Lankford's Grocery & Market, established in 1937, is a classic American eatery located in Montrose. Originally a market, it transitioned into a diner known for its big, messy burgers that have become a Houston staple. The kitschy space exudes nostalgia and offers traditional desserts and Tex-Mex filtered breakfast platters. The menu also features creamy milkshakes and Peach Cobbler.
Lankford's is a wonderful old school burger restaurant. Inside is nostalgic, no nonsense and that hole in the wall feeling that let's me know I'm in the right place. I was instantly greeted, seated and serviced. My food came out hot and quick. The bacon cheeseburger was fresh, flavorful and flawless. Curly fries and fried green tomatoes were delicious. Everyone was very courteous and I was offered free iced tea to go. Would definitely come back!
Ray B — Google review
A true neighborhood gem. Old school, cooked to order burgers and fries. Small seating area inside and then good amount of covered seating outside. Burgers were well seasoned, juicy, and fresh. Loved the hot, crisp tots and fries with it. Definitely an easy place to come out and relax while eating a good, home made burger
Jen S — Google review
super sweet staff!!! delicious burger. we got fried tomatoes and pickles!!! the fried part was perfect and seasoned so nicely. the lady who helped us out was so wholesome and kind. the inside felt like we weren’t in the middle of Houston! felt very homey and retro in a way. definitely give this place a try its so nice.

I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty, satisfying burger in a relaxed and local setting! 🍔 I had the Houston Burger and it was delicious. The patty was juicy and perfectly cooked, the bun was soft, and the toppings were fresh. You can really tell they use quality ingredients and take pride in their food. Regarding the atmosphere it was warm and authentic, with that charming old-school Texan diner vibe that makes the experience even better. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming feel of the place ♥️
Gauthier — Google review
We had to stop here because we saw it on Texas Bucket List and Texas Day Tripper. My husband is still on the search for the great hamburger. He was pretty impressed with this stop on our list. He really enjoyed the hamburger and tots. My 11 year old loved the blt. I had the fried green tomatoes and a burger. The fried green tomatoes were amazing. I would say this is a great place to stop and grab a bite to eat. The service was great and the food was good.
Jana H — Google review
Someone was gate keeping this place from me! The brisket burger was awesome along with the fried green tomatoes! Trying to make this my “once a week spot” I will definitely make sure I tip more on my next visit, was kinda confused about if I ordered at the counter or if there was a wait staff! Yessssssssss I will be back and have been telling everyone! Customer service is superb! Thank you all!
Erin B — Google review
I stopped by Lankford’s Grocery & Market last Friday afternoon after seeing a TikTok about their famous Grim Burger—and wow, it did not disappoint! I ordered it to go with a side of fries, and this meal was one for the record books. The burger was massive and packed with flavor; I could only manage half in one sitting but enjoyed every bite (and, of course, finished all the fries!). Tezza, my waitress, was super kind, and every staff member I encountered was just as friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth the visit—I’ll be back to try another one of their classics soon!

A triple D restaurant. Service was awesome and the food was great. Started with fried green tomatoes then shared an order of Rustic Fries. I had the club sandwich and my son had the patty melt.

El Rey Taqueria, located at 910 Shepherd, offers a unique fusion of Cuban and Mexican cuisine from breakfast through dinner. The restaurant is known for its authentic and affordable dishes, including customizable breakfast tacos, Cuban coffee, tortas (Mexican sandwiches), tacos al pastor, ropa vieja, and Cuban sandwiches. Despite the perception that Cuban delicacies can be pricey, El Rey Taqueria makes them accessible to all.
The roasted chicken and shrimp salad was delicious, with a great combination of flavors and generous portions. However, the dining area is rather small and can become quite crowded, making it more suitable for takeout orders. The service was satisfactory. However, it would be beneficial if the staff had a more comprehensive understanding of the menu items.

Delicious food and so many menu options. I typically get tacos and the power bowl with beef. Taco number 21 is delicious and has plátano crema and beans
C R — Google review
Went in for lunch on a Friday and the wait was honestly really quick, for a busy day. Got the Al Pastor Tacos, Mexican Rice and some Horchata and everything was fresh, and really hot. Highly recommend and will be back! Honestly some of the best Horchata I’ve had around Houston.
Kameron A — Google review
I came only for the Horchata. Sad to say, it doesn't taste as good as it used to. Maybe it's good for the white people around here??? Extra star for the "Large" size actually being large though. Also, they no longer have the Torta Al Pastor. ☹️ Side note: you know this place is legit ethnic food when the damn email is AOL 🤣
Anon Y — Google review
Great spot for tacos and tortas. The new rotisserie chicken garlic torta was great (especially with added fresh jalapenos). The service was fast and friendly. The dining area was clean and the bathrooms were extremely clean which is unusual for restaurants these days. Overall great experience.
Brian G — Google review
This place serves up delicious fresh foods quickly at very reasonable prices. The fresh lemonade is excellent. The Cuban beef fajita taco was outstanding, as were the guacamole, plantains, and the grilled salmon. Brian at the front counter was very hospitable and gave service better than many sit down full service restaurants. I can't wait to go back and try something new there! The flavorful food tastes so fresh and is made to order quickly.
Tom F — Google review
First time at location. Didn't know style. Picked Havana plate. Listing had something I recognized.
Michael W — Google review
Im not sure what has changed but we are very disappointed. Our full size guacamole was spoiled and brown with long onions in it and no chips. The tortas tasted old and not fresh. The soup was good as usual thankfully but everything else was disappointing. We've been coming here for years and love to support this place. We usually come a couple times a month, however the last couple visits the quality has gotten bad, today was the worst we have ever had.

Aladdin Mediterranean Cuisine is a relaxed restaurant with plenty of seating, offering a variety of Mediterranean favorites such as shawarma, kebabs, and gyros. The eatery stands out for its extensive vegetarian options, featuring over 30 side dishes that can be combined to create flavorful veggie plates. Customers can enjoy traditional dips like hummus and baba ghanoush, along with vibrant salads, grilled vegetables, and savory rice dishes.
My husband and I were in town from Atlanta and stopped in as first timers. This place is amazing!!! The minute you walk in you’re greeted by smiling staff and an incredible spread of beautiful food. (It’s cafeteria style but think extremely high-end quality!!). The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. And because it’s cafeteria style it’s very quick as everything is readily available. We will be back!

So freaking good!! The cauliflower was amazing and the mashed potato ball was very good. The Grilled Veggies were a little crispier than I expected but were good with the hummus dip. The Lamb FILET Kabob Platter was so juicy and tender! Will definitely order again. My son loved the Beef Sirloin Kebab and ate every bite. Everything was packaged so well for delivery.
Jenni G — Google review
Good, quick meal. HUGE portions, lots of vegetarian options. I enjoyed the sautéed vegetables and the hummus. The fresh bread was also a huge plus. One thing, however, was the cauliflower. It was cold and very much covered in oil, not a great combination. The person I went with had meat and they enjoyed their kebab. Would maybe come back here, but it would not be my top choice.
S M — Google review
Wanted Med food, was not disappointed! The service was very friendly and quick. I had an entree plate with saffron chicken as the main dish. It was hot, juicy and fresh. Delicious. The pita bread was piping hot, right out of the oven. The pesto pasta with black olives was also delicious. I also had something I had never seen before: mashed potatoes, fried in a bread crumb crust, with cream cheese in the center! It tasted just like it sounds. Good, not great. The taboulet was OK. Nothing special, a little bland. Needed more lemon juice. The saffron rice was also a little bland and dry, but passable. Overall, I will definitely be back and try some other dishes!
Joshua E — Google review
Some of the best Mediterranean food I e had especially in Houston. The lamb meatballs have the perfect level of spicyness! Despite the special options being a little rigid (apparently they won’t allow you to get sides a la carte), the 4 veggie side special or 1 meat 3 side special give you a lot for the money. You won’t leave feeling hungry for sure.
Brandon L — Google review
Aladdin’s in Houston is a real find! The Chicken Kabob was amazing—juicy, smoky, and cooked perfectly. The place feels welcoming, and the staff treats you like family. You can taste the authenticity in every bite. A go-to spot for anyone craving great Mediterranean food.
Shum T — Google review
Stooped in early on Tursday evening before the dinner rush. Food was very good. The pitas are fresh baked. Did the choose 3 sides plus protein. Lots of choices for the sides. Nothing fancy - just great food. Tried the roasted cauliflower, caramelized onion hummus, and tabouli for the sides, and chicken kebab, all excellent. The pitas are amazing, hot, light a fluffy! Will have to come back again to try different sides. Bonus star for local place.
RK B — Google review
We were downtown at MDA for my sons treatment. Before we went in we asked him what he wanted for lunch and he looked at maps and picked this place. I was not thrilled because its not too hard to get bad Mediterranean food. I didn't say anything because what he wants he gets on these days. I am glad I didn't fuss. The staff was great and helpful. The food was reasonably priced. They allowed my son to try a few samples so he could find something he would like which help a lot when you are on chemo and it alters your sense of taste. The 3 of us ended up with 3 different options. We tried things from each other plates an there was nothing bad on anyone's plate it was all delicious. I would definitely recommend giving it a shot!

Oishii is a family-owned Japanese eatery located on Richmond Avenue in Houston, Texas. The restaurant offers a variety of affordable and delectable Japanese dishes such as sushi, tempura, and teriyaki. During happy hour, patrons can enjoy buy-one-get-one deals on appetizers and discounted beers and sake. Oishii's menu features crowd-pleasers like sushi platters, sashimi plates, and hand rolls at reasonable prices.
Great sushi at an unbelievable price. The lunch specials are such a good deal! It’s exciting sitting at the bar watching the sushi chefs. Oishii is perfect if you have limited time to eat. The wait staff are always friendly and will explain the details of a dish without a hint of annoyance.
James H — Google review
This is a Houston staple! Unpretentious and the sushi is consistently good. Be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes in peak hours. My go-to order is Special A and I also love the Bomb roll. The staff are Houston icons as well. Some of them have been there for over a decade! Truly recommend!!
Ada B — Google review
The restaurant NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!! I have been going there for many years and the sushi is Always fresh and melts in your mouth. I drive far to eat there and will not even eat anything in the area I live off near Hwy 290. The Prices are also Great especially Happy Hour!!! THANKS TO THE OWNERS ^ STAFF!!!

We tried the Kano Salad, Spicy Salmon, and the Vegetable Tempura (especially the zucchini). everything was absolutely delicious! Fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The staff here are so nice, respectful, and always smiling, which makes the experience even better.

Very good food and service. Lunch bento box with salmon for $12.95, and you can then add a California roll for $2.00. That’s a very good deal. Happy hour menu seems great too.
Ted L — Google review
Happy Hour's BACK !! Even the Saki was on the HHr menu . There is a minimum to get the buy 1 get 1 , but we over ordered so it didn't matter to us. ( look them up to get the full scoop ) You can't go wrong with the HHr menu but I must admit that the Veggie tempura sauce was bland ( which has nothing to do with the great veggies .. but it bugged me. It looked inviting and everytime i dipped i was reminded , so i used the pork roll sauce 😄 ) . Allll the others sauces that came with the dishes added to it. We loved the pork rolls so much we had to order a second helping We did venture over to the reg menu and tried the R.M Roll shrimp , scallops, salmon , avocado with habenero mesago ( I did enjoy but maybe because of the western in me i needed the wasabi and ginger the avocado was a bit overwhelming ) The service was spot on , I think I had 3 servers because everyone kept checking on us i mean eeeeeveryone ( that's a great thing ) No room for dessert , we'll have to plan for it next time 😋

I’ve been coming to Oishii for years and honestly, I don’t get how anyone could ever leave a bad review. The food has always been fresh, consistent, and just flat-out amazing every time. You can tell they actually care about what they serve. Their Chirashi Deluxe is easily the best value I’ve ever seen anywhere — loaded with super fresh fish, generous portions, and always perfect. It’s my go-to order when I want something that actually feels worth what I’m paying for (and then some). The staff is always cool, even when it’s packed — which it usually is, because everyone knows how good this place is. Prices are solid, quality is unbeatable, and the vibe is just right. I’ve tried plenty of sushi spots around Houston and nothing compares. Oishii has been that spot for me for years and still is.
Michael T — Google review
I have been to Oishii restaurant many times in the past with my friend for lunch. This time, I was introducing my other friend to this restaurant. We went there for lunch. Their sushi and sashimi are so delicious. This restaurant has very good sushi and sashimi quality. Their sashimi prices are very cheap compared to other sushi restaurants. It is a small restaurant, but they are always busy during lunchtime. The staff is so nice and provides great service. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the Houston, TX area.

Pho Saigon is a popular Vietnamese eatery located in Houston, known for its delicious beef noodle soups and classic Vietnamese dishes. Run by Phuong Tran and his wife Rosie, the restaurant has gained a reputation for its authentic flavors and homemade meat and bone broth. The pho tai, a beef noodle soup with rare beef, is a crowd favorite. Despite being busy most nights, solo diners can usually find a table quickly due to the fast turnover.
Came in for lunch and were seated immediately. Appetizers came out quickly, and the phô soon after. All of the food was fantastic! Very flavorful, and the broth was not sweet like some variations. I was impressed with all of the options on the menu. There are a few things that most other Vietnamese establishments do not offer in the states. I wish I had tried one of them but we were in the mood for phô. I did not like that the water came in metallic cups, but that detail is negligible.

2nd time here and a great Pho spot we have come across in Houston! Soup flavor is delicious, combo pho was spot on in meats/noodle ratio for $12.95! Wife specifically wanted to come back here after our 1st visit! Hope you get a chance to try this place!

Cajun restaurant
Restaurant
Gumbo Jeaux's is a Texiana eatery located in an unconventional area near Durham and I-10. The restaurant offers a mix of Texas-style cuisine with the flavors of Cajun food from Louisiana, resulting in a unique and delicious dining experience. The menu features dishes like catfish sandwiches, Catfish Opelousas, and Southwest-style tacos with Creole and Cajun flavors. Despite the unassuming location, the restaurant provides affordable yet flavorful meals that are freshly prepared.
Loved it so much the 1st time I had to revisit a second time. The food is quality and the service is too. Nothing beats freshly breaded shrimp or catfish. If you’re into blackened catfish you must try the Catfish Opelousas 😘😍 #delicious

Walked in not knowing what to expect. Was greeted by the lovely cashier. Very welcoming restaurant was clean and tidy. We ended up ordering the big jeaux burger, a cup of gumbo and the pasta lashell. Everything came out hot and fresh and was much better than we anticipated! Everything was full of flavor and tasted fresh. We will be back!
Houston F — Google review
My husband and I decided to check this place out, and we’re so glad we did. I had the shrimp po’ boy—seriously one of the best I’ve ever had. My husband got the chicken sandwich and right away was like, “This is so good!” Everything tasted super fresh and full of flavor. The guys behind the counter were really nice and welcoming. When my husband’s order was taking a little longer, they gave us an update without us even asking, which we appreciated. The vibe was super chill, the food was amazing, and the place was full of people who were clearly loving it too. Easy 10/10—we’ll definitely be back.
Becky G — Google review
I ordered 2 gumbo and 1 salad thru Uber eats while im on a work trip. The Gumbo has NO SEAFOOD, NO SAUSAGE, NO VEGGIES, NOTHING LIKE THE PHOTOS I SAW or Gumbo I've had! I called and the employee told me they didnt have much in the batch of gumbo as if that is an acceptable answer. He also says shrimp is extra which is not online. Just know I have only Chicken, roux, and rice. That IS NOT gumbo to me and definitely not how I get it in NOLA! I could have gotten Seafood gumbo at my hotel! The pros are the roux is good and the blackened chicken salad is Good! Cons = this is definitely not like NOLA or Cajun
Shakia L — Google review
Gumbo Jeaux’s: Where Good Food Goes to Die Let me start by saying I went in hoping for Louisiana comfort food. What I got was a culinary disappointment in styrofoam containers and wrapped in foil. The crawfish étouffée was a sad, tomato colored watered down sludge pretending to be a meal. The menu has that they use sweet peppers. Well, I'm here to confirm there were no peppers, no onions, no seasoning, and certainly no soul. It tasted like someone stirred a powdered mix into water, panicked halfway through, and threw in a few spoonfuls of canned tomato sauce for color. The flavor was so off and strange. The mouth feel was horrible as it seemed to coat my tongue. The “salad” was in a cup, which might’ve been cute if the portion wasn’t the size of a toddler’s snack and topped with a bunch of shredded cheese and no dressing whatsoever. So here's what added insult to injury, I paid extra for dressing. I even asked the guy who handed me my bag about it, and was confidently told it was in the bag. Spoiler...it wasn’t. So I have few pieces of lettuce way to much cheese and NO DRESSING at all. And the bread… look, I said grilled, not cremated. I like my bread toasted, but this was a blackened brick of sorrow. In short, nothing tasted right, nothing was prepared right, and apparently, no one cared. Gumbo Jeaux’s managed to turn one of Louisiana’s proudest dishes into cafeteria sludge. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. I had to go somewhere else to get lunch. I will not be back. A word to the wise is sufficient...with the rising price of every, don't throw the money away at this place.

