Top experiences in November
Hike to the top of Diamond Head
November is a great time to tackle the iconic Diamond Head hike, which offers stunning panoramic views of Honolulu and the surrounding coastline. The cooler temperatures and lower humidity make the hike more comfortable, and the clear November skies provide excellent visibility from the summit. The trail is relatively short and well-maintained, making it accessible to hikers of all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a memorable outdoor adventure, the Diamond Head hike is a must-do activity in Honolulu, especially in November.
Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center
November is a great time to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, a living museum that celebrates the diverse cultures of the Pacific Islands. The center offers a range of interactive activities, traditional performances, and educational exhibits that provide insight into the history, customs, and traditions of Polynesian peoples. With fewer crowds and pleasant weather, November is an ideal time to explore the center at a leisurely pace, immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific, and enjoy a traditional luau feast.
Go whale watching
November marks the beginning of whale watching season in Honolulu, as humpback whales start to migrate to the warm waters of Hawaii to breed and give birth. There are several tour operators that offer whale watching excursions, giving you the chance to see these majestic creatures up close in their natural habitat. It's an unforgettable experience to witness the whales breaching, tail slapping, and singing, and November is the perfect time to catch the early arrivals before the peak of the season.
Explore the Waimea Valley
November is a great time to visit the Waimea Valley, a lush and scenic botanical garden located on the North Shore of Oahu. The valley is home to a variety of native Hawaiian plants and flowers, as well as a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. The cooler temperatures and lower visitor numbers in November make it an ideal time to take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, learn about the cultural significance of the valley, and take a refreshing dip in the waterfall.

We were there when there was two construction so it was not possible to get advanced tickets. We were able to get there early in the morning and get on the waiting list. Then I'm already outside is very moving. The memorial itself is actually US Navy property and the personnel are very military and expect respect and reverence. The historical visitor center information was interesting. We didn't pay for the guided out of your tour but didn't feel it we were missing anything. There are two other museums that are attached for an additional charge but the national park itself is free. We found the park rangers here to be exceptional and very well versed in their subject matter.
Hard not to tear up out here. So many families changed instantly. Eternal respect for all those who serve with honor. Heaven forbid those have to pay the same sacrifice! Word to the wise- don't see anywhere listed that the last boat out to the USS Arizona Memorial is at 330 pm (1530 hrs), though the Park is open until 5 pm. (1700 hrs) The Bowfin is quite an experience to walk through..These guys we're tasked with one of the ultimate risks of a wartime environment. Getting thru the bulkhead doors was something at 65 w two total hips....they ran through them when needed elsewhere in the Sub. Truly astounding. The museum for the submarine service is remarkable. Lots to learn there. Too much to see in one or two visits....we need to return. Reckon this place is a huge linchpin in United States history. Gettysburg, Lexington, and Pearl Harbor; all US citizens should be able to recite their importance in US history. Can I? Not completely, and it's shameful. Sure I learned some in 4th grade, and on. But these events are what our freedoms are founded on; what gave us and the world notice of our ability and intent following those events. We should all know them better.
If you’re planning a trip to Oahu, visiting the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is an absolute must. It’s one of those places that really makes history come alive, and best of all, entry is completely free. The memorial is beautifully maintained, and the exhibits do an incredible job of telling the story of Pearl Harbor and the events of World War II. It’s a powerful, moving experience that gives you a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by so many. A few tips to make your visit smoother: if you’re driving, pay for parking because spots fill up fast, especially in the mornings. Speaking of mornings, I highly recommend arriving early—the lines for the USS Arizona Memorial ferry can get long. The ferry itself is free, and it’s a serene, respectful way to pay your respects at the Arizona. One important note: no bags are allowed on the ferry, so plan to leave them at home or securely in your car. Take your time walking through the exhibits and reading the plaques—there’s a lot of history packed into the memorial, and it’s really worth absorbing. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious about one of the most significant moments in American history, this visit is both educational and moving. Overall, the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is an unforgettable experience. It’s well-organized, meaningful, and a must-see if you’re on Oahu. Don’t miss it!
This is a large memorial that has various sections spread across the area, and involves a lot of walking. There are several attractions on site, all ticketed separately, or can be combined with one single passport pass. The only free attraction is the Arizona Memorial, for which you actually get on a free 5 minute boat ride, and get to spend 15 minutes at the site. The rest include various plaques, sculptures, memorial boards etc. All ticketing and experience details are listed and priced on the official website. Would highly recommend wearing easy to walk shoes, and bring a hat as most attractions are open air and it’s hot when sunny. There are restrooms located across various points. There is a gift shop and book store at the exit of the memorial. The virtual reality tours are really nice and very decently priced.
This is a well taken care of museum. There were several things to do. You HAVE to take the Arizona tour. The grave site is undescribable. It's a must feel/see. The history of the site is described very well in the self guided tour with a little move and walk through museums. The submarine museum is extra. It was work the money.
A once in a lifetime experience. All that you read about visiting it is confusing. Go and just enjoy the Memorial and gain your own memories. The movie is a MUST see. The trip to the Arizona is a nice boat ride. You only need about 15 minutes on the Arizona Memorial its self. Enjoy the park wander and explore what is interesting to you. Take in what you can and don't feel like you have to do it all. If you have never been on a battleship or submarine experience it here otherwise there is plenty to explore. Nice gift shop lots of unique its specific to Pearl Harbor. I did a self guided tour was there for 3 hour and was happy with my visit. They sell snacks and drinks. Have adequate restrooms. DO NOTE WHAT TYPE OF BAG YOU TRY TO BRING IN. I had a clear see through bag with water and snacks and had no problem.
It's just almost too hard to talk about it. In every way it was worth visiting and honoring so many veterans that have lost their life to sea. We were very blessed to be there on veterans day. May every one of their souls rest in the peace.
Rich in history, and gives you a strong sense of what the bombing of Pearl Harbor was like. Enjoyed the boat ride to see the Arizona. The movie at the theater was informative. Highly recommend getting the audio since it goes into more details. The staff were helpful and informative. Remember to bring a clear back pack otherwise, you will have to put your purse and backpack into a storage area. Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. Just snacks to purchase at the store.

