My husband gets food from here at least a couple of times/month, for many years. I’m sure we’ve spent $1000s here, and we’ve recommended it several times, often saying it’s the best in Portland. It has slipped a bit and we don’t really say it’s the best any more, but still go & pick up quite a bit. It is one of the shops open the latest in the area. I recently picked up a to go of his usual order, ramen & gyoza, and added the kaarage. I got in the car, reviewed the order, saw that the gyoza was burned, and took it back in to get it remade. I showed the cashier thinking it was kind of funny how burnt it was, expecting them to be like oh my gosh how did those even go out let’s get new ones for you, but they looked at me like I was a little out of pocket &, said “that’s how it always looks”, they pan fry then & that’s from the pan”. I’ve had it several times too & it hasn’t looked that that way, but the way it was said I felt kind of dumb & rude for suggesting it was burnt. I think I actually apologized. My husband assures me I am not crazy - they are not served this way. And they tasted awful, that slightly sweet thing that meat does when it’s going off. They are $12. I called the store the next day to talk with management about it, left a message, but didn’t hear back. The chicken kaarage was also not great, with mushy breading, the ramen was even more average when it used to be great, but the bold faced gaslighting about the gyoza is what is just bonkers, and so rude, and frankly disrespectful. So many businesses out there that respect your time & money & what they do - please support one of them instead. This is ridiculous.

I can overlook the wierd structure for seating and doing the waiting list. Unfortunately the food was 90% plating and lacked in flavor. We tasted almost every small plate and the chili oil wontons were the only thing that tasted good. One of the unfortunate dangers of vegan food is that textures and flavors can start to blend together. In this case much of the fillings were monotone flavored mush. I like vegetarian and vegan food, but this missed the mark.The plating was gorgeous. However, I couldn't honestly recommend this place. Luckily the pricing was fair, so I didn't feel too out of pocket.
