Azuki Sushi Lounge is a modern Japanese restaurant located in Bankers Hill, within walking distance of several popular neighborhoods. The lounge offers carefully sourced Japanese fare, including creative rolls and an extensive sake menu. With an executive chef boasting over 30 years of experience, the restaurant prides itself on high-quality sushi made from fresh ingredients and modern preparation techniques. Whether you're in the mood for seafood or other Japanese delights, Azuki Sushi Lounge is a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike.
A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Every dish was delicious especially the uni on the daily special which was absolutely worth trying. The pork was also full of flavor. The only downside was the service. One female staff member wearing a small cap was super friendly and attentive, but the rest of the team felt a bit distant as if they didn’t want to be approached. A little more energy and engagement from the staff would definitely enhance the experience.

My husband and I have only been here twice because we're from out of town, but after the first time, we were already hooked. The fish is such good quality. We haven't been to Japan, but I can only imagine that it mirrors the quality! It's so delicious and fresh. Also, we love the cocktails. Both times, we ordered the Yuzu Collins. It's just a great drink.

We sat outside on the patio which was just a sidewalk with tables. People just crowded around the sidewalk. The server was nice. The sushi cuts were generous but not amazing. The clam miso soup was surprisingly delicious.

Whenever I visit my daughter in San Diego, I make the point to make a dinner reservation at Azuki Sushi Lounge. The Kobe roll alone is worth the trip! Tonight we dined in the second floor dining room. It was much more comfortable than the breezy street seating we experienced our first visit. I had the Kobe and the Bonzai this time. My daughter, unagi fan that she is, had the Super California. The Bonzai features shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, asparagus and has the crunchy contrast of crispy taro slices and crispy sweet potato slices on top. The Kobe was as delicious as I remembered; black tiger prawn, avocado, tempura onion, topped with seared wagyu. Another excellent meal at Azuki Sushi Lounge!

If you’re lucky enough to make it off the sidewalk and actually speak to a hostess, you might get the privilege of spending more than 12 minutes ordering before last call. We had a reservation for two at 8:45 PM and weren’t seated until 9:25 — nearly 40 minutes of standing outside without so much as a greeting. Let me be clear: the fish quality at Azuki is exceptional — on par with Michelin-level establishments I’ve had the pleasure of dining at. And that’s exactly why this experience was so disappointing. Once we were finally seated, our server rushed us through the entire meal. Every dish arrived almost simultaneously, creating more stress than enjoyment. Even the basics were mishandled — miso soup, traditionally served at the start of the meal, arrived as our third or fourth course. The service felt careless and chaotic, completely undermining the sophistication of the food. We were essentially forced to speed-eat a high-end sushi dinner in under 30 minutes — not exactly the anniversary evening I had in mind. I left with an angry date and a bad taste in my mouth, and it wasn’t from the fish. Azuki, you have the product — now match it with service that respects the food and your guests’ time. Until then, I can’t in good faith recommend this place to anyone.
Alec V — Google review
Fresh flavorful straightforward sushi place. Modern clean decor. Attentive staff and friendly sushi chefs. Would recommend sitting at the sushi bar to order straight from chefs. My favorites were the wagu and salmon. For dessert a stuffed banana with red bean and black sesame ice cream.
Ashley C — Google review
Very Fresh and Delicious Sashimi! Their signature rolls are scrumptious! Service was friendly and efficient. The only negative experience were flies flying around while we were dining which were a bit annoying. Otherwise, great spot!
J W — Google review
Grabbed dinner her with a friend. We had a reservation and sat at the sushi bar. Food and cocktails were solid (dessert was mediocre) but service severely lacking. You order your sushi from the sushi chef and drinks and other food from a server. Both the chef and server were cold and unenthusiastic. Neither checked on us during our meal despite us ordering drinks and three courses. I ordered a nigiri set and the chef didn’t even bother to tell me what fish I was being served - I had to ask. I also had to ask for them to clear our plates so we didn’t have to eat our desert on top of our soy sauce. They weren’t extremely busy nor did they seem understaffed. Not really worth returning for the price.

Sushi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Sushi Ota is a Japanese restaurant located in a modest strip mall in Pacific Beach, San Diego. Despite its unassuming exterior, it is widely regarded as one of the best sushi spots in the area. The chef-owned establishment offers premium sushi and omakase tastings, showcasing fresh and locally sourced fish with uni being a standout ingredient.
Sushi Ota is clearly one of the most popular sushi spots in town, and for good reason. The restaurant has a refined, intimate atmosphere. Reservation is highly recommended as they get very busy and usually has a wait line. All the sushi chefs are Japanese, which adds a level of authenticity and tradition that’s reflected in both the preparation and presentation of the food. Service here is top notch! Friendly, attentive, and professional. The presentation of each dish is elegant, and the quality of the fish is great. With that said, I found the prices to be significantly higher than other sushi restaurants, in some cases nearly double. While the food is definitely high quality, I personally felt that the overall value didn’t quite justify the cost. I’m not here to bash the place. I’m just giving my honest perspective. I know what great sushi tastes like, and while Sushi Ota delivers in many areas, the price to quality ratio left me a bit underwhelmed. Still, it was an amazing experience, and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking to enjoy authentic sushi in a more upscale setting. Just be prepared for the premium pricing.

I can hardly conjure words befitting of such a perfect establishment. Hands-down, the most meticulously crafted sushi my husband and I have had in the States. We are foodies, and love to seek the best-o-the-best and happily found ourselves here, sitting at the sushi bar, being served by the INCREDIBLE Head Chef, Yoko! We were there celebrating our 11th marriage anniversary and are truly grateful for such an awe-inspiring experience! Every single dish was absolute perfection. Seemingly simple but you know there is an immense amount of care that goes into each piece you savor. Even our hostess was perfect in every way. The attention to detail, the care, the kindness, and hospitality exuded with genuine pride, by all the staff. We seriously can't wait to come back. I love this place. It's a wonderful gift to those who come. Please do!

I was really excited about this place. My dear fiancée and I chose Sushi Ota as our last date night before our wedding, and the fish was fresh, but so was our disappoinment. Read on, my fellow Google Maps wanderer. Atmosphere Nice but not 'I absolutely need to dress up' nice. This is a good date night spot, and I don't know if I'd rather a friend here. Good for up to 4 people, but if it's one-on-one, it might feel romantic. Is that what you want? Romance? Service Good. Not amazing, not awful. Good, to the extent that you don't think about it much, which may be ideal. Food Started off with three assorted tempura, which was a good choice. It was two shrimp, two green beans, a sweet potato, a zucchini, and an onion. Also had the spicy tuna on eggplant tempura. Good, with a generous portion of spicy tuna. I got the deluxe chirashi. The fish was good, but the rice was a little hard and the unagi was chewy. Disappointing. Recommend? I hesitate to.
Justin S — Google review
Sushi Ota is our go-to spot for high-quality sushi when we’re in the San Diego area. During our last trip in June, we made sure to include this restaurant in our dinner plans, and it definitely did not disappoint! We tend to order a lot of nigiri here, as the cuts are always fresh, with many pieces featuring extra-long slices of fish that drape over the rice. On this visit, we ordered three servings of scallop (hotate) nigiri and several other duplicates. I always make a point to order ama ebi, one of my favorites. This time, we took an Uber to fully enjoy their excellent selection of sake, which isn’t readily available at many places we visit in Arizona. We enjoyed a bottle with dinner, which elevated the entire meal. If you love sushi and don’t mind splurging, the bill here can add up quickly. However, having dined at many sushi restaurants, Sushi Ota stands out as a top choice and is well worth the premium price.
Javi C — Google review
Sushi Ota still the best food ever!!!! Every bite is like heaven, the ingredients quality simply excellent. Everyone is super friendly, they receive us with a big smile. Make a Reservation in advance. Each option on the menu is a good choice. I came the first time 15(ish) years ago, you will always leave with a happy smile of good food and happy tummy. The ambience is beautiful, nice and warm. For us, it worth the 3 hours drive to SD!
Lolita F — Google review
Absolutely amazing sushi experience. Start off with the calamari, which was end of itself one of the best parts in the meal. Then got the clam miso soup, which actually had a great clam flavor. And got the Nigiri plus the upgraded California roll with the Alaskan King crab, which is an absolute must. Also got the crispy salmon rolls, which were fantastic, but with the rest of the meal was actually the low point, but only because the rest of the meal was phenomenal. Was not quite as expensive as I expected to be either. This is a must if you are in San Diego.
Michael W — Google review
So good so fresh. Seeing from outside you can’t say how amazing this place is, everything is so clean, fresh and amazing. Price is very fair for the quality they serve. You must try it but make sure to make your reservation they’re always busy.
Camila F — Google review
One-liner: hole in the wall japanese restaurant with true Japanese sushi chefs who serve some of the best sushi I’ve ever tasted Parking: very small lot shared with multiple stores so try parking on the streets nearby or behind the behind the building Atmosphere: unassuming store front but once you walk in you are transported to a nice but not intimidating Japanese restaurant Service: very attentive and accommodating Food: - appetizer: calamari has a light crisp but with so much flavor. I highly recommend it - deluxe chirashi bowl: includes toro besides a variety of other dishes and roe. I order it every time I go. - snow crab California roll: real snow crab. Great for those wanting to try sushi but prefer not to eat raw fish. It is also a must to try - teriyaki chicken: simple plating with juicy chicken in a light teriyaki sauce. If you cannot eat raw stuff this can work but the highlight of this place is their raw foods Tip: want to try this place without breaking the bank, try their lunch special on the days (which is not everyday) when they are open for lunch.

Sushi restaurant
Sushi Tadokoro is a cozy and intimate restaurant located in Old Town, San Diego. The venue offers traditional Edo-mae-style sushi, showcasing the skills of Chef Takeaki Tadokoro and young chef Tatsuro Tsuchiya. Known for its attention to detail, the restaurant prides itself on homemade sauces and fresh fish delivered from Japan with remarkable speed.
Sushi Tadokoro offers one of San Diego’s most authentic and refined sushi experiences. Located in Mission Hills in a modest, intimate setting, the restaurant impresses with beautifully prepared sushi and sashimi crafted by skilled chefs who honor traditional techniques. The fish is consistently fresh, delicate, and of exceptional quality. Attentive and knowledgeable service enhances the dining experience, making it perfect for sushi purists or those seeking genuine Japanese cuisine.

Upon entering, it was immediately apparent that this establishment would be a delightful experience. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly hostess and promptly seated. The owner and chef were exceptionally personable and well-informed. The cuisine was simply outstanding, featuring incredibly fresh ingredients. I highly recommend the Umi and the Eel, though everything on the menu is certainly worth exploring. I fully intend to return to this hidden treasure.
Rich H — Google review
Sushi Tadakoro offers the freshest sushi in town — truly deserving of its Michelin recognition. The service is top-notch, attentive, and warm from start to finish. We started with perfectly seasoned edamame and a crisp, light tempura set — both beautifully prepared and a great way to begin the meal. For the main course, we ordered the T, K, S sashimi set (Tuna, Kampachi, and Salmon), and every piece was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and expertly sliced. The fatty tuna sushi melted in our mouths, while the Kampachi, Tuna, and Salmon sashimi showcased incredible texture and balance. The hot green tea paired perfectly with the meal, and the hot sake was outstanding — smooth and aromatic. We finished with their homemade Shiratama-Zenzai dessert, the perfect sweet ending to an exceptional dining experience. Overall, Sushi Tadakoro delivers a perfect combination of quality, craftsmanship, and hospitality. Definitely worth a visit — and well deserving of its Michelin award. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

there are several popular sushi restaurants in SD but when it comes to sushi, i like mine traditional and exceptional… and edo period style sushi is my jam. after reading through reviews on google, and comparing them against instagram and website reviews (its like studying for an exam!) ive decided if i only have one meal for sushi it has to be at Sushi Tadokoro. I WASNT DISAPPOINTED. and im a big sushi snob. ordered the lunch sushi omakase and was blown away. at US$165 per pax, this was way more affordable than the S$350 pricetag i pay for sushi back home in singapore. my highlight: live spotted prawn sashimi. and trigger fish + trigger fish liver nigiri. chef tadokoro was super friendly and engaging and allowed photos - that latter’s frowned upon in traditional sushiyas in japan. 10/10 recommend. RESERVATIONS ONLY - NO WALK INS. this aint your run of mill conveyor belt sushi joint - sushi chefs of this calibre need to prep the ingredients before hand.
Rosalyn L — Google review
Course 1 appetizers - monkfish liver subbed for tofu because I asked to avoid tofu, I was surprised that it was so decadent. oyster was also really good Course 2 sashimi - all great, toro was best Course 3 Chilean sea bass with sweet miso and pickled ginger - perfect Course 4 shrimp shell - crunchy, was like a nice snack. We were wondering where the rest of the shrimp went, until course 5 :) Course 5 nigiri - perfect Course 6 salmon roe and San Diego Uni - incredible Course 7 tuna yakitori with teriyaki glaze - was good but probably my least favorite course Course 8 more nigiri - perfect Soup Fish bone soup - Clear broth with a lot of pure fish flavor. Dessert Panna Cotta - somehow tasted like a smooth chocolate. Best panna cotta I’ve ever tasted, and it was homemade
Amy L — Google review
Could hardly believe this sushi was hiding behind such a modest storefront in Old Town. The omakase was a masterclass in simplicity and detail, with each piece perfectly balanced. The uni from Hokkaido and California stood out, and even the flame touched mackerel tasted like something I will still be thinking about. The staff and chefs took care of me in a way that felt personal, not just polished, and I walked away feeling like I had something really special. Getting a reservation for Saturday can be a bit of a bet since spots fill up fast, but that little scramble in advance was definitely worth it. Parking is not spacious, with a small lot nearby, and they even sketch you a map to make sure you park right, but good luck leaving disappointed. Once I was inside, everything felt intimate and calm. The traditional approach, the chefs at the bar, and the lack of hype around the place made it feel like a genuine experience, not just another sushi outing.
Carlton S — Google review
Been to this spot multiple times and when I have the time (and the reservation!) I will make the trip. One of my favorite sushi spots that has the quality and some of the feel of an omakase place but without the pressure of needing to eat everything they give you. You order from a menu and can ask for additional things, really really great. Can't wait for my next trip to San Diego.
Jason C — Google review
Best omakase in San Diego! My bf and I have tried pretty much all the major spots (Soichi, Sushi Ota, Hidden Fish, etc.) and this one blew us away. Service was great and the fish was incredibly fresh. Just be prepared for a longer dining time - some of the courses took a bit to come out, but it’s all part of the experience. Highly recommend!

Harney Sushi is a modern and trendy sushi bar in San Diego, known for its creative sushi rolls and Japanese fare. It has received numerous awards and recognition, including being hailed as one of the best date spots, offering the best sake menu, and serving some of the best sushi in the area. Since its establishment in 2001, Harney Sushi has been committed to sustainability by serving only sustainable seafood.
We ordered the Spicy Juan and vegan rainbow and we really enjoyed both. It was art on a plate. The music was great and service was top notch. They have created a great atmosphere and I definitely recommend visiting when you’re in San Diego.

Harney Sushi in Old Town is a great spot for sushi lovers. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it perfect for a casual meal. The staff is friendly and helpful, offering good recommendations. If you’re in San Diego and craving sushi, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Reema — Google review
Overpriced. The nigiri was meh. Quality of the fish is not worth the price. Rolls are packed with cream cheese, mayo and other ingredients that mask the medium tier quality fish. Their California roll is the best one. That says a lot. Paid 150 for two adults and a child. No alcohol. That's including happy hour items. Used to come here regularly back in the day when they had the harney club. They got rid of that and the quality seemed to go down with it. But they're busy so good for them. They put restrictions on the synergy gift cards so beware.

Decided to stop into Old Town after dropping off some relatives nearby. We noticed a craft fair was happening but luckly found some street parking nearby since the lots were full. As we were exploring the fair my daughter was getting hungry and we were taking a look at the various menus for the resturants arpund the area. Harney Sushi opened while we were taking a look at their menu, so we were the firat ones seated. Also noticed too they took the SD synergy cards (purchased from Costco). We had them onhand so lunch was discounted since those gift cards are a warehouse deal this month. My husband and I shared an appitizer (shimp tempura), tuna takaki, and two sushi rolls. The fish was fresh was the combos for their specialty rolls was delicious. We ordered the I Dare You and the Sea Spider. They were yummy. My daughter ate most of the tempura, but she also had the kids bento. They subsituted the chicken teriyaki for the pork tonkaksu for her. She enjoyed the bento as well and because she ate most of the tempura, the rice, edamame, and strawberries (with chocolate) we boxed her pork tonkaksu. So now she will have that for lunch tomorrow with the leftover rice. Service was fantastic and by the time we left there the place was half full with folks enjoying a Saturday lunch. Great place for a family lunch.

Our private dining experience with Manny and Josue from Harney Sushi was absolutely outstanding. They transformed the space into an intimate, beautifully set-up dining experience that felt so special. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and their service was warm, attentive, and seamless from start to finish. Manny and Josue truly went above and beyond to make the evening unforgettable. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to create an elevated, personalized dining experience at home.

My wife and I went to Harney Sushi after a long day of sight seeing. We were greeted by friendly staff and were promptly seated. The sake was great, food was delicious, the waiters were attentive and helpful. I did think the music was a little loud, at least it was pleasant to listen to. I would recommend checking this place out.

Old town's best kept secret! The best sushi in all of Socal. If you have a delicate pallet and prefer quality to hype. You'll definitely have a great experience.

While the Mongolian beef were good, my partners sushi was mid at best. The service was incredibly slow, and it wasn't even that busy. It seems the staff were more interested in talking than serving. We will not be returning to this place.

Japanese restaurant
Himitsu is a refined Japanese restaurant offering an authentic and intimate dining experience with fresh sushi sets, bento boxes for lunch, and a diverse dinner menu. The chef, Mitsu Aihara, who trained at Sushi Ota, presents traditional sushi rolls, nigiri, and special plates using the highest quality ingredients. The 29-seat space exudes exclusivity and offers prime views of the chefs' skills at the sushi counter.
Visiting from Boston and this was a wonderful spot for dinner! I highly recommend taking them up on the chefs special of the night. All of the recommendations were incredible and so unique. The monkfish blew my mind. It’s definitely upscale sushi, so you’ll spend a bit but so worth it!

My second time here and both times were amazing! I went here this past Sunday for their new Sunday special dinner; which is limited seating at the bar with a unique tasting menu prepared and served by Himitsu himself. So many favorites, I wish I remembered all the names of everything we tried but take my word for it! If you are a sushi lover and haven't tried this place, you must at it to your list! Depending on the night parking can be difficult, there's a small parking lot, so just account for that. Supringly there was plenty of parking on Sunday when we went! They are going to continue a monthly Sunday special service if you we were looking for a special and unique sushi date night!

