1Tumble 22 - Texas Chicken Joint

Chicken restaurant
Restaurant
Tumble 22 is a vibrant spot known for its Nashville-style hot chicken and happy-hour deals. This Texas chicken joint has gained popularity in Austin's fried chicken sandwich scene, offering perfectly fried, spicy-dipped chicken that can be enjoyed in sandwiches or on its own. With multiple locations across the greater Austin area, Tumble 22 has expanded from a single trailer to several outlets. The restaurant understands the balance of spice and acid crucial to great Hot Chicken.
My first time visiting Austin and we were famished and this restaurant left an outstanding first impression for the city and what dining experiences they are capable of. Parking was a little hard since the lot was really small, but we managed. They offered indoor or outdoor seating, but opted for indoor since it was blazing hot outside. We were immediately greeted with a delicious looking pie shelve, which we had to try, and the menus were QR code accessible, heads up. Our server was extremely friendly and present and the food was top notch! We started with the dirty fries and they were saucey, chicken was plentiful, and overall a welcome appetizer. The chicken sandwiches were deliciously crisp, flavorful and plump. My boyfriend got the no spice chicken whereas I got the hot chicken, and they know how to spice and prepare the seasonings to make it phenomenal. I did enjoy the hot spice level better than the no spice. Even my son’s chicken strips were juicy and he destroyed them too! Sides do not come with the meals, but it’s okay, the sides were worth the cost for how delicious they were. The broccoli salad was crunchy, delicious in the salad dressing and a good portion. The fries were crunchy, oily, bad for you tasty too! We even got dessert at the end, we were tempted, and we got the pecan chocolate toffee pie. It was super sweet, perfect for sharing as a few bites will satisfy that sweet tooth craving, unless you’re a big sweet tooth eater. Nevertheless, the pie was one of the best I’ve ever had due to its unique twist on a traditional pecan pie. Will definitely be back and wanting to try their rotating seasonal items next time. Thank you guys for the great first impression on what Austin has to offer.

Finally got to try Tumble22 after hearing all the hype from my friends, and I have to say—it’s absolutely worth it! I went for their chicken burger and ordered the highest level of spiciness, and it did not disappoint. The flavor was bold, the heat was intense yet enjoyable, and overall, it was a super satisfying meal. I also tried their dirty fries on the side, and they were a pleasant surprise. The chicken toppings added a unique twist that I hadn’t seen before, making them even more delicious. The outdoor patio was a great spot to enjoy the meal, and the overall vibe of the restaurant had a true Texan feel to it, adding to the experience. Definitely a place I’d visit again for some amazing spicy chicken!

This place never disappoints, hands down the best Nashville fried chicken in Austin! The flavor is always amazing perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and the spice level is just right. Every time I eat here, it hits the spot. On top of that, the staff is always nice and friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, you’ll leave happy and satisfied. Highly recommend!

I ordered the OG chicken sandwich… DANG HOT style. And it was hot! I love spicy and this spice level hit the spot. I asked for a popular side and got the Mac & Cheese. YUMMY!!! Cheese was sooo gooey. Thia place is busy but service is quick and impeccable. Parking is small but there’s more across the street. Highly recommend for a quick bite with friends, family, or casual date night.

I was excited to try this food, I was excited when I sat down and after I received the food; things just seemed weird. In vacation, first time here. I recommend going when the sun goes down so you can see the lights. Very pretty and gives great ambiance. They have inside and outdoor seating. The inside is cold, they do have fans on if you sit outside in the heat. This is a family friendly restaurant. They do offer alcoholic beverages and regular drinks. The drinks were not expensive, and neither was the food. I think I spent right around $35-$40 for two meals including drinks. You have to use your phone to get the menu. We ordered tenders and bone in. First thing I noticed was there wasn’t ANY hot sauce bottles on any table only ketchup. Thought this was weird for a fried chicken place in any part of Texas. There is a spice level for the chicken, it kind of reminds me of the Nashville hot chicken. It’s like a seasoning rub that’s used so the chicken isn’t wet in a sauce. The sauces actually comes on the side. However, they did have a hot honey which was tasty but didn’t give the hot sauce type of hot I was looking for. Eating the chicken I noticed the skin was thick and not cooked fully because it was still kind of wet and sticky under the outside coating. The wet sticky part could be felt on the actual chicken. The chicken was just barely done on the inside. I couldn’t eat it as I liked to. Of course I couldn’t have asked for fried hard but the way it initially looked, I thought it was fried hard. The chicken texture seemed in between rubbery and 2 seconds done after it being raw. Hard to explain in this fashion of explaining. I was ok enough to pick over it and eat the pieces I liked. The tenders were fried to perfection. No Nashville hot seasoning just regularly fried. The pickles that come on the chicken is sweet. They gave options of dipping sauces. After we ate, I watched a guy ( long blonde hair, not sure of name as he wasn’t my waiter) he was an Employee, he made me feel super uncomfortable with his actions that I was EAGER to leave this establishment. We are sitting on the inside to the right, which is in the shape of a square. There is me and 3 other tables with people there. This employee checks on his tables outside near us about every 3-5 minutes. So much that I start making eye contact and slightly raising hand to get assistance. He never stopped. As he’s coming from outside checking in his tables he comes inside as he has one table inside. We are sitting in a L shape and my table was at the top of the L. He checks on the table right next to me, skips the table in the middle goes to the end table then makes his way back to the table in the middle table. As I’m waiting for my turn to be checked on he simply leaves and goes back into the kitchen. After about 5 minutes get up peak in the kitchen ( because it’s no door ) and ask if someone could get my check ready. My waiter is there chilling talking about apartments. My waiter only checked on us right after we got our food then never again. I’m not the same race as the neither employees yet the other tables all were. I could only feel mistreated so I hurried and paid then left as I didn’t feel welcomed and it showed. Especially if my child asked about this when I never said out loud how I was feeling. Could have been an oversight or could have not been. Instead of making it into something more I simply left. Probably won’t return. There is another location I seen off 35. Parking lot is a nice size where maybe 20 or so cars can fit

Tumble 22 has been my favorite place to go with friends for years I can't believe it took me this long to leave a review, but Magnolia's service made me realize how much it was needed! Not only was Magnolia one of the sweetest servers we've had in many years, the food was amazing as always. The fried chicken here reminds me of my great-grandmother's recipe and the sides are always stellar (11/10 recommend the dirty Mac). I love that you can choose your own spice level. The happy hour here is by far the best in Austin especially when you throw some Big Larry's into the mix. The pie is always the highlight of the night, and the pecan toffee/chocolate pie is easily the best I ever had. Shoutout to Magnolia for turning a bad day into a great one!

Stopped by for dinner a few weeks back, it was pretty late.. there was no host, but when we approached inside. Houston was perhaps the only one kind enough to help us get a seat.. we asked if he could be our server, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was the perfect balance of crispy, soft and juicy.. I believe my sandwich was called the triple threat. I removed the chorizo and replaced it with coleslaw, praying the coleslaw would be good.. and to my surprise, it was. It def, def over delivered.. we also got some butter cream dessert our server had suggested, but went straight into digging in when we got it, I forgot to get a picture. But c’mon.. tell me this doesn’t look amazee!!!

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is a long-standing chain known for its spicy fried chicken and comforting sides, all served in a casual atmosphere. Located in downtown Austin, this southern staple offers a variety of chicken options including white meat, dark meat, and tenders alongside delectable sides. Customers rave about the juicy and delicious chicken with a Memphis-style spicy flavor and perfect crust.
I’ve got a peanut allergy so I had to ask the chef about the peanut oil (refined oil is usually a green light)! Not only are the staff absolute sweethearts, but the food knocked it out of the park. The chicken had a thin batter was so oh so crispy and the chicken itself was very juicy. The beans and Mac and cheese are awesome! Fried okra (a first for us at the table) was a favorite. This spot has been around for a reason, love love love it.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is what I will dream about for the rest of my life. I'm not being funny when I tell you, emphatically, that Gus' fried chicken is the hands-down BEST friend chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens that I've ever had the joy of eating. The chicken is moist and spicy on the inside, and is perfectly crispy and thin on the outside. I could devour the creamy mac and cheese by the poundful. The Greens were perfect - perfectly cooked and well balanced between the salt, pork and greens flavors. I also tried the Fried Okra which was amazing. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a meal at Gus'! I would plan another trip back to Austin just to eat here again - I'm not kidding, it was THAT good!
Amanda M — Google review
If you're looking for some delicious fried chicken, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken in Downtown Austin is the perfect lunch spot! It's a small and simple shop with friendly staff, and they prepare your food quickly. We ordered the four-piece chicken meal, which included tender chicken, crispy French fries, and okra, along with a two-piece white chicken. Everything was fantastic! The breading on both the fried chicken and the chicken tenders was amazing, and both were cooked to perfection, leaving the chicken moist on the inside. The fried okra was nice and crispy, and the seasoned fries had a little kick to them. Overall, the flavors were incredible, and we highly recommend trying this place!
Victor J — Google review
The chicken didn’t look great at first but ended up tasting amazing—crispy skin and juicy inside. Fries were also really good. I didn’t like the coleslaw (too sweet). Service was fast and friendly. Great spot for flavorful fried chicken without heavy sauce.
Heather R — Google review
Ordered a 3 piece dark meal and it was delicious. Chicken was crispy and lightly spicy, proper moist and tender. Opted for m&c rather than slaw, which was on point, a little paprika on top of tender pasta with creamy balanced cheese sauce. The beans are good, nice counter to the other flavors on the plate. Why did i wait this long to go here?
Donovan L — Google review
Love this old school style restaurant. The fried chicken is amazing straight up. I didnt try the sauces at all, Gus's has four to choose from, the chicken has a dry rub kinda taste to it that is slightly spicy hot. Chicken is not overly breaded, a plus for me. Downtown Austin location with a pay for parking lot beside it. Only ordered the chicken to try, did not try any of the sides or desserts. Very cool 50's style dinner vibe to it. Staff is pleasant to communicate with and make sure your experience us a good one. Recommend this restaurant for fried chicken.
Dallas T — Google review
Chicken was very tender, very juicy and very very good. It was a bit smaller than what I thought it would be. But they do say all natural chicken. Now there is a kick. Obviously because it is hot and spicy fried Chicken. I think the only problem was when you finish all the chickens. The okra seems a little bland also the coleslaw. The store itself is very eclectic. The shop felt like a really old school ice cream pop kind of feel.
Kats F — Google review
The chicken is FANTASTIC, we will definitely be coming back! There is just a little spice to the batter and it is perfect! The corn nuggets and Mac and cheese were really yummy. The fries were okay, I prefer mine to be fried a little bit longer, still good. I was not a fan of the ranch but the honey mustard was good. The service was really fast even with every table being full and they were down a server. The staff was super friendly and it was a really good experience!

Lucy's Fried Chicken is a popular spot in Austin, known for its upscale take on Southern comfort food. The restaurant is housed in a refurbished old building and features oversized patios with great views of Lake Travis. With multiple locations across the city, Lucy's has been serving up Southern-fried favorites for over ten years. Guests can enjoy made-from-scratch sides and fresh cocktails, including their signature Front Porch Tea.
We had Lucy’s Fried Chicken cater our wedding, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice! The food was absolutely delicious—so many of our guests told us it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. The fried chicken, sides, and everything else were cooked to perfection. The service was also top-notch. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly, making sure everything went smoothly. They took care of the chair setup for the ceremony and the table settings, and it exceeded my expectations. They truly helped make our day memorable, and we’re so grateful for their hard work. We highly recommend Lucy’s Fried Chicken for any event!

I was super excited to come try this place. We started w/the oysters and the fried deviled eggs. They were okay. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and he said it was okay, but not the best he’s had. My daughter ordered the Chicken Caesar salad and really enjoyed it. Her boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak and l loved it. I had the chicken tenders and waffles. Personally for me the chicken lacked flavor and the waffles were pretty hard and dry, despite a beautiful presentation. We also ordered the S’Mores pie and banana pudding. The chocolate s’mores was way too sweet and rich for my taste, but my daughter and her boyfriend liked it. My hubby and I shared the banana pudding, it looked amazing and delicious, but it had no sweet taste at all. So one was too sweet and one lacked flavor. The overall atmosphere is nostalgic and tucked away from the busy street. Our server was excellent.

If you are ever in south Austin, stop in and eat at Lucy's Fried Chicken. It has a laid-back atmosphere and delicious food. We tried the deep-fried deviled eggs, chicken and waffles, and the drunk catfish sandwich. All were excellent choices. The catfish filet on the sandwich was enough for two sandwiches. It was seasoned perfectly and fried crisp. Chicken and waffles were a hit with delicious tenders and two great-tasting waffles with honey butter.
Mike H — Google review
Multiple items on the menu are amazing. I’ve come here a bunch of times before, but never left a review. Today I ordered the Kinky Club and I absolutely loved it. It’s a large sandwich with a side of kettle chips, which I switched for fries. I could only eat about half of the food, but I’m looking forward to finishing it up tomorrow for lunch.
Elizabeth F — Google review
This was our first timehere and Lucy's did not disappoint. I ordered the chicken and waffles and they were delicious. The waffles were the perfect amount of chewy and crunchy. The chicken was very flavorful. My other only wish is that I had some real maple syrup to go along with this culinary delight. Instead I received a packet of syrup sauce. I ate my waffles dry after my first bite with the sauce was disappointing. Still the meal was good. The cocktails were great and the service was awesome.

