Latin American restaurant
Matt's El Rancho is a family-friendly Tex-Mex restaurant that has been a staple in Austin since 1952. It offers a wide variety of classic Tex-Mex dishes such as enchiladas, burritos, and tacos, all made with fresh, house-made tortillas. The restaurant is known for its legendary Bob Armstrong Dip, which features taco meat covered in queso and topped with sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo.
A very old eating institution in Austin. I used to go to the one in Dallas. This one is always packed but everything they do is great. We had a 40 min wait but it went by fast with drinks. We were seated outside. Nice patio You HAVE to get The Bob. It’s just as yummy here as in Dallas. I didn’t get a picture of The Bob as it was so good we devoured it fast Worth a try and wait for sure.
Cindy M — Google review
I had a relaxing lunch on the patio. Liz C was my server and not only was she super nice, but very knowledgeable about the menu. The small Bob Armstrong was the perfect size for me to enjoy with my chips and salsa. The salsa is on the spicy side if you’re not a fan of heat. The extra cheese and guacamole was also good on my brisket tacos. The sunset margarita was refreshing and not overly sweet. I would recommend this spot for good Tex-Mex while in Austin.
Lesley L — Google review
Came here for a quick lunch after a business meeting. Didn’t expect much from a Tex mex restaurant called Matt’s and I was impressed. Service was friendly and fast. Inside is very cozy and warm. They have patio seating in the back. Chips and salsa hit the spot. Waitress recommended the Asadero tacos and boy am I ever glad I went with it. It was so tender and flavorful that I didn’t add the fixings that came with the food. $20 for two tacos which is pricey but well worth it.

Great time, excellent food, exceptional service from entire staff; from bussing service to waiter - Esmeralda Cruz so personable, knowledgeable about food and drink choices! One of the most personable servers in past 5 years! First time here, definitely NOT the last when good service and atmosphere - accompanied by GREAT food and drink - BRAVO Matt's!!!
Linda B — Google review
This place is a must in Austin! The bob Armstrong dip and really anything on the menu is amazing 🤩 they get you seated quick for the amount of customers that go there. The parking lot is huge, but because so many people go there, it can sometimes be a bit hard to find a spot, but it can be done!
Sophia S — Google review
What an amazing place. Amazing margaritas and amazing Tex Mex rounded off with fast, friendly service. Get a margarita (or two) while waiting for your table. Dip your chips in the B.O.B. Armstrong all while enjoying a great night at an Austin institution.
Mike D — Google review
I dined in Friday evening 10/24 about 730pm the light was very intimidating, but it moved really fast. It seems crazy and chaotic, but it’s worth the weight. We got margaritas from the bar as we waited for our table. We got seated inside in the back. It was very loud so we asked for a table on the patio, which I would recommend we ate right by the pond. The food was delicious. The roasted garlic and jalapeños to die for service was greatthat chips and salsa. Amazing if you like spice every time I go to Austin, I will try to make this place. It was delicious.
Darilyn C — Google review
We saw the long line and decide to check it out. It was good but I move had better but it’s good. Lots of people only complaint is if you have a full size car or truck good luck with parking lol

Mexican restaurant
Restaurant
Habanero Cafe is a family-owned Mexican restaurant in Austin that has been serving authentic and delicious food for over 20 years. The menu offers a variety of options, including all-day breakfast and popular lunch specials. The cafe is known for its friendly service and generous portions, such as the large red plastic cups of horchata. The tacos are described as price-friendly, cheesy, and just greasy enough to satisfy post-rager cravings.
INCREDIBLE!! We are visiting from the east coast and needed somewhere to stop before we leave, I came across this place just looking for food on Google and saw all the other great reviews and figured we should stop here. Thank goodness we did!! It was packed with locals and working men, and we knew that was a good sign. We were seated within 10 minutes, drinks and chips with the best tasting spicy salsa I’ve had our whole trip, and the food came out in less than 10-15mins. Everything was DELICIOUS!!! We recommended it to our friends that live here, and WILL be back on our next visit. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Popular traditional Mexican cafe. Was here for lunch and it's busy. The salsa for the chips is very spicy. The dishes are delicious and portion is generous.

Best authentic Mexican food we’ve tried in Austin so far since moving here three months ago. I’m so happy we ran into this place on a Friday because their chicken mole Friday special was THE BEST THING EVER. Most tender chicken thigh you’ll ever have. Their chips and salsa dip was also amazing along with the staff’s hospitality. VISIT NOW!
Angelika R — Google review
The service was amazing, under a 10 minute wait even though it was very busy and we were expecting a 20+ min wait. Staff is very kind and quick. Food was so delicious 😋 we got the migas plate and the chori-migas plate. We tried both the corn and flour tortillas and they were all right. Looking at all the other dishes in the restaurant made me want to order everything. Atmosphere has low volume music due to the restaurant bustle which is good, its a cozy atmosphere. I'd be a regular if I lived closer.
Andrea B — Google review
Was craving a Mexican breakfast at a local family-feel spot and Habanero did not disappoint. This is the Mexican lunch spot where I will take people from out of town from now on. Best part is that they use fries for their potatoes - even in their tacos!
Breanne B — Google review
Great experience, the food was delicious, we went with a larger group and it was a little tight on space but everyone raved about the food. We were so excited to eat the food I forgot to take pictures, I only got a picture of the chips and salsa.
Chellea007 — Google review
From the bars on the windows to the 26 year old building, this spot is everything ‘old Austin…’ it’s a small joint that stays busy, so you might have to wait, but it’s worth it. Classic Tex-Mex plates that taste great, they even changed the channel on the tv for me (big soccer fan).. Awesome service as well. We definitely plan to come back and try lunch/dinner. Great place!
Jeremiah D — Google review
We've been coming here for years now and love everything about Habanero's. I can't vouch for everything on the menu, but that's because I always order the machacado breakfast plate. The salsa is made in house and zesty without burning your tongue. Even the coffee is delicious. But what makes Habanero's so special is the staff there. It feels like home and we always leave satisfied and happy!

Tex-Mex restaurant
Güero's Taco Bar is a popular spot located in a historic building with a patio, offering an extensive menu, including hand-shaken margaritas and a salsa bar. The restaurant serves authentic Mexican dishes with a Tex-Mex twist, such as enchiladas with various fillings and sauces. Visitors can enjoy the Oak Garden outside, featuring live music and a full bar on select days.
This place is an Austin institution, and it deserves its fame. Six of us descended on Guero’s about 5:00 on a Wednesday, and while it was busy, we were able to be seated immediately. Our excellent server took and delivered our drink orders, which came just enough later that we were ready to order. We munched on the complimentary chips and salsa until our food arrived. And the food was outstanding! We had everything from brisket enchiladas with mole to beef tacos queso to tamales to open face enchiladas with green sauce and more. Every single one of us loved every bite! The atmosphere is fun and lively, with lots of tables of happy diners all around. Whether you live in Austin or are just visiting, this is a great place to have your taste of the city!

First time here and they didn’t disappoint! We tried the breakfast tacos to go and its was delicious! We will definitely dine the next time then we visit SoCo. I would definitely recommend this amazing historic restaurant! *They serve breakfast tacos all day so that’s a huge plus! 🌮 *Nice patio area *Great location and parking area

The trio of salsas they brought out were all very good as well. They had a good selection of beer and their margaritas were fantastic. We also had a large group and they accommodated us very well. Service was great and our meals made it out very quickly. I got the ground beef enchiladas Santa Fe style and I loved them.
Denis D — Google review
I came here for lunch with my best friend and I was not disappointed! The servers are friendly and welcoming. The chips are SO good and the salsas are even better! They have some of the best enchiladas I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to come back and try the rest of their menu!
Kamila V — Google review
Güero’s Taco Bar has been open since 1986, and you definitely get that vibe when you walk inside. They have eclectic decorations, old photos, newspaper clippings, exposed brick wall with chipped paint, and worn wooden floors. It’s a popular spot in South Congress; there was a waitlist on Saturday around 3 pm, but tables turned fast and we got seated pretty quickly. We started with the queso flameado, melted jack cheese served with warm tortillas. We were surprised to see a deep bowl of cheese arrive at the table; they certainly did not skimp on the portions. It’s probably meant to be shared by more than 2 people. We also shared the pastor taco plate. It came with two marinated pork tacos, topped with chopped onions, cilantro and pineapple, and served with sides of rice and beans. We enjoyed the tacos, but were so full we had to take the rice and beans (and some of the cheese) home. Service was a little slow, especially towards the end when we were waiting for the check. Overall, the food was good, and there’s a fun and casual atmosphere.
Mariana G — Google review
Great live music outside on the weekend! Didn't have food or service. Just enjoyed the ambiance, fans, and misters over a couple of drinks while listening to the great Blues music.
Marc K — Google review
Good spot for some good Tex-Mex. It was pretty busy Sunday at lunch hour but there wasn’t a wait. They have an unlimited salsa/green sauce/pico bar that you can use for the chips they provide- the salsa was my favorite. I ordered the gringo omelette which was quite good- the potatoes were my favorite part and nothing disappointed. Would recommend stopping by.
Billy T — Google review
I got the tacos al pastor (just 2, no sides) and was delish. There is a free salsa bar so I got more of the red sauce and pickled jalapeños. There is a escabeche is just shredded white onions, which I found bland. But the tacos were well seasoned and with the complimentary chips it was enough food. I ‘m trying to cut carbs. It came with a small side salad/raw veggies to go on the tacos.

Tex-Mex restaurant
Restaurant
Chuy's is a popular Tex-Mex chain originating from Austin, known for its 'big as yo' face' burritos and other Tex-Mex dishes. The highlight of Chuy's is their famous queso, which is served for free during happy hour in the back of a Cadillac trunk. Additionally, they offer a 'nacho car' with fresh salsas, creamy queso, and warm chips to enjoy with margaritas and beer.
Chuy’s is AMAZING. We were frantically searching for a last minute option after our first choice restaurant was full at 6 on a Saturday night, and not only did Chuy’s seat us quickly, they also managed to get all nine of us close together by seating us at adjacent tables! The food and service is impeccable. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and taco salad, and let me just say, if you’re looking for a healthy, filling, and yet incredibly delicious meal, this is for you. The excellent creamy jalapeño sauce on top really brought it together. Love Chuy’s. Could not recommend more!
Anna N — Google review
Food was good but they got our order wrong (ordered a steak burrito, billed for a steak burrito, received a chicken burrito) and service was slow. At this point we were so hungry we ate what they brought. Waitress was great. No mojito mix, long wait for a table even though we had reservations. Green sauce is the best part.
Kris C — Google review
Fun & casual atmosphere. Good food, large portions (I couldn’t finish my meal), & colorful surroundings. It can feel a little cozy when there are a lot of people there. Staff was nice & attentive. You can’t go wrong with margaritas, right?
Ken B — Google review
This was my first time to eat at a Chuy's. I've heard a lot about them. I live in Abilene, Tx and we are getting one. Turns out this is their FIRST location. The place has tons of character. It was a super busy Saturday night during football season. We rode our motorcycles to the place which was nuts at 9PM!!! The steak and green chili burrito was the BEST burrito I have ever had in my life. The flavor was amazing. Our waitress was excellent and visited a little with us. All four of us had fantastic meals and totally worth the 30 minute wait. You will not regret a meal at Chuy's!!!
Chris C — Google review
Chuy’s – Tex-Mex That Hits All the Right Notes Tex-Mex done right! From the moment I took a sip of my large margarita, I knew I was in for a treat. The flavors took me straight back to my childhood—comforting, bold, and just the right kind of nostalgic. I had the King’s Memorial Combo, and it was incredible in both taste and value. Chuy’s nails it with great food, fun vibes, and spot-on pricing. Highly recommend if you’re craving classic Tex-Mex with flavor that delivers.
Stephen B — Google review
Seattle tourist here! Went with a local because it’s a good spot to get your generic Tex Mex fix while in Austin but not much else. The Margarita with a Tajin rim was amazing. The Queso Compuesto dip was pretty addicting. I dont know why I got the taquitos but they were forgettable (I didn’t even take a pic). The server was lovely and helpful with their house sauces recommendation. I just wanted a hot sauce but they don’t have that
Rassamy ( — Google review
This is an amazing place. It's the original Chuy's location that has been there since 1982! There's a bunch of different dining rooms plus outdoor tables and a bar area. The staff are great and very friendly and helpful. Prices are not unreasonable and the food is very good. All in all it was a very good experience for my first time eating tex/mex food.
Jack M — Google review
I went here with my family a few months ago when we were in town for a wedding and it was delicious!!! Our waiter was very polite and generous. He gave outstanding service. The food was so delicious with a combination of Texan and Mexican food. I will definitely come again!

Mexican restaurant
Polvos is a vibrant and lively eatery located in South Austin, offering a Tex-Mex dining experience with a salsa bar and refreshing pitchers of margaritas. The restaurant is always bustling with locals enjoying an array of authentic Mexican dishes, from ceviche de pescado to steak polvos. With additional locations in downtown and Barton Creek, Polvos boasts an extensive menu featuring the best Mexican seafood and excellent rellenos.
Polvos was the first Mexican restaurant I visited as soon as I arrived into Austin. The restaurant itself gives off great Mexican vibes and plays some really great tunes along with it. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The food tasted very authentic. The drinks were tasty!

GREAT food!! A staff member of a local hotel recommended this location, and it did not disappoint. I had the Trash Can Plate, and it was so good!!

Honestly, It deserves 0 stars. Maybe it’s because i’ve actually had better food before but this place is ridiculous. Please don’t waste your money. $3.50 for salsa…… really. 18$ for a small quesadilla huh this looks great but the taste was bland, it was all drowned by these ridiculous toppings and had no flavor. I love onions, but these ones were terrible. I need another meal after this one. I don’t think i’ll ever financially recover from this 80$ bill with two entrees and two alcoholic beverages. Ridiculous. Please please please go somewhere else and don’t make the same mistake i did. I’ve had far better tasting tacos and quesadillas elsewhere. I’m furious to say the least.

The Migas and the Chilaquiles were mouthwateringly delicious as were ALLLL OF the sauces! <3<3<3 XD

I will never come back to this place. They charge you a service fee $3.70 if paying with a credit card so you better have cash. It was hot inside no ac, they don’t bring you hot sauce you have to get it yourself . They charge a gratuity for 3 adults and 3 kids $24.64 and charge just 3 enchiladas for $23.97 with no rice or beans. Our sever was David. The worst dinner ever
Rayden 0 — Google review
Don't let the card tables and plastic chairs fool you. This place is always packed because the food is always great. I do think the place is overpriced. You can get food that is just as tasty ar a couple other places in Austin for less. I hope it's pricier because they pay their waiters more? But that's the only theory I have.
Barbados P — Google review
I’ve lived in Austin for 35 years. I was born in Mexico. I’ve traveled all over Mexico. I know Tex-Mex well. I hadn’t been back to Polvos for over a decade. I guess because I live a little bit out of town and don’t venture to South Austin as much. My wife and I and a friend went last night and had a lovely time. The service could not have been any better. The food was very good. I had a chile relleno with beef pastor. I normally only eat them filled with cheese, but the way they recommended this and it was excellent. My wife burrito was very good. No, this is not a Michelin star restaurant. It is not on this weeks’ ist of the hottest trendiest restaurants that will be forgotten next week.Thank God. It makes me sad that such a wonderful place that is an excellent representation of the old Austin would take grief from silly reviewers.

Delicious and innovative flavors, fun atmosphere, and great service! My friends and I found this place for dinner while visiting Austin. We lucked out last minute because a reservation canceled, so we got seating on the rooftop - that was a fun experience. We ordered the queso blanco y rojo (great!), the ceviche (great!), the ahi tuna ceviche tostada (I was so happy with this - lots of flavor!!), the sweet potato relleno (yum!), and the enchiladas (great!). We really enjoyed this meal - I love flavor combos, and they delivered! The ambiance inside and out is fun. I highly recommend, and I’ll be back for the sho tuna ceviche tostadas!!!

We go here every year for my Wife's birthday and we love it. Great food and drinks. The quesos are amazing, the margs and cocktails are great too. El Alma is a great blend of high quality Mexican food and drinks with an accessible atmosphere for even the most casual of diners.

Recommend… they have a great happy hour! The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the table my party was sat at was dirty when we were seated and it wasn’t busy at all so it was just a little gross but after it was cleaned off the rest of the experience was great!

Amazing food and experience! We had zero wait at lunchtime on a Saturday. I got the shrimp enchiladas with the tomato chipotle sauce and they were amazing. Their chips are also some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience. Fun atmosphere. Friendly and efficient service. And the menu was outstanding! We started out with guac and queso which were both great. For tacos I ordered the al pastor and chicken tinga and they were delicious. And I can’t forget the cocktails— my favorite was the como la flor!

