The Texas Capitol, a stunning 1888 granite and marble structure, boasts a remarkable rotunda and dome along with House and Senate chambers. Adjacent to this historic site is the Bullock Texas State History Museum, named after Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock. The museum offers interactive exhibits across three main themes: the founding of Texas, the state's history and name origins, and opportunities within the state.
We were not aware they had free tours! We made it on time for one and it made the experience way better. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. We loved walking around and exploring the installations. They had a small presentation of Ukrainians singing during our visit

I had a good time visiting the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The architecture is stunning, and the building is full of history. I enjoyed walking through the rotunda, seeing the portraits of past governors, and learning more about Texas’ unique political history. The provide a free tour with a guide of what seemed like every 15 minutes. The grounds were beautifully maintained, and the views of downtown Austin added to the experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!!!
Arch S — Google review
Beautiful architecture especially inside the dome. You're not really allowed to go anywhere else other than the centre inside. Airport type security at the entrance with metal detectors. There are toilets inside, clean. Beautiful gardens and monuments outside.
Sventek — Google review
The Texas Capitol is a must-see in Austin. It’s impressive from the outside, but definitely worth stepping inside too. The building is beautiful, full of history, and free to visit. Everything is well maintained, and the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. A great place to walk around, learn something new, and take some great photos. A solid stop if you’re exploring the city.
JESUS P — Google review
The Texas State Capitol in Austin is an absolute must-visit and one of the finest state capitols in the United States. Nestled in the heart of downtown, this historic landmark stands tall with its impressive architecture, rich history, and beautifully maintained grounds. From the moment you approach the building, you’re struck by its grandeur. The pink granite exterior gives it a unique character, and the rotunda is truly breathtaking once inside. The interior features intricate details, historic paintings, and sculptures that reflect the pride and legacy of Texas. The dome itself is higher than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., which is quite impressive. The Capitol is open to the public and offers free guided tours throughout the day. These tours are very informative, covering everything from Texas history to the legislative process. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. You can also choose to do a self-guided tour if you prefer to explore at your own pace. The Capitol grounds are expansive and beautifully landscaped, making it a great spot to walk around, relax, or take pictures. Statues and memorials throughout the grounds add to the experience, each telling a different part of Texas history. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, or just a curious visitor, the Texas State Capitol offers something for everyone. It’s a place where you can truly feel the pride Texans have for their state. And best of all — it’s free to visit! Highly recommend setting aside a few hours for this remarkable site. It’s a shining example of Texas history and government, and a highlight of any trip to Austin.

Today was a awesome day at the Texas State capitol, I initially went just to make a contribution to google maps cause a few of my friends asked if I could but then without any kind of notice a group of young mariachis, an Aztec dance group in full regalia out of Houston and a Mexican vaquera soldadera who too was from Houston,I apologize for not asking your name but I hope your picture alone gives you justice, you made a outstanding performance and I personally applaud you,,as for the eagle and Jaguar knights special shout out to conrado Acevedo and kind heart and the rest of the Houston Aztec dance group,, and last but not least id also like to give a shout out to the local mariachi group from Akins high school, there was plenty of singing and dancing and all kinds of Instruments keeping sync from each performing group at times your occasional grito can be heard, there are restrooms and water fountains and it is wheelchair accessible, the grounds are very well kept, with monuments and dedication plaques at different points of the capitol grounds and you already know there is always a large police presence, tours are free and there is one in English and also one in Spanish of course at different times and they start out of the southern foyer, there are plenty of benches in and outside the capitol bldg, so one can take a break and breathe in all the history and stare in awe as you look around and see how beautiful and spacious the inside of the capitol is,,it never got to crowded and please be respectful and take your hat off within the bldg, outside it's cool all day every day,if you have never done one thing outside the norm and your from Texas, please before you get any older take a trip and visit your state capitol,I strongly recommend you take your kids and/or grandkids,,I promise you will never forget the experience... enjoy

Good experience. Highly recommended to do the free guided tour provided at the Capitol. They gave you a quick overview of the buildings and its significance. If you are not into politics, you might not find it interesting.

Nestled in a 5.1-acre park, Mt Bonnell is a must-visit destination in Austin, Texas. Named after William Bonnell, this elevated summit stands at 750 feet and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Austin, the city skyline, and the surrounding hills.
Went early morning. Bit cloudy but still beautiful! River and city views were amazing. You can walk up stairs or take a small trail on the right. Parking is there. Just be careful around the area.
Stevens J — Google review
First time coming here!! There may be a short hiking path but we drove up to the parking spot where we just climbed up the stairs of 100 steps etc. from the top, the view was very nice and beautiful! You’ll get to see either the scenery of the downtown Austin or the river! It’s a nice location to look out the view and enjoy nature!! Come see it and have fun! Cheers 🥂
Mr. D — Google review
Visited Mount Bonnell during my trip to Austin. You’ll walk up a few steps to reach the viewpoint, where you get a nice view from the top. While the scenery is pleasant, there aren’t many great spots for photos. It’s more of a place to walk and enjoy the view. Still worth a quick visit if you’re in the area.
Shashank P — Google review
Love to bring visiting guests here. The view is gorgeous. It’s a short climb to the top. Less than 5 min. It’s close to the Mayfield Park and Preserve where you can see peacocks, their babies, and peafowl. There are porta potties there. Parking is easy if it isn’t busy.
Kelly T — Google review
A very easy and doable hike for anyone! We went early in the morning to catch the sunrise. Although it was a cloudy day, the short hike was still wonderful and peaceful.
Harini C — Google review
Great place to visit. It's up on the mountain top. There is stairs to climb up to the top. The scene is quite beautiful to watch. Going in sunset or sunrise is recommend.
Arpan D — Google review
It’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s a nice view of the river and the skyline and it’s free, so there’s not really a reason to not go. The stairs up to the view is very short. There’s a big table at the top you can sit on to be raised up. It’s a great place to yap and chill with people. It’s really pretty at night, and I’m sure it’s also beautiful in the day too.
Angela — Google review
Coming from Tarrytown, I hiked up to Mount Bonnell early one morning to avoid the heat. The path was straightforward, a mix of paved sections and natural trails that took maybe 10 minutes from the top. I felt a sense of calm watching the sunrise over the Texas Hill country with the Pennybacker Bridge arching in the distance, the views of the river homes along Lake Austin were striking all those rooftops nestled in the trees. It’s free and accessible, but the lack of shade made me glad I went early worth it for that fresh perspective on Austin‘s landscape

Zilker Park is truly the heart of Austin! 🌳✨ It’s a beautiful, open green space where you can relax, walk, picnic, or just enjoy the skyline views. The park feels alive with people jogging, playing frisbee, walking their dogs, or simply lounging under the trees. Barton Springs nearby is a refreshing bonus, and the walking trails are perfect for soaking in the natural beauty. What I love most is how versatile the park is — whether you want a quiet afternoon with a book, a family picnic, or to catch one of Austin’s famous festivals, Zilker has it all. A must-visit if you want to experience the local vibe of the city.
Qurat F — Google review
Ok. Great views, but lots of trash. Not sure why the city neglects this popular site which is visited by many tourist. I also got the feel that petty crime is rampant. Glass is visible from broken car windows. Don’t leave valuables in your car. The city has to do better!
Alexander C — Google review
Beatiful ang huge place. You have to pay to use the pools. The public one is a bit dangerous if you want to swim. I think it’s $5 if you live in Austin and $9 if you don’t. No admission fee and there’s a parking lot.
Bruna — Google review
Lots of people but lots of space. Parking wasnt difficult. Walking amd bike trails are great. There are a few detours due to maintenance.

This was a fun place to see all the music acts for the music festival and what a view of the city!! Wow! Definitely want to go here when not music takeover but definitely would do ACL again!

We love exploring Zilker Park! It's well kept and the park staff seem to genuinely enjoy their job. My kids especially like the statues and bridges that go over the train tracks and lead to other parts of the playground. The Zilker Eagle Train ride is really neat, with great views of the park, Barton Springs and the cityscape.

Tau Ceti, the tallest public artwork in Austin, is a mesmerizing mural by Josef Kristofoletti. Inspired by a star in the constellation Cetus similar to Earth's sun, this 10-story masterpiece brings vibrant color to the once dull corner of Brazos and East Second streets. Visitors flock to capture selfies against its radiant backdrop. The concept behind Tau Ceti is the reflection of light in rainbow colors through windows and into buildings, creating a cosmic and magical ambiance.
They painted the corner gap of a building with a rainbow pattern. It looks cool and definitely makes the neighborhood more attractive.
Matt B — Google review
Epic photo op with this beautiful mural! I had the opportunity to be a part of a group dance that was filmed here. The mural provided a beautiful backdrop!
With A — Google review
It is conveniencely located in the downtown area. People really need to look up the location before visiting. Otherwise, it will be easily missed. Looking at the rainbow colors from different angles makes it very interesting. It is definitely an eye catcher if you can find it.
Bianca C — Google review
Super nice spot if you love photography. There are times when you may have done wait times but when we reached the spot it was empty! Parking is a problem because it’s difficult to find something nearby so you may have to walk a little but it’s a must visit if you are at Downtown Austin. The colors are so vibrant that you’ll feel “WOW” 🤩

Tallest mural in Austin, 103 feet by local artist. I bet tons of pictures are done at this spot. Very Impressive, cosmic magical place.

What a stunner! It was empty on a Sunday afternoon to get a quick photoshoot in. I’m glad it was cloudy because the sun makes the colors a bit dull. I promise all those scuff marks were already there lol