Order -Bucket of Chicken (3 out of 5) - chicken sandwich ( 5 out of 5) - onion rings ( 3 out 5 ) salty - fries (4 out 5) - cornbread ( 4.5 out 5) Service was good only the server dropped tea on me and did not apologize but besides that it was good. The bathroom was discussing pee everywhere and was nasty, making me want to throw up after eating there. The restaurant outside smells bad and needs to be cleaned, I guess for Austin is ok standards-wise, would I go back probably not. Even though they had a good pecan pie.
Mex P — Google review
We've been regulars at Lucy's for years now, it has never disappointed. If anything, it has gotten better. First of all, the chicken is phenomenal. The crust is just the right amount of crispy. We always get a bucket even if it is just the two of us. Cold or warmed up leftovers is just fine for us. We are true aficionados of the finest fried chicken. Now, that is just the beginning. Where Lucy's truly excels is in the side offerings. Of course they have a wonderful fried okra, but it's even better when it is paired with the coleslaw. Lastly, if you have any room left for dessert? Just do it. Remember, you can always take it home if you can't finish. Either way, you win!
K. R — Google review
Lucy’s catering did a phenomenal job at our October 2024 wedding!!! They handled all the setup and breakdown and did everything perfectly and with efficiency. Not to mention they are very competitively priced versus other full service caterers in the Austin area. Cristina was so sweet and easy to work with leading up to our day! She was extremely communicative and patient even when I had a million questions/ menu changes. Most importantly - the food was absolutely spectacular. People still make a point to tell us how amazing the food was and multiple professional chefs who were our guests told me it was “the best wedding food they’ve ever had.” The grilled vegetables were a stand out as well! My husband and I are both foodies but still wanted to honor our Texas roots at our wedding. They helped us craft a menu that was both upscale and true to us. Going to oyster bars and attending oyster tastings was a big part of our dating life and we really wanted to incorporate that at our wedding - which is ultimately why we went with Lucy’s. We had the raw oyster bar for cocktail hour and our guests adored it and we also heard multiple compliments about the shucker on staff. 10/10 highly recommend Lucy’s for your wedding or event!

Colleen's Kitchen is a charming eatery with a cozy atmosphere and sidewalk seating, offering Southern-fried favorites, craft cocktails, beer, and wine. They feature daily Family Meal Deals that can be pre-ordered, showcasing dishes like Gulf shrimp and Andouille sausage gumbo with white rice and banana pudding. The restaurant exudes a vibrant ambiance with bustling weekend brunches. The decor is described as calming and filled with natural sunlight.
Colleen’s in Mueller is a solid spot with good food and a comfortable atmosphere. The menu has a nice variety, and everything I tried was fresh and well-prepared. The service was friendly and efficient, and the space itself has a relaxed, modern feel. It’s a good choice for brunch, lunch, or dinner if you’re in the area. The cocktails are well-made, and the overall experience is enjoyable. I’d definitely come back.
Quentin S — Google review
I recently visited Colleen’s Restaurant in Austin, and overall, it was a great experience! The skillet cornbread was absolutely amazing — crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. The crab cake eggs Benedict were delicious as well, with perfectly cooked crab cakes and a rich hollandaise sauce. The Southern breakfast plate was good but didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The potatoes were fantastic, but the eggs, bacon, biscuit, and gravy lacked a bit of seasoning and flavor. The grits were good, though I'm just not a big fan of them in general. If you go, I highly recommend trying their signature dish: chicken and waffles. It was definitely a standout and worth ordering! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, which added to the overall positive experience. I would give Colleen’s a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Great food, great ambiance, and a wonderful place to enjoy a hearty meal in Austin!
Scott L — Google review
Colleen’s Restaurant is an absolute gem! The crab salad was unbelievably fresh and packed with flavor definitely a must-try. What made the experience even better was the beautiful area it’s located in. The weather was perfect, and sitting outside with a light breeze and great food made for the perfect afternoon. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and quality dishes we’ll definitely be coming back!

Stopped in on a trip through town and im so glad I did. Believe it or not it was chatgpt that suggested it so I had an idea of the type of food and atmosphere weeks before we left on the trip. Hubby had the chicken and waffles. Oh that sauce was insanely tasty. I had the grillades and grits. I've never had short ribs with grits before but a bite with everything in it was pure heaven. Service was great. 10/10 recommend and will come back again if we are in the area.

Had a great first time visit to Colleen's. Easy to make a lunch resy and I was 30 minutes earlier than my group and staff allowed me to be seated. Emma was an excellent serve. Sweet and prompt. Deviled eggs and crab cakes were excellent. Food was delivered well and overall stellar dining experience.

Quick trip to Austin so my better half, bonus daughter and her friend can catch a concert. What must eager concert do prior to the festivities? Eat. Duh. Are we going to stop at some dump? Absolutely not, I love food, especially the yummy kind. So after a little back and forth over choices to chow down we settled on this establishment. Vibe, on point a nice cozy setting to rest a weary soul. Waitstaff, accommodating (I do wish they suggested additional bread for the seafood fondue but ohh well. Appetizer, delectable. Main courses delicious. Eat here I highly recommend it. Just for reference we ate the seafood fondue, the pork, the fish, the short ribs, and the hamburger just get all of them. I don't think you can go wrong with the flavors or the menu. PS sorry for the crappy pictures

This is a cute place to dine. Service is impeccable. You absolutely MUST, I repeat, MUST try the pork chop. The sweet tea brine makes this dish mouth watering! 🤤 Get there quick!

Colleen’s did an Amazing job with lunch for our office today! The food is all scratch-made and next level Yum! We called & spoke with someone (John, I believe?) who was super friendly & helpful. All of the food was labeled & everything is so flavorful. Fried chicken is moist & delish, shrimp & grits, Mac & cheese and salads - all fresh & fabulous. Highest recommendation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fried chicken takeaway
Spicy Boys Fried Chicken is a food truck located in East Austin, offering a unique Pan-Asian fusion menu. The menu features items like chongqing chicken with numbing sichuan peppercorns, tots with togarashi and bonito, and a mapo chili dog made with mapo tofu. Customers can also enjoy Thai-inspired sandwiches, wings, and more for takeout or delivery. The level of spice can be customized to suit individual preferences.
Absolutely delicious fried chicken. Great small menu with variety of chicken options. I got spicy salad with chicken wings. It was absolutely amazing, the seasoning on chicken is very unique. It’s a bit spicy, but has a Smokey sweet almost cinnamon like flavor. So so good. Would come back. Really great that it’s at a brewery so you can grab a bite and drink to enjoy outside.
Polina G — Google review
Very cute spot by Zilker Brewery! I really enjoyed the fusion and found its various spice levels to be ranked appropriately (naturally, as a weakling, I picked nuggets with a spice level of 1). Staff seemed disinterested in answering questions about the menu, but the food was great! It's a very fun place everyone should try at least once. I would recommend the nuggets or the sandwich - the tots were a mixed bag for my party.

Oh my god, the best freaking fried chicken nuggets ive ever had in my life - and i try alot of food in Austin. So crunchy yet tender and heavily seasoned. Never tried anything with such bold flavors before. You have to try the classic boneless nuggets with spicy mayo. I got two orders cuz of how addicting it was. Not bad for the price too!
A ( — Google review
Yummy Asian fusion flavors! I literally drank the curry sauce. Papaya salad was ok but it helped balance out the whole meal. Outdoor seating and next to a brewery which allows you to eat inside and use their restrooms. Perfect for lunch or weekend hangouts.

Tasty high-quality, spicy fried chicken that pairs very well with the beer from Zilker brewery (right beside). Very friendly service too (Juan, I think, was very helpful).
Jorge R — Google review
Went on a Friday afternoon while grabbing beers at Zilker Brewing next door. The food was ready quickly, portions were large for the price, and everything was delicious. The seating area was nice so we didn’t have to compete with the brewery crowd while we ate. Highly recommend!
Judith T — Google review
We tried the Hot Gai sando, papaya salad, and roti + curry—and they did not disappoint. The chicken was the star dish: crispy, juicy, and tender. I would eat it without the buns if I could because it’s just banging. The papaya salad was light and refreshing. The roti was warm and crispy. We got the yellow curry, which I thought was too sweet. Overall, we would come back again when our fried chicken craving kicks in.
Phyllis T — Google review
Spicy Boys Fried Chicken is a food truck parked in the large open space in front of Zilker Brewing Company and Taproom. There are long picnic tables for dining, and they provide wet cloths to wipe your hands—which came in handy since their plastic fork was too weak to even pierce the chicken and melted from the heat. 5-Piece Fried Chicken ($10.99): Drums & thighs with classic seasoning, chili oil, sweet chili honey, crispy shallots, cilantro, and scallion. The chicken had too much batter, and the Thai flavors didn’t come through. It lacked the depth and aroma that would have elevated the chicken. Tingly Tots ($3.98): Sichuan-seasoned tater tots. These were surprisingly good! The seasoning was subtle, and the tots were perfectly crispy. I enjoyed these a lot more than the fried chicken. Tingly Sichuan & Spicy Ranch ($0.49): Whoa—the Sichuan really set my tongue on fire! It was flavorful, but be prepared for a lingering heat (and possibly a hot tummy later).

Southern restaurant (US)
Fixe Southern House is an upscale eatery located in downtown Austin, offering a chic dining experience with a focus on Southern cuisine. The restaurant is known for its creative seafood and steak options, as well as its standout dishes like the fried chicken sandwich and lobster and crawfish pot pie. However, what truly sets Fixe apart is its renowned biscuits, made with three kinds of butter and praised as some of the best in the city.
Delicious from the start! Dark ambience. Enjoyed the crispy potato beignets as an appetizer - wonderful! The biscuits (3 to an order) are fresh made to order. Biscuits came out hot and flaky with great nooks and crannies as the butter melted within. Lobster & Crawfish PotPie is rich and decadent - full of seafood! Beware, the "recommended" hot sause is an extra charge - we were not told that. Great experience, however!

This is a very nice restaurant with an elegant atmosphere. The décor is thoughtfully designed, making it a great spot for a special night out. The menu is on the smaller side, but I have to say—they served the best biscuits I’ve ever had in my life. Absolutely unforgettable. That said, most of the dishes lean toward indulgent comfort food—fried or high in fat. If that’s what you’re in the mood for, then you’ll be in heaven. Just don’t expect many healthy or lighter options. We came with a large group of 10 people, and every single person at the table raved about their meal. The food was undeniably delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back.

🍴 “Great Vibes, Amazing Biscuits, but a Few Misses” Went to Fixe Southern House in downtown Austin for a family gathering on a Friday night. If you’re looking for authentic southern food in Austin, this place has a lively atmosphere, though it’s very loud and a bit dark inside, with limited downtown parking. The buttermilk biscuits are a must-try—hot, fresh, and some of the best biscuits in Austin! We also tried the fried okra, trout dip, and spicy cauliflower; the trout dip was delicious, but the okra was tough and the rice cakes hard. My fried chicken was oily and tasted reheated, but the heritage pork chop and shrimp & grits were outstanding. Service was excellent, making this a solid spot for southern comfort food despite a few misses.
Ronald K — Google review
This cute wine bar is in an office building. We came here for happy hour with wine and appetizers. The service was friendly and attentive. The biscuits are on the secret menu and were piping hot, buttery and delicious! The deviled eggs were also rich and yummy. I would come back here to try some other food as well.
Diem A — Google review
The chicken fried ribeye was greasy and without any flavor. The gravy made it a little bit better. The fried chicken was flavored well. Very nice decor and layout, prices are close to reasonable. Some meal portions are bigger than others. Service was good.
Ron S — Google review
Excellent cocktails and appetizers. The happy hour pricing and portions are excellent. Service (Chris the bartender) was attentive and friendly. I prefered the appetizers (deviled eggs and pimento cheese) to the entree (chicken sandwich and fries which were a miss). The Bloody Mary and bourbon cocktail were both fabulous.
Maggie S — Google review
I do not like bread. I don’t eat bread. The biscuits were INCREDIBLE!! Flaky, a touch of salt, buttery perfection!! The pork chop was flawless. Don’t leave without trying the potato beignets!!!
TALRR — Google review
Absolute perfection. The food was phenomenal. Their famous biscuits were the perfect balance of buttery crisp outside with a cloud like interior. The potato beignets had just the right crunch, with a beautifully matched sauce. And the lobster and crawfish pie was absolutely filled with meat - it lived up to its name. Even the banana cocktail was ridiculous - perfect tart and sweet balance. The server could not have been sweeter or more professional. And even the decor made the place feel comfortable but interesting (remember to look up after you take your seat).

Hoover's Cooking is a renowned Southern kitchen in Austin, Texas, known for its signature dishes like chicken-fried steak, pork ribs, sandwiches, and sides. The restaurant's founder, Hoover Alexander, draws inspiration from his childhood experiences on a family farm in Utley, Texas to create a farm-to-table dining experience. With over 20 years of operation under its belt, Hoover's Cooking has become an institution in Austin's culinary scene.
Had a great experience at Hoovers after a UT game. Friendly staff with a great menu selection. Service was quick considering the circumstances. Group of four all said their meals were excellent. Great selection of sides. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable.

Wonderful food, have been coming here for years from time to time. Been a while however, since I don't live close to Austin anymore. I think it's kind of sad that they don't include a small basket of biscuits & corn muffins as complimentary table service, I suppose they would blame inflation. It hits us all, but these items are very cheap to produce. I would not let this stop me from going... it's just sad to see the little customer service perks go by the wayside. Meatloaf is marvelous, The greens (with cornbread) are my favorite plus the okra & tomatoes!! Also had peach cobbler pie to take home & it was wonderful. To go containers happily provided- plenty of food for 2 meals for me, at least.

Stopped in and had some honest food. There was no wait and the staff was pleasant. From the website. Hoover Alexander’s passion for food is rooted in Texas soil, inspired by his upbringing on a family farm in Utley. From freshly picked peas and melons to farm-raised meats, he grew up eating what is now called "farm-to-table." Thanks to strong relationships with local farmers, Hoover’s Cooking continues to bring fresh, high-quality ingredients to every plate, honoring the rich traditions of Texas cuisine.