Velvet Taco is a trendy fast-casual chain known for its innovative taco creations and rotisserie chicken dishes. The Washington Avenue location in Houston received high praise for its exceptional customer service and customizable orders. The food is freshly prepared, with a diverse menu featuring options like chicken, fish, vegetarian, pork, and beef tacos. Additionally, the restaurant offers an impressive selection of drinks including local beer, soft drinks, Mexican Coke, white claw, bottled water, and standard beers.
Love Velvet Taco, and this location is my favorite! Sean and Pedro are the Bomb! Best service and atmosphere! Thank you! Oh, and the cake!!! Caramel sauce, yes please!

I love how this place opens so late! This is my second time getting velvet taco however the first one at this location. Chili shrimp was probably the best taco that we got, the rotisserie chicken was not good as it was very mushy and finally the Korean fried rice taco was all right. I’d come back and try their other tacos.

So happy we found this spot! Delicious and unique tacos - very allergy friendly! We loved the curry cheese dip & both got awesome tacos. I’m super grateful they have a separate gluten free menu! They made a couple of the tacos with corn tortillas for me. Would definitely go back!

We love the velvet taco off Washington in Houston. It's always clean, fast and full of friendly smiles. It's always fresh and on point.

Me and my wife did the combo and I had the mexi cali shrimp and slow roasted angus brisket tacos. And she got the birria tacos. They were so so fresh. They came out pretty quickly too. But they were absolutely beautifully presented. The little diner theme was so cute and it smelt so good inside.

Finally got a chance to try the new bowls. It was very filling. I had the sreak bowl no guacamole.

You already know, over all consistent good gourmet tacos. Some of the best cheese queso in the game. I didn’t try the margarita at this location, but usually one is usually enough to get the night started.

Bubba's Texas Burger Shack is a rustic eatery located under a highway, offering an authentic dining experience reminiscent of a bygone era. The menu features specialty bison burgers alongside traditional beef options, allowing patrons to customize their burgers with various toppings such as jalapenos and grilled onions. Known for its buffalo burgers, Bubba's prides itself on serving leaner, hormone-free patties. The casual atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for families and friends to enjoy delicious meals together.
Honestly I didn’t even notice this location every time I drove by, but once I was recommended to eat here I was completely shocked that a restaurant was under my nose!! For the border burger accompanied with the chili cheese fries. As well as a cokes The border burger was very filling, I opted for the bison meat which came out tasty and juicy, it was a great blend of ingredients and I enjoyed each bite. Chili cheese fries had a surprising kick! They were very delicious with each bite making my mouth water for more. Location is mainly outdoor seating but I felt very comfortable eating and enjoyed the good weather during the time. The staff are very friendly and welcoming as well! Will definitely come back to eat.

Delicious! My burger, the Houston Burger was amazing, I ordered everything on it, and it was awesome. Messy, but oh so good!! I loved everything about it, loved the fries that were super crispy and seasoned well, they didn’t lose their crunch as time passed… the patty was well seasoned and cooked well. Hubby got the Patty melt and then he tried mine and said mine was better because of the bbq sauce and bacon. Overall great, and I would definitely come again.

I was really in a mood for a burger and find this gem place hidden under a highway in Houston. It very small inside while ordering but plenty of outdoor seating. It's a very nice rustic place that has been eaten up the city. I order the patty melt and this was easy one of the best patty melt I have had. It was so cheesy and the meat was juicy. The onion rings are always great the way they should be made. If your in the area this is a must stop place for lunch or dinner.

This was a solid burger! I definitely should have a single patty but if you want a monster burger, this is the spot. They are nice and juicy. Great flavor. Try the the zesty pickles. ~chef kiss~ They have a beer!!! The staff is really nice. I can’t wait to come back🖤

My son and I ate at Bubba’s Saturday evening. I ordered online and when we got there, we were told they were temporarily closing for 45 minutes to restock. It was 7:20 PM! Who does that?!?! BUT…the burger was tasty. The onion rings were crispy and delicious, but appear to be frozen. The French Fries were really good, but my son didn’t really like the grilled cheese. I also got the Chili. If the burger business ever falters, Bubba’s could rebrand as the “Best Little Chili House in Texas” and print money! So good!
Russell C — Google review
The bison burgers were ok. A bit dry and not seasoned well. If I go back I will try the regular burger meat. Maybe that will taste better. But there are way too many burgers joints in Houston for me to rush back here. It’s got the “classic dive” experience. Dirty tables and a bathroom that would make you want to pee outside in the bushes instead of. The employee taking my order was polite and the catered to my specific requests.
L S — Google review
This place is different from other burger joints. We had one hamburger, two bison burgers, and one BLT. The BLT is my most favorite. The bison burgers were a little chewy and dry. We like sitting out in the patio with no trees but a parking lot of cars. This is a wakeup call of reality that many of us live in suburbs with tree-lined boulevards, green trails, walking paths, lake view, golf course view … so sorry for those struggling to live in war zones.
DuanMooMoo T — Google review
The over large black woman working the register was one of the least friendly and least helpful employees I’ve come across at a restaurant. It was as if she was angry any customer was there to order. Aside from that it was hard to find and dangerous to enter and exit the lot. Yes the food was good. Unfortunately it was not good enough to justify the drive and the outside dining in Houston heat.

Steamed bun shop
Asian fusion restaurant
Fat Bao is an Asian fusion eatery known for its steamed buns filled with a variety of options, including meat, fish, vegetables, and sweets. While some of their bao creations may not hit the mark, there are definitely standout options like the Crab Daddy and Memphis Bao. The lunch special offers great value with any two bao, a side dish, and a fountain drink for $9.25 on weekdays from 11:00 a.m.
If you love bao, this restaurant is a must-visit! The menu offers a fantastic variety, from classic pork belly and crispy chicken to delicious tofu option. Each one is packed with flavor, with soft, pillowy buns with perfectly complementing fillings. Beyond the baos, there are plenty of appetizers. Our favorite is Avocado chips. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, making it a great spot for a quick bite or a relaxed meal with friends. Highly recommend!

Fat Bao is a great place to stop for a quick bite to eat. There is a good variety of menu items, including fish, tofu, beef, chicken, and pork. There are also interesting appetizers like fried avocado, which is my favorite! Service is kind and timely. The facility is clean. The atmosphere is cozy like a coffee shop.

⚠️OINK-O-RAMA⚠️ So much yummy variety of Bao; though closer to an open face version than the dumpling style many are accustomed too; Vivé la Différencē! Saturday evening 10.27 & within an hour of closing I was nicely greeted and quickly served a Fish, the Korean Fried Chicken & the duck Bao. Fish was the stand out, KFC was really good and absent the fish would be my face... the duck was delicious and had no obvious flaws but somehow felt less than the sum of its parts (?), still worth a go if fowl is your thing + very meaty. RECOMMENDED!
BILLY D — Google review
I've been coming here for years and it still holds up as one of the best Bao places in Houston! A personal favorite of mine is the Yummy Byrd, which I frequently crave from here- it has a lightly cooked outer coat that slightly crunches when you bite into it, giving way to a soft interior. The description doesn't tell you this, but it is incredibly yummy and one of the only baos here whose exterior is lightly crunchy like this! Most of the rest have the typical soft bao breading (which is still very yummy and very good). My second favorite is the Pork Belly, which tastes like your standard pork belly found in many dishes, with the added bonus of having lightly crunchy cucumbers with it and a yummy hoisin sauce. Other notable flavors for me are Chicken Masala, Beef Bulgogi, and Pork Katsu. With that being said, you truthfully can't go wrong with any of the options as they're all very well-made. The meat on all the different choices is always cooked excellently, from the pork to the chicken to the curry to the fish; I've yet to try the duck though! The fries are very good here, and are extremely crunchy and satisfying to bite into. Don't be fooled by my photo, we had eaten well over half at that point. For 6 baos and fries, we spent almost $50, so do be aware that the price does stack up rather fast here. Luckily, the baos are very filling and most people can fully eat between 2-4 before feeling full. Overall, a very good place and I highly recommend trying at least once!

i got the pork katsu, crab daddy, and yummy byrd (from left to right). i would say my fav one is the yummy byrd! it kinda tasted like chicken alfredo. the other ones were good 7/10. i would def come back to try different kinds!

I recently had an amazing meal here and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment I walked in, the service was exceptional, especially thanks to a wonderful staff member named Junior. He was incredibly friendly and honest with his recommendations, which truly enhanced my dining experience. In fact, he's the reason I ended up getting desserts to enjoy later! Speaking of the food, the chicken masala bao was absolutely divine – a definite highlight and my favorite dish. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the bao itself was so soft and fluffy. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try more of their delicious offerings and, of course, to finally dig into those desserts Junior convinced me to get! If you're looking for something new and interesting to try, Fat Bao is the place to go.

Cute little place with lots of flavorful options. They're small, so you'll want 2 or 3. Do beware if you have a Sesame allergy, as my husband's options were limited. Curry Beef was great for us both!
Beth P — Google review
I’ve been coming to Fat Bao since 2016. In the past, the food has always hit just right, and I have always been satisfied. Today, I was disappointed with both the food and the restaurant. I’m not sure when Fat Bao stopped having menus on hand for customers to peruse, but the lack thereof is honestly irritating. Luckily there wasn’t a line today, but it’s still a bit awkward contemplating the menu at the ordering stand (and if there had been a line, we would have held everyone up..). When I asked for a menu to look at while sitting, the (very nice) cashier told me they didn’t have any, but that I could take a picture of the menu or look online. When I asked about wifi, she said Fat Bao didn’t have wifi for guests. As a restaurant, if you’ve decided to switch to online menu only for guests, you need to have a guest wifi. When it comes to the food, I had the pork belly bao and the curry beef bao. The pork belly was strangely dry, but the flavors were decent. The curry beef was pretty good (though still had dryer beef than it used to). We got the thai tea tres leches to finish, and while it wasn’t bad, it didn’t have as much flavor as I expected. Just overall less quality than a few years ago.

Every every time I’m in the area, I make sure I stop by! The tacos are amazing! The customer service is always great! Micheal, you are awesome However, today when I left the gym, I attempted to call in my order around 1 PM. Jasmine answered the phone. She seemed to be very overwhelmed. She was doing her job answering everybody professionally, but hung up the phone on me. I work in hospitality, I understand lunch rush. When I called back, Mike answered the phone and gladly took my order. I went inside the restaurant to order Jasmine Did not greet me at all she simply just waited at her register until I walked up to the register to order my breakfast taco.. Every question I had about my Taco. She seemed to be very combative and snappy. There wasn’t even a line the lunch rush seemed to pass. This is a great establishment, Jasmine please work on your customer service and treat everybody the same! You are working in hospitality, be slow to react, listen and pay attention. Just because you’re extremely loud does not mean you’re right sweetie calm down You definitely brought such an awful energy. I will return on the days you don’t work.

I recently ordered food for pick up through DoorDash from Tacos a go go and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. While eating my meal, I discovered a long hair tangled in the food, which was definitely not mine. This was extremely off-putting and completely ruined my appetite. I expect better hygiene standards from a restaurant, especially when ordering through a service like DoorDash. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their food handling practices to prevent such incidents in the future.

The restaurant is known for its homemade tortillas filled with a variety of tasty ingredients such as refried beans, potato, egg, chicharron, lengua, and al pastor. While they also offer quesadillas, fajitas, and tortas, it's their breakfast tacos that steal the show.
Visited this taco place a Sunday morning and it was pretty good. There was a bit lineup but moving quickly. Service was nice and friendly. Breakfast tacos were loaded and very tasty. Solid place to have a quick breakfast with reasonable price.

I see why this place is so popular. Cheap and delicious breakfast tacos. The chorizo was definitely my favorite, but everything we tried was perfect. Generally the clients and staff here speak Spanish, so it's helpful to speak and understand Spanish, but not required! There's a line, but it moves quickly. Parking is a bit tricky, but even with that the experience was smooth.

Great food! Love their breakfast tacos. There is a line in the morning (Saturday around 8:20am) but it moved very quickly. The food look great, you can see them preparing your tacos. They put enough meat, eggs are good fresh. Tacos can with flour tortillas, I think you ask for corn but I didn’t try. The ladies are very nice and welcoming! Bonus points for having a bucket of red and green salsa for us to grab.

Always a line here but it moves quick. Tacos are loaded with meat and full of flavor. I had the chorizo and egg and the potato and egg and both were great. Fast service and a solid spot if you’re in a rush.

About as authentic as it gets. They have an enormous selection of choices available. I got several egg and potato. The line is always out of the door. If people are willing to wait in Houston heat, that should tell you something. I wouldn’t call these my most favorite taco in Houston as I usually go for weirder, more fusion options (think tofu or veggie). But I will definitely keep returning to this spot.

There’s always a line when you come so be ready to wait, and wait to be called in. So far I’ve only tried what’s on the pictures I posted. Authentic flavors, warm hospitality, and a memorable dining experience! I recently dined at t Tarka Indian Cuisine, and it was truly one of the best Indian meals I’ve had here in the US. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home. We started with the chicken kabob salad and garlic nan– both were fresh and packed with flavor. For the main course, the chicken biryani and chicken korma were standouts – rich, perfectly spiced, and accompanied by soft naan and fragrant basmati rice. Prices are affordable and most importantly the toilets are clean. I bough space for parking. Highly recommended for anyone craving real Indian food with a generous side of hospitality. 3.5⭐️ ✅️ Great decor and location ✅️ Resonably priced and good value ✅️ Friendly staff and quick service ❗️Food was ok. It wasn't bad, it wasn't spectacular. The best way to describe it would compare it to buffet food at an Indian party/reception. ❗️Staff did not know dishes well and had to ask around for follow-up questions surrounding options For the casual Indian cuisine searcher, it's a good spot. For those looking for a savory/delectable option that is more authentic and packed with flavor.. not as much.

