We had an amazing time at this museum with our 7-year-old daughter! She's at an age where she's starting to appreciate art, and this was the perfect introduction. The exhibits were truly interesting and sparked so many questions from her. Overall, the museum was clean, scenic, and thoroughly enjoyable.

One of the best art museums in Texas. The large, spacious and intricate work on each wall was such a blast to explore over the weekend. I greatly enjoyed every piece.. Although at times there were a few kids running around and yelling, there were plenty of staff members to ensure proper behavior. We purchased our tickets online which made the process easy. The young women at the front desk were nice and informative. We will totally be back again! P.S the parking wasnt a pain at all and affordable compared to other cities downtown area.

Fun place to hang out and stare at art. There are free guided tours you can take, fun interesting stuff to learn from different paintings and eras. Shoutout to Rohini for explaining the different paintings from the Spanish/renaissance era. I'm not big into art but still found it lovely.

Worth the trip on the free admission Tuesday’s! Relatively small museum with a great gift shop for unique + high quality pieces. Front desk staff and docents were all super friendly. Buildings architecture is gorgeous and there’s a great shaded park to sit at near the entrances for a coffee break or picnic lunch.

The museum is well done, quiet and decently sized. Their collection is not huge, but there is plenty to see. We enjoyed the late hours on Saturday. Appreciated the free locker and clean bathrooms. Staff were friendly and kind.

Walking in felt like a great breath of fresh air. Such welcoming staff working the front desk. Glad they help give discounts for students in college and university paid only $5 instead of $10. They had different floors and different peaces of art 🎨. Each floor had a different theme. Roof top had a great views to the capital amd alot of walking space. As a art museum lover each floor has something for us to enjoy. You can tell each peice has a backstory just buy looking at it.

It's not that fair to review and our museum after only seeing one exhibit, but this was a pleasant experience regardless. The art was insightful. The facilities clean and quiet. The staff was very helpful. Also the prices were not bad at all! It's a great way to support local and Texas artist as well!

Wonderful small art museum! Worth the $5 entry plus anything you can donate. Knowledgeable and wonderfully friendly staff. Love what they do and where they are. This place needs all the support to help them grow.

This museum does such an amazing job with school tours! I went as a chaperone on a field trip and was so impressed by how friendly and organized the staff was. From meeting us at the bus, to redirecting our students as soon as they stepped out of line, they did a wonderful job guiding us through the museum and giving an age appropriate tour! Highly recommend a visit.

This is a very interesting and hip museum of modern art. It should be a must-see on a visit to downtown Austin.

Small, but the current exhibition is great.

Went on a free admission day. It was much smaller and having much less artwork than we thought. Two floors have artwork from only one artist. Also we wish there would be more descriptions for each artwork to make visitors more engaged. Overall good location, friendly staff, and nice rooftop. There was nothing going on at rooftop when we visited, but it was good view. I will probably go back on a free day for new exhibition sometime.

Occupying a single floor, Mexic is small: a mere handful of rooms. Given that size, the $8 admission seems like a reach. Look past that, however, and Mexic offers unique art ranging from murals to photos to an elaborate room-sized nativity display. The gift shop is well worth a look as well. As museums go, Mexic-Arte’s size and scope are underwhelming. However, this place serves an important mission and gives you a chance to see art you probably won’t find elsewhere.

My partner and I were in Austin for a layover and saw that this museum was free on Sunday and I decided to go in. We loved it. It was very welcoming, the art was beautiful, it highlighted amazing Latinx artists, and has an amazing gift shop. Would definitely recommend visiting as it's an affordable cultural experience.

This time we went they were in the middle of staging a new gallery, so we mostly had access to just the store. They did have a TV playing slides of all the work and different displays they had set up over time, amazing work. I've been here several times. I can see there has been thought and intuition that goes into the way they build out their displays and make artist selections. This is not just a random gallery. There's a lot of heart and soul that goes into what they do here. The only way to understand it is to see it in person. They still had some cool little pieces to look at while the gallery was being updated. We bought some little gift store things we thought were cool. Staff is always 10/10

The museum is closed, hence the 4 stars instead of 5, only the gift shop is open but they have some wonderful artwork, sculptures, jewelry and other things for sale. Picked up some gifts for my kids while in Austin for a conference. Beautiful work, thank you!

There is normally an admission fee, but we were able to get in free admission because of a concert they had. I would recommend signing up for their email newsletters to keep you in the loop about events there. The people upfront were super helpful and friendly. The space is filled with art from all over artisans in Mexico. Everything is on display and I would definitely recommend this for all tourist and locals to check out. The gift shop is a great place to go and grab a birthday card or a birthday gift, if you are a part of the Mexican culture, you will love this place. They had a Huapango concert, I mean, that is very unique!

Beautiful museum. A great place showcasing Mexican-American artists within a respectful space. It's very welcoming, and I love the natural feel of the place. They do different exhibits often, so there's always something new to see. The shop is fun at the end of your visit (the stickers are my favorite). Great displays and information cards. You can often buy the art, so it's wonderful to have the opportunity to obtain some of the artists' works! Highly recommend for any guests or locals who haven't visited!

The museum is free on Sunday. Overall, it feels more like a gallery than a museum: We saw an exposition of a specific art movement that was broken down by year, but it did not have much coherence overall. I appreciate them showcasing modern artists, however, their selection/curation process is not clear. I do not recommend going in on the days it’s not free. As for parking, we found a spot on the street.

I had my wedding at Umlauf Sculpture Garden on May 3, 2025. I cannot think of a more magical location for a venue. The whole day felt like a fairy tale because of the lush greenery, babbling brooks, and elegant sculptures. Pros: They let me visit as many times as I wanted They answered no fewer than 200 of my emails The coordinators were so sweet and easy to work with The venue is gorgeous. Some quick notes: The event rental is only from 4 PM - Midnight, including load in and load out and the amplified sound has to be off my 10. This means extra charges for delivery timing, usually only about an hour and a half of dancing, and other specialized coordination. If you use their preferred vendors, then they can let them come in at 3:30. However, there was a lot of confusion on my wedding day and it set us 30 minutes behind the whole night, which is huge. Working with this venue can be a bit of an undertaking which I underestimated, so just something to note! That all being said, I do not regret my decision to have my wedding here! It was a lovely night.

We were looking for cheap things to do during our trip and are so glad we found this place. We had fun going on a little scavenger hunt to find certain statues. My little niece was excited each time she found one on her paper. It was a nice little walk in nature as well. Highly recommend visiting.

We loved visiting the garden. It was hot outside, but there is plenty of shade surrounding the garden. There is a nice waterfall to sit near. Great information on each sculpture.

Visited on a family day with free admission and was surprised by how much this little garden offers! I always pass by the garden and peek from outside, but there are more sculptures hidden among plants and trees to be discovered in the garden!!! It just made me feel zen and relaxing by sitting down on a bench listening to the wind and water! The paths, plants, and ponds are so well planned. They have many activities today, like chess, arts and crafts, story time, and pottery. The staffs are super friendly too! Will definitely come back visit again.

Not much to see. The map suggests the property is much larger than it actually is. I would not recommend this being you will only be there 15 minutes at best.

The Umlauf was the first wedding vendor my now-husband and I booked for our 80-person November 2023 wedding, and our day was as gorgeous as we knew it would be with such a venue. Although we were worried about rain on the day-of, it ended up just being a gorgeous light overcast that made all the greens and golds of the trees so lush and beautiful—which in turn gave us the most beautiful wedding photos. We hosted both our ceremony and reception in the space, and the gardens are so versatile that it never felt crowded, only fun and intimate. We absolutely loved the flexibility of this venue and being able to bring in our own team of selected vendors (with approval) to make our day as tailored to our wants as possible. The team at the Umlauf were always so quick to answer questions and provide information as we planned, and you can tell how much the staff loves sharing the beauty of the space with people. We worked with 2 different venue managers during our planning process, but the transition was seamless and never caused us any issues. We did book 2 tents for the wedding because the rain chances were so all-over-the-place, so that is one aspect you have to consider when planning an outdoor wedding. Another thing to remember is that they are a museum, so if your wedding is on a day they’re open, you won’t have access to the venue until 4 pm. We got married on Monday (their Closed day) and were able to pay for a couple of extra hours to get in early, which did help with the time crunch. I like this museum and there’s a lot to see. Texas has such a rich history that can be easily missed if you’re not paying attention. I’d recommend setting aside 2 hours to get thought it. Pro-tip: It’s free the 1st Sunday of every month. 10/10 Cows 🐄

The Bullock Texas State History Museum is a great place to dive into the rich and complex history of Texas. The exhibits are well-curated, interactive, and engaging for all ages. The IMAX theater is a fun bonus, and the layout of the museum makes it easy to explore at your own pace. My only complaint is that the ticket prices feel a bit steep, especially for families or repeat visits. That said, the overall experience is definitely worth it if you're interested in Texas history. Would recommend, just be prepared for the cost!