Himitsu : “C,” with a final score of 60%, meaning “Mediocre. Not coming back, but not yet angry.” Executive summary: good vibes, but mediocre food and poor value makes me question how Himitsu made it to the “Michelin recommended” status, and in my books, “not recommended.” ------------------------------- Before the restaurant review, I created a new rating system. Of course there is always subjectivity in reviews, but taking inspiration from Car & Driver head-to-head car reviews, I’m hoping a more systematic way of analyzing different restaurants can help lessen subjectivity. The final grade will be determined by a weighted score of 3 factors - food (70%), vibe & decor (20%), service (10%). The scores will be added, then multiplied by a “value” factor that can improve or reduce the score by up to 20%. See photo for elaboration. Himitsu, I first tried about two years ago, and had a fairly good experience. So on my wife’s birthday, who’s actually out of town, I decided to celebrate it anyway, but without her. I got a 5:45pm reservation, and excitedly told my daughter “let’s go to good Japanese!” Note to self: never set high expectations! The restaurant has very limited inside seating. About ⅓ is inside, ⅓ in a “covered tent” and another ⅓ on the “patio” (err…sidewalk?) beside the parking lot. Despite sitting on the patio, the weather Gods cooperated and it felt quite comfortable. A cheerful waitress greeted us, and shared the “tonight’s specials.” Nothing popped out, and I was quite happy about the standard menu, most dishes served in small plates, allowing us to go for variety. We ended up starting with 6, and I figured we’d continue to order as we ate, depending on how we felt. Ribeye katsu sando (B ) : This was the meal highlight. Beef was tender, juicy, and nicely seasoned. The breading wasn’t as crispy as desired, but understandable since it was in between two slices of soft white bread. The ginger dressing was a little too tangy, overpowering the beef, but the weakest link was the cold au jus. Dipping the sandwich meant it became cold and soggy. So I only dipped once because I’m a fast learner. “Today’s special” soft shell crab roll (C ) : The weakest dish of the night. I originally ordered the “regular” soft shell crab roll from the menu, but the waitress mentioned they had “fresh crab” off the special menu, and I simply said “sure.” In hindsight, I should have asked about the price but I never would have expected it to be double! The worst part, it didn’t taste anything special. The lettuce conflicted with the crab that didn’t taste particularly fresh, and it really didn’t taste much better than something from a Japanese supermarket. Salmon hand roll (B ) : I didn’t try this, but my daughter says it deserved a “B”. Anago (eel) nigiri (B ) : This was quite nice, very light seasoning, reminiscent of how they’re served in Japan. The good, I could taste the sweetness of the eel. The bad, the eel wasn’t fatty enough, so given the quality of the eel, the North American style with a little more char and more sauce would have improved the dish. Salmon belly nigiri (C+ ) : It was a generous slice of salmon belly, but not enough marbling and rather tasteless. Ebi (shrimp) nigiri (C ) : The shrimp was overcooked and rather tasteless. My original intent was to keep ordering, but even my daughter, especially after eating the soft shell crab roll, said “nah, the quality is not there.” I asked about desserts but they sounded all French based, like creme brulee, and ultimately, nothing appealing. So we stopped, and asked for the bill. At $122 for the quality and amount of food served, especially $39 for the soft shell crab roll, plus the auto 20% gratuity, the value certainly wasn’t there. Finally score: “C” at 60% or “Mediocre. Not coming back, but not yet angry.” Food: C+ (65%) Vibe: B (70%) Service: B (70%) Weighted total: 45.5 (Food) + 14 (Vibe) + 7 (Service) = 66.5 Value factor: “Not worth it” so reduced score by 10% for a final score of 60% (rounded).

Great experience. We had a party of 3 and had reservations for sushi bar. Do the sushi bar. The chef is so engaging and offering of menu suggestions. Crazy fun and crazy good. Sushi chef Mickey was awesome. It is a bit pricy but man the sushi is sooo fresh. Aiden our server was spot on and attentive without any sense of overbearing. Great food. Great night.

Fantastic sushi with some inventive dishes and great service. Himitsu gets it right, serving up delicious cuts of classic nigiri as well as some local delicacies that you won’t find anywhere else. I think Wasabi Caesar Salad is probably the best invention of the 21st century. Make a reservation! We didn’t have a reservation on a Saturday night but they were able to seat us within 20 min.

Awesome meal with exceptional service!! Sit at the sushi bar! The chef was so engaging and offered great recommendations. The wait staff were also incredibly friendly and the fish was delicious. Would definitely come back here!

I rarely write negative reviews, and even more rarely come across a sushi restaurant that leaves me this unimpressed—but unfortunately, Himitsu in La Jolla did just that. From the moment we arrived, the tone was off. After seating us, the host came back to our table to mention, “You know we have the table for you for an hour and a half?” Being greeted with a time limit immediately felt unwelcoming and rushed. Also, how would we know that? Our server then insisted on taking our entire order, promising to pace the meal. What actually happened was the exact opposite—our main dishes came out first, followed immediately by everything else. There was no rhythm or flow to the meal, just a flurry of plates all at once. It completely took away from what should have been a thoughtful, bite-by-bite dining experience. We were in and out in an hour or less, which is unusual for an upscale restaurant. The portion sizes were shockingly small, especially considering the very high prices. The food was okay- I liked the miso cod and the katsu sandwich, but the sushi was lackluster. And for a restaurant positioning itself as upscale, the service was not only lackluster but felt almost dismissive. We were seated at the farthest leg of the outdoor patio, isolated from the restaurant itself. No ambiance, no connection to the sushi bar, and honestly, it felt more like we were dining at one of the neighboring restaurants. To top it all off, we were celebrating a birthday—and when the dessert came out, a candle was lit and dropped on the table with zero fanfare. No acknowledgment, no warmth, just...there you go. And let’s talk about the auto-added 20% gratuity—regardless of party size. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Himitsu.
Hannah W — Google review
Bad experience. We’ve been here multiple times over the years and we chose to visit here for our anniversary for the memories and the experience was bad. First we made a reservation for 8pm and had to wait till 815 to get seated when we showed up 5 minutes earlier. Then the food. Fish was good but the steak sando was very disappointing. You can see the portion got way smaller and the steak got smaller and thinner over the years. One piece barely have any filling. Last, the service. They have a mandatory 20% service charge, which I don’t mind but the service did not live to that. We had to wait for another 15 minutes to get our check.

Hidden Fish is a small and intimate Japanese omakase sushi spot in San Diego, offering an elevated dining experience. The menu features impeccable sushi and sashimi sourced from local fisheries and the renowned Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan. Chef John Hong expertly guides diners through a timed omakase tasting menu, ensuring that each item is presented in a specific order to enhance its flavors.
This was the most laid back yet dialed experience Ive ever had. My brother and me enjoyed every piece and shared sake and beers with our amazingly talented sushi chef Steven. Cairo killed it with the service! Would go again 1 million times.

Food 5: Wow… every bite is like its own adventure. The variety of fish that was served paired with the detail of the chefs was a perfect combination that made this experience worth every penny. My favorite Nigiri’s were the Smokey Albacore and the Jack Mackarel Service 5: The waiters pay close attention to make sure you need anything. The chefs were really informative and were a pleasure to share a conversation with. The timing of each fish being served was perfect. Atmosphere 3: The place was really small and intimate. Only sits about 12 people. Inside the restaurant was nothing special. However this is what happens when the main focus is the food and service. Over all 4.5/5

Hidden Fish is a rare gem tucked away in San Diego—a true temple of omakase dining where each bite is a revelation. From the moment you walk through the doors, there’s a sense that you’re about to experience something transcendent. The intimacy of the space, the deliberate flow of the service, and the elegance in every detail set the tone for what becomes an unforgettable culinary journey. If you’re seeking the pinnacle of sushi craftsmanship in Southern California, look no further—this is it. Chef Kappa, also known as Chef John, is nothing short of a sushi sorcerer. His passion, precision, and deep respect for each ingredient radiate from every course. Watching him work is like watching an artist paint—a quiet intensity that transforms fish and rice into edible poetry. Every piece is expertly composed and delivered with intention, from the warm aged soy brushed over pristine cuts of toro to the perfectly timed service of uni that melts with a whisper. He engages warmly, but always lets the food do the talking. And wow, does it speak volumes. The energy in Hidden Fish is something you don’t find often—equal parts meditative and electric. You feel honored to be there. It’s as though the outside world disappears and you’ve been invited into a sacred ritual, one that celebrates balance, seasonality, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The team executes with grace, from the synchronized plating to the gracious hospitality that never feels forced. It’s fine dining without the pretentiousness—a rarity in today’s dining scene. But perhaps the most jaw-dropping aspect is the value. For the level of quality, technique, and exclusivity you receive, the price is beyond fair. In fact, it’s almost a crime not to call this the best omakase experience in San Diego. Hidden Fish doesn’t just set the bar—it is the bar. And thanks to Chef Kappa’s brilliant leadership, it will no doubt continue to define what true omakase should be.

Excellent experience. There was about 1 staff person/ 2 guests. Very helpful, accommodating servers. The chefs were a lot of fun, and most of all the food was impeccable. Delicious flavors, great presentation, local, and awesome variety. Superb deal for the 18 course omakase. Highly recommended.

Great choice for good omakase style nigiri in San Diego. It is a bit out of the way, in the backend Asian part of San Diego, near the auto dealers, but I'm very much glad this store exists. We were rather late our appointment, but our chef caught us up quickly and skillfully. The fish is sourced from Mexico and local waters, so this cannot be described as traditional edomae, but it is clear that the team here is doing their best to offer good food at a reasonable price with great service. For those who want to celebrate the new and their endeavors, please visit Hidden Fish.

This was incredible. The service was perfect, the vibe was casual with the focus being the food. We had the 18 course and every bite was worth every penny. The entire front of the house and chefs were super lively and fun, we had Chef Steven and it was super enjoyable to talk and share drinks with him as he prepared us some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Some of the highlights were the Black Cod, Sea Bream, and Yellowtail.

Food I am so glad I found this restaurant. Absolutely amazing. The 18 course (pieces) omakase was well worth the price. All three chefs were super chilled and skilled. My favourite bite was the Uni & Salmon Roe. Everything else It was a small place, but very elegant and intimate. There were total 15 seats at the sushi bar. Everyone was super friendly and they checked in with you every once a while to make sure things are going well and if you don’t like a particular fish, they could substitute something else for you.

Reservation only - requires a $270 deposit for the 18-course omakase for two people. I booked the 7PM slot. You can arrive a little earlier and order some drinks in the small waiting area. Very intimate space, meant for 12-13 customers to enjoy their meals in peace. Brought my husband here for his birthday dinner last week. Excellent quality of fish and everything was carefully prepared / seasoned nicely. Attentive and friendly staff, always ready to replenish your drinks. Chefs explained what each nigiri was / where the fish was sourced as they presented it, but you also have a copy of the omakase menu & a pencil in front of you to mark your favorites. I was still hungry after the 18 courses, so we did order several items from their a la carte menu after, including some of our fave nigiris we tried from the omakase (sea bream, barracuda), and I also got a salmon hand roll to make sure I'd be full :) Came out to $400+ ($200+ pp) with drinks and after 22% tip (the service deserved it). Worth the price for a high quality meal! PS: we were told they only order enough fish to serve for that night, so everything is fresh! Other thing to note: depending on which chef you get, the sizes of your nigiris will vary and may be prepared differently compared to others (as in the other group with the other chef) simply due to differences in their preparation styles. I did notice our group's nigiris were smaller, but we didn't mind that particularly because we like less rice.

SOICHI is a traditional Japanese restaurant located in San Diego, California. It was opened by Chef Soichi Kadoya in 2019, who previously worked at Surfside Sushi and the Michelin-starred Sushi Tadokoro. The restaurant earned its own Michelin star in 2021.

Wow, what a cute and deceptively fancy sushi spot. We had a gift card for this place, and had to make reservations a month in advance. We each got the full course dinner (forgot the name of it). It came with 3 plates of some of the best sushi I’ve ever had along with some soup and ice cream. The sake was also delicious - I will add that our servers were extremely friendly and willing to discuss the different sake options with me. If you need to impress someone or want to go on a fancy date night, then look no further.

As of this review, Soichi is a 1 Star Michelin restaurant. This star is well deserved! The sushi is phenomenal. You would be hard pressed to find as good, even if you were in Japan. I dare say that there is no better in all of Southern California. The staff is friendly and professional. The sushi chef and owner is amazing. It’s fun to sit at the counter and watch him prepare each bite. The restaurant itself is not is the best area, and parking is hard to find, but the effort is well worth it. If you are in Southern California, it is worth coming here. You will need to make a reservation well in advance. They have both an omakase menu as well as a la carte - so you will have the best of anything you choose!

Soichi Sushi is hands down my favorite spot in the neighborhood! The fish is always super fresh you can tell it’s quality the moment you taste it. Chef Soichi san and staff are amazing every single time, super friendly and on point with service. They bring Japan to you! Every cut of fish just melts in your mouth, whether it’s coming in from Japan, Baja, or Europe it’s always incredible. I’ve been here plenty of times and it’s consistently a 10/10 experience. Can’t recommend it enough!
Phillip N — Google review
I opted for Soichi’s Full Omakase experience, and every course was thoughtfully crafted, perfectly balanced, and full of memorable highlights. The meal began with an appetizer of four seasonal tasting dishes, setting a beautiful tone for what was to come. The Baja oysters were briny and fresh, while the ankimo (monkfish liver) was tender and full of rich, nuanced flavor Next came the chef’s choice of seasonal sashimi, featuring pristine cuts that melted effortlessly. Highlights included fresh, vibrant akami and sweet, buttery hotate (scallop), each one showcasing the chef’s attention to quality and flavor. The Chawan Mushi — a savory Jidori egg custard was rich yet delicate, offering a comforting transition into the heart of the meal. The next course featured 12 pieces of nigiri, each bursting with freshness, flavor, and craftsmanship. Notable standouts included the creamy Uni, melt-in-your-mouth Toro, bold Iwashi (sardine), delicate Nodoguro (blackthroat sea perch), rich Kinmedai (golden eye snapper), unique Kawahagi (triggerfish), and the luxurious Seki Aji (horse mackerel). Following the nigiri, the Shirumono was served as a gentle palate cleanser, along with a light, pillowy tamago. To complement the meal, I sampled a few sake options, as the restaurant generously offered small tastings, which ultimately led me to select the Tedorigawa Yamahai Junmai “Silver Mountain.” Its surprising notes of oak, cedar, minerals, and malt created a perfect bridge between the richness of the food and the crispness of the sake — a great pick, especially for whisky and tequila lovers.

Came here on a Saturday night. Place was busy. Most of the dishes were good. Servers were overall great. Main issue is that food comes out a bit slowly so there can be a wait between dishes. We sat in the patio but somehow diners inside the restaurant who sat down 2-3 dishes after us, caught up and finished before us. Overall took 2.5 hours for the Soichi omakase. There was a heater on the patio if needed which was nice.

Kokoro Restaurant is an upscale eatery that focuses on Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi, sake, and cocktails. Despite its distance from Japan, the restaurant prides itself on sourcing ingredients locally and directly from Japan to ensure outstanding meals. Head chef Taisho Akio Ishito oversees this commitment to quality. Known as a hidden gem, Kokoro offers a curated selection of fresh fish that sets it apart from other sushi restaurants in the area.
Authentic and Heartfelt Omakase Kokoro is a truly special place. Unlike modern omakase trends that focus on flashy presentations, the chef stays true to tradition, letting the natural flavors and textures shine. His ice-preserving techniques take the fish to the next level. What touched me the most was how he accommodated my request for no rice. Instead of just serving the fish as-is, he carefully adjusted each piece—sliced halibut, diced toro, seaweed-wrapped eel—showing incredible thoughtfulness and skill. Celebrating our second anniversary here made it even more meaningful. This was my boyfriend’s favorite spot during college, and coming back felt like a homecoming. The chef’s dedication is truly inspiring. Kokoro is more than just a meal—it’s an experience from the heart.

We are so lucky to have this spot in San Diego. Most sushi restaurants in town are fusion, bending to American tastes, but Kokoro transports you to the traditional way of sushi. Pure, simple, and beautiful! Chef prepared the nigiri with the perfect amount of soy sauce, sometimes topping with ginger, wasabi, or salt, every piece was perfect. The rice was plump and delicious and the mackerel was the best I've had, bold flavor and a fattiness that made it melt in the mouth. Another quiet standout was the sea bream and mushroom soup — I wish I could have this broth on tap all the time. Lastly, our server was so kind and welcoming and the dishware is so pretty. We will definitely come back and tell our friends about this special place.

Really cute and authentic Japanese restaurant. I have meant to take my wife over to get some decent and delicious sushi bowls. Overall, I enjoyed the whole experience. Our waitress and sushi chef were so friendly and attentive. but it is on a pricier side even for lunch menu. I also wish the sushi and eel can be fresher than other places I tried. Just me but I should probably try their dinner menu to really judge this place properly.

This is a surprisingly authentic restaurant for the location! In a strip mall parking lot in Serra Mesa I was not expecting a lovely place like this, serving Japanese food for Japanese people. Very small, with nearly as much seating at the sushi bar as the rest of the restaurant. Excellent view of the sushi being made. Clean and classy aesthetic. The tea served is one of my favorites, a flavorful one with toasted rice. I just got a quick udon, which was delicious, but I intend to come back for something more in the future. I was the only non-Japanese person there, always a good sign!

We went for dinner last night with my three small grandchildren, and they left us waiting outside in the cold for almost two hours before assigning us a table, because the hostess at the entrance insisted that was “the table.” After the table was finally occupied, we went to speak with her, and she didn’t send anyone to clean it until 44 minutes later. Then, when we asked for a baby chair, she brought it 14 minutes later, with a bad attitude and no manners. On top of that, the service at the table was painfully slow, and the food was far from delicious. Because of all these issues, I have decided never to go back to that place

Shino Sushi + Kappo is a casual Japanese restaurant located in the Little Italy area. It offers a laid-back atmosphere with simple and contemporary surroundings. Visitors have praised the restaurant for its incredible sushi, quick and attentive staff, making it an ideal spot for a date night. The sushi bar provides an awesome experience with super fresh fish, particularly the golden eye and black throat perch recommended by the sushi chef.
Had an amazing experience! Made a reservation for when they opened and was given the option for seating, chose the bar and had the best view in the place. The service was PHENOMENAL. And every item ordered was delicious. Tried the hamachi despite not liking sashimi and it was excellent, definitely recommend.

Service is generally solid. The staff is super friendly attentive and most are very knowledgeable. I prefer the sushi bar over the tables for the atmosphere— but to each their own. The food is solid. They don’t have a traditional Omakase unless you reserve over a week in advance and state that’s what you want but they will do a mini omakase of nigiri only on same day if requested. The sushi / sashimi is too notch here. It’s definitely in my regular rotation of rest. Worth checking out if you’re visiting or live here.

They actually opened up and let us in, even though they had closed at 9:30 and that was when we showed up. We got a few ordered of sashimi, all amazing. Simple but flavor was there. Also got the yellowtail jalapeño, so yummy. I’m gluten free and they were very accommodating. I don’t live in SD, but was there helping my best friend move in so I’m definitely looking forward to coming back and having again.

