Perched atop a hill in Helsinki, Uspenski Cathedral is the epicenter of the Finnish Orthodox faith. Known as the 'Russian Church,' it boasts an ornate exterior with red brick and distinctive onion domes. Inside, visitors are treated to lavish interior decorations that reflect Orthodox Byzantine style influenced by Italian Art Deco. With its thirteen towers and east-facing crosses symbolizing Jesus and the Twelve Apostles, this cathedral stands out as Scandinavia's largest Orthodox church.
A gorgeus architecture of orthodox church! Is a must see place when you are Helsinki , capital of Finland. Words about this place can't describe the beauty of the building. The Uspenski Cathedral is considered to be the largest Orthodox temple in Northern and Western Europe. The cathedral’s size is emphasized by its location on the highest hill of the Katajanokka district. The central cupola of the cathedral is 33 meters high. The cathedral was designed by the Russian church architect Aleksei M. Gornostajev. The Uspenski Cathedral was consecrated on October 25th, 1868. The Uspenski Cathedral is consecrated to the Dormition of the Mother of God (uspenie). The praasniekka church festival (also known as prazdnik or kermis) is held annually on August 15th.

Uspenski Cathedral is one of Helsinki’s most beautiful landmarks. With its red-brick walls, golden domes, and hilltop views over the harbor, it’s stunning inside and out. The interior glows with gilded icons, chandeliers, and rich Orthodox detail — a striking contrast to the minimalist Helsinki Cathedral. Free to visit and just a short walk from the center, it’s a must-see in the city.
Louie F — Google review
It is a pleasure to visit, and it is quite outstanding. There are many tourists. We can go inside but it is a small Orthodox-style church. If you are not particularly interested in churches, tou can still appreciate the exterior and the city view from its terrace.
Tony C — Google review
Uspenski Cathedral is a striking and beautiful landmark that you can’t miss when walking along the harbour. Its impressive red-brick exterior and golden domes stand out against the skyline, and the closer you walk towards it, the more magnificent it becomes. You can also enter the cathedral, which adds to the experience. I visited on a weekday morning, and it was already lively with many tourists. Wandering around the area and taking in the details of the architecture was a lovely way to spend time. During my stay in Helsinki, I found myself noticing the cathedral almost every day, and it left a lasting impression on me. A must-see spot when visiting the city.
Tomoe M — Google review
Truly wonderful architecture! I made sure to add this as a stop on my trip to Helsinki, Finland! The walk to get to the cathedral was easy (I just used the map on my phone). The views of the surrounding areas are great once you climb the stairs! This is definitely worth the trek!
David K — Google review
1 | The largest Orthodox church in both Northern and Western Europe is also the main cathedral of the Helsinki Orthodox Diocese. It is located close to the Helsinki waterfront, and I was personally captivated by its brick-red color. Around 700,000 bricks were used for its construction, brought from the Bomarsund fortress in the Åland Islands. 2 | The church features 13 gilded domes, symbolizing Christ and the twelve apostles. The main dome rises to a height of 33 meters. 3 | You have to climb several steps to reach it, but it’s worth it. Entrance to the church outside of service times costs €5.
Petr N — Google review
Stunning Orthodox cathedral with impressive red-brick architecture and golden domes. The interior is beautiful and peaceful, with rich icons and details. Located on a small hill, it offers nice views over Helsinki and the harbor.
Anwar S — Google review
The architecture is truly astonishing! It has various charms by being viewed from different angles. The location is great and can be accessed by multiple walkways. The interior is beautiful and very well maintained, and you can learn about the history of the cathedral by easily scanning the QR code for the digital guide.

Suomenlinna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an island fortress accessible only by ferry. This historic district is home to around 800 residents and features a shop, hospital, library, and elementary school. The island's significance makes it an attractive area for young people and creatives due to its galleries and inspiring ocean surroundings.
Great little trip from the city. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes. Suomenlinna is a great place to walk around and explore. It has some beautiful views and is filled with a lot of history. They have a couple cafes where you can grab treats/drinks while you wait for the ferry back. Definitely something to add it to your itinerary.
Widnelly C — Google review
If you love history and nature, this is a "must visit" for you. Take a ride on a ferry, ca 15 min from Helsinki and spend a day on this island. I suggest taking your time, the whole day, if you want to explore the island. There are cafes and restaurants, if you get tired or hungry. There is a supermarket, where you can get coffee and warm pastries. There are museums which are defenitely worth visiting. Walk along the shore and enjoy amazing views. Go explore the tunnels for sure, if you dare. Have a picnic if you wish. There are so many things you can do and see. The guide is also available. WCs are everywhere. It is easy to spend the whole day there and swith off the rest of the world.
Julia M — Google review
I had heard great things about Suomenlinna and I wasn’t disappointed! Such an adorable little island. It is filled with history and just lovely to walk around. Such easy access to get to, you don’t want to miss this on your next visit in Helsinki:)
Helena R — Google review
Frequent ferris daily to reach the island. Enjoy the tranquility time travel walk. We arrived there before daybreak, the unmanned visiter information center was open, supplying warmth, wifi, toilets and maps.
Lihao L — Google review
Suomenlinna is an incredible place to explore and soak up Finnish history. The island is full of historic fortifications, museums, and scenic walking paths, with stunning views of the sea and Helsinki’s harbor. It’s peaceful and easy to wander around, with plenty of spots to relax and take photos. Perfect for a day trip, whether you’re interested in history, nature, or just enjoying a unique part of Helsinki. Highly recommended! Also the ferry’s to and from the island are efficient and come very often. Also free with the HSL transport ticket!
Jack F — Google review
Fantastic day out to this set of small Islands, good restaurants and cafes with lots to see. Cost of the ferry €3.20 one way. Free entry into the Islands, bring the kids and be prepared to do a lot of walking the ferry takes 15 minutes, plenty of toilets everywhere.
Alastair M — Google review
Only fragments of the fortress survive, mostly stretches of old stone walls and a few scattered pieces of artillery such as catapult remnants, yet the site is still a great place to wander and enjoy sweeping sea views. It can be extremely windy and cold, even in summer, so bring a sweater or other warm layers. If you like open landscapes mixed with a touch of history, it is well worth a visit.

Helsinki Cathedral, designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, is a grand neoclassical landmark with an iconic green dome. Located in the heart of Helsinki at Senate Square, it attracts both locals and tourists throughout the day. The cathedral's gleaming-white facade stands out against the cityscape and is particularly striking when illuminated at night. With its towering central dome and four smaller surrounding domes, this iconic structure took over 20 years to build and was completed in 1852.
It was under construction, but still a sight and experience to behold! I recommend as a visit. My family and I enjoyed it. Outside near the church is great space to walk around and nearby restaurants to eat.
Linda N — Google review
Beautiful church. Unfortunately, it was being renovated on the exterior when I visited... so that took away from the overall astetics. Also, the inside was a little stark compared to other cathedrals I've visited in Europe, but I still think it's worth a visit if you are in Helsinki.
Paul C — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral is one of those landmarks that instantly takes your breath away. Standing tall above Senate Square, the white neoclassical façade with its green domes is iconic from every angle — whether you see it from the harbor, the square, or climbing up the grand steps. Inside, the cathedral is calm and minimalist, a beautiful contrast to its imposing exterior. The high ceilings and soft natural light create a sense of quiet majesty, and it feels more like a space for reflection than decoration. The views from the steps are also worth it — you can look out across the city and the harbor, making it a perfect photo spot. It’s free to enter, easy to reach in the heart of Helsinki, and honestly a must-see whether you’re into architecture, photography, or just soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
Louie F — Google review
Beautiful cathedral! Make sure to also visit the nearby Uspenski Cathedral. Unfortunately, this one was under construction, so we couldn’t experience it fully, but the restoration work was covered nicely, giving a good sense of its full appearance. The interior was lovely — definitely a must-see if you’re already in Helsinki!
Ryan K — Google review
We had a special experience visiting Helsinki Cathedral as they were displaying Luke Jerram’s MARS within the cathedral. Cathedral is beautiful in itself but seeing the scaled replica of Mars with the sound track made for a unique experience. The cathedral is something to see when visiting Helsinki
Andrea D — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral is a landmark right in the heart of the city, and it is truly breathtaking at any time of day. Morning, afternoon, or night — the atmosphere changes beautifully, and each visit feels different. You can climb the steps and enter the cathedral, where the calm and solemn interior offers a moment of quiet reflection. During my stay in Helsinki, I found myself visiting almost every day. From 28 November onwards, a Christmas market is held in the square in front of the cathedral, making the area even more lively and festive. My schedule didn’t allow me to attend this year, but watching the preparations made me want to return and experience it in the future. A stunning place that never fails to impress.
Tomoe M — Google review
It was a pleasant tourist attraction with a large square. Regrettably, several areas were undergoing renovation during our visit. However, there were still a considerable number of tourists present.
Tony C — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral and it truly lives up to its reputation as one of the city’s must see landmarks. The white neoclassical building looks stunning both up close and from the Senate Square below. Inside it’s peaceful and beautifully simple a nice place to pause for a moment away from the city noise. Don’t miss the view from the steps outside; it’s a perfect spot to sit, take photos, and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Sculpture
The Sibelius Monument, located in the heart of Sibelius Park in Helsinki, Finland, is a striking tribute to the renowned Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Designed by artist Eila Hiltunen and unveiled in 1967, the monument features over 600 steel pipes emerging from natural rock to create a wave-like structure symbolizing Sibelius's music. This unique sculpture not only captures the essence of Sibelius's musical legacy but also produces captivating sounds.
The Sibelius Monument is a really cool and unique tribute to Finland’s beloved composer, Jean Sibelius. The sculpture looks to be configured in the formation of giant organ pipes, which seem to float in the air like a metallic tree-blending music, art, and nature. When I visited, there was a short line for photos and not a large crowd, thankfully. A few peaceful protestors were there, but they were pretty far off and quiet, so it was hard to comprehend what they were protesting for. The surrounding park is also a beautiful place to walk and take in the scenery by the water. I highly recommend stopping by to get a few pictures!
How L — Google review
The Sibelius Monument is one of the most iconic sights in Helsinki, and definitely worth a visit. Set in a peaceful park, the striking sculpture made of hundreds of steel pipes captures both the spirit of music and the legacy of Finland’s most famous composer. It feels almost like an organ rising out of the rocks. The area around is calm, with trees, walking paths, and benches where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere. There’s also a smaller bust of Sibelius nearby, which adds a personal touch to the monument. Great spot for photos, especially when the sunlight reflects on the metal pipes. Easily reachable from the city center by tram or bus, and a nice place to take a short walk while enjoying Helsinki’s nature and culture at the same time.
Christos I — Google review
We visited Helsinki and this monument on a guided tour from a P&O cruise ship. The place, like Helsinki, was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Our guide made the experience come alive and I would recommend visiting.
Mr S — Google review
This is a very impressive artwork that you can feel the power and energy from different angles. The foileag in the background match perfectly to this iconic landmark.
World E — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **4/5 – Impressive and Iconic Sibelius Monument** The Sibelius Monument is one of Helsinki’s most unique landmarks, and it’s definitely worth a visit. The towering design made of hundreds of steel pipes is striking up close, especially when the light catches it just right. It’s both artistic and symbolic, capturing the spirit of Jean Sibelius’ music in a creative, modern way. The surrounding park adds to the experience, offering a peaceful place to walk around, relax, and enjoy the scenery. The nearby statue of Sibelius himself is a nice touch that rounds out the visit. The only reason for not giving a full five stars is that the monument can get quite busy during peak hours, which takes away a bit from the atmosphere. Still, it’s an iconic Helsinki sight that’s absolutely worth seeing!
Integrated M — Google review
Eila Hiltunen was the Artist, the year was 1967 and the Location is in Toolo, Helsinki, Finland. The Sibelius Monument was dedicated to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957). The sculpture is titled Passio Musicae, which won a competition, organised by the Sibelius Society, following the composer's death in 1957. Hiltunen addressed her critics by adding the face of Sibelius which sits besides the main sculpture. It consists of series of more than 600 hollow steel pipes welded together in a wave-like pattern. The idea was to capture the essence of Sibelius's music. A nice retraction to behold, in this green and colorful park.
Neeru D — Google review
The Sibelius Monument is one of the most unique landmarks in Helsinki. The abstract design, with hundreds of steel pipes forming a wave-like structure, is both artistic and moving — a fitting tribute to Jean Sibelius and his music. The nearby bust of Sibelius adds a nice personal touch. Set in a peaceful park by the water, it’s a great place for photos, a quiet walk, or simply to admire the artistry. Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring Helsinki’s cultural highlights.