Bullock Texas State History Museum ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The shipwreck exhibit is absolutely fascinating — beautifully presented with meticulous artifacts displayed around the vessel. It’s incredibly informative and unique, and I loved being able to view the shipwreck from above as I moved through the upper floors. One of the highlights is seeing the original Goddess of Liberty statue from the Texas Capitol dome. Standing before her gives you a whole new appreciation for the artistry and scale — it’s amazing to consider how she was designed to be seen from 300 feet away! The museum is a perfect size to explore in about 1.5–2 hours, and when I visited, there was a bonus exhibit on loan featuring a T. rex from New York — a fun surprise that added to the experience.

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Bullock Texas State History Museum for the first time—and wow, what an experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by two incredibly kind and welcoming gentlemen, Don and Joseph. They took the time to explain what was inside the museum, answered all my questions, and made me feel right at home even before I bought my ticket. Once inside, I was completely captivated. The museum takes you on a powerful journey through the rich and complex history of Texas—starting with Indigenous cultures and Mexican independence from Spain, all the way to the modern era. Every exhibit was thoughtfully curated and packed with fascinating artifacts. I left feeling inspired, informed, and eager to return. If you haven’t been yet, it’s a must-see—truly a Texas treasure!

I always have a lovely time here. Fantastic and informative exhibits, lovely staff, and typically quiet if you go early on a week day. Bonus points for the bathrooms being clean and the elevators not being super scary, haha. Recently visited for the T. rex exhibit, and I highly recommend checking it out while you can!

The museum venue is nice. There were interesting things to look at but I wish it was more interactive. I'm used to a Griffith or Smithsonian Museum, but for a small easy I'm this was worth a stroll through.

It is free on the first Sunday in the month (Thanks HEB) so what is not to like! 😁 We skipped the long queues for the imax and dinosaurs but did the 3 floors on Texas history in the rest of the museum There is a lot of really interesting reading but the little kids seemed a bit bored. We loved it as adults. Def worth the time (about 2 hrs)

Highly recommended! There was a nice exhibition when we were there and we enjoyed the library as well. It was also fun to see the manuscripts they had.

Went to check out the Live from New York: The Lorne Michaels Collection experience and found it fascinating as a self-proclaimed comedy nerd. I appreciate the costumes and scripts displayed throughout the exhibit. I highly recommend a visit if you appreciate the legacy Lorne Michaels has created.

I got to witness some of the greatest treasures I have ever seen in my life. We were invited to a private showing of the Stark collection and listen to Aaron talk about each one. From early renditions of william shakespeare to some of the earliest Bibles made...it was an honor I will never forget.

This museum is small and it is FREE to get in. They have the first known photograph on display. They have the Gutenberg Bible and several other books on display. It was a nice visit.

We took the tour called Long lives of very old books and had a great time learning about the well curated books that the curator and the employees cherish to have in their collection. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to spend a great time learning the history of books and the importance that they have.

This is a must see while you’re in the Austin area. This museum is small but also free. They do except small donations. There’s a Frieda Khalid painting, the first ever photograph, and a Gutenberg Bible. An incredible amount of history in such a small space. The staff here were helpful and friendly. There are not large bags allowed. You do have free use of locked lockers. There is a small exhibit on at this time, which I assume rotates. There is no free parking for this building.

The Harry Ransom Center is so incredible! I visited several years ago while studying at The University of Texas at Austin, and my experience was amazing. My family & I went to see their Gone with the Wind exhibit, and it was so awesome. If you’re in Austin, definitely visit! Make note that their website has great information about their collections if you want to obtain more detail about their displays before you go!

Absolutely beautiful property that's lots of fun to explore. And plenty of sculptures and other art to look at. It is free but I highly encourage donating so they can maintain the property and add some new additions they have planned! They also usually have events going on all the time.

Small, but impressive museum in Central Austin. I've driven past this museum hundreds of times and never noticed this mini-castle that's a block off of 45th street. If you're curious about Austin/Texas history, this museum is worth checking out. The architecture of the building is pretty cool see. Inside there's various sculptures of famous European and Texas figures.

This studio museum was amazing to explore. Love Elisabet Ney and her husband's history. The studio she designed was equally impressive. Her clay sculptures were beautiful, including the last piece she had worked on before she died, Prometheus! This place is a must for anyone visiting Austin. Architecture was incredibly designed and built by her, totally functional and resembled a small castle.

We loved this place. I love seeing old architecture in a place you wouldn't expect. There are many sculptures and paintings to see. There is also an upstairs to visit inside. Be aware that the stairs are narrow. Also outside is great for filming and taking pictures. The staff was very helpful.

Great small museum for visit even if you are not the sculptures expert, you can enjoy the story of this wonderful talented woman and her husband, loved the interior and atmosphere, you will have a list with names of presented sculptures. Absolutely recommended if you are in Austin, no cost, not crowded, located in green zone.

Such a fun little museum. They have a lot original plaster casts and a couple marbles. The building and lot were awesome with secret doors and a bookcase door that we got to look at. The kids loved all the secrets. Nice little contemporary show of wall art in one room that is has rotating shows.

Shame... the museum is beautiful and has great pieces. But the visit with the family was horribly interrupted because there is a permanent homeless dude outside yelling every time you pass by. Went three times and 3/3 he was there yelling at us.

We were very disappointed. Carver did many great things. It would have been nice to see his accomplishments and his life. To me, this place was more of a community center than a museum. Oh, it's beautiful inside, and lots to do. Museum, though, it is not. This will be reflected in the photos I share. I took 300 photos at LBJs library. Because there was that much stuff. I took 75 at a hot dog joint. Free, plenty of parking

Okay. So my cousin and I had a cousin's weekend and we decided to come down for the June celebration at the George Washington Carver Museum. Another friend of mine came down also that day and when we got out there, the place is really beautiful. There was a bunch of people out there. Once we got in they checked our bags they gave us passes as wristbands. If you were getting any type of a alcoholic beverage, you got another wristband for that also. As you walk in. There were food trucks and different people everywhere that had kids, teenagers, families it was a beautiful site seeing everyone out. There were all types and people singing on the stage. Everything was out here, including the Sun. 😆 It was so hot that day. 🥵 So my cousin and my friend, we grab some food. We sat down on the side of the building where there was a shade and ate. I do have to say I stopped at this. Called Sweeter Than Sour drink vendor and got my friend a strawberry lemonade and got myself a peach mango strawberry lemonade. They put alot of ice which made it,so good.😋 While I was waiting in line, I met this beautiful young lady and I asked her could I take her picture.Her name was Amani and she was the Miss African USA Finalists pageant. You Go Lady!!🤩 As for the vendors they were selling clothes, hats, and other things. My friend and my cousin, they chose to eat barbecue. It was called Just Like Mama's so food seafood in barbecue.🤯 I ate at anything baked potato and got a stir fry vegetable potato and added chicken and it was really good.😜 i can't say that we stayed a long time.Because it was really hot, but we really did enjoy the environment and the people and the food until next time.Thanks for the memories🥰

Hidden Gem 💎 Happen to come here for Museum Day. Never heard of it and it’s wasn’t on my radar. What a nice little surprise. It’s a quaint museum with only two exhibits. One on American Slavery and the other on a rotating schedule. Riley Holloway’s What I Carry exhibits was currently being displayed. Surprisingly there’s no George Washington Carver exhibit outside of the children’s room. You’ll spend 20 minutes tops here. If you are in the area and have time to kill stop in by. My family and I last visited this museum in 2022. We were here for a plant/seed exchange event. I definitely recommend visiting. This museum has lots of educational displays. I never knew this place existed. As someone who is biracial I definitely appreciate that there’s a museum for black history here in Austin.

Yesterday, I visited the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin with my sister and brother-in-law for the first time. What we discovered wasn’t simply a museum, it was a brick-n-mortar testament to the endurance, creativity, and contributions of Black people both locally and globally. The standing exhibit honors members of Austin’s Black community, tracing their legacy and embedding their stories within the larger diaspora. My personal favorite was the inclusion of queer contributions to the community, especially through the work of Boyd Reginald Vance. It was affirming to see his legacy centered, a reminder that Black history is never one-dimensional—it is vast, layered, and inclusive. Alongside this, the contemporary exhibition we experienced was nothing short of phenomenal. It felt less like a passive display and more like an active dialogue between past and present, bridging generations with art as the connective tissue. What makes this place remarkable is that it’s not just a museum; it’s a multipurpose center, a space for exhibitions, education, and community. It’s the kind of cultural institution that deserves not only our visits but also our financial support. I, for one, look forward to making donations to ensure places like this continue thriving. In a city that changes quickly, what does it mean to preserve and elevate the voices that built it? Perhaps the Carver Museum itself offers the answer: by honoring history, we create a more expansive future.

