The King Kamehameha Statue, erected in 1883, stands as a remarkable 18-ft bronze depiction of the first king of Hawaii. Positioned in front of the Neo-Classical Aliiolani Hale, now housing the Hawaii Supreme Court, it serves as a striking symbol of Hawaiian history and culture. Visitors can witness the annual lei draping ceremony on his birthday and capture photographs at this iconic downtown Honolulu landmark.
Lovely artistic work of art depicting Honolulu’s King Kamehameha. Gold and black standing proudly is the king across the street from the great palace and Hawaii’s United States Customs and Courthouse. Located in the heart of the business downtown district. It’s a must stop to see the statue and surrounding landscape of native Hawaiian trees and palms.
Mack S — Google review
iconic statue of King Kamehameha — an absolute must for Hawaii Five-0 fans! Really worth the stop and the photo. The statue was unveiled in 1883. Every June 11, during Kamehameha Day, it’s beautifully adorned with flower leis. Behind is Aliʻiōlani Hale, Hawaii Supreme Court, and across the street is ʻIolani Palace, the former royal residence. It was easy access. And a parking was available. It wasn’t very tourist we were alone.

It was so cool to see the Famous King Kamehameha statue in Honolulu! It was a little tricky to find when we tried going by memory of it's location, but once we used the map, we found it with no problem. The turn in is to a small thru parking lot. We just hopped out to quickly take some pictures, but there appeared to be lots of interesting activities to do in the area.
Kristen R — Google review
The statue depicts King Kamehameha I, renowned for uniting the Hawaiian Islands in 1810—the same Kamehameha featured in the Apple series Chief of War. The statue was modeled in Florence, Italy, and cast in bronze in France. On its way to Hawaiʻi, the ship carrying it sank near Cape Horn. Because it was insured, a replacement was ordered—the statue standing in Honolulu today. The original was later recovered from the wreck and eventually sent to Kapaʻau on the Big Island, near King Kamehameha’s birthplace.

This is history Hawaii's history and if you're torn to see the history this is a nice place to see. It's right in the downtown area so it's not hard to miss parking is not bad all the buses tour buses seem to stop there yes it is something you should see and say you've been there and done that

Church
Kawaiahaʻo Church, completed in 1842, is a coral-brick church adorned with royal portraits and open for tours and worship. Situated opposite a museum on the National Register of Historic Places, this area offers a blend of old and new with its 200-year-old cemetery juxtaposed against modern high-rises.
Kawaiahaʻo Church–the national house of prayer located in Downtown Honolulu near ʻIolani Palace, Hawaiʻi. Kawaiahaʻo Church was established under Kuhina Nui (Queen-Regent) Kaʻahumanu I in the year 1820. Known as the "Westminster Abbey of the Pacific," Kawaiahaʻo Church was the first Christian Church built on Oʻahu. Dedicated on July 21, 1842, “The Great Stone Church” is made of 14,000 coral slabs from ocean reefs that were hauled from the sea by native laborers and missionaries. The church and the grounds were named a National Historic Landmark in 1962. "Kauikeaouli clock," donated by King Kamehameha III in 1850, still tolls the hours to this day. To the right of the entrance you’ll find the peaceful tomb of King Lunalilo. This popular King ruled for just a little over one year and he wished to be buried “among his people” at Kawaiahaʻo Church rather than in the Royal Mausoleum. To the left of the church you’ll also find the Kawaiahaʻo Fountain. The High Chiefess Haʻo bathed in this sacred spring, giving the church its name: Ka Wai a Haʻo, or the water of Haʻo. Kawaiahaʻo Church still serves as a center of worship for Hawaiʻi’s people, with services conducted every Sunday in Hawaiian and English. Portraits of the royal family adorn the walls of the second floor.

THE FIRST CHURCH ESTABLISHED IN THESE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, WHICH IS STEEPED IN LOCAL HISTORY AND CULTURE. A minister who leads his congregation and preaches from the heart and with a special, unique compassion? My friends who attend Kawaiaha'o Church firmly believe so affirming these qualities in their note to me. They recenty wrote:: "We have been going to Kawaiaha’o. We really like Kahu  Ken Maukakāne, he sends us  off into the week to “ Go out and give them Heaven”. The worship is much more traditional, ...but all in all it is inspiring and most of all Ken Maukakāne speaks God’s word from the heart, and that is inspiring." Historically the Kawaiahao Church was the very first Christian church to be built in these Hawaiian islands. The church members naturally stand up for and champion many local Hawaiian issues. This magnificent church ediface is primarily built with local ocean coral blocks. It once was and still is an awe inspiring structure. The last remaining ruling queen, Queen Lilioukalani, a strong, devoted Christian and her family attended church here.

This is an interesting historical site, and there are a number of placards around the site which elaborate upon its significance.
Brennan O — Google review
Incredible historical church made of coral blocks. I finally had a chance to visit for an event. The inside in remarkably plain (which I didn't expect because after all it's a church). There is no air conditioning so beware if you're sensitive to heat or have a long event to attend. Parking is nearby along the street & can be a challenge to find. I suggest parking at the municipal lot across the street. Restrooms are in a trailer in the back of the courtyard, near the mission houses. It's worth a visit to see if you get the chance! The cemetery behind the church has been closed every time I go, but was open for the event. However, King Lunalilo's tomb was not. I wish there was more signage around to discuss the history.
Ayla S — Google review
This is a no miss for anyone visiting Oahu. Service in English and Hawaiian. I got the pleasure of hearing a boys choir from Texas. What a treat!
Casey K — Google review
Really pretty building and good service. I really liked some of the cool stuff around the church, the cemetery with the missionaries, the royalty paintings and the fountain were my favorite
Tim W — Google review
Magnificent church built of coral by Hawaiians in 1800s. Walking distance for royalty from Iolani Palace. Royal boxes still maintained in back of church. Locked even when internet says it’s open.

The First Chinese Church of Christ is a remarkable establishment with deep roots in Honolulu, celebrating an impressive 138 years of service to the community. Originally located in Chinatown, this church was relocated and beautifully reconstructed on King Street. It offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, primarily serving a Chinese congregation while also providing English services every Sunday. Visitors often appreciate the transparency of the church's financial practices, as they make their yearly accounting available to the public—a rarity among religious organizations.
HELP USHER IN THE LUNAR NEW YEAR OF THE WOOD SNAKE. Celebrations culminate on January 29, 2025. Our "Common Ground(s)" and rich, vibrant diversity.

Wonderful English 10:30 service with Pastor Lilley, his sermons are so easily related to the difficult challenges we face each day! We give glory to God that has anointed him with his love for Christ that has blessed us with our walk! The congregation is truly welcoming! Additional parking is at Kaiser hospital. The amazing organist plays a beautiful piece at the end to bless us!

I did not know this was a church by the look of it. I went to service and it was great . Lots of old chinese ppl. Plus they have yearly accounting book available for the public which is super awesome❗️ (I mean unless ppl lie in those financial statements)Ive never seen any church or volunteer organization show how they spend their money.