If you're on the hunt for a unique burger experience, look no further than Burger-chan, owned by the dynamic duo Diane and Willet Feng. Nestled in the bustling Galleria area, this counter-service gem is all about precision and creativity. Their signature OG Burger-Chan features two perfectly smashed patties infused with a delightful soy-butter umami glaze, nestled in a soft brioche bun alongside classic toppings like Thousand Island dressing, glazed onions, lettuce, and tomato.
Finally got around to trying one of the best burger spots in town. Turns out it’s even better than expected. I really like that they offer a variety of breads to choose from, so even if you come often, you won’t get bored. I love how customizable the burgers are. It really feels like you can build your own perfect burger. Their signature mayo is pretty unique too. It has a subtle hint of shrimp and fish sauce, which isn’t bad at all, but might not be for everyone. Overall, a really solid burger and reasonably priced.

If you're craving a burger that absolutely rocks, burger‑chan on Alabama St is your new go‑to. I went for the Spicy on a fluffy brioche bun, piled on extra ghost‑pepper flakes, and it was 🔥—juicy, punchy, and perfectly balanced by the buttery bun. I meant to order the Vietnamese coffee shake but ended up with a vanilla instead… still ridiculously good! I can’t wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu. This place has serious flavor chops and a fun, flexible chalk‑style ordering vibe. Highly recommended!
Ram K — Google review
This place has a really interesting system. I appreciated how clearly they explained their halal options the halal ingredients are handled completely separately and never come into contact with pork products. That level of care is impressive. The portions are large, and the fries were quite tasty. However, I found the flavor of the beef itself a bit underwhelming compared to the rest. The atmosphere is nice, and the place is clean and well kept.Overall, it’s a good spot with thoughtful service and a clear commitment to halal preparation.
Omer Y — Google review
Took a lunch break with my wife and she picked Burger Chan—first time for me, so why not! It’s located off W. Alabama near the Galleria. Didn’t grab any interior pics, but the ordering system is simple: you walk in, grab a small clipboard, and check off exactly how you want your burger built. I kept it straightforward—1 patty (5oz), bacon, pepper jack, brioche bun, and BBQ sauce. My wife ordered a 5oz single with bacon and lettuce, plus tots. She got the spicy tots—not sure if they offer a non-spicy version, I wasn’t paying that much attention. Now for the actual burger. The brioche bun was on another level—soft, buttery, and slightly toasted inside. The patty isn’t smash style and not super thick either—just a solid medium-thickness burger cooked perfectly medium, juicy and lightly seasoned. The bacon came in medium-thick pieces broken into smaller bits, and that was a big plus for me. Pepper jack and BBQ sauce pulled everything together. With all the customization options here, I’m definitely coming back. This burger easily ranks high on my favorites list.

The food was Bomb! The curly fries were good for some cheese sauce on the side and dipped them in and it was so good. The burger was delicious got a single 5oz with bacon. Delicious. Only complaint is the WAIT time. Mannn.. lines are long and then cook time is long before they call your number. Overall would definitely go back and recommend but if you can order ahead definitely do it or don’t go when you are sooo hungry that you can’t wait. But it was good! A must go! And I like the clip board order forms makes it so much easier when you get to the register
K M — Google review
This location is very busy despite having indoor seating and outdoor seating in the courtyard. It is located in a shopping complex with a bunch of cafes and restaurants near by - parking was a bit difficult but there is also street parking available. To order, they have clipboards with forms attached to which you can specify the condiments and sides and drinks of your liking. I like this organized method as there leaves little confusion when ordering and that prices are clear when ordering extra condiments. There milkshakes were tasty, unique flavors such as black sesame and Vietnamese coffee flavors. The small sizes are unfortunately smaller than average and for the price we are paying for the shakes, I believe the small size could have been bigger. Overall, great tasting burger - their jalapeno mild sauce was different, spicy, and delicious. Would definitely come back to try different toppings and flavors for my burger but the pricing is a bit high for one full meal.

Burger Chan has such a fun and welcoming vibe! They have both indoor and outdoor seating — perfect whether you want to hang out inside or enjoy the nice weather. The space is bright with playful wall art, and there’s even coloring available for kids, which makes it great for families too. The food is fantastic — their grilled chicken burger is big and packed with flavor, the curly fries are super crisp, and the sauces are seriously some of the best around. A great spot for a casual meal that hits all the right notes!

Great burger joint. Probably the best in the city. You can pick and choose the kind of burger or sandwiches- beef patties, grilled chicken, or felafel or hot dogs. Mexican restaurant
Tacos Doña Lena has successfully expanded to a larger location in the Timbergrove/Heights area while maintaining its charming family-owned taqueria vibe. The vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by colorful papel picado decorations and lively Spanish music, creating an inviting space for taco lovers. The extensive menu features a wide variety of tacos, including traditional options like fajita, pastor, barbacoa, and tripa, as well as delicious vegetarian choices such as nopalitos and calabacitas.
Doña Lena’s is a hidden gem! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and full of that homemade taste you can only get from recipes made with love. Every dish is seasoned perfectly and served hot, and you can tell they use quality, fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the staff treats you like family from the moment you walk in. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a regular, you always leave satisfied and happy. Definitely one of my favorite spots — highly recommend!

This was my second visit to the restaurant. During my first visit, I tried the enchiladas rojas, which were good, but not unique—similar dishes can be found at other restaurants. On my second visit, I came with my wife and daughters. One of my daughters ordered the enchiladas, but they were flavorless this time, and we paid extra for chicken, which was disappointing. I ordered the torta, and unfortunately, it was not good either. Additionally, the service was lacking.
NGAVI 1 — Google review
Food is great, and the service as well. No complaints in either department. The servers were very attentive and stopped by regularly. The only complaint is the alcohol price, I paid $11 for a pre made margarita, this is the large sizzle which is pretty much the same as the “small” which they both are small. Overall the food is good and service is good so I do recommend the place a ones, not drink though.
Mason W — Google review
Edited review: initially had given 2 stars due to waiting over 2 minutes for 2 simple breakfast tacos. But now that I’m no longer hangry, this place definitely deserves 5 stars for the tacos alone. I got two potato egg and cheese tacos, and as simple as they seem I was very impressed. The tacos are filled to the max. And the potatoes were perfectly crispy with some tiny crunchy pieces that gave it to much flavor. And the green salsa was the perfect level of spiciness to enjoy without overwhelming my American taste buds. Will definitely be back, and hopefully not have to wait as long! Original review: Giving two starts solely for the wait time for 2 potato egg and cheese tacos… 25 minutes!! Seriously unacceptable wait for such a simple order. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated and the tacos are good. But for this long of a wait for tacos?! Not sure I’ll be back.
Summer M — Google review
These are the best tacos in HTown great salsas too!. I had barbacoa and extra crispy tripitas....mmgood!! It was great atmosphere and the service was great. Promp and correct. Their pricing was fair. Like 5 or6 different types of salsas I started from the hottest one down. The only thing was not having ice for the water I mean near the water dispensers. Overall I loved it, I want to try their menudo next. Come on in you're going to love it!!

We were dying to eat good Mexicano Food, Doña Lena was and always is perfect. I can always come back and try something New in the menú. I do Love anything with Birria. The ramen can be split up in two, Just a thought, it was too big for one person...

The quesabirria and Bortka torta were amazing. I love that they have so many salsa options. If birria is not your cup of tea there are plenty of other options. Can't wait to go back!

Whether you're craving breakfast food in the morning or late-night comfort food like chopped steak and patty melts, House of Pies has got you covered.
Love this place. Been here countless times. Breakfast is always good. Service is attentive and friendly, and the pies of course are absolutely delicious. I enjoy the coconut cream pie and bayou goo, good milkshakes, and large drink glasses and I could go on for days.

Went during lunch time in the middle of the week. Service was a little slow but it was busy and the waitress did miss a few things that we had to ask for, but she was nice. Some good lunch specials for a good price with good portions. We got the carrot cake, coconut pie and pumpkin pie to go and they are all highly recommended.
Annie P — Google review
I like the food here, but the waitress only came by three times. The first was to take our order, the second time was to bring us our food, and the last time was to make sure we were still doing fine, but we didnt need her anymore at that time. I need her to come before the last visit so I can ask for a box to take my food home so I ended up giving the rest to my boyfriend to finish.
Bartlet N — Google review
It was busy but the service was still good. The waitress was still able to check on us a couple times. My drink never went past half a cup before it was filled again. Very friendly and family friendly environment.

My favorite location, a reason it’s been around since 1961. You can’t ever go wrong with a good breakfast at House of Pies but my favorite for so long has been the hot grilled chicken salad with the ranch dressing the grilled vegetables give it an amazing taste!

Pizza is very nice. Delicious pies with One on it. Pretty good prices for a downtown establishment. The atmosphere leaves a little wanting for more, but they make up with great pizza and great beer. And the service was very nice. Five stars.

*21 September 2025* Visiting from Atlanta. This place is just okay. We ordered the pizza and wings. Nothing mind-blowing about either. I've had better quality pizza and wings elsewhere. We came here around 2 in the morning on Sunday. The line was wrapped down the street. But I will say, this place is satisfying if you've been out drinking all night and need something to nosh on before heading back home. That seemed to be the case when my friend and I went.
Anishka F — Google review
Dare I say it... Best pizza in the Houston area? It's probably at least the closest most authentic version of a New York slice anywhere in the area. The environment also totally has the feel of an authentic New York pie shop. The crust especially stood out as being delicious, it must be the Houston tap water. I will definitely be coming back soon absolutely perfect.

I was looking forward to enjoying some pizza. 👎 While the pizza was affordable and hot, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The texture reminded me of what you’d find at a skating rink—soft and soggy. Overall it was not worth the drive or the parking.

The menu includes the Chi-town dog, featuring a locally sourced hot dog on a high-quality poppy seed bun, topped with in-house condiments like dill pickles, pickled fresno chilis, sweet relish, and mustard.
Amazing Hot Dogs. I haven't had a good dog since I moved from Chicago many years ago. They are full of flavor and leaves you satisfied. The onion rings are also great. Definitely coming back for more and recommend you try this place.

Growing up there used to be more Hotdog vendors …. Easily the best Hotdog place in HTX atm Chicken Parm sandwich- AWESOME RODEO Dog- AWESOME Corn dog- well it’s a corn dog but if you get chili to eat it with game changer. Well we liked the combo.
RM C — Google review
This was my first time trying this place, and I really loved it! The vibe is very casual and laid back. Very charming inside, as well. The employees were very nice. Menu has lots of fun options. I had the Picnic Dog, which was delicious. I tried my friends Chicago Dog and that one was a bit sweet for me. I took off the sweet pickles and that instantly made it better (to me). The onion rings and chips were really great. One of the stars of the show was the sauce that came with the onion rings. I’m not even sure if it was ranch or French onion dip, but it could easily be bottled up and sold. So good. I can’t wait to go back and try other dogs, and I’d highly recommend this place to others!
Robert J — Google review
Just the cutest place- beautifully decorated out back, in front and inside. Almost $20 for hotdog, fries, and drink – – and the Coca-Cola machine was out of order. The curry dog didn’t even have a taste of curry. Parking lot is not good for larger vehicles- as is much of the Heights area. Hot spot— go for cool points.
Auda G — Google review
Cool little neighborhood spot for a creative, fun hot dog adventure! Even if you like a more traditional, classic dog - they got you covered. Pops got the New York and I got the Texican. We also got an order of the Onion Rings and they were ENORMOUS! Good food, good location and friendly staff. We enjoyed it.

A good quick bite or casual lunch in The Heights. I’ve only had good quality food and experiences here. Fries are cut and made fresh which I really like. I think it’s worth paying the upgrade for an all-beef dog. Good Dog Houston has both an indoor and outdoor setting and is very family friendly. I’ve also seen pets there but usually outside. This is a safe go-to whenever you’re looking for a reasonably priced meal. Get the apple juice!
Ronald B — Google review
Delicious hot dogs. Extensive menu and friendly staff. Everything I got was delicious and can't wait to go back. Both indoor and outdoor areas. 2 outdoor patios that are dog friendly as shown in pics. They brought out water and a treat for my guy here. Hot dogs were bursting with flavor yet not too much to were you feel nasty after. Small parking lot though but I did see 1 cat.

My second time here. I brought my wife. We ordered the texas dog and bratwurst. Both came with chips. We also ordered some mac and cheese and two drinks. The food came fresh and hot. The staff was friendly and helpful. We couldn't finish everything so we took the left overs to go. Food quality is very good and fresh. The menu is very diverse (not just hot dogs). Lots of good side options and a good selection of beers.

The menu features options like Mamma Mia with diced chicken, Las Pampas with ground beef, and Tuna Luna with tuna.
Great experience! We found this place while visiting the area and we're amazed at the level of customer service and quality at the price. Very reasonable price and we were all very happy with the flavor of service. We also ordered dessert and happy we did. We consider ourselves foodies and this was easily, the best food we have in the area. You will not be disappointed if you give it a try. If you found this review helpful please give a 👍

We used to go to your location in Katy, however, it closed down over the last couple years. So now we've had the honour of attending your first location. Location. You have so many delicious options. Go wrong with any of them, we chose three empanadas and it comes with fries and a sweet little mini dessert. We added teas to the mix and it was the perfect amount of food. I can't remember what they were called unfortunately. What I would say is that everything is absolutely homemade in house, the chimichurri is phenomenal, the outside of the empanadas is perfectly crispy but, because they are homemade and made to order, they are very hot. Very hot. You may want to crack them open and let them sit on the plate for 2 to 3 minutes before you actually bite in. Or you may burn your mouth the same way I did on the first bite...... I'm a fast learner LOL so instead I indulged in their curly wedge whole fries which I thought were delicious. But the one thing I would say is if you're looking for crispy french fries, you may have to request that. I'm not sure if it's a normal thing, but they were a little less fried than the normal American style french fry. And being that there Argentina that might be the general style. I'm just not really sure. Next time I will ask them to double fry mine 😁 but I would highly recommend it, they also have sandwiches and solids along with a take-home bakery option which look Divine. Divine. Will actually be taking my father-in-law here sometime this week. That's how much we have enjoyed it. He's coming in from out of town and we know he'll enjoy it too. All of the service personnel were friendly, informational and quick which was also wonderful. I'm not sure if it's a family-ran business or not, but nonetheless, everyone seems to enjoy the atmosphere and make it a pleasant experience to come into. No rushing No Disingenuousness, and the atmosphere is cute, kind of funky, and if you want, you can even leave your own mark on the place 🫴

Juicy flavorful empanandas! Chimichurri sauce is amazing! The habonero hot sauce is rather hot. Nice casual atmosphere too. I wished I lived near this place. But if you're staying at the nearby Marriott, give this place a visit! You won't be disappointed!

Tried the two recommended traditional savory flavors. Very happy I did. Ordering sweet empanadas for dessert tonight. The guava empanada was fabulous! The fruit fillings were not too sweet and had a very bright flavor.

Tucked away on Westheimer is Marino's. This charming restaurant specialises in Enpanadas, a food native to South America. Three is a super wide range to choose from, see the menu in my pictures. I recommend the Chuck Wagon which was full of meat and mushrooms and very tasty. The cheese and ham was good too. There is a selection of beers to drink as well as the usual soft drinks.

