Japanese restaurant
Tonkatsu restaurant
Tanakatsu is a modern Japanese restaurant located near Angel station, offering a minimalist interior and a menu inspired by the katsu houses of Japan. The restaurant serves a variety of classic Japanese dishes, including sushi rolls, sashimi, and crispy katsu dishes. It is popular among local workers for its well-priced and generously portioned meals, such as katsu sets and teriyaki plates. Additionally, Tanakatsu offers a selection of different sakes for an authentic Japan-style dining experience.
Even though I’m not really a true sushi lover, I decided to try this place with my friend and honestly, everything I had was super delicious! We ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry, and I highly recommend trying the side salad that comes with it, especially with the dressing on the table it’s a must! We also tried the Rainbow and Dragon rolls, and both were amazing. But if I had to choose one, I’d definitely go with the Rainbow roll. Also the staff is really attentive and friendly. ✨

Came here for lunch. They have a lunch menu with good variety and reasonable prices. The food was tasty, portions were just right, and the service was friendly. Overall, a great dining experience, will definitely come back again.
Lily T — Google review
Came here for dinner before movie in Angel. Nice place in terms of atmosphere. Portion and price is definitely on the pricier side. But delicious and good quality katsu Don is guaranteed!

We got a chance to find a Japanese Restaurant on our way to our hotel. We ordered the Pork Katsu Curry and Chicken Katsu Curry. The food was amazing and probably one of the best katsu curry I had. The portion was big as well and the meat was phenomenal. The restaurant has a good atmosphere to it and staff were really nice and welcoming. We also got a stamp card when dining in and will get a free meal on the 11th purchase which is good considering how tasty the food is. I can’t wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. Highly recommended place to try! 💯

Very friendly staff members. Lovely lady was making an effort to learn Japanese. Pork was juicy and tender. Unlimited threaded cabbage and kona-cha (powdered green tea). Nice pork katsu sandwich and their special dressing was also nice.
Oo L — Google review
Very good tonkatsu restaurant in London. I ordered the pork katsu set and the portion is great for the price! The pork is a bit tougher than I would have wanted and I hope the mustard and miso soup come with the set and not ordered separately but for what it is, it is very good

Tanakatsu – A Hidden Gem in Barbican for Japanese Comfort Food If you’re looking for authentic, no-nonsense Japanese comfort food in London, Tanakatsu near Barbican is a spot that delivers. I recently visited for lunch and tried their pork katsu and chicken teriyaki, and both dishes exceeded expectations. The pork katsu was the standout. The breadcrumb coating was light and crisp without being greasy, and the pork inside was perfectly cooked — juicy, tender, and full of flavour. It was served with finely shredded cabbage and a classic tonkatsu sauce that added a nice balance of tanginess and sweetness. This is easily one of the best katsu dishes I’ve had in London — comforting, satisfying, and cooked with care. The chicken teriyaki was also very good. The glaze was on the sweeter side, but not overpowering, and the chicken was grilled nicely with a slight char that added depth. It paired well with the fluffy rice and vegetables on the side. While the pork katsu stole the show for me, the chicken teriyaki was still a solid choice, especially if you enjoy bolder, saucier flavours. Tanakatsu has a minimalist interior — clean lines, warm lighting, and a calm vibe that makes it perfect for a quiet lunch or casual dinner. The service was quick and friendly without being overbearing, and prices are reasonable for central London. Overall, Tanakatsu nails the basics: quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and a menu that sticks to what it knows best. Whether you’re craving a crunchy katsu or a comforting bowl of teriyaki, this place won’t disappoint. I’ll definitely be returning — and next time, I might try their katsu curry or the salmon option. Rating: 4.5/5 – Worth the visit for anyone who loves good Japanese food.

Pan-Asian restaurant
Nestled conveniently across from Russell Square Tube Station, Hare & Tortoise is a charming Japanese eatery that has been delighting Londoners for over 25 years. This relaxed dining spot specializes in authentic Japanese flavors, serving up an array of sushi, ramen, and rice dishes that cater to all dietary preferences—be it carnivores, vegetarians, vegans, or those seeking gluten-free options.
Very delicious Asian food! I particularly loved the Laksa. The mini version is not small at all, it was quite filling and it's more than enough as a main dish for one person as you can see from the photos. The crispy tempura shrimps were very tasty, the shrimps were perfectly cooked and soft and the crust was crispy and flavorful.
Ouissal B — Google review
Great food lovely experience. The signature Penang Mee is a must try. Never really rated this restaurant 10 years ago but it’s really good now doing a mix of pan Asian cuisines including Japanese and Malaysian.

The roasted duck rice is everything, the best i had in london. Also ordered a salad, wonderful.

The food is super good, the portions are huge and it is very affordable + amazing quality. All the staff were super fast. My only concern was the ambiance was loud, it is hard to maintain a conversation. Otherwise great, I trully recomend this restaurant.

Hare & Tortoise 11-13 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AF ( There are other locations ) It's one of my favourite restaurants. The food is amazing, always fresh, and tastes amazing. I particularly like it because it's a casual dining restaurant serving tasty dishes with an authentic flavour. We have been dining here for over 15 years and never had a bad experience. The pricing is competitive, the service is affectionate, and the food is amazing. We recommend all the dishes , everything on the menu is perfrct but what really stands out is the freshness. An amaxing experience of authentic food .

Food was delicious. Chicken katsu sushi was the best! The sweet chilly chicken and black bean noodles was also very tasty. Service was great. Atmosphere is nice but the smell from the kitchen is very strong and hits you as you walk in. Definitely going again!

Coco Ichibanya is a Japanese curry chain that has opened up in London and provides a heavy customization of their dishes. The food can be tasty for a casual meal, but it may not be the best you've had. There was some delay in service given the small restaurant size and similarity between all the dishes.
I’ve always loved katsu curry, and my friend took me to this place — I absolutely loved it! It was full of flavour and pure deliciousness. If only my tummy had more space, I would’ve ordered even more. I’m definitely coming back on my next visit to London. The service was friendly and efficient, and overall, I left completely satisfied. I’d highly recommend this spot to anyone who hasn’t been yet. Definitely worth coming back.
Naveen V — Google review
Nice curry - I definitely preferred that batter on the chicken compared to the pork, so I'd recommend getting that one. The curry sauce was nice, and the portions were good. I'd say the menu is slightly too big, and should be refined somewhat. It would also be nice if we had an option of which mochi we received, because there are 3 potential flavours but were given 2 without any consultation.
Rhiannon — Google review
Having visited this chain on our trips to Japan, we knew what to expect. The food was good, served hot and tasty. Sadly the value is just not there, £25 per person for a curry and a drink each. Pretty average value in a restaurant, but not in a fast food outlet environment like this is. We paid around £6 for a bowl of curry in Japan, here it's £20 (+10% service charge). Love the food, but £55 for a quick lunch (for two) is just not worth it.
Nick — Google review
Always love this place! So homely and every first bite makes you feel some kind of way. The curry is like CRACK. Big thank you to Mika, who was incredibly sweet, very attentive, and gave us a fantastic experience. Please open a branch in Manchester 🙏 please please please
Nichole M — Google review
Absolutely loved this restaurant in Japan, so when we found out there was one in London, we had to try it, and if we hadn't been to the Japan one, I know it'd be delicious, however I just couldn't help compare them. As usual, I'll start positively, the place is quite large with downstairs seating, we were seated quickly as a couple and we were asked for our order promptly. The curry itself was lovely and the menu is highly customisable making it perfect for me, who is a meat eater and my partner who is a vegetarian. The downsides though - The cheesy garlic naan had nearly no cheese in and was over cooked that it felt more of a stale texture than the soft doughy, but still beautifully cooked, wipe your bowl up, super cheesy ones from Japan. I ordered a beer and coke first thing and didn't get them until after my food was delivered which I had to ask for, however my partners milk tea came instantly. The temperature of the food for me, wasn't piping hot, meaning the cheese didn't melt fully and felt maybe it had been under a warmer whilst waiting for others to be done, also, completely opposite to Japan. I would come back to be able to experience some memories of Japan, but unfortunately for me, id say it needs the food looking at. Maybe they're offering TOO wide of a menu, or understaffed to the point the food is sitting too long.
Martyn F — Google review
A major thank you to VJ at this location. We’re in London two or three times a year and generally end up at this Coco once a trip. We’ve had Coco in LA and Japan too many times to count, but this location always stands above the rest for us. It’s comfort food. There’s something healing about Japanese curry after a long day. I recommend the chicken katsu or the omelet curry with additional spice. On our most recent trip VJ went out of his way to make our 4-year-old feel welcome. I was blown away by the customer service. Little moments like that really impact a kiddo (and their family) so major thank you, VJ! We’re customers for life now.
Michael K — Google review
Everything was amazing and I have never eaten a more delicious japanese curry. The portion was very very big so you actually do not need to get sidedishes. I am a muslim and I had the normal scrambled eggs with rice and curry but topped it with cheese and veggies. I was full for the rest of the day it was very tasty and worthwhile. The only thing I would adress that I did not like was the 12.5% tip charged automatically. I am someone who eats alot so I also ordered Naan bread and two drinks. So the tip was nearly 6-7 pounds (10 euro) for me alone. I can see how this makes sense in groups but as a travelling student it was a lot and could have been the price for my groceries. I was about to tip 2-3 pounds (which is more like my buget) but the automatic 12.5% tip charged for a solo guest was a bit over the top. Regardless, everything was amazing but that was the only thing I did not like.
Me L — Google review
We decided to visit after seeing a TikTok review and had fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed as the food wasn’t particularly outstanding. The portions were generous, but the meat was slightly dry, and we felt quite full halfway through the bowl. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. Overall, it was an okay experience, but we might not rush back.

