Zoo
Outdoor Activities
The Honolulu Zoo is a 42-acre family-friendly attraction located at the end of Waikiki, towards Diamond Head. It's the only zoo in the US to have originated from a king's grant by King Kalakaua. With over 900 animals, including elephants, orangutans, and komodo dragons, it offers a diverse range of wildlife. The zoo also hosts events and educational programs for visitors to enjoy.
I haven't been to a zoo in eons. This zoo has great exhibits with big animals like tigers, elephants, giraffes, a warthog, gibbons monkeys, huge tortoise and hippos! Very impressed with the reptile and bird exhibits! Wow, very cool. Plenty of shady spots to sit and rest. To the right of the entrance/gift shop and across from flamingos there's a purified refillable water fountain and bathroom. Several clean bathrooms scattered throughout the zoo. Gorgeous trees and 🌺 flowers. The parking lot has kiosks for paying - $1.50/hr. Three hours was the perfect amount of time to walk the entire zoo without rushing.

If you have little ones or just love seeing animals, I definitely recommend spending some time at the Honolulu Zoo! It’s such a fun and relaxing spot right in Waikīkī, and it’s perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking for something enjoyable to do outdoors. We visited in October with our family of 10, including several young kids, and everyone had a great time. The weather was absolutely perfect — warm but not too hot — and there was plenty of shade throughout the zoo to keep things comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. This isn’t necessarily an all-day adventure, but that’s part of what makes it great. You can easily see everything in about half a day and still feel like you got the full experience. There’s a nice variety of animals to see — some of our favorites were the different monkeys, the giraffes, the hippo, the lion, and the tiger. The bird exhibits were also amazing, with so many colorful and unique species. The kids were especially fascinated by the monkeys and loved watching them swing around and play. We appreciated that the zoo was clean, easy to navigate, and not overly crowded when we went. There are spots to grab snacks or drinks, and it’s located near plenty of places to eat if you want to grab lunch afterward. The price of admission is very reasonable, especially considering how much fun and learning it offers for kids and adults alike. Overall, we had such a great experience at the Honolulu Zoo. It’s the perfect half-day outing for families visiting Oʻahu — educational, entertaining, and just the right pace for a relaxing day. Highly recommend adding it to your list of things to do while in Honolulu!
Life R — Google review
Nice staff, clean grounds, and a decent variety of animals. Elephants, giraffes, and African Penguins were some of our favorites. Some spaces were under renovation. We didn’t realize until we were there that they also have a nighttime at the zoo event on some Saturdays. Take sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle.
Holly W — Google review
This is the cleanest zoo I’ve ever been to and had a lot of variety of animals. I got to take my husband here for his first ever zoo experience. I love the exhibits and how it felt like you were in a world away from the city with the trees and landscape. I can tell the staff really takes care of the animals. Definitely hit up their cafe as they have delicious options that will surely satisfy your hunger. We spent a long time there as we wanted to see everything and get our tickets worth. Make sure to wear comfy shoes as it will take you more than two hours to see everything. We went on a weekday close to opening and it wasn’t too busy.
Savannah K — Google review
For $21 per adult and free for our 18 month old daughter, there is value for what you pay. That said, many exhibits were closed. We were able to enter without any wait. Bird heavy zoo/exhibits. Elephants, Giraffes and lions were my favorite. The highlight was the gibbons being quite lively (see video, volume up)! The giant koi fish were impressive as well. You’re definitely getting your steps in visiting this zoo! Be sure to pay for parking at the pay station before you enter and leave the receipt on your dashboard. Fair amount of parking.
Chad P — Google review
What a cute zoo! Very good variety of animals. Animals had tons of space. They looked comfortable and happy. We had a great time!
Goar E — Google review
Amazing zoo! Great half off Veteran and Military discount. Get there early because it can be hot and lots to see! The monkeys, tigers, and little foxes were my favorite. Amazing date idea if you have some down time in Oahu or need some laid back to do in walking distance.

The Honolulu Zoo was a great outing. In actual exhibits it’s light compared to other zoos we’ve been too, but the grounds a lovely. The trees and fauna are gorgeous. Every part of the experience was enjoyable.

Specialty Museums
Bishop Museum, also known as the Hawaii State Museum of Natural and Cultural History, is a must-visit destination in Oahu. Established in 1888, it honors the legacy of Princess Bernice with millions of artifacts and exhibits showcasing Hawaiian and other Pacific Island cultures. The museum's impressive building exudes old-world charm with its dark wood and wrought iron accents.
Took our 2.5 year old who loves dinosaurs to see the dinosaur exhibit. The exhibit did not disappoint. The dinosaurs were lifelike and moved/made noises. While there we also went to the Hawaii Culture center to learn more about Hawaiian culture. You could spend days in the three floors of Hawaiian culture. We also went to the science building to learn about bees, lava, and wind. It was a great educational and fun visit.
Sue H — Google review
The best museum on the islands! The buildings were beautiful and full of so much history. We loved all the artifacts, interactive displays, and knowledgeable staff. It’s a great place to walk around and revel in Hawaiian history. There’s also a fun science and dinosaur centers. Don’t forget to stop by the food center to get some truly amazing coffee and food too. Worth every penny!
K — Google review
I recently visited the Bishop Museum and was thoroughly impressed! The exhibits on Hawaiian history and culture were fascinating, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. The planetarium shows were also a upcharge, but offering a unique perspective on the stars and navigation. My only suggestion would be to allow more time to explore the separate exhibits, as they were spread out across different buildings. Overall, a fantastic experience that I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in learning about Hawaiian culture and history.
Ben C — Google review
There are Kama’aina rates for the islanders, the waistline was not long. I recommend at least two hours prior to start browsing before closing time. The Planetarium, The Hawaiian Sky Tonight, is like a collage lecture, it is not a movie like I expected, if you’d like enjoy lecture experience it’s a good idea to go. Ticket purchase up the front with admission, and don’t forget the extra ticket to drop in the basket before entering. The show room is right on your right when you enter the museum, AC is nice. Dinosaur is available this year, it’s worth going, cute dinosaurs are really active.
Diana W — Google review
Cannot recommend this museum highly enough! It was fascinating to learn about the history and heritage of the Hawaiian people. The building itself and the grounds are beautiful and there are numerous fascinating artifacts, from throughout Hawaiian history. It is worth getting tickets in advance, as there is a slight discount.
Rani — Google review
The Bishop Museum is a must-visit in Honolulu for anyone interested in Hawaiian culture, history, and natural sciences. The exhibits are impressive and well presented, from ancient Hawaiian artifacts and royal family treasures to fascinating displays about Polynesian navigation and volcanoes. The planetarium shows and interactive science exhibits make it especially engaging for families and kids. The museum is spacious, beautifully designed, and offers a deep insight into the heritage of Hawaii and the Pacific. A perfect balance of education and inspiration — highly recommended!
Ernesto G — Google review
This museum is a must visit to get know the story of Hawaii. I visited the museum twice since I didn’t have enough time to see it all the first time I went. The building is beautiful and the display is extremely unique. They did a great job putting this together and keeping it in the shape it is today. I’m thankful I’m able to see it and show to our guests when they visit us on island. It is the first place I recommend them to visit. The museum also organizes dedicated events throughout the year, that are, in my opinion, extremely interesting. I try to miss out on them and take my family if we can. Also need to add that the planetarium was a surprise and would definitely recommend it.
Austin — Google review
As a local resident of Oʻahu, I was really hoping to enjoy the Bishop Museum, but unfortunately, it left me disappointed. I understand that prices get marked up for tourists, but for what’s actually offered here, the cost just doesn’t feel justified. Admission is already on the higher side, and to top it off, parking is an additional $18 — not included in the ticket price. That alone felt like a bit of a cash grab. The museum itself is made up of three main buildings, but only one of them really contains true historical artifacts. The others are mostly displays or exhibits that feel more geared toward school field trips than genuine cultural or historical exploration. For the price, I expected a much more immersive or substantial experience. This could be a quick stop if you’re visiting and have never learned about Hawaiian history before, but as someone who lives here, I found it underwhelming and overpriced. Definitely not something I’d recommend to other locals.

The Waikiki Aquarium, situated along the stunning shores of Waikiki in Honolulu, is a delightful destination for marine enthusiasts and families alike. Established in 1904, this charming aquarium is one of the oldest public facilities in the U.S., dedicated to showcasing the rich diversity of Hawaiian and tropical Pacific marine life.
Good and cozy place, though small enough. Looks like being maintained mostly by donations and volunteers. But overall it’s a great experience. You will find a lot to see about coral reefs life, jellyfishes and even reef and tiger shark there.
Ruslan F — Google review
Waikiki Aquarium: A Mix of Old Charm and Marine Wonders The Waikiki Aquarium offers a fascinating glimpse into Hawaii's marine life, but it's a bit of a mixed bag. Parking is limited, though weekdays offer a better chance of snagging a spot. The outdoor exhibits are currently under renovation, which is a bummer, but the indoor displays are where the aquarium truly shines. The jellyfish are mesmerizing, and the grouper is a definite highlight. You'll also find plenty of other cool creatures to admire. The seahorses were especially amazing! However, the aquarium's age shows in some areas. Some of the signage and stickers feel a bit outdated. Still, if you're looking for a quick and easy way to see some amazing marine animals, and at a relatively cheap price, the Waikiki Aquarium is worth a visit.
W Z — Google review
Visited this aquarium on the way to Diamond Head monument. Not too expensive to get in. We paid on the door. Loads of aquatic tanks of various sizes - containing a variety of tropical and local fish. Some tanks seem a bit small for the fish - but plenty to see and some expansion is still going on (I believe). Had a couple of school visits on the day we visited. A couple of experts on hand to explain the fish and history of local aquatic life. If you’ve got time on your hands I’d suggest popping into here to kill a bit of time. The blue jellyfish tank is cool.
Sardev S — Google review
We were looking for an escape from the heat and this was not it. There was no AC in this place. We paid $12 a person but half of this place is closed. We were in and out in under an hour. Theres maybe five rooms tops with tanks on three walls each. Many of the tanks seem very small or overcrowded for what is being stored in there. Two of the seahorses we saw looked like they were dying (discolored and falling forward on their face in the sand). The outdoor exhibits were closed. I don't know what used to be there but from what we could see it was a small monk seal exhibit. It's says they are working on refurbishments but I'm not sure what all that entails. And given the space they are working with I can't imagine it will be that much bigger. I'm all for animal and sea/ocean conservation, but I feel like more should be available to justify charging people full price. Or at least let the crowds/people know that most exhibits aren't available.
Alexis B — Google review
Very cute and quaint gem, very cool to visit the second oldest aquarium in the US. It was small but definitely enough cool marine life to see. The outdoor area had the seal and some coral. Inexpensive!
Savannah K — Google review
The aquarium is very very small. Only one exhibit was open at the time due to construction. The outdoor exhibit doesn't have anything other than the Monk Seal, which luckily we were able to see. It was only $12 USD per adult. Probably spent 1 hour here, but could've been less if we didn't sit to enjoy the AC for a bit.
Karen K — Google review
Short and sweet visit to the Aquarium, doesn’t cost too much - so I can def recommend for a date, solo visit, or family trip! It is small, and sadly the seal exhibit was closed when I went… why I knocked a star.
Dominic P — Google review
The entry staff were friendly, but no other staff noted throughout aquarium. Many displays were not working, lighting not working at several displays. We saw a variety of tank fish, but all outdoor large animal areas were closed due to renovation.

Hanauma Bay is a popular nature preserve and marine life conservation district on Oahu. It offers a beautiful beach, opportunities to see green sea turtles and parrotfish, and excellent snorkeling. To avoid crowds and enjoy clear waters, consider arriving before 7am when entry may be free. The bay was previously harmed by human development but has been restored under new conservation procedures.
Beautiful beach with plenty of reef. Got snorkeling gear and was able to see so many varieties of fish even on a very windy day. Felt like we had a better snorkeling experience on left side of the beach. There’s a store where you can rent all the snorkeling equipment you need. Reservations highly recommended.
Akash Y — Google review
Beautiful nature preservation on Oahu. Amazing location for snorkeling! Extremely busy so you have book your registration spots online 2 days in advance or visit in person before 7am the day of just to have a chance at getting in! The earlier you get in, the longer you can stay as they close at 3pm. A must visit if you can get in!
Philip C — Google review
This was my first time snorkeling! Perfect place for it! You can rent or bring your own. There is so much to see undewater! The fish are unbelievable and not at all scared of you, but you have to be careful of where you step. Also, if you're coming to Hawaii for a short time & want yo bisit Maunalua Bay, make sure you visit the website at least 48 hours prior to book a reservation because it goes fast!! However it's absolutely worth seeing and the beach is gorgeous!!
Marta S — Google review
Pay USD25 for tickets to get in. We went with a 'tour' for around USD50 per pax, which included hotel pickup and snorkeling equipment included, and I also added USD10 for a life vest. We arrived the earliest at 6.45 am when the park opens, but the waters were sadly too cold and we decided to enjoy by relaxing on the beach instead. The tour ends at 11:00 More visitors came at around 10:30 when the sun was stronger and a little bit more pleasant. Recommend to come on your own (totally doable) and especially if your hotel already provides snorkelling gear and beach hotels etc for free (as ours did), so you can pick the best time and leave as you wish.
WM — Google review
Good and safe place for snorkeling. Reservations are in place, book early and on time. There is parking fee as well. Saw beautiful fishes but not much as in Shark’s cove. There is a shop to rent out snorkel gears, price ranges from 10-20$. The depth increases as you go away from the beach so it is not random.
Shashank P — Google review
The view was breathtaking. Disappointed by the amount of fish we see while snorkeling, the best place to snorkel is in Sharks Cove. You have to book to get in at 7am 2 days ahead, parking is a bit of a nightmare. The clear water makes up for it. We went in the afternoon just hours before the beach closes and it was very crowded. We managed to take a few pictures of the water without people in it and it’s just heaven on earth.
Portia K — Google review
Bought tickets to snorkel here and had a blast. They brief you on what you can and can't do before you head down so just follow the rules. You can rent gear and equipment if you want. I would highly suggest getting snorkeling gear there is so much to see in the coral reef.
Michael — Google review
We booked an early spot which I recommend as you can get parking and it’s not too hot - there is limited shade at the beach This was a great snorkeling experience - we were in the water over an hour and were able to rinse off with the showers before leaving Could have better snack options - perhaps close to the beach

Sea Life Park Hawaii, located north of Hanauma Bay in Honolulu, is a family-friendly marine mammal park and aquarium. The park offers various attractions such as penguin and sea lion shows, as well as the opportunity to swim with dolphins. Visitors can enjoy up-close encounters with a variety of sea creatures, informative talks by professional trainers, and hands-on activities. It's considered one of the top marine life and wild animal parks globally, providing educational and entertaining experiences for all family members.
Sea Life was a nice little stop — not a huge place, so you can easily see everything in just a couple of hours. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a short and fun activity. My absolute favorite part was the bird sanctuary 🦜 — such a cool experience! They hand you sticks with food, and the parrots just fly right up to you. So colorful, friendly, and it makes for the cutest photos! Overall, a fun spot to visit if you want something light and easy to do — especially if you love animals and interactive experiences. 🌊✨
Kristina S — Google review
Many of the fish appeared to be in poor health, although a little sign mentioned they were already in that condition when adopted. The park itself was quite small—we completed the entire visit in just over an hour, including approximately 20 minutes observing the dolphins, which were confined to a small pool and displaying rough behavior (perhaps theyre having fun?) Overall, the ticket price did not feel justified. Given the condition of the facility and the animals, it was difficult to feel good about supporting the business. Also, on top of the hefty ticket price, parking is $18/car
Clemen L — Google review
Came here for the first time in a long time with my family. The tickets are really expensive unless you have kama’aina discount with your Hawaii ID. I remember this was packed with sea creatures and shows. Now, everything looks run down, closed down, and majority of the marine life is cut in half. The park looked a lot bigger than I remember when I was a kid, but a lot has changed. At least they have the birds and/or sea turtle exhibits where we can still feed them. The bird food is free, but the turtle food is approximately $6 which comes with a souvenir cup that you can keep. Overall, the admission tickets is just too expensive for such a small area with sea creatures. The staff are super friendly. Lots of parking, but you have to pay approximately $9. There are gift shops, a food court area, and a playground area for kids.
K. T — Google review
I was looking forward to seeing sea turtles but I wound up loving every exhibit we went to! Check the scheduled feeding times before going if you’re interested in seeing and learning more about specific animals. There is paid parking onsite. We did the luau and the park on separate days. The luau includes food, drinks, interactive cultural activities and ends with a show celebrating all of the Pacific Islander cultures. Very fun and engaging!
Angela M — Google review
We went to Sea Life Park and the Luau. When I say we LOVED them both this is no exaggeration. We fed the turtles, saw the dolphins and the sea lions acted like they were putting on a show for us. Then we came back for the Luau. It was spectacular!!! This was one of the highlights of our trip. The activities were great, the food was delicious and the show was absolutely incredible. I am so so glad we chose Sea Life Park as part of our trip.
Connie P — Google review
We did the sea life park and Luau experience, the park is a little small but included some animal demonstrations and feedings. The sea turtle feeding experience was a lot of fun and brought the turtle up close to see. The Luau experience was amazing and included food, drinks, and cultural activities. There was some rain showers during our visit but they do have a covered area to eat/wait out the rain if needed.
Madison — Google review
The eight of us arrived very late with just over an hour to spare which meant we missed most of the shows/animal feedings, making us feel rushed and sort of short changed (not the park's fault that we were late, obviously). In walks Sadie, the bird lady, whose friendliness and wisdom made the trip with while. She answered any aviary questions, concerns about the park. Her love for the birds and Eva (an old bird) is obvious. Sadie, thank you for your time, devotion to the animals and friendlessness. Thank you for making our visit amazing!
JENNIFER S — Google review
Got there an hour before they closed for the luau. We were worried it wasn't enough time to see everything, while we missed a few presentations an hour was plenty of time to see the animals. The luau was wonderful! Lots of things to do, eat and the main event was fun to watch. We were encouraged to participate which made it more fun.