I really wanted to love this place. It was my first time visiting Hoover's Cooking, and it was a special occasion—my father had flown in for his birthday. My sister picked the restaurant because she thought the family-owned feel would remind him of his favorite eatery back home. There were 12 of us, and we were able to reserve the private room, not the main dining area. On the positive side, it was easy to book the private room in person, and it was the perfect space for our gathering. They even let us decorate it, which was a nice touch. Mr. Hoover himself and the host (an older gentleman) were both incredibly kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. I would strongly recommend avoiding the restrooms. The food, which is the most important part, was a huge disappointment. My fish was beyond bland—ketchup only got me a third of the way through it. My father's fried chicken was flavorless, and my mother's yams and coleslaw weren't even edible. My little niece wouldn't touch her grilled cheese. I could go on, but let's just say it was our first and last time dining there. Adding to the poor experience, our two wait staff never smiled once and seemed truly unhappy to perform their duties of taking orders and bringing refills. I really wish we had a better experience because Mr. Hoover was a cool guy, and I am a strong supporter of black-owned businesses. In that spirit, I'd say try it for yourself; maybe our experience was an off night.

It has been a few years since I’ve had dinner at Hoovers, and I’m so glad I returned. The food is as delicious as always, with generous portions. Our server was super-friendly, and helpful. Plus, the prices are still very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. I’ll be back again soon.

Asian fusion restaurant
Loro Asian Smokehouse & Bar is a unique fusion of Asian smokehouse and Texas barbecue, located in South Austin. The restaurant boasts a rustic ambiance with ample indoor seating as well as a spacious outdoor patio adorned with hanging lanterns and swings.
Loro in South Austin is one of those rare spots that nails both flavor and atmosphere. The Asian smokehouse twist on Texas BBQ keeps every visit exciting. The chicken karaage is a must-order — perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired with just the right punch of seasoning. The brisket sandwich is equally memorable, with melt-in-your-mouth brisket and a balance of smoky, savory, and tangy flavors that make it hard to put down. Service here is all counter-style, and it works beautifully — quick, friendly, and efficient, even during busy stretches. The patio is one of the best in town: spacious, shaded, and perfect for enjoying Austin weather. Whether you’re gathering with friends, hosting a work happy hour, or having a family get-together, Loro has the space and vibe to make it easy. All in all, Loro delivers on every front — great food, great service, and a great setting.

The creativity behind these dishes are enhanced through their execution. The place has a fun and friendly vibe and they've designed it to handle crowds really well. I sat at the bar and ordered there. Tried their edamame, pork belly and brisket. Phenomenal! Taste, plating, ticket time, everything - it was awesome. They were PACKED and absolutely killing it. I don't think I'll be able to visit Austin again without making this mandatory stop! 👏
Davey S — Google review
Loro has been a favorite for many years - the frozen espresso is a refreshing, creamy start. Brisket and turkey are my go tos but the salmon with ponzu is light. The charred broccoli is unreal— crisp, smoky, spicy. The fusion of Asian and Texas BBQ is spot on, and if you visit at peak times, enjoy a cocktail while you wait in the yard and be sure to leave with a cookie “for later”…

Great dining experience. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating options. Fast, efficient service model. Tasty Asian fusion dishes. Recommended dishes: - Chicken Karaage - more like Korean style fried chicken, but was very tasty. - Arugula & Melon Salad - seemingly strange combination was surprisingly good. - Char Siew Pork Belly - tad sweet but bursting with flavor - Sesame Rice Noodles - was an excellent companion to balance out the strong flavors of the Char Siew

One of our favorite meals while in Austin. Setup is somewhat similar to a BBQ place where you seat yourself and order for yourself at the bar. Non-alcoholic drinks were very good. The BBQ was amazing. Loved it all.

We just happened upon Loro at Happy Hour and boy were we impressed with the happy hour specials. Pulled pork sliders, wings, salads and drinks for four guys and cost was less than $80 including tip. Can't beat that happy hour deals for $5...food was delicious and bartender was super informative. We enjoyed the day out in the deck and really enjoyed the experience. Would gladly do so again next time I'm in town

Loro is an Austin staple when you are looking for a spin on smoked meats. I love the Asian inspired flavors. My partner and I came hungry, so we over ordered. The seaweed salad came last, and it was too saucy. We also got the shrimp rice bowl which was excellent and the perfect portion. We ended up taking this whole dish to go. The star of the night was the sake smoked half chicken and karrage. The smoked chicken was soooo delicious. It was so moist, perfectly seasoned, and was accompanied by lettuce and herbs to make lettuce wraps. The karrage is a generous portion and really good. The sesame noodles were excellent as well. We left there super happy. The staff is very kind and attentive for being counter service. We went around 6:30pm on a Saturday. We were able to seat ourselves before the host set up kicked in. It was continuously busy all night. It is loud and dark in the inside.

Finally tried Loro for the first time this weekend after having it on our list for a while. Overall we had a great experience. Really liked the casual vibe and the large amount of outdoor seating. Top Notch Hamburgers is a beloved Austin establishment that has been serving up classic American fare since 1971. This retro burger joint offers old-school hamburgers, hand-battered onion rings, tater tots, and milkshakes in a vintage setting with car-hop stalls and charcoal grills. The menu is simple but satisfying, featuring southern-style comfort food like crispy fried chicken alongside the iconic burgers and sandwiches.
The place is very local, is not fancy burger but is a well done burger. I order the jalapeño burger and it was really good and as a Mexican I felt the spicy in every bite. I recommend to people to come here if just want a casual burger experience with yourself or many your travel partner.

I have lived in Austin all my life, watched Dazed and Confused, but have never eaten here. I was in the area today and figured I would give it a try. The burger was good, but nothing special. I make way better. I did like the onion rings and fries. The customer service was really good.
StorminNorminO — Google review
As a native “north of the river” Austinite, I’ve had many Top Notch meals over the years. Nothing fancy just consistently good with shakes that taste like the strawberries were just picked that day to be churned into ice cream. Tonight, same food, but I sat in their hickory/bbq sauce on my seat…yuck! Yes, I should have looked but I was busy chatting with the rest of my party. I’m sure I’ll be back… but fyi, watch where you sit

Fantastic charcoal grilled burger. Chocolate malt was perfect. Beer battered onion to wings were also great. Staff was efficient and nice. Oldie but a goodie.
Keith H — Google review
This is not going to be a popular review. The restroom and the eating area was not as clean as I would like. The staff were very nice and sweet. We had no issues getting what we ordered which was fried chicken with french fries and fried okra, a cheeseburger with onion rings. And then we had two chocolate milkshakes. The hamburger was okay, a little bit between a Whataburger and a P terries. The fried Chicken taste was good but the chicken meat was not as hot as it should have been and it seemed like it had been sitting under the warmer for a bit too long, by which I mean it was a little dried out for fried chicken. I don't like things spicy but it was also even a bland seasoning for me. The onion rings were amazing, big hot thick juicy onion with a delicious coating. The fries were the type I like, but they just weren't hot enough and not really very fresh. The fried okra was good . The chocolate milkshake was delicious. The food was fairly expensive for what we had. We paid a little over $50 including the milkshakes. We also had two sodas.

a 70's drive-in or dine-in place I randomly found. I ordered a cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. quite "Top Notch" in my opinion (other than the fact that the patty was thin, however this is "fast food" so it reduces cooking time). Despite the reputation that fast food attracts, low quality and all, this place did not fail my expectations. I have read some reviews talking about how the food was mediocre but do you really expect quality from fast food? Another note, you can't compare this to better quality fast food restaurants such as In-N-Out because the presentation of the restaurant and the food is truly unique. It's one of the best fast food places I've found in Austin so far and I will come back when I get the chance. edit: The food somehow did not make me feel sick afterwards. Odd considering many fast food places typically do Cheeseburger: 8/10 Sweet potato fries: 7.4/10 $11.13 + tip (eesh....)

Thai Fresh is a popular spot known for its cooked-to-order dishes and homemade ice creams. The restaurant also features a market offering rare Thai ingredients. Chef Jam Sanitchat's establishment has been a local favorite for 15 years, serving authentic flavors and seasonal ingredients. Many menu items are gluten-free, and the in-house bakery offers an entirely gluten-free lineup of sweet treats and decadent desserts. The flexible menu allows for numerous substitutions, making it suitable for various dietary preferences.
We meet our adult kids occasionally for dinner in Austin and they get to choose a place since they live there. It has to be in south Austin though so we don't have to drive across Austin. This restaurant was a great choice. The food was delicious and the drinks were also pretty good --especially the Tiger Punch. I had stir-fry with chicken and rice and really liked it. My husband and daughter had drunken noodles and said they were really good. My son had a pork sandwich and raved that it was really tasty. We would go back here in a minute. The service was also very good with the workers patiently answering a lot of questions since we had never been here before. It's kind of small but it offers great food. I think they also had a military discount.

I discovered this place because my friend eats gluten free. It’s healthy and delicious. I have been coming for years and they have gluten free desserts and awesome coffee drinks and tea.. The pad Thai is good. If you like Pandan sweet flavor. This is one of few places you can enjoy Pandan ice cream. My favorite is the coconut ash flavor. Today I had the dark chocolate sea salt tart. I asked them to warm it up a bit and it was perfect. It has a cozy modern eclectic feel inside. You can bring your laptop and work as well. Oh, I couldn’t help myself and had a bite of the tart before taking a pic.

If you like authentic Thai food, don't come here. The Papaya Salad was lacking texture, Thai basil, fermented dried baby shrimp, and Thai chilies. Instead of smashed cherry tomatoes , it came with pulpy, tasteless, cubed tomatoes. It was heavy on the fish sauce, but missing all of the intricate ingredients Thai food is known for. The Glass Noodles with shrimp were also lacking this layering of flavors.  It was one dimensional, and the ever present pulpy tomatoes accompanied this dish as well. Would never order this again. We also ordered 2 tacos: one with fajita meat and another one with shrimp and eggs. And while the tacos were large, they were greasy and lacking any kind of fresh vegetable accompaniment typical with tacos. And they did not come with salsas. If you like large, pricey portions, this is your place. If you like an orchestra of flavors typical of good Thai or Mexican cuisine, then this is not for you...
Janna K — Google review
So worth the wait for a parking spot! The interesting thing is that they have way more seating than you would think so we got right in. Started off with a few apps and then a soup and I got the fried chicken. Just an awesome experience.

15% mandatory tip for PICK UP orders. Meaning I paid a dozen dollars to drive myself to their facility (because they are too greedy to pay that same 15% to a delivery service or driver), receive no special service, no ecstatic thank you, no sweet little cookie for coming by, just lazy drop of my food on the counter and the sheer greed of these little purple haired individuals (meaning ownership, management, and regular staff alike) that believe my hard earned money belongs in their pocket, rather the mine, because they did…their….job….below satisfactory levels. The best part is I’m a very generous tipper and for simply grabbing my food with a 360 degree, in-place turn, I probably would have thrown ya $5. Literally catch me at a coffee shop tipping $3 for no reason. But when you’re this greedy, disguised as an equitable solution (truly just owners being cheap) it’s such a repulsive result. To find out I’ve been auto tipping (without choice) every time I do a pick up order will now make this the last visit. If you stuck around to read this, it’s solid food, no better than the others, safe yourself the tragedy of supporting an enterprise like this for takeout. DEFINITELY don’t eat inside, very sad atmosphere, same below average service, and an auto tip for that service, I’m sure 😂

I ended up here based on a recommendation from a friend, did not disappoint. I ended up ordering something away from my comfort zone, I’d usually go for a pad Thai or pad see ew, but I went ahead and ordered the red curry and the coconut soup. Very delicious, good portion. The soup I was not such a big fan of, wouldn’t get it again. Will definitely be back to try my favorites at this spot. I definitely love the counter service they’ve got going on, there’s a self-serving station so you can help yourself to sauces and waters. You can either go ahead and order at the counter, or take a seat at one of the tables and order from the sticker they have on the tabletop. Your food will just magically appear after ordering, which is amazing. Very good spot for studying, I would definitely come in and do remote work here, it’s got coffee shop vibes.

We loved the food at this restaurant. They have a very unique approach to ordering. You order from your table and pay online. Then food is brought out. We had 3 main dishes, soup and salad. Hank's Austin is a vibrant coffee shop and cafe known for its spacious patio and convenient drive-through service. The restaurant offers a diverse menu of casual American cuisine, including options for kids. The expansive front patio provides ample space for families with strollers or little ones who want to play while waiting for their food. The interior boasts an open and inviting atmosphere with bench seating, warm woods, light colors, and abundant plant life that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces.
We’ve been coming to Hank’s for a few years now—it’s easily one of our favorite happy hour spots in town. The ambiance is always spot-on, with stylish design and a laid-back vibe. We especially love grabbing a seat at the bar. On our most recent visit, Miriam took care of us and was fantastic—super attentive, easy to talk to, and made the whole experience even better. We enjoyed the white wine on tap, the frozen Paloma, and the Aperol spritz—all refreshing and well-made. The burger hit the spot, but if you’re looking for standouts, we highly recommend the pesto rice bowl with grilled chicken and the spicy shrimp. Both are packed with flavor and perfect happy hour bites. If you’re looking for a chill, unpretentious happy hour with great service, food, and drinks—Hank’s is the place.

I recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts, the wood grilled salmon and the tagliatelle with bolognese. The service is friendly and consistent. It’s the kind of place you keep coming back to.

I've been here a few times and have loved the food every time but on this occasion the lamb meatballs were a bit too dry and overcooked in my opinion. Luckily the sauce it comes with was helping me get through it. I didn't say anything-but would have rather sent it back. Everything else was great that my friend and I ordered.

We love Hanks. You'll love it too. It's just a great place to be whether you're indoors or on their porch. The food is delicious and we're especially fond of their mussels. We discovered their cured salmon done in house and it was a great delight. I only wish they would bring back their world class creme bruleè. Le sigh. It was sooooo good.

Never disappoint with their delicious Frose. We ordered the Chicken sandwich, the Cheeseburger and the Shrimp and Grits for brunch. They were all delicious the chicken sandwich was juicy and full of flavor and the sauce in the Shrimp and Grits is to die for.