Neat monument for those who like classical music. In a calm, peaceful park. Ice cream and souvenir vendors are nearby. Can be crowded if there are tour groups, but typically no issues.

Senate Square is a grand public space in Helsinki, showcasing impressive neoclassical architecture and serving as the focal point of the city's political, religious, and academic life. The square features the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, and Helsinki University's main building. It was completed in 1852 to honor Tsar Nicholas of Russia and is a key element of Engel's grand city plan. Nearby, the Tori Quarter offers modern amenities within revitalized neoclassical buildings.
It’s indeed a beautiful church, in the centre of the city. Was undergoing renovations in back portion of the church. Basement has a cafe and exhibition space, and brick styled (entrance from a separate way), though can also enter from inside of the church.
Dr. R — Google review
I mean it’s a square alright. Very nice buildings around. Obviously topped by the big dog, namely the Helsinki cathedral. No fee to enter obviously, it’s a public area. The downside was that there was work ongoing in the cathedral which kind of dulls the photos but hey, it was still great
Jjj M — Google review
Visited Senate Square during our time in Helsinki 🇫🇮 — it’s one of the main tourist spots in the city and the starting point for the hop-on hop-off bus 🚌. The square is clean, spacious, and offers a stunning view of the iconic Helsinki Cathedral ⛪️. A beautiful place to sit, take photos, and soak in the city’s calm charm. Definitely a must-visit! 🌤️

Senate Square, located in the center of Helsinki, Finland. The square is the oldest part of Helsinki and is Europe's most beautiful square. The large white building at the back, with green dome is Helsinkis cathedral, constructed between 1830 and 1852, as a tribute to Emperor Nicholas I of Russia. It is covered due to repairs and maintenance. Alexander II's statue, is in the center of the square, remembered for supporting Finnish Economy. The square is surrounded by neoclassical buildings like Govt. Palace, Helsinki's university building etc. Quiet awesome I must say, fabulously so.
Neeru D — Google review
We did the introduction walking tour of the gpsmycity, the tour was 3.1km in length and took us a few hours to complete, including taking pictures and stops. The tour started right here at the square and and ended at the Temppeliaukio Rock Church. It was a good introduction and the scenery was marvelous.
Patrick X — Google review
Visited Senaatintori, the historic heart of Helsinki, but unfortunately much of the square was under renovation during our visit. The main cathedral and surrounding buildings were partially covered with a temporary facade, which made it hard to fully appreciate the architecture. The square itself is spacious and historically significant, and it would normally be a stunning spot to admire Helsinki Cathedral, government buildings, and cobblestone layout. Worth visiting if you’re in the area, but be aware that the view may be obstructed during renovations.
SY — Google review
This is the main square in Helsinki. It’s not very big but it’s definitely a must see. Apart from the statue of Alexander II you can see the most important buildings of the city from here.

Cafe
Cafe Regatta, a charming and quaint spot in Helsinki, is a small wooden cabin originally used as a fishing hut. It has become an Instagram hotspot due to its picturesque setting by the Baltic Sea. The cafe's interior is filled with various memorabilia and curiosities, creating a cozy atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy tasty sandwiches, cinnamon buns, or tea while taking in the ocean view from the outdoor seating area.
Beware of the birds if you eat outside, but still absolutely worth the visit. The food, especially the cinnamon buns were fantastic! A cozy great place to grab a bite to eat as you stroll along the waterfront.
K K — Google review
Café Regatta is a charming lakeside café located in a picturesque red cottage by the water. It's a bit of a scenic trip from the city center, but the peaceful ambiance makes it a relaxing destination. The café offers a cozy atmosphere with outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying a coffee and pastry while taking in the lakeside views. The cinnamon roll, though not as moist as expected, had a delightful cardamom fragrance that added a unique touch. The coffee, however, had a slight off taste, possibly due to the water used, which gave it a somewhat plasticky flavor. While the food and drink may not be exceptional, the tranquil setting and rustic charm of the cottage make Café Regatta a pleasant spot to unwind. It's a nice place to visit if you're in the area, but perhaps not worth a special trip solely for the refreshments.
SY — Google review
it was such a romantic little spot surrounded by beautiful nature and lake views. We had a blueberry pie, a cinnamon bun, and a butter bun. all were freshly baked and absolutely delicious. The buns have a strong cardamom flavor, which will be amazing for cardamom lovers like me. but might feel a bit intense if you’re not used to it. As my husband said, after having a cardamom-rich bun, even the coffee started to taste a bit like scorched reindeer 🤣 in a funny, unexpected way! We walked here from Helsinki city center about 40 minutes on mostly flat paths, and it was a pleasant, scenic walk. The café has a rustic, homey atmosphere with outdoor seating right by the water. Such a lovely place! Small but very cozy inside. I guess that is very nice to sit outside in the summer. I took cinnamon bun and was super delicious, soft and warm, just perfect. They have also very good coffee. Definitely place worth to visit ☺️

Small and charming café located by the sea in the north of Helsinki. I tried a cinnamon roll, blueberry pie, and hot chocolate — all delicious, especially the fresh pastries. The place has cozy outdoor seating with a fire to keep you warm, perfect for enjoying the sea view even on chilly days. A must-visit spot for anyone looking for a peaceful local touch with great Finnish bakery classic.

Beautiful cozy romantic coffee spot behind Sibelius Park! We got here by mistake because we were visiting Sibelius Park. After we dis all the touristy stuff there, a walk along the a lake called our attention and we walked over there. Then we saw this cute little cabana. We didn’t try any of the food (which looked amazing) because we had already eaten but we had a tea and spent a lovely time here. I am surprised I didn’t read about this place but it is something you should consider to stop by when visiting Helsinki.

Helsinki: --- Cafe Regatta is a charming little spot with an absolutely beautiful view of the water — definitely the highlight of the visit. The café itself has a cozy, rustic feel, which adds to its character. The coffee and snacks are decent, though nothing too special. It’s a nice place to stop by and enjoy the surroundings, especially on a sunny day, but it’s more about the atmosphere and location than the food itself.

Time flies and nothing changes. Luckily. Atmosphere here is amazing, so every time I’m in Helsinki, I’m coming back. Drinking coffee or a cacao here on the coast is just a pure pleasure. And prices are reasonable although it’s a really popular place.

Nestled in the heart of Helsinki, Temppeliaukio Church is a unique attraction known for its distinctive architecture. Carved directly into solid rock, the church features rock and rubble interior walls, complemented by a striking copper-lined dome and skylight windows that allow natural light to filter in. This popular venue also hosts concerts and offers visitors a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
Temppeliaukio Church is one of the main tourist attractions in Helsinki. Tourists come there by bus, by vans, by walking... 8 euro entrance fee doesn't matter, people wanna see what is "must see" in Helsinki. So, tourists who have only one or two days time to spend in Helsinki prefer to visit Temppeliaukio Church. One can hear there a real mix of languages. No doubt, Temppeliaukio Church is worth of visit. It is architecturally a very special building. To create this kind of church - a church excavated into the rock, with a dome made from copper strip for ideal acoustics, with ceiling windows for natural light to come in - has been a genious insight. Even though there were so many visitors in Temppeliaukio Church when we were there, I enjoyed very much to finally see well this church.

Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the Rock Church, is a stunning example of modern architecture. Designed by architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, the church was completed in 1969 and is carved directly into solid granite. Its unique design features a massive copper dome and natural rock walls, creating a serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The interior is circular, with natural light streaming in through 180 window panes, highlighting the rough-hewn rock surfaces. The acoustics are exceptional, making it a popular venue for concerts and events. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful ambiance and admire the innovative design that blends nature and architecture seamlessly. While the €8 entrance fee is reasonable for such a unique experience, it's advisable to check the schedule for any events or services that might be taking place during your visit. Overall, Temppeliaukio Church is a must-visit attraction in Helsinki, offering a memorable experience for architecture enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

This distinctive church, renowned among tourists, features two stories. For those interested in photography, I would suggest going upstairs, as it offers a more convenient angle to capture the captivating interior. Please be aware that there is an entrance fee.

Such a cool church. On the eye, probably the most aesthetically pleasing. €8 euro entry fee, but id say it was worth it to see. Just a beautiful church

Beautiful and interesting church. Worth a visit. You do not need a long visit but nice to take a look around and admire the structure. NOTE: They do not have any public restrooms when you are visiting
Andrea D — Google review
We visited this "stone church" or "church in the rock" on purpose. The relatively expensive admission fee (€8) is surprising, as it discourages tourists who are only interested in taking photos, but also those who would like to appreciate the unique architectural design and modern sacred atmosphere, which is truly unique. We sat listening to pleasant ambient music for about 40 minutes and silently watched the preparations for the event, when hundreds of (unfortunately electronic) candles were lit. The visit was pleasant, and the space invites you to return just for the atmosphere. However, due to the not-so-symbolic admission fee (especially for poor visitors from Eastern Europe), I would think twice about it.
Michal S — Google review
I loved the architecture of this church beautifully made - never seen anything quite like it !! Thus i find the ticket pricing should be at least 5 euros when theres no service as theres not a lot to see , its just one main room.
Andrea B — Google review
Unique church, luckily a pipe organ artist came in to practice when we were visiting. The music was phenomenal. The church is very acoustic, must be ideal for a concert experience. And there’s no cross in the church. We learned it’s the open heart of Christ accepting everyone with any religion.

