Pho restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Honolulu's Chinatown, The Pig and The Lady is a must-visit for anyone craving modern Vietnamese cuisine with a twist. This family-run gem offers an exciting menu that changes regularly, showcasing inventive dishes that are rich in flavor and creativity. One standout item is their famous pho French dip sandwich, which has garnered rave reviews for its unique combination of braised brisket and Thai basil chimichurri, served alongside a comforting bowl of pho broth perfect for dipping.
The Pig and TheLady was amazing! All the dishes I ordered at this restaurant were delicious. The pho was especially tasty, and I ended up ordering extra ahi because it was so good. The staff were all friendly and had great energy, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was very hip and trendy. Highly recommend!

We came for the highly recommended Pho French Dip. We found it’s only available for lunch… although our highly skilled waiter told us it’s also available at the farmers market on Saturdays. I had the pork chop with mango slaw - it was amazing! We enjoyed incredible appetizers: chicken wings fried to perfection with a tasty sauce + peanuts and a Cesar salad. The dessert was incredible: a soft serve with a unique Vietnamese honeycomb cake. Oh, and the bathroom was hilarious and cool!

I don't often leave reviews but I'm still thinking about this meal 2 months later so I feel it's only right to say something. We found this restaurant while visiting and I'm so glad we did - I'm not usually a fan of asian fusion but The Pig & the Lady proved me wrong. Each dish was a 10/10 and service was warm and attentive. We enjoyed our dinner so much we squeezed in another lunch visit the next day before our flight. Honolulu wasn't my favourite but I'd come back just to have this meal again, the team at The Pig and the Lady should be proud of the work they do

We were excited to see this new location and it did not disappoint. Vibe is super cute, food is onos as always, staff was friendly & parking was super easy. They validate parking for the Civil Beat structure ($3 after validation) or you can park in the open lot by 3660. We shared a couple apps then ordered our own mains. Highly recommend if you never got to try them while they were downtown. Will definitely be back!

One of the best bowls of pho I’ve had in a long time. The broth was rich and delicious with a deep beef flavor, fatty but not overwhelming. Surprisingly, the meal came without the usual plate of herbs and bean sprouts, and it didn’t need it. Everything was seasoned perfectly, so I never felt the need to add anything extra. The noodles tasted like pho tuoi (fresh noodles) rather than the factory-made kind, which made a big difference. The star of the bowl was a massive rib bone with tender, fall-off-the-bone meat. Service was attentive and friendly, adding to the experience. A perfect spot for either a date night or a casual meal. The decor and ambience struck a nice balance, relaxing yet vibrant.

Amazing service. Amazing food. Innovative menu. The Chinese mustard dressing on the chrysanthemum salad was out of hand. The cabbage, delectable and the yolk sauce almost made me cry it was so good. The bites were great! I had a couple of good cocktails too.

Heard great things about The Pig and The Lady but coming here on a busy night might've been a miss. We ordered the 75 Pho Dac Biet and Vegan Pho and the food was decent, but nowhere near the authenticity of other Vietnamese restaurants (especially for that price range). The fried green beans appetizer was underwhelming, we got maybe 7-8 pieces of green beans and the rest was cabbage and mint. Our service was extremely late, we had to wait 30 minutes before our first appetizer came and then another 15 minutes before our entree came, we arrived at 7:00pm and left th restaurant at 9:00pm (we didn't have an appointment). The staff were really nice and the ambiance was modern and had moments of heritage, but the steep prices and long wait times overshadowed everything else, not sure if I'd return.

Through our Honolulu dining nights, this modern vietnamese restaurant was one of the best and not overhyped! The dishes we tried were all flavorful and deeply satisfying, The soft serve at the end was even delightful. Contemporary atmosphere yet cozy, and energetic vibe. Would like to come back again.

Liliha Bakery, a beloved establishment since 1950, is renowned for its delectable breakfast offerings and comforting dishes. The bakery prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients and crafting all their baked goods from scratch. With its original location on Honolulu's N. Kuakini St., the bakery has expanded to two additional locations due to its immense popularity.
Great Authentic Hawaiian food! Lots of options! Good service! We were a family of 20, and we were treated like family. Will definitely come back!

Stay away from this place unless you truly have no other options but it is not worth your money ‼️ We were seated by a very nice waiter who took our order, and that was it! We couldn’t find him afterward, and if you try asking any other waiter for help, they won’t respond because they’re “not assigned” to your area. Imagine this: I needed a fork and knife. I saw some near the kitchen and noticed a waiter standing right next to them. I politely asked if he could hand them to me, and he said, “No, I can’t. You need to ask your waiter for that.” I waited another 5 minutes, but our waiter still didn’t show up. Eventually, I went and grabbed them myself from the other side. Our order was sitting right in front of us (we were seated near the kitchen) for at least 10 minutes before anyone brought it over only after I pointed it out to the waiter! The burger was tiny, and the service was horrible. On top of that, I ordered my steak well-done, but because the restaurant was busy, they served it medium-well instead. That was a Monday, I can’t imagine how the weekend would look like. Never going back again‼️

Stopped in to pick up a few sweet treats and loved them! They have a fantastic array of baked goods, from your standard donuts and muffins to croissants and danishes. However, some unique options I recommend trying are the mochi donuts and my personal favorite, the coco puff. It’s a puffed pastry with cold chocolate cream in the middle and your choice of topping ex coconut, green tea, etc. While I didn’t take advantage of the diner side, there is a counter where you can sit and eat a regular meal. There’s plenty of parking outside as well.
Isabel Y — Google review
Fantastic staffing and amazing food in terms of quality and price! They have a funny table back in the bakery kitchen that is so clean and very fun to experience. All of this made us come here twice during our 4-day trip!
Omid K — Google review
This is the original location that started it all. ATMOSPHERE: Parking is pretty plentiful. It's a simple and bustling bakery along with a long dining counter which seats about 20 or so. There was a line of about 10 people ahead of us. Turn over was pretty quick as we sat in about 20 minutes. Reservations are not taken. You get an up front seat of the food being made. MENU: It's a mix of local and American diner fare, and of course the bakery with all kinds of things. FOOD: Butter Rolls House rolls these days are a rarity! Sinfully buttery and moist, the included sweet dipping sauce isn't necessary. Hamburger Steak While it's a very mainstream dish, the highlight was the taste of the homemade patty. It had a nice crust to it and had a great grilled flavor. The gravy was light brown and mildly salty. The mac salad was very good. The entrees normally come with sides of a butter roll and rice, or you can opt for all rice which I did. Luckily my friend did not eat all of her butter roll so I got to try some and it was delish! Hotcake The single piece was big, delicious and creamy. SERVICE: The ladies who work behind the counter all multi-task - cook/serve/bus/cashier and all were so friendly, patient, professional, and helped each other out. OVERALL: Good food, average prices, friendly service.