Restaurant
Golden Tiger, situated near the popular East Side cocktail bar Whislers in Austin, offers a variety of fried chicken sandwiches and smashburgers. The fried chicken sandwiches come in original, Thai, or Buffalo styles with each featuring a deep-fried chicken thigh and unique sauces like gochujang mayo for the original and sweet chili sauce for the Thai.
Hard to handle those serranos (they are spicy) so I ended up picking them off of my burgers and fries. The burger had some of the best burger meat I've had in a long time. Really, really good smash burger. The fries were also delicious. Had trouble finding parking nearby but the food only took 10-15 minutes to prepare.
Rachel B — Google review
Rating: 3.5/5 [delivery] Golden Burger ($14): Double smash patties, special sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles, and red onion. Absolute fire! One of the best burgers I've had in a while--juicy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. Would 100% come back for this when the cravings hit! Chicken Tenders Basket ($15): Three chicken tenders with fries and two dipping sauces. Unfortunately, the tenders were dry and lacked flavor -- even the sauces couldn't save them. I tried reheating them in the air fryer the next day, which helped a little, but I still wouldn't order them again. The fries were even worse, even after air frying them, and paled in comparison to fast-food fries. - BBQ Vegan Sauce: Not a fan. It had an overpowering flavor with a sharp, citrusy bite that didn't sit well on my palate. - Special Sauce: A must-try! Creamy, flavorful, and pairs well with just about anything. Thai Chicken Sandwich ($12) + Bacon ($2): Fried chicken thigh, sweet chili sauce, shredded lettuce, Thai basil, pickled Serranos, and red onion. The chicken was dry (though slightly better than the tenders) and didn't pair well with the bacon. The pickled Serranos added a nice spicy kick, but the sweet chili sauce--served on the side--tasted like a generic store-bought version and didn't really do much for the sandwich. This sandwich lacked cohesion, especially compared to the Golden Burger. I'm surprised it's popular and wouldn't recommend it.

Golden Tiger appears on many Austin best of lists, so I had to check it out. It’s a food truck that’s intertwined with an outdoor patio and bar that pits out a cool and relaxing vibe. There was nice music and misters that enhances that vibe. Overall, the golden burger and fries were awesome. The chicken sandos and nuggets need seasoning, but the dipping sauce was pretty good. Prices are a little on the high side, but what isn’t nowadays. It is for the 21+ crowd after dark.

Sneaky some of the best burgers and chicken sandwiches we've had in the city. A great spot to get food while you're drinking at whislers, everything is tasty, large, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend on a night out and especially to go out of your way to visit!
Kenny K — Google review
I ordered 2 chicken strips for $7 and it filled me up and was so delicious! By ordering the strips separately i got 2 different dipping sauces too. I'll definitely be back very soon!! I even brought my dog in to Whisler.

Brilliant burger but huge grievance with bill. Charged $22 which included tip. Left Austin to have $22 cancelled then to be charged over $26 dollars later. Basically they have cart blanch to charge whatever they want as a tip after the sale once you’ve left Austin. I’d like my $4 back please.
Steven R — Google review
Hard to believe that a simple food truck could give me one of the best burgers i had while I was in the us. But this truck managed it. Good flavour. Nice buns.
Chris P — Google review
Pretty good burger. It has a lot of hype, do I was expecting phenomenal. It wasn't that good, but it was still good. They charged more than their sign says right in front of them. $16 for the Golden Burger instead of $12. You can get a side fry with a burger for $4, so that kinda makes up for it. This is located in the patio of Whisler, which has great cocktails. Their special sauce has a nice kick to it. It goes wonderfully on their burger and their fries.

Roots Chicken Shak is a simple food court spot that offers duck-fat fried chicken, sandwiches, and classic sides. Customers rave about the delicious biscuits with spicy jelly and the Spicy Bird with sweet potato bun. The Duck Fat Fried Chicken Strips and Duck Fat fries are also highly recommended. Visitors appreciate the generous portions at reasonable prices, making it a great value for money.
FOOD HALL FOOD HAUL! After I ate here I was telling my sister how good the food is. She then told me it was created by a celebrity chef. All I know is they serve some of the tastiest chickens on the planet! The salad ruvals any I've ever had. Fresh greens and not all Iceberg either. Real greens. I've eaten her at least 4 times since July 2024. I'll be back in here for sure.

Roots Chicken Shak never disappoints! The Big Bird Chicken Sandwich is my favorite—juicy, flavorful, and served on a soft sweet potato bun with fresh toppings. The Duck Fat Fries are a must-try. Located inside the Mueller H-E-B food court, so there are plenty of great options around.

We have been wanting to come here for a very long time and it did not disappoint! It was so crispy, BIG, and perfectly priced. And the fact they cook with Duck Fat… it really makes it more healthy than other unhealthy oils. Top places in Austin for a chicken sandwich! Ordering was super easy from the kiosks and it was served quick. 🔥 🐓 💯 I did both the herb mayo and the kimchi mayo.

I looked up a place near where is was located and this place popped up. Once I seen it was inside of HEB I didn’t want to go in bc I wanted a place to set and eat but I went anyway. I love that it is a black owned business, great customer service employee explain what things where and there is actually a place to set and eat with a bar. Definitely recommend this place great chicken sandwich and fresh!
Marqueta J — Google review
If it’s wasn’t for the price I’d rate this lower, but it’s what you expect from a 8 dollar chicken sandwich. Wasn’t great wasn’t bad.. Average. I expected more based on the other reviews. The bread was a bit cold, didn’t care for the veggies, the chicken it self was heavily coated in batter but more batter than meat! But can’t complain for 8 dollars…
Shanky S — Google review
The Big Bird is one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The sweet tea with mint is excellent as well! It's kind of a fun atmosphere too because you pick up the food and then can sit in the bar at HEB.
Jacob W — Google review
Im hoping that I caught you all on a bad day. I love fried whole wings. So I ordered 6 whole wings. These were the worst, so unseasoned with no flavor. I’m quite shocked, I’ve always been able to count on anything under the HEB umbrella so satisfy my appetite. Today, not so much. Very disappointed.

Little pricey but absolutely delicious chicken sandwich and fries. The salad was a little salty so I’d probably skip the anchovies next time. Definitely recommend!

Located in the Driskill Hotel at the bustling corner of Sixth and Bravos streets, 1886 Cafe & Bakery pays tribute to its heritage by offering a Victorian tearoom-style setting reminiscent of a lunchroom founded by the Heritage Society in 1886. Since its opening on July 4, 2002, this cafe has become a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors. The menu features mouthwatering Texan comfort food and breakfast classics.
Went for breakfast and it’s some of the best baked goods and coffee I’ve ever had. Plain and simple. I got their waffle and bacon and it was awesome! My wife got the gluten free blueberry muffin and fruit and wow! The atmosphere of this spot, being in the Driskell, is a really cool vibe! 10/10

Amazing atmosphere. Such a sense of History in the hotel. The cafe has great brunch. I had the ladybird egg white omelette. It was so good. I ordered a to-go one to take home to my son. You have to go in and order at the counter and then you can pick where you want to sit, whether it's in the cafe itself or out in the lounge area of the hotel or on the patio. It was great fun
Diane W — Google review
Pretty good breakfast options overall. They had a gluten free muffin which was nice. The Driskill breakfast was good but it seemed a little stingy on the scrambled eggs. We were told that some options were recently scaled down because of new ownership. For example, only whole milk (no skim or 2% for lattes). They also didn't have honey and didn't allow for regular coffee refills. Music was a bit loud in the cafe also but the decor was nice. Staff was very nice and friendly. If you're staying in the hotel it's a quick close option.
DBradshaw25 — Google review
The Driskill Café is stunning, with high ceilings, beautiful details, and a warm, historic vibe — definitely worth a visit for coffee or a pastry, which looked delicious in the display. Unfortunately, our breakfast didn’t live up to the setting. My partner had the turkey B.L.T.,which he didn’t enjoy and couldn’t finish — and that says a lot. My yogurt was alright but too sour because of the amount of lemon juice that was in it. If the food had been better, this would have been our go-to breakfast spot in Austin. As it was, we didn’t end up coming back during our stay.
Leonie T — Google review
Stopped by here for something sweet, but the guy at the counter seemed to be annoyed that we wanted to order something. I understand that you’re about to close and finishing up, but we literally went 30 mins before closing and not 5 mins. We’ve got the cookie with everything, I forgot the name. It was good but dry. And it was $7? Crazy

Tucked inside the historic Driskill Hotel, the 1886 Café & Bakery is a cozy, elegant spot with vintage vibes and Southern charm. From the beautiful decor to the warm atmosphere, it’s like stepping back in time in the best way. We enjoyed delicious pastries and comforting breakfast, all made with care. The service was friendly, and the ambiance was relaxed yet refined. Whether you’re in for a hearty breakfast or just coffee and dessert, it’s the perfect place to pause and savor. ⭐️ A must-try in downtown Austin where history meets flavor.

Salty Sow is a local gastropub in Austin that offers a laid-back setting to enjoy braised, poached, and stewed dishes along with cocktails and craft brews. The restaurant hosts a daily happy hour with discounts on cocktails, house wines, appetizers, tacos, and fried chicken. Their honey rosemary dipped fried chicken is highly recommended. Additionally, they offer drinks for pickup from 4 to 9 p.m.
Fantastic! Food was some of the best that my wife and I had have in such a long time. We came during their happy hour on their honeymoon and every dish was amazing. The waitress was wonderful and all the staff we interacted with was wonderfully cheerful and friendly. Hopefully the next time we are in Austin we hope to try more of the menu. 12/10 is a must try restaurant

Amazing restaurant. I loved the cute pig decorations. The service was attentive but also let us take our time. Our sever ( I wish I remembered his name, was working July 30 8 pm) was the best server I’ve ever had. He explained the menu in extreme detail and was a very wholesome person. The food was some of the best we’ve had and I don’t say that lightly. We got the honey fried chicken, bone marrow, and beef shoulder. We hope to be back soon.
Samantha S — Google review
We ordered an array of items. The drinks were standard nothing special. The best thing we ordered was the Slow Cooked Beef Shoulder. Wow the flavor was phenomenal. The smoked salmon was really good but the presentation wasn’t what I thoughts I was expecting a sandwich with soft bread and it was more like a charcuterie. The wedge salad was mediocre. The fried chicken was ok. Not as tasty as what was at tumble 22 pre sale of the restaurant. A little dry biscuits weren’t great I imagined yummy biscuits like Mattie’s green pasture but was disappointed.

Holy cow, I cannot say enough great things about this place. We had the chicken bites, pork belly, beef shoulder, and chocolate truffle cake. We were looking forward to special of burnt ends on the menu, but we got in too late. They went out of their way to accommodate us with a special pork belly in the burnt ends sauce and man did we appreciate it because the pork belly was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in my life. Everything was so incredible, we had to eat in complete silence!! Our server was also wonderful and very knowledgeable. Such a perfect experience. I was visiting from Dallas and will be coming back just for this!!

They open at 4.30p. I was trying to come earlier but so much traffic slowed me down!! Luckily they had a community table the lady let me know when I called. I could tell it sounded like a full house and maps said that there was no tables!! Luckily it was just me so it all worked out!! The food is very good. I hope the salt is just in the name does not mean the food is extra salty haha jk!!! But it was very good!! The duck fat fries with an egg I've never had!! I normally don't eat lots of chicken the honey rosemary was very very good!! Highly recommended coming here!! Heads up there's a place i never knew in the morning here at the same location so the menu got intermixed somehow!!

The drinks were great, and their duck fat fries are amazing. I will come back again and again just for those two reasons. The food was hit or miss. I ordered the black fish, and the fish had good flavor but it was overcooked and I wasn’t a fan of the sauce. A friend ordered their hamburger and it was also overcooked. Another friend ordered their fried chicken and that was amazing. Overall, I’d go back, maybe just a bad day for the burgers and fish.

I enjoy stopping here time to time to indulge in a lil larry. The lil larry was perfection as per usual. Today I ventured out and tried the new bacon rib and their broccolini. I love their brussel sprouts but was feeling adventurous. Oh my goodness the cheese blend on the broccolini is perfection!! I love it. The bacon rib is a fatty version of a pork rib. The bacon part didn't fully come through to me however its a nice pork meat with a smokey and pepper flavor. Its well complimented with pickles and onions. This is my spot although sometimes challenging to get in without a reservation. Of course I'll return lil larry is my boyfriend lol. Don't be fooled by the faux lil larry on other menus. Nice for dates or family outings. Im solo so that's also welcome here. The service is always on point and I love a spot that has delicious food as well as delicious and potent adult beverages.

Salty Sow used to be a restaurant that I could consistently count on for excellent food and service, but after finding a hair woven through the truffled filling of my deviled egg on my last visit, I’d have a hard time going back. As anyone reading this knows, if you find something nasty in your food, it leads you to wonder what else might’ve potentially been in your food that you didn’t see. That said, I was not particularly appeased by the flippant manner with which Nick, the manager on duty, handled my complaint. He simply apologized and took the charge for the eggs off the bill. As a manager myself, I know that if you value someone’s business, you certainly do more than that for your customer after ruining their meal.

Sichuan restaurant
Wu Chow in Downtown Austin offers a contemporary space serving Sichuan cuisine and weekend dim sum brunch. The dim sum brunch, held every Sunday from 11am-3pm, features a variety of shareable Chinese dishes such as dumplings, potstickers, turnip cakes, and egg rolls. It's an interactive experience where small dishes like dumplings, shumai, and fritters are ordered from the menu to be shared with friends.
Gotta give great marks to this spot which has managed to bring (and keep) elevated Chinese food in downtown Austin for a decade now. The flavors are always bright and vibrant, service is the perfect combo of professional and personable, and the cocktails are fun and innovative. Wu Chow is also a pillar of the community in many other ways. You'll often find events hosted here during SXSW and beyond, and leadership is consistent and proactive in giving back to central Texas. Most recently, the owner collaborated with other local Austin chefs to host a delicious dinner series fundraising for victims of the July 4, 2025 floods. I appreciate the way they use food and fun to raise awareness and care for others.

