The Old Market Hall in Helsinki is a historic 19th-century venue located near the iconic Market Square. It offers a unique shopping experience with shops and stalls selling traditional Finnish specialties, including local cheeses, seafood, fruits, vegetables, cakes, spices, teas, and coffee. Adjacent to where fishing boats dock, visitors can sample fresh seafood in a historic atmosphere. The vibrant Market Square nearby features bustling activity with stalls offering fresh produce and handmade crafts.
The Old Market Hall in Helsinki, Finland, was one of our first stops right after arriving on the 2-hour ferry from Tallinn, and we truly enjoyed every moment. It’s fascinating to see so many international flavors under one roof, from Vietnamese classics to Turkish coffee, from fresh fish and seafood to unique souvenirs like deer horns and furs. There are dozens of small shops to explore one by one, each with its own charm. Absolutely recommended!!
Kalyoner — Google review
Restored fish market (I am assuming) that now houses individual food stalls. We were there pretty early so it wasn't busy. There are free toilets in the back. We bought a delicious lingonberry mini pie. It's right on the water, near the ferry that takes you to Suomenlinna, a popular tourist destination. I imagine that the hall is jam packed during the day. There are hot prepared, packaged, and to go options available.
J P — Google review
The Old Market Hall is a fantastic place to explore and experience Helsinki’s local flavors. The hall is full of character, with plenty of stalls offering fresh produce, fish, baked goods, and traditional Finnish treats. The atmosphere is lively but not overwhelming, and it’s a great spot to grab a snack or just soak in the local culture. A must-visit for food lovers and anyone who wants a taste of authentic Helsinki!
Jack F — Google review
The Old Market Hall is a gem in Helsinki — full of charm, history, and flavor. The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, with beautiful old architecture and rows of stalls offering everything from fresh seafood and pastries to Finnish delicacies and local treats. It’s a perfect spot to wander and sample traditional foods. A great mix of authentic culture and everyday life, and a must-visit when exploring the city.
William O — Google review
I visited the Old Market Hall (Vanha Kauppahalli) in Helsinki this August, and it quickly became one of my favorite stops in the city. The market is small but full of character, with a warm atmosphere that blends history and local flavor. Walking through the wooden stalls, I found an incredible selection of fresh fish, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, and other Finnish specialties. One highlight I absolutely have to mention is the traditional Finnish salmon soup (lohikeitto). It’s rich, creamy, and comforting – exactly the kind of dish that makes you feel like you’ve tasted something truly local. Sitting down with a bowl while watching the bustle of the market felt like stepping into the heart of Helsinki’s food culture. Whether you’re after a quick bite, unique local products, or simply a cozy place to explore, the Old Market Hall is a must-visit. It’s the perfect spot to experience authentic Finnish flavors right by the harbor.
Kalina M — Google review
Beautiful historic market with a great atmosphere. Nice place to try Finnish specialties like smoked salmon, reindeer meat, and pastries. A bit small and prices can be high, but worth visiting for the experience.
Anwar S — Google review
This hall was so cute! From cafes, quick bites, fresh meat, caviar, and bathrooms. What more could you ask for. We tried the popcorn coffee which was amazing and a stuffed baked potato. One of the highlight locations on our trip.
Kelli D — Google review
Must visit when in Helsinki! Definitely try the Eriksson fish stall for the best salmon and lobster soup and their amazing fish tapas. 🦞 Great souvenirs as well such a reindeer jerky, caviar and licorice. There are some good coffee spots too! ☕️

Hakaniemi Market Square is a bustling hub where you can find everything from fresh local produce to trendy clothing. In addition to the usual city attractions, there are charming curiosity shops, flea markets, and antique stores offering unique souvenirs. The market features daily stalls selling affordable food for on-site dining or takeout, including must-try dishes like fried fish and salmon.
This small market is a must-visit! Find fresh seafood, meats, produce, pastries, sweets, and ready-to-eat meals. Don't miss the Finnish salmon soup and smoked salmon! It's the perfect place to pick up souvenirs like cute mittens and socks. A great spot for a leisurely stroll and a tasty treat."
HummingbirdS — Google review
A buzzing square, flea market by the harbour. The outdoor stall vendors selling variety of souvenir items, reindeer fur, handicrafts , traditional food, fresh fruits & vegetables, coffee and snacks stalls and lots more to see and buy. There's a ferry connection to Suomenlinna Fortress island and zoo from the Market Square.
Maria S — Google review
Not the most special square in town. What makes it cute, and unique to others, is the little wine bar in the shades, and the ”Kahvi Siskot” big tent who organizes different kinds of live programs on weekends around the year.
Nicolas D — Google review
Amazing place with lots of variety in food, vegetables, meats and other kind of things. Everything is very expensive. You can buy these things at half rate at supermarket but I do understand that the quality is definitely high end, fresh produce. I bought backlava which was £2 a piece and cookies were for £2.50 per piece. 🙈
Khushboo G — Google review
Says here it's closed on Sundays, but was there last Sunday and there were lots of stalls, mainly clothes and winter decorations, but also some food stalls. Conversely, there were only about 5 or 6 stalls out on the Saturday. I guess it may change with the seasons!

Historic Sites
Suomenlinna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an island fortress accessible only by ferry. This historic district is home to around 800 residents and features a shop, hospital, library, and elementary school. The island's significance makes it an attractive area for young people and creatives due to its galleries and inspiring ocean surroundings.
Great little trip from the city. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes. Suomenlinna is a great place to walk around and explore. It has some beautiful views and is filled with a lot of history. They have a couple cafes where you can grab treats/drinks while you wait for the ferry back. Definitely something to add it to your itinerary.
Widnelly C — Google review
If you love history and nature, this is a "must visit" for you. Take a ride on a ferry, ca 15 min from Helsinki and spend a day on this island. I suggest taking your time, the whole day, if you want to explore the island. There are cafes and restaurants, if you get tired or hungry. There is a supermarket, where you can get coffee and warm pastries. There are museums which are defenitely worth visiting. Walk along the shore and enjoy amazing views. Go explore the tunnels for sure, if you dare. Have a picnic if you wish. There are so many things you can do and see. The guide is also available. WCs are everywhere. It is easy to spend the whole day there and swith off the rest of the world.
Julia M — Google review
This was a really nice way to spend half a day in Helsinki! Good to reach by public transport ferry. The island is quite nice and green, pretty quiet this time of year already as well but many things to see.
Anna ( — Google review
Nice trip by ferry. Views by ferry are very nice. Castle itself is a nice place to walk around in quite serene place. This place is of historical importance otherwise not much to see. Ferry itself is cheap at 3.2 Euro for a ticket that is good for 90 minutes, so one may be able to a return trip using a single ticket.
Ramesh G — Google review
I had heard great things about Suomenlinna and I wasn’t disappointed! Such an adorable little island. It is filled with history and just lovely to walk around. Such easy access to get to, you don’t want to miss this on your next visit in Helsinki:)
Helena R — Google review
Frequent ferris daily to reach the island. Enjoy the tranquility time travel walk. We arrived there before daybreak, the unmanned visiter information center was open, supplying warmth, wifi, toilets and maps.
Lihao L — Google review
Suomenlinna is an incredible place to explore and soak up Finnish history. The island is full of historic fortifications, museums, and scenic walking paths, with stunning views of the sea and Helsinki’s harbor. It’s peaceful and easy to wander around, with plenty of spots to relax and take photos. Perfect for a day trip, whether you’re interested in history, nature, or just enjoying a unique part of Helsinki. Highly recommended! Also the ferry’s to and from the island are efficient and come very often. Also free with the HSL transport ticket!
Jack F — Google review
Truely amazing tourist destination in the whole of scandenavia. The history behind the whole architecture itslef is worth knowing, especially if you have interest in the history. This is situated in the distance of 40mns ferry ride from the Helsinki boat jetty where all the cruise and ferries start. There js option to pre-book ypur ticket and also to buy tickets from the counter. If you have the Helsinki travel card, it also includes thr trip to sume lina fortress. Once you reach there you can go to the tourist helpdesk and get the map of the area and then take your time and walk and stroll all the way around.there is no time limit but be wary of the boat timings to ensure that you dont watse time waiting for the ferry.

