The San Diego Museum of Art, located in Balboa Park, recently reopened after a temporary closure. The museum offers a diverse collection of global art spanning from 3000 BC to contemporary works. Visitors can explore hidden masterpieces and pieces by 17th-century Dutch painters and printmakers. Additionally, the museum hosts special events such as lectures with the executive director discussing artwork acquisition and transformation into their collections.
Monet! Dali! Matisse! Very cool art museum located in lovely Balboa Park. Quiet, peaceful, and well-maintained space. Staff members were very kind and welcoming. Spent about an hour and a half walking through the different exhibits. They seemed to be organized by time period/country of origin. Also checked out the gift shop which had some really cool artsy stuff. Military ID gets in for free. If you appreciate the different eras of art and you’re spending the day in Balboa Park, this museum is worth a stop.

Beautiful building in Balboa Park with rotating collections of art. Their paintings include all the art masters you'd expect and some lesser known but great artists. Korean furniture exhibit was on display when we toured (it was excellent) and a room of modern art (not my thing). We spent an enjoyable 2 hours wandering the multiple levels.

The San Diego Museum of Art is a lovely attraction in Balboa Park, especially if you enjoy art and galleries. While it’s not as large or extensive as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, or the Met, it still offers a meaningful experience in a more compact setting. I spent about an hour exploring, which felt just right. Admission was $25, and since I visited on a weekday afternoon, I didn’t need to buy tickets in advance—there were no long lines, and the galleries weren’t crowded, which made it easy to enjoy the exhibits peacefully. The collection covers a variety of genres and periods, and I genuinely enjoyed walking through the exhibitions. Overall, it’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in San Diego and looking for a cultural highlight.
Debisree R — Google review
The museum is free for military members and their families. Adults are $25. You can download the app to learn more about the various paintings and artifacts. I loved the app and really enjoyed the insights it provided into the displays. A very nice way to spend an afternoon.
Kimberly — Google review
I enjoyed this Museum, of the ones I visited, the most. They had some really great works on display, and a wide range of periods/cultures/styles to check out. The Museum was fairly large with two floors of exhibits. Some are dedicated to specific artists, so only their pieces are displayed.
Zero D — Google review
Really nice museum that I wasn't expecting to spend a lot of time in. I always go to museums when I travel and this actually was a free ticket from the hotel I was staying in. I don't think I would have gone otherwise, but was pleasantly surprised. Small enough not to be overwhelming, you could easily walk through and appreciate in under an hour. I was there probably 2 hours and could have stayed longer.
Jason C — Google review
I absolutely love going to art museums wherever I travel! Highly recommend going to balboa park when you're in San Diego. There is so much culture, and it's such a big area. That you can visit and walk around to different museums and spaces. This museum is fairly smaller than others. But you can get through it in one day. The exhibits were magnificent if you're appreciative of art culture. Make sure you look up what exhibits are being displayed if you choose to attend.

Wonderful collection of Spanish and Asian art. Hours are Mon Tues Thurs Fri Sat 10-5pm closed Wend Sun 12-5pm. Located in Balboa Park there are plenty of parking spaces which provide a short walk to the Museum. Easier to visit during weekday. General admission prices for The San Diego Museum of Art are $30 for adults, $20 for seniors (65 and older), and free for youth 17 and under and current students with ID. There are also free admission days available for San Diego County residents and other special programs throughout the year

The USS Midway Museum, located at 910 North Harbor Drive in San Diego, is a renowned historic naval ship museum that attracts over 1.4 million visitors annually. This decommissioned aircraft carrier offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of America's navy through its well-preserved exhibits and activities.
What a wonderful experience on the USS Midway Museum. Definitely recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, and you may want to consider sun screen while walking up on the top deck of the ship. A lot of climbing up and down stairs and narrow corridors, low overheads. There are special places where strollers and wheelchairs are able to enjoy the tour as well. Loved being able to listen to the narrated tour on my phone using my own headphones. It was an honor being able to be on such a ship like the USS Midway. Took us two days to be able to walk through the ship in its entirety! Thankfully at the end of day one, we were advised that we were able to come back the next day at no cost, but stop by guest services on your way out to get a voucher if you plan on visiting the next day to finish your tour.

Let me start by saying I do not like museums. I LOVE this museum. I also love that they hire people and procure volunteers that are veterans so you obtain knowledge from the source. I loved their personal stories, hearing of their experiences overseas and of the carrier. I wish we had more time. The tour said 4 hours to complete. We had four hours. I wish I had four more, but we had a plane to catch. I would advise to download the parking app to pay over phone because I had to extend our time twice. I would say to stop by the Verizon table to pick up the audio tour guide that you tap at every station. Bring a water but if you forget there are vending machines and a diner on the carrier. Stop by the gift shop for memorabilia. Take the tour of the captains quarters, see if you have what it takes to be military intelligence, and tour the upper levels which requires ladder climbing so comfy tie up shoes is wise. Please come and listen to our service men and women that dedicated their lives to protect our country. They have wonderful stories to share. This museum is highly recommended.

Amazing amazing amazing!!! We visited the USS Pampanito years ago in SF and it was awesome! So we were definitely excited to see this one. Love that it gives us a small glimpse into what these guys had and went through because only they know what they saw and what they did during their time there. We walked through almost 90% of the ship but because we had our 3 younger boys we weren't able to finish the top portion. They do have a little quiz for the kids which consists of 6 questions they need to answer along the tour and at the end they get a pilot wings pin which is cute and cool. Definitely a must if you're visiting in the area. Beautiful views and the weather was perfect. During October kids do get in for free so get that deal and also I saw online that that EBT holders can get in for free(up to 4 people), its the Museum for All program so whatever the case go and visit!
A V — Google review
I had to rate this wonderful exhibit of military history and power. My Navy daughter, granddaughter, and I, thoroughly enjoyed touring this historic aircraft carrier. From the long flight deck, numerous aircraft, to the interior halls, cabins, war room, and “Top Gun” fame, this historic exhibit should not be missed. The volunteer staff was friendly and knowledgeable, answering all of my questions. We got there a little late, and did our own walking tour, rather than utilizing the audio devices. However, we will probably go back again sometime in the near future. Thank you, US Navy for your service and protection of these United States!
Mike S — Google review
It was very cool to tour this ship. The video at the beginning was top notch! There are so many volunteers eager to give information or share historic facts about the Midway. The audio devices are very helpful. They’ve done such a good job with this floating museum. Veterans get a decent discount!
Josh M — Google review
Visiting the USS Midway Museum in San Diego was one of the most moving and unforgettable experiences I’ve had. The moment you step aboard this massive aircraft carrier, you’re transported into living history — a floating city that once carried thousands of brave men and women who served our nation. Walking through the hangar deck, flight deck, and crew quarters, you don’t just see history — you feel it. Every corner tells a story of courage, innovation, and sacrifice. The volunteers, many of whom are veterans, share firsthand stories that make the ship come alive. Hearing their voices against the sound of the sea makes it emotional and deeply inspiring. Standing on the flight deck, looking out over the ocean, I could almost imagine the roar of jets taking off and the teamwork it took to run a ship like this. It’s more than a museum — it’s a tribute to the spirit of service and unity that defines America. If you’re ever in San Diego, the USS Midway Museum is an absolute must-visit. Come for the history, stay for the inspiration.
Prayank J — Google review
Everything about this experience is just amazing. The USS Midway Museum is an incredible experience that brings naval history to life! Walking around this massive aircraft carrier, you really get a sense of what it was like to live and work at sea. The flight deck is a highlight, packed with different aircraft and offering stunning views of the San Diego skyline. You can explore the ship's interior, from the sleeping quarters to the engine room, and imagine the daily routines of the crew. The docents, many of whom served on the Midway, share fascinating stories and insights that make the history even more engaging. Overall, the USS Midway Museum is educational, interactive, and a memorable adventure for anyone interested in naval aviation and maritime history. It’s a must-see if you’re in San Diego!
Rita H — Google review
The USS Midway is like embarking on a floating city. This massive aircraft carrier is a fantastic museum that brings history to life in a way that truly captivates the whole family. It's a must-do for any family visiting San Diego. Hands-On Experience: The highlights for kids (and adults!) are the numerous restored aircraft on the Flight Deck and Hangar Deck that you can actually climb into. Sitting in the cockpit of a real jet or helicopter is an unforgettable photo opportunity and a thrilling experience for aspiring pilots. Meet Real-Life Heroes: One of the mostspecial aspects of the Midway are the volunteer docents—many of whom are veterans, and some even served on the Midway! They wear yellow hats and are stationed throughout the ship, eager to share fascinating, firsthand stories that add a truly personal and educational dimension to the visit. Fantastic Views: From the open-air Flight Deck, you get stunning, panoramic views of the San Diego skyline, the Coronado Bridge, and San Diego Bay. Tips for Families Plan on 3 to 4 hours to fully explore the ship and take advantage of the activities. Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be doing a lot of walking and navigating steep, narrow staircases. (Elevators are available for many parts of the museum, and about 60% of the exhibits are wheelchair accessible).

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is a waterfront venue that offers a journey through time with its collection of restored vintage ships and historical exhibits. Visitors can explore four historic sailing ships, including the world's oldest, Star of India, and a replica of the Navy frigate HMS Surprise. The museum also features submarines, steam-powered ships, and various maritime exhibits such as model ships and vintage postcards.
The San Diego Maritime Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in maritime history or simply looking for a unique and immersive experience. With a fleet that includes historic ships like the Star of India, HMS Surprise, and even a Soviet-era submarine, the museum offers hands-on exploration and captivating exhibits. The harbor boat tours, especially the narrated Pilot Boat and tall ship sails aboard the Californian or San Salvador, are highlights, offering stunning views of the San Diego skyline and a chance to engage with the crew by raising sails or learning nautical lore. What truly sets the experience apart is the exceptional tour guide, fluent in multiple languages, she seamlessly connects with a diverse group of visitors. Her engaging storytelling, deep knowledge, and warm humor transform the tour into an unforgettable journey. Whether you’re enjoying a harbor cruise or climbing aboard a historic vessel, her guidance elevates the experience and makes the museum not just educational, but deeply enjoyable. Highly recommended for families, history lovers, and curious travelers alike.
Asanga B — Google review
Wow! We did the museum tour and added the boat ride for $10. This seriously was the highlight of our trip! The ships available to tour are very cool and the docents were friendly, knowledgeable and were happy to share the depth of their knowledge. Kiki was our tour guide on the boat ride. She is filled with knowledge and stories and spoke the whole ride. She was real and entertaining and her passion for learning, about everything, was clearly evident. Please don't hesitate to go to the Maritime Museum and add the boat trip. Hopefully Kiki will be your tour guide too! Incredible!
Lisa L — Google review
I loved the variety of things to see, riding on the boat and information shared about the development of the harbor from the docent. The kids loved the ability to touch and feel the real ropes, to go down below in the Star of India! Was a nice experience that was not outrageously priced! Worth every penny.

