Kings County Distillery, established in 2010, is New York City's oldest whiskey distillery. It has gained recognition for its award-winning barrel-strength bourbon and operates from a historic tasting room located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The distillery offers a curated flight of spirits and seasonally driven cocktails, such as a strawberry-ginger moonshine margarita and a grapefruit-jalapeno whiskey Negroni.
We had an amazing time on the Top Shelf Tour at Kings County Distillery with our fantastic guide Brendan! His storytelling brought the history of bourbon in America to life, and he explained the distillation and aging process in a way that was both engaging and educational. The tastings at the end were a real highlight — every sample was unique and delicious. We also loved meeting the two resident cats, who clearly take their job of supervising the distillery very seriously! To top it off, we couldn't resist picking up a few souvenirs — a great t-shirt, a poster, and we were even gifted some beautiful tasting glasses. A perfect memento of a memorable visit. Highly recommended for anyone curious about craft spirits, history, or just looking for a great time in Brooklyn. Cheers!

Had the best experience visiting Kings County yesterday! We met at the bar and then follow Brenden as he led us through the Navy Yard, the distillery, and a wonderful tasting. The whole place was so beautiful and such an escape from the city as it feels like you’re stepping into a rugged distillery from the early 1900s. Brenden was our tour guide and absolutely amazing, so knowledgeable and eager to share his passion with us! Thank you!!
Evangeline E — Google review
Singed up for a tour through a 3rd party (course horse). Worth every penny. Got to sample some really good bourbon and whiskey. I would imagine you can sign up directly with them instead of going through the 3rd party. I have to mention how knowledgeable and nice our tour guide Erika was, she made it a really memorable experience. We also met and took a couple of pics with a very nice couple from Switzerland that was going back home the next day..safe travels my new friends.. all and all, this place gets a very big thumbs up and I highly recommend it. Like my friends from Switzerland, this is a great idea to do if you are here from out of town....cheers!!! 🍻🥂

The Best Whiskey Tour Ever! Hannah was a phenomenal tour guide and everything they served was really amazing. The gatehouses (their bar) have really good prices on flights of their spirits and I hear the cocktails are good as well. Probably the best value distillery tour too.
Steven N — Google review
My family and I did a distillery tour. Our guide was Ethan, and he was really great. Very insightful. Nice little distillery. Very tasty whiskey. Highly recommend the tour and the whiskey.
Graham S — Google review
Brendon was the best part of the tour. He kept us engaged very knowledgeable extremely friendly, so funny! I would come back just for him. Honestly will definitely refer my friends to take his tour!! Oh, and the whiskey was great too!!
JasZJas — Google review
The cocktails at The Gatehouse were fantastic but the Top Shelf Tour with Brendan was the real highlight! He was informative, engaging, and hilarious, turning the history of the distillery and their process into a genuinely enjoyable experience. Couldn't have asked for a better time! Highly recommend. 🥃
Justin U — Google review
I had the absolute BEST time at this distillery! Not to mention the whiskey and bourbon tasting tour was phenomenal. Learned a lot, laughed a lot and had lovely conversation! I highly recommend going with a group of your friends or your boo thang for a fun date night! Brendan S was our tour guide and he was LOT of fun. I’m already planning to come back and learn some more from him! Don’t hesitate! Go!

Distillery
Food & Drink
New York Distilling Co. is a renowned distillery known for producing a variety of high-quality spirits, including the famous Dorothy Parker gin made with juniper, elderberries, cinnamon, and hibiscus. In addition to their navy-strength gin and Rock & Rye whiskey, they offer tours ranging from complimentary weekend distillery tours to VIP private barrel tasting tours and mixology classes. The distillery also features a dog-friendly outdoor area with picnic tables and lawn games during the summer months.
Such a cool stop! We happened to be walking by and decided to drop in spontaneously. The room is small, but has ample seating for a reasonable amount of people. There’s a large glass window looking into the distillery to see some of the process. The inside is decorated with a modern industrial vibe and has a very large bar with a lot of different options. We ordered off of their drink menu, and we’re completely impressed with the quality of their drinks as much as their liquor itself. Their liquor prices were exactly what you’d expect for a decent bottle of alcohol.
Chase H — Google review
I tracked down the elusive Dorothy Parker in New Orleans! I could not find it known, or for sale in upstate NY. I first fell in love with it at The Maker bar in Hudson and asked after.'her' everywhere thereafter with no luck. On holiday in N.O. I began the search anew...in five stores and every restaurant I was met by blank states. Finally, a groovy, special wine store in the Margny neighborhood had two bottle! Ha!! Now, the have none. Nyah, nyah, nyah!! Try it, if you can find it!!
Lisa J — Google review
This is the ideal spot for hosting an event. We booked it for a networking and staff event and it was amazing. The space is huge with a long bar, plenty of seating, and cool views of the distillery equipment and exposed brick. Lots of natural light and in a hip neighborhood steps from the L train. The staff went out of their way to make sure our event was stellar. We will definitely rent it again and treat our VIPs to a tour!
Michael N — Google review
The free tour was amazing! They offer eight samples and give you a full background on gin and how to get the flavors out of the drink. The Dorothy Parker with rose was by far my friends and mine favorite. The tour was informative and fun!
Breea B — Google review
Great staff that are well versed in their history of gin and rye distillery, and happen to to turn out excellent product of their own. They have a great side bar called the Shanty offering mixed cocktails and above average draft, and they also have excellent events on their calendar that are worth looking out for. You are guaranteed a great relaxing and informative time. Make it a stop on your visit to NYC or even if you live here.
Mike S — Google review
The free tour here was on par with tours you pay $15 for at other distilleries. It's particularly good for understanding the difference between whiskeys and grain neutral spirits like gin because they produce both there. They're even more generous with the samples than the paid tour I've been on. I didn't sample everything because one of the gin varieties is over 505 alcohol, and it really packs a punch. Be prepared, though, the room in which you are given the tour is very cold, so you should dress accordingly.
Ariella B — Google review
They have FREE tours that include 8 generous samples within a 1 hour timeframe. I definitely did not walk in expecting a free tour, nor did I expect free tastes of that many different products, but I walked out very satisfied and very inebriated. It was a very pleasant surprise and I really enjoyed the tour as the guide did not waste any time going on about the basics which I've already heard every tour I've gone on. In the bar area, they sometimes have live music which is another nice touch. Definitely will be back!
Michelle W — Google review
Fantastic tour and presentation of the distilling process. Excellent date place because after the tour you can stay for amazing cocktails at the Shanty (next door) and have lots to talk about since you just learned about all the different types of gin they serve. Very fun, very cool.