Tayyabs is a well-loved Punjabi restaurant located in Whitechapel, serving up flavorful and spicy dishes in a modern, no-frills setting. Since 1972, this family-owned establishment has been dishing out traditional Punjabi cuisine that's sure to satisfy.
Tayyabs is one of those London spots people always talk about, and after going, I get why. The Punjabi food is bold, full of spice, and cooked with real character. The lamb chops are the dish everyone raves about for a reason…smoky, juicy, and packed with flavor. The karahi curries are rich, hearty, and perfect for sharing around the table. Portions are generous, so you won’t leave hungry. The atmosphere is buzzing and energetic. It’s not a quiet or intimate restaurant, but that’s part of the charm. It feels alive, with big groups, sizzling plates, and constant movement. Seating can be tight, and it does get noisy, so don’t expect a calm dinner. This is more about enjoying the food and the energy of the place. Service is quick, sometimes a little rushed, but that matches the pace of the restaurant. Food usually comes out fast and fresh, which is impressive given how busy it gets. The interior is simple and functional…it’s clear the focus here is all about the food. You might walk out with your clothes carrying the smoky aroma of the grill, but honestly, that’s part of the experience. Overall, Tayyabs is a London institution worth visiting. Go with friends or family, order plenty, and enjoy the flavors.

One of the best Punjabi restaurants in London! The lamb chops is a must try and mango smoothie. The curries were packed with flavours. Generous portions and good value for money. The service was good, friendly staff and the venue is usually very busy so it can be loud. Expect long queues even though if you have a booking. I would definitely recommend this place if you fancy some good curry and willing to wait for a table and like loud atmosphere.
Han Y — Google review
The place was busy and busy means good vibes! Somewhere whenever you want to dine with family or friends. The service was great didn’t take more than 5 mins to be seated and quickly served water and salad and some poppadoms with we election of sauces. The food came very quickly and hot too! The naan bread was cooked so fluffy! Overly experience was great, and very busy that I don’t think I saw the same waiter twice! Thank you and see you again.
SA84 B — Google review
Food was great and really well priced, especially if you’re sharing. The fact that you can bring your own drinks makes it even more affordable, especially for groups. There were six of us, and we ordered: 1x water 2x lamb chops (a must) 2x chicken tikka 2x dry meat signature (another must) 2x saag paneer 2x karahi chicken 2x pilau rice 5x garlic naan Came to just £26 each which is insane value for the quality in London Food came quickly but service was generally quite chaotic
Saj C — Google review
One of my favourite places to have Indian/Pakistani flavours on this side of London. Lamb chops are to die for here so definitely recommend that. Busy place so definitely book in advance, tho service is attentive and the food arrives to the table quite quickly.
Tasman T — Google review
Easily one of the finest Pakistani dining experiences I’ve had outside of Pakistan—just incredible. The kebabs were melt‑in‑your‑mouth tender, the karahi was extraordinary, and the lamb so soft I initially thought it was beef. It’s a meal I’ll be thinking about for a long time! Make sure to make reservations because this place gets crazy packed!
Javed K — Google review
A really good restaurant worth visiting if you are visiting London and craving for Pakistani/Indian food. Everything from starter to the tea was good and well-served. Seems like everything was made from fresh ingredients.
Adeel J — Google review
Tayyabs is an East London icon — loud, lively, and unapologetically flavourful. It’s the kind of place where the energy is electric, the aroma hits you the moment you walk in, and the food speaks for itself. The lamb chops are hands down the star of the show — smoky, tender, and perfectly charred with just the right amount of heat. The chicken tikka is another winner — juicy, well-marinated, and fresh off the grill. Pair that with hot, pillowy naan or their crispy, buttery garlic paratha, and you’re in for a treat. The Mutton Karahi is rich, robust, and deeply spiced — a proper hearty dish that’s full of depth. The Chicken Saag, with its creamy spinach base and tender meat, brings a lovely balance to the table. Service is fast-paced but efficient, and the staff know the menu inside out — they’ll happily guide you if you’re unsure. Whether you’re here for a big feast or just a plate of those iconic chops, Tayyabs never disappoints. Just be sure to book ahead — queues are real, and rightly so!

Wagamama Covent Garden is a vibrant and casual dining spot that brings the essence of Asian cuisine to life in a Japanese-inspired atmosphere. With its long communal benches, it fosters a sense of community among diners. Known for its delicious ramen and refreshing sake, Wagamama ensures an enjoyable experience with attentive service that makes every guest feel valued. Recently, the restaurant has expanded its offerings by introducing exciting new vegan options to cater to diverse dietary preferences.
Actually my worst food experience in London. The spice that they used was just hot paprika!!! Super hot with no other taste!!! Even salt!!! I'm wondering why they didn't mention that, even though the yogurt was full of onion!!!! Very bad experience and, I was in a hurry to go to the airport so I couldn't even order another dish, so be careful about the spicy food there
Samira S — Google review
The food and service were really good. The one thing I do find quite strange is that all of the food arrives at completely different times. It was explained to us that different cooks prepared different meals, but what's the point of ordering appetisers if they arrive after your main course.
Steve — Google review
This is a fun and easy-going noodle bar that’s part of a well-loved UK chain. It’s super informal, great for a quick bite, and the prices are spot on. The dumplings and sharing dishes are the real standouts, though their noodles and ramen hold their own too. Don’t skip the fresh juices—they’re surprisingly good and a bit of fun. This particular branch often has a queue, which says a lot, but it usually moves quickly. A reliable option for casual dining when you want something warm, tasty, and no-fuss. Great for groups or a quick solo meal.
Key M — Google review
Have been here for dinner on various occasions. I recommend allowing a lot of time if you want to come in on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, as it gets very busy and you can be waiting for your table for long. Especially important if you’re planning to eat there before going to the theatre. Service is usually quick and can be attentive but can be not at all. I don’t think they have enough staff and have noticed that there can be several tables that need cleaning but no one is cleaning them so there is not enough space to sit customers and everyone is queuing outside. Food is always good value for money and tastes good.

When i first visited London some 20 years ago, wagamama was one of the first restaurants I’ve been to. It’s fuss free, it’s hearty and it’s cool. I am delighted with the expanded menu item to cater for many type of diners. Choices are important today for a F&B to succeed. Today’s order of Pho with chicken and collab dish of chicken rice was a match made in heaven. Right portion, balanced tastes, good kick with the spice and wok-hey smokey taste coming through the chicken - which is absolutely delicious.