Art museum
Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art is a modern cultural center in the heart of Helsinki, designed by American architect Steven Holl. It stands out as one of the few foreign-designed buildings in the city and features a striking interior with a curving concrete atrium and glass ceiling that plays with light. As part of the Finnish National Gallery, Kiasma houses over 8,000 works, showcasing Finnish and Nordic art in its light-filled spaces.
Really beautiful museum. Seems to focus on sustainability and the environment, which is important. The pieces are well selected and the architecture is sublime. I had a great time visiting. I spent 2 hours there and wish I could have spent another, but there's lots to see and do in helsinki.
Nathan R — Google review
Kiasma is easily one of my top two museums in Helsinki, though “understanding” what you’re looking at is optional. If you have a taste for modern art, it’s absolutely worth a visit—just bring an open mind and maybe a sense of humor. Some works are thought-provoking, others are quirky, and a few will make you wonder if someone accidentally dropped their recycling bin in the gallery. (My travel companion swore some pieces were actual trash. He might not be wrong, but that’s contemporary art for you.) The beauty is, Kiasma isn’t huge—you can wander through in a couple of hours, feel cultured, and still have time for a long Finnish lunch. And the building itself? A sculptural statement that upstages half the exhibits. Kiasma proves that art doesn’t need to be liked—or even understood—to be unforgettable. Sometimes it just needs to make you smirk, squint, and say, “Seriously?”
Its L — Google review
The building of Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art, is in itself a work of art. Of course the exhibitions of the museum are very high quality and some single artworks are masterpieces but walking there inside the building around is walking inside the artwork. It's almost intoxicating. In Helsinki there are some very interesting museums. No doubt, Kiasma is one of them.
Hannu T — Google review
Loved the materials in this museum. Couldn't ever imagine such everyday things or videos or paintings or sculptures can be turned into art. Some people fund art in almost everything and that's the beauty of it. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I fully understood this. Auditory and visual hyperventilation and a mix of repercussion and surreal hypotonic metabolism. Would love to go there again if I can manage time money and willpower.
Sunny S — Google review
Kiasma Museum in Helsinki is definitely worth a visit. Even though I went on a free day, it offers great value for the price. The museum has multiple floors filled with impressive artwork, and there are also performances and small cinema-style installations that make the experience more interactive. Highly recommended for contemporary art lovers.
Владимир С — Google review
Overpriced entry fee to see mostly trash. €22 is criminal The museum (I would call it a gallery) is conveniently located and easy to reach. The building design is impressive, more impressive than the art itself There is no art at all on level 1, and level 5 was filled with mostly vulgar art that cannot even be uploaded to a Google Map review. Parents be warned There was a children’s group during my visit and it made me think, the children could create better art than the “professionals” who have their art displayed. Only few pieces of art do I enjoy looking at. Rest should be thrown into the skip where they belong Many toilets. Facilities are great for people with disabilities. Lockers and cloakroom available, as well as a cafe (with average food and high prices). You can waste your money and time like I did and visit yourself, make up your own mind
Sam — Google review
A striking new building in Helsinki, part of the Civic complex worth the library and theatre adjacent. Clever ramped access to the galleries on each floor level. A mixture of exhibitions and attractive cafe area and gallery shop.
M1G_52 — Google review
Look, it was a cool experience, first ever time in an art museum. I’ll be honest, I didnt really get it but that’s okay, there was some really nice pieces. Some other stuff confused me but that’s part of the experience I suppose. Was a shame that I came a few days before new exhibitions came to the 4th and 5th floors. I attached my three favourite things, like I said, I’m not really an art buff but these were nice

Helsinki Central Library Oodi is a striking, ultra-modern library that opened in 2018 and has quickly become a must-visit destination. It's not just a place for books; it's an innovative space with floor-to-ceiling windows, Finnish spruce timber, and real trees growing between shelves. The library offers much more than traditional reading materials, featuring 3D printers, video games, recording studios, and maker stations for visitors to explore.
Oodi Library in Helsinki is truly amazing – it’s so much more than just a library. The atmosphere is modern, welcoming, and inspiring. Printing and other services are very easy to use, with no hassle and at a much cheaper price than elsewhere. The building itself is beautiful, with plenty of space to read, work, or simply relax. Oodi is a cultural hub, a meeting place, and a great example of how a library can serve the whole community.

i was visiting helsinki on a rainy weekend. unfortunately both the days i was there it rained almost non stop. i managed to do some sightseeing but i was also on the hunt for indoor activities. the library was recommended so i came to check it out, not really expecting much. was i wrong. this library is so cozy, it immediately became like a second home and not just a shield from the rain. the space inside is huge and has everything you need: a quiet area to study, spots to hang out with friends, or in my case a place to rest, eat a quick bite and be cozy. there are super comfortable corners where you can sit, take off your shoes and just mind your own business. the toilets are clean and convenient, and there are also water refill stations. truly a magical place.
Elena M — Google review
The public library was amazing. Not only architecturally impressive but it’s a high end, high tech community center. It was teeming with people on a random Wednesday afternoon. The resources are extensive: large format printers, sewing machines, gaming rooms, music recording studios, musical instrument lending, work areas, reading rooms, cafes, outdoor balcony space, creative stairwell. Really spectacular. A must visit. It’s an eye-opener for re-inventing traditional libraries into vibrant, valuable community centers.
Susie B — Google review
We knew about the reputation of this library, but visiting it in person was still surprising. The institution serves as inspiration for how a library should function as a community and social center. Everyone, young and old, rich and poor, well-read and simple, can find something to do in the library. The library is not only for reading and borrowing books. There are also work tables, 3D printers of all kinds, tables with sewing machines, and meeting rooms of all sizes, from small boxes for quiet individual meetings to larger meeting rooms for about 20 people. There are also game rooms, cafés and children's corner. The visit was very pleasant and encouraged us to sit down in an armchair with a coffee, a cinnamon bun, and a view of Helsinki. All libraries should learn from Oodi.
Michal S — Google review
It’s def my favourite place in Finland and maybe in Europe in general 🥺 everybody is welcome here and you don’t need a reason to visit. You could just hang here all day! There’re so many books and resources too. I love it here. It’s such an inclusive space Xx
Xiao C — Google review
A very cozy library! The third floor was incredibly calm, perfect for picking up a board game or a book and enjoying some quiet time. There are plenty of reading spots with lovely views. The second floor hosted workshops, and we saw many people creating things, though as tourists we weren’t sure how to join — it seems you need to book in advance. There’s also a quiet room where you can play video games, which requires prior booking.
Ryan K — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful libraries I have ever seen. It's hard to tell from the modern architecture that this is a museum, gallery or performing art center. It's definitely an iconic building.
World E — Google review
One of the most modern and inspiring libraries I have ever visited. I had heard about the famous library in Oslo, but never about the one in Helsinki—so I was genuinely surprised when I stopped by and discovered such a vibrant variety of activities: walking tours through the library, people using 3D printers, young visitors playing video games, and others simply working or relaxing with coffee on the terrace. I’m truly glad to see that the concept of so-called “third places” is becoming more and more popular, because we really do need more spaces where people can connect and interact.

Allas Sea Pool is an urban spa that offers a range of wellness facilities and events, including saunas and fresh/seawater pools. Located in Helsinki, it provides visitors with a unique experience, boasting a prestigious location near the Market Square and the Presidential Palace. The complex features a floating pool deck with two 25-meter swimming pools (one with warm water and one with filtered sea water), as well as a children's pool.
Great place, especially to finish a trip and relax for a few hours before the ferry. There are three saunas: one small sauna for men and women separately (about 6–7 persons each), one large mixed sauna (around 20 people) with an amazing panoramic window and a spectacular view of the bay and the coast of Helsinki. This one is medium hot, around 80 °C, and with the push of a button, water is poured onto the sauna stove rocks. There is also another mixed sauna, quite hot at about 90 °C, that seats around 15 people. In addition, there is a very nice heated swimming pool—slightly more chlorinated than a typical pool, but the highlight is a small outdoor seawater pool next to the saunas. Its temperature is the same as the sea (around 15–16 °C during the summer), making it wonderfully refreshing and pleasant after a hot sauna.
Ivan K — Google review
A "stylish", "modern" marine spa in a prime location, great for photos, but the comfort level falls short. Only three outdoor saunas, small and packed in the late afternoon. The outdoor areas lack any shelter or storage for towels and belongings in rain. The changing rooms are tiny, poorly cleaned, and get slippery – honestly, I found them quite unsafe. Staff are polite and professional, but completely passive: you have to ask, because no info is offered of their own accord. Overall, a slick concept, but maintenance and service feel underwhelming.
Emmanuel P — Google review
Enjoyed our 1st Finnish sauna here & loved the experience. We weren’t sure how we would cope jumping into the freezing water, but so glad we did it. 2 hours was enough & finished with a swim in the warm pool.

Dared Myself To Visit. Glad I Did. Bring a Proper Attitude, it Gets A Bit Nippy Outdoors. Place is Spacious, Came on a Weekday and It Was Just Enough Busy to Feel Comfortable. Outdoor Pool is Great For Laps. Cold Plunge is Exhilarating. Saunas Provide Just Enough Release and Random Nooks and Spots to Relaxe Offer A Relaxing Environment. Would Gladly Come Back Again. Group Friendly. Would Visit Again. There is some construction outdoors but it didn't lessen the experience. 💯 This is a locals favorite.

This is the ultimate Finnish sauna in Helsinki. Two mixed saunas, one all male sauna. one female sauna offer varying levels of heat. The one behind the cafe offers no view and is the hottest. My fav is the mixed sauna with port view. The cold pools are two pools about 27degrees celcius today, one for lap swim. The sea pool is about 15degrees Celsius and is pure sea water. I preferred the temperature if the pool and dipped my feet and hands in the cold sea pool They offer shower before and after sauna. Towels and swimsuits are available for rent. Our three hour senior pass cost about 18 Euros The cafe offers accessible open first level overlook to the port area. The restaurant on second level offers a more expansive view. This is the place to experience the true Finnish sauna, the health concept developed and perfected in Finland.
Toni T — Google review
Good place for a 100% finnish sauna. You can also take a bath in the warm swimming pool or in the sea water swimming pool, but the las one is very cold.
Catalin A — Google review
We had high hopes for the Finish sauna experience, but we came a little disappointed after spending a couple of hours in the Allas Pool center. The saunas were VERY busy, so much that we had to wait for people to get out before we could get in. Keep in mind they only have 3 coed saunas, so that limited our options. Perhaps it was so busy because it was a Saturday at the beginning of summer. Maybe it would be less crowded during the working week.
Adriana A — Google review
Expensive but beaut spot. Changing rooms are too small and I couldn’t imagine doing it in the winter time as there’s very little shelter. But the concept is v cool. And the sauna with the view of the harbour is awesome.