Great food and service. Order TO-Go. The Linda’s chicken was my favorite. Affordable and have drinks to go.

I ordered 15 empanadas and 8 of them were to go. I also ordered a bottle of chimichurri which they packed along the sweet empanadas. the cap on the bottle was not closed well and ended up spilling over the sweet empanadas. They shouldn’t be packing the sauce together with the food, just to save an extra bag. Terrible to-go experience. Tried calling them and they have a recording saying phones are out of service.

Paulie's is a laid-back Italian cafe and espresso bar owned by Paul Petronella, offering a variety of housemade pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, and Panini. The wine list is designed to be user-friendly and the staff is knowledgeable and ready to assist. In addition to the food menu, there are also sweet treats like cookies, brownies, bread pudding, and pie available for dessert.
Absolutely one of, if not the absolute best Italian restaurants in Houston. We stopped in on a Tuesday night after seeing great reviews online for Paulie's. Upon arrival, there is a private parking lot behind the restaurant that was easy and convenient to park in. When we walked inside the restaurant, we took note of the pleasant and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is counter-service style and very convenient to order and find a table. The menu is wonderful with plenty of selections without being overwhelming. We ordered vegetable soup, pesto pasta with chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, and Canestri and Broccoli (shells with oil/garlic/parmesean, and broccoli with chicken). We also ordered iced tea and ginger lemonade as well. The ginger lemonade and iced tea was very good, fresh, and not too sweet. The vegetable soup was rustic, homemade, and had an amazing broth. The soup was full of thick cut veggies (carrots, celery, potatoes, red peppers, corn, and green beans). This was one of the absolute best veggie soups I've ever had, and $7 for a large bowl is a great value. The spaghetti and meatballs was VERY good. The sauce is a homemade San Marzano tomato sauce. Very rich flavor without too much acidity. The meatballs were moist, tender, flavorful, and not overly spiced. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The pesto was extremely fresh and bright with very clean and light flavors and a delicious olive oil base. The kalamata olives were a very nice touch, and the grilled chicken was cooked to perfectly. Nice crispy pan seared outside and so moist and tender inside. Again, the pasta was cooked perfectly. The Canestri and Brocccoli (shells with olive oil/parmesean/garlic with broccoli and chicken) was absolutely out of this world. One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had in my life. Dripping with flavor without being too heavy. Again, the pasta and chicken were both cooked perfectly. The meals came with garlic bread, which was very nice. Not overwhelming with garlic and cooked perfectly. Such a nice compliment to the meals. We finished up with a mocha latte and some of their homemade Easter shortbread cookies. Excellent latte, with beautiful flavor and not too sweet. The shortbread Easter cookies were absolutely incredible. Mindblowingly good how buttery and tasty these are. The price for dinner 3 people without alcohol was around $77 and another $12 for the coffee and cookies (all not counting tip). Overall, this is truly a hidden gem of Houston. If you want REALLY good Italian food at a VERY good price, and in the greater Houston area, this is the #1 place to go, period.

Service was great! Quick serve. $13 for pasta and 2 pieces of bread. Qty was ok. Tasty pasta. No good on toasted bread. We will visit again.
Andy D — Google review
3.5 Pasta was fresh and perfectly tender. Pasta portion with chicken picatta seemed small compared to other dishes, but flavor was excellent. Also there was no bread nor parmesan available. There were also too many orders being taken at once resulting in groups of people just hovering around tables, waiting to grab a seat.

A Houston iconic restaurant that has been here for 27 years as they open back in 1998 but set to close at the end of December 2025, so visit they one more time before it is too late. They are known for their home made pasta and other Italian food and a great wine list and the cookies. You order at the counter, then find your table, and when your food is ready your pager will go off and you get your food at the pick up food area. Discovered this jewel near our house in Houston, TX. The place is literally a hole in the wall, but greatness awaits beyond that wall!!! My family enjoyed the original selection of sodas, the burgers are incredibly crafted, and honor their names on the menu! The loaded fries are AMAZING, and the service was kind and fast! Overall, it is a great place to enjoy a good, filling, full of flavor, juicy burger!

We are long time fans of the Hubcap Grill. It has a justified reputation for innovative and delicious burgers. I usually get the Sticky Burger, that has peanut butter, and add extra pickles to balance the sweetness. This time, I opted for the tamale burger because it is seasonal. And: tamales. . The fries were just how I love them. I go for the extra crispy fries as dessert. . Service was prompt and the food came out faster than expected. It was a great day to enjoy the patio too.

Great neighborhood spot for a local burger. The menu is extensive in their variety of burger creations and fry add ons. I would put them in the top 5 burgers in Houston. Covid has the inside shut down, but they have covered outdoor seating with plenty of picnic tables to spread out or sit together.

Hughie's is a laid-back spot known for its selection of craft beers and a diverse menu featuring burgers, Vietnamese sandwiches, and other entrees. Located in the Lazybrook/Timbergrove area, this Houston gem offers a fusion of Southern and Vietnamese cuisine. While they previously faced some challenges with their bread choice, they have since improved by using a more suitable roll. The restaurant provides efficient service even during busy times, with friendly staff who cater to patrons at the bar.
Hughie’s is one of those places that just makes you happy. Their chicken fried steak is my absolute favorite—crispy, tender, and full of flavor. I never thought I’d rave about kale, but theirs is seriously so good. The shaking chicken and beef have so much flavor and just the right kick of spice. You can really tell everything’s made with love. The staff is always so kind and welcoming.

My Hubby's favorite place to eat😂. Food is great I always get my usual fried wonton, skaken chix vermicelli and THAI TEA🤤. He loves his sweet chili wings and more adventurous on his meal than me. But his go to same as mine and he really likes the fried rice with crawfish and something else. Its only available on certain days but he really liked it😂. We highly recommend Hughie's!!

Luigi's Pizzeria in Midtown is a local favorite for its authentic New York-style pizzas, cooked to perfection in a coal-fired oven using the finest and freshest ingredients. The menu also features delectable pasta, sandwiches, and gelato. This old-fashioned Italian pizzeria offers a cozy atmosphere perfect for families, serving up garlicky breadsticks, hot sandwiches, crispy calzones, and traditional Italian desserts.
Stopped by Luigi’s Pizzeria in Midtown for lunch and grabbed their supreme calzone—only $10, what a steal! It was super fresh, stuffed to the brim with all the supreme fixings (pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese). The crust was perfectly crispy, and the flavors were on point. Great value and a lively atmosphere. Definitely coming back for more!

Luigi’s Pizzeria offers a cozy, comforting environment to grab a diverse array of Italian treats. Customer service was good, and staff whipped up our order quite fast. In terms of the actual pizza and salad though, the experience felt a bit lackluster. I tried the Philly Cheesesteak with a Baby Luigi’s salad. They both lacked real flavor until we doused them in red chilly flakes and parmesan cheese and even then, they both seemed like overpriced items for the experience we had. I’m curious to go back and try different toppings to see if that would make a difference, since the sauce and crust were quite good.

When you pull up you are met with a cool mural on the side of the building. One kf the main draws to this pizza spot is that it connects to Axelrad beer garden through a patio door. The interior dining space is limited but a great vibe. The outdoor patio has plenty of seating to accomodate anyone stopping in or passing through after a few drinks. The service was pretty solid, the staff were friendly. I would say that the pizza is overpriced for how it tastes. The pizza came out and looked great but tasted average. For less money for 2 slices, you'd get much better flavor and more interior seating elbow room at Frank's Pizza. The fountain soda taste pretty good. Overall the meal was a B level but the price brought it down slightly to about C+. If you had a few drinks in you, I am certain this pizza would be heavenlyz but completely sober I'd have to say it pleases the eyes more than the mouth.

Recently ordered some pizzas for a birthday party. Pizza slicing was done without care. Guests also thought pizza was stale even though we picked it up right on time. Special instructions completely ignored. Very disappointed, they normally are great but guests were not impressed.
Builly B — Google review
This place used to be great. Spent over $50 for 2 pizzas. Neither of which were great, but the larger one was nothing more than a frozen bad grocery store pizza. No flavor whatsoever - couldn’t even finish it. Felt like a prime example of wasting money which is a cardinal sin in these days. I remember the pico de gallo topping being amazing and vibrant - this go round it was so skimpy hardly any diced tomatoes or onions and just few super spicy, poorly chopped jalapeños. Dough tasted bland as well. I’m just upset having spent this and barely enjoyed it.
April J — Google review
I got food poisoning from eating the meats pizza (one on the left). I ate about half of it and started feeling nauseous so I threw the slice out. In the early morning I woke up multiple times so sick, body aching and puking with a low fever. I’ve been bed ridden all day.
Kay K — Google review
Plenty of different types of pizza to choose from. The brisket pizza was surprisingly good. Hawaiian pizza is my favorite.
Crystal — Google review
I came here for the first time on a Friday night. I tried 3 of their specialty slices. My total was around 24 bucks or so. My favorite slice was the buffalo chicken. I’d get a whole pie of that. The bbq brisket to me was just ok. The Philly was good but could’ve used more meat. Next time I want to try the fajita slice with steak and chicken. I typically am a cheese slice kind of guy, but I wanted to see what they had to offer. It is a small place if you plan to dine in. I’m not pressed to go back, but I’m sure I will try again at some point. I’d encourage everyone to give it a try if you haven’t!

Ramen restaurant
Izakaya restaurant
Tiger Den is a popular spot in Houston's Chinatown, offering a Japanese izakaya-like setting where you can enjoy savory bowls of housemade ramen and items from the robata grill. The restaurant has gained recognition as one of the city's first ramen shops. Additionally, its sister restaurant, Ishin Udon, provides traditional udon dishes and Japanese-Italian fusion options. Despite being an unsung hero for some time, it has gradually gained attention.
Really enjoyed happy hour (everyday 5-7p). You order ramen and get half off a starter! Enjoyed spicy cucumber and Brussels sprouts (10/10). Spicy is really mild. The spicy miso ramen wasn't spicy and I got the Tantan-men ramen, and it was good! During happy hour drinks are also half off! The staff was very attentive and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I will definitely be back again! Thank you for a great date night.

Heard good reviews here so decided to stop by for dinner. My partner and I were quickly seated as it wasn't packed on a Thursday night. There was lots of seating even tables for large groups, booth, and single. The staff were super nice and friendly. For starters we order the lamb and mushroom Yakitori along with the spicy cucumber. The spicy cucumber were nice and refreshing yet had a nice kick to them so I definitely recommend. As for the Yakitori, I say pass on those as the lamb were too chewy and salty and mushroom were too charred to where that's all you could taste. For main, I ordered the Spicy Miso and my partner got the Garlic Black Bean. The Spicy Miso was flavorful, creamy, had a little kick to it, and the ramen noodles were chewy and perfectly cooked. As for the Garlic Black Bean though it was nice, it tasted kind bland and wished it had a little for of the garlic flavor. Overall, good place though some menu items were a miss but I definitely recommend the spicy cucumber and spicy miso ramen.

Ramen is always so delicious here! My family and I come on a monthly basis. The broth is always super rich and flavorful. The service is top notch. Sometimes, there is a wait but it is well worth it. Definitely give this place a try.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 Recommend! The food here is absolutely amazing — the ramen is flavorful and comforting, and everything I tried was delicious. The service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Just a heads-up: the place is on the smaller side, so if it gets busy, you might have to wait a bit for a table. But honestly, it’s totally worth it. Great vibes, great food, great experience all around!

This place only opens after 5 PM. Happy hour runs from 5–7 PM, Tuesday to Sunday, with 50% off beer. If you order ramen, appetizers are also 50% off. The brussels sprouts are really good, and the grilled enoki mushrooms are smoky and tasty. The veggie ramen and spicy miso are also worth trying. Overall, a solid ramen spot in Chinatown.

✨Ramen Night Out ✨ After a long, productive day, I decided to treat myself to a cozy dinner — and this ramen spot did not disappoint! 🌟 The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food came out quickly and fresh. • The ramen was perfectly flavorful with a rich, savory broth and fresh toppings. 🍜 • Gyoza was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — especially good with the dipping sauce. 🥟 • The grilled skewers were tender, smoky, and sprinkled with sesame seeds for extra flavor. • And the fried squid? Crispy, light, and so addictive! 🐙 The best part? The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. 💛 It’s definitely a place worth checking out if you’re craving a comforting bowl of ramen and tasty side dishes without breaking the bank. 📍 Highly recommend for a casual night out or a chill dinner spot! #RamenLovers #HoustonEats #FoodieLife #CozyDinner #GoodVibesOnly

ehhh, ill will revisit this place and my thoughts on it. from what i remember back in 2023, the ramen itself is pretty not good update: i did revisited this place. the ramen itself is average at best but the great customer service did warrant a raise three stars up. as for the noodles being clumped together, you can spread them out if you’re getting used to instant noodles like buldak. the broth is salty—but not overly salty that burns my tongue; instead you get the sense of salt.

Deli
European restaurant
Ekko's Greek American Deli is a cozy spot located inside a Valero gas station in Galleria, Houston. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior is adorned with bright blue walls that transport you to the Mediterranean. The menu features a variety of Greek delights such as gyros, sandwiches, souvlaki, hummus, and baklava. Customers line up for their beef souvlaki kebabs served with warm pita and generous salads with flavorful dressings.
I have to say WOW it’s a must try! Don’t let the fact that it’s inside a gas station fool you. Yes it’s small and seating is limited but I have to say my food was delicious. They gyro meat was crispy to perfection, side Greek salad was fresh. Tzatziki and Hummus added a lot of flavor. I will definitely be coming back to try out more menu items. Give it a shoot.
Mando — Google review
This is one of those hidden gems inside a gas station. The two items I've had so far were good and for a reasonable price. Food taste fresh and seasoned just right. Young lady at the register is very nice and accommodating. I've been back twice since my initial visit. Give it a try if you are looking for a good, reasonably priced lunch.
PAHL — Google review
Located on the side of a gas station and inside its small store, this place is a true "hole in the wall." The decor outside is almost nonexistent, and it’s clear the passion goes into the food, not the furniture. This place is a hidden gem. The falafel sandwich was fantastic, crispy outside, moist and flavorful inside. And the gyro is the real star: tender, well-seasoned meat with a great tzatziki on the side. The food is cooked with care and passion, and the prices are more than fair. It's not for a fancy night out; it's for when you want excellent food that feels homemade and doesn't break the bank. I'm so sorry, I don't have another picture to share. The food smelled and looked so good, I just ate it without thinking.

Dare I say it’s the best Gas Station Greek Food I’ve ever had? Pretty close to the best (in the US) period. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Pita was remarkable. Gyro meat tender, juicy, well seasoned and flavorful. Greek potatoes very good. I’m imaging the fries would have been out of this world but I exercised a bit of restraint.

I've been hearing a lot about this place from friends and colleagues, so I decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly and professional. That seems to be a staple of Houston restaurants in my experience. The decor and seating is an open concept with reservation options. The food is lightly to non-seasoned. You will need the salt, pepper and hot sauce to make it taste decent. Now, the dessert? Somebody stole my grandmother's cake recipe and made the cake because it was top notch! If you're looking for great tasting regular food, this might not be the place for you. If you're looking for a great piece of cake, definitely stop in!