Really beautiful place for a rather quick hike. The summit is GORGEOUS and you can see so much of the island from up there. I did see two people being air-lifted out and many many more struggling (people I passed on the way up still had not made it near the top when I was heading back down). So please be mindful and aware and ask yourself are you fit enough to do this hike. Watch a YouTube video before you come. This happens far too often and it's really sheer negligence on the tourists part. I saw people with dress shoes and nice outfits. This is not the time nor place to look cute. Come prepared. I wore hiking boots but you'd be fine with sneakers. Bring sunscreen and water. They do have a food truck onsite with snacks. This is also a nice moped ride from Waikiki. Keep in mind you MUST make reservations and pay online for entry. You may not pay once you enter the park. You will have a reserved time slot that you can enter and they will tell you when you must be out of the park.
Great run of you start at Waikiki Beach, about 8 miles round trip. Running the last part of Diamond Peak is challenging, going up the steps. You’ll have to walk portions of the trail to the peak as there are lots of people in line hiking it, but you’ll get a chance to pass and keep running. Amazing views around the island from the top!
It was not an easy hike, but the views at the end are amazing! Make a reservation online FOR SURE and pay for your entrance and parking ahead. Last time, we didn't do this and we're turned away. The guy at the gate said we could only stay for the 2 allotted hours, but the only way I would get out on time was by helicopter/flight for life. Nobody was checking anyway. Bring plenty of water and a hat. Make sure you have really good shoes, because the trail is steep and uneven in many spots. Sooo many stairs! When you get through the tunnel, go to the left. Less stairs, better views. Everything hurts, but worth it!
i’m not a hiker but i do travel around the world a lot and walk a lot and had to hike a few times but man going up was strenuous. maybe had to be because i was dehydrated and didn’t eat anything for breakfast. i had to take quite a few breaks because i was feeling nauseous. i’m glad i did it because it forced me to keep going and that’s what life is about. to keep going and pushing thru the hard things. the view at the top was amazing and worth it. the walk back down is 100x easier. bring water and try not to go mid day or the sun will be beating on u the whole time. i took a bus here from waikiki and it drops you off at the bottom. you have to walk up and thru the tunnel to reach the ticket booth. buy your tickets online early because slots do tend to sell out. it was 6.15 after fees online.
A spectacular place to hike at sunrise (make reservations early), the hike is short but steep, be prepared in your fitness level with water and electrolytes. And be prepared for crowds, but folks are good about sharing the trail. I caught a taxi up to the entrance, but walked back to the beach after, about 3 miles downhill from the summit.
Wow! It's a hike to get to the top, but achievable. Just be ready for narrow pathways and a somewhat claustrophobic tunnel, but relax its just a short distance and adds character to the hike. Once up you can see all around and even go into the military pill box located ocean-side top. Just take your time and go at your pace and you'll be up before you know it. 🤙
What an amazing hike that you can either spend your time reaching the summit or just jam up to the top in less than 23 minutes and reached the Diamond sign within 40 minutes. 🥵 Highly recommend and always amazing views!
Diamond Head is an absolute must-do hike when visiting Hawaii! The trail itself is relatively short in distance, but don’t be fooled—it does get steep and challenging in sections, especially near the end where stairs and narrow pathways lead you up to the summit. The effort, however, is more than worth it. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Waikiki, Honolulu, and the endless blue Pacific Ocean. On a clear day, you can see for miles in every direction, making it the perfect spot for photos and simply soaking in the beauty of the island. I recommend going early in the morning, not only to avoid the midday heat but also to beat the crowds, since this is one of Oahu’s most popular attractions. Bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and take your time—the trail is well-maintained but can be uneven in spots. The hike is doable for most fitness levels, and the sense of accomplishment at the summit is incredible. Diamond Head perfectly combines a bit of exercise, history, and world-class scenery, making it a highlight of any trip to Hawaii.

High-rise hotels line the shore in Waikiki, a vibrant neighborhood known for its popular surf beach. Designer fashion stores line Kalakaua Avenue and nearby streets, and the area buzzes after dark with waterside cocktail bars, fine dining and Kuhio Beach hula shows. Beautiful beach with plenty of reef. Got snorkeling gear and was able to see so many varieties of fish even on a very windy day. Felt like we had a better snorkeling experience on left side of the beach. There’s a store where you can rent all the snorkeling equipment you need. Reservations highly recommended.
Beautiful nature preservation on Oahu. Amazing location for snorkeling! Extremely busy so you have book your registration spots online 2 days in advance or visit in person before 7am the day of just to have a chance at getting in! The earlier you get in, the longer you can stay as they close at 3pm. A must visit if you can get in!
This was my first time snorkeling! Perfect place for it! You can rent or bring your own. There is so much to see undewater! The fish are unbelievable and not at all scared of you, but you have to be careful of where you step. Also, if you're coming to Hawaii for a short time & want yo bisit Maunalua Bay, make sure you visit the website at least 48 hours prior to book a reservation because it goes fast!! However it's absolutely worth seeing and the beach is gorgeous!!
Pay USD25 for tickets to get in. We went with a 'tour' for around USD50 per pax, which included hotel pickup and snorkeling equipment included, and I also added USD10 for a life vest. We arrived the earliest at 6.45 am when the park opens, but the waters were sadly too cold and we decided to enjoy by relaxing on the beach instead. The tour ends at 11:00 More visitors came at around 10:30 when the sun was stronger and a little bit more pleasant. Recommend to come on your own (totally doable) and especially if your hotel already provides snorkelling gear and beach hotels etc for free (as ours did), so you can pick the best time and leave as you wish.
Good and safe place for snorkeling. Reservations are in place, book early and on time. There is parking fee as well. Saw beautiful fishes but not much as in Shark’s cove. There is a shop to rent out snorkel gears, price ranges from 10-20$. The depth increases as you go away from the beach so it is not random.
