Restaurant
Hills Dumplings is a popular Asian eatery that offers a wide variety of meat and vegetable dumplings, as well as bao buns and craft cocktails. The restaurant is known for its cozy atmosphere and modern decor. It caters to both vegan and vegetarian diners with its delectable handmade dumplings, while also offering options filled with pork or chicken. Customers praise the made-to-order dumplings, fried chicken, and cool vibes at this casual spot.
Love the food at Hills Dumplings. It is fresh, delicious and tasty. We always try to have a meal here when in town. Love their cocktails. The staff are friendly and professional and there is a great vibe. Recommend booking so you aren’t disappointed.

Surprisingly charming dumpling spot with great service Hill’s Dumplings really impressed us. From the outside you might not expect much, but inside it’s cozy, lively, and clearly popular — we were glad we booked ahead. We tried the pan-fried chicken dumplings, chicken satay dumplings, a pork bao bun, plus rice and salad on the side. Everything was delicious and exactly what you hope for from a place like this, in the best way possible. Portions were just right and the food came out quickly. Staff were incredibly friendly, spoke great English, and stayed attentive without pushing tips or hovering. It can get a bit busy and tables are close together, so expect a lively, medium-noise vibe rather than a quiet dinner. Overall, great food, amazing service, and definitely worth a visit.

Very flavourful food and the price-quality is insanely good. Definitely the best place I have eaten at while in Helsinki. The service is also fast and the location’s nice

We booked hills for a large bachelorette party. We had different eating restrictions and allergies that we asked to be catered for, and hills delivered above and beyond! They were incredibly attentive, supportive and great hosts! I can not recommend them enough! Thank you so much to the whole team that helped make the night amazing for the bride and the group!

My wife and I specifically targeted Hills Dumplings based on some recommendations and were wildly impressed! With a sort of fresh-ish take on a traditional dumpling house, the shop is nestled just a short flight of stairs off the street. Pop by the counter and place an order during lunch- we swung by around 1300 on a Thursday afternoon and while the place had several groups, there was no wait for a table. I highly recommend their dumpling lunch combination; my wife and I tried all 3 varieties of theirs and were surprised to find it hard to pick a single favourite- the satay was particularly interesting if you're down to try something new; but I'm a traditionalist and loved their good 'ole fashioned pan fried dumplings. Their pork bao is great too! For the price this is one of the more impressive little hidden gems of wildly high quality food and quick service you can find on a trip through the city. The first round of dumplings was more than sufficient but we found ourselves ordering another lunch order to share just because we were THAT impressed and wanted to try everything! Can't recommend it enough if you're in the area (or even if you're not- worth a trip out of your way for a great lunch).

Hungry before the show I b-lined to here. Unfortunately as I approached a lot of other people seemed to have the same idea. Which is a good sign if the locals eat here but I backed out of the stairwell feeling overwhelmed. Bracing myself I re entered and in all fairness was rapidly seen to and miraculously a table found for me. I was sat to the right side where it was actually pretty chilled and cosy. As you can imagine they mostly serve dumplings here. I chose the duck gyoza style in satay and the fish curry dumplings. To drink I had this tasty cocktail of sorts which tasted nice and strong. I am not exaggerating when I say these are some of the best dumplings I've ever consumed. They were the perfect texture, flavour and just wow. The service was very attentive and approachable. Would highly recommend and perhaps book to be on the safe side.

Great dumpling spot for sitting outside on patio. The dumplings come served up your way steam, fried, or brothed. Very tasty. We had the chicken steamed. Also got the pork bao buns. Very large in side and good flavor, but a little to dense and to much dough for my liking. Beer was delicious but hard to mess up.

Average portion of dumpling is quite small to adult so consider take ALL-IN portion. Nice food, nice staffs and good atmosphere.

Ramen restaurant

Fat Ramen is a popular restaurant located in Helsinki, offering delicious and hearty ramen dishes. The restaurant is known for its generous portions and friendly staff. They have mastered the art of noodle making, ensuring that each bowl of ramen is flavorful and satisfying. In addition to their signature ramen bowls, they also offer vegan options such as tofu, mushroom, and cauliflower ramen, as well as vegan baos and dumplings. For students, there are special deals available on selected items.
Nice restaurant inside the market hall. There are 3 vegan ramen options (tofu, mushroom and cauliflower) as well as vegan baos and dumplings. As a student, you can get the Tofu ramen for 10€. There is also a deal with which you can get Ramen, a drink and a side piece for less money. You can choose if you want the Ramen spicy or not. The staff is really friendly and I liked the atmosphere as well as the food, would come again!
Alina H — Google review
The take-away ramen is surprisingly good! I expected that the take-away noodle would be more or less sticky; however, it was still very bouncy and solid when the delivery arrived. The meat broth is literately "fat"😋, it goes so well with noodle, portk belly, egg and the shredded leeks. Dining outdoor at in summer time is even better!
H Z — Google review
Staff were friendly and helpful. Dishes were a good idea but lacked something to really bring the wow factor from other ramen restaurants. The buns were tiny and undercooked (buns were still doughy), the pumpkin potstickers was flavorful but not as effective as an overall dish as I would have hoped, the ramen (one tofu and the other mushroom) had very salty broth which was too heavy to finish. Also the portion is much smaller than other ramen restaurants. Good selection of vegetarian / vegan options but they just need to tweak the overall end result a bit to bring about a truly magical dining experience. But overall a good attempt.
Terrence T — Google review
Went there after reading reviews and was a bit disappointed. Didn't like the taste of neither broth nor noodles, (the meet was good though), but the whole combination of broth, noodles, meat, egg and greens didn't taste good to me at all. My guess is wether you like their ramen or not mainly depends on personal taste. I prefer ramen in another place, where I enjoy dishes every visit. I gave 3 starts because the staff is friendly, meat was good, but there was awful smell in the place of pork being cooked. To conclude, go there and try their food, maybe this ramen is for your taste and this place will become your favorite.
Maria A — Google review
Very welcoming staff, delicious worth the price Ramen (I guess there were other items on the menu too), non-wheelchair accessible. Bear in mind t’s a bit warm sitting on the second floor in summer.
Marjan K — Google review
As a disclaimer I've got to say I usually eat chicken ramen with a different broth elsewhere, and this was my second time ever with tonkotsu. I was disappointed, as I expected a richly flavored broth as a result of the workload this meal requires (broth especially). Aside from being fatt yas the broth should be, any actual discernable flavor (at least to my palate) was absent. I tasted my companion's tofu ramen, which was far more flavorful. The spicy pork ramen variant would have had more contents along with just the marinated egg this meal had. I'll need more experience to say whether the tonkotsu broth here is actually what it is supposed to taste like, but I hope I'm wrong. Next time I visit I'll have to try the salmon or chilled umami ramen. The service and the place were nice, I just may have had way too high expectations for the meal here.
Onni T — Google review
Nice cosy setting, good tasty ramen, generous amounts of meat. Enjoyed our 2 ramen selections of Smokey Duck & the house special (Fat Ramen). Pork bun was good too.