Iolani Palace, located in Honolulu, is a historic 19th-century royal residence that once housed Hawaii's last monarchs. It has been restored and transformed into a museum offering tours and exhibits for visitors to explore the rich history of the Hawaiian monarchy. The palace was home to Queen Liliuokalani and King Kalakaua from 1882 to 1893 until the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy.
Iolani Palace is a beautiful and special place to visit in Honolulu. It’s full of history and has a peaceful atmosphere. I didn’t know much about Hawaiian royalty before, but the tour taught me a lot. It’s the only royal palace in the United States, which makes it quite unique. The building is stunning, both outside and inside. The rooms are well kept, and you can see where the kings and queens of Hawaii once lived. Everything is very elegant. From the wooden staircase to the royal dining room. You can really feel the history when you walk through the palace. I took the audio tour, which was very helpful and easy to follow. It made the experience more meaningful and helped me understand Hawaiian culture better. The staff were also friendly and helpful. They gave clear directions and made sure everything ran smoothly.
Jakarin H — Google review
Nice to learn about the history of Hawaii and loyal family. This palace was not an actual palace that king lived in it was just one of the places he stayed when he had a guess. Sadly, the basement was closed for maintenance, so I only went two floors of the palace. No taking video inside only noncommercial camera without flash. They have self-audio tour so you can choose which room you want to go, and most people just follow the room number. Overall is not bad and kids will like it but I just feel it is kind of small compared to the ticket price.
Melissa N — Google review
This is a must-visit location for anyone interested in learning more about the past. Every corner is rich with historical significance, and the exhibits are thoughtfully curated to offer both educational value and engaging stories. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious, there’s so much to take in and appreciate. The staff is knowledgeable, and the atmosphere really brings the stories to life. Highly recommended for families, students, or anyone looking to connect with history in a meaningful way.
Kendrick — Google review
An icon of Hawaiian history and heritage. The guided audio tour was very well organized without being overwhelming. The information presented in the audio narration was concise without missing important details - there were many excerpts included from letters and diaries of the Hawaiian royals and their associates which added great atmosphere to the overall experience. The palace itself is beautiful and very well maintained. There are many spots on the palace lawns to sit and relax and take in the surroundings. There's also a massive Banyan tree behind the palace, not sure how old, but nonetheless magnificent to behold. Highly recommend visiting the Iolani Palace if you can.
Arunabha M — Google review
If you're a history nerd and hate the whitewashing of Hawaiian history, definitely visit the Iolani Palace. We did the audio tour which I made me wish we did the docent tour just so I could ask questions. The palace is stunning, and they did an amazing job restoring it and continuing to maintain it. They do provide wheelchairs which my partner and I needed due to different foot injuries, but it's very difficult to navigate as the door frames are very small and some rooms you'll need to go a different route to enter.
Comfy P — Google review
Way more going on here than I ever knew. Started this trip completely ignorant of the culture of this beautiful island chain. So glad I was given the opportunity to learn something new for it gave me great perspective for the place I was calling a vacation. As a visitor to these islanders, thank you for having me and taking the time to help me see perspective. Excellent job bringing your history to life and this building is just amazing, as is it's human story!
Ty C — Google review
Well worth a visit. Beautifully restored back to the times of the last kings and Queens. Good audio tour, that takes you through the various rooms at a reasonable pace (you can choose to spend more or less time in each room as you wish, you have a tour start time, but there is no end time).
Mick O — Google review
I enjoyed this visit. It was pretty well kept and the audio guides were very helpful. We could also bring our baby in a stroller with no issues - there is an elevator inside. The workers were also very friendly and help us navigate the building. Mahalo!

The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, located in Pearl Harbor, offers a fascinating look into naval history with its exhibits on WWII and naval ships. Visitors can explore the USS Bowfin, also known as the "Pearl Harbor Avenger," which played a significant role in WWII and sank 44 enemy vessels. The museum features three galleries dedicated to the U.S. Navy's Submarine Force, covering World War II, the Cold War, and present-day operations.
The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum offers a fascinating and immersive glimpse into the history of submarine warfare. The exhibits are well-presented and provide a wealth of information about the life and missions aboard submarines. For those planning a visit, it's worth noting that touring the submarines involves navigating through tight and confined spaces, which might be challenging for anyone prone to claustrophobia. That said, it's a unique and educational experience that history enthusiasts and curious minds will greatly appreciate
Tim C — Google review
Step Inside History on the Mighty USS Bowfin The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum is a must-visit for anyone fascinated by naval history. Its centerpiece, the USS Bowfin, a World War II “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” is open for exploration, letting visitors step inside and see the submarine up close. You can tour the control room, torpedo room, crew quarters, and engine room — experiencing firsthand how sailors lived and worked in such tight quarters during wartime. The museum provides context about submarine warfare in the Pacific, including the strategic role of the USS Bowfin during World War II. Walking through the submarine is both educational and immersive, giving you a real sense of the challenges and courage of the crews. Combined with exhibits at the museum, it’s a memorable and hands-on way to understand this important chapter of naval history
S. S — Google review
Yes, it is a small submarine, but I still like it plus I already spend whole day all another museum so short walk will save me lots of energy. Most rooms are smaller than a battleship of course. I buy a passport ticket so for me is so much worth! I get to see every place without waiting on a line or thinking about buying a ticket place by place.
Melissa N — Google review
Visiting the USS Bowfin Museum was an awesome and eye-opening experience. It was fascinating to walk through the exhibits and see the Pacific Fleet’s role in various conflicts—how much sacrifice and strategy went into each era of naval warfare. The highlight, without a doubt, was getting to tour the actual submarine. Being inside the Bowfin gave me a whole new level of respect for our sailors. The tight spaces, complex equipment, and confined living quarters really make you appreciate what they had to endure during missions. This museum does a great job honoring the legacy of our submarine force while helping visitors understand the cost of freedom. Highly recommended if you’re in the area or interested in military history!

The Baleo-class submarine USS Bowfin is a National Historic Landmark located in Pearl Harbour, Oahu, Hawaii. I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of this submarine and I'm astounded at how the crew endured the claustrophobic and, frankly, terrifying conditions of the "silent service". Well worth the price of admission!
Dan T — Google review
Unique piece of history. Even after decommissioning, it still looks like it is ready to go out to sea. A lot of history both good and bad can be felt once inside the sub.
Frederick C — Google review
I had the benefit of coming in a free-admission kama’aina day. The museum was well done, but it is hard to beat walking through the submarine. What an amazing experience

A once in a lifetime experience to board and walkthrough a submarine, the USS Bowfin. It was very cramped and hot, but that was the living and working conditions for the Bowfin sailors. A very interesting part of the Pearl Harbour Memorial.

Bishop Museum, also known as the Hawaii State Museum of Natural and Cultural History, is a must-visit destination in Oahu. Established in 1888, it honors the legacy of Princess Bernice with millions of artifacts and exhibits showcasing Hawaiian and other Pacific Island cultures. The museum's impressive building exudes old-world charm with its dark wood and wrought iron accents.
Took our 2.5 year old who loves dinosaurs to see the dinosaur exhibit. The exhibit did not disappoint. The dinosaurs were lifelike and moved/made noises. While there we also went to the Hawaii Culture center to learn more about Hawaiian culture. You could spend days in the three floors of Hawaiian culture. We also went to the science building to learn about bees, lava, and wind. It was a great educational and fun visit.

The best museum on the islands! The buildings were beautiful and full of so much history. We loved all the artifacts, interactive displays, and knowledgeable staff. It’s a great place to walk around and revel in Hawaiian history. There’s also a fun science and dinosaur centers. Don’t forget to stop by the food center to get some truly amazing coffee and food too. Worth every penny!

I recently visited the Bishop Museum and was thoroughly impressed! The exhibits on Hawaiian history and culture were fascinating, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. The planetarium shows were also a upcharge, but offering a unique perspective on the stars and navigation. My only suggestion would be to allow more time to explore the separate exhibits, as they were spread out across different buildings. Overall, a fantastic experience that I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in learning about Hawaiian culture and history.
Ben C — Google review
There are Kama’aina rates for the islanders, the waistline was not long. I recommend at least two hours prior to start browsing before closing time. The Planetarium, The Hawaiian Sky Tonight, is like a collage lecture, it is not a movie like I expected, if you’d like enjoy lecture experience it’s a good idea to go. Ticket purchase up the front with admission, and don’t forget the extra ticket to drop in the basket before entering. The show room is right on your right when you enter the museum, AC is nice. Dinosaur is available this year, it’s worth going, cute dinosaurs are really active.
Diana W — Google review
Cannot recommend this museum highly enough! It was fascinating to learn about the history and heritage of the Hawaiian people. The building itself and the grounds are beautiful and there are numerous fascinating artifacts, from throughout Hawaiian history. It is worth getting tickets in advance, as there is a slight discount.