Great bakery and diner, got the loco moco, and the macnut waffle, both were really delicious. The loco moco had that Smokey taste from the grill, and the macnut waffle was light and crispy, the butter that came with it was very flavorful. Also ordered some pastries. Service was good, the place gives you an old diner.

I love this bakery! Lots of parking, service was a promt, this place can get busy, they have overflow tables in the kitchen! So you can actually see all the desserts being made! Pretty cool! Ambiance is slightly on the noisy side but still able to hold conversation! I've been here several times and the food is nothing short of amazing! Ordered: Butter rolls - 10/10 perfectly grilled nice and crispy! So good I crave it. MacNut Waffles with fruit - 10/10 perfectly cooked, nice and crispy has a nice bite! No need for syrup cause the macadamia sweetens it naturally! Fruit and whip cream were a nice added touch ! Steak and eggs 10/10 cooked to perfection! I opted to upgrade from regular rice to fried rice; fried rice was great! Cheese burger deluxe 10/10 so satisfying the patty was cooked ourfectoy and had a nice char to it, It was so good I didn't take a picture! Buns were nice and toasted well, their potato crisps are nice circle potatoe with a nice width very different but paired well with the burger! Perfectly seasoned too! Loco moco with egg 10/10 the gravy was bomb, about of rice was great! Nice char burger meat, perfectly seasoned ! Perfect plate, and would definitely order again! Coffee - 10/10 free refills, great bold coffee! Desserts: Cream puff, coco puff, matcha puff - 10/10 they are known for it! It's perfect and not as sweet as other places! All desserts are made in house, which I appreciate it! Quality food and desserts! Highly recommend this place!

It was okay. We bought quite a bit of stuff and everything was just meh. I bought some brioche dinner rolls and some brioche hamburger buns. Both of those are okay. Nothing spectacular. Also ordered a blueberry cream cheese cake. We shared that with a bunch of different people and they all felt that it was subpar. Also ordered a coconut lemon cake which was also just okay. Nothing spectacular. We had some oatmeal raisin chocolate cookies. Those were just okay as well. They had these cream puffs which were quite delicious. I would get those again. Or maybe try some other things.

Zippy's Makiki is a Hawaiian casual dining chain that has been satisfying locals with its focus on regional cuisine since 1966. The restaurant is known for its stews, chili, and comfort-food dishes. One of the most popular entrees at Zippy's is the fried chicken plate, which features three pieces of juicy fried chicken served with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad.
Was recommended by a friend and we loved the place. Great menu of local favorites and mainland food choices. Friendly staff, and good value. A local place not so popular with tourists.
Andrew F — Google review
It’s Zippy’s, how can you go wrong. Hard to beat Hawaiian comfort food. We ate brunch here on a Sunday morning, this location has both a sit down restaurant and the fast food takeout side. The menu options are nearly endless, so everyone can find something to enjoy. Our server was outstanding, was gracious enough to take the time to walk us through many of his favorites.
Dennis P — Google review
I’ve eaten my way through white tablecloths and tasting menus more times than I can count. But when I need a break from the precious, plated, four-bite masterpieces, I come here—Zippy’s. No reservations. No dress code. Just the kind of food that fills your stomach and your soul. I crave the oxtail soup. The fried chicken is crispy, salty, perfect. I love it. I love it all. The chili, the spaghetti with garlic bread, and the chili loco moco, which is outrageously good. I’m talking about a full-on, pig-out session. The food’s always hot, always fast, and always hits the spot. Next time, I might ask for a side of loco moco gravy just to make it extra messy. 10/10.
Winston C — Google review
I highly recommend you order online or through the Zippy's app. Walking to the takeout side to order and wait for your food is exceptionally long, especially at dinner. It's much easier to order through the app and, when it's ready, grab it from the locker. Thursday night, it seemed chill, with not too many people ordering or waiting for food. However, online orders were queued in between the person in front of me and my own. I counted eight other online or app orders before I finally got my food. It was very frustrating. As for the food, Zippy's is a local staple that has been around for generations. There are many classics on their menu, and I got two of them: a Zip Pac, but I replaced the teri beef with hoki. I also got an apple napple for dessert.
Ryan Y — Google review
We are visiting the Island from Texas. Liza was absolutely awesome. She made us feel at home and when she found out it was our first time eating at Zippy’s she gave us a warm welcome and told us all about the menu and the great people that worked there. The food was super delicious. Great workers are a reflection of the great management team like Ivan and Joe. Great job Team. We will see you again Liza…and thanks again for making feel like regulars…like everyone knew our name. 👍🏻❤️🙏

Best place to go for a quick dinner. Love the new way of picking up your food via locker when ordering online. Great service. Nice comfy place to dine in as well. Hubby always get an entree and an order of chili’s on the side. Great selection for dessert.
Ami ( — Google review
Good neighborhood spot to get some Hawaiian classics on the fly. We tried the spam and eggs and the loco love. Both were delicious and got the spot! The interior of this location was a little dated and rundown but the food was good. The service was confusing because there was no clear spot where to order and they were taking orders from people behind us in line. We ate on the fast food side before realizing there was a seated dining area in the back. Service may be better on that side.

