Potsdamer Platz, once a bustling square before World War II, fell into disrepair due to the ravages of war. However, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, it experienced a revival with companies like Sony and Daimler establishing their headquarters there. Additionally, cultural attractions such as the Deutsche Kinemathek museum and Theater am Potsdamer Platz contributed to its rejuvenation.
It's one of my favourite spaces in Berlin. It's modern. It looks into the future. Buildings are astonishing, interesting mix of architectural genres. This place hosts so many events. Berlinale is an annual one where Berlin transforms in a star venue. Very beautiful at night!

Fun spot with a lot going on. There are plenty of shopping options and places to eat. And easy to get to with the subway system and a lot of options to head to other areas from there.
Dylan K — Google review
We had a great time visiting the Berlin Wall exhibit near Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz. It was a powerful and educational experience, especially sharing it with the kids. Seeing the actual remnants of the Wall sparked some meaningful conversations about history, freedom, and unity. The displays around the site are very informative, with photos and facts that helped us understand the significance of this area during the Cold War. We learned how Potsdamer Platz was once a desolate “no-man’s land” and is now a vibrant part of the city — such a striking transformation! It’s a quick stop, but packed with history. A great way to introduce kids to this important piece of the past while enjoying all the excitement Berlin has to offer nearby. Highly recommend!
Alejandro P — Google review

Historical place
The East Side Gallery is a preserved graffiti project covering a 1,316m-long remnant of the Berlin Wall in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. It celebrates the fall of the wall and features around 100 graffiti paintings by artists from all over the world.
A little way from the main tourist attractions, it’s a pleasant walk along the river Spree to see the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall. 1.3 km in length, decorated by over 100 artists with short information boards along the way. Here you get a feel of what a divided city this was. Only the 3.6 m inner wall remains but add the boundary signal fence, 3m border fence and a watchtower every 600 meters to appreciate how separate both sides must have felt.
Linda — Google review
I had to visit this place for my 3 days in Berlin and it didn't disappoint! Iconic to Berlin. Some are a trip and some I didn't get, but if you run into those you can walk right past to a new piece. Information on the artists is listed in front of the artwork. Super cool. I went solo I don't think I would want to go as a group by going solo you can spend time enjoying the parts you like and take it at your own pace.
James Y — Google review
An iconic open-air gallery full of history, emotion, and creativity. Each mural tells a unique story — from freedom and unity to peace and hope. Walking along the wall is both thought-provoking and inspiring. A must-visit in Berlin for anyone who wants to feel the city’s soul through art.
Alfred N — Google review
East Side Gallery – An iconic open-air landmark An absolutely iconic spot. It’s the longest preserved section of the Berlin Wall, stretching for about 1.5 km along the riverbank. Essentially, it’s an open-air museum showcasing creative, impactful, and often thought-provoking wall art from various artists. It’s definitely worth a visit, as it gives you a strong sense of what the divided city once looked and felt like. The artworks are unique, symbolic, and visually striking. It's also a great place for those classic “Berlin” hype photos. Many murals even include QR codes that provide background information about each piece. A small warning: the area is very busy and there are quite a few pickpockets around. Just keep an eye on your belongings so that this otherwise great experience isn’t spoiled. Overall, a must-see in Berlin.
Christos S — Google review
The East Side Gallery offers a wonderful walking experience filled with vibrant, amazing murals that vividly capture the history and spirit of Berlin. The artwork not only celebrates freedom but also includes clean, powerful graffiti that traces the story of the Berlin Wall dividing East and West Germany.Beyond the murals, the park behind the wall provides a peaceful and picturesque spot to relax after the walk, making the entire visit both culturally enriching and refreshing. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in history, art, and the unique atmosphere of Berlin.
A — Google review
As the history of Berlin is very dictated by the wall that separated it, very good to see it and easy to imagine how it would feel for the people living in the same city but separated from this giand wall. Also i liked that in the park nearby was a lot a people who were chilling, playing and having fun 🌞
Valdrin A — Google review
It was amazing to see the Berlin Wall up close, covered in murals that are not just beautiful but also carry powerful messages. For me it had historic moments to things that still feel relevant today. The walk isn’t too long, and every few steps there’s another piece of art that makes you stop and think. Definitely worth visiting.
Nabeel Z — Google review
I really enjoyed looking across at all the art and little tags locals and others had made on the wall, took plenty of photos. One thing that did irritate me slightly was the amount of attention the picture of the two men kissing got was ridiculous, also it was so crowded at this specific picture that it was almost impossible to take a photo of it and even walk past it, people by this specific picture were also very rude pushing others out of the way. It really upsets me because so many of the other pictures barely had any attention when I would argue there were so much nicer than the one stated above

Savignyplatz is a charming tree-lined square located in the upscale Charlottenburg neighborhood of Berlin. Divided by a bustling road, this landscaped green space features beautiful flowers and sculptures, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or evening meeting. The area is surrounded by upscale shops, restaurants, and cafes offering various cuisines such as Italian and Spanish tapas. Visitors can enjoy modern Italian cuisine with international influences in a Mediterranean ambiance at the local eateries.
Beautiful little park. Wish people would not use graffiti, but they do. Still a very nice park.

One of my favorite places to stroll in Berlin. It is usually very quiet except for occasional couples or families strolling in the park. Lots of benches for resting as well, although these are usually occupied in the afternoon to evening. The shops around the area seem to be small mom-and-pop stores, and most shop owners are very cheery and friendly. They sell postcards for cheap (unlike in more touristy places like Alexanderplatz).