The Blanton Museum of Art, situated on the University of Texas campus, is a must-visit destination. Boasting 180,000 square feet, it holds the title of being the largest university art museum in the United States and houses Central Texas's most extensive public-owned art collection.
A beautiful, well-curated museum that surprised me in the best way. The mix of classical, modern, and Latin American art feels fresh, thoughtful, and balanced. It’s not overwhelming, but it definitely makes you stop, look, and feel. The space itself is stunning—full of light, bold architecture, and immersive installations. Some rooms feel almost spiritual in how they’re arranged. If you’re in Austin and enjoy art, or just want a calm and inspiring place to wander, this museum is a total gem. Absolutely worth the visit.
JESUS P — Google review
The Blanton Museum is a must-visit in Austin. It has an impressive collection of art ranging from European classics to contemporary works, plus unique rotating exhibitions. The building itself is beautiful and easy to explore, with plenty of space to enjoy the art without feeling crowded. Highlights include the modern installations and the stunning architecture of the atrium. A great place to spend a few hours and appreciate world-class art right in the city!
Liyan — Google review
My visit to the Blanton Museum of Art was an inspiring and enjoyable experience. The museum’s collection is beautifully curated, offering a rich blend of classical, modern, and contemporary works. I especially appreciated the thoughtfully designed galleries and the striking architecture, which added to the overall atmosphere. You could easily spend about couple hours at the museum. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a casual visitor, the Blanton is a must-see destination in Austin.
Arch S — Google review
One of the best art museums in Texas. The large, spacious and intricate work on each wall was such a blast to explore over the weekend. I greatly enjoyed every piece.. Although at times there were a few kids running around and yelling, there were plenty of staff members to ensure proper behavior. We purchased our tickets online which made the process easy. The young women at the front desk were nice and informative. We will totally be back again! P.S the parking wasnt a pain at all and affordable compared to other cities downtown area.
Daisy V — Google review
Fun place to hang out and stare at art. There are free guided tours you can take, fun interesting stuff to learn from different paintings and eras. Shoutout to Rohini for explaining the different paintings from the Spanish/renaissance era. I'm not big into art but still found it lovely.
Pushkaraj J — Google review
Worth the trip on the free admission Tuesday’s! Relatively small museum with a great gift shop for unique + high quality pieces. Front desk staff and docents were all super friendly. Buildings architecture is gorgeous and there’s a great shaded park to sit at near the entrances for a coffee break or picnic lunch.
Cait T — Google review
The museum is well done, quiet and decently sized. Their collection is not huge, but there is plenty to see. We enjoyed the late hours on Saturday. Appreciated the free locker and clean bathrooms. Staff were friendly and kind.
Prarthana K — Google review
When we arrived to purchase the tickets, two girls at the front were engaged in gossip and laughter. They rudely redirected us to their coworker, allowing them to continue their conversation. Afterward, a group of girls arrived and assisted them. I’ve visited numerous museums, but this one left me feeling unimpressed. It seemed endless, and I was dreading the experience. Each piece of art had a lengthy description written in a tiny font that was difficult to read. Despite the shortcomings, I’m giving it two stars due to the beautiful Catholic art and the early church findings. However, the second floor featured an “sculpture” that criticized Catholicism. It appeared as if the Blanton Museum had taken a stance on every issue except religion. For instance, they used vague language in describing Catholic art pieces, such as “Jesus, who some people believe is the Messiah.” He is. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Bridge
The Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge in Austin, Texas is a popular spot for pedestrians and cyclists, offering stunning views of the city skyline and Lady Bird Lake. The bridge has become known for its ever-changing graffiti messages on the nearby Lamar train bridge, providing unique selfie opportunities. Spanning across Lady Bird Lake, this iconic bridge offers a perfect vantage point to capture Austin's striking architecture against the shimmering water.
Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge is a true hidden gem and one of the most beautiful spots in Austin! I highly recommend visiting in the early morning for a peaceful walk along Lady Bird Lake or in the evening to catch breathtaking sunsets over the Austin skyline. The view of the lake during sunset is nothing short of amazing! Around dusk, you might catch the spectacle of bats flying overhead — a quintessential Austin experience. The bridge is a fantastic spot to soak in the city’s vibrant atmosphere, with locals gathering to play music, fly drones, listen to talented musicians, or share a picnic. Whether you’re a local or a first-time visitor, this bridge perfectly encapsulates what Austin is all about. It’s serene and scenic while being lively and full of energy. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the stunning views of downtown and the Colorado River. Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge is a solid 10/10 for me, and I’ll absolutely visit every time I’m in Austin. It’s easy to get to, has an amazing vibe, and offers an unforgettable experience. Just a gentle reminder — please pick up after yourself and help keep Austin clean!💕
Kayla M — Google review
If you’re in Austin and looking for the perfect place to unwind in the evening, the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge is a must-visit. We went there just before sunset, and the experience was nothing short of magical. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the entire skyline lit up in shades of orange, pink, and purple, reflecting beautifully off the still waters of Lady Bird Lake. The bridge itself is wide, clean, and peaceful—ideal for a relaxed walk or a casual bike ride. There’s something calming about being surrounded by water and trees while still having views of the downtown skyline. It truly feels like you’re in the heart of the city and yet away from all the noise. The people you meet along the way—runners, families, dog walkers, and photographers—add to the friendly and welcoming vibe. One of the best parts was pausing midway through the bridge and just taking it all in. There are benches where you can sit and enjoy the breeze, and the occasional musician playing soft acoustic tunes nearby made the atmosphere even more serene. As night falls, the bridge lights up just enough to keep it safe while preserving the charm of the night sky. We even spotted kayakers paddling quietly below, adding to the laid-back, picturesque scene. Whether you’re visiting Austin or have lived here your whole life, the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge offers an evening escape that feels special every single time. It’s perfect for solo reflection, a romantic walk, or just soaking in Austin’s unique energy. Highly recommended!
Rahul N — Google review
Truly an Austin experience not to be missed! Just an absolute beautiful piece of Austin and I recommend getting up first thing in the morning running alongside the lake and then crossing the bridge to the other side, all the wall making sure to check out the herons and other wildlife you're bound to run across!

Some of the best views of the Austin downtown at night. Gives you an illusion of being away from the city overlooking the beautiful skyline but in reality you’re right in the middle!

Awesome bridge to take in amazing views of the city or just sit and enjoy the atmosphere,a romantic spot for lovers or to just hang out with friends and listen to performers play music, watch artists paint on canvases the image at night are breathtaking everything lights up beautifully.enjoy

The soccer fields are really nice and there is plenty of parking. There is what seems to be like a permanent construction/landscaping project going on but otherwise really nice

Love this little pedestrian only bridge! Connects the two trails on either side of the river, has an off leash dog park on one side. Multiple ways to get on/off with an accessible ramp, stairs, and even a longer walkway that goes further to yet another green area and dog park Gorgeous views too, can watch the river and sunset from here and admire the skyline

The Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge in Austin, Texas, is indeed a great spot for jogging, with its scenic views and wide path providing a pleasant environment for exercise. The sunset from the bridge is particularly beautiful, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors to enjoy the changing colors of the sky over Lady Bird Lake. The atmosphere on the bridge is often enhanced by people playing music, adding a lively and enjoyable ambiance to the area. It's a relaxing place to spend time, whether you're taking a leisurely stroll, sitting and taking in the views, or enjoying the performances of street musicians.Additionally, the bridge's picturesque setting and the backdrop of the Austin skyline make it a popular spot for filming. You might come across people shooting videos or taking photos for various projects, from professional film shoots to casual social media posts. Overall, the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge is a vibrant and welcoming space that offers a bit of everything for those looking to enjoy the outdoors in the heart of Austin.

The "I Love You So Much" Mural is a famous photo spot located on the side of Jo's Coffee shop in Austin. Created by local musician Amy Cook as a peace offering to her partner Liz Lambert, the red cursive script against the pale green wall has become an iconic symbol of love and friendship. Visitors flock to this mural daily to capture memories with friends and family, making it a must-visit location in Austin.
Definitely a nice spot for people from out of town to take pictures on. There was no line when we went to take pictures of the mural as it was 4pm. The surrounding area is also nice with shops and restaurants. It is on the high end though so just be aware of that.

Texas native who had NEVER been to this mural, so it felt like a must-do during my last visit to Austin. while I agree it is cute! it was definitely underwhelming 😅 its a simple wall with simple words but maybe that's what adds to the beauty and allure of it. On the plus side, it is in the middle of a busy street with lots of shops nearby! if you're in the area, then its worth it to get that insta-pic but I wouldn't drive cross county or state for it.

Zilker Botanical Garden is a 31-acre oasis within Zilker Park, offering a variety of attractions such as ponds, trails, and educational programs for kids. The garden features a herb garden, an Oriental Garden, and a butterfly garden that is best visited from April to October to see migrating butterflies. Additionally, the Hartman Prehistoric Garden showcases plants from the Cretaceous period along with dinosaur tracks and a bronze sculpture of an Ornithomimus.
So glad we visited the Zilker Botanical Garden. We were short on time so we just explored the Japanese Garden- it was beautiful! Such a fun, calm space to spend time in and walk around - and it has a great view of the Austin skyline. Plenty of parking, tickets are as listed on the website ($8 per person, slightly lower if you are an Austin resident) - you can buy tickets at the entrance prior to parking. This is one of those places that will really make you like the city - not a hidden gem but for sure an essential space to truly liking the city.

Zilker Botanical Garden is a beautiful and peaceful place right in the heart of Austin. The grounds are well designed, with winding paths that take you through a variety of themed gardens, including the Japanese garden, rose garden, and cactus and succulent areas. The koi ponds, waterfalls, and shaded walkways make it a relaxing spot to stroll and enjoy nature. It’s a great place for photography, a quiet walk, or just a break from the busy city. The garden is not huge, but it’s full of charm and very well maintained. Definitely worth a visit if you’re spending time in Austin!

This place will provide with a very calm, quiet and peaceful experience for anyone who loves nature, searches for greenery, loves scenic views and flowers 🌸! There are a lot of trees of different types and origins, which I guessed were organized in a disciplined way with designated areas. Those individual gardens have different names. As far as I can remember, there were japanese garden, cactus garden, hartman prehistoric garden and so on. I went during summer time, I don't know if it was an ideal time to visit, but I was mesmerized by the diversity and color of flowers. There is also a small waterfall, several scenic spots with small pedestrian bridges, water maze. Also a great place for photography, solo or group tour or just walking and refreshing the mind. I don't usually visit the same tourist spot multiple times, however, I wish if I could go there once more. 😇
Shoumik K — Google review
Zilker Botanical Garden ⭐️⭐️ The koi fish were plentiful and lovely to watch, but overall the garden felt smaller than expected with very few flowers in bloom. The rose garden was non-existent during my visit, and the lily pond looked a bit neglected — it’s unclear whether that’s due to the season or general upkeep. Parking is tight, and the paths can be uneven, which may be difficult for visitors with mobility or stability concerns. The noise from the nearby main road is also distracting at times when cars race by, taking away from the tranquility you’d hope for in a botanical garden. While it’s worth a quick stroll if you’re already nearby, true garden lovers may want to save their time for other destinations.
Marissa T — Google review
Great botanical garden with plenty of shade, seating, and relaxing spots. The cactus area is small but nice. Bonsai garden was disappointing—fenced off and no details like tree ages. Views are lovely, especially by the pond with fish and seating. Flower collection was underwhelming compared to other gardens I’ve seen. May be because of weather. Overall, a good experience—I especially enjoyed the pond, fish, and small waterfall.

The kind of botanical gardens fit to represent the austere community of Austin, Texas. Zilker Botanical Gardens is set on a gentle slope with numerous capable trails, mature gardens, with a highlight for early evolutionary plantae (prehistoric) and a great Japanese water with perfect balance. Zilker is an easy walk from DT Austin and parking is available when the garden is open. Pro tip: treat yourself and a close companion to an early morning and start by trying to find the rose gardens!

Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve is a serene 21-acre sanctuary in West Austin, offering short hiking trails, a historic cottage, and beautiful gardens overlooking Lake Austin. The park is home to free-roaming peacocks, adding a unique charm to the surroundings. Visitors can witness the full mating and life cycles of these colorful birds while exploring the grounds for free. With its picturesque setting, including coy ponds and lush greenery, Mayfield Park provides an ideal backdrop for photography enthusiasts.
It’s free to visit and see the peacocks in the park! There’s plenty of parking, and a small path where you can take a nice walk. It’s really interesting to watch the male peacocks spread their feathers to attract the females. It’s a great little outing, especially for kids they’ll love seeing the peacocks up close!
Mai P — Google review
Mayfield Park is a great nature preserve. They have peacocks that roam freely in the courtyard. Don’t get too close to them, but they’re beautiful to see from a distance. One was singing to us early this morning when we saw them. It’s mostly a good nature preserve for young children as the trails tend to be on the shorter side, but the views of the river are interesting. You can walk up to Mount Bonnell and see some of the breathtaking view of the river, too. It would provide a much longer hiking experience.
Boris V — Google review
First thing to know, I didn’t see any restrooms anywhere, so plan ahead before you go. I’ve been to Mayfield Park and Preserve a few times now, at 3505 W 35th St, Austin, TX 78703, and every visit has its own mood. Sometimes it’s quiet, calm, and you just see the peacocks wandering through the gardens like royalty. Other times, they’re putting on their own full-blown concert, calling back and forth so loud you can hear it across the park. Either way, it’s beautiful. The trails wind through shaded trees, and there’s this feeling that time slows down for a bit while you’re there. If you’re coming from downtown Austin, take 35th Street west toward Mount Bonnell Road and watch for the little stone sign on your right. The entrance and parking lot are small, easy to miss, but once you’re inside, it feels like a secret escape tucked right inside the city.
Story F — Google review
Visit early morning or late evening. Due to nature of the park, it may be hot. Parking is free and usually not filled out..if it is you can park on the street. This is amazing place to visit with friends and family because it has two different attractions here. One is actual park with peacocks and garden and other one is multiple trails. Directions are bit loose on Trails so take a picture trail maps. One with white door is the entrance of garden while next to borders or through garden is Trails. Trails are bit hard to follow as there aren't dedicated signs to follow at all times. For example, you can start at one trail however, in the middle the trail, it will split into two ways and you just have to try both and see which one is most utilized or right way to go..however, you will not get lost as people are walking by and trails are short. You will have good view of lake and amazing pictures to take and explore. Bring atleast 3 gallons of water. Rest rooms are actively maintained and water fountain is not available. Portable restrooms are available but as you can guess, they are not that good.
SHIVA V — Google review
If you’re looking for a unique hiking experience, this is the one for you. It’s a shorter hike and you can stop and see the peacocks! The peacock area is super cool and relaxing. Good memory maker!