I’ve learned so much African-American history in one visit! I love the layout of the museum and it’s inspired me to be even more relentless in my own artistic endeavors. There is such a beautiful tribute to the African American families that have paved the way in the city of Austin. Truly worth visiting!!!

Wonderful place to spend your time at. Nice atmosphere, learn more about your history and see their images. Get introduced to artist and poets through the exhibits and book store. Come on down and bring your family and friends.

Cannot say enough positive things about this museum/library and its staff. We came in from a family recommendation on our trip to San Antonio-Austin, and it was really memorable. The staff welcome you upon entry, giving a detailed, knowledge overview of the exhibits and LBJ history. You can tell how passionate they are about the subject matter! When we went in Oct 2025, their library floors were under construction, but the first and top floors are still really interesting and impressive. I'm not a big history buff, but I left feeling really inspired and empowered. Speaks to the expertise of the team and how engaging the museum is. We also came in on a Tuesday, which happened to be half price!

As a foreign visitor, some of the content didn’t feel as close or personal to me—but I still found it engaging and very informative. The museum presents LBJ’s legacy with honesty, showing both the achievements and the controversies. Some exhibits feel a bit dated, but the architecture and certain spaces alone make it worth a visit. If you’re into politics, U.S. history, or just enjoy well-designed museums, it’s a solid stop.

Absolutely top-notch experience at the LBJ Presidential Library. This place is a must-visit for anyone interested in American history, politics, or just great storytelling through primary sources. The museum begins with a powerful timeline that tracks LBJ’s life alongside major events in U.S. and world history. It sets the tone perfectly and really grounds you in the era. The Vietnam 1968 exhibit was incredibly moving—thoughtfully curated and emotionally resonant, it gives a deep and nuanced view of such a complicated time. The next floor continues the journey with exhibits on JFK’s assassination, the Civil Rights Movement, and LBJ’s landmark Great Society programs. It’s informative, immersive, and at times deeply personal. Even though the actual archives aren’t open to the public, their towering presence between the museum levels adds a real sense of weight and importance to the space. And at the top? A stunning recreation of LBJ’s Oval Office—elegant, detailed, and incredibly cool to stand inside. Highly recommend making time for this if you’re in Austin. It’s not just a presidential library—it’s a powerful, well-crafted look at a transformative period in American life.

I visited this location on Austin's Free Museum Day, 9/21/2025. Several other free admission days. Today featured a live performance by a band. Friendly staff, gift shop, tons of exhibits. Part of the NARA, which oversees presidential libraries around the country. Self guided tours, be sure to check out the replica Oval Office on level 10.

This was such an enjoyable experience. The employees are knowledgeable and are able to give facts you’ll find interesting. The space was easy to navigate and there is plenty to see, so make time to see it all! My personal favorite was seeing Lady Bird’s office with the magnificent view of downtown Austin. They have a great amount of video experiences as well. Fantastic experience!

We have visited several libraries in the past few years. We definitely did not spend enough time there, but it was not exactly drawing us in to see more. Nice people in the library, and nice to learn a little more about LBJ. Been to JFK, Nixon, Reagan, both Bush libraries, this was probably the oldest and least impressive.

Always worth seeing, this community-centered gallery features rotating exhibits of female artists. The gallery often participated in Austin's annual museum day. The building itself is fascinating too, originating as a grocery store in the 1890s. One side of the gallery features several large pages of glass facing across a shallow grass lawn punctuated by an artistic fountain.

I had a performance in the space 2 weeks ago and it was quite magical!! It was for the Fusebox Festival in Austin and I was dancing with Gesel Mason in her project Yes,And.

Moriah and her partner did a great job leading a tour for my school. The students were able to interact with a few different installations and we really enjoyed the peace and serenity of the garden.

While the price for three was a bit steeper than we expected, our daughter had an absolutely amazing time here! The interactive activities could easily keep kids busy for hours, and we even had fun playing alongside her at the various displays. Her favorite spot was definitely the outdoor river system and play area. A pro tip: bring a water bottle for that section, as it can get hot even with the shade!

Such a fun place. They have a baby bloomers program for 0-3 year olds from 8-10am which was amazing. Staff are so good and such good story time leaders. Great for all kids’ ages. Very hands on area.

Our children were just outside the range of perfection. Our son is 11 and found some of the activities interesting but not for too long, and our daughter is 7 months old and enjoyed grabbing everything and putting it in her mouth. Still a great experience

We had a wonderful time at Thinkery! Our 1.5-year-old daughter absolutely loved it—so many hands-on activities and interactive spaces perfect for little ones. It’s a fun, engaging, and educational spot for kids. Highly recommend for families visiting Austin!

We love Thinkery. My child can spend an hour or more playing with the water activities alone. We have visited a few times but this time was on Museum day which was extremely busy because it was free entry. This is the best place for inquisitive children, but also great for adults. Build and bond with your child. Hint: Take dry change of clothes if your kiddo loves playing with water. Staff are friendly and helpful even on their busiest day of the year. Also note they have a Penny Press, in case your child collects them. Also in area are Lick ice cream, other eating options, and a small mostly shaded playscape by the lake.

Very kind place to visit during the weekend. 🤩🥳😊 The kids loved the place, especially the aquarium section. 🐳🐠🐡 There is no free parking there (get ready to park in the street and paid).

This was a fun experience. While the building was no where near capacity, there were definitely rooms that should probably have capacities as it felt very crowded at times. Our little one enjoyed the room with building blocks (and Legos), he enjoyed the chicken coop, and loved the water area.

Thursdays are free! So you know, as a free experience this was fun. The art is interesting to read about, even if I didn’t understand most of it. It’s a cute place. Near the lake. Fun to wander around. Right next to the peacock park, so do two things at once if you’re in the area.

Love this museum. It’s outdoors and there are pretty cool sculptures to check out. Pro Tip: It’s free Thursday’s go around 6:30 pm and grab pizza afterwards. 10/10 Sculptures 🗿

I have great memories of summer art classes at Laguna Gloria. It’s a beautiful place to walk, enjoy the sculptures, and take in lake views. There’s a small entry fee now, but the café makes it worth it, a perfect spot for a sunny day.

Very nice place! It was a good choice of placement for the lake was just in eye sight. Majority of art there were installations which I like personally the most. My favorite was “Looking Up,” by Tom Friedman which is the pinned tall aluminum man in the fountain area. A lot of the art was in the forest, and it was very relaxing and refreshing to go to an art museum that wasn’t indoors. Overall the experience was amazing, and they have an art school and summer camp for kids 4-17. I would suggest 10 out of 10 great place to go.

A really amazing experience, walking at the park at sunset. Just can't miss it, this is one of my happy places in the city. Thursdays are free! But in case you go on another day, the fee is $10.

October 2024 This was my first visit to the Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria and enjoyed it. I loved the walking trails though the woods and along Lake Austin seeing all the artwork in the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park. I was impressed by all of it including the grounds with the Driscoll Villa, Visitor Center/Shop, Art School and Spread and Co. Café. The only drawback is finding a parking spot along the street since there is no lot on site. However, I did plan my visit by seeing it during the week around lunchtime where easily found a spot and parking is free. It was very relaxing and peaceful felling you were away from the busy Austin city life. The staff was very friendly and like it so much I purchased a membership.

Amazing natural walk with large sculptures among cypress trees on the water’s edge. Free on the first weekend every month with a Bank of America credit card.

First time to the gallery. Jill, the owner, was very welcoming and we had a pleasant conversation. Came to see W. Tucker's, I Made These Things For You exhibition which I highly recommend. The space is lovely with its old wood floors, but modern and so accommodating to display artworks on its long walls in separate areas of this old east Austin house. Hope to follow more of the gallery's showings now that I've had an opportunity to visit.

I enjoyed my visit here and was pleasantly surprised to find a female artist exhibition. The interior of the building has been designed with good architecture in mind. The building is broken up into two main spaces that allows for video installations in the back. Newer technology was also used on a large flat screen for an additional video. This gallery has good natural light in the largest room. The gallery owner was in on Saturday evening. She was welcoming. This was my first visit and I would go back to view future exhibitions.