El Alma absolutely delivered! My wife and I stopped in after a long day on the road—not super hungry, but wanted something light. We ordered the ceviche clásico and it was incredible. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. The margaritas were top notch—easily some of the best we’ve had in Austin. We sat upstairs and, yeah, it was a little warm, but the view and the vibe totally made up for it. Great atmosphere, great service, and an overall fantastic experience. Can’t wait to come back when we’re hungrier!

Great Mexican food, drinks, and ambiance. A little pricey for what you get, but the experience makes it worthwhile. A beautiful winding rock stairwell takes you up to their rooftop deck where you can watch the birds, listen to the Cicadas, and enjoy the Austin weather near the river, while sipping on a Clásica Margarita or a delicious frozen Mangorita with a Chile rim (I had both, just to be safe). Food and service get docked one star because there was silver skin on the steak, which shouldn't happen at this price, and our appetizer (Ahi Tostadas, which were great), didn't come out until the rest of the food had arrived. Otherwise, it was yummy and the staff were very friendly. We'd definitely go back!

Amaya's Taco Village is a popular Tex-Mex spot in Austin, known for its delicious tacos, fajitas, and classic platters. Despite the limited taco selection, the restaurant draws in crowds with its well-executed classics and warm hospitality. Established in 1976, this spacious venue offers a large dining room and bar seating.
Amaya’s Taco Village is a solid spot for a laid-back Tex-Mex breakfast at a good price. The patio is super cute on a nice day, and it’s kinda fun to just sit there and stare at the I-35 flyovers. Definitely a local favorite—lots of regulars, and it gets pretty busy, especially on Sunday mornings. The free chips are nothing fancy (straight-up supermarket quality), but hey, they’re free, so no complaints. Service is good, but my food took about 30 minutes to come out. Seasoning is on the lighter side, but the portions are generous. The menudo is loaded with meat and tastes a lot like Joe’s Bakery and Coffee Shop’s. The migas plate was way bigger than I expected—so much scrambled migas egg for $7.65! The flavor is pretty mild, but the huevo ranchero sauce on top is nice and fresh. I ended up using the salsa from the tortillas to give it more of a kick, and that worked great. And holy moly they gave me 4 tortillas. Also, shoutout to the breakfast potatoes—crispy and super tasty. I could only finish half my plate. I left very full and satisfied.

The ribs (costillas) plate reming me of my Abuela's homemade Dinoribs, they are perfectly seasoned with only salt & pepper, super tender and juicy.

Had dinner at Amaya's restaurant and was seated very quickly. My hostess was very professional, knowledgeable and with the menu and greeted me with a smile. The atmosphere was very family-oriented and there were quite a few families visiting that evening at the restaurant. The atmosphere was electric and there were lots of laughing and families engaging. Even though I dined alone I had a great time. The place that I order will very reasonable, parking was easy and plentiful and there is handicap accessibility available. Thank you Amaya Mexican restaurant staff, you're doing a great job. Keep up the good work! I will be sure and tell all my friends where to get some great authentic Mexican food and mango margaritas. ❤️

The food was so good! Just like the South location’s experience including our fabulous server, Claudia. Bean & cheese nachos, beef enchiladas, and cheese enchiladas were served hot from the kitchen and the portions were generous so we had plenty bring home. My only suggestion, not really a complaint, we were sat about 2 feet from a large party while many other tables were empty. Would have liked to be one or two tables over since it appeared all sections were still “open.” Already planning to come back Friday for margaritas!!
Marci D — Google review
Wow, I can’t believe I haven’t tried this place sooner! The chalupas were overpriced (almost $15 for two with no sides) but they were worth it to me. I heard the breakfast was also good so I came back the next day and had breakfast. I’d say the breakfast was better and the best part was they actually got everything right how we ordered it. I’ll definitely be returning.

Brunch restaurant
VIVO is a lively spot known for its vast patio, wide variety of tequilas and margaritas, and inventive Tex-Mex cuisine. The restaurant offers 'modern Tex-Mex' fare with a great happy hour from 4-6 pm on weekdays. Guests can customize their margaritas with unique flavor mix-ins like hibiscus, blood orange, or prickly pear. The menu includes vegetarian options and loaded appetizers, making it a solid choice for anyone.
Great food and drinks for incredible value. Like, I hope I don't give it away but their prices are significantly lower than other comparable restaurants. And for amazing quality and quantity. So good and such a deal. Hurry and go before they figure it out!

Great service and great atmosphere! The food was interesting, tried the shrimp salad and puffy tacos. The tacos were pretty greasy, but the fajita beef was tasty. The shrimp taco was OK, shrimp tasted a little off. The limeade was tasty if you like the pucker factor. Will try some other foods to get a more robust experience. Waiter Jory was awesome!

Really great Tex-Mex! The puffy tacos are one of their unique offerings! The patio is wonderful on a cool night, but might be a little toasty on a summer night. Chips and salsa are top notch!

Food was fine, I thought mine was ok, alot more then i expected on mine but nothing special but rest in our party liked it, service was also nothing special, what upset me but I didn't complain was yes we may have had 6 people on our table but 2 were 2 years old and a 6 years old who we did not order anything for, nor did they eat there, I mean my 6 yrs old ate a few chips (no salsa) and drank water but when the bill came I was still charged an automatic gratuity, not a big deal I was planning on tipping my usual 30% i do at other places but because of that reason I just left it at what I was automatically charged. Really not a big deal because me myself really didn't care much for the service or the food so I wouldn't be attending in the future anyway.

Hand down the BEST salsa and TexMex I have ever had in my life. After moving away from Austin a few years ago, I still come back just to get VIVO salsa by the quarter. Do yourself a favor and eat here. You will thank me.

Pretty impressed with this place. Only draw back is it is pretty dark atmosphere inside. The waiter (Oscar) was super helpful and attentive. The chips and salsa are on point. The cocktails ( we had more than pictured 😏) were tasty. My fajita tacos were delicious and my wife loved her street tacos. This is a hidden gem that should be visited if you are in the area.

Vivo is one of my favorite hidden gems! I say hidden because it’s not in plain view from the highway. However if you know you know!! All the people here are amazing. I go fairly often and have not met a bad server yet! So friendly and helpful! I love their tortilla soup and puffy tacos! We come here for happy hour, work lunches, random lunches, it is definitely a busy place during lunch but well worth it.

Update 1.7.24. Food was still delicious, but took over an hour to get served to us. The waitress didn’t update us on why the food prep was taking so long and when I asked she said that there was a printer problem with the kitchen. Seems hard to believe that the kitchen would assume that NO ONE was ordering anything. So removing a star for poor performance today. Earlier review: Delicious food. We got the calabacitas and puffy tacos with tofu. The corn tortillas are good. We got Victoria beer for an authentic Mexican experience. And a margarita for a Tex-Mex one. The chips and salsa was also good. The chips were light and fluffy. It’s nice to have a Tex-Mex place with vegan/vegetarian options. The waitress (Mary) was also very good (attentive, made sure the order was correct and good).

Tamale House East is a trendy Mexican spot known for its delicious breakfast and lunch offerings, as well as a charming patio. The restaurant is owned by the nieces and nephews of the late owner of the original Tamale House, carrying on his legacy with tasty tacos and affordable prices. While they don't just serve tamales, their breakfast tacos are particularly popular, featuring flavorful fillings like fluffy eggs, fried potatoes, thick-cut bacon, and fresh salsas.
I'm posting about this 5 star experience while sitting at the bar letting this deliciousness digest. I visited Tamale House as a final stop on my way back to Houston. I cannot recommend enough that you do the same! The food, the atmosphere, and the family that work here are all a joy. Pro tip - the migas with bacon, salsa, and cilantro is 👌💯🔥 Thank you Diana and Carmen for a wonderful part of my Sunday! Cheers

I feel like this place is a hidden gem, I came here for brunch a few weeks ago and really enjoyed my chilaquiles. We came back for dinner tonight and the Al pastor tacos were amazing. The mole tamale was also delicious. The outdoor patio is such a vibe. The owner is very sweet and came by to check on us.

First time to Tamale House and most likely our last. Had the “migas” plate but I’m Not sure why that is called migas. Super disappointed, mostly crispy tortillas and the plate looked very unappetizing. Had to place my own order, tip and rate before getting our food. Wayyyy over priced! The place is beautiful but the sore on the, I guess hostess was uh, gross. Abreva girl! This is my first ever bad review, because it was bad y’all! Sorry Tamale House!

Recently ate here while visiting my friend who lives in Austin. We got in about an hour before they closed and received good service. Your place your order through your phone by scanning the code on the table. Had the chicken tamale with mole plate. It was very good, mole tasted like mole and the tamale was not dry. Would go here again.

Historic Tex-Mex restaurant on East Sixth offering extensive menu highlighted by tacos and tamales, carrying on a tradition since 1958. It has some of Austin's most beautiful patio space, and the indoor dining rooms are no less amazing. We loved their breakfast tacos made with outstanding homemade flour tortillas. The real standout is the phenomenal chipotle migas taco, with scrambled eggs and crispy corn tortilla chips that get tossed in queso with a smoky chipotle salsa, all on a freshly made flour tortilla. One review said: "It’s a rare chilaquiles-adjacent evolution of migas, and something that should belong in the Museum of Breakfast Tacos." Their namesake tamales are excellent too. They have a parking lot in front and street parking in the back.

Bar
Fonda San Miguel is a renowned restaurant that has been influential in shaping the perception of Mexican cuisine in the United States since its establishment in 1975. The colorful hacienda-style space offers a sophisticated interpretation of traditional Mexican dishes. With consulting from Diana Kennedy, it has played a crucial role in defining interior Mexican food both locally and nationally.
We went here for a birthday dinner and had a great dining experience. As a vegetarian, I wasn’t blown away by the limited vegetarian/vegan options on the menu, but the great service was what made it a 5⭐️ meal. The ambience was lovely, right from the entry doorway, to the antechamber and the main dining spaces (we sat in the central space, but there were two other spaces as well). The menu is quite pricy, however it was great to see that reflected in the service as well - our server (Jennifer?) was attentive and polite, and also packed up our food for us after the meal. For drinks we got margaritas - one with lemon and another with watermelon: both tasted great (we’re also quite potent). The queso fundido was melty and delicious - served with corn and flour mini tortillas, the corn tortillas were very good. The sweet potato was actually the best tasting item (we ordered it based on an Instagram reel): perfectly steamed and pan fried. The chipotle shrimp dish was good. The vegetable enchiladas were also decent but nothing great. As it was a birthday meal, the très leches we ordered came with a greeting (not complimentary though) - it was great with mango and mint. It was served with a mango sorbet with granita which was a little strange in its flavor. Overall this was a great restaurant for a special dinner.
Malavika K — Google review
Love this place! The art and paintings all around are just spectacular, it really feels like stepping into Mexico — almost like being in San Miguel de Allende. The service was excellent and the food was good as well. The only downside was that the bar closed without us being told. It would have been nice if our server had let us know and given us a last call, because when I asked for another margarita I was told the bar was already closed. Maybe just a reminder for the staff to announce when the kitchen or bar is about to close would make the experience even better.
Ana F — Google review
Food was great! Service was mediocre. Felt pushy to order specific things. We went on our wedding anniversary and it didn't feel special. No one mentioned it from the reception to the server. Not asking for much but to pick somewhere to celebrate our special occasion, specify it on our reservation, and not even get an acknowledgement is pretty sad. Not asking much. We spent almost $200 total on 2 drinks, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees. I ate here with my friends before for her moving away and you all acknowledged and celebrated when we dined in. Parking here is limited and spills onto neighborhood street parking.
Michelle K — Google review
Awesome atmosphere, great service including free valet parking. The margaritas are STRONG! Food is super flavorful and the tortillas are all made fresh in house. We loved the entire meal and highly recommend. Just don’t eat lunch so you can have proper space for all the heavy Mexican food.
Brennan R — Google review
What a wonderful meal on so many levels! The wagu beed al carbon tacos melt in your mouth. The cauliflower tacos were as delicious as they were beautiful. The trees leches came with a scoop of mango sorbet. Then the ambiance was every bit as good as the food. My wife declared this restaurant as our new celebration restaurant.
John S — Google review
Atmosphere here was fantastic! Love the location and how everything flowed. The food was very tasty. We had Camarones, tostadas appetizers, al pastor tacos, and a classic marg! The camarones was quite large — lots of food to soak up. Slightly spicy but very tasty. The tostadas were amazing — loved these so much and the variety was perfect to get a taste of everything. The Al pastor was also good. Smaller in size but so tasty. My biggest critique was how the waiter we had was honestly a bit unprofessional, seemed rushed and that was inconvenienced him. Not a fan of being rushed during an expensive dinner. The price point for the dishes also did not match up. $30 for 3 pastor tacos? That is crazy. This is something I encourage people to review. The food is tasty but doesn’t live up to the price point.
Matthew P — Google review
Came here with a friend for dinner and had a very pleasant experience. All of the food was delicious and portions were just right. I ended up having a small bone in my chicken and had to return my dish but the waitstaff were extremely courteous about it and handled the situation great. The suiza sauce and tres leches really stood out for me and my friend enjoyed her tostadas as well!
Lena — Google review
I really love eating this place when I visit Austin, but tonight I had to do a pick up order. The fish was delicious but you cannot forget to debone a fish before serving. It could really hurt somebody. But for me I just ate my fish while carefully fishing shards of bone from my mouth in between chews. Very disappointing for a restaurant at this price point.

Pappasito's Cantina is a Tex-Mex chain known for its festive ambiance and signature margaritas. The restaurant sparks passionate debates among locals, particularly regarding its fajitas. Some rave about the authentic atmosphere and colossal fajita platters, while others are deterred by higher prices and its chain status.
Got here around 1130. No wait for a table. The waitress has been very informative of the status of the food. We tried the crab stuffed shrimp. It was fantastic. Shortly after, the food came. It was presented on the plates nicely. Ample amount of food and was warm. If you're in the area, definitely come visit this place. The dessert looks amazing, but I didn't save enough room!

My mom requested this place for her 76th birthday. I was traveling in from Houston and my sister from Dallas. When I called with questions and recommendations to set 9 people the lady that answered was super helpful in walking me through the process and very patient with me. Our waitress was friendly and attentive even with have a few large groups. The food was very delicious and the chicken was juicy and tender. The ribs and shrimp were tender and spiced wonderfully. My only gripe was i wish the table was bigger since we ordered the family platter. But other than that it was quite an enjoyable visit.

Loved the place and the variety of food options. While the interior may look a little dated, the lively crowd and overall vibe were excellent. The food options were all impressive, and I especially enjoyed the crafted and specialty drinks. The fresh guacamole was outstanding, as were the salsa and chili paste they provided when I asked for a spicy salad. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming.

I live in Arizona where it's hard to go a block without seeing some sort of Mexican restaurant. As such, it's pretty hard to impress me when it comes to Mexican food but this place far exceeded my expectations. I was here visiting for a family reunion so we made a reservation for a large group. The reservation process was a breeze and they happily answered any questions we had. When we arrived, they showed us to our table within a few minutes and happily accommodated any requests we had. The restaurant was COMPLETELY packed but our waiter was friendly, attentive, and cheerful throughout the entire evening and our drinks were never empty. Our food also arrived surprisingly quick for how busy the restaurant was and it was hot and fresh. Pappasito's has lofty claims of having some of the best fajitas in town and after having tried them, I can see why. There wasn't a single person at our table who wasn't amazed with how tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned the meats were. Several family members also got tacos and enchiladas and we were all impressed, not just by the flavor and quality ingredients, but with the presentation as well. Eating is something that should be experienced with all five senses and Pappasito's has clearly kept that in mind and delivered in every aspect from flavor to beautiful plating. Since it was a special occasion, we obviously celebrated with some top shelf drinks and those were fantastic as well. I highly recommend ordering from their specialty cocktail menu, as you will not regret it and there are more than enough options to pique your interest. I will say that this was a slightly higher priced menu than you would see at most Mexican restaurants but as the saying goes; "You get what you pay for." so the price is well worth it. Keep in mind, that with quality also comes popularity, so I would highly recommend a reservation even for smaller groups, as there was definitely a noticeable wait for walk-ins when we arrived. To summarize: There aren't many Mexican restaurants that take the time to stand out, so whenever one does, it's worth taking notice and I definitely recommend you come give them a try.

