Restaurant
Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is a long-standing chain known for its spicy fried chicken and comforting sides, served in a casual setting. The original location opened in 1953 in Mason, Tennessee, and has since expanded to various locations. The chicken is renowned for its spiciness, crunchiness, and juiciness, served with white bread. Sides include fried pickles, green tomatoes, beans, slaw, and even fried rice.
I ordered a take out but while waiting I could observe how professional the staff were and how fun the atmosphere was. I ordered one piece of breast, one tender and fried tomatoes. We stayed just one block away so everything was still hot when we had it. The breast was ok. The meat was a bit plain but the skin was great! The tomatoes were delicious. The coating smelled a bit weird but overall it’s very good. The one that stole the show was the tender. The coating wasn’t heavy but it’s so crispy and hot (like from the hot pepper, not hot as in temperature). I’m not sure if it was world’s best. But it’s very good.

I visited Gus to try out their sides. I ordered fried okra, Mac n cheese, Cole slaw and fried green tomatoes and a slice of sweet potato pie. Pros: service was great. Staff was friendly and very helpful. I was initially told my order would take 15 minutes but it took less time than that and my food was piping hot when I received it. The pie was my favorite of all the dishes and the ranch dressing they served with the tomatoes and fried okra was excellent. Cons: Macaroni was expensive for the portion size. It was very small. It wasn’t my favorite. Cheesy but a lil too thick for me (my son liked it). The okra and tomatoes were not as enjoyable because they smelled and tasted like chicken or like it could have been cooked in chicken grease. I didn’t really taste the flavor of the tomato or the okra. I tasted mostly grease. Overall, my bill was a bit high for just sides…about 28.00. Overall, I would definitely recommend the pie and maybe even the coleslaw (although I enjoyed it more after adding the ranch dressing).

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. Definitely feel let down by the 6000 overwhelmingly positive reviews here. I get that some places are an institution, and perhaps Gus's used to be amazing. But the experience we had was awful. Service took forever, the food was overpriced and overcooked. And it was a terrible value. For example, a large order of fries was $8.50, and they were straight out of a frozen bag with a tiny bit of seasoning. Literally McDonald's fries are better, so there is no justification for the price. All of the chicken was also over cooked. So if you thought that fried chicken couldn't be dry, think again. At the end of the day, I would strongly not recommend.

We decided to try Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken for dinner, and it definitely lived up to the hype! I ordered the two-piece plate and swapped the baked beans and slaw for fried rice and potato salad — best decision ever. The chicken was crispy on the outside, super moist, and perfectly cooked — juicy with just the right amount of spice. The sides were flavorful and fresh, and the service was quick and friendly. A must-try if you’re visiting Memphis — this place truly earns its “world famous” title! 🍗🔥
Eduardo C — Google review
Service was fantastic (Thanks to Shorty). We thought the chicken was good, baked beans very good. The mac and cheese and coleslaw were decent. The chocolate chess pie was good. The chicken wasn't our favorite, but it was very good and worth eating there for sure. You also get to keep your plastic cup and the iced tea was really good.
Sherri C — Google review
No trip to Memphis is complete without fried chicken from Gus's. The menu is simple, fried chicken, beans and cole slaw. Loved this place! Southern cooking and fabulous fried chicken. Very busy, small inside. The chicken was incredible fall of bone tender and the slaw and beans made the plate just right!!! 100% recommend!
Hagz — Google review
Essentially this joint may have created some of the best fried chicken I have ever had anywhere in the United States, and after lots of recommendations from both locals and travelers, I can safely recommend it to others as well. The fact that they cook their fried chicken in peanut oil and still manage to maintain food taste and quality is quite impressive, especially considering many have not been able to replicate such. To start with, every piece of fried chicken, whether dark meat or white meat, was extremely juicy and flavorful, despite not the biggest in size. They do equip each table with a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce, which I ended up using for my chicken sandwich. Speaking of the chicken sandwich, it was an upgraded version of the Popeye's type for sure, and I am saying that as a Popeye's loyalist. It was impeccable. The fried green tomatoes were also very seasoned and maintained the right amount of crunchiness with the crust. Many of the sides ranging from the mac & cheese to the fried okra to the baked beans have been tasty in the most conventional sense as well, especially the fried okra, which was right on in terms of its crunch to softness ratio. The only relatively okay item was the greens, which was understandable since it's hard to cook greens in mass in a restaurant setting. It was a bit plain which might have been caused by the amount of juice it contained. The catfish sandwich tasted more like an upgraded version of filet-o-fish rather than containing actual catfish. The combination of the sauce and the fish (the way they cooked it along with the crust) was giving McDonald's quite a bit. I can see how it can turn some people off. I wasn't bothered by it, though. Regardless, for anyone visiting Memphis I would strongly recommend this establishment. Even among all the food options around the downtown area, especially barbeque, I stuck to fried chicken twice while in Memphis, which spoke to how good the food here was at Gus's.

The reviews of the food here are pretty accurate! The Fried Chicken is AMAZING! I’ve been on a mission throughout the East Coast and venues like Kiki’s (Columbia, SC ), Fowl Play (Gallatin, TN), Champ’s (Chattanooga, TN) have really stood out among the their peers! Gus’s really stands out too for their spicy fried chicken. I ordered the 3 piece white plate with fried rice and baked beans. The beans were outstanding but the rice was nothing to rave about. I actually made room for dessert and had the coconut pie a la mode and that was definitely a hit! My server was Whitney, and she was incredible! This is definitely a must visit if you’re in Memphis!

Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken is a casual eatery in South Memphis, founded by Lou Martin in 2001. The restaurant offers a variety of Southern dishes, with its specialty being the spicy and mild fried chicken and jumbo burgers. The menu features carefully honed family recipes for fried chicken, wings, and biscuits. Customers can choose between Sweet Spicy Love sauce or Homestyle for their fried chicken, accompanied by a 44oz 'bucket' of Kool-Aid.
We were in Memphis visiting Graceland and wanted to try out Uncle Lou's Fried chicken. The restaurant needs a good cleaning, but if you can overlook this stuff and you want to flavorful chicken, then you should try Uncle Lou's! it was very good, not the best i have had better (Gus) still good. Not a fancy place, but what fried chicken place is? Service was good and friendly. 100% recommend!

Stopped by here based on Guy's visit and review while visiting Memphis. The location is great and nice on the inside. The customer service by the team was also commendable. The food is cooked to order so it's hot. We tried the chicken with the sauce on the side. The chicken was hot and good. I'd prefer a little more batter and egg wash (coming from Louisiana) but their method is fine too. The sauce is definitely unique. A good balance between sweet and heat.

Great experience! Definitely Worth trying out. I'm thinking about driving to Memphis. I want to try the pork chop dipped in the spicy sauce My mother was disappointed she thought the bacon sandwich was lacking Bacon 😔

Damn good chicken (sides and honey butter biscuits too), clean atmosphere, friendly customer service, fast, great enclosed patio with music, dine in, to go, and drive-thru available and convenient. Perfect for families and any local and out of town people. South Beach Wine and Food Festival with Guy Fiery!

TV FEATURED FOR A REASON This chicken—my lord. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich on Texas toast and it was excellent. The breading was just right, crispy but not dry, with perfectly toasted bread. The flavor was out of this world—some of the best I’ve ever had, though it wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be. The honey butter biscuits were also delicious and we only ordered 2 but received 4! A nice surprise. The atmosphere of this place is as it should be: down home, Memphis-style. And the prices are more than reasonable for the quality. You can order from one of two touch screens, but the staff was also very friendly and willing to help out if needed. There’s plenty of seating inside and there’s ketchup and paper towels at every table. They also sell merch and their sauce bottled to go. The flavor was so good, I had to get a sauce for the house! Overall, great food! And despite its TV-fame, it was an authentic, Memphis hot chicken experience.
Zain W — Google review
Service was decent. Everyone seemed pleasant to interact with although it's limited by the fact you have to place your own order on a kiosk. The toppings on the burger seemed fresh, but the meat was obviously a pre shaped pre frozen patty. I wanted to try it because the online photos made it look like a delicious handmade fresh patty. The fries weren't the worst I've had, but could use some TLC The chicken was cooked perfectly and had a great coating and texture. Overall it was decent, but there is a very powerful spice they use for seasoning I don't care for one but. Obviously, that's a personal preference. You may like it. Reminds me of nutmeg or some spice used in some Indian cuisine. Can't quite place it. Anyway, it might be worth a try. I'm not hating it, but not so good that it would make me forgo trying a new place next time.
Wes G — Google review
First time visiting! If you get it fresh it's great. Wings are really, really small. You have to place your order on a kiosk. The biscuits are the star of the show. Customer service wasn't really the best, maybe they are used to everyone knowing about/coming to the location.
Kasheena E — Google review
I ordered 1 four-piece whole wing (hot) with mac & cheese, 1 four-piece (mild) with mac & cheese, and an extra side of okra. The wings had good flavor, but overall, my experience was not impressive. The food came out lukewarm. The mac & cheese was a little smashed into the container like it had been sitting for a while. The flavor leaned sweet—almost like a honey mac & cheese. It wasn’t terrible, just not really my thing. The okra, however, was the biggest letdown. It was unseasoned, not hot, not crispy—more like chewing gum. Definitely disappointing, especially for the price, since the small portion was only about a handful. Another issue: the setup. There’s no register, only two self-kiosks, and for a first-time visitor, that was confusing. No one was around to give extra direction or explain the menu. We ordered inside, and when our food was bagged, no napkins or utensils were included. That was frustrating since we planned to eat downtown while watching the sunset. How was I supposed to enjoy mac & cheese or clean up after without basics like that? On the positive side, the wings themselves had good taste, and the food was affordable overall (though the okra didn’t feel worth the cost). All in all, Uncle Lou’s was just okay. The wings were solid, but the sides, service setup, and attention to details like utensils and napkins need improvement. I left not feeling impressed.

Miss Polly's Soul City Café is a small and unassuming eatery located in the heart of the famous Beale Street Entertainment District. It's renowned for its classic soul food, particularly its signature dish of fried chicken and waffles, which is available all day long. The restaurant offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to start your day with a hearty meal before embarking on tourist activities.
I searched "food near me" and Miss Polly's was near the top of the list. It was also highly rated, which piqued my interest. I walked 5 minutes (or less) from the Peabody Hotel and walked in. I was greeted with a smile from the server and told I can sit wherever. I sat and began looking at the menu. I was interested in chicken and waffles, never had them previously. I ordered "the Willie". Two pieces of chicken, a side, and a waffle. I also ordered a Ghost River Gold from a local brewery. It was good. The food came out and at first I wasn't impressed. The pieces of chicken seemed undersized and the waffle seemed a little crispy. I spread the butter on the waffle and put on the syrup. My first bite of the chicken was very hot! What was I expecting? I started eating the waffle while the chicken cooled and was pleasantly surprised! It had enough integrity to hold the butter and the syrup while providing a tasty crunch and still being chewable. I enjoyed the taste. The primo part of the meal was the fried chicken. It was spectacular! I wish I had ordered the 16 pieces. I would have eaten most of them. The batter around the chicken was crisp and tasty. The meat under the batter was tender and delicious. I think this may have been the best friend chicken I've tasted! Friendly folks, good service, and delicious food all add up to 5 stars for me. Highly recommended!