Ray's Cafe is a charming and compact eatery located in the heart of Kalihi, Honolulu. Despite its unassuming appearance, this restaurant offers hearty portions of prime rib and other comfort food in a low-key setting. It is known for its all-American brunch and breakfast options, making it a great spot for families to enjoy a delicious meal together. The cafe specializes in serving huge portions of meaty breakfast plates, making it an ideal destination for those craving a substantial morning meal.
I found this place through scrolling Reddit (thanks to the Redditor who suggested this place for Prime Ribs). Definitely not known to the mainstream Chinese and Japanese tourists yet so will try to keep it that way. This is a hole in the wall type of place. The food is amazing, prices are good value and the place is extremely hectic. There is no AC in the cafe so it is really hot in there. Prime Ribs are only available on Fri and weekends only. Do call before going to confirm and you can place phone orders before reaching the place.

I ordered roast pork with gravy for $10 tax included and "WOW" they gave so much. It was good but I could not eat it all so I took the leftover for my dinner. The workers are very friendly and helpful. This is a nostalgic place with many memories, a hole in the wall "GEM."
Sang M — Google review
Cozy little café with friendly vibes. The owner and staff were welcoming, giving the place a familiar neighborhood feel as the owner chatted with customers. Service was a bit slow, but I was here for the prime rib. For $27, you can’t beat the value. The steak was cooked to the right temperature and came with rice and a side salad. Worth the wait.
V N — Google review
They haven’t been screwing up my food lately which is good lol ! I still come for the prime rib …but my new go to is oxtail stew which they have every Friday. You won’t find that much oxtail for that price any where on island. The prime rib with king crab kind of isn’t worth it anymore. If you going be that much for prime rib and king crab just go buffet.

Cute little small local eatery. Cash only!! Sign sez “ Door Open - OPEN Door Closed - CLOSED “ Omgeee the Pork Chops was huuuggeee! I opted for the bacon / eggs over easy, 2 cute scoops rice, cute size white toast with butter and a side of bacon! Who eats just bacon without bacon onto it off. Put soMê Tabasco in those over easy eggs, shoYu on da rice and it went down!! So if you’re driving by and see the Door open, pull into the parallel parking stalls and have a meal within!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥 Winnah winnahs Bacon n Eggs!! Just let u know, there is a wait time in your delicious food- so no need to a rush!! Thank you

My partner recommended we'd check this spot out and it was amazing! Hole in the wall spot with a few tables there, but it seems like most people go there for takeout or party orders. We were seated quickly and had our orders taken in that time (we knew what we came in for). The aunty that seated us came back right away with water and tossed salad. Our food came out a few moments later and it was great! The prime rib was so soft and seasoned nicely, the au jus that it came with was perfect. Not salty at all and went well with the meat. The rack of lamb with asparagus was soft as well, and was still soft after we took our leftovers home. At the restaurant, another guy from the back came out with custard pie and even that was great too! Not too sweet, but light and fluffy! The owner made some small talk with us as he recognized we were not regulars and he was really nice. Turns out we don't live that far from each other! Overall a great experience and will definitely be back

Ray,s is my favorite place to eat. There my friends and family. If you like talk old times story,s and good local food. And hole in the wall places. Ray's is the place.
Monkeyman ( — Google review
Edit: we ordered over the phone to pick up some hours later. When we arrived to pick up, they were closing up for the day before their closing time. They started preparing our food immediately but they didn't give us asparagus which was supposed to come with and I was looking forward to. Same price as usual. Very frustrated. What's the point of taking order? Reduced the star. Someone recommended this place to us as best prime rib place. I believe that recommendation is accurate! Had lamb as well and both were great. Meat was flavourful and tender. They (or one of them?) came with mac salad. We shall go back there again!

Kalihi's Pancakes & Waffles is a diner that specializes in breakfast classics and local favorites. It has 4.6 stars based on 172 reviews, making it a popular spot for hungry diners. Its items are usually well priced and tasty, but its eggs Benedict isn't their best dish. Be sure to leave a tip!
Get their fried rice loco moco and thank me later!!! It's hands down one of the best loco mocos I've had! Oh yes I still have leftovers in my fridge! Why did I like it? Coz it's just pure umami in every bite, so good that my hubs who's usually into sweet stuff for breakfast said he would order my dish next time we're here. The over easy egg was cooked perfectly. The gravy was flavorful without being too salty. The burger patty wasn't too greasy but still had a lot of flavor. And omg the fried rice. I don't know why they put in there. It's just heaven for every single bite. Definitely do the fried rice and not the plain white rice. We also got the apple caramel pancakes. It's like apple pie pancakes and it's perfect if you like that apple pie flavor. I enjoyed it especially their pancakes tasted buttery and soft. Also got the clam chowder. Great flavor but not sure why it's slightly yellowish. Maybe the broth they use? It's a way better value to get their bowl versus their cup. They also put a lot of clams in there! Service was prompt and friendly given that they had signs out asking customers to be patient as they're understaffed, like many other restaurants. We paid for our food at the counter, took a number and sat down at a booth. Our server brought the right utensils including a spoon for my bowl of clam chowder. Prices were very reasonable too. I would totally come back for some more food!

Went here for breakfast on the way to Pearl Harbor. It is located in a strip mall so the ambiance is nothing to write home about. They had a good menu and the service was friendly and accommodating. I asked about purchasing a shirt (I liked the T-shirts they were wearing as part of their uniform). They didn’t have any my size but when they brought our food out they had called their other locations and confirmed that they did have my size in stock. I had a waffle and it was a solid choice for breakfast. If you are looking for a place that the locals go to for breakfast and want fast friendly service then this is a good choice
Mike K — Google review
Another hidden gem in Kalihi. If you want a breakfast that's so good, it breaks your mouth, this is your place. This is what a small local dinner is supposed to be like, friendly, clean with great food that tastes homemade. When you come here remember they are short staffed so exercise some patience. Also, they do not accept cash, credit card only. Please, stop by and help this place survive.