Comfortable & interesting place to go. Always a large, varied, enthused crowd. Fairly wide range in the art from one show to another, while generally "contemporary". Owners have saved a part of our history, rescuing an old house from replacement by huge, boxy, flat-faced condos. Our history - 99% of us: the normal bungalows & cottages most of us grew up in, familiar and easy on the eyes. If one of you is less into loud crowds (51-57% of Americans are more introvert than extrovert - like me), the DUCK has us covered. After viewing the art once, quietly slip through the glass side doors for a vivid contrast of Nature, Quiet, open sky, huge pecan tree, places to sit. After a few minutes recharging you might go in and be drawn back to that one piece.

Great space that showcases local artists covering a wide range of mediums. Makes for a great 30 minutes to an hour to soak in some awesome art.

It's a must stop for Creativity in Austin. The shows are always interesting with a wonderfully welcoming vibe.

That museum's awesome; it really brings Texas military history to life. They've got tons of cool stuff – uniforms, weapons, even restored vehicles – showing what the Guard, Army, and Air Force did. And it's free! Plus, the staff is super helpful. Definitely worth checking out if you're into that kind of thing.

Superb museum! Lots of fascinating exhibits which are all nicely presented and well laid out. History covers Texas history all the way from its formation through to modern day (as well as a broader American military history). Great cross section of vehicles to see as well. Absolutely worth a visit if you are in the area and have an interest in military history

Fascinating little museum. The indoors area is on the smaller side, but filled to the brim with information and TANKS! Then you get to go explore outside and the place suddenly becomes huge, and full of TANKS! I see tanks, I stop. I had loads of fun checking out all the things in here. They did ask for proof of identification at the entrance though, so be aware.

Extensive collection of iconic military equipment especially WW2 from both allied and axis forces. Not to mention a lot of information and exhibits you can easily spend two hours here and it’s FREE

Top class Museum which has a treasure trove of exhibits and information. Feast for WW2 puffs. You will find German KFZ251 and Kubelwagon too. Need to spend good time to absorb all the information available there. Regarding military history, major wars, equipments, vehicles, dresses all just you name it and you will find it. Added bonus it is free to visit.

I'm an avid lover of military small arms, aircraft, artillery and tanks (To the point that I walked through the museum and named off most of the equipment to my wife before I read the plaques) and this place is my literal definition of heaven, with a plethora of all of the above (including several of my rarer favorites that I never thought I'd get to see in person) and more available for your viewing pleasure. Also admission was free and we basically had the place to ourselves, with only 2 other small families spread across the massive extent of the museum, we barely noticed them.

Amazing FREE museum about Texas' independence, WW1, WW2 and the newer wars. Besides all the equipment, there is a lot of extra historic information and context. I prefer it over The Alamo ! They also have very friendly and knowledgable personnel, you can take as much pictures as you like, sit in a F16 cockpit, there are a few dioramas, videos and the got a great collection of weaponry (from the classic 1800s Colt to modern era tanks, vehicles, howitzers, helicopters and even a cruise-missile) setup inside and outside you can walk around. Definitely worth a visit; both for fun and for educational purposes !

Amazing contemporary art! Calder, Picasso, and extremely talented lesser known artists. I really enjoyed seeing the extensive Dr. Seuss collection!

This amazing gallery is always a treat to visit and shop. Featuring local, regional and national artists in multiple disciplines, it also includes works by Salador Dali and a humorous, poignant collection of Dr. Suess' paintings and sculptures.

Had a great time visiting Ao5 Gallery! Todd is an exceptional human being! You passion for art is quite contagious 🤣. When you visit his gallery, please allow yourself at least an hour to fully enjoy all what’s there to see. Just pure entertainment!

I liked the artwork the gallery offered, but unfortunately, I did not have a pleasant shopping experience. The staff came across as pretentious and did not create a welcoming environment. I wasn’t acknowledged when I entered, and when I asked questions about the art and the artists, I was met with snide remarks. The staff's attitude changed once I made a purchase, but that shouldn’t be the standard. Would I shop here again? Not in person, but perhaps online. It’s a shame too because I was genuinely excited to visit and browse the store.

I stumbled upon this place and was so happy I did. The art is beautiful and it looked like you could purchase a frame here too if you buy art. There’s a diverse collection here and a nice gift shop area. The art ranges in prices and sizes.

I highly recommend the Ao5 Gallery. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff were very helpful, and they have a wide collection of art. The first time that I went to the gallery, since I was interested in Dali works, the owner took me to the Dali room and discussed the works that I was interested in and discussed various artwork on display. Also, I am afraid sometimes when I buy art on-line, since I might not be buying authentic pieces. But all of the Ao5 Gallery pieces are authenticated. Finally, the Ao5 Gallery has pieces that are only $10 to very expensive pieces, and they also do great framing. If you have time, I highly recommend that you stop by the Ao5 Gallery when you are at or close by the Arboretum.

An amazing gallery. Highly recommended if your ever in Austin. Todd and Cassady were great hosts. Has the largest Dr. Seuss collection in the world and also a huge Jermaine Rogers collection. Can't wait to come back....take all my cash!

My daughter and I stumbled upon this gallery while experiencing the antique gallery next door. I am so GRATEFUL that we did ❤️ I purchased some "new to me" art by artist Tara McPherson and I am IN LOVE 🩵 Victoria Elida was our Art Consultant and she was very knowledgeable and helpful in regards to our tastes 🩵🩷 We will be experiencing the new collection/exhibit next weekend for sure 🥰

Great helpful staff! The gallery features contemporary street and graffiti artists. The price points show the value of urban influenced artists. They offer financing on the art. Nice space with great lighting to see the art.

Very trendy but not sophisticated. The gallery leans heavily into what’s trendy right now, with flashy, eye-catching work that’s curated to impress at first glance. It may attract newer collectors or those decorating with a short-term mindset, but there’s little here that suggests staying power. The focus seems to be more on what’s fashionable than what’s meaningful, leaving the overall collection feeling a bit shallow.

I visited to see the “Concrete to Canvas” installation, and it exceeded my expectations. The flow of the gallery made for a digestible and easy way to appreciate all the art. I would highly recommend anyone to go if they want to take some time to learn about and see some of the most renowned street artists pieces.

I spent time earlier this week at West Chelsea Contemporary in Austin. It was truly one of the more unique and duckling art (and life) experiences. They were in between shows and setting up after a brief but detailed and fun conversation I walked the gallery and enjoyed the exhibits. Warhol, Koons, Yue Minjun and others. Allee the Assistant Director had greeted me on the way in, before I left she has few gems I had to see. Works from KAWS and Murakami up close as you can see. All of this based on a brief conversation. She was engaging with my sons talking about their thoughts and favorites. I purchased a couple books but this is an experience my sons and I will take with us forever. I’ll be back and won’t be leaving empty handed!

I really enjoyed this place. Wide variety of ceramics to paint and the gift shop is cool. After the pieces fired they turned out so nice and it was a lot of fun to do. Only downside is it's a little pricey and the parking is not the best. Arrive early!

I appreciate their response and effectively, “making things right.” I have purchased several Jake Bryer prints, enjoy his artwork and hope to acquire future works when available. Had a great experience purchasing in store, but while there we inquired with Chelsea about framing a specific piece with a shadowbox effect. She took our information (phone, email) and promised to follow up after speaking to her colleague. We didn't hear anything back after a week so I emailed her and then a week later her and the general inbox for the gallery. No one ever responded to either email. Disappointing as a we would have loved to support a local artist.

This gallery is one of the best in town. No small feat in an art-loving city like Austin, the gallery is built into an old house and offers cozy vignettes featuring small numbers of works in each room. Intimate and welcoming as well as home to some of the best artists Austin has to offer.

Last Friday evening marked my first visit to Wally Workman for an opening reception; and I can see exactly why this established gallery has been providing art to the Austin area for so many years. The staff is welcoming, the space is airy and uncomplicated and contains a diverse selection of art. There are enough seats in each viewing room to sit back, relax and take it all in. I go to many art opening receptions; and Workman seems to pride themselves on providing their patrons with an exceptional art experience.

Stopped by to check out their art collection. I liked it but the inexperienced staff was not helpful, and the owner (Wally) never got back to me despite leaving contact information. Edit: Upgrading my review after the gallerist reached out to me via telephone. Apparently, she was out with an appendectomy and recovery took longer than expected. She was helpful in providing me, a novice, a better understanding of their gallery and the fine art world in general.

Wally represents some of the area's best and most creative artists, and she and her staff are always personable and helpful with information about the art. I highly recommend this gallery, and always look forward to seeing their new exhibits.