Lovely small square and district in western Berlin. Nice place for an evening meeting, walking and eating out. A lot of nice and busy restaurants and cafes with various types of cuisine - Spanish tapas, Italian trattoria etc.

This is special area within Charlottenburg district. A lot of cozy bars and restaurants, but also is a pleasure to have a walk around that area specially in summer season. It’s also close to one of most beautiful city streets and shopping areas.

Great place to sit in the sun and have a drink. Also great book shop on the south side of the square and lots of cafes. Also Aanda, a brilliant dress shop. (been there for 40 years or so!!)

The park itself isn't anything special. The grass is fenced off so you must stick to the few benches on the sides. But the area is nice and is full of great little restaurants.

Görlitzer Park, also known as "Görli" to locals, is a popular and spacious public park in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. It was established on the former grounds of Görlitzer Bahnhof station and has a unique charm with remnants of its history still visible. The park offers various attractions including cafes, an indoor swimming pool, gardens, and a children's petting zoo.
The old train station is converted to a one of the biggest parks of Berlin. Don’t believe, that you can find there as plant just “cannabis”. There are lime trees, goosefoots, medicks, buglosses, yarrows as well. Lovely place during daytime.
Zafer T — Google review
I happened to visit the park around midday on a weekday. Most of the people on the benches were already tipsy. Drugs were being sold openly, which was interrupted for a minute when the police came by. Some areas are occupied by homeless people who sleep in tents in the park and leave their rubbish lying around. The term "park" doesn't really fit. I wouldn't want to experience this place late in the evening or at night.

Nice green park in a local neighborhood. Respectful dealers. Be polite and they will be polite. No problem.
Drew — Google review
Great place to hang out! There’s always something going on—people cycling, running, reading, playing disc, or just having picnics with friends. It can get a bit chaotic sometimes, but the park is surprisingly clean considering how many people visit. Lots of shops nearby too. Overall, a really nice spot to relax and enjoy.
Jibin J — Google review
It would be a cute place if it weren’t for the people constantly trying to sell you drugs. I was approached six times in just ten minutes of walking nearby. I can’t imagine what it’s like at night. 🙅
Jakub M — Google review
Walked through this park last year. Some young white man cycled past us on his bike and spat at us. Maybe homophobic. Unfortunately/ fortunately it hit a poor woman walking behind us. Who shouted at him. Same experience as most other people. The park is full of drug dealers and users. We got speaking to a young girl who worked in a cafe right in the park. She told us how woman had been raped and one person murdered inside the park and no one goes through there after dark. Real shame actually as it could be so nice. That’s why we close a lot of our parks in London at night time I guess. But especially for women please stay away from the park after dusk.

Görlitzer Park is a large and lively park in the Kreuzberg neighborhood of Berlin. It is easy to reach by public transport. The park is well maintained and has wide green areas for walking, relaxing, and playing sports. Many people come here to have a picnic or meet friends. There are benches and open spaces where you can sit and enjoy the sun. The park is especially nice in the spring and summer when the grass and trees are green. There are areas for children to play. Some spots are also used by skateboarders and cyclists. You can see people playing football or just walking their dogs. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Görlitzer Park is also a cultural spot. Street musicians sometimes play music and add life to the area. There are small cafes nearby where you can get a coffee or snack before entering the park. Overall, Görlitzer Park is a great place to spend time outdoors in Berlin. It is lively, green, and welcoming. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a casual place to relax or enjoy the city.

Nikolaiviertel, also known as the Nicholas Quarter, is a picturesque area in Berlin located just south of Alexanderplatz along the Spree River. It features pastel-painted merchant houses from the Middle Ages on cobbled streets around St. Nicholas' Church. This charming quarter has been restored to reflect its medieval and baroque eras with some contemporary touches. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through taverns and riverside restaurants while taking in the historical architecture.
LOVELY AREA!!!! 🥰 Definitely a TRUE hidden gem in the museum area. Like you’re back in time. Beautiful traditional architecture that traces back to years ago. A small little corner to look around and relax. Not many tourists after 6PM I think but before that, moderate number of tourists!

Nice place with lot of places to sit, eat or drink. It offers a great view to the river. It is located some blocks away from Alexanderplatz so you can reach it on foot.

A Hidden Gem That Feels Like a Time Machine ⏳✨ Nikolaiviertel is one of the most underrated yet magical spots in Berlin! As soon as I stepped onto the cobbled streets, I felt like I’d been transported straight into a medieval fairytale. The pastel-colored merchant houses, peaceful alleys, and old-world charm around St. Nicholas’ Church make it feel like you’re walking through history — but with a cozy, village vibe right in the heart of the capital. It’s quiet, picturesque, and the architecture is just wow! Great for photos, relaxing walks, or even just chilling with a coffee while soaking up Berlin’s rich past. Everything is beautifully preserved, and there’s this calm atmosphere that makes you forget you’re in a major city. Highly recommended if you want to take a break from the usual tourist hustle. Trust me, this place is a whole mood. 💫 📍Perfect for IG shots, peaceful moments, or deep convos with friends!