Pearl Harbor National Memorial is a significant site that commemorates the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. It includes the USS Arizona Memorial, a museum, and galleries. Managed by the National Park Service, it consists of five distinct destinations. The memorial not only tells the story of the devastating Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor but also covers other historical events such as wartime internment of Japanese Americans and World War II battles.
We were there when there was two construction so it was not possible to get advanced tickets. We were able to get there early in the morning and get on the waiting list. Then I'm already outside is very moving. The memorial itself is actually US Navy property and the personnel are very military and expect respect and reverence. The historical visitor center information was interesting. We didn't pay for the guided out of your tour but didn't feel it we were missing anything. There are two other museums that are attached for an additional charge but the national park itself is free. We found the park rangers here to be exceptional and very well versed in their subject matter.

Hard not to tear up out here. So many families changed instantly. Eternal respect for all those who serve with honor. Heaven forbid those have to pay the same sacrifice! Word to the wise- don't see anywhere listed that the last boat out to the USS Arizona Memorial is at 330 pm (1530 hrs), though the Park is open until 5 pm. (1700 hrs) The Bowfin is quite an experience to walk through..These guys we're tasked with one of the ultimate risks of a wartime environment. Getting thru the bulkhead doors was something at 65 w two total hips....they ran through them when needed elsewhere in the Sub. Truly astounding. The museum for the submarine service is remarkable. Lots to learn there. Too much to see in one or two visits....we need to return. Reckon this place is a huge linchpin in United States history. Gettysburg, Lexington, and Pearl Harbor; all US citizens should be able to recite their importance in US history. Can I? Not completely, and it's shameful. Sure I learned some in 4th grade, and on. But these events are what our freedoms are founded on; what gave us and the world notice of our ability and intent following those events. We should all know them better.

If you’re planning a trip to Oahu, visiting the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is an absolute must. It’s one of those places that really makes history come alive, and best of all, entry is completely free. The memorial is beautifully maintained, and the exhibits do an incredible job of telling the story of Pearl Harbor and the events of World War II. It’s a powerful, moving experience that gives you a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by so many. A few tips to make your visit smoother: if you’re driving, pay for parking because spots fill up fast, especially in the mornings. Speaking of mornings, I highly recommend arriving early—the lines for the USS Arizona Memorial ferry can get long. The ferry itself is free, and it’s a serene, respectful way to pay your respects at the Arizona. One important note: no bags are allowed on the ferry, so plan to leave them at home or securely in your car. Take your time walking through the exhibits and reading the plaques—there’s a lot of history packed into the memorial, and it’s really worth absorbing. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious about one of the most significant moments in American history, this visit is both educational and moving. Overall, the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is an unforgettable experience. It’s well-organized, meaningful, and a must-see if you’re on Oahu. Don’t miss it!

This is a large memorial that has various sections spread across the area, and involves a lot of walking. There are several attractions on site, all ticketed separately, or can be combined with one single passport pass. The only free attraction is the Arizona Memorial, for which you actually get on a free 5 minute boat ride, and get to spend 15 minutes at the site. The rest include various plaques, sculptures, memorial boards etc. All ticketing and experience details are listed and priced on the official website. Would highly recommend wearing easy to walk shoes, and bring a hat as most attractions are open air and it’s hot when sunny. There are restrooms located across various points. There is a gift shop and book store at the exit of the memorial. The virtual reality tours are really nice and very decently priced.

A once in a lifetime experience. All that you read about visiting it is confusing. Go and just enjoy the Memorial and gain your own memories. The movie is a MUST see. The trip to the Arizona is a nice boat ride. You only need about 15 minutes on the Arizona Memorial its self. Enjoy the park wander and explore what is interesting to you. Take in what you can and don't feel like you have to do it all. If you have never been on a battleship or submarine experience it here otherwise there is plenty to explore. Nice gift shop lots of unique its specific to Pearl Harbor. I did a self guided tour was there for 3 hour and was happy with my visit. They sell snacks and drinks. Have adequate restrooms. DO NOTE WHAT TYPE OF BAG YOU TRY TO BRING IN. I had a clear see through bag with water and snacks and had no problem.

Amazing place to visit in Oahu. The entrance is free and we also watched a short historical movie in a small theater for free. Everything is clean and very well organized. It is emotional and educational. Everyone who comes to Hawaii should visit this memorial. Highly recommend

It's just almost too hard to talk about it. In every way it was worth visiting and honoring so many veterans that have lost their life to sea. We were very blessed to be there on veterans day. May every one of their souls rest in the peace.

Ala Moana Center is a premier shopping destination located in the Ala Moana neighborhood, just a short drive from Waikiki. It boasts over 350 stores, including upscale department stores like Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, as well as budget-friendly options and local boutiques. The center also offers a wide range of dining choices with over 70 restaurants and eateries to explore.
This mall is incredible! There is every store you can imagine and some we never even heard of! There are four (4) floors and it is an open-air mall so you are walking around outside, which is different, but nice. All of the stores we went into were nice and clean. The employees everywhere were very helpful. We went for the Lego store, but we ended up spending hours here after seeing all there was to look at. This is definitely a great way to spend a day. We would visit here again.

Amazing open-air shopping mall in the heart of Honolulu! It’s huge, beautifully designed, and full of tropical plants and ocean breeze. You can find everything here — luxury boutiques, local Hawaiian brands, and great cafés like eBar inside Nordstrom. The atmosphere is cozy yet vibrant, with both tourists and locals relaxing around. There’s live music, plenty of restaurants, and it’s spotlessly clean. Perfect place to shop, eat, and unwind under the Hawaiian sun.

This mall is huge, over 350 stores! The biggest open air mall of the US!!! They have all the high end designers like LV, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Giorgio Armani and other popular brands Tory Burch, Lululemon, The North Face, Yeti, Hoka, Sephora, Kate Spade just to name a few. There are plenty of dining options sit down (BDubs, Morton’s Steakhouse, Korean BBQ, Vietnamese, Olive Garden are some), casual (Chick-fil-a, sushi, Jack n the box, Raising Canes…too many to name!) ands snacks n drinks (Auntie Annie’s, Baskin Robbin’s, Starbucks, coffee, bakery’s, shaved ice only to name a few!) This mall is like an outlet, there are 9 levels for parking! Also easily accessible by public transportation, trolleys and ride shares. You definitely need a full day and walking shoes if you wish to scroll this beauty!

Wonderful outdoor mall with super convenient shopping experience and great location only 10 minutes' drive from Waikiki. I can say that the mall has everything we need, plenty of parking and easy access to another floors and stores.

Free parking, variety of shops at different price points, and free daily hula show at 5pm! It's a nice outdoor mall with a weird layout though. They do have all the overpriced bougie stores in the main walkway, but it you go towards the sides you'll find stores with more affordable prices.

Opening hours are 10 am to 8 pm Free parking on 9 floors. Very nice open air mall with 350 stores. Many designers, Bloomingdale’s, macys, Neumann Marcus, target, Nordstrom, foodland, Barnes and noble… Very large and nice food court with lots of choices.

After attending the Honolulu Marathon Expo at the Hawaii Convention Centre around the corner, I found my way gravitating towards Ala Moana Centre. As it was dark already, I didn't realise it was an open area shopping centre, I just thought it was dark low level lighting to add to the ambience. This place is massive, so many stores to choose from. It was December when I visited so Christmas was in full swing, including on the Centre Stage with Carols. The Food Court was massive with plenty of choices. Easy to walk as well, a pleasant walk back to Kuhio Avenue from Ala Moana Centre.

Iolani Palace, located in Honolulu, is a historic 19th-century royal residence that once housed Hawaii's last monarchs. It has been restored and transformed into a museum offering tours and exhibits for visitors to explore the rich history of the Hawaiian monarchy. The palace was home to Queen Liliuokalani and King Kalakaua from 1882 to 1893 until the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy.
Iolani Palace is a beautiful and special place to visit in Honolulu. It’s full of history and has a peaceful atmosphere. I didn’t know much about Hawaiian royalty before, but the tour taught me a lot. It’s the only royal palace in the United States, which makes it quite unique. The building is stunning, both outside and inside. The rooms are well kept, and you can see where the kings and queens of Hawaii once lived. Everything is very elegant. From the wooden staircase to the royal dining room. You can really feel the history when you walk through the palace. I took the audio tour, which was very helpful and easy to follow. It made the experience more meaningful and helped me understand Hawaiian culture better. The staff were also friendly and helpful. They gave clear directions and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Nice to learn about the history of Hawaii and loyal family. This palace was not an actual palace that king lived in it was just one of the places he stayed when he had a guess. Sadly, the basement was closed for maintenance, so I only went two floors of the palace. No taking video inside only noncommercial camera without flash. They have self-audio tour so you can choose which room you want to go, and most people just follow the room number. Overall is not bad and kids will like it but I just feel it is kind of small compared to the ticket price.
Melissa N — Google review
Great cultural experience of the history of Hawaii from King Kamehameha on. The palace is extremely impressive with the portraits and technology that was ahead of its time. This is a definite must see to truly understand and embrace the true Hawaii!

This is a must-visit location for anyone interested in learning more about the past. Every corner is rich with historical significance, and the exhibits are thoughtfully curated to offer both educational value and engaging stories. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious, there’s so much to take in and appreciate. The staff is knowledgeable, and the atmosphere really brings the stories to life. Highly recommended for families, students, or anyone looking to connect with history in a meaningful way.

An icon of Hawaiian history and heritage. The guided audio tour was very well organized without being overwhelming. The information presented in the audio narration was concise without missing important details - there were many excerpts included from letters and diaries of the Hawaiian royals and their associates which added great atmosphere to the overall experience. The palace itself is beautiful and very well maintained. There are many spots on the palace lawns to sit and relax and take in the surroundings. There's also a massive Banyan tree behind the palace, not sure how old, but nonetheless magnificent to behold. Highly recommend visiting the Iolani Palace if you can.
Arunabha M — Google review
If you're a history nerd and hate the whitewashing of Hawaiian history, definitely visit the Iolani Palace. We did the audio tour which I made me wish we did the docent tour just so I could ask questions. The palace is stunning, and they did an amazing job restoring it and continuing to maintain it. They do provide wheelchairs which my partner and I needed due to different foot injuries, but it's very difficult to navigate as the door frames are very small and some rooms you'll need to go a different route to enter.

I enjoyed this visit. It was pretty well kept and the audio guides were very helpful. We could also bring our baby in a stroller with no issues - there is an elevator inside. The workers were also very friendly and help us navigate the building. Mahalo!

This is a nice and classy store in the heart of downtown Waikiki. They have a good slection of high end shops, special mention having an ABC store since you can find anything here and for souvenirs. This mall also have a variety of food selection from food court and special dine in, like Cheesecake Factory. I’ve been here on different seasons and I love that this mall features different theme of live shows. I went during lunar new year and they had the Lion dance show and red enevelope ceremony. They also feature other activities for kids and live music, just check their website for the schedule. They usually have it posted on several entrances of the mall. This mall is also a short walking distance to Waikiki beach; there’s a pathway to the beach, slightly across from this mall; you won’t miss it as it’s lined up with a display of surf boards. And because of its convenient location, many people love shopping here and dining then you can just walk to the beach and relax. A Shopping Gem in Waikiki! Having explored shopping malls across multiple countries and continents, I was pleasantly surprised by the Royal Hawaiian Center—it truly exceeded my expectations. This expansive, beautifully decorated, and impeccably maintained venue offers more than just a premier shopping experience; it seamlessly blends world-class retail with diverse dining options, creating an atmosphere that is both vibrant and inviting. What sets the Royal Hawaiian Center apart is its commitment to showcasing Hawaiian culture. Guests can enjoy a variety of complimentary events and workshops, immersing themselves in traditional music, dance, and artistry. One particularly unforgettable experience was witnessing a surprise marriage proposal at the conclusion of a mesmerizing hula performance—an unexpected yet heartwarming moment that highlighted the magic of this place. When it comes to dining, there is truly something for everyone. Whether you're craving a refreshing treat like those offered at Island Vintage Shave Ice or seeking a fine dining experience at Wolfgang's Steakhouse, the Center presents a variety of options to satisfy all tastes. Despite being a bustling destination, the Center is well worth the visit. To make the most of your experience, I recommend checking their website in advance to explore upcoming events and attractions. Conveniently located just steps from Waikiki Beach, this shopping and cultural hub is a must-see for anyone looking to enjoy the best of Hawaii. I look forward to returning to this exceptional destination soon.

Royal Hawaiian Center (2201 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815) is a beautiful and clean shopping center in the heart of Waikiki. It offers a wide variety of shops, from luxury brands like Tory Burch and Fendi to local boutiques, along with plenty of places to buy souvenirs. The food court has many options with good prices, and there are well-known restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory as well as smaller local eateries. The atmosphere is tropical, open, and inviting, with clean washrooms and plenty of space to walk around. It’s a great place to shop, eat, and spend time with family and friends. The reason for four stars instead of five is that most of the escalators were damaged and took far too long to be fixed, which made moving between floors a bit inconvenient. Other than that, the center is well-maintained, clean, and definitely worth visiting when in Waikiki.

Diamond Head is an iconic volcanic peak in Oahu, offering hiking trails and historical military fortifications. Visitors can enjoy dinner cruises near the crater, witnessing breathtaking sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. During winter, passengers may also spot humpback whales on their annual migration. Oahu's lush landscapes and crystal-clear waters make it a cherished destination for travelers seeking unforgettable experiences.
Very easy hike but great views when you get to the top. It has 360-views of the beaches, the city and the ocean itself. It can get crowded up there so you will have to wait for your turn to take photos. I would suggest going for an early session and try to catch the sunrise there!!
Masoud A — Google review
Did this with our 4 year old and found it to be a relatively easy hike. We went through a lot of the tracks so it felt worthwhile. It is easy to get to but I would not say the views are the best, the Makapuʻu Lighthouse trail had better outlooks, but it is still definitely worth doing. Just make sure you book early as reservations are required.
Allen S — Google review
We rolled up for the hike around 7:30 AM on a Saturday, and that was definitely the magic hour because parking was a breeze—tons of spots still open right in the crater. The hike itself is a great morning workout. It’s slightly strenuous but totally manageable. You definitely feel the incline and those famous stairs toward the end are a bit of a quad-burner, but just take your time. Once you get through the tunnel and scramble up to the lookout, the effort is instantly worth it. The payoff at the top is just insane. The panoramic view of Waikiki, the deep blue ocean, and the whole coastline is absolutely breathtaking. It’s the perfect reward for the climb. We were coming back down right as the crowds were really starting to pour in, so seriously, lock in that early-morning slot. It's the best way to start your day on O'ahu!

A moderate but rewarding hike! Make sure to bring plenty of water 💧. The hike takes about 1.5–2.5 hours, and don’t forget—you need to reserve online. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking, totally worth the effort! 🌄⛰️

What an amazing place to go. Get your reservations early and go early in the morning because it does warm up and it will take you a while to walk it if you choose to walk the whole way to the top. It’s amazing part of history and if you’re there have encouraged you to take the time and go.
Dave W — Google review
Diamond Head, known as Lēʻahi in Hawaiian, is one of Oʻahu’s most iconic landmarks and a must-visit for travelers seeking both history and breathtaking views. This volcanic tuff cone, formed over 300,000 years ago, offers a moderately challenging hike that rewards visitors with a sweeping panorama of Honolulu, Waikīkī Beach, and the deep blue Pacific Ocean. The trail is well-maintained but includes steep staircases and a few narrow tunnels, so comfortable shoes and water are essential. Along the way, interpretive signs share the crater’s geological and military history, adding depth to the experience. Photographers will find endless opportunities, from capturing the unique crater walls to sunrise or sunset vistas from the summit. Whether for the exercise, the scenery, or the sense of standing atop one of Hawaii’s most famous natural wonders, Diamond Head is an unforgettable highlight of any trip to Oʻahu. --- To get on top of Diamond Head: Start at the Diamond Head State Monument Entrance Located in Honolulu, about a 10-minute drive from Waikiki. Parking is available for a small fee, but spaces can fill up quickly, so arrive early in the morning. You can also walk or take TheBus from Waikiki if you don’t have a car. Pay the Entrance Fee There’s a modest entrance fee for hikers (separate from vehicle parking). Payment kiosks accept credit cards. Begin the Hike The trail is about 1.3 km (0.8 miles) one way, with a 171 m (560 ft) elevation gain. Expect an uneven dirt path, stairs, and narrow tunnels. Follow the Switchbacks The hike starts gently but becomes steeper as you climb. There are several switchbacks that help manage the elevation gain. Navigate the Stairs and Tunnel Near the top, you’ll face a steep staircase, a 70 m (230 ft) dimly lit tunnel, and another spiral staircase. Reach the Summit Lookout At the top, you’ll find a restored military bunker and panoramic views of Waikiki, the Pacific Ocean, and the island’s coastline. Bring water, sun protection, and a camera — there’s little shade. Descent Go back the way you came, watching your step on the steep sections.
Paul P — Google review
So, a hike, lots of steps, and a rewarding view. Along the way, you will see the spots the military set up for defense, and the lookouts. It's always great to go there and do the hike. However, understand that people are ridiculous, and in today's world, everyone is doing a "photo shoot". Super frustrating as people have no self awareness. Aside from that, the trails are narrow, the tunnel is dark (lit lightly), and it gets hot in the summer. Still an amazing place to see Waikiki. Check it out, and enjoy!!!! Oh yeah, wear appropriate shoes!!! 🤦

Lanikai Beach, which translates to "heavenly sea" in Hawaiian, is a stunning 1/2 mile stretch of pristine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters located on the windward side of Oahu. It is consistently ranked among the best beaches in the world and offers breathtaking views of the Na Mokulua islands. Accessible only by public beach access paths, this residential area beach lacks lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and a public parking lot.
Just never gets old to visit!!! One of the more beautiful beaches to visit and spend some time. Go with patience, as the parking situation is tricky. There is no shade at the beach, and no bathrooms, you are in a neighborhood. But the reward is serenity.