So pretty! It's free, you just walk in. No dogs allowed though. Many places to take photos/pose, very cool plants, many friendly peacocks, pretty ponds, etc.
Haylee — Google review
This place was beautiful. It could be a little hard for some to walk because of roots and rocks but is fairly level for mast parts and they add stairs with small steps and plenty of foot room. The ponds were beautiful along with the gardens. We only saw one peacock but it was stunning.

South Congress Bridge, located in downtown Austin, is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. Every summer night, around 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats emerge from under the bridge, creating a spectacular sight that attracts hundreds of visitors. The best time to witness this natural phenomenon is at dusk when the bats take flight for their nightly hunt. The view of downtown Austin from the bridge is stunning and adds to the experience of watching the bats in action.
Well the evening we went , of course , a storm was coming which come to find out changes their normal routine.. but it was really cool to see how it could be had they all taken flight as per usual.. we will make it back. It’s a short drive from Houston. 2.5 hours..

This is one of those sights you need to make time for. We ended up sitting on some rocks under the bridge, came straight back to the hotel to wash my hair!😅 Seeing this huge bat colony flying around is a wild and unique experience. Highly recommend!
Angela V — Google review
We came to see the bat colony under the Congress Avenue Bridge and had a great time! The atmosphere was fun — there was a bit of a sunset party vibe with a DJ in the parking lot and ice cream trucks for refreshments. We parked at the Austin American-Statesman lot, which gave us easy access and a solid viewing spot. From there you can walk down for a good view of the bats emerging from under the bridge. If you have a kayak, you can even launch from the shore here and get an amazing view from the water. Definitely check sunset times and recent emergence reports so you don’t miss them. The bats themselves were incredible to watch, flying out in steady streams and following the treetops like pathways as they headed off to hunt. A unique and unforgettable Austin experience!
Michael G — Google review
An incredible and unique Austin experience! We came to the Congress Avenue Bridge to watch the bats, and it was a truly spectacular sight. We arrived about an hour before sunset to get a good spot on the sidewalk. The crowd was lively and everyone was excited. The emergence itself was amazing. The bats streamed out from under the bridge in a huge, swirling mass—it felt like a scene from a nature documentary. We could even hear the sound of their wings as they flew overhead. Watching from the bridge was great, but we also found there were many places to grab food and drinks nearby, which made the evening even better. We were able to get some snacks and drinks beforehand and then had a great spot for dinner afterward. If you're visiting Austin, this is a definite must-do. Just be prepared for crowds and arrive early to snag a good spot!
Marshall C — Google review
The Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin is one of the coolest spots in the city. By day, it’s just a regular bridge connecting downtown to South Congress, but at sunset, it turns into something amazing — over a million bats fly out from underneath it! It’s wild to see the sky fill up with them, especially during the summer. You can watch the show right from the bridge, the trails by the lake, or even from a kayak on Lady Bird Lake. It’s one of those classic Austin experiences that feels a little weird, a little magical, and totally worth checking out if you’re in town.
Arch S — Google review
For bat viewing you can stage either north or south of the bridge, on the east side. People were also lined on top of the bridge, looking down, but that was in full sun. There are boat rides you can book as well.
Carrie W — Google review
Staying at the JW means its only 5 minutes walk. If u time it right ie get there 30 minutes before sundown u get to witness mother nature at her best. Over 1.3M bats taking off for their nightly hunt. Its all over in 10-15 minutes and folks will start heading out.
Keng L — Google review
I came for BatFest in September and loved the experience! I lived in Austin previously but had never come to see the bats before. I don’t know if they were intentional with the timing of the fest, but it coincided with the full moon!

The Oasis On Lake Travis is a remarkable dining destination that offers more than just delicious food and drinks. Perched on a cliff, it provides stunning views of Lake Travis from its tiered outdoor decks, making it one of the largest alfresco restaurants in America. Renowned as the Sunset Capital of Texas, it's famous for its breathtaking sunsets over the lake.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Review We decided to visit The Oasis on Lake Travis on a completely spontaneous whim on a Thursday at 3:30 p.m.— and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made! From the moment we arrived, the place took our breath away. The stunning views of Lake Travis, the warm and lively ambience, and the relaxed energy all came together to create an unforgettable experience. The food was phenomenal! I ordered the Paella, which was full of flavor and beautifully presented, while my companion enjoyed the Stuffed Avocado — both dishes were absolutely delicious. The service was top-notch as well. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the entire staff made us feel welcome. Even the photographer captured a perfect “memory to remember” picture that we’ll truly cherish. If you ever find yourself near the Lake Travis / Austin area, I highly recommend stopping by The Oasis on Lake Travis. What started as a spontaneous idea turned into an amazing experience — one we definitely didn’t regret!

The place is beautiful, especially for watching the sunset with a stunning view of the lake. If you’re visiting in the summer, it’s best to arrive between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. to avoid the worst heat and still catch the sunset. 🍹 The drinks are really good. 🍽️ The food is just okay—could be better in terms of flavor and presentation. 🙌 The service was excellent, especially considering the waiters have to go up and down stairs in the heat. Our server, Andree, was super kind and attentive the entire time. Definitely worth it for the view and relaxed atmosphere. Great for a calm afternoon with friends or as a couple.
Monica G — Google review
Had a wonderful time with family ! The restaurant is in a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset with a stunning view of the lake and a cold beer 🍺 The best time to visit is in the evening before sunset. There’s a $10 entry fee per person, but it’s redeemable for food or drinks. It’s definitely one of the best places to visit around Austin! It does get very busy, so don’t expect exceptional food — but the beer and atmosphere are fantastic 🍻
Kanchan A — Google review
The Oasis is definitely one of the best places in Austin to soak in a breathtaking sunset while enjoying a relaxing dinner. The vibe is amazing, especially when sitting on the deck watching the sun set over Lake Travis. The food really pairs well with the view. The vegetable fajitas were fresh and delicious, and the fresh dish paella was surprisingly tasty. Both dishes are perfectly seasoned and satisfying. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for a scenic meal with friends and family. I’m especially happy to hear that the lady doll on the entrance bench, which had gone missing earlier, is back home. Say hello to her next time visit!

We had the fajitas for 2 and we came in the evening. It was nice because there’s a lot of seating both inside and outside. And even though we weren’t near the live music, we were still able to hear them perform. The decorations are so cute and inviting! It’s fun that the gift shop has locks that you can purchase to attach to the fence as a nice remembrance of your visit to the oasis. Our server was wonderful and the food came out almost immediately! It smelled delicious and was delicious while it was still hot!

Highly recommended for families and visitors — truly a memorable experience! 🌅✨💙

From the ambiance and location perspective, this place is literally the oasis. From its amazing views over the river and the cliff to the sky view... Just mesmerizing all around. Unfortunately, that's where the good stops. Ordered the chef's special saffron Paella and it was cold, watery and the meats were all frozen meat heated. Not good at all. The flan was acceptable. The chips and guacamole were decent. The service was very average. Will again just for coffee or drinks and the views.

Barton Springs Municipal Pool is a renowned natural spring area and a popular hangout spot in Austin. It is located within Zilker Metropolitan Park, which also houses other attractions like the Zilker Botanical Gardens and the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum. The pool, with its 68-degree waters, attracts locals and tourists alike for swimming and sunbathing.
🏊🏻‍♂️🧘‍♂️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A natural oasis in the heart of Austin! Barton Springs Municipal Pool is hands down one of the best spots to cool off during those hot Texas summers. Fed by natural spring water, the pool stays a refreshing 68–70°F year-round, which feels amazing when escaping Austin’s heat. Whether you’re swimming laps or lounging under the trees, it’s always relaxing and peaceful. Surrounded by lush greenery and located right next to the Barton Creek Greenbelt, this place is perfect for a full day outdoors. The natural setting gives it a serene, almost hidden gem vibe. It’s both family-friendly and ideal for solo swimmers looking for calm. Do note that the entrance can be a bit confusing for first-timers due to construction and limited signage. But once inside, you’re rewarded with a unique experience that strikes a beautiful balance between nature and community recreation. The spring is cold (brace yourself!), and since it’s a natural bottom, some areas get deep quickly—so keep an eye on kids or weaker swimmers. Admission is affordable ($9), and it opens early at 5 AM. Located at 2131 William Barton Dr, Austin, TX 78746, it’s easily accessible and well worth the visit. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Austin. Don’t forget to explore the upstream greenbelt trails for more hidden natural pools!
Ramin H — Google review
I was born and raised in Austin, and this place never gets old, in fact it just gets more beautiful. I worked here about 4 summers as a lifeguard around 2009, and I can tell you from behind the scenes, safety is of utmost importance, guards are trained often and rigorously tested physically and mentally, and scenarios with emergency response crews from the area (EMS, Police, etc) are done on occasion. Barton Springs in particular runs a tight ship- you have to with thousands of visitors daily during the summer. Over the years they have not only improved on the grounds, but continue to keep it's original Austin appeal, even when renovations occur. The water is a consistent chilly 68°-70° (some of the spring water comes up at the bottom of the drop off by the diving board where it's coldest), lots of work is done on Thursdays by guards and frequently by biologists to maintain the natural state and save the salamanders (more so in Eliza Springs attached) but also keep it safe for patrons. No food or drink is allowed as they cannot spray for bugs so as not to contaminate the water and grounds. There are two entrances (Southside and the main entrance through Zilker Park) and it does cost money in the summers but it is currently free until March (we're in November now). They also use to offer free swim from like 5-9am and 9-10pm but not sure if that's still a thing. Parking can be difficult but that's to show how popular it is being an oasis in the heart of Austin. You will see ALL different types of people in all different types of dress (including topless & thongs) but everyone is at the Springs to chill and have a good time (I've also heard the water is a great hangover cure). There are living animals in and around the "pool" such as turtles, ducks, cormorants, fish, salamanders, and at one point there was some sort of eel at the spillway end. There is also plenty of algae and plant growth but everything is harmless and visible in the clear refreshing water. The pool starts at zero depth and continues to on to maybe 6-7ft aside from the dicing area which I believe is 12-13+ feet (it's been awhile and I can't remember exactly anymore). You can see downtown Austin from the pool and sunsets are beautiful. It is wheelchair and stroller friendly, you just have to follow the ramp down to the deck. The bathrooms are large and clean (and cleaned regularly by the guards) with lots of changing areas and bathrooms. Barton Springs has a rich history that it strives to upkeep, especially by the S.O.S - Save Our Springs Alliance. I suggest you wear your swimsuit, pack a blanket, a towel, and some water bottles (no coolers allowed), and head on over with your friends to chill on the hill and watch some crazy people doing crazy tricks off the diving board; you won't be disappointed!