Food flavors were absolutely incredible. But our soup was cold. Others sent back food around us for being cold too. The restaurant was not that busy at 5:15 but because we didn’t have reservations we had to sit outside. That was fine, it was a last minute decision while we were walking past to sit. However was waiter was absolutely terrible. He would disappear for long periods of time, others filled our drinks and brought us silverware and soy. He was not good. Other servers seemed attentive with their tables. Never went inside but the atmosphere seemed nice. The patio was nothing special. Probably won’t return ever again. Much better options in Austin.

In town for the Lumineers concert the night before… We were searching for something that we couldn’t normally find where we are from. My daughter had to return an item to urban outfitters so we searched for restaurants, nearby and found Wu Chow. Service was exceptional! The dumplings were delicious, but the noodles seemed different than what we are accustomed to. Pleasantly surprised to learn that the waitress removed the noodles from the ticket since so few were eaten. We showed our appreciation by replacing that cost in the tip! The atmosphere was pleasant and overall I’d say I would return.

We went for Sunday dim sum. Food was good, but a little pricey. They do use and source the best produce in the area. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The best part of this restaurant is you can flag down any server to place your order/ drink refill without waiting for your original server.

Came to Wu Chow for our anniversary dinner without a reservation. Online it showed no wait, but when we arrived, there was about an hour wait for indoor seating. Luckily, there was no wait for outdoor seating, so we took the chance even though it was a bit chilly. Thankfully, they had plenty of heaters, and we stayed warm. The food was incredible—we had the Wu Chow special fried rice, shrimp Chengdu, soup dumplings, and chicken Chengdu, and everything was packed with flavor. Service was great too, even though we were outside. Definitely coming back!

My husband & I went for our anniversary. We were actually not intending on coming here but as we were passing it we smelled the fresh ingredients and the aroma made us detour. The vibe is everything. Our server was Jehudiel and he was amazing! He recommended our drinks which were the spicy margarita (mala Rita) & the nien numb, the drinks were different but amazing. We loved them. We chose to have the tangerine beef (extra spicy was an option but man was that kick powerful lol — the peppers catch you off guard so have your water ready). This dish was so full of flavor & perfect. We also had the Cumin Lamb, it was so flavorful & the crispiness on it was top notch. We will definitely be back!

A perfect 5. Fantastic food, excellent service, beautiful restaurant. We loved it. The food is some level of fusion Chinese, but elevated. Though they say it's family style portions, I felt they were more on the individual side. The dumplings were exquisite, as were several of the shrimp dishes. Singapore noodles were delish too. Highly recommend it!

This place is amazing all around! The vibe of the interior is amazing and reminds me of a little cafe or restaurant in Europe. All the food we got was absolutely amazing, very worth the price. I had to take home my sandwich since it was so abundant. This is one of those places that is reasonably priced and great quality! Such a good option for brunch if you’re visiting Austin or already live here! Also their drink list is very expansive and delicious!

The atmosphere is cute with a touch of elegance. The food was delicious and the service was great. Be warned that if you’re sitting inside under the air ducts, they drip water from the condensation but luckily they have a solution, someone walks around with a towel on a stick that wipes it down throughout your meal. I had the Grilled Chicken Paillard with harissa, wild arugula, fennel, and parmesan. The seasoning was perfect and the chicken was moist.

Sunday night’s impromptu dinner date found us strolling down SOCO. June’s offered a no-wait, romantic, candle-lit opportunity. My gin cocktail was fantastic. Salt cod croquettes and a Boston lettuce salad (I loved the combination of truffle oil with tarragon and cheese) were my choices — with no regrets. Hubby had our usual salade niçoise, which was still delicious. For dessert, we shared the olive oil cake with red wine–poached pear and vanilla ice cream. It was a lovely way to conclude a wonderful meal. And I love their floral arrangements!!!

The menu offers inventive New American dishes with European twists: highlights include a crispy, generously sized fried chicken sandwich; rich bone‑marrow bolognese; and a textbook charbroiled burger with a jalapeño kick . Wine lovers will appreciate a thoughtful, frequently rotating list curated by Master Sommelier June Rodil . Service is consistently friendly and prompt, matching the warm ambiance

Mattie's is a charming restaurant located in a 19th-century farmhouse in South Austin. Originally owned by Henry and Martha Faulk, the property was transformed into a mini-farm, providing fresh produce for the restaurant. The opulent setting includes peacocks roaming the grounds, creating an elegant atmosphere for special occasions or date nights.
Amazing experience at Mattie’s! The atmosphere is charming and uniquely in this house, and the fried chicken was absolutely delicious—crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Great service and a beautiful setting made it even better. Definitely a must-visit!

My boyfriend and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary here, and we couldn’t have felt more special. We were greeted with a celebratory toast and ended with an anniversary dessert. The atmosphere is gorgeous and very eclectic which I love, and the service was top notch. Michael, our server was awesome! I was nervous and ordered my salmon well done, to which he replied, “you can do whatever you want”. That made me feel important, powerful, and awesome. Don’t even get me started on the peacocks because this review is long enough. no notes.

I had such a lovely time at Mattie’s! They surprised us with complimentary potato chips served with a tangy sour cream and chive dip, which was such a thoughtful touch and really delicious. For my meal, I ordered the beet salad with chicken, and it was fresh, vibrant, and beautifully presented. The flavors balanced perfectly — light but satisfying. Even though they didn’t have the hummingbird cake I was hoping for, they gave us complimentary affogato. It definitely made up for it. The waitress who served us was attentive, super friendly, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. And of course, one of the highlights of dining at Mattie’s is spotting the peacocks roaming the grounds. It adds such a unique and charming touch to the whole experience — you really feel like you’re somewhere special. Between the quality of the food, the welcoming staff, and the magical atmosphere (peacocks included!), Mattie’s is definitely a place I’d recommend.

The location and atmosphere are absolutely amazing. It’s a charming old house on land, in immediate south austin. We had an amazing time eating dinner under the oak trees and watching the peacocks climb the trees for the night. The sour cream and onion chips and the pineapple cake desert were great but the entrees didn’t live up to our expectations for the atmosphere. They were good but not great, which is what we expected.

Mattie’s is wonderful date night spot. The ambiance is so great. I loved all the trees and string lights, and appreciated that it is tucked away in a neighborhood. Our food was great but definitely not the best take on upscale southern I’ve ever had. The peaches and burrata appetizer was underwhelming, but the fried green tomatoes and duck were very very good!

Loved the costumer service here! The hostess and waitstaff were very helpful and the atmosphere was perfect for our anniversary dinner. I was hoping for a little more flavor from the $77 ribeye steak but it was still great. :)

This is a great special occasion restaurant — it is also good for groups. Such a charming spot with great service and great food. The decor inside is so well done and tasteful, with every detail given love and attention. Refined, but still relaxed and not stuffy at all. The biscuits and the fried chicken were so good, but everyone loved their meals. We were 6 adults and 1 child inside the main dining room downstairs. At night/dusk it’s extra charming with the string lights outside and the peacocks — at a certain point in the evening, they fly up into the trees to next for the night. One thing: acoustically it can be a little loud inside so if you are a bigger group, you won’t hear much aside from your section of the table (those next to you or right across)

The food was absolutely delectable, and every dish we ordered was a delight. However, the parking situation was quite frustrating. We couldn’t recall where there was on-site parking advertised, so we ended up parking in an area that didn’t have any signs indicating it was valet-only. It was also quite dark and rainy at night, so we could have been mistaken. The valet staff informed us about valet parking and mentioned that on-site parking had been changed recently. While $10 may not seem like a lot for valet parking, it felt like we were essentially paying to park and then retrieving our car ourselves. There was a couple had their car brought up to the valet spot when we just arrived, while we and our friends had to walk to get our cars. Open Table indicated that valet validation required a restaurant receipt, but we didn’t receive any confirmation of this. Despite the friendly valet staff, the overall experience was confusing and disappointing for the guests.

Everything we had here for breakfast was great. The chicken and waffles with gravy is a must! The flavor the chicken had was amazing. We sat in the red room, by the way, the vibe there was amazing. There was someone with a keyboard that did such an amazing job playing music. Truly gave it such a chill vibe as we waited for the table to be ready. Had the margarita. Also good and the fact that you can order ahead was a plus. The way we ordered the food through me off a bit but it made it easy when you have to split the bill. Def recommend coming here!

1st time here. Could of been better according to the reviews i saw. Not a fan of QR service. It didn't specify the menu and the options. So, I think the price of the food vs the quality didn't add up. Food took about 30 mins. The best part was the Yellow Bird Sauce and the Dirty Fries. I think I would try it again just to give it a chance but, 1st impression wasn't a positive one. We had a BLT sandwich with dirty fries and a spicy chicken sandwich with a salad. Sweet tea and Cosmo.

Nice restaurant I’d like to thank our waitress for being so attentive to detail. Massive big point that they make cappuccinos, not to be given for granted in the US, although I would kindly suggest to change the coffee/milk ratio slightly in favour of the coffee, as it was very milky! Bravo to the chefs!

Staff were nice but the food wasn’t very good. Too salty, greasy and overfried. We just happened to be in the area and decided to give it a try. I assume they get many customers from the hotels. $50 for two plates and one waffle….

This restaurant had great fast service and friendly staff. Shoutout to Chayane and Ray! The sweet potato hash was excellent, after starting with their sticky biscuits. The decor and color scheme worked well and in congruent with the Ramada hotel by Wyndam next door.

I placed an online order through Toast and paid in full. I drove over 40 minutes to pick it up, only to find the restaurant CLOSED due to a "temporary renovation" — with no prior notice, no signage online, and no contact from the restaurant. I never received the food or any communication. I reached out to the restaurant and even Toast support, but they said they can’t issue a refund without confirmation from the owner — who never replies. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing. I wasted time, money, and received absolutely nothing in return. Avoid this place unless you want to risk the same experience.

Food with my syrup would’ve been nice. Atmosphere was great but $40 dollars for this syrup soup not it. There is no service here we got our own drinks no one checked on us after food was brought.

Great spot for any meal, anytime of day. Outdoor seating for better weather. Seat yourself anywhere and order from the QR code. Really good service compared to some places that have that set up. Serve yourself fountain drinks or order a cocktail from the bar..lots of great food options, including gluten free bread/buns. I really enjoyed the Burger, fries and onion rings. They even have a club in the back where they do comedy and music shows. Parking is plentiful since it's connected to the hotel nextdoor, easy to find but you can drive by it if you go too far.

Bill Miller BBQ is a laid-back Texas-based chain that offers pit-smoked meats, fried chicken, breakfast items, and baked goods. Originally established as a fried chicken joint in 1953 in San Antonio, the restaurant still serves its original recipe. The menu includes BBQ chicken, chicken strips, turkey po'boys with moist smoked turkey and poppy seed buns, along with delicious breakfast bowls. Customers can also enjoy their famous iced tea.
We are working in Austin and decided to stop by and get our fix of greatness. We ordered through the Drive-Thru. Cashier was friendly, courteous and very professional. We always have issues when we order and extra roll and other locations forget 9/10 times. Without even asking he reassured us everything was in the bag and taken care of including the extra roll. The food was fresh, hot and exactly what we expected from our order. I was very pleased and impressed with our experience.

This was the first time we tried their lunch menu, and it was great. For the price, its hard to beat the quantity and quality of food that they offer. The food was good, the staff was friendly and my family had a great time. Will definitely be visiting again.

Never been here before and I'm happy I walked in! Service was speedy and the food is very good. Tender brisket and tangy sausage links. Potatoes are old school good with savory green beans and not featured is the absolutely delicious coleslaw. I will return!

Super welcoming staff. The manager Gabriel was helpful and guided me to get the marble beef brisket and it was so good melting in your mouth (marble, key word). Would come back for that, the rye bread and coslaw. They gave me extra butter when they already put it away for the night. Edit: "hot" sauce is amazing topper

We had the breakfast tacos this morning. We have ordered several times from Bill Millers. We have been so pleased with their brisket tacos, potato & egg tacos, along with the bacon and egg tacos. I love the crunchy bacon that's in the tacos! The brisket tacos are to die for, along with their desserts! You can't go wrong with that!!! We have been blessed every time we order from them! They do an AWESOME job! You know they fix the food with love and care. You know they love their jobs and making people happy with their food. They are very nice when I call them. You know it's a great day when you have Bill Millers breakfast tacos in the morning. Then have one of their many flavored pies and some coffee 😋 Their cherry and coconut pies are to die for!!!! Life couldn't get any better with Bill Miller! Thank you Bill Miller and staff for making our mornings blessed❤️🌹 God bless Bill Miller and staff/employees. ✝️✡️🛐

It might sound wild, but lately, trying different restaurants around Austin—from the fancy spots to the casual grab-and-go places—hasn't been the best experience. Whether it's messed-up orders I don't realize until I'm home or just plain bad service, I've been running into cashiers and waiters who seem totally uninterested. But let me tell you, from the moment I walked in, Bill Miller was a completely different story. And it's all thanks to the guy who took my order, Alejandro. Right off the bat, he was super polite, making sure I had everything I needed, and he did it all with a genuine smile. For the first time in a while, I actually felt welcomed. As someone in management, I'm always focused on making sure my employees understand how important it is to take care of our customers. So, I just had to share my experience so Alejandro gets the recognition he deserves. He's a prime example of how to do it right!

I placed an online order at 643 a.m. With a pick up time of 710-720. I was notified online that my order was ready for pick up, but when I made my way to the counter the female manager told me they couldn't find my order. Once she located my ticket on the rack she told told me it wasn't ready. Of course it wasn't ready they hadn't even started it. I asked how long that I had order about 45 min ago online she rudely snapped that they had a lot of order and she didnt know. I understand there's orders but I placed mine on line and if you dropped the ball take ownership don't snap at me for your failures. She then comes back around and tells me to sit it will be a while.. and it was. Definitely wish I could have canceled and got food from else where but it was such short notice I wouldn't have been able to make it to my event in time.