Cathedral
Christian church
Helsinki Cathedral, designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, is a grand neoclassical landmark with an iconic green dome. Located in the heart of Helsinki at Senate Square, it attracts both locals and tourists throughout the day. The cathedral's gleaming-white facade stands out against the cityscape and is particularly striking when illuminated at night. With its towering central dome and four smaller surrounding domes, this iconic structure took over 20 years to build and was completed in 1852.
The cathedral is beautiful on the outside and very minimalistic but elegant on the inside. During my visit, an organ concert took place, which was wonderful. However, what I loved the most was the crypt, where there was also an art exhibition. The lighting in the crypt makes the place feel otherwordly and the atmosphere is very serene. Whoever visits the cathedral ought to visit the crypt as well, as it offers a very different perspective.
Veronica E — Google review
Beautiful church. Unfortunately, it was being renovated on the exterior when I visited... so that took away from the overall astetics. Also, the inside was a little stark compared to other cathedrals I've visited in Europe, but I still think it's worth a visit if you are in Helsinki.
Paul C — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral is one of those landmarks that instantly takes your breath away. Standing tall above Senate Square, the white neoclassical façade with its green domes is iconic from every angle — whether you see it from the harbor, the square, or climbing up the grand steps. Inside, the cathedral is calm and minimalist, a beautiful contrast to its imposing exterior. The high ceilings and soft natural light create a sense of quiet majesty, and it feels more like a space for reflection than decoration. The views from the steps are also worth it — you can look out across the city and the harbor, making it a perfect photo spot. It’s free to enter, easy to reach in the heart of Helsinki, and honestly a must-see whether you’re into architecture, photography, or just soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
Louie F — Google review
Beautiful cathedral! Make sure to also visit the nearby Uspenski Cathedral. Unfortunately, this one was under construction, so we couldn’t experience it fully, but the restoration work was covered nicely, giving a good sense of its full appearance. The interior was lovely — definitely a must-see if you’re already in Helsinki!
Ryan K — Google review
It was under construction, but still a sight and experience to behold! I recommend as a visit. My family and I enjoyed it. Outside near the church is great space to walk around and nearby restaurants to eat.
Linda N — Google review
We had a special experience visiting Helsinki Cathedral as they were displaying Luke Jerram’s MARS within the cathedral. Cathedral is beautiful in itself but seeing the scaled replica of Mars with the sound track made for a unique experience. The cathedral is something to see when visiting Helsinki
Andrea D — Google review
It was a pleasant tourist attraction with a large square. Regrettably, several areas were undergoing renovation during our visit. However, there were still a considerable number of tourists present.
Tony C — Google review
Had to wait for it to open at 12:00 on Sunday. There was a 5 euro charge to get in but worth it for the 'eerie but special art experience on this occasion'. Helsinki Cathedral, located in the heart of Finland’s capital, is one of the most iconic landmarks. Some renovation work was taking place but its elegant white facade, grand steps, and green domed roof make it a striking feature of Helsinki’s skyline. The interior is minimalist so the Mars exhibition makes it a special experience. (Oct-2025)

Senate Square is a grand public space in Helsinki, showcasing impressive neoclassical architecture and serving as the focal point of the city's political, religious, and academic life. The square features the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, and Helsinki University's main building. It was completed in 1852 to honor Tsar Nicholas of Russia and is a key element of Engel's grand city plan. Nearby, the Tori Quarter offers modern amenities within revitalized neoclassical buildings.
It’s indeed a beautiful church, in the centre of the city. Was undergoing renovations in back portion of the church. Basement has a cafe and exhibition space, and brick styled (entrance from a separate way), though can also enter from inside of the church.
Dr. R — Google review
I mean it’s a square alright. Very nice buildings around. Obviously topped by the big dog, namely the Helsinki cathedral. No fee to enter obviously, it’s a public area. The downside was that there was work ongoing in the cathedral which kind of dulls the photos but hey, it was still great
Jjj M — Google review
Visited Senate Square during our time in Helsinki 🇫🇮 — it’s one of the main tourist spots in the city and the starting point for the hop-on hop-off bus 🚌. The square is clean, spacious, and offers a stunning view of the iconic Helsinki Cathedral ⛪️. A beautiful place to sit, take photos, and soak in the city’s calm charm. Definitely a must-visit! 🌤️
YG T — Google review
We did the introduction walking tour of the gpsmycity, the tour was 3.1km in length and took us a few hours to complete, including taking pictures and stops. The tour started right here at the square and and ended at the Temppeliaukio Rock Church. It was a good introduction and the scenery was marvelous.
Patrick X — Google review
Helsinki, this is one of my favourite places with many historical buildings to visit. İn fact my favorite, the square itself is great for sits outside if the weather allows. Many restaurants around.During my visit, the weather was sunny and a bit windy.
W B — Google review
Visited Senaatintori, the historic heart of Helsinki, but unfortunately much of the square was under renovation during our visit. The main cathedral and surrounding buildings were partially covered with a temporary facade, which made it hard to fully appreciate the architecture. The square itself is spacious and historically significant, and it would normally be a stunning spot to admire Helsinki Cathedral, government buildings, and cobblestone layout. Worth visiting if you’re in the area, but be aware that the view may be obstructed during renovations.
SY — Google review
This is the main square in Helsinki. It’s not very big but it’s definitely a must see. Apart from the statue of Alexander II you can see the most important buildings of the city from here.

Esplanadi Park, established in 1812, is a picturesque green space with tree-lined avenues and a stage for live music performances. Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, the park features sculptures, flowerbeds, and a vibrant atmosphere with ice cream vendors, locals relaxing on the grass, buskers, and market-style stalls during warmer months. It is also home to Kappeli, one of Helsinki's oldest restaurants serving classic Finnish cuisine.
Clean park with lots of people just relaxing or taking a break from work. There’s a nice open area where everyone can gather to enjoy a concert (Depends on the day of the week as well). There are many seagulls here so you might not want to bring food.
Yingying — Google review
Big and beautiful park. One of the most beautiful places to walk in Helsinki and is incredibly central. You can go nearly anywhere from this park and Biennial pieces can be seen here. The history of the park could be found in the pictures i provided which is pretty interesting.

Central Boulevard park with some local artists being featured and some live performances. There are plenty of ice cream stands lining the boulevard as you walk through and it is very scenic with many green plants. Excellent when it is nice out. Still pretty good when it is not.

A lovely experience. Sit and watch, listen to live music, hear Helsinki around you, vibrant and full of life. A beautiful city park.

Our group of 10 strolled through this park, entertainment venue, and sculpture collection twice. The greenery is great for breathing fresh air, sitting in the benches or reading the history of the park. I enjoyed the statues
Toni T — Google review
Located in the heart of Helsinki, this area is surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants. You can visit Stockmann, a large nearby mall, or stop by Starbucks or the Moomin Shop. There’s also an Arabica store where you can find some cute Moomin-themed items. A great place to explore and enjoy the city’s atmosphere!
Ryan K — Google review
Esplanade Park is a very popular small park in the city centre of Helsinki. At the other end of the park there is famous Swedish Theater with its restaurants, and at the other end there is even more famous restaurant Kappeli. On a beautiful summer day, Esplanade Park is full of people sitting there, eating ice cream or drinking a beer or a cola and enjoying Finland's all too short summer.
Hannu T — Google review
Esplanadi is a lovely spot right in the heart of Tampere. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, as it is clean, well kept, and full of life during the summer months. There is a good balance between green space and places to sit and relax, which makes it ideal for a coffee break or simply watching people go by. The location is perfect too, with shops nearby and close to the main attractions. I give it 4 stars mainly because although it is beautiful, it can become quite crowded during the busiest hours, which slightly affects the peaceful vibe. Still, it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the city.

Fresh food market
Hakaniemen Kauppahalli is a traditional 6-day food market located in Helsinki, Finland. It offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor stalls selling fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, and other local products. Visitors can experience the Finnish food culture by sampling smoked ham, reindeer meat, local cheeses, and Karelian pies. The market hall also features the Urban&Local concept to showcase small businesses.
Hakaniemi Halli is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Helsinki! My visit was an absolute delight, filled with amazing food, unique finds, and a cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home. First, I indulged in a classic Finnish laskiaispulla—a soft, fluffy bun filled with whipped cream and almond paste, topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. Paired with a crispy and nutty pistachio baklava, it was a match made in heaven! To wash it down, I grabbed a bottle of Laitilan O.Pom, a refreshing and slightly tangy fruit soda that perfectly complemented my sweet treats. The fresh produce section was equally impressive! I picked up some organic vegetables in a charming eco-friendly bag, a testament to Hakaniemi Halli’s commitment to quality and sustainability. The selection was fantastic, with colorful, fresh greens and locally sourced goods. One of the highlights of my visit was discovering the Uusix shop, a treasure trove of handmade and upcycled Finnish crafts. I found a beautifully designed wooden spoon, elegantly wrapped, that showcases the craftsmanship and creativity of Finnish artisans. Overall, Hakaniemi Halli exceeded all expectations! The combination of delicious food, fresh produce, and unique handmade products makes it a must-visit spot in Helsinki. Whether you’re looking for a tasty treat, quality groceries, or a one-of-a-kind souvenir, this market hall has it all. I can’t wait to go back!

It is a good Market Place. When we visited, it was super crowded. do not know it is everyday situation or only on weekends. Very Lively. You can buy all the variety of meats and fish available. All were looking fresh and. But this is 100% not a touristy place. so tourist please avoid as there is literally nothing you can see something special or enjoy.

Warm, authentic Helsinki – loved it! Hakaniemi Market Hall is a truly authentic and welcoming spot in central Helsinki. Recently renovated, it strikes the perfect balance between local charm and light tourism, without feeling commercial. The ground floor is filled with beautifully presented food and craft stalls – fresh produce, fish, spices, coffee, design items. A cosy restaurant sits upstairs, but you’ll also find plenty of snacks and sweet treats scattered throughout. Warm atmosphere, friendly vendors, and a great place to enjoy a taste of everyday Helsinki with style.