The Bishop Museum is a must-visit in Honolulu for anyone interested in Hawaiian culture, history, and natural sciences. The exhibits are impressive and well presented, from ancient Hawaiian artifacts and royal family treasures to fascinating displays about Polynesian navigation and volcanoes. The planetarium shows and interactive science exhibits make it especially engaging for families and kids. The museum is spacious, beautifully designed, and offers a deep insight into the heritage of Hawaii and the Pacific. A perfect balance of education and inspiration — highly recommended!

This museum is a must visit to get know the story of Hawaii. I visited the museum twice since I didn’t have enough time to see it all the first time I went. The building is beautiful and the display is extremely unique. They did a great job putting this together and keeping it in the shape it is today. I’m thankful I’m able to see it and show to our guests when they visit us on island. It is the first place I recommend them to visit. The museum also organizes dedicated events throughout the year, that are, in my opinion, extremely interesting. I try to miss out on them and take my family if we can. Also need to add that the planetarium was a surprise and would definitely recommend it.

As a local resident of Oʻahu, I was really hoping to enjoy the Bishop Museum, but unfortunately, it left me disappointed. I understand that prices get marked up for tourists, but for what’s actually offered here, the cost just doesn’t feel justified. Admission is already on the higher side, and to top it off, parking is an additional $18 — not included in the ticket price. That alone felt like a bit of a cash grab. The museum itself is made up of three main buildings, but only one of them really contains true historical artifacts. The others are mostly displays or exhibits that feel more geared toward school field trips than genuine cultural or historical exploration. For the price, I expected a much more immersive or substantial experience. This could be a quick stop if you’re visiting and have never learned about Hawaiian history before, but as someone who lives here, I found it underwhelming and overpriced. Definitely not something I’d recommend to other locals.

The Saint Augustine by-the-Sea is a beautiful, vibrant Catholic church with unique mid-century modern architecture. The weekly mass is an excellent opportunity to experience the spiritual and musical might of the congregation, and Father Lane has a way of keeping everyone's attention that makes the service feel like a loving congregation. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it was great to learn about specific liturgical practices in detail.
Attended Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday Mass with my wife. The Church’s Architecture is amazing, it unique and just beautiful. But the thing that brought me near tears was the Choir singers at Easter Mass. Their performance was amazing, they were spectacular and their voices were just inspiring and heart warming. They made it such an inspirational experience. Bless you every choir member, you are inspiring. Peace and Love to St. Augustine Church parish.

A very solemn place to pray. They have daily masses (Monday-Saturday) at 7AM. The mass takes around 30 minutes since there’s no choir on weekdays. Entrance to the church on weekday mass is behind the church (small brown gate) by the parking area. The priest’s homily is spot on the Gospel. We attended the Thursday and Saturday masses, but we didn’t get the chance to join the Sunday service. They say Sunday masses has choir. They have 4 masses every Sunday from morning to afternoon. People are nice and the place is very clean. It’s just across Waikīkī beach, and people wearing casual clothes are ok to join. Just be modest, of course.

My vacation in Waikiki was great; the church was very closed to the place I stayed. I was drawn on the history of the church even though the structure right now is a modern style building. I prefer a traditional style of Catholic church, but I open to the combination of new age and contemporary architecture. I went to 2 Sunday service, first was a visitor priest from CA who was also on vacation, but his parent was born in Hawaii. It was funny story because he was on vacation too. The second was the pastor of the church, he just came back from the mission in Brazil, so it answers why the first Sunday, I visited it was a replacement priest. I love piano music when it comes to the church, but they are focusing on guitar which is I guess it close to ukulele that represent Hawaiian style of music. Church was packed during the service. Warm welcome from local and friendly vibe from other visitors. I'm glad to be able to go to church on my vacation.

Great church by the beach. Participated in a service, and it was beautifully listening to songs and hymns in the Hawaiian language. The parishioners dressed nicely in the traditional regalia.

Beautiful church with daily Mass most mornings at 7am. To get in during the week you need to go through the parking lot gate and down a long, narrow sidewalk to an open door.

A Catholic Church held in a beautiful building. Mass was lovely with a great singer to lead the parish in song.
Christopher B — Google review
This is an absolutely beautiful church. We went to 8 am Sunday Mass and it was simply beautiful. The music was contemporary. The guy that was singing has a beautiful voice, one of the best I've heard in a church. The stained glass windows tell the story of Jesus. The people were friendly. At this Mass, the pews were mostly full in a pretty big church. It was great to see. If you are looking to worship Jesus, this is the place to go on the beach.

The Hawaii State Capitol, built in the 1960s, is a striking example of conceptual postmodern architecture. Its design incorporates symbolic elements such as cone-shaped legislative chambers representing volcanoes and columns shaped like coconut palms to symbolize the archipelago's islands. The building features an atrium, courtyards, memorials, and statues. While it is closed to the public, visitors can explore the open-air rotunda and view the legislative chambers through windows.
Great backdrop for protests. Open spaces promoting gatherings. Palm trees and plenty of space for hundreds who gathered with their frustrations, signs, and chants. Parking is an absolute challenge, as is lack of access to restrooms.

Visiting this offers a valuable opportunity to understand how the state government operates. It provides insight into the legislative process, public administration, and how policies are developed and implemented. Such experiences deepen civic awareness and help individuals appreciate the roles and responsibilities of elected officials and government employees in serving the public.

Cool building, surrounded by Banyan trees and other beautiful flora and fauna. I liked the view from the interior courtyard.

I came here to complete some paperwork. I was stunned by the inside of the building and the offices, beautiful! The views are also outstanding. The security was extremely nice and the people working at the offices were very efficient. Mahalo!
Austin — Google review
Having visited over a half of US Capitols I can say this one is the most unusual one, and one of the most interesting. It's located just behind the Iolani palace, which I strongly recommend visiting. Unlike many neoclassic Capitols with the central dome all across the US, this one is a modern square building. The central inner space is open air, atrium like, while the offices and both houses are scattered around it on 5 floors. Upon entering is an airport style security checkpoint, after which you can proceed. I suggest first going up the top floor terrace from where you'll have great views over Honolulu. Then you can descend down via stairs and visit accessible areas depending if there's a session - we were let in the Governor's office
Dejan B — Google review
This is a different type and style of a Capital building. It’s open to the outside and above. You are able to walk on all floor levels and go into the Lieutenant Governor and Governor outer office areas. In the Lieutenant Governors, you’re able to go into the room where she holds her meetings or Press conferences. Everyone we encountered was polite and helpful. There is amazing artwork to see as you’re walking around.
Karen J — Google review
The only open air capital in America and the only one you can see the ocean from! The good: friendly people, neat artwork tucked in offices, you can access the observation platform on the top floor to get a view of the city and ocean. The bad: no guided tour, no gift shop, Senate and House are not open unless in active session. Artwork is in offices, with very little out in the open for public viewing, so shy people won't see much of it. The ugly: silly security setup so you have to go through check points more than any other capital we have been in (more than at the White House even!), parking fees went up again, it is now $2 per hour to park (max 4 hours).
Chris B — Google review
I hate to write negative reviews like this. However the grounds are covered in homeless scumbag encampments, open air drug use, and trash. The grounds look ugly uncared for and just ugly. The people I interacted with were great, lovely people. Fun people and great fun. I asked can I see the House of Representatives? The security giggles and says no. This is the only state capitol that has not allowed people to see the rooms where their elected officials work. Old building dirty kind of run down. The bottom floor is full of broken computers and office furniture. Great people ugly terrible no tour no access to senate or house rooms, homeless scum.

Aliʻiolani Hale, a stunning historic structure nestled in downtown Honolulu, serves as the home of the Hawaii State Supreme Court. Originally commissioned by the Hawaiian monarchy in 1874 and designed by Australian architect Thomas Rowe, this building was intended to be a royal palace but never fulfilled that role. Visitors can explore its beautiful courtyard featuring the iconic gold statue of Kamehameha the Great.
Aliʻiolani Hale Since 1874, Ali‘iōlani Hale has been the home of the Hawai‘i Supreme Court. The building was commissioned by King Kamehameha V and built between 1871 and 1874. The name means “house of Heavenly Kings.” The name Ali‘iōlani was one of the given names of Kamehameha V. He laid the cornerstone in 1872, but died before the building was completed. It was dedicated in 1874 by King David Kalākaua. Originally designed as a palace, King Kamehameha V instead decided to use it as a government office building for the growing kingdom. It held the executive offices, legislature and judiciary. After the overthrow of the sovereign in 1893, the legislature and administrative functions were relocated to Iolani Palace, leaving Ali‘iōlani Hale for the courts. The Hawai‘i Judiciary remains the primary occupant. The King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center is also located in the building and provides public exhibits and programs related to Hawaii's legal history. The address is 417 South King Street, Honolulu.

