Nestled in the heart of Japantown, Marufuku Ramen is a contemporary haven for ramen enthusiasts. Since its inception in 2017, this popular spot has expanded to multiple locations across California, Texas, and New York. The menu boasts an array of delectable options including authentic Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen—renowned for its milky, umami-rich broth crafted from slow-boiled pork bones and paired with ultra-thin artisanal noodles.
Delicious Ramen spot. I had the classic Tonkotsu Ramen. Good size, flavorful thick broth. It also comes with an egg which was perfectly cooked. Would definitely come back again. Expect a wait time on the weekend about 30 min.

This is my first time having ramen in the states after living in Asia for three years so I wasn't sure what to expect. I got the tonkatsu and the broth was pretty good but an ingredient was missing and I can't figure out what, maybe msg? The noodles were nice and thin as well as the charsiew which melts in your mouth since it's so fatty. I think two pieces isn't enough though considering how thin they are. Would need to order extra next time. The broth and bowl size is a good amount though. I think they're opening a branch in Serramonte which would be closer for me so pretty excited about that.
James — Google review
Upscale, very busy ramen spot with classic options and inventive specialities, boasting handmade fare. I prefer the thicker egg noddles served with the spicy (ground) chicken ramen compared to the thinner noodles in the standard chicken (breast) ramen. The broth is rich and creamy. The kid's plate comes with noodles, fries, veggies and karage. They offer Sapporro on tap and Asahi in bottles, and also have fun Japanese inspired lemonades like the Sakura lemonade.
Mark M — Google review
We don't come to Japantown often, but this place never disappoints. We had Chicken Karage (excellent), 1 Hakata Tonkotsu (mild), and 2 x Hakata Tonkotsu DX (spicy) all excellent !!! (7 pieces of Chicken Karage, took pix after eating three pieces) Great service, they definitely work as a collective team. Ready to take order and ready to give bill when you are ready to pay. Very responsive. The only downside, is they don't have restrooms in the restaurant. You have to use the mall's general public restrooms.
Andy W — Google review
One of the best ramen I’ve ever had! First of all, the server was very kind and informative. It was busy but she took her time to explain what is in each item. I’m glad I went with her recommendation, Hakata Tonkotsu DX. The broth was divine. The meat was so juicy and tender. The egg was boiled to perfection (jammy). Please give this place a try!

Marufuku Ramen is located on the second floor of the western portion of the Japan Center (officially “Japanese Cultural and Trade Center”) also known as Kinokuniya Mall which is named after a major Japanese bookstore 紀伊國屋 chain founded in 1927 along the adjacent Kabuki-Sundance Theater on 1737 Post in between Webster and Fillmore streets.[* The eastern portion of the Japan Center, the Kintetsu and Miyako Mall buildings with destinations to Daiso Japan, Benihana, Osakaya, Nijiya Market, etc. are also located on Post near the Peace Plaza between Laguana and Webster streets. Kintetsu Enterprises of America was the center’s key anchor owning and managing the Miyako Hotel and Kintetsu and Miyako Malls. Kintetsu Enterprises is said to be owned by the Kinki Nippon Railway that operated the largest private railway in Japan, which was founded in 1944 and based in Osaka, Japan.] ❶ The Dashi qualities of its variety such as tonkotsu, miso, paitan, shoyu or tantan ramen, are quite above average and really tasty. ❷ The ramen noodles are really good not too soft too hard or too thin but Chasu is little too salty probably due to marinated in too much soy sauce and too long. ❸ Other ingredients including kikurage shiitake (wood ear black mushrooms), bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, pickled red ginger, nori seaweeds (dried and thin sheets), scallions, sweet corn, and you know what, the seasoned soft boiled egg are not only delicious but also included in the original price tag. By far this is one of the BEST Japanese Ramen shop in The City. {Will revisit Yamadaya Ramen another well-reviewed place in Japantown in a few days and do a candid review by comparison. } PS The kanji for "Marufuku" (丸福) meaning (the “circle of good fortune”), combine 丸 (“maru”), meaning "circle," a drawing of a person tossing around while sleeping; and 福 (“fuku”), meaning “blessing” or "good fortune," stands for praying or worshiping. This combination, literally meaning "circle of good fortune. Muni Bus line 38 (“Geary”), 38R (“Geary Rapid” means few stops) stops on Laguna or Fillmore. 22 (“Fillmore”) stops at Fillmore and Post and 2 (“Sutter”) stops at Post/Laguna.

Had the ramen, chicken karage and pork baos We had the tonkatsu, the special tonkatsu and the tantan men. Noodles-The noodles used in tonkatsu are angel hair pasta like. I prefer the bouncy medium thickness noodles in hinodaya. Broth-The broth at marufuku is also heavier and thicker. Chasu-The chasu slices are different from other ramen shops where you get a spiral cross section. You get two irregular pork belly slices that look a little small Toppings are a little less here. Overall I ordered the soup of the tantan men. Karage was light and crispy. The baos were tasty with the glaze on the pork belly a little on the sweeter side.

The San Francisco Japan Centre location is a very popular spot, so be prepared for a potential wait, get your name on the list when arriving. Ordered the Pirikara Chicken Bites (Sauce is a little spicy if you don’t want spice order on the side), Gyoza, and Chashu Bowl (tender pork belly). All delicious options! Friends enjoyed the Hakata Tonkotsu DX dish and all loved the broth and homemade noodles. Option to get spice on the side for your ramen dishes to control your heat preference. Fun place and excellent service!

Hinodeya Ramen Japantown is a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts seeking an elevated dining experience in a sleek, modern setting. This beloved spot has introduced many to the art of dashi broth, particularly its signature fish stock-based creations that deliver a delightful umami flavor reminiscent of both uni and caviar. The meticulous preparation shines through in every bowl, especially when paired with whole-wheat noodles and tender chashu pork.
I absolutely love the Hamaguri Clam Ramen here! The clear, flavorful broth is perfect for someone like me who’s not into creamy soups. My friend ordered the Spicy Miso Butter Corn Ramen and fell in love with it at the very first sip. rich, bold, and super satisfying. We also tried several appetizers and every single one was delicious. Bonus points for the outdoor seating with a heater, which makes it so convenient for people like me who bring their fur baby along. Can’t wait to come back!

Ramen break in SFO! 🍜 Our family loves ramen, so while visiting San Francisco today, we checked out this cozy spot. It’s not a fancy restaurant, but the food was really good! I usually go for vegetarian ramen (because it’s often the only option), but this place had a chicken ramen made entirely with chicken broth—no pork or beef, which was a pleasant surprise! 🙌 It’s great to finally have more than one option when craving ramen. One small thing: I felt the veggie ramen was a bit too leafy—maybe they could balance it with some other veggies. Overall, really happy with the experience. Would definitely go back! 😊🍜

This place never disappoints. Generally, there is a line to get in. The atmosphere is lively when it’s busy. The place is about medium size, not too cozy and not that big. There is outside seating. The service is great. I’ve been here several times & always get the Creamy vegan ramen. It’s really good and tasty. My friends loved their ramen bowls and raved about the shishito peppers. I highly recommend this place.

Awesome service, staff, and style. Love the restaurant. The food was amazing and tasty. 2 bathrooms, and the ambiance is welcoming. Carlos answered my questions with such politeness. He even doubled checked to make sure he was correct in his response with his boss. I will 100% recommend this place to anyone and everyone, especially if traveling alone (like me). Glad there’s places like this that cater to tables for one!!!!

Great place for a Ramen fix! We stopped in on the earlier side of lunch on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The decor was your classic wooden Japanese style with plenty of seating. That said, the place itself had an interesting smell to it: almost a little sour and dank and unfortunately a little hard to ignore. That said, service was great and the staff was attentive and thoughtful. Moreover, the food arrived quickly and was presented just like they looked in the photos. We got four styles of ramen - house special spicy miso with buttered corn, classic house special ramen, the tonkatsu max, as well as the sukiyaki ramen. Ramen was pretty standard - noodles were cooked well and the flavor was okay (though not the strongest). And, the spicy noodle was very mild — even for mild. You can add spicy notches but note that each level does come with a cost. Convenient if you’re in the area but not the best ramen you can have.
Vivian W — Google review
My friend and I came into Hinodeya after a long walk around SF. I ordered the creamy vegan ramen and my friend ordered the Yuzu ramen. It was good! They have a drum in the entrance and everytime a customer comes in, they ring the drum to say “Warm Welcome “ or “Welcome “ in Japanese
Ingrid C — Google review
Authentic Japanese Ramen. We tried the level 1 & 2 spicy Ramen. Now no more selection of spicy levels. They give you spicy powder. Another day I ordered the vegetarian ramen to try. The noodle was green and soup was made from soy milk. It was surprisingly good. I also tried the other kind of vegan ramen. It’s also good. But I would say the vegetables are not enough from the nutritional standpoint. So If you ordered with some other vegetables, that would be perfect. Having said that, I really like the creamy vegan ramen! The outside seating is perfect for pet.

This place is highly rated for a reason, the food was superb, and the service was even better! Thank you so much to our server, (Ate) Paloma, she was so warm, welcoming and efficient when serving us. I'm absolutely coming back with more friends and family when I visit again! Thank you!!

Waraku is a modern restaurant adorned with artwork, offering creative takes on ramen and other Japanese dishes. Located in a bustling area with various dining options, it stands out for its iconic spicy and original ramen bowl offerings. The six-year-old establishment is known for its excellent Spicy Tan-Tan Noodles, featuring a bright red, tangy broth with porky sriracha flavors.
Being a lover or ramen and trying new foods, after looking up places online and their reviews, Wakaru was definitely a must try. The wait was not long at all for a table as I didn’t called ahead to make reservations. Order the kimchi cheese fries to start along w/ a Sukiyaki beef bowl the the Ramen. I believe it was the tonkotsu ramen dx but can’t recall. All the food tasted delicious, fries were crispy. Next time I’m in town I’ll be coming back to try more food here. Can’t forget the bottle of Yuzu, sucks they don’t sell it back at my home town. Such a refreshing soda
Sebastian T — Google review
Last time coming here was in 2015. Had great memories here. Just thought we would revisit. Seems like the restaurant has changed… in many ways. Menu has completely changed. Oh well. Give it a try anyways. Restaurant had two tables when we arrived at their opening at 11:30am. First impression, the server did not want to be there. He wasn’t rude or anything, but he was not pleasant to be around. Food was ok. By the time we were finished eating, there were no more customers around. Sadly, I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Danny Y — Google review
Have you ever had a room temperature ramen broth? Have you had stale, chewy corn? I am trying to understand how that's possible. I was the only person in the restaurant when they opened at 11:30 on a Saturday - did they serve me last night's leftovers?
Eric C — Google review
Nice ramen spot. Food and service was really good! I had the Black Garlic Deluxe and my wife got the Spicy Tantan Deluxe. Huge portions. Only thing I didn't like was paying the bill. They stand there next to you with a machine and review the bill with you. Then when you go to pay the lowest tipping option is 18% AND it's calculated with the SF Mandate included. Kinda shady in that regard. Other than that, great place for a nice bowl of ramen!
Alex S — Google review
I got the black garlic tonkatsu deluxe. It was delicious, I just wished that they had hot chili oil. We also ordered the appetizers and they were good. I like the geso fries alot. There was 1 server only when we came in and he was bussing his tables as well. There were many customers that came in, but they would leave due to the waiting and no service right away. That wasn't a problem to us.
Lai — Google review
It’s not a bad place - but it definitely wasn’t everything I was hoping for it to be. First off, I had my place in the waitlist (which is all by pen and paper) pushed after another party simply walked in and took our table, and the wait staff acted as if we hadn’t already been waiting 30 minutes and it didn’t just happen in front of us. It simply doesn’t feel like an inviting environment. The food is pricey, and just about what you can expect. Not a bad place to get ramen, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth that the ramen didn’t make up for. It’s not the worst choice out there, but there’s a lot of other good places in Japantown to go to.
Brandon L — Google review
Nice place for tasty broth, and I was surprised by the beef over 🍚. The Ramen was 😋 and since broth flavor is 95% of Ramen, the food is worth the wait. For those that like casual experiences.
Juan C — Google review
Really nice Ramen place minus the large waiting time! While we had gone to SF Japantown to eat at a different locale, most of the "famous" ramen bars were full. Luckily we found this one and boy weren't disappointed at all! Plus it's easy on the wallet as well 😄

Mensho is a Japanese ramen restaurant with locations in Tokyo and now SF. The Tenderloin outpost is currently the only one open, and the wait can be quite long, but it's worth it for the delicious bowls of noodles. They also offer ready-to-eat versions of their soba noodles for pickup and delivery.
Vegan ramen was definitely worth the wait we got the spicy options of both and they were great (garlic and mushroom ones)! Loved their fried mushrooms too! Highly recommend when in the city. Worth the hour wait
Sahil J — Google review
Opens at 4pm and the line starts forming. It is a small dining area…but worth the wait to taste this delicious broth and ramen. Regular and spicy options available on all Ramen choices. Scrumptious and filling, can’t wait to go back and try the A5 Wagyu Tantanmen!
KR A — Google review
Food is ok, not so good yet not so bad. The ramen lacks taste. The spicy corn wings were amazing. The edamame was cold served. Even though the restaurant is a Michelin guide SF, I don’t think it’s worth the try as many other places like ramen Nagi, Udon are much better.
YASHAS J — Google review
Mensho Tokyo SF is my favorite go-to ramen restaurant ever since I first went in 2022! I take all my friends and family here, and they love it too! My favorites are the Spicy Garlic Knockout with Ajitama, and the Spicy Toripaitan with Ajitama. Everything about the ramen is very delicious: the broth, egg, noodle texture, and toppings! I also like the Enoki Chips appetizer. Service is great, extremely kind and attentive servers! Thank you Mensho for such a great ramen experience!
Aly — Google review
A Strong 4.5, I loved that there are really ton on vegan options, in ramen and sides as well. I went for the spicy Vegan Tantamen ramen and I highly recommend it. The toppings are really good and well thought which is refreshing because most ramen places just add some mushrooms, corn and spring onions and call it a day (esp for vegan ramen) The vegan fried chicken is a MUST try. Do make sure to dunk it in the broth and try it out. The Negatives: 1. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy. When your wait time in the line is more than an hour on average, it really affects the experience. 2. On the pricier side.
Srinidhi B — Google review
Omg the ramen here is incredible! The weekend line is insane — we waited 1 hr 45 mins, but it was totally worth it. We tried the spicy vegan ramen and the extra spicy lamb ramen. The vegan one was the star: rich, flavorful, and that garlic bomb taste was unreal. The lamb ramen had great flavor but wasn’t very spicy, even though we ordered extra spicy — more like mild. Still, the overall vibe and quality were amazing. Definitely coming back to try more of their vegan options!
Vamsi C — Google review
Visited Mensho Tokyo SF and ordered the Duck Matcha Ramen with egg. This restaurant offers some unique ramen variations you won't find elsewhere in San Francisco. The Duck Matcha Ramen is visually striking with its green matcha broth and pink duck meat, but the flavor is quite unusual - the matcha soup base creates a taste that's very different from traditional ramen. Interesting to try once, but not something I'd order again. Service was great and staff was attentive. The restaurant space is small with mostly high seating and cubicle-style dividers between tables. Prices are on the higher side across the menu. If you're looking for creative, Instagram-worthy ramen and don't mind paying premium prices, it's worth a visit. Just manage expectations especially on the price if you prefer traditional ramen flavors.
Cantik — Google review
worth all the hype! mensho tokyo serves a variety of different ramens, all with distinct and top tier flavors. ingredients were fresh and noodles were perfectly chewy. wait around 5:30pm on a friday was only 15mins. overall, even though i’m not a big ramen fan, would highly recommend! pineapple nigori: pleasantly surprised by this sake, strong pineapple notes spicy corn ribs: skippable, decent app but there are better out there. spicy enoki: also skippable spicy signature toripaitan: creamy and flavorful broth, not really spicy, perfect chewy noodles and pork was right amount of fatty spicy GKO: also a delicious ramen and highly enjoyed!

Nojo Ramen Tavern is a Japanese-style pub food specialist located at 231 Franklin St. It offers an airy atmosphere and serves piping hot bowls of veggie miso or chicken paitan ramen. The restaurant was previously an independent izakaya known for its outstanding chicken ramen before being acquired by a Japanese restaurant corporation.
That bowl of ramen had amazing texture and good taste. I went with their specialty, which was the first time I've had a braised chicken thigh served in ramen. To be honest, the chicken was pretty bland and didn't elevate the dish. The broth was rich and delicious but not too heavy, and the karage was the highlight for me.
Jonathon T — Google review
Best ramen experience I’ve had in SF! The chicken thigh was packed with flavor, even inside the meat (you know when it’s seasoned just right 👌). The broth was so rich and creamy, but perfectly balanced, not too salty and not too plain either. Everything came together so well, from the texture of the noodles to the depth of the broth. I left super satisfied and already craving it again. Definitely a spot I’ll come back to!