The museum's focus on modern Finnish art from the 20th to the 21st centuries provides an enriching cultural experience.

It is 5 euros for a student. There are not many exhibitions. There are two exhibition rooms, one is large and the other is a small space. They gave me stickers with admission tickets, but they told me to put them on my clothes, so I just carried them around. Lockers are free. The bathroom was clean, too. I got a good impression on this exhibition. However, it seems a little expensive to see without a discount.

A short walk from Kamppi Chapel, Amos Rex is one of the coolest museums I’ve visited. The architecture outside is already impressive with its curved rooftop domes. Amos Rex is a stunning architectural landmark in the heart of Helsinki. Even if you don’t have time to go inside, its exterior is enough to leave a lasting impression. The distinctive bubble roofs create a unique landscape, perfectly combining modern architecture and public space. In March, when I visited, the morning light shone down, highlighting the delicate architectural lines. The location of Amos Rex is very convenient, right on Lasipalatsi Square, easily accessible by public transport. The area around the museum is also worth exploring. Lasipalatsi Square is a vibrant public space where you can relax, watch the city’s pulse and take beautiful photos. I was impressed by the harmonious combination of architecture, art and public space at Amos Rex. This is a must-see destination when you visit Helsinki, even if you only have time to admire its beautiful exterior.

Well worth a visit as a day trip. this place is fabulous! Houses and buildings from around Finland from many different historical eras. Curated so well giving context to how people lived during those times. They were guides at some of the larger places who had excellent knowledge of the buildings, people who lived in them. All of this set and a great natural setting .

Such a beautiful and peaceful place, I'm so sad I didn't have time to visit it fully (had a plane to catch). Will definitely come back and take more time to visit (90-120 mins recommended for a real experience). Most of the actors there are friendly and helpful for explanations. Note that you can access the island for free and see the buildings from the outside, but I'd recommend paying the 13€ fee to see the interiors.

It's a very cute island, and the staff members are very passionate and knowledgeable about Finnish culture and architecture, they also dress up as historic characters of the period. By the way, you only need a ticket of you want to visit the inside of the houses, otherwise you can walk around the island for free and see the exterior for free. If you want to buy the ticket, it's cheaper to buy it online in advance. It's a bit difficult to get there, only bus 24, which is every 30 minutes, otherwise, it takes 10-15 mins to walk through the forest through to the main road, which is relatively flat and easy to walk and follow.

The National Library of Finland, also known as Kansalliskirjasto, is a historic institution located near Senate Square in Helsinki. This Neoclassical architectural gem houses an extensive collection of books that form the literary heritage of Finland. The library's main reading room is a sight to behold with its towering bookshelves and classical aesthetics. Inside, visitors can admire the beautifully frescoed and marble-columned halls, spacious interiors, wooden staircases, and immense columns.
Beautiful library with really well preserved books. If you take a moment and look through some of the shelves, you can find pretty old manuscripts and pieces of history hidden inside. This was hands down my favourite stop in Helsinki! We were visiting for the day while on a cruise and weren’t expecting the National Library of Finland to be such a highlight—but it absolutely was. At first glance, a library might seem like an unusual tourist attraction, but this one is truly breathtaking. It’s a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture, designed by the renowned Carl Ludvig Engel and completed in 1844. The symmetry of the building, grand entrance with towering columns, and a façade adorned with sculptures and classical reliefs all speak to the cultural pride and ambition of the era. Inside, it gets even more impressive. The main hall is one of the most stunning interiors I’ve ever seen. Helsinki’s most mesmerizing murals line the domed ceilings, surrounded by 28 soaring marble columns, each capped with gilded gold leaf. The ceiling itself is richly decorated with symbolic imagery representing knowledge, learning, and enlightenment. The beauty doesn’t stop there—ornate balconies and carved wooden galleries surround spacious, light-filled reading rooms, creating a serene and inspiring atmosphere. You truly feel like you've stepped into a sacred space dedicated to ideas, art, and history. And the best part? It’s completely free to visit. Whether you’re there to admire the architecture, snap a few photos, or just take a quiet moment to sit and reflect, it’s well worth your time. If you’re in Helsinki—even just for a few hours—make time for this stop. Be sure to check current hours before you go.

1 | A beautiful library full of historic books, some dating back to the 19th century. Entry to the library is free, and the books can be freely browsed. Each floor is dedicated to a different theme, all clearly marked. I recommend climbing the stairs (or taking the elevator) to the top floor, which offers a beautiful view. 2 | Entry to the library with a backpack (or other large luggage) is prohibited. We left our backpacks with security at the entrance. 3 | The building of the National Library of Finland dates from 1840 to 1845, designed by the Finnish-German architect Carl Ludwig Engel. In 1906, a rotunda was added to the library, designed by architect Gustaf Nyström. 4 | An interesting feature is the huge book depository located in an underground rock bunker about 18 meters below the library. It was put into operation in 2000. 5 | We spent about 20 minutes in the library, went through all the floors, and looked for books by Czech authors or related to the Czech Republic. And we found them! That’s how extensive the library’s collection is.

Visiting the National Library of Finland was such a pleasant surprise. The building is striking, but it’s the quiet, thoughtful atmosphere inside that really stands out. Walking through the halls, surrounded by books and history, feels inspiring in a way that’s hard to describe. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time just exploring and admiring the details. Even if you’re not a huge book fan, it’s worth popping in to soak up the calm and beauty of the space.

Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, located in Helsinki, Finland, is one of the largest sea fortresses globally and is often considered a living museum due to its rich history. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991, it showcases unique European military architecture. The fortress consists of six interconnected islands accessible by bridges and can be reached by a short ferry ride from Helsinki. It's a popular tourist attraction offering an immersive historical experience.

Frequent ferris daily to reach the island. Enjoy the tranquility time travel walk. We arrived there before daybreak, the unmanned visiter information center was open, supplying warmth, wifi, toilets and maps.

This was a really nice way to spend half a day in Helsinki! Good to reach by public transport ferry. The island is quite nice and green, pretty quiet this time of year already as well but many things to see.

Nice trip by ferry. Views by ferry are very nice. Castle itself is a nice place to walk around in quite serene place. This place is of historical importance otherwise not much to see. Ferry itself is cheap at 3.2 Euro for a ticket that is good for 90 minutes, so one may be able to a return trip using a single ticket.

I had heard great things about Suomenlinna and I wasn’t disappointed! Such an adorable little island. It is filled with history and just lovely to walk around. Such easy access to get to, you don’t want to miss this on your next visit in Helsinki:)

The Old Market Hall in Helsinki is a historic 19th-century venue located near the iconic Market Square. It offers a unique shopping experience with shops and stalls selling traditional Finnish specialties, including local cheeses, seafood, fruits, vegetables, cakes, spices, teas, and coffee. Adjacent to where fishing boats dock, visitors can sample fresh seafood in a historic atmosphere. The vibrant Market Square nearby features bustling activity with stalls offering fresh produce and handmade crafts.
The Old Market Hall in Helsinki, Finland, was one of our first stops right after arriving on the 2-hour ferry from Tallinn, and we truly enjoyed every moment. It’s fascinating to see so many international flavors under one roof, from Vietnamese classics to Turkish coffee, from fresh fish and seafood to unique souvenirs like deer horns and furs. There are dozens of small shops to explore one by one, each with its own charm. Absolutely recommended!!

Restored fish market (I am assuming) that now houses individual food stalls. We were there pretty early so it wasn't busy. There are free toilets in the back. We bought a delicious lingonberry mini pie. It's right on the water, near the ferry that takes you to Suomenlinna, a popular tourist destination. I imagine that the hall is jam packed during the day. There are hot prepared, packaged, and to go options available.

The Old Market Hall is a fantastic place to explore and experience Helsinki’s local flavors. The hall is full of character, with plenty of stalls offering fresh produce, fish, baked goods, and traditional Finnish treats. The atmosphere is lively but not overwhelming, and it’s a great spot to grab a snack or just soak in the local culture. A must-visit for food lovers and anyone who wants a taste of authentic Helsinki!

Near the outdoor market, ferry to Suomenlinna, and offers delicious salmon soup... couldn't love this spot more. Visited twice on my short trip to Helsinki. Does seem to get quite the cruise crowd at lunchtime though.

The Old Market Hall is a beautiful seaside building, and its elegant exterior immediately caught my eye. Inside, it opens up into a lively market where you can find everything from fresh produce to local delicacies and souvenirs. There are also plenty of food stalls and cafés to choose from. I tried reindeer soup at one of the lovely cafés inside, and it was absolutely delicious. It’s a wonderful place to explore, enjoy local flavours, and experience a bit of Helsinki’s food culture. Highly recommended when visiting the city.

Tasted a good great salmon soup, cinnamon bun and non alcoholic glogi from one of stalls. Enjoyed the vibe along with locals for an afternoon tea and hopefully, able to visit to the market hall again. Highly recommended for those who plan to visit Helsinki city centre:)