Ken Sushi Workshop is a delightful gem nestled in Carmel Valley, perfect for those seeking an elevated sushi experience. This compact yet stylish eatery specializes in Japanese fusion cuisine, showcasing innovative sushi rolls that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Diners can indulge in high-end ingredients like truffle-topped tuna belly and Wagyu beef nigiri, alongside unique specialty rolls such as the Mango-A-Go-Go and the rice-less Cherry Blossom Roll.
We made lunch reservations for 6 people the night before, so our table was ready when we got there. I've been going here since the first day they opened and the quality, consistency, presentation and service are always above expectations. The sauces they use for salads, appetizers and the main meals are always very fresh and unique, which makes the meal more special. The sushi tastes fantastic. The rice is always fluffy, light and rolled sparingly with the sushi. I recommend Ken's sushi, but I suggest you make reservations if you have a part of more than 4 people. We spent $63 per person (no alcohol), but the quality is worth it.

Today was a second visit at Ken Sushi, but unfortunately it was disappointing. We had an incredible first visit to this restaurant—the sushi was fresh, expertly prepared, and the overall experience left us amazed. We were looking forward to come back again, but it was a letdown. We ordered the chefs choice nigiri set ($55), the fish temperature was off—quite warm, which took away from the freshness we expected. The texture of the fish wasn’t great either—lacking the chewiness. The overall quality of the sushi just didn’t justify the $200 total we spent. When we mentioned to the waitress that the quality of the sushi wasn’t as good as before, she brushed it off rather than taking the initiative to check with the chef. That response, combined with the food quality, really left us feeling disappointed. For the price we paid, the overall experience didn’t match what we expected based on our previous visit.

It's hands down one of my favorite places. The quality is exceptional — every dish is a masterpiece, prepared with care, precision, and soul. The atmosphere is intimate and inviting, and the chefs’ passion for their work is felt in every bite. It’s not just a meal, it’s an experience. I always leave feeling inspired and grateful. Truly a gem!

If you want probably the best sushi in San Diego and one of the best sushi spots I have personally experienced outside of Japan, this is it. Don't go here if you want to be able to continue to enjoy your gas station sushi.
Nick C — Google review
This place is nothing short of absolutely legendary for sushi. Ken himself is a charismatic, funny and loving host to this chateau of incredible sushi and good times. The quality of the fish is something I've never had in my life, it is pristine and incredibly fresh. The staff that works here does such an amazing job making sure you're taken care of. I have heard of this place for years but today was my first time, absolutely blown away by the quality, the service and time I had here tonight. Ken I want to apologize because you'll be seeing me a lot more often from now on, your food isn't just food it's an experience that left me amazed. This is the best sushi I've had in San Diego by far.
Hal J — Google review
Ate here for the first time and immediately understood the seller reputation. Ken is a magician. Every slice of fish was beyond incredible. I have never had such an intensively awedome sushi experience. I am grateful to Ken and his team for their dedication to perfection.

While this is not a fancy date night sushi spot, it is certainly one of the best sushi dinners I’ve ever had. Their portions were much larger than typical - sashimi/sushi meat were nearly twice the size of compared to anywhere else. Our waitress was very helpful in guiding us toward the plates we’d like best, and we were very happy and comfortably full when we left. The ambiance is not conducive to a quiet date night if that’s what you’re looking for as there were many families around opening. They have portable tents on their patio but ours moved precariously in the wind. Next time, I’d probably opt to sit indoors at the sushi bar to watch the action or see if there are other outdoor seating not in one of the “bubble tents”. Overall, you get great value for your dollar as the sushi is top-notch, fresh, and large portions.

Ikiru Sushi is a no-frills sushi spot located in The Quarter at Liberty Station, San Diego. Despite its small size, it consistently serves some of the freshest nigiri and inventive rolls in the city. The menu features a variety of sushi rolls, sake, and Japanese beers available for delivery or takeout. Customers particularly enjoy the Poke Roll with its fresh ingredients and the Panko Special Deep Fried Roll for its crunchy texture and flavorful toppings.
Delicious well-prepared food. The server was willing to answer questions and ensured I had everything I needed. The decorations were appropriate and not too crowded. The space is a bit smaller but perfect for what kind of restaurant it is. Sushi chefs behind the counter looked like they really knew what they were doing.

If you’re visiting the Ikiru restaurant — or even just in the area — you absolutely must come here to eat! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and everything is prepared with such care. Highly recommended! Especially Hamachi Kama! 👍

Every time I fly in to San Diego, I go directly here!! I frequently drive from Del Mar just for THIS place! Phenomenal TOP GRADE SUSHI. Not cheep but just right on price… especially for the HIGH QUALITY!!! Pictured is the sushi & sashimi lunch special!!! Worth the drive!!!

This is an awesome spot if you’re craving sushi. Although this location is not able to accompany huge parties, it does provide a huge party for your taste buds. We got their spicy calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was awesome paired with their sauce! For the main dishes, we got the special California roll, the original California roll, the spicy salmon roll, and the panko special! All were just delights. Each roll is made fresh at the bar in front of you. The sushi was filled to the max. They were not cheap with materials! It was a really good place overall! I’ll definitely be coming back when I have another sushi craving!

Loved the sushi here, the staff is super friendly too, park in the main parking lot and walk into the courtyard to find the entrance. Spicy rolls are on point!!! Highly recommend.

A weekly ritual for my wife and I “Ikaru” is an fantastic little sushi bar. The word Ikaru roughly translates to “To live” or as the friendly staff boisterously described “I want to live, or I like to live” really encourages people to try new things or enjoy your regular favorite. They have fantastic sushi and even bento meals. The sake is really nice too. I go here every week and even get to practice my Japanese with some of the staff. I highly recommend.

Ikuri sushi is deserving of each of these five star reviews. Incredible sushi made with obvious fresh ingredients, technique and care. The service is quick and the atmosphere is perfect for an intimate conversation or a nice solo date. I will recommend this place to anyone!

🔥 “Packed House, Fresh Fish—Ikiru’s Worth the Wait” I ordered the Rainbow Roll, Mango Albacore, Special California, Protein Roll, Special Poke, and Calamari—and every bite was fresh and flavorful. The fish quality was excellent, and the sauces added just the right touch (though the soy sauce was extra salty, a little goes a long way). I wish they offered natural wasabi, but the one they served was still good. The wasabi, ginger, and seaweed salad came out once with the order, and I had to ask for more—but the staff were happy to bring it, and didn’t charge extra. Everyone was super friendly, and the chefs were clearly hardworking and kind. Service felt warm and attentive, even during a busy rush. The atmosphere was lively but a bit hot and crowded—understandable, since the place is popular and the food is worth it. I got seated in under 30 minutes, which was impressive given how packed it was. Overall, Ikiru Sushi is a spot I’d definitely recommend. Great food, great people, and a vibe that shows they care.

Kaito Sushi is a traditional sushi bar that offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, reminiscent of Tokyo. The friendly staff ensures a delightful dining experience as you embark on a culinary journey. Situated in a small strip mall, this restaurant is known for serving some of the best sushi in town. Opt for the omakase at the bar, where the chef selects dishes based on your preferences.
I come here 2-3 times every time I visit my parents. It’s by far the best fish I’ve had in the area. It’s small and inviting. Prices reflect the quality of fish. Always has been very pleasant even some of the blue fishes I don’t enjoy like mackerel. I love this place. I don’t eat rolls unless I’m with children who can’t finish their food. I’ve been all over the world and eaten sushi along the way. The bed reviews seem to be completely off target and I dont know where they are coming from. Maybe they had a bad experience but please. Always give a place another chance.

Outstanding in every aspect! The service was great. The miso soup, dumplings, and rolls were all fresh and flavorful.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend, and I'm glad we took the advice. This place is excellent. The fish is high quality, fresh, and of a wide variety not found at most sushi bars. The menu isn't full of crazy novelty rolls. The focus is on the fish. They way it should be, imo. The staff were all friendly, and we had an excellent conversation with the owner. We will definitely be back.

The best sushi we know of in the area. Our choice every time we visit since moving, and for our special 10 year anniversary dinner. They only buy fresh and buy some fish direct from Japan. Incredible service and friendliness.

The best sushi in town goes without saying. Anyone who has been to Kaito Sushi knows this but the friendly service you didn’t think that. My psychological state would go through such a drastic improvement after visiting, and may have been the delicious sushi, which is the best in town and the eighth. Sapporo’s That I drank, but either way, I left with the most upbeat feelings And biggest smile After eating the delicious sushi, and interacting with the Incredibles staff. Highly recommend!

This has been our favorite sushi place since forever. We tried other places but we always come back here! The fish is fresh and delicious. The place always feels cozy and the staff is very nice. Don't miss the appetizers that are great, the Japanese fried chicken is amazing! After that you have a lot of choices, sashimi, rools, special mention to the eels one, my favorite. Dinning in or taking out- don't hesitate you won't regret it.

Bentonville box was bad, salad was covered in dressing so much it was like a soup salad. Only one guy was serving, taking orders and cashing people out. Salmon was so small and over smothered in teriyaki sauce. Edemames were not cooked enough and again the garlic dressing was overwhelming, you could only eat half since the rest were submerged in juice. First and last time coming here.

My new favorite sushi place in North County. A must visit. We called ahead in the morning and left a voice mail for reservations. Received a call back by a very friendly person and they had room for us at the sushi bar. If you go here sit at the sushi bar and make sure you call ahead they were busy. We absolutely loved the environment, staff, service, and of course the fresh sushi. We ordered omakase (sushi chef's choice) and everything, I mean everything was amazing!! Go here you will not be disappointed. Pro tip, they do run out of sushi (goes to show how busy they are) so for the most variety you may want to go earlier rather than later.

Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi Bar is a vibrant Japanese restaurant that offers a wide array of delectable dishes. The menu features an impressive selection of specialty rolls, grilled skewers, and traditional robata grill items. The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every dish, from the caramelized eggplant to the crispy soft-shell crab and jalapeno slaw.
Blue Ocean Robata – Where Fire Meets Flavor and Keeps You Coming Back My first taste of robata happened at Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi Bar, and it instantly shot to the top of my favorite cuisines. The pork belly and wagyu beef skewers were pure perfection—smoky, tender, and unforgettable. The caramel popcorn shrimp from the appetizer menu stole the show—sweet, crispy, and a perfect match for their crisp craft lagers. And the sushi and sashimi? Unbelievably fresh, artfully plated, and full of flavor that keeps calling me back. For the best experience, drop by Monday to Thursday between 3–6 PM during happy hour—same amazing food at prices that feel like a steal.

This is a great spot to come and eat dinner! I took my fiance here on the night we got engaged, and it added even more to our special night! The staff was very attentive and the food came out really quickly! I was very impressed at the speed of the food and the quality as well. I order the mango sushi roll and my fiancee ordered one of their me tempura rolls, both were amazing and both were delicious! Our server was named Nathalie and she was very kind and helpful, honestly such a great experience!

This is a real culinary destination in Carlsbad, excellent food! If you are plant based or vegan it is worth the trip out to Carlsbad to try their vegan sushi. The chef who came up with these recipes is really inspired and talented. I’ve attached photos of the vegan sushi creations “earthquake” and “lady in red” 10/10 for presentation and flavor, sooo good!

My favorite place in Carlsbad! The food always has a great taste , fresh and drinks as well. The service is great 👌… but every time, the kitchen sent food on different time (you need to wait for the others or not eat together 😔). Doesn’t matter if everything is cold, raw, cooked.

Great sushi and sashimi! The quality and freshness of the fish cannot be overstated. Our waitress was not very attentive and we had to ask for water and tea refills throughout our lunch. One of our orders was gotten completely wrong. The hamachi kama (grilled yellow tail collar) was very tasty but it was the smallest kama I have ever been served. I would say that these complaints are very minor compared to the overall experience and I have no problem recommending this place at all. The price was reasonable considering it is in Carlsbad.

Really great spot! My friends and I unknowingly came in for happy hour on a Monday and was greeted with $5 wine, appetizers, and hand rolls. I'm not a big fan of sushi but my wife is I brought her here to maintain the harmony and peace within our marriage. The place is comfortable and casual. I thoroughly enjoyed the Indiana Jones roles (but I don't recall the exact name of the dish). I really liked their California rolls too (I didn't take a picture of them). If I were with my sons, or with my buddies, I would have eaten a lot more!

We had a great experience here! We started with the gyoza and it had good flavor with a little bit of spice, I think from the sauce. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi and I was happy to see a generous amount served! It had great flavor and the meat wasn’t fatty which is a plus for me! It was definitely a pricey meal but I’m glad we were able to visit!

First off ignore the fishy smell when you walk in. I have passed over this place three times because of that (my) rule. I'm glad I did because this place is awesome. Small sushi joint with a handful of tables inside and out, and a sushi bar. Extensive menu with really good fancy rolls, and a sashimi special with thick cuts of very quality sushi. The garlic edamame had a citrus ponzu flavor that was unreal. Ordered the crispy rice and that was the stuff of my dreams. I could eat that every day and not get tired! I got the Prospect roll and the spicy yellowtail roll. My son got the Dragon and my daughter the lunch sushi combo. All were very very good fresh fish and perfect rice rolls and the sashimi was huge! Definitely two biters. Reasonably priced, good service, will go back!

Hane Sushi is an upscale Japanese restaurant and sushi bar that offers a refined dining experience. It's a great spot for a romantic evening or a special date night, where you can enjoy an array of nigiri, sashimi, and rolls. The restaurant also features a variety of sake options, including hot, cold, and sparkling varieties. If you're looking for more budget-friendly options, they offer daily lunch specials during specific hours.
I’m not much of a reviewer unless an establishment is amazing or the opposite. I must take the time to let everyone know that this was the BEST fish and sushi that I’ve ever had. It was incredibly fresh and each dish was better than the next. It is most certainly worth the price (although less expensive than some other spots). The drinks were also suberb and service was excellent and genuine. Don’t be fooled by the exterior appearance. Once you go inside, it’s chic and modern. Absolutely will give Hane 10+ stars.
Melody G — Google review
Absolutely love the sushi here! Incredibly high quality fish (which you will pay for) it’s so worth it. They have great rolls, hand rolls, and nigiri. It’s a super casual neighborhood restaurant with top notch sushi bar. I would love to make this my go-to sushi place if it wasn’t for the high prices. Great service!
GFLP — Google review
Came here on a weekday for lunch and sat at the sushi bar. Hane Sushi closes at 2pm, but reopens later for dinner. It wasn't too busy when I walked in around 12:30pm, but they had a solid amount of tables about an hour later. Service did not appear to falter just because it was close to closing... it actually got even more attentive, but not in a pushy "we're about to close" way. Staff here is super nice and I can tell that the chefs are happy to chat with customers to find out what they like. I got the crunchy salmon roll ($24--the menu posted on their website says $19, but that's very outdated) and the special ceviche roll ($27). Based on past reviews and pics on Google, the ceviche roll has been available for several years now (and should probably be on the regular menu), but maybe they switch up the fish here and there? Mine had spicy tuna/avocado inside and was topped with seared yellowtail, cilantro and jalapeño. The fish was verrrrry fresh and of great quality. The location and ambiance is also nice, but nothing special. I will say though, that the entire place was super clean, even the bathrooms. I think that Hane's prices are a little higher than they should be, but I feel like that's most places in SD. The fact it cost me about $50 for two special rolls during lunch is the reason why I won't be back again anytime soon. I There are other places in the area that offer quality sushi with lunch specials, or just more reasonable pricing generally. I'd still recommend Hane Sushi to others based on the quality and good experience, but this place is better suited as a date night rather than a stop for lunch.
Ashleigh F — Google review

Hane Sushi is delicious. We went here last night for dinner and had AMAZING service and food. The sushi came out quickly and while we waited we had some tasty smooth unfiltered sake and appetizers. The best sushi 🍣 roll of the night was easily the Ceviche Roll which I highly recommend you try. You can also order the stuffed tomato! I can't wait to come back here with my wife and eat here again since we had a fantastic time.

Hostess/waitress asked us to leave after 1-1.5 hours to free up table space. Overpriced small pieces of mediocre Sushi. The uni was very tiny and extremely fishy. When we mentioned it, the hostess/waitress rudely told us that “it’s very special Uni from Japan and it’s normal to taste fishy!” Wow, really? I have eaten uni for many years and never had such poor quality, never should it taste or smell fishy! At least they could’ve given us a little credit, but she charged us the full price, even though I returned one of the two pieces because it tasted so bad. San Diego certainly has better Sushi restaurants! We did, however, enjoy the atmosphere and the fact that most of their Sushi chefs looked authentic. Not returning.

Absolutely LOVED this restaurant for my bachelorette party over the weekend. The atmosphere was vibrant as soon as you walked in and the interior design is beautiful. Our server Karla did a phenomenal job of checking in on us constantly and made sure everything was to our liking. As a foodie I have to say this was genuinely one of the best sushi places I’ve been to yet! The variety of foods had us ordering half the menu and everything was delicious. So happy we decided to come here! Definitely make reservations in advance and can’t wait till I come back.
Mariah A — Google review
This sushi bar in San Diego definitely stands out for its atmosphere more than the food. When you first walk in, the sight that immediately catches your eye is the large sakura tree set right in the center of the restaurant. It really sets the tone and gives the whole place a unique and beautiful vibe. The restaurant itself is spacious, and there was a lively energy with a lot of people dining and enjoying themselves, which made it feel like a fun and social spot to spend an evening. Their menu is quite extensive with many Japanese dishes to choose from, so at first glance it seems very promising. However, I have to admit I wasn’t very impressed by the food itself. The sushi rice was much too soft and mushy, which really took away from the overall experience of the sushi. The style also felt more like “American Japanese” food rather than authentic Japanese flavors. That being said, if your main goal is to have drinks in a lively setting and soak up the atmosphere, then this is definitely the kind of place that works. It’s a good spot for a night out if you prioritize vibe over authentic sushi.

I'm usually a sushi purist opting for classic sashimi or traditional nigiri, but the speciality rolls here are what subpar sushi restaurants are trying to do. A fusion of textures and flavors that blend perfectly together. Never forced, no one ingredient overpowering the other a true treat! Add in the extremely attentive service and unique atmosphere and you will have a dining experience you will 100% return to!

Must try the Notorious PIG roll! Bacon on sushi…wowza. The other rolls my friends ordered were also delish. The spicy garlic edamame were yummy and the drinks also excellent.

This place is great. Went with 3 coworkers for an early dinner before the start of a conference. Happy hour deals are great. We really liked the garlic edamame, gyoza and shishito pepper starters. All the rolls were yummy, but a unique standout was the one with bacon crumbles on top. The atmosphere is unique and fun. It’s is lively enough to feel modern and exciting, but not so loud that we couldn’t enjoy each other’s company. I think they hit the balance perfectly. We took a photo next to the cherry blossom bar.

I drank the entire soup after my noodles were eaten. Some of the vegetables in the vegetable tempura could’ve been cooked longer but it was good regardless. The katsu chicken was delicious and I loved the bean sprout salad that went along. Our server was so nice and they went above and beyond to make us comfortable.

Although it’s been around for 25+ years I never knew it existed. Glad to find it!!! Very reasonable prices for sushi and other dishes. Food was great! Attentive & friendly service from the Mom & Pop was an added bonus.

I have been meaning to eat here for a while. I finally ate here tonight with my daughter and was not disappointed. I ordered the Cali roll and beef teriyaki combo, my daughter ordered the chicken katsu and tempora combo. The food was amazing! I will definitely be dining here again and will highly recommend to others. The restaurant was also very nice, comfortable and clean inside. The wait staff was also very friendly.