Cozy restaurant located at the Market Hall. Highly recommended!! Simple service, staff friendly and the atmosphere at the place is so pleasant and relaxed. The ramen is so delicious, reasonable prices. Vegan options are available.

The Old Market Hall in Helsinki is a historic 19th-century venue located near the iconic Market Square. It offers a unique shopping experience with shops and stalls selling traditional Finnish specialties, including local cheeses, seafood, fruits, vegetables, cakes, spices, teas, and coffee. Adjacent to where fishing boats dock, visitors can sample fresh seafood in a historic atmosphere. The vibrant Market Square nearby features bustling activity with stalls offering fresh produce and handmade crafts.
The Old Market Hall in Helsinki, Finland, was one of our first stops right after arriving on the 2-hour ferry from Tallinn, and we truly enjoyed every moment. It’s fascinating to see so many international flavors under one roof, from Vietnamese classics to Turkish coffee, from fresh fish and seafood to unique souvenirs like deer horns and furs. There are dozens of small shops to explore one by one, each with its own charm. Absolutely recommended!!
Kalyoner — Google review
Restored fish market (I am assuming) that now houses individual food stalls. We were there pretty early so it wasn't busy. There are free toilets in the back. We bought a delicious lingonberry mini pie. It's right on the water, near the ferry that takes you to Suomenlinna, a popular tourist destination. I imagine that the hall is jam packed during the day. There are hot prepared, packaged, and to go options available.
J P — Google review
The Old Market Hall is a fantastic place to explore and experience Helsinki’s local flavors. The hall is full of character, with plenty of stalls offering fresh produce, fish, baked goods, and traditional Finnish treats. The atmosphere is lively but not overwhelming, and it’s a great spot to grab a snack or just soak in the local culture. A must-visit for food lovers and anyone who wants a taste of authentic Helsinki!
Jack F — Google review
The Old Market Hall is a gem in Helsinki — full of charm, history, and flavor. The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, with beautiful old architecture and rows of stalls offering everything from fresh seafood and pastries to Finnish delicacies and local treats. It’s a perfect spot to wander and sample traditional foods. A great mix of authentic culture and everyday life, and a must-visit when exploring the city.
William O — Google review
I visited the Old Market Hall (Vanha Kauppahalli) in Helsinki this August, and it quickly became one of my favorite stops in the city. The market is small but full of character, with a warm atmosphere that blends history and local flavor. Walking through the wooden stalls, I found an incredible selection of fresh fish, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, and other Finnish specialties. One highlight I absolutely have to mention is the traditional Finnish salmon soup (lohikeitto). It’s rich, creamy, and comforting – exactly the kind of dish that makes you feel like you’ve tasted something truly local. Sitting down with a bowl while watching the bustle of the market felt like stepping into the heart of Helsinki’s food culture. Whether you’re after a quick bite, unique local products, or simply a cozy place to explore, the Old Market Hall is a must-visit. It’s the perfect spot to experience authentic Finnish flavors right by the harbor.
Kalina M — Google review
Beautiful historic market with a great atmosphere. Nice place to try Finnish specialties like smoked salmon, reindeer meat, and pastries. A bit small and prices can be high, but worth visiting for the experience.
Anwar S — Google review
This hall was so cute! From cafes, quick bites, fresh meat, caviar, and bathrooms. What more could you ask for. We tried the popcorn coffee which was amazing and a stuffed baked potato. One of the highlight locations on our trip.
Kelli D — Google review
Must visit when in Helsinki! Definitely try the Eriksson fish stall for the best salmon and lobster soup and their amazing fish tapas. 🦞 Great souvenirs as well such a reindeer jerky, caviar and licorice. There are some good coffee spots too! ☕️