Pearl Harbor is a significant historical site that commemorates the tragic attack by Japanese forces on the Pacific Fleet in 1941, drawing visitors interested in World War II and American military history. The memorial honors over 2,400 Americans who lost their lives during the assault and offers insights into this pivotal moment. While admission to Pearl Harbor Historic Sites is free, some museums on-site require fees.
Visiting Pearl Harbor was an unforgettable and humbling experience. To stand at such a historic site and see the memorials dedicated to those who lost their lives on December 7, 1941, was truly powerful. It was mind-blowing to see the evidence, exhibits, and actual remains of the ships, and to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many men and women who served. The site is well-preserved and presented with great respect, making it both educational and emotional. It’s more than just a tourist attraction it’s a chance to connect with history and honor those who gave everything. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Hawaii. 🇺🇸

There is beautiful movie theatre and museums.

5 Stars – A Powerful and Unforgettable Experience at Pearl Harbor Visiting Pearl Harbor in Hawaii is truly an unforgettable experience and one I highly recommend to anyone coming to Oahu. When we visited, it wasn’t crowded at all, which made it easier to really take in the history and explore the entire area at a comfortable pace. Pearl Harbor is not just a single attraction—it’s a thoughtfully designed historic site with several important memorials and museums that together tell the story of one of the most significant days in American history. The USS Arizona Memorial is incredibly moving, offering a quiet, reflective space to honor those who lost their lives on December 7, 1941. The boat ride to the memorial is smooth and well organized, and the rangers provide helpful insight along the way. Nearby, the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center has excellent exhibits, artifacts, and personal stories that bring the events of that day to life. There’s also the option to visit the Battleship Missouri, where the Japanese surrender was signed, and the USS Bowfin Submarine, which gives a fascinating look into life aboard a WWII submarine. Each part of the site adds a deeper layer of understanding. Overall, Pearl Harbor is a must-see—beautifully maintained, educational, and deeply meaningful. A powerful reminder of our history and absolutely worthy of a 5-star rating.

A dream come true to be able to finally visit! We were able to get tickets at the counter. Main area and museum opens 9:30am, we arrived 10:30am on a Sunday. Everything closes at 5pm. Parking was easy to find as they are 3 small lots adjacent can host ~150 cars, paid $7 for parking with the QR code just before the entrance. Personal bags are not allowed! Bag holding/storage is available, if you insist. We purchased tickets for the USS Missouri ($40; battle ship) and Bowfin ($20; submarine). Mostly self-guided. Bring earphones if you like to use the audio guides. There were ~30 minute tour with guide free on the Missouri. Lots to see but we only had one day. 4 hours at the Missouri + 1 hour lunch + 2 hours at the Bowfin. There are charter bus les that shuttle us to the various exhibits. ~10 minute wait with large covered canopy and benches. Food “trucks” & kiosks available before each entrance (~$15/pp). My parents say it’s improved and expanded quite a bit since their visit in 2000. For history-fanatics, it could easily a 2-day visit to see everything. Of course you can feel the deep history! It’s a memorial. I greatly appreciate that it’s been kept with care and respect. Can’t wait to visit it another time.

Absolutely great. We had a veteran with us who filled us in with lots of Navy stories. Arizona memorial and USS Missouri were great. Sub museum was interesting. For us, the least interesting was the aviation museum.
Patrick S — Google review
Absolutely, staggeringly amazing. There is no way I can put into words this experience. Such mixed feelings. It feels like a tourist place, yet it's so strongly a memorial to its victims. It has been beautifully put together and managed. The museums are wonderful. We went on the Arizona boat trip. The memorial is so very moving. It was an honour to be allowed there. The Bowfin submarine is amazing. To be allowed to have full access to this submarine & understand the history behind it. Literally walking in history! The Missouri ship is staggering. Ensure you go on one of the free guided tours, highly recommended.

My husband is currently in Hawaii for business. However, he had a rare day off and took the opportunity to check out the local sites and the Pearl Harbor national site. It’s very impressive. You definitely can feel the history when you are there. If you are in Hawaii, make a point to spend some time at this memorial and taking a bit of history!

Nestled within the serene Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, the Byodo-In Temple is a stunning replica of a historic Japanese Buddhist temple that transports visitors to Japan without leaving Hawaii. This beautiful site honors the first Japanese immigrants and showcases exquisite gardens, tranquil koi ponds, and breathtaking views of the Ko'olau Mountains. As a non-practicing Buddhist temple, it invites individuals from all walks of life to explore its peaceful grounds for meditation or simply to soak in its cultural beauty.
Absolutely STUNNING location. The temple is situated directly in front of a huge mountain that just really gives it a beautiful presence. The grounds are really lovely and it wasn't overly crowded. Unlike some videos I had seen, parking was very close by. You can buy fish food to feed the fish and they really love that, jumping out of the water for it lol. They also have pure juices for sale. Please keep in mind to remove your shoes before walking up the steps to the temple. The scents wafting out from the temple are beautiful and they have a lantern and incense sticks so that you may light your own, say your prayers, and place it with the rest. Very beautiful experience.
Casey N — Google review
This was a great place to visit! You can purchase food to feed the koi fish, take shoes off to pray in the temple, have some shaved ice, shop at gift store, and walk the grounds! Make sure you take coins to throw into lucky pot at small waterfall. If you put the fish food in hand and extend arm the birds will land and eat. Great photo! Parking can be challenging with construction going on at the main parking lot. We parked along the road. We also got there early.

Great place to visit. It’s a replica of the temple is Japan. The staff are relaxed and friendly. The birds and fishes are friendly. You can buy food from the gift shop to feed the birds or fishes. Many good spots to check out and to take photos. The temple is located in a cemetery so you can also check out many of the grave sites too.
Doua M — Google review
A serene temple set in a lush valley, offering peaceful views and a unique atmosphere. Visitors can feed the koi fish and birds, wander the quiet gardens, and enjoy a calming break from Oahu’s busy spots. A truly memorable stop. Worth the trip. Nice! 7$ pay on gate.
P G — Google review
This gem of a place is so serene. It’s beautiful and worth the $7 entrance fee. Parking is a bit of a beast. The tiny parking lot is under construction so parking is uphill and looping around. Be respectful and follow the road. It is a cemetery after all.
Emily H — Google review
This is a beautiful stop on Oʻahu. It is a smaller-scale, stunning replica of a 950-year-old Japanese temple, situated in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. The scenery around it is amazing. The temple is perfectly situated against the Koʻolau Mountains and surrounded many trees. There is a beautiful pond where you can see a lot of vibrant koi fish. Inside the temple, you’ll find a huge, impressive Buddha statue. There is also a big gong at the entrance which everyone can sound when arriving, so that was very fun to do. Regarding fees, you pay USD 7 per person to enter.

Byodo-In Temple is a truly breathtaking destination! The serene atmosphere, stunning architecture, and beautiful gardens definitely worth seeing. Don't miss the opportunity to ring the bell before entering! We were told it's a way to show respect, mindfulness, and gratitude before entering the temple grounds. I did not explore the gift shop. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a cultural and spiritual experience!

The Aloha Stadium Swap Meet is the largest open-air flea market in Hawaii, featuring over 400 vendors offering a wide range of products. Held on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at the Aloha Stadium, this marketplace showcases an array of items from $1 trinkets to high-quality handmade quilts. Visitors can find everything from clothing and accessories to fine jewelry, vintage antiques, local snacks, and more.
Aloha Stadium Swap Meet Review The best time to visit is right when it opens—it's cooler, less crowded, and much easier to explore. The food trucks are definitely worth trying, offering a tasty break as you shop. If you're looking for souvenirs, this is the place to go—prices are far better than what you’ll find at hotels, resorts, or tourist shops, and the selection of local goods and handmade items is impressive. A quick tip: take your time before making a purchase. Many vendors sell similar products, and walking around a bit could save you money or help you find something even better.
Sead A — Google review
We were unsure about it but are so glad we went! Got there early on Sat AM. We like flea markets and farmer’s markets, so this was right up our alley. It took us several hours to walk the whole thing. Plenty of food options in the middle. The jewelry and clothes are SO much cheaper here than at the beach shops. I bought a shell anklet for $10 at a beach shops, then found the same one here for 5 for $10. I found lovely handmade items and got all my gifts to take back home.
Jennifer C — Google review
The Aloha Stadium Swap Meet is hands down one of my favorite things I did while staying in Oahu! Open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, it’s the perfect spot to pick up affordable souvenirs, try delicious local food, and support a bunch of locally owned businesses all in one place. From handmade jewelry and aloha shirts to fresh fruit, snacks, and unique art, there’s seriously something for everyone. What makes it extra fun is the variety of things you can find while you can spend hours walking around. The prices are way better than what you’ll find in most tourist shops, and a lot of the vendors are local families or small businesses, which makes shopping here feel even more meaningful. Plus, the food is so good! I grabbed some fresh pineapple, local snacks, and even tried a few plate lunches that were super tasty. If you’re visiting Oahu and want a mix of culture, shopping, and good eats without spending a fortune, the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet is a must-do. Just bring some cash, wear comfy shoes maybe an umbrella, and enjoy the laid-back vibe!
Ms S — Google review
The ticket is $2 per person, and this is a place to get cheap souvenirs. I shop here like crazy! the downside is only one food and drink in section 5 so the day I went to stadium was a hot day and I the direction I took was away from food and drink section, so I was tired and thirsty and had long walk back to buy a drink then walk back to shop me at the area that I had left. The second thing is restroom is at the stadium, so it is long walk to go to restroom either. Even lots of tent you can pay card, but cash is the king when it comes to shopping in a marketplace like this. They aren't open every day so you must check day and time they have the market.
Melissa N — Google review
The market is just okayThey have a lot of different stores. Some of them are selling the same things though. It is very hot. Make sure to bring a hat. Make sure to have cash They have $2 entry cash only. There is parking but you might have to drive around a lot
Melzy P — Google review
So many different vendors! We were limited in time but managed to find all the items on our list. Some vendors are more willing to negotiate than others. Definitely recommend 3+ hours for this to eat, drink, and shop.
Holly W — Google review
Great tourist place to find souvenirs for a decent price. We went on a Wednesday at 11am and it wasn't too busy. There were way more vendors than I was expecting!

We went on a Saturday morning it's $2 per person I believe it's also Sundays and wednesdays. There is lots of parking but it gets very full and I would go first thing in the morning cuz it gets very hot. Lots of vendors many of them selling a lot of the similar things definitely can barter

The Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA) is home to an extensive collection of over 50,000 works, housed in a remarkable building featuring a gift shop and cafe. The museum recently hosted the Garden Club of Honolulu Oceans: Beyond the Reef show and the annual Conservation Study Conference, which focused on protecting Island Earth through a bio-cultural approach that combines ancient Hawaiian practices with modern science.
It's a wonderful museum to visit! Their collection is impressive and pretty diverse compared to other museums I've been to. A great place to spend the day and enjoy the visuals. The staff is very friendly, and the cafe in the courtyard is a great place to get some work done.

Although this museum may not be as large as some others, it offers a thoughtfully curated experience that is both rich and rewarding. The combination of modern and contemporary art exhibitions allows visitors to gain meaningful insights, especially for those with a genuine interest in the arts. Every corner invites you to slow down and truly appreciate the beauty and depth of the works on display. And don’t miss the café — it’s a hidden gem! Whether you're looking to relax after the exhibition or simply enjoy a peaceful moment, the cozy atmosphere and well-crafted drinks make it well worth the visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking inspiration and a fresh perspective.

I am not necessarily a fan of arts but i have to say this museum was really cool to see. You can enter it for free if you are staying in selected honolulu hotels. Staff at the place is super friendly! No lines.
M Z — Google review
It doesn’t have as many pieces of Hawaiian art (more photos) compared with pieces from other parts of the world. The descriptions are also quite sparse. However, the building is well maintained and many of the pieces are in great shape. The gardens and rest areas are beautiful. It’s free once a month for locals and there are discounts for military, some hotels, and locals. There’s really no theme. Everything is arranged by location of origin. Even has some famous artists like picssso, Monet, cezaanne. Well worth a visit on a rainy day.
Owen — Google review
I wish I could have spent all day here. I actually enjoyed it more than the MoMA! Uncrowded, you could get up close to each painting and spend as long as you wanted admiring each brush stroke. Loved the couple of Georgia O'Keeffe paintings. It's truly a multi-cultural collection, I was blown away by the Asian galleries, and I admire how each statue was given enough room to breathe. Nothing feels over-crowded, so each one has time to sink in. Loved the temporary collections, the photographs, the Japanese prints, the Mediterranean courtyard, and the live music on Friday night. If I ever come back to Hawaii I'll be sure to visit again!

This was a great museum lots of exhibits in a small building multiple separate rooms with artifacts and other historic items from the years of just 200 to all the way at the 20th century, there was a lot of interesting artwork and history in display here which they all have a description under it

I loved it! I came a little later in the afternoon and it felt intimate. There's so much to do. I would set aside 3 to 4 hours to look at everything. The moment I walked in the customer service was impeccable! I finished off with dinner in the cafe. Had the most amazing mahi-mahi sandwich I've ever had in my life! It was fresh and my waitress was accommodating! I was starstruck at the Monet painting and being a Haitian woman, I was so happy to see some representation in the art as well. I was so blessed to come here.

Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden – A Peaceful Paradise on Oʻahu Our visit to Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden was the perfect way to slow down and immerse ourselves in Oʻahu’s lush beauty. 🌿 A Scenic Arrival The drive to the garden takes you through a charming residential area, and as soon as you reach the entrance, the scenery opens into something spectacular. We stopped at the park office, where one of the staff kindly explained the importance of this and other parks in the area—sharing insight that made our visit even more meaningful. 🥾 Exploring the Trails The garden offers many trails to wander, and we happily spent hours exploring them. This is not your typical Botanical Garden. It's more like a drive, stop, and view overlook experience. The variety of plants is mind blowing. They have vegetation from all over the world. The Mountains and Foliage is lush and green. The park is free which is great. I would have been happy to pay a few bucks to support better signage and pedestrian pathways. It's definitely worth a visit.

100% must do when you visit the island. I took the bus from Waikiki to the gardens. Not too bad of a bus ride and I highly recommend going early in the morning. After walking through a beautiful neighbored you arrive at the gates of the garden. Lush greenery with amazing mountain tops and oversized ancient trees. Breathtaking! Once you arrive to the visitor areas, you can view some fun facts and make your way to the lake. Another jaw dropping moment. Ducks, birds, the VIEW......... sit on the bench to take it all in. It's absolutely beautiful. I can't believe you pay nothing to enter. I would go back 100 times.

Beautiful free public gardens on the far side of the mountains away from Waikiki. We had a rental car so it was an easy half hour drive. I agree with the recommendations to drive all the way to the end first look around and then work your way back be sure and allow time to stop at the visitor center and get oriented and have a view of the lake and learn more about all the different plants you’ve seen their website has a great detailed map as well. That’s good to preview if you want to see a specific area or species.

The Arizona Memorial, part of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii, is a significant tourist destination, attracting thousands of visitors daily. It honors the 1,664 crewmen who lost their lives during the attack on Oahu in 1941. The memorial includes several sites such as the USS Arizona Memorial, which sits above the sunken battleship and serves as the resting place for over a thousand sailors and Marines.
Powerful, memorable, historical, meaningful. All those poor young lives. History is so brutal Leave your purse in the car if you can. It’s $7 to leave your bag at the front. If it’s clear it’s okay. Even small fanny packs not allowed. We just walked in and didn’t reserve for reservations. This part was free to sign up to wait for the ferry to USS ARIZONA. We waited for a little over an hour for our que to go to the memorial. While we waited, We paid to see the submarine inside. $48 for two adults one child. When our number was up the ride was somewhat calming . The memorial is in great condition . The ship.. well It’s crazy how you can still see the mast after 80+ years! Scary

The pearl harbor location was a great place to learn about the history and conflict during the past wars. Highly recommend visiting this place as the facilities are very nice and you get to see a lot about the history.