Didn't expect to look back on my 2019 holiday to Memphis and specifically remember where I had breakfast more than once, but Miss Polly's was that good.
Dave B — Google review
Good Golly Miss Polly I came in thinking a different menu that offered steak and eggs was live. They told I couldn’t have either of my favorite things. I settled on the Meatloaf, Sweet Potatoes, and Turnip Greens for $11. They overkilled it with ketchup but once I undrowned it, the flavor and choice were favorable. I doubled down on another heaping side of sweet potato fries for $3. And they even let me take a coffee to go. All in all, if you know what kind of comfort dive you’re walking into, this is favorable AF.
Dan F — Google review
Tasty! Breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong eating at Miss Polly's. First, this is best fried chicken anywhere. My kids agree. I believe this was the first place they ever had chicken and waffles. Frankly, the chicken here is much better than at Hattie B's. But that's not all! You want a great omelette for breakfast? Try the barbecue omelette. (See pic) I had one 8 or 10 years ago, and had another for breakfast on Sunday; they are still just as great. This trip was adults only, and Miss Polly's has a shorter wait time than several much inferior restaurants on Beale. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. If I were being super-picky, I suppose they could be faster, but really, it's Beale Street. If you're trying to wolf down your food to get to Graceland, you don't have the right attitude for Memphis.
Clinton P — Google review
Omg I can't even begin to tell you how good my veggie plate was! Every bite of the food was Good! The service from our waiter was great! I'm not sure how that corn bread muffin tasted because I didn't eat it (no bread only veggie fast) but it had to be good because my best friend who can throw down in the kitchen tore it up! Omg I can't wait to go back and try some other menu items. This was a GNO event and all of my friends food looked good! Good golly Miss Polly lol
Babe H — Google review
I went for breakfast. It was definitely average...nothing spectacular. I love the fact that the chicken was bone-in in their chicken and waffles menu item. The waffle was not warm and it was a little tough. It's true from other reviewers that it's a small space and if it's at capacity there is no where inside to stand and wait. When it's full the wait for food was ~15-20 minutes. Of note, they only take visa or cash.
Denise R — Google review
The service was great and friendly. The food was bland and not impressive. My waffle was cold, baked beans were microwaved, the slaw wasn't fresh and lacked flavor (paid an additional $3.50 for that; disappointed), and my husband's jalapeno cornbread was dry/hard. For the prices, they should make everything fresh. Also, they only accept cash and Visa cards so I was inconvenienced with a ATM fee to get cash from my MasterCard. I will not return to eat anything on Beale Street.
Renee F — Google review
First visit.. It's nothing fancy but a nice small old local Beale Street place! My main purpose was to try the fried apple pie ala mode! It didn't disappoint, I will be back 😋

Restaurant
The Four Way Soul Food Restaurant is a historic eatery in Memphis, known for its Southern classics such as fried green tomatoes, cornbread, and pies. Located at 998 Mississippi Boulevard, this popular diner not only satisfies hunger with its delicious food but also offers a taste of black history. It played a significant role in the civil rights movement by serving as a meeting place for leaders planning protests and activities in the city.
I don't know how to begin. My family and I needed some good soul food. Greeted by Tj, nice young man, informative and respectful. Food was amazing! We met Mrs Patrice and she educated us on the business. Told us Isaac Hayes ate here. Our first time and I'm bringing my friends back when we do our girls trip. Thank you all!

The folks there were amazing and the food was delicious. I would recommend this place to all those who visit Memphis, Tennessee. We even bought a whole sweet potato pie to take back to Texas. Keep doing an amazing job.
LAKISHA M — Google review
From the moment we walked in to the time we left, **the greeting and table service were a solid 10/10!** This was our first visit, and since we were traveling to Memphis, we had to stop for some true Southern food and hospitality — and The Four Way did not disappoint. I ordered the 2-piece dark fried chicken with turnip greens, yams, and cornbread. My girlfriend ordered the fried green tomatoes, salmon croquettes, cabbage, black-eyed peas, and peach cobbler and we both had the VIP drinks. A must to get! Let’s start with that fried chicken — I took one bite and literally had a tear in my eye. It reminded me of my mother’s fried chicken when I was a little girl. Omg! It was crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The yams were out of this world, and the turnip greens were so flavorful you didn’t even need hot sauce! The salmon croquettes had amazing flavor and breading — just a little on the dry side — but the house-made tartar sauce complemented them perfectly. The cabbage was delectable. She said the fried green tomatoes tasted just like her grandmother’s. The black-eyed peas were full of flavor. The peach cobbler had great flavor, though it was a bit thick and dry — I would have loved a few more peaches. The cornbread was the only real miss for me — a bit dry, thick, and cold. Even with those small notes, everything else — especially the service and the soul in the food — made this a must-visit spot. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Memphis!
Danitrice L — Google review
I'm more honest here than in my ratings so a restaurant can work on some things. Stop using salt and seasoning salt on the same food. And it's a pinch of salt. Yall sending Black folks to the hospital with all that salt, stop that. Wait staff needs to stop being loud and having nonsense conversations. The wait staff was attentive and they cleaned the tables as soon as I finished eating. They asked about water etc. Seems to be the spot that folks in the Community enjoy. They could do better with the menu and getting rid of the options. It's just crowded for no reason.
Raymond S — Google review
My, the folks who have dined in this establishment! What an incredible restaurant! I was too distracted by the delicious food I again forgot to get any photos! The fried catfish was out of this world, and the sweet potato pie was just about the best I've had. We also loved the yams and mac n cheese. The women working were so sweet and friendly. I cannot wait until my next visit!
Jon G — Google review
Great vibes. One of my favorite places to be in Memphis. I take people here all the time to get a taste of Memphis. Love seeing folks not from the south take a sip of the VIP for the first time (as Mr. Jerry calls it liquid crack 😂). Love the hospitality of the Thompson crew, TJ, Jack and others.
Jeff R — Google review
My girlfriend and I visit Memphis often and are always looking for new restaurants/foods to try. The Four Way did not disappoint! The food and customer service were both a 10/10. I ordered the 3 piece wing entree with cabbage and black eyed peas with a Four Way VIP (half tea/half lemonade). So good! My girlfriend basically got the same thing, but with bread pudding as one of her side items. We will definitely be back to try more.
Tiara M — Google review
If you’re in Memphis, Four Way Grill is an absolute must! An employee from the National Civil rights museum recommended this place when we asked about local eateries. The food was outstanding—especially the fried chicken, catfish, fried green tomatoes, and broiled okra, which were seasoned to perfection and full of flavor. The portions were generous and cooked just right. One concern we had was the fried green tomatoes being fried in "fish" oil, especially because I have a severe fish allergy. Luckily my husband took notice of it and they were able to rectify it immediately. On top of the amazing food, the customer service was equally impressive. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in, and their hospitality added so much to the overall experience. The history of this restaurant is also incredible. You can feel the legacy in and on the walls and the pride in every dish served. Dining here is not just about eating, but about experiencing a piece of Memphis history, of "our" history. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for delicious soul food paired with warm, memorable service!

The founder, James Thornton Prince, created the famous hot chicken recipe as an act of revenge after his girlfriend overloaded his fried chicken with spices and peppers. This legendary establishment offers seven levels of heat for their hot chicken, allowing visitors to choose their preferred spice level. The restaurant is known for its great service and fresh, crispy chicken.
I absolutely enjoyed all the food. I ordered the Chicken Tenders with Pimento Mac & Cheese and Greens. I ordered and waited for my dine-in order. It took about 5-8 minutes before the food came out. The food was fresh and filling. The staff were also pretty chill and polite. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone wanting some good chicken. Definitely will be returning soon.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is a pit stop for those who crave spicy fried chicken. My first order of boneless chicken tenders were limp, not crispy and rather tasteless. Not impressive, and would have stopped coming all together. But everyone else’s orders look red hot and crispy. So I knew there must have been an inconsistency. On my second visit, I knew better and ordered what everyone else got. Bingo! It was the best crispy fried chicken in town. I highly recommend the Bone-In Plates menu as they are freshly made to order and come out hot and crispy. You can ask for your order to be done extra crunchy. The mild hot sauce is also pretty tolerable and spices up the chicken with that oomph factor I didn’t know I needed. Hattie B is where it’s at!

I must say…the wings taste like they are from Jackson, Ms. I got the three wings with greens. The green look like home grown greens but taste like canned greens. But the wings…yes. Got three whole wings mild and it was crispy and delicious. Will Be back for the chicken. And I will ask for more pickles. 2 wasn’t enough.

Ordered the mild chicken tenders, fantastic taste and great spice level for someone who’s not able to handle too much. The fries came out hot and tasty as well. Very clean inside and the service was great. It even has a section of outdoor seating and a bean bag toss. I will definitely be visiting again the next time I’m in Memphis, well done Hattie B’s!

First time giving an actual review. Writing this as I eat my vanilla ice cream. Walked in and was greeted by a warm welcoming smile. First time here so I don’t know what to order. I asked for recommendations and I ordered the 3 piece hot chicken combo. I’m not much a spicy food enthusiast so I went with mild but I should’ve given it a spice extra since it would’ve added a bit more kick. Pimento Mac and cheese is really great. Spicy and creamy. Got offered the hot sauce so I gave it a try and had the same spice level as the Mac and cheese so it tasted amazing with the chicken. And washed it all down with an Arnold Palmer. Wish we had one of these in Little Rock. 🙏🙏🙏

I ordered over doordash, and zoo wee mama! They were not kidding around with that spice this time around. I've had the shut the cluck up tenders before but this time around, they were so hot, I had to take a break between tenders to get my bearings straight. Absolute phenomenal. I wish there was a way to ask for it to always be this spicy. 10/10 best hot chicken I've ever had.

