Brunch restaurant
Le Diplomate is a classic French restaurant that offers outdoor seating and a cozy atmosphere. It pays tribute to the iconic French cafe culture, providing a comfortable setting for enjoying familiar French dishes, brunch favorites, and drinks. The restaurant's warm and inviting ambiance features comfy booths, extended windows, and a tiled floor that gives it a casual patio-like feel. The menu boasts an array of French classics like bouillabaisse and onion soup alongside international favorites such as burgers and half roast chickens.
My lunch at Le Diplomate in D.C. was truly exquisite. The atmosphere is authentically French and wonderfully charming. It is full of energy, conversation, and a fun vibe. Since it was a gorgeous day in the 70s, I was especially grateful to sit outside on the covered patio and enjoy the afternoon. The French onion soup was a highlight — one of the best I’ve had, it rivals Balthazar in New York City. The champagne was excellent, and the crème brûlée was the perfect finish to the meal. The service was also very good. I highly recommend this wonderful and vibrant French restaurant in the heart of D.C.

First, it should be noted the atmosphere of the restaurant is beautiful and would be the perfect setting for an evening outing. The service was great, and our server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. But as far as food goes, it was underwhelming. Beautifully presented but in taste and flavor it severely lacked and for the price point of each dish, was disappointing. I would recommend coming here perhaps for drinks and atmosphere, less so for the food.

Le Diplomate is an incredible spot for date night. It’s right on 14th Street and perfectly captures that classic European brasserie atmosphere. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it for a special evening. I highly recommend the steak frites, escargot, and duck. The duck, in particular, has a subtle orangey note that’s unlike anything I’ve ever tasted — rich, balanced, and memorable. We’ve also tried the artichokes before, which weren’t really my favorite, but everything else has been consistently excellent. The indoor dining room is elegant, but we’ve only ever sat outdoors, where the ambiance is just as lovely. We love this place and will definitely be back!

They nailed the French bistro/cafe vibe!! It is so cool to sit inside or on the patio and enjoy their food. One of the best burgers in the city! And the mushroom tart was flaky and rich and flavor packed!! Highly recommend!
Daniel L — Google review
My experience at this restaurant was excellent with the food and the service. The decor of the place was very pretty. The food was delicious. The coffee was super delicious, with an intense and tasty flavor. I loved it. The waiter who served us, I have to say this. We had a small incident with the coffee, but he resolved it super quickly. He was very attentive from the beginning, very kind and respectful. We were super happy with the attention from Mr. Amaya. I have to mention him because he gave us excellent service. I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything was excellent: the food, the service, the atmosphere, everything was a very nice experience! Highly recommended!!
M — Google review
Love the aesthetic and vibe of this place moreso than the food or drinks. The burger was good (not cooked as ordered = medium) and the scallops were good. Nothing phenomenal. Old fashioned was good. Just all around a very ok/good experience.
Colton S — Google review
We came on a day that there were protestors outside. You're charging $16 for two eggs over easy and you're trying to convince us you can't afford unioned workers? Yikes. As for the food, I had the Country Dry Chicken Club. The price felt audacious for its quality. The eggs benedict were fine since that's a tough dish to mess up, though through hard work and determination, they managed to do so as one of the eggs was medium boiled (at best). The highlight of the meal was the onion soup, which was perfect in every way. We went to a lot of great eateries while visiting DC, but this wasn't one of them. To be clear, the food isn't terrible, and what a business owner does re: unions isn't my business in the end; that said, this place feels like they are coasting on their reputation, charging higher prices for the prestige while failing to deliver on the quality that these prices should offer.

Midnight in Paris, but Make It D.C. There’s something about Le Diplomate that makes you believe in romance again — even if it’s just between you and your glass of Bordeaux. The lights shimmer like a Parisian dream, the chatter hums like a love song, and every bite feels like it’s flirting with you. The duck ragu? Intoxicating. The steak frites? A perfect affair of flavor and nostalgia. And the chocolate torte? Dangerous — the kind of sweet you shouldn’t trust but can’t resist anyway. Come here on a Friday night when the city feels alive. Order the wine, toss your hair, and let the night do what it does best — remind you that love isn’t gone, it’s just evolving. 💋 Pro tip: Don’t wait for someone to take you here. Go for yourself — Paris is more fun when you’re the main character.

Unconventional Diner is an industrial-chic bistro and bar located inside the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, offering upscale comfort fare, coffee, beer, wine, and cocktails. Chef David Deshaies puts a creative spin on classic diner entrees like chicken and waffles with habanero butter or Caribbean-style shrimp and grits with Pineapple-Habanero Sauce.
Fantastic experience at the Unconventional Diner! The menu lives up to the name with tons of different cuisines represented in the dishes (very unconventional… I’ve never eaten at a restaurant with this much variety). Everything we had was delicious. I loved the Lebanese fried rice and the meatloaf is the best meatloaf I’ve ever tried. The chicken pot pie poppers were also quite tasty. Our server was very nice and brought out a fun birthday surprise for me (thankfully no singing!). I would absolutely eat here again… highly recommend!

What a great brunch's spot. Love the vibes, gives old fashioned diner with modern twist. Their plates even look like paper plates, but they're ceramic. The service was fabulous. It took a little while to get hot coffee but that is my only negative. We ordered the blueberry lavender pancakes, sexy sandwich, and the loaded biscuits. The pancakes were delicious. My favorite savory option was the sexy sandwich, the sexy sauce is delicious. Will absolutely be back again!
Alex P — Google review
Absolutely Delicious. What should you order: Anything! This place has delicious food across the whole menu. We ended up coming two day in a row as it was that tasty. The loaded breakfast biscuits were crazy flavorful. My wife loved the pancakes, which were top notch. The star of the show was the chocolate cake, which may be the best Chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten. Overall come here hungry and leave super happy!
Coach T — Google review
Unconventional Diner really lived up to the hype. The food was amazing and the staff was super friendly and welcoming throughout the whole visit. I tried the chicken and waffles for the first time and I wouldn’t regret that choice one bit. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and tender, and the sauce tied everything together so well. What really elevated the dish was the butter, it had scallions in it and that extra touch made a big difference. Their fresh orange juice was the perfect drink to go with morning routine. Definitely one of those places you remember and want to come back to. Great food, great vibes, and great people.

This place has been saved as a place to go in Google Maps for years. I decided to go for my birthday brunch so I made a reservation which was a great idea because it was packed on Sunday. We were promptly seated at a table. It took a little while but a waiter came over to get our drinks while we waited on our last guest. The fruit punch was out of the world delicious! I ordered two before the food came. Which brings me to the next point. Due to it being busy a manager took our order and unfortunately for us there was some miscommunication and the order never went to the kitchen or was delivered to the wrong table? Either way we watched as food went to people that arrived after us. Our waiter came over to ask if we wanted dessert and that was when he realized we never received an order. The manager came back over to clear it up, told us our food would be out soon and took the drinks and side dishes off the bill which was a nice touch. Once we got the food it was delicious! I got pancakes (the best I’ve had in a VERY long time). My husband got the loaded breakfast biscuits which were AMAZING and my friend got the shrimp and grits which she liked. Their grits are amazing also. Over all I would go back !
MG “ — Google review
It was a pleasant experience, the atmosphere was nice and welcoming. The host and waiters were super friendly, super nice. The restaurant was tidy and clean, unfortunately there was a dirty glass which they changed with a plastic cup, I'll give them 8/10 on that. Talking about the food: I ordered, ● Chiken & waffles: was below average, came really dry and flavorless, very sad. ● Greek Full dead salad with Salmon: was ok, the Salmon was a little over. ● French dip poutine: was good but really heavy. ● Cajun Srimp & Grits: was dilecious. ● Double cheese Burger & Frise: was ok, could be better. The fries are really good. ● Buttermilk pancakes: was to the dry side, but it was ok. The Srawbarry and Brownie cakes area really dilecious. Food quality was ok, survise was really good though. Thank you Carlos. Would I come back? Yes, I would.
Monear Q — Google review
Stop by for brunch after our 5K run. We ordered the Double cheese burger, salmon with bagels, Thai salad with falafel, and Loaded breakfast biscuits. Everything tasted good, but didn’t have the wow factor. The service was avg at best. Our waitress added an extra something which we didn’t ordered, she took it back. Also a 20% automatic service fee was added, which I feel that shouldn’t be the case. Well that’s just my opinion. Check out the pictures for your own opinion.
Ty L — Google review
I found this gem when searching for the best brunch restaurants in DC before my visit. Everything on the menu sounds great, so it was hard to decide. We got the Lebanese Fried Rice with Falafel and the S"Eggs"y Sandwich - both were amazing! I almost didn’t get the fried rice because I was leaning toward breakfast food, but I’m glad I got it! The spices and the yogurt sauce with the veggies in the fried rice were delicious, bursting with flavor! The falafel was perfect - crisp on the outside with a soft and flavorful inside - SO good!! The ambiance is beautiful inside and outside. I highly recommend going for any meal - breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

New American restaurant
Restaurant
Nina May is a cozy and stylish restaurant located in Logan Circle, offering a menu of inventive cocktails and locally sourced New American cuisine. The brunch menu features homemade pastries, egg sandwiches, Yukon Gold Hash Browns with Smoked Salmon, and more. Additionally, the restaurant provides a set menu of shareable dishes like Cacio e Pepe Agnolotti and Brown Butter Sage French Toast.
Went for Sunday brunch and were delighted that we chose this place to go to. They had decent vegetarian options, by the time we went, they ran out of the veggie croquettes (perhaps next time). We stuck to the shared plates Ala Carter menu, we loved the mushroom dish from the menu. It was super delicious with lots of umami. The pasta dish was good too but the mushroom one was definitely blew us away. Overall, great place for casual brunch and some tasty cocktails.
Sridevi B — Google review
I recently hosted a private birthday party for about 18 people at Nina May, and it was absolutely incredible—easily one of my best visits yet (and this was my third time here!). Ben was our server for the evening and truly went above and beyond. He was attentive, timely, and made sure our wine glasses were never empty. He checked in often to ensure everything ran smoothly, which made the whole experience feel seamless. The managers, Peter and Arie, were also fantastic. They both made it a point to check in throughout the night, making sure everything was perfect. That kind of attentiveness really makes a difference. The food? Outstanding. Every course from the Chef’s Choice menu was delicious, and the kitchen did a great job accommodating dietary restrictions without compromising on quality or creativity. I’ll absolutely be back to Nina May. And if you’re thinking of hosting a private event—don’t think twice. This is the place to do it!
Trace H — Google review
So glad I finally got to try this spot! Had an amazing dinner of a la carte options. One of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. For my second visit, I'll need to try the Chef's menu, which is very reasonably priced.
Peter D — Google review
The decor is cute and the set up makes it a good meet up spot. Service was excellent as well. We came for brunch... and well, we opted for the shareable plates and main course. The "chefs choice" for $39 wasn't appealing to me but to each their own. Classic cheese omelet- was good, loved the side of arugula. Spaghetti squash cheese croquettes-tasty French toast- filling, felt more like a dessert Overall, the food was prepared well but nothing on the menu to entice me to return.
Mary H — Google review
Everything was phenomenal and the chefs menu was absolutely worth it. And start with the rolls, because I would go back just for those! Excellent service throughout as well. A hidden gem!

What an incredible birthday brunch experience! Nina May absolutely delivered with fantastic food and impeccable service. My friends and I were treated wonderfully from start to finish. The dishes were creative, beautifully presented, and delicious. The staff made the celebration feel special and memorable. Highly recommend for any occasion, but especially for celebrating life’s special moments!

We had a fantastic brunch at Nina May on Sunday with their set menu. Highlights included smoked salmon blinis, avocado tartine, a rich croissant sandwich with bacon and poached egg, and decadent caramelized peach pancakes with ice cream. Great food, attentive service, and a relaxed patio vibe — a perfect spot for brunch.
Son T — Google review
Nina May went above and beyond! I had a 25 person cocktail party and seated dinner for my birthday - they were very easy to work with in all the prep leading up, the service the night of was stellar (Richard and Areh are treasures!). They were flexible on allergies and food options. Added personal touches for me to the menu free of charge. And the event space was just gorgeous. I’ll be booking them again for events and HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend.

Fiola Mare is an upscale Italian seafood restaurant located in a luxurious, modern setting with stunning views of the Potomac River and the Kennedy Center. The restaurant offers a sophisticated dining experience with its nautical-themed decor, including sailboat photographs and preppy blue seats. The menu features fresh and pristine seafood dishes, accompanied by an extensive selection of wines and cocktails. While the prices are on the higher end, it's an ideal spot for special occasions due to its elegant ambiance and impeccable service.
The food was an experience. The service was the main course. The atmosphere was an incredible ambiance. This is where you go to brag that you've been. A round of applause. I do not eat seafood, and this is a seafood restaurant. Most people choose a place to eat by convenience, this place chooses you.

a beautifully decorated restaurant that is clean with waterfront views. service was good until our server got my entree order wrong even though i clarified with her twice, even pointing it out on the menu when she wrote it down. the manager apologized and the wrong entree was complimentary due to their mistake. our experience did not end any better. the server failed to ask how we wanted our checks and even gave it to us without us asking if we wanted anything else. we needed the check split 3 ways. she was hesitant to split them, saying we can write down the amounts for each card instead… i guess that would’ve been faster as it took her over 10 minutes just to separate the check. as far as the food, everything was prepared and presented beautifully. food comments are in the attached photos.

Fiola Mare is always a standout. The atmosphere is lively yet elegant, perfect for a night out. Their cocktails are crafted beautifully, and the lobster ravioli is an absolute must—rich, delicate, and memorable. The fish here is consistently super fresh, making every dish feel like it’s just come from the sea. A top-tier dining experience every time.

My boyfriend and I went to Fiola Mare to celebrate our two-year anniversary, and it was honestly perfect. The service was on another level, everyone was super attentive, friendly, and made us feel really special the whole night. You can tell the chef cares about every little detail, because the food was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. Everything was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and we felt truly taken care of from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. It was the perfect place for our celebration. Highly recommend!

Great views a really good brunch service is awesome. Food is so so stick to the normal menu. Any of the special menus are super tiny portions and very mediocre food but overall the regular breakfast menu for brunch is amazing Roger or Richard. I think the waiter's name was is amazing and Joey the manager is awesome.
Davaish S — Google review
Try the Sunday night prix fixe menu: four courses for $85. With the exception of the dessert, one of the very best meals I’ve had in DC and a bargain for the price, with excellent service and surprisingly robust portion sizes. We supplemented with a half dozen oysters (exceptional, $27) and a spinach side dish ($16, rounded out the entree). The four prix fixe courses for our dinner: Snapper crudo (exceptional) Pasta with mussels, lobster and shrimp (exceptional) Salmon with fennel puree and blood orange (excellent) Banana and chocolate pound cake (essentially a muffin, exterior was dry; partially redeemed by marscapone cream served on the side, but not on the same level as the rest of the meal) Cocktails are exceptional, wines by the glass very good, service and setting exceptional. Window tables or outside seating flanking the Potomac are superb. I look forward to another occasion here.

Incredibly delicious!!!! One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to. It was a real discovery for me. The octopus, calamari, pasta, and even the bread were all beyond exceptional. We had an amazing experience and enjoyed every bite!
Alexandra — Google review
It is one of the best restaurants at the location. We had dinner at the restaurant and we loved the total experience. The eggplant was yummy. The shrimp was good, but I think it was overpriced as we only got one piece of it. At least, they should provide 2 pieces for the price. Other than that, everything was amazing. The service was good, and we were seated outside, so we enjoyed the waterfront view. I definitely recommend the restaurant and would also suggest making reservations beforehand.