Beautiful market hall that sells products ranging from fresh fruit and canned goods to handmade bags and leather products. It's conveniently split between two entire floors of a large building. There's also a small flower shop offering a great variety of plants and flowers. The first floor also has a cafe and several shops that sell freshly-made food. There's plenty of variety making it a good choice for people who are undecided. The top floor has various shops that sell handmade items, including soap bars, bags, and souvenirs.

If you wanna feel something about the traditional market hall atmosphere in Helsinki, you have to go to Hakaniemi. Compared to Old Market Hall close to Market Square, Market Hall in Hakaniemi has kept at least something of the old market hall culture. There are store which sell fresh vegetables, fish, meat... and handicrafts, souveniers etc.; and there are some small restaurants to eat and coffee shops to enjoy. Nice place to visit.

I visited this place on September 27, 2025. It's a really lovely open-air market, but I had a bad experience with this "TRADITIONAL ORIENTAL PASTRIES" shop. The man in the photo charged me €23.92 for just two pieces of baklava. Unfortunately, I was ripped off on my first day in Helsinki.
Victor A — Google review
2 floors, groceries on ground, arts crafts and textiles on second floor. Some cafes with very short menus but reasonably priced. The building is clean and very pretty. Unless you are buying ingredients to cook not sure it's really worth the effort to go to this as it is very small and you will finish it in less then 30 minutes. There is probably 40 stands on each floor. It's nice but really not worth detouring for this.

Hietalahti Market is a popular spot in Helsinki, known for its large outdoor flea market that offers a wide range of new and secondhand items. The 115-year-old redbrick market hall nearby hosts various small restaurants serving diverse cuisines, making it an excellent lunch venue. Additionally, visitors can shop for local breads, cheeses, smoked meats, and fish at the market hall.
The market in Helsinki is a vibrant and colorful place, located right on the waterfront with stunning views. At this market, you can find a wide variety of delicious local specialties. Naturally, fish and seafood are the stars – raw, smoked, or salted, as well as caviar. You’ll also find unique delicacies like reindeer and even bear meat. You can buy these treats to take home or enjoy them right there, which is exactly what I did. The marinated herring I tried was simply outstanding, and paired with a glass of local beer, it was a perfect culinary experience. This market is not just a place to shop, but a chance to immerse yourself in Helsinki’s authentic flavors and atmosphere. Highly recommended for any food lover!

Kaivarin Kanuuna is a popular marketplace located in Helsinki, Finland. While not technically a flea market, it operates as a self-service second-hand shop offering a wide range of items including clothing, accessories, and home goods. The store is known for its diverse selection, featuring everything from vintage pieces to high-quality branded items. Despite its smaller size in the new location, visitors can still find unique treasures at fairly reasonable prices.
It is small but has great items!

I am addicted to this place. I never fail to find beautiful, unique high quality treasures here. Pretty good selection in terms of serving a range of tastes. From Henry Lloyd and Gant to Valentino, Chloé and Yves Saint Laurent all the way to Ivana Helsinki and beautiful vintage pieces. Kamppi Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Silence, is a modern architectural marvel situated in Helsinki's vibrant Kamppi district. Designed by K2S Architects, this elliptical wooden structure stands out amidst the urban landscape. Its minimalist interior and serene ambiance offer visitors a peaceful retreat for silent contemplation and reflection away from the city's hustle and bustle. This unique space provides an opportunity for personal introspection and tranquility within the heart of the bustling city center.
The Kamppi Chapel is a peaceful oasis in the middle of busy Helsinki. The wooden interior and soft lighting make it feel calm and welcoming, perfect for a quiet moment of reflection. A small but unforgettable spot — definitely worth a visit!
Jack F — Google review
Very small Chapel in the centre of Helsinki. Nicely designed mostly wood . Closed on a Sunday which I found odd for a religious building. Inside silence must be observed .
Peter M — Google review
1 | A very interesting chapel in the center of Helsinki, notable for its unusual architectural design. It is made entirely of wood and has received several architectural awards. 2 | Unfortunately, we couldn’t go inside because it was Sunday. Strangely enough, the chapel is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Nevertheless, it is so remarkable that it’s worth seeing even from the outside. 3 | The entrance fee to the chapel is €5. I can’t really say whether it’s worth paying. 4 | The chapel was only opened in 2012, designed by the Finnish architectural studio K2S Architects. It is 11.5 meters high, and the section with the altar has no windows at all.
Petr N — Google review
The Kamppi Chapel, often called the “Chapel of Silence,” is a truly unique experience in the middle of busy Helsinki. The modern wooden architecture is stunning, and stepping inside feels instantly calming — a peaceful escape from the noise of the city. It’s not about religious services but about offering a quiet moment for reflection and stillness. A beautiful example of design meeting purpose, and a must-visit if you want a few minutes of tranquility during your trip.
William O — Google review
Interesting building made from a variety of woods. Inside it is very quiet if you are not inside with rude tourists! You are asked to be silent inside the chapel. It is just the chapel room, we were there maybe 10-15 minutes max so it’s easy to slot into a busy schedule and take a breather.
Jo E — Google review
Cute place to experience a bit of silence. It costs 5€ to enter which I wouldn’t pay to be honest. Included in the Helsinki city pass.
Ella H — Google review
Very nice chapel. Of course, it’s quite a sight externally. €3 it cost to enter, which was fine. It’s a shame that pictures aren’t allowed inside, but it’s very beautiful. Silence must be observed.
Jjj M — Google review
I really enjoyed being inside and experiencing the silence. I even bought a postcard featuring the interior, and now, whenever I want to “ground” myself, I look at it and remember that peaceful quiet. It's truly wonderful. The key to fully enjoying the visit is having other visitors who also respect the silence that everyone contributes to. At one point, a large group of children came in, making noise, rustling, and tapping on their phones. What a relief it was when they finally left and silence returned!

Fresh food market
Kauppatori is a year-round harborside market in Helsinki, offering a vibrant mix of food stalls, handicrafts, and a heated cafe tent during the winter. It provides an authentic Helsinki experience away from tourist crowds. The market square specializes in seasonal Finnish foodstuffs and souvenirs, located on the seafront at the northern end of Etelasatama harbor.
Nice little market at Helsinki - Food prices are about 12 to 20+ Euros. The food was great but the portion is huge for solo traveller. Would recommend to get one for sharing instead. Be careful of the seagulls because they are everywhere so just finish your food in the tent and you should be good.

Kauppatori was the only stop on the hop-on hop-off bus tour that truly felt worth hopping off 😄. Later realized it’s just a short 500m walk from Senate Square! The market is lively even on Mondays, with friendly vendors offering tastings of fresh fish and local food 🐟🍓. A happening place full of energy, and you can also catch the ferry to Suomenlinna Fortress 🚤 from here. Definitely worth a visit in Helsinki 🇫🇮!

Beautiful harbour market which is a mixture of street foods, fresh fruit, ice cream and craft stalls. You can catch a ferry to the local zoo from the harbour and also take sightseeing cruises which are very informative. Whilst at the harbour why not visit the indoor market where you can eat local delicacies or just watch the world pass by. Further along the harbour is the Helsinki wheel which costs around 25 euros a beautiful way to see the city from high up.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Helsinki, Stockmann Helsinki Centre is a historic shopping destination that has been captivating visitors since its opening in 1930. Spanning an impressive 164,000 square feet, this iconic department store offers a delightful blend of local Scandinavian brands and renowned international labels. Shoppers can explore unique selections that are hard to find elsewhere while enjoying exceptional service in a warm atmosphere.
A truly exclusive shopping experience in Helsinki! I visited the Stockmann Department Store as I was desperately searching for a gift. A lovely saleswoman, Ursula, helped me out in every way possible — it was only thanks to Her that I found the ideal gift — a beautiful Coach bag that was perfect for a gift. Absolutely incredible service — easy to talk to and extremely friendly. Definitely coming back for more (especially to the bags section on floor 1A). Sending my best regards to Ursula, Sten

As a child I used to visit Stockmann with my friends. Especially the toy department was a tempting place to spend time and to wonder and test the newest toys. Some years later the music department and the neighbour house's book store were important places to do findings, and finally Stockmann's delicacy (food) department was the best place to buy the most delicious cheeses. Thus, Stockmann with its Academic Bookstore has had its place in my life, and it was somehow exciting to visit there after many years. And after yesterday's Mall of Tripla mess, Stockmann as a traditional department store feels so clear and easy. Almost 100 years old Stockmann is an interesting trip to more traditional shopping centre culture.

Nice for anyone looking for a bit more expensive souvenirs or just wants to shop a bit more high end. Toilets are free and clean. However it gets very full on the weekends, which means you will have to wait ages for the elevator.

Founded in 1862 and located in the historic Argos house with the lovely Renaissance Revival facade, this if the Stockmann flagship store and the largest in the Nordic countries with over 10 floors and 50,000 sq mts of shopping space. You'll find a who's who of retail branch names along with good eateries, coffee shops and a great supermarket. Stockmann is a great shopping destination for locals and a place well worth a visiting for tourists to Helsinki.

Amazing store. It's way too big to do in its entirety, so unless you want to spend all day in there, it's impossible to see and do everything that's in there. My wife enjoyed the "Relove" store, off the ladies' apparel department, where they had used clothing. The store is in the middle of the city so it's very convenient.