Visiting Pearl Harbor is an emotional and deeply moving experience that every American should have at least once. The site is beautifully preserved and serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and history that shaped our nation. The USS Arizona Memorial is both haunting and humbling, offering a quiet moment to reflect and pay respect to the lives lost on December 7, 1941. The exhibits and museums are incredibly well done — informative, detailed, and full of authentic artifacts that bring history to life. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and respectful, ensuring the experience is both educational and heartfelt. The audio tour is highly recommended, as it gives a deeper understanding of the events and personal stories tied to that day. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the weight of history — but also the strength of resilience and unity. Pearl Harbor isn’t just a tourist stop; it’s a place of remembrance and gratitude. If you’re visiting Oahu, make this a priority. It’s a profound reminder of our past and a tribute to those who gave everything for our future.

This was a massive tick of the list of things to see in Hawaii. The memorial is very respectful of those who lost their lives. The 23 minute movie is a must to see to truly understand the history of this place. Please dont skip visiting this site it will make you stop and think about a time when the world was at war. I pray we never see this happen again. Peace

It is said that this is the most visited place in Hawaii. It is the final resting place for 1,177 sailors and Marines who died on that fateful day of December 7, 1941. This solemn, poignant and peaceful place can evoke emotions in even the most unshakable of us. The memorial is constructed in a most respectful way. The wreck is still leaking oil, quite visible from the memorial. These are called the "black tears". The tours of the monument are well organized, even with large crowds. I'll never forget this "bucket list" visit.
Dan T — Google review
A memorial to honor the navy soldiers and marines who lost their lives during the 1941 Pearl Harbor. The memorial has documented history of the destroyed battleship through plaques, signboards, and posters. Here you can see the remains of the ship above the water, as well as under the water. There is also a rectangular opening inside the memorial to view remains of the ship submerged in water. At the end there is a large wall where names of all the soldiers who were on board at that time. To arrive at this memorial you need to take the ferry from the main terminal site. The captains on the ferry are navy personnel, the one on the way back was very nice and gave a lot more information in a fun manner and due to availability of time also got us some very good and historically significant shots of the Memorial and the ship behind it. It’s a short 5 minute navy boat ride. Once at the memorial you have to keep right to let the existing people leave and board the same ferry going back.

Discover the wonders of the ocean floor in Hawaii with a tour on Atlantis Submarines Waikiki. This experience offers access to hidden marine areas not easily reachable otherwise. Atlantis Adventures is renowned for providing top tourist attractions in Hawaii, including the captivating Atlantis Submarines and Atlantis Navatek Cruises.
Amazing experience! So informative and so neat to see the ocean floor! You ride a charter boat, which has amazing views of Honolulu and Diamond Head, before arriving at the submarine. The submarine goes around sites that Atlantis set up as fish sanctuaries on the ocean floor so there's tons of fish and wild life to see! Highly recommend!

The Atlantis Submarine tour was an excellent experience! It’s not every day that you get to ride in a real submarine, so I consider it something truly special. We saw so many colorful fish, turtles, and even sharks. While the camera doesn’t capture everything clearly, in person it’s so much better. The shipwrecks and sunken planes really surprised me, and the whole atmosphere was unforgettable. The crew was excellent—very friendly and professional. I definitely recommend it!
Diana H — Google review
Such a dope experience! We saw several sharks, some eagles rays, giant trevally, and tons of butterfly fish. Good duration and felt very safe. Also comfy and plenty of space inside the sub. The massive windows make it so easy to see and enjoy the views! Totally worth the money!
Theo B — Google review
The tour was really good. We saw some amazing marine life and the staff on the submarine were very polite and professional. I only have one complaint, the guy that took our picture when we walked over to the pier was very rude. After the tour was over, I asked him if I can see the picture package, that he had took earlier. He let me look at it for two seconds and put it away. Then I asked him, how much it costs and he looked at me and said it costs a lot in a very condescending tone insinuating I can’t afford it. He then proceeded to do the same thing to a couple behind me. Therefore due to the very rude service from the camera man I am giving it a 1 star.

WOWWW ! This was my favorite experience in Honolulu for sure ! So interesting and wonderful, under the sea was incredible, so many species of fish, historic boats down there, our guide was really cool, funny with knowledge. HIGHLY recommend !

Atlantis Submarines does an excellent job of making things enjoyable for families of any size. The Waikiki tour is interesting, as a majority of it goes by man made structures trying to create reefs. On a lucky day, like we had, there were tons of animals that might be rare during other dives. In all, we saw two sharks, four spotted eagle rays, two turtles, and some dolphins. The dive guide made everything great with personal experiences and jokes for every minute that we were under the surface.
Kona C — Google review
Our experience with Atlantis Submarine in Waikiki back in November 2022 was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment we boarded the submarine, we were filled with excitement about exploring the underwater world of Hawaii. The crew was professional and friendly, providing us with a detailed briefing about what to expect during our dive. The submarine itself was spacious and comfortable, with large windows that offered incredible views of the marine life around us. As we descended into the depths, we were amazed by the vibrant colors of the coral reefs and the variety of fish swimming gracefully by. A particularly thrilling aspect of the dive was witnessing several shipwrecks lying on the ocean floor. The sight of these submerged vessels added a sense of adventure and history to our underwater journey. We also spotted some fascinating sea creatures, including turtles and rays, which made the experience even more exciting. The commentary provided by the crew was informative and engaging, enhancing our appreciation of the unique ecosystem and the stories behind the shipwrecks. Overall, the Atlantis Submarine experience in Waikiki was a highlight of our trip. It’s a must-do activity for anyone visiting the island, especially if you’re interested in marine life and want a unique perspective of the underwater world. I highly recommend it!

Kailua Beach is a stunning Hawaiian destination known for its tranquil turquoise waters and soft, white sandy shores. Spanning 3 miles along a crescent-shaped coastline, the beach is adorned with shady ironwood trees and offers breathtaking views of offshore islands in the distance. Despite its acclaim as one of the best beaches in Hawaii, Kailua Beach remains relatively uncrowded compared to its popular neighbor, Lanikai Beach.
I’ve been coming here on and off for the past 41 years. It’s one of the nicest beaches on Oahu and on the planet really. The north end of the beach is a lot less crowded because most of the access is gated at the end of the neighborhood streets. Best access is through Kailua Beach park, where there is plenty of parking and restroom facilities. The water is nice year-round and great for boogie boarding and body surfing as well as swimming. Great for long walks and family time alike. The Portuguese man o’ wars do come out in certain months more than others… That you’ll have to discover on your own. Enjoy some pictures of paradise!

Really beautiful place for a rather quick hike. The summit is GORGEOUS and you can see so much of the island from up there. I did see two people being air-lifted out and many many more struggling (people I passed on the way up still had not made it near the top when I was heading back down). So please be mindful and aware and ask yourself are you fit enough to do this hike. Watch a YouTube video before you come. This happens far too often and it's really sheer negligence on the tourists part. I saw people with dress shoes and nice outfits. This is not the time nor place to look cute. Come prepared. I wore hiking boots but you'd be fine with sneakers. Bring sunscreen and water. They do have a food truck onsite with snacks. This is also a nice moped ride from Waikiki. Keep in mind you MUST make reservations and pay online for entry. You may not pay once you enter the park. You will have a reserved time slot that you can enter and they will tell you when you must be out of the park.

Great run of you start at Waikiki Beach, about 8 miles round trip. Running the last part of Diamond Peak is challenging, going up the steps. You’ll have to walk portions of the trail to the peak as there are lots of people in line hiking it, but you’ll get a chance to pass and keep running. Amazing views around the island from the top!
Harry R — Google review
It was not an easy hike, but the views at the end are amazing! Make a reservation online FOR SURE and pay for your entrance and parking ahead. Last time, we didn't do this and we're turned away. The guy at the gate said we could only stay for the 2 allotted hours, but the only way I would get out on time was by helicopter/flight for life. Nobody was checking anyway. Bring plenty of water and a hat. Make sure you have really good shoes, because the trail is steep and uneven in many spots. Sooo many stairs! When you get through the tunnel, go to the left. Less stairs, better views. Everything hurts, but worth it!

i’m not a hiker but i do travel around the world a lot and walk a lot and had to hike a few times but man going up was strenuous. maybe had to be because i was dehydrated and didn’t eat anything for breakfast. i had to take quite a few breaks because i was feeling nauseous. i’m glad i did it because it forced me to keep going and that’s what life is about. to keep going and pushing thru the hard things. the view at the top was amazing and worth it. the walk back down is 100x easier. bring water and try not to go mid day or the sun will be beating on u the whole time. i took a bus here from waikiki and it drops you off at the bottom. you have to walk up and thru the tunnel to reach the ticket booth. buy your tickets online early because slots do tend to sell out. it was 6.15 after fees online.

A spectacular place to hike at sunrise (make reservations early), the hike is short but steep, be prepared in your fitness level with water and electrolytes. And be prepared for crowds, but folks are good about sharing the trail. I caught a taxi up to the entrance, but walked back to the beach after, about 3 miles downhill from the summit.
Katie H — Google review
Wow! It's a hike to get to the top, but achievable. Just be ready for narrow pathways and a somewhat claustrophobic tunnel, but relax its just a short distance and adds character to the hike. Once up you can see all around and even go into the military pill box located ocean-side top. Just take your time and go at your pace and you'll be up before you know it. 🤙
Jonathon R — Google review
Diamond Head is an absolute must-do hike when visiting Hawaii! The trail itself is relatively short in distance, but don’t be fooled—it does get steep and challenging in sections, especially near the end where stairs and narrow pathways lead you up to the summit. The effort, however, is more than worth it. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Waikiki, Honolulu, and the endless blue Pacific Ocean. On a clear day, you can see for miles in every direction, making it the perfect spot for photos and simply soaking in the beauty of the island. I recommend going early in the morning, not only to avoid the midday heat but also to beat the crowds, since this is one of Oahu’s most popular attractions. Bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and take your time—the trail is well-maintained but can be uneven in spots. The hike is doable for most fitness levels, and the sense of accomplishment at the summit is incredible. Diamond Head perfectly combines a bit of exercise, history, and world-class scenery, making it a highlight of any trip to Hawaii.
Thomas G — Google review
The total walk is just under 2 miles and the trail is generally well maintained. As you get close to the top you need to be able to climb quite a few stairs. It is recommended to you go early in the morning. The views from the top are great.

Manoa Falls is a renowned 150-foot waterfall located in the Manoa Valley, just a short drive from downtown Honolulu and Waikiki. The trail to the falls winds through a lush rainforest, offering stunning tropical vegetation and an arboretum. This popular hike is accessible to hikers of all ages and experience levels, making it perfect for families. The well-kept trail spans less than two miles round trip, providing an easy stroll through the picturesque Manoa Valley.
Definitely glad I brought hiking shoes possible without but slippery. The accent was tolerable maybe work if out of shape or little kids. Beautiful scenery and definitely one of my favorite waterfalls in Hawaii so far. Nice little swimming hole and places to rest. Fun family hike be patient as the forest keeps the trail wet.

The falls were a bit dry today since there hasn't been much rain but still worth the treck. The whole trail of rain forest is beautiful and and full of native flora and fauna. My mom has arthritis in her knees so it was kind of tough for her to go up through the trails since there are steep steps, slippery muddy trail and uneven rocks but totally worth it!
Roselyne F — Google review
Manoa Falls is a breathtaking destination and a must-see for anyone visiting Oahu. The trail offers a relatively easy hike that meanders through a lush, tropical rainforest, reminiscent of a scene from a movie. As you walk, you'll be surrounded by stunning scenery, including towering bamboo groves that sway gently in the breeze, enormous ferns that create a lush canopy, and vibrant green foliage that seems to envelop you from every angle. The trail is well-maintained and accessible for most hikers, making it suitable for families and individuals of varying fitness levels. However, do be prepared for muddy sections, especially after rainfall, so it's important to wear sturdy, comfortable shoes to navigate the terrain safely. As you approach the waterfall, the anticipation builds, and when you finally catch sight of it, it truly delivers. Manoa Falls cascades down nearly 150 feet into a tranquil pool below, creating a serene oasis that invites you to pause and soak in the beauty of nature. The gentle sound of the water, coupled with the fragrant air filled with the scents of wet earth and tropical plants, adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or simply looking for a picturesque escape close to Honolulu, Manoa Falls promises an unforgettable experience that will leave you in awe of Hawaii's natural beauty.

Everybody told us what an amazing place this was and to be honest with you. It was just average. If you wanna go for a muddy hike only to find out that the pool at the bottom of the waterfall is not allowed to swim in this is your place. Having said that it is a gorgeous hike if that’s what you’re looking for.
Darryl S — Google review
Manoa Falls is absolutely stunning and a must see if you’re visiting Oahu. The hike is relatively easy and winds through a lush tropical rainforest that feels like something out of a movie. The scenery is breathtaking from towering bamboo groves to huge ferns and vibrant green foliage everywhere you look. The trail is well maintained and accessible for most people though it can get muddy so wear good shoes. The waterfall at the end is the real payoff cascading down nearly 150 feet into a serene pool. It’s peaceful refreshing and totally worth the walk. Whether you’re a nature lover or just looking for a great adventure close to Honolulu this place is unforgettable

The Hike was challenging for me and I almost quit. Two beautiful soul ladies gave me the motivation to keep going. The fall was beautiful and the water while it was cold it was refreshing ♥️
Adrienne W — Google review
Really lovely hike. Because it’s an easy one it’s quite busy. You need sturdy shoes as there are rocks, mud and puddles and try to find good mosquitoe repellent. Mine didn’t work and got bitten all over. Have water too, it’s pretty toasty and humid on the trail. Parking was half price for us due to being military.
Adriana Y — Google review
Beautiful hike! There is a paid parking lot at the entrance, and I recommend bringing mosquito repellent — you’ll need it! The trail goes uphill and can get quite muddy, so wear proper shoes. Some rocks along the way are slippery, so be cautious. At the end, you’ll reach a gorgeous waterfall. There is a sign warning not to approach too closely as it can be dangerous — but many people do get closer to enjoy the view. Overall, a great hike surrounded by lush Hawaiian vegetation, mostly shaded, making it perfect for a hot day. Would definitely recommend!

Ala Moana Regional Park is a 100-acre park featuring a man-made beach with calm surf, tennis courts, and a pavilion. Situated across from the Ala Moana Shopping Center, it offers an alternative to Waikiki Beach with its grassy areas, shady tree zones, and white sandy beaches. The shallow water area is protected by a reef barrier and provides opportunities for snorkeling along the submerged rocks. The park is easily accessible in Honolulu with ample parking and good amenities.
The sunsets here are gorgeous. There are always beautiful people in the park doing some beautiful things like “bubbly therapy” or “dancing as the sun sets”. It’s a great place to run and place for kids. Locals are always around and it makes it an integrative experience. I did Tai Chai one morning. The view of Diamond Head is sweet and the hotel strip. It’s a pretty chill beach and wonderful place to just hang and have some fun in the sun or after sunset.
Darron J — Google review
Our main purpose when we came here was to watch the Friday fireworks. This park is big and has nice views of the city. It’s also a great place to relax, hang out, read a book and walking or jogging It’s a great place for kids to play in the playground or run around. It’s has plenty of parking too and it’s also free but keep in mind that it gets busy during special events like the fireworks. Best to get there early. I recommend bringing picnic blankets and chair if you’re going to hang out for a bit. We were there a couple of hours before the fireworks mainly to get a good spot and get a good view. We brought some food and enjoyed an early dinner. Overall a nice park however just be aware of your surroundings as we’ve seen people with carts and tents on the other side. The public washroom wasn’t as great either, not well maintained but I guess it’s just like any other public park.

Ala Moana Beach Park is a pretty big and convenient spot right in the heart of Honolulu. One of the best things about it is the location — it’s directly across the street from Ala Moana Center, so it’s super easy to grab something to eat, do a little shopping, and then head over to the beach to relax. I really enjoy picking up takeout from the mall and eating by the water while watching the sunset. The views are beautiful, and the water is calm and nice for swimming or just floating around. However, the beach itself isn’t perfect. The sand is a bit rough and not as soft as some of the other beaches on the island, and there are quite a few rocks when you go into the water, so you might want to wear water shoes. The park area is large and has plenty of space to walk, jog, or picnic, but it’s also known for having quite a few homeless people around. Most keep to themselves, but it can make the area feel a little uncomfortable, especially if you’re by yourself. I definitely wouldn’t recommend coming here alone at night. Overall, Ala Moana Beach Park is great for its convenience, accessibility, and sunset views, but it’s not the most peaceful or pristine beach on Oahu. Perfect for a quick dip or a lunch break by the water, but not necessarily a place I’d spend the whole day
Life R — Google review
Its a beautiful and large park with public access to the beach tough. There are enough slots to park , many people walking, surfing or just sharing a barbeque on the large extension of grass with many big trees shadowing. I was in the second week of June and the only "but" was the incredible amount of flies around.
ALFRED C — Google review
I feel like this is a hidden gem in Oahu. The view is so beautiful here and the park was mostly empty when we went. We didn't go far into the park so we can't attest to the quality of the beach. But the grassy area was gorgeous enough.