Ted's Bulletin is a bustling eatery in Capitol Hill that serves American comfort food and offers breakfast all day. The place is popular, so it's best to arrive early to avoid the brunch crowd. The restaurant has a cozy 1920s/1930s vibe with leather booths and old school movies playing on projection screens.
I had a great experience at Ted's Bulletin. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the blueberry tart, it was the highlight of my meal! The service stood out the most; the staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcomed throughout our visit. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to coming back soon.

Can’t say about other locations but this location is great! The staff here have such good vibes, they made you feel welcomed! Food comes real fast despite the busy lunch hour. We enjoyed our food a lot. Ordered some tarts to go, they are amazing!! Flaky texture and fruit stuffing are so good together. There’s a 5% surcharge, I hope the staff actually get the full amount! If they don’t, they totally deserve a raise!

Amazing Cinnamon Roll. We just stumbled upon this amazing restaurant and ended up coming here 3 days in a row. Their breakfast is great all around. If you’re lucky enough to visit when cinnamon rolls are being served order two ;) they are huge and packed full of flavor, the amount of icing could be more but it’s truly delicious. They have a tasty bakery section and everything I tried was top notch. Service was fast and friendly. Their prices were good and huge portions. Overall if you’re looking for a great meal give them a try or two!

Thank you Mr. Mabi (Sorry I'm winging the spelling). The restaurant was tidy and clean, unfortunately there was some sticky parts on our table, I'll give them 7/10 on that. Talking about the food: I ordered, ● Crispy Calamari: was dilecious but could be crispier. ● Ted's Tomato Soup: dilecious, but also could be better. ● Stovetop Chili Soup: dilecious. ● Steak and Cheese Eggrolls: dilecious ● All American Burger: good but really heavy. ● Szechuan hot chicken sandwich: good but really heavy. ● Steak frites and NY strip: dilecious. ● Ragu Lasagna: was dilecious Food quality was great, survise was really good. Thank you all. Would I come back? Yes, I would.

So good, we went here twice. An amazing chicken sandwich and lobster roll, fresh and delectable. The dessert options are not an after thought like most restaurants and nearly everything is very worth the calories. And yes, the cinnamon roll is worth showing up early for brunch, it’ll blow your mind.

I've tried this place twice now and both times, the atmosphere, the meal, and the service have been excellent. My last visit was on September 1st, and Zack did a fantastic job, even during their rush hour. The food was genuinely great, the portion size was satisfying, and I enjoyed every bite. Thank you for the consistently great experience.

Zach the ginger was a good server. The food was good, but not necessarily great. The gravy had a vinegar taste to it. Biscuits were amazing. Cheese grits. Nope. Stop making them. They taste weird. Prices were reasonable too.

Amazing place to have breakfast! From walking in, I loved the feel. The large, brass and glass revolving door was so classic. Then, walking in to the hostess, upon looking around, the overall vibe had a very 1920s/30s look and they kept it well preserved. We were sat across from the bar, very classy, which offered a view of tasty looking drinks we weren’t having prior to a race the next day. I was in town for the Marine Corps Marathon and a buddy, who is local, took us here for day-prior carbohydrate loading. Ted’s did not disappoint!! I ordered Orange juice and coffee, both as to be expected. For breakfast, I chose the Norway Benedict, it sounded so good I couldn’t pass (carb loaded a little later haha). The eggs were perfectly poached and very finely presented, and the crème fraiche hollandaise was amazing, right amount, and not at all watery. The salmon was a nice touch, well prepared and tasted great. The tater tot was really good, although tater tot sounds like an injustice… It was more of a fried shredded potato cube—ok tater tot haha. Looking back, I didn’t even eat the Dijon frisée salad, I thought it was just garnish oof. But it looked very fresh. Next time I am in DC, I will be returning to Ted’s Bulletin to try the rest of the menu.

Guests can kick off their meal with delectable garlic knots and indulge in desserts like tiramisu or freshly baked cookies paired with award-winning gelato from Dolcezza.
I love this place. The menu is full of classic pizzas and a few more interesting combos. The lil dippers are a fun addition for your pizza crusts - highly recommend that. My one critique is that everything could use a stronger sprinkle of salt. That said, the pizza and beers and tasty, and the service is friendly and quick. Great place for a slice!

Visited Washington for a week, and this place had the best pizza I’ve ever had hands down! The food was incredible, the service was top-notch, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. What really stood out was they even had a separate oven dedicated to gluten-free pizzas, which was a huge plus. If you’re in town and love pizza, this spot is an absolute must-visit!

I had an overnight diversion in DC so took a chance on the All-purpose pizzeria. Absolutely amazing! Fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors in the Buona! Crust is excellent. Definitely a must for pizza in DC. I’ll order again!

All Purpose is some of the best pizza I ever had anywhere. A hidden gem, I go once a week. The happy hour/ pizza hour is an excellent deal as well, $7 wine and mini martinis AND $11 pizza! Are you kidding me ?!?!? My go to is the Bueno pizza, pepperoni and honey, and Cesar salad. Don’t sleep on the dippers, the parmesan dip is addictive. Also, make sure you check out the specials, they have great options sometimes like Hawaiian and BBQ chicken. There was also a Julep and Pomodoro (tomato liquor) cocktail that were delish and STRONG. Great service as well :) can’t wait until they bring the brussel sprouts back in the fall.

I really loved this place. The pizza was cooked to perfection, and they use high quality ingredients! I really want to go back to try out other dishes. Five stars!

It really is the best Pizza in Shaw. Only one problem, it's the only pizza I've eaten in Shaw. Staff was amazing, food was even better! Pro tip: truffle dip your crust!

I'm properly obsessed with this place! Incredible food, an excellent wine collection, and GREAT service. Perfect middle-of-the-road pricing, for the quality of food and service it feels like a steal. We ordered dinner here from DoorDash had it to and had it delivered to our hotel after the Marine Corps marathon this weekend. The food was delicious and the homemade cookie was to die for. But your real shining star is Aaron. He answered the phone when I called to make a special request for our DoorDash order. He was extremely kind, very helpful and accommodating. I mentioned my best friend ran the marathon that morning and he sent a sweet message on our bag. Overall, our experience was great, but Aaron made our day. We would recommend your pizza and your kind staff any day ❤️ thanks for feeding us

They also feature a rotating selection of specialty loaves like quinoa-turmeric flavored with black pepper and zaatar.
This coffee shop is truly delightful. On Friday nights, they host live music, making an afternoon pick-me-up extra special. In addition to their great coffee, they also offer delicious pizza and desserts. The atmosphere is perfect for unwinding after a long day at work. The service is impeccable and efficient, and there are plenty of tables available for seating. I highly recommend stopping by here for an afternoon visit or for breakfast during the day.

Went here for a quick bite and a cup of coffee and was very impressed with the coffee. Never mind the beautiful design in the cream, it was delicious coffee. The biscuit sandwich was very flavorful as well. We sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful day as I sipped my coffee. Love the look of this place.

I came here because this place was highly recommended. The food was good, but I wish I had been given a heads up about the limited seating and the long wait for my order (25 minutes). I ordered a bahn mi and a salted caramel latte and they were good.
Angelica L — Google review
The desserts, yes, the coffee, yes, the food, maybe. We came to a baked joint after a busy day seeing the monuments. We were hot and tired and cranky and ready for something tasty and refreshing. The breakfast sandwich was small, but flavors were good. The goat cheese gave it the perfect tang. The Caesar salad was very, very ... very lemony. Not bad, but def avoid if you dont like sour. The yogurt bowl was a bit lackluster. The yogurt could use some agave or honey. The tuna salad was probably everyone's favorite entree. The coffee was great, and the desserts were good. The cupcakes were delicious. We especially loved the strawberry one.

Phenomenal experience from food to staff to ambience. Can’t wait to visit DC again just to try their other menu options. Avocado toast and salted caramel iced latte are divine
T M — Google review
We had a great experience visiting this bakery coffee shop! After finding the menu on a piece of paper in front of the register we got some egg biscuits, pastries and coffees. I especially liked the almond croissant and the salmon on baguette. The coffee was a bit underwhelming but their main focus seems to be the food. I will add this: the name of the place (a baked joint) seemed really weird to me. I almost didn’t go because of it. I’ve lived in Colorado for some years and going to a place with any marijuana theme is not a place you want to take your kids to. That being said this place did not have any marijuana theme at all and the atmosphere was really nice. Especially loved the dried flowers on display
Huibertjan F — Google review
Love this place. Service was great and the food was outstanding. Their bread lived up to the high expectations. Fig jelly with honey on sourdough was so good we went back for a repeat order. The other items - Nutella, peanut butter on toast with banana was great as well. Chai was awesome too!!!

We like this charming place, our go-to spot for good coffee and freshly baked treats. The atmosphere is delightfully bright, with plenty of seating options. A classic American restaurant family friendly and with a wide range of breakfast/brunch options. I love how they have different options depending a savory or sweet craving. Always a table available. The hash browns are the best.

Cute, hipster spot up in Petworth. They have a lot of events and the food — especially the brunch is great. I got the potato hash and a kiwi mimosa. Both hit the spot. They have indoor, bar and outdoor seating so lots of options there. Great part of town too.

Yeah I thought the food was pretty good. But here’s why the review is low. Our waiter took lowkey forever to wait on us. It’s Sunday at 3pm and pretty lowkey. I feel like she didn’t really understand what we were asking? I asked about the burrito size and she looked confused. My friend asked for a modification for the Coupe bowl and she still looked confused? Definitely felt like she rolled her eyes a few times. I liked the aesthetic of the restaurant but it just felt awkward. At the end when we were tipping I felt like we were being watched how much we were tipping. Still tipped the full 20% but it was just an off putting dining experience.

Kayla M — Google review
A classic American dinner with very standard food - we had the avocado toasts and pancakes, average. Felt a bit cheated when the bill came digitally, quickly passed to the paying and tip screen, asked if service was included, was told no and added 20%, to realize after paying that 10% service charge was already charged to the bill… if that’s the practice, it should be transparent, and if they expect 30% for the service, then service should definitely be much better. So be careful when your bill comes!

This recommendation from Odd Provisions did not disappoint. It was a beautiful day, friendly staff and great food. The Fried Green Tomatoes were perfect......nice crisp crust and a thick, firm slice. I didn't even miss the sauce, the topping was light and fresh. The Shrimp & Grits were very good, just enough spice against those creamy, cheesy grits. The Veggie burger was a big hit and very filling. My mom said "finally a burger that wasn't all starch or just straight 'shrooms", lol, and very filling. Looking towards the next visit.

Barrel is a charming whiskey lounge in Capitol Hill that offers a cozy atmosphere and a menu of Southern small plates. The place has received praise for its properly prepared biscuits, fried chicken, and modern twists on classic Southern dishes. With four locations, including one in Sioux Falls, this enduring chain is known for its meat-focused menu featuring steak variations and smothered chicken options.
Nestled in a cozy neighborhood. The drink menu was extensive and I got a chance to try some bourbons I had not had before. Bottomless Mimosas were good and came with a ginger/lime syrup in addition to the normal orange and cranberry juice. Omelette was light and fluffy. Even the toast was good. I didn't order waffles but the table next to me had them and they smelled heavenly. Be sure to ask for Conner. He was an excellent server. Very knowledgeable and really took time with our group. I recommend highly.

Decided to try this after a work dinner. The bar has a great atmosphere for the bourbon scene. Quite a selection with a menu almost too big to review it all. The bartender was very knowledgeable and explained our options well. We asked for suggestions and he didn’t lead us astray. Seemed reasonably priced for the market and based on bottle prices. Worth a stop for sure!!! **didn’t try any food

We hosted a private whiskey tasting at barrel this past weekend to celebrate a birthday and it was a phenomenal experience. Matt was so easy to work with in planning a great experience from start to finish - securing a date, planning the slate of whiskeys to taste, bringing in some special bottles for us to sample and helping with private dinner in the basement to follow. The downstairs bar has a great vibe and is super private. Matt also is super knowledgeable and started the tasting with an overview on how whiskey is made, the difference between bourbon, rye, whiskey and scotch and reviewing the specific bottles we sampled. Great option for a small private party to celebrate a special occasion!

Went here for brunch. The food was so good! Got the honey butter chicken biscuit and that honey butter was delicious. Also did the brunch fried rice which was good and well seasoned. The bottomless deal is good where it is $28 per person and they leave a champagne bottle and juice at the table so you can make your own. Service was great as well as they were super attentive.

If you love bourbon, this is the place to go!! I only drink bourbon and there were so many choices and I finally got found a Little Book that I've been wanting to try, I was the first person to try the bottle. If I lived in DC. My husband loves whiskey so we had to try this place while in DC! He got the far east flight (Japanese whiskey) and really liked it! I had a very tiny sip of the hibiki harmony and liked how light and floral it was (mind you, I’m not a whiskey fan at all)! I got the ‘you CAN drink this kool aid’ and enjoyed it! It was very fruity-like!

Barrel is an awesome Capitol Hill spot! Huge whiskey selection, creative cocktails, and tasty Southern-style comfort food. Loved the fried chicken biscuit at brunch and the lively but laid-back vibe. Friendly staff and fair prices — definitely worth a visit.

We visited because we were looking for a good spot to get cocktails and whiskey. They did not disappoint. I don't know how many whiskeys they have officially, but they have enough of them that they had to list them in their "Bourbon Bible." We tried the Nachos, crab Rangoon, and the Barrell Burger and enjoyed all of them. The nachos were delicious with shredded pork on top. The cocktails were a highlight. I found several great whiskey pours at reasonable prices (understand it's never cheap to drink bourbon out), and my wife and daughter loved their cocktails they ordered. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cool and rustic, and the whole vibe makes it a place worth trying. I hope to come back before our trip is over.

We came for restaurant week and had a great time. It was four courses and we added the four drinks to go with it. It was especially nice that they did regular menu items + regular sizes so you could get a sense of what it is usually like. The bread and dips were great, we really liked the potatoes and brussel sprouts. We did the lamb kebab and chicken for a main course. By then we were pretty stuffed. Both were delicious and well seasoned. The chicken was a tiny bit dry, but had ample sauce to compensate. We tried both desserts and were super pleased. All of our drinks were pleasant and fun. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. The staff were kind and attentive. Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I went for our anniversary based off a recommendation from friends. The atmosphere was great both outside and in. The staff went above and beyond. If I could offer any advice, listen to their recommendations for food and drink. We had amazing cocktails, small plates, entrees and desserts. The Kunafa was incredible and we went back for seconds on the Halloumi Wraps. The Short Ribs Pide and Adana Kebab were mouth watering. Everything was phenomenal. We had an unforgettable dinner at ala in DuPont. Our server Jamie was a wonderful host and accommodating for our dietary restrictions. The food was some of the best we’ve had in DC. Some favorites were the za’atar labneh, baba ghanoush, duck prosciutto, and chicken thigh kebab. Do not skip on the white chocolate pistachio baklava and house made teas for dessert. Fun vibes to come for a date or group. Come hungry!

Will recommend without hesitation!

Great restaurant in the heart of DuPont circle, DC. The ambience was top tier and the service was excellent (special shoutout to Erick). The food was very flavorful and they had a quite a good variety of eastern Mediterranean dishes (specifically Turkish and Greek). Note, this place is pricey! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend if you are a hearty eater as the portion sizes are quite small. However if you are, the “tasting experience” is probably your best bet ($58 when we visited) which allows you to choose from any 3 of their hot or cold mezzes. I highly recommend the pita and hummus (might have been the best I’ve had). The Ras-El Hanout short ribs also deserves a shoutout. Overall, it’s a great spot for a dinner date as the atmosphere is hard to beat.

A downtown restaurant, very close to the White House. The place is large, spread over two floors, and well designed inside, featuring a piano bar and a central counter. The staff is quick, friendly, and efficient in answering any questions about the dishes. The food is excellent, and the prices are in line with what is offered. Both the sandwich and the meat platter were outstanding. And if you want to finish on a high note, the cream-filled profiteroles are simply fabulous. Six big, delicious ones—I ate them all. A small note: I would suggest adding a cutlery rest, and also serving more Brie in the Brie-and-apple appetizer—it was almost invisible. Highly recommended!