This museum is a must for fans of the strange and unusual! It has all sorts of displays and exhibits to enjoy from all of my favorite genres (horror, Sci Fi, urban legends, etc.). I recommend going on a weekday if you can before the crowds show up.

Absolutely loved how campy and quirky this place is—total hidden gem in downtown Austin! The Museum of the Weird starts off with a cool collection of oddities and curiosities, then pulls you into the bizarre tale of the Minnesota Ice Man. The Unsolved Mysteries segment was a personal favorite—totally nostalgic and spooky in the best way. The freak show was way better than expected—fun, energetic, and surprisingly impressive. And the wax museum toward the end was the perfect weird cherry on top. If you’re into the unusual, the eerie, or just looking for something different, this place is a blast. My girlfriend and I recently attended the tea service at the Neill-Cochran House Museum, catered by the Austin English Tea Company. The teas were decent, though many were unusual floral blends that weren’t quite to my taste. From the conversation at our table, it seemed most people preferred the more traditional flavors. The sandwiches were fine, and the desserts were quite nice. The real highlight, however, was exploring the museum itself and enjoying the wonderful company at our table. Overall, it was a lovely experience—and since it supports the museum, we’d happily do it again.

If you’re an architecture buff or a history buff this is a must see. Not only is it beautiful, it tells the story of Austin in a period of transition. The slave quarters are particularly interesting. Sometimes it is hard to remember/ believe that slavery was practiced in Austin, and this is a reminder of that. The staff is super nice too. Definitely worth the low entry price.

Free parking in the back, can’t believe it coz’ usually parking on downtown is an issue. There was a super knowable girl in charge the museum that answer all my questions. Museum was clean and open on Sundays. The history of the house is very interesting and well preserved, they even illustrate the kind of food they used to have.

Very good for learning about history. You see these places in the movies etc and when your not from the US you can come see what these buildings are really like and learn about the history.

There are several photos on Google already. I am adding the wicker loveseat from 1880 during the time of the Neills. This is part of an original 5 piece set of which 3 remain. Tge arm chairs were already uploaded by someone else. This is the only existing slave dwelling in Austin. There are a few other exterior photos at different angles. Due to this not being an agricultural producing plantation the dwelling matches the exterior of the main house. However, it had a dirt floor and little is known about the residents. Approximately 10 ten enslaved persons lived in the two floors.

Lovely little museum in the heart of the city. The museum is located one of the oldest buildings in Austin Texas. The building itself is incredibly beautiful and historic and the art within is such a nice treat. Many local artists are highlighted here.

It's a lovely site with a scenic, though now crowded, view of downtown Austin and the Capitol. The grounds are free to explore, while the buildings require an admission fee. Within, there are some well-preserved historical pieces and a good bit of reading posted nearby to give context to the time and nature of the exhibit. It's not large, though, so a viewing could last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, dependent on how much trading and detailed viewing you partake in. I would also say, though, that if you are with smaller children, or adults that don't care for that kind of experience, plan on cutting out quickly or having them spend the majority of the time outside which, as mentioned, is at least nice.

Please note the exhibit doesn't open until 11AM. There is a Starbucks Cafe on site that opens at 7AM. Parking available. Wheelchair accessible as the upstairs is not part of the exhibit (houses HVAC). So I'm giving this House and Kitchen Museum 4 stars for a few reasons. My friend and I were both a bit underwhelmed. And very surprised there was no material culture exhibit of the original land inhabitants. The focus if the exhibit is during the Era when this building was The French Legation to the Republic of Texas. Very informative docent tour. I was actually a bit more impressed with the kitchen. But I would recommend this if you enjoy house museums.

Fascinating piece of Texas history and the grounds are stunning. The THC guide, Kyle, was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable of the history of the French Legation and surrounding areas around Austin. We loved the cafe/visitor center. Super friendly staff, and the sandwiches, chips, drinks, and fruit/cheese trays were delicious. Bathroom was impeccably clean. If you enjoy Texas history, I highly recommend the French Legation home.

Nice venue to learn about Texas history and France's relationship with Texas. Be sure to check out their Web site for upcoming events. We were able to find street parking not too far away. Definitely worth checking out.

New discovery. I had always wanted to check out gis house and historic site in Austin.

It was interesting to see how Austin city has developed throughout the history. It is nice to look at. I was here for the Museum day so I am not sure what the cost is usually. I took one star off just because it only took me 30 minutes to look at everything. Staffs were very friendly.

A visit to the Texas Music Museum is a worthwhile stop for music fans visiting Austin. It offers thoughtful coverage across genres and is enlightening with its bios of lessor known Texan musicians of influence. The staff volunteer was welcoming and articulate, sharing stories and inviting conversation about a current exhibit featuring blues music history in Austin’s East Side. Parking was convenient, free, although not apparent until after I entered the museum for advice. The audio-visual resources are in need of an upgrade and that’s where visitors’ presence and donations can help pay it forward for the next guy.

if you’re a music fan in any capacity i think this is a great stop when visiting Austin. Spans a lot of history and genres and the volunteers are very knowledgeable and passionate! I was very impressed and happy we stopped by.

In reading through these comments, I noticed that one important aspect hasn’t been mentioned which is the museum’s remarkable archive and collection. The true gem of this organization is their archive. The dedication and care put into preserving this incredible collection over the past 40 years is truly remarkable — a legacy that deserves to be valued and celebrated. Kudos to the collections manager, archivist and staff for their outstanding work and dedication to preserving Texas music history!

I called to see if they were open for visitors because the website did not mention anything about visiting hours. They said that was the most common complaint and that should be rectified when the revised website comes online next month. I was very impressed with the facts and artifacts on display in such a small space. When I mentioned that they didn't have some more contemporary artist info, I was told that because of the small size of the facility, they can only display about 10% of what they've got. Since it's affiliated with the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State, they've got plenty of source material to keep people interested in the rich history Texas music satisfied for years to come. They just need more funding to reach their full potential. More visitors would help. They cover a wide variety of genres.

My wife said that the displays reminded her of her grade school scrap book projects. While the museum is long on displays and short on artifacts, it’s hard to criticize a museum that free and run by volunteers. I would take headphones to listen to the YouTube videos that are easily accessed through QR codes.

Still a work in progress! More a 3.5, but... Loads of information about the Texas music scene! Trying to add to space and add to the information! Enjoy, wish there had been souvenirs.

Fun museum on Texas Music History!

Free to visit. Its a small area. If you like to read all plaques and signage, then give yourself 30-45 minutes. I wouldn't recommend bringing small children. They have a beautiful piano there that you're allowed to play.

This is a lovely museum to visit in downtown Austin. The tour guides are so knowledgeable and very eager to answer questions about the house, its history, and O. Henry's life. The home is well maintained, inviting, and cozy. You will really feel the history the second you step inside. It's a small house but has a lot of offer. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.

I went here as a kid with my sister when I was 12-13. And it was an amazing trip. Me and my sister had been reading O. Henry for at least 9 weeks on and off. To see this museum/home was an amazing. I strongly recommend to anyone that enjoys history and or literature. The caretaker/curator was amazing!

It's a new place. Some artists have their private studio. There are co-working spaces. Artists share an office, eating room, and photo studio. The staff are kind. The main gallery and some galleries inside. The exhibition in the main gallery is brilliant all the time. Love it

The website for 2021 Studio Tour is poorly designed, difficult to navigate and also the Artist Registry search function does not seem to work at all. I am writing this as a person seeking out art and their clunky tool makes it difficult. Further, if I was an Artist on this year's tour and there were any fees paid to Big Medium, I would 100% ask for a refund. So much great art in Austin, but creation & management of this website is not. good. at all.

Paid $175 in July to be part of Studio Tour. Have left voicemail and sent email to understand the process and timeline for selection. No one has replied. No ability to prepare given I still don't know whether I'm a part of the tour. Not okay when they take people's money.

