the wall (which we used for our towels) so can quite easily get messy. Our aircon worked well but the room smelled really badly of damp. We realised that the smell was actually the demumidifier machine, so we turned it off, but that means the room was likely too humid. We found the bed comfy enough and thankfully slept quite well however there’s only a very flimsy curtain over the window so it’s really really bright. You need an eye mask to sleep. The showers and toilets were always clean and we never had to wait to use one, so that was a plus. Was grateful to have a sink in the room itself. Hairdryers in each bathroom provided. We loved the Kuramae area though and would recommend staying there to avoid the chaos of Shibuya and Shinjuku. Walkable to Asakusa and very close to multiple metro lines, so we found very convenient. Would recommend for budget travellers if they can get a cheap price.

Much better place than I expected, the lobby is very chilly, room is quiet and clean. The staffs are very nice and friendly (especially a girl has been to Taiwan sorry forget to ask her name) This is my first time visit hostel in Japan, I think I will keep visiting hostel in the future! But have to be aware that the location might be not too convenient to some ppl

Hotel
Manga Art Hotel in Tokyo is a capsule hotel that caters to manga enthusiasts and those interested in Japanese popular culture. The staff has reviewed all the books available in both English and Japanese, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the Otaku world. Upon arrival, guests are required to read the rulebook, fill out a form, and use a tablet for video check-in service. The location is conveniently situated within walking distance from Akihabara station, making it easily accessible for travelers.
I stayed here for a night last Summer. Booked online at a discounted price. I was confused at first searching for the entrance. A guy at the restaurant showed the elevator. Checking-in uses a voice and screen just outside the entrance. This is a great place to stay for a female solo traveler like me. I met few gals here from other countries and had fun chatting with them. The shower might be a little narrow if you are big built. No problem for me. I will stay here again if I'll have a chance.
Grace C — Google review
Minimalist, clean, and a solid manga selection for both English and Japanese speakers. I really enjoyed the variety. There was always a series to suit whatever I was in the mood for over the course of my stay. As an introvert, I also appreciate the minimal interaction with staff and other guests. The fans in each pod help a ton, and the size is comfortable. I am 5' 7" (170cm) and had no issues. Having low cost and/or free amenities is a bonus too. Two concerns: 1. I was placed in the bunk nearest the entrance. While I'm a heavy sleeper so the noise from the door and foot traffic didn't bother me, the table where people eat was also directly outside my bunk. Inhaling the stench of other people's foods while trying to fall asleep made me feel a little nauseous. If you plan to stay her, PLEASE dine outside the main lodging room (maybe at the tables in the 7-11 across the street?) for the sake of other guests 🥺 2. While there are a few train stations close by, the nearest large stations are more of a hike than one would expect from lodgings in Tokyo. This isn't a huge deal if you use luggage transport services, but something to note if you plan on exploring / doing tourist things

You check in online through facebook messenger. The rooms are smaller than other hostels and cabins I've stayed at. The height is very low. I was not able to sit upright (I'm 5'5). It gets very hot, even with the fan. I noticed my bunk smelled very fishy when I got there. Turns out it was the odour from the towel. There is no one on site to speak to if there are any issues. Luckily, I was only staying for one night. Very disappointing experience overall.
Trang L — Google review
I enjoyed my stay here. The only thing that bothered me was my bed 416 right in front of the entrance has no under bed luggage space. I had to leave my bags out in the way. I tried my best to keep them within my area but there’s only so much I could do. During my stay everyone was quiet and respectful. I was worried about having the bed in front of the entrance because I’m a light sleeper but I had no issues. The ac and fans throughout the place kept everything cool. I would stay again if I could get a bottom bunk! Pros: - Comfy bed! - quiet area - around the corner from the train station and 7/11 - two blocks from the laundry Cons: - no common area - shower doesn’t stay warm - not many English manga selections

Chiyoda city is a good point to travel around tokyo and the hotel is right in the spot close to metro and bus stations. This place has everything you need and is comfy. You cannot expect to have a full fledged hotel room experience and put low rating. If you want that kinda of experience go to a expensive hotel instead. This was super comfy and budget friendly place.
Anirudh V — Google review
Great location, very cool concept. Tons of manga in several languages and a couple small nooks for reading. The beds were comfortable and it was actually pretty quiet other than some people snoring. The lights and air conditioning (which some others have mentioned) didn’t bother me. The main thing was that both the bunk and the main sleeping area smelled like feet the entire time womp womp
Kyler B — Google review
I had a great experience staying in this hotel! There was a surprisingly large amount of English manga (Girl from the other side, To your eternity, Made in abyss, Ten count, My love story, Princess jellyfish...) and even more manga in Japanese of course! So whether you know Japanese or not, I think it's definitely worth a stay if you're a fan of manga :3 It's a capsule style hotel so the rooms are very small, I could just barely sit with my back straight(164cm tall). The bed was suuuper comfortable though! I slept so well my whole 5 night stay lol. However, not a lot of airflow gets into the capsule if you keep the curtain closed all the time, so it can get pretty hot. Thankfully, there is a little fan in every room which does help a fair bit. For the most part people were very quiet, besides a little coughing every now and again, but that happens. There is also a music venue downstairs, so if you are an early sleeper that might bother some people... For me earplugs did the trick, so I didn't mind it. Speaking of earplugs, you can get those for free, as well as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razors, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and free towels to use. The toilets were clean and so were the showers. Overall a great experience in my opinion :)