Highly recommend! We enjoyed the Rainbow Sushi Roll, Green muscles plate and Alaskan sushi roll s. Absolutely fresh, beautifully prepared, served by the daughters of the family with great care and delight. Seated immediately. Immediate freeway access to 5 fwy. EZ and plentiful parking. Don't let the subtle beige double doors fool you, this was a very lovely, authentic experience! So pleased this delightful family worked hard and survived the pandemic years against all odds. VERY reasonable prices, so be SURE to tip well! We LOVE supporting local, quality, family business. Places like Yoshinos are the backbone of our local economy and our national pride. And so should you;-)

Appetizer Squid Legs tasted rubbery, Not Fresh. Katsu Don meat had a lot of chewy Fat. UPDATED July 16, 2025! Delicious Chicken Katsu, but look how little Rice they provide you? Japanese restaurant should be generous with 🍚 Rice.

The restaurant is quick in providing service, and has ample parking spaces. However, I found the food to be dry, flavorless and quite expensive considering the quality. I don't recommend the food.

Mikami Bar & Revolving Sushi, located in Convoy San Diego, is a spacious kaiten-style restaurant offering over 70 types of sushi. Diners can enjoy a lively atmosphere as they sit around the revolving sushi bar and pick their favorites from the conveyor belt. The menu, curated by head chef Aiden KT Lee, includes innovative sushi dishes, popular rolls, appetizers, sides, and entrees.
They seem to have worked out the new restaurant kinks. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. They had some classics and creative nigiri and rolls that were new to me. The apps were good, too! We loved the murals on the walls and the large windows into the spotless kitchen. They don’t need to keep the all you can eat plan, it should be charge by the plate.

Mikami is a top spot for sushi lovers in San Diego! The all-you-can-eat sushi on the conveyor belt is such a fun experience. The Spicy Tuna Roll really stood out for me—it had the perfect kick. The Dragon Roll, with the eel and avocado, was rich and delicious, and the Rainbow Roll was super fresh and flavorful. There’s a great variety, and everything that came by looked so tempting. The staff is friendly and keeps things moving smoothly. I can’t wait to go back!

I didn’t know what to expect for my first time because other reviews were mixed. I think they’re probably just old reviews because I LOVED my experience. We got there when they opened at 11:30 and had plenty of food options for the AYCE that came around shortly after we sat down. The food was fresh and delicious and a good variety of options too. Mika, the cat server was super cute too. It was my birthday and they played a song for it and Mika sang. Just a great experience, overall. We plan on coming back with friends.

Came here for dinner on Tuesday for their all-you-can-eat. Everything on the conveyor is part of the all-you-can-eat. Anything you order off the touchscreen menu, is extra. The quality was not the best, but it is what you would expect for all-you-can-eat. However, there were still some good rolls and a couple nigiri. Depending on where you're seated, you may not have the larger selection as the plates come out from the kitchen. Jonathan, the General Manager, did a great job to accommodate that lack of choice with a more personal service. The entire waiting staff was friendly and quick with service. I would come back again for service and all-you-can-eat.
Gil C — Google review
The staff was excellent and customer service superb! The menu was large and offered a nice variety for even those that don't like sushi. Everyone in our party was able to find something to order. The experience was fun, but unfortunately the quality of food was not what we hoped for. We were disappointed in the sushi varieties and taste of items we had. When visiting, it is important to get a table at the beginning of the line, because we were one of the last tables and it was slim picking on the items that passed us.
Shondra J — Google review
The sushi here was good! I really enjoyed the à la carte option because you can bring your leftovers home. I think that the rolls were fair priced and tasted solid. The ambiance is very family friendly and relaxed. The service was great! The servers were very welcoming and thorough with the ordering process. Super nice staff!

We love this place. We decided to finally try their happy hour, which is an all-day option on Wednesday. And It didn't disappoint. The calamari was delicious, and the mini ramen was just the perfect size. We also got the seaweed salad, a premium roll, crispy rice salmon, and everything was fresh and very tasty. Aside from that, the manager Jonathan also greeted us and made us feel like family. He is so friendly and so is the entire staff including mika who brings you your food and drinks. We love the atmosphere here and the amazing food, prices, and quality. See u guys soon!

Do not choose the all you can eat if you like variety sushi. The presentation could use some work. The sushi does not look like it is fresh, not appetizing. The conveyor is empty and no revolving sushi happening. The IPad does not have much choices. A bit confusing to use. The tasty, properly prepared sushi you have to pay and not included in the all you can eat. They charge$4.00 per plate if you choose the a la carte and not the all you can eat. Staff are friendly. Towards the end of our meal we found out no working bathroom inside the restaurant or the bar so not sure how their employees relieve themselves. We paid and left the place. I vomited as soon as I got home and swear not to return to this place again. Definitely not recommending this place.

Kinme Omakase offers a unique and unforgettable dining experience in San Diego. The beautifully decorated room provides a peaceful and intimate atmosphere for an exceptional meal. Unlike traditional omakase, this experience goes beyond sushi, offering a variety of unique and delicious dishes that will tantalize your taste buds. The attentive chefs provide a well-orchestrated symphony of food and service, making it the perfect choice for special occasions or simply to indulge in an extraordinary culinary journey.
Ill preface with this, I’m a fairly hard grader. I felt the spring menu was a bit underwhelming but the quality of ingredients were still high. I eat sushi weekly and this certainly maintains high standards of fish and quality of all ingredients. The secondary accent ingredients / dishes often shined more than the mains and that was maybe due to the season. The wine and sake pairing was fairly weak and I recommend skipping out unless you really like sake (they say wine and sake but it’s one traditional wine and the rest sake)… The one pairing that seemed best fit was during the nigiri portion of the meal. There was also less notable delicacy type offerings such as no caviar and no uni in this menu, I typically can get mostly the same fish and meat selection for ~$100 less than what the menu comprised of but their service, presentation, and attention to detail helped compromise for it. Overall good experience, but still left a bit to be desired. Staff were nice and service was excellent, personally with the spring menu I felt the experience was close to maybe a single star Michelin equivalent dining.
Dallin W — Google review
Very straightforward approach to omakase here at Kinme. Familiar ingredients, approachable things, delicate flavors. We had the summer menu which was highlighted by fresh lemon and wasabi. Various fish and clam dishes, some uni, wagyu, and a little bit of octopus accompanied miso this and dashi that, shiso and ginger made an appearance also as well as some corn. This salt, that pepper, some zest, every course was good and some were great. It was all very summertime. I enjoyed it!

Dare you to find a better dining experience in San Diego. Best Omikase in San Diego County, regardless of what stars and mentions others may have. Incredible, knowledgeable staff; they know food, sake and wine. Food and service are spectacular. True artists delivering the best Omikase!
Gordon R — Google review
Amazing omakase. This is a gem for San Diego, especially in the city area. The quality and thoughtfulness in their menu and service is on par with some of the ones you may experience in places like NYC, but right here! 8 seats each seating time, the service was very enjoyable and not at all feeling rushed. The food were beautifully presented prior to plating and the aroma along with the “show” is all well worth the price tag (unlike some other “omakase” we’ve been tricked to before per social media) we especially appreciated that the owner /chef was right there being part of the service. Thank you for bringing a true experience and respect for Japanese culture and food to the city of San Deigo! We had the early summer 2025 menu and was very happy with every dish, the freshness of each ingredient used (including wasabi root) beautifully shines as we eat each piece per chef’s instruction. LOVED our experience, will be returning!
Ariel C — Google review
We went back in October, and our experience was impeccable. It was truly the best meal of my life. The staff were on top of everything, and the quality of the ingredients were excellent. I still think about the corn soup and ceremonial matcha at the end.
Elizabeth S — Google review
A standout omakase experience—seasonal, thoughtful, and effortlessly elevated. From start to finish, the staff delivers a sense of warmth and polish that matches the precision of each dish. The Nigiri Toro Tower (yes, I’m making that a thing) was unforgettable—melt-in-your-mouth layers of indulgence that deserve their own fan club. Every course felt like a quiet celebration of flavor and craftsmanship. This meal was a gift, literally and figuratively—courtesy of my soon-to-be mother-in-law, whose taste in gifts is only rivaled by her generosity. Safe to say she now holds legendary status in my culinary memories. Whether you’re a seasoned omakase enthusiast or just looking for a special night out, Kinme is a standout. Quietly luxe, deeply satisfying, and absolutely worth savoring.
Timmy F — Google review
Excellent service and omakase. The ambiance was very unique for a San Diego omakase experience— a darker room with a dramatic marble wall was the backdrop to the beautifully plated dishes. I loved the Japanese jazz music in the background. They are the one of the rare SD omakase restaurants willing to accommodate for my gluten intolerance. Will be back for more. Heads up, I don’t think they have any special treatments for birthdays. We got a HBD note on our way out. Street parking only. My only note… for a pricey omakase, I wish their uni was from Hokkaido or Santa Barbara. That being said, they did a great job with the San Diego uni.
Mel C — Google review
To start, this experience is going to cost you some money. Omakase along with wine/sake pairings is around $380 per person with tax and service fee (20%). You can skip the pairings and just order a glass of wine or sake but for me there wasn't much of a choice. I wanted to enjoy the experience in its entirety. For us this was a special occasion, my hubbys birthday, was worth every penny. There are only 10 seats so I was a little apprehensive having to belly up to a small bar elbow to elbow with strangers. Not the case at all. The bar is really long and seating space is quite generous with plenty of room between each of us. There were 2 other parties aside from us and all pretty much kept to themselves albeit a lively bunch. During the courses of the evening our chefs would introduce ingredients and preparations leading to an epic culinary journey. Setting hay on fire for the hay smoked salmon was quite dramatic and the result, will get to that later. Every step was thought out, methodic and precise. Expert level is the name of the game at Kinme. This includes the well synchronized wait staff, you'll be in very good hands. This is a 10 course tasting menu plus matcha tea at the end. Mind you, some courses like sashimi and sushi aren't like one piece but many, many, many pieces. I won't go into detail about everything we had but it's worth noting that their menu changes with the season. So the menu we had was towards the end of its run and a new menu will start soon. Looking at other menu posts the categories don't change much but the ingredients do. There were a few things that stood out and I can't stop thinking about them. First the hay smoked salmon in the sashimi course was mind blowing. Also in that course we were served an A5 Wagyu tartar puff. It warped me as it tasted like In-n-out burger but many steps above in flavor, texture and overall satisfaction. A5 Wagyu is something else. When leaving the chefs were outside to bid all of their guests farewell. We left full and extremely happy, what a truly memorable evening.

Nobu San Diego, located in the vibrant Hard Rock Hotel on Fifth Avenue, has established itself as a premier destination for sushi and Japanese-Fusion cuisine. This bustling hotspot attracts both tourists and locals alike, eager to experience its extensive menu featuring over forty sushi and sashimi options. Guests can indulge in an array of culinary delights, from specialty tempura to unique cold dishes like Nobu-style sashimi tacos or octopus carpaccio with jalapeno dressing.
Located in the Gaslamp Quarter, Nobu San Diego brings the brand’s iconic blend of Japanese cuisine with Peruvian influences to a sleek, modern space. The ambiance is upscale yet approachable, with dim lighting, polished interiors, and a lively energy that makes it ideal for both date nights and group dinners. The menu features Nobu’s signature dishes like the Black Cod Miso, Yellowtail Jalapeño, and the crispy Rock Shrimp Tempura, along with a variety of sushi, sashimi, and creative small plates. The quality is consistently high, with fresh ingredients and elegant presentation across the board. Service is polished and attentive, and the bar program offers well-crafted cocktails and a strong sake selection to complement the food. While it carries the global Nobu name, the San Diego location feels well integrated into the local dining scene, offering a dependable, stylish night out in the heart of downtown. Would strongly budget around $150/pp for a full course meal with tax and tip.

The food and drinks were top class. Once a Michelin star place. Service was brilliant. Every food that we have ordered was simply superb. Except the saltiness of the soy dip was overpowering. We tried many low sodium sauces but all of them tasted too salty. The Drinks were out of this world. It can get very noisy and cold due to powerful air vents at times.

We had a great time at this location! We’ve been to several different Nobu spots, and I always love seeing how the menu changes from place to place. Their signature cocktail here is a watermelon and herb mix super fresh and really tasty. The best part of our meal? The wagyu tacos. Pricey, yes… but absolutely worth the splurge. So flavorful and delicious! Service was great, but there aren’t really any views at this location, so Malibu is still our favorite overall.

It’s an experience. Choose the sushi table for seating. You can see magic being created. Went with the highly recommended main - black cod miso. It is great, buttery, done well. The skin is not crispy and yet tastes good. However, it’s not my favorite. And if you like me, prefer the raw and the cold, ditch this. Ditch this for what? Try the cold ones. Spoilt for choice and if you’ve difficulty choosing, ask the sushi master to do half plates for you. I can’t pick my favorite between the yellowtail jalapeño or the red snapper miso. If I had a rerun, I would do full plates of both. The yellowtail is fresh and extremely light. While the red snapper is citrusy. For dessert, I wish they had options. They had run out of everything and were left with the mochi. It doesn’t disappoint but I wished for variety Breakdown of food scores: 1. Cold plates - 7/5 2. Hot plate - 4/5 3. Dessert - 4/5

Came by for a quick bite. Their basic sushi were small and the dish didn’t taste like top grade sushi compared to other places I’ve been to before. Got a cocktail and that was good though Seems like it is only busy when there are conferences

Had an amazing night at Nobu. The atmosphere is sleek, modern, and has a cool upscale vibe. From start to finish, the staff was on point—attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations. We ordered several dishes, and each one hit the mark. The black cod miso was a standout—perfectly cooked, flavorful, and worth every penny. Sashimi was fresh, melt-in-your-mouth good, and the sushi rolls were some of the best I’ve had. Even the cocktails were impressive. Overall, Nobu totally lived up to its reputation, delivering an awesome experience. Definitely recommend for dinner with friends or a date night—I'll be back for sure.

Such an iconic restaurant and even mentioned in pop culture music, we finally got to try the famous Nobu. We had a reservation for at 7:15 pm. The San Diego Nobu location is inside the Hard Rock Hotel. We started off ordering the Yellowtail Jalapeño, New Style Sashimi (Salmon) and Mushroom Toban Yaki. Our favorite was the Mushroom Toban Yaki, the buttery sauce and marinade was great flavor! We also enjoyed the New Style Sashimi (Salmon) as well due to the late ginger and sesame seeds. We did not enjoy the Yellowtail Jalapeno too much because the lemon flavor was too overpowering. As for the service, it was top tier! Napkins always folded, very attentive employees.
Josh B — Google review
The Nobu restaurant in San Diego impressed us with its exquisite menu and beautiful atmosphere – the food was absolutely amazing, and the setting created the perfect vibe for a great dinner. However, unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. We were celebrating my friend’s birthday and ordered a dessert for her, but it was never brought to the table. When I ordered a dessert for myself, it arrived with a candle and a birthday greeting, which felt odd since it was my friend’s birthday. When we spoke to the waiter, we were told that they only offer ice cream, but even that was never brought for my friend. During dinner, another incident occurred: after we had finished our appetizers and went to the restroom, the staff asked us to leave our credit cards at the table, as if they suspected we might “skip out.” We had left all our belongings, including expensive bags, at the table, which felt very disrespectful. The manager not only didn’t try to smooth things over but sided with the waiter, which left a bad impression. While the food and atmosphere were definitely praiseworthy, the service was disappointing, and these moments really tarnished the overall experience.

Delicious food!! Pork belly tacos were amazing with the crispy fried pork. Tasty Marry Jane sushi roll, a happy hour special 😄 Scallops with mashed potato tasted great as well. My wife and I enjoyed our experience here. We started with drinks, I had an HI Mai Tai and she a mocktail. The Mai Tai was excellent and strong. I was surprised at the number of mocktail options they had on the menu. We had the salmon sashimi, granny and train wreck rolls, truffle fries, and Tokyo shrimp. The train wreck roll was my favorite. Their truffle fries were some of the best we’ve had and the Buffalo Tokyo shrimp was delicious. Service was amazing as well. Everyone liked what they had. The Rainbow sushi was great! We would definitely eat there again.

Great experience! Food was delicious and came super quickly. We had a bunch of small plates to share (5, which was a little more than enough for 2 people). One of my favorite sushi spots in San Diego! If you’re one of those who can’t eat a whole set of rolls by yourself, this is the way to go. With portion setting of 2-4, this is the way to introduce yourself to Japanese sushi. I highly recommend this place. Make sure to , definitely download the app to reserve your spot in line because this place gets packed! Food is served on a conveyor belt and a touchscreen ordering system. First timer and it was a great experience. The plates go slow enough to where you’re not panicking to get what you want. Large amount of choices available. If you’re the type of person who likes to get many different rolls at once or prefers only a few pieces then this is perfect for you. Servers were kind and friendly. It wasn’t too loud and the environment was nice and calm. I believe you do need a reservation although because it was just me and one other person and there was a table available we were served regardless. Definitely returning!

The vibes were there, but the food just didn’t quite hit for me. Potentially didn’t grab the freshest rolls. The system is fairly organized, and we got sat on schedule. Service was friendly, and having a robot was a cute touch. Might have to give it another chance.

When compared to the reviews, I wasn't blown away by the food here. We came here late on a Sat night and got seated immediately even though their wait-list said 35-50 mins. You can't reserve in advance. You can add yourself to the wait-list at the main door. I actually think I enjoyed the experience more because we got seated immediately. I wouldn't have waited for 35-50 mins for this. The revolving bar brings you rolls and nigiri. Now, as compared to other sushi bars I have tried, I felt that Kura did not have as much variety in either. The sushi was just ok flavor wise too. It wasn't as well thought out and some of the nigiri didn't look very appetizing to try. What I liked was that everything on the revolving bar was priced at $3.80. With the revolving sushi bars, you can rack up your bills quite quickly but counting the plates and knowing there was a fixed price, definitely helped us. Service was fast. They have other entree like options but considering that this is a "sushi bar", we only tried the nigiri and the rolls. The wasabi was fresh and the highlight of the whole experience. We were out of there in like 20 mins. I think there are better options out there but this is ok if you just want the experience of a revolving sushi bar.

Great food, it’s fresh and the quality is consistent. Quick service, no wait on weekday afternoons and plenty of parking. $3.85/ plate is good price for the quality of food.
Hailey P — Google review
I love coming here as the sushi is pretty fresh and the cost is very reasonable. Their sushi rolls are just ok, I mainly come here for the nigiri which is absolutely delicious. It is best to make a reservation or join the wait-list early by downloading their app as wait times can be very long due to the popularity of this restaurant and somewhat limited seating. My kids really enjoy putting the plates into the waste bin and having the screen count the plates and show short cartoon videos. You get a prize that rolls out of the gacha machines for every 15 plates.
Jan — Google review
There’s a fun arcade like environment with putting the plates down the chute. You get little charms after every so many plates. Umami oil salmon nigiri is mind blowing. Great for a casual and fun experience.