No surprises. Chain restaurant and it looks and tastes as expected. The menu had new things which is always nice. I tried the new juice and it was delicious! The chicken katsu very tasty as usual. However, one of us ordered the extra chicken (this is a new thing) and it was £3 something for a tiny amount of chicken. Not worth it! Atmosphere is kinda loud, but it is ok. Restaurant was clean and the look is very modern and on brand. Service was friendly and efficient. I would recommend downloading the app as you can get discount and free things sometimes. You can collect stamps every time you eat.

I built my own donburi bowl, with a cauliflower rice base, beef, edamame, Asian slaw, coriander and pickled cucumber. The cucumber wasn’t pickled but it was a very delicious meal, low calorie too so felt very light but filling. The beef was very flavourful and soft. Definitely would get again. Chili squid great as always, but arrived after main meal even though it’s a starter? Service okay. Would eat here again.

Nestled in the heart of Soho, Patara Soho offers a delightful escape into the world of high-end modern Thai cuisine. With its minimalist yet authentically styled dining room, this restaurant creates an inviting atmosphere that enhances your culinary experience. Although part of a well-known chain with several locations across London, Patara stands out for its commitment to authenticity and quality.
I recently celebrated the New Year with friends at Patara in Soho, and it was an unforgettable experience. Our friend introduced us to the finest Thai cuisine—and it absolutely delivered. From the moment we stepped in, the warm and attentive service set the tone for the evening. The staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home and ensuring every detail was taken care of. As for the food, it was nothing short of spectacular. The Green Curry was a perfect harmony of spice and flavour, the Coconut Braised Beef melted in your mouth with its rich, creamy texture, and the Thai Milk Tea provided a delightful sweet touch to round off the meal. Every dish showcased authentic Thai flavours with a refined presentation. For anyone in Soho seeking an extraordinary culinary experience, Patara is the place to go. Absolutely outstanding!

Now restyled as Platapian (formerly Patara), it’s like a foodie tour of Thailand, from the north and Isan to the deep south. Spicy northern sai oua sausages, sublime crispy crab pancake (think soufflé stuffed with crab meat), delicately flavoured Isan duck salad, hearty five spice beef foreribs, razor clams with a kind of fusion prik pao sauce… and of course mango sticky rice with just the right level of saltiness in the coconut milk. Make sure to start with the chicken skins as a snack with cocktails (strikingly similar to pork scratchings, but with subtle flavour of lime leaf?). The ma krut (lime leaf) Collins is the perfect cocktail for a heatwave. Good wine choices. Super friendly service. Thank you for letting us crash your opening event 🙏. We’ll be back!

Amazing food and service as always at Patara. We went here 17 years ago on a date and still come back. The soft shell crab and mango salad is a must along with the prawn and lemongrass. The deep fried sea bass is also gorgeous. If you’re feeling greedy have the pineapple and seafood fried rice. I enjoyed the Durian dessert to satisfy my sweet tooth. Beautiful food and a wonderful service, thank you as always.

Platapian by Patara has a newly renovated, warm and contemporary space. The menu is a bit more expensive than before but worth it for the quality. We stopped by before the theater and tried a couple of dishes, both were very good. The manager and staff were friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely return to try more.

The food was A-MA-ZING!! My hub took me for a surprise birthday dinner here tonight and we had a really wonderful time. The staff sang a happy birthday while they brought out a dessert (I believe it was on the house) Napoleon exceeded his service for being charming and friendly and for always being attentive to customers needs. The staff were all very polite too.

The tastes and flavours at Platapian bring something genuinely new to the London scenr, a truer reflection of how Thai food is eaten in Thailand today, with dishes that follow current trends and regional inspirations. If you're looking for something more traditional, Patara is a solid alternative. The food at Platapian was fantast witheach dish felt unique, bold, and full of character. Dishes I had are pictured. Highlight was the rice with beef! I'm looking forward to visiting again to try the crab version!

Halal restaurant
The Original Lahore Kebab House is a renowned Pakistani restaurant located in Whitechapel, London. Since 1972, it has been serving authentic Pakistani cuisine in a casual cafe setting, attracting a diverse crowd of locals and tourists. The restaurant is famous for its mouthwatering dishes such as dry lamb curry, spiced chicken karahi, and legendary lamb chops. Despite its unassuming exterior, the food at Lahore Kebab House has earned national food awards and international acclaim.
My second time, this time with family. We came just after the lunch rush and it was near empty on the Saturday. The food is very good authentic home style cooked. Not overly rich. Simple food. Loved the chicken and lamb. The portions were not the biggest but OK. The mango lassi was a little expensive for a jug. But even so that is a minor point. The price point is a little high given the decor. But the overall experience is very good.

I recently visited this restaurant and had a great experience. The food was delicious, with excellent quality and a wide variety of dishes. In my opinion, this is one of the best places in London for Asian food lovers, including Pakistani, Bengali, and Indian cuisine.
Zahid O — Google review
I came with a friend on their recommendation and I loved it. It's not a fancy place though and it's popular so it does get busy and a bit noisy inside. We came on a Monday evening and we were able to get a table without waiting. As I can't tolerate too much spice, I went for the safe option of a mild butter chicken and ordered a side of the rogni nan. The food came pretty quickly and also with a complimentary side salad. The butter chicken tasted delicious and the rogni nan which I'd tried for the first time was the perfect accompaniment. The bread was a little thick and buttery and fairly big so it was enough to go with the curry and I didn't feel the need for any rice on top. One thing to note is that it is a cash only establishment so do make sure you have enough cash with you. I am still thinking of that rogni nan in particular, and I would definitely like to return.
Ai — Google review
Don't let first impressions fool you at this local gem. Sure, the neighborhood isn't the most picturesque, and the interior feels like it hasn't been updated since the 1990s. But step past the dated aesthetics, and you'll discover why this place has earned its reputation as a beloved institution in the Pakistani community. The chicken tikka masala here is exceptional – rich, aromatic, and clearly made with care. Each dish arrives bursting with authentic flavors that transport you straight to the subcontinent. The prices are refreshingly reasonable. A few practical notes for first-time visitors: they don't serve alcohol, but the BYOB policy means you can bring your favorite beer or wine. Come prepared with cash – while they technically accept cards, the reader has a habit of being "temporarily out of order." Fortunately, there's an ATM just around the corner for those caught off guard. In short, this isn't a place you'd bring someone to impress with ambiance, but if you're seeking genuine Pakistani cuisine at honest prices, it's hard to beat. Sometimes the best food comes from the most unassuming places, and this neighborhood institution proves that point beautifully

First time to this unassuming restaurant but won’t be the last. Fantastic lamb chops, dry meat curry and butter nan. Oh and the chicken korai went down a treat as did the mango lassi. Friendly staff and a nice relaxing atmosphere. No frills but one of the best lamb meals we’ve had.
Carol G — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality from Usman/Ozzy. His patience and honesty in explaining the dishes, and even catering to our spice level, made the experience extra special. The Mutton Tikka was hands down the best I’ve had in London...sizzling, distinctive, and bursting with authentic Lahore flavour. Succulent and cooked to perfection, it transported me straight to Pakistan and was even better than Tayyabs, Needoo or any other Lahore restaurants. The Lamb Haleem was equally unforgettable ...rich, mouth-watering, and perfectly balanced in flavour without overpowering spice plus generous lamb rather than daals and flour mix. The home-made rotis, made with mixed flour, were not thick or raw...so good they facilitated taste of curries rather than fill you with thick flour! The Saag Chicken was another standout – tender, juicy chicken enveloped in aromatic, perfectly seasoned fresh saag. What I loved most was that every dish was full of flavour rather than just heat – no “bum-burning” chilli, just pure, authentic taste. For me, Lahore Kebab House is simply unbeatable for Indian and Lahori food in London. Nowhere else comes close! Don't waste money anywhere else. Just try Mutton Tikka here you'll be craving for more!