Asian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Helsinki, Restaurant Gaijin is an iconic and lively eatery that offers a modern take on Asian-fusion cuisine. The menu, curated by acclaimed chefs Tomi Bjorck and Matti Wikberg, showcases flavors from Korean, Japanese, and North Chinese cuisines with a contemporary twist. The restaurant's moody interiors create a mystical atmosphere for guests to enjoy their shared dishes that introduce vibrant and fresh flavors.
The best food and service in 2025…!!! So lovely staff and so tastefull. Would recommend to everyone who come to Helsinki
Troels S — Google review
We visited Gaijin as part of a credit card dining offer. We arrived on a Sunday at 15:00, just when they opened. It took about 20 min to get the menu and another 20 min to get the drinks. The starter arrived at 16:15. Starters were ok but nothing particularly special. The mains were tasty, especially the ribs. However, the amount of lettuce felt a bit too little for the dish. We had to cancel a drink that hadn't arrived by the time that we had finished the food, and the cherry on the cake was a hair in the food. Restaurant was not exactly busy, and there was sufficient staff. Yet, service was very lacking, and it ruined the experience and fond memories that we had of the place. Overall, the food was good but not worth waiting an hour for, and the flavour was not enough to compensate getting the dish cold. Probably not going back.
Alejandra K — Google review
Restaurant Gaijin in Helsinki is one of those rare places where the food is so transportive, you forget you meant to document it. I had full intentions of snapping pictures of each course—beautiful plating, vibrant colors, you know the drill—but that plan evaporated by bite two. When the food’s this good, your camera can wait. The cuisine is modern Asian with Nordic finesse—Japanese, Korean, and a touch of Chinese, filtered through Helsinki cool. We went with the tasting menu, which I’d strongly recommend. It’s generous in portion and beautifully paced. Every dish felt deliberate but never fussy, with unexpected flavor combinations that worked: smoky and sweet, tangy and umami, spicy but in balance. Think marinated black cod that melts into the chopsticks, beef tartare with just the right amount of fire, and dumplings you want to live inside. There was a bit of a communication hiccup involving sake. We ordered one carafe, two appeared. At first, we thought, “How generous!” and then realized it was an error. But the staff handled it gracefully, crediting the second with a quiet smile and zero fuss. The space is moody and chic, with a sleek palette and soft lighting that makes every table feel intimate. It’s stylish without being sterile, and the service, while brisk, was polished and professional. In short: go hungry, order the tasting menu, and leave your phone in your pocket. Gaijin isn’t a place to perform your dinner—it’s a place to devour it.
Adam R — Google review
Delicious food with generous portions and so many amazing flavours. Ama also really enjoyed her mocktail. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it.
Elias K — Google review
We came here for the Michelin guide recommendation, however we were utterly disappointed. We waited more than an hour for our main courses. When the time came for them to come to the table, the waiter came up to us and just said “I took the wrong order” and apologized. We had a pregnant person in our party and the mistaken order was raw fish. The pregnant family member had to wait for more than two hours just to get something to eat. When the food came, it was only okay. Most of the orders came cold anyway.
Melis E — Google review
Great idea, some what dissapointing execution Waguy beef excellent, octopus not suitable for individual bbq at all. Rice was completely destroyed, not even a porridge, but more like smashed. The people seated next to us kept complaining about the bbq as they did NOT do the bbq themselves, but were placed to sit there. Such an awful noise that we were unable to discuss – at all. Great flavours and structures in the starters, but the entire menu – which looked very good on paper – was just too much and some dished raised eyebrows, like why serve a full size portion of noodles with heavy sauce in the middle of the bbq when that alone was enough to fill tummies. Plates were not changed (e.g. between fish and meet) unless we asked to do so. Wet wipes would have been useful. The marinade in one meat was just bad with way too much garlic; why spoil a perfectly good meat with a forced marinade. Service started slow, first meet for bbq after 1 hour, but then in the end we were rushed to finish our eating. We hope that the menu is revised and that the idea will fly one day.
Dr. M — Google review
We ordered the mini tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The waitress recommended Wakayama Lover as a cocktail, I can tell you it was the most delicious cocktail I have ever had and was suprised it was Aperol based!! The food was delicious, a bit longer wait in between the dishes but we didn’t mind at all. The Bulgogi and shrimp was outstanding - so I highly recommend those dishes. The only downside was the noisy atmosphere, which made it harder to have a proper conversation, but it is a very cozy and intimate atmosphere overall. So just be aware if you don’t like louder restaurants.
Ngoc N — Google review
We ordered a set menu (79€/person) plus we added their wine pairing set which made our dining experience extra special. 🙂 It was absolutely delicious! Thinking about the price of the menu, I think its a reasonable price with the variety of dishes you’ve get. Given already that Finland is an expensive country to begin with. But, the quality of the food and overall experience- Its total worth it! 💛 The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. They were attentive to us despite that the restaurant was very busy. I never felt rushed eating which I appreciate very much. I like how they pay attention to us, they offered to refill our rice, change the plates, etc.. 🙂 Just a downside, is the space. Its a bit too crowded. Nonetheless, we would definitely recommend to try this restaurant 💛

Southeast Asian restaurant
Thai restaurant
Restaurant Farang, situated in the heart of the city, offers a spacious and industrial setting for an unforgettable dining experience. The trendy establishment combines Thai and Vietnamese cuisine to create refined seafood dishes that will take your taste buds on a culinary journey through Southeast Asia. With its stylish and modern decor exuding cosmopolitan charm, this restaurant provides a comprehensive dining experience within the historical Kunsthalle Helsinki.
Farang is one of our all-time favorite restaurants, and we keep coming back for a reason. The combination of outstanding food and exceptional service makes every visit a memorable experience. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a wonderfully warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant’s spacious, open layout ensures that even when it’s full, it never feels overcrowded. Despite the inevitable rush, the staff remains composed, creating a relaxed and unhurried dining experience. For those who like to start the evening with a drink, the excellent bar downstairs is a great place to wait or simply enjoy a cocktail before dinner. We always opt for the tasting menu, and it never fails to impress. The food is simply divine – a masterful take on modern Asian fine dining, with perfectly balanced flavors and beautifully crafted dishes. The open kitchen adds to the experience, and the amuse-bouches always complement the menu seamlessly. The drink selection is also top-notch, offering unique and well-curated options. Naturally, in a restaurant of this caliber, prices are on the higher side, but the quality fully justifies the cost. In our opinion, the price-quality ratio is well balanced. One aspect we truly appreciate is the restaurant’s flexibility. Since we typically skip desserts, they’ve always been happy to adjust the menu, replacing dessert with a cocktail or an extra appetizer instead. Farang is a must-visit for lovers of Asian cuisine, as well as couples or friends looking for a refined yet relaxed dining experience. Highly recommended!

We won’t be back. The mystery and uniqueness are gone, replaced by an industrial operation mode. The food is good, but no longer represent a fine dining experience by any standards. There is no service, instead there is a supply chain of waiters lacking competence/interest and observation ability: e.g. cutlery is missing - no one notices unless you say so; or you have sauce on the plate from the previous dish, plate has to be changed, but it doesn’t happen without specifically requesting; while waiting for the rice, the main course got cold - we returned it to the kitchen by ourselves. No initiative. Additionally, there was an odd element inside the meat (pork) - either a VEIN full of blood or a WORM - we never heard back what it was, no one came to tell us. And certainly no one suggested to replace the 50% of the portion we returned due to that element. No information, no talking, nor replacement, the whole episode just vanished. We left wondering… 🤔 Service is limping right from the beginning. The head waitress doesn't look the arriving customer in the eye, doesn't smile. Then, at the table, a waitress came to ask if we were ready to order, I said we would be ready in exactly one minute. She continued her shift, but never came to serve us again, nor did she pass on the information to colleagues. The order was taken by a new waitress, who arrived about 10-15 minutes later. In this kaleidoscope of bad service, one professional person stood out. We were lucky when our table was on her route. She is interested in the customers, creating the experience, she shares knowledge, makes contact, keeps conversation flowing and smiles, she is not just on duty, but works for people and represents her workplace with pride. Thank you, Tien, you were the only professional and saved the dinner! You should be the head waitress in that place to make it better.