Veracruz All Natural is a popular eatery known for its delicious tacos, including the famous migas taco. Founded by sisters Reyna and Maritza Vazquez from Veracruz, Mexico, the restaurant offers a blend of fresh, organic ingredients with a passion for their culture. Originally a food truck, it has expanded to multiple locations and an extended menu featuring pastor, fish, barbacoa, and shrimp tacos.
Veracruz is a hidden gem for tacos in Austin, TX! I tried the shrimp, barbacoa, and chorizo tacos, and each one was packed with flavor. The salsas were perfectly balanced—not too hot, not too mild—just right. I also had an agua de horchata, which was fresh and tasty. The vibe is great too, with both indoor seating and a covered outdoor patio. It’s a solid spot for a quick taco fix. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Very popular Tex-Mex spot in Austin. The guac was well-made and chips were fresh, thick, & crunchy type. As for the tacos themselves, they were not complex in their flavor profile: tasted like the combination of the ingredients they were made with. Everything inside (egg, peppers, mushroom, etc.) was cooked well so it tasted good but lacking synergy.

Pelons Tex Mex is a lively Mexican restaurant located in downtown, offering a vibrant atmosphere and an expansive patio with various dining spaces. The restaurant greets diners with freshly-fried thin chips and house salsa, setting the stage for a delightful Tex-Mex experience. Guests can enjoy classic Tex-Mex favorites as well as daily specials that support the local music venues.
For anyone on the fence about trying this place because of reviews about bland food, I say go for it! We loved this place, the atmosphere was old Austin with sprawling decks under a huge beautiful oak tree and a cozy interior with tons of charm. The chips and salsa were quite tasty, hard to stop. We ordered veggie quesadilla, carnitas enchiladas and elotes. Nothing bland about any of it, all were delicious, the carnitas very flavorful and the elotes better than a lot of places I've been. We also had the house margarita and the Higher Shelf marg, the upgrade is worth it. Definitely plan to come back to soak in more of Pelon's awesome vibe and try more of the menu!

Dinner here was good. My daughter had the fajitas and said it was the best meal she had eaten in Austin. The cheese dip was excellent. My husband had the enchiladas and he wasn’t a fan of the sauce. I had the trio and it was tasty. Our server was very attentive. We would eat here again.

Chips and queso were great! Hibiscus margaritas were good. Great corn enchiladas! Most are usually made from tortillas but these were different and quite delicious! Jeffrey the server was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere inside could have been better. It was kinda hot in the restaurant and the bathroom was haunted. I'd still go back though for the food.

While visiting Austin, my crew and I decided to skip the hotel breakfast, head next door to Pelons, and indulge (and indulge we did). The service, food, and atmosphere was all amazing. I wish I could have the breakfast tacos every morning of my life — They were THAT good. Highly recommend if visiting Austin!

During our recent visit to Pelons Tex Mex in Austin, we enjoyed the enchiladas and fajitas, both of which were flavorful and well-prepared. The outdoor seating under the expansive live oaks provided a pleasant dining atmosphere. The service was attentive and efficient, enhancing our overall experience. While the margaritas did not meet our expectations, we would consider returning for the quality of the food and the inviting ambiance.

Trudy's North Star is a beloved Tex-Mex gem that has been delighting the taste buds of North Austin locals for over 40 years. Known for its mouthwatering classic queso, made from a secret blend of cheeses, this spot serves up a rich and gooey dip that's perfect with tortilla chips.
Our 1st time here and we will def be coming back. What a great find! Fast service, nice environment and delicious food! We ordered a bunch of stuff and highly recommend the fiesta fajitas, stuffed avocado and the quesadilla

Arrived with a group of my coworkers (eight of us) for dinner and we were seated fairly quickly. For us to be a semi big party the service we received was good and attentive (automatic tip included). I ordered a mango swirl margarita and I really enjoyed it. For appetizers, I ordered the guacamole (came with chip). The guacamole was itself was a little “wet” but the tomatoes and onions were a nice touch but I do enjoy a chunky guacamole. For my meal, I ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. It came with veggies (onions, bell peppers, and zucchini) and a side of rice, choice of beans. The chicken was a tad bit dry and veggies over cooked. One thing I really did like was the green/red salsas. The flavors were nice and it had a good spicy kick to it. Overall, I enjoyed the time spent with my coworkers but the food was lackluster.

Went to Trudy’s for lunch on a Thursday wasn’t busy at all, the staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Overall the food was typical and as expected. Just had a taco salad which was what you would expect, the stuff avocado was just ok. The queso and salsas were good. Got a side of mash and Mexican corn. The mash was pretty good and the corn seems abit mushy. It is a nice place to just hang out and grab a drink though.

This is like a restaurant bar that claims to be a Mexican restaurant. It's a large area, I think it even has a second floor. The food was good, I had the chicken stuffed with chorizo, kind of a staple in this part of Texas. I came in the late afternoon, so I was there for Happy Hour, $5 margaritas. It wasn't too busy, but I would imagine it gets busy during peak hours. Worth a shot, if you want something local.

Cool atmosphere inside or a nice patio with lots of seating. Excellent food and the drinks are just as good, especially the Mexican martinis. The shrimp enchiladas and shrimp tacos were very good. My go to spot up north!

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. There is plenty of parking out front of this Northern Austin location. The restaurant was not terribly busy, and so we were seated promptly. We enjoyed the cheese enchiladas and a side of guacamole. They provide free chips and salsa both red and green. Very tasty! Our guacamole was a generous portion, if not inexpensive. The enchilada plates were very tasty and come with delicious thick corn tortillas made on premises. The service was very good! (A rarity nowadays..) Total bill was $35.72 before tip and included two soft drinks. Adult beverages are available. Seating is extensive with two levels.

Great food, great cocktails, and great service! My group dined on the outdoor patio which offered plenty of shade for a late lunch. The interior of this restaurant is really nice and I noticed a 2nd full bar upstairs. Everyone liked the food and drink. Our server was wonderful!

The original cafe, established in 1954, transitioned to Tex-Mex cuisine in 1993 and is located on West 7th Street. Known for its excellent happy hour deals and delicious food, Maudie's offers a lively and casual dining experience. The menu features favorites like amazing queso, fajitas, and breakfast tacos with just the right amount of spicy salsa.
Has always been the place to go for Tex Mex food. Chips and salsa are always delivered first up. We got the enchiladas and the migas. Both were excellent. Even on a crowded day the service was good. Place was clean and nicely decorated. Parking can be an issue at this location. Overall great place for any meal of the day.

Worst restaurant ever!!!: - undrinkable hibiscus tea - chapula made my stomach so queasy - we were ripped off: •“where is beef” in chaplua, yet they charge for additional beef •charged us beans when it was included •did not take happy hour discount from my padre’s drink while it was during happy hour. - gave us one sopapilla, while menu appeared that it was two.

I'll try not to make this long. I LOVED it here. From the moment i was greeted at the host stand to the moment i walked out: the hostesses were super sweet and friendly, our server Nate was very quick and helpful. I'm asking for him next time. We had the trio appetizer with queso, bean dip and guac, my favorite was the queso. You can tell they put some work into it. The chips and salsa were fresh and spicy, which is very important to me. I got the poblando enchiladas; they were okay, but i enjoyed it! The sauce was not my favorite but the chicken was so flavorful and not dry! Omg the rice and beans were GOOD! FINALLY, some good rice in a tex mex restaurant!! My boyfriend got the tamales with queso and carne on top... O.M.G. DELICIOUS. So fresh and amazing. I also got a fresh lemonade: DELICIOUS as well. I kept watering it down with water so i just had lemonade all night! I wish i couldve tried dessert but I couldn't even finish my plate. Almost everything tasted like it was fresh and made with love. Also the environment was fantastic because the workers actually looked happy to work together, help eachother and interact! The manager was very hands on on the expo line (where the plates come out), which is very nice to see; i love to see team work in a restaurant, AS EVERY RESTAURANT SHOULD. Finally, a good tex mex restaurant in Austin. (Im from Houston) Definitely coming back 🩷 Okay i guess i made this a bit long, lol.

Top notch service from Nate. We have never been before and our minds were blown. Nate told us about the items on the menu that shine, he helped us build a delicious margarita, and hes speed of service was on another level. Will be coming back for fajitas, margaritas, and Nate!

This a perfect spot if you want a good meal at a great price! We went here after a hike nearby and couldn’t have been happier. Getting chips and salsa right away is a big plus ALL day breakfast is a huge Win in my book. Some places close breakfast so early it’s a crime. Especially for people that don’t eat breakfast when they first wake up, I usually wait a few hours before eating Sausage Migas plate was perfectly cooked, and we also got the pancake platter. The pancakes had a vanilla flavor to them, very good Parking was easy Sunday afternoon, but I can see it being challenging if too busy

They dont mention that fajitas for one does not come on a hot plate, only if you order for 2 or more. My boyfriend barely touched his food and the server didnt bother to take it off our tab even though he literally had 3 bites and decided he didnt want it so we had to pay for food that was barely even touched. The employees were yelling at each other and being aggressive and rude which was not nice to watch and extremely unprofessional. Server had a bad attitude, she seemed annoyed and like she didnt care. Food wasn't that great. Server didnt mention that the jalapenos and sour cream I asked for are a dollar each which seemed like quite the upcharge for such simple things. Queso was so thick and plastic like, maybe its made out of velveeta. Bathroom was so disgusting. Definitely do NOT recommend. There are way better restaurants with better service and food.

Maudie’s is a well known consistent eatery that is a staple of all the folks in the Tarrytown area of Austin. They not only have fantastic Tex-Mex standards such as tacos, migas, fajitas and enchiladas, but they also make a nice burger and fries. The inside decor is very nice with a wall of backlit tequila bottles and local art by Tim Sabo. Speaking of tequila, I have never been disappointed by a margarita here. The sidewalk patio dining is also a very pleasant atmosphere. My go-to dishes are the Sausage Migas or the Enchilada’s Josie style, I recommend going with one cheese and one ground beef. This is place is almost alway busy during the main dining hours so go at odd hours if you wish to avoid the crowd and any extended wait times. I could eat here several days a week and be perfectly happy. Good food and good people too. The wait staff and management are extremely friendly, check this place out next time you are in the central/west Austin area. There was even one day last week I went to Maudie’s Cafe twice in one day!

An Austin original! We’ve been eating at Maudies’s for years…great for any kind of Tex-mex you might be craving. It’s a great place for frozen margaritas & breakfast / brunch tacos!! Sissy’s fajita tacos and Pete’s tantalizing tacos are my faves!

Overall, I think this is probably a good spot. However what I had was inedible. The beef enchiladas were bland. Mostly just corn tortillas with 2 tbsp of beef inside. The beans were the worst beans I've had and the rice had a weird texture. Also the table salsa was so hot that I couldn't even eat it. The tortilla chips were excellent though! Great prices. Some other tables food looked much better. Just the beef enchiladas, beans, and rice are bad.

Arrived for lunch on Wednesday before 11 o’clock opening and there was a line formed already. We were seated quickly and soon had warm tortilla chips and spicy salsa in front of us to enjoy. Margaritas on the rocks were perfect, one with tajin. The only disappointment was the queso, it was like ballpark cheese. The entrees were exceptional and rival any other top Mexican food eateries in Austin. The crispy tacos were overstuffed and the guacamole was fresh and delicious with no preservative taste. The cheese enchilada were a top favorite. This small, quaint restaurant was like being in a small town neighborhood, regulars being greeted with hugs from wait staff. Can’t wait to return, will definitely be in a regular lunch rotation for us.

So good! My friend and I split the fajitas for 2 and did not disappoint. The salsa was spicy compared to what we get in MI (no complaints) definitely recommend!

As I approached the entrance at 2pm I noticed people sitting by the front entrance. This made me think they are on the waiting list. So I walked in and no waiting list and we were seated right away. I ordered tea and the Chef Special plate. They brought out complementary chips and some really good and spicy salsa. When the plate arrived it was huge and the food was piled high. From start to finish everything was delicious, cooked perfectly, and the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. Inside the place looked like it has been around for a while but clean. The waitress was helpful and courteous. What I liked the most was the price and the huge portions. As I was leaving notice again different set of people waiting outside by the front… never figured out what that was about? Either way this is a great place to enjoy Mexican food. 👍

I’m torn, the atmosphere is chill, but honestly very run down and dirty- especially the blinds, We were impressed by the prices and the amount of food…until the main courses arrived. Enchiladas were filled and covered in processed cheese! I cannot wrap my head around Mexicans using processed cheese for anything, let alone enchiladas. Texmex is not Mexican. The guacamole was prepared with fresh avocados, the salsa was flavorful, so why skimp on the cheese? Honestly blasphemous to Mexicans,

Bakery
Mexican restaurant
Restaurant
Joe’s Bakery & Coffee Shop is a beloved, family-owned establishment that has been serving up classic Mexican fare and bakery treats for over 75 years. Despite the changing landscape of East Austin, this iconic institution remains a steadfast presence, offering fluffy house-made flour tortillas filled with migas and an unbeatable carne guisada.
Joe's has a history back to 1935, but he actually bought it from his parents in 1962. With his brother-in-law, they opened their business on 7th Street. The brother-in-law left a few months later, amicably. Leaving, Joe to run it sixteen to eighteen hours a day. Relocated, the restaurant 2 doors down to an old lumber yard in 1969, where it still is today.. this is a true Austin icon. It's been around for more than forever, and it's always full, especially on the weekends. You can see from the pictures that usually we get something different, just so we can compare more. But she's a migas, freak, and I love migas, and theirs are incredible, the beans were really good. The bacon was absolutely amazing. If you like, really crispy and flavorable. Yeah, this was it. The attention from the server was pretty good. And you could just tell how many people knew each other coming and going and talking and enjoying it. This is one of the places that makes me really happy that I try to discover all these places.. And share them with y'all. They do have some bakery goods, and this was new this time. It says you have to order them from your table. But if you want your Mexican bakery items, they've got them.. Enjoy

My husband has been getting his breakfast tacos here for years and finally brought me for breakfast! As soon as we entered, it was so nostalgic and reminded me of my valley days. It has that old school, authentic Mexican hole in the wall vibe. The walls are covered with memorabilia and photos of famous people that have stopped by. We even spotted two of the servers on some pictures that must’ve been over 10 years ago. You can tell they are loyal to this restaurant and love what they do! It was pretty busy around 10am on a Tuesday morning, but we spotted a booth that was available. Our server was busy but attended us as quickly as he could. We ordered a coffee to drink and it was such a good roast. Our server made sure it stayed refilled throughout our stay. For breakfast, my husband ordered the Joe’s special and I ordered the barbacoa plate. The prices are pretty expensive for breakfast but the quality of food was worth it. The flour tortillas are homemade and they were buttery and thin, just the way I like them. They were so good we had to order two more. They are smaller than I’m used to so we each had 3 total. My barbacoa was flavorful and not fatty at all. I did order some onion and cilantro on the side which I’m used to eating my barbacoa with but it did come at an upcharge. My eggs were cooked to perfection and the refried beans were delicious. I’m not a big fan of the way they cook their potatoes as they are round spears so my hubby ate those. My husband liked his carne guisada and the bacon was a little too fried for my liking but he sure ate it all. We ate it all up and left nothing on the plate. That’s how good it all was! On our way out, we stopped by at their bakery and saw their options. They offer a variety of traditional sweet bread. We decided to skip out this time as we were so full. We will definitely be back for sure! I will say their breakfast tacos are priced so well ($2.75 each) that i will probably order those next time. Overall, I highly recommend stopping by for your next breakfast and lunch plans!

Joe’s Bakery & Coffee Shop in East Austin is a must for anyone craving authentic Tex-Mex breakfast and traditional Mexican pastries. It’s family-owned and has been serving up some of the best comfort food in the city for generations. The menu is loaded with an extensive variety of breakfast tacos, each one made fresh and packed with flavor, but the real star is the cheesy migas con todo plate. Don’t leave without grabbing a few of their baked goods from the counter! The conchas and empanadas are pure nostalgia. Joe’s blends old-school Austin charm with the warmth of a family-run kitchen.
Cassedy C — Google review
The food delicious! The service (our waiter) was professional, kind, and took good care of us. We ended our meal with some fresh concha from the bakery. Incredible! We can't wait to return to Austin to eat at Joe's!

Such a big disappointment. I have not been here in YEARS and it has significantly changed. There was no greeting with hospitality. In fact the lady that introduced herself with the spiked hair was extremely rude with NO COMMUNICATION skills. The food was terrible. Store bought stale crispy tacos, beef not seasoned. Quesadillas and enchiladas chicken were very bland. The menudo was decent but they charge .75 for cilantro. Like what’s menudo not paired with onion and cilantro? Queso was entirely too thick. I can’t imagine what it does in the inside. This use to be such an amazing place but I will not be coming back here ever. We left most of the food on the plate. We spent 175.00 because it was a large group. Our server Ms Linda was nice and pleasant. She was the only breath of fresh air we encountered.