The view was breathtaking. Disappointed by the amount of fish we see while snorkeling, the best place to snorkel is in Sharks Cove. You have to book to get in at 7am 2 days ahead, parking is a bit of a nightmare. The clear water makes up for it. We went in the afternoon just hours before the beach closes and it was very crowded. We managed to take a few pictures of the water without people in it and it’s just heaven on earth.
Bought tickets to snorkel here and had a blast. They brief you on what you can and can't do before you head down so just follow the rules. You can rent gear and equipment if you want. I would highly suggest getting snorkeling gear there is so much to see in the coral reef.
We booked an early spot which I recommend as you can get parking and it’s not too hot - there is limited shade at the beach This was a great snorkeling experience - we were in the water over an hour and were able to rinse off with the showers before leaving Could have better snack options - perhaps close to the beach

The Battleship Missouri Memorial is an incredible place to step into history. Walking the decks of the “Mighty Mo” gives you a real sense of what life was like aboard a World War II battleship, with the highlight being the exact spot where the Japanese surrender was signed in 1945. The ship is well preserved, and the exhibits are engaging, with knowledgeable guides who bring the stories to life. There are a few practical things to know before visiting: bags are not allowed, so bring only essentials. A dedicated shuttle bus takes visitors from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center to the ship, and no photos or videos are allowed on the way because you pass through an active military base and residential area for service members. Exploring the battleship itself requires a lot of walking and climbing numerous steep stairways — it’s a fascinating tour, but best suited for visitors with some stamina. Overall, it’s both educational and moving, and an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Pearl Harbor.
I recommend coming here. Its historical value is impressive and has many things on the ship to check out. After going through, it makes me happy I never joined the navy with how packed the bunk stations are for the sailors. The view from the Captains deck is beautiful. It takes bout about an hour or two go through depending on your speed. It may take longer if you read everything. They have food and a gift shop for you to enjoy and check out when you're done. They do have water and bathrooms available if you need them. I recommend following the guided tour as it is free. The tour guide I had was part of the Movie Battleship. Very cool experience. The earlier you go the better. The ship does have AC inside which is very nice.
Loved it! I’ve been fascinated with battleships since I was a boy. The museum and lower deck experience was great. If you are interested in naval history it’s a must see. My wife isn’t but she still enjoyed her time there
Nice place to visit. Plan at least two hours to be able to walk the entire ship. Also, do the tour where the guide explains the details of the ship. Walk around and visit each area of the ship including the surrender plaque area and donut kitchen. Phone service was great one deck but no cell service inside the ship.
I would highly recommend coming here. If you are already visiting Pearl Harbor, you should take the time to come over to see this. They were offering free tours every so often when I arrived. The ship is so vast and expansive, it is nice to have a tour guide give you history and facts that you wouldn’t otherwise get if you walked by yourself. To see the whole thing on your own, I would say take a few hours at least if you wanna see it all. Though you do have to take a bus from the Pearl Harbor museum, to the other side of the harbor to get to the ship.
Incredible access to floating history ! We were on ford island/Arizona tour that was the best I’ve seen ! We had excellent park department guides on the ship for a a bit and were turned loose to explore the beast! We had fairly free access to the mighty mo, could stayed longer but time constraints were a factor. Do much history there…… hard to take it all in! Important sidenote…. Try to make reservations for the 3:15 bus online for ford island!!!!! 40 tickets available twice a week from the stat park department. There website sucks but for 1$ you get an air conditioned bus ride from the park to the other side of ford island to see another pearl harbor site…..the best of the trip !
A tour of the "Mighty Mo" is a fantastic experience. This is, by far, the largest battleship I've ever been on. Tourists can see most of the ship, several decks are open to the public. There are many interesting displays and exhibits such as the signing of Japan's surrender and the Kamakazi Corp. This tour was worth every cent of the cost of admission. I'm a fan of military history and could have spent DAYS exploring this ship!
Visiting the Battleship Missouri Memorial was an incredible experience. The ship itself is absolutely massive—standing on its deck really gives you a sense of just how powerful and important this vessel was. Touring the ship and hearing the stories tied to it was both humbling and inspiring. From the spot where World War II officially ended to the preserved quarters and weaponry, everything on board honors the history and the sacrifices of the sailors who served. It’s a moving reminder of what those who wear the uniform go through, and a must-see for anyone visiting Pearl Harbor or interested in military history.

Iolani Palace is a beautiful and special place to visit in Honolulu. It’s full of history and has a peaceful atmosphere. I didn’t know much about Hawaiian royalty before, but the tour taught me a lot. It’s the only royal palace in the United States, which makes it quite unique. The building is stunning, both outside and inside. The rooms are well kept, and you can see where the kings and queens of Hawaii once lived. Everything is very elegant. From the wooden staircase to the royal dining room. You can really feel the history when you walk through the palace. I took the audio tour, which was very helpful and easy to follow. It made the experience more meaningful and helped me understand Hawaiian culture better. The staff were also friendly and helpful. They gave clear directions and made sure everything ran smoothly.
Nice to learn about the history of Hawaii and loyal family. This palace was not an actual palace that king lived in it was just one of the places he stayed when he had a guess. Sadly, the basement was closed for maintenance, so I only went two floors of the palace. No taking video inside only noncommercial camera without flash. They have self-audio tour so you can choose which room you want to go, and most people just follow the room number. Overall is not bad and kids will like it but I just feel it is kind of small compared to the ticket price.
Great cultural experience of the history of Hawaii from King Kamehameha on. The palace is extremely impressive with the portraits and technology that was ahead of its time. This is a definite must see to truly understand and embrace the true Hawaii!
This is a must-visit location for anyone interested in learning more about the past. Every corner is rich with historical significance, and the exhibits are thoughtfully curated to offer both educational value and engaging stories. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious, there’s so much to take in and appreciate. The staff is knowledgeable, and the atmosphere really brings the stories to life. Highly recommended for families, students, or anyone looking to connect with history in a meaningful way.