Honestly Hattie B's fried chicken is the best fried chicken I have eaten in Memphis by far. I went in early March with a group of friends. When we arrived, Hattie B's was packed inside, so once we ordered, we had to sit in their enclosed outdoor patio. Luckily there was some heating, but not a lot, as it was still chilly out. I ordered the Half Bird Dark Meat with the Pimento Mac and Cheese and a side of fries. This is the order you want to get if you go to Hattie B's. First, let's start with the mac and cheese. At a lot of restaurants, the mac and cheese will either be cooked well but not enough cheese, or it will be cheesy but incredibly dry, or it just won't be seasoned. You won't experience that here at Hattie B's. Their mac and cheese was incredibly cheesy thanks to the pimento cheese, and it was seasoned beautifully with salt and paprika and thankfully, the pasta itself was not dry. Second, the fries. The mac and cheese was well seasoned, but the fries were WELL seasoned. Honestly you don't even need ketchup for these fries. The best is saved for last. The chicken. At most fried chicken places, the biggest concern is grease and dry chicken. Those worries don't exist here. The chicken at Hattie B's is so juicy, I swore it melted in my mouth. I got the medium spice level for the chicken, but that spice still packs a punch, but not so much so you're only tasting spice. No, you still get to taste the flavorful breading and the juiciness of the chicken. I wish I could come back sooner!

The food was amazing and so was the customer service. I was served by Landon and he was a sweetheart and even gave me a recommendation on what to eat. I’ll definitely be coming back!! I love the vibes here along with the food. 🫶🏾

If you're looking for an amazing sandwich you won't find at just any deli this is the place you be! We love this local spot! The schoolroom theme is perfect, the owners personable, and the food is phenomenal (pictured: fries+cheese, ABC123BLT, the graduation burger)

We had the fish tacos and seafood flat bread, both were good. We asked for chipotle sauce and added it to both tacos and flat bread which stepped the tacos up one notch to really good. The place is fun to go to, quirky decor. Service was surprisingly slow at 11:15 am. Maybe kitchen was still ramping up.

Went here June 7th on a business lunch! I got fish tacos! Obviously fish has bones in it but I haven't been to a restaurant that doesn't take them out I almost forgot! The tacos themselves were really good but having to constantly take bones out of my mouth was a hassle so it took away from the taste!

My hubby and I went to this place with some friends 5 yrs ago and I recently went back with my best friend on our girls' trip and the food was consistently amazing. Jack Pirtle's Chicken is a beloved fast-food chain in Memphis, serving up Southern-style fried chicken, chicken wings, and classic fixings since 1957. The restaurant has a rich history, having started as Jack Pirtles featuring Kentucky Fried Chicken and now run by the second generation of the Pirtle family. With its original location still operating in Midtown Memphis and seven other locations across town, it continues to be a local favorite.
Absolutely delicious always hot and fresh ! The biscuits and the fries not dip well into the gravy !

I got overhyped by a worker that this place was awesome. So i decided to go in and buy some chicken. I ordered an 8pc with fries, biscuits & gravy. I also added 3 corn on the cobs. The chicken lacked flavor, and the pieces were kinda small. I put a picture of a leg bext to a nickle. Overall, for $30, I felt I could've done better at KFC or Church's Chicken. Way better flavor and better portions. The only thing i liked about this place was the energy of the employees. They seem like good people, but sadly, the food needs to be better.

Hadn’t ate from here in years. I asked my husband to stop and get a 12 piece liver dinner. It was absolutely horrible. The livers were extremely hard all except maybe 3 pieces. This was not worth the $14. Will not be returning. Couldn’t eat this dinner!!

Staff here is excellent. They are fast, friendly and rarely get anything wrong. The actual set up of the drive thru and parking lot could be improved. They need to address the folks begging for money from the people waiting in the drive thru line before they order. The staff and customers could use some security services.

Central BBQ - Downtown is a popular eatery in Memphis, known for its inventive meat dishes such as BBQ nachos, pork sandwiches, and brisket platters. Located across the road from the National Civil Rights Museum, this location is just one of five across the city. The restaurant opens from 11am-9pm seven days a week and tends to get busy during lunchtime with queues out the door.
(Post from Aug 4th) A quick Google search for “best BBQ near me” led us to Central. Must say that it did not disappoint. Enjoyed delicious bologna and brisket sandwiches for lunch. Ordered slab of ribs for later — which were delicious even at room temp. (Didn’t even warm up in the microwave)
TB T — Google review
Coming from Texas this wasnt bad bbq! The bbq was pretty good, their bbq sauce was awesome- we put that thang on everything. Definitely worth a try. We had the sampler appetizer each as our meal and that was a great choice, had a little bit of everthing and very filling. Really enjoyed the chicken slider and pulled pork nachos. Staff was very kind with that sweet southern charm. Took the food to go so I can’t really say too much about the ambiance but looked really laid back and casual. Cute rustic decor. Parking was easy with the parking lot in the back

First, for reference. I travel for a living and eat wings 3 to 4 times a week alll over America. Wings - TREMENDOUSLY GOOD. Seriously, these are some of the best smoked wings I've ever had. I just got them dry rubbed with Jamaican jerk. Ribs- Excellent, inside was very moist. The outside was a little overdone for my taste though. Brisket - OK.. it lacked the smoke flavor it should have had. Onion rings - They dont make these in house, they were average. Both sauces were very good. When I come back I will probably just get wings...but I may try the pork or chicken.

Very conveniently located adjacent to the Civil Rights Museum. I had high hopes, but unfortunately, the food let me down. I’ve ate 4-5 other barbecue places while in Memphis, and this is by far my least favorite. I only ate half my pork, and that’s usually my favorite part. The service seemed fine. The atmosphere was good. I would not return here
Dixon — Google review
Skip this one. The greens were great & the meat was smoked well. Everything else sucked horribly. Very plain sandwiches. No sauce, no slaw... but asked for slaw, paid for slaw. Flies, gnats, bad service. Was told to stand here, not there, no here, not there, go here, sit there.. and it was hot. They don't believe in AC or pest control. Sauces were boring & no better than mcdonalds. They literally put all the sauce around the outside to make it look like they gave a damn. It was all over the paper they put your food on. Bun was dry. They wanted a tip but never came to see how we were doing, that we got what we paid for, or cqre how bad we were all sweating. The sides SUCKED (aside from greens). Potato salad was very vinegar forward and not good at all.
Jaclyn H — Google review
Coming from a Texan it ain't bad. Portion sizes were large. Meats -Ribs were the best. Normally not a rib guy but credit where it's due. It was good! -Pulled pork was tender and well shredded. Could've used a tad bit more seasoning -Brisket. Mine was dry. Not pleasant. Sides -Mac N cheese was solid. -BBQ Baked Beans were average but good Next time I'd try other meats and stay away from the brisket.

I visited Central BBQ’s Downtown location specifically hoping to try their much-talked-about Banana Pudding. The location itself has a great vibe right in the heart of downtown, casual and welcoming with lots of foot traffic and a steady stream of customers. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived, they were already sold out of the Banana Pudding! Clearly, it’s an incredibly popular item and tends to go fast. The staff was friendly and helpful in letting me know about availability. I’d definitely recommend coming early if you’re specifically looking to try their desserts or signature items. I tried their coconut cake and chocolate cake. My hunt for the Banana Pudding continued at another location, but the Downtown branch itself definitely has a fun atmosphere and is a great option if you’re exploring the area.
Sahaj P — Google review
Central BBQ is a busy, buzzing spot — thanks in part to its prime location near the Civil Rights Museum. Expect a bit of a wait to order in, but honestly, you’ll need that time to scout out a table, grab a drink, and settle in. I went with the starter sampler and wow — this tray was loaded. If I had to rank the hits: 1. Pulled pork sandwich 2. BBQ Nachos 3. Smoked wings 4. Sausage Massive portions across the board, and the sandwich sizes looked just right for most appetites. The venue itself is big — lots of space and seating — and the vibe feels more like a Texas BBQ joint than some of the other Memphis spots I’ve visited, which gives it a broad, approachable feel. Delicious food, unbeatable location, great service, and fair prices. Definitely worth the stop — especially if you’re coming from or heading to the museum next door.

Alcenia's is a beloved soul food spot located on Main Street in Memphis, offering classic breakfasts and Saturday brunches in a vibrant and friendly setting. The colorful decor and eclectic artwork create a funky ambiance, complemented by the jukebox playing Memphis hits. The menu features traditional 'meat and two' dishes like fried chicken and pork chops with sides such as sweet-potato fries and fried green tomatoes.
The service was great and the food was good. The owner came over and greeted us at our table and was very courteous. Our server did a great job and she went out of her way to accommodate us. I had the fried catfish with the macaroni cheese and the yams, and it was good. My coworker had the fried chicken and he said that it was good. All of the entrées are cooked fresh to order. The dining room area is kind of small, but it is a nice intimate environment with nice music. There is plenty of free parking on the street in this area and there’s also a parking lot across from the restaurant.I will be back to support this restaurant.

“I died and went to Heaven!” Exclaimed my son’s dad after 1 bite of the fried chicken at Alcenia’s. That was just the first of many positive comments regarding the food at this place. And that’s without mentioning the most pleasant people serving us including the owner. This is the way dining should happen. Great food, great service, great camaraderie with other patrons. We are passing through from Phoenix to Philadelphia to take my son to college and needed a place to eat. We didn’t think we would eat too much so were going to share but ended up ordering extra food while we were there to take with us on the road! And we had to take a pie too! We each got a kiss on the head and heard her tell others about the recipes in her book. I didn’t even mention the scrumptious peach ice cream we got to sample!! We were so full but the food was SO good it was hard to stop. How they get the chicken so tender and keep the coating so crispy, is beyond imagine, and the flavor was the BEST I have ever had in my 55 years! Then there was the gravy, fritters, yams … I could go on and on!! I will definitely come back to Memphis just to go to Alcenia’s!! It was our pleasure to get the opportunity to eat there and we are blessed to have met her! Thank you TJ!

Our food was good (pork chip, catfish, mac and cheese, green beans, cornbread). The building is very cute with the eclectic seating. The owner is sweet and gave her an infamous hug after ordering. I was worried about parking but they have signs with dedicated parking for their patrons.

I like to support small black owned businesses. I will pull up to a bbq grill on the corner or food truck to support. Yesterday I decided to try Alcenia's. I saw it while working a conference downtown, and when I was looking for fried pork chops to eat, I thought I would try it. I went on the website to check out the menu. WARNING: The prices on the site do not match what you will pay at the restaurant! When I saw fried pork chops, I figured that it came with 2 pork chops, but when I called in my order, I found the dinner came with one. For the price, I would usually get 2 chops at other soul food restaurants, but I guess they charge more since they are downtown. Maybe it should say "pork chop plate" instead of it being plural. So I purchased the pork chop plate with Mac n cheese and yams. I wanted a slice of German chocolate cake, but they didn't have any. So I decided to get something outside my regular and try the bread pudding with the bourbon sauce. When I arrived to pay at the restaurant I wasn't expecting the price hike. I would have gone somewhere else to eat. It said $17.95 for the pork chops on the website, but you see on th receipt it actually says pork chop $19.50. The bread pudding is $5 on the website, but in store, it's $8 plus $0.50 for the bourbon sauce. The container wasn't full for the price. The cashier just said that she doesn't know why they won't update the prices. I did ask about how much an extra pork chop was, and I was told $8.50. Now to the taste. The yams were good. The Mac n cheese lacked cheese, sauce, and flavor and was kind of dry. The flavor of the pork chop is in the batter, but the batter was falling off when I started to eat it. This is a thick pork chop if you like them thick. The chop itself was not seasoned and kind of dry. The bread pudding bread was a little tough at the top but got more moist and soft towards the bottom. Do not eat the bourbon sauce if you are a former alcoholic, can't drink alcohol while on the job, or if you don't want to have a buzz in the middle of the day. This sauce is a straight shot of bourbon. Someone will smell liquor on your breath after eating it. I'm glad I just did a little sip. For the price, it was not worth it to me. I was looking at the pictures of the catfish, and I like the larger fillets, but how much will it cost and what other sides would I try? I'm not sure if I will give them another try. But I just wanted you all to know you need to call and check prices. Do not go by the website. There is plenty of street parking.