Memorial Day, Shinnyo-En lantern floating Hawaii 2025. I just wanted to give you all a couple of tips, hope it helps. *There is a separate line for military members which is MUCH shorter. *Bring a beach chair or towel to sit on while you wait for your lantern. *Bring an umbrella or hat for sun protection, sun block, and water. * There is parking at Ala Moana center. * Bring a lighter, the grill ones work best to light the lantern. We pick up our lantern, take it home to write our messages and then come back for the ceremony. Some people prefer to stay all day and enjoy the beach park 🏖🌴

One of my favorite places to be on the island. It is such a beautiful and lively park, great for taking pictures, walking, picknicking, sports,,, everything. Waiola Shave Ice is a popular local spot in Honolulu known for its counter-serve shave ice and ice cream. The quaint grocery store offers a variety of shave ice flavors, including classic options and new creations. One must-try is the Azuki Bowl, featuring shave ice topped with azuki beans, condensed milk, and mochi balls. This small snack shop off the side of the road exudes a definite local vibe and is frequented by both locals and visitors alike.
While looking for a construction job-site, I found this shaved ice cream place. It is a small building, but the shaved ice is some of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve had Matsumoto, but upon trying this one, it has become my favorite. If you are a local, or a visitor, you must try this place, you won’t be disappointed.
Fernando P — Google review
Waiola Shave Ice is a classic spot with super smooth, finely shaved ice and tons of fun flavor options. It’s a great treat on a hot day and definitely a must-try in Honolulu! That said, the syrups can be really sweet — I’d recommend asking for “less syrup” or “less sweet” if you’re not into super sugary desserts. Still delicious, just a bit intense if you’re watching your sugar intake.
Sardor A — Google review
The reviews aren’t exaggerating; when they say it’s soft, they mean SOFT! The ice literally melts the second it hits your tongue. The only downside is you have to enjoy it quickly on a hot day, or it’ll melt into a slushy puddle. The syrup was evenly spread, with no bland ice spots. Very delicious, and there are plenty of benches outside for seating!

I have already tried the Waiola Shave Ice in Kaimuki, and today I am trying out this one in McCully. I got the Waiola Rainbow Jumbo and it was great. The workers are very friendly and helpful and this place is busy with so many people coming by regularly. This is a great spot.

Came here after watching the Mark Weins Honolulu food tour video and it did not disappoint. Got condensed milk on some fruit flavors as well as the azumi bowl and both were very refreshing with well balanced flavors. There is also a small store selling their merchandise.

When you think of Hawaii, shave ice comes to mind! You can enjoy it at many spots, but so far this place is the best. The ice is incredibly fluffy, and the azuki beans, condensed milk, and mochi are all amazing! Definitely a must-try. Although it’s “kakigori” brought from Japan, the shop is run by a family from Taiwan.

We decided we needed shave ice after our long day. They have a lot of options to choose from with the syrups and toppings, so I believe there's something for the whole family. We ordered the Obama Ice and I suddenly understood why everyone loved it. It was very refreshing and affordable for a family to enjoy. They had some outdoor seating and one of those machines that you put coins in to make a coin to keep with whatever design you want. They were very fast getting our order out and pleasant. I wish we went again.

Honestly, I'm leaving very disappointed in this place. I have a 17-month-old baby with allergies, so I have to pack her snacks when we go out. We went to the cafeteria, sat down, and a lady told us that if we didn't buy anything from there, we had to sit outside. It's summer time and it's hot outside; the cafeteria was nearly empty, with about five empty tables. I understand that you want us to buy from you, but this is rude and mistreatment. Honestly, I don't think I'll go back to this place or recommend it.

The Diamond Head Crater Trailhead is a must-visit for anyone exploring Honolulu. This iconic hiking destination, set within an extinct volcano, offers a 1.6-mile round trip journey that leads adventurers to stunning panoramic views of both the vibrant cityscape and the vast Pacific Ocean. While the trail can be moderately challenging due to its steep stairs and narrow tunnels, every step is worth it for the breathtaking lookout points along the way.
This was a really great hike! The path itself it’s not that bad until you reach the stairs to get to the top where the lookouts are located (there’s a lot of stairs, so be prepared!). I did not realize I had been inside the volcano crater all along until I reached the top of the hiking path, which I thought it was so amazing and it was incredible to see that the crater itself it’s huge. Be aware that the hiking path does get crowded and depending on the time of the day it can also get really hot. I would recommend doing this hike early in the morning as it would be cooler and probably less crowded. The views at the top are completely worth it. Bring lots of water!!!!!! Also get your tickets in advance as you will not be allowed to hike without it. It’s was easy to get tickets and they were only $5 per person, without paying for parking as I did not have a car. I did order them 30 days prior to coming here as they go really fast!
Claudia D — Google review
A must do trail while in Honolulu as the peak provides unmatched vista viewpoints you will not get anywhere else in Honolulu. This park has various rules that are fully enforced. The approach to the park is unique through a one-way traffic tunnel. The parking fee is included in the ticket and is $10 per vehicle, and entry in park is $5 per person. The trail is categorized as moderate and is more in the easier side. The trail starts off from the visitor center as a paved path, which converts into more rugged dusty trail. Still very easy to grip and walk on. At the end of the trail there are one set of stairs to go up, followed by a tunnel, and then two options are either 99 steep stair steps or a loop. The stairs end up at a spiral staircase which then leads out to vista point. There are still more steps to climb on the watch point. The round trip is probably two miles. The park has a lot of rules and restrictions. You can only buy a timed ticket in advance, and you must arrive within the first thirty minute of your timed zone or they will not allow you entry, please be careful they do turn back people. Similarly the park closes at 6 PM so they need you and your vehicle to be out of the park otherwise you will be locked in and only way out will be through a hefty fine and police involvement. The park rules are really strict and are strictly enforced so please follow the rules as listed on their website. There are public restrooms right behind the visitor center, along with two hydration stations.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii! I loved this hike and everything about it. I brought my family, which consisted of two (2) children under 5. The walkway uphill is very kid-friendly and everyone along the trail was very supportive. There are numerous stopping points for breaks, pictures, etc. Once you reach the summit, it is very busy! There was a huge crowd when we reached the top and there was no room to move around. We got our pictures and made our way down. Some of the best pictures are along the hike. I recommend reserving a parking place in advance because when we left, there was no parking available and there was a line waiting to get in. Overall, we would do this again and this should definitely be on the to-do list for anyone!

Make sure to go online and book ahead $5. I chose the 4pm hike and definitely a great time to go as this hike is not shaded. I took the bus from Waikiki down, super easy bus ride. It’s kinda a long walk from the bus stop to the park but warms up the glutes and the views are spectacular. Once you enter you show your QR code. From top to bottom I finished in about an hour. Many lookout spots along the way and for me rest spots because I was out of breath. From the lighthouse to the endless ocean views it just never is enough. I would definitely do this again on my next visit to the islands. 🌺

Great place to hike! But you need to be in shape because it’s a little bit of going up and coming back on rocks and stairs. We rode bikes until the entrance and it was great. The scene and views great and many birds and other animals to see on the trails.

Diamond Head Trailhead – A Must-Do for Couples in Honolulu Hiking the Diamond Head Trail was one of the most memorable experiences my partner and I had in Honolulu. From the moment we started the climb, we were surrounded by the stunning volcanic landscape and ocean views that seemed to open up more and more with every step. The trail is the perfect mix of adventure and accessibility — just challenging enough to feel rewarding, but still enjoyable to take at your own pace. Reaching the summit together was unforgettable. The panoramic views are absolutely breathtaking: the endless blue ocean, the curve of Waikiki, and the lush island scenery stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s the kind of moment where you look at each other, smile, and realize you’re sharing something truly special. No photo could capture how incredible it feels to stand up there with someone you love. If you’re visiting Honolulu as a couple, Diamond Head is a must-do. It’s romantic, adventurous, and offers some of the most stunning views in Hawaii. An experience you’ll talk about long after the trip is over.

Way too many people. Good views but the line to get to the views at the top takes a half hour. It's pretty rocky trail because basically this is a big lava rock. Pretty neat tunnels and some military lookouts and stairs. Near the top you have a choice of routes to complete the final segment: wind around or straight up via 99 stairs. My recommendation is to take the 99 stairs! It's not that bad and you will avoid a long line at the top. Plus, you will get to ascend a cool spiral staircase. Basically probably the most appealing part of this hike is to descend the spiral staircase that is part of the military installation at the top, appealing in part because there's almost nobody in there. Go at 6:00 a.m., Uber up there, and the temperature will probably be mild. Don't go in the middle of the day when it is scorching hot because there's not really much shade and the rock will radiate heat.
Tom J — Google review
The hike is actually easier than you'd think. My husband and I are pretty out of shape. My husband is also 69 years old with some back and hip issues. And we still made it to the top without being completely out of breath. Just go very slow and take breaks. You also need to make reservation and they let you make reservation a month in advance. Make reservation early because all the coveted earlier times will be gone quickly. I'd recommend getting the 6am or 7am spots. We got the 8am spot and it was already starting to get really warm midway and we wished we had started earlier. Bring lots of water, we brought 32oz of water between the 2 of us and we completely finished it at the end, so bring more if you can. Go to the bathroom by the visitor center, because that will be your last chance, there's no bathroom or port-a-potty on the trail. But even if you drink a lot of water, you'll sweat them all out, so I don't think you'd even need to worry about going to the bathroom. Also no trash can along the way, so expect to pack all your trash back down with you. It can be hard work but the view at the top is completely worth it.

Mānoa Falls Trail is a popular rainforest trail located just a short drive from Waikiki. This picturesque 1.6-mile hike leads to the stunning 150-foot Mānoa Falls, which has been featured in movies like Jurassic Park and Lost due to its lush green backdrop. The trail offers an easy and kid-friendly trek through native Hawaiian plants and bamboo forests, making it a favorite for visitors looking for beautiful photo opportunities.
To check off a must-do adventure in Honolulu, my wife and I planned a morning hike on the Manoa Falls Trail, and it was such a treat! We researched this one well in advance, wanting an easy, fun hike that would let us soak in Hawaii’s stunning nature. Just a quick 20-minute Uber ride from our Waikiki hotel, the trail was super easy to find, with clear signs pointing us toward the waterfall. The round trip is under 2 miles, but heads-up—it can get a bit slippery and wet, especially since it rains often. Luckily, we had dry weather, which made the trek even more enjoyable. The hike itself was a total delight, winding through a lush forest with towering trees, vibrant native flowers, and plants that made us feel completely immersed in Hawaii’s natural beauty. Every step felt like a little escape into paradise, with greenery all around and the fresh scent of the forest. The payoff at the end was the Manoa Falls, Hawaii’s tallest waterfall, and it was absolutely worth it—just breathtaking! We spent some time taking it all in before heading back, snapping photos and savoring the peaceful vibe. This was the perfect morning adventure, leaving us plenty of time to relax at Waikiki Beach for the rest of the day. Our tip: skip renting a car and just take an Uber to the trailhead—it’s hassle-free and super convenient. The Manoa Falls Trail was everything we hoped for—simple, scenic, and a beautiful way to connect with Hawaii’s natural charm. Big thanks to this trail for making our trip extra special!

Flora, Fauna and Views The trail is distinguished by an impressive biodiversity, which delights visitors with a wide variety of plants and wildlife. Although the waterfall had no water during my visit, the panoramic views that are revealed along the way are spectacular and undoubtedly compensate for the absence of water, making the tour totally worth it. The Rise and the Adventure I decided to venture higher, a 25-minute stretch that is characterized by a dense presence of bamboo and roots that cover the road. This section of the trail offers an additional challenge and a feeling of total immersion in the forest. I chose to return because of the time, but the experience of exploring this higher part was very rewarding. Conclusion In summary, the trail is an excellent choice for nature lovers. It combines an accessible walk with stunning views and the opportunity to explore a rich biodiversity. It is a place that I would definitely visit again to complete the tour.

Absolutely STUNNING walk to the "falls". You must understand, unless you go during rainy season, you're lucky if you see a steady stream. When I went, there was barely a trickle. However, don't discount the trek there. It is absolutely beautiful. I would highly suggest wearing taller socks and hiking boots as this trail is quite muddy. Beautiful photo opportunities all around.

A beautiful, easy, one-hour round trip hike with beautiful natural surroundings. It only drizzle a little, but it was enough to make the route a little muddy, so you should walk carefully on some steep areas along the trail. While the hike itself is great, we were unlucky on this visit as the waterfall was nearly dry. Probably going after a recent rain will be the best chance to see the falls at its fullest.
Bruno D — Google review
Gorgeous place. But when we went at the end of September the waterfall was very tiny. The saddest waterfall I’ve seen. Hike was easy - moderate intensity. Moderate due to slippery conditions but most people will find it easy. No swimming allowed due to bacteria unfortunately, can’t even approach the waterfall. During the hike you see signs to another harder trail, which I didn’t do.
Olesia P — Google review
Nice trail to hike on. There were lots of other hikers on the trail too. Many resting spots for taking break. It was humid making the hike harder than it should be but still a nice hike. Dress appropriately and be prepared to sweat a lot. Advisable to bring some water too.
Doua M — Google review
Gorgeous!!!! It was worth the work. Make sure you have the right shoes to hike. Rocky and can be slippery and the elevation goes up. Remember, you are in the forest with plenty of fauna. Plants can create humidity and moisture. But it was well worth it for the reward at the end.
Melissa W — Google review
If you want a medium hike with great scenery! This is the place. We have visited several times in our visits to Oahu, in different months and every time it's pleasantly enjoyable. Bring good hiking shoes, water, mosquito repellent (some months), umbrella (some months) and a good camera. The waterfall is not as thick sometimes but it's the trek that will leave you with good memories.

The Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum offers a captivating experience for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The museum features two hangars showcasing a remarkable collection of World War II aircraft, along with engaging exhibits that provide insight into the events of December 7, 1941. Visitors can explore vintage airplanes such as the Curtiss P-40E Warhawk and the Lockheed F-104A Starfighter. Additionally, the Raytheon Pavilion offers STEM exhibits and interactive activities for children.
We were visiting on vacation when we came to the Aviation Museum. I was really impressed by the staff and displays inside. Everything had it's own diorama and helped tell a story. I loved all the pictures of Hawaiian life before Pearl Harbor. The renovated lighthouse is amazing and the static displays outside were great to get up and close. Someday, maybe the Swamp Ghost will be up and viewable, that will be a sight!
Peter R — Google review
Located on Ford Island this museum is excellent. General public have to take a shuttle from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center to gain access to the museum. Active and retired military will be able to drive to the museum. Aircraft from WW2 to modern aircraft are on display. The hangar holding aircraft related to the attack of December 7th is very informative. Seeing the B-17 Swamp Ghost is a journey back in time. The B-17 remains in the condition in which it was recovered from a swamp some years ago. Military and senior discounts on admission are available. Tickets range from $11 for children to $30 for adults. You can also purchase a ticket that allows you access to the control tower that affords you the best views of Pearl Harbor. There is a large fully stocked gift shop. A small cafe, The Hangar Cafe is also onsite. Check out the Passport to Pearl Harbor if you’re interested in visiting the other sites (USS Missouri, USS Arizona ,Submarine Museum).

A Must-See For Aviation and History Enthusiasts Alike The Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor is a fascinating destination for anyone interested in military history and aviation. The museum showcases an incredible collection of historic aircraft, including World War II fighters and bombers, and provides context about their roles during pivotal battles in the Pacific. Walking among these planes gives you a tangible sense of the scale, technology, and bravery involved in wartime aviation. One of the highlights of the visit is Hangar 79, where you can see the bullet holes from the attack on December 7, 1941. The preserved structure and accompanying exhibits offer a sobering glimpse into history, showing just how much these sites endured. It’s a humbling experience to see the scars of the past while learning about the events that shaped the Pacific theater. The museum is well-organized, with informative displays and knowledgeable staff who make the experience both educational and engaging. From historic aircraft to the preserved hangars, every corner of the Aviation Museum tells a story of courage, innovation, and resilience. For anyone visiting Pearl Harbor, this museum is an essential stop that complements the USS Arizona Memorial and other historic sites.

Visiting the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum was an incredible experience from start to finish. The moment you step inside, you can feel the history come alive. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed, showcasing everything from World War II aircraft to modern military jets, and each display tells a powerful story of courage, innovation, and sacrifice. The museum does an outstanding job of blending education with emotion. Walking through Hangar 37 and Hangar 79, you get to see bullet holes from the attack on Pearl Harbor still visible on the glass—an awe-inspiring reminder of what took place right there on Ford Island. The aircraft are beautifully preserved, and the interactive exhibits make it enjoyable for all ages. The staff and volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, eager to share details and personal stories that made the visit even more meaningful. I especially enjoyed the flight simulator—it was a fun way to experience what it might have been like to pilot one of those legendary planes. Overall, the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, aviation, or simply wants to better understand the bravery that shaped our nation. It’s not just a museum—it’s a powerful journey through time that leaves you with a deep sense of respect and gratitude. Would highly recommend making this a key stop when visiting Oahu!

Visiting the Pearl Harbor Museum was an incredible and moving experience. It was surreal to walk through areas that still bear the bullet holes from the attack—tangible reminders of a day that changed history. The museum does a phenomenal job preserving and presenting artifacts recovered from the conflict, giving visitors a real sense of what those who lived through it endured. From the detailed exhibits to the preserved remnants of the battle, it’s a powerful place that honors the past and the people who served. A must-visit for anyone who wants to better understand this pivotal moment in history.

Great aviation museum. They have great displays, and definitely don't miss going out to historic Hangar 79. They have moved a lot of the aircraft outside which is great for viewing. There is also the Hangar Cafe inside along with the gift shop. Air Tower is a separate fee.

This place, while beautiful, is not worth a stand-alone entrance fee. They have some very nice planes on display but not enough for a $30 charge. My suggestion would be that it should be added on to the Missouri's entrance fee by maybe $10. The attached video is basically the entire aviation museum.