An icon of Hawaiian history and heritage. The guided audio tour was very well organized without being overwhelming. The information presented in the audio narration was concise without missing important details - there were many excerpts included from letters and diaries of the Hawaiian royals and their associates which added great atmosphere to the overall experience. The palace itself is beautiful and very well maintained. There are many spots on the palace lawns to sit and relax and take in the surroundings. There's also a massive Banyan tree behind the palace, not sure how old, but nonetheless magnificent to behold. Highly recommend visiting the Iolani Palace if you can.
If you're a history nerd and hate the whitewashing of Hawaiian history, definitely visit the Iolani Palace. We did the audio tour which I made me wish we did the docent tour just so I could ask questions. The palace is stunning, and they did an amazing job restoring it and continuing to maintain it. They do provide wheelchairs which my partner and I needed due to different foot injuries, but it's very difficult to navigate as the door frames are very small and some rooms you'll need to go a different route to enter.
I enjoyed this visit. It was pretty well kept and the audio guides were very helpful. We could also bring our baby in a stroller with no issues - there is an elevator inside. The workers were also very friendly and help us navigate the building. Mahalo!
Well worth a visit. Beautifully restored back to the times of the last kings and Queens. Good audio tour, that takes you through the various rooms at a reasonable pace (you can choose to spend more or less time in each room as you wish, you have a tour start time, but there is no end time).

Historical artifacts from WWII & an exhibit on naval ships presented in this wartime submarine.
Slide 1 of 8
The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum offers a fascinating and immersive glimpse into the history of submarine warfare. The exhibits are well-presented and provide a wealth of information about the life and missions aboard submarines. For those planning a visit, it's worth noting that touring the submarines involves navigating through tight and confined spaces, which might be challenging for anyone prone to claustrophobia. That said, it's a unique and educational experience that history enthusiasts and curious minds will greatly appreciate
Step Inside History on the Mighty USS Bowfin The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum is a must-visit for anyone fascinated by naval history. Its centerpiece, the USS Bowfin, a World War II “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” is open for exploration, letting visitors step inside and see the submarine up close. You can tour the control room, torpedo room, crew quarters, and engine room — experiencing firsthand how sailors lived and worked in such tight quarters during wartime. The museum provides context about submarine warfare in the Pacific, including the strategic role of the USS Bowfin during World War II. Walking through the submarine is both educational and immersive, giving you a real sense of the challenges and courage of the crews. Combined with exhibits at the museum, it’s a memorable and hands-on way to understand this important chapter of naval history
Yes, it is a small submarine, but I still like it plus I already spend whole day all another museum so short walk will save me lots of energy. Most rooms are smaller than a battleship of course. I buy a passport ticket so for me is so much worth! I get to see every place without waiting on a line or thinking about buying a ticket place by place.
Visiting the USS Bowfin Museum was an awesome and eye-opening experience. It was fascinating to walk through the exhibits and see the Pacific Fleet’s role in various conflicts—how much sacrifice and strategy went into each era of naval warfare. The highlight, without a doubt, was getting to tour the actual submarine. Being inside the Bowfin gave me a whole new level of respect for our sailors. The tight spaces, complex equipment, and confined living quarters really make you appreciate what they had to endure during missions. This museum does a great job honoring the legacy of our submarine force while helping visitors understand the cost of freedom. Highly recommended if you’re in the area or interested in military history!
The Baleo-class submarine USS Bowfin is a National Historic Landmark located in Pearl Harbour, Oahu, Hawaii. I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of this submarine and I'm astounded at how the crew endured the claustrophobic and, frankly, terrifying conditions of the "silent service". Well worth the price of admission!
Unique piece of history. Even after decommissioning, it still looks like it is ready to go out to sea. A lot of history both good and bad can be felt once inside the sub.
I had the benefit of coming in a free-admission kama’aina day. The museum was well done, but it is hard to beat walking through the submarine. What an amazing experience
A once in a lifetime experience to board and walkthrough a submarine, the USS Bowfin. It was very cramped and hot, but that was the living and working conditions for the Bowfin sailors. A very interesting part of the Pearl Harbour Memorial.

A celebrated hiking area, this 150-foot waterfall is set amid tropical vegetation & an arboretum.
Slide 1 of 8
The falls were a bit dry today since there hasn't been much rain but still worth the treck. The whole trail of rain forest is beautiful and and full of native flora and fauna. My mom has arthritis in her knees so it was kind of tough for her to go up through the trails since there are steep steps, slippery muddy trail and uneven rocks but totally worth it!
Manoa Falls is a breathtaking destination and a must-see for anyone visiting Oahu. The trail offers a relatively easy hike that meanders through a lush, tropical rainforest, reminiscent of a scene from a movie. As you walk, you'll be surrounded by stunning scenery, including towering bamboo groves that sway gently in the breeze, enormous ferns that create a lush canopy, and vibrant green foliage that seems to envelop you from every angle. The trail is well-maintained and accessible for most hikers, making it suitable for families and individuals of varying fitness levels. However, do be prepared for muddy sections, especially after rainfall, so it's important to wear sturdy, comfortable shoes to navigate the terrain safely. As you approach the waterfall, the anticipation builds, and when you finally catch sight of it, it truly delivers. Manoa Falls cascades down nearly 150 feet into a tranquil pool below, creating a serene oasis that invites you to pause and soak in the beauty of nature. The gentle sound of the water, coupled with the fragrant air filled with the scents of wet earth and tropical plants, adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or simply looking for a picturesque escape close to Honolulu, Manoa Falls promises an unforgettable experience that will leave you in awe of Hawaii's natural beauty.
Everybody told us what an amazing place this was and to be honest with you. It was just average. If you wanna go for a muddy hike only to find out that the pool at the bottom of the waterfall is not allowed to swim in this is your place. Having said that it is a gorgeous hike if that’s what you’re looking for.
Great trail with easy access from the city (about 20min drive from Waikiki). It took us about 40min to get up. Most of the trail is gravel. The forest is very lush and dense, the sounds of the birds and the creek are soothing. Along the way you'll find a few info boards with info about endemic species, many of which are now endangered due to invasive species that were introduced over time. Parking is $7 and they have a card reader. The lot was pretty empty when we arrived (around 8:30 am on a Sunday), but almost completely full when we got down, so glad we went early! There is also a small cafe and cute with local artists by the parking lot.