Excellent tomato ramen. Rare to see on a menu that isn’t for vegetarians. The beer and gyoza combo for $10 is a fantastic deal! The weizen beer is light and refreshing. Always crowded so space is a bit cramped and meant for a quick meal. Overall a great ramen spot for lunch or a quick dinner.

Oisii Ramen.😋 It was my first visit at Nojo Tavern and I had this Tan Tan Spicy Ramen. It hit the spot. I travel around and have different kinds of Ramen but Nojo’s Tan Tan is a really good one. The broth, thick noodles and Cilantro toppings was the best. It was my first time having ramen without Chasyu-Pork instead they have this Grounded chicken mixed with the broth which is more flavorful and delicious. This Ramen is the recommendation to people who love spicy flavor Ramen noodles. -Gochisousama Deshita🍜🍥

It’s a really nice place with delicious ramen. We had the chicken paitaan ramen and veggie miso ramen. Both were delicious. The paitaan was perfectly seasoned. We also ordered veggie Gyoza which was perfectly crisp and didn’t feel oily. Highly recommend this place for a warm bowl of ramen on a cold SF day.

Nojo Ramen is known for its signature ramen, which includes a whole braised chicken leg. The chicken was flavorful and tender, but the broth itself was a bit too salty. I also ordered the chicken nanban, which was fried chicken intended to be spicy, but it fell short on heat. I would recommend skipping this appetizer, as the house-made sauce wasn't very impressive either.

I came in just about 6 PM, Wednesday. it seemed we were the first customer for their dinner time. the atmosphere is somewhat, up scale restaurant vibe, yes it is A ramen restaurant, I know. (for example, server will come to your table to fill water with sommelier style) you order your food using your phone, scanning QR code for their menu and order on the Web. its pretty standard ordering food at ramen restaurants nowadays. they have some appetizers, edamame, shishito, gyoza etc but mainly ramen, this is a ramen restaurant, godammit. I ordered fried shishito (it's like deepfried red pepper with this say based sauce is delicious!) soy syoyu ramen and this weird sparkling yuzu white peach soda. ramen soup was just did work. nothing special, just fine. kinda of noodle is those curly one, that's pretty it. water taste pretty basic. some people will say this boring but I would say it is basic. I can make exact same ramen at home if I have this funct small ramen bowl. portion is tiny I have to say. I recommend here for lunch time. you will stop by a pizza parlor on the way home if you nojo ramen for dinner. service is they just being ramen bowl to your table but I felt they are polite, soft, friendly. I got gacha on the way home too. this place is for lunch. period

Excellent Raman noodles. Broth was tasty and not too salty. Shio paitan with chicken meatballs had good flavor and not overpowering. Tokyo style ramen was also legit with two slices of cha siu. I really like their appetizers, nanban chickens, fried calamari and gyoza were all delicious and hot when they were served. Went there at 5 pm without no wait, and the line got longer getting close to 6 pm on Thursday. Service was good with staff refilling our glasses with water several times on their own. This is a great quick eat close to concert hall and opera house. I will come back to try their other items on the menu.

Nestled in the heart of the Inner Sunset, Izakaya Sozai is a charming eatery that captures the essence of traditional Japanese dining. This cozy spot has been a beloved local gem for years, offering an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of authentic izakayas found in Japan. While their menu features an array of delightful small plates and creative yakitori, it’s the ramen that truly steals the show.
What a hidden gem! I came here with some family and we ordered several things from across the menu, and at multiple points in the evening. Every single thing was beautifully presented, stunningly delicious, and we stuffed ourselves. They also have an exceptional collection of Japanese beers and sake that are all divine. Be aware this small place fills up every night of the week, so either plan ahead or get there early. I will absolutely be back the next time I’m in town. The agedashi tofu is the best I’ve ever had.

I just wanna say that Izakaya says I might be the most delicious meal I’ve ever had in my entire life from the small bites that represent all delicious cuisines from around the world to special things that you can get only hearing in San Francisco. This is truly some of the best plates in the city you need to come try it, especially The spicy tuna crispy rice stuff, but also ranging to the chicken skin anyway super yummy

Now I have to say, for a small joint like Izakaya Sozai, they can sure serve up mini courses that will absolutely get your eyes wide open. Most of the dishes were very delicious and for a very decent price. Izakaya style, of course. My top favorite dishes were the Tako Wasabi, bacon wrapped enoki mushroom and mochi, and Ankimo pate. If you are a foodie like me and are adventurous, I recommend you come here to try it.

We arrived 20 minute prior to our reservation and the table was set and ready to receive us. We were seated within a few minutes and put in an order for a bottle of Sake. Our 2 other friends arrived in time when the bottle showed up at our table in an ice bin. After a round of Sake to quench our throats, we were ready to place our food orders. We scanned the QR Code on the table. We not only orders foods off the menu but from the Chefs Menu posted on the wall. This is a Tapas concept so hope other customers don't expect portions to be plentiful. It's all about the varieties, great place for groups and a wonderful selection of Sake offered. Our party of 4 sat indoor, next to the entrance. The place was cozy and the staffs were really friendly. I noticed there's a chefs table for 2, at the high counter. A party for 2 would be perfect for that spot. Maybe I'll request for that spot on a future visit.

LOVED IT. For some reason, I’m quite picky about my ramen. We started with wagyu sausage, which was good — although I wished there were more. My partner and I both ordered the tonkotsu ramen, but I added on the spicy miso and garlic chips… chefs kiss. I used about half of the spicy miso to get to desired heat. The host and server were super nice and HUSTLED all over the full restaurant. We’ll definitely be back!

A very homey feeling as you walk in you're greeted right away. I tried some bbq items and their ramen. I gotta say i was extremely impressed with the food! The skewers were very flavorful with a lot of different options. The ramen was flavorful and creamy very rich with flavor. And the service was awesome! I don't think my water cup ever got empty or without someone tending on us.

I used to love coming here a lot, I haven’t been for a bit because of the pandemic. The takoyaki, miso cod and clam chowder croquette are really tasty and cooked perfectly. The ramen however was way too peppery, it is a bit overwhelming! The noodles are decent and the pork was juicy but that pepper flavor is too much

Food was good. I was so impressed with their special for the night-fresh uni with fresh wasabi, fresh seaweed and seaweed paper. Good Beer and sake completed our night. Servers were pleasant and helpful. Will definitely go back.

Iza Ramen is a ramen restaurant located in the Lower Haight and SoMa neighborhoods of San Francisco. The menu features a unique take on tonkotsu broth, and the noodles are perfectly textured. For fun, add takoyaki (fried octopus balls) to your order.
Walked here at 630 on a Saturday and was able to be seated here immediately. It never felt that busy throughout my time there which is odd cause this place is great! Definitely could be a good date spot or just a friendly hangout place too. The dipping ramen broth is very thick and flavorful yet the dry noodles themselves were not boring at all. We got some shishito peppers which were prepared nicely and in large quantity too. Overall this place definitely is solid and I'd recommend it!
Joshua Y — Google review
Reliable and good quality ramen in the Lower Haight area. Their appetizers may be better than the ramen. Don't miss out on the takoyaki! Not the best ramen in SF, but this is one of the few ramen shops that does tsukemen well. I had their vegetarian ramen this time and it was a bit bland for the price tag ($21)...you can get a much more flavorful bowl for the same or a lower price from other ramen shops. The prices have gone up significantly over the past 2 years (as is the case with many other restaurants). An appetizer can hit with you with $18, so be ready!
Magoo R — Google review
Have dual feelings for this place. I was super excited to go there after saving from one of the TOP ramen places list. From good side the interior and atmosphere were great. Dimmed light, stylish furniture, modern minimalism. From other side - just 3 types of ramen which is a bit strange for the place with word “ramen” in name. Second strange thing was waiting time. We ordered just 2 ramens but waited for them longer than two other tables (people who came after us). My husband really liked vegetarian ramen, from my side their house Iza ramen is lacking liquid. The broth is very flavorful but the proportions between it and noodles are not optimal. Noodles were too hard for my taste. So in a nutshell this place is not bad but there are definitely some better ramen places in SF
Аlisa P — Google review
The service was good, and the interior and food presentation were nice, but ultimately the ramen broth was mediocre and lacking in flavor and depth. I agree with the other reviews that there are other better ramen places in SF. I actually thought the takoyaki was good and enjoyed it more than the ramen.
Su C — Google review
we tried the crispy bite trio, the spicy iza ramen, & the spicy iza tsukemen. the crispy bite trio was great - everything was flavorful and the size of the fried chicken pieces were larger than i expected them to be. the iza ramen was okay - there wasn't much broth or spice, and the egg was more solid then runny. the tsukemen ramen was also just okay. the noodles were an excellent texture but the broth was very salty and also not particularly spicy. the best part of the ramen dishes was the side of buttered corn, which was delicately sweet but not overbearing. i would have preferred more corn in each serving, though. as for the service, it was very quick & attentive, which i appreciated!

Food: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Overall: Not a bad neighborhood spot for some ramen. The extended review… Food: Edamame – 3/5 – Standard fare appetizer. Chicken Karaage – 3/5 – Can’t say no to fried chicken. The portion size was a bit small and taste was standard fare. Iza Tsukemen – 3/5 – I got this one because of the thicker noodles which were good. The broth was fairly rich and good as well. Service: 3.5/5 – Friendly and attentive service. Ambiance: 3.5/5 – This place had a little bit of a wait. Very cute interior.
Spencer Q — Google review
Iza Ramen in Lower Haight is a must-visit for ramen lovers. I indulged in their signature dish, the Iza Tsukemen, and tried the delightful Takoyaki Octopus Balls. The Iza Tsukemen features thick ramen noodles served with a concentrated dipping soup, accompanied by ume shiso chicken, slow-cooked BBQ pork, marinated egg, green onion, bean sprout, bamboo shoot, and crispy nori seaweed. The flavors harmonize perfectly, creating a delightful experience. The Takoyaki Octopus Balls, served with bonito flakes, red pickled ginger, and sweet demi sauce, offer a burst of flavor. The service is attentive, and the cozy atmosphere adds to the dining pleasure.

Ramen Yamadaya is a Japanese ramen noodle soup restaurant that specializes in making the popular 20-hour tonkotsu broth. Either the chicken or fish based shoyu broths are delicious and can't be missed.
I come here every year for my birthday from out of town. The Kara-age chicken is fantastic! My family all loved what they got. Staff is fantastic every year. Nice breeze through the windows and a nice view (when there isn’t construction). Over all great place.
Nathaniel — Google review
The restaurant was pretty average. The small plates and dishes they gave us weren’t very clean, which was a bit off-putting. The ramen was decent—not great, but not terrible either. The staff were really friendly and attentive, which was nice. The atmosphere was okay, but I personally didn’t like the lingering old smell. There was no lid for the water they provided. The hygiene could be improved.
KAVINPAK Y — Google review
We were out checking out the Blossom Festival and ended up in line at this spot—mostly because everything else was packed and this seemed like the best of the options. Big mistake. What followed was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. You know that feeling when a good meal brings people joy? Yeah, this place doesn’t deliver that. Every dish we tried was off. The gyoza tasted like it came straight out of a Costco freezer bag—bland, rubbery, and weirdly artificial. Ever had something so oddly “pipe-flavored” that you start questioning not just the plumbing, but your life choices? That was us. I ordered udon and my partner got the spicy ramen. Both were terrible—easily the worst ramen I’ve ever had. And trust me, I’ve had instant ramen that puts this to shame. Honestly, second place in the “worst food” category goes to Dumpling Time in San Jose—just to give you a sense of how low the bar is here. The shishito peppers were a whole other offense. They should be grilled—smoky, blistered, and tender. These? Crunchy like they were trying and failing to be bell peppers. And serving them with a side of mayo? That’s not just wrong—it’s a betrayal of everything good and holy about Japanese small plates. Service? Painfully slow. We waited forever to be helped, and you could just feel the awkward energy around the room—people nodding like they were all in the same boat of disappointment. The water was lukewarm, no ice, and tasted like it had been sitting in jugs all day. Not a great first impression. To top it off, the waiter basically tossed the receipt at us and clearly didn’t know how to handle our complaints. Thankfully, another staff member came by and comped our ramen and noodles, which we appreciated. Moral of the story: if you’re in San Francisco and craving ramen, do your homework . Don’t be fooled by the reviews—this place is not it. I’ve had better ramen at gas stations.
M S — Google review
To be honest, the ramen here is not very special and you can make it at home. Ordered the Yamadaya ramen $18.50 , the noodles are thin, but the texture is not very good, you can even taste the raw noodles. The soup base may have fish flavor, I was thirsty 30 minutes after eating so I think the soup base should mixed from condensed soup base . For topping , here is the pork belly instead Chashu . Service is average , they did their job , that’s all !

Sure! Here’s a 150-word review in English for Yamadaya in San Francisco: I had a great experience. I ordered a bowl of ramen and a kara-age bowl, and both were absolutely delicious. The ramen had a rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles, while the kara-age was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, served over warm rice with great seasoning. The food felt comforting and satisfying without being too heavy. The staff was very attentive and kind, they made sure we had everything we needed and checked in at just the right moments. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, making it a nice spot whether you’re going solo or with friends. It’s clear they care about both their food and the experience of their guests. I would definitely come back to try more from the menu. If you're in the area and craving good Japanese food, Yamadaya is a solid choice.
Pily P — Google review
This is by far the worse ramen I'd ever had. Firstly, the service I received was terrible, server had a massive attitude and was borderline throwing our food at us. But surely it's fine because the food is good right? Wrong. Out of the 4 ramens that we've order, I only would've willing eaten one. They put looks over taste. None of the broths were creamy and was served like it was heated up. On top of all of that the broth is for some reason bitter. I'm sorry but this is just one gigantic tourist spot. If you want some good ramen just go to Marufuku 2 blocks away cheaper and better.
Haolin C — Google review
We had to get ramen while we were in Japantown. The ramen here was delicious. I got the Spicy Ramen with medium on the spice level. I wanted to play it safe since my friends make fun of me that I can only handle “white boy spicy.” The broth was super flavorful and complex. My friend got the Wantan Ramen since he’s a sucker for chicken-dashi broth. He loved it! It wasn’t busy since we were here on a Thursday night. They are centrally located in Japantown and I recommend coming by to satisfy your ramen cravings while you’re here. 🍜
Adam H — Google review
Been visiting this joint for years for good ramen near Japantown. To be fair, I have not tried the other ramen houses within the japantown complex itself but this place compares favorably with similar eateries on the peninsula. On my most recent visit in Dec 2023 the quality of the food seemed to have gone down a little from years before. Nevertheless the ramen broth is flavorful, the chashu and stewed pork are soft and flavorful and the egg well done (firm outside and soft inside). The ramen texture is not great. Appetizers are fine - portions are big but the quality is so-so. We had the fries with cheese, geso karaage and house salad. Extensive menu beyond ramen. Sep 2025 update - not sure what happened but the food quality has plummeted since we ate here a year ago, and definitely nothing compared to what it was years ago. The tonkutsu broth is tasteless, the noodle texture was off and the tsukemen was terrible. Will not be returning.

IPPUDO SAN FRANCISCO is a stylish and popular outpost known for its world-renowned tonkotsu ramen. The restaurant offers three kinds of tonkotsu ramen: the 'Shiromaru classic,' the 'Akamaru modern,' and a spicy version, all made with high-quality ingredients. While the menu is simple, the flavors are rich and satisfying. The restaurant also provides takeout and delivery options to cater to different preferences.
I truly enjoyed this place! It seems small when you enter, but there is a large dining area tucked behind curtains that was super lively and spacious. We were a party of 9 and ordered a variety of vegetarian options that included the eggplant bao buns, ramen, sushi, and fries (for the kids). Everything was very tasty, and the service from all the staff was excellent. We hope to be back again soon!

Lost My Ramen Virginity, and It Was Spicy! I walked into Ippudo San Francisco with the confidence of someone who had no idea what they were getting into. I had never tried ramen before—something about the idea of noodles swimming in soup always confused me. Are they drowning? Are they thriving? Who knows. But being in SF, I assumed vegan options would be as abundant as overpriced oat milk lattes, so I took the plunge. The Food: GOMA Q – It’s cucumber. But fancy. Drenched in sesame oil and sprinkled with chili flakes, it was like the cucumber had been invited to a VIP spa day. Nothing life-changing, but I do love sesame oil, so no complaints. SPICY VEGE MISO – This bowl arrived, and I swear it winked at me. A steaming, spicy, glorious mess of noodles, tofu, and miso magic. The Tokyo-style thick wavy noodles? Absolute perfection. The spiced Niku-miso bolognese on top? A bold move, but my taste buds applauded. I had no idea what I was doing, but I slurped it like a seasoned pro (read: made a mess but had fun). The Experience: • Service was faster than my ability to Google “how to eat ramen without embarrassing yourself.” • Portions were generous—I left full but still contemplating ordering another bowl for the road. • My lips were slightly on fire, but in a way that made me feel alive. Overall, Ippudo made me question why I spent years avoiding ramen. Turns out, noodles in soup are not just surviving—they’re thriving. And now, so am I.