Incredible experience! We came in 30 minutes before close but didn’t feel rushed at all. The food was amazing of course. Our server (Tasha? Tonya? After we explained we were in town because we evacuated from LA due to the fires, she paid our bill for our group of 3, which was not an insignificant amount. The food here was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff were attentive and everything came out fresh and beautifully prepared. Under normal circumstances, I would have given this place the highest rating. Unfortunately, later that night I discovered a fish bone lodged in my tonsil, which was painful and difficult to remove. While I understand that bones can sometimes slip through during preparation, this was concerning enough that I feel future diners should be aware. I hope the chefs take extra care with their fish cutting in the future, because otherwise this restaurant really does a wonderful job. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and service, but I probably won't be coming back after this experience.

Lumi is a vibrant rooftop Japanese restaurant located in the Gaslamp Quarter, known for its energetic atmosphere and glamorous setting. The menu features a variety of sushi, seafood, and meat plates, along with cocktails and sake. One of its highlights is the signature mystery nazo box experience, where diners can enjoy omakase sushi presented in a unique manner using liquid nitrogen.
I really enjoyed our time at Lumi. Our waiter was so nice and we grazed and drank across their specialty cocktails. The miso eggplant was one of the best dishes... and I don't even like eggplant! Favorite drink was the espresso martini - really smooth and creamy and you cannot go wrong with the Toki Highball. I didn't enjoy the surf and turf sushi but the Sushi Pizza was incredible.

We had a good experience at Lumi for our anniversary. Their staff are very friendly and the rooftop is very fun! The food was good, but definitely overpriced. We liked our drink and they looked cute, but expected a more unique taste. All the fishes were fresh but not as special as I thought it would taste.

What an unexpected positive experience! It is rare to walk into a restaurant in America and feel special; however, from the moment we sat down, it was obvious the staff cared about our experience. Juan, the manager, made certain we were welcomed. Our waitress, Becky, was knowledgeable of the menu and made superb recommendations, based on our personal tastes. She was also a delight to converse with. We were allowed to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. Speaking of our meal, the food was absolutely amazing. Sushi, tomahawk steak, and dessert were all impeccable. We will be back.

I'd been here once before for my birthday, and it was awesome, so I took my mom and sister. Our server Danielle (usually at the bar) was fantastic. She was knowledgeable and attentive without being overwhelming. The music was loud, but it usually is. We were still able to have a conversation and enjoy the rooftop. The food was also pretty good. My miso soup was salty, and I love salt, but I can see it being too much for people who aren't as happy with it. I got the Lumi roll, and it was also good. I have to eat gluten free and wasn't bothered by anything I had that night although, I do with there was more flavor to it. Also, their tamarind margarita was tasty, I had two. Overall solid, I'd go again!

From the moment we arrived, Lumi impressed us with its breathtaking design aesthetic and impeccable service. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday and it was clear that the entire staff from the host to the food runner to our server had read the reservation notes and went above and beyond to make the evening special. Every dish was a showstopper, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The standout favorites for me were the sushi pizza and the seabass specialty roll-absolutely unforgettable. I’ll never not order them when we visit! If you are local check out the Monday night specials. Our server Cassie struck the perfect balance of being attentive without ever feeling intrusive. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations that elevated our experience even further. Thank you for making my friend’s birthday so memorable. We’ll absolutely be back!

First of all, I absolutely love anything crafted by Chef Akira Back. His restaurant in my home city is my favorite for sushi- not only for phenomenal food, but for service. This restaurant lacks in the latter. I travel often for work as a single diner, and whenever I go places, they treat me as if I’m a valuable guest regardless. This is a separate occasion. I was treated as if they couldn’t get rid of me fast enough, even when I was ordering premier items for solely myself. The only saving grace was a young woman who asked me if I wanted another drink after my singular cocktail, which was a glass of wine. I was never checked in on beyond that. Yellowtail at Bellagio in Las Vegas will continue to be my golden standard, but I will never be coming back to this location of Chef Akira Back.

Absolutely love this place in downtown San Diego! From the rooftop ambiance to the menu selection, Lumi is a 10/10. I REALLY liked how they had a mocktail section - I ordered the “soft coffee” and it was delicious! For food, we ordered the yellowtail Serrano (waiter recommendation), 2x Pork Belly’s, and the albacore nigiri. Everything had amazing flavors and was cooked to perfection. I want to shoutout José for being a tentative waiter that provided great recommendations. We enjoyed everything!

Matoi is an exclusive restaurant in San Diego that offers sophisticated multi-course sushi meals, featuring nigiri and sashimi. Despite not being widely recognized in the city, it is considered a hidden gem for sushi enthusiasts. Due to its small size, seating only around ten diners at a time, reservations are highly recommended. Chef TJ is renowned for delivering the freshest fish and providing an authentic dining experience.
TJ is an absolute mastermind that caters to individuals who want the highest possible quality fish and service around. The omakase was sensational, everything was carefully curated and timed one after the other. I can't even say which one was my favorite, but I can say I've never left a sushi restaurant more full and happy. Everything is pristine clean, the ambiance is an intimate quiet setting but happily entertains a more talkative crowd if need be. I will definitely be back, this felt more like a class and introduction to the finest sushi I've ever had than just simple dining, incredible.
Hal J — Google review
A classically run, private Japanese omakase bar in a cozy space. The bar and kitchen are stocked with dozens of small batch, fresh ingredients, which change with the seasons. TJ (owner) and Takahisa (sushi chef) have a wealth of knowledge about their food and cooking techniques. As a starting appetizer, the mozuku was sweet and refreshing with thin angel seaweed and two barnacles. The ankimo (monkfish liver) was rich and dense, offset by lemon, green onion, and other garnishes. The miso tataki highlighted the fresh, meaty chunks of fish with peppercorns and ginger. The sashimi platter offered several seasonal fresh fish slices. The fresh scallops, bigeye tuna from Hawaii, Spanish toro, and raw sweet shrimp were standouts among the great spread. An ice cold oyster was served in a pristine washed shell with sweet and sour ponzu sauce. A great palate cleanser. The sweet shrimp head returned deep fried and crispy, placed on a bed of spicy, slightly acidic sauce. Great combination. A piece of warm, moist, and silky smooth Patagonian tooth fish was served with a miso sauce. It was paired with a fried miniature river crab from Kyushu on a little stack of crisp green beans and sesame sauce. Nice pairing of flavors and textures, along with grabbing you visually. The hamo and shishito tempura was served with three types of flavored salt. The summer eel and the green tea flavored salt was a nice match. The tako with jelly was a cold and clean dish. The octopus was lightly boiled to retain its tenderness and then chilled. The pickled cucumber provided acidity and crunch. It was topped off with a slightly sweetened plum jelly. The nigiri selection was OUTSTANDING. The chefs shared many fresh types of fish. The alfonsino / kinmedai was slightly torched to bring out a rich umami flavor. The tachiuo / silver belt fish was also lightly torched and such a nice bite. The Northern Californian sujiko was ikura joined by the fish’s membrane, which was a first for me. The kamasu / barracuda had a touch of lemon and natural oils. The jabara toro was referred to as tuna ‘bacon’ from Spain - cold, refreshing. The uni / sea urchin was farmed from La Jolla and was the best I’ve tasted (incredible). Overall great selection of fresh seafood that was treated very well by the chefs. We enjoyed learning about the changing seasons influencing Matoi’s daily menu and Matoi’s traditional sushi style from Japan (edomae). Also learned a great deal about the evaluation / decision process when torching / searing fish (based on fat content, skin thickness, fish type, etc.). Among many of TJ’s passionate beliefs is the topic of eating salmon or yellowtail sashimi. Warning - you’ll get a friendly earful of knowledge if you ask 😊

This was our second time at Mario and it was just as in redoble as the first time. It is the most authentic experience we have had outside of Tokyo. Chef is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about sushi and all of the different types of fish. Each dish is excellent and the amount of food you get with the omakase makes it the best sushi deal in town.

Matoi is hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in San Diego. So personable and feels like a meal with an old friend with the chef. Honestly, we only come to dine with the chef cuz he’s hot. Anyway, highly recommend. A true San Diego gem.

Omakase at Matoi is on a whole different level. I got to try so many unique dishes I’d never had before, and the quality was unreal. The chef’s skills, the welcoming vibe, and the top notch service made it feel like an elevated home-cooked meal. It’s casual, fun, and unforgettable, truly a hidden gem and I can’t recommend it enough. Matoi is a must-visit in San Diego.

If you want to eat the best quality and the most delicious Japanese cuisine, this is the place to be. Hands down the best in San Diego. I have been to all the San Diego sushi restaurants and even in Tokyo. TJ, the owner serves the food with so much love and pays attention to every detail meticulously. Matoi stands out amongst all anywhere. It is not just an amazing Omakase, it is a mind blowing experience for me. This one should really be a Michelin star place.
Ji S — Google review
Easily one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had in Southern California—period. From the moment you sit down, Matoi delivers a curated, thoughtful omakase that’s all killer, no filler. Nothing farm-raised, nothing phoned in—just wildly fresh, high-quality cuts that let the fish do the talking. And the value? Ridiculous (in the best way). Easily the best bang-for-your-buck omakase in SoCal. You’re getting an elite sushi bar experience without the ego or the four-figure bill. It was so good I forgot to take photos… and I never forget. That’s how locked in I was. Just me, the fish, and pure happiness.

Makai Sushi is a top-notch spot in San Diego that offers fresh and generous portions of sushi. The Godzilla bowl, especially with the added blue crab, is a must-try. The tostada, featuring a mix of fish and crab, is surprisingly easy to eat without making a mess. While it may be slightly pricey, the quality of the food makes it worth it as everything is made to order and flavorful.
Excellent is an understatement for this place. One of the best sushi I have ever had. Amazingly fresh. Incredible flavorful. Wow!! This place is owner operated. Exceptional guy, what a wonderful person he is. Very kind and knowledgeable. He makes wonderful Hawaiian sushi here. Very clean and well maintained place. Good portion size for the price. A must have. Definitely visit if you are in San Diego. This place is truly a 5 star experience overall.

Really solid sushi spot. The menu’s small but classy. I got the Hapa Roll and a Salmon Burrito—both were super fresh and seriously tasty. The Hapa Roll was big, filling, and the wasabi? Surprisingly awesome. Felt like it was just made. The Salmon Burrito was the star though—salmon, avocado, cucumber—all came together perfectly. Just one of those bites where you’re like “yo, this is good.” It’s a bit on the pricier side (about $40 for both), but the quality’s there. Definitely coming back to try more. Almost forgot, top notch service and felt very welcoming, cool owners.

Went here for the first time on Sunday with my friends after Comic-Con ended. We arrived around the last hour, but Matthew was very kind to take on our orders nonetheless. I ordered the Godzilla poke bowl (ahi tuna, salmon, and blue crab) and it was delicious! One of my friends ordered a sushi burrito and that looked yummy too. Matthew was the only worker that day in the restaurant, but I was impressed by his friendliness and how quickly he worked. Not only did he take our orders, but he prepared all of our dishes and served them to us. I definitely will come back here the next time I’m in San Diego!
Brytanya L — Google review
I first had an amazing plate back in September of 2019, in Kauai. I have been following Mathew’s business since then and I finally took another visit! It was great seeing his business up and running in Hillcrest! You can see and taste the hard work he’s placed on Makai Sushi - the plates themselves are beautiful and vibrant! Must try! You won’t be disappointed! If it’s your first time - I highly recommend the Ahi Bowl!!!!
Adilene A — Google review
This is a must-visit sushi restaurant for anyone who enjoys quality fish. It was absolutely what I was looking for and it lived up to their perfect rating, I cannot recommend Makai strongly enough, whether you’re a local or just visiting San Diego. I sincerely hope one day they also open a spot in Los Angeles. You can taste the quality with every bite, and I was excited to learn they use fresh crab instead of imitation, and every ingredient they use is fresh. Their menu is broken up into 4 sections: Poke Bowls, Sushi Rolls, Sushi Burritos, and Specials. The sushi rolls are on the larger side, and roll prices range from $14-$19. Some of their signature bowls are the Gorilla Poke Bowl (ahi tuna & salmon, $21) and the Godzilla Poke Bowl (ahi tuna, salmon, fresh blue crab, $23), both seem an amazing value. Poke Bowls are served on a bed of sushi rice & mixed greens, topped with avocado, cucumber, wasabi aioli, unagi sauce, sweet & green onion, roasted sesame seeds & tobiko. Since I’ve never had a Sushi Burrito but I’ve seen them on social media and was intrigued, that ended up earning my order. It’s rolled in soy paper instead of seaweed so it’s less chewy and it’s a perfect texture experience while you’re eating - and it’s also absolutely delicious. I went with the Hapa Sushi Burrito with ahi tuna and fresh crab, which also had rice, perfect avocado, and refreshing and crisp cucumber. Each bite was perfect, and it was served with a side of ginger, wasabi, and gluten free soy sauce. Not on the menu, but they also have a fresh fish of the day sashimi style, and today it was blue fin tuna for $20. He even gave us complimentary water bottles & banana pudding since we said it was our first time There’s plenty of metered street parking on Fifth Ave, and the meters are free on Sundays so we lucked out! He moved from Hawaii 2 years ago to start this business, and hospitality is everything to Matthew (chef & owner) and he really lives that. Incredibly nice and relatable, he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a private dining room, with casual laid-back tropical vibes and very good energy. If I lived in San Diego, I know this would be a weekly spot for me, great for lunch or dinner! I let him know that I’m gluten free, and he said that could easily accommodate, and even had gluten free soy sauce for me! I love when restaurants make you feel welcome even with dietary restrictions and allergies, and I felt fantastic after I finished my food. Top notch service & top notch sushi!

What is a real five star dining experience? Now that the power of giving out stars is in the hands of the masses, I’ve seen a lot of very loose five star ratings given out like candy to the undeserving. With all due respect to those reviewers, I don’t know what their foundation of experience is, so what for me may be a two or three star experience may indeed feel like a five star experience for them. Frankly, if I set out to find a five star experience, I’m expecting it to be top-notch in every respect. As a result, I find many reviews and rankings to be somewhat misleading. That’s a long way of saying, that I have been very spoiled by the dining experiences in my life, and I maintain very high expectations! So back to my original question…. What is a real 5 star dining experience? Makai Sushi without question is a 5 star establishment. It’s a small space so prioritize getting in there before the rest of Southern California! They do have a small event space adjacent for overflow seating, which is convenient. When we went, there was a very small but amazing staff. Front of house was held down by Gracie, who was gracious, accommodating, and very passionate about the menu. We instantly felt welcomed to what seemed like a family dining room. The owner Matthew is also the head chef. This guy has James Beard or Michelin on his future roadmap if he stays the course. He managed to come out front occasionally to greet or thank people while at the same time turning out the most artistically creative and flavorful seafood dishes I have ever had. Typically, I am reluctant to give out a five star review until I have been to an establishment multiple times. In this case, I can wholeheartedly endorse Makai Sushi. It’s worth whatever kind of driving conditions California throws at you to make your way to this incredibly creative restaurant before they absolutely go viral!

I’ve been here so many times—it’s hands down my favorite sushi spot in San Diego! The food is always amazing and the prices are super reasonable. We have been to this location for years but the recent changes are not great. Menu: there's now Korean food on the menu which for us is a little odd for a Japanese sushi restaurant that has only served Japanese cuisine. Food: Gyozar quality is the same though the sauce was changed with a less vinegary taste to it. The basic rolls (rainbow, caterpillar) have been the same and decent. Star Wars roll is better with more jalapeño and less batter/greasy. California roll is worse with ineffective rolling that makes it fall apart as soon as you pick it up. The eel hand roll is not the same with too much sauce that makes the whole roll very soggy and fall apart before you can finish it. Service: got seated very quickly Overall: a little disappointed with the new "update"

I've lived in Mission valley for 20 years. This restaurant has been around for a few, but I had never been until now. I would say that I really hadnt missed out all these years. Food is mediocre. Definitely not authentic Japanese food. Service is definitely one star or less. Good luck getting attention from your server. They also don't seem to appreciate your business either... It's very strange. This girl with glasses who does nothing but standing at the hostess booth.. she literally ignored me every time I asked for something. This blonde guy with glasses gave me my check. I paid. No "thank you," or "come again." I'd rather eat sushi at Costco next door.

Cannonball restaurant, located on Ocean Front Walk, Belmont Park in Mission Beach, is an open air facility, partially covered, upstairs. They serve "fancy", excellent sushi and Japanese dishes. We were a party of six, and several of us had been several times before. This was my wife and my first time. The service was excellent. The place is very popular and the food arrived on the slow side, ok because we were enjoying. Be advised, if you arrive after about 3p, don't sit facing the west. Brutal sun! It was a great experience, and we will likely return.

I had the freshest experience at Cannonball the restaurant faces the ocean and the view was amazing. Everything was wonderful from the fresh appetizers, tuna, the chef special sashimi fresh as the ocean. The shrimp tempura crispy and tasty. All of the rolls were on point and delightful. The R&B roll had steak asparagus with the taste of chili and garlic to awaken your taste buds. The Bone in Ribeye with the shishito peppers made this medium well steak delightful. The cocktails had the right blend of alcohol. The best part of the evening was the view of the sunset. The perfect end to my summer vacation in Carlsbad.

Choosing birthday dinner spot in San Diego is a hard decision but I’m so glad I chose Cannonball! Our waitress was very kind and friendly and we really enjoyed our visit. Sat right on the edge of the restaurant with a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. We ordered the salted edamame and the crispy octopus as appetizers. Super yummy. As for sushi, we ordered the Red Dragon, Rainbow, and Tokyo Nights rolls. Presentations were jaw-dropping and flavors were very fresh and creative. We also enjoyed the Flying Crane and the Coral Dragon drinks. The Coral Dragon did have a little kick with the jalapeño tequila, but it wasn’t too spicy. We were brought a birthday complimentary matcha tres leches cake for dessert and it was so good! I was so happy with our experience and service here. Loved walking down to the beach after dinner to top off a lovely evening. Parking in the Mission Beach public parking lot was a little tricky, but we found a spot after circling around a couple times. Since the restaurant is outdoor and on the rooftop next to the ocean, I’d suggest bringing a jacket. They do have heating lamps next to the tables though!

Fresh flavors, stunning rooftop, and creative cocktails! I had an amazing lunch at Cannonball and can’t stop thinking about how fresh and flavorful everything was. The Cannonball Chopped Salad with grilled salmon was next-level—bright, colorful, and crunchy with the perfect balance of sweet mandarin segments and spicy peanuts. Honestly one of the best salads I’ve had in San Diego! We also ordered the Tokyo Nights roll—a stunning combo of crispy fried yellowtail, avocado, tuna, and a touch of cilantro aioli. Every bite was beautifully balanced and super fresh. To start, we had the garlic edamame, which came out piping hot and loaded with flavor (and generous garlic and salt). Definitely worth the upgrade. For drinks, the Lilikoi Collins was a standout—tropical, tart, and bubbly with a refreshing citrus twist. Loved that it was zero-proof, but still felt festive. Service was friendly and quick, and the rooftop view adds a whole vibe. Perfect spot for sushi lovers, sunset dates, or just treating yourself to great food with an ocean breeze. 🌊🍣🍹

This is now the single best authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve been to. Best sushi that I’ve had in San Diego since I moved back from Japan. Fresh and excellent flavor in every dish, roll, and plate. The Sapporo on draft was so flavorful as well. I might return here to a spot right in my neighborhood before I travel to Convoy for my high grade sushi next time.