Manoa Falls is absolutely stunning and a must see if you’re visiting Oahu. The hike is relatively easy and winds through a lush tropical rainforest that feels like something out of a movie. The scenery is breathtaking from towering bamboo groves to huge ferns and vibrant green foliage everywhere you look. The trail is well maintained and accessible for most people though it can get muddy so wear good shoes. The waterfall at the end is the real payoff cascading down nearly 150 feet into a serene pool. It’s peaceful refreshing and totally worth the walk. Whether you’re a nature lover or just looking for a great adventure close to Honolulu this place is unforgettable
The Hike was challenging for me and I almost quit. Two beautiful soul ladies gave me the motivation to keep going. The fall was beautiful and the water while it was cold it was refreshing ♥️
Really lovely hike. Because it’s an easy one it’s quite busy. You need sturdy shoes as there are rocks, mud and puddles and try to find good mosquitoe repellent. Mine didn’t work and got bitten all over. Have water too, it’s pretty toasty and humid on the trail. Parking was half price for us due to being military.
Beautiful hike! There is a paid parking lot at the entrance, and I recommend bringing mosquito repellent — you’ll need it! The trail goes uphill and can get quite muddy, so wear proper shoes. Some rocks along the way are slippery, so be cautious. At the end, you’ll reach a gorgeous waterfall. There is a sign warning not to approach too closely as it can be dangerous — but many people do get closer to enjoy the view. Overall, a great hike surrounded by lush Hawaiian vegetation, mostly shaded, making it perfect for a hot day. Would definitely recommend!

This is a well maintained, beautiful cemetery. There is a kiosk near the entrance to help find graves of loved ones. The monuments and statues are incredible. We felt honored to pay our respects to the fallen veterans and their families. We are so glad we came to visit. It's very emotional to see this cemetery.
Beautiful tribute for those who gave their lives to protect and serve. It was very serene on Suday morning with maybe 5 other people there to pay respect.
Colloquially known as "Punchbowl Cemetery", this cemetery is located in the crater of an extinct volcano. The grounds, buildings and chapel are absolutely exquisite. The views of Honolulu, Waikiki Beach and the ocean are spectacular. This is a solemn, peaceful place. Tour buses do not stop here but drive right through so it is best to take your own vehicle to get here.
I usually don't have much good to say about our federal government so when I do it's significant. This beautiful cemetery is operated with the respect and honor our veterans richly deserve. Thank you to those who do the hard work of maintaining this special place of reverence.
National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific Few national cemeteries can compete with the natural setting of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The "Punchbowl" was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. Although there are various translations of the Punchbowl's Hawaiian name, "Puowaina," the most common is "Hill of Sacrifice." This translation closely relates to the history of the crater. The first known use was as an altar where Hawaiians offered human sacrifices to pagan gods and the killed violators of the many taboos. By 1947, Congress and veteran organizations decided to find a permanent burial site in Hawaii for the remains of thousands of World War II servicemen on the island of Guam awaiting permanent burial. The first interment was made Jan. 4, 1949. Eventually, over 13,000 soldiers and sailors who died during World War II would be laid to rest in the Punchbowl. On either side of the grand stairs leading to the memorial are eight courts of the missing on which are inscribed the names of the 18,095 American World War II missing from the Pacific. At the top of the stairs is a chapel flanked by galleries containing mosaic maps and descriptions of the achievements of the American armed forces in the central and south Pacific regions and in Korea. Visitation Hours: The cemetery is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Firstly thanks to Google Maps we walked up from downtown Honolulu on the side of a really dirty and unpaved road - luckily I saw a different route from the top and went down the other side. Now although the memorial is well maintained, there were workers cutting the grass and blasting music out even though they were right next to signs stating not to play loud music. Also, having all the traffic including tour buses driving around the memorial seems highly disrespectful. It could have been built so differently, with a car park where the visitor centre is and people walking up the little hill to the memorial. We didn't go to the monument as a service was taking place and wanted to be respectful. The views from the viewpoint were nice, but the viewpoint itself was not signposted and so we were roaming around on the road around the gravesites (there are no pavements, just a road circling through- strange. Even stranger was a sign offering drive-thru, first time I've really been reminded that I'm in the USA).
They do a great job maintaining the cemetery 24/7. Beautiful and peaceful
My maternal grandparents are here, as are my father and, most recently, my favorite uncle, but even if I had no personal connection to the cemetery I would still find it a beautiful and peaceful place to spend time. The grounds are excellently maintained, and when they go all out, like they do on Memorial and Veterans Days, it's impossible not to be affected. I've always found the formal military funerals to be particularly moving, and the attention to detail paid by the service members who attend in their dress uniforms, the ones who perform the 21 gun salute and fold and present the flag to a surviving family member, is always impressive. Recently I've become wheelchair dependent and while it's not possible to navigate the grassy areas in my chair, everywhere else in the cemetery is easily accessed via extremely smooth asphalt and walkways.

This mall is incredible! There is every store you can imagine and some we never even heard of! There are four (4) floors and it is an open-air mall so you are walking around outside, which is different, but nice. All of the stores we went into were nice and clean. The employees everywhere were very helpful. We went for the Lego store, but we ended up spending hours here after seeing all there was to look at. This is definitely a great way to spend a day. We would visit here again.
Amazing open-air shopping mall in the heart of Honolulu! It’s huge, beautifully designed, and full of tropical plants and ocean breeze. You can find everything here — luxury boutiques, local Hawaiian brands, and great cafés like eBar inside Nordstrom. The atmosphere is cozy yet vibrant, with both tourists and locals relaxing around. There’s live music, plenty of restaurants, and it’s spotlessly clean. Perfect place to shop, eat, and unwind under the Hawaiian sun.