Stepping Into the Past: A Journey Through the Maritime Museum of San Diego Visiting the Maritime Museum of San Diego isn’t just a walk along the waterfront—it’s a full-blown voyage into history. From the moment you step aboard the Star of India, the world’s oldest active sailing ship, you’re no longer in the 21st century. You’re in the age of wind and wood, salt and canvas, where every creak of the deck and flutter of the sails whispers stories from the 18th century. ⚓ Immersive and Unforgettable The museum’s collection is astonishing—not just for its scale, but for how intimately you can explore it. You don’t just look at ships; you climb aboard them. You feel the tight quarters of a Russian submarine, marvel at the craftsmanship of Victorian-era steam yachts, and stand at the helm of vessels that once braved oceans long before GPS or radar. It’s a strange, almost surreal feeling—like your modern self is intruding on a world that ran on grit, courage, and celestial navigation. You start imagining what life was like for sailors who spent months at sea, chasing trade winds and dodging storms. And somehow, the Pacific breeze makes it all feel real. 🕰️ Time Travel, San Diego Style The museum doesn’t just preserve history—it animates it. Docents in period dress, hands-on exhibits, and even sailing excursions make the experience feel alive. You’re not just learning; you’re living it. It’s the kind of place that makes you reflect on how far we’ve come, and how much we’ve lost in the rush toward convenience. Whether you're a history buff, a curious wanderer, or someone just looking for a unique afternoon, the Maritime Museum delivers something rare: a portal to the past that’s anchored right in the heart of San Diego.
Mohamed A — Google review
Very immersible and interactive! My 7 year old loves being able to board ships from old times past and learning the history of each one. There were tour guides along the way as well that were very knowledgeable and helped assist with the education of each vessel. I would also like to note that if you have an EBT card and an ID your ticket would only be $5! It is well worth it regardless. We will definitely be back again.
Sara B — Google review
Fun museum. Good ship selection. Not too busy, easy to navigate. $50-60 for two adults. It is a self navigating tour to see historical ships, and a submarine.
Brian W — Google review
We toured The Berkeley and The Star of India. We spent about an hour looking around. Great history to check out. The ships are beautiful inside, lovely craftsmanship. I really enjoyed the upper area of the Berkeley, it is a large "waiting" room. There are bathrooms on the ships. We purchased tickets in advance, but, you can buy them there. We were there on a Tuesday afternoon (one pm-ish) and it wasn't very busy. We had parked next to the USS Midway earlier in the morning and walked over. We ran out of energy, so we didn't get to all the ships there. Definitely check the ships out.
Betsy H — Google review
Had a great time. Was so amazed at this treasure on the waterfront in San Diego. Wished it hadn’t taken me so long to visit. So many different seafaring vessels from different eras to explore as well as the history in the floating museum. Be sure to check out the only periscope view of the San Diego bay. And for any Russel Crowe fans, it was amazing to go aboard the same ship used in the film “Master and Commander” when the British Royal Navy ruled the high seas. After touring the various boats and trying our hand at sailing knots, we also took the San Diego Bay Cruise which was pleasant, though I wish there was more narration. That being said, I can’t wait to come back to do the Naval History Cruise. Definitely will come again. Thank you! (And June was lovely) 😊

The San Diego Air & Space Museum, established in 1963, is a renowned destination for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs. It houses an extensive collection of historical aircraft and spacecraft, including the iconic Spirit of St. Louis replica flown by Charles Lindbergh. As one of the top attractions in Balboa Park, the museum offers interactive exhibits that showcase the evolution of flight, along with a gift shop and grill for visitors to enjoy.
The most interesting, beautifully decorated, the historic displays and kind employees are all worth mentioning!! So many displays, put together with such care and thought. Made it an amazing site to experience!! Adding to our favorites!!!

Good, not great. If you are considering this museum and haven't visited USS Midway, just go to Midway. It is much bigger and better experience. If you have, I would still only come here as a big plane enthusiast. Just walking through without too much attention will take you about 30-minutes, probably not worth your money.

Amazing place full of history. Old to modern. Turned out way better than i thought. Spent almost 3 hrs there. Definitely go back. Fun for tge whole family.

right when you walk in there was a man who was eager to share his knowledge about all the exhibits. super friendly guy. i like how the layout takes you on a journey through the decades and there was so many interactive pieces that are fun for children and even adults. towards the end theres 2 types of simulation games, one on the computer and one in a pod. it cost 10 per person to play for 5 minutes. worth it. i was worried about parking but i came at 11am on a sunday and there were only 3 cars in the huge parking lot, we parked super far in fear of not finding good parking but even then, the walk was nice and the tram is always running. you can buy tickets online or at the counter when you walk in.

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is a great experience in Balboa Park. It’s good for all ages. Genuine aviation enthusiasts will find it a treasure of air and space information with actual icons. Families with kids will find it very entertaining with lots of kid friendly activities. The parking is free. The ticket prices have escalated over time. Plan to spend a minimum of an hour to walk-through. You could spend half a day here. This is one of the treasures of San Diego. Don’t miss spending time here.

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is a huge and amazing museum with many working models of California rail lines and landscapes. It's a great place for train enthusiasts of all ages to explore and find their passion!
This experience was just ‘wow’. Train fans or otherwise, the San Diego Railroad Museum is simply fascinating and hides Easter eggs around every corner. [ Indubitably the highlight of my Balboa Park package, even though I do not take a strong interest in railroads] Take your time in here- read the signs, look closely at the miniature scenes, whether it be people racing cars along an abandoned train track or fight scenes breaking out, the more you observe the more interesting it will get. Note that theres a small outside section too! Many people seem to skip or miss that part. This is one of those experiences that will look much more impressive in person, as photos cannot adequately capture the sense of childlike wonder that was felt within this little world. Staff were exceptionally passionate, and atmosphere was really nice.

It was pretty cool. Didn't plan on going here, but was just walking around the park and realized there's a model train museum. Although it's relatively small, it offers a really enjoyable experience. If you're into miniatures like I am, you could easily spend up to an hour admiring the details. Definitely worth a quick visit if you're in the area. Not too expensive to visit.

We had such a fun time here when we took my father-in-law, a lifelong train enthusiast, who was visiting us from another state. I was blown away by how large this place actually is and the detail that went into recreating all of the scenery. The trains weave in and out of tunnels, across bridges, and there are so many fun miniscule details in each of the scenes that make you smile or laugh (pigeons on a rooftop, prairie dogs in a field, a car accident, a wedding ceremony, etc.). They also had a couple of spots that were themed for the upcoming Halloween. Highly recommend for people of all ages!! It's underrated and surprisingly awesome.

Took a short trip to San Diego. We love to visit the Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park and enjoyed spending a least a few hours with the trains and layouts. Spanning over 27,000 square feet of trains, trestles, and tracks, there is natural beauty framed by the majestic backdrop of Balboa Park. The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is a space where imagination is beautifully engineered. It also features both indoor and outdoor exhibits and programming for all ages. The gift shop is right next to the entrance and have some great t shirts and novelty train items. The people working there are happy and always will help you with any questions or must sees (HO Gauge Wooden Bridge) there are stairs leading down to the exhibit and I heard there is wheelchair access also. upstairs is a great coffee bar which is open depending on day.
Dave J — Google review
Walking through the museum feels like stepping into little worlds built with a ton of care. The train layouts stretch across whole rooms, with tiny towns, bridges, and mountain passes that look almost real in miniature. Kids get a kick out of watching the trains roll through tunnels and over tracks, and adults end up lingering too because there is so much detail packed into every scene. It is not the flashiest place in Balboa Park but it has a charm that makes it easy to spend an afternoon here. Some displays show their age, but the effort and passion behind them is clear and that makes the visit worthwhile. It is a good stop if you are into trains, history, or just want something a little different from the bigger attractions in the park.

Super cute for children and model railroad enthusiasts. Don’t miss the drive in speaker post and looney tunes area. We used the explorer pass. Otherwise $20 for adults, $12 for Seniors, children free. June 2025.

The San Diego Zoo is a world-renowned 100-acre zoo that is home to over 12,000 rare and endangered animals from 600 different species. The lush jungle environment created by the zoo's 700,000 types of plants provides an immersive experience for visitors. One of its newest attractions is the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp, which offers interactive displays on insects, amphibians, and other wildlife along with play areas such as a giant treehouse and a splash zone.
Had a fantastic experience. Got there when they opened. Staff was very nice and eager to help or share animal facts. It's a large zoo so you can easily spend an entire day there. Tried a number of snacks and drinks and it was all delicious. If you have sensory issues, recommend going on the morning, it got pretty busy around lunch and the crowds were a little noisy. Morning is a lot easier to get a good view of the animals.

This is 100% a world class zoo. They make use of the space extremely well. There's plenty of walking to do, but they make it a wonderful experience. I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of conservation and research that they do as well. I learned all about it on the fantastic double decker bus tour, which I highly recommend. This was an experience that is second to none.

Very Fun place to go with family and friends Lots of awesome animals compared to other zoo’s. Location is great and heavy parking lot so theres never issues finding a spot! Lots of room even when packed. I have been several times where the park seems full but you never have issues seeing animals across the park due to the high volume. Animals seem to have really nice enclosures and don’t seem unhappy which is relieving for a zoo. Prices range from about $65 for children and adults are usually around $75. For a whole day pass this usually is pretty good price Military get in this location for free and can go anytime.

The San Diego Zoo is a must see on a San Diego visit! I would say it’s an all day event if you plan to see the entire zoo. I was there from 9am to 5pm! Make sure to bring your comfortable walking shoes! I would recommend taking their bus tour from the start and sitting on the to deck on the right side. You’ll see more of the attractions during the drive than the left. The bus tour is a great starting point and allows you to see a lot of the zoo and animals from a high POV! From there I recommend choosing your important must see animals and go from there! The air cable car is in the middle of the zoo and stops at the polar bear attraction so plan accordingly. Some people like to take it down at the end of their visit because you’ll end up at the entrance but there is more of a line. They do allow water bottles and food. Highly recommend drinking water as it does get hot!

The kids love the zoo and so did WE. Of course these days I feel like you have to go in October because kids under 11 are free with paid adult. We were really excited about the Pandas and that was a complete bust! You can barely see them! The highlight was the horny baboon that pleasured himself right in front of us! Explain that to the kids what he is doing! Overall it was fun and you definitely get your steps in waking the park.
Jeremy J — Google review
I visited the zoo over four years ago and noticed significant improvements and new sections have been added since my last visit. The upgrades have enhanced the overall experience, making it much better than before. One of the highlights was the convenience of valet parking. I particularly enjoyed the reptile section, which was quite impressive. However, I did have to wait nearly 30 minutes to access the Panda section, which was less than ideal, but it was worth it for my kids.

Had the best experience visiting the SD ZOO, definitely not a 1 day experience, so many beautiful animals to see. So beautiful walking thru all the green forest/bamboo. Loved the tour bus & flying thru the sky... Staff was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Able to bring in own drinks & food. Which is super helpful when bringing kids.

An absolutely amazing experience! 🐯🌿 The San Diego Zoo completely blew me away hands down one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. The layout is beautiful and super easy to navigate, the animals are clearly well cared for, and the whole place feels like a mix between an adventure park and a nature sanctuary. The staff were just just sooooo friendly, knowledgeable and amazing i never seen employees that care so much for their job and love it so much like the people in this zoo, the exhibits were clean and immersive, and there’s something new to see around every corner from playful pandas to majestic tigers and adorable koalas 🐼🦒. You can tell the zoo really prioritizes conservation and education, not just entertainment. Also, the Skyfari aerial tram was such a cool touch seeing the zoo from above was unreal! 🚡 Highly recommend spending a full day here if you can. It’s 100% worth it whether you’re with friends, family, or even solo. A true San Diego must-visit. 🌞❤️

The San Diego Natural History Museum, also known as The Nat, is a large and historic institution that showcases rotating displays on animals, dinosaurs, and earth science. Established by a group of amateur naturalists in 1874, the museum now houses an impressive collection of 8 million specimens and conducts scientific research in Southern California and the Baja California Peninsula. Visitors can explore fascinating exhibits featuring live animals, a diverse fossil collection, minerology treasures, and unique habitats of Southern California.
There so many attractions to visit that around this place that one day is not enough, as an adult i enjoyed visiting with my significant other and had a blast learning and admiring so many things about animals, they have fossils from dinosaurs to extinct species that were native from California. What i was amazed is that they have a huge living frog that I think it's about 12-15 inches long. Kids would love this place.

Visited with 5 adults on a Saturday afternoon during a Pride Parade, and it still was not too crowded. Felt the price of admission (about $25/adult) was worth the value and experience for all you get to see and learn. About 5 floors (including basement) with dedicated areas to different species. Gift shop and restrooms.

Friendly docents, incredible specimens and collections. Great for us - a couple of history lovers - but also for kids! Lots to see and touch and explore! Check out the gift shop for some beautiful sustainable trinkets and souvenirs.

Nice little natural history museum. The museum focuses on taxidermied animals, but it has a few nice dinosaur exhibits. I was impressed by their living reptile exhibits. As of 10/2025, the museum is under construction and tickets are half-priced.

Despite there being construction going on, it was still an excellent place to visit. The exhibits go through a wide range of topics, including some live animal displays, prehistoric period, modern threats to species, and science behind some of this. Very cool stuff. I strongly recommend checking it out.

We went just an hour before closing but it was such a cool experience. Understandably it is focused on children, but it is a very neat place and had a lot of things to read and experience for adults too. The area on the second floor with lights and colours was especially interesting and the gift shop had a lot of cool magnets and postcards for those who collect them or wish to send something to a loved one. Great place for anyone who has an abundance of curiosity.

Fun place to spend a few hours with kids of all ages. Everything here is hands on and interactive. A great way to pique their interest on science! There is an area designated for children under 5 that was nice to let them explore freely. 4 stars because the exhibits were somewhat worn and could use a refresh. Great place overall and great staff!

GREAT place for a few hours. My daughter is four so this is a GREAT place for her due to the Kid City on the first floor. She spent 2 out of the 3 hours here alone. It’s a 5 yr old and younger space and very interactive. I saw an earlier review state that this place is slightly worn but I didn’t think so. Well maintained and I appreciate all the sanitation stations considering everything here you touch!!