The food is always excellent here. But today it was disappointing. The kebab roll tasted like it had been reheated and the meat was hard. Then the waiter got our food wrong . But I will go back another day and try again 😁

Authentic Japanese restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Tokyo Diner is a popular Japanese eatery in London, known for its simple yet delicious offerings. The diner serves a variety of traditional Japanese dishes such as sushi, bento boxes, noodles, and curries at reasonable prices. It's a favorite among locals and Japanese expats seeking authentic flavors. The bento boxes allow diners to sample different items from the menu while the hearty meals with rice or noodles are perfect for warming up during the London winter.
Me and the whole family came here today after a day out visiting London. As Asian food is our absolute favourite food of all to eat we had a walk through china town to find somewhere nice to eat. After having a good look around and reading menus. We decided to give this lovely little restaurant a try. Even though this restaurant appears small inside. We sat down comfortably with 5 of us which included 3 children and a buggy. We was given complimentary tea, water and nibbles as soon as we sat down. We all ordered our favourite dishes to eat and our food arrived in around ten minutes. My daughter does not know how to use chopsticks but the server took the time to show my daughter which was fantastic. The food, well what can I say other than wow. The food was absolutely fantastic. The katsu curry was amazing. The chicken was perfectly coated with crispy batter and the chicken was so nice and juicy. The curry was amazing and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. The broth that the udon noodles was served in was also delicious. The sushi was also fantastic with really fresh fish. Our baby made a right mess with the sushi rice and was throwing it on the floor and our daughter accidentally knocked a bowl of the table and it smashed (we do really apologise for this) and I always clean up if our children make a mess. However they was insistent that I left it and they would clean up. Our baby loves sushi and he ate so much. I think the staff were even surprised to see a baby enjoying their sushi. It was an absolute pleasure dining in your restaurant today. We will definitely be back next time when we are in London. Thank you for the amazing food 😃

Tokyo Diner is one of my favourite places in London! I’ve never tried better Japanese food in my life (haven’t been to Japan YET)! You simply cannot visit Chinatown and not visit this hidden gem! Delicious food! Absolutely gorgeous and very generous portions too! You get complimentary tea with the meal and it’s delicious too! I recommend trying the plum wine as well - it’s sweet, refreshing and so easy to drink! Everything I tried from the menu was amazing, but my favourite was Tofu Katsu Curry! I can’t wait to go back!

Small Japanese restaurant that feels like stepping into Japan, really authentic and tastes like homemade. Service is friendly and they give you free green tea, which is one thing I really miss from Japan, I love drinking green tea with my meals!! I want to try the curry next time. The tofu was delicious.

We were out fairly late around the Leicester Square–Chinatown area. We were looking for a suitable restaurant, but many were already closed, kirchen closed or looked empty. Luckily, we ended up at Tokyo Diner. Even though we didn’t share much of a common language, we quickly got a table upstairs and bottles of Sapporo beer to quench our thirst. My Chicken Katsu Curry was tasty, and my companion’s Udon noodle dish was excellent. The restaurant has a slightly worn feel, but it was clean. This is a place that serves good Japanese food at a reasonable price.

Authentic Japanese ambiance right in the heart of Chinatown! The food was delicious with generous portions, and the service was impressively fast. A lovely touch was the waitress serving tea during dinner—it really added to the experience. Great value for the price. A perfect spot if you're feeling nostalgic for Japanese cuisine.
Elena T — Google review
We went for dinner on a Thursday evening and the place was lively and full, but not in a stressful way. There was no wait for a table. The atmosphere felt really authentic to Japan (at least compared to the places I’ve been), and overall very calm. We were greeted with hot green tea as soon as we sat down, which was a nice touch. Service was great too. What we ordered: 1. Gyū Don (rice bowl with thinly sliced beef and onions simmered in a sweet soy sauce). It was good, but more expensive than other places even though the quality was about the same. In Japan it’s more of a cheap, casual dish, so the price stood out. You could ask for extra rice for free, though, which was nice. 2. Hot soba with toppings (you can choose from a good range of selection). The dashi/broth was tasty - salty, but in a good way. The noodles were excellent. The vegetable tempura was good, but the soy-marinated egg wasn’t as runny or flavorful as others I’ve had. Each topping also costs between £1-£5. Overall, both dishes tasted authentic and good. The atmosphere was spot on, the food came quickly, and the bill arrived with the meal (no pressure to tip).

Quiet little diner giving Tokyo street vibes. We went there after pottering around the city. My partner got the vegetarian Katsu curry and I got the chicken Katsu curry. The quantity was great and the curry was hearty and had potatoes in it. My partner enjoyed her meal. It's hard to find good vegetarian options but this was definitely great. Will definitely recommend.

Nestled in the heart of London, Japan Centre is a delightful haven for anyone craving authentic Japanese culture and cuisine. With over 40 years of experience, this vibrant establishment began as a bookstore and has since blossomed into a multifaceted destination featuring an impressive supermarket, restaurant, and bakery. Visitors can indulge in freshly made sushi or savor unique treats like pon de ring doughnuts from the Mochi Bar—crafted with a special blend of rice flour and wheat flour for that perfect chewy texture.
Very authentic and tasty food. The costs were good as well. Many many people were eating here as well whilst we were there. Definitely a great sign. Remember this is a food court in a supermarket. It is not a restaurant. If you understand this, you will know what you are going to get and will appreciate it more.

Been here many, many times over the years, even when it was in a previous location. Located very close to Leicester Square. The main store is in the basement. It really is a great place to buy a variety of different Japanese produce, food, drinks, stationary, magazines, etc. The fresh food is amazing, can't fault it, especially the sashimi. You can also eat in but it's not a huge seating area so you'll be lucky to get a seat at peak times. The sake selection is really good, it's where I usually get mine from. The overall costs can be a bit pricey but usually worth it. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

Japan Centre in Leicester Square is… okay. It looks great and has a nice atmosphere, but it’s pretty pricey for what it is. Most of the food is pre-made and just heated up, so it doesn’t feel particularly fresh. The portions are on the smaller side, and for the cost, you’d expect a bit more quality. You can get better value — and more authentic, freshly prepared dishes — at places like Eat Tokyo. Worth checking out once, but not somewhere I’d rush back to. Good thing there’s a supermarket there so you can buy snacks and eat with your meal 🍜🍱🍙

I love this Japan Center (JC). It’s my go to spot to buy rare to find match powder, and for this I suggest going super early in the morning. It also has amazing meal deals, or cheap and amazing tasting Onigiri. There’s also bar where you can order their matcha based products and lattes.. hands down one of the best I’ve ever had in London. They also have outside seating, which is nice when it’s sunny outside. This JC has all the products you can imagine, even Wagyu, high quality cut fish and more, sushi included. Overall, I highly recommend this JC if you are looking for hard to find matcha and other niche products at a fair price.

One of my favourite places. I buy ramen and stock. It satisfies my cravings, and is great since I don't go out to eat ramen any more. I love all the other items they stock, like kitchenware, magazines and sashimi. I actually haven't bought any, but it's cool to look at them. If you need Japanese groceries, this is brilliant, though some items are cheaper in Chinatown. The takeaway is great too. I've had the gyoza and yakitori chicken skewers, though it was ages ago.