I had a 14-hour overnight layover at Haneda so I decided to spend the night downtown. I picked this place because it was ~$20 for a night at time of booking. You have to check in with a tablet in front of the elevator using a skype call, thankfully available in English. If you want pajamas you can pay Y200 through a website (it's a trust system, but it's also Japan so you might as well.) The capsule hotel takes up two floors of a small office tower, one each for male and female guests. As the name and website suggest, all the capsules are lined with shelves of manga in both Japanese and English for your bedtime reading. Toilet and shower facilities are included, basic and clean with soap, shampoo and towels available. If you want to bring in food there's a small alcove with a couple of seats where you can eat/drink. Those were taken when I checked in fairly late at night but there was also a chair by the window at the end of the 'hallway'. If I have to nitpick one thing it's the provided safe. It's an AmazonBasics safe with 0000 as the default code. I know this because I accidentally locked my wallet inside without setting a code, I googled "default hotel safe code" and got the number, while my semi-panicked e-mail to hotel staff was responded to with the literal manual for an AmazonBasics safe. Other than that though I can say I came out satisfied with the few hours that I stayed there, and I wouldn't mind checking in there again if I visited Japan for a longer period of time.

The hostel offers a variety of services and amenities designed for comfort, including air-conditioned rooms with shared bathrooms. The staff is known for their exceptional service and are always available to assist guests. Guests can enjoy clean dorms, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a cozy cafe/bar with discounted food options.
I had an amazing stay at Wise Owl Hostels River Tokyo! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with recommendations and fluent in English, which made everything so easy. The hostel is spotlessly clean, from the dorms to the shared bathrooms, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Its location is perfect—right by Tokyo Skytree and a short walk to Asakusa’s Senso-ji Temple, with subway stations nearby for quick access to other tourist spots. The vibe is relaxed, and the cafe/bar is a great place to unwind. Highly recommend for anyone exploring Tokyo!

I had a wonderful stay at Wise Owl Hostels River Tokyo! The hostel is in a great location, just a short distance from Skytree, offering an amazing night view of the tower. The environment is calm and peaceful, making it perfect for relaxation after a day of exploring Tokyo. The hostel is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with all the amenities you need. There are nearby stations, cafes, and many attractions, making it convenient to get around. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Tokyo! The only downside I experienced was a bit of disturbance from passing trains, as mentioned in the description. However, if you're a night owl, it won't be an issue at all! Another small thing is the lack of space to hang jackets and backpacks. For luggage, there's a convenient space under the stairs, but it might be a bit tight for those with larger bags. Other than that, everything was perfect!

I had a good stay here. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hostel is located very close to the train station. There are also convenience stores very close and restaurants. They let you keep the luggage in the hostel till your flight even when you check out at 10:00. There is some noise from passing trains.

this place is for homeless to live. Only towel provided, and no locker for your bulky luggage, damn it! you need to pay $100 for a pair of slippers!! why dont you just give us for free! prefer to live in net cafe , at least you have a private room. Really cannot understand the people who give high score to it. no difference from living in a prison

Fantastic staff, nice rooms such a shame the communal areas are so uncomfortable. The main reason I choose hostels is to meet other locals and travellers and the common areas here are so badly planned out I couldn't recommend this hostel to friends. Some chairs and sofas in place of the hard wooden 'boxes' In reception would make all the difference!

Hostel KURA 蔵 is a charming and budget-friendly accommodation nestled in the heart of Tokyo's Taito district. Guests can enjoy streamlined mixed-gender dorms that provide a cozy atmosphere, complete with complimentary Wi-Fi and a welcoming bar to unwind after a day of adventures.
I spent a month in Japan. While I was over there I had the chance to stay at over 20 different hotels and hostels. Just about every night I was in a new place. I have to say by far hostel Kura was my favorite. The owner is a wonderful man and everybody's staying at this hostel was very friendly. I ended up going out with a couple of fellow travelers and exploring the city. It is in an area of Tokyo that is easy to access and in a central location. The price is extremely competitive and next time that I come back to Japan I will be staying here.

I booked a 3-night stay but encountered a long immigration line, which delayed my arrival. Despite informing the hostel that I would not make it by the 10 pm check-in cut-off, they refused to make any exceptions, stating that I’d be marked as a no-show and would lose my entire booking. This policy feels overly rigid, especially since I communicated my situation in advance. Unfortunately, I lost all 3 nights of a paid booking. Book here at your own risk—this hostel’s inflexibility really isn’t worth it.

Operating hours start from 3pm onwards daily, can't store any luggage even before check in or after check out. Kinda the worst experience that I have to stroll my luggage to the hostel and found out the door will be opened at 3pm and I have to find some available luggage storage to keep my bag and it's quite hard in that busy area such a Asakusa Most are fully occupied. At least hostel should send the useful to guest upon receive the booking to let them know that hostel do not have space to store the luggage. Location: walking 10-15 mins from metro. Room is quite small and toilet only 1 room/shower room only 2 rooms for men.

Had a great stay here. It’s budget friendly and still cozy. It’s a bit cramped in the room, but there’s enough space in the bed itself. The mattress, pillow and duvet are also all clean and comfortable. Actually the place is very clean. The receptionist was very helpful and kind. It’s got a security lock using a passcode so rest assured it’s safe. Close to the subway too! Would highly recommend staying here!

Book it! Closely located to train, quiet at night, comfortable bed and cozy lounge area. It's amazing value for tokyo and I couldn't have been happier. The staff members are super cool. Personal preference: I think they can run the heater a little lower at night in the winter! A little chill throughout the night is comfortable.

This place is suitable for solo travellers. It's located near Inaricho Station, which is very good for commuting around Tokyo. It clean and comfortable. Even though it is capsule hostel, it's slightly too small for me (170cm) But overall, it worth your money. If your itinerary focus on traveling around Tokyo and not to hang out in the hostel, then this hostel is for you.