A medieval beautiful oasis in the middle of busy Berlin - this little area surrounding the Nikolai church was pur favourite spot in Berlin. Many beautiful restaurants for a nice peaceful dinner or just a lovely stroll
Ana S — Google review
We were walking and found this cute church. We tried to go in, but it was closed for renovations. The area around it has some nice little shops, and it's pretty quiet.
J C — Google review
If you’re looking to take a break from Berlin’s modern, fast-paced vibe and step into a quieter, more historic corner of the city, Nikolaiviertel is the perfect spot. Located along the Spree River and just a short walk from Berlin Cathedral, this neighborhood is considered the oldest residential area in Berlin. It feels like a time capsule from the Middle Ages, beautifully preserved and full of charm. The narrow cobblestone streets, colorful façades, traditional German restaurants, and small boutique shops make it a great destination for photography lovers and anyone interested in history or local culture. At the center of the district stands the Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas Church), a must-visit historical site. If you’re a history enthusiast, don’t miss the small museum inside. What I loved most was the peaceful atmosphere. It’s not overly crowded, which makes it ideal for a relaxing walk or a coffee break. Sitting at one of the cafés by the river and enjoying the calm surroundings is truly a treat. In the evening, as the street lamps light up the area, the entire district takes on a magical, almost cinematic feel. Nikolaiviertel is one of those rare corners of Berlin that, although rebuilt after the war, has managed to retain its soul. If you’re visiting the city, I highly recommend carving out some time to explore this charming neighborhood—it’s a lovely way to connect with Berlin’s past beyond the usual tourist trail.

Just a ten minute walk from the tv tower in Alexander platz walk towards the Neptune fountain then cross the road to your left just past the big imposing commerce building with the bear flag on the roof take a sharp right where you see the twin towers of the church .there are some nice cafes and shops plus the museum and the church to visit half an hour to look around is all you need but I would suggest a little longer to really have a look around the area xx

The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century landmark in Berlin, featuring 12 Doric columns topped by a classical goddess statue. It holds great historical significance as a symbol of German reunification and was once off-limits to both West and East Germans during the Cold War era.
It's the most iconic landmark of Berlin and probably the whole of Germany. A great place to stand and think about all the history that has taken place there, and as such it's a popular and lively place to be, especially in the evenings. I visited twice, once in the evening (lady singing protest songs, guys making bubbles for little people to pop, loads of families out and people taking photos) and once at 7am on Sunday morning (I was literally the only person there as the sun was rising); you choose which vibe suits you best!

An absolutely iconic landmark standing here feels like stepping right into history! 🇩🇪 The architecture is breathtaking, especially at sunset when the lights make it glow beautifully. The atmosphere around the gate is lively yet peaceful, with street performers, photographers, and tourists from all over the world. It’s not just a monument it’s a symbol of unity and freedom. Perfect place for amazing photos, evening walks, and soaking in Berlin’s rich culture. Definitely a must-visit in Germany! ✨

A symbol of German unity and European peace, this site is an essential visit when in Berlin. It serves as a profound reminder of historical events. Visited September 2025. This was my first stop after arriving in Berlin. It is a real cool Roman style gate. The details in the design are elegant. This is a good starting point for traveling around the area to see a large number of historical attractions.
Josh H — Google review
It’s a must see in Berlin as it forms the backdrop to so much of Berlin’s history. We arrived just after 9 on a Monday morning before the crowds arrive, but even at 4 in the afternoon there was no problem moving through the area. The U-Bahn has a stop in Unter den Linden within 100 metres of the gate, and the road is generally closed to traffic. There are good interpretive signs about the various architectural and decorative aspects of the structure. The Berlin Wall line lies just to the east of the Gate and can be followed throughout the city. There are a number of eateries in close proximity, from street food to restaurants, as well as other historical locations.

The Reichstag Building, a Neo-Renaissance parliament structure, boasts a striking Norman Foster-designed glass dome offering panoramic views of Berlin's government district. Despite enduring damage from fires and air raids in the 20th century, the building has been meticulously restored. Visitors can explore its historical significance, including Soviet graffiti from the Battle of Berlin.
If you do one thing In Berlin, it should definitely be this place! The views are incredible and the architecture of the dome is amazing. I am afraid of heights and I certainly didn’t expect to love it so much, not even a wobble! It strangely feels so safe. Incredible! It’s free to visit but Make sure you book on their website to visit the earlier the better! As we did and you should hear back very quickly. There is security to go through and the lift to the top is not all glass.

An amazing building to visit when in Berlin. Tickets must be booked well in advance. We booked for breakfast which was delicious with excellent views of Berlin. You cannot get in the restaurant unless you have booked . We were so glad we did . We arrived before our allotted time as it takes time to go through security. Once in you are free to explore the Norman Foster glass dome with 360 degree views of Berlin. It is an impressive structure to top such an iconic building. A real mix of modern and classical architecture with so much history
Christine A — Google review
One of the most famous tourist attractions in Berlin. You need to book online before visiting the building and the dome. Interesting historical building with a modern glass dome. The architecture is impressive, but the visit feels a bit overrated. Long waiting times and security checks make the experience less enjoyable. The view from the dome is nice, but not as spectacular as expected.
Yusuf E — Google review
One of the best things I did whilst in Berlin. From the famous dome you can see across Berlin, allowing you to see uninterrupted sights of the cities best and most famous locations. When you reach the top floor, make sure to pick up a pamphlet on your left. This will show the whole panoramic view from the top of the dome. It points out major sights, including some of the prettiest buildings I’ve ever seen. Once you reach the top, the open air dome with seats around the centre allow you to sit or lay back and relax. For our mad touristy day this made a nice break. I could sit here for hours. I’m confused why it isn’t busy as it was a spectacle every tourist needs to see! Security is tight as this is the main government building in Germany. Many high profile politicians and government officials come here daily. Make sure to bring some IDENTIFICATION if you don’t you will be refused entry! Bags are also searched. One of my favourite parts of my trip! Would recommend to everyone.
R. G — Google review
The sheer size of the structure is simply enormous. When I first saw it, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s a marvel to witness how they managed to construct an entire structure and place a modern dome on top. The entrance to the building is well-organized and heavily guarded, which is completely justified. As you ascend to the dome, you can explore the surrounding areas. It’s an incredible experience to walk up the slope of the dome to reach the top. At the base of the dome, you can learn about the building’s history and how the German government has evolved over time. The views are breathtaking, so I highly recommend hiring you to recommend this place to everyone. You will need to make sure to make arrangements ahead of time to visit this place. Ticket is a must and needs to be planned in advance.
Anand — Google review
I first went to the front lawn of the Reichstag and then rode around the Spree to catch a glimpse from across the river. It looked majestic from every direction. Standing there gave me a perspective — life can be cruel, but these monuments have witnessed history, stood the test of time, and still remain strong.