I can not say enough good about this place and it's breakfast!! First we ordered coffee and a plate of the beignets. The beignets were absolute HEAVEN! A plate of six comes with three sauces, chocolate, raspberry and caramel. All delicious! My husband and I both ordered the breakfast tacos for our main dish. It came with a side of hash Browns. Everything was amazing! The tacos were VERY tasty! Our friends we're visiting from Chicago. They ordered eggs/ omelet with bacon, hash browns and sides of pancakes/ french toast. I tried a bite of my buddy's french toast because it looked so delicious I couldnt resist! I don't Even like French toast and I have to say that it was amazing as well. Besides the food being great and plentiful, which is something I always think about when picking a place to eat. I don't like leaving hungry after I just paid for a meal. I also don't go out very often to places like this so I always appreciate that it was even more than I could eat. I brought one of my tacos home!! The prices are very reasonable! Especially for the area. That was also one of the reasons I chose this location to bring my friends. It has great reviews and the pictures that I saw of the food looked amazing. It did not disappoint. My friends even said that I picked phenomenally in choosing Founding Farmer's!! It is 100% a restaurant you should visit while in for breakfast especially! We do plan to go back for lunch or dinner to check that out too! Our server was amazing as well and the atmosphere is nice. They have outdoor and indoor sting as well as a bar!! We chose to sit outside as it was a decent day! All and all if I could give them ten stars I would!!!!

My ride-or-die restaurant when I’m in DC. Fresh ingredients and plenty of options to please every palate — salads, sandwiches, fish and meat plates, pastas, and more. My risotto was good, but I expected a bit more flavor considering all the ingredients. Next time, I’ll try the scallops. The French fries are some of the best you’ll ever taste, and their natural sodas are super refreshing — I had the hibiscus one. Better make a reservation in advance, it’s always packed. Extremely Disappointed – Quality Has Seriously Declined I’m genuinely disappointed with how far this place has fallen. It used to be one of the best spots around for both vegan and regular food — great quality, great service. Sadly, that’s no longer the case. On my most recent visit, the food was borderline inedible. The French fries were completely burned, yet somehow also soggy and greasy — as if they'd been preheated in old oil and left out too long. The veggie burger was downright disgusting. The tomato tasted off, almost spoiled, and the overall flavor was just bad. Nothing felt fresh or properly cooked. This isn't an isolated incident, either. It’s the second time in a row I’ve had serious issues with the food here, and it’s clear the quality has dropped dramatically. Whatever has changed — whether it’s the kitchen staff, suppliers, or management — it’s for the worse. Really hope they turn things around, but for now, I won’t be coming back.

Mediterranean restaurant
Zaytinya by José Andrés is a popular spot in Washington D.C., offering an innovative mezze menu inspired by Turkish and Lebanese cuisines. The restaurant provides a light and airy ambiance, perfect for families and friends to enjoy small plates and regional wines. With outdoor patio seating, it's an ideal place for a night out.
Zaytinya by José Andrés is a highly regarded Mediterranean small plates restaurant in Washington, D.C., specializing in Greek, Turkish, and Lebanese mezze. It has been recognized by the Michelin Bib Gourmand (Best Value Recommendation). The unique mezze dishes feature a diverse selection of ingredients, are suitable for sharing, and offer excellent value. The food is consistently excellent, with lunch prices ranging from $15 to $35, and dinner is also reasonable. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is elegant. The restaurant's modern design with a Mediterranean aesthetic is ideal for business or friends. It has an excellent local reputation. Recommended repeatedly by locals, it is one of the most consistently popular restaurants in the José Andrés family. Reservations are essential, especially on weekends, as walk-ins are rarely accepted. While the menu is affordable, portions are small, and the food is served quickly, so don't overorder and refills are available. The bread is a highlight. Zaytinya is a small-plate Mediterranean restaurant that combines visual design with excellent value. The elegant ambiance, professional service, and excellent dining atmosphere create a wonderful atmosphere. The menu is rich and varied, perfect for sharing and exploring different flavors. If you want to try the José Andrés line but don't want to break the bank, it's a solid choice.

Zaytinya is one of my favorite go to restaurants. I love their outdoor seating patio, which they have invested in since COVID. The patio has covered tents and actual fine dining chairs and tables that elevate the area. I’ve eaten outdoors during temperate winter days as well and their heaters work well in making the patio toasty. Service has always been fantastic with attention paid to detail (such as wiping off the table in between courses). I love their bread (airy and light but with substance) and they have dedicated waiters who specifically pass bread hot from the ovens out so you’re always well supplied. Last time I dined with Zaytinya, we were surprised with a little course of spreads as complimentary for being frequent diners and the recognition was a pleasant and well received surprise (we had invited guests from out of town and the generosity set a jovial tone for the rest of the service). My favorite dishes are the labneh (creamy but with the right amount of zest), the sea scallops (never overcooked but with the right amount bounce to the flesh), and the garides me antho (buttery shrimp with dill, shallots, mustard, and lemon - absolutely a decadent flavor profile). Zaytinya has a great location right across from the metro and it’s little corner is distanced enough away from Chinatown where the noise level is quiet and enclosed. I always find myself coming back here for every couple of months because I enjoy the experience!

Zaytinya, one of José Andrés’s long-standing DC restaurants, has been a favorite in the city for years. It had been quite a while since I last dined there, but I recently attended a reception and was reminded why it’s still such a Washington hotspot. The restaurant is beautiful and inviting. There’s a striking, colorful metal sculpture out front that immediately catches your eye. Zaytinya is also in a prime location—just a block from Capital One Arena and directly across from the National Portrait Gallery. When the weather’s nice, the outdoor patio is a great option for dining al fresco. Inside, you instantly feel transported to the Mediterranean. The bar, main dining room, and upstairs area are spacious and stylish, setting the perfect tone for a lively meal. We enjoyed a delicious spread that included hummus topped with pomegranate seeds, baba ghanoush, tzatziki, crispy pita chips, falafel, and chicken kebabs. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The staff was wonderful, especially Diego, who took excellent care of our group. Thank you, Diego, for making our evening even better! ✨ Zaytinya remains one of DC’s most popular spots, and based on how packed it was that night, I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Atmosphere is beautiful, food was totally good, but not spectacular. I think the overall score of 4.5 is fair. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, the babaganoush was just okay. The pita looks cool, but I wish it was a bit thicker. The crunchy vegetables was just raw veggies. If you wanna save 20%, use inKind.

The food was VERY good. The atmosphere is one of those hang-out places so it was extremely loud and difficult to speak to anyone (almost like you have to scream at each other to here one another) I love the food. I loved the service. But it was just too noisy. It would be great if they had a private room (or the best time to go is towards the end of dinner when the place started to clear-out. It was much quieter.
Combat F — Google review
I’d give 10 stars if that was an option. The food was fresh with the perfect amount of flavor. The tapas style allowed us to share, which I loved. I forgot to take pics of a few other meal items because we dived in and started devouring the food, so I’m just posting what I have. Our server provided some awesome recommendations which led to me trying the delicious dessert. The puffed bread was so light and airy. I’ll be back.

My cousin treated me here. This is her favorite restaurant in DC! They offer Greek, Turkish and Lebanese cuisine. Zaytinya has a selection of unique Mediterranean wines. Our server, Ariel, was very attentive to our needs. All in all, a gratifying dinner to remember!
Ludette — Google review
We ordered an array of dishes for the table and everything was fantastic!! It is honestly hard to pick a favorite dish since everything was so good! The warm bread pita puffs they bring out to the table with hummus were soooo good! My only critique is that our waitress was a little slow. We came in early evening on Friday without a reservation and the host got a table but let us know that they needed the table in a hour and half for a reservation. Totally understandable… we did our best to be done within our allotted time and we made it with a minute to spare despite our waitress who was in La La land half of the time. Overall this place is 10/10 and the highlight of our food stops while in town for the weekend!!

Traditional American restaurant

Brunch restaurant
Martins Tavern is a popular American eatery located in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. Established in 1933, this cozy tavern has been a local landmark since the Great Depression and has had the honor of serving every president from Harry S. Truman to George W. Bush. The charming interior with wooden booths provides a delightful dining experience, while outdoor seating is also available.
Absolutely blown away by our experience at Martin's Tavern for my birthday dinner! From the moment we were seated in the historic Lyndon Johnson booth – what a thrill! – to the last bite of the incredible bread pudding, everything was simply perfect. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly cooked and a delicious way to begin. For our mains, the fish and chips were classic and satisfying, and the lobster risotto was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. But the true showstopper was the bread pudding dessert. It was truly incredible – warm, decadent, and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Beyond the delicious food, our waiter was so friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome and well cared for throughout the evening. The atmosphere in the tavern is steeped in history and charm, adding to the overall wonderful experience. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this dinner and experience. Martin's Tavern is a must-visit for a special occasion or just a memorable night out. Highly recommend!

It is a famous spot, so it is a good idea to make a reservation. The service was great. The atmosphere was fine. It has a sense of history, but it was a bit noisy because there were a lot of people. Ordered pasta and meatloaf. The meatloaf tasted just like the classic meatloaf one would have at home. I was eating and laughing at the same time because it reminded me exactly of what I have had at home. The pasta was just a normal pasta. It did not wow me. Overall, I would see this as a one-time spot.
Selkie O — Google review
The food was fresh and quickly delivered, cooked to perfection (fish was perfectly pan seared, fish and chips as well, beef served as ordered). Service was excellent. But the operational fee was a surprise, 5-6% it is quite a lot and unexpected. We have been visiting the place years ago, and cannot remember this fee.
Alina P — Google review
I had a hamburger at Martin’s Tavern this afternoon. It was a full 1/2 pound and it was excellent. The service was excellent, and the portions were quite generous. The one strange thing on the bill was an operational fee of 6%. I asked two different servers what this was for and they could not explain. A copy of the bill is attached. I feel that it would be more appropriate from a customer satisfaction standpoint that they just increase the prices of everything by 6% rather than having a 6% operational fee attached to the bill. Martin’s Tavern has been around for many years. It is a lot of fun to sit in the booths which were used by presidents and other famous luminaries. They even have have places where they sat at Martin’s Tavern labeled.

Martin’s Tavern is one of the oldest American restaurants and bars I’ve ever visited 🍻🇺🇸. I was intrigued by its history — JFK famously proposed to Jackie here — so of course I had to sit at The Proposal Booth 💍✨. Beyond the legacy, it’s the kind of place where you can just sit at the bar, order comfort food, and fall into conversation with strangers. When I lived in DC, Georgetown was one of my favorite neighborhoods 🌆❤️. I’d often come here, and some of those “strangers” at the bar — politicians, lawyers, regulars — even turned into friends. That culture of mingling and connection is something I deeply miss now that I’m back in Asia. Short and true: my experiences here remain unmatched. 🌟

Food was good. Guinness was at its peak good pour. Andrea was we helpful and took care of out meal. All the staff were well mannered. Felt like a good old pub in UK.
Bungatavula A — Google review
My fiancé recommended me this D.C. classic restaurant before I traveled to the Capital City last week. He told me President JFK proposed First Lady Jackie at this place back in 1953 when his predecessor was in office. Therefore I decided to give it a try during my short stay in The Beltway. The first meal I ordered that Friday night was an Original Brunswick Stew. It was a delicious soup which reminded me of the beef stew my own grandmother cooked when I was growing up in my native Bolivia. The deliciousness of their stew led me to try their own Grandma Martin’s Meatloaf. This delicious meatloaf is made of a soft beef cut which made it fall off the fork with the first cut. It also melts in your mouth with tenderness. I could not help but pairing it with a Diora Pinot Noir wine. What a great combination it was. Martin’s Tavern therefore became the only restaurant during my stay in DC to which I went back for a second time. Because my cousin wanted to try it after I told him about it. I must recognize that despite how busy the restaurant was when I stepped a foot inside, Ramon managed to shorten my wait time to even less than 10 minutes. He made sure I received a personalized attention, I should say. He possesses a great amount of emotional intelligence and empathy for those who are lone patrons like I was. His customer service skills contributed to my return to this place. On the second time, he was even more attentive than usual. He offered my cousin a glass of orange juice free of charge after I told him he needed something sweet. This beverage placated my relative until Jose Zelaya, our server in the second night, brought us dinner. My cousin ordered Calamari and Shrimp, which quenched his hunger momentarily until his Atlantic Salmon came. He was highly satisfied with how his fish fillet was cooked. We also drank wine. He had a glass of Girlan Pinot Grigio while I had a glass of Mar de Fredes Albariño. I cannot complain about José’s customer service skills at all. Unlike Solomon who served me the first night, Jose’s middle name is attentiveness. He was attentive to our table ensuring we were having a good time. I am not the kindest tipper in the world but he truly earned his 20 percent tip. I honestly love the atmosphere of this restaurant. Its appearance truly reflects the one of an American Traditional Restaurant. It has remained stuck in the times of Old Georgetown. Everything is brown inside. From the chairs and tables to the bar and stools to its very own walls. I do not mind, however. Because that is the reason you come to a historic landmark like this establishment. Furthermore, when specific events which took place at its location enhance its prestige. If you are looking for a historical gastronomical landmark in your next trip to DC, then you better come to Martin’s Tavern. Their food only gets better with time. Its culinary staff truly take pride in cooking American traditional cuisine. But their delicious product would not be the same without the amazing customer service Ramon and others provide us patrons within their atmosphere. Thank You Very Much for everything Guys!

Native American restaurant
Located in the National Museum of the American Indian, Mitsitam Native Foods Cafe is a popular dining spot offering gourmet Native American cuisine. Despite its high-end dining experience, it maintains a cafeteria-style setting, making it accessible to all visitors. The menu features a diverse selection of seasonal and indigenous foods from various regions across the Western Hemisphere.
I heard amazing things about it the food at this museum and knew I couldn’t leave DC without it trying it for myself. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by the scents wafting from the food court. I ordered the Sweet Ginger Peach Fry Bread and the Potlatch-spiced Idaho steelhead trout with a side of hazelnut honey-roasted butternut squash salad. The servings were generous and filling. I was blown away by how amazing the food tasted. The flavors were perfect, and the fish well cooked. I enthusiastically recommend this as one of the best, if not the best, museum restaurants that I have ever had. It is pretty expensive though, particularly if ordering more than one dish or for more than one person.

One of the best dining options on the mall. Especially for those visiting. Seasonal and interesting menu options that are not easy to find elsewhere. Very efficiently run, and quick food options. The prices really have ballooned in the last few years, but I guess it’s the same everywhere, especially for quality food made from scratch. On the most recent visit, I ordered a lamb stew, a tostada, and a sweet fried bread dessert with a berry sauce and walnuts.

I always love coming here. This time in had the fry bread taco. Always good, and filling. The peach fry bread is also really tasty. I wish they had more Indigenous drinks like cedar and sumac tea or more North Eastern Nation dishes. I still love the offerings they have.

I really liked the cafe, authentic Native Americans unusual and delicious dishes that are worth trying. The cafe is located right in the museum, you can combine a visit to the museum and the cafe. There are tables with a view of a small artificial waterfall outside the window, very beautiful. I highly recommend visiting this cafe.

Meals were quite pricey for a cafeteria but the museum is free, balancing it out a bit. I had food from the woodlands and coastlines menu and it didn’t disappoint. Fresh, whole foods with earthy flavors. The mini waterfall outside makes a for a great view by the window.

This is part of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. It's a cafeteria style restaurant with food based on different Indian cultures. We had the Fry Bread Taco and you get A LOT on your plate. It's a little pricey, but like I said, we got a lot of food and its not your basic fare which we liked. Staff was friendly. Would recommend.