Hands foot and mouth . My child caught hands foot and mouth after our recent visit on Friday September 26th I called to inform them and they dismissed it with a single word being “okay” as a response . I highly doubt they’ll take the necessary precautions to disinfect. A team needs to be up there to disinfect every hour or so with the amount of kids who come through. Absolutely disgusting way they handled the situation .

I went on Tuesday which is free for San Diego residents to go, so took advantage of that to explore the immersive experience! I absolutley loved the display of science! A little crowded with kids under the age of 10, so beware of that😆

The Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art is a grand showcase of over 9,000 images from 850 artists. Housed in a replica of an ornate 1915 building, it is one of the first U.S. museums exclusively dedicated to photography. The collection spans various genres and techniques, including early daguerreotypes and contemporary digital works.
Second time being here and loved it both times. The Storyteller exhibit by Holly Roberts currently on display right now is amazing. This museum is a participant of NARM, so it's free for pass holders, but I'd gladly play full admission. It can take about an hour to get through the space if you show interest in most of the pieces. Well curated and appropriately lit for viewing, we enjoyed our short time here. They had a small but well stocked gift shop that had the perfect magnet to memorialize our visit. I'm actually regretting not picking up the Roberts exhibition catalog when I was there. Of course, art is subjective, so you may or may not appreciate the exhibit. I guess you'll just have to go and find out!

I would give it 4 1/2 stars only because it is so small (it took about 45 min to see it all, at a very slow pace). However, the art inside was excellent, as we were lucky to go while the Widder Collection was on, and got to see work by some of my favorite photographers, like Saul Leiter. Definitely worth your $10 (and it is free if you are a student).

We enjoyed learning about all of the textiles and how indigo came to be used in clothing, including Levi's blue jeans. There is a lovely museum store, as well. We were especially excited to see the Chihuly piece hanging in the stairwell. The picture I took does not do this piece of art the justice it deserves.

Beautiful museum and the Artifact restaurant is fantastic. We visited today for our anniversary and it was such a pleasant experience thanks to one of the docents by the name of Nancy C. My daughter was asleep in her stroller and after talking to me a bit about the exhibit, she very kindly offered to watch over her so I could explore, as my stroller had a squeaky wheel and I didn’t want to disturb other patrons. She was friendly, knowledgeable and a lovely person to speak to. Oftentimes, it’s people like her that turn a good experience in to a great one. I highly recommend. Beautiful pieces, beautiful people.

This is a fascinating museum. We have visited twice, and both times been amazed at exhibits. Paper art from Japan was pretty astounding, but in particular paper "lace" with amazing detail. The museum's restaurant was equally fabulous, with meals from many cultures. The board room features a long wood table and chairs that reflect the artistry of woodworking. This place is a visual treat and should not be missed if strolling Balboa Park. Wheelchair access was quite straightforward as well.

I was so impressed and moved be many of the exhibits. You’ll be happy you visited

I've been visiting San Diego museums all week and I have to say that this one was one of my favorites. They have a beautiful collection of hand crafted pieces that are full of fine details. What I appreciated most is how I enjoyed pretty much everything they had on display. A lot of museums I've been to were dull or only had a few cool things to look at. The curators here have great taste and I was fascinated by the variety of art this museum had offer. Downstairs had Japanese signs that are supposed to be a visual representation of the service offered (a tobacco shop sign was a giant pipe). The room next to that had some Indonesian shadow puppets on display and the amount of detail on each piece was mind-blowing. Upstairs had some nice saddles and jewelry pieces. The most stunning piece was this giant wall covered in super detailed tiles made of metal. This museum is enjoyably quiet and full of beautiful art. Definitely worth a visit.

Historical landmark
The Whaley House Museum, a classic example of mid-19th-century Greek Revival architecture, was designed by Thomas Whaley and constructed in 1857. It served as a granary, county courthouse, theater, general store, ballroom, billiard hall, school, and polling place. The house is famous for its alleged paranormal activity and has been named the most haunted house in the United States by Travel Channel.
A phenomenal show, we didn’t see any unexplained events or ghosts, but the stories from our talented and energetic guide are very believable. Having lived in San Diego for 5 years now I’m glad to have had this historic experience in the heart of bustling scene in the 1800s. We did the evening tour for a fair price, and lasted about 45 minutes. I’ll be back soon for the after hours paranormal tour!

Great staff!! Very knowledgeable. Tour guide was really good! He made it very fun. I went at 10am on a Saturday and no wait at all. When I went up the stairs I felt off, couldn't explain it, but it bothered me quite a bit. I even went back that same day and asked how they make people feel that way and of course they said they don't but that it's a common issue. Im not really someone who is an all-out believer in ghosts, although I'm not closed off to it either. I was intrigued. So, Tuesday night, i went back for the 9pm tour. The "off" feeling was so strong from outside the house that I decided not to go inside again and not do the night tour and just left, let them keep the $$ i had paid in advance. Nope. Not for me. You couldn't have paid me to go in there. I'll never forget that weird experience!

We toured the Whaley House Museum, often called one of the most haunted houses in America. While we didn’t personally get any spooky vibes, we truly enjoyed it from a historical perspective. The house itself is beautiful, with a collection of artifacts that are both educational and entertaining. The guides were fantastic—fully in character, knowledgeable, kind, and well-spoken. Their storytelling brought the history of the house to life. The surrounding town is also charming and worth exploring, adding to the overall experience. Even if you’re not into ghost stories, this is still a must-see and must-do for history lovers.

We took the night tour. The tour guide, Ghouly Julie, was amazing. We went during the Día de los Muertos festival and it was very busy. The staff did a great job with announcements to all the tourists leading up to the begin time. I would recommend getting tickets ahead of time if you plan on going while other events are taking place in Old Town. And get there way ahead of time to allow for finding parking.
Adam L — Google review
Very interesting history with this historic house to check out. Comes with a short guided tour and then you have free time to explore. There's an old cemetery within a 5 min walk to see afterwards. Then we walked right over to the Old Town to shop and eat Mexican food. Fun times!
4Giacintos — Google review
If you are into the supernatural or history this is a must. I myself did not experience anything weird (not that I know of) but have friends and have heard stories of people who have. Our orientation guide was very informative and gave us a good understanding of the history of the house. It was a little pricey (in my opinion) at $15 per person, so if you are short on time or scared of ghosts, you’ll probably be fine skipping this one.

As a local, I never do touristy things, but this was pretty interesting. Living on the water, I forgot it's nice to go inland every once in awhile to walk around with the tourists. A well rehearsed tour with some good stories. Felt slightly rushed, would have loved to linger and learn more.

This is a small 1 floor museum with an admission price of $17.50 per adult. I did not buy a ticket in advance but on a Wednesday morning there weren’t many people there. I spent about 45 mins here including shopping around the gift shop. They also have a library of books about cars if that interests you! They’ve got some great cars here , new and old but it was a quick scan. They do, however, have two cars that you can actually sit in and one employee was kind enough to take my photo for me. They are in the middle of construction so hopefully in the coming months there will be more cars there. I enjoyed myself but it was short lived. I was able to buy my nephews some vintage hot wheels cars at the gift shop and a pin. There’s a free parking lot right next to the building. This is great place for people of all ages and certainly for car lovers. Check this place out for yourself but manage your expectations.

It is a nice smaller Automotive Museum. I thought it would be bigger at first with more cars, but it seems like they swap out a majority of the cars every few months or have a different theme every few months as well. I was lucky enough to go when the collection was Ferraris which was a cool sight to see. I do wish it was a large automotive museum with more cars to see though.

Quirky yet cool. Loved to see some really good classics - there are a few good cars to see. From the red bull car to the 308/358/430/488 Ferraris the Jaguar XJ220, an alfa romeo and a few more to see. Some good ole motorcycles to round things off

super clean and easy to walk around. The staff is friendly and helpful, and there’s a nice mix of old and new cars to check out. Everything’s well set up, and there are clean bathrooms, which is always a plus. Just a chill, fun stop for anyone who likes cars. Parking was easy even though it seemed busy.We bought tickets online but you don’t have to.

Art museum
The New Children's Museum is a vibrant and modern space in downtown that encourages children to think, play, and create. It aims to nurture children's imagination and provide a platform for it to thrive. The museum offers diverse hands-on experiments in science, art, and culinary arts to enhance problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities. Through commissioned contemporary art pieces with tactile and participatory elements, the museum opens up the world of art for children by providing opportunities to observe and create.
Tip: parking is $20 and you can park until 4pm. Its underground and allows you to walk around downtown SD too because the museum allows for reentry as long as you keep your ticket for the day. Overall: great place for kids to explore and support local artists. We made a day trip to SD. Left Irvine at 10am on a weekday and got to the .museum by 11:30. Explored a bit and exited to grab lunch outside the museum. Post lunch we were back at the museum and left by 3:30 before it close and beat rush hr traffic

This is a great place to take the kids. They many activities and obstacles for the children. We enjoyed ourselves. It did get a bit overcrowded but that may have been due to the holiday weekend. The only downside is that the Air Conditioner was not working or they don't have an HVAC system. We went for labor weekend and it was very hot and humid. No A/C or good ventilation really sucks in a 3 story building.

An unforgettable birthday experience at The New Children’s Museum! We had the most wonderful time celebrating our daughter’s birthday here. Everything was truly exceptional from start to finish. Our party coordinator was incredibly professional, kind, and attentive — she stayed in touch throughout the entire process, helped with every detail, and made sure we felt completely cared for and stress-free. The celebration was beautifully organized — every element was thoughtful, warm, and full of joy. The kids were absolutely thrilled! I loved how seamless the experience was: from the initial online reservation and email communication to the final moments of the party, everything was handled with such care and professionalism. We even received a lovely surprise — a beautiful keepsake book for my daughter to remember her special day. The reserved parking space in the garage was a great touch, and I really appreciated the option to add setup, decoration, and cleanup services for a small extra fee — it made the day truly effortless for us. If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. Everything was perfect — joyful, well-organized, and full of heart. Thank you to the entire team for making this day so memorable! 💖🎉

We visited this museum while visiting San Diego and were not disappointed. Like any other children's museum, the exhibits are highly interactive (even for babies). From varying shapes, colors, tactile experience, sounds and levels of agility - there was something for everyone. Each exhibit thoroughly explained details about the artist and its intended purpose/what it is geared to teach. My 8 month old had a great time in every space - even just being around the older kids as they were able to climb more of the structures than her. We fully intend to make this a must-do any time we are in the area. If you have a fellow baby, I highly recommend arriving first thing to enjoy the "big kid" structures before it gets too packed before heading back to the infant-intended spaces. Our favorite exhibit had to be the disco room with the DJ table. The colors, shimmering textures and interactive table really grasped our full attention.

What a fun modern experimental children museum! My 8yo son visited the museum in the summer and we loved all the areas. Very creative place with sensorial activities, little secret nooks, tree house vibe, long slides and a beautiful circus play area that is a bit strange and weird but so beautiful. Special mention to the knitted cocoon to climb. I think the place is perfect for kids under 8yo but we had a lot of fun!

06-14-2025 I was here on Mass Creativity Day (free admission) with my nieces. Because it was a special event, they had fun activities/entertainment and food trucks also. Below are some of the activities in the museum that children can explore: -Wobbleland for children ages 4 and under, limit to 10 ppl at a time, no shoes allowed -Clay Studio, no age limit -Prismopolis where you can explore color and light in your city

Fun time at The New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego! Lots of fun children’s activities to play, such as slides, mazes, blocks, arts & crafts, and more. Nice little cafe if you need food or a drink. Very friendly and helpful staff. $24 for adults, then around $20 for children unless under 1 which is free. Recommend!

My family went for my sons first birthday. We thought this would be a good museum experience with some interaction. It was the opposite. This place is like a boogie Chuck E. Cheese indoor park. Basically every “exhibit” was a place for play and not a lot of learning. The staff were so robotic and bland. Our stroller was messed with so make sure you watch your stroller people like to go through other people’s things. The elevator is super small which is crazy because people have strollers which take up a lot of space. All in all we will never go there again.

Modern art museum
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) in La Jolla has recently undergone a major renovation and expansion, increasing its gallery space and adding new seaside terraces. The museum features over 200 works of contemporary art, including the retrospective exhibition 'Alexis Smith: The American Way,' showcasing the California artist's collages that comment on media and culture. MCASD also offers a boutique with museum-branded products, jewelry, fine art books, and decor items.
I loved the architecture of the museum, it was so light and airy. The pieces chosen were great to look at. I felt that everything selected corresponded with the others. I also enjoyed how you were able to go outside in the museum, the balcony overlooked the ocean and was absolutely stunning! Do not miss the room that has windows cut out to frame the palm trees outside! They have free admission on the second Sunday of every month!