Eldorado Cafe is a vibrant Mexican eatery that offers a variety of traditional dishes and innovative cocktails. Founded on the principles of family and community, the restaurant prioritizes parent-friendliness, providing a waiting area with toys and books for children. The diverse menu caters to various dietary needs, including vegan and gluten-free options. The kids' menu features grilled chicken and Tex-Mex finger foods like tacos and quesadillas.
An excellent Mexican cuisine with plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan folks. Right from the get go of their chips and salsa sampler to every dish we ordered was so yummy and plentiful. This is an excellent place for anyone who loves Mexican food. A very simple ambience nothing to mention, but the service is awesome and great many people that care and serve you. They patiently answered our questions, made very good suggestions and the result is we all loved 😍 the food.

On the recommendation of friends we gave ElDorado Cafe a try. Be prepared for a wait. We waited outside and enjoyed chips, salsa and beverages. Once seated our waiter promptly took our drink & food order. We ordered Dart Bowl enchiladas and Rene's Awesome enchiladas. Both were good. Sadly the Sopapilla Cheesecake was sold out. The restaurant is small, is nice and has an Austin electic vibe. The staff were nice and attentive. There is first come bar seating. Overall good food, good service, but a long wait (we were a party of 2, waited over an hour and a half for a table). Their site does have a reserve a table option. If you have the time, are craving some solid Mexican food, and good adult or mocktail beverages give them a try.

Eldorado Café never disappoints — the food is absolutely delicious every single time! From their flavorful dishes to their warm, welcoming atmosphere, you can tell they put heart into everything they do. Even more impressive than their tasty food is their generosity. For two years in a row, Eldorado Café has given back to Padron Elementary School, supporting our students and staff in such a meaningful way. It’s amazing to see a local restaurant that not only serves great meals but also invests in its community. Thank you, Eldorado Café, for filling our bellies and our hearts! 💛🌮

Definitely a twist on your average Mexican food restaurant. The salsa sampler is pretty cool but half of them were too spicy to enjoy unfortunately, and I usually ike the heat. The margaritas are fabulous. Best queso in town. Didn’t expect ribs or potatoes bites for appetizers but they were delicious. Also, definitely recommend the chocolate mousse.

Found my place nearby for good Mexican food. Went in for breakfast this morning and sat at the bar. Joaquin was a great bartender. I had a nice drink called "purple people eater" its an Empress Gin based cocktail with blackberry juice among other things ... it was so good I had to have a second one! The migas was delicious had a bit of queso and white cheese on top. It was served with black beans and papas. Their papas has regular and sweet potatoes and is really good. I will definitely go back soon.

Very chill vibe. Authentic Tex mex. Drinks are average but food is good. Nice place to hang out with friends. The service is nice and the servers are very friendly. They make sure that the guests are comfortable and the orders are served as fast as possible. Interiors are nice and has a very Texan country vibe. They also have a few tables outside where you can wait and order drinks to start with. Overall this is a nice restaurant. This was my third time here.

I recently visited ElDorado and was immediately impressed even before I took my first bite. The place was buzzing with energy, and although I was told there’d be a 25 minute wait, I lucked out and was seated in just 10. That kind of start already set the tone for a great experience. The atmosphere? Relaxed, welcoming, and just the right kind of lively. It’s the kind of spot where you can kick back and enjoy good food without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Now let’s talk tacos. I ordered four different kinds, and every single one was a hit. But if you go, do yourself a favor and get Matt’s Everything Taco. It’s a flavor packed powerhouse fried egg, sausage, bacon, potato, hash, queso, jack cheese… it’s like breakfast and comfort food had a delicious baby. Honestly, it was one of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The coffee was smooth and satisfying, rounding out the meal perfectly. And shoutout to our waiter friendly, knowledgeable, and quick with the service. He helped us navigate the menu and made sure everything ran smoothly. If you’re in the area and craving bold flavors with a laid back vibe, ElDorado is a must visit. I’ll definitely be back.

We visited for dinner as a party of 3 (2 adults and a toddler). For drinks we got the Purple People Eater (cocktail) and La Loma Lindo (mocktail). Both we very basic and pretty disappointing tbh, there was barely any alcohol in it. We also got the Shiny Ribs and Papas Rellenas for appetizers. Both were extremely good and I highly recommend it. We went on a Saturday so I got the Barbacoa Taco (deal of the day?), Thunder Rosa Taco, Too Hot to Tot (veg taco) and Grilled Chicken (kids meal). For dessert we got the chocolate pistachio Bundt Cake. Overall, our food was excellent and service was great.! Drinks were disappointing tbh. Upon seating, we got served a basket of chips, and we ordered guacamole with it, it was a bit spicy and perfect!

Sazon is a no-frills bar and grill that offers house-made mole sauce and other interior Mexican specialties. Chef Margarito Aranda serves up dishes like cochinita pibil with pickled onion relish called "xni pec," empanadas filled with huitlacoche, ceviche, and roasted chicken quarter with mole Oaxaqueno.
This is a genuine local hole in the wall. They don't get a lot of business so if you happen to come and it's a little more crowded, be patient with the one waitress taking care of everybody. The food was great. The portions were very appropriate for the price. I also love that they have a patio that you can take your dogs onto.

Wowzers is this place good! Had the Cochinita Pibil w/ a side of mole. Everything was great—the pork, the rice, the plantains. The mole was some of the best I’ve ever had. Their 1816 margarita was divine. Their salsa is beyond what you’d expect. And the flan….what a way to end the meal. On top of this, every dish is about $15. If you want Mexican in Austin, this is a no-brainer.

Always a great meal at Sazon! Love all of their enchilada options and it always feels like home when we walk in the door. Stopped in today (Valentine’s Day) and enjoyed their special holiday strawberry margaritas. Now I have to decide which enchiladas I want today. The verde, pipian or mole. Can’t go wrong!

This is a fantastic find in South Austin!! They mean it when they say it's how South Austin used to be. The parking lot was a little sketchy and the place looks rough but charming. Been here several times, and although their food is sub-par, they have some of the best corn tortillas I've ever had ever had. Torchy's Tacos is a popular chain known for its creative and affordable Mexican street-food-style tacos, including breakfast options. The restaurant originated from a successful food truck and has since expanded throughout the city. It offers a menu filled with inventive taco varieties, such as green chile pork, fried avocado, and Baja shrimp. Additionally, their Texas-style tacos featuring brisket, smoked sausage, and fried avocado are highly praised.
Service at the bar and food area was great. The staff went above and beyond and found a pair of sunglasses I left behind. The atmosphere is hip, and they have happy hour drink and food specials. We bought margaritas, which were good but not overly strong. We like the Democrat taco option the best - yummy brisket and traditional toppings. The fried avocado taco was nicely done. I would definitely recommend!!

Just a usual chain taco shop, not a fancy special taco shop. We didn't know this place wasn't an authentic taco shop as tourists! 😞 Food was just okay, but far from great. You'd better not pick this place if you're looking for a great taco place.

Tacos I’d say are mid, nothing mind blowing. Creative flavors, but otherwise wouldn’t say was anything amazing. I got the steak fajita taco, migos breakfast taco, a fried chicken taco, and the street corn. Street corn was very good actually and highly recommend it. Steak was a little bit tough for the steak fajita one. The fried chicken was ok, just a chicken finger inside a flour tortilla. This restaurant is a tad bit expensive for her it is. I paid $21 for 3 tacos and a half order of street corn. Tacos are about $6 each, a little pricey for what it is if you ask me. Environment was nice and clean. Restaurant is serviceable if you want a quick reliable meal that’s convenient. Otherwise, nothing to really write home about.

Did we spot Bruce Willis in front of Torchy’s? Anyways, back to Torchy’s. Danni and Moses were very helpful and I was excited to try The Republican gluten free and dairy free (because of Danni’s expertise). It was smoky and not fatty. Loved it. The boys liked the swivel chairs. Great spot to go to when visiting the library.

We sat at the bar and were finally served a drink, but then completely ignored for over 10 minutes. I eventually had to go up to the counter to order. The staff was rude and unhelpful, the food was mediocre at best, and the drinks were just bad. Definitely not the experience we were hoping for and won’t be returning.

My meal was perfect: the food had a punchy taste and smaller options were just right for my half-hungry stomach. Love the ordering system through the terminal. My order came out fast.

The food was good, service great. The staff was incredibly kind and dealt with some customers who didn't do a very good job cleaning up after themselves. Great staff, Torchy's! Get the Baja tacos and churros!

Restaurant
Grizzelda's is a charming and stylish restaurant that offers a diverse selection of central and coastal Mexican cuisine. The establishment was born from a culinary exploration trip through Tulum and Mexico City, which inspired the beachy and artistic ambiance. The interior, designed by the owners, exudes a relaxed coastal vibe with palm frond wallpaper, Mexican tapestries, and vibrant pink margaritas.
Grizzeldas has a really nice atmosphere. The place is really nice to look at! The food was pretty good! Their green salsa that comes with the chips is really good! It's not super spicy but spicy enough that you don't want to stop eating it. Our server was nice and friendly, the music was a little loud that it was a bit hard to hear, but other than that, it was a great experience!
Leti — Google review
The place was cute, got parking immediately. The drinks were okay. I would say $28 for 3 palm sized fish tacos were extreme. The fish was fried almost to a crisp. You could barely taste the cod. The tacos itself were bland. Service was great, our waitress was on top of it. The kicker was the wellness charge of $3 per person. We asked what it was and the waitress said it helps pay the health insurance of the workers? If you don’t want it, you have to ask for it to be removed. This was on top of paying the set gratuity of 20% for our table of 6. I wondered if the employer should pay for this instead of automatically adding it to every check and hoping people don’t catch it.
Carol D — Google review
The food was good, drinks were even better. Our server was sweet and on point. We did not make any reservations and were seated outside in the back. It was a pretty humid night but they had fans in the back so it helped a little. It did make it hard to hear your dinner party with the fans on. Big fan of chips and salsa and I loved their homemade chips, the green sauce was the best in my opinion. The next time I'm in Austin, I will be sure to come back for another round ☺️
Delesha K — Google review
Absolutely loved Grizzeldas. The spicy margarita is amazing and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My friends had fajitas and went crazy for them. Look at the cheese. I did the steak tacos and everything was packed with flavor. Absolutely recommend going here.
Adam R — Google review
This place wasn’t it. We made reservations and sat inside. The customer service was kind and fast — honestly, no complaints there. The food, on the other hand, was below average and lacked flavor. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which the staff described as a churro-batter waffle with crunchy, single-battered chicken tenders and caramelized pecans. Unfortunately, none of that held true. The waffle was so bland that I couldn’t even tell it was supposed to be “churro.” The chicken wasn’t crunchy — it tasted more like a reheated chicken strip covered in fluffy batter, leaving behind an unpleasant fried film. And don’t get me started on the pecans. The menu promised caramelized pecans, but what I got were plain, dry pecans that seemed straight from the bottom of a bag. Not one ounce of caramelization in sight. On the brighter side, my friend ordered the strawberry French toast. It was tasty — a little too sweet for me personally, but enjoyable overall. If you’re not into super sweet or soggy toast, I’d recommend asking for the sauce on the side. Customer Service: 9/10 Food: 4/10 Price: 6/10 Overall, I paid $30 for them not only to play in my face but also to pay for their staff’s insurance (I’m not kidding — there’s a charge for that). I would NOT come here again willingly.
Dake — Google review
We were looking for a restaurant with gluten-free options not far from the Austin airport on a Friday night. Grizzelda's was able to take us as walk ins and seated us at the bar. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. The atmosphere was bar like, which was perfectly fine with us. Our bartender also served as our server and she was outstanding, friendly, and efficient.

We tried Grizzelda’s for the first time and it is the real deal. Food is fantastic and the atmosphere is casual yet comfortable. Several large groups were easily accommodated. Steak fajitas were top notch. Good choice of tequilas. Will definitely return here often.

Good service, mediocre food with overpriced small portions. The only thing good thing was the chips and queso. We ordered quesadillas and enchiladas, both lacked flavor.

Tacodeli is an Austin-based taqueria chain that has been a local favorite since its opening in 1999. Known for its wide variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options, Tacodeli also offers a breakfast menu featuring fluffy pasture-raised scrambled eggs. The cult-favorite spot is famous for its creamy Dona sauce and best-selling Cowboy taco made with beef tenderloin, grilled corn, onions, roasted poblano, guacamole, and queso fresco.
Amazing little taco place in the middle of downtown!! Tacos, cheese dip and margaritas were all amazing!! The taste and attention to combing flavors together is wry well done! Highly recommend!! P.S. stay away from the habanero salsa unless you want it HOT!!!
Natalie M — Google review
Tacodeli has been a long time favorite of mine. Excellent food & service. Great vegetarian + vegan options. You have to try the Doña salsa - it's the best!
Jaede C — Google review
Taco Deli on 3rd & Congress is like the Whole Foods version of tacos — clean, fresh, and making you feel healthier even if you just ate three. It’s not Torchys-level chaos with wild combos like “deep-fried brisket lava explosion,” but hey, simplicity slaps sometimes. You’re paying about $4–5 a taco. The staff are absolute angels. Fast and friendly. It’s an Austin classic taco location, not flashy, not Instagram thirsty, just quietly, consistently good. Like that one friend who doesn’t party hard but always shows up with Advil the next morning.
Adam J — Google review
The service was horrible! The person who took our order rushed us and seemed bothered. When we asked questions, she just said whatever you want. The tacodeli bowl was 50% beans and bland. The shrimposito was sad. It lacked anything. The price was definitely not matching the food we received. Would not come again.

My favorite tacos in the world. I used to go to the Barton skyway location back in 2003. And I still come to taco deli every time I visit Austin. As a vegetarian, the Heather is the most delicious taco in the world.

The upscale Tex-Mex restaurant is known for its tableside-mixed guacamole, sizzling fajitas, decadent desserts, and signature margaritas.
Relaxed atmosphere. Great fish tacos. Staff was very nice. I’d have taken a photo of my food but I ate it too fast. Loved that the rice had a little spice to it. Even the pinto beans were good.

Stopped off for an early lunch with my husband and was greeted and warmly served by Sarah! She was attentive to everything throughout without feeling overbearing or rushing us as other places have. The food was amazing, fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere was great and welcoming. I got the Iron Steak and each bite was better than the last. Hands down the best steak I’ve had in Austin and cooked to a perfect medium rare as asked. I know the night life here is always on point but if you need a good lunch with amazing food and great service I strongly encourage you to check out Iron Cactus!

Loved this place. The salsas were perfect. The warm fire roasted was delicious. The tableside guacamole was amazing. The entrees were delicious such as the chicken enchiladas. Really enjoyed the drinks as well. The cajillo coffee was just amazingly smooth! Def try that. The cucumber martini was also delicious. They do food & drinks really really well. Also the the dessert was worth a try. It looks gorgeous and tastes just as great. Upstairs patio seating is popular. However they do have bar seating & indoor seating available. The service was good. When it got busy, we could tell. Gratuity was included on our visit (20%).

We have been to both Iron Cactus locations. To start they have chips and a traditional salsa as well as a smoky warm one which we loved. Order the guac, and they hand make it at your table - a fantastic experience. Their offerings are the normal spread of Tex-Mex and everything we have tried has been good. Note that you should ask if you like spicy - the kitchen will add Jalapenos and such.

Waitress made our night. The hostess was not friendly when we walked up but the waitress and the food were great. Amy R was very sweet and even gave us a personal note with our check thanking us for coming in. The food was great too.

Iron Cactus was amazing food and hospitality. They switched over to being a seed oil free restaurant. Which has elevated the taste, and leaves you feeling amazing. This is located right next to the iconic Comedy mothership, so it’s a great place to grab food/drinks before/after a show.