Southern restaurant (US)
Yall's Down Home Cafe is a cozy and friendly eatery in Austin that offers a taste of authentic Southern cuisine. The cafe is known for serving up some of the best southern-style fried chicken, prepared in small batches using only the freshest ingredients.
11/14/2024: Oh my God! Baby! Y’all’s Down Home Southern Cafe was so delicious that it made my soul smile. I was greeted by Mr. Jeff and Jasmine was my waitress. Their customer service is top tier. I always say whenever you’re greeted with a nice smile, everything will taste good! It didn’t take long to be served after placing my order. Or maybe the time passed by fast because of the grape Kool-Aid that was made with the perfect amount of sugar. I ordered the chicken fried steak, collard greens, red beans and the double crusted peach cobbler. This is the first time that I’ve never had to add extra seasoning to my food. It was provided but not needed. As I type this I’m still in my car, too satisfied to drive to my destination. Every item I ordered was properly cooked and maybe they added an ounce of love it in too. I ate everything. The restaurant is cozy and has a beautiful New Orleans theme. The only thing I didn’t like is I had to leave 🤣. I can’t wait to dine here again. I wish they had a restaurant in my city. Thank you for the excellent food and exceptional service. God bless.

We stumbled onto this place after a restaurant we frequent was closed. What a hidden gem! The food is amazing, real comfort food. The portions are large and do not sacrifice the flavor of the food. The Bourbon pork chops and collard greens are the best I have ever had.

I really liked the restaurant. They are very friendly. The food was good. I had the shrimp and gravy. The sides I chose were cabbage and collard greens. Both were very good. It came with a square of cornbread. I will probably go back and try some other items.

Fun, festive New Orleans themed bar with decorations and food to match. Their turkey po boy was surprisingly good and the cornbread was excellent. They share a huge free parking lot with the adjacent businesses in the strip. We look forward to going back.

Amazing food. All well seasoned popcorn shrimp, jalapeños, gizzards... the mashed potatoes, macaroni, tenders and cornbread were great!

Tucked away in the corner of the mall, you find an eclectic decorated restaurant. Our server, Liz, was absolutely great. She had great recommendations and provided the right amount of attention. I had the bourbon pork chops with green beans, corn bread, and collard greens. The corn bread is some of the best that I have had in recent memory. Green beans were seasoned, and you felt the downtime taste and the pork chops had Loisiana bourbon taste and were juicy. Certainly, I will go back and try other menu items. I was there 1.30pm on a Saturday, and service time was acceptable.

Fried chicken takeaway
Spicy Boys Fried Chicken is a food trailer that offers pan-Asian specialties and fusion dishes like roti tacos, located in various spots near popular drinking establishments. Their spicy and perfectly crispy chicken sandwiches are a great match for an ice-cold beer or cider. The mild-spiced fried chicken sandwich comes with papaya relish, Thai basil ranch, chili-honey sauce, scallions, and crispy shallots.
Solid food truck experience! The chicken and tater tots are fried perfectly! Be careful about the spice though…I enjoyed it, but others in the group struggled. The papaya salad is a must! The banana pudding is also excellent! This truck is parked in St Elmo’s Brewing’s patio.
Todd — Google review
When we visited Austin, I had really wanted to try this place based on reviews and menu items. When we got there we were sadly told that they had run out of everything except tater tots. So we ended up just having the tater tots (both tingly and the normal ones). The sauce with the tingly tots is delicious! So spicy but flavorful. One of the best tots I have had. I came back to Houston and had my husband was coming back a few days later so told him to grab it on the way back to Houston. The food survived the 3 hour drive and still tasted pretty decent. I will be honest, I had more expectations from the chicken sandwich but it wasn’t a wow. The pickle chips definitely added a good flavor but it lacked the spice kick. I would rate it a 3/5. Tots as usual were very good. Also ordered the nuggets which were decent. Maybe my experience would have been different if I would have eaten there prepared fresh but I was expecting the sandwich to be in line with Urban Bird or Tumble 22 spice level.
Shenila M — Google review
𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬. Yeah, look no further when it comes to fried chicken. There is not a box this place does not check. You MUST get the spicy tater tots, they are flaky, moist on the inside, and packed with flavor. The chicken is well seasoned and juicy. The heat levels are available for people who don’t need a lot of spice to heat lovers. I came to this place on a Saturday evening after a bar crawl and this was the perfect way to end cap the night. Highly recommend, don’t miss this one.
Tubosun O — Google review
5 stars for everything. Pics don’t look like much, but please trust me to read on. I don’t post reviews, but had to for this insane flavor bomb. It’s a food truck, yet you can get picnic seating outside or indoor air conditioning inside St Elmo Brewing, if needed. The Tangy Gai was the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. It achieved what everyone else struggles to, an immaculate balance between sweet, salty, vinegary, fatty, and spicy. It was like the balance of earth before global warming, and they captured that in a chicken sandwich and delivered it to my mouth. I ordered one, and some delicious nuggets. Had a few beers and went back to order another. I am addicted and can’t get enough. I’m coming back for that goodness that Darcey serves up; it’s absolutely incredible! If you want more than fried chicken between two buns, and you wanna be taken on a culinary journey, get action here. Full stop. Flavor stimulation and orgasm of the culinary experience.

Honestly, it was an accident. TLDR = ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thai inspired fried 🐔 🥪! I pull right up to the window on my electric scooter -Tina- ( we don't talk about her size only how fast she is ) like I actually know what I am doing, and I straight up try to order a burger combo! The gentleman behind the counter - with a nearly imperceptible hint of disappointment - informed me that I was not at the "burger place". Well folks...... I tell you, it had been a long day, I was deprived and dang near deranged, and ole Tina's battery was right on the brink of 50%. I cast a glance over my shoulder towards the indicated establishment and instantly decided what I really wanted was some fried chicken. Because the other spot was looking like a liminal space. Not yet completely convinced... we started going over some menu options; you know, because at this point.....I dont even have a clue where I am, let alone what I want to eat. My courteous and observant server skipped no beats, got me oriented with grace, and I quickly realized I was not at just some rando fried chicken truck. We got my order banged out, no thanks to me obviously. Everything sounded too real to be perfect, you dig? It was like one rung up the mind-blow ladder after the next. Tots were suggested, and agreed upon, spicy pickles were almost overlooked, crises averted. My dinosaur of a card ( sorry dinosaurs, that was cruel ) was painstakingly keyed into the system manually by my ever patient and covertly stoic server. What felt like an easy 12 - 16 minutes ( 3 hours faster than my struggle to craft this train wreck - sorry trains, that was cruel ) later, my order was received. Upon close inspection - solely to grade the packaging in preparation for transport - I noticed a few tots. This is where it gets interesting. These were no ordinary tots. My level of interest in the meal went from a 4-5 to about a 9. It was that kind of tot. They were in fact next-level tots, as the kids say. On top of showing the hallmarks of true quality, my OG Chicken Sandwich was assembled with exceptional presentation. Its wrapping was clean and attractive, and clearly labeled. My side of spicy pickles was perfectly sealed in a high grade container, and not a drop of brine was shed. My tots were so enticing both aromaticly and esthetically it was difficult for me to believe this had all been an accident? If you want chicken? Heck, it's all over ATX, take your pick. If you want a truly gratifying meal with flavors and pairings that folks actually put the care in to accomplish? This grub is worth your time. I am so glad I did not turn my back on Spicy Boys and stick to my orginal plan for burger. I made a dumb mistake, but... what I ended up getting was a meal with five star complexity, quality pairings and accentuated flavors ( not just in my sandwich but literally every item I ordered ) for under $20, from a small business in my neighborhood, with big backyard vibes. Huge thanks to y'all for this incredible first experience. I will be back again. And with purpose. My apologies to anyone still reading, it's been a long day. Peace, love, and chicken grease my fried friends. More than a nugget, this one was.

This place was busssssyyyyy tonight, they were the one of very few food trucks open and they killed it! Had the best hot maple chicken nugs and the roti with curry. Insanely good! Like the sweet and salty and savory and everything delicious were those nugs!!!! Worth the wait, and they were an efficient machine cranking out delicious food

Oh. My. Lord. I consider myself a connoisseur when it comes to chicken. And, this place melted my heart. I went for the spicy tots and the spicy nuggets. Both were epic. I'll look forward to my next visit, for real. Next time I'm ordering the whole damn menu lol

Spicy Boys is downright delirious—in the best way possible. I ordered the OG sandwich (and, okay, maybe another one too), and both were pure flavor chaos in the best sense. The chicken was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of heat, and the slaw balanced it out with that sweet, cool crunch that hits just right. If you’re on the fence—jump off and run here.

This place is about the atmosphere. They have a bar, pool tables, and chess you can play. Small menu, but the chicken sandwich with slaw on it was good. Good place for a quick affordable lunch. Not sure what happens at night there, but I'm guessing that's the best time to go. It seems like the type of place that has lots of regulars. I’ve never left a bar feeling so humiliated and unwelcome in my life, and I truly hope sharing this spares others the same heartache. I walked in hoping for a fun evening with my friend's and a simple double Old Fashioned—nothinng fancy.. The bartender scoffed, told me it “wouldn’t fit in the glass,” and refused to make it, even though any reasonable pour could have worked. When I politely asked another staff member how they prioritize customers, they smirked and said, “We’re business-obsessed,” rather than customer obsessed before turning away laughing with their coworkers. What followed was a barrage of eye-rolls and sarcastic commeents. I paid for overpriced, mediocre drinks while being treated like an inconvenience. The staff’s bullying wasn’t subtle; it was deliberate, coordinated, and cruel. No one should feel small or ridiculed for spending their hard-earned money in a place that’s supposed to offer hospitality. If you value kindness, respect, or even basic human decency, stay far away. There are too many great bars out there run by people who actually care. This one? They’ve made it clear: your comfort means nothing to them. I left shaken, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Had to make a trip to South Austin, Austin Recycle and Resource Recovery, so we decided to stop for lunch. A friend told me Pinthouse's food was good, and having previously liked some of their beers, I wanted to see for myself. We ordered two of the Smash Burgers, one with fries and the other with the slaw. The burger and fries were really delicious as well as the beer. I did not try the slaw, but my wife enjoyed it, says it was good. The Beluga ale had great flavor. Fresh ingredients and great made to order food with on-site brewed beer made for an awesome lunch. My son and I also played the ring swing game for the first time, both catching a hook after a few minutes of playing. Great lunch experience, and it was cool to get to see some of the brewery.

Pinthouse Brewing is a massive space and very loud atmosphere. The Detroit-style pizza was doughy but still tasty, and the beer selection is plentiful. The chicken wings were very small but tasty. So, it was my 1st time here, and I was pretty excited to go. I was with 2 other friends, we went in and ordered and while we were sitting there eating we were told that they close in 5 minutes. They came back and said we are turning off the open sign which turns off the light in the dining area, so we were eating in the dark. I have worked the service industry for over 5 years, and I had never told a customer, much less turn the light out on them, to leave the store. We would continue to clean while the customer would finish their meals. With that being said, the food was still great and I enjoyed being there, till the lights were turned out. I was told the cowboy is the best selling and tasting, so I got that, and I was not disappointed. Great flavor, hot and it was filling. I also had the tots, which were a small size, but still tasty. I was washing down my dinner with a 24oz DosXX, which I was very surprised they sold. It is overpriced, but very convenient to have there, so I got it, and she told me the price beforehand, $8, and she asked if that was fine, no problem for me. I guess it was my fault for not checking time, but turning out the lights was a bad move, but I will try again, and hopefully, it is the same wonderful chicken. Come on out and try a Cowboy and a Dosxx, but don't come in at closing time, and as always, my 2 cents.

My first visit to Flyrite and I guess I did the off book thing and got the cauliflower buffalo wrap instead of the chicken. The cauliflower was advertised as "fried" but all I got was the equivalent to steamed. It was a real soggy mess with so much hot buffalo sauce that my lettuce was wilty and mushy. The spinach wrap was so saucy it wouldn't hold together and everything from the first half of this wrap fell into my lap. The ladies taking my order were excited for me to try the food for the first time they gave a container of each sauce to get a good taste for next time. Unfortunately, I'm over sauced at this point. There's nothing but sauce in my $10.99 no meat, not fried cauliflower wrap.

Ate here two days in a row lol. I was impressed by particularly by their chicken breast. You can definitely tell their chicken is fresh and is sourced differently than say chik fil a. Their milk shake and craft sodas are good too. If this place added sweet potato tots then I'd eat here every day!

I’d like to start by saying the advertisement in the Uber eats app is a bit overwhelming. This is a horrible chick fil A knockoff. Trash at its finest. I will admit the customer service was great. The food wasn't so great though. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich combo with fries. The fries were old, soggy, and barley warm. The chicken sandwich was fresh it just taste bad. The spice it’s like a dry bbq rub. The wheat bun was extremely dry like stale toast. The fountain area is filthy it hasn't been cleaned in awhile. It’s very sticky including the condiments. The ketchup packets are stuck together. The restrooms let’s just say, you know what why bother!

The sauces are amazing my favorites are Honey Dijon, Avocado, and Siracha. The Siracha has a kick so be prepared. Customer service was great, and the Atmosphere relaxing.

Happy Chicks is a casual spot with a sporty vibe that offers a simple menu featuring chicken tenders, bacon macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and fries. The restaurant prides itself on serving some of the freshest and juiciest chicken tenders with homemade dipping sauces. Customers can also enjoy grilled tenders that are well-seasoned and juicy, along with tasty crispy fries.
First time visiting this location and it was such a great place! We went around 12 and sat at the bar. the bartender was very attentive! we absolutely loved how hot the chicken and fries were! the mac and cheese is perfect!!
Stephanie — Google review
I was a little concerned when the menu didn’t have prices. But the food itself is pretty solid. The chicken strips have good flavor by themselves with no sauce. The same can not be said for many chicken spots. I asked for the 3 piece, but was served four. So I’m not sure if I paid for 3 or 4, but with a side, two sauces and fries it was only $15 + tip. Mac & cheese was good, but not anything to write home about. But, I dipped in my Queso (one of the sauce options) and it was a home run. Service was friendly.

A friend recommended this place to us and we’re so glad we finally tried it. The fries were so good, they had a nice kick to them, and the chicken tenders were soooo good and crispy. Make sure you try the chipotle and garlic ranch. Can’t go wrong with this place!