The Topography of Terror, also known as the Museum of the Gestapo, is a modern center located on the former site of the Gestapo headquarters. It documents the horrors of Nazism and provides visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the SS and police operations during World War II. The main exhibit showcases documents, photographs, audio, and film to highlight the crimes committed during this dark period in history.
A learning experience, it takes you through history chronologically, which is very interesting. We had a guide beforehand that had given us lots of stories of escape attempts and interesting facts which nicely framed the visit. Certainly woth a visit and quite mind blowing how relatively recent this was still the status Quo
Tom B — Google review
A totally shocking museum of the horrors of the Nazi regime. It is an extensive documentation of the brutal treatment of certain sections of society that did not fit in with the party's ideals. An outside display covers the pre-war to post-war eras and inside the museum large displays are enhanced by information boards covering aspects of the subject in more detail. A must visit museum if you are in Berlin. Can be busy with school groups. Free entrance.

The Topography of Terror is a powerful and very moving place to visit. The exhibition is well-presented, informative and deeply thought-provoking, showing the darkest part of German’s history. A must-see for anyone wanting to understand the city beyond its landmarks. This exhibition proves that Berlin doesn’t hide history, they learn from it.

If you’re interested in history, especially the events surrounding World War II and the Nazi regime, the Topography of Terror is a must-visit in Berlin. Located on the site where the SS and Gestapo headquarters once stood, this open-air and indoor museum offers a powerful and sobering look into one of the darkest chapters in human history. Through photographs, documents, and audio-visual materials, the exhibition presents a detailed account of how the Nazi regime used terror to control and persecute. The outdoor section also preserves part of the Berlin Wall, adding to the historical depth of the site. Admission is free, and it’s very well-organized, with information available in both German and English. It’s a moving experience that encourages reflection and understanding — not just of Germany’s past, but of the importance of human rights and democratic values today.

Located in the heart of Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie is a historic landmark that once served as the third checkpoint for immigration control during the Cold War. It separated the Soviet zone from the American sector and was a significant point for political visits and espionage activities. Today, visitors can explore its documentation center to learn about dramatic escapes, the Berlin Tank Crisis, and other historical events. Although it has become somewhat of a tourist attraction with reconstructed elements, it remains a powerful symbol of the Cold War era.
It’s free. You don’t need a tour guide to read to you what’s posted on the walls or make up exaggerated stories that you can google yourself. Unless you are that lazy, then pay someone to hold your hands. There is a long line in front of the US side of check point Charlie. Don’t wait there for a photo. Instead go to the back and you’ll get a better photo of both the US booth and the where the DMZ area and where the East German booth was. Side photos are also amazing. The is one last piece of the Berlin wall on display here next to the museum. You don’t need an entrance fee to the museum to see the wall. Also, there are literally tons of souvenir wall fragments being sold for over $30 each. Probably fake, some concrete and spray paint. I can’t believe how many people were lining up to buy these. They aren’t even works of art. Save your money on good German chocolate instead, made by a chocolate store not sold in a gift shop.
Luke — Google review
They tried to keep everything like in old times, really helps to imagine the atmosphere. But the best value to the place given by the museum, located next to checkpoint. Real life stories and historical facts are displayed in the museum
Sanjar M — Google review
Historic place with a lot of meaning, but quite touristy. The replica guardhouse and signs give you a feel of the Cold War era, and the info boards are interesting. Worth a quick stop, but the surrounding souvenir shops take away some of the atmosphere.

Not as busy as a thought. Very easy to get to, interesting piece of history. Don't go into the museum nearby, that's a scam. There is a better one down the street at Wilhelmstraße, that's free and has the actual berlin wall preserved with many interesting infographic
Zafri J — Google review
Overrated tourist trap some say however I'll never not visit on a trip to Berlin. We visited on a Saturday morning in October and it was so quiet, I was surprised as usually it's heaving. Got the obligatory photo in the rebuilt checkpoint area. A great learning opportunity for our children who have no idea of the scale of the east/wear divide during the 20th century.
Nicola D — Google review
There really aren't tickets. It is just a spot between two sides of a very small street. Should you go? If you have reasons, or even if you don't, it is a good idea to stop by, even if for a moment. Take time to think about being walled off from people you love, take time to think about the kind of austerity that was experienced here. Also be aware there are some interesting characters hanging around, especially at night. Some will stop you and offer a lecture or a tour or to answer questions for a fee. Might be okay, might not be. You must decide. Otherwise, it is surprisingly small. Maybe read up beforehand and visit other important sites before coming to this one so you will have a better sense of what it is about. Definitely worth a visit. It will give you the feels.
Ice Q — Google review

Very interesting, however not every animal was actually there to see. Some species of monkeys were not present. But monkeys are monkeys I guess. The cutest were the Pandas. The coolest was walking inside the cage where they kept some vultures and Owls. The nearly extinct sumatra tiger is the most interesting for me because fewer than 400 of them remain. I recommend you buy the tickets online on their website!