So we ordered our food at a counter and they ask for a tip right away before any service or food has been rendered. I had the seafood gumbo and my wife had the shrimp and grits. The seafood was not the best quality. Portions were small and none of the food was spicy. I had to add salt and pepper and hot sauce to everything. I never received the biscuits we ordered. I had to go back up to the counter for a refund because you don't get a proper waiter here despite paying a gratuity up front. Prices were high, we paid $64 for lunch for two people. I would not return to this place. Sorry

It had been years since I visited. A friend of mine was not sure if she had been there. The employees are very friendly and courteous. I was ready to taste the wonderful food. She on the other hand has a sweet tooth. We talked for hours without interruption. We felt at ease enjoying our snack. The baklava cheese cake is like people say " It's to die for". The portions are generous. Every person we encountered was so friendly. Free easy parking and clean bathroom. I will definitely return!!!!! I have two picky items that I must mention. 1) kitchen staff should NOT go into the bathroom With apron on -ewwww🤮 2) the tzatziki sauce was bland- but the garlic aioli made up for it

Nastiest food I’ve ever eaten. Chewy and nasty steak. I was so excited to try this place but very disappointed experience. Service was not all that. I had been to Torchy’s before but it had been well over 5 years. I don’t remember the taste that well but I know all the food was good. Plus they were highly recommended by family and friends. We ordered, trailer park extra trashy, fiesta steak and a democrat taco. Along with chips & queso, kids quesadilla and street corn. Trailer park was ok at best. The way people were recommending it left and right was nowhere to be found. The taco was ok - 5/10. The rest of the two were good enough to make the entire experience worthwhile. Chips & queso and the street corn were the stars of the show. They were mind boggingly delicious. When I visit next time, that’s all I’d probably get. Regardless of the underperforming food as a whole, I give it 4 stars because of the service. The lady was nice enough to give us free tacos for next time.

Bodegas delivered the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! Every bite was bursting with flavor, and the quality was top-notch. From the perfectly seasoned meats to the fresh, vibrant salsas, everything was spot on. The atmosphere was lively, the service was fantastic, and the drinks and dessert were just as good as the food. Can’t wait to go back!

I really think this restaurant is faking its top reviews. Tortillas are not fresh, you can taste the preservatives. Same with the cheese. It’s covered in the same dust as shredded cheese you get from the grocery store. The beef fajita meat was very tough, had bad texture, and no flavor. Try a different restaurant in the area instead. Worse than chuy’s, worse than gringo’s, worse than taco cabana. HEB sells 20 fresh tortillas for like $5, there’s no reason for a taco restaurant to not be using fresh tortillas. Gas station quality, downtown price. Staff were friendly, atmosphere was fine. My wife got the fish tacos and said the only thing good was the Coke Zero.
AJ J — Google review
The burrito I had was good and huge, maybe a little less flavorful than I was hoping. They put a good amount of meat in it though. Was not a fan of the tres leches cake. It was very thin, no milk on the bottom and way too much cinnamon. Prices were fair. The atmosphere and set up was very nice

A Day of Dinos and Decibels, Fueled by Bodegas A truly epic Houston day, one that spans from the prehistoric wonders of the Houston Museum of Natural Science to the thundering riffs of a Metallica concert, requires strategic and satisfying sustenance. Bodegas Taco Shop, conveniently nestled in the Museum District, proved to be the perfect fuel for our adventure. Stepping out of the museum and into the early evening, the casual and lively atmosphere of Bodegas was a welcome transition. With the promise of a high-energy concert ahead, we opted for a mix of fresh and flavorful tacos to power us through the night. The grilled chicken tacos were a solid choice. The chicken was tender and juicy, with a nice char-grilled flavor that paired well with the fresh toppings. Each bite was a straightforward and satisfying taste of a classic done right. The standout, however, was the fish tacos. Lightly battered and perfectly flaky, the fish was complemented by a crisp slaw and a creamy sauce that provided a refreshing contrast. They were a flavorful and surprisingly light option that didn't weigh us down before an evening of standing and cheering. Bodegas Taco Shop delivered exactly what we needed: delicious, quick, and energizing food in a prime location. It was the ideal pit stop in a day filled with Houston's finest offerings, from ancient fossils to modern metal legends. If you find yourself in the Museum District with a hunger to satisfy, Bodegas is a reliable and tasty choice.

Nice setup as far as the atmosphere but that is about all. The food is over priced, overcooked and it all comes straight out of a bag from the frozen food section from grocer supply or sysco. The rice had no flavor or seasoning just added corn to give it the presentation it needed to look appetizing but it was completely BLAND anlong with the beans and salsa. Also the chicken strips were ($13 )HARD DRY & extremely over cooked and the portion size was off...along with the flautas which were EXTRA CRIPSY & the chicken on the ends from the flautas was also burnt..but they still sent it off the line to serve to the customer. The only items that were actually good at this restaurant was the house RANCH & GUACAMOLE BOTH WERE AMAZING 👏 😋

Central Market is a vibrant hub for food lovers, offering an impressive selection of gourmet vegetables, meats, and wines. This expansive space also features an inviting in-house café where visitors can enjoy delicious bites while soaking in the lively atmosphere filled with food events and live music. Recognized by Bon Appétit as one of the top regional supermarket chains, it’s a favorite among Houstonians who appreciate quality ingredients and community connections.
Absolutely love everything about Central Market! Visiting during weekend lunchtime always feels like an adventure—there’s so much to explore. The food is consistently fresh, the staff is friendly, and the store is always clean and well-maintained. The cafeteria seating area could benefit from a bit more attention during peak hours, but with the constant flow of guests, it’s understandable and still well-managed overall. From the expansive salad bar and comforting soup options to the cozy coffee shop, sushi bar, vibrant floral selections, and a wide variety of freshly cooked meals—there’s something for everyone. Our favorite, though, is the incredible sandwich bar, offering delicious choices for all ages. The overall atmosphere is warm and inviting. I just wish there were more locations nearby! The only downside we’ve experienced is the sandwich line on weekends—it can get quite long, sometimes taking up to 30 minutes despite having plenty of staff. Hopefully, they’ll find a way to improve the flow, but even with the wait, it’s well worth it.

Central Market: A Culinary Adventure Worth the Premium Central Market is truly a destination that elevates grocery shopping from a chore into a delightful culinary adventure. The store is laid out in a fascinating, winding route—much like an IKEA showroom—which encourages exploration and ensures you discover every specialty section. The journey begins in the vibrant Produce and Fruit section, where quality is clearly the top priority. It's always a treat to find ample free samples available on many days, giving you a taste of seasonal offerings. Moving into the interior, Central Market boasts one of the most comprehensive seafood and meat selections available anywhere, perfect for serious cooks or those looking for a special-occasion cut. Specialty and Prepared Foods The store excels in its specialty departments. The wine selection is vast, complemented by a thoughtful array of craft and rare beers that are often hard to source elsewhere. The bulk area is a treasure trove, featuring a wide variety of high-quality nuts, candies, spices, and freshly roasted coffee, all sold by the pound. Don't skip the cheese counter or the bakery; they offer an impressive selection of artisanal cheeses and some of the best fresh-baked bread imaginable. The final stretch of the route leads to the restaurant and prepared meal section, which offers a tremendous variety of main dishes and sides, conveniently sold by weight. This area alone makes it an ideal stop for a quick lunch or dinner when you don't have time to cook. Logistics and Value While you certainly pay a little extra for this premium experience and the quality you receive, it undeniably makes grocery shopping fun. The one consistent challenge is the parking lot: it is large, but almost always completely full, so be prepared to hunt for a spot! Overall, Central Market provides a unique, high-quality, and enjoyable shopping environment that is well worth the occasional splurge.

Big thanks to Elham at Central Market for helping me find the chicken salad today — the section had been reorganized, and she was so sweet, helpful, and kind the entire time! I also want to shout out Miriam , Corina, and Valeria at checkout, who was just as lovely and made the whole experience even better. I had a meeting to get to and was hoping to be in and out quickly — and thanks to their help, I was out in under 7 minutes. They were positive, attentive, and made me feel genuinely cared for. It didn’t feel like I was bothering them at all — just great customer service from start to finish. This might’ve been my first visit to this location (hard to keep track with how many Central Markets I’ve been to!), but it’s definitely the one I’ll return to. The energy, care, and support were unmatched. Amazing team — keep up the great work!

**Central Market Cafe** I didn’t grocery shop, only used the CAFE. It’s a maze, kind of reminds me of IKEA. The coffee was amazing, ordering was quick and easy. I ordered an iced vanilla latte. Staff were polite and baked goods smelled delicious.

Clean, well organized, variety of goods to choose from, good prices, exclusive in Texas, can’t think of something more special than this! Makes my grocery run fun than ever! They even have fresh truffle and huge collection of mushrooms by which I’m impressed.

We came here for one thing and we got that one thing, a delicious and filling sandwich. Endless options and menu chef selections! Customizable from the bread, sauces, protein, veggies, and heat options. Pass the salad or pickle bar grab something from the many options available or even getting a drink with multiple options to choose from the fountain or drink display

The taproom features Astros baseball team memorabilia and offers a variety of unique beers like Rocket Fuel, BrewGK, and the hemped up Wonder Water Herbal Seltzer line.
My son drug me here, really glad he did, great beer, food and atmosphere. The only thing i'd do different would be have more food trucks on site, the 3 that were there the day we went were very good. We shared a plate of slab fries...waffle cut...with lots of toppings, and a Cuban sammy done right from Eatsie Boys. We shared a half pound of tender delectable pork ribs and a half pound of moist end brisket that was very tender, lots of flavor and nice bark, made by Buck's BBQ. You can sample the beers they have on tap, when you have great product like they do, free samples will sell it. I enjoyed a coffee beer concoction that was very nice, my son had another great beer which i'd sampled too, it's name shall remain nameless 'cause I can't remember....I'm not much of a beer guy but places like this may change that.

Pretty rad spot to hang out for a quick beer and a bite - they’ve got food trucks all the time it seems. It’s in a very central location and the surrounding area is very walkable with a decent amount of stuff to see. The beer was solid and there was quite a bit of outdoor activities available at the time too - great for families with kids.

Very cool interior with a chill outdoor area. They’ve got games around the brewery and drinks are fantastic. If you go out the back, there’s plenty of seating and cool spots to take some photos. Love the sculptures and the We Love Houston sign. Now for my standard comments. Interior is kept clean and seating is comfortable. Outdoor seating is pretty big as well.

Great beer selection and they hesitate to let you sample some beers until you find the perfect one to commit to! They had a food truck on site and air conditioning inside! Lots of memorabilia to make it a fun atmosphere. Great walking distance to other spots in Eado (East of Downtown). Also very close to the “we love houston” sign for pictures!! Parking was done through city app, very affordable and easy to extend your time if needed.

El Big Bad is a bi-level bar and cantina located in downtown Houston's Market Square. The vibrant setting features murals and a 2,000-square-foot balcony with an ultra-grammable 'Love You and Tacos So Much' sign. Guests can take the elevator or winding stairs to the upper level, where they can enjoy umbrella-covered tables while sipping on unique margaritas like pineapple and hibiscus or cranberry and churro-infused options.
Was in town for a brief business trip and stopped in for a quick bite. Although I was in a Tex-Mex restaurant and bar, I was in the mood for a burger. I was not disappointed! I ordered the cheeseburger medium and it was the perfect blend of juicy and savory. Chelsea Anna made an amazing Spicy Mezcal Margarita. Do yourself a favor and stop in.
Sergio M — Google review
My partner and I stopped by Sunday night on a whim. I loved every minute of dining at El Big Bad! The food was amazing and it was evident everything was prepared fresh with quality ingredients. We got the chips and queso, burger with fries and pollo asado tacos with rice and beans. This place easily has the best queso I have ever had. We also got a few drinks starting with the strawberry infused tequila margaritas. They have a plethora of infused tequilas; something around 30+ if I remember correctly.. Naturally we tried the tequila flight which comes with 3 infused tequila shots to try. They were all great except the key lime which we both agreed was not our favorite. The REAL TREAT was the bartender John. His wittiness and attention to detail is unmatched! He had plenty of suggestions and constantly made sure everything met our expectations. Also compliments to the chef because he did his thing! I Can’t wait for us to visit again.
Brianna D — Google review
My new favorite haunt 🥂. Stumbled in here after checking out a few other ‘highly rated’ bars and I like it so much I couldn’t leave. Highly recommend hitting up John on either Friday or Saturday nights to get some absolutely delicious infused cocktails. What I absolutely love: the cocktails aren’t sugary sweet, and ARE perfectly balanced. Other bars add a lot of sweetener and artificial flavors, but you can tell these guys don’t take shortcuts. Def ask them about their infusions! There’s an impressive collection and constantly rotation selections. The drink AND food menu are FIRE 🔥. The patio is perfect on a breezy late summer evening. A few things I didn’t love: their ambiance. The building is old and ventilation clearly struggles. The couches upstairs are beat up and dated. The sound system upstairs was loud in all the wrong ways and makes the patio space uncomfortably loud. Ordering via barcode feels disenchanting — I crave the interaction and banter. Overall, it’s my new favorite place for drinks and food. Can’t wait to try the Strawberry Basil Marg!
Vivi — Google review
Amazing themed place, only missing enough crowd. Maybe it was due to the late time of the day, but the exterior facade is just historic New Orleans style. Also, the guy at the upper bar was very friendly & attentive. The Chips & Queso were just the right crisp & thickness. I wish some of the expensive restaurants I have been to lately serve the same chips rather than their hard-to-chew ones. The burger was almost the perfect Tex-Mex Burger I have been looking for, for a while now. But truly, it wasn't bad at all. The crispy Baha Fish Taco was also crispy & fluffy. The sauce & garnish were just right. Finally, the balcony was looovely. I can't imagine how it looks & feel around Christmas time. 🎄🎅

Pretty cool 3 story place with outdoor seating as well. Strong but good margarita. Had a really good burrito and definitely recommend. Whole place has a cool vibe to it. Definitely coming back to try more food soon. Parking can be as it is typical of downtown but shouldn't be too bad.

This experience was a strong 4 stars, mostly based on my food & drink and the atmosphere. We were a party of 4 that went in at around 5pm on a Saturday. These days, you seat yourself & order through an app. If you are not an iPhone user, you have to download the app which I found very annoying. Two of our party ordered carne asada tacos, one ordered a ground beef burrito, & I ordered the chicken enchiladas. The carne asada tacos were ok but had way too many raw onions. The burrito was entirely eaten so must have been good. My chicken enchiladas were absolutely delicious. The thick green tangy sauce was lick the plate good & the Spanish rice was excellent too. The refried beans had good texture but were a little bland. I ordered the pumpkin infused margarita with a sugar rim. It was perfect. Not too sweet and absolutely delicious! The music was very loud & clubby for 5pm. We have not been to El Big Bad in awhile. The food & margaritas are still excellent but we were not a fan of the changes to the service. We will go again eventually, but would go much more often if the service environment was better.

One of Houston's most unique classic bars, El Big Bad has a great score of custom agreed tequilas of all sorts of flavors. You can see the jars aging around the restaurant and get the menu list. The patio space is awesome, overlooking historic Market Square Park. I've been coming here on and off for years, tonight I was riding my bike by and decided to stop by. Ivan killed it and took great care of us, what a party!

Wanted to try a new burger place and came here. Got the Truck Stopper and the Spicy Chipotle with fries. Burgers and fries were very good. Appealing options for burgers. Liked the diner-style setting and vintage decor. Staffer who took our order was nice and made helpful recommendations. Interested to try their Chilis next time. There are a few parking spots in front of the restaurant; otherwise, I think people park in the street.