Ken L — Google review
I thought the food was really good and tasty! Everything had a lot of flavor. The issue with my experience was the service. We had a reservation set and when we walked in the host was scrambling to get everything ready. The table was also not properly set, we had utensils missing and when we asked the server to bring out the missing utensils they were never brought out. We had to ask multiple times. Same happened with water. We would ask for more and the server would come back multiple times, and not bring it. I will say, the food runners did a good job bringing everything out and explaining what each dish was. Also we were sat outside and they turned the light off at one point so we were sitting in the dark.
Angela L — Google review
The whole experience was great! Our server Eric was very knowledgeable and gave a great run down on the whole menu. Every dish was delicious but the quesadilla, ceviche, and corn were our favorite. Drinks were great too. Definitely worth a try!
Matea C — Google review
La Condesa is a beautiful restaurant — nicely decorated with a stylish, modern vibe. The bar is cute and offers a good variety of cocktails. The appetizers like the guacamole and the queso fundido with peppers were good, though the esquites were not our favorite. We ordered a huarache, sopes, zucchini tostadas, a short rib quesadilla, and cochinita. The food was just okay overall — the sopes and quesadilla were decent, but nothing that really stood out. Service was average. We mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, but the waiter said they didn’t offer any complimentary dessert. When we ordered one, he also said they didn’t have candles so if you’re planning to celebrate, bring your own! Overall, the place is lovely and the ambiance is nice, but honestly, the food didn’t impress me. I’d much rather go to Suerte the food and cocktails there are much better, and you can tell the difference right away: Suerte is always packed, while at La Condesa you can easily get in without a reservation.
Abigail S — Google review
Great food and plenty of options. My team and I really enjoyed the Agua Fresca - we had the Hibiscus and pineapple mint. We ordered many of the appetizers to start and did a few of the main courses family style. With a few tortillas, this worked really well. The servers were attentive and it was a really great experience
Chris G — Google review
We had an amazing experience from start to finish. All of the staff members were very friendly and inviting. Our server, Mike T, was very knowledgeable and personable. He had great recommendations and we felt really taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious and we would 100% come back. We had the short rib quesadillas, Sopes, Crudo, and Tres Leches. Mike recommended the Mezcal of Rosaluna Joven, which was stronger than I expected, but delicious and we also tried the Sandia Sabía cocktail which was delightful! Everything was great!
Sami V — Google review
This place is a true hot spot for authentic Mexican food. From the moment you walk in, the décor is amazing and sets the tone for a great dining experience. I was traveling for work and decided to stop by. I sat outside on the patio, which had a great atmosphere. I ordered the carnitas tacos and their ceviche special—both were absolutely outstanding. To top it off, I enjoyed a mezcal cocktail that paired perfectly with the meal. The location is lively and popular, so expect it to be crowded and plan for a bit of a wait. But trust me, it’s well worth it for the food, service, and atmosphere.

My wife and I attended the first collaboration of their Summer of Ceviche series featuring EnsenadaATX's Ceviche Tostada, it was amazing! Great atmosphere and cocktails. Service was very quick and waiters were super nice. Our meals themselves were a little disappointing. Nothing was bad, but the salmon was too bland for my liking. The guac and chips was more memorable. But would probably return to try other items on the menu.

Very welcoming staff, laid back atmosphere, and the food was worth the visit. If you are looking for great flavor with a little kick at the end this is your place to eat. The menu should be updated to what is actually available. The dishes that piqued my curiosity were no longer available. Either way this place is worth a second visit.

Cool little spot for happy hour and dinner. They have parking, but it’s limited, and can be difficult during peak hours. Great spot for happy hour on Tuesdays. Half off margs and tacos a la carte on Tuesdays. They also have other happy hour deals. We sat at the bar where the bartender Scott gave us a couple recommendations after I had asked about the frozen margaritas. I’m not a huge tequila person (yeah yeah, not the best place to be for happy hour), but they can make other drinks without. My friend ordered a frozen house marg and I ordered a frozen house marg with watermelon muddled. We ordered the Z Trio which came with their salsa, queso, and guac. It was fantastic. I really loved the queso! The thin chips also pair well with the trio. Regarding customer service...Scott was helpful, but I’m not sure if it was because he was in a bad mood or if I asked way too many questions that he seemed somewhat annoyed. He rarely checked in on my friend and I, even though we were sitting right in front of him at the bar. It’s astounding how people rave about the customer service here, but I simply did not receive that same experience. The food and drinks were good nonetheless. I would come by again for happy hour out of convenience since it’s close, but wouldn’t go out of my way for this spot.

The barbacoa was so tender and not greasy. All the ingredients meshed well together. *Parking: I went to 6th st location on a Sat, 11am. I got lucky and found free parking in front of restaurant. Later than that, expect to drive around for parking, as it's limited.

I loved the place! We were visiting from Houston during COVID and they had good precautions. The food was amazing but what made the visit a lot more enjoyable was BLUE! Yes that is the name of our waitress! She was extremely friendly, helpful and basically everything she recommended I got and I loved it! Even if the food was not that good her attitude would have made it enjoyable. I got the chicken fried chicken and didn’t even finish it because it was too much (good problem). The mashed potato was like heaven in my mouth and veggies were good (not a big veggie fan). The mango margarita was sweet and would definitely get it again when I visit again. Favorite part was the corn bread! Soft and not too sweet, just right. We sat outside and it was perfect for pictures (which Blue offered to take without us even asking ❤️). Extremely recommend this place.

Stopped in for dinner as this was with walking distance of our Air BnB. Food did not disappoint. Wife's frozen margarita was partially frozen but it was good and so was my mojito. Wife has the pork & chorizo meatloaf and I had the chicken dish off the summer menu. Both were well seasoned with just the right amount of heat to give it a great flavor. We'll definitely go back.

Probably the best Tex-Mex I’ve ever had! Absolutely delicious!! The presentation was great, quality of food was suburb and staff was prompt. My food was great! I loved the salad with steak! Unfortunately, my boyfriend got the Western burrito (or tacos), and they replaced the potatoes with tater tots. It looked like a kids' meal. He was really disappointed and thinks the quality is going downhill. My food was fantastic. I was sad he didn't enjoy his meal as much as I enjoyed mine.

Couldn't decide what I wanted because there were so many delicious sounding options...so I got a whole feast and I have no regrets. The Mofaux, Mr. Orange, and Baja Shrimp tacos rocked. Loaded street corn and I truly understand now why their queso is award winning. A highlight of my weekend visit.

I seriously cannot believe how good Torchy’s Tacos is. From the moment you walk in the door, you realize why this place is otherworldly. The queso is out of this world. And the tacos aren’t just good tacos, they’re REALLY good tacos. It will have you contemplating ever trying a different Tex-mex place again. Seriously, how can it get any better than this?

If you asked me to write a review when i came here the first time a few years ago it would have been unenthusiastic. The food is always good and it’s hard to mess up a marg but whenever I sat at the bar i felt like I wasn’t welcome and no one wanted me here so I rarely came and sat down but then we came in one night when Luke was working and now we show up once a week. Luke immediately made us feel welcome, and it was the first time I came with my boyfriend I even turned to him and said “wow it’s nice to actually be served and interacted with.” After that first visit Luke remembered who we were and always made us feel very welcome every time and my boyfriend who is not the biggest conversationalist and doesn’t like strangers will only sit at the bar if Luke is working. Luke is great he deserves a raise.

Curra's Grill Oltorf is a local favorite adorned with vibrant art, offering a variety of Mexican dishes and renowned for its avocado margaritas. The restaurant's founder, Jorge Garcia, hails from northern Mexico and introduced Austinites to the Yucatan specialty of cochinita pibil. The menu features classic Mexican flavors such as al pastor enchiladas, cochinita pibil, and steak tacos with Oaxacan coffee grounds.
Walked in and was pleasantly surprised how nicely decorated the interior was. The inside had a vibrant color and Mexican flair. We both ordered enchiladas of different types. One was Cancun Shrimp enchiladas and the other was Chicken mole enchiladas. Both came with our choice of beans and rice. When the plates arrived they both looked liked like art pieces and tasted really good. Was very pleased with this place overall and can definitely say will be back to try different dishes.

Curra’s never disappoints! Their authentic mole is rich, complex, and layered with flavor in a way only true Mexican kitchens can achieve. And of course, you can’t visit without trying their iconic aguacate margarita. So refreshing and dangerously smooth and delicious! By to mention, unlike anything else in Austin. Even on a packed night, the staff went above and beyond, offering me a drink while I waited for a table. Little gestures like that speak volumes about their ability hospitality and keep me coming back. If you want a place where the food is as memorable as the service, Curra’s is it.
Mari Q — Google review
We came into Curra's the Monday after Grand Prix weekend when all restaurants seems overbooked. We were seated immediately for a late lunch around 1-2pm. Staff were very fast and attentive and explained the menu for us. This was very different than what we're used to with California-Mexican food. The spice level is intense, but we really enjoyed the bright flavors as well. The dishes might have been a tad too spicy for us, and we have decent spice tolerance, but we'd come back just to try more of their menu. I ordered the patos en mole tacos, and my dad got the cochinita pixel, both so flavorful and satisfying. We would definitely come back.

Initially, the impression of this establishment was that it would offer a suitable dining experience with satisfactory service. I can confirm that the food was of high quality, with superb taste; however, there should be more generous portion sizes, and if a smaller portion is served, the price should reflect that. Regrettably, the coffee was tasteless and unappealing; I will not be purchasing coffee here again. The staff member serving us displayed a problematic attitude from the beginning, despite our being courteous and not difficult. For example, I requested another coffee due to a sugar stain; although I tried it with regular brown sugar, the taste remained unpleasant—indeed, gross. The server's attitude was unprofessional, characterized by eye-rolling and sighing, as if she were exhausted. At the end of our visit, when we requested separate tickets, she sighed again, implying difficulty in processing the bill. Additionally, she did not check if my companions wished to order more soda. I could have left a generous tip, but her attitude discouraged this. My companions mentioned that this was their first and last visit; they also noted that the waitress at Denny's on Oltorf was more genuine and pleasant. I attempted to contact the manager to report these issues; however, the representative who answered was unwilling to provide her name or the manager’s, and I informed them I would follow up via email.

Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ is a permanent trailer known for its mesquite-smoked BBQ with a Tex Mex twist. It offers a contemporary take on Tex-Mex cuisine, featuring dishes like smoked brisket tacos with serrano salsa, pulled chicken with guacamole, and carnitas. The establishment also serves traditional Texas BBQ favorites such as charred meats and a commitment to local and organic ingredients.
Wow! The tacos were amazing! Didn’t expect to have such huge tacos! The pulled pork tacos was out of this world. The chicken taco was exceptional too! The brisket is good, perhaps a bit dry, but well flavoured. Still one of the better briskets I tried. If you are around the area definitely hit this spot up. Definitely worth the trip! They open quite early at 7:30 am so perfect for breakfast too! Super recommended!

I don’t think I can say say enough great things about this place in one review. I have wanted to come to Valentina’s for years now. I heard so many great things about the food and the staff that I knew it was a must hit on my stop in Austin. They have one of the best briskets that I have ever had if not the best. They didn’t disappoint in any way. The food was better then I ever thought it could be and the flavors that there crew and pitmaster make are nothing short of incredible. It truly is Tex Mex Art that they making. Thank you so much to Everyone at Valentines for making our visit so amazing and we can’t wait to go back. If you could only make one stop in all of Texas this should be it.

The wait wasn't too bad on a Thursday mid-morning, about 25 minutes, they had a variety of selections, mains and sides, friendly service and really good pork short ribs, brisket and carnitas. Their tacos are a really good size and they have multiple size selections for their sides/appetizers. Their chips are really good, hearty enough to hold their delicious queso, ensure you get the extra brisket! The flour tortillas they use for their tacos as well as the Buns for their sandwiches are so soft!
Patty F — Google review
This place single handedly changed my opinion of Tex Mex food. Get here as soon as they open because the line to order and wait after ordering can be 2+ hours long! It’s worth the wait. I would recommend looking at their daily menu for their unique menu items of the day and getting a classic brisket tacos. The sides are great as well, highly recommended the corn.
Erica M — Google review
This is a brand new build, building and area are beautiful. I'm not from Austin . Valentine's was a recommendation for breakfast tacos Everything was homemade from the tortilla to the slice of brisket. I ordered "The Real Deal Holyfield." it was a little pricey, especially if you're from the Houston area, where we pay $1.99 for a breakfast taco. But let me tell you, I'd pay it again it was that good. Try it and let me know what you think, I'll be waiting for your feedback.
Elizabeth B — Google review
We arrived for lunch and found ample parking available. A line had already formed, but it only took about 10 to fifteen minutes before we ordered. It was a nice day, and we sat in a small covered outdoor area, but there's also indoor seating. This was my first time here, and it didn't disappoint. All three of my holy trinity items (brisket, pork rib, and sausage link) were worth the drive! The brisket taco, "Hollywood Style", was excellent as well! When picking your sides, be sure to include the chips and queso!
Tim T — Google review
I wanted to love this BBQ but I left only liking it a lot. I see why it's praised. The brisket is rich, the ribs are sweet and savory, and the chicken retains it's juicyness. However, the brisket was somewhat dry, the ribs lacked texture, and the chicken tasted like chicken. The tacos are all very good, but I don't see what the fuss is about. Very good is not great, and there are many very good tacos in Texas. I plan to return for breakfast options because I'm excited to fully explore their menu. I left without a favorite because nothing stood out. At the level of BBQ Valentina's aims for, more thoughtful critique is necessary. So, it's very good BBQ, but this isn't a show stopper yet. As of this review on 8/11/22, only the food truck is taking orders and there's limited shade against the sun while waiting in line.
Michael B — Google review
Valentina's did not disappoint! All the food was delicious, nothing to complain about! The ribs were perfectly smoked, the brisket on the Brisket Taco melted like butter, the Roasted Corn and Charro Beans were good as well! You should definitely give this place a try if you are in the Austin area! 👍🏽 To boot the staff were all very friendly and helpful! Feels good to be greeted by cheerful people!

El Naranjo, located on South Lamar, is a Mexican restaurant known for its traditional interior Mexican cuisine crafted by chef Iliana De La Vega. The menu features dishes like rancheros, huevos benedictos, and chilaquiles with a unique twist compared to Tex-Mex joints.
I’ve eaten dinner AND brunch here, and both were fabulous. For dinner we tried the ceviche and empanadas to start, and the halibut a la diabla and one of the seasonal/special moles with halibut as our mains. I’d recommend it all. You can’t go wrong with traditional Oaxacan mole prepared by a James Beard award winning chef. For brunch we started with the vanilla pan dulce, made in-house, because I wanted to dip it in my cafe de olla. It’s a must. For mains we had the huevos rancheros, huevos benedictos, and the chilaquiles divorciados with over-medium eggs. All were delicious. The atmosphere is great, the decor is modern and minimalist yet relaxing, and their authentic tableware compliments the presentation of the food. The service is impeccable. Your water glass is never empty and the servers are so knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. Caesar is amazing and will take the best care of you.

Incredible food. Wonderful, all made from scratch. Meat and sauces were incredible. I had a cocktail, it was delicious and light. Can't recommend highly enough, will be back. Gerry was the perfect waiter, and was so helpful in choosing the right meals for us. His recommendations were spot on.

This restaurant offers an authentic Mexican dining experience, with incredibly friendly staff and delicious food. It’s also quite vegetarian-friendly. We tried the chocolate tamales with marigold ice cream, and they were absolutely amazing.
Elif C — Google review
Unremarkable surroundings showcase average tasting food. Pork was a 4-5 star but duck gamey and not prepared well. Drinks are pricey even for Austin. Waiter was very sweet but novice at best.
Cliff C — Google review
El Naranjo’s food is always excellent. Their menu often features drinks and dishes inspired by specific states in Mexico. I’ve had and enjoyed their dinner before (highly recommend the filete and house-made ice cream), but this was my first time having brunch. The queso fundido (with handmade corn tortillas), ceviche and huevos benedictos were all impressive. I definitely scarfed down the queso before managing a photo (oops). And I definitely couldn’t go without a jar or 4 of their salsa macha. They do ship, but I still tend to purchase extra whenever I’m in Austin.
Dani — Google review
Went for brunch and we loved it! everything was delicious and fairly affordable. The mole was some of the best we have ever had, and the chilaquiles were super fresh and zingy.
Isabelle W — Google review
We visited this place mainly for the chiles en nogada, the fact that they serve them it's already a win and they were good. Tortillas here are really good as well, kinda reminds me of my home town.
Miguel A — Google review
We’ve been going to El Naranjo since their previous location and always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, this is the third time we’ve found human hair in our food at the new location. The first time we thought it might’ve been an accident, but after two more times, it’s completely unacceptable. It’s a real shame because the food itself is great, but the hygiene standards are clearly not. It seems like employees aren’t wearing hairnets or following proper sanitation practices, and that’s just not okay for any restaurant. Until they address this issue seriously, we won’t be coming back.

Manuel's is a popular spot in Austin, Texas, known for its airy ambiance and locally sourced Mexican cuisine. For over 25 years, this restaurant has been serving high-quality dishes made with non-GMO corn products and premium all-natural Texas beef, chicken, pork, as well as wild-caught seafood like Tuna and Black Drum. The menu features Mexican food infused with unique flavors and steeped in tradition.
My family and I have been going to Manuel’s for years. It’s our favorite restaurant in Austin. Sitting on the patio is the best but when weather doesn’t permit inside is nice as well. Our favorite dishes are shrimp flautas with chipotle lime sauce and lomo de res. Great cocktails and wonderful service. A fun place to take out of town guests!