The place was really nice. My partner and I arrived in the afternoon, so it wasn’t very busy on a weekday. We went through Amex Dining, and the food was delicious and well-made. The portions were quite small for two, but we ordered a few extra dishes and were satisfied. Overall, very tasty!
Janne F — Google review
Really international vibe in this place! We really enjoyed the classic menu here, and the service was marvelous. Probably best asian food I’ve had.
Kasper H — Google review
Great restaurant, very high quality and great tastes. We reserved a table for two and used the dining by amex experience. Opted for the amex tasting menu with three courses. Our waitress convinced us to take apertivos wich I personally liked. We had to wait a bit too long but our waitress picked that up and offered the apertivos on the house. Great job from her on sensing our situation and atmosphere. The food was amazing. South-east-asian food with lots of taste. Our main dish: lamb red curry had so many layers of taste and the meat was very good. Waitress knew what she was doing, very professional service. Everytime we needed something we got service without callinf for it. I asked for recommendation for a wine with the dessert. I got two different wines to taste and to chose from. Both were totally different from another but still went great with the dessert. This was very good because they acknowledged that people like different tastes. Overall our experience dining at Farang was great and we were very happy with every aspect of our night.

Mixed feeling after leaving. Not really an experience that we expected. First off about the customer service: we had our reservation through Amex dining experience. The first Asian waitress (didn’t ask for her name) came to our table and explained the menu and drinks, all cold, awkward and emotionless, with no eye contact, like I wondered “what was up on the ceiling that she kept looking at when talking to me?”, all that with her arms folded and loosely leaned to the table nearby. No smile, not even a friendly facial expression that one could expect from a professional waitress. And just like that she immediately left our table after explaining about all the options. We felt so unwelcome and was wondering if we were the customers to her. It’s a common sense in the customer service, who does this? One could say that’s her style, right, keep that on other tables, but not while serving my table and on my watch. I didn’t ask or confront her at all because it’s not worth it. I came directly to the shift leader and asked to change the person who waited on my table. That was unacceptable. I paid for the service, I did not ask for free food. I have been to most of the fine dining restaurants in Helsinki and this was the first time that I encountered such customer service with an attitude. I once was a waiter myself and I never did that to any customers ever! I gave the feedback to the shift leader and the other waitress afterwards. And BIG thanks to the second lady who waited on my table instead. Things were so much better and less awkward. About food: We had the tasting menu for Amex plus 2 extra dishes that I also ordered. Had to say, everything was good to my taste, the famed crispy pork was a little too sweet but ok. I forgot to take picture of the last chicken curry and the dessert, probably not in the mood 😅. Overall we were satisfied with those 4 dishes. It was our first time here but not really sure we would come back next time. Hope my review could make some difference ☺️

Probably the best restaurant in Helsinki. Amazing food, incredibly helpful staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. I have a severe peanut allergy but the waitress was very understanding and changed the menu a little bit so I could eat everything. The only minus I can find is that the last main course was really heavy and could have been a bit earlier.
Nuutti L — Google review
If being honest, I would rate this restaurant 3.5/5. The food itself was delicious, and the staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful when it came to recommending dishes. However, considering the price level of the restaurant, our overall experience didn’t fully meet our expectations. The service felt a little slow, especially as the restaurant was not very busy and there seemed to be enough staff available. We ordered one starter to share, two main dishes, and one dessert to share. There may have been a misunderstanding, but our starter was served at the same time as one of the mains, leaving one of us waiting for their dish. Around ten minutes later, the second main arrived, but it was served together with the dessert, which felt a bit confusing. The staff did kindly apologise, but the timing of the courses affected the flow of the meal.

Nestled in the heart of Helsinki's vibrant design district, Café Bar No 9 is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a delightful culinary experience. This charming bistro offers an array of international dishes, from hearty burgers and flavorful stir-fries to comforting pasta options. With its minimalistic yet traditional Nordic decor, the café attracts a trendy crowd eager to enjoy local artwork on display while savoring their meals.
Came here for an early dinner. The place is walkable from the city center. The ambience is nice. The staffs are super friendly and welcoming. We ordered salmon soup and and a Thai soup. The soup were just amazing, the rye bread amazing lathered with generous amount of butter. The combination of the bred and soup was just outstanding. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in Helsinki. Do give it a go.
Satyajit D — Google review
The place was pretty empty when we went there so the atmosphere was quiet. We had to order at the bar and the food came pretty quickly. My friend got the caesar salad and i got the kill bill wokit. The food itself was pretty good but my food tasted like there was absolutely no salt added to it. I had to add salt every 2 bites. But it could be just my taste 🤷‍♀️. Prices were good. The portions were huge for us (and i usually can eat a lot). Overall a nice experience.

Had a great experience at Cafe Bar 9 in Helsinki! I ordered the pasta pesto with fresh spinach, it was absolutely delicious. The staff were super friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. A bit better air conditioning would make it even more comfortable, but overall it’s a lovely spot. Definitely recommended!

Super glad I found this place!! Tried the traditional salmon soup and it was SO YUM! The price is also so much lesser than a restaurant. Staff are very friendly and great atmosphere inside.