Wow, what a great find! On our way to the airport decided to get some brunch and found this awesome spot. The chicken and waffles drew me in! Great crispy chicken with delicious waffles- and the serving was huge, definitely enough to share! Kid 1 got the banana pancakes stack of 3 (you choose 1, 3, or 5) She was only able to chomp 2. I took a bite, pancakes are so fluffy and just enough sweetness with the banana Kid 2 got the strawberry waffle, cute with all the whipped cream, definitely more than enough for a kid. Hubby had the French toast with sausage and eggs. Place was clean with plenty of tables around 11am, but soon after the line was out the door- many were to go orders. Warning, restrooms are in the complex across and cashier will give you the key to open. Overall, great food, generous servings, and happy family ready to board our flight back home 🤙

I was craving chicken and waffles, so I decided to check this place out. I got there around 11 a.m., not busy at all. Took a few minutes to be acknowledged by the cashier (there are 2 of them), so I had ample time to look at the menu. Took a little longer again for the cashier to take my order. Here, you basically order with the cashier. They give you a number to place on your table. When your food is ready, someone else brings the food to your table. I ordered chicken and waffles with country gravy, side of eggs. Waffles were ok. Nothing exciting. I couldn't wait to take a bite of the chicken. Well, ...turns out I could. I could wait to cook my own chicken and waffles. It was like they cooked it yesterday and left it under the heating lamp. From the texture and battered, it was not crispy at all. Beyond disappointed. The country gravy had no flavor at all. The eggs were the only thing that tasted fresh and good. The place has a great variety of other options on their menu. The guy sitting next to me had fried rice and eggs. His look good. He ate it all. So, not everything is a disappointment here. I suggested you guys come try it for yourself. Form your own opinion. Support local business.

What can I say…it just wasn’t good. My husband tried the French toast combo with a side of bacon. The bacon was so incredibly undercooked it felt like the poor animal was still breathing! My daughter and I were excited to try the chicken and waffles but it tasted as unappealing as it looked. She ordered a side of potatoes, which were also undercooked and bland with absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. To top it all off, we received no eating utensils and had to go to the hotel kitchen to actually request some so that we could eat. Very bad experience all around.

Restaurant XO, situated on Waialae Ave., is an upscale Asian fusion eatery known for its innovative and delectable dishes. The menu features creative and modern cuisine crafted from fresh, local ingredients, with options for vegans, vegetarians, and those with food allergies. Notable dishes include pork belly, fois gras crispy rice, oxtail dumplings with fried chicken or oxtail truffle soup, crispy chicken, and miyosaki roasted cauliflower.
The food was beyond words!! EVERYTHING was awesome!! The pad thai was my personal favorite, full of flavor! If you’re not a fan of spice, make sure to ask for them to dilute the spice a bit (it helps!!). The buttermilk fried chicken was excellent. The mochi samples were great, my favorite being the chocolate, but all of them were surprisingly really good!! AMAZING service. Our server, Derek, was so polite and friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable. The dishes have fun food flavors that play with your taste buds! Overall, this is a very unique and underrated restaurant that I would recommend to any vacationers or locals!!

So yummy, each course a flavor bomb! Good price! Went here for dinner with my husband, ordered the 7 course set menu and added the +$10 lamb add-on. Every course was yummy and full of flavor. The main ingredients (chicken, lamb, pork belly, etc) of each dish were high-quality and well prepared. But what makes this dinner really special are the unique sauces that flavor each plate. My favorites: the “Miso Sesame Vin” sauce on the sashimi, and the “Shellfish Beurre Monte” sauce on the shrimp. My husband, not at all a veggie lover, even loved the Beet Lotus course (as did I). For sugar-lovers, recommend adding the ice cream pie. This was like a super high end-carvel ice cream cake with crunchy cookie crumbles and rich rum-chocolate sauce. The coffee ice cream was just the right amount of bitter. (Sous chef recommended combining bites of the bunny dessert with this ice cream, great advice!) The courses are very reasonable in size, especially for the price and quality. We had leftovers. The restaurant was not crowded for a Saturday night (guessing because we went late the day before Easter), so The Sous Chef had time to come out and tell us about how the menu was cultivated. His passion for food was obvious. The line cooks here are also the servers, so whoever brought the food to the table was able to answer any questions we might have about ingredients, etc. We will certainly come here again if we can.

Food was delicious and unique. Drinks were good too. Server was attentive and knowledgeable. Some of the best fried chicken I've had which I did not expect. My girlfriend loved the beet lotus.

I’m blown away by XO. The quality of this price fixe menu was unbelievable, especially for the price. Every dish had so much attention to detail, flavor, and was generously portioned. The staff is attentive, informative, and hard working. We’ll definitely be coming back!

I’ve always wanted to go to XO due to their excellent Instagram posts. Since we had a visitor here from the mainland, it was the perfect opportunity to check it out. We were able to get street parking relatively easy on an early Thursday evening. I imagine it would be difficult on a weekend. We were promptly welcomed and seated seated by Derek. Turns out that not only was Derek the host for the evening, he was also our server bartender, sous chef, dessert maker and busboy. He was excellent in every role he played, taking the time necessary to explain everything about the restaurant, their philosophies, and their food offering. All of his efforts were greatly appreciated and added greatly to the evening. The food was not cheap, but it was all very good. Do expect to pay roughly $100 per person if you are also drinking alcohol. All in all, my family would definitely visit XO again, and I think you should too.

One of the best tasting menu values I have ever had, for $65/person it is crazy good value, great portion sizes, you wont leave hungry
Michael M — Google review
The food was great, with a couple standout dishes in the hamachi crudo, vegetable plate, and brown butter bunny butter mochi. They offered some of the most unique flavor combinations that I've had in a while, which is saying a lot because I've had my fair share of Asian fusion food and prix fixe menus - an especially at a pretty unbeatable price. My husband and I got the supplemental lamb, but the portions were large enough that we both would have been full without it. Service was also amazing! Our waiter was so kind and thoughtful, and the different courses came out quickly once the previous course was finished. They did a great job explaining what each course was as well as how best to enjoy them. In combination with the intimate ambiance and cozy restaurant setting, it made for a very enjoyable meal experience. Including a photo of the brown butter bunny butter mochi because it was SO cute.