We booked a single room with a communal bathroom/space for two days and its definitely a great place! We planned this for our trip to Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea. Commute wasn’t bad as its near the train station and bus stations. It is also near a convenience store and some restaurants. I will say it is around a shady place/area as there are pubs but its overall convenient. The staff were really nice and helpful and we were able to check in & out smoothly. For a great room and price would definitely book here again!

I stayed here for 28 days and really liked it. The staff are super friendly and easy to talk to — they speak English and you can really feel that they enjoy working here, which makes the whole place feel comfortable and welcoming. There are different types of capsules. I recommend the ones with a small hallway — they come with a little side table and feel almost like your own private room. The price difference is small (around ¥500 more per night), but totally worth it. Everything is very clean — the showers, kitchen, and capsules are all cleaned daily. The lounge area is cozy with good Wi-Fi, comfy sofas, tables for studying or working, a billiard table, a small sand area, and even a fully equipped kitchen with fridges and drinking water (hot & cold). Some guests unfortunately didn’t follow the quiet rules inside the capsules (talking or making calls), but most of the time it was peaceful. The location isn’t super central, but the trainstation is only about a 5–10 minute walk, and from there you can easily get anywhere in Tokyo. There’s also a supermarket right in front of the hotel, plus convenience stores and nice, cheap restaurants nearby. Overall, a very comfortable and well-run capsule hotel — warm staff, clean facilities, and great value for the price.

I’ve stayed in different hostels/capsule hotels all over the world and this one is definitely the best, the lobby is beautiful, the staff is friendly and very accommodating. I only found the place by chance on the final stretch of my visit but if I’ve known of this place sooner I would have stayed a lot longer. Easy access to lots of places in Tokyo, close to the station and surrounded by a variety of well priced stores and restaurants. Will definitely be coming back again.

New hostel, the public area is large and comfortable. However, it's not user friendly to provide towel for every 3 days, no towel for head. Then you see many people put towel in the room or the laggage area. I know there's environmental hotel to do room clean every 3 days but still give new towel every day. In LDK, you have to pay to buy a towel is rediculous. Room air condition is too cool to sleep. Every space is not confined, can't stop too cool air to go into the unique space. Please turn the temp set up in the night time. Not able to get good sleep for too cool temperature. Give free daily towel won't impact cost much, you can increase in the room fee, however no daily towel make very uncomfortable experience, you shall consider user friendly. From Self check in only you consider manual cost not user friendly, but towel and comfortable temp for sleep did impact resistance quality a lot. Please consider. Too low temperature in every area including public area, I believe the electricity fee waste is more than the daily new towel. Please improve!

I stayed at LDK twice for a total of six nights and it has easily become my favorite hostel in Japan. Although it’s not in central Tokyo, it’s very accessible via the Tozai Line and just a few steps from the train station. What made me decide to stay here is how much this hostel has to offer. The common area is absolutely lovely — featuring white sand, various seating options, and a relaxing atmosphere. Check-in and check-out are self-service on the ground floor (check-in at 3:00 PM, check-out at 10:00 AM). Early check-in isn’t allowed, but you can store your luggage on the 1st or 4th floor and use the lounge while waiting. The reception is on the 4th floor, along with the main common area. Rooms: The rooms and beds are surprisingly spacious. Each pod has a small locker with a padlock provided for valuables. The futon is a bit thin but still comfortable. You’ll need to set up your own bedding upon arrival. It can get a little warm in the morning, but overall it’s cozy. Some upper bunk corners even have small workspaces, which is a nice touch. Toilets and Showers: I stayed on the 3rd floor, where there are plenty of clean and well-maintained facilities, complete with toiletries. Separate areas are provided for men and women. Breakfast: Breakfast was included during my second stay, but it wasn’t particularly special — you could easily skip it and try something nearby instead. Amenities & More: The 4th floor is the highlight — it has the white sand lounge, bar, reception, a fully equipped MasterChef-style kitchen, refresh (smoking) room, prayer room, board games, and additional toilets. The kitchen is especially impressive, with all the utensils, large fridges, and chillers you’d ever need to cook your own meals. Towels are replaced every two days, and free toothbrushes and earplugs are available. There’s also a packing area with a weighing scale on the 3rd floor where you can organize your luggage. They also host regular weekend activities, which are a great way to meet other travelers. During my stay, there was a football match viewing (though only in Japanese), and a fun Takoyaki Night where guests could make their own takoyaki, enjoy free sake, and even experience Kagami Biraki. I appreciated the small safety details — like how they store sharp kitchen objects after midnight. I also had some Amazon packages delivered, and the staff kindly kept them safe at reception. One receptionist (a Chinese guy, unfortunately I didn’t get his name) went above and beyond to help me with a return order — he was incredibly kind and helpful. I lost a bracelet and reached out to check if it was found — the staff promptly checked and got back to me. Overall, LDK is by far the best hostel I’ve stayed at in Japan. The space, cleanliness, and warmth of the place make it truly feel like home. I’ll definitely stay here again the next time I’m in Tokyo!

This place was really nice, the beds were big and spacious, I was blessed to share a private room with some friends and not have to do public dorms, however even the. I think as long as your super quiet it should be okay 👍 Breakfast was kind mehhh to me so I don’t recommend paying extra from it as there is a grocery store across the street a family mart around the corner and a mister donut a few blocks down. Location is alright the neighborhood is very nice, but if you want to be in downtown Tokyo I don’t recommend unless you’re willing to navigate the busses and subway. Although this place was nice and I do recommend them to anyone who needs a place to stay.