Big Medium - the powerhouse of Austin art. They run the premier event of the year - twice. Third and fourth weekends in November, E.A.S.T. - East Austin Studio Tour; and the same in May for all the West Austin artists. We're talking hundreds of artists in every medium. Very dedicated and professional group, who find new artists and I've noticed a wider range of styles and mediums with more seriously high-end work. Throughout the year you check the weekly free Austin Chronicle every Thursday (also online of course, but holding the paper you get a richer experience, finding much more in this great if imperfect city). If you visit between November 24 and December 24, Blue Genie Art Bazaar, an old warehouse filled with accessible art and useful crafted items. Even I buy when I go, and on my income that's saying anyone can pick up a gift or two. Accessible: things regular people actually want to see in their homes, stuff that makes you smile, that you can easily afford. Often cheerfully colorful, some traditional paintings of things you can recognize, items mostly sized to fit in your (or your child's) UT dorm room, for that person who "has everything". I've lived here 32 years and when we came in 1989 went to the last studio tour by a group, 99 artists. We were hooked - art is a bright thread running through Austin life, tying it together. With the physical "alternative weekly" you're browsing, finding after Arts is Community, filled with local makers. Alongside artists you find local craft breweries, artisans, fairs and pop-up markets with the live music, local handmade and vintage you'll find nowhere else. Often benefitting local animal rescue groups, always fun. Then the Food section always has people and new food combos in it Micro-farms here in the city. Urban farms with fresh food harvested here on the east side vs. shipped thousands of miles from agribusiness, picked unripe so it'll last, who knows what sprayed on it. Here,just one is Boggy Creek farm, where a couple lives and works on a few acres and local people have the jobs. Yes, mission creep - you were looking for art. Start there with umbrella group Big Medium. Now add the artisans - to start we have fine furniture crafted of sustainable wood, as our east side mills look for trees that have come down locally. Local craft sawmills/woodworkers to go with our craft breweries, vintage dealers, musicians, writers, filmmakers; originality everywhere. The live music, street fairs, farmer's markets. that barbecue and wild profusion of every cuisine now crossing into new fusions, dozens of food trucks. Black's barbecue is good, easy stop at food truck on South Lamar. On the east side, where a person gravitates for art, drink, food, live music and the "Keep Austin Weird vibe, there's Kinda Tropical, for relaxing in a backyard with good drinks and food, music enlivening & soothing at once, mellow place anyone can feel welcome. Wait till I go to an eating place again & at least food will be the topic du jour. Just replaced my Explorer - with a bigger Ford truck of course, this is Texas! And paid home insurance, bought solar/crank/battery flashlights for next power outage. So next month I'll be back out, and we'll explore more of Austin.

Wonderful, Small-but-Ambitious Arts Non-Profit that puts together wildly-popular WEST Austin and EAST Austin Studio Tour. They're also the primary force behind Texas Biennial 2013. There studios, office and gallery are located at the Bolm Address; however, they will be moving their office and gallery to the project space, Canopy Office.

A nonprofit organization responsible for the East Austin Studio Tour, West Austin Studio Tour, and Texas Biennial. An amazing team of people who've elevate the Austin visual arts scene immeasurablely.

They Treat Artists Like Garbage If you're wondering in what ways Austin is becoming a worse city, here's an example of the type of people currently moving here that are making it that way. Initially I had positive experience with them regarding using the space for an art event. I had spoken to the Communications Director via email about setting up a time to meet to look at the space. A time to meet was agreed upon and when I arrived they weren't at the gallery. Other people who ran the gallery said that she was running errands and gave me this person's phone number and when I called her she ignored me and never responded back. The owner was there and was nice enough to show me around, but told me to contact the Communications Director about setting up the deposit, date, etc. Which was a red flag since she was clearly becoming a roadblock to this process. I sent multiple messages over Instagram and email only to get a response over a week later with the Communications Director apologizing to me saying she was too busy with the Studio Tour and asking what date I wanted to reserve with a bunch of seemingly accurate rental information in. I responded immediately to tell her which date we wanted in January. It is now January (2 months since the last communication) at the time of writing this and I still have not received a response. Cloud Tree is kindling a business model which revolves around ghosting people and wasting their time as a method of handling an artist they have second thoughts about, instead of telling them "no." It was totally unacceptable how the Communications Director acted. If you care about artists and the concept of common courtesy, don't spend money here and let this place financially starve.

Philip Trussell has been a truly remarkable & humble artist. He went to Yale where he earned his MFA. Then he taught art for some years. He has been a great mentor to some truly talented people. He is truly brilliant & has published a small book of poetry. Feel free to visit & see his work through June 18th.

I visited during East Austin Studio Tour weekend and was invited in to explore the studio spaces, chat with the artists - and made to feel totally at home. Huge fan of BDJs gorgeous woodwork.

Anchored by Brian Johnson's BDJ Craft Works, this intimate gallery space is perfect for finding affordable, hand crafted artwork, jewelry, and wood works. Hard to escape without buying something - we'd bet this place / these artists will only get more popular. Brian will even show you the wood shop if you're up for it. Definitive (East) Austin.

Authentic experience with talented artists

Visited on a grey day with perfect temps, and it turned out to be a really pleasant experience. The garden isn’t huge, but it’s packed with beautiful native Texas flowers and well-maintained trails. It’s definitely a great spot if you’re looking for a peaceful stroll and want to soak in some natural beauty without needing to spend hours wandering. The facilities are nice—clean restrooms, shaded areas, and a solid little café. It’s very family-friendly too. That said, if you’re a hardcore botanical garden enthusiast, there are more expansive and diverse gardens in the area (like the one down in San Antonio), but Lady Bird is still worth a visit, especially for a laid-back day in Austin.

Visited on 8/3/2025 — Free parking was nice, but the $36 entry fee for two adults felt a bit steep for what’s offered. It’s a peaceful, nature-filled spot great for a one-time visit if you enjoy flowers, plants, and walking trails. The moving dinosaur statues were a fun surprise, especially for kids, but there’s no major “wow” factor overall. It’s a simple, calm place . There is lot of place inside wood you can side peacefully — not overly exciting, but worth seeing at least once. Hopefully they’ll add more interactive or engaging activities in the future.

BUT!… I was here 14mo ago and this place was alive with wildlife, families and great staff. I visited today and staff is still nice BUT they’ve turned into a daycare center with hundreds of kids playing kickball and off the trails. (It’s a school day?) There is far better available for free, I probably won’t be back. Kinda sad, Austin has great playgrounds.

What a beautiful, serene place! So many different areas and trails to enjoy. Everything is well marked and easy to navigate with well maintained trails, water fountains and restrooms. Lots of benches! It has a wonderful family area for kids to play, but plenty of quiet paths and gardens if you seek only the sounds of song birds and wind chimes. Austin is very fortunate to have this little piece of heaven in the city and I hope we continue to protect it.

This was a lovely visit to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. There were many beautiful structures and plants. I loved the diverse cactus and succulent population. It was interesting that they mixed dinosaurs with flowers. The tower was my favorite part and the gift shop had a lot of cool stuff.

This place is extremely beautiful. The architecture and gardens are authentic to Texas. The entire property and its many trails are maintained. One issue was parking, and if you plan to come over on a break or weekend, you can spend 10 minutes parking. If you have kids, come on the weekend but if you don't like kids I would suggest coming during the week. This place has a cute cafe, a themed shop, and many activities to do. I loved hearing the windchimes throughout, which sounded wonderful and added to the atmosphere. Overall, it was a splendid experience and activity with the warm weather.

Lovely park. We went to the dinosaur event on an weekend. Awesome. Our son loved the dinosaur with life-like moving that made sounds. Especially the best time is to see the whole plants and flowers are flourishing.

I attended the Ron White fundraiser show for the Texas flood victims. This was my first time to attend a show at the Paramount. I easily parked at a nearby parking garage for a small fee and walked to the venue. I loved the interior of the theater and its old-school feeling and would have liked to have taken a few pictures to share here, but phones were sealed upon entry for this particular show. There were quite a few people there to assist people in getting to their seats. They were so friendly and helpful! The seats were clean and comfortable and we could easily see, hear, and understand the comedians. They sell candy and various types of drinks. I have to say they mix up a pretty mean Old Fashioned! It's my understanding that the Paramount donated the venue as part of the fundraiser. If true, what a nice gesture. Regardless, it was a great evening in a great venue. I would definitely enjoy coming back for more shows.

I took my kids to see Look both Ways: Tales of block Ten - Family Series of the theatre. It was a real treat to watch, the kids enjoyed themselves alot! The parking was optional, yes the theatre provided an option also which was really appreciated! I signed up for emails to keep informed about adventure that Paramount has to offer.

We went here to watch the Selena movie and got three slices of pizza before the movie because we came here early and stood in a line. The movie theater experience is amazing and they also had a band play in the beginning. The interior is like you're watching a movie in the 1800s because of the beautiful decorations and having two stories we were on the second floor

I absolutely love the Paramount theater, it is amazing! If you haven't been there you should definitely go. I'm sure it won't be long before it's bulldozed and a high-rise goes up due to City of Austin officials not protecting this gem and continue to sell the soul of Austin for their own personal gains. Two complaints; restrooms are absolutely disgusting. Urine all over the floor almost every time I've ever gone. Urine then gets on one's shoes, boots or macuskins then transfers to the carpet throughout. Staff is disruptive and interrupts show with their flash lights constantly checking people's seats through out entire show or performance. I wish staff would take the time to verify people's seats prior to shows beginning rather than just socializing. Hands down one of the best places! This old girl deserves better and needs to be treated with respect and dignity. Different set of discerning eyes need to be added to ensure long term well being of this Austin gem.