I was there with a group of family and friends because two of the family and friends were from Seattle and had not been back in a while. Even though BJ got on me and said it took our friend from Seattle to get me back to Alcenias. BJ just didn't remember me coming wink wink. It was a good day to go. There wasn't a crowd even though we made a reservation just in case. The food was fabulous and one of our guests was a young man who stated he had never had good cooking like this anywhere. His mom gave him the side eye. We had a variety of dishes with 5 guests. There was no complaints. Everything was satisfactory. We loved the upgrades of the decorum. Very nice. Praying for only the best for this place BJ. And I will be back with my hubby so that he can try you guys out as well. Be blessed!

Phở Binh is a beloved Vietnamese eatery located in Midtown, known for its delicious lemongrass tofu and beef dishes, as well as a variety of soups. While it was once famous for its affordable lunch buffet, the restaurant now offers takeout options only. The menu includes their popular dry-fried Lemongrass Tofu, which is generously portioned for multiple meals.
First off, the lemongrass tofu is the finest presentation of this soy-based protein I've ever had. In addition, many great menu options abound, ranging from vermicelli and stir fry to lo mein and spring rolls. Several great soups are in tow as well (hence the name) such as the curry tofu and the hot and sour. Having frequented this place since 2009, I can vouch for the consistency and quality of this family-owned business. One of my favorite restaurants in Memphis.

This was my first time coming here. I ordered inside and took my food home. Ambiance: 5/10…it’s a little dark and dated…it’s not very inviting, I would never want to dine-in here Customer service: 9/10, no complaints, but the wait to place my order was kind of long because the person taking to-go orders, were also running the food out to dine-in customers. I ordered: • Meatloaf…4/10 o No flavor, no seasoning o Good quality beef and large portion • black eyed peas…2/10 o salty, salty, salty o no flavor except salt o Cooked perfectly (not over cooked, not under cooked, just salty) • mac and cheese…7/10 o not much flavor o pasta overcooked o reheats well and is homemade from scratch, not boxed and • Country fried steak…8/10 o Huge chunk of good quality meat, they do not pound the cube steak before cooking it o Needs a little bit more seasoning, but taste good • Candied yams…8/10 o fresh, homemade using real sweet potatoes, not canned yams o perfectly candied o too much nutmeg o needs more butter after they have candied • Mash potatoes and gravy…6/10 o fresh, homemade using real potatoes o salty, salty, salty

The general condition of the restaurant was 6/10. They changed the seating area so that the seating was all against the windows. The middle was cleared as if it was a dance floor. Looks like it was an Applebee's. The restroom was passable it was clean. 6/10. Service was great! 10/10. As soon as I came in I was greeted warmly and friendly. I was the first one in. When I returned from the restroom there were several other patrons. I was bit apprehensive until the food came. Order the three wing dinner. It was fresh and tasty! 10/10. Overall because of the food and service. I would give this place a 7.5/10.

The food was terrible. On top of that I was waiting for hours. The food was room temperature. The plate was flooded out with so much watery gravy that it leaked into the bottom of the bag. I've never seen thick caked together black eyed peas until this plate. I nibbled a small taste of everything it was all disgusting and taste like it was all seasoned with only pepper.

This place is outstanding!! The only reason I gave the food a 4 star is because the meatloaf was too tomato-y and the potatoes were just average. The macaroni is some of the best I've ever had! Ordered a vegetable plate on Monday; It looked like leftover from Sunday. Didn’t accept my order. The guy informed me they had different cooks for that day. He said the regular cooks were out of town and they would be back Tuesday. He did not offer a refund but ask if I could come back the next day for a replacement. I agree because I would order from them twice or couple times out of the month. I came in the next day and no information was left about my reorder. They finally got it corrected after waiting on my lunch break. Mind you, I didn’t eat anything on my lunch the day before. Received my reorder and the fried tomatoes tasted spoiled. I asked for a refund and they gave half of my money back. This is ridiculous. Ask to speak to the person in charge (owner). She refused to speak with me. The lack of responsibility , disrespect and not refunding all my money is enough for me. I will not be patronizing this business anymore.

Chicken wings restaurant
When it comes to hot wings in Memphis, The Wing Guru stands out as a beloved local chain known for its unique flavors and high-quality ingredients. With multiple locations across East Memphis, Bartlett, Collierville, Arlington, and Millington, this establishment has become synonymous with the best wings in town. Many locals consistently mention The Wing Guru when asked about their favorite wing spot. The owner, Billy Richmond Jr.
The fish nuggets were tasty. The team is welcoming. They have a variety of sauces try.

They canceled half of my order with no notification so I didn't have lunch. Very poor service. The order I did receive was so small I thought the box was empty. Do not order the Catfish Nugget Basket or anything else if you actually want to have lunch. Teachers don't do it. Time is limited and this place isn't as good choice.

DO NOT ORDER UBER EATS FROM HERE I got 10 wings without sauce on them. They gave me back a whopping $2 on UberEats. I ordered honey gold not whatever the hell was in this small plastic container NOT ON THE WINGS?!? Wing Guru-Who in the hell would order lean wings with Honey Gold on the side? In Memphis? Like how the does that happen?!? You can contact me to make this right. You cannot put piping hot wings in a sytrofoam box without the box melting. Like I am not eating that melted plastic. If you want to get bent over a barrel after spending $50 take your money to the Fitzgerald: at least there’s a 50:50 shot your bet hits. Do not bet on this location.

I heard their wings taste good. But Probably some might like it. And some would not if you expect to have the wings taste like other franchises. It looks so red and exciting to taste spicy, but it isn't. So much over seasoning, over color, so much of sauces, which doesn't give a proper taste. But they do have many flavors. Can give it a try.

I've heard good things about this place, so I had high expectations for it. This is my first time in the store front. Looking at the menu, it was confusing on how to order. The menu was not user friendly. There is no "combo discount". You pay for the wings which were expensive already, then you pay another $4.35 for a side and drink. I normally check to see if a combo price is higher than buying separate, but I forgot to this time. My 5 full wings were $9.99, then adding the "combo" made my meal $15 plus tax for 5 full wings, seasoned crinkle fries(store bulk bought), and a drink. I've had better at other wing establishments for cheaper. The wings were not crispy. The honey suicide sauce was not spicy nor did I taste the honey. The food was not bad. It just wasn't GREAT. And for the price, I would not go back.
Truc N — Google review
Without making this a long review. The wings were just ok. The sauce was tasty (I think I had zinger). The fried green tomatoes were on their way to being 5star rated but.. alas, there was flour in my tomatoes. All of them. I ended up peeling the batter off and just eating the tomatoes. The menu is photo'd for your price viewing preservation.

I’ve listened to Jason & John on 92.9 ESPN brag about The Wing Guru for over a year claiming it to be the best spot it town. Sorry, but they got it wrong. The wings are good, but not amazing. I tried their ranked sauce but left feeling just average. They do not have a combo meal and for a 5 piece whole wing, fry, and drink it costs 17 dollars. The drink fountain is behind the counter so getting refills can be difficult when they are busy. If your looking for the best spot in town then head over to Bosses on Poplar.

I have heard a lot of positive things about this place and decided to see what the hupla was all about. The restaurant area was inviting if you care to dine in. The music captured my soul and the cleanliness was evident. Try it and give your opinion but I won't return. They didn't get a new loyal customer 😒

Great food and service! Our evening started with the BA nachos, they were just okay, a bit on the bland side but extremely filling. My husband ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich, he said it was good but had a bit too much sauce. Our guest had the fish and the other, the steak. My friend who ordered the steak had to contain himself from ordering another. He said it was spot on perfect. I ordered the burger but I was too full from the nachos to eat it that day however, my side of fries were the best fries I've ever had! They were so fresh, with a hint of natural sweetness, amazing! I'll come again for the fries alone! The next day I had my burger for lunch and it was so delicious! The meat was tender and very well seasoned, yummy! Our server was very polite and attentive. We'll certainly be back again when in the area and highly recommend giving them a try.

We took a trip to Memphis and were looking for true southern food. From the way Google portrayed this place I thought we’d have a winner but were left short. No oysters 😭 My drink was super strong. My shrimp and grits was missing flavor and were extremely salty. Shrimp was good. He ordered the flank steak and was disappointed by the serving size. The redemption was by far the desserts! We ordered both the peanut butter pie and the deep dish sour cream and apple pie. The peanut butter pie was definitely decadent and creamy. Surprisingly it wasn’t too rich, which we appreciated. The Apple pie was definitely the star! The apples were still firm but sliced thinly, the topping was a perfectly sweetened and spiced. Both press were HUGE! If I have one recommendation it is to go for dessert! Staff was super sweet and I hope they can tweak the seasoning and add to the actual food menus. In the end we did not feel that this meal was worth the $100 price tag.

Great food, fantastic drinks, and even better service. Brent, Rachel, Nikki, and Harold are some of the best in the business. Duane and Justin are the best oyster shuckers I've found. Perfect every time, and knowledgeable on the rotating variety of oysters they serve! I'm here several times a week. TUES-FRI $0.50 gulf oysters 4pm-6pm. And they are better than most gulfs I've had elsewhere. Love this place.

This was a perfect spot and we easily found parking on a Wed night. Got general tso cauliflower with coconut rice (vegan) and a salad with salmon. They also have a huge beer selection. Blake who helped us was awesome and so accommodating and friendly :) Thank you Blake!

Two friends (a couple) and I stopped into Sweet Grass for drinks on a whim, while vacationing in Memphis on a short trip. We all said that it was the best bar experience we've ever had. The bartender, a gentleman whose name I didn't get, couldn't have been more knowledgeable, interesting (but cordial), and accommodating. The bar selection is amazing, with some spirits that are VERY hard to find. I give Sweet Grass a full 5 of 5, and I wish I can go back to Memphis soon!