I had a fantastic time visiting the museum with my boyfriend and his sister. The artwork was captivating, and the scenic setting made it even more special. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy quality time together after brunch. We all had a great time exploring the art and soaking in the beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves contemporary art! Below are a few 50mm film photos I captured during our visit:

This has been on my list of things to see for a while. So glad we finally made it. The building is massive with three floors of exhibits. Very tall ceilings and open space make it airy and the art is not crowded. The floors are numbered oddly since they go under street level...not sure if we even saw the second floor! There are restrooms tucked away down long hallways.. we needed to ask where they were. Elevators available if you don't do stairs. Gorgeous views of L Jolla!

This was my first visit. I live in San Diego, so admission was $20. Children are free. You can check the admission fee at the reception desk. The exterior is small, but the interior is spacious and has a variety of contemporary art works on display, which I enjoyed. There is also a courtyard, and the view of La Jolla is truly beautiful. The best part is that even if you go outside, you can come back in before the entrance closes. Parking is street parking only.

As an avid museum goer, this was a solid museum. There’s a lot of abstract or minimalistic here which isn’t really my favorite but all the artwork here was pretty cool! I came on a Thursday, general admission is typically $25 but one Thursday out of the month admission is FREE! There are 3 floors in the wide concrete building. It’s very accessible for all kinds of people. They have a vast array of artist on display including a WARHOL! They also have a fantastic view of the water near their sculpture garden. They also have an amazing gift shop. I saw some books I’d love to buy along with some pins from the Basiquat and Harring collection. I spent about an hour and a half here and loved and every moment of it.

This was a great gallery. They had a lot of really cool pieces. When I visited, the feature exhibit was of works by Alex Katz. I hadn't heard of him but he had some good works. The rotating permanent collection was good too.

The Museum of Contemporary in San Diego boasts an undeniably stunning location. Perched with panoramic ocean views, it's a feast for the eyes even before you step inside. The on-site restaurant is a definite highlight, offering a delightful dining experience with equally impressive vistas. If you're looking for a picturesque spot to enjoy a meal, this is it. However, the museum itself left much to be desired. While the setting is breathtaking, the art collection felt underwhelming. The variety and uniqueness of the displayed pieces were lacking, and I found myself searching for something to truly capture my attention. Furthermore, the museum felt surprisingly empty during my visit, with numerous vacant spaces, contributing to a somewhat hollow atmosphere. While the location and restaurant are strong draws, the art itself failed to deliver. Ultimately, I cannot recommend this museum as a must-see for tourists or a place I would personally revisit. If you're seeking a scenic dining experience, by all means, check out the restaurant/cafe. But for a fulfilling contemporary art experience, I would suggest exploring other cultural offerings in San Diego.

Cabrillo National Monument is a captivating destination that beautifully intertwines history and nature. This site marks the arrival of European explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542, celebrating California's rich heritage. Perched at the southern tip of Point Loma, it offers breathtaking views of San Diego’s vibrant harbor and skyline, as well as the expansive Pacific Ocean. Visitors can explore the restored Old Point Loma Lighthouse, which serves as a museum showcasing artifacts from its former keeper's life.
This is a lovely national park. There are some excellent trails. One gives a good view of the San Diego harbour. The other takes you to the tidal pools and gives you a good view of the Pacific Ocean. It's worth hiking both of them, though it can get hot. The Visitor Centre has a good educational exhibit about the Spanish arrival in the area. There is also a separate building that tells some of the military history of the area (there are several military bases in the area). Both were very informative. All things considered, I really enjoyed my trip here.
Harry B — Google review
I went there for a company hiking event. Many of the people had not been to the monument in the past so we explored the museum, the vistas, the lighthouse, and all the trails we could. We didn’t get to hear any of the doses talk about the history, but we read a lot of the information inside the museum. The weather was perfect. It was in the low 70s and there was a good cloud cover for most of the time. The parking lot is very large and can accommodate any size vehicle. The area at the monument is very large also and can accommodate a good number of people. There’s accessible parking and good way finding signage to get to each of the destinations. Our favorite part was all the trail system that we did a trail run on. Being able to see the Bayside and the beach side of the point was a really special thing. The new trail that was installed that went down to the tide. Pools was really well laid out and was not that difficult. I encourage you to bring water and snacks to enjoy on the trail and then a lunch to enjoy after your time in the parking lot or on one of the many benches along the trailsor in the park area. Make sure to take advantage of all the different areas within the park.

Incredible national park! Been here a few times even though I am not a local/Californian. Such variety to offer: great history, tidepools, great gift shop, junior ranger, lighthouse, and views of the city. Always great weather, with a nice breeze. Park film informational as well. You can often times see naval ships leaving nearby navy base as well. You will not be disappointed. Also of note is the nearby Rosecrans national cemetery. Amazing stuff there as well. The NP does require a fee, parking is plentiful, and bathrooms are great.

this was the first trail i walked in the state of california so the experience was amazing! the trail was long and one stretch of downhill/uphill walking so good shoes and water are a necessity! The view is unmatched and each step brings a new angle of the natural beauty!

Great location to soak in the pacific views and ocean breeze. You will need to go through a military installation to get here. Park rangers were super friendly and helpful. The ticket to get in is valid for 7 days. Walk in with a bike was $10.

This place is beautiful!!! We couldn't find the tide pools even though we were in the tide pool area so maybe high tide idk? But the views are amazing , the people were super nice, the visitor shop is also super cute!! Alot of history here, and beautiful hiking trails. A must see! If you have a military ID and or your America The Beautiful pass it's free :)

Absolutely stunning views of San Diego, the harbor and even Mexico. Watched jets take off. Friendly park rangers too. Unfortunately, during summer, the only times the tidal pool has a low enough tide is the extremely early low tide (4:30 am on this Aug day) and the park is closed at that time. The midday low tide was covering the tide pool by a few inches. If we came in October, we would definitely be able to see at midday. From La Jolla it was a 45 minute drive (11miles)and we paid $20 to get in.

Went on a Sunday around noon, overcast day, and little breezy. The view from there is amazing. Even though there was no sunshine, the color of the ocean looked so beautiful. Excellent spot to see the city, and if you like airplanes, you can have a good time just watching them take off and landing. I didn't have the rim me but I wish I could have hiked on the trails. Definitely will do in another visit.

The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad is a unique museum that celebrates the history and significance of the music products industry. It showcases the evolution of music from early 1900s marches and rags to today's cross-cultural expressions. The museum features galleries with outstanding examples of musical instruments displayed in vintage music store settings, along with audio and video clips of familiar tunes. Visitors can enjoy hands-on opportunities to play various instruments and learn about the innovative growth of the music industry over the years.
Small museum displaying everything from vintage to modern musical instruments. Fun interactive screens to learn all about the history and making of the prices in each section. They have some cool instruments that I've never heard of before, so I learned something. Nice staff. Cute gift shop.

This is a small but mighty museum. The musician in your family will love this place. The volunteers are knowledgeable and show pride in the museum. They will tell you everything or let you wander on your own. We had the best of both. The instruments and equipment are well taken care of. The hands-on displays were fun, and the lounge! I highly recommend you take your musician there.

Small museum, but packed with fun and interesting things to see and do! Definitely worth the trip if you're into music. I'm a synth nerd and learned a lot of new info at the ARP exhibit. The whole thing is really well put together. We spent 1.5 hours here and went to every exhibit and watched most of the videos on the info screens. I'd say give it 1 hour minimum, 2 hours max. Very cool place. We were there on a Friday late morning and nearly had it to ourselves. Highly recommended!

The Museum of Making Music was an incredible experience—one of the best museum visits I’ve ever had. It blends history with hands-on interaction in a way that makes it both fun and memorable. I’ve played a few instruments before, but I’ve always dreamed of trying a theremin, and I finally got the chance here. What makes this place stand out is that nothing feels off-limits—you’re encouraged to explore and actually play the instruments. It’s the perfect spot to get inspired, whether you’ve always wanted to try music or you’re already a musician. Don’t get me wrong there are displays you cannot touch. I definitely recommend adding it to your San Diego visit. It’s right next to Legoland, which makes it an easy stop if you’re already in the area.

We had a blast!!! I brought my mom and kids here, and we had so much fun learning and interacting with the amazing instruments. The playhouse's mission is to present cutting-edge performances while providing opportunities for performers from diverse backgrounds. Its calendar features a wide array of remarkable productions, including musicals, dance shows, and live theater performances.

We just attended the third performance of the world premiere of “Heart” at the LJP. The 24 hours in the death and life that accompanies the tragic loss of a beloved 19 year old San Diego surfer son who suffers fatal injuries in a car crash coming home after catching some waves at Tourmaline Beach one morning. Followed by the new chance for life his death brings to a 50 year old mom who’s life is almost lost after waiting 3 years for a heart transplant donor. No dry eyes for this theater goer when the boy’s estranged parents struggle with the loss of their son and the decision to donate his organs and when the moment arrives for the heart transplant and the donor boy and the donee mom meet and interact with one another. Thought provoking and very realistic. As usual for the La Jolla Playhouse this musical is very well produced and technically flawless. Choreographed by the same woman who choreographed the Eras Tour. Very well paced and acted - the 80 minute performance with no intermission flew by. We saw the the third performance of this original world premiere which was so well written and well rehearsed it could have been the 300th performance! Two 👍👍thumbs up … way up!! A perfect date night with my perfect date. ❤️😎❤️

Fantastic world-class theater in San Diego. See shows before they premiere on Broadway, world premieres, new works developed by the Playhouse, and new productions of existing shows. I took myself to celebrate my birthday. I got up Sunday morning and called the public transport travel guide number to plan a trip to the theater. I wanted to see the play at a matinee showing (I don't like being out after dark). I heard the box office offers reduced tickets to seniors for seats left empty 60 minutes before showtime! I purchased a seat for $45. It was 3rd row and middle seat (due to a season ticket holder's impromptu cancelation). The day was perfect, and the staff was very welcoming. The show was entertaining, and the public transport was seamless to get me there and back before nightfall. It doesn't get much better than this for a celebration of 76 trips around the sun! ✔️💯🔥✝️😁

The Timken Museum of Art, located in Balboa Park, is a small yet remarkable museum showcasing European paintings, bronze sculptures, and 17th-century tapestries. With its mid-century southern California modernism design by architect John Mock, the museum offers free admission to visitors. The collection includes works from American, Italian, French, Flemish and Spanish old masters that were once part of the Putnam sisters' collection.
We stumbled upon this museum and decided to go in because of the free entry. WOW!!! It’s incredible. They have such beautiful art, and much of it is extremely old. They even have a Rembrandt! Each work had a very detailed and informative plaque, which often shared both information about the artist and the art and what it represents. It was shocking how amazing this free museum is. Definitely worth making a donation to them! And they had a piano player who was extremely talented and happened to be blind. Highly recommend a visit here! Such a gem.

The Timken Museum of Art was my first stop in San Diego. It was a nice little gallery. Some of the works were more religious, while others were more typical Renaissance works. Admission is free, so you should definitely visit.

The Timken Museum of Art highlights San Diego's culture. This gem of an art Museum is located in Balboa Park, a perfect setting for an art museum. The Timken is free and ideal for school field trips. For our field trip, the docent shared both the history and technique of art, which draws you into the world of art. Our docent shared that painters expressed their subtle humor in their paintings. In many of the portraits, the subject were not smiling. How come? They suffered dental issues. The Timken has many paintings that cover a wide range of styles: still life, portrait, and land scape. If you are looking to enjoy San Diego culture, then step through the doors of the Timken Museum of Art.

This is a Free Admission small museum in the park. I came on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn’t crowded. It has two sections with a couple of painting from different time periods and different countries. I bought an enamel pin from the gift shop for $7(including a round up donation to the museum). There’s a number of benches in case you just want to escape the heat and sit in a nice quiet area. There is music playing lowly but overall it’s pretty quiet. It’s not super kid friendly since it’s a small museum for art lovers you’ll enjoy the quick escape from the heat and bustle of Balboa park. Definitely check it out and support your local museums!

A free art museum in the heart of San Diego! Small-sized art museum. Mainly filled with Renaissance paintings. They are alright, not many but a good few, but Europe would have a larger collection and better pieces. I don't have any idea where else in San Diego you could find more of these classical art, so, if you want a taste of it, while being in Balboa Park, feel free to drop by, free entry. Most of the paintings are collections from the Putnam Foundation, I have not looked into them, just putting it out there if someone has anything against them.