Amazing that a theater like this is still around. It’s older but the seats were still wide enough that I was comfortable even as a plus size person. Great acoustics, and there’s awesome food spots nearby. I had a great conversation with the ushers while people were coming in. They volunteer and they were all super friendly, had a very organized system to get people to their seats. I had a blast.

I have a thing for traditional theatre buildings. This is a wonderful example of classical revival style architecture. A great location and decent parking options nearby, (especially on a Sunday evening.)

Good locka spot that shows various shows for theater and the film fest SXSW and AFF. Also does lots of stand up and theater performances. It's a neat spot and just know that it's an older place so the chairs and leg room is less than more modern places.

Went on a date to Wonderspaces a few weeks ago. My partner had been before and noticed there are far less exhibits than the previous time he went. Though I enjoyed my time, I agreed it was a bit underwhelming. The exhibits list the name of the piece and the artist, however there is no description or backstory on the piece or way to learn more about the artist. As an artist, I believe this is necessary at any Art exhibition. Nonetheless, we had a decent enough time. I hope more exhibits are added to fill up the extensive void that currently resides in Wonderspaces.

Was a great place, parking was easy, the interaction was awesome with the staff, they were very accommodating. Had one guide Eduardo, he took us and several of their groups around the exhibits and gave us tons of insights of the artists and the exhibits, great guide. I would definitely check this place out if you have the chance. It’s worth the price, no rush spent nearly 2 hours there, and if you get the chance do the self portrait, it’s really fun.

Really interesting place. I would describe it as an interactive art gallery. Arrived on a Friday early evening, and it was almost empty, so we had a lot of time to really experience the artwork. I found myself leaving one piece and coming back. Small minor grip, they should really keep up with the art pieces. Some things looked a bit rundown. They should also do a better job at cleaning and maintaining the place. One of the bathroom stalls doesn't lock. On one of the benches, we sat in gum. The front staff were friendly.

This was an enjoyable experience, especially for the price. I went with a friend and it was very quiet. They were closing an hour early on our visit day, but we still have enough time {with an hour} to see everything!

I saw the reviews and pictures and really wanted to check this place out as it seemed like an immersive art experience. I want to start by saying no hate to the place or the artists but it was not at all what I was expecting. It was very short lived. We were done with all the rooms in about 10 minutes tops. You can definitely take it longer and stretch it to about 20 minutes but honestly I’m not sure how. They do have a bar there so I guess you can sip and walk hopefully forget about time lol. Anyway, it’s not a kid friendly place, I’m talking 10 and younger, although my kids did “enjoy” it, they were bored majority of the rooms or “scared” and that didnt blow over well. Also, I found it a bit boring myself, outside of the lights from when you first enter, everything else was very quick and uninteresting. You can for sure catch some Instagram worthy pics and videos so if that’s what you’re going for then this is your place. Overall, I would not recommend unless you have absolutely nothing else better to do but even then the price is pretty steep at ~28+ per person.

We came to Wonderspaces when it first opened and it was amazing! Lots of exhibits! This time was not like before. Only a couple of new exhibits and alot gone or scarce. Hoping for more if we come again. We are immersive art connoisseurs!

Its a small building but has so much and is worth the money! It has a lot of interactive art as well and not just something to watch. A lot of the exhibits were really enjoyable! The staff was also really kind and helped keep the space really well kept :)

From the moment I entered, I was surrounded by shelves packed with toys I hadn’t seen in years—action figures, classic board games, vintage dolls, and even the same building blocks I used to spend hours playing with as a kid. It wasn’t just the toys themselves that made the experience so special—it was the feeling. The familiar colors, the sounds, the little trinkets I’d forgotten I even loved… everything brought back warm memories of growing up. I caught myself smiling just looking at things I once treasured and thought I’d never see again. The store was well-organized, and the staff were incredibly friendly, clearly passionate about what they do. They didn’t just sell toys—they shared stories and memories with customers, making it feel more like a community than a business. This store isn’t just for kids—it’s for anyone who wants to reconnect with a simpler time. Whether you’re looking for something nostalgic or hoping to introduce the next generation to the magic of the classics, this place is a gem. I left with a few small items, but more importantly, I left with a full heart.

Texas Toy Museum and Arcade ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A nostalgic exhibit filled with toys from the ’80s and ’90s, plus retro video games you can play for free with your entry fee! There are also three pinball machines and plenty of fun memories waiting to be rediscovered. Bathrooms are available, and they sell cold beverages — a nice touch for a quick break while you play.

Definitely worth dropping in here when you're in Austin next. It was like a trip down memory lane. Such a good collection of toys, consoles and arcade machines. You can even play the machines and pinballs for free!

The location sits in the heart of downtown Austin. Paid parking lot is right next door. It was about $6/hr. This place is a gem and a great idea for kids or adults. The kids will love learning how to play old video games and arcades. They have Super Nintendo, sega genesis, Nintendo 64, pin ball machines, a ton of older toys which makes you as an adult feel like a kid again. They even have a scavenger hunt! Bathrooms are available and you can bring your drinks inside. You can literally stay until they close. It’s $17 for adults and $11 for kids.

The name doesn't do it justice. This is not only a vast collection of toys and merchandise, but also a great assortment of original film props, production sketches, and signed memorabilia. Plus many playable console games. A must see for any collector/enthusiast!

This Toy Museum and Arcade is such a wonderful trip down memory lane. From GI Joe and Transformers to TNMT and Voltron, they had toys representing all the best parts of my childhood. This isn't a museum where you're going to learn about the toys or the marketing or the businesses behind them, but that doesn't detract one little bit form the enjoyment me and my friends received walking through and looking at the great collection. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They answered any question we had and seemed happy to do so. Our stay was made even more fun with a scavenger hunt! I'll be stopping by for another go through the next time I'm in the Austin area and I'd recomend just about anybody that had a childhood and ever held a toy, to come by and see this place. Worth every penny and more!

Love the variety of items on sale. Have enjoyed art exhibits and festivals there many times. Love the historical museum. One of my favorite places to visit! Highly recommend.

Saturday was the only day I had to get those little items for everybody when you're travelling plus a few post cards (I know, who mails post cards any more? Apparently, I do). There was a parade in downtown Austin on 6th, I think, and a block on either side was also blocked off. So all of the parking up from the parade (and not being a local, I didn't know how to get around it), was full. I drove up and around and found a truck pulling out of a shady spot (wow!) and took that. I was getting ready to walk to the nearest spot where I could get local touristy stuff when I looked in front of me. There she was, the Old Bakery and Emporium and there was something that said 'local artisans'. I went inside and they had everything! I could have purchased one of the amazing quilts, or some of the earrings. I was hard-pressed not to purchase one of the beautiful mugs or a hand-made handbag. Pricing was reasonable in my opinion. I walked around and enjoyed the stories of the bakery and some lovely antique pieces (including the oven). After much thought I walked away with a wall hanging and two fridge magnets, all mosaic made with stained glass by a local artist. Such quality work! And, of course, postcards. Next time I'm in Austin I will definitely return and highly suggest you check it out if you have a chance to!

When you walk in, you are greeted with a smile. The two ladies that was there today was AWESOME! They were nice enough to give me a brief but detailed overview of the history of the Dickinson house. The quilt on the bed is what I found to be so amazing, as it is signed but all the living descendants of the survivors of the Alamo. If you get the chance please go check it out.

I really wanted to reach out to the docent who met me. I'm the Asian visitor with the bee motif fingernails. After I went to explore the room with the quilts another set of guests came in. And there was some sort of verbal commotion. I didn't hear why the other guests were so offended. As the only not White person in the building nothing inappropriate was said when I met the docent on 6/14/23. I gathered the other guest drew offence at the term enslaved. I lived in Savannah GA and that is the historical terminology our plantations are using in Savannah and Charleston. There was nothing but respect and joyfulness presented to me and I hated that her day had taken that turn with the next guest. There is a huge difference in labeling someone a slave and referencing their imposed condition of being enslaved.

Alyssa was very friendly and a wealth of knowledge about Texas, the geography and history, and even knew about old European flags! (two of the six that have flew over Texas in the past). They have a few cool old maps of the region. A very enjoyable experience

Street parking is $1.20 per hour. I stayed for two. I was quite happy because not only is this Museum free, the O. HENRY or Sydney Porter museum is next door to this Museum. So you get visit two amazing museums. The docents or workers are very polite. The quality of the homes are beautifully maintain. Both museums / homes have central air condition and heating systems that was a plus. My children truly enjoyed their visit. My husband who is not a museum visiting type but, was intrigued by all the information and structure of the home. There is a small Library in the home. There, I read the David Crockett comic story to the children and they loved it. They are many other books as well in regards to the Texas history.