A great department store full of all sorts of items from clothes to household goods. It is on the pricey side. It has places to purchase food. There are toilets, nappy changing facilities, and a childcare room. There is free wi-fi. It is currently collaborating with the Moomins. There is a small Moomin pop-up store, a small exhibit, and a Moomin at the entrance. Throughout the year, there will be events on offer, such as a Moomin treasure hunt. They are offering a ten percent discount voucher to tourists. The store is wheelchair accessible. There are lifts to all floors. Some lifts have priority for wheelchair users. There are disabled toilets.

Forum is a bustling shopping and leisure center that spans an entire city block in Helsinki. It houses a wide array of brand name stores, making it a shopper's paradise. Visitors can explore boutiques around Esplanad Park and the Design District, featuring renowned Finnish design names like Artek, Aarikka, Design Forum Finland, Littala, and Marimekko.
Another amazing indoor shopping mall filled with great label making clothes stores, boutique shops, restaurants, and cafes. All under one huge building in the center of the city, next to several transport lines and within walking distance of The Central Railway Station. Again, whenever in Helsinki a must for shopping if one has no idea of where things are at and where to go to find the best places for it. It is really outstanding on many levels, no doubt. As a New Yorker, there are so many luxury items, fashions, and accessories among many delightful products made in Finland and/or designed for the markets specifically here. Especially outdoor gear and equipment et cetera. Like every country has its brand name lines, you will definitely love what is offered here too. Tremendous quality and value!

Great mall in Helsinki. It can be a bit confusing as there are many different entrances and many different ways to get there from Public transit. With the amount of escalators and levels it can be easy to get lost in. Plenty of stores and should be able to find anything you could need.

At Helsinki airport my luggage didn’t arrive with my international connecting flight !! When I arrived in city center main railway station I had to shop for emergency clothes and supplies as I didn’t know when my luggage would arrive. Someone outside the train station pointed me to this department store. On the first floor I asked an employee where I can find men’s clothing and she directed me to upper floor. Give that this is Helsinki, I was somewhat prepared for sticker shock ! Let’s just say that compared to US, be prepared to pay 2 or 3x even for simple stuff which I needed for emergency- couple of T shirts, underwear, socks and a sweater. I was able to find everything but it set me back €80 !! The staff was polite and helpful.

Prime shopping mall in Helsinki. Many restaurants, some of which you can access even after the shops are closed. Bus terminal is on the lower level and there is a direct access to the metro system as well. If you come to Helsinki on public transportation this is a likely place where you come, apart from the train station which is also very close. One stop on the metro or a short walk.

Food really nice but service not so much. We felt really rushed to order first of all even though it wasn't even near the closing time. They don't also have any normal quality coffee, they said they have only filter coffee and when we said that we'll have that then the waitress looked at the coffee pot which was empty and said that it's also not available? She could've made more of some filter coffee for us at least with the dessert, considering we paid quite a lot in here also.

Helsinki Central Station is a bustling hub in the heart of the city, featuring modern architecture and a well-organized interior with various amenities such as coffee shops, restaurants, and bars. The station's platform area is covered with a clear plastic roof, providing shelter but potentially leading to greenhouse-like conditions in the summer. Despite occasional cleanliness issues and encounters with scammers or drunk individuals, the station offers wheelchair-accessible tracks and convenient access to convenience stores and supermarkets on different floors.
The older parts of the station look very beautiful, like in the pictures we often see. Other parts look okay, like most European train stations. Plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. Library and 24 hour supermarket just across the street. Close to trams and lots of interesting places.

We stopped in Helsinki while on a cruise thru the Baltic Sea. We spent the day walking all around the city on a self guided walking tour using google maps. Lots to see here. One stop was at the Helsinki Central Station which is a magnificent structure. Everyone should go see it while in Helsinki.

Helsinki Central Station was originally constructed in the 1860s. However what you see today is an early 20th-century station designed by Eliel Saarinen and is considered a fine example of Finnish Art Nouveau architecture was was en vogue at that time period. Make sure to see the four Lantern Bearers fitted into the station facade. These are the work of Emil Wikström and really nice to see. The station handles around 200,000 daily passengers and is very well positioned within walking distance to the city centre, making it convenient for those travelling into the city from the airport as well as other areas around Finland arriving by train. We recently had a 9 hour layover in Helsinki and enjoyed popping into the city by way of the train between the airport and Helsinki Central Station which is roughly 30 minutes with departures every 10 minutes or so throughout the day. Enjoyed walking around the station to enjoy the building architecture as part of that day trip into the city.

We were in Helsinki for the day on a cruise, and the final stop on our tour was the iconic Helsinki Central Station — and it did not disappoint! Often ranked among the most beautiful train stations in the world, it’s an architectural gem designed by renowned Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen and completed in 1919. The pink granite façade and massive stone figures give it a bold, almost fortress-like elegance that perfectly captures Finnish Art Nouveau style. Even if you're not catching a train, it's worth visiting just to admire the details up close. A striking piece of Helsinki’s architectural identity!

Helsinki Central Station is a true landmark and a gateway to the city. The architecture is stunning, blending history with modern functionality. The station is well-organized, with clear signs and easy access to trains, buses, and the metro. Plenty of shops, cafés, and services make it convenient whether you’re traveling or just passing through. Clean, efficient, and full of life — a great experience every time!

Beautiful station! Well organized and easy to find your train. Great food options, we took the Santa express with VR matkalla and we were very satisfied with our experience. We also took advantage of the luggage storage with VR matkalla and we were happy there is an abundance of lockers for travelers to leave their items while exploring Helsinki before taking their journey by train.

Vintage clothing store
Frida Marina is a vintage clothing store located in the Kallio district of Helsinki. It is a self-service flea market, vintage shop and cafe all under one roof. This store has a wide variety of items to choose from, including ethically sourced secondhand clothing and homewares from around the world.
I loved coming here. I was looking for some souvenirs to bring back to Montreal that a few female associates would enjoy, and seeing as I'm a guy I find it hard to choose things for women. The owner was more than helpful at finding good accessories, bags and broaches that would make good souvenirs / gifts. She knew her wares 100%, all the truly Finnish items and their respective ages. One thing I reallt enjoyed besides the owner's expert knowledge on her wares was the fact that everything in thebplace was neatly organized. I was very pleased with the service offered as well as the prices for the vintage items, even though I paid roughly 1.5x the price on account of the EURO-CAD exchange, I still found the prices to be excellent. So far everyone who's received one of the gifts she helped me choose has thoroughly appreciated it. This place is worth visiting!
Tino S — Google review
Great selected vintage pieces, prices vary greatly with one side of the store providing mostly older (40-70s era pieces) and the other half with 70-90’s era pieces for a lower price. The normal prices, especially on the right side of the shop are on the higher end of vintage but it’s a nice contrast to other kilo style charity shops. The sale was decent. Anyways their selection was beautiful with some interesting Finnish design pieces Included of course.

This is one of the best second hand/vintage store I've been to in Helsinki. You will find very fine vintage clothings here. If they were in my size, I would have bought several pieces. The owner(?) is very kind and friendly, too.
Kyu C — Google review
A lovely flea market with nice selection of all sort of clothing and accessories. Presentation of the various things is made professionally like in a store of this kind usually are expected. I really enjoyed their presentation effort. It looks really professional and beautiful. Even thought this is a flea market but it lookalike modern store of similar kind of merchandise. Prices varied quite much because individual sellers choose their own prices so it's possible to make really good findings here. Atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. Service was grand so nothing to complain here really. Sometimes it's a bit crowded here so it's getting a bit hard to move here but most of the times it's really enjoyable to wander around this establishment and impulse buy things you most likely don't need or even have space for. That's the idea of this place - and my wallet is crying. So overall I strongly recommend to visit here. There's way too much super good looking things to buy and I had no money to spend which caused mental instability and sad face. So be warned if you visit here. This is just too good place for loosing money.

Ikävä kokemus asiakaspalvelusta. Unpleasant experience with customer service, very unprofessional. Surely you can find better flea markets with better prices and better service.