Pub
J. Dolans, formerly known as JJ Dolans, is a lively Irish-themed pub located in Downtown Oahu that has gained a reputation for serving delicious New York-style pizza. The hand-tossed dough, possibly infused with Guinness, and the use of fresh produce for toppings contribute to the high quality of their pies.
We were downtown looking for somewhere to have lunch and came across J Dolans. I have walked by many times and never went in; today was the day. As soon as I stepped in I was transported back to a neighborhood Boston bar. We sat at the bar and ordered Margarita Pizza which was good size and very flavorful, the crust was crunchy and light. The Jalepeno poppers and onions rings were definitely NOT frozen and were excellent! Service was great! Will definitely be back and recommend!

Nora G — Google review
Incredibly delicious pie! I wanted something different from all the heavy Hawaiian food we were consuming on vacation. As delicious as they were, I just needed variety and J. Dolan answered the call. The fresh spinach and chopped garlic pizza was the perfect choice. The light flavors of the ricotta and spinach went well with the savory garlic and incredible crust. Surprisingly, as much as I wanted to avoid feeling heavy….we finished the pizza. It was impossible not to. After the first slice, we couldn’t put down our food and we kept digging for more. At least we didn’t order another one because it was definitely considered. So at least I got variety, but my lack of self control continued the trend of feeling heavy…but who cares? We’re on vacay!
Alanglen49 — Google review
Had lunch at J. Dolan's and was seriously impressed! The pizza here is hands down some of the best I’ve ever had, perfectly crisp crust, fresh toppings, and just the right amount of cheese and sauce. The vibe is great too a relaxed bar setting with friendly service and a solid drink selection

One of the best places on Oahu to get New England style pizza. They have great wings , fries and service . This spot has a great old school feel , like your in an old pub. Parking is abundant but you have to pay. Many parking structures

We stopped by the spot after an afternoon at the Hawaiian theater, and it was delicious! We created our own pizza with all the meats, and it exceeded expectations. The salad was also good, especially with their tasty dressing. The wings were okay, not much variety. The only downside was a bit of a wait during busy times, but overall, it was worth it for the tasty pizza.

Horrible experience. My partner and I had a poke bowl there yesterday at noon, and we’ve been suffering ever since—non-stop vomiting, diarrhea, completely stuck in the bathroom for 24 hours. They claim their fish is ‘fresh, caught daily,’ but given this food poisoning nightmare, I seriously doubt it. On top of that, the service was terrible. Never again!

Always a good time to stop and shop! Get there earlier in the day if you want to have a good selection of fresh poke. The furikake pork rinds are great to add to the basket with fresh poke as well. Good bakery. Always a good selection of local fruit options. They have everything you may need and then some.

The place is not designed for sit-down dining but has a couple of chairs at a ledge counter. My husband is in Hawaii for business right now and has been trying all of the local spots. Yesterday he went to this restaurant for lunch. He said the restaurant was clean and well kept, and was very busy. The staff was nice and his server did a good job. My husband loves spicy food and fried chicken, and he said his meal was a great combination of both! It was a lot of food for only $20! He said he would definitely be back before he leaves Hawaii to try some other stuff on their menu. If you like spicy food, large portions, and fried chicken, you definitely want to check this place out.

A hidden gem! I had time to kill while the wife had oral surgery so I went to Vons for lunch. The woman working the counter was very friendly and even the people picking up ‘to go’ orders were telling what their favorite menu items where. I walk or bike by this place on my way to work several times a week. Every time I have to resist the urge to stop in -- it's that good. I've tried their garlic chicken and spicy fried wings. Expect to wait 15-20 minutes, since its always made to order. The foods crispy and perfectly prepped. I recommend this place on your cheat day!

I went to pick up three Uber Eats orders. On the counter, there were only my three orders, and I clearly stated the exact contents of each one. However, the staff refused to give them to me unless I showed them the app. Since it’s very difficult to park in front of the store, I had to go back to the car and get the phone from my friend before I could collect the orders. It was a very unpleasant experience. Compared to other stores where I can pick up orders within a minute, this was really frustrating—especially considering there’s no parking space at this location. The staff didn’t do anything wrong, but the experience just felt awful.

Ramen restaurant
Menchanko-Tei is a small family restaurant in Honolulu that offers a low-key atmosphere and delicious comfort food. The tan-tan men and tonkatsu are highly recommended, with the pork cutlet being juicy and crispy. Visitors have centered their trips around this restaurant due to its enjoyable food, particularly the Motsu Nabe, which is considered the best in the United States. It's praised for offering simple yet satisfying meals that stand out from gourmet options.
Excellent, low-key atmosphere. We came here on the recommendation of a local friend. The tan-tan men was earthy and noodles were springy and delicious. The tonkatsu was excellently prepared with cabbage, cabbage dressing, a very flavorful miso, and grind your own sesame for the katsu sauce (which was served cold, a new one for me). The pork cutlet was juicy and the batter crispy and light. The cutlet was a little thicker than I like, but delicious still. The staff was very friendly. I recommend this restaurant and would come again!
Jesse Y — Google review
A slice of Japan here at home! We've come here for ramen and Tonkatsu and I must say, we were not disappointed! Their Tan Tan ramen is my absolute favorite on the island. It's rich, tasty, slightly sweet, and not too salty. Tan tan can get strong at other places but Menchanko Tei does it perfectly. The meat is so soft and so damn flavorful in every bite. They use Sun noodles and it is so complimentary to Tan Tan. It picks up the soup so well with every slurp but slides off so perfectly as it hits your tongue. Amazing Tan Tan. Then we had the Loin Katsu lunch special which came with both Tonkatsu AND mini Shoyu ramen. Holy guacamole!! It was so much food and so delicious. The Tonkatsu was crunchy and tender. It wasn't as flaky as I have had before but the crunch was perfect against the juicy pork. The mini Shoyu Ramen just put us over the top. The base was a simple shoyu but had a great umami flavor. Maybe more konbu or something but it was very impressive as a mini ramen. Price for the Tan Tan is about $13-14, which is on the higher side but gosh dang, it's so worth it. Price for the lunch special was only $22! Considering how much food we got, it is WELL justified and worth the taste. Parking is in the back if you turn near the Chinese Seafood restaurant towards the intersection of King and Keeamoku. Or you can park in the street but make sure you park during allowed hours and you have to pay for the meter.