Distillery
Nestled in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, Van Brunt Stillhouse is a renowned microdistillery that crafts an array of spirits including whiskey, rum, grappa, and moonshine. Their collection features four distinct whiskeys made from locally grown grains and a unique rum distilled from sugarcane raised on a family farm in the Himalayas. The limited-production grappa is a special collaboration with wineries from Long Island.
Upon visiting, so sad to learn that Van Brunt was sold - however, the tasting room is still open under Brooklyn Gin, and as of today, they are still selling Van Brunt. The bartender was wonderful (and the gin very good!) so we would still absolutely recommend visiting the tasting room!
Jordan A — Google review
This place is a gem. The bartenders make you feel at home. The drinks are amazing. The gin is one of the best I’ve tasted in a long time. BBQ Thursdays are delicious and Chicago dogs Saturday Sunday are Yummy.
Luis L — Google review
Cool distillery with a cosy taproom that does flights and cocktails. Loved the martini and the sour, and also appreciated that they had cards to play gin rummy with. Would come back!
Rovik R — Google review
We’ve come here twice so far and have loved it both times! The cocktails are delicious, the people working the tasting room are super friendly (shoutout to Brooks and Jonathan!), and it overall has a chill vibe. Definitely make sure to do a tour if you can, too!
Melissa G — Google review
We stopped by Brooklyn Stillhouse and had such an incredible experience. Justin, our bartender, was insanely nice. He greeted us right away, showed us around the still, and gave us a tour before we’d even ordered a drink. His cocktails were absolutely exceptional. hands down the best we’ve had in months. Every drink was balanced, creative, and made with care. You can really feel the pride and hospitality here. Can’t recommend it enough. ask for Justin if you go.
Quinn B — Google review
Hidden little distillery. All the furniture in their taproom looks like it's been recycled and handmade. The tour was short and sweet with 4 small tastings. I don't think the tastings even summed up to one shot so you definitely won't get drunk (unlike NY Distilling Co). The bottle prices were pretty steep and since none of the whiskies we tried really stood out, we didn't bring anything home.
Michelle W — Google review
Van Brunt Stillhouse is a phenomenal small batch distillery in Brooklyn. They have a cozy, rustic tasting room where you can get a sampler flight of their excellent whiskeys, or if you're feeling fancy even grab a cocktail. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable too.

Widow Jane Distillery, located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, is known for its own-make whiskey as well as aged stock sourced from Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. The distillery is set to expand with a new 15,000-square-foot facility in late 2022 to significantly increase production. Using pure limestone-filtered water with mineral content similar to that found on the Brooklyn Bridge, Widow Jane produces high-quality whiskeys and liquors through traditional distillery methods.
Went for a tour and since no one joined it was the four of us from my family. We had a wonderful tour and enjoyed learning so much from our guide. You walk across the sreeet to see barrels and production and then come back to shop for tastings. Beautiful space and we love Widow Jane here. Do the tour. It’s fun and you learn so much. Most bottles are retail and some are even a smidge less. Can also find them here including bourbon maple syrup for $20.
Barbara W — Google review
I cannot stress enough how awesome these people are. Being a truck driver it is quite difficult getting around New York City, and the staff here went above and beyond to make sure I made it there safely. They were extremely friendly while I was loading there, and everybody seemed to be happy and having a great time. What a great place. If you're going there in a semi the last turn before you're right in front of the distillery is a doozy as you can see by the pictures below it is extremely close within inches on both sides.
The E — Google review
What a great afternoon we had. First, we took the tour with Adam, had a tasting afterwards and bought some goodies. Then on to next door for a stop at the bar for some Widow Jane cocktails. You have to visit. It is most definitely worth the trip.
Christina S — Google review
A must if you’re in New York and like not only bourbon, but history too. Check out Widow Jane distillery; you won’t be disappointed.
Jackie B — Google review
Did a tour on 6/29 and it was a great experience. Emma our guide was very knowledgeable both she and the distillery treated us great and showed much gratitude for our appreciation of their whiskey. As someone that’s a whiskey advocate who has been on the bourbon trail and visited major distilleries this experience was by far one of the best and they truly make some amazing whiskey that far surpasses many many major competitors! Will visit regularly to be able to buy their special releases
James ( — Google review
Great experience in the middle of Brooklyn warehouse district. It was great to visit here. They have a separate bar. Overall tour was nice. But note that it’s a small establishment. The tour was 1 hour(could have been completed in 45 min). I wish they will include 13 year and 15 year old in the tasting, especially the price they charge over the weekend tour. Overall a good experience.
Mohit V — Google review
My Boyfriend wanted to tour a distillery for his birthday, stumbled upon this place by mistake, but glad we did! One of the best distillery tours I had a very long time! The staff amazing! The tasting amazing! The amount of information is perfect! I am definitely visiting once again when I return to NYC!
CA L — Google review
Highly recommend Widow Jane. The staff was very courteous and was able to accommodate an ad hoc tour due to my arrival early to the distillery. They applied the cost of the tour to a tasting. I bought two bottles and some swag and can honestly say that Adam was great. Thank you again for a great time and taking us early!!! Adam