Nestled in the heart of Helsinki, Temppeliaukio Church is a unique attraction known for its distinctive architecture. Carved directly into solid rock, the church features rock and rubble interior walls, complemented by a striking copper-lined dome and skylight windows that allow natural light to filter in. This popular venue also hosts concerts and offers visitors a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
Temppeliaukio Church is one of the main tourist attractions in Helsinki. Tourists come there by bus, by vans, by walking... 8 euro entrance fee doesn't matter, people wanna see what is "must see" in Helsinki. So, tourists who have only one or two days time to spend in Helsinki prefer to visit Temppeliaukio Church. One can hear there a real mix of languages. No doubt, Temppeliaukio Church is worth of visit. It is architecturally a very special building. To create this kind of church - a church excavated into the rock, with a dome made from copper strip for ideal acoustics, with ceiling windows for natural light to come in - has been a genious insight. Even though there were so many visitors in Temppeliaukio Church when we were there, I enjoyed very much to finally see well this church.
Hannu T — Google review
Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the Rock Church, is a stunning example of modern architecture. Designed by architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, the church was completed in 1969 and is carved directly into solid granite. Its unique design features a massive copper dome and natural rock walls, creating a serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The interior is circular, with natural light streaming in through 180 window panes, highlighting the rough-hewn rock surfaces. The acoustics are exceptional, making it a popular venue for concerts and events. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful ambiance and admire the innovative design that blends nature and architecture seamlessly. While the €8 entrance fee is reasonable for such a unique experience, it's advisable to check the schedule for any events or services that might be taking place during your visit. Overall, Temppeliaukio Church is a must-visit attraction in Helsinki, offering a memorable experience for architecture enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
SY — Google review
This distinctive church, renowned among tourists, features two stories. For those interested in photography, I would suggest going upstairs, as it offers a more convenient angle to capture the captivating interior. Please be aware that there is an entrance fee.
Tony C — Google review
The church carved into rock is an impressive architectural site, especially from the inside. However, the €8 entry fee just to look around feels hard to justify — especially when for only €10 you can attend a concert, which is a vastly better deal. The acoustics are excellent. I saw a performance by the Ukrainian Orchestra and really enjoyed it. The venue was full, mostly with locals rather than tourists, which shows it's valued as a cultural hub in Helsinki. The architecture is striking and unique, though not historical — as an art historian, I found it less captivating in that regard, but it’s definitely something different and worth experiencing through music.
Marta Ś — Google review
Such a cool church. On the eye, probably the most aesthetically pleasing. €8 euro entry fee, but id say it was worth it to see. Just a beautiful church

I loved the architecture of this church beautifully made - never seen anything quite like it !! Thus i find the ticket pricing should be at least 5 euros when theres no service as theres not a lot to see , its just one main room.

Perched atop a hill in Helsinki, Uspenski Cathedral is the epicenter of the Finnish Orthodox faith. Known as the 'Russian Church,' it boasts an ornate exterior with red brick and distinctive onion domes. Inside, visitors are treated to lavish interior decorations that reflect Orthodox Byzantine style influenced by Italian Art Deco. With its thirteen towers and east-facing crosses symbolizing Jesus and the Twelve Apostles, this cathedral stands out as Scandinavia's largest Orthodox church.
Wow! This place is impressive and will stick with me forever. I reached the Uspenski cathedral at sunset. The longest sunset in my life and I spent maybe an hour with an empty mind, looking at the beauty of the town. Really beautiful place. I came back the following day to see the interior of the cathedral

Uspenski Cathedral is one of Helsinki’s most beautiful landmarks. With its red-brick walls, golden domes, and hilltop views over the harbor, it’s stunning inside and out. The interior glows with gilded icons, chandeliers, and rich Orthodox detail — a striking contrast to the minimalist Helsinki Cathedral. Free to visit and just a short walk from the center, it’s a must-see in the city.
Louie F — Google review
A gorgeus architecture of orthodox church! Is a must see place when you are Helsinki , capital of Finland. Words about this place can't describe the beauty of the building. The Uspenski Cathedral is considered to be the largest Orthodox temple in Northern and Western Europe. The cathedral’s size is emphasized by its location on the highest hill of the Katajanokka district. The central cupola of the cathedral is 33 meters high. The cathedral was designed by the Russian church architect Aleksei M. Gornostajev. The Uspenski Cathedral was consecrated on October 25th, 1868. The Uspenski Cathedral is consecrated to the Dormition of the Mother of God (uspenie). The praasniekka church festival (also known as prazdnik or kermis) is held annually on August 15th.

It is a pleasure to visit, and it is quite outstanding. There are many tourists. We can go inside but it is a small Orthodox-style church. If you are not particularly interested in churches, tou can still appreciate the exterior and the city view from its terrace.

Truly wonderful architecture! I made sure to add this as a stop on my trip to Helsinki, Finland! The walk to get to the cathedral was easy (I just used the map on my phone). The views of the surrounding areas are great once you climb the stairs! This is definitely worth the trek!
David K — Google review
1 | The largest Orthodox church in both Northern and Western Europe is also the main cathedral of the Helsinki Orthodox Diocese. It is located close to the Helsinki waterfront, and I was personally captivated by its brick-red color. Around 700,000 bricks were used for its construction, brought from the Bomarsund fortress in the Åland Islands. 2 | The church features 13 gilded domes, symbolizing Christ and the twelve apostles. The main dome rises to a height of 33 meters. 3 | You have to climb several steps to reach it, but it’s worth it. Entrance to the church outside of service times costs €5.

Cafe Regatta, a charming and quaint spot in Helsinki, is a small wooden cabin originally used as a fishing hut. It has become an Instagram hotspot due to its picturesque setting by the Baltic Sea. The cafe's interior is filled with various memorabilia and curiosities, creating a cozy atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy tasty sandwiches, cinnamon buns, or tea while taking in the ocean view from the outdoor seating area.
Beware of the birds if you eat outside, but still absolutely worth the visit. The food, especially the cinnamon buns were fantastic! A cozy great place to grab a bite to eat as you stroll along the waterfront.
K K — Google review
Café Regatta is a charming lakeside café located in a picturesque red cottage by the water. It's a bit of a scenic trip from the city center, but the peaceful ambiance makes it a relaxing destination. The café offers a cozy atmosphere with outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying a coffee and pastry while taking in the lakeside views. The cinnamon roll, though not as moist as expected, had a delightful cardamom fragrance that added a unique touch. The coffee, however, had a slight off taste, possibly due to the water used, which gave it a somewhat plasticky flavor. While the food and drink may not be exceptional, the tranquil setting and rustic charm of the cottage make Café Regatta a pleasant spot to unwind. It's a nice place to visit if you're in the area, but perhaps not worth a special trip solely for the refreshments.
SY — Google review
it was such a romantic little spot surrounded by beautiful nature and lake views. We had a blueberry pie, a cinnamon bun, and a butter bun. all were freshly baked and absolutely delicious. The buns have a strong cardamom flavor, which will be amazing for cardamom lovers like me. but might feel a bit intense if you’re not used to it. As my husband said, after having a cardamom-rich bun, even the coffee started to taste a bit like scorched reindeer 🤣 in a funny, unexpected way! We walked here from Helsinki city center about 40 minutes on mostly flat paths, and it was a pleasant, scenic walk. The café has a rustic, homey atmosphere with outdoor seating right by the water. Perfect place to relax, chat, and soak in the Finnish charm. Highly recommend stopping by!

A must-visit spot for anyone looking for a peaceful local touch with great Finnish bakery classic.

Coziest cafe ever, just to enter you're hit by the warm wonderful welcoming scent of cardemum and cinnamon. Located beautiful by the water with a small campfire, where you can barbecue sausages and marhsmallows (which can be purchased in the cafe). Pies were delicious and great hot coffee was served.

Café Regatta is as charming as it gets — a cozy little red cottage by the water with unbeatable atmosphere. The cinnamon buns are absolutely delicious and pair perfectly with their hot chocolate or coffee. Sitting outside by the water is recommended. Friendly staff, beautiful views, and a true Helsinki gem. Highly recommend stopping by, whether for a quick treat or a relaxing afternoon by the sea.