This mall is huge, over 350 stores! The biggest open air mall of the US!!! They have all the high end designers like LV, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Giorgio Armani and other popular brands Tory Burch, Lululemon, The North Face, Yeti, Hoka, Sephora, Kate Spade just to name a few. There are plenty of dining options sit down (BDubs, Morton’s Steakhouse, Korean BBQ, Vietnamese, Olive Garden are some), casual (Chick-fil-a, sushi, Jack n the box, Raising Canes…too many to name!) ands snacks n drinks (Auntie Annie’s, Baskin Robbin’s, Starbucks, coffee, bakery’s, shaved ice only to name a few!) This mall is like an outlet, there are 9 levels for parking! Also easily accessible by public transportation, trolleys and ride shares. You definitely need a full day and walking shoes if you wish to scroll this beauty!
Wonderful outdoor mall with super convenient shopping experience and great location only 10 minutes' drive from Waikiki. I can say that the mall has everything we need, plenty of parking and easy access to another floors and stores.
Free parking, variety of shops at different price points, and free daily hula show at 5pm! It's a nice outdoor mall with a weird layout though. They do have all the overpriced bougie stores in the main walkway, but it you go towards the sides you'll find stores with more affordable prices.
Opening hours are 10 am to 8 pm Free parking on 9 floors. Very nice open air mall with 350 stores. Many designers, Bloomingdale’s, macys, Neumann Marcus, target, Nordstrom, foodland, Barnes and noble… Very large and nice food court with lots of choices.
After attending the Honolulu Marathon Expo at the Hawaii Convention Centre around the corner, I found my way gravitating towards Ala Moana Centre. As it was dark already, I didn't realise it was an open area shopping centre, I just thought it was dark low level lighting to add to the ambience. This place is massive, so many stores to choose from. It was December when I visited so Christmas was in full swing, including on the Centre Stage with Carols. The Food Court was massive with plenty of choices. Easy to walk as well, a pleasant walk back to Kuhio Avenue from Ala Moana Centre.
This place is AMAZING! So many stores, and the food court is UNREAL!! Highlights: Shabayu is not to be missed! Texas di Brazil was expensive, but so worth it!! (The salad bar alone was with the price.) Cat Cafe: Super Cute!!

I haven't been to a zoo in eons. This zoo has great exhibits with big animals like tigers, elephants, giraffes, a warthog, gibbons monkeys, huge tortoise and hippos! Very impressed with the reptile and bird exhibits! Wow, very cool. Plenty of shady spots to sit and rest. To the right of the entrance/gift shop and across from flamingos there's a purified refillable water fountain and bathroom. Several clean bathrooms scattered throughout the zoo. Gorgeous trees and 🌺 flowers. The parking lot has kiosks for paying - $1.50/hr. Three hours was the perfect amount of time to walk the entire zoo without rushing.
If you have little ones or just love seeing animals, I definitely recommend spending some time at the Honolulu Zoo! It’s such a fun and relaxing spot right in Waikīkī, and it’s perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking for something enjoyable to do outdoors. We visited in October with our family of 10, including several young kids, and everyone had a great time. The weather was absolutely perfect — warm but not too hot — and there was plenty of shade throughout the zoo to keep things comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. This isn’t necessarily an all-day adventure, but that’s part of what makes it great. You can easily see everything in about half a day and still feel like you got the full experience. There’s a nice variety of animals to see — some of our favorites were the different monkeys, the giraffes, the hippo, the lion, and the tiger. The bird exhibits were also amazing, with so many colorful and unique species. The kids were especially fascinated by the monkeys and loved watching them swing around and play. We appreciated that the zoo was clean, easy to navigate, and not overly crowded when we went. There are spots to grab snacks or drinks, and it’s located near plenty of places to eat if you want to grab lunch afterward. The price of admission is very reasonable, especially considering how much fun and learning it offers for kids and adults alike. Overall, we had such a great experience at the Honolulu Zoo. It’s the perfect half-day outing for families visiting Oʻahu — educational, entertaining, and just the right pace for a relaxing day. Highly recommend adding it to your list of things to do while in Honolulu!
Nice staff, clean grounds, and a decent variety of animals. Elephants, giraffes, and African Penguins were some of our favorites. Some spaces were under renovation. We didn’t realize until we were there that they also have a nighttime at the zoo event on some Saturdays. Take sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle.
This is the cleanest zoo I’ve ever been to and had a lot of variety of animals. I got to take my husband here for his first ever zoo experience. I love the exhibits and how it felt like you were in a world away from the city with the trees and landscape. I can tell the staff really takes care of the animals. Definitely hit up their cafe as they have delicious options that will surely satisfy your hunger. We spent a long time there as we wanted to see everything and get our tickets worth. Make sure to wear comfy shoes as it will take you more than two hours to see everything. We went on a weekday close to opening and it wasn’t too busy.
For $21 per adult and free for our 18 month old daughter, there is value for what you pay. That said, many exhibits were closed. We were able to enter without any wait. Bird heavy zoo/exhibits. Elephants, Giraffes and lions were my favorite. The highlight was the gibbons being quite lively (see video, volume up)! The giant koi fish were impressive as well. You’re definitely getting your steps in visiting this zoo! Be sure to pay for parking at the pay station before you enter and leave the receipt on your dashboard. Fair amount of parking.
What a cute zoo! Very good variety of animals. Animals had tons of space. They looked comfortable and happy. We had a great time!
Amazing zoo! Great half off Veteran and Military discount. Get there early because it can be hot and lots to see! The monkeys, tigers, and little foxes were my favorite. Amazing date idea if you have some down time in Oahu or need some laid back to do in walking distance.
Great zoo, easy to walk and good enclosures for the animals, volunteers to help educate you on the animals behavior and wonderful exhibits! The monkeys were especially active during our visit, howling and singing and swinging! The giant galapagos tortoises are amazing as well as the African penguins....lots to see, definately worth a visit when in Oahu

Took our 2.5 year old who loves dinosaurs to see the dinosaur exhibit. The exhibit did not disappoint. The dinosaurs were lifelike and moved/made noises. While there we also went to the Hawaii Culture center to learn more about Hawaiian culture. You could spend days in the three floors of Hawaiian culture. We also went to the science building to learn about bees, lava, and wind. It was a great educational and fun visit.