This places feels like a canteen, where people on a low budget would go to or students etc. The decor was uninspiring and sad. The one bar man was super busy but quite friendly, he needs more help with taking food/ drink orders and serving drinks. Food service was slow but I’ll try and be positive, that this was because everything was freshly made to order. They do a meal deal, didn’t try it myself. Salmon soup with bread was very good, but the lemon chicken pasta was terrible. Prices were too high when considering the surroundings and food quality

Such good food in Helsinki. Definitely a local gem! We ate there pretty late 9:30pm~ summer sun had messed up our hunger/timing. Salmon soup and salmon pasta were divine. Service was great. Art was cool. Loved it!

Second time visiting and limoncello pasta is maybe one of the best dishes I have eaten. The staff is great and friendly. Only problem with this place (property) is, that when the restaurant is crowded, the noise level goes way too high. Both of the times I visited it felt like my eardrums were going to explode.
Viivi — Google review
A nice, small, and casual restaurant specializing in pasta and noodles. I went there to try the Pollo Limonello pasta — it was delicious with a creamy, tangy flavor, but a bit on the heavier side. The portion was generous, and I couldn’t quite finish it, but I really enjoyed the taste!

Momotoko Yliopistonkatu is a cozy and cute restaurant located near shops and the main street. The place offers delicious and fresh Ramen soup with friendly service. The staff is accommodating, and the atmosphere is cozy and clean. While the portion sizes are perfect, there are also many vegetarian options available on their new menu. The restaurant has been recommended for its tasty food, large portions, and friendly service attitude.
We had the shoyu and tantamen ramen, really flavorful and nice. Staff was friendly. It is not like a sit down place type of restaurant, you order at the bar and you get your own cutlery and water so the prices reflected that, but we really liked that atmosphere!
Ana F — Google review
As an Asian, this was terribly underwhelming 😂 Still a great hot soup fix in winter, but the soup was rather bland - spicy soup was at a 0% spice level, and the meat was wayyyyyy too salty. The egg was really good though!

Decent ramens, friendly service, average prices, clean restaurant. They were out of Miso, so I took the pork belly Tonkotsu; the pork belly was excellent. They also serve beer, but it's quite expensive. Slow cuisine during peak hours.

Superb tonkotsu soup. Thick and probably boiled forever. Loved the pork belly that came with the ramen coz it’s grilled over before serving. The bamboo shoots were well marinated. They tasted sweet and crunchy. Good ramen overall.

Very average taste. Just a little curry sauce, cold toppings. I didn't feel the Japanese hospitality. Staff is not Japanese though.

Mei Lin Sichuan & Vegetarian Restaurant is a hidden gem for those seeking authentic Sichuanese cuisine. With a cozy atmosphere that accommodates around 20 guests, it provides an intimate dining experience perfect for food lovers. The menu features delightful dishes such as dumplings in chili oil, spicy pork intestine noodles, and crispy duck served with pancakes.
Mei Lin offers a true taste of Sichuan cuisine right in Finland, with a menu full of bold, spicy, and aromatic dishes. The restaurant has a cozy yet modern ambiance, making it a great spot for both casual dinners and small gatherings. 🤜 Highly recommend Eggplant in Garlic Sauce for Vegans 🙌👍👍👍
Châu P — Google review
Mei Lin Sichuan in Helsinki is unassuming—plain decor, calm atmosphere, soft ethnic music—but the food speaks loud. I’m no expert in Sichuan cuisine, but the flavors here hit just right. A touch of heat, deep umami, and generous portions make it a solid lunch spot. The eggplant and tofu Sichuan style? A must. No pretense, just damn good food.
Mikhael — Google review
Delicious food and generous portions! We tried several dishes: udon noodles, Sichuan-style eggplant and tofu, mapo tofu, and sweet-and-sour chicken, and every one of them was very tasty. Totally recomended.

Located in a nice neighbourhood area. Pretty close to city centre. Walking distance from stockmann mall. We ordered a few dishes and all turned out to be disappointing. Just dont taste authentic chinese sichuan style. The pork they use for thr dish i ordered is the wrong part of the pork. And taste is off too. So not recommend if you like authentic Sichuan flavour.
Jennifer W — Google review
One of the best Chinese restaurant in Helsinki. Pork dumplings were soft and good. Sweet and sour chicken with rice is tasty. Will visit again !
Chiu Y — Google review
Went here for dinner on a weekday without reservation and we were able to get a table right away. The taste was a proper Sichuan flavor and a good level of asian spiciness. We ordered the chicken chili congqing style, dumpling with chili oil and bakchoy with garlic. Dumplings and bakchoy were delicious!! The chicken however, it was a bit difficult to eat it as there were small pieces of bones everywhere. The flavor was good and tasty, but in the end we didn’t enjoy the chicken as much due to the small bones. The restaurant itself was pretty standard looking, nothing too fancy, leaning towards simple decor but it was totally fine. The service was good, the staff were friendly too.

Sushibar + Wine Freda, located in Helsinki's lively Tehtaankatu street, is a sushi restaurant that perfectly blends the Nordic aesthetic with the art of sushi-making. The concept behind this unique establishment was born from the realization that these two seemingly contrasting elements complement each other harmoniously. To enhance the experience even further, Sushibar+Wine Freda offers a curated selection of organic wines produced by independent makers.
Simple things done very well. High quality fish- especially the local white fish (perch?) was some of the tastiest white fish that I have eaten in a long time. Buttery soft and you can almost imagine the idyllic happy Finnish life that this fish has lived. Service was so warm, helpful and speedy. I appreciated the lean into sweet Marimekko tableware and Finnish decor. A great place for a weary tourist to grab a surprising dinner treat.
Shifali M — Google review
Amazing sushi with guaranteed freshness! The drinks menu was varied from tasty cocktails to teas. They also offered different bowl and pocket options for hungrier humans. My main reason for subtracting a star boils down to some minor stuff like the early closing time, slightly aloof service and lack of desserts. The atmosphere is very artsy chic and the servers carried that same vibe well. Test it out!

Fast and friendly service. Enjoyed my Greens set that had some coriander on some of the pieces. The edamame is a big starter that serves two well.

I had my first sushi in Finland here and what an experience! After my first sushi try in somewhere else I promised myself not to try it ever. However this place change my mind totally. Staff? Super kind Location? Easy access by tram Cleanliness? 10/10 Food quality? Mammamìa! Price? Totally worth it Time in queue? Not that much We started with the soup, the ingredients were fresh and the taste was perfect. Then I continued with California Maki👌🏻 I strongly recommend everyone who hesitate to try Sushi to start from this place.