Magic Island, located between Ala Moana Beach Park and the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, is a hidden gem often overlooked by tourists and locals alike. This artificial peninsula offers a beautiful beach area, grassy spaces, and stunning sunset views. It's a peaceful spot for kids to swim with lagoons that are less crowded than nearby beaches. The park also provides walking and running paths leading to the lagoon, making it an ideal place for families.
One of my favorite places when I go into town. The sunset here is gorgeous. Great for running, walking, relaxing, whatever. Also close to tons of great food spots. Marugame Udon, Little G’s cafe.

Magic Island is a fun spot to visit in Honolulu because there’s always something going on - people BBQing, couples taking engagement photos, kids playing, runners, hammock loungers… it’s a vibe. I ran a 5K here and loved it since the path is flat and easy. The sunsets are unreal (think fiery pinks and oranges). Just a heads up though that the park closes at night, so make sure to read the car signs so that your car doesn’t get towed!

A must do for anyone visiting Honolulu with small kids. The beach is designed with a wall of rocks to break waves and ensure the water is calm. It’s crystal clear and there’s amenities available (toilet, shower, change room etc). The water stays shallow til quite far out, we even managed to find a sunken boat about 3/4 out with tonnes of fish around it. Bring a snorkel if you have one! Getting there is easy by bus, a 5/10 minute walk from the stop and there’s plenty of free parking nearby if you’re driving.

Kuhio Beach is a family-friendly park in Waikiki with shallow, lagoon-like water and statues honoring local legends. The beach offers convenient access to snorkeling adventures, protected by a man-made barrier wall known as Kapahulu Groin. This creates calm waters perfect for snorkeling, allowing for safe exploration of the thriving marine ecosystem below.
We really enjoy going here as it has a water break and makes for a nice swimming area. The beach area is clean and has nice sand. There is a safety officer that walks up and down the beach to keep an eye on things. There are also lots of resturants and stores close by for snacks.

Great beach at a great location. The water was calm and the crowd was thick. Walking distance to an abundance of entertainment, shopping and dining. Picturesque views in all directions. Plenty of shade under the gorgeous trees.

Most popular and easiest beach to go in Oahu. It is not the most clean and beautiful but because this beach is right in the front of Waikiki, you can just walk there and enjoy almost everything. The beach is totally city vibe so if you can't stand being crowded you might have to come super early or late night, but you won't see anything or if you rent a car you can go to another beach that more private. Overall, I like it. so lively and festive.
Melissa N — Google review
Beautiful beach with very attentive life guards. Be cautious by the opening in the wall to the sea as there’s a strong rip tide at that point. The beach is clean and well looked after. It’s a very busy spot but worth an hour or so to explore and enjoy the calm section of the water protected by the wall.

Kūhiō Beach is great, due to the fact that it has a wall that breaks the big waves which makes it very safe for children and for people that can't swim very well. Ther is also a side for experienced swimmers that prefer to catch waves, go farther in the ocean, or surf.

The Hula Dog Kuhio is a fantastic contemporary hot dog restaurant that features garlic lemon sauce and shaved ice desserts. It's perfect for those looking for something different than the average hot dog. The food is delicious and the atmosphere comfortable and fun.
Never had a dog like this before! Lots of options. The dog and bread were both fantastic. The sauce was a bit spicy for my taste, even mild, though my wife enjoyed it just fine. Get a drink too! There is a large covered area here with tables to eat at. The man working here was super cool and even helped us get some quick photos beside the cart.
Ty S — Google review
I read about these hot dogs years ago and it was a must taste for our trip to Honolulu. Bread was fresh and delicious. I got the medium garlic lemon sauce with Hawaiian mustard and pineapple relish. All beef dog was juicy and perfectly complemented by the sauces and mustard. Being able to eat a hot dog with lots of sauces without getting all over me was a special treat. I saw that Anthony Boudain (RIP) had visited their stand in the past and was impressed as well. Toasting a whole loaf(similar to an unsliced hoagie roll) on a spike made for a unique experience. I’m only sorry I didn’t get a photo before I took a bite. Sooo worth the wait!
Gregg M — Google review
Wow. This is not just a hot dog stand. I was was skeptical because hot dogs are not usually something I go for but this hands down is the best and will be on our itinerary every time we come back to Hawaii. The cashier was friendly, the bread as tasty as any Hawaiian roll. The toppings really make the dog though. Flavorful and surprising. You don’t expect the flavors to go well together but they do!

This is worth seekimg out! Unique and incredible! Ordered the signature poi polish dog and the Hawaiian polish dog. Both were amazing! I normally don't Iike hot dogs, but these were definitely worth the try!! Also, the li hing lemonade is awesome! The owner was very personable and chatted passionately about his wonderful, fresh sauces, etc. Overall, 10 out of 10. Really. Cool, fun, and delicious. Also, we made it a point to try puka dog on kauai, as well. Trust me, hula dog is the clear winner.

Absolutely amazing. Hula Dog is hands down one of the most unique and delicious food experiences on Oahu. The sweet Hawaiian bread is perfectly soft with just the right amount of chew and the way they toast it from the inside is genius. I tried the mango relish with the spicy garlic lemon sauce and a polish sausage and it was a flavor explosion. The balance of sweet savory and spicy is unlike any hot dog I have ever had. Plus Dennis was super friendly and the vibes were laid back and fun. Whether you are a local or just visiting this place is a must try. Definitely a five star gem.

I was told I HAD to go to Hula Dog while in Honolulu. The Classic hot dog was fine. The Hula Polish was much tastier. I did enjoy the pineapple lemonade. Honestly I probably wouldn't eat there again.
Briana C — Google review
Food truck located in a courtyard with other food trucks. I messed up ordering-stumbled on ordering relish. I’m used to “yes or no” for relish, not four flavor options. Apologies for frustrating the guy working (he was really cool - after we got past my brain fade lol - explained the bread recipe is their own). I ordered a polish sausage on the white roll with original garlic lemon sauce, pineapple relish (note tropical relish isn’t just one option, it has four flavors to choose from) and Hawaiian mustard. It’s a big portion, glad I ordered only one. Lemonade is good too. In hindsight, I should’ve ordered the purple roll. Cool experience.

Duke's Waikiki is a popular beachfront restaurant with a tiki vibe and lively atmosphere, located facing Waikiki's famous Canoes surf break. Named after Duke Kahanamoku, the father of modern surfing, the casual spot offers a variety of appetizers, a large salad bar, and crowd-pleasing entrees such as fish and prime rib. The venue also features memorabilia honoring Duke Kahanamoku and serves the famous Hula Pie dessert.
Had one of our favorite meals of our trip here! I had the vegan wild mushroom & spinach ravioli and my fiancé had the teriyaki sirloin. Beyond delicious for both dishes, mine was flavorful with the macadamia nut pesto and my fiancé said his steak was one of the best he’s ever had. We were seated immediately despite the busy Sunday dinner rush, and our server was super kind and quick to bring us our drinks & check in on us multiple times. Our server was also very knowledgeable on vegan food and recommended a couple places for me to try, and even knew to let me know while the desert they had was technically vegan, but it did contain honey. He talked to us about life on O’ahu and Kauai and was such an amazing server and truly made our last night such a treat. Highly recommend trying this place

Nicest place. On the beach. Great lights and live music. Took 20 minutes to the waiter to reach me for order but other then that was very nice and welcoming. I had the “prime rib staek” which was definitely corn fed and tasted like cheapest steak I have ever eaten. Look at the color in the picture it was curiously red🤨 French fries was cool but not really throughly made. Mashed potatoes was perfect and freshly made.

Come to Duke's for breakfast because it next to the beach and walking distance from my hotel but I didn't expect to be a buffet style. Food was just ok, I'm not crazy about everything except scramble eggs that freshly made, and I have to order through my server. When we got to our table, the table was dirty and my husband has to clean it himself (he should get a discount for helping the restaurant cleaning, lol.) View is good but lots of bushes blocking the view even we got a table on the deck. Maybe if I eat here in different time the food will be better.
Melissa N — Google review
Tasty food, but very corporate feeling. You could literally taste the corporate in every bite. IYKYK. The calimari was phenomenal, though. They definitely don't make it like that on the mainland. They're not the little rings we're used to. They were big, meaty morsels. Main entrees were underwhelming. Again, see "corporate" comments above. I'm blanking on our server's name, which is extremely unfortunate, because she was top notch. I really, really wanted to give her a shout-out here, but then vacation happened and I'm just getting around to leaving reviews now that I'm home. Brittany, maybe? I hope so, because she deserves the recognition. Beautiful ocean views, but again, the whole place feels a bit corporate for my liking. The buffet looked ok, but pretty skippable, so we opted to order off the menu instead. The hula pie was simple but delicious. If you like ice cream cake, it's 100% going to be your jam.
Matt H — Google review
We came for the hula pie and were not dissapointed. Nice cocktails too. We had eaten dinner elsewhere but they have a variety of food that looked and sounded appealing based on what others ate. Like I said we ate the hula pie. Is effectively an ice cream cake slice with chocolate fudge and whipped cream and sprinkled with nuts. Delicious is an understatement and a perfect dessert in a hot location. My wife and I shared it. It is not a one person dessert.

Duke’s is everything you’d want in a Hawaiian dining experience! We first went for lunch and loved it so much, we came back a few days later for dinner. The Hawaiian-style casual vibe, paired with a fresh selection of fish and steak, made every meal memorable. We were seated right by the beach, and hearing the waves while enjoying dinner truly added to the island feel. The outdoor atmosphere was absolutely perfect: relaxed, breezy, and so scenic. And let’s talk about dessert… their Hula Pie is a bomb! Sweet, creamy, and the perfect way to end a beachside meal. 🌴🍽️🌊 If you’re looking for island favorites with an unbeatable view and delicious food, Duke’s is a must-visit!

The Battleship Missouri Memorial, also known as the "Mighty Mo," is a historic site that holds significance in World War II history. Launched in 1944, it served in various wars before becoming a memorial at Pearl Harbor. The ship hosted the official Japanese surrender, marking the end of World War II. Visitors can explore war artifacts and exhibits on its fully restored decks and superstructure.
The Battleship Missouri Memorial is an incredible place to step into history. Walking the decks of the “Mighty Mo” gives you a real sense of what life was like aboard a World War II battleship, with the highlight being the exact spot where the Japanese surrender was signed in 1945. The ship is well preserved, and the exhibits are engaging, with knowledgeable guides who bring the stories to life. There are a few practical things to know before visiting: bags are not allowed, so bring only essentials. A dedicated shuttle bus takes visitors from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center to the ship, and no photos or videos are allowed on the way because you pass through an active military base and residential area for service members. Exploring the battleship itself requires a lot of walking and climbing numerous steep stairways — it’s a fascinating tour, but best suited for visitors with some stamina. Overall, it’s both educational and moving, and an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Pearl Harbor.
Ernesto G — Google review
I recommend coming here. Its historical value is impressive and has many things on the ship to check out. After going through, it makes me happy I never joined the navy with how packed the bunk stations are for the sailors. The view from the Captains deck is beautiful. It takes bout about an hour or two go through depending on your speed. It may take longer if you read everything. They have food and a gift shop for you to enjoy and check out when you're done. They do have water and bathrooms available if you need them. I recommend following the guided tour as it is free. The tour guide I had was part of the Movie Battleship. Very cool experience. The earlier you go the better. The ship does have AC inside which is very nice.

Loved it! I’ve been fascinated with battleships since I was a boy. The museum and lower deck experience was great. If you are interested in naval history it’s a must see. My wife isn’t but she still enjoyed her time there

Nice place to visit. Plan at least two hours to be able to walk the entire ship. Also, do the tour where the guide explains the details of the ship. Walk around and visit each area of the ship including the surrender plaque area and donut kitchen. Phone service was great one deck but no cell service inside the ship.
Doua M — Google review
I would highly recommend coming here. If you are already visiting Pearl Harbor, you should take the time to come over to see this. They were offering free tours every so often when I arrived. The ship is so vast and expansive, it is nice to have a tour guide give you history and facts that you wouldn’t otherwise get if you walked by yourself. To see the whole thing on your own, I would say take a few hours at least if you wanna see it all. Though you do have to take a bus from the Pearl Harbor museum, to the other side of the harbor to get to the ship.
Ethan T — Google review
Incredible access to floating history ! We were on ford island/Arizona tour that was the best I’ve seen ! We had excellent park department guides on the ship for a a bit and were turned loose to explore the beast! We had fairly free access to the mighty mo, could stayed longer but time constraints were a factor. Do much history there…… hard to take it all in! Important sidenote…. Try to make reservations for the 3:15 bus online for ford island!!!!! 40 tickets available twice a week from the stat park department. There website sucks but for 1$ you get an air conditioned bus ride from the park to the other side of ford island to see another pearl harbor site…..the best of the trip !
Doug B — Google review
A tour of the "Mighty Mo" is a fantastic experience. This is, by far, the largest battleship I've ever been on. Tourists can see most of the ship, several decks are open to the public. There are many interesting displays and exhibits such as the signing of Japan's surrender and the Kamakazi Corp. This tour was worth every cent of the cost of admission. I'm a fan of military history and could have spent DAYS exploring this ship!

A Monument to History and Courage — Standing on the Deck Where Peace Was Signed Visiting the Battleship Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor is an unforgettable experience. This iconic ship, famously known as the “Mighty Mo,” is where Japan officially surrendered in 1945, marking the end of World War II. Walking the decks, seeing the massive guns, and exploring the ship’s well-preserved interior gives a real sense of the scale and importance of this historic vessel. Guided tours provide incredible insights into daily life on board, the ship’s role in multiple conflicts, and the pivotal events that took place on her decks. The Missouri’s story is further enriched by its location within Pearl Harbor, where you can also visit the USS Arizona Memorial, the Aviation Museum, and Hangar 79. Together, these sites provide a comprehensive understanding of the Pacific theater, from the attack that drew the U.S. into World War II to the final surrender that brought peace. Standing on the Missouri after visiting these other sites really drives home the arc of history — from tragedy to triumph. Whether you’re a history buff or just a curious traveler, the Battleship Missouri Memorial is a must-see. The combination of immersive exhibits, knowledgeable staff, and the sheer scale of the ship makes it both educational and profoundly moving. It’s not just a museum — it’s a living tribute to courage, sacrifice, and the enduring significance of peace.

The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl, is a significant historic burial site located within the Punchbowl crater in Honolulu. Established in 1949, it serves as a memorial and resting place for over 53,000 individuals who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces since World War II.
This is a well maintained, beautiful cemetery. There is a kiosk near the entrance to help find graves of loved ones. The monuments and statues are incredible. We felt honored to pay our respects to the fallen veterans and their families. We are so glad we came to visit. It's very emotional to see this cemetery.

Colloquially known as "Punchbowl Cemetery", this cemetery is located in the crater of an extinct volcano. The grounds, buildings and chapel are absolutely exquisite. The views of Honolulu, Waikiki Beach and the ocean are spectacular. This is a solemn, peaceful place. Tour buses do not stop here but drive right through so it is best to take your own vehicle to get here.

National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific Few national cemeteries can compete with the natural setting of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The "Punchbowl" was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. Although there are various translations of the Punchbowl's Hawaiian name, "Puowaina," the most common is "Hill of Sacrifice." This translation closely relates to the history of the crater. The first known use was as an altar where Hawaiians offered human sacrifices to pagan gods and the killed violators of the many taboos. By 1947, Congress and veteran organizations decided to find a permanent burial site in Hawaii for the remains of thousands of World War II servicemen on the island of Guam awaiting permanent burial. The first interment was made Jan. 4, 1949. Eventually, over 13,000 soldiers and sailors who died during World War II would be laid to rest in the Punchbowl. On either side of the grand stairs leading to the memorial are eight courts of the missing on which are inscribed the names of the 18,095 American World War II missing from the Pacific. At the top of the stairs is a chapel flanked by galleries containing mosaic maps and descriptions of the achievements of the American armed forces in the central and south Pacific regions and in Korea. Visitation Hours: The cemetery is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Firstly thanks to Google Maps we walked up from downtown Honolulu on the side of a really dirty and unpaved road - luckily I saw a different route from the top and went down the other side. Now although the memorial is well maintained, there were workers cutting the grass and blasting music out even though they were right next to signs stating not to play loud music. Also, having all the traffic including tour buses driving around the memorial seems highly disrespectful. It could have been built so differently, with a car park where the visitor centre is and people walking up the little hill to the memorial. We didn't go to the monument as a service was taking place and wanted to be respectful. The views from the viewpoint were nice, but the viewpoint itself was not signposted and so we were roaming around on the road around the gravesites (there are no pavements, just a road circling through- strange. Even stranger was a sign offering drive-thru, first time I've really been reminded that I'm in the USA).

They do a great job maintaining the cemetery 24/7. Beautiful and peaceful
Carol R — Google review
My maternal grandparents are here, as are my father and, most recently, my favorite uncle, but even if I had no personal connection to the cemetery I would still find it a beautiful and peaceful place to spend time. The grounds are excellently maintained, and when they go all out, like they do on Memorial and Veterans Days, it's impossible not to be affected. I've always found the formal military funerals to be particularly moving, and the attention to detail paid by the service members who attend in their dress uniforms, the ones who perform the 21 gun salute and fold and present the flag to a surviving family member, is always impressive. Recently I've become wheelchair dependent and while it's not possible to navigate the grassy areas in my chair, everywhere else in the cemetery is easily accessed via extremely smooth asphalt and walkways.