The best museum on the islands! The buildings were beautiful and full of so much history. We loved all the artifacts, interactive displays, and knowledgeable staff. It’s a great place to walk around and revel in Hawaiian history. There’s also a fun science and dinosaur centers. Don’t forget to stop by the food center to get some truly amazing coffee and food too. Worth every penny!
I recently visited the Bishop Museum and was thoroughly impressed! The exhibits on Hawaiian history and culture were fascinating, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. The planetarium shows were also a upcharge, but offering a unique perspective on the stars and navigation. My only suggestion would be to allow more time to explore the separate exhibits, as they were spread out across different buildings. Overall, a fantastic experience that I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in learning about Hawaiian culture and history.
There are Kama’aina rates for the islanders, the waistline was not long. I recommend at least two hours prior to start browsing before closing time. The Planetarium, The Hawaiian Sky Tonight, is like a collage lecture, it is not a movie like I expected, if you’d like enjoy lecture experience it’s a good idea to go. Ticket purchase up the front with admission, and don’t forget the extra ticket to drop in the basket before entering. The show room is right on your right when you enter the museum, AC is nice. Dinosaur is available this year, it’s worth going, cute dinosaurs are really active.
Cannot recommend this museum highly enough! It was fascinating to learn about the history and heritage of the Hawaiian people. The building itself and the grounds are beautiful and there are numerous fascinating artifacts, from throughout Hawaiian history. It is worth getting tickets in advance, as there is a slight discount.
The Bishop Museum is a must-visit in Honolulu for anyone interested in Hawaiian culture, history, and natural sciences. The exhibits are impressive and well presented, from ancient Hawaiian artifacts and royal family treasures to fascinating displays about Polynesian navigation and volcanoes. The planetarium shows and interactive science exhibits make it especially engaging for families and kids. The museum is spacious, beautifully designed, and offers a deep insight into the heritage of Hawaii and the Pacific. A perfect balance of education and inspiration — highly recommended!
This museum is a must visit to get know the story of Hawaii. I visited the museum twice since I didn’t have enough time to see it all the first time I went. The building is beautiful and the display is extremely unique. They did a great job putting this together and keeping it in the shape it is today. I’m thankful I’m able to see it and show to our guests when they visit us on island. It is the first place I recommend them to visit. The museum also organizes dedicated events throughout the year, that are, in my opinion, extremely interesting. I try to miss out on them and take my family if we can. Also need to add that the planetarium was a surprise and would definitely recommend it.
Nice enough museum, but the exhibit “experiences” aren’t well maintained and there’s no one to ask for help. There’s a really cool feature in the Dinosaur exhibit where kids can color a dinosaur and have their coloring scanned so that it appears on a screen with other kids’ drawings. Super cool and definitely fun for kids… but there was no paper and not a single staff member to ask. Staff members at the front desk said it was the “exhibit’s responsibility.” Tried calling, but the touch tone (“press 5 for exhibits”) didn’t work. Pressed “0” for the operator and a security guard picked up and he said he’d “try calling someone.” So, again, it’s a nice museum but you’re left to “enjoy” it on your own and if you need any assistance, there’s no one to ask. For the price of the tickets, it would be nice if the staff expressed a little more interest in guest experience.

Best to go early in the morning to beat the heat! This is not a beginner trail — watch your step (literally) as you climb about 1,048 steep steps to the top. 🥵 Expect the hike to take 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, depending on your pace. The view at the summit is absolutely worth every step. Bring plenty of water and take your time — you’ll earn that view! 🌄⛰️💪💦
Good hike, roughly 1.5 miles to the summit and back but that incline is no joke. Stairs to the summit are in good condition but I wouldn’t attempt it if it’s raining, there is a section with signs posted not to use it even though most people still do. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and water or at least make sure you’re properly hydrated
This was an awesome hike for my husband and I to accomplish. I will say it's not an easy hike it's moderate. Make sure that you bring water and when you get to the top, take a break you're going to need it! I ended up getting to the top without breaks during the climb but everyone's fitness level varies. Enjoy this because the pictures and views from the top makes this climb worth every step!
Make sure you have comfortable shoes and lots of water. The trail is definitely a challenge, especially for those who don't hike often. I also recommend sunscreen, and a hat. Besides that it's amazing and getting to the top its like a cherry on top. Great for workout and confidence boost.
Nice hike straight uphill with barely any shade. There is a part that the ones with fear of heights may not like very much. Recommended to wear good shoes and best to go early before it is hot. We went in the afternoon right when there wasn’t any shade. That made the trail more challenging so just in case if anyone is looking to enhanced their hike.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THIS TRAIL BEFORE SUNRISE!!! This is a difficult hike, there’s a reason why it’s called Nature’s Stairmaster, but if you pace yourself, you can get there. I do want to point out that there is a hollowed out part of the trail and it is scary but someone said you can walk around it, so go with that alternative if you’re scared of falling. There is 0 shade so you have nowhere to hide from the sun and it gets scorching hot. I started at around 5 am, made it to the top with a few minutes to spare before sunrise (5:37 or so), then made my way down and finished at 7:30 am. I would do this hike again even though I was heavy breathing all the way to the top.
Me upon arrival, seeing the trailhead: oh hell no. This hike is short, but intense!! Some of the stairs near the top have no grounding so it’s sketchy if you don’t wear proper shoes—but there’s a trail on the side that bypasses it entirely. There’s an additional viewpoint past the first summit where you can see the crater!
A must when you visit Oahu! Definitely recommend doing for sunrise to avoid heat and to see beautiful views as the sun goes up!! Most people take 30-45 mins to go up but budget an hour up just in case! The hike itself isn’t hard, it’s just the quick elevation gain!! Take your time, but no matter what, push through and make it to the top! It’s so worth it. Bring water and go to the bathroom beforehand. I’ve seen people throw up on the way and take over an hour to go up, but I’ve also seen people sprinting it 5 times in row within 2 hours. Seen people do it in the nicest hokas and seen people do it barefoot. Just listen to your body and full send it;) there are pillboxes up top and you can even go down the ridges if you’d like just be careful. Parking is free and there are also free bathrooms a little below the parking.