Absolutely delicious burger! From the moment you walk in the door - to the walk out - the staff are attentive and pleasant - and we came in an hr before closing on Sunday. No rushed feeling. No attitude. Awesome awesome experience Burger was cooked perfectly. Flavored well. The perfect amount of “crispy/char” I like on a burger. The bun toasted to perfection. Fries were super crisp & hot. This is honestly the best burger I’ve had since moving here (so. 8 years now 😅😅) It is a blink and you’ll miss it location. But thank you google gods for suggesting it! I wish my picture was more impressive because this burger is way better than my photo would have you believe. Well seasoned patty that was not thick, but more than your normal thin flat top burger. Chili cheese with habanero mustard. Definitely felt the spice on this one. Tater tots were nice and crispy.

Central Texas Bar-B-Q is a hidden gem near Hobby Airport, offering a cozy and authentic atmosphere. This family-owned joint serves up a straightforward menu with lunch-only options that won't disappoint. The A La Carte Deluxe is a standout, featuring an array of meats like chicken, roast beef, ribs, turkey, and sausage with the option of jalapeno or regular. The friendly staff and warm ambiance make every visitor feel at home.
You need to be prepared to be in line at least 15 min. This is a very popular and nice place. I ate here on my trip to Houston wanting to have a very local and unique Barbecue experience and this place did not disappoint. You would probably find the place very interesting since they have a lot of classic/old items interesting to see, this resembles like a museum inside the restaurant. Very unique, original and tasty. Well recommended.

Ordered 3 meat plate, 2 sides and sweet tea for $19.95: chicken, jalapeno sausage, brisket, potato salad, cornbread dressing and green beans. Extra side was $3.95. All meats, green beans and tea was good. Potato salad needed a little more seasoning. Coŕrnbread dressing was okay and I will not order it again. Fresh onions and pickles. I've been to this restaurant multiple times. Always busy but great customer

I was visiting from out of town and the hotel shuttle driver recommended this place. He was spot on. The food was excellent. Hot, and tasty. They were busy with a Friday lunch rush, but service was fast. I find it amazing that a barbecue place can stay in business only serving lunch Monday through Friday. But it seems to work for this place. I had the two meat and two side lunch platter with a drink. It was just under 20 bucks.

If you're in the Houston Hobby area, absolutely go get lunch from here. The food is absolutely delicious. The chicken I got was perfectly juicy and tender. Just be sure you go with an empty stomach because you WILL be full by the end of this scrumptious meal

This is my second time eating here. The staff is friendly and helpful. First time I order the 2 meat with brisket and sausage with tater salad and beans. The second plate was pork ribs and jalapeño sausage. Came in at opening time. The first plate the brisket was a little dry. Was served the flat point. Very little smoke ring. But the flavor was good. Sausage was great. Not dried at all. The second visit the pork ribs were good. Light on the spices on the bark. The sausage was good. On both plates the beans were under cooked. Still a bit hard to the point. They felt grainy while eating. The tater salad was very good. Only thing that threw me off was the tater salad having green olives in it. Looks like they put new pinto beans with some old beans together. My opinion

Lunch only BBQ spot was fire. Walk in and the good ol aroma of TX BBQ permeates your senses in the best way. Weren't hungry? Now you are, & you're in for a treat. They have unsweet and sweet tea 🍋
Lily C — Google review
I’ve had better barbecue in the most northern spot in america from a gas station. The ribs are mostly tender, but are burnt and the sauce lacks any flavor. The mac and cheese is some nasty artificially yellow soup water with bland pasta, it’s like Kraft Mac and cheese but 10x worse. The potato salad genuinely looked and tasted like play dough. The high reviews for this place shock me, I expected so much better from a Houston joint but couldn’t believe how awful the food was. Complete waste of $22. At least the service is fine

La Calle is a lively taqueria located in Downtown, offering a vibrant atmosphere and classic Mexican street eats. One of the highlights is the Elote, a popular street snack featuring mesquite-grilled corn topped with mayo, Cotija cheese, chili powder, and lime.
A little pricey but amazing tacos! I was nearby for jury duty and opted for these tacos instead of cafeteria food. Boy was I glad! I got the street tacos and tried the pastor, birria, and chicken. Super good and loved the salsa. The plate had 5 tacos for $13. Not a bad price for downtown! I sat in there and vibed to the Mexican music. Nice lunch break. Employees were nice and friendly.

My favorite tacos in Houston. Every single time it hits. You can’t go wrong with any of the meat choices, but I go with the Pastor, Birria, and Chorizo. It’s all hot and fresh, and they actually fill the tacos. Grab a cold beer and enjoy the salsa bar as well. I always miss pictures because I’m too excited for the food, but here’s a few as well. Highly recommend!

The only issue I have is I believe for the price the quantity does not match BUT the QUALITY is top tier. It good freshly made food to the point the flavors hold up even a 1hr or 2 later. The service was average like nothing extravagant but the ladies were nice and patient. The atmosphere is unique and the connected bar on the other side has a good vibe to it as well. I think they would benefit from a like happy hour price system concerning the food to just up sales but otherwise they are GREAT

Awful experience. **Spend your hard earned money here at your own risk.** My husband and I both ordered the street taco plates. We walked to the bar side to eat. The tacos are super salty and lacked real flavor. I rate the food 2/5. I decided to order a frozen lime margarita at the bar. After paying I realize the total is 12.99 on a drink advertised as $10.99 before tax. The drink rang up as $12 before "tax" and $12.99 after "tax" This didn't make sense (what happened to the drink that was $10.99?) Also this was approx. 6oz pour which is tiny. I'm familiar with how taxes are calculated and based on the Harris County restaurant/on-premise alcohol tax rates the receipt did not make sense. This restaurant is profiting by adding money to your bill that can not be identified. It is not an auto gratuity, service charge, or tax. It is simply an attempt to overcharge patrons that aren't paying attention and is unacceptable. I asked the cashier and the bartender why my drink advertised as $10.99 totaled to $12.99. These are the responses I received: 1. The 'frozen drinks' price advertised is not for margaritas. I asked what other frozen drinks do they offer. They said none. 2. Because my margarita was served in a glass instead of foam cup. (I did not ask for glass) Also why would they charge more for a much smaller glass cup that is reusable? 3. Because I didn't purchase the margarita in the morning i.e prices change throughout the day 4. After several excuses that didn't make sense the bartender did apologize and admit that they don't ACTUALLY know and said she would ask the manager. I saw her speak with him and he never came over to clarify the pricing to my husband and I 4. I don't blame the workers. This has been implemented by the owners and they need to be held accountable. After reading other reviews this is an issue in their establishment and also illegal. Do better, Tacos La Calle. It is unethical to take advantage of paying customers that CHOOSE to support your business. Failing to be transparent for a quick buck will surely be their downfall.

I had Molina's flagged as a place to try since it was perhaps Houston's oldest family-run Tex-Mex restaurant. I'm so glad we did. It's a beautiful restaurant. I was impressed from the moment we opened the door. It was between lunch and dinner time. Lunch menu and happy hour continued until 4pm. The portions were very generous for lunch. I had carnitas. They were perfect. Very tender and tasty with just the right amount of crunch on the outside. I had both a House and Premium Margarita to go along with everything. I also tasted a Blackberry Margarita and a Mango Margarita. They're doing it right at Molina's. We'll certainly go back when in the area. Oh! I almost forgot. Free pralines with the check. So good! What a great experience all around.

Disappointed- Molina’s Cantina had been on my Bucket List for a while now. (We don’t live close.) Tonight we went for a nice family dinner, ordered Margaritas all around, each took one sip and recognized something was off. The beverage professional (bartender) at our table asked the server if the margaritas were batch-prepared-they are and we suggested he speak to the bartender and bring us one re-made drink. He offered us other choices but that was not what we wanted. Very surprised that a manager or bartender did not come to our table to resolve the problem after we sent all 4 drinks back. Restaurant was reasonably busy but not crazy crowded. The food was very good, not drive across town good but in no way disappointing, but we won’t be back. We really tried to give the restaurant the opportunity to fix the problem but they took the drinks off the bill and we had our margaritas at home.

Great place for authentic Mexican food. You know it's good because there is always a wait but they get the line down quick. There is also a bakery in the restaurant that you can browse around while you wait. I got the big tex burrito and it was great. The salsa that comes with the chips is so delicious, we had to buy a container to take home too. The Hercules juice was so, so good and a definite must try. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We loved the gorditas too. Whatever cheese they put on them is delicious and passes the cheese pull test. Service was amazing. All of the staff were super friendly and attentive. Our food came out very quickly too. Parking is pretty easy since they have a large parking lot behind the restaurant.

I've been chowing down at this spot since I was in their booster seats. Now as an adult I admire their consistency. The salsa and chips are the best, but my go to is their gorditas, extra meat extra cheese for me. With an agua fresca you can never go wrong. This is a Houston staple and powerhouse. Parking is vast and you'll need it as it can get pretty packed at peak hours.

If you're looking for comida auténtica that hits just right, Taqueria Del Sol on Park Place is la mera mera. This place has been serving up classic Mexican dishes for years, and it shows in every bite - from the handmade tortillas to the perfectly seasoned meats. The atmosphere is alegre y acogedor — colorful walls, friendly staff, and a laid-back vibe that makes you feel like you’re stepping into la cocina de tu abuelita. It’s casual, but there’s nothing casual about the flavor. I had a Barbarcoa Gordita — tender, juicy beef smothered in cheese, wrapped in a warm corn tortilla. ¡Delicioso! Melt-in-your-mouth magic. They don’t skimp on portions either — bien servidos and satisfying. The real surprise was the bakery section. Don’t leave without trying some pan dulce - especially the conchas. Soft, fresh, and just sweet enough to pair with a cafecito. Pure comfort. Taqueria Del Sol is the kind of place you go to when you want real Mexican food — nada Tex-Mex, just the good stuff your tía would make. Affordable, flavorful, and lleno de corazón. Recomendado 100%. Bring your appetite, your love for comida casera, and maybe a stretchy waistband. Buen provecho!

Ordered a tampiquena plate with extra meat get home to a plate with just meat and fries. No rice no tortillas no grilled onions. Manager just says ok sorry I’ll give you a discount next time. WTH doesn’t even get my info what a joke

The food is very TRADITIONAL so don't expect Tex-Mex. No queso here. That said, the carnes are very flavorful in whatever plato you pick. Only issue we experience last few visits is the female servers have an attitude. Not friendly. Seem very rushed and impatient. This last time a young guy was our server & very attentive. Pleasantly surprised so we stopped next door to buy pan dulce! Cookies not so fresh but pan dulce was!

I've been coming here since they opened up. Today was the first time that I had poor service..and the flour tortillas are now half the size they once was. I'm very disappointed. The server never brought silver ware..the server seems like he didn't want to be at work. And don't ask for a to go box, it took 15 minutes to get one. The men servers need to go back to the kitchen and put Women back on the floor. A woman has never once forgotten to bring silverware, they normally bring it with ur food or when they get ur drinks. I guess I'm going to have to start going elsewhere... And take all my HPD AND FIREMAN FAMILY WITH ME

What an amazing array of 🍰 pastries. A go to spot if you are close to one of their locations. So many items in which to choose for everyone's taste. I am sure their custom cake are delish. We picked out 14 items for 20$. They were are scrumptious.

I was in heaven when I went here. There are so many great things to eat here. I could not decide what I wanted. I really wanted one of everything. Out of what i bought, the favorite thing I ate was the croissant with cream cheese in it. Go here, you will not be disappointed.

Disappointed. I ordered a Hello Kitty heart-shaped cake a week in advance for my daughter’s birthday. During the ordering process, I was told the cake would cost extra due to the heart shape, which I agreed to. We discussed the size, shape, and design in detail. However, when I arrived to pick it up on the day of the party, I was extremely disappointed to find that the cake did not resemble a heart at all. I was shocked that they would present the cake as ‘acceptable’ in that condition. When I raised my concern, I was told the shape couldn’t be clearly defined because it was a smaller 10” cake. If that was the case, it should have been clearly communicated at the time of ordering. not at pickup when it’s too late to make other arrangements. I had also asked for “Happy Birthday” to be written on top with a small Hello Kitty image at the bottom. Instead, they said the text didn’t fit on the top and had to place it around the base, which wasn’t what I envisioned. What frustrated me most was that I paid extra for a heart shape and didn’t receive it. They offered to redo the borders in an hour, but I was already on a tight schedule and far from the party and didn’t have time to wait. I asked for a discount and was only offered $15 off. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to accept it and move on sadly, my daughter was left to take birthday pictures with a deformed/undefined cake. The only saving grace was that the cake and frosting did taste good, but overall, I was very unhappy with the service and how the situation was handled. For future customers, I would advise clear communication and setting realistic expectations, especially when you’re charging extra for a specific custom shape.

Tamales have a Tex-Mex flavor, Not Mexican. 😑 No salsa is inside the tamal and has too much cumin and salt flavor. Price $7.49 for a half dozen. I purchased chicken & pork 🥴 🥐 Sweet bread is good 👍

Halal restaurant
"The Halal Guys" is a popular offshoot of the famous NYC food cart, offering a variety of halal options such as gyro, falafel, and chicken platters. The restaurant provides ample indoor and outdoor seating with tasteful decor and vibrant wall art. Customers praise the marinated chicken and beef served over perfectly cooked rice. The menu includes combo plates with shawarma, rice, pita bread, and sides like hummus.
It is my coworker's birthday today and the office ordered lunch from here. It was a fairly large order and it is expected that issues could arise due to the sheer amount of different orders that were involved. However, everything arrived perfectly. The food was on time, still hot and fresh. It was a great experience for a special occasion. All of us appreciated the hard work into making the food and making sure it was all correct. I can't wait to order from them again in the future.

Just like the Halal carts in NYC, the service here is fast and efficient. The mixed combo (chicken and beef gyro) is always flavorful and hits the spot.

One of the worst locations. They discriminate. It was my 2nd time at this location and they gave me small quantity of everything. If you speak Spanish, you get the real food. That was what i saw while sitting for an hour and observing. Do NOT GO to this Location.
Shehzad A — Google review
There are a ton of Halal Guys in this city, but this location and the Pearland outpaces the other ones. The food here is always fresh and delicious. You don’t get dried or crystallized rice. The lettuce and tomato retain its vibrant fresh color. The meats are also seasoned well. I love that everything here is hot. I love their chicken wings as well. Nicely battered, crispy, crunchy with a juicy finish. It’s always my favorite thing to add with the regular platter. The parking lot can be insane during busy lunch rushes and dinner. It’s well worth the visit. Did I mention that restroom out back is really clean?!