Interesting museum and mostly good docent tour though it would have been better without the docent's comment about the Hawaiian royal family knowing that they needed to appear to be civilized in order to have a better position at the bargaining table with European colonialists.

Honolulu Harbor is a historic seaport with ship terminals and the iconic Aloha Tower, which has been welcoming visitors since 1926. The tower, once the tallest structure in Hawaii, greets passengers with the word "aloha" on its clocks as they enter the harbor. This centuries-old port played a significant role in bringing new wealth to the Kingdom and improving the quality of life for Native Hawaiians.
It is a very beautiful place.
Kiril P — Google review
The first European vessel to enter Honolulu Harbor was a long-boat from the British merchant ship King George. The boat rowed into the harbor on December 12, 1786. In 1850, Kamehameha III declared Honolulu to be the official capital of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. With the proclamation came a series of investments to further develop the harbor to accommodate more vessels. Honolulu Harbor quickly became the chief port of call for the trans-Pacific sandalwood, fur and whaling industries. Foreign vessels that docked at Honolulu Harbor poured vast amounts of wealth into the kingdom's coffers and provided for the well-being of native Hawaiians.

Mauna ʻAla, also known as the Royal Mausoleum, is a serene site in Nuuanu Valley that serves as the final resting place for many of Hawaii's last monarchs. It was created by King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma to honor their son, Prince Albert Edward.
COME PAY YOUR DEEP RESPECTS TO THE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS KINGS AND QUEENS OF HAWAII IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR INSPIRATIONAL, LASTING CONTRIBUTIONS. High up in Nuuanu Valley is sacred land. Here the kings and queens along other members of the royal Hawaiian family and predominate associates are at their final resting place. Most of the royals were deeply committed Christian's, with a ferverent desire to loving serve their Hawaiian people. The Curator of these hallowed grounds asks that all who come respectfully honor the Mana (the spirit) of this sacred space. These benevolent forward-looking royals left remarable legacies, which their peoples enjoy today. They built churches, fostered learning and education by establishng prominent schools. They attended to the health care needs of those under their charge by erecting leading hospitals. They left parks and gardens for all to enjoy. For more details about the direct contributions of the respective monarchs, please visit my various posts. These include: the Queen's Medical Center POB 1 (Queen Emma), the Physicians Building POB 2 (Queen Emma), along with the Cathedral of Saint Andrew (all established by Queen Emma). Kapi'olani Regional Park (Queen Kapi'olani) and Queen Kapi'olani Garden are other entries. Kapi'olani Community College (Queen Kapi'olani) and K.C.C. Farmer's Market are still other contributions. There are no words to accurately describe and portray the true aloha spirit that lovely Kumu Doni embodies. Her delivery of the history of Hawai'i’s rich culture and the meaningfulness behind it is unmatched. She embodies all that is mana and all that is aloha and it is felt through her words, her oli and her song. Not really displayed for tourist, it really is a royal cemetery. I believe while you're in Hawai'i, it's good to come by and pay your respects to their Kings and Queens since they STILL take care of native Hawaiians. We were fortunate that the Curator, Doni Leināʻala Hanuna Pahukoa Chong, came out to greet us and shared the history of the Royals, Hawai'i, and the Royal Mausoleum grounds. She also shared recent events that was held there. We learned so much from her and made sure that our visit was respectful. I wish and hope that our visit is similar to others. I think this was one of my favorite part of my visit in Hawai'i. I love our experiences here and I hope that everyone truly learn Hawai'i's history and culture.

Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and I would highly recommend this church to anyone looking for a beautiful ceremony with plenty of extras.
A lovely open community that welcomes all who wish to enter. The views from the sanctuary are amazing. The seating is a tiered amphitheater looking out through windows directly on the ocean. Ocean baptisms, Outrigger canoe to Scattering of Ashes and Weddings are done regularly. There is a food bank and Pre-school on the property, both missions of the church.

I am so grateful for enrolling my son in Calvary by the Sea. Within the first week, he started saying please and thank you daily. He also learned to say he’s sorry whenever he spills something. I have noticed such a behavior change in him, in such a short time. He has never been a difficult child, he is naturally happy and social, but now he is so polite.. also he has learned to wash his dishes and clean up his toys nightly.. Calvary by the Sea has been a blessing to our family and I recommend this preschool to everyone who wants to see positive, exciting changes in their children.

The Arizona Memorial, part of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii, is a significant tourist destination, attracting thousands of visitors daily. It honors the 1,664 crewmen who lost their lives during the attack on Oahu in 1941. The memorial includes several sites such as the USS Arizona Memorial, which sits above the sunken battleship and serves as the resting place for over a thousand sailors and Marines.
Powerful, memorable, historical, meaningful. All those poor young lives. History is so brutal Leave your purse in the car if you can. It’s $7 to leave your bag at the front. If it’s clear it’s okay. Even small fanny packs not allowed. We just walked in and didn’t reserve for reservations. This part was free to sign up to wait for the ferry to USS ARIZONA. We waited for a little over an hour for our que to go to the memorial. While we waited, We paid to see the submarine inside. $48 for two adults one child. When our number was up the ride was somewhat calming . The memorial is in great condition . The ship.. well It’s crazy how you can still see the mast after 80+ years! Scary

The pearl harbor location was a great place to learn about the history and conflict during the past wars. You can see modern shifts at pearl harbor and the older ships in the museum section of the harbor. Highly recommend visiting this place as the facilities are very nice and you get to see a lot about the history.

I booked the ferry in the morning and because the memorial is in active military base, so all operation is done by National Park service and united state navy. Before we go to the memorial, they took us to the conference room and park ranger gave us the briefing that made me look at the memorial differently. It isn't an attraction, but it is a tomb that we should pay a respect to the soldier that passed away on that day. No talking out laud, phone must be put in silence, no taking picture on the dock but we can take a picture inside. They gave us 15-20 minutes until new round arrived then we took a ferry back to the base. I suggest if you want to visit all the museums, going to USS Arizona memorial in the morning it will make this trip flow and easier.

Visiting Pearl Harbor is an emotional and deeply moving experience that every American should have at least once. The site is beautifully preserved and serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and history that shaped our nation. The USS Arizona Memorial is both haunting and humbling, offering a quiet moment to reflect and pay respect to the lives lost on December 7, 1941. The exhibits and museums are incredibly well done — informative, detailed, and full of authentic artifacts that bring history to life. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and respectful, ensuring the experience is both educational and heartfelt. The audio tour is highly recommended, as it gives a deeper understanding of the events and personal stories tied to that day. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the weight of history — but also the strength of resilience and unity. Pearl Harbor isn’t just a tourist stop; it’s a place of remembrance and gratitude. If you’re visiting Oahu, make this a priority. It’s a profound reminder of our past and a tribute to those who gave everything for our future.

It is said that this is the most visited place in Hawaii. It is the final resting place for 1,177 sailors and Marines who died on that fateful day of December 7, 1941. This solemn, poignant and peaceful place can evoke emotions in even the most unshakable of us. The memorial is constructed in a most respectful way. The wreck is still leaking oil, quite visible from the memorial. These are called the "black tears". The tours of the monument are well organized, even with large crowds. I'll never forget this "bucket list" visit.

As we walked into the ticketing booth they had told us to proceed to go through and didn’t have to purchase tickets, my family was the only part of this group that went over on the shuttle to the memorial and had it to ourselves for the 10 to 15 minutes. A truly remarkable experience to have with the family!