I want to gatekeep this so bad but they deserved to be known. Handsdown the best hostel I’ve stayed in Tokyo. Very new as well. Rooms Not cramped, very spacious for a hostel dorm. Enough space for everyone to move around and not get in each other’s way. For a small additional fee, they also have a dorm room type that practically looks like you have your own hotel room. Common Lounge OMG. This one takes the cake! It’s huge and cozy! And they have this “beach” space that literally looks and feels like your on a beach. They have great work spaces with outlets, great space to do remote work in! When I went they had sake barrel breaking and takoyaki Sundays that’s free for all. Love love love it. Amenities They give free towel, the first ones. Rental are cheaper than other hostels if you need new ones. Staff The staff are friendly and engaging. Location It’s very near Nishikasai subway station. There’s also nearby 7-11 and lawson and familymart. There’s aeon grocery right in front. Will definitely book here again when I come back, hopefully the prices doesnt increase dramatically because I foresee that it would, with the quality.

Great location and price. Very close to several train stations. The Host, Gigi, is absolutely fantastic and helpful. He has "Japan Travel" books in English and Spanish. I had a wonderful stay and felt at home with family.

Lovely stay managed by a lovely human being. Jiji is an absolute legend who makes you feel at home. During the morning he prepares breakfast for everyone, and in the afternoon the chances are high that he'll invite you to chat with other people in the dining room. Best hostel I've stayed in Japan by far ❤️

Jiji is a friendly Japanese host that welcomes guests to his cozy traditional home in central Tokyo. Every morning, he serves up a delicious breakfast for everyone to enjoy together. Staying at Jiji's place is a great choice. In the evenings, he often invites guests to chat in the kitchen over Japanese beer. It was a wonderful experience, and I'll definitely be back!

Good:location, easy access in and out, friendly landlord, bed is clean, cheap for its location Bad: bathroom has stains and maybe mold? Tight space, bathroom shared with 5 other people and 2 sinks

An amazing hostel experience! It's very humble accomodations, but if you're willing to work with that you'll be rewarded with the chance to meet up with folks all around the world in a very chill vibe. And of course the host Jiji is the most kind, friendly, caring host I've had the pleasure of coming across in all of my travels. For folks that want amenities look elsewhere, everyone else though please give this place a shot! I'll gladly come back when I'm in Tokyo again!

Had a lovely stay here! Jij the host is so incredibly kind, he offers tea and coffee, gives you a tour and helped us find nearby food and drinks. The beds were a little stiff but very warm. Clean shower and toilets. Amazing location in the centre of Tokyo, a short walk to Tokyo station. You must store large luggage in the reception area as the bedrooms are small.

Stayed here during my first time in Tokyo and the host, JiJi, makes the whole experience worth while! He is incredibly friendly and sincere and has great stories about his own travels abroad. The place is very cute, small, and cozy. Great for a brief stay and he also serves yummy breakfast!

GrapeHouse Koenji is a cozy hostel in the lively neighborhood of Koenji, designed exclusively for female travelers. The hostel offers utilitarian dorms and private rooms, creating a secure and comfortable environment for its guests. With a modern Japanese-style living room and an open-plan kitchen space, it's perfect for socializing and unwinding after a day of exploration. The all-female ambiance fosters camaraderie among guests, making it an empowering haven for women on the road.
I highly recommend staying at Grape House Koenji. Sanae is attentive, kind and the place is spotless. I stayed there for seven nights and they voluntarily offered to change my sheets. The location is also ideal for those who want to stay away from busy areas like Shibuya, Shinjuku and Ginza. That being said, it only takes about 20mins by train to get to Shinjuku. Moreover, Koenji is a sanctuary for creatives, vintage and music lovers. It was the birthplace of the Japanese punk rock scene in the 70s. People are friendly, open minded and full of stories here. I would definitely come back again!

The location is great. We love koenji. easy access to Tokyo, easy to wonder around. it was very basic, clean (as long as you dont look under the bads in the dormitory), relaxing. i think sweet and homy will be a good way to describe it.

Thank you so much for your hospitality! This hostel was the only accommodation I could find in Tokyo that would let me stay with my cat! And for no extra cost! My cat stayed in the office area while I stayed in the dorm but I could visit her as much as I wanted. My cat had plenty of space to move around so she was happy. The hostel was really nice and clean with all the required amenities and a nice living space. It was in a nice quiet area too. Thank you so much!

This place is heaven if you are a solo female traveller to Tokyo. The service and facility are at their best. The owner of the house is very cheerful and considerate. She even arranged a small party a day before my check-out. It was a mesmerising experience. I would highly recommend this place.

I can't say enough good things about Grapehouse! It's such a cute little hostel located within walking distance of Koenji station. The owner, Sanae, was an amazing host. She and some of the other guests spoke English, so I would highly recommend this place not only to Japanese guests but to others who don't speak Japanese as well. The dormitory, bathrooms, and common area were all clean and well-organized. It was an amazing value for the price I paid to stay for 10 nights! Thank you Grapehouse and Sanae for making me feel at home when I was in Tokyo!

Situated near Nippori Station, the surrounding area offers a traditional atmosphere with temples and charming streets to explore. Additionally, the friendly team at Sakura House has been assisting guests in finding short and long-term accommodations in Tokyo and Japan for many years.
Great hotel for those on a budget. Very near the train station (Sendogi st.) .The rooms are clean . There is cleaning service every 4 days(they change your sheets, took out the trash can clean the floors. They also replaced your towels) The towels, beddings(pillow and blanket), shampoo and bath cream are provided. The shower room is shared but great privacy. There is also the ladies only shower room for extra privacy. The toilet are separed tho. Staffs are very nice and helpful. They have free local tours from the hotel staffs and they have community activities such as cooking nights (had one in 31th august) I would recommend this hotel very much. It is quiet , clean and the rooms are spacious, considering the price. Would definitely visit again
Knunnie K — Google review
Very basic accommodation with essentially the bare minimum - a bed, A/C, and a shared bathroom. It is what it is, and that’s why it’s pretty cheap. The decor is very spartan and reminded me of a public school or prison. Unlike every other place I stayed in Japan they did not provide things like tea, slippers, pajamas, or even hair conditioner. I felt a bit more effort could have been exerted in cleaning, particularly for the carpets and bathrooms. The room was quiet and dark, and the bunk bed was comfortable enough. Luggage storage felt like it was lacking security. The staff was helpful and the process was smooth.