Fort DeRussy Beach Park, located along Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, is a picturesque oceanfront park with beach swimming, showers, and a grassy area featuring picnic tables and grills. It is part of a scenic coastal stretch that includes Gray's Beach, Royal Hawaiian Beach, Kuhio Beach Park (also known as "the Ponds"), Queen's Beach, Kapiolani Beach Park, and Sans Souci Beach.
Amazing place, great park, beautiful beach with restrooms and showers. I recommend water shoes if you are near the reef. It's a bit rocky. We saw turtles right next to us.

It's a nice park. If you are disabled and use service dog, expect to be harassed by security and the assistant. Manager of Hale Koa. Otherwise it would be five stars

This park has a lot to offer. Whether you're just here for a stroll along the beach, looking for open play pickleball with the beach behind you, or just to enjoy the sunset, this park have those and more to offer. A very popular place with great vibes and memories to last.

Great park with many beautiful Banyon, Plumeria, and other flowering Trees. There are picnic tables and some barbeques along the large sandy beach. You can also view fireworks that are set off from the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Friday nights .

This is an awesome place to visit if you are wanting an awesome ocean view, to see the sunset, or even playing pickleball with all that has been mentioned above!! This was a gem for my husband and I to find since we always travel with our paddles and are constantly on the lookout for courts wherever we go. We played a couple of games and if we got too hot, we just jump in the ocean!!! We got the perfect trifecta: pickleball, ocean background, and an amazing sunset view!!! Oh just an FYI... there is a mini tiki bar there were you can purchase drinks while your playing or ocean-sunset viewing 🤗

Very clean beach with a Steak Shack on the side. We had a lot of fun here. Plus on Friday nights they have a Fire works show.

Swim with Dolphins
Dolphin Quest offers an unforgettable interactive experience with dolphins in an enclosed lagoon, making it a top activity for families visiting Oahu. The Dolphin Encounter allows participants to swim, hug, kiss, play games with the dolphins and take pictures while learning about the importance of protecting these creatures. The program ensures the well-being of the dolphins by allowing them breaks and enforcing safety rules. Visitors can also enjoy watching the dolphins from the sea side grill area.
What an amazing experience this was for our family of 4. My 2 kids (age 10 and 8 at this time) thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have been to a few dolphin encounters throughout Hawaii and I have to say this one has been the best one so far. There is a ton of hands on dolphin interaction time with several different dolphins. We love how our pictures came out too. Our guide was very knowledgeable and you can tell she was very passionate about her work with the dolphins and they were well taken care of. Definitely recommend ~
Crystal W — Google review
My cousin and I had such an amazing experience.. We had to opportunity to stay at The Kahala, the Kahala is where this Dolphin Quest is located.. While we were there we were able to observe the dolphins 24/7 and watch the trainers from start to finish… when on the “off” times. I have to say that the individuals that work with these dolphins truly love and respect the animals. The dolphins love the guests staying at the resort and love the Dolphin Quest employees. It is evident how happy the dolphins are.. We paid for the Experience and it is 100% worth the money.. We were able to interact and touch the dolphins.. Our trainer was Sara and she was so knowledgeable and you could tell how much Lono the dolphin loved her. I loved the fact that we were taught hand signals and sounds to interact with the dolphins.. After our encounter and late at night we were able to sit out on our lanai and interact with them using the tools Sara taught us.. Tara the photographer did an excellent job getting the perfect shot with our boy Lono.. One of the best experiences we have ever had. I personally enjoyed that during the day when the trainers were not with customers they were constantly cleaning the enclosure and playing with the animals.. I was also able to go down to the booth and chat with the employees and learn so much more.. I would give them 100 stars ⭐️ if possible. Great people and great program. Thank you all! We will be back.. Jessica and Nancy (Oregon)

No stars would be more appropriate. Why in the world do we still keep dolphins in captivity for human entertainment?! Especially in such a small area. Make a lazy river with some joy fish pond and will be more fun and beautiful look at. Enjoy dolphin watching from the beach or the boat.
Ingrida K — Google review
Dolphin Quest was the best animal encounter we have done as a family. We had the opportunity to meet dolphins before in our home country, but we never had the opportunity to swim with them. The Dolphin Quest instructors and trainers were very friendly and welcoming. We spent so much time with the dolphins. Both my kids loved the chance to learn about and touch the dolphins. They even got to give them hugs and kisses and ask them to do tricks. We all loved it and if we come back to Hawaii we are definitely doing it again.
Daniele C — Google review
The staff at DQO were so incredibly kind and helpful. My son (9) hurt his foot the day before our reservations and could not go in the water, but they were able to make some adjustments and still get him close to the dolphins and keep him part of the experience. They provided both conservation information and education about the animals, and are very respectful of them as creatures - it was a great experience!
Jennifer C — Google review
Amazing experience! Over 30 minutes of actual swim time with multiple dolphins. Opportunity to pet top and belly and fins, as the guide taught about the animals. Dolphins swim next to guests, guests learn cues to ask dolphins to dance and to splash and to jump and flip. So very fun and worth the cost. Unforgettable! Note... They will offer to sell you physical and digital photos of the experience, ranging from about $100-300 depending on the package you choose.
Bruce R — Google review
Such a wonderful experience with very small group, very knowledgeable staff, and constant interaction with the dolphins and being able to touch them and swim with them. Definitely the highlight of my trip. I highly recommend it. Also, very educational, which was nice. 😊
L.J. R — Google review
Life changing, epic, mind blowing, the things dreams are made of. This experience was so unique with small groups of 6 with your own guidance from a personal trainer and attention to detail. They set up photo shots without you even knowing they were taking them. The cost of 4 people for about 30 min was about $1,000.00 You will be in the lagoon with the dolphins, you will be able to pet the dolphins and yes they will even do tricks for you with your commands. Small price to pay for this exciting experience. 100% Happy …..

Foster Botanical Garden, located in the heart of Honolulu, has been a tranquil oasis for tropical plants since 1853. This 14-acre garden is home to mature tropical trees and exotic plant varieties from the islands. Visitors can explore rare plant collections including a butterfly garden, conservatory, and an extensive orchid zone with flowering orchids. The garden is open every day except for Christmas and New Years, offering a serene escape from the city.
Years ago I cut through a botanical garden and was amazed at the flowers and plants. Not boring at all! Now I seek them out. Today I looked to see how far I could get on a biki bike and the last station is near Foster botanical garden in Honolulu. Best $5 admission I spent this trip. It’s hard to get it from the photos but the trees - oh the trees!! - absolutely incredible. I had no idea there were so many type of palm trees. The Baobab, cannonball, and candle trees…the pitcher plant and butterflies. Great for families. I spent 2 hours here taking my time. A must see! And as a Christian I have to say that this absolutely brought me closer to God in wonder.

For only $5 for an entry it is a great deal and a great time! Beautiful plants and trees and the LARGEST tree trunk I have ever seen from the baobab tree a great time. Also has the tallest palm tree in Hawaii in the center of it lots of birds and small creatures as well!

Beautiful botanical garden with a wonderful atmosphere! The gift shop has lovely items, and the staff were very friendly. We visited as a family in the morning hours and it wasn’t busy, which made the experience even more enjoyable 😊

It’s got the oldest trees on the island. There’s a small greenhouse with some cool orchids, an outdoor butterfly area with plenty of milkweed, some mammoth baobab trees. It costs 5 bucks for visitors. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Chinatown. It felt more like a park.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Foster Botanical Garden in Honolulu, and it was an unforgettable experience! This hidden gem is a must-see for anyone who loves nature and tranquility. **Stunning Variety of Plants** The garden boasts an impressive collection of tropical plants, many of which are rare and exotic. Walking through the winding paths, I was captivated by the vibrant colors and diverse foliage. The collection of palms, orchids, and flowering trees was particularly stunning. **Peaceful Atmosphere** The serene ambiance of the garden made it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The gentle sounds of birds and the rustling of leaves created a calming backdrop as I explored. There are plenty of benches and quiet spots to sit and soak in the beauty around you. **Informative Signage** Throughout the garden, informative signs provide details about the various plant species and their origins. This educational aspect added depth to my visit, allowing me to appreciate the botanical diversity even more. **Perfect for All** Whether you’re a plant enthusiast, a casual visitor, or looking for a peaceful place to relax, Foster Botanical Garden has something for everyone. I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll through the garden, bringing a camera to capture the beauty, and perhaps even packing a picnic to enjoy on the lush grounds. Overall, my visit to Foster Botanical Garden was a highlight of my trip to Hawaii. It's a beautiful sanctuary that showcases the incredible biodiversity of the islands. I can’t wait to return on my next visit!

Dolphins and You offers a unique experience for visitors to swim among dolphin pods and sea life off the coast of Oahu. The tour begins at Waianea Boat Harbor with a native E Hoi Mai Ceremony. Suitable for kids aged 2 and up, guests can use an inflatable slide from the boat to swim alongside dolphins. The excursion also includes a visit to Kualoa Ranch, known for its Jurassic Park connections.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an amazing experience with Dolphins and their fantastic captain and crew! From the moment we set sail, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. We were lucky enough to see an abundance of marine life, including dolphins, colorful fish, and even some turtles! The crew's kindness and down-to-earth attitude made the day even more enjoyable. It felt like we were out on the water with friends rather than a tour group. We also opted for the picture package, and it was totally worth it! The photos captured the magic of the day perfectly. Thank you for providing such a memorable day filled with laughter and adventure! I can't recommend this experience enough! 🌺

My mom and I had an incredible experience at Dolphin and you! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with true “ohana” vibes that made us feel right at home. The instructors were fantastic — professional, friendly, and made sure we felt completely safe the entire time. Snorkeling was fun, and having Lauren as our photographer was such a treat — she captured beautiful memories that we’ll cherish forever. Also shout out to Cerene - amazing dancer and extremely helpful! 10000% recommend

The experience was amazing! 100% recommend. My 4 year old daughter and I joined a couple friends on the tour and the crew were extremely friendly, caring, helpful! My daughter had an absolute blast with everyone, playing with Captain Jerry, talking to our tour guide, Cyre. Tyler showed her where the turtle was when snorkeling. She meant a lot of the time on the bow of the boat just staring out in the ocean. We saw so many dolphins and also got lucky with a monk seal at the end of the tour. This was definitely a core memory for both of us! Mahalo

It was a 100% great and fun experience. From the bus driver (Mahea) she was very welcoming and got us there and back safely. To our photographer (Tyler) he was very easy going and super friendly! The captain was great and funny (Captain Jerry) He immerses you in the boat experience. (Ben) was very knowledgeable and was a jokester. (Silas) helped me come back to the boat on my paddle board when the waves took me out a bit out of my comfort zone. I never been on a paddle board before(Kainoa) helped me feel 100% comfortable. (Faavae) was the only girl aboard but she was amazing!!!! Overall would give 5/5!!!

We booked the Dolphin and me tour, and I'm so glad we did. They picked us up right on time. The tour guides were friendly, informative, and fun. Lauren went above and beyond to make us all feel comfortable. We saw many dolphins and then lots of fish while snorkeling. They even had a slide for those who wanted to slide onto the ocean. We even got to Kayak!! The captain was awesome, and gave my daughter a first class experience. They gave us a Luau performance towards the end of the trip. Overall, I would rate this tour a 10/10. Book this tour, you will not regret it. Mahalo.

Had THE best time today! Captain Dani and the whole crew were amazing. Took my 8 year old son. Thanks to Xy and Brandon for being so engaging with him. Made his (and my) whole day. Snorkeling and water sliding straight into the ocean, up close spinner dolphins and a rare sighting of 'falsie killer whales', with a grand finale of hula on the deck. Can't wait to see the photos photog Lauren sends us. Mahalo nui loa for making us feel like Ohana.

This was our family’s second time booking with Dolphins and You, and we will absolutely do it again a third time when we’re back! The tour begins with a peaceful sail out to sea in search of dolphins — and this time, we were lucky enough to see so many! I was beyond ecstatic. On our first tour, we didn’t spot any dolphins, but even then, the experience was amazing. The crew always gives their all to find them, and just being out on the water is incredible in itself. But this time, seeing them up close truly made it magical. Once we reached our snorkeling spot, we saw tons of fish, and one of our lively guides, Lauren (selfie attached!), even dove about 30 feet down to bring up a sea star for us to see and touch — such a cool moment! Another standout was Brandon, who was the life of the party. He kept the energy high, made sure everyone was having fun, and ended the day by performing three beautiful hula dances (one of which we begged him to do because we didn’t want the fun to end!). Ben and the rest of the crew were also phenomenal — always checking in, keeping us safe, and making sure everyone felt comfortable at sea. My mother-in-law, who’s 58 and doesn’t swim, was hesitant to go at first. But the crew made her feel so secure that she actually got into the ocean for a bit — something we never thought would happen! That memory alone made the entire trip priceless. Thank you, Dolphins and You, for another unforgettable, joy-filled experience. If you’re on the fence about booking this excursion — take this as your sign to do it. You won’t regret it!

Lyon Arboretum, nestled in the Manoa valley, is a 194-acre tropical rainforest showcasing over 5,000 exotic plants and singing birds. As part of the University of Hawai'i, it serves as a research facility and aims to preserve Hawaii's rare endemic species. The arboretum offers an extensive network of paths and trails totaling over seven miles for visitors to explore its lush surroundings. Founded in 1918 by Dr. Harold L.
as a landscape architect arboretum is my go to place. this is my first time visit, I was impressed and had such amazing experience to learned about native species of Hawaii and be able to encountered with some native parrots and cardinals. However, some plants are missing IDs, and some paths are missing trail directions which would be helpful for the visitors.

Beautiful place with wonderful views, however if you come during raining season prepare to bring ponchos/rainjackets as it can get pretty rainy at times (more than I was expecting). Also put on bug spray (they sell at the gift shop if you don’t have), it is absolutely a necessity as I got bitten pretty badly on my legs. If you are sensitive to bites, I would also recommend long sleeved clothing. Personally will not be returning due to my sensitivity to bites but definitely worth checking out once for some great nature sights.

An incredible experience! Stunning scenery complemented by a diverse array of indigenous plants. Truly nature at its finest! The staff were warm and welcoming, making the visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates the beauty of the natural world—definitely worth your time!
Rashmi K — Google review
If Waimea Valley feels like a well-curated garden of Hawaiian endemic plants, this place feels more like nature’s wild side—diverse, lush, and almost primitive. The trails are quieter, more private, and give you the sense that you’re walking closer to nature. Plus, catching glimpses of the mountain range from inside the valley was a nice surprise. But fair warning: the mosquitoes here are thriving! During our whole stay in Oahu, we barely saw any, but today they threw a party. I gave a donation at the visitor center, while my wife ended up giving a “blood donation” to the mosquitoes. 🦟😂
Dongjae K — Google review
This is the most beautiful park I’ve ever been to. If I lived closer and had the time I would go everyday. It is truly a gem. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of this place. There is a parking nearby and a hike to the falls. Originally, I went for the hike, but I preferred this botanical garden.
Austin — Google review
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy this garden very much. First, the signs throughout the park were very absent or hard to find. Based on the map, there should be a sign at every crossroad with the number and letter that matches the number and letter on the map, so that you know where you are at any given time. However, we barely found any signs at any of the intersections. So navigating through the park was very confusing. Second there were so many mosquitoes, so I would recommend using bug sprays before you enter.
Cindy L — Google review
Wow, tropical jungle and huge trees. Flowers galore with the scents to go with them. We went early but not early enough, was already filling up. Go super early!

I went hiking with a friend on a Tuesday afternoon. She made the ticket reservation for us the Sunday before we visited and entrance was smooth/ no wait, the road driving up to arboretum was a little rough with some pot holes but parking lot already had lovely views. It was overcast during our visit and dew covered a lot of the flowers we saw. Overall very lovely visit, just be prepared to watch your step since the route goes through both root-filled and paved areas. They also have a water spigot at the end in case your shoes get muddy. We sprayed our legs with bug spray before and didn’t get bitten. The Hawaiian section is lovely, but is a bit of an incline, views at the highest part were gorgeous. The visitor center was also very well kept. In case you forget water they sell bottles for $1 and souvenirs/shirts as well.

Tantalus Lookout, situated within Puu Ualakaa State Park just outside Honolulu, offers a less strenuous yet equally fulfilling experience for visitors. The lookout provides stunning panoramic views of the Diamond Head volcano cone and the Waikiki skyline, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely picnic against the backdrop of a picturesque sunset.
This place is absolutely magical and well worth the drive! The winding switchbacks on the way up and back and filled with all sorts of beautiful trees, plants, and flowering bushes. It's well maintained and there are mirrors on tight curves so you won't hit anyone. The lookout point has plenty of parking and is clean and well maintained as well. It's such a beautiful view of a good portion of the island, and we got to sit in the mist as well. We even saw wild pigs on our way out!

This lookout is great! Takes a while to get there though. You have to drive up some winding roads on the cliff side. But eventually you get to a small parking lot with a nice lookout! May be a bit windy/chilly, but the view is fabulous! Great place to look out at town, diamond head, the airport, sand Island, and Pearl harbor!

The finest of experiences are always the unexpected ones. This is the last minute visit before our flight back to home next morning. Sometimes the best moments come from spontaneous decisions, and this was absolutely one of them. The drive up experience was great 👍 no traffic and easy. Roads were well maintained and clean. And while at the peak, the best sunset was offered right upon arrival - unplanned but unforgettable. One of the hidden gems and it's amazing to see the city and Diamond Head from another angle. 💯♥️🫶
Raymond W — Google review
There is a lookout in this park that provides a panoramic view of Honolulu and Waikiki. The view is gorgeous. Also a perfect place to watch sunset. One thing to note is that it does get really windy here. There are two parking lots available near this lookout. The one right next to the lookout is very small. It only holds about a dozen cars. The safer bet is to park at the slightly further parking lot with only a five minute walk to the Vista point.