I had an amazing time visiting the Berlin Zoo. It’s one of the most impressive and well-organized zoos I’ve ever been to. The variety of animals is outstanding — from giant pandas and big cats to exotic birds and unique species you rarely see elsewhere. Each enclosure is spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed to resemble the animals’ natural habitats. The zoo is also beautifully landscaped, making it a pleasure to walk around. There are plenty of shaded paths, resting areas, and great spots for families with children. The staff are friendly and always ready to share interesting facts about the animals. Overall, the Berlin Zoo offers a wonderful experience for visitors of all ages. It’s educational, entertaining, and truly memorable. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Berlin!
Life G — Google review
This is the best zoo I’ve seen so far. Exploring it takes at least 4–5 hours. And if you’re planning to visit the aquarium as well, it will take almost a full day. Make sure not to leave without seeing the pandas.
Recep B — Google review
My spouse and I recently visited Berlin Zoo, and while we really enjoyed seeing animals whose populations are declining worldwide—and animals that we, as humans, normally wouldn’t have the chance to see in their natural habitats—there were several things that left us disappointed. A large number of the birds were kept indoors and out of sight due to the cold weather, which is completely understandable, but still unfortunate for visitors. The reptiles and invertebrates section, which is one of the three main parts of the aquarium, was entirely closed because of renovations. Besides that, several other large areas of the zoo were also closed and inaccessible for the same reason. Despite all this, and without clear prior information, we paid nearly 70 euros for two people on a weekday, which left us quite upset. I strongly believe that by paying this amount, we deserved to experience the entire park—otherwise, the ticket price should have been lower.
AD A — Google review
The zoo was beautiful, very well designed, and we really loved it. Even though it was raining, it was still super comfortable, with plenty of impressive indoor areas. Highly recommended!

The most beautiful Zoo that my husband and I have visited. 🥰 It's really huge. 😁 You need to reserve a whole day for the excursion. Unfortunately, we didn't have that time. 😓 Because this Zoo has really beautiful enclosures for the animals. The animals are in the best condition. They are really happy. 😌😍 The workers takes very good care of the entire Zoo. We liked everything here. 😍 Unfortunately, we're sorry that we didn't see everything. However, the price for admission is good and acceptable.👍😊

Museum Island is a small island located in the Spree River and is home to a collection of five renowned museums.
In the heart of Berlin, Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses five of the city’s most important museums. Ancient artifacts at the Pergamon Museum or classical art at the Alte Nationalgalerie, this island offers a cultural treat.
Ana S — Google review
Impressive architecture, but limited overall experience Museum Island’s building architecture is truly stunning — the classical facades and grand structures are a visual treat and stand out beautifully against the backdrop of Berlin. However, beyond the exterior, I found the overall experience somewhat underwhelming. While Berlin itself offers many architectural marvels and vibrant cultural scenes, Museum Island didn’t feel as engaging or unique as expected. Worth a visit for the architecture alone, but perhaps not a must-see if you’re short on time.
Ashvin K — Google review
Museum Island is one of Berlin’s main cultural attractions, bringing together several important museums in one place. The architecture is impressive, and the area is easy to walk around. I visited in the morning and the colonnade with its garden and sculptures was open and free to enter. It’s a good spot to learn, explore, and spend a few hours.
Hasham Q — Google review
A UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising five major museums on one island. It’s a great place to stroll round and soak up the atmosphere even if you don’t visit a Museum. Lots of building works but still an enjoyable experience.
Linda — Google review
Museum Island is one of Berlin’s most impressive highlights—a UNESCO World Heritage Site that brings together five major museums on a single, stunning island. Whether you step inside or simply walk around, the atmosphere is rich, historic, and beautifully immersive. The island is home to the Pergamon Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Neues Museum, Altes Museum, and Bode Museum—each offering something unique, from ancient civilizations and archaeological wonders to classical art, sculpture, and cultural history. Even with some construction happening around the area, the charm of the place remains untouched. The architecture across the island is truly remarkable and feels different from the rest of Berlin—grand, elegant, and full of character. It’s always busy with tourists, yet surprisingly clean and well-kept. Just be mindful of the usual tourist traps nearby.
Vidya H — Google review
If you want to experience the beauty of Berlin as a tourist, this is the number 1 place to be. The architecture here is unparalleled compared to the other parts of the city. It was also astonishingly clean although it is full of tourists all the time. You will need to be extra cautious in this area. Beware of people who make who sign on a form to support children and then ask for money. Don't fall for them.

Jewish Museum Berlin is a remarkable fusion of history, architecture, and emotion. The museum's contemporary design by Daniel Libeskind is a striking contrast to the 18th-century building it intersects with. Visitors are led through exhibits that trace German-Jewish history and confront the horrors of the Holocaust. The space itself is disquieting yet perversely beautiful, with slanting floors and jutting walls creating an order-less environment that reflects the tumultuous history it represents.
very emotional visit, heavily recommended for any history fans as this museum is beautiful and very big. we spent around 3 hours exploring the different rooms and its free to get into! just make sure you get a physical ticket from the ticket desk