I saw the Harrison Webb review and thought I’d try this - walked to Panton street branch from my office (10mins) - ordered a Pork Katsu , paid , presented with a bag got back to my office - and no pork …. Just rice - contacted customer service , instead of quickly resolving the issue they said they’d send an email to the restaurant- I’ve had no lunch and frankly this is how to lose customers - mistakes happen but it’s how you recover that counts - very poor (and the place / food honestly looks great)
Rob A — Google review
The Japan Centre is my of my most frequently visited places in London. Its location has changed over the years but it’s been at its Panton Street location for awhile There’s a small takeaway food section upstairs but the main part of the store is downstairs. There, you will find a wealth of Japanese related things. Lots of cookery items including fresh miso and refrigerated veg and tofu. There are pre-packed bowls of food as well as an eat in restaurant section with ramen, etc. My favourite section is the fresh sushi and wagyu beef counters where they will slice sashimi to order - hard to beat top class sashimi as a treat. There’s also a small bakery and bookshop

Koya Soho is a cozy Japanese restaurant in London, known for its simple cafe-style setting and delicious udon noodles. The flagship Soho location offers an intimate dining experience with communal tables where patrons can savor the signature handmade udon noodles, which are fresh and perfectly springy. The menu features options like cold udon and hot udon with dashi broth, accompanied by choices such as mixed seaweeds, pork and miso, or duck and vegetable hotpot.
I think there was only counter seating inside and two tables outside. I was trying to rest my tired stomach after a recent disordered diet (pre-trip binge eating) and needed some real Japanese food, so I think I was right to come here. I ordered mini udon soup. The soup was light in color and flavorful. It was very tasty and warmed my body and soul.
Macaron — Google review
Koya is a small Japanese spot tucked away in the heart of Soho, offering chef/ kitchen counter seating for around 20 people. The atmosphere is casual, and they open early, though the menu before 12pm is quite limited—mainly breakfast items and a small selection of udon dishes.Three chefs were working behind the counter during my visit. I ordered the curry udon with grilled vegetables. Unfortunately, the dish was underwhelming. The vegetables—okra, fennel, aubergine, spring onion shoots—were fibrous, sparse, and didn’t add much to the plate. The curry sauce was overly thick and starchy, lacking balance. The portion of noodles was Over-generous almost turning it into a dish filler, but it felt mismatched with the meagre amount of vegetables. Service left a lot to be desired. Food was handed over the counter without much interaction, and one of the waiters repeatedly brushed against me without a single apology. I eventually had to ask for the service charge to be removed. Overall, it was a disappointing visit. The food was below average, and its was overpriced and poor value. The lack of basic ingredients—especially vegetables, which are inexpensive—felt careless. I won’t be returning or recommending Koya.

Julia C — Google review
A lovely Japanese spot in the heart of Soho. The food was fantastic! Especially the grilled fish, which is well worth trying. Everything tasted fresh and properly prepared. Service was a bit on the slow side, and we had to wait a while for the bill, even though it wasn’t too busy. Still, it’s fairly priced for the area and a great alternative for breakfast or a light meal.
Maria F — Google review
Great spot for lunch. Loved the authentic counter seating, not the best for a dinner date but superb for a solo lunch hideaway. The beef don was really nice but I’m used to having more sauce as I had in Japan, but this isn’t Japan so it’s unfair to compare. It’s still good though. Overall, great location for a lunch spot.
Kay T — Google review
I came specifically to Koya for their prawn tempura udon which was shown on the lunch menu. I arrived slightly before 12pm which was still their breakfast menu time. I didn’t argue — I even ordered a breakfast soup noodle first and waited until 12pm so I could order the prawn tempura. At 12pm when I asked to order it, the staff told me I’m not allowed to order prawn tempura as a topping, and instead I must order a whole full portion. I asked politely if I could at least take away the extra if I can’t finish it (since they were forcing me to order an entire separate dish). The lady then told me they do not provide any takeaway containers at all. The entire interaction made me feel extremely unwelcome, rigidly policed, and honestly punished for trying to order what’s actually on their menu. Totally ruined my experience. Bad service attitude + absolutely inflexible. I left feeling mad and disappointed. Definitely not coming back.
KarThong S — Google review
Went and had nice udon. Food was amazing. Authentic food and vibes. Although the service was a bit mixed experience. After we paid, they hold us off. We waited at the entrance for few minutes, wondering what went wrong. They said we paid the correct amount but the waiter put it to the wrong table. So not our fault and we paid extra for some reasons (should be £72 but was asked £74). The one who paid extra was offered tea, but we were in a hurry so we declined. Thus low service rating. Maybe just one off.

An Absolute Gem: Ken Cafe & Restaurant! We recently had the pleasure of dining at Ken Cafe and Restaurant, and it was a truly fantastic experience from start to finish. Excellent. The food was just incredible, packed with flavour, perfectly cooked and you’d have no idea it was vegan or gluten free. The croquettes were crunchy, the sticky tofu was epic and the truffle pasta was to die for. Cannot recommend enough ! The server was really kind and even went and checked the ingredients of a dish so i could recreate it at home. I hope they bring out a recipe book one day !

This food was absolutely delicious. The dishes were some of the best vegetable focused (rather than imitation meat) dishes I’ve had and is probably one of my favourite vegan restaurants I’ve been to in London. The staff were incredibly friendly and the interior was nice. Their chai latte was also great which is hard to find in London. Would highly recommend.

The food here is exceptional! The food was delicious as well as beautifully presented. The main dishes were a good size - I loved my miso aubergine which was rich and filling. Service was very good. The restaurant was not very busy at 2pm on a weekday so our server gave us the choice of where to sit and even pulled an extra table over to give us more space. I was so impressed. We will return!

I must admit that when I saw how quiet KIN was compared to the other restaurants nearby, I regretted my reservation. However I definitely should not have. My starter (house style aubergine) was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant, and the others in my group also thoroughly enjoyed theirs (croquettes and corn soup). The service was extremely understanding and helpful when I told them about my nut allergy and brought me a different menu. For my main I chose the truffle rosso pasta due to my allergy. The sauce was quite nice - my complaint would be that the pasta was slightly too soft and was falling apart which was likely due to its being gluten free so I understand that was probably unavoidable. The portions were huge so unfortunately I had no space for dessert, but my companions said the black forest tart was fantastic. Highly recommend KIN; favourite dishes were the aubergine and corn soup small plates.

The menu options were very creative and we really enjoyed the flavours we tasted during our dinner! The atmosphere was great as well, as the interior is adorable and cosy. The only issue was the size of the portions which tended towards a smaller size, especially for the gnocchi dish and the avocado key lime cheesecake.

We visited this restaurant for lunch over the weekend with my husband, and it was a wonderful experience. We’ve been to another branch before and the food is always fantastic – and this visit was no exception! The menu has a great selection, and everything we’ve tried has been really tasty and full of flavor. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, just as we’ve come to expect. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We would definitely come back again and highly recommend this place to anyone. If you haven’t tried this type of cuisine before, it’s a great introduction – delicious, flavorful food and excellent service every time.

Visited this branch for the second time. The food was at a good standard. Karage was juicy and crispy. I would recommend their karage. The ramen was good. I found the soup a bit salty, but my friend felt okay. So I guess it's just personal preference! The staff Isha was really nice and helped me with the door. All the staff were checking allergies before ordering, which was a good practice.

Went after beers with friends for dinner as they had 40% off deal. This branch is located in the quieter side of town but was packed inside. Had to wait 10 mins for a table. Book if you can. Inside decor looked dated and was very stuffy. Tables were stuffed in every corner and bar seats added next to every flat surface to maximise capacity. Really uncomfortable. There was a table where you turn left into the second room clearly shouldn't be there. On to the food. Waitress was super nice and accommodating and very chatty. Ordered starters and mains. The starts were very good. Prawn tempura and fried chicken was v.good. The ramen special we order came out lukewarm and soup base tasted like it was diluted. No texture or flavour. Watery mess. Really disappointing. Char siu 3-4 thin slices. Should be thicker imo. Mediocre toppings. Thanks for the discount. Won't be returning to this branch. Recommend you put on some background music to mask the stale air.

I entered on a very cold and windy day needing something to warm me up to go on with my walk and... Man, oh man. My miso wafu chicken was excellent! The broth was one of the best I've tried, the noodles were perfectly cooked, the chicken crispy and delicious and surrounded with so much goodness from the ginger. The service was kind and the atmosphere was pleasant to stay a bit longer after I finished. I'd definitely come back.

It’s always a mistake to expect much from chain restaurants, and Shoryu is the perfect example. They market themselves as an authentic ramen specialist, proudly tracing their roots to Hakata in Japan, but the reality is far from it. I ordered the "Kimchi Prawn Natural" previously called the Kimchi Seafood Natural which arrived with four pieces of frozen prawn that had an unpleasant texture . To make things worse, the broth was lukewarm at best and lacked any depth of flavor except saltiness and some chalky spicy paste , It’s clear Shoryu has been on a steady decline, and it’s no surprise their locations are shutting down. There’s something genuinely disrespectful about serving chalky, tepid broth and calling it authentic. Maybe it passes for tourists who don’t know what real ramen should taste like, but if you’ve ever had a truly hot, flavourful bowl of noodle soup anywhere in the world , you’ve already outgrown what Shoryu offers especially at £16.90 per bowl!