A memorial to honor the navy soldiers and marines who lost their lives during the 1941 Pearl Harbor. The memorial has documented history of the destroyed battleship through plaques, signboards, and posters. Here you can see the remains of the ship above the water, as well as under the water. There is also a rectangular opening inside the memorial to view remains of the ship submerged in water. At the end there is a large wall where names of all the soldiers who were on board at that time. To arrive at this memorial you need to take the ferry from the main terminal site. The captains on the ferry are navy personnel, the one on the way back was very nice and gave a lot more information in a fun manner and due to availability of time also got us some very good and historically significant shots of the Memorial and the ship behind it. It’s a short 5 minute navy boat ride. Once at the memorial you have to keep right to let the existing people leave and board the same ferry going back.

New Hope Oahu is a mega-church that has forced itself to find creative ways to reach people in difficult economic times. The church uses 17 public school campuses for services, and the atmosphere is one of love and hope. Pastor Justin Smith was great with welcoming us and giving an overview of the service. The worship was very moving, and I was impressed by the diversity of the congregation. Danny Gokey was there signing autographs, so it was a very special Easter experience all around!
One of the most versatile and modern churches with authentic love for people. Shows in the hospitality, the pastor and current up-to-date music talent. Exciting enthusiasm is in every message and encouragement is felt throughout. Highly recommended (after visiting many) this is my choice for spiritual food and fellowship.

I came to this church by myself and felt so welcomed. From the shuttle that takes you to the church if you parked far, the greeter, and the lady who helped me find a seat. That all meant so much to me as I was nervous going and I think it says a lot of the church and the staff and reflects Jesus so well. Worship was amazing and the sermon refreshing and convicting in the best way. I will be back again.

Beyond blessed with the support and spiritual growth I have received at this church. A lot of my testimony is between me and God, but I will say this church is currently helping me develop to be a righteous man of God. I enjoy life group and my life group lead (Chad) is awesome. The youth is supportive, and everyone has their own walk with God. When people dislike church, they tend to dislike those who shun them. My piece of advice to you all reading this is to find a home church where you won’t be judged. Don’t put man on the pedestal, and rely on man to be your telephone to God. Be YOUR own telephone to God. I found a church aka this one where I get to break bread with brothers and truly fellowship while working on my relationship with God. Praise Jesus! I give thanks to God for speaking into these people who lead this church. To be able to spread the word, and do so without manipulating scripture. God bless! Jesus loves you all ❤️

I don’t really know if this a solid church or not, I couldn’t really tell, mainly because I spent the entire service watching my 2 year old. I was told they closed children center aged 2 and under. So though I’m sure the service was good, I just don’t know because I was way too occupied trying to make sure my son isn’t being a bother.

Super church-- the setting, the people, the service, and the message. It's a mega-church with a smaller-church feel. Contemporary style worship. Covid protocols are in place and strictly followed with a well-produced video reminder prior to the service. We visited the 2nd service as tourists and felt warmly welcomed. We also took part in the baptism on Sand Island that Sunday, invited by a friend of ours who is involved with New Hope, and everyone made us feel like we were lifelong members. It was a lovely ceremony even though we had to keep our masks on even while being dunked lol. Highly recommend this church family. LOVED the liturgical hula dancers as well. So unique (as east-coasters) and awesome! Solidly Biblically based non-denominational. Don't be put off by folks raising their palms to the sky if that's not your thing; it's okay! (I've always found that a bit unsettling and I've been around that sort of response hundreds of times over.) It's just an outward expression of being moved by the Spirit at New Hope Oahu. Very impressed with the pastor, too; humble and down-to-earth and not like some others who sometimes seem like untouchable mega-pastors up on the big stage.

What is there not to love about this place. You get to come and eat all the comfort food without the lines. It's a hidden gem to all the military and tourists. Put this on your list of things to do. Also, come see them on Wednesday and Sunday, where you can worship with your family. Have a latte at the same time. Love this ministry and what they do for the community. Not just another church. You can really feel the presence of God in this place. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🙏🙏 BTW, this is Walter!!!! I'll be back in September. Hopefully, I can do something to serve. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

The Word of Life Christian Center is a religious congregation that gathers to watch live services on Sunday mornings at two movie theaters in Hawaii. The members are hospitable and welcoming, and they seem to enjoy getting to know one another. The church has a strong focus on discipleship, and its members are working hard to be kind and loving people.
This place, the atmosphere is phenomenal. It has changed my life. I learn a lot of new things about Jesus, or life, every time! It’s a place of encouragement, it is uplifting, it is filling. A lot of great souls there too. I love it and my children love it too!

There is power in knowing and applying the word of God to my life, and I am so grateful for the people here to have ushered me to the feet of Jesus. I have been clean and sober for over 6 months now, I don't have horrible thoughts anymore, and thank you Jesus that I am never going back to that life!!!

• Do not give out your personal information. • Do not rush to join a life group. • Do not assume you’ll be free to worship or learn at your own pace. 1. They Prioritize Control Over Connection When a church or group constantly demands to know your whereabouts, pressures you to attend events, or makes you feel guilty for missing a meeting, that’s not spiritual care—it’s control. Healthy communities invite and encourage; they don’t manipulate. 2. They Confuse Leadership with Ownership Some leaders operate as if their role gives them power over your personal life. That’s not biblical. True spiritual leadership follows the model of Christ—serving with humility, not leading with dominance. Leadership is meant to guide, not govern your every decision. 3. They Function More Like a Cult Than a Church When your spiritual growth becomes conditional—“we’ll help you if you comply, share personal information, or submit to specific demands”—you are entering dangerous territory. Withholding access to resources (like a class link) until you surrender personal details is not discipleship—it’s manipulation and coercion.
Sasha T — Google review
Upon attending, I was approached very quickly by leaders who strongly encouraged me to join a life group. I was told this would help me grow in the Word--but I later realized it was more about gathering personal information, applying pressure, and exerting control. I was never clearly told what the life group structure was or what I was being groomed for. I later found out they were trying to build teams of 12, and I felt the process was manipulative and non-transparent. In one group I joined (under Calvana and Kennera), I informed them I would be off-island for a medical appointment and can only attend class part in person and part online..when the time came for me to leave I I asked multiple times--both via text and zoom chats--for an online link to continue my class. I was never given the link. Instead, I was asked to share my travel plans, doctor's appointment times, and return schedule--information first. My personal growth became conditional, manipulative and coercive. Every Sunday, we were encouraged to sit together as a group and were constantly photographed after every service, allegedly to be sent to a higher-up leader. We were also required to wake up at 6am in the morning for prayer meetings on zoom and when we did not our group leader would send texts demanding we Join. These practices felt uncomfortable and invasive. At times, it even felt spiritually unsafe, as if there were other motives behind these routines. I tried to switch groups when my original leader left the island and handed us to the next person like we were a task to be completed, but even trying to switch leaders led to confrontation. I was denied the option to move freely into another class (with Lynn and Chrystal) until they had no choice...I later found out that I didn't need to be in a group at all to access the educational content. In this new group, the same cycle repeated: I paid for the Destiny Class, and again was pressured into attending in-person watch parties at people's homes, which I found distracting and uncomfortable. When I ask to study on my own, I was told to attend the watch party again which told me that they prioritize pushing their system over my spiritual growth. They was unwilling to give me my money back,Instead, my contact info was passed to others group leaders without my permission, and I was pressured again. After expressing my concerns and setting boundaries, I felt targeted. I was asked personal questions unrelated to spiritual growth and was even told to run Christian content I shared in our group Text by leadership first--while they felt free to add me to group chats and circulate my information without consent. One Sunday, I was told I couldn't move to the front during worship until my group leader was found. The lady tried to force me to wait by holding my hand until I snatched away from her. I also noticed they would intentionally crowd the downstairs of the sanctuary, and would not allow people to sit up Top for appearances--likely to make the room appear full for online broadcasts. On another occasion, I was asked to leave immediately after service if I wasn't staying for the next one. AND EVERYDAY SOMEONE WOULD COME UP TO ME ASKING ME IF I HAVE A GROUP LEADER AND IF SO WHO! This was Very harassing environment. Another concerning issue is that the church does not allow individuals to be baptized when they feel led to do so. Instead, you’re required to pay and complete their Life Class first, as a prerequisite. They have no baptism in the church they hold at Alamoana park once or twice a year. Imagine that.