Spicy Tuna Roll…a Dish of Its Own! The Spicy Tuna Roll is the star here, fresh, balanced, and packed with flavor. It’s one of those rare rolls that feels like its own signature dish rather than just another sushi staple. The Brussels Sprouts are delightful, perfectly crisp, lightly charred, and seasoned just right. A simple dish elevated by great technique. And that Akamura Modern Broth? A total blessing in a bowl, rich, comforting, and beautifully layered. It ties the whole meal together like a culinary exclamation point. An easy five stars.

Ippudo [一風堂]in Japan is like our “Denny’s” and isn't exceptionally expensive despite the fact that it has had to raise prices there also due to the increased cost of raw materials and partly attributed to the ongoing inflation. In fact, its prices are comparable to many other popular ramen joints in Japan and are often cheaper than its international prices. However, “Ippudo Yerba Buena” in San Francisco is located in the alley of Yerba Buena Lane next to Four Seasons Hotel and to sum up: ❶ The Dashi quality of its tonkotsu or miso ramen, which requires a lot of time and effort to prepare if they truly do 😔, is unremarkable and too salty to my taste buds.❷ The ramen noodles “Tokyo-style thick wavy noodles” are average and Chasu is also too salty. ❸ Other ingredients such as “fried onion chips, ginger, seasoned bamboo shoots, spinach, corn, diced red onions” are decent and inclusive as advertised. However, $4 for Tamago (“egg”) which is usually included in the price tag of ramen ($23) in any other Japanese Ramen shops in The City is considered an “extra topping” which leaves bad taste in mouth. ❹ Service is a little slow on average and seating is also typical diner style nothing private enough much less romantic. ❺ Three stars is my generous rating considering food quality and service satisfaction; however, the overcharging price will scale it down to 2 1/2. {$70 some for two Ramens including tips arguably are not typical price for average Joe diner.} PS The meanings of Ippudo in Kanji “一風堂” are: One “一I” Wind “風ppu” Hall “堂do.” One “一I” is one stroke simply describing the horizon; Wind “風” describes eight directions of wind in meteorology (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW). Hall “堂”in original Kanji pronounces as Tong, simply means “palace or meeting hall,” which sometimes refers to historical Chinese American benevolent societies or associations that were somehow associated with organized crime in Chinatown such as the infamous “Shrimp Boy” described by the media.
Mason C — Google review
It was too cold, so I went in. I wish the soup was a little hotter to stop the wind from San Fran. I tried a new flavor of ramen. To my taste, the yuju shoyu ramen was a bit salty, but my friend's Karaka spicy ramen was delicious. It seems that the interior was more important than the Palo Alto store, and it is quite cool. It’s worth a visit.

Dropped in last Saturday evening during happy hour (~3–6 pm). We walked in and got a table without much wait, even with a decent crowd. Drinks were excellent: I had two Toru highballs (crisp, not too sweet) and a yuzu-citrus cocktail garnished with a dried mango slice—super refreshing. For bites, the blistered shishito peppers were addictive, and the trio of soft bao buns—chicken, pork, and shrimp—were all flavorful and perfectly balanced. The chicken karaage was the star: ultra-juicy inside with a light, crunchy coating. We stuck with classic Japanese mayo, but their house sauces looked great too. Service was friendly and quick, and the happy-hour pricing felt very fair for SF. Overall, tasty food, great drinks, and easy vibes. I highly recommend stopping by—especially for happy hour!

Great place, Great find on a working trip to San Francisco. The pork buns are phenomenal, so much so, I ordered a second one... The ramen was delicious, very well balanced, and the broth fantastic. The desert was totally unexpected... it is very, very big, enough for 3.

Nestled in the vibrant Mission district of San Francisco, Ramenwell is a culinary gem that has quickly made a name for itself since taking over from the beloved Ken-Ken Ramen. Under the expert guidance of chef and owner Harold Jurado, this neighborhood venue serves up an array of mouthwatering ramen bowls alongside delightful Japanese sides.
Pork ramen is delicious, rich and filling. They give you a ton of meat with it. Asahi beer was also delish and pairs well with it.
Mirinda J — Google review
Tried the pork ramen here and found it to be a mixed experience. The broth has good, rich flavor that shows the kitchen knows what they're doing. My main issue was the abundance of pork scraps throughout the soup, which made it quite thick and heavy - not as smooth as I'd prefer in a ramen broth. Limited menu options, so keep that in mind. The space has a casual, authentic feel with an open kitchen where you can see the chef cooking. Got a friendly smile from the kitchen, which was nice! Service was adequate - nothing exceptional but no issues either. Worth trying if you're nearby, though there might be better ramen options elsewhere in the area.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ I recently visited RamenWell in the Mission, and let me tell you — the food did not disappoint! 🍜✨ ⸻ Neighborhood / First Impressions 🏙️ Walking up, the area looks a little rough around the edges, but trust me — once the food hits your table, you’ll forget about everything outside. ⸻ Appetizers 🥟 • Edamame: Perfect balance of salt and softness. • Bao Bao Fried Chicken: Generous portion, crispy, and paired beautifully with the kimchi. ⸻ Entrée 🍲 I ordered the Gluten-Free Ramen Bowl. At first glance, the noodles didn’t wow me visually — but one bite changed everything. The flavor was incredible, and the slow-cooked meat (20+ hours!) took the dish to a whole new level. Absolutely delicious. 🤤 ⸻ Customer Service 👩‍🍳 This is the one area that could use improvement. • The host/food runner spoke so softly it was difficult to hear. • The waiter wasn’t very attentive, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. Nothing major — but tightening this up would make the experience perfect. ⸻ Atmosphere & Crowd 👥 What I loved was the mix of people: • Friends catching up • Families enjoying dinner • Couples on dates It felt warm, welcoming, and diverse. ⸻ ✅ Final Thoughts If you’re in San Francisco and craving ramen, make sure RamenWell is on your list. You won’t regret it. 🌟

Came here for a friend catchup and we got seated and had a reservation beforehand. Good: - The ramen came out very quickly - I got the classic ramen bowl - The portion size was good - I was very full by the end - A nice place to catch up - it's got japanese izakaya vibes and more dimly lit Bad: - The soup was really salty so it felt like it was unhealthy to drink too much of it Overall this was a solid place to have an extended catch up and the ramen was quick and tasty.

I would give 4.5 overall - but Google doesn’t have halves! Hands down the best pork bellies and the spiciest ramen (choose the Souper one if you dare, and like). Love coming back here every month!

Ramenwell in San Francisco's Mission district offers a convenient option for a ramen fix, but be aware of a few things before you go. First, online reservations come with a $5 charge per person. This charge gets applied to your final bill, so double-check it to avoid paying extra. They also have a strict policy of not seating incomplete parties, so make sure your whole group arrives before you get hangry. The good news is that you can chill at their bar with a drink while you wait (given that they have the bar seating available) The service itself is fast, and our server was friendly and helpful. However, the appetizers were a bit of a letdown. Both the chicken katsu and the takoyaki were lukewarm, which definitely affected the enjoyment factor. The katsu itself was decent, with one good sauce and one overly sour one. The takoyaki, on the other hand, were a bit too doughy for our liking. Their signature pork ramen was a bit on the pricey side, and overall, it was just okay. The noodles were firm and flavorful, but customization seems limited. If you prefer softer noodles, you might be disappointed. The pork slices were thicker than the usual chashu cuts and a bit dry on the edges. The normal spice level was barely there, so spice lovers should definitely go for level 5 or higher. The broth was quite flavorful for what it's worth. The constant flow of customers coming in and out created a busy atmosphere, but it wasn't overly loud or chaotic. Ramenwell offers a decent ramen experience with friendly service and a convenient location. However, the lukewarm appetizers, limited customization options, and slightly higher price point prevent it from being a standout.

Coco's Ramen is a cozy and intimate restaurant located at the edge of the Outer Mission and Bernal Heights. It offers a variety of ramen soups with six different broth options, including pork and chicken stock-based broths, seafood ramen, and a high-quality vegan option. The restaurant also serves rice plates and sushi in two dining rooms with a sushi bar.
Coco Ramen does not disappoint. The chicken broth, pork broth, and seafood broth each have a distinct flavor. They give you the option to add regular or black garlic. Black garlic is best for an umami taste and it's what I ordered with pork miso broth. There are four spice levels and I ordered the "spicy" expecting it to be mild. It was proper spicy without losing flavor. In addition we ordered veggie tempura and a chef's special of avocado/cream cheese wrapped in wonton. Each were perfectly crispy and flavorful. Highly recommended. We plan to return to try the sushi. I have a feeling it will be just as delicious.

It is always a pleasure to come here as I just love the taste of their Ramen. In short, I use them as the benchmark for how I judge others. Yes, there are others better and some worse for sure, but these folks seem to match my palate the best. I don't get to visit this place as often as I'd like, mainly because the neighborhood is congested and parking is hard to find, hardly their fault, but it's just a fact of life. However, whenever I visit this place, it's like coming back to my Ramen home.

Pretty great little local spot! Not too crowded on a weekday (I was early and my date was late and yet the staff didn't get annoyed I was hogging a table since some were still open). Cozy Japanese decor (albeit slightly uncomfortable seating). Friendly but not harassing staff. Decent food and a wider selection of drinks than I'd expect. Amazing presentation of food. Overall a decent spot, and I hope to one day try their ramen since that's their namesake!

We went to Coco's Ramen on a Friday afternoon, and the place was completely empty...not sure if that’s a good sign. The waiter/owner was very nice and polite. We both got the Chashu ramen, but unfortunately, the “meat” was mostly fat with very little actual meat. The ramen itself was mediocre, nothing to rave about, but also nothing really to criticize.

Overall 3/5 - Food 3; Ramen broth, noodles and toppings were good. Except our chasu was so tough I had to send it all back to the kitchen. The egg was old. Karaage was soggy. Rolls were mediocre. I ordered the roll with coconut and mango just to try something different and it was an explosion of interesting flavors in my mouth. Service 4; not outstanding but not bad. Atmosphere 3; were given paper plates to eat off of and the tea came in a paper cup. Seating is very close together. I would come back and only have vegetable ramen.

Nice place in the mission, cozy spot. Your average, if not typical Japanese restaurant. 2 dining rooms with a sushi bar. Clean restrooms. They offer rice plates, ramen and sushi. The ramen is pricey as they do charge for extras. About $20 a bowl. Large filling bowls though. Their noodles are on the thicker, filling side. I prefer the thinner noodles. Broth is rich as expected and preferred. Appetizers are filling and averaging around $10. Their medium is pretty spicy 🌶️ so choose wisely. Their side pork is marinated and good. Kaarage was brought as a healthy serving but not as crispy as expected. Got a bit soggy at the end. Mixed tempura is worth it as they give your generous servings. A lot of crispy flakes but the shrimp is quite thin on the inside. Veggies were in between crispy and soggy like the kaarage. The sauce for karaage was good with a kick. Will try the squid kaarage next time. The parking is metered but only cost us less than $3 using the app. The pork katsu that came with my curry ramen was a bit tough but good. I guess we are used to the chicken katsu which is more tender. The curry flavor was rich but medium spicy kind of drowns out the flavor. Will have to get mild on the next order. I would recommend this place as a first date or if you want something quiet. Not too crowded. The music playing was very nice. Healthy servings enough for dinner and lunch the next day. Oh and after dinner, we grabbed Mitchell’s ice cream down the street! Enjoy my friends!

If I have to tag this place then the only thing that comes to mind is: A sad demonstration of culinary skills and the output doesn't resemble Japanese cuisine... So when I try a Ramen or Yzakaya place then I keep my choices simple but specific. Agedashi tofu, grilled squid and pork katsu don. Simple but ... First out was a salad and miso soup . The salad was delivered straight from the plastic bag it was purchased in. No prep but dry spinach with a squirt of some over sweet industrial dressing. Nasty .. the miso soup was alright but not enough to lift the overall experience. The tofu itself again not bad but served with coarsely chopped green onions on even more coarsely chopped bed of cabbage. Green onion must have been the ingredient of the day as it was served in almost every dish. I suggest trying Katsuobushi to go along with the tofu. The squid was also disaster, it's tentacles were over cooked and not eatable and the body of the squid was under cooked and chewy.. I felt sorry for the squid, a life waste and then ignored in the chefs kitchen. The pork katsu ... Omg even the pork had to suffer. Overfried and dry and the curry didn't do justice to a what a japanese curry is. On the plus side they don't make their own beer, at the least the Asahi lived up to it's reputation.

🍜Sorry to say this is not the ramen you are looking for. Pleasant (but inattentive) Chinese folks run this place. The pork belly and sliced pork were both ‘send it back’ overcooked. 😕 but the noodles were good. Broth options: Tonkatsu: 👎👎 Curry: 👎 Shoyu: 👍👍👍 Meat: Pork belly:👎 Char siu (sliced grilled pork): 👎👎

Kaiju Eats Ramen & Izakaya is a cozy spot serving up a diverse range of Japanese dishes, from classic ramen and sushi to flavorful meat skewers. The menu features an array of ramen options, including traditional choices like spicy miso ramen as well as inventive variations such as kimchi kabocha and coconut shoyu ramen with unique toppings like lotus chips or curry aioli.
An adorably cozy spot with phenomenal ramen. Such a hidden gem. The miso tofu was truly such a delicacy, a really simple yet well done brother and delectable toppings. The soft tofu was mindblowing. Highly recommend and would come again

Really really cute ramen place with SUCH TENDER AND MOIST AND DELICIOUS KARAGE. Truly best karage and so much flavor in the karage and sauce! The only thing I wish was that there would be more veggies in the ramen. The service was great and friendly and fast! Highly recommend!! The price was so reasonable too for such big portions!

I waited 3 year's to try this place and i was not disappointed. I was welcomed and seated right away and taken care of. Very small and peaceful restaurant. The staff was interactive and very informative. Can't wait to come back. Ramen was loaded with so many creative things lamb, curry, deep fried eggs. Appetizers pork belly and dumplings both were delicious. Saki was pretty good not even a Saki person and i was surprised.

One of my best friends gave it a 3.5/5. I loved the spicy miso with pork belly. The edamame was also tasty and well cooked. Easy ordering and service. Small setting with great options.

One of my very favorite Ramen spots. Not only is the Ramen varied and inventive, but they also offer some other side dishes that you don’t see everywhere else. I particularly like the Japanese pumpkin tempura. They also have a variety of fairly priced sake’s.

I love this spot. They have such a creative interpretation of traditional Ramen that truly lends it self to a modern palate. They also completely step out of the box in such amazing ways. They have fun but always delicious options to customize your order with things like- Panko egg! Don’t skip on their appetizers… so good, each and every one. I love their Ramen. Spicy miso is my go to but I’ve had all of them and one can’t go wrong.

Look. It's great ramen. But it's fancy. You want good, classic, tonkatsu ramen? Go somewhere else. This place has unusual, good but spicy flavor combos, and they put fried chicken on top. Most options are spicy, and I (a spice weakling) had a runny nose two bites in. The ramen egg was panko-coated, not marinated (this was indicated on the menu and yet I was still disappointed). Small, clean, unfussy interior. Also serves apps, sake, curry, but you're here for the ramen. Take friends here if you want to seem cool, but this isn't my favorite ramen joint in the city.

i genuinely never leave bad reviews but this was the worst dining experience i’ve ever had. i will say i’ve heard from many friends that they love this place, but i did not have a positive experience :( we got there and had to wait around 30 mins (totally reasonable). the worse part was they we were seated (and had already decided on what to order) but it took the waitress another ~15 mins to take our order and then another ~10 mins to bring water. we then waited another 30 mins for the food to come. every other table was already eating (even multiple that arrived / were seated after us). when i said something to the waitress, she tried to explain it by saying that our slips got lost but never updated us or checked in. the food then came and the skewers on the ramen were cold. they had not reheated them! as many good reviews as this place has, i can never come back and cannot recommend it at all. i totally understand the waitress was slammed with a full restaurant and lots of doordash, but the service was pretty unacceptable

Taishoken San Francisco is a newer spot that specializes in tsukemen, offering impressive housemade noodles with a chewy and flawless texture. After finishing the noodles and chashu, staff will pour dashi into any leftover broth for you to drink. In addition to their famous tsukemen, they also offer five other types of ramen, including a spicy paitan version with thin noodles and pork.
The tsukemen was delicious, the broth is a little runnier than I’m used to, but it has plenty of flavor and still sticks well to the noodles. The roasted chashu was a little too fatty for my liking, but I really liked the sous vide chashu.
David Y — Google review
Very filling meal on a busy night. Do save yourself the trouble of waiting for a seat and make a reservation ahead of time. We were a party of two and split the calamari, chashu bowl, and the tsukemen. It was definitely more than enough food. I love seeing tsukemen on the menu since it is not that common in the states. The panko was a nice touch on the calamari. I think a squeeze of lemon would have made it better though to cut some of the grease. Tsukemen noodles were thick and chewy. They make them in house and it definitely shows in the quality. Service was alright, it's pretty busy so interactions were minimal. Additional pros: huge fan of the yuzu beer, paired so nice with our meal!! Happy hour deals look worth it. Eggs in both tsukemen and the chashu bowl were perfect. A solid meal, would return.