OMG this was our favorite stop in Austin. One side is a pay-to-enter swimming hole and there is another hidden free-to-enter entrance that serves as a much smaller swimming hole for the doggies. We had such a great time interacting with the locals and playing with the cute, energetic dogs we didn’t want to leave. Note that the doggie entrance is hidden amongst the trees and down a very steep hill (which is a bit tricky to get up and down). If you are a lover of animals the doggie side is a MUST. We didn’t pay to enter the other side but it is huge and looks soooo cool. If we had our swimming suits we def would’ve gone! What amazed me about the doggie side (and really Austin in general) is how welcome the locals made us. What was also cool is how everyone looked after everyone else’s dogs, taking turns throwing balls for them in the water. You don’t even need to take your own dog here to take part in the action and appreciate this place! ❤️

Barton Springs Municipal Pool – A Classic Austin Experience Barton Springs is an absolute gem. We had no trouble grabbing tickets at the window with good old-fashioned cash (just a heads-up: cash only!). While we didn’t use the ticket kiosks, we saw plenty of people struggling with them—lots of confused faces and short lines of frustrated folks. Do yourself a favor and just head to the window. There’s a fair bit of construction going on right now, but it was super easy to navigate. Clear signs make the path to the pool straightforward. Once you’re in? Pure bliss. The water is cool, crisp, and refreshing—the perfect way to escape the Texas heat. It’s a true spring, so don’t expect bathwater temps, but once you’re in, it feels incredible. There’s a little something for everyone here—swimmers, floaters, jumpers, sunbathers, families, solo chillers. It’s also top-tier people watching. An authentic Austin spot that never disappoints.

This place was magnificent. It really was one of the highlights to my Austin adventure. It was comfortable and felt very safe. I will say the patrons were not as friendly as i would have expected but that is not the pools fault. The salamanders were soooo cute. I love it.

We went in October 2025 and the parking lot is at 1000 Azie Morton rd. We got there around 1230 pm On a monday and saw like 4 open spaces. No parking fee. 2 min walk to pool entry pay $9 cash or credit at machines. The pool area is huge. 6 lifeguards. No concessions inside. There is a changing trailer and bathrooms. Its pretty with trees and grass, cold water, squirrels all around, fluffy clouds, sunshine, overall real good vibe.

The Austin Motel is a unique 1938 motor lodge with individually decorated rooms and a distinctive kidney-shaped pool. The motel's iconic red marquee and ever-changing quips have made it a popular spot for tourists and locals to capture on Instagram. However, the real highlight of this quirky South Congress hotel is its retro pool area, complete with red-and-white umbrellas reminiscent of a peppermint candy.
I had such a wonderful experience at the Austin Motel souvenir shop, thanks to Mattie! She provided exceptional customer service that made our visit truly memorable. My friends and I stopped by the shop, and one of them was experiencing Austin for the first time. Mattie went above and beyond to make them feel welcome and special. She was incredibly sweet, personable, and took the time to share interesting details about the items in the shop. Her genuine enthusiasm for Austin's culture shone through in every interaction, making the shopping experience feel personal and authentic. Mattie's warm personality and attentive service perfectly represented the friendly spirit of Austin. She helped create lasting memories for my friend's first visit to the city. If you're stopping by the Austin Motel shop, be sure to say hello to Mattie - she's a true gem! Thank you for making our visit so special, Mattie!

I love this motel! Yes, the retro style is done right. (I couldn’t stop taking photos of the courtyard). But the welcoming and downright COOL staff is what will bring me back. I wanted to find an affordable yet stylish place that exhibited the Austin personality and I found it! It’s laidback, beautiful and unpretentious. Go there!… and don’t forget brunch at the attached restaurant “Joanne’s”. The food is divine!

A quirky Austin gem for the whole family Right, so we just got back from a cracking stay at the Austin Motel, and honestly, it was an absolute delight. As a family, we're always on the hunt for places with a bit of character, and this spot absolutely delivered. First off, its retro-chic vibe is just super charming. You really do feel like you've zipped back to the '80s, but in the best possible way. It's a proper escape from the usual humdrum of modern city life, despite being right in the thick of things. Location-wise, it's brilliant – really close to the city centre and nestled in a rather trendy part of town. Plus, and this is always a win for families, they offer free parking, which is a definite bonus. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, and we were quite impressed with their rather clever messaging system before and after check-in; it made everything super smooth. One of the highlights for us was stumbling upon their full moon pool party. What a laugh! The kids (and us, to be fair) had an absolute blast splashing about. And for the most important bit, especially after a busy day of exploring: the beds were incredibly comfortable. We were in a building out back, and it was wonderfully quiet, ensuring a truly relaxing night's sleep for everyone. All in all, the Austin Motel is a unique little find, and we'd genuinely recommend it for families looking for something a bit different.

Austin Motel – Funky and Fun Vibes Didn’t stay the night, but had to stop in and check out the lobby and gift shop—glad I did. The whole place has that perfect retro-Austin charm. Picked up a great ashtray and could’ve easily walked out with a bag full of quirky souvenirs. Super cool spot just to browse and soak in the vibe. Definitely worth popping into even if you’re not staying there!

I called about a missing item that we have been looking for since our stay. We realized that we might have left them there after a series of travel. When I asked the front desk over the phone, I described the item, told her the date, which was about 2 weeks ago. She asked what I was looking for, I gave her a description of my super cool earrings and the date I stayed, which was just two weeks ago. Her response, "oooo that was a long time ago" (it's been two weeks) And proceeded to tell me within 15 seconds she has checked the lost and found long and they don't have anything of that description from the entire month of August... That was really quick and short and I'm pretty sure she's wearing them! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

South Congress Avenue, also known as SoCo, is a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood in Austin. It's a popular destination for visitors looking to experience the city's unique culture. The area is lined with an array of restaurants, boutiques, vintage stores, art galleries, and music venues. Visitors can enjoy strolling down the avenue while taking in colorful street art and sampling delicious local cuisine.
Cool, short street food walking, shopping, and eating. But be ready to spend some money at shops like Lulu and Birkenstock. Lots of iconic venues, notably Gueros and Home Slice. Boots ‘n cowboy hats at Allen’s. Lively couple blocks.

South Congress on a Rainy Day (Update as of July 2025) Spent a rainy afternoon strolling down South Congress Avenue, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful experiences I’ve had in Austin lately. Even with the light drizzle, the street kept its signature charm—quirky shops, neon signs, and friendly locals, just with a much calmer vibe. The rain seemed to keep the usual crowds away, which made it easier to explore without rushing. I ducked into spots like Allen’s Boots, browsed some gems at South Congress Books, and grabbed a warm latte at Jo’s Coffee (yes, even in the rain, the “I love you so much” wall is still a photo must). It felt cozy, nostalgic, and honestly kind of magical. There’s something special about seeing South Congress this way—slightly quieter, a little softer, but still full of life. It reminded me why this strip is such a staple of Austin culture. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or you’re a local like me just revisiting old favorites, this spot always delivers.

Can’t believe I’ve never been here! My sons visited me this weekend and they know ATX more than I do! This street can get busy and hot! Today there were so many street vendors and different events I got so engrossed didn’t get to take a lot of pics. Portion of the strip has the original stores for well known boot makers! You smell the leather as you pass the street and it’s quite the Texan air! I love the On Cloud shop too! Quirky yet cute hotels nothing quite like it! The Austin Motel has that real vintage feeling you can work through the courtyard and the entrance hall has a shop. So much line on the pizza street area they even have a Photo Booth. The church grounds was a beautiful retreat they have benches underneath shady trees. Parking: not a lot of choice but when you find one—-easy to pay with the app or the site. 5$ for 2 hours. They have a lot of shops with the permanent jewelry and it’s a thing here! Vintage clothes for sale on the street and even boots. Food places can get crowded but they have outdoor areas where you can have your pups with you if need be. The vibe was great and fun!

The University of Texas at Austin is a prominent higher education institution known for its extensive research program and expansive campus featuring four museums. The university's rich history is showcased through various landmarks, including statues of influential figures like Barbara Jordan. Additionally, the campus boasts unique features such as buildings constructed with Texas limestone that showcase fossil imprints. On game days, the university comes alive with enthusiastic Longhorn fans and rival supporters filling the stadium and surrounding grounds for an unforgettable experience.
UT Austin isn’t just a top-tier school — it’s a machine. World-class academics, booming innovation, top-ranked programs across engineering, business, and liberal arts, and all located in one of the most vibrant, opportunity-rich cities in the country. You come here to build empires, not just take notes. Compare that to UC Davis — the UC system’s most overhyped compost pile. At UT, you’re encouraged to think boldly, speak freely, and lead. At Davis, you better memorize the groupthink script or risk being socially exiled by people who confuse activism with intellectual depth. Independent thought? Questioning norms? At Davis, that’s how you get flagged as “problematic” by students who can’t handle a basic debate without clutching their pearls. Let’s talk numbers: UT Austin grads are walking into six-figure careers, startups, and grad schools that matter. UC Davis grads? ~$54K median income 10 years after enrolling. That’s not success — that’s a participation trophy with a student loan attached. UT Austin builds leaders. UC Davis builds compliant mid-level staffers with LinkedIn bios full of buzzwords and zero real impact. So yeah — Hook ’em. We’re not the same…..

McKinney Falls State Park, located in Austin where Onion Creek and Williamson Creek meet, is a popular destination for camping, hiking, biking, and fishing. The park features the impressive McKinney Falls as well as 'Old Baldy,' a 500-year-old cypress tree. With over eighty campsites available for reservation at affordable rates, it offers convenient access to outdoor enthusiasts.
We lucked out with light rain, which kept crowds away from the lower falls. To be in the middle of Austin, this park still allows you to separate and feels secluded. We loved that there were plenty of areas away from the trail to tuck away and enjoy the peace along the water. The rock shelves that were used as shelter for people of the past have been well preserved and were unique to this park. Park staff were friendly and attentive and the park facilities were well kept.
Mallorie B — Google review
It was good but there weren’t directions anywhere except a couple of places. If we wanted to go to a specific landmark or trail, we had to guess. Couldn’t find old bald cypress tree because of the lack of directions. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. I really wish the park had more directions to guide the tourists.

We had a great visit, even though were rained out most of the visit. The part is great in it's location if you want to see Austin, but definitely still feels "away". The campground were very nice and the access to Onion Creek to play in the water is wonderful. Unfortunately, we did not get to check out the trails. The staff, facilities, visitors center and all else was great. We'll be back for a visit with better weather!

An amazing trails, it's easy to get around and has such beautiful sites, it was my first hike and I loved every bit of it. Thank you 🩷 it took the onion creek trail ( for hiking and bikes )

What a jewel in Austin’s backyard. Quiet, lots of space between camp sites, 50amp for those hot days, big camp area for tents, flat rv sites, friendly hosts and staff. Generally clean save for what comes down the creek. Great trails, history, beautiful falls and rock formations to remind you we are all just renting on mother nature’s property.

Entry is near riverside drive and 1st street. Parking isn’t close by unless you park at the long center. Street parking is somewhat far but it’s an easy walk. There are ride options parked outside after the event if you’d rather not walk. Seating is on the grass. People brought chairs and blankets. You can bring an empty water bottle and fill it up at a water refill station.

More like a 4.5… Nice! April 2025, never been here. Came to see Acro Cats! ❤️🐱 Rollins Theater is so intimate, with roomy seating and it’s nice and COOL (I run very 🥵!)…it looked so much bigger and with many more seats on the website when I chose seats and paid (a very easy procedure and I chose for my tickets to me mailed to me). Seats are riser-style (but with nice chairs), so great views for all. No need to pay more…all seats are great; it’s very small (maybe we’re just in one section, walled off). If you wear 🤓, though, you’ll want them. Outrageous parking (to me…$20), but I think it was available further away for half that, so just plan better than we did...but really the only reason for ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️…and it seems to be avoidable (though I can’t speak for a huge show or whatever else they do there). Show was 7 pm on a Saturday and zero bad traffic (that certainly CAN happen, even on weekends) or crowds. Reggae Fest was across the street…Jah! No resulting crowds. (Photos show the delightful show more than they do the facility…but there were no bad seats in there.)