Greenhook Ginsmiths is a unique distillery located in Greenpoint, founded by brothers Steven and Philip DeAngelo in 2010. Unlike many distilleries that produce gin as a side project while waiting for whiskey to mature, they focus on crafting exceptional spirits. Their flagship product is the American Dry gin, which boasts a wheat base and an impressive juniper flavor complemented by nine botanicals such as elderflower, cinnamon, and chamomile.
Awesome tour and delicious gin. Steve is a great storyteller!
Luke S — Google review
Passionate owner gave a very detailed tour of the history of gin and all the painstaking steps he takes to hand make every bottle. This is not a tour for hanging out as much as it is for learning about a delicious local spirit. Tips: Schedule ahead for tour, 20 spots only on Saturdays at 2:30. Might be worth checking out Groupon as well, but at full price, it is worth a visit.
Michael M — Google review
We are longtime gin drinkers, and our daughter gave us a bottle of Greenhook for Christmas. We just opened it to have extra dry martinis. It's just perfect--smooth and great flavor. This will be our go-to from now on. Hope to visit the distillery soon.
Beth I — Google review
I think the best gin ever made. I mean that 100%, more flavor and smoothness than any gin. A great American product. Made right in Brooklyn, great to bring over to a gin lovers house cause its not everywhere, also tastes much more pricey, ill put it up verse any gin any time Bottle also looks cool
Brett B — Google review
Excellent tour with a casual yet informative approach. If you know nothing about gin or know everything about gin, i'd definitely recommend taking a visit and doing their tour.
Tim H — Google review
I like a lot of different gins—but Greenhook’s American Dry has been my go-to for almost a decade now. Probably the most versatile gin I have ever used.
Mike H — Google review
We love this gin! Unfortunately we stopped by for a tour and tasting, no one answered the door and no one answered the phones either. Will update if we are able to visit

The Noble Experiment NYC, located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is a distillery paying homage to the Prohibition era. Founded by Bridget Firtle, a native New Yorker with a family history of running a speakeasy, the distillery focuses on producing rum using organic American-grown sugarcane. The flagship product is Owneys Original New York City Rum, a dry white rum made from locally sourced molasses.
Interesting back story behind the distillery and a really good rum. Tour is good value but not long enough to fill an afternoon
Joseph G — Google review
I bought a deal through living social. It was more a history course on distilleries. There was not much of a show off ingredients just bunch of talking and the deal called for snacks which were simply a bowl of lightly sweetened pretzel (in which people can dig their dirty hands in) and Hershey kisses. The silver lining in all this was the drink which was really good. I thought the owner launched the tour just to capitalize on the space (good idea for business) least should have tried to make it more interesting as oppose to simply showing 2-3 ingredients and by not even showing any step of the rum making process. Would have been better if I looked up distilleries vids online.

Located in the Industry City complex, Standard Wormwood Distillery & Cocktail Bar is a unique establishment that explores the diverse uses of wormwood in alcoholic beverages. Founded by lifelong friends Sasha Selimotic and Taras Hrabowsky, the distillery infuses wormwood into a variety of base spirits, such as rye whiskey and agave smoked with pumpkin seeds and pineapple. The facility features a retooled steam-jacketed kettle previously used for making bagels.
Located within Industry City, this eclectic and vibrant colored distillery is crafting up eye catching cocktails with seasonal inspired fresh ingredients all made in- house. They have the outdoor/ indoor bar concept which is nice for taking in the surrounding atmosphere. We all enjoyed a Fall Margarita with Mezcal packing a punch. The bartender was very knowledgeable and super friendly. The cocktails were priced great surprisingly. This was a great starting point for a fun girls night out in town.
Greecian K — Google review
Excellent. Many fine takes on classic cocktails and also innovative new cocktails, such as an amaro-based hot toddy. The "agave spirit" tastes quite like a well-balanced mezcal. Their absinthe is one of the best that I have had, with forward orange notes and excellent complexity.

Industry City Gem! Hands down, By Far has the best drinks I've tasted in a long time. Perfect balance, flavor, and strength — they don’t play around. Major shoutout to bartender Toruss for the vibe, the craft, and the precision. This spot is a must if you're in the area!

Industry City Distillery is a vodka distillery located in Brooklyn, New York. They focus on producing high-quality spirits, particularly their unique beet juice-based Industry Standard Vodka, which is the only vodka made in New York City. Additionally, they have created Technical Reserve, a 191.2 proof spirit that serves as a neutral base for crafting custom bitters, cocktails, or tinctures at home.
Awesome space with great cocktails and amazing views. Went by for a drink on a Saturday night around sunset and was not disappointed...incredible view of Manhattan skyline, Hudson River, and even the Statue of Liberty. Loved the Jalapeno cocktail as well as the Moscow Mule, both made with their in house vodka and tinctures. DJ set up would make for a great private event if they did that kind of thing.

Open only 2 days a week, 5th floor of old industrial building. Very lovely decoration, incredible view of New York Harbor, Statue of Liberty and the City. And the drinks are great. Also, try own craft beer.

This was my second time visiting but at day light. Night view is beautiful as well. This is a distillery and fully stack on. I can see all the machines. They have a some what large seating area that you can book for events or just hang with friends. It's a bit out of the way but after visiting the downstairs areas. You can be the cool friend showing everyone the secret spot in this complex. Oh the view. Its not super fancy but more industrial which is prefect. Something different from the normal clean NYC look. To get here. You need to be in building #5 and go up to 6th floor. You will see a long empty hallway. Just go to the end. This spot serves craft beer from 2 different brewery. I am not a fan. They make cocktail as well.

ICD is the perfect example of a Brooklyn born business! these guys not only know their stuff, but run the ENTIRE business between the two of them! I took a tour here, and they did everything from BUILDING and retrofitting machinery from mid 20th century to packaging and shipping. they use very green eco-friendly specs and have centered their business model around that. amazing vodka, amazing knowledge and amazing people!

Punishing people for writing a letter of a friend sentence of a crime should not mean they cannot play a gig. You are just as evil as you perceive Brock Turner to be. You are even worst. She was being honest and has the right right to believe someone deserves a lighter sentence. I hope God, karma, or whatever you believe in comes back to take you out of business for your treatment of another human being who is actually not guilty of any crime other than being a loving and caring friend. Maybe here is something to think about...Won't you want a friend like that standing by your side, telling people that despite one bad act that you shouldn't be treated harshly?