I had such a great experience at this ramen shop! The food was absolutely delicious — the broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles had the perfect texture, and everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. You can really tell they care about the quality of their ingredients. I also want to give a special shoutout to Julia on the staff — she was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Her friendly attitude and helpful recommendations really stood out. Thank you, Julia! Highly recommend this place if you're looking for authentic, satisfying ramen and great service. I’ll definitely be back!

Went to this location on a random Wednesday night and was seated immediately, yay!. There appeared to only be one server for the entire restaurant so ordering took a while. I got the Miso Ramen. While the broth was delicious, it only had a half an egg and one sprig of bok choy. The pork belly cuts were too thick and overcooked. Noodles were nicely cooked. So overall, just average.

YO! Bond Street is a vibrant chain eatery offering a variety of Japanese dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options. The restaurant prides itself on using authentic ingredients, some sourced directly from Japan. From classic chicken katsu curry to glazed aubergine nigiri, there's something for everyone to enjoy either dining in or for takeout. Additionally, guests can participate in sushi-making classes led by expert chefs and receive complimentary drinks.
We had a lovely meal in this surprisingly peaceful sushi restaurant tucked behind an exceptionally crowded Oxford Street. The children really enjoyed the teriyaki chicken, which was kindly made for us without chillies, and they also loved the pancakes with tangy raspberry coulis. The original salmon plate is delicious, with sticky rice and delicate sweet salmon. Note the sticker is the time not the price! The salmon is yellow which means £8.95. Lovely time. Delighted we came here.

Title: Disappointing Experience Despite Good Food My recent visit to Yo Sushi on Bond Street was a mixed bag. On the positive side, the food was delicious, and the conveyor belt was a fun and unique attraction. However, the overall experience was marred by several significant issues. First and foremost, the ladies' restroom was absolutely disgusting. The stench was unbearable, and there were hairs stuck to the walls. It was truly off-putting. Additionally, there was a trash bin placed right in the middle of the restaurant, which was both unsightly and unhygienic. Despite having a reservation and there being plenty of available seats, we were offered the worst table in the restaurant. The menus were sticky and quite dirty, making them unpleasant to handle. To top it off, the staff was not particularly friendly or attentive, and we were not informed about the sushi flat rate, which we would have appreciated knowing about. Overall, while the food was enjoyable, the cleanliness and service at this location leave much to be desired. I hope these issues are addressed, as they significantly detract from what could have been a great dining experience.

We did a sushi making lesson. It was loads of fun. The teacher was great with the kids and really warm and friendly. Great family activity. You get food to eat while there and you take away your own sushi in a platter.

One of the most amazing and relaxing space for sushi ever. Booked a sushi class and the staff was so kind and encouraging. The instructor was so good and sushi tasted delicious. For a beginner who know nothing about making sushi, i made these delicious ones and took some home as well. Everyone loved it.

First time at a sushi bar because I don’t like raw fish but friends persuaded me to try and actually I didn’t need to worry at all. There were plenty to choose from. The plates were big portions too. Loved the green goodness gyoza ramen from the main menu. The staff were super helpful and they had a sushi making workshop on at the time which looked fun. It’s quite small and cosy and perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Definitely recommend this place.

First time in a Yo! Sushi 🍣 Loved it! Ordered from the menu as well as taking off the conveyor belt. Espia, and the other lady (sorry, didn't get your name) were very helpful and patient. Spent over £10 and (supposedly) got a free bento box as part of the "kids eat free" holiday deal. Edited: be sure to check your bill before paying - ours was on the servers tablet and so I never got to see what we were paying for. When we got back to the hotel, I totted up what we had ordered and it was way off (less) than we paid. They also offer 20% discount for submitting a review of Google before you pay.

Udon noodle restaurant
Koya City is a delightful culinary gem nestled in the bustling Bloomberg Arcade, just a stone's throw from Bank station. This stylish venue specializes in udon noodles, offering an impressive selection of 36 varieties that cater to every palate. The atmosphere is reminiscent of downtown Tokyo, making it a perfect spot for busy professionals seeking a quick yet satisfying meal. Among the highlights is their unique English breakfast udon featuring fried egg, bacon, and shiitake mushrooms—a must-try!
at one point I feel like I am in Tokyo instead of London. some of the dishes are above Tokyo standard. just look at the attached the photos. all the stuff are worth to try. of coz the udon is one of the best. staff are super friendly. nothing to complain. all good.

Authentic udon noodles restaurant near the Bank Station. A bowl of cold udon with cold broth or cold dipping sauce is simply the perfect lunch option for a hot summer day. I enjoy the texture of their udon noodles a lot which are chewy and bouncy.

What a place this is! From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re transported to an authentic Japanese restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff and we sat at one of the bar tables. From here you have a full panoramic view of the open kitchen, watching everyone busily prepare food. Everything was cooked with precision and care whilst presentation was second to none. The food was delicious, and well seasoned with a range of different sauces and herbs for accompaniment. Nothing was over powering on the pallet and everything was cooked to perfection. I recommend if you get the chance to also sample their Sake tasting board. 3 small shots of different sake to try. Personally I’m not a drinker, but I found these samples to be amazing and I’m glad I had that experience. The duck in their duck kamo was tender and melted in the mouth. Would definitely look to come back again next time in London.

The starters we ordered were a major let down: The cucumber & seaweed salad was bland and watery with no real taste, the fried prawns heads again had no seasoning and tasted of nothing other than oil (had to season myself with the chilli powder provided on each table) and finally the ‘special’ grilled octopus was again bland and appeared to just be boiled not grilled. However the udon dishes themselves were amazingly delicious. I had ordered the spiced cumin lamb udon - the amount of flavour that packed was top quality. Will be back to just try the other udon dishes for sure. Service was quality and attentive and the vibe of the restaurant was great!!

Good food, nice vibe, ok value, ok service. I finally finished my quest in going to all 3 Koya locations: Soho, Hackney and City to get that pink t-shirt for Koya's 15th birthday. City is the closest one from me so I go to the city branch last. The venue is very nice, right in the middle of the city, bloomberg and st Paul. Prime location. The indoor seating is very spacious and comfy but still keeping the authentic koya vibe. Had half udon and prawn tempura. The tempura is so crisp, I really like it. After getting udon in the other branch I know my portion is smaller than the regular so half is enough for me. The broth is very nice, clear yet umami. £11.5 for dinner in city, not bad.
Ulfa O — Google review
With the cold weather setting in, my wife and I were looking for some comfort eats in London and came across Koya serving authentic and creative takes on udon noodle soups from Japan. We started our meal with slow braised rice wine pork belly and agedashi tofu from their specials menu. We followed the starters with thin-cut pork belly served in udon noodle soup. The flavors from the pork and udon were absolutely delicious! If you’re looking for good udon and braised pork belly in the city with Japanese cuisine flavors, I highly recommend Koya.
John G — Google review
What a big disappointment on my visit. I cannot believe the price and the quality presented are so bad. Start of with the starter. The portion is so small and its barely a bite to share between people. And they charge 9.9 for some veg which is still freezing cold = straight out from the fridge. It doesnt even cost much if you double the portion. Pork belly is the only normal dishes, however its still not tender enough. A good pork belly should not even need to use your teeth to tear apart, it should be melting in your mouth. The grill octopus - I cannot believe how rip off this dish is charging people £17.10 for 5 pieces of chewing gum considering how thin the slices are. The veg next to it is seasoned with some miso, mustard, yuzu lemon and it is so salty, it is almost sea water salty and you cant even finish it with those jam thick sauce. Given £17 you should at least give a leg of octopus instead of few pieces of chewing gum to serve to your customer especially it doesn’t taste good at all. The udon is also big disappointment charging 16.90 for a small udon, rockets coriander, and a small scoop of lamb mince. In terms of portion, I cannot believe how small it is. We paid £17 and you give me a scoop of lamb mince that probably cost you less than 10p??? Rockets and coriander - what kind of japanese culture serve these two with udon? You just put some cheap veg to make the colour looks good on the udon? The udon itself is not even marugame quality and they sell it for just less than £6. I have rarely given any restaurants a one star review in my entire google review journey but this is definitely one of the most overrated, overhyped, overpriced, undeserving restaurants that I have ever visited. It is a disgrace to the Japanese culture if you serve this kind of food to any customer. I would not ever visit again and I strongly suggest the management need to review their price, quality, quantity. What a big disappointment. Overall we spent more than £36 per person for these.