Food and service were amazing!! Loved the drink selection and presentation of everything! Lots of gluten free and vegetarian options as well. Our server Jos was very knowledgeable on what drinks paired with the meals we chose, which made everything even better. The food was fantastic but honestly I’d go back just based on the drinks alone. It was a perfect night out!

Fantastic food, great queso with tortillas and fajitas are stellar! Beer is reasonably priced and there is a good happy hour but they make you sit in a specific area where the seats are less comfortable and not great for differently able people.
Nicholas B — Google review
This is the 2nd time I’ve been to Manuel’s. The first time, I loved it so much but hubby didn’t so we hadn’t come back for 3 years or so. I think he’s a fan now! The Campeche was fresh; very watery but I assume that’s how traditional campeches are. I loved the shrimp in it; the fish was but the shrimp was the star for me. My crab enchiladas were amazing - they better be since they were almost $40. But I don’t regret ordering them at all. They were overstuffed with fresh crab. The better sauce of the 2 was the chipotle cream sauce. Great texture and not overly smoky, which I don’t like smoky at all. The fajitas were a mixed opinion for me. They didn’t look appetizing but they tasted good. Even with the sizzle, I didn’t like how there was such little grill marks and char on the meat. The fixins were really good except sadly, their version of Mexican rice is lacking in flavor. The flan was small but good. It had coconut flakes in it so don’t order it if you’re not a coconut fan. The parfaits were good too but it’s really just vanilla ice cream with layers of sauce. Nothing complicated about it at all. The chocolate sauce however wasn’t the typical thin Hershey’s sauce but this viscous, delicious, velvety sauce that really stood out to me. It was the best chocolate sauce I’ve ever had. Not sure if it was homemade though since the waiter didn’t know either. I highly recommend Manuel’s for true Mexican food!
Kim B — Google review
Love Manuel’s! We had a great meal & drinks there last night delicious! Love their patio too. Highly recommend!
Loren G — Google review
When you want tasty Mexican food - go to Manuel’s! Their recipes are unique, flavorful, and the quality is top notch. I especially love the chilled seafood cocktail appetizers like ceviche and campechana. The apps are all generous and portioned for two. The cactus salad and Lomo de Puerco pork tenderloin with Avocado sesame seed salsa are standouts, and so are the mushroom quesadillas. It really depends on your mood as there are so many delicious choices.
Polina — Google review
It’s been 25 years since I lived in Austin on Jollyville Rd. Manuel’s is still just as good, maybe even better than it was back then. Service was superb, food was unusual and outstanding, and the atmosphere was festive, but not overly loud. My server recommended the most delicious sauce to pair with my shrimp enchiladas.
Diana L — Google review
Friends took me out to eat at Manual’s for dinner. We were offered complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. Both were amazing. We ordered beef fajitas for two. The meat was soft, tender and flavourful. The sides were good too. The restaurant decor was very classy and posh. The service was good. We enjoyed our meal and the ambience very much.

Additionally, El Mercado is dog-friendly, featuring two patios where owners can dine with their furry companions.
Great salsa, margs, and enchiladas. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating and a music venue. They’ve had to raise their prices with inflation so it’s not the great deal it used to be. But the lunch specials for $11 with beans and rice is phenomenal. I recommend this place to friends in the area who want TexMex. My favorite dish so far is the “queso and chili meat sauce Tex Mex enchiladas”

I've been here several times over the years. My most recent visit, I went with my mom and my dog. The back patio was so nice. The restaurant is very dog-friendly, which is great. They provided my dog, Bogart, a water bowl. The service was great. Our waiter, Trent, was very friendly. The food was delicious - my mom and I shared an order of queso and chicken fajitas. The manager, Casey, checked on us as well and talked to us a bit. All in all, a nice dinner. I will be back again soon.

Tacodeli is an Austin-based taqueria chain that offers a variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options, including a breakfast menu. The restaurant is known for its delicious tacos, with options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Customers can enjoy their meals inside the cozy seating area or opt for picnic-style seats outside. Tacodeli also prides itself on its sustainable practices, such as using paper straws and offering fair trade sodas.
Good tacos with high quality protein. They are pricey and not that big, but they are packed with flavor and made perfectly. I had a triplet of a scallop, shrimp, and pork belly taco. The seafood tacos were good but the pork belly was something else. Worth the price to try and to treat yourself once and awhile. They have daily specials as well, which is how I got the scallop taco. The seating indoor was very limited, but some outdoor seating and a small pavilion on the other side of the parking lot. Good taco spot overall, nothing over the top but still left satisfied.
Brandon L — Google review
My husband and I stopped by Tacodeli for the first time, and we were both really impressed! The food was fresh, flavorful, and the tacos we tried had something special about it. We really enjoyed the variety on the menu and how well the flavors came together. It’s clear that quality ingredients and care go into the food here. The only small thing we noticed was that the flour tortillas could be cooked just a little more. It’s minor compared to how good everything else was. Overall, our first impression was excellent.

A very refreshing taste in the Taco arena. I ordered FRONTERA FUNDIDO SIRLOIN tacos. The beef was tender and full of flavor. I tried three of the four salsa toppings with a side of chips and queso I liked how the chips were served in a clear, sealed bag. The atmosphere was very inviting, and clean. A variety of seating options including patio, bar style, and tables. The employees were friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend Fit or your Taco Tuesdays, Cinco de Mayo, and any other time you crave a deliriously different Taco

First time eating here, asked for potatoes on my breakfast taco… cashier should’ve told me it was going to be potato mush sauce instead of standard fried diced breakfast potatoes because i got a mush taco for $5.50 including a $2 slice of avocado. Not worth it, very disappointed.
Olivia L — Google review
Wow! These tacos were great! And the service here was amazing. We had a large team visit and they accommodated us and all our requests. I did a “make your own” taco for both of mine and I really enjoyed them. The egg and avocado tasted fresh, bacon was crispy, and pico delicious. Thank you! Everyone else echoed a similar sentiment in enjoying their tacos. Weather was also beautiful in the morning so we sat outside. They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. We stopped here for a quick bite to eat before heading to the airport. Our server Kathryn was very friendly and attentive. The food was good and plentiful. I actually ate from my Big Sucker Burrito 3 different times, and my friends took their quesadillas to go. The atmosphere was relaxed, the decor was busy, and the lighting was a little dark for my liking. However, overall, we were pleased with our visit and told who I'm guessing is the manager because he came over to ask how things were going. I'd definitely visit again.

The beans with the chips and salsa are not vegetarian. They have pork in them. Among the three dishes we ordered, the food was under seasoned and not flavorful at all. Otherwise great atmosphere.

First time in and our server Jesus was awesome!! He made our dining experience so great!! He was friendly, knowledgeable and kind. The spicy red enchiladas didn't disappoint!! The chicken and beef fajitas were great but the toppings were on the skimpy side. They need to be more generous with the toppings and they should come with sour cream as well. If you visit this location ask for Jesus' section he will take real good care of you!!

Celebrating my son’s birthday in Austin (coming from Dallas) and stopped by this gem, amazing Tex mex food. I ordered the chilaquiles CHEFS KISS!!! Our server (I don’t remember her name ): ) she was the best!! Very friendly. And the other servers sang happy birthday to my son. Only downside was that our car battery died BUT one of the managers helped us jump start our car. Not only is the food delicious, the staff is hands down outstanding!!! This used to be our fav. But they have certainly dropped off several notches. Last two visits the wait was horrible after being seated. 35 mins or more. They are not even apologetic. In the past they at least offered some street tacos or free ice cream if things got delayed. Not anymore I ordered their chicken entree which clearly states artichoke as a topping. After waiting 35 mins, there was no artichoke. The server was simply ready to take it back. The manager stepped in to add more insult by stating the dish is light on artichokes which are blended in!! Lies. I asked to sub rice and they offered grill veggies. What I got was RAW beans just literally only thawed. Even the other dishes were meh. No flavor in fish tacos. And so on. What a waste of money which was meant to be a celebration
Loy P — Google review
I'm never disappointed! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. We started with the chips and queso—super fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of kick. But the real star of the show was the fajitas. The beef fajitas are incredible. Very tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and everything comes out hot and fresh. The homemade tortillas are next-level good. Soft, warm, and made fresh to order. The portions are generous, so come hungry or be ready to take some home. Prices are fair for the quality and experience you're getting. All in all, Lupe Tortilla is a solid choice if you're craving Tex-Mex with bold flavors and great service. We’ll definitely be back!

Loved everything I ordered on the menu and special shout out to the tres leches cake which was outstanding. I especially loved their ceviche and tuna appetizers as well - very fresh and cirtrusy. Drinks were amazing - I had the melon frozen drink and would highly recommend. My friend had a non-alcoholic cocktail which was also excellent.

One of the best in Austin for sure. Better than Este! I recommend reservations, there was a line before they even opened. Parking is a bit tricky, super small lot but paid street parking available. The staff was friendly and cool. The vibe inside was dark and moody, lots of conversations. Their tequila selection was sooo impressive. I hate when you go to a place and ask for a fancy tequila and they are out of it. They were also SO quick with the drinks. Impressively fast, we were never left thirsty. The food was incredible. Loved the ceviche with the apple broth. The tuna hibiscus aqua chile was great too. Loved the frijoles de veneno AND OMG THE HOUSE MADE TORTILLAS. Also, you have to get the sweet papas (at the bottom of the menu). Amazing. Loved every bite. The desserts were impressive too. The seasonal scoop was actually our favorite bite, lavender. So gentle and smooth. The chocotaco is a MUST. Not like the one you ate as a kid! We stayed for over 2 hours, left stuffed and happy.

We thoroughly enjoyed our date night here. While the cocktails weren’t 100% to our liking, we truly enjoyed the rest of the menu. Our top choices were the skirt steak tacos and tres leches. Absolutely delicious! We will be back!

The place is beautiful, the service was great, and the food was absolutely delicious. I can truly say the ingredients taste authentically Mexican. I ordered a quesadilla since we arrived about 15 minutes before dinner time, and they kindly told me I could wait if I wanted to order from the dinner menu — but honestly, the quesadilla was amazing! My son had tacos and my husband ordered a tlayuda, and everything tasted fantastic. The only downside was that we had just arrived after almost a 4-hour road trip and were starving. The portions are more like appetizers, not full meals — perfect for snacking, but not enough if you’re really hungry. The prices are also on the higher side. I ordered a sope from the dinner menu (I imagined something about the size of a street taco), but when it arrived it was tiny — more like a bite-sized snack! We couldn’t help but laugh; it was delicious, but gone in one bite 😂. Overall, great flavors, wonderful service, and a lovely atmosphere — just keep in mind that the portions are small and prices are not cheap.

A lovely experience at a bucket list restaurant. Suerte is a must-eat, and it is a love letter to food. The location is lovely, and the decor is modern but you don’t feel ill at ease. The wait staff is stellar, and are truly superstars! My group was waited on by Emily, who was fantastic- but we met other faces too! They’re great at customer service, from friendly conversation to accommodating allergies. The experience was seamless. The food was better than I could have ever expected, especially the carnitas, and their lovely hibiscus drinks and dessert. Every dish was its own experience that I can remember distinctly, nothing blended together in my memory. Their tortillas live up to everything I read about them. Trust me, you’ve gotta get desserts- my best friend cried over the Tres Leches cake! For guests with sensory needs, Suerte can be a bit busy on the inside- I recommend outdoor seating for a quieter experience (I know, outdoors in a big city isn’t usually quiet, but it was for us!). The inside is lively and bustling. The price can vary! You can eat for around 30 dollars a head before tip, but the best experience for a group of four for us cost about ~59 dollars per person, tip included. Their family style dishes would probably feed two people if you only order one. We ended up getting three, with sopes. Thank you Suerte team!!!

Quite possibly some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Let me start with the chips and salsa: the green sauce has a creamy consistency to it but is actually spicy. The red sauce is less spicy but similar consistency with a strong smoky flavor to it. It was so good, I used it with my mains as well and devoured all the sauce. Now let me get to the conchita pibil I got. The corn tortillas were super soft and warm, and served to you inside aluminum wrap to keep it warm. It comes with guacamole and pickled onions that appear house made - nothing out of a jar or can here. The stewed pork was fantastic and extremely flavorful and tender. All the individual ingredients in this dish are thoughtfully curated and made in house. By far the best Mexican I’ve had so far in Austin and highly recommend it. Shout-out to Juan, the bartender also!

Loved this place! Food and atmosphere were amazing. Lots of gluten free and meatless options that are clearly marked on the menu. I was so excited to see this isn’t traditional Austin Tex-Mex…this is the real deal. Will definitely be back!

Great food. Drinks were ok. Love the vibe, but it was extremely hot and humid(even for Austin).

Absolutely knocked my socks off. We sat outside and the atmosphere was great, our 2 year old was entertained by the decor and lights so we actually got a decent meal. The food was AMAZING and out waiter Jose was always there when we needed him but not pushy. Cocktails were top notch. Cant recommend enough.

For 2-4 people, this place is an absolutely incredible time! Prices are good for the food, I didn't look around the alcohol menu much. I'd imagine it is not as great the more amount of people in your group because there are lots of smaller tables. Food was incredible Music is on the louder side, I'm not complaining, and I wouldn't bring my grandma there. Staff came in clutch on last second things we wanted, you gotta wave em down, but their response time was rapid, so it was worth it to have to be slightly assertive for the uninterrupted conversations. -QR Code menus, and upon request, physical menus -One of the women who was working called it "Mexican Soul Food" when I asked her what best describes the food they serve. I totally agree

From a humble but cute outside appearance to a burst of originality and creativity on the inside. We first started with the complimentary salsa that consisted of a green (avocado and jalapeno) and an orange (roasted chili). Not overly spicy with a kick on the backside. The Fundido was a rich thick cheese with a lovely caramelized bottom. The tortillas were so fresh with a great corn flavor and tender texture. The star of the dinner was the scallops served with an olive and caper sauce. The bread served with it was a fabulous vehicle for the sumptuous sauce. The scallops were tender and cooked perfectly. The TresLeches was good, but not the best weve ever had. We will definitely go back and might plan a Chistmas Holiday party there due to the chillled laid back atmosphere. The little patio is so cute!!

Mi Madre's Restaurant is a beloved Tex-Mex eatery in Austin, serving up fresh, housemade food since 1990. What began as a small taco joint has expanded into a spacious dining area and patio, welcoming locals and visitors alike. The menu features popular breakfast tacos, including the #9 with homemade machacado and eggs, as well as the #4 with black bean, egg, and cheese.
We celebrated National Margarita Day here which was an excellent decision. Margarita flights say whaaaaat yes I will have one! And guess what, they were delicious! These were like 3 incredible and unique margaritas - we had watermelon, spicy cucumber and sangria. The sangria was a frozen with a cinnamon swirl. They were simply delightful. Their skinny margaritas were also good. Food was also consumed, thank goodness. Their veggie burrito and cheese enchilada were very tasty. I loved their big bubbly chips and salsa with guacamole. Our server was very entertaining and was always checking on us. We had a great time here and will definitely be back.

This is our go to restaurant for Mexican food when we are in Austin. The food, service, and atmosphere are always top notch!! The food is always delicious! Love brunch! Their chips & salsa are so good. Different from other Mexican restaurants. Love huevo rancheros which comes with carne guisada meat. So good and tender, best flavor. Love over easy eggs. Their flour tortillas are delicious too!! My husband had a yummy breakfast taco with eggs, bacon, cheese, and potatoes. So good. Their top shelf margaritas are delicious, on the rocks or frozen with floater on top!! The service is excellent, our server Faith, always takes the best care of us!! Love Donald too! Best GM! He always stops to chat with us. We always come back!! 😊😊

Great chicken burrito. Excellent service wonderful chips and salsa (was a little spicy) clean restroom & altogether wonderful!!

I visited Mi Madres in Austin after hearing a lot of hype about their breakfast burrito, but I was underwhelmed. The burrito tasted like something I could whip up at home—nothing special. What really threw me off, though, was the horchata. It tasted like a virgin piña colada, which totally missed the mark for what horchata is supposed to be. And then we noticed the menu listed the burrito at $13, but we were charged $14.50. Not a huge deal, but just added to the disappointment. With so many great spots in Austin, this one didn’t live up to the buzz for us.

Green sauce? Yes, please!! Had such a great experience here. They have indoor, patio and outdoor seating available (with a dog patio, of course) We came here for the breakfast tacos, which they have a great selection of and we were pleased with our selections. Had us a nice cup of Joe, too. You do have to pay for the chips and salsa, but we were okay with that. The chips come with a red sauce but be sure to ask for the green sauce! Gotta have green sauce with breakfast tacos or you’re just plain crazy. Overall great vibes and great food, give it a try.