This is an excellent ramen restaurant. We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth was flavorful, but not too salty, the thin noodles had a nice spring, and the pork melted in our mouths. We also ordered the Sand Storm Calamari, which was tender (maybe made from fresh rather than frozen calamari), fried to perfection, and served with a tasty ranch-style sauce. The service was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was fine. We will be back.

Jijime is a Korean fusion and Asian eatery located in a rustic-cool setting, offering lunch and dinner. While it's known for its Korean tapas and entrees like beef short ribs and spicy pork, it also serves impressive ramen that often goes unnoticed. The gyoza ramen, featuring generous portions of noodles and bite-size gyozas, is particularly popular.
My family and I went to this place and we were all blown away by the food and the service. Everything was delicious and we were attended to pretty fast. I got the pork belly buns and the pork belly platter. It came sizzling 🤤 My mom got a tea and the packaging was so cute! Bibimbap flavor was good, though spicy pork was not very spicy. Also, it could have been more food for the price. No free small plates like in other Korean restaurants, so an order of kimchi was extra. However, that maybe just for barbeque places which they don't have.

What a delight! All the dishes were amazing, the staff were super friendly, and the atmosphere was so pleasant. Highly recommend the soy garlic chicken.

It was just... fine — the service was nice, but nothing we ate wowed us. Don't get the Bimbibab; for $22, it's a shallow bowl of piddling rice and meat. Chicken jjim is better, but $3 for extra thin layer cheese feels dramatic.

We stopped in just by chance for dinner. Were thinking of getting burgers next door, but we couldn't pass on a chance for ramen! So glad we went in. The hostess was the sweetest (especially to our 2 year old). My partner and the little one shared the beef ramen. Baby LOVED the noodles, and waste them by the fistfull! Beef broth was clean and seasoned/salted nicely. I had the Tokyo TanTan Style Ramen - never had those 2 things combined! Love them both separately, and it was genius together. Nice spiciness, soft salty pork belly and great peanut-y broth. Very creamy and filling. Oh and the Combo Tempura was great too! Absolute gem of a place. Not crowded on Tuesday evening. So happy we found it!
Manu G — Google review
I did not have high expectations since I just wanted a quick bite, but this place is such a steal, especially for their black garlic lobster ramen with pork that I got! I have never gotten so much meat in ramen, the noodle were perfect, and the flavors were amazing. The tempura was very fresh and delish too. I went on a weekday night, so only 1 other table was there, so the food came out very quickly. The restaurant itself looks like its a bit older, but it doesn't matter since the food is so good. I will definitely be coming back the next time I crave ramen since this is my favorite ramen in the city so far.

Updated review 3/11/2022: 21 Taste House is still my favorite ramen restaurant in this part of the city. Their broth is cooked for 10+ hours and I can taste it. The things I love about 21 Taste House are: no 30 minute + wait times, food is always awesome and a fast kitchen. Tonight I had the original pork flavor tonkotsu ramen $13 and chicken karaage $6. The pork pieces were tender and very good. Egg was jelly. I did enjoy the chicken karaage. Great job everyone at 21 Taste House. Original review: Chinese owned Japanese ramen restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. The chef spent a lot of time on the broth and it shows. The flavor reminds me of the good ramen joints in Hong Kong. Well, if I compared this restaurant to the ones in Japan, it is a couple of notches below those, but this place is better than some places in San Mateo and SF Japantown. I had their lobster pork flavor tonkontsu ramen $12.50. It had three generous pieces of roasted pork, ground pork, pork shoulder. It was perfectly cooked and very soft. The black fungus was mixed with cabbage and lettuce. It is not typical to have cabbage and lettuce in ramen and it doesn't mix well with the broth. The 1/2 marinated egg was delicious. Minor tip: skip the shrimp temura $6. The batter is not light enough. It is too bad no one else was dining tonight indoors. The ramen was spot on. I will be back.

We were walking by having dropped our cat off at the ocean Avenue veterinarian and saw this little casual non-descript restaurant serving ramen. We were hungry so after looking at their posted menu decided to give it a try. We were very happy that we did. We had the tan tan ramen combo with pork belly (b11) and the lobster pork tonkatsu ramen (b5). We were stunned at the quality and quantity of the ingredients. Both bowls came with a large block of roasted pork with carmelized edges showing their roasting marks. It was so large it was hard to eat but the flavor were a salty smoky taste that was delicious. The large thinly sliced pork melted in your mouth and was the size of a pancake!! Both dishes were great but the lobster tonkatsu soup had an edge over the other bowl. Medium spicy was perfect but probably leans towards mild. Service was good and the decor is not much to look at but given the price, quality and portions, this is an exceptional place!

Restaurant
Ushi Taro Ramen SOMA is a new addition to San Francisco's culinary scene, offering an authentic Japanese dining experience. The restaurant focuses on perfecting its specialties, such as crispy mushrooms and beef nuggets. It stands out for using beef bone broth as the base for its ramen, unlike the traditional pork bone broth commonly used. Customers praise the delightful umami flavors in dishes like agedashi tofu and mushroom tempura.
Beautiful cosy restaurant with top class food and service. We are visiting from the UK and we were looking for a ramen restaurant near our hotel on Mission. This restaurant didn't disappoint. We had the Gyoza + Traditional & Shoyu Ramen. All dishes were served with care and full of flavour. Highly recommended! Thanks for looking after us.

The food was very delicious, though a bit salty for my taste. It went really well with beer. The portion size was just right. The tables were a bit close together, which was slightly uncomfortable, but understandable since it’s a small place. I liked that you can add sides to every menu item.

I just moved back to the city not too long ago and the vivid memory of having bone marrow ramen popped up in my head. Before I went to the location over in the Sunset district. When I went to Google the spot, found out there was on SOMA. Went over there on my lunch break and it was just as amazing as before. I didn't grab the bone marrow add-on this time. Huge regret. However, still delicious. This is one of the ramen spots I'd recommend to friends to go to. Now that I know the SOMA location is a choice, I will stop by every so often to get my fix.

My husband found this place because we were nearby. He read good reviews so we decided to try eating there. The place was full of visitors, so we needed to wait a bit. The waitress was serious, but maybe because she was busy. Anyway, we appreciate when people smile, that gives us a feeling of welcoming. She was attentive, don’t get me wrong, but just serious. The food we ordered was great, I really liked their gyoza with salty soy sauce. Ramens were delicious, and keep it in mind that Traditional and spicy one gave the same broth, just spicy has spice. And yea, the bone barrow was salty and tasty too. The portions were huge. I think it’s possible to share between 2 people, especially if you don’t eat much. But if you are a big eater you will love this portion. The atmosphere was friendly, young people, couples, friends, and us as a family. The music wasn’t so loud, thank God. I don’t like places with loud music that you can’t even hear each other. So that was a big + for me. It was warm inside, and cosy. So I would defiantly recommend visiting this place and have your own experience in there! Thank you 🌸

Likely one of the best bowls of Ramen that I've had stateside. This was one of the first restaurants that I saw near my new spot in SOMA and I had to try it as a destination on my journey to find a great bowl of ramen in SF. Beef ramen is something that I was not very familiar with, but seeing the photos of the ramen with the big bone marrow in it piqued my interest immediately. When you walk in, it's a very small restaurant, the capacity is maybe 30 people with the 10 bar seats, and 4 tables. It's intimate, but not claustrophobic. The decorations are fantastic and gives a bit of that Japanese small ramen shop feel. One or two chefs, and a very friendly waiter. We started with the Crispy Mushroom and Beef Karage for the appetizer. The Crispy Mushroom is amazing, light and crispy slightly salty batter around a tender and moist shimeji mushrooms; this might be one of the best appetizers I've had anywhere. The Beef Karage was also delicious, but I felt myself craving more of the mushroom, which I have gotten every time I've returned here to eat and will continue doing so. For my ramen, I ordered the Traditional Paitan Ramen with black garlic oil on top per the waiter's recommendation. The bowl came quickly in under 10 minutes and was immediately appetizing. The bowl was elegantly stacked with ingredients and the broth looked rich and appetizing. Upon first taste, I knew it was a quality and perfectly balanced broth. Rich but not too heavy as some bowls I've had in the past from other ramen spots. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the other toppings were simply excellent and paired well. I happily slurped up the noodles and drank every last drop of the soup and left completely satisfied and excited to return. This place is a true gem!

Ushi Taro is a top contender for world’s best ramen. Yes, you read that correctly. We came here 3 weeks after they opened and explored almost the entire menu. Every dish was a blend of simplicity and magic. But let’s talk about the ramen… What makes Ushi Taro unique is that they use beef bone broth as their base, not the usual pork bone broth (tonkatsu) that you often find. That and slices of beef for their protein rather than the usual slices of pork (chashu). As simple a change as all that may sound, it’s very uncommon, even in Japan. Well, these folks have cracked the code. This ramen is decadent, while at the same time simple. Minimal, carefully selected ingredients, all cooked to perfection, and served in humble yet homey and upbeat digs. The “icing on top” is the bone marrow addition, served with the actual bone to be spooned into the bowl, contributing style and engagement to the overall experience. Fun and unique. Order anything on the menu. You literally cannot go wrong. I don’t live in SF, but I can’t not come back here next time I visit and every time after. Already looking forward to it.

Umai Ramen House, located in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood, offers a unique twist on traditional ramen. The menu features a variety of seasonally focused ramen options, including miso and classic shoyu, as well as ramen kits for at-home preparation. The homemade broths simmer for over 20 hours, resulting in rich and flavorful umami profiles that complement the diverse range of ingredients available.
Great ramen place inside the SF Japantown mall! I'm excited to come back soon and try their curry but on my recent visit I got their house special ramen as my main meal—soooo good, and their takoyaki and karaage chicken for appetizers. The takoyaki melts in your mouth and the karaage chicken is just right, crispy and tender and super tasty. The staff is very nice and helped recommend a sake that my friend and I would enjoy with our meal, which we did :) the ramen broth had depth and lots of flavor and the mix of pork (also melt in your mouth) and vegetables (fresh and add just the right textures to the dish) made a very filling and delicious ramen. Definitely worth stopping by here for a nice meal if you're in Japantown!

Had a early family lunch here after looking at other options on the 2nd floor of Japantown. Place filled up fairly quickly after we arrived and ordered. The menu is fairly extensive despite it being a ‘ramen house’. We had a combination of rice, ramen and appetizers - the food is uniformly good but not outstanding. The ramen broth is a little thin but the noodle texture is good. The croquette is actually pretty good. Service is pleasant and efficient. Good option when look for traditional Japanese fare in the crowded complex.

If Umai Ramen house was in another place or city I imagine it would be a 5 star no problem. It’s just that it’s competing with some other truly amazing ramen in Japantown. However, it’s often impossible to get into my top ramen spots there at peak times and Umai rarely has a wait. The ramen is solid but not extraordinary and the side fried rice is the best deal around and very tasty.

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews of this place. They have a combination ramen that is fire🔥 I have honestly never seen a combination ramen that had so many different meats in it🤤 I always have a hard time choosing which ramen to get but this had the perfect amount of variety for a good price too. The meat was tender and the broth was super flavorful, too! (I got medium spice level and it was bit spicy for my bf when he tried it but perfect for me) Also, everyone who worked there was super nice and attentive🥰 P.S. I almost never leave reviews...

Best ramen place in japantown hands down, I should know I've been to all of them. The miso chasu ramen was hearty and delicious, and there's an option to get a heaping bowl of pork belly fried rice for only 3$ extra, which is definitely a steal. The gyoza were also delicious and piping hot in the inside. My only regret was asking for mild spicy level as it wasn't spicy enough, but thankfully they have togarashi (japanese chili powder) on the table to season your food. Also kudos to the friendly staff and waitress, keep it up 😊

This is one of the less commercial ramen place we went and it was run by a chef and a waitress. We ordered the pork rib ramen and a charsiu rice add-on for an extra $4. The pork rib ramen came with 2 huge ribs, generous portion of bamboo shoots and corns. The broth is somewhat the lighter (and probably healthier) version of what you get in Japan or in Singapore. Less salty and oily and thus less flavourful. And this is fine by me as I will usually order the lighter version broth in places that offer both options. The noodles were cooked on point and still springy even when I am down to the end of my bowl. The service was what wrapped up the wholesome experience. She was extremely nice and even offered recommendation when we were worried if ordering 2 ramens were too much for us small eater. Hence, we went with her recommendation and went with a ramen and an add-on rice. Come to this place if u want a dining experience that resonates with dining in small eateries in suburbs Japan. Come to this place if your preference for ramen is the less savory and oily version. If you prefer your ramen to be more savory, I'm sure the chef can make it on your request.

This used to be a five star but after the strange service I received when I went back. I left it at four star since the food was decent and good.

Very pleasant restaurant with friendly staff. The ramen was very flavorful and the pork in the tonkutsu ramen was perfect. The restaurant is tucked away in the East wing of the mall but that makes for a cozy meal.

Kirimachi Ramen is a modern noodle shop located in the Embarcadero Center of San Francisco. The restaurant offers a variety of ramen options including shoyu, tonkotsu, miso, and vegetarian miso. One of their house specialties is the Tsukemen, which comes highly recommended. The spacious restaurant features a mural and provides both lunch and dinner options.
The food is always amazing. Some of best ramen I’ve ever had. Big fan of the Shoyu and the Tori Paitan ramens. Owner/server is super sweet!

Kirimachi Ramen is a quick and affordable option for eating in San Francisco. The place is small and has a fast food style. The service is friendly, and the food is acceptable, but it could be better. I'm not sure if I would return, as there are many better options in the city.
Hecvi V — Google review
The waitress was friendly but the chicken ramen I got was on the lower end. It had a fishy taste and I had to use a lot of table seasoning to give it flavor. It also made my lips sticky. Wish it was better quality like I have had at other places.
Joan F — Google review
Of course! Here is a 4-star review in English that reflects your experience: 4/5 — Good, but we expected more We visited Kirimachi Ramen with my wife based on some good recommendations. The place left us with mixed feelings. The service was indeed good: polite staff, our order was taken and delivered quickly. The prices are reasonable for this area. However, the main disappointment was the taste of the ramen. The broth seemed a bit flat and bland to us, and the noodles were just okay. We've tried different types of ramen in Japan and at other local spots, and here it didn't quite live up to the expected standard. It lacked depth and richness. The atmosphere inside also wasn't great: the space feels a bit sterile and lacks the coziness and authentic vibe you usually look for in a ramen-ya. Verdict: It might be worth stopping by if you're nearby and need a quick bite, but it's not the best choice for a special night out or a memorable ramen experience.
DESMONT — Google review
A good little Ramen restaurant in Embarcadero. The Ramen had great taste and texture, the broth was good, and the side dishes we had (seaweed salad in particular) were tasty. The server was also very friendly. A bit on the pricier side (though I suppose standard for SF), but worth a try if you want a good and relatively quick meal.

I always make time to visit Kirimachi whenever I go to SF. Love everything in the menu, and the chef always comes up with creative special items. They make their own noodle, fresh. The interior is really cute. Love the custom mural on the wall!! Service is always excellent too. They’re attentive and fast. Location is right across from the Ferry Building.

Fire food and great service. The lady running the place was super sweet and attentive. Got the vegan ramen with a miso soup base and some tofu. It was super good! Def recommend

I found their ramen to be very flavorless - lacking in salt, even. The restaurant itself doesn’t feel very clean or like I’m in the financial district, it feels like I’m in some neighborhood in Oakland. Not sure, I just wasn’t a fan of this place.

Rural Ramen Bar is a cozy spot that offers a variety of Thai curries, noodles, and soups in a simple storefront setting. The Niwa Ramen is particularly popular among vegetarians and vegans for its consistent delivery of delicious flavors. While the portion size justifies the price, it's noted to be more affordable compared to other ramen places in the city. Customers recommend trying the Homemade Spicy Sauce to enhance the broth's flavor.
The BEST ramen we’ve had!! Broth was perfectly seasoned and all Ingredients tasted fresh. Salad and appetizers were also very delicious. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Lunch special was a great deal.