I was super hungry arriving Austin and being Sunday after 6 most of my usual haunts were closed. I have a thing for chicken and Happy Chicks called my name. The one bartender/server was hustling working 3 or 4 tables. I think she was also filling online orders in the back as she would disappear for a bit at times. The chicken was house made and fresh. Plenty of sauce choices although some were watery. Fries reasonably fresh but a tad old. The Mac and cheese was a pleasant surprise and was uppend with a touch of garnish. All told probably pretty good for 6th in the evening.

Ordered delivery through GrubHub. The chicken was good, though it was barely warm by the time I got it (not sure how much that can be helped when getting delivery). The pieces are a decent size (and I’m pretty sure they gave me an extra). Both the Honey Mustard and Avocado Poblano sauces were good.

Kayley helped make our evening better. Had a long day.... didn't say we were in a hurry, yet she got us out of there swiftly and with delicious food. Wrap is scrumptious! Thank you Kayley, you're wonderful!

Popped in for lunch and it was great. The bartender Emma was awesome giving us recommendations on what to order. Im not usually a fan of this particular style of fries, but these were really good because they have a slightly sweet seasoning. Great spot for a quick bite to eat.

Fantastic. The chicken is delicious and the prices are decent for the serving size. I placed my orders online and the food was always ready by the time I got there! They also have a wide variety of sauces so I very much recommend this place if you need a quick meal!

Hi Wings is a popular spot in Austin known for its delicious fried chicken wings, including Korean Fried Chicken flavors. Customers rave about the juicy and tender meat that's perfectly fried, as well as the variety of flavorful sauces offered. The menu goes beyond wings, featuring other tasty options. The restaurant's inviting atmosphere with TVs and beer makes it a great place to enjoy a meal.
Greeted by a nice lady once we walked in. Parmershan fries to start that were crunchy and melt in your mouth. The wings were the best Korean style wings I've had. Thick crunchy breading and tender jucy inside. Better than bb.q chicken or other spots in austin. Will be returning soon.
Ethan S — Google review
Absolutely fantastic wings. They were huge, well fried, and a massive serving. The flavors were quite potent and had many options, will definitely be going back to try some different sauces. The service was a tad funky as ordering was all done via QR code and on our phones. It felt a tad clunky and I wasn't sure if I had ordered or not. All in all it wasn't that bad and the food came out in good time.
Kenny K — Google review
Love the service here! Push the button on the wall and they’re there right away. We had the Parmesan French fries and fried chicken with sauce on the Korean sauce on the side. Very good fried chicken btw. It fed 2.5 people.

I’ve visited Hi Wings several times. Their fried chicken is solid. I especially love the garlic parmesan and orange chicken flavors. Ordering is easy by phone (QR code). Service is limited (not much table service), but the staff are friendly.

Discalimer: This isn't my first trip here, my family and friends have eaten here about 5x prior to tonight. Every time the food and service is amazing. P.S. I have been to Korea and had the fried chicken experience there! Dining here is an authentic experience!! 10/10 I definitely recommend!! 💜
Sondra N — Google review
We ordered the Half Crispy Chicken with Sweet & Sour sauce, and 5 Battered Wings with Peach Habanero. We got both sauces on the side to keep the chicken crispy, and that was the right call! The chicken was super crispy and well seasoned on its own. The sweet & sour was classic and tangy, while the peach habanero had a nice balance of heat and sweetness. Garlic parmesan fries could have been better though

Rating: 4.6/5 [delivery] Garlic Lover's Chicken Half ($21.99): Fried chicken topped with a generous amount of fresh garlic and honey, served with one side—we chose pickled radish. The garlic honey glaze was an umami bomb! I could only eat one piece because of how intense it was. The chicken was huge, perfectly battered, and crispy. My husband loved this dish. Battered Wings (5 pcs - $13.49): These thin-battered wings were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. We got them tossed in sweet soy, which was absolutely delicious. The wings were a great size and stayed crunchy. I personally preferred these over the Garlic Lover's Chicken. For dipping sauce, we chose honey mustard, which was just okay. We also tried an extra 2 oz of Peach Habanero sauce ($2.50), which was fire—sweet with a nice spicy kick. Definitely worth trying at least once!
Angelica L — Google review
IMO, Prolly the best Korean fried wings in Austin. I'm never ever disappointed when I come here for Korean fried chicken. The cleanliness of the place, the service, the drinks available and the games on TV. You can't go wrong with either the whole chicken or the wings, they are always cooked to perfection. My favorite sauces are the regular Korean sweet & spicy or the can't go wrong Sweet Soy, so good!!! Chicken always come out hot made to order, and don't forget bout the fries, they always come out hot and fresh too. Prices may seem high but they are pretty fair, and you are never getting baby chicken wings. Also, if you don't want the sauces eat them plain, they are just as good that way. Go ahead and give this place a try it's awesome. Other flavors to try: i just tried, Jalapeno Parmesean, it was OK, it had heat but too much mayo flavor for me, The pepper chicken was not easy to find on the menu, but it's so worth it. Good amount of sweet with the heat. My 2nd favorite sauce.

The Cavalier is a laid-back establishment with a warm atmosphere, offering a variety of craft beer, cocktails, wine, and Southern-inspired dishes. The venue takes its casual yet authentic approach to Southern comfort food seriously, infusing each dish with unique and flavorful ingredients. In response to the community's evolving needs, The Cavalier has expanded its offerings to include Backyard Picnic Kits, Meal Prep Kits, Family-Style Meals, and a Virtual General Store/Farmers Market.
Came to The Cavalier for wings and deviled eggs but arrived during brunch hours instead. No regrets—the chicken biscuit with spicy honey butter and chicken and waffles were outstanding. The waffle, surprisingly, was the highlight of the meal. Fried chicken was flavorful and well-seasoned. A solid beer selection and a decent cabernet blend made for a well-rounded meal. The outdoor seating was comfortable, with fans and misters to keep things cool. Would love to return for their regular menu!

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere! Me and partner went here for a quick bite after apartment searching all day. They had a $10 deal of a corona and a shot of tequila and it was BOGO burger Monday so you get 2 burgers for the price of one! super great deal and the burgers are pretty big as well! My partner got an amazing chicken sandwich and the sauce in the sandwich was absolutely perfect! sweet and savory! The playlist was absolutely perfect and we will definitely be back!

You walk in and order from the bar and choose to leave the tab open or close out. It's self seating and they will give you a number and bring your ordered items out to you. I ate the deviled eggs and the gumbo. The deviled eggs were so creamy and delicious I only would of added more hot sauce for July liking but they were good. The gumbo was warm and flavorful, it had a lot of green chilies in so it was a little spicy.

We moved from Austin 7 years ago to retire in Mexico. The East Side was always “our area” and the section we called home in Austin. We come back to visit for a month or so each year and so much has changed in this city we love. While The Cavalier was not here when we left, it now welcomes us home each year when we return. It reminds us so much of the old Austin we love! Affordable, good tasting food, fantastic drinks that don’t break the bank and a kind caring staff who make you feel like family! A special thanks to Tom, Mike, Rachel, Charlotte & Hunter! Y’all made The Cavalier feel like our home away from home during our 2025 visit. Your kindnesses, service and great attitudes overwhelmed us this trip! Thanks for helping “Keep Austin Weird” and fabulous! See ya again next year! ❤️ Chuck & Tom

I'm posting a 2nd glowing review bc this place deserves it. So you could go to a bunch of steakhouses in Austin and spend 50+ dollars on a steak plate.... I would go out on a limb and say not only will you spend more money but you may not find as good as a steak that Kate will make you at The Cavalier on a Thursday night only. Prepare yourself for a fat and juicy perfectly prepared NY Strip steak with chimmichurri and butter on top. I hate how good the fries are bc I don't want to eat them and the chefs kiss of the meal is to split the rocket salad as an add on. Drinks were on point as always. Literally 5 star food for a 2 star cost. Keep doing what you are doing Cav- I hope the owners cherish how amazing of a staff they have ❤️

Lebowski's Grill at Highland Lanes is a local, nostalgic joint that offers a variety of customizable hamburgers and fried chicken sandwiches. The menu includes classic options like the Bacon Cheese Burger and Cowboy Special, as well as unique creations such as "The Walter," featuring double chicken patties and cheese. Visitors praise the delicious griddle burgers, which are perfectly seasoned and served with homemade pickles. The laid-back atmosphere and tasty offerings make it a must-visit spot for burger enthusiasts in Austin.
Burger place located in Highland Lanes bowling alley. No need to buy a game of bowling — you can go in just to get something from the restaurant (and it would be worth it). I ordered the Dude (typical hamburger) with cheese and a medium drink — cost about $17. It came out with fries and a pretty substantial (1/3 lb) patty. Amazing food for a bowling alley restaurant, the burger is better than a lot of restaurants’ in general. They also offer chicken tenders and the like if you are so inclined. You should go here soon, because the bowling alley might close in the near future. Highly recommended.

OH MY GOODNESS! There is a hidden gem inside the Highland Lanes bowling alley. LEBOWSKI’s Grill is a hole in the wall, serving up one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. I’m impressed with the quality of the food here. Food: The meal was definitely a guilty pleasure. I got “The Dude” a classic burger with fries or tater tots. I ordered my burger with everything on it, adding cheese and bacon. So why was it so great? Well, to start, the bun was soft and fluffy, the beef patty was cooked to perfection at a medium rare (seasoned well, juicy), and the toppings were just the right amount to balance the whole burger out. The fries were great, too. Service/Ambiance: The guy taking my order was nice. It's a pretty decent-sized bowling alley with plenty of seating. I did not bowl this time, but going inside only to eat was fine. I would definitely come back next time to bowl and eat here again.
Lori H — Google review
Definitely five stars for atmosphere. It’s in a bowling alley. Could there be a better location for a grill called Lebowski’s? Nope. My buddy got a burger called The Dude, which is just a single cheeseburger. I got The Walter, which is a double cheeseburger. I got a side of tots and my buddy got waffle fries (who orders that when tots are an option? Gonna get him some help). The burger was fantastic, as were the tots. I got a Shiner Bock from the bar next door and it was a perfect meal to enjoy whilst watching everyone bowling on a Saturday afternoon. Some people claim that this is the best burger in Austin. I don’t know about that, but it is a damn tasty burger. I loved it.

They are open until midnight but the grill was closed around 9 so I couldn't get to rate anything from the grill. However, the workers were very nice and helpful with whatever questions we had. Prices are very reasonable. They do have a small game room area with claw machines and those were a bit pricey, but nonetheless still worth it because my kid had a blast. Definitely coming back.

Lebowski’s Grill at Highland Lanes has the best burgers I’ve had in Austin! I first tried them at a food festival downtown and have been wanting to go to Highland Lanes bowling for the burgers! Even if you don’t want to bowl, go when there’s league play so you can watch some impressive bowlers. But, back to the food, you order at the counter and food is ready quickly. We ordered the infusion with bacon and patty melt, the two most popular burgers. Sooo good, the flavors are excellent. I wanted more out of the tots and fries because they were kind of bland but I’m not letting them deter from the burger! Go try one right now!!
Jake H — Google review
Took the family bowling for spring break. We took a break and ordered a bunch of burgers and fries. Amy at the grill is amazing! There was not a single bite left over. Is it an amazingly delicious greasy burger? Yes! Are the veggies fresh and crisp? Also yes! Waffle fries can be hit or miss but these are just the right amount of crispy with a healthy dose of seasoning! If we’re bowling, we’re eating!
Lucaya R — Google review
Two giant thumbs up and a high five to the lady on the griddle. Amazing burgers, very tasty waffle fries People had kept telling me to come here for arguably the best burger in Austin and I never really took the hype seriously. But ooohhh boy, this is that delicious greasy diner style griddle burger. The patties are aggressively seasoned and cooked to perfection, cheese is melted in to the patties and the buns are toasted on the griddle. Pretty sure these are homemade pickles in there as well. 10/10 all around. To top it all off they build the burger in the correct order with meat and cheese on top and the veggies on the bottom.
Javier L — Google review
Tasty burgers that lived up to the hype, but a little too small for the price which didn't include fries or tots. The fries were good as were my friend's tots, but for $2.25 a pop we expected more of them. Small, medium and large drinks but you have to pay for refills. Lebowskis offers tasty, fresh food, with great customer service. I will eat here again and look forward to it, although I would like to get a little more bang for the buck on my next visit. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Came to “Git Out” of our hotel for the night and get dinner. I was mostly drawn by the reviews of the Mac and cheese bowl. It was kind of disappointing though. I got the smoked brisket to top the Mac and cheese. The brisket was flavorless and seemed like oven baked, not smoked. Cut into big pieces that weren’t really tender. Just didn’t seem appetizing for a stand alone entree. I got the wings because I love to try any places version of “Gold Rush” flavor. It’s a tangy honey mustardy flavor. Delicious sauce and flavor! I wasn’t a fan of the wings either though. I’m more of a fried crispy wing fan. These seemed baked. They were very tender, and juicy! Don’t get me wrong they were not bad! Just personal preferences of wing type. I still recommend, they are huge! My wife got the patty melt burger, probably the most delicious out of our whole meal! The burger was spot on delicious, and the waffle fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. A great bar with friendly and attentive service. I got the ranch water.

Good restaurant in a usual location. Decent number of parking spots but can get full during peak hours. Located in a strip mall with other stores beside it so parking is shared. Good number of menu options. Includes some vegetarian options too. Wings are good and sauces are mostly tasty. Amazing nachos dish. Have found it well made, like here, in very few restaurants across Austin. Tacos are great too. Have grilled and fried options and come with tasty pickled radishes. Good beer choices too! Might come back for the food but prices might make me rethink. Overall a bit pricy. Like 6 wings were $10+, but it’s kinda competitive considering other restaurants too! Clean restrooms too! Not bad at all! Give it a try.