What a hidden gem in Honolulu (Thanks to Google Map). Delicious Japanese food at very good price. Friendly staff and great service. Highly recommend this restaurant for others. We will definitely revisit this place next time we come back.

Ramen holds the same place for me as Fried Chicken, Loco Moco, and Spam Musubi... Comfort Food. It’s NOT supposed to be gourmet or fine dining... it’s a delicious and flavorful meal that is simple and satisfying. As I have watched some of my “hole-in-the-wall” ramen shops close down and Gourmet Bistro shops open up, I had lost hope that I could find me a good bowl of noodles (& hell no, that packaged stuff we get in the grocery store doesn’t count... well, maybe except for the S&S packs). So, a long story longer, I visited Menchako when it was in Waikiki back when. When i stopped working in Waikiki, I found Goma-Ichi on Keeaumoku. Then, Goma-Ichi gets crumbled by whatever crazy $10 million dollar condo being built and again I am without a good bowl of noodles. Randomly, looking at this location which, ironically was another noodle shop years ago when I lived i this neighborhood, I see a familiar name. Came in... saw the owner who I recognized... and was ready for a katsu combo that I knew them for. To my greatest delight, within their current menu, was listed Goma-Ichi TanTan Ramen. Yes, she was friends with the owner and was given the recipe which she now continues to serve in their honor. Great food. Service with an authentic smile. What you need after a long day at work so you can go home with that warm feeling in your belly.

It's too bad that this place is closing on January 16, 2022. We enjoyed the tonkatsu a lot. The lunch specials are a great deal. Here are photos of the Nanban Fried Chicken. My niece had her chicken with the ramen as a set. The presentation is beautiful and the service is so polite and efficient!

My absolute favorite place to eat in Honolulu. They don’t have many places like this in California or the United States in general. A small family restaurant with the absolutely the best Motsu Nabe in the United States. I have scoured the Bay Area for this dish and have not found anything comparable. They also have delicious katsu (chicken as well as the famous korubata pork). I centered my visit to Hawaii around this restaurant. That’s how enjoyable the food is here. A must go!!

Tucked away next to a laundromat on Nuuanu Avenue, Sam's Delicatessen is a casual counter-serve spot that offers a mix of Korean favorites and a build-your-own mini buffet. Despite its unassuming location, this small local Korean barbecue is known for serving some of the best fried chicken wings on the island. While the staff may sometimes come across as pushy, the food speaks for itself.
Today I got to try their Yook Gae Jang, Hot Beef Soup, and it turned out good. The worker, seemed like an owner, was very nice.

One of the food ordered was the tofu soup. Numerous times, we asked that the soup not be spicy or mild when we ordered. Upon tasting it at home, it WAS spicy (mild). This wouldn't be a problem if I was the one eating it but food was meant for someone who can't consume spicy foods. Aside from that, the food portion was very disappointing. Meat jun was decently sized but the fish Jun was extremely thin with only 4 pieces. A lot has changed in the past decade as far as pricing and food portions that this restraunt had to offer. We'll never come back here again.

It was ok. Got a mochiko chicken plate since a lot of people seem to have good things to say about it. It was pretty average. The portion size was decent for the price, but the taste wasn’t very memorable. The sides were as expected, except for the kimchee. It was very watery tasting. I tried my friend’s meat jun and that one tasted pretty good. If I ever return again, I would get the meat jun.

I'm all about supporting local, but the attitude and the my way or the highway does not deserve support. I'd rather support a lower quality international conglomerate then continue to help this place stay in business. Debating with them is pointless because they're just right. I phone ordered and told them I'd make my choices when I got there. I have done this multiple times. I also do not order rice with my plate since I prefer the veggies. I came in and said I didn't want rice and just veggies. She said she already put the rice in. I asked, can you just take it out? Nope. That 50 cent of rice is in there, you should have told me on the phone you didn't want rice. I've called in over a dozen times in the last year stating that I'll make my picks when I get there. I've had other issues with them but this took the cake for me. My plate is $20. You can't take the rice out and put something else? I'm not even asking for that really, I'm asking for consistency that they let me choose rice when I got there from before. I've been going here for over 15 years. Attitude does not deserve support. Thanks for all the rice that I will throw away.

Ordered the Sam's special bento with fried noodles. Their food is so tasty but 2 of my bento's had gnats flying around trapped inside the bento box, which is kinda gross. It freaked me out but then my better half pointed out the fact that when we are cutting up fruit say, those gnats come around quickly and land on our stuff all the time. Moral of the story is this kind of things happen, but maybe they could take a better look at things before they seal the boxes. Like I said, the food was delicious in spite of my initial ick factor. I will go back for sure. Their prices have increased a bit more than I was expecting but then again, whose prices haven't. Great flavor profiles and generous portions.

Yi Xin Cafe is a charming Hong Kong-style eatery nestled in Market City, offering a fusion of Cantonese flavors with an innovative twist. One of their standout dishes is the unique combination of shrimp paste and chicken wings, creating a delightful surprise for the taste buds. The menu boasts an array of delectable options to cater to various preferences. From crispy Masala french fries to savory salted egg yolk chicken wings, each dish promises a burst of distinct and satisfying flavors.
If you're looking for authentic Chinese cuisine with bold, unforgettable flavors, Yi Xin Cafe is where you need to be. Hands down, this is the best Chinese food on Oahu, and I can't stop thinking about the incredibly amazing meal we had here. First, the food. Every dish was bursting with flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. The showstopper for me always? Their Sizzling Black Bean Beef. As soon as it arrived, that incredible aroma of savory black bean sauce and tender beef sizzling on the hot plate filled the air. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, coated in a sauce so flavorful it's hard to put into words. The caramelized onions and crisp vegetables added a perfect texture to balance the richness. It's the kind of dish that steals the show and has you dreaming about your next visit. But the real game-changer? Their chef's special menu. It takes everything you love about Chinese food and elevates it to another level. You can tell every dish is made with passion and precision. Their Salted Fish Chicken Eggplant is a savory masterpiece, rich and perfectly balanced. The Szechuan Spicy JJ Chicken Pot packs a punch with just the right amount of heat and complexity in every bite. And let me tell you, their Honey Walnut Shrimp? Pure perfection--crispy, creamy, and just sweet enough to keep you coming back for more. Even their classy Pickled Radish was an excellent standout-refreshing and the perfect palate cleanser between bites. Beyond the food, the service here was just as amazing. The staff made us feel so welcome and consistently checked in to make sure everything was perfect. Whether it was topping off our tea (and water) or asking how the meal was, they were attentive without being overbearing. It's that kind of care and hospitality that makes a meal here not just a dining experience but something truly memorable. Yi Xin Cafe is an absolute gem, and I honestly can't recommend it enough. If you haven't been, you're seriously missing out. Do yourself a favor--go, bring your friends and family, and prepare to be blown away!