Was looking up ramen and we decided on this place. The noodles are my favorite part of this deliciousness soup! The coconut was perfect too. Will have to come back and try different ones. My friend who is vegan liked it too. Fast and friendly service too.

Great ramen, quick service and chill jazz music. I’ve been on a mission to hit all of SFs ramen places and this one is very good. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and it was creamy, rich, and it had a huge portion of meat (more than any other ramen place I’ve been to) the slices were thick and tender. The noodles are flavorful and had the perfect texture. I also ordered the geso karage, which was pretty decent but I think a bit overcooked (more chewiness than I’d like). Would definitely come again.

This was a great place to get some ramen. The mood inside is really sweet. They have a soft purple lights on that really help set a mood. The green tea was very good. My sister and I both loved it. The ramen was hot, filling, and very tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed the notes of ginger in my Tonkotsu ramen. The pork belly tasted like it was seasoned and seared on a grill and only added more flavor to the ramen. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Totally empty on a Tuesday afternoon at lunch time, but that is not a bad thing. The food is pretty average fare, again not a bad thing. The curry with chicken and rice is pretty good. If you stop by, be sure to also stop on at the cable car museum a block over.

Ramen Underground is a beloved local restaurant located downtown, offering a customizable menu with options to add extra toppings for an additional charge. The restaurant is known for its signature broth and basic toppings, with the option to customize your bowl by adding ingredients like habanero or kimchi. The noodles are praised for being thicker, chewier, and fresher than those found at other ramen spots in the city. In addition to its food offerings, Ramen Underground also serves Sapporo and sake.
It was positively delicious. I just discovered ramen right before this trip (yeah I live in under a rock) so while I only have one other place to compare to, it was really tasty! The dinner was reasonably priced but I was a little shocked by the $32 pitcher of beer. It was a great experience though. Staff was friendly and the quality and freshness of the food was high

First, please try this restaurant for yourself since this review will be short, but no uplifting. I think it's overrated. The food isn't bad, but I don't agree with the hyped up review and it's possible that it's past its heyday. Having said that, the staff is super friendly and attentive. I'm only reviewing the quality of the food, which was primarily based on two bowls of noodles, so take my review with a grain of salt. It's an okay bowl of Ramen.
A L — Google review
Ordered the Pork based Ramen. It was absolutely amazing and everything I could ever imagine a quality bowl of Ramen tasting like. Definitely recommend this place for travelers wanting to try some Ramen in SF area.
Diego G — Google review
This is your go to consistent basic ramen shop. The bowls are decently put together and the ingredients harmonize to creat balanced flavor throughout. I've had the tan tan (sesame seed broth) the Miso Shoyu and the Tonkatsu here and all were good not great but would eat here again and again and be satisfied with it. The noodles are cooked medium firm they last through the soup with no mushy. It's priced a little high but in it's location that is to be expected. Service is great and makes everything easy. Tonkatsu broth does have the porky mouth feel but is light what is odd is the chashu that comes with the bowl is not as good as the kakuni style you can add on. I recommend getting the kakuni addition as it really brings the bowls together. Tan Tan ramen was as you would expect creamy nutty and overall decent. This Tan Tan is all chicken however no ground pork which I was told was because of customer feedback I guess that's reasonable. All in all ramen underground delivers on a good bowl of ramen with good broth and we'll cooked pork, if you like this spot the owner, Yoshuke Takahashi has a Japanese curry spot open in the Richmond.

This is my absolute favorite ramen restaurant in the city. This place has a lot of charm, and amazing food. The noodles are thicker, chewier, and fresher than almost every place I’ve been to, and the broth and toppings are excellent. If you are a fan of spicy food (which I am), make sure to order the habanero ramen because that’s the best thing on the menu. This place also serves Sapporo and sake. This place is small, so it might not be ideal for groups bigger than 4. There are seats at both the bar and there are some tables.
Shivam T — Google review
I had the tonkotsu ramen, paid extra $1.5 for the egg. The egg is half boiled, I can taste the mirin but overall the egg is salty. Noodles is too soft - guess it is over cooked, soup doesn’t have enough meaty favor. Ramen comes w one piece of pork (cha siu) and pork belly each. Cha siu is small (5cm diameter), taste ok, pork belly is tough to chew. Food is so-so, great customer service: waiters are pretty attentive even though it’s rush hour. Don’t think I will come back anymore. Note they charge extra $.35 for each credit card payment.
Fifiyan — Google review
Service was very friendly. The food was very average. The spicy miso udon wasn’t very spicy, but it was pretty tasty. The vegetable udon was a little bland. The takoyaki can definitely use more toppings. It’s not a bad eatery, it’s just a little expensive for average food in a place with many other options nearby. Marinated egg is $1.50 extra
Allie G — Google review
Ramen Underground is always crowded with people during lunch and dinner especially during fall and winter time. The one distinction is that it uses chicken broth instead of pork broth. The restaurant is small so you do expect a bit of wait unless you come at odd hours or order takeout. I actually really enjoy their spicy miso ramen. They give you plenty of pork or chicken as you choose, a half-boilded egg and bamboo shoots as well as corn. One bowl will for sure fill you up without needing to order an appetizer. Their spice sauce is also quite flavorful and has some serious kick. I am glad it is nearby my work so I can always go there for a quick bite in the cold!

Saiwaii Ramen is a cozy spot in San Francisco that offers a variety of traditional Japanese dishes, including ramen, rice bowls, and sushi. The restaurant is known for its no-nonsense approach to serving up delicious food with attentive service. Customers rave about the Tonkotsu Ramen and Miso Ramen, which can be ordered with spicy garlic for an extra kick.
Very good ramen lunch. For $15, you get a tonkatsu ramen and a choice of sides. We picked gyoza and chicken karaage. The ramen was very good and the noodles were excellent but the broth was a bit salty. The gyoza (3) was good and crunchy but the chicken karasge was boneless and had a perfect crunch! That’s a winner! The service was outstanding as we had our high end bikes and said we would eat at one of the two outside tables but the staff told us to bring our bikes inside the restaurant and that it was not a problem!! Since it was very cold and windy, we were very very pleased at their hospitality!!

Their ramen is great! I tried the Spicy Garlic Tonkotsu and I loved it! I had medium spicy and it was good. The spice level was pretty spicy but not too much that it wasn’t enjoyable to eat anymore. The broth was also slightly think which paired well with the semi firm noodles. It was chock full of toppings too which made the texture experience of the ramen very enjoyable. This is the sort of ramen that i would love to eat on an especially cold day or a rainy day. Very comforting. The price wasn’t too bad either. I feel it’s value for money. I also tried the Gyoza. It was ok. The sauce was good and the cook of the gyoza skin made it crispy. I have to say, I’m not the biggest fan of the filling though. A bit mushy for my taste. All in all, this place was pretty good! I’d recommend them for great tasting ramen 😌

Incredible ramen with lots of flavor and broth options, and the cuts of Chashu pork are thick and tender. Staff is incredibly friendly and can serve you as quick as you like. It has a medium-sized, simple dining area - nothing fancy - but certainly comfortable. Lunch specials are a great deal. We had the spicy tonkatsu ramen and mala ramen and loved them both. Ushi Taro Ramen is a popular Japanese restaurant in San Francisco known for its unique take on ramen. Unlike traditional tonkotsu ramen, Ushi Taro specializes in using beef bone to create a rich and flavorful broth, often serving the ramen with an actual half bone for added marrow. The menu features various options including Spicy Ramen, Original Shio Ramen, Traditional Paitan Ramen, and Vegan Ramen.
We visited a week and a half ago for lunch. Parking was somewhat difficult but totally worth it for the amazing ramen! My boyfriend ordered bone marrow on the side, and our server so kindly served him not just one, but two!! She said she noticed the marrow was a but small and wanted to ensure we had enough. We were very touched by her kindness. The serving size was very generous and neither of us could finish. Very tasty and flavorful soup, with fresh noodles. We’re dying to go back soon! Highly recommend.

Uncomfortable counter seating. There was no way of enjoying any meal. The traditional paitain broth was very oily and had no depth of flavor. This flavor was overpowering. The ramen had no resistance and was the most disappointing. The bone marrow is a unique addition but honestly disappointing. The egg half was nicely done, both runny and creamy. I recommend cutting the bone marrow in half and serve in a smaller portion, cutting the oil, and definitely switching to a different noodle.

Oh My. This is some great ramen! I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've had beef Ramen with Bone Marrow but it will not be my last. Started our meal with some flavorlicious beef goyoza with a really nice vinegar dipping sauce. Then the main course. Got the Spicy Ramen with the Fred Flintstone Bone Marrow and black garlic addition. My god. Welcome to Flavorville! So rich and decadent. It brought me so much joy. The spice level is nice. Hot, yet still flavorful. I very much recommend. I am already dreaming of going back.
Mr. F — Google review
Excellent place to get beef ramen. We ordered the traditional paitan ramen and tomato ox tail ramen. Both were very flavorful and satisfying. The paitan had a soup that was not overly salty, but had a very pleasant aroma that paired perfectly with the truffle topping. The truffle came in just the right amount: not so much as to overpower the soup. It complemented the creamy and peppery flavors of the broth, as well as the roasted beef slices, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tomato ox tail ramen had a saltier broth reminiscent of tomato soup. The ox tail was incredibly tender and packed with tomato flavor, and the soup paired very well with the noodles. This dish reminded more of Taiwanese style beef noodle soups than ramen, but still very tasty. In both dishes, the noodles where cooked very well, achieving a satisfying degree of chewiness that I expect in high quality ramen. The eggs were appropriately soft boiled as well, checking all the boxes for a very nice bowl of ramen.
Calvin H — Google review
Underwhelming dinner experience. Visited as a party of two and was sat by the wall on the high tables. It’s a small space so they try to make the most of it. Service was quick, and we were in and out. I should have checked the menu before but basically everything is beef bone broth based or includes beef in the dish. Currently I cannot have beef so this was limiting, and there was only the vegan ramen that worked with my diet. Kinda wild there are no chicken or pork alternatives. My boyfriend got the traditional and felt that it was too oily and just okay. Similarly, I thought my veggie ramen was okay. I subbed the spinach noodles for regular egg noodles as I am not vegan and added an egg as well. We weren’t wowed by broth, noodle texture, nor the dining experience.

Cozy, welcoming spot within walking distance of Golden Gate Park. It was a cool and foggy evening, perfect for ramen. We were going to go with their traditional ramen, but then saw the specials! So we got the Spicy Miso Kimchi and the Spicy Combo Ramen (their classic Spicy Ramen with added Tan Tan style ground meat). Great flavors, nicely done noodles, fresh mushrooms, and creamy eggs. At first I thought it wouldn't be enough food (I have a huge appetite typically), but we left totally satisfied! Really a great neighborhood spot.

Taniku Izakaya is a small Japanese restaurant that offers a variety of delicious small plates perfect for sharing with friends. Located near Courtyard Marriott, this gem is known for its traditional Japanese cuisine infused with fresh California ingredients. While there are no reservations and often a wait, the house special Ramen and crab Ramen are highly recommended, along with the black cod and tako yaki. The skewers are also praised as some of the best in the city.
I don’t often write reviews while in the restaurant but I couldn’t wait because this is simply one of THE BEST Izakaya restaurants I’ve ever visited. You can feel how much effort the owner has put in FOOD - I strongly recommend their Yakitori. All of them are good. They were grilled perfectly and marinated just good so that you can still taste the freshness of the material. We also had Takoyaki, it’s also very tasty, you can tell that they were made fresh! I also recommend their Katsu curry rice, they are not the usual ones you’ll get, it’s very authentic, feels like the one in Japan. Lastly, try their Yuzu beer, it’s very refreshing! SERVICE and ENVIRONMENT are all 100/100. The manager respect you and always ensure you get the thing you want. The environment is also very cute, decorated with many Japanese style decorations. From the Sonos speaker you can see how much efforts they put on these little details. If you have a chance, come and taste it. It’s THE BEST!!!

It’s a small and cozy izakaya, perfect for dining alone or with a small group of 3–4 people. I ordered appetizers from the special menu. First up: Mentaiko Zucchini (so delicious! The very first bite was refreshing, followed by the rich umami saltiness of the mentaiko. A little dip in Karashi mustard made it even better—definitely a must-try! Highly recommended). Next was Kuramaebi, tiger prawns deep-fried tempura style and topped with tartar sauce. After that, I ordered Ba-ra Kushiyaki and Kobe Kushiyaki (served 2 skewers each). I especially enjoyed the Kobe—it was grilled perfectly and went really well with Shichimi Togarashi. If it had the same green onion topping as the Ba-ra, I think it would have been absolutely perfect.😋

We had a great dinner at Taniku Izakaya! The food was absolutely fantastic — fresh ingredients, great flavors, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was delicious, especially the ramen and the hand rolls. The staff was friendly and attentive. If I had to mention one small thing, the background music didn’t quite match the cozy and authentic vibe of the place — but honestly, the amazing food more than made up for it. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in San Francisco!

Amazing food and atmosphere, large selection of Japanese Sake for very reasonable prices. By far the best quality to value for Japanese food in SF. The restaurant itself doesn't have a ton of seating especially for large parties so get there early and expect a wait if you have a large party. That said they are very accommodating and willing to combine tables for larger groups. All of the food I had was amazing and the staff were wonderful. Will definitely be going back!

Solid meal here. We got a bit lucky with the timing, and only had to wait ~15 minutes or so. But the line behind us was very long, and it looks like they ended up waiting quite a bit longer than us. The food itself was quite decent. The pork belly skewers were lovely, and the Japanese curry was delicious as well. The fish-based Ramen didn't quite do it for me, but other than that the meal was good!
Jake B — Google review
Had dinner here with a couple of friends and really enjoyed it. Taniku Izakaya is a small spot (maybe 20 seats total), walk-in only, but we didn’t wait long to get in. The menu isn’t the typical izakaya heavy on skewers, but the ones they do offer were excellent — we tried the Kobe beef, pork belly, and chicken with yuzu, all flavorful and cooked perfectly. We also ordered takoyaki along with a few handrolls (amaebi shrimp, unagi, and hamachi), which were fresh and delicious. I finished with the Akamaru ramen with pork chashu. It’s on the spicier side, but they adjusted it down for me and it still had great flavor. Overall, this place is a great find. Cozy atmosphere, quality food, and a menu that feels a little different than most izakayas I’ve been to. Definitely worth checking out, and I’ll be back.

We enjoyed our dinner at this cozy, small, and beautifully decorated restaurant. The service was friendly, and the menu is reasonably priced. The chicken karaage was a standout—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. The garlic pork ramen came with two thick slices of tender chashu pork and delicious crispy garlic bits; the broth was rich and flavorful. The tofu was incredibly soft and tasty—definitely a must-try. The only downside was the beef ramen, which I found too sweet for my taste due to the generous amount of caramelized onions. It just wasn’t for me. The yuzu lemonade was light, citrusy, and very refreshing. Overall, I highly recommend trying the tofu, chicken karaage, and yuzu lemonade!

Genki Ramen is a cozy spot with moody lighting and a welcoming atmosphere. The menu features Chicken Karaage Ramen in a salty miso base, served with juicy fried chicken nuggets in tonkotsu broth, fresh corn, green onions, and wakame. Pair it with gyoza fried rice for an explosion of flavors. The Chashu Braised Pork Belly is another popular choice.

A hole-in-the-wall with ambience and moody lighting, serving tasty food behind a medieval-looking door. This restaurant always looked closed, but I finally decided to open the door today to order the Chashu Braised Pork Belly, the first item on the menu posted on the window, to go. Inside were beautiful hanging lights and an assortment of plants that gave the place a cozy atmosphere. There was only one other customer who was about to leave at the time I entered. After ordering and paying over $8 ($7 +taxes), I asked the cashier if it was always that empty and she said no. Apparently, there used to be lots of customers before the pandemic, but since it was a barbeque place, they needed special tables. It's a small restaurant with a small storefront, and next to a parking lot, so there isn't really room to build a parklet or put tables outside. I got my food about nine minutes after ordering, in a medium-sized paper bag, which felt a little light. When I got home, I excitedly opened the bag to see what was inside. It was three pieces of pork belly (which, by the way, is one of the cheaper cuts of pork) inside a tiny aluminum container, with a piece of arugula on top. I was a bit underwhelmed. Each piece was about the size of two Chapstick containers side-by-side. The pork belly was very tender and basically melted in my mouth. It was some great pork belly, and because it was protein and fat, it was filling. Still, I expected more. This is a nice hole-in-the-wall that most people walk past without thinking. The service was excellent and the food was delicious, but I expected more than three pieces of pork for the price. However, based on other reviews, the ramen is probably fantastic. I really want to give five stars, but my experience was worth four stars.