Great Jones Distilling Co is a unique establishment in Manhattan, being the only distillery in the area since Prohibition. It offers more than just spirit production, featuring a stylish cocktail bar and a restaurant. Visitors can take tours of the distillery or participate in cocktail making classes. The distillery tour and tasting are highly recommended, with knowledgeable guides who make the experience enjoyable and informative.
My husband & I attended the VIP distillery tasting and were very happy with our experience!! Our guide, Jackson, has a great personality & set a friendly vibe for the rest of the tour !! He was super knowledgeable about the distillery and the history of the building. I felt comfortable asking questions and talking with the group . The distillery itself is super clean and safe to walk around! The whiskeys were unique and delicious. The cocktail bar is a nice vibe and all the staff are really friendly!! 10/10 would reccomend this tour to any whiskey lover!

Really nice service and great cocktails and tasting flight. Our waiter was attentive and had good suggestions. We went for the Jazz brunch and wish we also had a distillery tour booked! The food was good but not the main draw. We have no idea why it said that the Croque madame was recommended for two people because it is not big at all.. In fact, I was still quite hungry after the brunch!

We had the pleasure of touring Great Jones Distillery with Steven as our guide, and he was absolutely fantastic! Even though he’s new, Steven was incredibly charismatic, engaging, and knowledgeable. The tour itself was amazing — I learned so much about the whiskey-making process and the fascinating history behind the distillery. The whiskey flight was a highlight, allowing us to really taste and appreciate the unique differences between each spirit. After the tour, we stayed for food, which was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. Every staff member we encountered, including the bartender, was exceptional — friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. Overall, an unforgettable experience and a must-visit for whiskey lovers (and food lovers alike)!

The first legal whiskey distillery in Manhattan since prohibition. The tour is brief but informative and fun, our tour guide was Amanda 10/10 very funny. The tasting was a nice verity. And they are reopening the speak easy. The pics are of me eating all the food before we sat down

Traveling to New York for the week and we decided to tour Great Jones to experience how New York compared to the Midwest - best decision ever! Right when you walk in your greeted with the BEST ambiance. It reminded me of old time Great Gastsby! The drinks were fantastic, the service was 20/10 - our tour guide was incredible! Such a fun personality and made our 2-1 such a fun and vibrant experience!

*This review is for a special chef collaboration event* My GF and I recently attended the first (hopefully of many) Great Jones chef collaboration dinner event. Worth. Every. Penny. For the price of admission we received a 6 course tasting menu collaborated on by two chefs (one of whom is Great Jones’ executive chef). Each dish was paired with a house-made cocktail, wine or whiskey. The cocktails were all whiskey based (of course) but showcased a wonderful variety of flavors pleasing the pallets of all and showcasing the misunderstood diversity of the spirit. The food courses were, similarly, not lacking in creativity, daring and diversity. Highlighting the many cultural varieties of cuisine in NYC, the tasting menu showcased many Latin and European flavors and techniques. From seared duck breast, to empanadas, to a scallop crudo and treś leches. While I may have had minor critiques on some of the finer techniques of the dishes, the menu was bold and flavorful. If given the opportunity, I will 100% be attending this event again.

Great Jones Distilling Co. is a great spot and a refreshing change from the usual NYC activities. I took their distillery tour and tasting, and it was a really enjoyable experience—well-organized, informative, and fun. It’s a good option if you’re looking to do something different that’s not overly touristy. While it’s unfortunate that their restaurant has closed, the bar is still open to the public and worth checking out. The atmosphere is sleek and inviting, and it's a nice place to unwind with a well-crafted drink. Overall, a unique and worthwhile experience in the city.

Fort Hamilton Distillery & Tasting Room, located in Industry City, Brooklyn, is a warehouse-like space run by Alex Clark, a veteran bar professional. The distillery focuses on reviving the Monongahela-style rye whiskey and also produces bourbon and watermelon-infused gin. Visitors can enjoy top-notch cocktails at the bar, play pool, take a tour of the space, and even try their hand at bottling whiskey.
Fort Hamilton Distillery is a must-visit! Amy and her team are incredibly welcoming, and the space is huge, perfect for any occasion. The spirits are made in-house, and you can really taste the craftsmanship in every bottle. Whether you’re bringing friends, a date, or just stopping by solo to mingle, you’ll have a great time. Highly recommend!

I came for the free comedy show, amazed by the drink menu and great service, a few laughs and excellent drinks, perfect combo! I came for happy hour, 5–6 p.m.. I had the spicy cucumber margarita and a (vodka) French 75, and while they are known for their Whisky and Gin, these tequila and vodka drinks were also on point. I left to get some food, because there’s so many options in industry city for food. I came back for the comedy show ordered the classic Gimlet this time, kept the Gin and excellent again. The ladies at the bar, “Colorado & Georgia” respectfully, worked nicely as a team and were knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The comedy was good, some better than others. It’s a monthly thing so I would definitely go back for the drinks and a few laughs. I also want to return to play pool.

Love Fort Hamilton for the bar, high quality cocktails, game area and staff. Highly recommend all of their Bourbons and Whiskeys. The distillery tour/tasting is also a dope experience that is well worth it.

I visited Fort Hamilton Distillery for a Galentines date with my best friend and we had a great time. The tour guide was knowledgeable and walked us through the entire process of making whiskey. The best part of the tour was when we were able to package our own bottle of whiskey and had the chance to purchase it. The tasting was fun and we even had the chance to sample maple syrup which was also available for purchase. Definitely recommend visiting Fort Hamilton if you love whiskey or just want to learn about the history of whiskey making.

Fort Hamilton Distillery is amazing. You can really taste the craftsmanship that goes into every product. Their cocktails are fantastic. Creative, balanced, and taste great! The staff make the experience even better. Our bartender in particular was incredible — knowledgeable, friendly, and really made the visit memorable. If you’re in Brooklyn, this is definitely not to be missed.

Love it. Great site and location, great space for distilling while tasting, and wonderful staff. There's quiet, billiards, couches, bar, totally visible space "where the magic" happens - even though only gin is made on site for now. The owners were amazing, friendly, and willing to really talk about their process. As for the spirits, I'm not a gin drinker but their's is one of the best I've had. The whole whiskey line has something for everyone - even an old collector like me! - I suggest trying their seasonal offerings, especially if they have any of the 1 year finished Madeira cask left.