There's something special here. The server helped us narrow down our choices, making superb recommendations. Everything was divine, but especially the spiced coffee. I was offered coffee to go after we paid, the sure way to win me over. Thanks for such a stunning breakfast experience!

A lovely local spot nestled in East Austin. Plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating depending on your preference. Prices are about average and the portions are appropriate. I'm not sure when they started charging for the chips and salsa but that's a little disappointing. Still worth it.

It was just okay.. I visited a different location years ago and that was good.. unfortunately, this time around at this location was not good.. Food is always great, we typically eat here a few times per month. We appreciate that the to-go orders are always accurate and the quality is consistent. Great employees make the experience smooth. Very happy that management listened to our concerns over a recent policy change and were able to accommodate their repeat customers.

The food was pretty good and they have a few quality veggie items on their menu. It is an alright location for vegans. The food was pretty tasty for the most part but the guac is a bit bland. The patio is nice and for being on south lamar is is not overly distracting. The service was quick and friendly.

Tyson's Tacos is a laid-back stand with a funky covered patio that offers a variety of creative tacos. The vibe at Tyson's Tacos exudes the old Austin charm, with mismatched furniture and recycle/reuse-chic decor. The menu features tacos with unusual names inspired by regular customers, such as the Wild Feminist.
This spot is great because we came at 3 AM. For it being open so late you cannot complain and the food was good. The taco selection that they have is very vast and it makes you want to come back and try more than a while. Will you make friends with those people, right
Jared D — Google review
It's frustrating, and frankly, EMBARRASSING that in a state like Texas, known for its deep ties to Mexican and Tex-Mex culinary traditions, that THIS is the taco spot that garners such popularity in Austin. Tyson's Tacos has become a go-to name, yet what it consistently delivers is lukewarm, dry and uninspired food that would never survive in California, where taco culture thrives in authenticity, flavor, and pride. We are Texas! Tacos should be our thing! But somehow, California is running laps around us, with high-quality, street-style tacos on nearly every corner. The fact that an establishment like this is considered a staple here feels like a slap in the face to our cultural potential. Ain't nobody gonna say nuthin!?!?!!! What's worse is that this isn't just a one-off bad experience. The meat is consistently dry. The food is CONSISTENTLY served lukewarm...borderline room temperature...and that alone should raise food safety questions. But beyond temperature, where is the care? The seasoning? The soul? I had some duck tacos so dry that I almost choked swallowing them. What is going on? It's clear the management has chosen this low standard. That's what stings the most. You have the opportunity to represent Austin proudly with something exceptional, but instead, you double down on mediocrity and convenience, pushing out subpar food to customers who deserve better. The long lines don't validate the quality. But they do enable the mediocrity to continue. Y'all...Even BASIC Tex-Mex joints outshine Tyson's in flavor, authenticity, and execution. This place could be so much more...but it clearly doesn't want to be. That's the real shame.
Valerie — Google review
Welp a place that let's me build my own nachos! I'm not a fan of their beef so I substituted bacon instead and extra queso. I love nachos but find it challenging to locate a place that still makes them with melted cheese (queso). I've seen some other reviews and yes Tysons does not heavily season their food. There are items that I enjoy here like their chips and queso, build your own nachos and B is for Bacon taco. If you do nachos either order online so you can be specific on what you want on there or clearly communicate this when you order there since their nachos come with certain items like lettuce, pico and guacamole. Tysons is one of the few establishments that are still 24/7 and they have decent options. They provide quality customer service and reasonably quick service.
Quincy U — Google review
I’m only give 2 stars because the nachos were a good amount of food for the price (7.99) . But the flavor of the beans were tasteless. And the brisket was the worst i’ve ever had, also about 2/3 of the brisket was all fat. I don’t know if it was because the time i was there, it seemed that they gave me the leftovers or the bottom of the pan.

Today’s selection included a tacoless taco, for my grandson..lol I ordered the birra tacos that were tasty but it would have been better freshly made. The Al Pastor taco was perfect! We had a good time with the kids here. We let the kids 12 11 and 10 just run around together with the wrist band with the buffets and they just stopped and ate pizza while they played all day lunch and dinner. Me and the wife played pool at Revl club and had a few drinks. wrapped it all up at the arcade and got some prizes. all in all highly recommend, spend a whole day for a family of 5 for less than $500, you can't beat it.

We visited for my son’s 10th birthday, and I’ll be honest—I was expecting something small and simple. I hesitated a bit when I saw the price for the combo tickets (it was a little more than I expected), but once we went through the entire experience, I realized it was worth every single penny. We spent nearly 3 hours here and honestly wished we could’ve stayed longer. Unfortunately, we had to head back to Houston, but someone could easily spend 5–6 hours here enjoying everything they have to offer. The fact that they have a buffet on-site was a major plus—it made the experience even more convenient and worthwhile. From start to finish, the staff was friendly, the attractions were well-maintained, and the whole place was clean and thoughtfully laid out. My son had a blast, and seeing his excitement made it all more than worth it. Highly recommend if you're looking for something fun and engaging for the whole family while in Austin!

Definitely worth the money you spend here. Whole day fun for the whole family. They have a lot of things here which i didn’t expect. Go carts, wall climbing, 7d shooting game, mini golf, rides for kids, bowling, a lot of arcade. This is a great place for whole family including little kids.

This review is long overdue - We've been coming to Austin's since 2021 (we're from DFW)...everything here is amazing. There is literally entertainment for the entire family. Bowling, Go Karts, Indoor Rollercoaster, Putt-Putt courses (indoor and outdoor), laser tag, and video games! For adults, there are pool-tables and small lounge areas...for families, large buffet style restaurant. This place is great for a corporate event / birthday party - we wish these guys were in DFW area, but we don't mind traveling for a few hours to come hang out here!

Nice place with lots of seating options. Parking is a bit tricky but you get validations on the parking. The margaritas were nice and pretty stiff, for my liking. The pastor tacos under seasoned for me however they were very well cooked and the tortillas were fresh. The queso fundido was spot on and the chorizo absolutely delicious. The Tortillas were fresh, soft and delicious. I liked the dining experience and I would come again try out their other dishes.

The absolute worst food I've ever had on S Lamar 😫 also $10 to park in a restaurant parking lot is mind boggling. The staff was super friendly. Edit: was not enjoying the buffet options, only trying to find what could like. Not one option was tasty.

Excellent food here, and great service. The parking was a little weird but you just need to go inside and sign in before you pay. It’s actually free parking for El Meson customers. Papalote Taco House is an unpretentious taqueria that offers a variety of Mexican eats, including tortas, tacos, and tostadas. The menu features a mix of traditional Texas tacos and unique options inspired by South Mexican heritage. With a focus on authentic flavors, the restaurant offers build-your-own tacos with a wide selection of meats, veggies, and extras. While the tacos may not be traditional Mexican style, they are described as delicious and accompanied by flavorful salsa.
These tacos are some of the best I’ve ever had! We tried Alambre, turkey & pork mole, pastor, mushroom, and fried avocado tacos. The mushroom taco was even better with their salsa verde. The horchata was also perfect. No doubt about it—this is our go-to taco spot in Austin now!

Amazing food. Staff is friendly and food comes out fast. Order at the counter and find a seat. Don’t forget the sauces in the fridge up front. The green one is to die for. Great find and I go as often as I can for breakfast!

Pretty boring breakfast tacos if I’m being honest. The eggs were good, but the sausage was just some sliced up wanna be jimmy dean breakfast links that I could have had at my hotels crappy continental breakfast. They didn’t even look grilled- steamed maybe? Unappetizing. The tortillas were generic. These tacos are on par with taco deli. I will come back for lunch and try some other menu options. Portion size is small for the price, but what I expect from Austin.
Lee L — Google review
This has been one of my favorite go-to spots for tacos for years. I love the two different mole tacos and the fried avocado taco best. I really like their vegetarian tacos as well. They have a new taco bowl on the menu that I tried tonight and it was excellent. We tried the esquites, which were tasty but pretty spicy, and the churros, which were delicious. This is a small, casual spot that I love stopping by for a quick meal. It is very cute inside though. Right now there's an ofrenda up.
Shannon B — Google review
Visited after seeing all the good reviews but had a pretty disappointing experience. Almost all of the menu has meat with no option of substitution. All menu items are either take it as is or leave it. Didn’t see any vegetarian options at all after scouring the menu for 15 mins and you can’t make changes to any dishes. Server was visibly annoyed when we asked if substitutions can be done. Prices are decent. Atmosphere is nothing worth mentioning, taco food trucks have more crowd on weekends than this place. Parking can be tricky and gets full pretty quickly. Additional shared parking available in the back.

Haven’t been here for a couple years but still killer. Just a bacon egg cheese today and the pastor is yummy too. The green and red salsas are some of the best I’ve ever had. Friendly staff. Go!

Papalote is a great little place for interior style Mexican food with a variety of street style tacos. The dining area was recently remodeled and expanded, with a fresh clean design and more tables. I had the Alambres grilled steak tacos on this visit, which were very tasty. They have a green and red sauce both good, however I preferred the green sauce. After three of the small street style tacos the lingering flavors left me wanting more, but there was no room left in the stomach! Two tacos will most likely be plenty to satiate your hunger. I should also mention they have decent breakfast tacos. I recommend giving this place a shot next time you are in the South Lamar area - a great quick stop for that late weekend brunch too.

Love this place!! It’s my go to place for chilaquiles.. El Chilito is a laid-back Austin spot that’s all about serving up delicious, fresh tacos with a great vibe. The menu features a variety of tacos, from classic favorites like al pastor to creative options that mix things up a bit. Every taco is made with soft, fresh tortillas and generous fillings that really hit the spot. Their fish taco and breakfast burritos are also fan favorites, offering something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a more hearty meal. What sets El Chilito apart is the salsa bar, where you can add as much heat and flavor as you want to your tacos. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a casual meal with friends or just grab something tasty on the go. Had a great meal at El Chilito — I started with their Chipotle Queso with chorizo (rich, creamy, slightly smoky) and then went for a Cochinita Pibil taco along with a Barbacoa burrito. The tacos had the right amount of savory punch, and the burrito was packed and perfectly wrapped. The vibe is casual and friendly, and service was prompt even during a busy evening. I also appreciated their scratch-made tortillas and how the salsa was lively but not overpowering. Definitely coming back for their Puffy tacos and to try more of their breakfast selections.

Love their salads and street tacos! This place is now my go to stop before hitting traffic after a long work day! Make sure you stop by from 4-6pm on weekdays if you can, the happy hour prices are legit!

Went back to El Chilito recently and it’s still got that perfect Tex-Mex charm. Their Cochinita Pibil Tacos were juicy and well seasoned, and the Barbacoa Burrito was hearty without being overstuffed. The chips & salsa (especially the spicy green one) were solid starters as always. The vibe is casual and comforting — quick service even on a busy night, friendly staff, and just a good place to jump into flavorful, no-frills Mexican food. Definitely one of those spots I’ll keep coming back to.

We were in the area and decided to give it a try and were not disappointed! First, we loved their salsa on the tomato-y side of salsa but excellent flavor! Phil ordered the green chili pork & while it was on the spicy side, the green sauce turned out to be rich and savory with undertones of oregano. I tried the #3 combo, which was huge and included a solidly good juicy crispy taco, two enchiladas and a tamale--massive with beans and rice. The Rice and beans passed muster but the enchiladas stole the show! And we loved the tamale. It took some time to receive our food, but the staff was kind and the owners seem proud of their little joint. It was worth the wait. We topped the meal off with a shared slice of flan (served wedged like pie or cake) which was also very good and large enough to share. Overall we give this genuine Tex Mex establishment a solid five stars.

A humble little spot next to I35 with a lot to offer. Parking can be a bit tricky, but I managed to find a spot without too much trouble. The food was excellent—everything was fresh and flavorful. The staff stood out for their friendliness and consistently polite service. The breakfast tacos were generously sized and satisfying. I tried the menudo con patas, and honestly, it's the best I’ve had in the Austin area. Rich, authentic, and perfectly seasoned. If you're a fan of delicious, traditional Mexican food, this place is definitely worth a visit.

I ordered two chicken tacos and they were $6.50 each for this. I asked for no bell pepper and onions but they didn't put lettuce, tomato and cheese. $6 a taco is too high my opinion.

I recommend using fresh vegetables since everything was overcooked or old soup, the meat had a bad flavor just like the damaged lemon, paying $20 for this broth compared to the quality of the product is nothing like it. Juzgue usted la foto, no estoy exagerando. El arroz sin sabor y hecho masa.

Had bean and cheese and bacon and chorizo and egg taco. Beans tasted canned, tortillas are mission tortillas from HEB. Chips are from a bag. Not really bad just definitely not authentic..and way overpriced. Will be a skip next time in the area. Nice staff and service.

Austin local and Mexican citizen here, I came in strictly for the barbacoa (gordita) and while it was an 8/10 (Gordita was bland but the table salt and salsa made up for it, I added a generous amount of salsa every bite) the whole experience could’ve been better. Dirty menus and no chips for the pricy lunch plates was disappointing. We ate as fast as we could since it was a bit slow and boring inside. If you’re a family of 10+, the space will accommodate you but most plates were around $14. My Italian American fiancé got 2 chorizo bean cheese tacos on flour and while he enjoyed them, the tortillas wouldn’t pass my quality test. I won’t be coming back to dine in but would consider them to order over the phone and pick up barbacoa tacos or order the pound of barbacoa when in a rush. It was perfectly proportioned with low amounts of fat

Nestled in the charming Rosedale neighborhood, La Cocina de Consuelo offers a delightful escape into the heart of home-cooked Mexican cuisine. This cozy BYO eatery is a family-run gem that feels like stepping into someone's kitchen, where every dish is crafted with love and tradition. The menu shines during breakfast hours, featuring comforting classics such as machacado and eggs, barbacoa, and huevos rancheros—all accompanied by fluffy house-made flour tortillas that elevate each meal to new heights.
The cheese enchiladas are the perfect kind of cheesy. Perfectly melted and mild and almost melts in your mouth. Add a bit of salsa on for that perfect kick. The potato enchiladas are also very good with the chipotle sauce although I wish it had just a little more sauce. The restaurant is very charming like eating at your abuela's casa. No frills just smiles. They don't serve alcohol here so be ready to drink Mexican coke! Update: they are BYOB so the coke is going to be replaced by a six pack!

I visited Consuelo's because I love checking out small Mom and Pop restaurants that have been a part of local Austin history. Their place is super clean and well maintained. The experience starts from the moment you pull into their parking lot. They have parking in the back, but I liked pulling in literally right off Lamar Blvd by the front door. When you walk into the dining room, it screams adorably authentic. I was greeted by a very friendly lady who took my order and allowed me to practice speaking Spanish. The food came out right away. I recommend their huevos rancheros. I loved the delicious ranchero sauce so much I got extra. It isn't overly spice or salty. They let you serve yourself coffee from a big thermos. They constantly check it to make sure it is full. I also enjoy being able to grab my own mug off the shelf above the coffee dispenser. It just feels homey! And best of all was that they steamed my milk to add to my coffee. The coffee tasted a 9/10 on the flavor. Corn tortillas tasted home made. Fun time!

Sweet little Mexican restaurant - we had the chicken mole and the tacos al pastor, both were excellent. The corn tortillas were thick, warm, and handmade. Black beans were nice, and we tried an unfamiliar side - fideo, which was like a mexican spiced spaghetti soup. Tasty, but not easy to eat with either a fork or a spoon.

Homemade hole in the wall spot with great flavors, counter service, and a clean simple interior. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros with homemade flour tortilla and added bacon. All the items on the plate were great except the potatoes which were French fries cooked in a basic way. Service was mostly self serve (coffee) and you pay when you order. I plan to stop by again to try some of the lunch specials. Breakfast and lunch only.

It’s a nice small restaurant. The front part is for a few parties of 2/3 people. The back/side seats two tables of 6 each max. The back small patio seats two. The food was great, it reminds me of Mexican/Mexico home cooking! My only complaint would be the chips served with the salsa. The chips were not good at all I did not care for them, they tasted almost stale. The service was excellent our server was very nice & attentive, she had black framed glasses a younger woman (didn’t catch her name). My kids ate all their food which is surprising because they are very picky about their food if it doesn’t taste good they won’t eat it. Overall when in town we would come back.

The sopa de fideo, (Vermicelli Soup) is comforting, light and GOOD. Never had fideos like this before and I love stopping at Consuelo's Kitchen for this comfort bowl of fideos. Not heavy. Just right.