BEST MUSEUM FOOD EVER!!! Beyond impressed by Mitsitam. There are unique food options inspired by native foods like the chicken tostada and the fry breads. The rice is incredible and all the food is vibrant and flavorful. Service is cafeteria style and easy to navigate. Seating area is beautiful and there is plenty of room. This is truly the best museum food and if you’re visiting Smithsonians 100% come here for lunch.

We were at the air museum and it didn’t look appealing at all. I looked for close by restaurants and found this one at the Native American museum and wow. We had the bison burgers. Fresh cooked to order and the tomato jam was awesome add on. Then we had the apple fry bread for desert. This is the best meal I’ve had in DC so far. I would come here just for the food. Highly recommend.

Sequoia DC is a spacious American restaurant located at the Washington Harbour in Georgetown, offering dramatic river views and a stylish design. The restaurant boasts a killer terrace and an entire room filled with unique food stations, including a raw bar, breakfast specialties, and a magical dessert display. Additionally, chef specialties such as fish, chicken, and pasta are available on the buffets.
I can’t wait to visit again! I want to start off by saying George made my visit worthwhile. I made a reservation for my birthday and was treated as such. I’ve been thinking about this restaurant since I left. George kept my table (of 10 people) entertained, satisfied and educated us on every dish. 10/10, my Sequoia experience was memorable. One of my best restaurant experiences.

I went with my family for the Saturday brunch. We went because they served a buffet menu with bottomless mimosas. Alas, this is no longer true. They do serve bottomless mimosas though which were very good. We ordered appetizers and entrees. The food was pretty decent. A little on the pricey side (roughly $400 for five people) We enjoyed the outdoor seating with views of the Potomac. Our servers were very attentive and consistently filled our water and drinks. Empty dishes were taken away promptly. It was a nice experience. Doubt I would return.

I recently visited Sequoia to try their happy menu and it was phenomenal from the service, interior dining space, and menu offerings. Everything I sampled from happy hour - elote, lobster roll, ceviche, chicken tacos, mini tarts, truffles - was very well portioned with amazing flavor. The service is impeccable with the team making sure drinks are promptly refilled, tables are cleared and making sure the dining experience is exceptional. I spent most of the evening on their outdoor patio with views of the Georgetown waterfront. $$ Paid parking decks nearby and paid street parking

We had a wonderful experience here. The terrace on a summer evening with views of the Kennedy Center absolutely set it apart from other Georgetown locations. While the alcohol is a little on the pricier side, the food is a true value for DC, especially Georgetown and was great quality. We had the filet mignon for $36, excellent portion, and the lobster flatbread for $18 is an unbelievable deal on a unique item. Our service was warm and even on a Saturday night everything moved quickly.

Enjoyed a delicious dinner at Sequoia tonight! Our server, Fabian, was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and made some great suggestions. My husband really enjoyed his smoked Old Fashioned and I loved the Pinot Grigio. We started with the Lobster Flat bread it was tasty but the cheese was a little too heavy for us. I had the grilled Branzino and it was perfectly done! My husband had the Seabass with bok choy and he said it was delicious. The waterfront view is quite lovely. Definitely check out this restaurant, food, drinks and staff are great!! I gave it 4 stars because the bright lighting takes away from the restaurant having a really cool vibe and ambience.

Had dinner on the patio overlooking the water. I got the branzino and my co worker got the sea bass. The sea bass was a bit sweet but we liked both the dishes! For appetizer we got the crab fritters which I really liked - had a kick to it.

I visited Sequoia for the Sunday brunch buffet and had a great experience! Our server did an amazing job keeping the bottomless mimosas flowing, which made the brunch even better. The buffet itself had a wide variety of option. Definitely one of the better big brunch buffets I’ve been to. The quality of the food matched the quantity, which isn't always the case. Overall, a solid choice for a lively brunch with great views and service.

I was with a party of 8 and it was our first visit. The food was delicious, however, I do not believe they are equipped to handle larger parties. We waited quite some time for water, drink orders and food. The servers were walking around as if they did not know which tables to serve. Overall, once we did receive service…..it was good. I would definitely try it again. I ordered the shrimp and crab salad….so delicious!

Founding Farmers Nice place to gather after a busy day viewing museums. The location was easy to find. The Labor Day holiday allowed free and easy access to street parking. The restaurant is spacious and inviting with a nice outdoor patio area. Service was prompt and friendly. Their lunch/ dinner menu was quite extensive. I did wish was that the music was toned down in volume. Their menu was quite extensive and the prices seemed about par for the area. The fried green tomatoes was ok, but I would have liked a lighter touch to the batter that was used. I had the Shrimp and Grits, Andouille which was a bit salty and the portion of grits was quite meager. But everyone completed their meal and were well filled. I hear their brunch is quite popular.

The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious. Had the right amount of heat and flavor. The beignets where a miss. They tasted like a fried donut, very heavy and doughy. Verus a light and fluffy beignet. Service is fast and staff is nice and helpful.

We did brunch buffet this past weekend and to he honest it was alright. We went there 11:30sh and most of the food are not getting refilled or they take long to refill. Location: It is located along Massachusetts Avenue. There is a lot of seatings inside and the main buffet spot is in the middle. Service: the guy served us was good. Food: to be honest the food was alright. It is a hit and missed. Most of the food trays are empty so you have to go back twice or trice to check if they refill it which they don’t. My favorites were the ribs, roast beef, beignet which you must get!!! Otherwise other food is generic. Also not much choices for a $45 dollar buffet. Price rating: 9/10. We pay $110 for 2 people including tips. It is probably worth it if they refill food quickly. Will probably not come back for buffet here, maybe regular menu is better.

Dining experience went well. We had the brunch buffet. The Southern fried chicken and the mashed potatoes were definitely my favorite. There were several items that were overcooked (Chinese fried chicken, bourbon like chicken, fried shrimp, the glazed salmon and catfish. Sacha, our server, was great. She was attentive and knowledgeable. We even tried some a la carte items that we did not really care for (the crab dip). The cheesy buckwheat grits were “different.” They tasted good but the texture was not that of your normal grits.

My husband and I stopped here for an early lunch on a Sunday. There were a few groups waiting to be seated at a table when we walked in, but we were able to find some open seats at the bar. It was very lively with the breakfast/brunch bar, but we decided to order coffees and sandwiches. I got a hot mocha with no whip, while my husband ordered an iced vanilla latte. Both were ridiculously good, nice espresso-forward flavors without being overly sweet. The sandwiches look so unassuming (my husband had the pastrami and I had the turkey BLT), but are huge and sooooo good. Hand cut fries were delicious and the onion rings are massive, yet so soft and crispy! Definitely no biting into these onion rings where the whole onion pulls away from the breading. We both were only able to eat half of our meals at the time, but they also packed well to-go and ate nicely after sitting in the fridge for a bit. Definitely a spot we’ll pop into again when we’re in the area!

This place was okay. The service was a bit shotty because the restaurant is super busy. I could tell that our waiter was a bit irritated sometimes but overall our group had a good experience. I had the drunken noodles but I didn’t feel they were that great. It was very oily and I pretty much only ate the onions and protein in it. The biscuit was really good but they definitely came out cold.

Went here for brunch with a few friends on their recommendation and it was very delicious. It is a true Belgian cafe with a full waffle menu! My friends got interesting items, including the baguette which came with some wonderful butters. If you are in Eastern Market, stop in for breakfast foods! You will not be disappointed.

Had a light brunch? We both only ordered one dish. And the total came out to be $50 quite high, but understandable for area. The skillet I ordered was quite nice, with the meat, sauce, eggs and potatoes meshing quite well. However, the fruit waffle was not only quite small, but it felt a bit insulting for the price. I understand the fruits may be somewhat exotic for the US consumer? But I would hardly think that figs, mango and melons would justify $20 for a single waffle. Bit dissatisfied, but we also didn't try much of the menu. 6/10

Belga Café is a fantastic spot on Barracks Row that delivers an authentic Belgian experience in both atmosphere and cuisine. The mussels are an absolute must—fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions with delicious broth perfect for dipping. The interior has a cozy, European charm, perfect for a date night or brunch with friends. Service was friendly and attentive, and the vibe is just upscale enough without feeling stuffy. Boqueria Dupont is a chic and stylish Spanish tapas bar and restaurant located in Dupont. The light, wood-paneled interior creates a relaxing atmosphere, making it a popular meeting place for nearby office workers. The happy hour deals offer an array of options including $7 wine cocktails, $25 pitchers of sangria, and classic Mediterranean snacks like patatas bravas and Spanish omelet. Additionally, the brunch at Boqueria is highly recommended as one of DC's finest.
This restaurant offers an exceptional dining Our experience at the restaurant was truly exceptional. Our server, Mauricio, skillfully guided us through a culinary journey that showcased delicate and layered flavors, diverse textures, and freshly prepared dishes. The tapas were a delightful surprise, and the paella was the star of the meal. To our delight, we finished with choros and a chocolate torta, which made for a lovely ending. We opted for the chef's menu, which might be challenging for those with a limited appetite. The portion sizes were just right, although we ended up with leftovers. Unfortunately, we couldn't give the seafood paella the attention it deserved because we were so full by that point. It was also a bit on the dry side, which could be part of the standard preparation method. My top picks are the ATún Canario (amazing new flavor) the Gambas Al Ajillo, and the Croquetas De Setas. Please refer to the marked menu for the items we ordered from the chef's menu. Mauricio demonstrated remarkable expertise in accommodating our dietary restrictions, as we don’t eat pork. We highly recommend visiting this restaurant again.

We came in for brunch and had a great experience. Our server was informative and attentive. We enjoyed the brunch feast, it was fun sampling many different plates. Everything was delicious. For 30$ each we left with leftovers and were stuffed. I’d love to come back again and try the regular chefs tasting too.

There’s a vibe here for SURE! We came on a Tuesday night (before the government shutdown of 2025) and it was PACKED! The music was awesome & the service was excellent! The food was hood to us but I can see some people maybe not liking some of it because it’s not your usual serving sizes. It’s Tapas, which is like appetizer size and most of them were great. Here’s the breakdown: - Pan con tomate - A no-go. It literally tastes like wet bread with tomato 👎 - Ensalada Cesar - Good but a bit dry (large portion) - Croquetas Jamon - Okay but a very small piece of ham inside & not what we expected, at all. The puree lost us - Choripan - Very good tastes like the real Choripans - Calamares - Great & tasty - Coca de Costillas - Very good & tasty flatbread Overall, there’s a lot of ham in the menu so if you’re not a pork eater, beware. The drinks were great!

We got 6 things for 2 people and we’re stuffed, the Brussels sprouts and the shrimps were our favorite. The carrots and croquettes were also very good (were sweet tooth’s). The Mac and cheese wasn’t the best but still decent, and for dinner we had tea the olive oil cake which was so good!

Visited on a pleasantly busy Friday night and sat at the bar. I could tell I was in for a treat and wish I would have started the night here. The bartender was lovely and helped me immediately as I sat down with menus and water. The drink was refreshing and not too strong with each ingredient described being identifiable. The two menu items I got were equally delicious. Cannot wait to return with a group of friends to try as many dishes as possible! Will be returning.

The atmosphere was modern, and the outdoor seating filled up quickly. The happy hour (4–6 PM) offered a great selection, and overall, the food was delicious. However, the paella we had today was a bit disappointing, as the bottom was burnt and some of the rice was undercooked. It would also be nice if there were more mocktail options available for those who don’t drink alcohol.

Excellent food and fresh flavors. Really loved the experience of eating here. The serving staff was kind and always paid close attention to us. Would highly recommend giving this establishment a shot!

We opted to choose from the Tapas lunch menu for 2. It was fabulous. The flavors are on point. Def a place to go and grab a bite. We each had a different margarita, both of which were great as well.

The Diner, located in the heart of Adams Morgan, is a versatile 24-hour eatery that caters to a diverse range of clientele throughout the day. From families and office workers to students and late-night revelers, this retro-style establishment transforms its ambiance to suit different crowds. The menu features creative comfort food, including breakfast favorites like buttermilk pancakes and southwest frittata, as well as entrees such as jambalaya and fish tacos.
A no frills 24 hour diner, just like the name suggests. Tables move quick and service was fast and friendly. Outside seating or bar seating too. A collection of cocktails and beer if you desire. Food was above average with all the classics and portions that will fill you up. Family friendly with milkshakes and a kids menu. Prices were fair. Just a simple diner that you can't go wrong with. Parking will be difficult.

The DINER is in proximity to the zoo and open 24/7. I was here on a Monday morning and the diner was almost empty. The food is typical for a diner, with sandwiches, waffles, eggs, pancakes, and hash browns. I had a premium breakfast, including hash browns, a pancake, sausages, and scrambled eggs, and an orange juice (approximately 23 Dollars). The service was friendly. The food was fast prepared, a huge portion and the taste was good. I can recommend the DINER.

We came in for sunday brunch and the food was delicious and worth the trip! The bartender made fabulous drinks for the table! Our server Ary went above and beyond with the service, being attentive and making us feel like valued guests. We are already planning our next visit

I had a very average huevos rancheros with chorizo and pickled jalapeños on top, served with a side of cheese grits. I tasted my partner’s chicken wrap sandwich and didn’t like it at all. Our hotel desk recommended this place, but I don’t see the point.

Horrible early am service (4am) with the same servers each time I come. They cannot handle an influx of customers and will choose not to seat you or serve you (we had to go to the bar to get service after waiting 30 minutes for a menu). When bringing this to the attention of the server, he was rude, argued, got nasty, and blamed everything except himself. This place has decent food, but the headache and experience were just not worth it. Shameful for a diner. Do better.

Nothing beats a 24hr diner. The Diner has great food and an awesome ambiance. Staff is always friendly and food is well priced.

Reprint new menues instead of being shady about paying your servers an acceptable wage.... How shady to have the only sign posted between the bathroom and employee door. I'm half tempted to contact and attorney and see if this is legal Update: I went back by the business today and still see no signs other than the one in the back. Also, please explain where on your website and menu this is stated. Still can't find it. DC isn't the only place to pay an acceptable wage. The rest of us reprint new menus so as not too upset customers

Italian restaurant
Iron Gate Restaurant is a chic establishment that offers a blend of Italian and Greek small plates, as well as a tasting menu, in an enhanced courtyard setting. Housed in a historic townhouse with a former stable and carriageway, the cozy dining room features rustic dark wood beams, leather banquettes, and a fireplace. Meanwhile, the trellised garden patio at the back provides a lovely and lively atmosphere that remains heated and open almost year-round.
We came to Iron Gate to celebrate my partner’s birthday, and it was a lovely experience. The indoor dining area is charming and intimate, perfect for a special occasion. We tried several dishes. The standout was the fava bean salad. It’s savory yet refreshing with a well-seasoned dressing. The beans had such a nice texture. We also loved the short rib, flavorful and fall-off-the-bone tender. The presentation looks great too. For dessert, we had the light and refreshing panna cotta, just the right way to end the meal. The restaurant also surprised us with complimentary drinks and cake pops to help us celebrate. Very thoughtful and generous. Service was warm and attentive throughout. So glad we dined here for a memorable birthday celebration.

Great place! My wife and I were there for a Friday night dinner. It was the first time trying Mediterranean food. I just came to the US. Back in my country I used to eat food with spices like indian and Middle Eastern food. I used to think Mediterranean food was not that good but this place completely changed my mind. The food was delicious and the place was very well decorated. The service was also very good we have no complaints. Especially our host Joey was so nice. He was very welcoming and friendly. He described all about the food and also gifted us with some delicious food and drink. If you go there he is the guy you want, trust me. Overall it was a great night will surely go back sometime.