The Design Museum in Helsinki is a must-visit for design enthusiasts, showcasing the innovative spirit of Finnish design. Housed in a striking neo-Gothic building, it offers an extensive permanent collection that captures the evolution of Finnish design and architecture over the past 150 years. The museum displays exhibitions featuring local and foreign designs including graphic design, fashion design, and industrial design. It also features a cafe and gift shop for visitors to enjoy.
Would recommend a visist to the museum as Finland is known for great designers. Great collection beautifully presented. Was plesently surprised with the 80 year Moomin exhibition. Although I had wish too see more vinage Moomin items. The exhibition had a very modern point of view, still well executed.
True R — Google review
The Design Museum had some nice pieces, but nothing mind blowing or particularly memorable. If you're in town for a long time and looking to fill a quiet afternoon, then sure, go have a look. It costs 20 euros per person, which felt steep for something that was honestly average at best. The staff at the ticket counter could have been a lot friendlier; mostly chatting among themselves or glued to their phones, not exactly helpful. Would definitely not go again.
Neptun Y — Google review
We got in for free because it was the last tuesday of the month. I can recommend it! I especially liked the Moomin & Tove Jansson exhibition, there was also a free guided english tour which was interesting. Lots of information also about Finland, its architecture & society especially after the war times. The museum shop is also quite nice.
Jette D — Google review
As architects and design enthusiasts, we were genuinely excited to visit Helsinki’s Design Museum—in a city celebrated for its aesthetic clarity, clean lines, and functional beauty, we expected a world-class institution. Unfortunately, what we found was a disappointment cloaked in stylish lighting. Let’s start with the cost: the entry fee is one of the highest we’ve encountered in any museum anywhere, and certainly the steepest for what you actually get. Yes, Finland isn’t known for its bargains, but for a country that values design so deeply, the price-to-content ratio here feels way off. Inside, there were a few genuinely engaging moments. A well-thought-out exhibit on Finnish chair design showed the elegance and ingenuity of Scandinavian craftsmanship. A section on glass and ceramics was also strong, giving insight into materiality and manufacturing. But beyond that, the museum felt oddly vacant—curatorial restraint to the point of absence. Sparse walls, limited depth, and a surprising lack of major pieces or interactive installations that one might expect in a design capital. Your ticket also includes entry to the Museum of Finnish Architecture just across the street, which we’d hoped might redeem the experience. It didn’t. One exhibit, minimal content, and little more than a hallway of placards and models. As architects, we were craving plans, sections, urban context—something—but walked away shrugging. All in all, the ambition and price suggest a landmark. The reality feels more like a stylish placeholder. Helsinki deserves a design museum as strong as its output. This isn’t it—at least not yet.
Adam R — Google review
Design Museum is a comparatively small museum with 2 floors of exhibit, the ticket also includes visit to the Architecture Museum which also has 2 floors of exhibit and is a separate building behind. The exhibition felt poorly designed for both the Design & Architecture Museum, few places missed providing any context for the display. There are only few artefacts of intrigue and felt like the collection was a miss opportunity to show the Finnish way - because the modern designs in use are quite thoughtful. It costs €20 a ticket for each adult which felt expensive for the whole experience. Some stories of the designers and architects like Alvo Aalto and Haaris were really good, but there are very few artefacts or context given into what they have designed. A better experience would be to roam around the design district and try out shops and restaurants instead of spending lot of time and money here.
Saswat — Google review
I gave the Helsinki Design Museum four stars mainly for the excellent Maija Lavonen exhibition on the upper floor. Lavonen's evolving and innovative art is impressive, such as the sails piece and of course her more recent application of fibre optics woven into the textiles. But Lavonen's work is really modern art, not so much design, yet it consumes most of the museum dedicated to design. The actual "design" artifacts and displays were less satisfactory in the relatively small area on the main floor. These exhibits offer a tiny fragment of what Finland designers have created. Visitors were offered descriptions for a few designers (e.g., Nyman), but most of the displays offered minimal context. For example, how did the famous ball chair come to be, and did it influence other chair designers? Also, design isn't just chairs and glass vases; it includes household products (this museum does briefly mention the Nurmesniemi coffee pots etc.), vehicles, possibly architectural design, and even the aesthetics of ship interior design. So, after Lavonen's exhibition has ended (and hopefully displayed at other art museums), the Helsinki Design Museum needs to make effective use of the large upper floor to show the world with more variety and depth what great designs have emerged from Finnish creativity over the past century or two. Visited in August 2025

Museums
The Finnish Museum of Natural History, recently renovated, showcases the natural history of Finland and the world through various exhibitions. It houses an extensive collection of botanical, zoological, geological, and paleontological specimens from around the globe. The 'Finnish Nature' exhibition takes visitors on a captivating journey through Finland's diverse landscapes. Meanwhile, 'History of Life' explores evolution from the Big Bang to the Ice Age mammals.
Wow! What an incredible museum — truly one of the best I’ve ever visited, and I’ve been to many. It’s packed with fascinating exhibits, and if I remember correctly, it spans five floors! Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Helsinki and have a couple of hours to explore.
Ryan K — Google review
We had a really enjoyable time at the Natural History Museum in Bern — it honestly felt like walking through a zoo, except the animals didn’t move! The life-sized dioramas of animals in their natural habitats were incredibly well done, with realistic poses and environmental details like birds in flight or a tiger mid-hunt. It was immersive and impressive. A standout experience was the preserved animal specimens in jars inside a temperature-controlled lab-like room. There were also interactive exhibits explaining DNA preservation — a cool scientific touch. We especially enjoyed the section where we could touch real animal skins and leathers. The staff member there was friendly and engaging — sadly, the only one who seemed to care. Another staff member we asked about the dinosaur section had no idea what was in the museum, which was frustrating and unhelpful. Unfortunately, we were excited to see the dinosaur exhibition, but it was either closed or we completely missed it. That was a major letdown (which was the reason for 4 stars), and the lack of English descriptions throughout the museum didn’t help either. Only the Barry the rescue dog section had full English support. Still, the sheer variety of animals — from insects to elephants — and the overall quality of the exhibits make this a must-see in Bern. Just don’t confuse it with the other nearby "history museum," which was painfully dull in comparison. Give me animals over Einstein's biography any day.
Isuru C — Google review
The Natural History Museum in Helsinki is an engaging and well-curated space spread across three floors, offering a journey through nature, science, and deep history. At the ground floor an elephant greets you in. The second floor is particularly impressive, with its detailed and beautifully presented displays of Finland’s diverse species — a fascinating way to understand the country’s wildlife in a single visit. The third floor is where the real excitement begins, especially for younger visitors. The prehistoric exhibition is brought to life with its star attractions: the dinosaurs. These displays are both educational and spectacular, making them a highlight of the museum and a guaranteed favorite for families with children. Overall, the museum strikes a fine balance between learning and fun, making it an excellent destination for families, tourists, and anyone with a curiosity for the natural world. The only real downside is the souvenir shop, which could benefit from a wider selection of items tied directly to the exhibitions — especially prehistoric-themed gifts, which would be a natural hit. Also it would be nice if the entrance in the museum could be included in the Helsinki Card among the other museums

The National History Museum is a place you definitely shouldn’t miss! I’ve visited twice, and it never disappoints. If you have a Museum Card, this museum is included one of the best places to use it. The card is totally worth it for a year, especially if you love exploring museums in Finland. Today, they opened it for free, and even with the big crowd of adults and children, everything was well organized. The building itself is spacious and beautiful, and there’s even a nice café inside. I really love this place the interior design is stunning, and the animal displays look almost real! You’ll definitely learn a lot and discover many new animals (with their names in Finnish). A must-visit for locals and tourists alike.

Absolutely loved this museum. The exhibits were well thought-through and brilliantly put together and presented. It covers pretty much every branch of natural history, from pre-Cambrian, mass extinctions, Triassic to Cretaceous, Eocene, Palaeocene, Holocene all the way to modern day. I’m a geologist so I love the attention to detail in curating these sections in the museum. Even though there weren’t signs everywhere for you to read the exhibits, there were audio guides and it took me and my geologist boyfriend 4 hours and we still didn’t manage to see all the exhibits! Great museum and would definitely recommend! Quite reminiscent of the NHM in Oslo if you want to draw comparisons.

Absolutely amazing!!! There are 3 floors. They display bones, fossils, animals in the ocean, desert, tropical forest,... The models look so real and have a story for the scene. Highly recommend when u're in Helsinki.
Trần T — Google review
I really enjoyed visiting the Natural History Museum in Helsinki. The exhibits are well organized, informative, and visually engaging. There’s a great mix of displays covering Finnish wildlife, dinosaurs, geology, and the story of life on Earth. The museum balances learning and exploration very well. It’s also very kid-friendly. There are plenty of interactive elements, things to discover, and exhibits presented at heights and formats that work well for children. It kept both kids and adults interested the whole time, which is no small feat! That said, not everything was in English, so it helps if you have some understanding of Finnish or Swedish or are prepared to interpret some of the exhibits The building itself has a charming historic character, and the layout makes it easy to move through at your own pace. Whether you stay for a short visit or spend a few hours, you’ll walk away having learned something new. Overall, it’s a fun, engaging, and family-friendly place to visit — definitely worth adding to your Helsinki itinerary.

Now closed restaurant Kaivohuone, with its almost 200 years history, is legendary, and so are yearly May Day parties when hordes of students with their white graduation caps use to conquer Kaivopuisto - until the police empties the park.

Constructed with Italian Carrara marble and Finnish Oulainen granite, the interior boasts luxurious materials such as Carrara marble, travertine, red beech, and oak parquet. The hall hosts major political, cultural, and financial events in addition to being home to two concert halls.

As a conference place, the Finlandia hall is just average. For evening parties it is pitiful. People with drink tickets have to stand in queues for 15-20 minutes. The staff is sooo slow wanting to greet everyone one by one, ask what they want, take empty glass, fill it etc. Truly feels like in the film zootopia. Kamppi Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Silence, is a modern architectural marvel situated in Helsinki's vibrant Kamppi district. Designed by K2S Architects, this elliptical wooden structure stands out amidst the urban landscape. Its minimalist interior and serene ambiance offer visitors a peaceful retreat for silent contemplation and reflection away from the city's hustle and bustle. This unique space provides an opportunity for personal introspection and tranquility within the heart of the bustling city center.
The Kamppi Chapel is a peaceful oasis in the middle of busy Helsinki. The wooden interior and soft lighting make it feel calm and welcoming, perfect for a quiet moment of reflection. A small but unforgettable spot — definitely worth a visit!

Very small Chapel in the centre of Helsinki. Nicely designed mostly wood . Closed on a Sunday which I found odd for a religious building. Inside silence must be observed .
Peter M — Google review
1 | A very interesting chapel in the center of Helsinki, notable for its unusual architectural design. It is made entirely of wood and has received several architectural awards. 2 | Unfortunately, we couldn’t go inside because it was Sunday. Strangely enough, the chapel is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Nevertheless, it is so remarkable that it’s worth seeing even from the outside. 3 | The entrance fee to the chapel is €5. I can’t really say whether it’s worth paying. 4 | The chapel was only opened in 2012, designed by the Finnish architectural studio K2S Architects. It is 11.5 meters high, and the section with the altar has no windows at all.

The Kamppi Chapel, often called the “Chapel of Silence,” is a truly unique experience in the middle of busy Helsinki. The modern wooden architecture is stunning, and stepping inside feels instantly calming — a peaceful escape from the noise of the city. It’s not about religious services but about offering a quiet moment for reflection and stillness. A beautiful example of design meeting purpose, and a must-visit if you want a few minutes of tranquility during your trip.

Interesting building made from a variety of woods. Inside it is very quiet if you are not inside with rude tourists! You are asked to be silent inside the chapel. It is just the chapel room, we were there maybe 10-15 minutes max so it’s easy to slot into a busy schedule and take a breather.

The Kamppi Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Silence, is a unique and serene space nestled in the bustling heart of Helsinki. On a sunny day, the chapel's wooden structure glows warmly, inviting visitors to step inside and escape the city's hustle and bustle. The chapel's minimalist design creates a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for quiet reflection and contemplation. The gentle curve of the wooden walls and the soft natural light filtering through the skylight create a sense of peace and calm. It's a place where you can truly disconnect from the outside world and find a moment of stillness. Located in the Kamppi district, the chapel is easily accessible by Helsinki Regional Transport (HSL) zones A and B. It's just a short walk from the Kamppi metro station and several bus and tram lines. This makes it a convenient stop for anyone exploring the city center. Whether you're seeking a moment of peace, an architectural experience, or simply a break from the city, the Kamppi Chapel is well worth a visit. It is also home to Kappeli, one of Helsinki's oldest restaurants serving classic Finnish cuisine.