This place is delicious! By far the best burger I've ever had and I am a burger lover. I ordered the TEXAS BURGER. The burger was cooked to perfection and topped off with slow cooked tender juicy thick sliced pieces of brisket. Welcome to Texas!!! My fiance and daughter ordered the Buffalo wings in addition to the all meat pizza Flatbread. We live in Fort Worth but thought this will be worth driving back through the heat and the God-foresaken traffic to eat here again and enjoy morsels of heaven!!!

First time every coming out here and the fiance ordered trash fries plain with brisket and I ordered birria tacos no mods. The consomme with the birria at first seemed mild flavored and I was turned off. But then I dunked it in the salsa before dipping in the consomme and it was the best citrus-y fatty flavor ever. Took all 3 down in a second. The brisket that came with my guys trash fries are so divine, you can taste the smoky flavor.

We have put this place on our frequent favorites cause we always enjoy coming here. The food is super amazing, and the menu is (in my opinion) rare and precious. We hadn't been here in a little while (longer than I thought, really) mostly cause we do a lot of lunches. We made it back in and, the best thing on the menu is no longer on the menu... the Pork Belly!!! I'm totally hoping it is just a seasonal change. Don't get me wrong, the menu is incredible. So many unique flavor combinations and uncommon ingredients have come together to make a truly unexpected "Sports-Bar Gourmet" experience. We love the "Dinner and a Movie" salad (their brisket is so tender and tasty). Their burgers are very creatively crafted, too; my favorite is the Phatty Melt. We do keto, so we skipped the bun and ordered the PM burger, DaaM salad and pork nuggets, then we just shared it all... mmmmmmmmm... I can only hope that they'll come back with the pork belly. I mean.... seriously. But, we'll be back, either way.

We had our wedding here in April 2025 and the Mattie’s / Green Pastures team did a fantastic job. The staff were kind, well-organized, and helpful. The food was incredible - we got many complements, especially on the vegetarian dishes - which can be an afterthought. The venue was beautiful and felt like a great size for our group of 100 with dinner under the tent and reception in Marion Hall. And the peacocks added a touch of magic! Though there was ongoing construction on the hotel and grounds, they did a great job of making it nearly invisible on the wedding day. The fact that Mattie’s provides everything from food from the onsite restaurant, through linens, tables, chairs, etc, made it a lot easier to organize and less stressful on the day of. Thanks for a weekend that we’ll never forget!

Very good experience went there for my birthday for brunch and was seated outdoors. The drinks, the food, and the service were impeccable. Beautiful scenery. Parking is a bit tight and they do have reservations only but tables are well placed and distant. Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive. Loved loved this place. I Will definitely go back for dinner. The chillaquiles are amazing and the biscuits were also very good. Kind of wish they asked if you need hot sauce or any condiments but seriously the food was so hot and good that I can totally overlook it.

Green Pastures made for the perfect Sunday brunch wedding. The venue pays homage to the home's heritage and the natural beauty of Austin, along with a family of peacocks roaming the premises. The food and drinks are top-notch, and a special nod to the vibrant staff who provide the true spirit of this establishment.

I'm biased towards Green Pastures because I asked my wife to marry me in the Gazebo out back behind the restaurant after a great dinner. 8 months later we got married in the very same gazebo. Dinner: as good as it gets in Austin for contemporary American cuisine. Brunch: absolutely fantastic buffet, but the star is the deadly Milk Punch. This stuff is the nectar of the gods. Just don't drink too much on a Sunday morning. Catering: They catered my wedding reception too, and we received numerous compliments about how this was the best wedding fare they had ever had. Pretty reasonable price too. The house is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful. Watch out for peacocks on a nocturnal rampage though. One jumped out of a tree and let out a terrifying scream in front of me one time. One more thing: their special prix fixe dinners for various occasions are fantastic and extravagant. Even the vegetarian meal is top notch (someone let me taste).
Ben M — Google review
The grounds are beautiful. You’ll feel like you drove hours out of the city. If you go when it’s slow, the quietness of the dining area can be unsettling, but if you want a nice, romantic dinner with great food and the ability to hear your date across the table, you can’t go wrong here. If you bring a group for business or otherwise, you can ask them to open the bar, and you’ll be escorted upstairs to a cozy mostly-private room with a personal bartender. It’s a great place to talk business or get to know each other before sitting down for dinner. Very unique experience.

Many patrons rave about their combo meals, which include a tasty chicken sandwich paired with crispy tots and refreshing lemonade—an excellent choice for anyone seeking satisfying comfort food while traveling!
Flyrite is an Austin chain of chicken sandwich shops. The chicken is good but many of the sandwiches that are spicy are too spicy for me so I stick with just the original chicken sandwich. But if you like spicy, I think the spicy ones would be good and certainly more flavorful.

Please don't. Half the ingredients on my $19 dollar meal were left off, and the jalapeños looked like they were cut with safety scissors in kindergarten. They were literally thicker than the chicken. Forgot cheese, bacon and sauce.

I was the last customer of the day and the staff were kind enough to accommodate me. That being said, the ~17$ sandwich was truly terrible. Dry and overcooked, nothing like a well cooked sandwich should taste. Also it seems there's a credit card surcharge here to watch out for as well. The combo offer wasn't really worth the 3$ addon either, a small handful of fries and a medium soda. Unfortunately won't ever be revisiting.

I ordered the cowboy meal, and it came with fries and a drink. It was almost $21. The second I took my credit card out of the machine, my food was ready which was suspiciously fast. I saw all fries bagged and sitting out…same with the chicken. Cold, chicken was dry, and the bun was cold and hard. The fries were seasoned well but not fresh. I would have waited 10 minutes for fresh chicken tbh. My advice, cook to order? Especially cause it wasn’t even busy. Very disappointing. I decided to ignore the bad reviews and give this place a chance.
Graham — Google review
Outrageous prices for crappy, small amounts of food. I get that you pay a premium at the airport for convenience, but this is just unacceptable. The sandwich was $15.50 before tax and it's barely more than you get for a hot and spicy McChicken sandwich at McDonald's...
A.J. B — Google review
The employees were sitting and on their phones while there was a line of customers forming. Finally, once they got up and I was able to order the woman taking my order was extremely rude. I get my food and was confused if I ordered tenders or bricks.
Mei V — Google review
Does a picture speak a thousand words? Can you say BURNED, burned, burned!!!!! Need I say MORE? They were mildly busy, but burning the chicken fingers to a char crisp is just unacceptable. The funny part was the order was ready in less than as than a minute!
Elizabeth S — Google review
I paid $13.50 for room temp dry chicken tenders and a small handful of fries. Picture below. Was excited to try for the first time but after I got to my gate to eat it I was beyond disappointed. The place was packed so I would expect the food to be hot and moving from the fryers to the handling. Corporate could use more training here as they must have over prepared and was under the lamp way to long. Literally would never recommend to anyone at the Austin airport location.

Wine bar
Nestled in the vibrant South 1st Street dining scene, Underdog is a fresh gem that beautifully marries Korean-inspired cuisine with an impressive selection of natural wines. This modern eatery showcases a menu that artfully blends traditional Korean flavors with French influences and Texan flair. Standout dishes include their crispy Korean fried chicken paired with shiso ranch and pickles, along with a colorful array of kimchi and delectable shiitake mushroom & scallion pancakes.
Update: Go for the steak frites night every Tuesday. It was outstanding - tempura battered fries are the fries of my dreams. — Great happy hour spot! The food was super interesting and the wine options were great. Standouts we’re the crispy rice, stroop waffles and fried chicken. Plus we had an awesome waiter who chatted with us at the bar. We will definitely be back!

Too loud if you go at peak times. (Updated!) I have been there twice recently and the noise was not an issue. The fried chicken is perfect, ask for a wine pairing that works. Also, the tempura veggies are amazing. For dessert, we ordered the layered cake, its ok. Not amazing. The service though, those waiters LOVE THEIR JOB!

This is my favorite restaurant in Austin, hands down. The food is always delicious with new additions to the menu every time we visit. The wine selection is diverse and tasty. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about what pairs well. I've hosted parties in their private dining area with rave reviews from all attendees! We've met the owners - they are so nice and it's very evident how much they care about the dining experience. My wife and I try all of the new restaurants in Austin and are often disappointed - Underdog is a great experience every time. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Cute vibes, and a different take on Korean food. Food: we had the fried chicken, seasonal salad, and the wagyu. When looking around.. sooo many people had the fried chicken and our server told us they were known for their fried chicken and wagyu steak- which is why we got both. The fried chicken was a bit of a letdown for me. It was dry, wasn’t that crispy, and the flavor wasn’t out of this world- just tasted like toasted seaweed because of the nori flakes. Idk… just didn’t get the hype for $36 for a very small half bird. The wagyu was good tho, if not a bit sweet. Think bulgogi sauce marinaded. They had a great dipping sauce, but the meat wasn’t particularly tender and I wasn’t even asked what temperature I like my steak. It came out med rare. The kimchi that accompanied it was a cantaloupe kimchi.. which was ok, not my fav. The side pear salad tho was delicious, but still.. $18 for a side of pears and cucumbers. Atmosphere was good. Very vibey and cute. There’s a parking garage connected and they validate parking.

We went to Underdog when it first opened a couple years ago. It was very good. Last night we returned and were blown away by how great it is. The food and service are amazing! There are a lot of positive things I can say about the 6 or 7 items we ordered. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. One warning: if someone at your table orders the twisted cinnamon rolls for dessert, it’s unlikely that they’ll share them with anyone - something so simple is that good at Underdog.

My new favorite spot in Austin. Every bite was unique, texturally delightful, and exploding with flavor. As a non-steak person, the Tuesday Night steak frites are not only an insane deal, but one of the most delicious things I’ve tasted in recent memory (that wagyu hanger steak almost had me in tears and helloooooo tempura French fries! I’ll have dreams about you!). We tried the scallion pajeon, crab on crispy rice, all the kimchis (tomato and peach were the stars!), summer peach salad, the pastrami fried rice, steak frites, and the dark chocolate silvanas (what I lovingly termed Grown Up Dunk-A-Roos). All out of this world. Save us a seat, Underdog, because we’ll be back very soon!

Our FAVORITE place in ATX 🤤 we went for the happy hour and atmosphere and had to stay for another full meal because it was SO AMAZING. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was inviting and warm, I never wanted to leave. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. Every little detail of our experience was perfect. OK, now the food - wow! Each dish was a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. I had the Ebi Burger with caviar frites on HH and I am forever changed. Can I put caviar on everything now? (See pic for answer, yes) And the wine selection? Impeccable. The staff guided us through a perfect pairing that elevated our meals to another level. We can't wait to return and explore more of their menu. Thank you to the entire team for a truly incredible evening!

Maybe I’m skewed from eating Korean food in Korea and thus my expectations are higher. This place is alright Korean food, but imo not worth the price to food ratio. Got the dumplings and those were good. The Kim chis were good. The galbi was 60-70% fat per rib and thus the food to price ratio was not good for that. Ordered the stew, but it took over an hour to come out so didn’t even eat it and took it to go. IMO this is overpriced “modern” Korean food.

Fried chicken takeaway
If you're a fried chicken enthusiast, then Dang Hot 89 is an absolute must-visit in Austin! Known for its Nashville-style hot chicken, this spot has garnered rave reviews for its flavorful offerings. I indulged in their tenders and boneless thighs, opting for medium spice on the tenders and hot on the thighs. Both were bursting with flavor, juicy perfection that left me craving more. The accompanying spicy fries added just the right kick to my meal.
Chicken tenders were so good! I got the three piece tenders and fries. Fries good enough to share. Mild was not spicy at all and Medium was spicy 🌶️ their sauce was good too. Drinks at Celis brewery next door were great.
Robert G — Google review
If you like fried, crispy chicken with some good spicy hear and great flavor, this is for you. The fries were perfect IMO, too. Just a heads up, though, that they’re medium spicy was hotter than I expected. Can’t imagine what the spicy version was. Whew! The staff was very helpful.
Carrie M — Google review
Went based off a David Douglas food reviewer video and was definitely disappointed. I got the tenders for myself and the tender sandwich for my gf both at medium heat (which is the second least spicy). My gf and I both enjoy spice but we wanted to play it safe since we had never been here. Well the level of spice on the medium paired with the piping hot (fresh) chicken just made it completely unenjoyable. The food was temperature hot and spice hot, and yes I tried just letting it cool off- turns out I just didn’t like the spice. I was excited for the cheesy hot fried because they had been hyped up, again the hot seasoning just made them not very good and wished I had just got cheesy. Needless to say we barely ate any of the chicken, I ate all of the fries because I was starving, which ended up being a bad idea…next day my stomach was wrecked. Atmosphere here is very bleh, it’s located up north at Celis Brewery, which may be one of the most boring environments of all time. Food service for the Dang Hot food truck is all on the internet, so no need to walk up to the truck and order since you’ll just be scanning a QR code anyways.

The chicken sandwich was outstanding—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The portion size was incredibly generous, easily enough for two people to share. Excellent quality and great value; I’ll definitely be coming back
Nabil M — Google review
Amazing sandwich! And I don’t even really like crinkle cut fries, but they fried them nice and crispy so that was good too. One thing to look out for though, their spicy is spicy! I went one tick up from mild to medium and it was pretty darn hot. Super good choice for a chicken sando
Evan C — Google review
Absolutely incredible service and food! This is hands down the best fried chicken we have had in our lives and that means a lot because we came from Washington DC and they had incredible fried chicken. This tops them all! The service is incredible and he works so hard, if you want hotter than dang hot just ask him and he will whip it together for you, it can get really hot! The fries have the perfect crisp and if you like cheese the cheddar fried tastes like Cheetos. Both the ranch and dang sauce are incredible, by far my favorite spot to eat!
Rachael B — Google review
loved this place, i got their boneless sandwich in mild and it was really good! their fries were fresh and crunch and the dang sauce is a must!! the workers were also so nice.
Ngan H — Google review
I wish I could say it was more than just OK. You're better off going to the burger truck. $15 for 3 tenders (no fries) isn't a good deal. The Medium wasn't spicy at all despite the warnings.