Would I recommend? Yes Super cool interior layout Shout out to our server Joey, who was amazing and made us feel comfortable straight away. Did the market table ($95) with wine pairing (75, 4 pours) Pairings were right up my alley (pun intended). Standouts were the beet ravioli and oyster, Branzino was fresh and light, only thing we didn’t care for was the broccoli dish. Would definitely come back again just for more ravioli!

Omg! What a night it was!! I felt so cozy as well as my husband! We both felt so honored and loved with all the experience! The food, cozy ambiance, soft music and our soft little chitchat made our whole night! Thanks to the chef who has served all the delicious food! Me and my husband tried the oyster for the first time! It was so delicious! The ravioli pasta! The best! Our best part was our host Joey! He was so friendly and kind to us and make us understand everything through the menu! Gave us gift food! It couldn’t even more comfortable than this! Thanks Joey and the whole team to make our Friday night unforgettable!❤️

Everything including the food service and vibe were good. Nothing was amazing/ phenomenal so it’s a 4 not a 5. We couldn’t have the 4 course meal since it’s family stuff but tried the focaccia, crudo, beetroot ravioli, branzino and ribeye followed by the chocolate mousse dessert. The ravioli was probably my favourites and really worth the price. The rest seemed a bit overpriced.
Monika — Google review
I struggled with the four or five stars. All the five star things first the food was excellently prepared. The presentation was exquisite, and the atmosphere is very quaint and quintessential DC. It was restaurant week. We started with the chilled summer squash, soup, and the tomato and watermelon with feta cheese. My partner has a dairy and there wasn’t supposed to be any feta cheese on their salad. But was. They also dropped off bread with the starters that I just assumed came with starters. The entrée for me was the bread pudding French toast with peaches. It was served warm and was exquisite for my partner they had the eggs cooked in olive oil with potatoes. We finished with the sherbet, which unlike normal sherbet was extraordinary, and also the chocolate food in which was pretty good a little heavy for my taste.. The four Star… slow so slow on getting our dishes we overheard another table had received our starters accidentally - well the bread I thought was included was the other tables but, we got billed for it!?! We will definitely go back and hope their staffing issues - DC political issues (national guard/ ICE immigration) are resolve by then. The food was so good - Tonya the bartender so nice… we forgave the slow service.
Christopher P — Google review
This place has been on my “to visit” list for a few years! The patio space outside is super cute, and the inside decor and vibe are also very cute and cozy. Came here for summer restaurant week and was pretty disappointed. A few dishes on the pre-set menu were unavailable (not too crazy, just a little disappointing considering the menu was already limited for restaurant week), and every single dish came out on a dirty plate. We had a reservation for 1:30, and probably had about 45 minutes to an hour of time between the first appetizer dish being brought out and the second. After receiving the entree, we were quickly given dessert and told that there was “no rush but there is a wedding in an hour”. I’d be willing to come back during a non restaurant week time in hopes that I could explore the whole menu but found it chaotic, messy, and poorly timed when they had an event in the afternoon! Despite all this, the French toast was really delicious and the real star of the show!
Genovi J — Google review
To preface: I visited Iron Gate for brunch during Restaurant Week. Service during my visit was egregiously awful, to put it bluntly. It took a little over 2 hours for us to be served the 3 course meal that they were offering. Communication was practically nonexistent - our waiter stopped by our table once to apologize about the food taking long to come out, but we did not hear much besides that. The poor communication extended to the food. One of the entrees that we ordered was a "caramelized ricotta gnocchi" dish that came with pomodoro sauce, garlic, torn basil, and parmesan cheese. What we were served was a rigatoni pasta that maybe had pomodoro sauce and parmesan cheese as described? But there was not a single "caramelized ricotta gnocchi" on the plate that they gave us. The other entree was two olive oil fried eggs that came with crispy potatoes, salsa verde, and a simple farm greens salad. This one was much closer but they didn't come with potatoes - we had to ask for them and we were given tater tots. Before you call this a simple mistake, I watched them serve this dish to multiple people and none of them came with the potatoes. I understand changes in menus, however omitting parts of meals or straight up changing entire dishes without informing customers is entirely dishonest and a terrible business tactic. Positives? The interior is nice and the rest of the meal was pretty good, even if it took 45 minutes between dishes to get them. I probably won't go back.

Keren Cafe & Restaurant is a popular spot for both locals and expats, offering East African cuisine from morning until night. The menu showcases traditional Eritrean dishes with a focus on breakfast items that reflect the country's history of Italian influence, including pasta-centric options. The restaurant's cozy and inviting atmosphere adds to the experience, with standout dishes like tsebhi dorho, a spicy chicken stew served with injera.
Great place for authentic food, everything super tasty and fresh. We got the combo plate for 2 people but couldn’t finish it all, great value for money. Atmosphere was super welcoming and relaxed and really nice service :)

Keren is located in a high-energy neighborhood full of mom-and-pop shops. They operate a very modest space with great food and warm smiles. The food was good. The beef could have been a bit more tender. The injera was great. Soft and tangy. There is 1 lady taking care of the front of house. She did her best but service was kind of slow. But the taste was amazing,!!!!

Authentic delicious Eritrean / Ethiopian food! Everyone who works here is so sweet and it felt super homey. I loved the food I ordered and would be great to share with a few people. The food is extremely affordable and you could easily go here with a 4+ people without worrying about a long wait. Went here for lunch on a week day and the service was fast. Will definitely be back for dinner with some friends!

Aaaammmmazzzinng. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that scare you. We walked in and had a hard time figuring what we wanted from the menu. Never having this type of cuisine it was overwhelming. I got some tea and the keren special in order to have a nice variety to try. It was a great choice and delicious. My favorite food so far on our DC trip. Lots of patrons here spoke the native language and use this place to meet. Gave it a very special feel to eat among native Eritrean and heard presumably Eritrean music playing. It was out of this world, I thought I was somewhere overseas. Prices were very affordable and staff is super friendly. Highly recommend trying them out. Hiiighly!

Excellent food! This restaurant serves up tasty meals with a traditional sponge bread that is spectacular. We visited during the dinner rush, so we had a bit of a wait. Be prepared for that. This place is good, and it seems word has gotten out. Once inside, there is a super friendly atmosphere. The menu has a lot of options - all of which will be cooked to perfection. My daughter ordered spaghetti from the kids menu, and they whipped up an outstanding pasta dish for her. She loved it. I went with the veg platter, and quickly realized that it contained a nice variety and a whole lot of food. Everything was great. We'll definitely be back!
Emily S — Google review
Probably the best Ethiopian/Eritrean food in DC— as evidenced by the long lines to get a seat here. I usually get the Keren Special with chicken—tasty dorowat with shiro and spinach. If the wait is too long, there is an excellent Salvadorian place across the street called El Tamarindo.

A cute family style Eritrean restaurant near Dupont Circle in Washington DC. Friendly staff and tasty dishes! The dishes and stews were flavorful and fresh. They also offer American style breakfast, but I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and try a new dish here. Vegetarian friendly. If it’s your first time trying Eritrean cuisine, don’t hesitate to ask the staff for recommendations. Plenty of options for meat lovers, vegetarians, and vegans alike.

Bistro
Restaurant
Lapis is an Afghan bistro located in the heart of Adams Morgan, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere with rugs and ornate furnishings. The restaurant serves a variety of Afghan dishes including kebabs, stews, and a large vegetarian menu. The Popal family, who operate the restaurant, have brought vibrant flavors from Afghanistan to this diverse neighborhood.
A foodie friend recommended this spot but we didn’t think we’d get in…it was packed! Luckily we did (the staff was so friendly and accommodating) and the experience was worth the anticipation. The restaurant is much larger than we thought with multiple bars and seating downstairs. We ordered the sample appetizer which gave us the opportunity to try everything. We enjoyed the potato and onion appetizer the most. For my entree I ordered the okra stew which was hearty and flavorful. My boyfriend ordered the grilled steak, lamb and chicken. He loved every bite. We were too stuffed for dessert but would definitely try to coconut rice pudding. Lapis is a 10/10. We would definitely recommend as a must try while visiting Washington, DC.
Lashawnda B — Google review
The food at Lapis is excellent, and I appreciate that the atmosphere is not overly formal. I think it's a great restaurant to bring friends from out of town or for a group dinner. My favorite item on the menu is the shrimp dumplings, the saffron cream sauce is incredible. I also like the lamb shank and eggplant. I've tried almost all of their desserts, and I liked the rose ice cream the best, but the dessert menu is not as memorable as the dinner menu in my opinion. Aside from the food, the service is also attentive and the space is well-designed. I would recommend making a reservation, they have been very busy every time I have gone for dinner.
Anika A — Google review
The food was absolutely delicious, and the desserts were outstanding—definitely a highlight of the meal. However, the service was on the slower side. We were seated in the basement near the bar, which I didn’t enjoy. It was very loud, and it made it hard to have a comfortable conversation. Next time, I’d prefer to sit upstairs if possible. The restaurant gets quite busy, so I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Despite the noise and wait, the flavors were memorable, and I’d return again—just not in the basement seating area.
Aspa K — Google review
Definitely one of the best restaurants I ate at during my trip to DC! The food was up to par with other major city food scenes. Our waiter was awesome, knew the dishes and what to recommend, plus was attentive to my sister's peanut allergy, so he knew what to recommend and what dishes could be modified. I've never had Afghan food and it was delicious and I would go again! The dumplings are a must order and the pumpkin from the vegetable sides was one of my favorite things we ordered and I didn't expect it to be such a favorite of mine! The menu is made to be more of a shared type of experience (which was better because you could try everything). 5/5 in my book and makes sense how they have a Michelin award!! We walked in right at around 5 pm and got a 2 person table easily, but as the evening went on more and more people came and by 7 a resy would definitely be needed!
Georgia G — Google review
I don’t understand the hype, I guess. Food was okay. Appetizers are definitely better than entrees on offer. The palow was completely unimpressive (especially given the price jump if including lamb), and the kofta rivaled IKEA meatballs in terms of taste and amount of spice used. I shouldn’t be looking forward to eating a potato chunk when there is highlighted piece meat on my plate :( Service was good, if extremely sparse. Should you be sitting downstairs, you’ll likely see your waiter once every 15 minutes - that’s how long it will take between sitting and ordering, ordering and appetizers, appetizers and entrees. 20% service charge is included no matter group size. Mezcal cocktail was fine. Bartender was polite and prompt. Atmosphere was loud and fun. Basement and main floor are very different.
C — Google review
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. However, the service was just average. Maybe because they already charge a 20% service fee, the staff only came to our table about three times from when we sat down until we left.
Skylar K — Google review
Such a beautiful and cozy place! The décor is lovely and the atmosphere feels so warm. The food was amazing. We had Mantu, Bolani, rice pilaf, and Sharbat, and everything was delicious. The staff were super friendly and even offered us ice cream on the house! Loved the whole experience.

The restaurant has gained popularity for its community-focused drag brunches and its inviting rooftop bar. In 2022, Chef Masako Morishita took over the kitchen, bringing her innovative approach to modern comfort food to the menu.
Went here for restaurant week and the entire experience was amazing. The staff were phenomenal, very kind and professional, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere is great. We came here for happy hour and sat at the bar inside - very popular so we had to wait around 10 minutes for a seat but could still order drinks whilst we were waiting. The bar service was really friendly and quick. Tried both Japanese beer and sake at happy hour prices and they were great. The sushi was tasty and fresh but the karaage was a bit too greasy for our taste.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The service was great with spot on recommendations. The shrimp burger was mind blowing. Who knew shrimp could be a burger? These folks, that's who. The mango cocktail, the name I've forgotten, sorry, was so good. A little spicy but just right. We also had the upon carbonara, which again, who knew that was a thing. I got to smash the egg yolk and mix it around in the noodles before eating it. 😋 I can highly recommend eating here if you're in the area!

Really unbelievable DC gem. Gorgeous restaurant set up inside and really wonderful rooftop with first-come-first-served bar seating. I cannot say enough about how incredible the food is here. Very accommodating to dietary needs, like vegetarian and gluten free, without feeling like there is even a tiny bit of diminished quality or value. Kind, thoughtful, and helpful staff, too. Might be one of my all time favorite restaurants.

We went to Perry’s to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday with family. The atmosphere was modern and clean. The food was delicious no doubt about it. Out of everything we ordered what really stood out to me was the fried rice (a must get) and the sushi. The service was friendly but we were waiting a while to order entrees and get the check during a busy time.

I wanted to try the Japanese breakfast by James Beard Award-winning Chef Masako Morishita. I also wanted to introduce my family to a good Japanese breakfast since I am Japanese. I personally enjoyed Nikujaga, which is a popular Japanese beef stew for children. Vegetable Agedashi was well-seasoned. I could tell they used fresh ingredients. The fish (Trout) was meaty, and I was surprised that its color was pink. Everything is typical of family meals. It's very Japanese, but it is flavorful. The waitress was very friendly. Why are the ratings 4 stars instead of 5 stars? It was because of Resy. I had an issue canceling the booking before.

The Market Lunch is a bustling counter-serve eatery located in Eastern Market, Capitol Hill. It has been a local institution for over 40 years, drawing crowds with its hearty American breakfasts and satisfying lunch classics like fried chicken sandwiches and hamburgers. The owner, Tommy Glasgow, has deep roots in the market and serves up delicious seafood platters alongside breakfast staples like blueberry pancakes and creamy grits.
I love The Market Lunch! I’ve been coming here since 2016. My go to meal is the pancakes and a side piece of whiting. I use to go multiple times throughout the week and ended up building a rapport with the staff. They’re so sweet! I didn’t go for almost 3 years and upon me returning they still recognized me. The owner is super nice too, he pops in every now and again. I did try something different today, the avocado sandwich. I wasn’t a fan! It was very dry. It was a thin layer of avocado spread, one fried egg, two slices of tomatoes and spinach. I’m sure someone may like it, it’s just not for me. It lacked flavor and I’m glad I ordered the mix drink because I was very parched while eating the sandwich. I won’t get it again. I’ll stick to what I know. Oh, the crab cake is good too!

I was actually excited for the buckwheat blue berry pancakes. Am a big pancake fan, I don’t do cheat meals and usually stick to eating at home. So I do have high standards. These were okay. They were fine. Not bad but I have had better ones. So much better.

I ❤️ this place! When I have guests visit DC, this is where I take them before a day of sightseeing. This time, I had buck wheat blue berry pancakes. Which sounds simple, but they're exceptional! Buy so is their crab cake Benedict and chicken and waffles. It's hard to go wrong here. Check the blackboard for daily specials. Be warned on weekends, the line can be really long. I suggest going early. They open at 8AM, I think. Also, the only seating is a communal table or the picnic tables outside. Then go walk it off and enjoy the rest of Eastern Market.

A friend and I were so excited to come here for the pancakes. I had them before, a few months prior, and had been raving about them ever since. We both traveled over half an hour just to get them and were beyond disappointed after waiting in line to be told that they had run out of pancake mix and did not feel like making any more. This was 20 minutes before breakfast ended. After leaving the line dejected, we found out from the people next to us that not only had they successfully ordered pancakes, but they had ordered after us. I was looking forward to going here all week, and this experience has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I’m unsure if I will ever return.

Eclectic restaurant
St. Anselm is a popular steakhouse located in Washington, DC, known for its warm hunting-lodge atmosphere and dedication to quality and flavor. The restaurant offers a menu that highlights prime cuts of beef, lamb, pork, and more, all grilled over hardwood to perfection. In addition to its specialty steaks, St. Anselm also serves classic sides like creamy spinach and mashed potatoes along with unique bites such as chicken liver mousse with house-made jelly.
Amazing place, took around 10-15 minutes to get seated since it was quite busy. Our waiter was lovely, great guy. I ordered the buttermilk biscuits and they were great, they were nice and soft and warm on the inside, they came with a cream spread which tasted amazing, it was my first time trying American biscuits as well. For my main I ordered the NY Strip and steak fries and they were also really good. I do have to say though, the fries were a bit too seasoned for my liking, still great but a bit much. On the whole, 10/10 restaurant would 100% recommend if you are in the area

Meca was AMAZING! first time checking out this restaurant, but definitely not my last. Next time I fly into town, I will be back to try all of the other amazing things that were recommended. Service was topped to food was amazing. The atmosphere was even better.