At the beginning I was difficult for me to get into the dynamic of the concept of this museum but it can be my issue. Later on the museum turned into a great place with abundant information and interesting facts. I highly recommend to vaiit it
Jorge G — Google review
Incredible museum both in terms of its architecture and preservation, as well as the quality and depth of its exhibits. It not only informs the visitors about the basics of Jewish identity (culture, religion, etc.) but also the history of Jewish people specifically in Germany which was really interesting. There are haunting and beautiful exhibits and memorials to victims of the Holocaust as well.
Arseni K — Google review
The architecture itself is stunning and incredibly powerful—it really makes you think. The exhibits are well put together and cover a huge amount of history, giving a deep look into the Jewish experience in Germany. It’s an incredibly moving and thought-provoking visit.
Danny S — Google review
Unbelievable exposition. The history and art blend together. Fair warning you will need minimum of 3 hours to go through
Arcady R — Google review
Incredibly intresting and well-done museum. First of all, the architecture of buildings itself is a piece of art. Every detail is making sense. It’s better to have minimum of 2 hours to see the core exposition. There no entrance fee + you can download free app with audio-guide in different languages.
Konstantin — Google review
You visit an old building and walk from the inside to the new one. Except for the style of the new building (minimal with edges and cuts) that creates the illusion of the void and has an inclination at the basement and the garden, nothing else really makes you feel anything. It seems like the Jewish people wanted to have a museum for their artists, rather than shouting the genocide

The Gemäldegalerie, also known as the Old Masters Museum, is a modern museum in Berlin that houses an impressive collection of European paintings from the 13th to 18th centuries. It features works by renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Botticelli, Durer, and Titian.
Beautiful, large art museum of classical paintings with many religious artworks. It was also wonderful to visit a mostly empty museum and really get to enjoy the masterworks in peace; the velvety colored walls are also beautiful. Highly recommend for art lovers!
Wan Q — Google review
Beautiful building and extensive collection of classical art, however, absolutely unprofessional and rude staff. The lady at the ticket desk was extremely unpleasant and confrontational to the point of ruining our whole experience. It’s a pity, because the museum itself is worth a visit.
Ivans N — Google review
It is one of the best collections I've seen in a not-very-crowded place. But we're in bad weather on a weekday, so I recommend visiting it on a weekday if you can! We got reasonably priced yearly passes that cover most of the Berlin Museums, with a few located nearby. Maybe a nice Caffé with a better selection would be the only thing to improve the entire experience. Very limited, generic, sad, and pale sandwiches don't match exquisite art gallery offerings.
T L — Google review
I am absolutely sold on this gallery. It shows art from Germany, Italy, Holland and England. All art from the beginning of the 13th century. There was way to go as instructed and the rooms were colored by nations. The Italian room had works of Caraveggio and there were two paintings from Vermeer in the Dutch. One of those is said to be worth above 200 million dollars. The building was under renovation. We found a docent that was full of information that he was eager to share. There were guided tours available. Whilst in middle of Berlin on a Saturday there were very few guests and it was a pleasure to stroll through the museum. Afterwards we had coffee and cake in the upstairs Café that was decorated in a modern art deco style. The museum shop was extensive with a large array of books, posters and trinkets. I am happy to go once more. For those lovers of older art paintings it is a must.
Ole K — Google review
An imensely diverse collection in a very large building. The paintings go on and on and I highly suggest to pick a room or era to view. Try not to see everything in one visit to avoid an overkill on art. A must for any lover of paintings.
Carl P — Google review
Such an amazing arte gallery with masterpieces from the 13th to the 18th century. You can pick up an audio guide for free at the desk, the guide is amazing, so many interesting things to find out about the painters and their paintings. There is an option to only look at the highlights of the gallery, the audio guide is a phone which displays the map of the museum and where each highlight is located. I tool me about 2 and a half hours to visiti these highlights. But really everything is so amazing I could easily spend half a day in there. I will definetly visit this place again when I am in Berlin.
Sergej A — Google review
Huge art gallery where by one afternoon was not enough! The cost was very good as you can buy a ticket for all the exhibitions (i.e., temporary visiting) at €20 an adult and half price for students. Take advantage of the lockers as you can't walk around with big bags, it's warm too, so leave your coat behind. Cafe is worth a visit, too.
Claire P — Google review
Works of art are first rate with major masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Durer, Botticelli, Raphael, and many more. However, the installation is seriously antiquated, the wall covers filthy, and explanatory material scarce. It is no wonder that even on the weekend, attendance was sparse.

Historical landmark
Markthalle Neun is a historic market hall in Kreuzberg, Berlin, dating back to the late 19th century. It serves as a regular grocery shopping spot for locals and hosts various culinary events such as Street Food Thursday, where visitors can enjoy traditional and innovative meals from diverse international stalls. The venue also holds other food-related events like the Berlin coffee festival, breakfast market, artisan wine fair, and cheese market.
I loved this place! You can find food for all tastes and all the market looks so cute. I tried the marzipan ice cream at Rosa Canina, they have nice flavors and you can choose from different sizes. I got the smallest cup. Also, went to Mani in Pasta to try their fresh pasta made by Italians with their amazing sauces! You will not regret eating here. All prices are pretty affordable and you can eat from different stalls.

Would definitely recommend to go to this market! They had all types of foods to choose from. I got the Mac n cheese which was so good! The margarita pizza was also good!