Esplanadi is a lovely spot right in the heart of Tampere. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, as it is clean, well kept, and full of life during the summer months. There is a good balance between green space and places to sit and relax, which makes it ideal for a coffee break or simply watching people go by. The location is perfect too, with shops nearby and close to the main attractions. I give it 4 stars mainly because although it is beautiful, it can become quite crowded during the busiest hours, which slightly affects the peaceful vibe. The park is named after the renowned Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and features an English-style landscape garden with a variety of attractions. One of its main highlights is the famous Sibelius Monument, designed by Eila Hiltunen in memory of the composer.
Beautiful park with an amazing metal structure. We went in winter and it was very cold but the scenery was espectacular. You can get there on the bus, then from the bus stop you have to walk approximately 20 minutes. But the walk is worth it.

There are two playgrounds in the park that look lovely, so this would be a great choice if you have young children. It is about a 30 minute bus ride from downtown Helsinki. No cafes near by and I didn't see any public restrooms.

Just stunning!! The centerpiece of this park dedicated to Finland‘s most famous composer is the art sculpture that weighs more than 24 tons. It’s simply gorgeous from any angle. We walked from near Stockmann Department Store, but it’s easy to reach by Uber or bus. Not sure about trams. Definitely a must see in Helsinki.

Sibelius Park is where music, nature and city life meet. The steel monument rises like frozen organ pipes by the sea, while ponds, pines and yachts create a calm setting. Benches, a playground, an ice cream stand and even toilets make it a perfect stop to rest and feel Helsinki’s rhythm
Carmen — Google review
Sibelius Park is one of the most beautiful and inspiring places to visit in Helsinki. Located along the scenic coastline in the Töölö district, it perfectly combines cultural heritage with natural beauty. The park is most famous for the iconic Sibelius Monument, a stunning piece of art dedicated to Finland’s beloved composer Jean Sibelius. Made of hundreds of steel pipes, the monument is both impressive and moving, especially when the wind creates soft tones through it. Beyond the monument, the park itself is a wonderful green space filled with tall birch trees, open lawns, and peaceful walking paths that lead to the sea. The views of the water are breathtaking, and there are plenty of spots to sit and relax while enjoying the fresh air. It’s a popular place for both locals and tourists to picnic, read, or simply soak in the serene atmosphere. For those who enjoy a bit of activity, you can also rent kayaks or bikes nearby, which is a fantastic way to explore the coastline and surrounding areas. On a sunny day, paddling along the bay or cycling through the leafy paths makes for an unforgettable experience. Sibelius Park is more than just a park – it’s a place where nature, culture, and history come together. Whether you come to admire the monument, enjoy the sea breeze, or take a peaceful stroll, it’s a must-visit destination that truly reflects the spirit of Helsinki.
Kalina M — Google review
This city is full of history. To understand Finlands past this could be a starting point. Not forgetting it was home to one of the greatest Finnish music composers Sibelius. A day trip is worth it if not spending a night. Boat trip with lunch is also an option.
Neleah K — Google review
For a tourist in Helsinki, Sibelius Park is a "must visit" place. The park is actually more than just the famous monument; it is surprisingly big park where there in other end of the park is a fenced dog park, and there in the other end is a playground for children, and there in between some peaceful places to spend one's summer day. But Sibelius Monument is the issue. Full buses of tourists come there to admire the monument, to take pics and, of course, to take selfies. And I don't wonder why. I hadn't seen Sibelius Monument, I think, for decades, and I must say, I was surprised how impressive the monument really is, a true tribute for Finland's best known (and in my opinion the best) composer (ever).

Review: Sibelius Park – A Harmony of Art, Nature, and Tranquility by the Sea Sibelius Park in Helsinki is one of those places that quietly captivates you. Nestled in a peaceful urban area near the shoreline, it beautifully blends the serenity of nature with the artistic soul of the city. 🌲 Scenery and Atmosphere Winding paths, a playful fountain, and the salty sea breeze create a soothing ambiance. A small birch grove adds a touch of Nordic charm, especially when sunlight filters through the leaves. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely walk, reading a book, or simply unwinding. 🎶 Tribute to Jean Sibelius The park’s centerpiece is the striking monument dedicated to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, created by artist Eila Hiltunen. Composed of over 600 steel pipes, the sculpture evokes the spirit of Sibelius’s music in an abstract, poetic form. Nearby, a more traditional bust of the composer adds a personal and emotional touch. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 For All Visitors Sibelius Park is welcoming to families, tourists, locals, and even pets. There are gentle trails for children, open spaces for picnics, and benches for quiet reflection. Modern amenities, including accessibility features and contactless services, make the experience even more comfortable. --- 🔚 Final Verdict Sibelius Park isn’t just a green space—it’s a cultural and sensory experience. If you’re visiting Helsinki, it’s well worth a stop to feel how music, nature, and art come together in a peaceful urban retreat.

Fresh food market
Hakaniemen Kauppahalli is a traditional 6-day food market located in Helsinki, Finland. It offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor stalls selling fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, and other local products. Visitors can experience the Finnish food culture by sampling smoked ham, reindeer meat, local cheeses, and Karelian pies. The market hall also features the Urban&Local concept to showcase small businesses.
Hakaniemi Halli is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Helsinki! My visit was an absolute delight, filled with amazing food, unique finds, and a cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home. First, I indulged in a classic Finnish laskiaispulla—a soft, fluffy bun filled with whipped cream and almond paste, topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. Paired with a crispy and nutty pistachio baklava, it was a match made in heaven! To wash it down, I grabbed a bottle of Laitilan O.Pom, a refreshing and slightly tangy fruit soda that perfectly complemented my sweet treats. The fresh produce section was equally impressive! I picked up some organic vegetables in a charming eco-friendly bag, a testament to Hakaniemi Halli’s commitment to quality and sustainability. The selection was fantastic, with colorful, fresh greens and locally sourced goods. One of the highlights of my visit was discovering the Uusix shop, a treasure trove of handmade and upcycled Finnish crafts. I found a beautifully designed wooden spoon, elegantly wrapped, that showcases the craftsmanship and creativity of Finnish artisans. Overall, Hakaniemi Halli exceeded all expectations! The combination of delicious food, fresh produce, and unique handmade products makes it a must-visit spot in Helsinki. Whether you’re looking for a tasty treat, quality groceries, or a one-of-a-kind souvenir, this market hall has it all. I can’t wait to go back!

Warm, authentic Helsinki – loved it! Hakaniemi Market Hall is a truly authentic and welcoming spot in central Helsinki. Recently renovated, it strikes the perfect balance between local charm and light tourism, without feeling commercial. The ground floor is filled with beautifully presented food and craft stalls – fresh produce, fish, spices, coffee, design items. A cosy restaurant sits upstairs, but you’ll also find plenty of snacks and sweet treats scattered throughout. Warm atmosphere, friendly vendors, and a great place to enjoy a taste of everyday Helsinki with style.

Beautiful market hall that sells products ranging from fresh fruit and canned goods to handmade bags and leather products. It's conveniently split between two entire floors of a large building. There's also a small flower shop offering a great variety of plants and flowers. The first floor also has a cafe and several shops that sell freshly-made food. There's plenty of variety making it a good choice for people who are undecided. The top floor has various shops that sell handmade items, including soap bars, bags, and souvenirs.

If you wanna feel something about the traditional market hall atmosphere in Helsinki, you have to go to Hakaniemi. Compared to Old Market Hall close to Market Square, Market Hall in Hakaniemi has kept at least something of the old market hall culture. There are store which sell fresh vegetables, fish, meat... and handicrafts, souveniers etc.; and there are some small restaurants to eat and coffee shops to enjoy. Nice place to visit.

Nice experience. You can find a foodcourt where you can try a big variety of local food. Also there are a lot of markets with souvenirs.

I visited this place on September 27, 2025. It's a really lovely open-air market, but I had a bad experience with this "TRADITIONAL ORIENTAL PASTRIES" shop. The man in the photo charged me €23.92 for just two pieces of baklava. Unfortunately, I was ripped off on my first day in Helsinki.
Victor A — Google review
2 floors, groceries on ground, arts crafts and textiles on second floor. Some cafes with very short menus but reasonably priced. The building is clean and very pretty. Unless you are buying ingredients to cook not sure it's really worth the effort to go to this as it is very small and you will finish it in less then 30 minutes. There is probably 40 stands on each floor. It's nice but really not worth detouring for this.

Kauppatori is a year-round harborside market in Helsinki, offering a vibrant mix of food stalls, handicrafts, and a heated cafe tent during the winter. It provides an authentic Helsinki experience away from tourist crowds. The market square specializes in seasonal Finnish foodstuffs and souvenirs, located on the seafront at the northern end of Etelasatama harbor.
Nice little market at Helsinki - Food prices are about 12 to 20+ Euros. The food was great but the portion is huge for solo traveller. Would recommend to get one for sharing instead. Be careful of the seagulls because they are everywhere so just finish your food in the tent and you should be good.

Kauppatori was the only stop on the hop-on hop-off bus tour that truly felt worth hopping off 😄. Later realized it’s just a short 500m walk from Senate Square! The market is lively even on Mondays, with friendly vendors offering tastings of fresh fish and local food 🐟🍓. A happening place full of energy, and you can also catch the ferry to Suomenlinna Fortress 🚤 from here. Definitely worth a visit in Helsinki 🇫🇮!

Beautiful harbour market which is a mixture of street foods, fresh fruit, ice cream and craft stalls. You can catch a ferry to the local zoo from the harbour and also take sightseeing cruises which are very informative. Whilst at the harbour why not visit the indoor market where you can eat local delicacies or just watch the world pass by. Further along the harbour is the Helsinki wheel which costs around 25 euros a beautiful way to see the city from high up.

Korkeasaari Zoo, established in 1889, is a beloved attraction located on an island in the Baltic Sea near Helsinki. The zoo houses over 150 species, including big cats and reptiles, and is known for its successful breeding programs for endangered species like snow leopards and Amur tigers. The hilly island covers 22 hectares with hiking trails and various picnic spots.
It is nice to visit Korkeasaari Zoo with your family. You can bring your children and show the the real animals. This place is good and many children park, where you can stop for a while. Despite many cute and good animals here, I don't recommend to visit during lunch time. I don't know maybe we are not lucky enough, some animals slept during that time, such as tiger, and lion.. Overall rate, I give 5 stars.
Muhamad R — Google review
Very beautiful place to visit. They don't have a huge amount of animals but, the ones they have, are very well taken care of and have a lot of space to be, exercise, run, etc. I would advice a morning visit because some of the animals will not be available after 16h (if I'm not mistaken), like some monkeys. And, when it gets too warm they will seek for a cooler and shady area, sometimes inside, which will prevent you from seeing them. There's some coffee shops and a place inside where you can also eat meals brought by you. Amazing selection of frogs.
Richy ( — Google review
The zoo is on an island (i think the entire island is the zoo). I got there by JT-line boat, which is free with Helsinki City Pass (recommended, many activities with 55euro/48h). Anw, the zoo is ok, animals are not really active on a sunny saturday morning of August. But they look well taken care of and have a lot of space. Prepare yourself with drinks and at least 1,5h of walking :)
Trần T — Google review
Small zoo but still took 3 hours to go round as watching the animals and exploring all the nature zones and trails around. Great facilities and large enclosures. We enjoyed our time and saw some animals we haven’t before which was really cool. Being by the water was refreshing and amazing backdrop for the zoo.
Gemma H — Google review
I visited this zoo quite early (11am-2pm) there was not lot of people so no line, saw most of the animals except big cats. I assume they would be more active during afternoon hours, food and drinks were good and gift shop had lot of things to pick from. Ticket prices were affordable and all the events (feedings) were clearly stated in signs, I loved that. I recommend visiting with the whole family or group
Elena P — Google review
The zoo was very clean and large. Excellent facilities, even for grilling. The animals' rights were well met and they were all in the best condition. Good food and enough space appropriate to each animal's habitat were very interesting and satisfying to me. Good luck.