Absolutely one of the best aquariums in the world! It's not the largest, but the variety is breath taking. Each display is FILLED (nicely) with different specimens. I can't label the photos I've included and are but a few that I took. One could literally spend an hour, or an afternoon with each display. The setting of the Birch is beautiful in itself. The place is specifically child friendly. The help is ready to help direct, to answer questions or just chat. The whole family loved it even the 3 year old. A great place to take young kids. This is one of the nicest aquariums I have been to. There is a lot to see and interact with and takes about 1-2 hours to go through it all. The Birch Aquarium is absolutely perfect for toddlers! We took our little one recently, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Everything is so well designed for young kids, from the colorful exhibits and interactive touch tanks to the open spaces where they can safely explore and learn. The staff is incredibly kind and patient, always taking time to explain things and make sure the kids are having fun. The outdoor tide pool area was a huge hit. Our toddler loved watching the fish and sea stars up close, and the ocean view from up there is just beautiful. It’s the perfect mix of fun, education, and family-friendly atmosphere. Lots of interactive sections for the little, s wonderful penguin experience, and a can’t miss octopus makes this a great place to visit. Free parking lot for 3 hours as well. Small cafe just outside the entrance and a lovely gift shop round out the experience.

I went to the virtual aquarium for shark summer days and I was so happy to see so many children learning about the ocean and loving on the sea creatures, places like this are so important for our future, the staff maintains the aquarium in pristine condition and the animals look healthy, there’s a lot of informative signs and places to stop and admire the encounters, I spent a lot of time watching the turtle, and wondering about the kelp encounter, it is spot on. I was also thankful for the tide pools with lots of urchins and sea stars and shark eggs. This is a must for the summer or when you just wanna take the kids to do something with both of you can be equally admiring the encounters.

The Old Globe is a historic theater that has been showcasing Shakespeare plays, classic musicals, and new productions for nearly a century. It features three unique theaters within the Simon Edison Centre for the Performing Arts: the Old Globe Theatre, the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, and the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. The venue offers an immersive experience of Shakespearean times with its simple stage design.
Shakespeare's "All's well that ends well" Great show... all seats in out door venue are great... center stage is best.... acting was great and very well preformed..... suggest to order your INTERMISSION drinks at the beginning of show, so you don't have to wait in line. Bathrooms, clean and well stocked

This theater is great. Pretty good viewing from all seats. This last time, I sat in the front row. I recommend a couple back. All the shows are excellent with talented casts. We have made a family tradition out of seeing The Grinch. Just saw, Noises Off last night and it was Fantastic.
Diann M — Google review
The last production we saw was Deceived, based on the 1938 play "Gaslight", which gives us "gaslight" in modern speech. The play was humorous. and the set was exactly right for the play. The female lead and the head maid gave standout performances. The theater in the round has an intimate atmosphere and there is no bad seat in the house. We have never been disappointed with a play at the Old Globe.

I've been going to theater for over 20 years in Los Angeles. I've moved to San Diego thinking I won't experience the same experience. The Old Globe theater is top notch, and a extreamly intimate venue. I can't wait to see my next show there.

Saw Huzzah! with my husband on September 13th for my birthday. What a great show! The acting and singing is excellent, the costumes and set were fantastic and it was overall one of the best stage shows I've seen in a long time. Highly recommended!

A beautiful and easy layout. The outer courtyard offer a wide selection of beverages and snacks. Entering for a show is pretty quick and organized. You can bring beverages in it seems also. It seems that 85% of the seating is fairly great as the theatre is medium size. Many ushers to help guide you to seats. There are booster seats about 5 inches lift to help your little ones. There are a hard black plastic though, just a heads up. They have convenient restrooms near by and often photo opportunity areas. Currently they have a Who style Christmas tree that lights at 445. A wonderful Grinch show for our 4 year old and highly recommend taking kids and yourself to it.

Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, founded in 1769, is the first Roman Catholic mission in California. It holds the title of 'Mother of the Missions' and is a significant landmark showcasing Spanish Colonial influence on Southern California's settlement. The mission's picturesque grounds are open for self-guided tours daily from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm.
The first californian mission founded by St. Junipero Serra. A wonderful and calm place, full of history. The Basilica is beautiful, the cell/house of the first friars is very interesting, convent and gardens are very nice. They also have a lovely museum and great souvenir shop. I'm so happy for visiting this place.

As someone who grew up in California and remembers the whole missions projects and had a field trip to a mission it was great to return to one over a decade later. So here is what you should know: Ticket price: $8.00 (Tickets can be purchased in person) Restrooms: Yes they have restrooms and yes they are clean. Parking: There’s plenty, I’d say mostly because it’s hardly ever full (at least when I’ve gone) Staff is friendly, there’s a gift shop mostly with religious pieces but also things like postcards and such. Atmosphere is nice and peaceful regardless of whether you’re in the church, the garden, the museum, etc. If you like history, art, and spirituality then this place is perfect because it blends those things wonderfully. They have a lovely garden with sculptures, plenty of art, and much history to read about and witness for yourself.

A rustic but beautifully appointed Mission in the heart of Mission Valley. The main sanctuary is beautiful with brown, copper hues all around. The grounds around the church are full of information and immaculate. There's a lovely fountain in the middle of the grounds which brings the visitor a wonderful sense of serenity. No problem with parking; lovely place to walk.

Beautiful Mission! This is the first Mission in California. Lots of history and plenty of information. Self guided tour was free. We got a map in the gift shop. The Alter in the main Church was beautiful. The museum had some great artifacts and information. Definitely recommended if you are in the area.

4th mission church in California - Mission San Diego de Alcalá 🙏🏻 California’s first mission was founded on July 16, 1769 by Saint Junípero Serra, a Franciscan priest. The Mission was relocated to the present site in 1774 in order to be closer to the American Indian (Kumeyaay) villages, a reliable source of water and good land for farming.

Nestled in the heart of Balboa Park, the Spanish Village Art Center is a vibrant and enchanting destination that art enthusiasts simply cannot miss. This charming complex, designed in 1935 to evoke the essence of a quaint Spanish village for the California Pacific International Exposition, features an array of colorful buildings housing over 200 local artisans. Visitors can explore various studios showcasing unique works from painters, sculptors, jewelry designers, and more.
Really cool art place with multiple art studios and super talented, creative artists. I really like that they create their art on site and you can see artwork in the making! Got some really neat and unique jewelry, while supporting local artists! * I didn't actually get any pictures in the art area, these pictures are just right before going

Beautiful! Filled with colors, art, and plenty of things to keep you interested. Very photogenic! Loved browsing all the talented artists' displays, enjoyed some drinks from the coffee truck, and took lots of photos. Free activity - spent about 30-45 minutes walking through on a Saturday during Pride Parade, and it wasn't too overcrowded.

This place is a must visit! The Spanish Village Art Center is a vibrant spot in the middle of downtown San Diego that houses an eclectic mix of art studios, shops, and unique trinkets. It’s easily identifiable from its multi-colored stones, and colorful shops scattered about. There is also a cute coffee cart at the back of the village, which has a nice variety of unique drinks to choose from. I got the lavender chai, which I definitely recommend! It was fun to just walk around and explore each store; you can easily spend a whole afternoon there. You can take the cutest pictures there too. Definitely check this place out!!

Always a must. Here every other week, nine months a year from Burlingame, South Park. Love the art, the coffee, cool breezy vibes, and kitchy coo coo; local art and amenities. I get paintings, pens, mugs, framed art, table art, jewlery art, and prints galore. Very relaxing, parking is pretty good and the environs are just wonderful. RJ

The park is absolutely beautiful; however, weekend traffic can be overwhelming. We spent an hour searching for a parking spot, so be prepared for this if you plan to visit on the weekend. Once we arrived, we loved the park—its architecture, flowers, and restaurants are stunning.

I’m so glad we decided to check this out in San Diego. I absolutely love this art plaza. There were an endless amount of art pieces displayed and to buy at a very reasonable price. There’s also a bit of food, drinks, and snack options, and all the people who work there seem to be happily at service. It’s great to visit this plaza at the Balboa Park, but I would say it’s maybe a ‘one and done’ type of visit unless you love art. I would also like to note that there’s tables, chairs and a decent amount of seating area if you were just wanting to stay and relax.

The Comic-Con Museum in San Diego offers a year-round celebration of pop culture, providing an opportunity to experience the excitement of Comic-Con beyond the annual event. Founded as an extension of the iconic convention, this museum features exhibitions, classes, activities, and movie screenings for fans to come together and share their love for comics, TV shows, films, video games, anime and books. Visitors can explore outstanding comic art and culture while meeting favorite creators and publishers.
Got in free (Second Tuesday of every month for SD residents) ***If you're paying to get in I'd suggest you check what exhibitions are currently on display as there can only be about 3-4 and they rotate every 6-12mo*** Upstairs:Lucha Libre- I thought this was cool but I've got Mexican heritage and love history so I really enjoyed myself. Second floor:Dr Who we didn't pay for this extra exhibit bc I don't watch it 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it looked cool if you watch that show. Third floor: cosplay outfits were great and Tokidoki- which I loooove, very kawaii of you're into that. You can walk from there straight over to the Air& space museum also free second Tuesdays 😁 FOR KIDS: We saw lots of stuff for kids; live Superheroe storytelling, color your own Lucha libre mask, piece together your own comic, and an anime cinema playing dragon ballz.
Pumpkin P — Google review
We went specifically for the Doctor Who exhibit. If you’re a fan, it’s worth it. Lots of props and costumes, audio and video and some interactive elements. When we were there, one of the levels was closed so there was only the main exhibit and a few things to see on the bottom floor. Given that, it was very expensive overall. Would have liked more gift shop options. Unless you’re highly interested in a specific exhibit or you catch a promotion, this may be skip. They offered a scavenger hunt for the kids with a prize. Our prize was a small poster. Scavenger hunt was either written clues or a photo version.
Erica V — Google review
It's fun, but $30 for adults is way too high of a price. It's a relatively small museum with a handful of exhibits and a gift shop. The Doctor Who exhibit was good and I took my time walking through that (it took up an entire level) but the other exhibits were very small. It took me less than 1.5 hours to walk through, which I've heard from other people. If adult admission was $20 I would have rated it higher, but $30 is too much for how small of a museum it is.
Laura I — Google review
The only thing worth the wait was the Dr. Who exhibit which is on loan from the BBC for a year. I'm not sure what the overpriced tickets are funding cause it's clearly not the layout or set up from the exhibits. It feels like they don't treat the stuff with respect ans kinda just throw it up with disorganization and printed out placards.
Cheyenne K — Google review
Walked in here after a visit to the air and space museum. If you're going here, do check with display is featured. That will save you a disappointment if you're not a big fan of what's featured. Try the scavenger hunt to make it more fun. During my visit a Doctor Who exhibit was featured, which was very impressive, but I'm not a particular fan. The top floor featured some luchador history, and the bottom floor featured fan made costumes from Comic-Con. Really wished that part of the museum was bigger. Great gift shop.
Dutch D — Google review
If you love Doctor Who, Mexican wrestling, tokidoki, & Luann (yes, that Luann), then this is the place for you! At least right now. However, if you love superheros, then stay away ❌️❌️❌️ . . . The fact that the 3 floors of this Comic-Con "museum" doesn't currently have a single comic book on display, and they make no effort whatsoever to inform you of that, should legally constitute as fraud, & entitle any visitor to a full refund of their entrance fee upon request. Just sayin' 😎
Andrew C — Google review
I went to the museum on Tuesday for free residents day. I'm a huge Tokidoki fan so I had to go checkout the exhibit. It was amazing. I highly recommend to go on the free day. It's $30 admission which I think is pricey as it's not that big of a museum.