Blues City Cafe is a classic joint on Beale Street that offers a mix of blues music and soul food from the Delta region. Despite opening during the pandemic, it has quickly become a popular spot. The menu features an array of options including Memphis barbecue ribs, tamales, turnip greens, and their famous seafood gumbo loaded fries.
Best ribs we ever had! We ordered the Ribs for 2 with beans, slaw, Texas Toast and fries. The rack was huge... and literally fell off the bone. Great flavor and delicious. Beans were sweet, slaw dressing was light and creamy with vinegar, steak fries, and buttery warm Trxas Toast. We liked the atmosphere and the service was fast and our drinks were continuously refilled. We had our food within about 3 minutes of ordering. We parked in the paid city lot just up the street, was easy and close.

Good food, great service, fun place. We were just around for some light food so we ordered a piece of chicken tender and a side portion of pork BBQ, both of which tasted yum. Portion was perfect for the price. Not too expensive. Just right. Our server Ella was very friendly and chatted with us before we left. Other customers weren’t too loud but maybe because we were there so late, around 11 pm. But even then, the atmosphere was still fun.

Adventures in Memphis... on the world famous Beale street I finally found a catfish that caught me, hook, line and sinker! Our server was so sweet with southern hospitality at 1000! She said they had the best Catfish, ribs and "turn-up" greens... and I ain't never known her to tell a lie! Crispy cornbread laid cried catfish cooked to perfection. Sweet spicy ribs that feel off the bones and had me lickin' my fingertips! Whooooooeeee. Drinks were strong and she went to the basement to get me a cup full of cherries 🍒! Cuz who can drink bourbon without them? And Hush down on the HushPups... I've never been a fan, but the way they tasted, all buttery sweet with just the right crunch! Ummm! Drool! Couldn't stay for dessert or the live band, but that only gives me another reason to come back again!

First time visitor. Atmosphere was amazing. Service was amazing. We ordered ribs, baked beans, chicken tenders, and tamales with a side of chili. Ribs were like any other commercial restaurant. No smoke flavor at all. Kind of disappointed. Baked beans were awesome. My daughter didn’t enjoy the tenders at all. The tamales were good and had flavor. Our waiter was extremely accommodating and patient. Overall experience will be a 5/10.

We had late night eats here when everything else on Beale was closing down last Monday. The service was great, our waitress was friendly, fast, and just the right amount of attentive without being overbearing. I had the pot roast stew which was absolutely fantastic and a side order of catfish which was delicious too. My wife had tamales and chili which she really enjoyed and our friend had shrimp which was a huge portion for the price and tasted amazing. The pecan pie with ice cream to finish was the perfect dessert. Wish we had stayed in Memphis a second night to give more of the menu a taste. Definitely a spot worth hitting if you are in the area.

The Beauty Shop Restaurant in Memphis offers a unique dining experience with its whimsical New American eatery and bar concept, reminiscent of a 50s-style beauty shop. Wow! Brunch did not disappoint! Bacon eggs Benedict and the (lots of letters I don't remember 🙃) BLT with arugula, avocado, fried green tomato - fantastic! Packed half of my sandwich so I could have dessert. The chocolate meringue pie was out of this world with a chocolate base that the rich consistency of fudge. We will definitely be back!!

The decor is quite nice - like a 1960's beauty shop with glass walls between the booths. The menu is unique and intriguing. The portions are small and so I recommend you select an appetizer as well as the entree. They may have a children's menu but we did not need nor ask for one. I would not bring young children here based on the price alone. We had the Peach and Pork, Cucumber salad and dessert. There was a lot of time between ordering and food delivery I suspect because the food required more extensive preparation. We passed the time with the Monkey Bread appetizer for the table. The desserts were good and topped off the meal nicely.

We had a wonderful brunch experience here. The food, atmosphere, and service were absolutely perfect — 100 out of 100. The only downside was that some of the tableware wasn’t very clean, so we had to wipe it down ourselves. The dishes were creative and refreshing, with a great balance of fruits and vegetables that made the meal feel like a new experience. We tried four different dishes and enjoyed them all. This was one of the best brunch experiences we’ve ever had, and we’d love to come back to try more items on the menu.

I usually don’t write reviews but this was probably the best restaurant I’ve visited in Memphis. We went on a Sunday around 1:00 and we sat outside. Having the fans at the table was a big help with the TN heat and our waitress was so helpful and delightful. I wish I could remember her name. I ordered the “it hash to be” with veggies and it was the best and most flavorful meal I’ve had in a while. My friend ordered the steak and eggs and her steak was perfectly cooked and so delicious. We will definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Everything was okay. Ordered our food it took quite awhile to come out. It didn't seem to be busy inside as we were seated outside. Although I could be wrong. This was during Cooper and Young race. Our waitress was cool. I wasn't aware that there was an automatic gratuity charge which I don't like. I usually like to tip in cash. My friends lamb chops were ordered to be medium well, they came out medium rare and so pink inside. We really should've looked at the menu before coming.

Dinner here was a highlight of our Memphis trip! Heard that Priscilla Presley used to get her hair done here & that the restaurant kept some of the original kitsch & charm. Loved the vintage-y vibe! The Cooper Young neighborhood was definitely worth checking out; hip, lively, & safe. You won't be disappointed if you order the monkey bread w/dill butter as an app & sip some great cocktails as you wait for dinner. Our entrees were flavorful & had lovely presentations as well. Would recommend this to anyone visiting Memphis!

I tried the evening's special. Ribeye steak with potatoes.. Seasoned well and cooked perfectly. My only complaint no steak sauce (I'm a condiment person) I have to mention the waitress offered to have the kitchen whip some up but I declined, again, it was seasoned well enough on its own.

Absolutely fire food. Blackened chicken and shrimp pastawas amazing. A mix of rich white sauce and tomatoes and small amounts of onion. The presentation was on point. Portions were perfect. Chicken was extremely soft and well seasoned. I can not get this back home in Quincy Illinois. 5/5 all day. I also had their chicken strips. Crunch was on point. Seasoned. Delicious. My wife had the shrimp and craefish antufee. She loved it. My sister had the poboy shrimp sandwich. She liked it but needed more meat. We also had 3 hurricane drinks. Delicious and made with plenty of booze. Price was fair. Gratuity was included. Staff friendly. Waiter great. Food fast!

I’m really disappointed with my experience at Bayou Memphis. Someone in our party ordered the pasta and it was honestly inedible — the flavor and texture were terrible. When we politely brought it to the manager’s attention, we were told they have a “new policy” and they refused to replace or refund it. For a restaurant that prides itself on Southern hospitality, this was such a letdown. Poor customer service and even worse food — won’t be returning.

Visited this place for lunch during a trip to Memphis. The menu has a variety of Louisiana-inspired fare. I ordered the raw oysters as an appetizer and they tasted fresh and as good as any oysters I have had in the past. I ordered the catfish po boy as my entree. The piece of catfish was huge on the sandwich but unfortunately it had a muddy taste that's often associated with larger cuts of catfish. The other patrons were a little loose and swearing very loudly and I noticed the wait staff seemed frustrated, at least during my visit. Overall it was not horrible but I don't think it would be my first choice when selecting an eatery.

I really wanted to like this place, but our visit was disappointing. That policy makes zero sense for a restaurant that wants repeat customers. Sadly, we won’t be back.

The Little Tea Shop is a charming family-owned restaurant in downtown Memphis, established in 1918. It has an old-fashioned menu and a vintage lunchroom atmosphere that takes you back in time. The place is well-known for its homestyle American comfort food and housemade cornbread. Been living in Georgia for 20 years, and I thought I knew what good southern was. I stand corrected. These folks have done of the best southern fried chicken and black eyes peas I've ever had. Make sure to ask for Bibi to serve your table. She's great. The owner was the most awesome part. She's the cashier, and she knew every one of her customers, and clearly loved by all. Young Avenue Deli, located in Cooper-Young, is a lively spot offering American bar fare and a wide selection of beers. One of their popular sandwiches is the Heat Miser, filled with hot sauce-soaked smoked turkey, jalapenos, peppers, pepper Jack cheese, and hot mustard. The place also offers a variety of fries and an extensive draft beer selection. Additionally, it serves as a live music venue featuring regional bands.
We were very impressed with this sandwich shop. The sandwiches were hot and fresh and delicious. They have an incredible bar and served up great beer on tap. I highly recommend this place. I went to Young Avenue Deli last night for a little solo date night, and it did not disappoint! I had the Italian sub with their homemade fries—both were absolutely delicious. The environment was fun and welcoming, making it a great place to relax and enjoy good food. I’ll definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I went out to Young Avenue Deli with a few of our friends while we visited Memphis. We tried to come to the Deli before a few months back, but the place was so packed that there wasn't anywhere to sit. We were lucky this time though, and this experience enlightened us on why the Deli was so busy in the first place. First of all, the vibe of the Deli was great. There was a stage for live music, pool tables and foosball. The vintage signs and bar really gave it the deli vibe. Our waitress was incredibly laid back, which I appreciated about the bar/deli atmosphere. The food is what really made this trip worth it. The pimento cheese fries were honestly life changing. The thick cheese stayed gooey as we devoured the fries, unlike other cheese fries where the cheese slides off the fries or it's too little of an amount, there was also a perfect balance of cheese and fry in every bite. The sandwiches were also mind blowing. This was probably the best Chicken Philly I have ever had in my life. The chicken was cooked not in thin shavings which makes it easy for it to come out dry, but instead it was cooked in medium bites, which kept the chicken moist. This paired with the melted mozzarella, onions, mushrooms and bell peppers all on toasted bread made it. My boyfriend enjoyed the muffuletta, and so did I, granted it was a close second to my Chicken Philly. The olive spread on the muffuletta was the best thing about the sandwich, in my opinion. It brought a sense of sweetness to the sandwich which I enjoyed. Overall, I can't wait to go to the Deli again!

We definitely made a stop back buy not entirely sober... and they were STILL awesome. PLENTY of room for everything. Plenty. Pool in the back, booths, big bar, high tops and low top tables... like, yeah just go here.

Went on a busy Saturday with perfect patio weather. Food came out relatively quick given how busy it was. I got the Italian sub which looked and tasted more like a pizza flat bread with lettuce, cheese fries on the side with ranch. Star of the lunch was the...... ranch. I'd get the cheese fries again but maybe try a different sub next time.

Slider Inn in Midtown Memphis is a popular hangout spot known for its Maine lobster rolls, housemade lemonade, and cocktails. The rustic establishment offers a deck where patrons can enjoy their food and drinks. One of the must-try items is the Jameson Slushie, a refreshing concoction made with slushed ice, Peychauds bitters, homemade lemonade, and Irish whiskey.
This place has a really nice deck outside. That usually has seating available. I have visited at times when they have trivia going on as well and that was fun. The sliders are unique and really good. They have some vegetarian options for sliders as well. The fries are top-tier. They also have specialty drinks. Don’t sleep on bourbon mayo to dip your fries in.