We went for happy hour and had a great experience. Try the blue crab deviled eggs & the biscuits with pimento cheese are not to be missed! Really affordable prices & top notch service. We’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing experience at St. Anselm! The steak was incredible perfectly cooked to the ideal temperature, juicy and full of flavor. The service was excellent, and the staff made us feel truly welcome. The atmosphere was cozy yet upscale, perfect for a memorable night out. Also, shoutout to the huge wine list such a great selection that pairs beautifully with the food. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in D.C. and love quality steaks and a well-curated dining experience!

Came for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Drinks were nice but took forever to arrive (bar was backed up per our server who apologized for the delay). Biscuits were amazing and an absolutely must here. The food (ribeye & butcher's steak), while good, took forever to arrive. One of my sides (creamed spinach) came well after my steak arrived. Some items were comped due to the delay. Overall, we enjoyed dinner and would come back.
Chantel L — Google review
Southern charm in food and decor. Delicious biscuits with pimiento spread/jam, chicken, and wagyu steak. Sides were not great: spinach too salty and fried okra was very soft. The server did comp these things. They also have cheer wine!

It was a wonderful birthday dinner, and I am glad I chose the restaurant. Previous reviews are absolutely correct in saying that they cook seafood very well here even though it is known as a steak restaurant. I had a reservation for two and was seated promptly. Food was really good; between my son and I we had the biscuits, carrots, ribeye and whole dorade fish. The ribeye and the fish were cooked to perfection. We finished off with a slice of ice cream cake.

Absolutely delicious! We had a fantastic night with amazing food. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for a great steakhouse that isn’t necessarily a white tablecloths/collared shirt kind of place. I was initially skeptical of this place, going off of photos I saw of the interior, but it’s truly a warm and inviting atmosphere in person. The croquette appetizer was an absolute hit! Steaks were amazing, and we got a couple sides to share that were just as good. The crispy fingerling potatoes were to die for!

Established in 1944, Florida Avenue Grill is a historic diner in Columbia Heights, known as the oldest soul food restaurant globally. Locals love its generous portions of Southern comfort food classics such as pan-fried chicken, Cajun fried catfish, and barbecue pork spareribs with a tangy sauce. The diner also offers an all-day breakfast featuring French toast, buttermilk biscuits, and hot cakes.
Went in and was greeted by a beautiful sister and to top it off, her hospitality was great. Everyone was very kind and happy to serve me and the other customers inside. The food? 10/10, fried catfish, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and a store brewed batch of sweet tea. Amazing, please support them

A true DC Classic!— one of those places that just feels like home. The new ownership has done an amazing job keeping the soul of the Grill alive while refreshing things in all the right ways. The new and improved menu is a perfect balance of classic comfort food and fresh updates — every dish is full of flavor and made with care. It’s great to see this historic spot thriving and continuing to represent the heart of the city.

I’ve been coming here for years and the service has always been questionable, but on this occasion the menu did not reflect accurate pricing or combo options. In addition to no having correct menu options on ALL THE MENUS IN THE RESTAURANT, the staff was unable and unwilling to honor the pricing reflected on the menu. It’s unprofessional and unfortunate. They claim to be the oldest soul food restaurant in the country, and the menus are clearly printed on someone’s personal printer at home - but they decide to pass out inaccurate menus. To add insult to injury - they know people come here for breakfast/brunch on the weekends and the host was at the door telling people that they’d have to wait at least 45 minutes for food in a restaurant with 7 patrons in it because they only scheduled one person to cook. This will be the last time I spend money at this establishment. I did love bringing people from out of town here, but the unprofessional nature of the staff and the restaurant in general has moved Florida Ave grill to the list of places to avoid.

My dinner here had more flair than I expected! Tasty fried chicken and huge perfect plaintains. The stir-fried cabbage could have been spicier but it was a clever recipe. Overall this chef is going places and I believe this restaurant can make it another 80 years. Our meals took some time so don't be in a rush. Glad I went and I will be back sometime to check out their breakfast.

I had the pleasure of visiting Florida Avenue Grill during Howard’s Homecoming this past weekend, and I have to say — this place is truly stepping into a new era while still honoring its roots. From the moment my friends and I walked in, the atmosphere felt electric yet familiar — that perfect mix of D.C. soul and southern comfort. The updates under the new ownership are noticeable but tasteful — everything feels refreshed without losing the Grill’s historic charm. The food has leveled up in a big way. My meal came out hot, seasoned just right, and full of flavor. You can tell there’s been real attention put into the menu and ingredients — the kind of quality that reminds you why this spot has been a local institution for decades. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. Everyone I interacted with was warm, welcoming, and clearly proud to be part of the Grill’s story. It felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like being a guest at a family gathering. Florida Avenue Grill has always been a D.C. staple, but it’s great to see it thriving again with new energy, better food, and the same heart that’s made it legendary. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s time to go back — it’s a true DC gem reborn.

We went here as it was recommended by the New York Times. Although we were sceptical in the beginning, we left very satisfied and happy. The ambience and the history of the place is unique and a must see for anyone who is remotely culturally interested. Our breakfast (fried catfish with grits, eggs and cornbread) was so good aswell. We would definitely go again!

Been coming here since college, and as a lover of all things breakfast, the Grill has been a go-to staple for me for almost 20 years. Food is always amazing and made fresh, atmosphere is neighborhood friendly, and the historical factor as one of DC's longest standing soul food institutions makes this a perfect place for anyone wanting a good meal and good vibes. Looking forward to another 20 years and beyond.

District Doughnut is a charming bakery known for its wide variety of classic and unique gourmet yeast donuts. They offer both yeast and cake donuts, with their creme brulee being particularly popular. Customers love the seasonal flavors that keep things interesting, and they now offer sufganyiot outside of Chanukah. However, some have noted that the service can be slow and flavors may sell out throughout the day.
If you're a donut aficionado or fan of the tasty treat District Donuts is a must stop. Their staple brown butter donut is very tasty and a terrific take on the traditional donut style. However if you prefer the sweeter side of things as I do their creme brulee donut is out of this world.
Peter S — Google review
Service was great and the staff was friendly. The donuts themselves are overrated and more like a cake donut, much like you would get at dunkin donuts or the supermarket. I think for the price ($23 for half dozen),you would get a better tasting donut. The store was clean and well maintained from what I could tell. It's not a bad experience, just not my style of donut.
Daniel M — Google review
Donuts were YUM. They were kinda pricey with over $25 for a half dozen but we all loved it. Vanilla bean Crème brûlée was delicious as it was warm and perfectly crusted with the sugar. I did not personally try, but my group loved the Samoa donut. Quick & nice service with window seating.

Ordered these and they were awful. I used to love them and over the years the quality has went down the drain. I usually don’t do reviews but this is the 3rd time I’ve got cold doughy donuts after spending over $40 on less than a dozen donuts don’t waste your money. Do not recommend!!!

On my way to the office, I passed by District Donut and thought it looked like a neat shop. Popped in and saw their offerings of the day. The worker was very friendly and even kept her cool when the customer before me got her undies in a bunch cause they didn't accept apple pay. Kudos to the worker. I decided to try the sweet potato pie donut since it was unique. It looked great, but after the first bite I was sorely disappointed that I spent almost $5 for it. For lack of a better description it was chewy or doughy. It didn't have that nice flaky melt in your mouth goodness that I've had at other shops. The sweet potato filling was okay. Sweeter than I would have liked. Maybe it was an off day, I chose the wrong flavor to try, or their donuts aren't my jam. YMMV

Amazing donuts! Try the seasonal specials like the Key Lime for something totally different than your standard donut shop. And the coffee from Zeke's is strong!

The donuts were lovely! Great place. A tad on the expensive side, and I only say that because I've had donuts with similar flavors for less. I would still highly recommend this place!

We’ve been going here since they first opened and just had Dulce de Leche and Brown Butter doughnuts as standard. Love the seasonal flavors to keep things fun and interesting. LOVE that the sufganyiot are now available outside of Chanukah. The only downside is that when we got them in February, they were dry and definitely not as good as when they were a special item. Service is usually slow despite and they sell out of flavors throughout the day. So get there early for best selection.

Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats is a vibrant vegan bakery and cafe offering a variety of delectable treats, including cupcakes, pastries, salads, and sandwiches in a lively and relaxed atmosphere. The bakery creates an assortment of vegan cakes suitable for various occasions, from birthday celebrations to everyday indulgences.
We stopped by Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats in the morning, and while many of the cookies were already sold out, we were lucky enough to snag a Classic Oatmeal Cookie and a Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookie. Both were absolutely delicious! The oatmeal cookie was perfectly chewy, and the peppermint in the sandwich cookie was subtle and not overpowering—just the right balance. My husband isn’t usually a fan of vegan treats, but even he loved his cookie, which says a lot! Parking is definitely limited, but we managed to find a paid street spot right in front of the store. However, if you’d rather skip the hassle of parking, the location is super convenient—it’s right in front of a metro station and bus stop, making public transit an easy and stress-free option. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and the treats were worth every bite.

We were searching for a bakery that offered vegan desserts for a very special book-launch event. Our son just launched a book, "Harmony and Light: 10 Meditations for a Peaceful and Purposeful Life," that has a large focus on health and wellness, so, it was very important to us that the sweets be vegan and taste good! After sampling cupcakes at a few bakeries with vegan options, we decided on Sticky Fingers because of their wide selection of cupcake and cookie flavors and because their cupcakes were a good size (not too large and not too small). We ordered three dozen assorted cupcakes and 20 assorted cookies, and we were very happy in the end becuase our guests loved all the treats! The cupcakes were moist and tasty and the cookies were delicious. All the treats were very attractive. Our guests were pleasantly surprised to learn that everything was vegan and nut-free because everything tasted so good. The service was personalized and polite. The bakery filled our order in one day and everything was ready on schedule and in time for our event. We would recommend Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats to others seeking tasty vegan, nut-free sweets, and we will certainly order from this bakery again.

I enjoyed what I got from sticky fingers. I love the rotating menus, making it exciting to come back and see what they have. I the inside is very small so it's definitely a takeout spot. Do not go here. Stale baked goods and worse customer service. I was a regular customer for almost 10 years and due to my last experience I will never return and will no longer recommend this bakery. I ordered a cake for pick up and purchased cupcakes in store and they were very stale. I picked up the cake on Sunday, I called the bakery the next morning to get a refund and I was told the manager would call me back. I received no call back, so I left a voicemail later in the day. Still no call back so I left feedback via email the following day. Still no response. I called the bakery again on Thursday and was told I would get a call back before noon. I received a call back from the store owner, Doron, at 1:30 that day and was on the phone for 10 minutes because I was being questioned if I knew how vegan cakes were supposed to taste and that the cake was fresh. She asked for photos, I texted her photos. She still questioned me about how I served the cake to imply that it was my fault the cake and cupcakes were stale. She asked me to bring the cake in for a refund. I did, and was told by the manager Mel that the refund would be issued once Doron came in at 1pm. I even forwarded my receipt to Mel because they could not find my transaction. I texted the owner to let her know when I was coming in and when I dropped off the cake and received no response. Guess what? Still no refund. The name sticky fingers is fitting: they stole my money and refuse to give me a refund. Do not go here, they want to ignore customers to avoid confronting the fact they are selling old desserts. Edit: After emailing the bakery again and sending another text to Doron I finally got a response. She argued with me through text stating that she issued a store credit that Friday, but sent me a screenshot showing that the email was sent the following Monday to the incorrect email address. Then stated she never agreed to refunding me. I told her that I had evidence proving the opposite. Then she said she would issue the refund once I removed this review which I declined to do. She eventually did issue the refund. Between calls, emails, and texts, I contacted the bakery 14 times and 9 days later the refund was issued. I apologize for the long review but I felt a duty to warn others about this place.
Tatiana C — Google review
Had the chance to check out Sticky Fingers recently, so here’s the scoop! First off, the spot was super easy to find, but parking? Yeah, a bit of a struggle. The moment I walked in, though, the smell hit me—so good! I decided to try the s’mores cookie, and while it tasted great, it was a little harder than I’d like. Still, the vibe of the place was cool enough to make me want to come back and try more. Oh, and their business card? It’s literally a cookie. Genius.
Salomon F — Google review
I'm on vacation and I had heard about this place years ago and wanted to try as I enjoy supporting good vegan establishments. Apparently, the reviews are mostly old and not to be trusted, and unfortunately Sticky fingers does not really post updates on social media anymore so there is no way to know about daily menu items or any other changes. We took a 30 min. train to get here only to leave with nothing because the employee could not answer even the most basic questions. The only answer for all my questions was "I don't know". I was quite put off. And just so people know, there is no breakfast nor are there donuts on weekends in this location, as I had read in the reviews. Maybe they had/have another location, but the employee didn't know. Like I said, most reviews are months old and apparently a lot has changed. Also, the answers from what I assume is the manager to some of the less favorable reviews are appalling. Customer service is definitely not a priority here.

Primrose is a charming French bistro and wine bar located in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington DC. The establishment, which has been serving patrons since 2017, offers a Parisian ambiance with its open windows, spacious interior, and beautiful bar adorned with feather-draped chandeliers. It has become a popular gathering place for an eclectic crowd of patrons seeking an exceptional dining experience.
This is easily one of our favorite local spots. The service is always excellent, with attentive management that makes you feel at home. The food is very good, the staff are so friendly, but it’s the ambience you go for. The restaurant is adorable. It’s not quite downtown prices but still feels slightly overpriced. $17 for one waffle…

REFUSAL to make any SUBSTITUTIONS OR ACCOMMODATIONS for FOOD ALLERGIES I went here for brunch and couldn’t eat a single thing on the menu, everything had dairy in some form: cheese, eggs, milk, butter. When I asked what I could eat, the waitress, Deborah G., stood at the far end of our long table and loudly announced that the only option was mushrooms. She didn’t come over to speak with me directly, instead yelling across the table and making the situation unnecessarily embarrassing. She eventually told me to “just order sides,” so I ended up with a side salad that was literally a plate of leaves with oil and a bowl of plain potatoes. That cost me $19 before tax, a 5% service charge, and tip. If you have any dietary restrictions, don’t expect empathy, flexibility, or basic courtesy here.

Primrose is truly a neighborhood gem in Brookland. The vegetarian options are outstanding—they really know how to make veggies shine. The kids menu is thoughtful and makes dining out as a family so easy. And the wine list? Impeccable. We’ve never had a bad pick. It continues to be our go-to spot, and we feel lucky to have such a special place right in the neighborhood.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Sebastian, whose hospitality was outstanding!! Dinner was fantastic. We were lucky enough to try their smash burger even though it wasn’t on the seasonal menu, and the kitchen surprised us with a few extra treats as well. The vibe in the greenhouse patio was beautifully relaxed - exactly what we were looking for

Great atmosphere, food and service were fine. They're doing a $55 "Taste of Primrose" menu now that's three courses. I got the ricotta toast, steak, and cornbread. They were all okay, not nothing I would really want to order again. I also did the wine pairing, which I don't think I would do again. They charge a service fee separate from the tip, so the meal ended up being more than anticipated from looking at the menu online (edited for accuracy).

We celebrated our anniversary in this welcoming restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and the restaurant had a neighborhood vibe but big city menu. We enjoyed a delicious dinner of French onion soup with a fantastic crust and no sogginess, steak and halibut were cooked just right. They also made sure to accommodate my allergies. Dessert was yummy to finish out the meal. Plus they offer a nice variety of tasty wines. Highly recommended and it was so relaxing.