Markthalle Neun is definitely one of those places that captures the real, vibrant energy of Kreuzberg. It's an old market hall, beautifully restored, and it pulses with a modern-day foodie vibe. Whenever I visit, I’m struck by the sheer variety: from artisanal cheeses and craft beers to street food from all corners of the world, there’s always something new to try. It feels like a genuine community hub, not just a tourist trap, even though it draws plenty of visitors. The atmosphere is fantastic — buzzing with conversation, the clinking of glasses, and the smells of delicious food. It’s the perfect spot to spend a few hours grazing, sharing plates with friends, or just soaking up the lively scene. You'll find everything from fresh produce stands to specialized coffee roasters, making it a great place to pick up unique local goods. Now, a small personal observation: if you're someone who likes a traditional soda with your meal, you might be a bit surprised. I’ve noticed a lack of standard cola options like Pepsi or Coca-Cola. It seems they lean heavily into artisanal drinks, local lemonades, and craft sodas, which aligns with their overall philosophy of local and unique products. While it’s certainly an interesting approach and fits the "conscious consumer" vibe, sometimes you just crave a classic. So, if a traditional cola is a must-have for you, keep that in mind and perhaps grab one beforehand.Despite that minor point, Markthalle Neun remains a firm favorite. It’s a celebration of good food, community, and the dynamic spirit of Berlin. Whether you’re going for a full meal or just to explore, it’s an experience that feels genuinely local and incredibly rich.
A — Google review
A handsome, historic market hall in Kreuzberg with a strong food culture focus, Markthalle Neun brings together independent vendors, workshops, and rotating events in a lively setting. The big draw is Street Food Thursday—Germany’s pioneering weekly street-food market—when the hall buzzes with aromas, music, and plenty of choice from early evening into the night. Expect regional and artisanal products throughout the week, plus wine, coffee, and specialty counters that make browsing fun. On peak nights it’s very lively and seating can be scarce, so it’s worth timing your visit; quieter weekday afternoons showcase the space and stalls at a gentler pace. Overall, a good stop for curious eaters who enjoy browsing, with the experience shining most when you catch it at the right moment
Josep P — Google review
Visited during street food Thursdays a few times and it’s always a fun affair. Been to a bunch of the stalls but there’s so many more I haven’t tried. The place is full of rich and enticing aromas so just follow your nose on a worldly adventure. Worth a trip over to sip wine or a cocktail while you eat yummy oysters, Turkish pizza, fufu, and whatever else your heart desires. They have pretty much everything in that market. Washrooms could be cleaned and restocked more. There was no soap and the tap only gives you a trickle of water. This was ~4:30pm when I last visited.
Justine Y — Google review
What a experience! We ate a lot and we Tried everything! The market is clean and very well organized, the food is good as the service. The quality of food makes the diffrence. The area is very diverse. P.s. pay attention outside the nearest underground station! There's a lot of drug addicts they stop you to consume and sell.. One of our friends step into a syringe
Christian G — Google review
Really cool place to try street food on Thursdays. The highlight there is the cheese festival. It is definitely a must visit in Berlin..however, the cost has doubled from last year which made it too expensive. The place itself is big but can get super crowded. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great.

A pretty local market with fresh food, flowers, bread, and sausages! I truly enjoyed my time looking around trying little bit of everything! Locals also came for lunch having wine, burgers, and other food. There is a little seating area by the bread store ◡̈

The Berlinische Galerie, located in the trendy Kreuzberg district of Berlin, is a modern museum showcasing fine art, photography, and architecture from 1870 to the present day. Established in 1975, it offers a comprehensive overview of Berlin's art history with a focus on modernist movements such as Dada, Surrealism, Die Brucke, and the Secessionists.
Really gorgeous and culturally significant art work. Plaques were in German and English and many pieces has tactile versions for the visually impaired. Took about 2 to 2.5 hours to tour museum. Entry was about 10 euros.
Sydney V — Google review
A very enjoyable experience! The Berlinische Galerie offers a fresh and thoughtful look at modern art from Berlin. The exhibitions are well-curated and the space itself is clean, quiet, and easy to navigate. I especially liked the photography section and the way local history is connected to the artworks. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish there had been a bit more variety in the permanent collection. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re into modern art or just want something a little off the usual museum track in Berlin.
Bahman G — Google review
A great mix of contemporary and art history. The Monira Al Qadiri show had one of the most riveting video pieces I have seen to date. Seeing works by Hannah Hoch and El Lissitzky were icing on the cake. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're in Berlin!

I always visit this gallery on a visit to Berlin. Some truly inspiring shows have been displayed over the years in a great quiet space. Texts in English and German to offer context to the artworks on display. Free lockers to use which is always handy too.
Robin R — Google review
I absolutely adored this museum. At the time of my visit there were two worthwhile exhibits and they deserved a good amount of attention each: 1 about the history of the collection and Germany as a collective item, and the second regarding work with unknown backgrounds or those in need of additional resources to secure information on province. A great place to go both for art and for German history. A+!

Amazing art gallery with well curated exhibits. Visited during fall season & it was quite peaceful with a moderate crowd. An absolute recommend if you're within Kreuzburg district!
Christine D — Google review
Beautiful gallery with a beautiful art and thoughtful presentation. Permanent exposition is a must see for art lovers, as it represents a pointed view at German art, particularly the art connected with Berlin. And temporary expositions bring your attention to specific artists, either modern ones, or interesting ones form Berlin's past. The size of the gallery makes it possible to see everything in 2-4 hours. Having visited on Friday in August, we had the luxury of no queue at the ticket counter and of half-empty gallery halls. On our previous visit on Saturday in November several years ago, the gallery was very crowded with a long queue to enter it. So you should plan your visit's time considering this. The gallery is located in a quiet part of former Western Berlin, with a lot of greenery and difficult to find parking (costly, too).

I thought this place would be small and so I only allocated a small portion of time. I arrive about an hour before they closed and immediately regretted it. I was only able to hurriedly tour the painting portion, but what I did see, was incredible. Cool exhibitions, but mean staff and very boring excursions that don’t reveal any interesting information. The whole hour was about the comparison of sketches with some statues of the antique times… I guess it’s a German thing, or maybe it’s the museum.