Been here a few times, sadly the service and food were not up to par. We went on a perfect day to sat outside, worst experience I've had in a long time. They allow smoking, so if you enjoy others puffing with no regards to others, then you may enjoy their patio. Our waitress was not pleasant, even after I spoke first. Ordered the steak and egg sliders, since it was brunch, my sliders had no seasoning, the egg was not cooked evenly, and they were just bland; as least the fries were good. I leave you this review as an opportunity to bring your business back up to the standards it was last year. I'm sorry, I have no plans to return anytime soon.

Ordered take-out... food was going to be ready sooner than I expected. I told the lady on the phone how far away I was, and she offered to hold off on the order for a few mins before sending it back to the kitchen. My food was ready upon arrival & hot, just like I like it, when I got home. Fries don't take long to get cold once the container is opened. Everything was delicious, and would absolutely return!

Food is very good. The Jameson Slushie is tasty. The Memphis, the Hangover, and the chicken slider were highlights.

Worst service in Memphis - and that’s saying something. Food is fine. Owner will respond to give them another shot. This was their other shot. Been coming here for years and it just keeps getting worse. Will be my last time. For some reason I get 3% better service when I come with my boyfriend instead of when I come alone even though I am the one that pays. The mushroom burger used to be good but now they don’t season it at all. Usual order is sampler with falafel, chicken, and burger. This time I was begging for service just to get my order in. Told the server the beef was off and was offered for the chef to make a fresh one. I hope I had a fresh one to start with? I passed. Terrible for a single person Terrible for a single female Terrible for someone that loves food Better places in Memphis who value their customers for sure

We had to fight the flies the whole time we was there. Food was not good and very basic. They seem use premade chicken strips on the chicken sandwiches. This place has fallen very low! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL

Pizza restaurant
Garibaldi's Pizza has been a beloved staple in the Memphis community since 1975, offering an array of mouthwatering Italian dishes that keep locals coming back for more. With three convenient locations, including one near the University of Memphis and another in Germantown, this family-run pizzeria specializes in hand-tossed Neapolitan pizzas alongside delicious pasta and subs. Their menu features fresh salads with house-made dressings, a variety of appetizers, and tempting desserts to satisfy any craving.
Excellent top of the line food, made fresh while you wait but fast. went to the Memphis college location but they were not that busy, plenty of parking. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and my friend had a grilled chicken salad with ranch dressing. Food is always great

May 2025 update: weekday lunch buffet (11-2pm) is back! Variety of pizzas, pastas, salad, and garlic bread. $17 including tax and drink. One of the best bbq pizzas in Memphis. Counter-serve pizza parlor with longtime friendly employees, pinball machines, and jukebox. Other menu highlights include the chicken spinach Alfredo pizza, tortellini Alfredo, toasted ravioli, meatball sub, and versuvian steak sandwich (hamburger sub). Cheap beer and in-house delivery, too.

Food was phenomenal and service was very friendly and fast. The atmosphere of the restaurant reminds of an old school pizzeria and hangout. The facilities are kept very clean and tidy and easily accessible. Most importantly, the food is phenomenal! Its cooked fresh to order and brought straight out of the kitchen to your table. Highly recommended if you like a fun atmosphere and great food!

Was in town and decided to give them a try. Pepperoni pizza was excellent. Their Italian spinach is amazing. I did not review the atmosphere because we had it delivered.

The chicken chef salad was bigger than I expected. I was full half way through. Pizza came out, daughter and I did half meat lovers and other half was buffalo ranch chicken. We got the 14". I was unable to eat any pizza as of now bc I am full. She said she is stuffed, tried and can't talk about food right now. She ate 3 pieces. She also ordered the chocolate cannoli. She said food was 4 stars bc that was 2 sweet. I took a bite and instantly tasted a powdery substance. It looked at the ingredients, it was cinnamon. I didn't take a bog enough bite to really give an option but we've also never had 1 before. It was chocolate, can't go wrong. The gentleman who rung us up is Max, he was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all the crazy questions we threw at him as today was our first visit. Daughter said she definitely wants to come back!

Family oriented setting with a jukebox and arcade games. Variety of food offerings besides pizza. The Italian spinach is good and the garlic bread is great.

Garibaldi's was gracious to host a meeting in their side room but seemed unprepared for the extra orders this would generate from the attendees. Staff were rushing orders and making mistakes. The buffalo chicken wrap was decent but seemed a poor value for the price.

I ordered a BBQ pizza which was delicious and I ordered a cheese pizza and it was not very good at all. Tasted like bad cheese that was out of date or spoiled ? Very disappointed with the cheese quality 🤨☹️😣. As you can clearly see I couldn’t even finish one piece and trashed it. I’m hoping I can get a credit or replacement from the UofM location on Walker?

Southern restaurant (US)
Next Door is a laid-back bar and eatery that offers a mix of craft beer, bourbon, and comfort food with a Southern twist. It's the more casual counterpart to Chef Ryan Trimm's Sweetgrass restaurant. While it's popular during sports seasons, it's not just your typical sports bar; rather, it exudes an upscale yet relaxed vibe. The venue features a long bar and a variety of table options for both small and large groups.
The 5 of us sat near the window and enjoyed the view of Cooper Young, Nick's excellent service and eating fabulous wings until they came out of our ears. And the specially drinks were delicious. They have their own version of mojitos and margaritas.

Although a 3-star review, I'd give this place another chance. The goat cheese crostini was a delicious starter - definitely a 4-star selection. More goat cheese would've brought it together better. The fried egg sandwich was a delicious selection. If you like your yolk runny, the kitchen can provide. However, if I'm going to spend $12 for a sandwich, it better come with the apple wood bacon that's listed on the menu. (Ours did not.) While well-meaning, the waitress just wasn't on her game. She incorrectly told us that Jackalope was a Mississippi brewery - it's out of Nashville. She was also slow to refill our water; and was mostly absent. If I was in Memphis again, I'd keep this place on my list, but I'd hope for a different server.

I came in last night for the lamb tacos, maybe a beer and watch the rockets/celtics game. I came around 9 and maybe the kitchen was closed? I’m really not certain, due to the fact, no person on staff greeted me. They didn’t acknowledge me at all. I came in went around to the south side of the bar to watch the projector, the game was on. There was a sign that said no sitting in this section, please sit on the other side. I turn around and go to the north corner of the bar and I wait for someone to greet me. I see two people behind the bar whom look like bartenders/barkeeps, later another person shows up back there also. But I never could tell cause none of them came to greet me and/or see if I wanted to order anything. After sitting at the bar in a suit for 10mins and not be acknowledged at all by any staff. It’s a clear message I do not belong in there! So thanks sweetgrass/next door, Noted! You used to be a quality establishment for the area with good nachos but you’ve become a very lackadaisical meh of a miss. So 3 persons on staff, 14 customers at the bar, including myself. Guess, I was 1 guest to many. (SMH) I went to Babalu when i left! Service and Tacos were awesome at Babalu!

The menu features delicious BBQ meals, including their famous Greek burger seasoned with secret Greek seasonings.
Can’t beat this spot—quick to call it the best dive bar in Memphis; honestly thinking it might be the best dive bar I’ve ever stepped foot in. Cheap libations and excellent food—topped off by one incredible atmosphere. Cash only!

Great place to hang out. Bar is well stocked. Jukebox is classic. Food is OG with some of the BEST ribs, wings, and burgers in Memphis. Old school and safe. Try it don’t miss it.

If you’ve been to Alex’s, you know the atmosphere is awesome. The food is great but pretty expensive for a dive bar. If you go, get the wings, Greek burger, and gumbo. The service is hit or miss. Last time we went, the bartender was so enamored with talking with two guys at the bar, he seemed to forget he had 7 tables waiting to give him an order lol. He seemed more concerned with chilling with his buds than doing his job. I get it’s endearing sometimes for a dive bar to have cranky, slow servers. But having bad service while the food is overly expensive? Not great. Still love this place though. Great Memphis establishment.

Jack Pirtle's Chicken is a long-standing establishment that has been serving up Southern-style fried chicken, hamburgers, and other fast-food favorites since 1957. With various locations across the city, it has become a local drive-thru favorite in Memphis. The Pirtle family's expertise extends beyond traditional chicken pieces to include legendary fried chicken livers and gizzards dinners. Customers praise the crispy and moist chicken, as well as the friendly service they receive when visiting this Memphis institution.
Food is the best, I always get the 4 tender meal with mashed potatoes and gravy and extra biscuits of course. The Sweet tea is fire too! Jack Pirtles is the best chicken joint in Memphis! They normally have coupons or deals for a 2 piece so there’s something for a little money or buy the meal. Recently price went up, used to be about 4$ cheaper per meal.

I have been going here for years. The last month or so every time I go to the one on Mount Moriah, my food is completely messed up. This time they didn’t even cook my freaking hotdog. Had to show this. Don’t know if it’s new management or what but this is ridiculous. This is a hotdog with chili/cheese/slaw.

Ordered my food through drive through because that’s the only option per the letter on the door thats barely holding up. The lady that took the order on the speaker sounds like she doesn’t want to be at work very aggressive and cut me off each time I tried to order. I get to the window and it was a different lady at the window I could tell because she didn’t even know my order. After she asked me my order I told her and it still was wrong. Your quick to charge me extra for what I order but forgets to put it in my bag! So I go back through to get my order corrected the lady that originally took my order was at the window her attitude was still horrible frowning very aggravated demeanor. I told her my order was wrong she gave me another bag with my food dropped down into the bag did not seal it properly or anything! Here is my opinion, you know you open your restaurant at 10 why not prepare your mind that you may have early customers so that you are in a better mood, why not allow another employee to take orders until you feel better why should customers have to experience attitude when we didn’t do anything wrong? I never understood why people continue to work jobs that they are unhappy at, when there are so many options you could choose from. This was very bad customer service and an example of how I would never wanna be as I get older. If I could give this experience a -0stars I would!

I had 6pc liver dinner. I also brought two large 16oz chicken and rice bowls and large tea. The livers was really thick and no crust. My dinner was okay and hot. The problem was that my two chicken and rice bowls tasted horrible. I have never experienced this before at this Jack Pirtle’s on Mt Moriah. Omg! The rice was over cooked and Thick and the chicken was hard and chewy. It was hard to chew the chicken in gravy. It tasted like it was microwaved too long. The tea tasted good and sweet. I tried calling them and there was no answer. I had to let them know about this. Me and daughter love the rice and gravy bowls with chicken not hard chicken. These bowls are $5. Money wasted. The parking lot was clean too. I will return again. Please do better.