I love Sushibar+wine in any case. I love the environment. The staff was a group of beautiful women who accommodate alternative cocktail options for us. Ravintola Kamome is a Japanese-inspired restaurant located in the trendy design district of Punavuori in Helsinki. The owner, Hideki Ogawa, who has been a resident of Helsinki for over two decades, opened the restaurant to bridge Finnish and Japanese cultures through food and hospitality. The decor reflects a blend of simple Nordic design with high-quality materials that pay homage to both cultures. The menu features nourishing ramen with seven varieties, including the refreshing yuzu-shio.
Delicious meal with extremely fresh fish! Charming interior and beautiful dishes. Several vegetarian options such as tofu, mushrooms, and vegetable based items. If you eat fish, the salmon is absolutely outstanding, both raw and grilled. We enjoyed dinner here during our visit to Helsinki. Parents were thrilled to eat here and have wanted to try the food since they watched the movie Kamome Diner in 2006. Highly recommend this spot for authentic Japanese food!

The food was delicious, and I highly recommend trying the Houjicha tea—it has a beautifully balanced and light flavor. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was impressively fast. We asked for the bill, and the staff brought it over within 15 seconds, which was a nice touch. 😊
Bảo  — Google review
The food was edible. But to my taste buds did not taste like anything. I don't really understand why it is so popular. We tried both the 5 course tasting menu and ordered 6 dishes from the menu, and we did not particularly like anything. There is plenty of other Izakayas near by with much more tasty food. Service was friendly and the atmosphere nice.
Christopher H — Google review
Deserves an extra star for atmosphere. I got the 10-course dinner for my birthday. Each portion size was small, which is good for being able to taste many different dishes without stuffing yourself. The courses took about 1.5 hours to come out, so don't get it if you're in a rush. Take your time, relax, and enjoy the calm ambient piano music. The umeshu sampler was also worth it, with 8 distinct varieties unique in taste and texture. This Izakaya takes the cake for authentic Japanese vibes in Helsinki. It's easy to see why the clientele is mostly Japanese.
Joseph N — Google review
Kamome is a true gem for anyone who genuinely wants to experience authentic Japanese cuisine! The prices here are very reasonable and significantly lower than in most Japanese restaurants in Helsinki. The food is simply amazing — fresh ingredients, generous portions, and an authentic taste that brings the atmosphere of Japan to life. I especially recommend trying the onigiri and buns, and for those unfamiliar with Japanese culture, I highly suggest watching the film Kamome. The restaurant’s interior is also worth mentioning — cozy, with pleasant music, making the experience even more comfortable and atmospheric. Be sure to visit for a true taste of Japan 🇯🇵

Stumbled across this place on my first stroll - located inside the food market! Highly recommend, their food is incredibly good, served fresh and fast. I had the noodles with salmon (very good portion, lots of fish) and the chicken dumplings. Definitely worth a visit!

We went to this restaurant because it was highly recommended. We ordered a dish with salmon and noodles. The dish basically consisted of a lot of noodles, mayonnaise and a small piece of salmon. It wasn't bad, but paying 15 euros for 90% noodles was a mistake. For this reason, I don't recommend it and I won't go back to this restaurant. Since we went late in the day, I even thought there were no more ingredients.

Good sushi and fish salad (fish salad set), boring miso soup with almost no ingredients. Well, what can you expect for 1€? The service only told me that there is free green tea with the lunch menu, after I ordered a coke. The free tea although was also nothing special. Order at the counter.

Despite its somewhat hidden location, No5 Coffee has earned a reputation as one of the city's best Vietnamese restaurants.
Although being a bit hidden, it is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in town. Their food is as close as you can get to native Vietnamese cuisine. The owners are so kind and friendly. They even went out of their way to offer us some oranges after our meal. The space for dine in is a bit small. There are enough places for about 25 people at a time. Most people take away though so this is usually not a problem.

We walked into this restaurant hoping we'd have a good warm soup/stew on a cold day. All I can say is that it was the best decision we made. The food was extraordinarily tasty. The menu is quite short but there's enough variety as all main dishes can be ordered with a different sources of protein (beef, shrimp, chicken, tofu, pork). Some dishes also come in 3 different spice levels. We had the 2/3 spiciness level and it was more than enough. The restaurant is rather small but the service is really quick. Our waiters were really friendly. Water in a jug was on the house.

Amazing handpulled noodle place in Helsinki! Delicious flavor, friendly service, big portion price/quantity/quality ratio is great! The fried dry noodle was the best! The dumplings were delicious too. If you can handle spicy food well, I’d suggest getting the level 3 spiciness. It’s not too spicy that you’d sweat even though it’s the most spicy level. Would come again when we visit Helsinki next time.

Great atmosphere, service and noodles 🍜 My dish was the braised beef noodle soup. The broth was flavourful, the noodles were soft yet not overcooked. I chose the rice noodles as a gluten free option. And the beef was soft as well as the proper beef type for the dish. My friends had the DanDan dish with pork with the regular egg noodles. Which was also very tasty and rich. We orderd various side dishes and my faves were the cucumber with chilli oil, and the black fungus. The ambience of the Restaurant is inviting, colorful. With mural paintings in the walls and interesting decor details. It has become now one of my favourite places to go to for a delicious noodle soup meal.

The menu offers creative Asian fusion dishes with a Vietnamese twist that surprises and delights diners. The portions are perfect for sharing alongside a diverse selection of sake and cocktails. The best Asian fine dinning restaurant I have tasted so far in Helsinki! Friendly staff and very good food and wine pairing. We are all impressed
Lisha D — Google review
Amazing fusion restaurant with a truly creative menu! Every dish is an original creation by the chef you won’t find these anywhere else. The cuisine blends different styles and ingredients in surprising but delicious ways. The waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He explained the concept behind each dish, including how to eat it properly to get the best flavors. It made the experience really special and interactive.