Oh boy, what a good neighbourhood and clean place to stay. Its nearby for all the things that you need for your trip. Like Konbini, Laundry, restaurant, izakaya. Nippori station is only a few mins walk, and that would be one of the best walk that you will have in your life. I walked around the area when I was here and it was nice and refreshing. I recommend trying their Breakfast Sakana. I still miss it. Its been almost a years since my last visit from Japan.

• Check-in: was quick and readily assisted by English-speaking staff. Reception is open 24 hrs attended by the same people attending the kitchen. Most guests in the hotel are foreigners so that’s expected. • Hotel & room: I would say the general look & feel was plain and sterile. Not to say that’s bad, only lacking warmth in ambience. Low door beam, around 5 ft 6 I guess. Our room with AC (working well), bunk beds (comfortable) and sofa had little but enough space to move and open medium luggage. It could feel suffocating at first but the sliding glass door that could be opened to the balcony somewhat made up for it. I wish there was a proper table in there. What was provided was a foldable low table for sitting lotus. • Gender-free washroom/shower room (see images): Provided with towels in room. The bathrooms are shared. On our floor, it has 6 sinks and 4 or 5 shower rooms. • Separate toilets for men & women: has sinks in there too, on 3F has a few cubicles and urinals (men). • Cleanliness: Despite the hotel being basic and with considerable guest traffic, this is where housekeeping stands out. I had seen them making a great job of maintaining the facilities daily from floor vacuuming, scrubbing surfaces clean, drying surfaces, replacing bathroom tissue, etc. • Breakfast: Our 4-night booking came with breakfast of slices of bread, jams, soup & coffee/tea. Better than none. We either went to get additional food at nearby Lawson or bought extra the night before and brought to breakfast. • Location to train stations: Closest is Sendagi Station (270m away). Nippori Station is 600m away. • Bonus: I liked that Tokyo Metro Subway Passes (for foreign tourists only) could be bought from the lobby. • For improvement: Maybe putting trash bins for segration on every floor would be good. Single bin inside the room, even in wash room/toilets, tend to leave this task of segregating to housekeepers. Only in the kitchen that these bins are found. Also, providing drinking water stations on every floor, maybe by the elevator would be better than going to the kitchen all the time to refill a bottle.

It was an okay hotel, the only downside I would say that some of the other hotel guests were very loud and inconsiderate for other people. The hotel in general was alright, the rooms were nice. The shared shower spaces were quite dirty though which I disliked. There are separate female ones, but whether it was female only or shared general shower spaces I found both quite dirty. The hotel guests didn't clean after them when they used the sink space. When entering Tokyo again, I would not be going to this one again due to factors mentioned.
Katie P — Google review
Booked here for 6 nights back in June 2025. A very foreigner friendly hotel that is right next to Yanaka Street. The room was basic and clean with the showers being small stalls within a shared bathroom. You can use any floors bathroom if it gets busy. My only gripe was that there was only body wash and shampoo, no conditioner. There's a neat inbuilt cafe to enjoy if you want to be near other people. However, the breakfast was simple self serve (bread, soup, coffee/tea) and technically you shouldn't eat outside food there (probably fine if you buy something or it's not busy). Lastly, keep in mind that it's about a 10-15 minute walk to Nippori station. It's not too bad, but can be brutal if you're tired and need to haul heavy luggage.

Sakura hotel is a very comfortable and budget hotel. Their free breakfast has a toast and butter, some jam and other items. The fish containing breakfast is charged with 1000 YEN. But it's good enough. Staff are very friendly and everything is maintained clean and neat. They also have complimentary tea and provide soap and shampoo, no other toiletries. Overall, it's a comfortable stay and I loved staying here.

We enjoyed our stay in Sakura Hotel Nippori, though the rooms are not that spacious but it is clean and the beds are also comfortably nice. It has a restaurant/cafe with international food selection so that when you feel hungry you can dine in immediately. The staff are also helpful and accommodating. It has a nearby laundromat, trinket stores and other local cafes and eatery. It is also near with a bus stop and the metro station.

This place was great! We were two women traveling around Japan. I mean, we always felt safe in Japan, but we definitely felt safe here. Great showers, laundry facilities, a kitchen, computer area, free tooth brush or razor if you need one, community events, help with getting around the city, lockers for your belongings. It was amazing. Highly recommend this hostel.

I didn't like the rooms. It have the structure of an old motel. The bed is small and not so comfortable. The rules said that they won't help you if you have a medical problem. (That's just a human thing to do!). They let you keep your luggage after checkout but they don't even give you a label to store it. Pros: They lent us an umbrella on a rainy day. The staff was kind.
Juan G — Google review
We had the standard traditional Japanese room for 3 people. The room itself was nice, and traditional in the sense one would expect. However the washroom smelled permanently terrible, possibly a sewage backup? We kept the door closed and used the community bathroom. Also we spoke to another guest who said their washroom was fine, so this could be a one-off issue. The bar that opens downstairs during the night is a nice touch as well, and provides a smooth means of getting to know other travellers.
Travis N — Google review
I am reviewing the hostel style 10 person share rooms and the communal areas. There are single rooms, others may have reviewed them, but I am not doing so. As with any hostel, you get a number of types from all over, this place had some of most interesting and fascinating as well as irritating and noisy. But that is to be expected. Otherwise pretty comfy bunk beds and a frequently cleaned communal shower/toilet. Room floor gets wiped, but the BO may be strong. Ask for a room near the window and open that window when you can. Communal areas include balconies, manga reading space, bar etc. All nice good places to chill and if you want to meet people, you generally can. For the right of budget, this is a pretty decent option.