Red Bud Isle is a 13-acre off-leash dog park located on the shores of Lady Bird Lake in Austin. It's a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. The island is surrounded by the scenic beauty of cypress trees and sandy beach areas where locals gather during the warmer months. Visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards from nearby businesses to explore the lake.
My zen land! Amazing, peaceful place where you can hike, kayak, paddleboard, fish, and picnic — but maybe not swim. Swimming is usually not allowed, but the place is definitely worth the trip. I'm never disappointed... unless I don’t get there early enough to find a parking spot. The parking lot is small, so if you come in the middle of the afternoon on a weekend, you might have to wait to park.
Amal B — Google review
Beautiful dog park, to walk your dogs off-leash! Our dogs absolutely loved it, especially since they were able to jump into the water, if you can find an area that is not occupied by people who fish!! The negative parts are that many people fish exactly on all the water entrance parts, and there are numerous fishing lines and fishing hooks lying around by all the water entrance areas. My 5 month old puppy almost swallowed a small fish that was still attached to a hook and line that was lying around. You have to watch yourself and your dog in every step to not step on one near the water.
Marianna T — Google review
So majestic and beautiful, a bit disappointed it took me so long to get here, but we timed it perfectly on a Sunday right before a short rainstorm so it was mellow in terms of the crowd. Only a couple other dogs- everyone else’s were on a leash so I put mine on a leash after a little bit too. She loved roaming around though. Appreciated the posted signs of poison ivy as well as the algae to be aware of especially if you have a dog.

First time visiting Austin and I had looked up places to visit and this was one of them. It did not disappoint 👏🏻 the view was spectacular and you don't have to walk much to catch a glimpse of such beautiful views. The parking lot is quite small though but we didn't have to wait too long before a space became available. It was peaceful and seems like a lot of people like taking their dogs there since I saw many that day. Also saw a family fishing🎣 not sure if there's restrooms but I didn't see any myself nor drawn on the map guide at the entrance.

Red Bud Isle is an absolutely 𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 location for photos, especially in the fall and spring when it becomes almost magical. There are plenty of backdrops to keep things interesting, and the light is gorgeous with so many trees everywhere. Definitely keep a couple of things in mind: 1) Parking is extremely limited, in the park and around the area. There is a permanent sign there telling you where to wait in line for parking spots, if that gives you an idea! There's also not really a spot nearby to park and walk. Build in extra time to wait in that line if you want to be on time for your photos ◡̈ 2) Dogs are there! It was originally (could still be?) a dog park, so you'll definitely see a few dogs, likely off leash. This could be a pro or a con for you! 3) That being said, the water is 𝗻𝗼𝘁 safe for pups, so be extremely cautious and know if your dog listens (or doesn't) when you tell her not to do something like drink the water.

I absolutely love Red Bud Isle Park! The park boasts a smooth, easily navigable trail and offers plenty of seating areas with lovely views of the lake. It's a perfect spot to relax and unwind. I often see happy dogs enjoying the park with their owners, making it a truly dog-friendly destination. This park is suitable for visitors of all ages. Even in the winter when the leaves aren't as vibrant, it remains a wonderful place to escape and find some peace.

The Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake is an extremely fun trail that stretches around Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin. Walking down it you get this hybrid sense of being somewhere quiet and relaxing, yet still surrounded by Austin’s ever expanding infrastructure. It is quite a lengthy trail that we have only gone through parts of but every time we’ve walked through it, it’s been an enjoyable experience. It can get quite busy at times with families, joggers, and bikes zipping around. Highly dog friendly but just remember to watch for bikes as some cyclists don’t call out their passing. Parking can be tricky but if you find a good spot (sorry, we’re gatekeeping ours) it shouldn’t be too bad. If you have anyone visiting you in Austin or it’s your first time here, we do recommend you check out this classic Austin trail!

Lovely area for a walk, with water views and the Austin skyline, though it's not really a "board"walk mostly concrete so you'll feel the heat radiating on warm days. Pretty widely built so no issues with two way traffic simultaneously. No public toilets around.

I love catching sunsets from this boardwalk. My absolute favourite spot to ride my scooter! This place is very pet friendly.

Austin is lucky that the city built this for its residents. You can bike, running along side the lake or enjoy nature with Austin skyline at the background. Broadwalk is only a small section of the overall Ann n Butler trail.

It’s a good trail to walk, run or for biking. Nice breeze beside the lady bird lake and great views from downtown. Definitely a must visit place.

Cute Nail Studio in Austin is a vibrant and colorful nail salon with a pastel rainbow exterior that makes it an Instagram-worthy spot. The studio draws inspiration from Asian trends and offers a variety of beauty services such as nails, lashes, brows, and waxing. Known for its cute and funky nail designs, the salon also features an adorable wall. The talented nail artists at Cute Nail Studio are praised for their creativity, with specific mention of Lorb's skill in creating animal-themed nail art.
I was recommended to go to this place by friends. I had “gel nail extensions with simple art” done by Maria Rodriguez. I love them so much! Maria listened to my requests, was real with me, gentle with my hands, and took her time in making my nails perfect. It’s worth it. They make me feel so cute. And speaking of cute, wow the studio aesthetic is immaculate. I feel like this place was made just for me. I loved it. The owner and the front desk people were friendly and helpful. The nail artists were generally kind to each other and seemed happy to be working there from what I could tell as a customer. It was clean and professional and they played a good mix of music. The space is on the smaller side and I was impressed that they have fume extractors at every table. It didn’t have the strong chemical smell of most salons. I heard they just had a new management change before I went so I would pay attention to the more recent reviews. Would recommend! ☺️ (And have recommended.)

I was in Austin for a work trip and decided to treat myself. When I looked up local nail salons and saw Cute Nail Studio I immediately knew I needed to visit. I was lucky enough to snag an appointment with Val for acrylic extensions. I showed up with a vision and a few photos I had pulled together. She totally nailed it! The result was even better than I had imagined. Highly recommend the studio and Val, my experience was perfect!

Gracie is honestly the best. She’s kind, professional, and down to earth which makes it easy being in the chair. Her work is always on point and never rushed. My nails turn out exactly how I want them (if not better!!) and I get compliments on them all the time. You can tell she truly cares about her craft and her clients. As much as I’d like to gatekeep, I recommend her to anyone who asks because she’s unmatched. The results speak for themselves, but her consistency and care have set the bar high for me and I’m grateful to have found her.

I had my first appointment at Cute Nail Studio with Lorb and it was perfect! She has such an eye for detail and was able to perfectly hand paint tiny details like a bow and arrow on one nail without even looking at a reference photo! I got a custom set of hard gel nails that were better than I envisioned. The whole staff is super kind and professional and I feel like the price is right on point for the quality you get. Will definitely be back! This was the best manicure I have ever had.

This was my first time at this nail studio, and I will absolutely be back! Taylor did my wedding gel extensions, and she exceeded all my expectations. She was so kind and welcoming and is a true artist. You can’t go wrong at this nail salon.

Worst pedicure experience of my life. The one star is for the kindness of the tech. However, the overall service was extremely disappointing. I came in for a simple pedicure with French tips, and it took over an hour just to remove two small pieces of gel polish on my big toes. I honestly could have peeled them off myself before walking in. There are no traditional pedicure chairs—just a thinly padded bench that was very uncomfortable for the entire duration of the service. The setup is not functional for pedicures, and for the prices they charge and the time it takes, you should be able to expect a basic level of comfort. Unfortunately, you will not find that here. The nail tech was very sweet and did her best, but it felt like she was set up to fail by the poor layout and lack of proper equipment. When I raised my concerns, the front desk associate kindly let me know that the owner does not offer refunds—only store credit. In the end, I paid $50 just to have two small pieces of gel removed. I don’t typically leave reviews, but I felt this experience was poor enough to share. I hope this helps someone new to the area who is simply looking for a normal, comfortable pedicure.

Cute Nail Salon is exactly that ! Cute Cute Cute! The staff are very pleasant and professional. Megan accepted to do my custom tattoo last minute. She was professional and a delight to meet and spend time with. Megan drew several sketches to ensure I’d be happy with my vision and offered many choices on size and placement. One of the best , probably best experience getting a tattoo. The outcome was better than I’d hoped for. She gained permanent client !

Sekrit Theater, located in an unassuming east Austin neighborhood, is a funky paradise and a favorite spot for photographers. It offers eclectic and artistic backdrops for various occasions such as proposals, maternity photos, family portraits, and events. The lush greenery throughout the summer provides an authentic feel of Austin's hip personality. This sprawling backyard-type environment features botanical gardens, strange architecture, a greenhouse, an old school bus, an outdoor bathtub, and more.
Chandeliers in trees, a bus, a magical greenhouse — every inch of this place is whimsical to explore. The first time I visited years ago, I came because my tattoo artist had shared he and his wife had their wedding here — and when I visited I was just in total awe of the magical spot— and I have been bringing back others since then. This visit my partner and I booked an afternoon slot so could show him this place and be creative with photography — next time we’re for sure going to book ahead to grab a golden hour slot next time to catch light in the greenhouse :)

I had no idea what I was walking into when we booked senior pictures at Sekrit Theater. But we opened the gate and walked into a fairy tale. It is magical, beautifully random, weird, and perfectly Austin. Everywhere you look you see something new and interesting. So an amazing gem hidden in East Austin!!

Sekrit Theatre never disappoints as a reliable venue for proposals! The pictures are always a dream and clients are always surprised this whimsical property is nestled into East Austin! @mckenzieallenphoto. Having captured 10+ proposals at this venue, I always feel confident arriving and creating a beautiful intimate proposal! If you’re looking for a planner - I often work with @amoreaustin! Honoring the booking time is crucial to respecting other clients who may be minutes away from their own proposal - as a friendly vendor, I’d like to add this note as a tip to photographers/planners/guests who book a certain amount of time <3 We are all a part of the magic! The venue does have a restroom and bug spray, however if you are particularly magnetic to mosquitos, where proper clothing and bring extra spray!

Beautiful venue!! It's so neat. Lots of great photos ops. Would highly recommend. However, we booked it until 2pm, the next party started at 2pm. There was nobody on site (if there were an issue between reservations...). A little prep/take down time between reservations would be nice.

The Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail is a 10-mile multi-use path that runs along both sides of Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin. It's a popular destination for hikers, bikers, and runners, offering scenic views of the Austin skyline and opportunities to relax in nearby parks like Auditorium Shores and Fiesta Garden. The trail also features a peaceful boardwalk on the south side of the lake, providing a serene escape from the city bustle.
One of Austin’s best places to walk and enjoy Town Lake. 12 miles of well kept trail. Bike or walk. Bikes can be a hazard sometimes when going too fast. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the natural beauty of the trail and lake and tons of wildlife.
Robert F — Google review
The trail/path is great. Easy, wide and well maintained. We rode our fat tire bikes and connected from the north end of Shoal creek trail. Overall it’s a great ride, walk or run, although it is super crowded especially on the weekends. The massive crowds are probably the only downside as you have to really pay attention and don’t have as much time to enjoy the scenery. You just need to be patient, and take your time. We made a stop at Ziker botanical gardens which was decent and they have a place to park your bike. We also stopped for lunch at Tumble 22 on the way back. There are plenty of spots to explore, pull off and enjoy the views or get food.

Wonderful walking trail by the Colorado river, a portion of it is a boardwalk over the river by the south bank. Great view of downtown. We only walked 3.5 miles of the long trail but will be back to explore more of it once we find free/city parking close to the trail. We parked in a very expensive parking lot by the Congress St bridge (bat bridge) - $25 for an hour!