I was involved with this church for over a year. I genuinely appreciated the community and grew in my faith during that time. However, I gradually became uncomfortable with how spiritual authority was being exercised particularly in areas like dating, tithing, and personal decision-making. When it came to tithing, I was told by my lifegroup leader, “Give 10% or nothing at all,” which immediately raised concerns. During election season, I was criticized for choosing not to vote, and my faith was questioned because of it. I often felt more pressure to conform than encouragement to seek God personally. There were also subtle but concerning controls placed on personal interactions. For example, I was discouraged from speaking to any females at church even in casual, friendly contexts and my lifegroup leader would intervene anytime he saw me doing so. Over the course of a full year and some change, I never even got to meet or know a single woman in the church, which contributed to a sense of isolation and imbalance in the community. When I asked sincere questions about doctrine or leadership practices, I was labeled as “sowing discord,” which made me feel silenced rather than discipled. Every concern I raised was treated as an argument instead of a desire for understanding. Eventually, I was given an ultimatum: fully accept all the doctrines of WOL or leave the lifegroup. I was told my lifegroup leader functioned almost like a prophet, and that I should follow everything he said or did without question. Not long after, others in the group were instructed not to speak with me and were told I was “dangerous and being used by the enemy.” A week later, the pastor gave an entire sermon on discord, which was directly aimed at me. That was the final straw. I realized the environment had become very toxic and left little room for honest questions, healthy relationships, or genuine growth. Adding on, the thing that disturbed me the most was how financial matters were handled within the church. Leaders would frequently ask you how much was your income. However, many of the leaders and workers were on payroll, yet any time someone asked how much they were being paid, the response was defensive or evasive, like it was something to hide. Members were expected to pay for every spiritual growth step LifeClass(baptism), DT1, DT2, Vision Class, and more making it feel like faith was being sold rather than freely nurtured. What made this even more frustrating was the way the church treated the homeless. Despite being all around the building, homeless people were not welcomed they were ignored, excluded, and never offered help. One of my close friends was even kicked out simply for buying a class for a homeless person. That was hard to watch, especially because I had physically helped build the youth church during the construction process. I put in time, labor, and heart into serving every week, believing in the mission. But that moment and many like it made me realize this church didn’t reflect the love of Christ. Yet every time the pastors stepped off the stage, they have security with them, which felt out of place in a church that claims to be a community. Be very careful young people are often unknowingly funding the leaders of this church and adhering to the prosperity gospel which is nowhere near biblical. Its not about the soulful music or the bright lights. At the end of the day, our relationship with God is deeply personal. It should be rooted in love, trust, and truth not in fear, pressure, or manipulation. While community and guidance are important, no human should take the place of the Holy Spirit in your life. If you're ever in a place where questioning is discouraged, individuality is suppressed, or you're made to feel spiritually inferior for thinking differently, it’s okay to step back. God invites us to seek Him with our whole hearts, not just to follow others blindly. Let your relationship be with God alone not filtered through people who demand control, but anchored in His Word, His Spirit, and His grace.

Not a good experience, seemed like they wanted in my pockets constantly asking for money which is not normal or biblical. They asked and sometimes guilt you, even ask those who don't give to stand. Its sad to see and cult like. Plenty of other churches that don't abuse down the streets or nearby.

My boyfriend and I have been on the hunt for a church in Oahu and we really liked the community of people at this church compared to others. Lots of age range from young to old. The service is way longer than any church either of us has ever attended. Opening song and prayer was about average maybe 15-20 minutes and then the pastors message was over an hour. It was pretty hard to follow and just extremely longer than anything we were used to. We arrived at 10:30 and had to leave a little after 12 because my boyfriend had a soccer game. The pastor was still speaking with no sign of an end and so we weren’t even able to receive communion. Next time we know to account for at least 2 hours of service time (double any other service we’ve attended) if we want the whole experience.

My wife and I along with our 2 little girls moved to Oahu about 2 months ago. When we came to One Love (Kaka’ako) we knew we had found our new church home. From checking in the keiki’s to finding a seat for the service, we were treated like Ohana right away. The music was very spirit filled and authentic (I will probably use this word again)… Paster Waxer is without a doubt answering God’s calling on his life. He is honestly one of the best deliverers of scripture I have ever heard, and it doesn’t go light on the scripture at One Love! It ain’t cherry picked and it ain’t elementary either! I’ll also add that you will NOT fall asleep during the sermon cause Waxer is hyped up from start to finish man!! He gets you pumped up too! Honestly, It really is one of the most authentic churches we have ever been to. I love how much it shows respect to the island and it’s culture as well. If you’re looking for a church I highly encourage you to try out One Love! Only con: Parking can be a bit tricky so get there early enough to get a good spot and all.

While this review mainly focuses on the bon dance event, I feel that how a temple runs their event is a direct reflection on the temple itself, the minister and the congregation. [HANDICAP PARKING: ] Originally I was told that there be only two handicap parking stalls available at the top (there is a ramp that leads to an elevator so that is definitely a plus) and was also told that other than that you have to park at the Mission School which is not handicap accessible (distance & stairs). BUT on the actual day the information I stated before hand was different that day. In fact there was much more available then just the two so that was really good. [FOOD: ] They had PICKLED MOUNTAIN APPLE which i can't stress how good it is. I ended up buying several containers to hand out to friends in case they came late and it was already sold out. I wish there was more tsukemono but I understand why it couldn't be helped. To me when a temple takes the time to consider people that are either disabled or handicap it shows their compassion which is very important to Buddhist especially during Obon.

Nestled in the heart of Hawaii, the Makiki Christian Church stands out with its unique blend of cultural influences, particularly its strong Japanese roots. This welcoming community offers services in both English and Japanese, making it accessible to a diverse congregation. The church's stunning architecture is inspired by Kochi Castle from Japan, creating an inviting atmosphere that reflects its heritage. Visitors often praise the friendly nature of the members and their commitment to transparency and shared beliefs centered around biblical teachings.
A POPULAR, WELL-KNOWN CHERISHED CHRISTIAN HYMN BEGINS "A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never.failing...." Indeed, the founders of the Makiki Christian Church took these lyrics to heart. In the end, the design of their magnificent church, although only a fraction (one third or on fourth?) of the size of the original Kochi Castle in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, Japan, is based upon that well-known castle fortress. Our "Common Ground(s)," I believe, are discernable. Yes. Here in Hawaii, we represent very different religious beliefs. This is a very clear, undeniable fact. However, inspite of these undisputed issues, personally, I submit, that we share some spiritual matters, across our faiths, in common as well as many key humanitarian viewpoints. Dad and Mom recognized them and fully embraced this rich diversity. I will carefully endeavor to illustrate and highlight our many common perspectives, not dwell on our differences. And, you may ask, "What is an unmistakable Japanese castle doing standing in the middle of the Makiki community in Honolulu, Hawaii?" You will be amazed to discover, that the answer is very simple. The church founders, who came from Kochi, Japan, built the church structure and sanctuary, based upon popular church hymn entitled "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." And, this church design is an exact, although somewhat smaller, replica of the Kochi castle, in Kochi City, on the island of Shikoku, one of the four prominent islands, which make up Japan. Allow me then, to tackle these rich, amazing local historical and cultural realities as well as fascinating diversity.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, located in downtown Honolulu, is a sacred structure renowned for its Romanesque revival architecture constructed with coral blocks. It holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously used cathedral in the United States and was dedicated to Malia O Ka Malu (Lady of Peace) in the 1840s.
During our visit to Honolulu, our first stop was the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. This is a beautiful place to thank God for the gifts we have received 🙏. We loved the artwork of Saints Damian and Mary Ann Cope so much that we went to the gift shop and purchased a few Hawaiian Shirts with these two Saints and the Basilica printed on the shirts. The staff here was so gracious and nice to us as visitors. Thank you.