Came here on a Sunday so it was nice and slow. My dad and I really like Japanese food so I would say this is up to par. We got a simi sushi roll, gyoza, vegetable fried rolls, and vege+chicken yakisoba. It was all good, I feel though the sushi was not the same as it was on menu like the picture did not match the real thing. Which is okay! Just caught it as interesting. The staff were super nice and attentive. And at the end we got some plum wine and a chocolate mochi dessert and against what my dad thought the mochi would taste like he really liked it surprisingly and so did i. It was a very light and refreshing dessert. All and all definitely a nice little Japanese restaurant.

Our first time trying out Umi Sushi. Good menu selection, nice presentation. Dishes clean, undamaged, no water spots. Tables clean. Sashimi was fresh, cuts were smallish to medium in size. Rolls smallish to medium in size. Rice was OK. Beer was cold. Hot sake could be hotter, but it was still good. Service was good. Pricing reasonable. Little to no wait time at dinner service. Overall a pleasant experience, highly recommend if you are in the area and you have a hankering for sushi. Would dine again.

Always kind and helpful staff with quick service. Their lunch specials between 11 and 3 are an amazing deal! Great sushi and bento boxes.

Small entrance but spacious inside. Menu has lots of options. I had a "Fire" baked sushi roll and tempura—sauce-heavy but filling, shrimp was good, zucchini bitter. My husband had sashimi, which looked less fresh but tasted fine. Overall, 6-7/10. Wasabi tasted off, like bean powder. Average spot, decent for North County.

RB Sushi in San Diego was amazing. We especially enjoyed the fresh fish, creative rolls and excellent service. Great value and quality-highly recommend for sushi lovers. Menu highlight, order the eel, salmon belly and California roll. We ordered for pick up and enjoyed at home.

Amazing spot! Service was fast and the food was awesome with good size portions. Kryptonite roll is 🔥

Food is nice. We are veggie so order same stuff regularly but gave 4 stars as sometimes it is inconsistent. One time we added extra noodles and it came with pretty much same quantity. On time they did not gave salad and soup. So just check your food before take away. But food is good, I only say about vegetarian

Warning: they charge for leftovers here! It's a great place for all-you-can-eat. They have lots of options and the flavor isn't that bad. Service is also very nice. Their ice cream is a bit sweet in case you're used to the more subtle green tea ice cream. Cool place and recommended for you if you want to eat a lot of sushi, as long as you finish it!

Been coming here for decades. In fact I have a few of their t-shirts from past birthday celebrations. A good variety of food though it is no longer all you can eat. Also, a great selection of beer and sake. Excellent service and a great vibe. Be back soon.

(May 2025). I have been to RB Sushi several times. Their food is consistently excellent, American-Asian variety. Service is friendly and professional, and the dining atmosphere is good. Also plenty of parking nearby. The sushi is the best I have eaten. Overall a good dining or take-out experience.

Sushi Deli 3 is a popular and bustling sushi restaurant known for its generous portions of high-quality seafood at great prices. It's considered the best among the Sushi Deli stores, offering Japanese-inspired cuisine with a creative twist on classic sushi. The restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating areas, as well as friendly and attentive service. While it can get very busy, the wait is worth it for their delicious food, especially for vegetarians.
We got seated quickly on a Saturday night, and service was great! They came just often enough to be convenient and not annoying. I spotted this place because I've never seen such cheap nigiri in San Diego, especially with this rating, and we were not disappointed. The salmon nigiri was really good (and pretty big), and the yellowtail was solid (though not amazing). The albacore was also pretty good. I was also impressed by the rolls. Usually I find the rolls to be a little lower quality in most places, but these were really tasty! They also didn't fall apart, which was nice. We got the Bestseller combo, and the fish, shrimp, and crab were all very fresh.
Kevin F — Google review
Everything was good, especially their gen z roll .. appetizers were amazing. Some of the rolls pieces had little to no filling only reason I don't get rid of full five stars but worth the price and on the last note the sushi robe with the mango needs a larger piece of mango. The cream cheese really overpowered the mango

Stopped in for a late lunch and was impressed with both the food and the service. We started with avocado tempura, crab lagoon and the monkey brains, all were delicious. The monkey brains have spicy tuna with crab wrapped around it and then tempura. We tried a number of rolls and liked them all. Our waitress helped us decide and everything was great. All the staff were very helpful.

The sushi deli one block from Convoy was great, fresh and large portions. Prices are fantastic. It was a little over $10 for a caterpillar roll. A dragon roll was $14 and the bento boxes which come with miso soup and a drink were $11 m-f till 2:30pm. The prices are crazy good and the food was great. Parking can be tricky, they have no parking lot just street parking available so be ready to walk a bit. Price, value and over all good food, we will be going back!

Highly recommended, just know it gets very busy and it will take time to get your food. Suggest looking at the menu before arriving and ordering as soon as you are seated. Dropped a star on service as the server was switched on us and we had no idea who was taking care of our table. In the end, it was a good visit.

Sushi deli's been a staple for a long time. Cheap and decent sushi . Would recommend getting one of the Combos ( Best Seller or the 4x4 ) . Also try going on Thursdays, as they have some of their old menu items (order the Scallop Dynamite and the SD Fries for a good appetizer)

Izakaya Masa is a cozy Japanese spot that offers a wide selection of sake, beer, and soju along with sushi, ramen, and udon. Their basic ramen bowls are priced at an affordable $11 and come in tonkotsu or shoyu broth options. The menu also includes hot and cold small plates, sushi, cut rolls, sashimi, rice bowls, and donburi.
Went for the first time last Friday and it was SO good. Expect a wait but it’s totally worth it. We got so much food and everything tasted amazing, especially the sashimi.
Jules T — Google review
Nice vibe, prices are understandable. Staff is attentive and kind. This restaurant has a variety of Japanese classic dishes. It’s not strictly nor majority sushi. Both the rainbow roll and the cali roll had whole chuncks (not shredded) of crab which took most of the flavor away. It would have been better with the mix spicy mayo or reg mayo. The veggie gyoza had limited flavor. I was glad to see a veggie option but it would be nice if it had a pop of flavor. The mackerel was enjoyable in texture however the flavor could be punched up a bit (slightly bland).
Vanessa O — Google review
Izakaya is located in Mission Hills. They don’t take reservations so make sure to get there early! Our party of 2 arrived right at opening and we were seated immediately but within 30 minutes, the tables filled fast. Parking/Environment: Dedicated parking lot in front with limited spots. Metered street parking spots available around the restaurant. Traditional Japanese style restaurant inside. There were many 2 person tables, a handful of 4 table seats, and some bar seating. All indoors. Service: Our waitress always checked in on us, water was always filled, and each item came out in a timely manner. Food: -Soft Shell Crab Tempura ($13): 2 small whole crabs deep fried with sauce on the side; this was delicious, I highly recommend -Gyoza ($6): 6 pieces pan fried -Caterpillar Roll ($14): delicious if you’re an eel lover -Lobster Dynamite Roll ($17): also delicious -Una Don ($19): eel bowl with rice; good enough to share if you’re getting more entrees Overall: I really enjoyed this place and would definitely come back. Remember to come close to opening especially if you have a larger party!

This spot was gas!!! Meaning sooo good!!! My first time and yes I had to wait and put my name on the paper as everybody will too but the food is worth it!!! I ordered the Bacon And Garlic Sprout Saute. (Fresh Green Bean Sprouts) Spider Special Roll (Soft Shell Crab Tempura, Avocado, & Caviar). Lobster Dynamite Special Roll. (Lobster, Avocado, Caviar & Spicy Mayo W/ Green Soy Paper) Hakata Ramen (Sliced Pork 2pc, Fried Garlic, Green Onion, Dried Seaweed, And Red Ginger). Donburi (Over Rice) Salmon Teriyaki

Love the vibe of the place!! Feels like a Japanese whole-in-the-wall restaurant. Tuna tartare was delicious and the California roll was great as well. Ramen was a bit disappointing, so that is why 4 stars. Given the prices and Japanese beer on draft ( Sapporo and Asahi) definitely worth a visit!!

Delicious sushi for a great value, the atmosphere is so welcoming and authentic, I truly feel like I am in Japan. Super fast and quality service! Family owned, the owners are hard working and extremely nice! I would highly recommend!

One of the best izakaya in San Diego! Very good service, set in an authentic Japanese ambience. All the foods we ordered (Saba, kama, a few different kinds of ramen, and, salmon soup bowl) were top notch.
John L — Google review
Had to come due to reviews here, Sunday night, kinda busy I can see, but I had to ask to refill water, I had to ask sides (sushi ginger/wasabi) I had even asked fresh wasabi they don’t have which gives me 0 standard of sushi, Very minimal amount of everything with the price, they don’t even have options except basic tuna, yellowtail and salmon. For sushi place seriously?! Additionally, the service left much to be desired. There was no apparent interest in ensuring a positive dining experience, with staff merely checking in to ask if we wanted more, which felt more like an effort to rush customers out than to provide genuine service. Based on this visit, I would not return. While I did not encounter any major issues, the overall lack of attention and service left a negative impression

Taka Restaurant, nestled in the vibrant Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, offers a delightful fusion of Japanese cuisine with an American flair. This charming eatery is a haven for sushi lovers, featuring seasonal sushi and sashimi crafted from fish imported directly from Japan. The experience here is akin to taking your taste buds on a journey to Japan without leaving the city! During our visit, we stumbled upon Taka by chance before catching a show nearby. What a wonderful surprise it turned out to be!
February 2025 We enjoyed our fabulous meal here especially the fresh and flavorful yellow tail Kama. We were grateful the attentive waitstaff offered the half portion of sashimi so we can try different selection. This restaurant is worth revisiting. My rating as 5 is very satisfied Taste 5/5 Temperature 5/5 Attentiveness 5/5 Speed of service 5/5 Cleanliness 5/5

Without a doubt, my meal at this restaurant was the absolute standout of my entire trip. The tuna... simply melted in my mouth. The texture was unbelievably smooth and the flavor was so fresh and clean. However, the yellowtail belly was on another level entirely. It was, without exaggeration, exceptional. The richness and delicate sweetness of the fish were perfectly balanced, creating a taste sensation I won't soon forget.
Joo S — Google review
Got the Omakase ($130+ per person). The appetizer consisted of ankimo (monk fish liver, jelly fish, firefly squid, uni/oyster/ikura). It were decent. Nigiri: 15-pieces which were all good quality and some premium cuts like toro and rarity like nodoguro. The San Diego uni melted in my mouth. I liked that they deep fried the shrimp head at the end to turn it into a little crispy snack. Small dessert at the end of the course: Japanese style baked cheese cake. Not too sweet, which I liked. The server was friendly and polite. Many Japanese staff including the chefs. A few irks regarding service: -No おしぼり (hot towel) -No pickled ginger to reset the palate -No hot tea at the end (you order separately) -No mention of our special occasion (despite us specifically mentioning it when reserving on Google Maps) Overall kind of middle/upper middle sushi restaurant. I wish they were more traditional.

The food was very good. On another level compared to DC and the Central East Coast. We often order common for US types of rolls when we are the first time in a restaurant just to see "what do they do here?" And... did Isaid "another level" before? Well, but it was on another level!

The quality of their sashimi is one of the freshest that I know. Presentation is also nice. There’s no doubt about their food. We were so pleased with this place the first time when we were there a few years ago, we made sure to come back here this time in San Diego. While the food quality remains excellent, the atmosphere was not the same. Although most of the sushi chefs were still Japanese, all waiters were different now. The decor and wait staff have lost the Japanese touch. Don’t get me wrong. The waiters were still doing a fine job, but just had different styles I suppose. Plus their prices seemed to have gone up as well. Price tag is too high even for excellent food quality like theirs.

Omakase sashimi, from chef Taka himself. This is truly the best meal I have eaten in my life, and it was a profound experience. Calling this a treat would not be doing it justice. Giving this restaurant 5 stars invalidates every other review I’ve written because this food has absolutely elevated what “5 stars” means for me.

Sushi Kami is a popular sushi restaurant with affordable and fresh sushi. The menu has a variety of options, from 10-piece combos to as many as 20-pieces. The restaurant has comfortable seating inside and out, and the staff are friendly.
Fish is sooo fresh and delicious. I tried the lemon salmon and Baja Cali both fresh and delicious, the jalapeno bomb is very good if you like tempura. Service was great and friendly

Sushi Kami is an unassuming sushi spot in Rancho Bernardo area. They may be Korean-owned because I heard their staff speaking Korean amongst themselves. They have a small parking lot. Across the street is Phil's BBQ. They have an extensive menu. They list a bunch of rolls, but it would be helpful to have photos. Sushi is good. Udon is good. The rolls we got were really pretty. Maybe it was the lighting or the ingredients they use in the sauce. They were glazed-looking rather than doused in spicy mayo sauce. When we first got there we had to wait because they didn't have tables available for five people. But when we checked in a second time, they asked if we wanted a booth table and have a chair at the side. Why didn't they say that in the beginning??
Clara C — Google review
We ordered in advance during Valentine’s Day . The location is a little inconvenient to drive into, but both crazy- the turn coming from the freeway is easy to confuse and the U-turn you have to make is awkward. The restaurant was pretty empty but it looked clean. The staff was a little cold to us but we received good service. We got to the restaurant and our food still took an extra 10-15 minutes to be ready. The food was good, they use good quality ingredients, the rice was fresh, and overall had a nice flavor. The one, pretty big, complaint I had was- my boyfriend and I ordered one roll each, but for some reason they put them both in one box. We were staying at a hotel so we had to split the box in half and move one roll using our hands (which was hard because of the toppings and sauce). Overall, it’s good and I would eat it again, but not it’s not really that memorable, and I would ask for separate boxes for take out, since it’s not obvious apparently.

Fresh sashimi, friendly service, easy parking, and place is cute! We went around 12:30pm on a Wednesday and there was no wait. My husband and I each for a chirashi bowl. They came with miso soup. The fish tasted fresh and we saw some other tables order rolls and sushi nigiri that looked great. We spent $60 before tip. We were satisfied with the food quality and experience. I would come back and probably try one of the rolls or the nigiri! I also love when the staff is friendly !

We were doing errands in the area and I discovered this great sushi place hidden right by some office buildings. This place looks tiny on the outside but is the perfect fit for a nice lunch. The decorations and environment really sets the scene for the sushi. They have a great layout for lunch and a nice menu full of specials and numerous rolls. The waitress was great and had plenty of recommendations. We ordered a few rolls as well as a lunch special for our table. The food prices especially the lunch special offers all come with miso soup, salad, and the prices are great! They cater a lot to the local businesses. The rolls and food were delicious. Highly recommend this place for a perfect lunch and dinner place! Check it out!

Fresh sushi featuring sushi bar staples as well as an assortment of interesting rolls, including one with steak in it and another garnished with salsa. I had the submarine roll, which was a spicy tuna roll topped with fresh salmon and avocado. The vegetable roll was one of the better ones in town with a wide variety of vegetables in it. Also serves cooked foods and has a kids menu. Pleasant environment with very cordial service. Plenty of parking.

I can't believe I've lived in this neighborhood for 3 years and have never tried out this place! Will definitely be coming back again. Absolutely love sushi, and Sushi Kami's was fantastic. For an appetizer, I tried out the Agedashi Tofu. Delicious and nicely fried. The Touch Mango Roll was so good. I wanted to try out something different, and who knew mango goes so well on a sushi roll?! The squid nigiri was also yummy. The service was excellent. The waiters/waitresses were very friendly from the moment I stepped into the restaurant up until I left. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone .

Almost by chance, on a walk, my wife and I found a delicious place in our neighborhood. Just off freeway 15 is SushiKami, a Japanese food restaurant with excellent service. This time it was a lunch where we were able to try two of the dishes recommended by the house in their specials. A satisfactory experience, good flavor and quality of fresh products, our waitress was very kind and helped us at all times and took care of us very well. The restaurant in general has a very good sushi bar with a fairly balanced menu. An interesting beer and wine bar. The service was quite fast, and the quality of the food standard and fresh. Accessible parking but with a little traffic due to its proximity to the highway exit. My recommendation is if you are going to go Friday Saturday and Sunday dinner time is to make a reservation to avoid waiting due to the capacity of the place. Good for celebrating family birthdays.

Always delicious fast friendly service! I’ve had quite a variety of items from the menu and I have enjoyed everything I’ve ever ordered. Lunch specials are tasty. Rolls are deliciously crafted and I’m a big fan of the miso soup and poke bowl. Noodles are flavorful and filling! Great option for those looking for a great meal reasonably priced.

Very nice staff, quick sitting and the food arrived quickly. The miso soup was very good, the sashimi was good and fresh but bit small portion, the California roll was the perfect size. When the sushi arrived they didn’t give us the wasabi and ginger on the side and the soy sauce tray. Si we had to ask for them. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was that they didn’t have natural lemonade so we didn’t order it. But overall I would come back even if it was a bit noisy. The good thing for me was that it was very close to the place i was staying.

Little Sakana All You Can Eat Sushi is a vibrant and welcoming Japanese sushi bar that offers both a la carte and all-you-can-eat options. Founded by locals from Mira Mesa, it's a fantastic place to enjoy delicious sushi with friends and family. The restaurant has received great reviews for its outstanding customer service, fresh and flavorful sushi, and efficient delivery of orders.
First time visiting from out of town. I was solo, so seated pretty quickly. The place was rather busy, so it was apparent that it must be good...and it was. All you can eat for 38 bucks was a great value, and I left not only satisfied with the food quality, but satisfied with the service and amount of food I got for that price. Everything was fresh and I was astonished at just how quickly the food made it to my table. I will be returning when I'm back k in town and may even bring a friend or two with me. Make sure you get there early!

I was on vacation but I'm a huge fan of this sushi spot. Will 100% be returning. The quality of fish was some of the best I've had in a long time. Service was great. Despite being busy, they always got our food out relatively quickly. Our Server (Anne) was awesome and she deserves a raise!!! Wait was really long, but definitely worth it. We tried nearly all the rolls, but the albacore delight roll was the the best on the whole menu! (We are big backs and ordered like 12 of them)

We loved our food and had such a fun experience! I like that the portions are small so you can try lots of different things. Our waitress Katelyn was amazing and on top of everything, even on a busy Saturday. We enjoyed his service and pleasant demeanor. I mentioned to him we came to celebrate my son’s birthday; at the end of our meal, he and two other staff brought my son a cup of vanilla ice cream with a candle coupled with a “Happy Birthday” sign and wished my son a happy birthday. Nice touch! : ) Note: The $31.99 lunch doesn’t include chef’s special (only dinner), drinks and dessert are extra charge.

Every time we're in the area, this is our go-to place. Our favorite piece would have to be the ex-boyfriend. We had many nigiri pieces, like the sashimi salad, garlic ponzu salmon, and the umani oil salmon! For the rolls, we had the firecracker and it had rich flavors! Most of the time this place is busy, so you'll have to come earlier in the day to avoid wait time. The interior has beautiful art, you'll see them once you come in. They have both AYCE and regular menus, whichever one you prefer. I recommend this place to everyone, especially if you're in the area. Parking can be difficult at times because it's next to Vons and CVS, but it's worth being patient.