Helsinki: --- Cafe Regatta is a charming little spot with an absolutely beautiful view of the water — definitely the highlight of the visit. The café itself has a cozy, rustic feel, which adds to its character. The coffee and snacks are decent, though nothing too special. Sibelius Park, also known as Sibeliusmonumentet, is a picturesque urban seaside park located in the Toolo district of Helsinki. The park is named after the renowned Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and features an English-style landscape garden with a variety of attractions. One of its main highlights is the famous Sibelius Monument, designed by Eila Hiltunen in memory of the composer.
Beautiful park with an amazing metal structure. We went in winter and it was very cold but the scenery was espectacular. You can get there on the bus, then from the bus stop you have to walk approximately 20 minutes. But the walk is worth it.
Julito R — Google review
There are two playgrounds in the park that look lovely, so this would be a great choice if you have young children. It is about a 30 minute bus ride from downtown Helsinki. No cafes near by and I didn't see any public restrooms.
Elise M — Google review
Just stunning!! The centerpiece of this park dedicated to Finland‘s most famous composer is the art sculpture that weighs more than 24 tons. It’s simply gorgeous from any angle. We walked from near Stockmann Department Store, but it’s easy to reach by Uber or bus. Not sure about trams. Definitely a must see in Helsinki.
Pam G — Google review
Sibelius Park is where music, nature and city life meet. The steel monument rises like frozen organ pipes by the sea, while ponds, pines and yachts create a calm setting. Benches, a playground, an ice cream stand and even toilets make it a perfect stop to rest and feel Helsinki’s rhythm
Carmen — Google review
Sibelius Park is one of the most beautiful and inspiring places to visit in Helsinki. Located along the scenic coastline in the Töölö district, it perfectly combines cultural heritage with natural beauty. The park is most famous for the iconic Sibelius Monument, a stunning piece of art dedicated to Finland’s beloved composer Jean Sibelius. Made of hundreds of steel pipes, the monument is both impressive and moving, especially when the wind creates soft tones through it. Beyond the monument, the park itself is a wonderful green space filled with tall birch trees, open lawns, and peaceful walking paths that lead to the sea. The views of the water are breathtaking, and there are plenty of spots to sit and relax while enjoying the fresh air. It’s a popular place for both locals and tourists to picnic, read, or simply soak in the serene atmosphere. For those who enjoy a bit of activity, you can also rent kayaks or bikes nearby, which is a fantastic way to explore the coastline and surrounding areas. On a sunny day, paddling along the bay or cycling through the leafy paths makes for an unforgettable experience. Sibelius Park is more than just a park – it’s a place where nature, culture, and history come together. Whether you come to admire the monument, enjoy the sea breeze, or take a peaceful stroll, it’s a must-visit destination that truly reflects the spirit of Helsinki.
Kalina M — Google review
This city is full of history. To understand Finlands past this could be a starting point. Not forgetting it was home to one of the greatest Finnish music composers Sibelius. A day trip is worth it if not spending a night. Boat trip with lunch is also an option.
Neleah K — Google review
For a tourist in Helsinki, Sibelius Park is a "must visit" place. The park is actually more than just the famous monument; it is surprisingly big park where there in other end of the park is a fenced dog park, and there in the other end is a playground for children, and there in between some peaceful places to spend one's summer day. But Sibelius Monument is the issue. Full buses of tourists come there to admire the monument, to take pics and, of course, to take selfies. And I don't wonder why. I hadn't seen Sibelius Monument, I think, for decades, and I must say, I was surprised how impressive the monument really is, a true tribute for Finland's best known (and in my opinion the best) composer (ever).
Hannu T — Google review
Review: Sibelius Park – A Harmony of Art, Nature, and Tranquility by the Sea Sibelius Park in Helsinki is one of those places that quietly captivates you. Nestled in a peaceful urban area near the shoreline, it beautifully blends the serenity of nature with the artistic soul of the city. 🌲 Scenery and Atmosphere Winding paths, a playful fountain, and the salty sea breeze create a soothing ambiance. A small birch grove adds a touch of Nordic charm, especially when sunlight filters through the leaves. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely walk, reading a book, or simply unwinding. 🎶 Tribute to Jean Sibelius The park’s centerpiece is the striking monument dedicated to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, created by artist Eila Hiltunen. Composed of over 600 steel pipes, the sculpture evokes the spirit of Sibelius’s music in an abstract, poetic form. Nearby, a more traditional bust of the composer adds a personal and emotional touch. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 For All Visitors Sibelius Park is welcoming to families, tourists, locals, and even pets. There are gentle trails for children, open spaces for picnics, and benches for quiet reflection. Modern amenities, including accessibility features and contactless services, make the experience even more comfortable. --- 🔚 Final Verdict Sibelius Park isn’t just a green space—it’s a cultural and sensory experience. If you’re visiting Helsinki, it’s well worth a stop to feel how music, nature, and art come together in a peaceful urban retreat.

Korkeasaari Zoo, established in 1889, is a beloved attraction located on an island in the Baltic Sea near Helsinki. The zoo houses over 150 species, including big cats and reptiles, and is known for its successful breeding programs for endangered species like snow leopards and Amur tigers. The hilly island covers 22 hectares with hiking trails and various picnic spots.
It is nice to visit Korkeasaari Zoo with your family. You can bring your children and show the the real animals. This place is good and many children park, where you can stop for a while. Despite many cute and good animals here, I don't recommend to visit during lunch time. I don't know maybe we are not lucky enough, some animals slept during that time, such as tiger, and lion.. Overall rate, I give 5 stars.
Muhamad R — Google review
Very beautiful place to visit. They don't have a huge amount of animals but, the ones they have, are very well taken care of and have a lot of space to be, exercise, run, etc. I would advice a morning visit because some of the animals will not be available after 16h (if I'm not mistaken), like some monkeys. And, when it gets too warm they will seek for a cooler and shady area, sometimes inside, which will prevent you from seeing them. There's some coffee shops and a place inside where you can also eat meals brought by you. Amazing selection of frogs.
Richy ( — Google review
The zoo is on an island (i think the entire island is the zoo). I got there by JT-line boat, which is free with Helsinki City Pass (recommended, many activities with 55euro/48h). Anw, the zoo is ok, animals are not really active on a sunny saturday morning of August. But they look well taken care of and have a lot of space. Prepare yourself with drinks and at least 1,5h of walking :)

Small zoo but still took 3 hours to go round as watching the animals and exploring all the nature zones and trails around. Great facilities and large enclosures. We enjoyed our time and saw some animals we haven’t before which was really cool. Being by the water was refreshing and amazing backdrop for the zoo.

I visited this zoo quite early (11am-2pm) there was not lot of people so no line, saw most of the animals except big cats. I assume they would be more active during afternoon hours, food and drinks were good and gift shop had lot of things to pick from. Ticket prices were affordable and all the events (feedings) were clearly stated in signs, I loved that. I recommend visiting with the whole family or group
Elena P — Google review
We visited this zoo on Sunday. There were almost no people, which was very nice. However, many areas are under construction. The zoo feels quite old and, at the moment, not really worth visiting. Almost all restaurants and bars were closed. The most interesting parts were the wild cats and owls. It was quite an interesting walk to the zoo across the bridge. I suppose after the reconstruction it will be a pleasant place for both visitors and animals. But for now, it’s not a top place to visit.
Vita M — Google review
The zoo was very clean and large. Excellent facilities, even for grilling. The animals' rights were well met and they were all in the best condition. Good food and enough space appropriate to each animal's habitat were very interesting and satisfying to me. Good luck.

The palace hosts grand state functions and offers guided tours for visitors to admire its grandeur. Situated near Market Square, it is an integral part of Helsinki's rich history and culture.
I had the chance to see the Presidential Palace during a day trip to Helsinki while on a cruise, and it’s definitely one of the more impressive landmarks along the harbor. Even though I didn’t go inside, just viewing it from the outside was worthwhile — the building is quite large and stands proudly with an elegant, stately presence. Designed by architect Pehr Granstedt and later transformed into a palace by Carl Ludvig Engel, the structure is a standout example of early 19th-century neoclassical architecture. Originally a merchant’s house, it was completed in 1820 and eventually became the official residence of the President of Finland. The cream-colored façade, accented by grand columns and symmetrical windows, gives it a serene yet commanding feel. Its location near the Market Square and waterfront makes it an easy stop while exploring central Helsinki. If you appreciate historic architecture or national landmarks, it’s definitely worth pausing here for a closer look — a quiet but powerful symbol of Finnish governance and heritage.

The Presidential Palace stands as a symbol of the nation’s political heritage and architectural grandeur. Constructed in [year of construction], this majestic building has witnessed numerous historic events and served as the residence for the country’s leaders. Its design, a blend of [architectural styles], reflects the era’s artistic sensibilities and the aspirations of a newly formed government. The Palace’s corridors echo the footsteps of significant political figures, while its rooms have hosted crucial decisions that shaped the nation. Though our planned visit coincided with an official event, preventing us from exploring its interiors, the Palace remains a landmark of national pride. Visitors often marvel at its elegant façade, grand gardens, and the sense of history that pervades its surroundings. The Presidential Palace continues to function not only as a residence and office but also as a venue for state functions and official ceremonies, preserving its role in the country’s evolving political landscape. For those interested in the country’s political history and architectural beauty, the Presidential Palace is a must-see, even if only from the outside.

Was visiting Helsinki from a cruise stop, and the President Palace building was very impressive looking even from the outside.

From a tourist's perspective, the palace can only be admired from afar. You can spot this building when you're walking along the market square promenade. The palace is guarded by the royal guards, and if you're lucky enough, you may be able to spot the low-key shift change.
Luke P — Google review
The Presidential Palace is the official residence of the Finnish President. This 19th-century Neoclassical edifice is another one of Engel’s creations and you can see the similarities in its design and structure with the design of his other buildings.

Itis is a shopping center located in the eastern part of Helsinki, accessible by a 15-minute metro ride from the city center. As the largest mall in the Nordic countries, it offers an extensive selection of shops with almost 240 different options to choose from. Alongside its wide range of retail outlets, Itis also boasts nearly 30 restaurants and cafes for visitors to enjoy.
Not so busy on the weekdays. There are restaurants and almost all brands outlets, halal meat shops. Play corner for the kids. A good number of parking places are also available here, which are free of cost. So, it is a complete package. Superb place to visit.

I went to Itäkeskus for their foods in their Kauppahalli and the foods were excellent. Great food price ratio with Chicken Gyros and the Strawberry Foam Matcha is spectacular. Unfortunately the Dubai Chocolate Icecream hit under the mark. There just wasn’t the dubai chocolate Wow-factor within it. Very basic or too basic recipe with nothing extra, which dubai chocolate has. Just ordinary chocolate sauce, green sauce that I’m not sure if it’s pistachio and kunef which all of them is too little compared to the soft serve’s amount

Today around 17:50, a clearly intoxicated and socially unstable individual, with a bottle of alcohol in his pocket, approached and started yelling at my 1-month-old baby who was peacefully sleeping in a stroller near the tables by McDonald’s (next to the escalator). As a result, the baby has been crying for hours and cannot calm down. This experience was extremely upsetting and left a very negative impression of the shopping center. I strongly do not recommend visiting this place with children — it clearly lacks proper security and family-friendly atmosphere.