New American restaurant
Fine dining restaurant
Gravitas, a restaurant located in Washington D.C., embodies dignity and seriousness, as suggested by its name. Chef Matt Baker leads the kitchen in creating New American tasting menus with locally sourced ingredients, particularly highlighting the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The industrial-chic venue, once a tomato cannery in Ivy City, offers a minimalist yet modern space with exposed brick.
First let me start with the ambience, walking in you get a very warm homely feeling, staff is generous and greeting with smiles, the open kitchen brings comfort. The drinks are just amazingly mixed to perfection and strong! The menu items are explained eloquently and with precise detail of the combinations. When the 1st course came out it was a display of art, then the taste comes and its like fireworks go off in your mouth as the different flavors cross your palette perfectly! The main dish (Wagyu) was tender and paired well with its sidekicks! The 3rd course (Pasta) was lemony fresh and had the perfect texture, by this time i was full but the 4th course (a Strawberry Dessert ) was just amazing to the point where i still indulged and cleaned the plate! You leave this place thinking it was more of an experience more so than a dinner outing! The rooftop for a nightcap was breathtaking and romantic! Definitely will be returning over and over again! Gravitas is seriously enjoyable!

I went here for restaurant week and was not disappointed, despite the typical drop in service and quality. Everything was amazing, especially the desserts! I also love the atmosphere in here. The earthy, industrial vibes were fantastic. I don’t remember everything we ordered and the most memorable part of the meal was how expansive the offerings were. Everything from the bread, to the sashimi, the chicken, and the dessert, were unbelievable. The menu will certainly change by the time you try them, but you definitely should. I can’t wait to go back!

Phenomenal experience - we did the 6 course tasting with the paired wine!!! Our server and sommelier were very knowledgeable and catered towards our taste too! We had a complimentary glass of champagne with our amuse bouche!
Baljit S — Google review
We opted for Gravitas for our Anniversary dinner and it was a lovely experience. Obtaining a reservation went smoothly and our table was ready at our reservation time. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled. It is a bit difficult to find the entrance, but once inside, the decor is stylish, modern, and on the casual side of fine dining. We chose the 4 course dining experience and it was phenomenal. It was nice that there was a bit of choice (and we spread out our choices so that we could taste everything). My personal highlights included: Yellowfin Tuna Sashimi, Spring Vegetable Salad, Maryland Crab Spaghetti “Limone”, and the Sourdough Crusted Lamb Loin My only "complaint" is that the portions were on the large side, so even with only the 4 course, it was quite difficult to find room for all of the delicious food. I appreciated the ambiance. There was good, natural light. Fun pop music at a volume that still encouraged conversation, and a restroom at ground level. I dropped a star for atmosphere because the tables were slightly crowded together and it would have been nice to have more than one bathroom at the ground level- there's not a comfortable spot to wait for the restroom to open up. The beverages were interesting with a good heavy pour. This is a lovely special occasion restaurant.

First of all. The atmosphere is amazing! Very well moderated interior design. The drink was great, our service was excellent and absolutely amazing. But we had to be honest, we were slightly disappointed with the food quality. They were not bad, but also not great. I would say they were not well balanced between the spices. We did the 4- courses tasting menu. the tuna sashimi was a bit overly soaked in the sauce, a bit too salty too. The pasta was super sour, it hit really hard and you can barely taste anything else. The Lamb loins were over spiced with the rosemary, if you enjoyed very much then it would be great, if not that’ll be another case. The foam with veggies dish was my top recommendation. Overall, the experience was good, but I was not impressed by the food.

We loved Gravitas. The food was delicious, from the bread to dessert. Dishes were plated beautifully and our waiters explained each dish to us. Great creativity translated to delicious food. The sear on the Salmon was perfect. *Recommendation to add some sign to identify the location*

Had a wonderful anniversary dinner there. Food was super tasty, the team was just lovely, and the chef was super kind and took time to ask for feedback. Definitely worth a trip to visit for an elevated everyday meal or a special occasion.
Carey Z — Google review
Moderately disappointed by the food. Kitchen felt dysfunctional because every dish came out lukewarm as if they had been sitting for a good 20 minutes before being served. It’s especially bad for the foie gras and the pasta because without the right temperature they just taste like greasy mess. And the whole meal took 3 hours which averaged out to 25 min wait time per dish. With just 3-4 tables of guests the entire night, the restaurant wasn’t even busy. The palate cleanser took 30 minutes to serve, and it was just one scoop of sorbet. Surely it doesn’t take that long to scoop the sorbet? The branzino was decent. Skin was perfectly crispy and the rice stuffed squash was delicious. I was surprised by how bad the strawberry dessert turned out. The super sour lemon jelly ruined it for me. And the corn bread was very bland and didn’t work.

I got delivery from little cocos and the food came cold but that isn’t their fault. If it’s hot it would have been fantastic. This style of pizza is not my preference but it was delicious for what it was. You get every flavor you want and the crust held up perfect. The crust was phenomenal. The pepperoni pizza fell flat for me because I like a ton of flavor and spice, but I am certain everyone else will love it. The mt Vesuvius pizza was better for me. I could taste the japaeno, honey, and the cheese. I think the meatballs would have been good if they were hot. The sauce was bland and watery vs full of flavor and they lacked seasoning, but that doesn’t mean bad. It only means it isn’t my preference. They give you a ton of Parmesan and sauce which is great. If I ordered again I’d put chili flakes, oregano, and a bit of garlic powder and basil into the sauce before eating it. Overall little coco is a great little pizza shop. Absolutely worth checking out.

I really wanted to love this place because it has a chill vibe and the service was great. Our server was so kind and took great care of us. However, all my restaurant my reviews are only based on food and I rate this place is just good or ok. When I saw cacio e pepe on the menu, I knew I had to try it. I have it everywhere I see it on the menu. Unfortunately, this cacio e pepe was a salt bomb. With cacio e pepe, no extra salt is needed. It should only be the pecorino cheese, fresh ground pepper, the pasta, and a tad bit of pasta water. I don't know what they added to make it so incredibly salty but it just wasn't great. As for the other dishes my friends had, we were all underwhelmed. We ate it all because we were hungry and it was ok food. I'd be willing to try it again in case this was just a bad day in the kitchen but it will be a while before I'm in that area of DC. FYI, if you want the best cacio e pepe in the entire DMV, you have to try it at Mia's Italian in Old Town Alexandria...trust me.

I had a pretty lovely time overall at little coco’s. It’s a cozy Italian American spot with pretty lights and a warm atmosphere. Service was really wonderful and prompt, our servers were also delightful. We tried the ciabatta tre formaggi which was wonderful and the gem Caesar which was also really fresh and delightful. We tried the between two leaves pizza which I’m honestly not sure I would recommend. Crust was a bit chewy and I didn’t love the flavor profile. I think my friends had better luck with the goat cheese ravioli and the spicy rigatoni alla vodka which were great. Overall would love to go back, especially for brunch and try some of their other offerings.

Little Cocos is a wonderful Italian spot in Petworth. It has an outdoor seating area that's tented (so shaded) and a fully stocked bar inside. We went on a Wednesday evening and had no trouble getting a table. We ordered the calamari, cacio e pepe, and bolognese. The calamari was cooked to PERFECTION. Crispy, tender, chefs kiss 👨‍🍳. Cacio e pepe was also delicious, al dente pasta with extra cheese. It was super creamy. Bolognese had great flavor and sauce. However, the pasta was a little too al dente. We should've mentioned something because I'm sure they would've fixed it for us. The service is 10/10 here.

NICE MEAL BUT THEIR SCAMMING LEFT A BAD TASTE. I will not be returning due to the fact that this restaurant adds a 5% "Service Surcharge" to the bill. In other words all the prices on the bill are 5% more than what is displayed! This is just a scam. I know it is not unheard of in DC but I have begun fighting back by warning others and not returning to such places. For clarification, at the bottom of the receipt it said "We implement a 5% surcharge on all checks to help cover our increased operating costs. This is not a tip." I left a tip of 22%, but they lost my future business.

Fantastic brunch and dinner options. Brunch offers something different than your usual DC brunch spot with unlimited mimosas and Italian takes on brunch classics. Dinner is cozy and delicious. I miss (for obvious reasons…) the upstairs Lucy bar.

Wow delicious apps and dinner. Fried green tomatoes were out of this world, the artichoke bruschetta was also super yummy. For entrees we had the gnocchetti w/ crab and the shrimp risotto. The shrimp risotto was surprisingly spicy, which I liked, but I could see the heat level being too high for some if not most. The only thing we didn't care for was seating on the second floor. There was a big family get together next to us, and about 9 children who screamed the entire time. No fault of the restaurant for this and I was impressed at how our waitress managed that table's chaos, but the acoustics and resulting cacophony from the out of control children was extreme. The ambiance of the downstairs dining room is much nicer imo. I'm looking forward to coming back again!

The restaurant boasts a beautiful dog-friendly environment with an interior dining area adorned with hanging pink flowers and a serene outdoor patio that is both covered and heated, welcoming dogs of all sizes. i think there are lots of delicious options and the drinks here are really amazing, especially the espresso martini! the waitress we had was also very attentive and sweet. allowed us to order 3 instead of 2 gyros it normally comes with without us asking first. if i were to come back, it’d be more so either for brunch or a start/end of my night with a drink and the lamb gyros app (these are VERY good and flavorful!) because it’s on the pricier end for what they’re serving. i put 4 stars for the food because the crab risotto was kinda bland risotto and just had crab on top rather than fully integrating the crab into its flavor. for $31 i was hoping for more. the schnitzel was also good and a solid option. i dont regret getting the food because they were yummy — the price just wasn’t reflecting what it should’ve been in my opinion. the music was loud but it was a nice vibe :)

Excellent 👩‍🍳😘🤌first experience at Residence Cafe & Bar! The drinks were perfectly balanced - the daiquiri and Thai basil. The shareable plates - gyros and fries - were the perfect starters. In fact, they were so good we decided to share an entree. We ordered the crab risotto and it was superior 10/10. We decided to keep the party going, so we ordered the passion fruit cheesecake… and oh was it a party alright. DELICIOUS. To top it all off, the service was excellent and the environment was so cute. Highly recommend checking out Residents Cafe & Bar if you are in the area!

Residents has done the impossible! For years my wife has tried to introduce various octopus based dishes and I’ve never been into it, until now. The charred octopus was delightful; perfectly cooked and thoughtfully executed with the chermoula, croquettes and aioli. 10/10. The mini gyros were also delicious and were equally well executed Based on those two dishes I think it’s safe to assume everything on the menu is a hitter. Definitely one of the highlights from our recent trip and will certainly not be forgotten

I had such a fantastic experience at Residents Bar & Café! The vibe and ambiance are exactly what I love — cozy, stylish, and welcoming, with a lively energy that makes you want to linger. The staff were attentive, and friendly. I started with the Watermelon & Heirloom Tomato salad with Persian cucumber, feta, mint, and za’atar. This was my first time trying watermelon paired with tomatoes, and it completely exceeded expectations — refreshing, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. Then came the Charred Octopus, and wow. With red chermoula, potato croquettes, lemon aioli, pickled cherry tomatoes, Aleppo pepper, and cilantro, every bite was bursting with flavor. It was so memorable that I’ve actually been recreating it at home every week — though nothing compares to how well it’s done here. Between the food, drinks, service, and overall atmosphere, it was a memorable experience and I'm glad I can finally check it off my bucket list and add it my list of "I will be back".

Love coming to Residents! The food and drinks are fantastic. The service is great and the vibes are unmatched. Highly recommend coming during brunch (and don't forget an espresso martini.) The menu rotates seasonally (so does the decor!) but they always keep a few fan favorites on the menu year round. It's always a great time here!

Chic Breakfast Spot With a Healthy Kick 🍉🥑 The watermelon & heirloom tomato salad was the standout — fresh, bright, and so addictive I’d order it again on its own. The Turkish eggs were creamy (a little spicy🥵 , so ask for less chili if you prefer mild), and the salmon toast with avocado and eggs was filling and flavorful. Pair it all with their Immune fresh-squeezed juice and great coffee, and you’ve got the perfect breakfast combo in DC.

Had a very cute vibe-y Sunday morning brunch here with my family. We sat outside on the patio and loved all the decorations on the ceiling. Definitely stuffy in the summer though! Most importantly, all the food was delicious! We had the avocado toast, merguez and sweet potato hash, salmon toast, and quinoa bowl. And the bacon?! Wow, delicious. I’d love to come back and try more of the menu! Everything sounded great!

Residents had consistently remained one of my favorite spots in DC—for cocktails, dinner, and brunch. Their espresso martini is one of the best in the city. The atmosphere, service, and menu never disappoint—and I have fond memories celebrating birthdays, hosting family, etc on the patio—through all the seasonal decorations! Can’t wait to return :)

Piccolina da Centrolina is a fresh and contemporary Italian osteria located in CityCenterDC's Palmer Alley. It is the latest project by Chef Amy Brandwein, offering an all-day menu featuring wood-fired dishes that complement the regional cuisine served at its upscale companion, Centrolina.
3 of us went here one evening around 7:30pm for a hankering of chocolate and coffee. We walked in and was welcomed with the beautiful pink esthetic. The food on the tables for other guests looked amazing, including the pizza. We ordered 3 coffees, my favorite bring the cortado. We also had a canolli made fresh with the flavors we desired. I had a warm chocolate chip cookie that was perfectly cooked with a heavy and delicious amount of chocolate chips. Sooooo Good!! We will be back the next time we are visiting DC.

Delicious little Italian eatery in the well known Palmer Alley. We were there for the signature Italian pastries, which were all great! Really well made and delicious. We were there with the Underground Donut Tour DC, and our guide had eaten there at other times and said everything they had was great.

Piccolina da Centrolina is a charming spot that feels like a slice of Europe tucked away in the city. The outdoor seating creates a cozy, relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for brunch or lunch. We tried the salmon skewers and a panini, both of which were fresh and flavorful. The salad that came with the panini was crisp and colorful, adding to the meal’s appeal. A highlight here is the cannoli bar—where they freshly fill the shells upon ordering—making for the perfect sweet ending. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared, and the casual yet sophisticated vibe made it a lovely place to spend a slow afternoon. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!

HalfSmoke is a trendy spot in Washington, DC where you can customize your own sausage dishes, including the famous DC-style half-smokes, and enjoy craft cocktails. Located at 651 Florida Ave NW in the historical black neighborhood of Shaw, it's a popular hangout for pre-game drinks before hitting the clubs or for indulging in midday lunches and bottomless brunches.
Need a brunch place with music to vibe out to? Well you’ve found the DC’s hidden gem, HalfSmoke. Service is friendly, welcoming , honest, and informative. Annyce gave us recommendations, that fit well with our preferences, giving us an awesome experience. We even had an above and beyond chef Antonio, who ensured our temp preferences were spot on! It’s close to Washington Hilton Hotel, making it an easy choice. We’ll definitely be back!

Very tasty food however the service not the same. It was more just needing to work on organizing themselves and remembering what people ask for and bringing it without having to ask 3 more times. People were friendly let me not leave that out. We had a reservation but it was not busy when we were there. The restaurant itself is very cute with the setup and quotes. The dishes have some cute names as well. Mimosas are bottomless for 90 minutes, so drink up. Variety of flavors to choose from as well. Definitely recommend it, and it is also only a short walk from Howard University campus. Give them a try.

We came out the day before Mother’s Day 2025. Thankfully, the graduation crowd was gone and we were seated within five minutes. Our server was lovely and helped us decide what to get as an appetizer and entree! I got the flight and let me say it was DELICIOUS!! My favorite was Girls Trip but each of them were on point! I loved the homemade hummus and the ‘strips’ that come with it. All of the food was good and the creative halfsmokes on the menu should leave you finding one to devour!! If you plan to come at the height of the brunch rush, try getting a resy or pack your patience. Paid parking is convenient next door.