Temaki Bar Sushi, led by renowned chef JoJo Ruiz, offers a traditional sushi experience with made-to-order hand rolls meant to be savored immediately. The signature tuna roll and sustainably sourced seafood options are popular choices. The restaurant also boasts a diverse selection of Japanese beer, sake, and wines alongside eclectic art by Todd DiCiurcio. The lively and interactive atmosphere of the bar seating adds to the overall dining experience.
Excellent sushi - the fish is so fresh and tender. Skip the traditional rolls and try the hand rolls, it’s what they’re known for, hence the name Temaki. We loved the lobster, spicy scallop and the pop and rock hand rolls. The super ninja buddy roll is killer, so many flavors. So grateful for so many gluten free options too!

We loved dining at the location in Vegas and loved that Encinitas does not come with the Vegas price tag and the space can fit so many people but the quality was lacking. We got the 5 set (salmon, shrimp, scallop, yellowtail, spicy tuna) and added three more (blue crab, toro, albacore). Spicy tuna is always good because of the crispies. Salmon is usually good but I find that the shrimp had the most flavor. The scallops were creamy and bland. The blue crab had no flavor. Basically most were lacking flavor. They say hand rolls are best to be consumed within the first 10 seconds to get the best crispy crunchiness of the nori. Well, it was a big disappointment because the nori was chewy and didn’t break off easily at every bite. That’s supposed to be the most satisfying. Good thing we always order a side of yuzukoshu. We also got the temaki spicy. 2 for 1 sauce deal. Everything taste better if dipped in this sauce. Now I need redemption at the Vegas location next month to complete my hand roll craving.

Gage, Kevin, and Derek made some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The service was incredible I have to shout out Max as well. We never had an empty glass or an empty tummy. It was collectively a perfect experience. This is the place you take your friends and family to because you love the experience. Yes, the food is amazing but it really is the whole experience. From the flavor, to the people, to the ambience. It truly has it all and that’s why it gets 5 stars all around. If you don’t know now you know.

We will be back in Cali and I can not wait to eat here again! Stand out to me was the speciality Salmon Nigiri roll, literally one of the best things I’ve ever tasted! Try out a cocktail while you too too! Thank you for an awesome experience

My friend and I had lunch here, and everything was fantastic. The sushi we ordered, including hand rolls and nigiri, was incredibly fresh and delicious. The miso soup, green tea, and sake were also excellent. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the restaurant felt very clean. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We were extremely satisfied with our experience and highly recommend this place!

Sushi California style. Service is quick and friendly. The open air restaurant is classic casual California. They serve a variety of hand rolls, nigiri and sushi. Sake, beer, and wine round out the alcoholic beverages. Food is solid.

We were upset after visiting this place. We came home (2 hours by car from this place) and saw that $120.72 was taken from our account, although it was not dinner, we just hop over to have a snack and did not order much. We ordered: Rainbow roll - $16 3 hand roll (set) - $17 Sapporo - $8 Sake - $13 Total - $54 Ok, plus tax and tips, but not $120! The whole impression of this place was ruined… Be careful and check the receipt!

How do you make salmon tasteless? How does it take 15 minutes to bring chopsticks? How can you put nigiri on the menu for TWELVE DOLLARS and not mention that it only comes with 2 pieces? Oh did I mention the salmon is tasteless? Oh and if you ask for a drink besides water they give you a can? Soda syrup and carbonated water are so cheap that almost every restaurant has them. BUT NOOOO not these guys. Oh and did I mention the salmon is tasteless?

Saiko Sake and Sushi Bar is a sleek Japanese restaurant located in San Diego's North Park district. The eatery offers carefully sourced sushi, microbrew sake, and a welcoming patio for guests to enjoy. The menu features high-quality sushi, including the popular Popcorn Chicken and Pork Fried Rice dishes. Ingredients are locally caught by fishermen from Southern California's waters.
Some of the best Sushi in Southern California. Last night we did an event having Anthony the owner / chef present with 2 guests talking about the fish we were eating and the sake we were drinking. I would highly recommend trying both locations and attending one of these dinner events.

Came here for dinner on a Thursday night around 730 - will have to come back for happy hour! The food and drinks were great and the waitresses were really nice and gave great recommendations. We had the fruity sake flight which was really good and the Saiko nigiri flight special which came with 5 different kinds of fish. The house edamame is seasoned well and the ritual roll was unique and had chimichurri, definitely recommend! We ended the meal with ice cream and to my surprise, the eel was my favorite! I don't usually like eel sauce but it wasn't fishy at all and the saltiness went well with the sweet ice cream 😊

Not sure why I haven't done a review sooner, ad I've LOVED this place for years. Traditional sushi gets NO better than at Saiko. Chef Anthony is amazing and knows what he's doing, so even the modern stuff will impress. Of course the Sake is top notch and thier flights let you sample, sample, sample! Atmosphere 10/10, service 12/10, food 15/10

We came here for happy hour while on vacation in San Diego with friends. The food was really great. We had mostly happy hour specials, but did order some things off the regular menu, and we thought the prices were reasonable on everything. We sat in the bar area, and the bartender Michelle took great care of us. She was very friendly and helped guide us to some tasty items, and her drinks were fabulous! I really enjoyed the Dirty Talk Martini, which was her creation. Would highly recommend this place!

Delicious sushi and sashimi at a price. Went for dinner and ordered food and drinks. Most notable items: Sushi was delicious and a wide variety of specials to your taste Sashimi: super good but pricey, the chef special are especially tasty but smaller portions for their price in my opinion Sake flight: lots of nice options and very reasonable price Based on price point you may want to order differently though all the food was great.

One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. The service here alone is enough to warrant a visit. I have a very mild food allergy and the sushi bar and staff went out of their way to accommodate me. The food is always so good. Great, creative rolls with amazing fresh fish. So delicious. They were really understaffed during our visit and still made a point to be so kind and serve us an amazing dinner.

First time here. Had a few drinks and some sushi rolls. They were good. Nothing crazy but it’s definitely a place I would come back. The ambience was really nice too. The servers were great. Located on the main street of North Park. I do recommend.

Sushi Diner 2, located at 7530 Mesa College Dr B in San Diego, is a popular spot known for its Jamaican-themed rasta and surf decor with reggae music. This restaurant offers a unique fusion of traditional Japanese sushi with Jamaican and Hawaiian influences. The vibrant atmosphere draws in college crowds and features a strong Bob Marley theme. Despite being busy, the staff are friendly and efficient.
Small little joint with limited seating but very good food! Had a 5min wait before being seated. The staff was nice and attended to the party of 3 quickly and got us our order in a timely manner. The food was fresh and tasted very good.

My family of 5 really enjoyed it here! All manner of rolls and dishes with amusing names. Friendly service and a chill atmosphere! Decent prices and seemed worth the bill as we enjoyed the overall experience. It's hard to find places that earn their money these days, I feel this place did!

Came here for dinner last night. The food was really good. The quality was really fresh and clean. The restaurant was busy but we got seated pretty fast. The theme of restaurant is a Hawaiian. It's cool. I will be coming back again. Thank you

We have been getting take-out from this restaurant for a long time. Since the new owners have taken over, quality (and quanity) has really gone down. They have cut back on the amount of seaweed salad served with sashimi, have forgotten to include ginger and wasabi, and most recently cut back on the miso soup serving. In our recent order, the soup was only 1/4 full. In our previous order, the pieces of sashimi were much smaller than they had been preciously. Whule it has been inconsistent, it seems they are always cutting back on something. We were loyal customers for a long time, but now looking for someplace new.
Chris M — Google review
I love this place!!! Considering I don't really like sushi, that's saying a lot. The evening is always busy, and be aware of their hours because they close for a while during the day and stop taking orders 15-ish min before close. I always order to-go. The food is incredibly delicious, but the monkey brains are my absolute favorite. The prices are great for the quantity and quality. They have a very friendly, relaxed, and laid back style. The place is small for both customers and employees, large parties would be better off ordering for pick up.

Food was excellent! Truly enjoyed the flavors and freshness of the fish. Beverages-Sapporo and Large Sake- yeah! It rocked for end of work day drink. Service- Our server was so kind, explained the menu, and made us feel like we were the only ones on the whole place. (Even though the restaurant was full). Ambiance: Hawaiian theme and I felt like I was in Hawaii.

Been eating here for years. Noticed that ever since new ownership took over, the sushi rolls are noticiably smaller while prices stayed the same. What made this place stand out in the past was that it had the best overall value - generous, tasty, fresh portions for a fair price. May have to look for a new sushi spot that doesn't rip off customers

Sushi restaurant
The Yasai, located in San Diego's Convoy District and Little Italy restaurant clusters, offers a unique vegan Japanese dining experience. The restaurant features a variety of plant-based dishes prepared with fresh daily ingredients, such as the Stressed Out roll with forbidden rice and smoked tofu. Chef Junya Watanabe collaborates with chef Hajime Matsuoka to create a menu that includes vegan ramen, sushi rolls, and other Japanese-inspired plant-based dishes.
best vegan Japanese food we’ve ever had by far Love the quaint, comfortable atmosphere Service was really quick and friendly Really appreciated that they had a separate vegan menu Honestly, my wife had an issue ordering because there were so many choices I went with the dream come true platter, and my wife chose the little Italy It was clear that someone put a lot of thought and pride into providing an amazing culinary vegan experience. This team really love what they’re doing in the kitchen. Everything we were served was delicious with an extra bonus of the amazing presentation . food quantity was generous and I felt pricing was reasonable For sure, we’re going to come back We sat inside, which was super comfortable, but I would agree with the earlier review that if you sat outside, you should be aware that the planes are flying overhead … frequently !!

Amazing food with a nice cozy ambience with hanging plants. We went on a busy weekend evening and waited for 20 minutes to get a table. The wait was worth it. We had the nigiri, amakara rolls and tanten ramen. Everything was excellent. I would highly recommend a reservation. I can’t wait to be back to this place on my next visit to San Diego. There was a vegan icecream on the menu, but any other vegan Japanese inspired dessert would be a great addition. I was craving mochi.
Apoorva P — Google review
I wasn’t super impressed with the my curry, and my daughter’s sushi looked better than it tasted. My other two sons order the ramen, and they really enjoyed it. Overall we enjoyed the atmosphere, the planes flying overhead, and the neighborhood.
Sunny S — Google review
The food is really pretty, the sushi was great, the curry was really good, I don’t think I’d order the corn again personally but that’s just me, the server could have paid a little more attention, they were over there watching tables but it took quite a while for them to actually come over and take the order and then we had to motion to them to bring the check. I would probably go back for the sushi alone though.
Daniel D — Google review
Quaint restaurant that interestingly houses both their vegan and omnivore restaurants in the same location/space. When being seated, they will ask what menu you prefer. When selecting the vegan option, they'll asked if we wanted to be seated in the vegan only section or if we were okay with whatever table was available first. My partner really enjoyed his rolls. I thought the Little Italy roll was very different than "sushi" we've had elsewhere. Also enjoyed the roll with the fried tofu. I was appreciative that accommodated my dietary restrictions and were able to make the brussel sprouts without wasabi. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.
Chatterboxlove — Google review
Our experience in this restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I came here with a friend who is vegetarian and wanted to try vegetarian sushi. I made a reservation but honestly, we would have been ok without it because the restaurant wasn't too busy. Parking is a pain because it is all street parking or $20 garage parking. We drove around the area for 10-15 mins but managed to get a street spot. The ambiance of the restaurant is elegant and modern. You'd do well in casual and dressed up attire. The service is ok. They only had one server on when we were here and she seemed a teeny bit overworked. For food, we ordered the vegan bao buns, the prophecy and believer rolls, and the original chicken karaage. The food was excellent! I might become a vegan sushi concert now lol! We were really full from the rolls and the bao buns, so we didn't have the karaage. I ate the karaage next day and it was good. I should have ordered the spicy one because the original karaage was pretty plain and needed some hot sauce. The restaurant can get a little pricey but with the limited vegan options in the sushi world, this is a good spot to consider.

Delicious & unique vegan Japanese! My spouse had the non-veg ramen & loved it. The vegan bao buns were excellent. Delicious and unexpected food-find.
J F — Google review
Exceeded my expectations! They have two menus, one offering vegan options and the other with meat. The triple tomato ramen was spicy, if you can’t handle heat I suggest ordering the classic. The tofu was delicious and the pumpkin was out of this world. Their attention to detail is amazing. The believer sushi roll was a great recommendation by the server. Seems like you can’t go wrong with ordering! Thanks for making our vegan experience wonderful!

Sushi Maru is a new addition to San Diego's thriving Japanese cuisine scene, brought to life by Chef Tsuyoshi Maruyama, also known as Maru. This reservation-only restaurant offers a 20-course omakase experience for $180 per person. Nestled in downtown, the restaurant boasts an elegant ambiance and meticulous attention to detail. The warm hospitality of the chefs adds to the overall experience, making it a standout destination for omakase enthusiasts.
An amazing omakase experience better than most cities I have experienced from NYC to LA to Oahu. Chef Maru, the owner, is incredible, introducing every dish with such detailed explanation and such a passion for providing fish from Japan, Uni from San Diego and produce from local farmers. The staff was incredibly attentive and service was 5 star, Michelin quality. I could not recommend this experience more.

What a gem of a place. Incredible service, elegant (but simple) space, and food that surpassed the vast majority of restaurants I’d been to in Japan. Outstanding. If you’re looking for a special night out in San Diego, Sushi Maru is the spot.
Aaron J — Google review
I haven't had much sushi in San Diego but this has to be one of the best sushi and omakase experiences and meals you will ever eat in SD. Chef Maru is an absolute gem of a human being, chef, and curator of all things sushi and fine dining. Yet he is not cocky, he is not stuck up or snobby, and he is not fake. He is the real deal, genuine, humble, joyful, and amazing chef you should and would expect at any restaurant. And not only is theChef absolutely outstanding, but so are his staff. Each and every person makes this experience so much better and incredible that the meal isn't complete without them. All the sushi was incredible. The fish was so tasty, fresh, unique, and delicious, while the rice was perfect in every piece and with every bite. The side dishes were unique, intriguing, and sometimes even mind blowing. Even the most simplest of dishes like the miso soup was beyond anything I found in California and rivals that of the most unique options in Japan. If you are not one to engage with the chefs and staff, if you are not one to appreciate all that goes into this type of meal, from the selection of ingredients to the combination of flavors and the final execution before it is served in front of you and carried into your mouth - then don't bother dining here or anywhere similar. This meal is not complicated or confusing. It is simply true to who and what Maru is meant to be and what Maru is bringing to the San Diego food scene.
Alex X — Google review
This is a wonderful new “omakase” sushi restaurant that is in Downtown San Diego. The sushi is quite excellent, with an excellent presentation and fantastic tastes that will delight any sushi lover. The staff is friendly, engaging, and professional. They have a very nice selection of wines and sake, enough to please any enthusiast. While the sushi was excellent, I found the portions to be quite small (smaller than I’ve ever been served at a comparable high end sushi restaurant). I felt that this was more of a sushi “flight” sampler, than a proper dinner. Nonetheless, it was nice to come here, and I would recommend the sushi here. Though I would also recommend that you prepare to go somewhere afterwards to fulfill your appetite.
John W — Google review
love this place so much! about $270 per person include tax and tips, very fresh and lots of great attention to food.

We had an amazing omakase dinner here for my husband’s birthday. Chef Maru & Chef Marcus, and the rest of the team were all very thoughtful & attentive to ensure a wonderful dining experience. I immediately recognized Chef Marcus when he came out, after having had him as our chef the previous year at another omakase spot. It was a nice surprise and made our evening extra special! :) We had 20/21 courses (very generous), and we enjoyed the delicious menu. We will definitely come back again in the future!

I like the stateside crazy sushi rolls and this place has a lot of great one to chose from. You order first at the front counter and pay then you grab a seat. I grew up in San Diego going to Sushi Deli and could not wait to take my wife here while we were on vacation. First of all, the value is incredible. The price you pay for the amount and quality of food is amazing. We live in Boise, Idaho where sushi is expensive and still mediocre and Sushi Deli was every bit as good as I remember. I hadn't been here in over 10 years and we will be making it a priority every time we're back in town. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Justin N — Google review
It was a good place with good service. Something happened because the food and the service fell extremely down. It was empty, just a couple of other tables with people and it took more than 30 minutes to get my order. It was a Bomba dynamite that it's not a big nor complicated plate. And it wasn't as good as it was before. The nuggets in the inside probably were unfrozen. I'm not sure but definitely I don't get how it took so much. The place is super dirty and the servers trying to do their job but still a very poor experience. I think this was the last time that I visit this place. I absolutely do not recommend it.

We were craving Japanese food after a day touring the San Diego harbor and Waterfront Park. This was one of the closer restaurants to where we were so we decided to check it out. We ordered the Deluxe Bento and the April Sushi Combo special. The food was all very tasty and the service was good. The only negatives were that the tempura was "chewy" and not crispy and I can see there be long waits to use the restrooms during peak hours. Overall, we enjoyed our meal.

Lionfish is an upscale seafood restaurant in downtown San Diego inside of the Pendry hotel. The staff were very friendly and brought us a few special appetizers to try for our birthday. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect to celebrate any special occasion or a nice date night. We started off with the Mariscos Al Fuego and Wagyu Beef Tataki. The Wagyu melted in our mouths and the garlic ponzu it was served in was great. The Mariscos had shrimp and scallops in a delicious Togarashi Butter. These were two of my favorite dishes and a great way to start the meal. All of the sushi we ordered was AMAZING, the Geisha roll was my personal favorite. All of the mains we had lived up to the hype but the Spaghetti Lobster pasta sauce blew me away. The cognac cream sauce and tender lobster was amazing. I can’t wait to go back, the food and service was amazing!
Carter K — Google review
The Wagyu Beef Tataki, Specialty “King” Salmon Sashimi, Spicy Grilled Octopus were absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend. The flavors were just out of this world and the octopus was cooked to perfection. We also tried all of their sushi rolls: Bezerk and El Maniakz were absolutelu fantastic. Honorable mention to the Surf and Turf roll and Bonecrusha. They were also very good. Bonecrusha is well known and the ingredients are top notch, but I wouldnt say one roll is worth $50. The presentation was pretty cool though. The drinks were also 10/10, although could have benefited from a little less ice. I'd say 80% of the glass was ice. My only annoyance with the atmosphere were a bunch of influencers that were taking pictures the whole time they were there --- using a super bright handheld FLOODLIGHT. This thing was BRIGHT, very similar to a light that you'd use to work on a car or something similar at night. It was literally lighting up half the restaurant repeatedly & the servers were not addressing it. Other than that atmosphere and service was great. Also enjoyed the music they were playing. Would return, but Lionfish please do something if you see people use crazy flashlights/floodlights during dinner!