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Bushwick, Moto Spirits Distillery is a must-visit for those who appreciate unique craft spirits. Open from Thursday to Sunday, their tasting room offers an inviting atmosphere with a full view of the distilling process. Co-founders Marie Estrada and Hagai Yardeny have created a delightful range of beverages, including rice whiskey and Jabuka—a distinctive spirit made from apples and rice.
More than worth the stop to taste some wonderful rice based whiskey. I personally loved the flight as it showcases the complexity of the spirit but my favorite was the jabuka both aged and unaged, the flavor profiles are incredible! Great setting and amazing staff, they have some interesting events, Thursdays they have a drinking/art night and apparently on Tuesdays they host a really innovative language exchange evening. Loved the vibe and experience here!

This local hangout could be plopped into a small town in Oregon, Vermont, along Route 66. The staff and regulars are friendly, welcoming, great conversationalists, authentic, and real people. What adds to the charm is that it's dog friendly, it has motorcycles, and just the vibe in general is calming. Highly recommend. Plus, it's woman owned!
Jenny U — Google review
I don’t have a dog yet so I require a dog a day to pet as I adore them. There seem to be one or two dogs here at ant given time and they are always sweetpeas. This is one of the few blocks designated as distillery friendly by local code: so it is a few blocks from the beaten path and frequented mostly by people in the know. I meet a lot of artists there, and see a true cross section of the actual local population. They also have great live music often and a small hard working friendly crew. See you there.

Among their offerings is the acclaimed 6-year-old Brownstone Malt, celebrated for its captivating flavor profile.
***Call ahead, as this distillery doesn't have a retail store front.*** Great experience! The Gins and Whiskeys were delicious! We love checking out local distilleries and breweries when visiting new places, and this place makes some top notch products. Definitely call ahead, as it's not really open to the public. The distillery doesn't have a retail store front, and we were lucky the owner was around and gracious enough to give us his time and expertise when we showed up unannounced.

Tasted three of their concoctions at Prospect Wine Shop on 7th, and while they were all delicious, the straight Glorious Gin was my favorite. I'm a big gin fan, but it's not a spirit I would sip neat (bring on the G&T or a cocktail), but this I would! Really rich, complex, and smooth. Fantastic.

Cacao Prieto is a unique destination that combines a chocolate maker and liquor distillery, offering visitors a retail shop, cocktail bar, tours, and tastings. Founded by Daniel Prieto Preston, the establishment sources organic cacao beans from a family farm in the Dominican Republic to produce an array of chocolates and spirits. The facility's brick-production process transforms Dominican sugar and cacao into delectable desserts as well as various rums and liqueurs such as the renowned Don Rafael rum.
Well worth the tour if you have an hour to spare in Red Hook. It covers the chocolate and whiskey distillery and goes into just enough detail on both processes that casual fans can follow along. Both companies (Cacao Prieto and Widow Jane) are run by the same team but operate separately under one roof. The tour covers both.
Howard — Google review
Wow. This spot is gorgeous and quite frankly, unexpected. It’s in the same building as a whiskey distillery, which is pretty cool. Their chocolate was also delicious. I enjoyed the Orchid chocolate and want to try the vanilla chocolate next time I’m back. You can truly tell they have a strong attention to detail, as noticed by the product itself.
Brooke M — Google review
Delicious smells emanate from this unique chocolate shop, and the wonderful peacock in the back during warmer months is a site to remember.
Mariel H — Google review
FOODIE ALERT! You MUST go here. In any other city this would be touted as one of the top tourist attractions. It's right up there with Jacques Torres (the good store, on Hudson) in terms of interest and quality. I mean, come on -- chocolate AND whiskey? They roast their own beans for the chocolate, giving Mast Bros a run for their money, and also make rum, bourbon, whiskey, and scotch. Did I mention a really nicely renovated old warehouse, friendly employees, and FREE SAMPLES? Get down to Red Hook now. (Free tours require advance reservations.)
R. — Google review
First and foremost, we went on a wonderful Saturday afternoon and the tour guide was informative and explained everything really nicely. HOWEVER, we paid for the Chocolate Factory & Distillery Tour but upon arrival there were several small signs that noted they are sold out of chocolate. Furthermore, the tour of the (nonfunctioning) chocolate factory was first and the tour guide noted that the chocolate hasn't been in production for several months now but the website simply hasn't been changed. How frustrating! We were really under the impression that we were paying for a chocolate and whiskey tasting but only got the whiskey tasting. So if you're going expecting chocolate... don't expect it to be there.
Keren F — Google review
I love this spot! It's Cacao Prieto, which is the same team behind Widow Jane, the fabulous bourbon and rye produced in Red Hook. Come and taste the whiskeys and taste the chocolate - and don't miss the rooster out back. All of the above makes for quite an afternoon!
Lara Z — Google review
This place is cute. However its 37 degrees out with a feel of 30 and they have both gigantic doors WIDE OPEN. My husband and i couldn't wait to cone here for a while and have a taste of their got chocolate. Turns out this chocolate joint doesn't serve got chocolate. I didn't see any chocolate products on the shelves, but a lot of cute ornaments very apothecary-chic, and lots of liquor. With one table to sit next to the wide open doors, you might as well be outside, with nothing warm to drink. The space feels small although it part of a large structure because 98% of the space is taken up by the brewing and making of their product. Real cute if you take a tour, and only if you take a tour. I'll never come back to this cold, sterile space.

Love this place for stocking up on wine whenever I'm going to Costco. A lot of good budget options here as well as some nicer selections. They also have a fair amount of whisky, sprites and liquors. I haven't interacted with the staff much but they seem friendly enough. Sometimes there are label reps here hosting tastings.

