This park has been glued to my mind since we left. It wasn’t too hot, despite being summer in TX, thanks to the glorious amounts of shade in each area. I loved how grounding it was to be fully immersed in nature while walking the trails, exploring the creek, or diving into the swimming hole. Others at the creek were polite and considerate, adorably sectioned off into each their own little slices of heaven. Something that especially stuck out to me was how the limestone (I think?) rock structure (forgive me, I’m no geologist) serves as a natural “built in” diving board/ladder. There’s a short cliff like ledge that hangs over the water, perfect for cannonballs. It’s mostly solid besides a couple scattered holes sitting in the perfect spots for climbing back up to the stable ground above. While it’s not particularly my kind of fun, it’s a joy watching families splash in together and climb up to do it all over again. Regrettably, we didn’t time manage well enough to spend as many hours here as I would have liked. Now that we know it’s here though, we will come back with plans, booking an entire day, at least, to explore all this park has to offer! Trails are bit hard to follow as there aren't dedicated signs to follow at all times. For example, you can start at one trail however, in the middle the trail, it will split into two ways and you just have to try both and see which one is most utilized or right way to go..however, you will not get lost as people are walking by and trails are short. You will have good view of lake and amazing pictures to take and explore. Bring atleast 3 gallons of water. Rest rooms are actively maintained and water fountain is not available. Portable restrooms are available but as you can guess, they are not that good.

When I got about halfway through, though, I saw the steep grades more and then knew it would be harder than I thought which was good. Still wasn’t terribly difficult but my legs do feel it now hours later. There are a good bit of steep grades so you will have to pick up those hammies. I kept on the outskirts of the trail and then I realized that there are off shoot trails which take you in the middle from one side to the other. I found these trails to be fun so don’t miss those. Everywhere along the trails made for great pictures. I didn’t see any wildlife or snakes (thank God) and only saw a handful of Texas Yellow Stars. There are several benches throughout so, if you do get too tired you can always stop and take a rest. The creek was nice and there was actually a good bit of stream water today. Of course, this also set up for a beautiful waterfall which I greatly enjoyed sitting and listening to for a while. Even though you can hear the cars on the highway it was still a serene hike. I tried to take a good pic of the waterfall but where you have to stand to view it or snap a pic there is a tree limb conveniently sagging which obstructs your view. Where’s my chainsaw when I need it! Lol. At the end of your hike, they have a Research Center however, they were not open for some reason.