The menu offers a variety of options, including gluten-free soy sauce upon request. In addition to sushi, the restaurant also serves delicious dishes like Katsu curry and cucumber rolls. Customers appreciate the generous portion sizes and high-quality ingredients at reasonable prices compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area.

Ordered the duck bento and had this delivered. The portion was good, though pricey for what it is, almost £22. For the price i would have expected the duck to be nice and juicy since this is the only thing in the bento box that requires cooking (everything else is usually prepped beforehand). Instead it seemed like the duck was reheated and therefore, overcooked. I did enjoy the overall flavour but the duck was a massive letdown. The sushi and sashimi is decent, i especially liked the sushi rice itself. This is usually what makes a good sushi spot. Plenty of veg, beansprouts were nice but the shredded carrots were hard and dry. Would be cautious about ordering for delivery. I’ll have to try dining in next time.

Ordered delivery via Uber eats and they had promotion on. I chose Chicken teriyaki don but can only choose Double portion (+£3) instead of the normal price (£13.5). The sauce is nice, but chicken is way too dry as if it was put in the microwave just before delivery. Not so tasty & not worth the value.

This is definitely one of my favourite restaurants. The food is just perfect, it makes me cream just thinking about it- I don’t know how else to put it😂 But seriously, the food is so fresh, well plated Flavour is 1000/10, everything just merges perfectly. I’d recommend the tempura California roll but I’ve had many different dishes and they’re all as good as the next. It’s not even too Pricey for the quality and quantity of food but it makes sense the food is top notch! Thank you Taro!

This is a really nice Japanese restaurant, a clear standout for the Kennington neighbourhood. Clean restaurant, polite servers, extensive menu, and good food for a reasonable price. I ordered the double chicken teriyaki don but I wish I had ordered the bento set which comes with sashimi and other sides. I will do that next time I visit. They open 12pm to 10pm every day. Cannot recommend it enough for a friendly neighbourhood restaurant. I saw them packing food to go as well so you can probably find them on food delivery platforms.

M and D Japanese Deptford is a small restaurant with limited seating, offering a variety of traditional Japanese dishes such as sushi rolls, bento boxes, and kitchen entrees. The establishment is known for its flavorful and reasonably priced food. It offers five varieties of curry on the menu and serves Halal Japanese food. Customers praise the friendly staff, quick service, fresh and delicious food, as well as the quiet and laid-back atmosphere. The restaurant also provides takeaway options.
Best sushi in London 🍣 We have been back to M&D twice now and both visits the food has been absolutely delicious. We love their sushi so fresh and tasty. We love their crunchy roll deal for £7 for a gorgeous portion of sushi. Affordable, satisfying and the staff are very welcoming. Would greatly recommend. We’ll be back soon!

I will leave my original underneath This was my favourite restaurant in Deptford. There are 2 chefs - I'm leaving the review below for him! The other the older man has just ensured I won't be going again - maybe after I stop being angry and ONLY if the younger chef is working! I have been raving to all and sundry about the wakame salad. Today I ordered three, to take with us travelling tomorrow. I bought containers because theirs are shit and they leak. The salads were iceberg lettuce with a smattering of the actual wakame mix on top - I would estimate the ration about 75/35! The grill duck can only be described as meagre in relation to what I have had at every meal in there and take away. There was not a single vegetable, just duck on the ubiquitous iceberg/ And the last 2 sushi rolls were pretty much empty Do you really think you can get away with that just cos it's take away. So Angry. So gutted. Another one bites the dust! Original review: Atmosphere - mwah. You come, you create your own and you may. They don't charge corkage and you can byob/w. The food is spectacular, the service is excellent, the value is mind blowing. I love the duck! Everything with duck - yakisoba, sushi rolls, grilled The wakame salad is the BEST I have EVER had

One of my favourite places in the whole of South London. Not too busy and even when it is, it's very calm and a relaxed place. Food is brilliant and the chicken katsu curry is always my go-to meal for whenever I'm feeling down or stressed, always brings my mood back up. The lunchtime deal between 12:00 and 15:00 makes the meals very affordable. Also food is halal.

Lovely little local Japanese restaurant, nice atmosphere. The food is delicious, sushi is fresh and the crispy rolls are to die for. You wouldn't know it is there, but once you discover it,you'll definitely go back for more! Very affordable compared to other Japanese in the area

Hit and miss, recently mostly miss. Ordered a big vegetable roll and was charged £10 for it, mostly raw cabbage with lettuce as a filling, 90% overcooked rice. No soy sauce no wasabi no ginger. The tofu yakisoba is very sour, no sauce but oil. The tofu was the best part of it. On the menu it says 5 nigiri, received 4. Disappointing for sure

Unassuming little takeaway from the outside, M and D reveals spotlessly clean inside decor with comfy and spacious diner seats, immediately creating a convivial atmosphere. You order at the counter and the food is freshly made for you. Tasty and well presented, priced very well for London, this serendipitous find is now marked in my “must come back” list.
Ingrid M — Google review
I have no idea why the food I bought for takeaway looked completely different than on other reviews. The food is a massive disappointment. Garlic beef is a joke as I got like few pieces of saggy beef and some very bad looking salad. Portion size is impossible and I wonder if they would serve that in the actual place. Food in the restaurant was looking good so I have a feeling someone took advantage that I came and ordered takeaway not through the portal. Gyoza have no sauce and look nothing but off. Salmon sushi is okay but nothing special. Tempura salmon sushi is not eatable. Spend 24£ for something which goes to the bin.

Prices: very, very decent without compromising the quality. Especially their £5 lunch specials ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sushi restaurant
Kurumaya is a stylish sushi bar and Japanese restaurant in London. It offers a unique dining experience with its minimalist design, including a conveyor belt for quick lunches upstairs and a sunken Tatami seating area in the basement. The establishment has gained popularity due to its competent chefs, delectable dishes, and impressive selection of wines. Customers appreciate the boat presentation of the sushi, which adds to the overall charm of Kurumaya.
The restaurant is in a very busy neighbourhood with St. Paul's just around the corner. Once you pass all the buzzing pubs and restaurants, and you step into this Kurumaya, you are immediately captured in a very quiet and calm even homey environment. The menu is extensive with everything you wish to see in a Japanese restaurant. We tried sushi sashimi, beef rice bowl, mixed tempura plate, miso soup, tofu etc. Everything is delicious but lack of a wow factor. Price is reasonable. Good for a quick work lunch.