The staff was really kind and helpful. I really appreciate their work. The location is fantastic. You can go by feet to many places. They can speak good English. Very good place for people with a little money because of the kitchen, it's open 24/24 . And you can use the frige and a rice cooker and a microwave and everything is available to cook. The price of the rooms is so good. It is colse to daiso, uniclo, halal food and don don supermarket so you can do shopping 24/24. Close to a train station. Just 4 stars bacause of the quality of the bed was not good. I stayed in two defrent rooms. The traditional one was the worst. The carpet was very old. And it was staking to my feet. And the pictures look so new but the reality is different. The towels for rent. And if you want a toothbrush you should ask for it every day. And there is no room service even if you stayed 20 days in a private room. The can just collect the trash if you asked for it.
Titifa B — Google review
The room is comfortable, but a little oddly shaped. This is likely due to the hostel being a former love hotel. The common areas are clean and it was pretty easy to do laundry. The futons provided are also comfortable, even after several days.
Kevin P — Google review
We had stayed here in December and there were two doors to get into the room, and you had your sink on your right, your bed on your left, your toilet which was in a separate room from the shower area towards the back of the room and walled off. Not a bad place to stay and actually more spacious than the other places we stayed at in Tokyo. The shower room was pretty cold because the window was not completely shut off so you could see a little outside. The staff members were pretty friendly!
Jon C — Google review
Stayed in a 5 bed tatami mat private room that came with ensuite shower and toilet. The room itself was very spacious and air-conditioned, the decor a bit dated but retaining the kitsch "love hotel" style from which the hostel originated, with highlights including a chandelier, non functioning vacuum tube delivery system and open plan tearoom/ bathtub (seriously) that has since been carpeted to make extra living space. WiFi quality isn't the best in the bedroom itself but excellent elsewhere in the hostel, and there is 24 hour access to laundry rooms, a large kitchen and common area and cheap vending machines. Washing detergent, razors and toothbrushes are provided for free also. All in all a great place

This was my first hostel in Japan, and I absolutely loved this place! Clean, safe, and updated facilities. Friendly staff, and they speak English as well! (Really helpful, especially after coming from a long flight, and trying to figure out the transit system.) Great location; Nearby lots of things to see and eat just around the corner. Fantastic 2 week stay for the latter end of my 3 month trip. The hosts were lovely and super helpful. There's a little kitchenette at the top with a microwave and kettle, there's also an awesome single soaking bath. The reception downstairs is nice and has an occasional acupuncturist who id 100% recommend. Capsules are standard, pretty spacious in comparison to normal capsules. Do take earplugs as you will hear other people snore. You also need to wear hotel slippers around the premises and you have a locker for your shoes. Literally a stones throw away from Sensoji, about 3min walk. Right in the heart of Asakusa. I was a lone female staying here and would stay again.

Struggling to decide whether to rate this a 3 or 4, mainly because I know I am biased against hostels! I thought I would give it a try though I expected not to enjoy it that much. The price is good and the bed comfortable. It’s great to have laundry facilities in the hostel. The staff are really friendly and the shared space is comfortable- though I wish they wouldn’t leave the door open throughout the day; it’s cold! My main complaints are that I have spent the last few days sleeping next to a woman who snores like a wild beast and I cannot escape it, and that everyone then gets up at about 7-8am so I have been getting about 5 hours sleep each night. I realise this is not the hostel’s fault really! It’s just not for me.

Great central location near all the hustle and bustle, if that's what u like, for a very good price. Lovely staff, immaculately kept. It's a very quiet hostel, more hotel like except for the sleeping in capsules bit. Towels & bag as well as slippers provided. There's also a shop next door with a very friendly man selling yummy roasted sweet potatoes!

I loved it here! I stayed for two nights and it's very relaxing. The bed is super comfortable and the lounge on the first floor was a good spot to hangout in for a bit. The walls in your "capsule" are not soundproof so if you're a light sleeper, it's best to just book a private room somewhere. I'm a heavy sleeper so my rest was fine! Don't forget to check out the rooftop, you get a lovely view of Tokyo Skytree from there.