Bread & Salt is a former bread factory in San Diego's Logan Heights, now transformed into an expansive art gallery and experimental center for the arts. With 45,000 square feet of space, it hosts visual arts, performances, educational events, and artists-in-residence. The focus is on international artists and eclectic events. While appointments are required for visits, the effort is worthwhile to experience this community-focused hub of creativity in San Diego's art scene.
I love this place. Bread & Salt Art Gallery turns into an Improv Musical Jam session on Tuesday nights. A very HOMEY feeling with very friendly performers & patrons. Balboa Park is a true San Diego treasure, and every visit confirms why it's a world-class destination. It’s more than just a park; it's a breathtaking escape that combines stunning architecture, lush gardens, and phenomenal museums into one unforgettable experience. You could easily spend an entire day—or an entire week—and still not see everything. We spent our day strolling along the Prado, captivated by the ornate Spanish Colonial architecture that transports you back in time. The gardens are a sensory delight, from the serene Japanese Friendship Garden to the vibrant blooms in the Rose Garden. The Botanical Building is a must-see, with its towering wood lath structure and beautiful koi pond. The best part? So much of this beauty is completely free to enjoy. For museum lovers, the options are endless. We visited the San Diego Museum of Art and were thoroughly impressed with the collection, but you could just as easily lose yourself in the Fleet Science Center or the Museum of Us. The options mean there's something for every interest and every age. Now, for those complaining about parking: 😡stop being lazy and get there early like everyone else. We arrived around 9 a.m. and found a great spot in the free Inspiration Point lot with no hassle. If you're not an early riser, there's a free tram service that will get you where you need to go. The park is massive, and a little planning goes a long way. Don't let your own poor planning diminish this incredible experience for others with a one star review😡😤. In short, Balboa Park is an absolute gem. The atmosphere is vibrant and inspiring, the grounds are immaculate, and the variety of things to do is unmatched. This is a five star experience from start to finish, and we can’t wait to go back.

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is an open-air museum that showcases life in the 1800s, featuring adobe buildings and interpretive performances. It commemorates the history and culture of San Diego from 1820 to 1870, encompassing the transition from Mexican to American rule. The park, established in 1968, is a living history museum with numerous historic buildings and is considered the birthplace of California.
A piece of invaluable Mexican and American culture. It’s a huge city by itself with lots of Mexican restaurants and eateries around. One needs to spend at least 2hr here roaming around the entire old town. Free parking available in Parking Lot A, B, C and D around the state park for 4hrs. Restrooms, parks, picnic spots all available within the park.

Petco Park, opened in 2004, is a prominent outdoor stadium that hosts seasonal sporting events and concerts. While dogs are technically not allowed inside the stadium, Petco Park has hosted numerous dog-friendly events, including special game days like Dog Days of Summer and features The Barkyard with semi-private dog-friendly viewing sections for Padres home games.
This park is an exceptional experience! It’s now in my top 5 ballparks. There’s something for everyone, and more. I recommend going early to get a good look around the park before it fills in. There are plenty of food options and seating everywhere, so you can people-watch while you eat. There’s also a lot of staff to help you find washrooms and take great photos of the park and the surrounding areas. Kids can play on the playground and on the miniature baseball field. The outfield seating is also very good, allowing you to be within talking distance of the players.

One of my favourite ball parks that we have been coming to for over 10 years. Amazing views of the city and lots of good options for food and drink. Came for a Padres v Dodgers Friday night game this time and it didn’t disappoint. The small wine place across from the Lexus Lounge was great. Very easy to get served, which was a challenge in the lounge itself. Friday night games are the best as the crowd is loud and engaged. Padres fans are have always been friendly when we visit and everyone had a nice time.

Great park. Been to like 40 different baseball parks (current and retired ones). This is one of the best! Amazing setting. Great views of the city. Interesting features inside like the Padres HOF. They were having Hispanic Heritage weekend when I went in late September. Definite playoff vibe as well with Mariachi band (they played the national anthem - never heard that before) and Latina dancers and sitting room seats in outfield. Super fun.

This has to be one of the better MLB stadiums I have been to. It was easy to get to and find parking for. The employees were friendly and nice, and it was fun seeing the fans get into the game and cheer for the Padres. The food in and around the stadium were also good. I look forward to being able to come back to see another MLB game here when I'm able to.

This review is all about Petco Park itself, not the Padres—though I’ll always bleed blue for my team! This stadium easily ranks in my top four. The views, the electric vibe, and the food make it a standout. The highlight? The famous Seaside Market Tri-Tip Nachos (aka Cardiff Crack nachos). These are an absolute must-try—loaded with juicy, slow-smoked tri-tip, nacho cheese, BBQ sauce, sour cream, and green onions. They’re so YUM, even a traditionalist like me, who lives for ballpark hot dogs, happily deviates for these. Trust me, they’re worth it! Escaping triple-digit Arizona heat for a game at Petco each season is a highlight. The back-and-forth rivalry cheers in the stands create an unmatched atmosphere. From the stunning views to the incredible food, Petco Park delivers an unforgettable baseball experience. Can’t wait to return next season!

Great stadium, fantastic area, great staff and service, and had a great time! I got the steak nachos, which were fine, but could have used hot sauce or salsa. One bottle of soda was $7…pricey. Great viewing area with large screen!

9/6/25 Parking is a zoo so come early for dinner and so you can check out the merchandise. On Saturday, we parked at the Hard Rock Hotel and paid @$90 for valet plus tip. The park is clean and has lots of meal options. The people who worked there were friendly and helpful. I didn't have to wait in line for a bathroom! So nice! I'd suggest hanging out for a bit because there is so much traffic after the event, no need to rush. Overall, a good experience. I'd bring my comfy walking shoes because you'll be walking to get there and up lots of stairs. (There are elevators.) Pro tips- don't get the mixed drinks, stick with the beer on level 1. I had the rum and pineapple juice drink and it was watery. Also, make sure to have a plastic bag.

This is a great place to watch a baseball game. Good concessions options, although just about anything you buy is going to be very expensive. Easily reached from the metro trolley system on blue, orange, or green lines. I was impressed that they had staff passing around concessions guide flyers as I entered to park so you know where to look for the best dining options.

We visited Nike, which was about a 10 min wait to get inside. Plan to stay a day that way, you get through all the stores. Good amount of parking.

Huge outlet. Lots of stores especially sports & perfume. Some good deals but you need to look. Unfortunately they didn't have an Eddie Bauer store. Food court playgrounds were scattered around as well as seating areas for the husbands. At the front of the outlets there were 4 Mexican food trucks. We ate lunch there. The Birria food truck especially had good prices and the food was delicious. But I'm sure they were all good.

Outdoor mall near the Mexican border... We enjoyed shopping here! The free parking and convenient restroom are much appreciated! We didn't have time to peruse the Food Court. I visited SKETCHERS (got 2 pairs of shoes) and The Last Chance Store (Amazon returns). My cousins got work shoes and clothing. Prices were reasonable and service was okay! We'll be back if we're in the area again!

It’s been years since I’ve been at this place. So many more shops, so many more options. We came on a Saturday around 1:30 pm. The place was buzzing, parking lot was crowded as expected, but you can find a spot, people are always coming in and out. Very well kept. Definitely worth the drive every once in a while, especially if you are coming from Orange County like we are. Prices are ok. Somethings are cheaper, some others are at the same price as your local shops. Good way to spend a few hours here walking around, browsing the stores, grabbing a bite, etc.

I recently visited Las Americas Premium Outlets, conveniently located right next to the Mexico border, and it was an excellent shopping experience! The outlet features a wide variety of shops, offering everything from high-end brands to popular retailers, making it easy to find something for everyone. The outlets are spacious and well-organized, allowing for a comfortable shopping experience. I was impressed by the selection of stores and the great deals available. It's a fantastic place to spend a day shopping, especially if you're looking for quality items at discounted prices. Overall, I highly recommend Las Americas Premium Outlets for anyone in the area or crossing the border. Whether you're a local or a visitor, you’re sure to find some amazing bargains!

Big, open mall at a walking distance from pedweast cross border. They have a lot of stores in different blocks, you have to use your phone map to locate stores. They have a couple of coffee shops and restaurants. The restrooms are not many and have to walk around to find them.

I love this mall, i’ve been visiting since I was 2 and lived in Baja California, years have passed and even though i moved back to Mexico City, everytime i go to California i always come here, it has a variety of stores (my favorite are Sephora, H&m, Ulta Beauty and Zara) and discounts are amazing too :D!!

Visited this outlet while returning from San Diego trip during day time. It’s located very close by US - Mexico border. The outlet has almost all brands and spread across very big area. It also has kids playing area which was helpful for me to keep kids busy while rest of family is shopping. It was difficult to find the stores, there should be a map of outlet available to help shoppers which was missing, hence 4 stars.

Housed in a grand 1915 building, the Museum of Us, formerly known as the San Diego Museum of Man, is dedicated to challenging colonialism and honoring the Kumeyaay Nation. Through diverse cultural perspectives and collaborations with indigenous communities, it aims to foster human connection and self-reflection. The museum's iconic dome and tower make it a standout in Balboa Park. It offers unique event spaces like St.
Very interesting museum. I particularly enjoyed the PostSecret exhibit, Egypt exhibit and one about animals and humans. Plus you should check out the Cannibal Museum next door (included in your entry)! Neither are huge but they are interesting and the museum does an excellent job honoring the artifacts and the cultures they came from. I wished the signage had been a bit more clear and descriptive about what you were looking at in exhibitions. Buying admission into the separate museums at the park does get pricey, but I felt the individual ticket price was reasonable. It would be nice if there were one discounted pass you could buy for entry into all the museums or a few of them.

I went here this past Tuesday which was resident free entry into the museum. It is a month of July so it was packed with kids and their parents or going with some type of camp. Although I still had a great experience visiting the museum! There's a lot to see and I really like how they exhibits were structured. And made it feel a lot less busy than it actually was. There's a lot of amazing history, best reference through my photos, highly recommend it if you are visiting Balboa Park to stop by.
Marjon F — Google review
Some exhibits were good when it came to the cultural history like the Mayans, local native American and Egyptian displays. Many of the real artifacts were given back to the nation's they were from. The left side of the museum has become far left ideology like the name change from museum of man to museum of us. The cannibal exhibit was interesting in a Ripley's believe it or not style theme and feel. Definitely do the tower tour. Lots of great san diego history taught dating back to about 1915. The tour guide we had was knowledgeable, energetic and so sweet. She made our day.

We went today as the one thing I wanted to do on my daughter's birthday trip. She was not enthused to go to museum but she LOVED it and so did I! It was fascinating and has something for everyone from beer to Mayans to border crossing to Hapa to race. Our favorites were the Race, Hapa, and Post Secret exhibits. The cannibalism exhibit was awesome and I loved the interactive sections. Also the staff were sweet and helpful and let me charge my mobility scooter. Totally recommend!!
Celeste A — Google review
The museum had some interesting exhibits, the first upon entering is a display explaining why they changed the name from Museum of Man to Museum of Us. Every exhibit seemed to have two segments, one celebrating ancient civilizations, and cultures, and the other half demonizing European and American civilization. I had expected a bit more "history of humankind" and less "here is an entire wing about race relations in America". Across the street is a much smaller museum about cannibalism, which if you buy a ticket to one they let you go to the other as well. The cannibalism exhibits were interesting, though they again spent a large portion of the museum telling you "Europeans did bad things, and also cannibalism" with only a few small mentions of other groups, several of which they specify were not likely cannibals but labeled as such by Europeans. This part of the museum was a bit more interactive, with a few displays for you to touch, and some "game" displays. For the ~$20 to get into both, I'd say it's worth it to check out the displays if you're already here. Wouldn't go out of my way to check these in particular out though.

This used to be called the museum of man. Very educational exhibits. Free entrance for e.b.t card holders. You also recieve a recipt dot the cannibal exhibit across the street as well as in and out privileges. It was cool to see the Egypt tombs/coffins. The museum of myth and reality cannibals exhibition is a must see.

The University of California San Diego is home to the striking Geisel Library, designed by architect William Periera in 1965. The library's unique design has drawn comparisons to a standing tree or an alien spaceship, blending brutalist and futuristic elements. Additionally, the university campus features the Stuart Collection, which includes 20 large public art installations such as Fallen Star by Do Ho Suh and Sun God by Niki de Saint Phalle.
Proud to get my MS and BS in CS here. Food on campus is terrible. Prices are too high. Rents are high. Parking is awful. But I love the faculty and peers. Neither best nor worst memories in life. Moving on.

I recently visited UC San Diego and was truly impressed by the campus’s modern design, coastal beauty, and welcoming atmosphere. Nestled near the Pacific Ocean, the university offers a peaceful yet stimulating environment perfect for learning and exploration. I spoke with several students who shared how much they appreciated the supportive faculty and the strong emphasis on research and innovation. The diverse range of academic programs and interdisciplinary opportunities stood out as a major strength. Walking through the campus, I also noticed a strong sense of community and collaboration among students. Overall, my visit to UCSD gave me a deep appreciation for its academic excellence and vibrant, forward-thinking culture.