Big and bright mall. I was surprised at how bright this mall is compared to other malls in Helsinki. Very easy to navigate although it has many shops and eating places.
Domna T — Google review
My current rating are 3 stars only. Itis is currently undergoing a major renovation. Many stores are closed and the mall currently has a bit of a construction site feel. Had I known this before, I would have chosen not to visit. I'll be returning after the renovation is complete for an updated review. Plus points for the fact that at least on one of the parking sections, still 5 hours free parking is available. However, I do not recommend to park on the deck that is on the Stockmann side. The way down is extremely narrow and I had trouble to leave due to it being so tight. I am an experienced and confident driver, I usually don't encounter such situations. The guidance towards the exit lane is so tight and the curve is so sharp that I was worried I'd scratch my car. I had to maneuver quite a bit to get out unharmed. I haven't had this problem in any other parking sections in Itis.

Itis Shopping Center is an exceptional shopping destination in Helsinki, standing out with its unique shops among popular brands. The mall is easily accessible, boasting free parking and good public transport links. Despite its size, a stroll around the various stores, including groceries and household items, will soon have you navigating it with ease. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops perfect for socializing or a relaxing break. With ongoing renovations, the interior may seem a bit dark, but the lively atmosphere keeps the spirit upbeat. In essence, Itis is a clean, well-organized shopping haven, inviting you back for more enjoyable experiences.

Good place, you got everything you need, really pretty and quite easy to navigate. Outside area is filled with smokers and has a lingering tobacco smell but itis overall is a nice place.

I’ve been visiting Itis in Helsinki for a while, mainly for grocery shopping and checking out phone and clothing stores, as well as some electronics shops. Overall, the mall offers a good variety of stores, making it easy to find what I need in one place. The grocery stores are well-stocked, and I can usually find both everyday essentials and specialty items without any trouble. The clothing stores have a decent selection, with options ranging from affordable to higher-end, which is nice for different shopping needs. The phone and electronics stores are also worth checking out. They carry a good range of products, and it’s convenient to compare different models and prices in one trip. The layout of the mall makes it easy to navigate, and I appreciate that it doesn’t feel too crowded, even during busy hours. The overall atmosphere is clean and comfortable, and it’s well-maintained, which adds to the positive experience. Itis is also easy to get to, thanks to its connection to public transportation. It’s a reliable place for everyday shopping, and I like having a mix of stores in one location, making errands more efficient.

Ravintola Central is a delightful dining spot that truly embodies the essence of Finnish cuisine while also offering a variety of continental dishes, including pizza. Located slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, this restaurant is well worth the visit. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff, fluent in English, make it easy to explore traditional Finnish flavors.
Great restaurant with an awesome team. The food is always good, no matter what you try. We were six people with different tastes and everyone was really excited - no matter if it was veggie, meat or fish. The whole team is always trying to give you the best time and service and the ambience is very cozy. I will comeback for sure. Kiitos paljon kaikille.🫶

Ordered salmon soup, pizza, and goat cheese salad. The soup was good but a little on the fishier side. The pizza was decent, but wouldn’t order again. The salad was good; fresh, hearty veggies and a great piece of bread. The service was good, and the atmosphere was pleasant and pretty casual.
Chelsea B — Google review
Nice place. Always liked it as there is a nice atmosphere inside. Had the ribs which were a summer special. Tender and flavourful. Not so sure about the chimichurri sauce but overall, a taste dish. Also order the salmon soup. Flavourful and rich. And the vendace or “muikku” which was good.
Linda D — Google review
Portions are small and the meat portions are pricey for their size. The meals themselves taste lovely. The Salmon soup is fantastic and among the best I’ve tried in Helsinki, however the small portion is absolutely miniscule and larger portion is adequate-ish in size, perhaps if you’re just a little hungry then it’s satisfying. However the starter portion, especially considering the price, is pathetically small. The restaurant itself is lovely and has beautiful architecture, clearly renovated while maintaining its old and authentic decor.

The restaurant is located in a charming area close to the sea. The waiting straff is friendly and the service is excellent! Food and drinks was great and the atmosphere is very inviting. The place was buzzing even during a week night.
John D — Google review
The restaurant is rich in history and location couldn’t be any more golden. However the foods really don’t live up to their legacy. We expected at least some good old Finnish classics but to say our meal was underwhelming is an understatement. Pizza is soaked in ketchup and prickle peppers. Grilled salmon with summer vegs is alright but the salmon was too dry and under seasoned. Food’s quality in no way would match the premium price tag.
Minh L — Google review
Good, traditional food for reasonable price - comes with friendly service. The place is a classic in Ullanlinna.

Additionally, the store offers free arcade games and has charging stations for electric vehicles in its parking garage.
Verkkokauppa offers to take passport picture for Finnish documents ! The price is really cheap compared to any other similar services. But good to know about the dimensions of the picture which are not the same for French passport for example. The seller told me that it might be rejected by the embassy if it's not the right dimensions. They got this feedback from previous costumers!

It is huge with two floors, you can find household electronics, phones, cameras, watches, headphones, toys, musical instruments, food... However, it is hard to find a consultant in the sales area. Outlet section prices are a joke, 10 to 15 percent discounts for the majority of the items.

Although my experience is a bit old by now, 2 years ago, I had bought a phone with 500 memory, but ended up with only 250. I noticed a bit late, about a week or week and a half after purchase. I gave Verkkokauppa proof they gave me a phone with less memory. They offered to replace it, but I had already put personal info in it by that time. Why not edit the payment plan to reflect the actual product? Who would want to send in their brand new phone with photos and personal info already in it? Come on. If you buy a phone from here, check immediately that you've got the right one. I had to pay more for something that wasn't even my fault. Not cool. Why they didn't offer to adjust my payments, I don't know, but I do know they could, and should've done that. Maybe I was an exceptional case, but be mindful when making a purchase.

There is an Art Fair at the moment where you can buy some good pieces of art. All of them are overpriced of course but still, you can have some inspiration by just looking at the exhibition. Wonderful museum! Such an interesting buildings and details. All staff fluently speak English, and is willing to answer all the questions you might have about the history, peculiarities and the tiniest trifle you happen to spot during the tour. The museum closes at 5 pm, but it means only that the buildings are locked, the territory itself is opened 24/7 and is more like a public park.
Paula Ā — Google review
I visited this open-air museum in Helsinki on my own and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my trip! Right in the first cottage I met an amazing guide who truly brought Finland’s past to life. He wasn’t just repeating textbook facts. He shared lesser-known stories with such passion that I could feel how much he enjoys digging into history. From why red houses became a symbol of Finland, to how whole wooden homes were once moved across the country, to the hidden meanings in words like väki. Every detail felt like a window into another world. He was also kind enough to take a photo with me which made the moment even more special. What impressed me most was the way he connected everyday traditions, like the sauna, with deeper cultural layers. Learning that it was once considered a sacred space, where life both began and ended, made me see Finnish culture with fresh eyes. All the staff were dressed in traditional costumes which created a wonderful atmosphere and many of them were very knowledgeable too, happy to share interesting stories and facts. Even though I came alone, I never felt lonely. The stories and people made the place feel alive. Highly recommend this museum if you want to go beyond the surface and experience the soul of Finland. ✨

Kotiharjun Sauna is a traditional wood-fired sauna in Helsinki, offering an old-timey atmosphere and limited refreshments. It's a place where locals and visitors can experience Finland's sauna culture, sweating it out side by side. This historic spot, opened in 1928, is the city's oldest public sauna and a great place to enjoy a classic Finnish sauna experience. Located in the vibrant Kallio neighborhood, it provides an authentic urban sauna experience.
Amazing first sauna experience! Everyone was super welcoming, it was a much more social experimence than I had expected.. picked up the rules/etiquette very quickly, and yes even getting naked (usually unthinkable for a prudish Australian) was fine! Highly recommended, especially if you're up for a chat with friendly locals

If you're in Helsinki and a fan of saunas, you must visit this place. It's the oldest wood-heated sauna, and the entire vintage atmosphere adds to the great experience. The sauna was quite crowded. An interesting part is the cooling down on a bench literally out on the street, right in front of the sauna. Definitely a must-see in Helsinki. The price was €19, and towels and slippers are available.
Dejan P — Google review
Closed on Tuesdays during peak tourist season – a day when, at around 13 °C and pouring rain, a soothing sauna session would have been perfect. Disappointing planning for overseas visitors hoping to warm up in inclement weather, but Finnish planning is not always tourist-friendly indeed. The sauna itself seems historically charming – at least wood‑heated, no reservations for public access – but accessibility is oddly limited. The Kallio neighbourhood feels a bit uneasy too: I spotted four junkies loitering in the square opposite, which made me uneasy, though it wasn’t overtly threatening. All in all, a lovely old‑school experience hampered by inconvenient closure and a slightly dubious location.
Emmanuel P — Google review
This was my only stop during my layover in Helsinki. You can take bus 600 from the airport and walk a bit. Wood-fire sauna built in 1928. 16€ entrance fee. Card accepted. Women’s area is on the second floor, men on the first. Towels available for rent for additional fee. I recommend bringing disposable towels. You can buy beer or drink Finnish tap water. At that price I feel it is many tourists who wish to try something local. It was also many young people which is unique from what I experienced in east Asia. You can go nude or in your swimsuit/ towel. There is no hour glass in the sauna to track time. In the women’s area, it is quiet and calm and mostly talking amongst friends. There are less women using the facility. You go into the sauna, have an icy cold shower and alternate. There are wooden pallets in sauna to help your bottom with the heat. The higher you go on the steps, the hotter it is. There is a ladle and pail with water near the door to create steam in the furnace. I imagine the experience is different in winter to go outside but I thought it is not necessary as there was a lot of space in the women’s area to relax. Outside it is also very public with cars driving by and a park right opposite. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were available. In the locker room when you explore, there are books/ brochures you can bring into the sauna, hairdryer, weighing machine, slippers. There is also a guest book with many messages from visitors around the world.
Jozin L — Google review
Wonderful place to visit if you're a sauna enthusiast. I found the place very friendly and was made to feel very welcome. The place oozes history and it's such a shame that this is one of a kind now. So so hot, especially being sat on the gallery. The feeling when the water is poured over the stones is incredible. I stayed for two hours and it was totally worth the €16 entrance fee. I'll definitely go back one day.
Gary E — Google review
Authentic and cultural experience while in Helsinki. Full of locals enjoying. My only thing is that I thought it was quite expensive to pay 19€ for the entrance and a towel. I thought it was cheaper. Besides that everything else was a great experience that you must try while in Helsinki

Great second hand shop, mostly clothes and shoes this time. So much to see, and I especially loved all the rocker-style pieces!