I picked up a breakfast burrito when I had a case of the Sunday morning heavies. I am from San Diego sorry so I can’t comment on size (still is fine with the price being in lower end), but this thing was the real deal. Props to the team over there, and though I was take out the dining room was a vibe. The food was fast, fresh and delicious. The guy even complimented my Texas trans rights shirt so 6/5 if possible

Rosita's Al Pastor is a well-established food truck located on the east side of Austin, offering traditional Mexican al pastor tacos that have been a local favorite for over thirty years. The pork used in their tacos is marinated overnight using a secret family recipe and then cooked trompo-style to perfection, resulting in tender and flavorful meat. Tacos are served simply with onions and fresh cilantro on handmade flour tortillas, but can be enhanced with a squeeze of lime.
Love the breakfast tacos here. Once a week after doing a 9 mile loop around lady bird lake, I stop at Rosita’s for breakfast tacos and they have not disappointed yet. Both their red and green salsas are creamy which I’m not a big fan of but they’re good.

The food was amazing, we’re from SATX and this definitely reminded me of the tacos we have back home. The people were nice and everything is reasonably priced, the lengua and al pastor were amazing. They have ice cold beer, Jarritos, and sweets. Salsa was good too! We relaxed on their swinging benches afterwards.

Yes. That’s the answer if you’re contemplating this place for good food in the downtown area. Come for the epic Tex Mex. Stay for the street art outside. Menu-wise, they have something for everyone if you eat human food. They even have pancakes, but you have to ask. (Secret menu option, see pics) Staff was friendly and helpful before and after the meal. Price is amazing for what you get. Salsa were on point: red and green, don’t sleep on them. If you’re dieting or into fitness, THIS is your cheat day. It’s that good. 😋 Only criticism: the main menu needs work up front. No info on what’s in the tacos. Makes it hard to decide without asking for assistance. Still…no regrets today. 😎 Can’t wait to return.

I love this place! We went to eat after going out downtown, so it was already late when we arrived. The food truck located outside the establishment was open, and there was a long line. We decided to stay, even though there was a long line, but they were so fast in serving everybody, it didn’t feel like we waited at all. The tacos were crazy, but they were so so good. After we finished eating, what we had ordered, we sit in line again to order some more, that’s how good it was. Highly recommend this spot, especially after a long night out!

Taco Joint is a popular spot in Austin known for its affordable and delicious breakfast tacos. The menu features a variety of options including chorizo & egg, bacon & egg, ham & egg, bean & cheese, and potato & cheese tacos all priced at $3 each.
Taco Joint has incredible tacos. The tacos are bursting with rich flavors. Ordering was very straightforward - with lots of different options. The food was ready fast and there was plenty of seating! Definitely would go here again!

Really great tacos! Large quantities and they offer a variety of flavors. We waited less than 10 min to get our food which considering how packed they were was good. Great place to eat outside on the patio if the weather is nice. Con- parking. We had to around the parking lot several times in hopes someone was pulling out and luckily someone did before we almost gave up and went somewhere else.

I absolutely love Taco Joint and consider it a staple in my taco rotation. Their breakfast tacos are some of the best in town—packed with flavor, always fresh, and made just the way I like them. The potatoes, in particular, deserve a special mention; they’re perfectly seasoned and have just the right amount of crisp, making every bite memorable. Trust me on the potato, bean and cheese taco. Another must-try is the street taco. No matter when I visit, I can’t resist ordering one, and it never disappoints. It’s the perfect blend of authentic flavor and quality ingredients, which is something Taco Joint consistently gets right. I first discovered Taco Joint at their campus location and was instantly hooked. Now that I frequent the Riverside spot, I can confidently say both locations are equally excellent. The service is friendly and quick, the food always hits the spot, and the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming, whether I’m dining in or grabbing something to go. Taco Joint has really set the bar for what great tacos should be. With their unbeatable breakfast tacos, legendary variety, and top-notch consistency , there’s simply no better place for a satisfying, delicious meal any time of day. I have been going for 8 years!

I waited too long to try Taco Joint!! Definitely one of Austin’s best taco joints. Tried the Street Taco & Seared Fish Taco - both amazing and stuffed with deliciousness. The prices are great, the staff are the best. Seating inside and out makes it the perfect place to stop in for breakfast or lunch. 5 star all the way! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

The tacos had a good flavor, but they are very small to say the least. The pictures posted on the Google profile look big enough to fill their serving trays. But that is not the case for a takeout order. Not sure if I would come back, but if I do I will have to try dine in. I will also share my experience then. Your humble day to day guy.

I’m saying this with my full chest, Taco Joint is without a doubt the best breakfast taco spot in Austin. For starters, they have an almost unfathomable amount of options! They have multiple vegan/vegetarian options and are more than willing to swap any protein for one of the three plant based options. Also sooooo many bevvie options, try mixing horchata and thier house made cold brew! Every single taco I have had from Taco Joint has been SO delicious. My absolute favorite has to be the migas though, soooo well balanced and flavorful. The staff is incredibly friendly, and on most weekdays the wait is almost nonexistent! Absolutely a can’t miss, and right next to Town Lake Trail for a post breakfast walk:)

Loved this place! Drove by and had to turn around to go in. Got 3 tacos and they filled me up, very generous with meat and cheese! I'll definitely stop by this place again next time I am in Austin !!
Mike E — Google review
A very unassuming taco place. Taco Joint is a fitting name. I would describe the place as well-worn. When sitting outside in the AM sit away from the downspouts that may drip on you. That out of the way, the food was great! The tacos as the perfect size and the quesadilla was enough to fill both my kids. I really liked the 420 and the habanero salsa was perfect. Really spicy, but not so hot you would only eat it on a dare. The mole and cabbage taco was also good, but I like my mole more smokey than sweet. This was a touch sweet for me, but still good. If I lived in Austin I would make this a regular stop. At least now I know where to get bfast next year before ACL!

Polvo's Downtown Central is a funky Mexican spot known for its frozen margaritas, serve-yourself salsa bar, and Tex-Mex dishes. The restaurant offers a variety of margaritas including traditional lime, raspberry, coconut, and mango flavors. It is popular among friend groups who gather for fajitas and pitchers of frozen margaritas.
Veggie fajitas are giant and so delicious. The platter is huge and the flavors were fantastic - we had mushrooms and cabbage and zucchini and all sorts of things that went beautifully in a taco with some salsa. Yay! Their salsa bar is also a winner- there are many options and for a flat and affordable price you can serve yourself. I think that's fantastic. Margaritas are also good.

For me it was amazing: Great food, specially the fajitas, oh and tge queso as an appetizer, a great atmosphere at the bar with great chips and two hot sauces (red, green). A very noce taco bar with all types of sauces and stuff for whatever Mexican you ordered. Each bowl of salsa for $4 a piece. Don't get too late or the place will be totally crowded.

Nice version of the original on south first. Authentic Mexican, great tacos. A little pricey, but not terrible. Other comments talk about the music volume. I think it was at 7pm they literally turned down the lights and upped the music volume. We went from restaurant to club in 30 seconds.

The food is fresh with massive portions!!! So glad I shared a plate! Service was outstanding and atmosphere was awesome for a nice Saturday lunch. They easily served our group of 25. We had chips salsas and bean tostado plate to start then came the massive plates of food that was delicious. It was easy to hold a conversation, the acoustics were great…something I think is important when you are a big group.

Customer service was amazing for the size had was 15-20 people. Isabella or Isabel was amazing with customer service and accommodations for my disabled family members. The food was delicious and presentation was wonderful. It was cool with a variety of Salsas. The atmosphere was good but it felt like a club at times with the music loud and it was at times difficult to speak to each other. Overall, they were amazing with food, service, and accommodations. I would recommend this location but be sure to setup a reservation so you won’t have to wait.

Polvo's has been serving solid Mexican food in Austin since the late 1990s at their S 1st location and I've been going since they opened. Yet when I happen to be here in this downtown area and in need of food, I can't go wrong at this location. It has the same amazing salsa bar and fantastic house-made flour and corn tortillas -- which is the main reason we visit. This morning, just after the Thanksgiving holiday, we stopped in after shopping around the downtown area and had some ceviche and their amazing sauces and tortillas. The plus is they have both good indoor seating as well as outdoor seating that is lovely when the weather is nice. Service was kind as always and top-notch. Regular's tip: the street tacos are authentic perfection!

Con Madre Cocina (Oltorf) is a vibrant food truck located in South Austin, offering a diverse menu of breakfast and lunch options including tacos, burritos, and queso. The family-owned establishment infuses each dish with special spices for an authentic flavor. Operating from early morning to late afternoon on most days, the kitchen has extended its hours to cater to more customers. Guests can enjoy their meals at the covered patio seating area while sipping on refreshing agua frescas.
We arrived with friends and were blown away by the humongous breakfast burrito. I had bacon, egg, cheese, beans, potatoes, and chorizo. It was freaking delicious. Now I have my breakfast go to when visiting. I can only imagine how lunch tastes.
Richard C — Google review
*EDIT* Business replied blaming rising food costs over past 6 months, yet you can find similar reviews that are 1 yr+ old. (See last picture) Also, hardly an excuse to charge $3 for a grand total of 12 bacon bits crumbles between 3 tacos (yes, we counted). The only thing worse than bad food and service is horrible excuses from management for it Can't speak on in person experiences, but my experience from DoorDash ensures I'll never find out. Paid extra for EXTRA bacon in breakfast tacos and received literally a few tiny crumbs (see pictures). That amount isn't sufficient enough for a regular amount let alone paying for EXTRA. Aside from that, tortilla was hard, tacos were greasy, and I hate the taste of chorizo, ordered no chorizo, yet the potatoes taste like chorizo. Will avoid in the future. I hate wasting food but can't force myself to eat the other 2.
Matt R — Google review
The location of the food truck is actually very convenient since there’s a lot of seating. The tacos were great. I got three of them. Very good flavors overall very juicy only issue that I had was They were a little too salty. The chips and salsa were amazing because the salsa that it came with was spectacular super savory Pretty large tacos overall as well, but the prices are a little bit steep and high, but I would definitely come back again.
Akira K — Google review
Would not recommend for takeout/ door dash. Prices don't add up - door dash is $14 breakfast burrito, $16 lunch burrito (not prices they charge in person). Burger was delivered freezing cold, bread was complete soggy like it was refrigerated overnight. Bun and patty/cheese completely burned. It was honestly very gross and had to toss. :/ Tacos were also freezing and meat had solid chunks of fat since all the oil was cold/solid.
Maria K — Google review
Really great tacos. Not the biggest in size tortilla but they are packed full! Loved how toasty the tortilla was, and the chorizo was super flavorful. I got only breakfast tacos, chorizo & egg and potato & egg both were great. The green salsa is flavorful and spicy and the red was just super flavorful. I would definitely come again.
Larissa O — Google review
I feel scammed, this place is overpriced, you don’t get what you ordered, and the food is mediocre or just plain bad. My tacos callejeros (translates to street tacos) were stated as coming with queso fresco and avocado. Don’t believe the review that shows the tacos dressed up this way. One of my tacos didn’t even have any queso fresco and the other had only tiny bits of it. And they had guacamole on them instead of avocado. Their “home fried chips” are store bought baked chips which aren’t even fried and were stale. And the queso tastes worse than Velveeta and isn’t Mexican in any sense of the word. To top it off, they were very stingy with salsa. Couldn’t even bother to fill up the tiny one oz cup. This place is trashy. Not worth the price whatsoever. I want a refund.
Stephanie C — Google review
Staff was nice, Google Maps takes me a little offs ways but its at the corner of the gas station. Chilaquiles Taco: soft corn chips, egg, a la mex, queso fresco was a fun taco, you can add meat to if if you want. I recommend this one! I also got a bacon and a chorizo egg and cheese taco and the bacon was crispy, chorizo was not too greasy. Its all well balanced. Not a must come back for me since I personally want something a little greasyer but with its name, Con Madre, its a great place! All the tacos were fresh and came out hot! Salsa was not spicy enough for me but that can be a plus if you want clean tacos and mild salsa, a jump from fuzzys.

Curra's Hyde Park is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine and refreshing drinks. Known for its signature Avocado Margarita, this vibrant spot offers a delightful array of cocktails, including the Mex-Martini and Skinny Rita. Guests rave about the quality of their tortilla chips—far from the usual bland options—and appreciate the top-shelf margaritas that truly showcase premium tequila without overwhelming sweetness.
We just came here for some day drinking. They have an impressive selection of tequilas. The chips they gave us to munch on were high quality as well. Not those crusty cardboard flavored tortilla chips that some restaurants use. We got top shelf margaritas which were so pleasant. Not sweet at all, just clean and simple and highlighting the tequila we paid for. You must try the avocado blended drink they do as well. So interesting and unique. Can’t wait to come back here and try the food. The bartender with the purple hair was so adorable and such a fun time I kinda wanted to bring her home 😜

We came to Curra's from a family recommendation during our San Antonio-Austin trip. It was the Monday after Grand Prix weekend, so every BBQ place in Austin had a crazy long wait. At Curra's, which is close to the trendy South Congress neighborhood, we were seated immediately for lunch. Our server was fast and friendly, and she made good suggestions to us as first-timers. We ordered the patos en mole tacos and the cochinita pibil. They were so flavorful and wow, were they spicy. As Californians who eat a lot of Mexican food, we were not prepared for the hear. But it was super delicious. The spice might be a bit much for some folks, but we enjoyed it. Rice/bean/plantains definitely help. All in all, a super flavorful meal!

Really nice spot and it’s located a little out of the city, so the parking is free. As long as you can find it on the street. Drinks You can get margarita flights, but if you don’t like tequila, they also do really good Vodka drinks. Planning We showed up with a large party, but accidentally half our party didn’t come for 30 minutes and they didn’t say anything. They were really nice about it. I highly recommend reservations. You can do it online. Food Their queso was really good. And their overall meal options were great. Environment It is pretty loud because it is more of a robust place, but as long as you go in there knowing that you’ll be OK. I don’t recommend it for anyone with families with people that get overstimulated. Warning, the pepper on the drink below is habanero…. I didn’t know that, ate it whole, and almost passed out 😭😂.

This food is amazing, a true hidden gem in Austin! Everyone needs to try this place. It was my first time tasting pozole, and it was absolutely incredible—a flavor like no other. The crunch wrap was also out of this world, so flavorful and satisfying. And don’t even get me started on the burger—it completely blew me away! I couldn’t stop eating. Plus, the service was outstanding. Definitely a must-visit spot!

I used to live in San Diego and now live on the east coast but come to Austin frequently. Whenever I’m here, I’m always craving good corn tortilla-style tacos but rarely find a spot that hits as well as my staples in San Diego. This place is it. Excellent Birria that’s moist but has been simmering long enough to retain succulent flavor. Grilled shrimp tacos that’ll make you believe you’re on the coast. The green salsa is spicy and pairs nicely. Price was solid. I’ll be back!

Taco Pegaso is tucked away in the downtown Austin Fairgrounds—aka the underground strip mall where your lunch dreams go to live their best lives. I walked in craving Mexican food like a hungover college kid craves a breakfast taco at 11:58 a.m. on a Sunday. I’m talkin’ full-body need. Like, if someone had even whispered the word “queso” in my direction, I would’ve cried. I grabbed the chicken tacos, and they delivered. Juicy, flavorful, just the right amount of spice to make your upper lip sweat a little but still keep your dignity. The service? Quick, easy, no drama. They handed me tacos like they were doing the Lord’s work, and honestly, maybe they were. I’m already plotting my return like a villain in a telenovela. Next time I’m throwing down on the rest of the menu like it owes me money. 4/5 would pegaso again.

Great breakfast tacos. I think they close at about 11 or 12? My bf and I got the specials - chorizo jack and NY Texan (BEC). The line does move a little slow bc the same girl who takes the orders also packages up the tacos and calls out the order so because of that, when she is packing up orders, there’s a lull with the food coming out.

If you want your fast food actually tasty and fresh, this is a great choice. It's down in the Fairgrounds Food Hall so a bit hidden but right at the river on Congress. There are many flavor choices and nationalities but in Texas, we chose quesadillas and an enpanada. It was a bit slow but fresh. They are small but delicious. You can't go wrong. Perfect for a snack or lunch.

Could not have asked for a better meal. When I tell you the Chorizo/Beef burger was a top 5 burger I’ve ever had… I mean it. The beans and rice were phenomenal. Will definitely be coming back next time I’m in Austin, and if you’re local… make this your to Go-To spot ASAP!!!

This spot is definitely a hidden gem in Austin! I tried the burger, and it’s now one of my favorites in the city. But what truly blew me away was the Pozole — incredibly delicious with perfectly balanced flavors and a subtle spicy kick. They also have fantastic tacos. Highly recommend checking this place out!