I was here at free day with my young child. She is 1,6 y.o. we both engaged so much to see all of this animals. Just I'm sad littel bit, cuz we get there late and didn't see feeding of animals. Otherwise I'm highly recommended to visit this place..

It is a kind of fun loving experience when it's for kids . You can enjoy the scenic beauty of nature along with the wild animals and different species of birds and their habitat. Once a while visit a place is worth it also pack your snacks along with you for convenience and get yourself ready for a long walk coz the zoo covers a very large area so enjoy visiting this zoo for making new memories to remember ☺️

Löyly Helsinki is a modern seaside sauna and restaurant located in the newly developed Hernesaari residential district. The angular wooden structure of Löyly is an architectural wonder, offering visitors three options: enjoying the spacious sauna with a sea dip, dining in the stylish glass-walled restaurant, and relaxing on the shoreside terrace. The restaurant emphasizes clean, simple flavors with a focus on organic produce and ethically caught fish, inspired by the Finnish landscape.
Visited spa, book a ticket in advance for a spot as gets busy. The saunas were great with a few options. Plenty of seating outside and a nice and relaxed feeling. Lockers and showers clean with shower gels. Saunas had space to sit and soak in the experience. The sauna with a view was nice!
Ben C — Google review
Löyly is a must-visit in Helsinki! The design and atmosphere are incredible — a striking modern building right on the waterfront, with panoramic views of the Baltic Sea. The sauna experience itself felt both authentic and welcoming, with multiple options including a traditional smoke sauna and easy access to the sea for a refreshing dip between rounds. Everything is clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully run. I especially appreciated the calm vibe: people respecting the sauna culture, alternating between heat, cool water, and relaxation on the deck. The restaurant and bar are also excellent for extending your visit with good food or a drink afterward. It’s worth booking in advance since time slots do fill quickly, but it’s absolutely one of the best ways to experience Finnish culture in Helsinki. Highly recommend!
William O — Google review
A dream combinations of communal sauna, restaurant and bar by the beautiful waterfront. Really enjoyed the time here. However the facilities needed some good ongoing maintenance, a clear sign of current lack of good maintenance otherwise it's a great place to switch off and relax. Thanks ☺️
Saif I — Google review
This is a must visit place while checking out Helsinki! The sauna is a mix of locals and some tourists. 3 different saunas and the opportunity to plunge in the Baltic was perfect. The restaurant is great for the après cause there’s literally nothing else in the immediate area other than a funky Skåne fisherman’s hunt, but I doubt they will serve up a delicious dish of torsk. I had the reindeer or was it the venison?!?… but regardless it was amazing red meat! Do it and you’ll have ikke regerts!
Stephen M — Google review
We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant followed by a fabulous two hour experience in the sauna. The restaurant food was lovely and it had a great cosy vibe. Highly recommend the desserts too! The saunas were both great and you could dip into the sea which was very refreshing. We both felt amazing afterwards and wish we had time to go back!
Phoebe — Google review
Absolutely adored my experience at both the sauna and the restaurant. The sauna staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. There was a great respect from all sauna users and enhanced the experience. The tasting menu and paired wines were brilliant. The waiting staff were excellent and went above and beyond for us when we advised them it would be our last meal before an early flight the next day. We were loaded with extra bread, excellent for mopping up delicious sauces throughout the meal and sent away with some cinnamon rolls for a snack later but ended up being much needed breakfast.
Adam G — Google review
I had both sauna and dinner at this place. The sauna was amazing - I know it is not the most authentic experience, but for me who has only been to sauna once in my entire life, the organised system definitely helped. Also glad that I dipped in the freezing ocean (November), it turned out to be an amazing experience. The restaurant was okay. Great atmosphere but I didn’t like the food as much as I would love to. We have also waited quite some time until someone come and ask whether we have a booking or not.
Faye L — Google review
I really enjoyed Löyly, a must visit to get the famous Finnish sauna experience. It was a mix of locals and tourists, due to the limited people they allow in each slot, it wasn’t too crowded. The two main saunas were great, they even opened the private for everyone which was also nice, much smaller than the other two. Sitting by the fire place in between sessions was an amazing way to recharge, I really enjoyed. Definitely recommend to make a booking weeks in advance, otherwise it might be full.

Really lovely restaurant with fun and inviting decor. Wish we hadn't been sat quite so close to the table next to us but I understand wanting to maximize capacity. The food was fantastic! Fantastic dinner experience! I could not fault anything. The warm, welcoming service from the staff, the delicious food, the cool decor and atmosphere. And they are extremely dog friendly! We had the vegan set menu, and everything was great! This restaurant exceeded expectations. I will definitely return next time I am in Helsinki.

On our final night in Helsinki, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Yes Yes Yes, and it turned out to be one of the best vegan meals we've ever had, possibly the best of our lives. We chose the 4-course prix fixe menu with wine pairings, and every dish was a standout. Creative, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor, a true celebration of what plant-based dining can be. The wine pairings elevated each course and felt expertly chosen. The service was impeccable, the staff warm and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere lively and stylish without being pretentious. We also loved the setting, perfect for people watching and soaking in the local vibe. If you're in Helsinki, vegan or not, Yes Yes Yes is a must. This was the perfect way to cap off our time in the city. An unforgettable culinary experience from start to finish.

We happened to turn up at Yes Yes Yes on a Sunday and mothers day – so lots of things closed and busy. They were full but squeezed us in. They were running a set menu of small plates. Outstanding! Everything was great – we particularly liked the fried gnocci and the risotto. The tofu sticks were delicate with a great dip/sauce. Lovely wine. Service was particularly attentive and very upbeat. Definitely one to go back to.
JONATHAN P — Google review
Had dinner here a couple months ago with my friends (a party of four) and I have to say that I hugely recommend! We had two starters to share, four main courses and two desserts. The food itself was above average good, but for example the bread-dip ratio in the tandoori bread thingy was a little off. My friend said her risotto was amazing and I especially loved the sourness of the rhubarb sauce with my asparagus. Plus point for the dishes that change seasonally to honour the ingredients that are currently at their best! The service could only be received in English but that didn’t bother us, on the contrary! The staff were friendly and polite and eager to recommend dishes and explain the differences between menus. The atmosphere was pleasant too. Definitely worth another visit! <3

Vallisaari, a charming island situated near Helsinki, Finland, is a popular destination for both tourists and locals. Once a military base, the island now offers visitors marked trails, picnic areas, and restrooms amidst its rich history and natural beauty. Accessible by a brief ferry ride from the city center, Vallisaari features diverse plant and animal life as well as picturesque coastal views. The island also houses 17th-century forts that add to its historical allure.
I happened to attend the Helsinki Biennial on Vallisaari island. The exhibition was nice, although some installations were, to put it mildly, not very appropriate – such as the large colorful plastic excrescence on trees. However, the islands (including Kuninkansaari island) were, above all expectations, impressive natural monuments! Dense forest on the granite hills, which embrace old artifacts, like military and civil buildings left from XX century. Water- and songbirds, small mammals like martens are freely moving around. On the sandy beach at Kuninkansaari during warm days is possible even to dip yourself into water. Though excellent infrastructure developed as well - multiple comfortable coffees and even nice giftshop. Definitely worth of visiting.

Nice place to spend the day. You can enjoy Vallisaari untouched nature, there are lots of different herbs growing there. You can have a picnic and watch ferries going nearby or enjoy the view of Suomenlinna. There is a scenic point to view island from above. You can find different cafes there on the way. This summer you can enjoy Helsinki Biennale art event which held from the 12th of June till 26th of September 2021 and it is free of charge. Art objects are located in different places: in the powder cellar, in the residential buildings and on the way. Hurry up to enjoy Vallisaari 😀

The island has many restricted areas yet it is charming. Vistors can access the island by boats. Boat tickets can be bought online and in advance. The island has coffee shops, restaurants, free cleaning water for drinking, toilet and numerous of art exhibition. The island only opens during summer.

Nice little island to walk around. We visited during the art festival so we got to enjoy some art as well. There are restaurants, toilets, taps with fresh water all around the island. Ateljee Bar, located on the top floor of Hotel Torni in Helsinki, offers breathtaking views of the city. This popular rooftop bar is a favorite among locals and visitors alike for its casual and lounge vibe. The bar provides a perfect setting for a date night or hanging out with friends while enjoying delicious cocktails. With its open terrace and panoramic views, it's an ideal spot to start your evening before heading out for more fun.
An absolute gem! The drinks were delicious, crafted with care, and the rooftop terrace offers stunning panoramic views over the city- perfect for a sunset cocktail. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, and the service is fantastic- friendly, attentive, and professional. It’s a popular spot, so the rooftop terrace can get quite crowded, making it a bit challenging to find a spot, especially during peak hours. However, the overall experience is well worth it. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy great drinks with a view in Helsinki!

A bar with a view. It's situated on the 11th floor of a hotel and elevators are tiny (2 elevators in different locations). As expected, cocktails are pricey. We liked how they tasted, but wish the portions could be bigger for the price. This place is super busy and gets crowded in the afternoon so come early or on a weekday. The panoramic view of the city is the biggest highlight especially before sunset. Unfortunately, we didn't get to visit the famous toilet since people didn't want to come out.

Pretty bad selection of beers so I decided to go with a cocktail. Espresso Martini was great but a bit pricy. But I guess you choose this place because of the scenery and that was 5/5. It took 5-10 minutes to get an elevator to the top so prepare to take the stairs if you're in hurry.

The drinks are overpriced, the service was rude, and you have to queue between tables just to order. I politely asked if she could fill the glass a bit more and she said, “It’s filled.” (look at the picture also how she put the coffee beans lol + table was dirty). The view is definitely worth seeing, but I’d skip the drinks

Worst espresso martini I've ever had. I dont think there was any alcohol in it, just tasted like black coffee, and only half filled the glass. For the cost I'd expect the best espresso martini ever! Views are nice.