Wow, incredible shop! I love how the clothing is organized by style, hippie/y2k/goth/etc. I found so many great things here! I think the prices are pretty fair, everything here is unique and bespoke. Definitely visit this shop when you’re in Helsinki. 💕🖤

Cozy vibe, large collection of all kinds of clothes and a very high 'fashion-to-kitsch ratio'. I'm not an expert, but it was immediately clear that the standard is higher here than in most other 2nd-hand stores. Got a pristine-white coat that looks like it cost 150e for 14e; highly recommend.

Amazing vintage clothes. I’ll go back again, I’m from Paris and this shop is amazing. 5* stars please keep finding gems.

Omg this place is amazing and saved me from canceling my snowshoeing trip in hossa national park. Finair lost all of my luggage. I literally had nothing went there and got a huge amount of sporting good and. Luggage and shirts and jeans and socks and head covers for 300 euros. The people were super helpful as I had like 20 min before I had to leave and pack and catch my next flight. And they are open on Sundays. They have a lot of amazing stuff. I highly recommend this place Amazing

They have a similar scheme as Humana in Estonia.. follow their Facebook, and come during their regular, reduced days! When we were there, they had 50% reductions on jackets. Upstairs, lots of elegant 80s and 90s evening wear. Downstairs, 80s grunge denim.

Located in new premises with affordable rent, Siisti Kirppis attracts a steady flow of customers and is considered one of the best second-hand stores in Helsinki.
Best second hand store in Helsinki! Price range is really good, easy to walk along the rows and convenient to use as if you rent the table, and their reels at IG gives a good mood for the day! 😊
Sveta H — Google review
I used to sell my stuff at this second-hand store. My things sold well, and I also found good things for myself among the other assortment in this second-hand store. I recommend
Anastasiia A — Google review

Love this store, always tidy, cosy and pleasant to be in. Great assortment of stuff. The only thing I’d improve is to add more fitting rooms 💙
Maria — Google review
The best second hand store in Helsinki. Fair prices, variety of clothes, polite staff and cozy atmosphere. Highly recommended
Olga G — Google review
Favourite second-hand in Helsinki! Always find some treasures for cheap price. Staff is very friendly all the time, I love being there ♡
Stylish O — Google review
Unprofessional, or professionally criminal. They will lose/steal your things and have cero knowledge about pricing. If you donate your clothes you’ll be happier. Apparently they don’t count or document what you bring there, and write paper prices. They have no overview of the property you entrust them with and that seems very much on purpose. Your brand things will get “lost” and the staff plays dumb. Avoid this place!
Susann F — Google review
Not a good experience, this is from a sellers perspective. I thought they would have knowledge of brands and adjust pricing according to the clothes. Works fine for high street brands but not designer clothes. I thought the sellers would have an understanding about brands as well as vintage clothing. When picking up the clothes that did not sell they had been thrown into a bag, not folded nicely. I also had to ask for my other bag back since they hadn’t put it with my stuff automatically. I could only start following sales after I asked for the log in details that were not provided upfront. As a positive the place is clean and fresh. Customer service is friendly.

Marimekko Esplanadi is a vibrant flagship store that embodies the essence of Finnish design with its strikingly colorful apparel and home decor. Nestled along the picturesque Esplanadi, this shop offers an extensive range of clothing, bags, textiles, and home goods adorned in Marimekko's signature bold patterns. It's a must-visit for anyone intrigued by unique fashion or seeking functional yet stylish items.
Rumour said if you cannot find what you want in one store, go to another. In my case, this is the first Marimekko store I went in the district, but I found all I want so I didn't have to go on to another. The staff was very helpful and had many recommendations, and didn't put me in haste while I was trying on whole lot of different items (clothes I mean). One of the best shopping experiences.
Pingyuan C — Google review
Absolutely love the timeless style of Marimekko — unique pieces, beautiful design, perfect quality. But most importantly, I want to say a huge thank you to the wonderful staff. They helped me with the choice, gave great advice, discussed everything patiently, and prepared Tax-Free documents so quickly and politely. It was such a warm and pleasant experience. Thank you for making my shopping in Helsinki special!

Happened to be there at the beginning of winter sale. This shop had the best, almost complete selection of sale items and well-stocked. Besides clothings, accessories and home decor, it also carried the Marimekko Kiosk series (not every branch had it). Very friendly and happy staff too. They all made sure to ask if you were a Marimekko member. Otherwise you could sign up as one and new member entitled to 10% off normal-priced goods.

Beautiful store but subpar shopping experience. I went in with the intention of purchasing several textile items and the Riihitie planters, and also to look at some pendant lights. Received zero service from the Asian sales assistant (I think she was the only one on the second floor at the time) who walked right past me to help a white Finnish couple who were browsing furniture. I ended up not buying anything here and making my purchases at Vepsäläinen a few days after.

Design furnitures, carpets, fabrics, lights and other small decorative items from Finninsh and International designers. Large selection that changes periodically on display and many known international design items can ce ordered as well with the help of Artek. The store also has small exhibitions related to design troughout the year. There is also smaller store Artek 2nd Cycle nearby that focuses on recycled design furnitures from the past.

A lovely second-hand boutique with a cool concept – shop for unique pre-loved treasures and enjoy a cup of quality coffee or a tasty bite in the cozy café corner. A perfect blend of style and comfort!
Anna-Liis A — Google review
My all time favourite cafe! Had a quick visit with my younger sister, great food, atmosphere and service once again. Found a lovely summer hat on the second hand -side and finally bought my dream earrings from a Finnish small business called Naku Jewellery (at Stockmann Relove they also keep a changing collection of small businesses’ accessories on sale). The earrings weren’t on display upon our arrival, but since I had seen them earlier, I asked whether they still have them in stock and eventually found them in the back. Amazing service, thank you! <3
Saana S — Google review
Don’t sell your clothes here… (This review is regarding selling at Relove, not the cafe or buying secondhand.) Without any explanation, more than half of my clothes weren’t put up for sale, and no one contacted me about it - no message, nothing. They also put up one of the bags for sale that I brought the clothes in, even though I instructed them not to. They weren’t able to explain why half of my clothes weren’t put up for sale in any meaningful way, but they promised to look into it. Hopefully, they will provide me with some sort of acceptable answer before my (expensive) sales week is over. If this is how it is to sell at Relove, this was my first and last time.

I love going to brunch spots when I visit a new city and that’s how I found here when I visit Helsinki. And I have to say I am impressed with the quality. 10/10. (Translated by Google) If you love domestic & Nordic design, this is a treasure trove!😍 We were on a Saturday flea market tour in the SME region and were going to the Kannelmäki Aino flea market, when we noticed this Muija while looking for a parking space! So it's not a flea market, but a buying and selling business, so we hadn't even seen this on Google searches. The company has reportedly been there for 7 years. We go around a lot of flea markets and this one just happened, never heard of it. This store is a Collector's paradise! What you can't find here, you didn't even know existed😅 Domestic & Nordic glass, porcelain, ceramics, fabrics, clothes, jewelry, tin cans, decor items, etc., etc.! As you can see from my pictures & videos, there was a lot of stuff, but I still think everything is arranged in a smooth harmony. It didn't feel like a bunch of stuff, but they were arranged beautifully either according to material, colors, designer, manufacturer, etc. I recommend stopping by and I believe that this business will spread a good reputation for Finnish design abroad. 👌🏻

(Translated by Google) I purchased an item from a website. It was packaged very carefully and arrived safely without breaking even on the long journey. Of course, there is no missing item. You can purchase Scandinavian vintage products, mainly from ARABIA and iittala, at reasonable prices. Several times, when my friend emailed me to check on inventory to see if there was a product that wasn't listed on the website, the response was quick and very helpful. For some reason, I wasn't very good at paying bills, so I had to communicate with them over the phone...I was very grateful that they were flexible with payment methods. →I think it's an irregular thing. Normally, you should be able to order and check out easily on the website. I feel very happy now that I can't really go to Finland.