Yi Xin Cafe serves up bold and flavorful singaporean dishes. From omelets, to rice bowls, and fried chicken, each dish has a unique flavor identity and texture while enjoying how fresh tasting it is. A must try and a good place for groups.

First time here. I wanted to try something different. I got the Singapore chow fun and it was really good but a bit oily for me. The flavor was good, forgot to let them know no onion 🧅 so I had to pick it out and had 4 1/2 shrimp on my plate. Hubby got the shrimp curry and said it was good. He had 7 shrimp on his plate. Next time I think I will try something else with rice. Service was good. The waiter put in the wrong order for me so he made the correction right away. Plenty of tables for dine in. Recommend to make reservation when coming here. It gets pretty busy during dinner time and very loud.

Second update: so we’ve returned for the second time this week with more friends from mainland. Everyone in our party had a great time and enjoyed the food here. The bitter Mellon with egg and salted egg chicken wings were the big hits. The laoganma (老干妈)fried rice was good as well. The service was excellent as usual. Update: we came back a week later and tried a few more dishes: pork cheeks, Chinese broccoli (gailan 芥蘭) and hand made wanton noodle. All three were excellent, in particular the cheeks that were both fatty and tender, just the way it should be. The gailan was fresh and crispy. And the wanton noodles was very traditional. The service was prompt and friendly. Definitely highly recommended. We came to Market City Shopping Center for the third straight day to try another new restaurant. This time we opted for Kowlong/Hong Kong cafe style restaurant. We used to find this type of eateries all over Southern California 20 years ago, but over the years they were replaced with the spicier restaurants from Mainland China. So we were glad to find this cafe so close to Waikiki and wanted to see if it comes close to what we had before. Good thing we weren’t disappointed. Like all other places in this strip mall, the seating area was small, but comfortable. The service was very friendly and very fast. We tried the beef & egg over rice and stirred fried water spinach (空心菜) with fermented tofu & jalapeño. The veggie was fresh and tasted just right and the beef/egg over rice was flavorful. We will have to try other dishes on our next visit soon.

I'm always satisfied when I dine at Yi Xin Cafe. The Pork Chop Omelette on Rice with Ginger Sauce has been one of my favorites since it was first introduced on the menu. My usual is the Hong Kong-style beef Fried Rice and beef chow funn. I was also in the mood for their delicious Thai-style pork Chops.

咸蛋黄鸡翼 Salted egg yolk chicken wings 💯👌🏻 Dishes I had are on par with pai dong dishes in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Queuing and elders chatting in Cantonese next to you are always good signs. Friendly staff and good service. Definitely worth a visit.

Yeah good stuff gotta eat this place whenever you come to Oahu, the curry is so good every table orders one, fish and veg all very tasty!

I'm back home for a couple of weeks, visiting friends and family, and this place was on my "must try before leaving" list. We surprisingly got there at a good time, it was packed (No surprise though, as it was a Friday evening), we were fourth on the waiting list, but a bunch of tables had just finished, so we only waited about 10-15 min. We ordered the milk tea with the frozen bear, it was really good, not too sweet, and so cute. Also, they're BYOB so while we were waiting for a table, my friend ran next door to Foodland to get a beer. Our apps and main entrees were coming out in good timing, even with them being a full house. We really enjoyed every dish that we had. I think my favorite would have to be the salted egg yolk chicken wings, the flavor was delicious, and the crunch; chef's kiss. It's all family style so we shared 2 apps and 4 main dishes, as for how delicious it all was and wanted to eat it all, we had to take home. Service was good, they're fast and friendly, and had a couple of different staff check on us, I really like how they just help each other out and check on their customers regardless if it's "their table". I will definitely be coming back when I visit again. They have a special menu but it requires a day in advance ordering, and a lot of it sounds so good, definitely wanna try some of those dishes. Next time!

Sakana Grill is a local sports bar and restaurant known for its amazing fried chicken, tongkatsu, and sakana fries. The chef's background at Hanagasa Inn ensures top-notch quality. It's a hidden gem with world-class service and the chance to meet the owner. The Okinawan bar offers delicious food and a friendly atmosphere, making it popular among locals and visitors alike.
Dropped in for an early dinner and had some really tasty fried chicken, poke, and Okinawan stir fried eggplant (Nasubi Chanpuru). Atmosphere inside is like a chill sports bar, and the service was great, super friendly!

Great local sports bar and restaurant. Fried chicken and tongkatsu were amazing. Orders are enough for two or three people. You also have to try the sakana fries....amazing. Staff are so nice and service with a smile. Parking is good and plenty. If coming on weekends try to make a reservation.

After dropping a package off at the airport I was looking for dinner and to wait out the traffic. This place got great reviews, and I’m so glad I stopped by. It’s a sports bar, but has a welcoming feel. The staff are super kind. It was the first time I’ve tried tofu champuru and it was delicious! Highly recommend.