It did not meet my expectation. I ordered ramen chasui and it is nothing special. Green tea is from can. Unbelievable. My daughter ordered Yakisoba beef pepper. It tastes nothing but pepper all the way. The room smell bad. I would not recommend it to others.

This place is killer and has some of the best ramen in the city. It's always pretty busy in here and you'll see why when you order. The broth in all the ramen warms your body like your grandma's famous chicken noodle, only with a little Asian twist. The happy hour is pretty great for beer and the prices overall are unbelievable considering how much and how good the food is. They're always playing great Top 40 radio in here too, always a party!

This is our go-to place for delivery ramen, but he restaurant itself never seems to be super busy so when we go there in person. I'd probably give it a 3.5 out of 5 given the option, but the fact that delivery is generally quick and the food still hot gives it that extra 0.5. I've only ever had the ramen, but I'm assuming if you're looking at the restaurant you're primarily interested in ramen. I've yet to have a bad experience and I've had everything from the Chasu, Kimchi, to the Butter ramen (I've gone through the entire list). Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for decent ramen without much of wait. Sure, there are better places in the city, but sometimes I just want it delivered or not wait an hour to eat. My only real complaint would be that when the ramen is delivered the soup base isn't labeled with which ramen it comes with. Some soups use the same base, but it isn't particularly obvious at times until it's too late...

Sandwich shop
Hello Sandwich & Noodle, established in 2017 by chefs Stuart and Nicole, offers a warm and inviting setting for diners to indulge in delectable meats, crisp vegetables, and flavorful noodles. Under the leadership of Chef Gaby, the restaurant continues to elevate its culinary offerings. The Banh Mi stands out with its perfect outer crunch and soft interior at an attractive price point. Additionally, the menu features filling noodle soups alongside vivid images for easy ordering.
Friendly, fast service with a simple menu and excellent prices. I ordered the #12 special which came with fresh veggies, herbs, noodles, pork, and egg rolls and also a grilled pork bahn mi and it was all less than $25 and ready in less than 15 minutes. The meat was well seasoned and very flavorful. I also loved the sweet tangy sauce that came with my combo. The portions are very generous as well.

Solid banh mi. Wasn't as fresh as i hoped. Service was a bit aggressive and not very friendly either. The space is a bit cramped so not suitable for dining in. Its 2 old woman cooking the food so it has the air of a really good home cooked meal. Unfortunately, it didn't taste as good as I hoped and the chicken actually tasted a bit slimy and made me a bit sick.
Krystal C — Google review
Please Go here for their sandwiches!! Hands down one of theee BEST banh mi I’ve ever had anywhere in the US! Prices are super affordable and the amount of food you get is an awesome value! This family does a really great job, please support this local business! This is an order and take-out kind of business, don’t go with expectations of table service, but do expect to get a really great loaded banh mi at a really good price!

Hello sandwich noodle serves the best affordable and tasty combination bun mi. This place is so authentic, the pho and the bun bo hue are very fresh and tasty! This place is cash only. The only problem is finding parking near city hall! I always call them on phone and pass by to pick the food up! Very recommended!

First time eating here and it is definitely delicious!! I love it because it seems to be family owned and your typical Mom and Pops atmosphere. I ordered the grilled chicken and broken rice plate and omg the chicken has that authentic home-cooked taste and feel to it. I highly recommend if you're in the area..oh, and price wasn't too bad either. 😉
Ronita I — Google review
Their banh mi and spring rolls with peanut sauce are excellent. Their peanut sauce is also on the thicker side which I really like 👍 compared to many other places whose peanut sauce is more like runny liquid. Their other options aren’t bad either; it makes great for lunch food. Highly recommend takeout as it seems this place is setup for that.
Chuckles — Google review
To start the chicken tasted low quality and felt as if they boiled it. The dish had some flavor but half of the chicken was fat. The rice was a disappointment as I suspect they left it in the rice cooker too long. The vegetables were redeeming but not enough to bring it up.
Gavin H — Google review
I’ve been ordering the vermicelli bowls, banh mis, spring rolls, and pho regularly at this spot now for almost a year, and they have never missed. The ingredients are always so fresh and portions are super generous, this is genuinely the best Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever been to, and I appreciate how much care is put into making the food and even the packaging to ensure for the best eating experience!

Jikasei MENSHO is a ramen shop located inside the Twitter building, offering a focused menu of miso broths and takeout options. The menu features thick al dente noodles with options like extra rich and creamy miso ramen and spicy curry miso ramen, customizable with various toppings and spiciness levels. The special takeout containers are designed for on-the-go enjoyment, although limited seating is available at the restaurant.
Impressive counter-serve ramen — taste authentic, mochi-wheat noodles well-cooked and chewy. Spicy Ramen X — hearty broth with a slight trace of Sichuan peppercorn, accompanied with all the standard fixings. A pleasant surprise and excellent choice when on Market.
Christopher C — Google review
Located inside a quiet and sad food court area. The veggie ramen was actually quite okay - reminiscent of Japanese curry udon that is watered down. The thick noodles were quite enjoyable as well. Just way too much spring onions on top!
Sho Y — Google review
No frills ramen spot located behind a supermarket. Almost food court like. If you want to skip the line up at the other Mensho location, test your luck here. The ramen was perfectly done! Noodles al dente, broth rich and packed with flavor. We tried spicy level 3 and it was definitely tolerable, not overly spicy. Plenty of seating available, you can watch sports on the big tv screens. Bar available right beside the ramen stand.
Vicky V — Google review
Ummmm… YES PLEASE 🥺 This place blew my hair back baby! The ramen is incredibly well made. It’s a bit pricey with the add ons but who gives a rip? If you love ramen, I cannot recommend this place strongly enough. Great broth, great noodles, delicious add ons, and even the Japanese lemon soda was tasty! I’ll definitely be back for more!

Amaaazing!! Tens across the board if it weren’t so far I’d go there all the time I really should see about just getting it delivered I ordered the spicy noodled extra spicy and it still wasn’t spicy enough but literally amazing even after only being able to eat it hours later. It was well worth the journey

Restaurant
King of Thai Noodle House is a popular chain known for serving delicious Thai noodles and curries. The restaurant offers both dine-in and take-out options, making it convenient for customers. Their hand-pulled noodles are a highlight, and customers can choose from a variety of Thai soups and sauces to accompany them. Despite the slightly dated ambiance, the food receives high praise, with dishes like red Penang curry with chicken being particularly recommended.
It is very affordable, quick and the service is awesome. I walked in asked what I could order and they made the most delicious plate of food! If you have never tried Thai food this is the place to start. If you have then you know you should come here.

After a play at A.C.T. my partner and I were hungry and went to King of Thai on Union Square. My first time there. We ordered the papaya salad. It was huge and delicious. The second dish was Pad Thai. The flavors were plentiful, and the heat was perfect. Service was fast. Restaurant was very clean. On the block next to Macy's, easy to find. Definitely will be going back.
CD A — Google review
I visited King Thai recently and ordered the Pad Thai. While the dish tasted good and seemed well-prepared at first, I unfortunately experienced stomach pain afterward. I can't say for sure what caused it, but it left me feeling uneasy about the overall experience. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant, but food safety is a big concern for me. Hoping this was just a one-off issue, but I’d be hesitant to return.

It was our first time Thai food in San Francisco and it was amazing. We visited family from Thailand at King of Thai noodle house and it was so lovely. Sarah made us the visit very comfortable and bought us some awesome food. We had Thai soup and gai pad mek mamuang and the flavor was authentic Thai. Trust me. For dessert we had mango with sticky rice and it was delicious. Besides the nice visit and the lovely talk I would totally recommend this place for its authentic Thai food. Definitely a go to!!!

Katana Ya is a popular Japanese restaurant located in the heart of the Tenderloin District, known for its long lines and delicious ramen. With options to add extra meat and vegetable toppings, Katana Ya stands out among other ramen joints. Despite its small size, this spot is highly praised for its flavorful food and friendly staff.
Very tasty ramen. We got our food on time but billing took some time. But taste of food takes over the delay. One of the best ramen place. Quantiy is great. The bowls are huge.Staff is very friendly. I took Katanaya Ramen with extra Kimichi. It was medium spicy and yummy.

Had a quick meal with my son the other night! Small place, but similar size in Tokyo were we just spent two weeks prior to arriving in SF! Our family came here right before the Harry Potter show at the Curran. The food was delicious! Portions were solid. Tan Tan ramen is highly recommended amongst the ramen choices. You won't be disappointed. The chicken tonkatsu bento was overflowing with chicken. Yum!
Howard Y — Google review
First off, if you have a shellfish allergy, this place isn't for you. We have hit up quite a few noodles in the area and can still find shops where shellfish isn't involved in every aspect. Even the chicken was a no-go because the the crust contained it. Besides this, I didn't find the broth itself that flavorful. I did have the veggie option, however, and I heard the signature dish is crazy delicious.
Rhandi M — Google review
This place is on basement and can be hard to find. It is rustic with Japanese style interior that resemble shops in Okinawa. Staffs were friendly but service was very slow despite they weren't full house. I had tonkatsu ramen, the noodle was springy with good texture but the soup was meh.. the charsiu and garnish couldn't help much too.
Mook P — Google review
We had Katanaya ramen with salt flavor, BBQ pork ramen with miso flavor, karaage, and beer for dinner. Everything seemed ready to heat again for quick serving. The ramen tasted like instant noodles for us. Fried chicken’s batter coated sloppy , although chicken was tender. The sliced BBQ pork were too chewy. I thought it’s not good enough for Asian.
Crystal Y — Google review
See the sign and the traditional Japanese drapery and walk down the steps into the restaurant. Apparently known for pork belly ramen, I opted for miso soup, seaweed salad and hot tea. I thought the food was delicious and nutritious, warming me up before the cold walk home. The service was ok which brings the rating down to three stars.
Steven P — Google review
Went at very late at night, the restaurant was still busy. But they accommodate guests very fast. Ordered the simplest dish. the broth is flavorful, bbq meat is a little on the dry side, but still tasty, the egg is cooked perfect. The only thing I would change is the noodle can be cooked one minute longer. It is too hard for my like, but maybe someone else like it that way.

Japanese restaurant
Teppanyaki restaurant
Benihana is a popular hibachi chain known for its Japanese dishes grilled tableside by entertaining chefs. The restaurant has played a significant role in bringing Japanese cuisine into the mainstream and popularizing its "eatertainment" style of presentation in America. It has also contributed to the widespread popularity of sushi across the country. Customers have praised the first-class chefs who put on an entertaining show while cooking delicious and perfectly prepared food.
The dinner was just so incredibly fun and an experience that can’t be easily reproduced. Our chef, Erin, was extremely adept and fast with the spatulas and knives. Much respect to his skill and training for being able to put on such a show. Enjoyed the chateaubriand which was cooked perfectly juicy and seasoned well. The rest of the food was quite salty, and had a similar flavor profile (soy, salt, butter). While getting seated doesn’t take too long, waiting for a chef may be a different story. After arriving on time to our 6p reservation, we were seated about 6:10p. After ordering, we probably received soup 15 minutes later, then salad another 15 minutes later. I don’t think the chef came until 7p. We finished our meal and left at around 8:15p This wasn’t a problem for us, but I would recommend diners to allocate a good amount of time in their plans for their meal. Overall, I had a blast. It takes a long time and the food is so-so, but watching the performance of a skilled entertainer/chef is a treat and absolutely worth it.
Mat L — Google review
We recently dined at Benihana, and it was an unforgettable experience! The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection right before our eyes. The chefs were not only skilled but also entertaining, making the whole meal a memorable event. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that we had everything we needed. One tip: make a reservation ahead of time to avoid wait times, as this popular spot can get busy. It’s definitely worth planning ahead to enjoy the full experience without any delays. If you’re ordering a 5 or 6-course meal, be sure to ask about additional items, as the bill can add up quickly. Overall, we had a fun and flavorful dining experience!

Atmosphere and foods were just as expected. However the performing was somewhat less entertaining than what I enjoyed in NY years ago. The service lady was nice and made us comfortable. I might try another time if I get a chance.

Freddy the chief was entertaining and made the food taste. The servings are larger than other locations. The place is very large so the noise level is high. Venting is also good as our clothing wasn’t covered in oil and smell of our food. Great place for a birthday meal

Phenomenal Experience at Benihana! We had an amazing time at Benihana tonight! From the moment we walked in, the service from Hazel was excellent—but the real highlight of the night was our chef, CARLOS! He was phenomenal—not only incredibly skilled, but also fun, engaging, and made the entire experience unforgettable. Hands down, this was the best teppanyaki I’ve ever had at any teppanyaki restaurant. Every bite was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. Carlos brought so much energy to the table and had us laughing and smiling the whole time. I was so caught up enjoying the show (and stuffing my face 😄) that I barely got any pictures—totally worth it though! If you’re planning a visit, definitely request Hazel and Carlos. You won’t regret it!

I haven't been to Benihana for years and thought I would try the restaurant because I wanted to see how the Peace Plaza renovations were coming along and to help a local business. As soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted by two persons with a smile. They advised me that it will be about a fifteen minute wait so I went to the bar. It happened to be "happy hour" so I ordered pan fried gyoza dumplings, shrimp tempura, vegetable spring rolls and a White Peach sake. The food came piping hot, just the way I like my food. Ingredients taste fresh and food presentation was good decorated with a real orchid flower. That sake drink was perfect - delicious and appealing. I should have ordered another sake for dinner because at dinner, that same drink was doubled ($18). I was seated at a table with a couple being engaged that night and a family of three celebrating the mom's birthday. My grill/table companions were nice and friendly. The person who took our orders had a super nice personality; she made you feel welcomed; she listened intently when taking our individual orders and kept checking in to see if we needed anything (eye to eye contact which made you feel special). Our chef was charming and personable. He did his usual tricks when preparing our food. He checked in with us individually to double check on how our preferences were and likes/dislikes. The menu was hard to understand. It was so confusing that I simply ordered one of the fixed price dinners. I could not understand why rice did not come with most fixed price dinners. Anyways, I ordered one bowl of chicken fried rice - portion was small and overly priced. I never paid that much for even a small bow of rice. Overall, the food was so so - they all tasted the same since they use the same seasonings (garlic butter) when cooking on all dishes (except for the green salad). The cheesecake was not worth ordering or eating. It was not restaurant made, was semi-frozen and horrible that I only ate one bite. It was super expensive for that small slice of cheesecake. I am giving it a four star because you are paying for the ambiance, a show from the chef and probably the same price if you ate elsewhere. It's a good place to eat with entertainment with good, efficient, friendly service.

Super yummy vegetarian sushi and ramen. The host did a good job recommending dishes that we liked. The mushroom creamy ramen was not rich or heavy at all, and the vegetarian sushi was particularly good.

Really enjoyed my lunch date here. Our appetisers were veggie gyoza (decent) and veggie croquette (spectacular, gimme 14 of em). Then we tried the Baked Salmon Sushi and the Super Dynamite Roll. My favourite was the baked salmon, husband’s favourite was the super dynamite - so safe to say they were both delicious and tasted fresh! Would absolutely come again. I was amazed at the menu selection - the sushi alone is extensive and there’s absolutely something for everyone. But beyond that they ALSO have ramen, udon, all kinds of katsu, onomiyaki, and way more. Incredible, can’t wait to come back and try other things. Besides the food, both the server and the chef (owner?) were extremely kind and hospitable. We had a couple dietary/allergy restrictions that needed our sushi to be modified and they went above and beyond to swap ingredients to meet our needs, while still asking US if that’s okay !! We felt very cared for and so happy with the service and the food quality.

My guess is this is a family business. For someone who has been to Japan, i would say the food here tasted very similar to what I've had in Japan. The $15.99 set is unbeatable especially in an expensive city like San Francisco. High recommend the Saba Shio and Tonkatsu, very delicious. The Okonomiyaki gets great rating here but to me it was just meh. The Unagi Don on the other hand, has not been mentioned in any reviews here, is amazing. $24.99 but they chose the best cut of eel, very well seasoned and melt in your mouth texture. The rice to eel ratio is perfect. It was hand down on of the best Unagi Don I have had, comparable to Japan. Service is quick, we did arrive when they just opened so there was no wait but i could imagine the place could get packed during rush hours and limited seating. Also you would wanna look at the menu by the door and decide what you want, DO NOT opened their menu book, it smells horrible
MiMeuw — Google review
We eat at a lot of sushi restaurants, and this one in San Francisco Japantown is merely okay. Prices and selection are fine, but the rolls, for example, are somewhat smaller than what I'm used to and the sauces on the rolls are a tad overwhelming.
Kien L — Google review
I went on an early Tuesday afternoon because I wanted seating and no wait. That's exactly what I got inside, I sat down immediately and picked out what I came here for, pork okonomiyaki. The store has a moderate number of seats, and only a few people were present ordering, so I got my food pretty quickly. The okonomiyaki arrives on a hot plate that keeps it hot, and they provide a spatula to cut and serve it. Food is really really good, I started eating and then remembered to take a picture halfway thru, which is why half the food is gone in the picture. There's a good amount of pork, and the okonomiyaki has a crunch that's best when it just arrives at your table. I gulped up the whole dish and felt both happy and full. During the meal the waiter came to refill my water a few times. Given that this is in the japantown mall, it is most likely crowded and busy on weekends at mealtimes. But if you're able to get a table, I recommend this place, especially the okonomiyaki. They had a few other flavours that I want to try next time I come here.