Go at your own risk!!!! This was the worst experience I have ever had. I drove around through the drive thru and placed my order. I gave the man in the drive thru cash for my order. Don’t you know the man told me to pull up because he had to make the order fresh while doing that he put the money in his pocket. Right before my eyes. But I went ahead and pulled up anyway. Y’all I sat and waited on two 12 piece chicken liver dinner for 45 mins. They never brought the food out. I finally got out the car and know on the window because their inside is closed to the public. No one never responded. I finally seen a young lady sitting down in the lobby area taking her break. And yes you better believe I interrupted her break. I told her I had been waiting on food for 45 minutes. She asked me what did I have and I told her. It’s sad she had to stop her break to go and make my food. I don’t even know if she washed her hands. Y'all when I got the food this is what it looked like…. I am pissed and hungry… customer service really suck now days. People wonder why we do not support their businesses… this is why… the service and food was horrible. I understand stand every on needs a job…. But we need to reevaluate the quality of people we are hiring. Back in my restaurant days, I would have never did anyone like this… and let me add when you call the store to complain, no one never answers. Almost forgot, as I am driving off I noticed the man that took my order is sitting down in the shed behind the building looking at his phone and smoking. Y’all can have Jack Pirtles’s on Mount Moriah going foward. 1/27/2024 @ 6:40 pm.

Ordered through the drive thru. Lady at the window taking orders sounded like she didn't want to work. As she was taking my payment I asked about the livers, she closed the window didn't even acknowledge I was saying something. As she opened the window handed me my change and drink, I proceeded to ask her again she closed the window. When she handed me my order she was shaking the bag as if she was hurrying me. I checked my bag everything was there. Get to work my sandwich and fries tasted like they poured an entire box of salt on it. Horrible Horrible Horrible

Collierville Commissary is a beloved BBQ destination in the Germantown and Collierville area, renowned for its mouthwatering smoked chicken wings that are perfect for those with a hearty appetite. Diners rave about the inviting country atmosphere and friendly service, making it an ideal spot to enjoy classic Southern dishes. Many guests have praised their catfish and chopped chicken, while others have discovered delightful surprises like Brunswick stew and banana pudding that stand out on the menu.

After years of dining at Collierville Commissary today was a complete disappointment. We arrived at 1:30 and were seated promptly, but it was downhill from there. I was there to celebrate a friends birthday so I did not complain while there, but I will be calling tomorrow. Our drink order was one coke and one water. The server returned with one coke, one water, and one sweet tea because she could not remember what we ordered. She then left the sweet tea to sit and sweat on our table throughout the meal. My friend ordered the 1/2 slab plate which came out missing the roll, and was accompanied by two tiny cups each holding about two tbsp of beans and slaw. For $30 my expectation was higher than receiving what looked like I was at a fast food place. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was anything but pulled. It was four chunks of meet on a bun that I had to pull apart before eating. About an hour later, after finishing our meals, our server appeared again to ask if everything was alright and if we wanted drink refills. There were only five other occupied tables so they were not busy. Very disappointed and not the birthday lunch I wanted for my friend.

Overall pretty good. Had a pork sandwich, bbq beans, fries, and banana pudding for dessert. Pork started good, finished just a little dry, nothing a little sauce couldn’t fix. Wait staff was timely and nice. Atmosphere in the restaurant was welcoming.

First off, our server was fantastic! My husband's turkey sandwich was great. I got a brisket potato, which is my favorite meal at any BBQ restaurant. It was as though they put scraps in, rather than brisket. So full of fat, very little meat. Incredibly disappointing. I definitely will not be getting brisket again at this location.

This was extremely disappointing. We made a reservation 5 days before going for a team dinner. We even confirmed 60 minutes ahead of time to follow up and provide a heads up and time frame as additional confirmation. We were sat in one room and given one server. He tried so hard and felt awful as he was not given the support to succeed. It took 45 minutes to get out drink order in with an additional 15 minutes for them to get to the table. Thus, 60 minutes just to receive water at the table. The single server was starting to take orders but there was no way he could get them in. I spoke with the manager and instead of supporting his team member & stepping in he was disruptive and went to the kitchen. It took another 15 minutes until the hostess (very kind and doing his best) began helping with order taking. Knowing they had a large group coming in 5 days with the additional 1 hour heads up, they were disorganized which increased ridiculous wait times, service and overall experience.
Gisela R — Google review
Take a picture of your receipt after you add the tip and compare it to your credit card statement. Twice they doubled my $3 tip to $6 for their lunch buffet. The first time I thought it was an error by the person that keyed it in, but when it happened for the second time, I realized that they have a staff member not being honest. Even though the food was good, I am not going back for their dishonesty.

Peggy's Heavenly Home Cooking is a charming spot that offers classic, Southern comfort food just like grandma used to make. Peggy, the owner, infuses her dishes with fresh veggies and protein without compromising on flavor. The cozy atmosphere feels like dining in your grandmother's kitchen, and the meals are cooked by experienced older women. While some find the seasoning a bit heavy on certain dishes, others rave about the perfectly fried pork chops, sweet yams, and melt-in-your-mouth cabbage.

Goodness, the food was soul soothing. I enjoyed my fried pork chop and two sides but added some fried okra for that extra 😋. The tea was perfectly sweetened and service was fast and friendly. Haven't been here in years but I can rectify that easy breezy.

Miss Peggy is so friendly and generous to others. Her food tastes like what my rural Alabama grandmothers cooked which was incredible. I moved back to Memphis two years ago and I was at Peggy’s within a week. So many items are great but the turnip greens, cornbread, fried pork chops, and meatloaf are my top favorites. She has kindly prepared turnip greens and “dressing” for me to serve on holidays.

I purchased smothered pork chops, greens, yams, and cornbread, and two cakes. The small pork chop was tough. The cornbread was burnt up, and the two cakes is box cakes. I used to eat that all the time when Miss Peggy was there, but it has changed since I don’t know what happened to her so I got to find another soul food restaurant

I've visited several time but my most recent visit was worth bragging about and reviewing. I don't know who was in that kitchen but they know what they are doing! Everything on my plate was delicious! I had fried pork chops that were perfectly fried and not dry, yams that were sweet and the perfect texture, and cabbage that melted in my mouth with perfect seasoning. Y'all they are certainly heavenly.

This is the place to go for a nourishing meal in a quiet, unpretentious setting convenient to Elmwood Cemetery. Wally says we should make this a regular lunch place on all future trips to Memphis. I found the seasoning a little heavy on some dishes. Cornbread was really good. Although credit cards are accepted, cash payments may be preferred due to technical difficulties.

Chicken wings restaurant
Crumpy's Hot Wings Downtown, established in 1991, is a popular wing joint with multiple locations across the city. Apart from their delicious wings, they are renowned for their Suicide Wing Challenge held on the first Saturday of each month. The owner is a local business supporter and family man. The restaurant offers incredibly fast service and mouthwatering chicken dishes that leave customers craving for more.
Crumpy's Hot Wings Downtown is a hidden gem that I couldn't resist, even though I'm cheating on my diet. From the moment I stepped in, the aroma of their signature hot wings filled the air, making it impossible to resist temptation. The chicken they serve here brings back memories of the quality I used to enjoy during the late 1990s. For those who experienced that era, you'll understand the nostalgia it invokes with every bite. Now, let's talk about the sides. The fries are seasoned to perfection, with a delicate blend of spices and salts that add an extra layer of flavor. When paired with the fresh celery and carrots on the side, the combination is heavenly, balancing the richness of the wings. Speaking of the wings, the chef's expertise is evident in every batch. As someone who isn't a fan of hard chicken or heavy ranch dressing, I was pleasantly surprised by how perfectly the chef prepared my order. The chicken was tender, juicy, and cooked just right, allowing the sauce to meld seamlessly with the skin. One of the things that stood out to me was the consistency of the sauce. It was never overly drippy, ensuring that each bite was enjoyable without making a mess. Overall, this particular Crumpy's location is K.Le approved. While there might be other Crumpy's establishments that didn't meet my expectations, I can confidently say that this one delivers a fantastic hot wing experience. And fear not, even though I'm not a fan of the other locations, they still offer a decent experience – just not as exceptional as this one. So, if you're craving some lip-smacking hot wings and a delightful blend of flavors, head over to Crumpy's Hot Wings Downtown. Don't forget to mention my recommendation, and ask them to cook the chicken the same way they do for me – you won't be disappointed! PS THIS LOCATION IS SUPER CLEAN AND THEY TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR APPEARANCE of the store AND customer service! FASHO! Seen it first hand. No lies told. 💯!!!!

I ordered 2 10 piece flats to go and the chicken was very black. I tried 1 of the wings and it tasted old and spoiled. I called up there and told the lady over the phone how the quality of the chicken was. I requested a refund, the lady over the phone was very rude and said they couldn’t accommodate a refund. She acted like she didn’t care and the situation wasn’t that serious. If I’m paying over $50 over some wings, I expect good quality. I wouldn’t recommend this place, and I will be disputing this with my bank. 0/10

Went here when in town. Wings were excellent. Maybe not as spicy as my daughter would like but very flavorful. She really enjoyed the taste and said she would go back anytime. I had a terrible time at this location. The girl with the long blond braids was incredibly rude. I asked a simple question, and she immediately responded with an attitude. I’ve worked in the service industry for years and am usually very nice to servers, cashiers, and other staff because I understand how challenging it can be to deal with people, I ordered a four-tender meal and a 10-boneless wing meal. I asked about a drink because last time I ordered the same combo, it came with one. However, she refused to give me one. I was tired of dealing with her attitude, so I just let it go. When I paid for my meal, I was shocked to see that my total was $37, even though the meals were around $12 each online. I tried to contact a manager, but she answered the phone and basically refused to put one on the line. I had no choice but to accept the poor service and leave. This place is a scam with terrible customer service. The girl yelled at me, and the food was terrible. The tenders and boneless wings were chewy and felt like I was eating sauced jerky. And the fries were only a handful.

This little hideaway wing spot continues the legacy of Crumpy's Wings. My first time going, I passed it twice (even though it's sign are quite visible). Service was neutral. But my order was for take out, so I can't say either way. My meal was exactly as I ordered it, piping hot!! Definitely will be returning soon.

This location never disappoints! The wings are always fresh and delicious. And the sauce is just right. I will travel to enjoy the excellent customer service this facility offers. A+ in my book— that's why I keep coming back!