Home Slice Pizza is a popular spot in Austin, known for its thin-crust slices and pies available for dining in or carry out, especially open late for takeaway on weekends. It's a go-to place for Northeast transplants seeking an authentic New York-style pie with the distinct aroma of cheese and tomato sauce. The classic Pepperoni and Mushroom slice is a favorite, while the White Clam Pizza offers a unique twist with chopped clams and garlic.
This place was incredible! I glad I found a great place to go when I need to get a good slice of pizza. I love the salad, I chose Pear Gorgonzola and I LOVED, highly recommend! Then the pizza came: half White Pie With Spinach and half white clam pizza. I we enjoy the combination. The service was great, she gave us options and offer the different drinks options, we ended up with lemonade which was really good. Finally, the place it's cozy, a bit dark inside but you can seat inside and outside (based on availability).

Want to start off by saying the restaurant itself is very cozy. Choice of booths, sitting at the bar, or a normal table. I’m a sucker for a booth so that’s what I went with. Milo who was my server was most pleasant and helpful with suggestions being my first time here. Had a beer to go along with the pizza and was pleasantly surprised. Initially just ordered a slice of pepperoni but after falling in love with that, and the server giving me a slice of sausage and garlic pizza I decided to take a box back to the hotel. Beer was incredible, pizza was out of this world and as my pops said “best pizza I’ve ever had”. Service was also outstanding and the atmosphere in general is great. Wish I lived here so I could be a regular of the place. Long story short this is the spot to go to if you’re in Austin and want a legit pizza!

Home Slice Pizza 🍕 My favorite NY style pizza in Austin. My cousin’s band Wiretree played here during one SXSW so I have fond memories of that but I have been visiting this restaurant for over a decade. It is a great place to just stop in for a slice. They now have a 2nd location next door so even more capacity. I have always had a great meal here and it is a mandatory stop on my visit. Giant slices and a wide variety of toppings as well. I will add more pictures of the food soon but suffice it to say this is a beloved spot for me when I am in ATX.

I came here with my son on a little weekend trip we took and it was so fun. It was the first thing we did after landing in Austin and it was a perfect start to the trip. We came around 930pm but the restaurant was still plenty full. The hostess was really nice and chatted with us about our trip. Out server was great too. The restaurant is kept darkish at night and had a bar vibe, but not uninvitingly for a kid. My son actually loved it, he said he'd ever been on a place like it before. The pizza is New York style ish. You never really quite copy it, but it was delicous. Pretty thin, very crispy, and good sauce cheese ratio. My favorite style. We got mile and cookies at the end. The cookies were intense, super think and delicious chocolate chip. The milk was whole 😂 This place was perfect and is recommend anyone check it out!

If you're craving top-tier pizza, this is the place to be! The food is good, pizza is great and they have one of those mozzarella cheese container things on tables, they also had great dessert but it is filling. Service is solid, the staff is friendly and quick, though during peak hours, you might wait a bit. Still, their upbeat attitude makes up for any delay. As for the atmosphere, it’s dim but I oddly like it, it’s a fun spot whether you’re dining in with friends or grabbing a quick bite. Overall: 4.7/5 — Highly recommend! Home Slice lives up to the hype.

Home Slice Pizza is a true Austin treasure! We were there for their 20th birthday celebration which Travis County officially recognized as Home Slice Pizza Day on November 15th and the whole event was such a blast! My husband, Guy Perry with Horizon Bank, was proud to help support the celebration, and we also had the chance to volunteer, which made the day even more meaningful. Of course, the food is always the star. Their pizzas are legendary, but my personal obsession is the Italian sub with a side of marinara....easily one of the best sandwiches in Austin. Whether you’re grabbing a slice, sharing a pie with friends, or celebrating a big Austin moment, Home Slice never misses. Love this place! 🍕💛
Nicole P — Google review
Homeslice came highly recommended, but I found it to be overpriced and mediocre. Pizza is my all-time favorite food, so I consider myself to be a bit of an expert in the field of marinana, mozzarella, and crust. Homeslice is all hype. First, parking is a mess. It's impossible to find a spot in the restaurant's lot, and you have to park way far away in an adjacent neighborhood. It only costs $2 to park, but still a pain. The line for a slice was crazy, but we got in it. They moved the line quickly. Since it was our first time and we wanted to sample several things, we ordered a slice of pepperoni, a slice of cheese, and a small Italian sub. After jockeying for position, we finally got a place to sit after waiting almost 15 minutes. They have seating on an outdoor patio, which has to be unpleasant on hot, humid days. It took a long time to get our order, and we waited nearly 30 minutes after ordering. An employee came out and screamed out name, and we had our noms. Even at first glance, the pizza slices looked disappointing. Not only were they small, but they were clearly lacking enough cheese. So many bites had no cheese at all! Pizza needs plenty of cheese, people! The sauce and crust had absolutely no flavor. It needed some garlic, salt, oregano, something, ANYTHING! The pepperoni was particularly gross. It tasted like a wet dog smells. Barf. It went unfinished. The Italian sub looked good, but was mediocre. The only thing it had going for it was the toasted bread. Other than that, you can get far better sandwiches just about anywhere except Subway. For how pricey this place was, I can't believe the high reviews and ratings. Maybe Austin locals aren't picky about their pizza, but I would never come back to eat here. Ya'll are crazy to think this is a good restaurant.

Located in Northwest Austin, The Domain is a glamorous outdoor shopping center set in a beautiful park-like environment. It boasts over 100 luxurious and mainstream retail stores and restaurants, with almost half being exclusive to the market. From high-end boutiques like Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. to more traditional retailers such as American Eagle Outfitters, there's something for every shopper. Dining options range from True Food Kitchen to Glorias Latin Cuisine, offering a variety of culinary experiences.
Great mall. One of my favorites. It’s a huge upscale outdoor mall. The layout design is beautiful and it’s very well maintained. There’s an abundance of stores, restaurants, and entertainment stops. It’s a sophisticated and lovely place to shop or simply socialize. It’s so large and there’s so much to do that it feels like a small town in its own.

Visiting The Domain in Austin was really fun. It’s packed with shops, restaurants, and bars, all in a modern, open-air space. The vibe is super relaxed—perfect for walking around, shopping, or just hanging out with friends. Everything is easy to get to on foot, and sometimes there’s live music or events, which makes it even more enjoyable. It can get crowded on weekends, but it’s totally worth it for the full experience.

It's a nice outdoor ground level only shopping area. Clean and well maintained. Plenty of rest areas and lovely shaded by trees chill out spots. There's even some charging docks around in case you needed it. Not a bad place to hang out with restaurants and entertainments such as movie and comedy theatres around too.

Out door shopping center. Not an indoor mall like I expected 🥵I didn’t want to try on clothes after walking around sweaty. Would be good to walk on a cold day but it’s 95 degrees today. But the stores were cold and clean. We walked for a while and checked out the area. I noticed they had water for dogs outside a few stores which was nice.

The Domain in Austin, TX was a fantastic place to celebrate our daughter’s 10th birthday! The experience and time with her is something I’ll cherish forever, and The Domain exceeded expectations! The Domain has something for everyone, and even though you are likely to see Lamborghinis and Ferraris, it is still an approachable destination for a great shopping experience. Our daughter now agrees! We went to Paul Martin’s where we ate with massive sliding windows open and watched people relaxing, playing, and having good times in the community area. Next was Nordstroms and a new pair of pants that she loves! We also went to Swatch and Gorjana jewlery, and we will be going back. It was an amazing daughter and father experience at The Domain, and I highly recommend shopping there for an elevated experience when visiting or living in Austin and the surrounding areas!

The Domain in Austin is a vibrant and upscale outdoor mall that offers a wide variety of brand-name outlets, restaurants, and entertainment options. If you’re someone who enjoys strolling through well-designed open-air spaces, you’ll likely appreciate the modern layout and lively atmosphere here. You can find just about every brand you’re looking for — from high-end fashion to more affordable retailers — and the dining options are diverse, ranging from casual bites to sit-down restaurants. It’s definitely a destination where you can spend the whole day shopping, eating, and people-watching. That said, be prepared to do a fair bit of walking. The layout is spread out, so wear comfortable shoes. And because it’s an outdoor mall, Texas heat or unexpected weather can make the experience less enjoyable, especially if you’re used to the comfort and climate control of indoor malls. Personally, I’m more of a fan of indoor malls — everything under one roof, AC blasting, and less walking required. While The Domain is undeniably nice, I’d choose a traditional indoor shopping experience over it most days. Still, it’s worth a visit, especially if you’re in Austin and want to explore a popular local spot.

Barton Creek Greenbelt is a beloved urban natural area in Austin, offering various outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, swimming, and rock climbing. The greenbelt boasts over 12 miles of scenic trails with lush surroundings and serene swimming holes. It features soaring limestone cliffs and is a favorite spot for nature enthusiasts in the city. The main trail stretches more than 7 miles from Barton Springs Pool to Westlake, while there are also shorter and easier trails suitable for families with young children.
It was a great hike. We hiked about 5 miles and there were easy parts and a little hard parts if you are considering going with your toddler.
Kerime H — Google review
Review of the Barton Creek Greenbelt (Mopac Access Trailhead) The Barton Creek Greenbelt is one of Austin’s most treasured urban escapes, and the trail from the Mopac (Loop 1) parking area is a perfect way to experience it. This out-and-back trail offers a mix of shaded canopy, limestone cliffs, and peaceful creekside stretches, making it a go-to for nature lovers, fitness hikers, and especially dog owners. Trail Overview The route begins at the Mopac trailhead, which is easy to access with ample parking most of the year. From there, you’ll follow a winding path into the heart of the Greenbelt. It’s a down-and-back trail, meaning you’ll descend into the Greenbelt early on and face a bit of a climb on the return—more on that in a bit. The trail is moderately trafficked, but it rarely feels overcrowded, and there’s plenty of space for everyone to find a pocket of peace. 7 Falls & Water Levels A highlight of this section is 7 Falls, a beautiful rock formation with cascading pools. However, water presence here is highly dependent on recent rainfall. After a good rain (typically in spring or fall), the pools fill and offer not just scenery but also a cooling-off spot for dogs. In drier months like late summer, the falls can be bone dry, so check recent weather or water level reports if that’s a must-see. Dog-Friendly Vibes This trail is extremely dog friendly. Off-leash is technically allowed in certain parts of the Greenbelt (though always check for updates), and you’ll see many happy pups splashing in the creek or trotting alongside their humans. Just bring plenty of water for both of you in the warmer months. Best Times to Go For optimal conditions, aim for early mornings or late afternoons during spring and fall. The Texas heat can be intense in summer, and though the trail has plenty of shade, the climb out can be punishing if you hit it during the heat of the day. In cooler months, it’s a much more forgiving trek and still beautiful, even when the water is low. The Stairway to the Gods The final stretch—affectionately known as the Stairway to the Gods—is a steep, rocky incline that hits just when you think you’re done. It’s a solid workout, and your calves will definitely feel it. But once you reach the top, there’s a nice sense of accomplishment—and if you’re using apps like Seek for plant ID or Merlin for bird calls, pausing along the way can be a great excuse to catch your breath. Final Thoughts Whether you’re after a solid workout, a peaceful walk with your dog, or a slow-paced exploration with nature apps in hand, the Barton Creek Greenbelt from the Mopac entrance delivers. It’s a little slice of Hill Country beauty tucked right inside the city—and it never gets old.

Violet Crown Trail and Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail Loop. The combination of the Barton Creek Greenbelt, with the Violet Crown Trail, offer fantastic interactions with nature. Taken all together, it's about an 8.5 mile loop, but you can go straight to and from Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls. The trails are typically in great shape, but do narrow a bit and can be overgrown if you take a side trail. You may encounter the occasional fallen limb, but the beauty of the area, especially Sculpture Falls and Twin Falls (when they have water) make this a beautiful worthwhile hike. One of my favorites in Austin.