Cocktail bar
Located in Helsinki's design district, Liberty or Death is a trendy cocktail bar that offers an intimate and cozy atmosphere. The bar is known for its extensive selection of bottles behind the bar and its focus on creating creative and fun cocktails tailored to guests' tastes. The menu changes frequently, offering a variety of unique drinks such as the Manhattan and the Helsinki cocktail.
Only went because the recent review (photo attached) made me laugh out loud. Definitely can confirm: it is cocktail heaven. The cocktails are absolutely divine - really well crafted - and the vibe is relaxing and enjoyable too. Highly recommend if you like cocktails (and perhaps for conversion to a lifelong cocktail loving if you don't).

Great little cocktail bar. Funky music not loud. Professional cocktail place. A large window overlooking a small park in Helsinki.
Bill E — Google review
This place lives up to the hype—the mixology is absolutely killer. My bartender, Lauri, was operating on a level of expertise usually reserved for secret agents. Not only was the Toronto cocktail ridiculously smooth and complex (legit!), but Lauri also proved to be the ultimate source for critical Helsinki intel, including where to find the rumored legions of tall Nordic blondes nearby. Come for a perfect Toronto, leave with an elevated buzz and highly actionable directions to your destiny. Lauri is a national treasure. Five stars, plus a map to heaven.
Don L — Google review
We ended up there on the recommendation of a bartender from another bar, who told us it was their last open night before a big renovation. The place had been cleared of furniture, and the goal was to sell off all the alcohol. We walked in and got an awesome "house party" experience — light cocktails were being served, house shots handed out and the vibe was fully set by the DJ A great experience!😌

We ended up here as the skybar at Hotel Torni was closed, I like to try new things but already have my taste/ type of cocktails so went with a specific drink in my mind. It is a mezcalita, which I had one of the best at Negra Tomasa in Tulum or can be a long drink made of mezcal and passion fruit puree, so far The Liar Man in Athens did the best. Here they didn’t have passion fruit, nor purée to my surprise. They had a pre-made cocktail that contained mezcal and passion fruit too, I was hesitant as pre-made cocktails are hardly ever good (one exception is Granazi in Nicosia, Cyprus) at the end unfortunately I let myself to be convinced by the staff. Well the cocktail came from a big plastic bottle and it had nothing to do with passion fruit flavour, it had a very mild mezcal taste, wonder how much alcohol they really put in it plus it came in plastic glass :( I should have listened to my gut feeling, anyway the staff offered to change it, I didn’t want to be too picky and asked for some lime to make it more sour as it was far too sweet. As it is a recommended place with quite good reviews I didn’t want to leave with a bitter mood, we ordered another round from their signature cocktails, good that we did that. The negroni with basil was very good and refreshing but the winner was the C.R.E.A.M -rum based cocktail with raspberry foam on top, it was something special. All in all the place is ok, nothing special in terms of atmosphere or design, small bar, plastic glasses are a shame, also normally better cocktail bars serve you a small portion of salty nuts or snack next to your drink, I was missing that. Staff was very friendly thought and offered me a 10% discount on my bill for the pre-made cocktail I didn’t like.

Very nice place. They even can make custom Drinks not on the menu. Very good service and knowledge. Nice Atmosphere. Would be my goto cocktail bar if i would live here.

Amazing cocktails, very up to new tendencies, staff very attentive and very polite. Really good job on the carbonations and amazing vibe, small cozy bar with the best vibes ever

Drink menu was creative and also weighed 2kg. (Literally) My drink was delicious and well crafted. The atmosphere was cool, funky and hip. They had old school hip-hop Playing in the background which just added to the cool factor. Average price €15 - €20. Definitely recommend!

Seurasaari is a picturesque island located just north of Helsinki, offering a delightful escape into Finland's rich history and culture. This serene destination is connected to the mainland by a charming wooden bridge, making it easily accessible for visitors. The highlight of Seurasaari is its open-air museum, which features an impressive collection of historical Finnish buildings such as traditional farmhouses, barns, and even a 17th-century church.
Very beautiful place to visit in Summer. Many historically valued buildings are there with guides to explain about it.

Wonderful museum! Such an interesting buildings and details. All staff fluently speak English, and is willing to answer all the questions you might have about the history, peculiarities and the tiniest trifle you happen to spot during the tour. The museum closes at 5 pm, but it means only that the buildings are locked, the territory itself is opened 24/7 and is more like a public park.
Paula Ā — Google review
I visited this open-air museum in Helsinki on my own and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my trip! Right in the first cottage I met an amazing guide who truly brought Finland’s past to life. He wasn’t just repeating textbook facts. He shared lesser-known stories with such passion that I could feel how much he enjoys digging into history. From why red houses became a symbol of Finland, to how whole wooden homes were once moved across the country, to the hidden meanings in words like väki. Every detail felt like a window into another world. He was also kind enough to take a photo with me which made the moment even more special. What impressed me most was the way he connected everyday traditions, like the sauna, with deeper cultural layers. Learning that it was once considered a sacred space, where life both began and ended, made me see Finnish culture with fresh eyes. All the staff were dressed in traditional costumes which created a wonderful atmosphere and many of them were very knowledgeable too, happy to share interesting stories and facts. Even though I came alone, I never felt lonely. The stories and people made the place feel alive. Highly recommend this museum if you want to go beyond the surface and experience the soul of Finland. ✨

Seurasaari is a magical place. I was fortunate enough to visit on a rainy and gloomy Saturday morning in late August and walked around the island, exploring the various buildings and the nature. The atmosphere and silence on this island was out of this world. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to visit the interior of the buildings but I will definitely plan accordingly next time I visit Helsinki.
Veronica E — Google review
Visited Seurasaari in autumn. Beautiful golden leaves, fresh air, and peaceful paths by the water. Easy to reach with bus 24 from Kamppi (just check the schedule). A perfect spot for a quiet walk and escape from the city.

Nice place with interesting views inside the cottages. 13 euro / person entrance for 2 hours promenade.

What a pleasant island to visit! It’s near the city yet it feels totally away from it. Small and very walkable. Great open-air museum showcasing vernacular architecture from different parts of Finland. Kids could get close to ducks, swans and squirrels too.

Bakery Eatery Levain Töölö is a popular spot in Helsinki, known for its hearty brunch, pastries, and coffee. The café exudes the charm of a Californian brunch joint and the finesse of a Parisian patisserie. Their signature sourdough bread and Portuguese pastel de nata tarts are highly recommended.
My favourite brunch & breakfast in town, both eat in and via food delivery app. The egg sandwich is so rich with flavour and the pancakes are so fluffy. My fave is perhaps the yogurt with homemade granola, a bit too sweet but hits the spot regardless.

Had to pay a visit at lunchtime to test the new Summer menu and as per usual, Levain did not disappoint! The atmosphere is unique and the menus offer a wide range of both all-day breakfast and lunch dishes along with the sweets and drinks. We ordered two fresh Summer salads, one with cold smoked salmon and one plain, accompanied by an oat cappuccino. Really tasty! The staff was kind to explain us how the ordering process works the first thing we entered, even without us asking. The customer’s toilet had run out of soap and was not the tidiest I’ve seen, but otherwise an excellent experience! <3

One of the better brunch spots I went to in Helsinki! They have delicious brunch options, pastries, and specialty coffee. It’s everything I would ever want for a nice, weekend brunch. I had the Eggs Norwegian, a Flat White, and an Almond Croissant. Everything was really good and I was very pleased with the quality of the food.

Absolutely fantastic service, great coffee and baked goods. Did not try foods but they looked good as well. Not the best for coffee, but due to good location, large menu and fantastic service, Levain is a good choise.

Lovely egg sandwich. Had the menu with egg sandwich, müsli, nuts and yogurt, juice and coffee. 21€. Asked for cappuccino instead of filtered coffee, had to pay an extra euro for that. I total 44€ for two. A wonderful brunch, just a little too salty from time to time. Very friendly staff. You have to order and pay at the counter. Water, cutlery, napkins are provided. You just have to get them yourself. We will definitely return! 👍🏼☺️

Was visiting the rock church, however as the Church did not open until 10am, we decided tk fo in for a quick drink. Ordered the hot chocolate and the matcha latte. The hot chocolate was great and not tok sweet and the matcha latte actually tasted like great quality ceremonial grade matcha. The latte was rich and well balanced. Customer service was wonderful and friendly and this cafe is located just down the street from the rock church (probably a 30 second walk).

The Mannerheim Museum, located in Helsinki, is a historic 19th-century mansion that once served as the residence of Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, a prominent Finnish statesman and military leader. The museum offers guided tours through the large mansion, providing visitors with insight into Mannerheim's life and career. Exhibits showcase his extensive travels across Europe and Asia, as well as his collection of art by significant Finnish painters.
Very nice museum to know about the past president Mannerheim. Need to book ahead online coz it only accepts 10 people for each tour session. And it only opens on Friday Saturday Sunday with only one English tour available.
Xi C — Google review
British tourist that really enjoyed visiting this museum. Mannerheim from the British point of view can be seen as a controversial figure it is well worth researching the build up to ww2 and the Russian invasion of Finland prior to your visit for full context.
Garry P — Google review
Museum is very well done, with wide range of displays that give an interesting display of Marshall Mannerheim's exceptional life and impact to Finnish history. I was lucky enough to be there when it was not busy, and my young tour guide was excellent. The only criticism I would have is the museum's facade, that was too non discriptive considering what's inside. I would expect proper name, coat of arms, Finnish flag, displayed outside the museum.
Eric P — Google review
Only guided tours. Worth visiting if one knows enough of Finnish history. For a foreigner the, actually quite good, guide's words might not mean much.
Tapio M — Google review
This museum is somewhat that I cannot give a good rating. First of all, it wastes people's time waiting until the time for entrance. The female staff is indifferent to customers, I can tell it is not her own business that she doesn't care. I took off 30 minutes in the morning the security man politely said it's fully booked. He offered to make a reservation for me at 1500 so I come back. When the female staff try to scan my helsinki card it doesn't work. The security man said that they are changing system and they don't have a new scanner. The woman wanted to turn me out and doesn't care even it is my second time here today. I'm really upset about the attitude of the female staff and I'm truly sorry for the owner of this museum to have this kind of employee. visiting on Sunday.
Cs L — Google review
Surprised to see such a beautiful museo in Helsinki! You must book a guide, that will explain in detail all the rooms and Mannerheim's life.
Andrea G — Google review
The museum is situated in the house in which Mannerheim lived for many years. A guided tour is provided for every visitor in several different languages. The furniture and the objects in the house are all authentic and well preserved. The tour allows you to explore the history of Finland and to learn a lot about this amazing national leader, Mannerheim. A definitely must see!
Violeta A — Google review
The visit of the museum consists in a guided tour (12€). Very well-done and really interesting, about the life and acts of Mannerheim but also the more global history of Finland from its independancy. Definitively worth it.