Located just a short distance from Tokyo Skytree and Edo Tokyo Museum, plat hostel keikyu asakusa station offers simple dorms and private rooms with free Wi-Fi, lounges, and a shared kitchen. The property is conveniently situated near two Tokyo Metro stations and within walking distance of attractions like Don Quixote and Asakusa. Guests have praised the friendly staff who speak both English and Japanese, the clean facilities, comfortable accommodations, and the willingness to assist guests.
One of the cleanest hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Rooms were nicely conditioned, offered plenty of space for luggage, workers greeted every time you passed, rooms were cleaned daily and all surfaces sanitized with alcohol. Laundry was affordable. Kitchen was well stocked, offered tea and coffee. Access to metro just a 5 minute walk.
Rman 2 — Google review
As far as hostels go, Plat hostel is great for the price - we paid $100 (AUD) each (pp) for 2 nights for a total of 4 double bed rooms booked. We had communal/shared bathrooms and showers but it wasn’t a problem, the toilets are right next to the room so it’s almost like having a en suite to be honest. The rooms itself are rather small and it was a bit of a struggle to fit all our belongings inside but we managed. Also the rooms get super hot and stuffy due to their small size but it was fine, we also didn’t spend much time in the hostel anyway, only to sleep. One other minor complaint is the lift- there’s only one lift and it takes a long time to operate. Stairs weren’t really an option because they were located inside our bedroom and took us to outdoor industrial stairs which seemed to be for emergency use only. all in all, this is actually a great hostel especially for the price. The location is great, the staff let us check in 2 hours early, the rooms are clean and the communal spaces are perfect. One additional thing to note is if you go out at night, past 11pm, you’ll need the code to the hostel main door, they didn’t provide us with this but thankfully there was a guest on the balcony that I could call out to for help.
Georgie M — Google review
Pros: amazing hostel! well located, quiet, close to lots of touristic sites, the staff is super nice, the facilities are great. The beds and space for each person is great Cons: thankfully the hostel wasn't full, because the only way to go up and down is with one elevator, and all the showers are on one floor. I also highly advise to give people the passcode to the door to get in once the reception is closed! it would be way more handy I would totally go back there!
Lucie G — Google review
The hostel staff are lovely, very nice to talk to & can answer all your questions. The showers are good, hot and good pressure Some facilities are lacking. The capsules rooms do not have space to accommodate luggage for every person. If the room is full (as it was during my stay) it looks as if a bomb has gone off. People have stuff everywhere making it very dirty & hard to walk to the end beds. The beds have a low ceiling right above the head area and then opens up where your body is. Not ideal as I have hit my head multiple times. The kitchen is small and dirty. I understand that it isn’t the hostel fault more so the people staying don’t clean up after themselves but something to consider. The wifi has got to be the worst wifi I’ve ever connected to. Wifi on each floor but still unable to google something. Had to use data for a lot of my planning which was unfortunate. I’d stay again if there wasn’t anything else

4 nov 2025 1120pm Im writing reviews for the 2nd time as my 1st reviews from this afternoon is removed Akira is very rude rude rude! I boiled hot water & poured into a bowl to bring it down to room temperature. I kept it to one side. I made sure the kitchen top clean & tidied Came back exactly 1hr after & Akira threw the water away. When I asked him the 1st few times he denied! But when I told him you are the one around & tidied the kitchen, he admitted. When I questioned why ,his replied was rude " our hotel our rules " & he smiled mockingly I have never come across these kind of treatment by hotel or hostel staffs! After that I left the plc to my room. About 30mins later I was passing the reception to go out, he called out my name in front of other guests waiting & said sinicaly "CALM DOWN MAAM" I'm appalled!!! Is this how you treat your customers??? Plat hostel staffs really need to attend a thorough customer service training, especially Akira. Ps. You delete my review, I will repost again

To the staff member named Akira – this is for you: 1    We felt unwelcome upon arrival, even though we arrived just 30 minutes past the check-in time. We were aware of the policy and had already messaged the hostel to inform them we might be late. 2    When we tried to explain our situation, Akira kept interrupting us and didn’t seem interested in listening. We were willing to pay the ¥1000 late check-in fee, but his attitude was not customer-friendly at all. 3    We asked for slippers, which he gave for free. However, when I asked for a towel (and was willing to pay for it), he loudly said, “Don’t ask too much.” I was shocked and felt disrespected. 4    During checkout the next morning, Akira was again at the front desk. He reminded us—again—that we should check in earlier next time. Although we had already acknowledged our mistake, paid the fee, and moved on, he seemed fixated on the issue. As we were leaving, he sarcastically said, “We hope to see you again,” then repeated the check-in comment at the door just to make sure we heard it. It felt unnecessarily passive-aggressive. We are familiar with the term “tatemae,” and this felt like a clear example of it—polite words masking negative intent. This was the first time we’ve had such an experience in Japan. To be fair, the hostel itself is nice, and the morning staff (not Akira) was friendly and helpful when we dropped off our luggage before check-in. Unfortunately, the encounter with Akira left a very negative impression. We will not be returning to this hostel.

We had a great experience staying at this hostel! One of its standout features is the amazing staff. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay, which made a big difference. They were always ready to provide tips on what to do in the area, and their warm attitude really added to the overall atmosphere of the place. The location is also fantastic, making it easy to explore the surrounding attractions, restaurants, and transportation options. That said, there are a couple of aspects that could be improved. The common area is quite small, which limits the opportunities for socializing with other guests or relaxing outside of your room. It felt a bit cramped, and a larger communal space would have made the experience even better. Additionally, the rooms themselves are quite compact, with very little space to move around or organize your belongings. It’s not ideal if you’re trying to unpack or need some room to handle your daily tasks comfortably. Overall, despite the limited space in the rooms and common area, the friendly staff and convenient location make this hostel a great choice. It’s a wonderful spot for travelers looking for a welcoming and centrally located place to stay.

50% Chance of Head Injury Please save yourself a headache (literally!) and stay somewhere else—especially if you are tall. See the low reviews for confirmation. The mattresses are extra short, paper thin, there is no room for luggage (and no storage after checkout), and then… there is barely headspace (30cm) in half the capsules (see photo). You can see the marks where people have hit their heads underneath. To prevent you from cutting your head and shedding blood on the sheets, they kindly installed a rubber strip on the corner. Even worse, the ladders to the bunk are so thin and against the wall, parkour exp is recommended. Once you’re in, you are blinded by the light on the wall. Don’t like hitting your head? Tough luck. So many people complain that they make you sign the Terms and Conditions before seeing your bed, in which you agree that you cannot get a refund or “unreasonably” request another bed. I made a polite request to change bunks during a 4 night stay and the staff “hmmed” for 30 seconds, pretending to scroll through the reservations before saying it was impossible to switch beds. He blamed me for not requesting a lower bunk and relayed the platitude: it’s a cheap hostel, what do you expect. Maybe not paying the same price as the lower bunk for an extra safety hazard not advertised in the photos?