Visitors can enjoy reading rooms, an outdoor rooftop lounge, and a dedicated kids' wing featuring a wide range of books and interactive activities.
First time visiting the downtown library and I was very impressed. The building itself is beautiful inside and out. There are art installations throughout as well as an area for local art they change out that was nice. It is multi level and has several areas to read/ study/ designated quiet areas/ meeting rooms as well as tables in the middle section of the building where you can read and study and converse. There are plugs all over for phones/ computers etc as well as various seating all over - single chairs, sofas, pairs of chairs and chair/tables. There is a rooftop outdoor area that was a nice surprise- I was not expecting that. The computers to look up books etc are everywhere and easy to use. You can click and find out where the book (or dvd or what else) is located on the map which was really nice and helpful. They also offer several different types of classes including a 3D printing class. You do have to pay to park if you stay over an hour which I feel discourages people from hanging out. Interesting as it feels like it is designed for people to come and stay but then they only allow one hour free parking. I guess they feel people would park and go other places but I would imagine there are ways to monitor that.

Amazing attraction. Rooftop has garden views. You can sit and hang out, view the art attractions, read books. Only issue is with the homeless population. But still lots of fun and definitely worth viewing

Free parking for the first hour. This library is beautiful. The 3rd floor children’s area has a huge chess set and several smaller ones. There are lots of seating options. Outdoor and indoor. The children’s area staff are so nice and welcoming. My son is excited to do the craft they offered. We took it to go. The teen area has laptops for four hours and a teen only designated space. The 6th floor has a very pretty outdoor seating area with views. There are walkable locations for food in the area. Including the cafe on site, which has lots of seating and a nice view. Trader Joe’s is a block away too. Great spot for locals and tourists.

Haven’t been back to the Austin Central Public Library in a while, but heard they recently opened a new café inside—so it felt like the perfect time to revisit. The space is still just as stunning as ever, with its modern design, open layout, and cozy reading spots. The rooftop garden view never gets old, and now with the coffee shop, it’s even easier to spend a few hours here. Whether it’s for studying, relaxing, or just enjoying the quiet atmosphere, this library remains one of the best public spaces in Austin.

Stunning location, architecture, ambiance, charging stations, outdoors access, roof garden, coffee shop and book store. Elevators or take the stairs kids and parents can play on life size chess board! Very contemporary non stereotypical library experience modernize 2025 and beyond! Well Done! Displaying Modern centerpiece Art is probably not out of the question, to cap off this Modern Masterpiece of a library,it's off the Colorado River!!!
Indigo 2 — Google review
This library is an architecturally impressive, multi-story building with a great selection of books and plenty of cozy spaces to read, study, or explore. A couple of things: parking is only free for the first hour, which sounds great—but realistically, most visits last longer, so you should expect to pay. It’s not a huge deal, but something to note. Also, given the downtown location, the library serves a broad and diverse population, including many individuals experiencing homelessness. While it’s admirable that the library remains open and welcoming to all, there are a few areas, especially the near entrances, that can feel unclean or smell unpleasant. It’s unfortunate, and while I understand the challenges, it can affect the overall experience—especially with young children. Lastly, during the summer reading challenge, kids were rewarded with a free book. I was disappointed to find that most of the book selections seemed to be pushing very specific agendas. Public libraries should remain as neutral as possible, especially when it comes to content directed at children. Let’s encourage reading for joy, curiosity, and learning—without steering toward any one agenda.

Stunning library. Huge and beautiful design. Plenty of different spaces to study, read, or play board games. Significant amounts of books and there’s also plenty of computers for usage. Additionally, there’s a charming café inside that offers good coffee. A must visit place in Austin.

I was at the University of Texas in Austin working taking university senior portraits for the Cactus Yearbook and had a spectacular view of the historical UT Tower every day. I was lucky to get such a variety of photos of the tower and sky and the sunlight bouncing off the tower. Very cool landmark. Very iconic landmark for the University of Texas in Austin. Definatley a sight to see while in Austin, Texas.

Tower tours were not available on the day we visited. There was construction on one side of the tower so we couldn't walk all the way around but the side with the war memorial and Greek style fountain was lovely. Beautiful architecture and grounds.

Super cool stop if you’re in Austin. The UT Tower is iconic — you can’t miss it. Even if you’re not a Longhorn, it’s still fun to see up close. The campus around it is beautiful for a walk, with lots of spots to relax or snap a few pics. Feels like a big part of the city’s vibe — definitely worth a quick visit.

Mueller Lake Park is a central feature of the Mueller neighborhood, offering a large lake surrounded by 30 acres of green space, trails, and recreational facilities. The park aims to ensure that every resident lives within close proximity to a community greenspace. It features an amphitheater, loop trail, picnic area, and a playground for kids with a sculpture of Nessy, the famous Lakeness Dragon.
I absolutely adore this park. It’s spacious, lush, and clean. It’s dog-friendly, with a beautiful lake and a variety of geese and other birds. There’s a large picnic area, public restrooms, and a playground for kids. There are also plenty of parking spots available. Occasionally, on weekends and holidays, local musicians perform live music.

It’s a nice medium size park with lake! You can walk around the water area or rest under the trees as they have many benches! If you like birds and you’ll enjoy bird watching since there are many ducks and all kinds of birds there! Come and chill! Cheers 🥂

This park is my favorite place to hang out with friends and walk my dog. There’s a beautiful picnic area where we enjoy nice walks, especially when the sun comes out. It also has a great playground for children. This park is my go-to spot when I need a peaceful walk or a break. There’s plenty of free parking next to the park, including a parking garage. It’s also surrounded by lots of restaurants where you can grab a quick bite or drink. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to relax, take a walk, or spend time with friends. I had the chance to go to the Water Lantern Festival in Austin here at Mueller Lake Park , and it was absolutely beautiful. Everyone wrote messages, hopes, or memories on lanterns and released them onto the water. When the sun went down and all the lanterns started floating and glowing, it felt magical ,peaceful, emotional, and full of meaning. It was such a special experience to share with others. Seeing all those lights on the water felt like a reminder of connection, love, and letting go. If you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it.

This park is beautiful! The lake/pond has so many ducks and turtles, and the landscaping is perfect for pictures. There's an area with a vine-covered gazebo with trees and columns, another sculpture-like gazebo thats also great for pictures. There's an open lawn area with shade trees not far from the water that are perfect for picnics, and then there are picnic tables under trees so it's comfortable. I'll definitely come back to this park!

The Waterfall Trail is just over a mile long and provides an ideal setting for engagement photography sessions with its wooded creek and natural surroundings.
This was a beautiful and serene place. We played frisbee, swam, fished, and had a picnic. It’s definitely away from the city and a lil slice of Texas wilderness. I had a great time with friends and family. I would definitely recommend. Prepare for a short hike. O and bring water shoes.

My young kids and I went on a Monday in mid June and met up with a friend and her young kids. It's a nice little walk to the lake area from the parking spots but not bad at all. I will say it seems a little run down- the volleyball net is droopy and not much sand (if there ever was any), the grass wasn't mowed, the retaining wall is wobbly, etc. I know it's a natural place but I guess maybe I'm comparing it too much to Emma Long which seems a bit more upkept. It definitely seems more like a place that a younger college type crowd goes, as the dock was taken over by college kids and there was a group setting up beerpong as we were leaving, with mostly other college age kids around. There are some nice trails around it for hiking and a bathroom somewhere although we didn't use it. I'm glad we checked it out but we'll probably stick to other places with the littles.

Great vibes! This is an awesome spot to hang out and cool off in the summer. It’s clean and not super crowded. We take our dog to swim - there are always water pups running and swimming.
Cassy C — Google review
One of the great parks in the Austin area. It is fairly accessible, with a good set of clear trails. The lake is the main draw, but the restored prairie is special and you'll find peace, butterflies, and other wonders walking that trail. On a colder day when there aren't many motor boats it's also one of the quietest parks, which, in addition to the prairie restoration, makes it a refuge for birds and birders. I know it can get busy here though, and folks are not particularly careful about cleaning up after their dogs or keeping them on leash. But this does not sully the natural experience, which is sublime.

Scenic spot
Pennybacker Bridge Overlook, also known as the 360 Bridge, offers breathtaking views of Lake Austin and the downtown skyline. The trail to the overlook provides a bit of a climb, so it's advisable to wear appropriate footwear and arrive early due to its popularity. The spot is perfect for hikers of all levels and promises an incredible sunset view. Located at 5300 N Capital of Texas Hwy, this iconic structure is a must-visit for anyone seeking stunning vistas in Austin.
Been bringing dates here since I could crawl! The view is stunning and always a pleasure to share the experience with. The littering has significantly improved but still persists. It’s a small hike to the top and definitely not ADA compliant but very much worth carrying her to the top if you should so dare attempt. Humidity was rough Saturday morning so don’t expect to spend more than 30 minutes here. It gets busy so plan your trip accordingly.
Kantian R — Google review
Scenic spot for some amazing pictures. You get a perfect skyline view of the city and the river. Also overlooking the golf course as well. There are spots to park, but if its busy those spots can fill up fast especially in the evenings potentially. Its a short walk up the side to the top but we'll worth the views.
Ngawang S — Google review
This place is gorgeous! Worth the little hike up for the gorgeous views, there's no barriers so be careful with the edges especially with the little ones! There's some parking at the bottom, and even people selling some grilled foods like corns in a temporary stall setup, but be careful not to drive your car too far in, seen some people get their car stuck in the dip.
Sventek — Google review
The Pennybacker Bridge, affectionately known by locals and visitors alike as the "360 Bridge," transcends its function as a mere thoroughfare; for me, it embodies a profound sense of awe and continuous discovery. Having resided in Austin for over 15 years, the captivating panorama that unfolds with each crossing remains as fresh and astonishing as my very first encounter. Its striking architectural design, characterized by a distinctive, graceful arch, spans the shimmering expanse of the Colorado River, effortlessly framing and enhancing the already breathtaking vistas of the surrounding Texas Hill Country. This iconic landmark not only serves as a vital artery connecting the city but also stands as a testament to the seamless integration of human ingenuity and natural beauty, offering a constant reminder of Austin's unique charm and the serene grandeur of its landscape. For many, the "Pennybacker Bridge Overlook" is the perfect Saturday morning escape after a night out in Austin's vibrant nightlife. It’s a truly special place to witness a peaceful, quiet sunrise. From there, you can gaze at the magnificent Pennybacker Bridge, watch the Colorado River flow serenely underneath, and observe the boats and jet skis crossing by. It's a moment of tranquility that brings a calming end to an exciting night and creates an unmatched memory of their time in Austin, truly encapsulating the unique blend of urban sophistication and natural charm that Austin embodies.
Haythem H — Google review
It was a really nice place. I would say that people of all ages, including kids, can go there and enjoy a great view of the bridges and mountains. There's a small hill that takes about five minutes to climb, and from the top, you can have a lovely view with your friends. The food, including fries and fruits, is available at the bottom near the freeway. However, parking can be difficult to find; it’s a small cut-out area that isn’t paved. You need to be careful when parking, but other than that, it's definitely a nice place to visit.
BINITA R — Google review
Despite nearby construction and subsequent traffic congestion, what a lovely spot to visit if you enjoy scenic views of Austin. It’s a super short, rocky hike up to the lookout point that will take you 10 mins at most. Surprised it didn’t have guardrails as there were some beer cans scattered/hidden throughout, which fortunately made the views that much better. With limited parking, highly recommend you go during the weekday or early weekend as there’s limited parking. Pictures don’t it justice and more impressive in person. @mykoreaneats

My visit to the Pennybacker Bridge Overlook in Austin was an unforgettable experience. (also known as the “360 Bridge”) The overlook is situated off Loop 360 also called the Capital of Texas Highway in Austin, Texas. From the viewpoint you get sweeping views of the rust-coloured arch of the Pennybacker Bridge, the meandering waters of Lake Austin (part of the Colorado River), and the rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country.
FrzNsr — Google review
Visiting never gets old. The view from the overlook above Pennybacker Bridge is one of the best in Austin—especially around sunrise or sunset. It's a short, slightly rocky hike up, but totally worth it. Great spot for photos, relaxing, or just taking in the scenery. Parking can be tight on weekends, so go early if you can. A must-see if touring, and a peaceful go-to if you're local!