An extra-ordinary collection of art. Good idea to be there when it opens as you can then have the galleries almost to yourself. I had the room with the two Vermeers to myself for over 5 minutes. If you give it a chance (waiting in line for more than 4 hours), you’ll see it’s worth it. Mind blowing and life changing experience. Do your homework in order to increase chances to get in and avoid frustration of wasting your time by checking what is the party this day and what is the dress code. And it’s not that difficult. Got in (JULY 2025, FRIDAY) with two friends on my first try. But for one of us it was her second. DJ booth set up is the most insane (in a good way) thing I’ve seen ever and the music was amazing! Did this and Rave the Planet this year in the same 24 hours (safe to say my month in Berlin was phenomenal). Thank you for the experience! Don’t listen to anything “the haters” say about this place - it’s worth it. The people who ran the door were quieter but nice to me and my friends (it was only three of us - we are all black women and we’re treated with kindness from staff and clubbing patrons so I really liked that a lot - which unfortunately I can’t say for my home country at the moment in USA) so again please don’t listen to the rumors… just show up with hopes to get in… if you don’t you’re already dressed to go out and there are a few other clubs not too far away (or hop on the bahns which aren’t far even by American standards lol) For those looking for tips on getting in: I have none, they didn’t let the people in front of our group in or behind us and I wasn’t really paying attention as to why that might have happened so I’m sorry… we did however get in line at about 12:45am and the queue was about 40ish minutes before we went inside with only a few entries every 15/20 minutes… (they have declined Elon Musk and Rihanna at the door so I think it’s moreso about how you are and not who you are or could be AKA leave your ego at home, it won’t help you…. and the entry team do it WELL because the patrons are all really kind people who are friendly and fun). Overall try to go and JUST relax in line! Give the queue a shot (maybe be ready to wait awhile though) and be ready to dance! We left at around 5:30am (went out the night before to a really rooftop bar/club place in neukolln until 4am and have the parade in a few hours otherwise I would have stayed much much longer and recommend you stay for at least two DJ sets - 6/7 hours) and I was staying at the LOCKE which was only a few minutes away walking. Outside the club (whenever you are done) there are 10+ taxi/ubers waiting for people - so if your phone dies inside. Don’t worry about it because you will be able to find a ride home. I would have went back the next night again solo after rave the planet but I was extremely tired. I had a really amazing time and thank you again for the experience. I will try to get back in the next time i go. But please be aware that this is a place for people to authentically be themselves and enjoy the best techno music out there. So be kind, everyone has feelings and will be really nice to you when you are inside. I would absolutely go alone next time if that were the case. Inside the club is also very safe, I never felt anything but that - if you aren’t having a good time inside there are regulars who are kind enough to help you if you’re having an emergency or want to meet new people. Everyone inside just wants EVERYONE to have a good time with them, which I think is the thing you MUST have to get in… an aura of authenticity and pure kindness. I’m not the typical techno clubbing person (this was actually my first rave ever, with my second being the next day at the parade and the third at Sisyphos - so I get why people are upset in the reviews but to be honest that’s probably why you didn’t get in… most people who “belong” there if they didn’t get in would be cool with it and try again another time. As I met someone (from Kentucky who moved to Luxembourg years ago) who got denied but then came back once more just to see and got in. He wasn’t angry or swore the place off after the first “no” - also he speaks German fluently and Luxembourgish so I’m not sure if that was a plus factor for him as none of my group spoke German - BUT everyone! in Berlin speaks English (and honestly I think most Germans). If you plan on going good luck getting in and I hope when you do (it could take a few tries) that you have an amazing night(s). We walked up at about 5am excited to see a beloved DJ from our home city. There was no one in line, it was totally silent. We walked up, explained we wanted to see, got a "no". This is where all the scathing entitled reviews come in, insulting people who got in, insulting the bouncers. I don't typically do exclusivity, but I would not have even tried for this place except for the knowledge that you are being rejected. So thank you for your one star reviews of encouragement. We ended up at the most perfect underground warehouse space. It was like time travelling. It felt like I was in something I thought only existed in memories and documentaries. The music, the grit, the rawness. It was unbelievable. Thank you for your no, Berghain. Maybe next time.

I was there just to take a pic of the entrance and i said, okay do the line, why not? actually i was with coffee hahaha and i get it, why? cause they feel your vibe, this is a GAY BAR, also you dont have to be afraid in the entrance or they smell it. Just have fun, this place is magic and unique. Don't kill the vibe if you think this is for you or you just want to entry for curiosity cause this is not for you. Amazing night hahaha for me, two hours, in real life, 12! hhahahah amazing

This place feels like the fine-dining equivalent of techno clubs. The sound quality and artist selection are excellent. The ventilation is outstanding- as a non-smoker, I wasn’t bothered by cigarette smoke at any point. The crowd size is kept at a reasonable level, giving you enough space to dance expressively while still being able to find a spot to chill whenever needed. The bouncers and staff may seem unfriendly at first, but once inside, you connect with genuine music lovers on the dance floor, who greet you with smiles and discreetly look out for you to make sure you’re doing well.

Please keep this place sacred. I got bounced twice, even after researching, knowing who was playing that night, etc. If you aren't vibing right, you probably won't get in. Thank you Berghain! I always struggled to understand techno and I now have a much deeper appreciation. It 100% deserves to be a Unesco site. I danced for 4 hours and it felt like 1 hour. The next day, I felt refreshed, despite the lack of sleep.