Attended a presentation at the Cathedral Basilica explaining about the various architectural and spiritual features of the building. The presenter said that it will be closed for renovations for approximately 8 months to 2 years after this Easter 2025. I encourage everyone to consider making a donation to help with renovations of this historic Cathedral where Saints Damien and Marianne's relics are kept and venerated. Areas that will be renovated include: the pipes on the organ, ceiling, side altars, wood pews, coral columns, side wall paneling and upper balcony and choir loft areas. After the tour we had the opportunity to attend Mass and pray at the special 2025 Jubilee Cross. Visit before Easter Monday before it closes.

Amazing!❤️. Very very good Church!✝️. The priest had an awesome homily on how God is the kind, loving and the good shepherd; he also mentioned that Our Savior Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life! While visiting Honolulu, we attended Sunday Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace and had a truly wonderful experience. The parish community was warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. What stood out most was the hospitality, we were even gifted a handmade seashell necklace, a thoughtful gesture that made us feel like part of the community rather than just visitors. The historic church itself is stunning and filled with a peaceful, reverent atmosphere. If you’re in Honolulu, whether Catholic or simply interested in history and culture, I highly recommend visiting this basilica. It’s both spiritually uplifting and a unique part of Hawaii’s heritage.

I came here for the 6am Christmas mass, and it was a little difficult to find the entrance in the dark. It is a fabulous looking church inside, I love the rich history of this cathedral. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and it was a great service. I personally have a special place in my life for Father Damien of Moloka'i, as I chose him as my confirmation name. So it is really cool where he was ordained here and is also buried here. My tip is to be aware that there is a parking garage that is off of Bishop street and choose the church option while parking.

Are there no washrooms around the church grounds. I am facilitator from the Liturgical Music Ministry of the Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Singapore. A friend was desperately looking for a toilet but was told; there was none. It’s Christmas Eve, and the church doors were locked. I was hoping to pray and offer my offerings that the Blessed Virgin Mary while I’m here. Seriously! Catholic Child.

I love Saint Rita Catholic Church! The priest had a great homily on how Jesus is the great healer who made the deaf hear, the blind see, and the mute speak. His homily was also a great homily about be strong, be courageous, and do not be afraid; especially since God’s teaching on “Do not be afraid” appears 365 times in the Bible. The people were kind. The music was great. The interior was beautiful. Without doubt worth going to! Have a great day and know our Savior Jesus Christ loves you!❤️⚓️✝️🙏💒🌊🌴

No longer attend mass there due to new priest being homophobic. He also looks down on people who are divorced. Very closed minded and doesn’t care about the people who made that church what was before he started tearing it apart. Church is a shell of its former self. Go somewhere else.

Warm welcoming! Mass has started and Fr Alapaki noticed our arrival and paused to announce us as visitors, asked where we are from and got aloha from the community! Mass very personal as in the upper room. Praying in Hawaiian dialect, performing aloha greetings, barefooted in church and using plant leaves as Pyx for EMC distribution to home bound—- we are blessed to have been led to this mission church!

This little country church (in a building that's over 100 years old) consistently and warmly welcomes everyone to worship. This place is stunning. As an architect the design is quite appealing and fits nicely with the local customs and culture of Oahu. The meetings are laid back and friendly, the open building allows for ample air flow from outside, and the people are very inviting and friendly. Attire is anywhere from Hawaii casual to suit and tie. Nobody looks sideways at you when you’re not sporting the “traditional mainland Sunday attire.” I love this place. And the music was absolutely stunning. Everyone sings along loudly, and the violin & French horn accompaniment for the organ were fantastic! Great job Honolulu tabernacle!!

CUC, a renowned and inclusive church in Honolulu, is deeply rooted in history. The church organizes various events throughout the year, such as the cherished Christmas Eve candlelight service, food distribution to support the community during the Covid-19 pandemic, and an innovative drive-thru Xmas manger. Among their prayer cards, some heartfelt words resonate profoundly. One card seeks God's guidance and compassion amidst challenges while asking for wisdom and protection for those in need of comfort.
Raised in the church. married here, kids baptised here, parents funerals here, did their website for 15 years, sang in the choir. this church is my home. The big gold cross in the front of the Sanctuary with the inscription LOVE NEVER FAILETH brings tears to my eyes. and I know many of the hymns by heart This church serves the community and welcomes everyone in the spirit of Aloha. <3 CUC

CUC is a large, historic, very well known and welcoming church. Events throughout the year such as Christmas Eve candlelight, food distribution during Covid-19 pandemic, and drive-thru Xmas manger. A couple of the prayer cards I have found inspiring: "Dear Lord We pray for your love and compassion as we walk through our challenges this week. We ask for wisdom in our choices. We pray for those who need comforting and protection. Help us approach our days in faith and peace, trusting in your goodness. Amen." "Loving Father, Thank you for your love and forgiveness, Thank you for another day for us to show love to others and to spread joy. Thank you for the breath in my lungs and another day to experience your loving kindness. Amen"

Saddened by the sudden loss of Father Pham-Nguyen Khanh, Saints Peter & Paul Church hosted a well-attended Memorial Service on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 7pm. We prayed the Holy Rosary at 6pm before mass. The choir and soloists sang well! Ushers and greeters were friendly and efficient! Afterwards, parishioners provided a great variety of refreshments under a tent with twinkling lights in the parking lot. Everything was well-organized... down to the informative program! Thank you!

This community really knows how to do online worship… As a visitor I felt welcomed and seen. The connections that are made between the community members the people in worship and the pastor is really quite extraordinary… And they and worship with small groups so that you can chat… My favorite part might be that you can come in early and be greeted and seen in the larger community before worship starts… These days it feels like online worship has become so much of a performance that the connection I go to worship for seems to be lost. A wonderful combination of beautiful music that is of course pre-recorded… And people really being together in worship…

My husband and i have visited this church several times and like the pastor and congregation. Pastor David Baumgart-Turner is down-to-earth and spiritual. Sermons are enlightening and he does not use any notes to speak. Church accepts everyone and is active in homeless and environmental issues. Reason for 4 stars is the sanctuary does not have any AC units or large fans which makes it hard on a hot summer day. But overall, a great church.

Kalihi Union Church is a loving and welcoming church that offers many classes and programs. The pastoral and office staff are always warm and welcoming. There are many safety protocols in place from the beginning of the pandemic, and they are always practiced. The church has a great mix of people from all over the islands, and it's easy to feel at home here.
I've been attending this church since I was in high school and have served in a bunch of different ministries, so I think I can say I know or church pretty well haha! KUC offers 3 English-speaking services on Sunday morning (715a, 9a & 1045a) in the main sanctuary, as well as a Japanese service that meets at 9a in our smaller chapel (w/ AC). We also play host to multiple cultural churches who share and call our campus home. There are multiple Sunday School classes, each teaching different topics of interest, opportunities to connect throughout the week in small groups, a plethora of different ministries, and amazing pastors who truly care about our spiritual well-being. Most importantly, we are a Bible-believing, God-fearing, Jesus-loving church, and we give God all the glory for the 100+ years He has faithfully watched over our church and has used it to bless His people. Is our church perfect? Absolutely not; praise the Lord for His abundant grace and mercy and His unconditional love. We're not a flashy church, nor are we out to impress, I don't think. I hope that if you do choose to visit, you feel welcomed, but I especially pray you feel the presence of God and that you would come to know the love of the Father who has known you and has had you in His sight since the very beginning of time.