I had an incredible experience shopping at Allens Boots in Austin. The moment you step inside, the rich scent of leather surrounds you, and you're greeted by thousands of cowboy boots in every style imaginable . It truly lives up to its reputation as a Texas boot institution, packed with well‑known brands like Lucchese, Old Gringo, Liberty Black, and more . The staff in Austin were amazingly helpful and clearly knowledgeable truly a standout in customer service . Whether you're hunting for a custom pair or just browsing, this family‑owned gem on South Congress Avenue since 1977 is a must‑visit. A true Austin classic that boots lovers won’t want to miss.

Greeted as soon as you entered the store and made to feel welcomed. Then Nannette was super helpful with my daughter picking her first pair of cowboy boots! Her expertise on the types of leather and how the boots would give over time made for good decision making. She was invaluable in color selection. She recommended colors and boots that matched my daughter’s style which made choosing the right pair for her easy. 4 pairs later the decision was reached. Many thanks to you Nannette.

What a fun experience! My last pair of cowboy boots had to be tossed a few years ago and I really wanted a new pair. During a Ladies' Trip to Austin, my daughter and I stopped at Allen's and it was great. The smell of leather hits you right in the face when you walk in (ahhhhhhh). There are racks upon racks of boots in various styles, colors, all neatly organized by size. Pedro took good care of me while I was deliberating over size and style. I knew comfort was a priority, but they also needed to have some style to them. It was obvious he knew his product and which leathers might be more up my alley. I was impressed with Pedro. I found a pair of boots and then found my daughter, who was debating between 2 pairs of booties. The young lady helping her was equally knowledgeable and helped her decide on the right pair for her. We also made sure to check out the hats and had a lot of laughs with Pedro over the taxidermied squirrels and racoons throughout the store. It was a truly unique and enjoyable experience.

The Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum in Austin is a unique destination that showcases the works of Charles Umlauf, featuring an outdoor collection of touchable bronze sculptures. Situated at the edge of Barton Hills neighborhood, this museum offers rotating exhibitions in its indoor space and boasts four acres of beautifully maintained gardens with ponds and numerous bronze and stone sculptures donated by Charles Umlauf.
Very affordable ticket prices! Parking can be rather difficult, but the garden is surprisingly spacious and nice to walk around. I went to the Lunar New Year event they had during closing hours, which does cost more than usual to attend, but the special effects on the dragon dance was pretty cool.

I had my wedding at Umlauf Sculpture Garden on May 3, 2025. I cannot think of a more magical location for a venue. The whole day felt like a fairy tale because of the lush greenery, babbling brooks, and elegant sculptures. Pros: They let me visit as many times as I wanted They answered no fewer than 200 of my emails The coordinators were so sweet and easy to work with The venue is gorgeous. Some quick notes: The event rental is only from 4 PM - Midnight, including load in and load out and the amplified sound has to be off my 10. This means extra charges for delivery timing, usually only about an hour and a half of dancing, and other specialized coordination. If you use their preferred vendors, then they can let them come in at 3:30. However, there was a lot of confusion on my wedding day and it set us 30 minutes behind the whole night, which is huge. Working with this venue can be a bit of an undertaking which I underestimated, so just something to note! That all being said, I do not regret my decision to have my wedding here! It was a lovely night.

Bull Creek District Park is a serene and natural park located along the river, offering a range of dog-friendly trails and picnic areas. Spanning 32 square miles, the park is maintained by the Bull Creek Foundation and features limestone seeps, waterfalls, springs, cliffs, and archaeological sites. Visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming in the creek, hiking on scenic trails, fishing in Bull Creek, and rock climbing on limestone cliffs.
A beautiful spot for photos! There are a lot of photographers here in the fall, but there are so many gorgeous spots available, you can always find a picture-perfect backdrop. Parking can be limited, but people are in and out pretty quickly.

Bull Creek Park was a great option for some easy, family-friendly hiking. Most of the trails are at least partially shaded, which is good in the hotter months. There are many access points to water and lots of wildlife. I've seen exotic birds, little lizards, snakes, rabbits, turtles, all types of stuff here. It's really a beautiful place. Just be mindful, there is a good amount of glass on the ground in the open gravel lot, so be sure to lock up your valuables.
Marcus C — Google review
Beautiful scenery all around! A perfect spot to enjoy the water or hike along the trail. The rocks and bouldering areas are a highlight, making it great for climbers as well. There are plenty of swimming spots to cool off, and the views are stunning throughout. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a scenic hike, a refreshing swim, or some fun rock climbing.
William S — Google review
I officiate and photograph engagement and weddings here frequently for Matthew Chambers Photography! It offers amazing views without terribly long walks if you don't want them. Lots of hiking trails! I do recommend you take everything with you.As the park is frequently targeted for smash and grabs.

Beautiful and peaceful. But be careful! The rocks can be very slippery. Also, I recommend visiting during cooler months to avoid swarms of mosquitoes.

In the heart of Austin, Texas stands the Willie Nelson Statue, an 8-foot bronze sculpture capturing the iconic country artist's likeness. The statue depicts a smiling Willie Nelson leaning over his guitar, showcasing his humor and humility. Created by Philadelphia-based artist Clete Shields, this larger-than-life tribute to the legendary musician can be found outside the Austin City Limits Moody Theater.

Came across Willie Nelson Statue during my evening stroll! “The Willie Nelson Statue, affectionately known as "Willie," is a significant bronze sculpture honoring the legendary country music artist, located in Downtown Austin, Texas. Significance: The statue pays tribute to Willie Nelson's impact on Austin's music scene and its identity as the "Live Music Capital of the World". It's a popular photo spot and symbolizes Austin's cultural heritage. Nelson has been tied to the city since the 1970s, embracing its "hippie-cowboy" culture and helping start the Outlaw Country movement after moving there in 1972. A portion of Second Street was also renamed Willie Nelson Boulevard in his honor in 2010. Description: This eight-foot-tall statue depicts Nelson in a reflective pose, seated on a stool and smiling. It features his signature look with a bandana, t-shirt, pants, and boots, along with his iconic guitar, Trigger, resting on his leg. The statue even includes the distinctive hole in Trigger from years of use.”

So cool that Austin celebrates Willie with his own statute. It's close to the park by Austin City Limits. Worth the short walk.

Auditorium Shores at Town Lake Metropolitan Park, located in downtown Austin, is a popular urban greenspace with scenic views of Lady Bird Lake and the city skyline. The park features an off-leash dog area, picnic tables, and hosts seasonal events like live music and small festivals. Visitors can enjoy activities such as playing frisbee on the green lawns, walking or jogging along the network of paths, or cycling on the Hike and Bike trail.
Auditorium Shores is more than just a park—it’s where Austin shows off. I’ve been here for everything from reggae festivals to food and wine events to surprise concerts during SXSW. The energy is always electric, especially when the music starts and the sun begins to dip behind the skyline. The open space is perfect for big crowds, and the sound carries beautifully across Lady Bird Lake. You can dance barefoot in the grass, lounge on a picnic blanket, or stroll along the trails while catching live sets. Even when there’s no event, it’s a great place to unwind, walk your dog, or catch golden hour by the water. And if you’re visiting during New Year’s or the 4th of July, the fireworks here are awesome! I totally recommend coming to enjoy the stunning display while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere.
ATXOutdoorsy — Google review
Nice park. The grandson had so much fun. I wish they had swings or something to play on in the shade. Bring gloves and thick pants if you want to swing or play on the slides. The water park portion was just the right amount of water for a hot day. Overall such a fun place. Bring turtle food, as the turtles seem well trained to expect something from people that walk out onto the piers.

One of my favorite spots in Austin. The view of downtown from here is amazing, especially around sunset. It’s perfect for a walk, run, or just relaxing by the water. There’s plenty of space for dogs, families, and even small events, but it still feels peaceful. The trail connection makes it super easy to keep walking along Lady Bird Lake. Definitely a must-visit if you want a mix of nature and city vibes in one place.

Great outdoor space in the city’s center. Great way to see the cityscape and stay active. Limited parking, however, the churn rate seems reasonable. People are coming and going any time I’ve searched for a spot.

This place is a time warp and an absolute joy and a gem! The selection is incredible and the nostalgia takes you back. It smells so good you wanna eat the walls. Janna helped me with my choices. They really were friendly and extremely welcoming and accommodating. The dark chocolate champagne truffle is absolutely a sin. Absolutely lovely atmosphere and will definitely come back when in Austin!

What a fantastic fund! This is a place I can see located right in Mayberry with little Ronnie Howard stopping in to get a milkshake and jaw-breaker. They have just about everything. Loose candy that you can buy the pound or all kinds packaged. Weird sodas, butter soda, pickle soda, bacon soda, crazy flavors. The owners were super helpful and nice. Highly recommend to stop in and get enough stuff to put you into a sugar coma!

Walking in, and you get hit by fresh popped popcorn. There was a nice variety of candies and soft drinks. They even had some sugar-free items. The store was very clean. The store was pretty busy the entire time I was there, and the staff seemed to be in good spirits.

Big Top Candy Shop is the best candy store in Austin! More candy than you wave a wand at! My brother Mitch went there to buy a giant sucker dressed as Bearded Ballerina for losing a bet. They welcomed him in and helped him pick out the perfect candy! They even made sure to take some pictures to post to their social media and invited him back the next time he needs candy or wants to prance around in his pick tutu. The big Top Candy Shop has all of your candy needs and is such a fun place, 5 Stars!!

Beautiful lake, it's best to go on a boat here with friends or family. The scenery is really relaxing and calm. There are barely any trees on the shore, so it's pretty clear overall. It does get quite cold, so definitely bring some warm fleece sweaters. Sunsets are the most beautiful here.

The Willie For President Mural is a vibrant and eye-catching artwork adorning the side of the STAG men's clothing store in Austin, Texas. The mural features a larger-than-life portrait of country music legend Willie Nelson, created by artists Jacqui Oakley, Erick Montes, and Joe Swec. Located at 1423 S Congress Ave, this must-see attraction has become a popular spot for photo opportunities.

This painting is cool to visit. If its not on your bucket list are even you a willie fan ? Not a ton of parking, walk or take a driver. What else is there to do in Austin?
Elad 2 — Google review
I typically find myself in the area when working, had no idea it was a historical landmark, just enjoyed the art! But if in the area, a few decent food trucks, and home slice is there as well! Totally worth a trip if you are hungry as the food in the area is worth the stop on it's own.

This is a must see, must stop for photo op in Austin! Here is the description of the mural, as written by the artist: Jacqui Oakley: Willie For President SXSW Mural | STAG Provisions | Portrait by Jacqui Oakley, Mural Painting by Joe Swec & Design by Erick Montes "Well at this point the U.S election seems ripe for another candidate and why not vote for Willie?! He seems as reasonable as many of the others… Austin Texas’ men’s clothing store STAG thought the same and came to me with an amazing proposal, I would once again get to draw Willie Nelson (see 2015’s La Zona Rosa mural) for yet another Austin wall which would again be painted by the talented Joe Swec. This time I’d also get to collaborate with amazing designer Erick Montes too. SOLD! STAG‘s Forrest Bloede and Don Weir sent me a pile of great Willie reference pictures and this time I was inspired by the 1980s marathon-running Willie. He wore some pretty amazing shorts back then but sadly they couldn’t fit into the composition. My illustration was scanned and sent to Austin where Erick Montes designed the fabulously bold type and red stripes. The image was then projected onto the wall for Joe Swec and co. to paint. What a great collaboration! Here’s a bit of my ink process before the final image was sent to Austin."