I always enjoy coming to The Halal Guys in Downtown Houston. I usually get the regular platter, and it’s always fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The service is just as good as the food. Brad and Sheina are wonderful people, always welcoming and professional. They really make the experience even better. Definitely a spot worth recommending!
Abdou D — Google review
I tried their wings for the first time and they were incredible — perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The seasoning was spot on and they paired perfectly with their signature sauces. Definitely my new go-to order!
Vu N — Google review
First time visiting this restaurant. Parking is ample. Access is fairly easy of your coming from the Shepherd side. Received a friendly welcome. Took the special, a Platter with three items: beef, rice and lettuce and tomato, a small scoop of hummus and three little pita triangles. $9.99 and the quantity was good. Verdict: The food is delicious. It tastes clean, without added funky seasonings. I have a very sensitive stomach, and it was perfectly happy afterwards, as the food didn't cause any discomfort. Bottle drinks are pricey. Pet peeve: There is an outside toilet. I was at the restaurant about 40 minutes. I tried to use it several times, and the door was always locked. I knocked no answer. I think management should install a second toilet or at least check on the person (anything can happen). I will eat again at the Halal Guys as I found the food delicious.
Regina F — Google review
I think I may have just found my staple halal place! Although this restaurant is stationed like a grab n go, there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating! I love that it’s handicap accessible and kid friendly. The interior is designed tastefully and outgoing wall art bright bubbly colors and artfully crafted seating tables. The food!!! Don’t get me started on the food! Marinated overnight, you tasted some of the juiciest chicken and beef over top of perfected cooked rice! They will ask you if you want spice, sauces, and bbq sauce! You will say yes to all of these! Sit back, eat, relax and enjoy the wonderful flavors of roasted peppercorn, and a variety of spices! The staff was very helpful and actually recommended that I get the combination plate with all the fixings and toppings. They were not wrong!

Collina's Italian Cafe is a family-friendly restaurant with three locations in Houston. It offers generous personal-sized pizzas starting at just $7, which come with a salad and breadsticks. The Rosemarito Chicken is a recommended dish, featuring char-grilled flavors with hints of rosemary, garlic, and lemon. While the service may have room for improvement, the delicious pizza and garlic bread make it worth a visit for those seeking simple Italian food in a comfortable setting.
Great food at a fabulous price! Service is always amazing.😁 We had the stuffed artichoke, stuffed portobello, and bread as appetizers. Shared the amazing tortellini and pizza( Mona Lisa and Greca) both flavored to the fullest!

Delicious Food, Friendly Service — But the Restroom Needs Serious Attention ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5) We visited on a quieter day, but it’s clear this spot is popular with employees from the nearby private companies, so it can get busy during peak hours. Thankfully, we were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated right away—great first impression. The menu offers a wide variety, and everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. I highly recommend the meatballs—the meatball Bolognese was especially good. The pasta was perfectly al dente. I did ask for a side of fresh basil to bring a bit more brightness to the sauce, and it made the dish even better. The lasagna was also cooked beautifully and came in just the right portion size. For the quality of food and service, the prices are very reasonable. My only critique—and it’s a big one—is the condition of the restrooms. They’re severely outdated and honestly feel more like a gas station bathroom than one that belongs to a restaurant of this caliber. It’s disappointing, especially since everything else about the experience feels elevated. A full renovation would make a huge difference in aligning the ambiance with the quality of the food and service. Great food, welcoming staff, and excellent value. We’ll definitely be back—but I do hope management considers updating the bathrooms to match the rest of the experience.

I was so skeptical at first. The menu looks good but Ive been disappointed with the Olive Gardens of the area. I played it safe & got ravioli. When it came out the sauce was orange & I was like “nope, not gonna work”. But WOW! 🤩 It’s so good! I was totally shocked at how much I liked it and will 100% come here again! The atmosphere is inviting, friendly and the staff is very helpful. They genuinely look happy to see you. It’s nice to finally find a great Italian food restaurant to enjoy a meal.

My first visit here was very pleasant. Everyone was really nice and keeper checking up on me. I tried the lasagna and was pleased with the taste and the portion. I was thankful that everyone was so attentive. I will come back to try more on the menu. Fyi...parking lot shows that you need to scan a QR code to pay, however as long as you are parked under 2 hours, you don't have to scan nor pay for parking.

We had an incredible experience at Collina’s Italian Cafe on W 19th! The cheesy garlic bread with marinara was perfectly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and loaded with flavor. The meatballs were tender and richly seasoned, exactly what we hoped for…and the French vanilla cheesecake? Absolutely divine! Creamy, smooth, and the perfect finish to the meal. Cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and genuinely great food. We’ll definitely be back!

Decent sized parking lot and simple table seating. Plenty of space available for inside and outside seating. It's a casual tone eatery. The appetizers taste good but the main dishes are just bad. The pizza has plenty of toppings but is very dry. The cheese steak Panini was horrible. I regret getting it, it was nothing more than an over toasted bouillon bread.
Houston G — Google review
Second time going to this location but should’ve learned from our first experience. Food quality was not up to Collinas standards on Richmond. On our first visit I ordered my favorite eggplant parmigiana and couldn’t cut the eggplants like they’re rubber. Complained about it to the waiter and they remade it but it’s even worse. On our recent visit we took the kids to enjoy some pizza mainly, but it looked like there’s a shortage of cheese that day. Not much of it on the pizza and again compared to Richmond location, it’s terrible. I enjoyed the lasagna but it’s cold, I guess I was hungry. One of the kids got the tortellini and he had the same issue plus it’s tasting not very good. Also, this location is not serving wine and I know. We thought this locating is gonna be our new spot but unfortunately we are very disappointed and don’t think we will go back here.

Mandola's Deli is a beloved family-owned Italian eatery that has been serving up comforting classics since 1977. Run by Frank Mandola and his son Joseph, the deli offers a diverse menu featuring appetizers, soups, salads, PoBoy sandwiches, Italian specialties, and even some American options. The establishment is known for its warm hospitality and rambunctious staff.
Another gem in Houston! Looking for the real Italian deal (and sometimes with a twist)? Mandola’s family tradition for “happiness through food” is a must when in Houston whether you’re a local or just a visitor (like me). From the moment you walk in and get greeted by the owner and staff, to ordering the food, to bringing that first bite to your mouth, it is all goodness!! I went with a couple who are great friends and as much of a foodie and I am. They are local and they had nothing to say but good things about Mandola’s Deli. The stuffed artichoke is the best in class, probably in all Texas! My friend C ordered the Muffuletta and his wife M ordered the eggplant parmigiana Po boy and they said it was fantastic. I had the Giovanni with spaghetti and it was delicious. Both the gent who took our order and the owner, said this plate is one of their best, and boy they are not wrong. Starting with a great flavored Italian sausage, sliced and grilled to perfection topped with four absolutely fantastic meatballs and a homemade sauce, it was a home run of flavors. This is another repeat restaurant for me next time I’m back in Houston. Thank you for keeping this traditional Mandola’s!!

Visited Mandola’s Deli on a Saturday at 1:30pm. It’s an old school family owned and operated spot with vintage charm; wood paneling and memorabilia on the walls. I thought I would’ve beaten the lunch crowd but ended up waiting in line for 40 minutes to order and receive my food. The large Deluxe Po-Boy was tasty and filling and the chocolate chip cookies were soft and delicious! I appreciate that the owner was working front and center at the register, providing great personable service, but he seemed stretched quite thin which slowed the line down. (Only person entering orders in the one register they have, but also attending to multiple things behind the counter.) I will definitely be back but during off peak hours, or phone in my order ahead of time.

If you are looking for a true, delicious, Italian family cooking experience then come to Mandola's Deli. There were a number of families dining, Houston Fire Dept. staff, and being in the East End, plenty of Univ. of Hou. supporters dressed in their red shirts with the U of H logo. There are plenty of delicious options on their menu and their prices are not exorbitant. I visited during the lunch rush but the owners and staff attended to all of the customers in a timely, professional and courteous manner. We dined in during their 50th anniversary and also took more food to go. The deluxe poor boys were delicious, all made with very fresh vegetables and fresh meats. Their Italian spread was exquisite. The crust of the bread was crispy on the ouside and soft and delicate on the inside. One could tell that the bread was very, very fresh. The fried mozzarella cheese sticks were homemade and delicious. The chicken parmesan sandwiches that we took to go were a true gastronomic delight! A visit to the Mandola's Deli is a wonderful dining experience and one that should not be missed.

Alamo Tamales is a popular spot in North Houston that has been serving up delicious tamales and Mexican favorites for over 50 years. The cafeteria-style setting offers a variety of tamales, including options like jalapeno and cheese, sweet corn, shredded pork, and more. The establishment is known for its hand-rolled tamales filled with flavorful ingredients and served with addictive red and green salsas.
Everything is always delicious here. Been coming here for years - the prices have gone up as they got more popular but still worth it. The tamales are some of the best in town. Breakfast on the weekend is usually packed but it’s a large place so seats open up decently quick.

The quality of the food is satisfactory; however, the pricing appears excessive. I ordered a menudo, Chico, and found the portion considerably smaller than expected. The grande size did not align with the larger portions I am accustomed to. In conclusion, it seems that the establishment prioritizes profit over value. Some alternative venues provide comparable or superior cuisine at much more reasonable prices.

3.3 stars. Stopped in to pick up some tamales. Prices were fair. Lots to choose from though. We ended up getting a half dozen sweet corn tamales which were okay. We also picked up a half dozen chicken tamales which were also standard. Friendly employees and well organized operation. Just not quite sure what the fuss and hype are about.

Have tried only tamales here so far and they are not the best but we like them. My wife thinks tamales we have had in Houston were small-ish and dough was overly seasoned for her taste. Friendly staffers. Nice atmosphere. It is sort of cafeteria-style; want to try more of their offerings like tacos or empanadas. They have a bakery, too; it would be nice if more of the bakery foods were labelled, or maybe we just need to learn more about those offerings, ha.

Coworkers always want to eat here for lunch. Food served quick due to it being pre-made and under heat lamps. Can get pretty busy with long line. Ladies behind counter seems to rush me when I need time to read the extensive menu or see what's on the line. Dislike the fact of only bottled drinks served instead of refillable fountain drinks. Ordered beef fajita tacos which were pretty good.

Came here on Thursday morning and the barbacoa tastes nasty and had a lot oil dripping. Love the food here! If you’re looking for a good old fashioned Mexican breakfast then this is the place! I got 4 tacos but quickly realized that it only took one for me to be full. Bacon and egg and Potato and egg were delicious. Also got a Migas plate and it was so yummy! Reminded me of grandmas breakfast. I recommend this place and will be back.

I am a regular at Villa Arcos. Ever since they re-opened some years ago. I order once per week or twice, early in the morning for 7am meetings. So, my orders go from 30-35 tacos every time . Their tacos are really good, they are generous with the sizes so you do get what you pay for. Now, the only issue for me is that no matter how long in advance I place my order, when I arrive to pick up, they aren’t ready yet. If I call the order in, or I place it online… same thing. And the lady who’s always there early before 7am shes always making me faces bc I’m rushing them, she gets so bothered. Well, I’m sorry lady… I have somewhere to be on time. Can’t be late ! I think my weekly orders aren’t good enough for you. I switched from ordering from brothers taco bc theirs are so greasy. But, with a broken heart, I might have to go back to them again. ***My only issue is timing, not the quality of their tacos***

Okay, But Nothing Special - 3 Stars The food here was... fine. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't memorable. I ordered the beef tips, and while they were cooked properly, they were surprisingly bland. Needed a lot more seasoning, in my opinion. Overall, it was an average meal, perfectly acceptable if you're looking for something quick and easy, but don't expect to be wowed.

Love this place! It’s a must try in Houston. I usually get their breakfast tacos which are a classic, but decided to try the carne guisada for the first time. It was flavorful, but could have been a bit more tender. I will however be back because the service is spectacular and I love just sitting outside and enjoying the atmosphere. If you go don’t skip out on getting some take home goodies (desserts).

I enjoy coming to Villa Arcos for the best breakfast tacos!! I was introduced to Villa Arcos by my stepdad & I’m glad I was. I enjoy visiting them for their breakfast tacos, it’s my favorite item from their menu. Their previous menu did have more items to choose from but I’m content with the new menu items available. If anything, I’m glad they reopened as I thought they were permanently closed. They do have vegetarian options for those in need. They have both inside and outside seating. On weekends it can get hectic and you might have to wait but it’s worth the wait. They cook most of their tacos from scratch in a cast iron pan, you literally can hear the stainless steel spatula steering all of the ingredients together, be patient. You pair the tacos with the green and red salsa, I add both, smh but I can’t help it. Sometimes the green salsa is spicier but both salsa’s enhance the flavor of the tacos. They also created a rewards program for their members which you can redeem with them. Give them a try, they’ve been around for decades!!!

I went earlier today and seen nothing but young ppl working there and the food is bland and garbage 🗑️ and they too expensive for some no effort into seasoning and fully cooking the flour tortilla. Just visited San Dong Noodle House and I'm still dreaming about those handmade noodles! This place delivers authentic, soulful Chinese cuisine that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even paid the check. The beef noodle soup is absolutely spectacular - tender chunks of beef swimming in a rich, aromatic broth with perfectly chewy handmade noodles. But the true showstoppers are their pork & chive dumplings with perfectly crimped edges and juicy fillings that burst with flavor. What impressed me most was how quickly everything arrived at our table despite the restaurant being busy. Don't miss this culinary treasure - your taste buds will thank you!

San Dong remains a Houston staple that never misses! My usual go-to is their incredible beef noodle soup, but this time I switched it up for the pork chop rice plate at an amazing $9.99. It was a fantastic choice—perfectly seasoned, tender pork paired with fluffy rice that’s just as satisfying as my usual. The pan fried dumplings were, as always, a highlight, with their crispy exterior and juicy, savory filling. The vibe is cozy, the service is warm, and the food is consistently outstanding. San Dong is a must-visit gem in Houston!

Surprisingly good Cantonese style noodle house. While they have a few different options, I tried the signature spicy beef noodle. You order and pay at the counter, get a table number and they bring the food out. The meats are braised to perfection and they give you a good amount and proportionate to the noodles. The pickled cabbage they put in is amazing too. Overall, great experience and would love to try out their other signature dishes next time

What can I say but WOW! I'm so glad I checked this place out. This little mom n pop shop is COOKING! It is a counter service style where you order everything at the counter and the nice, polite lady hands you a number and you seat yourself. You go grab your utensils and bring them to your table and a different sweet lady will bring the food out to you. The beef tendon soup... incredibly flavorful, rich, and deep. It comes out piping hot. The tendon chunks were large and melty tender. The noodles have a slight bounce and chew and they have this subtle wheat flavor. You can tell they are quality noodles. The soup is simply but perfectly dressed with scallions, bok choy, and some pickled greens which give a nice subtle sour note. If I had one critique it is minor, but I wish the bok choy was a little more cooked but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker. The portion size was just right. Very filling, but not too gluttonous. I absolutely loved this soup, so on the way out I ordered another to-go! In addition, I tried the pig ears in the self-serve fridge... So tender, flavorful, and not chewy at all. Very nice! I also got the spicy tripe from said fridge and it was equally as good, flavorful, slightly spicy, and so tender. Purchase those with your noodles and you can eat them together. Chef's kiss 🤤👌 Needless to say, this will be a staple noodle soup spot for me and I highly recommend it! Edit: oh neat I was the 1000th reviewer 😂

I had an excellent first-time experience at this restaurant! The Roasted Beef Noodle soup and Pan-fried Dumplings were standout dishes. The broth was clear and flavorful, and the noodles were fresh and perfectly cooked. The option to customize spice levels with pepper and chili oil was a great touch. The dumplings were authentic and had a homemade taste. Portion sizes were generous – we often shared the dumplings, easy portions. The service was efficient, with friendly staff and easy counter ordering, kudos to them. Even during rush hour, the tables turned over smoothly. Highly recommend the Roasted Beef Noodles and Pan-fried Dumplings – a fun and satisfying meal for both kids and adults!