I got the white sangria. Hated it. Had all my favorite flavors but something about it was too much. My fiance called it a liquid skittle drink but I think a liquid skittle drink would taste better. I had the netflix and chill with sausage and it was SO Salty. I liked the cheese but the dish is naturally high in sodium, so adding the excessive amount of salt sent me over. I don't mind salt, but even my fiance said it was too Salty. They gave him the last 2 ribs, which he said were really good. They gave him the please say the baby dish which my fiance enjoyed. I tried it and it was alright for a jambalaya dish. Either my taste buds were off tonight or I really didn't enjoy it. My fiance offered me other options but I refused to try them due to the 2 dishes and drink I had. I was turned off by the third time. The service was good. It was quick. We came over right after a show at the Howard and they ran out of my original options so I settled with the Mac and cheese dish. I personally wouldn't recommend this restaurant for it's food. The vibe is nice and so is the music so meeting with some friends and chat. I'm sure my timing and exposure was just bad timing, but I'm not interested in giving them another try another day at a different time.

Wanted to have what was rated as a best half smoke in DC. Not at all disappointed. Came out loaded and delicious. The Cajun crab fries are so good with great chunks of crab. Great custom cocktails and our waitress was amazing! Would come back for certain when back in DC.

Great vibes, prime location, and solid bottomless drinks make HalfSmoke a good pick for a fun brunch outing. The food is just okay—not bad, but not the star. Come for the atmosphere and drinks, not a culinary masterpiece.

Came here for brunch- liked that the interior was brightly lit and they had board games, though the armchairs looked super worn and bathrooms were kinda dingy. We got the bottomless mimosa deal- didn't like how you had to choose between sticking to either sangrias or mimosas. Peach mimosa was pretty good, pineapple mimosa wasn't great. Service was alright, sometimes our carafe came out filled below the usual mark, (surprised server didn't ask the bar to fill it up). We ordered pinky and the brain and Cinnamon Crunch French toast but the food looked better than it tasted, disappointingly- was very bland and a little dry. Probably wouldn't come back.
Kitty W — Google review
I’d like to start off by saying this is a very interesting place. Came here for brunch with some friends and we had reservations. Upon walking into the restaurant we had to wait about 10 minutes before someone from the bar even came up to us to acknowledge that we had just walked in and needed to be seated. We had bottomless mimosas which I truly enjoyed, but while waiting on our food to arrive there was a homeless man that walked into the establishment. He immediately began taking the cutlery and sauces off the table and putting it into a shopping cart that he had with him. He then went to try and grab the computer device in the front of the restaurant that was used to check in guests who made reservations. At this point my table notified the workers in the restaurant as they had no idea this was even going on. It took about 15 minutes for one of the workers to get the man out of the restaurant. By the time our food arrived after that experience the food was cold. Even though it was cold, I did enjoy my red velvet funnel cake and chicken. The mac & cheese on the other hand was tasteless. The food here is decent, but the service and experience is honestly not worth it. This is more of a takeout restaurant not a dine in as the experience is not enjoyable. I would recommend this establishment keep someone up at the front to quickly check people in and for the safety of everyone.

Café Riggs is a sophisticated restaurant located in the charming Riggs Hotel, offering New American cuisine in an elegant setting. The café is known for its gorgeous ambiance, locally sourced food, and unique space. It has received high praise for its brunch and sophisticated decor, making it an ideal spot for an intimate dinner. The menu features French, American, and European cuisine with standout dishes like perfectly executed halibut and a caviar and potato chips appetizer.
We take a breakfast in this Michelin-starred café Riggs in Washington for breakfast, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and very professional. From the moment we walked in, we felt well taken care of. The atmosphere is elegant yet cozy, making it a great spot to start the day. While the prices are definitely on the higher end, the presentation and ambiance help justify the cost to some extent. As for the food, it was good—nothing groundbreaking, but solid and well-prepared. The pastries were fresh, the coffee was excellent, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. If you’re looking for a refined breakfast experience in D.C. with top-tier service, this café is definitely worth considering.

Café Riggs – Beautiful Place, But a Bit of a Hiccup Café Riggs is easily one of the most beautiful spots in D.C.—full of history, charm, and style. From the moment you walk in, you feel it. The building is stunning, the layout unique, the ceilings high, and the atmosphere warm and classy. It truly feels like you’re stepping into something special. I went with a few friends for brunch, and most of the experience was top notch. The staff was great, especially our server—super accommodating. We asked for a caviar service, even though it wasn’t on the menu, and to our surprise, the manager made it happen. He was kind and professional throughout. The food was excellent—seafood, caviar, champagne—all fresh and delicious. It really felt like a five-star experience… almost. The only real letdown was how the food came out. We ordered a seafood tower, caviar, a few breakfast items, croissants, sausages (both pork and chicken), and a strip steak. But after nearly two hours at the table, the croissants, sausages, and steak still hadn’t arrived. No updates, no check-ins—just silence. When we finally said we had to go, they rushed to the kitchen, made everything quickly, and packed it to-go. They explained they were waiting for us to finish eating before bringing the rest out, but honestly, that felt like an excuse. Especially when you look at the receipt—it’s clear those items (like the croissant and sausages) were part of our main order, not something we added later. Croissants and sausage are basic brunch starters—they should’ve come out early, especially with the caviar. And if there was going to be a delay, they could’ve at least checked in or offered to remove them from the bill. We spent over $1,000 on brunch (with tax and tip), so we expected a bit more care in the details. So yes—the place is beautiful, the food is great, and the service is friendly. But a mistake like that—especially at this level—left a bit of disappointment at the end. That’s why, instead of five stars, I’m giving three.

Everything about this place is amazing. The high ceilings, the architecture, the lighting, the comfy lounge seating area, the sound and the service and oh my goodness the dessert. This tart was spectacular it is the only thing we ordered because we had already had dinner elsewhere but we plan to come back as the menu looks fantastic.

Had an absolutely wonderful time at Cafe Riggs today. When you walk in, the atmosphere is the first thing you recognize, as it’s stunning. When you sit down, the service is phenomenal. I saw 4 servers, with my main server as Jasmine, and they were all knowledgeable, delightful, and warm. I got the bottomless mimosa cart, avocado toast, and lobster mac. The portions reflected the price, and all tasted great! I now have lunch tomorrow, and am very happy with what I ordered. Cannot wait to bring friends here, and I’m so glad I stopped by!

Beautiful decor with historical charm-Café Riggs has to be the best hotel bar in downtown DC. If you want delicious cocktails crafted for a sophisticated palate, this the place to go to. The servers and bartenders are always friendly and attentive. For brunch, I recommend their champagne cart or bottomless martinis and crème brûlée for dessert.

If you’re in D.C., this café is a must. The interior is dreamy — golden tones, velvet seating, vintage mirrors, and natural light pouring in. I had brunch here and the vibe was effortlessly chic. The coffee was top-notch, and the menu felt elevated without being overwhelming. Try their pastries — they’re flaky perfection. Service was warm and attentive, and I truly appreciated the peaceful energy. 📍The kind of place you want to linger a little longer — whether you’re meeting a friend or just treating yourself.

As a guest staying at The Riggs Hotel, Café Riggs was an absolute lifesaver and a highlight of my stay. If you're looking for a convenient, delicious, and genuinely friendly spot for both breakfast and dinner without ever having to leave the building, look no further. Unbeatable Convenience & Healthy Start: Mornings can be hectic, but the breakfast here made everything easy. I was able to grab a truly healthy and flavorful option—like their fantastic avocado toast or a hearty yogurt parfait with fresh fruit and granola—and get on with my day. It was the perfect alternative to a rushed, sugary pastry and felt like a proper, nourishing start. The coffee was excellent and kept me going for hours. Unexpectedly Great Dinners: I ended up having dinner here on a night I was just too tired to venture out, and I'm so glad I did. The dinner menu is surprisingly robust! The dishes we tried were flavorful and felt thoughtfully prepared, far beyond standard "hotel food." It was clear that care goes into the ingredients and presentation. The Best Part: The Staff: The team at Café Riggs is wonderful. Everyone, from the morning baristas to the evening servers, was incredibly friendly and attentive. They remembered my name after the first visit and always had a genuine smile. It made the experience feel personal and warm, like a neighborhood spot you’ve been going to for years. Incredible Value: For the quality of the food and the level of service, the prices are honestly unbeatable, especially for a hotel restaurant. You get fantastic value for your money. Final Verdict: Café Riggs isn't just a hotel café; it's a real asset to The Riggs Hotel experience. It delivers on all fronts: delicious food, a healthy and convenient menu, kind service, and great prices. I highly recommend it to any guest and will definitely be enjoying meals here on my next stay.

What a beautiful building that is home to Riggs Cafe & Hotel! Has been a favorite for many years, but recent visit (July 2025) left me a bit at a 3 star. It took a very very very long time to get food for 4 people on a Tuesday afternoon! And it wasn’t busy at all! The service was polite, but extremely slow - we had to ask for water 3 times… and when we did get the food, nobody checked on us and it was overcooked (oily); Brussels weren’t crispy and some hot items were room temperature. I was used to excellent level of good and services here, but may not consider going back as the 1st on my mind when visiting DC again.

Ellē is a charming all-day cafe located in Mount Pleasant's Lamont Plaza commercial district. The space offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to enjoy creative breakfast sandwiches in the morning and well-reviewed dinners at night. While they do offer coffee from out-of-town roasters, it's not the main focus of the cafe. During the day, patrons can indulge in delicious sandwiches and pastries, while dinner service showcases quirky dishes with enticing flavor profiles.
I had the blueberry-ginger scone, cappuccino and brisket breakfast sandwich. The food was delightful, and the service was slower than I expected. We waited about 10 minutes for coffees and 30 minutes for the sandwiches. The food was definitely worth the wait, and the staff was sweet and helpful. It’s also in a charming neighborhood that has great people watching.

When Elle opened in 2018, it became an immediate favorite for me and my wife. It wasn't long before our weekend ritual was going to the Mt. Pleasant farmers market, getting biscuits from Elle, and going back to our apartment for a veggie scramble with some (warmed in the oven) biscuits. Years later, they are still our top-tier biscuits in DC. This year, for our latest wedding anniversary dinner (cheers!), we had an absolutely wonderful meal. First: thank you, Shayna, for being a fantastic team member and taking care of us! The whole experience was one giant highlight, but here are some of the greatest hits from their always-creative dinner and drinks teams: -To drink: Amaro Camatti Highball made with mint, bitter orange, Dr. Pepper (yes!), almond, and balsamic. I mean, let's face it, when part of your drink has a Ph.D., you're in good hands. -Pan Roasted Sunchokes with anchovy bagna cauda and horseradish gremolata. Savory depth and funky goodness from the bagna cauda. I will be thinking about this one for a long time. -Smashed Shio Koji Sweet Potato with granny smith apple, chermoula, castelvetrano olives, pistachio butter. Such a perfectly executed balancing act of hearty, herby, and acidic. It was a real party of a dish! -Honey Goat Cheesecake with charred citrus, cashew, and blood orange gelee. I don't think the cheesecake has ever left the Elle menu and for good reason: it is a dream of a dessert. They dress it up differently when the menu changes, and it's always beautifully composed and equally delicious. My wife and I split one this year, but I can absolutely see the case for everyone getting their own (and certainly wouldn't judge you for it.) Happy to say that year after year, we continue to visit Elle and we continue to love what we get. I've added pictures from the dishes I didn't cover here, too, and please know that all of them were lovely: we have never been disappointed by any Elle dish. Simply the best.

On our first ever visit to Washington DC we were fortunate to discover Ellē on the first morning of our week. We returned every day afterwards for Breakfast and sampled their first class fare one evening for Dinner. There is a wonderful, interesting menu, great baristas and a genuine sense of staff being part of a team and enjoying what they do. Servers are terrific. I loved the backstory, that Ellē is the name of the grandmother of one of the owners. Also (the old sign remains outside) the building until Ellē took over housed a renowned bakery & café "Hellers" which ran from 1928 until 2014. Mount Pleasant is a delightful area with many cafés, small shops, restaurants ...independent businesses with a great sense of community Thank you, Team Ellē

Wow so rude. Just left after the oddest interaction ever. I typically come in on the weekends and order a latte and read for a bit. Tonight, I came in to do the same thing and unfortunately the espresso machine was down. I had already sat down after a twenty minute walk and asked, oh I really was hoping for a coffee. But that’s ok, mind if I just sit here and read for a bit? The waiter said well this is a place that sells food so you need to buy something if you want to stay. I’m sorry, but that’s not a very welcoming experience. Not only had I frequented this establishment, but they just didn’t have what I wanted so is it really that much trouble if someone wants to sit a read? The place was half empty and very calm. Obviously I will not be returning. Bad energy!

Whether you're looking for a cozy café with great coffee / pastries, an intimate restaurant serving some of the best New American cooking, or just a place that has some of the friendliest, most inviting staff to ever grace the DC restaurant scene, Elle has you covered. They operate a cute little coffee counter in the day, which includes some of their amazing scones, croissants, and other goodies, as well as outstanding espresso drinks. There isn't a ton of seating in the café section so it ends up being quite crowded, but if you're lucky enough to snag a seat, it's super cozy and the perfect place to read or just hang out. The café area is confined to two mini counters in a small corner next to the front window, so it always gets plenty of natural light and is a great place to people watch. I dropped by on a Sunday morning to grab an americano and their maple pecan scone; the americano was phenomenal, and the scone was such a delightful ode to autumn flavors. It was quite large, super buttery and rich, and packed with maple and pecan flavor without being overly sweet. Come back in the evening and you'll stroll into what feels like a completely different restaurant. The coffee bar is transformed into a standard bar, and the ambient lighting, dark wooden furniture, and brick walls make the space feel incredibly cozy and intimate. Their dinner menu is quite pricey, but it's genuinely worth every penny. My friend promised that Elle had the "best vegetable he's ever tasted," and they absolutely delivered -- the roasted broccoli with sardines and parmesan was delightful. It was super simple, but I appreciated how well it let the natural flavor of each ingredient shine, and each component had plenty of its own flavor, with the parmesan and sardines offering a hit of salt, umami, and sight funkiness. We also got the grilled cucumber which, at first glance, seemed like such an odd menu item. After giving it a try, however, I'm now questioning why we don't always grill our cucumbers -- the cucumber was beautifully charred on the outside, and heat helped to bring out some of the vegetable's natural sweetness to counterbalance the smokiness from the grill. It was served on top of a bed of savory, tangy yogurt and with chopped hazelnuts, which offered a great crunch. I was most impressed by the skate; this fish is a rare find in DC, but they prepared with perfectly. It was super tender, which contrasted beautifully against the crispy, crunchy fried outer shell. The skate was topped with crispy onions and a savory, slightly spicy sauce, as well as swimming in a rich, incredibly umami broth. The skate may have been the single best thing I put in my mouth all year -- I'm going to be devastated when it falls out of season and rotates of the menu, but I'm also super excited to come back and sample Elle's next season of items.

I see it’s popular with neighborhood folks and it seems like a good neighborhood spot. Not sure I will venture out to eat here again because there are better options for the offering. The wait was a bit unreasonable just for a breakfast sandwich (25-30min) and the price for a breakfast sandwich is a bit outrageous ($20 before tax) with no side. There was somewhat of a long line to order but it moved fast. I saw they used Tandem beans, which is one of the best coffee/bakeries in America. However, the latte was overly sweet and tasted little of espresso, and I get 4 shots. The bacon and egg on the sandwich were good but the cheese was mild with little flavor and the biscuit was average—not worth the price. They had several pastry options—the donut and chocolate chip cookie were really good. If I lived nearby I might try again, but not going out of my way.