Father Paul's sermons are meaningful and one stays awake. Refreshing - Father Hesburgh would be proud of this dedicated priest. One of the better traditional Catholic churches in the USA, at the conclusion of mass, they sang Amazing Grace. Remarkably it is sorely missing from so many churches. Catholic Church music on the whole is boring but it makes up by being dull. Explain, why it each and every church in United States of America we fail to sing God Bless America? Could there be a more uplifting song. There is no more appropriate song. Parishioners know the words (rare moment) and the melody inspires them. One awesome salute to both God and country. One on target concept, let's do it! One specious explanation given was its composer named Irving Berlin is Jewish...ridiculous. Time for music which uplifts the spirit and makes church special. Amen and GOD BLESS AMERICA ! Patrick former seminarian - Hawaii

This place, Blessed Sacrament Church, offers a unique experience with its confession and Rosary an hour before the Low Mass begins. The Padre efficiently manages everything within 60 minutes, setting it apart from other churches in America that hold similar services only on specific occasions. It is truly a hidden gem, contrasting with the practices of Bergoglio. If you happen to visit from Colorado, you can also attend a Wednesday night Mass accompanied by adoration in this serene and beautiful church.

Same thing with confession as there is typically a line.*** Literally the best church I've personally experienced on island and is the ONLY church that does TLM on Oahu.

Love this place — confession & Rosary an hour before (Low) Mass starts & Padre takes care of business in 60 minutes. How many places in America can you find this every Sunday at 10am (as opposed to every third equinox at 3). What a gem! Take THAT, Bergoglio!

Traditional Latin Mass celebrated every Sunday at 10am. First Saturdays at 9am. Confession and Rosary before each Mass. This place is a treasure. A simple church with beautiful liturgies.

It was such a blessing for my daughter and myself to worship our Lord in a original Latin Mass. 🙏🏻 We are praying that the TLM will flourish and grow in Hawaii and especially here on American Samoa. ✝️❤️🙏🏻

As of July 2021, Holy Family Church in [location] continues to adhere to social distancing guidelines and the wearing of masks for both staff and attendees. In addition, disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer are readily available on-site. The church has recently undergone renovations, resulting in an improved and more aesthetically pleasing environment. With over 30 years of serving as a parish member, it is clear that Holy Family Church holds a special place in the hearts of its dedicated congregation.
This was perfect for going to church to celebrate and honor my late Grandma Virgie since it rained here and we didnt get wet. I was happy that this church did an excellent service that day since I got to speak at the church as well as read a part from the bible thanks to the Redlands United Church of Christ.

Came for a funeral but I was blown away at how beautiful and gorgeous this church was. It was 9am and the sun lit up the inner sanctum and filled my heart with joy. Highly recommend just hope for happier reasons.

We are visiting from New York and wanted to visit your beautiful church and to attend 11am mass last sunday. But there was a sign on the road that it is restricted for non military. We are so disappointed we went to a different catholic church....sorry

Saint Patrick’s Church is a hidden gem that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who visit. This charming church, steeped in rich history, provides an inviting space where the congregation and staff truly value their community. With friendly priests ready to listen or offer blessings after mass, it’s easy to feel at home here. The spacious parking lot adds convenience for visitors, although the building could use some repairs—donations are appreciated to help maintain its beauty.
People are friendly. It's a beautiful church. The congregation and staff really cherish this tiny church. It has such rich history. They also have a private school behind.

In 1962 I was baptized at this Church. And my family and I lived right up the Rd. This is a beautiful and loving place to come and visit. 1973 we move to Maui. Maui is a beautiful island great place to go and visit. But there's no place like home. It's not the wizard of Oz. Beautiful. My God bless all of us. Aloha everyone.

Beautiful church! I was looking to attend Mass while in town. Phone call goes to a dead voicemail box. Website link doesn't work. Hoping staff will read this review and post Mass and confession times. Thanks!

Friendly, welcoming church. Priests there will gladly hear an impromptu confession or bless something for you after mass. Spacious, convenient large parking lot. Building needs a lot of repair, so help the church out with a donation if you can.

The Lutheran Church of Honolulu is a vibrant community hub that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all. Recently, I attended an enchanting classical music concert there, where talented musicians from across the city came together to create a flawless performance in the church's spacious indoor setting. The venue not only provides ample seating for audiences but also serves as a gathering place for various activities, including AA meetings.
I went to the Lutheran Church of Honolulu in the evening for a performance of Classical Music. The concert was magical !!!! The conductor had organized musicians from many different places in Honolulu and assembled a very talented orchestra. Their performance was flawless. The Lutheran Church offered them a large indoor area to practice and to perform, with plenty of seating for the audience. It’s commendable to know that this Church values the community by offering this amazing orchestra a home to practice and perform.

decent people who treat us with respect. we recently came from a bad cult church called the honolulu church of christ located on keeaumoku street. they were dishonest with our money and are running a non profit SCAM. Our family needed help such as food and shelter and they abandoned and betrayed us.

Blessed visit to a beautiful parish we've wanted to see in person for many years.
Emiley O — Google review
While we were there, the icon of the Theotokos produced myrrh abundantly all throughout the Sunday liturgy, the glass covering was so splattered with myrrh that the icon itself became a bit hard to see. And the wonderful strong scent of roses coming both from it and the crucifix! While we were there the crucifix remained dry, though it still produced the heavenly scent, but our friends, who were there two weekends before, say that they saw three drops of myrrh on it. The parish is very diverse there. They serve mainly in English with bits in a variety of other languages, such as Church Slavonic, even Hawaiian. One of the four priests there in Greek, and another is Romanian, so some of those languages also make an appearance and they can receive confessions in those languages. The church has a nice shop that focuses on books, of which they have a very good selection and in a wide array of languages.

A beautiful Church - so serene and peaceful. I was visiting from New Zealand and was able to participate in an Akathist Hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos and to venerate the Myrrh-Streaming icon - a wonderful blessing.

It was a great blessing to share in the pre sanctified liturgy at the Holy Theotokos of Iveron Russian Orthodox Church. It was a lovely introduction into the Russian orthodox tradition. I was warmly welcomed and blessed to have the opportunity to venerate the holy myrrh weeping icon of our most blessed theotokos. I pray all grace, peace and help be afforded to their ministry.

The Church is built in a good shape and the people are nice. It can be hard to find parking on a busy Sunday, but it's worth it because the church is great. Recently I went to another church called the Honolulu Church of Christ, and they were very dishonest with money. I was really uncomfortable with that, so I would definitely recommend First Christian Church of Honolulu to anyone looking for a respectable place of worship.
would highly recommend the folks are nice. and the building is in pretty good shape. it will be hard to find parking though on a busy sunday. we recently attended another church called the honolulu church of christ and they were very dishonest with our money and it was very hard for us to put trust in another church.

We initially attended & wrote a review in 2022 after having left our hometown due to experiencing the highly questionable loss of a much beloved one. Our review has since disappeared. Here is that review redux: Pastor Nan Riddle's acendency in curating an atmosphere of palpable spirituality invokes a sense of internal purpose regarding our relationship with our Lord. Her purpose as a pastor is crystal clear & her substantive words transcend the everyday dialog we're exposed to. Her words ignite within us the deep authentic questions we too often flee from out of fear or comfortable distraction. She creates an environment that slows down the fast-paced world around us, which is pivotal in recognizing & realigning ourselves so that we can be more receptive to God's plan & the great purpose instilled into our lives. The importance of consistent exposure to spiritual sanctuaries is paramount in guiding the soul through salvation's narrow path. To have someone like Pastor Nanto is a blessing that should never be taken for granted as she efficiently guides us towards what is true in a world full of false & popular temptations. Thank you.

The church now has a fence around it! Not good 1/23/2024 drove there only to find the property has a fence around it and gate locked. the website says open until 1230PM? I tried calling the Church several times but no one answers the phone?

The staff and priests at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu are exceptional. The Cathedral Basilica is abundant in historical significance and will undergo restoration to revive its magnificence and grandeur. The individuals are incredibly kind-hearted. It is a constant reminder from God to remain humble, regardless of the circumstances. The mass services are truly remarkable.

Such a cute little church located in the heart of Kalihi! Public services, worship sessions, and support offer seven days a week to the community. Atmosphere is warm and cozy. Very inviting. No judgement or uneasiness felt when I attended a few of their Sunday sermons. I love that they have a space dedicated for kids. Refreshments and candies offered.