UCSD is a really beautiful campus set on the hills in La Jolla, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I’m serious, it’s amazing !The professors really do care about reaching each student and giving them the knowledge needed to be successful but the real feather in the UCSD cap is the RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES EVEN FOR FRESHMAN STUDENTS ! Great school, dedicated profs, Gorgeous campus, amazing diverse restaurants on campus, smart hardworking students and fabulous research opportunities. What more can you ask from a university ?? This place is Awesome.
Ted R — Google review
UCSD is intense, yes — but it’s transparent, professional, and genuinely student-focused. People here don’t just pretend to care — they actually help. I’ve met faculty who answer questions without ego, and peers who collaborate without backstabbing. That’s a sharp contrast to what I experienced at UC Davis, where there was a constant undercurrent of politics, fake friendliness, and silent pressure. If you didn’t play the game or flatter the right people, you were frozen out. Being independent or different at UC Davis felt like a liability. At UCSD, it feels like a strength. The difference is night and day. UCSD challenges you to grow. UC Davis challenges you to survive toxic dynamics. UC Davis wants prestige. UCSD earns respect. Let me be blunt: I do not want some dirt on my cloth so prefer to switch the cloth any way

A wonderful environment to spend a day, even if you are not a student at UCSD. There is incredible architecture all around (hop on a campus tour if one is leaving soon). There are plenty of places to lounge around - indoor or outdoor. Make sure you visit Geisel library, great building and you want a pic with Dr. Seuss. Relive your youth here. :)

Leo Carrillo Historic Park, a 19th-century hacienda nestled in a meticulously landscaped park, is home to numerous wild peacocks. Founded by actor and preservationist Leo Carillo in the 1980s, it serves as an educational site for California's history. Visitors can take self-guided walking tours to learn about native plants, explore historic landmarks, and admire Spanish architecture at the Hacienda compound.
A true hidden gem. Seeped in history and serenity. Huge grounds for meandering around and lots of shaded areas for a relaxing picnic. Park volunteers are very knowledgeable and friendly. We got a nice tour of the structures and stables. Also spotted 3 peacocks strutting about.
Sunita V — Google review
Such a beautiful place to visit. So big and so much to see. I love all the plants too. There was a lot of spots blocked off and closed. There’s also wasn’t any peacocks to see which was disappointing.
Melissa B — Google review
A cute little historic ranch with some ties to old Hollywood. You can go inside most of the small adobes, take a short nature walk and see some wild peacocks on the grounds. There wre also pecial events, such as classic movie nights, which are free with reservations.
Jessica G — Google review
Their upkeep on the grounds is excellent both the landscaping and the housing. It's amazing you can walk around these grounds for free.

Do not miss this beautiful, well preserved ranch! You could easily spend 2+ hours here. Very popular for class field trips. Since there is a dirt parking lot (with at least 4 handicap spaces) they do close after heavy rains. Best to call ahead to see if they are open. Numerous clean, modern restrooms. Paths for wheelchairs are clearly marked. Areas for picnics are available to reserve, too. There are some elevation changes but manageable for most. Don't miss!
James B — Google review
It was fun to see the wild peacocks that hang out at this park, and learn the history of Leo Carillo and how this actor used this ranch as a second home to get away from Hollywood in the 1930s and beyond.
Bob K — Google review
I didn't see a single peacock here. This place is on tightly-packed dirt, so your shoes and the bottom of your pants will get dirty. You can see the historic home of the original owner, but sadly, you cannot go inside as they are locked and closed. You only see them from the outside. There is nothing to do here other than walk under the sun (hardly any shade), and that's it. They do have nice, clean bathrooms. I wouldn't recommend this place. Definitely not a fun place for kids, either, in my opinion. You can walk through this whole place in 15 minutes. The best part, for me, was seeing the plants.
Alex — Google review
Always enjoyed our visit here at the ranch! We started visiting in 2020 when the pandemic started. The ranch is spacious and open. This provides ample of distance between our family and others. There are many benches and tables for people to have a picnic and kids to run around. It was fun and educational to walk around and see the architecture of the houses. The best time to visit is March to June. One can hear and see wild peacocks in the ranch. Local residents may not like to hear them because the peacocks are really loud during mating season but it is a joy to many to see the beautiful birds. Did I say that these are wild birds? Please don’t feed the birds and respect their space!!!

Mission Trails Regional Park, often referred to as the third jewel of San Diego's park system, is an expansive 8,000-acre recreational area located just eight miles from downtown. The park offers over 60 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails that cater to all skill levels. Visitors can also enjoy boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding on Lake Murray or camping at Kumeyaay Lake.
Beautiful, well cared-for trails and habitat. The porta-potty was surprisingly gross, considering all the obvious attention given to the surroundings.

My toddler boys have been on so many different hikes but this remains at the top of their list! We love the visitor center which has an interactive museum attached to it where you can learn about the Kumeyaay people and the rich natural history of the area. We love all of the different trails which are kid friendly with mostly flat terrain and some climbing opportunities and even a creek to cool off in. The trails are also dog friendly, with a water station and a dog parking post in front of the visitors center. But be careful on hot days with both furry friends and kids who can get easily over heated. There is some poison oak on the trails so educate yourself on what that is and make sure your kids are careful too. There is an overflow lot if you can’t find parking here on the weekends or when they are hosting a free event

Mission Trails is one of San Diego’s hidden gems. It’s the perfect spot to disconnect without driving too far from the city. The trails are well-marked, with options ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes that give you a great workout. The views from Cowles Mountain or North Fortuna are stunning, especially at sunset. I love that you can choose different vibes here—hills, canyons, even the San Diego River running through some trails. It feels safe, there are always people hiking, running, or biking, but it never feels overcrowded. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat since some areas don’t have shade, but overall, this place is absolutely worth it. A must if you want nature, exercise, and amazing views right in the city.

I hiked from the park entrance to the peaks of two mountains. It took about three hours. The nature was diverse and beautiful. The endless vistas were truly soul-soothing. The trail varied: at times rocky, sometimes crossed by streams, and occasionally a steep mountain path. So, make sure to wear hiking boots. With a racing heart, I stood at a steep cliff, taking in the incredible beauty. You'll occasionally meet other hikers on the route, so if something happens, there will be help. I hiked in the heat, so make sure to bring plenty of water.

The theater boasts a nearly 3,000-person capacity and has hosted an array of events.
Blippi show was a great show the theater is very nice... seating is nice and spacious.. the interior of the seats somewhat needs to be a tad updated...staff very nice and helpful ....bathrooms very clean they just didn't have any changing tables for the LO. They also have water stations to fill up your water .I will take that a note for next time...Easy and accessible for the concession stands. The prices on things was pretty up there just like everywhere else...Overall it was completely comfortable and we enjoyed the show!!

I haven't been to the Civic Theater in a couple of years. The staff was wonderful and helpful! The theater itself was clean and comfortable and was the perfect venue for the show we saw. My only complaint is that the outside of the theater and the surrounding walkways are old and in enough disrepair that it's borderline hazardous. But once your inside the theater, its wonderful!

Always enjoy going to the theater, however, this theater is past it's prime... the interior is dated, dirty, and worn looking. I understand they also generate revenue by selling alcohol and snacks and as a consumer I understand I pay a premium at these events but they should have more reasonable prices overall. Same items, different San Diego venue are at least 20 percent less expensive, tack in cost of tickets, surcharges, and parking... adds up quickly

I love the San Diego Civic Theatre! I have been to a handful of shows there and it never disappoints. The view is great regardless of where you sit. The lobby and bathrooms are controlled chaos. What a great theater to see a show! The aisles are wide enough to get comfortably by with only a minor amount of squeezing when someone is seated. It was easy to see the stage because the seats are well spaced and there was enough slope in the floor. We stayed at a hotel in walking distance so that made parking easy. The sound was great. You could hear everything the actors said, which sometimes can be a real problem for my husband.

Marston House, located in San Diego's renowned Balboa Park, is a prime representation of the Arts and Crafts architectural movement. Constructed in 1905 by esteemed architects William Hubbard and Irving Gill, this historical landmark showcases the shift in California's architectural style during that era. The house is adorned with period furniture and pottery, offering visitors a glimpse into the early 20th-century lifestyle of San Diego civic leader George Marston.
This house was built in 1905 and preserved in Balboa Park. I took the tour and the guide walked us through each room of the house. I learned about how George Marston opened a department store and built his fortune. His family were philanthropists and made many contributions to the city of San Diego. I highly recommend visiting this site if you're a fan of history, architecture, or politics.

Our tour guide at this site was one of the most knowledgeable gentleman on the many historical sights we've visited over the years. We loved the architecture, listening and reading the informational material during the tour. I loved the fact that Mr Marston probably started the concept of fragrance identity in his department stores. You know- when you step into Macy's blindfolded - you know exactly where you are. Forward thinking department store businessman who had babysitting services in the basement of his stores so his customers could leisurely shop. So many philanthropic projects that shaped San Diego. Take this tour to broaden your horizons about this city.

The Balboa Theatre, located in downtown San Diego, is a beautifully restored 1924 movie palace that hosts a variety of live performances in its 1,300-seat theater. After being closed for over two decades, the theater underwent a $26.5 million renovation funded by the City of San Diego's Redevelopment Agency and now stands as a state-of-the-art music venue.
Saw the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain here. The theater was wonderful and seats roomy. I didn't feel like I was crammed into a small space. The sound was good, as was the lighting.

Beautiful concert venue! To save on parking, we parked in the neighborhood above Little Italy and walked about 20 minutes down to the venue. It was way less stressful than trying to find a parking spot downtown! Our concert started at 8:00pm and even though the ticket distributor recommended arriving at 7:00, we walked up to security around 7:45 and there was no line, no wait, and a super easy walk up to our seats. The staff and security kept walkways clear and flow of traffic smooth. Our seats were way up in the nosebleeds but we didn’t mind! The sound quality was still great and we had a wonderful time. If you are sensitive to loud noise/heavy bass, bring a pair of ear plugs because it gets LOUD! Bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. We thought getting out from the very top balcony of the venue would take forever, but with the many exit options, it only took about 20 minutes to get outside. Great work Balboa Theater team! We hope to visit this venue again sometime soon.

This is a great old theater in downtown San Diego. We have seen a couple of different performances here. The acoustics are good and the seats are comfortable. The only problem is that the lobby is too small and everyone gets jammed in there at intermission.
Michael S — Google review
I was here for an evening with Fran Lebowitz. It was my first time at the theatre. Staff was very friendly. The theatre itself is very nice and clean. Seating is a little cramped but true to its period that the theatre was built. I had the option of purchasing discounted parking next to the theatre when purchasing my ticket. I do recommend it. The parking structure is a little unkept in comparison to others in the area but it is very close. I frequent the area frequently and the parking structure is heavily trafficked so there’s an added sense of security with so many people around. If you have a chance to catch an act that you’re interested in at the Balboa I recommend it.

Chicano Park is a public park located beneath the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, known for its vibrant and colorful murals. Established in 1971 after community efforts to save it from becoming a highway patrol outpost, the park now boasts 80 murals depicting prominent Latinx historical figures, Aztec and Mayan designs, and the founding of Mexico City. Led by Salvador Torres, Hispanic artists transformed the area into a canvas that showcases rich heritage through art.
Very interesting part of the history of San Diego and the Chicano movement. This is an open air museum that tells a story of migration, cultural traditions, the people struggle for their rights and the search for a better life. The colourful murals drawn on the pillars of the bridge are the perfect medium to communicate a story that spans two countries. More bridges of hope need to be painted and less walls of ignominy need to be built.

I've learned about this place during some classes at the university and Chicano Park was one of the main reasons I visited San Diego. What a beautiful, remarkable place! Murals tell so much about the Chicano culture and are a testament to its heritage. Definitely a must-visit!

I drove right through Chicano Park by accident and ended up finding a really cool bookstore, Libélula, where they encouraged me to go and spend some time down there. She told me that the bridges and freeway were built right through and over their community and that the park created around and including it was rich with culture and color. I am SO glad I went back and walked around so I could appreciate its beauty. I was alone and never once felt unsafe. I walked up to some of the little shops after and really enjoyed Barrio Logan more than any place I visited in San Diego. Great people, can’t wait to go back!

If you like art and urban interesting places, you’ll love this gem of a place. Located under the bridge between San Diego and Coronado island, it holds over 70 murals painted directly on the cement pillars and on some of the structures near by. Bright, vibrant colors, and very cool designs that will make you go “WOW” more than once! Parking in the area is ample and there’s even a small area right next to the place. Bring you phone or camera because you will want to take photos!