Cozy and tastefully decorated Asian fusion restaurant in Punavuori. Loved the attention to detail to make guests feel welcome. The food was absolutely delicious and so innovative - I loved every dish! The flavours of some of the Vietnamese fusion dishes were nostalgic of flavours I grew up with, but elevated in a creative style. Excellent service as well - the staff were so friendly, kind, and attentive. I can't wait to come back!

Absolutely loved this place! The cocktails were next level, especially the Dir-Tea, which was perfectly crafted and dangerously good. The food is a real fusion experience… bold flavors, beautifully balanced, and clearly made with creativity and care. There were plenty of vegan and gluten free options. Can’t wait to come back!
Moritz L — Google review
Creative & caring team. Returned 2nd time and absolutely happy about the food and the surprise taste experience. Chefs and team deserve more recognition.
KT N — Google review
Izakaya is a place where people come together to share good food and conversation, and this spot delivers exactly that. The kitchen sends out beautifully crafted dishes with vibrant colors and bold flavors—some familiar, others pleasantly unexpected. Each bite sparks curiosity, making you wonder about the ingredients and techniques behind it. If you ask, you’ll find the answers, but half the fun is in guessing. It’s a well-balanced mix of flavors and textures that keeps things interesting. Don’t miss their creative cocktails either. Karppi is a place for those who enjoy exploring new tastes and a little surprise on their plate.
Otto M — Google review
An exceptional experience. Tasty, fresh ingredients, new twists and innovations, combined to a really friendly and attentative service. With decent prices. Highly recommended. Special thanks for the informative and funny menu.

Cute and delicious Asian fusion restaurant in the design district! The service was amazing, each dish was described as they were served and the flavours of each dish were unique but delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try all the other dishes!

Gourmet grocery store
Food Market Herkku is a high-end grocery store in Helsinki City Centre. It has a wide selection of foods, wines, and beers from all over the world.
Our tour guide recommended this place and toured it to be the best salmon soup in all of Europe! It didn’t disappoint. Ok, maybe not the best in Europe but definitely very very good. We did the sets that came with the soup and salmon or soup with pork. Both are awesome. Highly recommend!

The bistro inside offers amazing food and beer. We tried the Catch of The Day (salmon) and Butcher’s Corner, and both (also the potatoes) taste crazily good!

Biggest variety of fresh breads I've seen in finland. Modern and easy to navigate grocery store for all daily needs.
Jimi — Google review
We bought lunch at the restaurant. It cost 13.70 euros and had two options, 1 a vegetarian meal the other meat. It icluded soup, bread, salad and coffee or tea. Delicious and good value.
Nick W — Google review
Try the fish soup at bistro. Slightly under 10 euros and super tasty. Same price as the ones in the tents near the pier but so much tastier. Staff are super friendly too. There isn’t an English menu but they translated everything so kindly!

Hidden Bistro gem at basement 1. Salmon soup comes in 2 sizes and the large size was sufficient for my family of three to share. Had the pork and we enjoyed watching the chef prepare the dish from slicing the apples to mixing the salad. Staff were fast, efficient and friendly.

Izakaya restaurant
Sake Bar & Izakaya is a charming and intimate spot that serves up a variety of artisanal sake and Japanese izakaya-style dishes. The menu features a rotating selection of shareable snacks and small plates, all designed to complement the drinks on offer. Customers praise the authentic izakaya atmosphere and inventive dishes like udon noodle carbonara, which put a local twist on traditional Japanese flavors.
You could easily spend 100€ here just enjoying their sake collection and finger food. It’s a typical small bistro, but they’re more focused on getting you to try out their sake than the food. But don’t get me wrong, the food is still superb and delicious! They grill the chicken over charcoal instead of using an electric grill, giving it a simple yet tasty flavor.
Yulie A — Google review
After 9 yearly holidays in Japan, I consider myself a connoisseur. Came here with my company, and I absolutely loved it. The food is really good, simple and fusion. Sake was excellent. We were a large group so we privatized the whole place. It's pretty small so it got very noisy. But the food and sake made up for that. Ps: koshihikari could have been fluffier. Well done!
Giovanni B — Google review
Drinks: We tried a few sakes and cocktails, but unfortunately, the setup was far from professional. There isn’t even a proper bar—drinks were prepared by the waitress in a corner of the shop using ice from grocery store bags. If you’re expecting a real bar experience, you’ll likely be disappointed. Food: The flavors were very basic. While the portion sizes follow typical Izakaya standards (small sharing plates), the prices are close to what you’d expect at a fine dining restaurant—without the quality, ambiance, or even a proper restaurant license to justify it. Overall: Not recommended, especially if you’re looking for an authentic Izakaya dining experience.
Isabella — Google review
A cozy izakaya bar with a selection of small dishes. The prices are on the higher side, making it more suitable for those looking to enjoy drinks with a light bite rather than a full meal. Nice spot for a casual night out and chat!
Kai N — Google review
Absolutely adorable and cute little Izakaya. It is like a trip to Japan. Excellent food, for a proper dinner I would not recommend leas than the 10-course meal and of course pair it with sake. Meeting Sergey the sake-fish is a must ;)
Ase N — Google review
Really lovely small place, with great sake and food. Very cozy and nice atmosphere, with friendly and helpful staff. And huge plus, we could get the food vegetarian and glutenfree. The Okonomiaki was on on point!
Ketchup S — Google review
Excellent place! The food is absolutely delicious, and they have a huge selection of sake. I highly recommend trying the fruity sake — it’s amazing!

We got the dinner 7 course menu, it was delightful. Each dish has a different flavour combination and we especially liked the chicken and tuna tartar. It is a small, cozy restaurant with great service and very interesting sake cocktails. We will be back!

Momotoko Freda is a delightful haven for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine, particularly renowned for its handcrafted ramen. The restaurant takes pride in its slow-cooked broths and traditional ingredients, offering an array of dishes that include donburis and baos alongside their signature ramen. With three locations in Helsinki's city center, Momotoko has become a go-to spot for both locals and visitors alike.
We had ramen from the late lunch menu with great value for money! Super cool interior and we loved the included tea and coffee! Also the staff was very nice and welcoming.

such a perfect ramen place. please open it again, I really want to eat more.