Trader Joe's is closed, so that's probably the best place after to buy wine ! Only complaint about the place is that everything is somehow placed randomly inside. It is not messy, but to find the wine you're looking for, you'd better go around 3 times as you will surely missed what you're looking for the first run around. Prices are decent, again, same range as the previous trader Joe's.
Valentin D — Google review
Average (at best) selection at Costco prices. If you're looking for a small sample of popular national brands at discounted prices, then this is the place for you. If you're looking for anything else, the neighborhood offers far better stocked wine and liquor stores for prices that are not much higher, which are more accommodating of individual buyers.

Barrow’s Intense NY Tasting Room is a unique and vibrant spot located in the Industry City warehouse complex. The interior exudes a steampunk meets distillery laboratory vibe, with red velvet and gold accents that mirror the label of their signature ginger liqueur. The bar offers an extensive food and drink menu, including the delightfully spicy ginger liqueur. During warmer months, the bar opens up to the plaza for al fresco enjoyment.
Don’t forget to ask for your free sample of the ginger liquor! As a walk-in customer, it looks like a regular bar. But in fact, every spirit, beer or cider on offer is from New York State! Ask for the newspaper that outlines all the details of all the beverages. You will find various flights of spirits to sample, but there is only the one ginger liquor that they make themselves. Or plan ahead and check the website to schedule an actual class or fancy tasting set up

This is truly a neat spot to get a drink or two or three....hehe. I loved the vibe of this place and the atmosphere is very friendly. I didn't get the name of my bartender, but he was very welcoming and helpful. If you like or have a taste for ginger then I highly recommend the Ginger Spritz as it is very strong. A chill lowkey spot with a good chill versatile playlist. I would go back my myself or with friends in industry city! I originally found out about them on a tipplr. The design was a bit industrial and unwelcoming before , but idk something is new here! If you don’t like dog, beware I think the owner or someone who works here brings the dog to work, idc personally , they don’t serve much food and doggy is not not touching the liquor.

I rented out the bar for my 30th birthday and it was amazing! The bar manager made me a unique custom cocktail based on the types of drinks I like and had it on display at the bar for everyone to order. They made sure there were plenty of snacks for everyone and the mini grilled cheeses were a hit. They were also flexible with allowing me to put up the decorations I brought and storing the birthday cake. All of my friends loved the bar and we all plan on going back. Kaddy, Valerie, and all of the bar staff were awesome. Thank you!!!

So I was in a rush when I came here. It had a chilled vibe. No seating rules, just find your spot. It's hard to find places that make good cocktails but there's no wait time - cool. They definitely got their thing down with vodka. I had the Community Garden which had tomatoes, which I do not like in cocktails. Nevertheless , I loved this drink and I will definitely come back. Great after dinner date spot if you ask me. This place reminded me of Dead Rabbit, without the crowd, or the bouncer. Don't get me wrong, Dead Rabbit is one of my favorite bars in life so this is a compliment. Worth your time.

Perhaps just good for the vibe/atmosphere? I went there back in December. It could've improved since, but the cocktails were quite bland/watery. Perhaps the place is better for drinking vodka straight up.

Had the best time here for my 26th bday! Plenty of space to hold a semi-private group of ~35 and easy for everyone to have their own tabs and take care of their own drinks. Music is just loud enough to where you can talk and hear each other without needing to yell. Not really a dancey type of bar, but perfect to have drinks and chat with your guests. Bartenders were super friendly, kind, and accommodating. Loved being able to bring outside food and decoration to make the space feel like your own separate party! Overall great experience!!! <3

Decent space but seems a little confused on what it’s trying to be. This is more of a hipster bar than a distillery (saying that as a Chicagoan who has been to over 20 distilleries). The gin was good but a tasting flight wasn’t on the menu. We asked after that option and got 3 1oz pours of gin for $18. Also I would like to note that the bathroom was lit with a nauseating pink light that honestly just seemed the point to cover up how dirty the space was, I suggest to the owners to get a magic eraser to the walls instead.

At Proof + Gauge @ The Astoria Distilling Co, you can savor the renowned Queens Courage gin, a revival of the pre-Prohibition "Old Tom" style. This light and sweet gin is available for tasting on its own or as part of expertly crafted cocktails. Located in Astoria, New York, this distillery offers a unique experience to enjoy this historic spirit in a vibrant setting. It's an essential stop for those exploring the diverse culinary and cultural scene of Astoria.
The space is too cramped and the location too remote from anything else to make this a regular hangout spot.

Rooftop Reds is a unique venue located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, boasting the title of New York's first rooftop vineyard. With nearly 200 grapevines spread across its 15,000 square foot space, it offers a one-of-a-kind experience. Visitors can savor wine while taking in breathtaking views of both Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines.
Rooftop Reds is a true hidden gem in the Navy Yard of Downtown Brooklyn. It offers a nice view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines (though most of the manhattan side is covered by surrounding buildings). The vibes are relaxed with open seating, hammocks, large tables, and backyard games like cornhole. I especially like that the grape vines are intertwined with the seating, so that you can sit all around the plants while you enjoy your wine or cocktail. Service was spectacular with two sommeliers working the wine bar. They took their time to explain the menu and patiently described the flavor profile of each of the wines to me and my friend (two complete novices). I suggest trying their in house wines and the Le Mone spritz, which is similar to an Aperol Spritz but made with a lemon liqueur instead. It can be kind of difficult to get to the location since it in inside the Navy Yard and there is no direct access from the main street. Once you get there, you have to go up about 4 flights of stairs since the elevator is for special use only. They have a small snack menu but you can also order pizza from IL Porto, which will be delivered right to the rooftop. You cannot bring outside food or drink. Reservations are mandatory but I went on a Friday evening and there was only about 3 other groups there. There was also no cover when I went. Based on the other reviews, they must be more strict and charge cover on busier days or weekends. I plan on coming back here with more family and friends! 5/5 stars!

Finally got around here last weekend! I would say for it being the end of the season, it was decent. I definitely plan to try it again in the spring or summer. The red flight was fine, but the mulled wine was what really hit the spot on the chilly night. Highly recommend Porto as the food option!