This is a great find. We had an excellent dinner here with great recommendations and service by our "Server of the Year" Emily. If you like it spicy the "Hot in Jalisco" (a mix between a margarita and a Paloma) is not to be missed. And, the "Golden Hour" if you like passion fruit and your drink a little on the sweet side. Loved the Kanpachi Crudo and Mariscos "Al Fuego" appetizers. We had the whole Branzino for our main and it was delicious. We gave the atmosphere 4-stars only because it was a little loud for our taste, but maybe this is just the front of the house as the bar is posted up front where we dined. Overall a great dining experience and a shout out to GM Gary-Joe and team Lionfish. We'll be back!

Good food - their scallop and octopus dish was really good. We also really liked the drinks - both cocktail and mocktail. Our waitress was really sweet and checked on us when we had issues with excessive salt in one dish. The decor is beautiful and modern but does not give romantic or celebratory. The vibes were confusing as there were large TVs with sports playing on them like you would see in a Sports bar. The restaurant had a corporate vibe to it which threw us off. I would not recommend this restaurant for a celebratory meal or romantic date. You could go here for a happy hour with your co-workers.

Wandered in with a group of 4 on a Thursday early evening with pickleball matches occurring in the street outside. Was able to get a table right away which began our smorgasbord feast of sushi, raw oysters, crispy potatoes, and cheesy asparagus. We tried the special sushi rolls of the day as well as some regular sushi rolls from the main menu. The food was good, service was perfect, and the vibe was low key & chill with the occasional pickleballer running in after a runaway ball HAHA!

All-around excellent restaurant. Hard to believe it’s part of a hotel. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. Staff was friendly and attentive. And the seating was comfortable, completing the trifecta. One last thought: don’t get the churro ice cream sandwich for dessert. The churro is dry and not very tasty. Go with the lemon tart.

The Original Pancake House is a Portland institution for classic American breakfast fare. The menu includes fluffy buttermilk short stacks, Dutch pancakes, and chocolate chip pancakes served with chocolate chips, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. All of the pancakes are excellent and reasonably priced.
This place runs like a well-oiled machine. The beverage staff alone deserves a shoutout—they literally stand at their station scanning the room like hydration ninjas, ready to top off your water or coffee without missing a beat. I was genuinely impressed. I ordered the baked bacon and cheese omelette and upgraded my buttermilk pancakes to blueberry. The omelette was incredible—perfectly cooked, fluffy, and unlike anything I’ve had before. The cheese on top was crusted and crunchy, which added an unexpected but delicious texture. As for the blueberry pancakes: packed with berries both inside and on top. No skimping here. You can tell they care about quality and flavor. I came solo and was seated immediately, but that was definitely a lucky break—it was Saturday at 9:00 a.m., and the place was packed with people waiting both inside and out. Despite the crowd, the staff kept things moving efficiently. My food did take a while to come out, but it’s totally understandable with how busy they were. Special thanks to my waitress—she knew it was my first time and took the time to explain the top menu items to help me decide. Super helpful and friendly. Will absolutely be coming back.

I have always wanted to try this place, and I am glad I did. I ate the 49er flapjacks. They were silky smooth and delicous! I also ordered a side of eggs(not pictured). The entire staff was friendly and attentive. The inside of the restaurant is well lit, clean, and has ample seating. The one critique I would make is that the seats themselves are all metal with no seat cushions. This gets to be uncomfortable to sit in after a few minutes. I saw some older pictures of chairs that did have cushions. I hope this restaurant goes back to that. All in all, great food!!

Servers were friendly, attentive and filled our coffee and water glasses often. All food was served hot and fresh. Omelettes large and fluffy. Soft scrambled eggs were perfectly done. Sausage patties a bit spicy and greasy for my taste. Plain pancakes were just ok. Did not care for the syrup- tasted like sugar free (which can ruin the overall pancake experience). Would like to return and try another pancake option.

Didn't have to wait to long for a table. Kids menu is great Service was kinda slow, had to wait a while to get attention from a server The peach crepe was too much in my opinion, peach inside rolled and peaches on top with the syrup made it too soggy. Original pancakes were great 👍

Go somewhere else. Price is a rip off in comparison to other places. Terrible staff and waiting times on food when it’s not even busy. Terrible servers who clearly would prefer to be anywhere else but there. Tiny tables and the biggest plates so there’s no room to eat. The waffle was SOOO disappointing. The orange juice was considered a LARGE. Just sad presentation and place it used to be much better. Definitely won’t be going back anymore. I had an omelette and my god it was season less lol just terrible across the board.

Shimbashi Izakaya, which translates to "New Bridge," is a modern Japanese restaurant located in Del Mar. The restaurant offers a casual yet elevated experience, reminiscent of the Izakaya-style bars in Tokyo. Guests can enjoy a variety of small plates, sushi, and sashimi paired with an impressive selection of sake. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic date or unwinding with friends.
Shimbashi Izakaya was such a treat! 🍣 Everything was fresh and delicious: 🍣 Assorted nigiri appetizer 🥢 Miso soup 🦞🍣 Lobster salmon roll 🐟 Halibut nigiri 🦀 California roll with real crab The shaded outdoor patio with ocean breeze is perfect, and inside feels like a traditional Japanese spot. Staff were amazing and so kind. Can’t wait to come back!

I came here in August with my friend for a 1:00 PM lunch on a Saturday, first time here. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor patio seating with a nice view. The patio was fairly busy. We were able to get the last table for 2 in the shade. The hostess/server, Kyoko sat us and took our drink order. She was very rushed, but still attentive, maybe understaffed? The poor women was running all over the place. We ordered a couple beers along with Sea Urchin, Yellowtail, Tuna, Salmon, Eel, Masago with Quail Eggs Nigiri, and a Fried Soft Shell Crab appetizer. All the sushi was fresh and presented well. The quality of the fish was very average as compared to other Del Mar competitors, but for the prices which was very reasonable it was good. Take note, my favorite part of the meal was the Soft Shell Crab appetizer...that was fantastic. I could of eaten a whole appetizer myself! I would definitely come back for lunch. Atmosphere: nice, great patio. Service: good. Food: good (I would come for lunch only)

The area is beautiful, the place is nice, our waitress was great and attentive. I felt the prices were quite high given the portion sizes, but we have enjoyed everything we got. I loved the eggplant stir fry and the tempura - the veg selection in the tempura mix was so great! And, I had a veggie roll. One of the best veg rolls I have had in a long time! Loved it!

My favorite spot for authentic Japanese food. Service needs some improvement. Foods are always tasty.

Food is amazing quality. It’s a little pricier but totally worth it. Parking is only validated for an hour. I loved the oyster shots and the rolls with wasabi! If you like wasabi it’s worth it!

A very decent Japanese restaurant. Their food was not only tasty but the garnishing looked great as well. Each dish was very delicate. We ordered several dishes and I liked the beef tongue the most. The service was very nice and the atmosphere was pleasant.

So nice to try this Japanese restaurant out in Del Mar. This place has an amazing ocean view. It is really really popular. I have to say the service is extremely slow, that makes me almost give a 4 star, but I can tell they really need more staffs. The waitress is nice, she really tried hard to make everyone has service. But it is super slow…. We waited over 30 minutes to place our food order. Gladly the foods came to our table not too slow. And all the foods are very delicious. I love their menu, you can get almost anything that you want from a Japanese restaurant, even including sukiyaki hotpot and grilled beef tongue. I was craving for cold soba noodles, and I enjoyed my food. I just hope they can hire more staffs soon.

Restaurant
Wa Dining Okan is a Japanese restaurant located in the Sunrise Town Center, offering traditional homestyle dishes sourced from its own farm. The motto of the restaurant is "welcome home," providing guests with a warm and cozy space decorated with Japanese traditional art and furniture. The menu features simple flavors and seasonal ingredients prepared with kindness. One of the most popular items on the menu is the bento lunch box, particularly known for its delicious salmon sashimi.
We were visiting from out of town and heard about this place and wanted to try it out. The restaurant is quite cozy with only a couple of tables and the bar. There was already a line waiting for the place to open when we arrived around d 4:45pm on a Friday. We were waiting in line for a while but then we saw the note that all in a party must be present to be seated, and we had to give up our place in the queue as we have toddlers napping in the car. We were lucky to still have a table once everyone else in the queue were seated and we woke up the kids. Menu offers a large selection and a lot of things look amazing. We ordered salmon sashimi, scallop skewers, beef tongue skewers, tonkotsu ramen, and kettle rice with sea urchin and salmon roe. Everything was delicious! The sashimi and sea urchin were especially fresh and tasty. Also want to thank the wait staff for being patient with our party with several small kids, appreciate it!

Incredible seafood at Wa Dining Okan! Was not prepared for how delicious everything was. We ordered the chirashi bowl, zeitaku udon, scallop and uni carpaccio, and grilled rice ball broth with eel. The uni was amazing. Great service, food comes out quick. We sat on the dog friendly patio. Highly recommend!
Jeff C — Google review
the food was good and typical japanese cuisine. i wish they put more uni on the creamy udon and the seafood kamameshi had like 2 scallops, 3 shrimps, fish roe and it was like 30$. i feel like you can get a better deal in other japanese restaurants, but that’s just my opinion :)
Abigail T — Google review
The food at Okan is fire. Authentic Japanese style, very tasty, at a reasonable price. The curry udon and grilled onigiri were super good. We will be coming back again!
Landon K — Google review
Super friendly staff and so many options to choose from on the menu including specials. Atmosphere feels homey with authentic dishes. Would recommend trying this place out if you want small Japanese eatery vibes. Octopus fried tentacles were delicious, Kama was good, set meals were also great.
Shawn — Google review
Soo good. The eel is tender and melts in your mouth. The creamy mentai udon is the kind of dish that tastes even better after each bite—it’s absolutely packed with flavor, and the roe is a nice touch of spice and umami. Portions are perfect for sharing with another person!

This is a quaint Japanese restaurant with pretty good food for lunch or a casual dinner. I had the Yakiniku Beef BBQ and my wife ordered the Miso Salmon. Both were good and we would return if in the area, just wouldn't make a special trip to eat here. The service is good, friendly and the wait time is normal to minimal. The atmosphere is a typical one for this type of restaurant and it's conveniently located next door to Nijiya Market. Parking is challenging as this lot is always full and busy.

Wow! Amazing, fresh, and delicious. I took my wife out to dinner here and the food was awesome. I wanted to keep ordering more food but I was completely stuffed. This is authentic Japanese and everything is perfectly prepared. We ordered the udon noodles as it was pretty chilly outside. We also ordered the Hollywood roll and mixed tempura. All was perfect. I highly recommend trying this place if you are at all interested in sushi or authentic Japanese cuisine.

First time customers. Sushi order was wrong (tn roll, missing cucumber and wasabi was very mild), portions very small (wasn’t able to get pics before husband dug in partially). Trying to be empathetic to current economic situation, but after spending over $60 we cannot justify returning.

Love this place! They just started All you can eat and it's good quality. A little slow on getting out the rolls but as long as your not in a hurry. I think they just need to get used to the AYCE crowd. We had a waiter named Jay who was great on service. We had about 8 people with 2 kids and we were rowdy.

Fantastic Protein roll and lemon roll. This has been our goto place for many years. It has had its up and downs through different owners but is currently back on top again. Thanks Izumi.

Great little restaurant for some sushi. The Vegas roll is always delicious here. They used to have a Tofu Soup dish that was so good! They don't sell it anymore unfortunately. However, everything else that I have had on the menu has not disappointed. It is a small space that doesn't seem to get the traffic it deserves but you know it's good when locals come in and know the workers/owners by name.

This is a family favorite. Great food and most of the time great service. Every once in a while they get a new server that struggles, but otherwise we are happy. Not the fanciest sushi place but a consistent staple for us over the years.

Not usually a fan of All You Can Eat anything, (because the quality of the food is usually "just okay" at best). And who wants to eat "just okay" Sushi? This was a big surprise to us, the great quality, wide variety of choices of sushi, and the price. The fantastic food choices of high quality makes this a great value for fresh sushi, sushi rolls, and appetizers. The owners, are the server and the sushi chef, both speak limited English but always provide sincere, genuine caring service. We've been once a week since we found this place 6 weeks ago.

We just enjoyed a lovely dinner outside with friends. We required special accommodation due disabilities and they were very helpful. The brown butter scallops are really good. My wife enjoyed the chicken teriyaki- and everyone else enjoyed their food. The setting outside by the water is perfect. Be sure to get a reservation. Pictured are the brown butter scallops.

I usually don’t write bad reviews but I had really high expectations for this place.. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and wanted something nice. My boyfriend ordered the scallops and those were great! However I ordered the salmon with curry sauce and the portion was so small for the price! I was expecting more sauce if the salmon was gonna be small but it was really lacking. Our server was mid and I felt like the attention to detail wasn’t there. She never came to ask to refill our drinks and left the sauce from the appetizer on the table till we left. I seen more attention to detail from the busser. Personally for the price I feel like it wasn’t worth it! The best part was the view of the fish tank.

Oceana Coastal Kitchen – A Perfect Anniversary Dinner in a Breathtaking Setting For our five-year anniversary, my husband and I dined at Oceana Coastal Kitchen, and it was everything we could have hoped for. The restaurant is nestled inside a gorgeous resort, and although we didn’t stay there, we were able to make a reservation and enjoy the incredible atmosphere. Our server, Adam, truly made the experience unforgettable. When we asked if he could take a picture of us, he didn’t just snap one at the table—he enthusiastically said, “Come on, let’s take a field trip!” and led us to the private beach so we could have the most stunning backdrop. His kindness and energy set the tone for an incredible evening. Beyond his warm hospitality, Adam was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, guiding us through our choices and offering thoughtful suggestions. We started with a half-dozen oysters, and the accompanying sauce was absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the Pad Thai with Adam’s recommendation to add chicken, along with a Mai Tai—he loved both, even declaring the Mai Tai the best drink he had during our entire trip to San Diego! I opted for the tuna steak, and the ravioli it came with was nothing short of stunning. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The setting itself was a dream. The resort’s lobby and lounge area were breathtaking, with cascading waterfalls, koi fish, and lush tropical plants creating a serene escape. As the evening cooled, outdoor heaters provided a cozy warmth, and beautiful lights twinkled around the space, setting an enchanting mood. To top it all off, a live musician played classic tunes, adding the perfect soundtrack to an already magical experience. After our meal, we took a peaceful walk along the private beach, enjoying the beauty of the ocean and reflecting on our wonderful evening. From the exceptional service to the outstanding food and stunning surroundings, our anniversary dinner at Oceana Coastal Kitchen was an experience to remember.

The service is decent, especially with the concierge lady. The food is absolutely diabolical I would prefer to say. Steak is way too salty that enough to burn my taste buds. Bad cooked chips with oily buns dressed with sour cream.
Martinet G — Google review
Such a gorgeous location on the bay! Great low-key live music and delicious food. The Brussels sprouts and flatbread were both fabulous! Service was okay and she was apologetic, but definitely could've been more attentive. Reservations are a good idea during the summer. Self-parking is free with validation. Great atmosphere in the hotel lobby and the gift shop is adorable.

We were wanting to have a special, nice dinner while vacationing at Pacific Beach. This place was a short walk from where we were staying so we decided to give it a try. The setting is stunning! Great view looking out over Mission Bay. The service was good; our server was very friendly but she had a couple other big parties so we did have to wait a few times. It was a bit tough to find something on the menu that sounded tempting. I settled in the Bouillabaisse, but it was kind of disappointing. It wasn't as flavorful as a Chioppino. My daughter ordered the whole snapper expecting to get two filets, but to our surprise it was the whole fish. It was amazing! So tender and moist. My only suggestion would be to provide a side of the glaze they put in the fish to dip the meat further in. All-in-all, it was a very nice dinner, but very pricey as you might expect.

Visited during restaurant week. The skin salmon with spam fried rice was incredible. Service was friendly and food came out promptly. Outdoor seating area is cozy with really nice views. Chocolate pistachio tart was cherry on top. Make sure to validate your parking if you’re not a guest at the hotel.

Roy's restaurant is a high-end chain serving notable chef Roy Yamaguchi's Hawaiian fusion fare in a contemporary setting. The menu blends classic techniques with adventurous Pacific Rim flavors, creating an innovative approach to fine dining. Sunsets over the San Diego Bay and exceptional patio dining make it a popular choice for tourists and locals alike.
10/10 - This Place Knows How to Celebrate! (and Cook!) If I could give Roy's a rating higher than 10/10, I absolutely would! This was our first time dining here, and it also happened to be our anniversary. I'm so glad I noted the special occasion when making the reservation. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm anniversary wishes from the hostess, our server, and even a passing waitress. The service was impeccable – we were treated so well throughout the entire evening. But the real star of the show was the food. It was truly amazing! You can tell the cooks take incredible care with the taste and presentation of each dish. Every single bite was a little piece of heaven. And then there was the anniversary dessert... They called it a lava cake, but I'm pretty sure it was a brownie on crack! Absolutely decadent and delicious. The price point is definitely on the higher side, but honestly, it was worth every single penny. When the bill came, it felt more than reasonable for the experience we had. As we were leaving, a manager came out of the kitchen. While they didn't interact with us extensively, he stopped us to say thank you for coming, welcomed us back, wished us a good evening, and a safe drive home. That was a lovely touch. Our waitress was also incredibly friendly and sweet, making the evening even more special. I cannot recommend Roy's highly enough (I rushed home to share my experience with my adult children. They were mad there were no leftovers.). If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience, especially for a special occasion, look no further! You won't be disappointed.

Went for a business dinner with 9 people. The view of the marina was beautiful, the service was good, but the food was wondering. The best scallops I've had. The appetizers were really good, too. It was a bit loud, even speaking with the people right next to me. Highly recommend.

Roy’s Restaurant is a lavish seafood fine dining place located by the seaside of the Marriott Hotel San Diego. The restaurant has outside and inside seating area. While the dining place outside is colder at night, they have ample fireplace which can be made hotter according to client’s request. The outside dining area is facing the sea, excellent for evening strolling and sunset viewing while enjoying dinner. We had prawn dumpling, crispy octopus and big eye tuna poke for appetisers, and I love the first 2 more than the last one. Then we tried lobster bisque, which I think the highlight of the meal. The bisque is creamy with a hint of spice, topped with crispy croutons and prawns. Next for the main course we ordered roasted macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi (a type of fish). Lobster udon and misoyaki butterfish. The mahi mahi fish is succulent, paired with potatoes and grilled asparagus. Lobster udon combined with capsicum and mushroom tastes great but it tastes a little salty. For dessert we ordered pineapple upside down cake and melting hot chocolate souffle. The melting chocolate was sumptuous, and the warm cake paired nicely with vanilla ice creams. I would highly recommend Roy’s restaurant for fine dining and corporate social gathering.

Scallops were amazing, so were the lobster pot stickers. What a wonderful for a business dinner. Got there early and even though there was a padre game and I don't a trade show at the convention center, we easily got a seat. Highly recommended. +@HealingGround.online

This is one of the most beautiful Roy’s and the food was delicious!!! I’ve been to different locations many times over the years and their Misoyaki Butterfish is just incredible and the coconut shrimp was absolutely delicious too! We had the chow mein too and that was good. Then of course the hot lava chocolate cake with raspberries and vanilla ice cream is delicious!!! Beautiful ambiance, really excellent service, and complimentary valet! Arrive early or stick around for sunset and walk down the wooden boardwalk to the beach it’s beautiful!