Their miso soup is a bit sweet, same goes with the Katsu Don. I would like to try their Katsu curry next time. The ground level is more like a takeaway place and also for conveyor belt sushi
R V — Google review
It was fun watching sushi going around on the belt conveyor. The restaurant has table service downstairs and a take away section at the entrance as well as the belt conveyor counter. Sushi and other dishes are on the different colour plates indicating it's prices. Orange £3.50 Red £3.90 Green £4.50 Blue £4.90 Pink £5.50 Yellow £5.90 Most cooked dishes from the kitchen were on the yellow plates and I thought they were good value as long as you pick them up while it's still hot. Most dishes including sushi are on the belt without top covers for the first few rounds, and I found them unhygienic. Sushi chefs in the corner were friendly, though they are very busy making all sushi for takeaway, downstairs tables as well as the belt conveyor counter. You'll get your bill from a staff, and pay at the till by the entrance. Be aware that the service charge is astonishingly high even for the city standards. It is 20%! For pick up by yourself sushi and pay at the till, I think it is outrageous. I don't think bringing a drink and counting the plates and writing it down isn't worth 20%. Or am I mean to think that way. Prawn tempura was good, machareal sushi was good, others I had weren't. One experience was enough for me.
Miki B — Google review
The sunken table area is quite cool downstairs but we sat at a normal table. The atmosphere was super off with it being dead quiet with no music. Just an awkward atmosphere. The salmon sashimi was really good, super fresh! I had a rice bowl with steak as my main and it was just okay- it was pretty bland and could’ve done with a sauce, there was just so so much pickled ginger as well, it would’ve been nice to have some other veg. The waitress was amazing, super lovely and she was concerned when we left loads of food at the end but we were just so full!
Sonia A — Google review
Re: Friday 4th August evening Food was good and I feel the pricing was fair for a central London restaurant. Seating was downstairs. A little too cozy. It's nice they give you the option to sit at the tables or on the sunken floor area that requires slippers. The waitress was fantastic and did a great job working by herself, tending to all tables and checking in on us. They are lucky to have her! Bad look to see who I got the impression of the owner sitting at a table drinking and looking unfriendly or helpful. Unfortunately, the condition of the one toilet available was atrocious. For this reason we will not come back. I forgot to take an image of the sink- it would be impossible to wash hands if someone were to use the urinal which is in front of it. I do not think I would feel comfortable bringing children into that toilet without waiting for them. There is no excuse to have it in the condition it is and this could be renovated over a weekend. They are closed on the weekends so that baffles me even more. The majority of the floor tiles are loose. Additionally, the amount of fruit flies in the toilet and restaurant needs to be addressed. I'm sure this goes against many H&S standards. Disappointed to say the least.

The most terrible service that I encountered in London! I went there for dinner with my friend. The lady gave us the menu and asked what we would like to have. We said we would like to have 2 grilled chicken wings first and we needed a few minutes for drinks and other food. The lady said it would take an hour for grilled chicken wings. There were only 5 customers in the restaurant (including 2 of us), and frankly, I really doubted what the chicken wings would look like after grilling for an hour. Anyway, we said it's ok as we could wait while choosing for drinks and other dishes. After a few minutes, the lady came and said they actually didn't have chicken wing. Well ... I said no worries and we could order drinks then. We would like to order a bottle of Hakkaisan sake and the lady said they didn't have it, they only had sparkling sake. This could only make us leave the restaurant and pick another one for dinner. My 2 cents for the restaurant: 1. Revamp the dinner menu and remove the items which are not served at all or 2. Only open for lunch if most of the items for dinner are not available

This place had been on our list for a while. Maybe this place is better at lunch - but tonight the restaurant floor was dirty (not great when we had to get down to your socks); no heating and a few spiders crawling around. The toilets were mostly out of order, had no lights, a small candle in the cubicle (and cables hanging out the roof and bulbs in the corner) and had to use to phone torch to wash hands. The waitress was lovely and more than helpful. But this didn’t make up for the food we sent back - stringy, dry and tough pork. We won’t go back - but maybe this is great for a lunch spot or for a takeaway.

I received this as a recommendation and due to my avoidance of carbs yakatori is perfect for me. I went in with high expectations and unfortunately Jidori fell a little flat, although it was good food it wasn't exceptional and all the dishes were missing that final punch of flavour. The seaweed sprinkled fried chicken wings were the stand out dish as they had a great favour and were delicately battered. Everything else was pleasant but was just to monotone.
Tom C — Google review
The yakitoris weren’t great, the seasonings were mostly too sweet or salty, and the chicken skin with cartilage was bitter. It’s a shame because there aren’t a lot of yakitori places in london and I was really excited. The rice soaked in chicken soup saved it, otherwise a 2. Good service.

Really lovely place, great yakitori, interesting sides and really fantastic service. The desserts were amazing!!! This is perhaps a weird comment but the place is really dimly lit and I felt the lighting was too dark. The only dish I felt like could use improvement was the sweet potato starter - i wasn’t a fan of cold sweet potato and egg. It felt like the dish should be hot.

The food is delicious and there are so many vegan options but the service was a DISASTER. Our waitress was new and I'm not sure if she or the kitchen is to blame but all the food took over 1.5hrs to arrive with the first plate arriving in 20 mins, the rest after an hour, more after 1 hr 15 mins and one of hour poor friends had to wait 1 hr 30 mins to get her food. Some people were eating rice alone. Shameful, honestly. They even charge 13.5% service.

Decent curry scotch eggs and salmon don (using Loch duart salmon!) but I was slightly disappointed with the Yakitori don. The name Jodori means local chicken and I was hoping they would put more effort on chicken dishes🤔 I will try their evening menu and see if it’s any better😋🍺

Best salmon sashimi donburi I have ever had! The lemonade is also very tasty and the lunch deal is great value. I really recommend this place and you can also book for karaoke.
Giulia K — Google review
It was simple dinner yet wonderful experience. I ordered plenty of food and portions were big enough for me, especially considering Japanese meal portions are usually smaller. Yakitori (ordered breast and mushrooms) was delicious, rice was as expected. I ordered sake as drink and ginger ice cream as desert. The only improvement point might be reducing the sugar amount of ginger sauce of the ice cream. Other than that it was not an expensive restaurant considering how much i ate! Definetly come back!

Hoshi, also known as Katsu Wraps, is a popular pop-up spot at Petticoat Market in London. The staff at Hoshi warmly welcomes visitors and guides them through the menu, offering a variety of wraps and rice options. Customers rave about the delicious Katsu Wraps with an array of free extras like salads, hummus, and homemade sauces. The fast and friendly service ensures that the queue moves quickly.
Head before peak time and the boss lady may be nice enough to give you a large wrap for only £4. Delicious crunchy meal for such a great price. How can you not love it?
Rovik R — Google review
Very pleased with the quality of food here. Had the duck wrap. They have very fresh looking fillings and hygienic looking place. Great value for money and you get a huge foot long wrap with your choice of katsu meat. Great location just between all the main places of Shoreditch, City, Old Street. Good alternative to Boxpark for street food fanatics. I will stop ny again!
Rosana E — Google review
This place if great. The Katsu Wraps are delicious with a fantastic range of free extras from every salad imaginable to humus and a selection of home made sauces (be warned, the made chili is hot!). Fast and friendly service - so the queue moves quicker than any other on the lane. I have lunch here every time I'm in the office (Tuesdays and Thursday) and can't recommend them highly enough!
David H — Google review
Two free samples of the chicken was enough to redirect my lunch here, and boy was it a good choice! Fantastic portion size, wrap was ready in essentially just the time it took for me to choose my salads and toppings, and it was so tasty. Perfect lunch place, will definitely be revising
Finn M — Google review
Saw this suggested on a social media platform so came here with some expectation. The location is next to Petticoat Lane, a lovely hubbub of pop-up stalls, they run an amazing place so must be popular I went for the Katsu wrap, but I was a bit disappointed the Katy’s tasted old like it was cooked yesterday, the sauce I had an expectation of this being curry sauce like you get from Waggamamma’s instead it was the sweet sauce which I’ve had from Yo Sushi, it’s strange because in Japan you have curry sauce I dislike this sweet sauce alternative. Okay so for £4.50p you get a lot for your money but if they could get the quality of the katsu up, I’d be back again.

Absolutely delish! My taste buds are dancing. Precise and well organised, moderately priced that won’t send you crying to the bank. Thank you!
Mike A — Google review
The service is a little sharp - but if you want a quick wrap and you're in a rush - it's brilliant
Richard G — Google review
The Katsu Wrap is one of my favourites in Petticoat Lane Market. £4.50 not bad. It’s a Katsu (fried chicken) wrap with carrots, lettuce, red onions, jalapeños, peppers, carrots, humus, Chilli and mayo. The chilli is very spicy!! I warned you. The only disappointing thing is how they wrap it. They leave both sides exposed which means the food always falls out the bottom when eating it