I love this place. It’s definitely an unconventional location but that’s part of what makes it such a gem. We factored in extra time to find it which meant we arrived before they officially opened - they couldn’t have been nicer and were rushing round to get everything ready for us quicker. Although there isn’t much food on the menu (they don’t have a kitchen) you can order pizza which gets delivered to the roof. Of course it’s not like visiting a countryside vineyard, but if you’re looking for something quirky to do with a few hours in Brooklyn I would definitely recommend Rooftop Reds. The wine we tried (Sparkling Riesling) was fab. The Hammocks are amazingly comfortable and loved the views of Downtown Brooklyn and the Empire State.

The wines are amazing here! This was such a fun experience, getting in was a little confusing. You approach this vintage building and have to go up 4 big flights of stairs. When you get to the top your welcomes with a smile, box water and chips with an amazing view! This place is modern, bistro lights, hammocks, pretty chairs and tables with the grape vines and plants providing shade. We got the wine flights and they were perfect, you get to sample 3 wines with each flight. The white wine we had was amazing on the 1st flight so I had a glass of that. I’m not a big wine person but this was definitely a fun experience!
Mike O — Google review
This place is fantastic!! We came here for a group outing and had such an amazing time. Natasha and her team were so organized and attentive, they took incredible care of us. Devin hosted our group wine tasting which was fun and informative. This was a great interactive experience that was so much more interesting than just drinking on a rooftop. We had a welcome drink as guests arrived, then a charcuterie pairing during the wine tasting, followed by pizza/flatbreads when we transitioned to reds, and after the wine tasting ended we a more substantial catered meal, followed by some competitive cornhole games! If you’re looking for a place to hang out or a place to host a party, we had 40 people and everyone had positive things to say. I would definitely come back. Just note that getting into the Brooklyn Navy Yard is tricky, so if you’re bringing a big group, make sure you give clear directions so your guests don’t get lost.

As an event planner, I have always been on the search for new vendors to engage for both personal occasions and professional events on behalf of my employers. I first came upon Rooftop Reds at a street market in Dumbo while meeting a friend for brunch. I reached out to them months later to see if they were interested in being a vendor at my real estate company's community annual holiday market in November. Right away, they agreed not only to sell their wines for our exclusive market at West 57th street but also provide samples and recommendations for each resident. Three months later, I hired Rooftop Reds to host various private wine tasting events throughout February and March at all my residential properties. They were very professional, efficient, and knowledgeable, engaging my residents through an interactive setting. These were among my top sold-out events! After each tasting event, I gladly purchased a few cases of their wines for all my upcoming events. The residents were extremely interested in learning the founder's story and tasting local wines. My guests even encouraged me to organize a private outing to tour their rooftop location at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. I highly recommend hiring them for a special event at your home, office, or community. The rates are reasonable, wines are delicious, and their team is fantastic!

Had a fun time in the sun, drinking wine with friends! It was definitely not a cheap outing (admissions fee + not cheap wine), but was a good time. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. We ordered pizza from Il Porto and snacked on our complimentary chips and boxed water. Would go back if I were planning another special activity with friends.

Just make sure you follow the instructions in the booking confirmation email on how to get there (or the advice in previous reviews here). Don't do what we did and spend thirty minutes figuring out how to get inside an industrial complex.. Once you're in, it's a pretty magical spot by New York standards. It was empty when we went (we probably got lucky), and the skyscraper vista that is contrasted with the vines in the foreground is pretty unique. The wine isn't too badly priced by NY standards (around $9 for the cheapest glass), and it is excellent. Wonderful date night place; it still felt undiscovered, though that could be because we went on a rainy evening. No walk-ins, make sure you book.

Interboro Spirits & Ales, situated in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is a unique combination of brewery and distillery founded by Laura Dierks and Jesse Ferguson. The establishment offers an extensive draft list featuring hoppy pilsners, hazy IPAs, and decadent stouts. Visitors can also sample high-octane Boilermaker pairings suggested by the co-founder himself.
The Mixed Jankers (Sour Ale) was the most sour ale I ever had (in a good way). It is an excellent beer to have in the midst of a heat wave. I liked the stonefruit notes the Mixed Jankers possessed. A pack of popcorn comes complimentary with the beer on tap. It's too bad the restroom is unavailable. It would've completed the location. Can't wait to try their other beers.

Great beers coming out of Interboro, particularly if you're a fan of the hoppy stuff! Cozy little taproom, friendly staff, and plenty of beers to line up and enjoy, but also a selection of wine, ciders, and cocktails if that's more your thing.

Last on our brewery tour was Interboro. I'd only been introduced to this brewery the night before when I had a Premiere at Beer Culture. I tried a collab IPA with Left Hand, which was decent. But what I really enjoyed was their Dark Lager, whose name escapes me at the moment. But overall, I wasn't blown away by their beer. But still, recommend checking them out in you're in the area.

Interboro flows through many draught tap throughout Brooklyn. After having a pint, it was apparent that they know how to brew a great IPA. It's a short walk from Grand street station on the L train. The interior is raw brick and steel. Charming decor, with reclaimed wood for the bar and tables. With many options of beers, a flight is highly recommended. The menu is simple, however the grilled cheese can feed 3 people. That's not an exaggeration. David and Martin were working the bar the night I went. They were engaging and kind enough to go over the beer list. Además, hablan español, entonces el lugar es chevere para los turistas que quieren conocer algo típico. Once there, opt to get the popcorn; it has Old Bay spice. Niiiiceee!

Restaurant
Prohibition is a stylish supper club with a Jazz Age ambiance, offering an extensive cocktail menu and live music performances. The upscale restaurant provides an intimate setting for a romantic dinner or a casual hangout with friends. Its sophisticated menu caters to both serious diners and casual samplers. The venue's interior exudes the glamour and romance of the Prohibition Era, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
I would give this more than five stars if it was an option! We had a group of 12 of us from all over the United States, looking for a fun place to have dinner and drinks for our last night out together. Getting a reservation booked in the morning was so easy and they were so nice throughout that process. Next, we were a few minutes late for our reservation because of delayed trains. Not only where we still seated, But we were welcomed with excitement and enthusiasm like they knew us already! As if the greeting wasn’t warm enough, with only 15 minutes left to go in happy hour they sat us and took all of our orders and got everything out as fast as possible so we could fully get the most out of happy hour pricing. Then, the live music began, and it was the perfect ambience! Everyone was so patient with our large group, made it so easy for us to figure out the bill and invited us to come back next time we are all together. Some of the tastiest and smoothest drinks, with the coolest names and presentation. Definitely get the salted pretzel and pretty much everything else as well. Needless to say, Prohibition didn’t just give us a place to eat on our last night, they provided us with a memorable experience that we will all remember for years to come!