Casual Japanese spot within the mall. My boyfriend and I were in a rush and didn’t have time to wait for the popular ramen place on the second level, so we came here instead. We were seated immediately on a Saturday for lunch at 1pm and we found that this place was homey. We had a Suzy ramen combination with the Karaage bowl and it was a good amount of food to feed us both. The broth was a tad watery and the chashu pieces were a bit hard, but overall, it was a solid spot. The team members who helped us were very nice and polite. Indoor seating as well as a couple of tables outside of the restaurant are available. Credit cards accepted. It’s a casual vibe.

*Chicken Veggie Ramen + Karaage Don combo: lots of veggies!!!! Karaage don is wonderful to split among 3 since there's only 3 chicken on top of the bowl of rice *Spicy Tofu Ramen: Kimchi is surprisingly close to the taste of Kimchi you'd eat from Korea (according to our parents), for the tofu and kimchi lover Chashu ramen: chasu is not overly fatty! That's what I consider high quality There's three south broths you can choose from! We had originally come in as a family of five with our two dogs. The staff had let other people with smaller parties in first, so we had to follow up to ask if they can divide our party with us kiddos sitting separate from our parents and the dog. They quickly accommodated us. Service was quick, and when we asked for recommendations for soup broth combos and what they recommend in the menu, we really liked what we were recommended! The portions are generous for ~$15 per ramen bowl.

Food: Fried Chicken Ramen - 3.5/5 - The ramen itself is pretty average and the soup base is fairly tasty and rich. The fried chicken comes on the side and is a decent portion Tempura Mochi - 4/5 - Always a fan of mochi and although fairly basic in taste, the chewy consistency is one that I love. Service: 3.5/5 - Friendly service. Some of the servers are better than other. Ambiance: 3.5/5 - So one of the pluses of coming here is to avoid the mall community which can be slightly disturbing.

This place is decent if you want a hot bowl of ramen on a cold rainy day. Service is quick and the ramen came out within 5 minutes of ordering. I got the spicy pork ramen and the broth did have a good kick but I wish it had more flavor. I actually really liked the chasiu pieces, there were smaller in size but thicker so it had a better mouth feel and it was tender and flavorful, the egg had good flavor but it was overcooked. Overall I would come here if you’re craving for ramen and you’re around the area.

Best place to have a shopping break at Westfield center, downstairs under the Nordstrom side, not the Bloomingdale’s side. Fast, efficient, no wait, tasty, hit the spot, varieties ramens, snacks and boba drinks, my favorites: black truffle ramen, spicy pork ramen, Tom Yum Seafood Ramen, Baby Clams Ramen, Gilled Hokinido Scallop, Grilled Eel, Mochi Tempura, and Dragon Roll.

I've been here many times. I love them! The vegetarian noodle has excellent soup base. Fried tofu and seaweed salad were good too. The service is fast and courteous.

The pork combo ramen was very tasty! The broth was thick and rich. We also tried the fried chicken curry, which i liked because the chicken was very crispy. Service was fast. Great variety.

Casual ramen eatery in the mall’s food court. Good ramen but even better small seafood plates. The baby octopus is really good along with their scallops. Usually packed.

Slurp Ramen is a cozy spot offering tonkotsu- and shoyu-style ramen, rice bowls, beer & sake. Despite its name, the ikura bowl with soy marinated salmon roe and julienned scrambled eggs along with appetizers like chicken karaage and panko fried oysters are highly recommended.
Hole in the wall location, but the food and service a great. You have to try the Shoyu Tonkatsu and Tonkatsu Red. The Black Garlic Sauce is delicious. Make sure to try the Jelly Liquor in a can. Don't remember he name of it. Mid range Price but worth every cent.

Great spot for lunch. The pork chashu rice bowl is surprisingly filling given the price. The seaweed salad also has a nice crunch. Came here delirious, had a nice can of iced coffee and left smiling. If you’re looking for a quick, delicious bite you’ve gotta check it out.

This place has totally decent ramen & very friendly wait staff. While I've had way better in Japan, this place is worth the price. I had the spicy miso tonkatsu and would actually recommend getting the less spicy options. My wife had the less spicy vegetarian ramen and hers just tasted more flavorful. Mine was really spicy but it needed more salt. The only other thing I would add is that the noodles are good, but nothing special when compared to the real thing in Japan. Good overall though!

Great Ramen, always tasty and fast on a work lunch. The spicy miso tonkotsu is my favorite. Good to get there a few min before 12 and you'll never wait to sit.

Great FIND! Tasty dishes with ALL the right notes. Not salty with variety of ingredients. It was perfect in taste and portion. Tried 3 appetizers, the chicken, fried oysters and gyoza. Excellent again! 😋😋 Gyozas were perfect texture and so fresh! Batter on oysters were also perfect. Moist center and not burnt but crispy. YUM again. Main dish PERFECT PREFECT AGAIN! 👍👍 We tried the mochis, so many flavors to chose... 5 Stars in ALL areas. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Depending on the time, there may be a little wait but TOTALLY WORTH IT. . BTW - Wait wasn't long!

Fantastic food and fantastic service. The ladies here attending the tables were very friendly, helped me and guided me through my selections since it was my first visit to Slurp Ramen. The food taste and appearance was incredible. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place was awesome! I love looking for good ramen shops when I'm in new cities, and this one hit all of my marks. I personally got the shoyu ramen and added some pork belly. So savory and delicious. The service was also amazing and quick. When I visit again, I'll be sure to stop by.

Ordered their spicy miso ramen and was pleased with the amount of spice (as someone who likes spicy food). The pork was really soft and the softboiled egg was just right. The seaweed had a slightly odd flavor to it, but it was a pretty minor thing overall. Nice service.

Restaurant
The Spice Jar is a casual Asian fusion restaurant serving delicious family-style food in a homey space. The service is good and the portions are generous, making it a great value. The meals are flavorful and well executed, with great broccoli tempura and calamari salad as highlights. The pork ramen was closer to Malaysia style, just sadly with hard boiled eggs, but overall the food was very good.
What a fun hidden gem! I came here with a friend with no reservation and no line on a Thursday night. Good: - Loved the laksa noodle soup here - so much flavor and the coconut flavor was very pronounced and good. - The fries here were great and I loved the dipping sauce - Good place for a catchup - it was nice and quiet inside and good clean vibes that felt homey - Staff were so kind and willing to help! - Good value! Bad: - Took a bit for entrees to come out! Overall this was a great find, and tucked into a nice corner of the mission. I will be back!

Casual corner depot perfect when in the mood for Asian, but not quite decided on cuisine. Clever interior, with a few outdoor tables. Laksa noodle soup, flavorfully authentic — a surprise especially considering ramen shares a place on menu. Great for walk-in lunch, weeknight dinner or non-committal first date.

The spice jar The spice jar is a solid place for Asian food of all kinds. The menu has a great variety of dishes and everything is really good. The prices range between 13 and 19 dollars per dish, depending if you go for lunch or dinner. Everything has the right amount of spice and flavor. I definitely will keep checking them out for their awesome dishes.

Quaint. The calamari salad was to die for. It can get loud and out table was by the door so a lot of foot traffic. Place was packed on a Friday night. But that's a good sign. Food was delish, portions were hearty and price was fair
Zephyr A — Google review
Let me start by saying that my wife and I were both super excited to go here because of the great reviews and the amount of dishes. We went there for a Saturday night dinner and started off with the Vietnamese coffee for her and Nigori Sake for me. She loved the coffee however it was not made with typical Vietnamese ingredients. It seemed like chicory coffee instead of Vietnamese ground coffee. We also ordered the Korean Wings, Garlic Fries with curry mayo, Pork Bao, and Tonkatsu Ramen. The Korean Wings were cooked really well and were pretty sticky but the taste was incredibly sweet. The Garlic fries with curry mayo were the best part of the meal but again there wasn’t anything that stood out except perhaps that the curry powder used was the Japanese brand. The Tonkatsu Ramen ( one of the main reasons I went there) was super bland. The broth barely had any flavor. I kept having to add Sriracha to get some flavor. There was no umami, definitely no Tonkatsu. It had pork belly, which would’ve been fine if it was actually good. It was not! I am an avid lover of Ramen. This was not good ramen. The noodles were somehow undercooked and barely edible. The Pork Bao tasted like balsamic vinegar and sherry with too much sweetener. It had none of the notes of authentic pork bao. You can find authentic pork bao on Clement st. To be honest, the pork was over cooked and incredibly fatty. The highlight was that the service was incredible. They were very attentive without being in your face. The service was a 5/5 but food was 2/5. It’s a good place to hangout after a few drinks but not meant for foodies, especially individuals looking for an authentic meal.
Navi K — Google review
This place is incredible. We had the wings, miso eggplant, fried rice and bao. Everything was exceptional. Beautifully played, delicious, and when the bill came….I couldn’t believe it. So reasonably priced! If this place was on Valencia, it would be 2 x as much. You need to check this place out. It is seriously a gem.

Homemish atmosphere with delicious Asian Californian fusion. Generous portions, very nice service, and good value. Lovely broccoli tempura, great calamari salad, and Mongolian beef wok. Pork ramen was closer to Malaysia style, just sadly with hard boiled eggs.

Tonton Restaurant is a charming and intimate eatery known for its delectable katsu, chicken ramen, and pork katsu. Situated in a convenient location, it's easily accessible even during peak hours. Guests have praised the reasonable prices and pleasant atmosphere of this small mom-and-pop shop. The warm and welcoming service adds to the appeal, making it a must-visit spot for ramen enthusiasts seeking generous portions of well-seasoned broth and fresh ingredients.
I've been here a few times while staying nearby. My go to is the house ramen tonkatsu. There is plenty of food, the broth is just spicy enough. The meat is tender, and the egg is perfectly jammy. The service is fast and pleasant. They keep the water filled. I had the single serve saki, which was mild and way more than I could consume by myself.

I love everything about the food I just don’t like the way cashier said “this bill not include the tip” while i am standing in front of the cashier to pay in cash. (for me it sounds like “HEY!GIVE A TIP NOW!) Well, this is US ! i am as a tourist knew that every-time i eat in the restaurant should give a tip with min.18% So i just said to the cashier “i’ll put on the table” For comparison, the next day i do the the same thing in steak restaurant ( i mean, i pay in cash and eat. After eat i put the tip on the table ) the cashier not even say “please don’t forget the tip after you eat” or anything about the ‘tip’ I believe You can improve your communication :) Thanks

It’s easy to walk past this Ramen spot, in fact I did, luckily I wasn’t in the mood for bento. Ramen is what I needed on a cool San Francisco evening. I ate as a solo diner, in for a bowl of House Ramen. I’ve got to say, this Ramen rivals any great bowl in the city. The base hold the bowl together so well, it rich, fatty, slightly creamy and lots of umami. The shoyu egg was perfection 🙇🏻‍♂️ noodles were firm and delicious, toppings were fresh and a nice accent to the dish I’ll be back soon 🤙

1 Star I actually enjoyed my meal at Tonton—I'll give credit where it's due. The Tan Tan Ramen was my usual go-to and it hit the spot with solid flavor and spice. I even found it hilarious (and kinda awesome) that the entire kitchen staff was speaking Spanish while whipping up Japanese food. Respect to the cooks. BUT HERE'S WHERE IT GOES DOWNHILL: After I left, I opened my browser to check my receipt—only to find that the host took it upon himself to tip himself 10% after I clearly wrote NO TIP on the receipt. That’s not just sneaky, that’s straight-up theft. This isn’t some misunderstanding or accidental charge. This is a hustle, plain and simple. A scam. If they’re doing this to me, how many other customers are getting robbed without even noticing? Shame on the front-of-house staff. The food might be worth coming back for, but not if I have to watch my wallet like I'm in a casino. Be warned: check your receipt, and check your bank statement. This place will help themselves to your money if you’re not looking. Disgusting behavior.

Big portion sizes and good value. Nice ramen, rich flavour without it being overly salty like a lot of ramen places tend to be. Small and cozy venue. Good service, seem to be very popular with people coming for a quick meal. Will definitely return!

Had a really bad experience eating out here. We were a party of 5 who entered and couldn't find anyone at the desk. There were no board stating Wait to be seated. The restaurant was 50-60% empty. We waited for 3 minutes and no one attended to us. So I asked my family to take a seat and went all the way to their billing desk which was way inside to talk to someone. The lady at the desk immediately got upset that we seated ourselves. She showed she was upset with her communication but let us sit at our tables. She immediately told that if we want to eat Thai, we need to go next door. We confirmed with her that that we want to eat Japanese. She immediately then cautioned us that she doesn't serve any vegan stuff. I then told her that we are perfectly good with meat. Food was decent. The same lady served us in a very upset manner by placing the food on the table in a very unhappy manner and spilling stuff on our table. She did come and clean it up afterwards. While I went to pay the bill, I was about to tip her on the bill receipt. Before I could do that, she placed a finger on my receipt and pointed out how much tip she needed for serving us - a party of 5. Along with what happened earlier, this didn't sit well with me. A tip is earned and not demanded. I explained to her that I am not giving her a tip and told her why. Just felt the overall experience was bad and would definitely stay away.

Oooooh yeah! One of the best Tonkotsu Ramen I ever had. The Chashu was juicy and on point, the ingredients were perfectly balanced in amount and taste, the broth was rich and perfectly seasoned and the over all amount of food was just perfect. Can't remember when I finished the entire bowl last. If you enjoy having an honest, tasty bowl of Ramen, search no further and try Tonton. Thank you!

Torraku Ramen - Potrero is a ramen restaurant that offers made-to-order bowls of delicious noodles topped with both vegetable and pork options. Originally starting as a food truck, this eatery has expanded to two brick-and-mortar locations in SF. Their flavorful ramen is created using organic broth made from slow-cooked pork-chicken mixture, simmered for over 15 hours.
Awesome all the way around, the staff offered great recommendations for my first time here. Great food & Drinks look forward to stopping by again soon!.

Food comes out super quick! Ramen is very tasty. I had tonkotsu ramen. You can choose spicy level 1-4, I chose 3 and it has some lingering heat but not overwhelming. You can also choose between fried garlic or black garlic. I chose black garlic. We dined in. No real atmosphere, just clean and chill. Would def come here again!

We went gate for dinner. It’s a nice restaurant with great vegan and vegetarian options. I had the vegetarian ramen which was a must based ramen with soft Boiled egg. I chose the bean sprouts, mushrooms as the toppings. My friend chose the tonkotsu ramen. Both the ramen were really great. It was mild spicy where we could taste the flavor of the actual ingredients. We also ordered the tempura platter and the pink gyoza. The appetizers were really good as well. The tempura batter was really light and the combination with the soy sauce was really good. Overall it was really good culinary experience.

Unpretentious atmosphere and amazing ramen. Had the tonkatsu, one with black garlic and the other with fried garlic. The pork belly was cured, which added a nice smokey element. All very good and flavorful. Large portions for a decent price, plenty to split unless you are a big eater. Definitely a place to remember for the future.

**VEGAN OPTIONS** Found this place on DoorDash and I wasn't disappointed! I recommend trying if you're in the neighbourhood. Got 1 Veggie Ramen No Egg, 1 Miso Vegan Ramen, and Edamame-- all vegan, of course. The Miso Vegan Ramen was our favourite, delicious broth and vegan meat. The Veggie Ramen No Egg was also nice, you choose your own veg. Also you can choose your spice level for both dishes. The Edamame was lovely too! If you are getting it for Take Away or Delivery, I suggest reheating the broth when it arrives, before adding the noodles and veg. HOT ramen is best :) And now I learn there is an entire art to eating Ramen, one I've not yet mastered. I need more practice ;)

Good ramen, especially for the area! It's a convenient counter ordering system, and the restaurant has parking. Definitely hits the craving, and convenient for a rainy day. I hear this plaza will soon be taken down for a new apartment building, but until then, I'll be back!

Smartly painted, counter-serve ramen joint. Friendly service. But the food itself was slightly off in terms of taste. The chicken karaage had almost a smoky flavor and the batter (though good), seemed better suited for tempura. The miso ramen, though tasty, again didn’t seem to taste very Japanese.