Gyro King is a no-frills counter-serve spot that offers classic gyros with meats cooked to order. Customers rave about the delicious and fresh food, with options like lamb gyro for $7 and combo over rice featuring both chicken and lamb. The generous portion sizes and variety of vegetables are also highlighted. The shrimp gyro is noted for its freshness and tastiness, accompanied by great red and white sauces.
Tried the lamb over rice, lamb salads... The person at the counter preparing the food was very nice.. Patiently customized our each orders. At the same time, provided both red and white sauce containers.. Amazing customer service goes a long way.. Thank you.. keep it up!!

We have visited Gyro King several times in the past, but our experience last night was exceptional. Hamid & Junaid were very friendly and work well together. They weren’t keeping customers waiting too long at checkout or with orders. Food was delicious as usual. My go to is combo over salad. They aren’t stingy with toppings like other gyro shops. The serving size for platters is large enough for 2 people.

I always like getting food from here. The portions are large and the quality is always great. The cashier, Adia, that helped me today was also really nice and got my order exactly the way I asked for it! She helped make my experience here today really nice! (This is the lamb and chicken over rice combo, which comes with their seasoned fries and a drink.)

I got the lamb over rice platter and it was awesome! Packed with lots of flavor The staff was nice and patient, answered all my questions ( Adia & Jonas) very welcoming. (I live on the other side of town but every time I’m near I pay them a visit). Restaurant is always clean with a good atmosphere. Will definitely be back…. yum 😋

Food here is always good. Service is fast; never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my order. The only complaint I have is how they charge for extra red sauce when I order for pickup, but it’s free if I eat there 🧐. Highly recommend the lamb over rice, gyro sandwiches, and gyro fries.

I see other people's pictures and reviews of this place. It just look so good, and I had to try it myself. I'm so glad I did. I came here after grocery shopping at the Kroger next door, and I ordered my food to-go on a Saturday afternoon. The food came out in a timely manner. ♡ Combo over Rice. 8/10 I love being able to have both chicken and lamb at the same time! The portion size is HUGE, and I love the variety of vegetables that came along with it. The red sauce was spicy and good, but that white sauce was something else. It was SO delicious drizzled over my rice platter. Next time I order from here again, I would ask for more white sauce because I love it so much. 。 ₊°༺❤︎༻°₊ 。 FINAL VERDICT: I would definitely come here again. It is very affordable for the amount of food you get, and the service was friendly. Next time, I have to try out the combo fries!
Elena N — Google review
I have been coming here somewhat frequently for a year or so. It’s amazing. It feels good to eat and you feel good after it’s in your system. The food makes me feel ready to tackle the day and it is very delicious. The lamb is by far my favorite and the staff are always nice. Honestly at this moment I can say it’s my favorite place to stop

Cantina Barba is a laid-back spot that serves house-smoked meat tacos, coffee, beer, and mezcal. It's known for its late-night hours, staying open until 12 am on Sundays through Thursdays and until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu includes items like the cheeseburger, smoked pork taco, and jamaica aqua fresca. In addition to tacos, they offer margarita kits with various options for tequila-based drinks.
The food, atmosphere, and staff were all awesome. Visited for the first time with a few friends on a late Friday night, and we had no issues finding a place to sit. Friends told me to try a margarita and glad I did because it didn't disappoint! The al pasta and carne asada tacos were delicious. I appreciate all the staff that helped me and wish I could remember names to shout y'all out!!
Ana G — Google review
I’ve been coming here for the past 5-6 years since I moved to Houston. A buddy recommended it to me, and it instantly became my favorite taco spot to go to. But I don’t come here that often. Why is it that you ask… it’s my favorite spot after all. Their prices are just a bittttt overpriced. These 2 tacos cost me $13.41. Just a Carne Asada and add avocado…basically $14 for 2 tacos that are slightly bigger than street tacos is crazy work. Please, y’all’s prices are a bit much. I can go to another taco spot around town or a damn good taco truck and get more for less. Other than that, the vibes are immaculate. Customer service is straightforward but nothing to write home about. It’s really a “No BS” kind of spot, so you just get what you get. They’re not rude, but I feel like often times it feels as if they’re a bit too “cool for school.” Another annoying nitpick is they don’t have a phone number you can call, which is…bizarre to me. Maybe they’ve added one since this review, but I’ve never been able to find it. The deck & cover they added on the side is a really nice touch compared to the gravel that was there before. It keeps the sun from destroying your soul in the middle of summertime. And the small little shack they have on the opposite side of the deck is a whole damn vibe in the summer and whenever they have it open. You get some quality DJs in there, and it’s a super fun time. Overall, I’ll keep coming back because they’ve never given me a reason not to. This is one of the dopest spots in Houston to hit up for some tacos by far!

Kristopher K — Google review
This is the second time in the row that I've gone to order food from this place. Which I always enjoyed, but waited almost 15 minutes for somebody to come back to the bar and take my order. There seems to be no urgency for customer service. When I left tonight there were 8 people in line waiting. Sometimes success breeds arrogance.
Ramiro O — Google review
Cantina Barba Is a classic mezcal bar, I visited the bar at night after winding down from a fun night in the city. The food here is reasonably priced, and the ambience is pretty cozy, I personally haven’t had a chance to visit the bar in daylight but I’m willing to bet it’s prettier in the day time. Ambiance: outdoor patio 10/10!! Spacious, and vibrant at night. Indoor seating 6/10 a bit cramped, indoor seating gives off dive bar vibes. Cuisine: 10/10 classic bar food, the nachos were even better!! Price Range: reasonably priced, the chicken quesadilla was priced at $8 with a drink. Parking: 4/10 awkward real estate location, late night stiff parking. Alcohol/smoking: Alcohol/Smoking friendly Operating hours: 9AM-2AM SUN-THU, 9AM-3AM FRI & SAT, great spot to hit up late at night.

Restaurant
Frenchy's Chicken is a fast-food chain that has achieved cult status in Houston since its establishment in 1969. With nine locations across the city, it offers classic Creole dishes such as fried chicken, gumbo, and jambalaya. The original Frenchy's on Scott St. is particularly renowned for its cayenne-spiked fried chicken, which many argue is the best in town. Founded by Percy Frenchy Creuzot Jr.
I've been wanting to try Frenchy's for some time. I finally made the trip to Scott from the east side. Fantastic! My #2 chicken behind Loveless Cafe, Nashville Tennessee. Food was fantastic. Employees were very friendly. Addicted at first bite.
Derrick B — Google review
Something happened to Frenchy’s, it’s just not what it used to be. The chicken reminded me of the chicken you get at Kroger or grocery stores with hot food, and the wings were objectively small. The fish was good, but that’s about it. The “fast lane” doesn’t have the whole menu on it. We wanted fish and boudin egg rolls, but had to get back in line once we realized it just wasn’t on the kiosk. Tables were sticky too, not because of food, it was like the finish or something. Just go to Gus’ or Timmy chans for chicken. Yes, Timmy chans.

Great service fresh food 👌 🙌 👍 Could have been crispier and bigger pieces. Fries good 👍 not amazing... flavor good but nothing to write home about... definitely worth a visit if you're in town not to expensive
A S — Google review
We ate here for lunch , I love the building and outside area. We got the king plate, the chicken had alot of fat, every bite was crunchy but had jiggling fat inside. No hot sauce, so I spend .50 cents on a jalapeño . There is no napkins outside the counter. You get 1 ketchup packet and a wipe inside the bag. The people behind the counter were nice and all had something to do.
Sandra H — Google review
A gd H town institution. Frenchys used to not look like this but the flavor is still there. If you went to UH you were blessed with some of the best fried chicken around. It’s a beautiful thing to see how it looked like v the new location now. Now I’m aware this isn’t exactly a new location per se BUT I hadn’t been to Frenchys since Obamas 2nd term, just never worked out I dunno. Bae also went to UH so we decided on stopping by after the football game and let traffic die down. Chicken Tenders 8/10 - they do fried chicken right. Flavor might be an 8.4 but there was this weird end that was drier than the Sahara. That taste lingered. Red Beans and Rice 7.5/10 - too runny and not enough rice. It needs to be soupy but with some something ya know? Bae got the wings combo and loved it. I mean it’s Frenchys, even when it’s bad it’s good. Follow me on IG Eats_By_Puig

Two catfish and three shrimp combo is off the chain definitely recommend! Perfectly fried crispy the catfish melts in your mouth and the shrimp are perfectly cooked hit every time. It comes with tartar sauce which is very buttery and melts perfectly into the fried catfish and shrimp. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcoming and is family Friendly with a touch of sassy not far off from Louisiana. If you looking for some authentic Louisiana affordable pricing and good portions definitely the spot to come. You'll be full and satisfied but always wanna come back for another taste. Food is so good even after eating it The taste lingers in ya mouth absolutely delicious and the staff are God-fearing people most importantly ! The line be out on the street so make sure you get there at a good time because it is very packed and popular. People come all over the city to eat here but definitely is worth the wait.

I had a lot of expectations. The chicken was nice, but no the chicken tenders. The place was crowded (I assume because of the Beyonce concert), orders took a long time. The place was not really clean, they drag the trash right next to the people eating. I wouldn’t come back again.
Israel G — Google review
Y'all, this chicken was amazing. I ate the first order, then went back and ordered some to take with me. The chicken is seasoned to the bone. I had red beans and rice with the first order. The 2nd order I had dirty rice. It was good! The restaurant was clean! The staff was very friendly, helpful and pleasant. I was shocked at how clean the kitchen was when I looked over the counter. I really enjoyed the food and hospitality. I will be back before my vacation is over!!

If you're on the hunt for a delightful quick bite in Houston, look no further than Texas Super Chicken & Rice. This charming eatery offers an array of American cuisine with a twist, featuring hearty dishes like pork fried rice packed with flavor and generous portions. Diners rave about the garlic-infused beef and broccoli, which is both satisfying and affordable.
$14? There was a ton of garlic on the beef and broccoli I loved it. There’s a sign on the door that says they’re hiring a cashier but when you ask the person working there they say they aren’t hiring, idk I think he just doesn’t wanna be replaced. No fork for my meal, thanks man.

I ordered wings and rice. The wings were absolutely HORRIBLE 🤮 I’m so upset I wasted my time with this place. I should have just gone to Timmy Chan!!! They tasted ROTTEN!! The rice was extremely dry! They don’t give you no gravy, no spoon, no fork, no paper towels, no nothing!!! If I could give this place negative stars I would! I’m so upset! I’ve never met a chicken wing I didn’t like but these aren’t even edible!!!

Ordered the fried fish and shrimp and this is what I got. First time here and I don’t know if it was a bad day to come but the guy at the register was rude to other customers so I should have known… the fish is terrible but my husband said his chicken was okay. Would not return.
Nea F — Google review
Pork fried rice was loaded with meat, a bit salty but overall worth the price. Prices are fair and you get your money's worth. One main issue is it is hot inside if dinning in. Nice Hispanic lady at the register. The hot and sour soup was different than others I've had. There was I think ground pork bits and it was very peppery which I love.

Great food and super easy to order online. Great success with ordering breakfast tacos for the office, the tacos were delicious and everyone was happy. The staff is always friendly.

I can't stop going here! All their tacos are awesome, but expensive. Premium tacos at a premium price. Order a fajita taco and you will get strips of meat in it. They don't skimp on their ingredients. They're open at 7 am and serve lunch tacos as soon as they open. This is a super plus. I don't really like egg tacos and love getting pastor in the morning. You must go here!
Rodrigo C — Google review
So my co workers and i have been going to this location a long time.. tacos have always been very sizable and good. We know not to go between 12pm and 1pm because the service and tacos are not the same. They are much much smaller and the line is going to be long. I was having a "last resort " Friday so I got in line around 12:30pm. The taco was so small with barely any meat on it, that I had to go back and show them... the crazy is part of their brand is making sure the tacos have a sizeable amount of meat in them. But hese are not the same tacos! Lol.. I think this is a good business, just not consistent and not between 12pm and 1:30pm. Try them at 2 or 2 30 and the difference is obvious

I’ve been going here for over one year and I order specific items do to my health and diet restrictions. So I understand how the restaurant might find this situation challenging. Yesterday they messed my order up and I kindly took it back and they started to remake it. Everything was ok until the last cooking my food had a major attitude about it, you could literally see how bothered she was by having to remake the food. I decided I didn’t want it because of this behavior. I don’t want anyone with bad energy making my food. She was acting like this was my fault! So today I went to go order some food and the manager came and told me that they can’t serve me no more that nobody wants to cook for me. Ok, by… I guess the cooks run this business and turn the customer away like they’re the ones in the wrong!
Jessica C — Google review
I had two breakfast tacos. They were massive. I ended up eating one for breakfast and one three hours later. The filling was very good. Good egg, good vegetables, good meat. The tortilla was solid as well. I now know of a place in the tunnels for when I'm stuck in downtown Houston.

The food was okay, but the service needs serious improvement. My order was wrong, and when I tried to fix it, the staff acted like it was my fault. Prices are high for what you get, definitely not worth it.

Service sucks. They close at 8:30pm Saturday. I arrive at 7:59pm. The cashier told me that he can't take my order because they're closing soon; only doing pick ups. Yall close at 8:30pm, why are you guys not taking orders until then?! I believe he was just lazy and didn't want to take my order at all. I get that it's Saturday and you're ready to go.. I just wanted a personal order.

Service was slow, we had to ring the bell and ask for toilet paper. I was excited about ordering shrimp fajitas but they were out. She did not ask how our food was. We had to ask for cutlery and only got one napkin. It came out and it looked and tasted like a microwave meal. It was bland and the chips were stale. It's a bad sign when you go into a fajita restaurant and it doesn't smell like fajitas. It was small and pricey especially for the quality of food. They need a new chef, or I get their chef training.

Sharing as a neighbor living next door. I’ve never tried their food and never will. In addition to the fact that these guys find it ok to be noisy like this at 2 am (at least once a week), this is how they wash their kitchen utensils. No more words needed. I wish the manager could experience what it feels like to live next to their place! It is horrible and I cannot wait to move out.

Had not so good experience on catering order. Order was delivered an hour late. Food was cold. The driver got lost downtown. He was a nice kid, very apologetic. Said they'd give us 10% discount for late delivery. A week later went to check my card to see if they actually did give me a discount only to find 2 charges from the place instead of 1. First for $348 for food without tip and another for $413 with the tip. Both charges were placed on the same day and were not in pending status, but confirmed. Called the restaurant to get this straightened out. The lady (manager I was told) who I was transferred to said they were only showing 1 charge on their end for $412, and I would have to come in person to show them the statement from the bank. I asked if it was possible to email it to them. She said that I could try but it would not work. She was not very cooperative or trying to resolve the issue, but trying to get off the phone as fast as she could. She told me it was not a problem for me to drive up there as downtown was just a few minutes away. The problem is that catering was for the downtown meeting, but on daily basis I'm 40 miles away from that place. She did not want to hear any of that. I did email my statement with the explanation, but no answer. Now have to waste my time, money on fuel to hand deliver my bank statement to get my money back. Very disappointing experience and certainly going to be using different company for catering in future. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is for delivery driver. He was very polite and nice kid and I have no problem with him keeping his tip even though he got lost and was late.

It's very ok for takeout or delivery. They aren't set up for dining in. Just two tables for waiting on takeout. Fajitas themselves were ok. Not great, but not bad either. $17 for a 5oz portion. Just didn't have much flavor and the texture was a little bit mushy or mealy, like it had been reheated or held under a lamp for too long. Minor things, but it definitely wasn't worth going out of our way for it.