The drinks and service here are top tier. My friends and I enjoyed each drink we ordered and my pisco sour was great. They also have live music nights which adds to the good time. The steak I had was flavorful, but the green beans and carrots could have had a bit more seasoning. Overall would recommend!

My wife and I had our wedding celebration party at the speak easy bar of prohibition! Such a honor being chosen this place, everything from A to Z (food, service, hosting, drink, music, atmosphere) was excellent 10/10. Natalie Colton took a great care of us. They welcomed us with a big congratulations greeting and did this important moment of our life unforgettable. I have no world to thankful enough. Excellent job and thank you again for hosting us, see you soon!!

We went for a retirement party and the service was excellent as was the food. The open bar kept the bartender busy, but there was never much of a wait. Various, delicious, freshly prepared foods were brought out and were quickly consumed. Many were vegetarian and seafood. We had our own secluded area, while.a.live band played in the main restaurant.
Michael T — Google review
I held my husband’s 49th birthday party here on a Saturday afternoon in the Bonnie & Clyde room and everyone had a wonderful time! Natalie is a dream host to work with - expedient, smart and so personable, esp when serving food to our friends. Gabe was fabulous behind the bar. Everyone loved the food and cocktails (couldn’t stop talking about the cheeseburger sliders/ wishing they were on the regular menu!). Highly recommend for a very special event. There were 23 of us and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit and/ or mingle. Even at 30 people it would still feel spacious. Thank you, Prohibition team (Tyler and Miranda too)!
Angela K — Google review
We came here for a friend’s birthday and it was so much fun! The drinks were great and so were the apps - the staff was super friendly and we loved the live music. The main area definitely got crowded but very fun Saturday vibes. Would definitely come back (and thank you to our amazing bartender!!)

I had my birthday party at Prohibition with about ~30 people and it was great! It was in the back speakeasy room where we had direct access to the bar. The atmosphere, drinks and food were good. Everyone had a great time. Natalie, Miranda and the bartender were very accommodating and friendly. The minimum was comparative to other bars I checked in the area. I would host another event at Prohibition.
Andrew — Google review
Styling locale with live music. The food is priced a little above average for the neighborhood, but is served very well presented. The cocktails were very good. The venue gave us problems because my wife and wanted to share one of the prix-fixe menu options as we had eaten before joining our party. Everything was "good" but maybe not standout enough for the price they're asking. The live band was really good. We had a burger, salmon, steak, and the poke. Not the server's fault they needed to implement the 'chef's decree' that plates not be shared, but I'm not seeing how this would have hurt their bottom line when we were dropping over $100 per person anyway. Their cheesecake dessert was a little heavy. Didn't try the salmon but our friends left some behind. Make of that what you will. Would rate higher if not the nonsense with the splitting.

We had an incredible experience at Bitter Monk. The bartender who served us (his name was Ryan) was outstanding. He was friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about his craft. Watching him create the “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” cocktail was like watching an artist at work. The drink itself was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. This place is amazing! It is the most peaceful cocktail bar/distillery in Industry City and it's absolutely beautiful as well. Service was knowledgeable, friendly and just overall incredible. Only thing better than the atmosphere and service were the cocktails and their house made amaris and herbal liqueurs. So I purchased a bottle of Tosolini Amaro from Italy. It is excellent; however, I prefer St. Agestis made in Brooklyn (just like me) more. I now live out of state, but when I visit NY, I will look for and, hopefully find AND buy the better bitter - St. Agestis. I’m coming for you. 😍

Enlightenment Wines Meadery, located in Brooklyn at Honeys bar and event space, specializes in crafting small-batch honey wines known as mead. The dimly lit and cozy atmosphere offers a selection of quality meads and light bar foods. While closed on holidays, they offer a mead CSA program for quarterly shipments. The tasting room, Honeys, hosts live performances and the meadery offers a variety of mind-expanding meads like Night Eyes and St.
I subscribe to their mead CSA program and have a selection of their fantastic meads shipped to me in FL on a quarterly basis. I got a new batch before the holidays and shared them with friends--I'm leaving a review because of how happy everyone was to drink these artful bevs. Raise the Roof is always a banger; Dagger has been great for both sipping and cocktail inclusions as a drier amaro; I like the Athanor for its tawny port-like qualities despite typically being disinterested in all things whisky-barreled; and the Umbra bottle I took to be a lovely variation on the fundamentals of Raise the Roof, pushing the effervescence higher, lightening the overall pallet and showcasing the near-savory aftertaste of the yeast, all perfect for New Years. I consistently get comments from friends who I crack these open with, that they were apprehensive when mead was mentioned because of their previous experiences with flat-flavored and cloyingly sweet meads, but loved what was poured. While of course on the out-there side for some staunch grape wine drinkers, everyone with an adventurous streak has loved your products. Some visiting New Yorkers will likely be stopping by Honey's on their return to The One Great City. I also wanted to mention the foraged apple mead and dandelion bitters meads from the prior set--both were beloved. Check these guys out, and they ship perfectly well.

Beverly H — Google review
The place is a dim lighted area fits a quiet cozy atmosphere they have not only drinks to try but drinks to buy, the food is light bar foods, if you want quality mead this is the place. If you need mead for the holidays, your chances to stop by here are slim to none don't bother stopping by there on holidays otherwise you'll be left with a closed door and disappointment. Even on the website they don't say they're closed on the holidays but they will be. So I'd suggest unfortunately preparing before the holidays, (to the staff please fix that because I was really planning on getting mead for the holidays).