Amenities Dream Shinjuku is a must-visit for Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts in Tokyo. It offers a wide selection of cards, including standard and modern MTG cards dating back to Alpha up to the current set. The store is known for being the cheapest place in Tokyo (or even Japan) to buy singles and supplies, making it a favorite among card tourists. Additionally, they have a point card system that allows you to earn discounts on future purchases.
Very good selection of cards and were very helpful in locating alternate art cards
Paul M — Google review
Good shop with decent selection of MTG cards. I found a few nicely priced reserved list cards that I picked up and was pretty happy about. I'd say about 20% of the shop is dedicated to MTG with the rest made up of various other card games. A small but notable thing is that they are cash only, no card, so make sure you bring some yen.
Alex D — Google review
One of the few places that has the cards organized so it's easier to search. Best place in Shinjuku if you are looking for specific cards without searching through docens of boxes. They have even more cards in the backso you can ask the staff and they wil check for you.
Gonzalo L — Google review
Good shop with many valuable cards. The staff is also helpful and kindly help my kids writing on the paper that they knew we couldn't write in Japanese.
Anton K — Google review
My friend brought me here to buy some cards. The staff were really friendly and helped us with whatever we needed. It was easy to walk around and browse.
Caleb — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place for magic cards. Very helpful staff when getting cards from the cabinets and plenty of cards to look through for yourself. Spent $85 easily on cards that I wanted. Be prepared to bring cash as no credit card.

Cheapest Pokémon boxes in all of Shinjuku. Not only Shinjuku but actually in all of Tokio. Highly recommend

Don’t buy from here these are scamming with their loose packs. Bought 12 single packs of inferno x and DR and not even a single holo, impossible odds. Avoid

Self-catering accommodation
Tokyo Hikari Guesthouse is a charming and cozy lodging located in the heart of Tokyo. It offers simple dorms and private rooms, making it an ideal choice for budget travelers. The guesthouse features a communal kitchen, library, and free Wi-Fi, creating a relaxed atmosphere where guests can easily connect with others from around the world. The convenient location near Kuramae Subway Station allows for easy exploration of the city.
This is one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed!! Super close to trains etc, but on a quiet, residential street. The hostel is beautifully and tastefully appointed, with tons of great little amenities. I stayed in the dorm, and I felt like I was camping (but my neighbors were quieter here!! ;-). Isa and Yumi were consummate hosts, not only with advice and conversation, but in cleaning everyday and making sure that we had everything we needed. They have a little green space outback, and the whole stay was like a calm oasis in the middle of a giant city. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I have stayed at many hostels but this one felt like home, because it truly was one. We share the space with our hosts, Isa-san and his family. The charming interiors were tastefully done in wood and everything felt very rustic yet modern. There's every possible amenity one would require, and more, plus free laundry which I never saw before. Isa-san took great care of me from storing my luggage prior to my arrival, promptly changing my sheets, and providing recommendations - all round the clock. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with Isa-san, a great way to feel a little less homesick after spending almost a month in Japan and not having much social interaction. The location is superb. It is merely a 30-second walk from the Kuramae station on the Asakusa line which made it very convenient to access, especially on the last day when I had to get to Haneda with two large suitcases. Highly recommend this guesthouse.

I had such a wonderful stay at Tokyo Hikari Guesthouse! 💕 Isa-san and Yumiko-san are the sweetest hosts — so kind and caring, they truly made me feel at home. The guesthouse is in a quiet area but still close to many great spots, super convenient! Everything was clean, cozy, and filled with good vibes. The other guests were also very friendly and respectful. I’d definitely love to come back next time I visit Tokyo! ☺️🌸

Probably one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at. It felt like home. Very comfortable beds and super clean. I stayed there for 6 nights and would have loved to stay longer. The owners are really friendly and pay a lot of attention to detail. The kitchen/living area was cute and social. Free use of washing machine and tea/coffee was great! Such a cosy little place close to shops, restaurants and train stations.Would definitely stay again if I come back to Japan :)
Anu C — Google review
The owners here are amazing. They are super friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. It feels like you are coming home rather than coming back to a guesthouse. The bed was the comfiest that I’ve ever slept in! Very clean as well. I appreciated the personal tour with stories about the owners’ children. The owners also live here, so they are always available if you need them. Great location with a direct line to Narita or Haneda airport.
K H — Google review
I stayed three nights in this hostel and it was absolutely fantastic. Everything is so cute, clean and organised. Every little detail is thought of and perfectly balanced. The location couldn't be better either. Great area with cafes and restaurants and only a couple of mins to the subway for exploring this wonderful city. The hosts are incredibly friendly, answer every question and give great advice. It really feels like you are being a guest in their home. I wish I had talked more with them. It is rather quiet so not the typical backpacker hostel where people hang out and chat a lot in the common room (it can happen though), most guests are away exploring during the day and come back tired in the evening (so did I).
Michael M — Google review
Very clean and homey rooms/guesthouse. The owner Isa and his family are very respectful, friendly and accomodating. The location of the guest house is very close to the Airport subway line (only 5 min walk) and very easy to various Kuramae restaurants and cafes. The bunk beds and blankets were also super comfy!
Richard Z — Google review
A very friendly guesthouse. I stayed here with three other friends in one room. It was a bit cramped, but we had enough space for just sleeping and rummaging through our koffers. Isa is very kind and was happy to help us with the surrounding activities and with the japanese language and customs. I would happily stay here again, and can't recommend it enough.