The Vegan Bao is fantastic and would rate it 5 stars along with the service and restaurant layout. Music is at a good volume and place super clean. The vegetarian Miso ramen was salty AF so couldn’t drink the broth but the fillings were delicious.
Kat S — Google review
Great ramen. Lots of flavor and good portion size. Very nice interior. Also great testing signature beer made by micro brewery from Finland.
Roope K — Google review
I really appreciate how the menu designed, it really helps me to order the food. The taste is awesome and the price is reasonable! I like it a lot!
Chenchen — Google review
Good customer service. Got greeted with smile, instant plus. Tea and coffee free serving, also extra plus. Noting like a green tea after some ramen. As for ramen itself, this is why I had to give 3 stars. I ordered tantanmen. The meat is exellent. Flavourful and juicy. It's the broth that made me tilt my head. I expected something a bit more spicy, as the broth colour red suggests. It was also bland for my taste. Needed more salt. But hey, healtheir for you I guess.
Jack J — Google review
One of the most delicious ramens in the city. Huge portion and great service. 🤤 The restaurant is already at 3 locations in Helsinki city centre. If you order the chili ramen, expect a really spicy one, it's awesome!

Japanese restaurant
Onigiri Musubi is a charming eatery that specializes in crafting handmade Japanese onigiri rice balls, a beloved street food celebrated for its delightful sour and salty fillings. The menu is ever-evolving, reflecting seasonal ingredients and market availability, which adds an exciting twist to each visit. Under the expert guidance of sushi chef Ryosuke Sakai, this cozy spot offers quick takeout options alongside comforting miso soups packed with fresh vegetables like carrots and mushrooms.
If you are feeling peckish and need something small to eat on the go, definitely get an Onigiri here. I ordered a Salmon Nanban+Coriander+Black Rice, and the owner made it on demand, which was warm and fresh!
Edlyn S — Google review
Musubi is somewhat overrated. It’s a nice little café, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Although it’s open from 10 AM to 6 PM, most items are usually sold out by 2 PM, so if you want to try their onigiri, you’ll have to keep an eye on their Instagram and time your visit right. When I walked in, the owner completely ignored me, even though there were only three other customers inside whom he was actively serving. He didn’t even say hello, which left a bad impression. I had read a lot of good things about this place and was really looking forward to trying the onigiri, but by 1 PM, only two out of ten flavors were left. The price - €6 per piece - seems a bit steep. Maybe that’s just the reality of Helsinki, but I think €4 would have been much more reasonable. The onigiri tasted like simple homemade ones- fresh and made with good ingredients, but nothing exceptional. I had planned to sit inside and try the miso soup as well, but there were no available seats, so I had to leave. Overall, I wouldn’t make a special trip here just for the onigiri, unless you really want to support this small business.
Anna K — Google review
The onigiris are amazing and so fresh! The service is amazing with lovely patient staff. I usually take my onigiris to go, but there is plenty of seating at the restaurant even though it is small.
Charlie — Google review
A lovely lunch that keep you full! We ordered 4 different options to try and they were all very good. The place is quite small, so it might be a good idea to avoid peak lunchtime. We came around 13, which was perfect
Trang L — Google review
Super fresh onigiris at really decent prices! We got free green tea which was such a nice (and refreshing) surprise. The owners are absolutely lovely too, making the whole experience even better. Can’t wait to come back for lunch sometime!
Ly H — Google review
Very nice! We went for the miso+2onigiri set for each of us and it was very tasty. Would 100% recommend
Carles M — Google review
Musubi is a small, charming spot with just a few seats inside. The onigiris were absolutely delicious! Fresh, well-seasoned, and just like the ones you'd find in Japan. The staff was also very friendly. A hidden gem worth stopping by for a quick, tasty bite!
Sini N — Google review
Amazing fresh onigiris. Super awesome that they have vegan options. I loved the pickled plum onigiri. Very popular, so there's a wait sometimes. Well worth it though!

Sri Nakhon Restaurant is a Thai restaurant in Helsinki that offers delicious food with various options to choose from. The staff speaks excellent English and provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere for diners. The menu includes vegetarian options, ensuring no shellfish, chicken, or beef broth is used in the cooking. Customers have praised the affordable prices and expressed their intention to visit multiple times to taste the entire menu due to their positive dining experiences.
We weren’t sure if we could ask for vegetarian options, we aren’t strict vegan but didn’t want any shellfish/sauce, chicken or beef broth used in cooking, and I’m not crazy about tofu. We were unexpectedly in a big rush the night in question and didn’t have time to walk or tram to another part of Helsinki so we relationship looked at our take away options near our Airbnb and wow we were thrilled with the results ! First off, the lady helping us spoke excellent English, a huge relief for us in this situation. Secondly she assured us that all our requests were no problem, only 20 minutes later we were out the door with some of the best vegetarian coconut milk soup, vegetarian red curry, tofu pad Thai with egg for my husband, and a rice ball dessert in coconut milk that I used to get often in the states and missed : “Bua loi with coconut milk” everything was so tasty and tasted truly vegetarian to us both. Notably for the first time since moving to Finland my request for “ extra spicy” was taken to heart to my delight and I was happily wiping my nose with joy! They take your request seriously unlike every other restaurant we’ve tried in Finland which serves my “level 10 extra spicy” at what I considered a “2” in the US. So do be careful to really order a true level of spicy assuming that the most spicy is really too spicy for you if your used to mild ( watered down flavor for the natives here) taste. The quality, speed, attention to our special requirements and reasonable price makes me very grateful for this ravintola being so close to us at during our visit and it’s why I must recommend it to you! Give them a chance, I doubt you’ll be sorry.
Laraine K — Google review
The restaurant has a funky odour inside so I always prefer take away. Foods are below average. Taste is not the best and portion is quite small for the price. Curry sauce is too watery, probably because they didn't use enough coconut milk to thicken it. Phad thai tastes just like a regular wok noodles meal.
Minh L — Google review
Super delicious food for good price. Just the beer was not really tasty :-(