It was awesome to finally visit this historic park! We were passing by on the freeway when we spot it and decided to exit and visit it. Im pretty sure when an event is happening it must be an amazing experience at Chicano Park. Wished there wasn't so many homeless hanging around but it is what it is. It didn't take away from how amazing and beautiful the Art is around the park. Definitely a place to visit

"Chicano Park is a historic park located in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego, California. It is known for its large collection of murals painted on the freeway pillars underneath the Coronado Bridge. The park has a rich cultural history and is considered a symbol of Chicano activism and community pride. Visitors to Chicano Park can enjoy the vibrant murals, picnic areas, playgrounds, and various community events held throughout the year. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists interested in Chicano culture and art." At my visit, you do see few people walking around with beer, so I would suggest sticking around during the day times.

hicano Park is a park located beneath the San Diego–Coronado Bridge in Barrio Logan, a predominantly Chicano or Mexican American and Mexican-migrant community in central San Diego, California. The park is home to the country's largest collection of outdoor murals, as well as various sculptures, earthworks, and an architectural piece dedicated to the cultural heritage of the community. The park was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016. Chicano Park was the result of a militant (but nonviolent) people's land takeover. Every year on April 22 the community celebrates the anniversary of the park's takeover with a celebration called Chicano Park Day. The park opens daily from 6 am to 10pm

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Old Town, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is a stunning testament to history and faith. Completed in 1917, this beautiful church stands on the site where California's first Catholic Mass was celebrated back in 1602 by Captain Sebastian Vizcaino and his priests. Originally marked by a simple tent for their gratitude service, it has evolved from an adobe structure built in 1851 into a welcoming sanctuary that invites visitors from all walks of life.
The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Town San Diego is a stunning piece of history and faith. Completed in 1917, the church was built on the site of California’s first Catholic parish, which dates back to the late 18th century when Father Junípero Serra established the Mission San Diego de Alcalá nearby. The church is a beautiful example of Spanish Revival architecture, with its whitewashed walls, red-tiled roof, and an iconic bell tower that stands as a beacon of San Diego’s Catholic heritage. Inside, the church exudes a sense of peace and reverence, featuring stained-glass windows and intricate woodwork. As the spiritual heart of Old Town, it continues to serve as a place of worship and community gathering. It’s a quiet reminder of the city’s rich cultural and spiritual roots.

This is a beautiful church. It's not huge but it was nice to visit. It is located next to the Old Town San Diego historical part, so is partially educational. But it is also an active church.

As a professional photographer for over 12 years doing event photography I was booked to do a communion at this church, before agreeing I asked the client to check if they allow photographers as many churches do not for this event. The client was told it was ok. When I arrived I checked in with the ladies running the church and asked if there was any rules or places to avoid. The only spot was the alter area which is typical. The ladies introduced me to their photographer for the event and I let her know I would stay out of her way out of respect. From almost the start the other photographer would go out of her way to tell me I couldn't stand in places, grabbing my arm and pulling me etc. Over a 45 minute period I went to the other side of church twice both time using the side walkways and walking all the way to the back of the church to cross over not getting in anyone's way. During the second time the other photographer again grabbed my arm and I told her bluntly to stop touching me. She told me I was causing a disturbance by crossing the church and wanted me to leave. One of the ladies who gave me the rules was next to her and I asked to talk to her off to the side. She obviously took the others side and asked me for proof I was allowed to shoot the event despite having no problem 30 minutes before.. I was told I had to sit with the client and shoot from there. I have never been so disrespected on a shoot, I will not be along further jobs here

This humble Catholic Church is rich with history, right in the the heart of Old Town and dare to say is likely more frequented by tourists than locals, it's foundation stone was placed in 1868 and it was the first church built in California outside of the mission system.

I saw La Lucha here and loved it! I was visiting San Diego for work and wanted to do something different. I thought I’d also be able to check out the museum before the experience, but the various rooms in La Lucha took up the whole museum. It was really well done and I totally enjoyed it.

Nice small space situated inside the rear of the Santa Fe Depot. Admission is only $10 and free under 25. Currently you can go across the street to their annex and get FREE tickets (not sure why or how long but it is directly kitty corner to the south). Docent was extremely helpful. Stop by Stone brewing just a block to north after!!

Really small place, we got lucky because we happened to go on a free day so that's really all that made it worth it. I think it also depends on what exhibits are there when you go to make it worth while. I'm assuming a lot of the bad ratings went out of their way to go here but I was already in the area. You can go on their website to see what exhibits are up and more likely than not you can go through the Instagram tag and see recent photos. It's nice place if it was always free.

Super super small museum. It’s actually only exhibition. Two very small salons with two artists artworks were open only. Not sure if they have more salons and they were closed or they don’t have any more salon at all.

Fascinating. The giant sphere alone will fascinate you. You must have an appreciation for art no matter what the medium is or somehow see what the ARTIST envisions. So do not go my recommendations, BUT do go with an open mind.

Wow! Small but mighty! Beautiful, powerful artwork. I went with my 24 year old niece and we both enjoyed it.

I have a love/hate relationship with contemporary art. Some of it looks like a 5 year old could replicate it, some looks like the 'artist' is trying to fool the general public into believing that bits of wood standing up is an art installation. But then there is the genuinely talented artists too. It's very subjective. This gallery is located right next to the Sante Fe Train Station downtown which is a cool location. The building itself is art. It's well lit and well displayed.

La Casa de Estudillo, constructed in 1827 by Jose Antonio Estudillo and his father, Jose Maria Estudillo, stands as a testament to San Diego's rich history. This grand adobe home was the residence of the Estudillo family until 1887 and is renowned for its connection to Helen Hunt Jackson's novel 'Ramona.' In 1910, sugar magnate John D.
La Casa de Estudillo in Old Town San Diego is one of the most significant historic landmarks in California. Built in 1827 by Captain José María de Estudillo, a prominent military leader and early settler, this large adobe home is a stunning example of Spanish Colonial architecture. The house was designed as a hacienda-style courtyard residence and quickly became a social, political, and religious hub for the growing community. Spanning 13 rooms surrounding a central courtyard, La Casa de Estudillo was not only a private home but also served as a place of hospitality, hosting prominent figures and events. Over the years, it gained legendary status as the "Ramona Marriage Place," thanks to the popular 19th-century novel Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson, which romanticized the lifestyle of early Californians. Today, the home is a museum that allows visitors to step back in time and experience life in early 19th-century San Diego. The rooms are furnished with period-appropriate pieces, and the lush courtyard garden reflects the beauty and utility of early California homes. Managed as part of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, La Casa de Estudillo is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone curious about San Diego’s vibrant past. It’s an immersive and educational experience that connects visitors to the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Great spot right at the heart of San Diego Old Town. The place showcases life in 1800s and paints the picture of how population and civilization bloomed in beautiful San Diego. Great piece of history of early colonizers of San Diego.

Wonderful little museum located in Old San Diego. While everything is not original, it is all accurate for the period. There are alters, a small little church gathering place, restored bedrooms, the dining room, and the kitchen facilities. In addition there's also immaculately kept. It only takes about 15 minutes to see it all but it's definitely worth the time.
Casch52 — Google review
One of the largest structures in old town San Diego worth exploring. This former house has been well laid out to take you back in time on what it was like back in the 1800s. There is a great timeline of the family who lives there, as well as many unique items that are on display. Two of the rooms we found most interesting were the office/study and the formal dining room. The latter of which you don't invesion in a west coast setting and something you see more back east.

Del Mar Fairgrounds is a popular destination in Del Mar, hosting various events throughout the year, including the San Diego County Fair and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club horse racing seasons. The fair features a changing theme each year, offering an array of attractions and activities for families to enjoy. Visitors can indulge in carnival rides, unique fair food, and special events during this almost month-long extravaganza. The expansive grounds provide ample space for entertainment, from thrilling rides to diverse food options.
The Del Mar Fair is a three-week long county-wide event. Includes your typical Fair exhibits and exotic food vendors. It is very expensive and the weather can get pretty hot towards the end of June. I was disappointed this year with the exhibits; especially the Flower Hall. There is no cash accepted, so bring your debit, credit or Paypal/Vendor. General parking is $20 and preferred is $55. There are several alternative parking options where you can catch a free shuttle to the fair...a much better option.

We had been attended the fair for 4yrs and it always nice. The displays were real nice as were the animal exihibits. The food was over priced, but always delicious. I recommend to buy everything in advance like parking, entrance admission and ride tickets, you’ll save some money. I got my package at Costco for 4 people, general parking, coupon pamphlet and 40 ride tickets at $99. And get early in the morning so you have more time and less crowds on the rides. ;)

I went to the fair to see Live and Collective Soul and had a blast. The floor seats were great. There was tons of space to dance. The bathrooms were clean. The food court was wild and the rides were off the hook! I highly recommend going to the fair!

This is my first time at the famous San Diego County fair. It was so much fun exploring it with a group of friends. This is one of the places that you should visit with friends. I am all for solo activities ( I go to movies by myself, etc ), but this is so much more fun with a group. Especially if you have friends that are "in the know". Lucky me. I could never figure out where to find these hidden gems as a first timer. We visited two unique Speakeasies. Each one is charming and with awesome views. Especially the "Destination Unknown" bar. The price for drinks are hefty but it is worth it. The waitress was super sweet and attentive. Top notched! I didn't find any interesting/enticing food to eat but it is all for the best, saving calories. I had onion rings, it was not that great. Corn, it was sweet and a good buy. My friend ordered a sandwich from the Greek restaurant and she gave them a thumb up. The highlight of the day was the photography exhibition. I can easily spent a couple of hours appreciate all the talents. I am actually debating if I should go back again this year just for that. I visited on a weekend so it is not crowded. Easy parking. I was told that weekend is super crowded and "stressful". I am glad that I visited on a week end for my first time. I will make it my yearly event. Love love love!

Same thing evey year. Lots of sights, exhibits and great displays. Hard to appreciate the cool themes and sights when your raging from the HORRIBLE traffic. Also things get lost with the chaos of food vendors. Games and rides will easily cost you a car payment (or two), so load up the card because most dont want cash.

Prices were much higher than usual this year. Almost $20 for gyro sandwich. $20 for turkey leg. $23 for double patty burger. And none of these include drinks. You can get 2 sikh koobideh at Sufi much cheaper! Also not as many people this year - attendees AND vendors. It was so easy to find parking AND leave. These photos were taken throughout the day on a Saturday between open and 6pm. Didn’t feel the same.

Located in Solana Beach, just a short drive from San Diego, the Belly Up Tavern has been a staple of the local music scene since 1974. With a capacity of 600, it offers an intimate yet lively setting for a diverse range of acts, from reggae legends to contemporary indie rock artists. Adjacent to the venue is the Wild Note Cafe, providing concert-goers with an opportunity to grab a bite before the show.
An amazing venue. Located in the beautiful coastal town of Solana Beach, CA. Top notch sound, friendly staff, excellent beverage options. The interior is gorgeous. Very clean, well designed and maintained. Seating is available, but sells out quickly. The general admission floor section is cool though. Stay at the nearby Holiday Inn Express, a lovely 15 minute walk away from the venue. Solana Beach is lovely, very safe. Lots of nice restaurants and shopping options. Go to the beach, have a nice meal, go to the Belly Up and have a few drinks and a rocking good time. Make a weekend out of it. I highly recommend. Happy Trails!

I finally got to Belly Up and for a "first timer" it didn't disappoint! I'm grateful to my friend, who had been before, for knowing how to get the best seats. There are only a few seats available, and if you're not quick, you may end up standing. The band was good, George Throrogood & the Destroyers, the food was good, the service was very good and the drinks were OK, but expensive. Parking is free but minimal. Overall, I was impressed and would not hesitate to return.
Kasada L — Google review
Okay. I'm gonna get letters. If I could, I would give this venue 2 1/2 stars. This is for General Admission, by the way. The parking was easy enough when I got there an hour early. Say just over 100 yards to the back of the line. The line, eventually, was longer in back than I was to the front, so fine. Getting in, I quickly found that the, "No guarantee of a seat", on my ticket was prophetically true. VIP members get first dibs on seating, so, maybe, two hours early? Also, don't expect that eating next door will be your gateway to an early admission; not on a sellout. Expect to be standing for the entire show. I was grateful for my spot against a pillar and some row seating. I had AC at that spot as well. Hey, viewing is good from everywhere, so there is that. About the show in relation to the venue; here's where it falls apart for me. I need to remember IT'S A CLUB. Full bar, and it looks like food can be ordered as well (seat specific, I'm sure). The talking around me was distracting at times when quiet was called for and the music loses out sometimes. It does sound okay otherwise. There it is. Hey, I'm glad the Belly Up has been here as long as it has. Goodness. It was there when I lived nearby almost 50 years ago. Kudos to them. The most important things to know are to wear comfortable shoes, and pick shows that work well in a club-like setting.