Tantalus Lookout – A Last-Minute Detour Worth Every Turn Our visit to Tantalus Lookout wasn’t planned—but sometimes the best moments come from spontaneous decisions, and this was definitely one of them. The drive up to the lookout is an experience in itself. It’s a narrow, winding road that snakes through lush forest and climbs steadily up the mountain. Take it slow, be cautious, and don’t worry about the cars behind you—there’s no passing, and your only concern should be your safety and the people with you. Despite the tight curves, the drive is thrilling and beautiful, with sneak peeks of the view as you ascend. When we finally reached the top and parked, the view completely took us by surprise. Stretching out in front of us was a panoramic view of Honolulu, Diamond Head, and the Pacific Ocean, all the way from the east to the west. It was quiet, peaceful, and absolutely stunning. There was plenty of parking when we arrived, and the lookout area offered space to walk around and take in the scenery. Whether you’re into photography, sunsets, or just looking for a moment of calm above the city, this spot delivers. In short: • Unplanned but unforgettable • A careful drive, but worth every curve • Incredible views from mountain to sea • A must-see gem just outside the city If you’re in Oahu and want a break from the beach crowds, Tantalus Lookout is a perfect way to rise above it all—literally.

Beautiful stop with a stunning view of Diamond Head and the Pacific Ocean. Definitely worth the drive up. The road wasn’t too complicated, though a bit tight on some hairpin turns, but a midsize vehicle made it up just fine. There’s also a nice picnic area nearby, perfect for enjoying lunch while taking in the aloha surroundings.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden is a unique 200-acre crater featuring a diverse collection of blooming plants, cacti, and foliage. Situated near the renowned Koko Crater hiking spot, the garden specializes in arid, dryland, and Mediterranean climate plants while also showcasing an international array of flora. The micro-climate within the crater creates a desert-like environment where visitors can observe native Hawaiian plants alongside exotic species from Africa, Madagascar, and beyond.
We got here late in the day so didn’t get to see it all, but loved everything that we got to! The plumeria groves were beautifully in bloom and right near the parking lot, so even people who weren’t up to a hike were able to check them out. The park signage said it was a 2 mile loop trail to see the full extent of the gardens, which includes native Hawaiian, African, American, and Pacific plants. The trail itself was rocky and a little uneven, so wear sneakers and plan for that. They had a few picnic tables in the plumeria grove, so even if you don’t want to go into the rest of the garden it’s a great place to sit and enjoy.

A Hidden Gem Inside a Volcanic Crater! We visited the Koko Crater Botanical Garden during our trip to Oahu, and it was one of the highlights of our vacation! The garden is uniquely located inside the crater of an ancient volcano, which makes for a truly special experience. Highlights include: • Plumeria grove with a stunning range of colors and fragrances • Cactus and succulent collection with massive and unusual shapes • Unique trees from Africa, Madagascar, and Hawaii The garden is free to enter, but be prepared — there are minimal facilities (only a portable toilet and no drinking water), so bring water and wear sturdy shoes. It’s also best to arrive early since parking is limited. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to explore a peaceful, lesser-known spot on Oahu!
Aleksandr D — Google review
I visited on August 5, 2025. This place features plants adapted to dry climates, and you really get the feeling of being inside a crater. You can see plumerias in various colors, so I think it’s worth visiting as a hiking spot. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle!
Takeyuki N — Google review
High desert area with a lovely plumeria grove, cacti and gardens from several areas were represented. Loop trail is unpaved, rocky and climbs uphill so please wear sturdy footwear and watch your step. Best time is early morning before the heat or late evening for sunset. Lot was almost empty when I went so plenty of parking just don’t leave valuables in your car since the area is a little secluded.
J H — Google review
This is a hidden gem! We were very impressed. So many beautiful plumeria groves and other plants that we did not expect to see from Hawaii and many other tropical places. These gardens are also very secluded with a small parking lot. We ran into less than 5 people while there. Highly recommend over other gardens on the island.
Emily D — Google review
After visiting Foster botanical garden this was a bit of a let down. There are some very interesting trees and the cactus garden is fantastic but lots of empty or dull segments for a non-botanist. The trail is rugged so if you trip easy or have poor balance bring hiking shoes and possibly poles. Bring water. It gets hot! It makes for a nice loop walk though, taking about 1.5 hours. We got our steps in!
Jeff S — Google review
Beautiful garden that has a wide variety of plants & trees from around the world. It took us about 1.5 hours to do the loop that included lots of stops to look at our map & identify plants. The brochure provided was informative & very helpful.
Victoria D — Google review
In addition to flowers such as plumeria, there are various plants from around the world, including cacti. The trail is longer than expected, so I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes such as sneakers and bringing plenty of water with you.

Queens Beach, situated in the Waikiki area, is a perfect spot for beginners and families with its calm turquoise waters ideal for paddle-boarding and bodyboarding. The nearby reef close to the Waikiki Aquarium offers excellent snorkeling opportunities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy an early morning run past the picturesque Tudor and French Norman cottages leading to Diamond Head Beach Park.
Beautiful beach. Visited a couple of times. A little quieter than waikiki beach and kuhio beach. Waves can be high. One of the days we were lucky to see a seal, which swam right up close to the shore.
Moniqa K — Google review
Lots of places to sit but the sand & water on this side of the Waikiki wall has alot of sharp coral & big chunks of broken coral. There’s even warning signs up. So be mindful of this. Water didn’t look that inviting with sediment floating (hard to capture this in photos) and the sand is on a more sharp angle. More waves on this side. Didn’t swim here due to this. However, this was the only working public restroom along the beach. So I definitely appreciated using that!
Christine — Google review
Great beach! It's right by the Honolulu zoo parking lot which is super nice, and it's also very close to Waikiki. There's a nice outlook spot that a lot of kids jump off of with boogie boards. The swimming is great too!
Theo W — Google review
Great beach at a great location. Walking distance to an abundance of entertainment, shopping and dining. Picturesque views in all directions. Plenty of shade under the gorgeous trees.
Dodd B — Google review
Gorgeous beach. There’s a wall that creates this shallow area that you are able to walk fairly far out. There’s also a pier that juts out. Great place to bring the family!
Rhodes F — Google review
Great place to surf mid spring. Paddle boarding is also great. Life guard is on duty. Also fun for the kids to bring their body board on the shore break. Wouldn't recommend for children younger than three. You can feed the fish bread and snorkel with them just off the wall to the right. There are more homeless in the area so watch your things. Dog friendly and tree friendly(you can hang hammocks and slack lines here). Lots of grassy area if you don't want to sit in the sand. Bathrooms are nearby and showers. Lots of parking available but can be busy on the weekends so you can always park at the zoo and walk over. Also a great place to take surf lessons.
Muriah J — Google review
Great beach for boogie boarding with the locals. The use of surfboards in the area is restricted but sometimes you get people who have hired boards that have no idea. The beach is wide with plenty of coarse grained sand. Snorkeling on the reef area is also popular because there are plenty of fish - maybe they know it is a marine park area.
Llewellyn S — Google review
Good beach. Less crowded than Waikiki. Bad snorkeling visibility on our visit. Good people watching.

Kapiolani Park Beach is a hidden gem nestled at the edge of Kapiolani Beach Park, just a stone's throw from the bustling Waikiki Beach. This picturesque area boasts not only stunning views but also rich history, as it was once reserved for Hawaiian royalty. The beach offers gentle waves, making it an ideal spot for families and children to enjoy water activities safely.
Mild waves. SUPER chill beach vibe. Great snorkeling opportunity. Lots of fish varieties with moray ell and see turtle special appearance
James D — Google review
Less crowded than Waikiki beach. Fun place to snorkel, surf, and hammock… there’s sometimes fire spinning too if you go on the right day. Parking can be tough so start manifesting a spot early. Amazing view of Diamond Head across from it too. Public transit is close and there are shops and bathrooms in the immediate area. ALWAYS REMEMBER to respect the island (‘aina) and leave it cleaner than you found it!! And please support local businesses ❤️
Arielle M — Google review
Less than a half a mile from Kuhio beach and way less crowded. Lots of grassy park area with benches. The ocean floor has some coral and shells but still beautiful.

Such a beautiful park. Lots of parking and my favorite lots of place's to sit and rest as you walk around the park. It helps us older folk.

Kaimana Beach, also affectionately known as Sans Souci Beach, is a delightful family-friendly oasis nestled at the entrance of the picturesque Gold Coast in Waikiki. This inviting stretch of sand boasts shallow waters perfect for children to splash around safely, while its protective reef ensures calm conditions ideal for snorkeling and paddleboarding. The beach's serene atmosphere makes it a favorite among locals and visitors alike, offering a peaceful retreat from the busier areas of Waikiki.
Good spot to swim, snorkel, or look for seals. Parking was pretty full but I didn’t have to wait long for a spot. Saw two Hawaiian monk seals on the beach from 10am-12pm! There is a lifeguard that makes sure people don’t get too close to the seals.
K W — Google review
Great little beach that is walkable from the Waikiki beach hotels. We went on a weekday morning and it was not very crowded and felt safe. There are also people snorkeling here, although I did not see many fish.
Anthony — Google review
The beach is really small, and honestly, it felt a little dirty. One of the downsides is how close it is to the hotels; you'll hear all the music and noise right on the sand. Maybe it's decent when there's hardly anyone around, but if it's busy, forget it. With so many amazing beaches nearby, I wouldn't recommend Kaimana Beach.
Bruno D — Google review
Such a wonderful beach! Right next to the giant field, and pretty close to Waikiki. It's pretty small, I'm not sure if there's parking anywhere, but the area around is very walkable. It's also free to enter, and there were no bathrooms.
Theo W — Google review
This is a hidden gem on the edge of Waikiki at the base of diamond head. Lots of sand and clear water that is not crowed with tourist. Some it is closed down due to the monk seals, but there is still plenty of beach left for everyone.

Kāhala Beach is a tranquil oasis nestled behind the luxurious Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu. This stunning beach offers an idyllic setting for sunbathing under swaying coconut trees and paddleboarding over vibrant coral reefs teeming with colorful fish. With its soft white sands and calm, clear waters, it's perfect for swimming or snorkeling away from the crowds of Waikiki Beach.
Kahala Beach, located in the upscale neighborhood of Honolulu, offers a serene and less crowded alternative to the bustling Waikiki Beach. This hidden gem features soft white sands and calm, clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is lined with luxury homes and resorts, providing a picturesque backdrop. Visitors appreciate the peaceful ambiance and stunning views, making it perfect for a relaxing day by the ocean. However, the beach can be narrow at high tide, and public facilities are limited. Overall, Kahala Beach is a beautiful spot for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty in Honolulu.
Virtuous S — Google review
Very beautiful beach with lovely palm trees. You can see many people taking photos here, but it is also not too crowded. Definitely recommend to pay a visit here.
陈平 — Google review
Visited twice and both times there were 2 other people on the entire beach. The beach was rocky. But the view was beautiful. Water is clean. We saw a turtle one day on the beach. Saw chickens on the beach too. Its about 20minute walk from Kahala mall. Down a straight road pretty easy to get to.
Moniqa K — Google review
Nestled in the upscale Kahala neighborhood, Kahala Beach is a hidden oasis offering tranquility and convenience. Despite its secluded charm, limited parking spaces ensure a peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect escape from the crowds. This full-service park provides amenities such as showers, restrooms, and a picnic area, catering to visitors' every need. Whether you're lounging on the soft sands, taking a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters, or enjoying a leisurely picnic with loved ones, Kahala Beach promises a delightful retreat amidst the beauty of Oahu's coastline.

Nice and secluded beach with limited parking spaces. It is full-service park with showers, restrooms, picnic area for visitors. The beach area in front of the hotel is swimmable with gradual slope - other sections have shells or gravels. There are coconut trees lined up to provide background for beautiful pictures.
Qlv A — Google review
A beautiful, calm, quiet beach. The waves are mellow if you want to even call them waves. Great place to swim and never seems to be busy. The part in front of the Hilton has tons of shade and there is a bar there where you can get some adult beverages! Want to get away from the crowd? Don’t like huge waves or shore breaks? Want to just swim and snorkel in calm warm waters? This place will check off all the boxes.

This is a picturesque beach that is such a perfect example of Hawaii's beauty we decided to renew our vows on our 20th anniversary here. Waiʻalae Beach Park, located 7.4 miles from Honolulu, is a popular oceanfront destination offering a pristine setting for various activities. Visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, snorkeling, and walking amidst lush greenery away from the city's hustle and bustle. The park provides amenities such as shade, benches, showers, and restrooms suitable for large groups and individuals with physical disabilities.
This is a lovely and secluded beach, perfect for a relaxing day with family. There are designated areas for picnics, making it easy to enjoy a meal outdoors. The views are stunning, and the sunsets are absolutely breathtaking. A wonderful spot to unwind and take in nature’s beauty!

A calm clean beach with excellent views for sunset. I didn't care for Waikiki beach; however this beach reminded me of those in chill West Maui beach vibes. There were also bench area and picnic tables, as well as a restroom
Jamie — Google review
Love coming here early morning The park is so well taken care of by the city Only a few homeless Not so bad Couple car dwellers but it’s alright I love the accessibility to the beach and the views are amazing. Easy to park and not to busy mid week !
Hillary J — Google review
Pretty mid. Beach looks fairly nice with a little bit of black sand mixed in carved off the rocks around Hunama Bay and China walls. Water is not that clean or friendly to use. River is drainage from golf course and the neighborhoods pollution. Water is just a hundred yards or more of broken coral to walk on. If you want to hang out on the beach, it's okay. If you want to get in the water, skip it.
Christian C — Google review
My husband and I just had our wedding vow renewal ceremony there. It was the perfect backdrop for a wedding. It was perfect for photos, for my dress and the train that the trade winds just naturally took and blew for photo ops, and it was just breathtaking. I am so glad it was all captured on film. I couldn’t be happier about the location.
Carmela L — Google review
Great view, beach sand is a bit more course and has branches, etc all over. Beach itself is a bit rocky but you can walk pretty far out without being submerged so some might like it for that.
Jahnoi A — Google review
Nice quiet, uncrowded beach located in a residential neighborhood. I guess very few tourists know about this place. The water is calm and the shoreline is shallow so it is the perfect family spot. The kids will enjoy themselves, swimming, sand toys, and snorkeling. Coarse sand and a few rocks sprinkled in so be careful wading and wear beach shoes. Decent shower facilities and rest rooms. There are a few shaded picnic tables along the grassy field adjacent to the beach. Limited amount of free parking. There is a sign saying don’t leave your valuables in the car, so be warned.
Henry C — Google review
A nice small beach away from the busy Waikiki beach. We like to come to this beach for a lunch picnic. No stores, shops, or vendors at this beach so bring your own snacks. There's a small free parking lot that can be tough at times to find a parking spot. There's a typical park building (nothing fancy) with restroom, changing area, and shower to rinse off. There's also an outside fresh water rinse off and 5 picnic tables in a row under the shade from a tree growing on a trellis overhead. The beach is a mix of sandy and some rocks. Nice beach just not the fine sand. Every time we've been here there's less than 10 people on the beach or swimming. Nice beach if you don't like crowds...

Nestled in the heart of Honolulu, Liliʻuokalani Botanical Garden spans 7.5 acres and is a serene sanctuary showcasing indigenous Hawaiian plants. Once Queen Liliuokalani's cherished picnic spot, this tranquil oasis boasts vibrant ohia lehua trees and small charming waterfalls. The garden is dedicated to preserving native flora, including white, yellow, and shell ginger plants that fill the air with refreshing scents in springtime.
This is 2 of the 5 Honolulu Botanical Gardens. It is free. However, this was more like a small park than a Botanical Garden. It had 3 small beautiful falls & was wheelchair friendly. We were the only ones at the park. The grass was great on your feet. This would be a nice place for a picnic of food brought from home because there are no bar-b-cue grills!
R A — Google review
Garden is not well cared for and run down. Unfortunate because it could be a really nice place. Very free plants are tagged, many are dead or dying. Bathrooms in disrepair. It's quiet and not very many people there so can get away from the crowds at least.
Robert B — Google review
This is a free public park. Very small. 2 picnic tables. No restrooms. Very very small about two blocks long. Clean. It had a walkway down to the lower portion of the ravine. A small natural waterfall in the middle.
Karen W — Google review
This is an absolutely beautiful place to admire nature at its best. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very kind. There are several waterfalls that are breathtaking.
Yashica R — Google review
It is a quiet and peaceful park. It is small but you can sit down and enjoy the sound of water. The park is free and have parking lot.
Lancy L — Google review
In the heart of the bustling city lies a serene garden adorned with a beautiful waterfall. Wheelchair-accessible sidewalks and a bridge enhance its accessibility. However, during our visit, the tranquility was marred by litter in the stream, and we encountered a homeless man utilizing the waterfall for washing his clothes, and taking shelter under the bridge. His behavior caused discomfort as he passed by with his hands in his pants rubbing himself- deterring us from using the available picnic tables and cut our visit short.
Ginger A — Google review
Complete disgraceful not only because of having no highlights as far as tropical botanical anything, but also totally beneath the condition it should have been. I walk by here almost daily and see many times people encroaching after hours and late nights through the garden, homeless and drug abuse very common here, wouldn't recommend to visit at any time.