Chicken wings restaurant
Riko's Kickin Chickin is a popular spot in Memphis, known for its out-of-this-world wings and daily lunch specials. The owners, who started with a food truck, have transitioned to takeout and frequently offer flash deals. Their passion for serving fantastic flavors is evident in their offerings. Located between Midtown and the Medical District, Riko's Kickin Chickin is considered one of the best chicken spots in the area.
The first time I went, the staff was nice,I didn't have to wait long for my food I ordered the 10 piece all flat wings with seasoned fries very delicious and full of flavor

My first time. This restaurant was recommended by a regular customer who frequents here. The experience was bad from the time we walked in the restaurant. There was no greeting. No other customers were in the restaurant. The cashier was rude. We felt rushed while trying to review the menu. Didn’t get any answers to the few questions we had just blank stares. We ordered anyway. The “regular customer” suggested that we try the fried broccoli. I didn’t like it. My friend ordered the catfish sandwich combo and I ordered the turkey burger. I’m not sure what type of turkey patty was used; what I do know is that it was terrible! I posted pics of the half that I didn’t bite! Didn’t get pics of the catfish because it was already in the trash! The drive from the restaurant to get home was about 10 mins. The food had already started to smell bad by the time we got home!! Maybe this was an off night 🤷🏽‍♀️

Originally ordered through Uber eats. But due to the chicken being burned I had to email them a photo then I took it back when I got off. ( since the cook was in the background saying he didn’t burn any chicken I had proof). I ordered 7 lemon pepper 7 honey hot. But took it all back had to constantly ask the lady to redo the honey hot even though she kept saying wasn’t anything wrong with the honey hot and she just going to redo the lemon pepper. But I never touched my whole order due to how the lemon pepper wings looked… but at the end overall she corrected the order and I was satisfied! Wings are way bigger and better so I would be back again I just won’t order through online delivery I’ll do in person ordering .

I was at the Thrift store and decided to try Riko’s out and it was the best decision I made all day!!!! The burger and fries I got was sooooo good yall I can’t even put it into words but hopefully the picture speaks for itself.

Just god awful... They had the paper turned around up front so you didn't see the 92 health score, but I still ordered. The people were walking around in the kitchen with no hair nets. But eventually the food was ready. I got about 10-12 fries. The five fries I could eat were cold and tasted like leftovers from yesterday. But these five french fries were the best thing on the plate. The chicken was cold and soggy truly awful. It was not chicken it was like some type of processed meat stuff. I ordered the tenders. The fish was hot but had the fishiest order I ever smelled. It was so bad I had to roll the windows down. When I picked up the fish it was drippin with grease. It had no taste truly bland. But that's where I found the other seven fries they gave me, at the bottom of the puddle of grease under my fish. I could not eat the fish it smelled so bad. I decided to drink my drink. And it was hotter than my fries and chicken. I decided to throw everything in the trash. Health dept needs to lower that 92 score.

I’ve been all over the world and all over the states… and by far. Do they have some of the best chicken. Their wings are LARGE and well sauced. They are really friendly and accepting of all races and cultures. They didn’t treat me any different (very common out here) I’ll definitely continue to come here.

Unfortunately didn’t get my food or my refund. Talking to UberEats was pointless. Because they said since I canceled it on my end even though I was instructed to since they said they couldn’t on their end. I have always ordered this way but today I went they saying it’s for party wings. But I’ve been there like two other times and got whole wings they were also decent size. So now I have no choice but to dispute it with my bank since I paid for food I didn’t get it. Talked to the manager she said they won’t pay her but UberEats saying they will. So unfortunately I left with nothing but disappointment. She said they probably gave me whole wings because they were smaller but nah they looked big to me. She did try to help nothing could be done. Nothing for the inconvenience when it’s they site that was wrong. Update : I have ordered that way a few times recently and never had that problem. You’ll could have canceled but didn’t want that Uber eats rating to change. You NEVER said I wouldn’t get a refund. But I will forever be blessed because I don’t do business that way ! It should say party wings if that’s the case. But however it didn’t. So you’ll stay blessed ! Like who would even cancel a $42 order if they knew for a fact they wasn’t getting a refund or food ..

Ubee's is a casual bar and grill located near the University of Memphis Campus. It has a college crowd vibe with decent prices, making it a popular spot for students. The menu offers burgers, sandwiches, and other eats, all served hot off the grill. Customers recommend trying the Two Timer burger and Tots or the Caesar Salad with chicken, as their chicken tenders are highly praised. The place also offers karaoke nights and is known for its friendly staff.
This has been my spot for years now. Today I went in and ordered the Caesar Salad with chicken. Their chicken tenders are THE BEST in the city! If U try and agree! I’ve also had the BLT via doordash and over the years mostly always the chicken tenders and fries! mention this post so I can maybe get a meal free! Lol JK!

This place definitely has a college crowd vibe and decent prices. Just wanted a simple burger and tots so my friend and I came here to eat. The place wasn't crowded at all. We were the only ones there. Ordered our food and we sat in a booth and waited. We can see our food being prepared and it came out hot off the grill. I got the Two Timer and Tots. No complaints about the food. For a quick bite to eat this is the place to go to.

I called the establishment and told them that I received burnt old food and in return I got a response of “I’m the manager I fixed it myself.” These chilli cheese fries are disgusting and also he told me he warmed the fries up in the microwave. I will never order from here again. Oh and the burger burnt and nasty.
Bianca — Google review
This place is strictly for College students.. The food was horrible. They never change their grease you can see it in the fries... I asked for a particular flavor of wings and the wings came without any flavor as you can see.. We also ordered the fried sneaker. I forgot to take pictures but It was black in color they cooked all of the sneaker out of the dough. The dough was very thin and dark. The presentation was horrible..

Cool spot to chill have a drink and hang out with friends. They even have karaoke. Affordable late night eats, cooked to order, so there may be a bit of a wait. Burgers are similar to Dyer burgers but better. Friendly staff.

I spent 72.00 dollars at this restaurant which I I’ll never do again! Lady at the bar was very rude and also the cook! Waited an extra 40 mins for food , when I arrived they did not have 2 of the items I order. The only person that seemed to care was the general manager L.A , who supposedly refunded the whole order and apologized. Also the picture is supposed to be the Midterm meltdown ( with no dang cheese ) NEVER AGAIN!
Corshalla T — Google review
Unfortunately, Ubees seems to be going down hill really fast. I purchased 2 burgers and 2 orders of "cheese beans" and it cost me $50. The food was ice cold and as I was picking it up at the restaurant I was told to make sure I tip by someone working behind the kitchen. Craziest part of it all was the fact that they now charge $4 to get lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup and mustard on your burger. Take a look at the picture to see the quality of toppings I received.. Ubees used to be the spot for late night food and now its total garbage. You're better off going to Wendy's and getting a 4 for 4.
Andy F — Google review
The food was good, except for the reheated fries, but this place is filthy and the service is terrible. The lady at the counter was on her cell phone when we ordered, and then on her cell phone when she brought us our food. I had to ask for another cup because the one she went to give me was filthy. This place came highly recommended, but we are most likely not going to go back just because of how filthy it was.

Fannie Lou's Gourmet Chicken & Waffles is a cozy and intimate spot with a nice ambiance. The server, Travis, was not only attentive but also the chef who prepared delicious dishes. The Praline Crusted Chicken tenders were succulent and generously portioned, complemented by finger-licking good sauce. The waffle had a delightful crispy exterior and perfectly cooked interior with a magical seasoning in the batter.
The chicken was so juicy with the perfect seasoning. Paired extremely well with the waffles and served with butter and syrup on the side with a pepper and onion garnish. I've lived in memphis 38 years and never had chicken this good.

Scratch made & intimate restaurant. If you’re in a rush it’s in your best interest to order ahead of time. Wings are amazing. Roasted to perfection and well seasoned. I’m no waffle enthusiast but they were good. Now I do consider myself a mac n cheese connoisseur.. honestly their mac didn’t do it for me. While I was waiting for my food there were a dozen people who came in for cheesecake. So if that’s your jam then I would suggest stopping by for a slice.

Nice little place, we chose to sit outside due to the place its self was small and tight. The cashier wasn't as friendly, but sometimes ppl don't mean anything by it it's just their nature. I got the waffle and wings. My son got the party wings and Mac and cheese. The waffle and wings( nice size wings) was superb, although I was kinda of skeptical about onions and peppers topping my waffle. It was more appetizing than I expected. My son got the lemon pepper wings with a side of Mac and cheese.it was pretty good as well, I probably should have gotten my own Mac and cheese but I was still trying to get over the $4.00 price for a can sprite, no refill. For the 3 of us, it was $92.00, I enjoyed the meal overall. The parking is... well, it's Downtown Memphis.

Atmosphere is nice. Very cozy. Very welcoming, almost homey even though it was our first time. There is limited seating however; they have outside seating and it would be an awesome space if warmer. They made the most with the space provided. The menu is concised but with enough variety. The food was great, well seasoned, well proportioned and very filling. Servers were awesome; brought the food, kept checking on us, and even gave us free water. For a dinner of two, you’ll spend $50 for a filling meal with enough for a to-go box. The cheesecake corner is a great end to a meal if you still have space. For $6 a slice, again huge slices, you can really bump up the score to a 9/10 ($20)

Such a cozy, little place, and I do mean little. I've been wanting to stop in and try the place, so we finally got around to it. I had the waffle pizza and was disappointed. First, there was nothing pizza about it. Please change the name to the loaded waffle, that would be more accurate. If it was described as such, I would not have expected the traits of a pizza. The waffle is really soft, so you certainly can't pick it up as one would with a pizza and there was no base sauce just cheese that didn't compliment the sweetness of the waffle, chicken, bbq sauce, and a load of other peppers and such. A waffle on a pizza pan with a bunch of stuff does not constitute a pizza at all. The service was okay, and there was a nice vibe in the place, so we'll likely return to try something else. The wings looked good, so I should have followed my first mind there. My husband had the wrap, which seemed to be dark meat, and he said it wasn't very seasoned either. All in all, it was an experience, so no regrets, and I'd recommend giving them a try. The guy next to us seemed to really enjoy the "pizza".

Our new favorite Memphis spot. The chicken & waffles are easily the best we've had! The service and ambience was A-1. Then we had the cheesecake 😋 if you're on a diet, you need to lower your level of give a damn and enjoy a couple of slices of heaven! We'll definitely be back each Memphis visit. Thank you for your attention to detail with the Cocoa butter lotion in the bathroom, gotta stay moisturized with the good stuff.

Today I discovered Fannie Lou’s and was not disappointed. Travis was our server AND chef and he deserves more than 5 ⭐️!! He was super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and provided the best service I’ve had in a long time! I ordered the Praline Crusted Chicken tenders and not only was the portion generous, chicken succulent & sauce finger-licking good, there is some kinda ✨magic seasoning✨ in the waffle batter—it was delightfully crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. The greens? Legit. A scrumptious combination of heat & sweet with just enough broth to keep them traditional but not soggy or overcooked. Looking forward to more meals here!

Service was solid place is small but has seating outside and some inside. Aymmer will be great here. Wings are big if you get whole wings 0latter with waffle season was great.