Very clean, and neatly paved, winding trail up to the lighthouse view! Beautiful ocean and coastal views, we also saw whale spouts! Recommended for walking, jogging, or strollers as the walkway is smooth and wide. Water, sunscreen, and hats recommended. Parking available on gravel areas inside the entrance, and street parking out on the main road if you have a taller vehicle.
Great views easy hike.
Fun, short hike, with beautiful views but note it's uphill the entire 1.5ish miles up from the parking lot.
It a incredible place, during season you can see tons of whales and it is beautiful at all times of year(, well besides when it pouring). Definitely take sunblock, hats, and hydration because it is HOT🔥! It is an easy walk, very well paved, just be mindful of the heat, and you'll do great! Family and pet friendly too!
Moderate level hiking. The laced path makes the hike much easier. I would recommend going early in the morning so it won’t be so hot. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. There are no public restrooms, so do your business beforehand. Parking wasn’t too bad for us. You’ll most likely find a spot when you pull into the park. The views were amazing at different points of the hike and plenty of photo opportunities. Happy hiking!
What a walk! The Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail is fully paved, but don’t be fooled – it gets intense as you start climbing up! The hike offers stunning views and plenty of access points to explore along the way. There’s a side trail that takes you down to the ocean and rocks, while the main trail leads to the top with breathtaking views of Waimanalo and the city. Unfortunately, the path to the lighthouse is closed due to landslides, but we hope the park administration fixes it soon! Parking is large but extremely busy. We were lucky to find a spot, but many people park along the roadside. Before starting the main hike, there’s also a trail to the beach – it’s worth the visit, especially after your hike, for a refreshing dip in the ocean! A fantastic spot for adventure and incredible views. Highly recommended!
Beautiful hike with a great view! Lots of people hiking off the paved path to other parts. Super windy up there, hold on to your hats! Bring water, it’s hot and a long walk.
Worth the effort. We managed to see some whales. One whale breached. Awesome even at a distance. Spectacular scenery from the top

We were visiting on vacation when we came to the Aviation Museum. I was really impressed by the staff and displays inside. Everything had it's own diorama and helped tell a story. I loved all the pictures of Hawaiian life before Pearl Harbor. The renovated lighthouse is amazing and the static displays outside were great to get up and close. Someday, maybe the Swamp Ghost will be up and viewable, that will be a sight!
Located on Ford Island this museum is excellent. General public have to take a shuttle from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center to gain access to the museum. Active and retired military will be able to drive to the museum. Aircraft from WW2 to modern aircraft are on display. The hangar holding aircraft related to the attack of December 7th is very informative. Seeing the B-17 Swamp Ghost is a journey back in time. The B-17 remains in the condition in which it was recovered from a swamp some years ago. Military and senior discounts on admission are available. Tickets range from $11 for children to $30 for adults. You can also purchase a ticket that allows you access to the control tower that affords you the best views of Pearl Harbor. There is a large fully stocked gift shop. A small cafe, The Hangar Cafe is also onsite. Check out the Passport to Pearl Harbor if you’re interested in visiting the other sites (USS Missouri, USS Arizona ,Submarine Museum).
A Must-See For Aviation and History Enthusiasts Alike The Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor is a fascinating destination for anyone interested in military history and aviation. The museum showcases an incredible collection of historic aircraft, including World War II fighters and bombers, and provides context about their roles during pivotal battles in the Pacific. Walking among these planes gives you a tangible sense of the scale, technology, and bravery involved in wartime aviation. One of the highlights of the visit is Hangar 79, where you can see the bullet holes from the attack on December 7, 1941. The preserved structure and accompanying exhibits offer a sobering glimpse into history, showing just how much these sites endured. It’s a humbling experience to see the scars of the past while learning about the events that shaped the Pacific theater. The museum is well-organized, with informative displays and knowledgeable staff who make the experience both educational and engaging. From historic aircraft to the preserved hangars, every corner of the Aviation Museum tells a story of courage, innovation, and resilience. For anyone visiting Pearl Harbor, this museum is an essential stop that complements the USS Arizona Memorial and other historic sites.
Visiting the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum was an incredible experience from start to finish. The moment you step inside, you can feel the history come alive. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed, showcasing everything from World War II aircraft to modern military jets, and each display tells a powerful story of courage, innovation, and sacrifice. The museum does an outstanding job of blending education with emotion. Walking through Hangar 37 and Hangar 79, you get to see bullet holes from the attack on Pearl Harbor still visible on the glass—an awe-inspiring reminder of what took place right there on Ford Island. The aircraft are beautifully preserved, and the interactive exhibits make it enjoyable for all ages. The staff and volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, eager to share details and personal stories that made the visit even more meaningful. I especially enjoyed the flight simulator—it was a fun way to experience what it might have been like to pilot one of those legendary planes. Overall, the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, aviation, or simply wants to better understand the bravery that shaped our nation. It’s not just a museum—it’s a powerful journey through time that leaves you with a deep sense of respect and gratitude. Would highly recommend making this a key stop when visiting Oahu!
Visiting the Pearl Harbor Museum was an incredible and moving experience. It was surreal to walk through areas that still bear the bullet holes from the attack—tangible reminders of a day that changed history. The museum does a phenomenal job preserving and presenting artifacts recovered from the conflict, giving visitors a real sense of what those who lived through it endured. From the detailed exhibits to the preserved remnants of the battle, it’s a powerful place that honors the past and the people who served. A must-visit for anyone who wants to better understand this pivotal moment in history.
Great aviation museum. They have great displays, and definitely don't miss going out to historic Hangar 79. They have moved a lot of the aircraft outside which is great for viewing. There is also the Hangar Cafe inside along with the gift shop. Air Tower is a separate fee.
This place, while beautiful, is not worth a stand-alone entrance fee. They have some very nice planes on display but not enough for a $30 charge. My suggestion would be that it should be added on to the Missouri's entrance fee by maybe $10. The attached video is basically the entire aviation museum.
I definitely appreciated this visit. It was fun, emotional, and educational. You can just walk in and get tickets. You can't drive You must take the shuttle from the pearl harbor visitor center.