Nute's is a hidden gem in Bernal Heights, offering a cozy and unassuming atmosphere with delightful decor. The small ramen menu is packed with flavorful options, and the Saturday lunch specials are not to be missed. Despite the lack of visible signage, this spot comes highly recommended by locals. The wait for a table can be worth it as the gyoza appetizer and noodle dishes are described as delicious.
I had the Chicken Khao Soi at Nute’s, and it was fantastic. The broth had just the right consistency—not too thick or too watery—making it perfectly balanced. It had a mild spiciness that kept it from being too rich, which I really enjoyed. I also ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen and Okra, and everything was delicious. Despite the restaurant being very busy, the staff remained polite and attentive. I went on a Friday at 6 PM, and the line was quite long, so I recommend visiting during off-peak hours for a shorter wait. I would definitely return when I get the chance!

Let's go nuts over Nute's. I must have walked by dozen times not realizing that we have hidden gem in this neighborhood, then somehow I found my way in and sampled. The Thai cuisine influenced dishes are certainly a nice change up from what Corteland has to offer. The pork belly salad wrap gets my high marks, the karage was scrumptious and the Thai curry over noodles wasn't what I was expecting but the flavors worked. The place is kinda cute once you are inside and feels warm and welcoming. From the outside you don't get that initial impression... Go check it out

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Located in a prime busy Street filled with many other competitive restaurants which were all filled with people. I put my name on the waiting list, I was a party of one, so it only took me about 25 minutes to get seated. There were larger parties, who waited a bit longer. The place was clean, cute small and cozy. The service was great, and our server was amazing. 🤩 Did a thorough job with cleaning each table in between customers. I narrowed it down to the curry and the Ramen, I ordered the curry and it was delicious. 😋
Adriana P — Google review
The apps were good, the ramen wasn’t, it was like a broth, there was no body to either one. Should have read the reviews and ordered the Thai soup instead.

Every dish was 👌🏽…. This spot is a gem, and it best of everything. Yakisoba, drunken noodles, karage, gyoza, all of it was so flavorful and just delicious!
Adweeth S — Google review
Spicy Miso Ramen misses the mark in terms of authentic Japanese, flavor of broth consists mostly of jalapeño and lacks depth. Thai food may be the better option at this dual country kitchen. Will be back to try the Thai noodle soups. Smartly designed, pan-Southeast / East Asian interior.
Christopher C — Google review
The food was excellent — we had the Drunkin’ Noodle and Khao Soi, and both were flavorful and authentic. I’ve been looking for a Khao Soi in the U.S. that comes close to what I had in Thailand, and this definitely fits the bill. The only frustration was the $18 per-person minimum, which we weren’t told about until after ordering. As a couple, we usually like to share an appetizer and an entrée when we go out, so this policy felt restrictive — especially since we were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived. Still, the food quality makes it worth a visit — just be aware of the spending minimum before you go. Food: 5/5. Restaurant policy: 0/5 for lack of transparency and an unjustified minimum spend.
Forking R — Google review
It’s small, so expect a wait, but worth it. The food here is fantastic. The Thai dishes are good but kind of average. It’s the Japanese and fusion dishes that will blow your mind. The karage is some of the best I’ve had (and I’ve had excellent karage in Tokyo), gyoza is great and anything they tempura is usually fab. Very cool place and highly recommended.

The Ramen Bar in San Francisco's Embarcadero District offers a Tokyo-style ramen experience with fresh ingredients and gluten-free noodle options. A standout dish is the shrimp with crab dumpling in pickled ginger-clam broth, sweet corn, and mizuna. Customers praise the quick service and delicious Tokyo Shoyu Ramen, although some find the noodles to be just okay.
They have great happy hour specials: chicken kaarage, wings and baos are all $5. Tried the spicy miso and shoyu ramen and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The egg is so good I wanted to order another one. Save room for dessert and try the wasabi pea rice crispie treat

I ordered the Tokyo Shoyu Ramen and it was delivered in less than 10 minutes. The presentation of it was nothing less than what I have typically come to expect from ramen eateries, with the ingredients arranged neatly and methodically. The broth was rich and tasty and the meat was absolutely delicious! The only reason why I give it 4 stars is because the noodles itself were just okay. I like my ramen noodles to be a little firmer and just a tad thicker. The restaurant operates like a fast food joint with elegance. You wait in line, order your food, pay, and then find a place to sit. The interior is beautifully designed with plenty of seating and if the weather is beautiful, there is outdoor seating. Each table also had Japanese pepper, a chili paste, and some seasoning available - all which complemented my meal nicely. Overall, this is a great place to have lunch in the city and I would definitely come back!
Azul G — Google review
Very corporate inauthentic place. This is way too pricy for the quality and portion size. Udon broth tastes like blend hot water. Hokkaido broth was ok but added chicken was low quality dark meat. We are not coming back.
Jan P — Google review
Serviceable ramen. If you’ve had anything close to “authentic” ramen, you’ll likely be disappointed. Tried both tonkatsu and Tokyo-style ramens. Both lacked unctuousness and depth. But twist my arm, make me come back, I’d pick tonkatsu over Tokyo. Tokyo was both bland and salty at the same time. Tonkatsu had some pork flavor, but no lip-sticking gelatin-y goodness. Both came with two decent pieces of chasu pork and springy, pretty tasty ramen noodles, so not all is bleak. Service was kinda abysmal. Our gyoza (only 5 to an order) came but we weren’t given plates. Dirty dishes were not cleared. Attitude was generally apathetic. Space is large and somewhat cavernous. Good for group. Beer, sake, and limited liquors available.

This is pretty much the Chipotle of ramen. It is not bad, but not exceptional. Much better than the cheapo ramen you get at sushi restaurant, but not as high quality as places like izakaya Souza. The food was... fine. Got the vegetarian shoyu. Soup was tasty and the noodle was good (I assume not vegan but didn't ask). Could have used more tofu. Rating low because like others have mentioned, we were presented a bill with a gratuity added - just 2 people for lunch. This isn't displayed anywhere on their menu or otherwise. After running the credit card the second slip had a tip field as well. I'm fine if they've got a minimum gratuity, that's their prerogative. but make that VERY clear.

We first ordered a steamed pork belly bun, and the picture from the menu was not accurate to what was served as the dish was very small and would be an appetizer for one person, not two. We ordered two spicy miso pork ramen bowls and the ramen noodles were maruchan top ramen quality with tajin as the spice? The pork belly in the ramen bowl was also very overcooked. We were disappointed by this restaurant and the quality of their food. Unfortunately, we will not return, but we thank the staff for their service as they were timely and friendly -- be aware though that tip is included in your bill :)

We stopped into Toppu Ramen & Dim Sum while exploring San Francisco and absolutely loved it. I ordered the beef ramen and it was perfect from start to finish. The broth was rich and flavorful without being too heavy, the noodles were just the right amount, and the toppings, especially the egg and beef, tied it all together beautifully. We also tried the gyoza and enoki mushrooms, which were both delicious. For drinks, my partner got a cold Sapporo while I had a lychee drink that was fun and interactive. The service was outstanding. Our server was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the meal even better. The atmosphere is cozy but lively, making it a great place to sit down, take in the sights and sounds of the city, and enjoy a hearty meal. Portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and it is definitely a spot I would recommend for both locals and tourists. Whether you are after a casual lunch, a cozy dinner, or a quick stop during your city adventures, this place is a gem.

New American restaurant
Hazies is a popular newcomer in the Hayes Valley dining scene, offering a diverse menu of small plates and shareables. The restaurant has quickly gained attention for its approachable yet thoughtfully prepared dishes that cater to a wide range of tastes. With its inviting atmosphere and delicious food, Hazies has become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. The bright and spacious interior, along with fair prices for great drinks, makes it an ideal place to unwind in the neighborhood.
We had steaks with French fries and fried broccoli. Yes, it was delicious. But warn the waiter right away so that the chef does not add salt to the dish!!! - apparently the chef is in love and everything was oversalted, but it was still delicious. The German Riesling was really excellent. Lots of people, the bar works great, the waiters know their stuff. I give it 5 despite the overcrowding of the dish.

Cozy and cute spot for tasty American fare! I visited Hazie’s for a Saturday morning brunch on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the space was! The restaurant is spacious and extremely cozy, with ample seating and sunlight. The staff was remarkably friendly, cheerful, and attentive — they joked around with us, noticed immediately when we finished eating and boxed up our food / cleared plates, and were just all around an absolute delight. The food was also very tasty, although I think I’d be excited to come back for lunch / dinner vs. brunch and try from a more expansive (and more vegetarian-friendly) menu. I got their mushroom frittata, which was delicious; it was absolutely packed with mushroom, spinach, and leek, and it came topped with a generous spread of melty goat cheese and pico de gallo. I loved the pop of freshness from the pico — it was much needed to cut through how dense and heavy the frittata was otherwise. It also came with four slices of toast, although they were a smidge too buttery. My partner got their burger with avocado and a side salad and was also very impressed; he commented it was likely a 90th percentile burger for him. It was quite sizeable and cooked at a perfect medium (as he had ordered it), and I appreciated that they put all the tomatoes and pickles on the side so they didn’t get the burger all soggy. The salad was very fresh and quite tasty as well, and was a refreshing break between bites of burger (or, for me, frittata).

Great vibe in here and cute cocktails and food. I loved the duck carbonara (the get their pasta from tony’s!) but it was like super salty. Had a few bites of my friend’s burger and it was really great. Love this spot for a group of friends!

So I tried Haziest a few days ago and I'd give this place a big thumbs up. I didn't feel hazy or drowsy but enjoyed the bold flavors presented in every dish. From the cauliflower to the buns the salad the duck carbonara and the chicken. All presented beautifully and sending one's taste buds across the spectrum. Each dish was also nicely presented, so nice that some of my friends dug in faster than I could take a photo. Any drawbacks you might ask. The wine selection is not spectacular but they make up with the bar on their cocktails.
R M — Google review
Beautiful brunch spot with a concise but varied menu! I ordered the avocado toast which was tasty. I tasted the French toast which was decadent and delicious, and the Croque Madame which, although not to my taste, had an unexpected hint of truffle. The cocktails looked excellent and the atmosphere was laid back but vibey. The service wasn’t great but it didn’t materially affect the overall experience
Nicole D — Google review
The perfect autumnal gnocchi - yes that's a thing - topped off with one of the best coconut cakes. Hazie's never disappoints but something about tonight's meal kicked it up a notch. They have fast become the heart of Hays Valley.

Excellent chicken with a great sauce. Food was really good. Fast service. My order had a small error but no biggie tasted spectacular.

We came in for an impromptu dinner last night from Marin. First time. What a pleasant surprise! Great food, smooth and well-timed service. We were checked on by a manager a couple of times (a gentleman with an interesting accent). Made us feel special. We'll be back!

Ramen restaurant
Miki is a Japanese restaurant known for its modest yet delicious ramen and udon dishes, as well as teriyaki and sake options. The broth of their ramen is described as rich and flavorful without being overwhelming, complemented by springy noodles and sesame seeds for a nutty flavor. The slices of pork on top are considered decent. The restaurant offers good food in a charming setting, with generous portion sizes.
Great little spot in the Richmond. The ramen was really good and the sushi was like a 4/5. Would highly recommend. They only have about 5 tables so come early !
Rafi A — Google review
Nice cozy spot with some good ramen!! Staff are really nice and attentive too!
Shona M — Google review
Tried Miki Japanese on Balboa and it was a good experience. Friendly staff and efficient service along with a casual ambiance. The chirashi bowl had fresh fish with seasoned rice, nicely portioned and balanced. The salmon teriyaki and mixed tempura bento was also solid — the salmon was cooked well with a flavorful glaze, and the tempura was crisp without being oily. The bento sides rounded out the meal well. Overall, a good spot for Japanese food in the neighborhood.
David H — Google review
I sat inside to eat a couple times a few years ago. But recently, since I live nearby, it's easy to order online pickup for convenience. They usually give the option of picking up ASAP (20-35 mins). I'd say the best options I've had were the cold soba and chicken katsu. Cold soba: 4.5/5. I inhaled the noodles, wish there was more! Hot soba: 4/5. Not bad, just not as good as the cold soba noodles. Tempura was good. Chicken katsu curry: 4/5 actually ate most of it the next day, still good. Chicken can be crispier for a 5. Chicken broth ramen: 3/5. Greasy/oily, would pass on the ramen here. It was better a few years ago. Salmon sashimi: 3/5. Didn't taste as fresh. So this is somewhere I come by if I'm craving some Japanese food and don't want to travel far. Great for locals! But I wouldn't go out of the way for it. Also, I think if they improved their signage on the outside it could attract more business, since it's not that clear that the building is "Miki Restaurant"

great small cozy spot for sushi. i had the california roll and the rice melted in my mouth so good!

Food 4; Ambiance 3.5 (my chair felt like it was about to break); Service 4; Chirashi had some different ingredients you normally don't get. Karage was good but at a high cost. This place has always been a neighborhood favorite and remains consistent. 2 people; $55

Small spot that's easy to miss on Balboa. Cozy inside with friendly and fast service. Tried the tonkatsu ramen, spider roll and crab shrimp roll. The ramen was not bad. Both sushi rolls came with a lot of sauce on them, maybe teriyaki sauce, and was a little too salty for my tastes. Would try something else next time.
Joyce L — Google review
First time trying Miki even though I’ve lived in the area for a while. Got vegetarian ramen and assorted tempura for take out. The tempura was the best I have ever had. Everything was cooked so well with a tasty, crispy batter. And they chose good veggies too, (the broccoli was amazing). I gobbled it up. Ramen was also really good!

Restaurant
Nestled between the Inner and Outer Richmond, Kaiju Cooks is a delightful ramen haven that offers an array of flavorful noodle dishes. Among their standout options are the signature spicy Kobe beef ramen and a unique tom-yum-inspired seafood soup featuring a refreshing coconut-lime broth. The ambiance is vibrant, adorned with twinkling lights that make for great Instagram moments. While some dishes may feel experimental—like the unconventional meatballs or slightly tough pork—the restaurant's creative spirit shines through.
Nice small place for good ramen. Everything was tasty. One server working but it works out since there are maybe 7 or 8 tables. Food came out surprisingly quick. Worth a repeat.
Thomas H — Google review
Small place. Only Street parking available. But the ramen is very good. I got the karrage ramen and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of chicken. Soup base and noodles are great. I got the lunch special so it came with gyoza. Price is reasonable. So far one of my favorite ramen places in the area.
Ron L — Google review
Hokkaido Ramen is nicely spicy but not burning. Ramen is properly chewy. Kurobota sausage is equally chewy and soft at the same time. This would cost twice as much in Japantown. Much better than Ippudo. They also have a Kumamoto-style (garlic oil/chips) ramen (pic with egg yolk) with fatty pork belly that's extremely addictive.
Dixon L — Google review
a little tiny place in a residential area. you may not miss this place at the corner of balboa and 17th avenue but it's a tiny place and depending on what time, parking in 2 blocks will be challenging. maybe 20 seats there but pretty much cozy place. menu is not that big and I assume they are all same as kaiju eats. not any dish you can only find there but it seems they converted a residential space into a restaurant. seems a bit weird but taste. I ordered kaiju kobe ramen with added panko egg, it's not hard boiled egg inside so if you not like raw egg, even panko deep fried, don't. and kimuchi. egg is so tasty and kimuchi, I don't think they make therm there but decent. not waterly, not so dry. it's a good additional to spice it up but I'm not sure they changed the way they make noodle or noodle itself, kaiju eats also the taste of noodle is less tasty as well as soup. taste like they hide boring instant ramen noodle with spicy soup you can't even tell how taste it like because it's so spicy! so, I give average rate. we went Thursday evening around 7. not packed, only 2 empty table. no waiting but only 1 server for entirely place. she was attentive, friendly but I kinda hesitated to ask her water because she kept moving, cleaning, bringing food, so busy so I felt a bit bad to add something on her duty. satisfied but nothing original there. to be noticed. pic is takoyaki, octopus ball appetizer with yellow mysterious spice that seems they put it on everything
Yuki M — Google review
A little bit expensive and a little wacky. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere with plenty of lights and ordiments to spice up your Instagram. The food itself is somewhat experimental and could use a little work. The addition of meatballs was clearly not traditionally Japanese and the pork was a little tough. Overall I get the impression that this restaurant wants to make something that stands out but isn't quite there yet. I hope they continue to develop their recipe and create something unique. Also the waitress was cute.
Calvin T — Google review
Nice little mom and pop restaurant! Get the karaage! Super tasty, ordered alot of food thinking appetizers would be small but little did I know.. walked out of the place with a giant food baby! Aha
Matthew S — Google review
This place is a sleepy gem in the Richmond area. There isn’t a ton of seating inside BUT the food is outstanding and portions are generous.
Rachel D — Google review
I had lamb skewers&fried tofu&sake&water, quick service and reasonable price. Next I try ramen