Tacos are premade, and I give them a 6.2/10. Flavor of the meat was average, although they were a bit dry. Size of tacos was perfect. The only thing keeping this from a dead-average 5/10 rating was the salsa. Green salsa was really great. It was spicy with good flavor. The red was also good. I feel the salsa should add to an already flavorful taco. This was not that.

Owner is super niece and she will tell you all about the history of Austin and Hispanic culture in the city if you ask about it.

The breakfast tacos here were recommended by a local and they didn't disappoint. They are the traditional style tacos (I had bacon & egg and bacon & potato), and the price just cannot be beat. If you like things spicy, ask for the hot sauce. Hidden gem for breakfast!! $1.40 for one breakfast taco. Tasty and not too small. I had three breakfast tacos and my wife had two. They were tasty and filling. A great gallery and a great event! Artists put their hearts and talents to work creating art hearts for the benefit silent auction! So many wonderful expression for what a heart can be!

They cheat on the auctions. I've seen it not once, but twice. Sad too because I have been in Austin forever and used to think this place was cool. There are other art venues that are stand up but not here...

This is a very nice gallery and the people here are super nice but I don't know what all the hype is about for the tacos. The only good thing about them is they are cheap. I had chorizo y papá and chorizo y huevo and i thought they were dry

Hands down, the best place to go for some good cheap $2 tacos! It helped that my hotel, the JW Marriot, was literally right around the corner. I came here 3 days in a row. It was definitely worth trudging through a couple rainy mornings. I tried the Chorizo & Egg, which was by far my favorite. It had plenty of flavor and eating two of those filled me up. I also tried the Egg & Cheese and the Sausage & Egg, which just weren't quite as good. The sausage seemed a little too tough to chew. The owners of this fine establishment were very nice and will talk to you if you have the time. Of course, you will probably need to get out of the way constantly because so many locals come through. They also have art showings which I did not have the chance to check out but it's just another neat little thing they do for this town. I will be back again if my job leads me near!

I absolutely loved my time at this museum! The owners/tour guides are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, I could listen to them talk about anything! While I found the Museum of the Weird to be hokey, this museum was fascinating and thought provoking. It really gave me a historical insight while also entertaining me with some more immediately striking objects. If you're looking for a truly unique experience that you'll find nowhere else, this is a must-visit! I cannot recommend it highly enough! Be prepared to interact and ask questions for an immersive and eye-opening tour.

I have been wanting to visit for quite some time, but my schedule didn't allow it. Finally, I was free at the proper time. I took my friend Thor, who I knew would appreciate it. This is a great ongoing family project that is as much about community engagement as it is curiosity and history of collection and curation. Intimate scale.

Great fun! Quite a few folks who attended were from out of town and wanted to experience some of our "weirdness", so they weren't disappointed. The museum is definitely weird. I recommend this place.

Pumpkin Nights was so fun! I loved walking through all the pumpkin lights. Everything, and I mean everything, is made from pumpkins! It’s very impressive. There are a handful of local shop booths to shop from. They have food and basic alcohol options/non alcoholic. I got the kettle corn because I’m a sucker for kettle corn and it was delicious. I also got the giant corn dog and it was okay, I wanted it to be better because it said hand dipped. The fire show was impressive. I recommend getting there 15 minutes before it starts to get a good view. Mind you, I went during the week, which I recommend for much less crowds. There is a staff member near various spots to help take pictures which is so helpful and much appreciated! They also had an artist carving pumpkins and she was phenomenal and very friendly. Overall, a lovely experience! They also have a small haunted house, which I did not go in, but it does cost to go into. I saw kids going in, so I would say it’s not too scary. They have SO many photo opportunities and a couple of activities by the different lights. They have themes you walk through. My favorite was the underwater where you could draw on yourself with a marker that would light up because of all the black light. Fun stuff for the kids to do as well like a sandbox and seesaws! Definitely worth bringing the family! Your shoes will get very dusty, so I recommend shoes you aren’t too worried about getting dusty. Lots of walking. At the end, make sure to check out the local vintage shop.

Pumpkin Nights was a great experience! Everyone must go once to experience it. However, the price for admission was a tad too much for a family of 4. Then, add a $10 parking fee. Vendors were as expected, like $12 for cotton candy. Wear good walking shoes. Bring plenty of cash.

Really cool place!! I'm fairly certain I came here as a kid... I have vague memories of visiting such a place. It's pretty cool to walk around and experience life back then. Definitely wear comfortable shoes and if it's in the warmer months bring a water bottle or purchase on in the gift shop before setting out on your tour. My son is Homeschooled and we are actually studying Pioneers & Pilgrims, so this was perfect for letting him see/experience what life was like all those years ago. The staff are super nice & welcoming. You can purchase tickets online or in person in the gift shop.

My fiancé and I had an absolute blast at pumpkin nights! This family friendly event had VIP tickets available that included a VR experience and a walk-through haunted house. We also got free, popcorn and free cotton candy. The fire show was really impressive and the staff here is great. Be sure to get your tickets and tell them Medina sent you.

pumpkin nights was amazing! the fire show was fun, cotton candy was delicious, haunted house was really detailed with cool animatronics, and the trail was soooo beautiful it genuinely surprised me. and there’s see saws!!! 10/10 lots of amazing photo ops

My kids had a great time. We went for homeschool day and I expected more actors to be around and on the different farms. The actors there for the most part did a fantastic job and answered the kids questions and demonstrating life on the farm in the 1800s. We did end up walking through the pumpkin nights stuff with trails not well marked on where to go. Overall it was an okay experience and the few farms open with actors made it nice. Wish there was more actors around and better signage of places to go.

Fascinating, sprawling set of buildings from the setler period of Austin. Among several preserved homes they also have a dance hall, blacksmith, church, carriage house, gazebo, out houses, a smoke house, a cellar, and a gift shop. This property also hosts special events around Halloween and other occasions. I visited as the location participated in Austin museum day and was preparing for an amazing Halloween. There is a large free parking lot, though it can fill up.

Excellent gallery with interesting art that rotates often. The people are friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Awesome events, classes and talks for artists and aspiring artists. A fun place with sense of community. Wonderful! Thank you all for what you do. Jefferson, who coordinates the events does a great job and I look forward to going back for the resources offered here.

A true gem. This venue offers a very pleasant place for events. Close to great options for dining and leisurely strolls. Saw Acute Inflections here. A unique blend of jazz and Caribbean flavored music. The duet is from Brooklyn/Queens NY and play off of each other in a beautiful way.

150 seat theater with basic sound and light. Friendly staff.

I recently took an adult beginners acrylic painting class. I enjoyed the class but a few things to keep in mind - parking absolutely sucks. My class didn't start until 6 pm and I usually arrived about 40 mins early but there just isn't enough parking. I parked on the side at a meter and just waited until the free time kicked in (or if it was too hot and I didn't to wait in my car I would just risk it). Also, even though it was specifically a BEGINNERS painting class everyone in the class had either been to multiple classes before and knew most of the people there or were already pretty knowledgeable on their own. Some of the people in the class were even getting paid to do commissions as a side gig. That's not a beginner, for F's sake. So that part sucked a bit, as I was the only true beginner in the class. I'll be honest, that did make it a little bit more difficult since concepts weren't explained as thoroughly as they would have been with real beginners. Idk how you would filter that kind of thing but people... Please don't sign up for the beginner course if you're not really a beginner. A lot of times I would go home and watch YouTube vid afterwards to really understand what was going on because again, I'M A BEGINNER.

Another one star review for the adult classes. I had a really bad experience here and when I started talking to others about it I found out I wasn’t the only one. The ceramics program is poorly run, the rules aren’t clear, the teachers are pretty hands off, and the staff is catty. Once I was told I had a ‘behavior infraction’ on my record and not only was I not allowed to return but all of my work was taken by one of the higher ups and I was told it wouldn’t be returned until I talked to them about what I did… which I never found out what that was. I have talked to two other adults who have had this happen (one in tears) and one teacher who quit. I dropped my second class and wasn’t even refunded all of my money. Don’t waste your time with these creepy people, there are other places to take ceramics.

As a visitor to Austin, this was a fun little gallery that clearly punched above its budget. Excellent display area with nicely curated shows. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Easy parking, washroom and fully accessible.