Cha chaan teng (Hong Kong-style cafe)
Chinese restaurant
HK CAFE 茶記 offers a simple yet flavorful approach to their house special wings, using a brine, dry, and deep-fry method that locks in the savory soy sauce flavor while delivering a thin crispiness on the outside. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing, with dishes like pork fried rice and chicken wings being highly recommended. The HK French toast and milk tea are also noteworthy for their unique flavors.
A throwback from the bygone days of small cafes in Hong Kong. The menu is quite typical and the food was very tasty. We had the beef briskets & tendon over rice and ginger onion lomein. The briskets and tendons were some of the tenderest I ever had and was right on point. The lomein was quite good as well. The food came out quickly and the sitting area was comfortable and not cramped as in old Hong Kong. It’s getting harder and harder to find a non-Pho restaurant in Chinatown and this is a good one if you are tired of Phos.
Big C — Google review
I'm from Hong Kong and the food + atmosphere here was pretty authentic. The waitress spoke fluent Cantonese and Mandarin and there was a TV playing the TVB channel from Hong Kong. They seemed understaffed though and had to turn away some other customers while we were eating. Iced Hong Kong milk tea was good, not too sweet. I got omelette rice with satay sauce, shrimp and char siu. The satay sauce had lots of peanuts in it and went well with the ingredients. The shrimp tasted better than the char siu but both are good. My husband got chicken with green onions, 2 sunny-side-up eggs and fried rice. Green onions with their scallion oil is always a great combination with chicken and rice. They also had lots of porridge and noodle options on their menu, and after 11am they have baked rice as well, which is difficult to get from other Chinese restaurants. We then shared the ovaltine French toast for dessert, which is a unique product from them and the highlight of the meal. The toast was covered in ovaltine powder (chocolate-like in flavor), and the inside contained hot condensed milk, which mixed well with the powder when you slice the toast open to provide an amazing sweet and sticky flavor. This dish is only for dine-in customers, as takeout would make the bread too soggy. Would definitely recommend.

Food took a while. Laksa was legit and delicious. Meat and tendon were tender. Chinese donut was crispy and nice. Porridge was delicious and light. Everything came piping hot and fresh.

It was easy to miss since Google Maps hasn't update since 2019. The interior so very cute and going for that retro Cha Chaan Teng vibes. They speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. The drinks and french toast pass the HK test (though the milk tea could be a little more burnt but it's ok since we're in America).

Four of us came here for lunch on a Wednesday, and sat right away. Food didn’t take long to come out either. Parked in one of the municipal parking structures. The Wonton soup with egg noodles was delicious, broth tasty and a good amount of noodle serving; we got this 2x. The seafood laksa was delicious, but spicy! Two pieces each of shrimp, muscles, squid and imitation crab. The shrimp omelette with black pepper sauce was also good! Don’t get the spaghetti with tomato sauce. The peanut butter French toast was so good, but small for the price of $8.99! Lunch with all these dishes and two sodas came out to just under $90. Glad we tried them out, but probably won’t return.

This is the cutest little mom and pop restaurant. We were greeted immediately after arriving and the server finished cleaning our table and putting it together to make room for our party of five. The ambience is really nice. There's a cute tile pattern on the walls and there are plenty of HK Posters and photos around the restaurant. Our server/hostess was kind and very patient with us. She repeated our orders to make sure they were ok and made sure to answer any questions we had. All of our food was out in less than 20 minutes. Each dish was served as it was prepared. The soup came, followed by the chow fun and then my omelette and rice. The food was clearly freshly made and very delicious. I highly recommend coming by and getting food here.

My first time ever in Honolulu’s Chinatown, and it did not disappoint. My mom and I wandered around, checking out different shops, before she led us to HK Cafe — a small, no-frills Chinese spot she swore was authentic. Limited seating. The place was packed. Everyone there was clearly local Chinese — Cantonese, maybe Taiwanese — not a single tourist in sight. That’s usually a good sign. We ended up sharing a booth with an older gentleman since there were no open tables. Mom ordered the beef chow fun. Unreal. The beef was soft and tender, the onions were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the noodles were just right — smoky, oily, and authentic. I got the Cantonese fried rice, which was light, fragrant, and cooked to perfection. Both dishes hit the mark — exactly what you want from real Chinese cooking. Now, the service? Brutal. One woman running the entire show — waitress, cashier, and host — so water and attention were almost nonexistent. We waited a while for food, but honestly, it was worth it once it hit the table. Bottom line: terrible service, incredible food. Authentic Chinese at its best. I’d go back in a heartbeat — just don’t expect smiles or fast refills.

New and very clean. Food came out relatively quickly but we had to inquire about our you tiao which we had not received even though all the rest of our dishes had arrived. The broth for beef brisket and tendon noodle soup was really tasty! The congee was gingery and comforting, and the steamed flour rolls were so unique. The ovaltine toast was really cool but I didn't care for it. Looking forward to returning to try more menu items.

Kingz Feast Hawaii is a hidden gem that may be tricky to locate, but the culinary rewards are absolutely worth the effort. This takeout-only spot has no dining area—just a door with ordering instructions—but it’s where you’ll find some of the most delicious food around. Patrons rave about dishes like Ahi Katsu and NY Steak, both cooked to perfection with fresh ingredients and evident care. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making your experience even more enjoyable.
The food was absolutely delicious! We got the Ahi Katsu and the NY Steak and both were cooked to perfection. You can tell a lot of thought and aloha goes into the cooking and it seems like everything is made from scratch, which says a lot since it's a one man operation. Also highly recommend the lychee lemonade. We'll definitely be back!
Leilani B — Google review
The only thing wrong here is that they don’t give you a wheelbarrow to carry the takeout boxes because they are heavy! Great portions, great quality. Mac salad is top tier. Great chicken and ahi katsu.
Scott H — Google review
Literally a hole in the wall place but the food is awesome. It's only take out as there's no dining room, not even a counter, just a door with some instructions on it. You can order online which is definitely preferable so your food is ready when you get there. The parking area is cramped with various other businesses and I had to park in the middle of nowhere blocking everybody to get my food. Still worth it! Good food! Just wish they moved somewhere else where they are more accessible. That'd be winnaz!

This place is amazing. Food was the best we had all week! Fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, so tasty...amazing! Got to drive toward the end of the one way to find it and it's in the back by the auto shop. Totally worth it!

Friendly and welcoming staff. My daughter was eyeing the steak for over a week and it did not disappoint! We tore into it the moment we got into the car and I don’t think that we paused to take a breath until we finished the meal. Definitely an obscure spot that maybe is a touch difficult to find, but it reminded me of the way the best eats are hidden home in Los Angeles. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
